I’m guessing you saw the article in The Invader, which claims that I’m launching a campaign to get Heather freed. Have you? No. No. They — They got it all wrong. I don’t want Heather to go free. Well, I’m glad to hear that, and [sighs] my mother would be, too. She was pretty freaked out by the whole thing. Yeah, I understand how Portia feels. I can empathize with her. So that’s why I’m here to see what your plan is for Heather Webber. I mean, what everyone else says about you is one thing, but what I know about you is — is something else. And what do you know? You’re Spencer’s grandmother. And Ace’s grandmother. And Spencer thought the world of you. And he loved his baby brother, Ace. And you and Kevin are adopting Ace. I, um… I wanted to see to what degree Heather’s condition was represented in her record. How could that be? Exactly. Because it wasn’t known about at the time. So if it had been known, would Heather be free because of it? Is that what you want? We’re only vulnerable to the suggestion of libel if Mayor Collins can present proof that the story is false. Has she? Did she with you? What don’t you get about, “We’re done”? Did she ask for a retraction or even a correction? Did she say anything to refute our source’s allegation that she’s considering pushing the D.A. to reexamine Heather Webber’s case? Here’s a fact. Mayor Collins does not want Heather freed. Okay, well, that’s not what I asked. Who do you think is more credible to the people, The Invader or the claims of some elected politician? Who is fighting for justice in Port Charles? Our paper or Laura Collins? I myself would like an answer to that. What — What’s going on? Are you okay? I’m sorry, Allie. I didn’t know you were here. No, no, it’s okay. Simple fact that Laura requested court transcripts of Heather’s hearings. So somebody from Laura’s office must have leaked it. Or somebody from the courtroom. Why did Laura want the transcripts in the first place? Ask Laura. At some point, I might, but right now I am asking you, my bestie and future law partner, what is that official-looking file on your desk? The one with the county seal. Are those transcripts? See, both those questions need clarification, so — Uh-huh. Where’d you get them? DeWitt? I got them from Laura. She gave them to me. So it’s true. Laura is angling for Heather Webber’s freedom. And you’re going to help her do it? Trina, there is no way to know how this inquiry will go, uh, because all we have right now are what-ifs. So, for example, what if Heather’s disease had been discovered and diagnosed? What if she got the help she needed? Perhaps — Perhaps none of these atrocities would have occurred. But they did occur. Five people are dead. Was there anything in Heather’s transcript that could have gotten her released? I’m not a lawyer. You’re a mayor. You know plenty of lawyers. Alexis Davis was one before she took over The Invader. Were you talking to her about the article? Were you giving her an interview about your plans? [ Knock on door ] I’m sorry. I wish I’d met Gregory sooner, before his illness limited him. Although, he would probably say that it enabled him to find strengths he didn’t know he had or something enlightened like that. It makes me feel obliged to look for… untapped powers in me that I didn’t know I had, if there are any to find. You know, for a formidable woman, you have a surprising streak of self-doubt. You know, therapy can do wonders. Oh. Nice knowing you. [ Laughs ] Just — You’re too easy. Come on. Don’t give up on yourself just yet. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. The weaknesses we can see coming. It’s the strengths that can surprise us, the ones that reveal themselves when life demands. The trick is to recognize and — and call on them before they just… go to waste. Gregory had them, and he put them to good use. He did. Like I said, I didn’t know the man well, but I liked it. Maybe we’ve just been too focused on school and our careers to notice, and all the things that couples fight about and learn to compromise on are finally catching up to us. I mean, we just ignored the reality that couples grow apart and start to see things differently, and it’s — it’s — we’ve just pushed any and all new thoughts and feelings away until… Until what? Until it’s exploded in our faces. According to a promo in The Invader, “Survivor Trina Robinson sounds off on Mayor Collins effort to free a serial killer.” That’s a lie. I never talked to anybody from