Mariah: Oh.

[ Chuckles ] Hi, there, bowie. Such a strong little guy. I love feeling you move, you know? So what, trying to send me a message? Or you just acting up ’cause you can feel that I’m anxious? I have to admit, I’m going a little stir-crazy. Why won’t whoever’s holding us here just reveal themselves? I thought for sure blocking that camera would lure our captors out into the open, but I guess as long as we’re locked in here, they don’t care how we spend our time. Someone has gone to a hell of a lot of trouble to keep us in here. I just need to find out why.

Sharon: I’m glad you’re back. So, you saw your sister?

Tessa: Yeah. I wanted to meet crystal face to face and make sure that no one had been threatening her or anyone in our family.

Rey: Was she alright?

Tessa: Yeah, she was fine. She said no one had resurfaced from our past and she had no reason to believe that anyone connected to us had targeted mariah.

Sharon: Still leaves so many unanswered questions.

Tessa: Yeah, I mean, obviously, I’m happy that my sister’s okay, but I’m even more desperate to find mariah.

Sharon: While you were gone, we, um, discovered some more very disturbing information, and I didn’t want to tell you about it over the phone.

Tessa: Okay, you’re making me nervous. What is it?

Rey: Mariah hasn’t used her credit card or made a single phone call since she’s gone missing, which leads me to believe that it wasn’t mariah who actually sent the texts, but, uh…

Tessa: Whoever took her.

Rey: Mm-hmm. I am looking into every place that mariah visited and every person she could’ve been in contact with in the hours leading up to her disappearance.

Tessa: I was right. Somebody took her. I’m — I’m even more terrified than I was before.

Abby: I wish I had an update for you on mariah, but I don’t know anything new. And I just keep wondering if something happened to mariah, if she’s hurt, if something happened to the baby, but then i have to stop myself from asking those questions because my mind goes to such a bad place.

Devon: I know. I’m sorry. But listen, I have some information that might put you in a better state of mind. I reached out to christine about chance.

Abby: You did what?

Devon: There’s a reason why it’s been a while since you’ve heard anything from him, and it’s ’cause there’s been some kind of development in his case that’s forced him to lay extra low.

Abby: What kind of development?

Devon: She doesn’t know what it is, but she’s gonna do everything she can to get a message to him about what’s going on with mariah, ’cause i think it’s time that he knows, now that we are thinking that she might be in some kind of danger. I know it’s frustrating, abby, but christine’s gonna do everything she can. There’s no guarantees, but she’s gonna try. And I hope you understand why i thought it was important enough to at least try.

Abby: Well, you shouldn’t have. You were way out of line.

Nikki: I had a wonderful time with victoria earlier, making plans for the wedding. I suggested that we should have a theme, and she chose the history of the palazzo.

Victor: Oh, yes. Well, seems like the two of you are in sync.

Nikki: Well, yeah, we really are, although I was wrong about one thing. Even though ashland had said they wanted to have a splashy wedding, I didn’t realize just how splashy.

Victor: Oh.

Nikki: Victoria wants a lavish affair, including everybody from her and ashland’s social circles. I mean, that surprised me.

Victor: Well, are you surprised or you disapprove?

Nick: Ashland, are you here to have dinner with victoria?

Ashland: Uh, no, I am picking up some takeout. After the day I’ve had, a quiet night at home is appealing.

Nick: You know, I heard you let harrison go live with kyle and summer in italy. That must have been difficult.

Ashland: It was the toughest decision I’ve ever had to make, followed up by the hardest thing I ever had to do — say goodbye to my son.

Nick: Well, I really admire your choice.

Ashland: Well, it was the right thing to do for harrison, and it does help to have victoria to come home to.

Nick: Yeah, she said you were starting treatment and that you two are now engaged.

Ashland: Yes, we’re planning an october wedding, and, yes, i know it’s fast, and, yes, I am expecting some blowback, especially from her brother. So why don’t you just lay your cards on the table? I can take it.

Nick: Vick seems like she’s in love, so I’m happy. But this engagement has some obvious obstacles, and I don’t want to see her heartbroken.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] You know, I still can’t figure out why the newman men all think that victoria is so fragile. She’s the strongest person i have ever met, and she doesn’t make foolish or poorly thought out decisions.

Nick: Yeah, vick’s not fragile. She’s tough. But she has made some questionable choices in her past, particularly when it comes to her love life. Well, look at that. There’s one of them right there.

Ashland: Are you implying that I’m another one of victoria’s mistakes? My name is monique, I’m 41,

Nikki: No, I support victoria’s choice to have a big wedding. I just thought she would want a smaller one, though, because ashland just got his divorce and he’s literally fighting for his life.

Victor: Mm.

Nikki: But she wants to make a statement. She actually said that the world needs to know she has found her perfect match.

Victor: I’m a little surprised by it all, but I don’t blame her for wanting a grand affair, really. I mean, think about it, she found love when she least expected it. She wasn’t looking for it. And I think, more importantly, that ashland is — is the right man. He’s worthy of her. I think he’s her equal. So let her have her grand affair, okay?

Nikki: Yes. Now, there is the possibility, though, that ashland’s treatment might not be successful, so they should enjoy themselves to the fullest while they can.

Victor: I agree with you. So you and victoria plan the wedding of her dreams. Sky’s the limit, and whatever she wants, I want her to have.

Nick: I, uh — I didn’t mean to insult you, seriously. It’s just this relationship with my sister has moved very quickly, and I don’t want to see her disillusioned or disappointed again.

Ashland: I’m not billy abbott. And I have learned over time how problematic it is to compare the present to the past. Victoria doesn’t need to justify her actions or feelings to anyone. And I will say to you what i have said to her — I love her with everything that I have and I think she feels the same way.

Nick: I believe you. Victoria said the same thing.

Ashland: Well, then i politely suggest to you and everyone else that wants to worry about victoria that you stop second-guessing her and passing judgment on her life and on her heart. The past is in the past. Victoria and I are living in the moment and looking towards the future.

Abby: Look, it was one thing for you to suggest that I make another video diary entry for chance to watch when he gets back — yeah, that was a great idea. I mean, that made me feel closer to my husband. But for you to reach out to chance without even asking me? No, no, you crossed a line. I don’t want him to worry or feel pressured to come home.

Devon: Okay, but do you think that he should know all the facts so he can make decisions based on all the information?

Abby: It’s not like he’s on a normal business trip. I can’t just ask him to leave his assignment because I miss him.

Devon: Oh, I understand that, and that’s not what this is, though. This isn’t you just missing your husband ’cause you’re feeling lonely. You guys have decided to have a child together. And some really serious and unsettling things have happened, and you’re being forced to deal with it all on your own. That’s not okay.

Abby: But I’m not on my own. I have you. I have tessa, sharon, and rey to support me while we try to figure out how to find mariah.

Devon: And I’m grateful that we get to be that support system for you, and I know we’re all invested to get mariah back. But it’s not the same. That’s not who you need right now. Your husband should know what’s going on and he needs to be the one to be here with you.

Tessa: This is all my fault.

Sharon: You’re not to blame for any of us, but I do know where you’re coming from. I — my daughter needed me, and I didn’t realize it.

Rey: Look, mariah wouldn’t want you blaming yourselves.

Tessa: It’s too late for that. I knew deep down that something was wrong this whole time, from the moment that mariah left without a packed bag or word to anyone about going anywhere. I had this feeling in the pit of my stomach. And what did I do? I ignored it. I rationalized it. I told myself that mariah had a last-second business trip or that she needed alone time before the baby, and somehow that I had smothered her. But if I would’ve been more vocal about my fears and taken action back then and forced the police to do something, I mean, maybe mariah would be home now.

Rey: There wasn’t enough information to launch an investigation back then. You did the best you could with the information that you had. But I’m here now, and I am going to find mariah, I promise you that.

Sharon: What can we do?

Rey: Actually, there is something important you can do.

Billy: Couldn’t help but notice ashland looked a little peeved walking out of here. Put 10 bucks cash down that you two were talking about him marrying your sister.

Nick: What if I was?

Billy: Well, then the only thing I want to say to you is that I’m with you. I have tried my best to convince myself that victoria marrying ashland is the right thing to do. I’ve even tried to be very supportive, but I can’t do that anymore because the truth is i think it’s a mistake. Her and ashland went from “hi, how are you” to “I do” like that.

Nick: Interesting observation coming from mr. Spontaneity himself.

Billy: I see the irony, but we’re talking about victoria here. And look, I am not blind to what she sees in the guy, but I do feel that she’s gotten caught up in the intensity of the relationship instead of really making sure that it’s the right relationship for her.

Nick: You know how hard it is for me to not just turn this around on you, but I am gonna ask you one question. How long were you with victoria before you had that impulsive jamaican wedding?

Billy: Come on, of course I’m being hypocritical, right? But I would bet that you agree with me.

Nick: I have reservations, obviously. I seriously doubt they’re coming from the same place as yours.

Billy: Yeah, where do you think mine are coming from?

Nick: Jealousy. Maybe denial that victoria could ever possibly move on from you, but I don’t get it, billy. You got a great girl. She seems to really like you. Why isn’t that enough? It’s like you got one foot in the past.

Billy: I’m worried about the mother of my children, nick. And I still love victoria in the way that you still love sharon. Now, we can talk about your long rap sheet of relationships, as well, but I don’t think we need to go there.

Nick: No, we don’T. You know what? If vick wants to marry ashland, there’s not a damn thing you and I can do about it. I just want her to be happy.

Billy: Believe me, I do, too. But how much happiness is she gonna find if ashland doesn’t make it out of this? You know, I hope I’m wrong, but I see a lot of pain in victoria’s future and possibly johnny and katie’s, too.

Nick: Yeah, if ashland doesn’t make it, I don’t want to think about what victoria’s gonna have to go through, but I know she’ll deal with it and she’ll have the support of her family.

Billy: Victoria and I will always be family because of our kids.

Nick: You know what, billy? My advice to you is let victoria live her life and you live yours.

Ashland: What’s all this?

Victoria: Well, I thought since you got the food, that i would provide the ambience.

Abby: I’m glad that your sister is safe, but it’s another dead end.

Tessa: Obviously, I wouldn’t want crystal to be in any danger, but I’m even more desperate to find out what happened to mariah.

Devon: So we still don’t know who would want to hurt mariah or the child.

Abby: I hate feeling like we’re just blindly stumbling around in the dark.

Sharon: Rey suggested something we can do.

Abby: Okay, great. Whatever it is, let’s do it.

Sharon: He wants us to keep texting mariah.

Abby: But I don’t see how that would make a difference.

Tessa: Well, if we keep texting, whoever took mariah will believe that we think she’s okay and that she’s the one sending the messages. It just might buy some more time to keep mariah safe while rey continues his search.

Abby: So we lull the abductor or abductors into a false sense of security, making them believe that we think mariah just needs her distance and we’re waiting for her to return.

Sharon: Right up until the moment rey finds out where mariah is and brings her home. At that point, whoever did this will get exactly what they deserve.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Aw, c’mon flowers.

Mariah: Well, the good news is whoever is keeping us in here is taking pretty good care of us, you know? We’ve got a comfortable bed. We’ve got clean clothes. We’ve got healthy meals. We even have prenatal vitamins for you and protein bars for me. So they’re not trying to hurt us. And it’s somebody who knows my eating habits or has studied them recently. Which makes me think this has got to be about the money, right? Like a ransom or something? And I wonder if sharon or abby have been contacted. But maybe it’s not about me at all. Ugh, bowie. Maybe it’s just about you. Let’s be honest, you are a chancellor-newman-abbott.

[ Chuckles ] You’re worth a fortune. And if somebody asked abby for millions, they would get it. But if money is the reason and the motivation, then why have i been in here so long? I mean, [Sighs] Somebody would have been contacted by now and a plan would’ve been put into motion long ago, and if it was about the money, I wouldn’t still be trapped in here.

[ Sighs ] It’s been so long. None of this makes any sense.

Devon: Alright, I need to go meet somebody, so I’m gonna leave these fake texts in your capable hands. Just let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help out.

Tessa: We will. Thank you.

Abby: I’ll walk you out. Hey, we didn’t get to finish our conversation from before.

Devon: Yeah, I know. Um…listen, I truly didn’t mean to break your trust by reaching out to christine. I’m not trying to make your life any more difficult. I’m trying to do the opposite. So…I, uh — I hope you can forgive me for crossing the lines.

Abby: There’s nothing to forgive. I’m sorry, you just — you caught me off guard. I do — I really appreciate you looking out for me.

Devon: Well, I really appreciate you understanding that’s all I’m trying to do.

Abby: And of course, I would love for my husband to come home, but not until he’s completely ready. Until he’s not gonna worry about the work that he’s left undone, and I don’t need to know much about his assignment to know that he is out there and he is making the world a better, safer place.

Devon: No, I have no doubt that he’s doing that, but at the same time, I’m sure there’s probably a handful of other agents who could step in and do his work. He has only one wife. Listen, either way, I know he’s doing everything he can to get back to you.

Abby: I know he is.

Devon: Okay. I’ll see you.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Nick: Hello.

Victor: Hey, my boy.

Nikki: Well, hello, darling. This is a nice surprise. What brings you by?

Nick: Victoria. Well, specifically ashland and victoria. She told me about the engagement. She asked me to get to know ashland a little bit before i gave my opinion about it ’cause the news definitely threw me. So I wanted to get your take on it. I don’t know. Victoria told me that you’re happy for her.

Victor: Well, your mother and I both are in favor of this union, you know.

Nick: I wish I was there. I’m just not. I don’t —

[ Sighs ] I ran into ashland at society, and it’s not like he said anything wrong, but i just get an odd feeling from him, you know? He said something like, “we got to keep the past in the past,” and it occurred to me that we don’t know anything about this guy’s history. And I got these doubts, and they’re just gnawing away at me and… I don’t know. It’s weird, but I think I’m with billy on this.

Victor: What do you mean? Billy was there when you spoke with ashland?

Nick: Yeah, he came in as ashland was leaving, and I think he could tell that I’m not completely on board with this.

Victor: You bonded with billy boy abbott over this issue?

Nick: Not by a long shot, but I did my best to downplay my concerns and to discourage him from pursuing his because, honestly, if the kids are okay — and it seems like they are — then it doesn’t matter what victoria does. It’s none of billy’s business.

Victor: You’re damn right about that. None of his business.

Ashland: Had I known what was waiting for me, I’d have come home a lot sooner.

Victoria: Well, I know you needed some alone time to get some fresh air before dinner. Did the walk help, after you said goodbye to harrison?

Ashland: Not as much as being with you.

Victoria: Well, before we eat, I have something that i want to show you.

Ashland: Show me anything and everything.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Okay. Here is our wedding venue.

Ashland: Wow.

Victoria: Yeah.

Ashland: The newman palazzo.

Victoria: Mm-hmm.

