Steffy wonders why Carter, Hope and Brooke are having a conversation in Brooke’s office. They cover up their conversation (about Hope and Carter’s romance) by changing the subject. Steffy is still suspicious. When Steffy keeps insulting Hope, Steffy asks Brooke and Carter to let them talk privately. Steffy wonders what’s going on Hope and Carter. Hope says they just believe in each other, but Steffy doesn’t buy it. She threatens Hope that she’ll end Hope’s line if she crosses the line again with Finn. Carter and Brooke have a chat about Hope’s previous boyfriends and husbands. Carter assures her that he’ll always support Hope and never hurt her. Carter goes back to Hope, hearing the end of her conversation with Steffy. He tells Hope that he won’t stand for the way Steffy treats her.

Ridge and Eric chat briefly about Carter’s ideas. Then Ivy and Electra arrive. Ridge asks to see the jewelry designs and then tells them that they’ll be hired to re-start the jewelry line. Ivy and Electra are happy to join the family company.

Ridge and Brooke kiss; then they discuss Steffy and Hope.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Sophia runs in to Tate in the town square and asks what he’s doing there. Tate responds that he was waiting for her.

Holly goes to the Brady Pub to see Eric, who is surprised to see she’s back. Holly informs him that her flight from Paris just landed and that she came here to talk to him. Eric mentions hearing from Nicole that she was glad to see her and asks if the trip went well. Holly says yes and no.

Chad returns home where Julie greets him and says she just put the children down as she didn’t know he was coming home. Chad says that’s probably for the best. Julie asks where Abigail is, then guesses that she didn’t get her memory back in Paris. Chad then reveals to Julie that it wasn’t Abigail.

Cat and Mark are put in holding cells opposite each other at the police station. Cat asks him what happened. Mark responds that he’s sorry about their mother, so Cat worries that she’s dead.

Steve goes to see Marlena, who says she got his message. Steve says he’s sorry to come by so late. Marlena says she was up and asks about his flight. Steve says it was long and that he and Chad just landed but neither got any sleep. Marlena can’t imagine how hard this must be for Chad to find out that the woman he thought was Abigail was an impostor. Steve states that she’s been lying to them for months. Marlena asks how Chad is holding up. Steve responds that he barely said a word the whole way home and that he’s at Julie’s, breaking the news to her now.

Chad informs Julie that it was all a hoax and that Jennifer was right all along. Julie calls it terrible for him and says she’s so sorry, asking what Clyde expected to get out of it this time. Chad reveals that Clyde wanted his family’s money as Cat’s idea was to marry him to steal it. Julie questions the idea of Chad marrying a woman he hardly knows, but Chad reveals that he did marry her yesterday.

Mark tells Cat that he doesn’t know if their mom was killed as they wouldn’t put his call through to Clyde. Mark guesses Clyde figured out that he didn’t carry out his marching orders since Chad is still alive, so they obviously can’t get his money and Clyde has no use for them or their mom anymore. Cat argues that he doesn’t know that for a fact yet, so they can’t just assume or give up if there’s still any hope that their mom is still alive.

Holly tells Eric about how she thought it would be so romantic for Chad and Abigail to get remarried in Paris, but she ended up being the one to expose Cat as an impostor. Eric says it sounds like it was good she was there. Holly adds that she was glad that Eric encouraged her to go since right before she left, she forgave her mom.

Tate asks Sophia why she’s surprised that he was waiting for her since they had a good time last night. They agree that the movie they saw was dumb, so Tate hopes they can try again. Sophia agrees and asks what he has in mind. Tate suggests they could go out to dinner to mix it up which Sophia agrees to, so they take a table at the town square.

Eric tells Holly that he’s so happy to hear that she forgave Nicole. Holly says after being in the middle of the whole fake Abigail situation, she started to realize why people lie and why Nicole lied to her about how her dad died, because she was too young to understand. She guesses it became harder for them to tell her because she loved Eric like a father. Eric admits they should’ve told her sooner. Holly agrees but understands why they didn’t. Holly acknowledges that Nicole loves her and she loves her, which is what matters the most. Eric is glad that she came to that conclusion. Holly then adds that Eric is a really great person, so she forgives him too.

Julie questions Chad marrying the woman, which he confirms. Chad calls himself an idiot. Julie disagrees and guesses that she tried to convince him that if they were married again in Paris, she’d get her memory back. Chad remembers Cat telling him about her feelings for him coming back. Chad admits she didn’t convince him that hard because he was so desperately wanted to believe it that he fell for it. Julie argues that she’s not Abigail so it’s not legal. Chad points out that he still said “I do” and now he can’t help but feel like he was unfaithful to Abigail’s memory. Julie argues that the only dishonorable thing is that woman. Julie asks where she came from and who she is. Chad informs her that her real name is Cat Green, short for Catharina. Julie declares that as far as she’s concerned, Cat can go to Hell.

Cat complains to Mark that after everything they did to deceive Chad and his entire family, they just threw away their entire lives for nothing. Mark adds that he even threw away his one phone call, but at least he didn’t kill Chad in cold blood. Cat says thank God for that.

Marlena tells Steve that she worked with Mark and he seemed like such a good guy, so she’s surprised by this. Steve adds that Kayla was too as she said he was one of the best doctors on staff. Marlena asks if he knows any more about the connection between Mark, Cat, and Clyde. Steve responds that he does and that there’s a silver lining to all of this that affects John directly.

Tate and Sophia eat together in the town square. They joke about Tate not being a fan of escargot. Sophia tells Tate about her and Holly being close friends in first grade and how she never thought they’d lose their friendship over a guy. Sophia guesses it was really because Holly lied to her, betrayed her, and slapped her. Sophia adds that one way she wishes she was more like Holly is that Holly doesn’t wish or pray for things, she just comes right out and asks for it. Tate asks if she’s trying to ask him something. Sophia says she’s just wondering because Tate said he wasn’t ready to move on from Holly, but now he’s come to ask her out two days in a row. Sophia asks if Tate has changed his mind about them.

Holly admits it was a bit easier to forgive Nicole than Eric since Nicole lied to her but isn’t the one who drove drunk and took the life of her father who she never got to know. Eric says he would do anything to take back that night. Holly says Maggie told her how he tortured himself over it and went to prison, but everyone eventually forgave him because it was a terrible accident and he never meant for it to happen. Holly brings up the night she overdosed and how she offered Tate drugs too, so it’s not her place to judge. Holly declares that Eric is a great father and that she, Nicole, and Jude are lucky to have him in their lives. Eric tells Holly how much that means to him as they hug. Eric is glad they had this conversation before he goes back to Paris tonight which surprises her. Eric then mentions Brady being cleared which Holly questions.

Cat acknowledges that Mark must have been so tormented after being told he had to kill Chad. Mark assures that the only reason he was doing it was because he knew if he didn’t, Clyde would send someone else to do it. Cat encourages him not to beat himself up since he would’ve never attempted it if not for the situation their mom is in. Mark still hates himself for going along with it. Cat brings up having feelings for Chad and that Mark knew she wasn’t just pretending to be in love with him.

Chad tells Julie about Mark being Cat’s brother and that he was at the hospital to make sure they got the DNA test results they needed. Chad adds that it’s not all he did. Julie questions what else he did. Chad says all that’s important is that it’s over. Julie tells Chad that she’s so sorry and sorry about her part in it too since she urged Chad to tell the kids that their mother was alive but thank God he didn’t do it. Chad points out that Cat was the one who persuaded him not to since she said she wanted to protect the kids. Julie argues that she had been saying that over and over for a long time and questions if he’s going to believe her this time.

Steve reminds Marlena how when John was abducted in Greece, he was found in the same apartment where they found the impostor Abigail. Steve then reveals to Marlena that the fake Abigail is Cat Green, who was named after her mother Catharina, Konstantin’s daughter that John supposedly killed when he was The Pawn. Steve says she obviously survived the shooting and may still be alive today. Marlena questions how that’s possible since Steve was there the night John shot Catharina. Steve says he thought she was dead and Konstantin obviously thought so too but he was unconscious, so what happened next was anyone’s guess. Steve doesn’t think Cat has any idea that he and John crossed paths with her mother in Greece. Marlena asks where she is now, feeling they have to find her and talk to her but Steve says that’s unfortunately not possible.

Cat calls it understandable that there’s a wonderful guy that loves his wife so much and she was pretending to be her. Cat says the love Chad has for Abigail is so beautiful. Cat talks about how Chad was so excited and full of joy, thinking that Abigail came back to him and didn’t die in such a horrible event. Cat calls Chad a good guy, dad, and husband but she broke his heart. Mark adds that he was going to take his life. Cat says it doesn’t matter how they feel about this now that the truth is out as Chad hates both of them and isn’t going to forgive them, certainly not her.

Chad assures Julie that he’s furious with Cat for what she did. Julie argues that Cat had no feelings for Chad or the children and was just pretending for the money. Chad says there’s more to it which she questions. Chad reveals that Cat said that Clyde Weston forced her to do it by holding her mother hostage and threatening to kill her if she didn’t go through with his plan. Julie laughs off that being what Cat told him. Chad admits that Cat said she felt real feelings for him.

Eric reveals to Holly that it was Xander’s mother who hit Sarah which shocks her. Eric apologizes as he thought she already knew. Holly talks about how she went after Brady so hard and how difficult it was for her. Holly says it wasn’t even about him but about how her dad died in a car accident and guesses she transferred those feelings to Brady. Holly talks about how she couldn’t let it go and went to look for evidence to give to EJ. Holly doesn’t think Tate will ever forgive her or even wants to. Holly remarks that Tate is with Sophia now as she made sure to be there for him ever since.

Tate tells Sophia that he hates that her friendship with Holly ended over him, so he wanted to make sure the same thing didn’t happen between he and Aaron which Sophia questions. Tate explains that he talked to Aaron about it and he said he knew Sophia wasn’t in to him, so he told him to go for it. Sophia mocks the idea of Aaron giving him his blessing and relinquishing his claim on her. Tate tries to say it’s not like that but Sophia asks if this is him going for it.

Eric asks if Holly ever thought she would forgive Nicole or him for what they did. Holly admits she didn’t. Eric points out that she did and so she knows Tate will forgive her at some point, but it just might take some time. Holly feels that she can’t just wait around and do nothing as she has to tell Tate how sorry she is for hurting him, especially before Sophia gets her claws in to him and it’s too late.

Tate guesses this is him going for it which seems to upset Sophia. Tate apologizes as he thought that’s what she wanted. Sophia asks if he’s sure he’s ready to move on from Holly. Tate says Holly is in Paris and he doesn’t even know if she’s coming home now that they have broken up. Sophia doubts it since she was determined to finish high school in Salem. Sophia adds that maybe now that they know Brady is innocent, Holly will feel guilty and apologize so they can get back together. Tate argues that if Holly wanted to get back together, he would’ve heard from her by now. Sophia then questions if Tate would take Holly back if she wanted to get back together. Tate admits he doesn’t know. Sophia says that’s what she thought and that doesn’t work for her as she’s not a placeholder to entertain him while Holly is gone. Sophia declares that she deserves better.

Cat complains about what a mess this is as they have no idea how long they will be in jail, if their mom is still alive, and what Aaron and Felicity are going to do without Mark. Mark wonders if they know he’s been arrested but he’s sure it’s hit the news by now. Cat adds that they will also hear about her and everything she did. Mark assures that she’s their sister and they love her so that won’t change. Cat says she misses them. Mark says they need them, so they will find a way to come out of this somehow, together.

Marlena goes over to Steve that Clyde said he would kill Catharina if Mark and Cat didn’t turn over the DiMera fortune. Steve confirms they can’t be sure that Catharina is still alive. Marlena questions how Clyde could even communicate from super max prison. Steve says he contacted Shane to tell him that this needs to end. Steve adds that they can’t protect Catharina at this point but he had Shane put extra security in place to prevent Clyde from contacting anyone to give the word to kill. Marlena questions how to keep Catharina safe if they don’t know where she is. Steve says they can’t but reminds her of the silver lining. Marlena is excited to tell John that he didn’t kill Catharina and he’s an innocent man.

Julie questions Chad about how Cat could have feelings for him when she hardly knows him. Julie asks about how Cat recited Abigail’s wedding vows to him. Chad explains that she found the vows in the attic and memorized them. Chad says it made him believe and it did something to her as he flashes back to Cat reciting the vows to him. Chad says then they got married, said real vows, and kissed. Julie questions if Chad is going to start feeling sorry for a con artist and let her suck him in again. Chad repeats that he’s furious with her for what she did to him and his family. Julie asks if Jack and Jennifer know. Chad confirms that JJ told them, so he wanted to tell Julie in person since she’s been with him through all of this and is his rock. Julie says he is her rock and talks about all they went through with the house fire and living in this house with the children. Julie cries that her heart is aching for him and he must be so tired. Julie offers to make him tea but Chad says he has something he has to do right away. Julie advises him to be careful as he then exits.

Tate apologizes to Sophia and swears he didn’t mean to upset her. Sophia complains that he thinks of her as a consolation prize. Tate insists that he doesn’t think of her that way. Tate brings up that he’s already hurt her before, so he’s trying really hard not to move too fast. Tate says so much went wrong with he and Holly from the start, so he doesn’t really think it could ever work out between them which is why he’s sure he wants to move on. Tate tells Sophia that he really liked spending time with her and would like to spend more time with her. Sophia assures that she’s okay with that, so Tate invites her over to his place to watch a movie. Sophia says she would love that as they hold hands.

Holly goes home to the Kiriakis Mansion and texts Tate that she’s back in Salem, asking if they can talk.

Marlena goes to the Brady Pub where Eric tells her that Holly forgave him and he’s grateful that Holly and Nicole worked things out. Marlena hopes that means Eric and Nicole will spend more time visiting Holly here which Eric promises to do. Marlena says she will miss him. Eric says he’s thankful they had this time together. Marlena adds that she’s really happy it worked out that he gets to be with his baby and the woman he loves. Eric prays that they will one day live closer. Marlena thinks they definitely will. Marlena says they’ll have lots of video chats and visit when they can. Marlena adds that John said he loves him and will miss him as well. Marlena mentions that she will fill him in later but John is still processing some major news. Marlena says it’s like they had a little miracle.

Cat is brought in to the interrogation room and asks the guard what she’s doing here and what’s going on. He informs her that someone wants to see her which she questions. Chad then arrives and reveals it’s him.

Hope: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait–lock the door. Lock the door.

Brooke: Carter, what are you doing? Oh, my god. Hope! You and carter?

Eric: Well, it’s all news to me.

Steffy: It’s so strange–he never mentioned anything to you?

Eric: No. No.

Steffy: Dad, what about you? You and carter are really good friends–he never brought this up?

Ridge: Nothing like this, no.

Steffy: This push for growth and corporate expansion? It’s just–it’s out of nowhere.

Eric: Well, it’s kind of his job description, isn’t it? I mean, we always want our coo to be looking for new opportunities, but this–this is off the chart.

Ridge: Yeah. Turning forrester into a global luxury conglomerate.

Eric: Wasn’t what I was expecting. Pretty interesting meeting, though.

[Chuckles] He was so fired up, and hope and zende bvery excited about it. But it’s never gonna happen.

Ridge: I like carter’s initiative, I like his commitment to the company.

Steffy: Yeah, we all do.

Eric: Yeah, absolutely, but what he’s proposing–

Steffy: It’s a lot.

Ridge: No, it’s not just a lot, it’s too much. It’s changing everything.

Steffy: Absolutely. It’s more than just reviving a line or shifting resources.

Eric: Taking forrester creations in a whole different direction.

Ridge: Right. It’s changing the way we see the company, our company.

Steffy: Yes, our company, the family company. We don’t have to answer to shareholders or investment firms.

Eric: Well, his plan would change all that.

Ridge: And why now? Why-why is this happening now? Why does he wanna take such a risk now? What’s carter thinking?

Brooke: You and carter? Honey!

Carter: I’m sorry.

Hope: But I’m-I’m not! Mom, it is not what you think.

Brooke: I know what I saw.

Hope: Okay, well, there’s more to it than what it seems.

Brooke: My daughter and the company coo fooling around in the office.

Carter: I think what hope means–

Hope: Mom, we aren’t just fooling around.

Brooke: Oh, wait. You two are involved? Okay. That makes sense. I mean, you were defending hope and her line and… she was backing you up in the meeting today.

Hope: I believe in carter and his idea for the company, mom.

Carter: And I believe in hope for the future.

Brooke: [Huffs] But steffy is not gonna look at it this way she finds out.

Hope: Because she can’t, mom. No one can know about this. I mean, not-not yet, and especially not ridge.

Eric: Well, carter has obviously given this whole thing a lot of thought. He says he’s been thinking about this for years.

Ridge: Mm-hmm. So why’d he keep it to himself? Why spring it on us now?

Steffy: Well, it didn’t come out of nowhere. I mean, every time we talk, he brings it up, but this goes way beyond just a pitch.

Ridge: Yeah, he’s never talked about transforming forrester into some kinda luxury company–we don’t know how to do that. It’s uncharted territory.

Eric: Fragrances and leather goods, jewelry, wines.

Ridge: And what does that make this company?

Eric: It turns the company into a brand name instead of a fashion house. I don’t wanna do this.

Ridge: But you have to look at the other side, right? If this were to work, it’d be a huge amount of money.

Eric: And also a huge and unbelievable risk.

Steffy: One carter feels is necessary.

Ridge: Carter’s not wrong. He said that we have reached the apex of the fashion industry, and he’s right. So maybe it’s time for something else, to move into…a new era.

Eric: Yeah, or drive us into bankruptcy–could be the end of forrester creations as we know it.

Ridge: Yes, it could be. It could also be the start of something amazing. This could make us the biggest luxury company in the world.

Eric: Yeah, having taken on huge debt and a bunch of private investors.

Steffy: Giving up some of our control.

Ridge: Right. And this is where I don’t agree with carter, because he’s looking at this as an executive. We’re creative– we’re creative, right? What if somebody were to tell you what to do or not to do, even if you’re sitting on a big bag of money? What would you do? It’s a great pitch, and you expect that. It’s-it’s carter… he knows what he’s doing. But why now? Why do it right now? O take chances.

Steffy: Mm-hmm.

Steffy: I’m not saying carter’s plan isn’t though out. I-I just don’t know if it’s right for us.

Ridge: Or the right time for us.

Eric: Forrester’s a family business. It’s not a conglomerate or, you know…

Steffy: Yeah, but I think carter just wants a bigger future for us.

Eric: Is that what you want, steffy?

Steffy: Well, I’m all about innovation. I mean, there’s a reason why forrester is such a leader in this game.

Ridge: Right. We’re not afraid to take chances.

Steffy: Mm-hmm.

Eric: I took the biggest risk of my life just even starting this business.

Ridge: And carter knows that and he’s inspired by it.

Eric: He’s been a big part of our success, you know. As coo, he has overseen some of the biggest gains in our history.

Ridge: Absolutely. The rollout of the bedroom line was flawless.

Steffy: But this is the house of forrester. We don’t need investment bankers over our shoulders reacting to every single decision we make.

Ridge: That’s what I’m saying, we’re artists–you can’t put us in the balance sheets. It doesn’t work.

Eric: Exactly right. A forrester original is a work of art, a real original piece of beauty.

Ridge: Yes, it is.

Steffy: But that’s the thing. We’ve all seen the trends, and there’s been a lot of mergers in this industry–

Eric: We don’t follow trends, steffy–we set them.

Ridge: Whoa, there he is. Okay. I guess so.

Steffy: I really do love that.

Eric: Do you?

Steffy: Yeah, I do. I mean, we have dominated this industry. And, yes, carter wants to take some risks, but…why should we be doing that right now?

Ridge: Yeah, it’s too much.

Eric: You know, something’s going on here. The carter I know would be just as wary of all this as we are. I mean, that’s the surprise in all this. Why this…sudden desire for change?

Hope: Mom, I know this is a lot to process.

Brooke: Yeah, I thought that you and carter were friends.

Carter: We are. [Small laugh]

Brooke: Okay. Well, I didn’t expect to come in here and see you like that. I mean, what about my sister? Katie. Hope’s aunt.

Carter: We’ve been over for a while now.

Brooke: But you’re close and you still talk. Does she know about this?

Hope: No! No one, does, mom, and we don’t want anyone to know.

Brooke: Why, because it’s a fling? It’s a rebound?

Hope: No.

Brooke: Well, then, what is it? I need to know how serious this is.

Hope: I mean, we don’t even really know yet ourselves.

Carter: No. We know we care about each other, and there’s an obvious attraction.

Hope: [Giggles] Yes, a mutual attraction. And we are just giving ourselves some time to see how it goes.

Carter: Yeah.

Hope: Yeah.

Carter: See what develops, given our past.

Hope: Yeah, so there’s nothing to be concerned about, mom. We just are really enjoying seeing each other.

Brooke: In secret.

Hope: For now.

Carter: And you understand why, right? The situation at the office, what’s going on with hope’s line, the company.

Hope: So please, mom, I mean, we really don’t want anyone to know just yet. So can you promise me… please promise me that you won’t say anything. Socks, underwear and

Ridge: Well, carter’s never steered us wrong before.

Eric: No. He’s a valued member of our company.

Steffy: Normally, I rely on his advice. We work so well together. But lately, things just feel as though it’s so out of sync.

Eric: He has his own vision for the company, doesn’t he? Wants to stroke the profits. The company’s never been just about pursuing profits, actually. We’ve, uh, sustained this company for peace of mind. I don’t wanna close my eyes at night and wonder about stock prices and balloon payments.

Ridge: Same.

Eric: I want this company to be here for my great-grandchildren. And I’m afraid it won’t be if we take on all this debt, you know? Our company’s defined by our pursuit of beauty and our motivation is, uh, that divine spark that hits when pen touches paper.

Ridge: [Laughs] Yes. And that is a legacy to be proud of, dad.

Eric: Yes, it is. We have to.

Steffy: I do have another concern. Carter’s had a lot to say about the logans, like he doesn’t like my position on hope and her line. You heard him. He thinks that I have a personal beef and I allow it to interfere with my business decisions.

Eric: I think you’ve been very patient with hope for the future.

Steffy: Thank you. I really appreciate that. But carter feels as though I’m- I’m holding hope for the future to an unfair standard.

Ridge: Well, he has been defending her quite a bit.

Steffy: Yes, he has. He said it again when he tried to pitch the jewelry line.

Ridge: And that was surprising.

Eric: I love ivy. I would love to have her back at the company. It’d be great.

Steffy: Yeah, it would be great, but…carter should have told us first. He should have consulted with us first before having this meeting with ivy.

Ridge: Maybe. I didn’t offer a contract. It’s just–it was an idea like this meeting was an idea.

Steffy: Yeah, but it’s the timing of all of it, it all happening at once. Look, I-I don’t know. It just makes me wonder. I-it makes me wonder if hope is getting into carter’s head somehow.

Hope: Don’t you want us to take our time with this?

Brooke: Of course I do.

Hope: Okay, so we’re not going to be able to do that if everyone chimes in with their opinion.

Carter: Or objections.

Brooke: I’m not objecting.

Hope: No, I-I know that, mom. I’m just saying… we hope no one else will object either.

Carter: Office romances invite gossip, and I don’t want that for hope. She shouldn’t have to justify her feelings or defend them, especially if she’s not ready to share them.

Hope: Well… I can share with you.

Brooke: And what about you, carter?

Hope: Mom.

Carter: It’s okay. Your daughter’s had an impact on me. She’s the one who encouraged me to share my vision for forrester, how it can grow and adapt and go to the next level. And to be honest, I would have never shared it if not for her. She encouraged me to pursue my goals the same way she does with tenacity and integrity. She inspires me. Brings out the best in me.

Hope: Well, you bring out the best in me too, carter. I mean, he believes in me. He believes in my line. I mean, you saw the way he defended hope for the future in there, mom, and the way he asked steffy to put aside her agenda and do what’s best for the company.

Brooke: Well, that’s all wonderful, but it’s business.

Hope: No. It’s also about respect and integrity.

Carter: We understand and support each other.

Hope: And we share the same desires. We want what is best for each other, and we also want this silly war between the forresters and the logans to end here at work for good. And I think you know, mom, that’s not going to happen the way things are.

