Billy: Hey. Chelsea.

Chelsea: Hey.

Billy: Getting some fresh air? Just taking some time for yourself?

Chelsea: Exactly. Are you, um, meeting johnny and victoria?

Billy: I am. Yeah. Did they pass through?

Chelsea: They did. I saw them, but it was a coincidence, I swear.

Billy: I believe you.

Chelsea: I wish I hadn’t seen them.

Billy: Why do you say that?

Chelsea: Johnny seemed very shaken up to see me. Victoria sent him on his way and laid down the law.

Billy: Well, I’m not sure what she said, but I know where she stands on the subject of our son. And, you know, I have to say that I agree with her. We got to put johnny’s needs first and foremost.

Chelsea: Yeah, well, victoria’s way of doing that is basically forbidding me to see johnny ever again.

Billy: And she said that?

Chelsea: She pretty much said if I see him walking down the street, to turn around and walk in the other direction.

Billy: I’m not sure what to say to that.

Chelsea: You don’t have to say anything. Victoria’s decision is probably for the best.

Connor: Hi.

Johnny: Hey, connor.

Connor: Uh, I’m here with my dad.

Johnny: Yeah, I’m just waiting on my mom. So, I heard you know who my birth mom is.

Connor: Yeah. My mom told me everything.

Johnny: And just so you know, it’s not your fault at all. And I don’t mean to be mean, but I was pretty freaked out about it.

Connor: I know the feeling.

Johnny: Worst part is, I, uh, I think your mom’s following me.

Lily: Hello.

Abby: Hey! It’s good to see you guys.

Lily: You, too. Who are you going as tonight?

Abby: Oh, a woman who lost her enthusiasm halfway through dressing up.

Lily: [ Laughs ] I get it. You have to feel it.

Abby: Yeah, it was definitely more fun dressing up dominic earlier.

Devon: Is chance still with that new detective on the force? ‘Cause when I was over to see dominic’s costume, he said that the three of you had big plans tonight.

Abby: Yeah, we were going to, when we thought his stakeout out was canceled. But, of course, it’s back on. Happy halloween.

Lily: What’s going on?

Devon: [ Sighs ] I’m not sure. I’m a little worried about chance and abby, though.

Connor: My mom’s been acting different lately. Like really strange.

Adam: Hey, uh, listen, I have to go. I will — I’ll call you later, okay? Hey, johnny. What’s going on? Everything okay in here?

Connor: We’re fine.

Victoria: Hi, everybody. Happy halloween.

Johnny: What happened between you and chelsea in the park?

Billy: You know, I’m a little surprised you’re so on board with victoria’s demands when it comes to johnny.

Chelsea: It shouldn’t be that surprising. Victoria was right. I saw for myself today how upsetting my mere presence is for him. And it ripped my heart out. You know, you and victoria are not the only ones who want to put johnny’s happiness first. I do. I always have — since the day I gave him to you and victoria to raise.

Billy: Yeah, those were — those were complicated times.

Chelsea: I just regret after all these years, how I misjudged the situation. I never should have pushed to tell johnny the truth. And now I’ve opened this pandora’s box with both johnny and connor. I wish I could undo my mistake. But it can’t turn back the clock. Want your clothes to smell freshly

Lily: Why would you be worried about abby and chance?

Devon: I just get a feeling that she’s not very happy with how much he’s having to work lately. ‘Cause yesterday, he was gone a little bit of the night. And today, apparently, he’s gonna be gone all night.

Lily: Well, I mean, that’s the life of a police detective, isn’t it?

Devon: Yeah, it is. But still, I imagine that it still puts stress on their relationship and on their family life. Abby has a job where she can make up her own hours. Chance doesn’t have that. Even when I was over and we were taking pictures of dominic in his costume, he got called away, and I could tell that it bugged her.

Lily: Well, I mean, that’s not chance’s fault, but I guess I can understand abby’s reaction.

Devon: Yeah, I can, too. And I’m just worried that she’s resenting his commitment to being a cop, whether she can admit that or not.

Lily: Well, whatever it is, they’ll figure it out.

Devon: I hope they can. I care about the two of them a lot.

Lily: So, speaking of couples with career issues, I have some news.

Devon: What is it?

Lily: Billy is resigning from chancellor-winters.

Devon: You serious? Of all the times to leave, he’s going to choose now?

Billy: Look, this has all been a very challenging time, but you got to try not to let the guilt overwhelm you. Johnny and connor, they were going to find out the truth eventually. And ultimately, victoria and i both agreed that now was the right time to tell him. And there’s no way of knowing how he was going to react.

Chelsea: Victoria knew. She said from the start it was a mistake to tell johnny so soon, that he had been through enough trauma. I should have listened to her. I mean, she knows him better than I do, obviously. I’m not his mom.

[ Sighs ] But it’s okay. Really. I-I’m not going to try to be a part of johnny’s life anymore. I-I have learned my lesson. I am backing off. And seeing him today, it was — it was a real wake-up call. I have to start taking my cues from him, and connor. But, you know, I’m — I’m willing to be patient. Just ’cause johnny feels a certain way about things today doesn’t mean he’ll feel that way a few years from now. And maybe connor will get used to a certain dynamic. There’s still time.

Billy: I think that’s a very logical and — and reasonable thing to say. But emotions don’t always adhere to the same rules as logic and reason. I guess I just want to — I just want you to be careful not to set your expectations too high. Okay, of course, I hope you’re right, chelsea. Just don’t pin all your hopes and dreams on whether johnny is going to accept you and love you.

Chelsea: I won’T. All my hopes are officially grounded in cold, hard reality.

Billy: Look, I know that’s — it’s a little bit of a harsh thing to say, and this is not easy, but I think you just got to wait it out.

Chelsea: Yeah. Yeah, I-I’ll work through it. I will. I think I just got excited about the idea of johnny finding out who I was, so I was pushing for something that just wasn’t meant to be so soon. And you were right. I mean, you said I was probably lost. So I was reaching out to johnny to balance things, which, at the time, I totally disagreed with. But now I realize it’s the truth. My needs and longing were influencing my thinking. But, um… now I’m thinking really clearly. So I’m just ready to put it all behind me.

Billy: Well, that’s good. I think that’s probably best for everyone.

Chelsea: And, you know, please tell victoria, and johnny, um, they don’t have to worry. I’m not going to be popping up in places or intruding on their lives. I swear. I won’t ever bother them again.

Victoria: Chelsea and i worked everything out, so there’s nothing for you to worry about. And tonight’s halloween, so shouldn’t we be talking about the scariest movie that we’ve ever seen or who has the best costume so far? Yours is amazing, by the way.

Connor: Thanks.

Adam: She’s 100% right. Tonight is a big night, so we need to get focused.

Victoria: And I’m sure that grandma and grandpa are going to have a ton of candy waiting for you at the ranch.

Connor: I’m not going to the ranch tonight. I’m actually going to a sleepover at a friend’s house.

Victoria: Oh. Well, that sounds like a good time. I’ll have to tell you where grandpa’s secret mini bar candy stash is for the next time you have a chocolate craving.

Johnny: I want to know, too.

Adam: Wait a minute. He has a secret stash? Hey, would you guys mind if the adults talk in private for a minute?

Connor: Yeah.

Johnny: Yeah, we’re good.

Adam: Great.

Adam: Okay, what exactly went down with chelsea? Why is johnny upset?

Victoria: Because the woman doesn’t know when to quit.

When moderate to severe

ulcerative colitis persists…

Connor: The way they asked us if we’d be okay? It’s like our parents thought we were going to get into a fight or something.

Johnny: Yeah. I don’t want to fight you. I just want to hang out with you, as cousins or…brothers. I-it’s weird.

Connor: Super weird. It’s not your fault my mom wants to mess everything up. I just want things to go back to the way they were.

Johnny: Yeah, me, too. My mom wants me to go to katie’s halloween party parade or something, and that’s really the last thing I want to do.

Connor: That bites.

Johnny: Hey, what if I just hang out with you tonight? I could go to the sleepover.

Connor: I’m sure beckett and his parents would be cool with that. And it’s older kids, too, so you don’t have to wear a costume if you don’t want. You should definitely come.

Victoria: I assume that you’re aware that both johnny and connor now know that chelsea is johnny’s biological mother.

Adam: Yes, of course. It has been a seismic shift, and it’s caused a lot of distress for connor.

Victoria: For johnny, too, a lot of distress. Chelsea knows how upset he is, and she continues to push for some kind of a relationship with him. I finally had to draw the line and tell her to back off.

Adam: Hmm. Well, I can only imagine how she took that.

Victoria: Oh, you’d be surprised. I know I was. She actually didn’t argue with me at all.

Adam: Oh. Well, maybe not. But I’m sure she was deeply hurt by that.

Victoria: Possibly. I don’t mean to be insensitive.

Adam: Look, as a parent, I understand why you needed to take that stand. But at the same time, I’m hoping that you can at least try to see chelsea’s perspective in this.

Victoria: I’m sorry, but that’s not a possibility for me right now. Did she tell you the whole story about how she convinced billy and me to share this information with johnny? And why it had to be now?

Adam: Yes, we discussed it — after the fact. And I was upset that she did not include me in that decision.

Victoria: Her original claim was that she wanted to tell johnny the truth because he was going to eventually find out. But then later, she wanted more. She expected to have a relationship with my son. And yes, while I feel sympathy for her, that’s far outweighed by my concern for my son. And quite frankly, I think you would be more worried about how this is affecting connor. If he’s upset, shouldn’t he be yours and chelsea’s sole focus right now?

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Chelsea: [ Crying ]

Connor: Can johnny come with me to beckett’s house for the halloween sleepover party?

Adam: Um, I think that would actually be a great idea. I can text beckett’s mom right now. I mean, if you’re cool with that.

Johnny: Please, mom.

Victoria: You really do want to get out of your sister’s halloween parade, don’t you? Well, I want to say yes —

Johnny: Well, then just do. It’s pretty easy. Y-e-S.

Victoria: Okay. Very funny. I don’t need a spelling lesson. I just — I need a little more information, please.

Johnny: She always needs a little more information.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Who’s going to be bringing you home in the morning?

Adam: I can pick the boys up. It’s not a problem. I’ll bring them home.

Victoria: Alright, well, who’s the family hosting this party?

Adam: Uh, it’s the benfields. They’re on the board of walnut grove.

Victoria: Oh, yes, I know them. They’re a nice family. Okay. Sounds like fun. You can go.

Johnny: Good decision, mom. Thanks.

Connor: Let’s go text beckett.

Billy: Hey. Oh. You know, the two of you smiling at each other is definitely the scariest thing I’ll see all halloween. Okay everyone, our mission is complete balanced nutrition.

Lily: Look, deep down, i think that the company was more my dream than it was billy’S. And I think that he got caught up in my vision and, you know, wanted to support me. But I could tell that his heart wasn’t in it for a while. So he’s going to go pursue something else that he’s passionate about.

Devon: Well, okay. I understand where he’s coming from, but we just lost the coo, and now this is going to be the second one within weeks. And it’s all on the heels of what nate just put us through.

Lily: I know. Billy knows that, too. He offered to stay on longer, but I told him not to. I can take care of things on my own.

Devon: You don’t think that you could use his help during a time like this?

Lily: No, I think that having a coo that doesn’t want to be there is more of a hindrance.

Devon: Fair, sure. But even without him being enthusiastic about the job, you don’t think it’s worth it to have him stick around until you find his replacement?

Lily: Well, he’s more than a colleague to me, right? So I have to take that into consideration.

Devon: Meaning what? That you’d ask him to stay if he wasn’t your boyfriend?

Lily: I mean, come on, devon. Really? That’s a pointless hypothetical.

Devon: No, it’s not. It’s a real question I’m asking. I’ll turn it around on you. If he cares about you this much, wouldn’t he keep his mouth shut about wanting to resign until we’re past this crisis so he doesn’t leave too much on your plate?

Lily: I will have his support, just not at work.

Devon: I-I don’t see this being as easy as you think it’s going to be for you.

Lily: Look, I want what’s best for billy as much as I want what’s best for me. And, yeah, do I wish that he could have stayed on at chancellor-winters in full capacity? Yes, I do. Am I hurt that, you know, it didn’t work out? Of course I am. But honestly, I think it’s probably what’s best for our relationship.

Devon: Okay. I mean, that’s — that’s of course what’s most important is that you guys are happy, so…

Lily: Thank you. So, what’s going on with you? How’s amanda’s mom doing?

Devon: There’s been no change to her condition.

Lily: Is she coming home soon?

Devon: I don’t know.

Lily: Well, maybe you should go to virginia. Go be with her, you know? It could be good for you to get a trip away to sort through your emotions. You know, I can take care of things here.

Devon: Yeah, that might be a good idea. I don’t know if it’s the distance or what it’s been, but there’s been a little strain between us.

Lily: It’s definitely the distance. I mean, being that far apart for that long, I mean, it can wear on a relationship.

Devon: That’s probably what it is.

Lily: Oh, I got to meet billy in a few minutes. Do you want to join us?

Devon: No, no, not this time. Thank you, though. I’m gonna stick around and check on abby. I’m really ready to congratulate billy on his soul-searching journey yet.

Lily: Everything is going to be fine, okay? It’s all going to work out.

Devon: I hope so. I’d like to think that you’re right.

Lily: Alright, bye.

Devon: I’ll see you.

Lily: See you later.

Victoria: Adam and I were making a plan for the boys. And believe it or not, we agreed for once.

Adam: Yeah, it actually felt pretty good. Maybe you could take a page out of our playbook.

Billy: I won’t be taking any cues from you, thank you very much.

Victoria: Okay, I’m not gonna let you two ruin our almost-nice moment.

Billy: You’re right. This is about the kids. So please tell me, what are these plans that you put in place?

Victoria: Connor invited johnny to join him at a sleepover. So our son will be doing that instead of going to katie’s parade.

Billy: Well, that was very cool of connor. And I’m proud of johnny for not pushing him away.

Adam: Yeah, I think it’ll be good for both of them.

Billy: Yeah. I hope they have a good time.

Adam: Well, we should get going.

Billy: That’s a scary costume, by the way.

Adam: Mm-hmm. Alright, guys, ready to go?

Victoria: Love you, honey. Have fun.

Billy: See you, buddy. Be good, alright? So, I ran into chelsea at the park, after your run-in, apparently.

Victoria: Did she make a pitch for you to make a plea for her case to see johnny?

Billy: There was no plea of leniency. In fact, she was on board with the rules that you put into place.

Victoria: Oh, really? Well, I’m grateful for that.

Billy: Yeah. But I can’t shake the feeling that something is not right. There’s something about her demeanor that is…off.

Adam: I’ve been concerned about you lately. Are you sure everything’s alright?

Billy: I hope you’re taking care of yourself.

Adam: Nobody is wishing harm on you. Not sally. Not me.

Billy: Do you really believe that’s what’s best for you? ‘Cause I’m not sure.

Adam: When you came back to town, you were positive and looking towards the future. But now it seems like you’re backsliding. Since rey died, you’re not yourself.

Chloe: Billy starts turning on the abbott charm, and you lose perspective. You start to think everything means a little more than it does.

Billy: Uh, I’m sorry if I was giving off the wrong signals, but that was a mistake.

Chloe: What was I thinking? Ridiculous of me. Caring about you. Instead of saving you time and time again, I should have just let you crash and burn. Like you always do.

Victoria: The bottom line is that johnny and katie have had a really tough time lately. Now is not the time to do this.

Johnny: It’s my call, and I say I don’t ever want to talk about it again.

Connor: You were pregnant with johnny? And you gave him away as a baby? Just, like, handed him over to victoria and billy?

Adam: Burying the pain doesn’t make it go away.

Billy: Carrying around all this anxiety and fear not only affects your emotional well-being, but your entire body. That negativity will take over. Nope and I’m going to tell you about exciting medicare advantage plans that can provide broad coverage and still may save you money on monthly premiums and prescription drugs. With original medicare you are covered for hospital stays and doctor office visits but you have to meet a deductible for each, and then you’re still responsible for 20% of the cost. Next, let’s look at a medicare supplement plan. As you can see, they cover the same things as original medicare, and they also cover your medicare deductibles and coinsurance. But they often have higher monthly premiums and no prescription drug coverage. Now, let’s take a look at humana’s medicare advantage plans. With a humana medicare advantage plan, hospitals stays, doctor office visits and your original medicare deductibles are covered. And, of course, most humana medicare advantage plans include prescription drug coverage. With no copays or deductibles on tier 1 prescriptions, and zero dollars for routine vaccines, including shingles, at in-network retail pharmacies. In fact, in 2021, humana medicare advantage prescription drug plan members saved an estimated $9,600 on average on their prescription costs. Most humana medicare advantage plans have coverage for vision and hearing. And dental coverage that includes two free cleanings a year, plus dentures, crowns, fillings and more! Most humana medicare advantage plans include a silver sneakers fitness program at no extra cost. You get all of this for as low as a zero-dollar monthly plan premium in many areas; and your doctor and hospital may already be a part of humana’s large network. There is no obligation, so call the number on your screen right now to see if your doctor is in our network; to find out if you could save on your prescriptions, and to get our free decision guide. Humana, a more human way to healthcare.

“The young and the restless”

will continue. If you think all pads are exactly the same…

Abby: Hey.

Devon: Hey, you.

Abby: I’m sorry I didn’t get to chat with you and lily more before. You never know when there’s going to be a rush or a little fire to put out around here with a difficult customer or a staff member that doesn’t show up.

Devon: Please, this is your job. You’re working. I understand that. And lily had to go meet billy anyway. It’s fine.

Abby: So, what’s up with you? Are you handing out candy tonight?

Devon: No. There’s never that many trick-or-treaters at the penthouse. But I do have some time if you’d like to chat.

Abby: Yeah, sure.

Devon: Yeah? I have one condition, though. You have to tell me what’s really bugging you.

Abby: I’m not hiding it well, huh?

Devon: You never do.

Abby: This is just not the halloween I envisioned. And it sounds petty to even care that I don’t get to dress up in a matching costume with chance when he could potentially be saving lives.

Devon: Well, you’re allowed to feel the way you feel.

Abby: I’m just — I’m frustrated. And I think I’m the most frustrated with myself. I-I mean, why do I care so much that chance is so dedicated and focused on his job? I mean, who gets irked by that? It — it really makes me feel like a bad person.

Devon: Come on, abby. First of all, you know better than to ever call yourself a bad person, ’cause you’re not. Sometimes we want the people we care about to be a certain way, and it’s hurtful when they can’t be that.

Billy: I know I’m biased, but katie’s by far the cutest werewolf I’ve ever seen in my life.

Victoria: By far. Are you kidding me? She was so cute. She left all of those other kids in the dust.

Billy: That was a good costume choice.

Victoria: Thank you. Well, I mean, she definitely stood out amongst all of the princesses and ballerinas.

[ Both chuckle ]

Billy: I love it. You know, I just can’t help but get caught up in their sense of fantasy and wonder. It’s — seeing them dressed up, it’s great.

Victoria: It’s nice. Really is. It’s the one night where they can be whatever they want to be.

Billy: Yeah. Let their imagination run wild without reality setting in.

Victoria: I know that today is a tough day for you, because it was delia’s favorite holiday.

Billy: Can’t help it. The memories of her keep flooding back. The girl I lost. But spending this time with johnny and katie, it — it helps.

Victoria: I wish johnny could’ve gone to the parade with us, but I know. I know he’s at that age where he doesn’t want to do kid stuff. You know, he’s been through so much lately. I think that maybe this was a good distraction for him.

Billy: No, I agree. I think it was good. Plus, we know that we’re going to deal with teenage angst at a certain point.

Victoria: Oh, god. Well, I hope that they’ll behave better than we did when they were teenagers.

Billy: Yeah. Well, if today was any indication, I would say we’re — we’re looking pretty good. I mean, that was good of him, hanging out with connor that way, them still being friends, not blaming connor for what’s going on with chelsea. I think we raised a pretty good kid there.

Victoria: Yeah. I’m trying to take it as a sign that maybe he’s making a peace with all of this. I just wish that he would want to talk to me about it.

Billy: He’s going to handle it his way. And until we see some red flags, we got to let him do that.

Victoria: That’s definitely the hardest part — standing back and letting them fly on their own when all I want to do is swoop in, take him back to the nest, and protect him.

Lily: Hello.

Billy: Hi.

Lily: Hi.

Billy: Hey.

Lily: I, um, saw katie’s costume. She looked amazing.

Billy: She did, right?

Lily: I’d be lying if i didn’t say that on halloween, I miss when the twins were that age, and I would dress them the same. But then they kind of caught on pretty quickly. They hated it.

Victoria: I would have done the exact same thing.

Billy: Yeah, no, me, too. Temptation that I could not deny.

Victoria: You know, getting them dressed for halloween does take a lot of work, though. I’m sure you’re glad you don’t have to squeeze that in anymore, given that you must be so busy at chancellor-winters these days.

Lily: Yeah, definitely. I mean, you know how it is.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Victoria: Actually, yes, i do. Ah. Duty calls, so… I’ll catch up with you later.

Billy: Okay.

Victoria: Happy halloween.

Billy: See you. So, are you not mad at me anymore for going to nate behind your back?

Lily: No, let’s, uh — let’s move on, especially today. Um, how do you want to finish our halloween today? Do you want to go to noah’s club for a drink?

Billy: Yes, I want to do that.

Lily: Okay.

Chelsea: Is connor okay?

Adam: He’s fine. I just dropped him off at beckett’s house for the party with, um —

Chelsea: With who?

Adam: He went to the party with johnny.

Chelsea: Well, good. That’s — that’s great. It means they’re getting along. Johnny’s not holding it against him, the news about me.

Adam: Yeah. Seems like they’re still able to be friends.

Chelsea: Well, that makes me happy. So, if connor is fine, what are you doing here?

Adam: I, um, thought maybe we could go grab a drink. Figured you might want to see some people instead of being cooped up in here. Okay? Don’t give me the “I’m under the weather” excuse, because I’m really not buying it, alright? We can go right upstairs to noah’s club, and we can get a quick cocktail.

Chelsea: Sounds like a great idea. I’m just going to clean up a little bit, and I’ll meet you there.

Victoria: “Eager to hear your response. Can you meet tonight?”

Adam: It’s like you’re latching onto something to fill a void.

Billy: I’m not trying to be harsh, but you’re overstepping.

Adam: This isn’t just a mood. Something is seriously wrong.

Victoria: Your goal is to weasel your way into my son’s life. Even after billy obviously told you he wants nothing to do with you.

Johnny: You are not my mom.

Chloe: I have tried, every way I know how, to help you navigate your emotional ups and downs. Meanwhile, all I get in return is snark and putdowns.

Billy: I can have all this equipment moved wherever you want — so you can continue the podcast without me.

Adam: Chelsea, listen to yourself. You can’t use connor as a life preserver. He’s a kid. Fixing his mom is not his job.

Connor: Mom is different now. She’d probably be happier if she had kept johnny.

Billy: Are you waiting to ambush johnny?

Victoria: You lost the right to be a part of johnny when you signed over your rights as his mother.

Billy: You’re not hearing me. The news threw him.

Johnny: You are the reason my world is turning upside-down.

Victoria: I’m sorry this isn’t what you want to hear, but we will be supporting our son’s choice. So if you happen to see him, don’t say anything. Don’t approach him. Just walk away.

Chelsea: Just stop! Stop! Stop!

Allie: You want to go talk to your uncle?

Noah: Yeah, I think I’ll pass. Hey, I’ll play host to whoever walks in next.

Allie: What if it’s someone even worse?

Lily: Hi.

Billy: Ah, hi, there.

Noah: See, that’s a much better option.

Allie: I’m going to go get us a drink.

Noah: Hey, guys. Welcome to the glam club.

Billy: Yeah, thanks for having us. We were hoping to sit down and grab a drink.

Noah: You know, I think I got a spot for that.

Lily: Oh, okay. Thanks.

Billy: Adam.

Adam: Billy.

Lily: Hi. This is perfect. Thank you. By the way, this club is a perfect addition to the grand phoenix.

Noah: I couldn’t ask for a better landlord. You guys come by anytime, okay?

Lily: Thank you.

Billy: Thank you.

Lily: [ Sighs ] So, by the way, I told devon finally that you’re leaving chancellor-winters.

Billy: I hope he wasn’t too ticked off at me.

Lily: Well, I mean, he wasn’t happy, but that’s to be expected, so… what is it?

Billy: Uh, it’s chelsea. And the last person that she should be spending any time with.

Lily: I mean, they have a long history, and she seems fine.

Billy: Yeah. I hope you’re right.

Chelsea: Did connor say anything about me after I left earlier? I hate that my actions have pushed him away, but I — I’m — I am determined to prove to him how much I love him.

Adam: I know that you will. But don’t keep beating yourself up about this.

Chelsea: You’re right. Being hard on myself isn’t going to do anyone any good. I need to focus on the future. Um, I actually told billy earlier, I, uh — I recognize now that it was a mistake, pushing to tell johnny the truth that I’m his biological mother. But, you know, that’s — that’s a big step for me, recognizing my misstep. And now, um, I just need to focus on making things right.

Adam: That is a big step. And I hope that you continue to take steps forward. You know, chelsea, I — I only want the best for you. And I know that you have felt in the past that it didn’t work. But maybe… counseling is something that you should consider now. You’re in a different place. You’re in a better place.

Chelsea: You want me to see a therapist. You’re right. I need help. I have to end this cycle of anxiety and depression. Did you know, some ordinary cold medicines can raise your blood pressure?

Adam: I’m so grateful that you are willing to see a professional. Things are going to get better for you, and that’s only going to improve your relationship with connor. Speaking of connor, he, um, really likes this beckett kit. When you stopped by the coffeehouse to see his costume, you could see how excited he was to go to this party. You know, being invited, that was a big deal for him. I mean, you remember being that age and trying to fit in. I guess in the end, no matter what age we are, we all want the same thing. Love and acceptance. I’m kind of nervous for him. I don’t know why I would be, though. Connor’s such a, uh, lovable kid.

Connor: Mom is different now. She’d probably be happier if she had kept johnny.

Johnny: You are not my mom.

Adam: It’s like you’re latching onto something to fill a void.

Adam: The, uh, the party’s going to be a mixture of younger and older kids, and he brought some regular clothes so he could change out of his costume.

Connor: You were pregnant with johnny? And you gave him away as a baby?

Adam: He’s a kid. Fixing his mom is not his job.

Victoria: Your goal is to weasel your way into my son’s life.

Billy: I’m not trying to be harsh, but you’re overstepping.

Adam: This isn’t just a mood. Something is seriously wrong.

Chloe: Things can’t go on this way.

Chelsea: Excuse me. Um, I have to use the restroom. I’ll be right back.

Chelsea: [ Hyperventilating ]

Adam: You can’t use connor as a life preserver.

Billy: Are you waiting to ambush johnny?

Adam: Burying the pain doesn’t make it go away.

Chloe: I should have just let you crash and burn. Like you always do.

Victoria: Just walk away. Understood?

Chelsea: Please. I can’t take it anymore. I just need the pain to go away.

Next week on “the young and the restless”…

Billy: I’m worried about chelsea. Not sure if you saw the way she bolted out of here.

Lily: No, I-I didn’t see, ’cause I was busy enjoying our dance, but I guess you were watching chelsea.

Billy: Well, she’s a mess.

Abby: What about the stakeout?

Chance: Oh, we, uh — we finished early.

Abby: And you chose to come here instead of home?

Victoria: You’re now the new ceo of newman media.