Ashland: It’s gorgeous, just like my bride-to-be.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

[ Doorbell rings ]

Ashland: Are you expecting someone?

Victoria: No, but whoever it is, show them out immediately.

Ashland: Yes, ma’am.

Victoria: [ Laughs ]

Ashland: You’ve got company.

Victoria: What are you doing here?

Billy: [ Sighs ] Well, it looks like bad timing on my behalf.

Victoria: Yeah, you might say that. I thought we had discussed everything that we had to earlier.

Billy: Oh, I’m here to speak to ashland, actually.

Ashland: Is that right?

Billy: Yeah, there’s a few things I would like to clear up about chanccomm’s article on tara.

Victoria: That couldn’t have waited until morning?

Billy: Media business is a 24/7 gig. I go where the story takes me.

Victoria: Okay, well, the story, or whatever else you’re fishing for, can wait. If you want to talk to ashland, you can make an appointment with his assistant.

Billy: Do you have an opinion on that?

Ashland: Only that I agree with victoria. And I’m kind of enjoying watching her tell you off — no offense.

Billy: None taken. Well, I’ll leave you to it. Have a good evening.

Nikki: Maybe we should stay away from the topic of billy. That’s not what nicholas came over to discuss.

Victor: I agree.

Nick: Obviously, I’m concerned about what this could do to victoria, getting involved with someone with a terminal illness. But I’m also really curious what else does she know about him? What do any of us know about him before his life with victoria, other than he’s a ruthless businessman? Now, clearly, victoria thinks he acts differently in his personal life than he does in business, but —

Nikki: Well, people are complex. They can be ruthless in the boardroom and be very kind and loving at home.

Nick: Yeah, I don’t know, just with ashland, I get the feeling he’s the kind of guy that makes you feel like you know the whole story, but you got to wait for the other shoe to drop.

Devon: Rey, appreciate you meting me. I just came from abby’s, and they filled me in on the idea about keeping the text messages going to mariah.

Rey: Well, yeah, if you’re looking for an update on that, there — there still isn’t one.

Devon: Yeah, no, no, I — actually, I just came to talk to you about whatever I can do to help. I was thinking that if you say it’s a good idea, we can offer a reward to anybody that has information on mariah’s whereabouts, just ’cause, you know, money is what I can bring to the table, so however we can use it, let’s do that.

Rey: I appreciate that, but i think a reward or any kind of public announcement will only tip the kidnappers off and possibly put mariah in more danger.

Devon: You’re saying “more” danger? Alright. I know that she’s been gone for a while, but how bad do you think this situation really is?

Sharon: Should we send mariah individual messages or send a group text?

Sharon: I think we should use the same text chain that we used for our attempted virtual intervention.

Sharon: When we thought we were talking to the real mariah.

Abby: Yeah.

Tessa: Here’s the last message we got from her phone — “please stop pressuring me. I’ll be home when I’m ready. Your intervention is making it worse. It’s time to back off.”

Sharon: Okay, well, I think I should be the first one to text her because I’m her mother. I’m gonna say, “I waited this long to answer because I didn’t want to bombard you and I just wanted you to know how sorry i am that I upset you.” I’ll just apologize and tell her to do whatever she needs to do for herself. How’s that sound?

Tessa: That’s perfect.

Sharon: Okay. Alright, done. Sent.

Abby: Okay, um, well, maybe i should go next. I could offer an apology of my own, and then I can offer some words of support, tell her that I know that she’s taking good care of our little boy.

Tessa: I mean, I can say that I meant well, I just miss her so much. But I also want her to take as much time as she needs. Um…I’ll tell her that I love her and I’ll be here, arms wide open, whenever she’s ready to come home.

Sharon: That sounds good and really sincere.

Tessa: I envision that moment all the time, when I finally get to see her again. How overjoyed and relieved I’ll feel.

[ Crying ] Let’s just hope that whoever has her buys it and doesn’t suspect that we’re onto them.

Abby: We’ll find out soon enough.

Managing type 2 diabetes?

Tessa: [ Sighs ] I wonder when and if we will get a text back.

Abby: [ Sighs ] Me too. Though it feels really weird sitting around with bated breath waiting to get more lies from mariah’s abductor.

Tessa: I mean, at least it would be a good sign that the kidnapper believes our lies and feels no reason to panic.

Abby: God, I am just — I’m so frustrated that someone would go to these extremes and we don’t who has taken her or what their motive was, and I’m even more mad at myself that I let myself think that mariah’s disappearance was the result of her emotional state.

Tessa: Look, just don’t even go there. I was there earlier, and nothing good comes of it. Mariah needs all of our focus, energy, and positive thoughts directed her way. We need to keep believing that she’s going to come home safe and that we’re gonna see her before we know it.

Abby: You’re right. We can’t think the worst, not for one second.

[ Sighs ]

Rey: I won’t let myself think the worst about mariah, and neither should you.

Devon: Well, I mean, of course I’m trying not to, but we all know how ugly the world can be out there, so if you have any ideas that can ease my mind or any theories of how this is all gonna turn out okay, I’d love if you shared them with me.

Rey: Alright, well, the fact that the text stream is still ongoing is a reason to be optimistic and I think mariah’s pregnancy. Look, to be blunt, if things were over, there would be no reason to keep up a facade. I also still think that this is someone from mariah’s past. Sharon mentioned a woman by the name of alice johnson. Another thing that occurred to me was what if this is some disturbed person who desperately wants a child? Someone like that would have every reason for mariah to be healthy and strong.

Devon: And if that was the case, what’s gonna happen after she gives birth?

Rey: We bring mariah back before we find that out.

[ Cellphone chimes ] Look, I got another case I got to go back to the station to deal with, but I will keep you in the loop.

Devon: I appreciate that. And let me know if the reward idea is valuable at all, ’cause I’ll do whatever I can.

Rey: Hopefully I’ll have this wrapped up before that’s necessary.

Devon: Thank you. Hey, this is devon hamilton. I, uh — I wanted to discuss something with you, and I was hoping we could meet. As soon as possible, actually.

Victoria: I’m really glad that billy’s drop-in wasn’t too disruptive.

Ashland: Do you really think he was here about the story?

Victoria: Maybe, maybe not.

Ashland: Well, our engagement seems to have brought out a lot of protective instincts.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] I’m sorry about that.

Ashland: No, don’t be. It speaks highly of you that you have people in your life that care so much about you.

Victoria: I think that some of those people have boundary issues, and I’d much rather go with your version. Better suits my mood.

Ashland: Which is?

Victoria: Happy, in love. I say that we forget that billy was ever here and we go back to where we were — a romantic palazzo in italy.

Ashland: Cin-cin.

Nick: I worry that victoria is stepping into something that she may not have any control over.

Nikki: What do you mean by that?

Nick: I don’t know, mom. I wish I could be more specific, but it’s like a sixth sense or a premonition or something, but the bottom line is there is more to ashland locke than we all know.

Victor: What do you propose we do?

Nick: Use your resources. Dig into his past. Find out the stuff that nobody else knows.

Victor: I agree with you. We’ll dig deep. If there’s anything to be found, we’ll find it before the wedding date. (Vo) imagine a visibly healthier pet in 28 days.

Victoria: So my mother and I, we have made great progress with the wedding. We’re gonna run with the history of the palazzo as a theme. And now that the date is set, we can arrange for you to spend time with harrison during the wedding week. Well, tuscany is close to milan, so that’s another really good reason that we’re having the ceremony at my parents’ place.

Ashland: It all sounds perfect. Here you are once again taking care of me.

Victoria: What are you talking about? I want to. Why wouldn’t I? I love you.

Ashland: I love you, too.

Billy: Thank you. Hello, there. Is there a reason why you’re glowering over me this evening?

Victor: You stay out of my daughter’s life. She’s no longer of concern to you.

Mariah: Maybe the problem is I’m looking for sense and logic when there are none.

[ Sighs ] Maybe this isn’t about money or your family line. Maybe this is just…twisted punishment from somebody who hates me. I — oh, god. Is it ian? Was I right before? Somebody from the cult? I mean…you hear about these things happening all the time, but just you never think they’re gonna happen to you.

[ Cellphones chime ]

Abby: We got a response.

Sharon: Who are you? And what do you want?

Mariah: It’s the not knowing that is driving me out of my mind. And I cannot lose my mind. I have never had more responsibility in my life than i do right now.

[ Sniffles ]

[ Exhales sharply ] So I got to [Sniffles] Stay sane and keep it together for you, bowie. I’m not gonna let anything happen to us, okay? To you.

[ Sniffles ]

Abby: Well, I suppose we should be relieved that our ruse worked.

Tessa: But I would give anything to hear from mariah herself.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Abby: Maybe it’s rey with good news. Ben, you’re back in town?

Stitch: Yeah, you okay? You seem upset.

Abby: Mariah’s still missing, and we’re really scared for her.

Stitch: Come here.

Mariah: [ Sniffs ]

[ Sighs ] Don’t worry, little man. We’re gonna be okay. We’re gonna find our way home.

[ Sniffles ] I promise you.

Jack: We are about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime. If I can just find this one thing. We’re gonna get on a very special jet, and it’s gonna have games and your — your favorite snacks and movies and cartoons for us to watch, and it’s just gonna be us. You and me. And best of all, it’s an overnight flight, so we’ll fall asleep on the plane, and when we wake up, who are we gonna see in italy?

Harrison: Mommy!

Jack: No, no, I’m sorry. No, mommy won’t be there, but we’ll — we’ll see her soon. But you know who will be there is daddy kyle. Won’t that be fun? Oh, and summer found this great gelato place. You know gelato? It’s kind of like — it’s like ice cream, only maybe a little bit better. You are in for the time of your life. Adam: Uh, I was just reading the memo that you sent.

Chloe: And you agree with everything in it?

Adam: The memo was fine, but you copied chelsea on it.

Chloe: Well, yeah, she’s a part of my team.

Adam: She’s not officially on board.

Chloe: That doesn’t mean it’s not a done deal. It was a big part of your pitch when you offered me this job, the opportunity for my friend to have a safe place to land. Well, semi-safe.

Adam: Semi-safe?

Chloe: Well, you’re still here.

Adam: You know, it is really nice in an ever-changing world to have a constant to count on, like your innate distrust of me.

Chloe: It’s not innate. It’s learned, after years of experience.

Adam: Fine. Where’s your new addition to the team, the fashion superstar?

Chloe: Sally, yeah, she’ll be here in a minute. Seemed like you guys were really hitting it off earlier at crimson lights.

Adam: You know, it is helpful to get to know the people who work for you. She seems smart. I like her, but I had an interesting conversation with phyllis about her the other night. She’s not a fan.

Chloe: Oh, really? Sounds like a badge of honor to me.

Phyllis: Oh.

Sally: The security in this hotel is terrible.

Phyllis: Oh.

Sally: I would like to report a robbery.

Phyllis: Okay.

Sally: What is this? I’m telling you I was robbed in your hotel.

Phyllis: Are you sure it was a robbery?

Sally: Well, someone broke into my room and took everything I owned.

Phyllis: Mm, that’s not necessarily “theft.”

Sally: Okay, so then what else would it be? My possessions were stolen.

Phyllis: Okay. You know, like those suitcases right here, I mean, if somebody were to take off with those,

that would be a robbery.

Sally: Wait, my suitcases.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Isn’t it clear to you? You’re being evicted.

Sally: What?!

Phyllis: I’m throwing you out on your california butt. My employees — my lovely employees — packed your bags for you. You need to leave as soon as possible.

Lauren: Uh, michael’s not here, but he is definitely on his way.

Gloria: Good. And I do so appreciate you taking me out like this.

Lauren: Oh, well, I love to take my assistants out a few times a year because it’s really important to take stock, you know, see what’s working, what needs improvement without the distraction of the office.

Gloria: And that is exactly the smart approach I’ve come to expect from you. You are an excellent manager, and I’m always looking for leadership tips.

Lauren: You are? Why?

Gloria: Oh, I love this champagne. It’s the good stuff. In fact, we should get a bottle.

Lauren: This is a work lunch.

Gloria: Oh, come on, we deserve to let our hair down a little bit. And besides, you are going to need that champagne for a toast.

Lauren: [ Chuckles ] I am?

Gloria: Mm-hmm.

Lauren: I don’t understand. What am I toasting to?

Gloria: You are going to wish me luck. Lauren, this is my last day as your assistant.

Rey: So you don’t think ian ward could be behind mariah’s disappearance?

Michael: The man’s definitely a sociopath, but he is currently incarcerated in a maximum-security prison where his communication with the outside world is strictly monitored. How’s sharon holding up?

Rey: She’s a wreck. She just wants answers, michael.

Michael: Listen, I just keep coming back to the idea that there’s nothing actually wrong.

Rey: What do you mean?

Michael: Mariah, maybe she just needed to take some time for herself before the baby comes. I mean, she got swept up in this idea of helping abby, and it just became overwhelming. You know, she needed a break.

Rey: Yeah, I kept thinking the same thing for a while, but there are too many irregularities. Think about it — she didn’t pack, encryption on her phone. Now, for me, the tipping point was that she didn’t use her credit cards once or make a single cellphone call since she’s been gone. Mariah is in trouble, and she needs our help. Chloe: So do you just, like, go home and practice sounding reasonable? Because I am just waiting for you to crack and reveal your true self. A part of me is thinking maybe i should just move my desk in here so I don’t miss it when it happens.

Adam: You know, maybe this is my true self, and all those years I was acting like a jerk, it was for your benefit. Well, this was a lot of fun. Let’s never do it again.

Chloe: [ Scoffs ]

Sally: I can’t believe you had all of your employees go into my room, pack up everything I own, and plop it right down here in the lobby.

Phyllis: Yes. Yes, I diD. Um, I kicked you out before. This shouldn’t be a shock. I mean, you didn’t listen to me then. I foolishly let it slide. I’m kicking you out now.

Sally: You can’t do this, phyllis.

Phyllis: Oh, I think i already did. Management reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who bugs the hell out of me. Now, I suggest you go up to your room and you make sure that my employees got everything. You have about five minutes left on that key card.

Jack: Is there a problem?

Phyllis: Not anymore. To be a thriver

Gloria: Hmm.

Michael: Oh. What did I miss?

Lauren: Not really sure. I think she’s quitting.

Michael: You begged lauren for that job.

Gloria: I know, and I am so grateful you can’t imagine. I needed a position until something better came along.

Lauren: So what will you do?

Gloria: Oh, come on, you should know, lauren. Don’t get coy with me.

Sally: I can and I do. We had a business arrangement. I paid her weekly, and she gave me a place to stay.

Jack: I think you know this is about more than a hotel room.

Sally: She has had it in for me since the second I came to town.

Jack: This could have been so different. You could have worked with your own merits to get to the top. Instead, you got greedy.

Sally: Greedy? Me?

Jack: Yes, and it cost summer and kyle.

