Days of Our Lives Update

Kayla sits at her desk in her office at the hospital and looks at a framed photo of her and Steve. Stephanie walks in with food and says she misses him too.

Steve goes to Marlena’s hotel room in Estonia. Steve tells Marlena that the ISA has been working through the night to try to decrypt the file they found. Marlena asks if they are closer to bringing John home.

Philip exits the Brady Pub and runs in to Alex. Philip tells Alex that he understands what he’s feeling. Alex promises that whatever he thinks he knows, it’s worse. Philip guesses Alex wishes he could be locked up which Alex says would be a start. Philip says he won’t defend what he did as he lied his way in to inheritance but it’s working out well. Alex argues that it’s working for him. Philip says it’s working for the whole family as they accomplished Victor’s dream of taking over DiMera. Philip states that Victor would be proud of them all which Alex questions.

Sarah enters the living room of the Kiriakis Mansion and asks if anyone’s home but no one answers. Sarah looks up at the portrait of Victor and says not to look at her like he never kept a secret from his family. Maggie then comes in and startles Sarah. Sarah comments on it being quiet in the house. Maggie informs her that she gave the staff the night off since it seems the trash took itself out which Sarah questions. Maggie clarifies that it looks like they have rid themselves of Vivian Alamain as she presents the letter she was left.

Xander finishes a call about new security measures, remarking that he can’t have just anyone wandering off the street in to his brand new office. Vivian then walks in to the office. Vivian remarks that one can never be too careful about who walks in to executive suites. Xander questions what she’s doing there. Vivian knows he’s going to have security throw her out, but she thinks he will want to hear what she has to say about his brother.

Steve tells Marlena that he’s sorry that the ISA have not been able to decrypt the file yet, but they do think they are close. Marlena complains about the nuclear bomb being out there and John being held hostage. Steve says he tried to get in to see Orpheus, but only his medical team have been allowed to see him since he was shot. Marlena argues that a psychiatrist could gain access to him.

Kayla asks if Stephanie just came to check on her and bring her lunch. Kayla questions what’s going on with her. Stephanie claims it’s nothing but then admits that she’s freaking out and needs her mom as Kayla hugs her.

Philip tells Alex that he thinks of all people, Victor would understand why he did what he did, pointing out that the ends are a big win for Titan. Philip says they only took over DiMera because he and Xander worked together. Alex blames it on what was going on with EJ and Kristen. Alex warns Philip that if the truth comes out, it will all come crashing down. Philip thanks Alex for not saying anything to Xander. Alex remarks that he didn’t do it for him, but to protect Xander.

Xander tells Vivian that he’s not in the mood for her games. Vivian says she’ll be quick, repeating that he will want to hear what she has to say. Vivian is sure he’s curious to know why Philip was so quick to invite her to stay in the mansion. Xander says he’s not curious but will never understand. Vivian informs Xander that she didn’t give Philip a choice.

Maggie tells Sarah that she’s so relieved that Vivian has left. Sarah questions if she said why she left. Maggie shows Sarah the letter that Vivian left and says she has no idea what it means and she doesn’t care, but she’s glad that Philip kicked her to the curb as she doesn’t know what possessed him to invite her to move in. Maggie doesn’t understand what kind of hold Vivian has on Philip. Sarah responds that she does.

Kayla asks Stephanie what it is. Stephanie explains that she found something out that she wasn’t supposed to know and she told someone else about it and now she’s forcing him to keep the secret too. Kayla guesses that’s Alex. Stephanie confirms that they are now both in this mess.

Philip didn’t realize Alex and Xander were so close. Alex feels he owes him one since he was duped by Theresa and now Philip wants him to see it happen all over again. Alex notes that Stephanie told him it was his call on whether or not to expose him. Philip asks what he decided. Alex informs him that he won’t say anything because their family has too much at stake now. Alex says that Titan has everything invested in the takeover so shaking up the corporate structure could put everything at risk. Philip insists that he’s making the right decision. Alex says they’ll see but warns that he won’t protect Philip forever, so there will come a day where it’s safe to tell Xander the truth about what he did and expose Philip for the lying con artist he is. Alex adds that whether Philip chooses to tell Xander first is up to him. Alex then walks away.

Maggie asks if Sarah knows something about what’s going on between Philip and Vivian. Sarah tells her to just forget she said anything. Maggie questions why Sarah said she knew why Philip is so loyal to Vivian. Sarah remarks that they are just alike and you can’t trust either of them. Maggie responds that Philip is not like Vivian as he is Victor’s son. Sarah clarifies that she’s not saying Philip isn’t part of the family or not to care about him, but brings up all the damage that he’s done and that she’s allowed him to do. Maggie questions what it is as she can tell Sarah looks like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders lately. Sarah tells her that she has no idea. Maggie insists that she can trust her. Sarah says she just doesn’t want to burden her with it. Maggie wants to help her and asks what has her upset. Sarah reveals that she’s keeping a huge secret from Xander that could change his life. Maggie asks what the secret is. Sarah reminds Maggie of the letter that Victor wrote, naming Philip as his heir, and reveals that it’s fake and that Philip forged it with Vivian’s help, leaving Maggie shocked.

Xander tells Vivian that he’s not surprised that she’s blackmailing Philip. Vivian calls it having leverage. Xander guesses she’s lording something over him and bets he knows what it is. Xander worries that Philip is still carrying on with Stephanie and making a fool of Alex again. Vivian tells Xander that he still doesn’t get it as that was a cover story for something worse. Vivian declares that Philip isn’t making a fool out of Alex, but out of Xander.

Steve and Marlena dress as medical staff to get in to see Orpheus in his hospital bed. Orpheus guesses they want his help in finding John, but questions why he would lift a finger. Marlena tells Orpheus that he’s free to help John or not, but she knows how much he loves his children and grandchildren. Orpheus asks what they have to do with this. Steve asks if he doesn’t think they would be affected by a rogue nuclear weapon being detonated somewhere. Marlena agrees that it will affect his family. Orpheus then says that he will tell them what they want to know, but he wants something in return. Steve refuses to cut a deal with him. Orpheus says he’s not seeking immunity, he just needs help for his son Christian who is having custody issues and he just wants his son to be able to see his kid. Orpheus feels a good word from Marlena could go a long way. Marlena agrees to write him a letter. Steve asks Orpheus what rosebud is. Orpheus reveals it’s the codename for a black market arms exchange across the border to sell the nuclear bomb. Orpheus warns that anyone willing to pay for that is willing to use it. Steve asks for the coordinates. Orpheus says his only contact was strictly through intermediaries. Marlena says they can start on the border. Steve calls it better than nothing and says they will go. Orpheus stops them and asks Marlena to promise to keep her word about helping his son. Marlena and Steve then exit.

Kayla says that obviously keeping this secret is tearing Stephanie apart. Stephanie points out that a lot of people could get hurt if the truth came out. Kayla asks if she’s protecting people. Stephanie says she could be making it worse and worries that her conscience is telling her that keeping the secret is hurting people, so Kayla encourages her to follow her conscience.

Maggie is shocked to learn of the forged letter as Sarah apologizes for keeping it from her. Maggie says she’s not the one who forged it, that was Philip and Vivian. Sarah explains that they wanted to take everything from Xander but luckily the judge only awarded Philip half of Titan. Maggie questions why Sarah kept it quiet that Philip has conned Xander out of half of his birth right. Sarah explains that she didn’t know until the judge gave Philip half of the company and when she found out, she was furious but she kept quiet because she was also afraid of what Xander might do to Philip if he found out. Sarah points out that Xander had already pulled a gun on Philip, so she was afraid that he would hurt his brother or worse if he found out and she couldn’t bear the thought of Xander being taken away from her and Victoria again when they just got a chance to finally be happy. Maggie calls it a terrible secret that she had to keep. Sarah adds that she saw Xander and Philip working together and finally getting along, so she convinced herself that Victor would be happy with his two sons as a team. Maggie asks if she’s second guessing herself. Sarah is not sure if she’s keeping the secret because she genuinely thinks it’s best for Xander or that she’s afraid to admit that she lied to him too. Maggie is sorry she had to go through this alone. Sarah guesses that Maggie will encourage her to tell Xander the truth, no matter what it costs her.

