Adam: Hi, there. Was it something that I said?

Sally: I’m just trying to determine which one of your multiple personalities I’m dealing with. It’s a little guessing game I
play with myself.

Adam: Oh. I see.

Sally: ‘Cause sometimes I’m almost certain that I’ve run into friendly, funny, down-to-earth Adam, and then, no, he turns out to be [Clears throat] Officious Adam, busy CEO and all-around important guy with no time to waste on a
lowly peon like me.

Adam: [ Sighs ] I was — I was too abrupt with you yesterday. Although I did apologize, or try to.

Sally: Ah, yes, mea culpa Adam. An intriguing new addition to the cast of characters.

Adam: How many are there?

Sally: It’s an ever-changing landscape.

Adam: Wow. You know, that, it sounds kind of fascinating.

Sally: Fortunately, there is a fool-proof way to settle this. I will just invite to join me for lunch and see which Adam
fields the request.

Adam: I’d love to have lunch with you, but I’m booked today. I am actually here for a meeting.

Sally: Damn. I knew it. Now I owe myself 20 bucks.

********************

Adam: I really hope you’re not taking it personally that i have a business meeting.

Sally: No. I am not that girl. Like I told you, this is just a game to me. I’m going for best three out of five.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Sally: No, wait. This might’ve been my third rejection — not that I’m keeping track.

Adam: Oh, no. Of course not, because we made a mutual agreement to keep things strictly professional between us.

Sally: Yes, and in retrospect, I’m so glad we did that. That way, I don’t get saddled with your chronic mood swings.

Adam: Okay, well, you are now making me wish my schedule was clear because you would be a much more entertaining lunch date than the person I’m meeting with.

Sally: Well, you could always bail. You know, things do come up.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Sadly, I’m afraid I can’t this time.

Sally: Mm. My, must be VIP.

Jack: Well, great minds think alike.

Nikki: Well, hell.

Jack: I’m glad I ran into you.

Nikki: Oh, yeah?

Jack: Well, I’ve been looking for a chance to tell you how impressed I was with the job you did organizing victoria and ashland’s wedding.

Nikki: Thank you so much, jack. I was just relieved that everything went smoothly.

Jack: You made it look effortless. No small feat. I have some idea of how much planning goes into that, and, wow, it was worth it. A delight, beginning to end.

Nikki: Well, I wanted to do it for them. They’ll always have those memories.

Jack: And those memories are important, especially given the special challenge those two are facing.

Nikki: Yes. I am grateful that victoria was able to convince ashland to fight his cancer. I know how difficult the treatment has been.

Jack: Well, we’re all praying those treatments are effective. I saw in italy the reunion between ashland and harrison, and it brought home just how close those two are. It’s a lot for my grandson to understand and accept if things don’t go as we hoped.

Nikki: Oh, god, I hate to think what that would do to victoria. I have to admit, I had reservations about this pairing in the beginning.

Jack: Given the groom’s well-deserved reputation as a ruthless businessman? Yeah, I got to see a little bit of that when he came after jabot.

Nikki: Well, he seems completely devoted to victoria, and that’s something that has been lacking in her life.

Jack: But you’re still worried about the heartache she could be facing.

Nikki: She’s a realist. She knows loss is a possibility.

Jack: Well, I respect that courage. Nothing is more important than the time we spend with those we love, even if that time is fleeting. She seems to have internalized that. I mean, she doesn’t seem to have any regrets.

Nikki: I haven’t heard any, but…

Jack: But as a devoted mother, you can’t help worrying.

Nikki: Well, it’s one thing to take those vows — “in sickness and in health” — but it’s quite another to navigate a possibly fatal disease. With all the whirl of the wedding prep and finalizing the merger, I don’t know that victoria has had time to sit down and really think about what could happen. But it’s gonna hit her eventually, and honestly, I’m dreading it.

Victor: Do you think that is chance’s ring?

Abby: [ Gasps ]

Victor: Sweetheart.

Abby: [ Sobbing ]

Victor: It’s okay, my love. It’s okay.

Adam: Hi, there. Was it something that I said?

Sally: I’m just trying to determine which one of your multiple personalities I’m dealing with. It’s a little guessing game i play with myself.

Adam: How many are there?

Sally: It’s an ever-changing landscapE.

Adam: Wow. You know, that, it sounds kind of fascinating.

Sally: Fortunately, there is a fool-proof way to settle this. I will just invite to join me for lunch and see which adam fields the request.

Adam: I’d love to have lunch with you, but I’m booked today. I am actually here for a meeting.

Sally: Damn. I knew it. Now I owe myself 20 bucks.

Adam: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: You’re hesitating. Why? It’s a simple question. Are we in this together or not?

Phyllis: No, I’m just thrown that you even have to ask me that. Of course I’m in this with you. Why do you think I’m working so hard? I mean, it doesn’t feel good now, but it will turn out good. I know that.

Nick: Agreed.

Phyllis: Can we table this? I…I’m still sort of hung over from last night. I’m not at my best.

Nick: Yeah, to be continued.

Phyllis: Thank you.

Nick: Well, I bet our brunch is cold. How about if I take you out to lunch?

Phyllis: Thank you. Um, I’M…

Adam: [ Sighs ] Sadly, I’m afraid I can’t this time.

Sally: Mm. My, must be vip.

Adam: Something like that.

Sally: Anyone I know? What if we play 20 questions? What do I win if I guess it right?

Adam: It’s no one you’ve met.

Sally: Is he bigger than a bread box?

Adam: Well, he — or she — will be here soon, so enjoy your day.

Sally: Wow, smooth. You’re really good at this. All sounds so mysterious. Makes me wonder if it has something to do with that missing man, the one that billy was talking about. What was his name again, hanes? No, oh, gaines. Oops. Guess I wasn’t supposed to bring his name up anymore.

Nikki: Well, this has been such a great break, but I really need to get back to the office.

Jack: You know what? I came here to get a sandwich to take it back to the office and sit at my desk and eat lunch. To heck with that. What do you say you and I have a proper lunch together?

Nikki: I’d love to.

Jack: Fantastic. You pick the place. Though I hear there’s a great little moroccan place that just opened over on chestnut.

Nikki: Alright, now, wait a minute. You didn’t give me a chance to say “but.” I have a full inbox I have to get back to.

Jack: Oh, that will keep, i promise you.

Nikki: Jack.

Jack: Hey, we have just pulled off — you and I — one of the most satisfying feats in all of parenthood — launching our children off into fulfilling marriages with people they love and cherish.

Nikki: [ Laughs ] Well, I don’t know if we can take credit for that.

Jack: Yeah, maybe not, but we could use this opportunity to celebrate our great good fortune.

Nikki: Well, you put it that way, it’s hard to refuse. So I won’T. I’d love to have lunch with you, jack.

Jack: Fantastic.

Nikki: [ Chuckles ] But society is closer to newman tower, so do you mind going there?

Jack: Society it is. Shall we?

Nikki: Okay.

Jack: Here, let me get your coat.

Nikki: Thank you.

Jack: And your coat is right here.

Nikki: Thank you, sir.

Jack: You bet. Follow you.

Victor: I know how difficult this is for you, my sweetheart. We’ll take care of you, okay?

Abby: [ Sniffles ] This doesn’t — this can’t be real. There’s got to be some sort of explanation. Chance — he can’t be gone.

Ashley: Hey.

Victor: Hi, sweetheart.

Ashley: What is it? Is something going on?

Victor: A wedding ring was discovered and recovered in the rubble. And christine gave it to abby.

Ashley: Oh, god, no.

Victor: Belongs to chance.

Ashley: But that’s not necessarily proof, is it? I mean, he could’ve taken it off. Did they find anything else?

Christine: I was informed that being a married man was part of chance’s cover story, so he never took it off.

Ashley: Has search and rescue found anything?

Christine: Ashley, given the force of the explosion, positive identification of any of the remains is just gonna take some time.

Ashley: Abby. Honey? Honey, I’m right here.

[ Dominic crying ]

Devon: It’s okay.

Abby: [ Sniffles ] Oh, dominic. Shh.

[ Sniffles ] It’s gonna be okay.

[ Sniffles ] Shh.

We gave new zzzquil pure zzzs restorative herbal sleep

Adam: I noticed you ordered your food to go. Hope that wasn’t on my account.

Sally: I had already planned on working through lunch. I am still getting inquiries about victoria’s wedding dress.

Adam: Well, I’m not surprised about that.

Sally: But this kind of response from the fashion press and retail buyers, not to mention the dozens of brides that somehow got my work e-mail and are now clamoring for a copy. It’s just far beyond anything i ever envisioned.

Adam: Well, it sounds incredibly gratifying.

Sally: It is. It’s like a big, flashing neon sign telling me that I was right not to give up on my creative endeavors.

Adam: Well, speaking for newman fashions, it’s a good thing that you didn’t because I’m really looking forward to seeing what you and chloe come up with next.

Sally: What about chelsea? When she comes back in town, is she still planning on coming on board? ‘Cause it would be really great to have another fashion genius in the house to kick around ideas.

Adam: Um, I don’t know when or if chelsea’s gonna be up to working again.

Sally: Should I not have mentioned anything?

Adam: No, it’s fine. I hope she comes back to genoa city and she’s ready to pick up her life again. Sooner the better, as far as I’m concerned, so we can move on and — and, um… well, the person that I’m meeting with has arrived, so…

Sally: And looks like my food is here, so have fun with your not-at-all mysterious meeting.

Adam: Thanks. I’ll catch you later.

Sally: Thank you.

Ashley: You guys, I think abby could use a little space.

Devon: Okay, how about I take dominic out for a walk, then, for a little bit?

Mariah: Fresh air, I’m in.

Ashley: That’s a great idea. It’s nice outside.

Abby: No, please —

Ashley: Abby, honey. Everybody loves that little boy so much. They’re gonna take such good care of him, okay? Just like your father and I are gonna take good care of you.

Devon: Hey, we’re not gonna be gone long, I promise you.

Abby: Okay, um, use an extra blanket.

Devon: Sure, of course.

Mariah: Of course. Try to rest, okay?

Abby: Yeah.

Victor: Can you stick around? I have some questions, okay?

Christine: Sure, of course.

Devon: Hey, would you mind grabbing the diaper bag?

Mariah: Uh, yeah, absolutely.

Devon: Come on.

Phyllis: A flaming gorilla? Ooh, I want that. They put rum on top and then they set it on fire. I want a drink that’s on fire. Hey, if you clench your jaw a little harder, we’re gonna need an emergency dentist. What’s adam up to?

Nick: It’s who he’s with.

Phyllis: Who is that guy?

Nick: That’s one of my dad’s most trusted private investigators. He’s been on his security team for, like, ever. You see the way they’re talking and their body language? They’re clearly scheming about something and they’re not even trying to hide it.

Phyllis: Mm. Mm-hmm.

Nick: What’s that? “Mm-hmm,” what is that?

Phyllis: It’s just “uh-huh.” You know what it is. Come on. I’m not gonna say anything. I’m not gonna do that, because we’ve just gone through it this morning. I’m not gonna continue a pattern, you know, when you ask me what’s going on, and I say something supportive about you, and then you misinterpret and then we get into it. Hey, I’m gonna change the pattern. That’s refreshing, right?

Nick: I don’t want you to feel like you’re on eggshells around me. I want you to feel free to speak your mind.

Phyllis: Oh, do you?

Nick: Yes.

Phyllis: Really, you do? Okay, alright. Well, remember you said that.

Nick: I’m serious. If you got something to say, then say it. I’m not gonna hold it against you. I would like your unvarnished opinion.

Phyllis: You want my unvarnished opinion. Okay. Remember that you said that. Who cares what’s going on over there? Who cares who adam is talking to and what they’re up to? Can you just let it go and put your attention on us? Can you do that? My hygienist cleans with a round head.

Phyllis: Okay, I see you don’t love my suggestion. No problem.

Nick: Alright, do you remember how annoyed you were with me when I kept telling you to back off sally and tara, but you ended up being right about them?

Phyllis: Not even the same. I was trying to protect our daughter is what I was doing. What are you protecting? I mean, who cares what your dad and adam are plotting? Who cares?

Nick: [ Sighs ] Well, that’s not the way I look at it.

Phyllis: You know what? For once, you know what I would love? That you protect yourself. You protect yourself and just take yourself out of this situation. That’s all. I mean, that’s the advice I gave you in italy, and you didn’t take it then. I don’t really expect you to take it now, but you asked how i felt, and so I’m telling you. That’s all. Who cares about your dad and adam? Let them deal with the consequences of their shady dealings.

Nick: Do you know how many times I’ve tried that? More times than I can count. Ultimately, things always get blown up into this massive crisis, and then I get sucked right back in ’cause I got to protect the people I love, which is my sisters and my mother and my children. So don’t you think it’s best if I do everything I can to avert the mess that is brewing rather than wait for the other shoe to drop?

Phyllis: No. I think that you would be better if you only intermittently obsess with your family. That’s all. I’d be happy if, between disasters, you put more attention on our relationship. That’s all.

Nick: You know what? Let’s, uh… let’s get out of here. There’s lots of other places in town to eat lunch.

Phyllis: Seriously?

Nick: Yeah. I promised you a, you know, a nice time where we’re not worrying about everything that’s going on with us. That’s not gonna happen here because of adam. So let’s go.

Phyllis: Alright.

Jack: Hey!

Nikki: Hi.

Jack: Having lunch at the bar today?

Nikki: [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: Yeah. I mean, we were, but we’re gonna change venues. Adam’s here, and I don’t really want to stick around, so…

Nikki: Oh, well, I hope you’ll reconsider. Jack and I are just grabbing a bite. Why don’t you join us, as long as jack doesn’t mind?

Jack: Not in the least.

Phyllis: Is that a singular “you” or a plural “you”?

Nikki: Uh…oh, “will you have lunch?” Plural, of course. Why?

Phyllis: Okay. I just — I didn’t know because our history, that’s all.

Nikki: Well, we got along very well in italy. And I must admit, I do have an ulterior motive.

Phyllis: Of course.

Nikki: Well, I’m hoping to convince my son to settle his differences with victoria, and i think I’ll have a better shot at it if I have your support.

Phyllis: Oh, yes, definitely. A double-team.

Nick: Look, I appreciate the offer, but phyllis and I need to talk about some stuff and —

Phyllis: You know what? I would love it if you made peace with your sister. Really, so thank you for the invitation. We’ll accept.

Christine: Well, I’m afraid that’s really all the information I have at this point.

Victor: [ Exhales sharply ] When do you anticipate getting an official notification?

Christine: Days, maybe longer. It just depends on the recovery effort. In the meantime, I’ll keep working my contacts in D.C.

Victor: Please keep me updated.

Christine: Absolutely.

Victor: Okay.

Christine: I trust you’ll do the same.

Victor: You can count on it, okay?

Christine: Thank you.

Victor: By the way, are you gonna contact nina?

Christine: Uh…yeah. It’s gonna be rough. You know, chance — chance was the light of her life.

Victor: I know. I know. You know, um…he was a hell of a guy. I was proud to call him my son-in-law.

Christine: Again, victor, I’m so sorry for your loss, and if there’s anything more I can do, please don’t hesitate to call.

Victor: You do the same, okay? Take care.

Christine: Yeah, thank you.

Victor: I’ll get the door.

Ashley: Do you want to lie down? I can go upstairs and I can lie down with you and hold you like I used to do when you were a little girl.

Abby: [ Sniffles ]

Ashley: Everybody’s gone and it’s just your dad and I here, so if you need anything or want anything, and you know what, abby? You don’t have to rein it in. If you want to scream at the top of your lungs, if you want to stand up and if you want to just tear this entire room apart, you can do whatever you want. Please just tell us what you need, honey.

Abby: I need chance. I need my husband. People everywhere living with type 2 diabetes

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Abby: No. No, if… if were chance were gone, i would… I would know it. I would feel it. I would feel something.

[ Sighs ] Oh, my god.

Ashley: What?

Abby: Nina — does she know?

Victor: Christine is probably talking to her as we speak.

Abby: She’s gonna be heartbrokeN. I mean, she loves him so much. He’s — he’s her baby. Same way I feel about dominic.

Ashley: She’s our family now, honey. We’ll make sure she knows she doesn’t have to go through this alone, okay?

[ Doorbell rings ]

Abby: Oh, god.

Victor: I’ll get it. I’ll get it.

Abby: I don’t want to see anyone.

Victor: I’ll get it.

Abby: Oh, my god.

Victor: Sharon.

Sharon: Mariah texted me chance may have been killed.

Victor: Come in.

[ Sighs ] There was an explosion at the safe house where chance was doing his undercover work in spain.

Sharon: A bomb?

Victor: Yeah. Place was blown to smithereens. The only things left over were some personal effects.

Sharon: I’m so sorry.

Ashley: Hi.

Victor: Sharon came to offer some comfort to abby, okay?

Ashley: Oh, that’s very kind of you. Um…abby’s in shock. I’m not even sure if anything we’re saying is registering with her.

Sharon: I understand. Trauma like this can be very disorienting.

Victor: I know sharon offered some enormous support to victoria after she had been attacked.

Ashley: I’m not sure how receptive she’ll be. I mean, she did say she wanted to be alone, but you’re more than welcome to make the attempt.

Sharon: I’ll try my best.

Victor: Okay.

Ashley: Thank you.

Mariah: Abby was such a wreck when we left. I really hope my mom can help her somehoW.

Tessa: It was an inspired move sending sharon over there, and hopefully she knows exactly what to say.

Mariah: I was at a loss.

Devon: Yeah, we all were.

Mariah: Abby and chance were so in love. I mean, they had so many plans for the life they wanted to live together, and then, what, it’s just — it’s gone in an instant?

Tessa: I can’t even imagine what that’s like. I mean, your whole world just crashing down on you and… devon, oh, my god, I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to be insensitive. I mean, you know exactly what abby’s going through right now.

Devon: You’re fine, tessa. You’re not insensitive at all. It’s fine. You’re absolutely right that i do know, and it’s a feeling that I wouldn’t wish on anyonE.

Phyllis: The stew looks great. I like to try new things.

Jack: Yeah, there are a few new things on here, kind of a cuban-french fusion.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] Yeah.

Nikki: I wonder what’s going on over there.

Phyllis: Nick was curious, too.

Jack: Okay, I’m feeling a little left out here. Who is that guy?

Nick: It’s a pi that dad has on retainer. They are no doubt talking about jesse gaines and his current whereabouts.

Jack: Okay, that name doesn’t ring any bells.

Nikki: It’s just someone ashland used to know.

Nick: It’s someone that despises ashland. He showed up in italy to disrupt the wedding, but I ran into him first, locked him in a room in the palazzo until the wedding was over.

Jack: Okay, I was at this wedding. I had no idea what was going on behind the scenes. No wonder you were so relieved that the ceremony went off without a hitch.

Nikki: I didn’t know anything about it at the time either. In fact, I know very little now, and that suits me fine.

Nick: It’s a well-kept secret what happened to jesse gaines. I mean, no one has seen him in days. Dad had adam take care of him somehow.

Jack: When you say “take care of him”…

Phyllis: Well, no one knows what that really means, but…

Nikki: It’s nothing drastic.

Nick: Well, I thought you said you didn’t know what went down, mom.

Nikki: Your father happened to find some compromising information about him and used it to convince him to leave ashland alone.

Jack: Classic victor. I would expect nothing less of him.

Phyllis: Yeah, let’s just be glad it wasn’t anything worse.

Jack: Yeah, this is only slightly illegal.

Phyllis: Right, what’s a little blackmail between friends, right? You should be glad, jack, that you had nothing to do with it. Trust me, trust me, you’re better off.

Nick: Alright, you made your point. Let’s drop it. On the outside, I looked fine.

Nikki: Meeting adjourned.

Phyllis: Evidently.

Jack: So I’ve been playing this game online with harrison, you know, just to stay in touch. Kid is so clever. He’s been finding it easier and easier to beat me.

Nikki: Hmm. Why don’t you teach him to play chess?

Jack: I think he’s a little young for that. You guys are both gaming experts. Any recommendations?

Nick: Uh, the game that you’ve been playing with christian, with the racing cars and the animals are drivers. What’s that called?

Phyllis: I don’t know. You know, I’ll go on the internet and do some research, see if something jogs my memory.

Jack: Thanks. I appreciate that.

Phyllis: Sure. Oh, here’s a text from my assistant manager. I have to go. There’s an emergency. This has been lovely. Thank you.

Nikki: Oh. You’re welcome.

Nick: You want me to box up any of the lunch and bring it to you?

Phyllis: I’ll put that in your capable hands.

[ Clears throat ] Excuse me.

Nikki: Is everything okay between the two of you?

Nick: We’re fine.

Jack: You know what? I’m gonna get in touch with my assistant, as well. Got to push back a meeting. I’ll be right back.

Nikki: Okay. Darling, I don’t mean to pry, but it seems like things between you and phyllis are very tense.

Nick: Let’s get back to jesse gaines.

Nikki: Ugh, must we?

Nick: Yeah, I think it’d be a real mistake to look the other way this time, mom.

Nikki: It’s behind us, darling.

Nick: Really? Why would adam be talking to one of dad’s investigators?

Nikki: I don’t know. Why don’t you ask your brother?

Nick: I’m asking you. Dad and adam are keeping on the outside on this, but I know you can find out what’s going on.

Nikki: I would really rather stay out of it.

Nick: You know what that means, don’t you? You’re leaving victoria’s future and wellbeing in the hands of dad and adam. And given adam’s history, are you sure you’re comfortable with that?

Devon: You know how people always talk about grief as if it’s just one emotion? But you guys know that it’s so much more than that. It’s denial. It’s rage, loneliness, despair. The only way that I survived it was by having my family and my friends around me, and then eventually elena to help me, you know, get on track.

Tessa: Well, I’m thankful you did and that you’re happy again. And we just need to keep the faith, and eventually abby will get there, too, one day.

Devon: Yeah, I know she will. It’s just not gonna be easy for her.

Mariah: For dominic either. We saw the way that everything that’s happening has affected him. And abby’s emotions affect him.

Devon: That’s very true.

Mariah: I just have to wonder what kind of impact all of this stress is gonna have on him.

Sharon: Mariah told me the terrible news. Abby, I’m so sorry you have to go through this. And I’m here to listen, if you think it would help to talk.

Abby: I can’t right now yet.

Sharon: Okay, that’s okay. There are no rules. I’ll follow your lead. We can just sit here together, if you’d like.

Abby: Look, sharon, i understand that you are trying to help. But if I open that door, I… I might start screaming and never stop.

Sharon: Hey, you know what? In a situation like this, that’s a very normal fear.

Abby: Look, I have a baby to take care of. Chance is counting on me. Okay? I can’t fall apart. I can’t fall apart.

Sharon: Abby, I don’t see that happening. You’re not gonna fall apart. You might be tired and you need some rest. A shock to the system like this can be very hard on a person physically. But you’ve done it before. You made it through. You’ve suffered some really horrible losses and you survived — brad, colleen.

Abby: My baby girl.

Sharon: I know the kind of strength that it must have taken to carry on after that.

Abby: Chance helped me through that. He convinced me to have hope. He said that [Sniffles] I could be a mother and that we would have a long, happy life together. Why is this happening? Why?

[ Sniffles ]

[ Exhales sharply ] Why give your family just ordinary eggs

Devon: You’re right that abby is definitely gonna need help taking care of dominic while she’s recovering from all this, but she’s gonna have the help.

Tessa: Yeah, dominic’s nanny, ashley.

Devon: Exactly. And you know what? Honestly, I’m hoping that dominic becomes her source of comfort and her reason to get out of bed every day.

Mariah: Maybe. But we just don’t know yet. People react to trauma and grief in different ways.

Tessa: Well, I mean, that’s another reason why having sharon over there is really a good idea. She can keep her eyes open and let us know if there’s any cause for concern.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Abby: I hate that I can’t control my emotions.

Sharon: Hey. Honestly, it’s fine.

Abby: It happened earlier. When christine brought me chance’s wedding ring, I just — I lost it in front of everyone, including the baby. I just… I kept thinking about my husband in that explosion. Terrified and suffering. And I felt like I was falling, like I couldn’t find solid ground.

Sharon: As scary as that must have felt, that’s actually a really normal reaction to trauma.

Abby: How am I gonna go on without my husband? My son is never gonna get to meet his father. How am I gonna face that? I am so afraid.

Ashley: What are you doing?

Victor: We just need to help our daughter, sweetheart. Get her all the support we can.

Sally: How was your meeting?

Adam: Um…tedious.

Sally: Really?

Adam: How was your lunch?

Sally: Productive. And…well… you know what? Maybe I will just show you. Somehow the national inquisitor got some photos of us from tuscany insinuating that you and I are a thing.

