You know what’s, um… you know what’s amazing is, this — this game that we’re playing, backgammon, I mean, it dates back more than 5,000 years. Didn’t realize I was in for a history lesson. Please enlighten me. Well, they say — that was lucky — gilgamesh, you know, the mesopotamian king that was searching for immortality, he would play. Well, I guess he’d want to do something if he was going to live forever. Right? Right? And then, you know, big-time — big-time player? Cleopatra. Oh, wow. And maybe the best of all, lucille ball. Yeah. Lucy and sammy davis, they would just take over these big hollywood parties and just sit down and start playing backgammon. I hope you’re not trying to distract me with all this incredible information and dazzling charm. The dazzling charm, it just — it comes naturally. The backgammon history is, you know, just a bonus. Mm, I see. So you’re a charmer and a nerd. You know, that’s a winning combination. I’m — I’m sorry. Did you just call me nerd? Oh. Wow. You just beat the nerd. I think I like this game. Robert told me that his complicated life just got less complicated. And isn’t that attractive? Anyway, and then our conversation became a whole lot more complicated after olivia quartermaine walked over and started pressing robert for inside information on the sec case and was there a possible deal on the table where my client carly could give up my client sonny. And you were all ears, weren’t you?

[ Chuckles ] Well, of course I was. Robert didn’t seem to appreciate that. I… I just don’t know if we’re compatible. You really like those bad-boy clients, don’t you? I like the bad-boy clients?

[ Chuckles ] Anyway, none of this is what I wanted to talk to you about, anyway. -No? -No. Okay. I am consulting on a new case, and I need your great wisdom. Have you ever heard of bitzecure? Bitsecure? No, no, no — Z. Bitzecure. It’s cryptocurrency. Oh, I — no. Cryptocu– I don’t do that. I know. Well, neither do I, but just stay with me. It’s a digital-currency security startup, and our client is the C.F.O. Who is being accused of stealing the keys to a big wallet, which has somehow gone missing. A big wallet? Yeah, but it’s — it’s not a real wallet. It’s a — it’s a digital wallet. And he says he’s being framed by the C.E.O., Who is apparently a real “crypto bro,” according to my associate. Well, that’s a “he said, he said.” The wife of the crypto bro C.E.O. Says she actually witnessed our client downloading funds, so it’s a “he said, she said, he said.” Well, it sounds like you don’t believe the “she said.” So, do you have any evidence? Mnh-mnh. That’s the issue. The security is all in the digital ether, so there’s no paper trail. It’s — it’s keystrokes and clicks, and, no, I don’t believe her. And according to my associate, her husband is a real shark. So where does the shark swim, and what does the shark eat? Are you having a stroke? What are you talking about? Hunger. I may not know anything about tech bros, but I know something about bros. And if it were me, I would be looking into the proclivities and the extracurricular activities of this certain C.E.O., And you might find something that his wife doesn’t like. And if she is going out on a limb for a lying cheater, or worse, she might think twice. Alexis davis, you are yummy and brilliant and devious. All’s fair in love and law.

[ Laughs ] Yeah, I’ll fill you in when you get here. I’m at the stables. Thanks again, sam. Does your case really look that bad? No one can disprove gladys’s claim that I stole that bracelet. Well, hang in there. You have the full support of my entire family. Granny aside, we’d hate to lose you. You mean leo would. No, we’d all miss you. We’ve all gotten used to having you around, especially leo.

[ Sighs ] You’d miss me if I went to prison, wouldn’t you, boy? Apparently, there’s a few people out there who would. Don’t worry, comet. I won’t let gladys get rid of me that easily. The hope is that the induced sedation allowed ned’s brain to rest, preventing any further swelling and even decreasing it. “The hope” — that’s carefully worded. We medical professionals are discouraged from giving blanket assurances. But I can tell you that ned’s medical team is cautiously optimistic. Thank you. Okay. So, uh, what’s next? We’ll wake him up and further evaluate his cognitive state. I was — I was told that there was a slight chance that, uh… that there would be some lasting effects. Like what? We’re getting ahead of ourselves. Instead of rattling off a list of possible complications, why don’t we start with removing ned’s I.V. Sedation and go from there?

Miss it, don’t you? Miss what? Being a lawyer. I can hear it. Miss it? Being a lawyer is like voluntarily signing up to go into battle with an army of paperwork and legal jargon. It’s like navigating a perverse maze of precedents and cases that have no mercy. Yes, but — but cracking the case, wiping the smug grin off the face of opposing counsel. You never did that to me, of course, but then there’s winning, winning, winning! Pages and pages and pages of statutory law that you have to memorize only to find out that it’s just been revised. It’s like putting together a giant puzzle. No sleep. You get no sleep. You have no life because you know that you have to be in court for the next 20 days in a row. That’s why we have caffeine. Only to watch an innocent person be exonerated and order restored to a chaotic world. Oh, my god. I miss it so much. It’s like losing a limb. I miss arguing in court. I love to argue. And — and the thrill of advocating for justice.

[ Breathes deeply ] Oh. That’s who I am. Yeah. I got to be doing it, diane. I can’t just stand on the sidelines and watch. You mean like a reporter? Sam: Cody? This better be important. I have to get back to the hospital. Yeah. How’s ned? Uh, leo and brook lynn were here earlier. So was, uh, tracy. Oh. You met tracy. Yeah, it was quite the experience. Although, you know, she’s a mother who’s worried about her son. You know, they’re all worried. Yeah, exactly. Dante is worried. We were at the hospital supporting his mother. So if you wouldn’t mind just keeping this brief, what’s your plan? Okay. Well, that’s what I need your help with. Uh, wait. I thought you needed help executing a plan, not brainstorming the whole damn thing. Help’s help, sam. You’ve never had problems executing your own schemes before. Okay. Way harsh. You could gain inside knowledge on gladys a hell of a lot easier than I could. Besides, you’re the only one who knows the whole story and believes me. No, I do not know the whole story. You never told me gladys’s motive for framing you. But you do believe me, right? Nina made you cry? What has she done now? No, no, it’s not what you think. These are tears of joy. I’m in a parallel universe. Nina sparked joy?