Sally: Wait, what exactly did it cost summer? She got a dream job because of me.

Jack: You really don’t get this, do you?

Sally: What is it that I’m supposed to get?

Jack: Let me put it this way. If you mess with another member of my family, I will not be so calm and forgiving next time.

Sally: I can’t believe that you think you’re being forgiving when you’re actually just being cruel. We could have had something really special, jack, until she torpedoed our relationship. She was jealous of what we had, and she wanted to control you. Now she’s getting exactly what she wanted. I will never forget what you did.

Phyllis: Do you need someone to help you with those bags?

Sally: No, absolutely not. I got it myself. Thank you. I am really sorry that things didn’t work out for us, jack. I mean that.

Phyllis: Should I call a bellman?

Sally: No, I got it. Thank you. I’ve got moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Gloria: [ Chuckles ] You are so narrow-minded, michael. Both of you. You don’t think I can run a fashion-forward company like jcv.

Michael: Why would lauren hand over a plum job like that to you?

Lauren: You know, that’s quite a jump — from my assistant to running a major fashion division.

Gloria: Oh, but not such a jump for your former assistant, sally spectra.

Lauren: Okay, she had already been made an executive before i gave her that opportunity. Plus, she had a lot of recent fashion experience in la.

Gloria: Oh, my, what a coincidence. I have a lot of experience, too. Fashion consultant at jabot, worked with chloe and chelsea on their line a few years ago. Ah, and once upon a time, an “extreme catwalk” judge.

Michael: [ Chuckles ] “Extreme catwalk” judge. Thank you, fashion maven. We’re all very impressed, but there’s the other little matter of actually running a business.

Gloria: I’ve run several businesses, michael — successfully, mind you.

Michael: Like what? Glo-worm?

Gloria: A coveted, loved restaurant.

Michael: It went up in flames.

Gloria: Not my fault.

Lauren: You know, I just do not think that this is a — a —

Gloria: Before you finish your sentence, please hear me out. I am talented, I am hard-working, I am creative, i am a natural. Oh, yes, and best of all, i won’t spend all of my time plotting behind your back. Come on, lauren, please give me the job. You know I can do it. And I might say you could do worse. But you already have.

Phyllis: As fun as that was, seeing her, you know, try to get out of here, it didn’t change anything. I mean, my daughter is in italy, and she is not coming back. All that time I wasted trying to expose tara and sally for my daughter —

Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait, don’t — don’t say it was a waste. It wasn’T. I know you’re disappointed with the results, but it was important and it was helpful. And as far as summer goes, look, at least now she’s doing what she’s doing out of choice. Be happy that your daughter has opportunities, and like her mother, knows how to make the most of them.

Phyllis: Thank you. You always know what to say to me, and I really, really love you for it. Thank you, jack. You’re right. Uh, I should just be proud of my daughter, and I r– I should respect her power of choice. It’s just hard. It’s just really, really difficult for me. This must be difficult for you, too. Not only did you lose kyle, but you lost harrison, as well.

Jack: Yeah, he’s become a giant part of my life, but you know what? This is not about me. At least I keep telling myself that.

Phyllis: Oh, see, that’s my problem, ’cause it’s always about me, so…

Jack: Look, think of this as a bold, new opportunity for summer and kyle to start a new life together as new parents. And who knows? Maybe they’ll like it so much, they’ll start talking about having a child together.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] You really like being a grandfather, don’t you?

Jack: I’m telling you, the more grandchildren, the better. I want every holiday in the abbott house to be crowded with grandchildren. Noisy and boisterous, just like it used to be.

Phyllis: That sounds amazing. It does. Doesn’t change the fact that she’s not coming home. That’s all — it’s just really hard. Ugh. I have half a mind to hitch a ride with you to milan.

Jack: We have an extra seat on the jet.

Phyllis: Oh, I can’T. It’s impossible with everything at work, but that’s why i called you over here. I have a little something for her that I’d like you to bring to summer. Can you do that?

Jack: Yeah, what is it?

Phyllis: Well, it’s not completely ready, so I have to stop by later and give it to you.

Jack: I am delighted to be your deliveryman of choice. You saved me from making a major mistake with sally. And I owe you big time.

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: Detective.

Rey: My apologies for not calling earlier. I have some questions for you.

Adam: I assume this is about chelsea?

Rey: No. Mariah copeland. I was wondering the last time you had contact with her.

Adam: Um…mariah. Um…it’s been a while. I mean, she’s barely on my radar. Why?

Rey: She’s been out of town for much longer than expected.

Adam: [ Scoffs ] So someone goes missing, and your first step is to come question me, even though I have no connection to her?

Rey: I didn’t say she’d gone missing.

Adam: Well, that kind of was the implication, wasn’t it?

Rey: And you still haven’t answered the last time you made contact with her.

Adam: Uh, I think it was right after I donated a kidney to faith. And you still haven’t told me why your detective instincts have zeroed in on me, rey. I mean, did you want to search the office?

Rey: No. Of course not. And your overreaction isn’t helping the situation. You know, you could at least pretend to care. This is sharon’s daughter we’re talking about.

Adam: I do care. It still doesn’t explain the logic to why you’re here questioning me.

Rey: Maybe you’re lashing out at sharon for not loving you or maybe mariah’s crossed you one too many times, given how much she hates you.

Adam: I think you’re fishing, pal.

Rey: I’m covering my bases, pal, and I am not gonna apologize for doing my job, no matter how much it irks you.

Adam: Look, you’re grasping at straws, rey. You know, I thought that we were moving into a better direction after you stepped up and went with chelsea to minnesota, but i guess not. You’re still dying to just pin something — anything — on me.

Adam: She seems fine. I’ll let her know that you asked about her next time she calls.

Rey: And connor? He’s adjusting to all the changes in his life?

Adam: I do not have time to have casual conversation with you.

Chloe: So how attached are you to next quarter’s budget? Hi, rey.

Adam: I’ll talk to you about the budget later. Detective rosales hasn’t wrapped things up with me yet, despite my best efforts.

Chloe: Sure.

Lauren: The issues is that jcv is for a very specific demographic, and I just don’t think your sensibilities would be a match.

Gloria: In other words, I’m not young enough for —

Lauren: No, no, I’m not saying that at all.

Gloria: Of course you’re not. Great way to get yourself sued. Don’t worry, michael, I am not looking for a settlement. I want a job.

Lauren: You have one.

Gloria: I want the opportunity to excel. And as far as your concern that I am not quite perfect for the brand, let me give you the answer to that — inclusivity. Buzzword of the day. All types, all ages. Now, look at the amazing diversity in the marketing of, say, an athletic wear company. That is what I want to implement at jcv.

Lauren: That is in line with my vision.

Gloria: Mm-hmm. And as far as your worries that I am out of touch with what young people are thinking, well, forget that, lauren. That can be learned because young people, that changes every day. I have an idea.

Michael: Oh, god.

Lauren: What just happened? Did she just accept a job that wasn’t offered again?

Chloe: You know, I don’t know why rey was there, but remember what I told you about adam, so basically, every time I see him with a cop, I just assume he’s gonna get arrested, which was clearly not the case. I was just having a knee-jerk reaction, nothing more. And, um, sorry, but it looked like you were dragging your luggage into work earlier. What was that about?

Sally: Yeah, I’m sure that looked a little odd. I apologize. I can assure you that I’m not planning on moving in. I just had to leave my previous residence in a hurry.

Chloe: Previous residence — you mean phyllis’ hotel?

Sally: Yeah. I won’t miss it. Or her. And my next place will be a definite upgrade.

Chloe: It must be hard doing it alone. You’ve had some setbacks — with work, jack, and now your living arrangements. I just want to make sure that you’re not making any plans to leave.

Sally: Leaving never crossed my mind. I already did that when I came here from la, and, yeah, I may not be the most popular person in town right now, but I have just as much right to be here as anyone.

Chloe: Well said. Sounds like you have something to prove.

Sally: To a few people, yeah. I want to make them regret ever doubting me.

Ashland: Alright, captain harrison, let me see that approach. Very nice. Where’s — oh, let’s see the landing. Let’s see — bring it in for the landing right here. Right there for the landing. Jack: Not at all. Looks like you two are having some fun.

Ashland: We sure are.

Jack: Hey, is that a new toy?

Ashland: Ah, it sure is. Yeah, I know all about your special trip on the plan to italy tonight.

Jack: How you feeling?

Ashland: Fine, yeah, harrison was just telling me about the plans to get on the plane tonight and go see kyle and something about pizza.

Jack: Yeah, there was something about pizza, wasn’t there?

Ashland: So proud of my little man. He’s gonna go off and explore the world, aren’t you?

Jack: He’s gonna have the time of his life.

Ashland: Hey, listen, I want you to promise me something. I want you to make a lot of video calls with me back and forth so I can find out what you’re doing and keep in touch with you a lot. And I want you to promise me one more thing, okay? Daddy kyle’s in charge, and i want you to listen to him. And I want you to be on your best behavior with him. Promise me that? Okay? ‘Cause kyle loves you very much, and I know you’re gonna be in good hands and have a ton of fun with he and summer. Summer can’t wait to see you. She loves you, too. She can’t wait to see all the things that you are gonna do together and have bedtime stories.

Jack: Hey, harrison. Would you take that toy to the sun room? Your backpack’s in there, and we don’t want to forget it, okay? Good man. Thanks, buddy. Hey. You really okay?

Ashland: You know, it’s really not something I care to admit, jack, but no, I’m not okay. This is the way it has to be, but that doesn’t make it any easier. When I get a migraine, I shut out the world.

Gloria: Oh, my, my, my, my.

Chloe: Oh, gloria.

Gloria: Oh, sally. I am so sorry I didn’t get a chance to see you or wish you luck before you left jcv, but i see you landed on your feet after the unfortunate facts of your departure.

Sally: You can say “fired.” It’s okay, ’cause that’s what happened, whether or not it was justified.

Gloria: Mm, fired, hmm. You know, but I got a chance to see you, and I was so impressed. It was like watching a pro athlete at the top of her game.

Sally: That’s very nice of you to say, gloria.

Chloe: Maybe too nice.

Gloria: One of the things that really impressed me was how you stayed in tune with the young demographic.

Sally: Yeah, I mean, that’s a big part of the job.

Gloria: Oh, absolutely. So who do you follow on social media and what do you read? Where do you get this freakish talent of knowing what young people want?

Sally: Well, you know, i think it helps to be one of the young people.

Gloria: [ Chuckles ]

Chloe: Uh, gloria, really great seeing you, but we’ve actually got to get back to work. But I’ll see you this weekend for brunch, and we really got to go.

Gloria: Oh, if you must. So long, so long.

Sally: Wow. I mean, that was really sweet of gloria to wish me well. She did not have to do that.

Chloe: No, she didn’T. That’s the suspicious part.

Sally: What do you mean?

Chloe: Well, that’s the thing about gloria. That was not just her being nice. There was an agenda.

Jack: That was quite a performance just now with harrison. You could’ve handled this so differently, and I want you to know I admire your approach.

Ashland: You sound surprised, jack.

Jack: Well, given your reputation…

Ashland: No, I understand. I’m rash, self-serving, impetuous, sometimes I’m just downright mean. But I love that boy. And I’ll always choose to do what is the best for him.

Jack: I want you to know, you and I have that in common.

Ashland: You know, he’s your grandson, but he’s my boy. You know, blood matters. But it’s not everything. And love is — love is a powerful force. And sometimes, you know, when you love someone, you got to do the difficult thing, like step back and let them go.

Jack: I want you to know, there is room in the plane if you’d like to come with us. Really, you could take a little more time with your goodbye.

Ashland: Well, because this could be my last goodbye if the treatment fails.

Jack: I wasn’t saying that.

Ashland: God love you, jack. I appreciate the hell out of that offer, I truly do, it’s — it’s so bloody generous and gracious of you. But that flight from new york really wiped me out, and I can’t imagine what a flight back and forth to europe would do to me.

Jack: I understand that.

Ashland: You know, I think a clean break is probably best. I’ll say my goodbyes here. And you guys will be off to italy, and that’ll be that.

Jack: You’ll see him again. This is not the last time you’ll see harrison. I firmly believe that. I said earlier that I admire you. I meant that. I’d like to think if I was facing a life what you’ve been facing, that I would handle it with the same dignity and grace and courage that you have.

Ashland: Thank you, jack. Now, uh, let me go say goodbye to my boy.

Lauren: What do you think gloria is doing?

Michael: We just have to hope that she’s not at this very moment attempting to enroll in a high school so she can better relate to young people’s fashion needs.

Lauren: Just when I think she can’t surprise me anymore, she does.

Michael: It’s a gift of sorts.

Lauren: I mean, she is entertaining.

[ Chuckles ] I’ll give her that.

Michael: Hardly the quality you need to head a company like jcv.

Lauren: Sally was good at her job, and in time, she would have been great. She had vision and she had a plan to implement it, and i just — I cannot believe I had to fire her.

Michael: Hey, hey. I think that showed great loyalty to jack.

Lauren: Yeah, and his eyes are open to her. He is much better without her. I just wish he could find someone as perfect as you are for me.

Michael: That’s a tall order. I think ours is a once-in-a-lifetime love affair.

Lauren: We are one of a kind, baby. But I still hold out hope that there is a great romance for everyone out there.

Michael: Yeah. I’ll drink to that.

Lauren: [ Chuckles ] Okay.

Phyllis: Did I see ashland locke outside?

Jack: Yeah, he was just saying his goodbyes to harrison. It was pretty rough. He covered very well for harrison’s sake, but… is this what you want me to bring to summer?

Phyllis: It is.

Jack: How do I know this isn’t contraband?

Phyllis: [ Laughs ] You don’T.

Jack: Mm.

Phyllis: Um, will you just take a look at it? I want you to see it.

Jack: Okay. Wow. She’s so tiny. And so beautiful. So are you.

[ Sniffles ]

Phyllis: Thank you. Um…summer is very lucky to have a future father-in-law who loves her almost as much as i do.

Jack: I will happily deliver this to her along with all of your love.

Phyllis: Oh, I worry about here. She’s gonna be okay, isn’t she?

Jack: Absolutely. She has a bright future ahead of her with the love of her life, and that’s something you never take for granted.

Adam: Don’t worry. Rey’s gone, coast is clear. Hey, uh, there’s a stack of luggage by the break room. You know anything about that?

Sally: That’s mine. I’m moving out of the grand phoenix, and I just needed a place to stash them.

Adam: Did phyllis give you the heave-ho or something?

Sally: She did, yeah, but, actually, I think she did me a favor.

Adam: Why? Because it’s too tense seeing her there all the time.

Sally: No, but she just charges way too much for that dump. Don’t worry, the suitcases will be gone by the end of the day, promise.

Chloe: So, rey — is everything okay?

Adam: It was actually about mariah. Apparently, she might be missing.

Chloe: Oh, my god, I hope she’s alright.

