THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[dramatic music]

Well, will you look at this?  Someone sent cupcakes–  to celebrate the premiere of “Body & Soul,” I presume.

Who are they from?

I have no idea.  Harold said that they came by messenger.  One for you, one for Chanel.  And here’s the card.

“Congrats on the big premiere,  from your ‘Body & Soul’ family.”

How lovely.  The first episode drops sometime this morning, yes?

Yeah, at–at :.

Would it kill you to sound excited?  What’s going on, Johnny?

Take a wild guess.

So you’re still stewing over that situation with Joy Wesley?

Well, it’s kind of a big situation, wouldn’t you say?  I mean, what–what, do you expect me to just  forget that it happened and put on a happy face?  Damn it, Dad, I–  I cheated on my wife.  It’s all I think about.

There she is.

Oh, hey, Kate.

Hey.  So excited about taping your first show of the week?

Actually, what I’m really grateful for  is this dark day that we have today.

Oh, do you have something special planned, or–

Just learning my lines.

Oh.  Well, I’m very pleased that you’re so diligent,  but I hope you take some time to have fun too.  Have you–have you met anyone new in Salem?  Have you made any friends?

Just the other cast members, really.  They’ve all been so nice.  Especially Chanel.  She actually invited me for dinner last night.

Oh, that was lovely, considering the fact  that you’re trying to steal her man on-screen, right?  But you’re friends off-screen.  Very glad to hear that.  [light music]

All right. Special delivery, Mrs. Brady.

What?  [laughs] So what’s this?

Well, open it and see.

Oh! [laughing] What?  A cupcake.  Almost too pretty to eat.

“BS”?

Yeah, “Body & Soul.”

Oh.

What, to celebrate that the first episode  is streaming today?

Obviously, yes.  [ominous music]  Wonder who sent it.

Look what just came for you, Abraham.

Sweet Bits?

Oh, mm, not in a Sweet Bits box.  And it arrived by messenger.  No actual signature on the card.  Just mentioned “Body & Soul.”

Well, could be from Kate, I suppose.

Mm, nah, no.  Kate would want the credit.  She’d definitely sign the card.

Any educated guesses?

Some whippersnapper actor kissing your derriere?  [laughter]

Hey!

Ah, good morning…

Good morning. Mwah.

Stepson. Ooh.  Hope you don’t mind my just inviting myself over.

No. What do you mean? You kidding me?  I didn’t want to watch the premiere of “Body & Soul”  by myself either.

Right?  What fun would that be, actually?  And since your dad is busy in court  and all the other Kiriakises are beyond stressed out,  waiting to hear what’s gonna happen with Sarah’s treatment–

Mm, I know it can’t be easy, all that waiting and hoping,  not knowing if she’s gonna walk again.

Exactly.  So I thought maybe you and I could distract ourselves  with watching the greatest show on Earth…

Hey.

And these…

Ooh! Are these for me?

A yummy–just one. A yummy cupcake.  It was on your doorstep. I got one too.

Oh, nice. Who sent them?

Well, actually, the card didn’t specifically say.  It just said, “From your ‘B&S’ family.”

Mm.

Personally,  I think they’re from our head writer.  See, he has a sweet tooth  to beat the band, I’ll tell you.

Huh. Now, how would you know that?

Well, I might have helped him finish off  Johnny’s birthday cake after that disastrous party.  And also, have you noticed how many times  desserts are mentioned in the upcoming scripts?

Oh, yeah.

And I think it’s because he’s lonely,  you know, lovesick.  And you know how it is when your heart is aching  and you just want to drown your sorrows  in all the sweetest things you can get your hands on.

Huh, huh.

And I just bet you  that’s what Leo’s doing right this minute.

[groans]  [soft music]

Buenos dias, Papi.

[both chuckle]  [soft orchestration]  announcer: Like sands through the hourglass,  so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[dramatic music]

Leonardo,  tienes la sonrisa de un ángel  y el cuerpo du un dios…  pero la mente del diablo.  [laughter]

What?  I hope that wasn’t your grocery list.

Oh, come on. You speak a little Spanish.  See if you can translate.

OK.  So “tienes” is “you have”…

Mm.

The what de un angel?

“La sonrisa,” “the smile.”  You have the smile of an angel.

[laughs]

Mm-hmm. The body of a God.

OK.  “Pero la mente del diablo.”  [gasps] “The mind of a devil”?

Muy bien.

Gracias,Javier.  Wow, that is the loveliest thing  anyone has ever said to me.  Hold on.  [inhales sharply] OK.  Just needed to make sure I wasn’t dreaming.

Definitely not.  And last night was very real too,  not to mention pretty crazy.

Pretty crazy.

Should we compare notes?  What do you remember?  [laughter]

Well, we shut down Small Bar…

Mm-hmm.

Came back here for a nightcap,  and then the rest gets a little hazy for me.

Well, maybe I can refresh your memory.

I would be ever so grateful.

So one minute, we were talking,  and then the next, we were…  doing something like this.

I mean, if Leo sent the cupcakes,  why would he be so secretive?  You know, wouldn’t he want all of us to know  how thoughtful he was, right?

[laughs] That’s true.  He does love people fawning all over him.

Exactly, he’d be wanting us all to be thanking him  and giving him praises and props  because of how generous he is, you know?

He’d be eating that up with a spoon, for sure.  Well, maybe it’s from our producers.

Could be.  But why would they send cupcakes anonymously?

Hmm. You’re right.  Come to think of it, I know they’re on a budget and all,  but why wouldn’t they spring for the whole cake, right?

Right?

Hmm.

“Your ‘B&S’ family.”  You know, I am gonna call Abe  and see if he knows who sent this.  I mean, it could be anyone in the “B&S” family, right?

I’m sure that mystery will be solved at some point.

Yes, I’m sure. I’ll keep you posted.  [light music]

So, Joy, settling in OK?  I know that room’s on the small side.

Compared to a New York studio, it’s a palace.

Well, then I’m grateful for the comparison.  And my grandson, treating you well on the set, I hope.

Sure is.  Yeah, yeah, Johnny– Johnny’s been great.  He’s the best.

I’m the worst, you know?  And nothing that you are gonna say  is gonna make me feel any less guilty  about what I did with Joy.

Johnny, Johnny, you made a mistake  but only because you believed Chanel cheated on you.

Yeah, which she didn’t, by the way.

But you didn’t know that.  Look, you can’t keep beating yourself up like this.  [dramatic music]

Well, at least I don’t have to do it on my own anymore.  The universe has given me plenty of help with that.

What do you mean?

Chanel invited Joy over for dinner last night.

Oh, dear.

Yeah.

That must have been awkward for you.

Most uncomfortable meal of my life.

Hmm.

Damn it, Dad, there’s got to be a way out of this.

Well, it’s certainly not going to be  by you walking around acting like you  just lost your best friend.  Johnny, you keep wearing your guilt on your sleeve like this,  and Chanel is going to know something is up.

Would that be so bad?  I–I wish this was just all out in the open.  I hate keeping this from her.  I promised Joy I wouldn’t say anything,  and I don’t want to put her job in jeopardy.

And what about your job?  You’re putting that at risk as well.  For God’s sake, Johnny, keep your mouth shut.  Chanel does not need to know about any of this.

[sighs]

Chanel doesn’t need to know about what?

[chuckles]

What’s going on?  What shouldn’t Chanel know?

Johnny and I were having a discussion about your mother.  Paulina and I had a rather lively disagreement yesterday  about a case that I declined to prosecute.

Oh, well, I’m sure you had your reasons.

I did. I did.  But your mother is family, and…  I know there have been troubles on set,  namely my son behaving like a world-class idiot,  and I didn’t want to add to your worries.  So rest assured, I will repair the damage with Madam Mayor.

OK. Thank you. I’m not worried about it.

Good, good, and I don’t want you to worry  about your husband either,  because even though he behaved abysmally,  I’m sure, performing several acts of chivalry  and declaring his undying love for you,  my temporarily thoughtless son  will eventually earn your forgiveness, hmm?

Well, he’s getting there.

Good, good, good.  Well, then I will leave you two alone  so he can continue working.  Good luck, Johnny.

Yeah, thank you, Dad.

Make me proud.

Thank you.

All right.

[sighs]  So I–I love what you did with the cupcakes.

What cupcakes?

You mean those aren’t from Sweet Bits?

No.  No, I have no idea where they came from.  It’s too bad there’s only two of them.

Why?

Oh, because I invited Joy over to watch  the “Body & Soul” premiere with us.  [tense music]

[light music]

Sorry. Sorry.  I should have silenced my phone.

[laughs] No worries.

Everything all right?

I just missed a text.  It was Chanel, actually.  She invited me over to watch “Body & Soul”  with her and Johnny.

Well, that sounds like fun.

Yeah.  Well, you know, it’s probably just a pity invitation.

Come on, they wouldn’t have asked  if they didn’t want you there, right?

Yeah.

So you didn’t send the cupcake.  Neither did Paulina or Chanel.

Well, you know, Paulina thinks that maybe  someone in the cast sent it.

Well, it’s kind of strange, though,  that no one wants to take credit for it, right?  Oh, well.  Anyway, are you ready for the premiere?

Oh, yes. I’m just–I’m really excited.  Hey, you know, if you and Roman aren’t doing anything,  you can come and join us.

Well, looks like the breakfast crowd  has almost cleared out, so that would be fabulous.  And I have to admit, I’d probably be a lot less nervous  if we were all together  watching this first riveting episode.  [soft music]

Stay for breakfast.

I wish I could, but I’m supposed to be at work.  Oh, three texts from Gabi and two missed calls.  I got to get going.

Ay, da, da, da, da.  Today’s the premiere of my show, come on.

Oh, that’s right, tour telenovela.

Well, we call it a soap opera, but yes.  And it’s one of the first things I’ve done in my life  that I’m really proud of.  It would be nice to share it with someone I…  like.

Well, I like you too, Leo.

And you know what?

Hmm?

Screw it. I’m gonna stay.

Yeah? What about Gabi?

Mm-hmm.

[sighs]  I love my cousin, but, man, is she frugal.  Oh, God.  She’s barely paying me above minimum wage  to be at her beck and call for -.

That’s not right. You need to ask for a raise.

I mean, maybe at some point, but in the meantime,  I’ve got to find another gig to make ends meet.  But as for today, I’m just gonna be late.

What are you gonna tell Gabi?

I’ll just tell her that…  something suddenly came up,  which is not a lie.

It’s not a lie.

[laughs]

Well, whoever sent these cupcakes, classy move.  Extra points for chocolate.

Oh, wait, no, no!  Ooh. Alex, you can’t eat that.

Why not?

[sighs]

Bonnie, if you’re worried about my physique,  I promise you, I’m gonna hit an extra  minutes  on the treadmill, guaranteed.

Oh, for heaven’s sake, it’s not like  I’m not looking out for your abs or anything.  It’s just–  mm.

Just what?

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but what if it’s poisoned?  [dramatic music]

You think somebody poisoned the cupcakes?

It’s possible, isn’t it?

Who the hell would do that, Bonnie?

[laughs] A sick, twisted individual,  of which, unfortunately, there are plenty in this world.

Yeah, that’s for sure.  [dramatic music]

What if it’s Hattie Adams?

Hattie?

Yeah.  The card said, “From your ‘B&S’ family.”  She was a part of that “B&S” family.  And she was furious when she found out  she was getting killed off instead of me.  And remember, she put a curse on the show  before she walked off the set.  This could be it!

Poisoned cupcakes?

Stranger things have happened.

Mm.

Remember the Great Biscuit Massacre of ?

Yeah, I highly doubt that history’s  gonna repeat itself again this year, Bonnie.

Well, you can’t be too sure, can you?

Oh, God.

No.

Oh, come–

No! No, no, no.  Better to be safe than sorry.

[scoffs]

OK, we made it. [laughs]

You did. You did. And welcome.  Make yourselves at home here.

[chuckles] And help yourself to some snacks.  Now, we have nuts and chips and, oh, of course,  popcorn to nibble on during the show.

Ooh, OK, so I brought some champagne for later.

Ooh! How wonderful!  Oh!  Oh, and then, of course,  we have the “Body & Soul” cupcake we can all share.

Well, I got Katie’s waiting for me  back at the bar since she’s not big on sweets,  so you guys should have that one.

Oh, no, no, no, no, not me.  I got to watch my sugar, unfortunately.  Besides, it was meant for Abraham,  the other exec producer of the show.  [laughter]  Oh, so here you go, darling.  You’ve been patiently waiting to indulge.

Well, you don’t have to ask me twice.

[chuckles]

Now, let’s see here.

Mm!

Whoa! [laughs]  Oh, how is it?

Mm.  Sublime. [laughs]  You know, I feel guilty, though.

What? What’s to feel guilty–

No, I have all this cupcake, and…  I’m the only one who gets to eat it.

Oh, no. What’s to feel guilty about?  Come on, Abraham.  You should be rewarded for all your hard work  on what I know is just going to be  the most successful soap opera in television history.

Hear, hear. [laughter]

So you go on. You go on.  You eat that cupcake, baby.  [laughs] No guilt.

No guilt.

No guilt.

Don’t have to ask me twice.

Oh. [laughs]

Mmm.

Mmm-mmm-mmm.

Et voilà.  Or should I say y mira eso?

That works very well, and this looks very good.

Good, we’ve got some egg white omelets,  the freshest of fruit salads, turkey sausage, and–  huh, cupcake?

Wrong room?

No, it’s got the show’s logo on it.  Oh, it must be to celebrate the premiere.

Ooh, speaking of which, is there anything  I should know before we watch?

Let’s see.  Well, the show aired for years on another network  before it moved to streaming.  There’s -some-odd characters, four main families,  and  years of living, loving, lying.  [laughter]

And you write for all of those characters,  all the living, loving, lying?

Behold.  Everything that will befall the citizens of Pineview  for the next three months is resting in this very laptop,  waiting for me to bring it to life.  All the drama, the intrigue, the romance.

Wow, I bet your fans would kill to see what’s on there.

Mm, maybe.  But if they did, they’d probably lose interest.  I mean, what’s the point in watching  if you already know what’s going to happen?  I think that the excitement  comes from the anticipation, right?  The waiting, the wondering.  Is the secret gonna be revealed?  Is that character that you love to hate  finally gonna see their comeuppance?  That kind of thing.

So you’re really good at keeping secrets, huh?

Well, I had to sign a nondisclosure,  swear on the lives of my unborn children,  and take a blood oath that the information  stored on that laptop is never going  to fall into the wrong hands.

Wow.

Mm-hmm.

Look at you, Mr. Big Deal.  I am impressed.

As well you should be.  Aren’t you glad you stayed?

Very.

[sighs]  I would say let’s eat, but…  suddenly I’m not very hungry.

Me neither.  I mean, not for food, anyway.

You invited Joy over.  Why–why–why would you do that?

Well, to be nice.  I mean, come on, why are you reacting like this?  Don’t you like her?

No, yeah, I do, of course.  I like her just fine.  It’s just, we–we had dinner with her last night, you know,  and I was kind of hoping that you and I  could watch the premiere together, you know,  just–just the two of us, you know, in bed.

Mm-hmm, yeah, well, that sounds really nice…

Mm-hmm.

And we can get into bed,  just the two of us,  when we go to sleep, all right?  But it’s too late now because I’ve already invited her.

So just uninvite her.

What? No.  Come on, Johnny, have a heart, OK?  She said she had nothing to do on her day off.

I’m sure she can figure something out.  Just–you can text her.  Explain that, you know, it’s just–  it’s not gonna work out.

Well, look who I found on my way out the door.

You know, I think this get-together  could use a little something,  something to make it a little more festive.

Oh, I bet some cupcakes  would make it a little bit more festive.

Stop! Stop! Shh!

Ah.

You’ll thank me later.

OK.

We could use a party mix, though.  What you got?

I got some, like, peanuts and some oat milk yogurt.

Just the peanuts.

All right. Coming right up.

[mouthing words]  You know, I’m thinking maybe we could invite  Stephanie to this watch party.  You know, get her to come over, knock on her door?

Yeah, I don’t think that’s such a great idea, Bonnie.  We’re supposed to be keeping our distance right now  from each other, remember?

Yeah, but I thought that was only at work.  I mean, besides, I could be your chaperone.  I could make sure you keep your hands to yourself.

Oh.

No patty fingers.

[clears throat]  Thank you, but I think a little space right now  is exactly what both Stephanie and I need.  Plus, she’s probably doing a bunch of press  right now anyway.

Fine. Fine.  If you think it’s best, whatever.

Mm.  [dramatic music]

All right, come on, come on.  Let’s all get comfy before “Body & Soul” starts.  Hey, you, Mr. Director,  what are you doing all the way over there?  You can barely see the screen.

No, I just– I didn’t want to–  I didn’t want to crowd you guys, so…

What? No, there’s plenty of room.  Come on. Sit right here.

OK. OK.  Yeah.  Excuse me. All right.

Well, I wish I could stay,  but I’m looking forward to watching “B&S” when I get home.

Yeah, right.

I will!

Yeah.

[laughs]

Also, is no one going to partake  in the celebratory “Body & Soul” cupcakes?

You know what?  You can take mine because I have love scenes coming up,  so there’s not gonna be any sweets for me for a while.  Unless you want mine, Joy.

No, thanks.  I have love scenes coming up too, so…

OK, then.  Well, if no one wants this one–

All yours.

All righty, then.  Well, this certainly beats the hell out of the protein bar  I was going to grab for breakfast,  so thank you very much.

Mm-hmm.

Oh, and congratulations, everyone.

Thank you, EJ.

But one of the… [clears throat]  Benefits of being behind the camera, right?

Mm-hmm, yup.  You know what? You go for it, all right?  I’m going to live vicariously through you.  Probably you are too, right, Joy?

Right. [laughter]

Mmm.  Mmm.

[laughs]

Good.

[sighs]  You’re not eating?

No, you know what?  I feel like I still have butterflies.  I–you know, I’ve seen the dailies.  I mean, the show’s great.

Of course–of course you would be nervous  seeing it all put together.  Oh, but, Abraham, this was your labor of love,  yours and Kate’s, and you want it to be wonderful.

And it will be.

Mm-hmm. Of course it will be.  And no matter what, whether “Body & Soul”  is a big hit or not, look at what you two have accomplished.  You found a writer.  You got the rights, a director, actors.

You and Katie pulled all the pieces together.

Mm-hmm, and in Salem, no less,  an entertainment desert.

Well, no longer because of what you two did.  You brought jobs here.  You basically created a whole new industry in this town.

Mm-hmm.  So you ought to be pretty proud of yourselves.

Well, I think we are. Aren’t we, Abe?

Yeah, definitely. [laughter]

Abe, we have come a long way from chasing down criminals  on patrol, haven’t we, partner?

[laughs] Yes, we have.

All right.  To Abraham and Kate.

Mm-hmm. And “Body & Soul.”  Long may it live.

Oh, long may it live.

Yes!  [laughs]

There you go.  Yes. Yes.

Oh, and just so you know, I already have  my dress all picked out for the Daytime Emmys.

What?

Oh.

[chuckles] Mm-hmm.

[chuckles]

What are you doing?

I’m trying to cue up your show.

There’s a TV right here.

Yeah, but with a screen right here,  I thought we could have a more intimate viewing experience.  I guess I’m underdressed for the occasion, huh?

No, you’re dressed perfectly.  I just wanted to make it feel like I was, I don’t know,  attending a premiere or something.  Do I look like a complete dork?

No, you look great.  Now, get over here.

OK.

It’s almost time.

Coming, coming, coming.  [sighs]

And I think you should do the honors.

OK. Here we go.  In , , .  [upbeat music playing]

True love is the gift God has given  which heart to heart and mind to mind  in body and in soul can bind.

* This is love *

“Body & Soul.”  [upbeat music playing]

[laughs] OMG, Alex.  I have goose bumps!  Ooh, that first episode! Wow!  It was better than expected!

Bonnie, you were amazing.

Oh, you really think so?

Oh, my God, I know so. Are you kidding me?  Your reaction when Kassandra finds out  that she was dying from a disfiguring disease?  You could see the pain in your eyes.

Oh. [chuckles]  You didn’t think it was, you know, too much,  a little hammy?

No, not at all. You kidding me?  You are an incredibly talented actress.  Really.

Alex, thank you.  That means so much to me coming from you  because I think you’re the talented actor.

Aw.

No, seriously.  I swear to God, in act three, you had me crying.  And then in act four, you had me laughing my patootie off.  Sir, you’ve got it all going on.

Oh, thank you.

You do.

Thank you, Bonnie. Thank you.  But let’s just hope the viewers think that we all  got it going on so they keep tuning in, huh?

[laughs] Fingers and toes crossed.

Mm-hmm.

Well, I better get going.  I got to learn my lines for next week.

Ah, all right.  Well, thank you for coming by  and watching the show with me.

Oh, honey.

A lot more fun than all by myself.

Ooh, thanks for having me, darling.

My pleasure.

[chuckles]  [sighs] And, you know, I may just walk home.

Hmm.

Hmm.  Think I’ll get recognized?  Maybe ask for my autograph?

Honestly…  I think you need to keep one of these with you just in case.

[laughs] You’re so cute.  Like a button, you are.  So long, hotsy-totsy.

So long.

[chuckles]  [dramatic music]

[laughs] Wow.  That was great.

Have to say, I do agree.

Oh, as would I. And wonderful writing.  Oh, and the cast.  I can’t believe the cast you put together.  I mean, now, OK, I may be a little bit biased,  but, oh, I’m so proud of my Chanel!  Oh, I mean, that girl, she lights up a screen  the same way she lights up a room.

She does. She does.

Mm-hmm.

Abe, I didn’t think we could do it at times, but we did.  We did it.

[laughs] Yes.

Well, congratulations to both of you.

And I got to say, I only wish we could,  you know, binge-watch, because I can’t wait  to find out what happens next.

And that is exactly the reaction we want  from people all across the country.  [laughter]

Wow.  Great first episode, right?

Yeah, it was.

And, Chanel, you–  you were great.

Oh, well, thank you so much.  I couldn’t have done it without my patient  and understanding director.

Well, you can’t bring out what isn’t already there.

You know, I think I’ve met everyone from today’s episode,  but I don’t think I met the actress who played Charlemagne.

Oh, yeah, that would be Hattie Adams.

Yeah.

What? What happened to her?

Well, she–she gave the producers this crazy ultimatum,  and so they fired her.

Yeah, they killed her off, actually,  and she was not happy about it.  Well, that’s putting it too lightly.  She actually–she went crazy.

What? What do you mean?

Well, she was determined to get back at everyone  for letting her go.  And then when she left, she announced that she was  putting a curse on the show, so…

What kind of curse?

The kind where you make sure terrible things happen  to everyone who wronged you.

Well, I mean, you don’t believe that she really  has that kind of power, right?

Well, I mean, your birthday party  did happen after that.

True.

[clears throat]

Huh.

You know, I ought to go. [chuckles]  I–I got some lines to learn, and I got to hit up my mom.  I told her I’d give her a call after the episode, so…

Oh, OK. Well, thank you for coming.  This was fun. We should do it again sometime.

Yeah, yeah, I’ll– I’ll see you at work.

OK.

Well, that was kind of weird, right,  the way she was just acting?

No. How–how so?

Well, I mean, she just–  she left really abruptly.  Would you just go make sure she’s OK?  For me?

So what did you think? And be honest.  I want the naked, unadulterated truth.

About?

About? About “Body & Soul.”

I told you, your body’s a ten,  but we’re leaving your soul out of it.

Boy, my show, “Body & Soul.”

It was wild.  Drama, intrigue, hot bodies.  I loved it.

You’re not just saying that?  Because you know my heart would suffer irreparable damage  if you said even the slightest–

Hey, of course I’m not saying that.  I think you’re a genius, Leonardo Stark.

