Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

John wondered what could have happened the night of the accident to prove that Brady was innocent. Brady felt that nothing would change the fact that he hit Sarah while he was drunk. He thought he was going to pay for what he did. EJ told someone on the phone that Brady would pay for what he did. Eric overheard him and called him out for what he did. EJ wasn’t surprised to see Eric was there for his brother who committed the same crime he did. He said that Brady paralyzed Sarah, but he killed Daniel. Holly asked Tate what Eric had to do with her father’s death. Tate thought she knew what happened. He told her that Eric was the one who killed her father. She didn’t want to believe it. He said he overheard his mother talking to Kimberly about it when he was a kid. Holly started crying. She got angry because she thought Nicole wasn’t trying to protect her. Nicole wanted to protect Eric. Maggie and Justin didn’t think Brady would hit Sarah and not check on her. He told her that Brady confessed without remembering what happened. She thought Brady might be innocent. Justin didn’t think he could be that gracious if he were in her position. She reminded him about what happened when she thought she killed Adrienne, but Orpheus framed her for murder. Justin wished Brady were being framed but there was no evidence to prove it. Maggie felt like the Brady she knew wouldn’t do that. Sarah had a blurry memory of the hit-and-run. She told Xander that she remembered seeing the driver, but it wasn’t Brady. Fiona got nervous. Sarah said there was a glare, so the image was blurry. She couldn’t make out who the person was. Xander pushed her to remember who did it, but she wanted him to let it go. She said they knew it was Brady who did it.

EJ taunted Eric about his crime. Eric told him that Nicole was speeding up the divorce. He said EJ should be receiving the decree soon. EJ walked off as John left the interrogation room. John hugged Eric and told him that Brady planned to plead guilty. He thought Eric might be the best person to talk sense into Brady. Eric visited with Brady. Brady appreciated him being there, but he didn’t want him to talk him out of pleading guilty. Eric assured him that he wouldn’t talk him out of pleading guilty. He said he understood how he was feeling. Eric wondered if he knew for a fact that he was the one who hit Sarah. Brady didn’t remember hitting her, but he remembered being drunk. He believed he did it. Eric admired him for taking responsibility. He had to take responsibility for what he did. Eric wanted to tell Holly what he did. Tate tried to plead Eric’s case to Holly, but she didn’t want to hear it. She felt like things are unforgivable like killing her father and leaving Sarah paralyzed. Holly wanted Tate to go away so she could be alone. He assured her that he’s there for her and walked away. John and Justin talked about Brady pleading guilty. Spotting EJ, Justin said it wasn’t Brady’s mind they needed to change. EJ approached Justin. Justin wanted him to drop the charges against Brady because of lack of evidence and witnesses. He thought it would save him time and embarrassment. Xander told Sarah that whatever she remembered could help with the case against Brady. Sarah couldn’t make out the driver’s face. Fiona sent Xander to get soup for Sarah. She was going to help Sarah get some rest. Xander told Maggie that Sarah was starting to remember the accident. Maggie agreed with Fiona that they shouldn’t rush Sarah. He realized that, but he wanted to make Brady pay. He was grateful to have Maggie and Fiona in their lives. Justin and EJ went to the interrogation room. EJ wondered why Brady was still there when he was free to go. Justin convinced him that there wasn’t enough evidence against him. EJ was confident that he will get the evidence and bring Brady back to the station. Sarah slept in her bedroom. Fiona stroked her hair. She leaned toward her with a pillow. Fiona wanted God to forgive her for what she was about to do. Holly read an article about what happened to her father. She couldn’t believe she was lied to. Eric walked up to her.

Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph

In the interrogation room, John asks Brady to not plead guilty until he knows the whole story. John adds that for all they know, there may be mitigating circumstances and a hell of a lot more to this story which Brady questions. John suggests maybe somebody else hit Sarah or his car malfunctioned. Brady reminds John that Kristen demolished the car so they’ll never really know. John says maybe something else was overlooked and offers to do some research but Brady says nothing is coming up, so he tells John to accept that he got drunk, hit Sarah and he’s going to pay for his crime.

EJ is on the phone at the police station, saying he wants everyone on this and all ducks in a row before the arraignment tomorrow. EJ declares that Brady Black must pay for what he has done. Eric then arrives and calls EJ a vindictive son of a bitch.

Tate tells Holly that she knows that Brady is not a bad person. Holly questions if a good person drives drunk, hits someone, and doesn’t even stop to check if they are dead or alive. Tate repeats that the situation isn’t black and white, arguing that Brady is an addict and has a disease. Holly complains that Brady should’ve dealt with it instead of making someone else suffer. Tate argues that Brady didn’t mean to which Holly complains further about. Tate repeats that Brady wasn’t thinking clearly, had a relapse, and is tortured with guilt. Tate doesn’t know why Holly doesn’t have some compassion for him. Holly reminds Tate that her father was killed by a drunk driver, who probably wasn’t in the right mind either. Tate acknowledges that making it harder for Holly to talk about but points out that was a terrible accident too and that she forgave Eric. Holly then questions what he means as Tate is shocked to realize she didn’t know. Holly asks what he’s talking about and what Eric has to do with her dad being killed by a drunk driver.

Justin supposes Brady was afraid to call Maggie because he didn’t want to be judged. Maggie argues that Brady knows she wouldn’t do that as sponsors don’t judge. Maggie talks about reassuring Brady that all he ever had to do was call her and she’d be there to get him back on track and prevent him from destroying himself or anyone else and especially from driving drunk. Maggie cries that’s why it’s so hard for her to believe that Brady actually did this. Justin still finds it hard to believe that Brady would drive drunk and not attend to Sarah after hitting her. Maggie says that’s exactly it and calls it so unlike Brady. Maggie knows Brady had a relapse and that’s very sad and disturbing, but the Brady that she knows would’ve got out of the car and raced over to help Sarah because he’s a good man. Justin agrees but notes that even though Brady doesn’t remember hitting Sarah, he confessed to the crime. Maggie questions Brady not remembering and why he’s confessing to something he has no memory of. Justin responds that all he knows is that Brady is determined to plead guilty. Maggie suggests maybe he didn’t do it as she can’t help but wish there was some way that Brady could turn out to be innocent in all of this.

Fiona still can’t believe this has happened to Sarah and so soon after she and Xander got married, especially on what was supposed to be one of the happiest nights of her life. Fiona thanks God that it wasn’t so much worse. Sarah then has a blurry memory of the accident. Xander asks her what’s wrong. Sarah responds that she remembers.

John reminds Brady that they are talking about the rest of his life and his kids’ lives. Brady repeats that he is thinking about his kids. John argues that Tate needs Brady, pointing out that his mother just got shipped off to prison and asks how he will handle seeing his father go too. Brady asks how Tate would handle him not facing his responsibilities. John argues that they need Brady in their lives. Brady argues that they’ll be fine and that Theresa will be out in 6 months while Rachel has Kristen. John says that’s his point since Theresa and Kristen are not stable. John repeats that Brady doesn’t know what happened that night. Brady says that he won’t change his mind on this. Brady declares that he put Sarah in a wheelchair so it was probably only a matter of time before he did this to someone else. Brady argues that there’s no other explanation for what happened that night.

Fiona gets worried and suggests Sarah is exhausted and should get some rest. Xander asks Sarah what else she remembers. Sarah responds that she remembers the accident, walking, hearing the sound of the car, turning around, and seeing the driver but she didn’t see Brady.

EJ asks if Eric shouldn’t be taking his wife and son on a trip to Paris. Eric corrects him that Nicole is soon to be his ex-wife and Jude is his son. EJ asks what Eric is doing back in Salem. Eric responds that he came to help his brother and it looks like he came just in time to stop EJ from railroading him. EJ argues that Brady punched his own one way ticket to prison by confessing to driving drunk and maiming poor Sarah. EJ brings up Eric and Sarah being an item at one point and asks where his compassion is for her. Eric says his heart breaks for Sarah and everyone who loves her but nothing’s going to stop him from making sure Brady gets a fair shake. EJ assures that he will and remarks that he shouldn’t be surprised that Eric is defending Brady going on a bender and running over an innocent person, considering he committed the exact same crime. EJ remarks that it appears vehicular homicide runs in their family, though Brady only crippled Sarah while Eric actually killed a man.

Holly demands an answer from Tate as to what Eric has to do with her dad being killed by a drunk driver. Tate apologizes as he thought she knew. Tate then tells her to forget he said anything but Holly says it’s too late for that as she can tell by his face that it’s way more than nothing. Holly reminds Tate that they don’t keep secrets from each other and says she needs to know. Tate then informs Holly that Eric was the drunk driver who killed her dad. Holly says that can’t be true and that he’s making this up. Tate asks why he would do that, knowing he would never lie to her especially about something this important. Holly questions how he found out. Tate reveals that he overheard his mom and grandma talking about it when he was a kid like it was a big family secret. Holly questions why he never told her. Tate says he thought that she knew. Holly sits down in shock, crying that Nicole told her that the drunk driver died in the accident so she can’t believe she lied to her about this. Tate is sure Nicole just wanted to protect her. Holly argues that Nicole wanted to move her to Paris to protect her from EJ and Tate without telling her that she’d be living with the man who killed her father. Holly complains that Nicole didn’t do this for her benefit, but for the same reason she does everything, to protect the love of her life, Eric.

Justin tells Maggie that she is so gracious and forgiving. Justin doesn’t think he could be either in her shoes. Maggie reminds him that he was in her shoes, just like she was in Brady’s shoes, when they believed she caused the accident that killed Adrienne along with Eric and Sarah’s baby, but then she was found innocent as Orpheus put her in the driver’s seat to frame her for the crash. Justin wishes there was a remote possibility that Brady was framed for this crime but says there’s just no evidence to support that. Maggie doesn’t understand how a good kind-hearted person like Brady could’ve hurt Sarah and just driven off. Maggie argues that the Brady she knows and loves couldn’t have done this.

Xander questions Sarah saying she didn’t see Brady and asks who she did see. Sarah responds that there was a glare so the image is blurry. Fiona questions her not seeing the driver’s face. Sarah confirms she didn’t, but in her mind’s eye there is a figure and she can’t make out who it is. Xander suggests it could become clearer if they keep talking about it and asks her if she remembers any more details. Sarah says she’s trying but Fiona thinks that’s enough for this evening. Fiona argues that Sarah needs her rest and she doesn’t see any point trying to remember when they all know Brady hit her that night.

EJ asks Eric if he struck a nerve by bringing up the fact that he mowed down Dr. Daniel Jonas. EJ asks if Eric thinks about Holly’s deceased father when he’s lying in bed next to her mother. Eric responds that he’s here to see Brady. EJ tells him that he’s in the interrogation room and suggests he can offer absolution. EJ warns that saying the rosary won’t cut it for the jury as Brady will be doing his pennance in prison for the rest of his life. Eric informs EJ that Nicole’s lawyer is fast tracking her divorce, so he should be receiving his final decree any day now as EJ walks away. John comes out of the interrogation room and calls Eric a sight for sore eyes as they hug. John asks if he’s jet lagged but Eric says he’s okay. John asks about Nicole and Jude. Eric says they are all good and just settling in to life in Paris. John says it looks that way from his pictures. Eric assumes he came from seeing Brady and asks how he’s doing. John says he’d be doing a lot better if he wasn’t hellbent on pleading guilty at his arraignment tomorrow, so right now he’s thanking God that Eric is here because he may be their last best chance to talk some sense in to him.

Brady thinks back to drinking with Fiona at the bar on the night of the accident. Eric then arrives to see him and they hug.

Tate tells Holly that she knows Eric is a really good person and he felt horrible about what he did and was tormented. Holly mocks that Eric found a way to get over killing her dad and is ready to move on with Nicole and their baby. Tate argues that she knows that’s not how Eric is. Holly stops him and says she doesn’t need him to defend Eric like he did Brady as some things like this are indefensible.

Justin goes to the police station and asks John if he talked to Brady. John says he did but it was unfortunately pointless since Brady doesn’t want to take his advice and wants to plead guilty, so he’s hoping Eric can get through to him. Justin is surprised to learn Eric is there. John informs him that he just flew in from Paris this morning. Justin is not surprised that he would show up for his brother. John says Eric is in there now, so he hopes he has better luck at changing Brady’s mind than he did. Justin responds that maybe the mind they need to change isn’t Brady’s…

Brady questions what Eric is doing here. Eric asks where else he would be when his brother is going through this. Brady asks if Nicole and Jude are with him. Eric says they are still in Paris as he wanted all his focus on helping him. Brady appreciates him being there but says he’s not going to convince him not to plead guilty. Eric says he’s not going to do that.

Xander tells Fiona that he’s aware that Brady confessed but a positive ID from Sarah would really strengthen the case against him and prevent him from getting off on a legal technicality. Xander asks Sarah if anything else is coming back to her. Sarah says she’s trying but can’t remember. Fiona says no one blames her and suggests Xander go downstairs to get some soup while she will help Sarah get some much needed rest. Xander asks if Sarah thinks that’s best. Sarah admits soup sounds good so Xander agrees to go get her some and exits the room. Fiona tells Sarah they are alone at last.

Brady questions Eric not being there to talk him out of pleading guilty. Eric says if anyone understands he needs to atone for his sins, it’s him. Eric brings up that Holly lost her father and Maggie lost her son all because he drove drunk. Brady says he almost did the same to Sarah. Eric asks if he’s sure he was driving the car that hit Sarah. Brady admits he doesn’t remember hitting her but he remembers being in a drunken stupor so he had to have done it. Eric admires him taking responsibility and says he’ll be here for him all the way. Brady appreciates that. Eric adds that he needs to finally take responsibility for the tragic mistake that he made. Brady doesn’t understand. Eric declares that he needs to find Holly to finally tell her the truth that he caused her father’s death.

Tate tells Holly that he knows this is a lot. Holly asks him to just go because she needs to be alone. Tate doesn’t think that’s a good idea but Holly insists. Tate agrees to go but says he’s there if she needs him as he walks away. Holly breaks down crying in the park.

John tells Justin that is why they pay him the big bucks. Justin hopes he can get through to him. John says he has faith in him so he will leave him to it. John exits as EJ comes over to Justin and says he’s throwing the book at Brady. Justin tells him to go ahead but he will have him laughed out of court because he has no witnesses or evidence. EJ argues that he has a confession. Justin remarks that anyone can walk in and confess to a crime but without proof, there’s reasonable doubt which leads to an acquittal. Justin tells EJ to save himself the embarrassment and drop the charges against Brady right now.

Xander goes to the living room and tells Maggie that Sarah got hungry for soup. Xander adds that there’s good important news as Sarah had a memory from the accident. Maggie asks if she was able to tell who was driving the car. Xander says not yet but talking about it was tiring her out. Maggie offers to go up and sit with her but Xander says there’s no need. Xander says that he will bring up the soup and then is sure she will get some rest, meanwhile nurse Fiona is watching over her.

Fiona encourages Sarah to forget about her troubles and get some sleep, promising it will all seem brighter.

Holly looks up the news article on her phone, confirming that Eric was charged with killing Daniel as she is shocked to see that it is true.

Tate sits at home, looking at the article about Brady’s arrest on his phone. John comes home and tells him that he just came from seeing Brady. Tate asks how he’s doing. John responds that he’s determined to take responsibility for Sarah’s hit and run. Tate asks if John thinks there’s any possibility that Brady won’t go down for this. John informs him that Justin is working on that now, but it will come down to one volatile player.

EJ questions Justin’s sobriety if he thinks he would even consider releasing Brady when they both know he’s guilty as sin. Justin asks how EJ intends to prove that since he can’t place him or his vehicle at the scene and Brady has no memory of it nor can Sarah identify who hit her and he can’t produce the car. EJ argues that the car was allegedly stolen but they both know Brady likely made it disappear. EJ thinks he might add destruction of evidence to the list of charges. Justin argues that he can’t prove any of it, so his case is built like a sand castle. Justin asks if EJ really wants to risk his shaky legal reputation by bringing it to a grand jury.

Maggie knows Xander is anxious to have Brady convicted but they don’t want to pressure Sarah into remembering anything too fast. Xander admits he is anxious to see Brady pay for what he did to Sarah but he doesn’t want to pressure her on something so traumatic. Maggie encourages Xander to have faith that Sarah will remember eventually. Xander tells Maggie that having her and Fiona has been so important to he and Sarah as he doesn’t know what they would’ve done without them. Maggie says they won’t have to worry about that as they both love them very much and want what’s best for them, so they’re not going anywhere.

Fiona watches over Sarah as she falls asleep.

Justin joins Brady in the interrogation room. Brady tells Justin that if he’s here to convince him not to plead guilty, he can forget it because John already tried and sent Eric in as a backup and that didn’t work either. Justin announces to Brady that he’s not here to talk about the arraignment because there’s not going to be one. EJ walks in and questions what Brady is still doing there when he said he’s free to go. Brady questions what’s going on as EJ tells Justin to get Brady out before he changes his mind. Brady refuses to go anywhere until he understands what’s happening. Justin explains that he just convinced EJ that it was foolish to present a case against Brady when all he has is circumstantial evidence. Brady asks if Sarah and her family don’t deserve justice. EJ insists that they will get it as soon as he gets the evidence to prove Brady hit Sarah, then he will haul his ass back in. Justin wishes him luck with that. EJ warns that this is not over by a long shot. Justin tells Brady that they will get him home to his family.