Devon: You’ve got to be kidding me.

Victoria: Oh, hey.

Nikki: Hey.

Victoria: I was just you.

Nikki: About nate, by any chance?

Victoria: How did you know?

Nikki: I just saw him out by the elevators, and when I said hello, he seemed so preoccupied, he barely even realized I was there.

Victoria: Yes, well, he does have a lot on his mind. I just offered him the ceo position at newman media.

Nikki: What?

Victoria: Well, he’s taking some time to consider it, but i hope to hear back from him soon.

Nikki: What about chancellor-winters? The two of you had a deal.

Victoria: Yes, I know. And I don’t really want to get into the gory details, but suffice it to say, the ipo is on hold and nate’s out of a job.

Nikki: Things blew up with his family, didn’t they? They must have figured out that he was working with you to help newman become the majority shareholder.

Victoria: Yes, they are aware that he was feeding information to a ceo and they know what his end game was, but nate refused to name names, so they don’t know that it was me.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Well, that’s why he was acting this way. He’s probably feeling the consequences of his actions. I mean, that can’t be easy. But he made his choice.

Victoria: And I made mine.

Nikki: Yes. So it would seem.

Victoria: You know, nate could have exposed me at any time, but he chose not to do that kind of loyalty is very rare these days.

Nikki: So, as his reward, you’re going to bring him on here in a top-level executive position?

Victoria: I just think that he deserves a fresh start. And, yes, I know. I know that he doesn’t have a lot of business experience, but his work at chancellor-winters involved entertainment. It involved media. And I think that he is up for the challenge.

Nikki: Well, it sounds like you have a lot of faith in him.

Victoria: Yes, nate is very sharp. He’s an analytical thinker. He doesn’t always go for the obvious answer. He and I — we have an excellent rapport, and I think he’d be a great fit.

Nikki: What if he turns you down?

Victoria: Well, then I have a whole list of other candidates, all of whom would do a much better job than the current head of newman media.

Nikki: Mm. So sally’s out either way.

Victoria: Her time with us is coming to an end.

Sally: So, “we need to talk” usually means someone’s about to tell you something that you’re not gonna like, especially when they insist on moving to a more private area to have the conversation. Feel free to tell me that I’m wrong ’cause that does happen on rare occasions.

Nick: I wish I could. Uh, I have some difficult news to tell you.

Sally: [ Breathes deeply ] I kind of figured.

Nick: So, uh… I guess, uh…

[ Exhales sharply ]

Sally: Just hit me.

Nick: Okay. Uh, newman enterprises has decided to replace you and chloe at newman media.

Kyle: Alright, you two, smile.

Summer: Smile!

Kyle: [ Chuckles ] Ahh. Alright, one more, but silly faces this time.

[ Laughter ] Oh, that’s awesome.

Summer: Here, give me a high five. Yes!

Kyle: Oh, you two are the cutest.

Summer: [ Laughs ] Ever since linda brought you here, I have not been able to stop smiling.

Kyle: Me neither. We’re so happy you’re here. We missed you, harrison.

Summer: So much.

Kyle: And we have a ton of fun things planned for the next couple days — boat rides, snorkeling.

Summer: That’s right, and a little hike in the rainforest. Do you know what a rainforest is?

Harrison: Huh-unh.

Summer: It’s this magical place with tons of trees, like we read about in your fairy tales. And it also has all of these animals that you can’t find anyplace else in the world.

Kyle: Wait till you see the birds. They come in every color. It’s totally awesome.

Summer: I have a feeling you’re gonna to want to take one home as a pet, but I don’t think that grandpa jack would like that very much.

Kyle: That’s okay. It’ll make it even more special since we can only visit them here. And I’ll take tons of photos.

Summer: And I’m gonna take tons of photos of the three of us so we can remember every special moment on this vacation.

Kyle: Mm-hmm. First things first. Time to hit that beach that’s right outside our door.

Summer: Ooh! Are you ready?

Harrison: Yeah!

Kyle: Let’s do it!

Summer: Yes!

[ Laughs ]

Kyle: Grab this.

Summer: Alright.

Kyle: Come on.

Summer: Let’s go.

Chelsea: Hey. Chloe, it’s me. Um, I-I hope I’m not catching you at a bad time. I was seeing if you wanted to get together. Oh. Oh, you’re away with the kids. That’s — I — yeah, I didn’t know. That’s great. No, no, no. No. Go. Go. Have fun. Okay. Bye.

[ Sighs ]

Kyle: What? A little rain? It’s a monsoon out there.

Summer: Oh, my god, I think you’re exaggerating just a wee bit.

Kyle: Just as we walk out to the beach, the skies open up. Figures, right?

Summer: Ah, well, we are in the tropics. It showers like this all the time. I’m sure it’ll clear up soon and we can get back out there and jump in the ocean and bury you in the sand and build a castle on top.

Kyle: Ooh, I don’t know. That’s a pretty ambitious plan.

[ Laughter ]

Summer: In the meantime, there’s plenty we can do right here in the villa. Right?

Kyle: Sure is. Um…what should we do first? You want to play cards or read each other a story?

Summer: I have a much better idea.

Kyle: Oh! Ohh. I think I know what you’re talking about. Summer and I put together a little surprise for you, and we were gonna give it to you later, but we think now is the perfect time.

Summer: It sure is.

Kyle: Oh. And even though we’re not in genoa city, that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate…halloween!

Summer: Ooh! You know what to say, right?

Harrison: Trick or treat!

Summer: [ Laughs ] Exactly.

Kyle: There you go, buddy. It’s just like the one you would have gotten at home.

Summer: And look — it’s not just candy in there. There’s toys, too.

Kyle: Ooh. Are those…?

Summer: Vampires teeth. Num, num, num, num, num! I’m gonna eat you up!

[ Laughter ] And look — there’s stickers and bubbles.

Kyle: Ooh, I bet you want to show all this stuff to zippy the fox.

Harrison: I love these things.

Kyle: I know. Why don’t you go show zippy the fox and then we’ll have a snack and then afterwards you canso candy when we play games.

Harrison: Yay.

Kyle: Yeah? Go show him.

Summer: Go show him.

Kyle: Go show him.

Summer: Ahh. I think your idea was a hit.

Kyle: Our idea. Yeah. I think he liked it.

Summer: [ Sighs ] Next year he can dress up and we’ll take him trick-or-treating around the neighborhood.

Kyle: Thank you.

Summer: For what?

Kyle: Making this even more perfect. I know it’s not the honeymoon most people would want, but it’s exactly the one for us.

Nikki: I’ve always been fond of nate. So, if you think he’s the right person for the job, I will defer to you.

Victoria: I appreciate that.

Nikki: I’m sure your father will be pleased, as well. He’s never been a fan of sally’S.

Victoria: Well, I’m gonna touch base with dad, but I’m confident he’ll be on board for the change.

Nikki: And what about nicholas? He has always been a bit of an advocate for her in the past.

Victoria: Mm-hmm, if that’s what you want to call it.

Nikki: I hope this won’t become a point of contention between you two.

Victoria: When I told nicholas, he fought me on it. But ultimately, he’s agreed with my decision. As a matter of fact, he’s with her right now breaking the news.

Nikki: Whose idea was that?

Victoria: His. It would have been much quicker and cleaner if I’d handled it, but I suppose I understand why he wanted to do it personally.

Nikki: Really? Why?

Victoria: Because — how shall I put this? — I believe that their relationship is no longer strictly professional.

Nikki: What? Are you kidding me? Nicholas and sally? How long has this been going on?

Victoria: Seems pretty recent.

Nikki: Please tell me it’s not serious.

Victoria: I have no clue, mother.

Nikki: Well, I’m sure you have asked.

Victoria: Whenever I’ve brought it up, he’s danced around the subject. But he has not denied that there’s a connection, so that makes me think that my suspicions are right on target.

Nikki: Of all the women out there…

Victoria: I know.

Nikki: Did he not stop to think about how complicated it would be to be involved with sally spectra?

Victoria: Mm. Because of summer, you mean.

Nikki: Well, that should have been enough to make him think twice, but there are so many reasons. Her history with adam. Her history with jack. She does get around.

Victoria: I don’t know if his attraction is in spite of her checkered past or because of it. And I’m not gonna speculate. I just hope that my coo is carrying out the mission that he volunteered for.

Nikki: Let’s just hope that she is mature enough to take this news with a modicum of grace because I would hate to see her make things more difficult for nicholas than they already are.

Sally: I just need a second.

Nick: Yeah. Take as long as you want. I’m not going anywhere.

Sally: I just have one question.

Nick: Ask me anything.

Sally: Is this coming from victoria? Or you?

Nick: This is a management decision. But off the record, obviously, this is victoria’s call.

Sally: So I suppose there’d be no point in asking to speak with her?

Nick: No. She’s already got somebody in mind to take your position.

Sally: [ Sighs heavily ]

[ Scoffs ] I mean, I-I shouldn’t be so stunned. I know that she was willing to give me a shot, but she’s never been enthusiastic about me being in charge of newman media. You know, when I screwed up at the marketing summit, I thought maybe my apology and everything I’d done since then had smoothed things over, but I guess I’ve just been living on borrowed time.

Nick: I was really hoping this wouldn’t happen, but vick’s got a game plan, and when she makes up her mind about something, it’s almost impossible to get her to change it. But I tried many times.

Victoria: You did?

Nick: Yeah, sally. I’m really opposed to this. I fought like hell for you.

Sally: Well, that means more than you could possibly know.

Nick: I feel terrible about this. I can only imagine what you’re going through.

Sally: I was told that it was a trial run, no guarantees.

Nick: Still, you got to be disappointed.

Sally: Well, yeah, I am. But I will be okay.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Yeah?

Sally: Yeah. I mean, this is how the corporate world works. I can take it. My — my whole life, I’ve had to roll with the punches, and this is nothing compared to some of the stuff I’ve had to deal with.

Nick: That’s a good way to look at it.

Sally: And, plus, I’m proud of what I achieved. I did a damn good job, and i surpassed a lot of people’s expectations.

Nick: Hell, yeah, you did.

Sally: I mean, I was a ceo of a media company. I had the actual title. That is on my résumé, and nobody can take that away from me.

Nick: No, they can’T.

Sally: [ Sighs ] But it just kills me that chloe is being cut loose, too. She shouldn’t be fired just because I’m the one that hired her.

Nick: Yeah, she was an excellent second in command. I’m really sorry that I couldn’t be more persuasive with my sister. Um, I’ll do anything I can to get you a new position, and you can obviously take chloe along with you, if that’s what you’d like.

Sally: Well, thanks, nick. I really appreciate that, but I — I’ll figure things out. You shouldn’t feel responsible at all for what happened or like you owe me anything.

Nick: That’s not what I’m offering. I know this is coming at a bad time for you emotionally. And, uh…

Sally: [ Sighs heavily ]

Nick: That’s a whole other conversation.

Sally: Yeah. I will figure that out, too. I-I promise.

Victoria: I’m sure that nicholas can handle sally, however she reacts to being let go. I mean, it’s not like she can blow up at him. It wasn’t his call. And it’s not like he can change anything for her.

Nikki: Sounds like you’ve thought this through.

Victoria: As for the other aspects, of course I have my own opinion, but nicholas is a grown man. He can see whomever he wants. And in meantime, I have a company to run and I have my own personal life to think about.

Nikki: I assume you’re referring to the situation between johnny and chelsea. How is he doing?

Victoria: It’s been a real struggle, mom. I mean, he’s still trying to process the fact that she’s his biological mother. But at least I think he’s starting to come to terms with things.

Nikki: And what does he say about her?

Victoria: Not much. He doesn’t want to talk about her. He doesn’t want to see her, and I can’t blame him [Sighs] Because I feel the exact same way.

Chelsea: [ Breathes deeply ]

Phyllis: Hey, chelsea. How you doing? It’s been a while for us.

Chelsea: Yes. Good. I’m good. How are you?

Phyllis: I’m so great.

[ Sighs ] I have to see diane jenkins’ face every single day, but besides that, terrific. I guess that’s what happens, you know, when your kids are married and you work in the same office. Wait. You left fenmore’S. And you turned down the marchetti gig. I know why.

Chelsea: You do?

Phyllis: Yeah. You had to get out. I understand. It’s for the best.

Chelsea: Best for me or best for everybody else because I’m gone? What exactly do you mean by that, phyllis?

Kyle: Ugh, you beat us twice, harrison. Twice!

Summer: Ugh! The humiliation. We may never live it down.

Kyle: Well, it’s a good thing the sun came out so we can put that game away.

Summer: Was that a yawn that I just saw?

Kyle: Uh-oh. You tired, buddy? You want to take a little snooze? No? I get it. Nap time can wait. You want to play in that big blue ocean and on the sand. You know what? Since it just rained, we might see something extra special.

Summer: Ooh. A rainbow. They’re huge down here.

Kyle: Let’s go see if we can find one.

Summer: Yeah. Let’s go.

Kyle: Yeah. Come on. I’ll grab the toys. Let’s go.

Summer: Whoo!

Victoria: Okay, well, you know, I need to take off a little bit early. I’m meeting up with johnny and we’re gonna grab a bite to eat and then we’re heading to walnut grove to watch katie in her halloween parade.

Nikki: Oh, well, that sounds nice. Little bit of fun and normalcy for a change.

Victoria: Normalcy? What is that?

[ Both laugh ]

Nikki: What are your plans for after the parade?

Victoria: Um, well, katie’s been invited over to her best friend’s house, so johnny and i will go home, and I’m gonna unplug from work. We’re just gonna spend a little one-on-one time together.

Nikki: Are you going to talk about chelsea?

Victoria: If he wants to, then, yeah, we will. But he’s been pretty emphatic about shutting that door, and I’m definitely not gonna force anything.

Nikki: I think that’s a good idea.

Victoria: My goal is to just make him feel like he’s safe and secure and that he knows that I’m always gonna be there for him and that I’m his mother.

Nikki: Darling, I’m sure he knows that deep down. I’m just sorry that you even have to make a point of it.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Well, the way that chelsea has handled things has been less than ideal. There’s been a lot of damage done, and I have to be the one to repair it.

Nikki: Well, I hate the toll this is taking on you and my grandson. If you need anything, your family is here for you.

Victoria: Thank you, mom. You know, billy and I — we’re doing everything that we can for johnny, but it’s good to know that we have everybody around us to love and support us. It makes all the difference in the world.

Nikki: Oh, of course. I love you, baby.

Victoria: Thank you.

Phyllis: You leaving marchetti — it’s their loss, not yours. I think you’re really good at your job. I think you have a good eye. If you’re not happy, then you’re just not happy listen. It doesn’t matter if it looks like a great opportunity to everyone else in the world. If it’s not right for you, it’s not right. It’s like me selling my hotel. I mean, everything that I worked for, selling it all to work with my daughter — it’s gratifying.

Chelsea: That’s wonderful.

Phyllis: Yeah. There’s nothing like working side by side with your child.

Chelsea: I bet, phyllis.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Chelsea: I bet. Well… um, as nice as it’s been catching up, uh, I have a bunch of errands to run. And I’m sure with your new busy job, you’ve got a full plate.

Phyllis: Oh, the only thing i have on my plate is the take-out I’m about to get.

Chelsea: Well, don’t let me keep you.

Phyllis: Those podcasts that you were doing with billy — those were really good. I mean, he was kind of all over the place, but you were the voice of reason. You were great, funny, really engaging.

Chelsea: Oh, that’s — thank you.

Phyllis: Yeah. Um, you complemented each other, I think. You know? They seemed like they’d be a success. Why did you stop doing them?

Chelsea: You know, I think it was just time to move on from that, as well.

Phyllis: You’re bouncing around a lot from job to job, chelsea. I think you’re gonna find something that’s the right fit very soon.

Chelsea: Thanks, phyllis. Here’s hoping. Happy halloween.

Phyllis: Yeah, happy halloween. This is gloria.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Even though some

things are far away,

Kyle: Harrison asleep?

Summer: Yeah, he zonked out the second his head hit the pillow. Jumping over those waves must have really tuckered the little guy out.

Kyle: He’s had a long day. Jet took off a 7:00 A.M., Five-hour flight, the car ride here from the airport. That’s a lot of travel for anyone.

Summer: Yeah. Hopefully he’ll be rested up by tomorrow.

Kyle: Oh, knowing our boy, he’ll be raring to go at 5:00 A.M.

Summer: [ Chuckles ] I would expect nothing less.

Kyle: So, what’s next on our agenda?

Summer: I have an idea or two.

Kyle: Oh. I like where your head is at. We should — we should have some naptime for ourselves.

Summer: Yeah, and I’m so tired that I don’t even think I’m gonna bother putting my pajamas on.

Kyle: Oh, how efficient of you. We should make the most out of this alone time.

Summer: Although I do like it when you take things slowly.

Kyle: Mm. Your wish is my command.

Summer: Oh, yeah? ‘Cause I could — I could come up with a list of things that I’d like you to do, like… a massage. I’ve got this…

Kyle: Oh.

Summer: …Knot in between my shoulders.

Kyle: Oh. Okay.

Summer: Mmm.

Kyle: Is that the spot?

Summer: It’s a little lower.

Kyle: Oh.

Summer: [ Inhales deeply ]

Kyle: [ Smooches ]

Summer: Yeah. Right there.

Kyle: Mmm.

Harrison: Zippy woke me up!

Kyle: Ohh, no. Bad zippy! Ugh!

Summer: [ Laughs ] Come up here with us.

Harrison: Whee!

Summer: [ Chuckles ]

Kyle: Come here. Ohh, yes!

Chelsea: Johnny. Hi. How are you?

Victoria: What’s going on here?

Nick: Is vick around?

Nikki: Oh, she left early. You just missed her.

Nick: Do you know where I was just now?

Nikki: Your sister filled me in.

Nick: Well, I just came by to tell her I’ve done what she’s asked me to do. But I do not support this plan. I think firing sally is a mistake, full stop.

Nikki: Mm.

Nick: You’re not saying anything. You must be on victoria’s side on this.

Nikki: I don’t take sides, nicholas. Whether we agree or disagree, we’re all on the same team.

Nick: But do you condone what she’s doing, firing sally and giving nate her job?

Nikki: Well, I found it to be a bit abrupt. But it is her decision to make. And I am not as personally invested as you are.

Nick: And that means what?

Nikki: Your association with sally outside of work. Or are you going to tell me that there isn’t one?

Nick: [ Sighs, chuckles ] Well, I’m guessing victoria shared her thoughts about that with you. She shouldn’t have done that because it has nothing to do with this and, frankly, it’s none of her business.

Nikki: Well, normally it wouldn’t be my business, either, but this isn’t just any woman we’re talking about.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Chuckles ]

[ Laughing ]

Sally: What more do I have to do to prove myself? Thank you.

[ Sighs heavily ]

[ Sighing ] Hey, chloe. I know you’re out of town and you are officially unreachable.

[ Sighs ] I’m sorry for busting in on your family time, but you know that thing that we are always afraid is going to happen? Well, it happened. Call me.

[ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Hey, sally.

[ Clears throat ]

Sally: Hey yourself.

Phyllis: Bad day?

Sally: Why would you presume anything’s wrong?

Phyllis: I overheard your conversation just now. You do look like somebody who got rocks instead of candy in your trick-or-treat bag, so… problems at newman media? Ah, that’s too bad.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Hey! It’s me! Your dry skin!

Summer: So what do you think about costa rica so far? Are you having fun?

Harrison: Can we live here?

Kyle: Oh, I think it’s pretty great, too, but it’s not home, buddy.

Summer: Yeah, there’s no grandpa jack or dee dee or mrs. Martinez.

Kyle: I think you’ll miss her cookies, not to mention all your friends. And it’s gonna be winter in genoa city soon, so we’ll be able to build a snowmen, and i can teach you how to ice skate.

Summer: Ooh, that’s so fun.

Kyle: Ooh, there’s really nothing better. Not even a forest full of critters or a beautiful beach.

Summer: Yeah, your dad is right.

Harrison: Like zippy!

Summer: Yeah, like zippy.

Kyle: Just like zippy, yeah.

Summer: Your dad’s right. We can always visit here, but you wouldn’t really want to live here, would you?

Harrison: As long as we’re together forever.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ] Summer and I want the exact same thing.

Harrison: [ Roars ]

[ Laughter ]

Phyllis: Is this seat taken?

Sally: You know, why crowd yourself, phyllis? Why don’t you take that seat over there? Or better yet, actually, at A…

Phyllis: I’ll take that as a “yes.”

Sally: …Table ’cause there’s more elbow room.

Phyllis: Okay. We’ll talk while I wait for my food.

Sally: Must we?

Phyllis: Can I buy you a drink? Want one of those spicy martinis like they have?

Sally: I think I’ll pass.

Phyllis: Oh. More of a shot and beer girl? Maybe a little tequila? Or a sweet drink that has the umbrella in it and those big pineapple chunks that you could eat for a meal?

Sally: You know, what is your problem?

Phyllis: Excuse me?

Sally: Just give it a rest. It’s the middle of the day.

Phyllis: I wanted to buy you a drink. I thought you could use one.

Sally: I don’t need a damn drink, okay? I’m good.

Phyllis: Well, I disagree with that. I heard you. You sounded upset when you were talking to chloe and leaving a message for her, whatever you were doing. I mean, I don’t know. And can I guess? Maybe you’re having problems at work? Hey, it happens to the best of us, and if it’s any consolation, we’ve all gone through it.

Sally: Mm. Why? ‘Cause every business comes with its own set of challen–

Phyllis: Can I be frank? I’m not surprised you’re in trouble.

Sally: [ Scoffs ]

Nikki: We can’t help who we’re drawn to, but we can control what we do with those feelings.

Nick: Mom, please. I’m just — I’m not in the mood for a lecture.

Nikki: No, no lecture. I am just trying to understand. Did you not think about how summer would react?

Nick: Yeah, I know. Sally’s not her favorite person. And, yes, we have talked about it.

Nikki: Well, I’m sure in addition to her distaste for sally that she was concerned about the ramifications about adam. And, frankly, so am I. Your father’s not gonna be happy about this, either, the way he detests her.

Nick: That’s his problem.

Nikki: You know, what is it that you and adam become interested in the same women time and time again? I don’t understand it. And did you not stop to think that this would give adam a reason to resent you? Or did you think about that and you just didn’t care?

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Johnny: Yeah, I’d like to know that, too. Why are you here? Were you, like, following me?

Chelsea: No, no. Absolutely not. I-I happened to be here when you showed up. It was nothing I had planned. I want to go.

Victoria: Meet me at crimson lights, alright? And leave your phone on. I’ll be there shortly. I need to talk to chelsea alone. Nick: I have no desire to go out of my way to create conflict with adam, but I’m gonna live my life without worrying about his feelings. And why shouldn’t I? It’s not like he worries about anyone else’S.

Nikki: I would think you would hold yourself to a higher standard than, “oh, if it’s okay for somebody else, it’s okay for me.”

Nick: I didn’t mean it like that. You’re right. I was just venting.

Nikki: I see.

Nick: I’m not worried about adam, alright? My concern is for sally. She doesn’t deserve to be let go. Both she and chloe have done an amazing job. Now, if vick wants to bring nate on because she values his loyalty to her, fine. Why does it have to come at sally’s expense? Sally has done nothing but work her tail off and prove her worth around here. Both she and chloe deserve more than this. And, frankly, so does newman media.

Nikki: So, you have concerns about nate taking over that division.

Nick: Vick’s objection to sally this whole time has been her lack of experience. Well, guess what. Nate has even less. If we put him in charge, is that in the best interests of the company? I can’t get vick to think along these lines. She’s dug her heels in. There isn’t anything I can do to get her to change her mind.

Nikki: I know you’re upset, but it should give you some comfort to know that sally doesn’t let anything hold her back. She’s a survivor. So, no matter what happens with this situation, she will land on her feet.

Sally: My track record speaks for itself.

Phyllis: Well, it’s a short track, and let’s be honest — it was kind of teed up for you before you got there.

Sally: Okay, whatever.

Phyllis: You weren’t qualified for the job, sally. You just weren’T. And now you’re having problems. And you only got it because your ex-boyfriend got it for you. And look how that turned out.

Sally: You know what, phyllis? Why don’t you get out of my face before things get ugly?

Phyllis: Well [Sighs] I’m just stating the facts. I mean, you were with adam, and then that all blew up in your face. And here you sit alone. I mean, you just don’t have anybody to blame but yourself.

Sally: Oh, there is so much i could say right now, and it would be so gratifying. But I won’T.

Phyllis: Okay, well, say it. I mean, I could hear anything. Don’t leave me hanging.

Sally: Uh, nope, that’s exactly what I’m gonna do because, unlike you, I am a class act who knows when to shut up and walk away.

Chelsea: Victoria, I swear i am telling you the truth. It was not some kind of ambush.

Victoria: I realize that. You have no idea where johnny and I were meeting. You and I haven’t spoken about him recently. Billy’s been our intermediary. But I think that it’s time that I’m very clear with you.

Chelsea: I’m listening.

Victoria: You know, I’ll always be grateful to you for bringing johnny into the world. But as you just saw, he’s having a really hard time coping with the news that you’re his biological mother. You need to stop exacerbating his distress and his confusion.

Chelsea: I would never want to cause that boy any pain. I just wanted him to know the truth, to understand who I am to him.

Victoria: Yes, well, unfortunately, you didn’t leave it at that. You keep pushing for more of a relationship with him. Billy and I told you that it would be up to johnny to decide how he wanted to proceed, and he’s made his choice very clear. Look, I’m really sorry if this is not what you want to hear, but we’re gonna be supporting our son’s choice. So, if you happen to run into him again, please don’t say anything to him. Don’t approach him. Just walk away. Understood? Thank you for not making this any harder than it needs to be. It’s reassuring that we can all be on the same page.

Sally calls Chloe and leaves a message telling Chloe that what they were afraid would happen has happened.

Victoria tells Nikki that she has offered Nate the job of CEO of Newman Media and he is taking time to think about the offer. Victoria also tells Nikki that she thinks Nick and Sally are dating. Nikki isn’t happy about that, and later talks to Nick about the situation. Nikki thinks that Nick’s relationship with Sally will antagonize Adam and also anger Summer and Victor. Nick tells Nikki that his relationship with Sally is nobody’s business but his own.

Harrison arrives in Costa Rica for the last few days of Kyle and Summer’s honeymoon. Chelsea sees Johnny at Chancellor Park and when Victoria arrives she tells Johnny to wait for her at Crimson Lights. Billy: Let’s talk out here.

Lily: Okay, but I don’t have a lot of time. I told jill that I would keep her up to date on what’s happening with the ipo.

Billy: And we’re still not telling her that I’m stepping down as coo? Is that correct?

Lily: Uh, no. I have enough to discuss with her right now.

Billy: Yeah. That’s for sure. Listen, uh, thank you — because I know that you’re protecting me from the maternal backlash that will ensue. So, I appreciate that.

Lily: Yeah, I just want to keep our focus on whether we should go public, and I think that mentioning your decision is just gonna be a distraction that no one needs right now. Have you heard anything more about what’s going on with connor?

Billy: No. But he’s adam’s son, so I’m sure he’s a genius at disguising his feelings.

Lily: Well, he’s also chelsea’s son, which means that he wears his heart on his sleeve.

Billy: I mean, what’s a kid supposed to think? He finds out that his mom’s his cousin’s biological mom, too. I know how difficult it’s been on johnny. He doesn’t even want to think about chelsea, doesn’t want to mention her name, doesn’t even want to talk about it.

