Kyle: Hey, just spoke with tara. She’s on her way here.

Jack: She know why you want to see her?

Kyle: No, I only told her i wanted to talk.

Jack: I still don’t know what to make of this security footage that phyllis sent us. It’s pretty clear sally and tara are both upset.

Kyle: Well, I wonder if tara found out something about sally.

Jack: Like what?

Kyle: Maybe tara found out that sally was involved with summer going off to italy.

Jack: I really don’t think that’s true.

Kyle: I’m just wondering. It would explain why tara was so upset in the elevator. Phyllis has been blaming her for summer leaving.

Jack: No, phyllis’ theory is that sally and tara have been working together, and believe me, she sees this video as proof positive.

Kyle: Okay, phyllis only sees what she wants to see, but there’s no sense in speculating further. Tara’s on her way here, and we’ll get to the bottom of this. There’s probably just a simple explanation.

Sally: So, is that why you keep harassing me? ‘Cause you think I did something nasty to your daughter.

Phyllis: Oh, not you alone. You and tara.

Sally: Summer’s in italy having the time of her life, taking the fashion world by storm. So what exactly did I do to her? Because if I was responsible for this — and I’m not — you should be thanking me instead of taking my phone and sending fake text messages pretending to be me.

Phyllis: I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Sally: So you’re just continuing to deny it.

Phyllis: Well, why would I do something like that? Let’s think about it. Unless I wanted the person who was receiving the text to freak out and rush over here and confront you because she thought she was in trouble.

Sally: Okay, well, if that was your plan, it obviously failed because nobody freaked out.

Phyllis: Hmm. Not in the lobby.

[ Clicks tongue ] In the elevator.

Sally: What are you talking about?

Phyllis: The argument you and tara were having in the elevator.

Sally: There are security cameras in the elevator. Did you spy on us?

Phyllis: I am the proprietor of this establishment. I need to know what’s going on at all times.

Sally: I cannot believe that you would go to such extremes.

Phyllis: The cameras aren’t hidden.

Sally: You were snooping on a private conversation.

Phyllis: It’s an elevator, not a confessional.

Tara: I can’t wait anymore, sally. I’m needed at home.

Sally: Well, I was right. Tara, the text did come from phyllis, and she spied on us in the elevator.

Tara: I am dealing with a lot right now. The last thing I need is to get caught up in your drama. So just leave me out of it, please.

Phyllis: Wow, how does that feel, getting thrown under the bus?

Amanda: Hey.

Devon: Hey, you.

Amanda: Moses let me in when he was on his way to see nate. I hope you don’t mind.

Devon: No, of course I don’t mind. I don’t know, we should get you your own key made.

Amanda: Uh, are you sure that you’re ready to level up like that?

Devon: I mean, I’m just throwing the idea out there. I don’t know.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ] So how was abby? Did she hear from mariah?

Devon: Yes, she did, just a text message saying that she’s gonna be back in time for her next doctor’s appointment.

Amanda: That’s all she said?

Devon: It’s all a little bit odd, but I’ll fill you in over dinner. I know that you’re seeing phyllis later, so we can eat earlier. Um, I’m gonna go upstairs and change. But while you wait, I think you should open up a bottle of something really nice because we’re celebrating.

Amanda: We are?

Devon: We are. Sutton ames is gonna finally pay for his decades-old crime because of you.

Amanda: Okay, not so fast. It’s not a slam dunk yet.

Devon: Yeah, well, it’s gonna be.

Amanda: I appreciate your confidence in me, but I’m not counting on anything. Besides, you know, we’re not supposed to be talking about the case, right? I just want to focus on the two of us.

Devon: I’m more than fine with that. I’ll be back.

Victoria: Hey. All of my loose ends are tied up at the office. I just have to pack, and then we can head to the airport. Next stop, new york, if you’re up for it still.

Ashland: I am. My suitcase is packed and the jet is all ready.

Victoria: Are you feeling okay?

Ashland: I am fine. I’m actually feeling better because while you were away, i made an appointment to see that specialist in new york to discuss my treatment options.

Victoria: I am so glad that you haven’t changed your mind about fighting this illness. I know — I know that it wasn’t an easy decision to make.

Ashland: No, it wasn’T. But I’ll be grateful for any extra moments I can get because I’ll be spending them with harrison and with you.

Victoria: I love the sound of that.

Ashland: Keep your expectations in check. Odds the treatment will extend my life past a little time are remote.

Victoria: Well, don’t tell me the odds. It just makes me more stubborn.

Ashland: You know, that stubbornness is something I find very attractive.

Victoria: Look, I know — i know there are no guarantees, but I’m ready for whatever happens next. And I’ll be with you every step of the way.

Devon: [ Sighs ] Hey.

Amanda: Hey.

[ Chuckles ] When you said that you were gonna change, I didn’t know that you were gonna change. You look good.

Devon: If it’s a problem, i can go back upstairs and I can change into something less distracting.

Amanda: That’s a good idea. Yeah, we should go upstairs.

Devon: Oh, you want to come with me?

Amanda: Well, I have to help you get out of that shirt.

Devon: We’re not gonna make dinner, are we?

Amanda: No, we are not.

Victoria: Okay, yes, I will definitely bring you something back from new york. I promise.

[ Chuckles ] Okay. Have fun with your dad and be good. I love you, too. Bye.

Ashland: Johnny and katie are gonna miss you.

Victoria: Yes, well, billy will keep them so busy I doubt they’ll notice that I’m gone. But I was wondering if maybe you wanted to take a little time before we go to have a conversation with harrison about your health.

Ashland: Well, I don’t want to deal with tara. When we spoke earlier, she was so unreasonable. I just don’t need the aggravation right now.

Victoria: Well, don’t let your frustration with her keep you away from your son.

Ashland: She’s just being so irrational. I mean, I doubt that she’d even allow me to talk to him alone. She’d probably be nervous that i would say something about my illness without her there to supervise.

Victoria: Why is it so important for you to talk to him on your own?

Ashland: I get so little time with him as it is.

Victoria: It has to be more than just that.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] You know, there’s so much tension between tara and me right now. He picks up on that. It’s got to be stressful for him. I mean, I heard that he had nightmares after what happened in the park. We can’t predict what he’s gonna remember about me when he grows up — maybe nothing at all. But maybe it’ll stick with him, you know, when his dad told him he was sick. And that’s why I want it to be calm and comforting and reassuring. And I want it to be between me and my son. And if tara’s there, you know, I’m sure she’ll find a way to make it about her.

Victoria: Well, obviously, i don’t know her as well as you do, but I’m looking at this as a mother, and I can tell you, if billy had something unsettling to tell the kids, I’d want to be there. I mean, I probably wouldn’t say very much, but I’d want to show them my support, regardless of what was going on with their father. I think that it would be good for harrison to receive this message from both of his parents.

Ashland: Well, I suppose it’s worth considering from that perspective.

Tara: Hi.

Jack: Hi.

Tara: How’s harrison?

Kyle: Good. He’s napping upstairs.

Tara: What did you need to talk to me about?

Kyle: We wanted to make sure you’re okay. We got a strange message from phyllis.

Tara: [ Sighs ] I’m not surprised. Did you she tell you that she’s been spying on me?

Jack: No, we deduced that on our own, and for the record, we are not okay with that.

Kyle: But I want to know what’s happening ’cause you said that you needed some time for yourself, and then you went to the grand phoenix with sally.

Tara: I told you that because I didn’t want you involved.

Jack: Actually, that’s what we’re trying to clear up. Involved in what, exactly?

Tara: Uh, I got this text. It was troubling. Kyle may have noticed.

Kyle: I did. I remember you seemed bothered by it.

Tara: Yeah, it was from sally, I thought. But it didn’t make any sense and I was confused, so I went to ask her about it.

Jack: And what did the text say?

Tara: I don’t remember exactly, and I deleted it, but it was something like, “phyllis is a problem.”

Jack: What could that have meant?

Tara: Like I said, it was confusing. But sally put it together that phyllis sent it to me from sally’s phone. I mean [Chuckles] It’s childish and ridiculous and such a waste of time. And now she’s roping you into this mess? I mean, what exactly did she say?

Kyle: Not much, but she did send this video. You seem pretty upset with sally. What was that all about? Discomfort back there?

Tara: I can’t believe this. I mean, I’d heard that phyllis had been watching us, but to not only admit it but to send you this footage, I mean, that’s creepy. Is she obsessed? I mean, what could she hope to prove by this video?

Jack: We were hoping that maybe you could tell us.

Tara: All I know is that i was right not to trust her offer of friendship.

Jack: We have not spoken to phyllis since she sent this video. We’re just trying to figure things out. Maybe you could explain what’s happening in that video.

Kyle: Like when you showed sally your phone. What did you want her to see?

Tara: The text I received, and then she showed me hers to prove that she didn’t send it. I mean, honestly, I wasn’t sure what to believe, and I flew off the handle a bit. I’m kind of embarrassed.

Jack: There is no need to be embarrassed.

Tara: It’s just that sally’s constantly complaining about phyllis, and it felt like, in the moment, she was trying to enlist my help in her pointless feud. It was all just too much, and i reacted emotionally. You know the kind of strain I’ve been under, trying to start a new life and expand my business and dealing with ashland’s lashing out at me.

Jack: We both know how persistent phyllis can be, particularly when she thinks she’s protecting her daughter.

Tara: I didn’t do anything to summer. I don’t know where this is coming from. Jack, I know that I told you i didn’t need any help dealing with her, but maybe I was wrong. I mean, I have faced down some vicious women in my time, but this goes beyond anything I’ve ever encountered.

Jack: Look, I’ve already spoken to phyllis — in general terms, I never mentioned your name. I told her to ease off on everyone, that we all have our own issues that we have to deal with.

Tara: I don’t think she took your message to heart.

Kyle: And I talked to her this morning. I got the indication that she’s mad that you’re here and summer isn’T. I told her there was no sense in blaming you for summer leaving.

Tara: Well, it sounds like phyllis won’t stop until she’s run harrison and me out of town.

Jack: You know what? I’m gonna deal with this right now.

Ashland: Well, I’m certain that you would handle a sensitive situation with grace and poise, but tara, on the other hand, is only using our son to punish me.

Victoria: Well, I don’t disagree, but, I mean, maybe you could get her to come around by trying a different approach. Find a compromise. You are a world-class negotiator, so negotiate. It would be what’s best for harrison.

Ashland: Why are you so good at this? Getting through to me and changing my perspective?

Victoria: It’s simple. I just respect you enough to tell you the unvarnished, whether you want to hear it or not.

Ashland: Well, that’s refreshing. There was far too much varnish in my marriage.

Victoria: On both sides, no doubt.

Ashland: No doubt. God, I wish I’d met you years ago.

Victoria: You know, I’ve had the same thought. But who knows if the younger versions of ourselves would’ve hit it off or appreciated each other for the right reasons?

Ashland: I can’t imagine any version of myself not falling head over heels for you.

Victoria: Head over heels? That sounds like you’re saying —

Ashland: Something i should’ve said a lot sooner. You just forget all that garbage I said about not letting things go too far between us emotionally. That wasn’t to protect you. It was about protecting myself. I didn’t want to be reminded of how little time I have left or what I’m gonna miss out on. None of that seems to matter now.

Victoria: No, it doesn’T. It just means that we don’t have any time to waste. We have to take advantage of every moment that we have together.

The more we get together

Devon: [ Exhales sharply ] Hey. Why’d you get out of bed? I was gonna bring you a snack since I promised you dinner and we never made it.

Amanda: Yeah, well, that is my own fault. I let myself get distracted.

Devon: It’s the shirt’s fault, actually. Blame it. ‘Cause now that it’s on you and I see it, it is a really nice shirt.

[ Both chuckle ]

Amanda: We can’t let this expensive wine go to waste.

Devon: Oh, we sure can’T. And I noticed that you didn’t hold back when I told you to open something good.

Amanda: You said we were celebrating. Not that I want to talk about the case.

Devon: Well, listen, if it’s on your mind and you do want to talk about it, I’m open for it.

Amanda: [ Sighs ] It is on my mind, despite your best efforts.

[ Chuckles ]

Devon: I understand. I understand. I don’t know how it couldn’t be. It’s — it’s a very big deal to find out who you are and where you came from and how different your life could’ve been.

Amanda: Yeah. I can’t stop thinking about if richard had lived, you know, and he found me and hilary. We could’ve grown up here in genoa city together. He had a good, stable job. I could’ve had a normal middle-class upbringing. And I would’ve grown up to be a completely different person — you know, driven, just not so focused on trying to prove myself.

Devon: Could’ve gone the other direction, too.

Amanda: Yeah, I guess you’re right. Maybe if my father did raise me on his own, I would’ve felt a little more stung when my mother rejected me.

Devon: I was thinking more that if richard had survived, he’d have been able to convince naya to be more involved in her daughters’ lives.

Amanda: I doubt that. Sutton would not have liked that. And the one thing that I’ve learned about naya — she is never gonna stand up to her father.

Tara: I’m relieved that harrison doesn’t seem to be affected by all this stress and suspicion surrounding you and me.

Kyle: Yeah, he’s just a kid playing with his toys, watching his cartoons, impervious to what’s happening. I envy him.

Tara: Well, our toddler seems to be more mature than some of the adults I’ve been dealing with lately.

Kyle: That’s true.

Tara: At least ashland’s illness gives him an excuse for his behavior. Phyllis just seems to like stirring things up wherever she can.

Kyle: It’s more complicated than that. Like my dad, she’s protective, sometimes overly so, of her daughter. I’ve been on her list more than once. It’s not a fun place to be, but in phyllis’ eyes, anything she does for summer’s sake is justified.

Tara: Well, that I get. I mean, there’s nothing i wouldn’t do for our son.

Kyle: Really?

[ Knock on door ]

Tara: [ Sighs ] It’s ashland. What now?

Jack: I got a bone to pick with you. What exactly are you playing at?

Phyllis: I was expecting you. What took you so long? What did tara have to tell you?

Jack: Tara has grown weary of your constant antagonism. Frankly, so have I.

Phyllis: Well, I don’t know what you’re talking about because I’m just seeing a bunch of red flags, and I’m just gathering the data, that’s all. And by the way, when I’m truly antagonistic, tara will know.

Jack: Oh, you’re doing a lot more than gathering information. Did you really steal sally’s phone to send a fake text?

Phyllis: Oh, please, don’t get all bent out of shape on that. Those two little scammers are reacting to every little bit of scrutiny. How come you’re not asking for an explanation from them? How come you’re not interrogating them?

Jack: I got an explanation. Phyllis, you need to back off of tara. I don’t blame her for being put out by all your attacks.

Phyllis: Ohh. Poor, innocent tara. Poor girl. Ask yourself this — why, when she got the text, did she run over here immediately? Why was she arguing with sally in my elevator?

Jack: Why don’t you tell me?

Phyllis: I will tell you — because she’s afraid of getting caught. That’s why. I mean, she’s living large at the abbott mansion, isn’t she? She has new business opportunities, new friends — all because of you and kyle. She doesn’t want to lose that.

Jack: And why would she? And don’t give me insinuation, give me hard facts — real proof.

Phyllis: Well, I can run an investigation until I have proof? That’s not how it works. And by the way, you are turning a blind eye to everything that’s in front of you.

[ Sighs ] Because you want to believe everything that sally and tara are telling you.

Jack: Oh, and what is that?

Phyllis: That I’m wrong. That i am just angry because my daughter left town. I’m the scapegoat here. I swear, those two — those two little girls ran my daughter out of town, and I will get the proof. Believe me, I will get the proof. Why do I not get the benefit of the doubt from you? Why does my daughter not get it? What about your son? Why?

[ Sighs ] Have you even talked to sally about the —

Jack: I was on my way to do that right now.

Phyllis: Okay, well, go do that. Go do that, and don’t let her talk her way out of this.

Jack: I know what you’re suggesting. I resent the insinuation.

Phyllis: Resent it all you want. I brought in ensure max protein,

Ashland: I’m leaving tonight. I thought you might like to know.

Tara: Where are you going?

Ashland: Victoria and I are headed to new york to meet with the locke communication group executive team.

Kyle: Preparing for the merger?

Ashland: Something like that. I’d like to say goodbye to harrison before I leave.

Tara: I think that would be alright, as long as you don’t mention anything else, like the diagnosis. We still need to discuss how we’re gonna handle that.

Ashland: Well, I’d be willing to revisit that now — privately.

Kyle: I’ll have my phone on me. Call me if you need me.

Tara: I’ll be fine. You seem to have cooled off since last we spoke.

Ashland: Well, I’ve spent some time reflecting and discussing the situation with victoria. She’s helping me see it from a mother’s perspective.

Tara: I hope that means that you’re willing to break the news together.

Ashland: I’d like to explain it to him myself, but I have no objection to you being present. It may help him. He could use his mother’s support, no doubt.

Tara: I can agree to that.

Ashland: There’s something else I wanted to let you know about I’m going to start treatment for my cancer after all. The odds of success are not good, but I’m not willing to surrender, so I’m gonna fight this.

Tara: I’m glad. That’ll give us some hope, and i think that will be especially important for harrison to hear about.

Ashland: I agree. So maybe it was best that we waited till now to tell him. But I really don’t want to postpone it any longer, so can we do this now?

Tara: Okay. I’ll go get him.

Devon: I can only imagine how difficult it was growing up for naya to have a father that’s that manipulative, you know? ‘Cause it’s clearly messed with her head if she’s willing to sacrifice herself by going to damn prison just to protect him.

Amanda: I do think that i could change her attitude on that. But I am not hopeful — you know, her “protect daddy” instinct is pretty ingrained.

Devon: Yeah. You have to give it to her, though. I mean, that’s — from when you first met her, she’s come a long way. She denied that you were even her daughter.

Amanda: She was looking at me the way that sutton does, like a problem, a shameful mistake from the past.

Devon: Yeah, I don’t know about that, though. I don’t know. I think that knowing what we know now, I think naya knows that there’s something wrong with sutton, and she may have been afraid that if she brought you close to the family, you’d see him for who he really was and you’d expose him.

Amanda: Yeah, and that’s exactly what happened.

Devon: I know it is, and that’s my point is that she still made the decision to bring you into the family, and I mean, she — she put you on his legal team.

Amanda: What are you saying? That you think, on some level, naya wanted the truth to come out?

Devon: I don’t know. I don’t know if I’d go that far. I know that she had plenty of opportunities to push you out of their lives for good. She knew what was at stake if she didn’T. She didn’t go that route. She hung on to you. She hung on to her daughter. Which makes me believe that you guys’ relationship, it can heal.

Sally: So, I assume you’re here to discuss what happened. So my only question is, did you hear about it from tara or phyllis?

Jack: I spoke to both of them. Now I want your explanation, and please, please be straight with me.

Sally: I mean, I think it’s pretty obvious what’s going on here. Phyllis has it out for me. She’s trying to turn everyone against me, and not just you, but tara, too, and I have to work with her. I don’t want this to affect my career. Isn’t there anything that you can do to get her to back off?

Jack: I made my feelings quite clear to phyllis. That is not why I’m here. I want you to tell me what you and tara were talking about in the elevator.

Sally: Tara received a text message from my phone, sent by phyllis, and she confronted me and told me that she didn’t want any part of this drama, and i don’t blame her. I don’t want any part of it either, but phyllis is not giving me a choice. I mean, stealing my phone and impersonating me via text? Who does that?

Jack: What did the text say?

Sally: I don’t know. I don’t know, I never saw it. But it was clearly something about phyllis, and that was enough —

Jack: You never saw it?

Sally: Phyllis deleted it from my phone before sneaking it back to me. She is out of control, jack, and I haven’t even mentioned the spying.

Jack: Phyllis sent me the security video from the elevator.

Sally: Oh, my god, that’s so gross.

Jack: Look for yourself. She is clearly showing you the text.

Sally: Okay. Well, I did see it, but it was quick. I just saw that it was from my phone. I didn’t actually read the words. Jack, does it really matter?

Jack: Yes, it matters! It matters that I can’t trust you to tell me the truth. Sally: Jack, please don’t overreact to something so small. If you let phyllis raise these doubts about me, you’re just playing into her hand.

Jack: All I asked for was a simple explanation. You couldn’t give me that.

