Sally: Nick, please say something. I mean, I don’t — I don’t know what you would say after finding out that your brother could be the father of this baby. I really can’t imagine what you’re thinking.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I mean, what you said about adam…

Sally: Yeah?

Nick: I was just wondering who was gonna bring it up first.

Tucker: Hey, adam. Been a minute.

Adam: Yeah, it has. Been staying out of trouble.

Tucker: That’s good. There’s just too many choices here. I can’t — I can’t make a decision. It’s impossible.

Adam: Well, everything’s delicious here, so you really can’t go wrong.

Tucker: What brings you here? Brownies? Sharon?

Adam: [ Chuckles ] Coffee.

Tucker: Mm-hmm.

Adam: Contemplation.

Tucker: Ah, yes, yes, yes. Are you meeting somebody or…?

Adam: Just me tonight.

Tucker: Cool. Well, in that case, let me buy you that coffee…and a brownie.

Lily: Can I just go on record saying that any day that includes a casual conversation about a lawsuit is…

Jill: I don’t like it any more than you do.

Lily: Are you sure that holding on to devon’s half of the company is worth all of this trouble?

Jill: I thought we were on the same page, that if we let him buy it back, it will devalue our company.

Lily: No. I know. I know. I just — [ Sighs ] I just wish there were a better alternative.

Jill: So did I. Look, I appreciate how difficult this is for you, watching your brother be so egocentric, ’cause this whole thing has turned into the devon show. It’s about him, his father, his company, his feelings, versus all those legal documents he signed.

Lily: Well, look, I think it’s more complicated than that. I don’t know. There is a part of me that can understand why devon wants to pull out of this merger.

Jill: And is that the same part of you that can’t stand the thought of losing your father’s company?

Lily: Well, look, I mean, of course I want to maintain that connection to his legacy. But I think what hurts most is that I couldn’t keep my family together as part of that company. And on that front, I failed.

Daniel: Hey.

Devon: Hey, man. How you doing?

Daniel: Oh, where do I begin?

Devon: Yeah? You had a long day?

Daniel: You could say that.

Devon: Why don’t you take a load off?

Daniel: You know what? I don’t mind if I do.

Devon: Would you like to talk about it?

Daniel: Well, you know, for starters, my whole life has been revolving around this gaming platform. Outside of my kid, it’s been my sole purpose for being. Now everything just seems like it’s in limbo.

Devon: I take it lily filled you in on what’s going on at chancellor-winters?

Daniel: Yeah, I heard some things.

Devon: And, uh, you probably think that I’m responsible for your project being put on hold, right?

Daniel: As a matter of fact, I do. I’m still moving toward what’s next.

Tessa: Ooh.

Mariah: You know, I’m always telling people that you take me to the coolest places in the city.

Mariah: She’s gonna be the coolest girl in the whole world.

Tessa: I mean, with us as parents, she has no choice.

Mariah: [ Laughs ] I’m thinking one part dreamer, one part fighter, and any time she’s overwhelmed or can’t sleep, she’s gonna take a long walk outside and look at the stars. She’s gonna grow up with so much love.

Tessa: That’s the luckiest girl in the world. She’s gonna change our lives forever…for the better.

Jill: All I can tell you is that I know what it feels like to have regrets about professional decisions I’ve made. Back when I worked at jabot, when I was head of the men’s line, my complicated history with john and jack forced me to make certain business decisions that I wouldn’t have otherwise made. And they weren’t always for the best. But I learned to stand up again, dust myself off, and focus on the task at hand. And I think I have a lot to be proud of.

Jill: Well, I don’t know if i can be proud of my inability to get devon to stick around.

Jill: Don’t focus on that. Your drive and your determination are what is moving this company forward. And I have no doubt that you’re gonna lead us to even greater heights once we go public. This is an opportunity. It’s an opportunity for you to lead unencumbered again.

Jill: But we still have to look out for devon because he is furious and in protective mode.

Jill: Devon is the one who should be worried. This merger has been in place for months. He can’t just say, “I’ve changed my mind, game over.” That isn’t how it works. Our two companies are intertwined, both legally and functionally. Plus, we offered him a very lucrative buyout.

Lily: Yeah. And he refused.

Jill: He simply has no legal standing for what he’s asking. So, why the hell is he putting all of us through this when there’s only one way this will end?

Devon: Let me just say you’re not wrong ’cause I am probably the main reason that your project isn’t moving forward right now. But what’s happening is complicated, and there’s just a lot of moving parts and a lot of factors.

Daniel: Mm-hmm. Look, I understand that. I do. I mean, my professional future is hanging in the balance here.

Devon: Right.

Daniel: I need this.

Devon: No, I know you do, and I completely get where you’re coming from. And I don’t want to be the one to hold you back, either, ’cause I believe that, even if chancellor can’t make omega sphere happen, any company with half a brain will scoop up your project.

Daniel: But I came to chancellor because I wanted to work with the two of you.

Devon: Well, I mean, you can be honest with me about that.

Daniel: Meaning?

Devon: Meaning you only wanted to really develop the project with lily. Life cuisine is extra.

Tessa: Okay, let’s go through the list.

Mariah: What list?

Tessa: The baby list. I want to make sure we have everything.

Mariah: Oh. Uh, okay. Uh…crib.

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: Rocking chair. Car seat?

Tessa: Ready in the car and ready to be filled.

Mariah: Awesome. Uh, okay…bottles, bottle sanitizer, wipes, formula, diapers?

Tessa: Check, check, check.

Mariah: Okay.

Tessa: Sharon told me that no matter how many bibs and burp cloths we have, we will need more.

Mariah: Then let’s put it on the list.

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: Hey, I know I’ve been giving you hell about managing this list. It’s just you’re so good at it. You’re so dedicated and fastidious.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ]

Mariah: And now we don’t have to worry ’cause we have everything we need.

Tessa: [ Sighs ] We don’t have everything.

Mariah: We don’t?

Tessa: No. There is one very important thing that we have left undone and we need to take care of. And I really hope that we see eye to eye on this one.

Adam: Thank you. Ah, well, look at us. “Genoa city’s villains get their just dessert.”

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] Ba-dum-bum.

Adam: Right. Well, at least nobody can accuse us of drinking coffee alone.

Tucker: Mm. The peaceful man… the peaceful man is frequently alone, but never lonely.

Adam: You don’t say.

Tucker: Mm-hmm. I’ll bet you haven’t had a night of peace in ages.

Adam: You would not be wrong.

Tucker: If you seek enlightenment…

[ Clicks tongue ]

Adam: I’m supposed to confess my sins and get some kind of absolution?

Tucker: Well, may I offer my own truths.

Adam: Knock yourself out.

Tucker: Perhaps you and I are here in this moment of time together ’cause we’re so alike. I have been trying to evolve. I’ve been trying to become the man I’m supposed to be, that i should be. And yet I continue to misjudge situations and underestimate the people in my life. I’d always believed that being honest was gonna hinder my cause for some reason, so I employed subterfuge. And it has bitten me in the ass.

Adam: You know, when you came back to town, you said something about reuniting with devon and meeting dom, maybe starting something up with ashley again.

Tucker: Good memory.

Adam: Mm-hmm. And yet here you are, party of one. Ashley’s in paris. She left rather abruptly. Pretty big surprise to everybody at jabot.

Tucker: Yeah. Well, my feelings were sincere, but I was just [Chuckles] — I was an arrogant son of a bitch. I thought I knew more than everyone, more than the people i loved. And I lost big time.

Sally: You already knew that there was a chance that adam could be the father?

Nick: Yeah. I mean, it, uh — it occurred to me a while ago.

Sally: You didn’t say anything.

Nick: I didn’t want freak you out.

Sally: I’ve been freaked out since the beginning.

[ Both laugh ]

Nick: Yeah. Um… I just figured whenever you were ready, you would bring it up. You’re running this show, sally. I’m totally cool following your lead.

Sally: I’m really sorry i didn’t tell you sooner, just like I’m sorry I waited to tell you that I was pregnant. You’ve really been amazing. And I just — I — I realized tonight that I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror anymore until I was completely honest with you.

Nick: Yeah. I-I get it, you know? I, um… I did the math. You think there’s a chance adam has, too, and suspects something?

Sally: I don’t know.

Nick: I mean, I was right there when he asked you point blank what was wrong with you. He knows you haven’t been yourself lately.

Sally: Yeah, I, um… I don’t know. Things have been awkward for me around adam. I was hoping maybe he would think it was normal ’cause we’re exes and I’m seeing his brother. And — and no matter how well adam reads me, there’s no reason for him to jump to the baby conclusion.

Nick: Okay.

Sally: And just so you know, so there’s not any doubt, there was only that one time with adam in december. There’s been nothing since.

Nick: I believe you. Hey, what’s bothering you now?

Sally: It’s just that last time with adam… I knew it was never gonna work with him. Fate wouldn’t be that cruel, right? To make adam the father when it’s finally completely over?

Nick: I don’t know. Um, fate can sometimes have an interesting sense of humor. I’ve been down this road before. Boy, have I. It’s not easy for anyone.

Sally: So, what do we do?

Nick: Just strap on our seatbelts and see where this ride takes us.

Sally: You’re just leaving? Who says you have to spend more on skincare

Nick: I mean, I’m not leaving because I’m angry. I’m leaving ’cause I got to get home to christian and you need to get some rest.

Sally: Do you remember that thing that you told me that you used to do with christian before bedtime?

Nick: Spraying under his bed for monsters.

Sally: Yeah. Convince me that I’m just making all this stuff up in my head because I’m still worried that you’re angry.

Nick: I mean, for that, you’re gonna need, like, the first class super duper extra strength spray.

Sally: [ Laughs ]

Nick: I’m not mad at you or adam or the baby or the situation. Sally, this doesn’t change one thing for us or how I feel about you.

Sally: That’s very sweet of you.

Nick: Well, it’s the truth.

Sally: Yeah, but just because you say nothing’s gonna change doesn’t mean it won’T. And it’s nothing against you. It’s just life. You know, it’s messy and uncertain.

Nick: Are you serious? Messy and uncertain? It’s like my specialty. I’m solid. Just please don’t worry about it, alright? I just want you to focus on yourself and your baby. And you do that by getting rest.

Sally: This bed does look really inviting.

Nick: Well, then let’s get you in there.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: There you go. There we go. Get comfy.

Sally: [ Sighs ] I might actually be able to get some sleep tonight because, honestly, keeping that secret from you was destroying me.

Nick: Well, let that be a lesson. Always come clean.

Sally: Thank you.

Nick: You want me to leave you some of my monster spray? I have cases of it.

Sally: Yeah, can you leave some by the bedside?

Nick: I might do that. Better?

Sally: Much.

Mariah: We have discussed every baby issue from multiple angles. Why wouldn’t we agree?

Tessa: Because this is an important decision. And this baby doesn’t have the most crucial thing in the world.

Mariah: This baby is gonna have two loving parents and a whole messy bunch of family and friends. What more could she need?

Tessa: A name.

Mariah: Oh. That.

Tessa: Look, I know we put it off because we didn’t want to get our hopes up.

Mariah: Ugh. I know. It’s just naming her — that makes everything so very, very real. And it also makes all of the bad what-ifs real, too.

Tessa: No. No. We are not gonna give those oxygen because in just a few days we are gonna bring our baby girl into the world. And we can’t just bring her into the house and call her “baby.”

Mariah: Yeah, agreed. Okay, let’s get to work.

Daniel: Thank you.

Devon: That’s on me, by the way.

Daniel: Oh, no, no, no. Please. I couldn’T. I might be dead in the water over at chancellor, but, um, i can still afford to pay for my own drinks. But thank you.

Devon: You got it, man. And listen, the only thing i meant by saying that you only want to work with lily is just ’cause it’s — it’s natural. You gravitate towards people you know, and you and lily — you clearly have a lot of history, so it makes sense. That’s it. And I don’t see a reason why you and her can’t move forward with chancellor once the dust settles.

Daniel: Sure, but I mean, now there’s no guarantees, right?

Devon: Well, I mean, you’re only hearing lily’s side of things.

Daniel: [ Breathes deeply ] You know what? What I know is that lily is going through hell because of your decision to bust up this merger, and I’m not just talking about this because of what’s at stake for me. I mean, come on, man. I just can’t fathom, like, that you would want to hurt her this way.

Devon: I don’t want to hurt her this way. I’m not trying to hurt her, daniel. You don’t know the full story.

Daniel: You’re right. I do not know all the ins and outs, but what I do know — what I know is lily’s heart. And, man, it just doesn’t seem like you have a problem breaking it right now.

Lily: Look, playing devil’s advocate, maybe devon would have never agreed to this merger if he knew we were going public. Maybe he feels like he signed under false pretenses.

Jill: Well, then he’s woefully mistaken. There was no long-term plot to lure him in so we could steal hamilton-winters. The merger was your idea. The ipo was mine. Devon’s been around long enough to know that there is no static in the business world.

Lily: Yeah, that’s true, but —

Jill: An ipo is a logical and reasonable response, given our profits and our success. He just doesn’t like the plan. So he wants to take his ball and go home. Aw, sweetie, it’s so unfortunate that you got in the middle of this.

Lily: Well, I guess I should look at it like another day in the office.

Jill: No. I know how difficult this is for you, and I do appreciate your loyalty to your brother. Alright, so, if you feel that you need to recuse yourself from being involved in this lawsuit, I understand. And I am prepared to fight this alone.

Lily: No, look, I will do what it takes to protect the company. But I do have a request.

Jill: Well, then let’s hear it.

Lily: I don’t think that this lawsuit should stop us from doing business. And I really believe that we should move forward with daniel’s platform, omega sphere.

Jill: Okay. The video game.

Lily: Jill, it is so much more than that. I mean, this platform could make a name for us in the gaming industry.

Jill: You really believe in this.

Lily: Yes, of course I do. This is a groundbreaking platform, and I think it’s a great partnership for us. And I really hope that you will say yes…tonight. What about this guy?

Devon: I’m as hurt as lily is that things have gotten to this point, but she and I have very different views on how to run a business. And I’ve had reservations about going public for a long time now for good reasons. And she’s making the choice to ignore those reasons and side with jill, which is fine. She can do that. They can take chancellor public all they want. I just want to reclaim the company that I created with neil.

Daniel: But she’s your sister.

Devon: I know who she is. That’s not gonna change.

Daniel: You know, just because you guys had differences in the past and you were able to eventually forgive each other for them and get past it doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen that way again. You’re taking her for granted, man, and that is a sure-fire way to lose someone you love.

Devon: [ Sighs ]

Tucker: What’s going on with you?

Adam: Man, you are awfully set on having a heart-to-heart. It makes me wonder why.

Tucker: [ Sighs ] I’m not looking for a pal or anything. It seems like we’re cut from the same cloth, is all. And there’s something to be said for, uh — for unloading onto someone who is in no position to judge or who really doesn’t care. It’s liberating.

Adam: I lost someone that’s, uh, very special to me.

Tucker: Oh, I’m sorry.

Adam: Well, losing her was bad enough, but it’s to whom i lost her which is the salt, the lemon, and, um, the battery acid in the open wound.

Tucker: Oh. Was it a friend or foe?

Adam: It’s family.

Tucker: Ugh. Well, if you want my advice, um, try not to think in absolutes. You know, you can never step in the same river twice ’cause it’s ever-changing, just like we are. So, this woman you love, who you lost, is not the same woman she was yesterday, just like you’re not the same man. Hope springs eternal. You never know what’s gonna happen, right?

Sally: Now that we’ve discussed the possibility that adam could be the father, should I tell him? Or should I just keep this to myself for as long as humanly possible?

Nick: Um… it’s your call. You should do what you want.

Sally: But you think I should tell him, sooner rather than later.

Nick: I really do. It won’t be any fun in the moment, but look how much better you felt after you told me. And this isn’t about what adam does or doesn’t deserve. Sally, you deserve to have as few burdens as possible so you can focus on yourself and have the healthiest pregnancy that you can. And it doesn’t do you any good to keep any secrets. They always come to light.

Sally: Yeah, you’re right. Everything should be out in the open. I should…find out the truth.

Nick: What?

Sally: I will have a paternity test done and get the answers that we need. Your heart is the beat of life.

Mariah: Before we get started, I just wanted to say there’s no bad answers here, alright? No judgment, no outrage, no giggling. Just an honest conversation about baby names.

Tessa: Okay. I’m in.

Mariah: Okay. I will, uh, go first. Hyacinth.

Tessa: Oh. I’ll put it on the list. Okay, um… anoushka?

Mariah: [ Laughs ]

Tessa: [ Gasps ] No!

Mariah: I’m sorry.

Tessa: No! You said this was a safe space. No giggling!

Mariah: I’m so sorry. You’re right. You’re right. That was wrong. That was wrong.

Tessa: So wrong.

Tessa: Adele? Like you can think of something better.

Mariah: Better than “adele anoushka”? Yeah, you bet I can.

Tessa: Okay, fine. You do your thing. You name the baby.

Mariah: You know what? I will. So, it’s got to be something ageless…

Mariah: …And timeless. You know, it’s got to — it’s got to stand out, but not too far out.

Tessa: Okay. I mean, I’d like something that resonates, something that you hear and you don’t forget, you know, something one-of-a-kind.

Mariah: Just like our girl.

Mariah: [ Laughs ] So, tuesday’s a good brusher?

Tessa: Not one cavity.

Mariah: Oh, I like her already.

Tessa: Ah, I just can’t wait to see her sweet little face and her cute little fingernails.

Mariah: Can you imagine what it’s gonna be like to just — to be holding her in our arms, knowing that she’s ours?

Tessa: I hope she likes my music.

[ Both laugh ]

Mariah: She’s gonna love it. And she’s gonna love her name.

Tessa: Which is…?

Mariah: [ Inhales deeply ] To be determined.

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: You know, we need to get her home and see what she — what she feels like, who she is.

Tessa: You’re right. We should get a sense of her personality. You know, delphine could be late. I mean, what if “to be determined” likes to be late to the party?

Mariah: [ Laughs ] Well, then she’d be just like her mother.

Tessa: Oh, honey, don’t talk about yourself like that.

Mariah: Excuse me? You’re the late one. You used to at least try to be on time, but then when you realized that I would just wait for you, all bets were off.

Tessa: [ Laughs ] And now we’re waiting for our daughter. Oh, my gosh, I will just never get sick of saying that.

Mariah: “Our daughter.” Wow. It’s got to be the two best words that ever were.

Tessa: It’s normal to be terrified, right?

Mariah: It’s completely normal.

Tessa: [ Breathes deeply ]

Tucker: Well, mr. Newman, this has been a blast, but this is as much excitement as I can handle in one night.

Adam: [ Groans ] Yeah, I know what you mean. So let’s never do it again.

Tucker: It’s a date. Hey, nick! Isn’t it past your bedtime?

[ Laughter ]

Nick: That’s funny.

[ Hands clap ] I didn’t realize you two were friends.

Tucker: Oh, we’re not.

Adam: Oh, no, we just — it turns out we both like coffee.

Tucker: I know. What are the odds of that?

Adam: Yeah. This could be the beginning of a very interesting friendship.

Tucker: Anything can happen. And with that [Clicks tongue] Good night.

Adam: Hey, I’m actually, uh, glad I ran into you.

Nick: Why is that?

Adam: Uh, because I wanted to let you know that I told jack that victor and potentially kyle were trying to pull the rug out from under me at jabot. So, thank you for the heads-up. I know your motivation was self-serving, but your impulse was generous.

Nick: Well, I sure hope jack has your back.

Adam: We’ll find out soon enough, I suppose. Look, do you actually have a minute?

Nick: Depends. What do you want?

Adam: I figured since we’re in a “sort of getting along” phase, I could ask you a question.

Nick: Alright. Go for it.

Adam: What is going on with sally?

Daniel: Yes, it is easy to get distracted by emotions. And I know you’re gonna say that it’s only business, but don’t — don’t minimize who she is. Lily is brilliant. She’s incredibly loyal. She’s the kind of person that you want by your side, not across the courtroom.

Devon: Right.

Lily: Hi.

Devon: Hi.

Lily: Sorry. I was eavesdropping. Thank you, daniel, for your support, but devon is free to make up his own mind.

Devon: Well, I appreciate you saying that, but I just want to say that I agree with every single thing that you just said about her. And I mean that. You keep saying, lily, that this is all about keeping me on board and us working together as a family — right? — And carrying out this legacy.

Lily: Yes, that is true.

Devon: Okay. I had a thought then. Why don’t you come and join me at hamilton-winters and we can run our father’s company together, side by side? You say the most important thing is our relationship, which i agree with. So, why not say yes to that?

Lily: [ Scoffs ] I’m sorry. Is this like a loyalty test? I don’t — why do I have to give up chancellor-winters to make you feel better?

Devon: It’s not about making me feel better. It’s about doing what you claim you want to do so bad, which is work with me, right? No? I mean, your response — it just proves to me again that business is everything to you. So I don’t want to hear any more that this is just about family when we know where you stand. Sorry. This is the sound of better breathing.

Daniel: Wow, that was brutal.

Lily: All part of the job description.

Daniel: Mm. Rolling with the punches?

Lily: [ Chuckles ] I mean, what’s the alternative? Every time I try to make things better with devon, they get worse, so… but it’s fine. It’s fine. Everything’s fine.

Daniel: I hope that I didn’t overstep, telling devon how i felt about what he’s doing.

Lily: No. Look, I know that you meant well, but I don’t think that anyone can change his mind at this point.

Daniel: Well, I am truly sorry that you’re having to deal with all this.

Lily: Thank you. Anyway, I have some news for you.

Daniel: Okay. Lay it on me.

Lily: So, I spoke with jill about the future of omega sphere.

Daniel: And?

Lily: And… she said yes.

[ Laughs ] She wants to move forward.

Daniel: Are you serious?

Lily: Yes. Yes. I’m serious. Everything that you asked for. So, how soon can you have it ready to launch?

Daniel: [ Chuckles ] I-I… I don’t know what to say. Uh…

Lily: [ Laughs ]

Daniel: You did it. This is — it’s happening.

Lily: Yes. It’s happening.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ] Are you getting sleepy?

Mariah: No, not just yet. But I love that the sound of my voice can put the person that i love most in the world to sleep.

Tessa: That will come in very handy in the years to come.

Mariah: Oh, so, I’m on sleep duty?

Tessa: Oh, yeah, I mean, only until she’s in college.

Mariah: Well, then that means you’re the disciplinarian.

Tessa: [ Gasps ] Wait. No, no. That doesn’t work.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ] Well, if the sound of my voice sends her off to dreamland, i can’t also be the person that tells her to study or to do her chores, you know? She’ll be falling asleep as she’s trying to clean out the garage or learn the state capitals.

Tessa: But I don’t want to be the bad guy.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ] Never.

Tessa: We’ll do it together.

[ Breathes deeply ] We’re gonna be good moms. We’re not gonna be bad moms, okay? We’re gonna be cool and chill.

Mariah: Alright.

Tessa: She can talk to us about anything —

Nick: There’s nothing for you to worry about, adam. I heard what sally said to you before.

Adam: Yeah. She said she was having some problems starting her business. But it just felt like it was something more, maybe something she couldn’t say.

Nick: Maybe she’s just uncomfortable being around both of us at the same time. Look, sally’s tough, but can you imagine how hard that must be for her? And I don’t know when or if that’s gonna change.

Adam: Okay. That’s fair enough.

Nick: Night.

Billy: I’m not sure what makes this table the most romantic table. I mean, I’ve sat at every table here. There’s, I mean, nothing special about this table. I think she’s just trying to ingratiate herself, right? And she can expect a big tip from me for doing so.

Chelsea: Yeah, but that was weird, right?

Billy: What part of it?

