Days of Our Lives Update

Sarah finds Brady at the hospital and tells him how bad she needs a hug as Brady asks what’s wrong. Sarah complains that she hated having to confront Holly about the pills that Tate found in her bag. Brady encourages that she might have prevented Holly from having a full on relapse. Sarah hopes that with some rest, Holly will be more open to her help.

Holly escaped from the hospital and staggers to the town square where she runs in to Gabi. Gabi thought she was still in the hospital. Holly claims she was just discharged and thanks her for the flowers. Gabi asks if she’s sure she is alright. Holly says that she is and that it was nice to see her as she rushes off past her.

Sarah goes to Holly’s hospital room but finds she is gone.

Leo goes to Gwen’s room at the Salem Inn and knocks on the door until Holly comes by and then collapses in Leo’s arms.

Kayla goes to EJ’s office at the hospital and tells Cat that she came to talk to her.

EJ is frustrated at the DiMera Mansion as Rita comes in and asks what’s wrong. EJ complains that he’s going to lose the hospital to Gwen if he doesn’t do something to stop her. Rita then asks if he’s sure he didn’t already do something to stop her.

Leo sits Holly down in the hall of the Salem Inn and asks her what’s going on. Holly responds that she’s fine and just needs a second. Leo notices her hospital ID bracelet and questions if she was officially released. Holly asks Leo to just help her to her room. Leo suggests getting her back to the hospital but Holly says no. Leo asks if there’s anyone he can call for her, like Sarah. Holly pleads with him not to call Sarah and says she just needs a second to rest and she’ll be fine. Leo tells her to stay put and he’ll go get her some water and a cold compress. Leo then walks away while making a call on his phone.

Sarah runs back to Brady in a panic, telling him that Holly is gone and that she took her clothes and left the hospital. Sarah worries about how mad Holly was at her and Tate that she could’ve gone looking to score. Brady tells her not to go there and sends Sarah back to Holly’s room to look for clues to where she could’ve gone while he will begin a search.

Gabi runs in to Xander in the town square. Gabi says she has nothing more to say to him. Xander tells her the truth is that he had nothing to do with what happened at Gabi Chic. Gabi doesn’t believe him and points out that he also denied involvement in setting up Johnny for the lawsuit. Xander tells Gabi this conversation isn’t over as he gets a call from Sarah. Sarah tells Xander that Holly skipped the hospital without being discharged when she wasn’t well enough to go. Xander asks what he can do to help and mentions that he’s in the town square, so Sarah tells him to check the stores and ask if anyone has seen her. Sarah then asks Xander to go back to the Kiriakis Mansion as well. Xander says he will check in with the staff and assures that they will find Holly as he hangs up. Gabi then informs Xander that she just saw Holly a few minutes ago heading in to the Salem Inn, so Xander heads that way.

Rita tells EJ that word on the street is that Gwen is missing and asks if he had a hand in that. EJ responds that he did not touch Gwen. Rita says she has no doubt that he didn’t do it, but that things in his orbit have a way of vanishing with no touch required.

Kayla tells Cat that she’s sure she has heard that the board has voted to remove EJ and accept Gwen’s offer to buy the hospital. Cat says she understands the deal isn’t finalized. Kayla confirms it isn’t but she wants to get a jump on things and talk to her about her job. Kayla brings up that Marlena speaks very highly of Cat and she trusts her instincts, so when EJ leaves, she would like Cat to stay on in her current position as assistant to the owner of the hospital. Kayla says that Gwen will need someone by her side who knows how things operate. Cat responds that she’s flattered but she already has a job lined up.

Sarah returns to Brady and tells him that Holly took all of her belongings and she has Xander searching the town square while she’s going to head home. Brady tells her that he has Tate, Steve, and Shawn all on the lookout. Brady assures Sarah that they will find Holly as she couldn’t have gotten far.

Leo returns to Holly with a bottle of water but she says water is the last thing she needs. Gus then arrives as the EMT to check on Holly. Holly complains that Leo promised he wouldn’t call anyone. Leo says he promised not to call Sarah, so he called 911 and just his luck, here’s Gus. Gus asks Holly what’s wrong. Holly claims nothing and that she’s just tired. Leo explains that she could barely stand up and he couldn’t in good conscience just leave her in the hallway. Gus checks Holly’s pulse and confirms it’s weak. Leo adds that she left the hospital without being discharged. Holly calls him a traitor. Gus thinks it’s best to take her back to the hospital but Holly says she doesn’t want to go back. Leo doesn’t know what’s going on with her but asks her to let them take her back so Sarah can check her out. Xander arrives and finds Holly. Holly is relieved, saying he’s finally someone who will listen to her. Holly tells Xander that Sarah thinks she’s on drugs but she swears she’s not using again. Xander tells her that he believes her and just wants her to be safe. Gus says it’s time to go with the ambulance. Holly repeats that she doesn’t want to go back to the hospital but Xander tells her to trust him and promises she will be okay, so she reluctantly gives in. Gus and Leo help Holly up while Xander agrees to ride in the ambulance with her, so Gus exits with Xander and Holly while Leo remains in the hall.

Sarah complains to Brady that she can’t stand here and do nothing, feeling she has to be out there looking for Holly. Brady promises that she will be best here since she will need to check on Holly if she comes back. Sarah then gets a text from Xander that he found Holly and they are on their way in the ambulance, leaving her and Brady relieved.

Kayla questions Cat already having another job lined up. Cat reveals that if EJ goes, she’s going with him because he offered to keep her on as his personal assistant and she accepted. Kayla calls that a choice. Cat says she knows how most people feel about EJ, but she’s gained a lot of experience and learned a lot working for him. Kayla argues that Cat thinks she knows EJ, but she hasn’t been around him or his family very long while she knows from experience what the DiMeras are capable of. Kayla hopes that Cat and the people she cares about don’t get caught in the crossfire. Cat appreciates her concern and assures that she’s walking in to this with her eyes wide open.

Rita shows EJ the numbers in the worst case scenario of losing the hospital. EJ says he knows losing the hospital means he’ll lose everything. Rita points out that EJ won’t be broke since he’ll have the money from selling the hospital as well as his inheritance, but admits that times are tough. EJ brings up that Stefano taught him the hardest challenges bring forth the sweetest triumph.

Leo comes out of the Salem Inn and runs in to Gabi in the town square. Leo tells her that he has news about the counterfeit purses, but Gabi stops him to ask if he has seen Holly. Leo confirms he just did in the Salem Inn and that she was in terrible shape. Gabi mentions that she saw her too and she looked like she was about to pass out. Gabi asks if Leo helped her. Leo responds that he doesn’t like to throw the word “hero” around, but says Holly is lucky she ran in to him.

Sarah informs Brady that the ambulance arrived and Holly is in stable condition as Brady hugs her. Xander comes over so Sarah says she’s so glad he found Holly and asks how he knew where she was. Xander calls it just right place, right time. Sarah says she will keep them both posted as she goes to the exam room. Xander then tells Brady that Holly told him that Sarah accused her of being on drugs again and asks what that’s about. Brady brings up Xander bringing Holly her bag. Xander confirms that she asked him to and asks what that has to do with anything. Brady then reveals that Tate found pills in her bag. Xander argues that can’t be and questions if Holly would use again.

Sarah joins Gus in Holly’s hospital room. Holly argues that she didn’t overdose and isn’t on drugs. Sarah questions why she left the hospital then. Holly complains that she was tired of being treated like a junkie and she’s not going to stay here and be called a liar, especially by someone who claims to love her.

Rita points out to EJ that at least it seems they have contained the issues with the tainted Coriseal. Rita adds that it couldn’t have been easy using his former stepdaughter for a scapegoat. EJ says he takes no pleasure in making it look like Holly relapsed on drugs, but he had no choice. Rita says she understands and that Julie already had the well decontaminated. EJ says that worked out, so they will have to believe that Holly chose to have the drugs in her system. EJ adds that while they are helping her, he’ll be helping Holly with her Amy Choi lawsuit and the unfortunate fallout from her drug habit. Rita notes that it seems to have worked in throwing focus away from DiMera Pharmaceuticals and Coriseal. EJ says they should be grateful for that because if the truth ever came out, he’d go to prison and it would be the end of DiMera.

Kayla wishes Cat luck. Cat reminds her there’s still no guarantee the sale of the hospital will go through. Kayla goes over the board finding EJ’s actions unethical and leading them to have him removed. Cat asks if EJ can appeal their decision. Kayla says the hospital assured he wouldn’t have a leg to stand on, so it would be about EJ and Gwen’s negotiating price. Cat notes that she doesn’t have any meetings on EJ’s calendar. Kayla says she and the board need to meet with Gwen first and hopefully soon, but they haven’t been able to reach her. Kayla adds that Gwen didn’t show up to their meeting and is not returning her calls now which she finds a bit surprising.

Leo sits with Gabi and tells her that Holly was in rough shape but he was able to convince her to back to the hospital. Gabi is glad that Holly is getting the help she needs. Leo tells Gabi that he did a deep dive on the counterfeit bags and set up a meeting with a contact. Gabi says she appreciates that, but she already figured out that Xander is behind it.

Xander questions Brady thinking that Holly wanted him to bring her bag because there were pills in it. Brady says it’s hard not to think that. Xander asks about the belief that she ingested the Coriseal from the well water on Smith Island. Brady says he wanted to believe that too, but the well sample came back showing only arsenic which means Holly probably took those opioids willingly. Xander questions all their theories about EJ just being wishful thinking because they can’t prove it. Brady says it seems that way.

Sarah tells Holly that she loves her but she can’t help her unless she tells the truth. Gus informs Sarah of the tests he took and how Holly showed no signs of drug use. Gus declares that he believes Holly was just dehydrated. Holly then remarks that at least someone believes her.

EJ tells Rita that once the Coriseal investigation ends, there will be nothing tying him or DiMera to the contamination. Rita adds that if he gets from Gwen what he paid for the hospital, they’ll be back in business. EJ responds that if he’s forced to negotiate with Gwen, he will make it a living Hell for her and profitable for him. EJ tells Rita that Cat will be there soon, so it’s time to make herself scarce. Rita guesses EJ must be sad to be losing Cat. EJ reveals that he’s offered Cat a job as his personal assistant if the hospital goes south. Rita question where that leaves her. EJ assures Rita that she is irreplaceable. Rita then asks EJ if he plans on making Cat his personal assistant, how personal does he intend on it getting?