Adam: They should just hand you over the best costume award already because this is genius.

Connor: Dad, stop. It’s not that big a deal.

Adam: I’m serious. A few seconds ago, I looked over and I actually had to remind myself that you’re my kid and not some flesh-eating zombie. I was about to run out of here terrified, screaming bloody murder.

Connor: Let’s just go.

Adam: What are you talking about? We got a little time before you have to be at beckett’S. If we go over now, they’re gonna put you to work cleaning the bathroom and planting bloody hands in the front yard.

Connor: Sounds like fun to me.

Adam: [ Sighs ] The whole reason that we got dressed up early is so your mother could see you in your costume. You know? She should have been here by now.

Connor: She’s late for things. Like, everything — waking up, going to sleep, dinner. And then she apologizes for stuff nobody apologizes for.

Adam: She’s like that with you?

Connor: All the time.

Adam: Hmm. Do you know why?

Connor: Because of johnny. She’s sad about him constantly, so there’s no time left for anything else, including me.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

[ Ringing continues ]

Nick: I got your message. What’s going on?

Victoria: Come in and close the door. I thought about our last conversation regarding newman media.

Nick: Have you made a decision about who will be the permanent ceo?

Victoria: I have. And despite your objections, I’m moving forward with my decision to replace sally, hopefully with nate.

Nick: Have you made him the offer yet?

Victoria: No, I will be meeting with him later this afternoon. Look, I realize that you’ve been sally’s advocate from the start, so I thought that my coo should be the first to know.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Devon: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Hey, you’ve reached devon hamilton. Sorry I missed your call. Leave a message.

Nate: [ Sighs ] Devon. Hey. It’s me. Look, I know we said a lot of things last night in the heat of the moment, but it’s good we got it out and the open, right? Now we can deal with it, try to heal. You know, we fight hard, but when it’s all said and done, we’re family. When one of us makes a mistake, we patch things up. What we don’t do is quit on them. So we need to find a way to mend this, man. I know we can figure this out. Dry skin is sensitive skin, too.

Lily: Look, johnny and connor are at difficult ages, you know? They’re goin they’re trying to figure out who they are and where their place is in the world, and it’s a lot to process.

Billy: I know. I know it is. I just wish there was something I could do or say to make johnny feel better.

Lily: Well, you are. You’re doing what’s important. You’re there for them. I mean, they have a lot of people in their lives that love them and just want to help them through this.

Billy: It’s so like you to put the kids’ feelings first, even with everything that’s on your shoulders, given with the ipo being in the air and everything else.

Lily: Well, like I said, devon and I have it handled.

Billy: So, uh, hear me out for a second, but I spent last night tossing and turning, trying to figure out a way to make this whole transition easier.

Lily: It’s really not necessary.

Billy: I know, but I was thinking maybe I could be the go-between with my mother, you know, keeping her informed on everything that’s going on at chancellor-winters.

Lily: Okay, billy, you really don’t have to worry about it. I am ready for you to step back from your duties. You made it very clear that this isn’t what you want to be doing. And I’m glad. I’m grateful that you were honest with me ’cause I just want you to be happy.

Billy: Well, I don’t want to leave you in the lurch, though.

Lily: You’re not, okay? I will be fine until I find your replacement, someone who wants to be there.

Billy: [ Sighs ] It’s not the best timing, is it? Nate gets fired, and now you’ve got this major fire to put out.

Lily: Well, that’s my job. With devon.

[ Cellphone pings ]

[ Sighs ] I have to go back to the office.

Billy: I’ll go with you.

Lily: No, billy, just stay here, okay? Deal with what you have to deal with. Everything is fine. I’ll be fine.

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Sally: I hope I’m not interrupting, but I just had to come over and tell you what a fantastic costume this is.

Adam: Oh, this? This, uh — this is my doting dad costume that I, uh, wear on special occasions, but thank you.

Sally: Mm.

Adam: Yeah.

Sally: I was talking to your son.

Connor: Thanks.

Sally: So, what are your plans for halloween?

Connor: I’m going to a party at a friend’s house later.

Sally: How are you at trick-or-treating.

Connor: We’ve been working on a map of the best houses to hit for weeks.

Sally: Smart.

Connor: Then we’ll go back to his place, have pizza, watch a few movies.

Adam: But nothing scary.

Sally: Oh, yeah, ’cause, you know, it’s halloween, the night when witches and goblins and monsters of all sorts filled the streets. But, yeah, no one watches anything scary.

Connor: [ Laughs ]

Sally: Have you taken, like, a million pictures of this incredible creation?

Connor: My mom usually does all that. Has she called back yet?

Adam: Not yet, buddy.

Connor: She probably won’T. Let’s just go. I can wait at home for the party to start.

Adam: No, why don’t we just give her a few more minutes, okay?

Connor: Why bother? She’s not coming. She does that now. She makes promises, and she doesn’t follow through.

Adam: And why would you say that?

Connor: She just doesn’t care anymore about anything.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, you know what? Maybe we should go check on her.

Connor: Because you think something’s happened to her? Mom is okay, right?

Nick: I’m surprised your decision to fire sally came so abruptly.

Victoria: We’ve discussed the possibility. Letting her go has always been an option.

Nick: I thought I’d convinced you to give her some time to prove herself, to at least show her that much respect.

Victoria: I’ve already done that. It’s time to move on. She’s not the right person for the job.

Nick: Tell me something, vick. If you could remove sally’s personal life from the equation, would that affect your decision?

Victoria: I’m not gonna lie to you. Your growing relationship has given me pause that.

Nick: That should have absolutely nothing to do with your choice.

Victoria: You repeatedly refused to answer my question the two of you were spending together, which tells me that even you realize that this could be a potential problem.

Nick: Executives in this company have dated each other many times over the years. You yourself have been involved in some of those relationships.

Victoria: Yes, of course. But in this particular situation, I’m afraid that it will impact your judgment and your objectivity.

Nick: Give me one instance where I’ve given her preferential treatment.

Victoria: Well, you went awfully easy on her when she didn’t show up for that marketing meeting.

Nick: That’s not true. I treated her like I would treat any executive who made a very minor mistake.

Victoria: Are you sure about that?

Nick: Vick, she has been loyal to us. She has been dedicated to us. Do you remember she didn’t run certain stories because she had our back?

Victoria: Ask yourself something. Would you be so passionately defending her if you didn’t have this obvious personal connection to her? Hey! It’s me! Your dry skin!

Chelsea: [ Exhales heavily ]

[ Sighs ]

Adam: Look, I’m sure your mom’s fine. She probably just lost track of time doing something.

Connor: She doesn’t have a job. So, what’s she so busy doing that she’s forgotten about halloween?

Adam: Your mother would never forget halloween. There’s got to be — I don’t know — a whole bunch of pumpkins blocking the road or a bunch of kids out in the neighborhood looking for something sweet.

Sally: So, what is the ranch giving out?

Adam: Um…toothbrushes.

Connor: What? Dad, no, we can’T.

Sally: You’re kidding, right?

Adam: Hey, someone’s got to do it, and this year it’s us. As a matter of fact, I should probably run to the drugstore and pick some up so somebody else doesn’t buy them all. Um, sally, would you mind hanging out with the future winner of the costume contest?

Sally: I really don’t know if I should be sitting with the toothbrush family. But as long as connor is okay with it?

Connor: Sure.

Adam: See you guys soon.

Connor: Buy candy. And lots of it.

Adam: We will see. Thank you.

Connor: Alright. Name your top three favorite halloween candies. Go.

Nick: I’m not gonna talk about my relationship with sally because that’s off limits. And I’m a little offended that you don’t think I can separate my work from my personal life.

Victoria: I don’t understand why you’re fighting this so hard.

Nick: Sally has done a stellar job now for months.

Victoria: And I respect your opinion.

Nick: It’s not an opinion, vick. It’s facts. Look at the numbers.

Victoria: Look, the call is ultimately mine.

Nick: Well, I don’t understand your thought process.

Victoria: It’s a logical one. I want to be surrounded by people that I trust and respect. I don’t want to have to be second-guessing people’s loyalties or wondering if they’re gonna let their personal issues get in the way of work.

Nick: So, you want to install this man who was willing to turn his back on his own family and company for his personal ambition? If he’s willing to do that to his own relatives, what do you think he’s gonna do to us, vick? So, please explain to me how hiring him makes sense.

Nate: Come on in. I’m guessing this is the part where you give me a more personal take on how you feel about my betrayal?

Billy: No. I think I did a pretty good job of making you understand how i felt about you backstabbing us when you confessed.

Nate: Mm. So, how can I help you?

Billy: Well, I think I should actually congratulate you.

Nate: For what?

Billy: For being a bigger screw-up than I am. You know, I — I’ve gambled. I’ve cheated. I’ve lied. I’ve done a lot of things that a lot of decent people wouldn’t do. So, if I did what you did, people would expect it. But you… you know, you’re a good person. You’re smart and dependable, someone that people admire.

Nate: Okay. So, what are you saying? We’re alike?

Billy: No, no, no. No, I’m definitely not saying that. No, I’m a legendary bad boy. You are an upstanding citizen who made a terrible mistake, one that can be fixed if you make it right with devon. And, of course, the rest of your family. Which is what I would like to see happen.

Nate: Why? What possible difference could it make to you? I have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Billy: You know, when i finally got over the initial shock about what happened, I, uh — I started to think about my own history, about working in the family business and the battles that I had with my siblings. And I — I remember. You know, I had to decide that jabot wasn’t the right place for me, mostly because I was trying to live up to what other people’s ideas of what I should be doing.

Nate: I get it.

Billy: The difference is, nate, you loved being at chancellor-winters. And you’re good at it, okay? Those ideas that you had for the music festival — those were good ideas, and I supported them. It shows that you have good instincts.

Nate: Which devon couldn’t bring himself to acknowledge.

Billy: Yeah. That’s fine. But you know what? There’s always two sides to every story, and, yes, devon has a part in that.

Nate: Yeah. I’m glad you realize it.

Billy: The truth is you and devon — you’ve gotten past some pretty serious issues. And you can get past this one. And I want to see that happen because the longer this goes on, the harder it’s gonna be to heal.

Nate: As frustrated as I was by the way devon handled things, I regret my actions. I was blinded by my desire for power. He and elena were right to call me out on it. But devon won’t even admit he had a part to play in it.

Billy: I’m sure that was a very calm and rational conversation, trying to figure out who was more wrong.

Nate: Yeah, we both got pretty heated.

Billy: Have you tried reaching out?

Nate: Yeah. Um, he keeps sending me to voicemails. Won’t return my calls. I mean, why would he? He and lily probably hate me by now.

Billy: I don’t think that’s true. I mean, I know lily was very upset. She was disappointed, and she was hurt.

Nate: Yeah, and she’d probably never trust me again.

Billy: Well, that’s up to you, man. I mean, you got to do everything you can to earn their trust back.

Nate: I don’t even know where to begin.

[ Cellphone ringing ] That’s devon.

Billy: Answer it. Say two very underrated words — “I’m sorry.”

Nate: [ Sighs ] Hey. Devon.

Devon: I got your message. And if you want to talk to me, let’s do it.

Sally: Should we get some pastries?

Connor: Probably not. With the toothbrush threat hanging over my head.

Sally: [ Laughs ] I guess you’re right.

Connor: You’ve probably got better things to do. I’m cool with waiting alone. You know that I can handle being here by myself because that’s what I was doing the last time you saw me.

Sally: Fair enough. But I did promise your dad that I would hang out with you until he got back.

Connor: But why would you do anything for him? I know the two of you aren’t friends anymore.

Sally: Did he say that?

Connor: No, but —

Sally: Well, good. ‘Cause, yeah, even though some stuff happened and things are different now, it doesn’t mean that we’re not friends anymore. Has anything like that ever happened to you?

Connor: With me and beckett. The guy who’s having the party tonight. We play this video game together all the time, but then he decided he wanted to play something else.

Sally: A game you weren’t into.

Connor: Yeah. So we didn’t hang out for a while, but then we realized there’s this game we both like, so —

Sally: So everything’s good now.

Connor: The best.

Sally: See? And I have a feeling you are gonna have a great time tonight, and you’re definitely gonna have one of the coolest costumes there.

Connor: You think so?

Sally: Oh, trust me. I know a good costume when I see one. Top tier for creativity and 10 extra points for wearing it well.

Connor: Did you dress up for halloween when you were growing up?

Sally: Oh! I beg your pardon. I still do. It is my favorite holiday.

Connor: Even more than christmas?

Sally: Oh, well, yeah, because on halloween, you get to be someone else, anyone you want.

Connor: What’s your costume this year?

Sally: Well, I thought you. Would never ask. I am going to be irma vep.

Connor: Should I know who that is?

Sally: No, but it is a character in a movie way before your time. But it is also… an anagram.

Connor: Wait, I know. You move the letters and create another word.

Sally: How are you at puzzles?

Connor: You’re going to be a vampire.

Sally: The worst.

Connor: Very cool.

[ Both laugh ]

Adam: Chelsea, it’s me. Chels?

[ Knock on door ] Chelsea, if you’re in there, I’m just here to check on you. We were waiting for you in the coffeehouse. And you didn’t show up…

Chelsea: Oh, no.

Adam: So I just wanted to make sure that you were okay.

Chelsea: Connor. Oh, my god. I’m late.

Adam: Chelsea?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

Adam: Are you okay? Hi, my name is tony cooper, and I’m going to tell you about exciting medicare advantage plans that can provide broad coverage and still may save you money on monthly premiums and prescription drugs.

Even though some

things are far away,

Chelsea: I — I was feeling under the weather and I meant to call you and, um — I don’t know — I must have fallen asleep.

Adam: Well, I called you about a hundred times.

Chelsea: [ Sighs ]

Adam: Connor’s over at crimson lights, and he’s waiting for you to see his costume.

Chelsea: No. How upset is he?

Adam: He’s okay. But we were worried about you.

Chelsea: Oh, my god. He’s gonna think I forgot about him.

Adam: Well, with all this stuff with johnny, he does feel like you’re pulling away from him, like he’s not your priority, and this certainly didn’t help.

Chelsea: I don’t want him to feel that way. He’s my whole heart. I am — I am really, really sorry.

Adam: I know you are. And if you’re sick, you’re sick, but, you know, maybe next time you could let connor know so we could adjust our expectations.

Chelsea: You’re right. I mean, I should have texted you, and I just — I won’t let it happen again.

Adam: It’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up about it, okay?

Chelsea: Okay. Um, can you just, like, give me a minute to — to make myself presentable, and then we’ll go to the coffeehouse?

Adam: Sure.

Chelsea: Thank you.

[ Door closes ]

Victoria: This is how corporations work. Allegiances change on a case-by-case basis.

Nick: So you’re making excuses for a man who is willing to sell out his own family.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] Nate took a risk in a high-stakes game. His play was interrupted, but he never once revealed that I was the person he was working with.

Nick: And how long do you think that’s gonna stay a secret? You know everything comes to light.

Victoria: Nate displayed the kind of loyalty that I can appreciate.

Nick: What about the kind sally showed with that whole mess surrounding ashland’s death? She could have run with that story, told the truth about what happened, and gotten a hell of a lot of attention from it. But she didn’t do that. She held some back. I thought she showed the perfect blend of journalistic integrity and loyalty to this family.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] Of course you’d say that.

Nick: This has nothing to do with my friendship with her. I’m thinking about what is best for this company. She’s proven she can do the job, vick. You haven’t even bothered to ask what her plans are for the future or how many great ideas we could lose by replacing her with someone else. So, you tell me. Who’s thinking about what’s best for newman, and who is reacting from their own personal feelings?

Nate: Come on in. I wasn’t sure you were getting my messages, but I’m glad you called. I was hoping we could talk. You know, have a real conversation without all the anger and accusations.

Devon: So, the opposite of what happened when we ran into each other at noah’s club?

Nate: We both said a lot of things in the heat of the moment that we shouldn’t have.

Devon: Did we?

Nate: I said a lot of things that I know were upsetting.

Devon: Yeah, I’d say so.

Nate: But what I didn’t say and what I want you to know is I’m sorry. I was so busy defending my actions and blaming you for your role in what happened that i didn’t apologize for what I did.

Devon: You said my role in what happened.

Nate: Look, what I did was reprehensible, that I would even consider allowing someone else to take control of chancellor-winters, of the legacy of two families, away from you and lily and jill, that I would try to justify my actions. And the fact that I didn’t follow through with it is immaterial. I’m owning up to what I did. And I hope you know I would never do anything like that again. Look, my hope is that you can find it in your heart to forgive me and that we can all find a way to get past this together. But the only way we can do that is if we’re completely honest with each other. So…talk to me, man.

Devon: You want to talk? Okay. We can talk. Sure. I’ve, uh — I’ve actually been giving a lot of thought to what you said about neil, accusing me of holding on so tight to his memory that I’m squeezing all the life out of the company and how I wasn’t allowing any room for growth and new ideas and how my love for him was ruining our relationship, shutting you down and holding you back.

Nate: It was out of anger.

Devon: Yeah, maybe. But, you know, maybe there is some truth to what you said, too. Pain hits fast.

Lily: Why are you here?

Billy: I’m gonna trust you didn’t mean that the way that it sounded.

Lily: I told you I could handle this.

Billy: Yeah, I know. Of course. And I will step back, like i said I would. I just, you know, wanted to try and alleviate some of the pressure that you’re under.

Lily: What do you mean by that?

Billy: I just left nate, and we had a good conversation.

Lily: Why?

Billy: Because I wanted to try and facilitate an end to the family drama because it’s in the best interests of everyone.

Lily: Yeah, but he’s my cousin.

Billy: Yeah, no, I know that. But I’m, you know, a neutral party.

Lily: Well, I mean, you’re hardly neutral. You were as furious as the rest of us. So, what happened?

Billy: Well, you’re right. He was braced for another attack when I walked in, but we were able to have a good conversation, and I just expressed that I get it. You know, family drama happens. It happened to me at jabot. But reconciliation is possible when you have forgiveness. I also told him it’s going to be up to him to convince you and devon that he deserves that.

Lily: Okay. I-I don’t understand why you took it upon yourself to go talk to him without even running it by me first.

Billy: Because I know how much family means to you and devon and this company. And I just wanted to do my part, you know, before I resigned.

Lily: Billy, just be honest. I mean, this has nothing to do with you wanting to help my family heal. This is because you feel guilty about walking away.

Devon: The point I’d like to make is that even if neil’s memory does have a hold of me in some way, I still tried to let you in.

Nate: It didn’t feel like it at the time.

Devon: Well…I did. And let me tell you, I’m gonna miss my dad for the rest of my life. So, yeah, dealing with his loss — it affects every decision I make. But ultimately it was my choice to go ahead with the merger. It was my choice to bring you on as coo, even with you having no experience. And, you know, I did the best job I could at giving you the same kind of guidance and the same kind of focus that neil would have given you if he were still around — at least, i thought. But you didn’t see it as that. You just saw it as me trying to squash your dreams.

Nate: Yeah, um… I guess I let my own emotions and ambitions cloud my perspective.

Devon: Well, it’s nice that you can admit that, but, you know, it still doesn’t excuse the fact that you went out of your way to screw over your family. And honestly, I don’t know how anybody does that, no matter how frustrated you get.

Nate: I convinced myself it was ultimately in all of our best interests, that it would lead to a bigger and better chancellor-winters.

Devon: With you running things, though, right?

Nate: Yeah. In retrospect, it was just a rationalization.

Devon: Weren’t you always the guy preaching how important it was to you to create this family legacy to leave behind for the kids, for the next generation, for charlie and mattie and moses and dominic, any kids you might have down the line?

Nate: I lost track of what was most important to me. At the time, all I could think about was what would be good for me in the short term. I had this vision of proving to all of you what a great leader i can be.

Devon: And who was blowing your head up with all these ideas? Who were you sharing information with about our ipo?

Nate: That doesn’t matter anymore.

Devon: How you gonna say it doesn’t matter?

Nate: Because I’m not selling shares that would have made a takeover possible. Hell, I don’t even have shares because I’m not a part of the company anymore. So this other ceo is no longer a threat.

Devon: But, nate, just because you didn’t do what they asked you to do doesn’t mean whoever it is, is done going after our company.

Nate: You’ll be prepared to prevent anyone from attempting that kind of move. Audra will make sure of it. This is about what I did.

Devon: What about what you’re doing right now? You’re choosing to protect this ceo instead of your family.

Nate: I’m not.

Devon: Okay. Give me a name then.

Nate: I’m sorry, devon.

Devon: You’re sorry? Do you know the definition of “sorry”? How you gonna sit there and say you’re sorry when you’re clearly okay with leaving us vulnerable to another attack? If you are sorry, tell me a name. Okay. You know what? I will definitely remember this.

Nate: Devon, look —

Devon: What, nate? I have nothing to say to you unless you’re gonna help me out. Did you think just by saying you’re sorry that I’m gonna forgive you and, what, trust you again?

Nate: I know it’ll take some time.

Devon: I think it’s gonna take all the time. Why do you deserve a second chance?

[ Door slams ]

Victoria: Sally has done an adequate job. That’s my professional opinion. But I believe that nate would be a better fit for newman media.

Nick: Loyalty issues aside, what makes you think nate’s gonna do a better job?

Victoria: Nate has been a trusted family friend for years. He stepped up for us. He put his integrity on the line when we asked him to. This incident doesn’t prove that he can be trusted. And do you know what, nicholas? My instincts tell me that nate is gonna surprise all of us.

Nick: And if you’re wrong and it doesn’t work out?

Victoria: Well, then I have other candidates to choose from. So, whether you like it or not, nicholas, this change is happening. Sally’s out. And chloe, as well. The only question is, do you want to break the news to sally or would you like for me to handle it?

Nick: So you’re not even gonna wait to see what nate’s answer is?

Victoria: It’s not gonna change my plan. If nate’s not gonna come on board as ceo, then I will choose someone else.

Nick: Well, if I can’t change your mind, then I’ll be the one to tell her.

Victoria: As you wish.

Connor: What’s your favorite scary movie?

Sally: [ Exhales sharply ] Get me a bowl of popcorn and “poltergeist,” and I’m good.

Connor: I saw that and couldn’t sleep with the lights off for a week.

Sally: Oh, that’s when you know it’s good — ’cause it won’t leave you.

Sally: I remember watching it with my aunt when I was a little bit older than you, and it still makes me scream.

Connor: No way.

Sally: Oh, yeah, that creepy clown scene?

Connor: I know!

Sally: Yeah. The way you’re watching it, you know the clown’s supposed to be in the chair, and then…

Connor: Where’s the clown?

Both: Ahh!

[ Both laugh ]

Connor: Clowns and ventriloquist dummies?

[ Chuckling ] Ohh.

Sally: I wouldn’t be surprised if that one starts walking tonight.

Connor: Ohh.

Sally: I have a question for you. Which is creepier — clowns or vampires?

Connor: Easy. Clowns. At least you know exactly what a vampire is going to do to you.

Sally: So you don’t trust a clown?

Connor: They’ll smile at you, but they’re always planning a surprise.

Sally: You are absolutely right.

[ Both laughing ] Hey! It’s me! Your dry skin!

Chelsea: Connor, you look incredible. This is the coolest zombie costume I’ve ever seen.

Adam: You like it?

Chelsea: Oh, I love it. Hi, sally.

Sally: Hi.

Chelsea: Are you excited about your party later?

Connor: Yeah.

Chelsea: Well, we just drove by it, and it’s all decked out. It looks like a, um — I don’t know. It looks like a — like a — a haunted castle.

Connor: Cool.

Chelsea: Do you want to go outside and we can take some pictures together?

Adam: That’s a good idea. We should do that.

Connor: See you, sally.

Sally: Have fun tonight. And remember — not too many scary movies.

Chelsea: It’s gonna be a great night.

Connor: Hi, uncle nick.

Nick: Dude, sick costume. Hey. Um…we need to talk.

Billy: I am just trying to make my transition as smooth as possible.

Lily: Yeah, I know, but i told you that you don’t have to worry about it, just like I told you that I support your decision to leave the corporate world because it makes you so unhappy. So, if you’re feeling guilty about your decision, don’T.

Billy: Lily, I’m just trying to help.

Lily: No, I know you’re trying to help, billy, but it’s not helping. It’s having the opposite effect. You shouldn’t put yourself in the middle of what’s happening with nate. It’s not your problem to solve anymore, okay? So, it’s my company, it’s my family, and I will handle it the way I see fit.

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Nate: I got your message.

Victoria: So glad you came. I wasn’t sure if you would or not.

Nate: I was surprised you reached out. I don’t imagine there’s much more for us to discuss.

Victoria: Actually, we have quite a lot to talk about. Have a seat. I’m just gonna go ahead and cut right to the heart of the matter. How would you feel about taking over as ceo of newman media?

Recap written by Eva

Adam worries when Chelsea doesn’t show up to see Connor in his Halloween costume before he goes to his best friend’s Halloween party. Connor tells Adam that Chelsea is sad about Johnny all the time and she doesn’t care about him anymore. Adam worries when Chelsea doesn’t answer her cell phone, so he heads to her hotel room to check on her. Chelsea tells Adam she is feeling under the weather, but the truth is she didn’t answer the phone because she was asleep. Adam and Chelsea head to Crimson Lights to see Connor in his costume. Connor is having fun talking with Sally about her favorite Halloween movies.

Billy advises Nate to apologize to Devon and try to mend the rift between them. Nate talks to Devon later and apologizes to Devon and he admits that he was blinded by power and Devon admits that he didn’t let the company grow because he was holding on too tightly to Neil’s memory and the way Neil would want things done.

Lily is upset with Billy because he spoke to Nate and advised him to apologize to Devon for what he did.  Lily thinks Billy did it because he feels guilty about leaving the company.

Devon asks Nate to give him the name of the CEO to which he was giving company secrets. Nate refuses to do so and Devon tells Nate he will never forgive or trust him.

Nick does his best to persuade Victoria not to fire Sally and Chloe from Newman Media but she tells Nick she is replacing Sally even if Nate turns down the job. Nick heads to Crimson Lights to give Sally the bad news. Victoria asks Nate if he wants the job as CEO of Newman Media.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Phyllis: You won’t believe what just happened.

Nikki: I hope it’s about diane. Is she on the way out?

Phyllis: Probably. Something went down between her and jack at jabot.

Nikki: Details, details!

Phyllis: I don’t really have details. I mean, I saw them in his office talking. I mean, it looked like something heavy was happening, so I sort of accidentally, on purpose interrupted.

Nikki: Good move.

Phyllis: Nikki, diane was so rattled.

Diane: Rattled? Like — like, what do you mean? Was she sad? Was she angry?

Diane: No. She was crying.

Nikki: [ Gasps ]

Phyllis: I wasn’t sure if they were tears of anger or tears of sadness. I mean, I don’t know. But by the looks of both of them, whatever happened, it was big.

Diane: It went on for months like this. Until I discovered that he was using me as a mule.

Jack: Wait. He had you smuggling drugs?

Diane: No, not drugs. Cash. Either his assistant or his driver would hide bundles of cash in my suitcases when I wasn’t looking. And then jeremy would remove them when we got to the location and deposit them in a local bank. Millions and millions of dollars, jack. He was sheltering illegal funds and using me to do it. Tucker was the man in the bentley. That’s the one thing I lied to you about. We were connected in L.A., But it was just a random run-in.

Jack: When was this?

Diane: About six months before I started reaching out to you. Tucker recognized me immediately, and I was hoping he would drop it, but of course he didn’T.