Adam: Well, I imagine that she’ll turn up soon.

Jack: Well, I am off to milan tonight. Taking harrison to live with kyle and summer.

Lauren: Oh, my goodness. This is all happening so fast.

Jack: Yeah, I guess that’s how these “happily ever after” things happen. Once the obstacles are out of the way, everything just falls into place.

Lauren: You just must be so elated for your son and his young family to embark on this adventure?

Jack: Yeah, it’s a pretty remarkable story.

Lauren: But it also must be breaking your heart.

Phyllis: Oh, that’s amazing. All right. Okay, I’ll let you go. We’ll talk tomorrow at the same time. All right, baby. All right, bye. I love you. Hey! That was our daughter. That’s our daughter.

Victoria: Well, I’m keeping a positive outlook, and I’m focusing on this wedding. And to that end, ashland and i would love to have our ceremony at the family palazzo.

Victoria: Yes. You know, I have loved italy ever since I lived there. And by then, harrison will be settled into his life in milan with summer and kyle. Nick: I don’t know. I’ve just been thinking a lot about summer and kyle, you know, and their lives are completely different now. Our daughter not only has to learn a new language. She needs to learn how to be a mom.

Nick: Well, luckily, she has an incredible role model. I mean, think about it. She took on this huge challenge just so she could be with kyle, and kyle picked up and moved his entire life over to milan just to be with our daughter. Those are two tremendous acts of love.

Phyllis: Yeah, they sacrificed a lot to get the kind of life they wanted.

Nick: Well, listen to me. If it ever comes up, there isn’t anything that I won’t give up for you, not anything. I love you that much.

Sally: Well, I’m hoping to concentrate on ferreting out untapped sources for news and trends since I’m sure that newman media wants to be the first to know and the first to tell the world.

Adam: That is exactly what I’m looking for — to be on the cutting edge of all the outlets we have. So I’m glad that you’re ready to dive right in.

Phyllis: Alright. We can talk now. Let’s talk.

Nick: What was that downstairs, slamming your computer shut so I wouldn’t see what you were working on?

Phyllis: I’m trying to protect you.

Nick: Protect me from what? We agreed to be partners in crime. You need to tell me everything that you know. Have you learned anything new about tara and sally targeting summer?

Phyllis: I’m past that.

Nick: You are?

Phyllis: Yeah, definitely. I’m following up on a tip that lauren gave us downstairs about tara’s shoe company holding back on their financials to fenmore’S. You and I both know there’s a reason for that, and I’m gonna find out what that reason is.

Nick: Well, it sounds like you’re reaching, because what does tara selling her company to lauren have to do with summer? She doesn’t work at fenmore’s anymore, and she never had any professional dealings with tara.

Phyllis: Well, they got al capone on tax evasion, so whatever it takes, you know?

Nick: Okay. So you plan on hacking into her accounts and going through her business records. I’m sure the da’s wife is gonna enjoy hearing that.

Phyllis: Well, only if we find something incriminating. And in that case, she’s gonna be happy.

Nick: You hope.

Phyllis: Listen, I haven’t done anything yet. See? Mainly ’cause I can’t get through tara’s firewall, but trust me, I’ll get in. You can count on that.

Tara: I am in a no-win situation here. Someone is lying about me.

Jack: So you have said.

Tara: My money’s on phyllis, although it could be sally. But since you’re fond of both of them, it doesn’t really matter what I say because I’m gonna offend you either way.

Jack: Those two can take care of themselves. My concern is you. And my primary objective here is to make sure harrison isn’t subjected to unnecessary drama.

Tara: You have a funny way of showing it. Repeating all these hurtful accusations.

Jack: Tara, you’re not listening to me. I am not accusing you of anything. I am inviting you to trust me enough to tell the truth. I got the sense there was something you wanted to tell me. Was I wrong about that?

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

[ Cellphone rings ] Summer. Hi. How are you? It’s so good to see your face.

Summer: Um…[Stammers] Kind of confused, actually. That message that you left me was pretty cryptic.

Kyle: Yeah, there’s a reason for that. This isn’t the kind of thing you text about.

Summer: Okay, well, whatever it is, I don’t — I don’t really think that I need to hear it.

Kyle: W-w-wait. What?

Summer: Kyle, look, we said our goodbyes. Okay? I don’t know if it’s such a good idea that you and I talk. It’s gonna make it harder for both of us to move on.

Kyle: Wait, so this is hard for you, too?

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Amanda: I assume you’ve been in touch with sutton’s lawyers about the recording I made.

Michael: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. Uh-huh. Well, his sense is that the remarks his client made regarding richard nealon’s death, they don’t comprise a confession. In fact, they don’t establish guilt of any kind.

Amanda: Well, it figures that’s the position they would take.

Michael: That’s not all. It’s pretty clear they’re going to use the same legal strategy that you proposed before — in essence, trying to increase doubt by deflecting attention to possible suspects at newman and elsewhere.

Amanda: That is infuriating. My own argument’s being used to defend the man who had my father killed.

Michael: I take it you haven’t made any headway with your mother or you would have mentioned it.

Amanda: [ Sighs ] God knows my sister and I have tried. Naya refuses to acknowledge that sutton could be guilty. She’s even holding out hope that you won’t press any charges. Is that a possibility?

Michael: I intend to pursue this case.

Amanda: Okay.

Michael: But unless we find more substantial evidence, I cannot guarantee that I’ll be able to get the charges reinstated.

[ Chuckles ] Hey. Hey, hey, hey. After all, it is me, right? So you hang in there, amanda.

Amanda: I will try.

Michael: Okay. I’ll see you later.

Amanda: Imani, it’s me. Are you with naya right now? Good. I need to do something for me.

Ashland: You know, maybe this is all happening too fast, but i don’t care. Hell, I love that it’s happening so quickly, because only god knows how much time we have together. And the one thing I know for sure is I want that time to be glorious and I want to spend every moment of it with you, the woman I love. So, victoria newman… will you marry me?

Ashland: There you are.

Victoria: Hey. Where were you?

Ashland: I was meeting with a realtor about getting my various homes on the market. I took my time to give you a chance to absorb the shock of my proposal.

Victoria: Who was more surprised, I wonder, me or you?

Ashland: Let’s call it a draw. The impulse struck, and I felt no need to hold back, because i knew you wouldn’t either. You’ll give it to me straight, even if you’re thinking this is sheer lunacy on my part.

Victoria: Yes, I will.

Ashland: So let’s hear it. What are you thinking? Your heart is at the heart of everything you do.

Victoria: I’m not really sure how to react. I mean, you caught me off guard.

Ashland: My unpredictability tends to work to my advantage in business, but that might not be the case here. Even if you decide that marriage is out of the question, I won’t regret asking. It’s so exhilarating to feel the hope and the possibility and the adventure instead of the limitations of this damn disease.

Victoria: And I want that for you — that —

Ashland: Optimism.

Victoria: Yes. But we can’t ignore reality.

Ashland: No, we can’T.

Victoria: In terms of logical factors that support making a move like this, given the circumstances, I can’t really think of very many. But logic didn’t bring us to this point. We kind of threw caution to the wind — not that I have any complaints.

Ashland: But you will, though. Even if you don’t voice them. That day is coming. And this will likely all end in tears, as they say.

Victoria: In the meantime, this whirlwind romance of ours has really been the best, most intense thing that’s ever happened to me. And I don’t really want to rein myself in either. In case I wasn’t clear, that’s — that’s — that’s a yes.

Ashland: Did you say yes?

Victoria: Yes. [ Chuckles ] Yes.

Nick: Look, you are probably right about tara’s financial records being shady.

Phyllis: But probably?

Nick: I’m just concerned that this could just really backfire on you.

Phyllis: How?

Nick: It’s one thing to fly out to la and talk to all these people who know sally and to borrow her phone and send a fake text, but to hack into someone’s hard drive — it’s next-level and it puts you at risk.

Phyllis: I’ll be careful.

Nick: Careful may not cut it. If this gets out, if tara and sally find out what you’ve done, they’re gonna have a very powerful weapon to use against you. Why can’t you just go on investigating what they’ve done to summer?

Phyllis: Because no matter what kind of proof we get or theories I come up with, it might not be enough to take those girls down.

Nick: Seriously?

Phyllis: Yeah, seriously. I mean, I think jack is starting to realize it — everything that sally has done to get summer out of town — but I can’t be sure. I mean, he — he forgave her once. He’ll probably do it again. And he’ll go easy on tara.

Nick: Yeah, he’s — he’s probably not gonna want to risk alienating his grandson’s mother.

Phyllis: Exactly. So, honestly, we cannot count on jack and kyle. We can’t count on the abbotts.

Nick: That’s a good point.

Phyllis: And for reasons unknown to me, I don’t know why our daughter is not fighting for herself. I don’t know why. It’s up to us. We have to come up with something to neutralize tara. We have to do it, nick.

Jack: Tara, I am not standing here in judgment. God knows I have made my share of mistakes. Hurt people I care about deeply. I am not proud of that at all. I am proud of the moments I took responsibility. When I did, I learned this — people can earn trust and respect again, but it has to start with honesty.

Tara: Not everyone is as compassionate as you are.

Jack: I’m sure being married to ashland taught you to be wary, to never be vulnerable. You told him about your affair, and he utterly rejected you. You are on much safer ground now. Your harrison’s mother. That makes you a part of this family, always. And I think you know how much family means to me.

Summer: Okay, um, this was a mistake. I don’t think I should’ve called.

Kyle: Okay, you can do that. Hang up and leave me in the dark, but I’m going to find out the real reason you broke up with me, with or without your help.

Summer: Why can’t you just let this go?

Kyle: I’ve tried. Phyllis is the one who won’t quit digging, searching for evidence that tara and sally conspired against you.

Summer: [ Sighs ] I’ve begged her to stop.

Kyle: Why? If there was nothing for her to find, you could’ve just let her spin her wheels.

Summer: Come on, I know that this is hard for you to hear, but I made my own decision to leave you.

Kyle: I believe that, but the question is what kind of pressure were you under when you made it. Look, there’s more evidence coming out about this every day. Phyllis is never gonna stop, and your dad’s getting suspicious, too. The truth is gonna come out. I think I deserve to hear it from you. (Vo) single-serve fancy feast petites

Nick: You do realize the whole “should you or shouldn’t you” debate will be moot unless you can get through that firewall.

Phyllis: I mean, um, have we met? I mean, you know who you’re dealing with, right?

Nick: Is there anything I can do to help?

Phyllis: Really? Oh, my god, you’re so sweet. You’re volunteering to be an accessory to the crime.

Nick: Well, “sweet” is the last thing I’m feeling right now when I think about what tara and sally have done to summer’s life.

Phyllis: We’ll channel our rage together later, okay?

Nick: What do you mean?

Phyllis: You know what i mean. Okay, I downloaded this program, and it will get through the firewall soon like a force attack, you know?

Nick: That sounds promising.

Phyllis: Yeah, it is. It’s just gonna, you know, take a little, that’s all.

Nick: I mean, what are talking? How much time’s a little?

Phyllis: A few minutes. Hopefully a few minutes. And then we will get all the information we need to expose tara for the person that she really is.

Tara: Despite what everyone thinks, I didn’t stay with ashland because of his money or his status. Kyle back then — he was wonderful. But by the time we parted ways, I knew he wasn’t ready to be a father.

Jack: I agree with that. He had a lot of growing up to do.

Tara: Then, after my marriage was over and I came to him for help, [Sighs] He was so different. More mature, ready to settle down. Only with someone else. And I will admit, that was hard to see. To know that things might have been different if our timing hadn’t always been so off. But I pushed things aside. I kept my feelings locked up. And I smiled and I congratulated summer and kyle on their engagement. And I tried to mean it.

Jack: But something changed. What?

Tara: Sally. She guessed what I was feeling and pushed me to go after what i wanted, what harrison deserved. And she said she had a plan.

Summer: Don’t push this anymore. Please, kyle, do not make me say things that are only gonna hurt you.

Kyle: Do you think I’m not already hurting? If you’ve been telling yourself that I’m fine and I’m moving on, you’re way off-base. I miss you like crazy.

Summer: I miss you, too, but it doesn’t mean that it’s right for us to be together.

Kyle: Summer.

Summer: For your own sake, kyle, you have to stop coming up with these alternative scenarios for why we broke up.

Kyle: Why for my sake? What are you trying to protect me from? What could be worse than losing you?

Summer: It’s just a phrase, okay? I didn’t mean anything by that. Kyle, I have to go.

Kyle: Are you worried that i might lose harrison?

Summer: Why would you say that?

Kyle: It’s an idea my dad had. That tara was using harrison as leverage. Is that what happened? Charlie’s my little sidekick when it

Amanda: Thank you for joining me for lunch. My treat.

Naya: You don’t have to do that.

Amanda: I know I don’t have to. I want to. So how have you been?

Naya: A little tired lately.

Amanda: Is everything okay?

Naya: Well, for the past few nights, I’ve been having trouble falling asleep, and when i finally drift off, [Sighs] Sometimes I dream I’m back in that jail cell.

Amanda: Well, I’m really sorry to hear that.

Imani: We are both so grateful you were able to get her released. Right, mom?

Naya: I’ve been wondering about that recording you made of sutton. Did he know that he was being recorded? I mean, you’d have to admit that it would’ve been really clever of him to say just enough to get me released without incriminating himself.

Imani: He did incriminate himself. As far as I’m concerned, he proved his own culpability the minute he had you confess to a crime you didn’t commit.

Amanda: Yes, but naya’s right. The things that sutton said on that recording may not be enough to have the charges reinstated. I had a meeting with the da& earlier, and he conceded as much.

Naya: Does that mean my father will go free?

Amanda: No, I am confident that the trial will move forward.

Imani: I know you won’t be okay with it if sutton is acquitted.

Amanda: You are right about that. But I will not be out of options. I can still hit him with a civil suit for wrongful death — hold him responsible that way.

Imani: Mm, the burden of proof would be much lower in a civil case.

Amanda: Yes. And if he is found liable, it will be the final blow to his political career. The financial judgment alone will ruin him.

Naya: You can’t do that.

Tara: I wish to god I’d listened to you and kyle when you warned me to stay away from sally.

Jack: Oh, boy, I wish you had, too.

Tara: If there was a chance i could give my son a stable household with a mother and father who adored him, I was going to take it. And sally, she offered me that chance.

Jack: Tell me something, what exactly did sally propose?

Tara: Sally said she arranged to have summer get a fabulous job opportunity in europe. All I had to do was get her to accept it.

Jack: And how did you accomplish that?

Tara: I’m sure you can guess.

Jack: By threatening to take harrison out of kyle’s life if summer would just disappear.

Tara: You said you wouldn’t judge me, and you shouldn’T. I was only fighting for what i knew was best for my son.