Chelsea: Well, she totally misinterpreted why we’re here.

Billy: Yeah, she did.

Chelsea: Yeah. She — she thought we were on a date.

Billy: Yeah.

Chelsea: But we’re not on a — wait, do you think this is a date?

Nick: Hey, sally, it’s me. I got all your, uh — your healthy snacks. I got bananas and carrots and rice cakes, hummus. I even got caramel corn. I know it’s not healthy, but i brought it anyway. What happened?

Chelsea: And that’s certainly the case with me, you know, especially after everything I’ve been through the past few months.

Billy: That’d be a tricky first-date conversation.

Chelsea: Yeah.

Billy: Look, just to ease your mind — okay? — This is nothing more than two friends just checking in on each other, okay? We’ll enjoy some food. We’ll talk about whatever we want, nothing more. That is my promise to you.

Chelsea: I like the sound of that.

Billy: And just to drive the point home, at the end the night, we’ll split the check.

Chelsea: [ Laughs ] That’s fair.

Diane: Flowers, candles, champagne. And why are you wearing a tux?

Jack: Well, I got out of the shower and I went to the closet and I saw this hanging there. And I thought, “boy, I haven’t worn a tuxedo in a long time.” And I look good in a tuxedo.

Diane: Yes, you certainly do. But, jack, I was just here. How did you pull this together so quickly?

Jack: Oh, I had a little help.

Diane: Oh. Kyle and summer?

Jack: Actually, mrs. Martinez.

Diane: Ah. Ah. Well, I’ll be sure and thank her the next time I see her. You know, this is amazing, but I’m half-expecting the rest of the abbotts to come waltzing through at any minute, and i doubt they’ll be as smitten with your efforts as I am.

Jack: Kyle and summer have taken harrison to the movies. Allie is out with friends. Traci is on a plane on her way to new york to see her publisher. We are alone in this house. You can relax.

Diane: Well, that’s good to know. I know a lot of people are probably thinking the worst of this relationship. They might even think that I was pursuing you all along. But come on. Look at you.

[ Laughs ] Look what you did here tonight. How could I not be falling for you all over again?

Jack: How could you not?

Diane: Mm. [ Chuckles ]

Jack: To hell with the naysayers. To us.

Diane: To us.

[ Glasses clink ]

[ Chuckles ]

Nick: Come on. Talk to me.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Nick: Tell me what’s going on.

Sally: Can we just write it off as hormones? My mind, my body, they’re just — they’re just overwhelmed. And — I don’t know. Everything’s in full-on baby mode right now.

Nick: It seems like there’s more to it than that.

Sally: I don’t know. The whole blood pressure problem got me thinking about so many things that can go wrong bringing a child into this world. That’s not even taking into account when the child’s actually here and having to take care of it and having to raise it. I mean, this is just… this is just my first moment of true and genuine fear. And it definitely won’t be the last. I mean, the child’s not even gonna be here for months, and I’m already a mess? How the hell am I gonna be a mom? I used to pre-rinse dishes cause my old detergent

Victoria: Here you go.

Nate: [ Sniffs ] Wow. Whew. It smells so smooth, it probably drinks itself.

Victoria: 25-year-old single malt. I told you, it’s the good stuff.

Nate: Mmm.

Victoria: Mm-hmm.

Nate: Must be some box we’re stepping out of.

[ Both laugh ]

Victoria: I just thought that it would be nice to step away from the 9:00-to-5:00 corporate structure.

Nate: I thought you thrived in that environment.

Victoria: Well, normally i do, but I learned from my father that sometimes it’s good to mix things up, to escape, to brainstorm, to generate ideas, especially when you have your sights set on a target that might be just a little bit unorthodox.

Nate: You have to think like the target. That makes sense. Mmm. Another one of these, and i might generate all the ideas.

Victoria: Ah, see? I think it’s working.

Nate: Okay, so, what is our target?

Victoria: I want to scoop up omega sphere, and I want to take down mccall unlimited.

Nate: You want to go after tucker mccall? I’ll drink to that.

[ Glasses clink ]

Victoria: That’s right.

Nick: Look, this is completely normal, okay? You’re supposed to have fears about becoming a parent.

Sally: Yeah, but you’re not supposed to be overwhelmed by them.

Nate: Of course you are. Everybody goes through it.

Sally: Even you?

Nick: Yeah, even me. Seriously, I was worried sick with every kid. Now, it did get easier, but it’s still very scary.

Sally: But you’re a natural. I’ve seen you with your kids. You’ve got, like, a dozen world’s best dad mugs.

Nick: Well, if everybody says it, it must be true.

Sally: [ Laughs ]

Nick: Look, I got those mugs ironically. Before noah was born, I wasn’t ready for that. I was a mess, like you are, too, but you’re gonna get through it. I promise. You know, part of the problem is the buildup. Nine months seems like it’s forever. But trust me — it goes by so fast. And then the baby gets here, and everything changes.

Sally: Yeah, then it gets really scary.

Nick: No, no, no. That’s the crazy part. When your baby’s born and you see it and you get to hold it, it’s just — everything makes sense. Right now, everything is like the unknown for you, but I’m telling you, when they hand that baby to you, you can’t imagine loving something that much. The fear goes away, and everything becomes clear to you.

Sally: [ Sniffles ] So, that’s what it was like? It was like this magical transformation the second that noah was born?

Nick: I mean, of course there are some bumps and mistakes along the way. I got to be a dad. You know, my life went in a completely different direction. It was natural. It’s going to be that way for you, too.

Sally: Look, I can believe that you became this outstanding father that you were always meant to be fairly easily. It’s just different for me.

Nick: How so?

Sally: When you were growing up, you had a loving mother and father around. Even if they weren’t always together, you knew that they loved you, right?

Nick: Yeah, of course.

Sally: [ Inhales sharply ] I never had that. I — I learned that people let each other down very young.

[ Sniffles ] And as an adult, I’ve learned to deal with it, but as a child

[Voice breaking] It was devastating. The thought of doing that to my own kid, it just — it makes my chest tighten up so much that i can barely breathe.

[ Sighs, sniffles ]

Nick: [ Smooches ]

Sally: [ Gasps ]

Billy: Ooh [Clicks tongue] I think I’m gonna do the clams and the muscles.

Chelsea: Sounds delicious.

Billy: You know what? I’m definitely not. I’m definitely gonna do the crab enchiladas. I can’t say no to those.

Chelsea: [ Sighs heavily ]

Billy: What’s on your mind?

Chelsea: It’s nothing.

Billy: No, it’s — it’s something because you’ve been here a thousand times. You know everything that’s on that menu, and yet you’ve been staring at it for 10 minutes.

Chelsea: [ Whispering ] Our server.

Billy: [ Whispering ] What about her?

Chelsea: She thinks we’re on a date.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] I think she made an innocent mistake.

Chelsea: Yeah, but what if she knows who we are?

Billy: Yeah, maybe she does. I don’t — I don’t see the problem.

Chelsea: Well, she’s gonna say something to abby, like, “I saw your uncle billy with chelsea lawson on a date.” And then it creates a whole rigamarole, and then your family gets involved. I mean, is that what we want?

Billy: No, no, we definitely do not want my family asking any questions about what’s going on between us. Excuse me?

Chelsea: What are you doing?

Billy: Damage control.

Is everything okay?

Billy: Everything is fantastic. We are just about to order, but, um, something that’s a little bit more important for you to know — um, this is not a date.

Music (“I swear”) plays

Diane: How long have you been planning this?

Jack: Uh, I was gonna do something special on new year’s eve, but we kind of had other things to deal with.

Diane: Yes, I am glad that’s all behind us.

Jack: You know what? I’m glad I waited.

Diane: Why is that?

Jack: Because I’m even more enamored with you than I was just weeks ago.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: If you haven’t noticed, I’m kind of taken with you.

Diane: Mm. Likewise. And you don’t even need this tux to impress me, although I do appreciate the effort. You know, this is, uh — this is incredible. A year ago, I would have never imagined that this was happening. I didn’t even know if I could return to my old life here. But for the two of us to have found each other again, it takes my breath away. I mean, nobody could have predicted this.

Jack: There I have to disagree with you. As unexpected, as unpredictable as this moment was, I — I think it’s been in the cards for a long time.

Diane: What do you mean?

Jack: Finding you again may just be the fulfillment of a prophecy, all brought about by my mother.

Nate: I love it. This is bold. This is the kind of move devon would have quashed at chancellor-winters. Too risky.

Victoria: Well, I told you, we do things differently here.

Nate: Yes. I love it. Alright, look, let’s jump right in. First things first, we need to lure daniel and his project to newman media.

Victoria: That’s right. We need to give him something that chancellor-winters can’T. What is that?

Nate: The full power and magnitude of newman enterprises. We have deeper pockets.

Victoria: Yes. Well, the money angle is good, but it might take a little more to convince daniel.

Nate: Well, I can let daniel know that chancellor-winters will micromanage and second-guess him constantly.

Victoria: You’re right.

Nate: Mm-hmm.

Victoria: He’s an artist. He won’t have any control over his baby over there.

Nate: They will be breathing down his neck every step of the way.

Victoria: Why don’t we make that a part of the agreement? Give him autonomy. Put that in writing.

Nate: They’d never give it to him.

Victoria: We’re starting to look pretty good in comparison, don’t you think?

Nate: And I know how they typically structure their deals. We’ll just have to make sure we’re better at it.

Victoria: Wow. You really were wasted over there, weren’t you? They had no idea what they had at chancellor-winters.

Nate: And you haven’t heard about my secret weapon yet.

Nick: I want to help you. I’m just not sure how.

Sally: Well, you brought snacks. That’s pretty good.

Nick: Yeah.

Sally: Although I cannot believe you brought me caramel corn.

Nate: I can take that home with me.

Sally: Oh, don’t you dare. Look, I’m — I’m really sorry that I dumped all this on you.

Nick: That is not the way this works, sally. We’re in this together. You’re not dumping anything on me. You’re sharing, and I want you to continue to do that, alright?

Sally: It’s just hard for me to lean on anyone.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Nick: I know you don’t wanna look too far into the future, but all we have to do is get you through your next doctor’s appointment. Everything gets a lot less scary.

Sally: Maybe.

Nick: I’m here for all of it, from picking out furniture for the nursery to buying all the “I’m having a baby” books. I’m here, okay?

Sally: And snacks. Can you be in charge of snacks?

Nick: Well, obviously.

[ Both laugh ] I’m the king of snacks. You’re never gonna be hungry around me. Everything — I’m serious — from pregnancy to births to school to recitals, soccer, sleepovers. I’ll be right there with you. I promise.

Sally: That sounds amazing.

Nick: It will be.

Sally: You know, besides all of, like, the soccer and the santa claus and all the other kid stuff… where does that leave us? Where do we stand?

Nate: I don’t have an answer, uh, for you regarding that. I think it’s too soon for us to make a decision about our future. But as far as being a parent, I’m solid, okay? That I am certain of. Hey. What’s wrong?

Sally: [ Sniffles ]

Nick: What’s wrong? I thought I was doing a pretty decent job making you feel better. What’s bothering you now?

Chelsea: And why do you think that is?

Billy: I’m a lot.

Chelsea: You are a lot.

Billy: Yeah. [ Chuckles ] Yeah. See, but that’s why this could not be a date — because I would never actually admit that to someone that I was on a date with.

Chloe: That’s a very good point. Well, I wasn’t so concerned whether we thought it was a date. It was more, would your family think this is a date?

Billy: I think my family is a little, uh, busy right now. Apparently, jack and diane are back together.

Chelsea: Huh. Well, you don’t seem too troubled about that.

Billy: I believe in giving someone a second chance.

Chelsea: Sometimes a third chance.

Billy: Whatever it takes.

Chelsea: Well, I’m grateful for it.

Billy: I know what you’re thinking — dessert.

Chelsea: [ Gasps ] I was thinking about dessert. How did you know?

Billy: It’s a talent. I can usually tell when someone’s thinking dessert. I’m usually right. Who doesn’t love dessert?

Chelsea: Yeah. Thank you for this. Dinner with you is exactly what I needed.

Diane: Sorry I wasn’t here when your mother died. She was an amazing woman. But I still don’t see how dina predicted that you and I would reunite after years of everyone thinking I was dead.

Jack: My mother didn’t exactly predict it. Her jewelry did.

Diane: [ Laughs ] What in the world are you talking about? Wait a second. How much champagne have you had?

Jack: [ Laughs ] Hear me out.

Diane: Okay.

Jack: Years ago, when they first met, my father bought my mother an antique emerald necklace. It was beautiful, had lots of history, even had a name — the teardrop of love.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: I have pictures of dina upstairs, a very young dina wearing it proudly. Anyway, when they split up, my mother traveled all over the world, and in her travels, somehow that necklace got lost. So, just before she died, I was able to track it down.

Diane: Well, I’m — I’m sure she appreciated that.

Jack: Oh, boy, did she. It was quite a reunion. And when she died, each of us got a little piece of the necklace. My section…

Diane: Ah.

Jack: …Got me these cufflinks.

Diane: Nice. And that’s a lovely story, but i still don’t see how it predicted that we would get back together.

Jack: There was a legend attached to the necklace. It held that whoever wore the necklace, whoever was around the gem, found love.

Diane: I see.

Jack: Over time, I realized that if the legend is true, it might just be about family love. After diana died, I was closer to kyle and my sisters and billy and abby and the whole abbott family.

Diane: Hmm.

Sally: We were gonna take things slow. We made a point of that. And now the pregnancy and everything is just moving at warp speed, and, I mean, who knows where we’re going? Every decision I make from now on isn’t just for me. I have to get this right.

Nick: And we will. Honestly, I’m still not sure what we’re talking about. What do we have to get right?

Diane: Well, of course. Listen, that all sounds fun, but it’s just — it’s just fantasy. I don’t need gowns or galas. What I want is…

[Voice breaking] Christmas, uh, christmas with the whole family. I want to — I want to celebrate the holidays with people that matter to me. I want… gosh, I want big family dinners where everybody sits around and shares their day and — and those traditional abbott breakfasts. I want picnics on the lake, you know, all those — all those special moments that I missed when I was away.

Jack: And that’s all?

Diane: And this. I want this moment right here with you because I feel — I feel worthy and wanted and safe. And, jack, I want a million moments more just like this. Ah.

Billy: I guess I’m just uber cautious about not making your life more difficult.

Chelsea: I’m okay. I am. Thanks to you, I’m on the right path. You don’t have to worry about me.

Billy: Yeah, well, I can’t help it. But just so you know, it goes both ways. I lean on you, as well. You know, being with you, hanging out like this — it’s been good for me. I don’t think about anything else. And, uh, you know, I’m just — I’m just here, and that’s nice.

Chelsea: I’m glad. I feel the same way.

[ Sighs ] The past few months have been really intense. I think you know me better than anybody.

Billy: Yeah. I feel like I got a glimpse into your soul. I feel like I saw you. And that’s a gift. I appreciate that.

Victoria: So, why are you keeping me in suspense here? What is your secret weapon?

Nate: Not what, but who? Audra. She left chancellor-winters, but she is still tight with tucker. She’s the one who let me know about his plans for omega sphere.

Victoria: Oh. So you have someone working on the inside. That’s great. I really appreciate you revealing your source. Most people would have tried to keep that quiet.

Nate: I trust you. I hope that goes both ways.

Victoria: [ Laughs ] It does. I have some information for you, too. My father and I have actually already discussed using audra as a way to take control of tucker’s company.

Nate: Ah. Great minds.

[ Both laugh ]

[ Glasses clink ]

Victoria: Yeah. You know, I do trust you completely, but we have to be very careful when it comes to audra. Tucker can’t find out about this, and if she slips up, he could be onto us.

Nate: She’s on our side. She’s agreed to keep me informed and help me predict his moves. We’ll stay one step ahead of him.

Victoria: I like the sound of that. But I’m still a little wary of her.

Nate: Fair enough. Look, she’s good at what she does, but part of that is playing the game. We’ll just have to play it better.

Victoria: I love that.

Nate: Mm. You know, most people don’t like this side of me. I find myself constantly keeping it under wraps. But being here with you, throwing out ideas, this — this is exhilarating.

Victoria: You know, you should never let anyone tell you who you are or how you should act. There’s nothing here that we’re doing wrong. If people want to judge us, they have no idea what it takes to fill our shoes, run a large company, leave behind a meaningful legacy. They have no idea what it takes to make things really happen.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Victoria: But you and me…

Nate: We do.

[ Bottle uncorks ]

Victoria: That’s damn right we do.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ] #1 isn’t a status earned overnight.

Diane: As much fun as I’ve had fantasizing about our future, I do have some concerns, and I know it violates the “positives only” rule, but we can’t ignore it, jack.

Jack: So, let me guess. Your concerns mostly have to do with people who want to get in the way of our happiness.

Diane: Yes, and no matter how many times you tell me, it doesn’t matter. There are people who will make things difficult for us.

Jack: What does it matter? This is ours. We earned this. We deserve this.

Diane: I don’t know that i do.

Jack: Of course you do. I know now the lengths you went to, to find your way back to us. I know the sacrifices you made. When we were together last time, it didn’t work out because we weren’t the people we needed to be yet. We had to go out into the world and grow and learn and make mistakes so we could find our way back to each other. Now — now we are the people we need to be to make this work. And by luck or fate or the magic of a necklace…

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: …We are together. And I don’t want to waste a moment of this.

Diane: [ Exhales sharply ]

Victoria: [ Exhales sharply ] Uh… those were some really good ideas about omega sphere and — and tucker, too. These are actually the kind of ideas that we need around here. So, good job.

Nate: Uh, great. Um, I’ll, um, set things motion first thing in the morning.

Victoria: Okay.

[ Clears throat ] I-I really think that we have something great started here. I’m — I’m starting to feel it.

Nate: Yeah, I’m feeling it, too.

[ Clears throat ]

Victoria: Okay, great. Well, I’m just gonna leave that here, and maybe we can finish it some other time. The — the drinking.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Right.

[ Clears throat ]

Victoria: Have a good night, nate.

Nate: You too, victoria.

[ Footsteps departing ]

[ Sighs heavily ]

[ Door opens ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Chelsea: I don’t really know what tonight was, but I do know I had a wonderful time.

Billy: Thank you.

Chelsea: I also know I would never want to do anything to jeopardize our friendship.

Billy: No. No, I agree. And that’s — that’s not gonna happen.

Chelsea: The reality is we went through something traumatizing together, something really intense. But we — we got through it, and we came out the other side.

Billy: Yeah, we did.

Chelsea: And you were right, what you said before.

[ Sighs ] It does go both ways. Over the past few months, I’ve seen your soul, too. I know who you are. And it brings me a lot of comfort.

Sally: I feel so content right now. You make me feel so special.

Nick: Because you are.

Sally: [ Breathes deeply ]

[ Sniffles ]

Nick: Hey, it’s okay.

Sally: No, it’s not. It’s not.

Nick: Look, I told you. Sally, I’ve got you. You’ve got nothing to worry about.

Sally: You really are the most kind and thoughtful man.

Nick: What is it?

Sally: Nick, I… I have to tell you something. It’s about the baby.

Chelsea: No, he’s meeting me back here once the rink session ends.

Adam: Ah.

Chelsea: You want to wait with me?

Adam: Thank you.

Chelsea: How’s work?

Adam: Hmm? Excuse me?

Chelsea: I didn’t mean to pry.

Adam: Uh, work is work. It’s — it’s — it’s fine.

Chelsea: Are you okay? You seem a little tense.

Adam: Turns out dear old dad is up to his usual treachery again. So I’m gonna have to watch my back at jabot.

Chelsea: I’m sorry to hear that.

Adam: Yeah. Except for jack, none of the abbotts want me there. I mean, that is so typical for victor to try to sabotage me.

Chelsea: And let me guess. Victor now wants to punish you for turning your back on the family and going to work for “the enemy.”

Adam: Oh, well, according to nick, he’s doing it to save me.

Victor: Oh, my goodness.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Victor: My sweet granddaughter.

Summer: Hi, grandpa.

Victor: How are you, my darling?

Summer: I’m doing just fine. How are you?

Victor: I’m doing well.

Summer: Good.

Victor: Yeah. Been a while since you and i have talked. How’s harrison?

Summer: Ah, he is a constant bright spot, even when things get challenging.

Victor: Mm. I think I know what you’re alluding to.

Summer: Do you?

Victor: Diane jenkins? Yep. Stunning how that woman was able to insinuate herself into our lives here in genoa city after all that she has done before, not only to jack and kyle’s lives, but considering what she has done in this town. My goodness. Anyway…

Summer: She’s entrenched, alright.

Victor: Yeah, and i understand that jack is doing all kinds of things for her, cleaning up her messes all over the place.

Summer: There’s not much i can do about that. Not that I have to like it.

Victor: No, but it’s complicated for you, isn’t it? Considering how much your mother loathes diane jenkins.

Summer: You want to know what’s even more frustrating?

Victor: Hmm?

Summer: It’s all of these plots and schemes that are constantly going on in both of our families. I mean, honestly, machiavelli had nothing on the newmans or the abbotts.

Victor: Machiavelli? That’s a renaissance man who wrote a book called “the prince” about how to rule people. You know? I mean, very flattering to be brought up in the same sentence with machiavelli, but I think it’s exaggerated, right?

Summer: I don’t think so.

Victor: You don’t?

Summer: I’ve been working really hard to convince kyle that we just need to avoid all the intrigue that is swirling around us, including yours, grandpa.

Victor: Hmm.

Diane: Oh! Hello, nikki. You’re looking well.

Nikki: Save it.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Excuse me?

Nikki: Don’t waste your breath with friendly chitchat. We are not friends, and we never will be. Could I have some water, please?

Diane: Alright.

Nikki: I know that you and jack were behind the break-in at our apartment in chicago. You stole my necklace and framed jeremy stark for it.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] What a bizarre accusation. Do you have any evidence to back it up?

[ Elevator doors opening ]

Jack: Kyle. You got a minute?

Kyle: Sure. I assume this is about what we discussed before, you and mom and where that’s headed? I just had a long talk with her.

Jack: No, it’s another subject entirely. I heard a rather disturbing rumor I’m hoping you can dispel.

Kyle: What rumor’s that?

Jack: Victor is plotting against adam, trying to undermine his work here, and you’re helping him to implement it.

Kyle: Where is this coming from?

Jack: It doesn’t matter. Just tell me it isn’t true. Technically when enamel is gone,

Kyle: Victor did approach me, but I haven’t committed to anything specific.

Jack: Then you have considered it. Look, I know you had misgivings about my hiring adam to pick up the slack here when you moved over to marchetti, but —

Kyle: Look, you’re the guy’s only real friend, which should tell you something, but that’s your call. However, when you make him co-ceo of the family company, I get to have an opinion.

Jack: You think adam is trying to take over jabot?

Kyle: No, no, no. I don’t know what his motives are, but I can tell you what he’s done since he’s been here. Not much. The guy is coasting, dad, calling it in from the bar at society most days and drawing a big, fat paycheck with primo perks while he sorts out that mess he calls a life. Am I wrong? How would you rate his job performance?

Jack: I have gone over status reports on the different divisions that adam oversees. I have spoken to division managers.

Kyle: Just like I have. And?

[ Folder thuds ]

Jack: And you are right. While he started strong, he has been slipping lately.

Kyle: More like M.I.A. Totally dropping the ball. It’s pretty unacceptable from a guy at his —

Jack: That is still something for adam and I to work through.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Not you, not anyone else. Victor certainly doesn’t have a place in this conversation. Frankly, neither do you.

Victor: So, my beautiful granddaughter, what’s on your mind?

Summer: There’s no point in talking around this, so I’m just gonna come right out and say it.