Tate questions John about Brady’s fate being left in the hands of the one person who hates him even more than Xander does. John encourages Tate to keep the faith. John asks Tate if anything else has him down and says he can always tell by looking at his face, so if he wants to talk, he’s here. Tate explains that he’s really mad at himself because he told Holly something that he shouldn’t have and now she’s really angry and badly hurt.

Holly cries that she can’t believe they kept it from her for all these years that Eric killed her dad. Eric then arrives in the park to see her.

Xander tells Maggie that when Sarah first told him that his mom might be coming, he was livid but he understood why Sarah wanted to persuade Fiona to come to their wedding. Xander talks about the resentment he had for Fiona being absent for so much of his life, but he didn’t understand the struggles she was overcoming and now she’s here and he can see the good in her. Xander admits it warms his heart. Maggie says that Fiona showed how much she loves him by being here with all of them through this difficult time. Maggie calls Fiona a godsend which Xander agrees with.

Fiona sings a lullaby while watching Sarah sleep. Fiona then grabs a pillow and says for God to forgive her for what she’s about to do as she raises the pillow over Sarah.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[sirens blaring]

All I’m saying is, don’t plead guilty until we know the whole story. Because, son, it’s possible there are mitigating circumstances here. I mean, for all we know, there’s a hell of a lot more to this story.

Like what?

Like– like maybe someone else hit Sarah. Maybe something with your car malfunctioned.

Well, Kristen demolished the car, Dad, so we’ll– we’ll never really know anything about that.

Still, maybe there’s something else that they overlooked here, so let me do a little bit of research–

Dad, I appreciate it. I really do. But nothing’s gonna pop up to make me less culpable in this thing, all right? You– you need to come to terms with the fact that your son was drunk and got behind the wheel of a car and hit Sarah, and I am gonna pay for my crime.

[soft dramatic music]

No, I want the entire team on this. I don’t care if you and all the other ADAs have to work through the night. I want all our ducks in a row before that arraignment tomorrow morning. No surprises, you understand? Brady Black must pay for what he’s done.

You vindictive son of a bitch.

Holly, you know my dad. You know he’s not a bad person.

No? Does a good person drive drunk and run someone over, and not even stop to check to see if they’re dead or alive?

Yeah, like I said, the situation isn’t black and white. Yes, he did a terrible thing, but my dad’s an addict. He’s got a disease.

Then it was his job to deal with his addiction on his own, not make somebody else suffer for it.

Oh, my God, he didn’t mean to make anyone suffer, Holly.

Oh, he didn’t mean to. I bet he didn’t mean to drive drunk. Did he not mean to put his foot on the gas? For God’s sake, Tate, did your dad never hear or read all those countless anti-drunk driving PSAs?

Yes. Yes, he’s heard them. Who hasn’t heard them? Come on. Like I said, he wasn’t thinking clearly. He’s an alcoholic who had a relapse, OK? And he’s tortured with guilt over what he’s done, so I don’t know why you don’t at least have some compassion for him.

Yeah, well, I don’t. Because as you seem to have forgotten, my own father was killed by a drunk driver, who probably just wasn’t in their right mind either.

Um, yeah. I– I haven’t forgotten that. You’re absolutely right. And I know that that makes this even harder for you to talk about. But Holly, look, that was a terrible accident, too. It was. I mean, look, you forgave Eric, right?

Forgave Eric? What do you mean?

Tate, what are you talking about? What does Eric have to do with my dad being killed by a drunk driver?

[tense music]

I suppose Brady was afraid to call you because he didn’t want to be judged.

He knows I’d never do that. Sponsors don’t judge.

[soft dramatic music] They just support you and they guide you.

You know, I had reassured Brady over and over that whatever his condition was, however he was feeling, all he had to do was pick up the phone and call me. I trusted that he understood that, that if he was impaired, that I’d be there. I’d pick him up and get him back on track, and I’d prevent him from destroying himself or anyone else and especially from getting behind the wheel when he had been drinking.

Which is why I– I don’t know. It’s just so hard for me to believe that he actually did this.

I’m with you, Maggie. I still find it hard to believe that Brady would not only drive drunk, but that he would be so heartless as to not attend to Sarah after he hit her.

Right. That– that’s– that’s exactly it. And it’s so unlike him. I– I know. I know he’s had a relapse. And that’s very sad, and it’s– it’s disturbing. But– but the Brady that I know, that Brady would have gotten out of that car and raced right over to help Sarah. He’s a good man, Justin.

I agree. But Maggie, even though he doesn’t remember doing it, hitting her, he confessed to the crime.

Wait. He doesn’t remember hitting Sarah?

No. Or even getting behind the wheel.

Well, then why? Why is he confessing to something that he has no memory of?

I don’t know. I just know that he is determined to plead guilty.

Maybe he didn’t do it. Justin, I can’t help but wish that there was some way that Brady could turn out to be innocent in all of this.

I still can’t believe that this happened to you, and especially so soon after you and Xander got married, on a night that’s meant to be one of the happiest nights of your life.

[sighs] I just thank God that it wasn’t so much worse.

[tense music]

[screams echoing]

Sarah, what is it?

Sarah, darling, what’s wrong?

I remember. Oh, my God, I remember.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

You know, this is the rest of your life that we’re talking about. Not just– not just your life but your kids’ lives.

I am thinking about my kids, Dad. We’ve already talked about that.

I think it’s worth talking about a little bit more. I mean, Tate needs you, Brady. His mother just got shipped off to Statesville. How you think he’s gonna handle seeing his father follow her there?

[soft dramatic music]

Dad, I don’t know. How is he gonna handle having a father that doesn’t, you know, own up to his responsibilities? You know, his– a tragic mistake.

They need you in their lives! They don’t need you to be some damn martyr.

No, they’re gonna– they’re– my kids will be fine. They’ll be fine because they have a long list of people that support them and love them. Theresa will be out in six months, and Rachel, Rachel has Kristen.

[chuckles] Well, you just made my point for me. Come on, Brady. You know damn well Theresa and Kristen are not stable, and that’s putting it mildly. But you know the bottom line here? You don’t know for sure what happened that night.

Dad, Dad, you’re not gonna change my mind about this. I put Sarah in a wheelchair, maybe for the rest of her life. It was probably only a matter of time before I hurt somebody else as well.

You don’t know that.

Yeah, I do. I do. I do know that. I did this to Sarah. There’s no other explanation for what happened that night.

Sarah is obviously very upset. We should let her rest.

Please, please. Darling, what else do you remember?

Um, I–

[tense music] I remember the accident. I remember walking.

Go on.

And then I remember hearing the sound of the car and– and turning around, and seeing the driver.

You saw Brady behind the wheel?

No. I didn’t see Brady.

Shouldn’t you be taking my wife and son on a pauper’s trip to Paris?

Correction, Nicole’s your soon-to-be ex-wife, and Jude is my son.

I’ll rephrase the question. What are you doing back in Salem, Eric?

Came here to help my brother. Looks like I got back just in time to stop you from railroading him.

Railroading him? Brady punched his own one-way ticket to Statesville. The man confessed to driving drunk and maiming poor Sarah Kiriakis. And– and weren’t you and the good doctor an item at one point? Where is your compassion for the victim and the victim’s family?

My heart breaks for Sarah and everyone who loves her. Nothing’s gonna stop me from making sure that Brady gets a fair shake.

Oh, he will get his due, all right. And I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at you crossing an ocean to defend your brother for going on a bender and running over an innocent person, considering you committed the exact same crime. It appears that vehicular homicide runs in your family. Although Brady should take heart. After all, he only crippled Sarah, whereas you actually killed a man.

Answer me, Tate. What does Eric have to do with my dad being killed by a drunk driver?

I’m– I’m sorry. I– I thought you knew.

Knew what?

Nothing. Just forget I said anything.

No. It’s way too late for that. I can tell by the look on your face it’s a hell of a lot more than nothing. Hey, look at me. Tell me whatever it is you’re keeping from me right now. I thought we didn’t keep secrets from each other, right?

No, we don’t.

Tate, please. I need to know.

OK. I’ll tell you.

It was Eric. He was the drunk driver who killed your dad.

[somber music]

No, that– that can’t be true. You’re making this up.

Holly, why would I do that? I mean, you know that I would never lie to you about anything, especially something this important.

How did you find out?

I overheard my mom and Grandma Kim talking about it when I was a kid. It was like this big family secret.

Tate, why didn’t you ever tell me before?

Like I said, I– I thought that you knew. I mean, you never talk about how you lost your dad. You only talk about how much you miss him and how much you wish he was here. Never about the accident.

Oh, my God. My mom told me that the drunk driver who killed my dad died that same day. I can’t believe she lied to me about this.

Hey, I’m sure your mom was just trying to protect you.

Yeah, right. Just like how she wanted to move me to Paris to protect me from EJ and from you? She didn’t think to mention I’d be living under the same roof as the man who killed my father? No. Again, no. She didn’t do this to cover it up for my benefit. She did this for the same reason she does everything else. She did this to protect the love of her life, her beloved Saint Eric.

You are so gracious, Maggie, and forgiving. I don’t think I could be either if I were in your shoes.

[soft dramatic music]

But you were in my shoes, just– just like I’m in Brady’s shoes. Remember when we believed that I had caused that accident that killed your wonderful Adrienne?

And Eric and Sarah’s precious baby. Remember?

But then I was found innocent. That that– that that bastard Orpheus, he– he put me in the driver’s seat, and he framed me for the crash.

I remember it well, of course. But Maggie, I wish there was even a remote possibility that Brady was framed for this crime, but there’s just no evidence to support that.

I know that. It’s just, I don’t understand how a good and a kind-hearted person like Brady could have hurt Sarah and just driven off.

No. No, no. See, the Brady that I know and love, he couldn’t have done this.

You didn’t see Brady? Who did you see?

There was a glare.

[tense music] The image is blurry.

So you didn’t see the driver’s face?

No. No, in my– in my mind’s eye, there is a figure. I just– I can’t make out who it is.

Well, maybe, uh, it’ll become clearer if we keep talking about it. Just– can you remember any details at all about the accident?

I’m trying.

I think that’s enough for this evening, Xander.

Mum, it’s–

Your wife needs her rest. And I see no point in tormenting her to remember a face when we all know that Brady Black was the one that hit her on that awful night.

Well, what’s wrong, Eric? Did I strike a nerve by bringing up the fact that you mowed down Dr. Daniel Jonas in his prime? Tell me, do you think about poor Holly’s deceased father when you’re lying in bed next to her mother?

Hmm?

I’m here to see Brady.

And see him you shall. He’s right there in interrogation. And perhaps you can offer absolution. But him, you know, saying a few rosaries isn’t going to cut it for the district attorney’s office. No, no, no. Brady is going to be doing his penance in a cell in Statesville for the rest of his life.

Hey. Just so you know, Nicole’s lawyer, she’s fast-tracking her divorce. You should be receiving your final decree any day now.

[soft dramatic music]

Eric Brady is a sight for sore eyes.

John! John.

[laughs] Your mom told me that you were home.

Yeah.

All the way from Paris.

Yeah, just got in earlier today.

Got to be jet-lagged, huh?

No, it’s OK. I just slept on the plane.

Yeah? Good, good. So how’s Nicole, Jude?

Everyone’s well. You know, just kind of settling into the life in Paris.

Yeah, it looks that way, depending upon the pictures you send with all their smiling faces.

Yeah, we’re really grateful, you know, to finally, you know, all be together.

Yeah, yeah.

Yeah. I assume you came from seeing Brady?

Yeah, I did, yeah.

How’s he doing?

Well, he would be doing a hell of a lot better if he wasn’t hellbent on pleading guilty at his arraignment tomorrow. So right now, I’m thanking God that you’re here because you may be our last best chance to try to talk some sense into him.

You know what I’m thinking?

Mm-mm. What are you thinking in there?

[laughs] We should take this back to my place.

Mm. Yeah, maybe. No, I’d like to. I gotta– I gotta go home.

Why?

Because my– my family, they need me.

[scoffs] OK, Mr. Family Man. One more for the road, then?

You have another visitor.

I’m really not interested in seeing anyone else today.

Not even your brother?

[gentle music]

Hey, man.

Holly, you know my Uncle Eric is a really good person.

[soft dramatic music] You know, I heard he felt horrible for what he did, that he was tormented.

Was tormented? Past tense? Ha! Gee, I’m so glad he found a way to get over the fact that he killed my dad, and now he’s ready to move on with my mother and their precious new baby.

Holly, you know my Uncle Eric as well as I do. You know that’s not how he is.

Tate, just stop, OK? I don’t need you to– I don’t need to hear you defend Eric the same way you just defended your dad a minute ago, because you know what? Some things are indefensible. Like your uncle killing my dad and Brady running Sarah over and leaving her crippled for life.

John, you talked to Brady?

Yeah. Yeah, I did. It was, uh, pointless, unfortunately. He doesn’t want to take my advice on just letting this process play out. He wants to plead guilty and get it over with. So I’m hoping that he’ll listen to Eric.

Eric is here?

Yeah. He just flew in from Paris this morning.

Not surprising that he’d show up for his brother. So he’s in there now?

Yeah. I just hope he has better luck changing Brady’s mind than I did.

Maybe the mind we need to change isn’t Brady’s.

What are you doing here?

Where else would I be with my brother going through this?

Are Jude and Nicole with you?

No, no, no. They’re still in Paris. I just wanted to make sure I had all my focus on helping you.

Look, man, I appreciate you being here. I do, but if you’re here to try to convince me to plead not guilty, Eric–

No worries. Not gonna do that. No way.

Mum, I’m aware that Brady confessed to the hit and run. It’s just that a positive ID from Sarah would really strengthen the case against him and prevent him from getting off on some legal technicality. Darling, is anything else coming back to you?

I am trying to remember the driver’s face, but I just– I can’t. I’m sorry.

Oh, darling, you have nothing to be sorry about. You are the victim here, and we must all remember that. Darling, why don’t you run downstairs and get some of that delicious leek and potato soup that Chef made last night? I’m sure there’s some left over. And in the meantime, I will help your lovely wife go down for some much-needed rest.

[tense music]

If you think that’s best.

Soup sounds good.

I’ll go get you some, then.

[door clicks]

Now, then. Alone at last.

[sighs]

So you’re not here to talk me out of pleading guilty?

[soft dramatic music]

No, I’m not. I mean, if anyone understands that you need to atone for your sins, it’s me.

[exhales] Yeah, of course you do.

Holly lost her father. Maggie lost her son, all because I made the tragic mistake of driving drunk.

Yeah. And I, uh, obviously almost made the same mistake. I mean, I could have killed Sarah.

Listen, Brady, are you sure you were the one who was driving the car that hit Sarah?

Look, I’m sure my father and Marlena told you I don’t remember hitting her, but I remember being in a drunken stupor, Eric, OK? So I had to have done it. I know I did it.

And I admire you for taking responsibility for your actions. I’ll be here for you all the way.

I appreciate that.

Yeah, because I need to finally take responsibility for the actions myself, for the tragic mistake that I made.

I– I don’t understand.

I need to find Holly. It’s finally time that I tell her the truth, that I was the one that caused her father’s death.

I know that this is a lot.

Tate, please, just go. I need to be alone right now.

I don’t think that’s a good idea.

I know what I need, OK?

Holly, can you just let me stay?

Tate, just leave! Just go.

OK, I will go. Hey, but I just want you to know that I’m here for you if you need me, always.

[sobs]

What the–

[sobbing] No.

[breathing heavily]

And that is why they pay you the big bucks, my friend.

Let’s just hope I can get through to him.

I have faith in you. I’ll leave you to it.

Ah, Justin. Before you waste your breath begging for a reduced sentence for your client, let me save you the trouble. I’m throwing the book at Brady.

Fine, EJ. You go ahead and do that.

Mm-hmm.

And I’ll see to it that you are laughed right out of court, given that you have no witnesses and no evidence.

But I do have a confession from your client, who was obviously blind drunk when he got behind the wheel of his car and mowed down an innocent person and drove off.

Well, anyone could walk in here and confess to a crime, but without any proof, you have reasonable doubt, which leads to an acquittal. So save yourself and your office all the time and embarrassment, EJ, and drop the charges against Brady right now.

– Maggie.

Oh, hi, Xander. Hi. How are you? Is Sarah resting?

No, she’s, uh, hungry, actually. So I just talked to the– the cook to heat up some of that soup.

Oh, the potato leek?

Mm, from yesterday. There’s plenty left over. Maggie, there’s, uh, good news. Well, important news, anyway.

Tell me.

Sarah had a memory from the accident.

Really? Was she able to tell you who was driving the car?

No, she wasn’t, unfortunately. Not yet. I wanted to press more, but just talking about it was really tiring her out, so…

It’s very stressful for her, I’m sure. Look, I’ll go up and sit with her.

There’s no need, really. She’s fine. And like I say, I’ll take the soup up when it’s ready, and then she’ll get some rest, I’m sure. And in the meantime, Nurse Fiona is watching over her. – There, there, dear. Now, you just forget about all of your troubles.

It’s time for you to sleep now. Then it will all seem brighter. I promise.

[dramatic music]

[somber music]

Oh, my God, it’s true.