Summer: I wanted to tell you. I did, kyle. I was going to that day at your dad’s house and you went upstairs to go take care of harrison and tara came down and she warned me that if I said one word about her threats, that she would take harrison the next day, no discussion, no compromise, nothing. She would just be gone. Kyle, I’m so, so sorry for hurting you. I hated hurting you. I hated lying to you, but i didn’t know what else to do. You couldn’t lose your son.

Kyle: You should’ve told me anyway. We could’ve come up with a plan, called lawyers, something.

Summer: No, I thought about it from every angle. There was no way out. Unless I was willing to be the reason that you lost your son forever, and I cannot live with that, kyle, but…that poor little boy, he is stuck all alone with that awful woman. He needs you in his life.

Kyle: Let me call you back.

Ashland: Well, that might take another 50 years, easily.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Okay. A toast to our golden wedding anniversary.

Ashland: Hear, hear.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: I’m thinking that we should probably keep this news between us. People love to pass judgment on things that they don’t understand, and I do not want you to deal with that.

Victoria: I’m guessing that certain individuals will think I’m taking advantage of your condition, like they accused me of during the merger.

Ashland: Thereby insulting us both.

Victoria: Well, I don’t give a damn what anyone else thinks. And when it to comes to the wedding, I don’t think we should run off and elope. I think this love is big and it’s bold and it’s death-defying.

[ Chuckles ] I think we should have an epic celebration.

Ashland: I love it.

Victoria: I mean, unless you don’t have the energy.

Ashland: On the contrary, having something to plan and look forward to is gonna keep me going. I love the idea. And I love you.

Naya: How can you even think of suing sutton for richard’s death? He’s an old man. His reputation has taken a major hit, which meant everything to him.

Amanda: Oh, yes, it did. It was far more important to him than my father’s life. And don’t you dare claim that you don’t believe he was guilty, because I know better.

Naya: Even if your grandfather was involved, do you really want him to lose what he spent his lifetime building? So vindictive.

Amanda: Well, that’s exactly what I want. Listen, I understand that you love your father, but can you please put yourself in my shoes for one second? Because I never got a chance to love my father because he was callously disposed of before we could even lay eyes on each other. Naya, are you really okay with sutton getting through this without suffering any consequences for what he did? Come on. Did you not care about richard at all, huh? Because he was the father of your first-born children.

Naya: I didn’t know what had happened to him. I thought the car crash was some terribly sad accident. I cried for days.

[ Stammering ] I still — I don’t want to believe it.

Imani: Mom, you don’t want to believe it, but you do. In your heart, you know that sutton is responsible.

Naya: If I admit that, would it be enough for you? Would you let go of this crusade? Let sutton live out his days in peace?

Amanda: No. It won’t be enough. But it could be a start for the two of us, to help heal this relationship.

Imani: Amanda will be here in a way that sutton never was.

Nick: How much longer?

Phyllis: I don’t know, eight minutes. It says eight min– now nine minutes. Oh, it’s going backwards. Did this program stall?

Nick: It’s taking too long. I mean, what happens if the program stops running and you haven’t learned anything new?

Phyllis: I don’t know. Do you have any ideas?

Nick: We need a backup plan. Can you think of any other way we can get into her financial records?

Phyllis: Well, that depends. You know, how criminal are you willing to get?

Nick: What are my options?

Phyllis: Alright, let me think. Um…we hire a forensic accountant and they pose as an irs agent.

Nick: [ Sighs ] That sounds like multiple felonies. What else you got?

Phyllis: Okay, an anonymous tip to chanccomm, stirs the rumor mill.

Nick: Thinking we need something more immediate.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Phyllis: It’s summer. Hey, babe, hi. Um, your dad’s here.

Nick: Hey.

Phyllis: How you doing, babe?

Summer: Terrible. You’re ruining everything. Why do you have to stir up trouble?! – Oh…oh. – What’s going on?

Amanda: So, naya, how was the snapper?

Naya: Hmm? Oh, oh, it — it was delicious. Thank you again.

Amanda: Well, you’ve been awfully quiet.

Naya: I just feel so terrible.

Amanda: About what?

Naya: Dragging you into this mess in the first place. I’m the one who suggested to sutton that he hire you to lead his defense team. I hope you know that I truly thought back then that my father was being unfairly accused. I never would have tried to trick you into defending your own father’s — m– even now, I — it’s hard for me to say the word. I grew up idolizing my father. Believing that — that he only wanted the best for me.

Imani: I’m sure amanda understands how difficult this has been for you.

Amanda: Well, of course I do.

Naya: I’m, uh — I’m gonna go fix my makeup. Excuse me, will you?

Amanda: Well, that was one hell of an admission.

Imani: Yeah, it was.

Amanda: I really never thought that that would ever happen.

Imani: I’m curious — did you mean what you said about filing the civil case, or was that just a tactic to force the issue with naya?

Amanda: I am serious about seeing that man in court.

Imani: I understand the symbolic value of doing that, but that would be hard on our mom. Maybe you should think about whether it’s more productive to build your own future than to litigate our grandfather’s past.

Amanda: Do you have a problem with me holding him accountable?

Nick: What’s going on, summer?

Phyllis: Why are you so upset?

Summer: I just got off the phone with kyle, and he said that you have been relentless, looking into why I left town, getting jack all worked up. Why would you do this to me? Why couldn’t you just drop it when I asked you?

Phyllis: Because I’m not gonna sit back and let those two girls manipulate my daughter and get away with it.

Summer: Well, that’s not your call.

Nick: Just hear your mother out, alright? She has come up with some very damning information.

Phyllis: Yeah, because, you know, you’re not denying any of this, but I don’t think you know how devious and repulsive those two girls really are.

Summer: What do you mean?

Phyllis: Well, did you know that it was sally who flew to los angeles and got eric forrester to recommend you for the job that you have right now. Did you know that? Mm. Yeah, I didn’t think so.

Summer: Okay, fine. I didn’t know that. I assumed that sally was involved somehow — it doesn’t even matter.

Nick: Whoa, when you say sally was involved, involved in what?

Summer: Fine, fine. It’s true, okay? I was forced to leave town.

Phyllis: By whom?

Summer: Tara. She threatened to take harrison away from kyle if I didn’t break up with him and take this job offer that she somehow knew about before it even happened.

Phyllis: Because she was in on it with sally, that’s why. Was I right? Was I right?

Summer: Will you please stop celebrating, mom? This is not a good thing.

Nick: Is the truth not a good thing?

Summer: No, dad, it’s not a good thing. I had good reason to keep this a secret. I was trying to protect kyle from losing his son. And now, because of you, jack guessed it and kyle called to question me and I wound up just blurting everything out, and now I have this horrible feeling that he’s on his way to go confront tara, and everything’s just gonna blow up. And if it does, mom, it’s because you wouldn’t stop.

Kyle: Hey, where’s tara?

Jack: She’s upstairs with harrison. We just had quite a talk.

Kyle: Yeah, I just found out from summer why she left. Tara bullied her into it.

Jack: I know. Tara just told me.

Kyle: Oh, now she’s being honest, as the walls are coming down?

Jack: I understand, you’re livid. I don’t blame you one bit. The two of you share a child. You are connected for the rest of your lives. You’re going to have to find a way to get past this.

Kyle: She forced summer to break up with me! She tried to wreck my life.

Jack: I hear you. Calm down.

Tara: Please keep your voice down. Do you want harrison to hear you?

Ashland: Let us go out on the town and celebrate.

Victoria: Oh, well, are you sure you’re feeling up to it? I mean, would it be better to just rest here before our flight home?

Ashland: I can do my resting on the plane. I will take it easy, I promise. I won’t take you to all of my favorite places in town, just maybe my top five.

Victoria: Not sure we’ll make it to all of them, but we’ll try to squeeze in as many as possible.

Ashland: That’s kind of our thing — never let a moment go to waste. Are you ready to go?

Victoria: I’m so ready.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ]

Imani: My first reaction was the same as naya’s — that it’s vindictive. Bringing a suit, whether or not sutton is guilty of a crime, tying him up in court where the legal fees alone could bankrupt him, it just —

Amanda: I take a strong —

Imani: Please, just let me finish. That was my first reaction. You have to remember that I was raised in the same distorted environment my mother was. And any criticism of our grandfather, it sets off warning bells. The fact that there’s an actual threat of consequences for his actions? It feels downright dangerous. The more rational part of me knows this is the least of what he deserves.

Amanda: Well, that’s very insightful of you.

Imani: You grew up without a family, and I don’t mean to minimize that hardship, but there were definitely some things in the ames household that you were lucky you didn’t have to deal with.

Amanda: Yeah, imani, I’m sure it wasn’t easy all the time.

Imani: All I’m saying, I hope that you can be patient with our mother and me. It’s gonna take some effort to learn to separate the reality from the misconceptions that we were raised with.

Amanda: Listen, [Scoffs] I know that sutton is a smooth operator. He’s honed his skills over a lifetime. Even I was taken in by him at first. I felt this pull to want to please him, to live up to his lofty expectations. To soak up all his praise.

Imani: One of his most powerful tools.

Amanda: Sutton knows how to find your vulnerabilities and exploit them. He knows exactly which buttons to push. So I do have an idea of how challenging it was for you and naya to shake off that need for his approval. He’s trained you to prize it above all else. So I want you to know that i appreciate that you are willing to try.

Imani: We have to stop letting him influence us. I realize that. And I think, in time, naya will get there.

Amanda: You know what this means to me, don’t you? I mean, to have a relationship with my sister, my mother. It’s new, so I’m trying. But it’s incredibly precious.

Kyle: How could you do this to me?

Tara: I’m sorry. It was wrong.

Kyle: Oh, well, that’s that. As long as she’s sorry. All the hours you spent consoling me over my breakup when you’re the one who caused it.

Tara: I believed I was doing the best thing for our son.

Kyle: No, no, no, do not make this about harrison. This is about what you wanted and the hell with anyone who got in your way.

Jack: Time out, time out. You need to take a break. Calm down.

Tara: There’s no coming back from this, is there? So where does that leave us? What happens now?

Phyllis: Summer, your dad is right. The truth is out now, and this is absolutely for the best.

Summer: Really? Will you still be saying that when tara disappears with kyle’s son?

Phyllis: It’s not gonna happen.

Summer: How do you know? You’re not a judge. You have no power to stop her, none.

Nick: I still cannot believe the sacrifice you made for kyle.

Summer: Well, now it’ll all have been for nothing.

Phyllis: It’s not for nothing. I’m digging into tara’s past.

Phyllis: Uh, I’m sorry. Can I get back to you? I just got a huge surprise. Yeah. Right. Okay. Yeah, we’ll talk later.

[ Inhales sharply ] Mm! What are you doing here?

[ Laughs ] Why didn’t you call me?

Nick: I wanted to surprise you.

Phyllis: You did.

Nick: Who were you talking to?

Phyllis: No one.

Nick: Mm.

Phyllis: No one, no one.

Nick: No, no, no. It sounded like it was important.

Phyllis: No, it’s not important. You’re important. I’m so happy to see you. I want to show you how happy i am. Come on. Don’t you want to be happy?

Nick: Yes.

Phyllis: Ohh.

Tara: You want to know if you’re going to learn something about me that’s gonna make you or kyle regret your decision to let me move in here?

Jack: I need to know.

Tara: I’d like to say no, of course not. I mean, with my current complications, though, I can’t predict the future. No one can, and I am hardly perfect.

Jack: Phyllis is throwing around some pretty wild theories about you. Tara, we’re parents, and as parents, there is nothing we won’t do for our kids. Including sometimes pushing the envelope, doing the unexpected, doing things we might one day come to regret. It can happen to anyone.

Kyle: Who’s out to ruin your life, sally? I’m curious.

Sally: Well, I’m assuming you talked to jack. And just when things started to get back on track for us, phyllis started interfering, and this time, he’s actually listening to her, of all people.

Kyle: Dad’s known her a lot longer than he’s known you.

Sally: Yeah, then he should know that she’s a conniving, manipulative liar. Stealing phones and sending fake text messages, using security camera footage to generate a story where there isn’t one? When does it stop? Phyllis has been out to get me from the second I came to genoa city. She decided that I wasn’t good enough for her ex, and she’s not gonna stop until she keeps us apart.

Kyle: That’s what you think this is all about? You and my dad?

Sally: Of course.

Kyle: Then why do you sound so defensive?

Sally: Because victims sound defensive.

Kyle: Okay, maybe you’re right. You could be genuine and as innocent as you say you are. But from my experience with you, you’d sound exactly the same if you were lying through your teeth.

Ashland: Last but not least.

Victoria: The bedroom. Very smooth.

Ashland: Well, that was not my intention, I promise.

Victoria: Gosh, this is just incredible. I mean, this entire penthouse is nothing short of a masterpiece. And the views! I mean, you must be the envy of the entire building with that wrap-around terrace.

Ashland: Well, you know you’re doing something right when other people are jealous.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Oh, my gosh, is — is that an anne schwartz?

Ashland: You know her work?

Victoria: I can’t tell you the last time I was this close to one of her paintings. I mean, the — the use of light and color, and she just draws you in to all her paintings. It’s like you’re a part of the picture and not just a voyeur. It’s — are you okay?

Ashland: Yeah, I’m fine. Really, it’s passing already.

Victoria: Maybe we should’ve postponed the trip. Flying took too much out of you.

Ashland: It’s important that we came. I just needed to take care of a lot of loose ends, and business to attend to, houses to close. And I can’t wait to walk into my midtown office and introduce everyone to their new ceo.

Victoria: Well, I’m very excited to meet everyone. But would you please do me a favor?

Ashland: Ask away.

Victoria: Look, you can pretend that you’re okay to the rest of the world, but not with me. I want your authentic self.

Phyllis: You’ve been better.

[ Laughs ] I’m just kidding. No, um, you have to go away more often.

Nick: Why?

Phyllis: Because that was fun. That was really great.

Nick: It really was. I mean, I loved hanging out with summer in milan, and noah has got london dialed in, but I’m so happy to be here with you.

Phyllis: I’m happy to be here with you. Do you mean that?

Nick: Can’t you tell?

Phyllis: Do you want to prove it?

Nick: I’m sure I’d come up with something. But first, what I’d like is for you to tell me why you were in such a hurry to get me up here.

Phyllis: Um, wasn’t it obvious?

Nick: Eh…don’t get me wrong. Loving the welcome home party, but honestly, you couldn’t have gotten off that phone down in the lobby faster if you tried.

Phyllis: Because I was excited.

Nick: Then you changed the subject when I asked you about it.

Phyllis: Well, what are you insinuating, that I’m up to no good?

Nick: Really? After all this time, you have no idea how well I know you.

Phyllis: Alright. I have a story to tell you.

Sally: I wish I could find the right words to make you understand that I am being attacked for no good reason.