Victor: Okay.

Summer: Please stop trying to get kyle to help you with your plan to punish adam.

Victor: You seem upset.

Summer: I am upset. Things with kyle were going great. We were running marchetti. We were raising harrison. It was total bliss.

Victor: Sweetheart, the last thing I want to do is disturb that bliss.

Summer: The thing is, grandpa, is people in both of our families are involved in all of these secret maneuvers. It’s causing a lot of friction in our family.

Victor: So, where’s all this coming from?

Summer: [ Sighs ] Grandpa, my husband and I don’t keep things from each other.

Victor: Mm.

Summer: Kyle told me that you were looking for a way to push adam out of jabot and that you offered up some textile mills in exchange for his assistance. I mean, kyle doesn’t love having adam in the mix over there, but thankfully he turned you down. He told me that he didn’t want any part of it. So, what I’m asking you is to please stop asking him about it because he is not gonna change his mind.

Victor: Tell me something, sweetheart. Do you, um, think adam is where he belongs?

Adam: Victor’s plan du jour is to get me fired from jabot, after which he’ll dangle some irresistible position at newman, and then he will follow it up with a hearty welcome home. I mean, only — only victor newman would view trying to tank my career as an act of paternal affection.

Chelsea: Is he succeeding? Is your job in jeopardy?

Adam: No, not yet. I mean, at least not that I know of. Do you wanna hear what the punch line is? I’M…not happy at jabot.

Chelsea: Really? Why?

Adam: [ Sighs ] I don’t fit in there. As much as I try to, I just — I don’t connect to the work or the products that we sell there or the people…

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ]

Adam: …That I supervise.

Chelsea: That’s frustrating.

Adam: Yeah. As much as I hate to admit it and as much as my father’s methods are infuriating and wildly inappropriate… his instincts are dead on. Skin feeling dry? Swipe it away.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Nikki: You know, there have been such incredible advances in security technology — cameras so small they can be hidden anywhere. And the image quality? Ooh, so sharp.

Diane: I saw your reaction when it occurred to you that jack might have let himself into your apartment and maybe borrowed your necklace. And for a second, I thought you were going to suggest it to chance, but you didn’T. So I suspect that if you did have proof and you wanted to use it, you would have done so by now.

Nikki: Keep telling yourself that.

Diane: Mm-hmm, yeah. And as much as you hate me, i really don’t believe you’d put jack in that position just to get back at me. Besides, I also think you’re glad jeremy’s gone, however it happened, because your family was in danger, just like mine, thanks to phyllis and her recklessness.

Nikki: You seem quite confident that you’ve gotten away with another crime, as if everything is working out just as you planned. But you and I both know that’s an act because deep down, even you don’t believe it.

Kyle: I haven’t done a thing to adam. I haven’t needed to. He has done a great job sabotaging himself.

Jack: I understand why you might think that you, but —

Kyle: Dad, you went so far out on a limb for that guy, knowing there wasn’t a single person in our family who would support him being co-ceo. You risked alienating everyone because you believed so strongly in adam. He claimed he wanted to redeem himself, he want to turn his life around, like he always does. And this is how he repays you, doing mediocre work and dragging the company down?

Jack: You can’t say he’s dragging jabot down —

Kyle: No, this isn’t about whether victor has a plan to undermine adam or not. Who cares? The point is, he doesn’t deserve the position of authority you gave him. He shouldn’t be at jabot, full stop. Hell, the guy doesn’t even want to be here. So, what is this about, dad? Why not cut him loose and call it a day?

Chelsea: This is the first time I’m hearing you’re dissatisfied working at jabot.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Well, it’s the first time that I’m admitting it out loud. I mean, you know — I left newman because I was fed up with being disrespected, being strung along, being told that I’m valued but never being part of the inner circle. I mean, victoria has never missed a chance to remind me of that.

Chelsea: Yeah, but jack is finally giving you the status, the respect that you deserve, along with trust and responsibility. Why isn’t that enough for you?

Adam: That is a great question. And jack’s a true friend. He handed me a terrific opportunity. Trust me — I know how selfish and ungrateful I sound right now.

Chelsea: I’m not judging you. I’m just wondering what’s going on with you.

Adam: Yeah. Well, me too.

Chelsea: You know, when I was doing two fashion jobs at once and I wasn’t feeling passionate about either one of them, you gave me some good advice. You told me to step back instead of burning myself out, even though I didn’t want to listen to you.

Adam: Well, the last thing i think I am is overworked. To be honest with you, I’ve been slacking big time.

Chelsea: Well, that’s not like you.

Adam: Yeah. Well, maybe when I’m not up to something devious or trying to prove myself to someone who doubts me, I lose motivation.

Chelsea: Hmm. Well, maybe you need to make some enemies around the office.

Adam: I think besides jack, nobody wanted me to work there, so I don’t think that’s the issue. I have plenty of haters. I don’t know what’s wrong with me.

Chelsea: You know, another upside to working at jabot — you’re free from all that newman drama, which is something you’ve said you’ve always wanted.

Adam: Yeah. That is a good point.

Chelsea: However, on the other hand, jabot is a different kind of company than you’re used to working at, for sure. It’s a lot more laid-back, narrowly focused on cosmetics, definitely, you know, not as much of a challenge to run.

Adam: Well, I’m certainly not in any danger of running newman ever again.

Chelsea: If victor made you a great offer — I mean a great offer — where you could thrive, show off your talents, finally get the respect you deserve, you’re telling me you wouldn’t do it? Did you know, some ordinary cold medicines can raise your blood pressure?

Adam: I can’t imagine a scenario where I would be tempted to go back to newman. Last time I was there, they treated me like crap. “You’re ceo. Now you’re not.” And like you said, I have no desire to get sucked into their constant drama.

Chelsea: Well, that’s not really an answer. Just because you can’t imagine a scenario doesn’t mean it couldn’t exist.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, you got me there.

Chelsea: And you admitted yourself you don’t think that victor is trying to punish you with this little scheme of his. So, then why go to all the trouble? Do you think maybe, just maybe, deep down, he believes that you belong in his family, that you belong to be a part of this big newman empire, and maybe, in your heart of hearts, that’s what you want, too?

Adam: He might believe that. I guarantee you none of the rest of them care what I want.

Chelsea: That might be true. But victor is the only one who matters. Hi!

Billy: Hey. Connor, it’s your fan club.

Connor: Where?

Chelsea: No, he means us, silly. How was skating?

Connor: Totally great.

Johnny: Except for all the times dad fell on his butt.

Billy: Alright, I was little rusty.

Connor: I thought you were billy.

Johnny: Good one.

Billy: Alright, who wants hot chocolate?

Johnny: Ooh, I do!

Connor: Me!

Billy: Okay, good. So, go order whatever you want. Grab me a small coffee, please. Anybody else want anything?

Chelsea: I’m good, thanks.

Johnny: I thought you were chelsea.

Chelsea: Ohh!

Connor: You stole my joke.

Johnny: No, I didn’T.

Connor: Yeah, you did.

Johnny: It had to be funny to be a joke.

Connor: Ha ha.

Billy: Okay.

Summer: Only jack and adam can answer that question.

Victor: I want to hear it from you. You think that adam deserves to be co-ceo at jabot?

Summer: I think… I think it’s problematic. I mean, not everyone is a fan of his, and, honestly, I don’t really know why jack ever made that choice. And I don’t see how it ends well for anyone.

Victor: So, you don’t think adam has changed?

Summer: Is that a serious question?

Victor: Mm-hmm. You know, your father thinks that he deserves more of a chance.

Summer: Well, that’s because adam gave faith a kidney. And even that wasn’t enough to keep up the goodwill. I think my dad has realized with the rest of us always have known — that these flashes of humanity, they never last. Whenever adam does something good or heroic, it’s always calculated. It’s transactional. It’s because he wants something in return.

Victor: A lot of truth to what you say. But adam is my son.

Summer: Well, you know what, grandpa? It’s not even really about what my dad thinks or my opinion or even what adam does. This is about you trying to convince kyle to facilitate adam’s return to newman, which could cause a huge conflict between him and jack. And that’s the last thing my husband needs.

Victor: My darling, i appreciate your honesty, okay? And I will give what you said a lot of thought.

Summer: [ Sighs ] The last thing I want to do is be upset with you, grandpa.

Victor: You know that I adore you, okay?

Summer: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: You criticize adam all you want. His role at jabot is not up for debate. He answers to me, not you, not victor. And his work does not affect you or marchetti.

Kyle: Dad, listen to me —

Jack: I’ve listened to you! Now you listen to me. I stand by my decision to hire adam, and I will address his performance the same way I do any valued executive in this company. What I won’t do is fire him to please victor or to satisfy you. I am delighted that you are not involved in victor’s manipulations, but I will speak to him very soon.

Kyle: No, I really —

Jack: No, I think I’m done on this particular subject. I’d like to change the subject. There’s something else I’d like to talk to you about.

Kyle: What’s that?

Jack: You said you had a conversation with your mother. How did that go? Did you find it reassuring, her devotion, her commitment to you and the family, despite anything that might happen between the two of us?

Kyle: I’m trying to be open to this, dad, for your sake. I want you to be happy, both you and mom. But… look, just be careful, alright? Protect yourself.

Jack: What in particular is prompting that warning?

[Coughing]

Johnny: The best part — there was a hockey game on the second rink and connor played it.

Chelsea: You did? Like a pickup game?

Connor: Yeah.

Chelsea: Ah.

Adam: Well, how was it?

Connor: Epic. I wish you guys would have come.

Chelsea: If I got back on skates right now, I would end up entirely black and blue.

Johnny: [ Gasps ] You two could have matching bruises.

Billy: Oh, come on. I did not fall that often.

Johnny: He’s getting old. It happens.

Connor: [ Laughs ]

Billy: You know what? You’re — you’re — you’re now grounded.

Johnny: Oh, just like you were when you hit that ice and just absolutely sprawled out?

Billy: Alright, already! Enough is enough.

Connor: I think the grown-ups are better off sitting on the benches and talking about old movies or whatever, like they always do.

Chelsea: Well, that sounds about right. That’s pretty much our speed. Yeah.

Connor: [ Laughs ]

Billy: Cheers to old people.

Chelsea: Cheers to old people.

[ Laughs ]

Kyle: On the whole, it was a good talk. I felt like we were both being honest, and I got a lot off my chest.

Jack: Good. I’m glad to hear that.

Kyle: Mom was adamant there would be no more surprises from her past.

Jack: That’s a good thing. Or you doubt that?

Kyle: I don’t want to see you get hurt again. You’ve had your heart broken enough. I told her that.

Jack: And you think that’s inevitable?

Kyle: I hope not. God knows we’ve all been through enough trauma, but, dad, she has a history of making promises she can’t keep. Then we get surprised by people like jeremy stark.

Jack: He is no longer a threat.

Kyle: You took a big risk handling that. I appreciate it, and I know mom does, too. Although I’m still upset you handled it on your own and wouldn’t let me in.

Jack: You know what? That’s over. It’s taken care of.

Kyle: This time.

Jack: There will not be a next time, not if I have anything to say about it.

Kyle: And to answer your question… I am cautiously optimistic.

Jack: Good. Kyle, I am taking this next step with my eyes wide open. I hope you can see the positive aspects in all of this. I am happy. Diane is happy.

Kyle: That counts for a lot, dad.

Jack: Your parents have worked through the trauma of the past and are looking to a bright new future together. That is a very good thing.

Diane: I’m feeling optimistic about the future. Very optimistic.

Nikki: Well, you have nothing to fear from me. I’m not going to inject myself into the police investigation. And you’re right. Jeremy stark should never have been lured to town. It’s just as well for everybody that he has been arrested.

Diane: Oh. So, you’re acknowledging that i was right. That’s a first.

Nikki: Don’t get too excited. It’s merely another case of you using deception to get what you want, making jack do your dirty work.

Diane: Mm. Hypothetically speaking, if jack

had stolen your necklace, it would be because he wouldn’t let me take that risk.

Nikki: Well, I’m sure he enjoyed playing the hero. And given your optimism, perhaps this little brush with danger brought the two of you even closer. All that heightened emotion. Tell me — have you moved in with jack yet? Ah, not yet. Mustn’t appear too eager. But I’m sure you will make him think it’s his idea and he’ll jump into it with such enthusiasm and hope — because that’s the kind of person he is. But you have to know how ugly things will turn out because that’s just the natural course of things where you are concerned and that’s the kind of person you are.

Diane: You know, you’re behind the times, nikki. I haven’t moved in, but jack and I are back together already.

Nikki: Ugh. That’s unfortunate. He’s such a smart man, except when it comes to you.

Diane: No, he’s wise not to let other people’s opinions keep him from being happy.

Nikki: I guess jeremy stark’s sojourn to genoa city worked out well for you. It gave you the opportunity to play the damsel in distress, which a man as chivalrous as jack will find very appealing. You really should be grateful to phyllis.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] I’ll be sure and send her a thank-you card.

Nikki: I wouldn’T. Phyllis is all about the long game. So she will hold on to it and then throw it in your face when things inevitably fall apart.

Diane: Things won’T. What jack and I have is exciting and intense, but there’s also comfort and security in our history and the family we share. It’s real and it’s happening and it’s going to last a long, long time. And there’s nothing that you or ashley or phyllis can do to stop it. You see, nikki, that’s the natural course of things. So you better get used to it and leave us alone.

[ Keys jangling ]

Jack: [ Sighs ]

[ Keys clatter ]

Diane: Jack, I want you to know that I would never do anything to drive you away again.

Jack: Oh, god —

Diane: No, after everything I’ve been through and — and all those years, I — I know what it’s like to lose you. And kyle. To be alone. And I will — I will never put myself at risk for that again.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Jack: Chance. Hi. Uh, this is a surprise. What brings you by?

Chance: I am here on official police business. Ladies…

Jack: I’m not sure what this is about, but I’m always happy to help the gcpd.

Chance: Actually, I’m here on behalf of the chicago police department. Apparently this belongs to you.

Jack: Yeah, that looks familiar.

Chance: We found it when we did a more thorough search of mr. Stark’s suite. There’s $500,000 in there. Mr. Stark’s claiming that you loaned it to him.

Jack: Yeah, that’s right.

Chance: Well, since there’s no evidence that links this to the crime, it’s been released from police custody. So I guess you can consider your loan paid in full, assuming this is it.

Jack: Yeah, yeah, it certainly appears to be.

Chance: You want to know what I find really interesting, jack? That day I arrested stark, you and diane showed up, and you claimed you were there to discuss the money that diane owed stark. Yet you just handed him this great deal of cash. So, why was it still an issue?

Jack: Stark claimed that diane would never be in the clear until she paid him back herself.

Chance: Really? Then why did he take your money?

Jack: Well, I can’t begin to tell you how a criminal’s mind works, but I-I assume he… just the fact that he didn’t spend the money means he meant what he said.

Chance: I’m surprised he didn’t want to hold on to it, pay his lawyers. I mean, he’s looking at a pretty expensive trial, jack.

Jack: Well, I’m sure it looks pretty bad when a convicted money launderer has this kind of cash on hand. I’m sure he wanted to make it clear that he obtained it legally. But, I mean, that’s just a guess.

Chance: Why didn’t you mention this to me that day at the hotel, jack?

Jack: It didn’t seem relevant. I had no idea it was still in the suite. I assumed he’d put it in a bank somewhere.

Chance: Right. Well, this certainly has worked out for you, hasn’t it? Stark’s locked up, and you don’t lose a dime.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah, that’s, uh, pretty convenient. Have a good night, jack.

Jack: Take care, chance.

[ Door closes ] Wow.

Chelsea: Well, I’m glad you boys would have been willing to include me in all of your fun, but I actually had a bunch of things that I needed to accomplish today.

Billy: Checking things off the list — nothing more satisfying than that. Watch out, dmv. Here comes chelsea.

Chelsea: That’s right. I got this guy some extra school supplies, picked up some groceries — popcorn, of course, ultimate cheddar.

Billy: Thank you. My favorite.

Johnny: Well, while you guys were doing old-people things, connor was crushing it in the hockey game. He out-skated me, plus a ton of older guys. They were all like, “who is this kid?”

Chelsea: Hey!

Connor: It was cool.

Adam: Well, I would like to come see you next time, see you in action. But right now, uh, we should be heading home.

Connor: Okay. Thanks for taking us.

Billy: Anytime. It was my pleasure. Uh, you ready to go? Why don’t you make sure you got everything? I’m gonna drop you off at your mom’S. Are we, uh, still on for later? You want to try and grab something to eat?

Chelsea: Yeah. I’m looking forward to it.

Billy: Okay, great. You ready?

Johnny: Yeah.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Whoa. What a day.

Jack: Hey. Come here.

Diane: Aww. Mm.

Jack: You just missed chance.

Diane: Was he here on police business?

Jack: Yes, but in a nice way. The good detective was here to make a delivery — the half-million dollars I gave to stark.

Diane: You got it back?

Jack: Yep. It was confiscated when he was arrested. All the money was inside a briefcase with my initials on it. Stark claimed I had loaned him the money, and I hadn’t reported any stolen money, so the good folks at the chicago police department released it to me. It is in the safe right now.

Diane: Oh, that is so good to hear. I felt so guilty knowing that you handed all that money to jeremy just to get him to leave me alone.

Jack: A small price to pay for your safety.

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: Though we now know he was after more than just money. But we managed to turn the tables on him, working together.

Diane: Yeah.

Jack: Hey. What’s wrong?

Diane: Uh, I ran into nikki at the hotel.

Jack: Well, that couldn’t have been fun.

Diane: No, and she is certain that we orchestrated jeremy’s arrest by stealing her necklace.

Jack: Did she threaten you? Did she have any proof?

Diane: No, no. She tried to make me think she did. She was trying to make me nervous, but I called her bluff. I said that even if she did have proof, that she wouldn’t use it in that way because she knows that it would hurt you just to get back at me.

Jack: Good for you.

Diane: [ Sighs ] Yeah, but, uh — but then I probably said more than I should have.

Diane: I can’t guarantee what the future holds for me and jack, but I can promise you that whatever happens, I will never abandon you again.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

[ Knock on door ]

Kyle: Hey.

Summer: Hi.

[ Both breathe deeply ]

Kyle: Hello to you, too.

Summer: Thank you. I needed that.

Kyle: Well, you don’t hear me complaining.

Summer: How’s your day going?

Kyle: Oof. Turns out running a global fashion house is easier than managing my family.

Summer: Mm. Dealing with bad stuff can be a challenge.

Kyle: Yeah, my parents are moving so fast, and they think i ought to be thrilled for them.

Summer: And you’re not there yet. I get it. Neither am I.

Kyle: Don’t get me wrong. I want things to work out for them.

Summer: But like we discussed earlier, it affects us and harrison.

Kyle: Especially considering the blowback it’ll have on my dad. A lot of people are gonna hate he’s getting involved with my mom.

Summer: Yeah, like my mom and ashley, nikki.

Kyle: On top of that, someone told him victor is planning to get adam out of jabot with my help.

Summer: How did jack react?

Kyle: He was relieved when i told him I wasn’t participating.

Summer: Okay, see? Aren’t you glad that you listened to me? I mean, my grandpa may have convinced himself that what he’s doing is in adam’s best interests, but it has the potential to cause a huge conflict between you and your dad.

Kyle: Mm. To say the least.

Summer: I actually just ran into my grandpa.

Kyle: Yeah?

Summer: Yeah. I told him to stop trying to pressure you into going along with his plan — since you’re staying out of it. Y-you are, right?

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: I was looking for jack.

Kyle: He’s not here, as you can see.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Uh-huh. I gather you know what your husband’s up to? Victor… why are you still living with odors?

Nikki: It’s bad enough that diane is gonna get away with yet another caper. But now she’s glommed on to jack, bragging about how close they’ve become. It makes me sick.

Victor: They deserve each other. Let that be their punishment.

Nikki: [ Sighs ]

Jack: What exactly did you say to nikki that you wish you hadn’t?

Diane: [ Sighs ] I swear she was channeling phyllis. She was trying to push all my buttons. You know, basically, nikki told me that my life is destined to go down in flames.

Jack: I’m sorry she put you through that.

Diane: Yeah, I couldn’t stand that smug, condescending look on her face, so I said, “actually, no, my life is fabulous,” which it is. I told her that you and I were in a good place and that she needed to get used to seeing us together again. But maybe I shouldn’t have been so…

Jack: What? Provocative?

Diane: [ Chuckles ]

Jack: Why not? You were telling the truth. We have nothing to hide.

Diane: I can’t tell you how much I love hearing you say that, how good it makes me feel. But you know it’s just a matter of time before people start seeing us together again. Are you sure you’re ready for that?

Jack: Bring it on.

Diane: [ Laughs ]

Jack: I am very happy right now. Nothing is going to take that away from me.

Diane: Mm.

Adam: I assume that, kyle, given the kind of man you are, you share everything with your wife. Surely you know that he’s been working with victor to get me exiled from jabot. Yeah, I’m just — I’m surprised that you would do something so underhanded, knowing how royally it’s gonna piss off jack, and that you would go along with it.

Summer: Adam, whatever you think is going on, kyle has no part in it, and neither do I. And I don’t like the accusations you’re throwing around.

Adam: It really means that much to you to have me gone?

Kyle: Why don’t you just admit you really don’t even want to be here?

Adam: [ Sighs ]

[ Chuckles ]

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Chelsea: Hey.

Billy: Hi. You look great.

Chelsea: Oh, thanks. So do you. I spent an inordinate amount of time deciding what to wear, which sounds ridiculous, but… yeah. You know. Going out with a friend like this is a big deal for me at the moment, so…

Billy: Well, if it ever gets too much, you just say the word, okay? This is supposed to be fun and relaxing.

Chelsea: Fun. Right. I vaguely remember what that looks like.

Billy: Oh, I trust you’ll get it back.

Chelsea: [ Chuckles ] You know, I — I would never attempt this with anybody else. No pressure.

Billy: Look, I am honored that you feel comfortable enough to go to dinner with me. So…shall we?

Lily: Hi.

Abby: Uh, picking up food to go?

Lily: Uh, yeah, I am.

Abby: Do you want me to go check on your order?

Lily: No, no, no, it’s fine. They said it’d be ready in a few minutes.

Abby: Oh. Let me guess. You are picking up food to bring back to the office because you’re working overtime.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, well, there is a lot going on at chancellor-winters these days.

Abby: How are you feeling about everything?

Lily: Well, you were there when devon said he’s ready to go to court over this.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Lily: What do you think about it? I mean, I know that you’re loyal to devon, and clearly he trusts you if he said it was fine for you to stay while we were chatting.

It’s probably because I know you both so well, and he didn’t think it would do any harm.

Lily: Yeah. Well, I just really felt like I found a win-win situation for us. I mean, he gets to keep the name and get paid handsomely, and we get to move forward with the ipo. Anybody clearly, devon doesn’t feel the same way about it.

Lily: Yeah, but how do you feel about it? Because, I mean, you were very quiet during our conversation. Do you really think that devon is making the right decision?

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Devon: Look who it is.

Victoria: Hello, there, devon.

Devon: Hi, victoria.

Victoria: So, how are things going with the ipo?

Devon: Uh, well, why would I want to talk about that with you after you tried to take my company?

Victoria: I may have had some interest initially, but I’ve moved on.

Devon: Oh, well, that’s good to hear. You’ve been making some interesting choices lately at newman media. I hope you don’t regret hiring nate and audra, since they both betrayed chancellor-winters.

Victoria: I’m sorry there’s a rift between you and nate.

Devon: Are you?

Victoria: Yes, of course I am. I know how important family is, and I know how tricky family business can be.

Devon: Bet you do.

Victoria: Speaking of family, how are things going with tucker?