Wow.  Oh, my God.  I feel seen for, like, the first time in my entire life.

Yeah, and my life will come to a screeching halt  if I don’t get to work.  Death by cousin.  But I had a really great time, Leo.

Yeah, me too.  And thank you for staying and celebrating my show with me.

It was my absolute pleasure.  I’m looking forward to doing it again.

Yeah, we will.  And, you know,  well, just spending time with you, I–  I haven’t felt like this in–  in a really long time.

I don’t think that I’ve felt this way, psh, ever.  Just opening up to you last night about losing my mom,  it was–  I’ve never really talked to anybody about that before,  in that way.  It really helped.

Well, I’m glad you were able to do that.  And while I am very sorry for your loss,  you said it was the thing that brought you to Salem,  so I’m certainly not sorry about that.

I’ll see you soon, guapo.

Mm-hmm.

[chuckles]

Sorry!  That was so awkward!

Awkward? It was torture.  Why would you have accepted Chanel’s invitation?

Because I couldn’t think of a way out  without making it worse.

Yeah, OK, I get it.  But, Joy, we cannot keep doing this.  Do you have any idea what it’s like for me,  sitting in between you two?  Every single day that I keep lying to Chanel,  I feel like an even bigger heel.

You’re not gonna say anything to her, right?  You promised.

Yeah, I know what I promised.  OK, it’s the promises that I made to Chanel that I broke.  That’s what’s killing me.  I don’t know how I’m ever gonna make this right with her.  [dramatic music]

[light music]

Oh! What the hell?

I have a bone to pick with you, mister.

Well, you didn’t have to take it out  on that poor, defenseless cupcake.  And if we’re revisiting my dropping the charges  against Cat Greene–

That is a conversation that can be picked up later.  But for now, since we’re not on the city’s dime,  there’s a personal matter that we need to discuss.

I’m not– I’m not sure I know–

That would be your son calling  my daughter a cheating slut.

Oh, that.

Yes, that.

[clears throat]  Well, if I may speak for my son,  he feels awful about what happened.  He knows–he knows that he has screwed up,  and he wants nothing more than to fix this  but with Chanel.  So maybe we should stay out of it.

[sighs]

Everything all right with Joy?

Yeah, yeah, she just–you know,  she was just eager to get home and prep for tomorrow’s shoot,  like she said.

Oh, OK.  Well, thank you for checking.

You too, huh?

Oh, looking over my scenes for tomorrow,  yeah.  Oh, wow, it’s actually crazy.  I forgot how much goes back to the first episode.

What do you mean?

Well, if Arrow had just  told Faith the truth from the very beginning,  then it just would have saved them both  a lot of heartache, you know?  So I totally get where Faith is coming from.  I mean, the crime is not even as bad as the cover-up  in this case.  It’s worse.  It’s–it’s much worse.  [dramatic music]

[groans]  [exhales heavily]  [chuckles]  Oh.

Poisoned cupcakes, huh?  [laughs]  Come on.  Bonnie’s just being a little paranoid.  It is a damn shame to let these things go to waste.

Mmm.

[sighs]

Oh.  Well, that’s– that’s very reassuring, yes.  Yes.  Oh, that’s wonderful.  Wonderful news.  No, I’ll pass that along.  Yeah. Well, you take care, huh?  Bye.

OK, what?

[laughs]

What did the network say?

Well, they didn’t want to pass any information on  about the numbers, but they said they’re quite pleased.

Quite pleased?

Mm-hmm.

No paraphrasing.

No, that was right from the source.  [laughter]

Oh, my God!  We did it!  Abe, we’re a hit!  So much for the curse of Hattie Adams.

[laughs]

Oh, my God!  Abe?

[groans]

Are you all right?

[groans]

Abe.

[groaning]

No! Whoa, whoa, whoa.

[retching]  Oh.

[knock at door]

Back so soon?

Oh.

Oh, it’s you.

[chuckles] I hope I’m not interrupting anything.  I just had to come over and see what you thought.  You watched the show, right?

Yeah, of course I did.  I thought it was brilliant and fabulous.  And you, my dear, must already have a gazillion fans  on social media wanting to see more  of that gorgeous punim of yours.

Really? You think so?

Yes, for sure.  I was just gonna go online and see  what people were saying.  [ominous music]  What the–

What is it? What’s wrong?

Lady Whistleblower is back?

I thought you were Lady Whistleblower.

So did I.

Well, what does she say, whoever she is?

“Lady W. here.  “I’ve been gone for a spell, but now I’m back.  “And get comfortable, dear reader,  “for I have returned to my rightful position  “as the all-seeing, all-knowing frenemy to all.  “And, darlings, Lady W. just caught  “the premiere of ‘Body & Soul,’ and, boy, do I have opinions.  “The premiere left me on the edge of my seat.  “You too? Dying to know what happens next?  “Well, gird your loins, my angels,  because Lady Whistleblower’s got the scoop.”  What the–

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Paulina is in the town square calling EJ on the phone to question him releasing Cat Green after what she did to his family. EJ responds that he has his reasons. Paulina demands EJ come to her office first thing tomorrow and hangs up. Kristen then walks in behind EJ and questions why he let the impostor go.

Kayla is at the hospital on the phone with Steve, asking why Chad had EJ drop the charges against Cat. Kayla says she’s sure he’ll get to the bottom of it and says she’s just finishing up as she hangs up. Xander then arrives and tells Kayla that she can’t leave until she helps Sarah walk again as he presents her with the serum.

Ava works at the Bistro. Brady comes in and greets her, saying he just wanted to shoot the breeze with her. Ava says she’s ready for a break as they sit together. Ava reminds Brady that last time they shot the breeze it was about Tate and Sophia. Brady jokes that he doesn’t want to violate Tate’s privacy. Ava assures he can trust her since they care about Tate and Sophia, so she knows that she can trust him with what she’s going to divulge to him. Ava then stops and says she doesn’t want to violate Sophia’s trust either but Brady reveals that he already knows that Tate and Sophia have taken their relationship to the next level.

Tate and Sophia kiss in bed as they talk about how into each other they are until Tate accidentally calls her Holly.

Holly goes to the Kiriakis Mansion and sits sadly in the living room as she thinks back to Tate telling her that he slept with Sophia.

Tate claims he didn’t call Sophia anything but Sophia argues that he said Holly’s name

Ava jokes about Brady saying in a classy way that Tate and Sophia took their relationship to the next level. Ava says she hopes things work out between them because Sophia is clearly smitten with Tate, so she hopes Tate is equally as much with her. Brady decides to conclude the conversation, but Ava insists that she hopes Tate is over Holly but Brady doesn’t respond to and instead orders a club soda which Ava goes to get him.

Tate swears that he doesn’t remember calling Sophia, Holly. Sophia questions him and says she knows what she heard. Sophia argues that means that even though he’s in bed with her, he’s thinking about Holly.

Maggie joins Holly in the living room and says she’s glad she’s there because she has some wonderful news. Maggie then announces that Kristen agreed to give Sarah the serum.

Sarah and Xander tell Kayla about the serum at the hospital. Sarah admits she has no idea about the dosage and how to administer it. Xander tells Kayla that Sarah trusts her to be the one to get her out of the wheelchair and walking again.

Tate tells Sophia that he must have said Holly if she heard it. Sophia complains about him saying another girl’s name while in bed with her. Tate says he feels awful and embarrassed. Tate talks about when he and Holly broke up, she took it really hard so he’s been thinking about her but it has nothing to do with how he feels about Sophia. Tate suggests they forget about everyone else and focus on them. Sophia complains that she was focused on them but he was focused on Holly. Tate says he’s so sorry. Sophia argues that he was just dying to have sex tonight while wishing he got back with Holly.

Ava brings Brady his club soda and says she’ll finish work in the morning. Brady says he does have some good news to share with her which Ava says she could use. Brady reminds Ava that he told her that Kristen was going to do something huge for Sarah. Ava recalls being surprised that Kristen would do anything huge for anyone that wasn’t horrible and destructive. Brady says it appears that Kristen is actually going through with it and reveals that there’s a serum that could potentially cure Sarah’s paralysis. Brady says he’s hoping and praying that Sarah will be able to walk very soon. Ava calls that amazing but she doesn’t see Kristen doing something like that without strings. Brady then admits there are strings, explaining that when Kristen agreed to turn over the serum, he didn’t know she had asked for Titan in return which shocks Ava. Brady says that Kristen demanded Xander give her control of his father’s company. Ava says that’s more like the cold-hearted Kristen they know and asks if Xander made the deal. Brady then reveals he didn’t have to because Kristen changed her mind about it. Ava questions why she would do that. Brady admits it’s because he asked her to.

EJ assures Kristen that he has the Cat Green situation well in hand. Kristen hopes so as she doesn’t understand how anyone believed she was Abigail. Kristen says she knew she was an impostor the first time she stepped foot in the house. EJ jokes about her being a detective and suggests she apply to the police department. Kristen says she’s very happy in her current position. EJ says he hears that she might not have that position for long after botching the Titan takeover. EJ asks how Kristen screwed this one up.

Holly tells Maggie that she thought Kristen was only willing to give the serum if Xander gave her Titan. Maggie confirms that was the original deal but she’s happy to report that Titan is still Xander’s because Brady somehow convinced Kristen to have a change of heart. They joke about Kristen having a heart. Maggie guesses this time Kristen listened to her better angels and says that Xander and Sarah are talking to Kayla now about the serum.

Sarah and Xander tell Kayla what they know about the serum. Kayla questions trusting Kristen and Dr. Rolf. Sarah reveals that Dr. Rolf did leave some instructions, so she hopes they can figure out what to do next from the notes.

Kristen tells EJ that she didn’t botch anything, but there was an unexpected complication which EJ questions. Kristen explains that Philip showed up and threatened to tie up the deals for Titan in court so she decided it wasn’t worth the trouble and claims she simply chose to give Sarah the serum with no strings. EJ questions why she would do that since even without handing over Titan, Xander would’ve paid for it. EJ asks why she would just give up her advantage. Kristen then informs EJ that she did it for love.

Ava questions Brady saying that Kristen gave Sarah and Xander the serum just because Brady told her to and asks what the catch is. Brady then admits that he told Kristen that if she forced Xander to give over Titan in exchange for the serum, then she could kiss any chance of them getting back together goodbye which Ava laughs at, realizing that Kristen only did the right thing because she’s still crazy about Brady and he gave her hope that they might get back together. Brady admits it was a little manipulative but very effective. Ava wonders if it was a total manipulation or if there’s a chance for Brady and Kristen. Ava brings up that they have a daughter together and asks if there’s any chance of them actually getting back together.

Kayla says from what she sees from the notes, Dr. Rolf intended it to be a 10% solution but there’s nothing about diluting it with saline, so she’s not clear on the rate. Xander asks if any of this means if they know how to use it. Sarah explains that they think the cure could be given through an IV but it might take several hours and that’s a problem because the serum has to be injected directly in to her spine. Kayla points out that it carries significant risk and she’s not sure she’s comfortable with it.

Holly tells Maggie that she hopes Sarah is able to walk again. Maggie asks Holly what’s happening in her life. Holly feels weird to talk about her own life with all that’s going on. Maggie says she can tell Holly is a bit down. Holly admits her break up with Tate has been hard. Maggie understands she cared about him very much. Holly talks about going through Brady’s briefcase and then just apologizing, thinking everything would be okay. Maggie points out they were very close. Holly remarks that she didn’t count on an obstacle getting in the way and ruining everything which is Sophia.

Sophia argues that she told Tate that she only wanted to be with him if she was the only one and he said she was, but he was obviously lying. Tate argues that he wasn’t. Sophia complains that Tate wanted to be honorable by not dumping her right after sleeping with her and doesn’t see the honor in being with someone when he really wants to be with someone else. Tate admits he didn’t want to hurt her and that he’s trying to do the right thing but he doesn’t know what that is. Sophia says it’s a simple question and asks who Tate wants to be with, her or Holly?

Brady knows it’s insane to think he and Kristen could have a future together with their history, but says the one reason he doesn’t completely rule it out is their daughter. Brady says it would mean the world for Rachel to have her parents together as a family again, but his head tells him to run the other direction and not look back. Ava asks what his heart tells him. Brady responds that his heart is with his daughter as he just wants her to be happy. Brady talks about Rachel hating it when he and Kristen fight. Ava responds that if Brady wants Rachel to be happy, that means he might get back together with Kristen. Brady says he’s obviously conflicted about it, but Kristen knows it’s highly unlikely they could ever work it out and he’s made no promises. Ava thinks he’s being naïve as he may think he made no promises to Kristen, but it’s possible that she heard what she wanted to hear.

EJ sits with Kristen and goes over Kristen giving away the miracle cure because Brady asked her to, despite the fact that he promised nothing in return. Kristen claims that Brady told her that the only way they could get back together is if she helped Sarah walk again. EJ wants to be clear on the language of this deal and asks if he’s correct to assume that Brady offered no guarantees that he would enter a romantic relationship with her. Kristen asks if she should’ve had Brady sign a blood oath. EJ argues that she should’ve at least secured a promise of a future with Brady, but she instead let him dangle a carrot in front of her and she dropped everything else to chase after it. EJ declares that Kristen failed negotiating 101 by giving up the miracle cure and ending up with nothing.

Xander asks why injecting the serum in to Sarah’s spine would be risky. Sarah explains that there’s still swelling around her spine while Kayla adds that the serum is an unknown quantity so it could make the swelling worse and Sarah’s condition could become irreversible. Xander recalls Kayla saying initially that there was a chance Sarah could recover without treatment, but it doesn’t look like that’s happening so he questions if the serum could really make it worse. Kayla says they just don’t know. Kayla admits that Dr. Rolf is a brilliant scientist while Sarah acknowledges that it’s an untested treatment. Kayla repeats that there are significant risks here. Xander tells Sarah that he will love her and see that they live their best lives together regardless of what she chooses. Sarah brings up Victoria taking her first steps soon, so she is willing to take this chance if it means she can be standing with her and holding her hand. Xander tells Kayla that they know the risks while Sarah says they also know the possible miraculous rewards, so Sarah asks Kayla to give her the serum.

Sophia tells Tate to forget about answering because the look on his face tells her all she needs to know. Sophia argues that Tate doesn’t have the guts to admit it so he can stay silent and tell himself he did the right thing. Sophia declares that he doesn’t even have to feel guilty about dumping her because she’s dumping him. Tate tells her that he’s really sorry and didn’t intend for any of this to happen. Tate calls her great and says he really does like her. Sophia argues that isn’t enough as she doesn’t sleep with people she just likes. Sophia tells Tate to go be with who he really wants to be with in Holly. Sophia then warns that when Holly breaks his heart, not to come crying to her as she storms out.

Holly tells Maggie about how Tate said he wanted to be with her but he didn’t want to hurt Sophia just because she wants to get back together, so he wants to see where things go with Sophia. Maggie calls it admirable but she’s not happy that Holly got hurt in the process. Maggie then gets a text and says she has to get to the hospital. Holly offers to go with her but Maggie says she’ll check in with her later. Maggie tells her to take care as she exits.

Sophia goes to the Bistro and says she knows Ava’s about to close but she needed to see her. Ava sees she’s upset and tells her to sit down. Sophia cries that she feels like such a fool. Ava asks what happened and if it’s Tate. Sophia informs Ava that she and Tate are finished which Ava questions as she thought they took their relationship to the next level. Sophia confirms that they did but then when they went back to that level, he called her Holly in the middle of it.

Tate goes to the Kiriakis Mansion to see Holly, who questions what he’s doing there and guesses he doesn’t have plans with Sophia tonight. Tate admits that they did but they aren’t together anymore.

Kristen mocks EJ saying she failed negotation 101. EJ repeats that she gave away her end of the deal without anything in return as Brady has given her no reason to believe that they are ever getting back together. Kristen calls that his pessimistic take on it, but she’s certain that he will be proven wrong. Kristen questions where EJ’s negotiating skills have gotten him with Sami and Nicole. EJ tells her to stay on topic as they are talking about her deluding herself in to thinking Brady will take her back. EJ adds that now that Kristen has given Brady what he wants, he’d be shocked if Brady ever shows his face around her again. Brady then enters the room, so Kristen asks what EJ was saying.

Maggie goes to the hospital and tells Xander that she got Kayla’s text, so she asks what’s happening. Xander informs her that Kayla has agreed to administer Dr. Rolf’s serum which excites her. Xander adds that Sarah knows the risks and has decided to take the chance, so Kayla is preparing her now. Xander declares that Sarah may have come to the hospital in a wheelchair, but if everything goes right, she could be walking out. Maggie excitedly hugs Xander.

Kristen greets Brady and calls it a surprise. EJ gets a call from Paulina and exits the room to answer the cal. Kristen tells Brady she’s happy to see him. Brady says he can’t stay long. Kristen says she wanted to call him and tell him that she took Xander and Sarah to Dr. Rolf’s lab to figure out how to administer the serum. Brady admits he’s impressed with her doing the right thing. Brady then gives Rachel’s friendship bracelet to Kristen which she forgot in his car. Brady tells Kristen that it’s important that she understands that he’s grateful for what she’s doing for Sarah, but it doesn’t necessarily change anything between them and he can’t make any promises. Brady asks Kristen to tell Rachel that he loves her and will call her to say goodnight. Brady thanks her and then exits as EJ returns to ask how it went. EJ mocks that Brady came to tell her that he realized he can’t live without her.

Sophia tells Ava about how she called Tate on saying Holly’s name and Tate could barely say another word and couldn’t look her in the eye to say he wanted to be with her and not Holly, so she ended things and walked out. Ava commends her for getting out with her dignity. Sophia cries that she’s not sure she did as she feels so used and humiliated. Ava tells Sophia that Tate did this so it’s on him as he made her think he was over Holly when clearly he wasn’t. Ava asks how she left it. Sophia says she told Tate to go be with Holly, so he probably went running back to her as soon as she left. Ava hugs Sophia as she breaks down crying.

Holly questions Tate saying he and Sophia aren’t together anymore. Tate informs Holly that he made a really big mistake here and should’ve been more honest with Sophia and himself about what he wanted and what he was feeling. Tate adds that he also made a really big mistake with Holly. Tate says when Holly said she wanted to get back together, every part of him wanted to say yes but his head and heart were going in opposite directions, so he stupidly went with his head and what he thought was the right thing to do by staying with Sophia because they slept together. Tate feels terrible for hurting Sophia but says he should’ve known it wasn’t going to work because all he ever wanted was Holly. Tate then kisses Holly.

Kayla tells Xander, Sarah, and Maggie that she combined the serum with the agent and tested it in the lab so it was an exact match to Dr. Rolf’s notes which means their calculations were correct, so in theory it should work. Sarah says let’s see if it works in practice. Kayla mentions that they don’t have to do it tonight if Sarah is having second thoughts. Xander tells Sarah that he’s there for her on whatever she decides. Sarah decides to do it now.

EJ got chewed out by Paulina for dropping the charges against Cat. Kristen walked in the room and wondered why he let Cat go. He let her know that he had everything under control. EJ made fun of her for botching up the Titan deal. She said Philip came back and she decided it wasn’t much trouble. He found out that she gave Sarah the serum anyway because she’s in love. Brady went to the Bistro and ran into Ava. They had a strange conversation about Tate and Sophia’s sex lives. One thing led to another, and they talked about Kristen giving Sarah the serum. Ava thought there were strings attached to Kristen’s offer. Brady admitted that Kristen wanted Titan in exchange for the serum. Luckily, he talked her out of taking it. Ava thought it was funny that Kristen would do the right thing because she had feelings for him. Sophia ripped into Tate for calling her by Holly’s name. He was confused by her accusation and denied doing it. If he did that, it was because he felt bad about the way they broke up. He insisted that Holly had nothing to do with his feelings for her. Tate apologized for the mistake and wanted to make out again. Sophia put the brakes on their make out session and demanded to know if he wished to be back with Holly.

Xander gave Kayla the serum to use for Sarah. Kayla was apprehensive about using the serum. Sarah presented Kayla with Rolf’s instructions for it. They went over the instructions and realized the serum had to go through Sarah’s spine. Kayla warned them about the risks involved with the injection. Xander would love Sarah regardless of what she decided to do. Sarah knew how he felt, but she wanted to take the risk. Sophia got dressed because Tate didn’t convince her that he was over Holly. He’s trying to do the right thing, but he didn’t know what that was. Sophia asked him if he wanted her or Holly. The silence told her everything she needed to know. She decided to dump Tate. He said he liked her, but she didn’t sleep with people she liked. Frustrated, she told him to be with Holly. Sophia gave him a warning. If Holly broke his heart, she didn’t want him coming back to her. Brady admitted that Rachel was the reason why he would consider reuniting with Kristen. He knows that he should run away, but Rachel hated when they argued. Ava thought he was being naive if he didn’t think Kristen was hoping for a reunion.

Jada said she was flattered, but she wouldn’t take Rafe’s job. Paulina said the job didn’t belong to him. She told him it wasn’t personal, but she thought Jada was doing a good job. She said Stephanie almost got fired for sleeping with a coworker, but she might not be that lucky to get away with it. Her mother thought she ruined things and didn’t want him to tell the truth. If he told the truth, it would ruin things between him and Chanel. While they were talking, Chanel showed up and wondered what was going on. Joy lied and told her they had a disagreement about a scene. Johnny said he saw her point. Chanel asked if Joy wanted to run lines to which joy agreed.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Tate looks at a picture of him and Holly together. Sophia caught him looking at the picture. She noticed that he’s been acting funny since Holly’s been back. Tate assured her that he wouldn’t have sex with her and hook up with Holly. She didn’t want him staying with her out of obligation. To reassure her of his feelings, he decided to give her a kiss. He asked her if that felt like he wasn’t committed to her. The kiss changed her attitude towards him. She wanted to go to his room to show him how much she enjoyed the kiss. Holly ran into Aaron at the town square. He told her that his brother was arrested for trying to kill Chad. Aaron also revealed that the woman who pretended to be Abby was his sister. She was surprised to hear that news. Mark and Cat did what they had to do to get their mother back. Holly promised to be there for him. The teens changed the subject and talked about Tate and Sophia. Aaron confessed that he encouraged Tate to go after Sophia. She told him that Tate slept with Sophia. He felt responsible for what happened between them, but she assured him that it wasn’t his fault. Tate and Sophia began making out until he called out Holly’s name. JJ was upset that EJ dropped the charges against Cat. Cat walked in the living room and heard JJ ranting about her. Chad confessed that he was the one who asked EJ to drop the charges against her. JJ didn’t have any sympathy for Cat or her brother. He didn’t think they were any better than Clyde for what they put the family through. JJ accused Chad of destroying Abby’s memory. Chad assured him that he was trying to honor it by retrieving her remains. He informed JJ about the plan to use Cat as bait to lure Clyde out of hiding. JJ thought that was risky, but Cat was okay with it. Chad wanted him to keep it a secret, but JJ couldn’t do it. The brothers-in-law started arguing about it before JJ stormed off.

Rafe and Jada talked about her getting the promotion to commissioner. She didn’t know what to say about it. He wanted to congratulate her. Roman overheard them talking about the promotion. Jada got called away leaving Rafe and Roman alone. Roman was willing to listen to Rafe talk about his feelings about her promotion. He was proud of her, but he was angry that he lost his job. Rafe felt disrespected after putting his life on the line. Sighing, he decided to suck it up and deal with it. Roman suggested that he sue the city for not holding his job for him during his recuperation. Rafe wasn’t sure that was a good idea because of Jada. Roman asked him if he could be happy with her when he resented losing his job. Jada saw Gabi at the house. Gabi was preparing a celebratory dinner for Rafe. Jada let her know that she was asked to stay as the commissioner which shocked Gabi. Gabi knew her brother wasn’t happy about that decision. Jada wasn’t happy about it either. Gabi knew Jada was happy about being Salem’s first African American commissioner. She understood how it felt to compete with the person you love in the workplace. Jada would have wanted the position if Rafe wasn’t demoted. Gabi wouldn’t say anything, but she advised Jada to tell the truth. Rafe arrived home and found Jada in the kitchen. They talked about the situation they are in. She didn’t want the job to cause problems for them. He didn’t want that either so he decided to quit.

Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph

Tate is at home, looking at an old photo of he and Holly on his phone until there’s a knock at the door. Tate excitedly opens the door but seems surprised to see Sophia, so she asks if he was expecting someone else.

Holly walks through the town square and finds Aaron sitting at a table, so she joins him. Holly says she’s been thinking about him a lot recently and knows it must be a difficult time for him as she heard about Mark. Aaron bets all of Salem knows and confirms his brother was arrested for trying to kill Chad DiMera.

Chad makes a call from home to clear his calendar from the Spectator for the next few days. JJ then arrives and says for some unknown reason, Chad’s idiot brother dropped the charges against Cat Green. JJ declares that they need to find her to make sure she pays before she skips town. Cat then enters the room and tells JJ to call off the search party because she’s there.

Gabi goes home while finishing a call with Javi. Gabi mentions that she’s making tamales to celebrate Rafe’s return as police commissioner as he’s so excited to get back to work and she just wants tonight to be special for him.

At the Brady Pub, Jada assures Rafe that this isn’t what she wanted. Rafe says he knows but it’s clearly what Paulina wants and what she says, goes. Rafe guesses he should be lucky that she still wants him as a detective. Jada doesn’t know what to say. Rafe responds by congratulating her and hands back over the commissioner badge, saying it belongs to her now. Jada argues that this isn’t right because the badge belongs to him. Rafe says not anymore as he’s out and she’s in because she is now the Commissioner of the Salem police department. Jada tells Rafe that she’s so sorry but Rafe says there’s nothing to be sorry about as she’s a great cop and he’s glad Paulina knows that. Jada argues that Rafe is a great cop too and she’s not comfortable with this. Rafe says he is, but Jada questions how he could be, repeating that it’s not right. Rafe states that it’s what Paulina wants and Jada deserves the promotion as she worked hard for it. Jada then gets a call from the police station and says she’s on it. Jada tells Rafe that she’s sorry as duty calls. Rafe knows how many times he had to leave in the middle of the meal. Rafe reminds her not to forget her badge. Jada says she’ll see him at home and kisses him as she then exits the Pub. Roman comes over and tells Rafe that he’s sorry for overhearing their conversation about Jada taking over his job as commissioner. Roman says he heard Rafe says he’s fine with it but he knows it has to be tough if he wants to talk. Rafe says there’s nothing to talk about as it’s a done deal and he’s happy for Jada.

Tate tells Sophia that he wasn’t expecting anyone but he’s glad she’s there as he invites her in. Sophia says it feels like forever since they talked. Tate apologizes for being super busy with family stuff and studying. Sophia is relieved as she was worried he might be avoiding her. Tate questions why he would be avoiding her. Sophia informs him that she ran in to Holly, who said she wants him back, so she assumes that Tate felt the same way. Tate says he doesn’t and adds that he doesn’t know what Holly told her, but it’s over and they are not getting back together.

Holly tells Aaron that she keeps thinking back to running in to Mark in Paris and thinking it was just a weird coincidence. Aaron talks about Mark keeping a lot of big secrets. Holly says she’s really sorry. Aaron talks about being in shock that Mark was plotting the murder of someone, but he doesn’t know what he and Felicity are going to do if Mark goes to prison. Holly says she doesn’t know the details and asks if Mark was really working with the woman pretending to be Abigail. Aaron confirms that he was. Holly asks why since she doesn’t get the connection and questions how Mark even knew her. Aaron reveals that it turned out that woman is actually their sister.

JJ asks what the hell is wrong with Cat and argues that she has a lot of nerve to show up here. JJ tells Cat that Chad doesn’t want anything to do with her nor does anyone in his family. JJ wants Cat to suffer for what she did to them and calls her sadistic. Chad stops JJ and reveals that he’s the one who had EJ drop the charges, shocking JJ.

Sophia asks Tate if he and Holly are not getting back together. Tate assures he would’ve told her if they were. Sophia admits she’s really surprised since she knows Holly is really in to him and seemed determined to get him back. Sophia asks if it’s because she somehow found out that they slept together and that changed her mind, swearing that she didn’t hear it from her. Tate responds that he knows because he told her.

Holly questions Cat being Aaron’s sister. Aaron explains that she was horribly injured in the accident that killed his parents and he thought she was just recovering in some clinic but she had major plastic surgery and was running around two continents pretending to be Chad’s wife. Holly mentions being at the wedding and kind of playing a part and exposing Cat as an impostor. Aaron is surprised and questions how she did that. Holly explains that she overheard her on a phone call the night before and she said she was talking to Abigail’s brother JJ, but then JJ showed up to the wedding and he said they hadn’t spoken. Aaron realizes the person Cat was on the phone with was Mark. Holly says that little lie led to the big lie about who she really was finally came out. Holly still don’t get why Mark and Cat would do all of this. Aaron responds that they had a really good reason, noting it doesn’t excuse the horrible things they did. Holly asks what the reason was, so Aaron informs her that they did to save his mom. Holly thought his mom was dead. Aaron admits he did too.

JJ questions Chad wanting EJ to drop the charges against Cat and asks if he’s falling for Cat’s sob story about Clyde holding her mother hostage. Cat argues that it’s not a sob story but the truth and for all she knows, Clyde could have already killed her. JJ says he has no sympathy for them when they were both fine letting Chad be murdered so that her mother wouldn’t be. JJ argues that his niece and nephew would’ve been orphans and they didn’t give a damn. Cat promises that she didn’t know Mark was going to try to kill Chad. JJ questions why they should believe that. Cat asks what reason she has to lie now and says she was horrified by what Mark attempted to do. JJ argues that they were so desperate to hurt his entire family just to possibly save a member of her family. JJ complains that she’s not the victim and declares that she’s no better than Clyde. JJ asks if she has any idea what his family has been through since Abigail died. JJ tells Cat that Jennifer was so devastated when she lost Abigail that she went back to her addiction to opioids but she’s sober now and she was the one person who saw Cat for the lying fraud that she is. JJ questions Cat expecting him to give a damn about saving her mom when she didn’t give a damn about what she was doing to his mom, dad, or Chad. Cat insists that she did think about it a lot but she was thinking about her family and didn’t feel she had a choice. JJ argues that there’s always a choice. JJ tells Chad that it’s not his fault that Cat fooled him since he didn’t want to believe Abigail was dead, but questions helping her now and letting her get away with what she did. JJ says that is desecrating Abigail’s memory but Chad argues that the only reason he’s doing this is to honor Abigail.

Jada goes home while finishing a call to get ads to the Spectator about hiring new recruits as they are still very short staffed. Gabi tells Jada that she’s making tamales to celebrate Rafe’s return to work as police commissioner.

Rafe asks Roman why he wouldn’t be happy about Jada staying on in the top spot and says he’s looking forward to not dealing with the red tape and getting out to work some cases. Roman brings up that he was the Commissioner once as well so he knows what it’s like, but he also knows what it’s like to give that up. Roman says he doesn’t mean to tell Rafe what to do or how to react to this, but says he needs to be honest with himself because suppressing negative feelings is never a good thing. Rafe then admits that he is pretty damn angry about this whole thing and he’s not happy about any of it at all.

Gabi tells Jada how stir crazy Rafe has been while taking it easy and she knows he can’t wait to walk back in to the police station to let the officers know that their Commissioner is back. Gabi questions why Jada doesn’t seem happy about it. Jada then reveals that it’s not going to happen. Gabi thought the doctors cleared him to return to work. Jada clarifies that Paulina asked her to stay on as Commissioner while Rafe will be a detective again. Gabi complains about Rafe being demoted and says he must be furious. Jada says that Rafe said he’s okay with it. Gabi argues that she knows her brother and there is no way in hell that he’s okay with this.

Rafe repeats to Roman that he’s so not happy about this. Roman asks if it’s about the demotion or taking orders from his future wife. Rafe assures he has no problem taking orders from the woman he loves, bringing up how Hope was his boss, and says it’s more about the demotion and feeling disrespected after he put his life on the line for this job. Rafe says he ended up in a coma and this is the thanks he gets. Rafe argues that Jada was supposed to be acting commissioner until he was fit to return to duty. Rafe complains that now he’s better but he’s still out on his ass and it’s not right. Roman agrees and asks what he’s going to do about it.

Tate tells Sophia that he’s not ashamed of what they did and he’s tired of all the secrets, so he told Holly the truth that they had sex. Tate assures that he would not do that with Sophia then do a 180 and get back with Holly. Sophia questions if he says he’s staying with her out of obligation. Tate assures that’s not it. Sophia talks about knowing she pursued him while he was still with Holly but she’s changed and she wants to be with a guy who wants to be with her just as much. Sophia tells Tate that she doesn’t want to be with him if he’s still stuck on Holly. Tate then kisses Sophia to assure her that he wants to be with her.

Holly is shocked to learn that Aaron’s mother is alive and says this is huge as he must be so relieved. Aaron says he would be but he’s pretty sure she isn’t alive as she’s apparently being held hostage by a homicidal maniac drug lord named Clyde Weston. Holly acknowledges Clyde as the one who actually killed Abigail. Aaron explains that Clyde told Mark that if he didn’t kill Chad and get his money, he would just kill his mom. Holly repeats that she’s so sorry as she can’t even imagine how awful it must be for him. Aaron says it was bad enough thinking he lost his parents, but now knowing his mom is alive and held by a drug lord or maybe he already did it. Aaron tells Holly about how he had to explain it to Felicity. Holly asks how she took it. Aaron responds that she didn’t even show how upset she was and was just trying to make him feel better. Holly tells Aaron to let her know if there’s anything she can do to help. Aaron thanks her and says Felicity is staying with family friends until they figure out and he’ll be fine. Holly asks how he can be fine when this is a nightmare and repeats that she’s sorry for everything he’s going through. Aaron tells her that it did help to talk to her about it and thanks her. Holly says they are friends and she’s always here for him as they hug.

JJ questions how Chad wanting EJ to drop the charges against Clyde is honoring Abigail. Chad explains that it’s the only way to get to Clyde and get Abigail’s remains back. Cat explains that Clyde wants her dead but JJ doesn’t believe it. Chad insists she’s telling the truth but JJ questions if she is or if she’s playing Chad again. Chad asks how she would be playing him when she didn’t even know he would have her released. JJ suggests Cat could’ve given Clyde the idea to trade her for Abigail’s body since they’ve worked together before. Cat talks about her worries that Clyde killed her mother. Chad understands JJ is upset and says it’s been a nightmare for everyone who loved Abigail, but insists he knows what he’s doing and he has it under control. JJ questions Chad handing Cat over to Clyde being having it under control. JJ asks if Chad hasn’t suffered enough than to have Cat’s blood on his hands. Chad asks if JJ doesn’t know him better than that and insists he won’t actually hand her over to Clyde. JJ questions if he’s using Cat as bait which Chad confirms is exactly right.

Rafe tells Roman that losing his job like this sucks but there’s not much he can do about it since he serves the Mayor and the Mayor has decided she doesn’t want him there anymore, so he has to figure out how to suck it up and deal with it. Roman then suggests Rafe could get an attorney and sue the city.

Jada tells Gabi that she and Rafe don’t keep things from each other as they make a point to be honest with each other all of the time. Gabi argues that nobody is honest all the time and that men have egos, so there’s no way Rafe is okay with it. Jada asks if she’s saying Rafe is lying to her. Gabi says she wouldn’t call it lying but that he’s covering so she doesn’t feel bad for taking the job that he feels rightfully belongs to him. Jada asks what she’s supposed to do since she can’t veto the Mayor’s decision and give Rafe his old job back. Jada adds that Rafe told her that he didn’t even want it back. Jada insists that she’s not happy about it and that Rafe means more to her than a job. Jada brings up that she only took the position to keep the department going until Rafe got back, but she didn’t want his job. Gabi asks if she’s sure about that. Jada assures that she is but Gabi doesn’t believe her. Gabi then remarks that she thinks part of Jada is thrilled to be Salem’s first female black police commissioner.

Sophia tells Tate that she’s so relieved because in her head, it played out with Tate going back to Holly and her ending up alone. Tate apologizes if he made her feel insecure. Sophia says she just needs to get out of her own head. Tate says he can help with that as they continue kissing. Sophia says she really missed Tate and suggests they go to his room, so she can show him how much.

Rafe questions Roman thinking he should sue the city of Salem. Roman thinks he should consider it as he may have a case. Rafe brings up going after Paulina when she’s married to Abe, who is Roman’s best friend. Roman says he thinks the world of Paulina, but in this case he thinks she’s very wrong and that the city had an obligation to hold Rafe’s job until he returned. Rafe worries that if he brings a lawsuit, things will get ugly. Rafe adds that he just got engaged to Jada and doesn’t want to mess that up. Roman says he has great respect for Jada, but questions how happy they can be if Rafe goes back to work as one of Jada’s detectives while secretly resenting the fact that she has the job that’s rightfully his.

Jada questions how Gabi can say she’s thrilled to be commissioner. Gabi says she knows Jada loves Rafe, but she also knows what it’s like to be in competition with the man you love in the work place. Gabi talks about not being content with just running Gabi Chic and fighting for the CEO spot, which often put her at odds with Stefan. Jada states that she never wants to be at odds with Rafe over a damn job. Gabi asks if Jada likes being in power. Jada admits that she hates that Rafe got demoted but otherwise she would be honored because she does like being in charge. Gabi promises not to say a word to Rafe, but says that Jada and Rafe need to come clean to each other. Gabi says they have a real chance to be happy but only if they trust each other enough to be totally honest about this.

JJ questions Chad saying that Clyde will only think he will hand Cat over. Chad says he’s using Cat to get Clyde out in the open. JJ worries that this is risky as hell. Cat says she’s okay with the risk after everything she did and says the least she can do is try to help Chad get his wife’s remains back. Chad tells JJ that Julie knows for obvious reasons, but he can’t tell anyone because they can’t risk this getting back to Clyde, so he needs him to keep this a secret. JJ responds that he’s sorry but he can’t do that.

Aaron thanks Holly for listening and says he does feel better. Holly repeats that she’s here for him. Aaron then asks what happened with Holly’s mom in Paris. Holly says they talked things out and ended up in a much better place, so they are very relieved. Holly wishes she could say the same about her and Tate, but by the time she got back to Salem, Tate already moved on with Sophia. Aaron says he’s sorry and calls it kind of his fault which Holly questions. Aaron tells her not to get mad but he told Tate that if he was really in to Sophia, he should go for it. Holly confirms that Tate went for it and informs Aaron that Tate and Sophia slept together.

Tate removes his shirt in his room with Sophia as they feel each others’ heartbeat and then they kiss.

Rafe goes home where Jada informs him that Gabi made tamales to celebrate Rafe getting the commissioner job back. Rafe guesses he needs to have a talk with Gabi. Jada asks if they can tlak first. Jada then explains that she told Gabi what happened and she helped her realize that she hates that Rafe got demoted, but she’s also excited to have the job. Jada tell Rafe that she loves him so much and doesn’t want a job to come between them. Rafe says he feels exactly the same way as he then announces he’s quitting the police force.

Chad questions JJ not being able to keep his plan to himself. JJ warns Chad not to go through with this and calls it a big mistake. JJ blames what Chad has been through but argues that he’s not thinking straight. Chad assures that he’s thought this through and it’s the only way. JJ disagrees and declares that he can’t be in the same room as Cat anymore, so he storms out.

Aaron is shocked and apologizes to Holly as he says he was only encouraging Tate to go with his feelings. Holly assures that none of this is his fault. Holly says she made it clear to Tate that she wanted to give them another try but that’s not what he wanted as he chose Sophia over her.

Tate and Sophia kiss in bed as they talk about how into each other they are until Tate accidentally calls her Holly.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

You’re always saying thatyou’re all about family, EJ. So why on Earth would you cut that fake Abigail loose after she spent months deceiving your own brother?

Mayor Price, I had my reasons for cutting Cat Greene loose, as you put it. But I assure you that–

I don’t need your assurances, damn it. My office first thing tomorrow.

So, it sounded like someone got their ass handed to them. Tell me, why did you let that imposter go?

[dramatic music]

So it was Chad that convinced EJ to release Cat Greene? Why would he do that? Well, I’m sure you’ll get to the bottom of it, as you always do. Listen, I am finally done for the night. So I’ll be leaving now. OK.

No, Kayla, you can’t leave. Not until you’ve helped Sarah walk again.

If you want a drink, you better order now because it’s just about last call.

Don’t–don’t worry. I’m not ordering a drink, so…

Brady, nice to see you.

You too. I was hoping you were working late.

Oh, well, as always. So what brings you by?

Just wanted to shoot the breeze, actually, if that’s OK. I mean, look, if it’s a bad time–

Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, it isn’t, it isn’t. I’m ready to take a little bit of a break from these books. Go on, sit. So, you know, the last time we shot the breeze, it was about your son and my employee, if I recall, so what do you want to do? You want to just pick up where we left off?

No, we don’t have to pick up there. That’s fine. Honestly, I don’t want to– I don’t to violate Tate’s privacy.

Oh, come on, Brady. You know you can trust me. And, look, I know that you were concerned about Tate. I’m concerned about Sophia. So I know that I can trust you not to tell Tate or Sophia what I’m about to divulge to you. No, uh-uh. You know, never mind, never mind.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Well, that was getting good. You said you were going to divulge something.

Mm-mm. No, no, I’m not going to do it. No, no, because Sophia trusted me. And just like you don’t want to betray Tate’s trust, I don’t want to betray hers. So, no, I’m– I’m not betraying–

Actually–Ava, Ava, Ava. Actually, I think I’m already privy to the confidence that you’re reluctant to betray.

Oh. So you know?

Yeah, I’m all caught up. Happened underneath my own roof. So I’m fully aware that Tate and Sophia have taken their relationship to the next level.

[laughs] OK.

Tate, I’m so into you. More than you know.

And I’m into you.

Holly, this is–

What did you just call me? – You slept with Sophia? I think I’m going to be sick.

Holly, just listen. I–I want to be with you, but I can’t just be with you, if that makes any sense.

No, that doesn’t make sense. I don’t get why you can’t just be with me, Tate.

Because–

I might actually throw up.

No, because– because I feel like I have to give Sophia a chance. You know, she’s been there for me. And we’ve gotten close. So I–I don’t know, I feel like I have to at least see where our relationship could go.

Your “relationship”?

I’m sorry. I really–I wish things could have gone differently. I do. But you were gone. You were in Paris. And– Holly, I am so sorry. I really am. More sorry than you’ll ever know.

What do you mean? I didn’t call you anything. Maybe I said your name?

No, you didn’t say my name. You said Holly’s.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sandsthrough the hourglass, so arethe “Days of Our Lives.”

It’s quite the classy euphemism.

[laughs] “They took their relationship to the next level.”

OK, well, classy euphemism aside, I don’t even know how comfortable I am talking to you about this whole thing.

OK. All right, all right, all right, all right. So, listen, I will just then conclude our conversation by saying that I hope things work out between Tate and Sophia because she is clearly smitten with your son.

Yeah, so it seems.

And I hope that he is equally as smitten with her. What, no comment?

[stammers] Hey, I thought we were going to conclude this conversation?

OK, yeah, we are. We are, we are. OK, so just– just one more thing, OK?

Ava– -Just one more thing, all right? Just one more thing.

OK, one more.

So as Sophia’s sort of surrogate mother, I just– it is my fervent hope that your son is over Holly Jonas. Wow, you are a tough nut to crack.

You know what I would love? I would love some club soda.

Club soda?

Yeah.

Yeah. Coming right up. Hmm.

[sighs]

Sophia, I–I swear I really don’t remember calling you “Holly.”

So now you’re going to gaslight me?

No, no, no.

Well, even though you claim not to remember what you said, I know what I heard. It was your ex-girlfriend’s name, meaning that although you’re here in bed with me, you’re thinking about her.

Oh, hi, sweetheart. I didn’t know you were home.

I just came in.

I’m glad you’re here because I’ve got some wonderful news. Kristen agreed to give Sarah the serum.

So combining these two result in a serum that could cure your paralysis?

That’s what we’ve been told. But I have no idea the dosage or how it’s supposed to be administered.

That’s why we’re here. Kayla, Sarah trusts you to be the one to figure out how to get her out of this wheelchair and hopefully walking.

I guess if you heard me say Holly, I must have said Holly.

Wow. It’s really big of you to admit that you just said another girl’s name while you were in bed with me.

I feel awful that I did that. I’m so embarrassed. I–it’s just–

It’s just what?

When Holly and I broke up, she took it really hard. And so, yes, I’ve been thinking about her. But it has nothing to do with how I feel about you. Look, why don’t we just forget about everyone else and just focus on you and me.

I was focused on you and me. But you were focused on Holly.

Hey, Sophia, I am so sorry. I really–

[scoffs] Yeah, right, but not because you care about me. Only because you were dying to have sex tonight, imagining yourself with Holly.

No, that is not true.

Oh, come on, Tate. Why don’t you just admit to me and to yourself that when Holly asked you if you wanted to get back together, you wish you had said yes?

Club soda with lime.

Thank you.

Mm.

Are you sure you don’t have to work?

No, no, no. I’m going to finish up these books in the morning.

All right, good, because then I do have something to share with you.

Yeah?

And it has nothing to do with breaking anyone’s trust or anyone’s privacy. It’s just damn good news.

Oh, yeah, I could use some damn good news.

All right, well, do you recall me telling you that Kristen was going to do something huge for Sarah?

Oh, yeah, I remember that well, especially since I was surprised that Kristen was going to do anything huge for anyone– well, unless it was horrible and destructive, which it clearly wasn’t since you were so upbeat when you told me about it.

Yeah, and I’m even more upbeat than I was before because it appears that Kristen is actually going to go through with this. Ava, there’s a– there’s a serum that could potentially heal Sarah’s paralysis.

Wow.

Yeah.

Really?

Really. Really. It’s amazing. And I can’t elaborate on it too much. But I’m just hoping and praying that Sarah’s going to be able to walk very soon.

Wow. Look, that is– that is amazing. It is. But I just– I just don’t–I don’t see Kristen doing something like this without strings attached.

Actually, there– there are strings attached.

Yes. Which are?

When she agreed to hand over the serum to help Sarah, I didn’t know that she had asked for something in return.

Which was what?

Titan.

What? Titan?

Yeah, Titan. Yeah, she demanded that Xander give her control of his father’s company.

OK, well, that is more like the cold-hearted Kristen we all know and love. So, did Xander make that deal?

Well, it turns out that Xander didn’t have to because Kristen changed her mind about demanding Titan for the serum.

Really?

Mm-hmm.

Why would she do that?

Because I asked her to.

Rest assured, I have the whole Cat Greene situation well in hand.

Hmm. I sure hope so. For the life of me, I don’t understand how anyone believed that card-carrying phony was Abigail. I knew she was an imposter the first minute she set foot in this house.

Oh, well, aren’t you the bloody detective? You know, I just saw an ad in “The Spectator.” The Salem PD is looking for new recruits. You should apply.

[laughs] Yeah, I’m very happy in my current position. Thank you.

A position you may not hold for long, so I hear. Oh, that’s right. I still have my connection to the board. And they were more than happy to share their account of how you botched the Titan takeover. So give me the lowdown, sis. How did you screw this one up?