Jack: That wouldn’t be his style, no.

Diane: No, not at all. He, um — he was able to connect the dots because he knew people who had done business with jeremy. And somehow he uncovered evidence of my crimes that the feds had overlooked. But he promised that he would keep quiet if we helped each other.

Ashley: Jack? Hey. What’s got you so deep in thought?

Jack: Oh, some work stuff.

Ashley: Okay, that is not the face of somebody who’s thinking about business. I know how much you care about jabot, but this is not that. So, what’s going on?

Jack: Well, it turns out that you and nikki and phyllis were right.

Ashley: Right about what?

Jack: Diane.

[ Glass slams ]

Diane: [ Breathes deeply ]

[ Sighs ]

Tucker: What’s happened? Do we need to go somewhere private?

Diane: Do me a favor, tucker. Go away. You’re the last person I want to talk to right now. In fact, I would be happy if i never had to speak to you again. More than ever, I regret allowing you to blackmail me into colluding with you.

Tucker: Someone’s found out what we were up to in L.A., Haven’t they?

Abby: Noah was right. That exhibition was great. I think he’s onto something with this whole combination club/gallery thing.

Chance: Yeah. I won’t lie. I was too busy kissing you. I didn’t notice any of the art. Mm.

Devon: Hey, you two.

Abby: Hi.

Devon: I just wanted to come over and apologize for you guys having to see that the argument between nate and me. It was really out of line. And, uh, I appreciate you coming in to make sure that it didn’t get any worse.

Chance: Well, don’t thank me. Thank abby. It was her idea. We just wanted to help de-escalate the situation.

Abby: Why were you and nate so upset? I haven’t seen the two of you at each other’s throats like that in quite some time.

Devon: Yeah.

Billy: Hello, gorgeous.

Lily: Hello.

Billy: Hi. Mwah!

Lily: What’s all this?

Billy: Well, you have had a hell of a day, so I thought you deserved something a little special.

Lily: Aww. Thank you.

Billy: You’re welcome. On top of that, I thought we could use tonight as a little celebratory dinner as I say farewell to chancellor-winters before things get a little sticky.

Lily: Sticky? What do you mean by that?

Billy: I know we decided not to tell my mom about me leaving, but we will soon enough, and when we do, things could go a number of ways.

Devon: I really don’t want to get into the whole nate thing. It was a blow-up that was a long time coming. That’s all.

Abby: I’m so sorry to hear that.

Devon: It’s fine. Really. I actually came here to talk with tucker and I thought that i would be able to avoid running into nate and I was clearly wrong.

Abby: Is whatever is going on between you and nate really that bad?

Devon: Yeah. Yeah, it is. It’s just a long history of issues that have finally boiled to the surface.

Chance: Hopefully you two can work it out.

Devon: Oh, I don’t think we’ll be working anything out. I, uh — I think that what’s been done is beyond repair.

Tucker: [ Inhales deeply ]

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Tucker: You can tell me, diane. Was our plan somehow uncovered? Ah. Who was it? Phyllis? Nikki? Did they find some unturned stone?

Diane: No, but it was only a matter of time before they did.

Tucker: I see.

[ Chuckles ] So, it was you. You jumped the gun, eh?

Diane: I had to get ahead of things before it was too late — because as soon as this whole thing came out, it would have ruined my relationship with kyle and harrison, and I was not going to let that happen. So I had to do damage control before this whole thing blew up in my face.

Tucker: Who, precisely, did you confess to?

Diane: [ Sighs ] Jack. I told him all about the darker parts of my life in los angeles.

Ashley: I knew you were talking about diane, jack. In what way were we right?

Jack: Oh, pretty much all of it. Diane and tucker did cross paths in L.A. Diane got herself in a sketchy situation as taylor jenson.

Ashley: Oh, I bet she did.

Jack: And just as she got herself out of it, tucker came into the picture. He was the man in the bentley. And once he had discovered that diane was alive and what she had been caught up in, he offered her a deal.

Ashley: What kind of deal?

Jack: He would stay quiet about her identity and her transgressions, and he would offer her some information that might reconnect her to kyle.

Ashley: Allie.

Jack: Exactly. He offered up what he knew of my granddaughter as a means for her to manipulate her way back into our lives.

Ashley: Hmm. And what did tucker get out of this?

Jack: Well, this is the part you’re not going to like. He expected her to feed him information about you.

Ashley: This is about his obsession with me?

Jack: I’m sure he wanted her to do some other things.

Ashley: Like what?

Jack: Well, she was very vague about the rest of it. The bottom line is, she has been lying to us from the beginning. There’s nothing like hitting the waves.

Abby: I am so sorry about you and nate.

Devon: Oh, don’t be at all. It’s, uh — it’s — it’s been very eye-opening seeing a side of him that I never imagined. But, um, we definitely don’t need to talk about him any more. So, you guys need to enjoy yourselves. You’re all dressed up, so you’re clearly on a date that I’m ruining, so…

Abby: Stop. No. Don’t be silly. You didn’t ruin or interrupt anything.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Chance: Uh, I’m sorry. It’s the — it’s the station again.

Abby: Wait, I thought the last time they texted you said you had it covered.

Chance: [ Groans ] Eh, it looks like things have changed. They need me at a crime scene now.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Chance: I’m sorry, baby. I got to go.

Abby: Okay, well, apparently, that is what I signed up for when I married a detective.

Chance: Look, I’m going to make this up to you. I promise.

Abby: Okay.

Chance: Bye. I’ll see you, man.

Devon: Yeah, man. Be safe. Well [Chuckles] Looks like we’re on our own tonight. Would you like some company?

[ Both chuckle ]

Nikki: What is the point of you being at marchetti if you’re not gonna dig deep? Ask questions. I mean, you’re supposed to be there to get the scoop on diane firsthand.

Phyllis: Hey — hey! You know what? My part of this plan is going great. If I wasn’t at marchetti in the first place, I would have never seen what was going on between jack and diane. I mean, yeah, I may not have details yet, but it’s only a matter of time before I get the rest.

Nikki: Why didn’t you press harder for more information then and there?

Phyllis: Listen, I wanted to grill jack, but he slipped out of the office too quickly.

Nikki: Well, you could have gone to his house and talked to him.

Phyllis: No, I couldn’t! What, I just knock on the door and I ask him questions? He’s not gonna be forthcoming. We’re not at that level.

Nikki: Yeah, I guess that’s true.

Phyllis: Yeah. Nikki, trust me. Trust me when I say diane is at her tipping point. She really is. It’s only a matter of time before she snaps.

Nikki: Oh, god, I hope you’re right.

Phyllis: I am right, and when she does snap, no one, not even kyle, will think it’s a good idea to keep her around.

Tucker: You said the darker parts of your life in los angeles. What do you mean?

Diane: I told jack about my involvement with jeremy stark and…with you.

Tucker: Ah.

[ Breathes deeply ] Um, forgive me. Was I not the one who gave you everything you needed to get you where you are right now? Would you have ever gotten the information about jack’s granddaughter, allie, were it not for me, which you used to your full advantage? Are you saying you regret all that now?

Diane: Okay, I-I-I admit that that played a key role in reuniting me with — with my son and — and giving me the opportunity to meet my grandson.

Tucker: Yeah. You know, what you should be regretting right now is that you don’t have the strength or the willpower to keep your mouth shut.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Well, maybe if you would have ended our arrangement when you got what you wanted instead of reneging on our deal, I could have kept my mouth shut. But the longer I kept working with you, the greater chance i had of getting caught. You, tucker, forced my hand.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] Well, you may have thought you were getting out ahead of things by confessing, but I don’t think you’ve considered the other side.

Diane: What other side?

Tucker: You realize jack is absolutely going to tell kyle — and possibly others — everything you confessed to him? And then what happens to your progress?

Diane: [ Scoffs ] I did think about that. But better he hear it from me than somebody else.

Tucker: Yes, from you. Right.

[ Laughs ] Do you think that will make any difference once people find out that the once sneaky, conniving, death-faking diane jenkins… is actually still the same self-serving, lying manipulator?

Ashley: I got to say it. I told you so.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Ashley: How often have I told you over and over again that diane cannot be trusted?

Jack: Gee, I thought you would be outraged that diane was giving tucker information about you.

Ashley: That’s not why I’m upset, jack. I could care less what tucker knows or doesn’t know about my life. I’m angry because they used allie and the loss of her father to get to us. It’s disgusting the way they preyed upon an innocent young girl.

Jack: Wait, we already knew that diane was doing that.

Ashley: Listen. Okay, diane said that she was motivated out of love because she wanted to get back in kyle’s life. She said nothing about making a deal with the devil. And how many times did she swear to us that we knew everything? The fact that she’s working with tucker during this time, it’s despicable. You must be furious. Want your clothes to smell freshly

Lily: So, are you worried that jill is gonna feel like you’re letting down her and the company by quitting chancellor-winters?

Billy: I think she could be upset that I’m walking away before the issues that the company has are settled. But ultimately, she’s gonna see that chancellor-winters is in a great place.

Lily: And what makes you so sure?

Billy: Because you are capable of anything. And she believes in you, as i do. In fact, I think she has more faith in you than she ever had with me.

Lily: Oh, stop. Come on. That’s not true.

Billy: Well —

Lily: Deep down, she sees your strength and value, no matter what she says.

Billy: There’s a part of me that thinks maybe that’s true, that maybe chancellor-winters is better off without me. And the simple fact is, she’s going to be right because you are amazing, even more so than you realize.

Lily: Well, thank you for the compliments and the recognition. Although — I don’t know — it’s bittersweet for me, you know, and also a bit worrisome.

Billy: Mm? What’s there to worry about? I mean, you do want me to find my passion and pursue it, right?

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Yes, but in the past, whenever you’ve had a lot of time on your hands, you tend to get yourself in trouble.

Tucker: I thought I made it very clear to you that I had two primary objectives, one of which was reuniting with ashley. Right? Mm-hmm. You know how important that is to me, yes?

Diane: Yeah.

Tucker: Yeah. Well, if jack has told her anything of what you’ve told him, then that destroys any chance I had with her. You realize that, that you have thrown my chance at reconciliation with her under the bus, along with my other plans? I’ll tell you what, though, diane — I am not gonna give up on my goals.

Diane: I’m not saying that you should. I only told jack that you wanted information about ashley, nothing more.

Tucker: [ Chuckling ] Oh, okay, well, in that case, no big deal.

Diane: Oh, come on. Your ex-wife has made it very clear that she wants nothing to do with you. And I had to give jack something. I figured this held lower stakes. It’s not like you really had a chance with ashley to begin with.

Tucker: You know that for a fact?

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Tucker: Well, I know something for a fact, diane. Your little confession is gonna tear down everything you think you’ve built. Bad move all around.

Jack: Yeah, I suppose i should be furious. Frankly, I don’t know how i feel. I never could really trust diane.

Ashley: Kind of seemed like you did.

Jack: Well, I gave her the benefit of the doubt for kyle’s sake, but there was a tinge of doubt, even in our best moments. Though I have to admit this has caught me completely off guard.

Ashley: Selfishly speaking, I’m happy that you’re not harboring any illusions about diane. But I’m sorry that it’s thrown you like this. I really am.

Jack: I’m just glad kyle and summer aren’t here for this.

Ashley: Yeah, well, they’re gonna have to know the truth soon, jack.

Jack: Kyle’s gonna be devastated to learn that after swearing up and down that she had changed, his mother continued to lie to him. He doesn’t deserve this.

Ashley: I know. It’s gonna be difficult. But something has to be done now. Diane is far too involved in our family, jack, and we cannot let her get in any deeper.

Abby: Thank you. Actually, I am happy that we have this time together. I feel like there are some things you need to get off your chest.

Devon: Am I in for a grilling, abby?

Abby: Oh, you bet you are.

Devon: Is that what this is?

[ Both laugh ] Oh, gosh. Uh… okay. I’m sure you weren’t thrilled to see me with tucker ’cause I know he’s not your favorite person.

Abby: Well, if it were up to me, he’d be far away from genoa city, but I’m not gonna criticize you for spending time with your father.

Devon: Well, thank you for that. Appreciate it. We actually had a really good conversation.

Abby: Oh, great. But that must mean that your mood has to do with nate.

Devon: You are correct, yeah. But I’m not gonna ruin your night even more by making you listen to my problems.

Abby: Stop. I would much rather be helping a friend than wallowing in my feelings about chance prioritizing work over everything else once again.

Devon: Okay. Well, I’m going to remind you of this moment because you asked for it, so…

Abby: Please do. Try me.

Devon: …I hope you don’t regret it.

Abby: I’m not gonna regret it.

[ Both laugh ]

Devon: Um, do you remember a little while back when i mentioned that I was having some difficulties working with nate?

Abby: I do. You said that you felt like he wasn’t respecting you.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Abby: Yeah, when I saw the two of you arguing, I was worried that’s what it was about. So, it hasn’t gotten any better?

Devon: Well, that depends on your definition of “better” ’cause he’s not my coo anymore.

Abby: Oh, my god. Did he quit?

Devon: No — oh, actually, yeah, he did at first, but then he came back. Pand since, we’ve all just realized that he’s not the best fit.

Abby: I’m sorry.

Devon: Don’t be sorry at all. It really is for the best. But what’s bothering me is something that he said when we were having it out the other day.

Abby: What was that?

Devon: He brought up neil, and he said that I’m hanging on so tight to his memory that I’m squeezing the life out of the company and that I can never truly open myself up to having a partnership.

Abby: Well, I’ve known you a long time. I mean, you’ve been in business for a very long time, and I’ve never known you to have a problem with anyone from your staff.

Devon: Well, staff is one thing. He’s talking about someone who’s my equal or somebody that’s, you know, standing on semi-equal grounds as me. Apparently, that’s what I can’t stomach.

Abby: Aren’t you and lily equal partners?

Devon: Yeah, we are, but she mainly handles the chancellor side of things. And I’m — you know, I oversee everything winters. And according to nate, I can’t or I won’t allow anyone to step in to neil’s territory.

Abby: Well, what do you think? Is there any validity to nate’s line of thinking? (Peaceful music) I love being alive, man.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

When do you spray febreze

air?

Devon: Well, do you think there’s any truth to what nate’s saying? Is that why you’re asking me this question?

Abby: Look, I’m not saying that it’s true, but I — I have to wonder, if it’s not true, then why does it bother you so much? Neil was a very important part of your life. He was an incredible father and a mentor, and you two started hamilton-winters together. It’s like a monument, like a — a living legacy of neil’S.

Devon: Yeah, and I’ve tried to live up to it.

Abby: Yeah. I mean, he’s the only father that you knew most of your life. So it makes sense that you would want to hold on to that.

Devon: Yeah. I also think that’s why I was hesitant at first to do the merger, you know, just ’cause a part of me felt like I was betraying what neil would actually want to do.

Abby: And I’m sure it’s natural to feel that way. But if you weren’t comfortable with the merger, then why did you agree to go through with it?

Devon: Because the more that lily pushed me to do it and amanda encouraged me, I just suppressed my feelings of doubt. But, you know, was nate right to say that I purposely held him back just ’cause he’s not neil? Or ’cause I’m not past losing my dad? I mean, I don’t — I don’t know.

Billy: Me? Trouble?

Lily: [ Laughs ]

Billy: Come on. I’m not gonna get into trouble. Although I’m not gonna do much until I really figure out what my next steps are. Who knows? Maybe I’ll become a world-class couch potato.

Lily: Ohh, that’s not funny.

Billy: Let’s think about how good I would be at that, okay? I’d have a little utility belt…

Lily: Oh, god.

Billy: …Remote, phone, some snacks right there, a hard hat with, like, a beer on either side. I’d really never have to get up, unless, of course, I have to tend to my lady.

Lily: Mnh. Okay.

Billy: Hey, I’m not gonna get lazy or do anything like that. But I’m also not gonna jump in to the first thing that comes to mind.

Lily: I know, but you are this creative, adventurous person, and you have too much energy to sit around doing nothing all day.

Billy: Promise me something.

Lily: Anything.

Billy: Promise me that you won’t spend a second worrying about me.

Lily: I’ll try my best.

Billy: Well, let’s start practicing right now. You need to clear your mind and not think about a single thing except for dancing with me in the middle of this restaurant.

Lily: [ Laughing ] Oh, god. Aww.

[ Both laugh ]

Ashley: I’m sure there are still things about diane that we don’t know. She probably has an ulterior motive that she’s hiding from us that has to do with tucker.

Jack: I…

Ashley: Why? Why are you still so hesitant about going after her?

Jack: I suppose on some level I understand what she was caught up in. She was trying to restart her life. She wasn’t doing anything for malicious intent.

Ashley: Jack, jack, this is diane jenkins we’re talking about.

Jack: If what she told me was true, she felt forced to do sketchy things for fear of her real identity being exposed.

Ashley: Oh, boo-hoo-hoo. Really. Poor diane. She couldn’t go on living under an assumed name? I’m supposed to have sympathy for her because of that?

Jack: Everything she did was for survival.

Ashley: Oh, yeah.

Jack: I don’t know that she had any other motive. But then again, I don’t know that she didn’T.

Ashley: Please stay with that suspicious instinct.

Jack: We need more information before we jump to conclusions here. How are things with you and tucker? You still think you can get him to tell you things?

Ashley: Well, I am more committed than ever to string him along to get as much information as I can about him and diane. And you know what? I think our entire family needs to be prepared for anything.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Diane: [ Breathes deeply ] Tucker, I will manage this situation just like I have the whole time. I only confessed to jack because he has repeatedly shown himself to be sympathetic.

Tucker: Mm. Well, now that he knows the truth, those days are over.

Diane: No, not necessarily. Jack understands how people can be trapped by circumstances. Hopefully, he understands why i did what I did in L.A. And he can help kyle understand, too. No, he — he will help me preserve the relationships that I have worked so hard to develop with my son and grandson.

Tucker: You’re all gonna live happily ever after, diane.

Diane: You know —

Tucker: For sure.

Diane: Why is that so hard to believe? Why? I explained to jack that through it all, I was the victim. First I was under jeremy’s thumb, and then I was under yours.

Tucker: No one — no one, especially jack, will ever see you as a victim. What you ought to be worried about right now is how I see you. And right now I see you as a liability. I brought in ensure max protein

Diane: If I’m such a liability, then you shouldn’t want anything more to do with me, and this is where we part ways.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] I’ll always give you points for nerve, but I’m not done with you, not by a long shot.

[ Cellphone pings ] Huh. This is ashley. She’d like to meet. For your sake, diane, I hope that jack has not told ashley anything you told him. ‘Cause if I have to clean up this mess… I’m gonna make your life so hard.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ]

[ Sighs heavily ]

Nikki: Well, actually, diane plays a small part in my day-to-day life, and I want her gone as a public service to the people of genoa city, especially summer.

Phyllis: No, we’d both do anything for summer.

Nikki: But her departure would impact you more than the rest of our little coalition. I mean, ashley’s in europe so often, she’s not gonna see her. You have the misfortune of daily contact with her.

Phyllis: Thank you. Thank you. Someone who finally sees my suffering. Yes. It’s hell. I want her gone. I mean, this lunatic she-devil has been swallowing up my life day by day.

[ Sighs ] I gave up my career so I could go to marchetti and spy on her.

Nikki: And I appreciate your sacrifice.

Phyllis: Thank you. It’s gonna pay off. We both know there’s a secret that she’s hiding, and we’re gonna find out, but until then, I’m gonna use what I have to my advantage. I like the job there. I like it, and I’m really good at it. Nikki, I want my life back.

Abby: I think you’re being too hard on yourself.

Devon: Yeah, maybe. Maybe I’m not.

Abby: You’re not fully responsible for what happened with nate.

Devon: Yeah, no, believe me, I — I know that he definitely deserves his share of blame. ‘Cause, regardless, even if I am holding on to neil’s memory, he chose how to respond.

Abby: Well, I’m glad you recognize that. Everyone’s responsible for their own actions. You for yours, nate for his. Look, no conflict is one-sided. It takes two.

[ Indistinct conversation ] With downy infusions, let the scent set the mood.

Chance: Hey.

Devon: Hey, man.

Abby: Oh, my gosh! I didn’t think you’d be back tonight.

Chance: Yeah.

Abby: Mwah! Did you solve the case already?

Chance: Oh, hardly.- Just got someone else to take the lead.

Abby: Well, that’s great.

Chance: Yeah. Yeah, well, uh, thanks for keeping her company, man. If you don’t mind, I’m gonna steal her back now.

Devon: Absolutely, absolutely, she’s all yours. PAbby: Wow. I cannot believe that you left what sounded like an important case.

Chance: Well, nothing is more important than dancing with my beautiful wife.

Abby: Mm.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Diane: Is there another shoe that could drop? I mean, I-I certainly don’t think so. But I live in fear that one of those enemies is going to find something that’s going to change the way that you and kyle see me, wh-whether or not it’s — it’s even true.

[ Exhales sharply ] I guess i just didn’t realize how, uh — how hard it would be to redeem myself, how long this battle would take.

[ Crying ]

Jack: I can see this has been tough on you. My advice? Take the clean slate kyle and i have offered you. Let that fortify you from here on.

Diane: Thank you. It means a lot. I appreciate you so much. You have the least reasons of anyone to make me feel worthy, believed, safe. And yet you do.

Jack: I’m glad that’s so.

Diane: Me too.

[ Glass slams ]

Phyllis: Hey. How are you doing? I don’t want to pry.

[ Sighs ] Listen, diane. What did you do to screw up this time? Hmm? I’m just saying that because when I saw you in jack’s office, I mean, obviously you did something.

Diane: Phyllis, you are relentlessly destructive. You’re like a vulture just circling around, waiting to feed off of other people’s pain.

Phyllis: Wow. Okay. Well, that’s a vicious attack. My goodness. Um, okay, I was just extending myself out of concern. You know, I’ve gone out of my way to proclaim and honor our truce, out of my way out of respect for our families and the good of marchetti, of course.

Diane: You know, that is just like you, acting like you’re protecting the people you love when you’re secretly savoring an opportunity to say “I told you so.” You know, it’s — it’s — it’s very dark and very perverse.

Billy: [ Clears throat ]

Lily: Thank you.

Ashley: Hey, it’s so good to see you both!

Billy: Hey.

Lily: Hi. Yeah, it’s been so long.

Billy: What are you doing? You picking up a little, uh, late-night takeout?

Ashley: Why, no, actually. I’m meeting a human being for a drink, billy.

Lily: [ Laughs ]

Billy: Okay. Well, just promise me that it’s not tucker.

Ashley: Uh, if I did, I’d be lying.

Billy: Ashley, why would you be spending any time with —

Ashley: I have my reasons.

Tucker: Hey.

Ashley: Hi.

Tucker: Billy. Lily. After spending time with devon tonight, it’s nice to see the rest of chancellor-winters’ leadership team.

Lily: Tucker.

Billy: Good luck with that.

Ashley: Uh-huh.

Lily: Bye.

Ashley: Bye. Anyway… hi there.

Tucker: I can’t tell you how pleased I was to get your text. Does this mean you’re open to finally giving me the benefit of the doubt?

Ashley: Well, that depends.

Tucker: [ Laughs ] That sounds promising. On what?

Ashley: On how open and honest you are with me tonight.

Tucker: Aha. Well, I’m an open book. What do you want to know?

Ashley: I want to know everything about you and diane and los angeles. And one more thing. Go slow. And start from the very beginning.

Recap written by Eva

Devon tells Abby that Nate thinks he is unwilling to have another business partner that isn’t Neil and he wonders if Nate is right but Abby doesn’t offer Devon an opinion on the situation. Abby just tells Devon the fact that he is so bothered by what Nate told him might mean that he thinks what Nate said is true.

Jack tells Ashley that Diane got herself into a sketchy situation in Los Angeles and Tucker used the knowledge of that situation to make her contact him and tell him about Allie. Jack also tells Ashley that Tucker was the one that found Allie and Ashley is upset that Tucker used Allie to get to the Abbott family. Ashley tells Jack that they must get Diane out of their lives before she causes Kyle any more pain. Jack struggles with how he is going to tell Kyle what Diane told him because it will break Kyle’s heart to learn Diane lied to him again. Jack isn’t sure how much of what Diane told him is true and how much is a lie.

Tucker is upset that Diane told Jack about their connection, but she explains she had to do damage control before Jack found out from someone else. Diane thinks Jack will be sympathetic because she is the victim in the situation. Tucker doesn’t think anyone will ever think she was a victim and she has ruined any progress she has made with Kyle. Tucker tells Diane that he isn’t done with her yet and he will make her life very difficult.

Ashley meets with Tucker and asks him to tell her the truth about what happened with him and Diane in Los Angeles if he wants her to consider giving him another chance.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Noah: Glam club. How can we make your night unforgettable, chance?

Chance: Well, you can reserve the best table in the house tonight for date night with my beautiful wife.

Noah: Consider it done. You and abby celebrating anything special?

Chance: Just the fact that she still loves me, considering I haven’t taken her out in centuries.

Noah: [ Chuckles ] Alright, I got you. I’ll make sure it’s a night you remember. You guys deserve it.

Chance: I appreciate you. Thank you.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Chance: Well, hi.

Abby: Hi, babe. I am so happy to see you. Today has been a complete nightmare in the kitchen. I mean, patricia I cut her finger. She had to go to the E.R. Then the dishwasher broke, so I’m back there scrubbing dishes. I don’t even want to talk about the little fire that I had to put out, but at least now I know how to clean a grease trap. What’s going on? What is this? Did I miss, like, a birthday or an anniversary or something? What is it?

Chance: Surprise.

Abby: Oh.

Noah: Hey, nate. Why are you here byyourself, man? Don’t you want to be part of the action?

Nate: I’m good.

Noah: Okay, well, if you want to vent about whatever’s going on —

Nate: Thanks, but I wouldn’t subject my worst enemy to what I’m holding back right now.

Lily: Hey.

Devon: Hey.

[ Sighs ]

Lily: Did you confront nate?

Devon: Yes, I did. And then I went for a drive to try and cool off afterwards, and that didn’t work. I just don’t understand for the life of me what the hell he was thinking, how he could look us in the eyes while he’s stabbing us in the back, and then throw around all these ridiculous accusations after the fact.

Lily: Like what?

Devon: He has the nerve to say that I drove him to betray us because I haven’t gotten over neil’s death.

Lily: What? I don’t even follow that logic.

Devon: Yeah. And then he said that I only want to be partners with neil, and that’s the reason why I shut down all of his ideas.

Lily: I see.

Devon: Why would I agree to do this merger with you if that were the case?

Lily: Yeah, I mean, well, it did take you a long time to come around to the idea.

Devon: It didn’t take me that long, and it’s a pretty big decision, so, yeah, I was going to take time to think about it.

Lily: Yeah, and we do keep our two areas of the company separate. I mean, we don’t have any projects together.

Devon: Okay. And you’re saying this why? You think he has a point or what?

Lily: No, no, no. Look, there is no justification to what nate did, okay? I’m not saying that you drove him to betray us.

Devon: Thank you.

Lily: But, I mean, I’m sure that you want a better relationship with your next coo, so… I don’t know, maybe it’s worth it to do some soul searching and see if there’s any truth to what he said about dad.

Devon: Okay. What I’d really like to do is change the subject, if you don’t mind, okay? We can talk about literally anything else. How about you catch me up on what’s been going on here?

Lily: Sure. Okay. Well, there have been some developments.

Tucker: Hey.

Audra: Hey.

