Tate cooks at home which impresses Marlena. Tate explains that he wanted to do something special for Sophia’s 18th birthday since she can’t go to prom after her doctors put her on bed rest. Marlena calls him a very kind man. Marlena knows he wants to do right by Sophia but she thinks they should talk.

At Titan, Xander calls Dr. Frame, the director of DiMera Pharmaceuticals, and leaves another message. Xander says he sent him questions about Versavix but hasn’t heard back. Alex mentions that he asked Stephanie to put in a good word with Kayla. Xander says this drug could be exactly what they need. Xander compliments Alex on his work. Alex thanks him and says he knows he has a lot to make up for so he appreciates the opportunity. Xander says he’s no stranger to second chances and Alex certainly deserves one. Alex then asks if Xander thinks Philip might deserve a second chance too or if there’s any way Philip might be able to make his way back in to the fold.

Kevin tells Philip on the phone that he is right outside the lab and asks if they are really doing this. Philip calls it high risk, high reward as stealing the drug could bring them fortunes and save Bo’s life. Philip tells Kevin that if anything goes wrong, to get the hell out of there. Kevin assures that he will because the last thing he wants is to get caught. Philip warns that if he does get caught, they are both royally screwed.

Stephanie goes to see Kayla in her office. Stephanie feels she needs a break since she’s always working way too hard. Stephanie mentions Alex being on his auction date and Jada being out, so she invites Kayla out for dinner and drinks. Kayla says she’d love to but she has a mountain of paper work to catch up on. Stephanie says she totally gets it and suggests trying Steve but Kayla says she can’t, so Stephanie asks why not.

Steve and Shawn plan outside to sneak in to Dr. Russell’s lab. Steve worries about things going wrong while Shawn says they cannot let Bo die as he cannot lose his dad again.

Tate asks Marlena if he did something wrong. Marlena clarifies that she recalled awhile back that he told her that Sophia had feelings for him. Tate says that was like a year ago and they are just friends now. Marlena questions if Sophia feels that way or if she still has feelings for him. Tate guesses he can’t be sure. Marlena warns him about these acts of kindness being misleading, unless Tate has the same feelings for Sophia.

Steve uses his phone to pull up the feed of Dr. Russell’s lab and says they have ten minutes to get in, get the drug, and get out. Steve remarks that no one ever said saving the day was easy. Shawn says he’s ready, so Steve cuts the camera feed.

Kevin sneaks in to Dr. Russell’s lab and tells Philip that he’s approaching the cabinet where the Versavix is stored. Philip instructs him to get one and get the hell out of there. Kevin reveals that there’s one problem as the drug is already in measured doses, so he’ll need to take a little from each tube or they will know one was stolen. Philip asks how long that will take. Kevin says it will be longer on the phone, so he’ll let him know when he’s done and hangs up.

Kayla tells Stephanie that Steve is unavailable tonight. Stephanie guesses he’s on a case and understands not wanting her to worry, but she can see that Kayla is worried. Kayla says it never gets easier when Steve is out in the field. Stephanie is sure everything will be fine but asks if they can talk for a moment and admits she had an ulterior motive for inviting her to dinner. Kayla says they can always talk but she’s curious about her ulterior motive. Stephanie explains that Alex wanted her to put in a good word for Titan in their bid for the hospital. Kayla says she only has one vote so the decision is really up to the board. Stephanie says they both know her opinion could sway a lot of votes. Kayla admits the last thing she wants is EJ digging his claws in to their hospital, but Xander has been cut throat, so he has to convince the board that he’s not as devious and heartless as EJ.

Xander questions if Alex is advocating on Philip’s behalf. Alex assures that he’s not a fan of Philip and is still pissed off at what he did, but he knows that Victor would have wanted the whole family to work together. Alex suggests since Xander has leverage over Philip, he could demote him and keep him in the fold. Xander is sick of being lectured about what Victor would’ve wanted when he wrote what he wanted in his will. Xander says even if he agreed with Alex, he can’t get over Philip’s deception and betrayal so he can’t and won’t ever trust him again. Xander remarks that he’s not sure he can trust himself either.

Tate tells Marlena that he and Sophia are just friends and that’s it, but guesses she already knows why. Marlena guesses he still has feelings for Holly which Tate confirms. Tate says there’s no way things will ever work out for them. Marlena encourages that you never know how things will work out and sometimes, people break up and get back together. Tate feels so much has changed since last year. Marlena agrees and thinks Tate has matured with this pregnancy as she likes how he’s stepped up. Tate thanks her and admits it’s been very difficult to keep things together sometimes, especially after Johnny changed his mind about the adoption. Marlena wants to talk to him about that.

Alex questions Xander not trusting himself. Xander clarifies that if Philip goes behind his back again, there will be hell to pay and he doesn’t want to find out what he might do. Paulina arrives with a box from the Bakery. Alex tells Xander that they will talk as he exits. Paulina presents Xander with a nut free chocolate cake to show how much Chanel appreciates their business. Xander tells her to cut the crap and guesses she’s here to talk him out of suing Chanel for everything she’s worth. Paulina asks if it’s working.

Stephanie guesses Alex’s date with Gabi ended early as she gets a text from him, inviting her to join him at Small Bar. Stephanie tells Kayla that this is her last chance for a night out as Alex won’t mind if she turns him down. Kayla tells her to go on ahead and mentions Paulina throwing a fundraiser at the bar tomorrow so she can check if they are advertising it. Kayla asks Stephanie how things are going with her and Alex since she hated keeping a secret. Stephanie says it’s mostly out in the open now, so they are doing really well and she feels like she can finally put all of this drama behind them.

Kevin begins stealing the drug from the lab through each tube while Steve and Shawn approach the lab. Steve puts in the override code to unlock the door which Kevin hears from inside.

Marlena wants to tell Tate the truth about Johnny and the adoption. Marlena informs him that Chanel wasn’t aware of Johnny’s feelings of not being ready to be a father, but he shared it with her. Marlena says she told him to be honest about it because you can’t suppress those sort of feelings and if you try, they will surface and then everybody gets hurt. Marlena hopes Tate doesn’t feel like she undermined the adoption. Tate says of course not and agrees that she gave Johnny the right advice, like she always gives him. Tate adds that Sophia is 18 now so her mom doesn’t have a say anymore, so they will be going to an adoption agency on their own. The doorbell rings so Tate tells Marlena this will be continued. Tate then answers the door, surprising Sophia with her birthday decorations and calls it her party. Sophia can’t believe he did all this for her. Tate says all their friends are busy so it will just be them. Tate tells Marlena that she doesn’t have to leave but she says she has to get some files from the office and it might take awhile. Marlena wishes Sophia a happy birthday as she exits. Sophia calls this so sweet of Tate and says it really means a lot to her as they hug.

Stephanie meets Alex at Small Bar. They drink wine together which Stephanie acknowledges is a grand a bottle. Stephanie says he didn’t need to go overboard for a simple date night. Alex says it’s only the best for the best. Stephanie jokingly asks when he last had two dates in one night and says she does want to know how his date with Gabi went. Alex says it was pretty painless but he’s afraid that she didn’t get what she paid for since it was just dinner at the Bistro for 15 grand. Alex says they got along okay but he just doesn’t feel like she got her money’s worth. Alex tells Stephanie not to tell Kayla and then they kiss.

Paulina argues to Xander that it was an honest mistake and Xander has more money while knowing what Chanel has been through recently including losing two babies. Paulina asks why kick Chanel while she’s down. Xander calls it not the first accident this week and suggests maybe it’s best for the town if the Bakery is shut down. Paulina asks what she can do to get him to see reason. Xander responds that there is something she can do for him.