Kyle: Remember who you’re talking to. I’m not just jack’s son. I’m summer’s ex. Phyllis may not have proof about the stuff she’s saying about you, but if I had to do a blindfold test about who was telling the truth, well…

Sally: So it just doesn’t matter what anyone says about me, it’s just automatically true?

Kyle: No, you’re automatically suspect.

Sally: Okay. You don’t trust me. So be it. There’s nothing I can do about that, but give me one good reason that justifies believing phyllis over me.

Kyle: Maybe I don’t have any evidence at the moment, but you better hope I never find any.

Ashland: One of the reasons for me coming here was to select a few of the items that really mattered to me and have them brought back to genoa city.

Victoria: I hope that painting made the cut.

Ashland: Well, the initial plan was to travel light and just bring back what was important to me. You know, I’ve been so busy, i never really took the time to look at that particular piece. But if you like it, that’s all i need to hear. It’s coming back. So now that I can really see it, thanks to you, it’s totally revealed to me.

Victoria: Well, what about your home in long island?

Ashland: Oh, there’s definitely nothing of value for me out there. The hamptons house was tara’s domain. Do you know that house was fully furnished before I even set foot in the door?

Victoria: So this penthouse was your favorite.

Ashland: Oh, nothing compares. I’ve always preferred it here. Manhattan has always been my base of operations, and tara was always spending the entire season out at the beach house. Little did I know, that made it a lot easier for her to have an affair with kyle.

Victoria: You know, second-guessing your decisions is just a waste of time. All you have is this moment and the next one and the one after that.

Ashland: So you’re saying that I should take it step-by-step, let go of the past.

Victoria: Precisely.

Ashland: Now, I’ve always been a man who strategizes 5, 10 years down the road, and that planning has always been the key to my success. Right now, all I care about is finding the recipe for happiness for as long as I have left.

Victoria: You want to make the most of it.

Ashland: Big, intricate plans do not interest me in the least. Being here in the moment with you is what feels really right. You know, it’s like finally looking at that painting, taking a good, hard look and seeing it for the first time… and being awed by its beauty.

Victoria: Weren’t you just a little fatigued earlier?

Ashland: I told you, I’m alright. Everything is always better when I’m with you.

Jack: Look, sally —

Sally: No, jack, please, before you say anything, just hear me out.

Sally: This is almost the exact time and place where we were supposed to meet for our date tonight. And here we are. Is it too much to hope that maybe you’ve reconsidered and you came to find me. Because that’s the jack that i know. The man who is fair and considerate and who would never judge without knowing all the facts. The man who I found so compelling and attractive the first time we met. And I still do. Look, if I did something wrong, I totally understand you pushing me away the way that you did before, but I didn’T. And I think deep down you know that. Or you would not have let me get this far. I’m right, aren’t I? We were having so much fun, weren’t we? What we have is far too special and rare to just throw away for no good reason.

Phyllis: So, those two little girls — those malicious little girls did something — they did something to drive summer out of town.

Nick: And they wanted her gone because…?

Phyllis: Because it’s so convenient. I mean, one got her job at jcv, the other one, she’s playing house with kyle.

Nick: Man, whoa.

Phyllis: “Whoa” is right.

Nick: Do you have any proof, or is this just a theory?

Phyllis: Well, I’m working on it. I’m working on it. I mean, what I did is I sent tara a text from sally’s phone, saying something like, “phyllis know about us,” just to see if tara would show up, and, oh, she was there in minutes.

Nick: Just go back to the sally’s phone thing. You had it. How did you get it, exactly?

Phyllis: Not important. Not important how I did it.

Nick: Seems important.

Phyllis: No, not very important. The point is they had this whole confrontation in the elevator, and I took that footage and i gave it to kyle and jack.

Nick: You think that’s crossing the line?

Phyllis: No, I don’T. They were in a public place. It’s on them. They should know what they’re doing.

Nick: Okay, right. Um, but it’s not really proof. Right? It’s just guesswork and circumstantial evidence.

Phyllis: So what? I have my outrage. That’s what I have. I have my fire in my belly. You should have that, too.

Nick: I’m as upset —

Phyllis: This is about our daughter.

Nick: I’m mad, too, okay? If this really happened, if they really did this to summer, i cannot believe it, but you need more than theories.

Phyllis: You want irrefutable proof, right? You want it, jack wants it.

[ Sighs ] I want it. I’m working on it.

Nick: Okay, how are you gonna make that —

Phyllis: Oh, I’ll tell you. I mean, I have this idea. Remember in italy, you said that I should take the next trip?

Nick: Yes.

Phyllis: Well, I’m gonna do that. I’m leaving for la tonight.

Phyllis: Eric forrester and angelina marchetti. That’s who I was talking to in the lobby.

Nick: And these are the people who are gonna fill in the blanks for you?

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah. I’m hoping that they can give me the proof I need.

Nick: Alright. Talk me through this.

Phyllis: Alright. Well, it’s connected, okay? And just… [ Sighs ] How did summer get that job at marchetti? She’s running one of the biggest fashion houses in the world. How did she get that? She didn’t even apply.

Nick: She, uh — she was heading up jcv. That’s a very high-profile gig. Maybe her name just popped up on the right person’s radar.

Phyllis: Maybe. Or tara and sally were behind it. I mean, don’t underestimate sally spectra. And the other one, honestly, she cheated on her husband, she faked paternity. She can’t be trusted.

Nick: I agree.

Phyllis: Good.

Nick: Here’s what I don’t get, though. Our daughter is a fighter. Why would she give in to these two? She would fight to stay. She would retaliate.

Phyllis: What if she felt she couldn’t? What if sally and tara made it impossible for her to fight back? I mean, that would show you how far they’re willing to go to get what they want.

Jack: I appreciate all the kind things you said about me. And you’re right, I don’t like to judge people until I have all the answers. Everyone deserves a fair break and — this part I want to underline — there is a reason that I welcomed you back into my life.

Sally: Why?

Jack: You intrigue me. I haven’t been this attracted to anyone in a very long time. You’re bright, you’re funny, you’re talented, you’re spontaneous, you’re exciting, and you are very attractive. And I wish with everything in me that was enough. It’s not. I don’t know for sure if all of the things that phyllis alleges about you are true. I hope they’re not. But the fact that they could be, that someone could walk up to me and say, “sally did this horrible thing,” and immediately, that would give me pause. I would wonder, and that’s enough for me to not want to go any further with this.

Sally: So you can’t have anyone with a sullied reputation in your life?

Jack: Oh, sally, I have been there, done that. I know it sounds unfair, and maybe I’m wrong, but — but that’s the way it is.

Sally: No, okay, look, okay, so you didn’t trust my answer about the fake text message that phyllis sent from my phone to tara. Okay? And that’s really frustrating, but, I mean, i can’t force you to believe, okay? So we’re just gonna set that aside for one second because the real problem isn’t about the video of me and tara in the elevator, because without audio, we could be talking about anything.

Jack: That’s true, but you cannot deny you lied to me about tara showing you the text.

Sally: The actual issue here is whether or not I cheated my way into the top spot at jcv, and I did not. And there is proof of that. You can even ask lauren. She will tell you that summer recommended me for the job, which she would not do if I had done all of the things that phyllis said that I was doing.

Jack: I know lauren believes in you, and I know why. I also know what summer said. What — what you don’t understand, what — what I am struggling with right now is that doesn’t change who you are. It does not change anything I’ve said tonight.

Tara: Lauren, this has been absolutely enlightening, as always.

Lauren: And for me, acquiring a fabulous shoe line, I’m like a kid in a candy store.

Tara: Is this what it’s like to go shopping with you, fall in love with a dress and end up buying the boutique?

Lauren: Well, it has happened before, but… this is exactly how I want your new american customer to feel, like they have discovered the hot new thing.

Tara: I am excited about the possibilities.

Lauren: And I want to center the marketing around you.

Tara: Are you sure we should do that, given all the recent gossip surrounding me?

Lauren: Well, with the proper branding, you know, we can position you as a woman who’s had a tough go, had a few knocks, but graceful enough to come back and looking fabulous while doing it. You know, I want something powerful and aspirational.

Tara: Well, I haven’t really looked at myself that way before.

Lauren: Well, you need to start. This is about a lifestyle — accent on style.

Tara: I like it. You know, I think that this partnership is really going to pay off for both of us.

Lauren: Yes, me too. And you know that I have a team of accountants going through all the numbers that you provided my company with, just as the final stages of the acquisition process.

Tara: Yeah, I’m sure that’s going smoothly.

Lauren: Well, the reason i bring it up is I got a message on my way over here. I guess there was some documents that we requested that we haven’t received yet.

Tara: That’s odd. You should’ve received everything by now.

Lauren: Yeah, so I e-mailed you a list of the outstanding documents.

Tara: Well, I will take care of it personally. Thank you. And I hope that it doesn’t delay our arrangement. Given my divorce, I need a new immediate source of income.

Lauren: Yeah, of course i understand, but I’m sure you can appreciate I need to finish this part of the due diligence process.

Tara: Of course. I will have everything released to fenmore’s A.S.A.P.

Lauren: Good. Well, I am thrilled to be working with you, and I think we are onto something completely amazing.

Tara: I agree. I’m very excited.

Lauren: Me, too. Alright, I’ll talk to you soon.

Ashland: I’ve changed my mind about bringing back the things i consider important to genoa city. I’m keeping that painting, which means something me now because it means something to you. Everything else can go. I don’t want to bring back anything else from this place.

Victoria: But I thought that you said that —

Ashland: You talked to me about forgetting the past, and you were right. I need to let go of everything that happened before.

Victoria: Before what?

Ashland: Before you. I don’t want any complications from my previous life clouding things. From now on, I want to focus on you and working with my doctor to get as much time with you as I can. My divorce is final. I’m freed from my past life because you freed me.

Victoria: No, you give me too much credit.

Ashland: Hardly. You don’t give yourself enough. Do you realize how powerful you are right now?

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Ashland: What you have pulled off. I am in awe. You make me want to be as healthy as I can get. I think about what could happen, what we could accomplish together, even if time is short.

Victoria: I don’t want to dwell on that.

Ashland: Well, then look back at the first day we met.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] When I made the pitch to buy your media division.

Ashland: My decision to sell brought us into each other’s orbit. And it was life-changing. You made me feel like I want to be absolutely and fully alive for every moment I have left.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] What’s all that?

Tara: Oh, just business.

Kyle: Something up? Everything okay with harrison?

Tara: No, he is sound asleep.

Kyle: Then what’s going on? I can tell something’s up.

Tara: [ Sighs ] I just got a call from ash’s assistant.

Kyle: Mm.

Tara: He’s gone to new york. I knew that he was closing down his offices now that his company has been absorbed by newman enterprises. But it turns out that, now the divorce is wrapped, he is, you know, purging a lot of things in his life, like our shared homes.

Kyle: Mm, and that upsets you?

Tara: He’s putting them all up for sale and liquidating the contents. I mean, I put a lot of love and attention into the manhattan penthouse and the place in the hamptons. And I know I don’t have a claim to them because of the prenup, but it still hurts. I mean, I didn’t even get to see them one last time to say goodbye.

Kyle: Hmm. You had to know this was coming.

Tara: Yes, but it’s still abrupt. Even though it was inevitable, still a little jarring.

Kyle: Pretty emotional.

Tara: That’s putting it mildly.

Kyle: To know that someday you’d be essentially homeless, outside of this situation, that’d be pretty terrifying, make you worried about your options.

Nick: You know I’m in your corner, alright? I always am. I’m just trying to come at this with fresh eyes.

Phyllis: I know. You want proof. I know you do. Ugh, I want it, too. I mean, you’re right to ask these questions. You are. That’s why I’m going to la to lock this down, you know? To see why summer’s hand was forced.

Nick: Okay, so your plan is to go behind our daughter’s back to her boss and ask her if there’s any shenanigans with the job offer.

Phyllis: Well, yes.

Nick: Do you think that puts summer in a bad position?

Phyllis: I’ll be careful.

Nick: How you gonna do that?

Phyllis: I have my ways.

Nick: Look, I just think that summer would have told us if there was anything wrong, but i was with her in milan. She was very happy. I saw it with my own eyes.

Phyllis: I did, too.

Nick: But I was with her a lot longer, and I’m telling you, I would’ve picked up on something if there was anything wrong, but she seems overjoyed by her new role.

Phyllis: I know, but she wouldn’t automatically come to us and tell us what’s wrong. You know, maybe she’s embarrassed. You know, maybe she’s humiliated. Maybe she’s —

Nick: She’s what?

Phyllis: I don’t know! Maybe she’s something, but i want answers and I know you want answers, too. And something is wrong. Something is wrong! I can feel it in my bones.

Nick: Just wondering, you know, if you created this whole thing because you just miss our daughter and you want her to come back home.

Nick: We can say anything to each other, right? That’s the way this relationship works best, when we’re keeping it real. Now, you may have wanted to keep that to yourself, but you didn’t, you came clean.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] And this is my reward.

Nick: I’m just being honest here. Summer seemed really happy when she was in milan.

Phyllis: I know, I know she did. But maybe she felt like she had to put on a happy face, you know? Like, she felt everything. She left her job, she left us, she left her fiancé. I just — I want to make sure it’s what she really wanted to do.

Nick: Well, I’m concerned that she’s not gonna see it like that when she finds out what you’re up to.

Phyllis: Well, it doesn’t matter, and why are you asking me all of these questions? I don’t expect this from you. If I don’t do this, I’ll never forgive myself.

Nick: Well, then you’re going to la.

Phyllis: There’s one last flight out, so… to go.

Nick: Well, you have my full support. And I’m gonna show that to you by coming with you.

Phyllis: What? Do you mean that?

Nick: Yes, we’re gonna nail this thing together, alright? Plus, I’m already packed from the trip I just came home from.

Phyllis: I mean, it’d be great, but I don’t know, I think I should do this alone.

Nick: Why?

Phyllis: You know, eric forrester will think we’re ganging up on him, and if you stay here, you can keep me in the loop.

Nick: Well, I don’t like being separated from you again so soon, but you got a point.

Phyllis: Alright. It’s settled?

Nick: I’ll stay here.

Phyllis: Okay. So…uh, do you want to give me one last kiss?

Nick: Yes.

Phyllis: Make it good this time.

Nick: The best I got.

Tara: Of course it was unnerving. I never hid that. Harrison and I have had our lives turned upside down, and i know — I know I brought it on myself because of my affair with you. However, that doesn’t make it any less daunting. But I don’t know what you’re driving at, what you want me to say.

Kyle: I’m only commenting on what I’ve observed. You didn’t mention how important these houses were to you before now.

Tara: Do you have any idea of the changes I’ve gone through over the past few months? My friends, my homes, my marriage — all gone. It’s like my whole life was just erased.

Kyle: Okay, I’m aware how difficult things have been for you.

Tara: But at the same time, i am deeply grateful for all the things that have taken the place of what I’ve lost. Things that I could never have expected, things that I couldn’t have planned for — a new family to love our son, a family that accepted us with no questions asked. I know how lucky I was. And I would never do anything to jeopardize it. Anything.