Xander asks Vivian what the hell she’s talking about and how Philip is making a fool out of him. Vivian asks if she really has to explain it and guesses that Xander must have been humiliated when he found out he had to share Titan with Philip. Xander argues that she’s behind on the times as Victor’s letter turned in to the best thing to happen to Titan. Xander admits he wasn’t thrilled at first, but he couldn’t be more pleased since they turned out to be a great team. Vivian calls their bond a lie. Xander says she’s just being cynical while he and Philip have never been closer and their bond is genuine. Vivian then reveals to Xander that Victor didn’t write the letter, she did.

Maggie sits with Sarah and says in most circumstances, she believes honesty is the best policy but what Sarah did was to keep Xander from self destructing. Maggie knows it was to protect her husband and family. Sarah thanks her for understanding. Maggie says there’s been a lot of chaos since Victor died. Sarah asks what she thinks Victor would have wanted. Maggie responds that Victor loved Philip and Xander in his own way, so the truth is that he would’ve wanted Philip in his will but he couldn’t give him anything without revealing that Philip was still alive. Sarah points out that now Xander and Philip are living in the house and running the company together as a team like true brothers. Maggie admits that not much put a smile on Victor’s face, but she thinks he would’ve liked this. Sarah asks even if it’s based on a lie. Maggie calls it impossible to say, but she can’t deny that a lot of good has come out of this lie. Maggie says she could argue that Sarah confessing to Xander would only make herself feel better by telling the truth and clearing her conscience. Maggie worries that it might destroy the family unity and her marriage as well.

Xander accuses Vivian of lying. Vivian assures that she forged the letter. Xander guesses that she wanted Philip to get the inheritance so she would profit as well. Xander doesn’t believe her and thinks Vivian is trying to screw with everyone like Theresa did. Vivian mocks him being in denial. Xander insists that he doesn’t believe a word out of her mouth. Vivian says he may not believe what he’s hearing, but he will believe what he sees as she writes Victor’s signature and shows it to him.

Steve and Marlena return to the hotel room in Estonia as Steve finishes a call with Andrew, catching him up on what they learned about the black market. Steve tells Marlena that Andrew thinks they are this close to breaking the encryption on the file. Steve then informs Marlena that he’s afraid this is the end of the road for them as that’s ISA orders. Marlena argues that they haven’t followed ISA orders since getting to Estonia. Steve says following leads on John was one thing but infiltrating black markets, they have to leave to the pros. Marlena argues that Steve is a pro but Steve says it’s an undercover operation and he can’t risk being recognized. Steve hates to admit he can’t do something and he wants to be the first man to find John, but they need to step back. Marlena questions going home and just waiting for the phone to ring in hopes that John will be alright. Marlena argues that all they have to do is bring John home. Marlena says she hates this, but she trusts Steve. Steve tells Marlena to pack her bag and he will charter them a flight back to Salem. Steve adds that he believes in his heart that Andrew will bring John home. Steve says he will get his things, call Kayla, and let Marlena know when he’s made their travel arrangements. Steve then exits the room. Marlena turns around and finds something on her bag.

Steve calls Kayla and tells her that they are coming home.

Marlena approaches the bag with a note that has her name on it.

Kayla asks Steve if they found John. Steve says not yet, but they found enough to let the ISA take it from here.

Marlena opens the note that says if she wants to see John alive, to come back and come alone.

Kayla cannot wait to have Steve back in her arms. Kayla says it must be killing him to have to come home before it’s over. Steve admits he’s disappointed to not be in charge of the operation but it’s not what is best for their family. Kayla admits she’s relieved as she wants John home but she also wants Steve back by her side. Steve says Marlena will need them more than ever. Kayla assures they will be there for her. Steve says he will let Kayla know when they are taking off. Kayla sends her love to Marlena and says she loves Steve as they hang up. After Steve walks away, Marlena then comes out of her room.

Alex and Stephanie meet in the town square and agree that they should keep the secret for now. Stephanie is surprised as Alex explains that he just ran in to Philip and he wanted to knock him out but he thinks it’s best for now if they keep it a secret. Stephanie worries about how it will make Alex feel but he assures he can handle it for now. Stephanie is sorry that she got Alex in to this mess as she thought it would be over when she first told Sarah.

Sarah admits to Maggie that telling Xander would clear her conscience but others would benefit too. Maggie asks if she means because Xander would get the whole company. Sarah says she means Alex and Stephanie because they are keeping the secret too. Sarah explains that she convinced them to keep it to themselves for the sake of the family, but Alex is furious and she’s pretty sure she ruined her relationship with Stephanie. Maggie is pretty sure Alex hates Philip now, but not as much as Xander would hate both if he found out. Sarah agrees that all the brotherly love would just go to Hell. Maggie wishes she could tell her what to do. Maggie assures that she loves her no matter what she decides as they hug.

Xander argues that Vivian’s signature proves nothing. Vivian then recites the letter to Xander. Xander thinks she’s just paraphrasing it. Vivian insists that she knows it by heart because she wrote many copies until she decided it was believable. Xander argues that this can’t be true but Vivian says he knows it is. Xander complains that it doesn’t make any sense and asks why Vivian would throw away the con by telling him. Vivian argues that she was supposed to get half the fortune, not Xander. Xander guesses that Philip didn’t keep up his end of the bargain. Vivian confirms that she wants Philip to lose everything. Xander threatens to call the cops to send her back to prison. Vivian asks why he would do that when it was Philip who stabbed him in the back. Vivian then walks out of the office.

Marlena goes back to see Orpheus, who guesses she got his note. Marlena asks what he wants. Orpheus responds that he wants to be honest with her because of their history. Orpheus reveals that what he told Steve about rosebud isn’t true as he made up the whole thing. Marlena says she’s not surprised. Orpheus says he’s sorry but he doesn’t trust Steve like he trusts Marlena. Marlena asks what is the truth then. Orpheus reveals that he knows where John is and he can take her to him, but all she has to do is get him out of here.

Alex tells Stephanie that with all the guilt he feels for keeping the truth, the less he sees Xander the better. Alex invites Stephanie to lunch instead of going to the office. Stephanie mentions that she had lunch with Kayla but she will go to keep him company. Stephanie and Alex then walk off together while Philip walks in to the town square and runs in to Vivian. Philip hopes she’s moving her things in to the Salem Inn but Vivian reveals that she just came back from DiMera Enterprises. Philip questions what she was doing there. Vivian claims she was admiring his office but warns him not to get used to it because his brother is a little upset with him.

Sarah remains in the living room, staring up at the portrait of Victor. Sarah comments that everyone in the house seems to come to him for advice which is unhinged because he had terrible judgment and caused all kinds of misery. Sarah states that Maggie doesn’t have any answers, so she asks Victor if she’s doing the right thing by keeping this from her husband. Xander then walks in and pours a drink. Sarah asks him what’s wrong. Xander responds that he doesn’t want to believe it, but he thinks he was just betrayed in the worst possible way.

Marlena tells Orpheus to go to Hell. Orpheus argues that she will regret that decision. Marlena knows Orpheus is lying because he would never take her to see John. Orpheus questions her not believing him. Steve then returns and tells Orpheus that it turns out they don’t need his lying ass anyway because the ISA decrypted the file they found. Orpheus accuses them of bluffing. Steve thinks back to Marlena showing him the note from Orpheus and talking about him thinking she would fall for it while they knew Orpheus was lying and that Rosebud was just a sled. Steve tells Marlena that the car is downstairs and they’re going home. Orpheus complains that they are making a mistake and if they don’t get him out, they’ll never see John again. Marlena responds that she has faith that she will see John again, but hopefully she will never see Orpheus again. Orpheus calls out to Marlena not to go but she exits with Steve.