[ Chuckles ] Very funny. You must be feeling better. I’m just trying to process. I know that your relationship with nina has been… disastrous. Fraught. But — and this is all my fault, but there was a time when nina and I were at odds. Remember? And now you’ll tell me again how that’s all changed? It has changed. Nina just wrote me the most wonderful letter of recommendation to end my guardianship. Sasha, that’s great. I’m so proud of you. Thank you. I am finally ready to move forward. How about you? So, tracy’s putting you through the paces, huh? Oh, yeah. Now I know how comet feels. You know, she’s not as bad as she seems. Even though they have this whole love-hate thing going on. Yeah. But brook lynn can hold her own. It’s actually kind of fun to watch. Oh. Well, it looks like someone’s getting desensitized to the quartermaine ways. Never. Do you know what I want to know, though? How are you holding up through all this? Honestly, it’s a — it’s a bit of a roller coaster. But we’re getting to the other side. I’m just very, very thankful for, uh, the nanny, because with wiley’s endless energy and trying to keep amelia on track, it’s a — it’s a nonstop juggling act. Yeah, I can’t imagine that. It’s got to take a lot of strength and patience, especially while worrying about willow. How long is this gonna take? What, do you have a pickleball championship? Why don’t you go wait outside with dante and leo, okay? Tj said it could be 20 minutes, it could be a few hours. You’re acting like a 6-year-old on a road trip. Just stop. Where is the doctor? So today is the last day of being just… nurse baldwin. How does it feel? Feels good. It feels good. Obviously, I’m happy to have been chosen for this position, but I just hope I can do some good, you know? Maybe bring some healing to this hospital. Lord knows it can use it after losing epiphany. Yeah. I mean, it’S… hard on everyone, but I think you’re the right person to do it. Bring back a little of that humanity that we all need. Thank you. Welcome. I keep telling myself that this is not about me, this is about my service to the patients and all the staff who work so hard. I have been linked to this hospital my entire life. I mean, my grandfather was dr. Hardy, the symbol of virtue, the true hero of general hospital. It’s in this place that I have had my highest highs. And my lowest lows. This place has put me back together more times than I care to count. And let’s not forget all the legends of the nurses’ station. There’s jessie brewer and bobbie spencer and epiphany. Sometimes I wonder if I’m strong enough to be like them. No, you are strong. In the end, you might be the strongest of them all. I bailed you out, remember? If I thought you were a thief, I wouldn’t have bothered. Thanks. You know what? Maybe it’s best if we do handle this legally. Why don’t you ask dante for help? I didn’t want to compromise him. Wait. What? But compromising me, not a problem? Well, I mean, I could just skip town, but then you’d be out your bail money. No, I would find you in a heartbeat. I have no doubt. Ah. Just kills me that sasha doesn’t know who gladys really is. Which is why we need to prove that that bracelet was planted. Sasha needs to know that gladys corbin can’t be trusted. Uh… so does port charles. Let’s just focus on keeping you out of jail, please. Let’s not bite off more than we can chew. Comet says, “why limit ourselves?” My heart breaks a little every single time there’s this — this moment with amelia and willow’s not there to experience it. I mean, the other day, amelia, she — she looked up at me, and she smiled at me for the first time, like she really saw me. And it was — it was incredible, chase. It really was. But willow, she wasn’t there. She — she was here. You know, I try to record everything I can on my phone, but it’s not the same. Willow, she — she — she needs to be there, you know, experiencing it firsthand to see the look on amelia’s face light up. It’s time that she’ll never get back. She’ll be able to watch those videos forever, and she will treasure every single one of them even more because she will know that you took the time to record when you were going through your own hell. I just met with dr. Montague. He’s the psychiatrist the court appointed to evaluate me. And…how’d it go? Pretty good, I think. It’s hard to know for sure. Well, I am sure dr. Montague was very impressed. Why wouldn’t he be? You’ve survived things that would’ve broken anyone else. You’re one to talk. Well, having the support of friends and family has made all the difference. Same. And like it or not, willow, but nina was a big part of that for me. She was there for me when I gave her every reason to hate me. I pretended to be the thing that she wanted more than anything. She was searching for her daughter. And what valentin and i did was horrible. But nina somehow found the strength and love to forgive me. And that could not have been easy. Sasha, I see what you’re doing, but nina has put me and the family I love through the wringer. Some things just can’t be forgiven.

[ Laughs ] That dig was duly noted, by the way. That dig was meant with no disrespect. Oh, of course not. And just so you know, you’re not the only person I complain to about my job. While you were chatting it up at the savoy with robert’s ex, I was complaining to felicia about my job. You? Complain? All right. I believe in free press. I believe in reporters. And maybe my passion for complaining ju fuels that commitment.

[ Sighs ] I just wish I were more fulfilled at the invader. But…? Well… I mean, I sometimes make a difference. I sometimes shine a light on a story that’s important. But those stories hardly ever happen. I mean, for every impactful story, there’s a gazillion mundane, stupid ones about celebrity gossip or… fashion. It’s like finding a needle of significance in a haystack of triviality. It’s not exactly woodward and bernstein. Hardly. Or maybe I’m just spreading myself too thin and I need to take advantage of my support team, you know, and do some serious outreach. Yes. Your support team. That now includes —

[ Clears throat ] — The wonderful esme prince. Yeah. Yeah, you’re right, chase. I, uh… I need to focus on the future. Because once willow’s released, we’ll have the rest of our lives to make more moments — together. And you will. But until then, don’t forget to send a flare up when things get tough. Sooner than you think. Your relationship with nina is complicated, but so is mine. I lied to her, I conned her, I broke her heart, and I put brando through hell with my addiction. Both times I was the recipient of grace. Forgiven. And just recently, I wrongfully accused a friend of something. And you were forgiven? He doesn’t hold it against me, but… he’s not sure he can be my friend. I’m sorry. So am I. It’s painful wanting to connect to someone you’ve wronged, even if they don’t owe you a thing. Sam: Your innocence is gonna be a lot easier to prove than gladys’s guilt. Tell that to my lawyer. What lawyer? Scott baldwin. What?! Scott baldwin? Why — why isn’t he dealing with this? Honey, you’re one of the wisest people I know. Sometimes you just get a little… led astray by — by your passion and idealism. Well, in this case, I was just trying to provide some stability to esme so she doesn’t run off with laura’s grandchild in tow. Very generous of you. Actually, I have a soft spot for esme. Oh. I know firsthand what it’s like to have a psychotic parent, and she’s got two. And gregory actually keeps her calm. Gregory? Yeah. He’s agreed to join the editorial board. Well, I thought you were persona non grata after you went over his head and called the dean. Yeah, well, we have an understanding now. I can be his friend and care about him. I just can’t meddle. And the editorial board is actually really happy to have him, and he’s happy to be in his erudite element. So all’s well that ends well. To quote the bard. Can I read you something? No matter our mistakes, shortcomings or circumstances, everyone deserves another chance to build a life that once seemed impossible.” That’s what nina wrote about you, isn’t it? She writes well. ‘Cause she writes from her heart? But maybe… she was also writing about herself. Maybe it’s a prayer of some sorts. All I know is that nina’s capacity for forgiveness is massive. Something tells me that it might be hereditary. You know, I am glad that you and brook lynn are back together. You’re good for each other. Well, there’s never a dull moment, that’s for sure. Last weekend, she took me to the beechers corners flea market. And would’ve thought that logan’s or the cartullo showroom was more of her thing. Yeah, me too. But she said she had a surprise for me, and then she whisked me away on this whirlwind tour, but, dude, she was possessed. It was like she had a sixth sense for finding vintage clothing. That sounds wholesome enough. Brook lynn is usually all over the place, but you ground her. You know she can be her own worst enemy. I’ll say. But you’re like a moral compass for her. You know, it’s just… it’s important that each person brings something to the relationship so they can complement each other. That’s what willow does for me. She really helped mellow me out and focus on what really matters. And you do that for brook lynn. Really? Definitely. Okay. Well, if I do that for brook lynn, what does she do for me?

[ Buttons clicking ] Michael, it’s drew. I just, um — I just wanted to say thank you so much for holding down the fort at aurora. No, I have not been to G.H. Yet. Things got a little bit crazy last night, but I’m — I’m gonna get there soon. I just, um… I got to take care of a little business first. Let’s just say that I am taking the future into my own hands. [ Scoffs ] It was only a few days ago that you went on the home & heart shopping channel and you almost had another break. I was being manipulated by those sleazy producers. I wasn’t hearing a baby cry in my head. They were playing that noise in my earpiece. Still, the worst could have happened. But the worst

didn’t happen. I was able to hold it together, and the producers backed off, thanks to cody. Well, even you have to admit it, gladys. Cody stepped up and saved the day. Oliviaee. Blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, jesus. Holy mary, mother of god, pray for us sinners now… olivia, are you okay?

[ Sniffles ] Yeah. When I was a little kid growing up in — in bensonhurst, I always remember all the — all the grandmas and the great-aunts pulling out their rosaries, you know, in a time of crisis. And I always swore that I would never be that… old-fashioned, you know, old lady. And then I got old.