Tucker: Sorry I’m late. Nikki newman made me an offer I couldn’t refuse, and it turned out she was setting me up.

Audra: For what?

Tucker: An interview with that journalist, talia morgan.

Audra: Wait, I know that name. She’s the reporter who wrote that article on diane jenkins. Why would you agree to be grilled by her after you had her series killed?

Tucker: Uh, show the world that I’m an open book. Nothing to hide, no one to fear.

Audra: [ Chuckles ] Bottle that self-confidence, and it can be your most profitable endeavor yet. But did you find out anything from nikki or her daughter?

Tucker: No, I was not able to verify that victoria is the ceo in cahoots with nate, but even if she was, she’s backed off now that he’s given away their plan. And the same would go for anyone colluding with him. So we need a new plan of attack. If you think all pads are exactly the same…

Chance: I got it all planned out. I got the night off, I cleaned up, got you some flowers.

Abby: Well, these are lovely, and you look even more handsome than usual, but I am a complete nightmare.

Chance: What? You look absolutely incredible. Are you kidding me? What’s sexier than a woman who works hard?

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: You’re the boss lady. You get things done. Let me take you out. Let me show you just how much I love you.

Abby: Mm, well, if you think I look good tonight, just wait until what I look like tomorrow night.

Chance: I can’t tomorrow night. I got a stakeout. I mean, I might be able to do the night after. I’m going to have to juggle some things around.

Abby: No, no, no, we’re closed for a private party. We need all hands on deck. I have to be here to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Chance: I miss you.

Abby: I miss you, too.

[ Sighs ] You know what? Let’s do this. Let’s do this tonight.

Chance: You sure? I mean, you said —

Abby: I know what I said, but there’s a time in my life when I would’ve shut that club down, and I think it’s important that I go there for noah to support him. Family first, right? I know that we have our own family, and I am crazy about being a mom, but that doesn’t mean that I’m going to stop being me, you know? I should still go out and have fun when I get the opportunity.

Chance: You absolutely should.

Abby: I think it’s important for our son to see his mom have a well-balanced, well-rounded life. So I’m going to go in the back and I’m going to work out some minor miracles, and then you better put out an apb.

Chance: Oh, yeah? Why’s that?

Abby: You better put genoa city on notice because the chancellors are going up tonight.

Chance: [ Sighs ]

Audra: I wish I had the perfect plan “b” for you. Chancellor-winters’ ipo was our best option. That is, if convincing devon to merge his years with yours for the controlling majority wasn’t just a pipe dream.

Tucker: Doesn’t matter if devon and lily have given up on it.

Audra: If they have, your only way in is to do something to undermine the company and force them to sell it to you in a hostile-takeover scenario.

Tucker: I hate that word “hostile” ’cause I’m anything but. I just operate under a different set of beliefs.

Audra: Oh, this I’m dying to hear.

Tucker: I believe in family and that some things are sacred. And there are only two people who should be running a katherine chancellor company.

Moi and her grandson. Everyone else is superfluous. So you need to figure out a way for me to set things right.

Noah: Well, I’m happy to play bartender and listen with an objective ear, offer some sound advice. Judgment-free zone.

Nate: Thank you, but I’m sure you have other customers to attend to.

Noah: That’s true, and I’ll attend to their needs, as well, but most of those people are strangers to me, nate. You’ve literally saved the lives of a lot of people I love, so…

Nate: I was a different man back then.

Noah: I doubt that. I hate seeing you beat yourself up like this.

Nate: There are plenty of people out there who believe I deserve it.

Noah: Sounds like you’re really going through it.

Nate: We all have our challenges, right?

Noah: Well, if it helps, we can compare troubles. I’m in a little bit of a situation myself. My ex-girlfriend, she’s back in town out of the blue. Part of me’s wondering what she’s really up to. She’s definitely trouble with capital “T.” And the other part of me is wondering if people can change. I kind of feel guilty for assuming the worst about her.

Nate: Look, I see what you’re trying to do here, noah, and thank you, but there’s no comparison. I don’t want to elaborate.

Noah: Alright, I got you. I won’t push. But if you need anything, just let me know, okay?

Nate: Thank you. Right now, I would just like a quiet drink alone.

[ Sighs ]

Devon: Alright, what are these new developments? Has someone else betrayed us?

Lily: [ Scoffs ] Yeah. Billy and I, we spoke to jill.

Devon: Mm, I’m sure that was fun. What did she have to say?

Lily: Oh, yeah, she was furious.

Devon: I bet she was.

Lily: Mm-hmm.

Devon: She merges her company with mine, and it takes, what, a week for nate to ruin every idea we had.

Lily: Oh, yeah, she definitely had some choice words for nate, that’s for sure. But what was surprising is that she wants to move forward with the ipo.

Devon: You’re kidding.

Lily: Only after we figure out where the other threat is coming from.

Devon: It doesn’t matter where the threat’s coming from. It opens us up to too much risk, as we just learned.

Lily: Okay, I understand your reluctance. I do. Trust me. But we don’t have the threat with nate anymore. He doesn’t have any shares to sell, so he can’t sell anything behind our backs.

Devon: Lily, it doesn’t matter what you say. You’re not going to convince me this is the right thing to do. I’m sorry. It’s just not.

Lily: Okay, look, let’s just table the ipo for now, and we’ll revisit it. I just — I want to talk about the family issue. I mean, this company was supposed to bring us together, and instead it’s torn us apart.

Devon: That’s not true. Company didn’t do anything to us. Nate did. And if you ever expect me to forgive him, you can stop ’cause it’s not going to happen. You can go ahead and exclude me from all the family holiday get-togethers if he’s going to be there, ’cause I won’t be. I’m done with him. He crossed a line that you don’t come back from. Listen, I’m done settling. Because this is my secret.

Lily: Devon, I am not asking you to forgive nate.

Devon: Well, that’s good.

Lily: Because I’m just as furious as you are.

Devon: I would hope you are, because what he did was an attack on your company, too. You know that, right?

Lily: I know that.

Devon: Good.

Lily: But I hate this. I hate it. This is our family. Like, we’re supposed to be stronger than this. I mean, how do we fix things?

Devon: Everything got fixed the day that he walked out of that door. You and I, we move forward together. Who cares what happens to him?

Lily: I mean, what happened between you two today?

Devon: It doesn’t matter, really, and I don’t want to talk about it. The only thing that you need to know is nate isn’t telling us who this other ceo is.

Lily: Well, who knows? Maybe when things calm down, he’ll come clean.

Devon: Don’t hold your breath. And my money’s on tucker still.

Lily: Even though he’s continued to deny it?

Devon: Yeah, absolutely, ’cause he says his main motivation for coming back to town is knowing that he has a grandson, and he’s known that for a year, so he picks the one week we’re going public? No.

Lily: I mean, like we said, it could be a coincidence.

Devon: Well, it’s a better chance that it’s just more betrayal from someone that we’re supposed to be able to trust.

Lily: Look, devon, I know that this hurts, and I know how much it’s costing us, but if you’re going to fight back, you have to do it carefully.

Devon: Yeah, I plan to.

Lily: Okay, good. So what are you going to do next?

Chance: Whoa.

Abby: [ Gasps ]

Chance: Not bad.

Abby: Wow. This place is incredible. I love the music, the color, the vibe.

Noah: Hey, you made it.

Abby: Hi. Come here. I am so sorry that we missed your opening night.

Noah: Don’t worry about it. You’re here now, and you two are my guests of honor.

Abby: Oh, stop.

Noah: No, come on. How often do you get to go out and have some child-free fun?

Abby: I mean, chance has been so busy, it’s kind of been like we’re two ships passing in the night. But you know what? We’re here now, so it’s all good. Mwah.

Noah: Well, as a special thank you for spending your night with us, I’m going to give you two the early bird special.

Abby: No way. I am offended. Yes, we might be here opening this club up tonight, but I assure you we will also be shutting it down.

Noah: Okay, I like a challenge.

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Noah: Alright, best spot in the house reserved for my two newest regulars.

Abby: Ooh.

Noah: First round’s on me.

Chance: Hey, thanks, man.

Abby: [ Chuckles ] Nate’s sitting all alone. Should we go say hi to him?

Noah: I wouldn’t recommend that. He’s not having the best day, apparently.

Chance: We’ll check on him later.

Abby: Okay, well, how’s allie? Where is she? I thought she’d be a regular at your club.

Noah: She was here earlier when she was on break from the lab but had to take off. But, you know, she’s good.

Abby: Is she really? ‘Cause I can sense something in your tone.

Chance: Oh, hey, detective abby, what are you doing? I thought we left the badges at home.

Abby: Okay, yes, I did, but I am still a nosy aunt. So how is allie really?

Noah: Couldn’t be better. Look, I should probably get to my other customers, but I’ll have a server bring over a signature cocktail, and you guys should go check out the multimedia art installation next door.

Chance: Alright. Thanks, man.

Abby: Nice. Okay, did you notice how noah tensed up when I mentioned allie? Do you think there’s something going on with them?

Chance: You know what? I didn’t even notice. You’ll have to forgive me. I’m out with my beautiful wife, and I just couldn’t stop staring at her beautiful face.

Abby: Mm.

Chance: Just keep asking myself, how did I get so lucky?

Noah: Three days ago, you said you were excited about going with me to this opening. All of a sudden you’re refusing?

Audra: Yes, because the gallery owner is a money-grabbing troll. Look, I have no respect for her.

Noah: You were just trying to get your own show there. What did you have this great epiphany?

Audra: Since I found out what she’s really looking for.

Noah: What is that? What is that? Some kind of dig at my work?

Audra: [ Chuckles ] Come on. Look, we both know the only reason you got this is because the owner wants to sleep with you.

Noah: Why? Why do you do this? What the hell is wrong with you, audra?

[ Cellphone rings ]

Audra: Anyone important?

Tucker: Very. Hey, what’s the latest?

Devon: Hey, I was just wondering if you had time to grab a drink tonight.

Tucker: Of course. Where?

Devon: How about we do the glam club?

Tucker: Perfect. See you there.

Devon: Alright, I’ll see you in a bit. Well, it’s all set.

Lily: Good.

Devon: Let’s see what kind of information I can finesse out of him. If you’re on medicare, remember,

Abby: This was a spectacular idea. I mean, when was the last time that the chancellors were out after dark without dominic, having some fun?

Chance: It was about time the earth was cooling [Chuckles] And I’m sorry about that.

Abby: We’ve both been busy. I get it.

Chance: And, hey, I know things were bumpy there for a minute, but we rallied just like I knew we would. We got right back on track.

Abby: Better than ever. I think this calls for a toast.

Chance: Oh, yeah?

Abby: Mm-hmm.

Chance: What are we drinking to?

Abby: To the lucky few who have found their perfect spouse. I love you.

Chance: I love you 10 times more.

Abby: Mm. Cheers.

Chance: Cheers

Abby: Really? He has to show up here tonight of all nights?

Chance: Just ignore him, alright?

Abby: If he showed up in town trying to stir things up with my mom —

Chance: Look, whatever happens with ashley, that’s her call, alright? And she is more than capable of taking care of herself.

Abby: Well, there’s someone else who’s even more important that can’t protect themselves that I’m worried about. That’s our son, dominic. At some point, tucker is going to want to meet him, and I do not want him anywhere near our family.

Chance: Hey, don’t do this to yourself, not tonight.

Abby: I know that you think I’m being some crazy, overprotective mom, but, I mean, yes, devon wants to have a relationship with his father, but even he doesn’t trust him as far as he can throw him.

Chance: Well, did devon say that tucker was going to be a danger to dom?

Abby: Devon said he thinks he has some sort of hidden agenda.

Chance: Well, maybe he’s had a change of heart.

Abby: Why would you say that?

Chance: Mm.

Tucker: Hey, good to see you, son.

Devon: Yeah, man, i appreciate you doing this.

Tucker: Anything for you.

Devon: Well.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: I wanted to make the most of this position I had been given, to be a full participant, for at least some of my ideas to be implemented. But it became clear that as long as devon could pull rank, that was never going to happen. So when a different opportunity presented itself, I grabbed it, took the initiative, set things in motion that would allow my voice to be heard and respected. Because I knew it was the only way I’d ever have a chance to prove myself.

Lily: But it wasn’t the only way, nate. It was a choice.

Nate: Yeah. So, uh…I guess that’s it.

Lily: Get out.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

Lily: [ Sighs ] Audra. Hi.

Audra: Mind if I join you?

Lily: No, please. I would love the company. But if you’re looking for an answer on whether we go public or not, I think you will be disappointed.

Audra: It pays to be prudent in situations like this. There’s a lot to consider. But if there’s anything I can do to help tip the scale, I’d be happy to lend an ear or make suggestions.

Lily: Yeah. I don’t know. I think I’m too blindsided to look at anything from a business standpoint right now.

Audra: I understand. This is a very complicated family issue for you. Every emotion that you’re feeling right now is absolutely valid.

Lily: Yeah. Well, I mean, it’s not just me. You know, devon and billy are just as furious. It’s like, we trusted nate, you know, and he let us down in the worst possible way. And, honestly, I feel like I can’t even talk to devon about it because I feel so guilty.

Audra: Why?

Lily: Because it’s my fault. You know? I proposed the merger. I encouraged nate to take the job. I convinced devon that we should go public. I mean, I thought we were protected from a hostile takeover, but who knew that it would come from our own inner circle?

Audra: I mean, no one ever does. You know, I’ve seen more backstabbing and betrayal in the corporate world than you can imagine.

[ Sighs ] It’s never pretty. I mean, from a stranger, you might expect it.

Lily: Yeah, but when it’s family…

Audra: It’s downright brutal.

Lily: You know what? Changed my mind. Why don’t you tell me whatever advice that you have?

Audra: Trust no one.

Tucker: Is there a problem? Is it the venue? Is it me?

[ Both chuckle ] Seem a little upset.

Devon: No, not at all. It’s not you. I actually specifically chose this place ’cause I thought I’d be able to avoid running into him.

Tucker: Oh, nate?

Devon: Yeah.

Tucker: Thought you two were tight.

Devon: Things changed.

Tucker: Well, if we stay here, I don’t think avoiding him is going to be an option. Super emma just about sleeps in her cape. and I’m going to tell you about exciting medicare advantage plans that can provide broad coverage and still may save you money on monthly premiums and prescription drugs. I get bladder leaks.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Devon: Don’t leave on my account. Please.

Nate: What I said about you and neil was the truth. One day, I hope you finally accept it.

Devon: Why don’t you leave neil’s name out of your mouth, since he’d be disgusted with you if he were alive?

Nate: Keep telling yourself that, but we both know the truth. Neil would want new blood, new ideas.

Devon: You don’t know a damn thing about what he would want for his company.

Abby: I think I should go over there. Maybe I can help.

Chance: No, honey, they are fine. They’re family. It’s an argument. Let them hash it out.

Abby: A couple of months ago, devon told me that he and nate were having some work-related issues. I thought they had resolved them, but clearly not. They’ve come to blows before.

Nate: You were the one who brought neil into this…

Chance: Alright, let me handle this.

Abby: No, no, no. I know them both really well.

Chance: Trust me, I’ll calm things down.

Nate: That’s what I think.

Devon: And this is coming from the guy who’s never ran a business a day in his life, right?

Nate: Wow. I know how to treat people with respect at least.

Devon: Respect?

Chance: Can I offer an opinion here?

Devon: If you had any bit of self-awareness, you’d actually be ashamed of what you did, but you’re not.

Nate: Me? Ashamed of what I did?

Devon: You have the nerve to stand here in front of me and point fingers like you’re the victim when you’re the one that crossed the line with your family.

Chance: Gentlemen. That’s enough. I don’t know what’s going on here, but this is not the place.

Devon: I agree. And you’re not worth any more of my time.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, you’re not worth my time, either.

Devon: Sorry about that.

Noah: Hey. Is there a problem?

Devon: No, man. Everything’s great. Couldn’t be better.

Lily: I mean, there have been occasions where I’ve made the mistake of trusting the wrong person, but I refuse to believe that I should be skeptical of everyone, you know? Like devon, for instance. I trust him completely. I would do anything for him, and I know he would do the same for me.

Audra: I admire that, truly, but I got a reminder today about putting too much faith in someone. There was a man in my life who I thought would never betray me, but then he disappeared from my life, moved on without even dealing with our unresolved feelings. I mean, of course he sees things differently and blames everything on me. I’m oversharing. Sorry.

Lily: No, no, no, please. It’s fine.

Audra: What I’m saying is, i sincerely hope devon won’t ever turn on you.

Lily: Why do you say that?

Audra: When money and power are involved, people’s true selves emerge. Their masks come off, and it’s not always pretty.

Lily: Well, I don’t know. I like to think that people can surprise us in good ways, too. That’s something that my father taught us and lived by. God, I wish you were here to help me fix this mess. He would know exactly what to do.

Audra: I’ve heard of neil winters. He was very well-respected.

Lily: Well, whatever you heard does not do him justice. I’m really sorry. I have to go.

Audra: One last piece of advice, if I may.

Lily: Yeah, sure.

Audra: I know you must be feeling a little traumatized right now, but in all the ipos I’ve worked on, very few companies have regretted taking that big step. Should the transgressions of one person with an ax to grind rob you of that glory?

Chance: [ Sighs ] Potential fight averted.

Abby: What the hell happened?

Chance: I don’t know. I think you were right, though. It did sound like it was work-related. But, hey, nate left, devon said he’s all good, so there shouldn’t be any more problems.

Abby: Well, you know whose fault this is, right? It’s tucker’S. That man is toxic. He poisons everything he comes in contact with.

Chance: I don’t know, honey. It kind of sounded like he was on the periphery of whatever this was, and his name didn’t even get brought up.

Abby: Well, he certainly didn’t do anything to cool it off.

Chance: I got an idea. How about we quit worrying about everybody else, and we get back to enjoying our night? Huh?

Nate: Last man you wanted to see, right? In fact, as far as you’re concerned, I’m probably public enemy number one. Tattoo studio gel pencil liner from maybelline new york.

Tucker: Hey, I don’t want to pry into what’s going on with you and nate, but, judging by your reaction, I’m guessing nate is the chancellor-winters insider who’s been sharing information with some predatory ceo?

Devon: That’s personal company information, tucker, and I’d really rather not talk about nate, if you don’t mind.

Tucker: Roger that.

Devon: Thank you.

Tucker: Hey, I’m happy you called. It’s good to see you. I felt like last time we got together, it kind of got off track.

Devon: Yeah, yeah. No, that’s — that’s really ’cause of me, and I apologize for coming at you so aggressively. I’m sure you can understand how it looked from my perspective to have you randomly show up in town the same week and find out there’s a mole in the company.

Tucker: Yeah.

Devon: So I think if I wasn’t suspicious, I’d be a fool, right?

Tucker: Right, right. I guess if I were in your shoes, I’d be pointing fingers at me, too. I’m just sorry that — although I’m not surprised, that anytime anyone hears my name in this town, they instantly conclude the worst.

Devon: Well, give me a break.

Tucker: No, it’s a nuisance, man. There’s nothing but rumors and innuendo. Nobody trusts me.

Devon: I mean, yeah. I think you kind of relish in that, though, ’cause it adds to your whole mystique.

Tucker: My mystique.

Devon: Yeah.

Tucker: Is that how you see me? Really?

Devon: I mean, I think that’s just how you are. You know, no one expects you to ever be the good guy, so you have to play by any rules. Sounds freeing, if you ask me.

Tucker: Yeah, I suppose being a ne’er-do-well has its advantages, but I’m very pleased that the apple has fallen far from the tree.

Devon: Is that right? Why do you say that?

Tucker: Well, because two guys exactly like me, that wouldn’t work. But the two of us balances everything out.

Devon: Yeah, I can — I can agree with that. I’ve actually been thinking that you and I should spend some more time together.

Tucker: Really?

Devon: Yeah. I know you’re a busy man, of course, but I have dominic this weekend and was wondering if you’d like to find some time to come and meet him.

Tucker: You kidding? Meeting my grandson means everything to me.

Devon: To me, too.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Chance: You know what I want to do?

Abby: What’s that?

Chance: I want to kiss you on that dance floor over there. You know what? I’ll kiss you in the art gallery. Doesn’t matter to me. What do you say?

Abby: Mm. I would love that.

Chance: That wasn’t a yes/no question.

Abby: Okay, so you assume that because I’m eavesdropping on tucker and devon’s conversation that I didn’t hear what my very handsome husband was saying?

Adam: Eh, something like that.

Abby: Let me clarify. I would like to kiss you on the dance floor and in the art gallery.

Chance: Ooh, with pleasure.

Abby: Mm.

Chance: I say we start in the art gallery. We can “ooh” and “ahh” at all the artwork.

Abby: Nice picture you’re painting, mr. Chancellor. I think I am the one who’s with the artist tonight.

Chance: Ooh.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Abby: Work?

Chance: It can wait.

Abby: Are you sure? ‘Cause, I mean, what if there’s some sort of crime spree in genoa city, and you are the only person who can stop it, but you and i are in the art gallery making out?

Chance: Ouf. I’m not going to lie. That does sound like something right out of an action movie. Alright, you convinced me. I’ll see what it is. Not urgent. You have my word. Genoa city will be safe for a few more hours. Now, before we head into this art gallery, I say we take a peek at this menu, see what other masterpieces they can whip up back there, because that last drink was actually pretty good.

Abby: That is a wonderful idea.

[ Sighs ]

Devon: Alright, so when do you think would be a good time to come and meet your grandson?

Tucker: Oh, you just tell me when you’re free. I’ll clear up my schedule. It’s not every day a man gets to meet his first grandson.

Devon: His first. No pressure. Hey, listen, no pressure at all to talk to me about what’s going on with nate. But I want you to know I’m a pretty decent sounding board. Alright? So it’s an open offer. You just let me know. I’m here. Whatever you need.

Devon: I appreciate that. And… you were right that nate is the one that sold us out. He lied to all of our faces and was ready to sit back and watch us lose everything that we built. You know, I just — I don’t, for the life of me, understand how someone who calls himself family could do something that malicious and that unforgivable.

Audra: If you’re worried about running into your potential enemies, you just missed lily.

Nate: Last thing I want is another run-in with top brass at chancellor-winters. I almost got into a fistfight with the devon tonight. And, frankly, I wouldn’t be shocked if you wanted to take a swing at me, too.

Audra: Why would I do something like that?

Nate: I’m the guy who potentially torpedoed your well-crafted plans for chancellor-winters.

Audra: True. I did have to put in some overtime figuring out what might come next, but trust me, I don’t consider you an enemy.

Nate: Why not?

Audra: Well, I’ve been in this cutthroat business world for a while now. I mean, I’ve seen it all, and there’s not much I take personally. In fact, I appreciate your creativity. This is gloria.

Audra: What’s with the look?

Nate: I feel like I should remind you of which side you’re supposed to be on.

Audra: Make no mistake. Look, I know very well who pays my bills. I’m not condoning what you did, but I appreciate a man who sings for the fences. You can’t win big unless you take chances.

Nate: Hmm. I see. You like to live dangerously.

Audra: Life is short, so you should grab every single morsel of excitement out of it. I want to know your story.

Nate: Why?

Audra: I’m curious to know why you did what you did.

Nate: Why would i share that information with you?

Audra: Because you look like you need someone to talk to. And I like an exciting story. Something tells me this one’s going to be a doozy. Pull up a chair. I want the inside scoop.

Nate: I guess I have a few things to get off my chest.

Audra: Mm.

Nate: But I know better than to think that anything I say here is going to stay between the two of us.

Audra: You’re underestimating my ability to keep a secret.

Nate: Mm. I will say this much. Maybe I made the mistake of putting business before family, but devon was so focused on family that it got in the way of the business.

Audra: Oh. In what way?

Nate: You know what? It’s a chancellor-winters issue. You should ask the man yourself. Although, he lacks the self-awareness to give you an honest answer.

Audra: That’s why I’m asking you.

Nate: Forget about it. I’m in this mess because I shared too much information with outsiders. I’m trying to learn from my mistakes.

Audra: [ Sighs ]

Tucker: I might not be the best guy to talk to about family loyalty given my business history with katherine. But I have changed since then, so you know.

Devon: Yeah, let’s hope so. No, it’s just the fact that the winters half of the company is what I created with neil, and it’s a piece of him that he left behind. And it means a whole lot to the family. And you would just think that it’d meant a little more to nate. That’s all.

Tucker: That’s interesting you should say that. Does that tie into what nate was saying regarding neil?

Devon: Why would you bring that up?

Tucker: Well, first of all, i don’t want it to be difficult for you to talk to me about neil. I know what he meant to you. He was dad, right?

Devon: Yeah. Yeah.

Tucker: Yeah. Also, I’m really — I’m really sorry that I wasn’t there for you when you lost him.

Devon: You really don’t need to apologize for anything. It’s completely fine. But, yeah, I mean, neil was everything to me. And, you know, when you share so many good memories with someone on top of a lot of dreams that didn’t have time to come true, how can it might affect you?

Tucker: Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah, it’s been difficult for you.

Devon: Sure, yeah. But not to the point where it’s held me back from anything. Nate said some nonsense about me not being able to move on from his death and how my connection to him is going to be the company’s downfall, ’cause, according to him, I’m convinced that no one could ever measure up to the legacy neil left behind.

Tucker: Well, is that true? I mean, is that why all this is affecting you so profoundly? Is he right? ‘Cause if he is, I think that you need to think long and hard about it and figure out a way to deal with your issues before they take down chancellor-winters.

Tucker: I hope this invitation means that you and i are — we’re on good terms. Like, we’re — there’s no grudges between us, no ill will between us.

Nikki: Well, that all depends on what happens going forward, since you seem to be staying in town for a while.

Tucker: I might, I might. I’m having a ball getting reacquainted with all the, um — what’d you call them? — The respectable families of Genoa City? And then, of course, to be invited here to the ranch, to sit with the grand dame of the community, well, that’s — that means a lot.

Nikki: That title does not belong to me. There is only one grand dame of Genoa City. Your mother.

Tucker: Ah, yes. The duchess. Yeah. Very respectable. Sorry. Did I offend you?

Nikki: No, no, not at all. But I’m afraid you

*******************************

Talia: So, now that you don’t have Nikki Newman to impress, maybe you can give me some real answers.

Tucker: Fire away. Just don’t ask about the rumor.

Talia: What rumor?

Tucker: Oh, there’s this nasty rumor going around that the real reason I came to town is to try to convince Victor Newman to build a rocket with me so we can launch ourselves into space. You know, it’s what billionaires are doing these days. But I probably should not have said anything, should I? Because you’re going to do an article with the headline “McCall and Newman shoot themselves into space.”

Talia: You should be so lucky. You have history with the Newman family, going head to head with Victor in business and personally

Tucker: I don’t think so because Katherine — when she died, she left the company to victor. So, there’s history there. Victoria would know that and try to honor it. Hey, Victoria. What a welcome coincidence. Ah, you look as lovely as ever.

Victoria: And you still have the same silver tongue.

Tucker: Can you join me? I’d love to catch up with you.

Victoria: I suppose that i can while I’m waiting for my takeout. It’s as good a way as any to pass the time.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] Allow me.

Victoria: I gather from your dramatic entrance at the Abbott’s that Ashley is the unfortunate recipient of your attention right now

***************************************

Victoria: On second thought, maybe it’s better that Ashley wasn’t there. Would’ve been really humiliating for you if she told you to go to hell in front of half of Genoa City’s movers and shakers.

Tucker: I don’t care what anyone thinks of me.