Adam: Um…well, I’d say the only real surprise is it took them that long to get around to it.

Sally: Well, I just figured I’d give you a head’s up in case anybody saw it and expected you to comment.

Adam: Everything is…

[ Cellphone rings ] …Fine. It’s chelsea. That was fast.

Sally: Good luck.

Nikki: I hope you didn’t take it seriously before, what nicholas and phyllis were implying.

Jack: You mean about this gaines fellow?

Nikki: I mean, obviously, no harm could’ve come to him. They were just being overly dramatic.

Jack: Yeah, I feel for nicholas these days. Clearly under a lot of pressure. He’s not getting along with victoria or adam or victor.

Nikki: Or phyllis, apparently. How much do you know about the tension between them?

Jack: Maybe the less said, the better. They’ve hit a bump in the road. They’ll figure it out.

Nick: Problem solved?

Phyllis: Yeah.

[ Sighs ]

Nick: I wish you hadn’t left. Now I still owe you lunch.

Phyllis: You don’t owe me anything. It’s fine. I knew what I signed up for. I knew your family history. It didn’t matter to me because i love you and the whole thing is worth it. It was worth it.

Nick: You’re right, it was.

Phyllis: Who are we kidding? This isn’t gonna work.

Tessa: Hey, how are you?

Mariah: You’re running. What’s wrong? Is somebody chasing you, or…?

Noah: [ Chuckles ] I started jogging in London.

Phyllis: Well, Milan was fun.

Nick: Milan was fun. Kyle and Summer’s wedding was a blast. Then we got to Tuscany, and my sister’s wedding, not so much. There was a lot going on with my family. Um…I took that out on you. I let my family get to me, and i wish had never let that happen.

Phyllis: I appreciate that. Thanks. But I thought we were having what you called a hard-core conversation right now.

Nick: We are.

Phyllis: Oh, well, not — not really. I mean, let’s really be honest, ’cause things have not been great between us —mean brittle, they’ve been brittle — for a while now. And we’ve been really out of sync.

Nick: When do you think that happened?

Phyllis: I can’t really pinpoint it, but my guess is around the time I went after Sally and Tara because of what they did to Summer. And all you did was keep on giving me warnings. That’s all you did. That’s all you said during that time.
You said, “phyllis, watch out. Phyllis, don’t do that. Phyllis –”

[ Sighs ]

Nick: But eventually, i supported your plan. I just was concerned that you were gonna go overboard.

Phyllis: Really? ‘Cause that’s kind of something I do. I go overboard. You know, it’s in my DNA. It’s who I am. And you telling me not to do that, I just — I don’t get it.

Chloe: [ Laughing ] Wait. Who do you think is having more fun at the swings — my mom or miles?

Kevin: Definitely Esther. I mean, look at that smile! Hey, buddy.

Chloe: Well, I’m glad that the kids have their grandma because we are definitely off the list of Aunt Lauren’s favorite things.

Kevin: What are you talking about? She adores Bella and Miles.

Chloe: She hasn’t liked any of the photos that I’ve posted of the kids in their Halloween costumes, and normally she is the first one to react, with kissy faces and emojis. And — nope, nothing, nada.

Kevin: Maybe she’s busy.

Chloe: Or she’s still royally pissed off that I let Sally go to Tuscany and swap out Victoria’s wedding dress.

Kevin: And you have deduced all that because she hasn’t liked your photos?

Chloe: Of her niece and nephew in the cutest outfits ever?

Kevin: I think you’re reading way too much into this.

Sally: Adam. Glad you’re here.

Adam: Uh, has ChanceCom joined the list of media companies that’s very eager for a scoop on the future of Newman Fashions?

Sally: Unfortunately, no. Just trying to dig up some dirt on you. Is that about right?

Billy: That is 100% correct.

Adam: Oh. Harassing my employees. I think this actually is a new low for you, Billy.

[ Sniffs ] What is that I smell? It’s the sad stench of desperation..

Amanda: No word from abby?

Devon: Nope. Not even a text.

Amanda: Well, it’s understandable, you know, given everything that she’s going through. Not knowing if her husband is dead or alive, it must be torture.

Devon: I’m just glad that she hasn’t lost hope yet, ’cause if worst comes to worse and chance didn’t make it, I’m legitimately worried about what this is gonna do to abby.

[ Knock on door ]

Victor: Hello? Abby? Hello? Sweetheart, what are you doing there? Huh?

Abby: Do you have any news? Did they find chance?

Victor: No. Not yet. I just came to check up on you. Why is the door unlocked?

Abby: I don’t know how that happened. I was just trying to do some relaxation exercises.

Victor: Well, sit down. When is the last time you ate something or slept?

Abby: Dad, I don’t know. I’m a new mom. I’m always hungry and tired.

Victor: Sweetheart, you need to keep up your strength, okay?

Abby: Dad, what I really need right now is information, and i can’t find anythinG. I need to know what happened to chance.

Victor: Why don’t you go to the kitchen right now and make yourself some hot tea and some toast?

Abby: I’m fine.

Victor: No, sweetheart, you need strength right now. Please do as I say, and next time, keep the door locked.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: So I texted abby earlier just to let her know that we were thinking about her. Thought I’d get something back, maybe a text, but, no, nothing.

Tessa: Well, let’s operate under “no news is good news” in this scenario.

Mariah: I don’t know if I can do that, because any lack of information is — it’s just gonna stress abby out more.

Tessa: I just wish that someone would tell abby that chance is okay and that he’s coming home.

Mariah: But what if christine said is true? What if chance is gone?

Tessa: That would be absolutely devastating for abby.

Mariah: Not just for abby. I’m thinking about somebody else. Poor little bowie.

Nick: I got all your favorites — eggs, bacon, strawberries, yogurt, some oj, freshly squeezed, of course.

Phyllis: So you’re hoping that I forget about our argument because you got yogurt and fruit?

Nick: Look, I’m not trying to use romance to dodge our issues, alright? This is just a small gesture on my part to say to you, “let’s work this out.” I’m not looking for a quick fix. I know it’s gonna take some time. So if we can just sit down and share a meal and get comfortable, then we can have that talk — you know, the real-deal talk, the nitty-gritty, no-holds-barred, because that’s what it’s gonna take, phyllis, for us to get past this.

Phyllis: Alright, I’ll give it a try. Oh, man that is wrinkly.

Nick: I mean, this feels like a year ago, doing the exact same thing. We were holed up in this room, dissecting our relationship, wondering where we were headed, if anywhere.

Phyllis: Are we just going backwards and going in circles?

Nick: No, I — I think even the strongest of relationships needs to be examined from time to time, right?

Phyllis: Yeah, I suppose.

Nick: Phyllis, I don’t regret for one second the last year and a half of this.

Phyllis: I don’t either. I don’t either. But…

Nick: But what?

Phyllis: But we’re doing well.

[ Sighs ] Something is off, and I don’t know what it is, and, you know, it’s like we’re going backwards.

Nick: You really think that?

Phyllis: Yeah, don’t you? I mean, I want to get to where it was good. I want to be there again. How do we get there? I mean, do you want to try, at least?

Nick: Of course I do. Don’t you?

Phyllis: Yeah, of course i do. I mean, where do we start?

Nick: We could start with an apology.

Phyllis: Okay, well, I don’t have anything to apologize for.

Nick: Yeah, I — I get that. I’m, of course, talking about me. I’m sorry.

Mariah: If bowie loses his dad before he even gets the chance to meet him, that would be too cruel.

Tessa: Please, don’t go down that road. We should follow abby’s lead and stay positive. She’s certain that someone just made a mistake and that he’s coming home to her, so we should share that mind-set.

Mariah: But abby is so fervent in her belief that chance is still alive that it’s running her to the ragged edge, and it’s having an effect on bowie’s emotional state. I can tell.

Tessa: I’m worried.

Mariah: Yeah, we all are.

Tessa: No. About your attachment to the baby. Please don’t go overboard.

Mariah: Relax. It’s really not like that. I mean, naturally, if I’m gonna be worried for abby, my thoughts are gonna drift to the baby. And the possibility of chance being gone, I mean, it’s put a lot of things into perspective. It’s really made me appreciate the gifts that I have in my life. Like you.

Tessa: That’s very sweet.

Noah: Hey!

Mariah: Hey.

Tessa: Hey, how are you?

Mariah: You’re running. What’s wrong? Is somebody chasing you, or…?

Noah: [ Chuckles ] I started jogging in london.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Tessa: Is that abby?

Mariah: No, it’s work. Holiday promotional stuff. I need to check in.

Tessa: You’re going into the office?

Mariah: Yeah, but I will catch up with you later.

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: Alright, I’ll see you.

Noah: See you.

Tessa: [ Sighs ]

Noah: What was that about abby?

Tessa: Oh. You haven’t heard.

Noah: What’s going on? Should I call her or…?

Tessa: Oh, no, no. Don’t bother her.

Noah: Seems like it’s weighing on you and mariah, so if you want to talk about it, I’m here.

Tessa: Thanks.

Noah: And if you’re worried about confidentiality, you can trust me.

Tessa: Well, since it affects mariah and your family, you should know. It’s about chance.

Abby: Is he still sleeping?

Victor: Yes, adorable and very peacefully, you know?

Abby: Good.

Victor: I thought ashley was here.

Abby: She was, yeah. She stayed here last night and took care of us, but I sent her home so she could get some rest.

Victor: Mm-hmm. You get something to eat?

Abby: I did, yes. Thank you. I got a sandwich, and you were right. It’s gonna help me keep up my energy while I search for chance.

Victor: Are you searching personally on this or directly?

Abby: Yes.

Victor: Oh.

Abby: I mean, I haven’t heard anything from christine since before I told you what happened. I’m not gonna just sit around here, waitinG.

Victor: I understand.

Abby: Dad, look. There was an explosion at this building in valencia, spain. I found the location from reports online. A building isn’t gonna just explode without someone noticing. And there’s nothing on survivors or victims, but [Sighs] Dad, what little information I can find, it says that it’s the result of a gas leak.

Victor: Uh-huh.

Abby: But christine said it was because of a bomb. Look, I don’t care how it happened, I just — I need proof that my husband is alive.

Victor: I understand.

[ Sighs ] I have some news.

Abby: You do? Why didn’t you say something sooner?

Victor: Because I wanted to make sure that you had something to eat first, okay? Christine was right. This building did not explode because of a gas leak. Someone put a bomb in there after they found out that chance used that building as a safe house. And he and his colleagues were directly targeted. Nope

Abby: Chance’s undercover work was exposed. His agents were left vulnerable, but, dad, that doesn’t mean that anything happened to him. He could just be laying low, trying to protect of his team. I mean, that’s exactly what chance would do. He would be putting their safety first.

Victor: Sweetheart, his bravery has never been questioned. He is a tough, brave guy. Now, from my sources, I know that this incident, this bombing, is very high on the list of priorities for the state department. So while they’re still searching…

Abby: Searching — see, they haven’t given up.

Victor: Let me finish, my love.

[ Sighs ] Apparently, four of his colleagues that he was working with have been classified as… “killed in the line of duty.”

Abby: But, dad, chance was not on that list. He was not one of the four, and that has to mean something. I am telling you, he was not in that building. He’s probably safe somewhere, and when the coast is clear, he will come home.

Amanda: Let’s not jump to worst-case scenario. You know, chance is smart and savvy. Remember how he helped you nail colin when he was trying to steal your inheritance?

Devon: Oh, sure, I do, but i still don’t understand why he would bring a personally engraved watch on such a dangerous mission and risk blowing his cover with it.

Amanda: The watch was found in the safe house. He didn’t have it on him.

Devon: Either way, why are you gonna risk it? Why risk anything like that when you have a family to come back home to?

Amanda: You’re right.

Devon: And meanwhile, abby’s living through a nightmare.

Amanda: He has been gone a long time.

Devon: And the worst part of this now is I know that what was keeping her going was the idea of her husband coming back home. That was the light at the end of the tunnel for her, and if that’s taken away, she’s gonna need a lot of support from the people who love her.

Amanda: And she will get it, if it comes to that.

Devon: [ Scoffs ]

Nick: I apologize that things got so brittle between us in italy.

Phyllis: Well, milan was fun.

Nick: Milan was fun. Kyle and summer’s wedding was a blast. Then we got to tuscany, and my sister’s wedding, not so much. There was a lot going on with my family. Um…I took that out on you. I let my family get to me, and i wish I had never let that happen.

Phyllis: Really? ‘Cause that’s kind of something I do. I go overboard. You know, it’s in my dna. It’s who I am. And you telling me not to do that, I just — I don’t get it.

Nick: I never meant to make you feel like you couldn’t be who you are. I just — you know, I was nervous that summer was gonna get hurt or that you were gonna get in trouble. I was just trying to be the voice of reason.

Phyllis: Okay, you know that’s never gonna work on me.

Nick: What?

Phyllis: Reason.

[ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ] We know each other so well. Too well. There are profound differences between us.

Nick: I agree with that.

Phyllis: I mean, nick, you had to have known I was gonna go after sally and tara. After what they did to summer, you had to have known I was gonna fight back. By you telling me not to, by you telling me to stop, it just goes against who I am. I mean, it was almost hurtful.

Nick: Well, you know how much my family means to me. They’re a big part of my life. I am very involved in their lives, particularly my sister’s and my mother and sometimes even my father. I’m not proud of that, but it’s who I am.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Believe me, I know.

Nick: Well, you took issue with that in italy. Do you honestly think that was productive?

[ Sneeze ]

Phyllis: Wow, you sound mad.

Nick: Not mad.

Phyllis: You’re not, really? Seriously? Because you were mad in tuscany. Did we ever resolve that? See, that’s the thing, that’s the thing is we have these little grievances, we have these little issues that we just don’t deal with, and then something else comes along and then it turns into a big issue, and we just ignore it and fix it by, you know, hopping into bed with each other.

Nick: I mean, that’s accurate. I’m amazed that method has worked as long as it has for us.

Phyllis: Okay. Alright, well, let’s not do that anymore. If we want to make this work, we have to do things differently. Have we just been taking each other for granted for the last year and a half?

Nick: No, I, uh… I always appreciate you.

Phyllis: Well, I appreciate you. I think that you like the fun, frothy side of me, but I think there are certain parts of my personality that you are not fond of.

Nick: This conversation feels familiar.

Phyllis: Yeah, I think we had it a year ago. And we agreed that we were going to let each other be who we are and accept aspects of each other’s personality. I think we agreed.

Nick: Yes, we did.

Phyllis: Yeah, but right now, we’re arguing about not allowing either one of us to be ourselves.

Nick: I — [ Sighs ] I mean, do you have to love every single thing about the person you’re with? I think that is unreasonable. It doesn’t matter how good of a match you are, there’s gonna be something about that person that you don’t care for.

Phyllis: Okay, yeah, I know, but those are little things. We’re talking about huge chunks of our personality that we’re not fond of.

Nick: Well, it never really seemed to matter until right now.

Phyllis: You’re always gonna be close to your family, aren’t you?

Nick: Yes. We’ve talked about that many times.

Phyllis: Okay, alright. I know.

[ Sighs ]

[ Exhales sharply ] Your relationship with your family is strained now. But you’re gonna come around like you always do. You’re gonna be sitting at thanksgiving dinner, laughing with them, as if nothing ever happened. You’re never gonna change. Your family’s never gonna change. I’m never gonna change. You know who I am. I’m reckless and I’m wild and I’m brash. So this whole time, have we just been skating around and ignoring every single issue that is bringing us to this conversation right now?

Devon: Gosh, you know what? We’ve been talking so much about abby’s situation, I haven’t asked you about sutton’s trial.

Amanda: Oh, yeah. It’s coming up soon.

Devon: I know it is, and I’m not very happy that michael’s trying to pressure you into testifying against your grandfather. I don’t think it’s fair.

Amanda: Yes, it may not be, but I have made a decision. I haven’t told you about it because you’ve been so consumed with everything going on with abby.

Devon: You gonna do it?

Amanda: Yes. I’m gonna take the stand.

Noah: I can’t believe it. Poor abby. I mean, is there anything I can do to help her?

Tessa: I mean, I understand the impulse to help, but abby is certain that chance is coming back to her. So until more information comes to light, I mean, there’s not really anything we can do. And please don’t tell anyone about this, even your family. I mean, unless they bring it up first.

Noah: I got it. Wait, who else in my family knows, though?

Tessa: I know your grandfather’s trying to help, but I’m not sure how amongst anyone else knows what’s going on.

Noah: I’ll keep it to myself then.

Tessa: Thank you. I mean, we’re trying to help abby, but, you know, she asked for space. I think she thinks that it’ll help her keep a clear head.

Noah: Yeah. No, I get that. Being surrounded by people, no matter how supportive, it — it can still feel like a distraction.

Tessa: I think for abby, she feels as if she accepts the sympathy, that it’s gonna make it worse for her.

Noah: Yeah, it’s a newman trait. We don’t want to accept help from anybody until it’s forced upon us, usually by another newman. She wouldn’t want to face the fear and sadness in everyone’s eyes.

Tessa: Of course. She’s worried. I mean, who wouldn’t be?

Noah: I’m assuming, because of the baby, it must be especially hard for mariah, and not to mention, for you.

Abby: There’s so many doors and windows, fire escapes, so many different ways that chance could’ve made it out, and that’s if he was in the building.

Victor: Sweetheart, you make a very good point. Has nina been contacted?

Abby: [ Sighs ] Christine was gonna tell her. I mean, I wanted to, but christine insisted. I guess she’s, um, waiting for confirmation. There’s no need to put chance’s mother through what we’ve all been going through, especially when I know that chance is still alive.

Victor: No, I think nina ought to be informed of what’s going on. I mean, you wouldn’t want to wait here and be kept in the dark about what’s gone on.

Abby: No, you’re right.

Victor: So then, why don’t i call her?

Abby: I’ll call christine and tell her that she needs to let nina know.

Victor: Okay.

Abby: She’ll want to be the one to break the news to her best friend. Dad, we need to stay positive. We can’t give up. Chance wouldn’t want us to.

Victor: I agree with you. Okay? Come here.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Victor: You just remember, i will always be there for you, okay?

Abby: Thank you, daddy.

Victor: Okay.

Think wearing less makeup

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Devon: So you’re going to testify against your grandfather, huh?

Amanda: You sound worried.

Devon: You already know that I’m worried. I don’t need to tell you again why. I just believe that michael can win this case without putting you on the stand.

Amanda: I agree. Michael is a good lawyer. I know that he can make his case without my involvement, but i have to do this, devon. Sutton killed my father, okay? So I can’t shy away from this. I need to look across that courtroom and tell him to his face that I know what he did.

Devon: And I’m sure you’ve thought about this, obviously, a lot, so I support you, 100%. I have your back.

Amanda: Do you ever get tired of being the nicest guy on the planet?

Devon: [ Chuckles ] I mean, you should know that’s a front.

[ Both laugh ]

Amanda: Oh, really? Okay, well, then if that’s true, then I guess I am a horrible judge of character.

Devon: No. I mean [Chuckles] I’m no saint at all. I’m angry at someone right now, and I know that it’s not justified.

Amanda: Who?

Devon: Chance. He’s put abby through hell. And I know it’s not fair of me to say that, and I hope and pray that he is safe and he comes home, but if he does, I’m certainly gonna let him know how I feel.

Amanda: Well, I really hope you get that opportunity.

Devon: Yeah, I hope so, too.

Amanda: You’re a really good man, devon hamilton.

Devon: I try to be.

Amanda: I can tell that you’re still worried. So why don’t you go? Okay? Go and make sure that abby and the baby are okay.

Victor: Don’t you cry. Everything will be alright. Okay. Yes. Yes.

Abby: [ Gasps ]

Victor: It’ll be alright.

Abby: [ Exhales sharply ]

[ Sniffles ]

Victor: Oh, sweetheart, don’t you cry.

Abby: I shouldn’t be around the baby like this.

Mariah: Abby? A-abby? Why was abby running out like that?

Victor: She’s just very upset right now.

Mariah: Is there any news about chance?

Victor: [ Exhales sharply ] I don’t have time to explain, okay? Would you take the baby while i run after her?

Mariah: Yeah, of course.

Victor: Thank you so much. Appreciate it. There we go. There we go. There we go. Okay, thank you.

Mariah: Of course.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I think we’re being honest with each other. You know, we’re not fooling ourselves. Yes, we have issues. But I’m trying like hell to see things from your vantage point.

Phyllis: Yeah, I know you are. I appreciate that. I want you to know I’m checking myself. I’m not trying to self-sabotage. You know, I’m not trying to destroy this relationship. I want us to work.

Nick: Well, I think it says a lot that we’re, you know, trying to figure out where we are and how we got here. ‘Cause, despite our differences, you know, we mesh. It’s a push-pull relationship, and right now, we’re focusing more on the push than the pull, and the pull is that we love each other.

Phyllis: I’m looking at the big picture, you know? Usually, I can outweigh the good with the bad, but lately…

Nick: I think the one thing that truly matters is that we love each other and that we’re happy.

Phyllis: Are you happy? I mean, truly happy?

Nick: I mean, the fact that you’re even asking me that implies that you’re not. Are you?

Phyllis: I’m not happy. It hurts to say that. I’m not happy right now. Right now I’m not happy. And I think if you were honest with yourself, you’d say the same thing. I brought in ensure max protein, with thirty grams of protein.

Nick: Don’t put words in my mouth, okay? I truly respect your feelings. I want you to respect mine, and don’t make me feel like I’m not being honest.

Phyllis: I wasn’t saying that. I wasn’t saying that you aren’t being honest with me or yourself.

Nick: Well, that’s the way it sounded, and if that’s not the case, then you make it sound like I’m not smart enough to understand what I’m truly feeling.

Phyllis: No, I didn’T. That’s not what I’m saying at all.

Nick: [ Sighs ] We’re in a rough patch right now. There’s been miscommunications and mistakes made, but the only thing that matters is us. What we have is amazing, alright? We are a lot more than video games and hot sex.

Phyllis: Of course we are.

Nick: Well, some people say that what we have is easy and comfortable, and I disagree with that.

Phyllis: Well, who said that?

Nick: [ Sighs ] You know what? It doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter.

Phyllis: Yes, it does. Have you been talking about our relationship with somebody?

Nick: Who cares what other people think, alright? What we need to do is focus on us and making this work. Can we do that?

Phyllis: Yes, yes. But you’re the one who brought it up. You said that somebody said that we’re hot sex and video games. I’ve never heard anybody say that at all, by the way.

Nick: Forget I mentioned it.

Phyllis: No, I’m not gonna forget that you mentioned it. Who — who are you going to for advice about our relationship?

Nick: Look, I don’t need other people’s opinions. They’re not helping. Especially when they’re coming from someone like jack who’s off waiting in the wings for you.

[ Door opens ]

Mariah: Hello?

Devon: Hey.

Mariah: Hey.

Devon: Hey, what’s going on?

Mariah: Oh. Abby ran out of here and victor chased after her. They left me in charge of the baby.

Devon: Why did abby leave?

Mariah: I don’t know, but she seemed very emotional. Did you come to check on her?

Devon: Yeah, yeah, I did. Just wish there was something i could do.

Mariah: Me, too. I went to work for a little bit. I put out a small fire there, but then I felt compelled to come back here.

Devon: I think until we know something concrete about chance, we just have to hope for the best and prepare for —

Mariah: I know what we have to prepare for.

Devon: Yeah, I know you do. I’m just saying it ’cause it’s gonna take all of our support to help get abby through this.

Mariah: Yeah. We need to be here for abby as much as we possibly can. And for this precious little guy right here.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Chance. I’m gonna hold on to those promises you made the day that you proposed. And that is how I know that you can’t be gone. You would never break your word.

[ Sniffles ]

[ Exhales sharply ]

[ Breathes shakily ]

[ Sniffles ]

Victor: Hi, sweetheart. Come here.

Abby: I’m sorry.

Victor: Nothing to be sorry for, okay?

Abby: I’m sitting here in the park talking to myself, blubbering like a fool. It’s not my proudest moment.

Victor: It’s okay, okay? You’re feeling very emotional right now. It’s alright to feel that way. It’s alright to let it all out, okay?

Abby: I can’t do it in front of dominic. I mean, he’s so sensitive to my emotional state. That’s why I just — I had to leave.

[ Sighs ]

Victor: All I can tell you is that he will be alright. He’s a strong boy. He’ll be alright.

Abby: Dad, I know that chance is alive. I can feel it in my heart. So I don’t know why I’m falling apart like this, why I am such a mess.

Victor: You’re very upset right now, rightfully so. To live with that uncertainty about what happened to your loved one, I mean, that’s very understandable, alright? You just know that I’ll always be here for you. You can always lean on me. You can always come to me, okay? Come here.