Cat asks Kayla why Gwen would suddenly drop off the radar right when it’s time to finish purchasing the hospital. Kayla wonders if EJ may have done something to dissuade Gwen. Cat doesn’t think she has to worry about that since it’s a business deal. Kayla remarks that business can become very personal, especially when the DiMeras are involved. Cat decides she will reach out to Gwen and check on her. Kayla tells Cat that if she changes her mind about the job, her door is open as she exits the office. Cat then calls Andrew Donovan and asks him to put a trace on Gwen’s phone ASAP.

Leo asks Gabi how she figured that Xander was the counterfeiter. Gabi explains that the only thing new in Gabi Chic was the shipping contract with Titan, so she connected the dots to Xander. Leo thinks that’s circumstantial and that Xander would be smarter than that. Gabi remarks that Titan is hanging on by a thread so Xander is desperate and maybe got sloppy. Leo calls it possible but thinks she needs definitive proof. Gabi asks if Leo can get that for her. Leo agrees to investigate and declares that if it does lead back to Xander, this could be the end of him as CEO. Gabi remarks that she will enjoy every second of his downfall.

Xander tells Brady that he wishes they got the second sample of the well water before Julie had it decontaminated. Brady points out that it still wouldn’t explain the pills in Holly’s bag. Brady says he’s looked at every possible explanation and every road leads back to that bag and the pills.

Sarah tells Holly that they are just waiting on the latest round of blood work and that she will stay overnight. Holly argues that she wants to go home. Sarah questions why she was so desperate to get out and what was so important to go to the Salem Inn. Holly responds that it wasn’t to meet with her dealer if that’s what she’s thinking. Holly says that she needed to go somewhere to be alone and not be judged. She declares that she needed to get away from Tate, Brady, and mostly from Sarah. Sarah asks Holly who she will talk to if not her because she has to talk to someone. Holly asks for Xander or EJ since they don’t think she’s some lying druggie.

EJ tells Rita that there’s no need to concern herself with he and Cat. Rita suggests he exercise caution because they both know there are some parts of his business that are very sensitive right now. EJ assures that Cat won’t find out.

Cat asks Andrew to let her know if he gets any hits on Gwen. Cat adds that she’s looking at a different angle on the EJ investigation because it’s possible that EJ has done something to get Gwen out of the way. Cat calls it another item on the list of things they’re trying to nail EJ for. Cat adds that the closer she gets to EJ, the closer they get to being able to do that. Cat declares that if she finds what she’s looking for, they may just be able to shut down EJ DiMera once and for all.

Sarah pleads with Holly that she’s not ready to be on her own and says it’s dangerous for her to leave until she’s stronger. Holly wants another doctor because she doesn’t want to see her anymore. Sarah agrees to find someone else if it means Holly stays at the hospital, so Sarah exits the room.

Xander tells Brady that there must be more they can do to help Holly. Sarah comes over and says there is because Holly is refusing to talk to her or Tate, but she did say she would talk to Xander or EJ because they are the only ones who haven’t accused her of lying. Xander agrees to go talk to her now. Brady tells him that it’s important that he gets her to come clean as it’s the only way they can help her and they know addicts can be convincing. Xander heads to Holly’s room. Brady hugs Sarah as she laments that she wishes she could save Holly but she won’t even talk to her. Brady encourages that Holly is just angry but she will realize that Sarah loves her and is just trying to help her.

Holly cries in her hospital room, asking why won’t anyone believe her.

Gabi tells Leo that she knows they’ve had their differences in the past because she didn’t trust him as she was worried he would hurt Javi which he did, but she knows he regrets it and now she’s glad to have Leo by her side. Leo hates that Gwen was scammed and wants to make sure nobody else suffers at the hands of this criminal. Gabi appreciates that and says she hoped to break the news to Gwen about Xander, but she hasn’t been able to get ahold of her. Gabi says that Gwen hasn’t answered her texts or voicemails. Leo adds that Gwen hasn’t even read his texts and that’s not like her.

Cat goes to the DiMera Mansion and joins EJ in the living room. Cat informs EJ that Kayla came to see her to tell her that she would still have her job at the hospital once EJ was gone, but she told Kayla that she is loyal to EJ. EJ says he’s very pleased to hear that and adds that he hasn’t given up on the hospital just yet. Cat notes that Kayla mentioned trying to schedule a meeting with Gwen, but they haven’t been able to reach her. Cat asks when EJ last heard from Gwen. EJ says it was a couple days ago. Cat wonders why Gwen would suddenly go off the radar like that which EJ calls a good question.

Lani goes to make a delivery from the Bakery at the Salem Inn but is surprised when it’s Eli answering the door as they kiss.

Foster goes to the book store to see Julie and tells her that he’s feeling better and that he’s sorry about missing the concert last night. Foster then asks how he can make it up to her.

Kristen meets Lexie in the park and asks how she’s feeling. Lexie admits she feels worse by the hour, but she’s concerned about Kristen because of EJ’s plan to punish her by sending her to the DiMera private island. Lexie asks if she figured out what she’s going to do. Kristen responds that she does have an idea, so Lexie asks if she trusts her enough to share.

Xander startles Philip at Titan and excitedly tells him that Kristen told him that Stefano’s inheritance has come in. Xander adds that their next loan payment isn’t until next week so they have plenty of time to get the money from Gabi. Xander mentions it being a little odd they haven’t heard from Gabi, but says she’s probably out celebrating which is what they should be doing. Xander goes to pour some scotch when Gabi arrives. Gabi tells Xander not to get too excited as she announces she is rescinding her offer to bail out Titan and she’s decided to keep every cent of Stefan’s inheritance to herself.

Eli wishes Lani a happy anniversary as Lani questions him being in Salem early. Eli confirms that his boss let him off early and confirms he got someone to cover her shift at the Bakery so they could be together. Lani says she should’ve known when she was told to make a special delivery at the end of her shift. Eli says he was working on this undercover operation. Lani says it’s mission accomplished as they kiss.

Julie tells Foster that it worked out perfectly as she invited Marlena and they had a wonderful time. Foster reveals that if she’s free next week, he got them tickets for the next concert in the square series which is the music of Irving Berlin. Julie responds that she’s sorry but she’s going to have to miss that one.

Philip questions Gabi practically begging him to take her money and now just changing her mind. Gabi says she has good reason. Philip doesn’t care and argues that she can’t renege because they had a written contract. Gabi responds that she learned her lesson before and had a morality clause included. Xander says they’ve given her no reason to invoke that while Gabi argues that she is certain they stole her Gabi Chic designs to create shoddy knockoffs which is highly amoral and reprehensible. Gabi tells them it’s game over.

Kristen assures Lexie that she trusts her and thinks they can help each other. Kristen says Lexie wants to spare her family the trauma of watching her die again and to find somewhere where they won’t find her. Kristen asks if Lexie has figured out where that is. Lexie admits she hasn’t yet. Kristen tells her that she has an idea. Kristen doesn’t want Lexie to be alone and frightened when the end is near, while she needs to find a way to escape unnoticed. Lexie asks what one thing has to do with the other. Kristen says it’s everything and she thinks it could benefit them if they switch places. Lexie questions how this could even work since no one would confuse Kristen for her. Kristen says they won’t have to and explains that she gathered intel from a staff member on the island. Kristen states that EJ believes everyone working there is loyal to him, but he forgets that she resided there for quite some time. Kristen adds that a staff member told her that everyone working on the island is supposed to expect a shipping container with EJ’s sister in it, but he didn’t specify which sister.

Philip questions what Gabi is talking about. Xander says has no idea. Gabi argues that they abused their shipping contract to get her designs first and went through Basic Black to make counterfeits being sold all over the world. Gabi says it was their perfect plan to take revenge on her while making a gigantic profit from her work. Philip turns to Xander and asks if Titan really needed another scandal. Xander says to slow down and tells Gabi that he’s terribly sorry that someone stole her work. Xander adds that he can’t speak for Philip but swears he had nothing to do with it.

Lexie tells Kristen that whoever is responsible for putting her in the shipping container must know which sister he’s targeting. Kristen argues that EJ will have one of his minions who will be under strict orders from EJ alone and won’t be in touch with the island staff, so they just need to find the right time to switch places after she’s kidnapped and thrown in the container and before the container arrives on the island. Lexie calls it a clever plan but thinks the truth will get out at some point. Kristen says by then, it won’t matter as she just has to buy enough time to get far enough away to live another day. Kristen declares that EJ will think she’s neutralized and will be unaware that she’s on the move, so he will be the one who won’t see it coming.

Eli and Lani joke about Eli pulling off his plan. Eli then surprises Lani with an amethyst necklace for their sixth anniversary. Lani says her gift for him is at home, but she does have a little surprise for him, so she has him close his eyes.

Foster asks Julie what’s wrong. Julie reminds him that Doug was a singer and he particularly loved the tunes of Irving Berlin and would sing them to her. Foster completely understands why she wouldn’t want to go to that concert. Foster says he’d react the same if she asked him to go to the tulip festival as he used to go every year with his late wife. Julie suggests Foster could ask Marlena to the concert, since she enjoyed the Verdi concert so much. Foster questions if Julie is trying to set him up with Marlena.

Lexie asks Kristen why go through all this trouble instead of just taking off and disappearing before EJ disappears her. Kristen responds that EJ is probably having her watched and he would just hunt her down if she escaped. Kristen encourages that if they switch places, Lexie will get to live out her final days in a peaceful paradise island while she will get to vanish from EJ. Lexie admits she’s tempted as she told Abe she was going to visit her mother, but she was really just going to find some place to die alone and then tell Abe and Theo after she’s gone. Kristen assures her that Stefano’s staff will treat her like royalty. Lexie asks about Kristen and if she plans to be on the run from EJ, her life, and Rachel forever. Kristen insists it won’t be forever as she just needs time to figure out a way to outmaneuver EJ and then she’ll be back. Lexie questions how it got to this and what she did to EJ to make him go this far.

Philip questions Xander saying he can’t speak for him. Xander says he doesn’t know what he’s been up to. Gabi argues that Philip is obviously very angry with her so that would be his motive. Philip guesses Gabi thinks he’s so obsessed with her that all he thinks about is how to get back at her. Philip tells Gabi that he doesn’t think about her at all anymore and declares he’s sick of the topic of Gabi Hernandez. Gabi asks if his little self help book did the trick then. Philip insists he wasn’t reading that because of her but he is totally over her. Philip says that Gabi is accusing him of something so ridiculous so she’s not over him and is projecting. Gabi complains that she doesn’t give a damn which one of them did this and that all she knows is neither of them will see a penny of her late husband’s inheritance. Philip tells Gabi to keep her inheritance because he never wanted her money anyway.