[door clicks]

Oh, hey, kiddo.

Grandpa, hey.

Just came from seeing your old man.

How is he doing?

He’s hard on himself. No surprise there. Bound and determined to take responsibility for Sarah’s hit and run.

Right. I know. Hey, Grandpa, do you think there’s any possibility that he could not go down for this?

Well, actually, Justin’s working on that right now. However, it’s all gonna come down to one very volatile player.

Perhaps your sobriety is in question too, Justin, to think I would even consider releasing Brady when we both know he’s guilty as sin.

And how exactly do you intend to prove that? You can’t place him or his vehicle at the scene. And Brady has no actual memory of driving the car or hitting the victim, nor can the victim identify who hit her. And then there, of course, is the fact that you can’t produce the car in question.

Because the car was allegedly stolen, when we both know your client most likely made it poof, disappear. I think I might add destruction of evidence to the list of charges.

None of which you can prove. So face it, EJ. Your case is built on a castle of sand. And do you really want to risk your somewhat shaky legal reputation by bringing it to a grand jury?

[soft dramatic music]

Xander, I know you’re anxious to have Brady convicted, but I agree with Fiona on this. The last thing we want to do is to cause more stress for Sarah. I mean, to push her into– to remembering something too fast.

OK. I– I agree. You and my mum are right. It’s just, as you say, I am very anxious to see Brady pay for what he did to Sarah. But I don’t want to pressure her, especially about something so traumatic.

Right. So have faith that this memory of whoever was driving the car, that she did indeed see the person clearly, and that she will remember it eventually.

I’m sure she will. And Maggie, I just really want to say that having you here, having my mum here, it’s been so important to both Sarah and me. I– I just don’t know what we’d have done without the both of you.

Well, you and Sarah don’t have to worry about that. Because Fiona and I both love you very much, and we only want what’s best for you. We’re not going anywhere.

[chuckles]

* Hush, little baby, don’t say a word * * Mama’s gonna buy you a mockingbird *

Hey, Brady.

Justin, if you’re here to try to convince me to plead not guilty tomorrow at the arraignment, forget about it, all right? My dad already tried, and he sent Eric in as a backup. That didn’t work out too well either, OK?

I’m not here to talk about the arraignment because there isn’t gonna be one.

[door clicks]

What is he still doing here? I told you he was free to go.

What’s going on?

Get him out of here, Justin, before I change my mind.

Hold on. I’m not going anywhere until you– you tell me what’s happening.

Well, what is happening is I just convinced our esteemed district attorney that it was foolish to present a case against you when all he has is circumstantial evidence coupled with your rather tenuous recollection of the events in question.

Mm-hmm. OK, OK. And what about Sarah and her family? Don’t they deserve justice?

They will get it. The second the Salem Police Department finds the evidence I need to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that you struck Sarah while driving drunk, I’m hauling your ass back in here.

Good luck with that.

This isn’t over, gentlemen. Not by a long shot.

Let’s get you home to your family.

[sighs]

So my father’s fate rests in the hands of the one man in this town that hates him even more than Xander does?

Keep the faith, partner. Got to keep the faith.

Yeah, I’ll try.

So anything else got you down?

Why do you ask?

[chuckles] Remember when you were a squirt, and we used to play penny poker?

Yeah. And I always beat you.

[chuckles] I let you win. Because I could always tell the hand that you were holding just by looking at your face.

And even today, that expression gives you away, Tate. So if you want to talk, I’m right here.

[sighs] Yeah. I’m just– I’m really mad at myself, Grandpa.

Yeah? Why is that?

Because I’m an idiot. I– I don’t know. I told Holly something that I shouldn’t have, and now she’s really angry, and she’s really badly hurt.

I can’t believe they kept this from me all these years, that– that it was Eric, that he was the one who killed my dad.

Holly.

[tense music]

You know, when Sarah first told me that my mum might be coming, uh–

You were livid.

Well, not at Sarah, obviously. I mean, I understood why she wanted to find my mum and persuade her to come to our wedding, but as you know, I just had so much resentment towards her for being absent for so much of my life. I didn’t understand that she was– that she had so much to overcome, that she was struggling. And now she’s here, and I can just see the good in her. And Maggie, not to sound too corny, but it warms my heart.

Oh, it’s not corny. And of course, it warms your heart. She’s your mother. And she’s shown you how much she loves you by being here with all of us at this difficult time. Your mom, she’s a godsend.

Yeah, she really is.

Yeah.

A godsend.

[chuckles]

* And if that mockingbird don’t sing * * Mama’s gonna buy you a diamond ring *

* And if that diamond ring turns brass *

* Mama’s gonna buy you a looking glass *

[ominous music]

Oh, God forgive me for what I’m about to do.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Steve and Kayla were at Stephanie’s place because there was a problem with her plumbing. While they were talking, they got on the subject of Jack, Jennifer, and Abby. Kayla said she spoke to Jennifer and she’s devastated over not believing that Abby is her daughter. She thought Jennifer was afraid of losing her daughter again so she won’t believe it. Steve said DNA test results have been altered before. Kayla said she did the test herself and the only person involved was Mark and she trusted him. Steve wondered if Abby will get her memory back, Kayla said there was a possibility, but she recommended sessions with Marlena. Steve reminded her that he had amnesia and was afraid to remember who he was. He said he was a fool then. Chad ran into Leo at the Town Square. Leo said he thought Chad would be happy now that Abby is back. Chad said Abby didn’t remember anything, but Stephanie was going to see her to see if she remembered anything. He said he wanted to get revenge on Clyde and everyone who kept Abby from him. Leo asked if there were any leads, but Chad said there weren’t. Changing the subject, Leo brought up Everett’s service and how Stephanie was planning it. Chad said she didn’t tell him anything about it. Leo said she told him when he brought her the press release for Body and Soul. When Chad said that went through him, Leo told him about being the new head writer for Body and Soul. Chad congratulated him and asked if he was going to continue being Lady Whistleblower. Leo said he thought he could do both, but he wouldn’t be able to do it. Chad said he was sorry to see him go. Leo let him know that a story on the show may sound like his life so he didn’t want him to be offended. Chad said he should have asked him first, but Leo said amnesia stories were done all the time. When Chad said a DNA test was done, Leo said tests can be faked on soap operas. Chad said his life wasn’t a soap opera.

Abby called Mark and told that since she convinced Chad to move back home with the kids, she could breathe again. She said they had to figure out the next step in their plan. While she was on the phone, Stephanie showed up. Abby told Mark she would talk to him later. After Abby introduced herself to Stephanie, Stephanie told her who she was and how she was related to her. Stephanie brought up how Abby was talking about the next step in her plan. Abby lied about talking to her doctor. When Stephanie realized she was talking about Kayla, she told Abby she was her mother. Abby brought up how Stephanie lived with her husband after she died. Stephanie apologized and said Chad had trouble moving on after her death. Abby said she didn’t have to explain since she was supposed to be dead. Stephanie said Chad never got over her and that was why they didn’t work. She said Chad asked her to come see her to see if it would spark a memory. They talked about the past. Gabi told EJ that she didn’t know why he was nervous when he wanted to get revenge on Stefan. EJ told her she didn’t have to decide right away and had time to think about it before the truth came out. Gabi wondered why he was being nice. He said he had his own heart broken and would do anything to take the pain away. Stefan showed up and found them together. When Gabi tried to explain what was going on, Stefan said he knew what was going on. Stefan said EJ was taking advantage of Gabi and wanted to use her to get revenge on him. EJ said it was more like the other way around. Stefan said Abby convinced him to talk to Gabi and not give up. He asked if they could go somewhere and talk. Gabi agreed to talk to him. When EJ tried to put Gabi’s clothes under a rug, Stefan busted him. Stefan asked if the clothes were Gabi’s. He asked if she slept with EJ and she said she did. Stefan yelled at EJ and hit him. When EJ was about to hit him back, Gabi got in between them. Stefan couldn’t believe she was defending EJ. She said she seduced EJ. When Stefan asked why, she said she hated him and wanted to pay him back for sleeping with Ava. Stefan was upset that she would do this just to hurt him and their relationship. He said she ruined things and hoped she was happy. Stefan said he made a drunken mistake, but she did her act on purpose. Gabi admitted that she did it on purpose. He said he was killing himself trying to make it up to her. Her actions couldn’t be taken back. Gabi asked if that meant he was giving up on them. He said he was. She said when she woke up she might have had second thoughts about her plan and considered lying to him the way he did about Ava, but that would have mad her just as guilty as he was. When EJ came back, she told Stefan that his brother was better in bed than he was. Stefan said they deserved each other and walked out. Abby met with Mark at the park. She told him it was tired of being around the fake family. He told her her real family was there for her. She called him bro and he called him sis.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Fiona wanted to get a drink but settled for water. She saw Xander tapping the phone. Justin walked in the room, and he wanted him to stop being Brady’s lawyer. Fiona got uncomfortable as she listened to Xander talk about what Brady did to Sarah. She blurted out that it was an accident. John told Marlena that Belle offered to represent Brady. Paul wanted to come back to help too. It’s hard for John to make the calls about Brady. Marlena assured him that they would get through it together. John appreciated her support. He left to visit Brady. Tate visited Brady in the interrogation room. Brady thought he was ashamed of him, but he said he wasn’t. He wanted to know what happened to make him start drinking again. Brady didn’t want to blame Theresa, but he thought they were going to get back together. It was hard to watch her marry Alex. He went to the pub, and it went downhill from there. Brady was ashamed of himself. He understood if Tate didn’t want anything to do with him. Tate appreciated the support he gave him, so he wasn’t going to turn his back on his father. He thought Sarah would forgive Brady in time. Everyone would understand that he had a disease and forgive him the way he did. A guard told Tate that his time was up. Fiona defended Brady being an alcoholic. Justin said that Brady felt remorse for what he did and he’s a member of the family. He reminded Xander that Brady didn’t write him off after what he did to his wife. Xander told him that he didn’t represent him when he needed legal services. Justin said he was lucky he didn’t need a lawyer after choking Brady. Xander planned to break his neck. Justin walked out of the room. Fiona assured Xander that she was on his side. Xander didn’t know what they would have done without her. He wanted her to check on Sarah with him. Her smile faded as they went to check on her. Eric arrived at the townhouse to visit with Marlena. He filled her in about Nicole and Jude. Eric couldn’t stay away after what happened with Brady. Marlena couldn’t believe that Brady would be careless and cruel enough to drive drunk and leave Sarah behind. Eric couldn’t judge him after what he did to Holly’s father.

John went to see Brady at the station. He assured Brady that Justin would get the charges against him dropped. Brady planned to plead guilty and suffer the consequences. John reminded him that there’s no proof he hit Sarah especially since his car was gone. He wanted him to think of his kids and consider letting Justin prepare a defense for him. Brady wasn’t down for that idea, so John asked him to do it for him. Xander let Sarah know that he couldn’t talk Justin out of representing Brady. Fiona thought they should think about something positive like Victoria’s party. She offered to help plan the party. Justin asked Maggie how she felt about him being Brady’s lawyer. She supported the decision. Maggie loved Brady, but she was horrified by his actions. She understood his disease. Maggie would have helped him, but he didn’t come to her. It’s hard for her to believe that he did that. Eric told Marlena that he thinks about what he did to Daniel every day. He and Nicole were waiting for the right time to tell Holly the truth. She was too young, but they decided that he should tell her the truth before she found out from someone else. Tate met with Holly and told her that he felt sorry for his father. She couldn’t believe she felt sorry for him after what he did to her aunt. Jail was the right punishment for what he did to Sarah. Tate defended his father, and they got into an argument. She reminded him that her father was killed by a drunk driver. He knew it was an accident and asked if she forgave Eric. Holly didn’t know what he meant by that. Tate realized he said too much. John continued to plead with Brady to plead not guilty until they knew the facts. He thought there might be more to the story. Fiona felt terrible about what happened to Sarah. Sarah had a flashback of Fiona driving. Xander asked Sarah what happened. Sarah looked at Fiona and wondered if she was the one that hit her.

Luna says nothing and just looks glum.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[soft music]

Oh, Sarah, there you are.

Mm-hmm. And there you are.

Um, it’s okay, isn’t it? The door was open. I–I wanted to ask you about, you know, the decorations for Victoria’s birthday party tomorrow.

Mm, mm-hmm. Are you sure you’re not just sitting there waiting to help me back in bed?

[sighs] Sweetheart, you’re still getting used to the wheelchair. And yes, I’m concerned that it might be just a bit difficult for you right now.

Well, it’s not. The physical therapist showed me how to do the transfer, so I feel confident I can do it. Prepare to be awed.

Okay.

Okay. Here we go. All right.

Look, I got it.

Hi, darling.

Oh, hey, Mum. Where’s your, uh, little granddaughter?

Oh, she’s in the kitchen. Bonnie insisted on giving her some ice cream. I suppose it’s her way of spending time with our little angel.

While giving you a little break.

Not that I needed one.

So…I assume you’re settling in here okay?

I am indeed. My room is gorgeous, and the staff are even doting on me. This house is palatial. I have to wonder why you haven’t moved out.

Oh, let’s just say that my father is a less gracious host than Maggie.

Xander, Fiona, welcome. Bonnie told me that you had moved in. How’s Sarah doing?

Well, actually, she’s resting right now.

Right. Well, if Bonnie or I can be of any help, if Sarah needs anything at all–

I’ll tell you what she needs. She needs you to fire your client.

[tense music]

Ah, thanks, Tink. You know that we–we really appreciate that. I will. I’ll keep you posted. Love you, too, honey.

You told Belle about Brady, I assume?

Yeah. Yeah, I did. She’s obviously upset. She even offered to come home to represent him.

I thought she might do that.

Yeah. But I told her that Justin’s all over it. Oh–oh, Paul, he also offered to– to come home. Not for any legal advice but just, uh, moral support.

Does love his brother.

Actually, he just wants to be here for all of us.

[door opens]

Here’s your visitor.

[soft music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

How can you offer to defend the man that nearly killed Sarah? She’s my wife. Where’s your family loyalty?

Xander, you know I love Sarah, but Brady’s family too.

Don’t remind me.

Everyone deserves a defense.

Says who? I mean, my God, Justin. Getting behind the wheel of a car when you’re out of your mind drunk– I mean, that’s not just a mistake, is it? It’s not just a– a little lapse in judgment. It’s a bloody crime. Not to mention, after he ran Sarah down, he just went off on his merry way. Didn’t even bother to check if she was dead or alive.

Xander, I get that you’re suffering right now.

Forget my suffering. My wife might never walk again. So I don’t think Brady Black should ever see daylight again. I mean, as far as I’m concerned, scum like that, all you can do is lock him up and throw away the key.

Oh, for God’s sake, Xander. It was an accident.

Mom, I said I can do it. Will you just please let me?

Listen, Sarah, you will eventually do this on your own, but for right now, will you please let me help you?

And I can help, too, Aunt Sarah.

Hey, honey.

Please, will you let me?

All right, yeah, sure.

Holly, grab her feet, okay? Okay. Good.

Whoa.

[grunts] Well, I do not know who moved this bed up a foot, but they will be hearing from my lawyer. So if you could just go grab Justin. Thank you, both of you. Boy, I do not know where I get this stubbornness from.

Mm. It’s a mystery.

Oh, is it?

Yes, but you know you’re not gonna get any help for long ’cause you’re strong and you’re determined. And before you know it, you’re gonna be in and out of that chair just like an old pro.

It’s just a matter of time.

Mm.

Aunt Sarah, for whatever it’s worth, I’m really, really sorry.

Honey, is this about you blaming yourself for the accident?

I am to blame, though. If that cabin key had been where it was supposed to be, then you wouldn’t have had to go look for it. You wouldn’t be in the street when–

Holly, Holly, look at me. The search for the key did not put me in that chair. There’s only one person to blame. It is not you. – I didn’t expect to see you, Tate.

I just needed to see how you are. Hope that’s okay.

Yeah. Sure, it’s fine, it’s okay, but, uh… You must be pretty ashamed of your–of your dad, huh?

No. No, I’m not ashamed of you. I feel bad for you, that’s all. I just–

[sighs] I wanna understand how this happened.

How it happened. Well, it starts with one drink, and then it leads to a couple more. And, uh, your dad’s an alcoholic, as you know, and sometimes it’s very hard for me to stop.

Uh, I meant the accident.

Oh, the accident. Oh, that’s– here’s the kicker on that one. I don’t remember. That’s how bad your dad was. That’s how drunk he was. I–I hit Sarah with my car, and it’s a blank.

Why did you even relapse in the first place, Dad? I–I don’t understand. Like, what happened to make you start drinking again?

Oh, I meant to tell you– I talked to Dad this morning. Just wanted to fill him in on what’s going on.

And how did he take it?

Well, he’s upset for– for all of us. He’s sad that Brady had fallen off the wagon, and even sadder about the accident. And he just wanted to know if there was anything he could do to help us.

He is such a kind man.

Yes, he is. I really appreciate the offer, just like I appreciate everyone’s offer here. But Doc, I’m telling you, this deal with all these phone calls this morning here and updating people who really care about Brady, plus, on top of my own worries, it’s–

It’s a lot.

Yeah. It’s a lot.

Mm-hmm. You’re lucky to have me to help you.