Sally: I told you the truth. If I can’t recall the exact wording of the text message, it’s because it didn’t matter. What should shock you is that phyllis stole my phone and sent a text in the first place. Your good friend keeps trying to undermine me professionally and personally. You’re okay with that?

Jack: Sally, you’re not helping your case with all these efforts to redirect my attention to phyllis and away from the question at hand.

Sally: Jack —

Jack: It only makes me question what else you’re concealing.

Sally: I’m not hiding anything.

Jack: Oh, god, I actually believe that. At this point, I honestly think it’s instinct on your part to deflect blame. And I can understand that, but I — what I can’t do is build a relationship with someone i can’t completely trust. Look, as much as I’ve enjoyed our time together, I —

Sally: No, jack, just please don’t finish that thought. Okay, let’s just take a step back. We’ll put all this aside and we will go to dinner as we planned. We can get past this. We are so good together.

Jack: I thought so, too. But, you know, as compatible as we are, I can’t shake the feeling we’re always gonna end up right here. You making excuses, me questioning my judgment. I need a lot more than that.

Sally: [ Exhales sharply ]

Ashland: [ Laughs ] There’s my boy! Come over here!

[ Laughs ] You almost fell. Oh, it’s good to see you, buddy boy. Good to see you. Come have a seat. Come have a seat. I just wanted to stop by because I’m taking a trip to new york, and I wanted to see you and tell you a few things. You know, I haven’t been feeling well lately. And in fact, I’ve been feeling kind of yucky.

Harrison: Your heart?

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] No. They fixed my heart a little while ago, but I should know that my smart boy would remember that. This is something different. The doctors fixed the heart, and I’m hoping that they can fix this problem, too.

Tara: They have some of the best doctors in the work in new york.

Ashland: They sure do. And I’m hoping that they can give me some special medicine so that I don’t feel yucky anymore and that I can go hunt frogs and maybe go to a baseball game with my favorite little boy. Who would be…who?

Harrison: Me!

Ashland: That’s right. That is right! ‘Cause I want to spend as much time with you as I can.

Kyle: Hey, victoria. Heard you were going to new york tonight.

Victoria: Hi. Yes, I am. I take it you were at the house when ashland came over to talk to harrison?

Kyle: I just left to give them some privacy. I hope I didn’t make a mistake leaving them alone. Things got pretty volatile the last time they spoke.

Victoria: He’ll be fine. He just didn’t want to leave until the two of them were on better terms.

Kyle: That’d be a nice change in attitude. I guess you get some of the credit for that.

Victoria: Well, we all just want what’s best for that little boy.

Kyle: Tara and I were just saying the same thing. So how much has ashland told you about her?

Victoria: Not a lot. But I know how hurt he was when he found out that harrison was not his biological son.

Kyle: Yeah, she didn’t even tell me she was pregnant. I had no clue ashland was raising my son as his own for years.

Victoria: Well, I guess there’s something that we both know about tara — she’s very good at keeping secrets. I’m sorry, are the two of you rekindling things?

Kyle: No. We’re just living in the same house, co-parenting, so we’re spending a lot of time together, that’s all.

Victoria: Okay, well, be careful. Psoriatic arthritis, made my joints stiff,

Phyllis: Hey, how’d it go?

Jack: None of your business.

Phyllis: That bad, huh?

Jack: You know, I don’t know what’s going on here. I don’t know who’s telling the truth. But one area I agree with sally — you’re enjoying this, aren’t you?

Phyllis: No, I am not. I am not enjoying this at all. I know you like her. I wish I was wrong about sally and tara, but I don’t think i am. Do you?

Jack: All I know is that you will never change.

Phyllis: You say that like it’s a bad thing.

Amanda: Mmm! Cheese, crackers, and ice cream. You really know how to show a girl a good time, huh?

Devon: Well, you can always count on me when you need a good distraction.

Amanda: Yeah, from my ultra-dysfunctional family — my grandfather, the criminal, my mother, who idolizes him, and my father and sister who I will never get a chance to meet.

Devon: Don’t forget about imani. That started off a little rocky, but she’s coming around. I think there’s some real potential with that relationship.

Amanda: You’re always so positive. You always see the good in everything.

Devon: I try to.

Victoria: I’m so happy for both of you. I ran into kyle earlier at the coffee house, and he told me that he left you and tara alone to talk to him.

Ashland: Yes, he gave us some privacy, which was good of him, and surprising because he’s usually hovering around tara. She’s got him wrapped around her little finger.

Victoria: I’m not so sure about that.

Sally: I thought I was safe to say that I hadn’t seen the text message. I didn’t know phyllis gave the video to him of you showing it to me. God, that bitch.

Tara: Sally, you have got to calm down.

Sally: No, she’s out to ruin my life. I’m losing jack over this.

Tara: I’m sorry that jack is upset, but you got to give it time. Let things calm down.

Sally: I think it’s just too late for that. I mean, I’ve run out of chances with him. And honestly, given how he was acting, I think you’re on thin ice, too.

Tara: Actually, I think everything on my end is fine. I mean, we both gave the same explanation for the elevator conversation. You handled it the best way you could. Thanks for the update.

Lauren: Wow. Who’s the lucky lady? Do I know her?

Jack: As a matter of fact, you know her well. Sally and I are giving it another shot.

Lauren: Oh. Uh… [ Chuckles ] I’m a bit surprised.

Jack: Do you think it’s a mistake?

Sally: Well, I found three more erroneous charges on my bill. This is getting ridiculous.

Phyllis: Ugh. Listen, I am so sorry. Whoever is responsible for this will get an earful from me.

Sally: You’re the boss. Doesn’t the buck stop with you?

Phyllis: You’re right. I am in control.

[ Clears throat ] So, sally, uh, just go ahead and after you’re done marking off the charges that aren’t yours, put them in charge in this folder, and I’ll take care of it.

Sally: Well, good, because i am not paying for one cent of any of these.

Phyllis: You’re right. You will only be paying for what you are responsible for. I promise you that.

Kyle: So…tell me more about what went down with ashland.

Tara: Well, he sees me as the enemy. I tried to plead with him, appeal to his sense of compassion, but it was futile. I mean, thankfully jack came home in the middle of our conversation before things could get too heated. Ashland seemed to ease off a little bit in jack’s presence, but I could still see the fury behind his eyes. I just feel like he is weaponizing telling harrison the truth, and that now it is this ticking time bomb.

Kyle: That’s not right. How do you want to handle things moving forward? Are you gonna let ashland talk to harrison alone like you said he wanted?

Tara: We can’t wait for him to be reasonable ’cause it’s never going to happen. I think I should tell harrison with you by my side.

Kyle: Oh, won’t that only make ashland angrier?

Tara: I don’t know, but i just — I feel really helpless right now, and I’m worried about what ashland is gonna do next, and I just — I really want to be proactive.

Kyle: Okay. I know you have harrison’s best interests at heart, but I think sharon had the right idea. Her professional opinion made sense to me — that you and ashland should break the news to harrison alone. I mean, this is the most important conversation you’ll ever have with him. There’s no need to rush it.

Tara: Maybe you’re right. You are probably seeing things a little more clearly than I am. And I am very grateful that i have you to talk everything through with.

Kyle: This is about all of us. So we’re waiting?

Tara: Yes. Hopefully ashland will cool off and I will be able to talk to him again.

Kyle: Sounds good.

Tara: [ Chuckles ]

Kyle: You still seem a bit anxious. Is there something else bothering you?

Tara: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: If that’s your way of saying that I’m hard-headed, probably know some people that agree with you.

Devon: Aw, so have you. I hope that smile on your face is ’cause mariah’s come back.

Abby: No, I — I wish. I’m just as worried about her as I was before. Maybe more.

Abby: She sent a couple text messages. She did say that she’d be home before the next doctor’s appointment, which is within the week.

Devon: Okay. Well, that’s a relief that she said that. I really thought she’d be back by now, though.

Abby: Me, too. I just hope that she means it when she says that she’s coming back soon and that she’ll be in a good place when she gets here.

Tara: I suppose nothing else is the matter besides my entire life being turned upside down. I mean, it has just been one thing after another, and it doesn’t seem to stop. First it was ashland finding out about our affair. Then it was the divorce and then the custody arrangements, and now finding out ashland’s dying. I uprooted my entire life and harrison’s to try to find a way to deal with this situation the best I could. And I can’t see any true peace for my little boy in the near future.

Kyle: You and I are gonna do everything we can to help him through this.

Tara: I know we’re gonna try, but I don’t think we’re gonna be able to protect our little, sweet boy from everything.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Kyle: Hey, it’s mine.

Tara: Right.

[ Sighs ]

Kyle: I don’t need to take this. I’ll send it to voicemail.

Tara: Yeah.

Kyle: And I know you have so much going on right now, and of course you’re on edge. Is there anything I can do for you?

Tara: You know what? I think I’m gonna need a little time alone. I think I’m gonna — I’m gonna go for a drive.

Kyle: Okay.

Tara: Yeah. Harrison is gonna be dropped off soon from a play date. Do you think you could watch him for me?

Kyle: Yeah, no problem. Not touching is still touching protection.

Abby: I want to make sure that mariah’s homecoming is everything that she needs it to be, so — so no more nagging, no more hovering. I don’t want to put any pressure on mariah at all.

Devon: Yeah, but you’re being too hard on yourself. I never saw any nagging. You’ve just been concerned, that’s all.

Abby: [ Sighs ] I’m not so sure about that. Looking back at it, I mean, even now, I mean, I was trying to find a way to track mariah through her cellphone. Yeah, that way I could figure out where she was, and then i stopped myself because i realized that that would be an invasion of privacy and that is exactly what mariah has been asking us for — privacy.

Devon: Yeah, and I’m glad you’re respecting that.

Abby: She has sent us a message loud and clear, so when she gets back, if you see me being overprotective, please stop me because the last thing i want to do is drive her away again.

Devon: Oh, no, no one’s gonna have to stop you from doing anything. You guys obviously just had a miscommunication, and now that you know how she feels about everything and you’re aware of that dynamic, you’re gonna be just fine.

Abby: Yeah, I hope so.

Devon: Yeah.

Abby: You know, I really haven’t been asking you how you’re feeling about everything. I haven’t been putting any pressure on you, have I?

Devon: No. No, not at all. I knew what I was getting myself into when I started this journey with you. I’m still happy to be on it, no matter how unpredictable it gets. And I’m glad that I can be there for you while chance is gone, too.

Abby: Yeah, I definitely did not think he was gonna be away this long. I thought that we would be decorating the nursery and reading baby books and picking out baby names — not the jokey ones that we talked about before.

Devon: I know. You’ll be able to do that soon. And now that I’m always here to lean on if you need somebody. And I’m not the only person in your corner. You have all the abbotts, the newmans, nina, tessa, got a lot of friends and family that will do anything for you. So you are definitely not alone in all this.

Abby: [ Sighs, chuckles ]

Nina: Hiya.

Tessa: Oh, hi.

Tessa: Oh, no.

Nina: You can tell me. What were you looking at?

Tessa: Uh… that app that stitch was talking about. Tracking people’s locations through their phones, I — I found it. And I think I know enough of mariah’s personal information and passwords to make it work.

Nina: I see. I didn’t know that you were still considering that.

Tessa: Look, I know that you and abby are against this, but i can’t do nothing. And don’t take this the wrong way, but I’m not gonna argue about it.

Nina: No, I’m not gonna argue with you about it either. Mariah’s your partner. You have to do what you feel is right.

Mariah: [ Exhales deeply ] Feel that, kiddo?

[ Sighs ] Calm, measured yoga breathing. I’m doing my best to pass that serenity on to you. ‘Cause no stress for me means no stress for you. I’m just trying to pretend that there is some sense of normalcy here because this is all very, very normal. Okay. Okay, let’s start over. Try it again.

Nate: Okay. Remember when I had some good news, but I wanted to sit on it until it was locked in?

Elena: Of course I do. I remember I tried to seduce it out of you that night. But somehow you resisted my charms.

Nate: Oh, the way I remember it, I didn’t resist.

[ Both chuckle ]

Elena: Yeah, but you didn’t tell me what was going on.

Nate: Ah. I guess I was having so much fun I forgot.

Elena: Well, I’m not opposed to trying that approach again if I have to.

Nate: Okay, good to know, but it’s not necessary. Wait, what am I saying? No, no, we can do that again. Yeah, we can go back to your place and —

Elena: I’m gonna kill you if you don’t spit it out.

Abby: Well, that is fantastic. Okay, well, I want to live vicariously through you, okay? Please tell me all about everything, all about your life.

Devon: All about my life?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Devon: Okay. Well, work is going great. It’s been really nice having moses stay with me. It’s been fun. But I don’t know, I guess the main source of my happiness these days is from amanda.

Jack: Where’s harrison?

Kyle: He came from his play date exhausted, so he’s taking a nap.

Jack: Oh, I’m sorry I missed him. I was gonna grab a snack. You hungry?

Kyle: Not really.

Jack: You know, there’s a ball game on. We could check it out.

Kyle: I’m not really in the mood.

Jack: Okay. Something’s going on. What is it?

Kyle: I had a conversation with phyllis.

Jack: Oh, that would do it. About what?

Kyle: She thinks tara is somehow involved with summer leaving town, that she orchestrated the whole thing.

Jack: I know all about phyllis’ theories with tara. It upsets me as much as it does you. Look, she had tara in tears not long ago. I don’t know why she feels so compelled to stick her nose in other people’s business. It just makes me wonder about her more than it does about what she’s saying is true.

Kyle: I know she’s also hurt that summer left town so suddenly, but —

Jack: You think she’s looking to blame someone, that she just seized on tara?

Kyle: That’s what I’m thinking.

Jack: Okay, well, I have told her multiple times to back off, and she will not drop it, not with tara and not with sally.

Kyle: Sally — interesting you bring her up, because phyllis was linking tara and sally, as well. She thinks they’re working together as co-conspirators.

Sally: Tara! It’s nice to see you. What are you doing here?

Tara: I came about my shoe line and the possibility of collaborating with jcv.

Sally: Of course, yeah, let’s sit down.

Tara: Actually, I think it would be better if we went up to your suite.

Sally: Sure, yeah. Let’s go upstairs.

Tara: Tell me what happened. Are you out of your mind sending that text?

Jack: Are you actually buying into phyllis’ theory?

Kyle: Okay, I admit, I let her get into my head earlier. She had me wondering if tara was up to something.

Jack: So where are you on this now?

Kyle: The idea that tara put together this elaborate plot on top of everything she’s dealing with right now, it’s ridiculous, so, no, I don’t think tara’s scheming behind our backs.

Jack: I agree. I don’t think she’s capable of being this devious.

Kyle: Right. But sally, on the other hand…

Jack: Why would you blame sally for anything?

Kyle: Summer leaves town, sally gets her job at jcv, a job she never would have been —

Jack: Let me interrupt. Has phyllis given you any evidence to support these suspicions?

Kyle: No. But she claims she was working on finding some.

Jack: Summer recommended sally for the job. You know that. If sally was manipulating things, that doesn’t make any sense. I know she’s done some questionable things in the past, but I honestly believe she’s trying to change.

Kyle: Okay, trying is not necessarily succeeding, and i know you don’t want to hear this, dad, but you’ve been down this road with sally. I don’t want to see you get hurt again.

Phyllis: Well, look at that. Someone’s irritated, someone’s confused.

Tara: Let’s get something straight. I am not about to let you risk my life or my son’S.

Sally: I have no idea what you’re talking about. What on earth did I do to put anything at risk? The only thing I’ve been focused on lately is my job and jack.

Tara: And phyllis. I mean, what could she know that would be so important that you would send blatant and incriminating texts to my phone. Anyone who sees that would have proof of our collusion.

Sally: Okay, the more you talk, the more confused I get.

Tara: What in god’s name is so confusing?

Sally: I didn’t send any texts about phyllis. What the hell? I didn’t send that. And — yeah, I don’t have any record of a message like that on my phone. Phyllis. Oh, my god, that conniving bitch.

Tara: What? You think that phyllis sent that text from your phone?

Sally: [ Sighs ] Go wait in my suite.

Tara: Why? What are you gonna do?

Sally: I’m gonna handle phyllis.

Tessa: I don’t want to push mariah further away, but I’m worried sick.

Nina: And you weren’t reassured by her latest texts?

Tessa: Not really. Because when I texted her back to ask her to send me some clue if something were wrong, she didn’t respond, which makes me think that something is actually wrong. I can’t explain it. It’s just a gut feeling.

Nina: You have to trust your instincts.

Tessa: Mariah’s the woman i love, and I can’t stand not knowing whether she’s okay. I know you and abby want to lay off so she feels comfortable enough to come home, but I can’t do it. And if nothing else is wrong, then I’m to blame, and she’ll be furious at me, so I’m turning on this app to track her phone.

Mariah: [ Sighs ] I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you. I guess I just have to look at it from your perspective. There are no windows in there, and there are no windows in here. So I guess we just have to wait. Because we are not getting out of this room. Believe me, I have tried everything. I have screamed and I’ve prayed and I’ve begged and I’ve threatened, and whoever is keeping us in here is giving us the serious silent treatment. Don’t worry, though, okay, kiddo? I’m gonna find a way to get us out of here, okay? I’m gonna get you back to your mom safe and sound…somehow.

Devon: No, amanda and I have been getting closer and closer every day. She’s — she’s something special. I’ve been in awe of her lately throughout this case she’s taken on for her family, ’cause it’s just — it’s put her through a lot of emotional stress. She’s stayed really strong through it.

Abby: Well, I do have to agree with you about amanda. She is brilliant and beautiful and she is exactly what you need, in my humble opinion.

Devon: I appreciate that opinion. It’s crazy, though, to think about how she came into my life. Colin using her to try and steal my money.

Abby: Well, I would give more credit to fate than colin, and then it was up to the two of you to get past your animosity and realize that you have something special.

Devon: Yeah, that’s true. It was an odd start, but we really did connect.

Abby: I have to ask, how does she feel about your involvement with baby chancellor? I mean, especially now that the due date is getting closer.

Devon: She’s been supportive since day one, when she gave me her legal opinion about our contract.

Abby: Well, that is a huge relief because some people might not be that supportive.

Devon: No? Are you talking about anyone in particular? Maybe an ex of yours?

Abby: Ben?

Devon: Uh-huh.

Abby: No, no, ben is happy for me. And, yes, ben and I, we once shared a love for each other, but that was a long time ago. You know, and now we’ve both moved on and it’s kind of like being around an old friend. I’m actually happy that he’s gonna be moving here.

Devon: Oh, really, he is? I thought he was just here for the party and then decided to stay a little longer. He’s gonna move here?

Phyllis: Oh. Surely there’s not another problem with your bill?

Sally: What the hell is wrong with you?

Phyllis: Excuse me?

Sally: You have some serious issues and no ethical boundaries.

Phyllis: Um…I’m sorry, I’m confused. I mean, we credited your account. There should be no problem. I offered you a spa day. You know, maybe you’re stressed out. Now would be a good time to use it.

Sally: Save it. Nice really doesn’t work for you. It comes across as cloying and fake.

Phyllis: Oh, I’m sorry you feel that way.

Sally: You distracted me with that whole bogus bill charade so that you could steal my phone and send that twisted text.

Phyllis: Um…I’m sorry, I’m confused. Why would I send a text from your phone when mine works perfectly fine? Why would I do that? Um, anyway, maybe you did it and you just forgot. But what was on that text that has you so upset?

Sally: You think that you’re smarter and more devious than i am, but you are making a big mistake underestimating me.

Jack: I realize your heart is in the right place in warning me about sally, but I assure you i am going into this with my eyes wide open.

Kyle: Going into what, exactly?

Jack: She and I are having dinner together tonight.

Kyle: Okay. Well, you know how I feel. I’ve said my piece. I guess I don’t have any more proof than phyllis does that sally is involved with summer leaving, so…

[ Cellphones vibrate ] From phyllis.

Jack: Yeah, god only knows what this could be.

Kyle: Hmm, it’s a video file.

Jack: Yeah, there’s no sound. Security footage.

Kyle: Of tara and sally arguing.

Jack: About what?

Kyle: Mm, no idea, but the time stamp on the video says it was recorded in the last hour.

Jack: They’re looking at their phones. What could that be about?

Phyllis: Oh, sally. I don’t underestimate you at all. I really don’T. But I am curious why you’re so upset.