Daniel: Thank you. I’m willing to sit down with you, but anything we discuss regarding omega sphere is purely hypothetical. You know that I have a deal with chancellor-winters.

Tucker: I do. I was gonna ask you about that.

[ Clears throat ] What’s the current status of your contract there, with their ipo on hold?

Daniel: Should have a better idea in a week.

Tucker: I admire your patience [Chuckles] And your loyalty, [Inhales deeply] Especially to a company that seems so in flux.

Daniel: Well, lily is a dear and trusted friend.

Tucker: Hmm. Yeah, but she can’t know everything, right? And this is your vision, your future. It’s a possible legacy move for you. Have you ever been involved in anything potentially this big?

Daniel: Nothing of this scale when it comes to business. I was an artist, so I was painting, doing photography. These are all uncharted waters for me, which is why I need to make sure that I align myself with someone that I trust completely.

Tucker: You mean, someone unlike me.

[ Laughs ]

[ Glasses clink ]

Diane: Hey, thank you for telling me about your conversation with kyle. I need to speak to him now. You know, I just don’t want his fears about us to fester. And if he felt the need to discuss them with you, then I should do the same with him.

Jack: I’ll call and tell him to join us.

Diane: No, no, no, no. I should talk to him alone. I — I want him to be able to speak his mind freely without worrying what your reaction would be or wondering if you were going to defend me or not.

Jack: And we both know I would.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. This also is not a conversation for the office.

Jack: Okay, you decide what’s best.

Diane: Yeah. Kyle. Hi. I was wondering if we could talk. Um, can you meet me at the house?

Nick: As misguided as it is for dad to try and create trouble for you at jabot, it does seem like he wants to bring you back in the fold. Hey, is everything alright?

Sally: Yeah, it’s fine.

Nick: Doesn’t seem like that.

Adam: Uh, my brother was just alerting me to a potential land mine set by our father, and I was about to thank him, even though his motives were potentially self-serving.

Adam: Oh,no, we’re not ready to throw a fist just yet. We are, um — what are we doing? How would you characterize this, nicholas?

Nick: Just trying to keep our father from causing trouble.

Sally: Hmm. Good. Uh, you know, I — I’ve kind of lost my appetite. I-I should get going, but —

Adam: Hold on a second. Alright, you are not acting like yourself. What’s — what’s wrong?

Sally: It’s nothing, I swear. You know, I just have a lot on my mind, getting this new company going. You know, we’ve hit a few snags, but it’s all gonna work out.

Nick: I’ll leave with you.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

Nick: What’s going on? That phone call really seemed to upset you.

Sally: Uh, it was my O.B., Dr. Chandler, but I really don’t want to talk about it in here, so…

Adam: [ Sighing ]

Devon: Why would you ask me about tucker?

Victoria: I just know that it must be tense now that you know his true motives for coming to genoa city was to take control of chancellor-winters and jabot. I mean, it must hurt, given that when he first came back, he said that he wanted to connect with you and dominic.

Devon: Well, I didn’t trust him from the day he turned up, so that doesn’t hurt that much. But I imagine that you learned about his true motives from audra?

Victoria: No, actually, i talked with tucker about it myself.

Devon: Oh, you did? That’s interesting. You seem awfully curious about my relationship with him and the ipo and chancellor-winters, all in the same conversation.

Victoria: I’m just asking you as a friend. It’s not business.

Devon: I don’t know if you’d call us friends, victoria, but I do know that you don’t do anything casually. So why don’t you just come clean about what you really want?

Tucker: I know you’re wary of me, and not without good reason, considering my history in this town with some of the folks. But I just wish I could convince you that we share a similar vision.

Daniel: Hmm. I actually do think that we share some common ground. Your pitch earlier struck a chord with me.

Tucker: Really?

Daniel: Mm hmm. So much so that I spoke with my mother about it.

Tucker: Uh-oh.

Daniel: [ Chuckles ]

Tucker: I cannot imagine phyllis was in favor of us going into business together.

Daniel: [ Chuckles ] Oh, you are correct. Well, this is my venture. I’m going to make the final decision as to who we partner with if things do fall apart at chancellor-winters. My mother, well, she’s going to have to deal with whatever decision I make.

Tucker: I like the sound of that, although I know phyllis can be a little, uh…

Daniel: Bossy?

Tucker: [ Chuckles ]

Daniel: Stubborn?

Tucker: [ Chuckles ]

Daniel: Always thinks she’s right?

Tucker: I was gonna say “formidable,” but…

Daniel: Mm-hmm. Well, she works for me, so I’ll handle her. And that doesn’t mean I’m gonna turn my back on lily — you know, not without cause.

Tucker: Sure.

Daniel: I just hope that’s something that you can appreciate and, um, maybe back off until things have settled.

Tucker: But you should know, my company is absolutely the most viable place for your dream to come to life. And, uh, [Chuckles] When i set my heart to something, I — I don’t ever give up, which [Sighs] Has been a problem for me, learning to let go. So I’ve been combating that with the belief that things are going to work out the way they’re meant to. You know, simply trust the universe and all that?

Daniel: I’m sorry, what did you say?

Abby: Look, I have seen far too many times how business can damage family relationships. And at first, I was trying to nudge devon to accept the buyout.

Lily: Yeah, well, too bad it didn’t work.

Abby: I disagree. I mean, after listening to devon, I understand his perspective. Hamilton-winters means so much to him, and it would be awful for him to lose it to some ipo that he never supported in the first place.

Lily: Yeah, but do you realize how ugly a lawsuit could become? I mean, you think there’s hurt feelings and resentment now. Imagine what going to court would do.

Abby: Honestly, I don’t know why you and jill don’t just accept devon’s decision. Chancellor industries was huge before it ever merged with hamilton-winters. So why don’t you just go back to that? And why are you willing to fight your brother for something that’s dollars and cents to you, but it means everything to devon? I think it says more about your priorities than anything else.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] How dare you question my priorities? To you, it may just be an elevator.

Lily: Who are you to tell me that I care more about my business than my family? My family has always been a priority to me, and I really resent you saying otherwise.

Abby: I think you’re misinterpreting what I said. I never said you didn’t value your family.

Lily: Abby, I’m only talking to you about this because I’m trying to figure out a way to have devon and I work this out together. I’m not trying to get you to convince him to not fight for his company. I’m trying to convince him to stay at chancellor-winters.

Abby: Devon has made it clear — drop the ipo.

Lily: Jill is not gonna go for that. She’s not. The whole reason for this merger was to have our family work together. And I’ve already lost nate, and now I feel like I’m losing devon. And he’s saying that he wants to protect our father’s legacy. Like, he’s my father, too. Of course I want to protect his legacy. And he doesn’t realize that if we go to court over this, it could damage hamilton-winters. And I don’t think he’s considering that risk.

Abby: Have you said this to your brother?

Lily: I’ve tried. I have tried, and he just seems so set in doing this. Abby, listen, I would never ask you to go against your instinct, but you said you know what kind of turmoil this could cause to a family. So a legal battle would damage us all. So I’m just asking you if you think that devon might regret walking away. Just tell him that. Please, just tell him that, as one last try.

Victoria: I’m not sure what you mean. I don’t really have anything to come clean about.

Devon: Oh, really? Okay, well, then I’m gonna go ahead and take off because I need to get back home. Abby is dropping off dominic, so I’ll see you later.

Victoria: Devon, uh…

Devon: Yeah?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] = You may not see it this way, but I still — I still see you as a friend. And we are connected by family through abby and dominic. I hope we can find a way to separate the business and the personal. I’ve had to learn to do that as a newman. It’s not easy.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Victoria: But if you count everyone that you have a different professional agenda with your enemy, then your circle gets very small.

[ Footsteps departing ] Um… can I get a coffee to go? And, um… a croissant? Thank you.

Tucker: I’m — I’m trying to trust the universe?

Daniel: [ Chuckles ] The same exact thing that heather always used to say to me. Sorry. It just caught me off guard, hearing those words.

[ Sighs ] Anytime I would lose my patience, get frustrated, she would always tell me to stop fighting and trust the universe.

Tucker: Hmm. You miss her a lot?

Daniel: I do. But I’m following her advice and yours. I’m living my life and I’m having faith that one day we’re gonna be reunited. That’s — that’s the reason why this project is so important to me and believe that it’s the path that I’m meant to be on, the one that’s gonna bring me back to lucy and heather. So I’m just trusting the universe.

Tucker: Hmm. I guess you must have a certain amount of trust in phyllis, too.

Daniel: Why would you say that?

Tucker: I assumed she was going to portugal to help smooth things over with your partner and daughter. The universe needs a little boost sometimes.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Diane: [ Sighs ]

[ Door opens ]

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

[ Door closes ]

Diane: Hey, thanks for coming. Um, I-I know you’re busy, but I — I kind of felt like this conversation couldn’t wait, and, well, I thought we could use some privacy.

Kyle: What you want to talk about?

Diane: Well, I spoke to summer, and she clearly has reservations about jack and i being romantically involved again. I — I tried to address her concerns, but I-I-I don’t know how effective I was.

Kyle: Well, I haven’t had a chance to talk to summer about that yet.

Diane: Well, I also spoke to jack, and he told me that the two of you talked earlier.

Kyle: Thought that was supposed to be a private father-son conversation. Is this how it’s gonna be now — I say something to one of you and it’s automatically shared with the other?

Diane: No, no, absolutely not. But, kyle, that’s why I wanted to talk to you. I-I don’t want to hear how you’re feeling from summer or from jack. I want to hear it from you. And [Sighs] I want you to be honest with me. Suffering from sinus congestion, especially at night?

Kyle: I am still processing the idea that you and dad are back together. Like I said before, when you broke the news. I’m conflicted.

Diane: And I want you to tell me why.

Kyle: I’m worried things may not work out, which happen way more often than “happily ever after.”

Diane: Kyle, I have no intention of messing things up with jack. I love your father’s big heart, and I am not going to break it again.

Kyle: I want to believe that. But people make promises and things happen. Things have happened. I know you’ve hurt him in the past, moving us around, cutting us off from him.

Diane: Alright, well, things were complicated back then.

Kyle: Yeah, but dad’s heart is not complicated. And if it is broken, so is the entire abbott family, because we rely on him, we lean on him.

Diane: I know, and I accept that responsibility.

[ Sighs ] But I-I can’t let the fear of what might happen keep me from being happy now. And it’s not just one-sided. I mean, I’m taking a leap of faith with this romance, too. We both are. Because, I don’t know, it just feels right in so many ways that it hasn’t before. But you’re right, you’re right. There are no guarantees. But jack and i both have a lot at stake. And we’ve gone into this consciously and cautiously.

[ Sighs ] But I get the sense that there’s more going on for you when it comes to this. You’re not just protecting jack’s heart, are you?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Nick: [ Sighs ] Alright, now that we, uh, have some privacy, do you want to tell me what your doctor said?

Sally: Um, yeah, I’m — I, um– I just went in for some routine prenatal testing, and — and everything’s fine, but, um, they want me to come back in because my blood pressure is high.

Nick: Has that been an issue for you in the past?

Sally: No, not at all. And I mean, dr. Chandler assured me there was nothing to worry about at this point. I’m in good physical shape. They said they’d just keep an eye on it and treat it if need be.

Nick: Okay, well, it sounds like your doctor’s just being cautious.

Sally: Yeah. Yeah, but it still threw me. It just got me thinking about this massive responsibility coming my way and all the ways that my life is gonna change, in the ways that I’m gonna have to adjust — ways that I-I can’t predict and ways I-I never even planned for. And just got me thinking, how — how am I gonna navigate all of it?

Tucker: Yeah, phyllis told me about her trip to portugal. You seem surprised. Did you not know?

Daniel: [ Chuckles ]

Tucker: Oh, man, I’m sorry I-I overstepped. Pretend I didn’t say anything.

Daniel: No. No, no, I-I appreciate the information. Not a big fan of surprises, especially ones concocted by my mother.

Tucker: Mm. Yeah, I’m — again, I’m sorry if I caused you any trouble. Listen, I got to get going, but I’m really looking forward to continuing this conversation. So, alright, man? Give me a call anytime you want. Okay?

Daniel: Thank you.

Tucker: Alright. See you.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Daniel: [ Clears throat ] I don’t know what you think you’re doing, but you better stop. You better not have gotten on that plane.

Devon: [ Sighing ] Oh, yeah. Oh.

Abby: Hey, you.

Devon: Hey.

Abby: I just got here. Dominic had a busy day at the play gym, so I put him down for a nap.

Devon: Oh, nice.

Abby: Is everything okay? What’s on your mind?

Devon: Um, I just ran into victoria at the coffeehouse, and now I can’t shake the feeling that she’s up to something with tucker.

Abby: Why would victoria be involved with tucker in any way?

Devon: I have zero idea. But she seemed oddly curious about my relationship status with him, and I don’t know if it had anything to do with chancellor-winters or not, but…

Abby: Weird. Um… [ Chuckles ]

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: Oh, I actually had an interesting run-in with your sister, and she said some things that surprised me.

Devon: How so?

Abby: I thought that lily was fighting you over hamilton-winters because she wanted to hang on to the winters half of chancellor-winters.

Devon: If she’s not, why is she fighting me at all and refusing to sell me my company back?

Abby: Or maybe that’s her way of getting you to stay on.

Devon: How does she figure that’s gonna work? Getting me to stay on board? What, she wants to unify our family by not listening to my concerns and refusing to sell me back hamilton-winters?

Abby: Look, I know that it sounds crazy, but I saw lily’s pain. I could hear it in her voice. And, yes, maybe for jill, it’s about the bottom line. But for lily, I think she just wants to hang on to her dream. The dream of you two working together. She doesn’t want to hang on to hamilton-winters. She wants to hang on to you.

[ Paper tearing ]

Esther: Knock, knock.

[ Chuckles ]

Lily: Hey.

Esther: [ Chuckling ] Hi. I thought you could use a pick-me-up, and I made it just the way you like it.

Nick: I know you were hoping you wouldn’t have to deal with the reality of becoming a parent for a little while longer. But it sounds like your pregnancy has other plans in mind. I know it can be overwhelming.

Sally: Oh, you don’t know. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I just — I-I-I am overwhelmed.

Nick: I know. I know. You’re not alone in this. Okay? I’m right here with you.

Sally: I just don’t want this to put any pressure on us. I mean, we’re supposed to be taking things slow. We’re just figuring this out. You know what this is, who we are.

Kyle: I feel like I’m taking a big risk opening up my heart to you again. I thought you were gone forever. And then you just showed up, and I had to wrap my head around the fact that you purposefully abandoned me. You let me believe you were dead. And when I found out you were alive, all those memories came rushing back. You can’t imagine what that was like.

Diane: Uh, you’re right. I — I can’T.

Kyle: And I had to reconcile the existence of a woman who could do that to her son with the nurturing mother I remember from my childhood. And you swore you worked for years to turn your life around, and you came back to ask my forgiveness, to be in my life and harrison’S. And I desperately wanted to believe you were genuine, that the hole you had left could be filled, and you have filled it to a large degree. But it is still hard to quiet the lingering doubts in the recesses of my mind.

Diane: Tsk. I… I don’t know if I will ever be able to heal the wound that I create. But, kyle, you have to believe me that you and harrison are the reason I came back, the reason I’ve stayed.

Kyle: Yeah, but we continue to be surprised by secrets from your past. The danger jeremy stark brought to our family. The risky plot you enlisted my dad in.

Diane: That wasn’t my intent.

Kyle: I know it was mostly dad’s idea, but he became a jewel thief for you. He stole from summer’s grandmother for you. So, excuse me if I have some reservations about where this relationship with my father could lead.

Diane: [ Sighs ] We pulled people off the street

Esther: Oh! Oh, you’re here! Oh. Oh, gosh. Uh-oh, I-it’s too much. Sorry. I-I-I just got caught up.

Devon: It’s okay. You alright?

Esther: I-I-I promise, I’m being discreet and not engaging in office gossip. But I want you to know that I absolutely adore you. You’re mrs. C’s grandson, and dom is katherine’s sweet great-grandchild. And I absolutely love working here for her family and for yours. And I-I-I’m just praying that you and your sister can work things out.

Devon: Oh, thank you very much for saying that. It means a lot to me. But I promise you, we’re gonna be just fine. We are. Sometimes things have to change, and you know, it’s the way things are. But I’m glad that you’re still the same esther that I’ve always known and loved.

Esther: Oh, back at you, sweetheart. Oh. Mwah.

Devon: Appreciate you.

Esther: I so love you.

Devon: We’ll be just fine. I’ll see you.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Tucker: Oh, abby. Hi. I didn’t expect to see you. Did I knock on the wrong door?

Abby: Devon’s not here. I’m watching dominic. You know, devon and I are co-parents, so it shouldn’t be that surprising to see me here.

Tucker: No, just cut me a little off guard. May I come in? I got a little gift for dominic.

Abby: Dominic’s sleeping. And don’t think that this gift is gonna win any favor with devon or score any points with me.

Tucker: Your unapologetic disdain for me is very refreshing.

Abby: Well, there’s no need to fake civility, now that we know the real reason you’re in town.

Tucker: Oh, yeah. I understand why you might feel that way, given what you’ve heard, but I don’t believe you know the whole story. Will you give me a minute so I can tell you the rest of it?

Abby: [ Sighs ]

[ Footsteps approaching ]

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: Can I talk to you for a minute?

Jack: Absolutely. Come on in.

Adam: Hmm.

Jack: How’s it going?

Adam: Pretty smoothly. Or so I thought [Clears throat] Up until today.

Jack: Oh?

Adam: I just, uh, wanted to let you know that things might get a little more tumultuous around here.

Jack: Why is that?

Adam: Well, I don’t know all the details, but I found out that victor is working on a scheme to pull the rug out from under me here at jabot.

Jack: I can’t say I’m surprised. It’s kind of a classic victor move. Is he punishing you for leaving newman?

Adam: Well, according to nick, he wants to force me to come back to the company and the family. Guessing he thinks, if I failed here, it’d be a motivator to bring me back home.

Jack: Never ceases to amaze me how that man’s mind works.

Adam: ‘Cause it’s so twisted.

Jack: You said that, not me.

Adam: Well, at least, now that I know there is a plan in the works, I can avoid the trap.

Jack: We can handle victor and whatever plans he has.

Adam: Mm-hmm. There is one other thing that I need to tell you that I don’t think you’re going to be happy about. I suspect that kyle is involved.

Diane: Now that jeremy stark is out of our lives, there’s no more danger. And there are no more secrets from my past.

Kyle: Relieved to hear that.

Diane: And I’m not going to hurt jack or break his heart.

Kyle: There’s a part of me that sincerely hopes this works out. And my dad has assured me that he is walking into this with his eyes wide-open. But relationships implode all the time for all kinds of reasons. What happens if that’s the case? What will you do?

Diane: You’re still afraid that I’m going to leave again. Kyle, listen to me.

Tucker: I profoundly regret how I bungled my attempt to reconnect with devon. I came back to genoa city expressly to bond with him, both professionally and personally. But I handled it wrong and made a major miscalculation.

Abby: It’s interesting how you left my mother out of your mea culpa.

Tucker: No, I wronged her, too. But while she’s on a different continent, there’s not much I can do about that. But I don’t plan on throwing in the towel when it comes to devon. I-I genuinely want to find a way to make things right with him. Uh, I’m just not gonna give up on my own son or my grandson.

Abby: Well, you should, immediately.

Tucker: Excuse me?

Abby: Devon is going through a lot right now. And the last thing he needs is more trouble from you. All you do is bring pain and turmoil into people’s lives. You’re bad news. You always have been.

Tucker: You’re protective of devon, and I admire that.

Abby: You should go… now.

[ Sighs ]

Tucker: I’ll be back another time…

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Tucker: …Because this is not the end of this.

Abby: It is, if I have anything to say about it. Here’s a little advice. Don’t cross me. Don’t cross us.

[ Door slams ]

[ Sighs ]

Lily: This is a surprise. What, uh — what’s going on?

Devon: Abby told me about the conversation you guys had.

Lily: Okay, what did — what did she say?

Devon: She said that you told her that the real reason that you want to keep ahold of hamilton-winters isn’t just to strengthen the ipo, but rather to keep me on board so we can keep working together as a family.

Lily: Yes. Yes, that’s true. So I hope the fact that you’re here means that you believe it.

Devon: No, I’m here because it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. And I don’t know why you would use abby to influence me one way or the other.

Lily: Uh, [Chuckles] Okay. Uh, no, I did not seek her out. We ran into each other. And, yeah, I was talking to her because I thought maybe she could get you to hear what I haven’t been able to do, which is that I’m sad and I’m scared because I’m afraid of how ugly this lawsuit could get. And I don’t want us to have what we created fall apart.

Devon: Yeah, but realize it’s only fallen apart because of what you or jill are doing to me. You’re siding with her to move forward with this ipo, despite how I feel, and now you’re not giving me my company back.

Lily: Devon, that’s not true. I-I want you to stay here. I want us to keep working together.

Devon: Right, as long as i go along with you and jill. A partnership doesn’t work like that. And you claim to care about neil’s legacy, but you won’t let me protect hamilton-winters properly. So you’re just proving to me that you care more about profits and jill’s agenda than you do your family or me.

Lily: [ Sighs ]

Devon: And the fact that you don’t see it that way, it hurts.

Kyle: [ Sighing ] Man. I want to believe you. I do. Just like all the other times, I’ve given you the benefit of the doubt. Of course, I want you and dad to be happy. Why wouldn’t I? But you’ve asked me to be honest about how I feel. That’s what I’m doing. And in my heart, I’m scared another shoe is gonna drop.

Diane: Kyle, I promise, there are no more secrets. There are no more surprises from my past.

Jack: I know kyle had real reservations about my hiring you to replace him, but I can’t imagine he would purposely try to sabotage you. Least of all, with victor.

Adam: Okay, trust me, jack, I didn’t want to believe it either, but I saw victor and kyle together. And frankly, their cover story wasn’t very convincing. And I know my father has a good poker face, but I read him pretty well, and I know how he operates.

Jack: As do I.

Adam: Look, I’m not trying to cause any trouble for you or for the company. I just — I’m trying to avoid that. Just thought you’d like to know that I think your son is conspiring with my father to take me down.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: Do you have time to talk?

Jack: It’s about Marchetti?

Kyle: No. Personal stuff. Um…I want to know what’s going on with you and mom.

Jack: Yeah. Okay. Um, what is it you’re curious about?

Kyle: How serious the two of you are. I know things are going well right now.

Jack: Yes, they are.

Kyle: Do you really think that will last? Because I know you’ve been able to get past the lies and mistakes so far, but I think your relationship may be what finally blows up this family.

Diane: Summer. Do you have a minute?

Summer: Um, I just came home to check on Harrison really quick, and then I was running back to the office. Is — is it something Marchetti-related or…?

Devon: Oh, no, no, no. I would save that for the office. This is more personal.

Summer: [ Sighs ] Okay. What’s up?

Diane: Well, I get the sense that you’re less than thrilled that Jack and I are romantically involved again.

Summer: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. I don’t want to see Jack get hurt. And I really don’t want to see Kyle caught in the middle of the fallout when things go wrong, which I’m pretty certain that they will go wrong.

Chloe: You know, I just can’t believe we flew all the way to L.A. — I left Kevin with the kids — just to be rejected so harshly.

Sally: Yeah, I mean, what a colossal waste of time.

Chloe: Well, I’m not so worried about the time. It’s more about the mess I had to deal with when I got home.

Sally: I thought Kevin was pretty tidy around the house.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] Yeah, he is. But men are just very simple creatures. They can focus on the house and they can focus on the kids, but they cannot do both. You will learn this soon enough.