Julie tells Foster that no one sets up Marlena and it was just a suggestion if he had no one to take to the concert, but she’s sure he does. Foster tells Julie that if she’s no longer interested in going out with him, she can just say so. Julie calls Foster a charming man and completely different from her husband, but it’s all so new to her so she doesn’t know how to behave or what to expect. Foster relates to being alone after a long and happy marriage, but he enjoys her company and they have to live life to the fullest. Foster suggests they find a new way of being happy together.

Eli opens his eyes to see Lani wearing only her bakery apron. Eli offers to take it off himself as they kiss and move in to the bed.

Kristen tells Lexie that she did something out of anger that she regrets. Lexie is sure she had her reasons to be angry with EJ. Lexie admits she’s not EJ’s biggest fan either, but he is her brother and she still loves him. Kristen doesn’t expect her to stop loving their brother as long as she’s on her team this go round. Lexie says definitely, but asks if she really thinks her plan will work. Kristen says she wouldn’t have suggested it if she didn’t. Kristen warns that the clock is ticking for both of them, so they have to commit quickly. Kristen asks if Lexie is in.

Xander tells Gabi not to be hasty as there’s clearly a misunderstanding they need to get to the bottom of. Gabi argues that there is no misunderstanding and that only someone who had access to her designs could pull this off. Xander remarks that it’s just a handbag while Gabi complains that her designs are one of a kind, iconic, and timeless. Xander encourages that whoever did this must be a huge fan of her work. Gabi responds that she’s not flattered but horrified as she put her heart and soul in to those designs. Gabi calls that kind of betrayal unforgivable. Philip then chimes in that now she knows how he feels.

Julie asks if Foster thinks they should have happy moments together. Foster suggests maybe it’s too soon. Julie agrees and says she just needs time. Foster tells Julie that if she wants to go on another date, she can give him a call. Julie says she will and walks away. Julie then gives Foster that call.

Lani tells Eli that she would love to lay with him all day, but she does have to get back to the bakery to drop off an order at the Bistro. Eli tells Lani that marrying her was the best decision he’s made in his life.

Lexie tells Kristen that she doesn’t have much to lose, so she’s in. Kristen tearfully thanks her for giving her a second chance as they hug. Kristen wishes they had more time together. Lexie declares that DiMeras never die while Kristen jokes that they just change their hiding places. Lexie asks what’s next. Kristen says she needs to figure out the where and when of EJ’s plan. Kristen asks if there’s anything she can do to help Lexie. Lexie says she will let her know. Kristen advises Lexie to be ready at a moment’s notice.

Gabi asks if Philip is admitting to stealing her designs. Philip says all he said was that he knows how betrayal feels. Gabi guesses this is how he got back at her, but Philip says he has better things to do and doesn’t give a damn about her anymore. Xander understands Gabi has hurt feelings but she can’t throw around baseless accusations and suggests maybe one of her employees made the counterfeits. Gabi says definitely not as she’s had the same employees and manufacturers for years. Xander remarks that there’s a first time for everything. Gabi points out it’s the first time shipping with Titan, so it would be easy for them to crack things open and help themselves to her designs which is what she is convinced happened. Gabi declares that she’s invoking the morality clause and as far as she’s concerned, her debt to Titan has been paid. Xander reminds Gabi that she very recently committed corporate espionage against their company which Gabi calls baseless accusations and denies admitting to it. Philip points out that Theo remembers and Anna heard it from Tony. Gabi calls that hearsay and warns them to lawyer up. Xander questions her wanting to go to court while Gabi argues that they had the means, motive, and opportunity that no one else on the planet had. Gabi warns that they don’t have the resources to fight her so they will lose Titan, the mansion, and everything else they hold dear.

Eli and Lani walk through the town square where they run in to Kristen. Lani and Kristen hug as Kristen asks where they are off to. Lani says she’s helping Chanel at the Bakery and that she and Eli were just celebrating their anniversary. Kristen wishes them a happy anniversary. Eli says he’ll let them catch up as he steps away on a work call. Kristen wishes she would’ve spent more time with Lani the past few years and kept in better touch. Lani says it’s okay as she’s here now and they will have so much time to catch up. Lani asks if Kristen is good. Kristen claims that she is, but says she realized she doesn’t tell her enough how much her friendship means to her and says she’s truly grateful to have her in her life, so she always wants her to remember that as they hug.

Lexie goes to the book store and sits down with a book titled “When I’m Gone”. Julie approaches and says when Doug passed away, that book gave her a lot to think about. Lexie responds that she was just looking at romance novels but this one caught her eye. Julie recommends the book and mentions that the writer says in the book that in Heaven, she’ll be reunited with her husband. Julie says she is a woman of faith, but on that issue she has so many questions. Julie brings up Lexie returning from the other side and asks if she saw something that she would call Heaven and if she will find Doug there.

Xander asks Gabi what about Arianna, reminding her that she’s a Kiriakis. Gabi argues that she runs a highly lucrative fashion brand and just came in to a windfall, so she’s more than capable of taking care of her daughter. Xander points out how much this would hurt Sonny and asks if she thinks Arianna would just turn a blind eye to that. Xander guesses Gabi didn’t think about Sonny at all because she only ever thinks about herself and remarks that it’s no wonder her daughter isn’t talking to her. Gabi argues that she has a good relationship with her daughter’s father. Philip says not after he hears this. Gabi says he can badmouth her to Sonny all he wants and calls Philip a bitter lovesick fool as she storms out of the office. Xander questions what Philip was thinking. Philip tells him it wasn’t him. Xander responds that it wasn’t him either.

Kristen tells Lani that she will let her get back to her husband and tells her to take care of herself as she hurries off. Eli comes back to Lani and asks what’s wrong. Lani says she just had the strangest conversation with Kristen where she was being really sweet to her. Eli notes they are good friends. Lani says this was different and not like her. Lani has a gut feeling that Kristen was trying to say goodbye.

Lexie wishes she could tell Julie that she saw Heaven with her own eyes, but she never fully left this life that she can remember. Julie guesses she will just have to lean on her faith again. Lexie has no doubt that Julie and Doug will be reunited someday as they hug.

Philip tells Xander that he better not be messing with his head. Xander says they are in this together and if the ship sinks, they both go down. Philip asks if Xander would tell him if he tapped in to Titan’s shadier connections. Xander swears he did not steal Gabi’s designs and had nothing to do with this.

Gabi goes to the town square and complains that she was a fool to trust them. Gabi pulls out her phone and calls Gwen but it goes to voicemail. Gabi leaves a message that she has exciting news as she figured out who stole her designs and those bastards are going to regret ever messing with Gabi Chic.

Philip and Xander agree to believe each other. Philip points out that Gabi and the money are gone. Xander says they are not giving up when there’s an easy solution to all of this. Philip says he can’t wait to hear it. Xander says they’ve established being honest with each other, so it’s Philip’s job to convince Gabi of the same. Xander says it’s obvious that Philip and Gabi still have feelings for each other, so he instructs Philip to use that. Philip refuses to demean himself to using their past relationship. Xander argues they are in the middle of a crisis but Philip says he’s not lowering himself to that, so he can forget it. Xander tells Philip to find another way to save the company then, bringing up that this is all because of Philip’s fraud letter. Philip thought they were over that. Xander says they were until his girlfriend came to put the nail in their coffin. Xander warns Philip that unless he wants to drag Maggie back to town to start packing, he better find a way to fix it.

Belle runs in to Cat in the town square and asks if she has a minute. Belle says she knows they aren’t close but it’s about EJ and brings up that Marlena and Chad care about her. Cat guesses Chad is worried about her getting close to his brother which Belle confirms. Cat appreciates the concern but says they don’t need to be worried about her as she’s good. Cat tells Belle to have a wonderful day and walks away.

Chad and Leo sit together at the Brady Pub. Chad is glad Leo is recovered from his concussion. Leo talks to Chad about wanting to do a story on a scandal with fake purses at Gabi Chic. Leo says they can talk about how this is affecting Gabi and her business. Leo says Gabi wants to fight back and talks about everything the story includes. Chad says it sounds intriguing and dangerous, telling Leo to go for it. Chad says God help anyone who tries to rip off Gabi Hernandez.

Rafe goes home where Gabi is on her laptop and asks if she’s okay as she looks like she’s seen a ghost. Gabi informs him that she just got her rather sizable inheritance from Stefan and declares that she’s never seen this much money in her life.

Brady greets Sarah at the hospital and says that Tate texted him that Holly is getting released today which is great news, but Sarah says she’s not so sure. Sarah says that Holly’s wanted to get out and been so upset with her that she decided not to fight it. Sarah adds that she can keep an eye on her at home. Brady is sure things will be less tense there. Sarah goes to check on a patient. EJ comes around the corner as Tate approaches Brady. Tate then reveals that he found pills tucked away in Holly’s bag. EJ looks on and thinks back to planting the pills which Rita delivered to him, in Holly’s bag. Marlena approaches EJ and tells him that she heard the news. EJ guesses she means that it’s International Chess Day which is good because Stefano left her a chess set and he just received his inheritance. Marlena says that must be a great relief to him since he had to sell the hospital at a loss. Sarah returns to Brady and Tate, so Tate reveals the pills to her. Brady says she’s sorry and Sarah says she is too.

Gabi knew she would be inheriting a lot of money but seeing it in her account is different. Gabi thanks Rafe for helping her prove that she deserved it. Rafe says that Stefan would want her to have it. Gabi wishes he was there to enjoy it with her.

Belle joins Chad at the Brady Pub and informs him that she found another clue in the concert program insert. Leo comes back and asks what kind of mystery they are solving. Chad informs him that it’s about the chess set that Stefano left Marlena and John. Leo says he’d love to hear more but he has an appointment with Marlena. Belle informs him that Marlena doesn’t know they are still investigating this, so she asks him not to say anything. Leo assures that his lips are sealed as he exits. Chad then asks Belle what she found out.

EJ tells Marlena not to celebrate just yet as he still owns the hospital and is appealing the board’s decision, so they’ll see if Gwen’s purchase actually goes through. EJ argues that Gwen doesn’t have the attention span and it wouldn’t surprise him if some skeletons in her closet make her a highly unsuitable choice. Cat arrives, so EJ says they are done here and goes to join Cat.

