THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[tense music]

Help! Somebody help!

Ava? Hey!

Brady!

Oh, my God. Oh, my God, are you– are you OK?

Yeah.

Are you all right?

I’m fine.

Are you hurt?

I’m fine, I’m fine. I’m so glad to see you.

Thank God. [tense bittersweet music]

God, I can’t believe– [Ava groans] I can’t believe you’ve been here this whole time. I had no idea. I’m sorry. Hey, I’m sorry I didn’t get to you earlier.

No.

You all right?

I’m fine. It’s OK.

It’s good to see you.

[chuckles] I’m so– [smooch] Brady. [tense somber music]

Damn. [Ava groans]

We have some time before Rachel’s therapy appointment.

Yeah, yeah. No, I know. I’m sorry I’m early. I just–I haven’t been sleeping that well.

Well, Rachel’s in the kitchen having breakfast. You want anything?

No. I’m fine, I’m fine.

I don’t think you are, Brady. You miss Ava. [somber music]

Rafe, why won’t you call me back? [suspenseful music]

[chuckles] [phone ringing] Not again. [person moaning on TV]

[people moaning on TV]

This is Rafe Fernandez. I can’t get to my phone right now. Please leave me a message.

[Jada sighs]

[phone ringing] [person moaning on tv]

Come on, girlie. Take the hint already.

[person moaning on TV]

[chuckling] Hey. My phone’s blowing up this morning.

What are you talking about, Feniger?

What I am talking about? I mean, Jada’s been calling me. I mean, it’s probably like the tenth time that she’s called me already. Must want some answers about what happened at the wedding.

I’m sure she does. [clears throat] Well done, by the way. I heard you gave quite the performance as the heartbroken groom.

Oh, yeah, I did. I really sold it.

Well, now that we’ve extricated Ms. Hunter from the commissioner’s office, the next step is to have you take her place.

So now I have to be the top cop?

You don’t want the job?

Well, it’s just, you know, I’ve never really been a 9:00 to 5:00 kind of guy. – Yeah, I gathered that. But rest assured, I will make it very much worth your while.

Well, I’m going to need you to be a little more specific.

And I’m going to need you to trust me. Do we have an understanding? Because I am not stopping now, not when we’re this close to the finish line. [suspenseful music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Help! Somebody help! [Ava shouts] [ominous music] [sighs] It’s you.

Yes. And you’re wasting your breath. No one’s coming for you.

Brady will. I am sure of it. I just had a dream that he came through those doors.

Oh, how nice. But I’m afraid since Brady thinks you’ve flown off to China, your dream won’t be coming true.

I don’t blame you for being upset. I mean, my God, the woman took off to China without bothering to say goodbye to you.

I–I don’t wanna talk about it.

And if that wasn’t even hurtful, I mean, she broke up with you over text.

Kristen, did you hear me? I don’t wanna talk about it.

OK, fine.

Not like your relationship with Ava Vitali is, uh, my favorite topic of conversation. It’s just I don’t like to see you hurt, Brady. And you can’t take her ending things with you personally. She said she left because she didn’t want to come between you and Rachel.

Yeah, the problem is we just talked about this the other day. I told her that Rachel was seeking therapy and that there was no reason for us to end anything. And I thought she was on board. And then she gets on a plane without even telling me. I–

No, it surprised me, too. I mean, I really thought she cared about you. [sighs] Well, I mean, obviously, her feelings for you weren’t that deep, were they?

I guess not.

Aw, Brady. You–come on. You deserve so much better than this. You don’t deserve to be treated like that. [soft somber music]

We’ll talk later.

Yeah, we will. Because I am going to need some serious dinero.

I trust Harold restocked the toiletries?

Yes, he did. But don’t distract me, EJ. That call was about tanking Jada’s career, wasn’t it?

[scoffs] What do you mean?

I mean I just read “The Spectator.” And it seems that Rafe stopped the wedding and said he couldn’t marry Jada because he’d discovered a mountain of evidence that she’s a corrupt cop.

Well, despite the amount of evidence that Rafe is a bumbling idiot, turns out he’s quite the private detective.

[scoffing] Oh, well, you would know. Since you hired him. So all of this hell that Jada’s been going through, that’s all because of you, isn’t it? [tense music]

[knock at door]

Steve, hi.

I hope it’s not too early.

No, it’s fine. Please, come in. I am always happy to see you.

I called the police station, and they said you weren’t in.

Yeah, Paulina has me on administrative leave while they look into this so-called evidence against me.

I’m so sorry, Jada.

How is this possible? Just a few hours ago, you were walking me down the aisle. And now I’m under investigation for being a dirty cop? And I’m suspected for numerous crimes, none of which I committed.

I hope you know I don’t believe you did any of this.

Thank you, Steve. It means the world that you are here to support me. Which is much more than I can say for Rafe. Anyway, Rafe, I really need to talk to you. Please call me back as soon as you get this.

[chuckles] Sorry, babe. Not gonna happen. [knock at door] Jeez. Chick is relentless. Hey, can you get it through your head? I have nothing to say to say to– you.

Well, that’s too bad. Because I have something to say to you.

So Rafe’s not here?

When I finally got home last night, he was MIA. And I’ve left him a bunch of messages, but I haven’t heard back. Maybe he’s still at the inn?

Yeah. Listen, Jada, I know you’re hurting. But you’re not alone. You have plenty of people who care about you. And they’re going to do everything they can to make sure your name is cleared. I promise you that’s going to happen. [Jada sighs] And Rafe will come home.

Yeah, maybe after Gabi and Javi kick me out.

Oh, come on. That’s not going to happen.

[sighs] I–I can’t believe any of this is happening. Rafe knows me. As a cop and as a human being. And I thought that I knew him. It’s just–[sighs] This is just beyond out of character for him. Like, it’s freakin’ bizarre.

It sure is. That’s why we need to consider who hired Rafe in the first place. [suspenseful music]

Why did you hire Rafe, of all people, to dig up dirt on his own fiancée?

Do you have a problem with that?

I mean, I thought you would have a problem with that, considering how much you despise the man. And you just said you thought he was a lousy detective. Plus, Jada doesn’t even have so much as a parking ticket, so what would make you so sure that Rafe would find anything?

I wasn’t sure at all. I knew full well going in the search could come up empty.

But you went ahead with it anyway.

Well, given how egregiously I’ve been treated, I felt obligated to at least try.

You have an entire army of people on the DiMera payroll who do nothing but dig up dirt on people you want to destroy. So why wouldn’t you use one of them to do this for you?

Because, darling, if I produce the evidence myself, everyone will question it. But if it came from Rafe Hernandez, the very model of decency and fairness, it would be beyond reproach.

So, in other words, you used Rafe to dig up the dirt so you could be certain to bury his bride-to-be?

Boom, boom, boom.

[chuckling] Wow, EJ. I got to say, I mean, that is a truly despicable thing to do. [tense music]

Mayor Price, I’m sorry. I–I didn’t know it was you. Please, come in.

Thank you.

Yeah. So, uh, how’d you know that I was here?

I talked to your sister this morning. She said you’d spent the night here?

Yeah, I– I didn’t feel comfortable going home after… everything that happened.

You mean after you called off your own wedding to hand over all that evidence of Jada’s impropriety?

Yeah. Yeah, yeah, that.

Mm-hm, and the source of that information was a Salem PD detective, correct?

Yeah. Friend of mine owed me a favor.

OK, well, I am going to need that friend’s name.

Hmm.

It’s very romantic that you still feel that your knight in shining armor is going to appear. But I think you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

You’re wrong. Brady is gonna know I didn’t write that stupid text.

Highly doubtful. That message I created for Rachel was quite convincing.

I–I never should have said anything about China.

Oh, but you did. And now Brady thinks you’ve left, sacrificing your relationship with him in the hopes that his precious daughter will come home.

No. Brady’s not going to believe that, because we decided that we didn’t need to break up because of Rachel.

Oh, but as your text said, you still felt that you did. So when Trapp called–

Tripp! You old bat, his name is Tripp.

So when Tripp, your son, invited you to China, you accepted. And decided that you would make plans to stay indefinitely, reconnecting, seeing the sights.

Oh, sounds lovely.

Doesn’t it? And it’s certainly a better story than just you just vanishing off the face of the Earth.

But what if it wasn’t a story? What if I made it the truth? [suspenseful music] [Kristen sighs]

I… I just wish Ava would have told me what she was thinking.

She never gave you a clue that she was leaving?

[sighs] She– she did tell me she felt partially responsible for Rachel running away. But I thought I’d convinced her to let that go. I just– I don’t understand why– why she didn’t come to me first and tell me.

Well, then ask her.

I tried calling her, and there’s no response.

Well, then, Brady, text her.

I–I thought, why would I text her? If she’s not picking up her phone, why would she answer her texts? But, you know, here I am, stewing and speculating. So why don’t I just text her? You know what? I’ll text her. I’ll do it right now.

Good idea. And while you’re doing that, I am going to go get Rachel’s backpack together. It’s about time. We have to go anyways.

Great.

All right. [suspenseful music] [notification chimes] What the–

[Kristen sighs]

The name?

Of the person that found those files for you.

Right, yeah. Yeah, and why do you need it again?

This is an official investigation now. That source provided a lot of serious evidence against Jada. I need to find out how they got it, when they got it, what their involvement might be.

Involvement?

Did they themselves commit any questionable acts? Did they have an ulterior motive? Also, Jada has the right to confront her accuser. So could you give me the name?

[inhales deeply] Yeah, right. Um… can’t do that.

Oof, despicable. That’s rather harsh.

And rather accurate.

I’m not sure how I became the villain in this situation when it was Ms. Hunter who cost me myjob. And at the very same time, she was convincing the mayor to have me fired for bending the rules, she was cutting corners left and right to earn herself a promotion.

Allegedly. Nothing’s been proven yet.

Mm.

Hmm.

Well, I can see why you’re holding out hope. Wouldn’t want to lose your champion.

[scoffs] My what?

Jada did get you installed as district attorney. Didn’t she? [Belle scoffs] Now that she’s on leave, she’s not around to protect you. [EJ inhales deeply] Tsk, tsk, tsk. Mm, poor thing. Now you’re suddenly out there all on your own,

Totally exposed. [soft upbeat jazz music]

I think you’re the one who should be careful.

Mm?

Because it is your most vital organ that is quite vulnerable.

I’m not sure I would consider that my most vital organ at the moment. [Belle chuckles]

Careful. [hand pats] Or you might find yourself totally exposed.

Really?

We’ll see about that. [Belle chuckles]

This has EJ DiMera’s signature all over it.

Yeah, and he obviously blames me for him losing his job. And he did threaten to retaliate, but I didn’t think he would take it this far.

When it comes to DiMera, there’s no such thing as too far.

OK, let’s back up for a sec. When I asked Rafe why he even agreed to dig up dirt on me for EJ, he said that he was sure that he wouldn’t find anything, that he just, you know, wanted to do it to make some extra money for our wedding. What? You don’t believe him?

No, I do.

What? Do you think that EJ made sure that Rafe would find something?

Yes, and the only way he could do that is if he manufactured it himself.

So EJ did this to get revenge.

Seems on-brand, right?

Absolutely. But the question is how do we prove it? [suspenseful music]

Why on Earth does Rachel have Ava’s phone?

It’s not locked. She must have disabled the passcode. And here’s Brady’s text that he just sent. And there’s Ava’s saying that she’s leaving town. Except she didn’t write these. Rachel did.

So if Ava’s not in Hong Kong, then where the hell is she? [sighs]

Oh, no.

Kristen? Is everything OK?

The truth? What do you mean?

I’ll go to Hong Kong for real. Look, all you care about is keeping me out of the way so Kristen and Brady can get back together. I mean, what a better way than sending me halfway around the world?

If I let you out that door, you’re going to call Brady the first chance you get.

No. No, I will not. [suspenseful music] Look, I have spent my fair share of time in mental hospitals for seeing people who weren’t there. So if I start popping off at the mouth about spending time with some mysterious woman in white, I’m going to get a one-way ticket back to Bayview. Look, I miss my son. He’s going to be married soon, and I want to be there. Look, this is a win-win. I get to see Tripp, you get to give Rachel exactly what she wanted, and you don’t have to worry about hiding me anymore. Please, I want to take this burden off of you.

How kind.

Look, all I’m saying is there are elements here that you cannot control. If I go to China, you will never hear from me again.

So what do you say?

[Paulina scoffs]

You can’t tell me the name of your source?

Yeah, well, like I said, a friend of mine did me a favor. And I promised them that there would be no blowback.

That’s a promise you shouldn’t have made.

Yeah, but this– this is Jada’s career we are talking about. Now, if I thought that there was anything that was off, without evidence, or if there was any red flag whatsoever that told me that it wasn’t legit, I would insist that you speak to the source. But I saw those files. And unfortunately, there is no need for that.

So you believe all of this about your fiancée?

Well, God knows I– I don’t want to. You know, I mean, just the thought of it, that– that I was going to marry this woman, I mean, it’s devastating. But I can’t say that, if I’m honest with myself, it’s at all surprising.

Meaning what?

[sighs] OK. Jada would never admit this, but there’s always a part of her that she felt like she was, um, an imposter. Yep. She was always trying to convince others that she was in the right place or, you know, constantly trying to– trying to, you know, make people believe that she deserved to be where she was at. And–[sighs] I don’t know, I– I just think that– that kind of behavior, you know, I think that– that can be dangerous. So unfortunately, um… I do believe it. [tense somber music]

But how do we prove that EJ manufactured the evidence?

I have a few ideas. So I guess that means you’re Black Patch’s newest client. Pro bono, of course.

Well, since my leave is unpaid, I am not going to fight you on that. Thank you.

Good. Well, I’m going to get started right away. But first, I have to go to the hospital and check on Kayla.

What? Why? What happened?

Oh, with everything that happened last night, I guess you haven’t heard. You remember Whitley King?

Of course, I do. The nurse who held Abe captive.

Yeah, well, turns out she was responsible for all the mayhem at “Body & Soul.” The tainted cupcakes, Bonnie’s accident.

I thought she was in Bayview.

Well, that didn’t stop her from going on the attack. Last night, she sent the entire cast scripts laced with poison. And since Kayla was the newest cast member–

Oh, my God, Steve. Why didn’t you say something?

Well, they have an antidote and everybody’s going to be fine. But I–I need to get going and just check on Kayla.

Yes, yes, please. Please go. And please tell her that I’m thinking of her.

I will.

Yes.

Like I said, as soon as I’m finished at the hospital, I’m on the case.

I really appreciate that, Steve. But in the meantime, I am going to get to the bottom of this myself.

What was that?

What?

I heard something. Samantha, is that you?

Oh! That is not funny.

Are you sure you don’t want to hide in the closet just in case?

We talked about this. [EJ chuckles] We agreed that we were not going to live in fear of my sister.

True, but it wouldn’t hurt to batten down a few of the hatches. I mean, you said it yourself. Now that your mother knows about our reconnection, it’s quite possible that Samantha could find out as well.

Yeah, and what is she going to do? Other than totally freak out?

Go after my vital organs.

[laughs] No. She’s gonna–she’s gonna have a temper tantrum, she’s gonna tell us both to go to hell, and then she’s gonna storm out like she does every other time. You and Sami are divorced. Shawn and I are divorced. We can do whatever we want. There is no reason to hide.

Strong argument, counselor. [Belle chuckles] I like it.

Mm.

Mwah. Now you go and have a shower. I’ll have Cook bring us some pastries, and I’ll meet you downstairs.

That sounds like a plan.

Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah. [tense music]

So I could send you to China and be rid of you for good?

Exactly. And then you can go back to doing… whatever it is you do here.

Mm. It’s a very tempting offer. But I’m afraid I can’t take you up on it.

Why not?

Well, the truth is I don’t have much to do. And no one ever comes round here anymore. Except the Parrot Man. And he’s not a great conversationalist. So these little exchanges, this is the most I’ve spoken to a person in years.

So you won’t let me leave because you want to have someone to chat with?

I won’t let you leave because I don’t trust you. I’m sure as soon as you get to Hong Kong, you’re gonna turn right around and come right back.

No, no, I promise I won’t.

There, there, dear. It’s OK. I’ve already made up my mind.

Should we grab Rachel and head out?

Yeah, you know, Brady, I am not feeling very well.

What’s wrong?

[sighs] I–I don’t know. My head just started pounding.

Mm-hmm. Well, we’re headed towards the hospital. Why don’t we stop at the doctor’s office and you can have that checked out?

No, no, it’s not that serious. It’s just probably from all the craziness that’s been happening these past few days. It’s just catching up to me now. Would– would you mind, uh, taking Rachel to her appointment? I’m just gonna head upstairs and lie down for a bit.

Sure. Yeah, no–no problem.

Thanks. [suspenseful music]

EJ, are you down here? I thought we were gonna have– breakfast. [sighs] OK. [approaching footsteps]

Belle. What are you doing here?

I, uh, I just stopped by to see my nephew, Johnny. What brings you by?

I need to talk to EJ. Have you seen him? [tense music]

Rise and shine, Hernandez. Breakfast is served. [sniffs] Ooh. Whoop.

[EJ humming]

Ugh.

Oh, stop it.

What the hell are you doing here? Where’s your henchwoman?

Oh, Rita had other business to attend to.

Oh, yeah? Is she out maybe getting Arnold and Jada a wedding present? Matching his and hers tasers?

A wedding present? I thought I told you. I made it very, very clear that that wedding wouldn’t be happening. And it didn’t.

Oh, God. What did you do?

Not me. Arnold. He did exactly what I told you he would do. He outed Jada as a corrupt cop and dumped her at the altar.

I appreciate your honesty, Rafe. I can’t imagine that this is easy for you.

No, it hasn’t been. I care about Jada very much. As–as do you.

Oh, I feel terrible about all of this. But as I said, these are very serious allegations. And, well, as mayor, I had to sideline Jada while we look into all of them. Of course, I have to appoint a new police commissioner. At least temporarily. [suspenseful music] – So now I have to be the top cop?

You don’t want the job?

Well, it’s just, you know, I’ve never really been a 9:00 to 5:00 kind of guy. – Yeah, I gathered that. But rest assured, I will make it very much worth your while.

So you need someone to step in for Jada?

I just said that I did, didn’t I?

OK. Well, how about me?

Hey, Brady.

Hey.

I’m so glad to hear you found little Rachel.

Mm.

Is she OK?

Yeah, no, she’s fine. We’re just here for a therapy appointment.

Oh, gotcha.

Yeah, it turns out part of her grand plan was running away, hoping that she would get her parents back together. Although that’s not going to happen anytime soon, it made us realize that she could use the help of a child psychologist. Thank you, by the way.

For what?

For helping Ava with those texts that she was getting.

Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I found out one of them was sent from the DiMera mansion. Ava was sure it was Kristen.

Yeah, so was I. But, um– [clicks tongue]

What? Are you telling me it was Rachel?

Yeah. Yeah. She thought Ava was some kind of an obstacle. And… it turns out she isn’t anymore, though.

What do you mean?

Ava broke up with me. She actually just left for Hong Kong to see Tripp.

She did? Well, that’s strange.

How come?

Tripp didn’t say a word about it to me. [tense music]

[words muffled] Come on. Come on, come on! Damn it! [door opens]

Hello? Is anyone here?

Kristen!

Oh, my God. Just as I thought. [Kristen sighs]

Ugh. Oh, God. Thank God, Kristen. Oh! How did you find me?

Um, you know, I– I found your phone in Rachel’s backpack, along with my scrapbook about Aremid. And so I just put two and two together. But the thing that I don’t understand, how did you get here?

Rachel called me and she said she needed help. She gave me this address. I immediately called Brady. I left him a message and I–

Right, right, right, right. The reception was bad and your message got cut off. That’s all. Yeah. He played it for me and Johnny. He wanted to see if we could figure out what you said. And in the end, it was all garbled.

And Rachel knew that. She knew that Brady didn’t hear me say that I was on my way here. And that is why he thought I went to China.

Rachel did this all by herself, tied you up and left you here?

No, she didn’t do it by herself. She had help.

I actually don’t know where EJ is. But I’m assuming this is about what happened at the wedding yesterday.

You heard?

Yeah, I read it in the paper this morning.

Well, don’t believe everything you read. I am completely innocent, which is why I need to speak to EJ. He is obviously behind this whole thing.

Jada is not a corrupt cop, you son of a bitch.

Mm. I’m quite certain the investigation will prove that she is. And now that there’s a vacancy for police commissioner, I’m going to make sure that Arnold fills it. Attaboy.

Yeah, right. That moron running Salem PD? He’ll never pull it off.

I don’t see why not. He’s impersonating you. And being a moron was your, uh, forte. [EJ chuckles]

You really are scum.