The Invader. My mom told me that someone reached out to her this morning, and I told her that I wasn’t interested. I would never, ever give an interview. I believe you, ’cause I think that Alexis would have given me a heads up on that. She may not know about this, either. Well, it’s official. You’re clickbait. You know what? I’m going to go. I’ve taken up enough of your time. Trina, I am sorry this is being dredged up again. Dr. Collins, in your expert opinion, do you think that it’s possible that the cobalt poisoning made Heather a killer? Sure, a lot of people would say that I am a sorry excuse for a human being, and I agree, because I don’t have the words right now to express to you how I feel. Nothing I could string together could ever be sufficient, could ever take away the pain that I’ve created for you and your daughter and a lot of other people. Sorry is ridiculously inadequate. But it’s true. I am so, so sorry. Sorrier than you will ever know. [ Sighs ] You’re right. There’s nothing you can say that will change anything. I’m not even sure what I expected to accomplish by coming here. I just — I just thought it was about time that we met, especially with everything that’s going on in the news now. You know, maybe there is one thing you can help me with. If you hadn’t been captured… …what were your intentions for my precious daughter? I said I’d look this over as a favor to Laura, and I would give her my non-accredited opinions. And that’s the extent of my involvement in this. Alright, well, no offense, but why didn’t she ask an actual, I mean, you know, like, a lawyer lawyer. -Offense taken. -Yeah. I don’t know why she asked me. We’re friends. Or maybe it’s because I was standing there when Kevin asked if Heather would still be held accountable if her medical condition impaired her judgment. Okay, here we go. So what have you discovered? Not a lot. I told you, I’ve just glanced at it. I did notice that they never ordered a medical examination. And I guess now they know that her hip implant deteriorated, which caused cobalt poisoning. And then they had the implant removed. Oh. Oh, okay. So Heather’s all nice now. My point is — is it’s new evidence, and you and I both know that the law grants relief in the event of new evidence. And there are lots of precedents to support that. For every precedent you find, I will find to counter it. Except one. Okay, name it. The one you set yourself. What the hell are you talking about? Are you being uncharacteristically modest or are you feigning ignorance? I haven’t the foggiest idea what you are talking about. -Fine. Let’s go to the gym. -Wait, wait. No, no, no, no, no. This must be serious if you would rather sweat than gloat. Okay, put me out of my misery. What precedent did I set that would help in the defense of happy-go-hooking Heather Webber? I mean, you’re obviously misreading one of my dusty old cases. I didn’t misread anything. The case isn’t even years old. Name it. Put your money where your precedent is. The state of New York versus Robert Frank, a.k.a. Franco. -[ Gasps ] I want to give you an honest answer, and I know this is not what you want to hear, but it’s the truth. I don’t know. Somehow I mixed up just wanting to protect my daughter with taking people’s lives. And look, I am not claiming that I don’t remember the horrible things that I did. I do. All of them. But what I can’t seem to piece together, what I can’t reconstruct is why. What on Earth did I think that I was accomplishing by murdering people? What is this? Practice? What, are you working out the argument you plan to make to the judge if your case gets reopened? Why on Earth would my case ever get reopened? Trina, what I can tell you is metallosis is a real diagnosis. But like any medical condition, it manifests differently in different patients. Now, was Heather psychotic because she was clinically psychotic or because her mind was raging with toxins and pain? There’s only one way to find out. That’s to remove the toxins, which we did. And now we just see what happens. When Dr. Finn found the metallosis, it was your mother who advocated that we remove the deteriorated hip. Yes, and now she’s kicking herself. [ Sighs ] Look, please let me know if there’s any further developments. And I promise you that I will not be giving any interviews any time soon. I will, Trina. And thank you for not rushing to judgment, because there’s been a lot of that lately, and I fear there’ll be more of it to come.