Steve and Shawn sneak in to the lab. Steve hears a noise and goes to investigate while Shawn notices the empty cabinet where the drug was. Steve comes back and says the noise was the emergency exit, so someone was there and probably came in after they cut the feed. Shawn points out the cabinet and says whoever it was didn’t leave empty handed.

Kevin races out from the lab with the tubes of Versavix.

Tate and Sophia eat together. Sophia compliments the meal while Tate worries about feeling queasy. Sophia jokingly asks if he’s faking being sick so he can leave and go to prom but Tate assures that’s not the case. Tate then presents Sophia with a prom corsage and talks about the crazy year they have had but now they are in the home stretch. Tate brings up that Sophia never told him what her mom said when she told her that they were going to put the baby up for adoption now that she’s 18, but Sophia says about that..

Stephanie tells Alex that them being together like this is really great. They are glad his other date ended early. Stephanie adds that she did try to grease the wheels for him with Kayla but she thinks it will boil down to Xander coming off more sympathetic to the board than EJ. Alex worries that it’s no slam dunk. Stephanie understands Xander is on edge lately. Alex informs her that he did a favor for her too. Alex says he can’t get her novel out of his head and he wants to publish it because he honestly thinks it’s very marketable. Stephanie thinks he’s just blinded by love because her book is not in shape for publishing. Alex feels that doesn’t mean it can’t be and reveals he found the perfect editor.

Paulina asks what favor Xander wants from her. Xander informs her that he and EJ are currently bidding to take control of the hospital. Paulina questions why there’s a bidding war over the hospital when it’s losing money. Xander says that doesn’t matter and brings up Abe having a seat on the board. Paulina is sure he would be deeply touched by how forgiving Xander was towards Chanel and not seeking legal action. Paulina calls that a messy situation for Abe because Theo is a DiMera, so she could see Abe voting for EJ to prevent bad blood with the family. Paulina adds that it would be a different story if Theo worked at Titan-DiMera, so he’d still benefit from his birth right and Abe thinks he could convince Theo to move back home. Xander says he’d been meaning to give Theo a call and wonders if he’d like to work here. Paulina tells Xander to call Theo and she will go let Chanel know there are no hard feelings over the scone mixup. Paulina adds that she is sure Abe would like to reward him for that. Paulina tells Xander to enjoy the cake as she then exits the office. Xander then takes a seat at his desk.

Marlena goes to see Kayla in her office and questions what she’s doing there so late. Kayla says she could ask her the same question. Marlena responds that she was out and about, so she decided to pick up some files and give Tate some time alone but she’s going to head home pretty soon. Kayla asks why she wouldn’t just go catch a movie. Marlena responds that she’s unable to focus on a movie for two hours. Kayla says she can relate as she thinks both of them have their minds on their husbands. Marlena asks if everything is alright and if Steve is in trouble.

Shawn complains about the drug being gone. Steve realizes someone beat them to the punch. Shawn argues that there has to be more and they can’t just walk away. Steve warns that the cameras are going to come back on and they can’t help Bo from behind bars so they have to get out of the lab.

Xander runs in to Philip in the town square. Xander says he’s heading to the hospital to see Sarah. Philip says to tell her that he’s glad she’s okay and he’s sorry they didn’t get to go away. Xander says the silver lining is that he gets to stay and keep an eye on him.

Stephanie questions Alex finding an editor. Alex says it’s early stages and he doesn’t want to jinx it but if she has concerns, a good editor can help. Stephanie is unsure. Alex explains that Xander asked him to diversify some assets so he wants to relaunch the publishing division to help her. Alex talks about not seeing Stephanie so passionate about something and he wants to be the guy that encourages her, not holds her back. Alex asks what she says.

Kayla tells Marlena that Steve just hasn’t done well with the news about Bo. Marlena understands he must be so worried and asks if there’s any chance Dr. Russell will finish his research in time. Kayla says no, so they are having to rely on other options and not false hope. Marlena complains about hearing from the ISA that they are closing in on John’s location. Marlena respects what John does but says it’s not easy to sit by the phone and wait. Kayla talks about trying to encourage Steve several times to let it go and focus on his family, but she also knows he does what he does for their family. Marlena says it’s the same for John. Kayla acknowledges Marlena going toe to toe with Orpheus so she wouldn’t say she’s just sitting by the phone. Marlena talks about Kayla also being proactive. Marlena encourages Kayla to try to get some rest as she exits.

Kevin worries about what to do with the vials of Versavix and calls Philip.

Xander says he’ll see Philip around but Philip stops him and says he misses working with him and wishes he still could. Xander tells him the feeling is not mutual. Philip argues that they made great partners and he actually liked spending time with him. Philip says he stopped seeing him as a rival and started seeing him as a brother. Philip is willing to do anything to repair the damage to their relationship. Xander says there’s nothing he can do. Xander admits he also came to see Philip as his brother, but he cannot forgive betraying him like he did and he certainly won’t forget. Philip says unfortunately for him, they are stuck together so he asks how he suggests they make this work. Xander declares that Philip staying the hell away from him is the only way this works. Philip tells him to tell Sarah that he’s thinking of her as he walks away.

Sophia tells Tate that her mom and family threw her a party too so it didn’t feel like the right time to tell her mom that her baby was being adopted whether she likes it or not. Tate asks if she’s not having second thoughts or going to change her mind about it. Sophia assures that she’s not and she’s dreading the conversation with her mom, but she looks forward to moving on. Tate then brings her out a birthday cake. Tate then suddenly gets dizzy and apologizes for ruining her party. Sophia says she’s just worried about him and feels that his head is burning up. Tate checks his temperature and it’s 102.4. Tate feels he ruined her party so if he’s really sick, he doesn’t want to get her sick too. Sophia agrees and says he should get to bed and take care of himself. Tate says he’s really sorry and wishes her a happy birthday as he then heads to his bedroom. Sophia sits down with her cake and blows out the candles.

Stephanie tells Alex that if he can’t get her future blockbuster out of his head, Jada is out for the night so they can go back to her place and do some more recreating, so Alex calls for the check.

Marlena comes home as Sophia is preparing to leave. Marlena asks where Tate is. Sophia says he’s in his room as he came down with something. Sophia asks Marlena to check on him. Marlena is sorry her party got cut short. Sophia says her whole senior year has been anything but normal so she asks why today should be any different. Marlena says she understands as Sophia then exits. Marlena then gets a call from Shane and says it’s so good to hear from him. Marlena asks if there’s any word from Andrew or Paul. Shane repeats that they are closing in on John’s location as Marlena breaks down crying.

Steve and Shawn return to Kayla’s office to inform her that they didn’t get the drug since someone got to it before them.

Xander gets a call from Dr. Frame and says he needs answers about what he knows about Versavix or how close they are to developing a similar drug. Dr. Frame then reveals that he already talked to his brother, surprising Xander.

Philip goes to his room at the Salem Inn and answers Kevin’s call. Kevin informs him that he heard someone coming in to the lab so he had to run for it. Philip questions if he got a dose but Kevin explains that he freaked out and took the entire batch. Philip says it was probably a custodian coming in to the lab, so hopefully no one notices the batch is missing and he can measure a dose then return the batch before anyone notices. Kevin agrees that he can do that, but then gets at text from Jeffrey that he left the conference early and he’s coming back to the lab tonight.

In the living room of the DiMera Mansion, EJ asks Belle how the new EJ compares to the old EJ. Belle says she’ll need some more time to judge as they then kiss until Rachel comes in and is disgusted by them kissing. Kristen walks in and tells EJ that this is their living room, not a swingers bar. Kristen and Rachel explain that they are celebrating Rachel’s birthday with an Alice in Wonderland theme. Belle asks how many kids are coming but Brady then arrives with gift bags and hugs Rachel.

Kayla sits in her office, waiting for Steve to call her back. She’s then startled by Xander arriving. They talk about Sarah’s recovery going well. Kayla asks what she can do for him. Xander responds that he has a favor to ask.