Mm, mm, mm. What I am, Hernandez, is one giant step to getting exactly what I wanted. Here. Come on.

You want me to appoint you as interim commissioner?

Well, I just want to do whatever I can to make a challenging situation easier. Now, this is obviously your call. And I completely understand if you have someone else in mind.

Oh, honestly, I don’t. Shawn, he did the job previously. But that was a bit of a disaster because he had a drinking problem back then.

Yeah. Uh, look, I understand how this looks, rehiring a guy that you– you just got rid of. But the public knows me and they trust me. And I’ve never been involved in any kind of scandal. My record is spotless. And I think that that’s exactly what you need right now, considering the suspicion surrounding Jada.

Mm. With the city council just breathing down my neck, I need to get somebody in that job right away. [suspenseful music]

You’re hired.

Oh.

I talked to Tripp last week, and he didn’t say a thing about Ava being there.

Well, this– this just happened. She texted me yesterday to let me know she landed in Hong Kong. I was blindsided by it.

So she didn’t tell you she was going?

No. No, I’ve been reaching out to her with no response. I mean, it’s fine if she doesn’t want to make a big deal or have a big talk about this. But I’d love to know that she was OK.

Yeah. Well, it’s not too late there yet. How about I give Tripp a call?

I’d appreciate that.

[phone beeps]

Hey, son. It’s your dad. No, no, no, everything’s OK. I’m just here with Brady. And he’d like to talk to your mom. Could you put her on? Oh. She’s not there? [dramatic music]

What do you mean, Rachel had help?

There is someone else here.

Who? Is it the Parrot Man?

No, she told me to call her the Woman in White.

The Woman in– what are you talking about?

Kristen, my love, is that you?

Mother?

Recap written by Suzanne

Finn and Poppy argue more about the fact that she didn’t tell him that he’s Luna’s father.

Finn goes to the prison, but they won’t tell him where Luna is. Finn phones Poppy, wondering where Luna is. She doesn’t know but asks him again not to tell Steffy the truth.

Luna tells Bill that Will and Electra were there, but she stayed out of sight. He’s worried that someone might find her there and reminds her that no one can see her or know she’s there. She hides when they hear someone else coming. It’s Liam, who notes that Bill is keeping the door unlocked again. They hug, talk about work a little, and Liam’s kids. Bill suggests they go out on the boat, so Liam agrees. He mentions that tonight is Steffy and Finn’s anniversary. Bill wonders how Liam feels about that. Liam is just glad she’s happy and remembers that she was locked in a cage not too long ago by “Luna, the psycho.” Luna, hiding nearby and listening, looks upset at that.

Brooke and Carter continue to chat about how the coup might have been wrong. He tells her that he needs to focus on the company, but Brooke thinks that it’s wrong for Ridge and Eric not to be there at Forrester. He agrees, but points out that they made that choice. He apologizes, though, because he didn’t think that when he made her CEO, Ridge would turn to Taylor. She admits that she’s shocked at how quickly that happened. They know that Ridge felt betrayed. Later, Carter thinks about Steffy and Ridge signing the papers that led to the coup.

Ridge is on the phone with Justin, trying to find a way out of losing Forrester Creations. Justin tells him that nothing can be done legally. Ridge shares that news with Steffy. She tells Ridge that she intends to put an end to the “evil coup.” She thinks they will self-destruct, with help from Daphne. She points out that something good came of it – Ridge broke free of Brooke and went back to Taylor. He thanks her for always rooting for them. She has to leave because it’s her anniversary with Finn. He hugs her and wishes her a happy anniversary.

A little later, Brooke arrives; he thinks she’s there for Donna. She’s there to see him and tells him that she doesn’t want to be at odds with him. They still love each other and need to fix things. Ridge is belligerent and not softening to her, at all, still feeling betrayed. She tells him that she’s been working to get everyone back together, and talking to Carter about how wrong this is, and how bad it is for everyone. She apologizes for how all of it happened. He tells her how he felt to lose the company, and to be humiliated, by her and Carter. She tells him that it hurt her when he ran to Taylor. He refuses to talk about Taylor. She reminds him that their connection is always there, no matter what. She’s willing to fight for that.

Steffy goes home and flashes back to when Finn proposed on the beach. She wonders where he is as she lights romantic candles. Steffy steps on a toy, which reminds her of Finn rescuing her. Finn finally arrives, so they kiss. She gives him a glass of wine. She can tell that he seems tense. He groans because he forgot it was their anniversary, but she forgives him (thinking that it had to do with saving lives at work). She urges him to forget his bad day and tells him how she was thinking about his proposal, and how strong their bond is now. She admits that she also thought of Luna, and how he rescued her. She says that they have so much to look forward to. He stays quiet, so Steffy asks him what’s bothering him. He says that there’s something he needs to tell her.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Chad checked on Julie to see how she was doing and asked about her therapy. Julie told him that the session went well but it wouldn’t help with her problem. She said she was lost without Doug. They continued to talk about losing someone you love. While they were talking, Julie said she was willing to ease up on Cat because Clyde forced her to do what she did. When Julie said Chad and Cat were friends, he said they weren’t friends but could be someday. Julie said she would stop criticizing Cat but there were times when things might happen. She said she hoped Cat got the job working for Marlena. Chad left to go to the office. Xander went to the hospital to ask Sarah to go out to dinner with him. Sarah told him about everyone getting poisoned. When Xander brought up Justin and Philip, Sarah asked if he and Philip were getting along. Xander said he and Philip were getting along and were going to war against the DiMeras. Sarah was upset about it until Xander said they were doing it legitimately. He promised they would be careful and said it was Philip’s idea to go after the DiMeras. Sarah wondered why Philip changed his mind. Xander said Philp was less cautious since he wasn’t with Stephanie.

Alex and Stephanie talked about wanting to be together after what happened to them. Stephanie said the scripts were poisoned. Alex said Joy was poisoned too. He called Joy, but she didn’t answer. They went to check on Joy. When they got to Joy’s place, she was unconscious. They took her to the hospital. Sarah was afraid that she was under the poison for too long but there was an antidote that could help. Alex and Sarah talked about the antidote. Joy woke up and wondered where she was. In the receptionist area, Xander and Stephanie talked about Philip. Stephanie thought of her conversation with Philip. Before Stephanie could say anything, Sarah showed up to say how Joy was doing. Stephanie went to see Joy. When Xander left to get takeout, Sarah texted Philip. Kate talked to Philip about what was going on at Body and Soul. When Kate told him about the poisoning, he was concerned that Stephanie could have gotten hurt. Kate told him Stephanie quit the show. She said the soap has been more trouble than it’s worth and questioned if it was worth the trouble. Kate changed the subject by asking him about getting along with Xander. Philip said they were getting along. Kate was glad he was working with Xander. He told her that he and Xander were going after DiMera. Kate was concerned about Sarah causing trouble. She said Sarah knew his secret. Philip said he would have heard something by now if something happened. Sarah showed up to confront Philip. She reminded him that he was supposed to keep Xander in line and work with him. Philip said he was working with him and would keep him from breaking the law. Sarah said Philip wasn’t a great influence on Xander and considered telling him the truth. He asked her to be reasonable because no one would be there to keep an eye on Xander. She said they were going to be playing by her rules. Sarah said they could take over DiMera but if something went wrong, she was pulling the plug on it. Alex told Stephanie that it wasn’t the right time to break up with Joy and would do it when she was better. He said he wanted to be with her. When they kissed, Joy came out of her room and saw them.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Kayla collapsed in Steve’s arms. He took her to the couch, but she was barely breathing. Steve took matters into his own hands and called 9-1-1. Alex and Stephanie admitted they wanted to be together, but he fell to the couch before kissing her. She was able to wake him after he passed out. Stephanie called the police. She was put on hold so she decided to take care of him by herself. The hospital sent someone out, but Stephanie was able to help him. Johnny wondered why Leo killed off Seth from the show. He didn’t feel right and passed out. Chanel helped him by waking him up. She called an ambulance, but she was told to wait because there were a lot of people calling. She took matters into her own hands and took him to the hospital. Leo put it together and realized the stalker created the new scripts for the show. Hattie fell on his bed, and he wanted her off the bed. He started panicking when he realized that she wasn’t waking up. Leo thought about their times together, but she was gone. He tapped her head with his gloved hand. Leo tried to figure out who she died until she started murmuring. He was shocked that she was alive. Abe figured out who was behind the attacks. He couldn’t believe that he didn’t figure it out sooner. Abe’s picture was crossed out with a red X by the stalker. Whitley was in her hospital room when Abe showed up. She wondered what took him so long to get there. He saw the board with everyone’s picture crossed out. Abe accused her of attacking his cast. Whitley informed him that his suspicions were right. Abe figured it was her when Kassandra was killed by a cat. Whitley admitted she did it and would do it again. She explained that Abe and the rest of the cast ruined her favorite soap opera. He couldn’t believe her reasoning for stalking the cast. She wanted to show him the error of his ways before the show was destroyed. Abe wanted to know how she went after Bonnie while she was in Bayview. Whitley explained how the people at Bayview thought she was harmless. She followed social media to find out everything she needed to take them out. Whitley explained how the show was all she had after losing her husband and said that Abe was next. The nurse was about to inject him with a vial of poison when Paulina arrived to stop her. Paulina wasn’t going to let Abe deal with Whitley alone. She hoped that the other people she attacked got help too.

Sarah found Seth reading a script. He informed her that he’s been fired from the show. Seth couldn’t believe his character was getting killed off the show when he was a great actor. He ranted about letting the show to get filmed at the hospital. Seth continued his rant and talked about dying the way Whitley King’s husband died. Sarah defended Whitley by reminding him about the way she lost her husband. Seth was more concerned with how he died on the show. He started coughing and clutching his chest. Seth was in pain so he sat down. Sarah raced to check on him. Steve brought Kayla to the hospital and explained what happened to Sarah. Sarah told him what happened to Seth. After talking with Steve, she was convinced they were poisoned. Steve sat by Kayla’s bed and wished for her to come back to him. Chanel and Johnny arrived at the hospital. Sarah told them that she thinks the scripts were poisoned. Later Sarah created an antidote to stop the poison from harming anyone. She took the antidote to Kayla’s room and injected her. After she left Kayla’s room, she went to Johnny’s with the antidote. She assured Chanel that he would make a full recovery. After Sarah left the room, Johnny promised he wouldn’t leave Chanel again. Chanel realized how much he meant to her when she almost lost him. She believed that everything that happened will make them stronger. They promised not to take each other for granted again. The couple kissed each other.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[light music]

So I went to see Mark today. He really misses you.

I miss him too.

Yeah, I know you do. [sighs] I know–I know how upset you are about the fact that he’s in prison. I am too. I am too, especially because he was just trying to save Mom.

I know.

It’s just…[sighs] Not everyone sees it that way.

[dramatic music]

Hey, Julie. Julie. Hey.

Oh, Chad, my goodness, I didn’t realize you were here.

That’s OK. I just got here. How you doing?

All right–I mean, as all right as I can be.

Yeah, well, I’m sorry I was gone so long.

Oh, that was no problem. Your children were angels, as always.

Not always.

Always for me.

Well, that’s good for you.

[chuckles]

Are they sleeping?

Yeah. The guys put them to sleep. I was not of much help this evening, I’m afraid.

Well, I’m sure that’s not true. And if JJ and Doug needed you, I’m sure you would have been there.

I’ve been meaning to ask how the session with–with Marlena went.

Fine, I guess. Sit down. What I really appreciate is, Marlena did not pressure me about coming back. She said we can have this one session, and you go home, you think about it, and then decide whether or not you want to return.

Good. So what’s the verdict? Are you gonna go back? Did it help?

– Ah. There’s my girl.

Hey.

Mm.

Mm.

Mm.

What are you doing here?

I just got off work, and I knew you were working late, so I thought maybe I’d swing by and see if my beautiful wife would like to join me for a late dinner.

[sighs] I really wish I could. Xander, it has been the craziest day today.

How so?

Well, in a nutshell, a bunch of people were poisoned, including your cousin Alex.

Mm. That was well worth the wait.

Yeah, it was. Mm. And just so you know, I would have kissed you even if you hadn’t almost died.

Damn. I went through all that for nothing?

[laughs] The important thing is, it’s over.

I’m just so relieved that you’re OK.

Hmm. You and me both. [chuckles] How much would that have sucked if I kicked the bucket right when we finally decided to be together?

Well, I hope you know that if your near-death experience caused you to change your mind–

Are you kidding me? Steph, my near-death experience made me want to be with you even more, just the thought of never seeing that beautiful face again? Mm-mm.

I just– [sighs] I just really wish–

What?

[sighs] Not to spoil the mood, I just– [sighs] I really don’t want to have to break the news to Joy about us.

Yeah. Yeah, I feel so bad for her. I’ve had my heart broken enough times to know that a relationship ending, it can feel like your life is ending too.

[suspenseful music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[dramatic music]

Mm, I’m just hoping Joy doesn’t take it too hard. I mean, we’ve only been dating about a month. [phone beeps]

Oh, sorry, one second. Oh, it’s my dad. He’s just giving me an update on my mom.

What’s going on with your mom?

Oh, my God, I can’t believe I hadn’t told you.

Tell me what?

While we were waiting for the paramedics, I found out that my mom was poisoned too.

What? Steph, I’m assuming she’s all right, or else you wouldn’t be here.

Yeah, she is all right, thank God.

Good.

They’re treating her at the hospital. They’re keeping her there overnight just to be on the safe side.

[scoffs] Thank God. I mean, it’s no coincidence that your mother and I were both poisoned the exact same damn night.

No, it’s not. You were pretty out of it, but the paramedics said that several members of “Body & Soul” cast and crew were all targeted.

[sighs]

They were sent scripts laced with a contact toxin. I assume that’s how you got sick.

A contact toxin? It must have been. Yeah, I mean…[scoffs] It’s just crazy to me. One minute, I was just going over my script with Joy.

Oh, my God, Joy.

[suspenseful music]

[phone ringing]

Thankfully, we had the antidote already here in the lab, so we haven’t lost anyone, although not everyone has been accounted for. The police are still working on that.

What about Alex?

I was told that he’s OK.

Oh, thank God.

Mm.

Wonder if Justin and Philip have heard the news.

I have no idea. Speaking of your brother, I haven’t heard you complain about him in a while. Does that mean you two are turning a corner?

Well, actually, I think maybe we have. You know, these last couple of weeks, Philip and I have been working pretty well together.

I’m glad to hear that.

[chuckles] In fact, he’s now in support of my idea to go after DiMera Enterprises. [dramatic music]

What? You said that he was opposed to that.

Not anymore. We’re both gung ho now to destroy our competition.

[breathing heavily] [knock at door]

Mom.

Hey, look, I’m– I’m sorry to drop by unannounced, but I really need someone to talk to, and I didn’t want to give you a chance to say you were busy or whatever.

Well, as much as I admire your guerrilla-style tactics, I actually am busy… [sighs] Getting ready for bed. I have an early meeting tomorrow.

So really, you’re gonna turn away your mom? You know, Roman is still in Chicago visiting Rex, and actually, I don’t have anyone to turn to, so…

OK, fine. What’s the problem?

Thank you. Well, in a nutshell, my career as a soap opera mogul is a complete disaster. And frankly, it’s depressing as hell.

If you are asking did Marlena cure my depression in one magical session, the answer is no. [sighs] She was lovely to me, but I really don’t see how therapy is going to help my problem. My problem is that Doug is gone and I’m lost without him.

Yeah. You and Doug were together for a very, very long time. So, you know, that’s decades of memories and decades of love. So it makes–makes all the sense in the world that you’d be having a hard time right now.

Thank you so much for understanding. I mean, I’m sorry. I’m hoping I can be that feisty old gal again. Maybe she’s around here somewhere. I doubt it.

No, I think– I think she is. And I think you’ll find her. You know, so maybe talking to Marlena, if not for a cure, at least for some comfort.

OK. I will book another session.

OK.

I do realize I can’t go on living like this. And if I realize it at all, it’s thanks to you.

You know, in my long life, I’ve lost a lot of people… [dramatic music] Loved ones, friends. It’s always hard. But this, losing my life partner, the love of my life, it’s just a bigger blow than I’ve ever had to take. And I honestly feel I’ve lost a part of myself.

Yeah, I know. I get it.

You do. We know we never stop loving, never stop missing.

But I also understand, eventually, my heart will open again. And I’ll be able to appreciate all these blessings that I do have. That’s you, you, your children, this wonderful family, all the friends that have showered me with love and support. [chuckles] So be of good cheer. I’ll get there. I’ll–I’ll adapt.

Yes, you will.

[laughs]

Hey. We need you. You’re very important to us.

And you are very important to me. And in this process, I have consequently done some soul-searching.

And I have had a change of heart about someone.

Oh? Who’s that?

Cat Greene.

Hey, Cat, is Mark a bad person? [light music]

No, no, no. Mark is not a bad person. He did a bad thing, right, but for a good reason, just like what I did when I lied to Chad DiMera. He didn’t deserve that. He didn’t deserve what I put him through, and especially not, because he’s such a wonderful man.

In what way?

Well, he’s really good with his kids. He’s a really loving father. He’s courageous and strong– not, like, in a machismo kind of way. Just, like, he’s brave, and, you know, he’s strong but sensitive. And he’s smart. He’s so funny. He is hilarious. [laughs]

Wow. You really like him, don’t you?

Xander, I told you that I do not want you to break the law. [dramatic music]

Relax. Philip and I will find a legitimate way to go after DiMera and seize control. No illegal tactics, I promise.

Is that a promise you can keep?

Well, we might have to bend some rules a smidge.

Xander!

But we won’t break them.

[sighs] I do not like the idea of you starting a war with Kristen DiMera, of all people. She will not go down without a fight. And you know how deadly that woman can be.

We’ll be careful. I can promise you that too.

[sighs] Well, unfortunately, that doesn’t really mean anything to me. Damn. I cannot believe that Philip let you talk him into this.

Oh, I didn’t have to. It was Philip’s idea to move forward with the idea.

I can’t believe some crazy fan poisoned your cast and crew.

[scoffs] Yeah, well, at least no one’s died as of yet. I mean, the police are still checking with people who didn’t pick up their phone.

Wait, what about Stephanie? Is she OK?

Yeah, no, she’s fine. I mean, I don’t know, maybe Whitley King knew she was about to quit.

Steph quit the show?

Yeah. Yeah, that’s what I’m telling you. I mean, it’s been one thing after another, from the dueling divas, the cheating spouses, the venomous columnist, the crazy fan– the murderous fan. And now we lose our publicist just when we need her the most.

Well, at least she wasn’t poisoned.

[sighs] Look, my point is, the show has just been plagued with problems. I’m really wondering if doing this venture is, I mean, worth all the trouble.

Are you saying you’re ready to throw in the towel?

I don’t know. I mean, I really don’t. I mean, the reason that I was looking forward to executive producing a soap opera is because it would be fun, you know, exciting. And it actually brought a little joy for a while. And now there’s no joy. It’s dead. Dead. [phone ringing] [suspenseful music]

[sighs] She’s not picking up.

Oh, my God, I feel so awful. I was so worried about you, it never occurred to me that Joy could be affected too.

I have to get over there, Steph.

Oh, Alex, Alex, you’re still too weak.

I’ll be fine, seriously. I just–I have to make sure she’s OK, really. If she didn’t get that antidote, her life could be in danger.

OK, well, let me drive you.

OK. Let’s go.

OK.

[exhales heavily] [light music]

Well, yes, yes, you know, of course I like him. He’s a–you know, like I said, a wonderful man.

Do you like, like him?

Mm, no. No, uh-uh. It’s nothing like that. Mm-mm. It’s just–it’s– OK, yes, it is just like that. I like, like him.

Does he know that?

Yes, actually, he knows that I have feelings for him. But it’s not like he could ever like me back.

Why not?

[scoffs] Because of what I did to him. What I did destroyed any chance that we could ever be together. [sighs] – So you’ve had a change of heart about Cat, huh?

Well, not precisely a change of heart. I do realize now that she was strong-armed into doing all the things she did by Clyde, so… that doesn’t mean I forgive her, not for all the months and months of duplicitous lies. But I don’t need to be so vocal about it, especially now that you and she are friends?

Mm, no, I don’t–I– [clears throat] I wouldn’t go that far. No, I mean, we’re in a better place, sure, but friends? [dramatic music] No. Maybe someday.

Sorry things are such a mess. Is there anything I can do to help?

No. You’ve done that already just by listening. Abe and I will take care of this and hopefully figure it out. Anyway, so how are you doing? How’s the work situation?

Believe it or not, Xander and I are actually getting along.