Thank you for letting me vent. Yeah. Molls, what am I missing here? You and TJ can’t be on the rocks because of one argument. I mean, you’ve done what a lot of people couldn’t do. High-school sweethearts who found each other at a young age and actually made it to adulthood? I know I’m impressed. And they said it wouldn’t last. Most high-school romances don’t, and you guys did. Yeah, but things were a lot less complicated then. I mean, TJ and I always used to be on the same page about everything, but now? Not so much. And TJ does this thing where he’ll say something and then later claim he never meant it, like he felt like he had to fall in line with me as if we were, what, going to fall apart because we’ve had one argument? And don’t get me wrong, like, we’ve had disagreements, but — but they were petty. They weren’t — They weren’t like this. They weren’t filled with this pent-up resentment. I mean, is it so out of line for me to want TJ to mean what he says, instead of just waiting months for him to tell me what he was thinking but couldn’t muster the courage to say? It’s like… But it’s going to be fine. Um, yeah, we’re going to figure it out, so it’s fine. Molls. Does TJ have buyer’s remorse about me being the surrogate? Molly. My God, I thought we hashed all of this out already when we decided to do this together, all of us. And — And, really, you and TJ just papered this over? No, no. I thought so, too. I don’t get it. What’s the issue? The issue is TJ thinks I’m a flake. He thinks I’m unreliable. That’s why all the questions and the doubts. He just agreed to me being the surrogate because he knew it’s what Molly wanted. TJ wouldn’t even trust me to take care of a cactus, let alone his baby. I think the surrogacy has just exacerbated an underlying issue. I mean, TJ and I just haven’t been communicating lately. Yeah, and communication is more important now than ever before, with the baby coming. Yeah. Yeah, so… we need to work on that and do better. Um… I should really get back to work. [ Sighs ] If a smart lawyer deploys your Twinkie defense and Heather’s sentence is overturned… What you’re saying is, if my would-be murderer goes free, I will have no one to blame but myself. I have no reason to practice anything. I am not going before any judge. I pled guilty. Case closed. You really have no idea? According to The Invader, the mayor is questioning your conviction and is considering coming out in favor of having it overturned. Are you messing with me right now? What mayor? Mayor of Port Charles, your old friend and mine, Laura Collins. I hate this outrage coming at you, especially since I’m to blame for it, too. What are you talking about? Laura, I performed a psych assessment on Heather that was starkly different than all the ones that were done prior to her surgery. So I asked Alexis if there were any legal ramifications to worry about, but I couldn’t imagine that this would start a chain reaction that could threaten your political career. You acted responsibly. Your questions were professional and ethical, and there is just no way that you’re at fault here, okay? And frankly, neither am I. But as the mayor, I’m supposed to do the right thing… …and the right thing by all the citizens of Port Charles, not just the ones we like. Who was he? I’m assuming it’s a man. Only the love of my life, girl. Marcus. Marcus and I were engaged to be married. Circumstances changed all that. I broke off the engagement, left him behind to help my — my sister raise my nephews. Marcus later married a lovely woman named Yvonne, who passed away a few years back. [ Sighs ] There was never any other man I could be serious about. For a bit, there was a man in London. Lovely man. Thought I loved him, but… …couldn’t hold a candle to Marcus. I convinced myself that life as a single woman was what I chose, and I really — I really believed that it was until today when a friend called me… …and told me Marcus died on Sunday. It hurts so much. Everything. Today, everything I have and… …everything I’ve done with my life seems like nothing compared to everything I never had… …and never did. Even I know this is a crazy idea. I’ll reach out to Laura and ask her to stop it. I’m a rotten person who’s done terrible, unforgivable things. And when I say I remember the hook… …I remember all of it — the weight of it in my hand, the sound that it made on contact. Believe me, I am exactly where I belong, and I don’t need any judge to, like, verify that or say otherwise. [ Sighs ] But I am so sorry… …about the light going out in your daughter’s eyes.

You know, you’re not the only doctor to recognize Heather’s condition. Portia is the one who’s treating her for cobalt poisoning, and yet she doesn’t see a conflict in holding that same patient responsible for everything she’s done. Portia treated the patient and trusted the legal system to deal with her crimes. Now that that same legal system sent Heather to prison, it’s no wonder that Portia wants to see her stay there. Well, God knows I don’t think that Heather is completely innocent, either. [ Sighs ] But I do think that it is vitally important that she gets a fair hearing. You know? And it’s not up to me or you or — or Portia or Curtis or anybody to decide. I admire the stand you’re taking. Remember that when they start calling for my head. You may be the only supporter I have left.

I’m stymied. What do I do? Well, if your goal is to keep Heather in jail, I suggest that you keep your mouth shut and hope that nobody stumbles over your brilliant defense that could help save Heather the same way that it did her son. Thank you for sitting with me and listening to me rattle on. I’ll be — I’ll be fine in a bit. Hour. Maybe two. I got time.

Oh. Mosquito. [ Both laugh ] I think Molly has a much bigger problem than she wants to admit. Maybe she and TJ are on the verge of breaking up. After just one fight? Wouldn’t you think they do more to save their marriage? No, they’re not — they’re not married. They’re — It’s a domestic partnership. It’s the same legal status in the state of New York. Well, why don’t they just get married? Because Molly didn’t want to. She’d seen too many marriages fail. That could happen in domestic partnerships as well, right? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, have you ever considered what would happen if Molly and TJ don’t stay together? I mean, with the baby? No, because I never even thought they would split up. But what if they did? I mean, then what — what would my options be as the person carrying this baby? Or my rights? Hell, what would my responsibilities be? No idea. I need to figure this out.