[ Chuckles ] And I realized… how scary life can be. And I’m so grateful for my rosaries and for my prayer and for my — for my faith. You know, it comforts me. Why’d you stop praying? Because… honey, I’ve been praying all night. I don’t feel like god is listening. If god listens to anyone, it’s you. Well, then why don’t we have any news about your dad, huh? Just give me a sign, please, something. Hey. Drew told me what happened to ned. And I wanted to be here for you and your family. Olivia, this is great. Carly, you’re an angel. You’re not against sasha regaining control of her life, are you? Okay, let’s update you on what we’ve learned about ned. Okay, um, I don’t want to intrude. So I’m — I’m gonna take off. Okay.

[ Crying ] Carly, wait. Will you stay, please? Of course. Of course I’ll stay with you. Okay. Okay. We’re ready. Late last night, we put ned under twilight sedation for his brain swelling. Oh, god. I’m sorry. No, no. Tj explained that, um, the swelling was moderate enough that — that they may be able to bring it down with the — with medication, with the diuretics. That’s right? That’s correct, yes. We’re keeping ned in a twilight state to manage his pain until the swelling goes down. Unfortunately, we’re not seeing as much improvement as we’d like. W-what does that mean? That means we’ll continue to monitor him for now. But if the swelling persists, we’ll have to bring him in for surgery.

[ Sobs ] You iod. Taggert, it’s only 11:00 A.M., And clearly you’ve already had a few. Are you okay? Why wouldn’t I be okay? I was just wondering if you had spoken with — with taggert at all recently. No. Why? Because he might need a friend right about now.

[ Sighs ] The dna results came back. And curtis is trina’s father. What you need isn’t found in a bottle. Says you. Come on, let’s get you back to your room. I’m on my way to the conference room downstairs to meet with the sec attorneys and work out the plea deal. But it’s my job to look after your best interests. So once again, I’m going to advise you not to do this. I hear you, again. Not changing my mind. But you want me to hold off finalizing the deal because of that ace up your sleeve, correct? Right. Yeah, just don’t finalize anything yet, okay? Um…I’m still holding on to hope. You okay? I’m not sure. I think I just saw my ex-brother-in-law. Okay, everyone. Yes? I want to make a toast to my son. I understand that, gladys, and I know that you feel pressured to do right for me out of obligation to brando. But… it’s starting to feel like you can’t see how far I’ve come. Like at that last home & heart taping. The producers were literally messing with my head, hoping that I would melt down so they could get a pathetic boost for their ratings. But I didn’t freak out. I held it together. And you’re the one who argued against me making that appearance in the first place. I’m starting to feel like you don’t believe in me. No. No. That is not it. Then what is it? Stella, I know you are excited about having trina be part of the family. Hell, you’re — you’re her great-aunt. I’m — I’m her grandfather. I’m excited, too. Well, she’s not choosing to live with carly over you. She’s already josslyn’s roommate, so she’s just extending the arrangement over the summer. We got to give her that. What you’re saying makes sense, but it’s — it’s still extremely difficult. I know. It’s gonna take some getting used to for everyone. Maybe you can explain that to aunt stella, except for I think my dad’s already taken care of that. Well, maybe that gives us a chance to talk about us. Curtis, where do we really stand?

[ Laughs ] Oops.

[ Laughs ] Well, this — this is better. How about we, um… let’s order some room service. You want a bloody mary or a mimosa? The only thing you’re drinking is water. You know alcohol isn’t gonna solve your problems. What do you know about my problems? Portia told me about the dna test. Mm. So you know a lot.

[ Sighs ] But you don’t know what it feels like. ‘Cause you didn’t have to wake up finding out that tj wasn’t your son. No. No, I didn’T. One minute I have a daughter, and the next minute I…don’T. And there’s no way for me to get her back.

If they can’t get his swelling in his brain to go down, they’re gonna have to operate. That can be a really dangerous surgery. I know. And olivia is taking it so hard. Well, I’m — I’m — I’m sure she was really happy to have you there. I-I don’t know about that. I think I made everything worse. What do you mean? Well, I said something that came out wrong, you know, how — how you would risk yourself to save anyone. And she interpreted that to mean that I didn’t want ned to get better and that I think he deserves what’s happening to him. And I don’T. That is not true. No, olivia’s just frantic with worry. She needed a place to vent. You were it, okay? You guys are way too close not to figure this out.

[ Sighs ] I don’t know if we will. I mean, come on. These insider trading charges are looming over everything. And if ned stays in the hospital, our one plan to get out from underneath these sec charges, I mean, that’s not gonna happen. You know that. I’m not counting anything out just yet. Did you find something? I did. On tracy. I made a promise to take care of you, honey. Brando was gone, and you needed help. I want to do right by my son. You have, gladys, and so much more. I would not be doing this if I did not feel ready to take control of my life again. I hope you’re right. Dr. Montague: Sasha gilmore? Yes. I am dr. Damon montague. I’m here to discuss terminating your guardianship. Nice to meet you, dr. Montague. This is my guardian and mother-in-law, gladys corbin. Nice to meet you, ms. Corbin. Will you follow me? The doctors explained that they are gonna try to bring down the swelling in his brain with diuretics, but, um, if it doesn’t come down fast enough, he’s gonna need to go into surgery. Okay, but it sounds like they’re doing everything they can to avoid that, right? Yeah.

[ Cellphone rings ] Yeah. You okay? Yeah. I got to take this. Yeah, yeah. Of course. I’m sorry. It’s okay. Hey, do you want to — do you want to talk about . The only thing that matters right now is ned coming back to us. Honey, even if he doesn’t need surgery, I mean, we don’t know. There could be brain damage. Okay, hey, look, look. There — there could be — there could be so many — ma, stop. I know it’s hard right now in moments of uncertainty to kind of just let your mind go a little wild, but — but just try and stay in the here and now. Okay. Okay? Okay. I know. I know. I just — I was so upset with ned over this stupid sec thing. Stop. Stop. It’s just — look at me, mom. You already told him that you knew he wasn’t responsible for that anonymous tip, okay? Don’t — don’t do that to yourself, please. I’m just thanking god for that. I mean, it’s the only thing that’s making this even slightly tolerable. But I just — I just keep thinking of all the time that we lost. Time we might never get back.

[ Sobbing ] I’m sure it was hard to learn that trina isn’t your biological daughter. But she isn’t gone. You’re still the man who raised her. I’ve seen how much trina loves you. That dna test didn’t change any of that for her. Well…

[ Scoffs ] That’s what I told myself — nothing can break our bond. I think I actually convinced myself that I was prepared for the possibility that she might not be my daughter. But deep down, I was just holding on to the hope that the test would confirm that she was really my daughter. And when it was the opposite… I was crushed. Well, of course you were. And anyone would feel the same. Listen, it’s gonna take some time to process, but the shock will wear off eventually and you and trina will pick right back up where you left off. I’m keeping a brave face up for trina. I don’t want her to worry about me. I mean, she’s not just related to curtis. She’s also related to marshall, stella, tj. I mean…

[ Sighs ] Wow. If trina wants to get to know her real family, I don’t want to get in the way.

You are trina’s real family, too. They all know that. Why won’t you let yourself see it? We’re figuring things out. But we’re not. We’re dancing around the issue, and we’re not really talking about it. We found out that trina is your biological daughter and you missed out on her entire childhood. You must…resent me. I’m not gonna lie. I would have loved to have seen trina grow up. But what’s done is done. I-I’m not gonna let it hold me back, because I still have every moment from here on out to connect with my daughter. And if she’ll have me, I am here for it. I’ll never forgive myself for staying silent as long as I did. Well, you know what? At some point, you just got to forgive and move on. You know, a few weeks ago, I never would have imagined that we would all be here… yeah. …Together.

[ Chuckles ] Is there still hope for us to become a real family? There is.