Philip is at the Kiriakis Mansion, on the phone with Melinda Trask. Philip tells her that he is backing Xander in his decision to fire her. When Melinda threatens to sue, Philip warns that they would countersue and hangs up. Maggie then comes home and comments that she missed a lot while she was out of town. Philip guesses she heard about Titan taking over DiMera. Maggie confirms that it was all over the news. Maggie congratulates Philip and tells him that Victor would be so proud as she hugs him.

At the DiMera office, Kristen questions what the hell Xander is trying to pull here and how he managed to take over DiMera. Xander calls it a no brainer with Kristen in custody and EJ in a coma, so they saw it as a window of opportunity and seized it. Kristen responds that she has a window of opportunity too as she pulls her gun on Xander. Xander asks what the hell she’s doing. Kristen responds that she was just released from police custody because the bullet out of EJ didn’t match this gun, but it’s not too late to put the gun to good use.

At the police station, JJ informs Gabi that there’s now one fewer suspect as Kristen has been cleared which surprises Gabi. JJ says that means they have to start looking at other suspects. Gabi questions what she’s doing here then. JJ then reveals that she’s one of the suspects. Gabi asks who says and then questions if JJ thinks she shot EJ.

AT the Brady Pub, Kate calls Lucas and tells him that he can come out in the world again because EJ was shot. Kate adds that if EJ dies, Lucas would be safe. Kate assures that she did not shoot EJ and tells Lucas that she will see him soon as she hangs up. Sami then appears as she and Kate get an argument over Lucas kidnapping her. Kate insists that Lucas still feels terrible about it. Sami says she feels terrible about things too like choosing the wrong men. Sami asks about things going well between Roman and Kate. Kate responds that Roman showed her what love is supposed to be. Sami says that she’s happy for them but jokes that if she hurts him, she’ll have to kill her. Kate says not if she shoots her first which Sami laughs at.

Rafe meets Jada at Small Bar. Jada is surprised that he came and says she knows how upset he still is over what happened between her and Shawn. Rafe responds that it’s not just that, but that she’s still sleeping with Shawn. Jada asks what he’s talking about. Rafe informs her that he stopped by Shawn’s house last night. Jada says that Shawn told her they were talking things out and then he left. Rafe reveals that he left because he found Jada’s blouse that she was wearing the night before. Rafe asks if he should have stayed and gotten in the middle of their affair. Jada tells Rafe that he’s got this all wrong.

Gabi tells JJ that he couldn’t be more wrong and asks why the hell he would think she shot EJ. JJ reminds her that she almost did it once before when she burst in with Rafe’s weapon. JJ feels it was only him that stopped her from shooting EJ right then and asks if she can deny that.

Xander argues that Kristen won’t shoot him. Kristen asks how he can be so sure. Kristen complains about how hard she worked to claw her way to the top of DiMera and how she fought them all until she won, only to be unseated by her former incompetent henchman. Kristen declares that she can’t stand this and she won’t. Xander says they can talk it out. Kristen tells him that he’s going to listen because the only way he’s not going to die right now is to do exactly as she says.

Maggie tells Philip that she knows he and Xander had big plans for Titan but this is an achievement to take over DiMera. Maggie thinks they should all go out to lunch and celebrate if he’s not too busy running the world. Philip says there is something she needs to know first as Vivian then comes in, asking what’s for breakfast.

Kate tells Sami that there was a long line of men who treated her very poorly, so she completely understands as they sit together. Sami assures that she is really happy for her and Roman. Kate thanks her and says they feel really badly that they are the ones who revealed the truth about Johnny’s conception. Sami believes the truth needed to come out so she’s not mad at either of them. Kate asks if she’s sure since she didn’t want to have dinner with them and didn’t come back to the Pub last night. Sami assures that had nothing to do with her. Kate asks if Sami stayed with Marlena then. Sami then reveals that she stayed with Rafe.

Rafe asks Jada not to lie to him. Jada assures that she’s not lying to him. Jada says that Rafe made it very clear that he did not want her going home with him, so she came to the bar and got pretty wasted while Shawn just happened to find her to tell her about EJ’s shooting. Jada admits she was in no condition to drive, so Shawn suggested she sleep it off. Rafe mocks the idea of Shawn escorting her back to his place. Jada says it was too late to call Stephanie, so she ended up crashing on Shawn’s couch but nothing happened after that one night with him when she thought Rafe left her at the altar. Jada asks if Rafe believes that she’s telling the truth.

Gabi tells JJ that when she went to EJ’s house with Rafe’s gun, she was just desperate to find Rafe and EJ had the answers she needed. Gabi asks what she would have gained from shooting EJ then or now. JJ thinks it would’ve been revenge for what EJ did to Rafe and all of the other horrible things he did to hurt her, like causing her marriage with Stefan to fall apart. Gabi shouts that this is crazy and he knows it. Gabi complains that if he hauled in every person to ever hold a grudge against EJ or pointed a gun at him, he’d be there until Hell freezes over. Gabi reminds JJ that she went to prison for a crime she did not commit more than once. Gabi questions if he really thinks she’d be stupid enough to get sent back there. JJ tells Gabi to just answer one question and they will be done. JJ then asks if she has an alibi for the night EJ was shot.

Xander asks Kristen what she wants him to do. Kristen orders him to pick up the phone to call Wei Shin and tell him that he changed his mind about taking over DiMera and he wants to put her back in charge, effective immediately. Xander picks up the phone but puts it back down and refuses to make that call.

Maggie asks what the hell Vivian is doing there. Maggie guesses she broke out of prison but Philip informs her that she’s out on parole. Maggie questions him knowing that she was there. Vivian adds that Philip invited her to stay. Philip apologizes and says she wouldn’t take no for an answer. Maggie questions Vivian spending the night in her home. Maggie tells Philip that it may be a very large house but it’s not big enough for her and Vivian. Vivian tells Maggie there’s the door. Maggie says she’s not going anywhere but upstairs and warns that Vivian better be gone by the time she comes back. Maggie then exits.

Gabi tells JJ that she had a long day at the office and then she went home. JJ asks if she’s sure she didn’t go anywhere else. Gabi responds that she is and questions why he’s looking at her like that. JJ then reveals that on the night of the shooting, he stopped by her house to see her and knocked on the door but no one was there. Gabi says she must have been asleep. JJ says she wasn’t, so Gabi asks if he’s calling her a liar. JJ tells her that he’s sorry, but he is.

Rafe questions Jada telling him that she just crashed at Shawn’s house and nothing happened. Jada confirms that’s exactly what she’s telling him. Rafe tells Jada that he believes her. Rafe brings up that Shawn never told him that she spent the night. Jada explains that Shawn was afraid he would be upset. Rafe still wishes he would have because he just told him that they were only together the one time and then he found her blouse, so naturally he thought Shawn was lying. Rafe wishes he would’ve stayed to confront him instead of jumping to the wrong conclusion.

Kate questions Sami spending the night at Rafe’s. Sami explains that she went to thank him for speaking with Johnny and helping him understand the situation. Kate thinks it’s wonderful that Johnny has someone like Rafe in his life and calls him one of the good guys. Kate thinks it’s nice that Sami and Rafe are still friends so she can lean on him in times like this. Sami agrees that it’s really nice to have a friend like Rafe.

Vivian doesn’t understand how Philip puts up with Maggie and calls her so rude. Vivian declares that she’s not going anywhere unless Philip wants to be out on his ass. Philip guesses she’s going to threaten to take Titan away from him. Vivian says she would never do that as long as she gets her share when Kate murders Xander.