Holly returns to her room and says she’s ready, but wonders where Tate went.

Tate tells Sarah that Holly was in the bathroom changing, so he didn’t say anything to her. Sarah says the pills look like Coriseal but she’ll have them tested to be sure while Tate has to talk to Holly.

Leo meets Marlena in her office and says he’s still drowning in a sea of bad decisions. Marlena assumes Javi is the center of all his pain which Leo confirms.

Rafe asks what Gabi is going to spend all this money on. Gabi responds that she’s going to pay back a debt, invest a portion of it, and create a trust fund for Arianna. Gabi doesn’t think that will make Ari hate her any less, but it will be able to provide a life for her that they never had. They toast to Gabi and Stefan.

Tate tells Sarah and Brady that he told Holly that he believed her and now she’s going to hate him. Brady says in short term, she will be angry with all of them but in time, she will realize they all wanted to help her. Sarah can’t believe this is how drugs got in to Holly’s system as she was hoping for any other way.

Cat and EJ go to his office where Cat confirms she heard the news that the hospital board is on the verge of ousting him. EJ responds that they haven’t gotten rid of him yet.

Belle shows Chad that she used a magnifying glass on the concert program and shows how the two dots in between Verdi translate to Long Live King Victor Emmanuel III of Italy which was an important phrase during the unification of Italy and also an acronym for Viva Verdi. Belle tells Chad to lock in because they are just getting started.

Gabi tells Rafe that now that she got her inheritance money, it’s time to focus on the money she lost from the counterfeit Gabi Chic bags. Rafe tells her that the intellectual property unit is on it. Gabi says she hasn’t heard from them yet, so she’s going to do this herself with a little help from Leo and Gwen because they are familiar with the other side of the counterfeit business. Gabi realizes she probably shouldn’t have said that to a federal agent as Rafe questions if she’s telling him that Leo and Gwen were once engaged in illegal activity and says he’s not shocked.

Leo tells Marlena about using his concussion to get attention from Javi, thinking he would spend more time with him but faking being dizzy backfired because Javi busted him. Leo knows Javi is with someone else now and isn’t interested in him anymore. Leo adds that Javi even urged him to take off his wedding ring which Marlena notes that she noticed when he came in and asks how that makes him feel. Leo responds that it’s like his heart is in freefall without a parachute.

Belle and Chad continue going over the clues as Belle says that Stefano must have wanted John and Marlena to work hard to figure it out, so that’s what they are going to do. Chad points out that they don’t even know what they are looking for. Belle brings up the person leaving them clues and then declares that she thinks she knows who it is.

Brady offers to go search Holly’s room at the Kiriakis Mansion. Sarah says that’d be great while she will go talk to Holly. Brady hugs Tate and tells him to hang in there as he then exits the hospital. Tate wants to go with Sarah to talk to Holly so she doesn’t have to do it alone. Sarah agrees they can do it together.

EJ tells Cat that the sale of the hospital to Gwen is far from a done deal. EJ adds that Cat doesn’t need to worry since he knows she and Mark have a lot of financial responsibilities, so if things go south, he will find Mark a research position at DiMera Pharmaceuticals and hire Cat as his personal assistant. Cat is surprised that he would keep them both on even if he loses the hospital. EJ responds that they have both proven to be valuable and loyal employees. EJ adds that Cat has become indispensable to him, so he couldn’t possibly let her go.

Chad tells Belle that if she thinks EJ is behind all of this, she should think again since he has his hands full. Belle says not EJ, but asks about Dr. Rolf since he was with Stefano when he died. Chad agrees that he’d have to know about the chess set while Belle says there’s no one better to carry out Stefano’s will. Belle says she knows Dr. Rolf is in hiding now but maybe they can lure him out. Chad says no, feeling Dr. Rolf is dangerous and he doesn’t trust him. Belle argues that they said they would move forward with this. Chad says that was until it started to get uncomfortable. Chad worries about what if this isn’t a game, but Stefano’s ultimate trap. Chad reminds her that he said he could not live with himself if something happened to Belle.

EJ asks if Cat will stay on as his assistant regardless of the fallout. Cat responds that she would be honored to. EJ adds that he will inform the medical board that he intends to put up a fight to remain owner of the hospital. Cat guesses he has something up his sleeve. EJ confirms he always does. Cat notes his confidence and asks if he has a plan, adding that he also seems a bit rattled.

Gabi talks to Rafe about how angry Gwen was to learn that she spent a fortune on a fake Gabi Chic bag, so she offered her services to get to the bottom of it while Leo was hot to investigate. Rafe argues that Leo wants Javi back, so he could see him using this as an opportunity to hang out here and get involved in their cousin’s relationship. Gabi assures that she warned Leo and believes that he’s accepted Javi and Gus are happy together. Gabi declares that Leo just needs to get over Javi and move on. Rafe doesn’t see Leo moving on from anything, much less the best thing that ever happened to him.

Marlena asks Leo why he thinks he kept his wedding ring on for so long. Leo thinks it was a security blanket that gave him hope, but now that hope is gone unless Gus goes back to Texas. Marlena asks if he’s still holding out hope that Gus will go away. Leo assures that he is, but he’s not going to make his dreams come true. Leo acknowledges that Javi loves Gus. Marlena tells Leo that she’s so proud of him and calls it a sign of growth and maturity. Leo says that’s ironically proof that he’s finally becoming the man that Javi deserves, but he has to be mature and let him go both physically and in his heart.

Tate returns to Holly with Sarah. Holly asks where he was. Tate says he went to talk to Brady and Sarah. Holly asks if she can go home now, but Sarah says she can’t so Holly asks why not. Sarah then reveals the pills. Holly asks what they are. Tate thinks she knows and reveals that he looked for hair ties but found the pills in her bag and Sarah said they look like Coriseal. Holly doesn’t care and swears that she’s never seen those pills in her life. Sarah says they love her and want to get her help, but she needs to admit there’s a problem.

Gabi tells Rafe that Leo’s love life is not her business, but this counterfeit business is. Rafe agrees that she has to fight this. Gabi says she’s trying, but notes that Leo said 20 more websites popped up. Gabi questions how this keeps happening so quickly. Rafe says he understands the knockoff market is big business, so these people work fast and it funds a lot of other activities including organized crime and even terrorism. Rafe calls it easy cash flow that’s hard to stop. Gabi says they’ll see about that because this time they messed with the wrong designer.

Belle tells Chad that she appreciates his concern and understands if he wants to back out, but she can’t because she needs answers. Chad asks why they can’t hand it over to Paul. Belle says he’s out of the country on a case and she doesn’t want to wait until he’s available. Belle thinks it’s time she flies off and do some real detective work of her own. Chad questions her going to Italy. Belle says all the clues seem to be pointing in that direction. Chad asks if she’s joking while Belle asks if that’s crazy.

Marlena asks if Leo has thought about how he’s going to move forward. Leo guesses he’ll start by hitting dating apps and gay bars and throwing himself more in to work. Leo brings up having a great lead on counterfeit purses, explaining that people are selling knockoff Gabi Chic purses, so he and Gwen have offered their services to find out who is behind this. Marlena tells Leo that she doesn’t think Gwen will have much time for that when she becomes owner of the hospital. Leo questions if she’s scooping him and if the sale went through. Marlena clarifies that it’s not official but she thinks she can say that EJ’s reign at the hospital is coming to an end.

EJ admits to Cat that he is rattled as there is so much happening at once that it’s a bit overwhelming. Cat responds that she knows the feeling and thinks back to Marlena telling her that EJ could have saved Holly’s life while also being responsible for people getting sick with Coriseal. Cat then asks EJ if he cares to talk about what’s got him all rattled.

Holly swears the pills are not hers and she doesn’t know how they got in there, adding that the bag has been empty for months while Bonnie packed it for her and Xander brought it. Sarah asks if she’s saying they put the pills in there. Holly says no but she isn’t using and she’s sick and tired of being accused of something she didn’t do. Sarah goes to get her something to calm her down. Holly thought Tate believed her. Tate responds that he did until he found the pills. Holly asks if her word means nothing then and if he’s siding with them over her. Holly asks how stupid she would be to tell Tate to go through her bag if she knew the pills were in there. Sarah returns with medicine but Holly says she doesn’t want to be drugged. Sarah argues that it will help her rest since she’s still recovering and getting upset like this is not good for her. Holly responds that she can’t believe her and reluctantly takes the medicine. Tate asks Holly if they can talk about this for a minute but Holly says no and she wants them both to leave now. Holly threatens to scream if they don’t get out. Sarah says they’ll give her a few minutes to calm down and then they will come back as she and Tate exit. Holly stands in frustration, holding the pill that Sarah had given her.

Rafe talks to Gabi about how the counterfeit companies work. Gabi questions how they are getting her designs since there are knockoffs all over the place. Rafe says he doesn’t know but whoever it is are one step ahead of her. Gabi says the only people who have her designs work at Gabi Chic and then there are manufacturers. Gabi then declares that she thinks she knows who is behind this.

Chad tells Belle that they are talking about Stefano so nothing is too crazy but feels they have nothing to go off of. Belle argues that somebody obviously wants them to figure this out or they wouldn’t be giving them all these clues. Belle admits she’s desperate for a vacation and her case load is light while Italy is one of her favorite places on the planet, so she thinks she needs to go to see what she can figure out. Chad decides that he’s going with her then because he’s not going to let her do this alone. Belle asks when they leave.

Leo tells Marlena that EJ cannot be happy about losing the hospital to Gwen. Marlena says he only has himself to blame. Leo says EJ won’t see it that way and worries about EJ going after Gwen like he threatened to.

EJ thanks Cat but says dealing with his headaches is not in her job description. Cat points out that she’s also his friend that cares about him. EJ says he appreciates that but he has it all under control. Cat says if he ever doesn’t and needs an ear or a shoulder, she’s there. EJ says he’s grateful for that and he may take her up on it sometime.

Brady returns to Tate and Sarah at the hospital and says he didn’t find anything in Holly’s room, so those pills must have been the only ones she had. Sarah says she sent them to the lab to be tested so they will know for sure if they are Coriseal. Brady asks how thing went here. Tate says not good as Holly denied everything, got really upset, and kicked them out. Sarah adds that she gave her a sedative to calm her down and then they will go back to try again.