Trina’s gonna get to know all about irene. You just have to give her some time. You sound so sure. That’s ’cause I am. You just have to stop pushing. All this — all this is new. But once the newness wears off, trina is gonna want to get to know this side of her family. Trust. I don’t know. That girl really loves marcus taggert. And we have to encourage all of that. I’ve gotten to know trina, and I believe that trina really wants to be a part of us, and that is when we’ll be able to tell her all about the family she didn’t have a chance to be with, the family that she has right now. I pray that you’re right. And I will wait patiently for that day to come. You? Patient? Oh. [ Scoffs ] Look, I have been overrun with boys in this family. And now that we finally have a girl, I’m not gonna push her away.

[ Laughs ] If it’s okay with you… can you open this when it’s just us? Sure. Trina was just telling me about her, um, plans for summer, and, well, everything was normal, and, um…

[ Breathes deeply ]

[ Sighs ] …I started to, um, notice her features that I always thought came from me and, um… how she laughed… like my sister gia… and how she got so… serious when she was thinking like my mom did. And then I realized that, um… none of it was from me or my blood. Everything I thought that made up my daughter came from somebody else. Is it wrong to say that I’m nervous? Of course I want to be independent again, and I do believe that I’m ready. But actually being here, it’s — it’s daunting. Well, it’s my job to take off some of that pressure. I’m here to give my medical opinion to the court so the judge can decide if you’re really ready for this. I read your file. You experienced two traumatic losses and all while living in the public eye. It must have been incredibly difficult. It was definitely a struggle. How would you characterize your relationship with your guardian? I am grateful to gladys. When my husband, brando, died, I was shattered. To lose him so soon after losing liam… I couldn’t get out of bed. And gladys really stepped up for me. I mean, we may have butted heads a few times, but I always know that gladys will have my best interests at heart. Tell me more about your butting heads. I was confronting tracy about trying to convince ned to go to the sec in exchange for me keeping her secret. But that’s when ned came charging into the pool area. Then he tripped and he fell. Ohh! And then naturally, tracy tried to pin it on me, say that I pushed him, but the security cameras covered me. Thank god I insisted on putting those cameras around the pool.

[ Cellphone rings ] That’s what happens when I own the place. That’s right. Hold on. It’s diane. Hey, diane. Really? Wait, wait, wait. Drew is here with me now. Okay, the U.S. Attorney called diane. They want to meet diane and me in their office. Okay, so this is where they make the offer for me to turn against sonny in exchange for dropping the charges against me and drew, right? Probably. Alright. Yeah. Wait. I want you to tell them that I’m not gonna turn against someone I care about to get out of this, okay? Make sure you tell them that. Thank you.

[ Sighs ] That’s very brave. Brave? But I got to ask you. What? Now what? Sam: Hey. Dante: Hey. Everything okay? Yeah. Sorry. It was scout. But, uh, she’s fine. Um, are you okay? Do you need anything? Are you hungry? I’m good. Thank you, honey. Appreciate it. He’s gonna need surgery, isn’t he? No, I was just going over his latest test results. Ned actually turned the corner. [ Sniffles ] They already have. I was thinking you never got to receive any of my homemade gifts as a kid. It’s perfect. Thank you. And maybe one day you’ll be able to put a picture of us in it. I think we could do something about that now.

[ Camera clicks ] Come on, zeke. We need to sort this out before you talk to your sister. Hi. Hey. Are you done with your meeting yet? Are you ready to join us at the pool for curtis’ party? I’m still waiting to hear back on some lunch plans. Okay, what’s that look about? Something wrong? I thought I just saw taggert. Like, we didn’t talk, but he didn’t seem well. I’m just glad that someone was there to help him. Now that the swelling is reduced, we’ll prepare to bring ned out of the twilight state. First, we’ll make sure his vitals are stable. Then we’ll bring him out of the anesthesia.

[ Crying ] And then — then he just wakes up and he’ll be okay? As with any head injury, there are a lot of unknowns. Okay. Once ned wakes up, we’ll be able to better assess the extent of his injuries. But we’re cautiously optimistic. Okay. Thanks, tj. Thank you. It’s always a pleasure delivering good news.

[ Both chuckle ] Hey, ma, see? I told you everything’s gonna be okay. Oh, thank god. It’s about time this family had some good news. Well, either ned recovers and gets the sec to drop the charges or we fight like hell in court. But we’d both be putting our freedom on the line and we don’t have to do that. What do you mean? We both don’t have to go down for this. Only one of us does.

You’re not alone anymore. Hey, uh… truce?

[ Siren wails ]

[ Telephone rings ] 10th floor.

[ Indistinct conversations ] Just a moment, please. They’re asking to speak with the head nurse. I’ll take it. This is the head nurse. Elizabeth baldwin.

[ Breathes sharply ] Oh, I’m so sorry. Unfortunately, nurse johnson is no longer with us. Thank you. Yes, she was a — a very special person. Of course I can. I’ll transfer you. Mm-hmm.

[ Receiver clicks ]

[ Sighs ] I still miss her. Me, too. All the time. But being here is when I miss epiphany the most. Austin: Hey. Mm. There’s something going on out there. Do you know what’s going on out by the pool? Apparently, somebody fell. They called the paramedics. Anyway, have a seat. Oh, thank you. This is cozy, right? A public place but still away from it all. Well, I thought privacy would be best, considering we’re talking about betraying the most dangerous man I know. You okay? Yeah. Would you believe me if I told you I was?

[ Chuckles ] Is this still about what happened after I got back from nixon falls? Because that’s all — I — you have to — you have to know that’s all behind us, right? Mm. We’ve — we’ve both done things that we regret. You have. I have. And guess what — you move forward. Yeah. Sonny and I are engaged. Oh. Not for long. Gee, ned, most people say, “congratulations.” Nina, just accept the fact that you and sonny will not be living happily ever after. You know, that tip was anonymous. There’s no way that anyone will be able to prove that you did it, ned. Because I didn’t do it —

you did. I know that we’ve moved on from what happened back then. What’s the problem? It’s just… I will always regret the pain that I caused you. I’m not leaving you, ned.

[ Sniffles ] Not for one single second. What happened? Okay, um… drew attacked ned. He practically killed him! Put your badge to use and arrest him for assault! Drew attacked my dad? W-wait. What? Th– that — that is not what happened. Ned came charging in here, and it looked like he tripped on something, hit his head, and fell in the pool. It was an accident. It was attempted murder. Okay. If anything, I saved his life. I went in the pool, and I pulled him out before he drowned, tracy. You were covering your tracks. Oh, my — if it had just been the two of us, you would have let him drown. Well, that — that doesn’t sound like drew. This is not the first time he attacked ned.

[ Sighs ] He sucker-punched him back at the house. You were there. You saw it. Brook lynn? That’s true, but — what are you waiting for? Arrest him. Tracy, this is not the time! They’re taking your father down in the service elevator. I’m going to ride with him in the ambulance. I’m right behind you. Okay. I’m going, too. Do your duty.

[ Radio chatter ] Hey… hey, I-I mean… I was nowhere near ned when he fell, okay? I — are you seriously going to arrest me?

As I’m settling in as the new head nurse, I’m trying not to compare myself to epiphany, but rather do the job to the best of my ability. But there are moments… when I forget that she’s gone, and I just wish so badly that I could ask for her advice or have her listen to me vent or watch her make some arrogant doctor twitch in fear. You liked that, didn’t you?

[ Chuckles ] Very much so. Hmm. A little less fun, though, when you’re on the receiving end. Oh, please. She liked you right from the start. And if she was tough on you, it was only because she knew you could do better. Yeah, I just hope I lived up to her expectations. Well, if you didn’t, she would have told you. Yeah, she would, wouldn’t she?

[ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ] It is so hard to say goodbye to her. I loved her. She taught me so much — never to take this place for granted. That’s one of the perksof medicine, isn’t it? It’s never boring. It’s never finished. There’s always something left to learn. Very upbeat and optimistic of you. Hmm. You sound surprised. Not really. You’re a lot more hopeful than you want people to believe. I don’t know. He was unconscious when the paramedics dragged him out of here. Wait, is this the same ned that ratted out you and carly spencer to the sec? That’s him. Drew. Please tell me you didn’t — you didn’T… no! I-I didn’t do anything. I was — I was nowhere near him. Un– unfortunately, right now, it’s my word against his mother’S. And his mother is tracy quartermaine. Ohh. And no one else saw what happened? Afraid not. Try and understand. I-I think there’s more dangerous things in this world than sonny corinthos. How bad is it that he hasn’t regained consciousness yet? It’s entirely too soon to jump to any conclusions. Soon? Feels like we’ve been waiting forever. I know. And I know the waiting is hard. But I promise you, ned’s getting the best possible care.

[ Crying ] Can you, uh… can you tell me what happened? I don’t know. I wasn’t there. By the time I got to the pool area, he was already on the ground and the paramedics were all over him. Okay, let’s go. Okay. Are you certain that mason is acting on orders? And could it be that he’s just torturing us for the hell of it because he likes having power over you? You always deny crimes that have actually been committed. I mean, why wouldn’t you defend a former navy seal who’s trained to kill? Why would a man like that ever get violent? I-in a public place? [ Recorder beeps ] Chase: Detective harrison chase to interview drew cain in the matters of injuries sustained by ned quartermaine this evening at the metro court hotel pool. Also present is drew cain’s attorney, zeke robinson. Mr. Cain, you are here voluntarily. Is that correct? I am. Could you walk me through what happened? Tracy quartermaine and I, we were in the pool area. Um, ned came rushing out. He — he was calling my name. Kind of came around the corner. Seemed like he tripped on something. He went down, hit his head, immediately rolled into the pool. Facedown, unconscious, bleeding. I went in. I pulled him out of the pool. I determined that he wasn’t breathing. I checked for a pulse. There was no pulse. I started performing cpr. I told tracy to call 911. And…I mean, that’s that, until the paramedics showed up and — and they took over. Thank you. Some follow-up questions. You said you and tracy were at the pool area. Were you alone? Yes, we were. What were you doing? We were talking. About? Business. Family. Quartermaines, they kind of go hand in hand. It’s kind of an odd place to discuss business, don’t you think?

[ Scoffs ] What tracy and I needed to speak about required privacy. Yo u said ned quartermainewas rushing toward you? Yeah, he was — he was walking very quickly. Yes. Did the two of you make any contact before he fell? Absolutely not. He didn’t even come remotely close to me. Why do you think tracy quartermaine would say otherwise? No, you don’t have to answer that. My client is not a mind reader. Fair enough. Why do you think tracy made that accusation?

[ Sighs ] Tracy and I are at odds. Family issues, I guess. Detective, there’s something you should see.

[ Sighs ] Talk to me. How are you doing? How am I doing? I mean, I’m — I’m fine. I’m just worried about ned. Me, too. Because from what you told me, he’s your best shot at making these insider trading charges go away. As requested, here’s the security camera footage from the metro court pool area. Hmm. Let’s take a look. Ned has sustained a tbi, a traumatic brain injury. When he fell, the impact of his brain against his skull caused his brain to swell. What is that exactly? We can see some physical damage on the scans, but we won’t know the extent of any cognitive damage until he regains consciousness. My dad is still out? Isn’t that bad? Not necessarily. The body often shuts down to devote all of its energy on the injury — the brain in particular. It will actually reroute neural pathways after an injury, but that takes time. So, this respite may actually assist in his healing.

[ Crying ] Okay, but what if ned doesn’t wake up tomorrow or the day after that?

[ Sniffles ] Well, the longer ned remains unconscious, the longer we go without a clear sense of how and where his brain has been affected.

[ Crying ] Mr. Quartermaine is also suffering from hypoxemia. Tracy: Which is? Just let him speak. Don’t you talk to me that way. Shh! Dr. Ashford, please continue. Hypoxemia means the oxygen level in mr. Quartermaine’s blood is low. This indicates that his brain was deprived from oxygen for a brief time.

[ Voice breaking ] Okay. Are you saying that my dad… may never wake up? Mason wants inside information on sonny and this pikeman. Mm-hmm. Well, good luck with that. Sonny doesn’t discuss his business with me. I mean, we share a child together. That’s it. And honestly, that’s the only reason he didn’t kill me years ago. No, sonny barely tolerates me. He certainly doesn’t trust me. Okay. Okay. Well, you’ll just have to figure out a different way to get the information.

[ Breathes sharply ] How, exactly? Ava, you’re really smart. You’ll — you’ll — you’ll figure it out. You can — you can listen to his conversations. You can go through his papers —

[ Chuckling ] Yeah, right. Because sonny just leaves incriminating documents tying him to arms dealers and paramilitary contractors just lying around. Okay, now you’re just — I mean, that’s about as likely as him having a conversation about it near enough that I could overhear it. You n do it. You can. And I-I know you can. You just got to think outside the box. Au stin, the feds have beenafter sonny for decades. They — they — they use actual undercover agents and surveillance equipment. And you’ve probably noticed that the guy is walking around a free man. How could I possibly do any better? Well, you — you know him. So you can do better because you know all of his vulnerabilities and his weaknesses and you know how to use them against him. Uh-huh. And what makes you think that? Because — because we share avery? Uh-huh. We may both love our daughter, but she was hardly conceived in a moment of mutual regard. Okay. But you still have access because of avery — you got to help me out here. You got to help you out here. Sonny is avery’s father. I’m not going to betray him like that. You should rethink that. Because… w-w-when mason talks about taking sonny down, he’s not just talking about sending him to prison. W– wait. Mason wants to kill sonny? All of avery’s life, right, I’m imagining that sonny’s made you walk this emotional tightrope and jump through these hoops. And — and when was the last time he tried to take avery away from you? Well, he did that a lot. But not — not — not lately. Okay, but what if he does again? M-maybe next week or next month or next year or next time he feels grumpy. Come on. Ava, wouldn’t your life just be, like, a little bit better if sonny were gone for good?

isn’t being charged? No. According to the witness, mr. Quartermaine’s fall was an accident. Detective chase wanted me to thank you for your cooperation and apologize for the inconvenience. Okay. Well, thank you very much, officer. I’m glad that, uh, this got cleared up. Well, I’m glad that turned out okay. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Me, too. I, uh… I wonder what got tracy to change her mind. I don’t like it. And I think that you’re both terrible for putting him in this position. But it’s his choice. I’ll do it. I’ll protect sonny.

[ Exhales deeply ] Okay. Thank you. I really believe this is the best way to keep everybody safe. Look, it’s not going to be easy. Pikeman is massive and dangerous. Yeah. That’s why it’s important for you to keep michael informed. This is a situation sonny has never been in before. And I just hope he doesn’t end up trusting the wrong people. Let me think about it. What’s there to think about? If you could just tell me who mason is working for — no. That’s not going to happen. You really expect me to do this without knowing who I’m doing it for? What I expect is for you to believe that whatever we’re doing, we’re doing for your own good. Oh, please.

He had full faith in his plan, but he was prepared to exact revenge in the event of his failure, in which I think he felt anna devane could always play a part. He was right. And now he’s making her pay for it. Well, I want to clear anna’s name.