Carter: No. We want things to change at forrester and in our personal lives.

Hope: We just, you know, doesn’t hurt anyone if we have a little fun while doing it.

Carter: [Laughs] We’re-we’re just sorry you had to walk in on it.

Hope: Yeah. Sorry.

Brooke: Well…

Carter: Are we busted?

Brooke: No. I’m not here to bust anybody. I mean, you’re both consenting adults, right?

[Sighs] But I do have my concerns… and you’re gonna hear them. Finn really crosse

Ridge: Listen, you have every reason to be guarded where hope is concerned.

Eric: Yeah, her behavior with finn really crossed the line.

Steffy: Well, she kissed my husband. I don’t trust her.

Ridge: Okay. But she’s not pursuing him.

Steffy: Oh, she better not. But I don’t trust her across the board. I don’t trust her near my husband, I don’t trust her here at forrester, and… I’m starting to think that she might be manipulating carter.

Eric: What do you mean?

Steffy: Well, they’re friends. And if they’re friends, then that means carter’s on her side. A close ally.

Ridge: His loyalty is to the company.

Steffy: I know that, and, hey, maybe I’m wrong about hope. But it wasn’t that long ago when carter agreed with me. He saw the numbers. He thought that we should cut the line and now, out of nowhere, he’s defending it? He wants to save hope for the future? He’s all about growth and focu–

Ridge: Okay, you know what? It really doesn’t matter. You gave her enough time to turn things around.

Eric: But there is a limit.

Ridge: There is a limit, and at the end of the day, this is business. If she doesn’t come up with the numbers, we gotta make a change. It doesn’t matter what carter says.

Eric: Exactly. This is our company. We know what’s best for forrester.

Brooke: Carter, I need you to be completely honest with me.

Carter: I have been. [Laughs] Hope’s very important to me.

Brooke: So you’re no longer involved with katie?

Carter: We’re still friends.

Brooke: That’s it?

Carter: Maybe it’s all it ever was. We wanted it to be more. We tried, but…

Brooke: Okay. What about the fact that you are ridge’s best friend and you’re a top-level executive here at forrester?

Hope: What are you implying, that we shouldn’t be involved because we work together?

Carter: I’m not hope’s boss.

Hope: No. Steffy and ridge control my line, sadly, not carter.

Brooke: And I’m very grateful that you’ve been there for my daughter to support her and her line.

Carter: Well, I appreciate what your daughter brings to this company and into my life.

Brooke: Well, I am relieved to know that she has somebody in her corner. For a long time here at forrester creations, hope, katie, and I feel undervalued.

Hope: Yes. But we shouldn’t be–we bring a lot to the table.

Brooke: Yes, but it’s all the tension between the logans and the forresters.

Hope: Yeah, it’s a tradition which I believe steffy wants to continue.

Carter: Certainly can’t get past it.

Brooke: Yeah. And I don’t want that to impact you. And hope tells me she doesn’t wanna get in between you and steffy.

Carter: Thank you.

Hope: Yeah, we just… we want to take our time with this and see, you know, how it develops, how it goes.

Carter: Yeah, we do.

Brooke: Okay. Well, that’s definitely a healthier way to do it.

[Both laugh]

Hope: Uh, just so you know, he-he does know about that whole mess with finn and how lost I was.

Carter: I understand what it’s like to be drawn to the wrong person.

Hope: Yeah, so we won’t make that mistake again, will we?

Carter: [Laughs] No.

Brooke: Okay. Well, that’s good to hear. But this is still very new, and I don’t want there to be any broken hearts or hurt feelings.

Hope: Thank you, mom.

Carter: For your support and for keeping this to yourself.

Steffy: Carter, I was won– oh, uh, what’s this?

Hope: Uh, what?

Steffy: Oh, am I interrupting something?

Hope: No. Why?

Steffy: Just the three of you huddled up–is there a reason for it?

Carter: We were, um, discussing work.

Steffy: Oh, okay, well, if it’s about work, then you can tell me what’s going on.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Eric hugs Brady at home and calls him a free man, thankful he’s back at home. Brady credits Eric as he thought the whole time that he put Sarah in the wheelchair. Brady can’t believe he trusted Fiona when he didn’t even know her and she turned out to be a homicidal maniac. Eric thanks God that it’s over and remarks that the right person is behind bars..

Sarah runs in to Fiona in the town square and questions what she is doing out of jail. Fiona reveals the district attorney dropped the charges and declares that she is now a free woman as she has a drink, shocking Sarah.

At the Kiriakis Mansion, Xander tells Justin not to try and talk him out of this now. Justin reveals that someone has filed an injunction, prohibiting the transfer of Xander’s Titan stock to Kristen. Kristen asks Xander what the hell is going on. Xander asks Justin who filed the injunction, arguing that it would have to a family member and it can’t be Alex since he’s not Victor’s son. Philip Kiriakis then enters and declares that he is! Xander is shocked as Philip declares that he’s back and he’s here to stop him from throwing away their father’s legacy.

Somebody shows up at the door of Rafe’s house. Gabi thinks it’s Stefan but opens the door, surprised to see her cousin Javi. Gabi can’t believe it and they embrace as Javi declares he’s queer and he’s here, so she better get used to it.

Stefan talks to the portrait of Stefano about how Stefano never gave up on anything or anyone he ever wanted. Stefan likes to think he has that fighting spirit in him and declares that for that reason, he is not giving up on his marriage to Gabi and he’s going to fight for the woman he loves. Someone in a mask wearing all black then appears from behind and chokes Stefan out. The man unmasks, revealing Ivan, who is joined in the room by Stefan’s mother Vivian Alamain! Vivian praises Ivan for his work. Ivan comments on being her loyal servant. Vivian says she’s just glad they are in cahoots again and orders Ivan to make sure her son is still breathing which he confirms. Vivian talks about feeling guilty to resort to these tactics. Ivan reminds her that she said it was all for Stefan’s own good.

Gabi questions why Javi didn’t tell her that he was coming. Javi didn’t want to spoil the surprise and loves his grand entrances. Gabi mentions just hearing about his mother passing and says she’s sorry. Javi asks how she heard. Gabi explains that their uncle Gabriel sent a letter along with Hilda’s engagement ring that she left for Rafe. Javi laughs and complains that Rafe was the son that his mother always wanted instead of the one she got.

Sarah doesn’t understand why EJ would let Fiona go. Fiona responds that her attorney convinced EJ to change his mind, so she won’t face any charges at all. Sarah argues that she hit her with a car and left her for dead which was before she threatened to push her down a flight of stairs. Sarah questions how this is possible. Fiona responds that it’s all thanks to her.

Xander tells Philip that he can’t do this to him. Philip talks about the last time he was here, thinking Alex was his new half brother and he wasn’t thrilled with Alex as CEO but remarks that he’s Steve Jobs compared to Xander, who is already packing it in to hand over to Stefano’s degenerate daughter. Philip says once he caught wind of this idiotic deal, he knew he had to do whatever he could to block it because he’s Victor’s son too. Xander shouts that Victor didn’t leave Titan to Philip so he can’t do this. Xander argues that Philip has no legal right at all but Philip begs to differ.

Vivian tells Ivan that she knew Stefan divorcing Gabi was too good to be true. They acknowledge Stefan having a weakness for Gabi. Vivian tells Stefan that she makes sure he never falls prey to another cuckolding shrew again.

Gabi doesn’t think it was a slight against Javi, but he feels that way. Gabi suggests maybe Hilda didn’t leave the ring to him because he wasn’t going to give it to a woman. Javi asks what if he wanted to give it to a man or keep it himself. Javi then comments on Gabi’s ring and praises her marrying a super rich DiMera. Gabi responds that she doesn’t think she’ll be married to him much longer as they are getting a divorce.

Sarah questions Fiona saying she’s free because of her. Fiona goes over how first Sarah identified Brady and then claimed she was confused and saw her instead. Fiona asks what jury would believe her at this point. Sarah argues that Fiona knows that she lied about Brady to save Xander from killing him. Fiona remarks that it turned out very happily in her favor. Sarah argues that it can’t be that simple, pointing out that she’s not the only who remembers as Brady does too.

Brady tells Eric that he really does owe him since he flew from Paris to support him and then did so much more than that. Brady declares that Eric is the reason he’s free. Eric says it’s what brothers are for. Brady says he went above and beyond and he could never thank him enough. Brady adds that as grateful as he is that his name is cleared, his conscience is not so much which Eric questions. Brady explains that Fiona never would’ve been driving that night if he hadn’t been drunk out of his mind and fallen off the wagon, then Sarah probably wouldn’t be in the wheelchair. Eric reminds Brady that he wasn’t driving, so he just needs to stay sober as there’s nothing to gain by beating himself up. Brady thanks him and says there may actually be good news for Sarah. Brady reveals that with a little luck, there’s a chance that Sarah could be back on her feet again thanks to Kristen.

Kristen says it sounds like they all have a lot to talk about, so she will leave. Xander stops her and says this deal is happening whether Philip likes it or not. Kristen says it will take more than a few minutes and she doesn’t want any part of his family drama. Kristen decides he can keep the first vial and let her know when he’s ready to make the deal for the second one. Xander tries to stop her but Kristen exits the mansion. Xander tells Philip that this is ridiculous as he has no claim to Titan and Victor didn’t even put him in his will. Philip says that’s because his parents were protecting him from any legal trouble. Xander says that’s because he faked his own death and framed Brady for it. Philip reminds him that Brady let him off the hook so he’s free to return to the land of the living and assert his rights. Xander argues that the only right he has is to watch from the sidelines as he does what he wishes as that’s what Victor wanted. Philip then pulls out an envelope and declares it’s actually not. Philip reveals that the letter was mailed to the psychiatric facility where he was held but he had already came home for Victor’s funeral, so he only just recently got it. Xander asks what it says. Philip gives it to Justin to tell him. Justin reads that it’s signed by Victor and dated just before his plane crash. Justin announces that Victor was informing Philip that he made a new will and that he wishes he had the option to leave Titan to Philip, but he couldn’t because he’s supposed to be dead. Philip argues that he’s the rightful heir and it’s only by happenstance that he’s not in charge. Xander questions him not making this claim earlier. Philip repeats that he didn’t know about this until now. Xander asks Justin if he really has a case here. Justin says it’s too early to say but it is enough to contest the transfer of Titan to Kristen. Xander argues that Philip doesn’t understand what’s going on here, explaining that Kristen has a serum that could cure Sarah’s paralysis but she’ll only give it to them if she gets Titan. Xander says they are talking about his wife so he’s pleading with Philip as his brother to drop this lawsuit. Philip responds that he’s sorry but there’s not a chance in Hell.

Brady explains to Eric that Dr. Rolf developed a serum that could cure Sarah’s paralysis and that Kristen offered it to Xander and Sarah in exchange for his exoneration, but they ended up having nothing to do with it. Eric asks if she’s still giving it over. Brady notes that Kristen said she was in the process of making the deal with Xander. Eric calls it out of character for Kristen to be so generous. Brady responds that she’s been full of surprises lately as Kristen then shows up at the door.

Fiona tells Sarah that unfortunately for her, Brady wouldn’t have made a credible witness either since he’d have to admit to being black out drunk that night and it wouldn’t stand up in court. Sarah argues that Fiona confessed and admitted her guilt to her, Xander, and Brady. Fiona points out that she did not to the police and she denied confessing, so she declares that she is in the clear.

Gabi tells Javi about Stefan sleeping with Ava while she was in prison and then she slept with his brother to get back at him. Javi jokes that it’s like an episode of Real Housewives. Javi then apologizes for making jokes when she’s still hurting. Gabi admits that she is still hurting and she’s starting to have second doubts about ending her marriage because she guesses she’s still in love with Stefan even after he betrayed her. Javi understands that you can’t choose who you love as the heart wants what it wants, so if her heart wants Stefan, there’s no sense in fighting it. Gabi argues that she doesn’t even know if Stefan feel the same way since he filed for divorce and she’s expecting papers any day now. Javi encourages that Stefan could remember who he’s married to and forget to sign his name.

Vivian looks over the divorce papers and questions what Stefan was thinking as the papers are too generous. Vivian suggests making some adjustments but Ivan warns that will raise suspicions. Vivian decides that she will just forge Stefan’s signature and sign the divorce papers. Vivian then declares that her son is free at last. Ivan offers to deliver them but Vivian says she would like to do the honors. Ivan warns that if Vivian is caught, she’ll be thrown back in prison. Vivian assures that she will be discreet and tells Ivan to just watch over Stefan. Vivian states that some day, Stefan will be angry with her when he finds out what she’s done but he will realize it was the best thing for him. Ivan warns that they shouldn’t linger. Vivian tells an unconscious Stefan that she loves him and will see him soon as she and Ivan exit.

Javi hopes that Gabi’s marriage works out if that’s what she wants. Gabi assures that she does want to work it out and then talking to him as helped her see that. Javi jokes about being an expert with matters of the heart. Gabi says he helped her realize that she loves Stefan in spite of everything. Javi says they all have fault and make mistakes. Gabi says that’s enough about her screwed up life and wants to hear about Javi, since he still hasn’t told her why he came to Salem. Javi explains that with his mom gone, he decided he should do what he wants for a change and thought Salem would be a fresh start for him. Gabi asks if that means he’s moving here. Javi confirms that’s the plan as they hug. Javi adds that everything he owns is in his car. Gabi declares that he has to stay with her and Rafe. Javi hoped so but asks if they have room for him and if it’s cool with Rafe. Gabi assures that he’s family and exclaims that Rafe is going to love the idea. Gabi declares that they are going to have so much fun. Javi mentions having to find a job but he’s not sure what yet. Gabi realizes she has the best idea and invites him to come work for her.

Kristen asks if she’s interrupting. Eric says it’s okay as he has to go home and pack since he’s heading back to Paris now that his brother is free and innocent, so he’s going home to Nicole and Jude. Brady thanks Eric for everything he did for him and says he will miss him. They hug and talk about keeping in touch as Eric then exits. Kristen sits down and tells Brady they are alone at last.

Sarah doesn’t understand and questions what happened to the Fiona that was so desperate to make amends with Xander, who would play with Victoria for hours and said she loved her like a daughter. Sarah asks if that was all just a lie. Fiona responds that it was real and she’d do anything to get that back. Fiona says she’s terribly ashamed of herself but she’s somewhat self aware and knows her bravado is just a façade to cope. Fiona adds that her drinking does dull the pain of knowing that she has ruined everything as she always does. Sarah starts to leave but Fiona stops her and says she knows she has no right to ask, but she hoped Sarah would do her a favor.

Xander asks Philip if he didn’t hear him, arguing that Sarah needs this serum or she’ll never walk again. Philip says he feels for Sarah but there’s no guarantee the experimental serum will work and asks if he really thinks it’s worth giving away a multi-billion dollar company. Xander says he does and argues that they are talking about his wife and mother of his daughter. Xander tells Philip to have a heart and think about what this would mean to he and Sarah. Philip argues that Xander brought this on himself since the accident wouldn’t have happened if Xander wasn’t naive about his mother, who treated him like crap when he was a kid and abandoned him. Xander warns him to watch where he’s going with this. Philip remarks that he’s just saying that if Xander paid more attention, maybe he would’ve realized that his mother was still a hopeless drunk before she mowed down his wife. Xander calls him a son of a bitch and goes after him.

Brady asks Kristen what brings her by. Kristen tosses him a key and reveals that she got him a new car. Brady questions why. Kristen figured since she had his old car crushed. Brady argues that this car has a years long waiting list. Kristen says he’ll be seeing a lot more of Rachel and she deserves to be driven in style. Kristen adds that as a bonus feature, it’s self driving just in case. Brady assures she doesn’t have to worry about that since he’s sober and has been going to meetings. Kristen tells him that she’s so proud of him. Brady acknowledges that she’s been in a very generous mood lately and even Eric had to agree when he told him that she was willing to hand the drug over to Sarah. Kristen points out that she hasn’t given it over yet.

Xander grabs Philip but Justin breaks it up, telling Xander to go cool down. Xander warns Philip that he won’t get away with this as he exits. Justin questions Philip while Philip argues that Justin can’t seriously think this is a good idea to give away Titan to a DiMera. Justin argues that he has his own reservations but it isn’t easy for Xander as it’s not just business, he’s doing it for his wife. Philip responds that he’s doing this for his father. Philip argues that Justin knew Victor better than anyone so he must know he’d be devastated to know they were giving up the company. Philip declares that he’s going to honor Victor’s memory by making sure that doesn’t happen.

Gabi tells Javi that she’s desperate to replace her personal assistant at Gabi Chic, explaining that her last assistant Connie tried to kill her and Rafe and is now in the looney bin where she belongs. Gabi urges him to take the job, adding that he’ll get tons of free stuff. Javi calls it a deal and says he’s in. Javi says he will go get his stuff from the car and be right back. Javi then opens the door and finds an envelope at the door addressed to Gabi. Gabi begins to open it and sees that it’s her divorce papers.

Stefan wakes up tied up as Ivan is putting him in the trunk of a car. Stefan questions what the hell is going on and why he’s in here. Ivan responds that he’s sorry but he’s just following his mother’s orders. Stefan questions his mother having him kidnapped and asks where they are going. Ivan declares that they are going back to Alamania so that Stefan can begin a new life without Gabi Hernandez in it.

Brady questions why Kristen hasn’t given Sarah the drug and if she’s not going back on her word. Kristen says of course not and that she met with Xander to give him the first half of the serum. Brady asks why not give him the whole thing. Kristen claims that Dr. Rolf is putting the final touches on the other half and that she will hand it over as soon as everything is sorted out…

Xander holds the first part of the serum and says “damn you, Philip.” Sarah comes in. Xander says he’s so glad she’s home as he needs to talk to her about the meeting with Kristen. Sarah stops him and says there’s something he needs to know first. Sarah informs him that she just ran in to Fiona and reveals that she’s free, not facing any charges. Xander questions how the hell that’s even possible. Sarah responds that she would explain it all but Fiona wanted her to give him a letter which she hands over. Xander reads the letter where Fiona is announcing that she’s decided to leave Salem, knowing she made a terrible mess of things and doesn’t expect him to forgive her but she honestly did try to change to be a part of his life but she couldn’t pull it off in the end. Fiona writes that perhaps one day in the future, she’ll really change and become a person worthy of his forgiveness, but even if that never happens, she wants him to know that she loves him very much and always will and she’s so proud of the man he’s become.

Fiona finishes her drink in the town square and then walks away.

Sarah asks Xander if he’s okay. Xander responds that he’s fine but he hates that Fiona is getting away with what she did to Sarah. Xander declares that there’s nothing they can do about it now, but at least she’s out of their lives now. Sarah asks what happened with Kristen. Xander says that’s what he needs to talk to her about.

Philip meets Vivian at the Salem Inn. Vivian asks how it went. Philip responds that as expected, Xander’s head exploded since he was counting on getting Sarah that miracle drug. Vivian says he’ll just have to find another way to help Sarah because soon, Titan will belong to them.

Gabi opens the divorce papers and is shocked to see that Stefan seemingly actually signed them since Vivian forged his signature. Javi encourages that if Stefan knew Gabi was having second thoughts, he might have too. Gabi then finds that Stefan’s ring was included in the envelope and cries that he definitely made up his mind as Javi hugs her.

Stefan tells Ivan that he has to help him out of here so he can stay in town and fight for his marriage. Ivan says Vivian doesn’t think that’s a good idea. Stefan argues that Vivian can’t force him to get a divorce. Ivan responds that she already has. Stefan questions what that means. Ivan tells him to just relax and enjoy the ride. Stefan argues that he needs to get to Gabi and tell her that he loves her and he needs her in his life but Ivan shuts the trunk on him.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[soft dramatic music]

A free man. You are back home where you belong. I’m happy.

Thanks to you. Thanks to you. I can’t tell you what a relief it is. This whole time thinking that I was the one that put Sarah in that chair.

Hey, everyone who loves you knows the pain you were in.

To think that I trusted Fiona Cook. I mean, a wom– I don’t even know the woman. She turned out to be a homicidal maniac.

Yeah, well, just thank god it’s over and the right person is behind bars.

[relaxed music]

Fiona?

Hello, Sarah.

What are you doing out of jail?

The DA dropped the charges. Your mother-in-law is a free woman. Here’s to freedom.

I wouldn’t bother signing that, Xander.

Don’t try talking me out of this now, Justin.

Oh, that’s not why I’m here. I’m here to let you both know that someone has filed an injunction prohibiting the transfer of Xander’s Titan stock to you.

What the hell is going on, Xander?

Your guess is as good as mine. Who filed this injunction? It’d have to be a family member. Well, it can’t be Alex. We all know he’s not Victor’s son.

But I am. [tense music]

Philip. What the hell? You– you filed this injunction?

That’s right, big brother. I’m back. And I’m here to stop you from throwing away our father’s legacy.

[knocks]

Stefan?

Hola, prima. What’s shaking?

Oh, my God.

[laughs]

Javi! Oh, my God, I can’t believe it. It’s been so long. It’s really you?

Damn right it is, chica. Cousin Javi is here. He’s queer, and Salem better get used to it. [laughs] [tender music] [soft dramatic music]

You know, from what I hear, you never gave up on anything or anyone you ever wanted. I am your son, after all. I’d like to think I have that fighting spirit in me. And for that reason, I am not giving up on my marriage to Gabi. No, no.

I’m gonna fight for the woman that I love.

[suspenseful music] [grunts] Ah.

Excellent work, Ivan.

I am glad to have your approval, Madame.

This– I’ve been thinking, enough with the “Madame.” We’ve known each other for years. Just call me Vivian. [soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Madame, with all due respect, I am your loyal servant. It would be quite inappropriate for me to call you by your first name.

Fine, fine. Have it your own way. But I’m just glad we’re in cahoots again.

Yeah.

Now, do me a favor and make sure my son is still breathing. [soft dramatic music]

He lives, Madame.

[sighs] What a relief. I’ve just had these pangs of guilt resorting to these draconian tactics.

But as you said before we embarked on this mission, it was all for his own good.

You’re right. It’s all for his own good. Yes, it is. I know.

[laughs]

Why didn’t you tell me you were coming, Javi?

And spoil the surprise? You know I love my grand entrances.

Yeah, I do know that. And, hey, we just found out about Tía Hilda. I’m so sorry.

Thanks. We’re all grateful that Mami didn’t suffer at the end. How’d you find out?

Tío Gabriel sent Rafe a letter along with your mami’s engagement ring.

Her ring? Why would he send that?

I guess she wanted him to have it.

[chuckles] Of course she did. Rafael was always her favorite, and he was the son she really wanted, not the one she got.

But I don’t understand. EJ was ready to throw the book at you. Why would he let you go?

My attorney convinced the DA to change his mind. So I’m not gonna face any charges at all.

You hit me with a car and left me for dead, and that was before you threatened to finish the job by pushing me down a flight of stairs. How is this possible?

Well, my darling, dearest daughter-in-law, it’s all thanks to you. [chuckles] [relaxed music]

Funny. Last time I was in this room, Alex was my new half-brother.

You can’t do this to me, Philip.

Now, I wasn’t exactly thrilled that Dad’s company was in the hands of that vainglorious jerk. No offense, Justin.

You don’t know what’s at stake here.

As it turns out, Alex is pretty much Steve Jobs compared to you. I mean, you’ve only been CEO for a few months and you’re already packing it in, handing the whole thing over to Stefano’s degenerate daughter.

Damn you, Philip.

Well, once I caught wind of this idiotic deal, I was impelled to do all I could to block it since I’m Victor’s son too!

But he didn’t leave Titan to you, did he? So you can’t do this. You have no legal right. He has no right at all.

Oh, I beg to differ. [dramatic music]

You know, when I first heard about Stefan’s impending divorce from that wretched woman, I knew it was too good to be true.

As you pointed out to me, Madame, your son has a weakness for Gabriella Hernandez.

Indeed he does, a serious and debilitating weakness. But don’t you worry, my darling. Mother’s here to make sure you don’t fall prey to another cuckolding shrew ever again. [ominous music] [somber music]

I don’t think it was a slight against you, Javi.

It kind of feels that way.