Devon: Hey, mariah, you know that if you need to go to work and take care of things, I can stay here with dominic.

Mariah: No, I wouldn’t be able to focus on anything at work anyways, and I feel like i need to be here, you know, in case something happens. Kind of feels like a part of the pact we made when I first became the surrogate, you know? Have each other’s backs.

Devon: Yeah, I know. I know. So do I. And if bad news is on its way, i want to be here for abby.

Mariah: Yeah, me, too.

[ Knock on door ] Abby?

Devon: I don’t think she’d knock. Hey.

Christine: Hey. Is abby home?

Devon: No, she took off. Do you have any news? Frequent heartburn? Not anymore.

Phyllis: Wait a second. Our issues have nothing to do with jack. Nothing. Jack is just a friend to me.

Nick: This isn’t about friendship. I mean, he declared that he’s still in love with you to both of us.

Phyllis: Oh, who cares? Who cares? He was just being honest. It doesn’t mean he doesn’t want the best for us.

Nick: It also doesn’t mean that you need to go running off to jack every time you got a problem.

Phyllis: Oh, my god, that’s not what I’m doing. I just go to jack for he– jack has been a friend, and he has helped me.

Nick: Right. Because he knows you so much better than I do.

Phyllis: Okay, you know what? You know what? We’re getting off topic here. This conversation is supposed to be about us.

Nick: Yeah. That’s what we’re doing, right?

Phyllis: Yeah, but all of a sudden, we’re talking about jack or somebody else that is whispering in your ear about our relationship. That is doing more harm than good. This is about us and nobody else.

Nick: Okay. Well, I need to know, are we together in this or not?

Abby: Thank you for everything.

Victor: You just remember, you’re strong enough to handle this on your own. And if you ever need anyone, you call me, and I’ll be right here, okay? Remember, you have a lot of people who love you. In fact, I see two of them right there.

Abby: [ Chuckles ] Hey, guys.

Devon: Hey.

Abby: Hi, christine.

Christine: Hi, abby.

Abby: Look, I don’t want to be coddled, so, um, just tell me. Why are you here?

Christine: This was delivered to the agency’s field office today. I…I requested that I be the one to bring it to you. It was found at the site of the explosion.

[ Sighs ] Is this chance’s wedding ring?

Victor: Christine, um, that doesn’t mean that that is his ring. He wouldn’t wear that while doing undercover work.

Christine: I thought that, too, victor, but it turns out he left it on. He adapted it as part of his cover story as a married businessman. Evidently, chance didn’t ever want to take off his ring.

Abby: [ Sniffles ]

Christine: Is this chance’s?

Abby: [ Sighs ] It can’t be.

[ Exhales sharply ]

[ Sniffles ]

[ Sighs ]

Next week on

“the young and the restless”…

Jack: I feel for nicholas these days. Clearly under a lot of pressure. He’s not getting along with victoria or adam or victor.

Nikki: Or phyllis, apparently. How much do you know about the tension between them?

Nina: [ Gasps ] Until this very moment, it didn’t seem real.

[ Sobbing ]

Billy: What the hell?

Gaines: I had nowhere else to go. I’m not safe. Can you hide me?

Sharon: Oh, you know what? My pastry delivery is late this morning, so it’s slim pickings.

Elena: Oh, no. I guess I will have to figure out a way to carry on.

Noah: Dig deep. Find that strength.

Elena: [ Chuckles ] I will. I will figure out my breakfast plan. It was good seeing you both. I’ll talk to you later.

*************

Noah: You are determined to get this story out of me, aren’t you?

Sharon: Well, not if you really don’t want to talk about it. But you already sort of admitted between the lines that there was a problem back in London. Your dad and I just want to know what’s going on. You never complained of being unhappy, and this sudden decision to come back to Genoa City is a little jarring. Though we’re thrilled to have you here as long as you want stay.

Noah: Okay. I — I was in a relationship. It was kind of a serious one — for me, at least. And…I just — I ended up getting my heart broken.

Sharon: I’m sorry.

Noah: Yeah. Me too. I promise everything’s gonna be okay. I hope you understand why I’d like to just leave at that and not go on a deep dive into my love life with my mom.

Abby: It feels like christine’s been on the phone for hours.

Devon: Well, that’s a good thing, though, right? That means she’s been able to get a hold of more of her contacts.

Abby: Yeah, I mean, hopefully she’s getting some information about where chance was when that bomb hit the building. I mean, he — he could have been anywhere.

Mariah: I mean, it’s true, you know? The first reports from the news about, you know, a big event — it’s always confusing and conflicting.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Tessa: Yeah, and chance was on a covert mission, flying under the radar. That adds an entire layer of uncertainty.

Abby: Right? I mean, we don’t even know if he was staying in that building. I mean, that could have just been a fake address to go along with the fake identity.

Ashley: Honey, here. I made you a smoothie.

Abby: Oh, mom, I don’t have an appetit right now.

Ashley: I want you to take care of yourself, honey, please.

Devon: Abby, come on. You really do need to, okay? Being stressed can make you dehydrated, and you won’t even realize it. And we have no idea how long christine’s gonna take to get us information, so, please, you need to stay strong.

Abby: Yeah. You’re right.

Ashley: Okay, I’m gonna put it here, alright? And when you’re ready, okay?

Abby: Thank you, mom. I will drink it. I promise.

Ashley: Okay.

Abby: Hi. Any developments?

Christine: Well, one of my contacts was able to send me some photos from the scene of the explosion. And I’ve been going through them, and [Sighs] Abby, there is one that I need you to take a look at to get a positive identification.

Abby: Alright. Oh, my god.

[ Crying ] Oh, my god.

[ Sniffles ]

[ Breathing heavily ]

Chloe: Or she’s still royally pissed off that I let sally go to tuscany and swap out victoria’s wedding dre.

Kevin: And you have deduced all that because she hasn’t liked your photos?

Chloe: Of her niece and nephew in the cutest outfits ever?

Kevin: I think you’re reading way too much into this.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] You know what? You’re right. You’re right. If — if I just want to see where she stands, you know, I just, um — I’ll use the tried-and-true old-fashioned way.

Kevin: Which is?

Chloe: Well, I’ll just go see her in person and see how she feels about the whole situation.

Kevin: Uh, that’s not a good idea.

Chloe: Why not?

Kevin: Because you already did the whole face-to-face thing and apologized.

Chloe: Yeah, and it didn’t take.

Kevin: Here’s what you do — give her some time and space. Otherwise, you run the risk of riling her up again.

Chloe: You know what? You’re right. Oh, gosh, you’re right again. Um, so, I’ll just — I’ll give her her space, and she’ll get over it eventually.

Kevin: Yeah, of course. I mean, unless sally has any other tricks up her sleeve. Does she?

Chloe: I mean, how — how should I know? She’s so unpredictable, and her dress was a huge hit in italy. The eyes of the fashion world are all on her now.

Kevin: Maybe that’ll keep her busy and out of trouble.

Chloe: Well, sally is thrilled about her success, as she should be, but that could make her over-confident and inspire her to take more risks, hoping for the same result. Plus, she is super grateful to adam for being in her corner.

Kevin: Oh, great.

Chloe: Yeah, which only means that there is no way in the world she will listen to our warnings to stay away from him.

Billy: You know, if you’ve gotten so many warnings about adam, why risk working for him, let alone dating the guy?

Sally: We’re not actually dating.

Billy: But you went to tuscany together for victoria’s wedding.

Sally: Adam took me to italy so I could show victoria the dress that I designed for her.

Billy: Oh, I see. So, you’re using him to further your career. That makes a lot of sense.

Sally: [ Scoffs ] Wow. Who hurt you? You’re so cynical.

Billy: If I am, it’s only because adam showed me just how low a human being can sink.

Sally: Well, that is not the adam that I know. I like and respect him, and you can put that quote on record.

Billy: Okay, well, I will file that under “famous last words.” You know, I will give it to him. He is smooth. He is charming. But that only makes him more dangerous. So, whoever this person is that warned you to keep your distance, they have your best interests at heart.

Adam: Sally.

Sally: Adam. Glad you’re here.

Adam: Uh, has chanccomm joined the list of media companies that’s very eager for a scoop on the future of newman fashions?

Sally: Unfortunately, no. Just trying to dig up some dirt on you. Is that about right?

Billy: That is 100% correct.

Adam: Oh. Harassing my employees. I think this actually is a new low for you, billy.

[ Sniffs ] What is that I smell? It’s the sad stench of desperation. (Vo) for over 50 years

Ashley: Honey, what’s in the picture?

Abby: It’s, um… it’s chance’s watch. It’s a family heirloom that

[Sniffles] Nina gave him right before our wedding.

Christine: Partially buried in the rubble of the explosion.

Mariah: Oh, abby, I’m so sorry.

Abby: No. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Um… I’m sorry for reacting this way because, now that I’m thinking about this, I mean, I think this is a good sign.

Christine: Why would you think that?

Abby: Well, I mean, this watch — [Sniffles] It’s engraved. I mean, it says “phillip chancellor” on it. He wouldn’t be wearing it if he was working undercover, so that’s got to mean he wasn’t in the building when the bomb went off, right?

Ashley: It’s a possibility.

Mariah: He could be in hiding somewhere.

Ashley: Yeah, he could be.

Tessa: Laying low until it’s safe.

Mariah: He could not even be in town and, you know…

Ashley: Yes.

Mariah: …Not even know that the explosion happened.

Abby: What do you think, devon?

Devon: I mean, I think that anything I would say would just be a guess, like the rest of us, until we have something more concrete. Is there anything else in the picture to go off of, christine?

Christine: You know, the building was leveled, so it’s just gonna take some time before we’re sure of what happened.

Abby: Unless he calls or he comes home.

Christine: Right. Unless that happens.

Ashley: Just keep praying.

Billy: You know, sally, my investigation isn’t the only reason why I wanted to talk to you.

Sally: Really? Why else could you want to talk to me? Unless you’re in need of a wedding dress?

Billy: No. I wanted to give you a little warning about what to expect from your new employer — lies, manipulation, deception, treachery. Am I missing anything?

Adam: No, I think you hit all the major bullet points, since you roll out this speech every chance you get.

Billy: Believe me, adam, I am sick of saying it just as much as you are of hearing it. It’s just crazy to me how you keep pulling victims into your web.

Sally: I am nobody’s victim.

Adam: How are things going at chanccomm these days? I mean, I don’t know if you’re the right person to ask since you are barely there.

Billy: Oh, do you have your little minions following me around now?

Adam: Oh, I don’t need to because you spend half of your time following me around, feeding your obsession, not doing any actual work, which I’m sure lily doesn’t appreciate.

Billy: Yeah, well, my job description is following you around. I mean, this guy has been a constant source of scandal and depravity you for years. And I don’t see that changing, as much as you try to convince everyone you’ve turned over a new leaf.

Sally: Well, then I guess we’re just gonna have to get used to you lurking in the background and hiding behind potted plants. It’s not really what i envisioned of ceo behavior, but, you know, to each his own.

Billy: Well, job number one of a ceo is to decimate the competition. Isn’t that right?

Adam: Well, on that point, we are in total agreement.

Lily: Hi. Hello.

Sharon: Hey, lily. What can I get you?

Lily: Um, the strongest coffee that you have brewing, please.

Sharon: Still recovering from jet lag.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Yeah.

Sharon: Noah and tessa sent home the most beautiful photos of the wedding in tuscany.

Lily: Yeah, and the photos can’t even do it justice. I mean, the palazzo was exquisite. The ceremony was so romantic. It was beautiful.

Sharon: You don’t say.

Lily: Oh. That doesn’t look good.

Sharon: Lily, you have got to rein billy in, persuade him to leave adam alone once and for all.

Chloe: Ah.

Kevin: Notification from lauren that she loves your photos and therefore forgives you?

Chloe: I wish. No — e-mail from another chain of bridal boutiques wanting to get their hands on victoria’s dress and asking to see what sally’s working on.

Kevin: Hey, way to catapult newman fashion into the stratosphere.

Chloe: I got to hand it to sally. You know, she really took a giant risk, and it paid off. You just can’t buy this kind of publicity.

Kevin: Yeah. How you gonna capitalize on it?

Chloe: Well, I mean, sally could focus on the bridal industry. I mean, maybe, but — I don’t know — I mean, she could just go in so many different directions. I’ve seen a lot of her past work, and she has so much range. And then when chelsea comes back, I am going to have the two most incredible designers working together. I — I predict the whole thing is gonna blow up. In a good way.

Kevin: I — I hate to point this out, but it could also blow up in a — in a bad way. You’re talking about two very, very big personalities.

Chloe: True, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t get along.

Kevin: But we can’t ignore the fact that sally apparently has a thing for adam, right? And to say that chelsea is possessive of adam is an understatement. How do you not see this as a recipe for disaster?

Chloe: Come on. It’s all gonna work out.

Kevin: Oh, yeah? You got some super powers i don’t know about?

Chloe: Yes, I do, actually. Wrangling emotional creatives is totally in my skill set.

Kevin: Yes, but — but adding adam to the mix makes this way more complicated than just dealing with sensitive personalities.

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

Kevin: Come on.

Chloe: I am at my best when I bring out the best in other people. It’s gonna be great. For all of us. It is.

Kevin: Okay.

Billy: You know, I will say congratulations. Somehow, some way, you are still able to convince women that you are a poor, misunderstood soul. I mean, at a certain point, they figure it out. Look what happened to chelsea. You do know what happened to chelsea, right?

Adam: Just ignore him.

Sally: You know, I don’t know what you expect. Is this supposed to be where i thank you for the cautionary tales? ‘Cause it’s not about to happen. I’m perfectly capable of looking out for myself.

Billy: Yeah. That’s what I’ve heard about you.

Sally: I’m sure you have heard about my past mistakes, and so has adam. I am guessing he’s been warned about me just as much as I’ve been warned about him, but we are rebuilding our lives, and we are doing that without judging each other.

Billy: Well, from where i sit, it only makes sense that you would avoid anyone with a rap sheet as long as his.

Adam: You know, it’s funny that you tell people to stay away from me, but you can’t take your own advice. You’re the one who can’t get over this.

Lily: I don’t really see a problem. I mean, they seem calm enough. Plus, I mean, I’m not responsible for what billy does. And I’d be surprised if adam asked you to intervene on his behalf. Did he?

Sharon: Uh, new pot’s almost ready. I, uh, didn’t see you come in. How long have you been here?

Rey: Yeah. You were occupied.

Billy: Hello, gorgeous.

Lily: Hey.

Billy: Can I buy you a cup of coffee?

Lily: Yes, please.

Billy: Sharon, do you mind if we get two cups of coffee to go, please?

Sharon: Coming right up.

Lily: So, uh, what was that happened with adam?

Billy: Nothing worth repeating.

Ashley: Abby? Honey?

Abby: Mom, I’m fine. It’s fine. I mean, I don’t know why you guys all look like the world is ending. Uh, thank you, christine, for showing me that picture because now that I have had time to process it, I know exactly what happened.

Mariah: You do?

Abby: Yeah. I mean, chance must have — have left the watch behind while he was working. I mean, he probably wasn’t even in the building when the bomb went off.

Christine: It just doesn’t explain why there haven’t been any sightings of him.

Abby: It’s probably just like mariah and tessa said. I mean, maybe he’s hiding. Maybe he’s — he’s somewhere and he feels like he can’t contact us because he doesn’t feel safe, like he can’t trust anyone.

Mariah: Anything is possible. We can’t rule it out.

Abby: Exactly. So, christine, please call whoever you can. Call any contact that you have. Learn everything about this, please.

Christine: I’ll see what i can do.

Mariah: Abby, is there anything we can do for you?

Abby: [ Sniffles ] Actually, yeah, there is. We can all hope and trust that chance is gonna come home. I mean, the odds have been stacked against him before. I mean, he has survived the impossible. Chance never gives up. He doesn’t give up on us, and he would never give up on himself. And so we cannot give up on him.

Mariah: No, of course we won’T.

Abby: Tessa, I mean, when mariah went missing, did you just throw in the towel?

Tessa: Never.

Abby: No. And neither did we. And the longer the weeks went on and the more worried we got, we never gave up looking for you.

[ Sniffles ] We knew we would see you again because we know who you are. You are a survivor. You are a bad-ass, and we would never give up faith, would we?

Devon: No, we didn’T.

Abby: And you made it home, you and the baby, safe and sound. I know that chance was not in that building. I know it. I can feel it. He is gonna come home to me and to dominic. We just — we have to keep believing that. What’s the #1 retinol brand

Sally: What was billy talking about?

Adam: Hmm?

Sally: Who’s jesse gaines?

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Sally: He was in tuscany and now he’s missing?

Adam: He’s just — he’s posturing again. And thank you for defending me, by the way.

Sally: Yeah, well, I’m not sure if what I said really made much of a difference, but…

Adam: Maybe not to billy. But it makes a difference to me.

Sally: Yeah, well, don’t read too much into it. I just was treating you the way I wanted to be treated, basing my opinions on who you are, not who you used to be.

Adam: Well, I appreciate it. And that’s actually why I came by here. I wanted to apologize for, um, being abrupt earlier.

Sally: Thank you. Billy seems like he’s on a real mission to bring you down. And not just you, but all of newman media. He’s talking about decimating the competition. He sounded serious.

Adam: Trust me. He is not a threat to newman.

Slly: I might buy that if you did. But you’re clearly concerned. You were — you acted like you were totally on board with this whole no-holds-barred business strategy. How concerned should I be that newman fashion is gonna get caught in the crossfire?

Adam: Not at all. You’re fine.

Sally: [ Scoffs ]

Sharon: How was your day?

Rey: Thank you. Oh, you know, I had a nice chat with noah. I came over here to tell you all about it.

Sharon: Oh. What did you two talk about?

Rey: First I’d like to hear about your conversation with lily.

Sharon: Oh, I guess you heard the tail end of that.

[ Sighs ] Billy can be so infuriating. You know, I just get so exasperated with him sometimes.

Rey: Hmm. Sounded more like it had to do with your feelings about adam.

Abby: Maybe I should have gone with christine. That way, I could hear the news as soon as it comes in.

Ashley: I don’t think that’s a good idea, honey. She’s gonna be dealing with so much misinformation. You don’t want your hopes to rise and fall on every single rumor.

Mariah: That’s right. I mean, you should wait until christine has some more confirmed facts.

Ashley: Yeah. Would you girls mind going into the kitchen and maybe — I don’t know — making some snacks or something?

Mariah: Yeah, sure. Of course.

Ashley: Thank you.

Mariah: Come on.

Abby: Eating is the last thing on my mind right now.

Ashley: I just wanted to help them — I don’t know — find something to do.

Abby: Well, what would really be helpful is that if everyone would just go home and stop staring at me while I slowly lose my mind.

Ashley: Honey, listen, we’re not gonna let you go through this alone.

Devon: Did I miss anything?

Abby: Well, I was just telling my mom that nothing that anyone does right now is gonna help the situation. The only thing that’s gonna help is hearing chance’s voice again. So I don’t care how many pictures someone shoves in my face, and I’m not gonna take the word of some stranger from the state department.

[ Dominic cries ] Baby, baby, it’s okay. It’s okay. Okay. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. Mommy’s here.

[ Voice breaking ] Mommy’s here. It’s okay. It’s okay.

[ Inhales deeply ] Shh.

[ Breathes deeply ] Shh.

Billy: I don’t know. I guess jesse gaines has turned into an invisible man. We got our best investigative journalists trying to find him, and nothing. It’s like the guy’s disappeared into thin air.

Lily: And there’s no activity on his passport?

Billy: No one by his name has left italy by train, plane, or rental car.

Lily: Well, I mean, if he thought someone was trailing him, maybe he’d use a pseudonym. Or maybe he bought a car with the money that you gave him.

Billy: Or maybe he’s still in tuscany hiding out. Or maybe he’s six feet under. Reformed, okay? He is not a better person because he has got one less kidney.

Lily: No, I’m just saying that there is a range between angel and cold-blooded killer.

Billy: Right, he’s just misunderstood.

Lily: Why do you always think the worst of him? Remember when you thought that he poisoned rey, right? And he had been framed.

Billy: Okay. Adam and victor are coming after chanccomm. That we know is true.

Lily: Okay. So, what’s our game plan?

Billy: We find jesse gaines, dead or alive. He’s our best weapon. You have always loved vicks vapors.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Lily: Look, if something did happen to gaines, our goal would be to prove that adam is responsible.

Billy: And a bonus to that — it would decimate newman media.

Lily: Please tell me that’s not the scenario that you’re hoping for.

Billy: Oh, no. Best-case scenario would be finding gaines alive. Then we get his full cooperation. That way, we would have the evidence to prove not only ashland’s crimes, but that adam and victorere complicit I mean, clearly something has happened to change that, and we don’t know what. I mean, maybe he got a bigger payoff. You know, that kind of money can make a man disappear.

Billy: Mm.

Lily: But, I mean, even if we do find him, he might not want to talk to us. So we have to find something more reliable than gaines to fend off an attack from newman media.

Billy: Got any ideas?

Lily: Actually, as a matter of fact, I do.

Sharon: Okay, sorry about that. I just wanted to make sure adam and sally had left.

Rey: Mm. Now that the coast is clear?

Sharon: I want you to know i would be just as annoyed with billy if he were attacking someone other than adam. He’s stirring things up again. And the accusations he’s making are way out in left field.

Rey: How do you know what he’s claiming?

Sharon: Well, I ran into billy in the park, and i overheard part of his phone conversation.

Rey: After I told you it would be better if you didn’t get involved.

Sharon: Well, actually, yes.

Rey: [ Scoffs ]

Chloe: [ Chuckling ] Did you have so much fun with grandma? I bet you need a nap and a snack.

Kevin: Oh, that makes two of us, kiddo.

Chloe: [ Chuckles ]

Kevin: Hey.

Sally: Hi. Look at this handsome little guy.

Kevin: [ Chuckles ]

Sally: Was that a yawn I see?

Kevin: Yeah. He had a very long morning with his grandma. They fed the ducks. They were on the swings. He’s basically living his best life.

Sally: Lucky kid.

Kevin: Actually, I hear you’re the one with all the luck these days. Congratulations on your show-stopping wedding gown.

Sally: Thank you.

Chloe: No, that’s not luck. I mean, come on. That’s — that’s a lot of talent and a whole lot of nerve.

Kevin: [ Chuckles ] Well, with a recipe like that, anything can happen. Alright, I’m gonna go grab some coffee before I head back to work. I love you, buddy.

Chloe: Say bye to daddy.

Kevin: I’ll see you guys later.

Chloe: Bye. So, how does it feel to be the most popular designer around?

Sally: Like a dream. I have been getting calls and texts and e-mails from fashion magazines and websites, department stores, and boutiques about my designs. Everyone but fenmore’S.

Chloe: Imagine that.

Sally: Where do things stand between you and lauren?

Chloe: Well, we haven’t made up completely, but it’ll happen.

Sally: Okay. Well, I’m glad to hear it because we may have another problem on our hands.

Abby: Shh, shh, it’s okay, dominic. It’s okay. Shh, shh, shh, shh, shh. It’s alright. Mommy’s here.

Mariah: Hey. Is dominic alright?

Abby: Nothing I do seems to be working.

Mariah: Maybe I can help?

Ashley: Would you mind warming up a bottle?

Mariah: Yeah, yeah, of course.

Ashley: Thank you.

Mariah: I’ll be right back.

Ashley: Thank you.

Abby: I feel like dominic can sense that I’m upset and it’s making him upset.

Devon: Well, hey, do you want me to take him for a minute?

Abby: Yeah. Would you?

Devon: Of course. Of course. Come here.

Abby: You got him?

Devon: Yeah. There you go, buddy.

Abby: There you go.

Devon: There you go. You’ll get your bottle, you’ll be feeling much better.

[ Crying subsides ]

Ashley: You really are a baby whisperer, aren’t you?

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: Well, it’s a good thing because I can’t even do the simplest things right. I can’t help chance. I can’t give my baby what he needs.

Ashley: Honey.

Devon: Come on.

Ashley: The baby’s fine.

Abby: You know what? I think I just, um — I need some air.

Ashley: Okay. Want me to go with you?

Abby: No, no. I just need to be by myself. Thank you. Um…can you make sure dominic is okay?

Ashley: Yeah, if you’re sure.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Abby: Yeah.

Ashley: Oh, my god. My poor sweet girl. I wish there was something i could do. I mean, this is so unfair.

Devon: Yeah. It’s okay.

Ashley: Oh, baby.

Devon: It’s alright.