Wait, I thought Kristen was only willing to give Aunt Sarah the serum if Xander gave her Titan?

Well, that was the original deal, yes. But I’m happy to report that Titan is still in Xander’s control. And that’s because Brady somehow managed to convince Kristen to have a change of heart.

Wow. Kristen DiMera has a heart?

I didn’t think so.

[laughter] But at least this time, in this instance, I don’t know, she listened to her better angels and she gave Xander the serum.

Wow, that’s amazing. Has Aunt Sarah taken it yet?

Not yet. She and Xander are at the hospital. They’re talking to Kayla about how to administer the serum. – So you said it was Rolfwho developed the serum?

Yeah. And apparently, that one is the active ingredient, the one that Brady gave me. And the other one is useless without it.

At least that’s what Kristen told us.

So we’re left to trust Kristen and Rolf, just flying blind?

Well, not–not exactly. I mean, Rolf left these instructions. So I’m just hoping with these notes, you and I can figure out what to do next.

Oh, I didn’t botch up anything, EJ. No, at the th hour, there was an unexpected complication.

Which was?

Oh, which was Philip Kiriakis showed up, threatened to tie up the deal for Titan in the courts. So I decided it wasn’t worth the trouble. I simply chose to give Sarah the serum, no strings attached.

But why would you do that? I mean, even if Xander couldn’t deliver his father’s company, he would have paid through the nose for a chance to see his wife walk again. Why would you just give away your advantage?

I did it for love.

[sighs]

Wait, so–so Kristen gave Sarah and Xander the serum because you told her to? What, your wish is her command?

Stop, no. Not–I mean, not– not usually, God knows not usually.

OK. So what’s the catch? What’s the catch, Brady?

All right, here’s the catch, Ava. I told her that if she forces Xander to give the company to her in exchange for the serum, that she could kiss any chance that we had of ever getting back together goodbye.

[laughs]

I said it.

Yes, you did. OK, so that is why she was so noble. Kristen only did the right thing because she is still crazy about you. And you– wow, you gave her a hope that the two of you might get back together if she gave that serum over. Nice.

It’s a little manipulative, isn’t it?

Yeah.

Yeah, but– but very effective, it seems.

Mm-hm. Yeah. Yeah, but I just wonder.

You wonder what?

Well, was it a total manipulation? Or is there a chance for the two of you? Come on, Brady. Look, you two, you have a daughter together. So is there any chance of you and Kristen actually getting back together?

Well, from what I see from these notes, it looks like Rolf intended this to be a % solution. But there’s– there’s nothing here about diluting it with saline.

Do you think that it can be administered intravenously?

Possibly, but I’m not clear on the titration rate.

Yeah, some of us in the room didn’t go to medical school. Would you mind catching me up? Does any of this mean that you know how to use this stuff?

So, um, Kayla and I think that the cure can be given through an IV. But that might take several hours.

And that’s a problem because?

Well, um, because the serum has to be injected directly into my spine.

Which carries significant risks. Honestly, I don’t know if I’m comfortable doing it.

Grandma, I’m so happy for Aunt Sarah. I just hope and pray it works for her.

Yeah, so do I. So, tell me, what’s going on in your life?

Yeah, well, with all this great news, it kind of feels weird to talk about myself.

No, it’s not. And as happy as you are about Sarah, I can tell you are a bit down.

Yeah, I am. It’s just been hard, my– my breakup with Tate.

Of course it’s hard. I mean, you cared about him very much.

I do, so much. Grandma, I was–I was naive to think that I could just go through his dad’s room and go through his briefcase to try to find evidence that he was the one who hit Aunt Sarah and then just apologize and everything would be OK between us.

Yeah, but you and Tate, you were very close.

Yeah, we were.

Yeah.

But I also didn’t count on one huge obstacle getting in the way and ruining everything.

And what’s that?

Not what, who. Sophia Choi.

Damn it, Tate, I made it clear that I only wanted to be with you if I was the one you wanted to be with. And you said I was. But obviously, you were lying.

No, I was not lying. I promise. I just–

Just what? You wanted to be honorable by not dumping me immediately after sleeping with me? Well, I’m sorry, but I don’t see the honor in staying with someone when you really want to be with someone else.

I–I– I guess you’re right. There is no honor in that. And I admit that I screwed up here. I was just trying not to hurt anyone, you know? And I really–I want to do the right thing. But I don’t know what the right thing is.

I’ll make it easy for you by asking you one simple question. Who do you want to be with, Tate? Me or Holly?

Look, I know it’s insane to think that Kristen and I could have a future together, especially given our history. The one reason why I don’t rule it out completely– hear me out–is our daughter. And even though it would mean the world for Rachel to have her parents together and have us be a family again, my head tells me to run the other direction and don’t look back.

Well, what does your heart tell you?

My heart–my heart’s with my daughter. I just want her to be happy, Ava. You know, when Kristen and I, when we fight, you should see the look on her face. She hates it.

Of course. So your heart’s with your daughter. And you want her to be happy. So that means you might get back together with her mom.

I’m obviously conflicted about it. You can see. You can see, right?

Ah.

But, hey, Kristen knows. Ava, she knows that it’s highly unlikely that the two of us could ever work it out. I’ve made no promises to her. And what is with the look on your face right now?

Brady, I got to be honest with you. I think you’re being naive.

I am?

Yeah.

Really? Why?

I mean, look, of course, you may think that you made no promises to Kristen. But don’t you think it’s possible she heard what she wanted to hear?

OK, OK, OK. Let me make sure I understand. You gave away that miracle cure because Brady asked you to, despite the fact he promised nothing in return?

Of course, Brady offered something in return. He told me that the only way that he and I could get back together is if I helped Sarah walk again.

OK, maybe this is just the lawyer in me, but I want to be sure I’m clear on the language of this deal, if you can even call it that. Am I correct to assume that Brady offered no guarantees that he would enter into a romantic relationship with you?

And what guarantees should I have asked for, EJ? Should I have had him sign an oath in blood?

In a word, yes.

[scoffs]

Kristen, at the bare minimum, you should have secured a promise of a future with the man. But instead, you let him dangle a carrot before you, and you dropped everything else to chase after it. You failed Negotiating , my dear. You gave away that miracle cure and ended up with nothing.

Why would injecting the serum into Sarah’s spine be risky?

Well, because there’s still swelling around my spine.

And the serum is an unknown quantity. So injecting into the site may cause a reaction that could make the swelling worse.

Worse how?

Sarah’s condition could be irreversible.

I see. But, Kayla, I– I remember you saying immediately after Sarah’s accident that there was a chance that she might recover without treatment. But at this point, it doesn’t seem like that’s going to happen. Could the serum really make her condition any worse?

We just don’t know. I mean, let’s put aside for a second that he is criminally insane. Rolf is a brilliant scientist.

But this is an untested treatment, obviously.

Sarah, you are a doctor. So I don’t have to tell you that there is significant risk here, known and unknown.

You don’t.

Sarah, darling, I’m going to love you and see to it that we live our best lives together, regardless of what you do, whatever you choose. I’m sure you know that.

I do. And I also know that our little girl is going to be taking her first steps any day now. So I am willing to take this chance if it means I can be standing with her, holding her hand.

OK then. So we–we know the risks.

And the possible miraculous rewards. Kayla, will you please give me the serum?

Forget it. You don’t even need to bother with an answer. The look on your face tells me all I need to know. You don’t have the guts to admit it. So just stand there all silent and noble, telling yourself that you did the right thing, and I’ll let you off the hook. You don’t even have to feel guilty about dumping me because I’m dumping you.

Sophia, I– I’m so sorry. I really am. I didn’t intend for any of this to happen. And I just want to say, I think you’re great. I really do like you.

We’re not kids anymore, Tate. Liking me isn’t enough. I don’t sleep with people I like. So do yourself a favor and go be with Holly, the girl you really want to be with. And when she breaks your heart, don’t you dare come crying to me.

So Tate told you that he wanted to be with you?

Yeah. But he also said he didn’t think it was right to break up with Sophia just because I wanted to get back together. Because he wanted to see where things went with them.

Well, I think it’s admirable that Tate wanted to avoid hurting Sophia. I’m just not happy that you got hurt in the process.

[phone beeps] Oh. Oh, my goodness.

What is it?

I’m sorry, sweetheart. I’ve got to get to the hospital.

Oh. OK. Do you want me to come with you?

No, thanks. But I will check in with you later.

OK.

Take care.

You too.

Sophia, hey.

Hey, Ava. I know you’re about to close for the night.

[voice trembling] But I needed to see you. Were you about to go home?

No, no, no, no, no, honey. Come on. I can see you’re upset. Come on. Come on. Sit down. Sit down.

I feel like such a fool.

Honey. Honey, what happened? What is it? Is it Tate?

Yeah. Yeah, it is. He and I are finished.

What–what are you talking about? I thought you guys took your relationship to the next level?

Yeah. Yeah, we did. But then the next time we went back to that level, he called me Holly in the middle of it.

[footsteps approaching]

Tate, what are you doing here?

Henderson let me in.

So I take it you don’t have plans with Sophia tonight, then?

I did. But Sophia and I aren’t together anymore.

Negotiating . Really? Please, Professor, enlighten me.

Well, it’s all pretty elementary, my dear Kristen. It’s simply a matter of you not giving away your end of the deal and still getting something in return. You clearly want to restart your relationship with Brady. But he has given you no reason to believe that’s ever going to happen.

Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa. That is your cynical, pessimistic take on it. No surprise. But I am damn certain that you will be proven wrong. Hmm. So where has your negotiating skills gotten you, brother, hmm? With Sami? With Nicole? Hm?

Mm. Let’s stay on topic, shall we? We’re talking about you deluding yourself into believing Brady will ever take you back. In fact, now that he has manipulated you into getting what he wants, I’d be shocked if he ever shows his face around here again.

[sighs]

You were saying?

[playful music]

Xander! I just got Sarah’s text. What’s happening?

Kayla agreed to administer Rolf’s serum.

Oh, Xander! That’s wonderful news.

Yes. Sarah knows the risks. And she’s decided that she’s willing to take this chance.

And when will Kayla give her the drug?

Oh, she’s prepping her right now. This is it, Maggie.

[gasps]

Sarah might have come to this hospital in a wheelchair. But if everything goes right, she’ll be walking out of here.

Oh, my God. Oh, my God.

Brady, what a surprise.

[phone ringing]

Oh, I need to take this. Mayor Price, what can I do for you?

Well, I’m really happy to see you.

I can’t stay long.

Oh, OK. Well, I was going to call you, actually. I wanted to tell you that after you delivered the serum to Xander and Sarah, I took them to Rolf’s lab to retrieve the notes and figure out how to administer it.

That is great. That is great. That is great. I got to–I got to say, I’m very impressed with the way in which you’re doing the right thing here. Oh, here.

What is that?

It’s a bracelet.

Is it for me?

No. No, it’s– it’s for Rachel, to give to her. It’s her friendship bracelet, and she left it in back of my car, so…

Oh. Oh, OK. No, no, I will make sure she gets it.

Thank you.

Thank you.

Kristen, um, I think it’s important that you understand something, that although I’m grateful for everything you’re doing with Sarah and the serum, it doesn’t necessarily change things between us. And I–I can’t make any promises, OK?

[laughs] Yeah.

Will you do me a favor and tell Rachel I love her and that I’ll call her to say good night? Thanks.

So? How did it go? Wait, wait, wait, let me guess. Brady came round to tell you that since you’ve so generously given Sarah that serum, you’ve completely redeemed yourself in his eyes and he’s realized that you are the love of his life and he can’t live without you? Yum, yum, yum. Am I right?

And then after he said Holly’s name and I called him on it, he couldn’t really say another word. Like, he couldn’t look me in the eye and tell me that he wanted to be with her and not me. So I ended it between us, and I walked out.

OK. Good for you. Good for you. You got out of there with your dignity.

I’m not sure I did, Ava. I feel so used, so humiliated.

OK. No, no, no, Sophia. Sophia, honey, listen to me. OK, this is Tate. Tate did this. This is on him. He made you think that he was over Holly Jonas, and clearly he wasn’t. Honey, this– this is not about you. This–this is on him. Oh. Oh, honey. How’d you leave it?

Well, I– I told him he should go be with Holly, so– he probably went running back to her as soon as I left.

Oh. Come here, you. Come here, come here, come here, come here, come here, come here. Oh, baby, I’m so sorry. I’m so– oh, I’m so, so, so sorry.

[crying softly]

So you and Sophia, you guys aren’t together anymore?

No, we’re not. Holly, I made a mistake here, a really big one. I should have been more honest with her and myself about what I wanted and what I was feeling. I also made a really, really big mistake with you.

What mistake?

When you came to me and you told me that you wanted to get back together, every single part of me wanted to say yes. But then my head and my heart, they were going in opposite directions, and– very stupidly went with what my head was telling me. And I did what I thought was the right thing to do.

You stayed with Sophia because you guys slept together.

Right.

[sighs] And I– I really feel terrible for hurting her. But I should have known that it wasn’t going to work. Because all I ever wanted was you.

[soft music]

OK. I combined the first part of the serum with the activating agent and tested a small sample in the lab.

And is the composition the same as the formula in Rolf’s notes?

It was an exact match, which means that our calculations were correct.

So far, so good.

Yep. In theory, it should work.

Well, let’s see if it works in practice.

Well, that’s a pretty big needle.

Not going to pass out on us, big guy, are you?

Not a chance.

Listen, we don’t need to do this tonight. I could put this dose in the cryo freeze and– I mean, if you’re having second thoughts.

Whatever you decide to do, darling, I’m here for you.

Let’s do this. Now.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[dramatic music]

[knock at door]

Sophia.

Were you expecting someone else?

[light music]

Aaron, hey.

Hey. Hey, Holly.

[sniffles]

Mind if I sit?

Sure.

Hey, I’ve–I’ve been thinking about you a lot recently. I know this must be a really difficult time for you.

I guess you’ve heard, then.

About Mark? Yeah, I did.

Of course. Of course you have. I bet all of Salem knows, actually. So let me just confirm the rumors. Yes, my brother was arrested for trying to kill Chad DiMera.

And I want you to clear my calendar at “The Spectator” for the next few days. Yeah, out of town or–or whatever. Uh-huh.

Chad, have you heard the latest?

Look, I have to call you back.

For some unknown reason, your idiot brother dropped the charges against Cat Greene.

JJ, listen–

What the hell was he thinking?

Look–

Look, it doesn’t matter. That woman needs to be held accountable for what she did to you, to all of us. So we need to find her right now before she skips town.

You can call off the search party. I’m here.

[tense music]

[chuckles] That’s right, Javi. You need to do everything on that list I gave you, including picking up my dry cleaning. OK, and then after you’re done with that, I want you to stop by the market. I want you to pick up some corn husks and masa harina.

[laughs] Now, that is the level of enthusiasm that I expect from my assistant. That’s right, primo. You guessed it. I’m making your mami’s famous red chili pulled pork tamales to celebrate Rafe’s return to work as Salem’s police commissioner. Oh, he’s so excited to get back to work, and I just want tonight to be special for him.

[soft music]

Rafe, this isn’t what I wanted.

I know, but it’s clearly what Paulina wants. And what she says goes. I guess I should consider myself lucky she still wants me around as detective.

I–I don’t know what to say.

I do. Congratulations.

Guess that belongs to you now.

This isn’t right, Rafe. No, this–this badge belongs to you.

No, no, no, not anymore. I’m out. You’re in. You can take the word “acting” out of your title. Jada, you are now commissioner of Salem PD.

[dramatic music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[soft music]

I am so sorry, Rafe.

This isn’t–

Mm-mm. No, no, no. There’s nothing to be sorry about, OK? You are a–you’re a great cop. You’re a great cop. I know it. I’m glad Paulina knows it.

You are a great cop too. And, Rafe, honestly, I am not comfortable with this.

Well, I am.

How could you be? Rafe, this isn’t right.

I am OK with this because it’s what Mayor Price wants and because you are very deserving of this promotion. You’ve worked hard for it.

[phone ringing]

It’s the station.

Well, you better answer it… boss.

Acting–I mean Commissioner Hunter.

I’m on it.

Duty calls?

Yeah.

[sighs] I’m sorry.

No, no, no. Hey, no more apologies, all right? I man, God knows how many times I had to leave in the middle of a meal. Oh, don’t forget your badge.

Right.

So see you at home?

You know it.

[exhaling sharply] Look, Rafe, I’m sorry I overheard your conversation with Jada. Occupational hazard.

Ah…

[clears throat] so then you heard that my fiancée is going to be taking over my job as commissioner.

Yes, I did hear that. I gleaned that from what I heard. And though I heard you say that you’re fine with it, I know it’s got to be tough on you. So if you want to talk–

No, no. Come on, nothing to talk about. It’s a done deal. I’m happy for Jada.

No, I wasn’t expecting anyone, but I’m glad you’re here. Come on in.

Thanks. I know it hasn’t been long, but it feels like forever since we’ve talked.

Yeah, I’m sorry. I’ve just–I’ve been super busy, family stuff and studying. You know, the usual.

Right. Well, I’m relieved to hear that. I was a little worried you might be avoiding me.

Avoiding you? Why would I be avoiding you?

I ran into Holly.

Oh.

She told me she wants you back, and I just assumed you feel the same way she does.

Actually, I don’t. I don’t know what she told you, but Holly and I, it’s over. We’re not getting back together.

[dramatic music]

God, you know, I keep thinking back to when I bumped into Mark in Paris at this little café near my mom’s place. I thought it was just some weird coincidence we were both there at the same time. I had no idea he was there to try to–

He was there to whack someone? Yeah.

Yeah.

Yeah, well, turns out, my brother’s been keeping a lot of secrets, very big ones. Mild-mannered doctor by day, cold-blooded assassin by night.

I’m really sorry, Aaron.

[sighs] Aside from being in total shock that my brother was involved in the plotting and scheming of murdering someone…

[light music] I don’t know what Felicity and I are gonna do if he goes to prison.

Aaron, I know I was there in Paris when all this went down, but I still don’t really know the details. I mean, was Mark really working with that woman who was pretending to be Abigail DiMera?

Yeah, he was

OK, but why? I–I don’t get the connection. How did he even know her?

[scoffs] Well, actually, he’s known her for a long, long time. Turns out, that woman’s actually our sister.

What the hell is wrong with you, showing up here? You’ve got a hell of a nerve.

JJ–

Did you come to beg for Chad’s forgiveness again? ‘Cause he doesn’t want anything to do with you, and neither does anyone in our family. All we want is for you to suffer for what you did to us. Letting us believe that my sister came back from the dead, you sadistic–

JJ, that’s enough. Stop. She’s here because I asked her to be.

What?

I’m the one that had EJ drop the charges.

[dramatic music]

So you and Holly aren’t getting back together?

No, I would have told you if we were.

Yeah. Yeah, yeah, you’re right. I just–I’m really surprised.

Why?

‘Cause I know Holly is really into you, and she seemed determined to get you back. So is this because she somehow found out about what happened between us and–and changed her mind? Because, Tate, she didn’t hear it from me. I swear, I didn’t tell her that we slept together.

I know you didn’t. But I did.

[dramatic music] – What? That woman who was pretending to be Abigail, she’s–she’s your sister?

[light music]

Her name is Cat. She was horribly injured in the accident that killed my parents. And I thought she was just in some recovery clinic in Europe, but no. No, no, she’s been running around two continents pretending to be Chad DiMera’s wife that’s back from the dead who looks completely different because of plastic surgery.

Oh, my God. Wow. Wow, and to think I was there at their wedding– or their almost wedding.

You were there?

Mm-hmm, actually, it turns out, I sort of played a part in exposing your sister as an imposter.

What? What are you saying? How did you do that?

Well, I overheard her the night before the wedding on a phone call. And when I asked her about it, she said she was talking to Abigail’s brother, JJ.

Which she wasn’t, obviously.

No. And then JJ showed up to the wedding as a surprise. And when this came up about the phone call, he said he and his sister hadn’t spoken.

[scoffs] Because the person you overheard on the phone was probably my brother, Mark.

Right. Yeah, probably. So I don’t know, I guess when your sister got caught up in that little lie, the big lie about who she really was finally came out.

Bet that was a real shocker.

Yeah, it was. But I still don’t get why. I mean, why would your sister and brother do all this?

[sighs] They had a really, really good reason.

That doesn’t excuse any of the horrible things that they just did.

OK. Well, what was the reason?

They did it to save my mom.

Aaron, I thought your mom was dead.

Yeah, so did I.

Why the hell would you want EJ to drop the charges against her?

[dramatic music]

Look, Chad, don’t tell me that you are falling for this sob story about Weston holding her mother hostage.

It’s not a sob story. It’s the truth. And for all I know, he could have killed my mother already. He told Mark and me that he would kill her if–

If Mark didn’t kill Chad for his money? Yeah, we heard all about your pathetic little dilemma. And I, for one, don’t have an inch of sympathy for you or your homicidal brother, not when you were both fine with letting an innocent man– a father of two young children– be murdered so your mother wouldn’t be. My niece and nephew were gonna be orphans and you didn’t give a damn.

I didn’t know that Mark was going to try to kill Chad. I promise you that, I didn’t know.

And why the hell should we believe that?

What reason do I have to lie anymore? JJ, I’m horrified that–that my brother even contemplated doing that. The only defense I have for him is that he was desperate. We both were.

Right, no, you were so desperate that you were willing to hurt everyone in my family just so you could possibly save someone in yours. Well, let me tell you something. You are not the victim here, damn it. You want everyone to believe that you’re afraid of big, bad Clyde Weston when the truth is, you are no better than him. My God, do you have any idea what my family has been through since my sister died?

Well, given that you and your brother perpetrated this horrifying fraud to save your mother, let me tell you about mine. My mom was so devastated when she lost Abigail that she went back to her addiction to opioids. Well, she’s sober now. She’s very smart and intuitive, which is why she was the one person who saw right through you from the jump for the lying fraud that you are. And thank God she did, because if she had to deal with the loss of Abigail all over again–

You expect me to give a damn about saving your mom when you didn’t even think about what you were doing to mine or my dad or Chad?

I did. I did.

I thought about the pain that I was causing your family. I thought about it a lot. But top of mind was my family. And I know that that’s no excuse. I understand that.

You’re damn right it isn’t.

I didn’t think we had a choice.

There’s always a choice.

And look, man, I get it. It is not your fault that this woman fooled you. You didn’t want to believe that Abigail was dead. None of us did. There’s no shame in that. But you helping her now, letting her get away with what she did, that’s desecrating Abigail’s memory.

The only reason I am doing this is to honor Abigail.

Yeah, and let HR know that we need to get the ad to “The Spectator” ASAP for new recruits. Right. I mean, even with Rafe back, we are still very short-staffed. OK. Mmm, something smells good. What is that?

I’m making a celebratory dinner, my Tía Hilda’s tamales.

Oh, and what are we celebrating tonight?

Rafe’s return to work as police commissioner.

[tense music]

And hey, why wouldn’t I be happy with Jada staying on in the top spot? You know, I’m actually looking forward to, you know, not having to deal with all the bureaucracy and red tape, actually, of being able to get out there in the street and work some cases.

Oh, yeah, that red tape and bureaucracy can be very stressful.

Mm-hmm.

Rafe, as you well know, I was a commissioner once myself, so I know what it’s like to be the head honcho, to have all those men and women in blue looking up to you for guidance, to have the responsibility for the safety and well-being of the good people in this town. But I also know what it’s like to give that up. So look, I– I don’t mean to tell you what to do or how to react to this or anything, for that matter, all right? But I will tell you this. You need to be honest with yourself. ‘Cause suppressing negative feelings, in my experience, never a good thing.

[soft music]

Yeah.

[chuckles] OK, you got me. I am– I am pretty damn angry about this whole thing. In fact, I am not happy about it at all, none of it.

