Chloe: Well, would you please say something? I can’t help if I don’t know what’s going on.

Sally: Okay, fine. Um, Nick has been avoiding me.

Chloe: Okay. Um, that might turn out to be a good thing.

Sally: How in the world is nick avoiding me a good thing?

Chloe: Just let him cool down. You know, give him some time to miss you. The two of you can’t talk through things rationally when he’s all worked up.

Sally: Yeah, but this doesn’t feel like a break or a cooling down period. This feels like the end.

Chloe: No, that’s just because you’re scared, so you’re going to the worst case scenario.

Sally: You weren’t there, Chloe. You didn’t see the look in his eyes or hear the tone in his voice. For Nick, there’s no way forward for us.

Chloe: Yeah, well, I– I refuse to believe that. It– don’t just freak out over something that hasn’t even happened yet.

Sally: Well, I’d say it kind of has happened

**************

Victor: Then, you agree. They’re trying to take me down.

Adam: No, no, no, I– I did not say that. But do I think that she wants her title back? Of course, she wants her title back. And Nate will go along with anything that she says, but why do you think that they’re actively pursuing that?

Victor: I don’t know. I overheard some whisperings, you know. She said that she was very upset about having been demoted by me. And Nate, instead of calming her down, he encouraged her. I’m convinced they’re trying to prove that I am, you know, I’ve lost my marbles. I’m incapacitated.

Adam: Well you– we all make little mistakes, call people by the wrong name, stuff like that.

Victor: Well, what do you think about that?

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: I– I– I don’t want to say anything that will um, demean Victoria.

Victor: No, no, tell me honestly. What do you think?

Adam: Victoria was furious when you announced that you were gonna come back.

Victor: Yeah.

Adam: So yeah, she’s probably trying to undermine you. She’s probably even planning a coup.

Tucker: I suppose you think you’ve talked me into backing down.

Mamie: Well, a smart guy like you knows when resistance is futile.

Tucker: [Chuckles] I should just bow out gracefully?

Mamie: You could always just trust me.

Tucker: Yeah. I’m not sure how much I trust this plan with nate. Seems to me it’s just…buying us more trouble than we need.

Mamie: Oh, I thought you were a “trust the universe” kind of person.

Tucker: You’re not the universe.

Mamie: Maybe a little bit of it? As are you.

Tucker: Well, I can at least take comfort in one thing.

Mamie: Oh?

Tucker: It’s a long shot if you think you can lure Nate away from Newman enterprises.

*******************

Victor: Hi, sweetheart.

Nikki: Listen, um… I just saw Nate outside, and he seems suspicious that you’re acting normal.

Victor: Oh, yeah?

Nikki: You’re doing this on purpose, aren’t you?

Victor: Doing what on purpose?

Nikki: You know what I mean– vacillating between lucidity and confusion. This is some kind of plot you have concocted, isn’t it? Victor, for god’s sake, will you please tell me the truth? I need to know that you’re not losing your mind.

Victor: Baby, I’m not losing my mind, okay?

Nikki: So then you are tricking everyone.

Victor: Let me put it this way… things are beginning to coalesce around me, so…

Nikki: I don’t even know what that means.

Victor: Well, that means that I’m beginning to discover certain patterns amongst my children… and it’s somewhat upsetting.

Danny: Great. Thank you.

Phyllis: Hey. You’re not swarming with fans.

[ Danny laughing ] Can I join you? I figure I should shoot my shot while I can.

Danny: I’m not really sure how to answer that one.

Phyllis: Well, I’ll tell you how to answer it. “Sure, Phyllis. I would love for you to join me.”

Danny: Okay. Only because you seem to be in such a good mood.

Phyllis: Oh. I am in an extraordinary mood.

Danny: Even better.

Phyllis: I haven’t felt this upbeat in a really long time.

Danny: Okay. I’m happy to hear it. Uh, what, uh, brought this on?

Phyllis: Oh, gosh. Well, let’s just say that I scraped the last bits of nasty connection off my shoe.

Danny: Do I wanna know who or what that might be?

Phyllis: [ Laughing ] No, you don’t need to know. You don’t need to know. All you need to know is I feel so great. I finally feel optimistic about my future. I haven’t felt that way in a really long time. As long as I can remember

************************

Daniel: So, what do you think?

Lily: Um, I think it’s an apartment downstairs from mine and–

Daniel: And– and I happen to know the owner of the building, one mr. Devon winters.

Lily: Oh, yeah, Devon. He’s the worst.

Daniel: [ Laughing ] Well, you know, he let me know that one of his tenants was gonna be moving out and selling this place and, uh, he thought I might be interested.

Lily: Interested in– in buying it?

Daniel: Mm-hmm.

Lily: An apartment in my building? [ Chuckling ] Well, that’s a little intrusive, don’t you think?

Daniel: Really?

Lily: Yeah. I mean, how would I get away from you? Just day after day and night after night, it would be nothing but this…

Daniel: Can I take that as a yes?

Lily: Please take it as a yes.

Daniel: Oh, I was hoping that you’d like the idea.

Lily: Are you kidding? I love it. I mean, I love this place for you. It’s– it’s perfect. I say go for it.

Phyllis: No pithy remark? No snarky comment?

Tucker: What would you like me to say?

Phyllis: Oh, what would I like you to say? I’d like you to say, “Phyllis, you’re a genius. Phyllis, you’ve got me. I surrender. You’re correct.”

[ Phyllis chuckling ]

Tucker: You are entertaining.

[ Phyllis laughing ]

Phyllis: I am. I just uncovered your connection to Mamie Johnson and all you are saying to me is I’m entertaining.

Tucker: Whatever connection I have to Mamie Johnson is personal and private.

Phyllis: So, there’s a connection.

Tucker: It’s none of your business, Phyllis.

Phyllis: Mm, it kind of is, you know? I uncovered that you have some super-secret connection that you didn’t want anyone to know about. I mean, consider me the fly in your ointment.

[ Tucker chuckling ]

Tucker: God, your self-importance is just astounding. As is your ability to conjure something out of nothing.

Phyllis: You think it’s nothing? Oh, okay. I don’t know if Jill and Devon and lily will think it’s nothing. I’m sure they’ll wonder what your motives are for connecting up with Mamie.

Tucker: What is it you think you’ve learned?

*”************

Kyle: Do you really consider Tucker to be that much of a threat against us?

Billy: Yes, of course, tucker’s a threat. He’s ruthless. He’s hurt and he’s angry. He’s got time, money, and the inclination to cause real damage to our family and to our company.

Jack: Selling McCall unlimited to Newman enterprises more than covers his debt. He’s got a serious war chest and he’s itching to use it.

Billy: And he loves to amuse himself. He finds himself entertaining. I mean, putting a listening device in a bonsai tree? Lame.

Jack: Besides, this is just another smoke screen. Just like hacking into Jabot’s finances to set up Billy. He thinks if we’re busy putting out fires, we will be distracted enough that we won’t see what he’s really up to.

Kyle: Yeah, I see the predicament.

Phyllis: Okay. Look at this! Having dinner like a normal family. So normal.

Daniel: Just wanted to celebrate your first day at your new job.

Phyllis: Oh, goodness! Great. Ha! You’re paying, right? Because, you know, I’m not making the kind of money I’m used to.

Daniel: I know, I know, but you know, this is all about getting a clean start. Emphasis on the word “clean,” remember?

Phyllis: Yes. Exactly. And I will not let you down.

Daniel: No.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Daniel: That’s all either of us could ask for.

Phyllis: Good

**************

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, yeah. My immediate superior, she is a embryo, a zygote actually.

Daniel: Kayla is 29 and she has a masters in computer science.

Phyllis: Ooh! Oh wow. A masters. Oh, my goodness. Well, I have a lot to learn from her, don’t I?

Daniel: Mom?

Phyllis: My goodness! She’s a lovely, lovely, young, so very young lady.

Daniel: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: Yeah. Listen, I– I’m happy to be there. I’m just having fun with you, okay? And I was very productive today, don’t you think?

Daniel: I was told you were on your best behavior.

Phyllis: Yes. And– and like I said, I will not let you down.

Daniel: You know, the, uh, trick is going to be to see if you can continue that team spirit for longer than a day.

Phyllis: Right. Yes. I– I– I do have team spirit. I– I can and I will.

Daniel: Lucy would like to know if you could stop and pick up some of those brownies from crimson lights and bring them back on the plane to Lisbon.

Heather: Would she? Uh, it’s going to be morning when I land there?

Daniel: Well, then I guess it’s brownies for breakfast. I’ll tell her you said yes.

Heather: Okay. So, I guess I’ll be doing a brownie run before I head to the airport. But when I get back to Portugal, it shouldn’t take us too long to pack what we need.

Daniel: Well, it might not take you that long. Our daughter on the other hand.

Heather: Yes. Uh, it will be very difficult to convince Lucy she doesn’t need to bring every single book, stuffed animal, every single t-shirt. But I can just ship anything she wants later. You know, once we’re settled here.

Claire: Oh, my god.

Nate: No damage.

Claire: I’m so sorry.

Nate: No damage to your tablet.

Claire: Oh, god. Totally my fault. I need to learn that walking while reading is not considered multitasking.

Nate: That is good advice.

Claire: These are the files for your video conferences tomorrow. I’ve highlighted the issues you mentioned wanting to discuss with each of them.

Nikki: Thank you.

Claire: You’re welcome. And your masseuse is holding a 5:30 appointment for you at the ranch in case you need a little help relaxing after a very long, stressful day.

Nikki: Well, that’s so thoughtful of you. You take good care of me.

Claire: Only because you deserve it, nikki.

Nikki: Well, and you do it so calmly and cheerfully and that really helps me. You have no idea.

Claire: Well, that’s because I really do enjoy working for you. I’m finally doing what I’ve waited so long to do.

Nikki: This is just your first step on your journey. Try not to put too much pressure on yourself.

Claire: I don’t want to fall behind.

Nikki: I don’t think that will happen.

Claire: You’re very encouraging.

Nikki: Well, you’ve already proven that you’re on top of things and I can trust you.

Victor: Adam. Hey son, join me. You’re looking good. Everything all right?

Adam: Yeah.

Victor: You got a minute? Sit down.

Adam: Okay. How you doing today?

Victor: You know–

Adam: Doing okay?

Victor: I’m doing damn well. I feel as if I’m on the top of the world.

Chloe: Hi, lady.

Sally: Chloe. Hi.

Chloe: Is this seat taken?

Sally: It’s entirely yours. Uh, just one– one second, let me finish this.

Chloe: Yeah, no problem.

Sally: Okay. All right, done. Sorry.

Chloe: No, please. I hope it was work. And if it was, I hope that means you took my advice and gave up thinking you have any loose threads to tie up with adam. Please tell me you’ve talked to nick and you’ve worked things out.

Nick: It’s this constant tension. Vic insists that dad isn’t himself and that he’s in some sort of crisis.

Sharon: And you’re not sure about her motives.

Nick: I wasn’t sure about her motives. That’s all changed.

Sharon: Why? What do you mean by that? What happened?

Nick: I just want to get your professional take. Um, I hate even saying this out loud. I think there’s something wrong with my dad. Trelegy for copd. Birds flyin’ high, you kn ow how I feel. Breeze driftin’ on by… …you know how I feel take this one step at a time because now you really have me worried about victor and you. You don’t scare easily. What have you noticed?

Nick: All right. Some of this is firsthand. Let me just say that upfront. Um, a lot of it’s gotten back to me, so I can’t swear that it’s accurate, but I do believe it.

Sharon: Understood. Go ahead.

Nick: Dad made a comment about victoria taking over newman media, not mom. He backtracked, but then he thought that adam and sally were still having a baby.

Sharon: Wow, that is scary.

Nick: Then, he called adam “nicholas.”

Sharon: Has anyone corrected him?

Nick: I mean, I definitely have. I think the others have too. How he reacts to it is a toss-up. I mean, he could be completely pissed off and in total denial, shrug his shoulders and just walk away. Other times, he’s completely lucid.

Sharon: So, it sounds like the issues that victor’s having are memory-related.

Nick: Yeah. I mean, physically he’s fine. As good as ever. It’s just these memory lapses and every time they happen, they’re a complete shock because it is unlike him.

Sharon: Have you spoken to nikki about this?

Nick: Yeah, vic and I tried, um, you know. Mom was resistant. So, she’s either in denial or she sees it and she doesn’t want to talk about it.

Sharon: Nikki would insist on victor getting help if she really thought he needed it. So, she maybe truly doesn’t believe there is a problem.

Nick: Yeah, I don’t know. Vic and I tried to talk to dad.

Sharon: And that didn’t go well?

Nick: No, of course not.

Sharon: Has he acknowledged any of this?

Nick: No, he just flew into a rage and accused me and vic of trying to stab him in the back. Then he kicked us out of his office.

Sharon: Memory issues, emotional volatility, confusion.

Nick: So, what do you think it could be? Like alzheimer’s? Dementia? Are we just overreacting to someone who’s just naturally getting older?

Sharon: I wouldn’t begin to speculate, you know, unless I spoke to victor myself. And even then, I’m not a specialist. You know, this is way out of my field.

Nick: I know. Can you at least tell me where we should go from here?

Victor: Nate hastings tells me that you’re doing a damn good job working for him. Makes me very proud of you.

Adam: Oh.

Victor: Yeah.

Adam: Well, that’s nice to hear. But honestly, it’s– it’s not that hard of a job.

Victor: Oh, yeah?

Adam: Nate refuses to give me any work that involves sensitive newman business because he thinks I’m gonna misuse it. He makes no secret that he doesn’t trust me.

Victor: Well, can you blame him?

Adam: No, not really. Can I tell you something off the record?

Victor: Of course.

Adam: Frankly, I don’t think nate cares about protecting newman business. I think it’s just about reminding me that I’m under his thumb.

Victor: Hm. Interesting. Huh. Now, do you mind if I tell you something? Just between the two of us?

Adam: Yeah, of course. What is it?

Victor: I have a very strong suspicion that nate hastings is conspiring with victoria to undermine me. To unseat me. To push me out of my ceo chair so that she can take over again and run the damn company.

Sally: Well, I’d say it kind of has happened.

Chloe: No, he is furious at adam. It’s his brother who overstepped and once he realizes that, things will change and the two of you will be able to talk.

Sally: It’s more than that, chloe. Nick is convinced that I have some deep, unresolved feelings for adam and he’s not going to compete with that.

Chloe: Okay. So then convince him that’s not the case. Because it’s not, right? No. Sally, absolutely not.

Nikki: So, how are you settling in?

Claire: It’s a process.

Nikki: Well, at least you already know genoa city from the summers that you spent here during your college years.

Claire: That’s been a huge help, yes.

Nikki: Is it feeling a bit more like home?

Claire: Slowly, but surely. I’m finally finding my way around to the places I don’t already know without constantly consulting my gps, which is huge.

Nikki: Have you made any new friends? What about that friend of yours from college? Have you been able to connect with her?

Claire: We’ve been playing phone tag, but I’m sure we’ll connect one of these days.

Nikki: Oh, that’ll be good for you when you do.

Claire: In the meantime, yes, I’m very happy to say I’ve made some new friends that I’m really enjoying. In fact, I’m actually going out for drinks with a few of them tonight.

Nikki: Oh, that’s great. I– I admit it, I am selfish. I want you to love being here so you don’t get any ideas about leaving.

Claire: When I have a dream job working for a woman I couldn’t admire more, I’m not about to walk away from that.

Nikki: Thank you. For that and for everything you have done for me since you’ve been here.

Claire: I’m the grateful one. You have given me an amazing opportunity.

Nikki: Only because you deserve it. All right, you have done more than enough work today, so go on, get out of here.

Claire: Correction, nikki. It’s actually time for you to get out of here. You head home and I’ll lock up.

Nikki: Are you sure?

Claire: Positive. I’ll see you first thing in the morning.

[ Nikki sighing ]

Nikki: You are an angel. Thank you and have a wonderful time with your new friends tonight.

Sally: I shouldn’t have said anything.

Chloe: No, no, no, no, no. No, I’m sorry. No more judgment.

Sally: Okay. That’s a lie.

Chloe: No, I– I promise I won’t say a negative word. Please just tell me, how are you feeling?

Sally: Okay. Just so you know, adam and I had it out. I completely tore into him for all the ways that he’s messed up my life.

Chloe: Good, good for you.

Sally: But before you get too proud of me.

[ Sally sighing ] I also admitted something to him I probably shouldn’t have.

Chloe: Okay.

Sally: I told him the reason that I’ve been feeling all this so deeply is because I haven’t been able to let him go. Okay. You have zero poker face, so you might as well just yell at me.

Chloe: You gave him exactly what he wanted. He wanted to get inside your head and look, mission accomplished. Now, you gave him an opening and now, he will continue to hound you. Even though you were too good for him. Even though he broke your heart. Even though he is a terrible person. Not even a person, I don’t think. And you know what a good, decent, trustworthy, not to mention, sexy man, nick is. Why would you give adam all that power?

Sally: ‘Cause I had to be honest with him.

Chloe: Why? Why? Adam doesn’t understand honesty? It’s like you gave him a free pass to be adam.

Sally: Okay. Well, it’s too late now. It’s out.

[ Chloe groaning ]

Chloe: Okay. Life lesson. Even though you’re feeling something doesn’t mean you need to always let someone know it. Because he is adam, he will do everything he can to make you fall for him again. And then, because he’s adam, he will break your heart.

Sharon: I guess I could have a casual, unassuming conversation with victor. Obviously, I’m more objective than you are and I know him very well. I’d be able to tell if something was off with him. And then that will give me a better sense of what you and victoria are worried about.

Nick: That’d be great. You know, we could set up a time and place for you two to just run into each other and then you can take it from there.

Sharon: Perfect. And don’t worry, I’ll make sure that victor doesn’t feel like he’s being interrogated. I know how to handle victor newman.

Nick: Thank you so much. I’m extremely grateful and I know my mom and victoria will be too. In the meantime, I’ve promised them both that I will devote a lot more of my time to checking in with dad and monitoring the situation.

Sharon: Mm-hmm.

Nick: You don’t think that’s a good idea?

Sharon: Oh, no, I– I think that’s a very good idea. I don’t mean to sound self-involved, especially at a time like this, but do you think that– that will leave you enough time and energy to focus on our business launch?

Nick: Oh, you don’t have to worry about that, sharon. I’m not gonna leave you in the lurch. I’m still committed to our company. I’m very excited about its future. Although I have to say, I don’t doubt for one minute that you could brilliantly do the thing on your own, if it ever came to that.

Sharon: That’s nice of you to say. But part of the fun of doing this is the fact that we’re doing it together.

Nick: Same for me. Don’t worry. Looking out for my dad is not going to interfere in this new adventure we’re starting together. Or pull me back to newman enterprises.

Adam: Well, I– you, you know that victoria is insulted. You demoted her. And nate, um, he’s definitely ambitious.

Victor: Okay.

Adam: She’s smart. She’s shrewd, she’s ambitious. Just like nate. So yes, the two of them teaming up is a real possibility.

Victor: Yeah. That’s what I am fearing. I’m just very glad that I talked to nicholas and he said that he might come and join me again at newman enterprises to keep an eye on both of them.

Adam: When did nick reconsider coming back to newman?

Victor: Mm-hmm. A while ago, I mean, you don’t seem happy to hear that.

Adam: I’m– I’m not. I mean, there’s already been so many changes around that place already. I don’t even know why he would want to show his face at newman enterprises again. He– he was pissed when victoria shoved him out of the way to bring in nate. Especially now, sharon and he started their own company. Unless… unless he has his own agenda. Do you know what brought this on?

Victor: Yeah. Victoria managed to convince nicholas that, you know, their father is losing it. Unstable enough not to be able to run his company.

Adam: Wow, they, uh, are really coming at you from all sides, dad.

Victor: Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Breaks my heart. My own two children conspiring against me. For the stupid, absurd reason that I’m losing it mentally.

Adam: Well, no one’s tougher, sharper and smarter than you are, pop. Must sting that your kids think otherwise. I’m really sorry about that. And might I add, shame on them both.

Victor: Well, I need allies, you know. I really do. Will you be one of them?

Adam: Of course, I will.

Victor: Good.

Adam: You know, I meant it when I said I learned my lesson. So whatever you need, whatever happens, I’m on your team. I’ve got your back.

Victor: I knew I could count on you.

Sharon: You went from dealing with the cameron nightmare, the tragic loss of the baby and now this? You can’t catch a break.

Nick: Yeah. Maybe, I’m the problem. Nick newman: Bad luck charm. That’s all right. I know everything’s gonna get better once I figure out what’s going on with my dad.

Sharon: You and I both know that this is about more than just your dad. You suddenly don’t have sally to talk to or lean on. Adam said something happened.

Nick: It didn’t work. That’s what happened. And I don’t want to think about it and I certainly don’t want to talk about it. I have too much going on in my life to be focusing on what went wrong with sally.

Sharon: Do you want some advice?

Nick: No, but I know you’re gonna give it to me anyway.

Sharon: If you are carrying around unresolved issues about your relationship, they are going to eat away at you. You have to deal with them right away before they all blow up and things get worse.

Nick: I’m not sure I understand what you’re saying. Is your advice that I should try and work things out with sally?

Sally: Well, nick had just walked out on me and I was furious and hurt and I had this jumble in my brain and then– and then adam said, “I screwed up, but I always do, so what is different this time?” And I just blurted out what I felt. And I regretted it the second the words came out.

Chloe: Well, at least you’re still sane enough to know that you screwed up. Unfortunately, adam will hold on to those words for dear life.

Sally: Yeah, I get it. I just have no idea what to do.

Chloe: Nothing. Just forget it ever even happened.

Sally: But I can’t unsay it.

Chloe: Well, it doesn’t mean that you have to follow through on it. And for god’s sake, please go fix things with nick.

Sally: It’s not that simple.

Chloe: Well, nothing worth fixing ever is. Don’t let adam cost you someone who is so valuable to you, on so many levels. If you let nick slip away, you won’t just potentially lose your new business. You will also lose the best man you’ve probably ever known. If your moderate to severe crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis symptoms are stopping you in your tracks…

Nick: I’m not the problem. Sally is still in love with adam. What is there to work out?

Sharon: Has she said that or have you just decided that you know how she feels?

Nick: She didn’t have to, not with words. It’s there. You know how it is with adam and the pull he has on you.

Sharon: Yes, I do. And I also know that what I once thought was love with him sometimes was actually something else. Something very complicated and very unhealthy for everyone.

Nick: But it kept you attached to him. Just like sally is right now and she doesn’t want to admit it. She knows in her head that being in love with him is a bad idea, but it’s still clearly there and I don’t want to compete with it. It’s something she has to work out. In the meantime, I gotta move on.

Sharon: Well, I’m sorry that things turned out like this, for both of you.

Nick: Yeah. Well, um, my focus right now is my dad and getting our business off the ground.

Sharon: Oh, speaking of business. Does moving on from sally mean that you will also be moving on from the new company that you were planning to fund for her? Are you still going to go ahead with that or have you rescinded your offer?