[soft music]

Damn lucky.

I am right here for you. We’re going to get through this together.

Now, you can’t just let me off that easy, Aunt Sarah. The only reason I had that cabin key was because I was lying, lying to everyone about Tate staying in the cabin all summer just so we could have time together.

Honey, if you wanna feel guilty about lying, I’ll allow it. But you are not allowed to feel guilty, not even a little bit, about what happened to me. I mean it. The only person that is to blame is the driver who hit me. Sugar, am I getting through to you at all?

Yeah, I guess. Thank you for being so kind to me. It still doesn’t change the fact that I wish I could go back in time and just leave that key where it was meant to be.

[sighs] You know, honey, there’s a reason they say hindsight is /. I see it in the hospital all the time. In one moment, someone’s life is changed forever, whether it’s a– a terrible accident or a serious disease. Either way, we can all try to plan out our lives the way we want, but we have– we have no control over what happens to us. And so all we can do is just try to handle the circumstances the best we can.

And we can all be grateful that your Aunt Sarah’s getting stronger every day.

Yeah. Not as fast as I would like, but I am getting there.

Thank God for that.

So you started drinking again because of Mom?

No, I’m not– I’m not blaming her, okay? I’m responsible for my own actions, okay? But–when I saw your mom marrying Alex, I didn’t like it. I did think there was a chance your mom and I might be able to get back together, and then when I saw that that was never gonna happen, I, uh– it hit me hard. And then I found myself at the pub, and it all went downhill from there.

[pensive music]

Mom’s wedding was weeks ago. Have you been drinking this whole time?

Yes. Remember when I saw you in the square? I ran into you, and I told you to get your butt back to lacrosse camp, don’t bother coming home. Remember that?

Yeah.

Well, it seems that we were both lying to each other that day. The only difference is, son, my lies were worse, because the–the consequences were tragic and they cannot be undone. Tate, I was right in the middle of that– what do you call it? The throes of my addiction at the time, and I didn’t want you to see me. I didn’t want you to see your father and how bad he had become. And I thank– thank you for–for– for not being ashamed of your father. But the problem is, your father is very ashamed of himself.

– I’m sorry, Mum. You’re not actually defending Brady, are you? I mean, first of all, you don’t even know him.

No, I don’t. And I’m certainly not defending what he did to Sarah. But darling, from everything I’m told, the man’s an alcoholic. He has a disease, just like I do. And he certainly didn’t mean to harm her.

Of course he didn’t.

Of course you agree. I mean, you’ve already made it quite clear whose side you’re on.

Xander, this isn’t about taking sides. This is about having compassion for someone who, yes, made a terrible mistake, but who is also incredibly remorseful about it. And let’s not forget that Brady is a member of the family. A family, who, by the way, didn’t write you off after you held my wife hostage in the garden shed.

And yet I don’t remember you offering me legal services back then, did you, huh? But then you’re all too happy to sign up to be Brady’s lawyer.

You’re lucky you don’t need a lawyer now after you tried to choke him to death.

Well, he better hope that I don’t get another chance ’cause if I do, I’m gonna break his bloody neck.

Mm.

Thanks. I needed that.

I needed that too.

[pensive music]

And now it’s time to go talk to my son.

Would, uh–would you like some company?

Better handle this one on my own. But I’m grateful for your offer, Doc.

Right. Well, please tell Brady that I love him.

You know I will.

That’s it. You’ve heard it all. And it’s okay if you don’t wanna have anything to do with me anymore.

How can you even say that? You’re my dad. My God, you didn’t turn your back on me when everyone blamed me for Holly’s overdose.

You were innocent.

Yeah, but you didn’t know that. Hell, you even tried to take the rap for me. Yeah–yeah, I feel terrible about what’s happened to Holly’s aunt. There’s no way I’m turning my back on you.

Even though I tried to keep you and Holly apart for a long time, you’re not– you’re not pissed about that?

No, I don’t care about any of that, Dad. I’m telling you, all I care about is being here for you.

Son, you need to know that your mom may not be the only one that’s gonna be in prison.

Prison? You’d go to prison for an accident?

Drunk driving and hitting someone is not an accident. It’s a crime. It’s a horrible crime. I could have cost Sarah her life.

Yeah, but thank God you didn’t. And– look, in time, Sarah is going to forgive you because she’s a doctor and she gets that you have a disease. Everyone gets that, and so everyone’s gonna understand and forgive you. I already have.

[knock at door]

Yeah. Yeah.

I love you, Dad.

I love you too. I love you too.

Okay, sweetheart, can I get you anything? I mean, dinner is not gonna be for a while. I can have Henderson bring you up a snack.

No. No, I’m good. I’m good. I just, uh–I wanna go check on Victoria.

Uh, well, not right now, ’cause Bonnie has her down in the kitchen. They’re conducting a taste test of all the different ice cream flavors in the freezer.

[chuckling] Bonnie is so good with her.

Yeah, she is. Our little angel, she– she worked up quite an appetite at the pool. You should have seen her. She kept pulling herself up on the rail. You can just tell she’s gonna be walking soon. Honey, I’m sorry.

What are you sorry for?

Well, it’s just that, you know, once she does, it’s–

I know. I know. It’ll be impossible for me to keep up with her. Or to walk next to her.

[solemn music] But it’s like you said the other day when I was feeling bad for myself. You said, “Sarah, you will find a way.” And I will. Mom, I’m glad that my little girl is growing up. You know, it’s like you said. I’m lucky I have a wonderful husband and a beautiful little girl who surprises me every single day. And that chair isn’t gonna stop me from being the best mother and wife that I can possibly be.

Of course it isn’t. Oh, Sarah, I’m so proud of you.

I’m proud of you too. You are always so strong and tough after all the losses that you’ve suffered, all the struggles that you’ve had. And hey, it’s my daughter’s first birthday party tomorrow.

Yeah, and you’re gonna celebrate it with her. Oh, darling, that smile of yours and the light in your eyes when you see her– that’s all she cares about.

I need to go check in with my office.

Yeah, well, let’s hope they’ve lost Brady’s paperwork.

[soft tense music] How can he do this to us? How can he defend the drunken swine who ran Sarah over and left her for dead?

Darling, I just want you to know that despite what I said earlier about Brady, I am % on your side.

Why would I think anything else? I mean, ever since– ever since Sarah’s accident, you’ve just been so caring and supportive. I don’t know what we would have done without you.

I’ll always be here for both you and Sarah. You mean the world to me.

And you to us. Hey, I’m gonna go check on her. Why don’t you come with me?

Are you sure? Don’t you want some time together, just the two of you?

There’ll be plenty of time for that. But she’s always so happy to see you.

As I am her. Shall we?

Oh, honey, I’m so glad to see you.

That goes double for me.

I’ve missed you so much.

Oh, I’ve missed you so much too. And I’ve missed little Jude. Thank you, by the way, for all the pictures and the wonderful videos. And I assume that, uh–that he and Nicole are doing well.

They are. They are. And you and John, you’re gonna have to make plans to come to Paris, of course, so you can see your little grandson in person.

Yeah, we’ve been making plans to–to do that. We’re looking forward to it. But in the meantime, thank you for coming to us.

Of course. There was no way I was gonna stay in France, not with my brother in trouble.

Well, um, Dad, I wasn’t expecting you.

Well, here I am. Because you need to know you’re not alone in this, and everyone who loves you is right here with you.

Well, maybe– maybe they should go visit Sarah, and then– then we’d see how they’d feel about this all.

We are capable…

[soft tense music] Of caring about you and Sarah, okay? Now, listen, you’re not gonna be in here for long. Justin is determined to get you cleared of all charges–

Dad. Dad, I don’t wanna be cleared. I wanna pay for my crime.

Ahh, hey, you.

What are you up to, my love?

Well, I’m just going over a little list of everything that we need to get done for our child’s birthday party tomorrow.

Give me an assignment. Give me several.

Actually, my mom has everything covered.

Of course she has. Well, speaking of, my mum was hoping to say hello as well.

Oh, great.

Hello, Sarah, my dear. How are you settling in?

I’m doing okay. Thank you. What about you? Do you have everything that you need?

I do. Thank you. Everyone’s been simply marvelous. But we just want to focus on making things easier for you.

And some of us have been doing a much better job of that than others.

What do you mean?

Meaning I just tried and failed to get Justin to ditch Brady as a client.

Maggie.

Hi, Justin.

I was about to call you. I thought you’d be out and about.

Uh, no. I’m here, obviously. What’s going on?

Well, Xander was here earlier, and– well, let’s just say he wasn’t too happy about me taking Brady’s case.

Mm. I imagine not.

He actually asked me to drop it. I said no.

Oh.

But now I’m wondering– how do you feel about that?

Hi.

Hi. I’m so glad to see you.

Same here.

I needed that badly.

Me too.

How are you? I’ve been thinking about you nonstop.

Yeah, I’m okay. I just came from the police station. I went to see my dad.

Must have been really hard for you.

It was awful. It’s depressing as hell. I just feel so sorry for him.

For him? Why?

So Brady’s been drinking for a while now?

Yeah. Since Theresa got married. I guess he had some hopes they would get back together, and then– then his hopes were dashed.

I see.

It’s just so sad. He’s been sober for so long, and–

[solemn music] To drive drunk, to hit somebody, to leave the scene– I could never even imagine that Brady could be so reckless, so cruel. I mean, he didn’t even call anybody to let someone know that Sarah was lying there on the side of the road.

Yeah, that’s hard to believe. But I’m the last one to judge after what I did to Holly’s father.

My dad’s in jail, Holly. Why would I not feel bad for him?

I mean, isn’t that where he belongs? Your dad got wasted, and then he plowed his car into my Aunt Sarah. She’s paralyzed, Tate.

Okay, I–I know that, and I’m–

My God, I just watched her struggle to lift herself into bed, something that you and I take for granted that she now has to learn how to do all over again. And–and there’s some things she’s probably never gonna be able to do again in her life.

And my dad feels horrible about that, and he’s wracked with guilt, and he hates himself for what happened. But Holly, this thing, this whole thing was an accident.

An accident that could have easily been prevented. Your dad certainly didn’t have to get drunk and get behind the wheel. I mean, no, it wasn’t just an accident. It was a crime.

He knows that. He wasn’t thinking clearly. He was upset about my mom.

Oh, so are you saying that’s an excuse? What, we’re supposed to feel sorry for him because he got upset and drank himself into a stupor, and he forgot that driving drunk can kill people?

Look–

Or I guess, just in my Aunt Sarah’s case, ruin someone’s life?

All I’m saying is that I just– I wish that you wouldn’t be so judgmental about this, because you know that I feel terrible about what’s happened to your Aunt Sarah. But so does my dad, and he’s suffering, too, like, a lot. I–I don’t know why we’re arguing about this. The situation isn’t like–

Isn’t what?

It’s not black and white.

Oh. But that’s exactly what this is. Because there’s no gray area here, Tate, if that’s what you mean. Because, thanks to your dad, my Aunt Sarah is probably never going to be able to walk again. Which is why I don’t understand how the hell you can defend him.

No, Justin. I don’t want you to stop defending Brady. In spite of what happened, I love him. I’ll always love him. I’m just profoundly disappointed in him. No, I’m more than disappointed. I’m just horrified that– that he could have gotten behind the wheel of a car when he was drunk and hit my daughter and then just drove off.

Yeah. It seems like a lot of people in this house are struggling with how someone we all love could cause such a tragedy.

Well, it may be somewhat easier for me to understand… since I’m a little familiar with that insidious disease of Brady’s. You see, it kind of lies in wait… For that moment of weakness, whatever the cause. And the one way to fight it, the only way to fight it, is to ask for help, to reach out to your sponsor.

Which, in Brady’s case, was you.

Yeah. And I know I could have helped him.

[chuckles] But he never gave me the chance.

I don’t understand. Why would you even call Justin if you–

If I didn’t wanna be defended? Because Jade insisted on doing everything by the book, and I didn’t really have a choice. The fact is, Dad, I’m gonna– I’m gonna plead guilty. I don’t need a lawyer to do that. And I’m gonna take responsibility for what I did, and I’m gonna suffer the damn consequences.

But do you even know what you’re taking responsibility for?

Yes, I do. Sarah’s in a wheelchair, and I think that’s a pretty big clue.

Obviously, there was some sort of an accident, okay? But there is no proof that you caused it. And the police, they don’t have any– they don’t have any evidence here, especially now that your car is gone.

Yeah, yeah, and that’s thanks to Kristen, who, in her misguided attempt to protect me, got rid of it. She says she was thinking of Rachel when she did it.

You know, maybe you should do the same thing. Yeah.

Think about–you don’t think I’m thinking about them? That’s all I’m thinking about, are my kids and the kind of example that I’m leading. Dad, I don’t want them to be ashamed of the kind of man that their father is. Do you understand that?

Come on. Justin putting up a defense for you is nothing to be ashamed about.

[soft tense music]

I’m doing it. I’m–I’m–I’m doing it, and there’s no– no way you’re gonna change my mind.

Not even if I tell you that not only are your kids not gonna be the only ones who are heartbroken, but you’re gonna be locked up for God knows how long? It’s gonna be devastating to me, your old man. So what do you say if I were to ask you to just… Do it for me?

Baby, I understand that you are angry, but Brady is family. And I can understand why Justin didn’t wanna just abandon him.

Well, I can’t. As far as I’m concerned, the family member that did this to you deserves to rot in hell.

Darling, I worry that this kind of talk will wear on Sarah. So why don’t we just focus on something positive like– well, I don’t know, my precious granddaughter’s first birthday?

Yes, I would very much like to focus on that.

And just so you know, now that I’m here, you have me at your complete disposal for any help that you need with the party, or anything else for that matter.

Thank you, Fiona. That’s very sweet.

Well, Sarah, you’re– you’re like a daughter to me now. I’m just so terribly sorry that you have to suffer like this. You don’t deserve this.

Oh, darling, I know you still live with the pain of what happened to Daniel.

[solemn music]

There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think about him. And since I’ve been back…

Since you’ve been back what?

I just feel a tremendous amount of sadness and remorse.

Why is that?

Back when Nicole and I were married… We decided that, well, Holly, she was too young to know the details of the accident that killed her father. We agreed that some day she deserved to know the truth.

She still doesn’t know that you caused the accident?

I just wanted to wait for the right time, and when Nicole, she told EJ that she wanted a divorce, he threatened to tell Holly the truth.

Well, that’s not surprising, is it? But I can’t imagine that he would have followed through with that threat.

No, he didn’t. Nicole and I decided since I was coming back home for Brady that, well, I needed to take some time to be the one to tell Holly the truth before she found out from somebody else.

Holly, you know my dad. You know he’s not a bad person.

No? Does a good person drive drunk and run someone over and not even stop to check to see if they’re dead or alive?

Yeah, like I said, this situation isn’t black and white. Yes, he did a terrible thing. But my dad’s an addict. He’s got a disease.

Okay, then it was his job to deal with his addiction on his own, not make somebody else suffer for it.

Oh, my God. He didn’t mean to make anyone suffer, Holly.

Oh, he didn’t mean to. I bet he didn’t mean to drive drunk. Did he not mean to put his foot on the gas? For God’s sake, Tate, did your dad never hear or read all those countless anti-drunk driving PSAs?

Yes, yes, he’s heard them. Who hasn’t heard them? Come on. Like I said, he wasn’t thinking clearly. He’s an alcoholic who had a relapse, okay? And he’s tortured with guilt over what he’s done. So I don’t know why you don’t at least have some compassion for him.

Yeah, well, I don’t. Because, as you seem to have forgotten, my own father was killed by a drunk driver, who probably just wasn’t in their right mind either.

Um, yeah, I– I haven’t forgotten that. You’re absolutely right. And I know that that makes this even harder for you to talk about. But Holly, look, that was a terrible accident too. It was. I mean, look, you forgave Eric, right?

[soft tense music]

Forgave Eric? What do you mean?

I suppose Brady was afraid to call you because he didn’t want to be judged.

He knows I’d never do that. Sponsors don’t judge. They just support you, and they guide you. You know, I had reassured Brady over and over that whatever his condition was, however he was feeling, all he had to do was pick up the phone and call me. I trusted that he understood that. That if he–that if he was impaired, that I’d be there. I’d pick him up and get him back on track, and I’d prevent him from destroying himself or anyone else. And especially… From getting behind the wheel when he had been drinking. Which is why I’m– I don’t know. It’s just so hard for me to believe that he actually did this.

Dad, come on. You–you know I would do anything for you. But this, this–this is–

Son. I said it before. I respect your decision to want to take responsibility. But how can you even do that if you don’t have all the facts?

Facts? Dad, the facts are that your son got drunk. He hit a woman with his car, and–and– and he left her at the scene. I think the facts are pretty straightforward, don’t you think?

Okay. All right, maybe you’re right. Maybe everything will turn out as straightforward as you think it is. But all I’m asking you is this– do not plead guilty until you know the whole story. Son, for all we know, there may be some mitigating circumstances here. For all we know, there’s a hell of a lot more to this story.

Oh, Sarah, I just can’t believe that this has happened to you, and so soon after you and Xander were married. And especially on a night that’s supposed to be one of the happiest nights of your life. I just–I just thank God it wasn’t so much worse.

Sarah? What is it?