Good. Really, so Sarah and Stephanie are keeping their mouths shut?

Yeah. My brother still thinks the letter from Dad is legit, which is great because he’s finally making a real effort to work with me. In fact, we’ve teamed up to make a pretty big power play.

Really? Do tell.

Well, Xander and I– drumroll, please…

Oh. [patting lap]

We’re going to take over DiMera Enterprises.

You’re saying it was Philip’s idea to go after DiMera?

Well, it was my idea originally, as you know. And Philip shot it down initially. But now, in the spirit of working together and more likely probably because he realizes the brilliance of said idea, he’s had a change of heart.

That doesn’t make any sense.

Why not? What do you mean?

This isn’t about Xander’s misdeeds. He’s the victim here.

[laughs]

And you know Xander better than anyone. You’ve seen what he’s capable of when he was just a regular guy with regular resources. Do you really want to see what he’ll do if given the full, unchecked power of Titan Industries?

No, I’m just– I’m surprised. You said that Philip adamantly opposed the idea of a hostile takeover of DiMera.

Well, he did at the time, when I first pitched the idea. But his main objection was about Stephanie, her having gotten caught up last time. He just didn’t want that to happen again.

So, what, he just– he doesn’t care now?

Well, no, it’s just not really an issue now because she dumped him.

[knocking]

Joy? [knocking] Joy, it’s Alex. Are you in there? [knocking] Joy. [suspenseful music] Oh, my God, Joy.

[gasps]

Joy, Joy. Hey.

Oh, my God.

Hey, can you hear me? Joy. Oh, my God. She has a pulse, but it’s weak. Steph, we got to get her to the hospital.

Yeah.

OK, come on.

OK.

OK, Joy, it’s all right.

OK.

It’s OK. It’s OK.

OK.

All right. Here, just stand her up.

OK.

OK. Easy.

We got you.

OK. [light music]

Now, I would like to think that maybe Chad could forgive me one day. I just–I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t see that happening.

Why not? I did.

[chuckles] Yes, you did. And I’m really grateful for that. So happy we have this. But, like, even if Chad could forgive me, it’s still– I just don’t think he has those kind of feelings for me.

That’s kind of like me and Todd.

Oh, right. When you first liked Todd, he didn’t like you back. That’s right. I remember. And then you gave him your meat loaf sandwich, and he was like, oh, I do like you. [laughs]

And now he’s my boyfriend.

Yeah. Yeah. And, you know, I’m so happy for you guys. You are the most adorable couple. [chuckles] [sighs] I mean, they do say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but I think it’s gonna take a little bit more than a meat loaf sandwich for me and Chad to turn it all around.

So I promise not to be so critical of Cat, although sometimes my straight-shooter instincts just kind of slip out.

Yeah. Well, I appreciate the effort. That’s very kind of you.

If I’m gonna be spending more time with Marlena, the least I can do is be courteous to her little assistant. That’s assuming Cat gets the assistant job.

Yeah, I hope she does. I think she deserves a second chance.

A second chance. Doug would approve. [dramatic music] He was a champion of second chances.

I’m sorry, I–that’s– I got to go back to “The Spectator.” There’s a big story that my editor wants in tomorrow’s paper, so…

You gonna be OK?

I’m gonna be fine. In fact, tonight I might even try to go up there and sleep in a great big empty bed again.

Well, good luck.

And if I don’t make it, this is a very comfy little sofa here.

Yeah, I bet that bed’s comfier, though.

Yes, it is. So I’ll try.

I love you.

I love you too.

[sighs]

[monitor beeping]

She gonna be OK? She was left untreated way longer than I was.

Yeah. Yeah, I was concerned about that too. But when the antidote is in her system, it should work pretty quickly.

She was all alone. I should have never left her.

Yeah, but then you would be in really bad shape as well.

Yeah, but still, I just wish it occurred to me that she could have been in trouble too.

Yeah. Well, she’s being taken care of now. How are you feeling?

I’m fine, thanks to that antidote.

Hmm.

How did you come up with it so fast, anyway?

Well, actually, we had it in the lab already. Once we figured out the toxin that Whitley King used, we just had to find the right drug to counteract the effects. So far, everyone’s made a full recovery.

Wow.

Alex? Alex, is that you?

Hey, Joy, yeah. I’m right here.

Why am I in the hospital? What happened to me?

Poor Joy. Such a nightmare.

Well, she’s lucky she had you and Alex looking out for her.

[sighs] I just wish we’d gotten there sooner.

We? So you and Alex are back together?

Why do you ask?

Philip told me that you broke things off with him, but he was vague about the details. I thought maybe you chose Alex over him.

Did it never occur to you, Philip, that had people found out that you were committing fraud that they might think that I was in on it, that maybe I was helping to deceive the public into thinking that you were this poor victim who was wrongly deprived of his birthright?

But I was. If I had overcome my demons just a few months sooner, it would have changed everything. My dad would have left me in charge.

That is pure speculation. And you know that will is solid, meaning you stole half the company from Xander.

Well, he deserved to have it stolen from him. I mean, it’s not like Xander is some upstanding guy either.

That is irrelevant. Damn it, Philip, I never would have done PR for you had I known that you were trying to pull this scheme.

You used me.

No, no, Steph. Look…[sighs] Let’s talk about this over dinner.

Oh, there is no dinner. In fact, you and I are through, Philip, professionally and personally.

Alex is not the reason why I stopped seeing Philip.

[sighs]

Hey.

Oh, how’s Joy?

Well, her vitals are almost back to normal, so I think she’ll make a full recovery.

Thank God. Can I go see her?

Sure. Yeah.

Well, I’m glad Joy is gonna be OK.

Me too. Honestly, I wasn’t so sure at first ’cause she’d been suffering the effects of the poison a lot longer than the others.

I see what you mean about a crazy night.

[sighs]

So do you think you’re still gonna be too busy to grab dinner?

You go ahead. I actually need some more time to wrap things up here. And I don’t want you to wait any longer than you already have.

OK. I’ll go to the pub, grab us both some takeout, and see you back at the house, yeah?

That sounds good.

OK. Love you.

Mm. [tense music]

So you and Xander are going to attempt a takeover of DiMera.

Not just attempt. We are going to succeed.

What? You don’t like the idea.

Look, I admire your ambition. I really do. Your father would too. But you need to give it more thought, you know. You may be ruffling the wrong feathers.

I’m not afraid of Kristen.

[clears throat]

Plus, wouldn’t it be great to pay her back for trying to kill you a few years ago?

Uh-huh, it would. But I’m not concerned with Kristen.

Then who, Chad?

No, darling, I’m not talking about Chad either. I’m talking about Sarah.

Sarah, who knows your secret, who agreed to remain silent because you were going to help her keep Xander in line.

And I will.

Really, by going forward with this war that Sarah was against from the beginning, especially if it involves Xander using underhanded tactics?

Look, I get what you’re saying, but I’m sure if it was a problem, I would have heard from her by now.

[scoffs] [phone beeps]

It’s Sarah. Yeah, she wants to meet.

[scoffs]

[tense music]

[sighs] Let me guess, you’re not happy about Xander and me taking over DiMera.

You’re damn right I’m not. I thought that we had an understanding, that I wouldn’t tell Xander that you stole half of his company. In exchange for my silence, you would keep my husband’s worst instincts in check.

And I am.

By egging him on to start a war with the DiMeras, of all people?

I believe you also asked me to work with him. So in a way, this is what you wanted.

[scoffs] Don’t be a smart-ass.

Look, we aren’t going to do anything illegal.

[scoffs] That’s what Xander said too. But this is an aggressive move. And you know damn well that it is going to be very difficult not to get your hands dirty.

Sarah, I promise, I’ll make sure your hubby doesn’t break the law.

[chuckles] Well, this may come as a shock to you, but those words ring really hollow right now. And since you’re turning out to not be a very good influence on Xander, well, I think maybe that we should just tell him the truth, that you have no claim on Titan.

Well, well, well. Hmm. What a coincidence. My son and I were just talking about you.

Hello, Kate.

Hmm. He was filling me in on the plot to take control of DiMera.

Keep your voice down, will you?

Oh, gee, I didn’t know it was supposed to be a surprise.

You know damn well it is. I should have known Philip would go blabbing to his mummy.

Oh, like you didn’t tell your wife?

That’s different. Sarah’s good at keeping secrets.

Mm, I bet she is.

Nor does she have a financial stake in DiMera, like you do.

Oh, no worries there. I handed over my shares of DiMera to EJ a few years ago, so I am fully divested.

So you support our decision? [dramatic music]

Well, I have reservations. I mean, Kristen can be formidable, but, well, it’s actually just another way of saying that she can be a holy terror with a heart of stone, so…

Well, we can handle her, although I will admit I do wish that we’d struck when she was a bit more vulnerable, you know, when her daughter was missing.

Oh, my God, you do have a heart, don’t you?

Kate, this is serious business. I thought you, of all people, would understand that. Or maybe you’ve lost your competitive edge now that you’re in a somewhat frivolous business.

Frivolous? Hmm. Producing a soap opera is not frivolous. [chuckles] As a matter of fact, running “Body & Soul” is so much more challenging and serious than I could have imagined, especially given what has transpired lately, you know, all the drama behind the scenes.

[sighs]

I can’t believe that woman did this. My God, I would have died if it weren’t for you, Alex. You saved my life.

[sighs] All I did was bring you to the hospital.

Yeah, but if you hadn’t come back for me when you had– I don’t even want to think about it. [monitor beeping] I’m so grateful for you, Alex. And I’m so grateful for you too, Stephanie. I mean, you saved his life. If he weren’t with you when he collapsed, I–

Did you two run into each other in the hallway or something?

Yeah. Yeah, that’s– that’s what happened.

Well, that’s really lucky. Thank God I didn’t lose you.

[light music]

Mmm, mmm. Mm-hmm. I am very happy that you twisted my arm into getting us to share a sundae together. [laughs] It’s cheering me up. Thank you.

I’m glad.

Mm.

Hands. Hands. Hey, you’re such a wonderful sister.

[chuckles] Thanks. You are too.

[chuckles] One more bite. [laughter] Now, come here. Mm. Hug me. Aw. I love you.

Love you too.

[laughs]

Hi, Cat.

Chad, hi. Felicity, this is Chad DiMera. Chad, this is my little sister, Felicity.

Hey, Felicity. It’s very nice to meet you.

Same here.

So, what, are we having sundaes? We celebrating a big occasion?

Kind of.

Yeah. We’re celebrating the fact that I got my new job.

Marlena got the approval.

Yep. It’s all set.

That’s great. I’m really happy for you.

Thank you. [chuckles]

OK, all right, I’m gonna let you two enjoy your sundae and–

Wait, why don’t you two share the sundae?

[dramatic music]

Come on, old girl. You can do this.

[light music]

That is very, very kind of you, Felicity. And as much as I would love to have some of that sundae, I have to go to the office and do some work.

Of course, yeah. Have a good night.

You too. Bye, Felicity.

Worth a try.

Sarah, be reasonable, OK? I mean, if you tell Xander the truth, I’m out on my ass, obviously. And then there won’t be anyone around to keep your husband in check.

Who’s keeping him in check now?

I am. Look, he and I, we haven’t done anything wrong. And as I said, I’ll do my best to make sure it stays that way. But I can’t have…. [growls] [exhales forcefully] You freaking out and threatening me over every single decision we make.

Tough, because in case it wasn’t clear to you, you have to play by my rules. [tense music]

So what are you saying? We have to drop our takeover plans?

No. You can proceed, for now. But if I get any hint that things are not on the up-and-up, I will not hesitate to pull the plug. Do you understand?

Fine, although for the record, I think you’re overreacting.

Oh, I don’t give a damn what you think. I’m calling the shots now. And I can blow you out of the water anytime I want. Don’t forget that.

[door slams]

[sighs]

To be fair, Sarah just told me about how your whole cast and crew were poisoned by some obsessed fan.

Yeah, well, they caught the culprit, and luckily, no one died, so…

[sighs] Thank God for that. But apparently, things were quite dire for Joy Wesley.

Joy? What–is Joy a victim?

Yeah, I was at the hospital when they brought her in.

Well, is she OK?

Sarah said she’s gonna be fine. Yeah, Alex and Stephanie, they found her just in the nick of time.

[sighs] Such a relief, huh? Joy’s gonna be OK.

Yeah. Yeah, yeah, it is a relief.

[sighs] And you know what? I’m glad you didn’t say anything– about us, I mean…

[sighs]

Not that you would have, but obviously, it wasn’t the right time

No, no, definitely not the right time. But when she’s better, I’ll break her the news.

Only if you’re sure.

Have I not made myself clear enough that I’m sure?

No, you’ve made yourself pretty clear.

OK.

[chuckles] I just– I obviously need constant reassurance. [dramatic music]

Well, then allow me to constantly reassure you.

That’s very kind.

I just–I hate being needy…

Mm.

You know, insecure.

Mm. Steph, I’m crazy about you, no matter what. And it just so happens that I’m– I’m a little insecure and needy myself.

Oh, yeah?

Yeah. I think, right now, I need you to tell me that you feel as I do right in this moment.

And how is it that you feel right in this moment?

Like you, Stephanie Johnson, are the only one for me. You’re the only one I want to be with.

Well, allow me to reassure you, Alex Kiriakis, that I feel exactly the same way.

[sighs]

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

The person in all black has a wall of Body and Soul headshot photos with red X’s through them. They then pick up the last photo being of Abe.

Kayla informs Steve that Abe said no one is getting killed and that he thinks Leo just went rogue. Kayla adds that Abe said he would get to the bottom of it. Kayla then passes out in Steve’s arms.

Stephanie asks if Alex really means it that he wants to be with her. Alex assures that he does and goes to kiss Stephanie but he collapses.

Johnny tells Chanel that he doesn’t know why they would do this as they have to know killing off Seth’s character is a huge mistake since he’s the one who allowed them to shoot at the hospital. Johnny decides he will call Leo but he passes out on the couch.

Hattie asks Leo if this is some kind of joke. Leo wonders if it’s The Stalker, the person who sent the poisoned cupcakes, sent Bonnie down the elevator shaft, and has been targeting the cast and crew ever since Hattie put a curse on the show. Hattie guesses that is possible but says attempted murder is no small potatoes. Hattie says she’s starting to feel unsteady and then collapses onto Leo’s bed.

Abe remains at the studio and declares that he thinks he knows who is doing this. Abe goes over the cupcakes and Bonnie’s accident, saying he should’ve realized this sooner.

The person in all black draws a red X through Abe’s photo. Abe then appears in the room and declares he should’ve known it was her. She turns around, revealing Whitley King, the crazy nurse who kidnapped Abe. She questions what took him so long.

At the hospital, Seth Burns reads the fake script and questions thinking they can get away with this. Sarah approaches and asks if everything is okay. Seth responds that he’s so angry he can’t get the words out. Seth informs Sarah that he’s been fired from Body and Soul as they are killing him off. Sarah says she’s sorry as Seth complains that he was doing a great job. Seth brings up how Johnny was just praising him this morning. Seth calls it outrageous and declares that Abe, Kate, and Leo won’t get away with it. Seth brings up that they are only allowed to shoot in the hospital because he signed off on it and says this is the thanks he gets. Sarah encourages him not to take it too personally. Seth argues that they could’ve come up with a more memorable way to get rid of him. Sarah asks how they are going to. Seth calls it so humiliating that he doesn’t even want to tell her. Sarah says she understands but Seth decides he will tell her. Seth then informs her that his character succumbs to carbon monoxide poisoning due to a faulty space heater. Sarah points out that does happen and then brings up that nurse Whitley’s husband died that way.

Whitley tells Abe that it’s so nice of him to visit and asks what took him so long. Abe says this is not a social visit. Whitley notes that he sounds upset. Abe confirms that he is because she’s been attacking the men and women of Body and Soul which Whitley admits she’s guilty of and asks how he figured it out. Abe explains that Kayla wanted to know why they were killing off her character. Whitley guesses she got the latest script. Abe remembered how much Whitley loved her cats and Body and Soul, so it hit him that it had to be her. Whitley guesses he found her out and admits she did it, adding that she would do it again. Abe doesn’t get how she could do this to the cast and crew of a show that she claimed to love. Whitley insists that she does love it, but the show he’s producing is not her Body and Soul. Abe questions what she’s talking about. Whitley accuses him of ruining it so she had to make he and everyone who helped him, pay for it.

Seth tells Sarah that he remembers Whitley holding Abe hostage in her apartment for months. Sarah says what she did to Abe was horrible but she wasn’t in her right mind and suffered a psychotic break after her husband died due to carbon monoxide poisoning along with all of her cats. Seth mocks the idea of his character dying like cats. Seth declares that it would take more than a little bit of poison to take him out. Seth that starts having pains so Sarah asks if everything is okay.

Steve lays Kayla on the couch and tries to wake her up. Steve notes that she’s barely breathing, so he decides to call for help.

Stephanie lays Alex on the couch and wakes him up. Alex asks what’s going on and where he was. Stephanie informs him that he passed out. Alex notes that he doesn’t feel good. Stephanie notes he has a fever, so they need to get him to the hospital right now. Stephanie calls 911 but gets put on hold.

Chanel wakes Johnny up on the couch. Johnny asks what happened. Chanel says he just passed out and asks how he’s feeling. Johnny says he feels out of it, dizzy, and nauseous. Chanel decides to call for help. Chanel says she needs an ambulance right away but is told that it’s going to be awhile because they are overwhelmed with the calls. Chanel says to hell with that and helps Johnny up. Chanel declares that she is taking Johnny to the hospital, herself.

Leo tells Hattie not to mess with him and to get up. Leo then sees she doesn’t have a pulse and she’s not breathing. Leo sits down and talks about Hattie being gone, saying he’s going to miss her so much. Leo calls this a cruel twist of fate as she was so upset about her character dying on the show, that she actually died. Leo insists he wouldn’t have killed her off right after writing her back in. Leo wonders why she had to come in so angry and guesses she stroked out from all that adrenaline. Leo tells Hattie that she did not deserve this and calls her an incredible person, like a crass, bizarro version of Marlena. Leo talks about enjoying spending time with Hattie and calls it an absolute honor to call her a friend. Leo says she was so full of life and asks how she could be dead. Hattie then wakes up, relieving Leo.

Stephanie tells Alex that it could be awhile for the ambulance since they are apparently backed up tonight, so she’s going to take care of him, herself. Stephanie says they first need to get his fever down and gives him water. Alex doesn’t know what he would’ve done without her. Stephanie encourages that help will be there soon.

Steve goes to the hospital and informs Sarah that he just brought Kayla in to the ER. Sarah asks what happened. Steve explain that they were running lines for Body and Soul, then she collapsed. Sarah says that’s strange because the same thing happened to Seth Burns and they are treating him now. Sarah says Seth is conscious but weak with a high fever. Steve says it sounds exactly like Kayla and asks what these symptoms tell Sarah. Sarah thinks someone may have poisoned them.

Abe questions Whitley doing this because they took the show in a new direction. Whitley complains that they made a complete mockery of her favorite show. Whitley reveals that she sent the poisoned cupcakes and thought that would get her point across that their reboot was a complete failure. Whitley hoped they would realize their errors and declares that she had to make permanent changes, starting with Bonnie.

Leo calls for an ambulance but is told there are no available units. Leo tells them to get someone that as soon as they can. Hattie asks if she’s going to die. Leo assures that she is not and encourages her. Hattie asks what the holdup is. Leo says there’s some kind of city wide crisis. Leo says it might take awhile so he will do his best to keep her company. Hattie asks if he said those sweet things about her just because he thought she was dead. Leo assures that he meant every word.

Abe doesn’t get how Whitley could go after Bonnie from inside Bayview. Whitley remarks that invisibility has it’s benefits. Abe asks if the staff weren’t watching her around the clock. Whitley says they were at first, but now they just see her as a grieving widow. She mentions seeing a fan post a photo of a call sheet, so she knew when and where they were shooting. Whitley reveals that she sent the text to Bonnie from a burner phone. Abe questions how she got her number. Whitley says the dark web and on Soap twitter, you can find out anything you want. Abe questions her trying to murder Bonnie. Whitley says she obviously didn’t succeed and then she saw the report that Abe was bringing in Kayla which she calls a travesty and declares that Kayla had to go.

Steve sets Kayla up in a hospital bed and encourages her that Sarah is going to find out what’s making her sick as he tells her to stay with him.

Sarah makes a call to put a rush on the blood work. Chanel brings Johnny in and tells Sarah that Johnny passed out after reading the Body and Soul script. Sarah reveals that she thinks the script was poisoned and says she will fill Chanel in on the way to getting Johnny a room.