Sharon: Billy was on the phone in a public place. It’s not like I tracked him down and was eavesdropping on purpose. But then I heard him talking about adam, and that’s when i realized that’s why he came to you with his accusations — because he knows that you’ve had personal problems with adam in the past.

Rey: Well, that’s a nice way to put it.

Sharon: And he was manipulating you. He was trying to take advantage of that.

Rey: No. I didn’t get sucked in. But apparently you couldn’t resist, which is why I didn’t want you to get involved — because I knew this is exactly how you would react.

Sharon: Well, this is a perfectly normal, natural reaction. Billy is spreading ugly rumors again. You know, he doesn’t even know if a crime has been committed or not, but he can’t wait to pin it all on adam.

Rey: Billy’s only asking questions at this point, and they do not seem unreasonable. Adam’s got a pretty nasty track record.

Sharon: Well, he’s changed.

Rey: It wasn’t that long ago that he kidnapped chelsea.

Sharon: That was a low point for him, but, you know, he’s come a long way since then.

Rey: Okay. Sharon, the sacrifices —

Sharon: Even nick has noticed the changes in him. He sees how hard adam’s trying. And billy has admitted to me that he’s never gonna get over what happened with delia. Every time he sees adam, he sees a monster.

Rey: Yeah. What do you see? A victim that always needs saving?

Sharon: No.

Rey: Okay. Then why are you getting involved? I heard what you told lily.

Sharon: Oh! Yeah, you know what? I shouldn’t have done that. I shouldn’t be telling her what to do. That really wasn’t my place. I think I just — it was an impulse.

Rey: [ Chuckles ] Oh, it’s always your impulse to protect adam. I think we both need some air.

Sharon: Okay. I love you, too.

Lily: Listen, I agree with you. We do need an ally. But we need someone more trustworthy than gaines, someone who has influence over victor and ashland. And you know that would be victoria.

Billy: Victoria?

Lily: Yes.

Billy: The one that is furious with me for bringing her groom’s blackmailer to her wedding?

Lily: Yeah. Listen, she had every right to be angry with you. But you redeemed yourself. You deleted the video that gaines sent you, and so now you’re back in her good graces.

Billy: I think you’re being a little too overly optimistic.

Lily: Why don’t you just text her? Just see what she says.

Billy: [ Laughs ] I really, uh — I don’t feel comfortable asking her for protection.

Lily: Don’t look at it like that. I mean, of course we can take on victor and adam alone. But if victoria can convince victor to stand down, then we can avoid, you know, battling over something that doesn’t need to happen.

Billy: No, I think you’re right. It is a good strategy. She’s a lot easier to find than gaines. But I am not giving up looking for him.

Lily: Fine. Don’T. But as long as we work this angle, too.

Billy: [ Exhales heavily ]

Chloe: So, what kind of trouble are we talking about?

Sally: Well, I was just at crimson lights, and adam and billy got into quite the disagreement.

Chloe: Well, that’s how they always act whenever they’re within spitting distance of each other.

Sally: Yeah, but this one sounded pretty serious.

Chloe: You know, I just wish that billy could learn how to walk away from a fight. What does this have to do with newman fashion?

Sally: Okay, there’s a possibility that I’m being paranoid. Adam said that there was nothing to worry about. I just got the impression that both of them are getting ready to go to war. And we have such big plans. We are on the verge of a huge breakout success. So, how do we make sure that the fallout from their feud doesn’t hit us?

Ashley: Look at him. So much going on around, and he’s just so peaceful.

Devon: Life is so simple when you’re this small. All you got to do is eat and sleep and just soak up all the love in the room around you.

Ashley: There’s a lot of that.

Devon: Yeah, there is. Ah. That’s it.

Ashley: [ Voice breaking ] It just breaks my heart to think that…you know, he might not ever meet chance. I know how badly chance wanted to be a daddy.

Mariah: Hey, don’t — don’t say that. Don’t even think it ’cause he can’t be gone.

Ashley: Listen, I really hope you’re right, you know?

Mariah: Should somebody go after abby and make sure she doesn’t need anything?

Ashley: I think that’s very sweet of you, but I think she just needs some time alone, okay?

[ Dominic fussing ]

Devon: Ohh.

Ashley: You really are a natural with him.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] We just like hanging out together. That’s all. [ Chuckles ] It’s okay.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Christine: Where’s abby?

Ashley: She went out to get some air. Should I go find her? Do you have news?

Christine: No, uh, nothing new, I’m afraid. Everyone’s just trying to figure out how this could have happened.

Devon: I’m sure you have an opinion.

Christine: I do.

Devon: You can be honest with us. I mean, do you really think there’s a possibility that chance made it? Johnson & johnson is building a future

Christine: If you’re looking for definitive answers, I…

Ashley: We want your opinion. Please. Could chance still be alive?

Christine: Well, here’s what we know. The explosion happened in the middle of the night, so it’s not necessarily true that chance only would have taken off his watch to go out and meet someone. He could have just been getting ready for bed. But I didn’t want to say that in front of abby.

Ashley: I understand. I appreciate your candor.

Christine: I wish I had better news.

Ashley: Thank you so much for coming here in person to tell us. I mean, it couldn’t have been easy for you.

Christine: I mean, just now I’m devastated for her, and I’ll help her get through this any way I can.

Mariah: We’ll all be here for her and dominic in every way possible.

Ashley: Thank you, mariah.

Devon: Everything’s gonna be just fine, little guy. It’s gonna be just fine.

Abby: I told everyone that i needed air, but really I just wanted to be here.

[ Sniffles ] Where you proposed to me, chance, where you — where you asked me to be yours forever.

[ Sighs ] And you said our life would be full of adventure. That we could handle anything that life threw at us. And we made so many beautiful promises that day, visions of what our life would look like. And…I believed every word. So I don’t care what everyone says, chance. I am not giving up on you. I can’T.

[ Sighs ]

[ Sniffles ] Dad, hi. It’s me. I really need your help.

[ Sighs ]

Kevin: Hey, you working on a tough case? Or is this personal and none of my business?

Rey: No. Have a seat. It’s actually the same headache you’re dealing with.

Kevin: Adam?

Rey: You know, the man’s like a chronic disease. Once you think you got him licked and built up an immunity, he just pops up, hits you from a different angle.

Kevin: I haven’t had a good night’s sleep since chloe started working for him. I just know it’s not gonna end well.

Rey: You know, after everything she’s been through, why would she take the job?

Kevin: [ Sighs ] She did it for chelsea. She’s her friend to the end, and she wants her to have a soft place to land. Chloe’s strong enough now that she can take what she needs from him and keep her distance otherwise, but it still feels like she’s playing with fire. And the man put her through hell.

[ Sighs ] She’s recovered, right? But I haven’t forgotten. One of these days, adam is going to take a step too far. He’s gonna land himself in prison, for good this time. And as far as I’m concerned, that day cannot come soon enough.

Adam: Well, thank you for coming. Please have a seat.

You said you need some investigative work done?

Adam: This — this needs to be handled in the strictest confidence. No one can know about this, except us and victor.

With my boyfriend. And now it’s back to regular life. And I actually do have some errands that I need to run before I knock out. I think I will add one of my favorite pastries to my caffeine.

Sharon: I promise I will have a pastry with your name on it tomorrow.

Elena: Oh, thank you.

Noah: I’m assuming she’s a regular?

Sharon: Yeah. She lives here. I mean literally lives here, up in the apartment. She used to be lola’s roommate before lola left for miami.

Noah: Huh. I — I guess I just assumed that she lived with nate. But I get couples wanting to keep separate places. Some people need that distance.

Sharon: Is that just a general observation, or are you referring to what happened in london?

Noah: It was just a thought, mom. Alright? Don’t worry.

Sharon: The way you keep trying to avoid the subject makes me think otherwise. So, how worried should I be?

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: So, you have time for coffee with jack, but you don’t have time for us to talk things out. And tonight’s winning numbers are 18,

Phyllis: Okay.

[ Sighs ] Listen. I was just a little frustrated and angry to deal with you earlier, and I just thought that jack could bring me down a notch. That’s all.

[ Sighs ]

Nick: Yeah. You needed to see jack because, uh, you were angry about my text.

Phyllis: Okay, it wasn’t just the text. It was the argument that we had yesterday. That’s what it was about. And I went to all this trouble to get a bunch of stuff and create, like, a romantic dinner, and, you know — which is why i just drank a bunch of champagne in my room alone.

[ Sighs ]

Nick: But I canceled, so in a way, it is about the text.

Phyllis: Okay, it’s about the text. It’s about — and I know that overindulging in my room was a mistake. I know that.

Nick: I’m not judging.

Phyllis: Really? That’s shocking because you usually would. That’s why I felt the need to criticize myself before you had a chance to.

Nick: I’m sorry if I made you feel like that. That was not my intention.

Phyllis: Okay. I believe you. Listen, I’m just, um — I’m hurt and angry and… I don’t know what’s going on with us. We are so out of sync.

Nick: Well, I do know us not talking to each other is just making the problem worse.

Phyllis: Okay, well, I just needed to take a second. I needed some space before I say the wrong thing. You know what I’m saying. You understand that, right?

Nick: Yes. I get it. I think both of us have let our emotions get the better of us, which hasn’t helped matters. So, let me just say this, and then I’ll take off. You got nothing to be scared of.

Phyllis: I’m a bigger mess than I was before. Can we get out of here, please?

Jack: You don’t have to ask a second time.

Sharon: I won’t pry about that anymore.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: But can I ask, um — is your relationship ending the only reason why you wanted to leave england?

Noah: No. I was serious when I said I was feeling like I was stuck in a rut, and both professionally and artistically, I — I just needed a change, and I think coming home was the right move.

Sharon: I’m just glad you’re here.

Nate: I’m more than willing to look into this other treatment and share my opinion. But I still think your oncologist is probably the best source for advice about potential next steps.

Victoria: Well, we’re not actually happy with the doctor. He’s not really keeping an open mind about other options, and he’s not listening to ashland’s needs and his concerns.

Ashland: Yeah, nate, I don’t want to waste any more of my time and energy trying to convince this man to listen to me.

Nate: Okay. I understand. Sometimes a doctor isn’t a good fit for a patient. And it’s always good to get a second and perhaps third opinion.

Ashland: I appreciate that, nate. And I deeply appreciate your support and friendship, as well.

Nate: Always happy to help. Well, go ahead and e-mail the information about the peruvian treatment, and I will get back to you.

Victoria: Will do.

Ashland: And, nate —

Nate: I know. I know. As soon as possible.

Victoria: We’re trying to remain realistic about this, but we’re hoping that you’ll have some good news for us.

Nate: Me too.

[ Sighs ] I just heard something amazing!

Phyllis: Mmm. The fall air. I love it. I love the company, too.

Jack: I’m happy to provide it.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] I’m sorry. I keep on dumping all of my stuff on you. It must be déj vu for you.

Jack: No, it doesn’t feel like that at all, and I don’t want you feeling bad for turning to a friend, no matter what the problem is. So, what happened last night?

Phyllis: After I spoke to you, I went back to the place, and I set everything up, you know, very romantic, the whole shebang, right? And I got a text from nick saying that he had to stay home with christian. And I get that. Christian comes first. I mean, but I just wonder if it was even true.

Jack: Well, do you really think he would use his son as an excuse not to talk to you?

Phyllis: I don’t know anymore. I don’T. I just know he’s going through a lot of turmoil with his family, and that turmoil seems to be bringing out issues in our relationship.

Jack: Can you articulate those issues — not to me — to nick and to yourself and, more importantly, to each other?

Phyllis: No. I don’t even know what they are. Honestly. I’m so irritated. And I know that nick was as frustrated with me as I was with him yesterday. But then he shows up this morning like, “no problem. Let’s talk. It was just a bump in the road.” But it’s not a bump in the road. We’re not okay. And — and I just had to get out of there.

Jack: Okay, but if nick is talking like things will be okay…

Phyllis: I’m not okay. I’m not. I don’t live in denial. You know that. I don’t know what’s happening with us, but none of it is alright.

Sharon: Well, if you’re at loose ends, you could always work here. And I’ve heard that deep-cleaning an espresso machine is a great way to get out of an artistic rut.

Noah: Why do I feel like I’m being conned?

[ Both laugh ]

Nick: It’s nice to see you two having fun.

Noah: You okay?

Nick: Yeah. Why?

Noah: Doesn’t seem like it. Have things gotten worse between you and victoria?

Nick: [ Sighs ] I’ve not seen vick since she and ashland got home from tuscany.

Sharon: Well, I spoke to billY. Now I understand ashland has, a much darker past than I had realized.

Nick: I don’t want to get into the details, but there’s been a line drawn in the sand in this family, and dad, vick, and adam are one side, and I am firmly on the other. And mom, as usual, is somewhere in the middle, trying to bridge the gap.

Sharon: Really? That’s a shame. Things seemed to be going so well between you and your family.

Noah: Well, if there’s anything I can do to help, I will. And I know grandma will, too.

Sharon: And I’m here for you, too.

Noah: And no doubt phyllis has got your back.

Nick: Yeah. You would think.

Sharon: What does that mean?

Nick: Phyllis and I are just not in a good place right now.

Noah: Really? It seemed like you guys were all good in italy.

Nick: We spent most of that trip kind of sniping at each other. I don’t know if it was me taking my frustrations out with the family on her, if I was hiding behind my anger for dad and just kind of ignoring the problems that have been ongoing with us, but — I don’t know, man — things just keep getting more tense, and it’s frustrating ’cause every time we talk, it’s like I take one step forward and then six steps back. And…It’s unsettling ’cause, before then, I thought we were really solid.

Noah: Yeah, you know, it’s — it’s a weird feeling when you think everything’s okay… and then suddenly it’s not.

Nick: Hmm. You say that like you know the feeling.

Noah: I experienced something similar recently. I was just telling mom that things haven’t been great for me in the romance department back in london. That’s part of the reason i decided to come back home.

Nick: You running from a break-up?

Noah: Nah, I — I wouldn’t say that. I just — I wanted to be around my familY. It’s nice to be surrounded by the ones who love you the most, especially when you feel like your relationship’s going completely off the rails. Not to say that you and phyllis are completely derailing or anything. It seems like you guys are just hitting some rough waters. I’m sure you’re both strong enough to find your way through.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] You’re awfully quiet.

Sharon: Hmm? Well, what do you expect me to say?

Victoria: I am just so relieved that nate agreed to help us. Although I’m not surprised. You know, it’s really nice having a friend who also happens to be a brilliant doctor.

Ashland: Yes.

Victoria: Ashland. What is it?

Ashland: Nate didn’t seem very enthusiastic about the experimental treatment.

Victoria: Well, how could he be? He doesn’t know much about it. We just — we need to be patient.

Ashland: You know, before i decided to seek treatment, I was at peace with my fate.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Yes, I know. It took a lot of persuading on my part to get you to change your mind about fighting this disease.

Ashland: And I’m so glad that I did. And now that we’re married, i hate the idea of giving up anD…not being with you. What if this is a battle I can’t win? Alice loves the scent of gain so much,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Elena: Hey, you.

Nate: Hey. How you doing? And how are you still upright? I figured you would have crawled in bed by now.

Elena: Yeah, that’s next on my agenda. But I was starving. Hence, the detour. I wish I’d know you were coming here. I could have joined you.

Elena: I knew you were busy. I got your message that you were gonna be seeing victoria and ashland. How are they? Are they still floating on air post-wedding?

Nate: Not exactly. Turns out ashland’s protocol isn’t working as well as he and victoria had hoped. So they’re interested in a new treatment, and they want me to take a look into it for them.

Elena: Are you worried about what you might find?

Nate: Yeah. This isn’t a typical medical consult. Ashland’s not even my patient. He’s a friend. I’m personally invested in what happens to victoria and ashland, so I can’t maintain the usual degree of professional distance. And…it would be a lot easier if I could. What if I can’t tell them what they’re hoping to hear?

Ashland: You know, for a while, I was so swept up in all the wedding plans and praying that you would forgive me for my sins and hoping that gaines wouldn’t ruin the day. And I’m so grateful that everything worked out, and i couldn’t be more thrilled that you and I are married.

Victoria: I am, too. And I meant every word of my vows. We’re in this together.

Ashland: Yeah, but after receiving these test results, I… just the harsh reality of the situation is staring me in the face. And none of my power or money or influence can get me out of this, and I’m running out of options. I mean, maybe nothing has worked yet because there’s nothing that will work.

Victoria: No. I refuse to accept that. Look, I know that you’re feeling shaken because of the test results, but you’re not looking and thinking about the statistics here. There are people who — after having received the right treatment, they’ve bought themselves more time. Some of them have even beaten it. That — that could happen.

Ashland: You know, for the first time since I decided to fight this, I’m actually scared because the odds are not in my favor.

Victoria: Well, since when have you ever cared about the odds when you want something? You’ve beaten the odds your entire life. I know you’ve been through some rough times, but it’s only made you stronger. You said you were gonna fight this, so you better damn well fight it.

Ashland: Nobody has ever had as much faith in me as you do.

Victoria: Well, look, I know that you’re gonna have some vulnerable moments. But if you’re weak, then — then let me be strong for both of us. We’ve come this far. I mean, we’ve overcome so much. We can’t give up on our future.

Ashland: [ Breathes deeply ]

Sharon: Every relationship has its issues. You know, rey and I have certainly had ours. But, you know, we’ve worked on them, and we continue to do so. So, that’s just part of any successful relationship.

Nick: Hmm. Well, what do you think about me and phyllis specifically?

Sharon: I think, uh, communication is the key.

Nick: I bet she got that off a bumper sticker, don’t you?

Noah: [ Laughs ]

Sharon: Look, um, I don’t know what you want from me. I — the last time we talked about this, I told you I just want you to be happy but you thought that I was saying you were settling, and i never uttered those words.

Nick: It was unfair of me to jump to that conclusion.

Sharon: Okay, well, I want to admit that I’m a little biased when it comes to you and phyllis, so I’m probably not the best person to ask.

Nick: Yeah. Sorry to put you in this awkward position. I’m just dealing with a lot right now. Kind of been bottling it up inside, and the person I always talk to about things like that is victoria. And that door is currently closed. You know, I had the best intentions when it came to her. And she doesn’t understand why i did it or where I was coming from. She doesn’t appreciate it, and now there’s this giant wall between us, just like there is between me and phyllis. Really starting to wonder if I’m the problem.

[ Exhales sharply ]

Phyllis: Nick is going through so much with his family. You know, I can’t win. He doesn’t want to hear the truth.

Jack: Well, maybe — just maybe — your truth isn’t the same as nick’s truth.

Phyllis: What does that mean?

Jack: Okay, for example — and I’m going back a bit — when things got ugly with your own father, you cut all ties with him. You ran away from your family.

Phyllis: Are you serious right now, bringing up my own father? Really? I-I left the family because my father was a criminal. He was a horrible man. He stole from the elderly to make a profit.

Jack: I understand that. But maybe, deep down inside, you wish nick would make the same decision you’ve made, when you know he won’t, when history has proven he can’T.

Phyllis: Okay, well, our situations are different.

Jack: I get that. But maybe you’re holding nick’s decision against him because he didn’t make the same one you’ve made.

Phyllis: Okay. Um, are you saying that I’m responsible for this? Yawns “okay okay, I’m up, I’m up!”

Elena: I love how much you care about the people in your life, but whatever happens to ashland isn’t on you. They asked you to help them because they knew that you could give it to them straight, as a friend. They’re not expecting you to perform any miracles.

Nate: I wish I had the power to save ashland.

Elena: All you have to do is read the studies on the protocols and give them the facts. That way, they can make an informed decision. I think you can do that without any regrets or guilt.

Nate: That’s why I’m grateful to be with someone who gets it.

Elena: Yes. I speak doctor.

[ Both laugh ]

[ Yawns ] Mnh. Excuse me. Sorry. This girl hasn’t slept in a long time.

Nate: Mm.

Elena: But that didn’t have anything to do with you or what we were talking about. I didn’t mean to ruin the moment.

Nate: You didn’T. But I’m worried you’re about to fall asleep on this couch.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: How about I take you home and tuck you in?

Elena: Yes. I would love that. Thank you.

Ashland: Okay, message received. When victoria newman orders you to fight, you fight.

Victoria: Very good. Other.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] There’s really no reason for any negativity when we have so much reason to have hope.

Victoria: Yeah. That’s right. I believe in the power of hope. A positive mental outlook. I know it’s probably not gonna cure the cancer, but you never know how your attitude might change things.

Ashland: Well…

Victoria: It’s better than the alternative, you know?

Ashland: If nate thinks that this new treatment and the protocol is worthwhile, then, uh, it gives us another reason to be optimistic.

Victoria: Yes.

Ashland: But that also means that if I do decide on this treatment, I might have to jump right into it, which means your plans for a private island getaway would fly right out the window.

Victoria: Well, if they do, they do. I’m not gonna worry about that right now.

Ashland: You’re being very practical, but you’re also a new bride who deserves a beautiful honeymoon. And I was really looking forward to shutting out the world and just being newlyweds for a while.

Victoria: Well…that is a lovely thought, but I really don’t care about the honeymoon. I just want you to get better. And we are not gonna let anything stand in the way of that.

Jack: I am not laying the blame at your feet. Look, there are complicated dynamics involved where you and nick are concerned. Anytime you bring up the newman family drama, it’s bound to stir up…intense emotions in both of you. I’m sure nick would agree that he hasn’t exactly been his best in this situation.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. And?

Jack: And…in the many years I have known you, I have noticed that when things aren’t going the way you want them to be on a personal front, when your back is up, when you are insecure about your ability to salvage the situation, you tend to look for an exit strategy.

Phyllis: Are you saying that I blow up my relationships instead of seeing if they can work out? Are you saying that I’m my own worst enemy?

Jack: I would hate to see you fall victim to a self-fulfilling prophecy. Phyllis, you and nick have been through so much. And yet you are perpetually drawn back together. There’s a reason for that.

Phyllis: Yeah. And there’s a reason why things don’t work out.

Noah: It seems like the situation with victoria is filled with emotional land mines, but there is no way that you are single-handedly responsible for what’s going on. I’m sure you two can work it out ’cause at the end of the day, you’re brother and sister. We’re all family until we die.

Nick: A blessing and a curse.

Noah: We didn’t ask to be born newmans, but it’s what we are.

Nick: You’re damn right we are.

Noah: And as for phyllis, i think you should try to get down to the root of the problem and fix things as soon as you can, you know, before it gets worse.

Nick: When did this kid get so smart?

Sharon: Well, he takes after me.

Nick: [ Chuckles ]

Noah: It’s just my two cents.

Nick: I, uh — I appreciate it. Um, it’s not quite as simple as you make it sound. You know, phyllis and I have got a very long, rocky past. We’ve hurt each other a lot. I can’t ignore the fact that history could repeat itself.

Noah: It will if you allow those thoughts to take over. Don’t let it be a self-fulfilling prophecy. You can either turn yourself into a victim, or you can fight for what you want, no matter how hard it is. It’s up to you.

Nick: Man, you got to take it easy on your old man.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: Oh, I hear you, son. Yeah, I believe in what phyllis and I have. Even though I can feel her pulling away, I can’t let that get in my head. I got to make her understand what we have is worth fighting for. And you know what? I’m gonna start right now. See you guys later.

Sharon: See you.

Do I need to pretreat my

laundry?

Nate: [ Breathes deeply ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Ashland: Excuse me. It’s nate. Hey, buddy. I’m here with victoria, and I’m gonna put you on speakerphone, okay?

Victoria: Hey, nate. Um, so, what is your take on the information we sent you?

Nate: There has been some promising research about the experimental treatment you found. But I would say it’s still a last resort. Chances of improvement remain slim. I understand this is not what you want to hear.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Yeah, well, we know it’s a long shot, but, uh, I’m willing to do or try anything.

Sharon: You know, I was really impressed with you earlier. That advice you gave your dad — it was spot on.

Noah: For real?

Sharon: Yeah. I’m all for taking control of your life and finding your happiness.

Noah: Mom, I know you have to walk a fine line when you’re talking to dad about these things. But you know you can be honest with me, right? What do you really think about him and phyllis?

Sharon: I want what’s best for your father. I mean that.

Noah: And?

Sharon: And I will never believe that phyllis is what’s best for him.

Noah: What? You — you don’t think they can make it in the long run, even after all they’ve been through?

Sharon: [ Breathes deeply ] I take no pleasure in saying this, but I think that relationship is ready to fall off a cliff. It’s only a question of when.