[ Breathes deeply ] So how do we prove that her file was doctored? I was curious about carly and drew’s legal situation, so I asked my lawyer about it, ned. You must have misinterpreted. He had a bunch of commendations for keeping a cool head under fire, which is one of the main reasons I hired him. But why are you so interested? Because I want you to hire dex to do another job. Why aren’t you angrier? Why aren’t you angry, period? Both my brother and my mom had the chance to set you free, yet they’re leaving you trapped. Michael gave me a job. The job changed. It happens. I’m just, uh, a little worried about a friend. When the news story broke about you, I started thinking about all the headlines that I’ve been through over the years. Yeah. They don’t feel like headlines now. They seem more like takedowns, quite honestly.

[ Sniffles ] Two were seared in my memory — “wife of crime lord dies in a car bomb.” That’s what — the headline I saw the next morning after my wife died. And the other one was “corinthos son killed in a suspected mob hit” — that was morgan. And I was already in hell from all the, you know, pain [Sighs] And grief… it’s a lot to take, you know? My private life all over the world for everybody to read, everybody to see, everybody to judge. And they don’t know what happened to me. They don’t know how I felt.

[ Sighs ] Just like I don’t know why you did what you did. And that’s what I’m here to tell you… that I’m sorry for how you felt. And I’m sorry for what happened to you. Thank you. Thank you for sharing that. I feel as if sometimes, I just… you know… I just get in my own way. That headline was just a takedown — you know that, right? Well, that’s the problem. It’s not. That is the most difficult part of all of this, is that the news story is — is true. I mean, it — it’s — it’s factually accurate. I did those things. There were reasons. There were justifications. Excuses.

[ Voice breaking ] You know, I made a lot of mistakes at the beginning of my career, and I think I’ve spent most of my life trying to make up for them. Now it’s just come and bit me, right in the most public way. I have done things, allegedly…

[ Both laugh ] …But I’ve done them. Some I, uh, felt there was a reason to do them. There was others that I regret. Yeah. [ Sniffles ] But I always tell myself that… my life, who I am now, should not be limited to the worst things that I’ve done in my life. Right. Just like you. You’re A…great mother. [ Chuckles ] You are courageous. You are brilliant. And no — no matter… I will always consider you my friend. For whatever that’s worth. It’s worth a lot. Michael: The peace between me and sonny right now is — it’s pretty fragile. He’s going to be suspicious if I hire dex out from under him. I want you to pay dex to keep working for sonny. Look, since jason died, sonny doesn’t have someone to be his right hand. What about brick? Brick’s great, but he’s based on the west coast. He can’t be by sonny’s side day in and day out. But dex can. And given your description, he’s obviously qualified. In what way specifically? I want dex to use all of his skills to protect sonny, to follow orders, and if he sees trouble coming, he has to tell you, and, michael,

you need to advise him on how to help sonny. When I met with sonny in his office that day and asked him to fire you, he told me that you would have to go in yourself and you would have to ask him. But he never said anything about refusing to let you quit. Everybody knows that we’re together now. It’s not a secret anymore. Sonny can’t just disappear you and expect nobody to ask questions. And he already knows that i don’t want you working for him. It makes perfect sense that you’d quit. But, josslyn — I’m not saying it will be easy, but it can be done. You would just have to meet with him and respectfully tell him that you want out. Except… I don’t want out. You see, ned’s got connections at the sec. He can make this investigation into me and to carly — he can make it just go away. And you think you can force ned into getting the sec to back off? No, I-I don’T. But I think you can.

[ Laughs ] Oh, I love your sense of humor and your imaginative fantasy world. No fantasy here, tracy. You either persuade ned or I tell him the truth — that you dragged brook lynn into potential intellectual property theft, malfeasance, corporate espionage. These are activities that carry the potential for criminal penalties, tracy. So how is your son going to react when he finds out that you put your granddaughter at risk?

And, yes, it’s in sonny’s best interest, but sonny won’t see it that way. And dex would be a spy, and that can get him killed. I just — I don’t — I don’t see him taking that risk when he can just take the money he’s already earned and disappear. Well, you know dex. Would he really do that?

[ Sighs ] I wouldn’t blame him if he did. I know it would break josslyn’s heart. She cares a lot about him. She truly cares about him. I mean, that’s one of the reasons I came up with this plan. And I know josslyn — her feelings are getting deeper and deeper all the time. And the longer dex stays in port charles, the more devastated she will be if he decides to leave. Well, I don’t know. If he decides to disappear, better it happens now. Are you sure about this? No. I’m not sure about any of this. But I do know I want you to give dex a choice, and let’s see what he decides. You just made this big case as to why you should work for sonny, but you’ll quit if I want you to? I’m very clear that you want me to.

[ Chuckles ] But I’ll quit if it’s the only way we stay together. No. I’m not going to put conditions on our relationship. I’m not going to tell you what you can and can’t do. It’s only going to make you resent me. So I’d rather take my chances and watch you take yours with sonny. You can go be his best lieutenant and risk your life and break the law. After everything that’s going on in my life right now, I could really use a night out with my best friend. Okay, I’m just finishing up. I’ve been helping bobbie all day. It’s not fair that they’re making her pull double-duty as head nurse and chief surgical nurse. Ugh, well, hopefully, it won’t be long until they find a replacement for epiphany. Easier said than done. Well, that’s true. Those are some major shoes to fill. I’m not sure anyone can fill them. Anna? Yeah, it’s me. Listen, call me back, will you? Martin! Where’s anna? I don’t know. Actually, I’m here to see another client. Excuse me? Valentin, please don’t start, okay? You know I can’t discuss the details. Attorney/client privilege and all of that. I am paying you to represent anna now that she’s been arrested by the bureau. Listen, I promise you, anna is not in any danger. She’s been released? ‘Cause she’s not returning my phone calls. He’s had plenty of time to build government contacts, right? He’s got lots of favors owed to him, so if he still knows what strings to pull, he could probably get the sec off our backs. Why would ned do that? We just got to find the right leverage to use against him. That could get us out of this. Sure hope this works.

[ Sighs ] Come on, man. Why haven’t you called me back?

[ Monitor beeping ] Hey, you. Michael. What are you doing here? The doctor said I could sit with you. So… how you feeling? I’m exhausted. But at the same time, I’m so excited. You got to be proud, you know? I know he’s a superior, but you know what? He was an abuser. And the only reason he stopped is because you did something about it. That’s what we have in common. We do. But you did break my trust. Which, you know, may take a while to get that back. May not come back. Then why are you even wasting your time with me? Because I see great potential in you. [ Voice breaking ] Sonny’s a criminal. I didn’t raise you to be this naive. Sonny’s world isn’t that cut and dry, and you used to understand that. What’s changed? Is it dex? No. I accepted the life that sonny was a part of. It’s the life that I was raised in. I grew up in that house. I bought into the fantasy that sonny uses his power for good. And I always believed that he would do right by you. He hasn’t been that man in a minute. Why should I believe his intentions now? Do you think I look at him and I see my happy childhood memories anymore? I look at him, and I see all of the pain that he’s brought to our family and all of the times that we’ve been caught in his crossfire. Not true, josslyn — really? It’s not? Look, I wouldn’t be doing my duty as your lawyer if I didn’t advise you against turning yourself in to the sec. You don’t think that you can negotiate favorable terms? If the government can get a guilty plea without going through a lengthy and costly trial, maybe, but it’s definitely going to take some time. Okay. Okay. That’s all I need, alright? For all we know, it was some eagle scout accountant on drew’s payroll that tipped off the sec. And even if I proved my innocence, it doesn’t change the fact that drew and michael were so quick to crucify me. The level of distrust between us? I’m not sure we can bounce back from that. Certainly not enough for us to run elq together again. Or… you could be the bigger person. Find them the information that they need. That would turn down the heat a little, don’t you think? You told me the tip to the sec was anonymous. I know, I know. And if it had remained a financial matter, that would have been the case, but now that the fbi is using it to pressure carly to turn on sonny, that’s an entirely different situation. I never thought of that. Well, neither did I. Not that I think she would do it, but if carly does flip on sonny for any reason, it’s likely that both parties will try to find out who you are during discovery. You know what they say. All’s fair in love and war, especially when it comes to rico charges. Make arrangements for the next shipment. But I’m not going to let them unload one crate until we have a real conversation about what threat I am facing. Can you let them know that? Absolutely.