Philip meets with his old friend Kevin Lambert at the Bistro. They talk about catching up. Kevin says when he saw that Titan bought DiMera Pharmaceuticals, he thought it was worth reaching out. Philip mentions hearing that Kevin was working at a lab here in Salem. Kevin calls that the worst mistake of his life because Dr. Jeffrey Russell is a tyrant. Kevin tells Philip that he’d love to work for Titan and get away from Jeffrey’s lab. Kevin asks if Philip can help out an old friend. Philip thinks they can help each other out.

Alex walks through the town square, talking on the phone with Stephanie about how he’s only going on this date with Gabi because she paid 15 grand for it even though the whole time, he will be wishing he was home with Stephanie.

Gabi gets dressed at home when she gets a call from her daughter Arianna. Gabi questions why she needs money and if she’s in some kind of trouble. Gabi is excited to hear that Arianna wants to come home. Gabi asks why she can’t ask Will and Sonny to buy her a ticket home. Gabi says they spent her last few birthdays with her, so it’s only fair that she gets this one. Gabi tells her that she will send the money tonight and she can’t wait to see her. Gabi finishes the call as Alex arrives at her door and asks if she’s ready for their date.

Rachel asks EJ and Belle to stay for her party which EJ agrees to. Rachel goes to the kitchen to tell cook. Belle questions why no other kids are coming to the party. Brady responds that she’s not the most popular girl in her class. EJ comments on not being surprised. Belle encourages Rachel making new friends while Brady remarks that Belle could use the same, then apologizes for taking a shot. EJ understands Brady’s reluctance to endorse his relationship with Belle. Brady questions when they became an actual relationship. Belle asks if they can not do this right now. Kristen tells Brady that Belle decided getting involved with EJ was no longer risky since he’s morphed into a gentler and kinder version of himself since his coma. Belle insists that EJ is using his second chance to give back as he just offered to buy the hospital and just needs the board’s approval. Brady questions asking for his vote. EJ points out that he is on the board. Belle talks about somebody needing to step in to save the hospital. Brady reveals that somebody already did as Titan put in a bid. Belle questions Xander being a morally upstanding member of society after everything he did to Brady. Brady says sometimes you have to pick the lesser of two evils while Kristen suggests going with the devil you know. Kristen tells Brady that maybe he should take EJ’s offer as if he does something for EJ, maybe he’ll do something in return for them. EJ asks what that would be. Kristen wants him to tell where her mother is.

Kayla asks Xander what the favor is. Xander brings up EJ meeting the board to pitch his plans to buy the hospital. Xander says now that he and Sarah are no longer going on vacation, he’d like to be there so that he and EJ can both pitch their agendas at the same time. Kayla says that seems reasonable and she’ll get right on it so Xander thanks her. Kayla then stops him to ask why he’s so eager to buy the hospital. Kayla talks about the hospital being important to so many of them but questions what Xander gets out of it.

Philip explains to Kevin that if the hospital loses funding, Dr. Russell could lose his lab and research but if they buy the hospital and get their hands on the drug sooner, they could save so many lives. Kevin questions this having nothing to do with screwing over the competition and making billions. Philip confirms that for once in his life, this time it’s personal because his brother Bo is dying. Kevin says he’s so sorry. Philip explains that Bo has Sepsis and when he heard Kevin was working on that drug, he thought maybe he would empathize and help save his life. Kevin responds that even if he wanted to help, he couldn’t because Jeffrey is paranoid in making sure that no one can replicate the formula, so he’s sorry there’s nothing he can do. Kevin adds that even if he had the formula, it takes months to make a new batch. Philip asks what if there was another way to get the drug. Kevin questions what he means. Philip responds that they could steal it.

Gabi asks Alex where they are going for their date. Alex responds that he made a reservation at the Bistro. Gabi complains that they talked about this and she wanted more than just the Bistro. Gabi reminds Alex that she paid 15 grand and that her ex husband used to own the Bistro. Alex suggests they could move to the Brady Pub but Gabi refuses to downgrade. Alex reminds Gabi that this is supposed to be just for fun and for a good cause. Gabi admits that she did this to make JJ jealous, but clearly it hasn’t since she hasn’t heard from him in days. Gabi decides that’s enough with her complaints and they can go to the Bistro, the Pub, or the roller rink. Alex apologizes for bringing down the mood. Gabi says it’s okay as he’s not the one who accused her of shooting EJ. Gabi adds that she didn’t do it. Alex responds that he wouldn’t care if she did. Alex says he only cares that her check to the hospital clears and since he’s required to take her out, he wants to make it a pleasant one. Gabi appreciates that as they exit together.

EJ tells Kristen that he may be a changed man but he’s not a moron because if he did know where her mother was, telling her where would be signing himself up for a long prison sentence. Kristen disagrees because she has guardianship over her mother, so she would be unfit to testify without her approval. Kristen says she would make sure that her mother wouldn’t speak to the police. Belle takes that as her time to leave because she’s still the district attorney. Belle asks EJ to tell Rachel that she will bring her present later. They agree to see each other later. Belle tells them to behave and remember it’s a child’s birthday party as she then exits. EJ questions how serious Kristen was about her offer. Kristen says she’s deadly serious and calls it a win-win for everyone. Brady points out that he didn’t agree to anything. Kristen asks if he wants her mother to be found. Brady responds that he wants her to get the help she needs after she kidnapped Ava. Kristen adds that there is something else EJ can offer to sweeten the pot. Kristen says that no one wants her to be sent to prison for something she didn’t do, so if Brady votes for him, he can tell the police that she was not the one who shot him. EJ responds that he’s sorry but he can’t do that.

Xander tells Kayla that he gets to save his wife’s job along with Kayla and the entire staff. Kayla asks if it has nothing to do with Versavix. Xander admits that would be a plus. Kayla imagines that’s the only reason that Xander and EJ are in a bidding war over this. Kayla says she’s concerned because this drug cannot fall in to the wrong hands. Kayla wants Xander to promise to use it for good and not pad patients for his profits. Xander promises that she can count on Titan to do the right thing.

Kevin questions Philip wanting to steal the drug. Philip says all he needs is a single dose to save Bo and then Titan could reverse engineer it to develop a clone. Philip adds that they would put Kevin on the payroll so he’d be getting out of a hostile work environment, save lives, and make more money than any of his tech friends. Kevin admits it’s tempting. Philip feels they both know he’s going to say yes and toasts to their future collaboration and rekindling of a beautiful friendship.

Kristen questions EJ not vouching for her with the cops even though he knows she did not shoot him. EJ responds that he does not know that for sure and repeats that he barely remembers anything from that night. Kristen accuses him of lying and asks if he’s trying to get her sent away. EJ says all he cares about is keeping the family together. Kristen says just not her and her mother. Kristen adds that Brady will vote for Xander then. Brady responds that he’s going to vote with his conscience. Rachel returns and questions where Belle went. EJ informs her that Belle had to go deal with something important.

Belle goes to see Kayla in her office and hoped she could do something for EJ.

Alex and Gabi go to the Bistro for dinner. Gabi remarks that the Bistro looks just like she remembers. Alex notices Philip is there. Gabi wonders who he’s with and suggests they go say hi. Philip calls it a surprise as Gabi asks who his friend is. Philip introduces Kevin Lambert and says they went to high school together. Gabi mentions winning Alex in an auction. Kevin guesses it was the hospital fundraiser. Philip says they don’t want to keep them from their dinner and he has to get going. Philip tells Kevin that it was great catching up, then tells Gabi and Alex to have a great night as he hurries out. Kevin tells Gabi and Alex that it was nice meeting them both as he walks away. Gabi and Alex comment on the feeling that Philip and Kevin couldn’t wait to get away from them.