Nick: I don’t know. It’s a tough one. On one hand, it keeps me tied to her. On the other, this was my idea, you know. I made this commitment to her and pulling the funding just because things didn’t work out with us seems like a very adam thing to do.

Sharon: Okay. Well, I don’t know, sally that well, but if the two of you haven’t talked about it, I imagine she’s probably assuming you are going to pull the plug and she’s about to lose everything. So, maybe you at least owe her a conversation so that she isn’t sitting there worried that she’s about to lose everything in her life without any warning.

Nick: You’re right. You’re right. The last thing I want to do is look back on this situation someday and regret how I handled it. Thanks. Hey, it’s me. Can we meet?

Sally: Of course. Yeah, whenever, wherever you want. Okay. Yeah, I– I will be there. And nick, thank you for calling.

[ Sally sighing ] Okay. Well, what do you know?

Chloe: And see? That is a good guy. Doesn’t play games. Isn’t afraid to have a conversation like an adult. This is a really good sign, don’t you think?

Sally: Well, the way my life’s been going, I– I’m afraid to get my hopes up, but one way or another, at least I will know more than I know now after I talk with him. All right, let’s get going because, oh, I have a meeting with nick newman that could change my whole life.

Chloe: Well, fingers crossed, my friend.

Sally: Okay.

Nikki: I am so fortunate that claire came into my life. She is so smart and she’s interested in the business. God knows she’s on top of everything. And calm, you know, there’s no drama because… oh, it’s happened again. I’m talking to myself, aren’t I?

Victor: Oh, sorry, sweetheart. No, not at all. I– I was listening. Um… something about claire and how you liked her and how efficient she was and all that, right?

Nikki: Yeah.

Victor: Sorry, but I had a discussion with adam earlier.

Nikki: And?

Victor: I planted the idea in his head that victoria may be plotting against me, with nate’s help.

Nikki: I’m sure he loved hearing that.

Victor: Well, he didn’t make it too obvious that he was happy about that. But he did say that he thought I was justified in suspecting that victoria was indeed plotting against me. And he quickly pledged his allegiance to me.

Nikki: Of course, he did.

Victor: Yeah. Well, too quickly, but he was trying to be convincing.

Nikki: Victor, do I need to tell you again how much I hate this plan of yours? People will be hurt, including you. No matter how it ends, you’re gonna find out things you don’t want to know.

Victor: Maybe it’s not what I want to know, it’s what I need to know, you know. I need to find out who is gonna make the first move. Victoria or adam. But I’m beginning to have a feeling I will soon find out.

Adam: Sally.

Sally: Adam.

Adam: I, uh, was gonna call, but I figured you needed some time.

Sally: You were right.

Adam: Gotta say, it’s nicer to see you in person though.

Sally: Please don’T.

Adam: Well, I can’t lie. I, um, I can’t get what you said out of my mind.

Sally: Okay. Well, try really hard because I had no business saying any of those things to you, except one. There is no future for us. So, just hold on to that, will you? Please?

Adam: Is– is nick here to meet you?

Sally: Oh, yes, he is.

Adam: Why?

Sally: It’s none of your concern.

Adam: Sally, he abandoned you because of his bruised ego. Can you really stay in a relationship with him after you admitted how you feel about me?

Sally: I am really glad you asked that. So, people hold on to the past for all sorts of reasons and I shared a private thought with you in a moment of confusion. That was a mistake. So, if you respect me at all, you will just leave it alone.

Adam: Sally, I respect you more than you respect yourself. You– you think that these feelings are bad or they’re wrong? Or this is some sign that you’re messed up, but I know that the love that we had, it deserves a chance.

Sally: I’m not having this conversation with you. Not now. Not ever. Okay? Goodbye, adam.

Adam: Oh, well then, I guess that’s that.

[ Sally sighing ]

Sally: Thank you for meeting with me. I was hoping that you would ’cause we have a lot to discuss.

Nick: We don’t have to talk about anything personal. It’s strictly a professional conversation about your–

[ Nick breathing deeply ] About your business startup. Nothing more.

Sally: I see. So in other words, you’re pulling the plug. I get it. You have lost faith in that too.

Nikki: Darling, I don’t deny that victoria was furious when you announced you were coming back to newman and demoted her to co-ceo, but you’re still her father. She still adores you. She would never do anything to betray you. Trust me. If anyone is plotting against you, it’s adam.

Victor: Trust me. I’ll find out soon enough.

Nick: Sally, I’m not pulling out of your business.

Sally: You’re not?

Nick: No. I’ll admit it. I did think about it, but that’s not who I am. And I wanted to tell you that in person. I made a financial commitment to you and I will honor it. Yes, things have changed with us, but one thing that hasn’t changed is my belief in your talent and your potential. So, I’m good, no matter how off track our relationship has gotten.

Sally: How did things get so off track between us?

Nick: Like I said, we don’t have to talk about that. But I will say, it’s not because of me. I was very excited about our relationship. Where it was going and what it could be. Every day, I was hoping and praying that adam would just fade away, but he never did. He was always there. Sally, from someone who deeply cares about you, you need to figure out what you want in life or you’re never gonna be happy.

Sally: I’ve just been so confused. So much has happened.

Nick: I hate to sound cold, but that is not on me. I knew exactly what I wanted. It was your confusion, it has to be worked out. And I just have so much going on in my life. I can’t keep doing this with you.

[ Adam sighing ]

Adam: What? What the hell is going on with you, dad?

Recap written by Suzanne

Claire does work for Nikki at the office. They get along really well. Claire is doing a good job, and Nikki trusts her. They have a nice chat. Nikki leaves, so Claire looks around at the photos on her desk, particularly the one with Victoria. Claire glares at that photo. Back in her room, Claire gets out a folder with some photos of Victoria and the Newmans. She glares at them some more.

Adam sees Victor at GCAC. Victor, who’s in a good mood, invites him to sit down. Adam asks him how he’s doing. Victor is doing well and tells Adam that he’s heard from Nate about how well he’s doing, so he’s proud of him. Adam is glad to hear it but complains that Nate doesn’t trust him, so he doesn’t give him many interesting things to do. Adam admits that he can’t blame Nate for it, though. He does confide to Victor that he thinks Nate just wants to keep him under his thumb, and it has nothing to do with business. In turn, Victor confides that he suspects that Nate and Victoria are conspiring to push him out of his job as CEO. Adam believes they would want that, but he doesn’t know if they’re really pursuing that. Victor tells him about a conversation he overheard between Victoria and Nate about Victor “losing his marbles.” At Victor’s urging, Adam admits that it could be possible that they’re working against him. Victor tells him that Nick will come back to the company and keep an eye on them for him. Adam is shocked to hear it and wonders why Nick would come back. Victor thinks that it’s because Victoria convinced him that Victor is losing it mentally. Victor says that it breaks his heart, so Adam offers his sympathy. Victor asks Adam to be his ally, so Adam assures him that he will be. He pledges to Victor that he has his back and is on his team. They shake hands warmly.

Later, Victor and Nikki have dinner. Nikki praises how great Claire is, but Victor is distracted, due to his discussion with Adam. They talk about what happened with Adam. Nikki reminds him how much she hates his plan to figure out whether Adam or Victoria is trying to sabotage him. Nikki points out again that Victoria loves him and that it’s probably Adam that’s working against him. Nikki texts Victoria to come to the ranch for a visit.

Chloe finds Sally at Society, working on her laptop. Chloe hopes that Sally has given up on the idea of getting back with Adam and has made up with Nick. Sally tells her that Nick has been avoiding her. Chloe wonders if Nick just has to cool down a little. Sally is worried that Nick is ending things between them. Nick believes that Sally has unresolved feelings for Adam, and Sally can’t deny that. She tells Chloe that she gave Adam a tongue-lashing for all the ways he’s hurt her, but she also told him that she hasn’t been able to let him go. Chloe isn’t happy to hear that. They discuss it. Chloe suspects that Adam will prey on Sally and break her heart again. Chloe advises her to work things out with Nick.

Nick chats with Sharon about Victor’s recent memory lapses and how he’s been trying to deal with him. She wants Sharon’s psychological opinion, but it’s not really in her field of expertise. She offers to have a chat with Victor to see if she can see what Nick and Vicky are worried about. Nick agrees to set up a meeting. Sharon asks if Nick will have time and energy to focus on their new business, but he assures her that he will. Sharon holds his hand for a second, recounting all the tough things he’s been through lately. Sharon thinks that Nick’s losing Sally has been hard on him, but he shrugs that off. She advises him to deal with any unresolved issues he might have with Sally. He thinks that her feelings for Adam are the problem. They discuss that. Sharon is sorry that things didn’t work out for him and Sally. She wonders if he’s still planning to fund Sally’s new company. Nick hasn’t decided yet, so she suggests that he talk to Sally about that. He thanks her for her advice and phones Sally to meet up. Sally is very excited to hear from him.

Sally goes to GCAC to meet Nick but sees Adam there. They greet each other. He can’t forget what she said. She tells him that they have no future. Nick walks in, so Adam tries to convince her to choose him over Nick. They argue, and he leaves. Sally thanks him for meeting with her, but he tells her that they just need to have a professional conversation about her startup. She thinks this means he’s pulling the plug on her funding. They sit at the bar. He assures her that he’s not taking away the funding. He tells her that he was excited about their relationship, but he blames Adam, and her feelings for him, for their troubles. Sally is very confused, but he can’t keep arguing with her.

Adam goes to Victor’s office and looks around. He pours himself a drink and sits at his desk. He stares at his painting on the wall. Then he starts going through Victor’s desk drawers. He finds a notebook with a drawing of a snake and wonders what it means. He seems alarmed.

Victor: I’m interested in getting an update for my son.

Nate: Regarding adam’s job performance as my assistant.

Victor: Now, please have a seat. So…how’s he doing?

Nate: I have to say, uh, adam’s work isn’t what i expected at all.

Victor: How so?

Nate: He’s punctual, attentive, always one step ahead with what’s needed. He’s gone above and beyond.

Victor: Sounds like the perfect assistant.

Nate: He’ll accomplish all the tasks I give him and then will anticipate things before i even ask.

Victor: Really.

Nate: His work is exemplary.

Victor: Huh. Interesting.

Nate: You don’t seem too pleased. In fact, you almost look… disappointed.

Devon: It’s good to see you, jill.

Lily: Yeah, good to hear from you.

Jill: I have some news.

Devon: Well, let’s hear it.

Jill: Well, it’s actually not good news or bad news. It’s no news at all. I have found nothing. I have hit a wall. Nothing about mamie, nothing about her investment company llb, nothing about any secret intentions as to why she invested in chancellor-winters.

Lily: Well, maybe there’s nothing to find.

Jill: Apparently.

Devon: Don’t look so happy about it.

Lily: Uh, listen, we-we understand that you are convinced that there’s more to this than what mamie’s claiming.

Jill: I most certainly am. We cannot afford to be complacent–we need to be on alert. This is where you two come in. I have to fly to san paolo for some meetings, all right? So I’m gonna be out of commission for a while.

Lily: Yeah, no problem. Well, uh, hold things down here.

Jill: Please do. Keep me in the loop. I hate to be so far out of touch…when there’s a wild card like mamie around. A wild card that seems intent on staying in genoa city.

Lily: Yeah. I don’t think she’s going anywhere.

Devon: Jill, even if mamie does have some hidden agenda we don’t know about, how big of a threat can she really be to the company?

Jill: I do not underestimate your great aunt…and neither should you.

Mamie: [Huffs] This just can’t be wise.

Tucker: Well, I figured it was time for you and I to touch base.

Mamie: Well, you could have phoned. Look, there are no new developments. I just don’t see what there is to discuss.

Tucker: The other night, i saw you with nate.

Mamie: Yeah.

Tucker. Ah. Just…curious to know what you discussed.

Mamie: Well, I don’t understand your curiosity. He is my great nephew.

Tucker: So just a couple family members catching up.

Mamie: Well, what else would it be?

Tucker: Nothing to do with our arrangement?

Mamie: Well, even if it did…why would it matter? Tucker, I’ve been up front with you from the very beginning. My interest here in all of this is to bring my family under one corporate roof. And you’re devon’s father–i thought that we shared similar goals.

Tucker: Yeah. I just didn’t know they included nate hastings.

Mamie: Well, they do. He’s my family too.

Tucker: Hey, listen, i appreciate and I understand your loyalty, but I’m afraid in nate’s case, you are misguided.

Mamie: [Huffs] Look, you’re crossing a line there, buddy.

Tucker: You are aware that he betrayed my son.

Mamie: It’s my understanding that devon and nate have moved past that.

Tucker: Yeah, it’s one thing to move past a family conflict. It’s another thing to trust nate with business. You know what he tried to do to his family when he was at chancellor-winters.

Mamie: He has given me an overview of what took place.

Tucker: So you know that he teamed up with victoria to buy up all the shares of the company when it went public–essentially handing it over to newman enterprises.

Mamie: He regrets his actions.

Tucker: What he regrets is getting caught. Nate is very ambitious, very single-minded. He’s only looking out for number one–of course, I understand that instinct, but he cannot be trusted. And he could very well destroy any success we aim to achieve.

Mamie: You can dislike and distrust nate all you want. But you and I agreed to stay out of each other’s way… to play to our strengths, our respective goals.

Tucker: Yeah, I just don’t want you to forget the common denominator between us. The target is jill.

Mamie: [Laughs] Oh, I’m aware.

Tucker: And as far as I’m concerned, she has never had any business running chancellor industries. That company belonged to my mother katherine, period.

Mamie: And I don’t blame you there. Jill was katherine’s greatest rival. Ha. I don’t think that katherine would approve either.

Tucker: Good. At least we’re on the same page about that.

Mamie: I have the utmost respect for katherine. And because you are her son… I respect you too.

Tucker: Okay. In that case, don’t forget your goal, ultimately, is to give devon and lily total autonomy at chancellor-winters, right? With jill out of the way. The only reason I’m doing any of this is to secure devon’s future.

Mamie: And devon certainly brings substantial assets into this deal. Lily and devon are excelling. They don’t need jill.

Tucker: Yeah, and you don’t need nate. He was never part of the deal, mamie.

Mamie: It’s nonnegotiable.

Tucker: [Small laugh] You’re making a mistake.

Mamie: I will handle any issues with these cousins. It’s not your concern, and quite frankly, it’s not your business. I’m the one who has a stake in chancellor-winters. So no matter whose son you are, you don’t wanna cross me on this.

Devon: I have my own questions, too, about mamie. I just don’t understand why we need to feel threatened if she has such a small stake and our company’s doing better than ever.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, our numbers are up, all of our are thriving.

Devon: Yeah. And she doesn’t seem like she wants to come in and undermine the company. She’s only talked about supporting lily and me.

Jill: See, that’s exactly what she wants us to think.

Devon: Well, don’t you think the fact that you’ve gone looking and found nothing suspicious about her or her company means that she might be, I don’t know, telling us the truth?

Jill: Or that she’s extremely good at covering her tracks.

Devon: Yeah, but to what end, though, jill? She doesn’t have any power at chancellor-winters.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, her overall investment is marginal.

Jill: Look, I know mamie, and I would bet my life this is all about me.

Lily: Yeah, but I mean, why now? Mamie’s been a successful businesswoman–why would she come after you after this decades-long battle? I mean, it’s ancient history.

Jill: If I could answer that, then I would be able to figure out exactly what we are dealing with.

Victor: So now why would I be upset to find out that adam thus far is behaving himself?

Nate: I can’t imagine. Are you?

Victor: No. Just curious.

Nate: You think adam is falling in line a little too easily.

Victor: Well, let me put it this way–he has many times in the past said that he would… turn a leaf. It’s not new. Never managed to pull it off. Why would this time be different?

Nate: Adam struggled with the idea of being my assistant. He thought the role was beneath him. But now, he seems to have thrown himself into it completely.

Victor: Question is, to what end?

Nate: I believe adam is concerned about one thing in particular. Your state of mind. As is victoria.

Victor: Are you concerned?

Nate: I was your doctor, victor. I know enough to trust that you would get medical help if you needed it.

Victor: [Chuckles] So what did adam say about my well-being?

Nate: He’s noticed some… recent odd behavior from you– forgetfulness, sudden changes in temperament. He thinks we should all keep an eye on you…for your sake, as well as for the company’S.

Victor: All right, nate. Thank you for coming. That’s all.

Nate: Of course.

[Door closes]

Mamie: Oh, is that so?

Tucker: Oh, yeah, that’s a perfect gig for him. He’s in love with power and… he’s infatuated with his new boss. How are you gonna compete with that combo?

Mamie: Where I come from, family always wins.

Tucker: Well, my money’s on victoria, so I’m not gonna worry quite yet.

Mamie: Why is it that everyone always underestimates my ability to get what I want?

Tucker: [Laughs] I would never do that, mamie. I’m very impressed by your… determination.

Mamie: Focus less on me and my goals and more on your side of this arrangement. You are in charge of taking care of jill. Have you even started there yet?

Tucker: It’ll happen. But…[Ahem] At the moment, I have other priorities. See ya.

[Mamie laughs softly]

Nikki: Is everything all right?

Nate: I’m not sure. Victor was clear-headed and lucid just now, very much himself.

Nikki: And that’s unusual?

Nate: There was no hint of any of the odd behavior victoria and adam mentioned they’ve seen from him or what I’ve seen personally.

Nikki: Perhaps that’s because victor’s children are mistaken. Hi, darling.

Devon: Thank you, jill.

Lily: Yeah, we’ll talk soon.

Devon: Well, she’s not gonna let this go, huh?

Lily: [Sighing] No, she’s not. What is that?

Devon: It is tucker asking if I want to go to lunch with him.

Lily: Have you spoken to him lately?

Devon: I have not. I have not reached out. ‘Cause I don’t know what to believe about him these days.

Lily: Well, I mean, he just lost ashley–you think he’d wanna risk his relationship with you too?

Devon: I don’t know what he would or wouldn’t do. I did recently have a conversation with him about his connection to mamie, and he assured me there isn’t one.

Lily: Well, that’s good, right?

Devon: It is, if he’s telling the truth. But he also said that he called a truce with the abbotts and then showed up uninvited to jack and diane’s wedding reception, just to cause tension.

Lily: Yeah, well, he has a knack for showing up places uninvited.

Devon: And despite what he says, I’m not convinced that there isn’t something going on between him and mamie.

Lily: So why didn’t you tell jill that?

Devon: Because I need to get more information before I dump that on her and cause her even more stress in all this.

Lily: Yeah, that’s true, because she would lose it. But I mean, last time we spoke, you said that you were gonna distance yourself from tucker just for everyone else’s sake.

Devon: Yeah, I know. I’ve…been thinking about it. And it’s my instinct to do it. Even though he’s been great with dominic lately, and it’s a nice thought to have my dad in my life and in my son’s life. But I just–I can’t keep ignoring all the warning signs around me. He might be messing with abby’s family and ours.

Lily: So what are you gonna do?

Devon: I’m going to… tell him that… my day is full.

Lily: I’m sorry. I know this is really hard on you.

Devon: Yeah.

[Phone rings] Now he’s calling me.

Lily: Well, he’s probably not gonna want to take no for an answer.

Devon: Hello.

Tucker: Hey. Thanks for taking my call.

Devon: What’s going on?

Tucker: Well, I was hoping maybe you could carve out some time for me today… and I can meet you wherever you want, you just name the time and place.

Devon: Like I said, I’ve got a lot goin’ on.

Tucker: Yeah, I realize you’re very busy, um… or maybe you’d rather not speak to me because there’s a little…tension between us. Uh, but I felt like we were getting to a place of trust… and then my marriage to abby’s mom fell apart, and… anyway, I would just hate if that were to come between you and me.

Devon: Well, I imagine that it’s been difficult for both of you.

Tucker: There’s a lot to say about it. Uh…so what do you think? Cup of coffee somewhere?

Devon: I really can’T.

Tucker: It would really mean a lot to me if you could… if you could.

Devon: Okay. Sure. I will come and talk to you, but if we do this, we’re gonna have a real conversation, ’cause there’s a few things I’d like to make clear to you.

Tucker: Hey.

Devon: Hey.

Tucker: Thanks so much for making time for me.

Devon: Sure thing.

Tucker: Uh…want some food?

Devon: No.

Tucker: Something to drink?

Devon: I’m all set, I’m all set, thank you.

Tucker: How’s dom?

Devon: He’s good.

Tucker: Good. So, uh… not too long ago, uh, it seemed like… you and I were in a good place. But lately, I’ve gotten the feeling you’d like to keep your distance. And if that’s the case, I’d just like to know why.

Devon: Yeah. I’ll tell you exactly why. You have a lot of drama around you. I’m not sure how to keep my guard down with you, knowing that I can get played.

Tucker: And you actually believe I would do something like that to you.

Devon: I actually don’t think you would, but I don’t know for sure, and that’s the problem.

Tucker: Yeah. So we have definitely lost something.

[Ahem] And it seemed to coincide with my breakup with ashley. But…whatever it is, I’d like to fix it if you’ll tell me how.

Devon: I mean, I don’t think that there’s just one thing i can tell you to do to get me to trust you.

Tucker: I feel like I’ve been very, uh…clear and honest about my intentions.

Devon: You also claimed to call a truce with the abbotts, and then you showed up uninvited to jack and diane’s wedding reception, so…what were your intentions with that?

Tucker: [Laughs] Just to give them a wedding gift.

Devon: Yeah?

Tucker: Yeah, really, it was a bonsai tree, actually, to… symbolize my desire for peace and harmony with them.

Devon: I think you knew exactly what you were doing. Those people don’t like you, so you could have put the gift in the mail.

Tucker: Yeah, I could have. The idea was that I would communicate my sincerity better if I were there in person. But maybe you’re right, maybe that would have been the better route.

Devon: Yeah, maybe. I also can’t shake the feeling that you have something going on with mamie. ‘Cause I know what I saw, and i know what I felt, and I’m not stupid.

Tucker: So it’s come to that, really? Anything I say, anything I do, you just instantly doubt? Just one suspicion after the other?

Devon: Well, weren’t you the person to tell me that you can’t blame anybody for doubting you these days?

Tucker: I’m not blaming anyone for anything.

[Sighs] I’m trying. I’m really trying hard, devon, and…I wish you could just meet me halfway. Or… what can I do?

Devon: You can talk to me. I’m here, I came here, so how ’bout you start with talking to me about ashley? ‘Cause I do agree with you that this all started when you guys broke up, and based off of what I’ve heard, it doesn’t seem like you’ve taken the right amount of responsibility for that breakup.

Tucker: I feel like I’ve done…everything I can do. I can’t do anymore.

Devon: Okay. Ashley told abby this morning that you reached out to her. Is that…is that you softening your stance and trying to work things out?

Tucker: I wish there was a way to do that, I really do. I hate the way things ended between ashley and me, but she didn’t respond. So that tells me that she doesn’t see a path forward for us.