Abe questions Whitley being unhappy with Kayla, so she wrote her out of the show. Whitley repeats that she had to go and argues that she and Bonnie are not the Cassandra Lovegood character. Abe argues that she’s taking this way too far. Whitley argues that she’s fighting for her life and says Body and Soul kept her going after losing her husband and her cats which is why they all had to die. Abe asks if she’s saying that’s why Cassandra had to die in the script she wrote. Whitley reveals that she poisoned every actor Abe hired.

Stephanie finishes a call and informs Alex that they are sending someone out shortly. Alex says he’s feeling better. Stephanie notes that his fever is definitely down. Alex credits her. Stephanie jokes that maybe she should’ve gone in to medicine like her mom but Alex says he wouldn’t want her at anybody else’s bed side. Alex then starts coughing so Stephanie gives him more water. Stephanie says she can’t have him dying on her now after they finally got on the same page about their future. Alex assures that she’s not getting rid of him that easy.

Whitley reveals to Abe the experimental drug she got from Bayview that has toxic side effects which she used to spray each of the scripts. Whitley declares that everyone who got a script is probably dead and that Abe is next.

Sarah joins Steve in Kayla’s room. Steve asks if she figured out what Kayla and Seth were poisoned with. Sarah says they think so and that they have the antidote here in the lab, so she should make a full recovery.

Sarah injects Johnny with the antidote and tells Chanel that he should make a full recovery which Chanel is thankful for. Sarah says she has to go check on everyone else who was poisoned but she will be back to check on him. Johnny thanks Sarah as she exits. Chanel tells Johnny that she was so scared that she could’ve lost him. Johnny assures that he will never leave her which Chanel says she will hold him to.

Whitley tells Abe that as soon as the drug touches his skin, he’s a dead man, just like her husband. Abe argues that she doesn’t want to do this. Whitley thought they had a special bond but after what he’s done to Body and Soul, that bond is forever broken and he has to die. Paulina then appears and grabs Whitley, saying not on her watch. After getting Whitley subdued in her hospital bed, Abe and Paulina sit together. Abe brings up texting Paulina his hunch about Whitley. Paulina talks about how chaotic Salem was tonight and declares she was not about to let Abe face Whitley alone, so she jumped in her car and headed straight here. Abe says he’s so grateful to her. Paulina is grateful that he’s alright. Paulina prays that the rest of Whitley’s victims got help in time too…

Johnny tells Chanel that he’s feeling better and his energy is coming back along with his appetite. Johnny mentions not being sure he’d ever hear her call him her husband again after what he did. Chanel says if she wasn’t sure she wanted to give their marriage another shot, almost losing him drove it home that he is so important to her. Chanel thinks going through what they have, coming out the other side and finding their way back to each other will only make them stronger. Johnny agrees and says she means everything to him. Johnny promises to never take her for granted again as they kiss.

A paramedic checks on Hattie in Leo’s room and says she should recover but if it gets any worse, she should get to the hospital. Leo thanks him as he exits. Leo tells Hattie that she’s going to be okay. Leo doesn’t think he realized how much he adored Hattie until he thought she was dead. Leo promises never to take Hattie for granted again as they hug.

The paramedic checks on Alex at Stephanie’s apartment and says he should be fine in a couple hours, but if he gets worse, he should get to the hospital immediately. Stephanie thanks him as he exits. Stephanie can’t believe someone poisoned the script. Alex remarks that Body and Soul is the gift that keeps on giving. Alex says now that he’s coming out of the fog, he remembers what he was going to do before he collapsed. Alex then kisses Stephanie.

Steve tells Kayla that he’s so grateful that she will be okay. Kayla thinks the antidote is working since she feels so much better. Steve couldn’t imagine losing her again and says he loves her so much as they kiss. Kayla questions there being poison on the script which Steve confirms. Kayla asks if there’s any idea who is behind it. Steve says not yet but promises to find out who it was and to make them pay.

Whitley wakes up tied to her hospital bed and starts talking to Abe as if he is a character on Body and Soul. Paulina calls Whitley one sick puppy. Abe acknowledges that she has no one, so he wants to show her some compassion. Paulina comments on Abe’s big forgiving heart and tells him to go ahead. Abe tries to explain that he’s not the Henry Marshall character. Whitley says the heart wants what it wants like Body and Soul and they will always have Pineview.

Update written by Joseph

Hattie visits Bonnie in the hospital. Hattie says she heard Bonnie could be laid up for months and it sounds bad. Hattie brings up Body and Soul, wondering what’s going to happen with their characters. Bonnie is able to inform her that they are having Kayla stand in for her.

Steve and Kayla go home. Kayla talks about not seeing Stephanie that worked up in a long time. Steve talks about how horrible it would’ve been for Marcus to see Jada hauled down to the station on allegations. Steve says it makes no sense as Jada would never do what she’s accused of. Kayla asks if Steve is going to talk to Shawn about his belief that EJ set Jada up. Steve says he’s going to do some legwork first as he doesn’t want EJ to know he’s onto him until he has something solid. Kayla then finds an envelope left at their door.

At the Body and Soul studio, Kate and Abe talk about hoping Kayla is up to playing Cassandra. Kate brings up Alex and Joy and how messy it could get with them sleeping together in real life.

Alex and Joy lay in bed together after having sex. Joy comments that the day at work was actually fun without Chanel. Joy adds that she wishes she never met Johnny that night at Small Bar. Alex points out that there’s no way that she could’ve known they would end up working together. Joy says something told her that night was a big mistake to hook up with Johnny and says she should’ve listened to her gut.

Johnny is at home at the DiMera Mansion, on the phone with Seth Burns. Johnny praises Seth for his work on set and agrees that it’s not the same without Chanel and that he misses her too, as Chanel then enters the living room. Johnny tells Seth he will talk to him tomorrow and hangs up. Chanel hands Johnny an envelope that was at the front door. Johnny asks if she came by for any particular reason. Chanel responds that she wanted to talk about them.

Kayla sees the envelope is from Leo and guesses it’s her first script. Steve jokes about being married to a TV star. Kayla talks about being unable to say no, knowing that Abe was desperate. Steve calls her a good friend. Kayla then opens the envelope.

Abe asks Kate what she’s worried about, pointing out that Alex and Joy are consenting adults. Kate worries that if things go wrong, they will have a big problem since Alex was just sleeping with Stephanie. Stephanie then arrives and asks if she just heard her name.

Joy suggests to Alex that they run lines for tomorrow’s bedroom scene while they are in bed. Alex calls it more fun than doing it at home alone. Joy pulls out the script from an envelope and says this came out of nowhere, revealing her character gets in to a car accident and goes in to premature labor while Alex’s character tries to deliver the baby on the side of the road. Joy continues reading that the baby doesn’t die, but her character does.

Johnny admits to Chanel that he was worried she was having second thoughts. Chanel says she just knew he was working and she needed more time to make sure her head was on straight before they talked. Chanel declares that if they are going to make their marriage work, they need to get to work right away. Chanel tells Johnny to talk to her if he ever doubts her again and to not assume it’s her if he sees Alex having sex with someone. Johnny assures he won’t make that mistake again and he let his jealousy get out of hand. Johnny knows he hurt her. Chanel doesn’t understand how he could ever think she would cheat on him as she thought they were solid and in a good place. Johnny calls it 100% on him and promises that he will never doubt her again. Johnny tells Chanel that he loves her and he can’t live without her. Chanel says she loves him too and she cannot imagine wanting to be with any man but him. Johnny insists on feeling the same.

Kayla reads the script she got and tells Steve that she doesn’t know how to pretend to be in love with another man since Steve’s the only man she wants. Kayla sees that this episode, she only has scenes with Hattie. Kayla guesses she should call her and run lines with her. Kayla decides she doesn’t have the energy for Hattie tonight, so she asks Steve to run the lines with her. Steve says he’s no actor but Kayla insists.

Hattie tells Bonnie that Kayla doesn’t have her spark. Hattie notes that tomorrow will be interesting and brings up Leo giving her a script. Hattie says it seems to have a lot of Cassandra and Charlemagne, so she asks Bonnie to run lines with her.

Alex tells Joy that it’s insane and that they can’t kill her off. Alex continues reading the script and finds out his character gets hit by a car and killed.

The person in all black draws a red X through a photo of Alex.

Abe questions Stephanie not being at Jada’s wedding. Stephanie guesses he hasn’t talked to Paulina and reveals the wedding was a total disaster and didn’t even happen as “Rafe” supposedly found evidence that Jada is a corrupt cop and left her at the altar while Shawn dragged her off to the police station for questioning. Abe can’t believe it or that Paulina would either. Stephanie insists that Jada is incapable of doing the things she’s accused of and that Steve will clear her name. Kate asks if that’s why Stephanie came. Stephanie says she wanted to let them know that she put out a press release about Kayla stepping in as Cassandra and about the new role of Lady Whistleblower. Stephanie brings up the Emmys and then reveals that she will not be around which Abe questions. Stephanie then announces that she quits. Abe questions her quitting her job. Stephanie didn’t want to leave them in a lurch so she reached out to a friend named Andrea who is fantastic with tons of experience. Kate questions prompted her decision. Stephanie promises it has nothing to do with them and she loved every minute of working on the show, but the reason is Alex Kiriakis.

Joy wonders if she and Alex are fired. Alex feels they should’ve been told something before reading it in a script. Alex then reads further and sees that the script is for the air date of April 1, so he believes it must be an April Fool’s joke. Joy isn’t sure. Alex wants to call Abe to be sure but Joy stops him and says she’s okay with whatever happens. Joy declares that the only real positive to come from this whole experience has been meeting Alex. Joy brings up that next week is Valentine’s Day and says she’d love to spend it somewhere else with him.

Chanel tells Johnny that with time and talking things through, she has a new perspective on them and what happened. Chanel sees now that Johnny almost went to bed with Joy and she had a close call with Shawn while they were both angry and lashing out, but at the end of the day, they didn’t break their wedding vows and she thinks there’s a reason for that. Johnny says that night with Joy, he felt naked without his wedding ring and he never wants to take it off again. Johnny tells Chanel that there’s one thing he needs from her to fix their marriage and that’s for her to be there because every night she spends at Paulina’s, she feels further away. Chanel then agrees to come home. Johnny offers to go help her pack her things, but Chanel reveals that she already packed and her bag is in the car.

Steve tells Kayla that he can never say no to her, so he and Kayla run lines.

Hattie runs lines with Bonnie in the hospital and then reads that the script says Cassandra shoots her and she dies. Hattie worries that she finally gets back on the show and Leo is killing her off again.

Steve and Kayla continue running lines. Steve improvises and says he’s going where the scene takes him, joking about his acting. Steve asks if Charlemagne is really dead. Kayla says they just brought her back and questions killing her off, feeling there must be more to this. Kayla then reads on that her character dies too.

Hattie questions how Leo could kill her off again and if Bonnie had anything to do with this. Bonnie says of course not. Hattie decides she will call Leo to give him a piece of her mind but it goes straight to voicemail. Hattie declares that she won’t let Leo do this to her, so she’s going to see him. Hattie tells Bonnie that she’ll be back and exits.

Kate questions Stephanie quitting for Alex. Stephanie clarifies that it’s because of him but not for him as she’s doing it for herself. Stephanie says they were being fair when they said she had to choose between Alex or her job and she realizes now that keeping her job was a reflective choice that she regrets. Kate guesses that’s now that she’s no longer with Philip. Stephanie responds that she had no business being with Philip when she wasn’t ready to move on and she doesn’t think Alex was either. Abe asks if she’s talked to Alex about this. Stephanie says she has and whether they are on the same page or not, she knows she’s making the right decision. Kate wishes she could agree. Stephanie adds that she knows Alex is with Joy now, so if they don’t wind up together, at least she knows she tried.

Alex asks if Joy wants to take a Valentine’s trip. Joy brings up that her mom has been bugging her to visit so she thought New York could be fun. Alex calls meeting the parents a big step. Alex then flashes back to talking to Stephanie about how Stephanie was with Philip because of Alex being with Joy and Alex was with Joy because Stephanie was with Philip. Alex tells Joy that it’s maybe too fast. Joy calls it just an idea and says they can go somewhere else or just stay here. Joy asks if he does want to celebrate Valentine’s Day with her. Alex assures that he does. Alex then gets a text from Stephanie asking if he’s free to meet up because she needs to talk to him. Alex tells Joy that he should get going. Joy asks about tomorrow’s script. Alex says it’s an early call time and he’s tired. Joy says he could stay here but Alex says they know he wouldn’t get much sleep then. Alex tells Joy that he will see her tomorrow and exits, leaving Joy disappointed.

Johnny excitedly tells Chanel that he will go get her bags out of the car and help her unpack as he can’t believe they will be sleeping under the same roof tonight. Johnny wants Chanel to know that they don’t have to sleep in their bed tonight and he wants whatever she’s comfortable with. Chanel agrees to take it one day at a time. Johnny tells her that he’s missed her so much as they hug and then end up kissing. Johnny goes and retrieves Chanel’s bag. Johnny opens the envelope to read the new script from Leo and is shocked to read that he killed off Seth Burns’ character. Johnny worries that Seth will be devastated.

The person in all black draws a red X through a photo of Seth Burns.

Alex goes to see Stephanie at her apartment. Stephanie apologizes for the cryptic text and says she just wanted to talk to him in person. Stephanie informs him that she quit Body and Soul, feeling she had to go for it even if they didn’t finish their conversation. Stephanie tells Alex that she has feelings for him and she’s not trying to pressure him, but she knew if they were ever going to have a shot, it wasn’t going to happen while she was publicist for Body and Soul, so she had to follow her heart. Alex doesn’t know what to say. Stephanie says he doesn’t have to say anything as she knows he’s with Joy and that’s a complication. Alex says he thought he and Joy were still just getting to know each other casually, but she’s suddenly talking about taking a Valentine’s Day trip. Alex assures he does not want to do that at all, so he knows what he has to do. Alex declares that he has to let Joy down gently, because he just wants to be with Stephanie.

Kate can’t believe Stephanie just quit on them without any notice. Abe says he’s sorry to see her go. Kate blames everything going wrong ever since Hattie cursed the show. Abe encourages Kate to go home and get some rest. Kate tells him to do the same. Abe says he’ll finish the schedule and be right behind her.

Kayla wonders to Steve if this whole thing is her fault since she told Abe that she didn’t really want to do it, but questions killing the character off. Kayla wishes she was talked to about it first. Steve suggests she call him and find out. Kayla then calls Abe and says she was just going over the script tomorrow and she’s a bit confused. Abe says he will help if he can. Kayla informs him that it says Cassandra is being killed off which Abe questions. Kayla explains that it says her character shoots Charlemagne and then her cat ends up stepping on the trigger, shooting her in the heart. Abe has no idea what she’s talking about. Kayla says it was in the script that was waiting for her when she got home. Abe says this must be Leo going off on his own again without running it by them. Kayla asks what to do. Abe tells her to hang in there and he’ll get to the bottom of this.

Hattie goes to see Leo and informs him that she just got her latest script and it says Cassandra kills her dead. Leo says it doesn’t and that he did not write that. Hattie shows him the script. Leo mocks it and questions where it came from. Hattie says it was delivered to her in an envelope like always. Leo says it didn’t come from him, so Hattie questions who did.

The person in all black draws a red X through a photo of Leo.

Joy remains in bed, reading an article about Valentine’s Day when she starts to get dizzy. Joy decides she should get a drink, but when she gets up, she passes out on the bed.

Stephanie asks if Alex really means it that he wants to be with her. Alex assures that he does and goes to kiss Stephanie but he collapses.

Kayla informs Steve that Abe said no one is getting killed and that he thinks Leo just went rogue. Kayla adds that Abe said he would get to the bottom of it. Kayla then passes out in Steve’s arms.

Johnny tells Chanel that he doesn’t know why they would do this as they have to know killing off Seth’s character is a huge mistake since he’s the one who allowed them to shoot at the hospital. Johnny decides he will call Leo but he passes out on the couch.

Abe remains at the studio and declares that he thinks he knows who is doing this.

The person in all black has a wall of Body and Soul headshot photos with red X’s through them. They then pick up the last photo being of Abe.

Interview with Josh Stamberg, Jacqueline Christy and Miriam Shor of the movie “Magic Hour” by Suzanne 2/5/25

This is a very entertaining and interesting film, especially for women, or for anyone who wants to make movies. It’s premiering today at the Santa Barbara Film Festival and will also show there tomorrow. I really enjoyed speaking to the writer/director/producer, who seems very down-to-earth, and the film’s main star, Miriam Shor, as well as the actor who plays her husband, Josh Stamberg.  We had a couple of great chats.  I hope that they will make the movie available outside of the film festival at this point, so you can all see it!

SYNOPSIS

Harriet, a once-promising filmmaker, is stuck in the suburbs of New Jersey. Alienated from her cheating
husband and spurned by her teenage daughter, she secretly enrolls in film school. She leads a double life
and loves the grueling yet exhilarating world of student filmmaking. But, when she gets fired off her own
film and found out by her daughter, Harriet must decide if her life’s ambition is pure folly or a dream
worth saving.

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

Six years ago, at the age of not-22, I decided to go to film school – and this movie is what happened.
OK, Magic Hour is not precisely what happened. The film is a highly fictionalized account of what
happens when, after many years of procrastination and self-recrimination, one puts their dream to the
test. The adventures and self-reckoning I experienced going back to film school with classmates half my
age are at the root of my inspiration for Magic Hour. Beginning again is exciting but humbling, and no
reality can live up to the imagined perfection of a dream. Ultimately, I found the beautiful, supportive
film tribe I had hoped for, and in this film, I attempt to depict all of that with love (and gentle satire).
When I had my first few brushes with the professional filmmaking world, I pined (as the protagonist
Harriet does) for the love-fest of film school. On professional film sets, I witnessed forms of bullying and
misogyny that I had seen in the corporate world, but I had found blissfully absent at film school. I knew it
was possible – and better – to create films without that bullying culture. Magic Hour posits a world in
which kindness rules the day, “even in the goddamned film business.”
While Harriet’s estranged husband, her boss, her cinematographer, and the rival Lacrosse coach all
believe they live in a “dog-eat-dog” world in which kindness equals weakness. Harriet challenges that
idea with leadership that is fuelled by creativity and collaboration.
This movie is for timid, neurotic people with a huge dream that they are absolutely certain they can
never achieve. I hope my audience will see themselves in the hopeful and hapless lead character, and
feel the excitement of their own untested dreams; the lure of unknown adventure and the endless
potential within them. I’d love the audience to leave the theater awake and glowing with a reignited
connection to their own powerful destiny.
The magic hour is a time of transition. The beloved beauty of “magic hour” light comes from this
transition into the mysterious unknowability of what might come next.

—Jacqueline Christy

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Hattie went to see Bonnie at the hospital. She asked Bonnie what she thought would happen with the show. Bonnie couldn’t answer her because her mouth was wired. Hattie said she didn’t think Kayla would do a good job in Bonnie’s role. She pulled out the script and read that her character was going to die. A furious Hattie called Leo, but he didn’t answer the phone. She left to find Leo. Steve and Kayla talked about what happened at the wedding. They thought the corruption charges against Jada didn’t make sense. She asked if he was going to talk to Shawn, but he said he would wait until he got more information. They talked about Kayla’s script and how she’s going to be on the show. Kate and Alex talked about the show. When she brought up Alex and Joy’s relationship, she let him know that things could go wrong when workers get together. Stephanie showed up and told them about Jada’s wedding and what happened to her. She told Kate and Abe about putting out a press release about Kayla taking over the role of Cassandra. She said she handled the Lady Whistleblower story as well. Kate thanked for her hard work. Stephanie said she was quitting. She said she enjoyed working there, but she wanted to have a relationship with Alex. Alex being with Joy may keep them from getting together. Kate said things have been going wrong ever since Hattie put a curse on the show. Abe said they needed to rest. Kate decided to leave, but Abe had some things to do. Kayla called Abe to asked why Cassandra was dying. Abe didn’t know the character was dying and said he would take care of it.