Kristen, Brady, and EJ have a tea party with Rachel. Brady starts giving Rachel her presents and hands her one from Tate. Rachel excitedly says that it will soon be Tate’s baby’s birthday and brings up Johnny and Chanel adopting the baby but Brady informs her that won’t be happening anymore. Rachel notices EJ’s reaction and asks if he’s okay.

Kayla guesses Belle came to advocate for EJ. Belle states that EJ only wants to help and questions why Kayla would be against EJ saving the hospital. Kayla says that EJ will have his chance to pitch to the board. Belle brings up Kayla already saying she would vote against him. Kayla brings up everything EJ has done to their families. Belle argues that’s in the past and since EJ has woken up from his coma, he just wants to do good. Kayla asks if Versavix is just a coincidence but Belle doesn’t know what that is. Kayla explains that EJ and Xander are both trying to get the drug that saves lives but will also line their pockets.

Gabi comments on Alex getting pretty quiet and guesses he’s thinking about how weird things got with Philip and Kevin. Alex feels it’s just paranoia but Gabi says everyone in the office feels the tension between them. Gabi asks what happened between them. Alex says it’s just family stuff. Gabi reminds Alex how lucky he is to have so much family in town. Gabi talks about missing her daughter a lot lately so she’s thrilled that she will be coming to stay with her soon. Alex says he spoke to Sonny the other day and he didn’t mention anything about them coming to town. Gabi notes that Sonny and Will won’t be coming and she assumes they aren’t thrilled about Arianna coming to Salem for her birthday, but she is over the moon. Gabi comments that there’s nothing more important than family which they toast to.

Philip goes to Titan where Xander says he thought he told him to stay away from him. Philip thought Xander was out of town so it’d be okay to use their office. Xander informs him that their trip was cancelled and that Sarah is in the hospital after an allergic reaction but will be okay. Philip tells Xander that if he wants to go be with Sarah, he can take the lead on some stuff. Philip mentions knowing that EJ got in his way of buying the hospital. Xander questions how he knew about that. Philip reminds him that his mother is on the board. Xander says he doesn’t have time to get in to that with him. Xander tells Philip that Kayla turned down EJ’s pitch, so there’s still a chance Titan could buy the hospital if Philip didn’t do anything stupid while he was off the grid today.

Gabi admits to Alex that she was wrong about how she predicted this evening would go. Alex agrees that he had a good time. Gabi acknowledges that it’s clear that they would both rather be having dinner with someone else. Alex suggests she give JJ a call but Gabi calls that a bad idea. Gabi tells Alex that hanging out with him is nice as he’s easy to talk to. Gabi adds that she wouldn’t mind doing it again if he’d be up for it. Alex agrees and jokes about her coughing up another 15 grand as they toast their wine.

EJ thanks Rachel but says he’s fine. Rachel asks if he’s upset that he won’t be a Grandpa anymore. EJ admits he feels very bad about Johnny no longer adopting Tate’s child as it would have been very nice to grow the family. Rachel argues that EJ does have family like Kristen, who she insists did not shoot him. EJ says he’s afraid he can’t remember who shot him, so the person could still be out there somewhere. Kristen tells Rachel not to worry about that as they have lots of security and she’s sure the police will find out who did this and put them away for a very long time. Rachel yawns and decides she’s tired. Brady says the party just started but Rachel asks to go to bed. Kristen questions Rachel not opening up all her presents. Rachel says she’ll do it tomorrow, so Kristen sends her upstairs. Kristen and Brady blame EJ for scaring Rachel by saying there might be a maniac out there. EJ remarks that the shooter could also be under this roof and he could be looking straight at her.

Belle questions Kayla thinking EJ wants to own the hospital to own the patent on this drug. Kayla knows that Belle wants to think the best of EJ, so she hopes he has changed. Belle believes he has but admits she’s sometimes skeptical that the change will last and she still has moments of doubt. Belle says she really does see the humanity in EJ more than she ever has so she’s going to give him a chance to prove that he wants to be a better man. Kayla hopes he does prove that to her. Belle understands her reservations about EJ buying the hospital, but asks her to keep an open mind as she exits.

Gabi walks through the town square and runs in to Belle. Gabi has last minute birthday gifts for Arianna and reveals that she’s coming home which Belle calls great news. Gabi is sure Will and Sonny will be there soon. Belle comments that they just need John to come home and the whole family will be back together again.

EJ and Kristen argue leading to Kristen knocking things over and causing a commotion which knocks EJ back to the seat he was in when he was shot, triggering flashbacks for him. Rachel screams and runs downstairs to tell Brady and Kristen that she had a nightmare and heard a gunshot. Kristen says she just knocked over a tray and promises her that she’s safe.

Alex joins Xander at Titan and they talk about Sarah’s recovery. Xander jokes about being too protective and admits it gives him time to focus on their pitch to the hospital board. Alex admires his quick thinking and says if he hadn’t convinced Kayla to let them join EJ’s meeting, EJ might have walked away with the hospital and then he would own Dr. Jeffrey Russell’s drug. Xander says they cannot allow that to happen, so there is no room for error and need to stay on their toes. Alex is glad Xander is in the driver’s seat as he’s less likely to drive them off a cliff..

Philip walks through the town square and calls Kevin, apologizing for cutting their meeting short and says he couldn’t risk Alex catching wind of their plan. Kevin informs him that the plan may go in to effect sooner than they think because he just got a text from Dr. Russell that he’s giving the whole team the week off because he has to attend a medical conference. Kevin asks if Philip thinks they’ll be ready to move by then. Philip responds that they don’t have a choice as for Bo, it’s the difference between life or death.

Kayla gets a call from Steve and says she’s been worried while waiting for his call. Kayla knows this is the only way to save Bo’s life but she doesn’t want Steve and Shawn going to prison in the process. Kayla says she loves him and hangs up.

Philip exits the Brady Pub and runs in to Belle, who comments on him being in a good mood which is quite a change from yesterday when he seemed bummed about his situation with Xander. Philip responds that today, he’s found a way to fix all of that which Belle questions.

Sarah wakes up in her hospital bed with Xander sitting by her side. They joke about their trip being cancelled. Sarah tells Xander that he doesn’t have to stay here as she’s sure he has work to do. Xander reminds her that everyone at work thinks he’s on vacation, so he’s free to spend all his time with his beloved wife.

EJ goes to Kayla’s office at the hospital and tells her that he’s left her several messages, questioning why she hasn’t called him back. Kayla repeats that she’s not interested in his offer. EJ brings up that Chad told him about Xander making a bid for the hospital. Kayla responds that Xander is on vacation with Sarah now but when he gets back, she understands he plans to make a pitch to the board. EJ says that’s why he’s going to make his pitch first. EJ reveals that he went over Kayla’s head and secured a meeting with the board, himself. EJ tells Kayla that there’s something the board should know about his offer as he added one small condition that he hopes won’t ruffle too many feathers.

Paulina goes to see Johnny at the Salem Inn. Johnny tells her that he was just packing. Paulina says she’s happy that he and Chanel were able to work things out, but before he moves back home, they need to have a little heart to heart.

Kate questions why Roman thinks someone took his gun and used it to shoot EJ. Roman explains that the night of the shooting, he and Johnny were at the Pub talking about all the terrible things that EJ had done and at one point, he mentioned keeping the gun in a lockbox behind the bar. Roman admits he was venting and fantasizing about shooting EJ so he just blurted it out. Roman adds that they were still talking when Kate called about Rex’s accident, so he stepped in to the kitchen to take the call and when he came back, Johnny was gone and so was the gun. Kate asks if Roman thinks Johnny took the gun and used it to shoot his own father. Kate asks what made Roman decide to check the lockbox when he realized Johnny had left. Roman calls it a gut feeling since Johnny was edgy and just left like that without saying goodbye, so something told him that he went to confront EJ. Roman informs Kate that he hopped in his car and went straight to the DiMera Mansion. Kate asks if anyone was there. Roman reveals that he got out and went towards the door, but he found his gun in one of the planters outside. Roman says before he could investigate further, he heard sirens on the way, so he grabbed the gun to protect Johnny and got the hell out of there. Roman adds that when he got back to the Pub, he wiped off the fingerprints and put the gun back in the lockbox and eventually decided it needed to be more secure so he moved it, but he wishes he never mentioned the gun to Johnny. Kate asks if Roman has confronted Johnny about it. Roman admits he hasn’t, so Kate feels he can’t be sure then that Johnny is guilty.