Devon: Well, you do know that she told her family that you scared her in paris. So do you think that maybe she’s not responding to you because she still feels that way? Or maybe she thinks it’s a waste of time ’cause you won’t compromise maybe?

Tucker: Oh, man…

Devon: No?

Tucker: No, let me tell you something–I compromised. I compromised and accommodated until I couldn’t do it anymore.

Devon: Hmm. And this all just came from her wanting to go back to her family and her family’s company. Like, what did you expect her to do? Just wanted her to cut the family off so you can have her all to yourself?

Tucker: No. I wanted to be a priority for her–not the priority, but a priority. And I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

Devon: No, it’s not too much to ask, but you can be someone’s priority without forcing them to abandon their family. And you have to know how people are seeing this from the outside, ’cause it looks like you just dumped ashley ’cause she wouldn’t start a new company with you.

Tucker: No, no, that’s just one example of… a bigger issue between us. She’s always going to choose her family over me.

Devon: How do you know that? You guys had just gotten married. What if she was scared… ’cause your of history together. Hasn’t been the smoothest. She could have been afraid that you were only with her ’cause of what she could do for your career and not ’cause you loved her.

Tucker: Is that…how you think I view the people in my life? Just as tools to be used?

Devon: I mean, sometimes you do.

I have type 2 d

Tucker: My love for ashley was always real. Never all just about business.

Devon: Okay. If that’s the case, then why is it so easy for you to walk away and not work things out?

Tucker: This has not been e– you think this has been easy for me? Do you think I want any of this? What I wanted was to spend a honeymoon with my wife. I wanted to enjoy her, and i wanted to plan for our future– that’s it.

Devon: Okay. Well, tell me, why do, uh, why do jack and billy think that you’re trying to sabotage jabot?

Tucker: [Sighs] I might have let off a little steam when i first got back from paris.

Devon: You might have let off a little steam–what does that mean?

Tucker: Exactly what you’d expect it to mean. I was, uh… full of rage, and I made empty threats. But it was just…pain and fury talking, that’s it.

Devon: Well, you certainly made an impression. If they didn’t trust you before, they certainly don’t trust you now.

Tucker: Devon, when I came back from paris, I was hurt, man. I was alone. And, uh… well. I don’t have any intention to follow through on any of those threats I made or even implied in the heat of the moment.

Devon: But how is anybody supposed to know that? How am I supposed to know that you’re not still angry at ashley or you’re not planning for some kind of revenge plot down the line?

Tucker: I’m not planning anything–the only reason I’m sticking around this town is for you and dom. I wanna fix this, I wanna fix whatever this is, this, this… rift between us. Is that even possible?

Devon: Yeah. It is. If you’re telling the truth and you don’t have some revenge plan for the abbotts and you’re not connected to mamie and my company now…sure.

Tucker: Regardless of all that stuff, you matter to me. Dom matters to me.

Devon: Well, it’s funny that you say that, because you keep doing stupid things to jeopardize our relationship… like threaten my girlfriend’s family. And you know ashley is gonna come back to town eventually, and when she does, if things haven’t been made right and you’re still in our orbit, there’s gonna be chaos.

Tucker: Not for me.

Devon: I’m not talking about you–I’m talking about ashley and her family. And you know as well as I do that abby will always side with her mother. And I’m always gonna side with my son’s mother. Unless you’re willing to swallow your pride and make things right with ashley.

Nikki: It is cruel to make your children think you might be ill.

Victor: Sweetheart, any less cruel than the possibility that one of my children may betray me?

Nikki: Victoria would never betray you!

Victor: You so sure of that? She might think she’d do that for my own good. This needs to play itself out. That’s all.

Nikki: I need to think about that. I need to think about all of this.

[Phone rings]

Victor: Hello, jill.

Jill: Victor.

Victor: So I see that mamie johnson publicly announced her investment in chancellor-winters. Didn’t I tell you the investor would finally reveal themselves?

Jill: I wanna know details. I wanna know who reached out to whom. I wanna know everything that went down. I wanna know every word that mamie johnson said to you during this process.

Victor: I can’t believe you’re feeling threatened.

Jill: Oh, my god, victor! Someone has infiltrated my company without my permission, and you think that I shouldn’t take it seriously?

Victor: A relative of devon and lily wants to invest in a company they’re running together–what’s so unnerving about that?

Jill: Have you conveniently forgotten my troubled history with mamie?

Victor: I think it’s charming she wants to work with devon and lily.

Jill: The truth is that i have no reason to trust mamie.

Victor: Well, I can assure you that mamie at no time indicated anything that wasn’t aboveboard.

Jill: Well, I’m beginning to wonder if you would tell me if she had.

Mamie: Oh, lily! What a nice surprise.

Lily: Mamie! Aw, so good to see you.

Mamie: May I join you?

Lily: Of course, yeah, please sit down. So how’s it going? How does it feel being back?

Mamie: Wonderful. I’m settling in. Things are falling into place. You know, I haven’t spoken with you since the party.

Lily: I know, since your big announcement.

Mamie: And how are you feeling about that?

Lily: Well, I’m happy that you wanna be involved with devon and me and the company. But I find the mystery surrounding it a little surprising.

Mamie: I just wanted to make sure that everything was in place before revealing myself.

Lily: Ah, and what does everything entail?

Mamie: Oh, all the I’s and t’S… nothing more.

Lily: Well, you certainly made an impression on jill, that’s for sure.

Mamie: Mm. I take it that you’ve spoken with her.

Lily: Yes, and she is unsettled.

Mamie: Well, I promise you I’m not gonna lose any sleep over that.

[Laughing]

Lily: I know. I know you two are not best friends.

Mamie: Well, that’s an understatement.

Lily: But I mean, can you really blame her for questioning your intentions? Especially in the way that you went about it.

Mamie: Well, to be frank, i don’t care what jill thinks. I care what you think. And devon.

Lily: Okay.

Mamie: I have to ask. Do you doubt my sincerity? My decision to invest?

Lily: Well, I have thought about that for several days now. Can I speak plainly?

Mamie: Oh, I would expect nothing less.

Tucker: I’m not sure what you want me to say.

Devon: I mean, if ashley walked through these doors right now, would you try and make amends and work things out with her?

Tucker: Of course I would. I loved her, I love her still.

Devon: Well, there you go.

Tucker: It’s not that simple.

Devon: What really happened in paris to blow things up so fast?

Tucker: Ashley changed her mind about what she truly wants in life.

Devon: If that’s it, then you clearly overreacted.

Tucker: All right, would you…just give up your dreams, your career, your business’s future if abby asked you to?

Devon: Without a question.

Tucker: You’re certain of that?

Devon: Yes. There’s nothing i wouldn’t do for the woman that i love.

Tucker: [Laughs] There isn’t, is there?

Devon: No.

Tucker: I guess I have some thinking to do.

Victor: Hi, sweetheart. Have you thought about what we discussed?

Nikki: I can’t wrap my head around it. Nor can I condone it. It is a cruel deception, victor. And if victoria and nicholas– or even adam, for that matter– figure out that you’re laying a trap for them, all hell could break loose.

Victor: Well, as far as I’m concerned, the end justifies the means, you know? And, uh… once one of them betrays me, the rest will understand what motivated me to do this.

Nikki: What if you can’t keep the charade up long enough? I mean, nate is already suspicious of your behavior. And don’t forget–he helped you play dead, so he is well aware of what you are capable of. And he could share his suspicions with victoria.

I know. I factored that in. Very soon, one of my kids will make a move.

Lily: I do believe that you wanna do the right thing.

Mamie: I do.

Lily: And I’m sure you’ve realized that most of your surviving family is here in genoa city.

Mamie: I regret the distance I’ve had from you, devon and nate these past years. I wanna remedy that.

Lily: I know, I’m sure you wanted to, you know, have a connection with us that’s tangible, and so you made your investment.

Mamie: That’s exactly right.

Lily: But I do think that you wanted to shake jill to her core. And so I think you figured why not kill two birds with one stone?

Mamie: [Chuckles] Astute like your mother.

[Both chuckling]

Lily: I do think, though, that the family we’ve lost would be really happy that you’re here. That we can build something together, stronger and better.

Mamie: I agree. I’ll take that a step further if you’ll indulge me.

Lily: Of course.

Mamie: Financial profit is a wonderful bonus. But this… this is about family. That includes nate. I really want him to be at our company.

Lily: [Small laugh] Yeah, that’s, uh, not gonna be as easy as you think.

Mamie: Ohh, these lingering tensions!

Lily: Yes, absolutely–for good reason. I’m sure nate told you.

Mamie: Shh. I know what he did. I also know that he is deeply remorseful. He owns that he was wrong. Can we really ask any more of anyone?

Lily: [Sighs] I… I think it’s gonna be harder for devon.

Mamie: Lily, what will it take to trust him again to give him another chance?

Devon: Nate.

Nate: Devon. How are you? Uh…how’s dom?

Devon: Dom is good. He’s, uh, he’s getting big. Getting big and wearing me out. But, you know, it’s worth it. I’ll see you around.

Nate: Uh, hang on, um… I, uh, haven’t had a chance to get your take on aunt mamie’s return…now that we know she’s the new investor in chancellor-winters.

Devon: Oh, yeah. I think it’S…I think it’s great for the family. Lily and I were just talking about how she was probably feeling isolated up in detroit. So, you know, for her to be back here and around us, it’s the best thing for her.

Nate: Yeah. That makes sense.

Devon: I also think it’s important that we make her feel welcomed, like we value her being here.

Nate: Yeah. Couldn’t agree more.

Devon: Maybe that’s something that you and I can work on together.

Nate: I’d like that. In the spirit of being, uh… completely transparent, I think there’s something you should know.

Devon: Oh, boy. What is it?

Nate: Aunt mamie seems intent on bringing me back to chancellor-winters. I suspect she’s going to work on you and lily to try to achieve that.

Devon: Well, I’m not surprised, ’cause she did bring it up at the party, so…

Nate: And she brought it up to me directly as well. Wants to know what it would take to get me back at the family company.

Devon: [Exhales] Huh. Well, I appreciate the warning. Thank you for that.

Nate: Just wanna be clear. I’m not the one driving this. I’m perfectly happy where I am at newman. This is a notion that exists only in aunt mamie’s head.

Devon: If that’s the case, then it’s gonna be up to you to dissuade her of it.

Tucker: Is there a way back from this?

[Phone notification]

Ashley: No.

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…

Nicholas: Dad is as sharp and cunning as ever.

Abby: You mean–

Nicholas: We’ve been played. Duped. All of us.

Christine: It’s really good to see you.

How’s paul? How was the trip?

Christine: Not good.

Ashley: Hey, diane.

Lily: Oh, hello. What a surprise.

Daniel: Mm-hmm.

Lily: Good morning.

Daniel: Good morning.

Lily: Do you want some coffee?

Daniel: No. No coffee. Not– not right now. Maybe later. Uh, are you busy?

Lily: Uh, depends. What’d you have in mind?

Daniel: I have something very exciting to show you.

Lily: Oh, well, in that case, I’m very free. Lead the way. [ Laughing ]

Daniel: Please.

As long as I can remember.

Nick: Morning. Thank you both for meeting me here.

Nikki: Good morning, darling. Your sister said it was something about your father, so where else would I be?

Victoria: But I’m so glad you called. I’ve been dying to talk to you since last night. You told me that I was right about dad.

Nick: Yeah. Sorry to keep you hanging. I just didn’t wanna get into it in front of nate.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] He’s not our enemy, nick.

Nick: I don’t trust him, so.

Nikki: All right. Uh, forget about nate. Obviously, something has happened. So, what’s going on?

Nick: Well, it’s not easy, but it’s kept me up all night.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] I don’t like the sound of this.

Nick: And I don’t like saying it, but now that I’ve witnessed it firsthand, dad is fading and I think it’s happening faster than I ever imagined.

Victor: Hello, son.

Adam: Hey, dad. Good morning. Oh, don’t worry, I’m not, uh, slacking off. I’m actually– I’m multitasking. You see, I’m eating breakfast. I’m working on nate’s emails like the positive worker bee that I have morphed into. So, please hold the applause. I know. I know.

Victor: Stop this right now, okay?

Adam: Stop what?

Victor: You stop insulting my intelligence.

Adam: What? That’s not what I’m doing at all.

Victor: You don’t think I know what you’re up to? You don’t think I know what’s on your mind?

Adam: Dad, I– I– I don’t understand. All I’m trying to do is make amends to you. I’m trying to prove myself to you and I’m sitting here happily working my way up from the bottom like we talked about. I don’t understand. Did you forget about that?

Victor: Forget about what? Huh? How much of a victim you have been? How life has treated you unfairly? Do you know we all have a cross to bear? That doesn’t give us the right to treat other people badly, all right?

Adam: I’m trying to fix that.

Victor: What? By betraying those who are trying to help you?

Adam: I’m sorry. W– where is this coming from, dad?

Victor: Do you know how often I have stood by you, defended you, explained your actions to your siblings and my wife? Do you know how often? No more! I’m done with it!

Adam: What? Wait, what does that mean exactly?

Victor: I’m done with all of it.

Adam: You’re firing me?

Victor: Yes!

Adam: Again?

Victor: You bet!

Adam: Wow.

Victor: I don’t want anything to do with you anymore. That’s it!

Adam: What is this about? Did– did nate say something to you? Is nate unsatisfied with my work?

Victor: He has nothing to do with it! He has nothing to do with it! I’m your boss! Stop hiding behind that phony position of yours. That’s it! No more!

Nick: So, dad and i were hanging out. We were, uh, working heavy bag, just talking about everything. Life. Nothing serious. No business, no agenda, just reconnecting. You know, it’d been far too long. It’s a perfectly normal conversation. And then he said that you had taken over newman media.

Victoria: Me? Not mom?

Nikki: Did you correct him?

Nick: Uh, I did. He tried to play it off like it was just an accident, you know, a slip of the tongue and I was ready to believe him, but then I remembered you had told me you thought dad had been acting erratically lately.

Victoria: Yes. This is exactly the– the kind of thing that I’ve been talking about.

Nikki: Oh, okay. Wait a minute. To be fair, I have lapses like that from time to time. Everybody does.

Nick: Of course, mom. We all do. And I really didn’t think that much about it. But then he said something about adam and sally.

Victoria: What about them?

Nick: That they were expecting a baby.

Victoria: What?

Nikki: Oh, my god. Did you say anything?

Nick: Yeah, I mean, as gently as I could, I, you know, I told him that the baby had been lost during childbirth.

Victoria: Did dad remember when you pointed that out?

Nick: I don’t think so. He just seemed confused and changed the subject and then he took off.

Victoria: Oh, this is even worse than I thought.

Nick: There’s one other thing. As he was leaving, he, uh, he said to me that he wanted me to come back to newman. His exact words were, “we need you back where you belong.”

Nikki: Well, I– I think that’s encouraging. At least he remembered that you’re not here anymore.

Nick: I think there’s more to it than that. I don’t think he meant it consciously, but the more I thought about it last night, the more I was wondering if, you know, if it was a cry for help.

[ Lily laughing ]

Daniel: Kind of already did.

Lily: You did?

Daniel: Yeah. I did not want to chance missing this place. So, uh, signed the paperwork last night.

[ Lily laughing ]

Lily: Well, congratulations.

Daniel: Well, thank you.

[ Lily laughing ]

Lily: Wait, what if I said I didn’t like the idea?

Danny: Do you really think I’m not gonna ask you about this nasty connection that you’re so glad to be rid of? Sorry, but I can’t just let it go at that.

Phyllis: Well, I’m sorry. Deal with it. It happened. It’s the past. My mistake. Moving on. Oh, well, it’s over. End of story.

Danny: Are we talking about another jeremy stark here?

Phyllis: Jeremy who? Who? Huh? See, I don’t know about my past. I’m over it. I’m only optimistic about my future. Upward and onward. That’s what I say. Okay, come on. This is– this is where you say, “I’m happy for you phyllis and I’m proud of you.” This is where you say that.

Danny: Well, um, I’d really love to, but this enthusiasm, uh, how do I put it? Feels a little bit over the top and I’m not really buying it, so, you know.

Phyllis: Nope, nope, nope, nope. I’m not gonna let your skepticism get to me. I’m not gonna do that. I’m not gonna do that this time. You know, I’m not going to do that with summer or daniel. It’s not gonna get to me. I am done with the past. I’m done with the rain. I’m done with it. I just want the sun. That’s all I want. I just want to seek the sun wherever I go and have the sun follow me.

[ Phyllis sighing ] Okay. Can you please just at least say you’re happy for me?

[ Danny sighing ] Please?

Danny: Well, being that I’ve been on the wrong side of saying no to you for way too long, I guess, um, what else can I say but yes?

Phyllis: Good. That’s a good choice.

Danny: Yeah. This, um, I don’t know, this new upbeat attitude of yours is, uh, pretty infectious. Yeah.

Phyllis: Well, I’m glad to hear that. Definitely. Oh, you know, speaking of which, can you– can you do me a favor? Can you, um, box that up and um, give me an identical order, um, all of it to go?

Danny: Okay.

[ Danny laughing ] What are you up to?

Daniel: You’re right. You know, I probably should have talked to you before signing any paperwork. But, um, you know, I figured even if you hated the idea of me living downstairs from you, I could probably get you to come around and change your mind. You know, no matter what it was that I had to do, no matter how long it took, I can be very persuasive.

Lily: I don’t know. I’d have to see it in action.

[ Lily chuckling ] Okay. Not bad. How soon can you move in?

Daniel: Uh, I mean, once these boxes are outta here, um, I think they’re– tomorrow? Yeah. Something like that. Uh, but consider yourself warned. I’m gonna need a ton of help decorating this place.

Lily: Well, I mean, I’ll help you with anything, but you’re the artistic one. What do you mean?

Daniel: Painting. Yeah, but you know, decorating, interior design, that’s a totally different animal.

Lily: Well, I’m sure you have an idea of what you want.

Daniel: Yeah. Yeah. No, I have an idea. I was thinking of putting the bed in the bedroom.

Lily: Oh, so you don’t have an idea?

Daniel: Nope.

Lily: Okay.

Daniel: No. Well, I want it to be cool. You know, I definitely want it to be cool. Um, and comfy.

Lily: Cool and comfy. Okay. [ Laughing ] Um, oh, wait, you know what? Sally spectra is launching her own interior design company. You could be one of her first clients.

Daniel: Okay. Yeah. See, I knew you’d be brilliant at this.

Lily: Yeah. Always happy to help a neighbor.

Daniel: Hm. Before I go calling sally, I– I was just thinking maybe for a good measure, I could take you on a little tour of the apartment. We can go room by room very slowly.

Lily: Oh. Thought you’d never ask.

[ Lily laughing ]

Victoria: Dad forgot that sally and adam lost the baby, his own granddaughter. That’s– that’s just heartbreaking.

Nick: Yeah. Really shook me up too.

Victoria: Can you finally agree that you’ve been misreading me now?

Nick: About what?

Victoria: That my concern hasn’t been some made up revenge plot against dad for demoting me. I’m genuinely concerned about him.

Nick: Yeah, vic. It’s given me a lot to think about, especially how I think we should handle this.

Nikki: What are you thinking you should do?

Nick: Well, for starters, I’m definitely not gonna leave you two to face this alone, especially when we don’t even know what this is.

Nikki: Let me just say, it could very well be natural memory loss. That’s not unusual in a person his age.

Victoria: Or it might be the beginning of something even worse.

Nick: Yeah. Well, we just have to do whatever it takes to get dad the help he needs. I mean, it’s killing me even talking about this.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Me too. But we’re gonna get through this and we’re gonna do it together, right?

Nick: Absolutely. Right, mom?

Nikki: Of course, we will.

Nate: Morning, victor.

Victor: Hey, nate. How the hell are you man?

Nate: Good.

Victor: Are you, uh, meeting someone or you wanna join me?

Nate: I have a meeting with your son.

Victor: Oh.

Nate: Who’s actually doing a good job, by the way.

Victor: That’s wonderful news. Very glad to hear that. Anyway, you have a good day.

Nate: Same to you.

Victor: Thank you.

Nate: Sorry, I’m late. Got held up on a conference call with the crawford legal team.

Adam: No, it’s no problem. I, um, took advantage of the time and I got caught up on your emails.

Nate: Ah, good job. Everything okay?

Adam: Yeah, sure. Why?

Nate: I don’t know. You seem a little off. Did you have some kinda run-in with your father before I got here?

Adam: Look, we’ll discuss it later.

Nate: Victor.

Nate: Victor.

Victor: My goodness. Nate and adam. Hope you had a productive breakfast.

Nate: We did. Thank you.

Adam: Yes, for sure.

Victor: I’ll see you both at the office.

Nate: It’s good running into you, victor.

Victor: All right. Same to you. Anything else?

Adam: No. No, not a thing.

Victor: Okay.

Adam: See you at the office.

Victor: Yeah.

Phyllis: Isn’t this better than the boring athletic club? Isn’t it? And you know, I’m a good time.

Danny: Uh, yeah, you can be.

[ Phyllis laughing ]

Phyllis: Yeah, I can be.

Danny: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: You know, when the weight is lifted, I’m a good time.

Danny: Yeah. Um, those are your words, not mine.

[ Phyllis laughing ]

Phyllis: I know that I have been, um, reckless and troubled and moody. I know that about me.

Danny: Okay. That is a fantastically mild version of who you were and what you did.

Phyllis: There you go.

Danny: Thank you.

Phyllis: Yeah, I guess so. You know what, I’m gonna add competitive and fierce to the list. Yeah. But you know the important thing is that was then and things have changed and that’s what I did before. And we’ve– we’ve all changed. We’ve all moved on and it’s good. You know, I didn’t go to prison.

Danny: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: And I’m gainfully employed.

Danny: Yeah, how’s it going over at omegasphere?

Phyllis: Good. Really good.

Danny: Are you still worried about being under the microscope of daniel?

Phyllis: No, not really. I mean, I’ve earned his mistrust, so I get it. And– and it’s working out. It’s working out. I mean, the thing that I learned is that we can’t change the past and the future hasn’t happened. It’s– it’s ahead of us and we have to live in the present and that’s what I’m doing.

Danny: [ Laughing ] Look, I am not complaining, but what happened to you and where is this coming from? I’m confused.

Phyllis: Because of you. The conversation that we had the other day. I mean, you taught me that you are who you feel. And if I feel great, I’m gonna be great. You know what I mean? And I will be great thanks to you.

Danny: Um, glad I could be of service, ma’am.

Phyllis: Can I have that grape?

Danny: No, no, no. That’s– okay. Have another one. Live a little.

[ Danny laughing ]

Lily: Daniel, honestly, I love this place. I could not be happier for you.

Daniel: Really? I mean, you barely checked out the windows in the guest room and I know how much you love windows.

Lily: I do? Oh, that’s right. I do. Windows. Don’t get me started.

Daniel: Mm-hmm. And these all meet your approval?

Lily: Oh, yes. I could not be happier. Okay, but you and I, we do have to get back to work.