Alex and Joy talked about the show. While they were talking, she told him she wished she never met Johnny. Alex said she didn’t know what was going to happen. When they rehearsed their lines, they found out Joy’s character was going to go into premature labor and die. Alex read that his character was going to die too. Joy said they could handle it later. She wanted to focus on hooking up with him and asked if he wanted to spend Valentine’s Day with her. He thought about his conversation with Stephanie about them getting together. When he agreed to spend Valentine’s Day with her, he got a text from Stephanie asking him to get together. He ended up leaving Joy’s place. Chanel went to see Johnny to talk about their marriage. She said they needed to work on talking to each other so they wouldn’t end up in this position again. Johnny agreed to talk to her and told her how much he loved her. They said they wanted to be together. Chanel said he almost slept with Joy, and she almost slept with Shawn, but nothing happened. He said he didn’t want to take his wedding ring off again and wanted one thing from her. Chanel wondered what he wanted. Johnny said he wanted her to come home. She agreed to come home. He suggested that they didn’t have to sleep in the same bed. She said they would take things one step at a time. Alex went to Stephanie’s place. She told him she quit the show and admitted to having feelings for him. Stephanie said she wasn’t trying to pressure him. When Alex was about to say something, Stephanie said she knew he was with Joy. He told her about Joy’s plans for Valentine’s Day. Despite his plans with Joy, Alex said he wanted to be with Stephanie. Hattie found Leo and told him about her character dying. Leo said he didn’t write the script. He said the person messing with the script might have been the one who sent the cupcakes. While they were talking, she passed out. Joy’s vision became blurry and she passed out. While Steve and Kayla were talking, she passed out. Alex and Stephanie passed out. Abe looked at the script and realized who was sabotaging the show.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[tense music]

So what did Abe say?

He said no one’s getting killed, and he thinks that Leo just went rogue.

Well, it sounds like Leo.

Yeah, and Abe said he was going to get to the bottom of it. [sighs]

Sweetness, are you OK?

I just feel kind of– I don’t know. I–

Oh, baby. Hey. Oh.

So you want to be with me? You really mean that?

[sighs] Of course I do. [soft music]

Alex, what’s wrong? Alex. Alex. Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Oh, my God!

I–I don’t understand why they would do this. They have to know that killing off Seth is a huge mistake. He’s the one who gave us permission to shoot at the hospital. If he revokes that, we’re–we’re screwed.

You’re right.

[sighs] I’m going to call Leo right now. [eerie music]

[groans]

Johnny!

So what is this, some kind of a joke?

Oh, my God. What if it’s the stalker?

What stalker?

The evil SOB who sent those poisoned cupcakes and the text to Bonnie sending her to the elevator– the person who has been targeting the cast and crew of this show since you put a curse on it.

Oh, yeah, I guess that’s possible. But attempted murder– I mean, that’s no small potatoes. And I know they were killing me off on the show, but at least I wasn’t going to die in real life, you know? [tense music] Although I’m feeling a little unsteady. Whew.

You are suddenly looking a little green around the gills.

Mm. I just–[sighs] [grunting] [tense music]

Oh, my God. I think I know who’s doing this.

The cupcakes, Bonnie’s accident. I should have realized this sooner. I should have known it was you.

Hello, Abe. What took you so long?

[soft orchestration]

announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[tense music]

You’ve got to be kidding me. Oh, do they think they can pull this crap on Seth Burns and get away with it?

Everything OK, Seth?

Far from it. Dr. Kiriakis, I have been– oh, damn. I am so angry I can’t even get the words out.

Take your time.

I, in the most insulting and outrageous way possible, have been fired.

From the hospital?

No. Worse. From “Body & Soul.” They’re killing me off.

Oh. Oh, wow. Yeah, I’m sorry. I know how much you like being on that show.

And I was doing a great job. I mean, everyone tells me I could have a future as an actor. That’s how– [grumbles] convincing I was. Just this evening, the director tells me, no one could bring Dr. Blake Lamoray to life like I do. Did you see last Wednesday’s episode? OK, I got a lot to say in that one, and I didn’t flub a single line.

I–I did not see it, but I’m sure that you were very convincing, like you said.

And you know how I started? As an under five. Yeah, that meaning that I had fewer than five lines an episode. But I so impressed the powers that be that they almost immediately upgraded me to a day player, meaning I have a major role. I’m on my way to being a leading man. And now this.

It is–it’s so unfair.

It’s more than unfair. It’s outrageous. They’re not going to get away with it.

Who is they?

Abe Carver, Kate Brady, and Leo Stark, the hack that wrote this drivel. I mean, have they forgotten that the only reason they’re allowed to shoot in this hospital is because I signed off on it?

Yeah, that was–it was very gracious of you.

No, it certainly was, especially because I knew the risk involved. But, see, I agreed to it for the love of the craft. And this is the thanks they gave me.

Yeah. Well, I wouldn’t take it too personal. I mean, I don’t know much about soap operas, but they– they kill off the characters pretty regularly, don’t they?

Not when you are as popular as I know I am. My mother told me that the only reason that her friends still watch it is when I’m on it. And if those tasteless producers were going to get rid of me, the least they could do was come up with a more memorable way to do it, like Blake goes over a waterfall atop Pinetano Mountain or his jet ski blows up on Lake Pineview.

How are they going to do it?

Oh, it’s so humiliating, I don’t even want to tell you.

Oh, yeah. Well, I get that. I totally understand. And I’m–I’m so sorry again. So I’ll just–

No, it’s OK. It’s fine. I’m going to tell you. Dr. Blake Lamoray, chief of staff of Pineview Hospital, succumbs to carbon monoxide poisoning due to a faulty space heater. Have you ever heard anything more banal, more–more unrealistic? I mean, the guy’s not an idiot, right? So why would he be so damn careless?

I mean, actually, it’s not that unrealistic. I mean, people do die that way, sadly. Nurse King’s husband– it happened to him.

[sighs]

So nice of you to visit, Abe. What took you so long?

This is not a social visit, Whitley.

Oh, dear. You sound upset.

You’re damn right I’m upset. You’ve been attacking the men and women who work on “Body & Soul.”

Guilty as charged. How did you figure it out?

Kayla Johnson wanted to know why we were killing off Kassandra.

Ah, she got the latest script.

In which Charlemagne’s cat steps on a gun and it goes off, shooting Kassandra through the heart.

Sasquatch.

I beg your pardon?

Oh, that’s the name of the kitty in the script– Sasquatch. Oh, but back to you figuring out all the details.

Yeah. Well, I remembered how much you love your cats and “Body &” Soul. So then it suddenly hit me. It had to be you.

Oh. [laughs] That’s one of my favorite songs. Oh. Well, anyway, I guess you found me out. You’re right. I did it. And you know what, Abe? I’d do it again.

I don’t get it. How could you do this to the cast and crew of a show you claim you love?

I do love “Body & Soul.” I do with all of my heart. But that show that you’re producing– well, that’s not my “Body & Soul.”

What the hell are you talking about?

You ruined it, Abraham Carver. You and all those people who brought that back. So I had to make you and everyone who’s helped you pay for what you’ve done. [tense music]

Oh, I remember Whitley King. She held Abe Carver hostage in her apartment for months.

Yeah. Yeah, I mean, what she did to Abe was horrible, but she wasn’t in her right mind. She had–she’d suffered a psychotic break after, you know, what happened to her. Her husband died tragically from carbon monoxide poisoning, and so did all her cats.

So I’m supposed to die like a bunch of cats?

Well, it was her husband, like I said– a human being.

Well, still and all, it’s hardly dramatic. They probably won’t even cover it in the soap press.

Well, you could ask Leo Stark. I mean, I bet he could jazz it up a bit.

Oh, I plan to. But I’m going to tell you this. When it comes time for me to kick the bucket for real, it won’t be lame and pathetic like in that script. Mm-mm, no, ma’am. It’s going to take more than a little bit of poison to take out Seth Burns. [coughs] [grunts] [tense music] [grunts]

Seth? Seth, is everything OK?

[groans]

Sweetness, sweetness. Hey, hey, Kayla? Kayla, I need you to open your eyes. [tense music]

Barely breathing. Need some help. [phone beeping] Yeah, listen, my wife just collapsed. She’s not responding. Hurry!

Alex. Alex, wake up.

Steph, what’s going on?

There you are.

Where was I?

You passed out.

I don’t feel good.

Oh, yeah, you got a fever. We need to get you to the hospital right now. [phone beeping] Yes, this is– what the hell? They put me on hold.

Johnny. Johnny. Johnny, talk to me.

(WHISPERING) What happened?

I don’t know. You were just–you collapsed, and then you passed out.

Help me up?

Yeah.

[grunts]

You good? How are you feeling?

Uh–out of it, dizzy, nauseous.

OK, you know what? I’m going to call for help. [phone beeping] Hello? Hi. I’m calling from the DiMera estate, and I’m going to need an ambulance here right away. I’m sorry. What do you mean, it’s going to be a while? My husband just fainted dead away– you know what?

What’s wrong?

I don’t know. They’re saying– I don’t know, something must be going on because they’re overwhelmed with calls, and they want us to wait, but to hell with that. Come on. Come on, get up. Take my arm. You can just–

[grunts]

–lean on me, OK? All right. We’re just going to walk.

Where?

I am taking you to the hospital my damn self. Come on.

Hattie? Girl, do not mess with me. I still have PTSD from finding Sonny with that steak knife in his back. Get up. Please get up? [tense music] Oh, God. [sighs] She doesn’t have a pulse. Ah. Ah. She isn’t breathing. Oh, my God. Hattie! Ah. Ah. Oh, Hattie. Oh. Hattie–

You were so funny. And you were such a gre– well, no, you weren’t a great actress, but you weren’t bad. Hammy, but you never phoned it in. And yes, you could be such a diva, but you made it worthwhile because you had such spunk, such a joie de vivre. I’ll never forget watching “Drag Race” with you, eating those revoltingly salty pork rinds. Oh, did they bloat you. God, did they bloat you. And now, you’re gone. Oh, Hattie, I’m going to miss you so much. [sighs]

What a cruel, cruel twist of fate. The irony is positively Shakespearean. You were so upset thinking you were going to die on the show, which you were not, that you actually died. I wouldn’t kill off Charlemagne, not after just writing her back in. I hope you believe that. Why did you have to come in here so angry like that? You probably stroked out from all that adrenaline. Well, either that or all that sodium and cholesterol finally caught up with you. The LDL. Or is it the HDL? I can never remember. But you did not deserve this. Yes, you could be incredibly annoying and a total diva, as I already mentioned. But you were an incredible person, kind of like a crass, bizarro version of Marlena. I absolutely adored spending time with you, laughing, talking. It was an absolute honor to call you a friend. You were so full of life. How could you be dead?

Will you stop your blubbering?

Hattie! Oh, thank God! You’re alive! [sighs]

They said it could be a while for the ambulance. For some reason, they’re really backed up tonight. So looks like I’m going to have to take care of you myself. But it’s OK. The dispatcher gave me excellent instructions on what to do until they get here. First and foremost, we need to get your fever down.

[coughs]

Oh, are you thirsty?

[clears throat]

Yeah, um–ice water.

[coughs] Thank you, Steph. I honestly don’t know what the hell I would have done without you. [clears throat]

Help is going to be here soon. Let’s just get back to cooling you down.

OK. [sighs] [somber music]

Sarah, thank God.

What is it? What’s wrong?

I just brought Kayla into the ER. They told me I could find you up here.

What happened?

I don’t know. She got her first script for “Body & Soul.” We were running the lines, and she just– she collapsed.

That’s strange. Seth Burns was reading his script when he collapsed.

What? When?

Just a few minutes ago. I was standing right here with him when it happened. They’re treating him now.

How’s he doing?

He’s conscious, but he’s weak. He’s–he’s lightheaded. He’s nauseous. He’s got a really high fever.

Heart racing?

That, too.

That sounds exactly like Kayla. So these symptoms– what do they tell you?

Well, I can’t say for sure, but I think someone may have poisoned them. [somber music]

[sighs] You did this because we took the show in a new direction?

A new direction? A new direction? Is that what you call making a complete mockery of my favorite show? The plot lines are abysmal. The sets are trash. The recasts are a joke. I thought sending my cupcakes would get the message across.

So you poisoned me and half the cast and crew to make a point?

Which is that your reboot is a complete failure. And I needed you to see the error of your ways before “Body & Soul” was damaged beyond repair, even if that meant making sweeping changes to your cast.

Sweeping changes.

I had to clean house, permanently, starting with Bonnie Kiriakis. [tense music]

Yeah, I–I understand that there are no available units. Do you understand that I am here with Charlemagne Delacroix? Huh? No, that is not a Chicago Bulls draft pick. She’s a soap opera goddess. Just–just get somebody here as soon as you can. [sighs]

Am I going to die?

You most certainly are not.

[sighs] I sure do feel like it. I feel like I’m just hot as a firecracker all over.

Well, just keep that cold compress on your képi, and think cool thoughts.

What’s the holdup?

I don’t know. Some kind of city-wide crisis. Reminds me of this time I was in South Beach, and I called a rideshare to take me to a place called Club Caliente, which was anything but. Hour later, still no ride. Turns out traffic was at a standstill because somebody’s pet spider monkey had escaped and was running wild through the streets. So I, in that Floridian humidity, a.k.a. my hair’s worst nightmare, had to walk. All of that is to say this might take a while, so we’re just going to have to do our best to keep you comfy.

Hey, Lenny.

Hmm?

Can I ask you something?

Yeah, anything.

Well, all that sweet stuff you were saying about me there– was it just because you thought I was about to meet that big network executive in the sky?

No. I meant every word, kiddo. [soft music]

I don’t get it. How–how did you go after Bonnie from in here, inside Bayview?

Invisibility has its benefits, Abe.

Invisible. But wasn’t the staff watching you around the clock?

Well, at first, they were. But now, everyone sees me as some poor, grieving woman– eccentric, but mostly harmless. And then when super fan Jason32 posted a photo of one of the actors holding her call sheet, all I had to do was zoom in and I could see when and where and what you were shooting. And then I sent that text to Bonnie Kiriakis from a burner phone.

How’d you get her number?

Hello. It’s called the dark web. [laughs] Come on. That and Soap Twitter–you can find out anything you want.

And you tried to murder Bonnie.

But I didn’t succeed, obviously. The next thing I know, Soap Hub is reporting that you’ve brought on Kayla Johnson.

It was a temporary recast.

It was a travesty. A doctor moonlighting as my Kassandra Lovegood. Oh, no. Hell, no. Kayla had to go. [somber music]

It’s OK, sweetness. Sarah’s going to figure out what’s making you so sick. Just stay with me. Stay with me, baby.

I need you to put a rush on those blood tests. The lives of our head administrator and our chief of staff depend on it. OK.

Sarah?

What happened to him?

I–I don’t know. All of a sudden, he just passed out.

OK, what was he doing right before–

The script.

“Body & Soul.” He–he had just got a script delivered, and he was reading it.

[sighs] Not another one.

Another one? What are you talking about?

I think that Johnny’s script was poisoned.

What?

Yes. We need to get him into a room. I’m going to fill you in on the way. Come on.

So you weren’t happy with Kayla, so you wrote her out of the show?

Like I said, she had to go, just like the other one.

You mean–you mean Bonnie.

She’s not Kassandra Lovegood.

I know how passionate you are about “Body & Soul,” but this– you’ve taken this way too far.

Too far? I’m fighting for my life.

What are you talking about?

“Body & Soul” is not just some TV show to me. It’s–it’s what kept me going after I lost my husband and my cats. That’s why they all had to die. [dramatic music]

So you’re saying that’s why Kassandra had to die in that script you wrote.

No. I mean, I poisoned every last one of those actors you hired. With this.

OK. Thanks for the update.

What’s the word?

They’re sending someone out shortly. How are you feeling?

Better.

Good. Yeah. Yeah, your fever’s definitely down.

Thanks to you.

You think I missed my calling, going into PR? [laughs] Could be right. Maybe I should have gone into medicine, like my mom.

No. No way.

Hey, after that amazing, heroic, life-saving care I just administered, you don’t think I’d make a good doctor?

I think you’d make a fantastic doctor. No question about it. I just don’t want you at anybody else’s bedside. [clears throat] [coughs]

OK, easy. Easy there. OK. All right. Can’t have you dying on me now, Kiriakis. Not after we finally– finally got on the same page about our future.

[sighs] You’re not getting rid of me that easy, Doc.

What is that?

Oh, it’s an experimental drug they’ve been testing here at Bayview for psychotic behavior. Oh, but it has a toxic side effect.

How did you get your hands on it?

[laughs] I’m a nurse, Abe. I know my way around a drug closet.

So you sprayed that on the script you sent to Kayla.

Oh, not just Kayla. I sprayed every script that you sent to every actor. You get a spritz, and you get a spritz, and you get a spritz. But I wore gloves so I didn’t accidentally poison myself.

So anyone that– anyone that handled one of those scripts that you sent out–

Is probably dead. And you’re next. [tense music]

Sarah. Did you figure out what Kayla and Seth Burns were poisoned with?

We think so. And more importantly, we had the antidote right here in the lab.

That’s great news.

Yeah.

So she’s going to be OK?

Yeah, as soon as this makes its way into her system, she– she should make a full recovery. [somber music]

All right. Once this makes its way through Johnny’s system, he’s going to be just fine.

[sighs] Oh, thank Lord. And thank you, too, Sarah.

You’re very welcome.

So you’re sure that he’s going to be OK.

Yeah, Johnny’s going to make a full recovery. Listen–

Yeah?

I need to go check on everyone else that was poisoned tonight and make sure that they’re being treated, OK? I’m going to come back and check on you.

OK.

OK.

Thank you so much, Sarah.

Of course.

I was so scared, Johnny. I could have lost you.

No, not a chance. I am never going to leave you, Chanel.

Yeah. Well, I’ll hold you to that.

OK.

This is a concentrated amount of the drug. As soon as it touches your skin, you’re a dead man. Just–just like my husband.

Whitley, now, you don’t want to do this.

I thought that we had a special bond. And–but after what you’ve done to “Body & Soul,” that bond is forever broken.

Whitley–

You have to die.

Please.

Oh, no, you don’t, heffa. Not on my watch!

[sighs] You know, I texted you my hunch about Whitley. I thought you–

I know. I know. I know. You thought I was going to call the police and have them meet you here, and I did. I did. But Salem is such a mess tonight, even the mayor was going to have to wait.

A lot of people in distress.

Mm-hmm, thanks to her. When that lunatic was locked up in here after kidnapping you, I thought that we were done.

Well, she wasn’t.

Ugh. And I was not about to let you face her alone, so I jumped in my car and headed straight here.

[chuckles] My precious wife.

[chuckles]

I’m so grateful to you.

Oh, and I am so grateful that you’re all right, my darling. Oh, I just pray that the rest of Whitley’s victims got help in time, too.

Whew. Wow. You know what? I–I’m already feeling better. My energy’s coming back, my appetite. Do you think Sarah would let me have a cheeseburger?

[laughs]

What? What’s wrong?

Nothing. Just looking at my husband.

I like hearing you call me that. After what I did, I– I wasn’t sure I ever would again.

[sighs] Look, Johnny, I– if I wasn’t already sure that I wanted to give our marriage another shot, almost losing you just now, it really drove it home for me. You are so important to me, Johnny. And I think that going through what we just went through and finding our way to the other side and finding our way back to each other is going to make our relationship even stronger.

I agree. And you, my beautiful wife– I– you mean everything to me. And I promise you that I’m never going to take you for granted again.

Yeah, well, that goes double for me. [laughs]

All right, you should be fine in a couple hours. But if her conditions worsen, get her to a hospital immediately.

Yes, sir. I know you’re not in the military, but what you do, saving lives– that deserves to be saluted. So I will keep an eye on Hattie, and thank you for your service. Heavens to Betsy Ross am I relieved. My favorite leading lady is going to be OK.

You better not let Bonnie hear you say that.

[laughs] Oh, Hattie, I don’t think I realized how much I adored you until I thought you were dead.

Oh, that’s all it took, huh?

I will be sure to never, ever take you for granted again. I promise.

Oh. Back at you, Lenny.

Come here. [soft music]

You should be fine in a couple hours. But if his condition worsens, get him to a hospital immediately.

Will do. Thank you so much for coming. Oh, my God. I can’t believe that someone poisoned your script.

“Body & Soul,” man, the gift that keeps on giving.

Yeah, I’ll say.

You know, now that I’m starting to come out of this fog a little bit, I did remember something.

What?

Something I was going to do before I collapsed.

Alex, you’re going to have to tell me. It’s been a whirlwind. What were you about to do? [sweet music]

I’m so grateful you’re going to be OK.

I think the antidote is working. I’m really–I’m really feeling so much better.

Good. That’s so good because I– I couldn’t imagine losing you again. I love you so much, baby. [monitor beeping]

I love you, my darling.

Yeah? What about Rhett?

[laughs] What about him?

Aren’t the two of you supposed to get hitched?

I’m already married. And quite happily, I might add.

Don’t you forget it.

Never. So am I to understand that there was poison on my script?

Looks that way.

Do you have any idea who’s behind it?

Not yet, but I can promise you this. I’m going to find out who it was, and I’m going to make them pay.

[whimpers] How could you do this to me, Henry?

Henry?

After all that we’ve been to each other, you expect me to call you Commissioner Marshall?