Paulina asks Johnny to sit down and listen to what she has to say. Paulina tells Johnny that she’s always been fond of him which Johnny says is mutual. Paulina adds that what really sold her is how he treated her daughter as she could tell he loved and respected her with all his heart. Johnny says he still does. Paulina knows since even though Johnny let Chanel down badly, she’s still be in his corner. Johnny says he appreciates that. Paulina admits she can’t just ignore that Johnny has hurt Chanel more than once recently, so if he breaks her heart one more time, she will have burned his last bridge with her.

Sarah tells Xander that they need to talk about what happened in the town square earlier and says that the way he talked to Felicity was not okay. Xander agrees and admits that he was a complete jerk so he owes her and Cat an apology.

EJ walks through the town square and drops his phone which Cat picks up for him. EJ mentions rushing around town all day and not being back to his regular strength yet. Cat suggests he sit down and rest a bit but EJ says he’ll be fine. Cat insists that he join her because she has a question on her mind that she wanted to ask him, so EJ sits with her. Cat tells EJ that she knows he gave Chad his reasons, but she wanted to ask herself why he bid on her for the bachelorette auction. EJ calls it an impulse buy as he thought it would be a fun way to make a donation. Cat asks why her. EJ explains that he didn’t want to go out with someone who hates his guts so that eliminated half the candidates but he also didn’t want to go out with a total stranger. Cat says they hardly know each other. EJ feels they do have a connection, pointing out that she did trick people in to believing she was his dead sister in law.

Philip informs Belle that he recently caught wind of the fact that Xander has something big in the works for Titan-DiMera. Belle asks if it’s a secret project. Philip says he just doesn’t want to say much but it seems important and he did a little digging, so it turns out there’s more to the deal than meets the eye. Philip declares that while Xander is out of town with Sarah, he’s going to do his best to make sure Xander’s plan succeeds and with any luck, that will finally put him back in Xander’s good graces. Belle hopes it all works out and tells him to let her know how it goes as she walks away.

Kayla goes to check on Sarah in her hospital room. Sarah says she’s feeling much better and jokes that being taken out by a scone would be a hell of way to go. Kayla feels it must’ve been scary which Xander confirms. Sarah asks about not having to stay the night but Kayla says she doesn’t want to take any chances. Sarah asks Xander to get her tablet from her office and says she wants to call Victoria since she will be disappointed about not going on the trip. Xander says he’ll be right back and exits. Kayla comments to Sarah on her and Xander being pretty happy.

Cat tells EJ that she should get going. EJ asks if he offended her. Cat says she has thick skin but isn’t trying to relive her worst moments. EJ calls it a light hearted joke and apologizes, so Cat sits back down. Cat admits that she deserved it and what she did was unforgivable. EJ points out that Chad seems to have forgiven her. Cat says Chad has a big heart. EJ hopes they have fun on their date. Cat says it’s not that kind of date. EJ jokes that it’s just two friends hanging out on his dime. Cat calls it pretty generous of him. EJ remarks that he’s in a relationship with Belle now and didn’t want to give her the wrong impression. EJ is sure Chad is looking forward to spending time with Cat. Cat asks if Chad said that. EJ responds that he knows Chad pretty well whether he wants to admit it or not. Cat points out that Chad was really upset when EJ was shot so it’s clear he loves him. EJ appreciates that and assures he loves Chad too. EJ hopes one day he can repay Chad for saving his life. Cat remarks that the stories around town about EJ aren’t flattering. EJ hopes Cat is not buying in to them and jokes that he’s a gem of a human being. Cat admits maybe EJ has some redeeming qualities and isn’t all bad.

Johnny tells Paulina that he knows how much heartache he’s caused Chanel and it kills him to see her suffering because of him. Johnny vows that he has no intention of ever hurting her again. Paulina asks if he has a plan. Johnny tells her that he just made an appointment with a therapist and he just accepted a job offer from Xander to work at Titan-DiMera. Johnny declares that it’s time to find something different. Paulina points out that he never wanted a corporate job before. Johnny says he enjoyed being a director but it’s not conducive to a stable home life and this gives him a chance to work at his family job without having to work with his actual family. Paulina feels the main reason Johnny took the job was to stick it to EJ.

Roman tells Kate that she’s right that he can’t be certain that Johnny is the shooter since everything he knows is circumstantial but his hunches are usually pretty good. Kate admits Sami also had suspicions. Roman confirms that she told him that too but Sami eventually concluded that Johnny wasn’t capable of it. Roman adds that he didn’t tell Sami about the gun since she’s known for making bad situations worse so he thought it was best to keep her out of it. Kate agrees and asks if he ever plans to talk to Johnny about it. Roman says he doesn’t. Roman doesn’t feel great about it but says that EJ survived and he feels responsible since he tipped Johnny off about what EJ did to Sami. Kate points out that she’s the one who told him the details. Roman says Kate was forced to. Roman feels that Johnny has suffered enough, so he doesn’t want him to suffer more because of something any of them would’ve done if they had gotten to EJ first. Roman asks Kate not to say anything to anyone. Kate agrees to do so and notes that she can’t believe Roman kept all of this to himself the whole time. Kate is glad he could share it with her. Roman admits that it felt good to get it off his chest. Kate then tells Roman there is something that she needs to tell him. Kate reveals to Roman that the letter Victor wrote Philip was forged by Vivian but Philip was in on it and Xander now knows, but he can’t go public to expel Philip because it could possibly nullify the DiMera takeover. Roman calls it a mess and asks who else knows. Kate says just a handful like Alex and Stephanie who have both agreed to stay quiet, so she hopes Roman will do the same. Roman agrees to not say a word. Kate thanks him and hopes he isn’t angry that she waited so long to come forward. Roman can’t stay he approves of what Philip did or Kate keeping the secret, but he doesn’t have room to judge since he could very well be covering up an attempted murder. Kate states that they are both protecting the people they love. Roman asks if they can trust each other a little more in the future because he wants to share anything and everything with her from now on. Kate says she wants that too as they hug.

Johnny admits to Paulina that sticking it to EJ was definitely part of the reason that he accepted Xander’s job offer and that it was satisfying seeing his face when he told him that he was going to work for the man who took his family’s company. Paulina gets why Johnny is upset with EJ but tells him about a book that she just read which said the best revenge against your enemy is to not become like your enemy. Johnny thinks back to pulling the gun on EJ and responds that it might be a little late for that.

EJ returns home to the DiMera Mansion where Belle is waiting in the living room. Belle helps him to the couch and notes that he doesn’t look so good. EJ says he might have overdid it since he’s been putting out fires all day which Belle questions. EJ informs Belle that he’s putting in a bid to buy University Hospital. Belle calls that amazing and says it will make a lot of people happy. EJ reveals that Kayla turned down his initial offer. Belle didn’t know that she had that kind of power. EJ explains that Kayla doesn’t trust him and is convinced he has ulterior motives. Belle asks if he does. EJ responds that his main intention is saving the vital institution that just helped save his life. Belle asks how he plans to get past Kayla. EJ informs her that he went over her head to secure a meeting with the full board. Belle asks if he’s optimistic if Kayla will be overruled. EJ says he would be but he’s discovered he has competition as Xander is in the running, so he needs Belle to help him beat Xander.