Daniel: I know. I know. Maybe, um, we can pick up where we left off later? We’ll come back here, just you and me, have a proper little housewarming party. Get some champagne, a little takeout. Can have a little party picnic on the floor. It’d be just like my very first apartment.

Lily: Yeah. I can’t wait. All right. But we should get going.

Daniel: Yeah. Or– or maybe something unavoidable came up and we couldn’t help being late.

Lily: You’re bad.

[ Lily laughing ]

Daniel: I always have been. And I always will be.

[ Lily chuckling ]

Nate: I don’t know, adam. Your dad seemed like he was in good spirits when I got there.

Adam: Yeah, I noticed. Which makes me more worried. I mean, that was a 180 from the rage he was in with me. I mean, I’m telling you, it was scary. One minute, he was in a full-blown rampage and the next minute, it was like it never even happened. And then, there were the memory lapses.

Nate: Memory lapses? Like– like what?

Adam: Well, he– he seemed to have completely forgotten how supportive he was of me turning my life around and that I’m working for you at newman. Oh, and in the middle of his meltdown, he fired me.

Nate: You’re kidding me?

Adam: Mm-hmm. His exact words were, “you’re out and you’re gonna stay out.” But you heard him when we were leaving. “I’ll see you back at the office.” I mean, what the hell was that?

Nate: Yeah, that definitely doesn’t sound like victor newman.

Adam: You remember when he called me nicholas?

Nate: Victoria’s been concerned that the mental pressure of him stepping back in to run newman again has been causing his erratic behavior.

Adam: What if it’s, um, is more than that?

Nate: Even after what you witnessed today at society, I’m still not convinced it’s as extreme as you and victoria think it is. But we definitely need to keep an eye on it and shift into protective mode for the sake of his health and wellbeing.

Adam: Yeah, not to mention protective mode of newman enterprises.

Victoria: You know, as upset as I am about dad, I’m glad I’m not the only one anymore who thinks that something needs to be done here.

Nick: I’m 100% on board with getting to the bottom of this. But vic, just so we’re clear, I will have no part whatsoever in pushing dad out of newman or trying to get you the ceo job back.

Victoria: Believe me, that’s the last thing on my mind. And if dad is– if he’s in trouble and he needs help as much as we think he does, we can’t just sit back and let mom take care of him all by herself.

Nick: I promise you, I’m not gonna let that happen.

[ Sighs ] I mean, it’s crazy to even think about the invincible victor newman starting to slip away. It’s just unimaginable. Kinda puts everything in perspective, huh?

Victoria: What else is going on with you? Is it christian? Is he okay?

Nick: Ah, christian’s, uh, he’s great. It’s not him.

Victoria: Well, then what is it?

Nick: All right. Uh. Sally and I are done.

Victoria: How? What happened?

Nick: I’m not ready to go into it with you. We need to just focus on dad right now. So, we need to– we need to have a serious talk with him.

Victoria: Okay. You’re right. Then we need to, uh, we need to come up with a cover story.

Nick: No, no cover story. We’re upfront about our concerns. If this turns out to be a situation where he needs help, whether it’s professional or medical and we weren’t open and honest with him, he’s gonna feel blindsided and he will push back even harder than he usually does.

Victoria: I suppose you’re right.

Nick: Sensing a but coming.

Victoria: I just don’t know how dad is gonna handle being confronted about this right now.

Nick: Well, vic, when is there ever gonna be a good time where we can sit with our father and tell the great victor newman that we think he’s starting to lose it?

Nikki: Hi, sweetheart.

Victor: Hi, sweetheart. You look upset.

Nikki: I had a meeting with our children this morning.

Victor: Ooh, about?

Nikki: About you. Nicholas is pretty shaken up about the time the two of you spent together yesterday. He says there was confusion about victoria taking over newman media instead of me, and that you had completely forgotten that adam and sally lost their baby.

Victor: Why the hell would he say that?

Nikki: Are you telling me it didn’t happen?

Victor: Well, no, maybe he was confused.

Nikki: Well, victoria and he think you are confused.

Victor: Sweetheart, I’m not confused. Really. Did nicholas say anything about wanting to come back to newman?

Nikki: I have a feeling he wouldn’t rule it out. But listen to me, victor, they are worried. They’re– they’re frightened and so am I.

Victor: Sweetheart, I adore you. There’s nothing to worry about. Okay?

Nikki: All right. Answer this question.

Victor: Okay.

Nikki: Is this somehow part of this plan that you have in the works to find out who in the family might betray you? Because if it is, it’s too cruel.

Victor: Okay. All I wanna find out is who is the traitor amongst my children.

Nikki: Adam will be the traitor.

Victor: Well, either I find out what I’ve always thought about him or we reconfirm the idea that adam only is out for himself. That he does anything to get what he wants.

Nikki: And exactly how are you going to do that?

Victor: Well, you get to leave that up to me, okay?

Danny: So, one night, about a month ago, we’re in cleveland doing this concert and we’re right in the middle of the song and this teen slips past security, gets on stage, grabs one of peter’s guitars, and– and launches into one of the most amazing guitar solos I have heard in years. And so, yeah, I– I had to stop the security from pulling him off because, you know, we had to finish the song and I wanted him to continue playing.

Phyllis: Oh, my gosh.

[ Danny laughing ] Oh, my gosh. What happened?

Danny: So afterwards, peter and I took him backstage, shook his hand, each signed the guitar, and then we let him leave with it. I told him to reach out to me in five years.

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. Oh, my goodness. You made his night.

Danny: You kidding? He made my night. He told me his mother had all my albums and that’s what inspired him to start playing. You know, it’s, uh, it’s pretty cool. It reminded me of why I do what I do.

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah. That’s beautiful. Very inspiring story.

[ Laughing ] That’s beautiful.

Daniel: Excuse me, um, doesn’t somebody have a new job at omegasphere that she’d hate to be late for?

Phyllis: Oh, well, I don’t clock in, uh, for another 20 minutes, but I’ll definitely be there. I won’t be late, boss.

Daniel: Okay.

Danny: Uh, hey, mr. Taskmaster, uh, I noticed that two people have taken the morning off.

Daniel: Yes. But we have a very valid excuse. I was showing lily around my new apartment. I am finally moving out of the hotel.

Phyllis: Oh, you found a place!

Danny: Wonderful. Awesome.

Lily: Yep, right downstairs from me. Isn’t that great?

Danny: Yeah. Hey, congratulations to the both of you.

Daniel: There’s more. There is a spare bedroom with your name on it whenever you’re in town.

Danny: Well, does that include extended stays?

Daniel: [ Laughing ] I guess if you play your cards right. Why?

Danny: I don’t know. I was just, um, I was thinking about hanging around genoa city a little longer than I expected.

Adam: Dad.

Victor: Hey, son. My darling, I’ll be in my office.

Nikki: All right.

Adam: Hey, nikki. Do you have a minute?

Nick: Dad, we need to talk.

Nikki: What do you want?

Adam: I will make this quick. I’m concerned about my dad. And I was wondering, have you noticed anything off about him lately?

Nikki: Even if I had, and I’m not saying I have, what makes you think I would discuss it with you?

Adam: Because one of the few things that you and I have in common is we both care about him.

Nikki: Oh, my god! Stop! I cannot listen to that from you one more time. You don’t care about him. You only care about what he can do for you. Well, let me warn you again. If you try to undermine your father or hurt him in any way, I will destroy you. And I know that’s exactly what you’re trying to do.

Adam: Okay. You are so wrong, nikki.

Nikki: Walk away, adam. Before this turns really ugly.

Nick: I’m gonna be perfectly honest with you.

Victor: And I expect nothing less.

Nick: You know how vic was concerned about your wellbeing ever since you came back to newman?

Victor: Needless as that is.

Nick: Well, I’m as concerned as she is.

Victor: Son, what the hell are you talking about? Less than 24 hours ago, you and I were working out the heavy bag. You could hardly keep up with me. I’m in perfect physical health. What are you saying?

Victoria: Daddy, come on. It’s not your physical health that we’re worried about.

Nick: It’s what the stress of coming back here every day might be doing to your mind. The forgetting of things, the getting confused.

Victoria: Please, please, please, please don’t misinterpret this as an attack.

Nick: We just love you, dad. All right? So much.

Victoria: We love you every bit as much as you love us. You know perfectly well that if you thought one of us was taking on too much or the pressure was getting to us physically or mentally, you wouldn’t just speak up about it. You would move heaven and earth to do something about it.

Victor: This is your doing, isn’t it?

Danny: All right. So, how soon can I move out of the athletic club and into my son’s apartment?

Daniel: Soon. I mean, as fast as it’s ready and that shouldn’t take too long.

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. This is so exciting. I’m throwing the housewarming party.

[ Daniel laughing ]

Daniel: Sounds good. Sounds good. Just, uh, not, uh, not tonight, right?

Phyllis: Okay, well, that’s fine. Uh, another night. How about we just meet for drinks?

Daniel: Yeah. No, that– that sounds good. I’m– I’m down if– if you’re down.

Lily: Uh, yeah, sure. Why not?

Phyllis: Great. Good. Are you in?

Danny: Um, yeah, sure. No, I’m in. I’m in. Let’s– let’s do it.

Victoria: This is my doing? I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Victor: You don’t? Huh. You have somehow convinced your brother that I’m mentally unstable, that I’ve lost my marbles, that I can’t run my company anymore. Not because you’re concerned for me, it’s because you want to reclaim the ceo position here, right?

Nick: That’s not true, dad.

Victoria: That’s not true at all.

Victor: Of course, it’s true.

Victoria: No, it’s not! If it came down to a choice between protecting this company and protecting my father, I’m gonna protect you every single time. I promise you that. From the bottom of my heart.

Victor: And I promise something to both of you. I will no longer tolerate this backstabbing. I’m absolutely totally disappointed that you keep on trying to backstab me.

Adam: Okay. Well, let’s keep our priorities straight. Your hostility doesn’t phase me right now. I’m only concerned about my father.

Nikki: No, you are not. And as clever as you think you are, victor isn’t falling for this latest ploy of yours any more than I am.

Adam: Wait a minute. What is that supposed to mean?

Nikki: I am watching your every move. I’m not gonna let you break victor’s heart again.

Victor: Get the hell out of my office!

Mamie: Nate, I’m so happy that you were able to meet with me. I know how busy you are.

Nate: I always have time for you. Look, I’ve been wanting to take you out since you came back to town, right? Your– your return is a cause for celebration.

Mamie: Oh, I’m not sure that everyone would agree.

Nate: Oh, then that’s on them.

Mamie: Oh, you’re as sweet as you ever were. So, I’m curious about something, and I’m wondering if you might not be able to enlighten me.

Nate: I’ll do my best.

Mamie: What’s going on over at newman? Really?

Nate: Now, why would you ask that?

Mamie: I heard there was a shake up. Leadership changes, unrest, and some shuffling amongst the family hierarchy.

Nate: It’s true, victor is back at the helm. As for the rest, who told you that?

Mamie: I do my research. I keep my ear to the ground. Now tell me, why on earth would you want to be a part of that chaos?

[ Nate sighing ]

Nate: I had hoped we could enjoy our drinks a bit more before you start in on me again.

Mamie: About what?

Nate: Luring me away from newman enterprises. Convincing me to return to chancellor-winters.

Mamie: Families should stick together. Just ask victor.

Nate: Aunt mamie, lily and devon don’t want me anywhere near that company, all right? And I am very happy where I am.

Mamie: I thought that relations had thawed between the three of you, slightly.

Nate: I made advances with my cousins, but I’ve given up hope that they will ever fully trust me again.

Mamie: Time can work wonders. You will do it. I’m sure of it.

Nate: It’s not just the trust factor. I don’t want to be anywhere where my ideas aren’t valued. Where my mere presence is suspect. Where I’d always be waiting for some new accusation to be leveled against me.

Mamie: Well, what can I do to change your mind?

Phyllis: Well, something that you are concerned about, obviously.

[ Tucker sighing ]

Tucker: What do you want, phyllis?

Phyllis: I want to know what you’re doing. Did you connect up with mamie so you could take over your son’s company?

Jack: Kyle, everything okay? You seem a little off.

Kyle: Yeah, I’m fine. Um, not the best night, but it’ll pass.

Billy: Sorry to hear that.

Kyle: So, what’s going on here? What are you two talking about?

Jack: Billy and I were discussing the best response to tucker’s latest stunt, planting a listening device in his wedding gift for your mother and I.

Billy: That bonsai tree was supposedly meant to symbolize peace and harmony.

Kyle: I suggested destroying it, but you shot me down. Said you wanted to use it as a weapon against tucker.

Jack: That was my original thought, yes.

Billy: Now, we have another tool that we’re considering using.

Kyle: Oh, what’s that?

Jack: We came across some information on tucker’s recent past.

Billy: Damaging information.

Jack: Career-shattering information, possibly.

Kyle: Does tucker know you have this information?

Billy oh, he’s very aware we have it.

Jack: We tried to use it to have him back off, but his response was to double down and plant a listening device.

Kyle: Then, how damaging could it really be?

Jack: He’s calling our bluff, kyle.

Kyle: So, what’s the next step?

Jack: We drop the hammer on him and make that information public.

Billy: If we expose tucker, we take his power away.

Kyle: Or you could make him more vengeful. Ignite a war.

Nate: Why is it so important to you that I return to work with lily and devon?

Mamie: Well, now that I have a role to play at chancellor-winters, I wanna make sure that I do my part. I wanna smooth over any conflicts between you and your cousins and make sure that we bring the family back together.

Nate: Aunt mamie, you purchased a minor stake in the company. Not enough to wield significant power.

Mamie: Uh, don’t second guess what I can accomplish.

Nate: Hm, I’m sensing there is more to this.

Mamie: I promise, bringing you and lily and devon back together is my motivating factor. It’s tragic what’s happened between you. The way that you’ve drifted apart.

Nate: There’s a reason for that.

Mamie: You three were close at one point and promised to work together at chancellor-winters.

Nate: And that experience didn’t end well. A lot of the blame is on me, and I take full responsibility for the actions I made against them.

Mamie: So, you ended up at newman enterprises and in a very close relationship with victoria newman.

Nate: Victoria is one of the most impressive people I’ve ever met. Insightful, quick, always a step ahead. She and I share a synchronicity that I’ve never experienced at chancellor-winters. We’re aligned in our thinking and our priorities. Yes, uh, I’m sorry for the actions I made against my cousins. And there’s no doubt that I felt stifled trying to work with them. In the end, I had to make a move in order to… achieve my true potential.

Mamie: Is it possible that you just expected too much, too soon?

Jack: You’re right, kyle. It is a risk.

Billy: I hate him. More and more every day.

Jack: Well, there’s one of him and there’s more of us. As long as we stick together as a family, we can get through this.

Billy: Absolutely.

Kyle: Well, I guess we have tucker to thank for one thing. You two seem to have moved past your conflicts. You’re working as a team again.

Billy: We found common ground. Protecting our family and our family’s legacy is number one.

Jack: And I’m very grateful to have you with me on this.

Billy: Of course, jack.

Kyle: This is good news. I’m glad you two worked things out.

Jack: It’s for the best. Now is the time for us to pull together as a family.

Tucker: Why would you think I would make a move against chancellor-winters? Why would I do that to my son?

Phyllis: Why indeed?

Tucker: Phyllis, what is it you think you know?

Phyllis: Listen, I should tell you I did a deep dive into your online activities recently.

Tucker: Yes, of course you did. To bring something to jack. You’re so desperate for his approval now, aren’t you? You toy with him for years and then he rejects you. Ouch. Hm? Am I right?

Phyllis: Okay, well, you recently transferred some money into a company called lbb. Lbb. They’re out of detroit.

Tucker: Did I?

Phyllis: Yes, you did. Funny thing about it is, it’s mamie johnson’s company. She named it after her sister, lily bell barber.

Tucker: Oh, that’s so cute.

Phyllis: Oh, it’s cute, isn’t it? It’s not the best part, however.

[ Phyllis sighing ] Mamie just announced that she made a sizable investment into chancellor-winters.

Tucker: Yeah, I heard she wants to be more involved with family.

Phyllis: With you as benefactor.

Tucker: Benefactor? Huh.

Phyllis: You’re going after your son’s company, aren’t you? You’re using mamie. Your money went right through mamie, right into chancellor-winters. The plot thickens.

Tucker: You nailed it, phyllis.

Phyllis: Prove me I’m wrong.

Tucker: Why? You’re having so much fun. And I’m sure you need something to brighten your day after the mess you’ve made of your life.

Phyllis: You haven’t denied anything I’ve said, any of these investments.

Tucker: Phyllis, I have been making investments into financial groups for years all over the world.

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m very aware of that. It’s just the timing, the people involved. Jill, lily, devon, I just– I think it’s interesting.

Tucker: I think maybe you should find a hobby.

Phyllis: I think maybe I should talk to devon. See what he says. I’m sure he’d find it odd that you want to play an underhanded role in his company.

Tucker: You still haven’t answered my question.

Phyllis: There are so many. Which one?

Tucker: Well, you don’t really give a damn about devon or lily or chancellor-winters. The only person you give a damn about is yourself. So, why tell me all this? What are you after? How does this benefit you?

Nate: It’s true. I’ve gone through a period of transition over the years, personally and professionally. But honestly, I feel as if I’m finally where I belong.

Mamie: I– I hear what you’re saying.

Nate: Aunt mamie, I feel very happy at newman. I’m valued and respected there.

Mamie: Yeah, but honey, you will never be family there. You will always be the outsider.

Nate: But my opinion matters there. Victor knows what I bring to the company.

Mamie: Now, we both know how victor’s mind works. Even if you were to marry victoria, you would only be the in-law. They would throw crumbs at you to keep you fed, but you will never have true power.

Nate: And you’re saying I would at chancellor-winters? Look, lily and devon might, might forgive me someday, but you’re forgetting something. Someone else is involved. I know you dislike jill, but you keep talking as if she isn’t a part of the dynamic. She is the dynamic.

[ Mamie laughing ]

Mamie: Things change, honey.

Billy: We shouldn’t sit on this. We need to move quickly. I think we release the information we have on tucker asap.

Kyle: How fast?

Billy: First thing in the morning.

Jack: Uh, before we drop any bombs, I want to know we are prepared for the consequences.

Billy: We got this, jack.

Jack: I’m just talking about thinking it through overnight. I’m gonna see you first thing in the morning. This will be the first thing for us to discuss.

Billy: Sounds good. I’ll see you tomorrow.

Jack: Thank you, billy. Appreciate the help.

Billy: Of course.

Jack: So, can i count on your support and your discretion?

Kyle: Whatever you need.

Jack: Look, I am hoping that after we have tucker off our back, you and I can sit down and talk about the perfect spot for you at jabot.

Kyle: No. Dad, there is only one place that interests me and it’s very clear to me now, that’s not an option.

Jack: I know you want to be co-ceo. I’m just suggesting the two of us can work together to find something–

Kyle: Okay, no, dad, dad, dad, dad. It’s not going to happen. Let’s stop pretending that it can.

[ Diane and traci laughing ]

Traci: Good evening.

Diane: Oh, it’s my two favorite fellas.

Jack: Hi.

Diane: Hi. Kyle.

Kyle: Mom, aunt traci. Excuse me.

Traci: Well, that was frosty.

Diane: What happened?

Jack: Kyle still thinks I’m slighting him.

Phyllis: What do I want from you? Leave me alone.

Tucker: You came to me with this.

Phyllis: You harassed me in front of my children.

Tucker: And what did you expect? You’ve been trying to balance jack and me, playing both sides of the game. You kick a hornet’s nest, you’re gonna get stung.

Phyllis: I’m the hornet now. You got that? You pissed me off. Prepare to get stung.

[ Tucker laughing ]

[ Knocking on door ]

Tucker: Uh, do you mind?

Kyle: Why on earth would I consider joining forces with tucker mccall?

Audra: Because one way or another, he will get his hands on jabot. It’s what he does and– and there’s no one else in the world who’s better at it than him.

Kyle: What did tucker offer you?

Audra: The top job.

Kyle: Figures.

Audra: And you running it with me. Okay? Tucker prefers to stay on the sidelines. Hey, he wouldn’t be involved in the day-to-day. Hey, we could run jabot the way it should be run.

Kyle: And all I would have to do is betray my mother and father.

Diane: Kyle, look, don’t be mad at me for following you. We need to talk.

[ Diane sighing ] Your father’s worried about you.

Kyle: He’ll get over it.

Diane: Well, I’m sure you’re confused and frustrated about your place at jabot.

Kyle: Nope. I know what I want and I know I’m not going to get it. Dad’s not gonna replace me with billy.

Diane: Well, give it some time.

Kyle: Hm. Trust me. I saw dad and billy tonight, they are on a team. They’re on the same page. They both need this connection and they’re not about to let it go.

Diane: I’m sorry.

Kyle: Don’t be. I’m not upset. I just see things clearly now.

Diane: Kyle, your father loves you and he cares about you. He values your opinion. You have to know that.

Kyle: I do. And I understand dad wanting to back billy. It’s important for him to see his brother succeed. I get that. They’ve had a rocky past, and they deserve to work together in a better way.

Diane: If that’s possible.

Kyle: They clearly want it to work. And I think they can. It would be selfish of me to take it away from them.

Diane: It’s really– it’s really generous of you. So, what does this mean for your future?

Kyle: I, um, recently got an interesting offer, but I’m not sure if it’s the right move to make.

Diane: And this would be better for you than some other executive position at jabot?

Kyle: Yeah.

[ Diane sighing ]

Diane: I– I just– I hate to see you choose something like that over working with your family.

Kyle: Aren’t you gonna try to talk me out of it?

Diane: No, because you don’t want to hear that. And I know that you have to follow the path that you think is best for yourself.

Kyle: Thank you.

Diane: Yeah. As long as that path doesn’t lead you back to audra.

Phyllis: What are you doing here?

Audra: Interrupting, clearly. My apologies.

Phyllis: What kind of business would you have here so late at night?

Audra: Explain to me how that’s any of your business.

Phyllis: Let me tell you something. I know you. I’ve seen versions of you come and go in this town for years, okay?

Audra: And what am I?

Phyllis: A predator. You chew people up and you spit them out. You use people. It’s no shock that the two of you are close.

Audra: Hm, I’m sensing some hostility, are you?

Phyllis: Yep, I’m hostile considering you are the woman who ruined my daughter’s marriage.

Audra: Listen, phyllis, uh, when kyle came chasing after me, he was already very much done with summer. You know, after she lied to him repeatedly to protect you.

Phyllis: Watch who you piss off in this town. People have really long memories.

Tucker: Well, ladies, uh, I hate to interrupt, this is all very entertaining, but it’s getting late. Phyllis, thank you for stopping by, setting the record straight.

Phyllis: We have an understanding, right?

Tucker: For the time being. Yes.

Phyllis: Good.

Audra: She’s a treat. What kind of an understanding?

Tucker: Hello to you too.