What is she babbling about?

Henry Marshall. He’s a character on the show.

[laughs] Should have guessed.

Poor thing.

She is definitely one sick puppy.

She has–she has no one. I want to show her some compassion.

Oh, there he is, my Abraham, with his big, forgiving heart. OK, go ahead. Do it. Just do your thing.

Whitley–

Hm?

I’m not Henry Marshall.

Oh, you expect me to believe that you’re his twin brother, William. Well, I’m not buying it.

I am sorry. I truly am.

Oh, well, [chuckles] that’s OK. You know, the heart wants what it wants. Kind of like “Body & Soul,” right? We’ll always have Pineview, though, right?

We will always have Pineview.

OK. OK. OK.

Daytime Soap Opera Short Recaps

Days of Our Lives logo

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Belle thanked Shawn for testifying in court instead of going to Rafe and Jada’s wedding. They talked about what happened at the bachelor and bachelorette parties. Shawn told her that Chanel flirted with him, but he didn’t sleep with her unlike her and EJ. Belle realized that she made a mistake with EJ. Shawn stopped her from explaining by telling her it wasn’t his business. She assured him that it only happened once. Shawn thought she was lying. He noticed a file and wondered what it meant. Leo jumped up to interrupt the wedding, but Javi tried to stop him. He wanted to tell the secret. Arnold got a text and announced that he couldn’t go through with the wedding. Jada pulled him aside and wanted to know what was going on. He told her that she wasn’t the woman he thought she was. Paulina wanted to know why Rafe stopped the wedding. He said that he lied about what he was doing with EJ. The investigation wasn’t for Sloan. He was investigating Jada. Jada wanted to know why EJ was investigating her. Gabi couldn’t believe what happened. She told Javi that Rafe wouldn’t go behind Jada’s back. Javi looked in Leo’s direction, so she wanted to know what was going on. Arnold told Jada that EJ blamed her for losing his job, and he wanted to find any dirt on her. She understood why EJ wanted to investigate her, but she couldn’t believe he would work with him. Arnold said it was easy money, and he didn’t think he would find anything on her. He let her know that he found incriminating evidence against her. Stephanie heard what he said and denied that Jada did anything wrong. Paulina defended Jada too. Arnold said he didn’t want to believe it either, but he had the evidence on his phone. His informant told him that Jada broke rules. While he was investigating her, he found a trail of lies and deception. Jada demanded to see the file when Shawn showed up with it in his hand. Shawn found it and didn’t know how it got to the station. Arnold told them that his informant probably left it on the desk. Shawn said the cases happened while Jada was commissioner. Rafe said that Jada went rogue. Jada said she would never do anything like that. She demanded to see the files, but Paulina took them. Jada couldn’t believe what was happening, but Paulina had to do the right thing. He said the evidence was true and wanted to stop the wedding while she’s under investigation. Jada wanted Shawn to back her up. Paulina asked Shawn to take Jada to the station.

Gabi confronted Arnold about what happened at the wedding. She didn’t understand why he would go against the woman he loved. He didn’t think she should blame him for doing the right thing. She wanted to discuss what happened later. Javi and Leo approached Arnold about what happened. Arnold told them that finding out his fiancee was corrupt surprised him. Javi reminded him that he cheated on Jada with a stripper. EJ hoped that Arnold didn’t screw up his plans for Jada. Belle arrived at the DiMera mansion to talk about what happened with them. Shawn and Marlena didn’t approve of them being together. She told him that Shawn ripped into her about being with him. Belle wanted to talk about their relationship moving forward. EJ told her that Shawn would have to accept other men being in her life. He thought her concern was really about Sami. She thought that Sami would show up if more people found out about them. Belle assured him that they wouldn’t be together again. They flirted with each other and kissed. Belle stopped the kiss, but EJ wanted to go upstairs. She agreed to go upstairs with him. Jada thought it was ridiculous for Paulina to question her. Paulina remembered how hard it was for her when Rafe was in a coma. Jada couldn’t believe that Rafe would investigate her. Shawn tried to defend him, but she didn’t understand why he would go after her. He took her into the interrogation room to look at the evidence against her. After EJ and Belle made love, he received a text from Arnold stating that Jada was taken into custody.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Paulina begins the wedding ceremony of Jada and “Rafe”. Paulina asks if anyone objects, so Leo stands up and announces he has something to say. Paulina questions what is going on here. Javi asks Leo what the hell he is doing. Leo reminds Javi that he said “Rafe” might shoot the messenger, so he’ll take the hit. Paulina complains about Leo interrupting while Leo insists this is important. Leo says he has something to tell, but Javi says it’s nothing. Leo asks Javi if he’s sure. Javi thanks Leo for trying to protect him but says it’s his secret to tell. Javi then announces that he has something to say.

At the police station, Belle thanks Shawn for he and JJ being able to take the stand in court. Shawn says he was just doing his job. Belle says she appreciates it, especially since it meant he had to miss Rafe and Jada’s wedding. Belle asks if he thinks it’s too late to go. Shawn doesn’t think they’d appreciate him showing up in the middle of the ceremony. Belle points out that at least he got to celebrate at the bachelor party. Shawn mentions that he could’ve done without Chanel throwing herself at him which Belle questions. Shawn explains that he tracked her down at Small Bar and she was desperate for a friendly face. Belle understands she was drunk and upset at Johnny. Shawn assures that he and Chanel did not sleep together, unlike her and EJ.

EJ declares that everything is in place, so the rest is up to Arnold if he doesn’t screw this up.

Arnold tells Javi that whatever wedding surprise he has in store can wait. Arnold then gets a text from EJ. Jada asks “Rafe” if everything is okay. Arnold tells Javi that it’s going to have to wait because he has something to say now. Jada says he’s scaring her and asks what’s going on. “Rafe” responds that he’s sorry but he can’t marry her, leaving Jada and everyone else shocked. Jada pulls “Rafe” aside and asks what he’s talking about. He responds that he can’t marry her because she’s not the woman he thought she was. Paulina questions what this is about. “Rafe” says he’s sorry to interrupt the ceremony and he didn’t want it to be like this. Jada questions what he means. He says he hates to do this right now. Gabi and Javi question what he’s doing. “Rafe” responds that he’s still processing this all himself. Jada questions what is going on and what was in the text he got. “Rafe” brings up EJ hiring him to find Sloan Peterson and reveals he was lying about that.

Belle tells Shawn that what happened with EJ shouldn’t have happened and calls it a mistake. Shawn says they are divorced so how she spends her time and who she spends it with is her business, so he never should’ve brought it up. Belle points out that he did bring it up so it seems like he’s upset about it. Shawn admits he is because he thought she had better taste which Belle questions. Shawn calls EJ scum. Belle asks if they are grading each other’s sexual partners now. Belle insists that she and EJ are not in a relationship and it was a one time thing. Shawn repeats that it’s her business but Belle feels he has more he’d like to say. Shawn says there’s not but Belle tells him to go ahead and say it because there’s no reason to pull any punches. Shawn responds that as someone who’s dealt with addiction, he’s in tune to when someone is lying. Belle questions him thinking that she’s lying to him about EJ. Shawn clarifies that he thinks she’s lying to herself.

EJ waits at home, hoping Arnold doesn’t mess this up and drops the hammer on Jada.

Jada asks “Rafe” what is on his phone. He responds that it’s about the case. He says EJ was his client but the case was not about Sloan Peterson, it was about Jada. She questions why EJ would hire him to investigate her. Gabi argues that Rafe would never go behind Jada’s back. Gabi asks if there’s something Javi and Leo aren’t telling her but Leo says they know nothing about this. “Rafe” explains that EJ came to him to dig up dirt on her because he blamed her for taking his district attorney job and was desperate to prove that she wasn’t as clean as she seems and he wanted anything he could find to leverage in to getting his job back. Jada doesn’t understand why Rafe would want to help EJ.

EJ texts Arnold not to forget to act like it’s killing him since he’s the tormented groom with a broken heart. Belle shows up and tells EJ that she just came from court. EJ guesses she came to gloat. Belle says that Shawn was a witness and she’s just agitated because he gave her an earful about EJ. Belle says it wasn’t supposed to go like this. EJ understands why she felt uncomfortable seeing Shawn. Belle brings up Shawn walking in on EJ trying to sneak out of her mom’s house this morning. EJ asks if Belle came for an apology. Belle says she came to talk about how they are going to handle their relationship going forward.

Shawn sits at his desk and opens a folder, questioning what this is.

Jada questions why “Rafe” would ever agree to dig up dirt on her for EJ of all people. Paulina argues that she deserves an answer. “Rafe” says he figured it would be easy money because EJ was offering a boatload of cash and he was sure there would be nothing, but the problem is that he found something. Stephanie calls that impossible, asking what he could have possibly found on Jada. Paulina argues that Jada has been nothing but an upstanding citizen. “Rafe” says he didn’t want to believe it either but it’s all right here.

EJ asks what Belle means by handle their relationship. Belle says they don’t have a relationship. EJ points out that she used the word. Belle says she didn’t mean it like that and argues that it was never in her plans to have Shawn find out that they spent the night together. EJ argues that Shawn is a grown man and they are divorced, so he’s going to have to deal with her having a life apart from him. Belle says he’s not the only one and brings up Marlena. Belle worries that it’s out there now, so the more likely that Sami will find out and it’s only a matter of time before she comes back to town. EJ says they discussed that worrying about Sami is a total waste of energy. Belle points out that he didn’t think that way last time. EJ insists he’s over that now and is not going to live in fear of her anymore. Belle thinks they should be prepared because you never know what Sami might do. EJ asks if she came all this way to talk strategy about Sami or if there’s something else on her mind.

Jada asks “Rafe” to tell her what he found. He explains that he talked to a detective on the force and had him take a look at her files. “Rafe” reveals that he found some disturbing instances where rules were bent or broken. Jada calls that not possible. Paulina asks what rules they are talking about. Jada promises to not know what he’s talking about. He repeats that it’s all here and calls it a very disturbing trail of lies and corruption.

Belle asks EJ what other reason she would have for coming over. EJ says he doesn’t know. Belle tells him to forget whatever he’s thinking. Belle tells EJ that whatever happened last night is never happening again and calls it a drunken mistake. Belle argues that she’s the district attorney so she has to carry herself a certain way and make good choices, so she’s leaving. EJ tells her to go ahead then, but they end up kissing instead.

“Rafe” says if it were one case, he might be able to write it off as a simple mistake. Jada calls this all one big mistake. “Rafe” says he wishes he was, but the detective compiled every questionable thing Jada has done and all the evidence against her. Jada demands to see it, saying she will respond to every one and asks where it’s at. Shawn then arrives and announces he has it right here. Gabi questions what Shawn is doing there. Shawn says he was in court, then went back to the station and found this on the desk. Paulina questions what it is. “Rafe” guesses the detective must have left it for Shawn. Shawn explains that it’s several case files from when Rafe was in the hospital and Jada was acting commissioner. Paulina asks what it says. Shawn says he didn’t go over all the details but he did notice issues with some certain events and timelines including evidence and warrants. Shawn reveals that the files seem to show that Jada was rogue during all these investigations. Jada argues that she always followed the law. Shawn says these documents show a history of skirting the rules. Jada shouts that she would never do that. “Rafe” points out that she was under a lot of pressure and didn’t know if he was going to live while she had to prove to everyone that she was capable. Jada says she is capable and swears she would never do anything underhanded. “Rafe” says that’s unfortunately not how it looks. Jada asks to see the files but Paulina thinks she should take them.

Belle tells EJ that they shouldn’t be doing this, repeating that it was a mistake and she just got divorced. EJ points out that her being divorced means she’s free to do whatever she wants, but if she truly doesn’t want this, she should leave before it goes any further but if she does, they should take it upstairs. Belle decides they should go upstairs before she changes her mind, so they do.

Jada questions Paulina believing any of this is true. Paulina talks about how much she always respected and believed in Jada. Jada can’t believe “Rafe” is doing this to her. He says he’s sorry and tells her how much it hurts him. Jada questions him doing it. He claims he took the job from EJ while being so sure he wouldn’t find any dirt but the evidence seems pretty clear cut so he thinks it’s best that they don’t get married while she’s under investigation. Paulina hates to say it but believes he is right as she can’t be affiliated with any kind of wrongdoing or perform this ceremony until they get to the bottom of this situation. Jada cries that this is crazy and not true. “Rafe” wishes that were the case and he never found any of this. Paulina tells Jada they can just hope it’s a terrible misunderstanding. Jada calls it a big ugly lie and asks how Shawn can’t see through this, pointing out that he didn’t even see who left it on his desk. Paulina instructs Shawn to take Jada to the police station for questioning. Stephanie asks if this can’t wait since she’s still in her wedding dress. Paulina insists that the sooner they go through the process, the better it will be. Shawn tells Jada that he’s sorry as he then escorts her away.

EJ and Belle go to his bedroom and continue kissing as they begin to undress each other and kiss on to the bed where they have sex again.

Stephanie, Steve, and Kayla go to the Brady Pub. Stephanie can’t believe Rafe, Shawn, and Paulina let that happen. Stephanie wants to go to the police station but Steve says there’s nothing she can do. Kayla trusts Paulina and Shawn. Stephanie complains that Jada did not do what they are saying. Kayla agrees that she can’t imagine Jada breaking the law to prove herself as commissioner. Steve says that’s why they need to strategize to help her, but first they need to know what “Rafe” found and what evidence they have against her. Stephanie says it has to be a misunderstanding as there’s no other way to explain it. Kayla promises to do whatever they can to help Jada. Stephanie says the worst part is that Jada’s fiancée did this to her.

Gabi confronts “Rafe” and asks why he did this. He claims he had no choice but Gabi argues that he did and that he didn’t have to get involved with EJ in the first place. Gabi demands they go home and talk about this right now but “Rafe” says after the day he’s had, he’s not going home to answer a bunch of questions. Gabi questions him not being in the mood. He says he knows it looks like he’s the bad guy but he’s just trying to do the right thing, so he just needs to think. Gabi tells him they will talk about this later and exits. “Rafe” goes over to Javi and Leo and says he can’t believe this happened as his wedding is ruined. Javi asks if he’s okay. He says he’s not as he just found out his bride is completely corrupt and doing all this shady stuff behind his back. Javi argues that he’s in no position to judge, pointing out that he’s made mistakes of his own, bringing up what he did with the stripper.

Shawn and Paulina bring Jada to the police station. Jada calls this insane, arguing that Paulina can’t possibly believe this is true. Paulina responds that she really doesn’t know. Jada argues that she knows her and that she’s not the type of person to play fast and loose with the law to look good as commissioner. Jada adds that Paulina was with her the whole time that Rafe was in a coma. Paulina suggests those struggles could have led her to cut corners but Jada insists that she didn’t and she was determined to carry on Rafe’s legacy while being afraid he wouldn’t wake up. Jada asks how Rafe could dig up dirt on her while telling her he loves her. Shawn points out that he did say he didn’t think he would find anything. Jada continues to question why Rafe would look for dirt on her in the first place.

“Rafe” tells Javi that he almost forgot Javi was about to tell everyone. Leo intervenes and says he stood up first. “Rafe” brings up the guy code and says what happens at the bachelor party, stays at the bachelor party. “Rafe” tells them that his wedding is in shambles after finding out his bride cheated her way in to his job and now he has to go figure out what he’s going to do with the rest of his life as he walks away, leaving Javi and Leo confused. Javi can’t believe that just went down. Leo thought he had a lock on the craziest wedding interruption in town but that blew it out of the water. Javi asks what to do now, if they still tell Jada that “Rafe” cheated on her since they decided it was the right thing to do. Leo points out that Javi wanted her to know the truth before she committed herself to Rafe and now there’s no wedding. Leo adds that since “Rafe” betrayed Jada twice in 24 hours, he thinks she dodged a bullet. Javi agrees that telling Jada now would just be kicking her while she’s down.

Paulina instructs Shawn to take Jada in to the interrogation room where they can go over all of this, piece by piece. Shawn tells Jada that he’s sorry to do this and asks if she wants to wait for her lawyer. Jada says to just get it over with since her fiancee just tore her apart at their wedding, so the day can’t get any worse as they then head to the interrogation room.

Stephanie tells Steve and Kayla that she doesn’t get it as she thought Rafe was a good guy but then he goes after the woman he loves in this way. Steve notes that he’s been making some questionable decisions lately. Kayla talks about it being hard to believe while Stephanie talks about Jada being one of the best people she knows. Steve says to consider the source and says this has EJ’s filthy fingerprints all over it.

After having sex, EJ asks if Belle still thinks this was a mistake. Belle responds that her brain is not really in thinking mode. EJ jokes that thinking is overrated. They go to kiss again but EJ gets a text from Arnold saying it’s done and that they took Jada to the police department which makes EJ smile. Belle asks if it’s good news. EJ says very.

Arnold returns to his hotel room at the Salem Inn and gets a text back from EJ, telling him it’s shaping up to be a great day.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[soft music]

[gasps] Oh!

[groans]

Honey. Well, I–I– I brought some bonbons for my– my favorite Bon– Bon Bon.

Thanks.

You–I guess you can’t eat those, can you? Gosh, I’m so sorry about that. Well, how long do you think you’ll be laid up here? I heard–heard it could be months.

[muffled] Yeah, it’s a long time.

Whatever you said, it sounds kind of bad. Uh, look, you know, Charlemagne is nothing without Kassandra. So not to make it all about me, but what do you think’s going to happen?

They recast me with Kayla.

What?

Kayla. Kayla.

Oh, Kayla. Oh, Kayla.

Mm-hmm.

Oh, I have not seen Stephanie worked up like that in a very long time.

Well, it’s not easy watching your best friend’s wedding blow up.

Well, and it’s hard on you to see Marcus’s daughter go through that.

Yeah. I just kept thinking how horrible it would have been for him to see her hauled down to the police station on those corruption allegations. It just doesn’t make any sense. The Jada I know would never be capable of doing any of those things she’s being accused of.

Agreed. So are you going to talk to Shawn and tell him about your hunch that EJ set Jada up?

No, I’m going to do some legwork first. I don’t want DiMera knowing that I’m on to him until I have something solid I could use against him.

Yeah, that’s a good idea. Ugh. Oh, what’s this?

Well, I hope Dr. “Sweetness” Johnson is up for playing these scenes as the mother-in-law from hell.

And the spoiler for Regan and Arrow.

Yeah. I’m hoping that Joy and Alex aren’t spoilers for themselves.

What do you mean?

You know what I mean. You know how messy it could get now that the two of them are sleeping together in real life?

And I thought I was feeling good before.

Before?

Didn’t you notice how mellow I was on set today?

Yeah. You were pretty chill now that I–

Yeah.

I think about it, yeah.

Well, that’s because it was actually a fun day at work for a change.

Oh.

No Chanel making me feel guilty or snarking at me about her husband.

No wonder.

But still, how I wish I never met Johnny DiMera that night at Small Bar.

Hey, there’s no way you could have known that you two would be working together.

I know, or that his wife and I would be working together, too. But still, there was something. Something told me that night it was a big mistake to hook up with him.

Yeah.

I should have listened to my gut.

Great work today, Seth. Seriously, I mean, nobody could bring Dr. Blake Lamoray to life the way you have. You’re, uh, you’re really growing into the character. Yeah. I agree. It’s not the same without Faith. I miss her too.

[soft orchestration]

announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Seth, I got to go. I’ll, uh–I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Chanel, hey.

Hey. Uh, this was at your front door.

Thanks. Uh, did you come by for any particular reason?

Yeah, I did. I wanted to talk to you about us.

Oh, it’s from Leo. Yikes. I think it’s my first script.

I still can’t believe I’m married to a TV star.

A very reluctant one, believe me. I just couldn’t say no to Abe. I knew he was desperate.

You’re a good friend.

[groans] Let’s see what I’m in for. [pensive music] Ugh.

What are you worried about? You know Alex and Joy are the definition of consenting adults, right?

Yes. We both know that. We both also know if things go wrong, we’re going to have a big problem because this is Alex we’re talking about. And just five minutes ago, he was–he was sleeping with Stephanie Johnson.

Did I just hear my name?

How about we run lines for tomorrow’s bedroom scene, hmm, in bed?

Hmm.

Hmm.

Hmm, as in not as fun as what we were doing before, but more fun than me doing it at home on my own.

Oh, way more fun. I promise. [sultry music]

All right, all right.

Another day, another show. Let’s see. Hmm. Oh, my God. Well, this came out of nowhere.

What happened?

Regan. She gets into a car accident and goes into premature labor.

OK.

But I just got pregnant. This is way too soon.

Hmm.

Wow. And they have Arrow trying to deliver the baby on the side of the road.