Look, anna and I, we go back a long way. We don’t always see eye to eye, but we understand each other. When anna’s hurt, she doesn’t want to burden the people that care about her. There’s usually one in every relationship. Yeah, I get that. I’m just not used to being in a relationship where we’re both that person. [ Chuckles ] But… I married a man who put family first. I’m just saying that maybe it’s possible that you’ve strayed away from that a little bit lately. And maybe it’s possible that it’s time to get back to that. I’ll think about that. I got to check in with the chef, make sure everything’s running smoothly. [ Both laughing ] So, what brings you in today? Um, I have a really sore throat, and my whole body aches, and so I just wanted to make sure that it’s not strep, both for my baby’s sake and so that I don’t spread it at work. Work, huh? Yeah. I, um, got a job at the invader. At least, I think I still have a job. Things didn’t exactly go very well my first day.

[ Chuckles ] And spreading an infection to the whole staff of the paper might be the last straw? Exactly. Okay, um… let’s take a look at you, then. Already working, huh?

[ Thermometer beeps ] Uh, yeah. I wish I didn’t have to. I hate the idea of leaving ace. Well, do you? I mean, do you have to work? I mean, ace is a cassadine. Well, I mean, ace is my son, and I want to make sure that spencer can’t take him away from me by claiming I’m unfit or lacking the resources to raise him. Well, that’s exactly my point. [ Grunts ] Last year, I found out that the woman who raised me my entire life, the woman I called “mom,” turned out she wasn’t my biological mother after all. Oh, honey, I’m so sorry. That must have come as quite a shock. It did. The woman who I thought was my mom, harmony, I think it’s safe to say that she was a very damaged human being, lost and looking for guidance. She was easily manipulated, easily fell prey to the wrong people. She wasn’t always the protector a good mom should be. I think she tried, but, still, somehow… she was your mom and you loved her. Yeah, I did, even though she let me down over and over again, and even after I found out she wasn’t really my mom. It’s crazy. I — I… my first instinct is to always defend her. Nikolas has been missing for months. Why the sudden push to try and find him now? I think something is wrong, and I think he may need my help. And on our best days, we can do spectacular things — get everyone fed, off to school, hold down a job, stop the pain from hurting. But we’re only human.

[ Sighs ] And on our best days, we just do what we can. But when we have those rough days, those days when that little voice is screaming in our heads to just run away, we have to forgive ourselves for not being perfect and just know that’s what we can do as moms. I don’t know this harmony, but I can tell that you still love her.

[ Chuckles ] Now, maybe she didn’t have great parents. Maybe when she got you, she thought she’d improve on what she was taught as a little girl. That’s the best we can do as moms — strive to do better for our little ones, not repeat our mother’s mistakes, because we don’t want to make those same mistakes again. So we just strive to do our best so that we can leave things better for the next generation of moms.

But we’re going to do a culture just to make sure, okay? A-and what about the muscle aches? You endured a horrible ordeal when ace was kidnapped, right? Well, so did you. Yeah. Yeah, I did. And I had trouble sleeping. I had trouble eating. Did the same thing happen for you? It was awful. I mean, my baby coming home was all I could think about. I think you’re under a lot of stress right now. I did have a panic attack at work yesterday. How are things going at home? I’d imagine living with spencer and laura is pretty tense, right? I mean, it’s not the best situation, no. Um… I actually tried to leave the other day. Have they threatened to cut you off if you decide to leave town? Uh, just the opposite. Spencer says he’ll follow me wherever I go.

They have to learn how to figure things out sooner or later. They can’t just keep coming to you or me to do it for them. Do you really want to leave spencer and esme to their own devices? Yeah. [ Both laugh ] When did I start liking white picket fences? Does that mean I’m a grown-up now? I think you become a grown-up when you became a mother. But you know, you do you. You get to do whatever you want and what you think is right.

[ Both laugh ]

[ Gasps ] Wow! I love it. So, the mechanic tells me, “a rabbit ate your engine.”

[ Both laugh ] Not possible. Actually, it happens a lot more than you think, especially in the snow. The engine is still warm, and the rabbit is looking for a source of heat, so it curls its way up by the engine and starts chewing on the hoses. Oh.

[ Chuckles ] When they popped that hood, rabbit fur everywhere.

[ Laughs ] So not a fan of bunnies, huh? Uh, no. Not anymore. Where are you from? How do you know I’m an out-of-towner? I’d remember if I’d seen you before. Alright, well, you got me. I’m new to port charles. This place is starting to look better by the minute. Wow! Nina reeves is your mother? I read crimson religiously. Oh, it’s a shame she didn’t get a chance to raise you. I mean, I’m not sure it’S… really a bad thing. Harmony had her faults, but nina…

[ Sighs ] …Is a train wreck. Oh, honey, I don’t believe anyone’s all bad — or all good, for that matter. We’re all flawed and imperfect. Some of us give in to our good instincts. Some of us give in to the bad ones. Life is complicated. But it sounds to me like the universe wants you in each other’s orbits. Nina’s aunt liesl saved your life with the bone marrow transplant. I think the universe wants you in each other’s lives. No, no. Nina’s made too many mistakes that every time I give her an inch, she takes a mile. Yet you forgave harmony for her mistakes.

[ Sighs ] Is nina really that unforgivable? Yes. Yes, that’s — that’s exactly what I’m saying. So, if you were to get a call saying that nina had died in an unexpected car accident, how would you feel?

[ Glasses clink ] I hope you don’t mind that I got your phone number from brook lynn, but I have a problem with something, and you were the perfect person to talk to about it. Oh, no, no, no. It’s not official city business. No, it’s personal. Uh, my son has been missing for a few months now, and I have reason to believe that he might be in a home in chechnya. And the thing is, my husband and I don’t speak russian, and we have never been to that part of the world, so we were sort of hoping that you might know someone who could act both as a translator and as a guide. So, would you happen to know anyone who would fit that bill? Uh, well, kevin and I would like to leave as soon as we can. In my opinion, you need to do what’s best for you and that baby. I agree, but laura does have a good point. I mean, I can’t take care of ace all by myself, and if I leave town, then I’ll have to get a full-time job. But maybe not. People need money to eat and to buy clothes and put a roof over their head. Yes, of course, but do you honestly think that spencer would let his baby brother go hungry? I don’t want to be dependent on anyone. I respect that, I really do. But maybe moving out of port charles with your baby would be better for you. Sounds to me like you’d be more comfortable without ace’s family watching your every move. The situation is just so untenable. You know, at some point, something’s gotta give. And thank you for talking this out. I know that you have enough on your plate, so I really appreciate it. Well, it is awkward being in my own house and staying in the guest room. Yeah, I — I bet it is. But I owe it to myself and to portia to hang in there, make it work. I’m proud of you. And that kiss, man, it just confused everything and it brought up feelings that were better off buried.

[ Sighs ] When harmony died and the truth came out about who she really was and all the bad things she’d done, I still miss her, and I never stopped loving her. And, yes, I wish she were still alive. [ Sighs ] …I think I would feel another loss, like I did with harmony. But with nina, it’s — it’s so much more complicated. Does it have to be? My relationship with my mother wasn’t perfect, but I would do anything to see her again.