Holly packs her bag and sneaks out of her hospital room.

Rita hands EJ a delivery in his office. EJ sees on his computer that his inheritance just hit his bank account, so the other heirs should see it soon as well as Rita. EJ reminds Rita not to think about retiring because he needs her here in Salem especially now. Rita agrees they have a lot of irons in the fire. EJ remarks that Stefano’s millions will help the sting of losing his entire investment on Dr. Rolf’s miracle drug. EJ declares that nothing will ease the pain of knowing he’s losing his sister. Rita suggests Lexie receiving her inheritance could ease her pain, to know that Abe and Theo will want for nothing while EJ points out they will want her.

Abe calls Theo, leaving a message asking him to please come home as they need to talk. Abe hangs up and then gets a call from his bank about the inheritance being deposited today. Abe asks if that means Stefano’s estate has been settled.

Alex comes home to find Theo sleeping on his couch.

Gwen goes to Tate’s gym where he is working out. Gwen asks if Holly is out of the hospital yet. Tate says not yet, but he’s going to see her after this. Tate asks if Gwen has visited Xander. Gwen says she hasn’t confronted him for sleeping with Kristen behind her back as she’s been waiting for the perfect opportunity. Gwen suggests Tate can show her a move to really hit him where it hurts.

Holly remains in her hospital bed and calls Xander, saying she needs a favor.

Stephanie comes out from her room, surprised to see Alex is back. Alex points out Theo and questions what’s going on here. Theo wakes up and says he’s obviously overstayed his welcome.

EJ holds the envelope that Rita delivered and says he hopes it doesn’t come to this, but if this is what it takes to stop Sarah from looking in to how Coriseal got in to Holly’s system, he won’t hesitate to use it. Rita asks if he knows how long Lexie has left. EJ says not long and it could be weeks or days. Rita tells EJ that she’s so sorry. EJ says he is too. Rita asks if he’s told Gwen that Dr. Rolf’s drug was unsuccessful. EJ admits he hasn’t, but since Gwen turned on him by trying to buy the hospital out from him, telling Gwen that her investment is lost is the only bright spot in this situation.

Tate works with Gwen on self defense and asks her to promise to only use these techniques if she feels threatened and that she won’t strike first. Gwen agrees to take his advice, but says there are more than a few people she might have to defend herself against like EJ and Kristen. Tate asks if all of her enemies are named DiMera. Gwen says for the most part, but jokes that’s the case for everyone in Salem.

Sarah confronts EJ at the hospital and says whatever he’s up to is probably cruel, amoral, and illegal so she wants him to stay away from Holly. EJ reminds her that he is her boss and calls it blatant disrespect how she ordered him out of Holly’s room. Sarah wants him to stay out of Holly’s room, arguing that her niece doesn’t need his help. EJ argues that Holly doesn’t need Sarah’s help and she made that clear. EJ adds that Holly is an adult and Sarah has no right to interfere in her decisions. EJ says he has many rights when it comes to decisions about Sarah. EJ then declares that he has the right to fire Sarah and he’s exercising that now.

Theo asks Stephanie to pass him his clothes. Stephanie responds that he doesn’t have to leave. Alex questions why Theo spent the night. Stephanie responds that she had a few too many to drink at Small Bar and Theo was a gentleman who walked her home safely. Alex questions further. Theo says he had an argument with his dad and now he’s out of here, but Stephanie stops him from leaving.

Arianna brings Holly a teddy bear in the hospital. Ari thought she’d be in a better mood since she’s no longer dying of arsenic poisoning. Holly complains that she can’t stand being in the hospital any longer. Arianna asks what’s really bothering her. Holly informs her that her mom left today which is fine, but she really wanted her to stay. Holly adds that Tate also hasn’t come by to see her today. Ari assures that he will and is probably just working this morning. Holly mentions Aaron stopping by earlier to see her and bets that Ari is sorry she missed him.

Gwen tells Tate that he’s all for making love and not war, but not when it comes to the DiMeras. Tate advises her to stay away from the DiMeras and then sends her to work the heavy bag.

EJ tells Sarah that he’s firing her effective immediately and to go pack her things. Xander arrives and interrupts, arguing that EJ can’t fire Sarah because she’s under contract. EJ responds that he’ll pay out her contract and do whatever he pleases. Kayla comes over and says he can’t do that while EJ tells her to stay out of it. Kayla then reveals that she just spoke to the board, who decided that EJ’s secret experiments conducted at the hospital were unethical and have revoked his ownership status. EJ calls that absurd. Kayla informs him that he has 90 days to divest himself from the hospital or the board will take it upon themselves to accept the ownership bid from Gwen, leaving EJ upset while Xander and Sarah look pleased.

Stephanie tells Theo that he can’t leave until she properly thanks him for last night as she praises what a great listener he was. Stephanie remarks that it was so nice to be able to share so much with a friend. Theo thanks her and says she was a good friend too. Theo says he really should get going and wishes her luck with everything as he hurries out.

Holly accuses Arianna of having the hots for Aaron. Ari denies it, calling him an annoying nerd but then admits that she had a blast with him at the cabin and that the way he stepped up to help Holly was hot. Ari tells Holly to forget she said that but Holly says no way and suggests she ask him out. Ari says that Aaron is nerdy and not her type. Holly questions how it’s worked out thus far with her type. Holly points out that Aaron really likes her, so maybe finding a new type could be good for her. Ari agrees to think about it.

Kayla argues that EJ has brought nothing but misery to the staff ever since buying the hospital. EJ argues that ever since he bought the hospital, he’s been met with ingratitude. Kayla complains that EJ didn’t buy the hospital to help people, only himself. Kayla declares that the day is coming where no one will have to deal with EJ again. Off to the side, Sarah comments to Xander that seeing EJ get the boot is the best news she’s had in a long time. Xander says now if someone would just boot the bastard off the planet. EJ warns Kayla that this isn’t over as he’s going to appeal the board’s decision. Kayla tells him that he can appeal all he wants, but once the board goes through, he’s out and Gwen is in.

Gwen finishes her workout as Tate congratulates her on going really hard today. Gwen says the place really gets her heart pumping. Gwen then gets a call from Kayla, who says she wanted to let her know that the state has decided to remove EJ as owner of the hospital, so it looks like Gwen would be allowed to purchase it if she’s still interested. Gwen assures that she’s very interested, so Kayla agrees to set up a meeting with the board and get back with her later today. Gwen thanks her and says they will talk soon as she hangs up. Tate asks if it was good news. Gwen excitedly declares that he is looking at the proud owner of the Salem University Hospital.

Sarah questions Xander having Holly’s bag. Xander explains that she called earlier and asked him to bring it as Bonnie packed some of her things since she’s being discharged. Xander then asks why he feels like he did something wrong. Sarah complains that Holly called him behind her back because she’s not ready to be discharged and she knows it. Xander apologizes as he didn’t realize he was going against her orders. Sarah says it’s not him, it’s Holly as she is just furious with her for thinking she’s using drugs again. Sarah argues that she would love another option for how Coriseal got in her system. Sarah talks about taking another sample from the well but Julie had the well decontaminated. They conclude that either EJ altered the first sample and they’ll never know or Holly took the drugs willingly. EJ hides around the corner and listens as Xander tells Sarah that he’s still inclined to believe Holly because this has EJ’s stink all over it. Xander invites Sarah to join him for a bite to eat. Xander then shows Holly a video he took of Victoria singing earlier. EJ watches on as they walk away together. EJ then notices that they left behind Holly’s bag at the front desk.

Tate tells Gwen that their next session is on the books and congratulates her on buying the hospital. Gwen calls their sessions the highlight of her day. Tate tells her to make love, not war as she exits.

Stephanie remarks that she wasn’t expecting Alex home so soon as she’s surprised he was able to leave Joy’s side. Alex explains that the nurse came and is staying with her to help Joy recover from her whiplash until she’s well enough to take care of Kelsey on her own. Stephanie comments that she’s sure Alex will be running over there all the time to help. Alex responds that for his daughter, he will. Alex wishes he could bring Kelsey here. Stephanie asks if that’s his passive-aggressive way of saying he could if she wasn’t such a reckless idiot. Alex says that’s not what he meant at all. Alex understands this has become way more complicated than they expected and maybe Joy isn’t making it better. Stephanie complains that Joy had him move her to a hotel and sleep in her room last night. Alex argues that Kelsey was screaming her head off all night, so no one was sleeping, except Theo here in his underwear. Stephanie tells him that nothing happened while Alex tells her that nothing happened with Joy either, nor would it ever. Alex tells Stephanie that she has to trust him, otherwise they will never find their way through this. Stephanie argues that she does trust him, but Joy’s the one she doesn’t trust.

Theo goes home, where Abe says it’s so good to see him but he didn’t return any of his calls. Abe admits he owes him a huge apology for conspiring with EJ to get him away from DiMera. Theo says it’s not that he just went behind his back, but that he lied to him. Abe says he’s so sorry about that and that he wanted to honor what he thought was Lexie’s wishes, but it was wrong of him to go behind his back to collude with EJ. Abe insists that he wanted to protect him. Abe calls Theo an honest and ethical person while the DiMeras and that company are not.

Arianna asks if she can get Holly anything. Holly thanks her but says she just wants to go home, sleep in her own bed, and eat something different. Arianna feels the opposite as she wants to be anywhere but home. Holly asks if she’s still mad at her mom. Ari responds that when she has kids, she’ll want to be the opposite of Gabi and not try to control them or make decisions for them. Holly says she totally gets it as it sucks when someone you love has no faith in you, like Sarah. Ari points out that Sarah had always been cool. Holly says in this situation, it’s like Sarah immediately thought the worst of her and refuses to believe anything she says. They can’t wait to be back in school and living in the dorms.

Xander tells Sarah that EJ thinks he’s untouchable, but now he’s desperate like when he tried to fire her just now which was because she came too close to the truth.

Alex tells Stephanie that it doesn’t matter what Joy does. Stephanie questions how he can say that when she’s obviously trying to drive a wedge between them. Alex says she would only be able to if she lets her. Stephanie argues that she’s not the one running to her rescue every five seconds. Alex says that she’s the one letting it upset her, then getting mad at him and shutting him out which is her driving a wedge between them. Stephanie realizes he’s right and apologizes, saying she just feels so hurt when he leaves her side to go be with Joy. Alex wishes he didn’t have to. Stephanie says she gets that he does have to since it’s about being there for his daughter, which is why she never should’ve deleted Joy’s message about her accident. Alex brings up there was a time when he silenced her phone in frustration and she ended up missing a very important message from her mom which he regrets to this day. Alex says they will figure it out and just have to remember that they are on the same team. Stephanie tells Alex that she missed him last night. Alex tells her how bad he wanted to come back because he loves her and all he does is think about her as they kiss.