Look, I’m sure your mami only gave the ring to Rafe because she knew you weren’t gonna marry a woman.

Yeah, but what if I wanted to give it to a man? Better yet, what if I wanted to keep it for myself? What do you think? – Fabuloso.

I know, right? However, it pales in comparison to that rock on your finger. Girl, let me get a closer look at this bling. [chuckles] Wow, Gabriella. You scored up, huh, marrying a super wealthy DiMera?

I don’t think I’ll be married to him much longer.

What?

We’re getting a divorce.

[relaxed music]

You’re free because of me? What are you talking about?

[scoffs] Oh, come now, Sarah. Surely you can figure it out. I mean, first you didn’t see Brady driving the car, then you did. Then you claimed you were confused. Oh, no, wait. Then you saw me driving instead. [scoffs] At this point, what jury is going to believe you?

You know that I lied about Brady to save your son from killing him.

A noble gesture, which very happily turned out in my favor.

[exhales sharply] No. No, it– it can’t be that simple. I’m not the only one that remembers seeing you driving that night. Brady does too.

I really do owe you. I mean, not only did you fly from Paris to support me, but you– come on.

[chuckles]

You did so much more than that. You’re the reason I’m free.

Eh, you’re my brother. Kind of have to be there for one another.

Yeah, yeah, but you went above and beyond. You really did. And I can never thank you enough. It’s just that–

What?

As grateful as I am that my name is cleared, my conscience, not so much, man.

Meaning?

Meaning Fiona never would have been driving that car that night if I hadn’t been drunk out of my mind. That’s what I mean. If I hadn’t fallen off the wagon, Sarah would probably not be in that chair.

Brady, remember, you weren’t driving. [somber music] Now you just need to resolve to stay sober. Nothing to be gained by beating yourself up.

True. Thanks for that. There actually may be some good news regarding Sarah.

Yeah?

Yeah. With a little bit of luck, there’s a chance that Sarah could be back on her feet again, thanks to Kristen. [soft dramatic music]

So it sounds like you all have a lot to talk about, so I’m going to take my leave.

No, Kristen, don’t go. This deal is happening whether Philip likes it or not. We just need a couple minutes here.

OK, Xander, sweetheart. It is gonna take a lot longer than a couple minutes. And I really do not want to be privy to your family drama.

Kristen, please.

No. You can keep the first vial, and just let me know when you’re ready to make the trade for the second.

Kristen, wait! Philip, this is ridiculous. You have no claim to Titan. Father didn’t even put you in his will.

Only because my parents are trying to protect me from any, you know, legal trouble.

Right, because you faked your death to frame Brady. The end result is the same.

Not quite. Since, as you may recall, Brady let me off the hook last year, enabling my return to the land of the living, and as such, I am prepared to assert my rights.

Any right you have is to watch from the sidelines while I do what I wish. That’s what Victor wanted. [dramatic orchestral music]

Actually, it’s not.

This letter was originally mailed to the psychiatric facility where I was getting treatment in Europe. But I’d already left to come home for Dad’s funeral, so it only recently made its way to me in New York.

What does it say?

Why don’t you tell him? [soft dramatic music]

Signed by Victor. It’s dated just before the plane crash.

And?

Well, let’s see here. Vic is informing Philip that he’s made a new will and that he wishes that he– quoting here– “that he had the option to leave Titan to Philip.” But he can’t because he’s supposed to be dead.

I’m the rightful heir. And it’s only by happenstance that I’m not in charge this very minute.

Then why the hell didn’t you make this claim earlier?

As I said, I didn’t know about this letter until now.

He doesn’t really have a case, does he, Justin?

Well, it’s hard to say, but this is certainly enough to contest the transfer of Titan to Kristen.

Look, Philip, you just don’t really understand what’s going on here. Kristen has a serum that can– it can cure Sarah’s paralysis, but she won’t give it to us unless she gets Titan, and– this is my wife we’re talking about. I’m appealing to you as your brother. Please, you’ve got to drop this lawsuit. [dramatic music]

Sorry, Xander. Not a chance in hell.

So Dr. Rolf developed a serum that could cure Sarah’s paralysis. Kristen has offered to hand it over to Xander and Sarah in exchange for exonerating me. However, as it turns out, they had nothing to do with my release anyway.

Right. So is Kristen willing to stand by her offer?

She says that she’s making arrangements to hand the drug over to Xander. What? What?

It just seems so out of character of her, you know, to be so generous.

Yeah, well– [knocking] Yeah, well, Kristen, she’s been full of surprises lately.

Like this one. [ominous music]

Well, unfortunately for you, Sarah, Brady wouldn’t have made a credible witness either since he would have to admit that he was blackout drunk that night, anything that he thought he saw or heard just wouldn’t stand up in court, obviously.

OK, fine, then forget what Brady and I remembered. You confessed, Fiona. You admitted your guilt to me, to Xander, to Brady.

Aha, but not to the Salem PD. And since I didn’t tell the police that I was responsible for the accident and I denied confessing it to anyone else, I’m sure you can deduce that I am in the clear. [relaxed music]

Oh, my God.

So Stefan slept with that skank while you were in prison.

Yep.

And then you slept with his brother to get back at him.

[chuckles] Well, you know me. I had to even the score.

Yeah, I get that. [laughs] I don’t know, man. This is like an episode of “The Real Housewives.” [laughs] [somber music] Oh, I’m sorry. You’re still hurting, and I shouldn’t make jokes.

No, you shouldn’t. I am still hurting. And not only that–

Not only that, what?

I’m starting to have second thoughts about ending my marriage.

So what? You’re still in love with this guy?

Yeah, I guess I am, even after he betrayed me. Is that pathetic?

No, of course not. You can’t choose who you love. You know that. If you could, I would have had a much easier time of it growing up in Texas. As Mami always told me… [speaks Spanish]

Mm. The heart wants what it wants.

Right? And if your heart wants Stefan, there’s no sense in fighting that.

I don’t even know if he feels the same way. He could be completely done with me. He hired his own divorce lawyer, and I’m expecting papers any day now.

OK. Maybe when he, you know, sees the dotted line waiting for his signature, he’ll remember the beautiful, sexy, amazing woman that he’s been married to. And then he’ll forget how to sign his name. [laughs]

Yeah, maybe he will.

[groans] What was Stefan thinking? These divorce terms are much too generous.

Especially since the woman cheated on him with his own brother.

Well, maybe I can make a few adjustments.

Oh, better not. That might raise suspicions.

[groans] You’re right again, as usual. I’ll just sign the damn thing.

Uh, will there be no issue, you copying your son’s handwriting?

Forgery happens to be one of my great talents.

Oh. To write.

Thank you. Here we go, “Stefan O. DiMera.” Our son is free at last. [dramatic music] Cahoots.

[ominous music]

Shall I deliver it, Madame?

Oh, no, Ivan. Thank you. I’d like to do the honors.

Well, if you’re caught, Madame, you’re gonna get thrown right back in the prison.

Don’t worry. I’ll be very discreet. Now, you just take care of my son. [soft dramatic music]

Stefan’s wedding ring.

Oh. He won’t be needing this anymore, will he?

Some day, you’re gonna be very angry with me when you find out what I’ve done, and then you’ll realize it was the best thing I could do for you.

Madame, we should not linger.

Oh. I love you, my son. See you soon.

I hope your marriage works out, querida, if that’s what you really want.

It is. I do. I do want to work it out. And talking to you has helped me to see that.

Well, you know, I am an expert in matters of the heart, right? [laughter]

I wouldn’t go that far. But you did help me realize that I love Stefan, in spite of all.

When you love someone, it’s got to be in spite of all because we all have faults and we all make mistakes.

So true. But enough about my screwed-up life. I want to hear about you. You still haven’t told me why you came to Salem.

Well, in a nutshell, now that Mami’s gone, I figured I should do what I want for once. Follow my dreams instead of having them stepped on because you know how needy and complicated that woman is. I mean, God rest her soul. So I thought Salem would be a fresh start for me.

Does that mean you’re moving here?

That’s the plan. [laughs]

[laughs] Oh, my God, yes!

And it’s not too complicated since everything I own is in the back of that beat-up, old car in your driveway fresh from Corpus Christi.

In that case, you have to stay with me and Rafe.

I was hoping that you’d say that. [laughs] But do you have room for me? You think it’d be cool con tu hermano?

Ah, sí You’re family. We have plenty of room. And Rafe is gonna love the idea!

[laughs] Even if I’m still wearing his ring?

As long as you’re only borrowing it, I’m sure he’ll be cool.

[laughs]

We’re gonna have so much fun. We get to hang out all the time.

Well, not all the time. I still have to find a job and I’m not sure doing what yet.

Oh, my God. I have the best idea. Come work for me.

I’m sorry. Am I interrupting?

It’s OK. I need to get home and pack.

Oh, that’s right. You’re heading back to Paris.

I am now that my brother is free.

Thanks to you.

No, thanks to you being innocent. I need to get home to Nicole and Jude.

I know. I know. It’s been good having you around, and I’m so grateful for what you did for me.

No, I’m just happy it all worked out.

Yeah, again, thanks to you. I’m gonna miss you.

I’m gonna miss you too. But, hey, we’ll be in touch.

Miss you too.

Video chats.

Yeah, tons of them, absolutely. Yeah.

Kristen.

Eric. [sighs] Alone at last. [tense music]

I don’t understand. What happened to the woman that was so desperate to make amends with Xander, who would play with Victoria for hours and said that she loved me like a daughter? Was that all just a lie? [relaxed music]

No, Sarah. It was real.

I’d do anything to get that back.

I’m so terribly ashamed of myself, but I’m also somewhat self-aware. So I know that my bravado is just a façade. It’s just a way to cope. And my drinking, well, it does dull the pain of knowing that I have ruined everything, as I always do.

Sarah, wait.

I know I have no right to ask you this, but I was hoping you’d do me a favor.

Did you not hear what I just said? Sarah needs this serum. She’ll never walk again.

Look, I feel for Sarah. I really do. But for one thing, there’s no guarantee that experimental serum is gonna work. And even if it’s legit, do you really think it’s worth giving up a multibillion-dollar company?

Yes! That’s absolutely what I think. Put yourself in my shoes, Philip. This is my wife we’re talking about, the love of my life, the mother of my daughter. Have a heart. Think about what this would mean to me, mean to Sarah.

Look, the way I see it, you kind of brought this on yourself.

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

Well, let’s face it. The accident which paralyzed Sarah, it wouldn’t have happened if you hadn’t been naive about a woman who apparently treated you like crap when you were a kid and then abandoned you.

Watch where you’re going with this one.

I’m just saying. If you’d been paying more attention, maybe you would have realized that your mother was still a hopeless drunk before she mowed down your wife.

You son of a bitch.

So what brings you by? [soft dramatic music]

This. I got you a new car.

What? Why?

Well, I figured I was the one who had your old car crushed into a tiny, little cube, so…

Ah. Whoa, this car has a waiting list. I mean, I think it’s years long.

Well, you are going to be seeing a lot more of Rachel, and our daughter deserves to be driven in style, yes? Oh! It has an added bonus feature. It’s self-driving, just in case.

Kristen. You don’t have to worry about that because I’m sober and I’ve been going to meetings, OK?

Brady, I am so proud of you.

You’ve actually been in a very generous mood lately. Even Eric had to agree when I told him that you were willing to hand that drug over to Sarah.

Oh. Well, I mean, I haven’t handed it over yet.

Xander, come on! Let go. This isn’t helping.

Fine. [tense music]

Maybe you should just go and cool off, OK?

You’re not gonna get away with this, you little punk!

Whatever you say, brah!

Phil.

Phil, what? You can’t seriously think it’s a good idea for Xander to give away the company, to a DiMera no less?

Yes, I have my own reservations, but you can’t expect this to be easy for him. This isn’t just business. He’s doing it for his wife.

And I’m doing this for my father. You knew Victor just about better than anyone. So you must know that he’d be devastated to think we were giving up the company. So I’m gonna honor his memory by making sure that never happens.

You want me to work at Gabi Chic?

Yes. Javi, it’d be perfect. I just lost my personal assistant, and I desperately need to replace her.

What happened to the last one? You fire her?

Not exactly.

Oh, so she quit.

No.

All right, what’s the deal? Am I walking into a “Devil Wears Prada” type sitch?

[chuckles] No, it’s not like that. It’s just that Connie, my assistant, tried to kill me and Rafe, and now she’s in the loony bin where she belongs.

OK.

Anyway, it doesn’t matter. You have to work for me. Take the job. We’ll have a blast.

Will I get free stuff?

Of course, tons of freebies.

All right, it’s a deal. I’m in. [laughs] All right, now I’m gonna go get my stuff from the car. I’ll be right back. It’s addressed to you.

Oh.

It’s my divorce papers.

What the hell’s going on here? Ivan. Is that you?

It’s good to see you again, Mr. DiMera.

What the hell is going on? Why am I in here?

I apologize for the discomfort, but I’m just following your mother’s orders.

My mother’s or– My mother’s having me kidnapped. Where are we going?

Back to the motherland.

To the mother– Alamainia. Why?

So you can start a new life without Gabi Hernandez in it.

No. No. [grunts]

So why haven’t you given Sarah the drug? Kristen, you’re not going back on your word, are you?

No, no, no, no, no, of course not. [chuckles] I met with Xander just a little while ago, and I already gave him the first half of the serum.

Why not give him the whole thing?

Well, Rolf is putting the final touches on the other half. I’ll hand it over as soon as everything is, well, sorted out. [soft dramatic music]

Damn you, Philip. Damn you.

Hey. So glad you’re home. I need to talk to you about the meeting with Kristen.

Um, OK. But first, I– there’s something that you need to know. I just ran into Fiona.

What?

Yeah. She’s free. She’s not facing any charges.

How the hell is that even possible?

Um, I will explain it all, but she wanted me to give you this.

– Dear Xander, I’ve decided to leave Salem. I know I’ve made a terrible mess of things, and I don’t expect you to forgive me, but please know that I honestly did try to change for you. I wanted so badly to be a part of your life, a part of my granddaughter’s life. I just couldn’t quite pull it off in the end, obviously. Perhaps one day in the not-too-distant future, I’ll really change and become a person who’s worthy of your forgiveness, God willing. But even if that never happens, I want you to know that I do love you very much, and I always will, and I’m so proud of the man you’ve become. Love, Mum. [somber music]

You OK?

I’m fine. I just hate that she’s getting away with what she did to you. Nothing we can do about it now. At least she’s out of our lives now.

Mm-hmm.

So what happened with Kristen?

That’s what I need to talk to you about. [tense music]

How did it go?

As expected, Xander’s head exploded. He was counting on using Titan to get Sarah that miracle drug.

Ha, ha! Well, he’ll just have to find another way to help his invalid wife because soon Titan will belong to us.

He actually signed them.

Oh, Gabriella, I’m so sorry. Maybe you should call him. I mean, if he knew that you were having second thoughts, maybe he might admit to having them too.

No. He definitely made up his mind.

[grunts] You got to help me get out of here. I need to stay in town to fight for my marriage.

Madame thinks that’s a bad idea.

I don’t give a damn what she thinks. She can’t force me to get a divorce.

She already has.

The hell does that mean?

I think it’s best if you just relax and try to enjoy the ride.

No, no, no, no! Ivan, wait. Wait. You got to get me out of here. I need to get to Gabi and tell her that I love her, and I need her in my life. Ivan, no, no, no! I need to tell Gabi that I love her! You son of a bitch!

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Justin approached Xander to question him about turning Titan over to the DiMeras. Xander explained why he gave the company to Kristen. She wanted the company in exchange for a serum that would allow Sarah to walk again. Justin’s attitude changed, but he was worried. Xander reminded him that Victor gave him control of the company to do what he wanted with it. No one was going to change his mind about it. Sarah arrived and thought there was something that could be done. EJ presented Fiona with an offer. If she pled guilty to vehicular manslaughter, she would serve 10 years in prison. It’s the best deal he could give her. She declined his offer. He reminded her that she confessed and could spend her life in prison. Fiona denied confessing anything. Melinda arrived at the DiMera mansion with Stefan’s divorce papers. She assured him that everything he wanted was in the agreement. He would keep the mansion, the Bistro and his investments. Gabi would keep her company and receive a financial settlement. He accepted the arrangement. Melinda offered him a pen to sign the papers, but he hesitated. She encouraged him to sign the papers. Stefan thought she was trying to go after him now that he was getting divorced. Aggravated, she snatched the pen and said that he could do whatever he wanted. Rafe and Gabi talked about losing their aunt. They talked about their aunt being fond of Rafe. She left something for him in her will. He thought it was sad that she had a son, but she was closer to him. Gabi said that Rafe and their aunt believed in true love. She felt that she had true love with Stefan until their relationship ended.

Fiona told EJ that she didn’t remember confessing to anything. Melinda walked in the interrogation room and said her client was innocent. She demanded that he release Fiona. EJ informed Melinda that he had two witnesses without Fiona’s confession. Melinda told him that Sarah’s unreliable and Brady was an addict who didn’t remember who was driving the car. Putting him on notice, Melinda warned him that she planned to destroy him if he didn’t release Fiona. Fiona gave EJ a smug look. Sarah warned Xander that he was making a mistake giving Titan to Kristen. Xander couldn’t live with himself if he chose the company over her. She struggles with being paralyzed, but she could live a full life. Giving up his and Victoria’s futures to Kristen wasn’t an option. Xander countered by saying that Victoria’s birthright was her mother being happy and healthy. Victor wasn’t owed anything, but his wife deserved everything. While her wishes meant the world to him, Xander’s mind was made up. Kristen realized that Stefan’s mood was because of his divorce. He’s not sure he wanted a divorce since he’s still in love with Gabi. Kristen advised him to tear up the papers if he wasn’t sure he wanted the divorce. Gabi had a similar conversation with Rafe. She admitted to her brother that she was ready to divorce Stefan, but she wasn’t sure she wanted to anymore. Rafe advised her to think about it before going through with the divorce. Stefan and Gabi were thinking about each other. He realized he didn’t want the divorce anymore. EJ warned Melinda that she would pay. Melinda thought his threat was because he was a better lawyer. She wasn’t going to worry about his threats because he would have to explain to Paulina why he messed up another case. Sarah was shocked to see Fiona at the town square. Fiona informed her that she was a free woman. Stefan told Stefano’s portrait that he wasn’t giving up on his marriage. A masked man attacked him from behind. He put Stefan in a choke hold until he passed out. Kristen arrived at the Kiriakis mansion to give Xander the first dose of the serum. Sarah was going to need another dosage for it to work. Kristen would give him the other dosage when Xander’s shares of Titan were transferred to her. Xander was about to sign the papers when Justin came into the room. He said that someone filed an injunction stopping the transfer. Everyone wondered who did it when Philip walked in the room.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Kristen sits in the town square and calls Xander, who asks what she wants. Kristen reminds him that she holds Sarah’s fate in her hands and asks if he’s ready for their meeting. Xander says he’s ready as he’ll ever be. Kristen talks about how they both benefit from this deal while Xander complains about Kristen getting her hands on the Kiriakis empire.

EJ confronts Fiona in the interrogation room. Fiona asks if he’s enjoying toying with her. EJ informs her that he’s presenting her with the best deal she will ever get, so he suggests she take it if she doesn’t want to spend the rest of her life in prison.

Stefan has a drink in the living room of the Kiriakis Mansion as Melinda enters. Melinda informs Stefan that she has drawn up his divorce papers as requested, so once they are signed, sealed, and delivered, Gabi will be out of his life for good.

Gabi goes to Rafe’s home and brings him lunch but Rafe says he’s not hungry. Gabi asks if he’s okay as he looks like someone died. Rafe responds that someone did.

Kristen asks if Xander is having second thoughts, reminding him that securing Dr. Rolf’s serum to treat Sarah’s spinal cord injury is the only way she will ever have the chance to walk again. Xander assures that he’s well aware of the stakes. Kristen tells him that she will be by to sign the papers and seal the deal then as she hangs up. Justin then walks in to the living room and asks Xander if this is some kind of sick joke. Justin reveals that all family members were informed of what he’s planning to do and questions if he’s seriously planning on turning over Victor’s legacy to the DiMeras.

Melinda tells Stefan not to worry about Gabi leaving him with nothing as the agreement is as they discussed where Stefan will keep the DiMera Mansion, the Bistro, and his assets while Gabi will retain ownership of Gabi Chic and a generous financial settlement. Stefan remarks that it sounds pretty cut and dry. Melinda points out that he wanted a nice clean break. Melinda adds that after he signs, she will take them to Gabi to sign and then she will file with the court and their marriage will be over. Stefan goes to sign but hesitates, so Melinda asks if there’s a problem with the terms. Stefan says the terms are fine, so Melinda questions what he’s waiting for.

Rafe reveals to Gabi that their aunt Hilda passed away to cancer and shows her a letter from their uncle. Gabi says it sounds like she passed peacefully in her sleep and reads that they already had the funeral. Gabi says it’s too bad as she would’ve liked to have gone to Texas to pay her respects. Rafe mentions their brother Dario was in no position to go. Gabi questions when they lost touch with that part of the family as they used to be so close. Gabi says she still thinks about them all the time. Rafe says they clearly still think about them too and reveals a box that their aunt left for him in her will. Gabi encourages him to open it. Rafe opens it to find their aunt’s engagement ring inside. Gabi remembers admiring it when she was a little girl. Rafe reads the letter that came with it where she said she knows Rafe has not been lucky in love but she wanted him to find the right woman and give her this ring with her blessing. Gabi talks about Hilda and Rafe being kindred spirits, cut from the same cloth and notes that they both believed in true love. Gabi brings up thinking that she had found that in Stefan, but now it’s over between them forever.

Melinda tells Stefan to sign the damn papers but Stefan says he needs a minute to process it. Melinda argues that he should’ve processed before he had her draw up divorce papers. Stefan questions her rush and asks if she thinks she’ll finally get her shot once he’s divorced. Melinda remarks that Stefan is more full of himself than EJ. Stefan apologizes and says it was a joke. Melinda tells Stefan to take all the time he needs as she couldn’t care less if he signs or not. Melinda then storms out of the mansion and runs in to Kristen coming home. Melinda warns Kristen that Stefan is in a particularly foul mood. Kristen tells her that no one can rain on her parade today and asks if she drew up her documents. Melinda confirms that she did and says she doesn’t know how she pulled this off but Mr. Shin and the board are very excited. Kristen declares that once Xander signs Titan over to her, DiMera Enterprises will be unstoppable.

Justin complains to Xander that Victor would be turning over in his grave if his own son turns over his life’s work to the daughter of his biggest enemy. Xander says to let him roll then. Justin questions why he’s doing this. Xander admits that Kristen has a serum that will cure Sarah’s paralysis courtesy of Dr. Rolf which shocks Justin. Justin realizes it makes a lot more sense then. Xander wishes there was another way to help Sarah but they haven’t found it yet. Justin says he’s sympathetic to his problem. Xander doesn’t care about his counsel and declares it’s his decision to make not Justin’s, because Victor gave Titan to him to do with it what he chooses. Xander is choosing to trade Titan for the serum and there’s nothing anyone can do or say to change his mind. Sarah then comes in and says maybe there is something she can say.

EJ tells Fiona that the deal is the same as Brady’s, if she pleads guilty to attempted vehicular manslaughter, he will recommend she gets 10 years in prison. Fiona mocks that but EJ repeats that it’s the best deal she’s ever going to get and warns that she could be looking at twice that, so she’d be wise to sign and they can bring this matter to a close. Fiona hands it back to EJ without signing and says she regrets wasting his time, but she’s not signing a damn thing. EJ warns her that if he takes this to trial, she will likely die in a cell alone in prison. Fiona argues that he’s presuming she’s found guilty. EJ says he’s not presuming when she confessed to the crime, but Fiona claims not to know what he’s talking about as she never confessed to anything. Fiona refuses to admit to anything that EJ thinks he can charge her with. EJ doesn’t know what game she’s playing, but assures it will not work. Fiona responds that she’s certain it will work. EJ acknowledges that she did not formally confess to the police but she said to Xander and Sarah that she was behind the wheel of the car that mowed down Sarah and also came clean to Brady, who she framed for her crime. Fiona claims not to remember any of those conversations. EJ says he’s dealt with his fair share of remorseless and despicable people and she’s right up there with the worst of them. Melinda walks in and tells EJ to spare them his righteous indignation about moral superiority. EJ questions what she’s doing here. Melinda then reveals that she is representing Fiona which EJ questions. EJ asks if she doesn’t already have her hands full helping Kristen run DiMera in to the ground. Melinda responds that he will find out soon that Kristen is doing quite well running DiMera, but her contract allows her to take on cases on the side and calls EJ a misogynist for railroading Fiona. EJ questions Melinda as to how Fiona is being railroaded. Melinda argues that Fiona is being accused of a crime she didn’t commit and she’s innocent, so she demands her release immediately.