Kristen questions Xander saying no to her and threatens to send him to Hell. Xander asks if she really wants to go back to prison. Kristen argues that she has nothing left to lose as she lost her job, her mother, and Brady. Xander brings up her daughter Rachel and asks if she really wants to risk losing her when she’s already lost so much time with her already. Kristen blames that on his lies. Xander tells Kristen that she can’t let her down. Xander says he didn’t grow up in a home with a loving mother, but Rachel has that and deserves to keep it. Kristen agrees that he’s right and lowers her gun.

JJ reminds Gabi that he ran in to her that night in the town square. Gabi says she remembers that. JJ points out that means she did leave the house and asks where she went. Gabi thinks back to being outside the DiMera Mansion with a gun. Gabi claims to JJ that she was home getting ready for bed when she remembered that she left her planner in the town square and that’s when she ran in to him. Gabi insists that she went right back home and went to bed. Gabi argues that every piece of evidence that JJ is trying to use against her is based on knowledge of their personal relationship. Gabi asks if JJ made a personal statement and if the other cops know he brought in his most recent conquest for questioning. JJ responds that he hates this but it’s his job and the truth is that she had motive, opportunity, access to a weapon, and she doesn’t have an alibi. JJ tells Gabi that he’s sorry but it doesn’t look good.

Xander tells Kristen to get the hell out before he calls the cops. Kristen argues that they can negotitate. Kristen says she knows the company and he wants the takeover to be successful. Kristen argues that Wei Shin has no business running DiMera but she does. Kristen says they can work their magic on the Titan side while she continues to run the successful operations at DiMera and it would be a mutually beneficial partnership. Kristen argues that Xander knows they would be better together.

Philip tells Vivian that she will get her half of his half as they discussed. Vivian argues that she never agreed to half of half but half of the fortune. Philip says Belle did her best for him in court but that ship sailed. Philip says she’s only been out of prison for a couple of days, so he can’t just snap his fingers as he has to liquidate accounts and the takeover complicates that. Vivian accuses him of making excuses. Philip tells Vivian that no one is going to be killing Xander, so Vivian guesses she will have to blow open the whole scam. Philip argues that she wouldn’t because if she tells anyone about the forgery, she’ll get nothing and go down for fraud so he doesn’t think she wants to go back to prison. Vivian asks if he’s threatening her. Philip says he’s just saying that she’s not the one calling the shots here. Vivian argues that this whole thing was her idea and accuses him of trying to freeze her out now. Philip swears that he’s not and asks to be patient a little longer. Vivian complains that patience is not her strong suit.

Rafe tells Jada that he’s sorry as now he’s the one asking for understanding. Jada says he’s scaring her and asks what he needs understanding for. Rafe informs Jada that after he left Shawn’s last night, he went home and Sami was at his door. Jada questions Sami being in town. Rafe explains that she came to thank him for helping put in a good word for her with Johnny and calls it a long story. Jada asks what any of this has to do with her. Rafe explains that Sami was in a bad place and he was too. Rafe then admits that he and Sami slept together.

Kate tells Sami that she’s not jumping to conclusions about what did or didn’t happen between her and Rafe last night, but reminds her about Jada. Sami says she heard about Jada but she wouldn’t put money on that engagement working out. Kate knew they were having problems because of the Arnold debacle but she thought they were working through it. Sami says that’s not what she observed as Rafe went ballistic when he found out that Jada slept with Shawn. Kate didn’t know but says she’s not going to tell anyone. Kate wonders if Rafe knew about that before or after EJ was shot. Sami asks why that matters and questions if Kate thinks Rafe shot EJ. Kate says after what EJ did to Rafe and Jada. Kate knows if EJ hurt one of her loved ones, she would make sure he paid. Sami argues that she can’t seriously think that Rafe shot EJ. Kate says it doesn’t matter now since Kristen is under suspicion since they found a gun in her purse and were testing the bullet. Sami hopes it is a match and brings up how upset Johnny was at EJ so it got her thinking. Sami says Rafe assured her against it but she wonders if Johnny could’ve been the one to shoot EJ. Kate agrees with Rafe that Johnny was very angry at EJ, but she does not think he would go to that extreme so she does not think Johnny is the guilty party.

Jada questions Rafe sleeping with Sami. Rafe explains that he thought Jada was sleeping with Shawn. Jada says she wasn’t. Rafe says he knows that now and he’s so sorry. Rafe calls it a huge misunderstanding. Jada compares it to when she thought he was cheating on her and he said he could never forgive her. Rafe says he was angry in the moment but he’s been talking to Gabi and Javi and he’s starting to come around. Jada complains that he decided off a t-shirt that she’s just a lying, cheating slut. Rafe argues that she and Shawn have history. Rafe tells Jada that he loves her and he’s so sorry about what happened with Sami. Rafe knows Jada is sorry about what happened with Shawn and neither one of them meant to. Jada questions Rafe wanting to just move on. Jada says she told Rafe that she and Shawn were together one time and she didn’t want him because she loved Rafe and only Rafe. Jada says she told him the truth but he still went and thought the worst of her. Jada questions how to forgive that after the way he betrayed her and how they move on from this.

Vivian tells Philip that she’s been patient long enough. Philip promises it will only be a short while more. Philip says he’s not ungrateful for her and when he has the funds to do it, he’ll buy her a mansion in Salem. Vivian questions him throwing her out. Philip says it’s for the best and offers to drive her to the Salem Inn but Vivian rejects him and declares she’ll get there on her own and storms out.

Xander questions Kristen wanting to be business partner. Kristen says the pros outweight the cons for both of them. Xander remarks that he wouldn’t get in bed with a snake like her. Kristen reminds him that Sarah would still be paralyzed if it wasn’t for her. Xander argues that she only relented because Brady forced her too. Kristen argues that no one forces her to do anything and says it was the right thing to do. Xander tells Kristen that he does not want to be her business partner. Kristen warns that they are enemies now and vows to wrestle DiMera back from him and take Titan too, leaving Xander and Philip as the ones winding up with nothing. Xander says they will see about that. Xander hands Kristen her old CEO nameplate and tells her to throw it in the trash on her way out as he demands she get out. Kristen then exits the office.

Rafe argues that Jada thought the worst of him when she thought he was some evil bastard out to ruin her life. Jada complains that Gabi and Javi thought that too since Arnold had his face and voice. Jada says everyone who knew Rafe thought Arnold was him when he said he didn’t love her anymore. Jada complains that Rafe just found a damn blouse. Jada declares that Rafe wanted his space and now she needs her space as she then storms out of the bar.

Sami walks through the town square on a phone call with Marlena. Sami knows she will find John and bring him home safe. Sami says she loves her too and hangs up. Sami then runs in to Kristen, surprised to see she is free. Kristen questions how long Sami is in town for. Sami calls it a short visit and thought Kristen was being held for suspicion. Kristen reveals that the bullet didn’t match her gun and assures that she did not shoot her brother. Kristen adds that her money is on Gabi.

Gabi tells JJ that what doesn’t look good is that the man she’s dating is treating her like a common criminal. Gabi thought he was supposed to be protecting her, that he cared about her, and that she could trust him. JJ argues that this has nothing to do with their personal relationship as it’s just business. Gabi tells JJ that she gets that he has a job to do but if he has anything more to say to her, he can say it through her lawyer because she’s done talking to him and she has nothing more to say to him. Gabi then storms out of the interrogation room.

Maggie returns to the living room and finds a note written by Vivian, saying farewell to Maggie and that Philip made her realize there was only one thing for her to do. Maggie then trashes the letter.

Philiip goes to the Brady Pub and tells Kate that he has good news about Vivian which Kate calls impossible. Philip informs her that Vivian is headed to the Salem Inn because she realized she could end up with nothing, but they are going to have to stop stalling and pay her. Kate wishes that would make her go away. Philip wants to stay positive and says everything is going to be fine.

Xander finishes a call about new security measures, remarking that he can’t have just anyone wandering off the street in to his brand new office. Vivian then walks in to the office.