Audra: You know, she was fired up before I even got here. What did you do to make her so feisty?

Tucker: Why is everyone up in my business tonight?

Audra: Well, I’m not thrilled to learn that you still have an ongoing connection to phyllis.

Tucker: Oh, you wouldn’t be trying to tell me who I can and cannot associate with, are you?

Audra: Phyllis loves to cause trouble and if she’s doing it to you, she’s doing it to me by association. You know, she could be a threat to our future plans.

Tucker: I’m sorry, did you say “our?” Have you changed your mind? Are you back on board? Are we a team again?

Nate: I don’t believe I was too ambitious at chancellor-winters, but that’s how devon saw it.

Mamie: Hm, that’s how the friction happened between you.

Nate: Partly. I had big ideas. I wanted to take the company as far as possible, but it didn’t align with devon’s plan.

Mamie: You felt you were overstepping.

Nate: He was conservative with his vision. Wanted to play it safe and lily was caught between us. As well as for the fact that the company also belonged to jill.

Mamie: Isn’t it odd that despite that pesky fact, it’s jill who’s the outlier?

Nate: What do you mean?

Mamie: Jill co-owns an entity that is run successfully by the winters. But she really can’t take any credit for anything at this point. It is all lily and devon.

Nate: Yeah, but I think lily and devon work closely with jill. She is very much a deciding vote.

Mamie: Imagine if I could succeed in getting lily and devon to hit reset and bring you back up into the mix. Oh, boy, you three could be a new power generation.

[ Nate laughing ]

Nate: I don’t see that happening.

Mamie: Don’t underestimate my ability to persuade people.

Nate: Oh, I would never.

Mamie: When I do succeed in making this happen, are you in? Still having bladder leaks? Find a bladder specialist : Are you okay?

Jack: You’re looking at me with those sympathetic eyes. This can’t bode well.

Traci: [ Laughs ] Well, between you and kyle, things were a little tense when diane and I walked in earlier. Were you arguing about something?

Jack: Kyle’s still upset with me for how things went down when he and summer separated. I told him he should step down at marchetti.

Traci: Oh, that must have been really difficult for kyle to hear. I mean, he was going through a painful breakup and I’m sure all he wanted was your support.

Jack: He has my support.

Traci: You’re frustrated with kyle too.

Jack: I feel like he’s losing his footing. He’s making bad decisions, ill-informed choices.

Traci: Okay, well, maybe, he’s just lashing out, you know. At you, at the world, at himself. We’ve all been there.

Jack: I don’t know, traci, I– I want what is best for my son. In this case, I don’t think I can give him what he wants.

Traci: Do you know what that is?

Jack: He wants his old job as co-ceo at jabot.

Traci: Oh, wow, what– kyle wants you to force billy out? Oh, my gosh, you’re right. That does put you in a really bad situation.

Jack: I cannot undercut billy when he’s finally making strides at jabot, I can’T. I– I don’t want to do that.

Traci: Of course not. But kyle, he’ll understand, right?

Jack: Yeah, I don’t know. I’m sure it’s hard to accept a lesser role in a family company where you were once in a position of power. Managing people, taking control–

Traci: Okay, I– I think maybe, for kyle, it’s not so much the role. I think it’s more how he feels he is viewed by his father. Both personally and in business. Think about it, jack. And what do you think kyle really deserves?

Kyle: Can you stop harping on me about my relationship with audra?

Diane: I’m sorry, I just don’t think she’s a good influence on you.

Kyle: First of all, things are over between us. Second, I’m an adult, it’s my life and you need to find a way to trust me.

Diane: I do trust you. And I know that you’re going to do what you want, I just– I just don’t understand why you’d want to be associated with someone like that.

Kyle: Like that? Mom, I can hang out with whoever I want to and I liked hanging out with audra.

Diane: Right, because she distracted you from the pain and anger you were feeling towards summer and everyone else around you.

Kyle: Or maybe, she let me process my stuff, my own way, and didn’t tell me how to feel.

Diane: I’m not trying to tell you how to feel.

Kyle: You know, audra is a smart, fun, who knows what she wants and how to get it. What is wrong with any of those traits?

Diane: Nothing, on the surface, but that isn’t the whole story with her.

Kyle: And you know that how?E, she let me process my stuff, my own way, and didn’t tell me how to feel.

Diane: I’m not trying to tell you how to feel.

Kyle: You know, audra is a smart, fun, who knows what she wants and how to get it. What is wrong with any of those traits?

Diane: Nothing, on the surface, but that isn’t the whole story with her.

Kyle: And you know that how? I mean, what else is there? She used to team up with tucker. So did you. She isn’t afraid to go after what she wants. Why should she be? I think I could learn a thing or two from audra.

Diane: What is that supposed to mean?

Kyle: Don’t worry about it, mom.

Diane: Kyle. Wait.

Audra: I’m very interested in pursuing jabot. I’d like to do whatever I can to help.

Tucker: Fantastic. What changed your mind?

Audra: Well, you were right. Working at newman media isn’t a solid, long-term bet. You know, there’s so much drama with no upside for me, now that I’m no longer in charge.

Tucker: ‘Cause victor promoted the misses, see? Do I know how to call it or what?

Audra: Yes, reporting to nikki is a drawback. You know, she still doesn’t trust me. I don’t think she ever will.

Tucker: It’s because she’s sharp.

Audra: And there’s more. You know, she hired this new assistant and the chick is straight out of all about eve. It’s infuriating. You know, she’s perfect, smart, charming, confident, but appears to know her place. It’s almost creepy.

Tucker: She sounds delightful.

Audra: She’s a climber.

Tucker: So are you.

Audra: At least, I’m transparent.

Tucker: Yeah, unless it doesn’t serve you. I think maybe, you’re jealous that there’s someone else vying for nikki’s respect.

Audra: Look, I have no energy or interest in a power struggle for nikki’s favor.

Tucker: Yeah, because you would lose.

Audra: Could you be any more supportive?

Tucker: Hey, you tell me we’re a team again. I’ll love you forever.

Audra: Yes, I’m over it. I’d rather be where I know I can have control.

Tucker: Okay. But you know, you’re gonna have to pull your weight if this is gonna work.

Audra: Don’t I always?

Tucker: So, kyle abbott, now that you’ve lured him back into your web, were you able to extract any information?

Audra: I have something better. You know, I think I’m this close to pulling him away from his family.

Tucker: What do you mean? Like a betrayal?

Audra: Yes.

Tucker: Don’t get ahead of yourself. You’re good, but that’s a big step for little kyle.

Audra: No, I– I made a strong case and an offer.

Tucker: What kind of an offer?

Audra: A top spot at jabot, alongside me.

Nate: Aunt mamie. Is this a move against jill? A coup to get her out?

Mamie: Nate, please.

Nate: What am i supposed to think? You said yourself that jill’s presence is unnecessary at chancellor-winters. Yet, the idea of getting rid of her is crazy?

Mamie: Oh, now, you’re just exaggerating. All I am saying is that jill will just lose interest, especially if chancellor-winters is soaring.

Nate: The company is valuable to her. She will fight to hang on to it, to keep her place.

Mamie: I know jill better than almost anybody. She likes to spend her money. She enjoys traveling.

Nate: And she can do that while running the company. In fact, she has been, successfully.

Mamie: Well, she hasn’t been married for a while. Maybe, all she needs to do is find a new man.

Nate: You’re not speaking in hypotheticals. You’re looking at options.

Mamie: She has had more than her time in the sun and she knows it.

Nate: There’s more at play here, I can feel it. What aren’t you telling me, aunt mamie?

Tucker: I think you may have overplayed your hand.

Audra: How so?

Tucker: Well, it’s one thing to reconnect with kyle for information.

Audra: Which I’ve successfully done.

Tucker: But it’s another to expect him to outright betray his family.

Audra: Don’t be so sure. Kyle is upset with how his father has been treating him.

Tucker: Hm, daddy doesn’t respect him enough, huh?

Audra: It goes deeper than that. You know, kyle feels pushed aside, slighted.

Tucker: Still, a little angst is not necessarily going to change his entire character, especially for someone as straight and narrow as him.

Audra: You’re forgetting something. You know, he’s ambitious, very much so. It’s the same ambition you and I have.

Tucker: Except we’re smarter.

Audra: Look, believe me, kyle is prime for a reset. It’s only a matter of time.

Mamie: Why, nate? Are you accusing me of something?

Nate: In a word? Yes.

Mamie: I thought you knew me better than that.

Nate: [ Laughs ] I’m sorry. Something isn’t adding up.

Mamie: Well, I don’t know why you think that. And you don’t either. You’re just stalling. You’re trying to avoid my question.

Nate: I’m doing that too.

[ Nate laughing ]

Mamie: Just tell me if you’ll at least consider my offer to come back to your own family’s company.

[ Nate sighing ]

Nate: I’m happy where I am.

Mamie: Now, that’s not a, “no way, aunt mamie. I’m not interested.” At least, tell me you’ll think about it.

Nate: Fine. I will think about it.

Mamie: Oh, thank you.

Nate: I’m still not at all convinced that you can change devon and lily’s mind about this. Sure, we’ve made progress, but I think we’ve gotten as close as we’ll ever be again.

Mamie: Then, I’ll just have to prove you wrong.

Jack: If I’m being honest, I’ve given kyle more than he deserves in business anyway. He shot to the top too quickly.

Traci: And you think this has had sort of a lasting impact?

Jack: Yeah, he didn’t spend the necessary time climbing, building his business skills.

Traci: Okay, so and that’s something that now you feel like he needs to do?

Jack: You know, lately, he and I have separated a bit and it’s made me reflect on his behavior, his– his past performance.

Traci: Distance certainly gives you fresh perspective.

Jack: I really hate to say this, there’s an arrogance there. There’s a sense of entitlement.

Traci: Oh, jack, is it really that extreme?

Jack: I don’t know. I just see a similarity, a cycle of events, a series of bad choices he makes, all of which I disapprove of. Teaming with victor is a perfect example.

Traci: Has he shown any remorse or regret?

Jack: You know, even that has been half-hearted. Perfunctory. It’s not like he’s earnestly searching for what went wrong.

Traci: Then, I think we have to go back to my original question. If you bear all of this in mind, what does kyle really deserve? I mean, where is his place at jabot?

Jack: I think the necessary step is for him to step back. To start from the ground up.

Traci: Even if he’s not happy about it?

Jack: Even if he’s not happy about it, I’m not gonna change my mind about this. It’s time for a reset. It is time for kyle to work his way up at jabot. To pay his dues.

[ Phone chiming ]

Audra: Give it here. You know, you’re right. I’ll never get through to kyle. Except clearly, I have.

Tucker: Ah, that can mean anything.

Audra: [ Laughs ] You can’t give me a win, can you?

Tucker: Proceed with caution.

Audra: Kyle wouldn’t set me up, if that’s what you’re thinking.

Tucker: And yet, it feels like a trap.

Audra: That’s how your mind works, not kyle’S. I’m in total control.

Tucker: Mm-hmm. I’d like to believe that. But I’m afraid you’re going into this with a blind spot.

Audra: Blind how?

Tucker: Have you fallen for this guy?

Audra: What?

Tucker: You’ve fallen before. This would be very stupid. Be a bad idea.

Audra: You don’t have to worry about me.

Tucker: ‘Cause the last thing I want is for our plans to be derailed because of feelings.

Audra: Are you sure it’s me we’re talking about here?

Tucker: Ashley does not factor into this.

Audra: I– I think she does. More than you’re willing to admit.

Tucker: Then, you’re wrong.

Audra: You know, she could still come back. Throw a wrench into everything. Put you off your game.

Tucker: Never gonna happen.

Mamie: Thank you for having a drink with me, nate.

Nate: It was my pleasure. You’re a force, that is for sure. And once again, you’ve given me a lot to think about.

Mamie: That’s a start.

Nate: Good night, aunt mamie.

Mamie: Good night.

[ Nate chuckling ]

Tucker: Miss johnson.

Mamie: Mr. Mccall.

Tucker: How are things in your world?

Mamie: Can’t complain.

Tucker: That’s good to hear. Well, you have a good night.

Mamie: You too.

[ Audra sighing ]

Audra: Remind me again why we ever stopped doing this?

Kyle: ‘Cause you fired me.

Audra: Oh. That. Have you forgiven me yet?

[ Kyle chuckling ] I have a proposition for you.

Kyle: Oh, I hope it’s as good as the last one.

Audra: I am changing the subject now.

Kyle: Okay. All right. I’m listening.

Audra: It’ll be risky.

Kyle: Oh. I can do risky.

Audra: And your first instinct will probably be to say no, but I want you to hear me out.

Kyle: Mm.

Audra: Can you do that?

[ Lock rattling ]

Billy: Hey.

Jack: Hey.

Billy: Got here as soon as I could. Where’s diane?

Jack: She and traci are out for the night. I want to fill you in before they get back.

Billy: Fill me in on what?

Jack: Tucker’s wedding gift. It appears the bonsai tree had a special added attraction. A listening device.

Billy: Are you kidding me? I mean, what am I thinking? Of course, he planted a listening device in a wedding gift.

Jack: Yep.

Billy: Where is it?

Jack: It’s in the study. Door’s closed, it can’t hear us.

Billy: Well, you were right about him.

Jack: Oh, yeah. He’s still coming after us. All those mea culpas added up to just what I thought. Garbage.

Billy: Well, I give him points for ingenuity. A plant in a plant.

Jack: Well, he took a page out of ashley’s playbook years ago. When we were at war, she planted a bug in, what did she call it? A truce gift.

Billy: So, she mentioned that somewhere along the way and tucker’s eyes lit up like it was a genius plan? Who– who tipped you off about this?

Jack: Surprisingly, phyllis.

Billy: Phyllis told you about it?

Jack: Well, she told me enough to put me on the right track.

Billy: Okay, well, right there, that is enough to be suspicious.

Phyllis: Okay. Look at this! Having dinner like a normal family. So normal.

Daniel: Just wanted to celebrate your first day at your new job.

Phyllis: Oh, goodness! Great. Ha! You’re paying, right? Because, you know, I’m not making the kind of money I’m used to.

Daniel: I know, I know, but you know, this is all about getting a clean start. Emphasis on the word “clean,” remember?

Phyllis: Yes. Exactly. And I will not let you down.

Daniel: No.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Daniel: That’s all either of us could ask for.

Phyllis: Good.

Summer: Okay, so tell me, how was it? How did it go today?

Phyllis: Oh, um… well, I’m in the it department, not running the it department, of course, but I’m in there.

Summer: That’s a change for you.

Daniel: You know we’re both rooting for you here, right?

Summer: Yeah. Exactly. I mean, that’s why we’re here. We’re here to celebrate this new you, and we really appreciate the fact that you’re willing to work your way back. I know that it’s not easy for you, but you can do it.

Phyllis: I know I can do it. I won’t let you down like I’ve said so many times.

[ Phyllis laughing ] Um, listen, I– I– I really feel like I’m on a roll. I really do. Um, I was able to find the money that stark hid and stole from me and I was able to pay back the insurance company, and that’s all good. And then, um, I’m working with my genius son. So, I feel really, really positive. I feel like all the bad karma is sort of slipping away from me and I won’t– I won’t get back into my, you know, dark ways. I– I just feel from here on out, it’s just smooth sailing. I’m not just accomplished.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

Phyllis: Okay.

Tucker: Good evening. Daniel.

Daniel: Tucker.

Tucker: Summer. And phyllis. I hope you don’t mind my saying you look particularly radiant tonight.

Phyllis: Thank you, tucker.

Tucker: You’re welcome. And here you are in the bosom of your family. Positively warms the heart. Enjoy your meal. Hey. Single malt, please. Neat. Make it a double.

Summer: Okay, what is going on between you and tucker now?

Phyllis: Nothing.

Summer: What was that?

Phyllis: What?

Summer: Mom, he was glaring at you. It was creepy.

Phyllis: That’s what he does, you know? He makes people uncomfortable. He likes it. It’s my turn in the barrel, I suppose.

Summer: Uh, he’s still doing it.

Phyllis: Okay, well, let’s ignore him. Here. Get your menu.

Daniel: I don’t think so.

Phyllis: Oh, daniel, what are you doing? What are you doing?

Daniel: I’m just gonna go have a little chat with him.

Phyllis: No, no, no, no, you are not. That’s what he wants you to do. Just ignore him. Sit down. Sit down. Daniel! Daniel!

Tucker: Hey, daniel. Can I buy you a drink?

Daniel: Oh, no, thank you. Um, just wanna know what’s with the glare.

Tucker: The what?

Daniel: The glare. Ever since my mom came in here, you’ve been glaring at her. Something wrong?

Billy: How many times does phyllis have to burn us before we realize that she can’t be trusted?

Jack: I am not arguing with that.

Billy: Okay, then why do you trust her now?

Jack: Because she’s given us usable information that’s proven to be true. She said that tucker bought this listening device and she was right.

Billy: Okay, but we don’t know what motivated her to share that information, jack. She could be working both sides against the middle. We’re talking about phyllis here, okay? Whoever’s the highest bidder wins her services. So, why don’t you tell me how much you paid for this?

Jack: Nothing.

Billy: I’m sorry, what?

Jack: She didn’t ask for a dime.

Billy: Wow. You must be a magician. First, you get adam newman to share dirt on tucker for free and now phyllis.

Jack: No, in the case of adam, I am all but certain it was transactional. I’ll do this for you if in the future you do it for me. With phyllis, I– a part of me is starting to believe she realistically wants to redeem herself.

Billy: Well, that is a stretch for me.

Jack: I know who she is, I know what she’s done, I’m not disagreeing. We need to monitor her carefully, but I think she’s getting tired of people crossing the street when they see her. And I know she is fed up with her kids losing their faith in her.

Billy: Okay, so what? She wants to be liked now?

Jack: Respected, and she knows she’s lost that.

Billy: Okay, let me just remind you. Phyllis was helping tucker frame me for embezzlement, okay? Again, it’s phyllis. And now if she went to tucker to help pay her debt, that means tucker holds something on her.

Jack: So, it’s your theory that phyllis is still working for tucker, that this tip of the planted device is just another misdirection to– to regain our trust?

Billy: Makes just as much sense as her suddenly developing a conscience.

Audra: So, how are things between you and your father?

Kyle: Oh, no, no, no. What about this risky proposition?

Audra: We’ll get to that. I was just curious if, you know, you’ve made any progress convincing him to dump billy and put you back in charge at jabot?

Kyle: It’s not looking likely at this point.

Audra: So, billy isn’t going anywhere?

Kyle: Apparently not. Just when I thought my dad had wised up and was ready to throw billy out, billy somehow convinced him otherwise.

Audra: And where does that leave you?

Kyle: Nowhere. My dad offered me some other position at jabot, one he can’t seem to pinpoint. But it wouldn’t matter even if he could, ’cause it’s an absolute non-starter for me.

Audra: You sound angry.

[ Kyle scoffing ]

Kyle: Hell yeah, I’m angry. I deserve the second-in-command position. I’ve done it before. I can’t imagine going back to jabot in any other position. And my dad… seems like deep down, he feels like I don’t have what it takes.

Audra: Well, he’s wrong. And I know it– it stings.

Kyle: Yeah, it doesn’t feel great when you feel like you’re being pushed out of your family. Anyway, why are we talking about this?

Audra: I was just curious to know where things stood with you and your family.

Kyle: Why?

Audra: Because I’m interested in you, kyle. Would you prefer I don’t ask you anything about your personal life?

Kyle: Uh, no. Don’t be mad.

Audra: I’m not. Trust me, if I ever get mad, you’ll know it.

Kyle: Hm. So, you ever gonna tell me?

Audra: Hm?

Kyle: This risky proposition you keep teasing me with?

Audra: Oh. So, I am– I’m teasing you, am I?

Kyle: Heartlessly.

[ Audra chuckling ]

Audra: Well, kyle, you know, I’ve been called many things in my life, but never a tease.

Kyle: Hm. Try killing bugs the worry-free way.

[ Both sighing ]

Audra: Mm. Good thing we got that out of the way.

Kyle: Oh, I hope not.

Audra: Mm. Don’t worry. We have all the time in the world now.

Kyle: I like the sound of that.

Audra: Me too. Now, no more sneaking around, no more looking over my shoulder to see if nikki approves.

Kyle: Mm.

Audra: It’ll be just us.

Kyle: That sounds really nice.

Audra: Mm-hmm. It does. So, are you ready?

Kyle: Wow. You’re insatiable.

Audra: I wasn’t talking about that. I am talking about the proposition I was gonna offer you.

Kyle: Ah, that. Finally.

Audra: Now remember, you promised me you wouldn’t say no right away.

Kyle: I did.

Audra: Okay. So… what would you say if I told you I could offer you a position at jabot?

Kyle: I would be confused. Which I am.

Audra: What if I could make that happen for you, kyle? You know, and I’m not talking just some, you know, middle management position. I’m talking about the job you want.

[ Kyle laughing ]

Kyle: Okay, then I guess I would have to ask, how you managed to pull off that little coup because last time I checked, my family still owns the company.

Audra: For now.

Kyle: Oh, you’re gonna make a move on jabot?

Audra: Well, it wouldn’t just be me. But I mean, I would be a part of it, yes.

Kyle: Okay. All right. Enough with the games. Where’s this headed?

Audra: I was getting to that.

Kyle: No, we are already there, audra. What are you asking me to do?

Audra: I want you to form an alliance with tucker and me.

Tucker: No, I think you got it wrong.

Daniel: Sure.

Tucker: I wasn’t glaring at her. I was just looking at her. I was looking at all of you actually. And, uh, I was jealous.

Daniel: Jealous?

Tucker: Yeah. Yeah, coming here and I– and I see you all together, you know, pulling together after everything that’s happened to you guys, and it made me think about the situation I’m in currently, which is not at all like that. It’s a beautiful thing to see and painful.

Daniel: Well, we have been working on things.

Tucker: Yeah. I can tell. Makes me wonder if I ought to be more forgiving of ashley.

Daniel: That’s not a bad idea. You could always hop on the next flight out to paris and, uh, go give it a try, right? What do you think?

Tucker: Maybe I should. Meanwhile, may I pick up your dinner tab?

Daniel: No, that’s–

Tucker: No, no. Please. I insist. It’s the least I can do. ‘Cause you really have, all of you, given me such hope. Please.

Daniel: I’ll think about it.

Phyllis: What did he say to you?

Daniel: Him? Oh, he just wants to pay our tab.

Phyllis: What?

Daniel: Yeah. Oh, and he admires how we’ve forgiven you.

Phyllis: Oh, he doesn’t care about that.

Daniel: Obviously, he doesn’t care about that. I’m just telling you what he told me.

Phyllis: Okay, well… he just is playing mind games. That’s what he’s doing. He’s trying to play mind games with us. Let’s not let him. But I’m happy to let him pick up the tab. It’s the least he could do.

Summer: What does that mean?

Phyllis: Excuse me?

Summer: Mom, you’ve been glaring at tucker ever since daniel walked over there. So, what’s going on? What does tucker owe you?