Theo tells Abe that he always thought he was as honest and ethical as they come, but now he lied to him about two hugely important things so he doesn’t know how he can trust him again. Abe admits his feelings are valid, but he wants him to know that he will work hard for the rest of his life to earn Theo’s trust. Abe asks Theo to give him a chance for Lexie’s sake since they just got her back and she doesn’t need tension between them. Theo agrees to get over it. Abe thanks Theo and hugs him, saying he’s very grateful. Theo then asks where Lexie is. Abe says she went out but he doesn’t know where. Abe adds that he has big news for Lexie when she gets home as he announces that she got her inheritance from Stefano and it hit their bank account today. Theo didn’t know the transfers were completed. Abe tells Theo that the money will be his one day, but Theo responds that he doesn’t want it as he doesn’t want anything from Stefano after finding out he was responsible for Lexie getting sick. Abe argues that it’s not Stefano’s money anymore, it’s Lexie’s, and she would want him to have it.

Sarah tells Xander and Kayla that she’s counting the minutes until EJ is gone from the hospital. Kayla notes that EJ will fight it, but he will not win and she assures that Sarah still has her job. Tate arrives and asks how Holly is doing. Sarah responds that she’s bored and restless. Tate asks if he can go see her. Sarah says sure and tells him to take her bag along with the good news that she’s being released soon. Tate says that’s great news and walks away. Xander thought Sarah said Holly wasn’t ready to be discharged. Sarah says she reconsidered and feels confident that Holly can go home where they can keep an eye on her and see if she’s sneaking pills.

Holly and Arianna talk about next semester of school until Tate comes in. Ari decides she will give them some privacy and exits. Tate informs Holly that Sarah is discharging her. Holly is thrilled as she thought she was going to keep her another night. Tate says they are going to get her out of here as they hug.

Gwen goes to EJ’s office and remarks that he looks like he lost his only friend or maybe his favorite hospital. EJ tells her to leave his office. Gwen responds that it won’t be his much longer. EJ tells her not to celebrate just yet as the acquisition is hardly a done deal. EJ adds that he has more bad news for her about Dr. Rolf’s miracle drug but Gwen stops him and says he’s not going to rain on her parade. Gwen tells EJ to enjoy his last hurrah while it lasts as she exits the office.

Abe asks Theo if Lexie has talked to him about going to visit his Grandma Celeste. Theo says they talked about it and guesses now they can afford first class or a private jet. Abe says the thing is, Lexie wants to go alone. Theo is surprised as he thought she talked about them all going together. Abe guesses she changed her mind as she said she wanted one on one time. Abe worries about Lexie going all that way by herself but says he must respect her wishes, which Theo says is important as he then exits.

Stephanie promises to never hang up on Alex again while Alex promises to keep her in the loop on what he’s doing and why. She promises to be more understanding when he needs to take care of Kelsey and to not interfere when Joy tries to get in touch with him again. They kiss until Alex says he’d love to do this forever but he’s wiped out and has to go to bed, so Stephanie decides to go with him.

EJ comes out of his office and runs in to Sarah and Xander. Xander says he can tell EJ is starting to sweat, but EJ says he has nothing to sweat about. Xander says not even a contaminated batch of Coriseal, a cover up, and anonymously leaving a clue on Sarah’s desk. EJ says Xander is out of his mind. Sarah states that if EJ left the book on her desk, then he saved Holly’s life and he knows he cares about her, but he also might have made her sick in the first place along with other people. EJ questions her thinking he’d do anything to harm Holly, arguing that he was her stepfather when she overdosed the first time and he’s also the one helping her with the ridiculous lawsuit from Amy Choi. Sarah asks if EJ is deflecting. EJ asks what Sarah has done to help Holly and says if anyone should be concerned about their actions, it should be her.

Holly goes to change clothes and asks Tate to get a hair tie from her bag. Tate reaches in to Holly’s bag and finds four pills.

Gwen walks to the park, talking on the phone about planning a wire transfer to purchase University hospital when the paper work is complete. Gwen is then grabbed from behind by a masked man.

Cat and her sister Felicity have breakfast in the town square as EJ approaches and greets them. Cat introduces EJ as her boss, while Felicity questions if EJ is just her boss or if they are dating.

Lexie calls Kristen and leaves a message, saying she needs to see her ASAP, somewhere private away from the DiMera Mansion. Lexie says to call her back as soon as she gets this as it’s a matter of life and death. Abe then comes in and asks if she heard from Theo since he didn’t come home last night. Lexie informs Abe that Theo texted her that he was staying at Alex and Stephanie’s last night. Abe questions why. Lexie assumed it was because of the secret Abe shared with him and that he just needs space and time right now and that she does too.

Marlena and Brady have breakfast at the Brady Pub, talking about the excitement of Rachel coming home from Bayview. Brady says the strange thing is that Kristen wasn’t too happy about it and says it has something to do with EJ, but she wouldn’t give him any details. Marlena says that Kristen expressed concern to her about EJ too and said something about going too far this time, but she didn’t know if there was really going to be a problem. Brady says that Kristen is obviously hiding something. Brady adds that Kristen told him not to worry as it’s just between her and EJ, so as long as Rachel is not collateral damage, he feels Kristen can just deal with her sibling rivalry herself. Marlena agrees that Brady should stay out of it and let EJ and Kristen hash it out like grown adults.

Kristen finishes a run in the park and hears her voicemail from Lexie.

Holly remains in her hospital bed and thinks back to talking to Sarah about Amy Choi wanting her charged and then to arguing with Sarah about not taking Coriseal, as Sarah then enters the room.

Marlena tells Brady that she knows how difficult it is for him to deal with Kristen’s irrational behavior. Marlena thinks Rachel and Tate are very lucky to have Brady as a dad. Brady thanks her. Marlena asks how Tate is. Brady responds that he’s better now that Holly is recovering. Marlena asks if he has any idea how the arsenic poisoning happened. Brady responds that there’s nothing concrete as he and Steve are still looking in to it, but they think that DiMera Pharmaceuticals may be involved which shocks Marlena. Brady says they have nothing definitive but the circumstantial evidence is pretty damning. Marlena says it would explain how the arsenic got in to Holly’s system. Brady responds that the only other option is that Holly took the drug on her own which they are all hoping is not the case.

Holly complains to Sarah that she’s losing her mind and she’s sick of lying here, staring at the walls. Holly adds that the flowers and all of the visitors have stopped, adding that even her mom went back to Paris and she doesn’t know when she’s going to see her next. Sarah reminds Holly that she told Nicole she should go home. Holly says that’s because she could tell her son Jude needed her more than she did, but admits part of her was hoping Nicole would say no and stay because now that she and Maggie are gone, the only person she has left thinks she’s a lying drug addict.

EJ questions why Felicity would ask if he and Cat are dating. Felicity responds that it’s just the vibe she gets. Cat reminds Felicity she has to get to work, but Felicity says she has time.

Abe questions if Lexie needs space from him, asking what’s wrong and if he did something wrong. Lexie responds that he’s been wonderful to her and she loves him with all of her heart, but from the second she wakes up, she feels like she’s under a microscope like he and everyone are on high alert, waiting for her to just shatter. Lexie knows everyone means well, but says she just needs to get away for awhile. Abe asks to where. Lexie responds that she needs to visit her mother, who has been anxious to see her and is in no shape to travel. Abe agrees that’s a wonderful idea and suggests they look at flights tonight, adding that it could be their first trip together since she’s been back but Lexie clarifies that she needs to go away alone.

EJ congratulates Felicity on recently getting her driver’s license. Cat brings up that EJ used to be a racecar driver. EJ doesn’t remember telling her that. Cat says that it was in his bio. Cat adds that she’s sure Felicity would love to drive a racecar, so EJ tells her that could be arranged.

Abe questions Lexie not wanting him to go with her. Lexie explains that she hasn’t spent time with her mom since being back so she thinks it would be best to be one on one. Lexie tells Abe that she’s sorry and hopes he understands. Abe responds that he’s trying, but he doesn’t want to lose any moments with her after losing so many already. Lexie says she feels the same and their time together has been more precious than he knows, but she needs to do this. Lexie tells Abe that she has to go and she loves him so much as she exits.

Marlena tells Brady that John would be so proud of him following in his footsteps and working at Black Patch, which is clearly energizing him. Brady calls it great and thinks he may have inherited some of John’s instinct for it and his instinct is telling him that EJ tampered with the water sample. Marlena says they wouldn’t put that beyond him. Brady then reveals that he went back to the well this morning to get another sample and he will have Steve take it through the ISA labs, so EJ can’t tamper with it this time.

Sarah understands that Holly is upset but says she has to know that she loves and supports her. Holly argues that she doesn’t believe that she’s not using drugs and she had nothing to do with whatever got in her system. Sarah responds that she wants to believe her. Holly complains that she won’t believe her without proof which means she has no faith in her at all. Sarah states that Coriseal somehow ended up in her system and they know the arsenic came from the well water, so she’s doing everything she can to find out where the Coriseal came from so she can take care of her. Holly insists that she didn’t take anything. Holly knows Sarah worked really hard to figure out what was wrong and she’s grateful that she saved her life, but if she doesn’t believe her then she doesn’t want to be around her. Holly asks Sarah to just go. Sarah suggests getting Dr. Fuller but Holly doesn’t want to talk to a shrink, she wants to talk to someone who doesn’t think she’s a liar and that’s not Sarah, so she asks her to leave her alone. Sarah tells Holly that she is on her side and just wants her to get well and be happy. Sarah encourages Holly and says she will always be there for her as she then exits while Holly holds back tears.