Xander runs in to Cat in the hospital and asks if she has a moment to talk because he really needs to apologize for jumping to conclusions about Felicity and blamed her for something that wasn’t her fault. Cat says if he’s truly sorry, he should apologize to Felicity directly. Xander agrees and says he will do that.

Kate and Roman come back downstairs to the Pub where Philip greets them. Philip asks to talk to Kate in private so Roman goes to the back to talk to Doug III. Philip asks Kate for a favor and tells her that he needs her to get the rest of the hospital board to accept Xander’s offer to buy the hospital because he thinks it would go a long way in getting Xander to forgive him. Kate agrees to help but notes that EJ has also put in a bid. Philip mentions that Alex told him and that Kayla turned him down. Kate adds that EJ is demanding a sitdown with the board. Kate imagines EJ knows that Xander has scheduled a meeting and is trying to get in his pitch first. Kate tells Philip that if the board doesn’t accept EJ’s offer on the spot, it disappears. Philip realizes EJ is not messing around. Kate talks about how much financial trouble the hospital is in, so she doesn’t understand why Xander and EJ are so determined to buy it since it can’t be out of the goodness of their non-existant hearts. Philip reveals that he wondered the same thing so he did some snooping and thinks he figured out what’s really going on. Philip informs Kate that he spoke to the director of DiMera Pharmaceuticals, who told him about a drug called Versivex to cure Sepsis which is being worked on by Dr. Jeffrey Russell who happens to be employed by the hospital. Kate comments on what that could do for the hospital and realizes that’s why it’s so important to Xander and EJ. Philip brings up the personal reasons of what it could do for Bo if they could get a hold of the drug. Kate thinks if that were possible, Kayla would’ve already done it. Philip comments on the Bradys always doing the right thing. Kate says most of the time. Philip feels believing Xander is out of town and EJ pushing for an immediate answer, if he could get the drug, he could save Bo and win over Xander at the same time.

Cat doesn’t think Xander gets how badly his accusation hurt Felicity and how she has always dealt with people making assumptions about her, so what he did reinforced her insecurities and she didn’t deserve that. Xander agrees, so Cat says she’ll be waiting for his apology and hopes it’s good. Xander says he’ll do his best. Cat hopes so because word has gotten around that Xander plans to buy the hospital and if he succeeds, she hopes he uses better judgment because the hospital needs someone who exhibits kindness. Xander questions the qualities she used when pretending to be Abigail. Cat remarks that’s twice in one day then tells Xander that he’s right and that she will regret what she did to Chad and the Hortons for the rest of her life. Cat says she’s doing her best to make amends to the people she’s hurt and hopes Xander does the same with Felicity.

Sarah asks Kayla if there’s anything new on Bo. Kayla says no but she hopes for some good news soon. Kayla says she’s very excited that Xander is making an offer to buy the hospital which surprises Sarah as she had not heard of this. Kayla suggests maybe she’s trying to surprise her or not wanting to get her hopes up because it turns out EJ went to the board, so it looks like EJ and Xander will be presenting their respective offers. Sarah says that’s the first she’s hearing of that too. Kayla tells Sarah that she will do everything in her power to make sure Xander wins.

Belle tells EJ that Philip mentioned that Xander was working on some super secret project at DiMera and guesses that’s what it is. Belle adds that after everything Xander’s done to her family, she’ll be more than happy to help EJ outmaneuver him. Belle asks what she needs to do. EJ asks her to go on the defense for him with the board. EJ says he knows certain members will never vote for him but there may be a few on the fence and he thinks Belle could swing them to his way. Belle asks which members he’s talking about. EJ suggests starting with Brady. Belle thinks that will be a hard sell. EJ feels she can pull it off and asks her to give it a shot. Belle agrees to do her best. EJ calls her the best as they kiss.

Paulina questions if Johnny is saying that he’s already become like his father. Johnny clarifies that he doesn’t mean he’d do the kind of things he’s done but that he’s been selfish lately and he’s hurt the people he’s loved. Paulina gets the feeling that he had something else in mind. Johnny claims not really. Paulina mentions talking to Abe this morning and he said Chanel has been worried that Johnny might be the one who shot EJ. Johnny says he knows she had some questions and that she all but accused him of pulling the trigger earlier. Johnny tells Paulina that he’s not the shooter. Paulina asks if that’s the truth.

Belle tells EJ that she hasn’t forgotten her promise to talk to Johnny on his behalf. EJ is afraid she can scratch that off because it’s a lost cause. Belle asks if something happened. EJ says they just got in to a rather ugly incident today. EJ says he was trying to get through to him but Johnny basically told him he’d hate him forever, wishes he was dead, and is going to take a job with Xander to spite him. Belle says she’s sorry as that’s really rough. EJ feels it’s more reason to beat Xander on the hospital deal. EJ tells Belle that they have to somehow convince the board that he’s the lesser of two evils between he and Xander.

Xander returns to Sarah with her tablet, who jokes that she can ask him to do anything after being poisoned. Sarah asks Xander if he wants to tell her about his bid to buy the hospital. Xander wondered if Kayla would tell her. Sarah questions why he didn’t tell her since he didn’t say anything when she told him about EJ’s offer. Xander says he didn’t want to jinx anything. Sarah says she gets that but questions what made him want to make an offer. Xander says it was her of course as he can’t have her losing her job and he knows how important the hospital is to her and her family. Sarah admits that the Hortons and University Hospital go all the way back to Tom and Alice. Sarah asks if it makes sense for Titan-DiMera financially to take on a struggling hospital. Xander assures it is the right move for the company. Sarah feels he’ll have a fight on his hand with EJ. Xander says he’s bested him once and plans to do it again at all costs. Xander promises not to spiral out of control and it will be all above board.

Kate tells Philip that she’s not sure he could buy the rights to Versivex since Jeffrey is contracted to the hospital and Philip doesn’t know anything about pharmaceuticals. Philip brings up his nerdy friend from high school named Kevin Lambert and says he just moved back to Salem and is looking for a job. Roman comes over and says he needs Kate’s help with a delivery order. Kate wishes Philip luck and says she’ll see what she can do to help. Philip thanks her as Kate goes with Roman. Philip brings up Kevin Lambert’s profile on his phone but learns that Kevin is already currently working at the lab of Dr. Jeffrey Russell.

Cat gets a call at the hospital. Cat says she got all ten of their messages but assumed he would get the picture by her not responding. Cat says she’s not interested and tells them to stop calling her as she hangs up.

Paulina tells Johnny that she can keep a secret and she’s only interested in protecting Chanel, so she asks him to tell her the truth. Johnny responds that it’s no secret that he hates his father and he has wished him dead more than once lately, but he did not shoot him. Paulina decides she believes him. Paulina says she’ll let him get back to packing as she really is glad he’s coming home as they hug.

Belle tells EJ that a few months ago, if she had to make a case for him, she thinks the lesser of two evils route may have been her only choice. Belle admits she thinks much of what he’s done in the past is reprehensible and he’s screwed up, but she doesn’t think he’s evil at all. EJ is relieved to hear her say that. Belle adds that she doesn’t think he woke up from his coma and is suddenly a saint but she does think he’s changed. Belle hopes that this new EJ and his recovery continues. EJ assures that even if the old EJ rears it’s head one day, it will never change how he feels about her as they kiss.

Xander and Sarah finish a video chat with Victoria. They talk about her getting bigger and how time is flying by. Xander suggests giving Victoria a brother or sister and asks what she thinks about having another baby. Sarah thinks that sounds great as they hug.

Philip calls Kevin Lambert and says he got his message and would love to meet up as they have a lot to discuss.

Kristen goes to see Brady and says she wanted to see him in person to give him a card.