Sally: Just tell me what to do. What to say to make you change your mind. Give me another chance.

Jack: Sally, I —

Sally: Okay, yes, maybe we rushed back into things too quickly. Okay, but there’s a simple fix. We just slow things down. We can begin with the occasional breakfast and long conversations over the phone, and over time, you will see that there is nothing to any of these claims about me and you will feel safe. And in the meantime, we can just be enjoying each other’s company, putting building blocks in place for something special. And eventually, whenever you’re ready and confident that I will never knowingly hurt you, we can take stock, see where we are, and get the happiness that we both deserve.

Jack: You make it all sound very tempting. And I can see that it’s important to you, but…I’m not sure you’re seeing it from my perspective. I saw the person you are once before. And recently, I convinced myself that maybe I could forget that. That was a mistake. I can’T.

Ashland: He’s secured an appointment for me to meet with dr. Ferguson tomorrow.

Ashland: A leading small-cell carcinoma specialist. He’s been involved in all the latest treatments and some rather promising experimental trials.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] That’s great.

Ashland: I was hoping that you would come with me.

Victoria: I don’t know about that. I mean, your doctor, he’s gonna be asking you all kinds of personal questions. Are you sure you want me there?

Ashland: Absolutely. You’re the one who inspired me to fight this disease, and i want this doctor to see who’s driving me to live as long as i can.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Of course I’ll come. I’m all yours. I’ll be there with you every step of the way.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to put you on the defensive, but it seems I have.

Tara: What did you expect? All this talk about me losing my home and how stressed I must have been when my life blew up? And then earlier, you went and mentioned the very real possibility that I will spend the rest of my life alone.

Kyle: Not fun topics to discuss, but they can’t be ignored.

Tara: Would we even be having this conversation if phyllis hadn’t accused me of some — ugh — agenda?

Kyle: Are my questions really that disturbing? They seem natural enough to me.

Tara: It’s how you’re studying me when you ask them, like you’re trying to gauge whether to trust the answer or not.

Kyle: I want to be able to.

Tara: Then stop listening to phyllis and her outlandish theories. I mean, I can literally feel the ground shifting beneath my feet the more you and jack listen to her. I mean, he’s suspicious, you’re interrogating me, and this is how it starts.

[ Huffs ] She plants a seed and it just grows and it grows, and it becomes something else and i can’t live this way and I won’T.

Phyllis: Thanks for taking me to the airport.

Nick: I want to spend as much time with you as possible.

Sally: Wow, you’re really leaving your hotel to go out of town. How will this place function while you’re in — where’d you say you were going?

Phyllis: I didn’T. Ooh, you have to be my eyes and ears.

Nick: I will. Please be careful.

Phyllis: I will.

Nick: And come home with more than speculation.

Nick: And when you do come back, with proof…?

Phyllis: I mean, I’ll have proof. I’ll have enough proof to blow this out of the water. And then the abbotts will be rid of tara and sally, and then our daughter can come home.

Billy: Sharon, good to see you. It’s been a while.

Sharon: You seem like you’re in a really good mood today.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: Any particular reason why?

Billy: Actually, I could give you a laundry list. ChancComm is thriving. Lily is fantastic. I’m spending more time with my kids. And Victor is out of town. Doesn’t get better than that. Oops-a-daisy. I’m gonna take that back. Why do you let riffraff like that hang out in your fine establishment?

Sharon: One person’s riffraff is another’s valued customer.

Billy: Oh, come on. Are you kidding me?

Sharon: Come on, Billy. You know, the truth is out now. Adam was framed by Chelsea. He had nothing to do with poisoning Rey. Doesn’t that at least make you question if maybe you’ve misjudged him in other ways, as well?

Billy: No, it doesn’t. Not at all. And I wouldn’t be so quick to say that he didn’t have anything to do with Chelsea’s attack on Rey. He drove her to a point of madness. That’s what he does. That’s a pattern. And I’m surprised that a mental-health professional as yourself doesn’t see that.

Victoria: Oh, hey. You’re up already.

Ashland: Hi.

Victoria: I thought you were gonna take it easy, sleep in a little bit.

Ashland: Well, normally at this time of day, I’d have hit the gym by now, taken a breakfast meeting, had a couple of conference calls under my belt. Obviously, I can’t stick to that routine now, but I don’t intend to sleep the day away, either.

Victoria: I know. I was just hoping maybe you would take it easier here than you would in a hotel room.

Ashland: Well, that was the plan. But before I slip into semi-retirement, I need to take care of a long list of things back in New York.

Victoria: Oh, you didn’t mention that you were planning a trip.

Ashland: I have to go back and, uh, settle my affairs, as they say, collect a few items from my office and check in with a couple of people, as well. I won’t be gone long. I wouldn’t even be going at all if it wasn’t for the fact that there are certain things I need to handle personally. I’m sure you can understand that.

Victoria: I do. I understand completely. Um, this trip is…about more than just tying up loose ends. You’re going back for the last time to say goodbye to the life that you lived there.

Lily: Johnny, come on! Are you ready? Johnny, come on! We have to get going! Do you have your shoes on? Hey. Okay. So, since your sister went to camp for her sleepover, I’m gonna take you to camp on my way to my meeting, alright? What’s wrong? Your stomach still hurt?

Johnny: Mm-hmm.

Lily: Okay. Uh, that’s okay. That’s okay. You can stay home today, alright? Hannah — she already said that she would be available in case we needed her, so I’ll just call her.

Johnny: Lily, can you stay home with me?

Elena: So nice of you to treat me to breakfast.

Nate: Well, you deserve it after the night you had.

Elena: I know. I can’t believe that second shift at the E.R. was so busy. Mm, it must have been the full moon.

Nate: Well, you should have called me. I would have gladly pitched in.

Lily: You finally got a day off. And after all the hours you’ve been working, I was not gonna interfere.

Imani: Well, good morning, you two.

Nate: Hey.

Imani: Nice running into you again. Lucky me — I saw that handsome face just last night, and now I get to see it again.

Devon: Hey, breakfast is almost ready. You want some orange juice?

Amanda: Uh, y-yeah, in a minute. The most amazing thing just happened. Imani called me with the best news. She has been up all night talking to Naya.

Devon: What’d she say?

Amanda: She said that she thinks that she finally got through to her. Naya is on her way back to Genoa City, ready to recant her confession.

Imani: Nate was so sweet last night. He really helped me with the dilemma that I was facing.

Elena: Mm. You must mean the partnership opportunity with Amanda. Yeah, he told me all about it. Sounds like a great opportunity.

Imani: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: Did you tell me that in confidence? I hope you don’t mind I shared it with, uh, Elena.

Imani: No, not at all. I wouldn’t have expected anything less.

Elena: You know, it’s so funny. The exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. I needed career advice from Nate. I got a job offer in Baltimore, and as tempting as it sounded, I kind of hoped that Nate would ask me to say. And do you know he did exactly that. He made it clear he wanted me to stay right here by his side.

Imani: Mm. Wow, what a sweet story.

Elena: Isn’t it, though?

Imani: Well, um, if you’ll excuse me, I need to put in my order. The café con leche is so good here. Don’t you think?

Victoria: So, are you sure that you’re feeling up to making this trip?

Ashland: Oh, of course I am. I mean, you may think a farewell tour is a bit self-indulgent…

Victoria: No, of course not, not at all. I mean, I understand how necessary and meaningful this trip is to you. And I’m — I’m very proud of you for facing reality head on. If it were me, I would be tempted to hide or escape.

Ashland: I don’t believe that for a second. I can honestly say I have never met a woman as gutsy as you. Come with me.

Victoria: To New York?

Ashland: Mm-hmm. I mean, you can meet the members of your new executive team in person, and then I can take you to all of my favorite places.

Victoria: Are you sure about that? I mean, wouldn’t you rather have someone with you that you’ve known longer? I wouldn’t be offended if you wanted to take an old friend…

Ashland: Okay, okay. Stop. I need you to hear this, that there is no one else I’d rather have with me than you. But I understand if you’re not comfortable going. It’s totally up to you.

Victoria: I would love to accompany you.

Ashland: Well, that’s exactly what I wanted to hear.

Sharon: Maybe it’s because I’m a trained professional that I can see things you can’t. And, believe me, I’m not in denial. I know more than most the things that Adam has done in his past.

Billy: And you still believe that he can be trusted?

Sharon: I’ve seen a legitimate change in him. Not so different from some of the changes that I’ve seen in you.

Billy: Oh, now, I’m gonna stop you right there and give you a chance to change that sentence because there is no way that you’re putting me in the same category as that guy.

Sharon: Okay. Well, then explain it to me. What — what makes you both so different? I mean, why are your mistakes forgivable and Adam’s are not?

Billy: Well, there’s plenty of reasons. For one, he’s unrepentant.

Sharon: That’s not true. He’s shown a lot of remorse, and he’s determined to change his ways — and not just in words. He’s made a lot of sacrifices, and he even risked his own personal freedom to save my daughter’s life — twice. Not once. Twice.

Billy: Well, there it is. That’s the difference between me and you. You look at him, and you see a man who saved your daughter’s life twice. I look at him as the man who took my daughter’s life from me forever. But I guess I can take some satisfaction in knowing he’s alone. It means the article that we did on him worked perfectly. Some people have heeded the warning and are steering clear. Maybe one day you can do the same. There are better ways to spend your time and energy than defending that snake.

Devon: Have you considered the possibility at all that Naya’s just saying the things to Imani that she wants to hear?

Amanda: Oh, of course. And that’s why I won’t sleep easy until these charges are officially dropped. But Imani is pretty convinced that she got through to our mother.

Devon: I bet she was shocked when she heard that recording of Sutton.

Amanda: You know, I don’t even think that that will convince Naya that Sutton killed my father, especially since he didn’t flat out confess.

Devon: Yeah, but it was close, though.

Amanda: I — I do understand why this is so hard for Naya, though. You know, she’s idolized her father for so long. She built her whole life around his career and his reputation. I mean, Naya and Imani worked on every one of his campaigns, one after the next after the next —

Devon: Well, I — I do have to give credit to Imani for even breaking free of this mind-set, you know? And she definitely wouldn’t have been able to do it without you and your influence.

Amanda: And that’s why I feel really responsible for my little sister. I need to make sure that she has some strong footing beneath her when she gets out of this.

Devon: Hey, look who woke up. Slept so long, you missed breakfast. It’s gone.

Moses: Aw, man.

Devon: I’m just playing. There’s more food in the kitchen for you.

Moses: Got me. Got me. Hey, I just — thanks again for yesterday. That was really cool of you to introduce Faith to TigirLily.

Devon: Oh, yeah.

Moses: God, did you see the look on her face? That was so awesome.

Devon: You know, I’ve, um — I’ve been trying to tell him that he has the coolest brother in the world, and I think he’s finally realizing it.

Amanda: Finally.

[ Laughter ]

Billy: All alone, I see. You know, I heard Chelsea left town and took your son with her. I believe she did the right thing. I mean, she just poisoned someone and was just released from a mental facility, but I do think that your boy is safer with her than he is with you — or his grandfather.

Adam: Why are you obsessing about my family’s whereabouts? Don’t you have enough things to do to keep ChancComm afloat? Or is, uh, Lily doing all the hard work so you can continue to churn out that tabloid trash?

Billy: ChancComm’s in a great place, actually, thanks to our amazing team…and due to the fact that you decided not to weaponize Newman Media and point it directly at us.

Adam: Gee, I wonder where my thank-you card is.

Billy: Mm.

Adam: I guess it got lost in the mail.

Billy: Yeah. You’re not gonna get a thank-you card because I just realized why you’re playing the good guy, and it has nothing to do with me or ChancComm.

Adam: Is that so?

Billy: All the things you’ve done the last few months — donating a kidney, backing off ChancComm, sitting in this café right here to have your coffee and act all sad and alone — that’s you worming your way back into Sharon’s life, trying to convince her that you’re a changed man.

Adam: And of course you know better.

Billy: I do know that if you were really trying to be a good person, that would mean putting someone else’s feelings in front of yours. That would mean realizing that Sharon is better off without you.

Adam: If you say so.

Billy: I do say so. ‘Cause she’s in a good place. She’s got a good husband that adores her. She’s happy. Now, if you could just get away from this sick obsession, maybe do the right thing and actually give a damn about her… you’d leave her alone.

Adam: It is really fascinating how your mind works. It couldn’t be that I’m just sitting here having coffee, like you. No, you have to read an ulterior motive into it because if all these other people are right and I have turned over a new leaf, how would you continue to justify your own vendetta and obsession?

Billy: You think you’re an innocent victim, you’re misunderstood. Unfortunately, that crap works on Sharon.

[ Door opens ]

Devon: So, you’ll let me know how everything goes with Naya?

Amanda: Yeah, of course.

Devon: I’ll see you later, alright?

[ Door closes ]

Devon: Oh, man. Dang, you made that food disappear. Sheesh.

Moses: Hey, man, I’m a growing boy.

Devon: I can see that. A well-connected growing boy.

Moses: Well, thanks to you, man. You really hooked it up with that special appearance by Kendra and Krista.

Devon: Oh, well, I knew it was a special occasion ’cause Faith means a lot to you.

Moses: Yeah. I’ll never forget the look on her face, yeah. You know, TigirLily’s music — it really speaks to her.

Devon: That’s the beautiful thing about music, is that it can connect to people on an emotional level.

Moses: Kind of like what you said about listening to dad’s favorite music.

Devon: Yeah.

Moses: I feel closer to him, you know, like I can understand him a little bit better.

Devon: When you know what moves somebody, that’s like an open window right to their soul.

Moses: I never thought about music like that before.

Devon: Well, yeah, and all art, really, no matter what it is. It’s just about seeing the world from another person’s perspective.

Moses: Yeah. I get it. Kind of like empathy.

Devon: That’s it. Exactly.

Moses: Deep. Well, sorry I haven’t been here to, you know, talk about this with you more, you know, so you can drop some more knowledge.

Devon: Oh, gosh. Come on. Don’t be sorry, man. You’ve been busy living your life. You got your volunteer work at the hospital, your internship at AskMDNow. Getting a real taste of what being a doctor’s like. What’s wrong? What’s that face for?

Johnny: I win!

Lily: What? Again!? Are you cheating? Oh, my gosh! Okay, you know what? That’s it. I’m gonna win this time.

Johnny: Lily, you know my mom’s friend Ashland?

Lily: Yeah. I do. I do. I know that he’s gonna live at your house for a little while, right?

Johnny: Yeah. Daddy says he’s sick, but not like me.

Lily: That’s true. He’s not sick like you. He, um — he’s not contagious at all, and no one in your family will get it.

Johnny: Will he ever get better?