Ever since The Invader printed that article about me, uh, trying to get Heather freed from prison. I have a really hard time believing that you had anything to do with that. But…it’s your paper. Well, I’m still Editor in Chief, but the culprit for that particular piece was Adrian DeWitt and his insatiable appetite for clickbait headlines. Okay, well, it is definitely clickbait, but the information that I had requested Heather’s court records, that was leaked. Seems likely. And while I don’t approve of Adrian’s tactics at all, I do believe in freedom of the press. So do I, but the First Amendment does not allow us to scream fire in a crowded theater. Well, I don’t think that’s quite what happened. This headline was intended to get people riled up. And it was successful, by the way. Well, on a related topic, uh, you said you were not able to give me an answer about whether or not there would be a pathway to reopen Heather’s case without reading her court files. So, as per your request… Gio is an amazing musician, and I’m sure he could be doing something other than folding towels. No, I’m actually enjoying folding towels. I know it’s not an excuse. I’m responsible for my words and my actions, and I’m sorry. It should have never happened. And then when I — when I followed you, I only followed you because I wanted to explain to you. And then I — I got to you and you were crying. And I went to touch you, and you backed away. And it’s like you were scared of me, and I don’t — I never want that. That’s not — You know… I was shocked. That was like — It hurt. It hurt me bad. But I don’t — Look, I don’t blame you for that. I understand that that’s not how a father should act. That’s not how… I should act. And I know that you were there to comfort her and everything. And I appreciate that. And I thank you for that. The gunmen had nothing to do with Sonny. Thank God. Well, then who sent them? They look pretty intense. Why not? Because I don’t want you… Oh. Yeah. My mom’s probably talking him into doing something he doesn’t want to do. Does it happen a lot? It happens pretty often. Yeah. I mean, they’re best friends, and I don’t think Jason’s gonna be spending too much time at the pool. But if he does, everything should be comped. He’s, like, the ultimate VIP. This is interesting. Do you see grounds to reopen her case? Laura, I can’t say for sure. I mean, I’d have to spend a lot more time studying this. But I do think potentially there’s grounds for appeal. That’s good news. I’m glad to hear it. And to be clear, that does not mean that I wish to excuse Heather from all the heinous crimes she committed. I do think that she should be punished, but… If she was not in control of her actions at the time… As I’ve said before, she pled guilty. The judge sentenced her. But all of that was before she was diagnosed with metallosis. Yes, exactly. So nobody knew that her crimes were — were being influenced by or perhaps even created by the cobalt poisoning. That was something that was completely out of her control. Correct? So why can’t you use that to somehow craft an argument? Bu-bu-bu-bu — I’m gonna have to stop you. I can’t do anything. I’m not a lawyer anymore. And if, by the way, things went in Albany, I’ll probably never be a lawyer again. So you’re gonna have to find somebody else. But do you think it’s worth pursuing? I think a good lawyer would argue that there are legitimate grounds to reopen Heather’s case. This is so relaxing. It really is. The sun feels so good. I could do this all day. I’ll do it if you will. Deal. It was really nice of Mama Q to comp us. So nice. Yeah. I mean, I don’t want to sound ungrateful. Sonny attacked Dex, threatened to kill him, and Kristina saw the whole thing. Kristina idolizes her father. That can’t have been easy for her. She ran out of the room crying hysterically. She wound up sobbing on the bathroom floor. She was able to call for Blaze, who came to get her, took Kristina back to her hotel room and took care of her. And the baby? Thankfully, our baby is fine. How long have you known about this? Not long. I didn’t even find out until days after it happened. And then from Kristina? No, I mean, I guess I can understand why. I’m the A.D.A., and Sonny committed multiple crimes that night. I’m sure Kristina knew that telling me would just put me in a bad position. Molly, how did you find out about this? I ran into Blaze, asked how Kristina was doing, and just the way that she answered, I could tell something was off, so I pried it out of her. Not my proudest moment, interrogating my sister’s girlfriend, but it worked. Yeah. Okay. Thank you for finally telling me. Well, where are you going? Where do you think? Someone needs to remind your sister that this baby she’s so careless with, that it’s ours. TJ, no. No, no, no, that’s not gonna make the situation any better. And it’s okay now, okay? Nothing really happened. It could have. Okay. What if Kristina tried to physically intervene? You know how emotional she gets. You know