Sally: Oh, you don’t know? Okay, alright, cool. Let me show you. Give me your phone. I’d like to send a few text messages. There’s some things I’d really like to get off my chest.

Phyllis: Okay. [ Chuckles ] Okay, listen, for argument’s sake, for argument’s sake, let’s say I did send that text. Why would you be so scared?

Sally: I am not scared.

Phyllis: Oh, I think you are scared.

Sally: What you did is an invasion of privacy. I could press charges for theft.

Phyllis: What did I steal?

Sally: You impersonated me. That is identity theft.

Phyllis: Oh, please.

[ Chuckles ] But something on that text has you really freaked out. What could it be that would make you so angry? I mean, the way that you’re acting, it’s really next-level.

Sally: You know nothing about what hits me on any level.

Phyllis: I think I do. I think your buttons have been pushed. Someone’s pushed your buttons. You come clean right now. You tell me what you and tara did to my daughter.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Kyle: I hate having to question tara like this. She is the mother of my child.

Jack: I know that, but this video raises enough questions to at least warrant a conversation.

Kyle: Yeah, what if we’re jumping to conclusions?

Jack: I hope we are. But whatever’s going on, we need some answers.

Abby: Ben’s moving back because he was offered a job at the hospital. And, yes, I might remind him of a good time in his life before max’s illness, but there’s nothing more to it than that.

Devon: You sure?

Abby: I am, yeah, 100%. And actually, he’s been a happy distraction from worrying about mariah and the baby. He’s given me a lot more support than I expected.

Devon: Okay. Alright, well, hey, that’s — that’s just me being protective of you, that’s all. If you’re happy, then I am happy.

Abby: I am. Ben and I, we might have had some painful times in the past, but that’s over with. I’m actually really happy for him. I mean, it’s kind of cool that he’s moving back to genoa city. It might be the start of a new chapter in his life. And besides, how can he turn down a job like chief of surgery at memorial?

Nate: Mm.

Elena: Don’t you dare take a sip of that until you tell me what’s going on. No. What is the news? What are we celebrating?

Nate: Okay, I can share it now because the hospital board finally approved it.

Elena: Approved what?

Phyllis: Wow, look at you. You walk in here, accusing me of things. You better tell me what it is.

Kyle: I don’t like these head games you’re playing with tara.

Phyllis: [ Laughs ] Excuse me?

Kyle: Pretending to be her friend when you’re anything but. What’s your angle? What are you trying to accomplish? I understand you’re upset that summer left town, feel the need to find a scapegoat, but you’ve already laid blame on me and the child I refuse to walk away from. Even hinted that I might be interested at starting things up again with his mom, which isn’t even remotely true, so stop taking your anger out on tara because you don’t trust me.

Phyllis: No, it’s tara i don’t trust.

Kyle: Oh, why the hell not?

Phyllis: Kyle, seriously? Do I need to paint a picture for you? Her wealthy husband kicked her out. Now she’s looking for another powerful, wealthy family to latch onto for her and her kid.

Kyle: I am that little boy’s father, and we invited tara to stay.

Phyllis: You invited her to stay because she orchestrated it that way.

Kyle: Oh, damn it, phyllis, that’s —

Phyllis: She’s taking advantage of your generosity. She’s taking advantage of your love for your son. Can you not see that? And tara, I believe, is the person that drove my daughter out of town.

Summer: Oh, my gosh, no. I am so stuffed. The food here is amazing. You know, I debate taking a long lunch every day while I’m at work, even though it’d be very unprofessional of me.

Victor: Of course you don’t, do you?

Summer: No, no, of course not. No, you saw how serious and driven everyone is at marchetti, which I’m so happy that you guys were able to tour the offices.

Nikki: It’s a very impressive operation.

Summer: Right, it is first rate from top to bottom — the resources, the design team, the clients. Oh, which, speaking of, you guys won’t believe who popped in for a fitting last week.

Nikki: Oh, um…european royalty?

Summer: So close. Leslie brooks! She’s actually gonna be wearing one of our gowns for the performance that you guys are going to see.

Nikki: Oh, my goodness. Now I really can’t wait.

Summer: [ Laughs ] Um, also, I’m sorry that you guys didn’t get to meet angelina marchetti while you toured the studio. She’s off traveling, so next time you guys visit, we will for sure make that happen.

Victor: Now, sweetheart, as wonderful as all that sounds, i remember that when you were offered to come to milan, you know, leave genoa city, you went through a difficult time, didn’t you? Have you had any second thoughts about your decision to move away?

Sally: Well, hello there, stranger.

Jack: “Stranger”? Has it been that long?

Sally: I guess not.

Jack: Have a seat. So, how’s your day going so far?

Sally: Good. I just keep thinking about the dinner we had the other night. I really had a great time.

Jack: So did I.

Sally: I miss spending time with you like that. But it is obvious that kyle wasn’t too happy about it because he made that very clear when I ran into him.

Jack: My son has a protective streak when it comes to me. And given certain aspects of your history, I think that’s understandable. In the end, when all is said and done, kyle just wants me to be happy.

Sally: Well, what a coincidence. I want the exact same thing.

Jack: How about that.

Sally: Given the lovely evening that we had and feeling so connected to you again, i can’t help wondering… where do we go from here?

Tara: First of all, I would never try to keep you and harrison from seeing each other. It’s not fair to him.

Ashland: But having sole custody for you is.

Tara: I didn’t ask you here for that. We need to talk about how we’re gonna break the news to harrison about your illness.

Ashland: Oh, and you’re willing to do that for me? That’s very big of you.

Tara: I spoke to a therapist, sharon rosales, and I’d like to share with you what she said about the subject.

Ashland: Yeah, through your filter, no doubt.

Tara: With a child harrison’s age, sharon said it would be best if we were honest and forthright, that we shouldn’t treat your cancer or diagnosis like it was something scary to be hidden away. Illness and death are a part of life, and harrison is old enough to grasp that. We should use language that he can understand when we explain things, and we just need to keep reminding him that we love him and that he has this whole family here that supports him.

Ashland: Well, everything that you’re saying makes sense.

Tara: Good.

Ashland: And we will sit down and have a talk with harrison together, after I speak with him alone.

Tara: Ashland.

Ashland: This news is gonna be devastating enough for him. Let’s not confuse him about where things stand between you and me, give him false hope that we’re a couple again.

Tara: This will be a huge moment. He’ll be upset. I doubt he’s even gonna be thinking about that.

Ashland: A small child whose parents are in the throes of divorcing? I guarantee you that’s going to be part of the calculus.

Tara: I am harrison’s mother. We need to tell him together. It’s what the therapist advised.

Ashland: But this is our decision, and this is my illness. Why are you fighting me on this?

Tara: I am just trying to do what’s best for harrison.

Ashland: Oh, come off it, tara. The only one that you’re thinking about now is yourself.

Victoria: This is a surprise.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, I hope you don’t mind. I just want to stop by and talk to you about how the kids are handling the situation with ashland living here.

Victoria: Is there something going on that I should know about? Johnny have another tummy ache?

Billy: No, he’s feeling better. In fact, he’s back at day camp today.

Victoria: Oh, good. That’s good. Listen, thank you. I appreciate you working with me to make this okay for them and letting them spend the majority of their time with you and lily, at least for the time being.

Billy: We love having them. Before I forget, I saw you and nate talking. I’m assuming you were discussing ashland’s condition.

Victoria: It’s funny you should ask, because I happen to know you spoke to him yourself about the exact same thing.

Billy: I don’t know where you’re getting your information from.

Victoria: You were quizzing nate about an anonymous friend with the exact same symptoms as ashland. What are you doing, billy? Why would you do that? Are you planning another tasteless invasion of the man’s privacy? Or are you truly that concerned about ashland’s condition?

Sally: Being on the defensive all the time, feeling like you’ve got to fight to hold on to what you’ve got, it’S… it’s exhausting. And I really don’t want to do it anymore. But I know that I have to win back your trust, so that’s my goal.

Sally: Okay, well, then maybe if we went on another date, I could relax.

Kyle: Let’s say you’re right. Tara forced summer to break up with me and leave town. How’d she do it? Where’s your proof? ‘Cause surely you have some.

Phyllis: Nah, no proof.

Kyle: Yeah, that’s what i thought.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] Let me tell you something. No, I don’t have proof right now. I don’T. But when I get it, kyle, you’ll be the first person I come to, okay? And I really didn’t want to have this conversation with you right now, but you sort of forced my hand, but I’m not mad. I’m not mad because this is on your radar. Thank goodness. Tara is the reason that my daughter felt the need to break off your engagement and fly on the other side of the ocean.

Kyle: Summer said that to you? Or is this just you, twisting things to fit the story you’ve concocted?

Phyllis: Oh, yeah, how dare you. How dare you. Summer is my daughter. I know her better than anyone. She would’ve never done this. She was forced. I know that. She was forced, and you know what? She didn’t even want me to do this and uncover the truth, but I’m doing it. I don’t care what she says. She’s the one who told me to stop.

Summer: Uh, second thoughts about…?

Victor: Well, you know, severing ties and pulling up stakes.

Nikki: This job offer came out of the blue. You barely had any time to think about it.

Summer: I mean, european haute couture is very hard to break into, so who needed time, really? Okay, yeah, that came out wrong. Now that I’m in italy, yeah, of course I miss my family and genoa city and, yeah, yes, I miss kyle. I am not gonna deny that, but I still think I made the right choice. I wasn’t ready to be a stepmom. I wasn’t ready to deal with kyle’s ex being a constant presence. It was just — it was too much. You know? And I’m sure that kyle is happy to be with his son, and I had to do what was right for me.

Victor: So you think you made the right decision?

Summer: Yeah, absolutely. Right, this is an amazing opportunity, and I feel like I’m at peace with everything.

Victor: Well, then I’m glad to hear that.

Nikki: Me, too.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Victor: I’m sorry, but I need to take that.

Summer: Of course.

Victor: Excuse me. Yes? No, I’m still in milan. Did you get the estimate? Yeah?

[ Door closes ]

Nikki: Well, everything you’ve said sounds reasonable, but it’s just the two of us now, and I want you to be completely honest. Is this really the life you want? With voltaren arthritis pain gel

Kyle: Sorry, no way do i believe tara somehow manipulated summer into leaving. Why would she say she didn’t love me? Why not fight for what we had?

Phyllis: Kyle, listen, this may be difficult for you, but i want you to look back on all the conversations that you had with my daughter. When you decided to move tara and her kid into your house while you were working out a wedding with my daughter? Think over all those conversations and what she said that maybe you didn’t hear at the time.

Kyle: No, no! No. I am letting you do this. I have spent weeks going over every moment I shared with summer, things I could’ve missed or done wrong, trying to find a clue as to explain what happened. I even blamed sally for it.

Phyllis: Okay, stop right there. You’re spot on with sally. You are spot on. I want you too look at this. Tara and sally have both benefited ever since summer left town. I mean, sally, she has her job at jcv, the job that she was after since she arrived in town, and the other one, well, she’s living in your guest room. Those two have benefited ever since my daughter’s been gone. That is not a coincidence. They are in this together.

Ashland: I need to find a way to explain to that sweet boy just how sick his father is, to prepare him for the day that I will no longer be in his life, and I wouldn’t be forced to do this if it weren’t for the news of my illness, my personal, private business being leaked to the media. By you, of that I have no doubt.

Tara: So now you’re gonna resort to wild unfounded accusations?

Ashland: Well, you lied about harrison’s paternity for years. I know what you’re capable of.

Tara: This is exactly what i don’t want you talking to harrison alone, because of the awful things you’re gonna tell him about me.

Ashland: Do you honestly think that I would waste one second I have left on this earth to be vengeful, trying to turn our son against his mother? If I am lucky, I have months with that sweet boy, and you have decades.

Tara: And you resent that, don’t you? You resent me.

Ashland: Oh, this is — you are a master at turning things around and making literally everything about you. No, really, it’s a gift.

Tara: There’s my answer.

Ashland: You’re clearly not thinking what’s best for our son, or else you wouldn’t have filed for sole custody.

Tara: I wasn’t trying to do anything —

Ashland: Don’t do this. Don’t use harrison as a way to gain control of the situation.

Tara: How can you say that with a straight face? You are literally the most controlling man I have ever known. You love to mess with people. You have raised vindictiveness to an art form. Victoria might buy this kinder, gentler version of you, but i have had years of experience with the real thing.

Ashland: You know, this prognosis and the reality I have little time left has definitely changed me, and you know that. But you have not changed a bit. You have traded one comfortable life for another.

Tara: Are you finished?

Ashland: I can only hope that somebody, someone sees all the way through you and exposes you for the fraud that you truly are. And then the whole world will see your true colors.

Billy: Okay, let me just be very clear about something, okay? When I asked nate his opinion about a sick friend, I did not know how close the two of you had gotten. Nate saw right through me and assumed it was for a story — a story that we decided not to publish, by the way.

Victoria: Don’t make any promises that you can’t keep. News is your business, and ashland is news.

Billy: When I told you that i was happy for you, I meant that. Clearly he makes you very happy. And ashland’s not gonna talk to me about how much time he has left. I only put two-and-two together when you let it slip that the kids are only gonna be staying with me for a few months.

Victoria: We have no idea how long ashland has.

Billy: Well, then the most important thing is to follow through with your plan and bring as much joy to each other as you possibly can. Look, vick, I got to be honest. It kind of took my breath away when I realized that you’re not just taking care of a friend or a business partner that got a bad diagnosis. You love him.

Victoria: Don’t sound so surprised.

Billy: You know, after our conversation, I told lily that i think you met the right person at the right time. And how terrible it makes me feel that you’re not gonna have a lot of time together. And I know you’re being brave and you’re trying to put a positive spin on everything, but it’s got to be really devastating for you. And I just hope that you know I’m talking to you as your ex, as the father to your children, as a friend. And you can talk to me about anything, and it’ll stay between us.

Victoria: You’re right. It’s awful. I am in love with him. Ever notice how stiff clothes can feel rough on your skin?

Victoria: You know, ashland, he’s just — he’s such a proud man. And with good reason. He’s — he’s fierce, he’s determined, he’s so intelligent. That’s why it’s really hard watching him struggle with this cancer that he didn’t even know that he had. Makes me wonder if maybe we shouldn’t have merged our companies.

Billy: Well, I don’t know why you would think that. He’s trusting you with his legacy. I mean, he’s got to feel really good knowing that you’re carrying on his vision.

Victoria: It’s just that

[Sighs] So much of who ashland is, is tied up in locke communications group. It’s like he’s handing over this vital part of himself. This is something that gives him purpose.

Billy: Vick, he’s got a lot to live for. And he’s clearly got enough money to get whatever medical help he wants. Is there really nothing his doctors can do?

Victoria: There is treatment for this type of cancer, but the side effects are brutal. It’s not a cure, billy. At best, it will just add some time to his life.

Billy: Are you saying that he’s giving up without a fight?

Victoria: Ash hates the idea of spending his final days being pumped full of drugs that are just gonna leave him feeling weak anyway.

Billy: I find it hard to believe that you’re going along with this.

Victoria: I didn’T. I have been trying to convince him to get the treatments even though he made me promise that i wouldn’T.

Billy: I mean, of course he’s gonna want to spend as much time with you as possible and his kid, of course.

Victoria: Yeah, which makes it even more reprehensible that tara would seek sole custody of harrison. She claims that she’s protecting him. It’s ridiculous. Ashland cut her off financially, and she’s just acting out of spite.

Billy: Does he know how lucky he is that he found you?

Victoria: I hope you know that’s why things are moving along so quickly. I know — I know I’m not acting like my usual cautious self.

Billy: Now that you’ve explained it to me, I can — I understand it.

Victoria: You know, sometimes it’s overwhelming thinking about ashland dying. I just — I can’t let him know how much it hurts.

Billy: That was my concern all along, vick, that you two would get too close and you would fall in too deep.

Victoria: And this is how you support me? By saying “I told you so”?

Phyllis: I understand why you don’t see this.

Kyle: Stop. Enough. You’re totally reaching. Tara and sally barely know each other. They just recently started working together at fenmore’S.

Phyllis: Okay. Kyle, that’s what she wants you to think. Those two are a lot closer than you think.

Kyle: Okay, I get you would’ve preferred tara to pack up and go back to new york.

Phyllis: Yes! Yes, I would have, because that’s where she lives. Why didn’t she?

Kyle: Because I didn’t want to live 1,000 miles away from my son. I intend to be a solid, reliable presence in harrison’s life, and that’s even more important now that ashland is so sick. I get that that’s hard for you to accept. It was apparently a lot harder for summer to accept than she let on. I am asking you to stop taking your emotion out on tara and stop spreading this nonsense that she’s involved in some plot with sally spectra. Tara is going through enough. She doesn’t need people gossiping behind her back or to deal with that.

Phyllis: Alright, I’ll do that on one condition.

Kyle: Here we go.

Phyllis: One condition. Don’t let yourself so blindly be clouded by your love for your son that you can’t see what tara’s doing. Don’t accept what she says so blindly as truth. Okay? Can you do that?

Kyle: Okay, I have things to do. I’m not wasting my time on this anymore. And you know what? You can tell yourself tara orchestrated all this if that makes you feel better, but the bottom line is summer left me. It was her choice.

Summer: Alright. So you think I’m sugarcoating things.

Nikki: I think you don’t want to worry your grandfather and me. But in order for me to feel good about you moving here, I need to really understand what you’re thinking and feeling. Are you truly happy here in milan or simply resigned?

Summer: No, everything that i said before, I meant. You know, I have a great job in an amazing city. And frankly, I don’t think it could’ve come at a better time. There was always a reason why kyle and I would go back and forth, and I just feel like if it was meant to be, it wouldn’t be so hard and there’d be no hesitation on either of our parts, right?

Nikki: I think you’re asking the wrong person.

Summer: Okay, touché.

Nikki: This job with angelina marchetti is very prestigious and it’ll be fun and exciting. I’m sure you’ll gain some fabulous experience.

Summer: But?

Nikki: Even though you knew there was this opening, you didn’t pursue it. This job fell in your lap.

Summer: All I know is, um, now that I’m here, it feels right. And I got to hold on to that ’cause being away from kyle, that — that does not feel right.

Ashland: You know, I have neither the desire nor the strength to continue this. We’ll figure out how and when to discuss what’s going on with me to harrison another time.

Ashland: Because you have made this so adversarial, so what would be the point? As for sitting down and actually discussing this with harrison — who is a smart, sensitive boy — he’s for sure going to pick up on our animosity, and that’s the last thing that I want.

Tara: Right, it’s always me. I’m the problem.

Jack: Everything alright here?

Ashland: Yeah, we were just discussing my illness and how to handle it with harrison. I know you were in the park the other day when I didn’t handle things so well.

Jack: I did not witness the incident at the time.

Ashland: But you have seen the video.

Jack: Not your finest hour.

Ashland: To put it mildly. I sure would like to get my hands on whoever’s responsible for putting it online.

Jack: I can’t blame you there.

Ashland: But right now I need to help harrison figure out what’s going with me in a way that’s not going to frighten or confuse him. And I would really like your help convincing tara that this is a conversation that I need to have with my son alone.

Jack: That can’t have been easy.

Tara: No, it wasn’T. Kyle had a therapist, sharon rosales, come drop by this morning to discuss how best to broach it with harrison.

Jack: I think sharon’s a great resource.

Tara: Yeah, she recommended that we talk to him together, but he has other ideas, as you just heard. And then he went on a personal attack. I just…just want to do what’s best for harrison.

Jack: I think that’s the right priority. And don’t forget — you have support. Our family is here to help you.

Sally: Sally spectra.

Phyllis: Hey, sally, it’s phyllis. Um, ugh, I need to talk to you about something.

Sally: Well, hey, it’s my new best friend, the one who decided to live and let live. You didn’t see me sitting right in front of you?

Phyllis: That’s crazy. I didn’T. Sorry, it’s been a long day.

Sally: Okay. You have my attention.

Phyllis: I’d rather show you.

Victoria: I should have never confided in you. What was I thinking? I don’t know why I never learn.

Billy: Hold on. I think you misunderstood what i was trying to say or I said it wrong. Vick, please.

[ Sighs ] Look, when you are in pain, I am in pain. And I’m watching you open your heart to a guy that is in a really tough place. And you’re gonna have to watch him succumb to this disease. And I didn’t understand why you would want to do that. But I get it. You’re in love with him. This is my longwinded way of saying that I feel terrible that you have to go through that.