Kristen wakes up in the interrogation room to Melinda bringing her coffee and a scone from the Bakery. Kristen complains of being held overnight and tells Melinda that she’s grateful for her but she really wants to know if there’s any news. Melinda informs Kristen that she does have news, but she’s not going to like it.

Leo and Gabi have breakfast at the Hernandez home. Leo asks her for the syrup but Gabi refuses since she bought it. Leo says he will control his rage within and let that slide. Leo remarks that he knows Gabi is just lashing out because she’s soon to be out of a job.

Stephanie is at home with Jada, reading the article on Titan taking over DiMera. Stephanie says she doesn’t get how Alex’s cousins pulled this off as she shows the article to Jada. Jada remarks that you can’t call it a slow news week. Stephanie says if she was still doing PR for Titan, she’d be up to her neck in e-mails and texts but instead, she gets to chill out and enjoy her coffee. Stephanie comments that she doesn’t know how Jada makes the coffee ten times better than she does. Jada reveals her secret ingredient is cinnamon. Jada thanks Stephanie for letting her crash again after Rafe recently kicked her out. Jada adds that she doesn’t want to make Rafe more angry at her than he already is by staying at Shawn’s. Jada doesn’t think Rafe would appreciate it if he found out that she spent the night with Shawn again.

Javi goes to wake up Rafe but is shocked to find Rafe in bed with Sami. Javi covers his eyes and says he didn’t know they were getting busy. Rafe says it’s okay and introduces Sami to his cousin Javi and Javi to his ex-wife, Sami. Javi remains stunned while Rafe and Sami laugh about it. Javi tells Sami that it’s nice to meet her and that he’s heard a lot about her. Sami jokes that she’s sure it’s all terrible but Javi assures it was all good things. Javi says he didn’t mean to intrude and just wanted them know that he made waffles and that there’s plenty. Javi then guesses Rafe didn’t work things out with Jada which Rafe confirms. Javi tries to form a question which Sami completes for him, guessing that Javi wants to know if Rafe slept with her to get back at Jada for sleeping with her sister’s ex. Javi is surprised to learn that Shawn is Sami’s sister’s ex. Sami adds that Shawn is also her cousin and calls it very complicated. Sami suggests Rafe resolve this with Javi. Javi reminds Rafe that Jada sleeping with Shawn was just a mistake. Rafe responds that it’s a mistake that she keeps on making because Jada and Shawn are still sleeping together.

Stephanie asks Jada if she made any in roads with Rafe after telling him what happened with Shawn. Jada says unfortunately no and that Rafe went to Shawn’s last night. Jada adds that Shawn thought he was getting through to Rafe but then he had to take a phone call and Rafe just left. Jada says Rafe is obviously still very angry and hurt by her and Shawn, so she gets it. Jada doesn’t know how she’s going to convince Rafe that she still loves him with all of her heart and that whatever happened with her and Shawn was just a mistake that will never happen again.

Shawn joins JJ at the police station. JJ mentions getting him coffee from the Bakery while they work on EJ’s case. Shawn thanks him and informs JJ that he just got back from ballistics. JJ asks if the bullet matches Kristen’s gun. Shawn confirms the results are in but he hasn’t looked at them yet. JJ calls it the moment of truth as they open the results.

Stephanie encourages Jada not to give up hope and that Rafe just needs time to make peace with what happened between her and Shawn. Stephanie says that right now, Rafe is not thinking straight and compares it to how Jada felt when she thought Rafe had cheated on her. Jada says she was devastated as if everything between her and Rafe was a lie which is how she ended up sleeping with Shawn in the first place. Stephanie tells her to imagine that’s how Rafe is feeling now. Jada knows she’s trying to make her feel better but it’s not really working. Stephanie says her point is that Rafe is not getting over this easily because he’s so madly in love with her that he can’t stand the idea of her being with another man. Stephanie adds that because Rafe loves her so much, he’s going to come around eventually. Jada really wants to believe that. Stephanie tells her to trust her.

Sami suggests she should go and leave Rafe to talk with Javi. Rafe tells Sami to stay. Javi says he’s going to the kitchen and hurries out. Sami laughs while Rafe says he’s so sorry about that. Sami calls it amazing that she got walked in on and didn’t have to hide or feel bad because she’s not doing anything wrong. Rafe assures Sami that he did not sleep with her to get back at Jada. Sami acknowledges that they both had a rough day and she needed a distraction. Sami tells Rafe that she knows him and the situation might be hard for him, so she does not want him to feel guilty. Rafe responds that he felt a lot of things, but guilt was not one of them. Sami guesses that settles that then as they resume kissing.

Gabi questions why Leo would think she’s about to lose her job. Leo shows the article on Titan taking over DiMera and says word on the street is that Xander and Philip are looking to clean house and he doesn’t think they will want to keep her in the mix. Gabi informs him that they told her themselves that they want to keep Gabi Chic and plan to open several outlets across Europe. Leo guesses that she tried to walk away with Gabi Chic but they wouldn’t let her because they are both quoted to staying in the Gabi Chic business, but she’s not mentioned. Leo compares it to a past breakup he had and predicts that Xander and Philip will dump Gabi the first chance they get. Gabi thinks they are going to have trouble touting Gabi Chic’s success without keeping it’s namesake. Leo tells Gabi that it could be worse, as she could be Kristen who is losing her job and is under suspicion for attempted murder.

Melinda shows Kristen the news on Titan taking over DiMera. Kristen says this can’t be true but Melinda confirms that Philip and Xander pulled it off while she was locked up to oust her as CEO. Kristen can’t believe it and calls them vile backstabbers. Kristen complains that on top of being accused of attempted murder of her own brother, she has to deal with this. Kristen asks why she is being unfairly accused and questions why Melinda hasn’t gotten her out yet. Melinda reminds her that federal law states that they can hold her for 24 hours while they wait for the ballistic report on her gun. Kristen complains that they will take up every last minute and asks how long it takes to prove whether or not she shot EJ. Shawn and JJ then come in with the results.

Leo brings up when he ran in to Gabi in the town square the other night and she gave him an earful about how much she hates EJ. Leo admits that he thought maybe she shot EJ but he doesn’t think she’d be very good at hiding it. Leo guesses now that Kristen is in custody, the theory that Gabi shot EJ is out the window. Javi comes in and greets Leo, who asks how it’s going. Leo thought Javi was going to entice Rafe to join them for waffles and asks where he is. Javi responds that he thinks there going to need a bigger waffle iron.

Rafe asks Sami now what. Sami responds that now she goes back home to Italy because that’s where her life and work is. Sami tells Rafe that it’s really beautiful there and invites him to come with her. Rafe responds that he can’t because his life is here and things that he has to take care of. Rafe feels Sami only asked him because she knew he would say no. Sami knows there is one compelling reason for them not to get back together. Rafe asks if she’s saying the sex is better when they aren’t together. Sami jokes about when they fight. Sami tells Rafe that he means so much to her. Rafe responds that she means the world to him and kisses her until Sami reminds him that they are getting up for waffles.

Jada asks if Stephanie really thinks Rafe will get past this. Stephanie assures that right now, Rafe is hurting badly but he’ll have to have a chance to calm down. Jada questions if all will be forgiven. Stephanie calls Rafe a good man who is emotionally intelligent. Jada feels he was until now. Stephanie believes that when the sting wears off, he will get his emotional intelligence back and realize that Jada only slept with Shawn because of the Arnold Feniger mess that was out of her control. Stephanie insists that deep down, Rafe knows that and the two of them will find their way back to each other. Jada prays that she’s right.