Well, I don’t have to tell you how stir-crazy my brother has been, having to take it easy, not getting the go-ahead to go back to work.

No, you don’t, but, Gabi–

Which is why I know he can’t wait to walk back into that police station tomorrow and let his officers know that their commissioner is back and ready for action. Why don’t you seem happy about it?

Because it isn’t gonna happen.

What? Why? Rafe told me the doctors cleared him to go back to work.

They did, and Rafe is going back to work, just not at his old job. Mayor Price asked me to stay on as commissioner.

What? What about my brother?

He’s gonna be a detective again.

So he’s being demoted?

We’re trying not to look at it like that.

Well, how else can you look at it? I mean, my brother was the head cop, and now he’s not. He must be furious.

Actually, he said that he was pretty OK with it.

Yeah, well, maybe that’s what he wanted you to believe. But I know my brother, and there is no way in hell that he is OK with this.

[dramatic music]

[soft music]

Yeah. You got me. I am so not happy about this.

OK, is it more about the demotion, or do you think you’d have a hard time taking orders from your future wife?

No, it’s not the taking orders from Jada part. I have no problem taking orders from a woman that I love or any woman, for that matter. I mean, you know, Hope and I, we worked together. And she was my boss, and there was no problem. Yeah. You know, it’s more about the demotion, about feeling disrespected. I put my life on the line for this job. I ended up in a coma working for this city. And this is the thanks that I get?

Hey, I hear you.

Jada was supposed to be acting commissioner until I was fit to return for duty, till I was better. Well, I’m better, but now I’m still out on my ass? It’s not right.

No, it isn’t. So what are you gonna do about it?

[scoffs]

[dramatic music]

I’m not ashamed of what we did. I’m tired of all the secrets. So yeah, I told Holly the truth, that you and I had sex. And I just–I want you to know that I would not just be with you that way and then do a complete and get back together with Holly.

So you’re staying with me out of some sense of obligation?

No. No, not at all. That’s not–

Look, Tate. I know I pursued you when you were still with Holly, but I’ve changed. I realized I deserve a guy that’s just as into me as I am into him.

Of course you do.

I guess what I’m saying is, I don’t want to be with you if you’re still hung up on Holly.

What do you think? Did that kiss feel like I want to be with you and only you?

I think so. But maybe try it one more time just to be sure.

Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Aaron, your mother’s alive? This is huge! You must be so relieved.

[light music]

Yeah. I really would be if I wasn’t pretty sure she isn’t.

I’m totally confused. What?

Apparently, my mother survived the accident that killed my dad and injured my sister.

I guess now she’s being held hostage by some homicidal maniac drug lord named Clyde Weston.

Oh, my–mm, Clyde Weston is the man who actually killed Abigail.

Correct. And he told my brother that if he didn’t kill Chad DiMera and give him his money, he would just kill my mom.

God. Oh, Aaron, I’m so sorry. I can’t even imagine how awful this must be for you.

Yeah, it is.

[scoffs] It really was bad enough to lose my parents or–or even thinking that I had. But now, knowing that my mom is alive and being held by a drug lord? Or maybe–maybe even not, maybe he just–he just went and did it, got the revenge.

Man. Ugh, explaining that to Felicity?

You already did?

[sighs] That poor kid.

How did she take it?

She didn’t–she didn’t even– she didn’t even show how upset she was. She just was trying to make me feel better.

Well, that’s really sweet of her. Aaron, look, if there’s anything I can do to help, anything at all, please just let me know, with Felicity or anything.

Thanks. Yeah, she’s just gonna stay with some family friends till we figure it out. And I’ll be fine.

No, how can you be fine? This is a nightmare. Aaron, again, I’m so sorry for everything you’re going through.

Yeah, well, that makes two of us. But it really did help to talk to you about it. Thanks.

Well, we’re friends, right? And I’m here for you, OK? Always. Come here.

[sighs]

[dramatic music]

You want to run that by me again? How does you wanting EJ to drop the charges against her honor Abigail?

Because it is the only way to get to Weston and to recover her remains. We exhumed Abigail’s grave, remember? It was empty.

Of course I remember! Why do you need her for that?

He needs me because Clyde isn’t too happy about how everything turned out, how I stopped my brother from trying to shoot Chad. And he wants me dead.

I don’t believe any of this, not for a minute.

She’s telling the truth.

Is she, Chad? Or is she playing you again?

How is she playing me? She didn’t even know I was gonna have her released.

Unless she’s the one who gave Clyde the idea to trade her for Abigail’s body. She’s obviously worked with him before.

Like I told you, because he threatened to kill my mother, something I’m afraid he might have already done by now.

Yeah, so you say.

OK, look, JJ, I get that you’re upset. You have every right to be. All right, this has been a nightmare for everyone who loved Abigail and thought that we had her back. But you need to trust me when I say I know what I’m doing. I’ve got this under control.

Really, so you’re telling me that you handing her off to Clyde is having this under control? My God, haven’t you suffered enough without having this woman’s murder on your conscience?

You don’t know me better than that? Of course I’m not gonna hand her over to Clyde. I despise her, but I don’t want her to die.

Well, then what? What, you’re gonna use her as bait?

Exactly.

– Losing my job like this sucks. There’s not much that I can do about it. I serve at the pleasure of the mayor, and the mayor has decided that she doesn’t want me there anymore. So I just have to figure out how to suck it up and deal.

[soft music]

Or…

Or what?

Get an attorney. Sue the city.

Rafe and I don’t keep things from each other, Gabi. OK, we make it a point to be % honest with each other.

Oh, please. No one is % honest with each other % of the time, not to mention that every man has an ego. So he might be telling you he’s cool with this, but I’m telling you he’s not.

So you think Rafe is lying to me?

I wouldn’t say he’s lying, exactly. I’m saying he’s covering how he really feels because he doesn’t want you to feel bad about taking the job that he thinks rightfully belongs to him.

OK, well, what am I supposed to do? I mean, it’s not like I can veto the mayor’s decision and give Rafe his old job back. And besides, he told me. He told me that he doesn’t even want it back.

Of course he did. Look, my brother has evolved into a sensitive and progressive man. However, deep within that broad chest is a heart full of Latin machismo.

I know, and, Gabi, listen, I am not at all happy about this. I mean, why would I be? Rafe means so much more to me than a job. OK? And–the only reason– the only reason I took that interim commissioner position was to keep the department going until he came back. I didn’t want his job.

You sure about that?

Of course I am.

[sighs] What is that look about? What, you don’t believe me?

No, actually, I don’t. I think a part of you is thrilled to be Salem’s first female Black commissioner.

[chuckles] That was nice.

It was. And I have to say, I’m so relieved.

About?

Us. I’ve played this scenario out in my head every which way. And every time, you ended up back with Holly and I ended up alone.

Well, I’m sorry if I did anything to make you feel insecure.

No, no, it’s not you. It’s me. I just need to get out of my head.

Well, I might be able to help you with that.

I really missed you, Tate. Why don’t we go to your room so I can show you how much?

[chuckles]

You think that I should sue the city of Salem?

I think you should damn well consider it. You may very well have a case.

[soft music]

OK, but going after Paulina? You know, she’s married to Abe. That’s your best friend.

Mm-hmm. Look, I think the world of Paulina, but I call them as I see them. In this case, she is wrong, very wrong. The city has an obligation to hold your job until you recuperate from injuries sustained on that job in the line of duty.

Yeah? Maybe so. But if I bring a lawsuit, things are gonna get ugly. I mean, Roman, I just got engaged to Jada. I don’t want to mess that up.

Of course you don’t. Listen to me, Rafe. I have great respect for Jada, both as a cop and as a person. OK, but you need to ask yourself, just how happy can you and Jada be if you go back to work as one of her detectives while still secretly resenting the fact she has a job that is rightfully yours?

How can you say that I am thrilled to be commissioner? I mean, God, you make it sound like I was happy that Rafe lost his job.

No, that isn’t what I’m saying. Look, I know you love my brother, but I also know what it’s like to be in competition with the man you love in the workplace. When Gabi Chic was a subsidiary of DiMera Enterprises, I wasn’t content to just run that little division. I fought tooth and nail for that CEO spot, which often put me at odds with Stefan.

Well, I never want to be at odds with Rafe over a damn job.

But you do like being in charge.

[dramatic music] Jada, this kitchen is a safe space. Anything you say stays between you, me, and the tamales.

All right, all right. I’ll admit it. Although I hate that Rafe has been demoted, and if it wasn’t for that, I would be very honored to be made commissioner because I do like being in charge.

Of course you do.

Look, I promise I won’t say a word of this to Rafe. But, Jada, you need to come clean with him, and he needs to do the same with you. You guys have a real shot at being happy but only if you trust each other enough to be totally honest about this.

So you’re saying Clyde will only think that you’re handing her over to him?

Right. I’m using her to get Clyde into the open.

Chad, this is Clyde Weston that we’re talking about. Don’t you think that this is risky as hell?

I am OK with the risk. After everything I did, the least I can do is try to help Chad get his wife’s remains back.

Look, JJ, Julie knows, for obvious reasons. But you can’t tell anyone, all right? We can’t risk this getting– getting back to Clyde. I need you to keep this a secret.

I’m sorry, but I can’t do that.

[light music]

Thank you for listening. Like I said, it really does feel better to talk about it with someone, so…

I’m glad. And like I said, I’m here for you, and I mean that.

So what happened with your mom in Paris?

Oh, my mom. Well, we just– we talked things out. It was a lot, but we ended up in a much better place.

OK, good. That’s good.

Yeah. Yeah, it is. I’m super relieved, and so is she, obviously.

Just, I wish I could say the same about me and Tate, that we were in a better place. But by the time I got back to Salem, Tate already moved on with Sophia.

Yeah. Yeah, I’m sorry.

That was kind of my fault.

How was it kind of your fault?

Well, hold on. And don’t get mad at me. I told Tate that if he was really into Sophia that I think he should go for it.

Oh.

Well, Tate went for it, all right. He and Sophia slept together.

[dramatic music]

I can feel your heart.

[chuckles] Yeah.

Can you feel mine?

It’s beating fast.

It always does that when I’m with you.

[dramatic music]

[sniffing] Oh, don’t tell me those are Tía Hilda’s–

Red chili pulled pork tamales.

You did this?

No, actually, Gabi did…

Oh.

To celebrate you getting the commissioner job back.

Right. Well, guess I need to have a little talk with Gabi.

Can you and I talk first?

Sure.

OK, well, I told Gabi what happened, how Mayor Price wants me to stay on as commissioner. And she helped me realize that although I hate that you were demoted, I am also excited about it.

Yeah, well, makes sense, right? Why wouldn’t you be?

But I’m also excited about being your fiancée. I mean, Rafe, I love you so much, and I don’t want a job to come between us.

I feel exactly the same way.

You do?

Absolutely, which is why I’m quitting the force.

So you can’t keep this to yourself, about Cat being here, about my plan.

You’re damn right I can’t, and I won’t. So unless you want me to put this in skywriting exactly what you’re up to with this woman, you will not go through with this.

JJ–

You’re making a big mistake, Chad. And I’ll–I’ll chalk it up to the hell you’ve been through, not only losing Abigail at the hand of this monster but now her, because of this woman and her disgusting lies. But, man, you are not thinking straight.

I am. I have thought this through. It’s the only way.

Like hell it is. You know what? I can’t even be in the same room as this lying, disgusting bitch anymore. I got to get out of here.

JJ–

[light music]

Yeah. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. I’m sorry. I’m sorry, I encouraged Tate to go with Sophia. But not like that, I was more, like, telling him to just go with his feelings and stuff. I don’t know. Please don’t hate me.

No. Aaron, no, I don’t hate you. None of this is your fault. And you know what? I’m sure Tate was going to go with his feelings or whatever whether you encouraged him to or not. And even though I made it clear to him that I wanted to give us another try, that’s– that’s just not what Tate wanted. He chose Sophia over me.

[dramatic music]

Tate, I’m so into you, more than you know.

I’m into you.

[sighs] Holly, this is–

[tense music]

What did you just call me?

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

EJ warns Gabi that he could have an officer there to arrest her for assaulting Salem’s district attorney. Gabi says she should leave a mark then and tries to slap EJ again but EJ grabs her arm. JJ then appears and demands EJ get his hands off of her now, surprising Gabi.

Jada is at home, finishing a call with her sister Talia and telling her about Rafe’s proposal. Rafe joins Jada in the living room and they talk about her ring being a family heirloom as they kiss. Jada then surprises Rafe with a gift.

Paulina goes to the Brady Pub and tells Roman that Rafe and Jada will be joining her for lunch. Paulina mentions just getting a clean bill of health from her doctor so she is treating herself. Paulina talks about being relieved as it looks like she’ll be sticking around for awhile which Roman says he’s very happy to hear. Stephanie then enters the Pub but Paulina calls her Chanel, leaving Roman confused.

At the hospital, Alex tells Chanel about meeting Joy and she seems pretty cool. Chanel calls Joy nice and says she likes her. Alex tells Chanel about how he freaked Joy out when he said she was going to be a thorn in Chanel’s side, but she acted like he meant it in real life when he meant it in character. Chanel wonders why Joy thought he meant in real life. Alex suggest maybe she thought she would mix up real life like Johnny did as they talk about Joy going after her man on the show.

Joy goes to see Johnny in the hospital room and says she just met Alex. Joy mentions hearing that he filmed the love scene and asks if he’s okay. Johnny says he is okay but Joy notes that he seems upset. Johnny admits that he’s upset about what he and Joy did and declares that he has to tell his wife the truth. Joy argues that he can’t be serious and calls that the dumbest thing he could do. Joy questions what he’s thinking, pointing out that Chanel has forgiven him and is giving him a second chance. Johnny complains that the guilt is eating him up and he has to make things right to clear his conscience. Joy asks if he thought about how she would be affected as it would put a giant target on her back. Joy argues that it would make Chanel hate her too and they don’t know how far she would go to make them both pay.

Alex comments to Chanel that she and Johnny seem to be back on track. Chanel says they are working on it. Alex says he’s sorry if he had anything to do with it but Chanel says it’s all on Johnny as he was being ridiculous for thinking she would cheat on him. Alex is glad Chanel gave Johnny another chance and talks about relating to being overcome with jealousy. Alex explains that his jealousy over Chad is basically what blew up his relationship with Stephanie in the first place.

Roman questions Paulina referring to Stephanie as Chanel, so Paulina explains that she was joking because of Johnny mistaking Stephanie for Chanel and calls Johnny her idiot son in law. Roman reminds her that he is Johnny’s grandfather so she apologizes but Roman says he understands as he heard what happened and admits that accusing Chanel of having an affair was not Johnny’s greatest moment. Paulina remarks that she doesn’t know what got in to Johnny as he was suddenly acting like a fool, like his jackass father.

Gabi questions what JJ is doing in Salem. JJ responds that he’s apparently saving her from this creep and warns EJ to let it go. EJ tells JJ to back off as this is none of his business. JJ states that EJ putting his hands on Gabi made it his business, so he warns him to let her go or he will have to deal with him. EJ then lets go of Gabi. Gabi calls EJ a son of a bitch. JJ guesses EJ hasn’t changed much and calls him the same pompous ass who mistreats women. EJ argues that Abigail was a willing participant in their affair, just like Gabi was. JJ yells at EJ not to talk about his sister at all. EJ apologizes and says that what happened to Abigail was a terrible tragedy and he knows her impostor caused JJ and her loved ones more pain, so he’s sorry for bringing her up. JJ tells Gabi that the main reason he’s back in Salem is to make sure Cat Green pays for denigrating his sister’s memory. EJ is afraid he made the trip for nothing then because the charges against Cat Green have been dropped and she’s a free woman.

Johnny asks Joy why Chanel would blame her when she didn’t even know each other when they met. Joy points out that she pretended not to know Johnny and that Chanel will hate her for lying which sucks because she really likes her. Joy adds that Chanel’s stepfather is the producer of Body and Soul, so she worries if this gets out, she will be off the show. Johnny insists that Chanel won’t get her fired. Joy is not so sure, but says if not, Kate will definitely want her gone since Stephanie was almost fired for sleeping with a co worker and she barely dodged that bullet.

Chanel asks Alex about he and Stephanie having something again recently. Alex says that was until Kate and Abe laid down the law. Chanel notes that he doesn’t sound happy about it. Alex blows it off as being whatever. Chanel remembers the last time they spoke about this, she asked if he wanted to be more than friends with benefits with Stephanie and he said he didn’t know what she wanted. Chanel asks if Alex asked her. Alex responds that he didn’t have to because Stephanie made it very clear that she didn’t want to be more than friends, although she recently admitted that she was jealous when she thought he might be sleeping with a co-worker. Chanel argues that means Stephanie has real feelings for him. Chanel thinks it’s safe to say that Alex feels something for Stephanie too and asks if she’s right.

Stephanie tells Paulina that Johnny’s mistake was partly her fault and Alex’s, since Johnny never would’ve mistaken her for Chanel if she and Alex hadn’t acted inappropriately. Paulina assures that she doesn’t blame her and Alex. Paulina then asks when Stephanie and Alex started shaking the sheets again. Roman goes to get Paulina’s food started. Stephanie then tells Paulina that the incident at the hospital was the start of her and Alex starting things up again, but it ended as quickly as it started. Paulina mentions hearing that Abe and Kate put a stop to work place relationships. Paulina acknowledges that she’d had to lay down that law at times on mayor. Paulina imagines that’s hard on Stephanie but she claims it isn’t because she and Alex are better off as friends.

Jada’s gift to Rafe is returning his commissioner badge. Rafe asks if she’s sure she’s okay with this after getting used to being in charge and he knows she enjoyed it. Jada says she did, but she’s very happy to let Rafe be the boss in the work place again. Jada jokes that at home, he answers to her as they kiss.

Rafe and Jada join Paulina at the Brady Pub. Paulina notices Jada’s ring which excites her as she congratulates them. Roman congratulates Rafe and asks when he popped the question. Rafe says it was yesterday and they’ve been celebrating ever since. Roman says it won’t stop here and tells them that their food is on the house as he takes their order. Paulina tells Jada and Rafe that she’s so happy for them and wants to hear all the details after they finish their duty. Rafe assures that he’s been cleared by the doctors, so as soon as Paulina allows him, he is ready to resume his commissioner duties immediately. Paulina reveals that she’s given that a lot of thought and has decided that’s not a good idea.

Alex tells Chanel that he thinks Stephanie is great, smart, funny, and beautiful and the first woman he ever gave his heart too but that was a long time ago and a lot has happened since then, so he doesn’t want either of them getting hurt again. Alex calls Stephanie amazing and the best person he knows. Chanel jokes that she asked a yes or no question but he gave her an improvised sonnet. Chanel teases Alex that they should call Leo and write that in for his character to say. Stephanie arrives and asks what they are talking about. Chanel claims that Alex was just praising her acting ability. Chanel says she needs to go run lines with her other scene partner, so she’ll see them around as she walks away. Alex asks Stephanie what brings her to set. Stephanie responds that she needs a huge favor from him.

Joy tells Johnny that he doesn’t understand since her mother already thinks she makes a mess out of everything and getting fired from the show before it even airs would only prove her right. Johnny states that he doesn’t want that to happen to her. Joy asks about it going wrong for Johnny too if he tells Chanel about them and then she doesn’t forgive him and ends their marriage over this. Joy tells Johnny that he has to keep his mouth shut for both of their sakes. Chanel then comes in and asks what’s going on in here.

Gabi asks what the hell is wrong with EJ for letting Cat go free. EJ reveals he already let her go. JJ questions how he could let that happen. EJ says it’s none of his business. JJ complains about Cat pretending to be his dead sister and trying to kill Chad for his money, but EJ’s going to just let her walk and says it doesn’t make any sense. EJ tells JJ that if he doesn’t like it, he can file a complaint with city hall. JJ grabs EJ and says he’ll file a complaint right now. EJ warns him to back off but JJ then punches EJ. Gabi gets in between them to separate them. EJ threatens to have JJ arrested for assault. Gabi remarks that he said the same thing to her, but he can’t abuse his power when there’s an eye witness. Gabi threatens to say EJ shoved JJ first and initiated the fight. EJ declares that neither of them are worth the trouble and storms off. JJ tells Gabi that he doesn’t get why he would let Cat go. Gabi remarks that EJ gets a kick out of putting innocent people away. JJ says he’s sorry as he can’t believe she went to prison for a crime she didn’t commit. Gabi blames EJ for it and says if he hadn’t railroaded her, she wouldn’t have lost a year of her life or her marriage.

Joy tells Chanel that she and Johnny were just having a little disagreement about an upcoming scene but she pleaded her case and asks if Johnny came around to her line of thinking. Johnny responds that he sees her point and will defer to her for now. Joy says that’s great and thanks him as she thinks it’s best for her character. Chanel says she came to see if Joy wanted to run lines for their scenes next week since it will be her first time on camera and she wants to make sure she’s comfortable. Joy calls Chanel the best. Chanel tells Johnny that she will see him at home as they hug.

Alex asks Stephanie what the favor is. Stephanie talks about pitching an idea for a photoshoot with a well known magazine and she didn’t know if it would go through but they just called, only it has to be right now because they had a cancellation. Stephanie asks Alex if he’d be willing to come back to the Body and Soul studio with her to take some photos, noting that it could be great publicity for the show and for him. Alex asks if she wants him to get Chanel or Joy, but Stephanie reveals this photoshoot is boys only because it’s for Playgal.

Rafe assures Paulina that any fears she may have about his recovery, he is more than ready to get back to work and all doctors have approved. Jada vouches that Rafe has fully recovered and is perfectly healthy. Paulina says she has no doubts about that, so Rafe doesn’t understand. Paulina calls Rafe an excellent cop and she’s thrilled that he’s ready to rejoin the force, but since the department is short staffed, she needs Rafe back at the station as a detective and she wants Jada to stay on as commissioner. Jada tells Paulina that she agreed to stand in for Rafe during his recovery but she never intended to replace him permanently. Paulina knows it might be awkward for them but she believes it’s the right move. Paulina adds that she strongly appreciates a black woman in charge but this goes beyond that. Paulina notes that since Jada has taken over, she’s been taking names and crime is down while also overseeing many high profile cases including the murder of Li Shin and the recent apprehension of Vivian Alamain which she calls impressive. Jada assures that she’s flattered but she’s going to decline because she can’t take Rafe’s job. Paulina argues that the job doesn’t belong to Rafe, but to whoever she sees fit to give it to and that’s Jada. Paulina tells Rafe that this is not personal as he’s a great cop but things have been running smoothly in his absence, so she sees no reason to upend that and hopes he understands. Paulina then gets a text and says she has to go on a Mayoral emergency. Roman offers to box up her food but Paulina says there’s no time and takes the whole plate as she hurries out. Roman calls Paulina definitely unpredictable which Rafe agrees with.

Chanel asks Joy if she was able to move in at the Pub. Joy confirms that she was and calls it so kind of Chanel to let her and Nancy crash her and Johnny’s dinner. Chanel assures that they enjoyed the company. Chanel adds that she and Johnny promised Nancy that they would look after Joy, so she invites her over for dinner so they can all get to know each other even better.

EJ goes home to the DiMera Mansion and holds an ice pack to his face. Johnny walks in and asks what happened to him. EJ says it’s not worth talking about. EJ mentions hearing about Johnny’s disastrous birthday party and he’s sorry. Johnny says he’s the one who is sorry as he really screwed up. Johnny says he’s not usually so insecure and jealous, so he doesn’t know what came over him. EJ says it happens to the best of them. EJ assures that Johnny and Chanel will get through it as he just jumped to conclusions and said some unkind words. Johnny then reveals there’s more to it, as Chanel doesn’t know it, but he did something egregious and really stupid.