Brady tells Marlena that there’s still one part of the theory that he’s struggling with and that’s who left the clue on Sarah’s desk that saved Holly. Marlena suggests a whistleblower at DiMera but Brady questions who would’ve known what was going on with Holly and why they weren’t seen on the security cameras. Brady states that it had to be someone with inside knowledge of DiMera operations and the hospital itself. Brady notes that EJ checks all the boxes but questions why he would risk tipping off Sarah if it would incriminate him. Marlena wouldn’t be so sure about that since Holly is EJ’s stepdaughter, so he’s very fond of her. Marlena adds that EJ may be ruthless and amoral, but he seems to have a heart which drew Brady’s sisters to him and is what Johnny is still trying to find in him. Brady thinks that might be Johnny’s downfall as he’s worried that EJ has dragged him in to this coverup because some things that he and Steve said don’t add up. Marlena hopes that’s not true. Marlena adds that she may be able to find someone who can help them and offers to make a phone call. Brady says he can use all the help he can get, so Marlena says she’ll get back to him.

EJ tells Felicity that they will schedule a ride in his Lamborghini whenever she’s ready which excites her. Cat says that now Felicity really does have to go to work, so she exits. Cat tells EJ that he definitely won Felicity over and that’s saying a lot because she was a very big shipper for her and Chad. Cat jokes that bribery works. EJ asks if they are in the shipping stage then and says it wasn’t bribery as his car has been in the garage for months. Cat remarks that the car costs more than a house and calls it a big sign of trust. EJ says he’s just letting Felicity ride it around the block. Cat comments that a lot of people doubt what Felicity can do and EJ says those people are fools.

Lexie meets Kristen in the park. Kristen asks what’s wrong as her voicemail sounded dire. Lexie responds that it’s not her but reveals that she was at the DiMera Mansion and overheard something. Lexie tells Kristen that it’s EJ, but then she passes out on the bench.

EJ assures Cat that Felicity’s ride will be safe and promises to never put people he cares about in danger. EJ goes to pay the bill while Cat then texts Felicity, thanking her for sticking to the script and saying everything they practiced so that EJ would know she likes him. EJ returns, so Cat says they should get to the office but EJ says he has a pit stop to make first since Holly’s still in the hospital and he’s worried about her, so he wants to check on her and see how her recovery is going, so they walk off together.

Kristen checks on Lexie until she regains consciousness. Lexie says it’s okay but Kristen argues that it’s not and they need to get her to the hospital. Lexie tells her no because she doesn’t want her family to know that she’s dying again.

Brady and Marlena go to the hospital where Marlena spots Cat and goes to ask her for a moment to talk privately about their last session, so they head to Marlena’s office. Sarah comes around and tells Brady that she just had another blow up with Holly, who kicked her out of her room again because she’s furious for not taking her word that she’s not using again. Brady knows it’s painful for them but says maybe they’ll have more to go on when the ISA lab gets the result from the new sample. Sarah says then they will know if anyone else is at risk of getting sick, how to prevent further contamination, and she won’t have to worry if Holly is lying to them all again. Sarah insists that she really wants to believe Holly as Brady hugs her.

EJ visits Holly and asks how she is feeling. Holly says physically she’s much better as the treatment is working slowly but surely, but she feels like she’s losing her mind in here. EJ tells her not to worry about the lawsuit as he has a plan to get that case dismissed and gives his word that she has nothing to worry about.

Sarah thanks Brady for supporting her and Holly. Brady assures that he’s there for her and he promised Tate that he wouldn’t give up on Holly. Brady then gets a text with the ISA lab result that frustrates him.

Marlena sits with Cat and says she discovered something that might be relevant to her investigation. Cat argues that she didn’t tell her what her investigation was about. Marlena says considering how eager she was to become EJ’s assistant, she figured it might have to do with him. Marlena adds that she doesn’t need the specifics but felt she should tell her what she knows because it might give her another option to pursue.

Holly thanks EJ and says at least someone has her back. EJ assures that he always will and asks if anything else is plaguing her. Holly responds that with Nicole back in Paris and Maggie away, the only family she has left in town is Sarah and she’s not feeling close to her right now. EJ understands she must be feeling alone. EJ knows he’s not her stepfather anymore but says he still cares deeply about her, so he’s family too. Holly thanks him and says that means a lot to her. Holly says if only she could convince everyone else she’s not taking drugs as she feels no one will believe her. Holly brings up when she was using and swears that she’s not. EJ stops her and says that he believes her which surprises her.

Brady informs Sarah that there was no trace of Coriseal or arsenic in the new sample which shocks Sarah. Sarah argues that the first sample tested positive and asks if there’s any way this lab could be wrong. Brady assures that he handed them a sealed sample. Sarah questions how arsenic can just disappear from a well. Brady says he has an idea and will do some digging. Brady adds that he’s sorry as he knows she wanted this to line up with Holly’s story. Sarah states that there has to be something she’s not telling her. Sarah then goes to check on a patient. Brady calls Julie and asks if she has a second.

Kristen tells Lexie that they can’t lose her again so there has to be something that can be done. Lexie responds that there isn’t and that Dr. Rolf is gone after doing all he could for her. Lexie asks Kristen to promise not to tell Abe and Theo because she can’t bear to put them through the hell of watching her die again. Lexie says she told Abe that she had to see her mother by herself and that’s what she will tell Theo too as she then disappears. Kristen questions her leaving without saying goodbye. Lexie says she will say goodbye in her own way. Lexie calls it her decision, her life, and her choice. Kristen blames EJ for putting Lexie through this all over again. Lexie says her feelings about what EJ did are complicated, just like her feelings about Kristen for telling Theo about Stefano’s role in her death. Kristen says she’s so sorry. Lexie says that she and Theo worked through it and maybe it’s for the best, but that’s not why she wanted to meet. Lexie tells Kristen that there is something else that EJ is planning to do that she needs to know.

Sarah returns to Holly’s room and questions what EJ is doing there as she demands he get out. EJ questions her kicking him out of a room in his own hospital. Sarah remarks that it hopefully won’t be his for long. Holly tells her that EJ came to check on her and talk about the lawsuit. Sarah argues that Holly doesn’t need help from EJ and says she will call Justin to take care of it. Holly responds that Sarah is not her mother and she’s not a child, so she can choose who represents her in court and who gets to visit her here. EJ says he’ll be back soon, but needs to get to his office. Holly thanks EJ for visiting as he then exits. Sarah tells Holly that she can’t possibly think EJ has her best interests at heart. Holly complains that Sarah just thinks she’s a drug addict while at least EJ believes her. Sarah argues that EJ is just trying to win her over. Holly remarks that Sarah just thinks anyone on her side is a liar. Holly asks what Sarah is even doing here since she told her she didn’t want to see her because she’s stressing her out when she needs to stay calm. Holly tells Sarah to leave her alone and get out now.

Marlena tells Cat about the working theory that Coriseal got in to Holly’s system because of the way EJ disposed of it. Cat questions why EJ would tip off Sarah if that’s true since he’d have a better chance of getting away with it if he let Holly die. Marlena responds that EJ is known to want to help out the people he cares about, so even if he saved Holly’s life, he could still be responsible for other people getting sick and there was a few people who died. Marlena notes that law enforcement haven’t been involved so it’s not really a problem yet for EJ and DiMera, but she thought she would want to know.

Sarah returns to Brady, who informs her that Julie had the well decontaminated after the first result came back with arsenic. Sarah complains that they will never know if the water Holly drank had Coriseal in it. Brady asks if she could get the first sample back or run Destiny’s bloodwork again but Sarah says the first sample was disposed of by now, so they have nothing else to test and no other avenues to pursue. Sarah declares that they won’t be able to make a case against EJ, if there even was one to begin with.

Kristen asks Lexie if she’s sure about this. Lexie confirms that she regained consciousness and heard EJ and Rita talking about having Kristen sent to be held captive on an island, presumably to live out the rest of her days there. Kristen says she knew he was up to something and guesses it’s better than killing her, but not much. Kristen brings up being separated from Rachel and not being able to watch her grow. Lexie knows what that feels like and questions why EJ would do something like this. Kristen calls it complicated for her to tell her right now, but she knew he was up to something and that something like this was coming. Lexie asks what she is going to do. Kristen doesn’t know yet, but promises that EJ will not get away with this.

EJ has a drink of alcohol in his office.

Stephanie goes to Small Bar and orders a martini. Stephanie then sees Theo drinking alone and remarks that he looks about like she feels.

Alex is with Joy and Kelsey at the Brady Pub. Joy is in a neck brace after the whiplash from the car accident. Alex offers to get Joy something to eat but Joy says she’s not hungry and the soreness that Kayla talked about is settling in, so she’s going to take Kelsey upstairs and lay down. Alex says he’ll still get her a sandwich and bring it up to her in case she gets hungry later. Alex offers help with the carrier but Joy assures that she can manage it. Joy ends up struggling so Alex goes to help her.

Gabi is at home with Gwen, talking about her disbelief that Gwen thought her purse was from Gabi Chic. Gwen argues that she thought she was buying it off a reputable website and shows it to Gabi.

Javi and Gus walk through the town square after seeing a movie. They stop to kiss as Leo walks through the town square and sees them.

Chad brings Belle home. Belle jokes about Chad not falling asleep during the concert. Chad admits he did like it and guesses he just needed to listen to classical music with the right person as they kiss. Belle says she’s just sorry they didn’t find the connection between Verdi and Stefano’s chess set. They look at the program that Belle was handed at the end. Belle comments that it looks like someone got bored and was doodling on it while Chad thinks the marks look intentional and wonder if someone was trying to send them a message. Chad points out a Verdi quote at the bottom has a V and a U underlined, wondering what that means. Belle then notices the word Lire is also underlined.

Gabi finishes a call with Rafe and complains to Gwen that Rafe said he would forward her case to another division because counterfeit merchandise isn’t his thing. Gwen then reveals that she just found another website with Gabi Chic knockoffs. Gabi can’t believe it and declares that she’s not letting this go, so if the FBI won’t consider it a priority, she will investigate on her own. Gwen tells Gabi that she won’t have to do it alone because after spending a fortune on a cheap knockoff, they are in this together.

After seeing Javi and Gus kissing, Leo turns to walk away but trips, causing a noise that gets Gus and Javi’s attention. Leo tells them that he wasn’t staring and says his eyes just glaze over as a side effect from his concussion along with nausea.

Theo tells Stephanie that he doesn’t want to talk right now. Stephanie responds that she doesn’t either, so she’ll leave him alone but she hopes things get better for both of them. Theo then stops her and says she doesn’t have to go as there’s plenty of room at the table for both of them, so Stephanie takes a seat and promises not to bother him as they toast their drinks.