I get to deliver a baby? That’s awesome.

Oh, no.

What?

The baby’s not breathing.

What do you mean it’s not– they can’t kill a baby, right?

Um, no. No, the baby doesn’t die.

Oh, good.

I do. [intriguing music]

I got to admit, when I didn’t hear from you today, I was worried you were having second thoughts.

No, no second thoughts. I just–I knew you were working, and I just– I needed a little more time. I wanted to make sure that my head was on straight before we had this conversation.

I understand.

But I meant what I said last night, OK? If we’re going to make our marriage work, then we have to get to work right away.

You’re right.

Letting things fester is how we ended up in this situation in the first place, right? So if you ever doubt me again for any reason, then you talk to me, OK? No wasting time and letting things spiral into this self-fulfilling prophecy.

That is the last thing that I want.

And if you ever happen to see Alex having sex with someone that you cannot see, just please don’t automatically assume it’s me.

Look, I’m not going to make that mistake again, OK? Trust me when I say that. I–I know. I let my jealousy just get out of hand. I know that. I went down this crazy rabbit hole and hurt you.

I just–I don’t understand how you could ever think that I would cheat on you. I really thought that we were in a good place. I thought we were solid. And obviously, you didn’t.

I know. And that’s 100% on me, OK? I own that. And all I can say now is that I promise, OK? I promise that I will never doubt you again. I promise that I will be a better communicator. I love you, Chanel. I can’t live without you.

I love you too, Johnny. And I cannot imagine wanting to be with any man but you.

I can’t imagine wanting to be with anyone else either ever– not ever.

Uh–

Oh, is there a problem?

Yes, a big one. You know, I know it’s just acting, but I don’t know how I’m supposed to pretend to be in love with another man because you’re the only man that I want.

Aww.

Yeah. But luckily, in this show, I talk about Rhett. I don’t actually kiss him or anything.

Well, if he did kiss you, I might have to put a hit out on him.

Yeah, well, this show, I just have scenes with Charlemagne, AKA Hattie Adams.

Oh, lucky you.

Yeah. I suppose I should call her up and run lines with her or something, right? I mean, that’s what they call this. “Run the lines.” Run the lines?

Well, in this case, I think you should call it “run for the hills.”

[laughs] Yeah, that would be a great idea. I would love to do that. You know what? I do not have the energy for her tonight, so why don’t you just run the lines with me, huh?

Me? I’m no actor.

Well, neither am I. Listen. Charlemagne barely has any lines in this whole scene, so here. Let’s do it, please. [whimsical music]

Mmm, yummy. So Dr. Kayla is Kassandra, huh? I’m–I’m just not sure I see that. I mean, she’s nice enough, and she’s got a great hair. But she doesn’t have your spark, Bon Bon, you know?

Hmm.

Yeah. Yeah.

Thank you.

Oh, oh, thank you. Oh, yes. OK. Well, you’re welcome. It’s going to be pretty interesting tomorrow, you know. Oh, oh, Leo– Leo gave me a script, right here. Yeah. So I–I, um, been kind of glancing out a little bit. But it seems to me that there’s a whole lot of Kassandra and Charlemagne in this thing. Oh, my goodness, yeah. Do you want to run it with me?

That’s insane. They can’t kill Regan.

It says I bleed out on the side of the road.

Let me see it. Maybe you come back from the dead later or something, you know? All right, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. “Arrow picks up the newborn baby, “tries to flag down a car for help. We see headlights, hear screeching, and he goes down.”

What? You get hit by a car?

Whoa, whoa, is it– “The baby goes flying out of his arms. “It lands gently in an off-camera thicket of shrubbery.”

And what about Arrow?

It says he’s dead. [tense music]

Stephanie? I thought you were at Jada’s wedding.

Ah. Guess you haven’t talked to Paulina.

No. Why?

Well, the wedding was a total disaster. Actually, it didn’t even happen.

What?

What?

Rafe supposedly found evidence that Jada is a corrupt cop. He left her at the altar, and Shawn dragged her down to the police station for questioning.

Well, I don’t believe it. I can’t believe that Paulina would either.

Well, her hands were tied. I mean, the whole thing is outrageous. Jada is incapable of the things that they are accusing her of. My dad is going to clear her name.

So is that why you came down here so late, to tell us this?

Uh, no. Actually, I wanted to let you know that I put out a release to the soap press about my mom assuming the role of Kassandra. And I also put out a release about the new identity of Lady Whistleblower. Oh, and I took care of the Emmy submissions.

Well, that’s very efficient. But, you know, the Emmys aren’t for months.

Yes. But I won’t be around then.

Well, why not?

Because I quit.

You’re quitting your job?

I am. But I didn’t want to leave you guys in the lurch, so I’ve already taken the liberty of reaching out to my friend who’s also a publicist. Her name is Andrea. She is fantastic. She has tons of experience.

OK, could we just back this up a bit? What prompted this decision?

It has nothing to do with you or the job. I promise. I have loved every minute of working on this show.

Uh, then what is the reason?

Alex Kiriakis. [soft dramatic music]

So I guess we’re fired?

You’d think they would say something before you just read it in a script, right?

Yeah.

Yeah, yeah. It’s–wait a second. Wait a second. I knew it. Look at the air date.

April 1.

It’s an April Fool’s Day episode. So everything that just happened is like a dream or something.

Maybe. Maybe, but I– I don’t see anybody yelling “April Fool’s” at the end of this.

I’m going to call Abe to get it cleared up.

Oh, no, don’t. Don’t.

Yes.

No, we’ll figure it out tomorrow, OK? And honestly, I am OK with whatever happens.

Oh, you’re OK with whatever happens?

Like, I know I said today was a really good day on set, and it was. But to be honest, there’s been a lot more rough days than good ones. And who knows what else is to come? And, um, actually, the only real positive thing that’s come from this whole experience has been meeting you.

Joy. Come on. That is really sweet, but–

No, I mean it, Alex. And I was thinking, since next week is Valentine’s Day, I’d really love to spend it somewhere else with you. [soft music]

Hmm.

So with the help of time and talking things through– well, mostly with myself– I have a new perspective on us and what happened.

OK.

And the way I see it now– look. You almost went to bed with Joy. And I had a close call with Shawn. And we were both just angry and lashing out. But at the end of the day, neither one of us actually broke our wedding vows. And I think there’s a reason for that.

Look, speaking for myself, that night, when I took off my wedding ring with Joy, I honestly– I felt naked without it. And I never, ever want to take it off again. Chanel, there is one thing that I need from you if we’re going to fix our marriage. I need you to be here. Every night that you spend at your mom’s, you just feel further and further away. So would you please just come home?

OK. I will.

Really?

Really.

OK, uh, OK. Well, let– do you want to go– do you want to go to your mom’s? I’ll help you pack your things.

Oh, no, that won’t be necessary.

Oh, so you do need a little more time?

No, no. I already packed my bags in the car.

OK, baby, I can never say no to you when you bat those pretty blue eyes at me. But just don’t ask me to do Hattie’s lines in falsetto. OK?

OK. OK, OK, OK. Just give me the cues, OK? All right. All right, I’m going to start. I’m going to start.

Mm-hmm.

OK. “Oh, my God, Charlemagne, I can’t believe it. You’re alive!”

“You’re not getting rid of me that easily, Kassandra. The Phoenix always rises from the ashes.” – “You’re no Phoenix. “And I’m not about to give up Rhett now. “So I suppose I’ll just have to make you die for real this time.”

Oh, my God. It says Kassandra shoots me and I die. That Leo. I finally get back on the show, and he’s killing me off again. [tense music]

“You’re never going to get–get away with this. I thought we were friends.” [sighs] You’ll–you’ll never get rid of me. I will haunt you forever.

That is not even close to your line.

I was going where the scene takes me, baby. [groans]

[laughs]

How was that?

And they say vaudeville is dead. I don’t think so.

I’m going to talk to Abe. I think I’m a natural.

No, I think you need to put your acting aspirations aside. You were going to clear Jada, remember?

Right. So explain this to me. Charlemagne is really dead?

Well, I mean, I don’t know. It says she comes back– I mean, how would they kill her off? She just came back to life. There must be something more to this. [gasps] Oh.

Oh, what? What is it?

There is something more. Kassandra dies too.

How in tarnation could he kill me off again? Ink isn’t even dry on my contract yet. You didn’t have anything to do with this, did you, Bon Bon?

What? No, of course not.

Oh, good. I’m so glad. You know what? I’m just going to call him, give him a piece of my mind. [line trilling] [beep] Oh, went right to voicemail. Well, I’m not going to let him do this to me. I’m going to– I’m going to go over there and give him what for. I’ll be back, honey.

Mm-hmm. [intriguing music]

So you’re quitting for Alex Kiriakis?

Well, because of him, but not for him. I’m doing it for myself. Look, you guys were being fair when Alex and I were together before, and you said that I had to choose between him or the job. Fast forward to now, I’ve realized that keeping my job was a reflexive choice, one that I’ve come to regret.

Now that you’ve broken up with my son.

I had no business being with Philip when I wasn’t ready to move on. And honestly, I don’t think Alex was ready to move on so quickly either.

Have you talked to him about this?

Um, I have, yes. But we didn’t get to finish our conversation. And that’s OK. Because whether or not we’re on the same page, I know that I’ve made the right decision.

Well, I wish that I could agree with you about that choice.

I also know that Alex is with Joy now. So obviously, if we don’t wind up together, at least I know I tried.

You want to take a little Valentine’s Day trip, huh?

Well, my mom’s been bugging me to come visit. And, like, I don’t know. New York would be fun, right? We could go to a couple of Broadway shows. We could go to the Met. We could go to MoMA.

[sighs]

Well, don’t get too excited.

No, no, I– I, yeah, I’m just– you know, meeting the parents– it’s a big step.

Wow. So you were only with Joy because you thought I was with Philip. And I was only with Philip because I thought you were with Joy.

Bingo. But you’re not with Philip anymore.

No. But you’re still with Joy, right?

Kinda.

Define “kinda.”

I mean, it’s not like we’re official or anything, you know? We’re just spending a little bit more time together. But I mean, If I had known you were single, Steph, I swear to God to you, I would slow that down completely so that you and I could–

So that you and I could what?

Forget it, really, because I don’t even know if you and I can really be together as long as the two of us are working on “Body & Soul.”

What if I wasn’t?

I just–I don’t know. I just maybe feel like it’s maybe too fast.

Yeah, no, I mean, it was just an idea.

Yeah.

Um, we definitely don’t have to go to New York. We could, um, we could go somewhere else. We could just stay here. I mean, you do– you want to celebrate Valentine’s Day with me, right?

Yeah. [phone buzzes] Yeah, yeah, yeah, of course. Of course. Come on. Oh, man. Anyway, I should probably get going, call it a night.

What about tomorrow’s script?

Oh, it’s, like, all action, pretty much. There’s no lines, so, you know. Got an early call time. I’m so tired.

You know you can always just stay here, too.

Thank you. But I think you and I both know if that happens, we’re not going to get much sleep. So I will see you tomorrow. OK?

Great. Yeah, yeah, tomorrow.

OK.

OK. I’m–I’m going to go get your stuff out of the car, help you unpack. And I–I–you know, I can’t believe that we’re sleeping under the same roof tonight. And also, um–

Also?

Also, um, look, I– I just–I want you to know that, um, we don’t have to sleep in our bed tonight. You know, whatever you’re comfortable with is what I want.

Hmm. Well, let’s just take it one day at a time.

OK. I have missed you so much. [soft music]

Did I even say “welcome back?” Welcome back.

[laughs] Yeah, I think I got the message.

[sighs] You know, this is the last thing that I want to do right now, but do you mind if I open this up? It’s going to be a new script from Leo, probably with some new pages for tomorrow.

Go for it. Let’s see what the troublemaker’s cooked up now.

Yeah. Oh, OK. Oh, my God.

What?

Leo killed off Dr. Lamoray.

What?

Yeah. I mean, Seth loves being on this show. I was just literally, when you walked in, telling him what a good job that he’s doing. He’s going to be devastated.

Hey.

Hey. That was fast.

Well, I got your message. It sounded important. What’s going on?

Sorry for the cryptic text. I just wanted to talk to you about this in person.

It’s OK.

I quit “Body & Soul.”

You did? I mean, I know you said you would, but–

I–I had to go for it, even if we didn’t finish our conversation from the other day.

I’m just, um– wow.

Look, you know I have feelings for you. And I’m not trying to pressure you in any way. I just knew that if we were ever going to have a shot, it wasn’t going to happen if I was still publicist at “Body & Soul.” I had to follow my heart.

Steph, I don’t even know what to say.

You don’t have to say anything right now. I know that you’re with Joy, and that’s a complication, obviously.

Yeah, yeah, more than I wish it were.

What do you mean?

Well, I just thought we were still on this “getting to know each other” phase, you know, casual.

And you’re not anymore?

She’s not anymore. Suddenly she’s talking about taking this Valentine’s Day trip.

Oh. Well, Alex, I mean, if you want to do that, you should–

I don’t want to do that at all. And that’s how I know what I have to do. I have to let her down gently… Because I just want to be with you, Steph.

I can’t believe it that Stephanie just up and quit on us without any notice.

Well, I am sorry to see her go.

Damn it, Abe. Ever since Hattie put that stupid curse on us, I mean, it seems like everything has gone wrong– everything from the poisoned cupcakes, actors quitting left and right, the PR person quitting. Plus, Justin still insists that Bonnie was led to that elevator shaft on purpose.

Yeah. You know, it’s been a long day. Look, why don’t you– why don’t you go home and get some rest, huh?

You do the same thing.

Yeah. I’m going to finish up this schedule, and I’ll be right behind you.

OK.

You know, maybe this whole thing is my fault.

How so?

Because I told Abe that I didn’t really want to do the part. And I didn’t have much time to give him, so maybe he decided that it was too much trouble to recast it. And he decided just to pull the plug on the whole thing.

I guess it’s possible.

Yeah, but to kill the character off? I mean, Bonnie is going to get better someday, and now she’s not going to have a job? I just wish he would have talked to me about it first.

Well, why don’t you call him and find out?

Yeah. Yeah, that’s what I’m going to do. Speed dial somewhere? There he is. [line trilling]

Oh. Kayla, hi.

Ah, Abe, hi. How are you? I’m sorry to call you so late. But I was just going over the script for tomorrow, and I’m just a bit confused.

Well, I’ll help if I can.

Um, yeah, I didn’t know, but, um–but it says in there that Kassandra is being killed off.

What?

Well, the script says that I shoot Charlemagne, and then when I drop the gun, her cat slinks over and steps on the trigger and then shoots me in the heart. I mean, I don’t know. Is this just, uh, Charlemagne’s revenge or something?

Kayla, I– I have no idea what you’re talking about.

But it was in the script that was waiting for me when I came home.

Oh. So this must be Leo going off again on his own without running it by us.

So what should I do?

Well, you hang in there, and I’ll get to the bottom of it.

Hey, hey. I need a word with you.

Ugh, looks like I don’t have much of a choice. What’s up?

“What’s up?” Don’t play dumb with me, mister. I just got my latest script, and it says that Kassandra kills me dead.

What? No, she doesn’t.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, she does. Look, it’s all right here in black and white.

I did not write that. Ugh. Look at this terrible spelling, this awful punctuation. Where did this come from?

Well, it got delivered to me in an envelope with my name on it, like always.

Well, it didn’t come from me.

Well, if you didn’t write it, then who did? [tense music]

So what is this? Some kind of a joke?

Oh, my God. What if it’s the stalker?

What stalker?

The evil SOB who sent those poison cupcakes and the text to Bonnie sending her to the elevator, the person who has been targeting the cast and crew of the show since you put a curse on it.

Oh, yeah. Well, I guess that’s possible. But attempted murder, I mean, that’s no small potatoes. And I know they were killing me off on the show, but at least I wasn’t going to die in real life, you know? Although, I’m feeling a little unsteady.

You are suddenly looking a little green around the gills.

Yeah. [soft dramatic music]

I should get something to drink.

[shallow breathing]

So you want to be with me? Do you really mean that?

Of course I do.

[gasps] Alex! What’s wrong? Alex. Alex! Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.

So what did Abe say?

He said no one’s getting killed. And he thinks that Leo just went rogue.

Well, it sounds like Leo.

Yeah. And, um, Abe said he was going to get to the bottom of it…

Sweetness, you OK?

I just feel kind of– I don’t know. I feel–

Oh. Baby, hey. Oh.

I–I don’t understand why they would do this. They have to know that killing off Seth is a huge mistake. He’s the one who gave us permission to shoot at the hospital. If he revokes that, we’re screwed.

You’re right.

[sighs] I’m going to call Leo right now.

[grunts] [groans]

Johnny!

Oh, my God. I think I know who’s doing this.

[ominous music]

Transcript provided by Suzanne and Thane

[edgy music plays] Luna’s not my cousin. She’s my daughter. Luna’s my daughter. If only you knew where I was, Mom. You need to give it to me straight, Poppy, the truth. Am I Luna’s father? You are not Luna’s father. I was surprised to get your text. Thank you for coming. I know how busy you are. Oh, I’ll always make time for my sister. That’s my promise to you from now on. Though, honestly, didn’t expect to hear from you. Not after what I put you through the other day, accusing you of being part of such a terrible, dark family secret. Jack and I never had an affair, Li. Luna isn’t his child. I understand that now… how horribly wrong I was. All those years I wasted in bitterness and anger. I just hope you can forgive me one day for thinking what I did of you. What is it, Penelope? Why did you want to see me? [edgy music plays] What’s really going on with me? I think you’re up to something. Seriously, Hope, this-this power has made you paranoid. I have had years of experience with you, and I know exactly what you are capable of. Too many times, I have been burned by you. Never again, Steffy. [whimsical music plays] It’s, uh, it’s crazy. Ha. I mean, it’s just hard to concentrate. Mm. That scent you’re wearing… Almost like… you could lose yourself? [both chuckle] So, um…about the Forrester fragrance, about launching it, I’m thinking that we can– Let’s discuss the details later. Right. Yeah, yeah. Right. We can set an appointment. Ha ha. I’m sure you’re involved with a number of projects. Mm. Nothing quite like this one. Well, um, we’re very excited and thrilled to be collaborating with the nose of Paris– hell, the world–but, you know, I-I have a question for you. What brought you to Forrester’s door?

Steffy:  It’s no secret that you and I have a contentious history, Hope. HOPE: That’s putting it mildly. But thankfully, there have been changes here at Forrester Creations, and I’m no longer your scapegoat. Yeah, thanks to Carter. Your partner in crime. What’s going on, Penelope? You’re not yourself. Tell me. Maybe I can help. You need to give it to me straight, Poppy, the truth. Am I Luna’s father? Something’s happened. What? Luna… …is missing. No. No, no, no. This can’t be right. This can’t be ri– this can’t be right. I’ve got– I gotta take another test. I’ll take another test. [heavy music plays] Forrester Creations couldn’t be in better hands. Yep. With Carter and the Logans at the helm. I know what you think of my family. Oh, please. You couldn’t care less what I think. You’re a…talented, dynamic businesswoman. Who only got to where I am– or should I say was– because of my last name, right? That’s what you think. As I said, Forrester Creations is being run differently now. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect, including you, so I will say this. You have made many positive contributions to the company over the years. Only to be sidelined by one of the most underhanded business coups imaginable. [door opens] I’m interrupting. No. Zende, your timing couldn’t be more perfect. I was actually showing Steffy your latest designs for Hope for the Future and I think you really nailed it.

Thank you.

Yeah. Yeah, I agree. I think Hope for the Future is going to continue to thrive, what with your talent and Carter’s leadership. One thing you should know, tres cher. Daphne Rose never explains herself. Meaning I may never know why you suddenly appeared that day. Okay, well, obviously, you had your reasons. Reason. Singular. But I shall never tell. Perhaps you can tell me this. Which Forrester fragrance should we launch with, one or two? [whimsical music plays] [chuckles] Choose. [huffs] Luna’s missing? Yes. And I don’t know where she is. Tom Starr. I’ll never believe you’re my father. [edgy music plays] [timer beeps] [beeping] [heavy instrumentals] Well, I have to get going, but Zende, I just– I wanted to thank you again for all of your hard work and your commitment to Forrester. You are really going above and beyond. So it’s-it’s really appreciated. Thank you. Absolutely. You’re invaluable to all of us. Leave you to it. Oh, you came in at the right time.

Whew.

I’m not sure how much longer

I could have restrained myself.

Hope getting to you? She’s so sure this is how Forrester’s gonna be

from here on out.