Victoria: Oh, please. You are the most image-conscience person that i know. You thrive on attention.

Tucker: And you don’t want to give me that satisfaction, do you?

V ictoria:   I  have nothing more to say about you.

Tucker: Okay, let’s talk about you, then. That whole Ashland Locke fiasco — what happened there?

Victoria: Well, I prefer not to think about that time.

Tucker: Ah. Well, I see. And yet you emerged from it all with Newman even stronger.

Victoria: It’s kind of you to notice.

Tucker: Oh, I’ve noticed everything you’ve done. I’m impressed with everything you’ve done with the company since you took over.

Victoria: I take it you were getting all of the business news while you were at the ashram?

Tucker: [Chuckles] I plead the fifth.

Victoria: What about the mystical experience? Did you glean any insight into yourself?

Tucker: You mean into my cold, black heart?

Adam: It’s — it’s a little complicated, and it’s probably gonna take some time for us to get used to the new family dynamic.

Connor: Mom wants us to be one big family, but we already are family. We don’t need Johnny.

Adam: You’re right. We are a family, Connor. And your mother knows that, too.

Connor: No, she doesn’t. Johnny has his own family. If she misses him so much, she never should have given him up in the first place

*********************

Connor: Mom is different now. She’d probably be happier if she had kept Johnny.

Adam: Mnh, no, that is not true, Connor

Connor: It’s like I’m not enough anymore. If she can’t have Johnny around, she doesn’t want anybody.

Adam: Connor, that is no t true.

Jack: So there is more to the story of your years in L.A. Than you admitted.

Diane: Yes. And I-I realized that I — I can’t keep hiding it from you.

Jack: So tell me this shameful secret. What is it? What happened?

Diane: Well, while I lived there, tucker and I did cross paths.

Jack: I see.

Diane: But it wasn’t anything that I wanted or — or that i planned. But he — he found out things about me.

Jack: Like what?

Diane: Things that… I had to do to survive. Things I’m not proud of. But, jack, before I tell you, please, you have to believe me that I had no choice.

Tucker: Nikki? Hello? Ah, there she is. I’m so happy you called.

Nikki: Tucker.

But I’m afraid you have misunderstood my invitation. This is not a social call. We will not be having tea and chitchatting. There’s someone I want you to meet. Tucker mccall… talia morgan.

Tucker: Ah.

Lauren: So, hey, how is your new product line going? Marchetti home.

Phyllis: Oh, it’s great. I’m killing. You know, not that I mean to brag, but I am killing.

Lauren: You don’t mean to brag, but you will.

Phyllis: Yeah. I wish the other reason why i was at marchetti was going as well as the actual job.

Lauren: Uh, yeah, getting rid of diane? Don’t tell me that has stalled.

Phyllis: It’s stalled, but it’s progressing. I mean, kyle and summer, they’re in costa rica. Now is the best time to get diane out of here.

Lauren: Oh, are you sure about that?

Phyllis: Yeah. I mean, when they come home, they’ll be in such marital bliss, they won’t even notice she’s not around.

Lauren: I don’t know about that, because from what I’ve seen about kyle, he has fallen for his mother’s reinvention, and he has fully accepted her into his life.

Phyllis: Yeah, I know he has. I can dream.

Lauren: Yes, you can. But you know what? I want you to get rid of diane because she is a sore spot in my household, too. And you know me. I can hold a grudge like the best of them.

Phyllis: Oh, and you know what? I love that about you.

Lauren: Well, thank you. Thank you. It’s michael. Michael has too much empathy. He has too much understanding for the human frailty.

Phyllis: What is wrong with him? Seriously, she has done me so wrong. She fakes her own death, she made her son believe that she was dead. I mean, that’s not just human frailty. That’s evil.

Jack: All the times I asked if there was more to your story. How many openings did I give you to tell the truth? Other people accused you of terrible things. I defended you.

Diane: I know, I know. And I — I feel awful that I put you in that position. But please, jack, just hear what I have to say before you pass judgment.

Jack: You want me to hear more of your excuses?

Diane: No, I want you to hear the truth.

[ Sighs ] I arrived in L.A. With the world thinking that diane jenkins was dead. The first thing I needed was a new identity, and I was able to find someone who would help me create a new persona.

Jack: Oh, how convenient for you.

Diane: Jack, I had no choice. In order to start over, I needed to become someone else. And there are people who do that sort of thing.

Jack: Oh, yeah — criminals.

Diane: What they do is illegal. But I needed a new social security number and driver’s license and birth certificate.

And taylor jenson was born. Or should I say reborn? To get that kind of documentation, you clearly had to assume the life of a dead woman.

Diane: It was the only thing I could think of to resume my life — my new life. I didn’t want to break the law. Not then and not now.

Jack: Stop with the excuses. Tell me what you did. And tonight’s winning numbers are 18, and I’m going to tell you about exciting medicare advantage plans that can provide broad coverage and still may save you money on monthly premiums and prescription drugs.

Diane: Shortly after I got settled in L.A. As taylor jenson, I met a man. He was charming and attractive. His name was jeremy stark. He, um… he sensed something broken in me. And I didn’t tell him where I’d come from, just that I’d been involved in a series of bad relationships. Which wasn’t a lie. He didn’t press for details. He just wanted me to know that my life could be good again.

Diane: Thanks for a lovely afternoon.

Jeremy: You’ll learn that every afternoon in california is lovely. Even when it rains, it’s a lovely rain.

Diane: Oh, the stroll up the beach in venice, and watching the dolphins play… fabulous lunch in malibu was… it was perfect.

Jeremy: You deserve it. It’s a big place, and I can’t wait to explore the rest of it with you, taylor. Hey. What’s the matter?

Diane: Uh, it’s just… it’s just been so long since I’ve had a — a good day. It feels relaxing and invigorating all at the same time.

Jeremy: Whatever happened to you, it’s in the past. You have your whole life ahead of you. You need to enjoy it. And I’m that person that’s going to make it happen.

Diane: He was kind and gentle and — and thoughtful. You know, I was not looking for a serious relationship, but I fell hard.

[ Chuckles ] You know, anyone who knows me probably wouldn’t be surprised. I… he was a wealthy jetsetter. And I do have a type.

Jack: So, was he the man in the bentley?

Tucker: Yeah, I know, ms. Morgan. By reputation only.

Talia: Likewise. But I’d like to begin by asking you a few questions about your future plans.

Tucker: Sure. You can ask me anything you want. Got nothing to hide.

Nikki: Well, I know that journalists like to speak to their subjects in private, so I’ll leave you to it.

Talia: Shall we sit?

Tucker: Yeah.

You have history with the newman family, going head to head with victor in business and personally.

Tucker: That’s correct. That’s excellent research on your part.

Talia: So if there is bad blood between you and the family, why do you think nikki newman encouraged me to write a profile of you? And now please welcome ana montoya.

Tucker: Well, look, if you want to write about me, I’m happy to accept the free publicity. But you said you wanted to learn about my current plans. And the newmans do not even remotely enter into what I have going now, so, uh… they’re in the past. If you want to talk about the present, let’s do it.

Talia: Fair enough. So do you have answers regarding why you’re divesting and liquefying so many of your assets? Are you downsizing? Getting ready to retire? Or perhaps do you have a major move in the works?

Lauren: You know, I am just so surprised that jack seems to have accepted diane back into his life wholeheartedly like nothing has ever happened.

Phyllis: Well, he was taking kyle’s lead. I mean, but he’s accepted her back. He was. I think jack is seeing diane for who she really is. I mean, I don’t know. I just sense he’s being polite now, but he’s definitely holding back.

Lauren: Are you sure about that? She’s been trying to worm her way back into his life through kyle and harrison. They’re now working in the same building. She’s coming at him from all sides.

Phyllis: I know, I know. But before I came here, I overheard jack in his office, and he said that his doubts are starting to reignite regarding diane.

Lauren: Oh. That’s a step in the right direction. What brought that on?

Phyllis: Ashley.

[ Chuckles ] It seems that there’s a diane-tucker connection.

Lauren: What? I haven’t heard about this.

Phyllis: There’s a theory going around that the two of them were connected up in los angeles.

Lauren: Wow.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Lauren: And you subscribe to this theory?

Phyllis: For sure. For sure I do. I mean, it’s diane. I mean, ashley told this to jack. He thought it was a rumor. He brushed it off, but it definitely resonated. Now he has doubts about diane. I mean, we just need to give him a little nudge in the right direction.

Diane: Jeremy was an international financier. He flew around the world finding opportunities and making deals.

Jeremy: Well, I didn’t think the deal was going to close, but you are now looking at the third-largest distributor of automotive parts in eastern europe.

Diane: Wow! That must explain all the paparazzi outside.

[ Both laugh ]

Jeremy: I know, it doesn’t sound like much, but it’s huge.

Diane: No, no. Congratulations.

[ Glasses clink ] Between this and that australian land you acquired last week, you are on a roll. You’re going to spoil me with all this good champagne.

Jeremy: I hope so. Mmm.

Diane: Jeremy, what is this?

Jeremy: Open it and find out.

Diane: Oh, it’s — it’s lovely, but what is it?

Jeremy: It’s a private island. I’m going there tonight for a meeting, and I’d like you to join me there tomorrow.

Diane: Oh. That sounds amazing, but I — I can’t go on such short notice.

Jeremy: [ Scoffs ] Why not?

Diane: Oh, come on. I know the circles you travel in. I’m not prepared for that. I don’t — I don’t have anything to wear. And even my luggage is all beat up.

Jeremy: Oh, that doesn’t matter. You look fabulous as is, and you know that. But if you’re concerned, you can reach out to my assistant, francesca. Tell her what you need. She’ll do all the shopping. All you have to do is be ready for my car to pick you up at noon tomorrow.

Diane: It was a whirlwind. It was a fantasy come true. It was wonderful and romantic, and it was the first of many. He traveled a lot for business, and he would invite me to join him on these spur-of-the-moment trips. And he took care of all the arrangements.

Jack: Very generous of him.

Diane: Yeah. For, uh… for the first time, I felt taken care of. Like, um… like I had found something that had been missing in previous relationships. But, um, what I didn’t realize until it was too late… is that was his trick. Dupixent helps you du more with less asthma.

Jack: I’m not sure i understand how showering someone with gifts and exotic travel is a trick.

Diane: I always flew alone. I met jeremy at the location. We never traveled together, and I didn’t think much of it at first. He said he wanted to get there early so he could get the boring business stuff out of the way so that we could enjoy ourselves.

Jack: And that wasn’t true?

Diane: Not exactly. It went on for months like this.

Jack: And you knew nothing about it?

Diane: You know what? I hear that skeptical tone in your voice, but, no, I didn’t know. I didn’t know until a trip to barbados. Jeremy was late meeting me at the airport, and I was just looking in my suitcase for something, and I saw stacks of 100-dollar bills, and I-I put them back. And later, when he thought I was taking a nap, I saw him remove them, and then I followed him to a bank. I realized what was happening. I was shocked… and devastated. But I waited until we were safely back in L.A. Before confronting him.

Jeremy: Going on a trip tomorrow. You up for it?

Diane: Where to?

Jeremy: Mm. Someplace special. I know you’ll enjoy it. I promise. Just be ready by 3:00.

Diane: Okay. I just have one question.

Jeremy: What is it?

Diane: How much cash do you plan to hide in my suitcase this time? Should I bring the carry-on or take two large suitcases? I — I just thought it would help if I knew so I could plan. I trusted you, jeremy. I even thought I was falling in love with you. But you’ve been using me as a money-laundering mule.

Jeremy: You’re overreacting, taylor. I’m sorry. The fantasy has been shattered. But this relationship does not have to end.

Diane: Yes, it does. It’s over. I’m not going to do your dirty work for you. You’ve been putting me in danger.

Jeremy: Calm down.

Diane: No.

Jeremy: I’ve invested a lot in you.

Diane: Oh, my god.

You’ve taken me on a couple of trips. That doesn’t buy you my loyalty to commit crimes for you. I won’t tell the authorities about you, but we are done.

Jeremy: We are not done. Social security numbers of dead people don’t come cheap.

Diane: I don’t know what you’re talking about.

Jeremy: The man who arranged your new identity? He works for. Now you do, too, diane jenkins.

Diane: [ Scoffs ]

Jeremy: I can imagine that there are a lot of people who’d be very interested to know that you are alive and well. So, if you don’t want that kind of trouble, you’ll keep doing what you’ve been doing.

Diane: He was nothing but a con man. My meeting him wasn’t a coincidence. He never cared about me. It was just part of his system. You know, his — his way of recruiting people that he could control. He had all the leverage. He could expose my lies and tell the world that I was alive. Jack, I was trapped.

Lauren: Honey, I’m worried about you.

Phyllis: Why?

Lauren: Because if jack finds out that you are any way connected with diane’s downfall, this whole thing’s gonna backfire. He’s gonna be so angry. Especially considering what it could do to kyle.

Phyllis: Boo! I made my peace with that. I’m resigned to him being mad at me again. It is more important to me that my friend and my daughter know the truth about diane. It is more important to me that I am protecting them. Jack should thank me for being such a great friend.

Lauren: And you are sure this is the best way to handle it?

Phyllis: Yes, it’s the only way. Lauren, it’s the only way. Come on. If it keeps jack away from that she-devil and it keeps my daughter safe, this is the right thing.

Kyle: I think I still have sand in my hair. Can you check it for me?

Summer: Let’s see. Oh, yeah. You have sand everywhere. That shower did nothing. You’ve got some color on your face, too?

Kyle: I was worried the spf was too low and… ooh! I think you got a little too much sun.

Summer: Where?

Kyle: Right here. And… ooh, right here.

Summer: [ Laughs ]

Kyle: And right here.

Summer: Mmm. Was that supposed to help me with my sunburn?

Kyle: Mmm, I’m just trying to decide where I should rub some aloe vera. But if you don’t like it, then…

Summer: Oh, hey, wait. I didn’t say stop.

Kyle: Mm, mm-hmm.

Summer: I think you, uh — I think you missed a spot.

Kyle: Oh.

Summer: Right here.

Kyle: Oh. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.

Summer: And here.

Kyle: Oh, okay.

Summer: [ Laughs ] And right here.

Kyle: Oh, yeah. Yeah. If you still have symptoms of moderate

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Even though some

things are far away,

Jack: So how did you get out of his well-laid trap?

Diane: I guess you could call it fate. I continued carrying money out of the country for him. We — we continued the trips. You know, I-I pretended I was his lover, but I couldn’t stand to be in the same room with him. And then, one day, he demanded that we meet at our usual spot.

Diane: Why do we have to meet here? I mean, I’ll do the work, but can’t we quit the charade that we’re a couple, especially in L.A.?

Jeremy: Sit down. I’m about to be arrested.

Diane: How do you know?

Jeremy: A friend of mine tipped me off from the justice department.

Diane: Oh, my god. Do you know when this is gonna happen?

Could happen next week, could happen tomorrow… could happen before I finish this drink. Now, I don’t think you’re in danger because you’re a small fish. But they could use you to get to a bigger fish. That can’t happen. Do you understand? If they question you, you keep your mouth shut. Got it? I’ll do the same for you.

Diane: But what if —

[ Sirens approaching ]

Jeremy: Get out of here. Now!

Jack: Wow. Lucky you.

Diane: I didn’t feel lucky. I was terrified. His whole operation came to light in the investigation. The trial and the preparation took four years, and I was on pins and needles the whole time. I was — I was certain there would be a knock at my door and — and I would be implicated.

Jack: How were you not?

Diane: Well, the fact that we never flew together made it hard to connect us. But it was a huge wake-up call. I was determined after this experience to get my life on the right track. Jack… I need you to believe me. Everything I have told you about that part of my journey is true. I always… I always thought that, um… you know, a rich husband would solve all my problems. But after jeremy, I realized that’s just wrong, that I needed to take care of myself. And that’s what drove me to get the help I needed. I mean, I swore that — that if I got out of this mess that I would do everything in my power to reconnect with kyle, who I had missed every day. And that’s what kept me going for years.

Jack: And I guess I could assume by your being here a free woman that you managed to evade the law.

Diane: That’s right. Once jeremy was convicted and in prison, I was able to relax and focus on getting back to genoa city and getting back into kyle’s life. And that’s when tucker showed up.

Tucker: I wouldn’t read too much into my latest maneuvers. I’m buying and selling and investing and divesting all the time. The business world moves fast, and so do I. Are you sure I can’t get you something?

Talia: No, thanks. That is another non-answer.

Tucker: Ah. Okay. Um… let’s say I’m clearing a path.

Talia: To what?

Tucker: Who knows? Sometimes you just have to, uh…make room for whatever will be revealed.

Talia: Did you learn that at the ashram?

Tucker: I did. Very good.

[ Chuckles ] Excellent research on your part yet again.

Talia: So, what have you been doing since you left thailand? I know you spent some time in L.A. Did you have business there? Do you own a home? What do you enjoy doing when in town? My readers would love to know.

Tucker: Well, uh… I, uh — I go to the hollywood walk of fame and venice beach and the capitol records building and brown derby. All the hotspots, you know?

Talia: The brown derby has been closed for about 30 years.

Tucker: Is that right? Wow. That would explain the slow service.

Talia: All right. I have things to do. If you ever do get serious, I would love to interview you.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] Wow. How quaint. Well, in this case, I’ll definitely be in touch. Take care. You can come out now, nikki. Would you like to explain what that was all about?

[School bells]

Diane: Tucker was the man in the bentley.

Jack: You were being blackmailed from two different directions.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: I’m almost afraid to ask. What did he want from you in return?

Diane: Tucker was considering a return to genoa city to rekindle things with ashley.

Jack: He’s a fool.

Diane: Yes, and he wanted a way in with the abbotts. And that’s when he found allie.

Jack: Wait. Tucker’s the one who discovered keemo and allie?

Diane: That’s right. He thought I could be of help to him here, so he offered me the information about the house as a way for me to reconnect with you and kyle.

Jack: And what was he expecting from you in return?

Diane: [ Sighs ] Well, he — he wanted me to keep tabs on ashley. You know, her romantic status, work, travel plans.

Jack: Wait. You originally came to town to spy on my sister?

Diane: No! No, jack. Ca– can’t you see the situation I was in? I had worked so hard to turn my life around — years and years of effort and — and therapy so that I could be with my son again. This was my chance. And — and I couldn’t risk tucker revealing that I was a lie before I had a chance to do it myself. I could’ve gone to jail. And then kyle would have found out that I’d faked my death without me being able to explain it to him. So I — so I agreed to help tucker. Okay? I sold all of the expensive gifts that jeremy had given me, and I used the money to buy keemo’s house. You know everything after that.

Summer: How good are our lives right now?

Kyle: Mm. Our lives are perfect.

Summer: [ Breathes deeply ] I have loved you for so long. We’ve known each other for what feels like forever, and… all that time, I haven’t known how we were going to end up together, but…it always felt inevitable.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ] It did. And now we have everything we could ever want. We have each other, harrison, family, work. Could it get any better?

Summer: I don’t know. We both had personal issues that we had to deal with before we came here. You with adam, me with my dad and sally.

Kyle: Yeah, minor bumps in the road. That stuff barely even bothers me anymore. It was perfectly fine, and I owe that to you and harrison. I know the two of you are in my corner, so nothing else matters.

Summer: That’s so sweet. But it’s not entirely true.

Kyle: What?

Summer: Kind of hurts me to say this, but… I feel like you never felt truly whole until diane came back. And it makes sense, right? The mother you thought you lost back in your life?

Kyle: Guess I hadn’t thought about it like that. But… having her around does make me feel more at peace. I think that’s because I finally have some answers. There’s not as much uncertainty. No more unfinished business.

Summer: Mm.

Kyle: I think I was always looking for something that was just out of reach or lurking in the shadows.

Summer: And you’re not anymore?

Kyle: Mnh. That’s why I can focus on all the positive things in my life.

Summer: Well, I’m glad it’s worked out because, to be honest, when she first showed up, I was afraid it was gonna be a real mess.

[ Both laugh ]

Kyle: I know you did. But thanks for giving her the space and time to prove herself. You were supportive but never dictated how I was supposed to feel about any of it. You let me figure it out on my own. You were awesome.

Summer: Were awesome? Did I stop being awesome?

Kyle: Oh. No, no, no, no.

Summer: [ Laughs ] Okay. I didn’t think so. I — I’m still awesome. And don’t ever forget it.

Kyle: Never.

Summer: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: I-I-I don’t even know what to say.

Diane: Jack, I — I was trapped, first by jeremy and then by tucker. I — I was forced to behave in ways that I would never do under normal circumstances. But it was — it was about survival. And I — and it was about my need as a mother to reconnect with my son. And I was willing to do whatever it took. Please tell me you understand. I am so sorry. But phyllis and nikki were determined to dig up dirt on me, and — and I knew that this would be discovered sooner or later. I just wanted you to hear it from me.

[ Knock on door, door opens ]

Phyllis: Hi. Uh, am I interrupting something? Is everything okay?

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Tucker: Did you expect me to believe that little song and dance there was for a real article, some puff piece about my future plans?

Nikki: What would I know about talia’s assignments?

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. It’s funny — she was asking about my business in L.A., And it’s pretty common knowledge that most of my business is done internationally. But everyone seems very concerned about what I’m doing in los angeles. And by “everyone,” I mean you.

Nikki: I’m not sure what you’re referring to.

Tucker: Oh, nikki… I love a good cat-and-mouse game, especially with you. But I think it would be best if we just lay our cards on the table here. You and your friends have a theory that I’m somehow connected with diane jenkins. Right? So you’re siccing the reporter who did an exposé on her onto me.

Nikki: Out of respect for katherine, I want to treat you fairly.

Tucker: You sure have a funny way of showing it.

Nikki: I would like to think that you’re smart enough to avoid diane jenkins at all costs. Yet there is something in my head that tells me that there is a connection between the two of you. And you know what she did to me and my family. So you should certainly understand why I don’t want her in genoa city.

Tucker: But what does that have to do with me?

Nikki: If you are collaborating with her, I want to know why and what she is after. If she is planning to harm anybody that I care about, I will hold you personally responsible. Now, I would like to believe that if you knew something that would help me protect my loved ones, you would step up and give me the information.

Tucker: Yeah. I would really like to help, nikki, but… sorry, I can’T.

Jack: Everything is fine, phyllis. What is it you need at this exact moment?

Phyllis: Oh, it’s no hurry. None at all. Um, not important. I’ll come back at another time. Okay? Is everything okay, diane?

Diane: Yes, everything’s fine, just like jack said.

Jack: Well, I have an appointment I’m late for. We’ll continue this later.

Phyllis: I bet you’re looking forward to that. I don’t know what went down here… but it doesn’t seem too good for you.

Next week on “the young and the restless.”

Phyllis: Trust me when I say diane is at her tipping point. It’s only a matter of time before she snaps.

Nick: Newman enterprises has decided to replace you and chloe at newman media.

Adam: Are you okay?

Adam: [Sighs] Look, what are you still doing here, Nick? I hope you didn’t get us locked on this roof because there’s not enough food or champagne if we get stranded here.

Nick: Don’t tempt me. I just might lock you up here all alone, unless you’re straight with me.

Adam: Look, may I suggest that we have this intense conversation another time? Because I am really not in the mood.

Nick: Well, you better get in the mood, Adam. I’m not leaving here unless i get some answers. What is the matter with you? Why would you lure Sally up here under false pretenses?

Adam: Well, based on your question, I gather that while i was up here waiting for the sun to come up, Sally ran to you to spill her version of the story.

Nick: Yeah. I talked to her.

Adam: Oh, good. Should I even bother getting up? If I do, are you just gonna knock me back down?

Nick: I did not come up here to fight with you. But I want to make sure we’re clear about something. We are not going to put Sally in the middle of yet another brother-against-brother feud.

********************

Nick: Hey. Did you hear me?

Adam: Of course I did. I mean, when Nick Newman makes one of his heroic declarations, everyone listens. Except this one fell a little flat because Sally isn’t in the middle of anything, Nick, since I can’t compete with my great and noble big brother.

Nick: Come on, man.

Adam: No. I mean, really. Please proceed on your chivalrous crusade and keep playing the role of the protector to the hilt.

Nick: I heard about this little stunt last night while Sally was still here. Did you see me rush over here to come to her rescue?

Adam: Why is that? Was your, uh, cape at the dry cleaner?

Nick: I just figured you two needed some time to work out some things, so I gave you some space. But I need to know going forward, do I need to protect her from you?

Adam: [Scoffs] Please relax. I’m not a glutton for punishment. And I can take a hint. Alright? Sally has made her choice, and I’m not gonna beg. I know I can’t force her to forgive me.

Nick: Well, I’m glad you finally realized that.

Adam: So, you and Sally are free to do whatever the hell you want together. And I guess I’m destined to lose everything I want and I care about to one sibling or the other. It’s called “the curse of the black sheep.”

Daytime Soap Opera Short Recaps

Recap written by Eva

Kyle and Summer enjoy some romantic time on their honeymoon and later Kyle tells Summer that he feels more at peace since Diane came back into his life.

Nikki gets Talia to do a profile on Tucker for the magazine for which she works but Tucker doesn’t give her any useful information for her article.

Diane tells Jack that when she lived in Los Angeles she dated and fell in love with a financier named Jeremy Stark. Diane explains to Jack that he took her on two trips with him and for the first time in her life she felt like someone was taking care of her. Diane tells Jack she later found out that Jeremy was hiding a lot of money in her suitcases, and when she arrived at her destination, he would deposit the money in the bank. Diane told Jeremy she knew that he was using her, and she didn’t want to do it anymore. Jeremy then told Diane that she would keep working for him or he would contact her family and tell them she was alive. Jeremy asked to meet with her one day and told her that a friend in the Justice Department told him he would be arrested soon, and when he heard the police cars coming, he told her to leave so she wouldn’t be arrested. Diane tells Jack that six months before she started sending him those text messages, she saw Tucker in Los Angeles and he told her he had found Allie. Tucker wanted Diane to find a way to tell the Abbott’s about Allie or he would turn her in to the police as Jeremy’s accomplice. Jack is stunned by everything Diane has told him, but since Phyllis interrupts their conversation, he tells Diane they will continue their conversation later and he walks out of his office.

Jack: Well, I’m less than thrilled, but it’s a necessary evil.

Tucker: Yeah. And I appreciate your candor, as always. I know you’re not thrilled about my coming back to town and trying to reconnect with Ashley.

Jack: No, but I am pleased with your lack of progress in that regard.

Tucker: So you must have enjoyed her storming out just now.

Jack: Well, I would have preferred she throw a drink in your face, but storming out we’ll have to settle for.

Tucker: Yeah, I know you’re protective of her and i appreciate that. I admire it, actually. It’s exactly how I would feel in your situation. But my wanting to make amends with her is genuine ’cause, Jack, my relationship with her is the best thing that ever happened to me.

************””””** *******”””

Sharon: Because there is a pattern here, Nick. You and Adam tend to pursue the same women — Chelsea, me, and now Sally.

Nick: Well, obviously, we have excellent taste.

Jack: I wish you didn’t even have to give him the time of day, but I understand your intent. So, where is he?

Ashley: Well, that’s the kicker. I think the bastard stood me up.

Chloe: Well, someone invited her, and she’s at the Grand Phoenix rooftop right now meeting that person.

Chloe: Ohh, you know, I-I don’t know what is happening, but I don’t have a very good feeling about this.

Nick: Let’s — let’s calm down. I’m sure it’s a misunderstanding.