Sally: Okay. Well, that seems like a massive generalization. Maybe Nick will be different. I have to text him that I’m back.

Chloe: The point is, we could have been rejected just as easily here in genoa city.

Sally: I know. And as I said before, I-I’m really sorry. I knew that this venture would be a difficult climb, but i don’t understand why Jill would just slam the door in our face without actually hearing our pitch.

Chloe: You have no idea?

Sally: I think she said that she had a change of mind? I got the sense that maybe she learned something unpleasant about my history. But that also doesn’t make sense because the first time i met Jill, she seemed to admire the fact that I left my past behind and changed my life.

Chloe: So, she admired you, and then she wouldn’t let us in the door to meet with her. What the hell happened?

Victor: Business meetings get canceled all the time, son.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Why won’t you just give me a straight answer? Did you convince Jill to call off that meeting with sally and Chloe?

Victor: I talked to Jill, yeah.

Nick: About sally?

Victor: I gave her an honest assessment of sally’s qualifications.

Nick: [ Exhales heavily ] I knew it. You killed that meeting. It’s a meeting that meant nothing to you but everything to them. It’s not enough that sally was fired from Newman Media by Victoria for no good reason. Now you’re sabotaging opportunities for her?

Victor: Jill Abbott is a very clever businesswoman. She’s not gonna get involved with someone that’s not worth the effort. Whatever happened to sally spectra is her own doing.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Tucker: Oh, no. Have the tables finally turned? Has Diane driven you out of town?

Phyllis: You’re an ass.

Tucker: Where are you going?

Phyllis: I’m trying to catch a flight.

Tucker: Oh, yeah?

Phyllis: Mm.

Tucker: Business or personal trip?

Phyllis: Uh, a little bit of both. And unlike you, I will be successful at both. [ Chuckles ]

Lily: Yep, that’s right, Jill. Look, it’s not gonna be easy, but we’ll come up with a plan. Okay. I’ll talk to you soon. Bye.

Daniel: Sounded important.

Lily: Uh, yeah. If I’m talking to Jill, then it probably is. She doesn’t really chitchat.

Daniel: Hmm. So, no resolution yet on Devon taking Hamilton-winters back from chancellor?

Lily: No. We made him an offer. He declined and won’t budge. And neither will Jill.

Daniel: Which means you’re caught in the middle.

Lily: Yeah, exactly. And I have to figure out a way to make chancellor functioning and profitable in the meantime.

Daniel: That’s unfortunate. It must be incredibly difficult.

Lily: I feel like what you really want to ask me is, is there a future for your project?

Nick: Why are you trying to destroy sally?

Victor: Son, to be frank with you, I don’t give a damn about sally spectra, okay? So stop this nonsense. I know the kind of woman she is. She has ruined your brother. She’s gonna ruin you.

Nick: She did no such thing.

Victor: What the hell is he doing now? He’s sitting at jabot doing nothing, selling lipstick and perfume, only because he was infatuated with her! She has dragged him down!

Nick: No, it’s the other way around.

Victor: No!

Nick: He dragged her down. Sally’s the one with the work ethic and the ambition who makes the most of every opportunity.

Victor: Yeah, with the ambition. You’re right.

Nick: Adam has been handed everything over and over again, dad, and he blows them all up, whether it’s career or romance. He fails at everything because of his attitude. And for you to assume I’m gonna end up like Adam for any reason at all is beyond insulting.

Sally: I just can’t believe my past would be an obstacle to starting this company. I’m really sorry. You should not be punished for the things that I’ve done.

Chloe: It’s okay. My own sordid past has reared its ugly head once in a while. And Jill is not the only game in town. We just need to find funding somewhere. What about Nick’s offer to loan us the money?

Sally: No. No, absolutely not. My situation with him is already uncomfortable enough now that he knows that I’m pregnant, okay? So let’s not add the money issue to the situation. I’m already worried that he’s gonna feel obligated to make things more serious than he might have wanted.

Chloe: But I thought he cleared all that up.

Sally: Nick has been sweet and supportive, but it’s not like we, you know, spoke about anything long term. You know, there’s a lot of time between now and the miracle of childbirth. You know, anything could happen. I mean, Nick could decide to up and bail on us altogether.

Chloe: Nick would never do that. He is such a good guy.

Sally: Yeah. He’s the best. I’m just not feeling very secure right now. What Nick and I have is really great. He’s sexy and he’s sweet and he’s honest. But like I said, things could change.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] The Adam possibility.

Adam: What is the Adam possibility?

Phyllis: And can you please, please tell them to just leave all my mail and the package that I’m expecting back here until i get back from Portugal, please?

Tucker: Portugal? Isn’t that where Daniel’s partner and daughter are living now? That’s interesting.

Phyllis: Well, that’s interesting to me, of course. It shouldn’t be interesting to you.

Tucker: Is Daniel going with you?

Phyllis: What I do and what my son does — it’s none of your business. By the way, I told my son to keep away from you.

Tucker: So, he’s sticking around in town?

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] It’s not your concern.

Tucker: Yeah. He’s sticking around, isn’t he? Gonna work on his gaming platform. Yeah, he’s got a bold vision. When I talked to him, I was really impressed with how creative he is, and yet he’s also savvy, focused. It’s a nice combination.

Phyllis: Leave my son alone.

Tucker: Come on. He’s got the hottest project in town. It would be, uh — [ Chuckles ] It would be business malpractice if I didn’t try to get a piece of it.

Phyllis: Um, you seem desperate, Tucker.

Tucker: Is that so?

Phyllis: Yeah, because you’re a billionaire. You own a huge conglomerate. You’re here in this sleepy town trying to poach a gaming platform. I mean, what is that? You’re trying to take it out from under chancellor-winters. That’s your son’s company. What are you doing? You know, I’ll tell you. It seems like you haven’t had a win in a while.

Tucker: Mm.

Phyllis: And you’re just kind of jonesing for one. Just saying.

Tucker: Yeah. Well, Phyllis, you have a nice trip. [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: Damn it.

Daniel: You’re right. I am concerned about the future of omega sphere. I came to you with a business venture, and you signed on. But I know that that was in part because of our friendship. And, yes, this project means the world to me and I want nothing more than to move forward with it, but I’m also worried about what all this turmoil at your company is doing to you. Are you okay?

Lily: Yeah. I’m fine. I just — I have a lot going on right now.

Daniel: Well, if anyone can handle that, it’s you.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Thank you. I just — I — I feel very overwhelmed, you know, ’cause I want to do right by you. I want to do right by Jill, by the company. But it’s like Devon has thrown everything into chaos. I mean, he’s ready to enter a lawsuit with chancellor. And so we have to shelve the IPO again, you know? And I don’t have Billy. I don’t have Nate or Audra. So I just feel like I’m entering this hurricane by myself.

Daniel: Well, you’re not totally alone.

Lily: [ Sighs ] Yeah, I don’t think you can really help me with this one.

Daniel: I meant Jill. And you must have some good, smart people at the company that you can rely on.

Lily: Yeah, no, of — of course I do. I just have to be realistic about what could happen because I think being in denial could be a recipe for disaster.

Jack: Look, I appreciate your concerns. I want to alleviate them. What is it that has you worried about my relationship with your mother?

Kyle: All of it.

Jack: Can you be more specific?

Kyle: Your past. Look, you’ve tried this before. It has always blown up. I mean, she faked her own death, which I have forgiven her for, but it’s —

Jack: You’re worried that she’s going to revert to old patterns.

Kyle: Yes.

[ Sighs ] I love her. I love seeing her with Harrison. But she is who she is. She doesn’t play by the rules. Look at this situation with stark.

Jack: Wait — in fairness, most of that plan was my idea. No, you can’t judge her for that. Look, I don’t think that what she did to get out from under stark’s thumb is indicative of any moral failing.

Kyle: There were already shady things happening.

Jack: Yes, because there were difficult circumstances. Kyle, I would do the same thing again in a heartbeat. It worked. Look, I will take full responsibility. The last thing I want is for my decisions to come between you and your mother.

Kyle: You really care about her, don’t you?

Jack: I really do.

Kyle: After all this time, how do you know the two of you will be a good fit now?

Jack: We are older. We are wiser. We have both mellowed. We are each more accepting of the other’s faults.

Kyle: You sure the two of you aren’t in denial?

Jack: Our eyes are wide open.

Kyle: What if she hurts you? What if you hurt her? What if she runs away and leaves us again? There will be no coming back from that, not for me.

Diane: You’re bound to have doubts. And who knows? Maybe Jack and I won’t last. But I can tell you that I have deep affection for him.

Summer: That I believe.

Diane: Yeah, he’s thoughtful and considerate. He — he makes me happy. And I feel stronger when I’m with Jack, if that makes any sense.

Summer: Sure. I get the same feeling from Kyle.

Diane: Well, I’m going to do whatever I can to make things work. And, really, the only thing i see getting in our way is your mother.

Summer: I really don’t think you should worry about her.

Diane: [ Chuckles ] Really? Phyllis has such deep resentment and anger towards me. She’s determined to cause me not just trouble, but pain. And, frankly, it’s a little disturbing. And, you know, where does that leave Jack?

Summer: What do you mean?

Diane: Well, she claims that she cares about him, but she clearly doesn’t respect his choices.

Summer: [ Laughs ] She might not agree with his choices, but I — I don’t think it’s about respect. And honestly, Diane, if you think that my mom is the only thing that could disrupt your happiness, you’re either naive or you’re just as steeped in those old hatreds as you claim she is.

Diane: I’m not naive.

Summer: So, you realize that you could really hurt Jack and Kyle and Harrison with all of this. And they care about you. They trust you. And you’re looking for a scapegoat for when things go wrong.

Diane: Not at all.

Summer: So then why would you just randomly bring up my mom?

Diane: There’s nothing random about it. But you know what? Fair enough. I have survived Phyllis so far, and I will continue to do so. I just hope she puts her energy elsewhere because I have had more than enough of her attention, and, sadly, nothing good ever comes from it.

Nick: So, you think sally is the reason Adam is making so many bad decisions lately.

Victor: Yeah. What do you think he’s doing? He’s doing that ridiculous job at jabot. He’s sleepwalking through his job. He’s failing because of her — sally spectra. The same thing will happen to you.

Nick: How do you know how he’s doing at jabot? You spying on him, dad?

Victor: What the hell do you think?

Nick: What are you planning? You know what? I already know. You hope he fails so he has to come crawling back to Newman yet again.

Victor: I want him here. I want him with his family and with my company.

Nick: You are obsessed with bringing him back to the family. When are you going to get it? It never, ever works. This is getting pathetic.

Victor: This is my company, son. I don’t give a damn who’s CEO or coo. This is my company.

Nick: But now your obsession is spilling over to sally, and i won’t stand for it. She doesn’t deserve this kind of treatment. I’m mad at you, and I’m disappointed in Jill. She doesn’t deserve this kind of interference, especially not right now.

Victor: What do you mean, “especially not right now”?

Nick: She just needs a break, alright? She’s had a rough go of it ever since she was fired from Newman. Now, if I can’t convince you to leave her be for her sake or for mine, then maybe you need to do it for the company.

Victor: What do you mean by that?

Nick: Things are going well here, right?

Victor: Right.

Nick: I love working with mom and Vick. But if you continue down this path and continue to harass sally, given everything, do not force me to choose between her and this company.

Victor: What do you mean by “given everything”? What are you not telling me?

[ Door opens ]

Victoria: Let me guess. This is about Nick and sally.

Chloe: Eavesdrop much?

Adam: I just walked in and i heard my name. So maybe try talking a few decibels softer. So, what’s the Adam possibility?

Sally: Chloe was just talking about the possibility of you luring me up onto another rooftop to win me back. Only in this version, you don’t screw it up by insulting me.

Chloe: And of course you not screwing up is the worst possibility I could ever imagine.

Adam: Well, I’m just glad to be in your thoughts, Chloe. Although I do find it odd that you’re speculating on sally and I reuniting. I mean, what would make you think that’s possible? You made it clear that we’re done. Has something changed for you?

Jack: I should have known this would lead to some complicated emotions for you, that you would see any change in your parents’ relationship as leading to a chaos and eventual loss.

Kyle: I’m not that pessimistic. But I wanted to let you know it’s on my mind.

Jack: Of course it is. You can forgive your mother for leaving you, but you can never forget.

Kyle: I just think this could end badly — for all of us.

Kyle: I had the same feelings when I let Dina back into my life. I now regret the time I could have spent with her when I was trying to anticipate the very worst. I hope you can avoid that particular pitfall.

Kyle: Maybe I will. I’m just not there yet.

Jack: Look, the most important thing for you to know now is that Diane and I are happy. It’s very early, Kyle. Do we want this to lead to more? Do we want it to grow? Yes, but in a happy, healthy way. So, there is nothing dangerous about my relationship with her.

Kyle: But that’s the hard part for me. Of course I want the two of you to be happy. Part of me is thrilled you’re back together, but —

Jack: Kyle, Kyle, don’t worry. Whatever happens, your family will be okay. It is said that I am a hopeless romantic. Okay. I won’t deny that. I am also very pragmatic. I knew when it was time to end my relationship with Phyllis. Look, I think what I have with your mother is very special, but if this does not work out, we will both be fine. We will both be here for you and your family. That will never change.

Summer: I wouldn’t be too concerned about my mom. I find that she only really goes on the attack when someone she loves is threatened. It’s, um — it’s the mama bear phenomenon.

Diane: [ Laughs ] So, is that a warning for me to behave myself or risk the wrath of Phyllis?

Summer: No, not at all. Because, actually, I’ve realized recently that I share a lot of those same mama bear qualities. And Kyle and Harrison are my world. Their happiness means everything to me. So if someone hurts them…

Diane: So, that’s the warning.

Summer: I’m glad we had a chance to talk.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Chloe: Ooh! Is that Nick?

Sally: [ Chuckles ] Yeah. He was just dealing with his dad. He wants to meet.

Chloe: Aww. He’s so sweet.

Adam: Mm.

Sally: Nothing has changed. You know, we both agreed that there is no future for us.

Adam: I seem to recall that conversation. But I also remember the context, where it took place.

Sally: No matter where or when that conversation took place, the point is, is that we both agreed that we don’t belong together.

Adam: And yet you and Chloe are here, talking about us.

Chloe: Well, you know me. I love coming up with doomsday scenarios.

Adam: You two enjoy your lunch, okay?

Summer: Oh, hi.

Phyllis: Ohh, it’s freezing.

Summer: What are you doing here?

Phyllis: Okay, I wanted to tell you I’m going out of town. Um, I just wanted to let you know.

Summer: Okay. Where — where are you going?

Phyllis: Portugal. Yes. I’m going to meet with Heather. [ Sighs ] I’m gonna convince her to take your brother back.

Summer: Mom, that is a monumentally bad idea. That is between Heather and Daniel. You can’t just jet off to Europe and try to fix it.

Phyllis: Well, I can. And that’s what I’m doing.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: My relationship with Heather is very, very good. She respects me.

Summer: Heather? Really? And Daniel is okay with this?

Phyllis: He doesn’t know. I need you to keep it quiet. Listen, I need to do this. I need to fix this for your brother. I’ve got to make this right.

Daniel: There is no one tougher than you. I mean, think of everything that you’ve been through. This is just a bump in the road compared to — I don’t know — fighting cancer.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Well, thank you for the moral support, but I could use some business nuts and bolts right now.

Daniel: I could also contribute support to chancellor’s bottom line once my platform launches to success and acclaim.

Lily: [ Laughs ] That’s true. That’ll be a big revenue stream for us. Can it be ready this afternoon?

Daniel: [ Laughs ] Look, I get it. You need something that’s gonna bring in a lot of money right now. And that would help with your upcoming fight with Devon.

Lily: Yeah.

Daniel: You do currently have divisions that are very profitable. Maybe you should be focusing on those and not this video game platform that’s barely in development. And if you think that it is too much to swing right now for the company, that’s okay.

Lily: Wait. I’m sorry. Are you — are you backing out of our deal?

Daniel: No. I’m letting you off the hook. If you feel like my project is just another burden to you, then get rid of it. Lighten the load.

Chloe: You still have some time to come up with a plan. But you can hide it for a while. You just need to wear some, you know, baggy clothes.

Sally: I don’t like baggy. What about flowing?

Chloe: Sure. Call it whatever you want. But you’re not going to be wearing leather pants. I can tell you that much.

Sally: Okay. Well, the longer I can keep Adam from suspecting, the better.

Chloe: Okay, well, the problem is, is that he is so keenly aware of every little detail. And he is the most suspicious person I’ve ever met.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Nick: Hey. So glad you’re back.

Sally: So glad to be home.

[ Both smooch ]

Sally: I’ve never been healthier.

Victoria: What happened with sally?

Victor: Nothing that wasn’t warranted, you know? Both of your brothers are obviously very attracted to that woman. And as far as I’m concerned, she should get the hell out of town. And the reason she won’t is because she needs to latch onto one of them. You know why? She needs the money.

Victoria: Ah, I see. So you are hoping that she will leave by eliminating her opportunities. And Nicholas caught onto that and he’s dug in his heels. I get it now.

Victor: And then he said that he would choose her over our family, over our company. That’s absolutely preposterous. Why would he do that? I mean, she was a fling. Or is a fling. Nothing more than that. Why would he say something like that? There’s something going on that you and I don’t know about.

Victoria: I’m not her biggest fan, either. But I think we should just forget about sally. We should let Nicholas live his life. He survived Phyllis. He can survive this relationship, too.

Victor: Eh, I’m not so sure.

Victoria: Daddy, please. Everything is running so smoothly at Newman. Please don’t risk driving Nicholas away again.

Victor: [ Breathes deeply ]

Chloe: Well, I’m gonna leave the two of you to catch up.

Sally: Well, I was hoping our return to L.A. Would be cause for celebration.

Nick: Oh, we’re gonna celebrate. Seriously. I will order some sparkling cider and we can go crazy ’cause very soon there is going to be some good news for you.

Sally: I hope so.

Nick: I’m really sorry your meeting with Jill fell through.

Sally: Yeah, I don’t know what happened. It was so abrupt, and it felt personal. I don’t know. I just assumed maybe someone from los Angeles told her some awful story about me.

[ Sighs ] It just sucks because I’ve changed so much since I’ve been here. You know, and I’m sure Jill loves a good redemption story, so — I don’t know — there has to be some way to salvage it.

Nick: Hey, you know, Jill may not be the only person who likes your idea.

Sally: Yeah. Chloe said that.

Nick: If you were willing to work with chancellor-winters, would you consider bringing your pitch to Newman?

Sally: [ Laughs ] Yes, I’m sure Victor and Victoria would love to have me on their payroll again. And even if I could get them to buy the idea, they would make my life a living hell just for the sport of it.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Yeah. You might be right about that.

Sally: Look, I really appreciate the idea, but I am determined to get this company started on my own. Chloe and I really need to make it work. And I’m not gonna be the kind of person that just folds at any kind of setback.

Nick: Well, I think the most important thing is that you don’t worry about it, alright? I don’t want you to get stressed. It’s not good for you. And you know what I’m talking about.

Sally: Yeah. I do.

Lily: No, no, no, no. You are not getting away that easy. I want omega sphere, okay? This is the perfect opportunity. And we are the perfect home for it. We’re gonna do amazing things together. You said you would give me a week, right? So give me a week. I’m gonna get Jill on board, okay? I can do it. I just need you to trust me. Can you trust me?

Daniel: I can. I do, more than just about anyone else.

Lily: Thank you. I… I needed to hear that more than I even knew.

Summer: I’m sure that Heather does respect you, but that doesn’t mean that you can persuade her to take Daniel back.

Phyllis: Oh. I can. Listen, I’ve spent a lot of time with Heather and Lucy on my trips to savannah. I could talk to her, you know, woman to woman and let her know how far Daniel’s come.

Summer: Mom, you’re not exactly objective when it comes to Daniel.

Phyllis: Don’t you think your brother’s a good man?

Summer: Yeah, well, I’m not objective, either. He’s my brother. I’ve always thought he was a good man.

Phyllis: Exactly! He’s an incredible man. Incredible. I need to convince Heather that he just hit a rough patch. That’s it.

Summer: Mom, Daniel is not gonna be happy about this.

Phyllis: Well, I mean, you’re not gonna tell him. He’s not gonna know.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: And trust me — he’ll be plenty happy when Heather decides to take him back and give their relationship another try. Listen, I need you to do a couple things for me. First of all, if he or anybody else asks, I’m in Florida for a couple days, okay? And most importantly, do not let Daniel sell any part of his project to Tucker McCall while I’m gone.

Summer: How am I supposed to do that?

Phyllis: I don’t know. Just figure it out. If you see them together, separate them. Do what you got to do.

Summer: You know what, mom? You are so much better at that sort of thing. So why don’t you just — why don’t you stay here and you can keep Daniel and Tucker apart?

Phyllis: Ha ha. Nice try. Please do this.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Listen, I’m doing this for your brother. I’d do the same thing for you.

Summer: That worries me.

Phyllis: You are an amazing woman. I love you so much. I believe in you. And the reason we butt heads is because we’re so much alike.

Summer: [ Inhales deeply ] I love you, too, mom.

Phyllis: I love you! Thank you! Ohh. Trust me. And wish me luck. Wish me luck.

Victoria: You know, I think we should just forget about whatever’s going on with Nicholas and sally and Adam. Just forget about it and let’s focus on work right now.

Victor: Yeah. Do you have news?

Victoria: I do. After you shared what you learned, I had our people digging deeper into Tucker McCall’s finances.

Victor: And?

Victoria: His lender is growing very impatient. He’s late on some of his payments. Sometimes he doesn’t make them at all.

Victor: Hmm. A debt problem. Well… I like the sound of that.

Victoria: We buy up his debt. We own him.

Victor: You think like your father. I love that.

Daniel: [ Sighs ]

Tucker: Ah! Just the man I was looking for. I want to buy you a drink, and i want to explain to you in more detail why McCall unlimited is where you ought to be.

Jack: What a nice surprise.

Diane: Good. Hi.

Jack: Hi. Let me take your coat.

Diane: Oh, thank you. I just had an unsettling conversation with our daughter-in-law.

Jack: Oh? What’s on her mind?

Diane: Well, she clearly feels that this relationship is bound to fail and bring her family down with it.

Jack: I had a similar conversation with Kyle. Turns out you were right, what you said before, that he is not pleased that we are getting back together. You know what? I should have anticipated his concerns. They were legitimate.

Diane: Well, what are they?

Jack: Kyle thinks that if anything happens between the two of us, if things go wrong… that you’ll leave town.

Diane: What?

Jack: I guess a fear of abandonment is a hard thing to walk away from when you’ve lived with it for so long.

Diane: Oh, poor Kyle. Jack, are we selfish to be pursuing this? I mean, should we slow things down, maybe not rush things?

Jack: We are not rushing anything. We have known each other for decades.

Diane: [ Laughs ]

Jack: I think we will agree we have taken our time getting reacquainted. And we’re battle-tested. We have been through more — you and I — in the last couple of months than most couples ever go through.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Jack: And what’s most important — we both want this.

Diane: Mm. You’re right. But we have to agree that, whatever happens, we will be there for Kyle.

Jack: Of course we will. Right now, I just want to be here for you.

Diane: [ Laughs ] Well, good, ’cause here is the only place that I want to be.

Jack: Yeah?

Diane: Mmm.

Sally: I — I have to take this, but if the server comes, can you order two of everything on the menu for me?

Adam: [ Clears throat ] Nicholas.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Adam. Hey, I don’t know if you’re aware of this or not, but I feel like I should give you a heads-up. Dad thinks he can lure you back to Newman.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] To the company or the family?

Nick: Both, actually.