Noah: [ Sighs ]

[ Door closes ]

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Sally: Adam! Do you have a minute? I don’t mean to brag, but i wanted you to see the latest headline that I spotted. This European magazine is calling me the next Vera Wang. You do know who that is, don’t you, or do you just not agree with the comparison? Okay, well, we need to capitalize on this. And what do you think about doing a feature — “the making of a dream dress”? We can share all the sketches that I made and I can write about the process, I can talk about how I got the measurements and how we rushed it into production and how, against all odds, we got it to the bride just before her wedding day. It’s a really dramatic story. We have to share it. People are gonna eat it up.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: What do you think?

Adam: I think that you should just talk to Chloe, and I’ll go along with whatever she thinks.

Sally: Do you not care?

Adam: Honestly, no, I don’t care about the wedding dress press right now.

Sally: Wow. Okay, I get it. You said you just want to keep things strictly professional when we got back, that’s exactly what you’re doing. I just thought that the fashion division was more important to Newman Media. I guess I was mistaken.

Adam: Sally, you have to stop taking things so personally. There’s more to Newman Media than your fashion line. I’m sorry, I have a call scheduled with an investor that I need to get to.

***************

Nikki: So how long do you think you can stay? I know when we were in London visiting you, I got to see how fabulous your career is going there, so you probably can’t afford to stay away too long.

Noah: Well, thank you for the high praise, but only a proud grandma would characterize my career as fabulous.

Nikki: [ Scoffs ]

Noah: I do okay.

[ Chuckles ]

Nikki: Well, modesty has always been your most endearing trait. I’m sure you must’ve gotten that from me.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Seriously? Hey. Oh, oh, oh. I see where I rate.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] What do you mean?

Phyllis: Well, I mean, since you didn’t want to fly home from Tuscany with me, you wanted to go to London. Apparently
who’s the first person you see when you do get back into town — Sharon.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Noah wanted to surprise his mother and share his big news with her.

Phyllis: What’s his big news?

Nick: Well, he’s decided to stay in Genoa City for the foreseeable future.

***************

Adam: So, my dad tells me that you made quite the noble gesture in Tuscany. You actually deleted the video instead of using it to bury Ashland.

Billy: Don’t sound so shocked.

Adam: No. No, you misinterpret, I’m, um — I’m impressed and I’m shocked that you chose to do the right thing.

Billy: Well, you know me, full of surprises. Speaking of surprises, Jesse Gaines.

Adam: What about him?

Billy: Well, I’m still trying to figure out why he didn’t follow through with his threat to go public with the information that he has. I mean, he’s got the proof to show that Ashland built his entire empire with money stolen from a dead woman.

Adam: Ah. So, the gesture wasn’t that noble after all. You let Gaines be the bad guy.

Billy: Jesse Gaines only agreed to come to Tuscany because he wanted the opportunity to tell the world exactly who Ashland Locke really is. And then he just up and vanishes. Sounds mysterious to me.

Adam: Why is it you are always looking for the nefarious side of everything?

Billy: Maybe it’s ’cause every time you’re involved, it’s always nefarious.

Rey gets annoyed with Sharon because he overhears her telling Lily to reign Billy and stop him from going after Adam again.

Christine shows Abby a picture of Chance’s watch that is buried underneath the rubble of the building. Abby is sure that Chance wasn’t in the building when it exploded so she calls Victor and asks for his help to find Chance.

Billy: I think you might have misinterpreted what you overheard.

Sharon: No, I didn’T. You can’t let go of your anger towards adam or your desire to punish him. Why else would you have one of your reporters dig something up about him?

Billy: You know, sharon, I am constantly surprised by your impulse to defend the guy, especially after the way it’s affected your marriage to rey.

Sharon: Okay, don’t you dare turn this around on me. This has nothing to do with me. What do you expect to get out of this new attack, billy? Some juicy new story? What is it you think he’s done this time anyway?

Victor: Well, son, I’m glad you’re finally coming around. Time we confront billy boy directly.

Adam: Well, I was just waiting till the time was right, but now that I see how obsessed billy is with jesse gaines and ashland, it seems like a perfect time to strike.

Victor: Yeah. It is indeed.

Adam: Billy’s distracted. He’s single-minded in his suspicions about gaines’ fate, so he’ll be off his game. You set him up perfectly with your warning, so he’s gonna be focused on gaines and on high alert.

Victor: Billy boy abbott won’t even know what hit him.

Ashland: So, gentlemen.

Victor: Ashland, do come in.

Noah: Hey, no, it’s good to be home for sure, but, I don’t know, it just feels weird being here for longer than a quick visit, you know, with no idea what my future really holds.

Victoria: Did you see this photo? Isn’t the sunset over the palazzo just breathtaking?

Nikki: Mm. The photographer really captured its true beauty.

Victoria: I know. That was just absolutely perfect. I love this photo of dad walking me down the aisle.

Nikki: Ohh. You know, this marriage really agrees with you. I mean, you’re just glowing and so strong and happy, in love.

Victoria: I’m glad that it shows because I am. I am all of those things.

Nikki: [ Chuckles ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ] I go to bed at night happy, and I wake up feeling the same way. I know, I know that ashland and I will have to face some of these challenges that we have, both in business and personal, but I couldn’t be more content.

Victoria: Darling, it is so wonderful to see you this way.

[ Sighs ] Now, if only you could work things out with your brother.

Phyllis: [ Exhales sharply ]

Nick: [ Exhales sharply ] Okay, okay, I give up. I’m never gonna be able to out-stubborn you, but I have questions, so I want to know if we’re ever gonna talk about this or if you’re just gonna keep slamming doors and giving me the silent treatment. I just heard something amazing!

Phyllis: Sorry, I can’t talk right now. I’ve already taken too much time off of work.

Nick: Work can wait. Look, what I said upset you, clearly, but I’m dealing with some things with my family right now, and I could use your support.

Phyllis: Oh, really, you want my support? Every time I give you my support, you reject it.

Nick: When your support comes in the form of criticism, it makes it seem like you don’t care and it’s just an opportunity for you to newman bash and like you’re not listening.

Phyllis: Of course I’m listening. I’m listening and I’m being supportive, but every time I do that, you seem to get offended.

Nick: Well, you’re telling me to just push the hard issues aside and pretend like everything’s fine because that’d be a lot easier than dealing with my contentious family history.

Phyllis: That’s not what I’m doing at all.

Nick: Well, we’re not understanding each other, so why don’t we just sit down and talk about it calmly?

Phyllis: Okay, you know what? I’m not as calm as you right now. And I’m offended because you are insinuating that I don’t have good communication skills and that I don’t care about your feelings. Okay, maybe the first one is true sometimes, but the second one absolutely is not.

Nick: That is not what I’m doing, alright? It’s not what I mean at all.

Phyllis: Okay, you know what? Um…I don’t want to talk right now. Uh, I just need to be alone. I need some space. Can you give me space?

Nick: [ Groans ]

Victoria: Mom, please, I am in too good of a mood to let thoughts of nick bring me down right now. I will deal with all of that somehow after the honeymoon.

Nikki: Darling, I’m just saying, you can’t let this rift between the two of you go on and on.

Victoria: Mom, don’T.

Nikki: Alright, fine. I will stop. Why don’t you tell me about your honeymoon? You’ve been very mysterious about it. Where are you going?

Victoria: Well, I want to surprise ashland with the perfect stress-free getaway to paradise, somewhere far away from everyone and everything, especially the prying paparazzi eyes.

Nikki: Mm. And?

Victoria: Well, I have arranged for the most romantic trip. Okay, just imagine this.

[ Clears throat ] A private island, five-star meals, personal masseuse, just the two of us together.

Nikki: It sounds heavenly.

Victoria: Yes, I know. I’m thinking that we’ll leave in a week. That is, provided we can get caught up on all of the work that’s piled up while we were in tuscany.

Nikki: Well, if I know my daughter, you will work 24/7 and move heaven and earth to make sure nothing gets in the way of this perfect honeymoon.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Nikki: And you deserve every minute of it.

Ashland: Did I hear correctly? Are you planning to go after chanccomm? Because when it comes to billy abbott, I’m in alignment with any plan that takes him down a notch — or 10.

Adam: We were actually going to include you. We knew you’d appreciate what we were doing, and actually you could be useful.

Victor: Let’s put it this way, ashland, we are interested in destabilizing chanccomm, hmm?

Adam: We want to damage it enough to where we can move in, scoop up the remains.

Victor: We were successful in taking over cyaxares, rebranding it as newman media, and now we plan to look at chanccomm as our next target.

Ashland: Well, I’m impressed you’re going on the offensive. It’s an intriguing plan, but you can’t fool me. This has less to do with business and more to do with taking down billy.

Adam: Well, we can’t deny that.

Ashland: Given that’s your motive, and before you give me any details, you just have to know that I’m not going to be withholding anymore information from victoria. There will be no more secrets, so please don’t tell me any details that you don’t want her to know.

Adam: We can respect that. And you do have a point, she, for some unfathomable reason, always protects billy.

Victor: Alright. Let’s put the cards on the table. I’ve already informed billy boy that we’re coming after him. I want to include you in our strategy, so don’t you be concerned about letting victoria know what we’re up to.

Billy: You know I’m a little surprised that rey didn’t share with you what I told him about adam.

Sharon: Maybe that’s because rey is discreet when it comes to spreading around unfounded allegations. And you clearly don’t have those scruples. So, why don’t you fill me in on all the details?

Billy: Happy to oblige. I’ll give you the short version. I believe that adam, at the orders of victor, made a man disappear because he posed a threat to victoria and ashland’s wedding.

Sharon: And what makes you think that victor and adam had anything to do with this guy disappearing?

Billy: Because he has damning information about ashland’s past. He went to tuscany to confront him about that, and that’s where he disappeared. So I would be careful about championing the man, because it looks like the old adam is back.

Sharon: So what are you saying happened, bribery?

Billy: No, this guy’s taken money from almost everyone, and yet he still went to tuscany to take matters into his own hands, so I would say bribery is the least of it.

Sharon: What else then? Kidnapping? Murder? Are those really the accusations you’re gonna throw around now, billy?

Who’s on it with jardiance?

Billy: Those are your words, sharon, not mine. But it’s very interesting that you would go there –ibery, murder, kidnapping. Not so far-fetched, right? Because you know what adam is capable of.

Sharon: No, I think that it’s not just far-fetched, it’s impossible.

Billy: Really? Why is that?

Sharon: Well, first of all, i don’t think that victor would order something like that. And secondly, what motive would adam have? He has no allegiance to ashland locke. And when it comes to victoria, well, there’s no love lost there, is there?

Billy: No, but I think he really likes being back in the newman family fold and he’s about willing to do anything to stay there.

Sharon: No, no, this is about you, billy, grasping at straws, trying to spread around unsubstantiated negative rumors about adam. And it really saddens me. You know, he deserves every chance to turn his life around, just like everybody gave you. And it’s interesting how that seems to get lost in your obsession.

Noah: I’m sorry about the mess, man. I really appreciate you and my mom letting me crash here. I know it was a little unexpected. I hope it’s cool with you.

Rey: Come on, man. This is your childhood home. You’re always welcome here. We’re thrilled to have you. You got everything you need in your bedroom?

Noah: Yeah, yeah. But I’m assuming a bachelor roommate isn’t exactly what you signed up for.

Rey: No, no, but I’m looking forward to getting to know you better.

Noah: Great. Now you can tell me what’s been going on around here. In town, on the ranch. It’s been a while since I moved away. Every time I came back, it was just for a quick visit, so none of the changes have really registered.

Rey: Actually, not a whole lot has changed. Victor’s acquired a few more horses. They’re in the stables. You ride much?

Noah: I haven’t in a long time, but I grew up on the ranch, so I’m excited to get back in the saddle.

Rey: Ha. And your sister faith, she’s really turned her life around after having a pretty rough year. Look, you didn’t hear it from me, but I think that she’s falling for moses winters. She’s gonna fill you in on the rest, and your mom can bring you up to speed on how things are going at crimson lights.

Noah: Yeah, from what I can tell, she’s been working really hard to keep that place going.

Rey: Yeah, she’s pretty amazing.

Rey: And so are you, man. And from what I heard, you were pretty instrumental in saving mariah.

Rey: Oh, all in a day’s work. Glad I could help.

Noah: I’m really impressed with everything you’ve done for my family. Staying on top of all the ins and outs. It makes me feel a lot less guilty about moving so far away, knowing how devoted you are. I really appreciate everything you’ve done, especially through some of the brutal times.

Rey: Yeah, it’s all been worth it, you know? Your mom and your sisters are very important to me.

Noah: So how about you, man, you know, how’s the family?

Rey: Well, you know, I miss them, of course, but sharon and I try to get to miami as often as possible. Pretty lucky, though, because this place really feels like home.

Ashland: Well, I’ve got to applaud the cleverness and downright ruthlessness of your move here. Who knew jesse gaines would actually prove to be so useful?

Victor: Good to have you on board, ashland.

Ashland: Now, you’re confident that billy will lean into this trap?

Adam: We have no doubt.

Victor: You’ve got to know that billy boy doesn’t give a damn about facts. But he will move very quickly once he realizes that he can hurt us.

Adam: And that’ll be his achilles’ heel.

Ashland: Well, I see your point. And if you’re successful, chanccomm will definitely be weakened.

Victor: And then we shall rip it out from under his nose. Healthy habits come in all sizes. Some things are good to know. Jack: Thank you.

Sally: Caffeine. Perfect antidote for jet lag. How was your flight back? It was just you and phyllis, right?

Jack: Easy, smooth flight. No bumps.

Sally: Alright. Looks like your relationship with her has been really deepening lately. You guys got to spend some quality time together in italy between kyle and summer’s wedding, and then victoria’S.

Jack: That should come as no surprise to you. You know my history with phyllis.

Sally: That’s right. Funny how you’ve gone from being a couple in the past to being in-laws now.

Jack: I don’t know what you’re getting at or why you’re so curious about my friendship with phyllis, but it seems to me you have your own rather tricky relationship to navigate with your new boss, adam. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some reading to catch up on.

Rey: [ Chuckles ] Well, I hope you’re feeling at home here, too, you know.

Noah: I think it’s pretty obvious I’ve had no problem making myself comfortable in your living room. I’ve grown a little accustomed to my bachelor lifestyle, but i promise to be more considerate in the future.

Rey: I hope you’re not gonna feel uncomfortable living here with your mom, me, and faith. We’re not gonna be cramping your style, are we?

Noah: Trust me, that is not gonna be a problem. I mean, right now I don’t even know how long I’m gonna be staying. To tell you the truth, even though I spent a lot of years in this house, it — I don’t know, it just doesn’t really feel like home anymore. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Now, the crazy thing is, london didn’t really feel like home anymore either. At least not lately.

Rey: You know, I get that. You’re starting to feel like a man without roots. You know, I feel the same thing when I get back to miami. It takes me a minute to settle into that rhythm. Don’t get me wrong, I love my family and seeing them, but it’s just not who I am anymore. It’s not before long I want to get back to sharon and our life here.

Noah: Yeah, I think that’s what I’ve been missing, too. Yeah, I — stuck in this kind of weird limbo, you know, between my childhood home and whatever my future home and life might be.

Rey: Well, don’t worry. I’m sure you’re gonna work it out. In the meantime, you know, kick back. There’s no rush. Enjoy yourself.

Noah: Thanks, rey.

Rey: But you better brace yourself because there’s gonna be a lot of pressure for you to make the move permanent.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Rey: Nobody’s gonna want you to leave here again.

Victoria: Oh! I’m so glad you’re here. Listen, I know I said I wanted to keep the details of our honeymoon a surprise, but I just don’t really know if I can stick to it.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] You are so fired up about this. It’s lovely to see. Go on, tell me everything.

Victoria: Okay, well, maybe just one photo.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ]

Victoria: A tease. Look. Isn’t it fabulous? Look at that.

[ Gasps ] Oh. Ashland. What’s going on? Are you okay?

Ashland: Yeah, no I feel fine. Yeah.

Victoria: Then what is it? There’s definitely something on your mind.

Ashland: I was just at newman media earlier, and i think there’s something that you should probably know. Victor and adam are planning a move against chanccomm.

Victoria: Really? What do you think about it?

Ashland: From a business standpoint, it does make sense. Cripple the competition, fold them into your empire. It’s a move I would make — and I have many times in the past. And it seems as though they’re not interested in playing nice. Far from it.

Victoria: I see. You want me to know that? Why?

Ashland: Because I don’t want there to be any more secrets between us. And you may not want them to go after billy for the same reason that billy claimed he wanted to protect you — for the sake of your children.

Hey! It’s me! Your dry skin!

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Victoria: Do me a favor. Don’t give me any of the details.

Ashland: I don’t understand.

Victoria: Well, you said that going after chanccomm was not an unusual business move, right?

Ashland: Yeah, but what i meant —

Victoria: Look, I don’t need to know how my dad and adam plan to go about this. If billy wants to play in the big leagues, then he needs to step up and protect his company.

Ashland: I got to say, I’m both surprised and impressed by your response, and I will honor your wishes and…keep all of the details from you.

Victoria: You should feel very flattered right now.

Ashland: And why is that?

Victoria: You have won my father’s respect. Victor newman only circles the wagons and goes on the attack for family, so guess what that makes you.

Ashland: Well, when you put it that way, it sounds like cause for a celebration. How about treating ourselves to lunch at society?

Jack: Hey. Join me for a minute.

Phyllis: Ah.

Jack: Come on. Okay, what’s got you down? There’s something going on in that mind.

Phyllis: Don’t push, honestly, because if you do, it’ll all just come spilling out, and I don’t want to throw my problems on you. You don’t deserve that.

Jack: Well, give me a little credit. I’m pretty sure I can handle it.

Phyllis: Alright, you asked for it. Okay. So me and nick. It’s not getting better. I don’t understand what’s happening. It’s like I have to just deal with the real superficial relationship in order for it to work out. Not too deep. You know what I mean? If any conflict arises, we just seem to crumble.

Jack: Okay, are you sure you’re not maybe exaggerating a bit? You two have been through a lot and survived in the past.

Phyllis: I know. I’m not being dramatic. I’m not. It’s just strange. We’re — we’re not on the — on the same planet. I mean, we’re not speaking the same language. We have a different style altogether. I don’t understand this. I mean, no one’s doing anything big. No one’s cheating. We’re not keeping secrets.

Jack: Okay, so what’s the issue?

Phyllis: I don’t know. It’s just all gone sideways. Do you know what I mean? What do I do about that? How do I work that out?

Victor: Well, my goodness. If it isn’t the happy newlyweds. You on a working lunch? Or are you taking a break from all the work that undoubtedly accumulated after your wedding?

Victoria: Ashland has shared your plans with me.

Victor: Well, I’m glad he did. Sweetheart, you must admit that after all that billy boy has done, he needs a wake-up call. He has it coming.

Victoria: You don’t have to convince me. I’m on board. I just want to be spared the details. All is fair in business, as far as I’m concerned, and I’m done protecting billy.

Noah: The ranch looks great as always. I just took a nice long walk around a couple of my old favorite spots.

Nikki: Oh.

Noah: Brought back a lot of memories.

Nikki: It’s so good to have you back. Did you go by the stables?

Noah: Yeah, I did, actually. Rey told me about the new horses. They’re really beautiful.

Nikki: Aren’t they? You and I are gonna have to go riding together. My gosh, we haven’t done that in years. Every time you’re home, it’s usually for some crisis or another.

Noah: Not this time, though. Thank god my mom’s finally healthy. Mariah and faith are both doing well. Finally just a worry-free opportunity to spend some time with the family.

[ Both laugh ]

Noah: I’m sure grandpa told you about the branding work I’ve been doing for newman media. Maybe while I’m here, I can expand on that a little bit.

Nikki: Oh, that would be great. I know victor would love that. And I would be thrilled because then you would be in town for a while.

Noah: Oh, okay, you really jumped on that “for a while” conclusion mighty fast.

Nikki: [ Laughs ] Well, I’m pretty adept at reading the signs.

Noah: Are you sure it’s not just wishful thinking?

Nikki: Most of the things that I wish for do come true eventually.

Noah: Yeah, well, I’d hardly call that magic. No, it’s more so just your sheer uncompromising force of will.

Nikki: [ Laughs ] I have missed that dry sense of humor of yours. But something tells me that there’s something else on your mind.

Noah: Oh, yeah, what’s that, your sixth grandma sense?

Nikki: Is there a reason why you’re here and not in london?

Noah: Don’t worry, I’m not hiding or running from anything.

Nikki: Well, that’s good to know.

Noah: There’s a lot of reasons I want to come spend some time in genoa city.

Nikki: Like what?

Noah: Oh, for one, this whole thing with dad. I’m really worried about how he’s dealing with this rift with victoria, and now he even seems like he’s mad at grandpa, too, for some reason.

Nikki: Yes, I am very concerned about that, as well. And nicholas and victor have always been very different, but the one thing they have in common is their stubbornness. And I’m afraid that’s the reason why this problem won’t be going away so easily. Hi sabrina!

Victor: Son. Just leaving, but if you want to have a cup of coffee, I’ll stay.

Nick: Yeah, thanks. I don’t have time. I’m just gonna grab a quick bite and then go home to christian. Noah’s in town, by the way.

Victor: Yeah, I hear.

Nick: He’s staying at sharon’S. Be nice if he could spend some time with his grandparents.

Victor: Well, from what i know, your mother is planning a dinner. I hope you’ll be there.

Nick: Probably not the best idea.

Victor: Son, I really hope from the bottom of my heart that you can forgive what happened in tuscany. Just get over it. Let it go.

Nick: Well, the wedding’s over, but nothing’s changed. I mean, you use me when you need me, and then you cast me aside in favor of adam when I don’t follow your rules, and I’m over it. It’s got me questioning my place in this family yet again.

Jack: I’m sure I don’t have to remind you, no relationship is easy. They’re all difficult. They’re all tricky. They’re all clumsy and they all inevitably lead to rocky patches.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Jack: And it is a measure of the depth and strength of that relationship how a couple handles the tough spots.

Phyllis: Yeah, well, I mean, the thing is, we’re not handling it at all. At all. I don’t even know if we’re capable of it at this point.

Jack: Well, are you and nick at least talking?

Phyllis: Yeah, I mean, he wanted to sit me down and talk to me.

Jack: Well, that’s a good thing. How’d that go?

Phyllis: I felt like if i would’ve stayed, I would’ve overreacted, so — so I just needed time to clear my head.

Jack: Wait, he wanted to talk, and you walked out?

Phyllis: Yeah. I mean, I felt that was the right thing to do. Otherwise, I would’ve just kept on saying the wrong thing.

Jack: You know what? Taking a step back and thinking it through is not the worst idea you’ve ever had. Look, I have been on the receiving end of your untempered temper, and it ain’t pretty.

Phyllis: Yeah, I mean, that’s why I decided to walk away.

Jack: Yeah. Just take a breath. Taking some air, put your head in the right place before you sit down and have an important adult conversation.

Phyllis: Yeah. Thank you. You always know what to say to calm me down.

Jack: I don’t want you giving up. Don’t give up yet.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

[ Scoffs ]

Adam: Yes, we feel quite good about it, too. Company’s in a strong position and we’re looking into some expansion opportunities, too. Yeah, social media buzz has been great. Given a real lift to the cpms and subscribers to the site. Well, I can’t argue with that. Sally spectra is a valuable asset to newman media. We are happy to have her. Sure, I’ll have my assistant set up the next meeting. Alright.

[ Sighs ]

Victoria: I mean, look at this view. It’s just heavenly, isn’t it?

Ashland: Well, it certainly is.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: You’re really looking forward to this honeymoon.

Victoria: Yes, I am. Aren’t you?

Ashland: Of course I am. Anything that makes you happy, my angel, makes me happy, too.

Victoria: Well, all we have to do is plow through that mountain of paperwork, and then we can escape.

Ashland: Mm.

Victoria: And we can truly unplug.

Ashland: Deal.

[ Cellphone rings ] Excuse me. It’s my oncologist.

Victoria: Take it.

Ashland: Hello, doctor.

[ Clears throat ] What did the latest tests reveal? If you’re on medicare, remember,

Victor: You know, it breaks my heart that you don’t feel part of this family. I mean, why?

Nick: Well, that’s it exactly, isn’t it? Your lack of awareness is at the core of the problem. You never perceive how your actions are seen from your children’s point of view, at least not mine anyway.

Victor: Son, I’ve given you everything, everything you ever needed or wanted. I don’t understand any of this. What is it that I don’t see?

Nick: This ongoing conflict is a push/pull dynamic that is never gonna go away. It’s been going on for decades. I know mom has tried to mediate. It’s no use. I’m not even angry. I’m exhausted. It’s exhausting, and I’m not hungry anymore. I’ll see you later, dad.

Billy: Do you mind if I join you?

Sally: Please. Sit down.

Billy: I was hoping now that you work at newman media, we could have a little chat.