Phyllis: Nothing.

Summer: Nothing?

Phyllis: Nothing, summer, okay? Honestly, would you let up on me? I mean, not everything I do has, you know, something to do with collusion or conspiracy. Just let it go. Just relax.

Phyllis: I don’t owe tucker mccall anything. He doesn’t owe me anything. We’re square, okay? Uh, I’m nothing like him. He thinks I’m like him, but I am not at all. Is that understood?

Summer: Yeah.

Phyllis: Okay, is that understood, daniel?

Daniel: Maybe he was just being generous.

Phyllis: Oh, really? Ha! I doubt that. Sir?

Summer: Mom, what’s the– what are you doing?

Phyllis: Uh– uh, his presence has clouded our nice family gathering. Okay, let’s go elsewhere. All right? Can we have the check?

Waiter: Um, mr. Mccall has taken care of it.

[ Summer sighing ]

Phyllis: Seriously?

Daniel: Hm.

Phyllis: Let’s get outta here.

Summer: Wait, aren’t you gonna thank him?

Phyllis: Who?

Summer: The guy that just bought our dinner. Isn’t that how it usually works?

Phyllis: I’ll send him an email.

Summer: Mom, come on. It’s the polite thing to do.

Daniel: Yeah, I agree. I don’t see what could be so wrong about just saying thank you.

Phyllis: Sure. I would like to thank you for dinner… bottom feeder.

[ Tucker chuckling ]

Jack: I am not saying we should trust phyllis completely. She has burned us many times.

Billy: Not just that. She’s lied, cheated, and stolen from almost everyone in town. Has no problem sending them to jail.

Jack: No one has forgotten that, but we have to go back to what she’s doing for us now. I found the bug that tucker planted because phyllis told me about it.

Billy: I find it hard to believe that she did that out of the goodness of her heart.

Jack: I don’t care what her motivations are. As long as it benefits us, that’s what I give a damn about. I am nowhere close to forgiving phyllis for all that she put diane and kyle and summer through, but I am grateful that she helped us with this latest tucker thing.

Billy: I wonder what it is.

Jack: What?

Billy: This hold that tucker has on her and whatever she’s trying to do to pay him back. It’s gotta be exhausting living your life that way. Always on guard, not being able to relax and just live because she knows that those lies are gonna catch up with her. They always do.

Kyle: Why on earth would I consider joining forces with tucker mccall?

Audra: Because one way or another, he will get his hands on jabot. It’s what he does. And– and there’s no one else in the world who’s better at it than him.

Kyle: Was this what tonight was about?

Audra: What?

Kyle: The sex, the tease. Were– were you just playing me?

Audra: I don’t have to seduce you into coming on board. You either will or you won’T.

Kyle: You already know my answer.

Audra: And you promised me you’d think about it.

Kyle: Yeah, but I wasn’t expecting this.

Audra: Well, this is where we are, kyle. You know, and I think you at least owe it to yourself to hear me out.

Kyle: What did tucker offer you?

Audra: The top job.

Kyle: Figures.

Audra: And you running it with me, okay? Tucker prefers to stay on the sidelines. He wouldn’t be involved in the day-to-day. Hey, we could run jabot the way it should be run.

Kyle: And all I would have to do is betray my mother and father.

Audra: What have they done for your career, kyle? Jack fired you and diane stood aside and allowed it to happen.

Kyle: Audra, my mother wants me back at jabot.

Audra: Where? In some subservient position where you get to report to billy? Is that really what you want?

Kyle: Okay, this is insane.

Audra: No, it’s not. It’s an opportunity… for you and for us. And you haven’t exactly said no yet either. If you’re taking an antidepressant restless will continue.

Kyle: You know, what makes you think I won’t go straight to my dad and warn him?

Audra: Jack and billy already know that tucker is coming after them. It’s no big secret. So, fire away. You know, it compromises me, but I can take it.

Kyle: Well, I’m not participating in this.

Audra: Then, why are you still here? Why didn’t you slam out the door the minute I laid this out for you? Because you know this makes sense. Look, all I’m asking you to do is to think about yourself for a change. What’s best for kyle? Instead of settling for whatever crumbs your family throws at you. Your father, he had his success. A great career. Okay, now– now, would it really be the end of the world for him to step back and see his son take the reins? Yeah, isn’t that how family dynasty survive?

Kyle: No. No, no. What you are proposing will blow up our family dynasty.

Audra: Not if you were on board. Hey, not if you and I took over that family business, okay? And made it vital and exciting again.

Kyle: You’re not family.

Audra: Well, you know, jack clearly doesn’t wanna give you the chance. Tucker and I can. And it would be the mistake of a lifetime if you turned it down.

Jack: I wanna believe, at the end of the day, phyllis is not going to allow herself to be forced by tucker to work against us.

Billy: It’s a lot of hope, but not a whole hell of a lot of history there, jack. ‘Cause this is phyllis, again, right? She’s gonna take care of herself. And I’ve seen nothing to believe that she’s changed her ways.

Jack: I have seen something.

Billy: Really? What is that?

Jack: She deeply cares what her children think, especially summer.

Billy: That’s why she lied to them about being dead?

Jack: Billy, she’s trying to win them back, she knows she played a large role in ruining summer’s marriage to kyle. She also knows if tucker is making a play for jabot, that is going to impact marchetti, which means it will affect summer’s livelihood. Phyllis does not wanna do anything to hurt her daughter. That is to our benefit.

Tucker: Right back at you, my love. I… I happen to know that you’ve been feeding jack information about me.

Phyllis: Who told you that?

Tucker: Ah, phyllis, please, don’t insult my intelligence. Just tell me what it is. What is it you think you have on me?

Phyllis: I have plenty on you.

Tucker: You don’t really think you can play both sides of this game, do you?

Phyllis: Well, if I were to play sides, I definitely wouldn’t be on yours, okay? Our business is concluded.

Tucker: Normally, I would agree with you, you’re more trouble than you’re worth, but that was before you sold me out to the abbotts. I’m very upset about it.

Phyllis: I think you’ll get over it.

Tucker: You’re gonna have to make it up to me.

Phyllis: When hell freezes over.

[ Tucker chuckling ]

Tucker: That can be arranged.

Phyllis: Tucker, I don’t owe you anything. We’re done doing business together. I think you’re a little paranoid.

Tucker: You know what? Maybe, you’re right.

Jack: Phyllis has something on tucker.

Tucker: You wanna try again?

Phyllis: Hm. You heard a conversation.

Daniel: What could possibly be keeping her over there right now? What kind of connection could the two of them possibly have?

Summer: You know, let’s– let’s go find out.

Tucker: Meet me in my room in 15 minutes. It was my pleasure. Absolutely my pleasure to do for you all. I was telling daniel that, um, seeing you all together like that has given me renewed hope. Maybe ashley and I can, uh, resolve our differences and reunite as well. So, I gotta go, but, uh, enjoy the rest of your evening, bye.

Daniel: Have a good night.

Tucker: You too.

Phyllis: What?

Daniel: Just thought it was taking an awful long time to say thank you.

Phyllis: Tucker goes on and on, you know–

Summer: Okay. Enough. Mom!

Phyllis: I was just saying that tucker goes on and–

Summer: Stop with the lies, okay? Just tell us the truth. If you ever want us to believe anything that you say ever again, you and tucker, you’re not a good combination. Billy: We know for a fact that tucker is gunning for us, and that listening device is even further proof that he is not backing down. And that’s even with us threatening to go public with the damning information that he’s involved in a cover-up, jack.

Jack: He doesn’t know, but he’s given us some power.

Billy: I don’t see that.

Jack: Tucker doesn’t know that we’re onto him about that listening device. We could use it to misdirect him. Give him bogus information that will chase him out in the open.

Billy: I– I don’t think that’s gonna work, okay? Tucker’s a lot of things, but he’s not dumb. Coming up with a phony story in the hopes that he’s listening to it? He’s gonna see that in a heartbeat.

Jack: Yeah, you’re probably right. What is our alternative? You have any ideas?

Summer: Mom, it’s really not a hard question. Something’s going on between you and tucker. Tell us what it is.

Phyllis: Okay. Listen. I don’t wanna lie to you guys ever, ever again, so, um, I’ll let you know. So, jack asked if I could help him find out some information about tucker and I agreed.

Summer: To do what?

Phyllis: To help jack.

Daniel: How specifically did you help him? What did you have to do?

Phyllis: Hacking.

Summer: Hacking?

Phyllis: Yeah, I– I hacked– I hacked into– I hacked into tucker’s computer and found out that he recently purchased some listening devices along with some software. Um, my suspicion is that he was gonna use it against the abbotts and I told jack.

Daniel: Mm-hmm, and I bet tucker found out.

Phyllis: Well, yeah, he found out, and so, then, he wanted me to help him in turn, but I absolutely said no.

[ Daniel laughing ] You know, tucker is always trying to work an angle. But that’s not gonna work with me. Tucker mccall has met his match and he knows it. What? What’s wrong? I did the right thing.

Summer: Oh, my gosh.

Phyllis: I did the right thing, no, no, no. I helped the abbotts. Tucker’s a bad guy. He’s a shark. I’m the good guy. I help them defend themselves against tucker mccall. What’s wrong with that?

Summer: Mom, you’ve made yourself a target of tucker’s now, again.

Phyllis: So what? I can handle that.

Daniel: No, no, no. That’s not the point. Yeah, you were helping the abbotts, okay, that’s a good thing, but you were working a scam to do it.

Phyllis: Okay, well, I didn’t have any other options.

Daniel: Did you even consider any other options?

Phyllis: Okay, such as?

Daniel: Such as doing nothing.

Phyllis: Ugh, I already told you.

Daniel: No, you told me. You told me you’re on the side of the angels, I get it. Well, why couldn’t you just say no to jack and to tucker? Why couldn’t you just tell him you don’t wanna be a part of their little stupid game?

Phyllis: Daniel, daniel, it’s a little more complicated than that.

Daniel: Is it?

Phyllis: Yes, it is. Okay, what would you suggest I should have done? You tell me.

Daniel: What would I suggest?

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Daniel: I don’t know. Focus on yourself. Focus on your job. Maybe focus on loving your family. Let that be the thing that turns jack’s opinion around about you. But no, you–

Phyllis: Jack’s opinion?

Daniel: Yes, jack’s opinion. You seem to care what he thinks. You’re helping him, right? You see a shortcut though and you gotta take it.

Phyllis: I can’t have this conversation with you guys anymore.

Summer: No, mom, all that daniel is trying to suggest is that maybe, there was a less sketchy way to handle things.

Phyllis: There wasn’T. I would’ve appreciated a less sketchy way, but there was not. And I swear to you, I did the right thing right now. I did the right thing, but it’s not enough for you guys. So, you know what? I don’t even know what to say.

Daniel: Okay, now, you are overreacting.

Phyllis: No, I’m not!

Daniel: And you’re not being fair.

Phyllis: Oh, you’re not being fair. I’m being completely fair. I am trying to do the right thing, but it’s not enough for you guys. I am over this. Seriously. I truly, truly give up.

[ Summer exhaling ] Choosing a treatment for your chronic migraine –

Daniel: Mom.

Phyllis: Hm?

Daniel: I am sorry.

Phyllis: And why would you apologize to me? I’m a lifelong criminal, a lifelong screw-up. I don’t deserve an apology.

Summer: Look, we recognize that you– you actually have been trying and maybe– maybe we haven’t been totally fair to you today.

Phyllis: There’s no maybe. You have not been fair.

Daniel: Okay, look, we questioned your motives and your methods. That has kind of become a knee-jerk reaction for us and it is not okay. It’s not cool.

Summer: You’re right about the jack thing. We just really hate that it’s put you back on tucker’s radar. That’s it, okay?

Daniel: Yes.

Phyllis: Okay, listen, I– I want you two to know that I can handle that, trust me.

Summer: Okay, but mom, just don’t do anything stupid.

Phyllis: Me?

[ Daniel chuckling ] Listen, okay, guys. I know I have a long way to go before you trust me again. I know that. I want you guys to give me the benefit of the doubt, please, and by the way, I’m far from stupid.

[ Phone chiming ] Oh. Uh-oh.

Daniel: What?

Phyllis: Um, I have some unfinished work. Oh, I have to go back to the office. Um, you know, my boss, he’s a real stickler, so… well, um, hey, maybe, we can get together tomorrow and finish our celebration, and hopefully, it won’t get interrupted.

Daniel: That would be nice. It sounds like a good plan.

Phyllis: Okay.

Daniel: You have a good night.

Phyllis: Okay. Good night. Hey, today’s the beginning of my new life.

Summer: Okay.

Phyllis: Yay!

Summer: Night, mom.

Daniel: So?

Summer: I don’t know. I really just wish that we could have a night with our mom that was just a normal night with our mom.

Daniel: Think that’s ever gonna happen?

Summer: I keep wanting to believe her and she keeps pulling the rug out from under me again, so.

Daniel: So, you think there’s more to the story?

Summer: It’s our mom, daniel. There’s always more to the story. And it usually doesn’t have a happy ending.

Jack: What’s your plan?

Billy: We stop playing games with tucker. He enjoys it too much. We don’t give him the satisfaction.

Jack: How?

Billy: We drop the hammer on him. We release everything we have out into the public. He’s gonna come after us and come after our company, that’s fine, but we release that dirt and we show him that we are not backing down.

Jack: Hey, kyle.

Kyle: Hey, dad.

Jack: Hey, you okay?

Kyle: Um, sure, yeah, dad, everything’s fine.

Jack: You don’t seem fine. What is it? What’s wrong?

Tucker: Right on time. Come on in. I’m happy you’ve seen the wisdom of falling into line.

Phyllis: Mm, is that why you think I’m here, tucker?

Tucker: What other reasons could there be?

Phyllis: Well, um…

[ Both laughing ] You’re about to fall into line. I, once again, am holding the cards.

Tucker: Oh, brother. This should be amusing.

Phyllis: Okay, well, let me tell you, um… we’ll see if you find it amusing. I, uh, was doing a deep dive into all of your spy purchases recently for jack, and, um, I came across a really, really interesting connection to mamie johnson.

Tucker: And that’s supposed to mean something to me.

Phyllis: Well, maybe, not to you… but it’s gonna mean something to lily and devon. It’s gonna mean something to jill abbott. That you and mamie johnson are silent partners.

[ Phyllis laughing ] Oh. Let me see. Let me see. Let me see. Well, I once again, am in the driver’s seat and I’m sure this is a secret that you don’t wanna let out. So… how should we proceed?

Daniel: What are you gonna do with your place? Do you have to rent it out?

Heather: Well, my dad really likes it there. So, I’m thinking he’ll want to move into my apartment for now. And he’s been in a hotel the whole time. I feel like he’ll really appreciate an actual home for a change.

Daniel: That’s good. It’s smart. You’ll have somebody to keep an eye on the place while you figure out what to do with it.

Heather: Although, I haven’t asked him lately how it’s going with christine.

Daniel: Are they getting along?

Heather: I don’t know. I’ve stayed out of it.

Daniel: Probably smart.

Heather: Mm-hmm. Anyway…

Daniel: You know, when you come back to genoa city, I might have a place of my own.

Heather: You’re looking for an apartment.

Daniel: I am. I have been keeping an eye on the listings, seeing if there’s anything I might want to rent or possibly buy.

Heather: So, you’re really settling back here.

Daniel: Yeah. I love the athletic club.

Heather: Mint on the pillow every night.

Daniel: Also, can’t beat the room service. But I don’t know, I just I– I feel like I need something more permanent, especially with lucy. You know, when she’s here, I’d like for her to have a space of her own. A room where she can put some of those books, put some of those stuffed animals.

Heather: Yeah, that sounds great. I hate to ask because you’ve already offered to organize lucy’s school, but, uh, when you’re out there looking at real estate…

Daniel: You want me to keep an eye out for you too?

Heather: Yeah. If you wouldn’t mind.

Daniel: It’s not a problem at all.

Heather: Okay. So, just a rental for now. Something that works for lucy and me.

Lily: Hi. Sorry. Did I hear? Are you moving back to genoa city?

Nikki: All right, claire. I think that should do it. Once you finish up those last few things, you can go home. First day for you.

Claire: It’s been wonderful. Thank you, nikki.

Victoria: I’m sorry to interrupt.

Nikki: Oh, no, it’s fine. I want you to meet my new assistant, claire grace.

Victoria: Oh, nice to meet you, claire.

Claire: It’s an honor to meet you, miss newman. I’ve followed your career. Everything you’ve accomplished, it’s so impressive. Brash and sassy, your brainchild is… sorry. Fangirling in the office is probably frowned upon.

Victoria: Uh, but doing your research is always a good thing.

Claire: I’m just– I’m so impressed by everything you’ve done here at your family company. I met your father earlier. He must be so proud.

Victor: All right. Your turn.

[ Nick grunting ]

[ Nick grunting louder ] Boy, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy. Are you pissed off with someone or what?

Nick: I was just blowing off some steam.

Victor: Uh-huh. Now, usually, you go to– to the athletic club. What are you doing here?

Nick: It’s just, uh, old habits, dad. Yeah, I saw adam earlier. He said you confused the two of us. You called him nicholas.

Victor: Nonsense.

Nick: Well, why would he lie? I mean, it’s adam, but still.

Victor: I don’t know. He misheard me.

Nick: All right, cool. It’s just a slip-up. No big deal.

Victor: Yeah, it just– just he misheard me. As simple as it is, okay?

Nick: All right. You’re up.

Victor: And… why would he say nonsense like that?

Nick: I don’t know. Let’s go.

Adam: Sally, it’s me.

[ Sally sighing ]

Sally: Go away, adam.

Adam: Sally, please. Five minutes, that’s all I ask.

Announcer: Additional sponsorship provided by…

[ Sally sighing ]

Sally: What is it?

Adam: I– I– I wanted to make sure sure that you were all right.

Sally: No, you didn’T.

Adam: What does that mean?

Sally: You were just looking for an excuse to follow me. But look, I’m– I’m okay, all right? So– so, you can leave.

Adam: You were pretty upset earlier at the coffee house. This is about our kiss, isn’t it? About nick’s reaction? Is that why he wanted to deck me in the face when I saw him earlier?

Sally: Okay. You’re not hearing me, adam? Just goodbye–

Adam: Listen to me. I heard you tell chloe that you might not have a business anymore. Do you really think nick is gonna pull funding over a kiss?

Sally: He could, yeah.

Adam: He would never do that to you. Over a kiss? That is so unfair.

Sally: Well, it’s his money. It’s his call.

Adam: Did you tell him that it was my fault? That I kissed you?

Sally: It doesn’t matter anymore, adam? All right. It’s done.

Adam: You know that? He said that he was gonna pull the plug on your business?

Sally: Oh, my god, just stop.

Adam: Listen, do you really think he’s gonna end your business over something that’s my fault?

Sally: Well, he’s gonna end our relationship over it. So, yeah, he could.

Adam: Oh, wow. I– I could talk to him.

Sally: Please don’T. Honestly, just stay away.

Adam: Look, it’s gonna work out, okay? Nick’s gonna– he’s gonna get over it. You sure you’re gonna be okay?

Sally: Yes, of course, I’m gonna be okay, adam. I’m always okay. All right? Everyone just needs to stop treating me like I’m some fragile flower. Like I don’t know, some breeze is just gonna blow me over and uproot me and I’m never gonna recover. Like I don’t know my own mind and I can’t control my own actions because that is not who I am. And you, of all people, should know that. You know the challenges I faced. I told you how I grew up.

Adam: Yes, I do know that.

Sally: I’m not looking for a hero, adam. And I’m done with people thinking that they know what’s best for me.

Nikki: All right, claire, I’ll see you in the morning.

Claire: Absolutely. Thank you. It has been a pleasure to meet you, miss newman.

Victoria: Um, nice to meet you too, claire. So, how is claire working out? You seem to be pretty sure that you found the perfect assistant.

Nikki: Well, today was just her first day, but I think she’s gonna be just fine.

Victoria: That’s great, mom.

Nikki: It is. But I don’t want to talk about my assistant. I want to talk about you. What’s going on?

Victoria: What do you mean? There’s nothing going on.

Nikki: Victoria.

Victoria: Mom, I’m fine.

Nikki: I don’t believe you. You seem rattled. Something has happened. And you know, I’m just gonna keep pushing you until you tell me, so what is wrong?

Claire: Oh, my god.

Nate: No damage.

Claire: I’m so sorry.

Nate: No damage to your tablet.

Claire: Oh, god. Totally my fault. I need to learn that walking while reading is not considered multitasking.

Nate: That is good advice.

Victor: Well, do you remember our first boxing lesson?

Nick: Yeah. It’s when I got back from boarding school in switzerland.

Victor: That’s right. My god almighty. Whoa.

Nick: You told me fighting is not always the best way to solve a conflict.

Victor: Did you find that to be true or what?

Nick: Sometimes, I like fighting.

Victor: Like father, like son.

Nick: Hey, how’s it going being back at the office?

Victor: I love it. Stress and all. I love it. Yep.

Nick: Can you promise me something? That you will not overdo it?

Victor: I promised your mother the same thing, okay? The only thing I regret is that you’re not at the company with me.

Nick: Yeah, I get it. Um, I’m enjoying working with sharon. I think it’s the best place for me right now.

Victor: Yeah, but I honestly think you should be with your family. You should be with the company.

Nick: But I don’t know if it’s best for me.

Victor: Well, but look at– look at how happy your sister is at newman media.

Nick: Um, mom’s the one who’s at newman media.

Victor: Oh.

Nick: Yeah. You made mom ceo of newman media. Vic’s still at the parent company, working as your second-in-command.

Victor: Oh, yeah. Right. Huh. (Man) mm, hey, honey.

Heather: Uh, daniel didn’t tell you? We– we– we talked about it a couple of days ago.

Daniel: We did. However, you didn’t sound all that sure of yourself.

Heather: I– I wasn’t, I– I really– I just made this decision yesterday.

Daniel: I didn’t really feel like it was my place to say anything until heather made up her mind.

Lily: Yeah, no, it makes sense. Um, what made you wanna move back here?

Heather: Lucy hates to be away from her dad, so that was probably the– the biggest determining factor. And then also, after I picked up phyllis’s case and I spent time back here, I realized how much I missed living in the states and genoa city.

Lily: Yeah. But what about your job in portugal?

Heather: Oh, I don’t have a long-term contract there. I made that a stipulation when I started the job and we were moving to a new country. I didn’t– I didn’t want to get trapped.

Lily: Yeah, smart.

Daniel: Yeah. You know, I did mention to heather that you might be looking for someone in your legal department at chancellor-winters. Um, I mean, didn’t you mention that somebody left so they could go run the east coast division?

Lily: It’s not finalized. Um, are you sure you wanna do in-house counsel? Because I thought you liked litigations. ‘Cause I mean, you could go to like a local firm or the D.A.’S office.

Heather: The courtroom isn’t exciting me as much as it used to. And I think I would really enjoy the detailed work of contracts and the excitement of negotiations.