Adam: Mm. Yeah. I, um, heard rumblings to that effect. I’m sure Victor has already got a plan in the works.

Nick: Oh, he definitely does.

Adam: Mm. Well, did you want to share that with me?

Nick: I think he’s gonna try and sabotage your position at jabot so Jack kicks you to the curb and then Dad will be there to welcome you with open arms.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Oh, yeah. I had a feeling he was gonna do something like that. But my question right now is, why do you care, Nick? Why would you tell me any of this?

Nick: I think you’re better off with Jack as a mentor than our father.

Adam: That’s your only motive in sharing this valuable information with me? You’re just looking out for my well-being?

Nick: I’m just trying to help, Adam.

Adam: And you really don’t want to see me back at Newman, though, right?

Nick: No, I don’t.

Adam: [ Laughs ] Oh, you really do have it all, don’t you?

Nikki: I won’t try to talk you out of whatever you’re planning to persuade adam to rejoin the family. He’s your son, you love him, and that’s all there is to it.

Victor: Good. I’m glad you see it that way.

Nikki: However, I would like you to consider a few things.

Victor: I’m listening.

Nikki: Right now, everything is peaceful, for the most part.

Victor: Right.

Nikki: Nicholas and victoria are in a good place again. The company is running well. It is thriving. Now, you put adam into that mix, and that lovely equilibrium will go right out the window.

Victor: Well, not necessarily.

Nikki: Especially if he doesn’t come back for the reason that nicholas did. Nicholas felt it was the right thing to do. He wanted to be in a position to support his family, not because you were pulling strings behind the scenes.

Victor: My darling, I appreciate your thoughts.

Nikki: Yes, but you’re going to ignore them, anyway.

Victor: No, no, no, I didn’t say that. It’s always important to me to hear what you have to say. Okay? You know that.

Nikki: Well, I’m not going to tell you how to handle this. I just want to reiterate that I don’t see this scenario ending the way you do. What if adam likes his life the way it is? What about when he finds out that you are manipulating his downfall? He may never have anything to do with you again.

Victor: My baby, I hear what you’re saying, but I want to assure you that… I know my son, and I have the situation well in hand.

Kyle: I’m compiling information before the jabot board meets in february. Would you have some time this afternoon to pull some things together for me? Excellent. Please bring me the most recent status reports for all the accounts adam newman has been overseeing. Yes. All of them.

Victoria: So, uh, now that it’s just the two of us again, is there anything that you want to tell me?

Nick: You’re just not gonna let it go, are you?

Victoria: I just felt like there was something that maybe you wanted to share before tucker interrupted us.

Nick: You mean before you invited him over here to toy with him and mess with his mind?

Victoria: Well, I have to admit, it was fun turning the tables on him and watching him squirm for a change.

Nick: I highly doubt tucker is used to being the entertainment for his competitors.

Victoria: Mm-hmm. I’m sure that he’s not. You’re trying very hard to change the subject, which makes me more determined to find out what’s wrong with you. And don’t say nothing because I know better. So whatever it is, spill. I won’t say a word to anyone. I promise.

Nick: I already told you. It’S…dad.

Victoria: I know. You said it was business. And I’m not buying that. So what’s the real story?

Nick: Alright. I’m sick and tired of the way he keeps tearing down sally and pressuring me to end our relationship. Uh… you know, it’s, uh… he just dismisses it, and I’m tired of it, you know? And I just want to know when it’s gonna end.

Victoria: Is that a serious question? Come on. Dad is always going to feel the need to control our lives. Not that I condone it, of course. Look, to be honest with you, I don’t really see a future for you and sally. You are — you’re just too good for her, nicholas.

Nick: Vick —

Victoria: You’re so far out of her league, it isn’t even funny.

Nick: I don’t need this from you, either, okay?

Victoria: Why do I get the feeling that there’s something else you’re not telling me?

Lauren: My head is still in the clouds after last night. I mean, I can’t believe fen flew in to watch me accept my award.

Michael: I know what you mean. And finally meeting trey.

Lauren: Wasn’t he the sweetest?

Michael: They make a great couple.

Lauren: It’s so touching watching them in love and… even more amazing that our son is happy and healthy and excited for the future.

Michael: Yeah, their happiness is infectious.

Lauren: It is. Oh, there’s phyllis.

Audra: Yes.

Phyllis: Yeah. So I decided to be proactive and, um, shop the project around to see if I can get financial backing from another company, and, um, you know, just in case things at chancellor-winters imploded.

Lauren: Wait. What? Without consulting daniel?

Michael: Why would you meddle with that?

Phyllis: Well, I wasn’t meddling. It was just an exploratory conversation.

Lauren: And you don’t think that’s overstepping just a wee bit?

Phyllis: Well, no, because daniel gave me the authority. I’m his right-hand man.

Michael: On the technical and staffing side so he could keep his eye on the big picture…

Phyllis: Okay.

Michael: …Like deciding which company to choose to ally himself with.

Phyllis: Well, I just wanted to be proactive. I knew how important this project is to my son, but it has him doubting me again, so, i mean, I don’t know what to do. I can’t win. I mean, do I try too hard? I don’t get it.

Michael: Ohh, phyllis, i think there’s a common denominator with these problems with the children. Diane. Your intractable hostility towards her. It cost you your job at marchetti, and from what you’ve already told us, it’s creating friction between you and daniel.

Phyllis: Um, okay, diane has nothing to do with this issue right now with me and daniel. And I don’t want to get lectured about diane. Please.

Lauren: Too bad.

Victor: Just to calm your mind, I’ve taken into consideration how adam’s return would affect both victoria and nicholas. That’s why I want to find something for adam that he can run independent of them. That way, we all win.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] I hate to see you make an enemy of jack again, not to mention tucker. And then you’ll be let down when adam rejects you again.

Victor: You make that sound as if it is inevitable.

Nikki: I believe that it is.

Victor: No, it isn’T. I don’t think so. Adam will come to his senses. It’ll all work out as I have planned.

Nikki: Well, I hope it does, for your sake.

Victor: Now, there’s another issue we need to discuss, involving the break-in into our home in chicago.

Nikki: Yeah. What about it?

Victor: Jack and diane jenkins were behind that, weren’t they? They stole your jewelry in order to set up that stark fellow. When were you gonna tell me?

Nikki: I was so upset when i realized what they had done. I was this close to telling chance that jack was the real culprit.

Victor: Then why the hell didn’t you?

Nikki: Ohh, there doesn’t seem to be anything to be done now. I mean, jack and diane were very careful not to implicate themselves. I’ll get my necklace back soon. And, frankly, I’m relieved that jeremy stark is off the streets.

Victor: That bastard belongs back in prison.

Nikki: I wish phyllis had never reached out to him. She’s the reason why he was here in town, putting us all in danger. But given the circumstances, I’m willing to look the other way.

Victor: I’ve got to tell you, I’m furious with jack abbott breaking into our home there. He took a huge risk.

Nikki: Yeah. For diane. Makes me sick.

Victor: Baby, put that woman out of your mind! She’s jack’s problem. They deserve each other.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Look, I could use some back-up here, alright? You may not see a future for me and sally, but that’s up to me, alright? I’m gonna decide where it goes from here and what it looks like.

Victoria: Okay. I hear your frustration.

Nick: I’m just tired of feeling like I have to defend sally — or why it’s even an issue. She’s done nothing to deserve the constant attacks or dad’s never-ending insistence that i end things with her. Vick, I’m asking you, if you have any negative thoughts about it, just keep them to yourself and accept that sally is a part of my life, alright?

[ Cellphone ringing ] Oh, it’s sally. She and chloe went to meet with jill to pitch her a business idea. I have to take this. Hey. I was hoping you’d call. How’d the big presentation go? Jill did what?

Tessa: Okay, so…

Mariah: Yeah.

Tessa: That’s the head, right, that’s facing us?

Mariah: Elena!

Tessa: Hi.

Mariah: Hi! Okay. You have to come see this.

Elena: What’s up?

Tessa: It’s from delphine, the woman whose child we’re gonna adopt.

Elena: Ah.

Mariah: They’re both healthy and doing fantastic, but she just came from her latest check-up with her ob and… ta-da!

[ Sighing ] Uh… it’s about nate and his new job, specifically this new woman he hired as his coo. I don’t trust her.

Audra: I assure you I work for you and you alone because you have the drive and instincts of a winner. I want to share in the success newman media is gonna become under your leadership, which is why I responded to tucker’s request to go meet with him. I was curious to see what his next move will be so I can keep you informed.

Nate: And?

Audra: Well, tucker’s original goal — okay? — His big master plan, was to gain control of jabot and put ashley at the helm and then do the same thing with chancellor-winters, putting devon in charge, so he can work side by side with the two people he claims to love the most in the world.

Nate: Ambitious.

Audra: Yeah, a little too ambitious. His plan went down in flames. But I know tucker’s mind, okay? He’s the kind of man who needs a target, and now he’s doubly motivated after this big failure.

Nate: I assume tucker wants to use you to feed him information about newman, the way he did chancellor-winters, to find some vulnerability?

Audra: I thought that at first, too, but, I mean, he seemed more curious about our interest in daniel romalotti’s omega sphere project — because, of course, he’s interested, too.

Nate: Mm. Well, props to daniel for creating what’s suddenly the hottest new business venture in town.

Audra: Yeah.

Nate: The good news is… I’ve got a secret weapon.

Audra: Which is?

Nate: You.

Audra: Hmm.

Nate: You’ve worked closely with tucker long enough to have gotten adept at predicting which direction he’ll take.

Audra: Allowing us to stay a step ahead of the competition.

Nate: I like the sound of that.

Audra: And I like seeing you like this — hungry, loving the game.

Nate: You know, I never got a chance to experience this at chancellor-winters because devon held me back. But now that I’m the boss, I see why people like victor and victoria find the — the power intoxicating.

Audra: It looks good on you.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: Unreal.

Victoria: What? What happened?

Nick: Sally and chloe flew to los angeles at jill’s request to pitch her their new idea of their interior design business. They’ve been working for weeks — seriously, day and night — so they could dazzle jill. And then out of nowhere, she just cancels.

Victoria: Hmm. Did she offer any explanation?

Nick: Nah, she just said that she was having second thoughts and she wasn’t sure their concept would be a good fit with chancellor-winters. When sally asked her what changed — because she was so enthusiastic the day before — jill wouldn’t elaborate.

Victoria: Maybe she thought that it didn’t make sense right now, given all the turmoil that the company is going through.

Nick: Then why didn’t she just say that?

Victoria: I don’t know. There could have been any number of reasons for the change that jill didn’t feel the need to share.

Nick: No. Something’s not right about jill so abruptly pulling the plug. And I intend to get to the bottom of it. I’m feeling better.

Kyle: Huh. Well, adam, I definitely see a pattern here.

Summer: Kyle?

Kyle: Hey! How was, uh, your lunch with the new head of accounting?

Summer: It went well. I think she’s gonna be a really good fit. What were you looking at?

Kyle: Uh, just some corporate reports I requested. Bunch of boring numbers.

Summer: Really? You looked pretty engrossed.

Kyle: Well, that’s why I’m the suit and you’re the creative genius.

[ Elevator doors opening ]

Daniel: Hey. Uh, sorry to interrupt, guys. Summer, if you’ve got a minute, um, to talk, there’s something i could really use your help with.

Summer: Uh…

Kyle: It’s fine. Go ahead. I was just gonna drop these off in my dad’s office.

Daniel: Want to go?

Summer: Yeah. Yeah.

Lauren: How many times have we talked about how your hatred for diane is going to eat you up alive?

Michael: It’s so not worth the trouble.

Lauren: And worse yet, it’s affecting the relationships with both of your kids.

Phyllis: Mnh, no. The situation with daniel has nothing to do with diane. It’s about me being clear-eyed about the situation. Listen, I don’t want all of my son’s hard work being destroyed by some vague promises from lily.

Lauren: I thought you said they had a signed contract. I mean, that’s not exactly vague.

Michael: The last time you clashed with him, daniel told you that he was worried he’d made a mistake hiring you because of your animosity towards diane, remember? It was — it was — it was consuming you so much, it was interfering with your ability to do your work.

Phyllis: No, that conversation was based on me just being distracted. But I was still doing my work.

Lauren: In your opinion. It seems like daniel has disagreed with that.

Phyllis: Okay, well, there’s very little I could do anyway because the project hasn’t been greenlit, alright? So I just shopped it around to see if I could get some interest, and I did.

Lauren: Yeah, but it doesn’t matter if daniel doesn’t want to work with that company.

Phyllis: Well, lauren, it’s not like I closed the deal. It’s up to him if he wants to work with them or not. And that’s what I told him. But he didn’t listen to me.

Michael: Well, these things tend to be cumulative. You know, any previous conflict could have intensified your son’s reaction to you today.

Phyllis: Guys, he’s upset at me because of his own conflicts. Trust me.

Daniel: [ Sighs ] Thanks for taking this walk with me. After my blow-out with mom, i just really needed to get some air. What is with her lately, huh? God knows she’s never been easy to deal with, but, I mean, this seems like next level. Hey. You alright? You seemed a little off at the office. Did you and kyle have a disagreement?

Summer: Um…not exactly. It’s — it’s nothing kyle said or did. It’s this feeling that I got, like — like he’s hiding something from me. I just… I really hope I’m wrong.

Victor: Hello, kyle.

Kyle: Hello.

Victor: Please close the door. So…what have you got for me?

Kyle: I’ve been going over all the accounts adams’s been handling at jabot, all the duties my dad’s assigned to him, every decision he’s made since he took the job. Then I spoke with the various department heads of jabot who report to him.

Victor: And?

Kyle: I found something interesting, something I think you can use to get adam out of the company.

Elena: Yeah. How’d you know?

[ Laughs ] So I’m not really sure that that’s particularly damning?

Mariah: Well, you are very logical and understanding and willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, which, on one hand, makes it very, very hard to gossip with you, but on the other hand, it means that if you’re getting a bad vibe from somebody, there’s probably something to it.

Tessa: Well, when you say that you don’t trust her, is it because you think that she has designs on nate?

Elena: I think she’s exerting an influence on nate. No, not romantically. I can imagine him cheating on me with her.

Mariah: Yeah, I would certainly hope not. After everything he had to do to get you back? No, he should feel that he’s lucky to be with you and even to have another chance at all.

Elena: Yeah. No, I think the thing that’s bothering me is that she seems to be stoking nate’s ambitions, which I think she started when they were first working at chancellor-winters.

Tessa: How do you mean?

Elena: Well, I mean, nate’s always been driven. That’s what made him such a brilliant surgeon. But ever since he joined the corporate world, that drive for success has suddenly warped into this lust for power. And he’s done some things he’s not proud of. So he made the decision to get back to who he is at his core and to focus on behaving ethically as much as being a success.

Mariah: And your fear is that his new coo is going to bring him back to the dark side.

Victoria: Hi. You wanted to talk?

Nate: Uh, yes. I’ve been pursuing something. It’s in the early stages, but i thought I should fill you in.

Victoria: Shoot.

Nate: Daniel romalotti has designed a video game that chancellor-winters has been developing.

Victoria: Ah. Well, I’m afraid that’s an industry that I’m not particularly well versed in.

Nate: Suffice it to say, chancellor-winters intended to use his concept to launch an entire gaming platform called omega sphere.

Victoria: Ooh. Well, that sounds impressive. But, uh, you used past tense. “Chancellor winters intended to use it.”

Nate: I’ve heard rumblings of more internal problems over there.

Victoria: Really?

Nate: Nothing too specific at this point, just some hints of instability. But I see potential for great opportunity.

Victoria: Look, I appreciate your instinct, but are you sure that you want to provoke your family, trying to steal this project away from them? You’ve already been through so much with them.

Nate: It’s business, not personal. If I may quote from the master.

Victoria: Point taken. But you know I had to ask.

Nate: Look, I’m not talking about an end run here, nothing to get their lawyers riled up. I just happened to get a glimpse at how serious their problems are after phyllis asked me for a meeting.

Victoria: Phyllis?

Nate: She’s daniel’s technical director.

Victoria: Ah.

Nate: She wanted to gauge our interest, should they lose their corporate backing. We had an intriguing discussion. Lily found out about it afterwards and wasn’t too happy.

Victoria: I can imagine.

Nate: She got all territorial on me, made it clear that she and daniel had a deal in writing. But if that falls through, i want to be the first one to grab this and run with it. It would be a great fit at newman media. It has potential for massive growth. Now, if you want me to fill you in on the details —

Victoria: Oh, no, there’s — there’s no need for that. Actually, just put something in a memo. I trust your instincts. And if the opportunity arises to acquire, um…

Nate: Omega sphere.

Victoria: Right. You have my full support.

Nate: Good. Just so you know, there is one wrinkle.

Phyllis: Listen, I’m gonna tell you something. Uh, please keep it to yourself. Things haven’t been going that well for daniel. Uh, his art career stalled in georgia. The commissions weren’t coming in, you know? Therefore, money wasn’t coming in. Uh, the business just fell apart. It just wasn’t happening anymore.

Lauren: That must have been so rough on him.

Phyllis: Yeah. Yeah. I didn’t even know about it. But he said, um, he took out his frustrations on heather and he felt like he wasn’t holding up his end of the marriage, right? And things got more tense. I guess they were arguing a lot. And so heather decided to take lucy and leave…

Lauren: I don’t like where this is going.

Michael: Neither do I.

Phyllis: No, no, no, no, no. Just — just hear me out. Hear me out. So, if I go to heather and i convince her that she should give daniel another chance, i really do believe I can help him out of this situa– I don’t believe — how come I didn’t think of this before?

Lauren: Are you even listening to yourself? The whole reason that daniel lost it on you is because you didn’t honor his boundaries. I mean, in fact, you went crashing straight through them. You disrespected him, you decided that you knew best, and you over-functioned.

Michael: [ Chuckles ] Good on you. Fancy word for “meddling.”

Lauren: Yeah, you took everything into your own hands. You pitched his business to another company without informing him. You cut him out of the whole process. He had literally no say on his own project. Of course he’s gonna be royally pissed off at you and lash out. Honestly, I would, too.

Michael: And now you’re talking about doing it in his personal life.

Phyllis: I don’t consider me going to heather and telling her how great daniel is doing right now and how he’s changed his life around would be considered meddling.

Michael: [ Sighs ]

Lauren: [ Sighs ] You know, you have a beautiful heart. And I completely understand why you’d want to do this.

Michael: [ Chuckling ] I don’t because it is gonna backfire spectacularly.

Lauren: So I think that you should call heather once. And if she does not pick up and she doesn’t respond to your voicemail, please, please walk away from this.

Summer: Basically, my grandpa wants to drag kyle into this scheme to mess with adam’s life.

Daniel: Mm. For his own good, of course.

Summer: Exactly! That’s how he sees it, only it’s really not funny. But my grandpa has convinced himself that he can screw up what adam has going at jabot, have some epic opportunity lined up for him at newman, and then adam will just come running back into the family’s open arms.

Daniel: [ Sighs ] Yeah, I would say it’s unbelievable, but look at our mom living in her own alternative reality.

Summer: They never learn.

Daniel: [ Laughs ]

Summer: Grandpa doesn’t realize that this isn’t gonna work out, just like every other time he’s tried to manipulate adam. But he’s just gonna do what he wants to do. And kyle — kyle hates that adam is working at jabot.

Daniel: Well, what’d kyle say?

Summer: He was considering it at first and then I laid out all the ways that it could go wrong and he claimed that he wanted no part of it.

Daniel: Hmm.

Kyle: Without sharing too much company information, here are my notes on adam’s performance. Based on what I’ve seen of his output so far and the feedback from jabot’s management team, the effort he’s putting forth is mediocre at best. He started strong and then quickly slid, and now he’s treading water more than anything. Nothing egregious, but hardly the caliber of work I would expect from a guy at his level.

Victor: Well, kyle… thank you for the information. Now let’s see how we can take advantage of that. (Vo) yoplait has something for everything you do.

Summer: Kyle told me that he wasn’t gonna take part in my grandpa’s scheme, and I — i know he hates the idea getting swept up into newman family drama. I mean, he’s got enough of that already with his mother and ours.

Daniel: Mm. Yeah. Mom has been a little out of control lately. She went behind my back. She — she started making decisions about my project without telling me. And then she says, oh, you know, it’s to protect my interests. I finally lost it with her.

Summer: What took you so long?

Daniel: [ Chuckles ] I don’t know. I had to tell her. You know, I was like, “we are not partners. You are my employee. You work for me.” Then I, uh — then I might have mentioned that I was wondering if it had ever been a good idea to hire her in the first place.

Summer: I mean, I don’t blame you. It’s not fair for her to put you in that position.

Daniel: She did the same thing to you.

Summer: I know, and I hate that I had to let her go. I mean, she was doing great work at marchetti, but she just would not let up. And kyle and I couldn’t take it anymore. Her feud with diane — it was just too big of a distraction.

Daniel: [ Chuckles ] Tell me about it.

Summer: I know that firing her was the right move, but — i got to be honest — I am a little worried at how rattled she’s been since diane came back to town.

Daniel: Well, I’m just hoping this most recent confrontation makes her take a good, long, hard look at her recent behavior, and, you know, maybe she’ll rein it in. I didn’t say I was holding my breath.

[ Breathes deeply ]

Phyllis: Guys, um, i appreciate the feedback. You know I do. I am under no illusion that a simple phone call can take away all the pain that daniel and his family have been through — okay? — And fix everything. I got it.

Lauren: Alright. Good. I’m glad you realize that.

Michael: Okay. Okay. What aren’t you telling us? Because I know that look. There’s more to this.

Lauren: Is michael right?

Michael: I think I know. You’re not just making a phone call.

Phyllis: No. This is a conversation that needs to be in person. I am going to portugal, and I’m going to talk to heather and lucy face-to-face.

Mariah: Not that you’re asking for my advice.

Elena: No, please. I would love to hear your take on this.

Mariah: I think that you should be discussing this with nate, openly and honestly, you know, like good partners do.

Elena: Which is how we got out of the rough patch that we just went through, when things were so contentious with devon and lily.

[ Sighs ] It took a lot of energy, but nate and I are finally on the right track. And I trusted that the changes he talked about making would be real and lasting.

Tessa: But now you’re having some doubts because of this woman who’s a bad influence.

Elena: Pretty much. So now I am reluctant to share my fears with nate again.

Mariah: Well, you shouldn’t be, not if the issues are still there.

Elena: [ Sighs ] What worries me about audra is i can tell that she thinks business is all about winning. And that was the mind-set that nate had when he was working with chancellor-winters. When he got this new job, I was really hoping that it would be a fresh start. He didn’t have to deal with the conflict of working with his family any more. But I’m starting to see that his drive for power — I don’t think it ever really went away. And given the chance, I think it’s only gonna get worse.

Victoria: A wrinkle, huh? Well, I guess they make life interesting.

Nate: Turns out there’s someone else in the mix. Tucker. He’s snooping around omega sphere, too. Not that I can’t outmaneuver him.

Victoria: Well, I appreciate your confidence, but —

Nate: In fact, I’ve already devised a strategy.

Victoria: Well, that’s what I like to hear. But you don’t need to worry about tucker mccall. I’m gonna take care of him myself very soon.

Nick: Dad, I know you don’t like sally, and I know you like that I’m with her even less. But does that give you a right to intervene?

Victor: Explain yourself, son.

Nick: Sally had a huge opportunity with chancellor-winters to pitch her new idea, but when she and chloe got to L.A., Jill wouldn’t even take the meeting.

Victor: Stuff happens, you know?

Nick: Did you speak with jill and convince her to rip this away from sally? Yes or no?