Sally: What makes you think we have anything to chat about?

Billy: Just got a few questions I’d like to ask.

Sally: Oh, really? Are you working on a story about victoria newman’s wedding dress? ‘Cause that really seems to be the only thing the media wants to talk with me about recently.

Billy: Well, it was a beautiful dress. Right now I’m looking for background on a story about newman media and the company’s entanglement in the disappearance of a man named jesse gaines.

Sally: I have no idea who you’re talking about.

Billy: I’m following up on a source that suggested adam and victor were involved in the disappearance. And you flew on adam’s private jet to tuscany, correct? I’m just wondering if you overheard anything, particularly on the return flight.

Sally: I have nothing to say to you. I know that you’re a rival of newman media. My loyalty lies with them, period.

Billy: I wonder how long that’ll last. I couldn’t help but notice the two of you getting cozy at the palazzo. You may think that you have a line into him, but believe me, adam is as savvy and dangerous as they come and he only worries about himself. So I suggest that you protect yourself.

Sally: Well, you’re not the first person to warn me about adam. Pretty sure you won’t be the last. But I’ve also been warned about you and your personal vendetta against him, so you know what? I can hold my own and make my own decisions, thank you very much.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Hey, it’s phyllis. Bring up a bottle of our best champagne, also two orders of filet mignon, and, um… chocolate-covered strawberries, for sure. You know what? Just bring up everything that is a best-seller in our romance and honeymoon package. Yeah, thank you.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Victoria: So, what did the doctor say?

Ashland: Can we maybe talk about this at home or someplace more private?

Victoria: No, no, no, no, no. I can’t wait. I want to know now. What did — what did he say?

Ashland: [ Sighs ] Well, apparently, I’m not reacting to the treatments as everyone had hoped.

Victoria: What does that mean?

Ashland: The chemotherapy’s not working. I mean, we all knew it was a long shot.

Victoria: That’s okay. I mean, we’ll just — we’ll have to deal with it. We’ll find an even more aggressive drug. That’s what we’ll do. Or maybe something that’s even more experimental, if possible. I hope you know that this doesn’t mean that we’re giving up. It just means that we have to fight a lot harder now.

Ashley: Honey, why don’t you just sit down and take a breath?

Abby: They didn’t find chance in the rubble, did they? I mean, maybe he wasn’t even in the building when the bomb went off.

Ashley: I believe that, i really do. I haven’t given up hope, honey, but I think maybe what christine’s trying to do is just prepare in case.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Abby: Maybe it’s the feds with some definitive news about chance.

Ashley: I’m gonna go get it, okay? Just stay put.

Christine: Abby.

Mariah: Hi.

Ashley: Hey.

Mariah: Ashley, um, is something wrong? Is it — is it the baby? Is it dominic?

Ashley: No, the baby’s fine.

Tessa: Christine? Whoa, what’s going on? Is everything okay?

Michael: Oh, hey! I’m so sorry I’m late.

Devon: Hey. It’s okay, michael.

Michael: Hey.

Amanda: It is not a problem. I am just glad that you are here now. We are anxious to hear what is going on with sutton’s case.

Michael: The voir dire is complete.

Devon: That’s jury selection, right?

Michael: Very good. Yes. And I am feeling good about the final 12. Sutton’s defense team, not so much.

Amanda: Why is that?

Michael: They were unhappy about some challenges I made. I was able to get the court to dismiss several potential jurors who seemed to have a bias going in.

Devon: That’s good.

Amanda: Favoring my grandfather, I assume.

Michael: Yeah. Well, it’ll make our job a whole lot easier with a level playing field, huh?

Amanda: All good work, counselor. I wish I could’ve been there to see you in action.

Michael: You’ll get your chance.

Devon: When is the trial set to start?

Michael: Next week.

Devon: That’s very soon.

Michael: I’m ready.

Amanda: Good, because my money’s on you. And I want this over and sutton convicted as soon as possible. The last thing that my mother needs is a long, drawn-out trial, not with her heart condition.

Michael: I had naya’s situation in mind when I devised my case. You’re a key component. That is, if you’ll agree. I’d like you to testify against your grandfather.

Billy: Thank you for coming.

Rey: Sure. What’s this about?

Billy: It’s about a missing person. Someone with a connection to ashland locke. I believe something happened to him.

Rey: Like?

Billy: The guy’s name is jesse gaines, and he has the kind of information that could cause a massive scandal and cost the people involved a fortune. He was on the verge of revealing that information when he suddenly disappeared.

Rey: Well, how do you know he’s not just lying low?

Billy: Well, we have some of the best investigative reporters in america on our payroll, and we haven’t been able to find him.

Rey: And you think locke’s involved?

Billy: I think the real person of interest, who’s smack in the middle of all of this, is adam.

[ Knock on door ]

Sally: Check your e-mail.

Adam: Um, okay. What’s up?

Sally: You said the best thing that you could ask for is a productive and profitable day. Voil. Feast your eyes on not one, not two, but 15 glowing reviews from the european fashion press all about victoria’s wedding and her stunning, one-of-a-kind couture gown by sally spectra for newman fashion.

Adam: That is fantastic. Congratulations.

Sally: Thank you. I’m pretty happy about it, too. It’s not every day you get praise from the movers and shakers of the industry.

Adam: Well, you know what? Why don’t — why don’t we go celebrate? Why don’t we go grab a bite? My treat.

Sally: Yeah, that sounds great. Let’s invite chloe and we will make it a working meal.

Adam: [ Scoffs ]

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] Seriously? Hey. Oh, oh, oh. I see where I rate.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] What do you mean?

Phyllis: Well, I mean, since you didn’t want to fly home from tuscany with me, you wanted to go to london. Apparently who’s the first person you see when you do get back into town — sharon.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Noah wanted to surprise his mother and share his big news with her.

Phyllis: What’s his big news?

Nick: Well, he’s decided to stay in genoa city for the foreseeable future.

Phyllis: He’s leaving london?

Nick: Noah’s calling it “taking a break.”

Phyllis: I thought he loved it there.

Nick: Yeah, I thought the same. So I just really wanted to be there with him when he had this conversation with sharon.

Phyllis: Yeah. Well, you guys must be so excited that you have your son back.

Nick: Yeah. I am concerned, though. I mean, it seems impulsive, and noah doesn’t really want to talk about why he’s leaving the uk.

Phyllis: Do you think something bad happened?

Nick: My gut says yes. I’m hoping it’s nothing serious and that he’s willing to open up about it in the next couple days to me.

Phyllis: Mm. Just like I hope you’re willing to open up to me about, you know, what’s going on between us.

Amanda: You want me to testify against my grandfather?

Michael: All I’m asking you to do is to get up on that stand and say exactly what happened. I mean, you, as sutton ames’ granddaughter, accepted a role on his legal team to defend him against these terrible allegations. But once you dived into the research, your position became untenable, and eventually you concluded that you couldn’t defend the man after all.

Devon: Yeah, is what you’re proposing even ethical, michael?

Michael: Amanda was fired from the case, so we’re not breaking any rules.

Devon: No, I know, but everything sutton said to her, isn’t that protected under the attorney-client privilege or — right?

Michael: Okay, okay, listen. Amanda, all I’m interested in is what you learned after you were fired. That’s the only thing I’ll question you on, alright? And since you weren’t representing sutton at the time, I see it as fair game.

Amanda: The defense sure won’T.

Michael: No, no, their heads are gonna explode. I mean, they’ll be objecting so much. I mean, your testimony is the last thing they’re gonna want the jury to see or hear, which is only gonna make them want to see and hear it more. Look, what testimony is more compelling than sutton ames’ own granddaughter and — wait for it — former attorney?

Christine: According to the state department, given the scope of the attack, it’s doubtful anyone inside survived.

Mariah: Oh, my god.

Tessa: Abby, I’m so sorry.

Ashley: Yeah, we’re trying to be positive.

Mariah: Of course. Well, I mean, it’s — it’s definitely possible that chance, you know, wasn’t in the building.

Abby: Yeah, it definitely is. That’s what I’m holding onto.

Tessa: Well, then we will, too.

Abby: Um, christine, there’s — there’s got to be another contact, someone that you can call, someone with a sliver of hope?

Christine: Maybe. Let me make some calls and see what I can learn.

Abby: Thank you. Okay, so, wow. What brings you guys by? Is everything alright?

Tessa: Yeah, everything’s great.

Mariah: The reason for our visit might — might seem a little silly.

Ashley: That’s okay. Maybe we could use a little of that right now.

Abby: Yeah, I need any and all distractions, please.

Mariah: Well, tessa just got back from victoria’s wedding, and she brought a gift back from italy for — for dominic. Here.

Ashley: It’s so cute.

Mariah: Yeah.

Ashley: Aww. Isn’t that sweet?

Abby: Yeah. [ Chuckles ]

Ashley: Isn’t that sweet, huh?

Abby: Yeah, that — that is so cute. Thank you so much. Dominic’s gonna love that. Thank you for thinking of him. Hey, baby. Hey. Look, look what tessa and mariah brought you back from italy. It’s a little bear. And he’s gonna keep you company. Oh, he is so cute, but not nearly as cute as you are.

[ Sighs ]

Billy: Jesse gaines flew to tuscany in order to confront ashland about his past, secrets buried for a lot of years and secrets that ashland wants to keep that way. Gaines wanted to reveal those secrets, and that’s when he vanished from the newman palazzo.

Rey: What was the nature of the information that gaines wanted to reveal?

Billy: I’d rather not get into that right now. But suffice to say that ashland’s paid a lot of money to keep these secrets quiet. He knows that it would jeopardize everything he’s built.

Rey: How does adam factor in?

Billy: Well, as you know, ashland locke and the newmans are family. You add the merger on top of that, the newmans have rallied around ashland to protect him. Too much at stake. Victor newman would never let some nobody risk it all, and that’s where adam comes in. He was in tuscany, and I believe he’s the one that made it happen. How, I don’t know. At this moment, it’s all instinct.

Rey: Yeah, well, I’m gonna need more than just your instincts before I can even consider opening up an official investigation, billy.

Billy: I know that. But I came to you because i think you know the man adam is, and I don’t think you believe that he’s changed at all. So if you want the opportunity to get justice for this gaines guy and rid us all of adam, this is your opportunity.

Sharon: What are you two talking about so intently? (Drill sergeant) what a pleasant morning. It’s warm, but not too warm.

Nick: I’m not sure what you mean. Nothing’s going on with us.

Phyllis: Alright. I mean, I’m not completely convinced. I mean, that’s what you said, that everything was fine. I need more convincing. Listen…I know things are very difficult for you right now. There’s a lot of strain on your relationship with your dad and victoria, but I want to help you. I want to be there for you. And it just seems like you’re pushing me away, that’s all, and especially — especially — if i say one little thing about your family or agree with you about something you’re saying about your family. You take that as a criticism.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I’m having a rough time, okay? And I’m probably not handling it the way I should be. Phyllis, I’m not pushing you away. Alright? I wouldn’t do that.

Phyllis: Okay. It just seemed like that, and I think it was a lot more than, like, old insecurities coming back, that’s all. Um…i am here for you. I’m your partner, you know? Your teammate. I don’t like being distant from you.

Rey: Billy was concerned about a person who’s gone missing. He was looking for advice on what to do next. Listen, what you’re asking me is out of my jurisdiction, but i can approach the proper authorities at that locale.

Billy: Great. Glad to hear you say that.

Rey: Let me finish. I’m gonna need more to go on, more evidence. What you’re offering me right now is purely circumstantial.

Billy: And if I can get you that, you’ll put the right people on the trail?

Rey: We’ll see.

Billy: Thank you. Sharon, good to see you.

Rey: What?

Sharon: Mm, I’m just curious. Why did billy come to you about this?

Devon: Michael, you’re, uh — you’re asking a whole lot.

Michael: Yeah.

Devon: Yeah.

Michael: No doubt. Nobody wants to get on a witness stand and testify under oath and then be mercilessly cross-examined, but if we want to present our case quickly and effectively…

Amanda: Which is exactly what we want. Sutton belongs in prison, and naya and imani, they deserve peace.

Devon: Sure, but what about your life and what about your peace? I think this is something that you should think about before you just make a quick decision.

Amanda: What is there to think about? Sutton is responsible for my father’s death. I owe him no loyalty.

Devon: I know. I know you don’t owe him anything, but you — you have a very strong emotional connection to all this because he’s your grandfather and ’cause he’s the head of this new family that you’ve become part of.

Amanda: A family that is tired of having every aspect of their lives controlled by him.

Devon: Right, I understand this. I just want you to consider what it means to testify in open court and have your words be out there and be public record that you can’t take back. I just want you to think about it. I want you to think about what it means and how it’s gonna affect your relationships with your new family members — with your mom, with your sister. How could it possibly put you in danger if the whole trial goes south and sutton walks and then wants to retaliate? I mean, michael has made it clear that just being a witness is — it’s grueling.

Michael: Yes, yes, grueling. That’s a good word.

[ Sighs ] Your testimony could span several days. This is not a request that i make lightly.

Devon: Right. So do you want to put yourself through that?

[ Cellphone chimes ] Excuse me. Waiting for a message all day. It’s abby. She’s asking me to come to the mansion because of an emergency.

Amanda: Is there a problem with the baby?

Devon: She didn’t say anything about the baby, but i don’t think that she would ask me to come if it wasn’t something serious.

Amanda: Okay, well, it sounds like she needs you. Go. I’ll be fine.

Devon: I don’t feel right leaving. This is a big decision that you need to make.

Amanda: I will take everything that you said into consideration, but please just tell me as soon as you know what’s going on.

Devon: Okay. I love you.

Amanda: Love you, too.

Devon: I’ll see you, michael.

Michael: Bye. Alright. Listen to me. Let’s go over devon’s concerns and yours one at a time. Because I’m convinced this is our best shot at a conviction. If you’re on medicare, remember,

Amanda: We can only assume that if I testify, the defense will say that I am just trying to settle a score with sutton since he forced my mother to give up my twin and me at birth.

Michael: They can try.

Amanda: And how will you counter?

Michael: That the mounting evidence convinced you that sutton was lying about his involvement in richard’s death, so you went in search for the truth, which you found.

Amanda: A confession that’s not an actual confession, michael. All it is is my grandfather making disparaging remarks about my father, saying that he’s a nobody, talking about the “accidents of birth” that he’s willing to sacrifice and how he can live with what he’s done.

Michael: Well, he also said that richard nealon was a problem that needed to be handled, someone who could tear down everything he had worked to build.

Amanda: It’s still his word against mine.

Michael: Yeah, well, your word is backed up by a recording.

Amanda: A recording that the defense is gonna say is inadmissible because of the way that I obtained it.

Michael: Recording that the jury will know exists and that everything you say is true. Otherwise, why would the defense be so adamant about keeping it out of the courtroom and — and if the judge does not allow the recording to be admitted, which is not a given, the jury will still know what’s on it because no one will be able to unhear your sworn testimony. You know as well as I do, if a prosecutor had to rely on a murder suspect’s full confession, it would be virtually impossible to get a conviction. It happens in only the rarest of cases. Sutton’s legal team just has to create reasonable doubt, and believe me, trust me, they’re going in there with a lot of confidence. We have to take the jury on the same journey you took to see sutton for who he is, for exactly who he is. A man who’s capable of having your father killed and then had the audacity to hire you to defend him.

That’s how we win. That’s how we get justice for your father. That and nothing less.

Amanda: Okay. I’ll do it.

Michael: [ Sighs ]

Rey: Billy came to me for the obvious reason — I’m with the police. He needed guidance on how to proceed with a potential missing-persons case.

Sharon: Who’s missing?

Rey: Someone I never heard of. It probably has something to do with a story that billy’s covering.

Sharon: Well, I watched the two of you talking, and it seemed a lot more intense than that, which leads me to wonder if there is more to this. What else did he say?

Rey: Sharon, you heard what i told him. Without more information, there’s nothing I can do for him. It’ll probably turn out to be nothing. There’s no reason for you to get involved.

Billy: Adam.

Adam: Billy.

Billy: Hi, there.

Sally: Hey. I’m gonna call chloe, see if she’s on her way. I don’t want to start without her.

Adam: Ah. So the gesture wasn’t that noble after all.

Adam: Hmm.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Christine: So I just got off the phone with one of my contacts at the bureau. He had some intel on the bombing. Local police and fire department teams are starting a search-and-rescue of the collapsed building. Unfortunately, there’s nothing to report yet.

Abby: Well, maybe he called or texted me.

Ashley: Anything?

Abby: No, not yet, but, look, I know he’s gonna call me. I know that he’s gonna tell me that he wasn’t in that building and that he is okay.

Mariah: I’m sure you’re right, abby.

Ashley: If he’s in a position to reach out, honey, your husband will. I know he would.

Abby: Christine, don’t you know anyone in D.C.? Someone that you could call?

Christine: There’s a supervisor at justice. I just don’t think she would know anything at this point.

Abby: Please just call them, please. I need to know that my husband’s okay.

Christine: Let me reach out to her.

Abby: I’m coming with you.

Ashley: Guess we just wait.

Mariah: [ Sighs ] Look at this little guy. He’s just sleeping through this whole ordeal. You got the right idea, kiddo.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Devon: Hey.

Ashley: Hi, come on in.

Devon: Thank you. I just got abby’s text asking me to come over here. Is everything alright with the baby?

Mariah: Yeah, dominic’s fine.

Ashley: It’s chance. Something’s happened.

Adam: I’m not sure what you’re implying.

Billy: This profound change, this miraculous transformation that you’re claiming you’ve gone through. All of a sudden now you care about your family? You save teenagers from car crashes and donate your organs. It’s all an act, carefully calculated to win hearts and minds, and one heart and mind in particular. And this time, it’s not victor. It’s sharon. Doing everything you can to show her your hidden nobility. You know, I will say, I am impressed with the lengths that you’ve gone to. I think you understand that it had to be big and bold in order to convince everyone that it was real.

Adam: Huh. Well, you just got me all figured out, don’t you?

Billy: You fool a lot of people, adam, just not me. Or anyone else that knows who you are and what you’re capable of, especially those people that understand the history between you and your father. I mean, is there anything you won’t do to get a pat on the head from your dear old dad?

Adam: [ Exhales sharply ] You know, it sounds like you think that I had something to do with gaines going off the grid.

Billy: I didn’t say that. Didn’t mention anything like that at all. But it is interesting that you would go there.

Adam: Maybe he grew a conscious, you know? I mean, that happens. Look at you. Okay, but that was actually a really bad example.

Billy: I don’t think so. I don’t think gaines is the type, and I pride myself on being able to read people.

Adam: I don’t know, maybe he got another offer. Odds are we will never know.

Billy: Yeah. Well, I would take that bet.

Adam: Spoken like a true gambler.

Sally: Am I interrupting?

Billy: Not at all. Enjoy yourself.

Sally: What was that all about? On ancestry I discovered more about my

Michael: Hmm, one more thing to ponder — hilary.

Amanda: What about her?

Michael: Some members of the jury, if not all of them, are likely to know who she was, perhaps were even fans of her show. So when I mention your identical twin who you were deprived of ever meeting or sharing a childhood with…

Amanda: You don’t think that’s manipulative?

Michael: It’s a fact of the case. It’s what they’ll be thinking of in the jury room at 9:00 at night when they’re deliberating over cold pizza. It’s all about breaking through to their humanity, making a decades-old murder case seem as relevant and urgent today as it was when it was committed, and you’ll be there to lead those people, to let them know exactly what sutton ames took from you. Look, are you alright? I mean, we can take a break.

Amanda: Yeah, no, I’M… I’m fine. Thank you, though.

Michael: Are you 100% sure you want to go through with this?

Amanda: I’m committed to testifying, absolutely.

[ Sighs ] I think that I’m starting to feel overwhelmed because i finally feel like we have a shot at winning this case. Michael, for the first time, I feel like I’m gonna get justice for my father and that i will get a conviction and that sutton will finally pay for what he had done, and when that day comes, I will be enormously satisfied.

Michael: Yeah, you will.

Amanda: But I would trade it all for one day with my father.

Phyllis: Where did you go?

Nick: Nowhere interesting.

Phyllis: Oh, come on. You can tell me. Tell me anything.

Nick: Alright. I was just, uh…thinking about being a newman and what that really means. Which is something I thought I’d dealt with a long time ago. It’s not like I’m adam, like the black sheep of the family or like victoria who’s chained to the office, trying to prove she’s the heir to the empire. I’m just doing my own thing, you know? Trying to stay above the fray, not having any real secret ambitions, not feeling like i have to prove myself to my dad one minute, and the next trying to hurt him. Just being me, you know? But it’s like every time there’s a problem in this family, who do they come to? Me. No matter what is going on, I’m always there for them. But I feel like I’m just constantly on the outside.

Phyllis: Yeah. Despite that, you know, any time anyone has a problem, you are there to protect them or defend them or whatever you need to do. I mean, it must be really frustrating for you, with your family, I mean. It’s like you are always there supporting them and showing loyalty and commitment. You’re like the only one, right? But it’s looked at as, you know, weakness or…not taken seriously.

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Oh, my gosh. Seriously? What did I say? What did I just say?

Nick: I just — I know, okay? I know how much you hate my family, and it’s just — it’s hard to hear how much you can’t stand them.

Adam: Well, it’s a shame chloe couldn’t make it.

Sally: I know. The fashion division is her baby. We should be celebrating together.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] I agree.

Sally: Anyway, what was the deal between you and billy abbott?

Adam: Oh, he was just posturing. As usual. It’s gotten to be kind of a game with us.

Sally: A game?

Adam: Yeah, you know, calling each other out, pushing each other’s buttons. We both claim we’re trying to better ourselves, but neither one of us believes the other is capable of doing it.

Sally: Well, I think you’ve changed your life tremendously. At least from everything I have heard and read.

Adam: I’m working at it.

Sally: But you’re not allowing for the possibility that billy is, too?

Adam: [ Exhales sharply ] There’s a difference. I didn’t like who I was. I think he still misses his reckless lifestyle. I mean, he is a gambler who loses more than he wins. He’s just an addict who has found another way to chase the rush. And he will never forgive me for delia’s death, which there’s nothing I can do about that. And trying to destroy me, it’ll always be one of those rushes for billy.

Sally: I get that.

Adam: Yeah, he’ll never stop grieving the loss of his daughter, never stop blaming me, hating me, which I understand. I do. I earned his hatred. But I will never like the guy or respect the guy. And I’ll sure as hell never trust him.

Sally: Are you afraid of what he might do to you one day?

Billy: Marty. Hey, it’s billy. I’m sorry to bother you again. Do you remember our good friend, jesse gaines? Yeah, well, he’s vanished again, except this time, it’s not his doing. Call it a strong hunch. I think he posed too big of a threat to the newman powers-that-be. Yes, he was in tuscany for the wedding, and that’s where he disappeared during the festivities. My working theory is that victor’s son adam is the one behind it. I talked to the police, but they need more information, and that’s where you come in. I need your investigative talents to find gaines. Drop everything else. You’re the best. Thank you.

Sharon: Now it all makes sense. Why you went to rey.

Devon: I mean, honestly, it’s been hard to try and not prepare myself for something like this happening, just given how dangerous the mission was and how much time chance has been gone.

Ashley: I’ve been afraid of this. I really have been. I mean, the longer this goes on and on, I’ve just been… terrified.

Mariah: Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Tessa: Can’t assume the worst.

Abby: Devon, hey, I’m so happy you could come over.

Devon: Hey, abby. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry to hear this news. Listen, listen to me, listen. None of us are gonna give up, okay? None of us are gonna give up.

Abby: Thank you. I can really use your hope and strength right now.

Phyllis: You know, there is an easy solution to all of this — ignore them. Ignore every single mean thing that your family does to you over and over and over and over again, okay? I mean, you said it yourself, you’re very successful. You’ve built a whole career on your own without your family’s help. Your kids are successful. You are dating a wildly successful woman. Not to mention, I am a knockout. But [Huffs] You don’t seem to look at that. Okay? Just who cares about what your screwed-up family does? Who cares?

Nick: Your go-to solution for any problem is just pretend it doesn’t exist. Well, I can’t do that.

Phyllis: That is not what I’m saying. That’s not what I’m saying.

Nick: This is my family, alright? For better or worse, they’re mine, and I’m dealing with some pretty big issues right now and they’re important to me, and you just want to, like, trivialize them.

Phyllis: I’m not trivializing it. I’m — how dare you say that to me, nick. Seriously.

[ Huffs ] It doesn’t even matter what i say anymore. You always think the absolute worst about me, don’t you? No matter how hard I work to bend over backwards to help you with your family.