Victoria: I know what you’re thinking right now. You’re thinking I… should get out of this while I can.

Billy: No. I’m thinking the opposite of that. Victoria: You sound like you really mean that.

Billy: I think you’re exactly what ashland needs right now. I think you need each other. There are times, I wonder…

Ashland: Well, that’s quite the endorsement, [Sighs] Considering the source.

Billy: I meant every word i said.

Ashland: I believe you did.

Billy: After talking with victoria, it’s very clear that you two are committed to each other. And she’s not gonna listen to me if I try to get her to bail either way.

Ashland: It’s a good point.

Billy: Look, if I haven’t been very clear, I think your situation sucks. And I’m really sorry that you’re going through it.

Ashland: Well, that’s very kind of you. But do you feel bad enough to keep reports of my predicament off your media platform? Uh, not for myself. For harrison’s sake. Even someone that young can get wind of things on the internet.

Billy: [ Inhales deeply ] No salacious stories. No stories of any kind, not from me. You have my word.

Ashland: I appreciate that.

Victoria: We both do. Thank you for being such a good listener.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: What? Why are you looking at me like that?

Ashland: Uh, what did you need to say to your ex that turned him into such a good listener?

Summer: You know, at least 10 times a day, some awesome, unbelievable thing will happen, and my first thought is, “kyle’s gonna flip. I can’t wait to tell him.” And then I remember…

Nikki: I know the feeling.

Summer: Kyle was my best friend.

[ Sighs ] You know, we even worked in the same building, and… when you’re around someone 24/7…

Nikki: I know. When they’re gone, it leaves a hole in your life.

Summer: We were a team, and it just feels so unnatural to be so disconnected from him.

Nikki: Well, you two shared a long history. Even when your lives took you to different places, you always managed to find a way to get back together. Darling, what you had with kyle is very rare and special. I would be surprised to hear that you didn’t feel the sense of loss that you’re describing.

Summer: [ Sighs ] I just wanted to be with kyle for so long that [Sighs] It really hurts to imagine a future

[ Sighs ] But I got to let go of that feeling. I mean, I have to. My life is in italy now.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] We have an employee who’s still learning the system. And, um, they may have erroneously charged your room with something, so I just… if you could do me a favor and just, you know, take a look at this, tell me what’s not yours.

Sally: How many stars does this hotel have? ‘Cause it might be a few too many.

Phyllis: Uh, well, if, uh, one of those charges is not yours, I’ll make it right. That’s the mark of a five-star hotel.

Sally: Okay, well, here is a charge right at the top here — minibar, $36. I don’t even have a minibar in my room. You gave me a fridge instead. Remember?

Phyllis: Oh, my apologies. I’ll make that right. Just mark off whatever isn’t yours, and I’ll take care of it.

Tara: Ashland is insisting that he talks to harrison alone, breaks the news to him without anyone else there.

Kyle: Hmm. So, the exact opposite of what sharon advised.

Tara: I know. I told him that, and he wasn’t interested. The man is so self-centered.

Kyle: Hmm.

Tara: But I [Sighs] — I suppose I would be, too, in his shoes. Guess I should be a little bit more understanding.

Kyle: Hmm. So, where did you and ashland leave things?

Tara: Oh, we’re gonna talk again. Soon, probably.

Kyle: After the two of you have had a chance to cool off a little bit.

Tara: Don’t worry, kyle. Everything is fine. I mean, ashland and I will — will work it out. Somehow. [ Chuckles ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ] I told billy what I’m feeling.

[ Sighs ] I just feel a little overwhelmed from time to time. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. And also I admitted to him that… I’m in love with you. I realize this is going very quickly, but this is not a normal circumstance. We don’t really have any time to waste. I need what you bring to my life. I’ll take what I can get. I love you, ashland. And don’t tell me not to feel that way. Don’t even try.

Ashland: I-I guess I need to find a way to stay alive.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Do you mean that —

Ashland: Yeah, I-I-I-I-I — I’ll start treatment. Then, maybe I’ll get lucky and it’ll actually work. I sure as hell hope so.

Ashland: I have a minor anxiety attack and you start to question if the merger was a mistake. I didn’t know you were an alarmist.

Victoria: I’m not an alarmist. I just want to make sure that we’re doing everything in your best interest.

Ashland: This merger is the most exciting thing that I have done in my career. I do not have one single regret.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Look, panic attacks don’t happen for no reason. Didn’t you just admit that these attacks are — are because you’re — you’re giving up things that are very important to you?

Ashland: I wasn’t talking about my business. And look at how everything’s changed — my marriage, the child that I thought was my flesh and blood, this diagnosis that is gonna steal my life away and the legacy that I was hoping to create by passing my business along to my son and teaching him how to run it. This is the burden that I wake up to every morning, and you are the one thing that keeps it all from getting so much worse.

Victoria: I’m glad that I’m helping. I just wish that it was enough to keep these attacks from happening. But I believe that there’s a way that you can stop them.

Billy: I’m really sorry to hear that. Yeah, I’m available tomorrow. You just let me know. You as well. Thank you.

[ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Problem?

Billy: My meeting just canceled on me.

Phyllis: Mm. Don’t you hate it when that happens?

Billy: No one cancels on you.

Phyllis: No, no one ever. If you want to avoid last-minute appointment cancelations, why don’t you bring lily? No one would cancel on her.

Billy: Oh, you’re right. No one cancels on lily. Unfortunately, she can’t be here. She took a last-minute trip to go see mattie. So my meeting’s canceled. I’m here all alone. Maybe we should connect and figure out what’s going on with tara.

Phyllis: So your theory that sally and tara are working together? From what I’ve seen, you are 1,000% correct.

Kyle: What do you think about taking harrison to a pool party for kids at the grand phoenix this weekend?

Tara: That does sound like fun. But maybe we could find some alternatives.

Kyle: Well, if you’re worried about lifeguards or supervision —

Tara: It’s phyllis. I don’t think she likes me very much.

Kyle: Oh, I don’t think you need to worry about that. She feels the same way about half the people in this town.

Tara: I wasn’t a big fan of the way she just made herself welcome at our table yesterday.

Kyle: Yeah, you’ll have to learn how to take her with a grain of salt.

Tara: I hate saying anything ’cause I know she was almost your mother-in-law, but…

Kyle: What?

Tara: I think she feels like I’m somehow responsible for summer taking that job in italy.

Kyle: Well, you are responsible.

Sharon: Ooh. Darn it.

Moses: You can keep the heat. I mean, I’ll take a cold, crisp winter day anytime.

Faith: No offense, but that’s a little bonkers. Who likes ice and snow?

Sharon: Hey, you twO. You want something to drink?

Moses: Oh, yeah, I’ll take a lemonade. Thanks.

Faith: I still can’t believe that tigirlily was right here in this coffee house.

Moses: Yeah, it was pretty dope, right?

Faith: I can’t wait to see them perform at the new hope charity concert. What do you think, mom?

Sharon: Yeah, that sounds great. Maybe adam will be back from minnesota by then.

Faith: You mean rey?

Sharon: Yeah. That’s what I said.

Faith: No, you said adam.

Sharon: Oh, well, obviously, I meant rey. I’m just really anxious for him to come home. You know, I have too much on my mind today. Tiffany called and said she’s gonna be a little bit late for her shift. You know, would you mind taking over here for a little while? I think you’re up for it now, aren’t you?

Faith: What if someone comes in with a super-complicated order? Espresso macchiato with steamed soy milk and lemon zest or something.

Sharon: You’ll be fine. And, you know, you won’t be here that long by yourself.

Faith: Wait, where are you going?

Sharon: Errands.

Chelsea: Anita’s doing well.

Adam: That’s good.

Chelsea: Yeah, she’s gonna need a lot more physical therapy, though. For such a minor surgery, she’s facing a lengthy recovery.

Adam: Hmm. Well, I’m sure that’s frustrating for her.

Chelsea: Yeah. But being able to see connor so much, it puts her in a good mood.

Adam: I know how she feels. How’s he doing?

Chelsea: He’s really good. You know, anita takes any opportunity she can to tell people all about her brilliant grandson. She’s so proud of him, and connor, of course, loves the attention.

Adam: I’m glad.

Chelsea: I don’t think i would’ve been able to do this without him, so thank you for letting me bring him along with me and putting your foot down with victor. I know you didn’t have to do that, and it means a lot to me. I’ll forever be grateful.

Adam: That is all great to hear. That is the reason that I wanted connor to go on this trip with you in the first place. But, chelsea, it’s time to start talking about when to bring him home. We’re eating and drinking foods and beverages

Adam: He has lacrosse camp starting in a few days, and it wouldn’t be fair to upend his entire summer schedule for this.

Chelsea: We have plans, adam, things we want to do when grandma has her appointments. There’s this — this “evolution of the video game” exhibit at the museum and new baby snow monkeys at the zoo.

Adam: I assumed you would be doing all sorts of fun stuff, and I don’t want to rob you of your time with him, so when anita is better and you are able to come back, we can make up for it by giving you as much time with connor as you want, here in genoa city. All we’re doing is we’re just pushing the activities a little further down the road. That is all.

Chelsea: But [Sighs] How will he get home?

Adam: Connor can go with rey. As I understand, he’s supposed to come back in a day or two. That’ll be simple. He can drive our son home.

Chelsea: Adam, let him stay a little while longer, please.

Adam: I know your time with connor means a lot to you, and I’m aware that it means a lot to him, too. That’s why I thought it was important for you to go on this trip together, so that he could be reassured that you’re healthy. But he has seen that now.

Chelsea: Yeah, he knows I’m okay.

Adam: You can video chat. And it won’t be long until you can see him again. That is what’s important.

Chelsea: You’re right.

Kyle: That didn’t come out the way I wanted it to.

Tara: I should hope not.

Kyle: Yeah, well, what i meant was I certainly don’t blame you for summer leaving. Harrison is my kid and this is my life now, and I wouldn’t change that for anything. But it still put a burden on summer, and that’s nobody’s fault. Just is how it is. That’s why summer chose to leave. Apparently it was too much for her to handle.

Tara: “Apparently”?

Kyle: There’s part of me that wants to think there was more to it. I mean, she kept saying she was fine with the way things were, that she understood, so when she did that 180, it threw me. But…I guess it wasn’t as huge of a change in her attitude as i told myself. Signs were all there. I just didn’t want to see them. In a way, leaving me was… it was honest. Incredibly so. She broke my heart in ways that I couldn’t have dreamed of. But she felt the way she did and she did what she had to do.

Tara: Sorry.

Kyle: No. It’s not your fault.

Tara: I didn’t mean for you to open up about this. It’s your business. It’s not your job to make me feel better about all of this.

Kyle: Actually, it is my job to make this okay for all of us, including harrison. Look, I accept that responsibility, which is why i was wondering…

Tara: Yes, kyle?

Kyle: How would you feel if i asked sharon rosales to come by? I can call her and see if she has any free time.

Tara: Oh, I’ve — I met her at the coffee house. But why would you suggest that?

Kyle: Well, in addition to running crimson lights, she’s a therapist who has worked with kids and she might have good ideas on how to talk to harrison about locke’s illness.

Tara: I see.

Kyle: Okay, I know you have strong feelings about keeping ashland away from harrison after what happened at the park, but i want to make sure we go and do things the right way.

Tara: You amaze me. You never stop thinking about how we can make things better for our son.

Kyle: Any father would do the same.

Tara: Oh, you’re not just any father. You really are the best.

Victoria: All you have to do is just take one simple step.

Ashland: I know where this conversation is going because we have been here before. You want me to get treatment for the cancer.

Victoria: Yes, I do, because controlling your health will help alleviate the stress that you’re feeling. Yes, you can do yoga, you can do all the breathing, and that will help, but I’m talking about the real cause of it. You’re struggling right now because you feel like you’re out of control.

Ashland: I don’t want to keep having this circular conversation over and over again. If you were any other person on this earth, you wouldn’t dare keep revisiting this same thing day after day. I’ve told you again and again, I do not want treatment.

Victoria: And I can’t let it go.E I’M…[Sighs] This thing that’s happening between us is just getting so much stronger, deeper. I know I’m being so selfish, but I just want this to last as long as possible.

Ashland: As do I. But I do not want to experience some god-awful side effects just so I can add an extra half-hour to my life.

Victoria: And I don’t want that for you. But I keep thinking about your reasoning. You admit that you’re having these powerful anxiety attacks that can knock you to the ground. Do you know that’s a hell of a thing to hear from the toughest man that I’ve met in my life? You are a control freak.

Ashland: I beg your pardon?

Victoria: In the best possible way.

Ashland: Ah.

Victoria: You’re upfront about your power position and you don’t let anyone doubt you. It’s who you are. It’s how you’ve defined yourself. It’s how you’ve always defined yourself. Until now. Chloe: Yeah. For now. So, um, chelsea left me a message yesterday. She told me that she had a great visit with connor, and that never would’ve happened if you hadn’t agreed to it, so good move.

Adam: Connor’s actually going to be coming home in a couple days.

Chloe: Wait, already? I mean, just when chelsea is getting her relationship back with her son and finally in a good place, you’re already pulling the plug?

Adam: I’m just trying to make sure everyone gets what they need. Not that I owe you an explanation. So why don’t we just focus on work?

Chloe: That’s probably for the best.

Adam: When you check out your new office, you’ll see that I’ve set you up with everything you need to dive right in. I’m giving you free reign to develop the fashion platform, including hiring your own team, because I trust your fashion instincts and because I have none of my own.

Chloe: So when chelsea does come back and when she’s ready to live her free life, you are still willing to let her be onboard.

Adam: I have no reason to go back on my word. I think it would be good for chelsea.

Chloe: You do? So you’re not setting chelsea up the same way you did with connor — make a promise, then break it?

Adam: That’s not going to happen.

Chloe: Okay. Got to wonder. No one plays mind games like you do, and maybe this [Chuckles] Was just all an act going way back to when you first offered me the job. Give me what I want, make me happy, keep me quiet. And this new leaf of yours is just one big act.

Faith: Making the perfect cup of coffee is a science. I figure once I excel at the simple stuff, the classics, then I can branch out, spice things up. I was thinking about trying a cold brew latte next.

Moses: No.

Faith: What’s wrong?

Moses: Please don’t hate me, but I can’t drink another ounce of your experiments. My hands are jittery, my life is flashing before my eyes. Just please no more caffeine.

Faith: I will never excel as a master barista with that lack of support. Speaking of careers, what’s going on with your future plans?

Moses: Well, actually, I was talking with devon, and a career in music might be worth checking out.

Faith: What’s nate got to say about that?

Moses: Not much. I mean, we haven’t really had time to talk about it. But what I can say is I’m really excited for going backstage at the new hope concert, see how everything comes together. Medicine is great, intellectually, but music —

Faith: Dr. Hastings! What can I get for you?

Nate: Uh, let me get just an espresso. Hey, bud. Listen, I know we haven’t had a chance to talk about things yet. But before we do, I want you to think long and hard about what you really want. Ask yourself if you really want to go into medicine. And consider what you’d be giving up if you don’T.

Faith: Either way, I think we can all agree on one thing. Moses should do the thing that makes him the happiest, right?

Nate: Of course.

Phyllis: So you were definitely right about tara and sally. I saw them commiserating right here. They…

[ Sighs ] They drove my daughter out of town.

Billy: You’re sure about that.

Phyllis: Well, pretty sure about that. I mean, they both benefited. Sally has her job at jcv. The other one has her ex-fiancé.

Billy: Not exactly sure tara’s capable of pulling all that off.

Phyllis: Oh, well, she’s relying on harrison to do it for her. Harrison is an abbott that jack and kyle didn’t even know about until now.

Billy: Because tara kept the truth from kyle.

Phyllis: Exactly. Of course, they can’t see that. All they see is a little boy who needs their love. I mean, hell, it was hard for me to accept that those two manipulated my daughter so, but they did. Tara and sally, they’re in this together, for sure. I mean, tara’s getting close to the abbotts because she doesn’t want to give up her gilded lifestyle.

Billy: Which makes it open season on poor, vulnerable kyle. And if you’re tara, hooking up with your son’s biological father sure does tick a lot of boxes, doesn’t it?

Phyllis: You know, there’s one other thing I don’t understand. Summer recommended sally for her job at jcv.

Billy: You kidding me? Why?

Phyllis: I don’t know. I mean, honestly, it was soul-crushing for me to hear that. But she did. I mean, she hates sally.

Billy: And you think summer’s hand was forced somehow?

Phyllis: I don’t know. We just need to find out why she was manipulated. And we need to expose it, and then my daughter will come home.

Chloe: You know, I knew it. I knew it was too good to be true, and you just proved it. You have not changed one damn bit. Well, you know what? I’m not intimidated. I’m not going anywhere because we had a contract. In fact, I had michael look it over to make sure it was legit.

Adam: Oh, that’s a great idea. I assume he said it was.

Chloe: Yes, he did.

Adam: Good to know. There’s the door. Oh, and take that with you.

Chloe: What’s this? A restraining order? Because that’s what it’s gonna take to keep me away from here.

Adam: That’ll be the key to your new office. You’re going to need it.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] Wait, you — what? Wh–

Adam: Look, I know that you were pushing my buttons, trying to get a reaction out of me. Was that the one that you wanted, chloe?

Chloe: [ Sighs ] You know, your pretend anger is very convincing.

Adam: Well, we needed to get that out of the way if we’re gonna work together.

Chloe: And we are.

Adam: And, yes, we do have a valid contract and I’m gonna hold you to it. And, yes, I want you to bring chelsea in on the project when the time is right.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] You are a real piece of work.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Look, I know that you’ll never trust me fully, but I do accept the challenge that you will come around eventually, because if you can one day see me in a new light, anyone can.

Chloe: Well, I better get going. I have work to get done. But in the meantime, don’t hold your breath.

Phyllis: Are you saying that my daughter wouldn’t want to come back into town? I mean, she loves genoa city. She loves her family. I inspire her.

Billy: Look, this is just a reminder that whatever dirty tricks sally and tara have played, summer did get her dream job. She is a smart, talented person in the fashion capital of the world. What other ambitious person wouldn’t want to be in her shoes?

Phyllis: I mean, well, that’s true. But, I mean, she would sacrifice the love of her life?

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: What? Please tell me.

Billy: Look, I am fond of both kyle and summer, no matter what you think about me. But the love of her life? That’s a little wishful thinking with all the ups and downs that they’ve had.

Phyllis: So you think they would have broken up anyway?

Billy: Before summer left, i encouraged kyle to take one more shot to get her to stay, and she didn’T. She left and she has left before. So all I’m saying is maybe sally and tara hastened the demise of their relationship.

Phyllis: I know why people cancel their meetings with you, ’cause you’re a bum-out. I’m not gonna accept your pessimistic attitude about my daughter’s love life or about whether she wants to come home or not.

Billy: Well, that’s because you’re her mother.

Phyllis: No, it’s because she was manipulated into leaving town is why. My daughter will want to come back to reclaim what is rightfully hers. She is her mother’s daughter.

[ Sighs ] Sally and tara did this. They pushed my daughter out of town. And we must expose this. I cannot — i will not let this stand.

Kyle: Please, sharon, have a seat. So I assume you’ve seen the video of ashland and harrison at the park.

Sharon: I have.

Kyle: It was an isolated incident, a rare occurrence of everything going wrong that could’ve gone wrong. But it was awful for harrison seeing the man he calls father like that, and so tara and i think it’s important that we have a solid plan.

Sharon: Okay, um, well, I’m not sure what you mean exactly. What kind of plan?

Kyle: Like what amount of access for ashland is right given the situation and how do we talk to harrison about locke’s illness.

Tara: We just want to do the best thing for our son, to protect him.

Sharon: Well, I worry about the impulse to eliminate ashland from the conversation about his own disease, and it could send a message to harrison that illness and death are unnatural or something to be hidden. And you wouldn’t want harrison to grow up feeling afraid of people who have impairments or deal with certain challenges. And if you do limit their contact, harrison will feel abandoned by his dad, and then he’ll probably blame himself and wonder what he did wrong. I think what harrison needs to know right now, above everything else, is that his father loves him, despite everything.

Kyle: What do you think is the best course of action?

Sharon: I think that tara and ashland need to talk to harrison together, and I would be loving and gentle, but, above all, be truthful.