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Sarah goes to her room where Maggie is waiting. Maggie says she wanted to talk to her about decorations for Victoria’s first birthday party tomorrow but Sarah thinks Maggie wanted to help her get back in the bed. Maggie admits her concerns with Sarah still getting used to the wheelchair. Sarah assures that she feels confident that she can do it. Maggie holds back from helping her while Holly looks in to the room as Sarah moves herself onto the bed.

Fiona joins Xander in the living room. Fiona almost reaches for the alcohol but pours a water instead as Xander asks about Victoria. Fiona says she’s in the kitchen with Bonnie getting ice cream. Xander assumes that Fiona is settling in okay at the Kiriakis Mansion. Fiona confirms that she is and wonders why Xander ever moved out. Xander responds that Victor was a less gracious host than Maggie. Justin walks in and greets them, noting that Bonnie told him they had moved in and asks about Sarah. Fiona says that she’s resting right now. Justin offers he and Bonnie’s help if Sarah needs anything but Xander responds that what Sarah needs is for Justin to fire his client.

John finishes a call with Belle as he sits at home with Marlena. John tells Marlena that he told Belle about Brady and she even offered to come home to represent him, but he told her that Justin is all over it. John adds that Paul also offered to come home for moral support as he just wants to be there for all of them.

Tate goes to the police station to visit Brady in the interrogation room.

Xander questions how Justin could offer to defend the man who nearly killed Sarah. Justin argues that he loves Sarah but Brady is family too and everyone deserves a defense. Xander argues that driving drunk is not just a mistake but a crime. Xander adds that after running Sarah down, he just went on his way and didn’t even bother to check if she was dead or alive. Justin gets that Xander is suffering. Xander argues that Sarah may never walk again so he doesn’t think Brady should ever see daylight again. Xander remarks that scum like that should be locked up with the key thrown away. Fiona cuts him off and tells him that it was an accident.

Sarah insist to Maggie that she can do it but Maggie insists on helping her. Holly comes in and tells Sarah that she can help too if she lets her which Sarah allows so Maggie and Holly help Sarah in to bed. Sarah thanks them and jokes about not knowing where she gets the stubbornness from. Maggie encourages her being strong and determined. Holly tells Sarah that she’s really sorry, insisting that she is to blame since if the cabin key was where it was supposed to be, she wouldn’t have to go look for it. Sarah assures that the search for the key is not what put her in the wheelchair and that there’s only one person to blame which is not Holly.

Brady didn’t expect to see Tate. Tate responds that he just needed to see how he is if that’s okay. Brady says it’s fine but that Tate must pretty ashamed of him. Tate responds that he’s not and that he feels bad for him. Tate wants to understand how this happened. Brady says it starts with one drink and then it leads to a couple more. Brady states that he’s an alcoholic and sometimes it’s very hard for him to stop. Tate asks about the accident. Brady tells him that he doesn’t remember because that’s how drunk he was. Tate questions why he even relapsed in the first place as he doesn’t understand what happened to make him start drinking again.

John tells Marlena that he talked to his dad this morning to fill him in on what’s going on. John says he’s upset for all of them and sad that Brady fell off the wagon and about the accident, so he wanted to know if he could do anything to help. Marlena calls him such a kind man. John appreciates everyone’s offer but talks about the phone calls to update everyone about Brady being a lot. Marlena says luckily, he has her to help him, assuring that she’s right here for him and they are going to get through this together as they hug.

Holly tells Sarah that she can’t just let her off that easy since the only reason she had the cabin key was because she was lying to everyone just so she and Tate could spend time together. Sarah tells Holly that she’s allowed to feel guilty for lying but not about what happened to her. Sarah repeats that the only person to blame is the driver who hit her. Sarah asks if she’s getting through to her at all. Holly guesses a little and thanks her for being so kind to her, but she still wishes she could go back in time and leave the key where it was meant to be. Sarah talks about lives being changed forever in one moment and they have no control over what happens to them, so all they can do is try to handle the circumstances the best they can. Maggie encourages being grateful that Sarah is getting stronger every day. Sarah admits it’s not as fast as she’d like but she’s getting there. Holly thanks God for that.

Tate asks if Brady started drinking again because of Theresa. Brady clarifies that he’s not blaming her since he’s responsible for his own actions, but when he saw Theresa marrying Alex, he didn’t like it as he did think there was a chance they could get back together and when he realized that wasn’t going to happen, it hit him hard so he went to the Pub and went downhill from there. Tate points out that Theresa’s wedding was weeks ago. Brady admits that he’d been drinking the whole time. Brady reminds Tate of when he sent him back to lacrosse camp and how it seems they were both lying to each other that day, but his lies were worse because the consequences were tragic and cannot be undone. Brady talks about being right in the middle of his addiction, so he didn’t want Tate to see how bad he had become. Brady thanks Tate for not being ashamed of him, but says he’s ashamed of himself.

Xander questions if Fiona is defending Brady, arguing that she doesn’t even know him. Fiona says she’s not, but she’s been told that Brady is an alcoholic and has a disease like she does and it’s not like he meant to hit Sarah. Justin agrees, so Xander complains that Justin has made it clear whose side he’s on. Justin argues that it’s not about taking sides, but about having compassion for someone who made a terrible mistake and is incredibly remorseful about it. Justin repeats that Brady is a member of the family and brings up that the family didn’t write Xander off when he held Bonnie hostage in the shed. Xander argues that Justin wasn’t rushing to represent him back then like he’s doing for Brady. Justin remarks that Xander is lucky he doesn’t need legal representation now after nearly choking Brady to death. Xander declares that Brady better hope he doesn’t get another chance because if he does, he’s going to break his neck.

John thanks Marlena and says he needed that. Marlena says she did too. John declares it’s now time to go talk to his son. Marlena asks if he’d like some company but John feels he should handle this on his own. Marlena tells John to tell Brady that she loves him. John says he will as he then exits.

Brady tells Tate that he’s now heard it all and it’s okay if he wants nothing to do with him anymore. Tate asks how he can even say that when he’s his dad. Tate brings up that Brady didn’t turn his back on him when everyone blamed him for Holly’s overdose and even tried to take the fall for him. Tate says he feels bad for what’s happened to Sarah but there’s no way he’s turning his back on Brady. Brady asks if Tate isn’t pissed that he tried to keep him and Holly apart. Tate insist that he only cares about being there for him. Brady tells Tate that Theresa may not be the only one that’s going to be in prison. Tate questions if Brady would go to prison for an accident. Brady responds that drunk driving and hitting someone is not an accident but a horrible crime as he could’ve cost Sarah her life. Tate is thankful that he didn’t and encourages that Sarah will forgive him in time because she’s a doctor and gets that he has a disease. Tate believes everyone will forgive him as he already has. They hug until an officer comes in to tell Tate his time is up. Tate tells Brady that he loves him and then exits.

Maggie asks Sarah if she can get her anything. Sarah says she’s good and wants to check on Victoria. Maggie says not right now since Bonnie has her in the kitchen, tasting ice cream. Sarah laughs about Bonnie being so good with her. Maggie talks about Victoria being at the pool and comments that she will be walking soon. Maggie then apologizes as Sarah knows it will be impossible for her to keep up with Victoria or walk next to her. Sarah encourages that she will find a way and she’s glad Victoria is growing up. Sarah says she’s lucky to have a wonderful husband and beautiful daughter, so the wheelchair won’t stop her from being the best mother and wife she can be. Maggie says she’s so proud of her. Sarah is proud of Maggie too for always being so strong despite all the losses she’s suffered. Sarah reminds her that tomorrow is Victoria’s first birthday party.

Justin says he needs to go check in with his office. Xander hopes that they lost Brady’s paperwork. After Justin exits, Xander questions how he can do this to them and defend the swine that left Sarah for dead. Fiona assures Xander that she’s 100% on his side. Xander talks about how supportive she’s been and says he doesn’t know what they would’ve done without her. Fiona assures she’ll always be there. Xander invites Fiona to come with him when he goes to check on Sarah so they exit together.

Eric surprises Marlena at her door. Marlena hugs him and says she’s so glad to see him. Eric says he’s missed her so much. Marlena talks about missing him and Jude, thanking him for all the pictures and videos. Eric tells her that Jude and Nicole are doing well, adding that John and Marlena will have to plan a trip to Paris to come see them. Marlena thanks Eric for coming to them. Eric responds that there’s no way he was going to stay in France while his brother’s in trouble.

John goes to visit Brady in the interrogation room and tells him that everyone who loves him is there for him. Brady remarks that maybe they should go see Sarah and then see how they feel. John says they are capable of caring about him and Sarah. John assures that Brady won’t be in here long because Justin will get him cleared of all charges but Brady responds that he doesn’t want to be cleared, he wants to pay for his crime.

Xander goes to check on Sarah, who says she’s going over the list of everything for Victoria’s birthday party. Xander asks what he can do but Sarah says Maggie has it all covered. Fiona joins Xander and checks on Sarah, saying they just want to focus on making things easier for her. Xander remarks that some of them have been doing a better job than others, since he just tried and failed to get Justin to drop Brady as a client.

Justin finds Maggie in the living room and says he was about to call her. Justin informs her that Xander wasn’t too happy about him taking Brady’s case and actually asked him to drop it, but he said no. Justin wonders how Maggie feels about that.

Tate meets Holly in the park and kisses her. Holly says she’s so glad to see him as she needed that badly. Holly asks how he is. Tate says he’s okay and just came from seeing his dad at the police station. Tate admits it was awful and depressing as Hell as he feels so sorry for him. Holly questions why.

Eric asks Marlena about Brady drinking for awhile now. Marlena confirms it’s been since Theresa got married since Brady had hopes they would get back together and then his hopes were dashed. Marlena calls it so sad since Brady had been sober for so long and then to drive drunk, hit somebody, and leave the scene. Marlena could never imagine that Brady could be so reckless and cruel as he didn’t even call anyone to let them know that Sarah was lying on the side of the road. Eric calls it hard to believe but says he’s the last one to judge after what he did to Holly’s father.

Tate tells Holly that Brady is in jail and questions why he wouldn’t feel bad for him. Holly argues that’s where he belongs for getting wasted and plowing his car in to Sarah, who is now paralyzed. Holly argues that she just watched Sarah struggle to get herself in to bed and there’s some things she’ll probably never be able to do again. Tate argues that Brady feels horrible and hates himself for what happened but it was an accident. Holly calls it an accident that could’ve been easily prevented because Brady didn’t have to get drunk and drive. Holly states it wasn’t just an accident, it was a crime. Tate argues that Brady wasn’t thinking straight and was upset about Theresa. Holly asks if that’s an excuse and if they’re supposed to feel sorry for him. Tate wishes Holly wouldn’t be so judgmental about this because she knows he feels terrible about what happened to Sarah, but Brady is suffering too. Tate doesn’t know why they are arguing abou when this situation is not black and white. Holly complains that it is exactly that as there’s no grey area and Sarah may never walk again, so she doesn’t know how the hell Tate can defend Brady.

Maggie tells Justin that she doesn’t want him to stop defending Brady in spite of what happened as she will always love him, but she’s profoundly disappointed in him and horrified that Brady could’ve drove drunk, hit her daughter, and then drove off. Justin says it seems a lot of people in the house are struggling with how someone they all love could cause such a tragedy. Maggie says it may be somewhat easier for her to understand since she’s familiar with that disease of Brady’s. Maggie talks about how it lies in wait for that moment of weakness and says the only way to fight is to ask for help and reach out to your sponsor. Maggie cries that she knows she could’ve helped Brady, but he never gave her the chance.

John doesn’t understand and questions why Brady would call Justin if he didn’t want to be defended. Brady explains that Jada wanted to do things by the book so he didn’t have a choice. Brady declares that he’s going to plead guilty and suffer the consequences. John asks if he even knows what he’s taking responsibility for. Brady says Sarah being in a wheelchair is a pretty big clue. John argues that there’s no proof that Brady caused the accident and the police have no evidence now that his car is gone. Brady talks about Kristen doing that in thinking of Rachel. John suggests he do the same thing. Brady says his kids are all he’s thinking about as he doesn’t want them to be ashamed of the kind of man that their father is. John argues that Justin defending him is nothing to be ashamed about. Brady insists that he’s doing it and there’s no way to change his mind. John tells Brady that his kids won’t be the only ones heartbroken if Brady is locked up as it will devastate him too. John asks Brady to do it for him.

Sarah understands Xander is angry but points out that Brady is family, so she can understand why Justin wouldn’t want to abandon him. Xander still wants Brady to rot in Hell. Fiona suggests focusing on the positives like Victoria’s birthday. Fiona says she’s there for any help they need. Sarah thanks her. Fiona says that Sarah is like a daughter to her now and she’s terribly sorry that she has to suffer like this which she doesn’t deserve.

Marlena knows Eric still lives with the pain of what happened to Daniel. Eric says there’s not a day that goes by that he doesn’t think about him. Eric adds that since he’s been back, he feels a tremendous amount of sadness and remorse. Eric says that back when he and Nicole were married, they decided that Holly was too young to know the details of the accident that killed her father but they agreed that someday, she deserved to know the truth. Marlena is surprised to learn that Holly still doesn’t know Eric caused the accident. Eric explains that they wanted to wait for the right time and that EJ threatened to tell Holly the truth when Nicole filed for divorce. Eric reveals that he and Nicole decided that he needs to be the one to tell Holly the truth before she hears it from someone else.

Brady tells John that he would do anything for him but this. John repeats that he respects Brady’s decision to want to take responsibility but questions how he can do that without having all the facts. Brady states that he got drunk, hit a woman with his car, and left her at the scene so he thinks the facts are pretty straightforward. John says maybe he’s right and everything will turn out as he thinks it is. John asks Brady to not plead guilty until he knows the whole story. John adds that for all they know, there may be mitigating circumstances and a hell of a lot more to this story.

Fiona can’t believe this has happened to Sarah and so soon after she and Xander got married, especially on what was supposed to be one of the happiest nights of her life. Fiona thanks God that it wasn’t so much worse. Sarah then has a blurry memory of the accident. Xander asks her what’s wrong.

Update written by Joseph

Kayla goes to see Steve at Stephanie’s apartment and jokes with him about having plumbing issues.

Leo sits in the town square going over his script writing when Chad approaches. Leo greets him and says he hasn’t seen him around the office much so he asks how things are. Chad says things are okay and thanks him. Leo figured a guy who’s wife just came back from the dead would be a lot happier than he is and asks what gives.

In the living room of the DiMera Mansion, “Abigail” calls Mark and tells him that she was able to convince Chad to move back home to be with the kids. She calls it a relief to not have him hovering all the time and now that she can finally breathe, she thinks they need to figure out the next step of their plan, right as Stephanie enters the room.

Gabi tells EJ that she doesn’t know why she’s suddenly getting cold feet as she really wants to get back at Stefan. EJ tells her that she doesn’t have to make a decision right away and advises her to think it through because once the cat’s out of the bag, there’s no going back. Gabi questions why EJ is being so nice about this. EJ supposes it’s because he recently had his own heart broken and he was angry but also hurt and he knows he would do anything to make his pain go away, even if it meant swallowing his own pride. Stefan then enters the room to ask if EJ has seen Gabi but is surprised to see them together. Stefan says he didn’t expect to find Gabi in here. Gabi starts to explain but Stefan says he knows exactly what was going on. Stefan accuses EJ of inviting Gabi in to his lair to offer her a sympathetic ear and clearly gave her his robe. Stefan says he shouldn’t be surprised that EJ is there for her since he’s made such a public stance on where he stands on their marital issues. EJ tries to explain but Stefan tells him to stay out of it. Stefan declares that EJ is trying to use Gabi to get revenge on him. EJ then remarks that it’s more like the other way around. Stefan asks what the hell that means.

Kayla asks Steve what happened. Steve calls it a long story about him against the garbage disposal and explains that he almost got his wedding ring caught. Kayla asks why he didn’t take it off first. Steve responds that he’s a proudly married man that doesn’t like taking it off which Kayla calls very sweet.

“Abigail” tells Mark that she will call him back and hangs up. She introduces herself to Stephanie, who informs her that she is her cousin. Stephanie says she probably should’ve called first but “Abigail” says it’s fine. Stephanie adds that she didn’t mean to interrupt her call as it sounded pretty important since she was talking about the next steps in her plan.

Kayla tells Steve that Stephanie is lucky to have a brave papa like him. Steve comments that he wouldn’t have to make plumbing house calls if she didn’t move out. Kayla jokes that he would’ve been happy to have her live with them forever. Steve talks about not even knowing what a family was until he had Kayla and now seeing what Jack and Jennifer are going through with Abigail makes him want to hold his kids close and never let go. Kayla says she feels the same way.

“Abigail” claims to Stephanie that she was just talking to her doctor about her treatment plan and figuring out the next steps. Stephanie asks if there’s something they can do to help get her memory back. “Abigail” says she hopes so. Stephanie informs her that Kayla is her mom. “Abigail” remembers Kayla saying she was her aunt. Stephanie knows it’s a lot to keep track of. She talks about finding out everyone is connected to someone else in town. Stephanie explains that Steve is Jack’s brother. “Abigail” responds that it’s not the only connection they have since Stephanie moved in with her husband after they thought she was dead.