Nick: [ Groans ]

Adam: Rest assured, I’m not worried about billy or what he might do to me. But with that said, I mean, things are probably about to get worse between us.

Sally: Why is that?

Adam: Look, like I said, i mean, it’s just — it’s an ongoing thing with me and billy. The details, they don’t really matter. So just I don’t want you to worry.

Sharon: I’ve heard enough of your conversation with your reporter to realize that you’re investigating adam. You obviously believe that he has something to do with this person going missing, and because of that, you went to rey, hoping to dredge the bad blood they’ve had between them in the past.

Billy: That wasn’t my intention, sharon.

Sharon: You used the possibility of getting something on adam to pull rey into this. Whatever your excuse is this time, it’s always something to try to go after him, to try to hurt him. When is this gonna stop with you, billy? When are you gonna let go of your hatred for adam?

Sharon: Noah! Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh!

Noah: Hi, mom.

Sharon: Oh, I’m so shocked! I thought you were in london.

Noah: Eh.

Nick: Well, noah asked me at the last minute if we could switch things up.

Noah: And dad was cool enough to say yes.

Nick: So, we stopped by his flat. He grabbed some of his stuff, and here we are.

Sharon: Well, that almost sounds like you’re planning to stay for a while.

Noah: Yeah, I just needed a break from the whole london scene. Yeah, I’ve been wanting to visit home for a while, anyway.

Sharon: Well, this is such a great surprise. You know what? I’m gonna take the whole day off so I can hear all about what’s going on with you.

Noah: That’d be great.

[ Laughs ]

Sharon: This is an amazing surprise.

Mariah: Oh, my gosh! Hey.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Mariah: Good morning. Look who’s awake.

Tessa: Oh! What year is it?

[ Both laugh ]

Mariah: Oh, you needed the rest. And thank you for my gift.

Tessa: I’m glad you liked it.

Mariah: I do. It’s very…very italian, very cute, kitschy.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Mariah: I love it.

Tessa: Mm. So, um… you barely spoke when I got home. I fell back asleep, so I…

Mariah: Yeah. We have a lot to talk about.

Ashley: I can’t believe what a big boy you are. You’re getting so big.

Abby: And look at his little eyelashes. Aren’t they perfect?

Ashley: And that sweet smile.

Abby: Mm-hmm. Dominic is an angel. And he’s a pretty good sleeper, too.

Ashley: You were not. I remember when you were just born, I just wanted to take you out and show you off. But every time I left the house, you would just scream and scream.

Abby: Oh, no!

[ Both laugh ]

Ashley: It’s true. But I’d be around all these mothers that were bragging about how easy their babies were, and I would just want to punch them.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Ashley: You are a lucky baby. You got victor, who’s so smitten with you, and I know brad would be, too.

Abby: Mm.

Ashley: How are things going? Are you holding up okay?

Abby: I’m not gonna lie. The past few days have been rough, not just because I’m missing chance, but because he’s missing everything. I mean, all of the changes that dominic’s going through, it’s not fair to chance, and it’s not fair to me, and it is certainly not fair to our son.

Victoria: Well, I think that’s it for the merger.

Ashland: We’ve got through the whole list?

Victoria: Yes, legal, finance. I think that’s everything. Next, we have…

Ashland: P.R. And media, which interviews to grant.

Victoria: And which ones to avoid, or, at least, postpone. I got some notes from debra so that we can prioritize.

Ashland: Are we handling them together, or divide and conquer?

Victoria: That depends on the outlet and which writers they assign.

Ashland: You know, after all my years in business, I am still so surprised at how quickly things can pile up when one decides to do something crazy.

Victoria: You mean like get married? Are you having any regrets about that?

Ashland: Absolutely not… although I certainly have given you some reasons.

Lily: I swear, flying wears me out.

Billy: I know what you mean.

Lily: No, you don’T. Look at you. You’re wired. Are you upset that you deleted the video gaines sent, about ashland building his empire with stolen money? You did delete it, right?

Billy: Lily, you saw me do it.

Lily: Okay, I’m just checking.

Billy: No, I have accepted the fact that that’s victoria wants. I won’t be the one to reveal to the world who her new husband really is.

Lily: But…

Billy: But I am surprised that gaines didn’t, after he said he was going to, and it makes me wonder why.

Lily: Well, I mean, your guess is as good as mine.

Billy: You know what? Right now, it doesn’t even matter. Victor and adam are our real threat, and that is what we need to be focused on right now.

Lily: I mean, I will say i did find it kind of odd when you told me how blatant victor was by getting in your face.

Billy: Why? What do you mean by that?

Lily: Well, I’m just wondering if maybe he did it to unnerve you. And clearly it’s worked. – Oh…oh. – What’s going on?

Abby: I can’t even send chance a message — no photos, no videos. I don’t know if he’s in the states. I mean, he could be on another continent for all I know. It’s maddening.

Ashley: Honey, he would be here if he could be. And I’m sure that he’s just as tired of this as you are and misses you just as much.

Abby: Everyone close to me is trying to stay positive. They think that’s gonna make me feel better. And I am trying to look for the silver lining. But, mom, it keeps getting harder and harder. I don’t mean to sound ungrateful.

Ashley: You don’T. You sound frustrated and upset.

Abby: This assignment has gone on much longer than anyone anticipated, with no news, no end in sight. I don’t even know what this mission entails or how much danger my husband is in. And I’m his wife.

Ashley: I hope you know that there are so many people that would drop everything in a moment’s notice if you ever needed them — father, me, jack, traci, tessa and devon and mariah. By the way, how’s mariah doing? Is she feeling any stronger?

Abby: She stopped by earlier. She seemed to be doing better, much more in control.

Ashley: That’s good — a little progress.

Abby: When she moved out, i was really worried about her. But I think she did the right thing. She got some distance, and she took some time to process everything that she’s been through.

Ashley: Were you nervous at all about her being around the baby, after she broke down after the christening?

Abby: Yes, at first, not out of fear for dominic’s sake but more out of concern for mariah and how she would handle things emotionally.

Mariah: So much has changed since you left for italy. And I have done a lot of soul-searching.

Tessa: I’m listening.

Mariah: I see now how unfair it was to make these unilateral decisions about our future, that it would put a strain on our relationship. Springing the idea of having a baby right away, expecting you to get pregnant, when we’ve barely even discussed the possibility of having a kid one day. I-I just don’t know what I was thinking.

Tessa: I mean, you were traumatized and confused. You were dealing with a lot of emotional pain in the best way that you knew how.

Mariah: Thanks, but… that’s really no excuse. It was selfish and totally misguided, and I feel awful about it.

Tessa: Well, I really wish you wouldn’T.

Mariah: Well, I do. So, I am so, so incredibly sorry. Nothing matters more than what we’ve built.

Tessa: That’s how I feel, too. When you asked me to cancel my trip so that I could stay with you —

Mariah: [ Chuckles ] Don’t remind me — another thing that I’m cringing about.

Tessa: No, don’T. You know, honestly, I probably should have bowed out.

Mariah: No! No, absolutely not, tessa.

Tessa: You have been through so much. You were struggling. You weren’t ready for an event like that. And you needed me. Frankly, I spent most of my time in tuscany just worried about how I had handled things. I was worried that I had ruined the best thing that I had ever had. I was worried that I pushed you away and that when I came back, you were gonna tell me that we were better off apart.

Mariah: I would never do that.

Billy: I think you’re right. This isn’t victor’s regular M.O. He doesn’t show his hand like this. He’s all about the icy stare, leaving your imagination to make the worst of it.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, the few times that we’ve clashed, that’s been my experience.

Billy: It reminds me of a moment that I had with adam at the newman media launch. He looked me in the eye and said, “if or when newman media comes after chanccomm, you will never see it coming.”

Lily: Yeah, that sounds more like it.

Billy: Which makes it even more peculiar that in tuscany, i overheard victor telling adam to devise a strategy. Victor wants us to know that he’s coming.

Lily: Well, maybe he wants to warn us so that we can prepare and make it a fair fight.

Billy: Why would he do that?

Lily: I don’t know. I mean, you’re the victor-whisperer.

Billy: I think you’re right. Maybe he wants to get inside my head, throw us off our game, hoping we make a mistake, and it leaves us vulnerable.

Lily: Or maybe he wants us to be so focused on an attack against the company as a way to distract us. Still fresh

Victoria: I have zero regrets — none. And you know what? I don’t think I could love you more if I tried. I am extremely happy that you’re my husband and my business partner. Have I made myself clear?

Ashland: Crystal.

Victoria: Good. And I don’t want to hear the names bobby defranco or camilla rhodes or jesse gaines ever again. That’s in the past, and all i care about is our future.

[ Sighs ] And all I want you to do is focus on fighting this cancer. That’s it.

Ashland: You will be amazed at how much I’ll handle for you.

Nick: I haven’t been to the palazzo since I was in boarding school.

Noah: That long ago? WoW.

[ All laugh ]

Sharon: Has it changed much?

Nick: Uh, you know, they’ve updated some things. The grounds are certainly a lot more lush. The trees have really grown.

Noah: Yeah, the house isn’t too shabby, either.

Sharon: Wow! How many rooms does it have?

Noah: I think you can get lost if you’re not paying attention. They got this beautiful outdoor terrace, which is heated. So, it’s perfect for fall nights. And the view? The view, it won’t quit. It was probably my favorite part of the whole place.

Sharon: Well, it sounds very elegant and romantic. I’m sure you had a nice time experiencing it all with phyllis.

Nick: Yeah, it was cool.

Sharon: I saw some drama online about victoria’s wedding dress?

Noah: You know it wouldn’t be a newman wedding without a little bit of drama, right?

Nick: Get this. Victoria wore a dress that was designed by sally spectra.

Sharon: What? You are kidding me.

Nick: Not kidding.

Sharon: That really surprises me.

Nick: It surprised us all.

Sharon: Well, anyway, I saw some beautiful photos of victoria. She looked radiant and very much in love.

Nick: She definitely did.

Sharon: So, tell me about you. What’s going on with your life? Is there some reason why you wouldn’t want to go back to london?

Noah: Well, what would give you that idea?

Sharon: You may be living an ocean away, but you’re still my son, and I know you. This sudden decision to leave london wasn’t really so sudden, was it?

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Nick: I mean, now that you mention it, you talked very little about yourself in tuscany.

Noah: I was just trying to be a good son who was concerned about his dad.

Nick: Yeah, I get it, but i don’t want you to feel like you can’t tell us what’s going on with you.

Sharon: Yeah, I’m so glad you came to visit. And I don’t want to overstep, but I hope you feel like you can talk to us still about whatever.

Noah: Well, lately I’ve been thinking about where I’m at in life, taking stock, and I just don’t want to get stuck in a rut in london. And it’s starting to feel like that might be happening. So…

Sharon: Really? Because the way you’ve always talked about it, it sounded so exciting and fulfilling. You talked about your friends and other artists and how much attention your work was getting.

Noah: Well, what can I say, mom? Every once in a while, it’s time for a change.

Mariah: It has been torture being away from you.

Tessa: Ugh! For me, too.

Mariah: I am so sorry that my idea of having a baby right away scared you. I know it must have seemed very, very impulsive. It was impulsive. And it must have seemed like i was trying to manufacture this perfect life so that I wouldn’t have to deal with what I was going through. But I realize that that is exactly what I need to be doing. Being abducted while pregnant and all of the things that I’ve been burying inside since this happened, it’S… it’s affected me in ways I’M… I’m just beginning to deal with.

Tessa: Hey, don’t be too hard on yourself. It takes a lot of time to process something so traumatic.

Mariah: Right. And I know that I have to manage these maternal feelings towards dominic, but I’m working on it. You know? I mean, I get through it. I went to see the baby earlier.

Tessa: You did?

Mariah: Yeah, that’s where — that’s where I was when you got back.

Tessa: How’d it go?

Mariah: It’s still challenging. But after I left, I felt better, and abby and I had a great conversation. And it made me realize that cutting all ties is not the way to go about this. It really just makes me miss that baby more. So, I’m going with our original plan. You know, I’m gonna be as much a part of the baby’s life as abby will let me. And if anything gets too overwhelming, I know you’ll be by my side.

Tessa: Always. Everything you are saying is so smart and strong. And I feel like I’m falling in love with you all over again.

Abby: Don’t you listen to all those stories grandma’s telling you about mommy being a cranky baby.

Ashley: [ Laughs ] Are you kidding? It was so worth it. Look at you.

Abby: Mm.

Ashley: I’m so proud.

Abby: Isn’t she sweet? Shh-shh! Oh, my baby boy.

[ Telephone ringing ] Excuse me. It’s christine. Christine, hi. What’s up? Oh, my god! Yeah, yeah, that’s great. No, I’m home. I’ll hang around here. Yeah, I’ll see you soon.

Ashley: What’d she say?

Abby: She has news about chance.

Mariah: I can honestly stay like this forever.

Tessa: Yeah. I mean, we’ll definitely need stamina, which will require, you know, sustenance.

Mariah: Oh, my god, tessa, you haven’t eaten. You must be starving! Why didn’t you say anything?

Tessa: I mean, I’m willing to try and live on love a little longer.

Mariah: You know we can have both, right?

Tessa: You know what I’m totally craving?

Mariah: Tell me.

Tessa: A big, messy, ropa vieja sandwich from society.

Mariah: Your wish is my command. I will call and pick it up.

Tessa: No. You know what? Let’s go out. Let’s celebrate this, us.

Abby: We’re gonna get some news about daddy. Can you believe it? I can hardly wait. Why do you think christine wants to tell me the news in person?

Ashley: I’m not sure. Could be a lot of reasons.

Abby: Yeah, like, maybe she knows when he is gonna be home, or maybe he sent us a message. And wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Ashley: Yeah. Honey, I-I just don’t want you to get your hopes up. Maybe she — maybe she’s gonna tell you that his assignment’s been extended. I don’t know.

Abby: I am only thinking positive thoughts.

Ashley: Okay. Me too. I-I just don’t want you to be disappointed if, you know, if the news isn’t what you want to hear, honey.

Abby: We’re only thinking positive thoughts. Right, dominic?

[ Chuckles ] Yeah.

[ Chuckles ]

Victoria: Okay, thank you. What are you looking at so intently over here? Social media. Really?

Ashland: Yeah, I’m on the lookout for any internet leaks about my criminal past in case gaines made good on his threat to expose me before victor could handle the situation.

Victoria: Oh.

Ashland: Darling, I know this is the last thing you want to think about, but I can’t let my guard down. Gaines could still be a wild card.

Victoria: My father told me that he had taken care of things.

Ashland: I know, and I trust victor, but he thought he handled the guy once before, only to have him turn up in tuscany with billy.

Victoria: I should have had my parents bring the kids. It would have saved us so much grief.

Ashland: Hey. You are not to blame for any bit of this, not for one second. Jesse gaines has a score to settle. He thinks that I’m responsible for the utter failure that his life has become.

Victoria: Well, he made a big mistake showing up to the wedding, thinking that he was going to make some big public scene, knowing that my father would be there.

Ashland: Well, I believe we’ve established that he doesn’t always think through the ramifications of his actions.

Victoria: Now that dad has teamed up with adam, look out. Well, they’ve assured us that they’ve neutralized the threat, and I believe that they’ve handled the situation.

Lily: I mean, I think victor would love to mess with us, mostly to hurt you. But I don’t think that’s his only goal — or adam’S. I don’t think it’s even his main objective. Maybe it’s just part of his strategy, you know, to misdirect us, because if we’re so focused on protecting ourselves against an attack, then we won’t look too closely at something else.

Billy: Like gaines disappearing off the face of the earth.

Lily: Do you think victor convinced gaines to leave ashland alone?

Billy: Hell, no. But I do think you’re on to something. There’s more going on. Everyone remembers the moment they heard,

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Billy: Gaines told me he hated ashland from way, way back, when he showed up as a young, enthusiastic kid.

Lily: What else did he tell you?

Billy: He told me everything, every detail from the beginning. Now, granted, this came from jesse’s sad point of view. He talked about how he showed up and made a name for himself at camilla rhodes’ company and also caught the eye of her attorney.

Lily: Gaines sr.

Billy: Yes. Ashland was showered with love and affection, almost made it feel like he was senior’s son, not jesse, who ended up feeling like a disappointment. Jesse showed up in tuscany with a lifetime of anger and bitterness at the man that he claims stole his father’s heart from him. He knew it was a risk, but yet he was that determined to expose ashland for the fraud that he really was.

Lily: Well, I guess he cared about his grudge more than anything else.

Billy: Jesse said he was gonna release that video if we didn’T. And I believed him, and yet there’s nothing out there.

Lily: Maybe he changed his mind.

Billy: I don’t think so. I think he was stopped from doing it.

Lily: Well, there’s a lot of ways that victor could have accomplished that, with his resources.

Billy: Victor and I both paid him a whole lot of money to keep him quiet. And, like you said, it’s always been more than money to him.

Lily: Wait. Are you suggesting that maybe victor made gaines disappear? I mean, that’s not really his style.

Billy: No, maybe not. But I definitely wouldn’t put it past adam.

Noah: So, tell me about faith. How are things going over at walnut grove? I know she had a hard time last spring on account of those mean girls. Things gotten any better or…

Sharon: I’m sure she’d be happy to tell you when you see her, but so far she’s having a stellar year.

Nick: I think what your mom’s trying to say is you can’t sidestep our questions forever, bud.

Noah: Am I really doing that, though?

Sharon: Yeah, every time we ask you a personal question, you deflect, and then you change the subject.

Nick: Just like you did over in italy. I mean, at least with me.

Sharon: You are incredibly charming in your way that you deflect, but… okay, I’ll give you some style points for that.

Nick: At some point, you’re gonna have to give us something. Yeah, you got to tell us why you felt this urge to take this break from this life you built over in the U.K.

Noah: Oh, wow! Would you look who’s here? You guys mind if I go say hi? Alright, cool.

Mariah: Noah! Oh, my god!

Noah: Surprise!

Mariah: Oh, my god! What — it’s so great to see you!

Noah: You too.

Tessa: Oh, my gosh, what are you doing here? You didn’t mention you were coming to town.

Noah: Yeah, it was a last-minute decision after the time we spent in tuscany. I got to tell you about your girlfriend.

Sharon: So…what did noah mean when he said he was worried about you in italy? What? You too? What is with all of this secrecy?

Nick: I wasn’t exactly an invited guest to the wedding.

Sharon: Why not?

Nick: I found some things out about ashland that were concerning. Dad and billy were running their own investigation, so I started doing some digging, too, and victoria found out about it. And she was mad as hell. I mean, she still is.

Sharon: Well, did you find anything real, or was it just innuendo and rumor?

Nick: Details aren’t important. What matters is that it didn’t change her mind about marrying ashland. But it did change things for me and victoria.

Sharon: She must know that you were coming from a place of love and concern.

Nick: I mean, I was. It’s why I went over there, to make amends and to show some support for my sister. But she made it very clear that she was simply tolerating my presence at the wedding. I mean, she felt really betrayed.

Sharon: That must have hurt.

Nick: It did. I mean, it still does. I just have to hope that she will someday forgive me. But you know what? I don’t want to talk about that. I’d really like to talk about our boy.

Sharon: Alright.

Nick: You’ve always had a great read on him. What’s your take with this?

Sharon: I think there’s more to noah’s visit from london than just needing a change of scenery.

Nick: Agreed.

Sharon: You know, you’ve had many conversations about what it’s like to live in other parts of the world, and every time we’ve talked about this, he said how fulfilling london is and how he feels like he’s come into his own. He talks about the energy and how much he loves the people there. But now? It seems like he’s ready to leave that all behind, and something must have happened to make him feel that way.

Abby: Say cheese for daddy! Hi!

[ Laughs ]

Ashley: Make sure you send me those, too.

Abby: Try and stop me. Can you believe it? Pretty soon, I might be able to share these pictures with chance in person.

[ Doorbell rings ]

[ Sighs ] Christine. Hi. Come in. I’m so excited to hear the news.

Christine: Oh, why don’t we go in and sit down? What can I du with less asthma?

Noah: Now, I really wish you could have seen tessa sing at victoria’s wedding. She has really, really grown as an artist. We were all blown away.

Tessa: I mean, being accompanied by the great leslie brooks might have helped.

Mariah: Actually, I did get to see tessa’s performance because somebody posted it online.

Noah: Yeah, I wish you could have been there to see it live.

Mariah: So, how long are you in town for?

Noah: Not really sure, but i doubt I’ll be going back to london anytime soon.

Mariah: Wait a second. I thought you loved it there. What went wrong?

Noah: [ Laughs ] Nothing went wrong. It was a career choice, going to the center of the hipster and artist universe, but it’s not really who I am. I never will be. Genoa city’s my home, and I’ve missed my family… and my friends.

Tessa: We’ve missed you, too.

Noah: Anyways…how you doing? Tessa and mom, they told me about what happened. So, I can’t imagine how terrifying it must have been, trapped in that small room, especially now, how difficult it must be with the baby around.

Mariah: [ Sighing ] Oh, yeah. Um…it’s been tough, you know, but I have a great support system.

Noah: You seem happy, solid.

Tessa: We are.

Noah: You know, that doesn’t just happen. It’s one thing to find love. It’s another to hold onto it. Anyway, I should probably get back to my folks, but it’s been great catching up.

Mariah: Yeah, of course. I’ll see you soon, okay?

Noah: Okay. There has got to be a story there.

Tessa: Yeah. Well, I’m just glad that the three of us are in a good place now and that we’ve been able to let go of the past and move on.

Sharon: Mariah seems to be doing better.

Noah: Yeah, she seems to be okay at the moment.

Sharon: I’m glad.

Nick: So, your mother and i have been talking, and I filled her in on what went down with victoria in tuscany.

Noah: Yeah, I tried to play mediator.

Sharon: How’d that go?

Noah: Not too well, honestly. Yeah, it was pretty tense. I kind of hated it. And now that we’re back, though, is there anything I could do to help break the impasse?

Nick: Don’t worry about it. I got it covered.

Noah: Well, the offer stands if you need the help.

Nick: Alright. Right now let’s talk about you and your plans and if there’s anything your mom and I can do to help.

Noah: I’ll figure it out, unless, of course, you guys don’t want me to stay or something like that. I can just skip town.

Sharon: Oh! You’re staying.

Noah: [ Laughs ]

Nick: Eh…

Noah: Eh.

[ Laughs ]

Christine: So, I, um, I don’t know how to say this except to just be straightforward and honest. There are reports coming in from the city where chance has been working undercover.

Abby: Where is he?

Christine: I can’t say, only that he was recently transferred for the final portion of his assignment. And things just progressed quickly, and then the location of his mission was hit by a bomb in the middle of the night. The building was leveled. The state department has put out a statement fearing that there are no survivors.

Ashley: This still sounds a little vague. Do you have any more information?

Christine: I don’T. I just wanted to tell you everything I learned right away.

Abby: Um…that’s got to be a mistake. Feeling stressed in your skin?

Billy: If jesse had gone through with what he said he was gonna do, it would have been more than just public embarrassment for ashland. It would have affected the merger between locke and newman. And it also would have affected newman media.

Lily: Meaning victor and adam.

Billy: I was so focused making sure that victoria knew the truth, I lost sight of the fact of the hit that ashland would take to his bottom line if this came out.

Lily: So, even though it wasn’t about the money for gaines, it was for them.

Billy: And you know adam, the lengths he’ll go to prove himself to his father. He’ll do the dirty work. I think you’re right. Maybe that’s why victor came after us with so much bluster. He wanted to distract us from looking into how gaines disappeared and how far adam will go to do what ashland

needed him to do but, more importantly, what his father

wants him to do.

Lily: I mean…if adam did something to hurt gaines to keep him quiet…

Billy: If we get justice for gaines, and we stop newman media in their tracks, we become the threat. We become the ones to crush the competition.

Ashland: You sound confident.

Victoria: Because I am.

Ashland: Well, I sincerely hope that victor can stop gaines from putting his plan into motion. I-I want to believe that.

Victoria: And you can! But enough about all that. You know what I want to do? I want to discuss our honeymoon.

Ashland: Seriously? We just got back to a mountain of work.

Victoria: I know! So, we’ll handle all that, and then we’ll go away.

Ashland: You know, I love the way that you are forcing me to keep my priorities straight. Pick the most romantic spot on the planet, and I’ll make it happen.

Victoria: Actually, I’ve handled it already. You are never in a million years gonna guess what my honeymoon surprise is for you.

Ashland: Hmm.

[ Both laugh ]

Tessa: Mm.

Mariah: So, how did you like your sandwich?

Tessa: Oh, I did not realize how hungry I was!

[ Both laugh ]

Mariah: Um…can I ask you a favor?

Tessa: Yeah, sure. What is it?