Alex goes to the DiMera Enterpirses office and pulls out Stephanie’s manuscript from his briefcase and continues to read her novel until Philip walks in and questions what he’s reading. Alex claims it’s just a report that Xander wanted him to take a look at. Philip asks if it has anything to do with Titan-DiMera making a play for University Hospital.

At the Brady Pub, Kate finishes going over the rules of working there with Doug III on his first day. Kate goes over the policy of what to do in case of a robbery and notes that Roman does keep a gun behind the bar but he’s the only one licensed to use it and he keeps it in a lockbox. Kate then goes behind the bar but finds the lockbox is missing.

In the town square, Johnny questions Chanel really thinking he’s capable of shooting his own father. Chanel doesn’t want to think that but brings up how he’s been acting and how many times he’s said he wished EJ was dead. Johnny assures he meant every word and now EJ knows that he wished he had died.

Philip asks Alex why Xander is selling off valuable assets to buy a flailing hospital. Alex think that’s a conversation he should have with Xander. Philip points out the last time he talked to Xander, he threatened to throw him out the window. Alex asks if Philip waited until Xander was out of town to show his face again. Philip still hopes to make things right with Xander. Philip knows he has a long way to go but argues that he’s still co-CEO so he has a right to know what’s going on. Alex questions that and asks if they had a right to know that Philip forged a letter that put him here in the first place. Philip repeats that he’s not proud of tricking Xander in to giving him half of the company, but he can’t take that back. Philip says what he can do is make sure Titan-DiMera is successful. Alex questions Philip wanting him to help him with that.

Brady asks Kristen what the card is. Kristen explains that it’s an invitation to Rachel’s birthday party tonight. Brady thought it was an all girls party. Kristen says that Rachel made an exception for her dad. Brady questions if Rachel knows about this since he doubts she would want her dad hanging around her friends. Kristen tells him to forget it and asks why she would think he’s any different. Brady stops her and asks what she’s talking about. Kristen informs him that she sent invitations to all the girls in Rachel’s class and all of them said no, so no one is coming. Brady worries that Rachel will be devastated. Kristen says that’s why she hoped Brady would show up to help her forget that she doesn’t have a friend in the world.

Kate wonders where the lockbox could have gone. Roman then comes out from the back. Kate sends Doug III to wipe off the tables while she asks Roman why he moved his gun. Roman says he dropped it off to get cleaned. Kate remarks that for once, he’s the one lying to her face.

Chanel asks Johnny when he spoke to his father. Johnny says he showed up at the Pub as he was finishing breakfast with Marlena, so he told him to his face that he wished he was dead. Chanel feels he shouldn’t have done that. Johnny tells Chanel that wanting his father dead and making it happen are two very different things. Chanel questions if they are. Johnny asks where this is coming from. Chanel goes over how Johnny called off the adoption right after the shooting and then talking about not being sure who he was anymore. Chanel adds that Johnny was gone for hours on the night of the shooting. Johnny reminds her that he went for a walk. Chanel asks if anyone saw him. Johnny questions her asking him for an alibi and jokes that she should try out for the police department. Chanel tells him this isn’t funny as EJ could’ve died. Johnny responds that he’s convinced that would’ve made the world a better place but he’s not the one who pulled the trigger.

Kristen complains that the other little girls were conspiring to hurt Rachel’s feelings and heart was broken. Brady says they can’t put this all on the other girls because Rachel is not the easiest person to get along with. Kristen argues that she’s a confused kid who has gone through so much lately, including her mother and Brady’s father missing. Kristen argues that Rachel didn’t know her mother long but they did form a bond. Brady doesn’t want to be reminded of that because Kristen’s mother’s influence caused their daughter to be an accessory to kidnapping.

Alex questions why the hell he would help Philip after he lied to their entire family. Philip argues that helping him helps the family and says he won’t sit back and watch Xander screw up the merger of a lifetime just because he wants to save his wife’s job.

Kate and Roman go up to their room to talk in private. Roman questions Kate thinking he’s lying to her. Kate responds that she learned the art of deception from Stefano and Victor who were good liars while Roman is an amateur and she sees right through him. Kate asks Roman to tell her what’s going on with this gun.

Holly goes to the Pub to see Doug III and mentions the prom being tonight but tickets are sold out and she’s not going which Doug III questions. Holly says she doesn’t want to but this time, last year it was all she could think about and now it’s the last thing she would do.

Johnny asks if Chanel believes that he didn’t shoot his father. Chanel says she believes him but argues that he needs to deal with his feelings. Chanel knows EJ did some messed up things to him and Sami but he’s still his father and he could’ve died. Chanel does not believe Johnny would’ve been okay with that. Paulina comes over and greets them. Paulina mentions hearing about Sarah and asks if Chanel is okay. Chanel guesses bad news travels fast, so it won’t be long before the whole town knows that she almost killed Sarah.

Doug III apologizes to Holly and says he hates that she’s missing her senior prom because of him.

Paulina is sure not everyone knows what happened to Sarah and she just happened to bump in to her and Xander at the hospital, but Sarah is fine and will be discharged tomorrow. Johnny encourages that it’s over and everything will be fine. Chanel worries that Xander could sue her and the Bakery. Paulina feels Xander is just relieved that Sarah is fine. Chanel brings up how upset Xander was. Paulina assures that Xander will cool down and thinks he must like her since he did marry her for five minutes. Chanel doesn’t think that will be enough for him to forgive her for almost killing the love of his life.

Alex questions Philip thinking Xander is making a play for the hospital just to save Sarah’s job. Philip asks what other reason there could be, pointing out that the hospital has been bleeding money for years. Alex suggests they could make changes. Philip argues that they aren’t in the business of fixing failing hospitals as they could take years. Alex tells Philip that Xander thinks they could make a whole lot of money with the hospital. Philip asks if he said how. Alex turns away, so Philip guesses there is another reason and Alex just isn’t telling him what it is.

Kristen declares that she should go and doesn’t know why she bothered thinking Brady would come. Brady stops her. Kristen complains about Brady taking shots at Rachel’s grandmother. Brady understands Rachel misses her grandparents but they can’t pretend she just started acting out. Brady brings up how Rachel acted towards Chloe. Kristen gets upset at Brady bringing up Chloe. Brady blames Kristen’s reaction for why Rachel is acting the way she is. Brady then asks Kristen how many friends she has.

Kate tells Roman that she fell in love with him because he was different from all the other men she had been with as he was honest, decent, and frugal which is why she knows he didn’t pay someone to clean his gun as she’s watched him do it. Roman has no idea where this is leading. Kate points out that they both had motive to want EJ dead, they both had guns, and they both went out on that night. Kate says as much as she would’ve relished the opportunity to fire a round in to EJ’s chest, she knows for a fact that she did not. Kate then asks Roman if he did.

Chanel doesn’t know how she mixed up the tray of vegan scones with the lemon ones. Paulina encourages that everyone makes mistakes and she shouldn’t beat herself up. Johnny agrees since Chanel has had plenty of her mind. Chanel agrees that she hasn’t been sleeping or thinking straight which Johnny blames himself for.

Holly questions why Doug III is the reason she’s not going to prom. Doug III points out that if she and Tate were still together, she’d be going tonight, and they would still be together if it wasn’t for him. Holly doesn’t know about that since they were on shaky ground already. Doug III feels he was the final straw. Holly argues that Tate ratted him out to Julie so that’s on him and he also is having a baby with another girl. Holly remarks that Tate would be taking Sophia to the prom if her doctor hadn’t put her on restricted activity. Doug III acknowledges that’s really tough. Holly admits she feels bad for Sophia since she never wanted the baby and now she’s missing all these senior year moments. Doug III relates to also missing his prom and reveals to Holly that he dropped out of high school.