Kyle: That makes so much sense. It’s exactly what we needed to hear. Advil dual action fights pain 2 ways.

Kyle: What’d you think?

Tara: Sharon’s very knowledgeable. And it was so generous of her to share her thoughts and opinions with us, but for me, it isn’t just about that monday in the park. Ashland isn’t just a man who gets what he wants, he smashes anyone who tries to get in his way. And if I try to talk to him about this, that is the side that’s gonna emerge. And he’s already furious with me about trying to get sole custody of harrison.

Kyle: I think on some level, ashland knows he overreacted in the park, and he may even understand why you reacted the way you did. Look, I’m not saying the conversation will be easy, but if I’m right about ashland, it may not be that hard. And maybe it will lead to a compromise that helps harrison. That is what this is all about, right?

Tara: I just hate living my life under a microscope.

Kyle: No, no one is judging you, tara.

Tara: Oh, no? Ash resents me for trying to protect our little boy. Phyllis has crazy ideas about my motives and is trying to get me to admit to something. And now I’m worried that you and jack are going to judge me, too. All I have ever wanted is to do what’s best for our son.

Kyle: My father and I will always be in your corner, no matter what. And when it comes to phyllis, you let me handle her. But this stalemate with locke has to end, for harrison’s sake, and I know deep down you agree.

Victoria: Do you like the tea?

Ashland: Well, it smells like fresh-cut lawn, but let me guess, it’s good for me.

Victoria: I just — I thought that maybe you needed something restorative after your episode.

[ Sighs ] Is it helping?

Ashland: Uh, it wasn’t necessary, but I truly appreciate it. Just being around you, I feel exponentially better.

Victoria: Have you given any more thought to what I said?

Ashland: Of course I have.

Victoria: But you’re not changing your mind, are you? Because it’s too hard for the great and powerful ashland locke to admit that I’m right and he is wrong. I know what I said before was a little bit manipulative, but I’m running out of ways to make you see that you’ve made your decision in haste. I think a lot has changed since you declared that you’re not interested in seeking treatment. We’ve merged our companies.

Ashland: We have. And we became us.

Victoria: You are such a force. You still have so much to give, and I want to get as much as i can.

Ashland: I’d forgotten how greedy you are.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Yes, there is something in it for me, but there is so much in it for you, too, and I promise you, any extra time you get will be a gift. I will personally see to it.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ] It’s tara. I should probably get this. I’m so sorry.

Victoria: No, it’s fine. Of course.

Tara: Hello, ashland.

Ashland: What’s this about?

Tara: Harrison. I’d like to meet. We have a lot to discuss.

Sharon: Rey, hi. I just — I just needed to hear your voice. I do hope you’ll be coming home soon. Call me when you’re free. Love you.

Adam: Sharon.

Tara: I think you have put a lot of thought into this.

Kyle: I only want to help.

Tara: But I should probably do this part on my own.

Tara: You’re very sweet, but I can handle him.

Kyle: Okay. I’ll give you your space. It’s probably good that harrison’s still at his play date. But I wonder…

Tara: What I’ll say about custody? Guess that depends on what ash is like when he gets here.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Geez, I say “hello,” and I’m suddenly stalking you?

Sharon: No, I-I didn’t mean that. I really apologize. I’ve just been really jumpy the last few days, and then you just came out of nowhere.

Adam: Well, it is a public park in broad daylight. You never know what’s lurking around the corner. It could be crying babies or suspicious looking butterflies. So what has you all spooked?

Sharon: Um, our conversation the other night. You know, you completely turned that around and made it about us.

Adam: I wasn’t aware that i did that. We were talking about people’s perception of me. I mean, billy had just accused me of putting on a performance to try to get you back. I mean, the conversation just flowed from that.

Sharon: Well, but then before I knew it, we were talking about which one I liked better — good adam or bad adam. And I don’t know what that had to do with anything. And just so you know, I don’t feel pull towards either side of you. Right now what I feel pulled toward is rey, who is going to be coming home soon after being out of town looking after your ex of all people. So don’t try to rope me in to talking about our history. It’s in the past.

Nate: Hey.

Victoria: Hey.

[ Sighs ] I’m so glad you could make it.

Nate: I’ve got to admit, i was surprised to get your call, but always happy to make time for you. Everything okay?

Victoria: With me, yes. I’m great. I just wanted to pick your brain on behalf of a friend.

Nate: Okay, I’ll help if i can.

Victoria: Look, I know it’s not your specialty, but I have always respected your abilities so much. My friend has been diagnosed with small cell lung carcinoma.

Nate: I’m sorry to hear that.

Victoria: Until now, he’s been resistant to treatment, but I was hoping that maybe I could learn a few things to give him a reason to consider some of the options.

Nate: I read the news and i watch tv. I have a pretty good sense of who you’re talking about.

Victoria: No names.

Nate: Understood. I should tell you I recently had a similar conversation with billy. He had questions about a hypothetical friend’s health. Shortly after, those articles from chanccomm went online.

Victoria: Did he mention any names?

Nate: No, he kept it anonymous. Didn’t reveal many details, but it’s clear to me you’re talking about the same person.

Victoria: I’m not surprised that billy asked you about this, but honestly, I don’t want to get into why he’s curious. I’m only interested in what you have to tell me.

Faith: What do you think, mom?

Sharon: Good work.

Faith: Is everything okay?

Sharon: Yeah, sure.

Faith: You seemed a little off before you left.

Sharon: Oh, I was just thinking about rey and worried. He can’t get home soon enough as far as I’m concerned.

Victoria: My eyes are wide open. I’m aware of conventional treatments — radiation, chemotherapy. I know that this is realistically not a conversation about a cure, it’s about buying time. And making the most of that time.

Nate: I’m glad you have a clear-eyed view on this. With this type of cancer, you’re talking small percentages, low probability of success, small amounts of time.

Victoria: I understand that, but there must be scientists out there somewhere trying to combat this. New drugs, different approaches. I want to hear about clinical trials and promising experimental treatments on the horizon. Anything like that. Nothing’s off the table.

Nate: Yeah, these are great questions. And as you’ve said, oncology is not my specialty, but I’ll be more than happy to confer with colleagues and see what’s out there.

Victoria: Thank you. That’s wonderful of you. Thank you.

Nate: Just doing my job.

Victoria: You’re being modest. I know that you have a lot on your plate right now, but I have to give my friend something, anything, present him with an option that maybe he hasn’t heard of before. That might help him make a decision.

Victor: Hey, sutton. Have you had a chance to review my proposal?

Sutton: Well, I have been wondering whether or not you can be trusted.

Victor: This is a straightforward deal — quid pro quo, alright? I give you
amanda’s letter from her father, the content of which could lead to your
downfall.

Sutton: And in return?

Victor: In return, you do me a favor one day without fail. The clock is
ticking.

[ Cellphone vibrates ]

Adam: Talking to anyone interesting?

Victor: Uh, no, just talked to an old friend.

Adam: I wanted to brainstorm some ideas about newman media’s marketing
strategy, if you have time.

Victor: Would you mind if we did that another day? I just have too many
things on my mind right now, okay?

Nikki: Everything alright?

Adam: [ Sighs ] He, um — he seems preoccupied. You have any idea what’s
going on?

Nikki: No, I don’T. Have you heard from chelsea?

Adam: Yeah, I got an update from her a little while ago. Anita is on the mend
— slowly.

Nikki: I suppose the better question is, how is connor?

Adam: He’s happy to be having all this time alone with his mother. He’s a
little curious why rey is tagging along, but I told him, since I couldn’t be
there, I was sending somebody I trusted.

Nikki: Not far from the truth.

Adam: Yeah. I’m actually glad rey is there. It’s probably safer for everyone.

Nikki: My thoughts exactly.

Adam: You know, you don’t have to do this whole nice conversation thing every
time we run into each other. I know what you think of me.

Nikki: I might surprise you.

Devon: Hey, why don’t you try and sit down?

Amanda: No, I can’T.

Devon: Will you do it for me at least? ‘Cause you’ve said yourself, these
things take time.

Amanda: For you.

Devon: Thanks.

Amanda: I just… victor should’ve met with sutton by now. I need an update.
I need something. How can you be so calm?

Devon: Because I know victor newman, and I know if he says he’s gonna do
something, he’s gonna do it. Just have to be patient.

Amanda: No, I can’T. I can’t wait any longer, okay? I just — I need
something. I need to — I need to figure out what is happening right now. I —

[ Knock on door ]

Imani: We’ve got a problem.

Abby: I just got a text from mariah.

Tessa: She texted — mariah.

Sharon: I just got a text from her, also.

Abby: We should compare the messages that she sent us.

Sharon: Yeah, maybe we can figure out what’s going on. (Vo) imagine a visibly
healthier pet in 28 days.

Abby: Mariah’s text to me says, “I was feeling overwhelmed with everyone’s
constant concern about my health.”

Tessa: Okay, her text to me says, “extending my exploratory business trip.
Just needed a break.”

Sharon: Well, her message to me says, “I had to get away from feeling
smothered. I’m sorry for keeping everyone guessing.”

Abby: Okay, well, at least the lines of communication are open and she’s
being honest. That’s good.

Tessa: Yeah, and she says that she just needs space. “Love, mariah.”

Abby: Well, there’s more to the message that she sent me. She says that she
promises that she’ll be back before our next doctor’s appointment, that she’s
doing fine and she’s taking good care of herself and the baby. And she said,
“your child isn’t giving me too much grief yet.”

[ Laughs ]

Sharon: Well, that’s a relief.

Abby: I feel so bad that she felt so suffocated that she felt like she had to
leave town. When she comes back, that can’t happen again.

Tessa: Yeah, absolutely.

Sharon: 100%.

Nikki: Now that you’re living on the property, little honesty can’t hurt.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Are you sure about that?

Nikki: You and I have a difficult history.

Adam: Well, if we’re gonna be honest, uh, let’s not mince words. We haven’t
liked each other very much. Actually, at all.

Nikki: That’s accurate. But the way you have been trying to improve has not
gone unnoticed.

Adam: I’m just trying to do the right thing.

Nikki: Well, my first instinct was to keep a very close eye on you, just in
case.

Adam: What, just in case it was all an act?

Nikki: Wouldn’t be the first time. But apparently, I was wrong about you.

Adam: It takes a lot to admit that.

Nikki: Your desire to improve yourself seems sincere, and i know how
difficult it is to change. Trust me. I respect the effort you’re making.

Adam: I’m just trying every day to be a better man, a loving father,
dedicated son. But a lot of this is uncharted territory for me. Sometimes I wish
that I had a road map.

Nikki: Well, you have an entire family invested in your success. If you
should happen to get lost, there will always be somebody there to put you back
on the right path.

Adam: Well, that is very good to know.

Nikki: I am rooting for you.

Adam: Thank you, nikki. That means a lot.

Nikki: But know this — if you ever start to backslide or you put any one of
us in danger, you will go right back to being enemy number one.

Adam: I learned a long time ago to never underestimate you.

Nikki: Good. Keep it that way.

Amanda: Slow down, okay? Just tell me what the problem is.

Imani: I dropped by mom’s room before I came over here, and I knocked
repeatedly. There was no response. She’s gone.

Amanda: Okay, imani, it’s not like she disappeared.

Devon: I’m sure she’s fine.

Imani: Well, I looked everywhere I could think of, i called her, texted her a
dozen times. No response.

Devon: Why would she leave after agreeing to let amanda represent her?

Imani: [ Sighs ] Maybe that was just her way of getting out on bail, dropping
out of sight. I spoke to someone at the hotel security, the woman at the front
desk — no one can remember seeing her coming or going all day.

Amanda: Okay, that’s odd, but it is explainable. Just because no one has seen
her at the hotel, it doesn’t mean that she’s left genoa city. She could have
went on a really long walk, and that is hardly a bail violation. But don’t
worry, we will look into this.

Devon: Well, I’ll get out of your hair and let you guys figure it out. I’m
just a call away.

Amanda: Thank you.

Devon: Of course.

Amanda: Naya really picked the worst time to mia. I was just waiting to hear
back from victor newman about his conversation with sutton.

[ Sighs ] Well, that’s gonna have to wait because we can’t get an acquittal
without a defendant.

Imani: Mm-hmm. So how do you propose we track down mom?

Amanda: First step, we get into naya’s room.

Imani: I just told you, she’s not there, which means we won’t be able to get
inside.

Amanda: Well, the first thing that I learned when I realized that I need to
make my own way in this world — don’t let little things get in your way.

Adam: Am I too late? Are you closed?

Sharon: Well, I never turn away someone in need of a good cup of coffee. You

[ Clears throat ] Maybe this is none of my business, but how are connor and
chelsea doing?

Adam: It is definitely your business, since you’re the one that convinced me
to let chelsea take him to minnesota in the first place. Not to mention…

Sharon: Rey being drafted into going along to make sure everything goes
according to plan.

Adam: Mm-hmm. And it is. So far. At least that’s what I’ve heard from chelsea
and connor. Does rey agree?

Sharon: Well, I have talked to him since he left, but he never really says
that much about his work.

Adam: Of course.

Sharon: You know, I really hope that you won’t end up regretting taking my
advice, letting connor go be with his mom.

Adam: Well, I had to work hard to sell victor on the idea.

Sharon: Can’t imagine that negotiation.

Adam: Mm. He wasn’t entirely wrong about the risks. There still is a chance
that all of us is gonna become a problem down the road.

Sharon: In what way?

Adam: What if chelsea wants to live near anita? Or anywhere else, for that
matter? Then she’s gonna push to have connor live with her permanently.

Sharon: What would you do if that happened?

Adam: I want my son to be with me, period. I should be his custodial parent.
That is what’s best for him.

Sharon: Even if chelsea does get a clean bill of health.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Sharon: Wait, is there more to this? Hey, I don’t want to push, but you know
that we can talk about anything. You know that.

Adam: [ Sighs ] There — there’s a lot that you don’t know about all this.

Victor: Hi, my baby.

Nikki: Hey. If you’re looking for adam, he’s gone.

Victor: Well, just as well. I have a lot of things to deal with.

Nikki: Oh, yeah?

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: What is going on in that brilliant mind of yours? You’ve been
distracted ever since you got home.

Victor: Yeah. Oh, by the way, we’re leaving for italy tomorrow.

Nikki: I know. I’m counting the hours.

Victor: Well, then, as time is ticking away, I still have a lot things to do
before we leave.

Nikki: Well, I’m glad that congratulating victoria was on that list. I saw
the flowers you sent. They’re beautiful.

Victor: Oh, that. Yeah. Well, you know, actually, you deserve that bouquet of
flowers. I mean, you reminded me that i was not at my best when it came to that
merger. I should’ve congratulated her because she pulled off quite a coup.

Nikki: Well, that’s very magnanimous of you. Of course…

Victor: What? What did I do wrong?

Nikki: Well, I was just gonna say that it would be an even more magnanimous
gesture if you were to congratulate her in person. Maybe you can put that on
your pre-flight to-do list.

Victor: Well, you mean what I did wasn’t good enough?

Nikki: I’m just keeping you honest, darling.

Victor: No one dose it better, you know.

Imani: When you said you don’t let the little things get in your way, I — I
thought you were going to…

Amanda: Pick the lock?

Imani: [ Sighs ] Well, the important thing is you were able to get security
to open up her door.

Amanda: I just don’t know why naya’s suite was emptied out. Why would an
innocent woman pack her bags and skip bail?

Imani: Easier than telling her well-meaning daughters no. She told us how she
wanted her defense structured.

Amanda: Yeah, and we agreed to her terms. We said that we would not implicate
sutton to save her.

Imani: We said that, but either she didn’t trust us from the beginning, or
she figured out we were going after sutton anyway. Based on the last
conversation i had with mom, it didn’t seem like she knew anything about that.

[ Sighs ]

Amanda: There’s another possibility.

[ Knock on door ] Sutton.

Sutton: Something’s happened to naya. I haven’t been able to find her.

Imani: We already know. We checked her suite. She’s disappeared.

Amanda: And there’s no good explanation that we can think of. Unless you’re
the one who told her to run. Feeling stressed in your skin?

Abby: I am so glad that mariah reached out. I feel like I can finally
breathe.

Tessa: Okay, there’s just one thing I need to say.

Abby: No, not until I clear the air.

Tessa: No, I’ll go first.

Abby: No, you have to hear this first.

Tessa: But after what I say, you might not want to say anything.

Abby: I’m sorry.

Tessa: I’ve just been so tightly wound up.

Abby: Me too.

Tessa: The tension between us is all my fault.

Abby: No, no, it was totally my fault.

Tessa: Let’s not argue about why we’re arguing.

Abby: You’re right. Forgiven?

Tessa: Forgotten. I mean, it never should have happened in the first place.

Abby: I’m so sorry that i snapped at you. Just all this uncertainty with
mariah, it really got to me.

Tessa: Me too. But at least it’s over.

Abby: And mariah’s fine.

Tessa: [ Sighs ] I’m just so glad that it’s not what I was afraid of, that
some lowlife from my past came to put mariah in jeopardy.

Abby: Well, it’s just crazy how your mind can fill in all of the blanks when
you don’t know the full story. Even though our fears were implausible, they felt
real.

Tessa: Just I’m the person who knows mariah the best.

[ Sighs ] I just — I don’t know, I figured that the mood swings were from
the pregnancy, but it was a reaction to me.

Abby: And me.

Tessa: Lesson learned.

Abby: We have to do better.

Tessa: And we will.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Sutton: If I knew where naya was, you think I’d be coming to you for help?

Imani: Is that why you came here?

Sutton: Not everything I do has a sinister motive. You used to know that,
imani.

Amanda: Yeah, you’re only up to something 90% of the time. So coming here,
acting worried, like you need our assistance, that’s exactly what you would do
if you were behind naya’s disappearance.

Sutton: What have I done to deserve this suspicion?

Amanda: Besides arranging my father’s murder?

Imani: Amanda, not now, please.

Sutton: What good does this nonsense do us? I thought we were past that.

Amanda: Oh, we were never past it, and you know it. It just went unsaid
because we both had an agenda that we were keeping close to the vest. Well, now
I think that it’s time that we stop pretending. So I want you to know — I’m
gonna prove that you are guilty of my father’s murder, not naya. And after
everything that you did today, I’m gonna make sure that you pay for it. So now,
you can tell me, where is my mother?

Sutton: I already told you, i don’t know. And we have to work together to
find her.

Amanda: No, you better worry about your damn self.

Sutton: [ Chuckles ] Is that a threat against me?

Amanda: I will find my mother. I will handle this the way that I have done
everything my entire life — alone. Now, you took my sister from me. You
deprived me of my father, and I will be damned if you take my mother from me,
too. So you better get the hell out of here. Okay, listen to me right now, we
need to focus.

Sharon: Chelsea faked her breakdown?

Adam: To a degree. She wasn’t well. I mean, no one who did what she did to
rey could be. But she was convinced that I had betrayed her, and her mind took
her to some very dark places.

Sharon: This is shocking.

Adam: I know.

Sharon: And dr. Hedges was involved? He has a good reputation. How could he
be in the middle of this scheme?

Adam: Money. Money talks. And I’m sure that you’re wondering how I could just
sit back and go along with victor’s plan.

Sharon: Yeah, that is surprising that you agreed, given that her whole
objective was to frame you.

Adam: Well, I had no idea what my father had done. I was on the run. And
then, when I came back to town…

Sharon: You were in the hospital…

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sharon: …Donating your kidney.

Adam: When I learned the truth, I kept my mouth shut because I don’t want
connor’s mother to go to prison. I thought going in the mental facility would
help her heal. And her confession did clear me.

Sharon: Well, now that you explain it, I understand.

Adam: Plus, I blame myself for so much of what’s happened. Chelsea was the
one that had a devastating reaction, but I am the one that gave her something to
react to. A lie about her mental state to get her to the hospital is just the
beginning of chelsea’s crimes, but, uh…

Sharon: But what?

Adam: I try not to dwell on this, especially with chelsea out of town with
our son, but… I don’t know, when push comes to shove, chelsea always reverts
to form.

Sharon: But some people might say the same about you.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] It’s very common to have

Adam: You are right. Most people will figure any change that I’m trying to
make for myself will be temporary or that it’s all just a show to begin with. I
actually just had a conversation with nikki about that very thing.