Justin decides he will leave Xander and Sarah to talk so he exits. Sarah tells Xander that Justin is right that he can’t do this as it would be a huge mistake to hand over Titan to Kristen DiMera. Xander asks Sarah to understand that he’s doing this for her but Sarah says she doesn’t. Sarah argues that Victor left Xander his company because he saw himself in him and if he was alive, it would kill him to see Xander hand it over to that viper. Xander argues that if it were Maggie, Victor would go through Hell and back to save her. Sarah argues that she’s not dying, so it’s not like they need the serum to save her life. Sarah says she had accepted the fact that she will never walk again and she will live with that. Xander knows how hard she’s tried to accept it, but he also sees what a struggle it is for her. Xander says he couldn’t live with himself if he knew there was something he could do to end her struggles. Sarah admits she’s struggled and she’s suffered, but she counts her blessings that the accident didn’t take her life. Sarah says she is lucky to have the love and support of Xander, Victoria, and Maggie. Sarah talks about getting stronger every day and how she can live a full life while disabled. Sarah insists that Xander does not have to do this and pleads with him to call Kristen to tell her that the deal is off and he’s changed his mind.

Kristen enters the living room of the DiMera Mansion and questions Stefan about his long face. Stefan claims he’s fine. Kristen argues that he’s in a terrible mood because of his impending divorce. Kristen asks if Gabi is taking him for all he’s worth. Stefan says she’s not so Kristen asks what the problem is. Stefan responds that the problem is, he’s not sure he wants a divorce.

Rafe asks Gabi where things stand between her and Stefan. Gabi informs Rafe that Stefan told her he wanted to file for divorce and hired Melinda Trask to draw up the papers. Rafe notes that Melinda is a shark. Gabi says so is her lawyer, but she’s not worried about that. Rafe states that it won’t be long then until her marriage is over. Gabi guesses that’s right. Rafe notices that she doesn’t seem too happy about that but he thought she wanted out. Gabi says she did, so Rafe asks if that’s changed. Rafe questions if Gabi is done with Stefan or if she wants him back. Gabi knows she’s the one who called the end of their marriage but she can’t help but wonder if she made the wrong decision. Rafe calls it understandable that she feels conflicted about ending her marriage as she went into it hoping it would be til death do them part as they were raised to believe marriage is a sacred bond. Gabi points out that Stefan was the one to break their vows and she was so hurt and angry when she found out that he slept with Ava while she was in prison that all she wanted to do was hurt him back when she slept with EJ. Gabi adds that she’s not telling Rafe anything he doesn’t already know. Rafe responds that he is getting the impression that she’s not sure if she wants to end her marriage to Stefan. Gabi guesses she’s not sure of that either. Gabi acknowledges that Stefan seemed so sad the last time they spoke, so she’s not sure this is what he really wants either.

Kristen questions if Stefan is seriously considering staying with Gabi after she slept with EJ. Stefan argues that she only did that to get back at him for sleeping with Ava while she was in prison which was a one time, stupid, drunken mistake. Kristen guesses that Stefan is still in love with Gabi. Stefan admits he never stopped loving her for one second. Kristen remarks that she knows all about not being able to move on from an ex. Kristen declares that if Stefan is not 100% sure that he and Gabi are done, he should tear up the divorce papers and get his wife back. Kristen then exits.

Sarah tells Xander that he can’t hand over his family business to Kristen. Xander argues that she doesn’t understand but Sarah says she knows more than anyone what it meant for him to finally be acknowledged by Victor. Sarah says that she’s the one who has to live in the wheelchair and asks if what she wants matters. Xander argues that it’s about Victoria too. Sarah questions the cost and says she won’t watch him turn over his birthright to Kristen. Xander argues that Victoria needs Sarah healthy and happy. Xander states that he owes Victor nothing while he owes Sarah everything. Xander talks about wanting Victor’s approval for years but then he met Sarah, who saw him for who he is and loved him freely while his own father couldn’t love him while he was alive. Xander feels that Titan doesn’t measure up to Sarah’s love and their life together. Xander tells Sarah that he’s sorry as her wishes do matter, but his mind is made up that when Kristen arrives, he is giving her Titan in exchange for the serum to help her walk again.

EJ reminds Melinda that Fiona ran over Sarah and left her to die, leaving her paralyzed. EJ declares there is no way in hell that he is allowing Fiona to walk out, mentioning that she confessed which she denies. EJ argues that he has two eye witnesses in Sarah and Brady, who both can identify Fiona as the driver of the car that struck Sarah that night. EJ adds that both are willing to testify in open court. Melinda argues that they know that won’t get him a conviction.

Gabi asks Rafe about his physical therapy appointment this afternoon. Rafe points out that she did not answer his question as to if she’s ready to end her marriage to Stefan. Gabi admits that she thought she was, but she’s not sure. Rafe advises Gabi to give herself time, get out of her head, and listen to her heart and then she will know what to do. Rafe then exits for physical therapy. Gabi looks at the engagement ring their aunt left for Rafe and thinks back to being together with Stefan.

Stefan sits in the living room and thinks back to being together with Gabi. Stefan then tosses the divorce papers aside and says to hell with the papers.

EJ assures Melinda that he has a strong case to make against Fiona, so they’ll just have to let it play out and let the jury decide. EJ adds that if she seriously thinks any of them won’t be sympathetic to Sarah when she testifies from her wheelchair, then she’s less of an attorney than he thought. Melinda argues that EJ seems to be forgetting that Sarah has also changed her story multiple times, making her a not so credible witness while Brady is an addict who has been accused of killing his uncle in a drunken rage and throwing him in to the river. EJ reminds her that Brady’s uncle Philip faked his own death and framed Brady, much like Fiona did. Melinda argues that Brady’s testimony in this case will bring up reasonable doubt and points out that he’s also changed his story. EJ argues that Brady will testify that he woke up in the passenger’s seat, next to Fiona who was behind the wheel and to the fact that she said she just hit someone. Melinda tells EJ that when the jury hears the testimony of his unreliable witnesses, they will acquit Fiona immediately. Melinda says if he wants to take it to trial, she will take great pleasure in tearing up their testimony and EJ’s tainted legal reputation. Melinda advises EJ to do himself a favor, save the city the expense and save himself the embarrassment by cutting Fiona loose now.

Sarah appreciates everything Xander said and knows his heart is in the right place and that he’s doing this for her, but she cannot believe he’s giving Kristen what she wants without a fight. Kristen then arrives and asks if somebody said her name. Sarah questions how she could do this, arguing that Kristen has no conscience. Kristen doesn’t understand why she’s so angry when it’s great for them and calls it a mutually beneficial business transaction. Sarah calls it trading her ability to walk for her husband and daughter’s birthright. Sarah remarks that Stefano must be so proud of her looking up from Hell. Kristen tells her that she’s welcome as Sarah then leaves the room. Kristen tells Xander that Sarah will thank her when she can walk and asks if they have a deal or not.

After Fiona is released, EJ warns Melinda that she will pay for this. Melinda calls herself a better lawyer than him and says she won’t worry about his threats because he will be too busy explaining to Paulina how he let another case slip through his fingers. Melinda then exits, leaving EJ in frustration.

Sarah runs in to Fiona in the town square and questions what she is doing out of jail. Fiona reveals the district attorney dropped the charges and declares that she is now a free woman, shocking Sarah.

Somebody shows up at the door of Rafe’s house. Gabi thinks it’s Stefan but opens the door, surprised by who she sees.

Kristen tells Xander not to get too excited, reminding him that there is a second vial that has to be combined with the first before Sarah can walk again. Xander asks when they get the second vial. Kristen says once his Titan shares are transferred to her and tells him to sign. Justin then walks in to stop him. Xander tells Justin not to try and talk him out of this now.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[soft dramatic music]

[phone ringing]

What do you want, Kristen?

Is that any way to talk to the person who has the fate of your dear, sweet Sarah in her hands? I am calling to see if you’re ready for our meeting this afternoon.

As ready as I’ll ever be.

Oh, come on, Xander. I mean, there’s no need to be pouty. I mean, we’re both benefiting from this deal greatly. I mean, you’re getting a miraculous revolutionary serum, which will enable your paralyzed wife to walk again. And I am–

And you’re getting your grubby, grasping DiMera claws on the Kiriakis empire.

Mm-hmm. [laughs]

[birds squawking] [phone ringing]

Ah, Ms. Cook, there you are. But then again, where else would you be? I brought you a coffee. Sorry it’s not an Irish coffee, which I’m sure you would prefer. But then again, alcohol is what got you into this mess in the first place.

Are you enjoying toying with me, D.A. DiMera?

No, not at all. In fact, I know Christmas is still a few months away, but I come bearing gifts.

What’s this?

This is the best deal you’re ever going to get. So unless you want to spend the rest of your natural life in prison, I suggest you take it. [tense music]

Ooh. We having a liquid lunch today?

This? No, this–this is an Italian herbal liqueur, one, from what I’ve heard, my old man grew quite fond of. Can I interest you in a pour?

Uh, it’s a bit early for me, thanks. As requested, I’ve drawn up your divorce papers. Once these are signed, sealed, and delivered, Gabi Hernandez will be out of your life for good. [soft dramatic music]

[door clicks open]

I brought you lunch.

I’m not hungry.

Rafe, the doctor says that you need to take your pain meds with food. Are you okay? You look like someone died.

Someone did. [dramatic music] [soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Surely you’re not having second thoughts, Xander. But if you are, perhaps I should remind you that securing Dr. Rolf’s serum to treat Sarah’s spinal cord injury is the only way that she will ever have the chance to walk again.

I’m well aware of the stakes here, Kristen.

Good. Well, then I will be by to sign the papers and seal the deal. Mm? [tense music] [phone beeps]

Is this some kind of sick joke?

So you’ve heard the news.

Of course I heard. All family members were informed of what you’re planning to do. Tell me, please, that this isn’t true. Tell me you’re not seriously planning to turn over Victor’s legacy to the DiMeras.

If you’re worried about Gabi leaving you nothing but the lint in your pockets, don’t be. The agreement is just as we discussed. You will keep the mansion, the Bistro, and any and all stocks and bonds and diversified investments, while your soon-to-be ex-wife will retain sole ownership of Gabi Chic and receive a generous financial settlement.

Sounds pretty cut and dry.

Well, that’s what you wanted, right? A nice, clean break? [soft dramatic music]

Yeah. That’s what I wanted.

After you sign these, I’ll get them to Gabi. And after I have her signature, I’ll follow up with the court. And then your marriage will be over.

Is there a problem with the terms?

The terms are fine.

So what are you waiting for?

[sighs]

Tía Hilda died? Ay, Dios mío. When?

Just last week. It’s all in Tío Gabriel’s letter. Her cancer came back, and she didn’t want to say anything to anyone.

Poor Tío. [somber music] Sounds like she passed away peacefully in her sleep.

Yeah.

And they already had the funeral.

In Corpus Christi. They kept it small, just immediate family.

It’s too bad. I would have liked to gone down to Texas to pay my respects to Papi’s brother– since he’s God knows where.

Yep. And Dario is in no position to go.

Mami told me she named me after Tío Gabriel because he has such a good heart.

Yeah.

Rafe, when did we lose touch with that part of the family? We used to be so close.

Yeah. I know.

I still think about them all the time– list them in my prayers every night.

Well, clearly, they still think about us too. Tía Hilda left me this in her will.

I’m not surprised. You were always her favorite.

Not really. It’s just–she liked me because I made her laugh.

Yeah, we all tried to make her laugh. You were the only one who could.

Yeah, well, it’s just because I’m funnier than you all are.

Oh, and more full of yourself than any of us.

Correct.

[laughs] What are you waiting for? Open it up and find out what Tía left you.

Hurry up. I want to see.

Okay, hold your horses, Miss Impatient.

Ooh, a ring box. Is that what I think it is? [soft dramatic music]

Tía Hilda’s engagement ring.

Oh, my.

I remember admiring this when I was a little girl. All the cousins wanted to wear it. [laughs] We used to beg her to let us try it on, but she said it wouldn’t leave her finger until the day she died.

Yeah. “QueridoRafael, I know that you have not “been lucky in love, sobrino. Those gringas do not appreciate you the way you deserve.”

[laughs]

She’s right about that. “I hope this ring will bring you “the kind of lasting affection that I shared “with your Tío Gabriel. “And when you find the right woman– “which I know you will do– “I want you to give her my ring with my eternal blessing. Con mucho cariño,Tía Hilda.”

That is so sweet. You were like the son Tía never had.

Yeah. Which is kind of sad because she does have a son.

Yeah, but you and Tía Hilda were kindred spirits. What is it that she used to say?

“Cortados por el mismo patrón.

Si.

Si.

Cut from the same cloth.

Yeah.

And, like you, Tía really believed in “amor verdadero.

True love.

Mm. Not that we all don’t believe in that and want that.

Yeah.

I thought I had finally found mi amor verdaderoin Stefan. But now– now it’s over between us forever.

Sign the damn papers, Stefan.

I need a minute. This is the end of a marriage we’re talking about here, not some timeshare in the Florida Keys. So please, if you’ll allow me a few seconds, I need to process.

You should have done your processing before you had me draw up divorce papers.

What’s going on here, Melinda, huh? You think as soon as this ink dries on that paper and my divorce from Gabi is final, you’re gonna finally get your shot?

[laughs] Wow. You know, I didn’t think it was possible, but you are even more full of yourself than your brother EJ.

Look, Melinda, I– I’m sorry. I’m sorry. It was a joke, and it was uncalled for.

You know what, it’s not funny. You know, take your time. Take all the time you need. Sign, don’t sign. I couldn’t care less. The billable hours are the same. [tense music]

I suggest you gird your loins before going in there.

Oh, why is that?

Because your brother, Stefan, is in a particularly foul mood.

Oh. Well, I appreciate the heads up. Nothing and no one is going to rain on my parade today. [chuckles] Did you draw up the documents for my meeting this afternoon?

I sure did. And I don’t know how you made this happen, but it is quite the coup. Shin and the Board are very excited.

Well, they should be because once Xander Kiriakis signs these papers, transferring control of Titan Industries to moi… [laughs] DiMera Enterprises will be unstoppable.

Uncle Vic must be rolling over in his grave– his own son, handing over his life’s work to Stefano DiMera’s demented daughter.

Let him roll then.

Xander, why are you doing this? What does Kristen have on you?

What Kristen has is a serum that will cure Sarah’s paralysis. She’ll walk again.

What? Seriously?

Courtesy of Dr. Wilhelm Rolf.

Oh. Well, this makes a lot more sense then.

I thought it might. God knows I wish– I wish there was another way to help Sarah, but we haven’t found it.

Look, I certainly am sympathetic to your problem. But as legal counsel–

I don’t care about your counsel right now, Justin. This isn’t your decision to make. It’s mine. Victor gave Titan to me to do with as I choose, and I choose to trade it for this serum. There’s nothing you or anyone else can say that will change my mind.

Maybe there is. Maybe there’s something that I can say. [soft dramatic music]

It’s the same exact deal I offered to Brady Black. You plead guilty to attempted vehicular manslaughter for causing the drunken hit-and-run that robbed your daughter-in-law of the use of her legs, and I’ll recommend to the judge that you serve ten years in prison.

Ten years? Is that all?

As I said, Ms. Cook, this is the best deal you’re ever going to get. You could be looking at twice that time, if not more. So you’d be wise to sign here and here so we can bring this matter to a close. [ominous music]

What do you think you’re doing?

I regret wasting your time and the resources of the good people of Salem, but I am not signing a damn thing.

You realize, if I take this to trial, you’ll likely die alone in a cell inside Statesville Prison?

You’re presuming I’ll be found guilty.

There’s no presumption involved. Your conviction is a certainty if you confessed to the crime.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. I never confessed to anything.

You’re saying that you did not confess to plowing into Sarah Kiriakis while driving under the influence?

That’s right. I never admitted to that, nor will I admit to anything else you think you can charge me with. [tense music]

I don’t know what game you’re playing here, Ms. Cook, but I assure you, it will not work.

But you see, I’m certain that it will work, D.A. DiMera.

Ms. Cook… [clears throat] though you did not formally confess to the police, you stated to your son and his wife that you were behind the wheel of the car that mowed Sarah Horton down like a stray blade of grass. You also came clean to Brady Black, the man you framed for your crime. Yeah. Brady did tell us about the little talk you two had downstairs in holding.

You know, I’m sorry, but I don’t recall having any of the aforementioned conversations.

I have dealt with my fair share of contemptible, remorseless, despicable people sitting in that very chair. And you, Ms. Cook, are right up there with the worst of them.

Ugh, please, EJ, spare us your righteous indignation because when it comes to moral superiority, you are standing on a house of cards.

Trask, what are you doing here?

I’m here to stop you from badgering this woman without the benefit of counsel. Fiona, don’t say another word.

You’re representing this sociopath?

Mm-hmm.

Don’t you already have your hands full helping my sister run my family’s business into the ground?

Kristen’s doing quite well as DiMera’s CEO, which you will find out soon. But I’ll remind you that my contract allows me to take outside clients, especially poor, defenseless women who are being railroaded by patriarchal misogynists.

Okay. I’ll choose to ignore the insults. But I will give you the opportunity to argue the merits of your wholly baseless accusation. How is Ms. Cook being railroaded?

It’s simple. My client is being accused of a crime she didn’t commit. She’s innocent, so I demand her release immediately.

I’ll leave you two to talk.

Justin’s right. You can’t do this.

Sarah, sweetheart, I–

No, it would be such a huge mistake to hand over Titan to Kristen DiMera.

Sarah, please, come on. Listen to me. Just tell me you understand that I’m doing this for you.

I don’t understand. I don’t. Victor left you his company because he saw himself in you. If your father was alive, it would kill him to see you hand it over to that viper.

You’re absolutely right. But you’re also right when you say that Victor saw himself in me. And we both know that if– if it was Maggie’s health that–that was at risk, Victor would move heaven and Earth. He would go to hell and back to save her, wouldn’t he?

Yeah, he would. But I am not dying. And it’s not like we need this serum to save my life. Love… you know that I have accepted the fact that I will never walk again. And I’m gonna live with that.

Darling… I know how hard you’ve tried to do just that– to learn to live with it, to accept that you’ll never walk again. And I’ve seen the brave face that you put on for me and for everyone else. But no matter how courageous you are, I– I also see what a struggle it is for you. So I couldn’t live with myself if I knew that there was– if there was something that I could do to end that struggle, to end your suffering, and instead I just chose to cling on to some empire.

Yes, I’ve struggled. And I have suffered. And I count my blessings that that accident didn’t take my life. And I have– I have so much love and support from you and my mom and our daughter. I am lucky in so many ways. And I’m getting stronger every single day. As a doctor, I’ve seen people with disabilities go on and live full, vibrant lives. And I know that I can be one of those people. Baby, you do not have to do this. Please, just call Kristen, and tell that blackmailing bitch that the deal is off and you’ve changed your mind. [soft dramatic music] Please.

What is with the long face, little brother?

I’m fine.

No, you’re not. You’re in a terrible mood, and I assume it’s because of your impending divorce. Is Gabi taking you for all you’re worth?

The settlement’s fair.

Well, then what’s the problem?

The problem is… I’m not sure I want a divorce. [suspenseful music]

So where exactly do things stand between you and Stefan?

Well… he told me he wanted to file for divorce, then hired Melinda Trask to draw up the papers.

Trask is a shark.

So is my lawyer. I’m not worried about that.

All right. So it won’t be long until your marriage is over. [somber music]

Right, I guess.

But you don’t seem too happy about that. I thought you wanted out.

I did.

So has that changed? Are you done with Stefan? Or do you want him back?

I know I’m the one who called the time of death in our marriage, but… I can’t help but wonder if I made the right decision. [somber music]

Now, Gabi… it’s understandable that you feel conflicted about ending your marriage. Why wouldn’t you? You went into it hoping that it would be like Tía Hilda and Tío Gabriel’s– till death do us part. Now, we were raised to believe that marriage is a sacred bond.

Yeah.

Yeah.

But Stefan was the one to break our vows. I was so hurt and so angry when I found out he slept with Ava while I was rotting away in Statesville. All I wanted to do was hurt him back… by sleeping with his brother. [sighs] Not telling you anything you don’t already know?

No, you’re not. But I am getting the impression that you are not sure you want to end your marriage to Stefan.

No. I guess I’m not sure of that either. And Stefan seemed so sad the last time we spoke. I’m not sure this is what he really wants either.

Are you seriously considering staying married to Gabi after she slept with our brother?

Gabi only slept with EJ to get back at me for sleeping with Ava, which was a one-time, stupid, drunken mistake.

Yes, it was. But you’re still in love with Gabi. [soft dramatic music]

I never stopped loving her. Nope. Not for one second.

Well, I mean, who am I to judge? Lord knows I– I know all about not being able to move on from an ex. You know what? To hell with those divorce papers. If you are not % sure that you and Gabi are done, then tear them up, hmm? And get your wife back.

You can’t hand over your family business to Kristen.

Sarah, you just– you don’t understand.

I do understand. I know better than anyone what it meant to you to finally be acknowledged by Victor.

Even though he couldn’t bring himself to do it until he died.

Hey.

I am the one who will spend the rest of my life in this chair if you don’t make a deal with the devil. Doesn’t what I want matter?

Of course what you want matters, darling. It’s–it’s just, I’m not only doing this for you. I’m doing it for Victoria too. Don’t you want to be able to run and play with her, to walk her to school on her first day of kindergarten, to stand and cheer when she graduates high school? Don’t you want to go back to work and not in this wheelchair? [somber music]

Of course I want all of those things.

And I want those things for you.

Yes, but at what cost? I’m not just gonna sit and watch you hand over your birthright– Victoria’s birthright– to Kristen.

Victoria’s birthright is not Titan. It’s you– you, healthy and happy. I owe Victor nothing. I owe you everything.

Xander–

Darling, for years, all I cared about was earning Victor’s approval, finding my rightful place at Titan. But then I met you. And you saw me for– for who I am, and you gave me your love freely. And all you ever wanted from me was honesty. Whereas my own father couldn’t bring himself to love me while he was alive. And everything he left for me after he died– well, it doesn’t measure up to what you’ve given me in our life together. So I’m sorry, darling. Your wishes do matter to me, but my mind’s made up. When Kristin gets here, I’m– I’m going to give her Titan– lock, stock, and barrel– in exchange for the serum that can help you walk again.

Melinda, need I remind you that your client ran over Sarah Kiriakis and left her to die? That poor woman is paralyzed. She will never walk again. So there is no way in hell I am allowing Ms. Cook to walk out of here. I mean, the woman confessed, for God’s sake.

I did no such thing.

Fine. I don’t need a confession. I have two eyewitnesses– the victim and Brady Black. And both Sarah and Brady can positively identify you were the one who drove the car that struck her that night and are both willing to testify to that fact in open court.

EJ, that testimony and $ might get you bus fare to Chicago, but it most certainly won’t get you a conviction. You know it, and I know it. [dramatic music]

Don’t you have a physical therapy appointment this afternoon?

Oh, come on. You know I do. You’ve been more on top of my rehab schedule than I have. But you have not answered my question. Are you ready to end your marriage to Stefan? [soft dramatic music]

I thought I was. But if I’m being honest, I’m not sure.

Yeah. Well, do you want some advice from someone Tía Hilda calls “unlucky in love?”

Sure.

Okay. Give yourself the time that you need. Get out of your head, and listen to your heart. And then… you will know what to do.