Chad tells Leo that things with Abigail are fine. Leo mocks that, feeling fine is boring. Chad says he gets his point and he’s thrilled that Abigail is back but she looks different and doesn’t remember anything about her life other than Clyde stabbing her. Chad adds that she doesn’t remember him or the kids but Stephanie is going to see her so they hope seeing familiar faces will bring back memories. Leo asks if she doesn’t have to remember anything since he’d prefer she not remember that he stole her jewelry or that she was once on his revenge list. Chad tells him not to revel in her amnesia and that he would love for her to get it all back. Leo says that’s fair enough. Chad asks if he wants to know who is on his revenge list. Leo hopes it’s not him. Chad says not at the moment and that it’s Clyde Weston and everyone else who helped keep Abigail from them.

Aaron returns to Salem and goes to the hospital to see his brother, Mark. Mark comments on Aaron spending camp impersonating Tate and thought he was going to call him when his flight landed. Aaron says he took a cab and figured that Mark would be pretty pissed which Mark confirms. Aaron apologizes for lying to him and explains that Tate asked him to help so he and Holly could spend the summer together. Aaron talks about receiving training that could go to a college scholarship. Mark asks what will happen when Brady asks to be reimbursed now that he knows he paid for Aaron to go. Aaron remarks that Brady is rolling in money and wouldn’t miss it but then declares that he will figure out a way to pay him back. Mark is glad to hear him say that but tells him to wait until Brady reaches out to him because he has more important things going on.

Stefan tells Gabi that he just spoke to “Abigail”, who encouraged him not to give up and to keep fighting for them. Stefan says his idea was to come apologize again for hurting Gabi and tell her again that he still loves her and that he knows she still loves him. Stefan asks if they can go somewhere and talk. Gabi agrees to but Stefan sees EJ trying to kick Gabi’s clothes under the bed. Stefan then yells at Gabi, questioning if those are her clothes on the floor.

Stephanie tells “Abigail” that she didn’t realize Chad told her about them. “Abigail” remarks that the bombshells just keep coming. Stephanie apologizes as she knows that must have been really upsetting to hear. Stephanie assures her that Chad never stopped loving Abigail and it was so difficult for him to move on. “Abigail” stops her and says she doesn’t have to explain, understanding they thought she was gone and if she was, she would’ve wanted Chad to move on and find happiness. Stephanie says that Chad never found it without her. “Abigail” asks about them moving in together. Stephanie says they gave it a try, but in the end, Chad’s feelings for Abigail are why they didn’t work out. Stephanie insists they are just friends now and that’s all they will ever be. Stephanie adds that Chad’s the reason she is here since he said she should come see her. “Abigail” asks how Chad seemed. Stephanie admits he’s not great as it’s difficult for him to have her so close but so far. “Abigail” says she wishes it didn’t have to be this way. Stephanie explains that Chad thought her coming to see her would help jog some memories loose. Stephanie talks about how they were really close when they were younger and jokes about knowing Abigail’s secrets.

Kayla tells Steve that she spoke with Jennifer this morning. Steve asks if she’s doing any better. Kayla says not really as she’s torturing herself since she’s the only person who can’t accept that this person is Abigail. Steve asks if Jennifer believes it. Kayla says that Jennifer feels in her heart that she would recognize her own daughter. Steve feels it’s a defense mechanism. Kayla guesses that Jennifer is so afraid of losing her again that she’s afraid to accept it. Steve admits he hates to say it but it’s not like DNA tests have never been wrong at University Hospital. Kayla says she knows but she was there, took the swab, and brought it to the lab. Kayla mentions the only other person involved in this is Mark and she trusts him completely.

Aaron is shocked to learn that Brady is in jail and worries about Tate. Mark brings up Sarah, who was run over and left for dead on the side of the road. Aaron says he’s sorry that happened. Mark mentions that Sarah had just been married and is a mom too, while now her whole life is upended and she may never walk again. Aaron guesses that’s not the only reason he’s taking it that hard. Mark asks what he means. Aaron says when he hears about people in a car accident, he can’t help but think about their parents and it feels like reliving it all over again.

Leo asks Chad if he has any leads on Clyde and “Abigail” or who was holding her in Poplar Bluff. Chad says not yet. Leo asks if he has any idea why. Chad says he’s asking a lot of questions. Leo blames being a journalist. Chad says it’s fine, he just doesn’t have any answers yet. Leo then asks Chad if he’s planning on attending Stephanie’s memorial service for Everett now that his ashes have been released to her. Chad says he was just with Stephanie and she didn’t say anything. Leo is sure she’ll reach back out but points out that there won’t be a lot of people attending since Everett only knew Stephanie, them, and his friend Connie. Chad asks who Connie is. Leo says he never mentioned her to him either. Chad questions how he knows all of this. Leo explains that he happened to go by Stephanie’s right after Jada left, to go over his press release. Chad argues that he’s supposed to go over press releases with him. Leo then reveals it’s not for the Spectator but for his new job, so Chad questions if he’s leaving the paper. Leo responds that this is what he was hoping to discuss with him.

Stefan questions Gabi sleeping with EJ last night. EJ tells Stefan to take it easy. Stefan demands an answer from Gabi. Gabi then admits that she slept with EJ. Stefan calls EJ a son of a bitch and punches him.

Leo guesses Chad hasn’t heard that he’s been named the new head writer of Body and Soul. Chad admits he hasn’t but congratulates him. Leo calls it an amazing opportunity and a dream come true. Chad asks if that means he will be stepping away from Lady Whistleblower. Leo says he originally planned to do both, but now that he’s in the thick of it and he’s drowning having to deal with the actors and write six episodes a week with no days off or hiatuses. Leo says he only gets one week a year off and he’s grateful for the opportunity but admits the show is taking over his life. Chad asks if he needs a find a successor then to his gossip column. Leo thinks that might be best. Chad admits that he’s sorry to see Leo go as he mostly liked working with him. Leo tells Chad that he might see a storyline on Body and Soul that seems familiar based on is she the hero’s dead wife or not, but Chad is not on board with it.

Stephanie tells “Abigail” about being a racecar driver in the past. Stephanie talks about how Abigail always looked out for her and calls her the best cousin and friend one could’ve asked for. “Abigail” says she’s sorry but is sure she would feel the same if she could remember. Stephanie says she’s sure she feels really lost and lonely right now. Stephanie declares that memory or not, she’d still like to be her friend even if they are starting from scratch. “Abigail” says she’d like that too as they hug.

Mark tells Aaron that he has been thinking a lot about their parents lately and says they’d be so proud of Aaron in his senior year. Mark encourages that Aaron is a good kid with his heart in the right place. Aaron credits having a very cool older brother to look after him. Aaron apologizes for letting him down and doubts that Mark did anything so stupid when he was his age. Mark responds that he’d be surprised.

EJ screams at Stefan that he’s going to regret doing that as Gabi gets in between them to keep them apart. Stefan asks if EJ is proud of himself for taking advantage of his wife to hurt him. Gabi tells Stefan that nobody took advantage of her as she knew exactly what she was doing. Stefan tells Gabi not to defend EJ. Gabi responds that she’s telling the truth that she seduced EJ. Stefan questions why when she hates his guts. Gabi shouts that she hated Stefan’s even more and she wanted to get back at him for sleeping with Ava. Gabi asks what would hurt worse than knowing she slept with the brother that he despises. EJ goes to get himself some ice. Stefan questions Gabi setting out to inflict maximum damage on him and says that she succeeded admirably. Stefan asks if she’s happy now.

Steve asks Kayla if she thinks Abigail will ever get her memory back. Kayla wishes she knew but says there’s no way of telling so all they can do is be supportive of her and Chad and try not to put any pressure on her. Steve says she must be overwhelmed. Kayla hoped that being in the presence of friend and family would make a difference, but if not, she is going to suggest sessions with Marlena. Steve talks about when he didn’t know who he was and how he was afraid to remember, but feels like a fool for wasting one second with her. Kayla responds that she got him back and that’s all that matters as they kiss.

Aaron questions Mark as to what bad decisions he could possibly have ever made. Mark responds that he’s made some legit bad decisions. Aaron asks how bad they could possibly have been. Mark repeats that he’d be surprised. Aaron decides to believe him but remains unsure what bad decisions he possibly could have made. Aaron supposes now would be a bad time to ask him to sign off on his physical sports form. Mark says he actually needs to do the exam. Aaron guesses tampering with medical stuff could get him fired. Mark offers to recommend a colleague but Aaron says he’ll take care of it. Mark tells Aaron that he’ll see him at home and he’s glad to have him back.

Chad tells Leo that he should’ve asked for his permission before using his wife’s life story. Leo argues that it’s only loosely based on her and points out that it’s not like the amnesia angle hasn’t been done on soap operas before. Chad tells Leo that the problem is if they do a DNA test, you get the answer, so questions where the suspense is. Leo argues that in the soap world, a DNA test is barely worth the paper it’s printed on since the doctor could be on the take. Chad argues that his life isn’t a soap opera and he’s got his wife back. Leo tells Chad that’s good as he doesn’t want to see him go through any more trauma since he’s suffered enough. Chad says he can never tell when he’s being serious. Leo assures that he means it and admits he loves drama, but also a happy ending and he hopes that Chad and Abigail get theirs.

Stephanie suggests to “Abigail” that they grab dinner sometime. “Abigail” says it would be great to get out of the house and mix things up a little. EJ walks in and greets Stephanie, saying not to mind him as he’s just getting ice for his lip. After EJ exits, “Abigail” wonders whose fist EJ ran in to. Stephanie comments on there always being something going on at the DiMera Mansion and remarks that she’s sure whatever happened, EJ deserved it. “Abigail” questions her not being a fan. Stephanie then informs her that EJ once kidnapped her and stuffed her in a morgue drawer so she can draw her own conclusions. “Abigail” questions how she ended up sleeping with him. Stephanie tells her that she came to her senses pretty quickly. Stephanie questions if “Abigail” is sure she wants to stay here, pointing out that she could always move in with her. “Abigail” calls that really generous but assures that she’s fine here. “Abigail” then gets a text from Mark, telling her to meet him in the park as soon as she can get away. Stephanie asks if everything is okay. “Abigail” says she just has something to care of. She thanks Stephanie for coming by. Stephanie says she’ll see her soon as “Abigail” then exits the mansion.

Stefan tells Gabi that he went to her room last night and knocked on her door to plead with her to help him find some way to work this out, only there was no response because she was in EJ’s bed. Stefan knew Gabi could be cold but argues that he made one stupid, drunken mistake while this was calculated and pre-meditated which Gabi admits. Stefan complains that he’s been killing himself trying to figure out ways to make this up to her or find some way for her to forgive him, but then she goes and does this. Stefan calls it a horrible, self-destructive thing that she can never take back or undo. Gabi asks if that means he’s given up fighting for them. Stefan confirms that’s exactly what it means. Gabi tells Stefan that when she woke up in EJ’s bed this morning, she actually had regrets and thought maybe she was being too hard on Stefan and maybe it was a mistake to punish him as maybe she still loved him. Gabi admits that for a second, she thought about lying and not telling him about her and EJ, just like Stefan lied to her about Ava, but that would make her just as guilty as he is. Gabi declares that she’s glad that fate had him walk in to remind her what a total ass he is. Gabi adds that for the record, EJ is better in bed than he is, right as EJ walks back in to the room with a smile. Stefan tells them that they deserve each other and walks out. EJ reaches out to Gabi to ask if she’s alright but she pulls away and says not to touch her as she holds back tears.

Stephanie comes home and jokes about Steve and Kayla hooking up in her living room. Kayla says they were just leaving. Steve adds that her garbage disposal is fixed. Stephanie calls them the best. Kayla wants a family dinner on the calendar. Stephanie mentions just seeing “Abigail” and suggests they all do dinner together. Steve asks how she seemed. Stephanie says she was okay but didn’t trigger any memories. Stephanie is glad that Kayla is working on a treatment plan with “Abigail”. Kayla asks what she means. Stephanie responds that “Abigail” was on the phone with Kayla when she got there, talking about the next steps in her plan. Kayla informs Stephanie that she didn’t talk to Abigail today which Stephanie calls strange because she definitely said she was talking to her, leaving Steve confused.

“Abigail” meets Mark in the park and says she’s sorry she had to hang up so fast since Stephanie walked in. She assures that she didn’t hear anything and was able to cover. Mark asks why she was there. “Abigail” explains that Chad sent her in hopes that she could jog her memory with heartwarming tales from her past. “Abigail” admits that Stephanie is really sweet and worries that this is all becoming a little hot as Mark hugs her.

Chad thanks Leo for his well wishes. Leo calls him a great guy and says he deserves to be happy after everything he’s been through. Chad comments on them coming a long way. Leo says he’s a romantic at heart, so if he can’t be lucky with love, he hopes Chad can. Chad encourages him not to give up. Leo talks about how things have been since Dimitri and how he almost hooked up with one guy but didn’t. Leo adds that the only guy he’s been interested in was Mark, but guesses he turned out not to be gay. Leo mentions that he overheard Mark on the phone at the hospital and he said he was talking to his girlfriend. Chad says he’s sorry for the tough break. THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Someone call a plumber?

[chuckles]

Well, don’t you laugh at me. You’re never gonna let me live this down, are you, Sweetness?

Nope, never.

[laughs] Not one day.

[sighs]

[chuckles]

“Get out of my sight, you bastard.” Or, “You lowly bastard, away with you. Bug off.”

Excuse me?

Oh, sorry. I was just talking to myself.

Uh-huh.

Chadwick, it’s good to see you. You haven’t been around the office much lately, understandably. Although now that I think about it, neither have I. How are things?

They’re OK. Thanks.

Huh.

What, huh?

No, it’s just… I figured a guy whose wife just came back from the dead would be a lot happier than you are right now. What gives?

[light music]

[siren wailing] – Mark, hi. It’s me.

Hey. How goes it?

[sighs] It’s going pretty well, actually. Last night, I was able to convince Chad to move back to his house with the kids.

Great.

[dramatic music]

Yeah, it’s a relief to not have him hovering all the time. And now that I can breathe, I think we need to figure out what the next steps of our plan are.

Yeah, I was thinking–

I don’t know why I’m suddenly getting cold feet. I want to get back at Stefan. I really do.

Well…

[sighs] You don’t have to make a decision right away. Think it through. Because once the cat’s out of the bag, there’s no going back.

Why are you being so nice about this?

I suppose because… I’ve recently had my own heart broken, and I was angry but also hurt. And I know I would do anything to make my pain go away… even if it meant swallowing my own pride.

[knock at door, door clicks open]

Hey, EJ, have you seen–

Gabi?

Didn’t expect to find you in here.

Look, Stefan, we were just–

No, no, I know exactly what was going on.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Stefan, I–

No, no, no. I think I know exactly why EJ invited you into his lair.

Excuse me, my lair?

Shut the hell up. He probably offered you a sympathetic ear and then–and then said something to the effect of, “Oh, I just had my heart broken too,” right? And then he gave you his robe, clearly, to put on over your PJs. I mean–

Abigail took mine, so I just–

I guess I shouldn’t really be surprised that EJ is here for you, because he has made such a public showing of where he stands on our marital issues.

Marital issues?

Stay the hell out of this! He is taking advantage of you. He is taking advantage of you, and he’s trying to use you to get revenge on me.

[dramatic music]

More like the other way around.

The hell does that mean?

OK, she’s all fixed.

[chuckles] You want to tell me what happened?

Well, it’s a long, intense story about man against fate, man against himself, man against his daughter’s garbage disposal. You see, the wrench broke, and then my hand got caught.

And how did that happen?

Well, must have been my wedding ring.

Well, why didn’t you take it off first?

Well, I reached in there, and it got caught on something. And besides, I’m a proudly married man. You know I don’t like to take it off.

That’s very sweet but not very prudent, considering you almost got swallowed up by a sink.

Oh.

But very sweet.

I’m gonna call you back. I will talk to you soon. OK.

Hi, I’m Abigail.

I know. I’m your cousin Stephanie.

Stephanie, right. Nice to meet you. I mean, I’ve already met you, obviously, but I–

No, I–I understand. And–and I–I should have probably called first.

No. No, it’s fine.

I didn’t mean to interrupt your call.

Oh, you didn’t interrupt anything. I was just finishing up.

OK. It sounded pretty important.

You were talking about the next steps in your plan?

Our daughter is one lucky lady to have a brave papa like you.

[both chuckle]

Well, you know, I wouldn’t have to make plumbing house calls if she hadn’t insisted on moving out.

No, you would have been happy to have her living with us forever, wouldn’t you?

No. Maybe a place right next door.

[laughs] Every girl’s dream.

Well, can you blame me for being overprotective? I didn’t even know what a family was until I had you.

[dramatic music] And now to see what Jack and Jennifer are going through with Abigail…

I just want to hold my kids close and never let them go.

I feel the same way.

I was just talking to my doctor about my treatment plan, figuring out the– the next steps.

Oh. Well, is there something that she thinks they can do to– to help you get your memory back?

Yeah, I hope so.

[chuckles] I think that’s what we’re gonna discuss in the next appointment, so… Dr. Johnson’s awesome.

Well, I think she’s pretty awesome too. She’s my mom.

Oh, yes, that’s right. She told me she was my aunt. And since you’re my cousin–

No, it’s a lot to keep track of, I’m sure.