Sharon: I assume she thinks the worst of you.

Adam: Actually, she is giving me the benefit of the doubt for now. I hope
that you will have just as much faith that I can pull this off.

Sharon: You really have to ask?

Adam: There is a certain satisfaction that comes from just putting in the
work, trying to be a decent person instead of reveling in being the bad guy. You
know, every day is a new challenge. But I like it.

Sharon: You’re taking stock in yourself.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Sharon: That’s good.

Adam: Yeah, when I think about all the time and energy i invested in creating
conflict, not to mention the weight of all the hate and anger…it’s exhausting.
Just wish I had come to this realization a long time ago.

Sharon: Well, you know, you can’t always force change. I think the trick is
you just stay open-minded about it.

Adam: Hmm. Makes me think about how sure chelsea was that I was going to
steal connor away from her. How primed she was to expect the worst from me. But
maybe your suggestion that i let connor go with her will pay unintended
dividends.

Sharon: Well, I think it could be important that chelsea sees that you trust
her. It could help her heal.

Adam: Maybe she’ll see me in a different light, too.

Sharon: Since when has it been important to you what other people think?

Adam: It has always been important to me what you think of me. You know that.

Sharon: Worry about the rest of the world, right? We’re fine.

Adam: Mostly. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t miss you.

Sharon: It’s probably just, uh, your loneliness talking because your
relationship with chelsea is irretrievably over and connor’s out of town.

Adam: It’s deeper than that, sharon. You know that. And that will never
change.

Sharon: I know. Faith’s waiting for me at home. I have to get going.

Adam: Well, it’s perfect timing. Finished my coffee. Thank you for staying
open.

Sharon: Of course.

Adam: Good night.

Sharon: Good night.

Abby: There is more than enough blame to go around, so i am not gonna let you
hog it all, even though you and mariah are a couple and you’re very in tune with
each other.

Tessa: Which is why i should’ve known that something was wrong.

Abby: No, I have made so many mistakes. Number one, I mean, I feel like I
know mariah pretty well, and i had no idea that she was having such a hard time.
I mean, think about it. I mean, I was micro-managing every single thing that
went into her mouth. I was worrying every time she left the house. It was too
much.

Tessa: Oh, this is so much better. Competing who can take on more blame
instead of blame each other for mariah running away.

Abby: So much better. You know, when mariah comes back, I am not gonna get an
account of every single moment of her day.

Tessa: Yeah, and mariah can make her own herbal tea, which i will probably
still bring to her, of course.

Abby: Of course.

Tessa: But I’m putting my foot down — she can make it herself.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Victor: Please have a seat.

Sutton: Thank you. I don’t have much time. I just came from an angry
encounter with my granddaughters.

Victor: Oh, boy, I know what that is about. Being at odds with one’s family
is not nice, is it?

Sutton: It’s brought me to a new level of clarity.

Victor: Ah.

Sutton: Yeah, I know what to do now.

Victor: Really? What’s that?

Sutton: Well, you give me that letter from richard, and when the day comes
that you need this favor repaid, it will be.

Victor: About that letter, sutton.

Sutton: Hmm?

Victor: Not gonna give it to you.

Sutton: This whole deal was your idea.

Victor: Yeah, I know. But I thought about it, you know? I realized that
amanda would have far better use for it than you do.

Sutton: What kind of game are you playing?

Victor: Ain’t playing a game.

Sutton: You said you had no allegiance to amanda.

Victor: Nothing to do with her. It has everything to do with not wanting to
help you. Now, you and I, sutton, have played on the edges of legality for a
while, you know? But this is different. I mean, you committed a crime. You
betrayed your family. And that I have no tolerance for. Don’t settle for
products that give you a sort of white smile.

Devon: I mean, the way I see it, this is all good news, ’cause mariah’s
taking care of herself and the baby, and she’s checked in, like the responsible
adult that she is. And the tension between the two of you seems to be gone.

Tessa: Yes, that’s true. We’re in a good place again.

Abby: Yes, and more importantly, tessa and I were just discussing how we want
to rethink things for when mariah comes home.

Tessa: Which she said would be in time for her next doctor’s appointment.

Devon: Good, good. Is something wrong, tessa?

Tessa: I don’t want to rain on any parades, but look,

[Sighs] I’ve said it before. She could’ve called. All of us. Or just one of
us, because she knew that we would worry, but she only reaches out through text?

Abby: Maybe it’s because she’s that if she hears one of our voices, she’ll be
tempted to come home before she’s ready.

Tessa: I guess.

Abby: You know what? I don’t know about you guys, but when mariah returns, I
don’t want her to feel a bit of pressure. All I want her to feel are little,
tiny baby kicks from inside from a baby who’s eager to meet all of us.

Devon: Amen.

Victor: Sutton, you’re the head of your family. There’s no greater
responsibility. You were given the gift of two beautiful twin granddaughters.
You didn’t protect them. Didn’t do a damn thing for them. You turned your back
on them. Why? To protect your own rear end.

Sutton: I did what I had to do.

Victor: That’s what all politicians say.

Sutton: You are no better than me. I’ve heard all the stories about your
awful relationships with your own children.

Victor: You haven’t heard all of them. There were many. And I have made
mistakes. I admit to it. But one dictum, one mantra I’ve always lived by — I
never turn my back on my family. I never leave them to their own devices. That’s
why I’ve created this new company with my son adam. The guy that a lot of people
had given up for a lost cause. That’s why I appointed my daughter victoria to
run newman enterprises, a company that I created. You turned your back on your
family out of selfishness. Now you’re paying for that.

Sutton: You’ve always had your billions of dollars to buy your way out of
your problems. I don’t have that luxury. I had to remain untouchable. My power
base has to be secure. That’s the only way I can ensure my family comes first.

Victor: And richard nealon, amanda’s father, got in the way of that?

Sutton: Uh-huh. Yeah, richard… he was trouble. Naya deserved so much more.
He wasn’t like us. It’s a miracle that somebody with his background even made it
to college. And my pride and joy had to go and get herself pregnant with that…
well, if that meant that two accidents of birth had to be sacrificed, then, by
god, so be it.

[ Stammers ] It was for the greater good.

Victor: Oh, yeah.

Sutton: I can live with what I’ve done. Richard was a nobody. He was a gnat.
And he could’ve brought down everything I’d worked for. Well, that was a risk I
was not willing to take. Now give me the damn letter.

Victor: What letter is that, sutton?

[ Door opens ]

Imani: I’d like to hear that answer, too, grandfather. What letter? Are you
tired of clean clothes that just don’t smell clean?

Devon: Alright. Well, now that I know everything is cool with mariah and that
you’re feeling better about everything, I should probably go and check on
amanda, ’cause she’s been having a tough time tonight.

Tessa: Oh, I hope everything’s okay.

Devon: Oh, thank you. If it’s not, I know she’ll make it right, so…

Abby: Hey, devon, um, before you go, I — I just wanted to thank you for
talking me down earlier, reminding me of what chance would say in a stressful
situation. It really helped.

Devon: I’m glad it did. You have a really good guy who loves you, puts you
first and foremost, so hang on to him.

Abby: I will. I’m very lucky to have you remind me of that.

Sutton: I don’t know how much you heard —

Amanda: We heard more than enough.

Sutton: Well, I’ll deny it. Every word — it was all said in the heat of the
moment.

Amanda: Well, we recorded every word. So you can deny it all you want, but
this is exactly what I need to save my mother and to prove that you are the one
who had my father killed. Victor knew exactly what to say to keep you talking.
Oh, and by the way? There is no letter. There never was.

Sutton: These charges will never stick.

Amanda: We’ll see.

Sutton: Amanda, just tell me what you want.

Amanda: I want my father back, you son of a bitch.

Sharon: I don’t need any saving. I didn’t come here to cry on your shoulder.

Adam: You can, sharon. Okay? You can be or feel anything you want with me.

Sharon: You know, you’ve convinced yourself that you’re damaged somehow and
you’re flawed and beyond saving, but, you know, that’s not true. Yeah, you’re in

Adam: When I was trapped with nick, I’ve realized that you are a part of me,
sharon. And you always will be. There’s no denying it. I told myself that I was
leaving to protect you, to protect everyone, but… no matter how fast or far
away i run, you will always be right there with me. The fact that I’m standing
here right now is just further proof of that.

Sharon: No, you’re here for faith, nothing more.

Adam: Sharon… just hear me out, okay? Before nick found me, I had a lot of
time alone. He only knew where to find me because of you and your insight…
into me. You’ve always understood how my mind works. I mean, even when I had
forgotten who I was, and I was living in vegas. And after I learned what I had
done to A.J. Montalvo as a kid, you see me, sharon. You see me in a way no one’s
been able to do… not even chelsea. And I don’t expect anything to ever come of
it, because I know nothing can come of it.

Sharon: You say all these beautiful words, these… seductive and tempting
words, but…here is the truth, adam. I can’t be that for you. I can’t — I

going to get back together.

Adam: Because of rey? I mean, can you honestly compare your feelings for him
to what you and I shared?

Sharon: No, I cannot because I’ll never love him the way that I loved you.

Sharon: But that doesn’t mean that my love for rey isn’t strong. He — he
supports me. He builds me up. He gives me strength. Whereas, with you… things
are just complicated. You have to get better for the sake of your family!

Adam: No. No. What I need is to get out of genoa city with my family. That is
what’s gonna make me heal, okay? Or call the judge, okay? Call the judge. Tell
him you’ve made a mistake. Tell him that you saw me, you’ve spent time with me,
and you’ve realized that you made a mistake, okay? If I ever meant anything to
you, sharon, fix this. Okay? Save me.

Sharon: I can’T. You know that. You know that.

Adam: I just — I don’t know if I can.

just compartmentalize whole relationships of this scope.

Amanda: Michael Baldwin, this is my colleague, Imani.

Michael: Imani, good to meet you.

Imani: Likewise.

Amanda: Shall we get to it?

Michael: Alright. I understand this meeting has to do with the case against your client, Naya Benedict.

Amanda: Yes. We have some crucial new information — a recording of Sutton Ames revealing that he is responsible for the death of Richard Nealon.

Michael: So Naya falsely confessed to a murder?

Imani: I’m afraid so.

Amanda: It will all become clear when you listen to this. Hear the whole story from our grandfather’s own lips.

Michael: Hold on. “Our” grandfather? You’re sisters?

Imani: Surprise.

Michael: So you were your grandfather’s lawyer, and now you’re representing your mother, who is trying to prevent her father from going to prison. Have I got that right?

Amanda: You are 100% correct. Now, you always wondered why I, of all people, was asked to head up Sutton’s legal team and why I took on Naya’s case, given my lack of experience in criminal law. They’re the family that I never knew that I had, until recently. And now I am also aware that because of Sutton’s callous indifference and need for control, Hilary and I were forced to grow up without our father, Richard Nealon.

Michael: Dear god.

Amanda: But the secrets and lies stop now.

Tessa: Hey, Abby. Is everything alright?

Abby: I haven’t been sleeping well. I was doing some work, and, well, I nodded off and I had a terrible dream.

Tessa: What was it about?

Abby: I was up high on this bluff. I was with you and Nina, and I looked down and Mariah was in a field. I couldn’t see her face, and she was running, but we couldn’t get to her. We kept calling her name, we screaming after her, telling her, “don’t leave.” It was just so vivid.

Tessa: We’re all exhausted and stressed to the max since Mariah’s been gone. I mean, no wonder you’re having bad dreams.

Abby: I think it’s more than just stress.

Tessa: Okay, what do you mean?

Abby: As soon as I woke up, I had an epiphany. I’m starting to worry again that there is something seriously wrong with this whole Mariah situation.

Nate: Hey, Faith. What are you looking at so intently?

Faith: My summer reading assignment.

Nate: Oh, I hope you’re enjoying it.

Faith: Yeah, this book’s not half bad. As far as homework goes, this is as good as it gets.

Nate: Uh, you haven’t seen Elena by any chance? We were supposed to meet up.

Faith: She was here, but she had to leave.

Nate: Oh.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Nate: Ooh. Ooh, mystery solved. She was called in to work at the last minute.

Faith: Did you two have a date?

Nate: No, not really. We just, you know, wanted to grab some time with each other.

Faith: Same with Moses and me. I was thinking he might drop by. Not that we’re dating or anything.

Nate: Of course not.

Faith: But he shows up sometimes because he knows I’m here a lot.

Nate: I haven’t seen my cousin and I don’t know his plans. But I doubt Moses would miss an opportunity to spend time with you.

Moses: Things are way better between Faith and me.

Devon: Oh, yeah? So Lily gave you some good advice, then.

Moses: She did, yeah. We’re taking things slow, but at least now I know I won’t be stuck in the friend zone forever.

Devon: So is this why you wanted my help? Is this about Faith?

Moses: Yeah. I want to do something nice for her. Show her how much I like her without all that pressure. Lily told me that’s what girls like.

Devon: She’s right. But there’s plenty of things you could do to show Faith you care without being over the top. Where do I come into play?

Moses: Well, Faith’s favorite band is TigirLily. I mean, she lights up whenever she hears any of their songs, and they’re headlining the New Hope charity event concert in the park this weekend.

Devon: I think I know where this is going.

Moses: I figured you might. You said at breakfast that they’re in town already and that you’re having to meet with them later today.

Devon: Uh-huh. And I assume that Faith is gonna be at the concert ’cause Nick is one of the organizers.

Moses: Yeah, she wouldn’t miss it. But I was hoping you could make it even more special for her.

Devon: More special. Well, how about — how about two backstage passes?

Moses: Really?

Devon: Yeah, it’s done.

Moses: [ Chuckles ] Thanks, man. You’re the best ever. Seriously.

Devon: Well, I try.

Moses: Now let’s see if you can top yourself. I have one more favor to ask of you.

Devon: Alright, keep talking.

Michael: Well, that was quite something.

Amanda: Now, I’m aware that it is not a confession and it may not be admissible in court, but I believe that it opens your mind up to the possibility that Naya is not guilty.

Michael: Alright, I’m listening.

Amanda: This recording of Sutton makes it clear that he killed my father for one reason — to make sure the story of his illegitimate grandkids did not come to light, so he cared more about his reputation and his political power than he did his own family.

Michael: Well…what he said about Richard Nealon made my blood run cold. I can’t imagine how you felt. You have my sympathy.

Amanda: Thank you.

Michael: What you’ve both gone through, handling his case and now Naya’s —

Amanda: Yeah, it has been a journey. But for all the moments of shock and pain, there’s also been some moments of positivity. I met my sister and my mother, and I’ve learned to lean on the people closest to me for support. I even found support in some unexpected places. [ Chuckles ] Victor Newman himself.

Michael: [ Laughs ] Well, nobody can push someone’s buttons quite like he can.

Amanda: [ Chuckles ]

Imani: I got a real education watching the man.

Michael: Yeah. Do you really think Sutton forced his own daughter to take the rap for him?

Amanda: Perhaps. Or maybe he convinced her that I could have gotten her a lighter sentence than he would have received.

Imani: Not much comfort when she’d be doing the time, though.

Michael: Okay. I want to see justice done. When can you bring Naya to my office so that we can speak directly? So I can get my facts straight.

Michael: Obviously, the police and I are gonna want to talk to Naya as soon as possible. Is there a problem?

Amanda: I wish I could accommodate you. I desperately want this resolved, but we are gonna need some time.

Michael: Why?

Amanda: It is a gut-wrenching situation. Naya was willing to sacrifice herself for Sutton. To get her to recant, it’s gonna take some convincing.

Michael: Well, luckily, I mean, for you at least, I happen to be well versed in complicated family dynamics involving criminal activity.

Imani: Oh, something you studied in school?

Michael: Sadly, no. Personal experience.

Amanda: So you can understand why we can’t push our mother too much. But if all goes well, I’m sure she’ll be able to meet with you in a day or two.

Michael: Hmm, I can live with that. I want to make sure the right person is prosecuted.

Imani: So do we.

Michael: Alright. Look, I will issue a warrant for Sutton’s arrest. I will do what I can to prevent him from leaving the country, but I don’t have to tell you that this whole thing will work more smoothly when Naya comes clean.

Amanda: I’m gonna make sure that happens.

Faith: Taking off?

Nate: Yep. Listen, if I run into my cousin, I will let him know you wouldn’t mind taking a break from your reading.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Faith: [ Chuckles ] Thanks, but you don’t have to.

Nate: Is that Moses?

Faith: [ Chuckles ] On his way.

Nate: You two have fun.

Moses: She’s at the coffee house now, so I’m gonna head over there.

Devon: Alright, I will handle everything else.

Moses: This is gonna be amazing. Seriously, thank you. You’re the best big brother ever.

Devon: I know this. See you, man.

Tessa: You’re freaking me out a little. I thought that we had all agreed that once Mariah sent those texts, that we could stop worrying why she’s been gone for so long.

Abby: Have you?

Tessa: Honestly? No.

Nina: I’ve tried.

Abby: Well, after I had that awful dream, I went back and I reread all of the texts that Mariah has sent me. Remember when she sent that one, she was joking about how she was doing and she said, “Your child isn’t giving me too much grief yet.”

Nina: Yeah, and?

Abby: Okay, when has Mariah ever referred to the baby as “your child”?

Tessa: Never. It’s always been “our child,” “our baby,” ’cause, you know, group effort.

Abby: Yeah, so why the sudden change? Why now?

Nina: I think you’re reading a lot into just a turn of phrase. It might just be Mariah’s needing to, you know, back off a little bit.

Tessa: No. Abby’s right. It is strange. Something feels off to me, even if Mariah hasn’t come out and said it.

Abby: Maybe she’s having second thoughts about being a surrogate. Maybe she’s starting to rethink everything. Maybe she regrets it.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Nina: I’ll get it.

Tessa: If it helps, she’s never said anything like that to me.

Abby: Or me. I don’t know. Hey, maybe Nina’s right. Maybe I’m overreacting.

Tessa: Or maybe you’re not.

Nina: Look who I found on the doorstep.

Abby: Ben. Hi.

Stitch: This a bad time?

Nina: No, I think you’re here at exactly the right time. Aw, c’mon flowers.

Moses: So you’re gonna finish your summer reading two months early, and then what?

Faith: I’ll have to find other ways to amuse myself.

Moses: Okay, well, I think it’s time for you to put the tablet away and kick back.

Faith: Totally. Why don’t we get out of here, grab some sun?

Moses: Actually, you know what? You mind if we eat something first? I haven’t had lunch yet.

Faith: Sure. Want me to make you a sandwich? I know where my mom keeps the good — no way. Look who your brother’s with.

Moses: Whoa, isn’t that Kendra and Krista from TigirLily?

Faith: Oh, my god, it is. Only my favorite band in the entire universe. Devon knows them?

Moses: Yeah, he’s a music producer. He knows all the big names.

Faith: [ Exhales sharply ]

Moses: You know what? You want me to see if he’ll introduce you?

Faith: Are you serious? Yes!

Stitch: I understand why you’d feel disconcerted.

Nina: So do I. But why don’t we all just take a breath and think through this some more?

Tessa: Okay.

Nina: Mariah’s texts made it clear that she was done with us hovering. But from everything that I’ve seen, she’s been nothing but thrilled to be carrying this baby for you and chance. I don’t know, I just think it’s easy for us to be feeding off of one another’s worry, and that’s not the best way to go about this.

Abby: Remember the last time we started to spin out about this, and I said that our mind fills in the blanks when we don’t have all the pieces to the puzzle? Maybe we’re jumping to conclusions, and things seem right when they actually aren’t.

Nina: Yeah, I think that’s very true.

Stitch: And yet…

Abby: What?

Stitch: Given what you’ve told me about how Mariah expresses herself, I agree. The language from the text is odd. “Your child”? I mean, it implies she suddenly feels disconnected from the baby.

Tessa: Yes, exactly.

Abby: Okay, I’m not trying to over-think this, but maybe Mariah’s message, maybe it was her subconscious. I mean, maybe she was revealing more than she meant to. I mean, maybe all of this is just too much for her.

Imani: Sorry if I made Michael suspicious. I was freaking out when he asked to see Mom, since we have no clue where she is right now. But you handled it perfectly.

Amanda: Naya still hasn’t responded to my texts.

Imani: Mine either. Or my father’s. He promised he would let me know if he heard from her.