Gabi sits with JJ in the town square and holds ice on his hand. JJ asks Gabi if her fight with EJ was about him sending her to prison when she was innocent. Gabi says she confronted EJ about his role in the end of her marriage which JJ questions. Gabi informs him that her divorce papers are being filed as they speak. JJ says he’s sorry about that. Gabi thanks him and says it was so good of him to stand up for her with EJ. Gabi asks JJ if that means all is forgiven between them. JJ brings up Gabi tampering with Julie’s pacemaker and putting her life in jeopardy. JJ says a lot of time has gone by. Gabi knows it’s not possible to forgive and says she shouldn’t have asked. JJ admits he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t still angry about that because the memory is still painful to him. Gabi tells JJ that she’s still really angry with herself for sinking so low, but insists that’s not who she is anymore. Gabi knows words are cheap but says she really has been working on herself as she’s determined to be a better person which JJ says he’s glad to hear. Gabi asks if that means JJ will give her a chance to prove to him that she’s changed which JJ agrees to do. JJ believes Gabi is sincere in wanting to be a better person. Gabi assures that she is and thanks him again for coming to her rescue. JJ reminds Gabi that she rescued him once before too, so he owed her one. Gabi guesses he’s talking about Christmas Eve years ago. JJ calls that the darkest moment of his life and Gabi was there for him. Gabi says she was just being a friend. JJ calls it more than that as she saved his life, so in spite of it all, he will always be very grateful to her.

Stephanie goes to the Body and Soul studio and makes a call to confirm the model has agreed to the shoot and that they are very excited. Alex comes in and tells her that he doesn’t think he can do this. Stephanie questions what’s wrong. Alex complains that he looks ridiculous, dressed as Robin Hood, since his character’s name is Arrow. Stephanie insists he looks fine. Alex worries about it being too much. Stephanie jokes with him about being self conscious. Alex doesn’t want to look stupid. Stephanie tells him that he looks hot and sexy as hell. Stephanie helps him with his costume and they get close before being interrupted by Stephanie getting a text that the photographer is there so she has to go let him in. Alex guesses there’s no turning back down. Stephanie assures that Alex looks great and thanks him for doing this. Alex says anything for her.

Gabi hopes JJ’s hand doesn’t hurt too much. JJ says he’ll be fine and thanks her. JJ says he better get going as he needs to get to the bottom of this Cat Green fiasco and he’s sure Chad has a lot to say about it. Gabi asks him to keep her posted and says it was really good to see him again. JJ says the same as he walks away.

Jada assures Rafe that this isn’t what she wanted.

Joy tells Chanel that it’s such a kind offer but she’s worried that Johnny might be annoyed by her because of earlier. Chanel insists that he’ll get over it and that Johnny is in the doghouse and wants back in her good graces, so he has to do whatever she wants and she wants Joy to come over for dinner. Chanel says she won’t take no for an answer so Joy accepts the invite.

EJ asks Johnny what he did that was so stupid and egregious. Johnny tells EJ that he cannot say a word to anyone. Johnny then informs EJ that he made a huge mistake, explaining that he thought Chanel was cheating on him, so in return, he cheated on her.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Brady went to confront Kristen. He told her Sarah told him she used the serum to force Xander to give her Titan. Kristen admitted that she didn’t have a choice because she had to prove herself to the DiMera board since she’s under a microscope. Brady told her everything was about greed, money, and herself to which she said wasn’t true. Kristen said she did it for him. He didn’t understand what she was talking about. She explained that when she had Titan, she would give him Basic Black. He had trouble believing that she asked Xander to hand over Titan so he could control part of it. She said she was doing it for their family and that Rachel wants them to be together. Kristen asked him to consider making their relationship work for Rachel’s sake. Brady said Victor was his family and he wouldn’t Titan under DiMera’s control. He said her dream of wanting their family together wouldn’t happen like this. Kristen asked if they could be together if she didn’t want Titan in exchange for the serum. He said he wasn’t confirming that but he refused to get back together with her if she used the serum the way she was. Kate talked to Philip on the phone and told him that Vivian was arrested. Kate said Vivian didn’t say anything about the letter so their secret was safe. When Xander walked in Kate’s office, she told Philip she would call him back. He told her Philip was keeping him from making the deal with Kristen so he wanted her to put a stop to it. Kate refused to do it and said she supported Philip trying to save his father’s company. Xander said she better change her mind or the soap opera would be history because he would buy every streaming service available and cancel the soap opera. Kate thought that would be a risky move and called his bluff. She suggested that he let Philip run Titan and he did something else. When she refused to help him, he walked out of her office. Philip went to the Kiriakis mansion to see how Maggie was doing since it was her anniversary. When Sarah was nice to him, Philip was surprised that she would be nice to him since he was the reason why she didn’t have the serum. Sarah said she understood why he did it because she didn’t want Xander to give Titan to Kristen. She said he would do anything to get the serum. Philip said that would explain why he tried to kill him.

Philip told Sarah what happened with Xander. Sarah was shocked. When Philip checked the time, he said he had to go. He said he liked her and didn’t want to make things worse for her and Xander, but Xander’s actions were irrational. After they finished talking, Philip left. Kate met up with Philip at the Salem Inn. She told him about what happened with Xander and how he was trying to undermine her. Philip said he did the same thing to him. He told her what Xander did to him and how he told Sarah about it. Xander went home to see Sarah. She told him that Philip was there and told her how he tried to kill him. Xander said Philip was exaggerating to which Sarah said she knew he held the gun and pulled the trigger. Xander said Philip asked for it. Sarah said the violence had to stop because they couldn’t live this way. She said her walking again wasn’t worth throwing his life away. Brady showed up at the mansion and said he tried to reason with Kristen. Kristen spoke to Stefano’s portrait and thought he would have been proud of Brady for giving her an ultimatum of choosing between love and money. She said she hoped she did the right thing. Xander thanked Brady for trying to reason with Kristen and thought she turned him down. Brady said she didn’t and gave Sarah the serum. At the pub, Steve and Roman talked about Vivian getting arrested. While they were talking, they talked about Clyde’s escape. Steve said Clyde called Chad and told him something. He thought Chad was hiding something and probably thought he could handle Clyde. Roman didn’t think Clyde would help Chad. Steve said he might have if something was in it for him. They thought Chad and Clyde made a deal. Chad met EJ at the police station. He asked EJ why the charges against Cat weren’t dropped. EJ said he didn’t understand why Chad would want to do that after what she did. He told EJ that Clyde said he would tell him where Abby’s remains were if the charges against Cat were dropped. EJ asked why he would help Cat. Chad said he didn’t want to help her. He wanted her to suffer. EJ asked why he wanted the charges dropped. He thought Cat should pay for what she did. Chad said he wanted here to pay, but he didn’t want her blood on his hands and didn’t want her to die. He said he was going to make Clyde think he was helping him, but was going to make sure he didn’t get Cat. EJ didn’t like the plan and thought it was dangerous. Chad agreed that it was dangerous, but he had to do it. EJ said Paulina was going to be upset with him, but the charges were dropped and Cat was released. He warned Chad to be careful.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Johnny was on the set and thought about Joy giving him back his wedding ring. Alex approached him and wondered if he was ready for him to sleep with his wife. Johnny knew he was kidding, but he wished Alex realized it was a trigger for him after everything that happened. Alex informed him that things weren’t any better for him and Stephanie. Hopefully a war won’t happen while they’re working together. Johnny promised to be professional and apologized for messing things up with him and Stephanie. Chanel showed up and Johnny apologized for how he treated his wife. EJ brought Cat to the interrogation room and let Chad know that he dropped the charges against her. He was appalled by the things Cat did to Chad and Abby’s family. EJ uncuffed her and left Chad and Abby alone. Chad told her why she was free. He wanted to see her rot in prison for life, but he couldn’t because Clyde escaped. Chad informed her that Clyde wanted her out if he was going to find out what happened to Abby’s body. Cat was surprised to find out that Chad hated her like that. A part of Chad wanted to hand her over to Clyde, but he couldn’t sign her death warrant. Julie was about to make soup for Doug when JJ arrived at the Horton house. She was excited to see him again. They talked about what happened in Paris. Julie was confident that Cat would remain in jail for a long time.

Javi was grateful that Gabi gave him a job, but he didn’t want to be an errand boy. She gave him instructions while he received a text from Leo. Gabi gave him divorce papers to take to the courthouse. It didn’t bother her on outside, but she was brokenhearted about her marriage ending. EJ arrived after Javi left. Joy found Leo and called him the man who destroyed her marriage. He didn’t know what she meant by that. He noticed Javi’s text and winked at him. Leo asked her about her parents. She told him that she was Craig and Nancy’s daughter. Leo apologized for what he did. It wasn’t his intention to be a homewrecker. Joy couldn’t judge because she was a homewrecker too. Chanel confessed to Alex that she was having trouble with their love scene, but she was determined to get through it. She knew the men would get through it too. They got to work on their scenes. Johnny flashed back to passionately kissing Joy. Julie told JJ that Doug wasn’t doing well because of what happened with Abby. She said that he is dealing with a bad cold. He would be fine in no time. They couldn’t believe that Doug was 98. She felt that it was a blessing to still have him in her life. It was a segue to JJ’s personal life. JJ admitted that he wasn’t seeing anyone. Julie believed that he would find someone soon. EJ and Gabi argued over who was responsible for why they slept together. He reminded her that she came on to him. She believed he knew she wasn’t in her right frame of mind. EJ didn’t know when she was ever in her right frame of mind. She didn’t want him to talk any more. Gabi thought he should have stopped her when she came on to him. EJ enjoyed making Stefan pay by sleeping with his wife. Growing tired of the things he said, she slapped him knocking off his feet. Leo begged Joy to tell him about the person she slept with. Javi arrived and Joy went to the set. Leo admitted to him that he slept with Joy’s father. Chad let Cat know that he was using her as bait. He promised to protect her but there weren’t any guarantees. She agreed to do whatever he wanted. Cat owed him, and she thought it could lead to her finding her mother. She wondered if her brother could get out of jail. Chad reminded her that he tried to shoot him. She understood and wondered if he would be able to work with her. If he could find his wife, he would put up with working with her. Joy found Johnny on the set alone. He regretted what they did and wanted to tell Chanel what he did. Chad brought Cat to the Horton House much to Julie’s surprise. Gabi was about to slap EJ again, but he grabbed her arm. JJ walked up to them and demanded that he let go of her.

Interview with Isaiah Mustafa and Ben Watkins  of “Cross” on Prime by Suzanne 10/29/24

I enjoyed speaking with one of the main actors, and the showrunner, of this great new series. I’ve spoken with the main star, Aldis Hodge, years ago (when he was in “Leverage”). Sadly, I did not get that chance this time.

Hodges stars as Alex Cross, the forensic psychiatrist and detective featured in James Patterson novels (and some movies). Aldis was one of my first one-on-one interviews, so it was memorable. He’s always very nice. I also spoke with him in 2011 and 2012.

Mustafa and Wakins, whom I interviewed recently, also were a joy to speak with. Mustafa is a former football player but has become quite a good actor. He plays John Sampson, Mustafa’s close friend and fellow detective. Ben Watkins created, wrote and executive produced the show. He’s worked on some of my favorites, including “Hand of God” and “Burn Notice”.

These are audio-only, even though I did speak with them on video. I didn’t realize that they were only going to send me the audio until yesterday (that was my mistake for not making sure). Oops!

You should definitely check out this series’ first season, which drops Nov. 14 and has already been renewed for season 2. It is a thrilling drama that everyone should enjoy. It also stars Ryan Eggold (“New Amsterdam”), Alona Tal, and Johnny Ray Gill.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

You know, Gabi, I could have an officer here in two minutes, frothing at the mouth, to arrest you for assaulting Salem’s District Attorney.

Well, I ought to leave a mark then, don’t you think?

Don’t you dare.

Hey, get your hands off her! Now!

JJ?

[dramatic music]

And then when I said yes, everyone in the hospital started clapping. Yeah, it was like something from out of a movie. No, no, no. Don’t you start crying. I just did my makeup.

[chuckles] Right. OK, well, I bet– I better let you go then. OK. I miss you, and I love you, Sis. Tell Mom I said hi too.

[phone beeps]

Was that Talia?

Yes, I was giving her all the details on your beautiful proposal. And I sent her a picture of the ring, and she loved it, as do I.

Well, I’m glad. Although I can’t actually take credit for it because I didn’t– I didn’t really pick it out.

Yeah, but the fact that it’s a family heirloom, that makes it even more special.

[tender music]

Whoa. What’s this? Just a little something I got you. You know, my handsome fiancé. I mean, I didn’t pick it, but it’s just as special.

Oh, yeah?

Well, Paulina, what can I get for you today?

Oh, well, Rafe and Jada, they’re joining me for lunch, so I’ll just wait till they get here to order, but in the meantime, oh, let’s start with a basket of mozzarella sticks. I’m treating myself since I just got a clean bill of health from my doctor.

Oh, my God, that’s great news.

Ooh, yes, it is. And I am beyond relieved, as you can imagine, you know, given all the medical issues that I’ve been dealing with not so long ago. But they checked everything, from my heart to my brain, and it looks like I’ll be sticking around for a while.

Well, I am very happy to hear that.

[laughs] Whew. Oh.

[laughs] Well, if it isn’t my beautiful daughter, Chanel. Come give– give your Mama a hug.

[tense music]

Oh, did I tell you I met Joy? She seems pretty cool.

Yeah. Yeah, Joy is super nice. I really like her.

I think I kind of freaked her out a little bit though.

What? What happened?

I don’t know. I– I said something like her being a thorn in your side, and her reaction was like I meant it in real life. Obviously, I was talking about her character, your character on the show.

Right, on the show.

Hmm.

I wonder why she thought you meant in real life.

I don’t know. Maybe she thought you might mix up real life with make-believe, kind of like your man Johnny did.

Ooh. Yeah, that’s probably it. And considering that I am not inclined to do so, she can go after my man all she wants.

On the show.

Right. On the show.

Hey, Johnny. I just met Alex. I heard you just directed the first big love scene between him and Chanel. Or Faith and Arrow, that is.

Yeah.

It went OK?

Yeah. Yeah, it went fine.

Then what’s wrong? You seem upset.

Yeah. Yeah, I– I am upset. All right, not– not about what Alex and Chanel did in that scene. I’m upset about what you and I did in real life. Look, Joy, I’ve got to tell my wife the truth.

You– you can’t be serious. That is the dumbest thing that you could do.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Johnny, what are you thinking? Chanel has given you another chance. She doesn’t know about us. Why would you risk blowing it up again?

Because– because– because the guilt is eating away at me, OK? The whole time I was directing that love scene between Alex and Chanel, all I could think about was what happened in your hotel room, OK? I got to make things right. I’ve got to clear my conscience.

Well, that’s all well and great for you, but what about me? Did you think about how maybe I would be affected? You would be putting a giant target on my back.

You’re not in a relationship, are you?

I am, in fact. I’m in a relationship with my employer, “Body & Soul.” I’m in a relationship with my new coworkers, my director, my castmates, including your wife, Johnny, who wouldn’t just be mad at you. She would hate me too. And who knows how far she would go to make us both pay?

[tense music]

[sighs]

Speaking of your man, you and Johnny seem to be back on track, huh?

Uh, we’re working on it.

Good. Chanel, I’m sorry, again, if anything that happened had to do with me.

Oh, no way, dude. That is all on him, OK? He was just being ridiculous. Thinking that I would cheat on him?

Yeah, well, I’m glad you gave him another chance. I, for one, totally understand the fragile male ego kryptonite known as jealousy. It’s what ruined my relationship with Stephanie. When we first got involved a while back, my jealousy of Chad is pretty much what blew things up between us.

Paulina, I– I think maybe the doctors forgot to check your eyes. This is Stephanie, not your daughter, Chanel.

Her eyes are fine, Roman. Here is that report you requested.

OK, I– I don’t follow.

I was making a joke. Didn’t mean to offend you, Stephanie.

That’s OK. Haven’t lost my sense of humor.

Oh, well, I’m glad to hear that. And of course, I can tell the difference between you and Chanel. I mean, who couldn’t? Oh, wait. Oh, that’s right. My idiot son-in-law.

OK, now I follow. So I will quickly remind the mayor that, uh, the guy who is preparing her meal happens to be that idiot’s grandfather.

Oh, right. Sorry.

You know what? It’s OK. It’s OK. I heard about what happened, and I have to agree. Accusing Chanel of having an affair was not Johnny’s greatest moment.

Oh, I don’t know what has gotten into that boy. He’s normally– uh, he’s a sweetie pie, but then all of a sudden, he’s acting a fool, just like his jackass father.

JJ, what are you doing in Salem?

Saving you from this creep, apparently. EJ, I said let her go.

Back off, JJ. This is none of your damn business.

You putting your hands on her made it my business, so I suggest you remove your hand from her wrist right now, or you’re gonna have to deal with me.

[tense music]

You son of a bitch.

So you haven’t changed much. Still the same pompous ass who mistreats women.

Huh. If you’re referring to my past with your sister, there was no mistreatment. Abigail was a willing participant in our affair, just as Gabi was. Actually, they were both eager participants.

Hey! You don’t talk about my sister like that. You don’t talk about her at all, you hear me?

[exhales deeply] I’m sorry.

What happened to your sister was a terrible tragedy, and I know that her imposter has caused you and her loved ones more pain, and I do apologize for bringing her into this.

Yeah, well, you damn well should. And to answer your question, Gabi, about why I’m back in Salem– well, the main reason is to make sure Cat Greene pays for denigrating my sister’s memory.

Oh, dear. Then I’m afraid you made the trip for nothing.

What does that mean?

That means that the charges against Cat Greene have been dropped. She’s a free woman.

Why would Chanel blame you for what happened between us? You didn’t even know who she was the night you met me.

Yes. But then I started working with her, and I pretended that I didn’t know you from Adam, when I got the job. Johnny, she will hate me for lying, which sucks because I really like her. And her stepfather is the producer, for God’s sake. If this gets out, I’m gone, written out, recast, killed off, whatever.

Look, hold on. Chanel is not gonna get you fired, OK?

I don’t know about that. And if she doesn’t, then Kate Brady will definitely want me gone. Publicist, Stephanie? I heard that she was almost let go for sleeping with one of her coworkers. She barely dodged that bullet, Johnny. I might not be so lucky.

OK, but you and Stephanie had something going on again recently.

Until Kate and Abe laid down the law– no fraternizing among employees.

Which you don’t sound happy about.

Hmm. It’s whatever.

Oh, it’s whatever. Mm-hmm. Yeah, the last time you and I spoke about you and Stephanie, I remember asking you if you wanted to be more than just friends with benefits with her.

I remember the conversation, yeah.

Uh-huh. And I also remember you answering evasively, saying that you weren’t sure how she felt, and then I suggested that you ask her. Did you ever do that?

I didn’t have to, Chanel. Because Stephanie made it clear many, many times that she wanted to remain friends.

Mm-hmm.

Although…

Although what?

After our most, uh, recent indiscretion, she admitted that she was jealous when she thought I might be sleeping with a castmate.

[soft dramatic music]

OK then. I mean, you have your answer, right? I mean, obviously, if she’s feeling jealous about something like that, it’s because she has real feelings for you. Hello?

Maybe.

Uh-huh. And then judging from our previous conversation, and now this one, I think it’s safe to say that you feel something for her too. Am I right?

[exhales]

Actually, Johnny’s mistake was partly my fault and Alex’s. Johnny never would have mistaken me for Chanel if Alex and I hadn’t acted inappropriately that day in the hospital set.

Oh, oh, no, no, please. Please, I don’t hold you and Alex responsible in the slightest, and as for my little joke, consider it retired.

Thank you.

Uh, but you know what? Uh, while we’re on the subject, um, why don’t– why don’t you sit down and dish a bit? So since when did you and Mr. Ab-tastic start shaking the sheets again?

You know what? I’m gonna start, uh, on those mozzarella sticks, OK?

[chuckles]

Ah. Guess he wasn’t interested, huh?

Guess not. Uh, but since you obviously are, um, I will tell you that, uh, that incident at the hospital, um, it was actually the start of us, starting things back up again between me and Alex.

[relaxed music] But it– it ended as quickly as it started.

Oh. Yeah, right. Yeah, I heard that, uh, my husband and Kate put the kibosh on workplace relationships. Ooh, ooh. And, you know, I completely understand. I’ve had– I’ve had to lay down that law from time to time myself as mayor. But I imagine it’s kind of hard on you, huh?

No. No, it isn’t, actually. Um, Alex and I are– are better off as friends.

Ah, my commissioner badge. Yes.

All yours again.

Sure you OK with this? I know you probably got used to being in charge.

What, are you worried that just because I got a little taste of it, that I’m not able to let it go?

No. No. It’s just, uh, I know you enjoyed it.

Yeah, I did. I did. But you know what? I’m very happy to let you be boss again. In the workplace, that is.

Uh-huh.

Because here, you answer to me. Now, come here.

Yes, ma’am.

[sensual music]

And bang, here you go.

Mmm-mmm. Oh.

Sorry. Are we late?

Oh, no, no, no. Not at all. And since I got here so early, I took the liberty of ordering an appetizer, which you are welcome to share.

Ooh, don’t mind if I do.

Oh, wait. Hold up right there, missy. Is that what I think it is?

It is.

Oh, my goodness! Oh, congratulations, you two. Oh, what wonderful news. Oh.

All right. Congratulations, partner.

Thank you.

When did you pop the question?

Ah, yesterday. Been celebrating ever since.

All right. It doesn’t stop here, OK? Lunch is on the house. What will you have?

Oh. Well, you know, I’ll have a burger. Usual fixings, please.

Ooh, make that two. Thank you.

Yeah, what the hell? Make it three.

All right, coming right up.

Great.

Oh, wow. I’m so happy for you two. Oh, and I want to hear all the details, but maybe we should save that for after, uh, you know, when we get down to business.

Yeah, OK. Yeah, all right. We’ll jump right in then. Um, OK, yeah. So, just so you know, the doctors gave me the all-clear, and, uh– so as soon as you give me your permission, Mayor Price, I am ready to resume my commissioner duties immediately.

Mm-hmm.

Well, about that, you know, I’ve given that matter a lot of thought, and I’ve decided that’s not a good idea.

[relaxed music]

Do I have feelings for Stephanie? Hmm. What I can tell you, I think she’s great. I do know that. She’s easy to be around. She’s smart. She’s funny. She’s beautiful. First woman I ever gave my heart to.

[tender music] But that was a long time ago. A lot’s happened since then. So I don’t want either of us getting hurt again, especially not Stephanie. She’s just– she’s amazing. She’s the best person I know, in fact.

[laughs] Oh, my God. Alex.

What?

I mean, it was a yes or no question, but you just gave me a whole improvised sonnet.

Oh, my God. All right, is it– is it too late? Can I plead the fifth instead? Maybe a redo? Can I go again?

No way, bro, no. It is all out there now. You know what? We should call Leo, and we should ask him to write that in for your character so Arrow can say that.

Just stop, please, right now. Just please. Enough. Oy.

Hey, guys.

Uh–

What you talking about?

We, uh– we were just–

Hmm.

Uh–

We just, uh, finished shooting, and we were just, uh, talking, and Alex was complimenting me on my amazing acting ability, which I felt was a little bit overboard.

No. No.

Anyway, um, I need to go run lines with my other scene partner for next week, so I will see you two around.

All right.

All right.

What’s going on? What brings you to set?

You, actually.

Oh.

I need a huge favor.

Johnny, you don’t understand. My mother already thinks that I make a mess of everything, and getting myself fired from the show before it even airs will just prove her right.

I don’t want that to happen to you either.