Well, it’s just, I feel like every time I meet someone new, I find out they’re connected to someone else in town.

Yeah, yeah, you got that right.

Wow, OK. OK, so–so we’re first cousins, right?

Yes, so my dad, Steve, is your dad’s brother.

Steve and Jack.

Right.

OK. But that’s– that’s not the only connection we have, is it?

What do you mean?

Well… you did move in with my husband and my two kids after you thought I was dead, right?

Things with Abby are–are–are fine.

“Fine”? There’s a boring word. “How’s the chicken, sir?” “Fine, thanks.” “Hey, Joe, how’s the hip holding up?” “Fine, Jim. How’s the knee?”

I get your point, Leo.

[light music] Look, I’m obviously thrilled that Abby’s back, but what do you want me to say? You know, she– she had plastic surgery. She looks different. She doesn’t remember anything about her life.

Still? Nothing at all?

Well, the other night, she remembered Clyde Weston stabbing her.

Oh, God. Of all the things.

I know. She doesn’t remember me. She doesn’t remember the kids. Stephanie’s actually going over to talk to her. We hope that, you know, seeing some familiar faces will–will help bring back some of her memories.

Uh-huh, uh-huh. But it’s not like she has to remember everything, does she?

What are you getting at, Leo?

Well, I’m just saying, to the extent that you have any control over the situation, it would be nice if she didn’t remember that I kind of sort of outed you as gay and published compromising photos of you in the paper, also that I stole her jewelry when she died, although, obviously, she wouldn’t remember that.

Look, I’d prefer you not revel in my wife’s amnesia.

What? I am not reveling, not at all. I am sorry that she only remembers being murdered– well, temporarily murdered. I’m just saying, it would be nice if she didn’t remember that once upon a time, she ended up on my revenge list.

Well, I would love for her to get it all back, Leo.

Well, that’s fair enough.

Would you like to know who’s on my revenge list?

It isn’t me, is it?

Not at the moment, no. It’s Clyde Weston and everyone else who helped keep Abigail from us.

Hey.

Hey.

Look who it is. The prodigal brother returns from his almost successful impersonation of Tate Black at lacrosse camp.

Very–very funny.

Thought you were gonna call me when your flight landed.

OK, well, I took a cab. I knew you’d be at work, and honestly, I figured you’d be pretty pissed at me.

You figured right.

[sighs] Look, I’m sorry that I lied to you, OK? But Tate asked me to help him and Holly so they could spend the rest of the summer together.

Oh, so it was totally selfless on your part?

No. No, of course not, OK? But, ugh, Tate offered me free tuition to a world-class lacrosse camp, OK? And I received training, training that could go towards an actual, like, college scholarship.

Like the scholarship you told me you got for this camp? What–what happens when Tate’s dad asks for reimbursement now that he knows that he paid for you to go?

Well, the guy’s, like, rolling in money, so you really think he’s gonna miss it?

[dramatic music] Fine. Fine. OK, you’re right. I don’t want to be that kind of person. I will figure out a way to pay him back.

Glad to hear you say that. But you can wait till Brady reaches out to you. I think he has more important things on his mind right now.

Look, I was only suggesting that Gabi–

I don’t give a damn what you’re suggesting. Gabi, look, I just spoke with Abigail, OK? She encouraged me to never give up, to keep fighting for us, not that I need the encouragement. But my idea was to come back up here and to again apologize for hurting you and again tell you that I still love you and that I know you still love me. Can we please go somewhere and talk, just the two of us?

OK.

[tense music]

Are those your clothes on the floor?

[yelling] Are those your clothes on the floor?

I–I didn’t realize–

That Chad told me about the two of you, that Chad decided to… get involved with my cousin after I “died”? I know, the bombshells just keep on coming.

I’m sorry. I know that must have been very upsetting to hear. But you should know that he never stopped loving you. It was so difficult for him to try to move on after he thought he’d lost you. And if he had any idea that you were still out there–

OK, Stephanie, Stephanie, wait. Just–you don’t have to explain. You thought I was gone. And truth is, if I was, I– I would have wanted him to move on and find happiness, you know?

Yeah, but you should know that he never did find it without you.

But the two of you moved in together.

[dramatic music]

We gave it a try. But in the end, his feelings for you were the reason that we didn’t work out.

Oh. I see.

Chad and I are just friends now. That is all we’ll ever be. In fact, he’s the reason why I’m here.

Well, what do you mean?

Well, I ran into him earlier, and… he said that I should come and see you.

How did he seem?

Not great, to be honest. I think it’s difficult for him to have you so close and yet so far.

Yeah. Believe me, I wish this didn’t have to be this way.

Right. Well, anyway, he thought my coming here to see you would help jar some memories loose.

Oh, well, yeah, you’ve known me for a long time, haven’t you?

Yeah. Yeah, we were really close when we were younger.

I know some of your deepest, darkest youthful secrets.

Ooh. Well, do tell.

[chuckles]

Ah, how about something warm?

Aw. Think I deserve a cold one after that brilliant plumbing repair.

Little early for that, isn’t it?

You’re no fun.

Ah.

I take it back. You’re a lot of fun, Sweetness.

Yeah, don’t you forget it. Listen, on a completely different note, I spoke with Jennifer this morning.

She doing any better?

Not really. She’s torturing herself that she’s the only one that can’t accept that this person is Abigail.

But she does believe it’s her, doesn’t she?

Well, maybe intellectually. But in her heart of hearts, she just thinks that she would know her own daughter, that she would recognize that this person is Abigail.

Sounds like a defense mechanism.

Yeah. I think she’s so afraid of losing Abigail again that she’s refusing to let herself believe that Abigail is back.

[sighs]

Well, I hate to say it, but… it’s not like DNA tests have never been wrong at University Hospital.

I know. But I was there. I was the one that took the swab. I brought it to the lab. The only other person that’s involved in this is Dr. Greene, and I trust him completely.

Tate’s dad is in jail? Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Poor Tate.

Poor Tate? What about my friend and colleague Sarah, whom he ran over and left for dead on the side of the road?

[sighs] Oh, my God, I’m sorry. I’m sorry that happened to Dr. Horton.

Yeah, Kiriakis.

What?

Sarah had just been married. And she’s a mom too. She has a little girl. And now her whole life has been upended, and she may never walk again.

That’s not the only reason you’re taking it that hard, huh?

What do you mean?

I just know that when I hear about other people involved in a car accident, I can’t help but think about what happened to Mom and Dad. So…be like reliving it all over again.

Do you have any leads on how Clyde kept Abigail alive or who was holding her at Poplar Bluff?

Not yet.

Do you have any idea why?

You’re asking a lot of questions.

I’m sorry. It comes with the territory, being a journalist. And Everett drilled into me– who, what, when?

[light music]

It’s fine. I just don’t have any of the answers yet.

Speaking of Everett, are you planning on attending the service?

What service?

Well, Stephanie said she’s planning some sort of memorial now that his ashes have been released to her.

I was just with Stephanie. She didn’t say anything.

Oh. Well, I don’t think she’s got all the details nailed down yet. I’m sure she’ll reach back out. But it’s not exactly like this memorial is going to be a cast of thousands, right? I mean, who did Everett even know here in Salem? There’s Steph, his coworkers at “The Spectator,” aka us, his friend Connie.

Who’s Connie?

I know, he never mentioned her to me either.

How do you know all of this?

Well, I happened to pop by Steph’s place with my press release right after Jada had dropped off the urn.

You’re supposed to run your press releases by me.

Well, it isn’t for “The Spectator.” It’s for my new job.

Are you leaving the paper?

[sighs] Well, Chadwick… this is what I was hoping to discuss with you.

Well, my clothes–

Are on the floor because you slept with him last night.

[tense music] Didn’t you? You spent the night in this bed.

Take it easy, brother.

Answer me. Did you or did you not sleep with my brother?

Yes.

You–

You…son…of a bitch!

[grunts]

Well, I gather you haven’t heard, but I… have been named the new head writer of “Body & Soul.”

[light music]

[clears throat] No, I haven’t. And I’m an investor, but I leave all the decisions up to Kate and Abe. Congratulations, Leo.

Thank you, Chadwick. It’s an amazing opportunity. It’s a dream come true, truly.

So–so does that mean you’re gonna be stepping away from Lady Whistleblower?

Well, you know, originally my plan was to do both. But now that I’m in the thick of it, I’m–I’m drowning here. Not only do I have to deal with demanding actors, but I have to write six episodes a week every week. There are no reruns, no hiatuses, not even a snow day.

Why would you get a snow day?

I’m just saying my point is, I get one week off a year, one week. Don’t get me wrong. I am grateful for the opportunity. But the show is taking over my whole life.

OK, so do I need to find a successor to Lady Whistleblower or not?

Well, maybe I can pen the occasional guest column, but I think that might be best.

[sighs] Well, I– I’m sorry to see you go, Leo. I liked working with you, mostly.

[chuckles] Chadwick, back at you. And listen, while we’re on the subject, if you happen to check out “Body & Soul” and come across a storyline that might seem a teensy bit familiar–

No.

No, no, no, no.

No, no, no, no.

It is a great story. Mystery woman comes to town– beautiful, new face, no memory. Now, is she really our hero’s dead wife, or–or…isn’t she?

Mm-mm.

Mm-hmm.

Mm-mm.

Yes.

[laughter]

Wait, wait. You were a race car driver?

I was, me and Danica Patrick, not that you know who that is.

I mean, that’s pretty badass.

Ah, feels like another lifetime.

Mm.

I’m in PR now.

Oh, wow.

Mm-hmm. But anyway, there was this one race where I had this really bad crash, and I was in the hospital. And I was all upset because my boyfriend hadn’t come to visit me yet. But you took charge of the situation. You even bought a gift for Max to bring me so that I wouldn’t be disappointed.

Oh. I’m imagining that you weren’t supposed to find that out.

No, no.

[laughter] And Max and I, we obviously weren’t meant to be. But… you always looked out for me. You were the best cousin I ever could have asked for…

[chuckles]

And the best friend.

[dramatic music]

[sighs] I’m sorry. I–

If I could remember, I’m sure I would feel the same way too.

Oh, Abigail.

I’m sure you feel just really lost and lonely right now.

Yeah.

[chuckles] Yeah, you could say that.

Well, you know what? Memory or no memory, I’d still like to be your friend, even if we’re starting from scratch.

[chuckles] I’d like that too.

Can I give you a hug?

Mm.

OK.

I’ve been thinking a lot about Mom and Dad lately, especially now that it’s your senior year. They would be so proud.

[scoffs] I don’t think they’d be so proud of me right now.

Hey, you’re a good kid, Aaron. Your heart’s always in the right place.

[sighs] Yeah, well, I’ve had a very cool older brother to look after me. And I know–I know it’s really hard to look after me and Felicity on your own, and I am sorry that I let you down.

I doubt you did anything this stupid when you were my age.

You’d be surprised.

[groans] Oh, you are going to regret you did that!

Stop, both of you!

Yeah, you proud of yourself? Are you proud of yourself, taking advantage of my wife to hurt me?

Nobody took advantage of me. I knew exactly what I was doing.

Do not defend this scum!

I’m telling the truth. I seduced him.

What?

Why? You hate his guts.

I hated yours even more.

I wanted to get back at you for sleeping with Ava.

And what would hurt worse than knowing that I’d slept with the brother you despise?

So that’s what this is? Tit for tat?

So to speak.

Shut the hell up!

[chuckles] I’m gonna go get some ice.

So you set out… to inflict maximum damage…

On me, on us.

And you succeeded… admirably.

You happy now?

If you had to predict, do you think Abigail will ever get her memory back?

I wish I knew. But there’s no way of telling. All we can do is be supportive of her and Chad and… try not to put any pressure on her.

She must be overwhelmed, huh?

Yeah, I think she is. You know, I was really hoping that if she was in the home environment, you know, surrounded by friends and family, that it would make a difference. But if it doesn’t, I’m gonna suggest that she has a couple sessions with Marlena.

When I didn’t know who I was, I think I was afraid to remember.

[dramatic music] What a fool I was to waste one second without you.

I got you back, and that’s all that matters.

Whoa. What bad decisions could you have possibly ever made, Mr. Hopkins Medical, valedictorian, the Eagle Scouts? I mean, what, did you forget a number pencil at the SATs? Oh, my God, did you jaywalk?

I’ve made some legit bad decisions.

Right, but, like, how bad could they possibly have been?

Like I said, you’d be surprised.

[laughs] OK, OK. I’ll believe you for now, though I’m not sure what bad decisions you possibly could have made. But I suppose now would be a bad time to ask you to sign off on my physical sports forms.

Yeah. Sorry, no, not gonna happen. You actually need to do the exam.

Ugh, fine, fine. I guess tampering with medical stuff could get you fired.

Maybe one of my colleagues has an opening right now. Should I ask?

No, no, it’s fine. I’ll just make an appointment. Can’t wait to turn my head and cough.

I’ll see you at home.

OK.

Glad to have you back, kid.

Me too.

You should have asked before using my wife’s life story, Leo.

Like I said, it’s only loosely based on her story. And it’s not as though the amnesia angle hasn’t been done on soaps before.

OK, guess what. There’s a problem with your pitch. You do a DNA test, and you get your answer.

So?

So? What do you mean, so? We know it’s Abigail. Where’s the suspense?

OK, Mr. Logic. In the soap world, a DNA test is worth about as much as a marriage certificate, barely worth the paper it’s printed on. The doctor could be on the take.

My life isn’t a soap opera, OK? I got my wife back.

Good. That’s good. I don’t want to see you go through any more trauma. You’ve suffered enough.

OK, I can never tell if you’re even being serious.

I mean that.

Thank you. I appreciate that, Leo.

Good, because I mean it.

[light music] You know I love drama, but I also love a happy ending. And I really want you and Abigail to have yours.

Well, do you think we could grab dinner sometime?

Oh, that’d be great.

[chuckles] Be nice to get out of this house, mix things up a little.

Mm.

Ah. Hi, Stephanie.

Hello, EJ.

Don’t mind me. Just getting some ice for my rapidly swelling lip. Ladies.

I wonder whose fist he ran into.

Just another day in the DiMera manor. But whatever happened, I’m sure he deserved it.

Oh, not a fan?

EJ once had me kidnapped and stuffed into a morgue drawer, so draw your own conclusions.

My God.

Mm-hmm.

How did I end up sleeping with that guy?

Well, if it’s any consolation, you came to your senses pretty quickly.

[sighs]

Are you sure you want to stay here? I mean, you could always move in with me. I know I’m basically a stranger, but–

Oh, that’s really generous of you, but I’m– I’m OK. I’m fine here.

OK.

[phone beeps]

Oh.

[sighs]

[dramatic music]

Is everything OK?

Yeah. Just something I kind of have to take care of, if you don’t mind excusing me.

Yeah.

Thank you so much for coming by.

Of course. I’ll see you soon.

OK.

[chuckles] Bye.

Bye.

I went to your room last night. And I– I knocked on your door. And I pleaded with you… to help me find some way to work this out.

Only there was no response, because you weren’t in there. You were in here… in his bed.

I mean, my God, Gabi. I knew you could be cold, but–

I made one stupid, drunken mistake, but this– this is… calculated. Wasn’t it? Premeditated.

Yes, it was.

God Almighty.

And to think… I have been killing myself trying to figure out ways I can make this up to you…

Trying to find some way for you to forgive me.

Then you go and do this…

This horrible, self-destructive thing, this thing that you can never take back. It can never be undone.

So does that mean that you’ve given up fighting for us?

That’s exactly what it means.

You know, when I woke up in EJ’s bed this morning, I actually had regrets.

[dramatic music] I thought… maybe I’m being too hard on Stefan. Maybe it’s a mistake to punish him. Maybe–

Maybe I still love him.

For a hot second, I thought about lying and not telling you about me and EJ just like you lied to me about Ava.

But that would make me just as guilty as you are.

So I’m glad that fate had you walk in and remind me what a total ass you are.

And for the record, your brother is better in bed than you are.

You two deserve each other.

You all right?

Don’t touch me.

Fine.

[clears throat]

[crying]

Mm! Ooh!

Hello, ?

Aah!

Yes, it’s an emergency. My parents are hooking up in my living room.

Ah, we were just leaving. I’m sorry, you.

Oh, right. Right, right, right.

And by the way, Little Sweetness, your garbage disposal is fixed.

You guys are the best.

We are, aren’t we?

Well, sometimes. Listen, I want us to get a family dinner on the calendar.

Oh, I would love that. And actually, I just went to go see Abigail, so maybe we could all do dinner together.

That would be great.

How’d she seem?

OK. I–I tried to tell her some stories about the good old days but didn’t trigger any memories, unfortunately.

That’s not surprising.

Yeah. But I’m really glad that you’re working on a treatment plan with her.

What do you mean?

Well, she was on the phone with you when I got there, and she said that you were talking about the next steps in the plan.

I didn’t talk to Abigail today.

That’s strange. She said she was definitely talking to you.

Hmm.

Hey. Sorry I had to hang up so fast.

Someone walked in?

Yeah, Abigail’s cousin Stephanie.

Did she hear anything?

Well, a little bit, but I was able to cover.

Why was she there?

Chad sent her, hoping to jog my memory with heartwarming tales from my past life, previous life, whatever.