Chloe: Well, I’m not sure how that could be. Because Sally gets this fancy invitation delivered by a courier, and who would go to those lengths just to mislead her?

Both: Adam.

Tucker: Hey. Good time? Bad time? Sure as hell been a long time.

Adam: So it has. Come on in.

Tucker: Thank you.

Adam: I, uh, heard about your dramatic return, the little stunt with the helicopter.

Tucker: Oh, yeah, the stunt. Well, I was late for the ceremony, you know, and wouldn’t want to be thought of as rude. You know how the righteous people in this town like to cluck their tongues.

Adam: Yeah, I think you just like being unpredictable.

Tucker: Ah, look who’s talking. Choosing to work here instead of at Newman. Victor must have had an apoplectic fit.

***********************************************

Ashley: Huh. Has Tucker changed? As in, is he capable of having an epiphany about anything ever?

[Both laugh]

Traci: I will take that as a “no.”

Ashley: Well, he’s a narcissist, right? I mean, look at the way he disrupted Kyle and Summer’s vow renewal ceremony. It was so incredibly obnoxious. And I don’t believe he had an awakening after he crashed his fancy car and then he went to an ashram. Just two exotic things he can check off his bucket list.

Traci: I imagine he’s lying to himself to some extent, don’t you think?

Mariah: Excuse me. We are looking for the owner of the hottest new club in town. Do you know where he might be?

Tessa: Yeah, he had this super-swanky opening, but I heard that there were invited guests that didn’t come.

Mariah: Yeah, and I’m sure that those two losers have a very viable reason.

Noah: Okay, let’s hear the sob story.

Mariah: We are so, so sorry we missed the opening night, but we had to get some paperwork in for the adoption attorney.

Tessa: We got you a gift. Will you ever forgive us?

Noah: Depends on what you got me.

Mariah: That is a “reserved” sign, which I would like you to install on whatever the best seats are in the house. They’re for us, of course.

Tessa: Mm-hmm.

Mariah: We — we’re your gift.

Noah: Got it. Thank you.

Chelsea: Wait a second. Since when is sitting on a bench and enjoying some sunshine an ambush?

Billy: Well, what would you call it?

Chelsea: A lovely afternoon till you showed up.

Billy: Right, so you weren’t sitting here, waiting for my son to show up so you could talk to him about being his mother? Because that’s what he said happened.

Chelsea: I bumped into him by chance. I did not accost him.

Billy: That’s not how he took it.

Chelsea: I just wanted to make sure he was alright.

Billy: By pushing him to bond with Connor as his brother, Chelsea?

Chelsea: No, no, that was not the reason.

Victor: Tucker McCall. I want you to find out why he suddenly returned to Genoa City.

Michael: [Chuckles] From what I hear, he made quite the grand re-entrance. He certainly wasn’t sneaking around or being private about his plans. What is it you want me to dig into?

Victor: He says he’s here to mend fences with Ashley, to reconnect with his son Devon, and meet his grandson. I don’t trust any of this. But I’m gonna make sure that he will not do any harm to Ashley or that boy.

Michael: That’s very chivalrous of you. I imagine Ashley could hold her own and since Tucker would have to go through Abby to get to Dominic, I’m guessing the little guy is pretty well protected, too. But what ulterior motives do you suspect the man of having?

***********”**********”””””***”*

Tucker: Right. So, I went back to the company and — and thrill seeking, which led to the accident. But it all forced me to — to realize what I’ve been missing, the love and the life that I had right in front of me and I just let slip away. And when you ended the marriage, you said to me, “the only way i would ever trust that you’re not gonna hurt me again is if you went through some kind of miraculous change, if you became some completely different man.” Do you remember that?

Ashley: Mm.

Tucker: And you didn’t believe it, right?

Ashley: I remember it very well. I remember it.

Tucker: Well, I’m here to tell you it’s possible ’cause I stand before you a completely different man.

Tucker: Hello, Nikki. Anything interesting going on in the world?

Nikki: My, my, Tucker McCall. You just keep popping up everywhere, don’t you?

Tucker: Yeah, sorry we didn’t get a chance to have a chat at your granddaughter’s event.

Nikki: I don’t think you’re the least bit sorry. You were too busy making a spectacle of yourself.

Tucker: Mm. I wouldn’t put it quite that way.

Nikki: No? How would you describe it?

Tucker: A spirited homecoming.

[Both scoff] Memorable one at that, no?

Nikki: Oh, yes. Even when you’re infuriating, you are charming. Some things never change.

*******************************

Diane: I agree that Tucker’s gift was all wrong, but it’s obvious why he chose it.

Phyllis: Oh. Really? Please tell me what was obvious. I’d love to get your take on this.

Diane: Well, he made a point of reminding everyone that John Abbott had a Bentley. You know, clearly, he was trying to score points, calling back the beloved family patriarch, trying to impress everybody with his generosity and thoughtfulness, as if that could erase the bad taste he left in everybody’s mouth.

Sharon: Hi. Is everything okay?

Mariah: Is it that obvious that something’s going on?

Sharon: Well, you two look a little anxious.

Tessa: Yeah, we kind of are.

Mariah: Christine asked us to meet her here.

Sharon: Is that about the adoption?

Mariah: Yeah, she helped us set up a profile that we put online.

Sharon: Yeah, I remember you mentioned that. It’s some kind of national database.

Mariah: Yeah, and our posting hasn’t been up that long,

Tessa: But if the right expectant mother sees it.

Mariah: Not if, okay? When. This is going to happen.

Tessa: Yes. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I will stay positive. It’s just hard after the experience with the first lawyer.

Mariah: Who said that our chances of being considered as adoptive parents was virtually zero considering our colorful pasts.

Sharon: Don’t let that discourage you. That’s one person’s opinion. You two are a wonderful, loving couple.

Mariah: Right. And any baby would be lucky to have us.

Sharon: They would, you know. That’s why I keep saying it. You can tease me all you want to, but it’s the truth.

Christine: Hi.

Tessa: Hi, christine.

Mariah: What’s — what’s going on?

Christine: I have news. Good news.

Jack: I’m glad you could free yourself up from the lab to be part of that presentation. I thought it would be a learning experience for you.

Allie: Yeah, yeah, it was really interesting to see how the moisturizing serum that I’ve been working on is going to be marketed.

Jack: You know, you may be able to follow in ashley’s footsteps, building a career that combines being a scientist and an executive. I think you could make a heck of a businesswoman. Or not. Maybe — maybe the board’s not for you.

Allie: No, it’s not that, jack. It’s just that when you said “businesswoman,” it made me think of someone in particular.

Jack: Someone you’re not terribly fond of.

Allie: It’s noah’s ex, audra. She got some finance job here in genoa city.

Jack: And you’d rather she found employment elsewhere.

Allie: Well, she says that she’s here just for the job and that he has nothing to do with it, but I’m just not so sure. I don’t know. She keeps showing up wherever he is.

Jack: So what does noah say?

Allie: Well, noah says that he wants nothing to do with her.

Jack: Well, there. You have no reason to be concerned.

Allie: It’s not that simple. Oh, she is very assertive and glamorous and, well, they have this history.

Jack: It is hard for me to imagine her being more glamorous than you are.

Allie: Come on.

Jack: No, I mean that. She and noah split up for a reason. Everyone knows how much he adores you. Don’t let this situation make you feel insecure.

Allie: Thanks, jack. I really needed to hear that.

Jack: And if this woman gives you any grief, you give it right back.

Allie: You know what? I just might do that.

Noah: Okay, first event with live music, so everything’s going to be right on point. So if the sound engineers want to come in a little bit early, please make sure you’re here to let them in.

Woman: Got it.

Noah: Alright, thank you. Hey. What are you doing here? Thought we agreed to keep our distance.

Audra: I didn’t come to start a fight with you, noah. It’s the last thing I need.

Ashley: I told jack all of it — how the bentley connects to tucker and diane and being in los angeles.

Nikki: And how did he react?

Ashley: Calm as a cucumber. Didn’t faze him at all.

Phyllis: Mm, I wouldn’t be too sure about that.

Nikki: Wait a minute. Do you know something we don’t?

Phyllis: Well, I just think that jack is starting to have doubts about diane’s whole reformed act that she’s pedaling all over town.

Allie: Is that a hunch, or is that actually based on specifics?

Phyllis: It’s strong intuition is what it is.

Ashley: Oh, that?

Phyllis: Yeah, well, we need to get him to our side. We need incriminating evidence…

Ashley: I agree.

Phyllis: …Yes, that tucker and diane were in L.A. Together, collaborating.

Nikki: And what was the nature of that collaboration? Was it something personal? Was it a moneymaking scheme? And how does that play out now that they’ve both returned to genoa city?

Audra: Devon and lily are gonna postpone the ipo while they sort things out.

Tucker: Oh, that’s to be expected, I suppose. We’ll just have to be patient. You’ll keep me apprized, of course.

Audra: Of course. But there’s a larger problem than the delay.

Tucker: Oh, let me guess. Some mysterious ceo who’s as interested in taking over chancellor-winters as I am.

Audra: That’s right. Any thoughts on the identity of the interested party?

Tucker: Mm. Many. But one name keeps coming to the surface — victoria newman.

Audra: That would be a reach, I think.

Victoria: I gather from your dramatic entrance at the abbott’s that ashley is the unfortunate recipient of your attention right now.

Diane: Oh, have you seen the photos from kyle and summer’s first day of their honeymoon?

Jack: Yeah, I just looked at those. Seem to be enjoying themselves immensely.

Diane: It’s such an idyllic setting. They look so happy and so in love.

Jack: I’m glad they’ve taken the time off from work and everything else that’s going on.

Diane: By “everything else,” I gather that you still think tucker and I led some sort of secret life in L.A.?

[ Sighs ] I see you’re not denying it. You’re doubting my honesty all over again because of phyllis. I just — I hate that she’s turning you against me.

Noah: What’s the problem? Audra, it’s me. I know something’s wrong.

Audra: My consulting project isn’t going as planned.

Noah: I’m sorry to hear that, but, you know, why come here?

Audra: Where I know I’m not wanted, you mean? Rather than, I guess, sitting in my hotel room, I wanted to sit someplace vibrant and just figure things out.

Noah: I assume you’ll have your usual.

Audra: I’m flattered you remember my drink of choice, but something nonalcoholic for now, please. I need to keep my wits about me.

Tucker: I’ve made no secret of the fact that I want to make things right with ashley, show her I’m a changed man.

Victoria: With that entrance? Helicoptering in to a private family event?

Tucker: Well, I may have been overcompensating a bit.

Victoria: The next time you make a grand gesture like that, I recommend that you make sure the person that you’re trying to impress is actually there.

Tucker: That’s amazing advice. It’s no wonder you’re such a successful ceo.

Victoria: I have nothing more to say about you.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] I plead the fifth.

Victoria: What about the mystical experience? Did you glean any insight into yourself?

Tucker: You mean into my cold, black heart?

Victoria: You tell me.

Tucker: Well, a spiritual retreat’s really only as good as what you’re willing to put into it, and, back then, I wasn’t ready to do the work.

Victoria: Yes, but you love to keep people guessing, so I guess it wasn’t a total waste, was it?

Tucker: You know, you’re the perfect blend of your parents. You’ve got nikki’s deft way of handling people, and, of course, you’ve got victor’s business acumen.

Victoria: I’ll take that as a compliment.

Tucker: You should. It was meant as one. I think you like to keep people guessing, too.

Victoria: Do I?

Tucker: Mm-hmm. With all the recent acquisitions you’ve been making and the aggressive expansion of the company, that’s had to have kept people surprised, including some in your own company, I’m sure. I used to be like that.

Victoria: I wonder if that’s really changed.

Nikki: Tucker claims he’s in town for three reasons — devon, his grandson, and you, ashley.

Ashley: Right. Well, trust me, his agenda goes far beyond trying to get me back.

Phyllis: Oh, really? Is that a hunch or based on something specific?

Ashley: Well, I have the misfortune of knowing intimately exactly how tucker’s brain works, and he’s not interested in anybody beyond how he can use them to get what he wants.

Phyllis: Oh, a hunch. Got it.

Nikki: Okay, okay, enough.

Phyllis: [ Clears throat ] Have you given any thought to my plan? Getting closer to him?

Ashley: Well, yeah. You wanted me to spend more time with him, right? Uh-huh.

Phyllis: Right, right. I mean, would it kill you? You can get him to let his guard down.

Ashley: Yeah, I know. That’s why I accepted his dinner invitation, actually.

Phyllis: Good for you.

Nikki: So how did that go?

Ashley: It didn’T. He stood me up.

Phyllis: Oh, he played that game.

Ashley: It worked out for the best, though, because I was able to spend more time with jack, trying to get him to open up his eyes regarding diane.

Nikki: Did tucker ever explain himself to you?

Ashley: He did. Eventually, he showed up right when I was about to leave, and, apparently, he had some kind of an emergency with devon.

Phyllis: I believe that. I do. He’s obsessed with you. I mean, he wouldn’t blow you off on purpose.

Nikki: So how did you leave things with him?

Ashley: He still thinks he has a chance with me.

Nikki: Great. We’ve got him just where we want him. At humana we believe your healthcare should evolve with you and part of that evolution means choosing the right medicare plan for you. Mariah: Good news? Already?

Tessa: I think I need to sit down.

Sharon: Why don’t we all sit down? If you don’t mind me joining you.

Mariah: Yes, absolutely. Yes.

Tessa: In fact, we insist.

Mariah: Okay, christine, lay it on us.

Christine: Well, a pregnant woman has responded to your adoption profile and wants to know more about you as prospective parents.

Mariah: For real? This soon?

Tessa: I can’t believe it.

Sharon: What can you tell us about her?

Christine: Well, she’s young, so she’s not at a place in her life where she feels she can raise a child.

Sharon: Well, I know all about that.

Mariah: What does this woman want to know about tessa and me?

Christine: She wants to form a relationship with whoever winds up adopting her child, but she does have some requests when it comes to communication.

Tessa: I mean, whatever will make her feel comfortable, we will do it.

Mariah: This is insane.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ] I’m so happy that she picked us.

Mariah: Did she? Or…?

Christine: Yeah, I mean, i don’t know exactly where she is in her process. I just know that you’re up for consideration.

Mariah: Okay, okay. Stay calm. We got to stay calm. We can’t get ahead of ourselves, okay?

Tessa: No, I can’T. I am just too excited.

Christine: And you’re entitled.

Mariah: Christine, we owe you so much. I mean, the way that you’ve guided us through this process and helped us put ourselves out there. I know that we were just at the beginning of this journey, but we wouldn’t have even gotten this far if it weren’t for you.

Sharon: I’m really looking forward to reading your profile. It sounds really special.

Christine: Yeah, we wanted to focus on the future they would create for this child and the loving environment they’d provide. Also the incredibly supportive, extended family who will be part of this baby’s life.

Mariah: What do we do now?

[ Chuckles ]

Christine: Well, the next step is to exchange e-mails with the young woman. Her name is joss, by the way.

Tessa: Cool name.

Christine: Yeah, maybe you’ll have a phone call with her. I have gathered some information from her social worker, and, I mean, she’s really sincere about wanting to place this child with a family.

Sharon: Well, I always like to be the voice of caution, but this sounds like a really great step.

Mariah: [ Sighs ]

Nikki: Well, tucker knows he screwed up by letting you sit there. I mean, he’s the one who invited you, and he knew that you weren’t thrilled about going to see him anyway, so he’s just going to have to try harder to convince you that he’s sincere. And if there’s anything I know about men, they love the chase.

Phyllis: You have superior logic. I bow to you.

Nikki: As you should.

Phyllis: And then when you make him jump through hoops, you finally agree to spend some time with him. Go to dinner. Let him talk about how you had a great love, he’s a changed man. Blah, blah, blah. Then you reconnect.

Nikki: No, pretend to reconnect.

Ashley: It’s not going to be easy. I can barely stand to be in the same room with that man.

Nikki: Well, I understand, but given the stakes, eliminating diane from our lives, I’m sure you can find a way to hold your nose long enough to get that done.

Diane: Phyllis has made it her mission to keep me a pariah in this town. The woman is relentless. I mean, ever since I came back, she’s been trying to create suspicion about me, and it’s working. Because of her unfounded accusations, you’re distancing yourself from me, and that hurts, which is exactly what phyllis intended.

Jack: Don’t make this all about phyllis. The timing of tucker’s return, the unfortunate coincidence of this vintage bentley — they bring up a lot of questions, and neither of you have given reassuring answers.

Diane: What can I do to convince you that there is nothing to this?

Jack: I’m not sure you can. This has been eye-opening for me. I’ve been giving you the benefit of the doubt for a long time now, but if I’m honest with myself, I still have trouble trusting you, and I’m not sure that’s ever going to change.

If you have type 2 diabetes

or high blood pressure…

Noah: Ginger ale.

Audra: Perfect. Thanks.

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Audra: What are you thinking?

Noah: [ Sighs ] You know, audra, in the future, if you need to gather your thoughts… there’s a lot of other places in town you can go. Society. Top of the tower. ‘Cause you could say that you didn’t come here intending to stir up trouble, but with you, it’s kind of just part of the package.

Audra: How long are you going to hate me?

Noah: No, audra, I don’t hate you, okay? I can never hate you. It’s just… you bring chaos wherever you go. It’s just who you are.

Audra: You’re basically banning me from your club. Can you really not bear to be in the same room with me? I hoped we could get past how things ended, at least be civil.

Noah: Come on, don’t talk to me about being civil, not after what you pulled with allie.

Phyllis: Alright, well, that was a productive meeting.

Nikki: Yes. You and I will keep digging, and ashley will handle the tucker angle.

Phyllis: I’m glad we have a plan in action.

Talia: Hello, ladies.

Nikki: Oh, my goodness. What a nice surprise. I didn’t even know you were in town.

Talia: Came straight from the airport. I hope it’s okay that I just showed up. Your housekeeper let me in.

Nikki: Oh, of course. Your timing is perfect. I mean, we just had a meeting about our pet project.

Talia: Unveiling the truth about diane jenkins. That is my favorite subject these days, too.

Phyllis: Ours all the time. Listen, you just missed ashley abbott, the third member of our group. She has a plan in action, one, hopefully, that will get us some information about diane and what she was doing in L.A.

Talia: Well, I can’t wait to hear about it. And I may have some new tidbits, too.

Nikki: Oh, well, we appreciate any information you can share with us.

Phyllis: Oh, definitely. I mean, this is a gift for us. I mean, we realize that your main objective here is to write a book on diane.

Talia: That is the goal.

Nikki: Oh, I am so sorry. Please have a seat.

Talia: Oh, thank you.

Nikki: So, what’s new on your end?

Talia: Well, the original series of articles that I had planned that was so abruptly killed and no one from the magazine would tell me why — I finally pulled the truth out of my editor.

Phyllis: What happened?

Talia: Turns out, someone with a lot of money and clout put pressure on the owner of the magazine. She was warned to lay off diane, to not run any more articles.

Nikki: Are you thinking what I’m thinking?

Phyllis: Um, yes, I am.

Nikki: It is highly likely that this influential someone is tucker mccall.

Talia: The tucker mccall?

Phyllis: The one and only.

Talia: Wow. So he could be involved in diane’s story.

Nikki: Oh, mark my words. He is involved. It’s just a matter of finding out how and why.

Tucker: As I’m sure you’ve heard, I’m doing just the opposite of expanding my company.

Victoria: Oh, yes, you’re selling off divisions. You’re banking a heavy profit, saving up all that cash for a rainy day should something, I don’t know, something might come along that you might want to acquire.

Tucker: Mm, not me. I’m simplifying my life.

Victoria: Oh, I see.

Tucker: I understand that jill has stepped back from chancellor, and I really admire her for that, you know, ’cause she’s made her mark and achieved her ambitions, and she’s got nothing left to prove. So she’s enjoying her life away from the corporate battlefield. I often think about doing the same.

Victoria: Retirement? You?

Tucker: Well, semi-retirement. Maybe right here in good, old genoa city. I always did love this place.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] I’m sorry, but I find it a little farfetched that you’re going to just pack it all in and do what? You going to take up pickleball?

Tucker: Yeah, right? Someday you’ll understand. It kind of sneaks up on you.

Victoria: So what is your take on the chancellor-winter merger? Were you upset that your mother’s company joined forces with your son’s company? You weren’t even in the mix.

Tucker: Not at all. I couldn’t be more pleased for devon. How it all turned out. You don’t have to worry, victoria. I’m not stockpiling cash to make a run at newman. I don’t see you as an adversary.

Victoria: The thought never crossed my mind.

[ Sighs ]

Ashley: Victoria.

Victoria: Well, this has been a very interesting conversation, and I see that my food’s ready, so I’m going to go.

Tucker: I enjoyed our chat.

Victoria: Yes. Best of luck with your semi-retirement if you actually follow through with that.

Ashley: Bye.

Victoria: Bye.

Ashley: Semi-retirement. Really?

[School bells]

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Keep it quilted means

you keep it the best.

Sharon: Thank you for everything you’ve done for mariah and tessa.

Christine: It’s my pleasure.

Sharon: Brings back memories of hen you helped nick and me adopt cassie. You know, I’ll always be grateful to you for how hard you fought for us and how deeply invested you were in the outcome.

Christine: I remember when that judge announced his ruling, I broke down in tears. I was so happy for you guys and for cassie, knowing that she was with a family she loved and belonged with, who loved her.

Sharon: Now you’re helping my daughter and her wife realize their dreams of adopting a child.

Christine: Yeah, best part of my job.

Sharon: What do you think of their chances?

Christine: Well, it’s hard to say, but I do know this young woman has looked at a lot of profiles. But she reached out to mariah and tessa, I believe, because of their solid relationship, their successful careers, a great deal of family support. That all works in their favor.

Mariah: We looked over the information on the birth mother,

Christine: And?

Tessa: We would love to connect with her in any way that she feels comfortable.

Christine: I’ll make it happen.

Mariah: [ Sighs ]

Tucker: So, why do you find the notion of me wanting to work less and enjoy life more so surprising?

Ashley: Oh, because I know how driven you are, tucker. I can’t really picture you, you know, taking it easy and settling into some kind of predictable routine.

Tucker: What do you imagine when you do picture me?

[ Both chuckle ]

Ashley: I know how obsessed you are with living life on the edge and pushing your boundaries and facing new challenges, you know?

Tucker: The only challenge I’m currently focused on is proving to you that —

Ashley: How much you’ve changed. Yes, I know. If only saying it over and over and over again made it true.

Tucker: Actually, “challenge” is the wrong word. I think “opportunity” is better. It’S… it’s a chance to take what you and I have learned about love and life and finally get it right ’cause we had such a beautiful connection and can again.

Ashley: You couldn’t even be on time for dinner.

Tucker: Touché.

[ Clears throat ] Well, how about we — how about we do it over right here, right now?

Ashley: You would actually stuff down two lunches for me?

Tucker: Baby, I would actually stuff down…

Ashley: [ Chuckles ]

Tucker: …An ocean liner…

Ashley: Oh, wow.

Tucker: …If it meant that I could charm you into giving me another chance.

Ashley: Mm. I hate for you to think that your charm is actually working on me. However, I’m hungry, and I need to eat, so I don’t mind doing it the same time and place that you are here, so just remember one thing. This is not going any further, okay?

Tucker: Absolutely. I’ll be sure to moderate my expectation.

Ashley: Okay.

Tucker: [ Clears throat ] I’m stuffed — or, starving.

Ashley: Hm.

Diane: I don’t know what to say. This is beyond disappointing. Jack, I thought he’d made such progress. How could it be undone so easily? Phyllis shares some convoluted suspicion with you about tucker and me, and you just buy it without hesitation?

Jack: I didn’t say that.

Diane: No, but that’s what’s happening. She poured poison into your ear, and now you’re doubting my honesty all over again.

Jack: I will admit that it brought misgivings I thought I had buried back to the surface. Maybe I never got past them. Maybe I just held them in check for kyle’s sake or harrison’s, hoping that time would prove them wrong. My instincts tell me that they’re not. I have to get back to work.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I was taking my antidepressant daily,

Diane: Don’t even start.

Phyllis: Oh, I don’t have to. I don’t want to. I like our truce. Like it. I know you would self-sabotage. It was only a matter of time. Hey, it seems like jack has lost all faith in you. He’s probably waiting for another secret to come out. And, let’s be honest, we all know there is another secret. I know it. Jack knows it. Ashley knows it. Nikki and talia morgan. She knows it. Oh, she’s back in town. She’s doing some research on you. Oh, my gosh. You should’ve seen her face when she found out that tucker mccall was involved with you. A man of his stature — she was so excited. And you know those investigative people, they dig and dig and dig until they find what they want.

[ Sighs ] And once everything comes out, diane, the people you love the most, kyle and jack, they’ll finally know what your secret is.

Talia: So, I am enthralled by the possible connection between tucker and diane in L.A., And I love that it all turns on a vintage bentley, which then tucker tried to give away the same make and model as a gift to the young couple as they were renewing their vows?

Nikki: Yeah, tucker and diane also had a romance back in the day here in town.

Talia: A romance? Really?

Nikki: Mm-hmm. Diane is fascinating in a train wreck sort of a way, but adding a world-famous billionaire to the mix, that could push your book over to another level.

Talia: You are right about that.

Nikki: Now that they’re both back here in town, I am convinced that they have some kind of a plan, and that can’t be good.

Talia: Well, what we need now is some hard evidence, and you say ashley is working on getting that?

Nikki: Yeah. Well, I’m not going to sit back and wait for her to be successful. I have an idea of another way to get at the truth. Are you game?

Talia: Absolutely.

Tucker: You know what i remember most fondly about our time together? Just how simpatico we were. It was just effortless, you know? That’s ’cause we connected on such a deep level, and I just don’t think those kind of connections ever go away.

Ashley: Did you get that off a greeting card?

Tucker: No, I just read it in the bathroom stall.

Ashley: [ Laughs ]

Tucker: I was actually thinking about our trip to japan and the first time that we —

Ashley: Had sex?

Tucker: [ Laughs ] Well, I was going to say first time we truly connected, you know…

Ashley: Oh.

Tucker: …Opened up to each other, which was not exactly my comfort zone, as you know, so it was a big deal to me. Yes, having sex was memorable.

Ashley: I didn’t say it was memorable, actually.

Tucker: Still calling them like you see them, eh?

Ashley: I guess I am, yeah.

Tucker: Mm. We were such a good team, weren’t we? I mean, I loved supporting you, and I… I took so much pride in watching you thrive.

Ashley: Oh, wait, so everything I am, I owe to you? I don’t think so, tucker.

Tucker: No, you got it backwards. Everything I am, I owe to you. When they wanted to take me off life support, you were not about to let that happen. You fight like hell for me to have every chance I could have to recover. So it’s because of you I’m alive. I mean, my grandson — our grandson, which I’m so looking forward to.

Ashley: Such a cutie. Dominic is amazing.

Tucker: Like his grandmother.

Audra: What I pulled with allie? What are you referring to?

Noah: Ah, don’t give me that. He tried to make her feel insecure about me, about our relationship. I don’t appreciate that. I’m not going to do this with you again. I’m not going to play this stupid game.

Audra: Did it ever occur to you that I missed you? That I hate what we lost? Because I do. Look, and I have to believe that you missed me, too.

Noah: God, you’re really just a piece of work. What is this, huh? What is this? You come in here saying all this crap. Why? What, you still need my attention, my validation? What do you want from me, audra? I told you I’m not doing this anymore, okay? I’m done.

