Curb Your Enthusiasm Character Profiles

Profiles of your favorites!

Larry David Larry is the star of the show as well as the writer. He plays himself, but nobody is really this clueless. He’s a comic genius. Larry the character is socially inept and very self-centered. He gets irritated by other people and situations (sometimes justified) but mostly ends up annoying other people with what he says and does. He gets himself into strange situations sometimes.

Jeff Greene Jeff is Larry’s best friend and lives nearby as well. Jeff is similar to Larry but is more jovial and gets along better with people. He’s also Larry’s manager. Jeff is married to a real shrew and has cheated on her. He and Larry are often getting into mishaps, but Larry is more the leader and Jeff is the follower.

Cheryl David Cheryl was Larry’s wife for many years on the show, but they got divorced. She thought she was too good for him because she was very pretty and better with people. Larry can be a real idiot sometimes, especially when it comes to people. Cheryl, like most of the people in this show, is very self-centered. Most of them are very spoiled and living in a rich-person’s Hollywood bubble. Cheryl was an actress but apparently not a very good one because she didn’t get too many parts.

Susie Greene Susie is Jeff’s long-suffering wife who has a loud mouth and is very outspoken. Larry and Jeff do a lot of crazy, stupid things and she is the one who usually is there to yell at them for it. Then again, it would be really hard to be married to someone like her.

Richard Lewis Like Larry, Richard plays a fictional version of himself. We don’t know which is real and which is fiction. Richard is very neurotic and worries a lot (most of his comedy shows are about that, too). He often has a beautiful woman on his arm, but he usually ends up screwing up the relationship in one way or another.

Marty Funkhouser He’s an old friend of Larry’s.

Leon Black Leon is a distant relative of Larry’s ex-girlfriend Loretta. When she and her family left Larry’s house, he stayed. He and Larry are good friends and often get into trouble together.

Sammi Greene Sammi is Jeff and Susie’s daughter. She’s now an adult.

Ted Danson He also plays a fictionalized version of himself. Ted in the show seems very laid back but often gets into fights with Larry. After he and his wife divorced, he dated Larry’s ex-wife, Cheryl.

Mary Steenburgen

Mary Steenburgen She also plays herself; she’s married to Ted Danson in real life. In the show, they were divorced. She briefly dated Larry.

Nat David Larry’s dad, who might be even more annoying than Larry.

Antoinette Spolar Larry’s previous receptionist, who kept a lot of his secrets…She was in the first four seasons.

Loretta Black Larry’s ex-girlfriend

Keysha Black She and Darryl are Loretta’s children.

Nan Funkhouser
She’s married to Marty, until they divorce.

Wanda Sykes She also plays herself. Whenever Larry talks to her, he often ends up saying the wrong thing about black people. Wanda often gets annoyed with Larry for what he says and does, especially with regards to black people.

Primetime DVD Review: “Supergirl: The Complete Fifth Season”

DVD Review!

Supergirl: The Complete Fifth Season Blu-ray cover
“Supergirl: The Complete Fifth Season (Blu-ray)” Review by Suzanne 9/3/20

I grew up reading “Supergirl” comics, as well as all the male DC comics like Superman, Batman, Justice League, The Flash, et al. I enjoyed the 1980’s movie they did about Supergirl as well. When the series first started, I wasn’t sure if I would like it because I didn’t like all of the changes they made, particularly with regard to her origin story. However, the show quickly won me over with great stories and good acting.  It’s hard to believe that they’re about to enter their 6th season. They ended with 19 episodes this season, due to the pandemic.  Let’s hope they can film the next one and debut in the spring.

The only thing I don’t like about the show is that the characters change so often. I really miss Wynn (at least he did return this year for a few episodes), Jimmy and Mon-El.  The stories are still very good, though. Lena and Kara’s friendship breaking up this year was horrible, but they got back to a good place.  I’m still not sure yet if I like this new post-Crisis universe with Lex pretending to be a good guy. It takes some getting used to.  They do like to keep us – and their characters – on our toes.

This DVD (Blu-ray) doesn’t have a lot of features. DVD’s, too, were affected by the pandemic. They just have the usual deleted scenes and gag reel, plus “The Best of DC TV’s Comic-Con Panels San Diego 2019.”  I’m surprised they couldn’t cobble together some kind of season-specific feature.

This would make a great gift for any superhero fan or any fan of fantasy/scifi/drama. I can’t wait until the show returns!

Primetime DVD Review: “Magnum P.I.: Season Two”

DVD Review!

Magnum P.I.: Season Two DVD cover

“Magnum P.I.: Season Two” Review by Suzanne 8/30/20

You can’t compare this to the original series, so you shouldn’t try. Tom Selleck is just too hard to replace.  However, it’s a good, solid drama in its own right. The stories are compelling.  There aren’t many private eye shows around on TV, so it’s good to have one.  Also, now that “Hawaii Five-0” has been canceled, this is the only show set in Hawaii as well. Having lived there for 3 years, I enjoy watching this show to see glimpses of places I recognize.  It’s also great to see Tim Kang (Detective Gordon Katsumoto) again…I loved him on “The Mentalist.”