Lily: Right. Yeah, I mean, we are actually down a couple of attorneys.

Heather: I can send you my resume and my recs.

Lily: Well, hold off because I mean, we might have some applications in and I don’t wanna waste your time.

Heather: Yeah. Yeah. Understood. I would enjoy an in-house position. I think it would exercise some new muscles for me.

Daniel: Probably mean more time with lucy.

Heather: Definitely a positive.

Lily: Yeah. Well, I’ll– I’ll look into it for sure.

Heather: That is truly fantastic, lily. Thank you.

Claire: Claire grace. I work for nikki newman. I was at the abbott party, but you probably don’t remember. It was a really quick introduction.

Nate: Yes, I remember now. My apologies. I had a lot of family stuff going on that day, so everything is kind of a blur. Nate hastings. Nice to formally meet you.

Claire: Likewise.

Nate: And I’m glad I didn’t break your tablet.

Claire: That would have been totally on me. But I’m glad it’s still in one piece as well.

Nate: If you’re like me, you’ve got most of your life on that thing.

Claire: Including everything I have to handle for mrs. Newman this week. It would have been pretty bad to lose that on my first day.

Nate: Indeed. So, how are you settling in at newman media?

Claire: It’s amazing. I’m so excited to be here. You know how people talk about finding their dream job?

Nate: And you usually don’t believe them.

Claire: But believe me, I’ve found it. I mean, people have been so nice, so welcoming. The company’s big, but there’s this great sense of togetherness. It’s so down to earth. I heard there’s even an assistant softball league.

Nate: That there is. Do you play?

Claire: No, but I’ll learn. Are you kidding?

Nate: Okay. Well, I am glad to hear you’re settling in at newman media. And it’s very nice meeting you.

Claire: Same.

Nate: I’ll see you around.

Claire: Yeah. Take care.

Victoria: I’m not rattled exactly. I’m– I’m just not having the best day. I had a couple of rough conversations with nicholas.

Nikki: Let me guess. You tried to convince him to come back to newman.

Victoria: We discussed it.

Nikki: And he turned you down.

Victoria: Yes.

Nikki: Well, it’s disappointing, but not surprising.

Victoria: There’s something going on with him. Something with adam.

Nikki: Isn’t there always?

Victoria: Well, I couldn’t get him to talk to me about it.

Nikki: I’ll bet you sally has something to do with it.

Victoria: Oh, yeah, I thought the same thing too. But I’m also worried about dad and the stress of him being back here, now more than ever.

Nikki: Why is that?

Victoria: I ran into adam earlier and he told me something disturbing. He told me that dad called him nicholas by mistake and when adam tried to point it out, dad got angry.

Nikki: Yeah, I know. I heard. Your father dismissed it with me as well. But you know, I mean, we’ve all done that kind of thing. I want to know why adam felt the need to tell you about it.

Victoria: I’m not sure.

Nikki: He’s trying to unnerve you.

Victoria: Mom, you know what? You’re right. Calling someone the wrong name once, it’s– it’s not a big deal, but it’s just very unlike dad. And I’m worried that the stress is really starting to get to him like we feared. And, I mean, I know you’re worried as well. I can see it in your eyes.

Nate: Nikki. Victoria. Sorry to interrupt. Uh, we have that conference call in ten minutes.

Victoria: Oh, that’s right. I was just telling mom what you saw earlier between dad and adam.

Nate: No, victor was just a little confused. That’s all. I don’t think we need to worry about it.

Nikki: Neither do I. I think adam was just grasping at straws for his own reasons. Whatever the hell those could be. I mean, you know how he is.

Nate: Adam’s not above trying to use something like this.

Nikki: Well, I don’t think there’s a reason for any of us to overreact.

Victoria: Maybe. Or maybe we’re not reacting enough. Hi. I use febreze fade defy plug.

Victor: Son, I know who holds what position in my company. I mean, your sister is my right hand and your mother runs newman media.

Nick: Yeah, but you said…

Victor: I said what?

Nick: Uh, nothing.

Victor: Okay. But your sister seems to have a hard time. She needs to accept the fact that she’s no longer in charge.

Nick: You think she’s finally come around?

Victor: Yeah, I think so. Yeah, I think she’s happy with it. With her job and that goes for adam as well. He is, I think, very happy being nate’s assistant.

Nick: Well then, you got what you wanted. I’m glad it’s working out.

Victor: And then there’s you. Let me ask you something. When you were pounding the heavy bag before, you seemed to do it with an enormous ferocity. I mean, what– was that meant for someone? Did you envision someone’s face on that heavy bag?

Adam: Look, I– I would never call you fragile. I mean, you are one of the strongest, bravest, most independent people that– that I’ve ever known, okay? You’re right up there with my mother.

Sally: Okay, please don’t do that, okay? Don’t bring your mother into this, all right? Because it’s just a way to distract me.

Adam: Sally. That’s not what I’m trying to do.

Sally: Really? Okay. Because every single time I think about hope, I think about all the wonderful things that you’ve told me about her and– and how you grew up and what you went through as a kid and how it’s made you into the person you are today and somehow, it lets you off the hook.

Adam: Okay. It- it– it wasn’t that deep, sally, or that conniving. I just was… never mind, okay? I’ll– I’ll keep my– uh, my mother out of this. All that I was trying to say is that I wish that I had half the resilience that you have. But even the strongest people in the world, they need to vent every once in a while, okay? It’s not healthy to keep everything inside.

Sally: Yeah. Except for I’m not, okay? The anger is boiling right at the surface along with frustration and annoyance.

Adam: Good. Sure. Yes. Sure. Come on.

Sally: You really want me to let it all out?

Adam: Yes.

Sally: Really? Are you ready for that? Because you do know that you’re the one I’m mad at, right?

Adam: Come on. Let me have it. But promise me that you’re not gonna hold back.

Heather: Well, I have to get back to packing and head to the airport.

Daniel: Don’t forget.

Heather: The brownies. Yes, thank you. Lucy, she would never forgive me.

Daniel: You’re welcome.

Heather: And a sincere thank you for supporting my decision.

Daniel: I’m all for anything that’s gonna get me more time with my daughter.

Heather: We can all be a family again.

Daniel: We always will be.

Heather: You’re right. It doesn’t matter where we all live, but it is definitely a bonus to be in the same town.

Daniel: Yeah. Look, I’ll work on school and trying to find an apartment for you. And I’ll let you know what I hear.

Heather: I appreciate it. And lily, uh, thank you so much for looking into your legal department to see if there might be room for me.

Lily: Yeah, of course. I will get on it tomorrow.

Heather: Okay.

Daniel: Have a safe flight.

Heather: Thanks. Okay, bye, guys.

Lily: Bye. It seems like her mind is made up.

Daniel: It sure does. You know, I spoke with her about it before. She seemed like she was on the fence.

Lily: So you’re, uh, really okay with this?

Daniel: With heather and lucy moving back to genoa city permanently?

Lily: Yeah.

Daniel: Yeah. Why wouldn’t I be? – It’s payback time.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. When prices and appliances click,

Lily: So, is that why you seemed off this morning?

Daniel: Yeah, I didn’t want to get my hopes up about lucy coming back.

Lily: Well, I mean you still could have told me. Did you think I was gonna have a problem with it?

Daniel: No.

Lily: ‘Cause you know, I want you to be close to lucy, right?

Daniel: I know. I didn’t want to ruin a romantic evening by talking about my ex.

Lily: Well, that’s a smart move. But still…

Daniel: So, you are worried?

Lily: No, no, no, not like that. I don’t think that you’re gonna, you know, get back together with heather.

Daniel: Because that’s not an issue. You know that, right?

Lily: No, I know. I’m just worried that you guys being in the same town and co-parenting so closely might bring up old stuff for you.

Daniel: Stuff like what?

Lily: I don’t know. I mean, you know, it could bring up old patterns or– or, you know, you could remember how bad things were and then you feel guilt and regret.

Daniel: Okay, okay. Look, I am not gonna spiral again, that is for sure. And I hate that you feel like you have to worry about me, but I do appreciate you expressing your concerns. I’m just– I’m in a much better headspace than I was when I left savannah and a lot of that is because of you.

Lily: Oh, really?

Daniel: Yes, really. We have a solid relationship. You support me. I support you. Right?

Lily: Yes.

Daniel: My career is great right now. I– I like the path I’m going on. It– it feels like it’s right. My demons, they have been exorcised.

Nick: Why do you think I was picturing someone’s face on the heavy bag? You know what? I know you’re not gonna let this go, so, um, earlier today, I made the decision to not put adam through a wall. But I needed to do something. So, my reward was the heavy bag.

Victor: What has he done to get you so worked up?

Nick: What? Like lately? Our whole history isn’t enough?

Victor: Hm. In other words, you don’t believe him when he says he’s gonna change his ways.

Nick: Not even a little bit. Unlike you, I can’t keep giving him chances. I’m done with it. I think he destroys everything he touches. I mean, he absolutely ruined my relationship with sally.

Victor: Hm. Sorry to hear that.

Nick: Are you? Because I feel like you’ve been waiting to hear that.

Victor: My son, let me be very honest with you. I think you’re too good for her.

Nick: Please don’t do that. All right? She’s a much better person than you ever give her credit for. And this isn’t even about her. This is about adam. Adam doesn’t deserve sally. Never has. Not after the way he broke her heart, but he did it to sharon. He’s gonna do it to sally.

Victor: What’s he doing to her?

Nick: Just this love bombing, obsessive thing. Telling them over and over again that they’re the only thing standing between him and his dark side. It’s ridiculous.

Victor: But maybe he’s right.

Nick: No, he’s not right. Otherwise, he would have made some changes, but he doesn’T. It doesn’t matter. He’s laser-focused on sally right now. Doing everything he can to pull her back in. I will never forgive him for that.

Sally: I don’t need your permission to feel, or do, or think anything, adam, okay? I don’t need your approval or your support or your endless subtle or not-so-subtle declarations of love. Why can’t you just leave me alone? Every single time I am happy and things are going well, there you are to take away my happiness. To make me question myself and to make me doubt my own feelings. We have been doing this dance for a long time now and I am exhausted. I don’t wanna do it anymore. Look, okay. When we first met, we knew that we were kindred spirits, okay? We were outsiders. We were disruptors. We are bold and we are passionate. I saw it in you and you saw it in me. But when I pursued you, you put me off. You told me all the reasons why it couldn’t work. Because I’m toxic and I’m no good for anyone. God. Oh, my god. Where would I be if I had just listened? But I didn’t listen. And then, when you finally, finally let me in, it was amazing. Until it wasn’t and you pushed me away again. Only to immediately try and get me back because you couldn’t stand the fact that I could survive without you.

Adam: Okay.

Sally: And god, thank god. Lucky me, I found nick, who is a good man. He’s– he’s a man who loves me. A man who stood by me when I was having another man’s child, his brother’s child. A man who talks about having his own children with me. I am so, so sick of you getting in my head, okay? You say that you’re my friend, but a friend wouldn’t work so hard to keep me off balance. A friend wouldn’t show me what an entire future could look like and then just rip it away. I was in a really good place. I was working through my grief over ava. And I was happy. Or almost happy anyway. Why did you have to kiss me? Why did you have to say those things? Why can’t you just let me go, adam?

Adam: I apologized. Okay? And I meant it. I mean, why– why– why does this still resonate so deeply for you? Why can’t we get past it?

Sally: Because I can’t let go of you either. My a1c was up here; now, it’s down with rybelsus.

Sally: Oh, damn it. Damn you. God.

Adam: Is that true?

Sally: Yes. Yes, it’s true. Okay? But it doesn’t matter.

Adam: Sally.

Sally: No.

Adam: Yes, it does matter.

Sally: No, it doesn’T.

Adam: You just said that.

Sally: I shouldn’t have said anything, okay? ‘Cause I– I don’t even know why it’s true. It is not good. It is not healthy. It is not logical, okay? And there is absolutely no way I would act on something so wrong.

Adam: Sally, you just said that’s the truth.

Sally: You know what? You should go, go, adam, please. You got what you wanted, okay?

Adam: What are you talking about? I told you that I want you too, okay? So if you love me at all, care about me at all, leave me alone.

Lily: So, speaking of demons… oh, I was gonna make a joke about your mom. How’s she doing at omegasphere?

Daniel: It’s very funny, very funny. Um, I don’t know. I think she behaved. She’s not reporting directly to me. She’s part of this it team and has her own boss, so I didn’t see her all day long, but I– I did not hear any screaming, so…

Lily: Oh, that’s a good sign.

Daniel: Yeah, it is the first day, but still. You know, summer and I were actually gonna have dinner with her later to celebrate the new job. You should come.

Lily: Oh, no, no, no. Nope. Nope. Nope. You can have your mother all to yourself. Does she know about heather moving back to town?

Daniel: I don’t know how she could. I didn’t say anything.

Lily: Lucy?

Daniel: Maybe.

Lily: Well– well, she’s gonna be thrilled.

Daniel: I guess.

Lily: Yeah, of course. Are you kidding? She loves her granddaughter. We all know how she feels about you and heather getting back together. I mean she went to lisbon to try to work her magic.

Daniel: Which she never should have done in the first place and I never asked her to do. And it doesn’t really matter how my mom feels about me and heather ’cause that’s never gonna happen again. You know that, right?

Lily: Yes, of course.

Daniel: Listen to me. Come here. Heather is my past. You are my future.

Lily: Well, I’m your past too.

Daniel: Hm. That’s a good point.

Victoria: You don’t agree with my mother, do you? That I’m overreacting about my father’s behavior?

Nate: I understand that you’re concerned, but people do change their minds and make mistakes, confuse words or sometimes, you know, forget things when they’re under duress.

Victoria: Normal people, maybe, but not victor newman.

Nate: I know you’re not saying your dad’s not human.

Victoria: No, of course not. I’m just saying that I think something’s wrong. I’ve seen it. Adam’s even seen it. You’ve seen it, but you’re writing it off as an accident or fatigue or stress or whatever.

Nate: If your mother’s not worried about it and she spends–

Victoria: No, she is worried about it. I saw it on her face, but you walked in to tell me about the conference call before I could pin her down and get her to admit it.

Nate: Then, you should definitely talk more about it with her. Until then, I think we should go to dinner, relax, talk about nonwork, non-victor-related topics for a while. Deal?

Victoria: All right, deal.

Victor: To be frank with you, my son, I have watched the connection between adam and sally.

Nick: Thank you very much for pointing that out.

Victor: Well, I– I– I don’t mean to, you know, rub salt in the wound, but don’t you think it’s better if you and sally go your separate ways before you become more involved?

Nick: More involved how, dad? I– I love her. I’m in love with her, but adam refuses to respect that.

Victor: But adam and sally are expecting a baby. How can you possibly compete with that?

Nick: Um… dad, adam and– and sally they lost their baby months ago. You know that?

Victor: Oh. Oh, anyway, I gotta get to the office, okay?

Nick: Dad, um, you, okay?

Victor: Yeah. Just know that love is a many splendid thing and sometimes it hurts, you know? But I really think you’d be better off if you came back to newman enterprises. Really. Come back. Lily: It is… “thank you for accepting me as part of the family company. I see great things in our future. Love, aunt mamie.”

Daniel: Hm. Nice. Any dark chocolate in there?

Lily: Hey, hey, hey.

Daniel: Okay. Not nice. I guess I don’t like dark chocolate. Are you still worried about her motives?

Lily: I don’t know. I just find the way that she’s going about this very odd. It’s like why the cloak and dagger?

Daniel: But she’s your aunt? She can’t possibly mean you any harm, can she?

Lily: I don’t know. I don’t know her that well. I mean, nate spent more time with her. She had left genoa city by the time I was born. And then when my mom and I came back from paris, she was busy with the abbotts. So, I don’t know. My mom adored her. She’s very close with aunt liv. So, maybe I have to leave the worrying to jill. I have enough of my own stuff to worry about.

Daniel: Like what?

Lily: Like you and your ex moving back to town?

Daniel: Oh, that’s not fair. Billy lives here. We see him all the time.

Lily: Billy? That’s so different.

Daniel: No.

Lily: Yes, it is.

Daniel: Oh, really? Maybe, I’m just going to have to show you that you have nothing to worry about.

Victoria: You know, everybody sees dad as this god. That he’s immortal or he’s infallible, but he’s not, he’s a human being who’s aging. He’s had multiple medical issues in the past. I know. I know we don’t want to think about the future. We certainly don’t want to say the words out loud, but dad is in a crisis. Even if you refuse to see it.

Nick: There’s nothing to see.

Victoria: Okay. Well, what if you’re wrong and– and we do nothing about it and then it gets worse. Are you gonna be able to live with that?

Nick: Hey, vic.

Victoria: Hi.

Nick: You might be right about dad.

Sally: Didn’t you hear me, adam? You need to leave.

[ Adam sighing ]

[ Sally sobbing ] God.

Sally: Look, chloe, you are my very good friend. My very busy friend, between your husband and your kids, and your amazing new job at marchetti.

Chloe: I’m not too busy to listen.

Sally: Yeah, but it’s not fair for me to unload my drama on you.

Chloe: Friends don’t unload, sally. They share and that’s what it means to be a friend. You know, you’re here no matter what.

Sally: You’re really not going to like what you’re going to hear.

Chloe: Come on, you’re clearly going through something and I want to help if I can.

[ Sally inhales ]

Sally: Adam kissed me.

Chloe: Oh. Okay. How did that happen?

Sally: [ Chuckles ] Well, it wasn’t supposed to happen. Um, we went to dinner and we had drinks. Too many drinks, and we talked and– and it was good. And then, he walked me to my door and–

Chloe: He kissed you.

[ Chuckles ] Well, that’s Adam. Never a missed opportunity. You didn’t kiss him back, did you?

*******************

Sally: Oh, this reminds me of when I was in like, seventh or eighth grade and I was madly in love with these two really cute boys at the exact same time.

Chloe: Well, we were all really confused as kids.

Sally: Yeah, but I wasn’t confused, I knew that I loved them both.

Chloe: Well, you’re all grown up now.

Sally: Yeah, apparently, when you’re a grown up, you’re supposed to know your heart well enough to know who’s going to make you happy for the long haul and try not to hold on to them both.

Chloe: Listen to your heart. Let it tell you who wins.

[ Sally sighs ]

Sally: No matter the answer?

Chloe: I know the answer. It’s going to tell you that it’s nick. He loves you. And Adam, Adam is just a part of your past, nothing more.

Sally: And what if it doesn’t tell me that? What if it tells me something completely different?

Recap written by Terry

Victor lead his family to believe that he was declining mentally. Nick reminded Victor that he called Adam by Nick’s name. Victor said Adam misremembered. Victor encouraged Nick to return to Newman, citing how happy Victoria was at Newman media and that Adam was happy being Nate’s assistant. Victor also said that Adam and Sally were having a baby – all of which was not true. Victoria was working at Newman Enterprises and beyond furious at being demoted to co-CEO, and Adam was most definitely not enjoying being Nate’s assistant. Sally and Adam’s baby, Ava, passed away before birth months ago. Victor ended the conversation and walked away, but paused to carefully watch Nick’s reaction. Nick began to believe that Victoria may be right that Victor’s mind was slipping. Nick told Victor he made the decision to not put Adam through a wall. He referred to his fury over Adam kissing Sally. Nick blamed Adam for wrecking his relationship with Sally, and vowed he’ll never forgive that. Nick said Adam is laser focused on getting Sally back. Victor said Nick was too good for her and again Victor said Nick belonged in the family company, but Nick said he was happy working with Sharon.

Nikki defended Victor to their daughter, saying everyone has called someone by the wrong name and it’s no reason to overreact. Victoria said maybe the family is not reacting enough.

Adam visited Sally’s room, claiming to check on her. Sally told him to go away. When he did not, Sally let him have it.  She insisted she did not need Adam’s approval, support or declaration of love. She said whenever she is happy, there is Adam, ready to take away her happiness, to make her question herself and doubt her feelings. She told him she is sick of Adam getting into her head. She asked Adam why he could not let her go, but she confessed she could not let him go either. She added that it’s true, but it didn’t matter and she should not have said it. She again told him to go away and leave her alone.

Heather and Daniel discussed her plans to relocate to Genowa city. Daniel later reassured Lily that him reuniting with Heather was not going to be an issue. Lily appeared to think it was. He said that Lily was his future and that they had a solid relationship.

Diane: Is it too soon to start planning our next wedding reception?

Jack: I don’t know. Do you think people will find it over the top for us to be married three times in as many months?

Diane: Do we care?

Jack: It’s a good point.

Diane: [ Laughing ] No, we should probably be patient. Maybe we can have a big party for our one year anniversary. How does that sound?

Jack: I’m not sure I can wait that long. We may have to just celebrate our love on our own every hour of every day.

Diane: Mm. You’re such a romantic What’s up?

Danny: Sure.

Phyllis: Are you interested in the bug?

Danny: I want her to be happy. As I want you to be happy.

Chloe: Now, the fabric was supposed to be at the warehouse yesterday, not that anyone keeps their word anymore, but they promised me. And I’m old school. A promise still means something. Yeah, okay, well, if they want to continue working with us, they better get their act together. Yes, and mean what they say. Old school. Okay, thanks. We’ll talk later. Bye. Okay, out with it.

[ Sally sighs ] What’s up?

Sally: Hi, chloe, um, nothing’s up. I’m good. I’m fine.

Chloe: You wanna try again?

Sally: What?

Chloe: Well, you don’t look fine.

Sally: Thanks.

Chloe: Would you rather I lied?

Sally: Maybe.

Chloe: Frankly, you look terrible. Like maybe you lost a best friend.

Sally: It’s honest and ironic.

Chloe: Okay, well, you didn’t lose me. You wanna tell me what’s happening?

Sally: Look, you really don’t want to hear my problems.

Chloe: Of course, I do. What happened?

Sally: I think I did lose my best friend. Just not sure which one.

Adam: Hey, nick.

[ Adam sighs, clears throat ] Have you, um, heard anything about dad?

Nick: I know he’s back from his trip.

Adam: I know, um, that’s not what I was talking about.

Nick: Then what are you talking about?

Adam: I’m– I’m– I’m– I’m worried about him.

Nick: Worried about him, why?

Adam: He called me nicholas at the office, and then, when i asked him about it, thinking he was joking, he had no idea that he even said it.

Nick: I guess, I’m just not seeing the severity.

Adam: He thought I was you.

Nick: Well, maybe, that’s wishful thinking.

Adam: Okay, nick, our father could be in trouble, okay? This is how things start.

Nick: What things?

Adam: Mental issues. Memory loss, confusion, mentally in trouble. Sorry, I thought you might care about things like that.

Nick: Wanna know what I care about? Not hearing one more word from you. I don’t want to hear about you or our father or anything else you have to say.

Adam: Okay, well, you are obviously pissed off. I mean, where is this coming from?

Nick: I don’t want to have a brotherly conversation with you. You have managed to screw up pretty much every aspect of my life and I’m done.