[ Pager beeping ] Oh. Oh. I gotta go. I’ll see you later, sweetheart. Thank you, yuri. What? Did yuri say he can’t help us? Just the opposite. He’s between jobs. He said he’d love to help us. This is exactly what happened two years ago when sonny disappeared! Jason and I risked our lives to keep the organization together! And if we hadn’t done that, someone else would have taken over and they would have killed us. Look at me! Every single one of us! I brought one of the pills to britt, and she told me that it was an opioid analgesic, something that, when mixed with alcohol, could cause a person to lose consciousness. It sure did that to me. I know. I’m so sorry, trina. Yeah. So am I. Look. Okay. Listen to me. I mean, I’m so sorry that I didn’t tell you about this sooner, but things just kept happening. It was one thing on top of another on top of another. And I guess it just got buried. And I’m sorry. I know. It’s okay. It’s been a lot. But it sure comes back up, though. It was such a violation. And it started the whole revenge-porn case. At least I didn’t end up like oz haggerty in a coma. I wanted to be the one to save you. But I didn’t have any actual proof. Until now. Thank you. That’s got to be esme’s handwriting. It looks like it. Isn’t that just like esme — trying to slant things to make herself look like the victim when she’s the one who purposely drugged oz haggerty? You can never induce that girl to tell the truth. Total amnesia could. Right?

[ Chuckles ] This is amazing. This is amazing. A receipt proving that esme bought the drugs that she used to incapacitate two people. And a written confession! What else do we need? Do you think that’s charged enough? Only one way to find out. Jordan, you didn’t misread anything. My feelings for you are real, and me moving back in here doesn’t change that. And how real are your feelings for portia? I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have real feelings for portia, as well.

When you wanted to work on things, I walked away because I wasn’t ready to handle the pain at that time. And now I’m trying to learn from my mistake. It wouldn’t be fair to you and portia if I walked away from my marriage before I sorted out my feelings. And how do you plan on doing that? By not avoiding portia. That’s admirable and great news for portia, but where does that leave me? You’re right, sonny. Our families have had an ugly history. But we share a family member, and we both prioritize family. And, granted, the quartermaines don’t always show it, but when push comes to shove, we’re loyal and we pull together. And when I threatened drew, I was angry, but that’s where it ended. And carly — carly I consider family. Not just because she’s michael’s mother, but she’s olivia’s best friend and loved by my son, leo. I would never hurt her. Alright. Well, you know, let’s not pretend that you would never act in your own self-interest. Your family loyalty took a vacation when you threw in with valentin. And that’s the reason, olivia, that carly lost half of her hotel. And I regret that. Which is why I would never kick her while she’s down. Sonny, you and I go way back. Quite a welcome. Well, I’m excited to see you. I didn’t think you’d show up. Well, I can’t say no to you, but I’m not sure your plan’s gonna work. Spencer hates my guts, and I don’t see that changing. Doesn’t he have some crimes to commit? Kneecaps to break? Suckers to punch? Joss invited him. Uh-huh. And when is she gonna realize that he’s a dead-end loser and dump him? Dex is important to her, and we’re all spending time together, unless you want to lose josslyn as your friend. It wouldn’t be the first friend that I’ve lost to dex. Cameron got a soccer scholarship at stanford. Dex’s relationship with josslyn didn’t force him to leave. A source of mine at the bureau says that victor obviously stole a copy of anna’s personal file before going missing all those years ago, and he made arrangements to have it made public in the event of his untimely death. The paper claimed to have obtained classified documents from the wsb. Yeah. Well, it’s obvious that my father’s not done ruining people’s lives. Luckily, he won’t have any influence on the younger generation of cassadines. Anyway, I digress. You said that he left something else for me, aside from the finger. It’s not for you. This is for charlotte. I don’t need to read any more of that. It’s my life, after all. Your cover is blown. There is nothing in that article the bureau didn’t know about already. Don’t go any further. We’re doing this by the book. What are we doing? Bring him in. What’s happening? What the — what are you doing here, martin? Even though it’s meant for charlotte, I thought it was best to give it to you. The cassadine crest? Yeah. I hate that thing. I can’t say I blame you. I kept mine in a box for a lot of years, waiting until I came forward to claim what I thought was my rightful inheritance before I put it on my finger. My first instinct was to throw that thing into the harbor. I mean, it represents everything I loathe about the cassadines, everything that i don’t want my grandchild to be, but, I mean [Sighs] It belongs to charlotte. And you’re her father, so you get to decide. Well, I don’t know that throwing it in the harbor will make charlotte any less a cassadine. And my father’s gone, and with him, his influence and his expectations. So it’s my hope that charlotte can create a new legacy for her family. You know, maybe I could move things around at work and stay. No. Thank you, portia. But this conversation between curtis and me is long overdue. [ Sighs ] I thought I could outwit him, but I couldn’T. And so I ended up leaving here for a bit, and, uh… and then I came back, eventually. And I gave them full disclosure. I told them everything. And I was reinstated. And I have had a clean record ever since. The bureau has trusted me for decades. And none of that’s gonna make any difference to the general public. Anna, that article does a good job painting you as a total judas. Trusted agent, somebody with clearance, access to privileged information — somebody who turned around and betrayed her own agency. This is all ancient history. The only difference now is the media spotlight, and the fact that frisco has been replaced as director, yeah. And now the bureau wants to distance themselves from my actions. They’re charging me with treason to cover their own asses. Exactly. That is exactly what they’re doing. Which is why valentin was right to call me. It’s time for me to protect you. This isn’t cloak and dagger. It’s public. It’s federal. And that story is not going away.

Why, all of a sudden, is her dedication being called into question? It doesn’t matter that we appreciate agent devane’s work. Our hands are tied. Her entire dossier has been released, and the public knows that she’s never been held accountable for her crimes. Not until now. Don’t dunk me. Don’t splash me or immerse any part of my body. Fortunately, this one was communicating to us through an anonymous e-mail account, so… and we refused comment to anyone who called to follow up and, uh, legal watchdogged everything to ensure there was minimal damage to the invader. All in all, great way to spend an evening.

[ Sighs ] I appreciate that you came in to handle it. My pleasure. I must admit that I’m a little surprised to see you, in that you’ve been ghosting me. It’s very kind of you to come keep me company. [ Sighs ] When I was diagnosed with als, I-I — all I could think about was not wanting to be a burden to anyone. Even though you urged me to tell the truth, by telling you, I felt like I had dumped this massive burden on you. And then when I didn’t hear from you, I assumed I was right about that — that I scared you off. That is, until I got that last text message you sent. Gregory, the reason I didn’t contact you is because I was a-afraid that you would think I was disregarding your boundaries. And then I-I talked to my daughter. I didn’t tell her anything. No details. I — but she told me there’s a big difference between inserting yourself into someone’s life when you’re not wanted and — and just simply reaching out to let you know that I’m thinking about you. [ Laughs ] Thank god. So, uh — so what are the next steps? So, willow will remain in the hospital to give the donated bone marrow cells time to create new cells in her body. Now, that process is called engraftment, and it can take some time. How long? Every patient is unique. Sometimes as little as two weeks. On the outside, maybe six or more. Now, once engraftment has occurred, willow can go home, but we’ll still want to track her recovery in case complications arise. What kind of complications? Willow’s body is essentially rebuilding its immune system, so she’ll be highly susceptible to infection. We want to monitor that. Another possible major complication is graft-versus-host disease, which is when the patient’s body rejects the donated cells. Wow. That’s — that’s a lot to take in. Try not to worry. Willow is getting excellent care, and we’re optimistic that she’ll make a full recovery. Okay. How is willow? Receiving her bone marrow transplant thanks — thanks to you. I’m happy to hear that. I understand how you feel, laura. And even though things ended badly between us, I want nikolas back with his family. But you can’t go on some wild goose chase to chechnya. It’s dangerous.