Alex sits Joy down and has her take a breath. Joy complains that she can’t even carry her baby daughter upstairs without losing her balance. Alex says he should’ve helped her but Joy says she told him not to. Alex understands she’s still shaken up from the accident and the doctor told her to take it easy. Joy wonders if taking Kelsey out of the carrier would make it easier, but Alex worries that could get both of them hurt. Alex tels Joy that he will carry Kelsey and help her up the stairs. Joy says he can’t do that a million times a day when she has to go up and down the stairs with Kelsey, so she has to figure out how to do it on her own. Alex responds that he has a much better idea.

Belle tells Chad that Verdi and Lire can’t be a coincidence. They wonder if it’s a message from Stefano which means it’s happening in real time, not from the grave.

Gwen asks Gabi where they start. Gabi closes her laptop and says it’s way too late to do anything about it now, so she suggests they meet again in the morning. Gwen argues that she has her whole evening free and doesn’t really want to be alone or else she’ll start drinking again. Gabi asks why she would do that. Gwen then informs Gabi that she just found out Xander is shagging Kristen which Gabi is shocked to learn. Gwen adds that she really gave Kristen a piece of her mind and her fist. Gabi questions her getting in a fight. Gwen tells her the best part was EJ tried to break it up and got a piece of her elbow. Gabi wishes she was ringside for that and bets she drew a crowd. Gwen mentions that it did draw Leo, who is always nosey and ready to spill the beans.

Javi warns Leo that he better not be faking it again. Leo swears he’s not. Gus argues that Leo needs to rest and asks if he wants them to help him to his room. Leo says he’s a big boy and can tuck himself in, but he’s going to get a ginger ale first. Gus says fluids are good to help with a concussion and reminds him to stay away from alcohol. Javi tells Leo they’ll see him around as he and Gus walk off together, leaving Leo frustrated.

Theo notices Stephanie sadly checking her phone and says he can tell she’s not okay. Stephanie responds that she was expecting a text from someone, but he’s obviously too focused on someone else to remember she exists. Theo asks if she wants to talk about it. Stephanie thought he wasn’t in the talking mood. Theo clarifies that he doesn’t want to talk about his problems, but he could use the distraction in listening to her problems, so he asks what’s going on.

Alex gets Joy a room at the Salem Inn. Alex finishes a phone call and tells Joy that he’s got the agency sending over a nurse to stay with her but they can’t get there until tomorrow. Joy says it’s okay as she can make it through one night. Alex asks what if she has to pick up Kelsey in the middle of the night. Joy says she’ll figure it out. Alex then suggests another option of him staying the night there too.

Stephanie tells Theo about how she feels bad for not believing Joy’s story but she doesn’t trust her and complains that she keeps playing the damsel in distress card, always calling Alex for ridiculous things. Theo mentions that Chanel told him how obsessive Joy can be, but he doesn’t think that’s Stephanie’s biggest problem. They get interrupted as Stephanie gets a call from Alex. Stephanie answers and says she’s so glad he called as she hates how they left things earlier. Alex asks where she is since he hears music. She tells him that she’s at Small Bar and that she hears a baby, so she guesses he’s still at the hospital with Joy and Kelsey. Alex informs her that he’s at the Salem Inn, so Stephanie questions what he’s doing there. Alex calls it a long story. Stephanie guesses he could fill her in when he gets home or meet her at Small Bar. Alex doesn’t think he’ll be able to do either of those as he reveals he’s going to have to stay there. Stephanie questions Alex spending the night with Joy.

Gabi asks Gwen if Kristen was caught by surprise. Gwen confirms that Kristen thought she was just there for a friendly visit and had no idea that she knew about her and Xander. Gwen tells Gabi that she called Kristen a two-faced bloody cow and ripped some of hair out which excites Gabi. Gwen says she may have done more if EJ and Leo didn’t break it up. Javi and Gus then come in kissing. Gwen remarks that it looks like someone’s getting lucky tonight. Javi then apologizes, saying he didn’t know they had company and introduces Gus to Gwen. Gwen jokes that the good ones are always gay, taken, or both. Gabi tells Javi that they will get out of their way. Javi says they don’t have to leave but Gabi tells them to have fun while she and Gwen will go drown their sorrows elsewhere. Gabi says they’ll see them later while Gwen tells Javi that Leo does still carry a torch for him, so if he sees him, he should show some heart because one sided love is no picnic.

Chad tells Belle that somebody is watching them, knew they were going to the concert and that they had the Verdi clue. Chad worries that this crosses the line so he’s calling this off because he couldn’t live with himself if something happened to Belle while trying to solve this mystery, so he thinks they need to back off.

Stephanie questions Alex spending the night with Joy at the Salem Inn. Alex explains that he’s staying to help with Kelsey as Joy’s in a lot of pain from the accident and couldn’t even make it up the stairs to her room at the Pub. Stephanie mocks Alex being her knight in shining armor to save the day. Alex asks her not to do this. Stephanie complains about not being allowed near Kelsey. Alex insists that he’s watching Kelsey like Kayla suggested and staying there for his daughter, but Stephanie hangs up on him. Theo suggests Stephanie take it easy on the drinking. Stephanie responds that she’s just getting started and orders another, but Theo says no and that she’s ready to go home. Stephanie questions why she would go home when no one is waiting for her since her husband is spending the night with another woman who he made a baby with. Theo says that’s not something they need to tell the whole bar. Theo tells Stephanie that he’s not letting her drive home like this. Stephanie says she walked, so Theo says he will walk her home which she reluctantly accepts.

Joy smiles as she listens to Alex giving Kelsey a bath.

Gus asks Javi if he’s okay and if what Gwen said upset him. Javi says it didn’t upset him, it just made him uncomfortable. Javi admits he knew that Leo still had feelings for him and tells Gus that he told Leo earlier to take off his wedding ring and get over him. Javi adds that he noticed when they saw him in the town square, he noticed he had taken it off. Javi admits that he feels bad for Leo since he’s probably lonely, isn’t good at making friends, and is insecure. Gus responds that he feels sorry for Leo too because he lost Javi, who he calls the best thing to ever happen to him. Gus calls Leo’s loss his gain as they kiss.

Gwen and Gabi walk through the town square where they come across Leo. Leo tells Gwen that he’s not in the mood to chat. Gwen tells him it has to do with the seedy underworld of counterfeit handbags which Leo decides could make for an interesting story. Gwen explains that she bought the bag online for a bloody fortune. Leo responds that she’s never been very good at spotting fakes. Gwen says no story for him then but Leo insists he didn’t mean that in a hurtful way. Leo says that Gwen sees the best in people and asks her to sit with him for a bit because he’s very sad, lonesome, and heartbroken so he could use the company. Leo asks for maybe even a hug which Gwen reluctantly agrees to.

Belle tells Chad that there’s no way she’s giving up now when they are finally making progress. Chad argues that they don’t know who is involved and he doesn’t like the idea of someone following her around while Belle argues that she’s out in public all the time. Belle tells Chad that it’s fine if he wants to back out, but Chad refuses to let her do this alone. Chad declares that if he can’t talk her out of this, then he will be right by her side.

Alex helps Joy put Kelsey to sleep. Alex talks about having to take his shirt off because Kelsey got him wet while taking a bath. Joy tells Alex that he should take the bed since he set all of this up, but Alex refuses, saying he is taking the roll away with no argument. Alex thanks Joy for trusting him to give Kelsey a bath when he’s never given a baby a bath, so he appreciates her being willing to let him try. Joy acknowledges that Alex is really good with Kelsey. Alex says Kelsey makes it easy and swears that every minute he spends with his daughter, he falls in love more.

Theo brings Stephanie home. Stephanie thanks him for walking her home and looking out for her at the bar. Theo hopes she feels better now. Stephanie says slightly. Theo is sorry her night went from bad to worse. Stephanie feels bad for subjecting him to her tales of woe. Stephanie adds that she didn’t even get to hear what’s going on with him. Theo says it’s just family stuff as Abe is treating him like a child and doesn’t think he’s capable of making decisions on his own, so he went behind his back and made one for him. Stephanie asks what decision. Theo explains that Abe never wanted him to be CEO of DiMera, so he worked with EJ to get him out of the CEO job. Stephanie notes that doesn’t sound like Abe. Theo agrees and says Abe has been texting him all night, but he doesn’t want to talk to him or even go home. Stephanie tells him not to then and invites him to stay there with her.

Alex asks Joy if Kelsey will sleep through the night now. Joy responds that she’ll wake up every two to three hours, wanting to be rocked, fed, or both. Alex says it sounds like they should get some sleep themselves then. Joy sits on the bed and says she doesn’t know if she can sleep in her neck brace, but Alex reminds her that the doctor said she has to keep it on for at least a few days. Joy wants to loosen it but can’t reach it, so Alex helps her with it.

Gwen complains that counterfeits are so hard to spot these days and reminds Leo of one in their past. Leo tells her about a fake watch that he had as they laugh together. Gwen tells Gabi that she and Leo were trying to climb the social ladder back then. Leo says they went tumbling off. Gwen talks about always thinking it was a victimless crime. Gabi says now they know better. Leo figured most designers would roll over this kind of thing and asks if they can even fight it. Gabi declares that she can and will with everything she’s got.

Belle and Chad go over the program, trying to figure out the clues. Chad wonders why the U and V are underlined. Chad brings up that Thomas has a spy kit with a UV light that displays invisible ink. Belle points out Verdi being underlined as well, so she goes to get a UV light of John’s from her room.

Theo tells Stephanie that he can’t stay over, pointing out that he doesn’t have his toothbrush. Stephanie informs him that she has an extra one that’s never been used. Theo asks if Alex won’t be upset. Stephanie asks why should he be and that she’ll make sure he understands she’s just trying to do something nice for a friend. Theo then agrees to stay over.

Leo asks what Gabi is going do to fight the counterfeits. Gabi says she’ll do whatever it takes to shut those websites down so they can’t profit off hard work. Gwen tells Gabi that she has her and Leo’s full backing. Leo wishes he could send a cease and desist order to Javi and Gus.

Gus asks Javi about being worried about Leo. Javi responds that he’s over that and that Leo has to face reality as he’s not his problem anymore. Javi and Gus then continue kissing.

Theo lays on the couch but Stephanie brings him actual bedding and sees him without his shirt on. Theo thanks her for letting him stay as Stephanie says that’s what friends are for.

Joy falls asleep in bed, so Alex puts a blanket over her.

Chad and Belle use a UV flashlight on the Verdi program and discover the symbol of a Celtic cross, wondering what that means.