Fun. Oh, God.

Yeah, the only thing is, she’s really sweet. She’s really sweet, and this is all becoming a lot, Mark.

[sighs]

OK, well, thank you for your well wishes, Leo.

You’re a great guy, Chadwick. You deserve to be happy. Your children deserve to be happy, especially after everything you’ve been through.

[light music]

Look at us. Came a long way, didn’t we?

We have. And, you know, I truly am a romantic at heart. If I can’t be lucky in love, at least you can be.

I hope you don’t give up.

Oh, I don’t know. Ever since Dimitri, my heart is just not in it. I almost hooked up with this one guy, but we had zero chemistry whatsoever. To be honest, the only person I’ve had any interest in is this doctor at the hospital, Mark Greene.

Mm, doctor.

No.

That sounds promising.

Turns out, he wasn’t gay, I guess.

What do you mean, you guess?

I overheard him talking on the phone with someone at the hospital. He said it was his girlfriend.

Well, that’s a tough break. I’m sorry.

Yeah, it is a tough break, especially if you saw what he looked like without his shirt on. Well, whoever she is, she’s very lucky.

[sighs]

You OK?

Yes, I’m fine. It’s just, ugh, with Chad’s relatives and Abigail’s relatives, I’m inundated with fake family.

[dramatic music]

Well, just remember, when the going gets tough, your real family’s here for you.

Thanks, bro.

Welcome, sis.

Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph

Kate tells Abe about Roman allowing them to use the Brady Pub for filming and that he’s going to talk to Kayla about using the nurse’s station as well. Abe informs Kate that he’s left messages for Johnny and Chanel, hoping that they would get back to him. Kate asks if this was what Paulina was talking about in regards to causing problems for the show. Abe clarifies that it’s more like problems in their personal lives as he forgot to inform Chanel of her acting partner.

At the Body and Soul office, Johnny is surprised to learn that Alex is auditioning for the role of Arrow. Alex mentions that he was up all night rehearsing his lines. Chanel questions him being an actor. Alex admits it never crossed his mind until Abe suggested he auditioned. Chanel questions this being Abe’s idea. Alex says that Abe told him that he told her but guesses he did not which Chanel confirms.

“Abigail” is in the living room of the DiMera Mansion and tells herself to get back in to character as Chad calls. Chad says he just wanted to see if she survived the night at the DiMera Mansion alone. She assures that she’s fine and says she is surrounded by DiMeras. Chad worries about her getting caught in the middle of his family always being at war. She thanks him and says she had a wonderful and peaceful evening last night.

Gabi has a dream of being back in bed with Stefan, but then she wakes up in bed with EJ. Gabi puts on her robe as EJ wakes up and greets her. EJ jokes that before he woke up, he thought what happened between them was just a dream but he guesses not. Gabi confirms that it definitely happened. EJ asks Gabi what now.

Chad asks if “Abigail” has plans for the day. She hoped to catch up more with Gabi over breakfast, but when she knocked on her door, she didn’t answer. Chad offers to come over so they can have breakfast together if Gabi is busy. “Abigail” claims she’s not that hungry and will just grab a yogurt. She encourages him to focus on the kids anyway. Chad mentions they have some back to school shopping to finish up, so he will check in with her later. She thanks him and hangs up. Stefan then enters the living room and greets her, asking how she’s doing as he heard Gabi gave her an earful yesterday. “Abigail” confirms that Gabi told her how she took advantage of her when she was mentally unwell. Stefan explains that Gabi may have been badmouthing him because they are in a bit of a rough patch right now. She asks if he’s saying it’s Gabi’s fault that he’s a creep.

Kate asks if Abe is saying that Johnny and Chanel have something against Alex. Abe points out that Alex did have a part in Chanel and Allie’s breakup. Kate calls that a long time ago and notes that Chanel got over it since she’s happily married to Johnny. Abe says it’s still a sore spot and that Chanel still has some resentment towards Alex, which is why he wanted to cast them together. Kate questions using her real life animosity for the character. Abe notes that Paulina feels their director could have a problem if Johnny gets jealous since Alex is a very attractive guy. Kate doesn’t see how it’d be any worse if Johnny was directing Chanel with any other hot guy. Abe then reveals that any other hot young actor wouldn’t be someone that Chanel had a threesome with which shocks Kate.

Chanel questions if Johnny knew about this. Johnny assures that Abe never told him who his choice was. Alex asks if this is going to be a problem. Chanel says it is because they would be playing love interests and they aren’t exactly getting along. Alex points out that Abe said that would add some spice to their chemistry because he saw them bickering in the town square and said they had sparks. Chanel argues those weren’t romantic sparks but I hate your guts sparks and declares that them working together is not going to fly. Alex thinks she’s being a bit overdramatic and questions her hating his guts as he thought they got along fine until yesterday. Chanel argues that’s because they barely saw each other but then she realized how unremorseful he was for sleeping with her girlfriend. Alex disagrees and says he apologized for hurting her many times after. Alex doesn’t understand her holding this grudge, especially since she married Allie’s brother, feeling that’s enough payback. Chanel argues that her marriage has nothing to do with Allie and questions Abe actually thinking she and Alex would work as a couple. Johnny then reveals that he thinks Abe’s instincts might have been spot on.

Kate is surprised to learn that Allie and Chanel had a three way with Alex. Kate jokes that she never thought she’d be having a conversation with Abe about a threesome. They call it a new world. Kate thinks everyone should do some sexual adventuring as long as all parties are willing. Abe worries that it might be awkward for Johnny. Kate agrees that it could be pretty uncomfortable.

Stephanie goes to see Chad at the Horton house and hopes it’s not a bad time, saying she should’ve called first. Chad says it’s fine and asks what’s up. Stephanie asks if it’s okay if she visits “Abigail”. Chad thinks it’s a great idea. Stephanie brings up all the pressure she must be feeling and says she can’t imagine what it would be like to not remember everybody. Chad says that “Abigail” is stoic and doesn’t like to admit how difficult it is, but he thinks it would be really good for her to see familiar faces as far as getting her memory back. Chad knows Stephanie always puts people at ease. Stephanie brings up how stressful it must be for Chad as well to suddenly have his wife back after all this time. Chad says there are no words and it feels like such a miracle. Chad brings up he and Stephanie’s relationship ending because he still had feelings for Abigail, so he is sure this must be complicated for her too. Stephanie says not to worry about her and feels some part of Chad sensed that Abigail wasn’t really gone. Chad says at the time, he couldn’t let her go as he felt like he was still married to her and now he knows why. Chad adds that he never thanked Stephanie enough for everything she did for him and the kids, helping the kids through a tough time. Stephanie responds that she loves the kids and still treasures the memories of taking care of them. Stephanie asks about Chad spending the night here last night since she heard he was at the DiMera Mansion with “Abigail”. Chad explains that he was, but she asked him to move out.

Stefan admits to “Abigail” that he was a total creep and never should’ve gotten involved with her alter, Gabby. Stefan says it was no excuse, but he didn’t know much at all about dissociative identity disorder when they were involved. Stefan states that just because Gabby gave consent to be with him, doesn’t mean Abigail did. “Abigail” admits it all sounds very complicated. Stefan talks about thinking he was in love and making stupid choices that he will regret for the rest of his life. Stefan adds that Abigail, Chad, and the kids didn’t deserve any of that, so he’s really sorry. “Abigail” senses this isn’t the first time he’s asking for forgiveness for this which he confirms. Stefan says that Abigail eventually forgave him, not that she remembers. “Abigail” says she doesn’t remember anything that happened between them and he seems genuine, so she says she forgives him again. Stefan thanks her and says if only Gabi could do the same thing.

Gabi tells EJ that he doesn’t have to offer her breakfast in bed or anything. EJ says he wasn’t planning on it. Gabi points out that last night had nothing to do with romance or feelings. EJ says it still hasn’t slipped his mind that she destroyed his marriage to Nicole. Gabi adds that EJ sent her to prison for a crime that she didn’t commit and she only let EJ put his grubby paws on her to get back at Stefan for sleeping with Ava. EJ argues that Gabi is the one who seduced him and practically begged him to put his grubby paws all over her. Gabi says his are the last paws she’d ever want on her body, but she knew that sleeping with EJ would hurt Stefan the most. EJ agrees with that and says that once Stefan finds out about their night of passion, he will be absolutely destroyed.

Stephanie asks Chad why “Abigail” wanted him to move out and if they weren’t getting along. Chad says it’s not that, but they are strangers so it’s a little awkward. Chad adds that the kids were asking why he’s not staying here and he’s not ready to tell them the truth since “Abigail” doesn’t even remember them. Stephanie acknowledges that would be very difficult. Chad remarks that “Abigail” just seems like such a different person in her personality and the way she talks. Chad adds that if it wasn’t for the DNA test, he doesn’t know if he would believe it was even her.

“Abigail” tells Stefan that she gets why Gabi won’t forgive him since he cheated on her while she was in prison. Stefan knows how bad it sounds. “Abigail” guesses he regrets that too. Stefan says he does and knows it sounds weak and stupid, but it was a one time drunken mistake with no feelings involved. Stefan adds that Gabi sees it as the ultimate betrayal and he has never seen her this angry. Stefan says they’ve had their fair share of fights as it’s kind of their thing. Stefan feels they are passionate as they would blow up at each other and then make up. “Abigail” suggests maybe they will make up this time too. Stefan doesn’t know since this is a lot worse and she said she wants a divorce. “Abigail” encourages that could change when she cools down and advises Stefan not to give up hope yet.

EJ tells Gabi that as happy as he is to stick it to Stefan, he admits he’s feeling rather unsatisfied which Gabi questions as she remarks he seems pretty satisfied to her. EJ says as far as hate sex goes, last night was quite enjoyable for the both of them, but it didn’t purge Nicole from his heart as the thought of her and Eric living happily ever after in Paris still feels like a kick in the guts. Gabi asks why not take out that pain in Stefan since if he hadn’t told her the truth about Jude, she wouldn’t have been able to expose his lies. EJ questions her not being to blame. Gabi thinks he’d get much more excitement and satisfaction by extracting revenge on Stefan instead of her. EJ agrees and asks what they are waiting for, suggesting they go tell Stefan the big news but Gabi stops him.

Kate thinks they are getting ahead of themselves since they haven’t seen Chanel and Alex audition yet, so maybe they’d only hire one of them or neither of them. Abe says that Johnny was going to record their auditions today so he thought if he could get there first, he could warn them about each other. Kate suggests it’s not too late to do that and offers to go with Abe, adding if they haven’t backed out then maybe they can see them audition live. Abe hopes they can see how great they can be together.

Chanel questions Johnny really thinking that she and Alex make a good couple. Johnny says in real life, hell no, but on screen, he kind of agrees with Abe that there is something intriguing about the dynamic between them. Chanel calls it a trainwreck. Alex agrees and thought maybe he could make it work, but he doesn’t feel like fighting all the time. Johnny argues that some of the best on screen couples in history couldn’t stand each other but sometimes pushing each others’ buttons makes it come alive for the cameras. Chanel questions Johnny wanting this to happen. Johnny says as long as they are both reasonably comfortable with it. Chanel questions him being okay with her playing Alex’s love interest. Johnny admits he’s not thrilled that they have history, but he’s a professional and truly believes that they can make magic together onscreen, so they can put their animosity to good use by putting the passion in to their auditions. Alex asks if Chanel thinks they should give this a try. Abe and Kate arrive. Abe notes that they are still there and in one piece. Chanel asks if Abe had something to tell her. Abe responds that he should’ve broken the news to her about Alex and mentions not knowing about their charged history. Kate points out that Abe did leave them messages which Chanel notes not getting in time. Abe apologizes but does believe that Chanel and Alex will make the perfect Arrow and Faith. Johnny declares they are about to find out because they are all setup for the audition. Johnny asks if they ready. Chanel says sure.

Chad tells Stephanie that he doesn’t know why he’s complaining when he should be grateful that he got his wife back. Chad says he just needs to respect her space. Stephanie feels it’s natural to be impatient and want to be close to her after missing her for so long. Chad says he has to keep it under control and not be so needy. Stephanie understands the love of his life suddenly came back and says not to beat himself up because “Abigail” is so lucky to have him and will realize that very soon.

Stefan questions why “Abigail” would tell him not to lose hope and if Gabi said something to her. She responds that Gabi said she was angry, but she thinks she’s mostly just hurt and focusing on the anger to not deal with still loving him. She asks why she’d be putting tape all over the house or still be there if she only felt apathy towards him instead of just moving out. Stefan responds that her lawyer told her to stay to not lose claim to his possessions. “Abigail” suggests it could be a cover for her true feelings. She says she’s not trying to give him false hope, but he said himself that they always work it out in the end, so she asks why this time would be any different.

Gabi tells EJ that she doesn’t know if it’s the right time to tell Stefan. EJ thought the whole point of them sleeping together was to rub it in Stefan’s face, unless it was just a ploy to get him in bed. EJ doesn’t understand since this was her idea as he thought she hated Stefan’s guts and wanted to punish him for cheating on her. Gabi says she still does. EJ questions why she’s suddenly dragging her feet then. Gabi clarifies that she just wants to make sure it has maximum impact and doesn’t give a damn what EJ thinks. EJ thinks Gabi suddenly changing her mind about punishing Stefan is because deep down, she’s still in love with him.

Johnny films Alex and Chanel’s audition for Body and Soul while Abe and Kate watch along. At the end of the scene, Chanel stops and asks if they don’t really have to do the kiss. Kate explains that Arrow and Faith have a love-hate relationship and they just showed the hate, so now they have to show the love. Abe agrees as they have to know they can do this and sell this love story to the audience. Chanel questions that but Johnny says it’s part of the job. Chanel agrees to try as does Alex. Johnny has them continue the audition from Alex’s last line where he tells her to believe in love. Alex and Chanel then kiss which seems to make Johnny uncomfortable. Johnny then calls for them to cut and end the scene. Chanel asks what they thought. Kate thinks they have a super couple on their hands while Abe congratulates them and declares that they are both hired. Alex thanks Abe. Chanel hugs Johnny and asks if she was really good. Johnny tells her that she was great and that a star was born. Kate compliments Abe on his instincts as she thinks Chanel and Alex will have a lot of fans. Abe responds that he’s not sure Johnny will be one of them.

Stephanie asks Chad if he’s sure that she should go visit “Abigail” and that it wouldn’t add more pressure. Chad encourages that “Abigail” wants to see the people that remembered her and that they always had good memories together. Chad says they have good memories together, not like the other ones she had. Stephanie asks if she remembered something. Chad tells her that she suddenly remembered Clyde attacking her and how that’s the first thing she remembered. Chad wants to be hopeful that it’s just the beginning and she’ll start to remember more. Stephanie says she’s happy to help however she can and that she’s there for Chad and “Abigail” as Chad hugs her.

Stefan thanks “Abigail” for the pep talk. She says she’s just giving him her opinion. Stefan admits it gave him hope. She asks what his plan is then. Stefan guesses he could start by going back upstairs and begging for her forgiveness again and reminding her how great they are together and how strong their love is. “Abigail” says she likes it but notes that she’s not sure Gabi is around since she knocked on her door earlier and she wasn’t there. Stefan wonders where she could be.

Gabi tells EJ that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about as she declares that Stefan sleeping with Ava while she was rotting away in prison killed any love she had for him. EJ suggests they blow the whole thing up then and break his heart like he did to her. Gabi stops him and says she just needs a moment to think. EJ thought she learned something about being ruthless from Sami and Kate. EJ brings up Gabi seeking revenge on Lani by rigging Julie’s heart to explode and gaslighting Abigail in to thinking she was going crazy again, even locking her up in Bayview. Gabi asks what that has to do with anything. EJ says he’s just curious as to why she’s suddenly going soft as he imagines Stefan hurt her more than any of those women since she loved and trusted him, but at her lowest, he was tangled in the sheets with Ava. EJ adds that he would have to think she would want to punish him for eternity and then some. EJ tells Gabi that he gets it as if he had the chance to win back Nicole, he doesn’t think he would pass up that chance. EJ decides that if Gabi changed her mind, he’s fine with that and no one ever has to know about their secret dalliance.

Alex laughs and tells Abe that he didn’t realize how much he wanted the job until he got in front of the camera. Abe calls him a natural. Alex thanks him for believing in him and hopes to make him proud. Abe has no doubt that he and Chanel are going to be huge hits. Alex says that’s if they can put their differences behind them and actually work together.

Johnny and Chanel walk through the town square. Chanel excitedly talks about how she can’t believe this is happening and she’s going to be on TV. Johnny says he knew she could do it. Chanel thanks him. Johnny asks if she’s sure she can work with Alex. Chanel says that it’s like Johnny said, it’s part of the job. Chanel adds that the best part of the job will be getting to work with Johnny and says it will be so fun as they kiss.

Kate runs in to Chad outside of the Brady Pub and they hug. Kate says they haven’t talked since he found “Abigail” and that he must be over the moon. Chad confirms he is and calls it a miracle though not quite perfect, but he’s blessed. Kate talks about first hearing the news and being unsure it was true, admitting she first thought Clyde was lying.

“Abigail” calls Mark and tells him that she was able to convince Chad to move back home to be with the kids.

Stefan then opens the door to ask if EJ has seen Gabi but is surprised to see them together.