Audra: I was just being honest. I just wanted to —

Noah: Get a reaction out of me. And I gave you one. That pisses me off even more.

Audra: Why can’t you see that we have unresolved feelings to deal with? Would it really make you this crazy to see me if there wasn’t something still there? Alice loves the scent of gain so much,

Mariah: Who had the lavender lemon?

Christine: Oh, that’s me. Thank you.

Mariah: There you go.

Tessa: Your cinnamon decaf.

Sharon: Thank you.

Mariah: So, when do you think we’ll hear from joss?

Christine: I don’t know. I e-mailed her your contact information, so the ball’s in her court.

Tessa: I really hope it will be soon.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: Well, this is really big stuff, tessa. She might need some time.

Mariah: Look, whether it’s today, tomorrow, or the tuesday after next, I just — I am so ready to start a family with you.

Allie: Audra, hello. I didn’t expect to see you here. Hi. I had a break and wanted to talk about our plans.

Noah: Your timing’s perfect.

Audra: Thanks for that suggestion you made about going to society. Allie.

Allie: See ya. Hopefully not anytime soon.

Tucker: You know what I’d like to do with little dominic? Take him to a park with you. Watch him play, and —

[ Clears throat ] And just spend some time with him together, take turns spoiling him rotten.

Ashley: Yeah, not a chance.

Tucker: Excuse me?

Ashley: You got your shot. You got your do-over. Don’t push it.

Tucker: Ashley, have I done something to offend you in some way?

Ashley: I heard you out. And just for the record, it’s going to take a lot more than that for me to be convinced that you’ve changed in any kind of meaningful way. Thanks for lunch.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Tucker: Mccall.

Nikki: I hope this isn’t a bad time.

Tucker: Oh, no, I just finished lunch.

Nikki: Are you free to stop by the ranch? There’s something I’d like to talk to you about in person.

Tucker: How could I refuse you, nikki?

Nikki: Excellent. See you shortly.

Diane: Unlike you, I am not looking for trouble, and I’m certainly not trying to create it.

Phyllis: Mm. Well, even if that were true, and we both know it isn’t, god, diane, you’ve wreaked so much havoc. You can’t live out the rest of your days in peace. You’ve betrayed so many people. You’ve lied. I mean, you certainly can’t live here. You never had a chance with jack. All you’re going to get from him is strained acceptance, and that’s it.

Diane: [ Breathes deeply ]

[ Voice breaking ] You’re right. There’s, um… there’s something I haven’t told you. Something about my time in los angeles, something that I’m ashamed to admit.

[ Sighs ]

Transcript provided by Suzanne

Adam: Hey, bud. I’m so sorry. I got caught up at work, and I lost track of time. How you doing?

Connor: I’m fine. Sally’s been here.

Adam: Thank you for, um, texting me. I appreciate it. I’ve, uh, got it from here.

Sally: Okay.

Adam: So, what have you been doing? You working on some homework?

Connor: No. I forgot my backpack in mom’s car.

Adam: Oh. Well, we can get that later.

Sally: I guess I should get going, but thank you for keeping me company, connor. I enjoyed hanging out with you.

Connor: Me too.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Adam: What are you drinking?

Connor: Hot chocolate.

Adam: Ah.

Billy: I am still in shock about nate they did. I can only imagine how you feel.

Lily: Yeah. I feel confused, you know? Betrayed. I think it’s gonna take me a while to wrap my head around the fact that my own cousin was willing to hand over our family business to another ceo.

Billy: You know, I would expect something like this from adam, but not a decent guy like nate.

Lily: Yeah. I wonder if I even really know him, which is crazy. I mean, we — we grew up together.

Billy: Lily, don’t second-guess yourself about this, okay? I mean, I’m not gonna try and understand what he was thinking throughout this whole process, but if this is truly between him and devon, it’s got nothing to do with you.

Lily: You know, what hurts the most is that [Scoffs] I really believed that our family wasn’t like the newmans. You know? Or the abbotts. I mean, no offense.

Billy: None taken.

Lily: [ Sighs ] But I guess we’re no better than anyone else, you know? Or maybe chancellor-winters just changed us for the worse.

Billy: I am so sorry. I really wish that I could solve all your problems for you. Of course, there is one thing i can do. I could stick around until the ipo goes through, if we still decide to go through with that.

Lily: No, no, no, no, no. It’s up in the air. Devon’s opposed to it. I don’t know how jill feels about it.

Billy: Well, I am worried about the public perception once everyone finds out that nate’s been fired and if I’m walking away. And I want to be here to support you.

Lily: Thank you. I appreciate that. But I will figure it out.

Billy: Of course you will. You always do. But it wouldn’t be just for you. I mean, it would be me supporting my mother, as well. She co-owns this company, and it’s in flux. So maybe it is best if I stick around, at least till everything sorts itself out.

Nate: All I wanted when i joined chancellor-winters was a chance to be an active contributor, with ideas that could be implemented, and given a chance to become a success. But you were never going to allow that. So there was only one way for me to prove myself and really have a hand in things. When the opportunity arose, I grabbed it.

Devon: Nate, you grabbed an opportunity to stab the people in the back that gave you the space to even dream on that level.

Nate: That’s because i realized there was no actual opportunities for me at chancellor-winters. And why is that? You don’t know how to manage people.

Devon: Well, that’s the thing about opinions — because i never had an issue with managing anybody before you. And my track record speaks for itself. I’ve actually achieved a lot of the success you say you want, and the difference is I’ve actually done it.

Nate: You know, I’d like to talk to some of your employees, see how they feel about your management style, because, if you ask me, I’d say you don’t know how to delegate. You refuse to trust anyone’s business sense unless it’s your own. And in your mind, no answer is right unless it’s coming from you.

Devon: I swear, I feel like you’re messing with me at this point — ’cause I know you’re not dumb. I know you understand how hierarchy works. A boss can take input from the people that work for them, they can listen to their ideas, but at the end of the day, they make the final decision and everybody has to be okay with it. And if they’re not, they can leave, like you did.

Nate: Hmm. Your ego is shining through and through.

Devon: How’s my ego shining? What happened to the nate that came begging for his job back, saying that he understood his role in the company and he knew what he did wrong and yadda, yadda, yadda. Where’s that guy at? Oh, I know what happened to him. He never existed in the first place because the only reason you came back was to get information so you can screw over your family.

Nate: This was always about business. It was never personal.

Devon: How do you figure it’s not personal, nate? How do you figure? Lily and don’t trust you anymore. So, that’s your family. Elena’s been staying in a hotel. I heard from memorial that she took time off to leave town. So, there’s your girl. That’s your family and your girl. It doesn’t get much more personal than that.

Nate: How would you know elena left town? What, are you victor newman now, hmm, hiring private investigators to stalk people? Now that I think about it, that sounds about right because you crave nothing more than control. Does amanda know you’re stalking your ex? Because I’m sure she wouldn’t like that.

Devon: Do you hear how you sound right now?

Nate: That’s not an answer.

Devon: It doesn’t deserve an answer. It’s as ridiculous as you are. You’re clearly mad at the world, nate, and it’s affecting every part of your life. You’ve alienated your family, you’re on the verge of losing your girlfriend, and it’s all because of decisions that you chose to make all by yourself, on your own. And yet you have the nerve to stand here in front of me and talk like you’re a victim.

[ Door closes ]

Sally: Hey.

Nick: Hey.

Sally: I was just going over the contracts for the licensing deal.

Nick: Cool. I’m not here to check up on you, just so you know.

Sally: I know. I didn’t think you were.

Nate: Unless there’s something I need to know about the contracts.

Sally: There’s not.

Nick: Alright. See ya.

Sally: Oh, wait. Actually, um, there is something, but it’s not about the deal. It’s about your daughter. Summer came by to see me earlier.

Nick: Yeah. I, uh — I saw her at society. She’s had a busy day.

Sally: I’m guessing we had similar conversations?

Nick: Probably.

Sally: According to her, you deserve better than me.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I’m sorry about that.

Sally: It’s understandable. And actually kind of sweet the way she’s so protective of you.

Nick: Eh, that’s not cool. She crossed the line.

Sally: Okay. But there was definitely part of me that was tempted to let her have it. But I took the high road, and I told her that we were just… friends.

Nick: Yup. That’s what I told her, too.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Lily: Look, I understand and I respect your reasons for wanting to stay on, but you have been wanting to leave chancellor-winters for a while, and I don’t want to hold you back from what’s coming next for you.

Billy: You’re not. But I am a little bit worried about the optics, what people are gonna think if I walk away in the middle of all this.

Lily: Look, it’s fine. We don’t have to make a formal announcement about it, you know? You can just step away and — and move on, you know? And in that way, there’s no public concern of the stability of the company.

Billy: I just hate the thought of leaving you to deal with this on your own.

Lily: Billy, this is what i want, okay? And I want this for you. You deserve to find your path the way that I found mine. Besides, you’re still coming home to me, right? You’re not leaving me.

Billy: No, I’m not, and coming home to you will be the best part of my day every day.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] At some point, though, we will have to let jill know that you’re stepping away eventually.

Billy: Yeah, I know. But it’s best not to do that today. I think we need to focus on putting this nate-fueled ipo fire out. I e-mailed my mom and told her what happened. I have a feeling she’s not gonna take the news very well.

Adam: I, uh, overheard you and sally talking when I came in, connor. Can I ask you why you told mom you saw me inside? I know she wouldn’t want you to be here alone if she knew nobody was waiting for you.

Connor: It wasn’t a big deal. I’m old enough to wait alone.

Adam: Yeah, I know you’re not a little kid anymore. But you know mom, too. She wouldn’t want you to be here by yourself, not because she doesn’t think you can handle it, but because moms are super protective like that. We just want to make sure that you’re safe. Both your mom and I — we love you more than anything in this world.

Connor: You’re wrong.

Adam: What do you mean?

Connor: Mom doesn’t love me as much as she used to. If she did, she wouldn’t be acting the way she is. I brought in ensure max protein

Adam: Why would you think mom loves you any less? How is she acting?

Connor: She always seems sad now. Or she’s trying to prove she’s not sad.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Hey, it has nothing to do with you.

Connor: It feels like it does. She feels far away. Why is it so hard for her to just love me?

Adam: Listen. I-I promise you that you are mom’s heart and soul. She’s just going through a rough time right now. And I know it can be hard to be on the other side of that. And I am so sorry that you are feeling what you’re feeling.

Connor: I don’t know how to make it better.

Adam: It’s not your job to do that.

Connor: This has to do with johnny, right? She’s been like this since she told him he’s my brother.

If she misses him so much, she never should have given him up in the first place.

Sally: One thing you should know — I saw adam, too, and he looked like he had had a long night with a bottle or two of champagne.

Nick: Yeah. I saw him on the rooftop this morning.

Sally: You went looking for him?

Nick: Yeah. I wasn’t looking for trouble. I just wanted to talk to him.

Sally: How did that go?

Nick: He was, uh, pissed off and hungover. But beneath the anger and all the drinking, obviously he’s in a lot of pain. He, uh, brought up the two of us spending time together. It’s taken a toll on him.

Sally: Yeah, I got that sense, too. I’m sorry about that, but it doesn’t change anything.

Nick: It’s clearly taking a toll on you, as well.

Nate: This isn’t about elena or me. This is about you and the way you need to keep everyone under your thumb.

Devon: Hmm.

Nate: The second you lose a little control, you get all anxious and aggressive. You think you have the right to drastically change everyone else’s life, but nobody could ever have a say in yours.

Devon: And who’s everyone, nate? ‘Cause the only person whose life I tried to change for the better was yours by bringing you into chancellor-winters.

Nate: After you took away my old life.

Devon: Okay.

Nate: Mm.

Devon: So we’re back to this?

Nate: Yeah.

Devon: You haven’t forgiven me for your hand.

Nate: That’s right. I probably never will forgive you for what happened to my hand. You can’t understand that because it didn’t happen to you.

Devon: Well, hey, you know what did happen to me? You had sex with my girlfriend.

Nate: And in return, you took away my career, my purpose, my passion, and my drive. You dragged me to a place of uncertainty and depression. Yet and still, I wanted to forgive you. I tried so hard to let go of all that pain and anger. And — and for a while, i thought it was working. I was with the woman I love.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: And you built a life with amanda. I figured holding on to all that resentment wasn’t serving anyone.

Devon: Yeah, but you clearly didn’T. You just let it grow.

Nate: No. No. Actually, it came back because of you. Being offered a place at chancellor-winters reinvigorated my hope and solidified my resolve to finally forgive and move on. I wanted to give that coo job everything I had. I wanted to put all my lost passion into something new and exciting. But what did you do? Stopped me at every turn. Wouldn’t allow me to do my job. This isn’t just about me. There’s something deep going on inside you, maybe something you won’t let yourself admit or — or haven’t realized.

Devon: [ Scoffs ]

Billy: I am not looking forward to this.

Lily: No, it is not gonna be pleasant, but we’ll get through it.

Billy: Yes, we will.

Lily: Hi, jill.

Billy: Hey, mom.

Jill: Don’t you “hi, mom” me, billy. I am not in the mood for polite conversation. I want to know how in the hell you let this thing happen with nate right under your noses.

Lily: It was a very unfortunate turn of events and something I would have never suspected from nate.

Jill: You didn’t know how sneaky and conniving your cousin was?

Billy: Okay, that is below the belt.

Jill: You know, when I agreed to your idea of merging chancellor and hamilton-winters to create a family company, i never dreamed that your family would be the downfall of your legacy, lily.

Lily: Nate will not lead to my downfall or the company’S.

Jill: Oh, I hope you’re right. You know, your determination was part of the reason why I put you in charge. I have to admit that I’m kicking myself, too. I think I have pretty good instincts with people. But I never saw nate as a threat. Although I have an excuse. I did not work with the man in the office day in and day out. You two did. So, again, I will ask you. How in the hell did you let this happen? Vicks vapostick.

Billy: I can assure you that lily is not sleeping on the job in any way, shape, or form, if that’s what you’re implying. Yes, there has been some tension between devon and nate, but lily has done everything she can to keep the peace, both balancing this company and her family.

Jill: Well, whatever approach she’s been taking obviously hasn’t been working, has it?

Billy: Well, it’s like you said — you haven’t been around to witness any of it, right? So you’re gonna to trust our account of things.

Lily: Billy, I appreciate you coming to my defense, but I am the ceo of chancellor-winters, and there are no excuses.

Adam: Giving up johnny — it was — it was a hard decision for your mother to make. It was all about trying to do what’s best for him. And your mother — she wasn’t in a place where she could give him the kind of life that she wanted. So she stepped back and she let aunt victoria be the mother that johnny needed.

Connor: It doesn’t make sense. Either you love someone enough to take care of them or you don’T.

Adam: It’s just… it’s not always that simple, connor.

Connor: Why didn’t she just give me to aunt victoria, too?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Y-your mother, she worked really hard to provide for you in the right way. And unfortunately, she was not in the position to do that for johnny when he was born. And not to mention, I would never allow you to be raised by somebody else if I was in a position to take care of you.

Connor: So, it was because of you.

Adam: No. No. We both wanted to raise you. We were overjoyed when you came into our lives, connor, okay? I know this news is a big shock. There’s a lot of changing in the family history that’s hard to get your head around. I mean, I had the same kind of thing happen when I found out your grandpa was my father. So I know how jarring it can be. But the one thing that will never change is how much your mom and I love you, okay? I’m your father, and I’m always gonna be here for you. You can talk to me as often as you want, anytime. Okay? If there’s one thing that I’ve learned, it’s secrets can cause harm to people. And that’s why your mother decided to tell you and johnny — because she did not want this secret to harm you down the road. You understand?

Connor: Okay.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Maybe you’re right that this is taking a toll on me. But on top of adam’s latest stunt, in the aftermath, I ran into connor at the coffeehouse.

Nick: You mean connor and adam.

Sally: No. Connor was by himself. Chelsea and adam had a misunderstanding, sort of. So I just kept connor company until adam showed up.

Nick: There’s a lot going on with the family right now. It’s probably hard for him to process it all.

Sally: Yeah, but adam being late definitely didn’t help. Connor deserves two loving, stable parents, and I can’t help but feel partially responsible if adam is falling short in some way.

Nick: You know, I love my nephew. He is a great kid, and I’m sorry he’s going through that. But, sally, you are not responsible for adam’s behavior, alright? Whether he’s a good dad or not is completely up to him.

Sally: But he doesn’t live in a vacuum. On some level, I do feel like i am partially to blame, and i know that connor thinks so, too.

Nick: Why would you say that?

Sally: Because he told me.

Devon: I’ll tell you what I’m not gonna do, and that’s stand here and let you make this about me — ’cause from day one, you have never been able to admit the fact or accept the fact that you’re a novice at chancellor-winters and you don’t have any experience.

Nate: Don’t act like I was a nepotism hire, not when I had other executive job offers.

Devon: From who? Don’t walk away from me. Who? Who are you talking about? Ashland locke? You think the guy that was using you to help scam people into believing he had cancer was excited about hiring you because of, what, your impressive résumé?

Nate: Wow. You want to take the gloves off? Let’s take the gloves off.

Devon: Sure.

Nate: Would you even be ceo if you hadn’t inherited a billion dollars to launch a company? Talk about starting on the mountaintop.

Devon: And do you know how many companies I worked for before I got that inheritance? I didn’t think you did. I had a track record back then. You don’t have one now. And you know something? That’s on me for handing you a coo job with that being the case. That’s my one mistake.

Nate: Your one mistake? Sure. Keep telling yourself that.

Devon: You know what? You’re right. Two mistakes. My second one was assuming that you were gonna approach a high-level job like this with some humility and maybe some intelligence even.

Nate: What did you want me to do? Call you sir, huh?

Devon: Come on.

Nate: Bow down to you like you were royalty?

Devon: Nate —

Nate: Would that have shown appropriate deference?

Devon: Don’t be dumb, man. Don’t be dumb. You know damn well the only thing I ever wanted from you was to respect my final word. And you couldn’t do that. You were too arrogant to see you weren’t qualified or to realize that when you make a big career change — I don’t know — maybe you got to take a step back for a second and learn the ropes. Wait for your time.

Nate: The time was never gonna come.

Devon: You made sure of that, didn’t you? You thought you knew what was best and you were the only person to lead the company in the right direction. So, what did you do? You set out to essentially destroy the family legacy that we’ve been building to leave behind. That’s what you did. And honestly, I don’t know how you brought yourself to do it. And you know what hurts more than anything, nate? This company is what I built with neil, okay? It’s what he and I shared together before he left this planet. And you want to talk about what I took from you? That’s what you tried to take from me. Did you know if you turn to cold with tide and I’m going to tell you about exciting medicare advantage plans that can provide broad coverage and still may save you money on monthly premiums and prescription drugs. Are you feeling sluggish or weighed down?

“The young and the restless”

will continue. Louisiana families are really getting good

Nate: None of this would have gone so far if you would have just been open to hearing my ideas, if you would have just loosened up your grip on the reins.

Devon: Nate, if I would have loosened up my grip on the reins, you would have run the business that neil and I built into the ground.

Nate: It’s not yours and neil’s business anymore. It’s yours and jill’S. And lily is jill’s ceo.

Devon: Oh, so you do understand hierarchy. I thought you might. And let me break this down for you so you understand it, okay? Half the company is called winters, as in neil winters. So a part of it is always gonna be his. And I had the privilege of learning from him firsthand. I got to see his example, and he set a standard of professionalism that you would never understand. And we had a partnership that someone like you can never even aspire to have.

Nate: Wow. So, is that what this is all about? That nobody can ever live up to neil? You can’t get past your partnership you had with your father.

Jill: Nate showed his hand when he got upset on the call with you. But we just assumed that it was a personal dispute between him and devon and that it wouldn’t bleed over into business.

Jill: Except it did.

Billy: Yeah, we know that now.

Lily: Yes, and he apologized, and we gave him another chance because his apology seemed sincere.

Jill: Because he’s family.

Lily: I guess so. And that’s my mistake, and i take full responsibility for it. But let me just say this. The ipo hasn’t happened, right? And nate has been fired. So the risk of him selling shares to whoever he was colluding with is done. They’ll no longer be able to have majority share of the company. So no permanent damage has been done…yet.

Sally: Connor brought up how much adam used to smile when we were together. And when I first showed up at crimson lights, he thought maybe I was there to pick him up, adam and I had reunited, and he was just hoping that it might get his dad smiling again.

Nick: Sorry. Uh, kids tend to make sense of things the only way they know how, and it’s not always accurate. You know, a lot’s happened since you and adam got together, and then you broke up. With the family and the business, it’s not necessarily about you.

Sally: Yeah, I’m — I’m sure you’re right. But I just have to assume that adam getting drunk last night was because I rejected him. But I just — I can’t — I just can’t ignore the impact that I’ve had on him and, as a result, connor.

Nick: Sally, I — I really think you’re taking this logic too far. Adam’s a grown man.

Sally: I’m aware. And I know that he’s not my responsibility. But I just really hate to watch him suffer, especially when my life and my career is going so well.

Connor: Mom is different now. She’d probably be happier if she had kept johnny.

Adam: Mnh, no, that is not true, connor.

Connor: It’s like I’m not enough anymore. If she can’t have johnny around, she doesn’t want anybody.

Adam: Connor, that is not true.

Chelsea: Hey, guys. I realized you were gonna need this, or else you can’t do your homework. Maybe that’s what you were hoping for, huh? Um…connor, why don’t you, uh, go pick out a pastry so I can talk to your dad for a minute?

Adam: It’s okay. How much did you overhear?

Chelsea: Uh, just that my son doesn’t think he’s good enough for me [Sighs] Which I will fix. I — I’m — I’m gonna fix that. I’m gonna make this right.

Adam: I don’t think that’s gonna be as easy as it sounds.

Chelsea: I know you’re furious and that you probably blame me.

Adam: Look, blame is not going to help anybody right now, but connor is upset. He’s trying to process things a kid his age doesn’t know how to make sense of. So I think we need to bring in a professional to help our family deal with this information about johnny.

Chelsea: I know what that person’s gonna say — that i messed everything up and it’s all my fault.

Adam: I don’t think that that is going to happen. A good therapist wouldn’t talk that way. But we need an outside opinion for connor.

Chelsea: Okay. You’re right.

Adam: Mm-hmm.

Chelsea: You’re right. I just — I feel ashamed. I had the best of intentions, and I failed miserably.

Adam: No, this isn’t about failure. In fact, finding a way to move on from this is the opposite of that.

Chelsea: Well, I’ll do whatever I have to do for connor’s sake. But in the meantime, I was hoping you could help me with something.

Jill: I appreciate your focus and your willingness to take responsibility for what happened and your problem-solving attitude that you’re adopting.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Billy: It’s victoria.

Lily: Do you have to leave?

Billy: [ Sighs ] We had plans to spend some time together with the kids at the park. I can tell her I’m busy if you think that’s the best thing to do.

Jill: Oh, no, no, no. We can handle it from here. You go hug my grandchildren for me.

Lily: Yeah. Go.

Billy: I’ll catch up with you as soon as I’m done, okay?

Jill: So, lily, you said there had been no damage yet, and that implies that there still could be some. What else are you concerned about?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Nick: It’s obvious, sally, you have some unresolved emotions that you need to work through.

Sally: I’m not gonna argue that point. I thought I was in a better place and that I was fully ready to move on from adam. Look, I love spending time with you, nick, but —

Nick: Hey. You don’t have to finish that. The last thing I ever wanted was to make things more difficult or complicated for you. Whatever is happening here with us, it needs to happen at a pace you’re completely comfortable with. If at all. I just don’t want to make anything harder for you or — or adam…or me. For what it’s worth, um, when i talked to adam this morning, it seems like he’s really heartbroken. I know his feelings for you are genuine. I also know he really, really regrets pushing the woman that he loves out of his life.

Adam: Whatever you need, I’m here. So, what can I do to help?

Chelsea: You can give me your support, not your judgment.

Adam: At what point in any of this have I judged you?

Chelsea: You don’t have to say it, adam. It’s written all over your face.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Chelsea, I really hope you can find a way to stop looking at me as the enemy. We’re on the same team.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Connor: Can you take me home now, dad? You said I could go riding later at the ranch.

Adam: Sure. Yeah. Let’s go.

Chelsea: Did you find anything you want to eat? I can get you something for the car ride home.

Connor: No, thank you.

Chelsea: Okay. Connor? I love you.

Connor: Love you. Suffering from sinus congestion, especially at night?

Connor: Are you saying you want to be family with johnny now, want to be his mother all of a sudden? Why? Did I do something wrong?

Chelsea: No. Connor, no. You are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I am so proud of you. I’m so proud to be your mom. None of that’s changed. I-I thought you’d see this as a good thing.

Connor: Are you serious right now? What’s good about it?

Chelsea: Well, it’s a way to get closer to johnny. You know, you can get to know him better as brothers.

Connor: I don’t get it. Why are you making it sound like this is about me? It’s about you.

Billy: Hey there. You’ve been on my mind. How you doing?

Chelsea: Um, I’m sick of feeling sorry for myself. I’ve decided I’m not gonna let a string of bad luck grind me into the ground anymore.

Billy: Well, that’s good. I’m glad to hear that. I hope you can stay strong.

Chelsea: I am. Thanks.

Billy: Listen, chels, um, I’m pulling for you. But right now, victoria and johnny and katie are on the way to the park, and, uh, it’s probably best that you’re not around.

Chelsea: Right. Right. Okay. Thanks for the heads-up.

Nick: I realize adam has lost a lot. Most of that’s his fault. But, sally, if you are conflicted, then I got to step away. It’s not doing anyone any good for me to be in the middle of this. I mean, even when we try to be levelheaded, like last night at the coffeehouse, it just gives away to…the attraction.

Sally: Yeah, I guess we’re better at managing business than our emotions.

Nick: Yeah. It’s clear we have chemistry. A lot of it.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: But that’s not enough.

Sally: Yeah. It doesn’t change the fact that I need to figure out what i want.

Lily: My other major concern is tucker. Devon and I have suspicions as to why he’s really back in genoa city. He says that it’s to reconnect with devon or meet dominic and maybe make amends with ashley, but we’re not really buying it.

Jill: Mm. Good call. There’s always something else brewing when it comes to that man.

Lily: Exactly. So, you know, even if he’s not the ceo that nate has been conspiring with, that means that there’s still someone else out there looking for another way in. So, there are sharks in the water. And whether that’s tucker alone, tucker with other people, or someone else entirely, I want to make sure that we’re not caught with our eyes closed again.

Jill: My priorities haven’t changed. You were correct when you said that with nate out, there is no one on the team who would sell their shares, giving an outsider a majority control. So I have every intention of moving forward with the ipo, and I certainly hope that you and devon are on board. And now that we know that there’s a business predator out there, we just have to figure out who that is.

Nate: Do you think that by allowing someone else in, letting them grow and shine, that you’re somehow betraying your father?

Devon: I think you’re looking for something that isn’t there. That’s what I think.

Nate: Maybe. But if it does ring true in any way, I can understand. I know how hard it is to let go.

Devon: Okay, we’re done, nate.

Nate: No, devon, hold on. Neil wouldn’t want you holding on to his ghost. He’d want you to move forward and allow yourself and the company to be the best version–

Devon: I don’t need to hear what you think my dad would want ’cause you don’t have any idea what he would want. You don’t know what mattered to him. You don’t know what was important to him. I do. And what he cared about more than anything in the world was his family, and that’s the thing that you betrayed. He would never forgive you if he were alive.