[tender music]

Hey.

[panting]

“Whatever else there is… “means nothing much, you see, because you are everything to me.”

So beautiful.

Happy anniversary, my darling.

Happy anniversary, mi amor.

I’ve been dreaming about this for months.

So have I. – Thank you. I know I’ve been trying to push you away, and it feels really good to have you here with me.

I will always be here for you whenever you need me.

Promise?

I promise.

Make love to me, Stefan.

[sighs]

You know what, Melinda? To hell with your damn papers.

I am certain, Ms. Trask, that I have a strong case to make against your client. So we’ll just have to let the process play itself out, let a jury decide. But if you seriously think that any one of a dozen of your client’s peers will be unsympathetic to Dr. Sarah Horton Kiriakis, the granddaughter of the pillars of our community, the loving mother of an adorable one-year-old, when she wheels herself into court to testify to the fact that her lush of a mother-in-law ran her over, then you are less of an attorney than I first thought.

If anyone is less of an attorney here, it’s you, Elvis, because you seem to be forgetting that Sarah Kiriakis has also changed her story about what happened that night multiple times, making her, well, a not-so-credible witness. And as for Brady Black, the man’s an addict, obviously, and has been accused of, among other things, killing his uncle in a drunken rage and throwing him into the river.

If you’re referring to his Uncle Philip, the lunatic who faked his own death and then framed Brady, much in the same way that your client did.

Be that as it may, Brady Black’s testimony in this case is certain to offer reasonable doubt after reasonable doubt. The man was so intoxicated on the night of the accident that he even believed that he was driving the car. You see, he has changed his story also. So how can anyone be certain that he wasn’t really the person who hit Sarah?

You know he didn’t do it.

[scoffs]

Brady will testify that he woke up in the passenger seat of the car next to Fiona, who was behind the wheel. And he will also testify to the fact that she said that she had just hit someone.

Do you even hear yourself, EJ? When a jury hears the testimony of your two wholly unreliable witnesses, they will not even deliberate. They will acquit my client immediately. But hey, you want to take this to trial, be my guest. I will take great pleasure in tearing apart their testimony and your already tainted legal reputation. I’ll rip it to shreds. So do yourself a favor. Save the City of Salem the expense. Save yourself the embarrassment, and cut Fiona loose now.

I appreciate everything you said. I really do. I know that your heart is in the right place and that you’re doing this for me. But I cannot believe that you are giving Kristen what she wants without a fight.

[gasps] Did somebody say my name?

Kristen, how could you do this? You know what? That’s a really, really stupid question. You have no conscience. I know that better than anyone.

Sarah, I really don’t understand why you’re so angry about this. I mean, this is great for you, great for me. I am here to make a mutually beneficial business transaction.

Mm-hmm. Is that what you call trading my ability to walk with my husband and daughter’s birthright? God, your father must be so proud of you, looking up at you from the bowels of hell.

Oh, I’m gonna take that as a thank-you. So I’m just gonna say, you’re welcome. [tense music]

Move.

She is going to thank me, Xander, when she can walk. Now, do we have a deal or not?

[suspenseful music] * *

You’ll pay for this, Trask.

For what? Being a better lawyer than you are? Oh, I’m not gonna waste a second worrying about your threats of retribution because you are going to be so busy explaining to Mayor Price how you let yet another case slip through your fingers. Ciao.

[sighs]

Fiona?

Oh, hello, Sarah. [tense music]

What are you doing out of jail?

Oh, the D.A. dropped the charges. Your mother-in-law is now a free woman.

[knocking on door]

Stefan. Oh, my God.

You know, from what I hear… you never gave up on anything or anyone you ever wanted. I am your son, after all. I’d like to think I have that fighting spirit in me. And for that reason, I am not giving up on my marriage to Gabi. No, no. [soft dramatic music] I’m gonna fight for the woman that I love.

Yeah. [grunting] [dramatic music]

Well, I wouldn’t get too excited about that. I mean, there is a second vial, and it needs to be combined with that one to actually heal Sarah’s spinal injury. It’s just in case you tried to renege on the terms of our deal.

So when do we get the second vial?

Once your shares of Titan Industries are successfully transferred to me. [laughs] Now… [clears throat] Do you need a pen, Xander?

No, I’ve got one. Let’s get this over with.

I wouldn’t bother signing those, Xander.

Don’t try and talk me out of this now, Justin.

No, that’s not why I’m here. I’m here to let you both know that someone has filed an injunction prohibiting the transfer of Xander’s Titan stock to you. [dramatic music]

What the hell is going on, Xander?

Your guess is as good as mine. Justin, who filed the injunction? It’d have to be a family member, but–well, it can’t have been Alex. We all know he’s not Victor’s son.

But I am.

Philip.

Daytime Soap Opera Short Recaps

Days of Our Lives logo

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Bonnie went to see Abe and told him she had someone in mind to play the character of Regan. Abe wondered who she had in mind. Bonnie suggested Chloe’s sister Joy. Abe said she wasn’t on his audition list. Bonnie said she came from New York and was talented. When Abe asked if Joy had experience, Bonnie reminded him that he took a chance on her when she didn’t have experience. Abe said he didn’t want any additional problems. Bonnie said there wouldn’t be any problems. He decided to give Joy a chance. Chanel went to Alex’s apartment. They talked about Stephanie and whether or not they want a relationship. While they were talking, Abe sent Chanel a text needing to see her. She asked Alex to pick up Johnny’s cake and not to let Johnny find out. Stephanie and Paulina had a meeting to go over Paulina’s speech. Leo showed up and told them there was an emergency. He said there was a sex scandal on Body and Soul and he needed Stephanie. Paulina said the show hasn’t been on the air yet. Leo said that was why he needed Stephanie to put a stop to it. Stephanie wanted to know what was going on. Leo said he heard that Alex was having sex with one of his co-stars. Paulina said she hoped it wasn’t her daughter. Leo said he wasn’t suggesting Chanel, Bonnie or Hattie because there was plenty of actresses who could have fallen for Alex. Paulina asked why it was a scandal since co-stars fall for each other all the time. Leo said it happened on the set so they had to make the scandal go away before it ruined everything.

When Stephanie was alone, she was upset with herself for what happened with Alex. She ran into Alex while he was picking up Johnny’s cake. He noticed something was wrong with her and asked if she was okay. Stephanie said they shouldn’t sleep together ever again. Alex said he would respect her decision, but wondered what happened. She said they work together and what they did on the set was a mistake. They should remain professional. Alex agreed to what she wanted if she was sure. Stephanie said she was and walked away from him. Nancy went to Joy’s room and wondered where she was. Joy said she went to a bar and met a guy. When Nancy asked who she met, Joy flashed back to meeting Johnny. Joy said she met a guy Nancy probably didn’t know. She changed the subject by asking Nancy if she talked to her friend about the role. Nancy said Bonnie was trying to get her an audition. While they were talking, Bonnie texted Nancy and told her Abe agreed to see Joy. Chanel went to see Abe. He told her he needed her to read with an actress. She wondered who the actress was. Joy showed up and introduced herself. Abe gave them the scenes to read. Chanel and Joy went over their scenes. After the audition was over, Joy asked if she got the part. Abe said he would let her know. Marlena wished Johnny a happy birthday and gave him a cupcake from Chanel’s bakery. When Johnny didn’t want the cupcake, she noticed that something was wrong. He brought up her taking over for Charlemagne. Marlena said Leo talked her into doing it since Hattie stormed off the set. Johnny said she cursed the show. He said he felt the curse was working. When Marlena asked why he said that, Seth showed up to say he couldn’t wait to work with her. Bonnie showed up and took Marlena to the set. Seth told Johnny that there was unprofessional behavior on the set. They cast of Body and Soul started shooting scenes. After they finished shooting, Alex told Chanel that he bought the cake. When Johnny showed up, Alex left. Johnny wanted to know what he walked in on. Chanel lied and said they were running lines. Johnny called her a liar and said he knew she had sex with Alex. When she called him crazy, he said he saw them together before. He told her he followed her to Alex’s apartment and overheard them saying he was clueless. Chanel said it wasn’t what he thought, but Johnny said it was. He insulted her before he walked away from her. When Johnny walked on the set, he saw the surprised birthday party. Alex told him Chanel did everything for him. Chanel was furious and walked away. Johnny figured out that he made a mistake. Joy went back to the Salem Inn and told Nancy that the audition went well. Nancy told her the housekeeper found a wedding ring. She asked Joy whose ring it was.

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Johnny yelled at Chanel for sleeping with Alex. He confronted her about everything that he knew about the situation before he called her a slut. After the dramatic confrontation, he stormed off. Chanel was shocked by his comments. Johnny went to the nurses’ station and got a shock when everyone shouted “happy birthday” to him. Alex informed Johnny about how hard Chanel worked on making his birthday a success. Chanel coldly told Johnny that he should feel stupid right now. He was shocked when everyone sang to him. Chanel glared at him while he blew out the candles. She snapped at him to make a wish while he blew out the candles. Alex was about to hand Johnny a knife, and Chanel warned him to watch out or he would be stabbed with it. Chanel told him what Johnny thought about them. He said it was Seth’s fault because he was with Stephanie and not Chanel. Alex and Stephanie explained how they ended up together at the hospital. Johnny realized that he saw Stephanie and not Chanel. He looked at Chanel who glared at him. She picked up a slice of cake and shoved it in his face. Kate told Abe they were in good hands because Marlena agreed to play Charlamagne so they could kill the character off. They talked about a new diva for Cassandra to go against, but she wasn’t interested. It was time to talk about the character Regan and that’s when Joy walked in the door. Kate was happy to find a new actress for the show. Paulina showed up at the studio to rip into Kate and Abe for the problems that Johnny and Chanel were having. She blamed Abe for pairing Chanel and Alex. Johnny got jealous of the idea just like any man would. Abe was shocked because he didn’t know that Johnny had a problem with it. He hoped Johnny would change his attitude once things calmed down, but Paulina didn’t think that would happen.

Stephanie let Alex know that she was embarrassed that Johnny saw them having sex. Seth approached them, and Stephanie went off about him not knowing who she was when they met before. He wondered if she wanted the producers to know about what she did in the hospital room. Johnny went after Chanel, but she wouldn’t let him apologize to her. He wanted to explain why he went ballistic. She didn’t believe that he trusted her. Johnny tried to make sense of everything, but she believed that he didn’t trust her. She looked at his hand and noticed that his wedding ring was missing. Looking at that made her angry, and she wanted him to get out. Joy went to her room and found Nancy there. She told her about her audition. Nancy dove in and asked her about the wedding ring she found in the room. Joy didn’t care about the ring. Nancy reminded her about the way her marriage to Craig ended. She told her that Craig cheated on her in that hotel room with Leo. Nancy felt sorry for the man’s wife. Joy informed her that his situation wasn’t like Nancy’s. The man’s wife cheated on him. It’s a grey area. Nancy knew about grey areas, but it didn’t give her the right to sleep with a married man. Joy refused to confirm or deny whether she slept with the married man. Nancy told her that she loved her and was worried about her. Joy went ballistic and said she didn’t care about her. Joy didn’t believe her and reminded her that she didn’t want her. The mother and daughter got into a heated argument. Joy finally accepted that her mother loved her, but their problems weren’t over. She changed the subject and talked about her audition. Nancy wanted to know more about the ring, but Joy took the ring. She walked out the hotel room. Kate approached Stephanie and Alex and berated them for their unprofessional behavior. She accepted Stephanie’s apology and wanted to fire them. Kate decided to let them keep their jobs, but she wanted them to consider themselves warned. Joy walked into Johnny and gave him back his wedding ring. He took it but felt ashamed. Paulina showed up at the hospital to see Chanel. Chanel broke down in her mother’s arms.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Kate joins Abe at the Body and Soul studio. Abe comments on her seeming to be in a good mood. Kate responds that it could be because Marlena fell down the elevator shaft on screen, so with or without Hattie, Charlemagne got the dramatic death scene she deserved. Abe says she’s right that a pivotal scene like that should never be off camera. Kate calls it the kind of scene an audience tunes in for.

Chanel questions what Johnny is talking about and why he would think she and Alex were having sex. Johnny suggests she liked it so much the first time which she questions. Johnny shouts that he saw them in there going at it. Chanel calls that crazy and says they would never. Johnny repeats that he saw them and yells that she’s been lying to him ever since. Chanel asks him to listen but Johnny says it will just be more lies like the next day when she said she was going to the Bakery and she wasn’t there. Chanel says she was running an errand but Johnny reveals that he saw her at Alex’s apartment and heard them talking about how he would never find out and that he was clueless. Johnny bets they had a good laugh at how stupid he is. Chanel tells him that it’s not at all what he thinks. Johnny shouts that it’s exactly what he thinks and tells her not to even bother denying it because he’ll never believe another word out of her mouth as he calls her a cheating slut. Johnny declares that even now, she’s lying right to his face and he can’t believe it. Johnny says he can’t even look at her and storms out of the room.

Joy returns to her room to find Nancy is still there, so she reminds her that this is her room. Nancy says the maid is cleaning her room. Joy informs her that the audition went great and now she just has to wait to hear back. Nancy then reveals that she found a wedding ring in Joy’s room and questions who it belongs to. Nancy brings up Joy saying she met a man at the bar last night, so she can only assume that it belongs to him and she neglected to tell her that it was a married man.

Paulina wonders what’s taking so long. Johnny then storms by and is surprised by the birthday party setup with Alex, Stephanie, Paulina, Leo, Bonnie, and Seth. Johnny questions what this is. Alex asks if he’s surprised and says he better be because Chanel did all of this for him. Chanel then walks out behind Johnny and sarcastically says surprise as Johnny is left speechless. They sing happy birthday to Johnny while Chanel tells him that he should be feeling pretty stupid right now.

Kate tells Abe that she’s still concerned about being left with a huge star hole after losing Charlemagne as they can’t just go out and find a soap opera diva. Abe suggests bringing back the character of Lorna and if Kate agrees to play her. Kate says she’d rather solve problems behind the camera. Kate asks about the auditions for the Regan character that comes between Faith and Arrow. Abe responds that they are off to a very good start as he just directed an audition with a very intriguing actress, Nancy Wesley’s daughter, Joy.

Nancy continues to question Joy and asks her to just be honest on if it is or isn’t a man’s wedding ring. Joy says so what if it is. Nancy reminds Joy how her own marriage ended when Joy’s father was cheating on her over and over again. Nancy points out that it happened right here in the Salem Inn with Leo Stark, while she was sitting at home playing the dutiful wife being unaware that she was being betrayed. Joy responds that the difference is, she hasn’t betrayed anyone as she isn’t married. Nancy questions her being Leo Stark in this situation then. Nancy says she pities this poor man’s wife, not aware that she’s being betrayed.

They finish singing happy birthday to Johnny at the hospital. Alex asks if Johnny is going to blow the candles out. Bonnie reminds him to make a wish first. Chanel tells him to go ahead. Johnny then blows out the candles as they applaud. Alex tells Johnny that Chanel really outdid herself with this cake so she must really love him. Alex then hands Johnny the knife to cut the first piece. Chanel tells Johnny to be careful, remarking that she doesn’t trust him with the knife since he may or may not stab him with it. Alex laughs and questions why he’d want to stab him with it. Chanel responds that apparently they are sleeping together which shocks those in attendance. Paulina calls for everyone to listen as she doesn’t know what the hell is going on here, but she knows Chanel is no cheater. Alex asks Johnny where this is even coming from and why he would think they were sleeping together. Johnny shouts that he saw them. Chanel insists that it never happened. Johnny argues that Seth saw them too which Seth questions. Johnny reminds Seth of when he told him not to enter a room because Faith and Arrow were having sex in there. Seth claims he doesn’t recall saying it that bluntly but admits he remembers, but reveals his belief that Chanel isn’t Faith and points out Stephanie as Faith.

Kate didn’t know Joy was auditioning. Abe explains that Bonnie insisted they give her a chance and it went really well. Abe feels Chanel and Joy had the antagonistic energy which Kate says is exactly what they need. Abe thinks Joy could be a contender.

Nancy asks what Joy has to say to that. Joy responds that Nancy has no idea what she’s talking about because this guy’s situation is nothing like her and Craig’s, because his wife was cheating on him. Nancy asks if she thinks that makes it better, arguing that two wrongs don’t make a right. Joy says it’s not like this woman was some stepford wife waiting for her husband to return home, so it’s not so black and white. Nancy responds that she’s well aware of the gray areas. Nancy declares that no matter what his wife has done, it doesn’t give the man the right to sleep around. Joy questions Nancy assuming that he slept with someone. Nancy questions Joy about the ring and asks her to just be honest with her as she asks if she did or didn’t sleep with this man.

Johnny is confused by what he thought Seth meant. Leo sees that Johnny has been rendered speechless. Leo declares that Stephanie isn’t Faith or even an actress, but their publicist. Seth insists that he saw them rehearsing which Alex confirms. Stephanie explains that was only because Chanel was running late. Alex admits they got a little carried away and caught up in the moment. Johnny goes over that when Seth told him that he saw Arrow and Faith going at it, he actually walked in on Alex and Stephanie. Johnny turns to Chanel and says he doesn’t know what to say. Chanel says it’s probably best that he doesn’t say anything. Chanel shoves cake in Johnny’s face and remarks that it’s best not to talk with his mouth full as she then storms off.

Kate asks if Abe is not quite ready to hand the role of Regan to Joy. Abe repeats that she’s a contender but he’d like to see some other actors. Paulina arrives. Abe didn’t know she was coming so early for their lunch date. Paulina informs him that it’s been a day of unexpected events. Abe is sorry as he remembers Chanel is throwing a big bash for Johnny’s birthday on set, so he’s sorry he didn’t make it and asks if Johnny was surprised. Paulina reveals that they all were.

Leo eats birthday cake at the hospital while Bonnie comes over and questions what he’s doing. Leo argues that they can’t let the cake go to waste, insisting that Bonnie try a piece as well so she does. Leo talks about his birthdays growing up and now he’s the head writer of a show. Bonnie says they shouldn’t be doing this after what just happened. Leo points out that it could’ve been worse if Chanel was actually cheating on Johnny.

Nancy questions what Joy has to say as she clearly brought this man back to her room. Joy states that she’s not having this conversation with her mother. Nancy doesn’t want her to get hurt and says she might not see it as a big deal, but she’s her daughter and she loves her. Joy argues that Nancy doesn’t care about her and didn’t even want her in the first place.

Paulina tells Abe and Kate about how Chanel stuffed the cake in Johnny’s face and stormed out. Kate comments that it doesn’t sound like a fun party. Paulina calls it a disaster and says she wanted to go after Chanel, but figured it might be best to give them some alone time. Abe and Kate go over Johnny thinking he saw Alex sleeping with Chanel when it was actually Stephanie. Paulina confirms that is why it happened. Kate decides she needs to go do damage control and exits the studio.

Johnny follows Chanel to a hospital room. Chanel yells at him to get out of her way. Johnny asks her to just listen. Chanel asks if he’s sorry for calling her a cheating slut and says to imagine calling someone you love that. Johnny asks her to try to understand where he’s coming from, repeating that Seth told him that he saw Arrow and Faith having sex in the hospital room and he couldn’t believe it, but he looked in and saw Alex in bed on top of someone, so he got so upset and took off. Chanel complains that he assumed the worst instead of just asking her. Johnny admits that he should have but when he saw her later, her back had gone out and he thought it was from sex, feeling it was the timing and a coincidence while Chanel acted like nothing happened. Chanel argues that nothing did happen but that didn’t matter to Johnny because he already assumed that it had. Chanel shouts that it’s because Johnny doesn’t trust her.

Stephanie tells Alex that she can’t believe Johnny saw them in bed together. Alex says it’s not like they expected anyone to see them as they were consenting adults behind closed doors, pointing out that Johnny wouldn’t have come in if he didn’t think it was Chanel. Stephanie blames Seth for telling Johnny that Faith and Arrow were having sex. Seth reminds her that he saw them running lines and says that Stephanie looks like an actress. Stephanie argues that she’s a publicist and reminds Seth that they have had zoom meetings before. Seth argues that Abe and Kate talked about budget cuts and asks how he was supposed to know this wasn’t another one. Stephanie questions Seth thinking it’s his job to know things. Seth responds that he knows the show’s publicist had sex with one of the stars on set and asks if the producers would like to know that too, right as Kate arrives at the hospital.

Paulina tells Abe that she feels so bad for him because his show hasn’t even started airing yet and the director and lead actress are fighting. Abe responds that he feels bad for Johnny and Chanel. Paulina doesn’t want to lay the blame on anyone since it was a terrible misunderstanding but she wishes Abe didn’t have the brilliant idea to pair Alex and Chanel in the first place. Abe questions if she’s laying the blame on him. Paulina says only in part, arguing that none of this would’ve happened if Abe hadn’t gone on about the chemistry between Alex and Chanel. Paulina says Johnny got jealous and asks who wouldn’t in his shoes. Abe argues that he didn’t know Johnny had paranoia issues. Paulina remarks that the apple doesn’t fall from the tree in reference to EJ. Abe always thought Johnny was more evolved than his father.

Johnny tells Chanel that she’s right that he should’ve trusted her and asks her to try to see it from his perspective. Chanel goes over Johnny thinking he saw her having sex with Alex when it was someone else entirely. Johnny brings up also seeing her at Alex’s apartment and overheard her talking about him being clueless about a secret. Chanel complains that she was planning his surprise party and he was just trying to connect the dots to her cheating on him which only happened because he believed she would cheat on her husband, who she loves more than anyone in the world. Chanel then notices Johnny isn’t wearing his wedding ring and questions where it is.

Nancy tells Joy that she does care about her. Joy argues that she does when she needs something, like bone marrow to save the life of her real daughter Chloe. Nancy argues that Joy is as real of a daughter to them as Chloe is and they will be eternally grateful for her bone marrow saving Chloe, but that bone marrow is the least of the reasons they care about her. Nancy calls Joy the gift of a lifetime. Nancy asks if she’s finally getting through to her and repeats that she loves her. Nancy asks if Joy believes her. Joy says fine but that doesn’t mean all their issues are settled and everything is magically better between them. Nancy says she wouldn’t expect that but as long as she knows she loves and cares about her. Joy responds that she knows and apologizes for sending her on a guilt trip. Joy points out that Nancy still hasn’t asked how her audition went, so she does. Joy states that it was good and she thinks it went really well as she read with Chanel who plays Faith on the show and apparently her character is supposed to be after her man. Nancy calls that normal for Body and Soul and asks what they said. Joy says they will let her know. Nancy feels that’s a successful audition and suggests they have a celebratory lunch where Joy can tell her whose wedding ring that is. Joy says she’ll pass as she’s not discussing this with her mother. Joy decides she’s going for a walk and exits the room.

Chanel asks Johnny again where his wedding ring is. Johnny responds that he took it off. Chanel questions if he decided the marriage was over when he thought he caught her in bed with Alex. Johnny says it wasn’t like that. Chanel questions what it was like when she told him from day one that she wasn’t attracted to Alex. Johnny apologizes and doesn’t know what he was thinking as he feels like a fool. Chanel tells him not to touch her as she cannot believe she went out of her way to throw him this big birthday party, only for him to call her a cheating slut. Chanel yells at Johnny to get out, so he exits.

Abe tells Paulina that maybe as things calm down, Johnny and Chanel will realize this was a misunderstanding. Paulina wishes she had his optimism but talks about the look on Chanel’s face and says Johnny hurt her badly. Paulina declares that when Chanel is hurting, they better watch out.

Leo and Bonnie continue talking over eating birthday cake. Seth comes over and says it’d be a shame to waste all the cake, so he will go find an intern to bring it to the break room and walks away. Bonnie questions that meaning they have to share and says she doesn’t think so as she has a better idea.

Alex tells Kate that he can explain. Kate says that won’t be necessary as Paulina already gave her all the details. Stephanie says she can’t explain how sorry she is as what happened was completely unprofessional and assures that it won’t happen again. Kate accepts her apology but says unfortunately it did happen. Kate says that they are about to launch a show and she can’t have it getting out there that the publicist is sleeping with an actor on set. Stephanie assumes that means she is fired. Alex pleads with Kate not to fire Stephanie as it was not her fault and completely his since he asked her to run lines with him and they got carried away. Kate argues that she should fire them both for negatively affected a fellow cast member and director. Stephanie insists they are both very sorry. Kate says she is too but decides they can keep their jobs, as she’s not going to fire them, but calls this their first and final warning for now. Kate orders Alex and Stephanie to stay the hell away from each other as she walks away.