Amanda: We need to find her before the authorities realize that she’s missing and before Sutton gets to her, before he manipulates her like he usually does, get her to stick to her statement.

Imani: Even though I know my grandfather is guilty and I despise him for what he did, a part of me still can’t believe how this all played out. I can’t get over how he convinced our mother, who was fragile to begin with, to take the fall for him, to sacrifice her whole future. Makes me sick.

Amanda: I’m sorry. You know, as intense as this has been for me, I can’t even imagine what you are experiencing. You know, the family that you’ve known and loved your entire life just falling apart this way.

Imani: I had an incredible childhood. Filled with love and support. But no one ever made me feel as special as my grandfather did. Whatever goal I set for myself, that man was my biggest cheerleader, encouraging me every step of the way. It’s not like I thought he was a saint. Sutton expected perfection from everyone around him, and if you disappointed him, he could cut you down with just a look, make you feel terrible for days afterward.

Amanda: I was on the receiving end of several of those looks.

Imani: He demanded loyalty. My grandfather was controlling and self-serving, and his career always came first. Still, it’s hard for me to accept that he’s the same vicious man in that recording, that arranged to have someone killed, and then justified it. Rationalized it, saying he had no choice and it was “for the best.” Hearing him say those words, it just — it made it all real. [ Sighs ] I don’t know what my next step is, but I know this part of my life is over. Even if Sutton figures out a way to save himself — and make no mistake, he could — I can’t keep working for him. I don’t want my name being associated with his ever again.

Amanda: Sutton will pay for what he’s done. I will not rest until that happens. And I believe that you will wind up on your feet.

Imani: Damn right. It’s just a question of where I’ll land.

Amanda: Well, I might be able to help you with that.

Faith: This is so cool. I discovered TigirLily a few months back when I was going through a rough time, and your lyrics really spoke to me, especially “somebody does.”

Kendra: That is the best compliment you can give to an artist.

Krista: We love hearing that our songs mean as much to our fans as they do to us.

Faith: Would the two of you mind taking a picture with me? So I have proof that this actually happened and that I didn’t just dream it.

Moses: Here, I’ll take it.

Kendra: Alright, get in here.

Devon: You know how to work that thing?

Moses: Awesome.

Amanda: I’ve been thinking about starting my own law practice — the Sinclair Firm. But “Sinclair & Benedict” has a nice ring to it.

Imani: [ Scoffs ] Wait, are you saying —

Amanda: You can take the bar exam — finally — get your license and we can be partners.

Imani: You’d really want us to work together?

Amanda: I’m so happy that I found you, Imani. I never would have pictured myself saying that months ago.

Imani: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, that restraining order. Oh, god, I cringe every time I think about it.

Amanda: Yeah, me too. But we’ve really come so far. We became allies. Along the way, you know, you became a friend and now… you really feel like my sister.

Imani: Now here you are, getting all mushy over a job offer.

[ Both laugh ]

Amanda: Okay, um, alright, I’m sorry about that. Um, alright, how about this? I think we’ll make a pretty good team.

Imani: Agreed. Can I think it over before I give you an answer?

Amanda: Yeah, no, of course. Take all the time you need.

Stitch: Like you said, Abby, it’s tempting to over-analyze these things. And I understand why you’re concerned, but there’s probably no reason to be worried.

Tessa: If Mariah were in trouble, I would hope that she would reach out to me directly.

Abby: People don’t always know how to do that, though, when they’re feeling emotional or overwhelmed. And Mariah, she is so independent. You know that. I’m not saying that something terrible has happened, but I just — I wish that we could talk to her and ask her how she’s feeling. And if she’s struggling, I wish that Tessa would be able to go to her and help her, support her.

Tessa: You have no idea how much I want to do that. But she’s not taking my calls. Plus, her location services is off on her phone.

Stitch: There might be a way to trace her location from her texts. A specialized app or something. I know you don’t want to hassle the woman or crowd her, but if you want, I can look into it.

Tessa: Oh, my god, yes, please.

Abby: We wouldn’t necessarily have to do anything with the information. It would just give us some peace of mind.

Nina: Hold on, we need to talk about this and think about it long and hard. Okay, Mariah wrote that she will be back before her next doctor’s appointment. That’s in one week, and she said she didn’t want to be smothered.

Abby: You’re right, she did.

Nina: If Mariah really does just need her space, she’s gonna resent us for not giving it to her. Are we absolutely sure we want to do this? Doing it yourself

Stitch: I have some news. I’m finally heading back to Iowa.

Abby: Yeah. I guess this was just a visit. You had to head home sometime.

Stitch: Only short term. My real news — I’ve decided to take the job at Memorial. Chief of surgery. I’ll be moving back to Genoa City.

Abby: Ben, oh, my gosh! I’m thrilled. I had no idea they made you a formal offer.

Tessa: Sounds like a really sweet gig.

Stitch: I think it will be.

Nina: From what I’ve heard of your surgical skills, Memorial’s happy to have you, surely.

Stitch: That’s very kind.

Abby: How long will you be away?

Stitch: A few days. Just long enough to pack my bags and check in on Max.

Abby: You’re gonna keep him where he is?

Stitch: He’s used to his doctors and routine at his facility. I — I don’t want to uproot him. I feel like that’d be too traumatic.

Abby: Oh, that’s gonna be hard for you, though.

Stitch: It will, but it’s what’s right for Max. You know, and I can visit. It’s not that long of a drive.

Abby: Well, if there’s anything I can do to help this transition go smoothly, just say the word.

Stitch: I appreciate that. Thanks.

Abby: Well, you’ve been so helpful. It’s the least I can do.

Stitch: I will need to find a place to live.

Abby: Great! Let’s go house hunting. I can call my realtor and have her set up some showings for when you get back.

Stitch: There are a couple of furnished places I was gonna check out today before I got on the road. I know it’s short notice, but if you have time…

Nina: Her answer is yes. Yes! You need a distraction, and one just presented itself. Go.

Abby: Well, when you put it that way [Chuckles] Let’s do this.

Faith: I love this picture. I know I keep saying that. Sick of hearing it yet?

Moses: [ Chuckles ] No.

Faith: I’m totally posting this and making it the wallpaper of my phone and my laptop and maybe even my room. Kidding. Sort of.

Moses: Nah, do whatever you want with it.

Faith: I’m still in awe that I got to meet them. Backstage passes — can you believe it? Wait, what are the odds that your brother would walk in with… wait a second. That wasn’t a coincidence, was it? You set the whole thing up! [ Chuckles ]

Devon: Hey. How’d everything go with Michael?

Amanda: After I played him the recording of Sutton, he responded exactly as I’d hoped.

Imani: It seems like he’s willing to work with us.

Amanda: Yes, which clears a major hurdle. So as soon as Naya recants her phony confession, Michael can push for an investigation into Sutton.

Devon: That’s the best possible outcome.

Amanda: It would be, except Naya’s disappearing act. I can’t believe that we haven’t heard from her.

Imani: This isn’t like her. I have to believe that she’ll reach out soon, if only to let us know that she’s okay.

Amanda: I really hope so, because we are, you know, hitting a deadline here.

Devon: Have you guys heard from Sutton since his meeting with Victor?

Amanda: Not a peep.

Imani: That means he’s off licking his wounds somewhere, plotting a strategy to save himself.

Amanda: Yeah, he’s probably cursing the day that I showed up on Naya’s doorstep, blaming me for ruining his life.

Devon: No, Sutton ruined his own life the day he decided that your father was expendable, his granddaughters didn’t belong in their own family.

Imani: Sutton would never see it that way, guaranteed.

Devon: Nah, he’s gonna definitely fight back, and he’ll probably fight dirty, too.

Amanda: He will, and I’ll be ready.

Stitch: Okay, so you don’t think that was too impulsive?

Abby: Are you kidding me? You could look for a whole week and not find a more gorgeous apartment.

Stitch: Well, I’m glad you like it.

Abby: Yeah, it is fully furnished, right down to the pots and pans, so when you get back from Iowa, all you have to do is move in.

Stitch: I’ll have to learn the neighborhood, find the grocery store, best places for takeout. I already know of a dry cleaner’s right near the hospital, so at least that’s taken care of, right?

Abby: Are you talking about that little strip mall on Oak Street?

Stitch: That’s the one.

Abby: Yeah, that is now a parking garage for the new oncology wing.

Stitch: No! Don’t — my favorite Thai place is right next to the cleaner’s.

Abby: You’ll just have to find a new favorite place to eat shrimp pad Thai. Or you could eat at Society a lot.

Stitch: Well, there’s a thought. I just happen to know the owner.

Abby: Mm. Do you now?

Stitch: Yeah.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Stitch: You sure have gone from knowing all the best restaurants to owning the best of the best. It’s pretty cool.

Abby: Having endured my cooking, I think you should know that I went into business just so I could eat out a lot.

Stitch: Don’t sell yourself short.

Abby: I never do. [ Chuckles ]

Stitch: This has — this has been great. Uh…thanks for helping me find a place to crash. I hope I haven’t monopolized your day too badly.

Abby: Seriously? Apartment hunting — how could that be anything but fun for me?

Stitch: I guess it is a form of shopping.

Abby: Oh, yeah. [ Laughs ] Real-estate therapy. I should be thanking you.

Nina: I can see it’s getting to you. I’m sorry, Tessa. I’m not an expert, okay? As much as I think we should give Mariah her space, I’m just the grandmother, you know? You’re talking about the woman you love, so it’s got to be your call. Yeah. I’ll be upstairs if you need me, alright?

Devon: Well, hey, I know the plan was to get a bite here, but after everything, you want to just take something back to my place and relax tonight?

Amanda: Honestly, that sounds like heaven. I will be checking my phone nonstop, but, yes, I would love to decompress.

Imani: I’m in. Who’s driving?

Nate: Okay, can I clear a room or what?

Amanda: [ Chuckles ] No, we are not leaving on your account.

Nate: Okay, well, I’ll try not to take it personally then.

Imani: Please don’t.

Nate: Everyone doing okay?

Amanda: For the moment.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Nate: Oh, I better take this. You guys enjoy your meal. This is Dr. Hastings.

Devon: Alright, I’m gonna go put in our orders. What would you ladies like?

Imani: Surprise me. Besides, I think I might want to stay and eat here after all.

Amanda: Imani, will you stop it?

Imani: What?

Amanda: You have that same look in your eye that you had at our cocktail party. Just flirting with Nate. Listen to me, Nate is dating Elena.

Imani: So? What’s the harm in a little innocent flirting?

Nate: Well, keep me posted.

Imani: Can I buy you a drink?

Nate: I thought you guys were leaving.

Imani: Not yet. Besides, I have ulterior motives.

Nate: Ah.

Imani: I’d like to get your advice on something.

Nate: Okay, is this a medical question?

Imani: Something personal.

Nate: Hmm.

Imani: It’s about Amanda.

Abby: Oh, do you need to hit the road?

Stitch: Soon. I’ll take you home, and then I’ll leave from there.

Abby: No, no, no need. This is really nice. Being outside on this beautiful summer day, not dwelling on things I can’t control.

Stitch: You don’t have your car.

Abby: Well, I will just take a ride-share when I’m ready to go.

Stitch: Alright, then. I guess this is goodbye.

Abby: But you’re only gonna be gone a few days, right?

Stitch: I’ll be back before you know it. In the meantime, I hope you hear from Mariah. Something a little less cryptic.

Abby: That would be nice, yeah. [ Chuckles ]

Stitch: Take care, Abby.

Abby: Let me know when you get back to town.

Stitch: You’ll be the first. I’m — I’m gonna go.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: Alright, I ordered the snapper with mango salsa for Imani.

Amanda: Yeah, you probably shouldn’t even have gotten her anything. Doesn’t look like she’s leaving anytime soon. [ Sighs ] Guess I got to give her credit for being bold, huh?

Devon: I wouldn’t worry. Nate’s grown. Went through a lot for him and Elena to get back to a good place, so I don’t think he’s gonna throw that away just ’cause someone new is smiling at him.

Amanda: Yeah, you’re probably right.

Devon: I’m definitely right.

Amanda: Well, I hope so, for Elena’s sake.

Imani: So, if and when I pass the bar, Amanda would like me to be her partner.

Nate: What? I hadn’t realized she planned on starting your own firm. Wow. Good for her.

Imani: It makes all kinds of sense for Amanda, but would it be right for me?

Nate: What?

Imani: [ Laughs ] I suppose that’s not a fair question, since you don’t walk around with a crystal ball.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Imani: Or do you?

Nate: You know, I left it in my other jacket.

[ Both laugh ]

Imani: It happens. You’ve known Amanda longer than I have, so I’d like your take. How do you think it would be working with her — not as an assistant like I’ve been doing, but, like, as a full-on partner?

Nate: A dream come true. Amanda’s whip smart, forthright, ethical, driven. She also has a huge heart. Granted, not all siblings can work together, but if you’re up for it, I think it’d be a stellar opportunity.

Imani: You certainly make the idea of accepting this job and relocating here permanently very appealing.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Imani: Oh. Ohh. Sorry, I’ve been waiting for this.

Nate: No, go right on.

Imani: Thanks. Mom, are you alright?

Naya: I’m fine. At least for now. That’s why I’m calling. I knew you and Amanda would be worried.

Imani: She’s right here. Hold on. Amanda, guess who.

Amanda: Naya? Thank god you called.

Naya: I’m sorry I left without calling you girls, but I just panicked and ran.

Amanda: Okay, where are you?

Naya: It’s best if you don’t know. I don’t want you trying to find me.

Amanda: Listen to me, I understand that you are scared, but everything has changed. You need to come back to Genoa City now.

Nikki: Victor? Car will be here any minute. We don’t want to be late. Making everybody wait for us. Victor! Where are you? Oh, for heaven’s sake.

Victor: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: Dad. What are you doing here? I thought that you and mom were supposed to be on a flight to europe.

Victor: I just wanted to say hello, you know. Plans haven’t changed. That’s the advantage of having one’s own plane.

Victoria: Oh, that’s true. Well, I’m glad to hear it. I think that it would be good for you both to get away for a while. In fact, I’m very jealous.

Victor: I would’ve invited you. Wish you’d come along, but you’re busy with the merger.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Yes, well, thank you so much for your flowers of congratulations. I hope that the sentiment behind it was sincere.

Victor: I am full of admiration. I mean, you parlayed your connection to ashland locke into this fantastic merger.

Victoria: You know, you make it sound like it was purely a calculated move on my part. That’s not how it happened.

Victor: What, don’t you disappoint me now. Do you mean it was ashland locke’s idea?

Kyle: Ashland, what can I do for you?

Ashland: Tara, we need to talk!

Kyle: She’s dropping harrison off at a play date.

Ashland: Are you behind this?

Kyle: Behind what?

Ashland: Are you trying to steal my son from me in my last days?

Lily: Okay, katie is on the bus on her way to camp. How is johnny?

Billy: He’s alright. His stomach’s a little upset still. Sorry if I kept you up last night taking care of him.

Lily: Oh, no, it’s fine. I’ve been up many nights with sick kids. And the good thing about twins is that when one gets sick, the other one gets it a couple days later, so… poor johnny.

Billy: Yeah, he was trying to be brave, but I think he’s given up on that finally.

Lily: Oh. Well, I’m really sorry to leave you alone to deal with all of this.

Billy: No, it’s alright. I’ll hang out here. I’ll take care of him, get him a little more fluids and some crackers and toast maybe, and of course, favorite book of riddles to keep him laughing.

Lily: Aww, cute. I want to hear one.

Billy: Oh, yeah, you want to hear his favorite one?

Lily: Yeah.

Billy: “Why’d the cookie get sick?”

Lily: Why?

Billy: “Because it felt crummy.”

Lily: Ohh! Good job. Delivery was great.

Billy: Did I sell you on that?

Lily: [ Laughing ] Yeah.

Billy: Yeah, the big question is why is johnny feeling sick and is it because of all the change that’s going on around him?

Phyllis: Okay, so what’s happening? Tell me everything. Any new developments?

Summer: Mom, you were just here. Not much has changed in a couple of days.

Phyllis: Yeah, I know, but i was just, you know, wanted to talk about stuff going on with you to take your mind off of your homesickness.

Summer: Well, I mean, news from home would probably be more effective. Don’t you think?

Phyllis: Okay. I mean, everybody knows about the newman-locke merger. You want to hear about that?

Summer: Mom, I can read all the business articles I want. I want to know how everybody there is doing.

Phyllis: You mean how’s kyle doing.

Summer: Among others. You know, I want to hear about how you are and how my family is, but, I mean, if you have information about kyle…

Phyllis: Well, tara is still at the abbott house. She’s still ensconced at the house with her kid, if that’s what you want to know. I mean, it’s amazing. She’s like one of those scavenger fishes that hooks on to the side of a whale or a shark.

Summer: God. I guess I was right about that one.

Phyllis: You called it right. I mean, it’s gonna last forever, summer, honestly. The abbotts are lovely people, but they see through — and they will see her true colors very, very soon. I promise you.

Victoria: Well, somehow your congratulations just transformed into a disappointment.

Victor: Sweetheart, there’s nothing wrong with taking advantage of a situation. Get what you want when the opportunity presents itself.

Victoria: Right, like you did when ashland had a heart attack.

Victor: Let’s not let this conversation descend into an argument, okay? That’s not what I intended.

Victoria: Well, what did you intend?

Victor: I intend to come here to tell you that I admire what you’ve done, to congratulate you. That’s all.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Thank you for saying that.

Victor: But don’t you get hurt.

Victoria: What do you mean?

Victor: [ Sighs ] Ashland locke is ill. We all know that, okay? A man in that situation looks for comfort and for affection and all that, you know?

Victoria: So you think that ashland giving me his company was a ploy to get closer to me and to move in here with me?

Victor: What do you mean move in here with you? Ashland locke moved into your house with your kids?

Victoria: That’s right. I assumed that mom had told you.

Victor: No, she did not. Sweetheart, I don’t want you to get hurt.

Victoria: Oh, wow. I can’t believe this. You and billy are actually on the same page. He gave me the exact same warning. I wish people would stop saying that ashland is taking advantage of me. Do you think that people maybe consider for one minute that he’s the one who tried to push me away and I chose to stay by his side?

Victor: I don’t think that’s wise.

Victoria: You can’t praise me for pulling off the coup of the century on one hand and then say that I’m weak and naive on the other hand. I’m neither of those things, dad. I know what I’m getting myself into. My relationship with ashland, it’s intense and it’s wonderful.

Victor: Intense and wonderful. I see. Don’t you think this all happened rather fast?

Victoria: I think that you and mom should go on your romantic getaway and don’t worry one minute about me. I will be here enjoying my merger, both professionally and personally.

Victor: Well… good luck with everything, okay? Don’t you get hurt. I’ll see you when I come back, alright?

Victoria: Alright.

Victor: I love you.

Victoria: Love you.

Kyle: Ashland, no one is trying to steal harrison from you.

Ashland: The petition that tara filed with the court seeking sole custody says otherwise.

Kyle: I think you need to discuss this with her.

Ashland: I want answers now, and she’s not here. So if you want to be harrison’s one and only father figure, why don’t you act like it and start talking?

Kyle: She’s worried about harrison. He was upset by what he saw in the park. There were tears afterwards, and he’s been having bad dreams ever since.

Ashland: Bad dreams? I-I… I had no idea. But that hardly — that hardly warrants tara seeking sole custody.

Kyle: She just wants to protect harrison. That’s gonna be harder and harder to do as your health deteriorates. He’s gonna see you in physical decline, and that’s gonna be upsetting for him.

Ashland: That’s not nearly as upsetting for him as it will be if I disappear from his life entirely.

Kyle: I’m sure tara doesn’t want to completely keep you away from harrison. She just wants more input about when and where you see him.

Ashland: Hmm. So in other words, tara is angling for me to beg on my hands and knees every time i want to see my child.

Kyle: No, if you could just get past your initial anger and think about what’s best for him, you could see she has a point.

Ashland: My initial anger is nothing. You just wait until I get warmed up a little and really lean into it.

Kyle: Oh, be reasonable, ashland.

Ashland: This is my illness. Now, I need to be the one to break the news to my son, and i need to spend every moment that I can with harrison. So you tell me, kyle, who’s the one who’s being unreasonable?

Phyllis: Hey, tara. Hey. Um, what are you doing here, another spa day?