The DVD is fun to watch.  It has many good features, including “Better Together: The Story of Magnum, P.I. Season Two”, deleted scenes, the Hawaii Five-0 Crossover episode, gag reel and a fun video diary from actor Stephen Hill (T.C.).  This DVD would make a great gift for any drama fan.

MORE INFORMATION:

Coming to your home screen this September is a  hit TV show from CBS Home Entertainment.

Action-packed crime drama Magnum P.I.: Season Two will be arriving on DVD this year on  September 1. Starring Jay Hernandez as Tom Magnum, an American hero and Navy SEAL returning from war who uses his military skills to become a private investigator in Oahu, Hawaii.

Magnum P.I.: Season Two
Street Date: September 1, 2020
Format: DVD
Description: MAGNUM P.I. is a modern take on the classic series centering on Thomas Magnum, a former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. A charming rogue, an American hero and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, Magnum lives in a guest cottage on Robin’s Nest, the luxurious estate where he works as a security consultant to supplement his P.I. business. The “majordomo” of the property is Juliet Higgins, a beautiful and commanding disavowed MI:6 agent whose second job is to keep Magnum in line, with the help of her two Dobermans. When Magnum needs back-up on a job, he turns to his trusted buddies and fellow POW survivors, Theodore “TC” Calvin, a former Marine chopper pilot who runs Island Hoppers, a helicopter tour business, and Orville “Rick” Wright, a former Marine door-gunner-turned-impresario of Oahu’s coolest nightclub and the most connected man on the island. Suspicious of Magnum’s casual attitude and presence at his crime scenes, Detective Gordon Katsumoto finds that he and Magnum are more alike than either of them care to admit. One of Magnum’s biggest supporters is Teuila “Kumu” Tuileta, the unofficial “House Mom” and cultural curator of Robin’s Nest. With keys to a vintage Ferrari in one hand, aviator sunglasses in the other, and an Old Düsseldorf longneck chilling in the fridge, Thomas Magnum is back on the case!

DVD Review!

Blue Bloods: The Tenth Season DVD cover

“Blue Bloods: The Tenth Season” Review by Suzanne 8/15/20

This is such a reliable and solid show. It’s basically a police soap opera.  The focus is on the family: the Reagans, who stand by each other, even when they’re fighting. Even though this is their 10th season, they’re still going strong.  The stories are always intriguing.  The audience for this show skews older and more conservative, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good show that anyone can enjoy.

The best feature is one that celebrates the 200th episode.  There are also deleted scenes “Dinner with the Reagans,” which they have on every DVD. This year, they had to do the dinner remotely. It was very interesting to watch. I think any fan of police shows would enjoy this. Even though it’s a soap opera, you shouldn’t feel too lost if you start watching with this DVD.

MORE INFORMATION:

Blue Bloods: The Tenth Season

Street Date: August 18, 2020

Format: DVD

Description: Blue Bloods is a drama about a multi-generational family of cops dedicated to New York City law enforcement. Frank Reagan is the New York Police Commissioner, and heads both the police force and the Reagan brood. He runs his department as diplomatically as he runs his family, even when dealing with the politics that plagued his unapologetically bold father, Henry, during his stint as Chief. A source of pride and concern for Frank is his eldest son, Danny, a seasoned detective, family man and Iraq War vet who on occasion uses dubious tactics to solve cases with his partner, Detective Maria Baez. The Reagan women in the family include Erin, a New York Assistant D.A. who also serves as the legal compass for her siblings and father, as well as a single parent to her teenage daughter, Nicky. Jamie is the youngest Reagan, a Harvard Law graduate and the family’s “golden boy.” Unable to deny the family tradition, Jamie decided to give up a lucrative future in law and follow in the family footsteps as a cop. He’s found a friend and ally in Eddie, his female partner who keeps him on his toes, and has very different reasons than the Reagans for joining the police force. After several years of working together, Jamie and Eddie finally succumbed to their strong feelings for one another and tied the knot.

Primetime DVD Review: “The Flash: The Complete Sixth Season”

DVD Review!

The Flash: The Complete Sixth Season DVD cover

“The Flash: The Complete Sixth Season” Review by Suzanne 8/30/20

This is my favorite superhero show, and that’s saying a lot because there are many of them (and I watch them all). Every season has been fantastic. The characters and relationships are very well-defined.  They sometimes kill off characters and sometimes bring them back (just like most shows nowadays). This year we got a little less of Cisco and a little more of the other characters.

The season was cut a little short, by 3 episodes, thanks to the coronavirus. That makes sense because it didn’t really feel like a typical “Flash” ending at the end of the year. It will be great to see what happens in Season 7 (especially to Iris and Ralph). The show never disappoints with good acting, drama, action and occasional humor.

This is a pretty good DVD collection. There is a special noir version of one of the episodes, and commentary. There is the usual gag reel and deleted scenes, and last year’s San Diego Comic Con panel. It’s worth having if you’re a fan of the show.