Bonnie and Leo go to the town square to finish eating the birthday cake. Leo remarks that this might all be Hattie’s fault since she did put a curse on the show when she got fired. Leo talks about that happening to him once years ago. Leo thinks Hattie’s curse is real and says maybe something truly terrible will happen to them next. Nancy then appears and calls Leo the homewrecker which Leo calls exhibit A.

Joy finds Johnny sitting outside of the Brady Pub. Joy says she’s glad she ran in to him since he left his wedding ring in her bedroom last night, which she hands back to him.

Paulina finds Chanel in the hospital room and asks where Johnny is. Chanel responds that he’s gone. Paulina asks if she’s okay. Chanel says no and breaks down crying as Paulina hugs her.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

Good morning.

Well… you seem to be in a good mood.

Yes, well, that might be– drum roll, please– because Marlena fell down the elevator shaft. On camera, of course… [chuckles] Which means, with or without Hattie Adams’ histrionics and all, Charlemagne will finally get that… rich, dramatic death scene she so richly deserves. [both chuckle]

I am glad to hear it. And you’re right. A pivotal scene like that should never be played off-camera.

No, never. Are you kidding me? A moment like that, the death of a beloved character– that’s the kind of scene an audience tunes in for. [dramatic music]

What are you talking about? My God, Johnny, why would you think that Alex and I are having sex?

Because you liked it so much the first time.

Johnny, I have no idea what you’re–

I saw you, Chanel, okay? I saw the two of you the other day in here going at it.

Okay, Johnny, this is crazy, okay? Alex and I would never–

I said I saw you, Chanel! And you’ve been lying to me ever since.

Johnny, Johnny, you– please, please, listen to me.

Why–why should I? It’s just going to be more lies. Just like the day after I saw you with him, you told me you were going to the bakery. Well, I went there and you were nowhere to be found.

I was running an errand.

Oh, at Alex’s apartment?

What?

Yeah, no, I heard you guys talking about how I was– I was never going to find out, how clueless I am. I bet you guys had a nice big laugh about– about how stupid I am.

Oh, my God.

What a fool your husband is.

Johnny, Johnny, this is not at all what you think.

No, it’s exactly what I think, okay? And don’t even bother trying to deny it. I-I refuse to believe another word that comes out of your mouth, because you’re a cheating slut. Even now… you’re lying right to my face. I can’t believe it. I can’t even look at you.

[door closes]

Mom, did you forget? This is my room.

Well, the maids were cleaning mine.

Oh. Well, the audition went great. Thank you for asking.

Mm.

Now I just have to wait and hear back.

Well, you know what I’m waiting to hear? Whose wedding ring this is.

[scoffs softly]

Well?

Well, what?

Well, you said that you met a man at a bar last night, so I can only assume that this belongs to him. What you neglected to tell me was that he was a married man.

Why’s this taking so long? Oh. all: Surprise!

W-what is this? Is this–is–

Happy birthday, Johnny boy. Are you surprised or what? I mean, you better be, because Chanel worked really hard on all this. All for you, buddy.

Surprise.

all: * Happy birthday to you *

I bet you’re feeling pretty stupid right now, because you should be. all: * Happy birthday, dear Johnny * * Happy birthday to you *

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

As much as I’m elated that Charlemagne has finally shuffled off the mortal coil thanks to Marlena… it’s still concerning to me that we’re left with a huge, star-shaped hole in the center of our canvas. I mean, who’s going to go toe to toe with Kassandra? I mean, it’s not like we can go online and, you know, find someone–find a capricious, fiery actress, a soap-opera diva.

I might have a solution… if we bring back Lorna…

[groans]

And if you agree to play her.

Okay, so I know exactly where you’re going, and I am more of a back-of-the-house kind of gal. I’d rather solve problems behind the camera, okay? Not make them in front of the camera.

That’s fair enough.

So, speaking of troublemakers, though, how are the auditions going for the Faith and Arrow spoiler? The–the Regan character?

Well, we are off to a promising start. I just directed a very good audition with an intriguing young actress.

Really?

Hmm.

Well, who was it?

Nancy Wesley’s daughter, Joy. [dramatic music]

Really, Mother? Must you be so…provincial?

“Provincial”? Joy, what are we, in a Jane Austen novel?

If only.

[scoffs] Just be honest with me. Is this or is this not a man’s wedding ring?

Let’s say it is. So what?

“So what”? [scoffs] May I remind you once again how my own marriage ended?

Not necessary, but go ahead.

Fine. It was because your father, a married man, was cheating on me over and over and over again.

In fact… it happened right here in this very hotel… [sighs] With that loathsome Leo Stark. All the while, your mother was sitting at home playing the dutiful wife… all the while being unaware that she was being betrayed.

The difference is, I haven’t betrayed anyone, Mother. For one thing, I’m not married.

Oh, so you’re not your father in this scenario. You’re that loathsome Leo Stark. Oh, Joy, how I pity that poor man’s wife sitting at home, not– not aware that she’s being betrayed.

all: * Happy birthday, dear Johnny * * Happy birthday to you * [applause]

* And many more * [laughter and applause] [dramatic music]

What are you waiting for, man? You gonna come blow these suckers out or what?

Make a wish first.

[laughs]

Go ahead. Make a wish.

[exhales sharply]

Yay!

Yeah. [applause] I got to say, your wife really outdid herself with this cake, man, huh? She must kind of love you or something.

Anyway, birthday boy gets to cut the first piece.

Careful with that, Alex. I-I don’t know if I’d trust him with that knife.

[laughs] Why–why is that?

Because he may or may not stab you with it.

He’s going to stab me with it? Why would he– why would he want to s– why would he want to stab me with it?

Well, apparently… you and I are sleeping together. [people gasp]

O-okay, now, everybody listen to me and listen– listen hard. Now, I don’t know what the hell is going on here, but I do know one thing. My baby girl is no cheater.

Johnny, what the– Where is this even coming from, bro? Why would you think that Chanel and I are sleeping together?

Why? Why? Because I saw you guys, that’s why.

What are you talking about?

This is crazy. You couldn’t have seen us because it never happened.

Oh, really? I wasn’t the only one. Seth saw it, too.

Well–

What? When?

When? The other day. Remember, I ran into you in the hallway. You said, don’t go in that room because Arrow and Faith are having sex in there. [dramatic music]

Well, I don’t recall saying it that bluntly, but, yeah, I remember.

You see?

But that’s not Faith. That’s Faith.

I didn’t know that Nancy’s daughter was auditioning.

Bonnie insisted that we give her a chance.

Oh. So it went well.

Yeah, it went, uh, really well. You know, Chanel– Chanel and–and Joy had this– this antagonistic energy.

Well–ha– that’s exactly what we need. Huh. Do you think we found our home-wrecker? Do we have our Regan?

Well, I do think that Joy Wesley could be a contender.

Well, what do you have to say to that, dear?

[chuckles] What I have to say is, you have no idea what you’re talking about, Mom. This guy’s situation is nothing like yours and Daddy’s. For one thing, his wife is cheating on him.

Oh, so you think that makes it better? Joy, have you not heard the expression, two wrongs do not make a–

Right. Yes, yes, of course I have. But it’s not like this woman is some Stepford wife waiting for her husband to return home to give him his slippers or whatever. It’s not so black and white.

[chuckles] I am well aware of the gray areas.

What does that even mean?

It means that… no matter what his wife has done, it doesn’t give the man a right to sleep around.

And you just assume that he did sleep with someone?

Uh, well, am I wrong, or am I right? Are you telling me that you didn’t just find that in a Happy Meal?

[sighs]

Come on, Joy, just be honest with me. Did you or did you not sleep with this man?

[sighs]

But she– No, wait. I-I thought you meant–

Oh, I can see that our birthday boy has been rendered speechless, so I’ll take the lead here. As it so happens… Stephanie isn’t Faith. In fact, she isn’t even an actress. She’s our publicist. [clicking tongue]

But wait. I saw you two. Weren’t you… rehearsing?

Yes, Stephanie and I were rehearsing.

Only because Chanel was running late.

And got a little carried away. Got a little caught up in the moment. That’s all.

O-okay, so wait, wait. Let me get this straight. When you told me that you saw Arrow and Faith going at it and I walked in, I opened the door, I-I actually walked in on… Alex and Stephanie?

Chanel, I-I-I don’t know what to say.

Yeah, it’s probably best that you don’t say anything… because as my mama taught me…

Best to not speak with your mouth full.

[cake thuds]

Are you not quite ready to hand the role of Regan to Joy?

[chuckles] As I said, she’s a contender.

Ah.

But I would like to see some other actors. Oh, Paulina. I-I-I didn’t know you were getting here so– so early for our lunch date. [dramatic music]

Well, Abraham, it’s been, you know, a day of, I guess you’d say… unexpected events.

I’m–I’m sorry, this is, uh, Chanel’s– Chanel is throwing this big bash for Johnny for his birthday on set. And I’m–I’m–I’m sorry I didn’t make it. So how was it? Was he surprised?

Oh, he was. Matter of fact, we all were.

Mm. This is so flipping delicious. Ah.

Leo, what are you doing?

What? We cannot let this delicious cake go to waste.

[scoffs] Jeez.

Mmm. You think this is gluten-free?

What, do you have a gluten allergy?

No. Here, you got to try this.

No, I–

Try it.

What the hell?

Oh. Mmm.

Oh. Oh, my God.

Right? Right? This is so much better than the cake my dad made for me when I turned seven.

Mm, what was wrong with the cake he made you?

Well, besides the fact that he baked it at, like, , degrees, it was so dry you could barely choke it down, he scribbles “Happy Ninth, Junior” in the frosting.

Honey, he didn’t know how old you were?

And often got my name wrong. But look at me now, hmm? Eating this delicious cake, head-writing a TV show. Although my childhood trauma is like a diamond mine, Bonnie, I’m like a little miner boy– overalls on, shovel in hand, schmutz all over my face.

Poor little Leo. [chuckles] Mmm, mmm. You know what? We shouldn’t be doing this. We should not be gorging ourselves like this.

Why not?

Because the baker just got accused of infidelity.

Could’ve been worse.

How?

She actually could have been cheating on him.

All right, you’re right. Cheers. Mm. Oh. Oh!

[sighs]

Well… what do you have to say? Joy, clearly, you brought this man, whoever he was, back to your room.

Whoa, okay. Not having this conversation with my mother.

Honey, I just don’t want you to get h–

What? Get hurt?

Yes, get hurt. From your youthful vantage point, this may not seem like a big deal, but… [both sigh] You’re my daughter, and I love you.

Oh, please. You don’t care about me. You didn’t even want me in the first place.

So Chanel goes and stuffs the cake right into his face and, you know, then storms out of there with Johnny right on her heels.

Hmm. Whoa, that does not sound like a fun party.

No.

No, it was a disaster. Oh, and, you know, I just so wanted to just go to my baby girl and, you know, just give her a hug, tell her how wonderful she is. And then, you know, I thought, you know, it might be best to give them some alone time.

Well, that’s all because Johnny thought he saw Alex… sleeping with Chanel.

When he was actually with Stephanie.

Yes, that is why it happened.

[sighs] Okay, if you’ll excuse me, I think I need to go do some damage control before “Body & Soul” turns into the set of “Caligula.”

Mm.

[exhales deeply]

Get out of my way.

No, Chanel.

Get out.

Just wait. Just wait for a second. All right, listen… listen, I just want to tell you–

What? That you’re sorry for calling me a cheating slut? Imagine calling someone you love something like that and right before you walk into the surprise party that they threw for you. Oh, wait, no, you don’t have to imagine.

Look, please, Chanel, just try to understand where I’m coming from, all right?

Seth told me that he saw Arrow and Faith– Arrow and Faith–having sex in a hospital room. And I didn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe it. But I looked in, and I saw Alex in bed on top of someone, and I just–I-I-I got so upset that I-I just took off.

Yeah, and you decided to assume the worst, instead of just– I don’t know–asking me.

You’re right, Chanel. You’re absolutely right. I should have asked you. I should have just asked you, but I–

But what, Johnny?

Because I saw you later, all right? And your–and your back had, you know, gone out, so I thought–

So you thought– [laughing] You thought it was from a sex injury? I told you I was tying my shoe.

But the timing of it all and–and the coincidence… And–and–and then you were just acting like nothing even happened, so I–

Because it hadn’t happened. But whether or not anything did, it didn’t matter to you, did it? No, because you already assumed that it had. And you know why? It’s because you don’t trust me, Johnny, do you?

Hey, can I talk to you for a sec?

Yeah.

I cannot believe that Johnny saw us in bed together.

I know. And the fact that he thought it was Chanel and me?

That’s what makes this whole thing even crazier.

Yeah, but, Steph, it’s not like we expected anybody to see us. We’re consenting adults. We were behind closed doors in a hospital room. Good for us. Plus, Johnny would have never came in if he didn’t think it was, you know, Faith and Arrow.

You know this is all your fault, right?

Wait, what?

Why did you tell Johnny that Faith and Arrow were having sex? I mean, have you–have you seen the real Faith? How could you think that I was her?

I told you, I saw you two running lines. Plus, you look like an actress…

[sighs]

So I just assumed you were.

Yeah, well, I am not an actress. I’m a publicist. And I have sat in on meetings with producers and you, and we were on a Zoom meeting one-on-one.

Yeah, I remember, but Kate and Abe explicitly said that they had to cut overhead. So how was I supposed to know that this wasn’t another belt-tightening measure?

Well, it occurs to me that you think your job is to know things.

Oh, I know things. And one of them being, is I know that the show’s publicist had a romp in the hay with one of its stars on the set! Now, do you think that the producers would like to know that, too? [dramatic music]

Oh, Abe, I feel so bad for you.

Me?

Yes, you. I mean, your–your show hasn’t even started airing yet, and your lead actress and director are fighting because he thought he walked in on her sleeping with her costar?

Yeah. Yeah. Well, tell you who I feel bad for. Johnny and Chanel.

Oh, me too, but… [scoffs] I mean–and I don’t want to lay the blame on anyone here. Obviously, it was a terrible misunderstanding, but, oh, how I wish you hadn’t have had that oh-so-brilliant idea to pair Alex and Chanel in the first place.

Are you laying the blame on me?

O-only in part. I mean, let’s face it. None of this would have happened if you hadn’t gone on and on and on about… what good chemistry those two had and just insisted how damn perfect they’d look together as costars. I mean, come on, now, Johnny’s only flesh and blood. The man got jealous. Who wouldn’t, in his shoes?

You know, being jealous is one thing, but how was I to know that the man had issues and was paranoid and…

Well, well, why not? I mean, as the saying goes, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Are you– are you referring to–

Mm-hmm, yes, I am referring to that British daddy of his. Yes.

Well, I always thought that Johnny was more evolved than his father.

Chanel, you’re right, okay? Of course I should have trusted you, but–but can you just– Will you try to see this from my perspective?

What perspective is that, Johnny– the one where you thought that you caught me having sex with Alex? Oh, wait, no, sorry, it wasn’t me. It was someone else entirely.

I know, but I also saw you at Alex’s apartment.

Yes, planning your surprise party that he offered to help me with.

Yeah, well, I know that now, don’t I? But on that day, when I saw you in his hallway and I overheard you saying how clueless I was and that you had to keep it a secret from everyone, do you see how I would connect those dots together?

Yes, only because you were connecting the dots to try to make them equal up to me cheating on you, okay? Don’t you understand that all of this so-called evidence only leaned that way because you believed that I would actually cheat on you, my husband, the man that I love more than anyone in this world?

Wait, where’s your… Wedding ring?

Joy, honey, of course I care about you.

Right, you care about me when you need something… like, for instance, bone marrow to save the life of your real daughter, Chloe.

Sweetheart, we’ve gone over this so many times. Of course you’re as real a daughter to us as Chloe is. [scoffs] And though your father and I will be eternally grateful that you were a bone marrow match for Chloe when she was sick… Honey, bone marrow is the least of the reasons we care about you. [sighs] Your being our daughter was the gift of a lifetime.

Joy, sweetheart… please tell me that I am finally getting through to you. I love you.

Joy, please tell me that you believe me.

Fine, you love me. But that doesn’t mean that all of our issues are settled and everything is, you know, magically better between us.

No, I wouldn’t expect that. But as long as you know that I love and care about you…

Fine, I know. And I’m sorry for sending you on a guilt trip.

Oh. It’s okay. I’m used to it.

And now you’re sending me on one.

I’m sorry. I didn’t–

You know, you still haven’t asked me how my audition went.

I was just about to. So how was it?

It was, um–it was good.

Just good?

Actually, it was– went really well, I think. I read with one of the characters on the show. Well, it’s Chanel Dupree, but she plays Faith on the show. Apparently my character is supposed to be after her man. [both chuckle]

Well, that sounds normal for “Body & Soul.” So what did they say?

That they’ll let me know.

That sounds like a successful audition. [gasps] Oh, this calls for a celebratory lunch. Um, and then maybe you can, uh, fill me in on whose wedding ring that is.

Actually, you know, I’ll pass.

Joy, I–

As I told you, I am not discussing this with my mother. [dramatic music]

Where are you going?

For a walk. [door opens, closes]

Well… where’s your wedding ring, Johnny?

Look, I-I took it off.

When? When what? When you decided that the marriage was over because you thought that you caught me in bed with Alex?

No, okay? It wasn’t like that.

Oh, no? Then what was it like, hmm? I told you from day one that I am not into Alex, period, end of story. But what did you think? That he would just get me so turned on that I would just, oh, my God, cheat on my husband who I love so much because some guy took his shirt off?

Look, I-I-I know, okay? I’m sorry. I am sorry, Chanel. I-I don’t know what I was thinking. I-I feel like a fool. Please–

Don’t touch me.

Chanel.

I said don’t– Oh, my God. I cannot believe that I went out of my way to throw this big surprise party for my husband, only for him to look at me in the face and call me a cheating slut.

Chanel.

Get out.

I said get out!

Okay.

[door closes]

You know… maybe–

Maybe–maybe what?

Well… maybe as things calm down, Johnny and Chanel will learn that this was just a misunderstanding.

[sighs] I wish I had your optimism, Abraham, but you were not there to see that look on my daughter’s face. Johnny hurt her badly. And when my daughter’s hurting, you better watch out.

I’ve been thinking of switching astrology signs.

What? You can’t do that. It’s when you were born, silly.

So? I’m tired of being a Pisces. I was thinking about trying on… Gemini maybe or Virgo.

Mm.

They’re very organized, those Virgos. I could use some of that.

I know what you mean. [chuckles] Mmm.

It’s a shame to waste all of this cake. I’ll see if I can find an intern to bring it to the break room.

Does this mean…

We have to eat this cake in the break room?

No, that we have to share. I don’t think so. I have a better idea.

Kate, I can explain.

Okay, that won’t be necessary. Paulina already gave me the details.

Kate, I-I can’t even explain to you how sorry I am. What happened was completely unprofessional, and I assure you that it won’t happen again.

Yes, I am sure you regret what happened, and I accept your apology. Unfortunately, it did happen. We are about to launch a show. And I can’t have it get out there that our publicist, who is responsible for promoting the image of the show, is sleeping with an actor… [sighs] On a set, no less.

Right.

[sighs]

So… I assume this means I’m fired.

Kate, please, you cannot fire Stephanie. Come on, this was not her fault. It was completely mine. I asked her to run lines with me, and we just– we got a little carried away.

You certainly did. And by rights, I should fire you both for being shamelessly indiscreet, for embarrassing the whole company and negatively affecting a fellow cast member and director whom you both know.

For which we are both very sorry.

So am I. [sighs] But you can keep your jobs. I’m not going to fire you.

Oh.

You’re not?

No. But consider this your first and final warning. For now, you two… stay the hell away from each other. [dramatic music]

[mouth full] You know, this might be all Hattie Adams’ fault.

Um, I didn’t quite catch that.

Mm. [normal voice] I said this might be all Hattie Adam’s fault.

You mean Johnny finding out– or thinking, at least– that Chanel was cheating on him?

That’s what I mean. After all, the woman did put a curse on the show when she got fired.

So I heard.

Happened to me once, years ago. I went to grab the last container of garlic hummus at Whole Foods, and this petite woman walking an affenpinscher with beady little eyes stared right through my soul.

What kind of curse did she put on you?

I’d rather not say, but this curse, this Hattie Adams curse, I think it’s real. And who knows? Maybe something truly terrible is going to befall you at any moment. [gasps] Or me.

Well, well, well, if it isn’t the little home-wrecker.

Exhibit A.

Johnny. Hi.

Uh… [clears throat] Joy.

I’m, uh–I’m glad that I ran into you. You, um… you left this in my room last night.

[breathing heavily]

Where’s Johnny?

Gone.

Chanel, honey. Oh, honey, are you okay?

[breathing heavily] No. No, Mom, I’m not.

Oh, baby.

[crying]

Daytime Soap Opera Short Recaps

B&B logo

Recap written by Suzanne

Hope and Carter discuss how Steffy shot down his idea of bringing back the jewelry line with Ivy. Hope urges him to speak to Ridge. He says that Ridge has shot his ideas down in the past. Hope thinks that maybe he’s been too nice. She supports his ideas and says that his voice matters as COO. He’s grateful for her support.

Will and Zende talk briefly about Zende’s new designs. When Zende mentions wanting to talk to Hope about accessories, Will asks him if he means jewelry. Zende hasn’t heard anything about a jewelry line at Forrester, nor has heard about anyone named Electra (which seems strange, since he’s a Forrester). Zende wonders if the young woman, Electra, was teasing Will. He warns Will not to get too distracted by the women there. After Zende leaves, Will has a flashback to meeting Electra.

Steffy and Ridge catch up about how she’s worried about how Carter has been acting, and she tells Ridge about Carter bringing Ivy and Electra there to talk her into reviving the jewelry line. Ridge listens intently as she says that she vetoed the idea. Later, they call Zende in to talk about how the line is failing. He’s enthusiastic about his designs, but Steffy points out that they’re losing buyers.

Hope and Carter arrive; Steffy mentions that she may have to cut Hope For The Future. With Hope’s support, Carter speaks up about moving forward with mergers and acquisitions into a Forrester luxury umbrella. He urges them to think on a grand scale instead of cutting lines. Ridge looks intrigued.

Ivy and Electra visit Eric (Ivy is his niece). They all hug. Electra tells Eric that she’s interested in both fashion and jewelry. After they talk about the jewelry, Eric asks Ivy if she’s been in touch with Quinn. She says she hasn’t. She learned what she needed to from her and has since gone in her own direction. She tells Eric that Steffy vetoed the idea of Forrester bring her and the jewelry line back. Eric thinks that it’s a great idea; he promises to speak to Steffy and Ridge about it. He also invites them to stay, saying that they’re Forresters, and this is their home, too. There are more hugs.

Days Update Wednesday, October 23, 2024

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Chanel goes to Alex’s apartment where he answers the door without a shirt on. Chanel worries that she’s interrupting he and Stephanie again but Alex assures that Stephanie is not there.

Stephanie is working with Paulina in the town square, discussing a fundraiser and uploading her speech. Stephanie gives Paulina a list of issues to avoid. Leo joins them, but Paulina says they are having a business meeting. Leo says this is an emergency as they are having a major PR snafu at Body and Soul that he needs Stephanie on, as it’s a sex scandal.

Bonnie joins Abe at the Body and Soul studio. Abe mentions casting for a new character. Bonnie reveals she already knows about the new character of Regan Holloway and that she read up and loves about how she is supposed to come between Faith and Arrow. Bonnie tells Abe that she’s already found the perfect girl to play the part, who embodies the whole wild child vibe and she’s drop dead gorgeous. Abe asks who she is. Bonnie tells him that it’s Chloe’s little sister, Joy Wesley.