Tara: Oh, I just dropped off harrison. He had a play date nearby. Thought I’d stop in for some coffee.

Phyllis: Oh, okay, great, great. I’m wrapping up a call with summer. Do you want to say hi?

Tara: Oh, that’s alright. I’ll leave you to it.

Phyllis: Okay.

Summer: Uh, what was that? You were being very sweet to her.

Phyllis: Shh, shh. I’m being civil. No need to be unkind.

Summer: Okay, you’re up to something.

Phyllis: Why would you say that? No, I’m not.

Summer: Mom, just leave it alone. Okay? What happened was meant to happen. Just promise me you’re gonna drop it.

Phyllis: Oh, baby, summer? Summer, I can’t see you anymore. I can’t hear you.

Summer: Mom, I know you can see me.

Phyllis: Babe, I can’t see you or hear you anymore. Okay? I have to go. Have a good day. Okay, honey? Crystal, can you fix this? Tara, hey. Listen, I just wanted to apologize for that thing I said yesterday.

Tara: You mean when you accused me of trying to take sole custody from a dying man?

Phyllis: That. That. I’m sorry, I’m just… [ Sighs ] I’m just so concerned for all involved.

Tara: I understand.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. And it must be so difficult for you, trying to protect your son from the pain of a dying parent. I mean, I sympathize. And I can’t imagine what you’re going through. I just feel bad, so there’s something that I need to confess to you.

Tara: What’s that?

Phyllis: I only pretended to befriend you.

Billy: Johnny gets like that. He knows that there’s change and upheaval going on around him, and he kind of takes it on. He’s a sensitive kid.

Lily: So you think ashland moving in is causing his symptoms?

Billy: I mean, I do, yeah. That, and being asked to bring more of his stuff here because this will be home base for a while. I think that he knows there’s a lot going on and, I don’t know, more than he’s being told.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, kids are pretty intuitive. But all we can do is just make johnny as comfortable as possible and make this a safe haven for your kids.

Billy: Thank you.

Lily: For what?

Billy: For you. For everything you do. [ Doorbell rings ] You expecting someone?

Lily: Mm, no.

Billy: Hey.

Victoria: Um, I got your text about johnny. I just wanted to stop by and check on him.

Billy: Yeah, please, come in. Sorry, I didn’t want to alarm you. I just wanted to let you know that he wasn’t feeling well.

Lily: Hey. Well, I have a meeting to get to, so I will see you later. Good to see you.

Billy: Okay.

Victoria: Likewise.

Lily: Bye.

Billy: Bye. I’ll see you in a bit. So I think johnny feeling upset has to do with —

Victoria: All the changes in his life. Yes, I know. I know. I heard your theory before.

Billy: Right, well, I don’t want to dismiss it. I think it’s proving itself to be true right about now.

Victoria: I agree with you to a certain extent, and I’m going to — to work hard to reassure him that he’s loved and that these changes are not for the worst, despite the fact that everyone thinks that I’m making such a terrible mistake.

Billy: Look, I meant what i said yesterday. I saw a different side of locke and your situation, and I was wrong to question your — your generous decision and wrong to question your ability to handle yourself.

Victoria: Thank you for that. Now I just have to try to get my dad on board.

Billy: Ooh, good luck with that.

Victoria: Yeah, I know. It’s gonna be rocky for a while.

Billy: Yeah. Well, I’m here for you. If you need anything — extra help with the kids or whatever — don’t hesitate to ask.

Victoria: Thank you. It’s sometimes a little tougher than I let on.

Billy: Can I ask you a question? If locke wasn’t dying, would you see a long-term future with him?

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] Are you asking if this was a fling that turned into something more serious because of the circumstances?

Billy: I’m just wondering. You don’t have to answer if you don’t want. And I’m not judging. I guess I’m just curious.

Tara: You were only pretending to be my friend? I don’t understand.

Phyllis: Yeah, just listen. When I saw you getting closer and closer to the abbotts, it set off alarm bells for me. I’m so protective of jack. And of kyle. And I just didn’t want them to be manipulated or taken advantage of.

Tara: That’s not what I’m doing.

Phyllis: I know. You see, when you said that — that thing to me yesterday, that we’re not that different — remember when you said that? — It just triggered me, and i realized that I was projecting all of my past history onto you. [ Sighs ] I did some pretty bad things in my past, things I’m not proud of, and I used to say, “oh, I’m just protecting someone” or “it’s a defense mechanism.” All of that was a lie. It was a lie. I was just selfish.

Tara: And you thought that’s what I was doing with kyle and jack?

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah. But I realize now I’m wrong. Anyway, I’m sorry. I apologize, and if you never want to talk to me again, i totally understand.

Tara: I appreciate you coming clean.

Phyllis: Okay. [ Chuckles ] Thank you. It feels good to come clean. Anyway, alright, I’ll get you some coffee. Alright, and, um…thank you for listening to me. I really appreciate it. You know, as a show of gratitude, I’m gonna give you this helpful tip. Avoid sally spectra like the plague.

Kyle: What are you doing here?

Sally: I was just looking for jack. I know he’s been working from home a lot to be close to harrison.

Kyle: Well, he’s not here now, but before you go, I want to make it clear how I hate the way you dive-bombed back into my father’s life.

Sally: Oh, that’s a funny way to put it.

Kyle: Ah, there’s nothing funny about you taking advantage of his loneliness and forgiving nature.

Sally: I didn’t take advantage of anything, kyle.

Kyle: I don’t buy that. And I plan to remind him just how opportunistic you are every chance I get.

Sally: Well, there is nothing that you can tell jack that he doesn’t already know. I think that you might be projecting your own loneliness on your father, since summer left you — again.

Kyle: Okay, don’t push me. I’m already making inquiries into precisely how this amazing job on another continent landed into summer’s lap.

Sally: You don’t have faith in your ex’s abilities?

Kyle: Oh, of course I have faith. I know she was hired because she deserved it, but then you ended up with summer’s old job at jcv — the very position you’ve coveted since you came to genoa city.

Sally: And I’m crushing it.

Kyle: Mm, but the suspicious part is just before summer got her big job offer, you flew to la.

Sally: What’s so suspicious about that?

Kyle: Well, you flew to la, land of the fashion royalty forresters, the very land you fled and hated. So, sally, what was that trip about?

Sally: I went to la to visit some old friends. I know it might seem impossible to you that I still have friends there, but I do.

Kyle: No, not impossible. Just unlikely.

Sally: I also had a couple of meetings to make some connections for fenmore’s and jcv. So, mystery solved.

Kyle: Hmm, maybe.

Sally: [ Sighs ] I know you’re not gonna listen to me, but you should stop blaming summer leaving on anyone else but the two of you. And your connection to tara locke and your son.

Moses: Hey, lily.

Lily: Moses! Hey!

Moses: Actually, I’m — I’m glad I ran into you. I-I need your advice.

Lily: Okay. Sounds serious. What’s is about, school or your internship?

Moses: Actually, girls. One girl in particular — faith newman.

Nikki: What’s wrong?

Victor: Nothing.

Nikki: But that look on your face. Oh, darling, please tell me you’re not gonna try to postpone our trip again.

Victor: [ Sighs ]

Nikki: Where were you?

Victor: Why the hell didn’t you tell me that ashland locke had moved in with our daughter?

Nikki: My god, he did already? I didn’t think it was gonna be so soon. I actually wasn’t sure if it was gonna happen at all, because i assumed that billy would object to it all on —

Victor: What the hell is useless billy boy abbott gonna do to prevent victoria from inviting ashland locke to live with her?

Nikki: Actually, I wasn’t hoping that billy would put a stop to it.

Victor: What in the world are you talking about?

Nikki: I’ve come around to victoria’s way of thinking on this.

Victor: Oh, for heaven’s sake. You’re in agreement with this domestic arrangement?

Nikki: Yes, I am.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Victoria: Okay, well, he’s finished his crackers. That’s a good sign.

Billy: It is a good sign. I’m sure seeing mom made him feel better, as well. And it gave you a perfect excuse to dodge my question.

Victoria: I was hoping that maybe you would let it go. [ Sighs ] But I can answer that question. [ Sighs ] What I have with ashland, it — it started off casually, but then my feelings just kept getting stronger and stronger for him. I mean, honestly, I’m as surprised as anyone about it. Yeah, you know, it’s different from any other relationship that I’ve ever had. There’s — there’s a lot of depth to it. Not to take away from what you and I had, of course.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] I get it. Ashland and I are nothing alike. It makes me sad to think that you, uh — you don’t have much time together… because I can tell — I don’t know — I can hear it in your voice that, uh, you’re serious about him.

Victoria: You know, maybe you are onto something with your question about what our relationship would be like if he was healthy. It might be more serious than it would have been otherwise, but we just don’t have that much time together. And…the urgency has made it pretty powerful.

Billy: If you’re happy… I’m happy.

Victoria: That means a lot to me.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Look at us. We’re all grown up.

Victoria: Yeah. [ Chuckling ] Oh.

Tara: What do have against sally?

Phyllis: Uh, [Chuckles] Well, it’s not what I have against sally. I mean, everybody in town knows she can’t be trusted. Honestly, I misjudged you and your intentions completely. But with sally, I mean, everyone knows it’s all about sally, and everybody else be damned. Um, I even think she had something to do with my daughter’s sudden departure to italy.

Tara: You don’t say.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Ever since she came into town, she was competitive and antagonistic toward summer.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Tara: I had no idea.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Well, do with that advice what you will. [ Chuckles ] I’ll get your coffee.

Sally: What was that about?

Tara: Nothing to worry about.

Sally: Well, you might want to start worrying about kyle, then.

Tara: What do you mean?

Sally: Well, he seems to think I had something to do with summer running off to italy.

Tara: Well, you did.

Sally: But I didn’t pull it off alone. So you might want to talk to your new man and tell him to back off, because we’re in this together. So, if one of us goes down, the other follows. Sweet pillows of softness!

[ Door closes ]

Kyle: [ Breathing heavily ] You okay? You look rattled.

Tara: Yeah. I’m fine. You don’t look like you’re in the best mood yourself.

Kyle: Ashland stopped by. Well, he never really stopped. He stormed in, furious that you filed for sole custody, made threats and accusations, then stormed out.

Tara: [ Sighing ] Oh. I’m sorry. I’ll deal with him.

Kyle: Yeah, what matters now is taking care of harrison. Ashland’s illness is public knowledge, and there’s a lot of speculation in the media that he’s dying. It’s inevitable that our son finds out.

Tara: We’ve done a good job protecting him. I even warned the parents at the playdate not to turn on the tv.

Kyle: Hmm.

Tara: And I do think the time has come for us to tell him ashland’s sick. But we need to do it the right way.

Kyle: I’m not even sure i know how to begin that conversation with him.

Tara: Well, we’ve done all the research for proceeding with a child his age, and I assume you’ve read those books that you bought on childhood grief.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Tara: We can do this.

Kyle: Yeah. When ashland was here, he again said that he wants to be the one to tell him. I can see his side of this.

Tara: That’s something to consider. Why don’t we go have a nice lunch and we can figure it out?

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Moses: Faith and I are friends — good friends — but i want to be more than that. Does that make sense?

Lily: Yeah, of course. I mean, faith is great. You know. And I know she’s been through a lot, but it seems like she’s kinda bounced back, right?

Moses: Yeah, and that’s one of the things I like about her. She’s so open about everything she’s been through. She’s nice, she’s smart, she laughs at my jokes. She really, really gets me.

Lily: That’s great. So, what’s the issue?

Moses: We talked about how we feel without really saying how we feel. Does that make sense?

Lily: Yeah, yeah, that makes sense.

Moses: Yeah, so, faith wants to go slow, which I respect that. But I don’t want to go so, so slow that I get stuck in the friend zone permanently.

Lily: Right. So, you want her to know that you’re not going anywhere but that you’re available and interested?

Moses: Right, while respecting her boundaries. How do I do that?

Lily: Well, I think you’re already doing that. You know, you’re respecting faith’s wishes. And to be honest, I mean, going slow isn’t the worst thing.

Moses: Yeah, but it’s not the best, either.

Lily: Well, I think, when a guy takes his time to get to know a woman, it’s very attractive and flattering.

Moses: Really?

Lily: Yeah, of course. And it shows that he’s interested, you know? And there’s things that you can do to show that you care about her without overstepping. You know, you could do little gestures or surprises. I mean, girls love that.

Moses: Okay, cool. You know what? That actually gives me an idea.

Lily: Oh, okay. Well, good luck. Keep me posted.

Moses: Yeah, thanks. I will.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Alright, see you later.

Moses: Bye, lily.

[ Cellphone dialing ]

Moses:Devon, it’s moses. Uh, give me a call when you can. I need your help.

Victoria: Hi. Did you get everything done that you needed to do?

Ashland: No, not even close. I’ve been looking for tara. [ Sighs ] She seems to be avoiding me.

Victoria: After what she pulled, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Ashland: I absolutely have to be the one to tell harrison about my illness. And now it seems like I might not be able to do that.

Victoria: What’s really upsetting is that tara agreed to joint custody, and now she’s filing this ridiculous petition. It’s — it’s disgusting. No judge is gonna take a dying man’s son away from him.

Ashland: Well, I wish it were that simple.

Victoria: Look, I know that kyle is the biological father, but you’ve been harrison’s dad all his life. And the court will take that into account.

Ashland: I spoke to my attorneys. And they think [Sighs] Tara’s argument that my condition and impending demise might be too… disturbing for harrison could be problematic if presented to a judge, especially given that video from the park.

Victoria: That’s not fair. That video footage was taken out of context. She cannot take your son away from you, and I will help you fight her. [ Inhales deeply ] But, you know, [Sighs] It might help your cause if you — if you accept the treatment.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Ashland: [ Sighs ] The situation is becoming unbearable!

[ Table vibrates ]

Ashland: [ Sighs ] [ Sighs ]

Victor: I honestly can’t believe that you are in favor of ashland locke moving in with our daughter. What about katie and johnny?

Nikki: Well, of course I’m concerned about them, but I’m sure that billy and victoria will work together to make the change as easy as possible for them.

Victor: Billy boy abbott can’t even take care of himself, much less do what’s best for our grandchildren.

Nikki: Well, what do you propose we do about it? You think that we can change victoria’s mind about a man? How has that worked all these years?

Victor: [ Sighs ] Let’s get this straight, okay? I’m not against victoria having an affair with this ashland locke. But to move into her house with our grandchildren? You know how confusing that is for them? Besides that, you and I know that he is ill. How long will he be around? Meanwhile, she falls in love with him, and then what? She’ll have her heart broken.

Nikki: I understand. But she is going into this with both eyes open. Think of it this way. By opening her heart and her home to him, she’s doing something even bigger than her historic business deal. She is selflessly helping a man say goodbye.

Victor: Oh, come on. [ Sighs ]

Victoria: Just ignore them.

Ashland: I can’t pretend they’re not there.

Victoria: Don’t do anything that you’ll regret later.

Ashland: I won’t regret this. You’ve been hiding from me.

Tara: I’m right in front of you, ashland. I’m not hiding.

Ashland: This custody maneuver is your cruelest, dirtiest move yet.

Tara: I’m trying to protect harrison.

Ashland: Protect him? F-from me?

Tara: You didn’t see the terror in his eyes after the incident at the park. And if you don’t think your condition is going to get worse, you’re either in deep denial or you’re a fool.

Victoria: Okay, hold on a second. Ashland is nobody’s fool. You know that.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: Clearly, you’re not very bright if you think you can rip the boy away from his father.

Kyle: Victoria, don’t forget I’m harrison’s biological father.

Victoria: Yes, kyle, thank you, I know that.

Kyle: And tara is just trying to protect her son.

Ashland: You don’t know a damn thing about what she’s doing! You don’t know! I’m his father!

Victoria: Ashland, hold it. Take it easy. Just breathe. Just breathe.

Tara: Listen to victoria.

Victoria: Are you okay?

Ashland: Okay, I-I’m fine. I’m fine.

Tara: You’re proving my point. You’re not well. Do you want to scar harrison for life as he watches you fight to breathe?

Ashland: [ Breathing heavily ] I’m fine. Now, listen, this is not over. Not by a long shot.

Victoria: Come on.

Ashland: I will not let you steal my son.

Victoria: We should go.

Ashland: [ Breathing heavily ]

Tara: He truly despises me. I’m scared about what he’s gonna do next.

Kyle: Ashland was just lashing out. He’ll calm down and let the courts handle the custody issue.

Tara: What if he comes after me.

Kyle: We will battle him together.

Tara: [ Sighs ] Thank you, kyle. I’m so grateful that you’re in my life.

Kyle: I’ll do anything I can to keep our son safe. That includes protecting you.

Tara: [ Sighs ]

Billy: Hey.

Lily: Hey.

Billy: I didn’t expect you back.

Lily: Yeah, I, uh, got some chicken soup for you guys. I got a spicy one for you and a plain one for johnny.

Billy: That sounds good. Appreciate that. Thank you.

Lily: Mm-hmm.

Billy: I know you’ve had a busy morning.

Lily: I did, yeah. I, uh, had my meeting, put out a couple fires at work, grabbed lunch, and I helped moses with his love life.

Billy: Wow. You really can do it all.

Lily: Yeah, you know. Just want to do a little small gesture to show you and johnny how much I care about you guys. How’s he feeling?

Billy: He’s better. I think he’s sleeping right now. The visit from victoria put his mind to rest, I think.

Lily: Nothing beats a little tlc from mom.

Billy: It was good. We were able to, uh, you know, clear up some things between the two of us in a positive way.

Lily: Really?

Billy: Yeah. Believe it or not, I think she’s actually met her match with ashland locke. It’s sad because inevitably they won’t get their happy ending, but I know that she will — she’ll treasure whatever time they have left.

Lily: Yeah, my heart really goes out to her.

Billy: It makes me realize how fortunate I am.

Lily: Why?

Billy: Because I got my soul mate sitting right there.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Nikki: I have the tickets to the concert. Summer and noah’s gifts are in this big bag. We are all set. Aw, we should have left an hour ago.

Victor: Oh, shouldn’t worry about that, okay? That’s why I have my own plane. We can leave any damn time we want to.

Nikki: Are you still upset about victoria?

Victor: Yeah, I am. Okay? I just don’t like the fact that ashland locke is moving in with her.

Nikki: We have to trust her. Let her live her life. You told her today how proud you are of her. So be proud of the strength we have instilled in her.

Victor: [ Inhales deeply ] [ Sighs ] Alright. You convinced me. Okay, my baby. We will take our airplane and we will fly across the atlantic ocean and we will visit summer and noah, and we will find out what we have instilled in the next newman generation.

Ashland: I let tara and her lawyers get under my skin. [ Inhales deeply ] I’ve been feeling a little emotional these days. [ Sighs ]

Victoria: You don’t have to apologize.

Ashland: You know, all of my life, I’ve dealt with stress, and I think I handled it well. But facing all these [Sighs] Challenges all at once is starting to get to me.

Victoria: It’s okay, ashland.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: You’re not 100%, and we all know that right now. [ Sighs ] You know, any lesser man wouldn’t even be able to get out of bed in the morning.

Ashland: [ Sighs ] You always know what to say to me. Thank you. [ Inhales deeply ] I am so [Sighs] Happy that we found each other and that you’re standing by my side through all of this.

Victoria: I feel the same way.

Tara: I can’t believe how easily you calm my frayed nerves. It reminds me of our time in new york. Things were easier then. I know it sounds strange. We were sneaking around and worried about getting caught, but it was easy, compared to all this.

Kyle: I remember it being careless and shady. We weren’t thinking about other people at all, just our next stolen moment together.

Tara: True. But it was more than that.

Kyle: Getting caught all these years later created this huge mess we’re in.

Tara: Maybe we should have run away back then like we always talked about…

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Tara: …Leaving ashland and new york, genoa city behind us.

Kyle: Yeah. I wonder where we’d be if we had taken the plunge back then.

Tara: Paris, no question.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ]

Tara: We’d be living on the avenue montaigne with harrison. I’d have grown my business. You’d be managing it.

Kyle: Oh.

Tara: Harrison would be bilingual. I mean, how cute would that be.

Kyle: [ Laughs ] “Oui, maman. Bonjour, papa.”

Kyle: [ Laughs ]

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Phyllis: Hey. Look at you two laughing and carrying on. This is super. Don’t let me interrupt.