Victoria: Thanks, all, for coming. I wanted to meet because I have some deep concerns about Tucker McCall. I know that we have all speculated about his real reason for returning to Genoa City ever since he landed on the Abbott lawn. His interactions around town were intended to make us believe that he wanted to reunite with Ashley and Devon and to exploit the Chancellor-Winters IPO.

Nick: Well, in all fairness, we wanted to do the same thing.

Victoria: Yes, true, but since then, he has completely failed both at his personal and his professional goals.

Nikki: Well, he lost any hope of a reunion with Ashley the minute she boarded that plane for Paris.

Nick: Judging from what I’ve heard from Abby, Devon found out what Tucker was up to and no longer wants anything to do with him. So, he struck out on all three fronts. You’re probably wondering why is he still in town and what his next move is.

Victoria: Yes. I had a conversation with him where he implied that he was looking for another target, which means that we all have to be vigilant about his movements, at least while he’s here.

Victor: Well, now I’ve acquired some information about that man which may throw some light on his motives.

[ Knocking on door ]

Chelsea: Hey.

Billy: Hi. Um, I was just in the neighborhood, thought I’d come by and say hi and, you know, maybe spitball some ideas about the podcast.

Chelsea: Not sure that’s a good idea.

Billy: Okay. Um, if you’re busy, I can — I can come back later.

Chelsea: Actually, I’m thinking the entire podcast might not be a good idea.

Audra: What a waste of time. Okay, why was Phyllis pitching us if she didn’t even have a right to approach us with her son’s project?

Nate: You know, I actually admire her brazenness. And I’m intrigued by Daniel’s gaming platform. If it’s on unsteady ground at Chancellor-Winters, there may be something to pursue.

Audra: I can’t see how. Having been privy to Chancellor-Winters’ legal contracts, I can tell you those things are ironclad. Yeah, I don’t think Daniel can get out of his unless the company decides to release him. You know, and if Lily’s reaction to Phyllis shopping around his idea was any indication, I don’t think that’s gonna happen, which means we’d be wasting time, energy, resources by going after it.

Nate: Mm. Exactly how much access did you have to Chancellor-Winters’ legal contracts, when it comes to projects like Daniel’s?

Daniel: Why would you take it upon yourself to go to Nate to pitch my project to him when I explicitly told you that I wasn’t ready to give up on the deal with Lily and Chancellor-Winters?

Phyllis: Okay, well, you said that that company was putting your project on hold.

Daniel: When I told you that things were shaky over there, I thought I was confiding in my mother and not some opportunist who was gonna go and shop my idea behind my back.

Phyllis: “Opportunist”? Seriously? That’s how you see me? Listen, I just went to Newman Media ’cause, you know, I was doing it as an exploratory thing, you know, to sort of whet their appetite. And I think I did. We need to have alternatives if this thing crashes in. I mean, we need to have a backup plan.

Daniel: Okay, you need to stop talking like this is ours. This is my platform, mine alone. And I’m not gonna trust virtual strangers with my dream project. [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: All right, listen, Daniel, the Newmans are hardly strangers. Nick was your stepfather.

Daniel: Well, nonetheless, I’m wary of getting involved with any Newman-run company. I mean, I got to tell you, the worst part about this is you shared privileged information. I mean, I poured my heart out to you and Dad. I told you how much this project means to me, why I need this so bad, and not just on a professional level. I mean, I can’t just ignore the fact that you have compromised my intellectual property. Now any person or any company that you spoke with about it — they can take my ideas and they can run with them before I ever get Omege Sphere off the ground.

Phyllis: Okay. Okay. I’m sorry. I — I — listen, I only spoke to Nate and — and his COO because, uh, it seems like Chancellor-Winters is shelving this project indefinitely. And I know what that does to you. Listen, I want to see your vision come to fruition. And I didn’t say anything risky to Nate. I didn’t say anything risky. Really. I didn’t even talk to the rest of the Newmans about it.

Daniel: What about Tucker McCall?

Phyllis: What about Tucker McCall? I mean, Tucker just overheard me leaving a message for Nate. Honestly, Tucker — I wouldn’t give him a sip of water if he was in the middle of a desert.

Daniel: Hmm. Okay. So, you only shared information with the man who sold out his cousins to give Newman the opportunity to acquire a majority holding of Chancellor-Winters. That’s great. No, I just never thought that you would go and do this with Nate without asking me first. I — I don’t know. That’s my mistake for thinking the best of you.

Phyllis: What? You don’t mean that. Daniel. Okay, I’m sorry. Oh, my gosh. I overreacted. Give me a break. I care about this project for you. I just want the best for you. That’s all.

Daniel: Fair enough. But if my platform ever needs a new home, which it doesn’t yet, it’s my call who we go with, okay? My call. And if I’m being honest with you, right now, if I had to choose, Tucker looks like the better option instead of Newman Media.

Billy: So, what made you think that the podcast might not be a good idea?

Chelsea: [ Sighs ] I had my therapy session with Dr. Malone. I told her my idea, and she thinks it’s too soon to venture into something so personal and intimate.

Billy: Mm.

Chelsea: Reliving the trauma of my suicide attempt before I’ve finished processing it could be a potential minefield for me.

Billy: Well, I’m sure that was disappointing, but I — I understand what she’s saying.

Chelsea: Well, I was disappointed…until I talked it through with Dr. Malone. She said that it’s actually a really good thing that I wanted to do the podcast. It means I’m focused on my recovery and I am trying to pay it forward and I’m focusing on the future, which is something I couldn’t say a few months ago. So… all of this is about my recovery, right? So [Sighs] How can I be disappointed?

Billy: Hmm.

Victor: Well, now, I asked Michael Baldwin to look into Tucker McCall’s claim that he was a reformed man when he landed in Genoa City.

Victoria: What did he find out?

Victor: Apparently, McCall’s lavish lifestyle — spending money left and right — has put his company under a mountain of debt.

Nikki: How is that possible? The last we knew, he was selling off parts of his company in order to secure capital to buy out Chancellor-Winters’ stock. I mean, you would think he would have some liquid assets available.

Victor: That’s what we all assumed, but then he took out a number of short-term loans. That’s how short he was of his agenda.

Nick: Could just be a desperation move to stabilize his empire.

Victor: But those debts are coming due. So I think what he’s doing — he’s looking for a lucrative company to keep him afloat.

Audra: I told you I didn’t know the details of Daniel’s deal. My insider info was limited to things pertaining directly to the IPO, nothing connected with development or creative planning.

Nate: You never heard anything around the office?

Audra: Uh, I knew Lily and Devon were discussing building an entire gaming division around the idea Daniel was developing. I was also aware that they were preparing a press release towards the end of my tenure with them. Since it never came out, I’m assuming they hit a standstill.

Nate: Hmm. Interesting.

Audra: Why are you asking me all this? Are you thinking of poaching Daniel from Chancellor-Winters? Or stealing his idea?

Nate: No. No, I’m just curious. I would definitely like to know what’s going on at Chancellor-Winters that would make this project so precarious. I’m sure it has something to do with Devon. His inability to collaborate or take chances is probably bringing the entire company to its knees.

Audra: Why do you still care so much about your family’s company? If I remember correctly, you were quite adamant about putting your time there behind you.

Nate: You’re right. Old habits die hard, I guess. You know, it’s too bad you burned your bridge with them, too. It would have been nice to have some inside information.

Audra: We both burned our bridges at Chancellor-Winters. If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t be here.

Nate: You’re right. So I’m glad you did.

Audra: Even if I disagree with you about going after the gaming platform?

Nate: Look, let’s get something straight. I appreciate your input. I’m not afraid of being challenged. I like to hear different points of view so I can make an informed decision.

Audra: And I’m willing to support you 100% if you feel strongly about something, even if our opinions differ. But let me ask you this. If you’re not ready to let go of the idea and if we have no insider information to help us sign Daniel, how would you go about pursuing him?

Nate: I say we sit the guy down and sell him on Newman Media, show him why we’re a better, much more stable, fit for his venture.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Audra: [ Sighs ]

Nate: Everything okay?

Audra: Yeah. Uh, can we finish this discussion in a little bit? I have to go take care of something.

[ Door opens ]

Billy: Well, that is a great attitude to have, positive and accepting of Dr. Malone’s advice. I remember a time when if someone said no to your idea, you’d fall down the rabbit hole.

Chelsea: Exactly. And that wasn’t that long ago.

Billy: Well, look at how far you’ve come. That’s a good thing.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Chelsea: I heard what she had to say, and it’s just not the right time for a podcast.

Billy: You know, uh, I got to say, when you first told me the idea about the podcast, I did share some of Dr. Malone’s concerns. But this is your recovery, this is your process, and I just want to be supportive.

Chelsea: And you have been. You’re more in tune with what’s good or bad for me than you realize. And I want you to know, I really appreciate hearing your honest, unfiltered thoughts. I know I have to run everything by Dr. Malone, but I — I feel like I’m ready to start opening myself up again to feedback, even if it’s negative. So, receiving it from somebody that I know cares about me — that could definitely cushion the blow.

Billy: Well, I appreciate your vote of confidence, although I’m not sure you should be taking my advice. I have screwed up plenty of times, and I’m still playing it by ear.

Chelsea: Aren’t we all?

Phyllis: Daniel, Tucker McCall is not a good guy. He is a snake.

Daniel: Well, at least he’s true to form. And he’s a smart and intuitive businessman. And he made a lot of salient points. He understood that there could be a crossover between our business and our personal lives. Look, I got to tell you, without me even saying anything, he already knew that Lucy and Heather leaving me was a big part of why I created this whole gaming experience and a way for me to heal.

Phyllis: Oh, a way for you to heal. Really? Oh, my goodness. He’s manipulating you. He’s very good at reading people. He’s very good at reading people and then manipulating them to do what he wants.

Daniel: Or another way of looking at it is that he showed some insight. And McCall Unlimited — they have all the resources and infrastructure we need to hit the ground running.

Phyllis: Okay, well, a lot of companies would.

Daniel: Yeah, a lot of companies do, but with McCall, I’d be dealing directly with Tucker — one guy, less hoops to jump through, and more autonomy.

Phyllis: Okay, well, he’d be holding all the hoops. You know this. And if you start working with him and your agenda is different than his agenda, it’s war.

Daniel: I’m not naive. I know his reputation. But I don’t judge people for the worst thing they’ve ever done. And he seemed genuine in his enthusiasm for my vision.

Phyllis: Of course he is — because your vision is brilliant, because you’re brilliant, Daniel. He wants to be a part of that. He is not real. He is not a genuine guy.

Daniel: You know, Omege Sphere is supposed to be about changing people’s lives, right? Giving the opportunity to grow and be better. I think that if Tucker is willing to do that in his own life, then he might be the better alternative than Newman Media. If — if we need one. I’m not ready to jump ship yet. I trust Lily to come through.

Victor: Well, Michael Baldwin is still trying to find out what Tucker McCall’s true motives are. I mean, how is he gonna regain solid footing without selling his entire company? He has no backing, no bank supporting him at the moment. I think the walls are closing in on him.

Nick: There’s something else we should be worried about. Newman Media recently hired Audra Charles. Now, Nate told Victoria that she was working with Tucker to leak information about the Chancellor-Winters IPO. So we need to be very wary of her allegiances. Despite what she’s told us, I wouldn’t put deception past her. We still don’t know the status of her and Tucker’s relationship. They could still be aligned.

Nikki: We need to keep Audra at a distance until we know if we can trust her.

Victor: Well, let’s think about that for a moment. I think it might be to our advantage if she keeps working with Tucker McCall.

Victoria: I think Dad’s right. I think we need to stay on the offense, turn the tables, force him to be on his guard around us.

Nikki: Are you saying you think we should go after McCall Unlimited?

Victoria: I am. And we were looking for a way to expand by taking over Chancellor-Winters. That door has closed, so maybe another one is opening.

Nick: I don’t think that’s the right move at all. If Tucker’s struggling, it could make him an even more dangerous adversary, and we all know what he’s capable of. Tucker could be very close to crumbling on his own. If that’s the case, then we just let him do it. And then Newman Enterprises swoops in, takes up all the pieces as his company falls apart. To blatantly go after him right now seems too risky.

Victor: Or it’s a golden opportunity. His divisions fold nicely into our portfolio.

Nick: If we succeed in taking them over.

Victor: Son, have you ever known me to go into battle without believing I’d win?

Nick: I’m not dismissing the idea, Dad. I just think we need to carefully weigh the pros and cons before we make the move. Vick, we really got to go. We’re late for that meeting with VPs.

Victoria: But I would like to revisit this sooner rather than later. It’s a good opportunity. I wouldn’t want to see it slip away.

[ Door closes ]

Audra: I was surprised to hear from you. Last time we spoke, you wanted nothing to do with me.

Tucker: Yeah. I let my temper get the best of me. I apologize. It’s a part of myself that I really don’t like and I’m trying to evolve past. [ Sighs ] But, um…I miss — I miss our conversations and — and your take on things. And I’m in a bit of a crossroads now, and I could use some of that.

Audra: So, you called me here to entertain you.

Tucker: No. No.

Audra: Then you want some kind of information out of me?

Tucker: [ Chuckles ] When did you get so cynical?

Audra: The day I met you. You know, I’ve known you way too long to fall for this “Let’s have an innocent chat” line, okay? Just get to the point.

Tucker: Uh [Clears throat] I was actually wondering if you knew anything about Newman Media’s pursuit of Daniel Romalotti’s new gaming platform.

Audra: Ah! There it is. You want me to use my connections and resources to collude with you again? I’d think you would have more important things to do, like, um, fly to Paris and beg Ashley for forgiveness or mending the rift with your son. Wait. Now I’m starting to think that everything you told me about coming to Genoa City to repair your relationships with them was absolute B.S.

Tucker: No. No. My desire to make things right with them was and still is sincere.

Audra: Ah.

Tucker: Yeah, but dwelling and sulking are not in my nature, so I need to keep moving forward. And this — this gaming project seems intriguing to me.

Audra: Keep your hands off that. If anyone is gonna snatch it away from Chancellor-Winters, it’s gonna be Newman Media.

Tucker: [ Laughs ] I got to say, the idea of competing with you on it makes it even more interesting. I miss you, Audra. I miss our partnership. And we were good friends, right?

Audra: We were. But you blew it.

Tucker: I know I did. I’m sorry.

Audra: Hey.

Tucker: Can we hit reset?

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Thanks for, uh — for joining me.

Chelsea: Yeah.

Billy: Felt like I needed to get some fresh air, you know, clear my head a little.

Chelsea: Mm. I did, too. I was getting a little antsy in the apartment. And it’s nice to finally want to go out and want to go somewhere.

[ Sighs heavily ]

Billy: It’s a crisp, beautiful day.

Chelsea: It is. So, why do you have to clear your head? Is something on your mind?

Billy: No, nothing in particular, really. I guess I’m just, you know, thinking about you and your desire to find your purpose. That’s not an easy thing to do.

Chelsea: Mm.

Billy: Trust me. I’ve failed at it repeatedly.

Chelsea: Hey, don’t talk about my friend like that.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Chelsea: I don’t know. I think the key to finding peace isn’t just [Sighs] figuring out what your purpose is. It’s figuring out what your purpose isn’t. And you are doing that work. You’re narrowing it down. You’re — you’re giving yourself space to explore, you know? I believe that you shouldn’t just choose between things that people offer you. You need to trust yourself and pave your own path.

Billy: That’s a very generous perspective of my life.

Chelsea: [ Laughs ]

Daniel: Lily has been one of the truest and most genuine people that I’ve known for as long as I can remember. If anyone can be trusted, it’s her.

Phyllis: Listen, I really like Lily. I do. And I understand that you have loyalty toward her. I totally get where that comes from. But it just seems to me that her company is imploding. I really think you should get out while you can.

Daniel: Huh. Well, this is just a little bit ironic, don’t you think? I mean, it seems like you’re sitting here telling me that I should cut all ties before they drag me down. You literally just let an old grudge ruin your career and your relationship with Summer.

Phyllis: Okay. Okay. Daniel, everything that I said and I predicted about that situation proved that I was correct.

Daniel: That’s great. That’s fantastic. What did being right get you? [ Sighs ]

Billy: You know, I’ve had a lot of time to think. I don’t have a job. Living alone at the Grand Phoenix, you know, plenty of time to ponder my loneliness, my likes, my dislikes, my joys, despair. I’ve had a lot of sobering moments. But, you know, it’s like I said last time we were hanging out. When I see you, it’s, uh — you know, it’s like a highlight of my day. I guess I’m realizing in all of this that we’ve — we’ve lived parallel lives for quite some time.

Chelsea: Well, that’s kind of a stretch.

[ Both chuckle ]

Billy: Well, maybe my issues haven’t been quite as intensive as yours, but, you know, there are similarities there, both emotionally and mentally. You know, this — this journey that we’re on — I don’t know. I guess that’s maybe why we connect. I guess what I’m saying is I’m very grateful for this friendship.

Audra: Yeah, absolutely. Ready to jump back in.

Nate: Whatever you had to do seemed to put a pep in your step.

Audra: Oh, I, uh, had to put some issues from my past to bed. And, um, yeah…I feel good.

Nate: I hope this brush with the past doesn’t involve anything that might take you away from Newman and back to London.

Audra: I’m not looking for a new gig. I like it here. But it’s good to know that I’m valued. And I’m coming around the idea of going after Omege Sphere.

Nate: Really? Great.

Audra: So let’s put our heads together and figure out a way.

[ Knock on door ]

Victor: Baby, you have been awfully quiet since we broached the subject of potentially acquiring Tucker McCall’s company.

Nikki: I’m hoping that Michael will find something that will make a takeover less hostile and risky.

Victor: I’m still in favor of making a move on his company.

Nikki: Well, I can certainly see the upside for us, although Newman Enterprises really isn’t lacking in anything right now. And for Victoria, I know for her it’s more the love of the game, which she inherited from you. What I don’t understand is why you seem to be so invested in this.

Victor: Baby, you just said that Victoria inherited her love of the game from me. Doesn’t that explain everything?

Nikki: Not this time.

Victor: Hmm.

Nikki: It seems like you are specifically going after Tucker McCall. And if that’s the case… I want to know why.

Nick: I am glad that didn’t take long.

Victoria: I know. The VP meetings are much more efficient when we eliminate all the small talk at the beginning.

Nick: Agreed. Thank you, Andy. What looks good to you? I’m starving.

Victoria: Before we worry about what we’re gonna eat, I have to ask you — why are you not sold on this Tucker idea? I mean, the upside is enormous. The reach of McCall Unlimited is international, and having that brand under the Newman umbrella, it would just solidify our position in the global community. Plus, snatching Tucker’s company out from underneath him would be delicious karma, especially after all of his past lies and machinations.

Nick: That’s all true, but something about this doesn’t sit right with me. I can’t shake the feeling that this is all part of a bigger plan that Dad’s put in motion by telling us about it.

Victoria: Well, that wouldn’t be the first time.

Nick: Doesn’t make it alright.

Victoria: Anything else troubling you?

Nick: [ Sighs ] What do you mean?

Victoria: I don’t know. Call it sisterly intuition, but I feel like you’ve been carrying around this personal weight all day. Whatever it is, you can talk to me about it, alright? Because if we have learned anything this past year, it’s that we can trust each other. Tucker. Join us.

Tucker: Hey.

Daniel: Sorry for stopping in unannounced and for all the confusion with my mother earlier. I just wanted to clear the air. Obviously, she overstepped. Her intentions were good, but she jumped the gun on something that she doesn’t know a lot about and doesn’t have any control over.

Audra: I suspected as much since I remember hearing about your collaboration with Chancellor-Winters when I worked there, and I assume it wasn’t as easy as just placing a bid.

Daniel: You’re right. It’s not. I have an active contract with them, and I have every intention of honoring it. After our encounter, I just felt like I should come here in person and, you know, clarify any misconceptions. But if anything does change in the future, I’d be happy to sit down and discuss possibilities. So, again, sorry for any confusion.

Nate: Uh, hold on a second. If you have a few minutes and there’s an opportunity for some kind of future collaboration, however small the chances are, what’s the harm in letting us sell ourselves to you?

Chelsea: You’ve been thinking about this a lot, haven’t you?

Billy: Does it seem that way? Well, I guess it’s just, you know, we’ve — we’ve both had our fair share of struggles.

Chelsea: Mm.

Billy: And I’m not comparing mine to yours or anything like that, but I know — I know that darkness…

Chelsea: Mm.

Billy: …When you’re trying to find that light or that saving grace. I know that feeling. You know, we’ve both been adrift when it comes to finding a career or something that fulfills us. And don’t take this the wrong way, but we both struck out on love.

Chelsea: Alright, alright, I get it.

Billy: You’re not finding any comfort in what we have in common?

Chelsea: No, please, please carry on.

Billy: I don’t know. You know, it’s just we’ve both fought back against being pigeonholed into these opportunities that other people think are right for us.

Chelsea: Mm-hmm.

Billy: Instead, we search for what makes us feel good, what our passions are. And I think — [ Sighs ] I think that’s what I loved about the podcast, you know? I mean, the back-and-forth was great, of course, but I think it was getting to know each other on that — that deeper level.

Chelsea: I think so, too. You know, when you said the parallel lives thing earlier, I thought you were just trying to make me feel less alone, but now I believe you actually mean it.

Billy: I do. You know, I’m — I’m very proud of all the work that you’ve done and how determined you are. And it makes me feel determined, too.

Chelsea: [ Breathes deeply ]

Nate: The first thing I would say as far as Chancellor-Winters versus Newman goes is that Audra and I have worked at both places and we have found Newman Media to be a much happier business home.

Daniel: Well, I’m sorry you didn’t have a good experience at Chancellor-Winters, but that hasn’t been the case for me.

Audra: You had to have noticed the turmoil there.

Daniel: I am committed to Lily and her company. My word — it means a lot to me. When I make commitments, I do my best to honor them and to not betray the people that believe in me. This project means everything to me. It’s literally my future. It’s not a “sell to the highest bidder” kind of thing. So, I hope that’s something that you can both understand and accept and respect. [ Chuckles ] Again, thank you for your time.

Nate: I am more intrigued than ever.

Audra: If you intend to go after Daniel’s platform, you should know you have some competition waiting for you. Tucker McCall has the same idea.

Nate: And you know that how?

Chelsea: No. I don’t think it would be too stressful. I’d like that.

Chelsea: Yeah.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Alright, uh… well, we’ll figure it out.

Chelsea: Sounds great.

Victor: But I have other reasons for wanting to acquire McCall Unlimited.

Nikki: Care to fill me in?

Victor: [ Breathes deeply ] I have a feeling that one of the divisions might be appealing to Adam when he comes back.

Nikki: You mean if he comes back. Victor, don’t tell me that’s what this is about — trying to lure Adam back to Newman Enterprises.

Victor: No, no, no, no. As I said, there would be many benefits to acquiring McCall Unlimited.

Nikki: And you realize that your other children are not pawns in your constant battle with Adam, right?

Victor: I know that. Don’t you worry, okay? I’ve thought this through. I think this will be good for everyone concerned. But when Adam realizes that we have McCall Unlimited in our portfolio, that would give him a very strong reason to stay.

Tucker: A, uh — [ Laughs ] an invitation from the Newman siblings? That’s…a suspicious surprise.

Victoria: No, we — we just wanted to talk.

Tucker: Oh, really? What about?

Nick: Your future plans.

Tucker: Yeah, I figured. Say, did you fill him in on the nasty rumor you started that I’m coming after your company?

Victoria: Oh, that? Uh, no, I — I hadn’t given it a second thought since we spoke, since the idea of you being successful at it is dubious at best.

Tucker: What, then?

Victoria: Oh, we just wanted to let you know that there’s another nasty rumor floating around.