Little does she know that she and Carter are in for a rude awakening. You mean my plan, Operation Carter Walton? You still have not let me in on any of the specifics, but if I can help in any way, please let me know. I have utmost confidence in you. So does Uncle Ridge and Granddad. Carter won’t be in charge much longer. Not if you have anything to do with it. You want me to choose? It’s your company. It’s your fragrance. You created them. I belong to you now. Our partnership. So, Monsieur Walton, your preference. Un ou deux? I don’t understand–how is Luna missing? She’s in prison.

I know.

Well, someone call you? No. I went to see her and they told me she wasn’t there. Did they transfer her to a different facility? All they told me was that she was still incarcerated. They didn’t tell you where? No. They were being very vague. This is outrageous. [huffs] Your daughter’s missing and no one will tell you where she is? Do you want me to go down there? Maybe I can find out something for you. If they wouldn’t tell me anything, I doubt they’d say anything to you. But thank you. Of course. She’s my niece. [phone rings] Oh. I-I’m sorry. I have to take this. [phone ringing] Hello? I need to see you. I’m at my office.

Can you come right away?

I’m in the middle of something. It’s important. Can you tell me what it’s about?

Are you coming or not, Poppy?

All right, I-I’m leaving now. I’m sorry, Li, but something’s come up

and I have to take care of it.

Something about Luna? Never mind. I won’t pry. But please let me know if you hear anything about Luna.

I will.

And one more thing. I just want to apologize again for the accusations I held on for all those years, thinking you could betray me in my own home. Hopefully, you can forgive me one day. How I could even imagine you could hurt me and my family in such a terrible way… [tense music plays] Honestly, I wish it hadn’t come to this, but drastic times call for drastic measures. And these are drastic times for Forrester Creations. This is truly a fight for the heart and soul of Forrester Creations– its future, its identity. I mean, in a few months from now, Forrester Creations– it might not even be recognizable. Hope and Carter, they wanna take risky moves, and they’re not being strategic. No, but you are, hopefully coming up with a way to stop them. Well, I had to do something. I can’t just sit idly by and wait for Justin and his team to work their angle– like, that could take months, and we don’t even know if that’s gonna be successful.

Meanwhile…

Hope, Brooke, and Carter are becoming more entrenched in their positions. Every day that goes by, they’re consolidating their power. And Hope is getting more arrogant by the minute. Not only does she wanna lead Hope for the Future, but she wants to be in on all of the business decisions. And Carter is more than willing to let her, at least that’s how I read it. Hey, Zende, I know none of this is easy for you, working with Hope and Carter, especially on Hope’s line. But just know that your intel is invaluable. I do…wish that… you would let me in a little bit on the details of your plan. I’ll tell you this. If this plan continues to go in this direction, Hope and Carter will never smell what’s coming until it’s too late.

HOPE: Carter.

[sharp inhale] Daphne. What’s going on? I was, um…I was admiring the-the Forrester fragrances trying to, uh, figure out which one to launch with. It can’t be Tom Starr. Oh, God, this has haunted me my whole life. Who is my father? Lock the door. Wait. I need to say something first. [Finn scoffs] I realize that there are a lot of questions that are swirling around that brilliant mind of yours ever since your mother ran the paternity tests, and we are now certain that Tom Starr is not Luna’s father. And-and it’s made you think about that night that we shared all those years ago. And I’ve been thinking a lot about it too, and you know what, you’re right. There’s nothing for us to be ashamed about. You were of age and we were two consenting adults, and, yeah, you were adopted into the family, but we are actually not related by blood. There’s no biological connection between us. And we cared about each other. And what we shared was-was beautiful and it was special. And that is how I have always remembered it. And, Finn, I would really hope that you would remember it that way too– this magical connection that we had. But that was all that it could be. And we have both moved on with our lives, and-and look–look at what you’ve accomplished. You are a… brilliant and highly respected doctor with a beautiful wife and family, and I… Well, I have a chance to patch things up with my sister and pursue the kind of relationship that two sisters should have. [sniffling] But Finn, that can’t happen if you keep on thinking about that night and asking questions. You know, the kind of questions that can raise a lot of red flags for other people. So you understand what I’m saying, right? No one can find out about this. No one. They can’t. What is that? I think you know what that is. A paternity test? Finn, I already told you there is no way that Luna is your daughter so I am begging you, for both our sakes, to please drop it. Don’t you wanna know what it says? Yeah, we were close. You were my first. But you promised… that you would be honest and truthful. I trusted you, Poppy. I trusted that you would never hurt me and you wouldn’t make me regret that night we shared. And I never did. Until… You lied to me. Luna isn’t my cousin. She’s my daughter. Luna is my daughter. I’m… the father. [heavy music plays]

Recap written by Suzanne

Maxie finds Emma at the Surf Lodge Café to warn her that Anna is a smart spy, so she can’t get away with much. Sasha arrives, so Maxie tells Emma to go find another table. Emma sits with Gio at a nearby table, still focused on Maxie and Sasha. Sasha tells Maxie that her pregnancy is going fine. Maxie lets her know that there are rumors that Jason is the father. Sasha replies that it’s no one’s business who the father is. Emma eavesdrops on them and then tells Gio what she heard. He doesn’t believe it. She wants to tell Robin and Robert. He thinks it’s a bad idea, but she ignores him.

At the hospital, Trina gets Curtis to talk to Kai, who is struggling since being injured. He’s paralyzed and was told that if he plays football again, he could die. Meanwhile, Kai’s friend and teammate Quinn tries to get Kai to talk about football. Kai tells Quinn that he needs to step up and be team leader now. Curtis introduces himself to Kai, letting him know that he was in a wheelchair for a while after being shot. He suggests that Kai has to let himself feel his grief, anger etc. in order to get to rehab. Kai worries about his future. Curtis praises his work in football, which tells him that Kai is brave. Kai doesn’t want to be a charity case but tells Curtis that he hasn’t let his family know his prognosis yet. He feels that he failed his team, but Curtis disagrees. Curtis asks him not to give up on himself. He gives Kai his business card and tells him to call any time, and then he leaves. Kai texts Trina, asking her to come by.

Outside, Quinn blames Trina for Kai’s injuries – for getting him involved in art so that his focus was split. They argue about Kai before Quinn storms off in a huff.

Laura and Jordan sit at the Metro Court bar. Laura tells her that she met with Jenz Sidwell, who could be a major problem in the town. They can’t believe there are no warrants out for his arrest, after what he did to Lucky. Laura also tells her that Anna thinks he may have set fire in Sonny’s apartment. They wonder what he has against Sonny. Laura leaves, and Isaiah shows up. Jordan tells him that Sidwell is in town. He doesn’t think Sidwell would come after him again. She jokes that she would like to use the towel her gave her for Christmas, next time she works out and uses the steam room. She begins to tell him about her stressful day, but he’s called away on the phone. Meanwhile, Sidwell arrives at the bar, so she greets him warmly, asks why he’s in town, and what his business is. He replies genially that he’s an importer of rare gems and other things of value. They flirt. Isaiah sees them together and isn’t too happy about it.

Elizabeth is on the phone with someone at “Turning Woods” to ask about an older lady named Mrs. Chad that died suddenly of a heart attack, even though she was in good health. They know that Cyrus visited her before that. Laura drops by to bring news about Sidwell being in town, and how he bought Wyndemere. Liz can’t believe he’s just walking around free, but there were no laws in the place where he kept Lucky prisoner. Laura tells him that Anna is keeping an eye on Sidwell. Lucky assures her that he’ll be fine and will stay away from Sidwell. Elizabeth watches his face; she can tell that he’s not fine. She tries to get Lucky to open up about Sidwell keeping him prisoner. He admits that it was hell. He convinced Jason not to kill Sidwell, but he hopes that he doesn’t regret it (if Sidwell hurts others).

Sonny and Alexis are in her office. He asks how she is. She’s upset that Sam was murdered. Sonny offers an ear, so she rages about her feelings. They hug, and she literally cries on her should. He assures her that she never failed Sam, and she thanks him. Laura comes by to ask Kristina if she knows anything about Sidwell buying Wyndemere. Alexis tells her that Ava sold Wyndemere to another company. Laura tells them that Sidwell bought Wyndemere. Sonny and Laura tell Alexis that Sidwell kidnapped Lucky and was probably behind the targeting of Jason and Anna. Sonny has to leave, so Laura offers her sympathy about Sam. Alexis thanks her and tells her that she plans to focus on Sam’s gift of love to Lulu

Dante and Brook Lynn are talking in the stables when Lulu arrives, looking for Cody. Brook Lynn leaves. Dante tells Lulu that he met with Anna, who wants him to take a week off. She doesn’t want him near the investigation into Sam’s death. Lulu knows that it’s frustrating. They talk about Dante’s grief. She says that she owes him apology for what she said and did in Prague, but he brushes that off. She is grateful for Sam’s sacrifice. Dante opens up to her about how he feels, and plans he had with Sam. Lulu feels sympathetic. She tells him that she’s so happy that he had a love like that. In turn, he tells her that he doesn’t blame her for Sam’s death. Leaving, she tells him that he knows where to find her if he needs her.

Brook Lynn and Lois have coffee. Brook Lynn tells Lois that she was with Dante, who fathered the child she gave away years ago. She thought about telling Chase but decided against pursuing any more information. Lois is supportive but looks guilty. Brook Lynn opines that she doesn’t know her child’s gender or name; just the birthdate. The expression on Lois’ face tells that she knows something.

Update written by Joseph

Kayla joins Steve at the church for Jada and Rafe’s wedding. Kayla says she wanted to go to Jada’s bachelorette party but she was stuck at work all night. Steve jokes that she just has to not upstage the bride.

Jada gets a call from “Rafe”. Arnold says he just wanted one last call with his gorgeous fiancée before she becomes his wife.

Javi runs in to Leo in the town square. Leo says he was just telling Marlena how happy they are. Javi says no and that he’s mad at Leo because he ruined Jada and Rafe’s wedding. Leo asks what he’s talking about and asks how he could ruin a wedding that hasn’t even happened yet. Javi reveals it might not ever happen because last night, “Rafe” cheated on Jada.

Jada tells “Rafe” that she’s glad he called because when she didn’t hear from him, she worried about him getting cold feet. He assures that nothing can stop him from making her his bride today.

Rafe knocks out EJ and declares there’s not going to be a wedding as he then escapes the secret room in the underground tunnels.

Kayla asks Steve how the bachelor party was. Steve thinks some of them might need hangover remedies but it wasn’t exactly good as he found out that “Rafe” took a case, working for EJ and didn’t tell him about it. Kayla thought they hated each other. Steve says that didn’t stop “Rafe” from taking the job. Kayla asks about the job. Steve says that “Rafe” claims that EJ hired him to track down Sloan Peterson and a couple weeks ago, “Rafe” told Jada that he sent him out of town on a case which he did not do. Kayla asks what he thinks is going on. Steve says he doesn’t know but didn’t feel last night was the time to get in to it. Steve adds that after the wedding, he and Rafe are going to have a talk about their working relationship.

Leo tells Javi that’s crazy since Rafe is head over heels in love with Jada, so he can’t believe he would cheat on her. Javi reveals that it was with the exotic dancer that Leo hired for the bachelor party. Leo argues that Sally would never do that but Javi says Sally must have called in sick because they sent Savannah which shocks Leo. Javi remarks that this isn’t the Rafe he knows.

Arnold tells Jada that they could do a photobooth setup at the wedding. Jada notes that Javi did pretty much all the planning so she’s beyond grateful to him since work’s been crazy. Jada feels they are in for a few surprises and tells “Rafe” that she has a surprise for him. Jada says she loves him and will see him soon as she hangs up. Jada then tells Stephanie that he sounded upbeat like he can’t wait to marry her. Stephanie says she told her there’s nothing to worry about.

DiMera Enterprise worker Rita Leslie goes to the DiMera Mansion and calls out for anyone but receives no response, complaining about no one being there to greet a guest. She looks at the portrait of Stefano and remarks that this wouldn’t happen when he was around but times have changed. Rafe then emerges from the tunnels, shocking Rita.

Kayla talks about what a great guy Rafe is and insists there must be a logical reason for him to go behind Steve’s back. Steve says he sure hopes so. Steve asks Kayla not to say anything to Jada about this since it’s her day and he wants it to go off without a hitch. Kayla agrees not to say a word. Steve wishes Jada’s father Marcus could be there. Kayla knows Marcus would be grateful that Steve is stepping in to give Jada away. Kayla tells Steve that she loves him and they kiss until Paulina arrives and jokes for them to get a room.

Leo tells Javi that he’s so sorry, asking who would have thought since Rafe is so straight in every sense. Leo asks if Javi could have jumped to the wrong conclusion. Javi assures that he walked in on them in his hotel room and she was wearing a towel, then “Rafe” admitted to sleeping with her and pleaded with him not to tell Jada. Javi questions how to keep this a secret from her.

Jada tearfully talks to her mom on the phone about how she wishes she could have her there, but she will send lots of pictures. Jada tells her to focus on getting better and says she loves her so much as she hangs up. Jada tells Stephanie that she can’t cry anymore. Stephanie asks how her mom is. Jada says she’s okay but has a really bad flu, so she’s glad she didn’t try to fly out even though she wishes she could be there. Jada talks about not getting as emotional at her first wedding.

Rita introduces herself to Rafe. Rafe asks if she has a phone as he needs to call the police. Rita asks why and questions what he was doing coming out of the walls. Rafe explains that EJ was holding him hostage and Arnold has been posing as him. Rafe says Jada is about to get married, so he needs to stop this. Rita looks through her purse for her phone.

Arnold gets dressed in his hotel room and calls EJ.

EJ remains knocked out in the room in the tunnels with his phone ringing nearby.

Arnold leaves EJ a message that he needs to hear from him for his final marching orders and tells him to call him back. Gabi then shows up at his door.

Rafe asks Rita to hurry before he passes out. Rita then pulls out a taser and tases Rafe.

Steve and Kayla greet Paulina, who explains that Abe got stuck at the Body and Soul office since they fell behind after Bonnie’s fall down the elevator shaft. Kayla is glad she didn’t have to tape today. Paulina congratulates Kayla on stepping in for Bonnie. Kayla says Abe is hard to say no to. Steve invites Paulina to sit with them if she’s flying solo tonight. Paulina then reveals that she’s officiating the wedding. Paulina jokes about all the directions she got from Javi as the wedding planner. Paulina declares that Rafe and Jada are going to get hitched without a single hitch.

Leo suggests Javi could never tell Jada, admitting it could cause anxiety and nightmares but it beats having to see the expression on her face. Leo then decides he might not want to live that way and asks if he’s going to tell Jada about what he saw. Javi asks how he can and says that “Rafe” gave him a whole bro code speech and laid a huge guilt trip on him, so he agreed to keep quiet. Javi argues that Jada deserves to know and she’s wearing his mother’s engagement ring. Javi remarks that his mother would be turning over in her grave if she knew what “Rafe” had done, but on the other hand, family was everything to her and Rafe is his flesh and blood. Javi states that he planned the whole wedding and asks how he could now destroy the whole thing.

Jada comes out of her room in her wedding dress. Stephanie tells her that she is stunning and says Rafe won’t know what hit him..

EJ emerges from the tunnels and is shocked to find Rita in the living room with Rafe unconscious on the couch. EJ questions what is going on here. Rita explains that she just came from the police station and brought the information he requested on Jada. EJ says that’s great but asks what the hell happened. Rita explains that she was looking for EJ but Rafe came staggering out of the tunnels, saying that EJ kidnapped him and was holding him hostage, then he asked for her phone to call the police so she tasered him. EJ questions Rita taking it upon herself. Rita says she did out of being loyal to EJ and his family, especially now that he’s no longer in his position to make his charges vanish. EJ thanks Rita and says he’s in her debt. Rita says to secure her silence, she hopes this will be reflected in her yearly bonus. EJ agrees and then Rita asks him to tell her exactly what he’s up to.

Gabi questions “Rafe” as to why he answered the door, expecting EJ. He explains that EJ hired him to do some work for him then he stuck him with the bill, so he thought he was coming. Gabi calls EJ a cheap bastard and says Rafe could’ve just asked her if he needed money while getting involved with EJ is never good. “Rafe” insists that he hates EJ as much as Gabi does. Gabi asks “Rafe” to promise not to let him get dragged down by EJ.

EJ asks Rita for help getting rid of Rafe but Rita says she did the tasering, so EJ does the lifting.

Paulina admits to Kayla and Steve that she’s surprised to be officiating the wedding since she and Rafe haven’t been BFFs since she relieved him of his duties. Kayla suggests maybe he’s trying to mend fences. Paulina comments on it being cold outside. Steve thinks all Jada and Rafe care about is becoming husband and wife by the end of the ceremony.

Jada tells Stephanie if they are ready, they can get going. Stephanie stops to give Jada a gift from her sister Talia, which is the necklace their dad got her when she was little. Jada says Talia never took it off, so she can’t believe she sent it to her. Stephanie puts the necklace on Jada and says she’s just so sorry her family couldn’t be there today. Jada responds that her family is in her heart and she has an adopted family in the Johnsons. Jada adds she’s gaining a whole new family as well. Stephanie presents a sixpence for her shoe for luck, but feels she won’t need luck as she and Rafe are going to live happily ever after.

“Rafe” assures Gabi that he knows how to handle EJ. Gabi says she thought she did too. Gabi presents him a birthday gift sent from Eli and Lani which is a bottle of champagne for his wedding night. Gabi asks if “Rafe” is ready to go and says they can drive together. He questions her not having a hot date. Gabi explain that JJ got called in to a court case. He jokes that maybe Jada will throw her the bouquet. Gabi tells him that she’s so happy he and Jada found each other, saying he deserves all the happiness in the world and she loves him so much as they hug. They then exit together.

Javi asks Leo what he thinks he should do. Leo jokes that people rarely ask for his advice. Leo says before Javi came to Salem, he knew a secret that caused him so much guilt and angst that he would never do it over again. Leo believes Javi should tell Jada, but points out that he doesn’t know what it’s like to come from a loving family. Leo notes that if he did have that, he might feel obligated to the other family member. Leo points out that Javi lives with Rafe. Javi complains that this isn’t helping him at all.

EJ and Rita drag Rafe back down the tunnels to the secret room and tie him back up. EJ says he knew he could count on her. Rita responds that she’s loyal to all DiMeras. Rita notes that it would’ve helped if he told her the entire story from the beginning. EJ says it was on a need to know basis, so he was protecting her. Rita assumes that if Jada is on her way to the altar, that Arnold has something to do with his plan which EJ confirms. EJ explains that Arnold recently resurfaced despite being paid off. Rita recalls the last time Arnold stood in for Rafe, it went south very quickly. EJ assures that he has no intention of that, but Rafe stumbled upon Arnold so he had no choice but to put Rafe on ice for the past few weeks. EJ mentions being ousted from his position by Jada. Rita guesses he’s going to use this information to return the favor.

Javi and Leo arrive at the wedding. Paulina questions who invited Leo. Leo introduces Javi as his boyfriend. Paulina mentions meeting Javi, who says he loves her dress. Steve adds that he met Javi at the bachelor party while Kayla introduces herself. Leo asks if Javi has decided what to do. Javi says he hasn’t yet.

Rita tells EJ it’s a novel way to use this information but it remains to be seen if it will accomplish his goals. EJ says the clock is ticking and he’s already wasted time with this distraction. EJ is sure Rafe will have questions when he wakes up, so he asks Rita to keep an eye on Rafe. Rita says EJ owes her more than one as EJ exits.

Leo warns Javi that his window of opportunity to do something is dwindling. Javi says he just needs more time to think. Gabi comes over and praises Javi’s wedding planning. “Rafe” comes over and tells Javi that this day would not have been possible without him. Stephanie arrives and greets Kayla and Steve. Stephanie tells Steve that it means the world to Jada that he is stepping in for her father and walking her down the aisle. Kayla goes to take her seat while Steve joins Jada. Steve talks with Jada about he and Marcus growing up and how his family was everything Marcus dreamed of, adding that he was so proud of Jada. Steve wishes Jada all the happiness that Marcus had in his marriage and that he has in his. Steve states that when you find the right person and make a family with them, there’s nothing better in the whole world. The music then begins so Steve walks Jada down the aisle to “Rafe” and Paulina. Steve tells “Rafe” to take good care of her as he takes his seat. Paulina then begins the ceremony.

Rafe wakes up in the secret room, tied up again with Rita at his side. Rafe says he thought Rita was going to help him. Rita says she didn’t and tells Rafe not to waste his energy because he won’t slip out this time. Rafe repeats that he should’ve known she was just a DiMera stooge.

EJ declares that everything is in his place, so the rest is up to Arnold if he doesn’t screw this up.

“Rafe” responds that he’s sorry but he can’t marry her, leaving Jada shocked.