Nancy goes to Joy’s room at the Salem Inn, knocking on her door to wake her up. Nancy informs her that she knocked on her door at 2 AM but she wasn’t there, so she must have found time for the night life and questions where she was last night.

Johnny runs in to Marlena at the hospital. Marlena wishes him a happy birthday and mentions speaking to Allie, who sends her love. Marlena gives Johnny a birthday cupcake made by Chanel. Marlena asks Johnny what’s wrong but he claims there’s nothing at all. Marlena says she doesn’t believe that.

Abe informs Bonnie that Joy is not on his list. Bonnie informs him that she came all the way from New York City just for the chance, so it would be a shame not to let her show him what she’s got as she’s very talented. Abe asks if she has any experience. Bonnie assures that she does and that Nancy said she’s a born performer. Bonnie points out that Abe gave her a chance when she had zero experience, but he saw her raw talent and it worked out really good. Abe admits they are very lucky to have her. Bonnie says he has a great eye for talent, so she knows he will see right away if Joy has it or not. Bonnie adds that Joy could use some direction in her life. Abe argues that this is a business and they can’t afford more difficult personalities on set. Bonnie insists that Joy is an angel and very low maintenance. Bonnie jokes that Nancy might be the difficult personality in their relationship. Bonnie asks Abe to just give Joy a shot and if she bombs, she’ll never mention it again. Abe shows Bonnie the list and asks when he’s supposed to see her. Bonnie asks how about right now before he gets started.

Joy tells Nancy that they got separate rooms so she wouldn’t have her all up in her business every day. Nancy reminds her that she’s paying for her room and questions where she was last night. Joy says she went to a bar and it’s no big deal. Nancy argues that she could have an audition today. Joy insists that she didn’t get trashed, so she’ll be fine as she was just hanging out. Nancy questions who she was hanging out with when she doesn’t know anybody. Joy informs her that she met somebody at the bar, so Nancy asks who. Joy thinks back to meeting Johnny, then tells Nancy that it was just some guy.

Johnny assures Marlena that he’s fine and that he’s just a bit distracted as he was up late for all the scenes today. Johnny brings up Marlena filling in for the role of Charlemagne and how he’s excited to direct her. Marlena explains that she’s only doing it because Leo talked her in to it after Hattie stormed off set. Marlena says that must have been an exciting day for him. Johnny says especially when Hattie cursed the show on her way out the door. Johnny then thinks back to walking in on what he thought was Alex and Chanel. Johnny then remarks that he actually thinks her curse might already be working. Marlena asks why he says that.

Chanel tells Alex that maybe she shouldn’t have brought up he and Stephanie. Alex says it’s not a sore subject and that Chanel walked in on their goodbyes. Alex adds that Stephanie left so quickly that he doesn’t even know where they stand. Alex tells Chanel that he and Stephanie just want to be friends. Chanel thinks it’s really simple and asks if he wants to be friends with benefits with Stephanie or if he wants something more. Alex responds that he doesn’t know what she wants. Chanel advises him to ask her. Alex agrees that maybe he should talk to her.

Paulina questions Leo about a sex scandal when the show hasn’t even hit the air yet and complains that this is the last thing Abe needs right now. Leo tells Stephanie that they need to nip this in the bud now. Stephanie questions what this scandal is. Leo calls it newsworthy and naughty as he has it on good authority that Alex Kiriakis is having sex with one of his co-stars, shocking Stephanie and Paulina.

Joy repeats to Nancy that it was just some guy and she’s sure she doesn’t know him. Joy asks if Nancy talked to Bonnie. Nancy confirms that she did and that she’s going to arrange Joy’s audition with Abe. Joy calls it great that she has the job then but Nancy tells her that she has to audition first. Nancy then gets a text from Bonnie that Abe said yes and Joy is up first, as soon as possible. Nancy tells Joy to get dressed and knock them dead.

Chanel gets a text from Abe that he needs her to stop by the production offices. Chanel complains that she already has so much to do for Johnny’s birthday party. Alex asks what he can do to help. Chanel asks Alex to stop by the Bakery, pick up the cake and bring it with him to work. Alex says he’s happy to help. Chanel calls him a lifesaver and reminds him not to let on to Johnny, assuring that he hasn’t figured anything out about the birthday party. Chanel that mentions that she hasn’t seen Johnny much since they started production as he’s been working late and he was gone today before she got up, so she hasn’t even had the chance to tell him happy birthday yet.

Marlena questions Johnny saying Hattie’s curse is working and asks if something happened. Seth Burns interrupts and comments on Marlena joining Body and Soul, joking that they don’t want to lose her from the hospital to Hollywood. Seth mentions that he’s been easing in to it. Marlena explains that she doesn’t have any lines and just has to go down the elevator shaft. Seth advises her to make sure there’s plenty of mattresses down there before she jumps. Bonnie arrives, so Johnny asks her to take Marlena to the makeup room. Bonnie tells her it’s going to be so fun. Marlena tells Johnny that they will catch up later as she walks away with Bonnie. Seth comments to Johnny that he didn’t mean to scare Marlena off, but remarks that unprofessionalism seems to be going around these days. Seth brings up Hattie walking off set, Leo rejecting all of his outlines, and he still can’t believe walking in on what he thought was Faith and Arrow going at it on set. Johnny says he can’t either.

Stephanie questions Leo saying that Alex is sleeping with somebody at the show. Leo says not just somebody, but one of his co-stars. Paulina hopes he’s not talking about her daughter, who is happily married and planning her husband’s birthday party. Leo says he’s not suggesting Chanel, Bonnie, or Hattie as plenty of other actresses could’ve fallen prey to Alex. Stephanie asks how he even knows it’s true. Leo insists that his sources are never wrong and brings up Alex’s reputation. Paulina warns Leo against talking about someone’s reputation. Leo says the problem is that this hookup happened on set and comments on a stage hand having to clean up. Leo tells Stephanie that a scandal like this could take down the whole show. After Leo and Paulina leave, Stephanie asks how she could be so stupid and says this is exactly why they shouldn’t have gotten involved. Alex then arrives and greets her. Stephanie questions him not being on set. Alex explains that Chanel asked him to pick up Johnny’s birthday cake and invites her to come with him but Stephanie says she has a lot on her plate so she’ll just see him on set. Alex asks if everything is okay. Stephanie says not exactly but they can talk about it later. Alex thinks they should talk about it now. Stephanie then tells Alex that she doesn’t think they should sleep together anymore, ever.

Chanel goes to the Body and Soul studio. Abe hugs her and thanks her for making the time as he knows it was really short notice. Chanel asks what’s going on and if there’s a problem. Abe explains that she’d like her to read lines with a new actress who is auditioning for the role of her rival. Abe calls it a favor for Bonnie and asks Chanel if she could ask Johnny to direct but Chanel reminds him that she’s planning Johnny’s surprise party so she doesn’t want to tip him off in any way. Joy then arrives and meets Chanel.

Leo watches on as Johnny finishes directing Marlena’s scene at the elevator shaft. Marlena hopes she doesn’t have to do that again. Johnny calls her a one take wonder while Leo thanks her as they couldn’t have done it without her. Marlena says it’s Johnny’s birthday, so she was glad to spend some extra time with him. Bonnie praises Marlena. Marlena says she’s just glad she didn’t have any dialogue. Johnny assures that she would’ve been brilliant either way. Johnny tells Marlena that she’s now free to get back to her normal life and her important day job that actually matters. Marlena encourages that Johnny’s job matters too as a lot of people are really counting on him. Johnny says he doesn’t mean to sound ungrateful but he’s just exhausted. Marlena wishes him a happy birthday and hopes he enjoys the rest of his day as she hugs him. Marlena thanks them and heads to her office. Bonnie asks if that’s it for her too. Leo asks Bonnie and Seth to stay for one more scene that was a last minute add, but notes that she won’t have any lines. Seth reads it over and is excited that his character has a lot to say here. Seth asks if he’s been upgraded. Leo says he has and congratulates him. Johnny tells Leo that he didn’t hear anything about this. Leo tells him not to worry, assuring that it’s all been approved.

Joy assumes Chanel plays Faith, which she confirms. Chanel introduces Joy to Abe as their executive producer. Joy says it’s nice to meet him. Chanel explains that her character hates Joy’s character’s guts so she asks her not to be offended by any of the insults. Abe gives them the scenes to go over and asks them to make it quick as they have a bit of a time crunch. Joy thanks Abe for fitting her in and promises not to disappoint. Chanel likes Joy’s confidence. Joy says she must be a good actor then, admitting she’s pretty nervous. Chanel says she’s pretty new at this too and suggests they just have fun with it. Joy then decides she’ll just brave it and she’ll get in to it as they go along. Joy brings up that Abe said they are in a time crunch so they can just jump in. Joy tells Abe that she’s ready, so Abe tells them to go ahead and rehearse. Chanel and Joy run lines, where Joy’s character Regan tells Chanel’s character Faith about running into Arrow at the bar. Chanel as Faith calls Joy’s character a homewrecking bitch and to stay away from her man. They end the rehearsal scene with Chanel pretending to slap Joy as Abe watches on, impressed.

Johnny directs Seth for a hospital scene while Bonnie makes sure with Leo that they aren’t killing her off again. Johnny begins the scene where Seth’s character is on the phone and comments that they haven’t seen the last of Charlemagne. After they cut, Johnny questions Leo about it, reminding him that Marlena only agreed to the one scene and he’s pretty sure Hattie isn’t coming back. Leo questions where his sense of drama is, pointing out that Charlemagne has been back from the dead six or seven times. Leo says that Marlena may say she’s done but you never know, so now they have an insurance policy just in case.

Alex tells Stephanie that he will respect whatever she wants but questions where this is coming from. Stephanie reminds him that they agreed not to sleep together anymore but then they did again and again. Stephanie says they obviously had conflicting feelings but they work together and it’s too complicated. Stephanie adds that what happened on set was a big mistake. Alex admits it wasn’t the best idea. Stephanie declares that it doesn’t matter anymore because it’s over and they will just keep things professional. Alex says he gets it if that’s what she really wants. Stephanie assures that it is and walks away.

Joy asks Abe if she got the part. Abe says he can’t tell her because he has other people to see today, but they will reach out to her if they are interested. Abe tells Joy that she may go, so she exits.

Leo informs Johnny that Chanel needs to see her in the hospital room set as she has a question about a scene. Johnny points out that they aren’t even shooting in there today. Leo says she’s his wife so he doesn’t know. Johnny then goes to find her. Bonnie comes back and complains to Leo. Marlena comes back, so Bonnie praises her performance again. Bonnie asks about Johnny’s birthday. Paulina then arrives and says Chanel forgot Johnny’s birthday present. Paulina says she thought she would stick around for Johnny’s party and have some birthday cake. Marlena gets paged to the trauma room, so she tells them to enjoy the party and give Johnny her love as she walks away. Paulina then asks Leo if he made any progress with the PR snafu. Leo looks over at Stephanie and Seth Burns and says he’s not sure. Seth approaches Stephanie and greets her, believing that she plays Faith, so he asks her if they can run lines together before a scene tomorrow. Stephanie responds that she’s sorry but she has no idea what he’s talking about.

Alex joins Chanel in the hospital room and tells her the cake looks amazing. Chanel calls it Johnny’s favorite. Alex tells her that Leo will be bringing Johnny in any second, so he says to distract him while he goes to get the party setup. Johnny then enters the room. Alex says he’ll see them on set and exits. Chanel goes to hug Johnny and wish him a happy birthday but Johnny pulls away and questions what she and Alex were doing in there alone. Chanel claims that they were just running lies but Johnny tells her to stop lying to him. Chanel questions what she would be lying about. Johnny tells her to spare him as he shouts that he knows they were having sex in there.

Stephanie tells Seth that she doesn’t know what he’s heard, but she’s not an actress. Alex comes over and calls for everyone to quiet down as Chanel will be bringing the birthday boy in any minute. Bonnie calls for everyone to get festive as she passes out birthday party hats. Stephanie hastily walks away from Alex, leaving him confused.

Days of Our Lives Update

Days of Our Lives logo

Update written by Joseph

Jada and Stephanie are together at the Brady Pub. Stephanie asks about Sarah’s hit and run case being done with and Brady being free. Jada jokes that now she gets to go home to try to convince Rafe to come back to work. Jada says she’s going on about her, but asks what’s going on with Stephanie. Stephanie tells her nothing much, except she slept with Alex again.

Justin goes to see Alex at his apartment. Justin talks about how much fun they had carving pumpkins when he was a kid, so he brought a pumpkin. Justin adds that he hasn’t seen him much since he started Body and Soul, so he thought it might be a good time to bond as he brought along a six pack of beers.

At the Kiriakis Mansion, Bonnie practices her lines for Body and Soul, noting that she’s finished 10 pages and has 65 more to go. Bonnie calls out to Henderson to make her a martini, saying that she needs to see a friendly face. Nancy Wesley then arrives, surprising Bonnie.

Chanel calls Johnny from the town square and says she just finished up at the Bakery and asks if he wants to meet up for dinner. Johnny is at the bar, but claims he’s still at the studio. Chanel questions him being there this late. Johnny lies and says he’ll probably be there a while.

Bonnie and Nancy embrace. Bonnie excitedly talks about her visit and asks how things are in New York and what she’s doing in Salem. Nancy responds that she’ll talk about her later, but she wants to talk about Bonnie. Nancy asks if it’s true that Bonnie is now a big soap opera star. Bonnie can’t believe Nancy has heard of Body and Soul all the way in New York City. Nancy then reveals it’s actually the reason she’s here.

Chanel asks how long Johnny thinks he’ll be at the studio. Johnny says he’s not sure as he still has a lot to do. Chanel guesses she can’t complain after he suffered through all her mornings at the Bakery. Johnny mentions stopping by the Bakery earlier today. Chanel notes that Felicity told her and says she’s sorry she missed him, but she was running an errand. Johnny thinks back to seeing Chanel leaving Alex’s apartment, not knowing she’s planning his birthday party. Johnny then asks what the errand was. Chanel claims she had to go to the pharmacy to pick up medicine for her back and says she’s doing good. Chanel guesses she will see him at home later and tells him not to work too hard. Chanel says she loves him and hangs up while Johnny says “pharmacy my ass” as he drinks a beer at the bar.

Alex and Justin talk about Xander walking in on Fiona trying to push Sarah down the stairs after Fiona ran Sarah over and tried to frame Brady for it. Alex jokes that it makes what they do on Body and Soul seem tame in comparison. Alex asks how Bonnie likes working on the show. Justin says she loves it, especially working with Alex. Alex thinks Bonnie just likes giving him the motherly advice she wanted to give him in real life. Justin then asks Alex about working with his co-star. Alex says it’s been fine even though they haven’t shot any scenes together lately, but the photoshoot went smooth so he’s not expecting any problems. Alex tells Justin that there’s no issues there, but there’s a situation with another co-worker that got a little messy.

Stephanie tells Jada that after she and Alex renewed their agreement to remain just friends, she was going back to her apartment but then they started making out. Stephanie says the more they try to say just friends, the less they can keep their hands off each other. Jada compares it to her and Rafe in the beginning, but feels like Stephanie doesn’t think it’s a good thing. Stephanie calls it a complicated thing. Jada points out that it’s happened twice now and bets it will happen again. Stephanie admits she wouldn’t bet against it. Jada asks what she thinks this means for them. Stephanie responds that she has no idea.

Bonnie tells Nancy that it was all Kate and Abe’s idea to keep Body and Soul alive as Abe was a very big fan. Nancy admits she is too and she loves seeing all the divas going at it. Bonnie declares that now she’s one of them and calls it crazy. Nancy praises Bonnie and says they are lucky to have her. Nancy adds that she was reading in one of the soap magazines that they haven’t finished casting, so she was wondering if that was still the case. Bonnie asks if she was thinking she could snag a part. Nancy assures it’s not for her as she hasn’t acted since a high school play where she forgot her lines. Nancy then announces that she wants her daughter to audition and she was hoping Bonnie could put in a good word.

Paulina joins Chanel in the town square. Chanel says she’s feeling better thanks to the muscle relaxers that Kayla gave her. Chanel comments on Paulina having the night off from being Mayor for once. Paulina says she’s always make time for a mother-daughter dinner and asks about Johnny being unable to make it. Chanel says he’s working late unfortunately. Paulina jokes that he could complain with his executive producer. Chanel assures that they are all happy with the job. Paulina thinks Johnny should be having a relaxing dinner with his wife instead of burning the midnight oil.

A woman joins Johnny at the bar and says she’s been traveling with her mother all day, so she needs a drink. Johnny tells her that she’s come to the right place then. She says she’s going to splash water on her face and asks Johnny to order her a drink, unless he’s leaving soon. Johnny responds that he has nowhere to be. The woman returns and notes the quick service in getting her beer which Johnny tells her to enjoy. She says she needed it as she thought the day would never end. She talks to Johnny about her mom being annoying and having no respect for boundaries with drama every step of the way. Johnny comments that it sounds stressful. The woman continues talking about the day with her mom. Johnny admits he’s not listening to her and tells her that other people have problems too. She apologizes for trying to have a conversation and goes to leave but Johnny stops her and introduces himself. She introduces herself as Joy. Johnny then welcomes her to Salem.

Paulina asks Chanel how things are with her and Johnny since it’s been a few days since their early morning squabble at her apartment. Chanel responds that things are okay but they are about to get a lot better because she’s planning a surprise party for Johnny on set for his birthday. Paulina calls that a cool idea and asks if she needs any help as she loves parties and surprises. Chanel brings up Paulina getting Ricky Martin to play her 5th birthday party. Chanel says that Johnny’s party will be a smaller gathering. Paulina says to let her know if she needs any help. Chanel thanks her but reveals she already enlisted Alex. Paulina is surprised and asks if she’s sure that’s a good idea.

Justin asks Alex about he and Stephanie spending a lot of time together. Alex responds that it’s kind of hard not to since they work on the same show together and they live across the hall from each other. Justin calls Stephanie a lovely person and says he’s glad to hear they are friends again, but asks if maybe it’s more than that. Alex says maybe sort of. Justin asks if that means they are getting back together.

Jada asks Stephanie if she and Alex talked afterwards. Stephanie says they didn’t as she woke up in his bed and then got the hell out of there like the walk of shame. Jada asks what there is to be ashamed of. Stephanie clarifies that she’s not ashamed, but disappointed because they agreed not to do anything that might ruin their friendship, but then they did. Jada points out that they both did it, so it looks like Alex wanted it to happen too. Stephanie admits it seemed that way in the moment and as far as she knows, they are still friends. Jada asks what the problem is then, pointing out there’s nothing wrong with being friends that have occasional sex unless one of them want more than that.

Bonnie questions Nancy wanting Chloe to audition for Body and Soul. Nancy says no and reveals she meant her other daughter, Joy.

Nancy’s daughter Joy thanks Johnny for the welcome. Johnny admits it came too late and that he’s just in a bad mood. Joy asks what got him in a bad mood. Johnny responds that his wife did and tells Joy that she’s cheating on him.

Nancy tells Bonnie that Joy is all grown up and quite a handful, calling her stubborn and feisty. Bonnie jokes about who she takes after. Nancy admits she’s a lot like her, but she has a knack for getting in to the messiest situations…

Joy asks Johnny about his wife cheating on her. Johnny questions saying that out loud to a stranger. Joy assures that she won’t tell anyone, pointing out that they don’t have anyone in common anyway. Joy says she’s really sorry for what he’s going through as it sucks. Joy is sure he doesn’t want her two cents, but says she does have a lifetime of experience in assuming the worst of people. Joy asks if there’s a chance he’s jumping to conclusions based on flimsy evidence. Johnny then tells her he walked in on them. Joy asks if he knows the guy. Johnny says that he does and that she works with him. Johnny explains that they had actually slept with each other before they were married. Joy questions him being okay with them working together. Johnny tells her that his wife swore to him that everything was in the past and there was no attraction there, so he stupidly believed her. Joy understands he trusted his wife and asks what he did after walking in on them. Johnny says he turned around and walked out while Joy questions why the hell he didn’t confront her.

Chanel tells Paulina that Alex was really nice in offering to help with the party. Paulina reminds her that Alex was the reason Johnny got all jealous about their love scenes. Chanel insists they talked it out and it’s fine. Paulina brings up Johnny admitting it’s been harder on him than he expected. Chanel thinks once they get the first bedroom scene over with, everyone will realize it’s nothing and not a threat to anyone’s marriage. Paulina questions them not shooting the love scene yet. Chanel reminds her that they had to postpone because of her back. Chanel says it’s on hold until tomorrow, but she thinks what’s really getting to Johnny is the anticipation, so she believes once the love scene is over with, everything will be just fine.

Alex tells Justin that he and Stephanie are not getting back together, pointing out that it didn’t work out the first time so there’s no reason it would now. Alex adds that he was just married to Theresa while Stephanie just lost someone important to her in Everett. Justin says he doesn’t mean to be insensitive, but points out that Everett and Theresa are gone. Alex feels it doesn’t matter as he doesn’t think that he and Stephanie are really meant to be as it’s just not like that. Justin asks what is it like then.

Stephanie tells Jada that she and Alex don’t want more than what’s going on right now. Jada calls it a friendship with occasional love making. Stephanie suggests not calling it love making because no one is in love here. Jada feels there’s something she’s not saying. Stephanie repeats that no one is in love here, including her. Jada says she knows how it is with exes and running in to each other at a vulnerable time. Jada states that hearing Stephanie talk is giving her the vibe that there might be something still there.

Nancy shows Bonnie a photo of Joy and calls her a born performer and drama queen. Nancy says when she saw the casting call for Body and Soul, she thought she should let her showcase that on screen. Nancy talks about Joy being adrift and going from wanting to be in beauty school to wanting to be a doctor like her dad. Nancy thought if Joy could just get a part on Body and Soul, then maybe she could find her purpose.

Johnny tells Joy that he wanted to confront his wife and the guy she was having sex with and he wanted to walk in and beat him to a pulp, but he just went numb in shock. Joy says she gets that and asks what about the next time he saw her. Johnny says he thought she was going to confess and apologize, so maybe they could eventually work past it, but instead, she acted like nothing even happened. Johnny feels Chanel lied right to his face and then snuck out to see him again the next day. Johnny explains that she said she was going to run an errand but he saw her go to his place where he heard Chanel make Alex swear not to say anything and even called him clueless. Joy says she’s sorry but the woman sounds like a stone cold bitch. Johnny says she’s not though and a month ago, he would’ve said there’s no way she’s capable of this but now it’s like he doesn’t even know who she is anymore. Johnny adds that the reason he’s not confronting her about cheating on him is because he feels like if he actually puts it out there, then it’s real and he would still give anything for it not to be.

Chanel tells Paulina that the goal is to get through this love scene and then surprise Johnny with a party and since Alex will be helping with it, maybe Johnny will feel better about him and they can all move forward as friends. Paulina asks what about the next love scene. Chanel says she’s not helping. Paulina wants her to have realistic expectations. Chanel truly believes that once they get past Johnny directing the love scene, it will be a million percent easier moving forward. Chanel declares that after they do this, all the weird tension and hurt feelings will be over with and it will be smooth sailing all the way.

Alex tells Justin that he was in a pretty low place when he moved back in to his apartment and Stephanie kept him steady through the dark times. Alex says he can’t stop thinking about what it was like when they were together and how badly he screwed it up. Alex adds that it took them a long time to get back to being friends and Stephanie agreed that they need to keep things the way they are. Justin points out that they are now sort of, kind of, more than friends. Alex mentions that after they woke up this morning, Stephanie ran out like the apartment was on fire after calling the whole thing a mistake. Justin asks if he agrees that the whole thing was a mistake.

Stephanie admits that the idea of getting back with Alex has crossed her mind, but notes that it went so horribly the last time and they’ve been getting around so well recently that she doesn’t want to risk losing that, even if she feels something for him because Alex doesn’t feel the same way. Jada questions how she knows that and if she’s asked him. Stephanie admits she hasn’t asked because of worries that he might say he doesn’t and she hasn’t forgotten that the old Alex was a player and a very bad boyfriend. Jada points out that people can change. Stephanie believes Alex has changed but questions how much, pointing out that Alex has had multiple threesomes and seemed very comfortable with friends with benefits. Jada decides maybe that’s a good thing that’s what they are then but Stephanie admits she’s not fine with it. Stephanie calls it confusing, reckless, unfulfilling and wrong. Stephanie declares that as far as she’s concerned, she and Alex are strictly friends from now on with no more sex.