Tucker: Oh. Do tell.

Nick: Your company’s in trouble.

Tucker: Well, you know you’re on top when people feel the need to start gossiping about you. But, uh, I don’t believe rumors. Neither should you.

Daniel: Tucker mccall. Yeah, I heard you were back in town. I’m sure that so many just love having you here.

Tucker: [ Chuckles ]

Daniel: How’s the reception been?

Tucker: Nice to see you, too.

Daniel: [ Chuckles ]

Tucker: Actually, the timing couldn’t be better.

Daniel: Why is that?

Tucker: Oh, I’ve been hearing great things about your new gaming venture. I must say, it sounds intriguing.

Daniel: Really?

Tucker: Mm-hmm.

Daniel: What have you heard and from whom?

Tucker: Mm. Word around town, you know. Plus, I had an interesting conversation with your mom about it.

Daniel: Hmm. Yeah, well, my mom can’t help but brag about my new idea.

Tucker: Mm.

Daniel: Still in the very early stages, though, so got to be protective of my intellectual property. I’m sure if anyone can understand that, it’s you.

Tucker: She didn’t divulge any secrets or anything. But I did gather that you are looking for a new backer. So, as long as we’re here, why don’t you let me refill your coffee and — and make you a pitch as to why that backer should be me?

Audra: Regina is a fireball. I told you she knows her stuff.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] And you. You said all the right things to get her on board with helping us to launch our showcast initiative.

Audra: You were pretty savvy, too, nailing a few of the key details that, you know, could be beneficial to newman media if the deal goes through. I think we just might have hooked her.

Nate: I got that sense, too.

[ Chuckles ]

Audra: Listen, I appreciate you giving me the chance to dive in like this.

Nate: Of course. That’s the kind of collaboration I want to see around here. Speaking of which, I have a meeting now that I’d like you to sit in on. It’s with daniel romalotti. He has a new gaming concept that sounds like it might be promising.

Phyllis: Hey. I’m a little early. Is that okay?

Nate: Of course. Of course. Come in.

Phyllis: Okay, great.

Nate: I asked my new coo, audra charles, to sit in on this pitch. Audra, this is phyllis summers, daniel romalotti’s mother. She set this meeting up.

Phyllis: Nice to meet you.

Audra: Hi.

Phyllis: Hi. Um… uh, well, alright. Well, I am ready. Uh, shall we proceed?

Nate: Don’t we need to wait for daniel? You told me this was your son’s project. I was expecting to hear his vision directly.

Lily: Great. Sounds like we have a deal then. Okay, well, let’s follow up tomorrow. Alright. Bye. Oh. Thank you. Hi.

Billy: Just like you, multitasking, of course.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Yes, always. Well, thank you for the assist.

Billy: Yeah. There was a time that that was my job, right? Make sure that your day ran smoothly.

Sally: I know, chloe. I cannot believe that jill did that to us, either. I mean, we came all this way to meet her, and she just canceled on us with no explanation? I mean, who does that?

[ Scoffs ] Right. Yes. No. Jill does that. Yeah, I think I’m gonna stay in L.A. For a little while. I don’t know. Maybe she’ll change her mind, or maybe I’ll just barge in her office and give her a piece of my mind.

[ Chuckles ] Yeah. I mean, it sounds like a lot of fun.

Nick: Sally, I’ve been through this a few times. Is there a chance this is morning sickness?

Nick: Hey, what’s that groan about? Is that because of the joke, or are you still having morning sickness?

Sally: A little of both.

Nick: You okay?

Sally: Yeah. I’m actually doing better than last week. I’m just a little shaky this morning.

Nick: Well, you might also just be a little nervous because you’re meeting with jill. Sally, you and chloe — you’re prepared. You’re going to kill it.

Sally: Yeah. We’ve been working hard. Uh…I’m just a little distracted. I’m sure you are, too.

Nick: Yeah. It’s, uh — it’s been on my mind a lot.

Sally: I’m sorry.

Nick: For what?

Sally: Well, I feel like i just dropped this huge news on you and then I just a minute later jumped on a plane to california.

Nick: No, I don’t want you to worry about that, alright? You’re the one who has a lot on your plate right now. Speaking of which, are you eating healthy?

Sally: Yes.

Nick: Okay. Also getting a lot of rest, drinking water, taking your vitamins?

Sally: Yes, yes, and yes, dr. Newman.

Nick: Good — ’cause that’s all you should be worrying about right now, is taking care of yourself and the baby.

Sally: Oh, is that all I have to worry about?

Nick: Well, the baby and your meeting with jill.

Sally: [ Sighs ]

Phyllis: Uh, well, you know, daniel and I are partners. Um, he’s the creative, and i handle all business matters. Um, so I’m just here as, um, the advance team, um, here to gauge interest.

Nate: I see.

Phyllis: Yeah. And if this goes well and you are, in fact, interested, I’ll set up a meeting with daniel.

Nate: Okay.

Phyllis: Okay?

Nate: Proceed.

Phyllis: Yeah. Okay. Well…how do I start? My son has created a new gaming platform. It’s, uh, innovative. It’s obviously creative. It’s — it’s gonna change gaming, quite honestly. And it has the potential to be incredibly lucrative. It appeals to adults and young people alike. Not only that — it is emotionally and psychologically productive.

Nate: I sense a mother’s pride.

Phyllis: Well, I mean, of course, but, I mean, you know I’m a gamer, right? So I know when something works and when something is good. I mean, I wouldn’t be here if i wasn’t passionate about this project.

Nate: Well, your enthusiasm is contagious.

Phyllis: Oh, thank you. Thank you. Well, it is a game changer, pun intended.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] I get it. And I love what I hear.

Audra: If this is as good as you say it is, I’m guessing there are other corporations interested. Are we the first to hear this pitch, or are you trying to start a bidding war?

Daniel: Are you really serious about this?

Tucker: I wouldn’t be sitting here with you wasting my time or yours if I wasn’T.

Daniel: Do you know any of the details about my project?

Tucker: I know enough. And I’m pretty sure mccall is a match in a lot of ways. Why don’t you tell me more about what you’re looking for?

Daniel: Deep pockets, creative freedom.

Tucker: Of course.

Daniel: But you obviously heard enough from your conversation with my mother to be interested already. So, why don’t we just skip to the part where you dazzle me? I’d like to thank our sponsor liberty mutual.

Nate: Well, look, um, I pride myself on being bold and decisive, but before I can make a move on an investment of this magnitude, I would have to have further discussions with daniel involved.

Audra: I agree with nate. I would like to hear from someone other than the creative’s proud mother before making an investment.

Phyllis: Great. Well, I will set up a meeting with daniel, but that’s why I’m here. He’s the creative, and creative geniuses — they need their energy and their time protected. And that’s what I do. I protect him, so… well, if there’s truly interest in daniel’s project, then I will set up a meeting with him. Thank you for your time.

Nate: Thank you, phyllis.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Nate: I like what I heard. But I get the feeling you’re somewhat reticent.

Tucker: I heard that you got the venture set up at chancellor-winters, but that phyllis has also pitched it to newman. If creative control is what you’re after, both those companies are a very bad fit.

Daniel: How would you know that?

Tucker: I know how the newmans work. And I know jill very well. So, if you think you’re gonna have any autonomy at either of those places, think again. I, on the other hand — I know how you’re feeling. I know — I know the hunger and the drive you have. I know what it’s like to build something from nothing ’cause I’ve lived that. There’s a sense of ownership, that it’s hard to let go of, right?

Daniel: Mm. Well, this is more than, you know, just being about ownership or ego. My platform isn’t just a game. It has a bolder mission to transform people’s lives.

Tucker: Terrific. As someone whose, uh, spiritual soul was reborn at an ashram, I can get behind any platform that’s, uh, life-affirming, as well as entertaining and, uh, lucrative. Hey, I got to tell you, I did a little research on you. Um, it’s led to a couple assumptions.

Daniel: Like what?

Tucker: Well, I know that your partner and daughter are now living in portugal. Is that right?

Daniel: That’s right.

Tucker: Yeah.

Daniel: I’m not really sure how details of my personal life are really any of your business. But you know what? You want to know what I’m looking for in a corporate partner? It’s, um… it’s one who doesn’t pry where he’s not welcome.

Sally: You know, if chloe and I make a deal with chancellor-winters, I might have to move out here.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Really?

Sally: I mean, it’s a possibility. How would you feel about that?

Nick: Um, I guess the, uh — the bigger question is, how would you feel about that? Could you live there again?

Sally: I mean, it’s nice when the sun is shining. And it’s always shining. It’s vibrant and exciting. It might be the best thing for me, professionally.

Nick: Well, if that is the best thing for you, sally, then, um…we’ll make it work.

Sally: So, you would support me if I had to pack up and move back to california?

Nick: I would.

Nick: But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, alright? You and chloe still need to make your pitch, and then we will take it from there. But whatever happens, I will support your decision. We’re gonna make this work, sally.

Sally: You’re right. Yeah. We will make it work.

[ Chuckles ] And I’m not moving back to los angeles. I feel like genoa city is my home. I belong there… with you.

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Billy: I’ve been thinking about you. How did everything go with devon?

Lily: Well, I would love nothing more than to talk shop with you…

Billy: Ah, yeah.

Lily: …’Cause I really miss those days. But I think I shared a little more than I should have.

Billy: You always led with integrity. Just one of the things that i admire about you.

Lily: How are you? Have you figured out your next life move?

[ Both chuckle ]

Billy: No. No. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise to you. Although I do have a few ideas that I miss running by you, too.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: What do you say? You want to grab coffee? We can talk about anything but chancellor-winters. That’s me before dawn powerwash.

Lily: I would love to. I — I really would. But I have such a crazy day ahead of me.

Billy: Hey, it’s okay. No problem.

Lily: But thank you for helping me with my coat.

[ Both laugh ] And for understanding what I can and can’t talk about right now. But, listen, I’m sure if you call jill, she will give you an earful. I just — I don’t feel like it’s my place.

Billy: Yeah, that’s what I’m worried about. I’m actually gonna steer clear of my mother right now. I don’t feel like putting myself in the line of fire.

Lily: I hope you know that nothing I’m dealing with at chancellor winters is because of you.

Billy: Thank you. Appreciate that. And I’m sorry about everything you’re going through. But I do know that you’ll figure it out.

Lily: Thank you. I hope you find what you’re looking for, too. Bye.

Billy: Yeah. Bye.

Diane: How do you feel about this? I know there’s been a lot going on around here, and, well, this is another change to take in.

Kyle: We wondered if this might be coming. We’ve seen the signs of the two of you growing closer, but to be honest, we never thought it would actually happen.

Diane: Well, it kind of took us by surprise, as well. Look, I-I want you to know this was not my intention. I came back to town solely for the purpose of connecting with you. I mean, I never expected jack to forgive me for the past. But, kyle, you know more than anyone what a special man your father is. And I’m beyond grateful that he was able to appreciate the changes that I’ve made in my life, changes I’ve made for you.

Jack: Look, it may be premature to analyze all this right now, but I thought it was very important that you and summer both know. The last thing I want is for diane to feel she has to sneak around. She’s every bit as welcome here as you are. She’s family.

Kyle: I-I don’t know how i feel about all this. So I apologize if I’m not ready to fully embrace the idea of the two of you being back together. But you two seem happy. And of course I’m all for that.

Jack: I’d like to think you could be pleased for us. That’s all I can ask. Oh, and to your point — yes, we are very happy.

Summer: Okay. Well, um, kyle and I actually have to get going. We’ve got that, um, breakfast meeting that we’ve got to get to, remember?

Kyle: Right, right. Um… we’ll see you later.

Jack: Yeah.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I don’t think kyle was very pleased at all.

Audra: Daniel already has his project set up at chancellor-winters. I wasn’t privy to the details of the deal since it wasn’t pertaining directly to the ipo, but lily and devon talked of plans of building an entire gaming division around his idea.

Nate: Then why is phyllis coming to us?

Audra: [ Scoffs ] It doesn’t make any sense. Unless, you know, she and daniel are double-crossing lily and devon or trying to inflate their offer with a counteroffer.

Nate: Or…things are in flux at chancellor-winters. I’ve heard enough to be interested, but I don’t want to waste my time on it if we’re being used in some sort of chess match.

Audra: And I have to wonder about phyllis’ involvement. She strikes me as a bit of a loose cannon. But whatever it is, I am confident we can get to the bottom of this.

Tucker: If you feel i overstepped, I apologize. I certainly didn’t mean to be intrusive by looking into your personal life. I just feel like it’s — it’s important to understand the whole person, you know, their state of mind, especially people that I might be doing business with.

Daniel: And you think by digging up dirt on my family, you can do that?

Tucker: [ Clears throat ] Well, I’ve come to believe that it’s nearly impossible, if not impossible, to separate the personal from the professional. And so, given your circumstances with your family, um, there’s bound to be some sadness and some feelings of loss. So, that might affect your decision making. But, hey, I’ve been alienated from family, as well. And, uh, unfortunately, it was due to my own actions. But I know that, at the same time, that pain you feel from the past can be a strong motivator to set things right. Really, all I’m saying is I can tell that, for you, this venture is not about money. It’s not about subscriptions. It’s about trying to do something meaningful, important for you and your family, and showing to them that you can learn from your mistakes. And that’s — pfft. That’s what I am all about these days. So I would like to help you achieve that goal. I think together we could really achieve something meaningful.

Lily: Hello.

Tucker: Hello.

Lily: Sorry to interrupt. I just — I happened to hear your not-so-subtle pitch. Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you. I don’t know if you knew this, but daniel’s actually under a contract with me. Trelegy for copd.

Kyle: Thanks. Two coffees, please. I’ve got to admit, I was pretty thrown, even more than I let on.

Summer: [ Sighs ] I guess my mom was right. Diane’s had her sights on jack all along.

Kyle: You think my mom came back for him?

Summer: No, of course not. She came back to reconnect with you. Her love for you and harrison isn’t in question, but you got to admit, reuniting with jack is a perk.

Kyle: I know, in theory, kids are supposed to want their parents to get back together, but given their history, i just — I can’t root for that.

Summer: Yeah, every time my parents reconnect, they end up crashing and burning. So I understand. On the other hand, diane is a bit of a step up from the last woman your dad fell for — sally spectra.

Kyle: Yeah, that’s an extremely low bar to clear. And my dad’s way more invested in my mom. So, if things fall apart, he’ll be devastated. I just wish they’d kept things platonic.

Summer: That would have been a lot more simple for everyone. I guess, even after all this time, they still have chemistry.

Kyle: Maybe it was inevitable, given everything they’ve been through since my mom came back to town, bonding over being parents and grandparents to working together to get rid of this threat with stark. I saw the signs, but, still, this is too fast.

Summer: It’s possible that the adrenaline from pulling off that caper against stark actually escalated things. There’s nothing more intoxicating than a little danger.

Diane: You know, I just feel like I’d already lost so much ground with kyle after this whole jeremy stark mess that he’s become wary of my motives. I just get the feeling that he’s afraid that I’m going to hurt you again. And I hate that.

Jack: I just wish he could know I would never be standing here if I thought there was any chance of that.

Diane: Jack, I want you to know that I would never do anything to drive you away again.

Jack: Oh, god —

Diane: No, after everything I’ve been through and — and all those years, I — I know what it’s like to lose you. And kyle. To be alone. And I will — I will never put myself at risk for that again.

Billy: Hey, you two. Sorry to interrupt, but I was just hoping that you could clear something up for me.

Kyle: What?

Billy: Jeremy stark’s arrest. How did that come about?

Kyle: Apparently, he stole a necklace from victor and nikki’s apartment in chicago. The police found his prints there and since he was already in the database it was easy to locate him here and now he’s back in jail where he can’t threaten my mother or anyone else again.

Billy: Well, that’s good. But it does seem odd, doesn’t it? I mean, everything I’m reading about the guy, he sounds like a high-stakes money launderer, and then he gets busted stealing jewelry?

Kyle: I guess his time in federal prison made him a more diversified criminal.

Billy: Well, if he didn’t learn the first time, I doubt he will the second time. Good to see you both.

Kyle: See you.

Tucker: Yes, I’m aware that daniel is set up at chancellor-winters. But, uh, apparently there’s some kind of snag with your intended ipo that’s holding things up? Certainly you didn’t expect your up-and-coming ventures to just sit around in limbo while you try to fix your company’s problem.

Lily: Well, I don’t know if you forgot, but you’re actually responsible for those snags and problems. You planted audra in our office, tried to take over our company. Remember that? And then devon figured it out. Daniel, this guy is unbelievable. You cannot trust him. He tried to betray his own son. He would have no problem betraying you.

Tucker: There are two sides to every story.

[ Chuckles ] Especially when it comes to family conflicts. Anyway, I will leave you two to it. Please think about what I said. Lily.

Lily: Daniel, you’re not actually thinking about breaking our contract to go with tucker, are you? Because that would be a huge mistake. Age-related macular degeneration may lead to severe vision loss.

Lily: Daniel, I thought that you had faith in me, that I want to make omega sphere real.

Daniel: Yeah. No, I do. I don’t want to back out of our deal. Look, the holdup’s making me nervous, and I am anxious to move forward for a lot of reasons, all of which you already know. And I did not seek out tucker. The man came to me.

Lily: How did he even know to come to you?

Daniel: Apparently, my mother put a bug in his ear, something which I’m really not too happy about.

Lily: Oh, my god. Please tell me you didn’t buy anything that he was saying. He is such a snake. I am telling you.

Daniel: No, no, no, I get it. I mean, you’ve made how you feel about the guy perfectly clear.

Lily: Look, daniel, I — i know why you want to make this launch happen quickly. I know — ’cause you want to show heather and lucy that you have turned your life around. I get that. And I want to make that happen for you.

Daniel: I believe you.

Lily: But you know that i can’t move forward with any projects until we figure out this thing with the ipo. You know that.

Daniel: Honestly, that’s what’s been making me so nervous. You know, it’s like I want nothing more than to move forward on this with you, but —

Lily: Look, daniel [Sighs] I know this is important to you, okay? And I want to make this happen. So I’m gonna make you a deal, okay? Give me one week. One week to make this happen. And I promise you, if I don’t, I’ll let you out of your contract.

Tucker: Hi, phyllis.

Phyllis: Tucker.

Tucker: Hey, I just had a very interesting and productive conversation with your son.

Phyllis: Did you?

Tucker: I did. And the good news is he sees the wisdom in bringing me aboard.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] I told you to keep away from my son. You went behind my back.

Tucker: Didn’t you go behind his back to pitch the business to newman media? Daniel tried to hide it, but i could tell he had no idea.

Phyllis: Stay away from my son. I mean it. Neither my son nor I want anything to do with you, business-wise, at all. And I’ll take the next one, by the way.

Tucker: Alright. You should talk to daniel about that because you might get a different perspective. As far as I know, uh, it’s his project and you’re just along for the ride.

Audra: I know.

Lily: Ohh. Well, look what we have here — the ceo and coo of newman media. I’m so happy you two landed on your feet. That’s amazing. Clearly, the company you work for has questionable business ethics.

Nate: [ Chuckles ] Daniel, I liked what I heard from phyllis about your new gaming venture. I am eager to hear from you directly about your —

Lily: Wait, I’m sorry. You are talking to tucker and you have your mom talking to nate?

Daniel: Hold on. I had nothing to do with any meeting at newman media. She obviously acted on her own and quite prematurely.

Audra: I thought something seemed off.

Daniel: [ Sighs heavily ] You know, I’m really sorry that my mother wasted your time. Um, I’ll make sure that she’s better informed about my goals in the future. I’m gonna check in with you later.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: Stark is in jail, but the trouble he’s caused still lingers. Billy’s clearly not buying the story. Neither do nikki or chance. How long till all this falls apart?

Summer: This is why I said that plan was a mistake from the get-go, but no one wanted to listen to me.

Kyle: Mm. I know your feelings on the matter. And if you hadn’t insisted i stay out of it, maybe I could have helped my parents come up with a better solution.

Summer: You really think getting involved would be a better option? You should be thanking me for keeping you out of it.

Kyle: Come on, summer. I — [ Sighs ] I don’t want to argue. This has been a stressful enough time for all of us. Hopefully, no one will press us on the details of the cover story and we can all put this in the past.

Summer: I couldn’t agree more. There’s nothing I would love better than to go back to leading marchetti and enjoying married life with our wonderful son. No more family plotting. Which reminds me — have you made a decision yet?

Kyle: About victor?

Summer: Yes. And his plan to enlist you in forcing adam to fail at jabot? Please tell me that you turned him down.

Nick: You can do this. You and chloe are gonna get in that room with jill and you’re going to dazzle her. You got a great idea. You are ready. She wants to work with you. This is a slam dunk.

Sally: What are you, like, a part-time cheerleader?

Nick: Hey, if that’s what you need to get motivated, a rah-rah routine, I can do it. Let’s go. Rah, rah, rah.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] Ah. Alright. You have put me back on the right track.

Nick: You’re gonna do this. You got it?

Sally: I got it. Thanks, nick. I’m really lucky to have you in my life. The baby’s really lucky to have you, too.

Nick: Good luck this morning.

Sally: I’ll be home soon.

[ Sighs ]

Diane: Mmm.

Jack: I could stay here forever.

Diane: Wouldn’t that be nice? We could just stay in this wonderful cocoon, not have to worry about anybody.

Jack: You still worried about kyle?

Diane: I can’t help it.

Jack: I understand your being concerned, but he needs time to process it. He’ll come around.

Diane: You think so?

Jack: I do.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Hey. I just hate to see worry like this. I will be by your side, making sure he knows how happy we are. Mmm.

[ Both breathe deeply ]

Kyle: All victor wants is to find a way to give adam a little push out of jabot.

Summer: And he wants your help in doing that. You can’t let my grandpa manipulate you this way.

Kyle: Whoa, he’s not manipulating me. I am in the driver’s seat.

Summer: I just can’t believe that you’re still even considering this.

Kyle: I explained my reasoning for that. I would only do it if I was certain I was protected and no one would find out about it — and for those textile mills for marchetti.

Summer: You know, there are other ways to gain control of those, if that is your endgame. But I’m starting to think that you’re just using that as an excuse.

Kyle: What do you think I’m really after then?

Summer: I’m afraid that your hatred for adam is your main motivation. And I would really hate to see you damage your relationship with your father over that.

Kyle: I would only do it if i was sure he wouldn’t find out.

Summer: But no one can guarantee that, not even my grandpa.

Kyle: Okay, you’re right.

Summer: Look, colluding with my grandpa — it’s not a good idea. It’s not likely to end well. And I just would really love to avoid any more drama right now.

Kyle: That’s what I want, too.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Summer: What’s up?

Kyle: Um…nothing important.

[ Knock on door ]

Phyllis: Oh, hey! I’m glad you’re here. Listen, I have a lot to report. Um, but before that, I need to set you straight on something. Or, I should say, set you straight on someone.

Daniel: No. No, actually, I need to set you straight. I know what you did.

Phyllis: What are you talking about?

Daniel: Omega sphere. And while I appreciate that you were trying to help me, you need to stay out of this. I am not risking what I already potentially have with lily and chancellor-winters. You can’t just decide on your own to go and pitch my idea. No, you can’T. We are not partners. You work for me. And once again, I’m questioning why I hired you.

Nate: Have you had a chance to go over anything else about the new podcasts?

Audra: Uh, yeah. So, right now I’m filtering out based on availability and —

Billy: Boy, oh, boy, was i wrong about you. I mean, I really thought you were better than this. I thought you actually cared about your family, but I’m wrong. You have fully embraced the ruthless cliché of the c-suite executive, haven’t you? Backstab your family, jump to newman enterprises, and hire audra. Congratulations. I gave you far too much credit.