Lily: Um…you know, I know that the doctors are doing everything that they can. I know your mommy really likes him and wants him to get better. And, listen, anytime you have questions like this, you can always talk to your mom and your dad — and me, too. Okay?

Johnny: I hope you and Daddy always stay together.

Imani: Well, it’s always good to see you, Nate.

Nate: You too. Hey, by the way, is everything okay? You left so suddenly last night after you got that call. I thought it might have had to do with your mother’s case.

Imani: Well, I’m hoping after today there won’t even be a case against my mother anymore. She was the one who called. She was in a panic about what she should do. And fortunately, I was able to persuade her that she was making a huge mistake taking the blame for Richard’s death. And now she’s agreed to officially recant her confession.

Nate: Ah. Congrats on getting her to come around. I know how tough it can be as a doctor to get someone to follow advice, even when it’s absolutely in their own best interest.

Imani: Well, maybe when you get to know me better, you’ll learn that I can be very persuasive when I want to be.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Imani: Oh, that’s Amanda. She’s asking me to head to the courthouse. Well, I have to run, but it was really good seeing you.

Nate: You too. [ Chuckles ] What?

Elena: [ Chuckles ] You mean to tell me you haven’t noticed Imani hitting on you?

Nate: I think that’s overstating it. She’s a little flirtatious.

Elena: [ Laughs ] A little?

Nate: [ Scoffs ] I’m already taken. What does it even matter? [ Chuckles ]

Elena: Oh, really? Tell me more.

Nate: You know, I would love to, but you’ve had such a long night. I need to get you home to bed.

Elena: Well, maybe I just got a second wind.

Nate: Then you don’t want to go home to bed?

Elena: Oh, no. I definitely do.

Sharon: Glad you didn’t let Billy get to you.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] He was clearly itching for a fight, but I wasn’t gonna give him the satisfaction.

Sharon: Yeah, he spoke to me first before coming out here. He seriously doubts that the changes you’re making are real. So I assumed he said as much to you.

Adam: Oh, he didn’t stop there. He accused me of putting on an act, specifically for you.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] Why would anyone think that I would be so gullible? You know, I’m the only person who was right about you. I knew that you didn’t poison Rey. And yet some people want to carry on treating me like I don’t know what I’m talking about.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, don’t take it too personally. I am the one that nobody trusts. Well, I shouldn’t say nobody. Nick is being open-minded. Faith has come a long way. And Victor has stood by my side.

Sharon: See? You have made a lot of progress.

Adam: Look, I won’t deny that it is important to me that you believe in me and you see how hard I’m trying to change. But it’s not like Billy said. I’m not trying to lure you back. Like you said, you could see right through that. Besides, it was never my better angel that drew you to me.

Sharon: What do you mean by that?

Adam: Am I wrong? I always thought it was my, uh, wilder side that you found more compelling.

Sharon: Um… I don’t know where you would get an idea like that. I mean, after all the time and energy I spent trying to help you become healthy and become the person you want to be, who you were meant to be — that’s — that’s more what was pulling me in.

Adam: Sure. Yeah. Yeah. I see your point. I mean, look at who you’re with now. As far as I can tell, I don’t think Rey even has a dark side. So, whatever thing you had for bad boys in the past, you are clearly over it.

Sharon: Yeah. All I ever wanted was to be with the guy in the white hat. [ Sighs ]

Victoria: I have to run. There’s a few things that I need to wrap up at the office if we’re gonna be flying out to New York tonight.

Ashland: Well, I’ll take care of all the travel arrangements. Um, my office will handle everything.

Victoria: Okay, but just make sure you take it easy, too, alright? You’re gonna need your strength. I’ll see you later.

Ashland: [ Exhales heavily ] Nope

Moses: No, everything’s cool.

Devon: Yeah?

Moses: Really. Um, I’m just, uh, grateful for all the opportunities.

Devon: I hear a big old “but” on the end of that. Are you just — are you not feeling medicine anymore? ‘Cause it’s fine if you’re not. That’s, you know — the reason that you have all these opportunities is to figure out if you would enjoy being a doctor. And if you’re not excited about it anymore or if it depresses you, then that’s fine. You’re not obligated to feel any way. That’s the point of this experiment, is to figure it out.

Moses: Yeah, it’s — it’s not really any of that. It’s just different from what I thought it was gonna be like.

Devon: Okay. Does this have anything to do with when Nate had his allergic reaction and you felt helpless about it?

Moses: Yeah. I mean, that’s part of it, but only part. I’ve seen what it’s like to be a doctor, and part of me just feels like I’m not cut out for it.

Devon: You know, like I said, that’s fine. If it turns out that a career in medicine isn’t for you, there’s nothing wrong with that. You’re not letting anybody down. I’m just happy that you’re even asking the question of what you want to do at this age.

Moses: Yeah. And lately I’ve been thinking about maybe checking out some other possibilities.

Devon: Oh, really? Like what?

Adam: There she is — the woman of the week. I hope, uh, Nikki passed along my congratulations.

Victoria: Yes, she did. I should congratulate you, too.

Adam: I cannot imagine what for.

Victoria: With Dad out of town, you have a little breathing room to run Newman Media the way that you see fit, without him hovering over your shoulder. You should enjoy it while you can.

Adam: Mm. Well, unlike you, I enjoy working with our father. I really value his expertise.

Victoria: Oh, I’m sure that he values having someone around to lap it up.

Adam: You clearly enjoy flying solo. I mean, that is why you picked a business partner that you can get rid of in a few months. And exploiting that man’s condition that way was a bit ghoulish. But I got to hand it to you. It was extremely advantageous for Newman Enterprises.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Naturally, that’s the way you would see it.

Adam: And how everybody else would see it, if I, the monster of Genoa City, had done the same thing. They could call me predatory and worse. But you are sweet, delightful Victoria, so you get to ride in like the angel of mercy and save Ashland in his last days, no matter how masterfully you manipulated your way into Locke’s company.

Victoria: Ashland has never been taken advantage of by anyone. This has been a business deal, a very damn good business deal. The scenario that you’re presenting right now is preposterous.

Adam: Mm. Well, you don’t have to get defensive. I’m not criticizing. I’m just pointing out the irony. You’ve turned out a lot more like Dad than I think you would care to admit, a lot more than I ever thought you would.

Victoria: You know, you have always underestimated me. And that’s foolish because I’m the one that you should fear the most.

Adam: I don’t want to play against you. I have no interest in fighting with you anymore.

Victoria: Well, it’s a little late for that, don’t you think? You’ve provoked me, you’ve taunted me, you framed me. But most of all, you underestimated me — when I’m the one that you should fear the most.

Adam: Oh. So, I can get under your skin. That’s good to know.

Michael: All here. Thank you. Wow, what a surprise seeing you all here. Amanda, Imani, Mrs. Benedict.

Imani: Mom, let’s sit. I’ll buy you a drink.

Naya: Alright.

Michael: Look, I’m getting a sense of why it was so difficult for your mother to come forward and admit that her confession was false. When I spoke to her, it actually seemed like she felt guilty, like she had let Sutton down and not the other way around.

Amanda: Yeah, I — I think that it’s too painful for her to even admit to herself how thoroughly Sutton has betrayed his own family.

Michael: I don’t think I have to tell you this, but you know it would be helpful if Naya cooperated with the newly reopened investigation into Sutton.

Amanda: Yes, I will keep working on that, Michael.

Michael: Thank you. I’ll leave that in your hands for now. See you later?

Amanda: Mm-hmm.

Michael: Okay.

Imani: I ordered you a drink.

Amanda: Thank you.

Naya: Why were you talking to him? You’re not planning to help him go after Sutton, are you?

Amanda: I’m gonna do what I can to get justice for my father. That is the least that I owe him. And whether you would like to face it or not, you owe him the same thing.

Elena: Sharon. Hey. Mind if I grab an iced tea?

Sharon: Just one?

Elena: Yeah.

Sharon: I saw Nate go upstairs with you earlier.

Elena: Ah. Yeah. He’s gone already, but he will be back soon.

Sharon: I’m so glad that things are working out between you two.

Elena: Yeah, I am, too. But how are you? How are you and Rey? When I talked to Lola, she said you guys had a great time in Miami.

Sharon: Uh, yes. Yeah, we did. We had a great time.

Elena: [ Chuckles ] Has Rey had any lingering side effects from the thallium poisoning?

Sharon: Um, no. He’s completely recovered. In fact, he felt so well, he actually went back to work right away, and I think he’s working too much.

Elena: That’s great.

Sharon: His current assignment is escorting Chelsea to see her mother in Minnesota.

Elena: Wait. What?! He was assigned to escort the woman who tried to kill him?

Billy: Those flowers were supposed to be a surprise for when you got home.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: I didn’t expect anyone to be here.

Lily: Yeah, well, Johnny’s poor little tummy was still hurting him, so maybe it is a bug, but I think that maybe your theory is right and he just needs a little extra nurturing during this time.

Billy: Well, either way, your motherly instincts were firing on all cylinders.

Lily: Well, I just did what my mom used to do for me when I had an upset stomach, which was crazy eights and ginger tea.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Thank you for being so sweet to my boy. I know you had a busy morning. You could have just called Hannah.

Lily: Well, I was going to, but Johnny asked me if I could stay with him, and I couldn’t say no to that adorable little face.

Billy: Mm, he gets that from me.

Lily: [ Laughs ] But, no, I’m glad that we had some one-on-one time. And we had fun. You know what he told me?

Billy: Oh, I could only imagine.

Lily: That he hopes that you and I stay together forever.

Billy: Did he?

Lily: Yeah.

Billy: Like father, like son. I’m with him. You’re the best.

Lily: But he did also bring up Ashland and his illness. So, I know that you and Victoria don’t want to scare them too much by telling them a lot, but I do think that he’s pretty intuitive and knows something serious is going on.

Billy: Yeah. Okay. Well, thanks for the heads-up. I’ll talk to Victoria and make sure that we are on the same page about how to handle that. Death and dying — never a fun conversation, especially not for a kid when they’re so full of life. It’s a hard concept to grasp. But we don’t have a choice. We have to figure out how to tell him.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Victoria: Ashland? It’s me! I left — Ashland? Ashland!

Sharon: So, because Chelsea’s mother is in the hospital, Michael Baldwin decided that it would be okay for her to go and visit her mom, only with the accompaniment of a law-enforcement officer. And for some reason, he determined that that person should be Rey.

Elena: And Rey doesn’t have a problem with this at all?

Sharon: Rey doesn’t hold a grudge against her. Yeah, a few days before he left, I could tell that he felt sorry for her. And then when he calls, he really seems like he’s impressed with the progress she’s made.

Elena: I mean, I suppose that’s a good thing.

Sharon: I think he just likes making the point that Chelsea’s doing better because she got away from Adam. He still wants to lay the ultimate blame for everything that happened at Adam’s feet, and that’s just so…unfair.

Elena: Well, I guess considering he is the victim, he gets to decide who he wants to hold responsible.

Sharon: I guess. You know, the irony is, I’m the one who encouraged Adam to let Chelsea go out of town with Connor, mostly so that I just didn’t have to think about her anymore. But now I’m getting constant updates on her day-to-day progress.

Elena: Ugh. Ugh. Well, hopefully this assignment will be over soon and Rey will be back home to you.

Sharon: I so can’t wait for that to happen.

Elena: [ Sighs ] Thanks for the tea.

Sharon: Sure.

Elena: Bye.

Devon: Thanks for coming, man. You should take a seat.

Nate: Of course. [ Sighs ] What’s up?

Devon: So, Moses has been confiding in me. And he was talking about making some changes to his volunteer schedule.

Nate: Yeah? It’s pretty tight now. I’m not sure he can fit anything else in.

Devon: Well, that’s the thing. It’s not about adding more. He wants to cut back on some of his hours at the hospital so he can spend time in the recording studio with me ’cause he’s interested in seeing how it all works.

Nate: Hold up. Uh, I’m confused. I thought Moses was here to learn about being a doctor.

Moses: Yeah, that was the plan, but I’ve been having second thoughts. And it’s not that I don’t want to be a doctor. I just thought it might be worth checking out some other options, too.

Nate: Was this your idea?

Devon: No, it definitely wasn’t my idea. We were just talking about it earlier, and he brought it up. And I said we should get your opinion.

Moses: I don’t want to upset you.

Nate: I’m — you’re not — I’m just surprised. You know, give me, um — give me some time to think about this, and then we’ll talk.

Naya: Look, I’m telling you I want nothing to do with any investigation into Sutton. I mean, as it is, I’m conflicted about recanting my confession. That alone will make people think that my father is guilty of murder and that I only confessed to protect him.

Amanda: Didn’t you? I mean, let me ask you something, Naya. Why would Sutton pressure you into confessing if he wasn’t guilty?

Naya: We both thought that I might get a lighter sentence and that it would be a lot easier for me to endure than it would be for him.

Amanda: Easier? Giving up your freedom, your family, your friends, your reputation? You thought that that would be easier?

Imani: Mom, you have to see how self-serving and wrong that is. For him to put that kind of pressure on you is just unconscionable.

Naya: I agree. And that’s why I finally admitted that my confession was false. But that doesn’t mean that I will ever believe that my father is capable of murder. So, you can push all you want. But I will do nothing to implicate my father.

Ashland: Oh, thank you.

Victoria: I wish you would let me call an ambulance. What if you had a heart attack?

Ashland: No, no, no, no, no. It was nothing like that. I remember that feeling. I know the difference. Thank you.

Victoria: Still, you should get checked out.

Ashland: I refuse to spend what time I have left sitting in a damn hospital getting prodded and poked and dealing with doctors day and night. I’m so sorry. It must have been frightening coming home and finding me like this. I will get some anxiety medication. I’m pretty sure that that’s all it is. I’ve had anxiety attacks in the past when I’ve been under a great deal of pressure, so…

Victoria: Yes, I know. You’ve certainly been dealing with a lot the past few weeks.

Ashland: I’m more stressed than ever before, figuring out how to let go of all the things that have been the focus of my entire life.

Victoria: I’m sure.

Ashland: I’m pretty certain that these recent attacks are more connected to the pressure of the situation than the actual illness, so don’t worry. I’m not on my way out just now.

Victoria: I know you lived for your company, and I — I was just trying to help alleviate some of the pressure and the stress and take that off of your plate. But I feel like maybe it’s had the opposite effect. Do you think this merger was a mistake? Should we not have done it?

Adam: [ Breathes deeply ]

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Victor: Yeah, son?

Adam: Dad. How, uh — how’s your trip?

Victor: Good. You know, uneventful.

Adam: What, uh, about the weather?

Victor: Beautiful weather. You know, it’s a beautiful city, great to walk around in. So, why are you calling? Something happened or what?

Adam: Uh, no worries. Everything is, uh, fine here.

Victor: You just called to say hello?

Adam: I had an interesting encounter with Victoria today. It gave me an idea that I wanted to run past you.

Victor: Huh.