Kristen asks what the report says. Shawn reveals that the bullet removed from EJ suffered a lot of damage during surgery. Melinda points out that sometimes, surgical tools can compromise the bullet or if it hit bones. JJ says the point is, it makes it harder to determine if the bullet came from a specific gun. Shawn then announces that the bullet did not match Kristen’s gun, so Melinda decides they no longer have any reason to suspect Kristen in the shooting of EJ. Kristen declares that she can go and she’s in the clear then, but JJ says not necessarily which Kristen questions. Melinda asks how they can still possibly suspect Kristen in shooting EJ. JJ argues that just because she didn’t use this gun doesn’t mean she didn’t shoot him as she could have easily used another weapon. Shawn asks if it’s really that hard to believe that Kristen has access to another firearm. Melinda mocks them and insists they are done here. Shawn decides Kristen is free to go but advises her not to leave town. Kristen responds that she won’t because she now has to wrestle her company back from Philip and Xander. Kristen adds that she would like her gun back because it’s all she has left of her mother. Shawn guesses it is no longer evidence, so JJ hands the gun back to her. Kristen then exits with Melinda.

Gabi questions Rafe being in bed with somebody. Javi responds that it was his ex-wife. Leo thinks he means Hope, but remembers Hope is at Bo’s bedside, so he guesses it’s Nicole. Gabi reminds him that Nicole is in Paris with Eric and their baby. Leo talks about wishing he was in Paris. Gabi tells Leo to shut up so Javi can tell them who Rafe was with. Leo realizes that only leaves one person who hates his guts. Sami then comes from Rafe’s room and greets Leo.

Jada agrees with Stephanie that Rafe is a good man who is emotionally intelligent, so if anyone can get over what happened, it’s him. Jada wishes time could speed up so they could get back to the way things were. Stephanie encourages Jada to take the initiative. Jada reminds her that Rafe kicked her out of the house and expressed zero interest in talking to her. Stephanie points out that was when Rafe first found out and that she said Shawn thought he was getting through to him. Jada reminds her that Rafe left Shawn’s place without saying a word. Stephanie suggests he could have had a work emergency, relating to Steve doing the same. Jada feels it still doesn’t prove that Rafe wants to talk to her. Stephanie encourages her pressuring Rafe in to it a little bit. Jada thinks it’s best if she gives Rafe space and respect his boundaries. Stephanie points out that the silence is driving her crazy and suggests she just text Rafe because for all she knows, he’s been wanting her to reach out.

Rafe gets dressed in his room and gets a text from Jada, asking him to meet her at Small Bar because she’d really like to talk.

Gabi calls it a pleasant surprise to see Sami, who says it’s nice to see her too. Sami talks about a recent video chat with Arianna and hopes she can come visit her in Italy in the summer. Gabi hopes that Arianna will be coming to Salem to stay with her. Sami hopes she can do both. Gabi assumes Sami is in Salem because EJ was shot. Sami confirms that is one of the reasons. Gabi says she would say she’s sorry about EJ but that would be a lie. Sami remarks on some people never changing. Rafe then joins them and guesses Sami knows everyone. Sami confirms she’s familiar with everyone here. Gabi decides that she needs to go check if she still has her company. Gabi is sure she and Sami will cross paths again as she then exits. Rafe says he has to get going too to check in at Black Patch. Rafe offers Sami a ride but Sami says he’s not getting away that easy as she hasn’t had her waffles yet.

Stephanie asks Jada if Rafe said anything. Jada says so far, there’s been no answer but maybe that is the answer and he wants nothing to do with her. Stephanie encourages that Rafe could be getting ready for work and plans to meet her there. Jada feels he would text her back if that was the case. Stephanie encourages that Jada has to at least go or else Rafe could go and she’s not there. Jada thinks it’s more likely that she shows up and Rafe’s not there. Stephanie argues that she won’t know unless she goes. Stephanie asks what Jada has to lose.

Kristen storms in to the DiMera offices, followed by Melinda who argues that she shouldn’t be doing this. Kristen argues that she is the CEO. Melinda says not anymore and warns her that this is trespassing but Kristen doesn’t give a damn. Kristen says she’s not just going to lie down and take it. Xander walks in and questions what she’s doing in his office.

JJ guesses they can rule out Kristen as a suspect. Shawn asks if he really wants to cross her off when she could’ve used another weapon. JJ says anything is possible but thinks Melinda may have been right that it’s not evidence, just speculation. Shawn remembers JJ saying he had another suspect in Gabi. JJ confirms that he was so focused on Kristen that he put that on the backburner, but now that Kristen seems unlikely, he’s thinking it may be time to take a closer look at Gabi.

Jada goes to Small Bar and looks over her text to Rafe. Jada wonders what she was thinking and if she seriously thought Rafe was going to come. Rafe then arrives, surprising Jada.

Gabi goes to the police station and tells JJ that she got his message but she can’t stay because DiMera has been taken over by Titan and she has to figure out where she stands. JJ says he read that in the Spectator and he’s sorry it’s so stressful for her. Gabi asks what he wanted to talk about. JJ asks if they can talk in private.

Sami enjoys her waffles while Leo sits with her and acknowledges that he caused a lot of problems for Will, but assures her that he’s done a lot of soul searching and will never interfere in anything like that again. Leo adds that he’s found his true love in Javi which Sami questions. Sami argues that when you really love someone, you have to know everything about them and love them anyway. Sami asks if Javi knows everything Leo has done to hurt so many people including Will and Sonny. Javi confirms that he knows all about it and he knows exactly the man Leo was then and the man he is today. Javi declares there are no secrets between them so whatever Sami is about to say is not going to change anything one bit. Javi assures that he and Leo are very happy together and nothing Sami can say will change that. Sami relates to knowing how it feels to be smitten and calls it a wonderful feeling. Sami says it just doesn’t help you think straight. Sami wishes Javi luck as she exits.

Gabi asks JJ why he called her down as they enter the interrogation room. JJ tells her about investigating EJ’s shooting. Gabi is sure he has a full plate considering the amount of people who have means and motive to want to kill EJ. JJ informs her that there’s now one fewer as Kristen has been cleared which surprises Gabi. JJ says that means they have to start looking at other suspects. Gabi questions what she’s doing here then. JJ then reveals that she’s one of the suspects.

Melinda tells Xander that as the company’s legal counsel, she was just advising Kristen to leave immediately. Xander informs Melinda that she is no longer their legal counsel as Titan is retaining new counsel because they value loyalty above all else and she’s compromised by Kristen hiring her. Xander says the last thing they need is the old regime undermining their leadership. Melinda argues that as a lawyer, she represents a variety of clients. Xander declares that either way, her services are no longer required. Melinda tries to argue but Xander threatens to call security so she leaves. Kristen then questions what the hell Xander is trying to pull here and how he managed to take over DiMera. Xander calls it a no brainer with Kristen in custody and EJ in a coma, so they saw it as a window of opportunity and seized it. Kristen responds that she has a window of opportunity too as she pulls her gun on Xander.

Rafe goes to see Shawn at his home and says he’s heard Jada’s side of the story, so now he wants to hear his. Rafe questions how the hell Shawn could sleep with his fiancée.

Jada sits in her office, thinking back to Shawn finding her at the bar and questioning where her gun was.

Chanel makes tea for Paulina at home. Paulina admits to being peeved at Chanel for thinking she could have tried to kill EJ. Chanel blames that on Paulina being dramatic when she said she had something to confess about the night EJ was shot, but now she knows that she had nothing to do with it. Chanel admits she also thought that because she’s not in a good place right now. Paulina understands and knows how worried she is about Johnny. Chanel talks about Johnny being so lost and angry ever since he found out that EJ raped Sami and that’s how he was conceived. Chanel wishes she knew how to help him.

Sami talks to Sydney on the phone and says there’s no change in EJ. Sami adds that she hasn’t talked to the police yet but they have no idea who shot EJ, as Johnny then approaches her at the hospital.

Roman remains at the Pub and thinks back to putting his gun back in it’s lockbox. Kate enters the Pub and tells Roman that she’s so glad to see him. Kate asks if he’s okay. Roman responds that he has something to tell her. Kate says she has something to tell him first and reveals that Vivian is out of prison.