Mariah: That teddy bear that you got me from tuscany? Do you mind if I give it to dominic?

Tessa: You know, I had a feeling you were gonna ask that, and that’s part of the reason i got him.

Mariah: Should we go do that now?

Tessa: Well, I thought you saw the baby today and said it wasn’t very easy for you.

Mariah: Well, I mean, it wasn’t, but it was a lot better than it has been. Look. I was being honest with you before, and I’m being honest with you now. This isn’t coming from anywhere obsessive. I just think that the baby would really like that teddy bear. And he was sleeping most of the time that I saw him earlier. So, it wasn’t much of a visit.

Tessa: Well, then, what are we waiting for?

Mariah: Yeah?

Tessa: Yeah.

Mariah: Okay.

Christine: I’ve called my other contacts trying to get verification.

Ashley: So, you haven’t gotten it yet.

Christine: No.

Ashley: When are you gonna hear something?

Christine: I…don’t know. And even if the reports of the explosion are accurate, that doesn’t mean that chance was in the building at the time of the attack.

Abby: He wasn’T. He couldn’t have been. He wasn’T. He just… I would know. I would feel it. I would. It’s not possible.

Next week on

“the young and the restless”…

Michael: I’d like you to testify against your grandfather.

Ashland: Did I hear correctly? Are you planning to go after chanccomm?

Billy: If you want the opportunity to get justice for this gaines guy and rid us all of adam, this is your opportunity.

Christine: So, I just got off the phone with one of my contacts at the bureau. He had some intel on the bombing.

Devon: Look at you, boss lady. I like the way you handled that very much.

Abby: Oh, yeah, for now. But if she’s looking for other jobs, then putting her trout dish on the menu isn’t gonna keep her for long.

Devon: I know you’ve gone through a lot of chefs since Lola left.

Abby: Yes, big shoes to fill. Lola was like a superhero. I miss her so much, not just as a chef, but she was a good friend. I thought we were gonna be in this together.

[ Sighs ]

Devon: You okay?

Abby: Yeah, it’s just, you know, situations like this make you realize that there are no guarantees in life…about anything.

Adam: Chloe, you, um, you shouldn’t let your imagination get the best of you.

Sally: But if you must know —

Chloe: I must.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sally: I’m just kidding. No, our plane landed a couple hours ago, and we went our separate ways. The fact that we ran into each other on the way here was just pure coincidence.

Adam: Uh-huh. Now, do you buy that story?

Chloe: Would you?

Adam: Look. Nothing happened in Tuscany that you need to concern yourself with. I mean, other than the fact that Sally had a major success with Victoria’s dress. That’s all we were talking about when you were eavesdropping.

Lily: Hey. You’re awake already? What’s wrong? You didn’t sleep well?

Billy: [ Sighs ] I didn’t sleep at all. After you fell asleep, I went for a walk. And I ran into Victor.

Lily: Oh, God, what happened?

Billy: Let’s just say playtime is over. Time to man the battle stations. The old man has openly declared war on me and ChanceCom.

Adam: Nothing like waking up under the beautiful Tuscan sky. Hope you slept well.

Sally: Well, I got a lot more rest than I would’ve if we were to have spent the night together.

Double espressos, please? Yeah, can’t wait to see what you have planned next for newman media.

Sally: Oh, well, I can’t wait to show you and the rest of the world because it’s just the beginning.

Chloe: [ Clears throat ] Well, this is a nice surprise.

Adam: W-what is?

Chloe: Seeing you two here together, even though I know your plane landed just hours agO. You know, I can’t recall the last time I saw you two with such big smiles on your faces.

Adam: Hmm?

Sally: We’re very happy.

Chloe: Yeah, I understand that. Um…but I thought that you were going to keep this professional. So, did something happen in tuscany that you want to fill me in about?

Adam: Hmm…

[ Lock buzzes ]

Tessa: Buongiorno! Ah, I am back, finally. I am just so excited to see you. Mariah?

Mariah: Anyway, I was just in the neighborhood, so I thought i would drop this off. Is abby home?

Louise: No, she’s at society.

Mariah: Oh. Um… okay. Well, I came to check in on dominic. I know he had a cold.

Louise: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: Is there…a-a problem, because abby said that I was welcome anytime.

Louise: I just got him to sleep. It was difficult.

Mariah: I’m sure. The little dude really likes to fight his naps, especially when he’s overtired. It can feel like a triumph when he finally closes his eyes. So…

Louise: You only know the half of it.

Mariah: How about this? Why don’t you, um, why don’t you take a little bit of a breather, and I can watch over him for a minute?

Louise: Alright, but just for a few minutes.

Mariah: Okay.

Louise: Okay.

Mariah: Here you go. Hi! Hi, bowie. Hi. I’m back…finally.

[ Chuckles ] I’m so happy to see you.

Abby: You want to quit? Pamela, I thought you loved it here. I mean, you love the staff. The kitchen is state-of-the-art. Why would you want to leave?

Pamela: There is a new place about to open in the warehouse district. They made me an offer.

Abby: Okay, well, that’s — it’s pretty risky, don’t you think? I mean, you could start cooking there, and a few months from now they run out of cash? But society is here to stay. We have a large clientele, and they love your cooking. If this is about money, I-I can give you a raise. You deserve it.

Pamela: Thanks, but it’s not just about my salary. I want to create my own menu.

Abby: Look. I get that. But our customers, they love lola’s menu, and if we change it, I mean, aren’t they gonna go elsewhere?

[ Sighs ] Hey, um, you’re right. Right, you should have a chance to put an imprint on the food that you serve. So, um, how about we schedule a time to get together in the kitchen, and you can create a few dishes that you think should be on the menu, and we can take it from there? How does that sound?

Pamela: Thank you, abby. You’re the best.

Devon: When’s the last time you heard from chance?

Abby: It was that obvious i was thinking about him?

Devon: Talk to me. Tell me what’s going on.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Alice loves the scent of gain so much,

Mariah: Oh, come here, guy. Oh, come here. Yes, yes, yes. Okay, there you go. You’re calm now. We’re getting calm. What’s that? How am i doing? Why, thank you for asking. That’s very polite. I’m kind of a mess. I’m trying hard to work through my issues. I am. You know, but I have this connection to you, and I don’t know how to let it go. I’ll just have to figure out a way to…to move forward through all of this. But I’m gonna get where I need to be, okay? Don’t you worry about that. Oh, man! It’s just hard. It’s so hard… not just on me. It’s been hard on everyone around me… especially tessa. Can I tell you a secret? When tessa was going to italy, I got really scared. I was worried that we weren’t on the same page about our future. And I’ll let you in on another little secret. I’m still scared.

Mariah’s voice: It’s me. You know how this works. Leave a message.

Tessa: Um, hey. Hey, I just got back. Don’t worry. I wasn’t expecting any welcome-home party or anything, you know? Maybe a few streamers and some balloons, definitely a cake, but something must have come up. So, um, I’m super-wiped from the trip. So, I’m not going anywhere. I’ll see you soon. Bye.

Abby: Yeah, it’s been hard not having chance around the past several months. I’m not hearing from him for weeks at a time, months. I thought he’d be home by the time dominic was born, and… I mean, he hasn’t even gotten to hold his own son in his arms. I mean, his own son.

Devon: You know that it’s okay to feel sad and to feel lonely and to feel frustrated, anything you’re feeling.

Abby: You know, I’ve never admitted this to anyone, but there are nights when I wake up, and I’ve just been crying in my sleep, calling out chance’s name. During the day, I can just keep myself busy. I can push the fear out. But at night… I don’t know how much more of this I can stand.

Chloe: No, I just — I just overheard. And actually there have been some new developments about the dress.

Adam: Well, I’ll leave you two to discuss them. I have back-to-back meetings at the grand phoenix. So, have fun.

Sally: Good developments?

Chloe: Actually, terrible.

Sally: What? I’ve seen nothing but positive press about the gown.

Chloe: Oh, I’m not talking about the dress itself. The whole world loved the dress.

Sally: Okay. So, then, what could possibly be the problem?

Chloe: There has been some personal fallout from our plan. And I think you should be prepared for what’s coming. I order my groceries online now.

Adam: Hey, chelsea. Uh, yeah, I just got back from tuscany. I was a little surprised to get invited to the wedding, but I’m actually glad I went. It was stunning. It was beautiful and majestic. Yeah, victoria’s gown was a hit. It was a bit of a coup for newman media, but sally — sally hit it big. Oh, um, you’re calling to talk about the e-mail from connor’s teacher? Well, I handled that already. I told him that I think he should be accelerated to the next course of math. Um, yes, I handled it without talking to you. I had to. I tried to get a hold of you, but I know you’re busy with your mom. They needed an answer. I mean, I’m his father. I can make those decisions. Do you not agree he should be accelerated to the next course? Okay, that’s what I thought. I mean, we’re generally on the same page about his education. So… then what’s the problem?

Mariah: Alright, bowie. I have definitely overstayed my welcome. That was a good talk. Thank you for listening. It kind of felt like old times. I’ll see you soon, okay? I promise.

[ Sighs, chuckles ] Okay! You have convinced me. I will stay for a little bit longer.

Abby: I always admired chance’s need to protect and help people. That’s who he is. It’s in his blood. I mean, he wants to help people all over the world. And when we got married, I guess I just — I never expected him to be called away by the feds. That’s why he joined the gcpd. He wanted to settle down, but we never got to settle down. He was gone before I knew it.

Devon: Yeah, I know. And you never expected for him to be gone for this long.

Abby: I thought maybe a couple weeks, a month. I never prepared myself for what it would feel like for him to be gone for this long, for an extended period of time in a dangerous situation. And it was difficult before dominic was born, but I guess it’s only inevitable that I’d be more afraid now.

Devon: Well, yeah, of course. You have a baby, you know? Having a baby heightens everything in life.

Abby: Well, I — I am done pouring my heart out because this is the part where you give me a pep talk, and you tell me that everything’s gonna be alright.

Devon: Oh, you don’t need me to tell you that, abby. You already know everything’s gonna be alright. You have to. You know, sure, chance has been gone longer than everybody expected, but you know that he’s doing everything in his power to come home to you and to his son as soon as he can.

Abby: Yeah.

Devon: Right?

Abby: You’re right. It’s just…

Devon: What? You wishing he never had took the case in the first place?

Abby: You nailed it, yeah.

Devon: Yeah, I know. I know. And you have every right to feel frustrated about this situation, because nobody could have predicted this, that he’d be gone for this long, that mariah would get kidnapped by stitch. What I do know, though, and what you should know is that you can handle anything that life throws at you because that’s what you’ve been doing this whole time that chance has been gone. You’ve been handling it. And you have to just keep doing it. You really don’t have a choice because you have a little boy now that needs you to stay strong. And you have all your family, and you have all your friends. And you have people like me. So, stop forgetting that.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Itchy?

Adam: I know! I know it’s not your fault that you are not here. I’m not blaming you. Okay? Look. My meeting is here. I got to go. So, let’s discuss this later.

Devon: Hey, hey. I hope you know you didn’t have to hang up for me.

Adam: No, I’m glad for the interruption. I was talking to chelsea, and it wasn’t going well — about connor.

Devon: Uh-oh. Just having a disagreement?

Adam: No, actually, we were agreeing, which is why it’s so frustrating. I think she was just picking a fight because she feels pushed aside as a parent while she’s away.

Devon: Well, that’s understandable, right?

Adam: Yeah, I just wish she wasn’t taking it out on me. I’m just trying to do what’s best for my son. There’s just nothing I wouldn’t do for my kid.

Devon: Yeah, no, I see that. I’ve actually been very impressed by the way you stepped up for him.

Adam: Well, thank you.

Devon: A father being in a child’s life is half the battle. And there’s a lot of parents that just don’t understand that. So, it’s refreshing. But, um, you’re gonna need to fill me in on the latest promotions because I’m stepping up for nick since he’s extending his trip in europe.

Adam: Yeah, yeah, good for him.

Devon: He was a little reluctant to talk to you and victor. Is there a reason for that?

Adam: We just had a little family disagreement in italy.

Devon: That’s not gonna make work between newman media and new hope difficult, is it?

Adam: Well, let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. But, um, why don’t we get down to business?

Devon: Okay.

Mariah: “And silas the dragon found that he wasn’t so silly after all. He was strong and brave, and the whole town knew it. The end.” I have to say I’m not too sure about this one because he did seem like an incredibly silly dragon, and they just tacked a moral on at the end, but I’m glad you liked it.

Abby: Well, this is a nice surprise.

Mariah: Hi! I didn’t hear you come in.

Abby: Oh, I’m sure you were all wrapped up in silas’ journey.

[ Laughs ]

Mariah: Yes, I was, completely. I hope you don’t mind me just dropping by, but I was just checking on dominic, seeing how he’s recovering from the cold.

Abby: Well, no, you’re welcome here anytime.

Mariah: Thank you.

Abby: I’m surprised to see you. I mean, when you texted me and told me that you weren’t going to italy for the wedding, i thought that you’d stop by sooner, but it’s been days.

Mariah: Well, there were a lot of reasons for me not going to italy, but one of them was i wanted to be here in case dominic got sicker, and you needed my help. But then I didn’t want to overstep. So, I figured it would just be best to keep my distance.

Abby: I get it, yeah. Look. I don’t want there to be any weirdness between us. I mean, no awkwardness. You can come over here anytime.

Mariah: Of course, yeah. But speaking of awkward, I have breast milk for you!

[ Both laugh ] Yeah, I-I know that you’re probably running low, and you were talking about weaning dominic before, but I figured you could just use some, anyway.

Abby: Thank you. Yeah, I will definitely put it to good use, but well, I talked to the pediatrician, and she’s comfortable with switching to formula. So, I think after this… look. I-I know that that must be difficult for you to hear, and i promise you I am not shutting you out. I think this is a good time to transition to formula. So, I hope that’s not a problem.

Chloe: Lauren tore me to shreds. She was not happy that her designer’s dress got tossed aside for yours.

Sally: [ Sighs ] I’m so sorry.

Chloe: Look. I am just afraid that she is going to unload on you. So, I just want you to be prepared.

Sally: Yeah. I mean, I knew there was a possibility that lauren would be mad at me. I just feel terrible that you got caught in the crossfire.

Chloe: Oh, listen. It’s fine, honestly. I probably deserve it. In hindsight, I could have given her a heads-up out of courtesy.

Sally: Yeah, right. But if lauren knew, she would have alerted victoria, and it would have ruined our whole scheme.

Chloe: Don’t — don’t say scheme. No, that makes me feel so much worse. We had a plan, and our plan worked out better than we hoped. And now I just have to deal with the less-pleasant consequences of my actions, which is fine. I-I have — I have dealt with it before. I know the drill. It’s really no biggie.

Sally: You’re not being honest.

Chloe: I beg your pardon?

Sally: This is a big deal. Lauren is a part of your family, and I feel terrible. I have to find a way to fix it. I will just tell her that I did all of this behind your back, and you had no idea what I was up to.

Chloe: It’s too late. I already confessed that I knew about everything. So, um, I appreciate the offer.

Sally: Well, I mean, if there’s anything at all that i can do, I will do it.

Lauren: Oh, I think you’ve done more than enough already. Feeling stressed in your skin?

“The young and the restless”

will continuE.

Sally: You’re mad. I get that.

Lauren: You proved me wrong. When you schemed to get summer out of the country…

[Sighs] I had to fire you. And I actually thought that you would respect me, even after that. But you proved me wrong even then! You are just conniving and self-serving.

Sally: I had to rebuild my image and my reputation.

Lauren: Oh, my god. You have a very funny way of showing that. Going to italy? Stealing my designer’s dress and replacing it with yours right before the ceremony? Employing the same tactics that tarnished your reputation in the very beginning?

Sally: I think you have some facts wrong. I did not steal your designer’s dress. I moved it. And victoria had the chance to decide which dress she wanted to wear.

Lauren: And this is your defense?

Sally: Okay, look. I-I really don’t expect you to understand.

Lauren: Yeah? You know what the problem is? I actually do understand. You love to give these big speeches, proving yourself to everyone in your life. But the truth of the matter is, you’re just interested in your own success. You’re going to alienate everyone, everyone here, and it’s going to happen, sooner rather than later. This is a much smaller town than los angeles. And when you realize the best thing that you could do is leave, I won’t shed a tear.

Sally: Okay. Well, I guess nothing I say will change how you feel right now. So, I can just hope that one day you will see me in a different light.

Chloe: Are you done with me, too? Or do I still have a chance to repair things between us?

Devon: Alright, man. Well, this all looks good. So, I will — I’ll tell nick about our progress, and we’ll take it from there.

Adam: Great.

Devon: Yeah.

Adam: Well, thank you for taking the time, devon.

Devon: Absolutely.

Adam: I, um, I hadn’t realized how much I miss running into you, when we were neighbors.

Devon: Well, the building isn’t the same without you. I’ll tell you that.

[ Both chuckle ]

Adam: Well, I’d walk out with you, but I have another meeting in a half-hour.

Devon: That’s fine. Not a problem. That’s plenty of time for you to call chelsea back and smooth things over.

Adam: What? You want me to call her back, so she can keep yelling at me?

Devon: No, no. I want you to make things right so that feelings don’t fester, and then it’s ten times worse the next time you talk to her.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Devon: You know?

Adam: You’re right. Of course. I just don’t know why I’m the one that has to extend an olive branch.

Devon: Well, I mean, if you think about it, man, you’re the one that gets to go home to your son every day. She’s hundreds of miles away, missing him and feeling left out. So, you know, take the high road because you can afford to be generous. See ya.

Adam: See ya.

Mariah: I loved being able to provide milk for dominic. It made me feel like I had a unique role in his life. And it’s hard to hear that, you know, it’s no longer needed. But I understand.

Abby: You do?

Mariah: Before all this, I — I used to think that I was incredibly smart and savvy, always one step ahead. But…I did not realize how intense this would be. And I need to get back to myself. You know? That’s one of the other reasons why I didn’t go to italy. I didn’t want to be out there, celebrating with everybody and putting on a smile when I just wasn’t in the mood.

Abby: And tessa was okay with you not going to the wedding?

Mariah: Well, she wasn’t thrilled that I opted out. But I needed time for myself. I needed a routine and structure and to do some deep, deep reflection.

Abby: And did you come up with any big conclusions?

Mariah: I did.

The best kept skincare secret?

[ Doorbell rings ]

Abby: Hold that thought one second.

Devon: Hey.

Abby: Hi!

Devon: I just wanted to come and see if you’re feeling any better because I felt bad I had to run off to that meeting.

Abby: Well, thank you. That’s very sweet. I am. I was. I hope I still am. Come on in. Mariah’s here.

Devon: Oh, really? Hey.

Mariah: Hi!

Devon: It’s good to see you. Am I interrupting anything, or…

Mariah: No, no, not at all. In fact, you should all be here for this.

Devon: Okay.

Mariah: So, I just wanted to say that I love you both. And you’ve been incredible through this whole ordeal. You know, we all have a bond bringing dominic into this world, and it’s one that I’m gonna cherish forever. I-I know that you’ve been worried about me lately. And I’ve been struggling with my role in dominic’s life. I’M…I’m having a hard time letting go. I’ll admit that. It’s just been hard, you know, sorting through all of this jumble of emotions, especially for somebody who doesn’t like dealing with messy emotions. But I’m working on it. And I just hope that you both believe me when I say that I am doing much, much better now.

Abby: Well, I am happy and relieved that you’re feeling better.

Devon: Yeah, so am I. You seem a lot more happy. You seem a lot more calm.

Abby: There was a wall between us that I never wanted. And when I walked in and saw you reading to dominic, I was thrilled, because I want you to have an important role in his life, a big role, but only when you’re ready for it.

Mariah: I’m ready. I am. And I want us to take that step together.

Devon: Absolutely. We’re still the baby chancellor crew, right? Or you know what? We should probably call ourselves the baby dominic crew now.

Abby: Ah, I love the sound of that.

Devon: Yeah?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Devon: Think so.

Adam: [ Exhales ] Hey, chelsea. Look. I know you were not planning to hear from me again so soon, but I needed to tell you that I was wrong earlier. And I should not have made that decision without you. And from now on, when situations like that come up, I will not make them without talking to you. I know. I mean, if we’re gonna co-parent like this, we need to be able to talk to each other no matter where we are. So, um, how’s your mom doing? Okay. Do you have any idea when you’re gonna be able to leave her on her own and come back to genoa city? Okay, well, if you want to come back, I don’t understand the hesitation, chelsea. Okay, that’s not what I’m saying, but, but —

Sally: Hey. Are you alright?

Adam: The mother of my son just hung up on me. But besides that, I am fine.

Sally: Are you sure? Because you seem upset.

Adam: I said that I was fine. So, you can take my word for it. Now, please, tell me. What do you want? We’re eating and drinking foods and beverages

Lauren: Look. Um, I think I was a little harsh on you yesterday. It’s just that I was so angry.

Chloe: You had every right to be. I am so sorry.

Lauren: And I accept your apology. What you did was misguided. It was not vicious and conniving. You are on a completely different level from sally.

Chloe: Well, you made it pretty clear that you have no plans to forgive her.

Lauren: I say this out of love. Cut her loose. Do not continue to work with her. She will betray you, too, and you will end up in the exact same position I am — stabbed in the back.

Adam: Sally, look. I’m sorry. Alright? I’m sorry. I’m dealing with a lot today, with work and with chelsea. Will you please sit down? Please? Tell me why you came by.

Sally: [ Sighs ] I had a run-in with lauren. She’s furious that victoria wore my dress instead of the one from fenmore’S.

Adam: Well, I’m sorry you had to go through that.

Sally: I just figured you should know. And I also — I just kind of wanted a friendly ear.

Adam: Well, don’t worry about it. You don’t work for lauren. And victoria made her own decision about the dress.

Sally: But it still didn’t feel good to be told off by someone whose opinion matters to me.

Adam: Trust me. I have been there and done that more times than I can count. Don’t beat yourself up about it. It’s not like you committed some great crime against lauren. You’re in a competitive business, okay? You won this round. She may win the next. I mean, does that help put it in perspective?

Sally: Yeah. It does. I wish I could reciprocate and, you know, do something to make you feel better.

Adam: A productive, profitable day would make me feel better. Or at least it would distract me. I’m gonna walk into this restaurant and go to my meeting. I’ll see you later.

Sally: Yeah. See you around.

Devon: It seems like mariah is really finding her footing.

Abby: Yeah. She’s on a better, healthier path.

Devon: Yeah. Makes me happy to see that she put you in a better mood.

Abby: Well, like you said, my friends and family will always be there for me, and that goes both ways. I woke up this morning feeling blue, and then I saw you and mariah, and it turned my whole day around.

Devon: Yeah? That’s all it took? Are you sure you’re okay?

Abby: Yeah, yeah. So, you don’t have to stick around here and be my cheerleader anymore.

Devon: Oh, I don’t mind doing that, but I feel like you’re kicking me out. Is that what’s happening?

Abby: I’m never kicking you out, but I’m sure you have a hundred things to be doing.

Devon: Ah, not quite a hundred, but…

Abby: See? Look. I would love nothing more than for you to hang out with me and dominic all afternoon, but that’s not necessary. I’m okay.

Devon: Well, I am still gonna come back and check up on you. You can count on that. You can count on me. Okay?

Abby: Devon?

Devon: Yeah?

Abby: Thank you.

Devon: Of course. I’ll see you.

[ Door opens, closes ]

Abby: Chance, where are you? When are you coming home?

[ Sighs ]

Tessa’s voice: Something from tuscany to give you a taste of the beauty of the land and the romance of the wedding. There was so much love in the air, but there was a little something missing for me because you weren’t there to share it. This gift is my way of making up for that.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ]

Tessa’s voice: Okay, I bought it at the airport on the way out of town. I didn’t have time to do much shopping, but I thought of you constantly, and I missed you so much. I love you. Tessa.

Tessa: Hi!

Mariah: Hi. And welcome home.

Tessa: Oh, thank you. Oh, did you get your present?

Mariah: I did. It was very, very thoughtful.

[ Both laugh ]

Tessa: It was either that or some playing cards with the italian flag on it.

Mariah: Well, you made the right choice. I’m sorry I wasn’t here when you got home. Thought your flight got in later.

Tessa: Oh, it’s okay. It landed early. Oh, I missed you so much.

Mariah: I missed you, too.

Tessa: We’ve got a lot to talk about.

Mariah: Yes, we do. I’ve been doing a lot of thinking, and I’ve made some important decisions.

Tessa: Like what?

Mariah: Later, okay? We’ll talk later. For now, sleep.

Tessa: Okay. I’m pretty tired.

Mariah: Yes. Yes, you are.