Alex reminds Justin about carving the pumpkin. Justin notes Alex avoiding his question and says he understands that he’s a grown man and it’s none of his business. Alex says he gets why he’s asking and appreciates that he cares, but the whole thing is moot because Stephanie is not interested in him like that. Alex and Justin then joke about going ahead with carving the pumpkin.

Bonnie and Nancy hug as they talk about it being so good to see each other. Nancy congratulates Bonnie on being a diva on TV and says she’s sure she will be a fan favorite. Nancy adds that she knows Bonnie has nothing to do with casting. Bonnie responds that it would be her pleasure to put in a good word for Joy and she will make sure that she gets an audition.

Joy asks Johnny what he’s going to do apart from drowning his sorrows and telling his deepest secrets to a stranger. Johnny points out that she’s not a stranger anymore. Joy points out that he can’t hole up in that bar forever. Johnny admits it is getting old already, except for her company. Joy thanks him and says he can’t let his wife keep cheating on him while acting like nothing is wrong as it will eat him up inside.

Chanel and Paulina joke back and forth about paying their bill. Paulina talks about Chanel growing in to a successful entrepreneur and actress. Chanel brings up Paulina being the mayor. Paulina admits they have a lot to be proud of and grateful for. Chanel decides she should head home so she can be well rested for her scenes tomorrow and for the big surprise.

Johnny tells Joy that she’s right that he has to confront his wife sooner than later. Joy asks if he will do it tonight, but Johnny says not tonight.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[dramatic music]

[groans] Oh, Chanel, hey.

Oh, I’ve done it again.

Done what again?

I’m interrupting, aren’t I? You and Stephanie–

You’re not interrupting anything. Stephanie’s not here.

And for the fundraiser, we’re going to need you to stick to these talking points. We’ve uploaded your speech to the prompter, but I know sometimes you like to–

Go off book?

Mm-hmm.

Well, I like to feel out the crowd. And if I’m bombing, I– I’m diverting to my, you know, natural–

Which–which is why I’ve also included a list of no-nos. I think it’s best if we just avoid these issues.

Oh, good morning, ladies.

Excuse me, Leo. We’re having a business meeting here.

And I’m sure it’s very important, but this is an emergency. We are having a major, major PR snafu at “Body & Soul” that I need you on top of, like, pronto. It’s a sex scandal. [jazzy music]

Hey, boss.

Oh, Bonnie. Bonnie, look, I only have a minute. We’re–we’re casting a new character, and–

Oh, yes, I know. Regan Holloway, yes. You can just cancel those auditions, actually. See, I’ve been reading ahead, and I know all about the interloper who’s supposed to come between Arrow and Faith. Great stuff, by the way.

Bonnie, I–

And I have found the perfect girl to play the part. She totally embodies that whole wild-child vibe, if you know what I mean. And to top it off, she is drop-dead gorgeous.

OK, OK. Who is she?

Chloe Lane’s little sister, Joy Wesley. [knocking]

Joy, wake up! [knocking] [footsteps pattering] [sighs]

Jeez! Are you trying to wake up the whole hotel?

I thought I was trying to wake up the dead.

I was asleep, Mother.

Oh. Well, it’s no wonder. [chuckles] I knocked on your door at : a.m., too, and you weren’t here. You obviously found time to find out about all the nightlife here in Salem. So where were you last night?

[sighs] [dramatic music]

Hey.

Hey.

Happy birthday.

Thank you, Grandma.

I spoke to Allie. She sends her love.

Oh, that’s– [clears throat] That’s nice.

Anyway… oh, I–I got you a birthday cupcake, deliciously made by your loving wife.

What is wrong?

Oh, nothing, nothing at all.

Well, somehow I don’t believe that.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Joy Wesley. No, not on my list.

Oh, no, I know. See, Abe, she came all the way from New York City just for the chance. And really, it would be a shame not to give her the opportunity to show you what she’s got because, Abe, this girl is talented, very talented.

Does she have any experience?

Oh, yes, I’m sure her résumé is very impressive. In fact, Nancy said she was a born performer.

Look, Bonnie–

No, listen, Abe, look at it this way. See, you gave me a chance, right? And I had zero experience. But you, sir, you saw my raw talent. And it worked out pretty good, all right?

[chuckles] Yes, Bonnie, we are– we’re very lucky to have you.

Thank you, Abe. See, you, sir, have a great eye for talent. And I know that you are gonna see right away whether she has it or not. And, Abe, between you and me, the girl could really use a confidence boost. You know, she needs a little direction in her life.

Bonnie, you know that this is a business. And we just can’t afford to have any more difficult personalities on our staff.

Oh, oh, Abe. No, no, no, no, no, I didn’t mean that. No, Joy is an angel, an angel. Very low-maintenance, extremely low. In fact, I don’t want to diss my friend or anything, but I think Nancy might be the difficult personality in that relationship. Anyway, Abe, seriously, if you could just give Joy a shot. And if she bombs, mm, so be it. I will never mention it again. [jazzy music]

When am I supposed to see her?

Well, looks like you have a little time before you start. How about right now?

[sighs]

You know, Mother, the whole point of having two rooms is to not have you all up in my business every second of every day.

[chuckles] And just who’s paying for those two rooms, Miss Joy Wesley?

[sighs]

Where were you last night?

I went to a bar, OK? No big deal.

Big deal– you may have an audition today.

Chill. Mom, I didn’t get trashed or anything. I’ll be fine. I was just…hanging out.

Hanging out? With who?

[sighs] You were just– you don’t know anybody. You were just a baby when we moved away.

It’s a bar, Mom. I met somebody.

Who? Are you even listening to me?

No, not really. And–and no offense, but you are aware that other people have problems as well, right?

Wow. I thought Midwesterners were supposed to be friendly. Sorry for trying to have a conversation.

Wait.

[sighs] I’m Johnny. What’s your name?

Joy.

Hey, Joy. Welcome to Salem.

Just some guy. [dramatic music]

I’m fine, really. I just–I’m a bit distracted, I guess. I was up all night blocking the scenes for today.

Oh, sure. Well, I–I hope you find some time to enjoy your special day.

Thanks, Grandma. Or should I say Charlemagne?

Oof. You heard.

I did. In fact, I’m gonna be the one who’s directing you today, which I’m very excited about.

Well, that makes one of us. Actually, I’m only doing it because Leo talked me into it because I guess Hattie refused to– to die and then just stormed off the set. Oh, that must have been a very exciting day for you.

Oh, yeah, yeah, especially when she cursed the show on her way out the door.

Uh, I don’t think you want to go in there.

Why not?

Well, Arrow and Faith… they got a little carried away.

What do you mean?

I poked my head in there a little while ago, and at first, I thought, oh, they’re rehearsing. But then I realized they were…

In a steamy love scene for real.

Actually, I think her curse might already be working.

Why do you say that?

Sorry, maybe I shouldn’t have brought up you and Stephanie.

Ah, you’re fine. It’s not like it’s a sore subject or anything. We didn’t really get a chance to talk after–

After I clumsily walked in on you two?

Well, luckily, you walked in on our goodbyes, and we had already finished the–you know. Anyway, Stephanie left so quickly, I don’t know where the hell we stand.

Only where you lie down.

Ha, ha, ha, ha. I see we’ve reached the teasing level of our friendship. OK.

Sorry, sorry.

Mm.

OK, so you were saying.

I was saying…

Mm-hmm.

Stephanie and I just want to be friends.

Uh-huh.

We just keep on– Go ahead. I know you want to interject.

No, no, I’m being respectful.

OK. It’s very unlike you.

[laughs] Look, Alex, just– I think it’s really simple. Do you want to be friends with benefits with her or not? Or maybe you want something more? Yes? No? Maybe?

I don’t know what she wants.

OK, well, here’s a bright idea. Ask her.

All right. Maybe I should talk to her.

Mm-hmm.

A sex scandal? And the show hasn’t even hit the airwaves yet.

Oh, we don’t say airwaves. It’s a streamer. We say interwebs. It hasn’t hit the interwebs.

Well, it sounds like it’s hitting the fan. Oh, this is the last thing Abraham needs right now.

Believe me, I know, hence my rude interruption. Steph, we have to nip this in the bud, like, now.

OK, Leo, before we go to DEFCON , what is this supposed scandal?

Well, I may not be Lady Whistleblower anymore, but this little sniffer can catch the first whiff of something newsworthy, especially when said newsworthiness is of the naughty and titillating variety. And I have it on good authority that Alex Kiriakis is having sex with one of his costars. [gasps]

Just some guy, Mother. I’m sure you don’t know him. Did you talk to your friend who works on “Body & Soul”?

Oh! Yes, I did. I talked to Bonnie, and she’s going to try to arrange it with Abe Carver. He’s the producer.

Great. So I have the job.

No, you don’t have the job, Miss Entitled. You have to audition. But Bonnie said that she’s gonna try and arrange it. Oh! I just haven’t heard from them yet. [phone beeps] Oh, wait, wait. [gasps] He said yes!

Really?

Really. Oh, and you’re up first.

What? First? What time am I supposed to be there?

Oh, as soon as possible.

Oh, my God. I’m still in my pajamas.

You need to go get dressed and– and knock them dead.

Can I get you something?

No, actually, I came by to– [phone beeps] Oh. Oh, great. Abe needs me to stop by the production offices. I already have so much to do with Johnny’s birthday party, and now this.

Well, what can I do to help? What do you need?

Actually, that’s why I came by.

OK.

I wanted to see if maybe you could stop by Sweet Bits on your way to set and pick up the cake and bring it with you to work. Because I would have done it myself, but then I’m just so swamped with everything. And then Felicity, she didn’t have the cake ready yet. She needed a little more time. And now Abe, he needs me to stop–

I know. I know. You had me at cake, OK? I’m happy to help.

OK. You’re a lifesaver.

I know. I try.

And don’t let on to Johnny, OK?

I also know how surprise parties work, Chanel.

Mm, do you?

Are you sure he hasn’t figured out anything yet?

Yes, I’m sure.

OK, OK.

Although I haven’t seen much of him since production started. I mean, he’s always working super late. And last night, he worked super late. And then this morning, he was gone before I got up. So I haven’t even got a chance to tell him happy birthday yet.

Aww. [dramatic music]

What do you mean, Hattie’s curse is working? Has something happened?

[sighs]

Dr. Evans, my fellow thespian. Well, will you look at us? Isn’t it something?

It is…something, all right.

Well, don’t have too much fun today. We wouldn’t want to lose University Hospital’s top psychiatrist to showbiz.

Or our hospital administrator.

[chuckles] Fear not. I’m just an under-five. That’s industry lingo for five lines of fewer per episode. I’m easing into it.

Well, I don’t have any lines. I just have to take a nosedive down an elevator shaft.

Oh, I know. Word to the wise. Make sure there’s plenty of mattresses down there before you jump.

Hmm.

Oh, Bonnie. Good, you’re here. Would you please show my grandmother to makeup?

Oh, absolutely. Come on, Marlena. I’ll show you the ropes. It’s gonna be so fun.

Yeah. We will catch up a little later?

Sure.

It’s this way.

I didn’t mean to scare Marlena. But unprofessionalism seems to be running rampant around here. Ms. Adams walks off the set. Leo Stark rejects all my alt lines. And I still can’t get over finding Faith and Arrow going at it on the set.

Yeah, yeah, me neither.

Alex is sleeping with somebody at the show?

Did you not hear me? Not just somebody– one of his costars.

I hope you’re not suggesting that it’s my daughter, who is a happily married woman and who is planning her husband’s surprise birthday party as we speak.

Madam Mayor, Your Highness, I am not suggesting Chanel or Bonnie or Hattie, for that matter. There are plenty of other actresses who could have fallen victim to… the hotness of Alex Kiriakis. I mean, that rocking body, those bedroom eyes.

All right, all right, Leo, how do you even know that this is true? It could just be some crew rumor.

Oh, no, no, no. It is no rumor. My sources are never wrong. And I mean, given Alex’s reputation–

Yeah, well, I don’t think you should be talking smack about anybody’s reputation, Leo Stark. Besides, what’s so scandalous? Costars, they–they date, fall in love all the time. Who knows? These two could wind up being married for years.

I suppose, but the problem is that this hookup happened on set. This poor stagehand had the very unenviable task of, well… cleanup on aisle five, if you catch my drift.

Oh.

Anyway, point is, Steph, we have got to make this disappear because a scandal like this, frankly, could take down the whole show.

[sighs]

Ugh, how could I be so stupid? This is exactly– exactly why I didn’t want to get involved with– [dramatic music] Damn it.

Steph.

Alex.

Hey.

Hey. Hey, shouldn’t you be on set?

I’m headed there soon, but first, I’m on a secret mission. I’ve been deputized as the official birthday cake delivery boy. Chanel asked me to pick it up on the way. You want to come with?

No, I–I can’t. I–I have a lot on my plate right now. So I’ll just–I’ll just see you over there.

OK, no problem.

[sighs]

Is everything OK?

Not exactly.

Not exactly?

We can talk about it later.

I think maybe we should talk about it right now.

Fine. I don’t think we should sleep together anymore. Like, ever.

Hey.

Oh, Chanel. Oh, thank you so much.

Mm-hmm.

Thanks for making the time.

Yeah.

I know this was really short notice.

Sure. What’s going on? Is there a problem?

Oh, no, no, no. I would like you to read with an actress we’re auditioning– it’s very short notice…

Mm-hmm.

For Faith’s rival, Regan Holloway.

Hmm, oh, well, OK.

[chuckles] It’s a favor to Bonnie, actually.

Mm, well, I am happy to help.

Well, good. Hey, do you think that you could ask Johnny if he could direct?

Oh, no, no, no, no, no. Remember, today is the day that I’m throwing his surprise party. So I do not want to tip him off in any way.

Yeah. I’m sorry. I–I forgot. So I’ll direct the audition.

All right.

OK.

So you said that Bonnie knows this actress. What’s her name?

I’m Joy.

Oh.

And you are?

I’m Chanel. Nice to meet you.

And cut. [bell rings] All right.

Oh, man. Thank you. [sighs] [indistinct chatter] Please tell me I don’t have to do that again.

You are a one-take wonder, Grandma.

Dr. Evans, thank you so much. Truly, we could not have done that without you.

Well, thanks. But the happy coincidence is that it’s my grandson’s birthday, and I was glad to spend the extra time with him.

Marlena Evans, you should get a Daytime Emmy for Best Scream Ever.

Oh, thanks. You’re very kind. But I’m just glad I didn’t have a lot of dialogue to learn.

It would have been brilliant no matter what.

I think you might be the slightest bit biased.

Ah, just very tasteful.

So I’m late for my day job. So unless you need anything else from me, Mr. Director?

No, no, you are wrapped. So please feel free to get back to your– your normal life, to your very important day job, one that– that actually matters. Johnny, your– your job matters too. A lot of people are really counting on you here.

Thank you, Grandma. And I know that. I’m just–I don’t mean to sound ungrateful. I’m just exhausted.

I know you are. Happy birthday, anyway.

Thank you.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your day. Oh, my love. Hmm. Thanks, everybody.

Bye. And that’s a wrap for me, too, right, Johnny?

Actually, if you and Seth can stay for one more item– it was a last-minute add.

Ugh, not more purple pages.

It’s a pink page, Bonnie, pink. And you don’t even need one. You don’t have any lines.

[laughs] Leo! I don’t know what to say. I mean, wow! I actually have a lot to say here. Have I been upgraded from an under-five to a… whatever you call it?

You call it a day player. And yes, indeed, you have. Congratulations, Seth. [laughter]

Leo, I didn’t hear anything about this.

Oh, don’t worry, Johnny. All of it’s been approved.

Huh.

So, Chanel, I assume you play Faith?

Yeah, I do. And this is Abraham Carver, our executive producer.

Oh, well, it’s nice to meet you, Mr. Carver.

Same here, Joy.

Oh, and just FYI, my character hates your character’s guts. So please, just don’t be offended by any of the insults I am about to hurl your way.

OK, well, I’m sure I’ve heard worse.

All right.

Well, here are the scenes for you two to go over. And please, make it quick. I’m afraid we have a bit of a time crunch.

Right. Oh, hey, thank you for fitting me in. I promise I won’t disappoint. [chuckles]

I like the confidence, Joy.

Well, then I must be a good actor, because I’m really pretty nervous.

Oh, well, don’t be. I’m pretty new at this myself. So let’s just have fun with it, OK?

Fun?

Yeah.

Yep. All right. You know what? I’m just gonna brave it.

Well, are you– are you sure you don’t want to just, like, read over it?

No, no, I’ll be OK. I’ll just–I’ll get into it as we go along.

Well, we can run the scenes really quick.

No, no, Mr. Carver said we’re on a time crunch, so let’s–let’s just jump in. OK, I’m–I’m ready.

Mm. All right, great. Then let’s go ahead. And action.

[clears throat] OK. “Just tell me where you were last night, Regan.”

“I stopped by the Cheatin’ Heart for a drink. Is that all right with you?”

“All depends. Did you run into any interesting people there?”

“Well, if you’re referring to Arrow, yeah, he was there.”

“Right. “Yeah, he told me all about your little encounter. Said you play a mean game of pool.”

“Well, I am flattered by the compliment. “But the truth is, Arrow did beat the pants off me “with his smooth, steady stroke, “swinging through the cue ball like it’s not even there. And he sure does look fine bending over that table.”

“You listen to me, Regan. “You can throw your little schoolyard innuendos “in my face all you want, but you will never shake “my faith in Arrow, because we have been through “a long and tortured road, and we are finally together in every way.”

“Mm, why, I don’t know what you mean by ‘schoolyard innuendo,’ Faith.”

“Well, then let me elaborate, OK? “You see, the only cheatin’ heart “at the Cheatin’ Heart last night was you, “you home-wrecking bitch. So stay away from my man.”

“Hmm. The real question is, can he stay away from me?” [dramatic music]

Oh, and it says that I’m supposed to slap her right here. OK.

[gasps]

Oh, and cut. [laughter]

Nice. Good work.

OK, Seth, I’m gonna have you right here.

If we could just– there, perfect.

Hey, wait a second. You’re not killing me off for real this time, are you?

No, no. Your job is golden. We just killed off Charlemagne. Kassandra’s not going anywhere. This will be the easiest money you ever make. Just…lie back and relax.

Oh.

OK, rehearsal, everybody. Are we ready? And action.

Yes, I know. It’s terrible that Charlemagne plummeted to her death in an elevator shaft. But there’s more of that begonia serum there, isn’t there? Oh, yes, that’s right. Pineview hasn’t seen the last of Charlemagne de la Croix.

Cut.

Perfecto. Magnifique. Wunderbar.

Leo?

Hmm?

What the hell? My grandmother explicitly said this was a one-and-done. And I don’t think Hattie’s gonna be coming back.

Johnny, where is your sense of drama? Charlemagne has been back from the dead at least six times, seven if you count that alien abduction during the writers’ strike. Marlena may say that she is done, but this is Pineview. You never know. So now we have ourselves a little insurance policy, just in case.

OK, yeah. Steph, I’ll respect whatever you want. Where is this coming from?

Look, we agreed. We agreed that we weren’t going to sleep together again. And then we did. And then we did again.

[sighs]

Obviously, we both have conflicting feelings about it. And on top of that, we work together. And, Alex, it’s just– it’s too complicated. And what happened on that set, it was a mistake, a big mistake.

I admit it wasn’t the best idea. But I mean, Steph–

It doesn’t matter anymore anyway because it’s over, OK? Let’s just keep things professional.

OK, yeah, I–I get it. If that’s what you really want.

Yes, that is what I really want.

[sighs] [dramatic music]

So…[chuckles] Did I get the part?

[chuckles] I–I can’t tell you, because I have other people to see today. But we will reach out to you if we’re interested.

Oh. [chuckles] OK.

You may go.

Hey, DeMille, Chanel needs to see you in the hospital room set. She has a question about a scene.

Oh, but we’re not even shooting in there today.

She’s your wife. I don’t know.

OK.

Bed–bed head.

Oh, you mean morgue slab head. [sighs] And since my contract specifically states that I’m extremely claustrophobic, you might have warned me that I would be in that highly confined space for what seemed like an eternity for that last scene.

Oh, I don’t look at actors’ contracts.

Obviously not.

Ixnay on the urneygay.

What?

[clears throat]

Oh! Marlena. Great performance. Have I told you that?

You have.

Oh, yeah. Anyway, how’s Johnny doing? I hear it’s his birthday today?

Yes, it is. Paulina, how nice to see you.

Mayor Price, if you’re here for a doctor’s appointment, you have accidentally wandered into an imaginary land called Pineview.

I am here because Chanel was so busy rushing around this morning, she forgot to take this. And since I made the trip, I thought, you know, I’d give my best to my son-in-law and maybe have a piece of birthday cake.

Hmm. – Dr. Marlena Evans to Trauma . Dr. Marlena Evans to Trauma .

That is my alternate reality. So enjoy the party. And tell Johnny, if you would, that I’ll catch him later on.

We will.

So any progress with that PR snafu?

I’m not sure.

Hey, Faith. I was thinking we could run lines together, if that’s all right with you. Blake and Faith have a scene together tomorrow.

I’m sorry, I have no idea what you’re talking about.

Oh, man, that cake? Chanel, it looks amazing.

Mm-hmm. Red velvet, Johnny’s favorite.

Good work.

Thank you.

Oh, my God. Anyway, Leo is gonna be bringing Johnny in any minute. So you distract him while I go out there with everybody else. We’re gonna set up the party, all right?

All right, I will keep him in here, and I’ll keep him distracted. [door clicks open] And–

OK, good.

Johnny.

Hey. I’ll see you guys on set.

Happy birthday, my love.

What were– what were you and Alex doing in here–alone?

Oh, we–we were just running lines.

Would you stop lying to me already?

What would I be lying to you about?

Spare me the innocent denial, OK? I know you two were having sex in here!

Mom, this is my room. Did you forget?

The maid was cleaning mine.

Oh. Well, the audition went great. Thank you for asking.

Mm-hmm.

I just have to wait and hear back.

Oh. And you know what I’m waiting to hear? Whose wedding ring is this? [dramatic music]

[sighs]

I’m sorry, I don’t know what you’ve been told, but I’m not an actress. I’m actually–

All right, everybody, quiet down. Chanel is gonna be bringing the birthday boy any minute.

OK, everybody, time to get festive. Oh, here, you guys. Here’s two for you.

Thank you.

All righty. Now, Madam Mayor, I have one for you.

Oh, no, thanks.

Well, come on, Paulina. It’s a party. Let’s go, please.

Oh.

Grabbed one for you.

What are you talking about? My God, Johnny, why would you think that Alex and I are having sex?

‘Cause you liked it so much the first time.

Johnny, I have no idea what you’re talking about.

I saw you, Chanel, OK? I saw the two of you the other day in here, going at it.

OK, Johnny, this is crazy, OK? Alex and I would never–

I said I saw you, Chanel! And you’ve been lying to me ever since.

Johnny, Johnny, please, please listen to me, OK?

Why–why should I? It’s just gonna be more lies. Just like the day after I saw you with him, you told me you were going to the bakery. Well, I went there, and you were nowhere to be found.

I was running an errand.

Oh, at Alex’s apartment?

What?

Yeah, no, I heard you guys talking about how I was– I was never gonna find out, how clueless I am. I bet you guys had a nice big laugh about–about how– how stupid I am…

Oh, my God.

What a fool your husband is.

Johnny, this is not at all what you think.

No, it’s exactly what I think! OK? And don’t even bother trying to deny it. I–I refuse to believe another word that comes out of your mouth because you’re a cheating slut. Even now, you’re lying right to my face. I can’t believe it. I can’t even look at you.

What’s taking so long? all: Surprise!

Whoo-hoo! [laughs]

What–what is– what is this?

Happy birthday, Johnny boy. Are you surprised or what? You better be, buddy, because Chanel, your wife, did all of this for you, pal. [laughs]

Surprise.