Xander goes home to the Kiriakis Mansion and asks Philip about him celebrating too. Vivian then interrupts. Xander questions her being out of prison and tells her to get out, asking what she’s doing there anyway. Vivian responds that she is moving in. Xander calls her delusional and declares that she will only be moving in over his dead body. Vivian remarks that it could be arranged. Xander asks if she’s threatening him but she claims to be just kidding. Xander calls her a malignant bitch with a heart of stone. Xander warns Vivian to walk out voluntarily before he and Philip throw her out themselves. Vivian then tells Xander that Philip won’t help because he’s the one who invited her to stay.

Roman questions Vivian being out of prison. Kate tells him that Vivian went straight to Philip because she still sees herself as a mother figure to him. Roman guesses that Vivian hopes Philip will cut her in on Titan and DiMera. Roman points out that Philip hates Vivian so he questions how she thinks he will give her anything. Kate thinks back to Vivian’s threats. Kate tells Roman that Vivian is certifiably insane. Kate says she would do anything for her children but it’s like one thing after another, so she feels at a breaking point. Roman offers to make her dinner. Kate stops him and reminds him that there was something he wanted to tell her.

Sami tells Sydney that she will call her as soon as she knows anything and hangs up. Johnny asks how Sydney is doing. Sami says she’s hanging in there and said she would call him. Sami invites Johnny to join her at the Pub and see Roman, but Johnny says he’s going back to Paulina’s and needs time to think. Sami understands and says she was nervous about their talk as she thought it would have been more contentious. Johnny admits it probably would have been if he hadn’t talked to Rafe. Johnny knows Sami is not to blame and eventually, they all have to take responsibility for their actions which Sami agrees with. Johnny tells Sami that he loves her as they hug. Sami remembers she was about to ask him something before Sydney called, but decides they’ll talk later and tells him to go home to his wife. Johnny says goodnight and exits the hospital.

Jada looks at her gun and thinks back to Shawn asking her about not having it at the bar. Jada then puts the gun in her drawer and locks it up.

Chanel tells Paulina that she does think EJ should be prosecuted for what he did to Sami and she does think it would give Johnny some peace of mind. Paulina responds that she’s planning to call a friend at the Senate about changing the statute of limitations. Chanel comments that women like Sami deserve justice while Paulina argues that EJ deserves to pay. Chanel admits she’s relieved that Paulina is not the one who shot EJ. Paulina remarks that whoever did, she kind of wants to give them a medal.

Johnny thanks Sami for telling him everything. Sami asks if he’s okay. Johnny responds that he will be, but when he found out that EJ did that to her, he was so angry and it felt like his whole world came crashing down and he couldn’t see straight. Sami assures that she understands but says she has to ask him something. Johnny asks what it is but they get interrupted by Sami getting a call from Sydney. Sami says she promised to call her after seeing EJ. Johnny tells her to go ahead so Sami rushes out of the room to answer the call. Johnny then turns back to look at EJ and thinks back to stealing Roman’s gun from the Pub.

Shawn tells Rafe that he’s sorry as he was in a really bad place at the time. Rafe questions if it’s because Belle was sleeping with EJ again and Shawn was using Jada to get back at Belle. Shawn argues that he cares about Jada and would never use her like that. Rafe questions if Shawn is saying he has feelings for Jada and this wasn’t a one time thing. Shawn says that’s not what he said and that he cares about Jada as a friend. Shawn argues that Jada did nothing wrong but he gets it if Rafe doesn’t want to be friends with him anymore. Shawn swears it was a one time thing and it’s over now because Jada loves Rafe. Shawn then gets a call from the police station and asks Rafe not to go anywhere because he wants to finish this conversation. After Shawn steps out of the room, Rafe finds a piece of Jada’s clothing on the couch and questions it being a one time thing.

Paulina meets Jada in her office and tells her that she’s been getting a lot of questions about EJ’s shooting and would love to be able to give them an answer. Jada responds that there is unfortunately nothing more to say. Paulina thought she brought Kristen in for questioning. Jada explains that Shawn and JJ found a gun in Kristen’s bag but they are waiting for ballistics to examine and they probably won’t have results until tomorrow. Paulina declares that if the bullet matches Kristen’s gun, she is their shooter but if not, they are back to square one. Paulina asks if she has any other suspects.

Johnny goes home to Paulina’s. Chanel hugs him and says she’s been texting him all night and was starting to worry. Johnny says he put his phone on silent when he got to the hospital. Chanel asks if he went to see EJ. Johnny explains that Chad came over and gave him a hard time while making him realize that it might be his last time to say anything to EJ. Johnny then reveals that he ran in to his mom and they finally got to talk about what happened between her and EJ.

Roman tells Kate that he just wanted to talk to her about EJ’s shooting, but they are interrupted by Sami arriving and surprising Roman. They hug and talk about how much they’ve missed each other. Sami says she got in a couple hours ago and went straight to the hospital to check on EJ’s condition, but she’s mostly here to have a good conversation with Johnny as she felt like a better talk to have in person. Roman asks how it went. Sami thinks it went okay but they don’t have to rehash it. Roman is sorry to put her in that position and doesn’t know why he opened his mouth. Kate takes the blame since she told Johnny everything, so if there’s anyone to blame, it would be her. Sami assures that she doesn’t blame either of them since it turned out okay and she probably needed to have that conversation a long time ago. Roman is relieved that she sees it that way and repeats that it’s just great to have her here as they hug. Sami says it’s so good to be home. Roman informs her that Rex is in town as well, so Sami hopes to see him. Roman invites Sami to join them for dinner but Sami says she’s not hungry and that she has one more stop to make before the end of the night.

Shawn comes back to the living room but finds that Rafe is gone.

Rafe goes home frustrated and imagines Jada going back to hook up with Shawn. Sami then shows up at Rafe’s door, surprising him.

Jada tells Paulina to focus on one thing at a time and Kristen is their main focus since she had opportunity, means, and motive. Paulina questions her motive. Jada brings up Rachel Blake’s disappearance. Jada says if EJ made that happen so she couldn’t testify against him. Paulina goes over how that would keep EJ out of prison but gave Kristen a reason to blow him away and calls it an interesting theory. Jada adds that they can hold Kristen for 24 hours which should give them enough time to get the ballistics report back. Paulina then orders Jada to go home, but Jada responds that she can’t. Paulina says it’s been a long day and she needs to recharge. Jada repeats that she can’t go home so Paulina guesses she hasn’t worked things out with Rafe. Jada confirms she hasn’t heard from him since last night. Paulina encourages her not to give up hope as there’s still time for Rafe to come to his senses.

Rafe tells Sami that he had no idea she was even in town. Sami says she just came for a little bit to see Johnny and be there for him. Rafe mentions running in to Johnny in the park the other day and how he knows what happened between her and EJ. Sami says they had a whole heart to heart about it and it went pretty well. Sami credits Rafe for that since Johnny said Rafe told him to go easy on her, so luckily he still cares what Rafe thinks. Rafe is glad they had a good talk but guesses she didn’t come all this way just to thank him. Sami admits she has an ulterior motive. Sami points out Rafe no longer being on the police force, so she wants to tell him something that stays between them which Rafe agrees to. Sami tells Rafe that she’s really worried about Johnny as he was so angry when he found out what EJ did and she doesn’t blame him. Sami then wonders if Johnny decided to do something about it and take matters in to his own hands. Sami asks Rafe what if Johnny is the one who shot EJ.

Chanel asks Johnny how talking to Sami about what happened went. Johnny says he had a million questions but thought it would be better to just listen to her story. Chanel asks if she was able to help him understand. Johnny guesses maybe he understands it a little better, but he’ll never understand it entirely. Johnny adds that he does understand how much he loves his mom and maybe that’s all that matters. Johnny admits he feels closer to her than ever, even if his dad does feel like a complete stranger now. Johnny will never be able to understand how EJ could do that to Sami and admits he’s so angry and he doesn’t know if he’ll ever get past it.