Nikki: So, you called adam by nicholas’s name and you say you did it on purpose. Why would you do that?

Victor: It was just– it was a joke, you know?

Nikki: I don’t think he found it amusing.

Victor: Mm, probably not. The problem is that kids think they can outmaneuver me. I have another thing coming.

Nikki: I don’t like the sound of that.

Victor: Victoria walks around as if nothing has happened. I know she’s seething that I stepped back in.

Nikki: Well, of course she is. You demoted her and took her place.

Victor: What do you think she’s gonna do with her anger? What do you think? Then, adam, adam walks around smiling after he’s picked up nate hastings dry cleaning. Who’s he trying to fool?

Nikki: I was against your giving him even that opportunity.

Victor: I mean, the long and the short of it is, I don’t know who I can trust.

Nikki: Darling, you can trust victoria and nicholas. And me.

[ Victor sighs ]

Adam: What has gotten into you, nick?

Nick: You. You have gotten me. And the fact that I’m not punching you in the face right now shows how much restraint I’m able to use.

Adam: Well, I guess I should thank you for that.

Nick: You’re not worth it.

Adam: I will keep that in mind.

Nick: I’ll tell you what. You keep this in mind. You stay away from me.

Adam: Nick, this is high vitriol, I mean, even for you. What I did must be pretty bad, but obviously, since you’re not going to tell me, I guess I will just sit and finish my drink.

Nick: Just shut up and you stay clear of me. I don’t want to have anything to do with you anymore. We clear? Okay, again, this is a status bar. boring. Chloe: I get it, uh, I mean, I think I get it. What about nick?

[ Sally scoffs ]

Sally: I blew it, chloe. I mean, I just felt so guilty and so wrong, and the whole thing was a mistake and– and… so, I confessed to nick because I couldn’t not tell him. It wasn’t fair.

Chloe: The whole fair/not fair thing gets kind of murky sometimes. How did he take it?

Sally: Not well.

Chloe: Yeah, of course not.

Sally: I mean, the thing is, I thought that I was in love with him. I mean, I know what an amazing man he is and it just took me so long to tell him that I actually was in love with him and that I was sure that he was the man for me, that when I did, he had a hard time believing it and I really don’t blame him for doubting me.

Chloe: Can you stop being so hard on yourself?

Sally: How can I not?

Chloe: Because you have been through so much. It stands to reason why you’ve been so confused. Nick loves you. He’s an amazing man and I’m sure he’ll come around.

Sally: I’m really not so sure about that.

Chloe: Why? What did he say?

Sally: He thinks that I still have unresolved feelings for adam.

Chloe: Do you?

[ Sally chuckles ]

Sally: I really don’t know what I feel. But it really doesn’t matter because nick wants to end our relationship until I figure it out. He doesn’t trust me anymore and… I– I really don’t know if I trust myself.

[ Nick sighs ]

Adam: Nick.

Nick: What is this? What the hell are you doing?

Adam: Listen, you can’t lob a grenade like that and then just walk off like you have nothing more to say.

Nick: There is nothing more to say. I guess you weren’t listening earlier.

Adam: Just tell me. Is this still about me kissing sally? Okay, I told you I was wrong. It was impulsive. I’ve apologized to her and I’ve apologized to you, but if you need me to say it again, I’m sorry.

Nick: You’re damn right it was impulsive because you can’t control yourself and to hell with everyone else, they’re just collateral damage. I have no idea what sally ever saw in you.

Adam: Okay, no, nick, wait–

Nick: Get your hands off me.

Adam: Okay. Sorry. I’m not trying to start anything, I’m just–

Nick: What? You what, adam? You’re impulsive?

Adam: It won’t happen again. Okay, from now on, I’ll keep my distance.

Nick: You’re a disgrace to the newman family.

Victor: I have two children, adam and victoria, who obviously don’t like each other, can’t stand each other. I stepped back into my company, the company I own, and that seems to piss everyone off. And there’s nicholas, who doesn’t give a damn about any of it. And in the middle of it all, nate hastings. I’m beginning to have the feeling that I can trust him, that he’s loyal.

Nikki: I don’t know if that’s a good decision. I mean, if he can stab devon and lily in the back, his own family, what makes you think he won’t do it to you?

Victor: Well, that remains to be seen. I know that one of them will try to betray me from the inside.

Nikki: So, you don’t trust anybody anymore? Darling, you’re sounding a little paranoid.

Victor: Sweetheart, I have reasons.

Nikki: All right, well, then, fire nate and adam. Then, maybe, nicholas will change his mind and come back to the company. Unless, of course, you’ve decided you can’t trust him either. Am I on your watch list as well?

Rsv can severely affect

the lungs and lower airways.

Victor: You’re my lover. You’re my confidant. I trust you implicitly.

Nikki: But not our daughter. Victor, you have always relied on your infallible mind to detect everybody’s motives, but this time, I think you’re off the mark.

Victor: And sweetheart, my infallible mind has always told me to watch my back, okay? And so far, that has stood me in good stead all these years, hasn’t it?

Nikki: I can’t argue with that.

Victor: Good. I want you to know that you have nothing to worry about.

Nikki: Well, you’re in charge again. Why don’t you fire adam and nate if you think one of them will betray you?

Victor: I’m gonna watch them carefully, very carefully from now on.

Nikki: Even victoria?

Victor: [ Sighs ] I hope, I deeply hope, that she is not going to be the one who will plunge the knife into my back.

Nikki: Victor, she would never do that. And what happens when she realizes that you didn’t trust her?

Victor: She’ll understand.

Nikki: No, she won’T. She’ll be mad as hell. I mean, do you really want to incur that anger? I don’t understand this, victor. What is happening to you?

Victor: Don’t you worry, all right? I have reasons to believe that someone is out to stab me in the back. My suspicions have always been justified in the past. I don’t trust them, really don’T. They’re all interested in getting ahold of this empire and I won’t let them. Not as long as I live. They will not take over. No one will take over.

Chloe: Well, nick is wrong to let this blow you two apart. There’s nothing to figure out. You just need to go to nick and tell him how you feel and convince him that you’re sincere.

Sally: What if I’m not?

Chloe: Okay, well, don’t even think that way.

Sally: Well, I’m– I’m serious, chloe. I mean, what if nick is right? What if I can’t love him the way that he needs me to? I really don’t know anything anymore.

Chloe: Sally, you do know. You told me that you love nick. And that adam is in your rear view mirror. That is what you know. Now, you just need to go to nick and prove to him that he knows that too.

[ Sally chuckles ]

Victoria: Well, that’s a familiar sight, the two of you going at each other.

Adam: Well, unbelievable. Our brother’s a little out of control, isn’t he?

Victoria: Mm. Well, with you, that’s not really surprising.

Adam: Well, I’m not saying that this time, it wasn’t unmotivated.

Victoria: You know, I’m not really interested in how it started and I’m not wanting to be a referee for my brother’s cage match. And frankly, I suspect that nick’s not buying this new adam thing any more than I am. In fact, nobody’s buying this so-called turnaround of yours.

Adam: Okay, well, as usual, you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about. My fight with nick is not about work or my so-called turnaround. It’s actually a personal issue.

Victoria: You’re right. I jumped to conclusions, something that I often do when you’re around, I’m sorry.

Adam: Did you actually just say that you’re sorry?

Nick: Every time I’m with you… it never fails to make me want to spend more time with you.

Sally: Well, then, I guess, the question becomes… what are we really? You know, are we just friends? Or… is this going somewhere?

Nick: I sure hope so.

Sally: Adam asked to walk me back to my suite after dinner, I agreed.

Nick: Then, he kissed you?

Sally: Yeah, he– [ Exhales ] He kissed me good night, but he instantly regretted it and he said he was sorry.

Nick: I highly doubt my brother regretted anything. He took advantage of the fact that I was gone.

Sally: No, no.

Nick: “Nick’s out of town. Let me real quick try and seduce sally and see if I can convince her to dump him and get back with me.”

Sally: No, nick, that’s not what happened.

Nick: That is exactly what happened. This is how my brother operates. It’s who he is. You need to stop this. You need to leave her alone for sally’s benefit, mine and definitely yours. You know me. My patience has a limit.

Adam: You– you’re absolutely right, okay? I’m sorry, I crossed the line. What I did was wrong on every level and I want to apologize sincerely to you and to sally.

Nick: “That spectra woman.” You know how insulting that sounds? It’s as if you don’t know who she is or have spent any time with her, or know that she is capable and smart or what a creative, hard working woman she actually is.

Victor: Warms the cockles of my heart. I know that you and your brother are involved in a triangular relationship with that woman. No good. You need to hear what I’m about to tell you. Sally spectra is nothing but a symptom of the rivalry between you and your brother. She’d be gone one day, forgotten. What remains is a poisoned relationship between you and adam. I’m warning you, if you choose that woman over family, you will live to regret it, I promise you. So I didn’t think I needed swiffer,

Victoria: It’s, um– it’s hard not to give in to instincts with you, but I told dad that I would give you a chance. Hence the apology.

Adam: [ Scoffs] Okay. So, you didn’t mean it. You were just pretending.

Victoria: And nate has convinced me that I should consider your accomplishments before I write you off.

Adam: Well, that must be very hard for you, considering how you feel about me. You know, speaking of our father, have you, uh, noticed anything odd about him?

Victoria: What do you mean by odd?

Adam: Um, being forgetful, memory issues.

Victoria: No, why? Have you noticed anything?

Adam: Oh, it’s– it’s probably nothing, but, um, he called me nicholas and then he got pissed off when I brought it up. You know, I thought he was doing it intentionally to put me down, but then I realized he didn’t even know that he had done it. He actually denied it.

Victoria: Well, maybe he just made a mistake and he felt embarrassed.

Adam: Okay, when is our father ever been embarrassed about anything? I mean, you should know that better than anybody. He owns every thought he has and every move that he makes.

Victoria: You’re not wrong.

Adam: Wow. That’s twice in one day. Apology and an acknowledgment. You are really trying. Okay. See you, sis.

[ Phone ringing ]

Nick: What’s up, vic?

Victoria: Hey, can we meet?

Nick: I’m not in the mood, all right? I’m tired of everyone trying to convince me I need to come back to newman.

Victoria: No, nick, it’s not about that. It’s important. Please.

[ Nick sighs ]

Nikki: I hate when you shut me out thinking that you’re doing it for my own good.

Victor: I’m asking you to be patient. Eventually, I’ll tell you everything.

Nikki: Fine. I know better than to keep pushing at this point.

Victor: Whatever happens, I know that I can trust you to keep your suspicions to yourself.

Nikki: Hating it all the while.

Victor: Whatever happens, however this unfolds… you’ve got to trust me.

Sally: I hate that I still have these feelings for adam, but I’m just so sick of pretending like I don’T.

Chloe: Well, it sounds like adam isn’t making things any easier for you.

Sally: No, he’s just forcing me to face the truth and nick’s doing the same thing.

[ Sighs ] So, I just have to say it just to get said. I do still have feelings for adam. Nick is right. He and I have unresolved issues.

Chloe: Okay, just– just stop saying that. This– this is all about adam. Adam getting what he wants, no matter who he has to manipulate and who he has to hurt in the process. Don’t be fooled by him, sally.

[ Sally sighs ]

Sally: Yeah, I don’t know. I guess I have been a fool when it comes to him. I just– I don’t know what to think.

Chloe: You do know. You do know. It’s– it’s just that you don’t want to think it, okay? Look, I was married to billy abbott, for god’s sake. I– I know firsthand how hard it is to get bad boys out of your system, even when they have just put you through so much pain and so much trouble, just like adam has done to you. You can still have feelings for him. Yuck. But… it doesn’t mean that you need to act on those feelings. I mean, you’re not going to get back together with him, right? And you’re going to do everything possible to fumigate him from your system, correct?

Sally: I’ve tried that.

Chloe: Okay, well, then try harder because I refuse to believe that you and nick can’t figure this out. I mean, there are too many reasons to fix that relationship. Nick loves you. He’s an amazing man. And he would never do anything to hurt you. Am I wrong?

Sally: No, you’re not.

Chloe: Besides, you just launched a business together. I mean, what are you gonna do about that?

Sally: Oh, I don’t know. I don’t know.

Chloe: Okay, but you do know some very important things. You ended this relationship with adam for a good reason. He brings you nothing but pain. And nick… I mean, nick is the way to happiness. So, what you need to do is, you just need to go to nick and tell him that you’re ready to let go of the past, but you need to do it now. Still living with odors?

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue. At the home depot, you’ll find top-brand kitchen appliances

Adam: Hey, so what is going on with nick? I mean, he’s pretty riled up. He almost punched me a few minutes ago.

Chloe: You know, uh, sally and I are just still wrapping up this conversation, so you think you could give us, like, uh, I don’t know, like, a minute? You see that? Nick almost punched the guy, which means he’s angry, so that means he still cares.

Sally: Yeah, or maybe he’s just angry at me.

Chloe: Well, anger is passion. And if there’s passion, there’s still a chance. Don’t tell yourself otherwise, so go do what you need to do.

Sally: God, I cannot believe I’m dealing with all this right now.

Chloe: Okay, well, if not now–

Sally: No, I know, it was just I’m creating a company, you know? I’m supposed to be focusing on that.

[ Sally sighs ] If I even still have a company. Bye.

Adam: Hey, sally. Sally. Whatever it is, can I help?

Sally: Uh, no, you cannot help.

Adam: Okay. Well, then can we go somewhere and– and talk at least?

Sally: Um, those days are over. I have a meeting to get to.

Victoria: Thank you.

Nick: Thank you.

Victoria: So, did you order that iced tea for my benefit? So, I don’t think you’re drinking right now.

Nick: Wish I was getting drunk. It sounds like a great idea.

Victoria: I’m sorry, nicholas. I’m also very worried about you. You look like hell.

Nick: Thank you. You wanted to meet. What’s up?

Victoria: I saw you and adam tearing into each other at the park. What was that about?

Nick: It’s personal. I don’t want to get into it.

Victoria: [ Laughs ] Okay.

Nick: Is that all you want to talk about?

Victoria: No, absolutely not.

Nick: Okay, then what else you got?

Victoria: I have more confirmation that something is off with dad.

Nick: Vic, this again? Come on.

Victoria: I know that you’re not in the right place for this, obviously right now, but please just hear me out. Dad called adam by your name, and then he claimed that he didn’t, and then he got mad at adam for pointing it out.

Nick: Adam already told me all about this. I hardly think it constitutes a reason for dad to start therapy. All right, why can’t you just let this go? Dad demoted you and he took your place. It’s not a sign of diminished capacity.

Victoria: I wish you would stop thinking that’s all this is. It’s more than that.

Nick: Dad had been demoting and disowning and firing his whole life and he’s doing that right now. Now, the way I see it, you got two choices. You can either step up and deal with it or just walk away.

Claire: Is everything okay?

Nikki: Oh, claire, I didn’t see you there.

Claire: Sorry I scared you. I used to accidentally do that to my great-aunt all the time and always took her days to calm down.

Nikki: So, I have more of this to look forward to?

Claire: I’ll be sure not to surprise you again.

[ Nikki sighs ]

Nikki: Oh, how sweet of you. That’s so sweet. Thank you. It’s just what I needed.

Claire: Why don’t you take a seat and let me get this for you, nikki. I don’t want to overstep, but is everything okay? Tell me to butt out if it is.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Well, you are very intuitive. Or I can’t hide things very well. Thank you.

Claire: Is there anything I can do?

Nikki: No, no, no, e– everything is fine. I’m just dealing with some family issues.

Claire: Hm. Those can definitely be troubling.

Nikki: Oh, yes. Never a dull moment at the newman household. You’ll catch on to that pretty soon, but for now, there’s really nothing for you to be concerned about.

Claire: Understood. I’m a very good listener, though, if you ever need one.

Nikki: Thank you, claire. That’s good to know.

(Music box playing)

Nikki: Entities as large as newman enterprises obviously come with inherent difficulties, even when it is family owned. I– there’s bound to be disagreements from time to time.

Claire: I imagine there are conflicts, especially with the various dynamic personalities your children are blessed with.

Nikki: Well, that’s one way of looking at it.

Claire: Look at victoria. I’m so impressed by all of her accomplishments.

Nikki: Oh, she’s an amazing woman. Victor and I are very proud.

Claire: It’s a tribute to yourself and mr. Newman how successful both of your children are. Am I being nosy?

Nikki: No, not at all. I appreciate your compassion. But everything will work out. It always does.

Claire: Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and enjoy the journey, even when it’s rocky. My great-aunt likes to say that.

Nikki: She sounds very wise, as do you. She has taught you well.

Claire: Yes, she has.

Victoria: You know, I’m really sick of this accusation that I’m not really concerned about dad and that I’m just mad at him because I got demoted. Did you ever think for one second that maybe dad’s not up to this challenge that he’s taken on and that maybe the reason that he stepped back in the first place is because he senses that he’s slowing down? You know, there’s no real justification for him coming back?

Nick: Can you hear yourself, vic? You know exactly why dad came back. He was watching his company fracture and he’s not the kind of man who’s just going to sit back and say, “hey, good luck with that.”

Victoria: But that’s just it, nick. Newman is not fractured. It’s stronger than it’s ever been. And for dad to think that, I mean, it’s just a sign. It’s a sign that he is not thinking clearly.

Nick: Dad wanting to come back and take control of his own company is not a symptom of him losing his mind.

Victoria: Oh, god, you know, everybody sees dad as this god. That he’s immortal or he’s infallible, but he’s not. He’s a human being who’s aging. He’s had multiple medical issues in the past. I know, I know, we don’t want to think about the future. We certainly don’t want to say the words out loud, but dad is in a crisis. Even if you refuse to see it.

Nick: There’s nothing to see.

Victoria: Okay, well, what if you’re wrong? What if you’re wrong and– and we do nothing about it and then it gets worse? Are you gonna be able to live with that?

Chloe: Why do you have to ruin everything? You are the worst. I am so sick of watching you destroy people’s lives.

Adam: Maybe you should try shooting me again. With better aim this time.

Chloe: Maybe. Nah. Too busy.

[ Adam sighs ]

Adam: What– what if it was? Why is it so insane that I want a future with her, sharon?

Sharon: Because sally is with nick. She loves nick. You have to let this go, adam. I told you before. Leave it alone.

Adam: Mm-hmm. I haven’t done anything since the last time we spoke, but something has happened with nick and sally. Something has broken down between them.

Sharon: How do you know?

Adam: Nick almost decked me earlier, okay? He’s mad at everything and everyone, but particularly me and I’m guessing it has something to do with sally.

Sharon: And if that’s the case, the two of them will resolve it themselves, one way or another. It’s not an opening for you to push yourself in between them. I’m telling you, adam, it’s time to walk away.

Adam: Yeah, I– I can’t promise you that, sharon. I believe that nick and sally are finished. Their relationship is over.

Sharon: You don’t know that.

Adam: Okay, well let me tell you what I do know is sally and I, we belong together. It’s inevitable.

Sharon: Wow, you really don’t care who you hurt, do you?

[ Sally sighs ]

Sally: Nick, please call me back. Just give me a chance to talk to you. It is not what you think. This can’t be the end of us. We can get through this.

[ Sally sighs ]

[ Nick grunting ]

Victor: Son. Talk to me.

[ Nick panting ]

[ Knocking on door ]

[ Glass shatters ]

[ Victoria panting ]

Announcer: Next week on the young and the restless…

Kyle: What are you asking me to do?

Audra: I want you to form an alliance with tucker and me.

Daniel: There is a spare bedroom with your name on it whenever you’re in town.

Danny: Does that include extended stays?

Daniel: Why?

Danny: I was thinking about hanging around genoa city a little longer than I expected.

Nick: Dad is fading. And I think it’s happening faster than I ever imagined.

Traci: Jack and Diane seem so happy, don’t they, Billy?

Billy: Yeah. No, it was a very lovely ceremony.

Traci: Yeah. And for Kyle to be the one to pronounce them husband and wife is just, I mean, how awesome is that? Billy. Billy!

Billy: What? Yeah.

Traci: Do you figure if you stare at that long enough you’re gonna– you’re gonna be able to tell what’s inside?

Billy: I’m not just staring at it. I mean, are you not curious about what’s inside here?

Traci: No, I don’t care one little bit what sick idea of a wedding gift Tucker McCall has given them. And jack doesn’t care either, which is why he’s told us to ignore it and throw it out. So, what are we waiting for?

******************

Traci: I don’t follow you.

Billy: Well, uh, this wedding gift, whatever this is, could be insight into what tucker’s thinking. Right? I mean, [ Sighs ] He loves to believe that he’s more clever than everyone else. Like a riddle from The Riddler.

Traci: Or it could be just some– something hateful and despicable that he’s aiming at Ashley and the Abbotts specifically.

Billy: Uh-huh.

Traci: Or it could be a blender.

[ Laughs ] Oh, I don’t care. Why are you obsessing about this, Billy? Come on. Let’s just take it to the trash, open up the lid and put it in there.

Billy: Hm. Okay. Fine.

[ Billy exhaling ] To hell with it.

Traci: Oh, Billy, what are you doing?

Billy: No, I’m just satisfying my curiosity.

Traci: Come on, Jack said that–

Billy: I know what Jack said. He said, get rid of it and I will. I just want to see what’s inside first and we’ll start with the card. “May this symbol of harmony, balance, and patience bring those elements to your new life as husband and wife.” That’s very sweet. It rhymes. Okay.

[ Traci sighing ]

Traci: Hm. I guess that’s it, huh?

Billy: Hm.

Traci: No evil dolls or exploding clocks.

[ Traci laughing ] I hope you’re satisfied.

Sally: You know, I think the key is to generate word of mouth and get some jobs under my belt before we bring in a marketing team. Get some photos out there, maybe some media content. People love before and after. What do you think about hiring me to design your offices for your new company with Sharon?

Nick: Hundred percent.

Sally: We could feature the empty space and then the concept stage and then the final product. Offer interviews for everyone and it’ll be really good for your company and mine.

Nick: Yep.

Sally: Should I go would you prefer hot pink?

Nick: Yes.

Sally: You’re not actually hearing any of the words I’m saying, are you?

Nick: What do you mean?

Sally: Have you been listening to anything I’ve said?

Nick: Yeah, you were, uh, talking about, um, something pink.

Sally: Nick.

Nick: You’re right. I’m sorry. I’m trying to concentrate, uh, but I can’t stop thinking about something else.

Sally: I bet I can guess. What happened between me and adam? You haven’t been the same since you found out about the kiss.

************************

Adam: Help me out, Victoria. You know this is a double bind for me. If I slack off, I’m an ingrate who thinks this is beneath him. And if I work hard, I’m plotting.

Victoria: That’s about it. Yeah.

Adam: Do– do you know what my dream is?

Victoria: I have no clue. And I’m really not that interested.

Adam: That one day, you will accept what I say to you at face value.

Victoria: Well, I don’t imagine that that day is coming any time soon. You know what they say about dreams? You eventually wake up.