Then don’t say anything. Please. And, Johnny, you think you’re being so honorable, but what if this ruins things for you too? What if you tell Chanel about us, and she doesn’t forgive you? What if she ends your marriage over this?

[tense music] You have got to keep your mouth shut, Johnny. Please. For both of our sakes.

Hey. What’s going on in here?

[sighs]

What the hell is wrong with you, EJ? You can’t let that lying snake go free.

Oh, I already did. Cat Greene was released from police custody right before I ran into you.

Oh, my God.

How could you let that happen?

This is also none of your business.

This is none of my business? That woman tried to pass herself off as my dead sister. She conspired with her brother to kill yours and steal your family’s money, and you’re just– you’re just gonna let her walk? That makes zero sense.

If you don’t like it, file a complaint with City Hall.

How about I file a complaint right now?

Back off. Oh!

[screams]

That’s enough!

[grunts]

I could have arrested for assault, you fool.

He said the same thing to me earlier. There’s just one problem. It’s hard to abuse one’s power when there’s an eyewitness. I’d testify that you shoved him first. You initiated the fight.

[tense music]

[sniffs]

Neither of you are worth the trouble.

[spits]

Damn it. I just– I don’t– I don’t get it. Why would he let Cat Greene go?

No idea. Could it be because she’s possibly guilty? The DA gets a kick out of putting innocent people away.

So I’ve heard. I’m– I’m sorry, Gabi. I– I can’t– I can’t believe you went to prison for a crime you didn’t commit.

Yeah. It’s all thanks to that man. If he hadn’t railroaded me, I wouldn’t have lost a year of my life, and I’d still have my marriage.

Everything all right?

Yeah.

Yeah, yeah, your husband and I were just having a little disagreement about an upcoming scene.

Oh? Oh, I see.

But I have pled my case already, and it’s up to him now. So, director, what do you say? Have you come around to my side of thinking?

I see your point.

And I will defer to you. For now.

Great. Thank you. I think that’s best. For my character.

[clears throat]

OK, well, uh, now that that is settled, I came by to see if you wanted to run lines for our scenes next week. I know it’s gonna be your first time on camera, so I just want to make sure you’re comfortable.

That would be great. You’re the best, Chanel.

All right. Well, then, I guess I will see you at home.

Yes, you will.

So what’s the favor?

Well, when I first got this job, I pitched an idea for a photoshoot with this well-known magazine.

OK.

Didn’t think it was going to happen, but I just got the call that they’re willing to do it. The only catch is, it has to happen now. Like, right now.

Right now? Right now? Why– why so last-minute?

I guess they had a cancellation.

Oh.

So would you mind coming back with me to the “Body & Soul” offices to take some photos? It could be really good publicity for the show and for you.

Uh– yeah. I mean, do you want me to go, like, grab Chanel or track down Joy, or–

Actually, this one is boys only.

Why is it boys only?

It’s for “Playgal.”

Oh, God.

[inhales deeply] Hmm.

Mayor Price, I can assure you, any fears that you might have about my recovery, I am more than ready to get back to work. And as I said, all the doctors have given me their approval.

Yeah, Paulina, I’ve been to most of his appointments with him, and I can % vouch that he is fully recovered. Perfectly healthy.

I think you both misunderstood. Now, I have no doubts about Rafe’s health or his abilities to perform the job.

[relaxed music]

Then I don’t understand.

Rafe, you are an excellent cop, and I am thrilled that you’re ready to rejoin the force, but since the PD is short staffed, I need you back at the station as a detective, and I want Jada to stay on as commissioner.

Hmm.

Mayor Price, I agreed to stand in for Rafe as commissioner during his recovery. My intention was never to replace him permanently.

Mm-hmm, I’m sure it wasn’t. And I know this might be awkward for you both, but, uh, I honestly believe that this is the right move, and as much as I do strongly appreciate seeing a Black woman in charge, this goes beyond that.

But Mayor Price, I–

Jada, let me finish, please. Now, since you have taken over since last summer, ooh, you’ve been kicking butt and taking names. Crime is down double digits, and you’ve also, you know, overseen many high-profile cases, though, you know, including the murder of Li Shin and um, you know, the recent apprehension of Vivian Alamain. The record is impressive.

Mayor Price, I am flattered. Really, I am. But I’m afraid I’m going to have to decline. I can’t take Rafe’s job.

Uh, the job doesn’t belong to Rafe. It belongs to whomever I see fit to give it, and that person is you. So like I said now, Rafe, now this is not personal. You’re a great cop, but seeing as how everything’s been running smoothly in your absence, I see no reason to upend that. And, well, you know, I hope you understand.

[phone beeps] Oh. Oh, wait. Oh, you know– oh, I got– I got to deal with a– uh-huh. I got to deal with a mayoral emergency.

OK, no problem. I’ll box this up.

Oh, no, no. I’ll just take mine to go, OK? Oh. Oh, gosh. Oh, you know what? There’s not even any time. Oh. I’ll have this, uh– you know, I’ll have my assistant bring your plate back as soon as I can. I promise. Hmm?

[relaxed music]

[sighs]

That woman is, uh, definitely unpredictable.

Ain’t that the truth?

So how did it go with Roman? Uh, were you able to rent a room at the pub?

Yep, yeah, I moved in last night after we all had dinner, actually. Which, by the way, that was so kind of you to let my mother and I crash your evening with Johnny. I just hope she didn’t talk too much. She has a way of taking over.

Oh, no, no, no. She did not talk too much, OK? Ms. Nancy is a lot of fun. We really enjoyed her company. And speaking of moms, Johnny and I promised yours that we would look after you. So I was thinking, why don’t you come over for dinner tonight? That way, we can all get to know each other even better.

[tense music]

[sighs]

What happened to you?

[sighs] Not worth talking about. Hey, I– I heard about your disastrous birthday party. I’m– I’m sorry.

Yeah, well, I’m the one who’s sorry. I really screwed up, Dad. I– I don’t know. I’m normally not so insecure or jealous, you know? But I just– I– I– I don’t know what came over me.

It happens to the best of us, Son. DiMera men are passionate, to say the least. But I’m sure you and Chanel will work things out. After all, what you did wasn’t so egregious. You merely jumped to the wrong conclusion and said a few unkind words.

Yeah. Well, there’s– there’s actually more to it than that.

What more? What do you mean?

Chanel doesn’t know it, but, uh, there was something I did that actually was egregious and really, really stupid.

[dramatic music]

Here, sit. Give me your hand.

[relaxed music] Are you OK?

Yeah, I’ll live. So the fight with EJ? Was that about how he sent you to prison when you were innocent?

No. It was because I confronted him about the role he played in destroying my marriage.

You and Stefan are calling it quits?

My divorce papers are being filed as we speak.

I’m sorry about that.

Thanks. And JJ, it was so good of you to stand up for me before.

So does that mean all is forgiven between us?

Gabi, um… what you did to Julie, tampering with her pacemaker, putting her very life in jeopardy, I– look, I– I know that a lot of time has gone by since that happened.

But it’s not easy to forgive. I know. Or even possible to forgive. I shouldn’t have asked that question.

It’s OK. Um, I don’t blame you for asking. But I’d be lying if I– if I said that I still wasn’t angry about that– that that memory still isn’t painful for me.

Why wouldn’t you be?

JJ, I’m still really angry with myself that I sank so low. Horrified, actually.

But JJ, that’s not who I am anymore. I know words are cheap, but I really have been working on myself. I want to be a better person. I’m determined to be.

I’m glad to hear that.

So uh, does that mean that you’ll give me a chance to prove to you that I’ve changed?

Yeah. Yeah, I will. I– I believe that you’re sincere in wanting to be a better person.

I am. %.

Thanks again for coming to my rescue earlier.

Well, you rescued me once, too, remember? I owed you one.

Talking about Christmas Eve all those years ago?

I am. That was the darkest moment of my life, and you were there for me.

I was just being a friend.

It was more than that. You saved my life. So in spite of it all, I’m very grateful for you. Always will be.

Yes, most of our hunks have agreed to the shoot. Right, yep, and they will be ready by the time your photographer gets here. No, no. My God, they’re all very excited.

Steph, I don’t think I can do this.

I have to go. I will see you soon.

Oh, what– what do you mean? What do you mean? What’s wrong?

What do you mean, “What’s wrong?” I look ridiculous.

Oh, you don’t. You don’t. It– it– it looks fine. What are you, like, a– a sexy Peter Pan?

I’m Robin Hood. I make the ladies quiver, you know? You get it? My character’s name is Arrow.

Ooh, clever.

Uh-huh, clever. Seriously, though, is this too much?

Alex Kiriakis, are you self-conscious about your body?

No. No, of course not. I just– I don’t want to look stupid.

You don’t look stupid. You look hot. Sexy as hell.

Oh. OK, then, all right. Well, if only we can get this strap to stop digging in my chest.

Ah, maybe I– maybe I can loosen it.

Yeah.

Where’s the– oh.

[sensual music]

Is– is that better?

Mm. Yeah.

[tender music]

[phone beeps]

Oh, photographer’s here. I need to go let him in.

OK. Uh, I guess there’s no turning back now.

Don’t worry. You look great.

[sighs]

Really, really, really, really. And thank you again for doing this.

Anything for you, Steph.

[sighs]

[relaxed music]

I hope your hand doesn’t hurt too much.

Yeah. I’ll be fine. Thank you.

Right, I better get going. I need to get to the bottom of this Cat Greene fiasco, or try. I’m sure Chad has a lot to say about it.

Well, keep me posted, OK?

I will.

It was really good to see you again, JJ.

You too, Gabi.

[soft dramatic music]

Rafe, this isn’t what I wanted.

I know. I know. But it’s clearly what Paulina wants, and what Paulina says goes.

[chuckles] Guess I should consider myself lucky she still wants me as a detective.

[relaxed music]

I– I don’t know what to say.

I do. Congratulations.

Guess this belongs to you now.

[tense music]

That is such a kind offer, but I’m just worried that Johnny might be a little annoyed with me because of earlier.

No, he’ll get– he will get over it, OK? And besides, he’s kind of in the doghouse right now, and he’s trying to get back in my good graces, so that basically means he has to do whatever I want, and what I want is for you to come over to dinner tonight, and I will not take no for an answer, so…

OK, I’m in.

All right. Yay.

John Roman, what did you do that was so stupid and egregious?

OK, look, if I tell you, you cannot say a word to anyone.

Of course not.

Dad, I made a huge mistake.

I thought Chanel was cheating on me, so in return, I, uh– I cheated on her.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Gabi and Javi have lunch in the town square. Gabi gives him duties as her assistant including picking up her dry cleaning and changing the oil in her car. As they continue to talk, Javi gets a text from Leo. Gabi notes he’s distracted and asks if he’s listening to a word she’s saying.

Leo sits outside the Brady Pub as he waits for Javi’s response while working on typing up scripts. Joy comes out from the Pub, so Leo introduces himself as the head writer of Body and Soul. Joy wonders why she knows his name and then realizes he’s the guy who destroyed her parents marriage.

Johnny sits at the hospital and looks at his wedding ring as he thinks back to when Joy returned it to him. Alex comes in and asks if he’s ready for him to sleep with his wife.

EJ brings Cat to Chad in the interrogation room at the police station. Cat asks what Chad is doing there. Chad responds that he needs to talk to her. Cat repeats that she doesn’t know where Abigail’s body is but Chad says this isn’t about that, so she asks what it’s about. EJ then announces he’s dropping the charges against her.

Julie comes downstairs, calling out to Doug that she will be bringing up more chicken soup and comments that there’s nothing wrong with his appetite. JJ Deveraux then shows up at the door, surprising Julie as they embrace.

Gabi asks Javi who he’s texting with. Javi claims he was just noting what she was saying on his phone. Javi tells Gabi that he’s grateful for the job but didn’t realize he’d just be an errand boy. Gabi insists that he’s more than that and then tells him that she will need him to reorganize the online filing system and purge the office of any traces of Connie by next Wednesday. Meanwhile, Javi sends Leo a text back in Spanish.

Leo asks Joy who her parents are. Joy then reveals that her father is Craig Wesley. Leo says that would explain why her mother was in town and admits he wasn’t paying attention to her name. Joy talks about Nancy being devastated when she found out Craig was cheating on her. Leo assures that he knows that and hopes this doesn’t affect their ability to work together. Leo tells Joy that he’s very sorry for what he’s done and he’s in therapy where he’s learned that he didn’t set out to be a homewrecker. Joy asks who she is to judge, remarking that lately she’s become a bit of a homewrecker herself.

Alex clarifies to Johnny that he meant his character sleeping with Chanel’s character. Johnny argues about how that can be triggering for him after he made a fool of himself at his own birthday party and suggests not talking about this. Alex brings up that he was also stupid with Stephanie, making a mistake that they will never do again. Johnny tells Alex that he and Stephanie are none of his business. Alex says that Johnny and Chanel are his business since they work together, so he hopes there won’t be a war which Johnny promises. Johnny apologizes to Alex if his outburst messed things up for he and Stephanie. Johnny adds that he’s especially sorry for what he did to Chanel, right as Chanel walks in.

Cat questions why EJ is dropping the charges. EJ responds that he will let Chad elaborate, but assures that he is disgusted and appalled by what Cat did to Chad and the rest of Abigail’s family. EJ removes the handcuffs from Cat and tells her to enjoy the freedom that she doesn’t deserve as he exits the room. Cat imagines Chad isn’t just having the charges dropped out of the goodness of his heart. Chad confirms he’d much rather see her rot in prison for the rest of her life, but he can’t. Cat asks why not.

Gabi gives Javi her divorce papers to take to the courthouse. Javi asks if she’s sure she’s ready to do this. Gabi states that she and Stefan both signed them, so it’s over and as soon as they are filed, she will officially be divorced. Javi says he’s sorry as he knows it’s not what she wanted. Gabi tells him to get to it, so Javi exits as EJ approaches and greets Gabi. Gabi asks what the hell he wants.

Leo questions Joy saying she’s a homewrecker too and jokes that maybe she’s just being in character. Joy assures that she’s talking about real life. Leo admits he’s intrigued and asks whose home she wrecked.

Chanel apologizes for being late and tells Alex and Johnny that she’s having a bit of a hard time gearing up for doing a love scene with Alex in front of Johnny, but says she’s a professional so they will power through it. Chanel assures everything will be okay because it’s all just make believe. Alex asks if they can get the show on the road then.

Julie thinks it’s wonderful that JJ was at Chad’s wedding and able to stop the fraud that Cat was pulling on the whole family. JJ only wishes they figured it out before he pronounced them man and wife. Julie assures the marriage isn’t valid, but calls it one more heartache that Chad doesn’t need right now. Julie declares that Cat is now behind bars with Mark and she’s confident that EJ and Chad will make sure she stays there for a very long time.

Cat asks Chad the reason why he can’t just let her rot in jail forever. Chad informs her that Clyde escaped while being transferred to his appeal. Cat questions Chad talking to Clyde. Chad confirms that Clyde called, so he asked where he could find Abigail’s remains, and he told him that he would tell him under the one condition that he hand Cat over to him.

Julie tells JJ that she’s so glad he’s here. JJ says he had to come as he needs to know what happened to his sister’s body and he wanted to see how his family was doing. Julie thanks him for caring. JJ asks about Doug, calling him his favorite person in the world as being around him always lifts his spirits. Julie says she will tell him that to put a smile on his face. JJ asks if Doug is doing okay. Julie admits he’s not too well today as he really believed Abigail was alive and now he has a bad cold. Julie insists that Doug will be up and about in no time. JJ comments on Doug being 98 years old now. Julie believes every day with Doug is a blessing.

Cat questions why Clyde wants her. Chad imagines Clyde is angry because Cat failed to deliver the DiMera fortune. Cat asks if Clyde wants revenge on her aside from what he’s probably already done to her mother. Cat questions Chad having EJ drop the charges against her, just to throw her to the lions and give Clyde what he wants. Chad responds that he needs to know what happened to Abigail and this is the only way. Cat questions this being the only way and if he hates her that much.

Gabi tells EJ that he doesn’t have to say anything and can just be on his way. EJ understands she was upset after finding Stefan’s letter to him and that her feelings were hurt that Stefan wrote a letter to him and not her. Gabi asks if he’s rubbing it in like a child. EJ argues that she acted like a child that day as what she said was irrational when she said she wanted a divorce too. EJ thought he’d give her a chance to apologize for saying the dissolution of her marriage was all his fault. Gabi insists that it was all his fault.

Joy decides she probably shouldn’t even be talking to Leo about this and suggests he forget she even said any thing. Leo says he forgets most things, but not scandalous gossip. Leo talks about being a world renowned gossip columnist but he gave that all up to be a TV writer. Leo suggests that Joy can tell him and then maybe he could incorporate it in to a juicy story for her character. Javi then walks up and greets Leo. They joke about running in to each other. Leo introduces Javi to Joy. Leo tells Javi that he’s sorry for not responding to his text. Javi admits he was worried he was blowing him off. Joy says she has to get to set and says it was so nice meeting them both. Leo tries to remind her that she didn’t tell him what he asked about but Joy hurries off.

Johnny calls for everyone to get in place as he begins directing Alex and Chanel’s scene in the hospital room. As Alex and Chanel kiss in the scene, Johnny thinks back to kissing Joy in her hotel room. They finish the love scene. Johnny tells them it was great and very steamy. Alex leaves to go get changed. Chanel asks Johnny if it wasn’t so bad which he confirms. Chanel admits she was holding her breath waiting for him to call cut, but now that they got through it, it won’t be a problem anymore which Johnny agrees with. Chanel asks if Johnny feels better now. Johnny responds that he actually doesn’t, stating that he’s fine with what they just did but he’s not fine with what he did.

Javi asks Leo about Joy, saying he was getting a vibe. Leo reveals that he slept with Joy’s father and destroyed her parents marriage. Javi jokes that Gabi was right about Leo being a bad boy. Leo feels he’s more of a homewrecker than a bad boy, but then Joy just admitted she’s a homewrecker too. Leo wants to get the low down on whose home she wrecked.

Joy goes to the hospital and meets Alex, who says he heard that she’s going to be a huge thorn in Chanel’s side.

Julie suggests JJ could play his guitar and sing some songs with Doug. JJ remembers when Doug gave him Alice’s wedding ring when he proposed to Lani even though he was jumping in to something he wasn’t ready for and that Doug tried to warn him. JJ asks how Eli and Lani are. Julie says they are great and she keeps hoping they will come visit with the twins. Julie asks JJ if there’s any special person in his life now. JJ says not at the moment. Julie calls him such a handsome and charismatic guy, so she’s sure there will be a lovely lady coming along very soon.

EJ reminds Gabi that she thought her marriage was over when she found out Stefan cheated on her with Ava and that he only slept with Gabi because she seduced him. Gabi argues that he should’ve said no. EJ points out that he did but Gabi complains that he didn’t mean it and was trying to stick it to Stefan. EJ brings up that Gabi was the married one and the one who initiated things with him. EJ adds that Gabi was screaming from the rooftops that she was through with Stefan. Gabi argues that EJ knew she wasn’t in her right mind. EJ asks when she is in her right mind. Gabi calls EJ a son of a bitch and shouts that he should’ve stopped it.

Chad assures Cat that he hates her because at the end of the day, she had the power to stop all of this and she didn’t. Chad understands Clyde was threatening to kill her mother, but that doesn’t mean she couldn’t have maneuvered her way out of it without leading a total stranger to believe his wife was alive. Chad admits part of him wants to let Clyde do his dirty work and that EJ probably would, but he’s not EJ, so he won’t hand Cat over to her death. Cat asks what Chad is going to do.

JJ tells Julie that he has a couple errands to run. Julie points out that he just got here, but noticed he didn’t have a suitcase, so she questions if he’s going to check in to the Salem Inn which he confirms. Julie asks him not to since her, Doug, and the children would love having him around. JJ agrees to stay and decides he will pick up dinner for the night. Julie says it will be wonderful having him and she hopes he stays awhile this time. JJ says they will see. Julie adds that Chad will be happy too and that he’s usually home by now, so she wonders what’s keeping him.

Chad tells Cat that he’s going to use her as bait and he’s going to do his best to protect her, but he can’t guarantee it will work out. Chad admits he doesn’t really know what’s going to happen. Cat agrees to do it, feeling she owes him that much at least. Cat adds that if there’s a chance her mother is still alive, this could lead her to her. Chad asks if Cat wants him to get her brother out of jail after he showed up and tried to shoot him, but says that would be asking too much. Cat points out that if they are going to do this and have any hope of being successful, they are going to have to work together and travel together. Cat asks if he will be able to handle being around her. Chad says these are not normal circumstances and he will do whatever it takes to get his wife back.

Joy asks Alex who said she was going to cause trouble for Chanel. Alex clarifies that she meant her character coming in between them. Joy mentions that Stephanie warned about her getting hate mail for that. Alex calls Stephanie the best and explains that they were sort of seeing each other but they are going to keep their distance so they don’t lose their jobs. Joy realizes that Alex is Bonnie’s stepson and explains that Bonnie is her mom’s best friend, so she heard all about what happened.

Chanel tells Johnny that she knows it’s been hard to move past this since he thought she betrayed him and felt hurt, then she was hurt that he thought she would cheat on him when she would never do that. Chanel says Johnny can’t just sit around wallowing as he has to get past it. Johnny thinks back again to kissing Joy in her hotel room. Johnny then tells Chanel that he wants to be the husband she deserves and promises to make it up to her as they hug.

Leo and Javi continue talking. Javi tells Leo that he’s funny and has a way about him. Javi teaches Leo a pickup line in Spanish. Javi says he’d love to hang out but he has a million errands to run for Gabi, revealing that he is now her personal assistant since she’s giving him a place to stay. Javi brings up Gabi’s divorce and says it’s a bad one as there was cheating on both sides and now the papers are signed. Javi calls Gabi the strongest person he knows but says this broke her.

EJ tells Gabi to blame him if it makes her feel better and says he destroyed her marriage, but points out that she destroyed his marriage by shooting her mouth off at the press conference so they can consider themselves even. Gabi asks if he admits to ruining her marriage then. EJ responds that he will admit part of him relished seeing Stefan anguish over their tryst and he did drive Stefan to demand a divorce when he told him that he would never get over the images of them in bed together out of his head. EJ declares he will take credit for her stupid little divorce, but they both deserve it after the miserable things they’ve done to him. EJ then remarks that he loved doing it, so Gabi then slaps him.

Leo tells Javi that his heart doesn’t bleed for Gabi or Stefan. Javi says he’s allowed to feel how he feels and he hates to go, but he has to run Gabi’s errands. Leo says he should get to work himself but suggests they could get together later. Javi says he’d like that and he will text him as he walks away.

Chanel joins Alex getting coffee at the hospital. Alex comments that Johnny seemed chill about everything and asks if he really was. Chanel thinks he was fine with the love scene, but he’s still feeling guilty about how he acted at his surprise birthday party. Alex mentions meeting Joy and she seems pretty cool. Chanel calls Joy nice and says she likes her. Alex tells Chanel about how he freaked Joy out when he said she was going to be a thorn in Chanel’s side, but she acted like he meant it in real life when he meant it in character.

Chad goes home and greets Julie, who says she has good news for a change. Julie announces they have a surprise guest in JJ who will be staying with them for awhile. Chad says that’s great. Julie adds that JJ was concerned about how they were all doing after what Cat did to them. Julie is thankful that she won’t have to set eyes on her again. Cat then walks in to the room, shocking Julie.

EJ warns Gabi that he could have an officer there to arrest her for assaulting Salem’s district attorney. Gabi says she should leave a mark then and tries to slap EJ again but EJ grabs her arm. JJ then appears and demands EJ get his hands off of her now.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Is this really where DiMera execs lunch? This sandwich doesn’t look very– like, this artisanal.