Xander questions Philip inviting Vivian to move in, reminding him that Maggie lives here and Vivian tortured her. Xander says this makes no sense and asks why Philip would agree to this unless she has something on him. Philip claims not to know what he’s talking about. Xander argues that Philip wouldn’t let Vivian near the house unless she was holding something over him. Philip then admits that Vivian is blackmailing him but claims it’s emotional blackmail by lording their mother-son bond over him, so like it or not, they are connected by that. Xander thought he couldn’t stand her. Philip states that whether he likes it or not, Vivian is the woman who gave him life and without her, he wouldn’t be where he is today.

Roman tells Kate that he can’t imagine how difficult it was for Sami to talk to Johnny about what happened. Kate says maybe it’s better that it all came out in the open and that Johnny knows the truth. Roman says maybe in time, but right now he’s suffering. Roman brings up the look in his eye last night showing total hatred for his father. Roman calls it the same look he’s had when dealing with EJ for the last two decades. Kate reminds Roman that he wanted to talk to her about EJ’s shooting. Roman informs Kate that he thought she should know that Rex found a gun in her room. Kate questions why Rex was going through her drawers. Roman explains that he was looking for a pen. Kate calls it no secret that she owns a gun. Roman brings up how Kate thought EJ was behind Rex’s accident, so he couldn’t help but wonder if maybe Kate sought revenge. Kate questions the idea that she would shoot EJ in cold blood and if her son now thinks she’s a would-be murderer.

Chanel asks Johnny how it went seeing EJ. Johnny informs her that when Sami stepped out on a phone call, it gave him a couple minutes alone with his dad and he really tried to think of all the good memories he had of him. Johnny tells her about Christmas when he was 7 years old and how EJ had them donate presents to a local shelter to show them the importance of sharing. Johnny says at the time, he thought EJ may be the best guy alive and he later learned he wasn’t a saint but he knew they loved each other. Chanel asks what about now. Johnny responds that despite trying really hard to think of all the good, all he could see was the man who raped his mother. Johnny says he saw EJ lying in the bed, fighting for his life, and all he could think was that he got what he deserved.

Rafe questions if Sami seriously thinks Johnny shot his own father. Sami says she doesn’t want to, but she feels Johnny is hiding something from her. Sami asks Rafe what his instincts are telling him. Rafe says Johnny didn’t do it as he’s a good kid and he wouldn’t do it. Sami decides if that’s what Rafe thinks, she will believe it. Sami brings up all the ledges that Rafe has talked her off of and thanks him. Sami says she will get out of his hair as she’s sure he has plans but Rafe says he’s just drowning his sorrows in a six pack so Sami asks what’s wrong. Rafe informs Sami that he’s engaged. Sami remembers that Johnny told her but she thought they were supposed to be married already. Rafe tells her that was the plan, so Sami asks if something happened. Rafe says you could say that.

Roman tells Kate that Rex wasn’t accusing her of anything and was just concerned. Kate says Philip had that concern too, so two of her sons must think of her as a trigger-happy maniac. Kate acknowledges that she has shot people before like Vivian and Clyde, who both deserved it. Roman says one could argue that Kate thinks EJ deserved it. Kate assures that she did not shoot EJ. Kate asks if Roman believes her.

Johnny asks Chanel if it makes him a terrible person to think his dad got what he deserved. Chanel responds that thoughts aren’t actions, so he’s entitled to feel whatever he’s feeling. Johnny says maybe he would feel differently if EJ faced consequences for what he did, but there were never even any charges filed. Chanel informs him that Paulina was thinking the same thing so she went to see if there was a chance of prosecuting EJ for what happened all those years ago. Johnny doesn’t think Sami would want to go through all that. Chanel says that Paulina planned to call a friend from the Senate to see if they could do anything. Johnny appreciates her checking in to all that but points out that it might not even matter if EJ doesn’t make it. Chanel asks if they have any suspects. Johnny admits he didn’t ask. Chanel suggests maybe Jada has some leads.

Jada goes to Shawn’s to retrieve her things that she left as she thanks him for letting her stay last night. Shawn tells Jada that if she still needs a place to crash, she’s more than welcome to stay there. Jada informs him that Stephanie is letting her stay at her place again but thanks him again. Shawn tells Jada that Rafe stopped by right before she did and wanted to talk. Shawn says he tried to explain to Rafe what happened between them and reassure him that it would not happen again, but he got a call and when he came back, Rafe was gone.

Rafe informs Sami of Arnold Feniger’s recent return. Sami is shocked as she thought he was dead. Sami remarks that Arnold has some nerve showing his face in Salem. Rafe is sorry as it’s bringing up another awful memory for her. Sami says she’s so disgusted that EJ would do this to Rafe again. Rafe tells Sami that Arnold made Jada’s life a living hell and tried to ruin her career, then he ended up sleeping with a stripper. Sami comments that Jada must have been devastated, thinking Rafe did all those things. Rafe then reveals that Jada was so devastated that she found her way in to Shawn’s bed which shocks Sami. Rafe says it was about a month ago, but Jada just told him about it. Sami points out that Jada was going through a lot and she’s sure Rafe understands that. Sami then questions what Rafe did. Rafe admits he sort of freaked out and told Jada not to come home because he wanted to be alone. Rafe argues that Jada should’ve known Arnold wasn’t him. Sami tells him how absurd that sounds. Rafe acknowledges that he does now, but he was angry and he’s still hurt. Rafe says he was starting to see things from her point of view, but then he just came from Shawn’s where he found her blouse on his couch from the night before. Rafe says that Jada obviously spent the night, so whatever happened a month ago wasn’t just a one time thing.

Philip tells Xander that he knows he should’ve asked him before moving Vivian in and he’s sorry about that. Xander supposes the house is half Philip’s, so if he wants to move her in, it’s his funeral. Xander adds that Philip can be the one to break the news to Maggie as he walks out. Vivian admits to Philip that for a moment, she thought Philip was going to tell Xander that she forged the letter. Philip admits he was tempted and tells Vivian not to make him regret it. Vivian warns Philip that his secret is safe with her as long as Kate agrees to send Xander to an early grave. Vivian then walks out of the room. Philip looks back at the portrait of Victor and remarks that an early grave doesn’t look so bad right now.

Kate asks Roman for an answer, hoping he knows that she didn’t shoot EJ. Roman thinks back again to returning his gun to the lockbox. Roman then tells Kate that she did not shoot EJ and he’s certain of it. Kate thanks him, feeling at least someone believes she’s innocent as she hugs him.

Chanel tells Johnny that she knows he needs time to process everything he’s learned about his parents but she wants to make sure he doesn’t get consumed by the rage and to focus on the good things in his life like her. Johnny calls her the best thing in his life as they hug. Chanel suggests going to bed early after the day he’s had. Johnny says that sounds excellent and that he loves her as they kiss and then head to the bedroom.

Jada questions Shawn about Rafe just leaving without saying anything. Shawn says he was pretty pissed off but for a second, he actually thought he was getting through to him. Jada asks if Rafe knew she spent the night. Shawn says no as he thought it was best if he didn’t know that so he didn’t get the wrong idea…

Rafe tells Sami that he can’t believe it only took one fight for Jada to go running back to Shawn. Sami says she’s so sorry. Rafe feels like such an idiot because he thought he would come home and get his life back, but it seems like Arnold has taken it with him. Sami calls Rafe a good man and says she’s been doing some soul searching. Sami admits it took a long time for her to realize just how messed up and toxic her relationship with EJ was. Sami adds that there are a lot of things and choices she would’ve made differently, like not taking Rafe for granted. Sami says she wouldn’t have let him get away. Sami feels she didn’t treat Rafe fairly when he was the most healthy relationship she’d ever been in. Sami wants Rafe to know that she knows how good he was to her and that he treated her better than she deserved. Sami declares that her happiest memories are with Rafe as she was so happy. Rafe responds that he was too as he and Sami end up kissing.