Philip asks Alex what he’s not telling him about the hospital. Alex says the hospital may not be the money pit that Philip thinks he is and if it was, EJ wouldn’t be sniffing around. Alex adds that EJ wants to make a bid but Kayla wouldn’t even present it to the board. Philip guesses he will just have to trust that Alex and Xander know what they are doing. Philip adds that he can talk to Kate about rallying the other board members to their bid. Alex questions if he would do that. Philip assures that he only wants what’s best for Titan-DiMera. Philip decides he should head out as he’s meeting Brady at the Pub. Alex stops him and says he appreciates him coming on board. Philip then exits the office. As he walks away, he begins to text on his phone.

Kristen tells Brady that Lani is the only true friend she’ll ever need. Brady argues that Lani doesn’t live in Salem and she never sees her. Kristen asks if he really wants to talk about the behavior they are modeling for their daughter and brings up Brady’s drinking. Brady says he figured she’d got here. Kristen admits it was low and knows how hard he’s worked to get sober, so she apologizes. Kristen says they have both gone over their problems so they need to stop backpedaling and work on their daughter. Brady agrees that they are both to blame. Kristen says she’s tried to talk Rachel down from her worst impulses and she doesn’t want Rachel to grow up to be like her, a needy hot mess with obsessive tendencies. Brady doesn’t know if he’d describe her quite like that. Kristen guesses he’s just being nice. Kristen asks how to convey to their daughter to have strength when she couldn’t even hold on to the most important job she had. Kristen wanted Rachel to be proud of her being a lady boss, but all she was able to show her is how Stefano lost his empire to a pair of mouth breathing goons. Kristen brings up when her office was packed up and there was the little tiny vase that Rachel made her in summer camp, but now it’s Alex’s office. Brady gets a text from Philip about meeting at the Pub, so he tells Kristen that he has to cut this short. Kristen guesses Philip wants to gloat. Brady tells her it’s about Basic Black and Titan. Kristen comments on missing work lunches. Brady asks if she’ll be okay. Kristen responds that she’s a survivor as the one thing her father taught her is how to rise from the ashes.

Holly points out that Doug III never told her that he didn’t graduate high school. He says she never asked and he knows not having a high school diploma makes people think you’re dumb or troubled. Holly asks why he quit. Doug III says he was running with a tough crowd who would skip school so he started to do it too and his grades slipped but no one at home cared, so he didn’t either and he realized it was easier to just not go. Holly tells him that he could always get his GED and offers to help him study. Doug III says it couldn’t help and it’s a bonus if he gets to spend time with his favorite person in Salem. Brady and Philip arrive at the Pub. Brady greets Holly, who asks how he’s doing. Brady says he’s good but wishes he could say the same for Tate. Holly asks what’s wrong with Tate. Brady responds that Tate really misses her. Holly says she has to go and tells Doug III to think about her offer as she exits the Pub. Doug III goes to get menus for Brady and Philip as they grab a table. Brady asks Philip how Basic Black fits in to this corporate synergy framework. Philip confesses that’s not why he wants to have lunch today so Brady asks why he’s here. Philip asks what Brady knows about Xander’s bid for the hospital. Brady says not much but then questions why he called it Xander’s bid when he is the co-CEO. Philip says he’s just asking. Brady suggests Xander has froze him out and he’s fishing for information. Brady tells Philip that he has to get ready for Rachel’s birthday, so he will have to find himself another mole, leaving Philip frustrated.

Roman tells Kate that if he was going to shoot EJ, he would’ve done it a long damn time ago. Kate brings up that Roman said he was triggered by what EJ and Arnold did to Jada and Rafe. Roman admits it brought back terrible memories of what they did to Sami. Kate says that is why she wouldn’t blame him if he shot EJ and would support him through everything. Kate asks Roman again if he shot EJ. Roman says no. Kate hugs him in relief.

Johnny tells Chanel that if this is anyone’s fault, it’s his as he’s the reason she hasn’t been sleeping or concentrating. Johnny adds that yesterday was Mother’s Day and she would have had Mother’s Day orders all day at the Bakery. Chanel says she’s been trying to be strong but it’s hard when it feels like she’s losing everything she cares about including her marriage and her dreams of being a mother and now her business.

Kristen goes to the DiMera Enterprises office and comments on Alex making himself comfortable in her office. Alex asks what she’s doing here. Kristen says she’s not here to cause trouble and mentions missing a little blue vase when her things were packed up. Alex calls it a little ugly thing and says he threw it away. Kristen argues that her daughter made it and she thought it was beautiful. Alex admits he didn’t know that while Kristen doesn’t think he would care. Alex knows this is probably weird for her. Kristen complains about Xander and Philip ripping her birthright from her. Alex is sure she will land on her feet and asks what he can do for her. Kristen brings up that they were friends once. Alex asks again what she wants. Kristen hoped she could convince him to put in a good word for her with Xander and Philip. Alex doesn’t think they’d be interested in her prowess in bed and he’s not interested anymore either. Kristen guesses she’ll have to play it straight. Kristen says she’s a serious, driven woman who is very passionate about her career, so she’d still like to be working at DiMera-Titan. Kristen says she may no longer be CEO but she could still be an asset to the company as she has a lot to contribute. Alex responds that he’s sorry but there’s nothing he can do to help her. Kristen thanks him for nothing and storms out.

Brady exits the Pub and runs in to Kristen, who asks if his meeting is done already. Brady confirms it is and asks if she’s okay. Kristen explains that she went to Titan-DiMera to retrieve the vase that Rachel made her but Alex had thrown it away like garbage. Brady says he’s sorry about that. Kristen talks about Rachel making the vase and says she’s feeling emotional about Rachel turning a year older. Kristen cries that it’s going so fast. Brady thinks that’s why they should try to make sure she has a lot of fun at her birthday party. Kristen questions that being just her and her mother but Brady says they can make it a real party with the three of them. Kristen excitedly hugs Brady and thanks him.

Kate tells Roman that she’s sorry for accusing him of attempted murder. Roman agrees it made sense but forgives her and he’s glad they got this out in the open. Kate says there is something that still puzzles her and questions why he moved the lockbox. Roman responds that there is something he needs to tell her, but she can’t tell anyone anything. Kate thinks they both know she can keep a secret better than him. Roman then informs Kate that on the night of the shooting, somebody took his gun and he is worried that they used it on EJ.

Johnny asks Paulina to give he and Chanel a minute to talk. Paulina agrees to go get something to eat and walks away. Chanel asks Johnny what he needs to say. Johnny just wants to say again how sorry he is for how he handled everything and for blindsiding her about the adoption when he should’ve told her how he was feeling from the beginning. Johnny assures that he does want to start a family with her once he gets his head screwed on straight. Chanel questions how he plans to do that. Johnny informs her that he’s starting therapy and reveals that he just accepted a job from Xander at Titan. Chanel remarks that EJ is going to love that. Johnny says he already knows and he doesn’t care what EJ thinks. Johnny says he cares about Chanel and building the life they want to start a family together. Chanel says that’s what she cares about too. Johnny notes that it’s almost checkout time at the Salem Inn so he guesses he should let them know he needs to extend his stay. Johnny says he will text her and starts to walk on but Chanel stops him and tells him to go ahead and checkout, so he can come home. Johnny and Chanel embrace as Paulina watches on with a smile.

Alex sits in the town square with Stephanie’s manuscript. Alex pulls out his phone and makes a call to a publisher to take a look at something for him.

Philip returns to the DiMera Enterprises office and looks around to make sure it’s empty. Philip begins searching Alex’s desk and pulls out a folder on DiMera Pharmaceuticals which he begins to look through. Philip finds a number inside and makes a call to a doctor. Philip tells him that Xander is out of town and unreachable at the moment, but he asked him to reach out to him. Philip asks the doctor to get him up to speed as he just has a few questions.