[laughs] Well, it’s quick, we’re busy, and you’re not an exec.

Not yet, but believe me, I am manifesting exec-ness. Every morning, affirmations Scotch-taped to the bathroom mirror.

[chuckles] Well, babe, I also need you to manifest picking up my dry cleaning. Oh, and my car needs an oil change, which you will get at the Lube Spot.

The Lube Spot?

Here’s a punch card you can use.

[relaxed music] What? Abuela taught me financial responsibility.

Yes, we love fiscal advice from a woman whose guest room was basically just a pile of coupons and a couple of cat trees.

[laughs]

Listen, Javi, with the divorce, the lawyers, and the Gabi Chic deal that fell through with that investor…

It’s…

[sighs] Did I tell you that my Chic Team and I were supposed to fly to Dubai? First class. I read the menu. You know what they were serving? Kobe beef sliders with a chutney spread.

[phone beeps]

Oh, and, uh, before I forget, I need you to go… Hello? Javi? Are you listening to a word I’m saying?

[sighs] Ugh! He must be typing and erasing, which you only do when you like somebody, right? Oh. Oh, well, I don’t have time for those annoying doubts right now.

[soft dramatic music] And then Rodrigo says, “You know, I think I’m too hot for this relationship.”

[laughs] Leonardo, you have done it again. “I’m too hot for this relationship”? Has anyone ever said that on TV before? It’s edgy, irreverent, hilarious, of course.

[chuckles] Hey, Regan.

Uh, Joy, actually.

I’m sorry. I always think of actors as their characters when I’m engrossed in a scene.

Sorry, how do you know who I am? The show hasn’t even aired yet.

I recognize you from your headshot. I’m sorry, we have not been properly introduced. I’m the head writer– of “Body & Soul,” obviously.

Oh, well, it’s nice to meet you, um–

Leo. Leo Stark.

Leo Stark. Why do I know that name?

You’ve heard of me? Really?

[laughs]

Yeah. Yeah, I have. You are the guy who destroyed my parents’ marriage.

[sighs]

[dramatic music]

Johnny, hi.

Uh…

[clears throat] Joy.

I’m– I’m glad that I ran into you. You– you left this in my room last night.

You ready to do this?

Yeah, we got, uh, lights. Cameras are in positions.

No, I mean are you ready for me to sleep with your wife?

[phone ringing]

Chad. What are you doing here?

I need to talk to you.

[soft dramatic music]

I told you, I don’t know where Abigail’s body is. I’m sorry. I just–

This isn’t about that.

OK. What’s it about?

I’m dropping the charges against you.

[tense music]

OK, darling. Second helping of chicken soup coming right up! Nothing wrong with his appetite.

[doorbell rings]

[bright music] It’s JJ Deveraux! Oh, my! Oh, my.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[relaxed music]

Well, who are you texting with that little grin on your face?

Who am I texting? I’m not texting.

Come on, Primo. I’m not a teacher. No after-school detention.

Yeah, but you are my boss, and I was just noting everything you’re saying and smiling to myself at how wonderful you are. Isn’t that what assistants do?

[laughter] I’ve never been an assistant, so that question’s not rhetorical.

What are you talking about? Weren’t you Anna Wintour’s assistant back in–

That lie’s been on my résumé so long that I convinced myself it’s true.

[laughter]

Oh, OK.

Look, Gabi, I am so grateful for the gig, but I didn’t realize that I was just gonna be, you know, an errand boy.

No, you’re more than an errand boy. In fact, take this down.

I am going to need you to reorganize the online filing system. Oh, and purge the office of any traces of Psycho Connie. I will need this done by– Tuesday? Wednesday the latest. And not this Wednesday, the following Wednesday.

[phone beeps]

[phone beeps]

I did what? Destroyed your–

[phone beeps] Listen, I have ruined quite a few marriages in my day, so I’m gonna need you to be a little more specific. Who exactly are your parents?

I’m Joy Wesley. My father’s Craig Wesley.

[soft dramatic music]

Right. That would explain why your mother was in town. I’m sorry. I wasn’t paying attention to your name when I was looking at your headshot.

Well, just so you know, my mother was absolutely devastated when she found out my father was cheating on her.

I know that. Believe me, I do.

Look, I hope this doesn’t affect our ability to work together.

Fingers crossed.

Look, you should know, I am very, very sorry for what I did. I’m in therapy three, sometimes four times a week. And what I’ve learned is that I have a good heart, and I didn’t set out to be a home-wrecker.

You know what? Who am I to judge? Lately, I’ve become a bit of a home-wrecker myself.

What I meant is my character sleeping with Chanel’s character, as in–

Yeah, no, I know what you meant, Alex, OK? But can you– can you maybe see how the way that you worded it could have been a little triggering to me? Especially since I made a complete idiot out of myself right before my own surprise party? No less, you know, when I accused my own wife of cheating on me? How about we actually don’t talk about this anymore?

Sure. Sure. Let me just say this, though. If it makes you feel any better, I also was an idiot. Stephanie and I made a huge mistake that we will never, ever do again, I can assure you.

Hold on, all right? Just– you and Stephanie are none of my business.

Right. But you and Chanel kind of are my business, Johnny, because we work together. So I need your assurance here, man. No World War III, OK?

No World War III.

All right. And look, Alex, I’m, uh– I’m sorry. Really, I am, if my– my little outburst screwed things up for you and Stephanie.

No.

I’m especially sorry for what I did to Chanel.

You’re dropping the charges? Why?

I’ll let my brother elaborate on the why. But for the record, Cat, whatever your supposed justifications were, I am disgusted and appalled at what you did to Chad and the rest of Abigail’s family.

[tense music]

[handcuffs clinking]

Enjoy the freedom you sure as hell don’t deserve.

Chad. Yeah, I imagine you’re not just having your brother drop the charges out of the goodness of your heart.

You’re right. I would much rather see you rot in there for the rest of your life.

Oh.

But I can’t.

You can’t? Why not?

[relaxed music]

And certainly not least, I need you to take these to the courthouse by close of business.

What are they?

My divorce papers.

Gabi, are you sure you’re ready to do this?

I signed them. Stefan signed them. It’s over. As soon as they’re filed, I’ll officially be divorced.

OK. I’m sorry, Prima. I know this isn’t what you wanted.

You better get to it. – Ahora mismo, jefa.

Well, hello there.

What the hell do you want?

So you’re a home-wrecker too, huh? Or maybe you’re just trying to impress the head writer by already being in character, channeling that vixen Regan Holloway, fire a little wrecking ball right into Arrow and Faith’s love me, love me not romance.

Uh, nope. Actually talking about real life.

Whoa. Though I now write fiction, I admit I’m rather partial to real-life intrigue. So tell me, Ms. Wesley, whose home did you wreck?

[soft dramatic music]

[sighs]

Chanel.

Hey! There you are.

Yeah. Sorry I’m a bit late. I was just introduced to the wonderful world of body makeup.

Ah.

[chuckles]

And, uh, look, I– I’m gonna be honest with both of you. I am having a bit of a hard time, you know, gearing up to this doing a love scene with you in front of you. But I am a professional, so I am gonna power through it, and you’re gonna do the same, and I know that you’re gonna do the same, Alex, because everything is gonna be OK because it is all just make believe, right?

Yeah. Yeah. That’s, uh– that’s all it is.

Hmm. Great. Now that we’ve gotten that established, um, can we get this show on the road, huh?

Yeah.

Well, I think it’s wonderful that you were at the wedding. You were able to– to help stop the fraud that that evil woman was trying to perpetrate on Chad. Well, on the whole family.

I– I only wish we would have figured it out before I pronounced them man and wife.

Well, don’t worry, sweetheart. The wedding isn’t valid. It’s just one more heartache that Chad doesn’t need right now.

That’s for sure.

Good thing is that sadistic woman is now in jail,

[laughs] along with her murderous brother behind bars. I’m confident that Chad and EJ will see to it that she stays there for a very long time.

[sigh] Is there a particular reason why you can’t just let me rot in jail forever?

Clyde Weston escaped.

What? How? I thought he was under / watch.

I don’t know. He was being transferred from supermax to, uh– to his appeal.

Oh, my God. Did you–

No. Talk to him about your mother? I assume that’s what you were gonna ask me.

[tense music]

[sigh] So what are you saying? You– you talked to him. You talked to Clyde.

He called me. We talked. I asked him where I could find Abigail’s remains. He told me he would tell me, under one condition.

What’s the condition?

I hand you over to him.

I’m so glad you’re here.

[laughs]

Oh, me too. I had to come. I need to know what happened to my sister’s body. And I– I wanted to see my family. See how everyone’s doing.

You are a dear to care so much.

Of course, I do. And how’s Doug doing? Who’s just about my favorite person in the world?

[laughs] Mine too.

Being around him always lifts my spirits. I mean that.

Well, I’ll tell him. That’ll put a smile on his face.

Is he doing OK?

[somber music]

Well, not– not so good today. Uh, he really believed that your sister was alive, and now he’s got a bad cold.

I’m sorry to hear that.

You know, Doug, he’ll be up and around in no time.

The man’s nothing if not resilient. What is he, like, now?

Yeah, . On the cusp of a century. Imagine.

I believe that every day that Doug is with us is just a blessing.

We all do.

Clyde wants me? What? Why?

He’s angry. I imagine he has a bank account in the Caymans that’s probably pretty low on funds right now because you failed to deliver the DiMera fortune.

So– so what? He wants revenge on me? Like– like what he probably has already done to my mother?

I imagine so.

[ominous music]

So you had EJ drop the charges against me so you could just throw me to the lions and give Clyde what he wants?

I need to know what happened to Abigail. This is the only way.

[chuckles] This is the only way? Really? You’re just gonna hand me over to some hardened criminal? This is the only way? You hate me that much?

[tense music]

I just wanted to say that–

You don’t have to say anything. You can just be on your merry way.

Look, I know you’re upset when you found the letter that Stefan wrote to me regarding his sudden decamping from Salem, along with his great displeasure for the both of us, but–

I remember what it said. Trust me.

And I’m sure your feelings were hurt when he took the time to write to me and not to you.

What are you doing, EJ? Rubbing it in? What are you, a child?

No, but you certainly acted like one the other day.

Excuse me?

Gabi, what you said to me was irrational, especially since you told me that you wanted a divorce too.

What are you now, a couple’s therapist?

What I am is offended, so I thought I’d give you the chance to apologize.

Apologize? For what?

You said the dissolution of your marriage was entirely my fault, when clearly–

And it was! It was all your fault, EJ.

You know what? I probably shouldn’t even be talking to you about this, so just forget I even said anything.

Oh, honey, believe me, I forget most things, except scandalous gossip. See, not long ago as a world-renowned gossip columnist, this sort of thing was my raison d’être, but I gave all that up to head write “Body & Soul.” Chips in the center. I’m in TV now where my extraordinary wit and shallowness are being financially rewarded.

Well, that’s great and all, but–

Oh, come on, Joy, you can tell me. And then maybe, just maybe, I can incorporate this home-wrecking into a juicy story for your character.

Right, uh–

Think about it. I mean–

Leo.

Javi. Hi.

Oh, long time no see, yeah?

Yeah. Welcome to Salem, where you run into everyone you know and hate at least times a day.

[laughs] Present company excluded. I think the two of you are swell. Javier Hernandez, this is Joy Wesley. Joy, this is Javier.

It’s nice to meet you, Javier.

Oh, please, call me Javi.

OK.

Hey, I’m sorry I did not respond to your text.

Yeah, I was wondering if you were blowing me off since I saw those read receipts and the dots that never turn into words.

Oh, well, OK, I admit I read it. I just was–

You know what? I, um– I actually need to get to set. It was so nice meeting both of you. Bye.

But wait. You didn’t tell me who you– hmm, damn it.

[bright music]

OK. Uh, places, everyone. Let’s go.

[claps] All right. And action.

[claps]

Oh, Arrow, I just heard the news about your mother! Oh, no. Am I too late? Is Kassandra… dead?

No, no. My mother’s just down the hall right now, getting a life-saving serum made from a begonia plant found only in the jungles of Iguaza.

What?

Yes. Against all odds, Faith, I was able to bring back a flower that can cure her disease and save her life.

Oh, Arrow, how– how heroic, how– how brave!

It’s a miracle. I thought I was gonna lose my precious mother, but now she’s gonna live, Faith.

Oh, thank God! Oh!

All this, it’s made me realize that the life we have is so short, and the time we have on this Earth is even shorter, and precious.

What are you saying, Arrow?

I’m saying that if you’re lucky enough to find the one person you truly love, we mustn’t squander a single second of that precious time.

[tender music]

[soft dramatic music]

[soft dramatic music]

And scene! OK, uh, that was, uh– it was great, guys. Very, uh– very steamy.

Thank you. All right.

[groans] Whew! I am gonna go get changed.

Hey, uh, was– was that so bad?

No, it was not so bad.

OK, great. Well, I have to admit that I was holding my breath the whole time, waiting for you to call cut, but now that we’ve gotten through that first love scene, it’s not gonna be a problem anymore, right?

Right. Right. No, not a problem. Not anymore.

Good. And you feel better now?

Actually, I don’t.

What? Why not?

Look, no, I’m fine. I’m fine with what you two just did. It’s fine. I’m just– uh, I’m not fine with what I did.

So what’s up with Joy what’s her name?

Wesley.

Yeah, I was getting a vibe, but I always get vibes. My best friend Eliana says that I’m an empath.

I feel like everyone’s an empath nowadays.

Yeah, that’s true. Seems to be going around.

Anyway, that vibe you were picking up on is probably because I slept with her father and subsequently destroyed her parents’ marriage.

Wow! You really are a chico malo, huh? Gabi was right about you. That’s bad boy in Spanish.

Yeah, I knew that. Anyway, I feel like I’m less of a bad boy and more of a home-wrecker, which doesn’t sound nearly as sexy. But then Joy just admitted that she was one too. Damn. I’d love to get the lowdown on whose home that one wrecked.

Hey, you’re Alex, right?

I am.

OK, so you’re the actor who, um– oh, sorry. Sorry. I’m Joy Wesley.

Oh, hey, Joy. So you’re playing, uh–

Regan.

Regan. Yes, I heard about you.

Oh, yeah?

Yeah.

What’d you hear?

[chuckles]

Just that you’re going to be a huge thorn in Chanel’s side.

[dramatic music]

That reminds me. Did you bring your guitar? You know, you could sing some songs to Doug, and maybe he’d join in.

Yeah. No, I’d like that. Um, you know, it’s funny. I was just thinking the other day that I was, uh– it was Doug who gave me Great Grandma Alice’s wedding ring to propose to Lani, and knowing full well that I was– I was jumping into something I was not ready for. And I remember, he tried to gently warn me.

As I remember, you came to that conclusion on your own.

Yeah. So how are Eli and Lani?

Great. They’re great. I keep hoping they’ll come visit and bring the adorable twins. Now, JJ Deveraux, tell me, is there any special person in your life now?

[soft dramatic music]

At the moment, no.

Oh. Quel dommage. Such a handsome, such a charismatic guy. I’m sure there’ll be a lovely lady coming along very soon.

My fault?

[sighs] Gabi, as we have established, unequivocally and repeatedly, you thought your marriage was over when you found out Stefan cheated on you with Ava, and I only slept with you because you seduced me.

And you should have said no.

I– I did say no.

Oh, come on, you didn’t mean it. You were trying to stick it to Stefan.

[dramatic music]

Here are the facts, my dear. You were the married one. You were the one who initiated things with me. And just to be clear, you were screaming from the rooftops that you were through with Stefan.

But you knew. You knew I wasn’t.

Wasn’t what?

In my right mind.

Gabi, serious question, but when are you in your right mind?

Screw you, EJ.

I think you’ve already checked that one off the list.

You son of a bitch! You should have stopped it, EJ! Damn it, you should have stopped it!

Yeah, I hate you. Because at the end of the day, you had the power to stop all of this, and you didn’t.

Chad–

No, sure, I understand that there were extenuating circumstances. Clyde was threatening to kill your mother. But that doesn’t mean you couldn’t have maneuvered your way out of it without, you know, leading a total stranger into believing that his dead wife was alive.

And I wish I had done that.

I wish you would have too.

[tense music] There is a part of me that wants to let Clyde do my dirty work. If I were my brother, he probably would. But I’m not my brother, so I will not hand you over to your death.

What are you gonna do?

I’ve got a couple errands to run.

Errands? You just got here.

Yeah, but–

Oh. I notice you did not have a suitcase. Does that mean you’re thinking you’re gonna check into the Salem Inn?

I was going to do just that, yes.

Oh, please don’t. Don’t. The children would love to have you around, as would Doug, and as would I.

[tender music]

OK. All right. But in that case, will you, uh, at least let me pick up dinner for everybody?

Oh, yeah.

What do the kids like? Pizza? Chicken nuggets?

[laughs] All of the above. Oh, it’s going to be wonderful having you here, and I hope you stay a while this time.

We’ll see.

Chad will be happy you’re here too. Yeah. He’s usually home by now. Wonder what’s keeping him.

[laughs]

Well, it’s simple, really.

[soft dramatic music] I’m gonna use you as bait.

You’re gonna use me as–

Bait, yeah. And I’m gonna do my best to protect you, but I can’t guarantee it’s gonna work out.

Truth is, uh, I don’t really know what’s going to happen.

I’ll do it. I’ll do it. I– I owe you that much, at the very least. And if there’s a chance that my mother’s still alive, this could lead me to her.

This may be asking too much, but I have–

Let me guess. You– you want me to get your brother out of jail after he showed up and, uh, tried to shoot me? Yeah, that’s asking too much.

OK. OK, I understand. I’m his sister. But–

But?

If we’re gonna do this and have any hope of it being successful, we’re gonna have to work together, travel together, compare notes. You have to be around me. Are you gonna be able to handle that?

Yeah, well, under normal circumstances, no.

But these aren’t normal circumstances, and I’ll do whatever it takes to get my wife back.

Uh, who said I was gonna cause trouble for Chanel?

No, no, I meant her character, Faith.

[laughs] And your character, you know, comes in-between us.

Right. Right. Of course.

Yeah.

Totally. Yeah, no, our publicist, Stephanie, she told me I better watch out for some hate mail over that. Or at least some hateful posts. It’s nice of her to warn me.

Yeah, yeah. Stephanie– she’s the best.

Why did you say it like that? I heard the pause.

No, no. Stephanie and I were seeing each other, sort of. Now we can’t anymore. We’re gonna keep our distance from one another, or, uh, we could lose our jobs.

Right, you’re– You’re Alex Kiriakis. You’re Bonnie’s stepson.

Yeah.

So Bonnie is my mom’s best friend, so I heard all about what happened.

[chuckles]

Ah.

Johnny, I– I know that it has been hard to move past this. Hard for both of us. I mean, you thought that I betrayed you, and so you felt hurt, and then I was hurt that you thought that and that you thought that I would cheat on you, and I would never do that. And, yeah, it’s just, we– look, Johnny, you can’t just sit around wallowing, OK? You’ve got to get past it.

I know. It’s just, uh–

Just what?

[tense music]

I want to be the husband that you deserve, Chanel. And I will be. But I’m gonna make this up to you. Not just with my words, but with my actions. I promise.

[dramatic music]

Anyway, Javi, thank you for the dialogue assist. Eres el mejor.

Oh, español muy bien.

Oh, gracias. I did spend a summer in Spain once. Actually, it was more like when I was a kid, my mom and I had this layover in Madrid. We were supposed to meet this rich guy on a boat. He was gonna save us financially, only there was definitely no boat, and he was poor as a church mouse.

You’re funny. You know that?

You think so? All right. No fake modesty. I know that I am.

[laughs]

But I love it when people say it.

And not just funny. You just have a way about you.

So, um, how do you say this pickup line of yours?

So discúlpa pero creo que me debes una bebida.

Is that PG enough to go on air?

It depends on how you say it.

How’s this?

[clears throat] Discúlpame pero creo que me... – Debes. – Debes una bebida.

[laughs] Well, I’d say that is closer to NC-.

[laughter]

That’s what I was going for.

I figured. Uh, I’d love to hang, but I have a million errands to run for my cousin, so–

Gabi? Tell her to hire somebody to do that.

She did hire somebody. Me. I’m her personal assistant.

You are? What’s– what’s your hourly rate?

Well, Gabi is getting the I need a place to stay discount. Anyway, I have to, like, get her an oil change and file her divorce papers.

Oh, yeah, Gabi’s getting a divorce. Imagine that.

This is a bad one. Cheating in both directions, the husband signed the papers, and then…

[whistles] Hasta nunca, mi esposa. And, Gabi, God bless her, is the strongest person I know, but this broke her. Girl’s really going through it.

All right, Gabi. All right. If it makes you feel better, blame me. You’re right. You’re right. I– I ruined your marriage. Lest we forget, you ruined mine, as you may recall, by shooting your mouth off at that press conference. So let’s consider us even.

So you admit you ruined my marriage.

Here’s what I will admit. Yes, there was a part of me that relished seeing Stefan in such anguish over our little tryst. And, yes, I did drive my brother to demand a divorce when I told him that he would never be able to get out those salacious images that that– that PowerPoint, that torturous little PowerPoint of you and I in bed together out of his head. So fine. I will take credit for your stupid little divorce.

But, damn it, you both deserve it after all the miserable things you’ve done to me.

[laughs] You know what?

I loved doing it. I loved seeing my brother cuckolded just as much as I loved seeing your poor little heart broken.

I’m deriving…

[sighs] whew– great satisfaction from all of it, in fact.

[chuckles]

Uh, no offense, but my heart doesn’t exactly bleed for Ms. Step Away from the Stark, or her smug, the very handsome ex-husband.

Hey, you’re allowed to feel what you feel. And I actually hate to step away from the Stark, but I have to run these errands for Gabi, or she’s gonna kill me.

Yeah, I should probably get back to work myself. But maybe we could get together later, grab a drink, dinner.

I’d like that. I’ll text you.

Good. Gate– uh–

[laughs]

Great.

[tender music]

[phone beeps]

Hey.

Hey. Johnny seemed pretty chill about everything, huh?

Yeah.

But was he really?

Yeah, I, um– I think that he was fine with the whole love scene stuff, but, um, it’s just– he’s still feeling pretty guilty about the way he acted at his surprise birthday party.

Mm, it’s understandable. Oh, did I tell you I met Joy, by the way? She seems pretty cool.

Oh, yeah. Yeah. Joy’s super nice. I– I like her.

Yeah. I think I kind of freaked her out a little bit, though.

What? What do you mean?

I don’t know. I said something like, “She’s potentially gonna be a thorn in Chanel’s side,” and her reaction was like I meant it in real life.

[laughs]

Even though obviously, of course, I meant, like, her character and your character on the show.

Right. Yeah. On the show.

[dramatic music]

Hey, Johnny. I just met Alex. I heard you directed the first big love scene between him and Chanel, or Faith and Arrow, that is.

[laughs]

Yeah.

It went OK?

Yeah. Yeah, I’m fine.

Then what’s wrong? You seem upset.

I– I am. Not– not about what Alex and Chanel just did, about what you and I did, in real life. OK, and Joy, I have to tell my wife the truth.

[sighs]

Hi, Julie.

Chad, there you are. Great. I have some good news for a change.

Oh, yeah?

Yeah. We got a surprise guest. It’s JJ Deveraux, and he’s gonna be staying with us for a while.

Great.

Yeah. He was concerned about how we were all doing after the trick that that evil woman tried to pull on us. Thank God I will not have to set eyes on that conniving succubus again.

[sighs]

Yeah. Well, actually–

[dramatic music]

[laughs] You know, Gabi, I could have an officer here in two minutes frothing at the mouth to arrest you for assaulting Salem’s district attorney.

Don’t you dare.

Hey, get your hands off her! Now!