that she acts without thinking. Her — She could have been hurt. People always warned me about you, told me that I wasn’t seeing things clearly. That I didn’t really know you. But I was sure that I knew you better than anyone else. And that is why I reacted so strongly that night. Because I couldn’t even fathom that that man I saw attacking Dex was the same loving father that I had grown up with my whole life. No, no. I’m sorry that you had to see that. I really am, honey. Yeah, I am too. Seeing you commit that violence, hearing you scream those threats, it’s like I was watching a stranger. Half of me was saying, “That’s not my father, and I must be hallucinating it or dreaming it,” and the other half of me knew, “No, this is real. This is real.” And then I realized that everything anyone has ever said about you was right. They were right all along. I don’t blame you for feeling that way, but that’s not… That’s not who I am. You say that, but I don’t — I don’t know. What happened that night? Dex worked for me. He betrayed me. He showed up at the wedding. Walking around like a peacock, like he belonged. Talking to family… and friends. Like he was just the — you know, the guy. I told him… …to stay away from me. And he refused. So I walked away. He grabbed my arm. And I snapped! I’m not proud of it. But I lost my temper. It’s the same damn temper that I’ve been trying to get rid of my whole life. I lost control. But it’s never gonna happen again. I understand losing your temper. I have one, too. I assume I got it from you. You’re my daughter. You’re the best part of me. And I just wanted to come here and let you know that I… …that I need you. And I love you. And that I want you to know that I would never hurt you. I have to ask you something. Please don’t lie to me. Go ahead. When you said — When you said you were gonna kill Jason and Dex, did you mean it? After everything that happened, I knew I had to… make it right with Dex. We talked. We struck a truce and we came to the agreement he can live his life as free as he wants, and I’m not gonna interfere. So you came to a truce. That’s not exactly peace. Well, the next step is up to Dex. He knows where I stand, but that’s… He’s not what’s important here. You are. There’s nothing more important to me than you. Nothing, and I mean nothing is worth the cost of losing you.

I don’t want to lose you either, Dad. It’s not gonna happen. Ever. Because you know what? Even if you never want to see me again, and I… I’m still gonna be your father. I’m gonna — I’ll cheer you from afar. I’ll root for you for your happiness. I’m gonna love — love you till my dying breath. And that’s never gonna change.

[ Laughs ] I used to have one just like this when I was little. Yeah, I know that because I got it for you. You did? Yes, I did. I didn’t know that. And your face lit up. Like it’s lighting up right now, it lit up back then. And you never would get rid of that thing. Nobody could take it away from you. Your mom had to snatch it when you were sleeping because you would not get rid of it when you were awake. I actually — I think I remember that part. [ Laughs ]

Well, thank you for the gift and…the sweet memory. Yeah. So you good? You good? Everything’s fine? You’re taking care of yourself, the whole thing? Yeah, the baby’s good. Um…it’s healthy. I know you’re upset. I was, too, when I found out. But you can’t run over there and confront Kristina. You’re just gonna put her on the defensive and she’ll shut us out completely. She has to deal with us. She’s carrying our baby. No, actually she doesn’t. Kristina is the egg donor, too. So in the state of New York, the baby is legally hers unless and until she signs adoption papers. None of this would have ever happened if we had hired a surrogate to carry our baby like I wanted to, but no, no, no, no, you had to have your sister, right? What did you think, Molly? Really? That after a lifetime of making impulsive decisions that suddenly Kristina is gonna be stable and reliable, right? And now Kristina gets to make decisions about our baby. So what would my next step be? Well, I think you need to find a lawyer. And I think you’d be able to do that easily because this case is interesting. I mean, this is a point of law that has not been fully explored, and an attorney might be interested in arguing it and setting a precedent. Okay. Is there anyone you can recommend? Well, I’d have to give that some thought, but I want to give you fair warning. By setting a case like this into motion, you’re not gonna be able to determine the outcome. It will be unpredictable. Well, you’re not saying that Heather could actually go free, are you? That depends on the judge. It depends on the argument. It depends on the precedence. But the bottom line is she may get a lesser sentence, she may be moved to another facility, or she may be freed outright. There you go. Let me know if you two need anything else. Thank you. You are looking red. I think it’s my turn to play tanning butler. Enchanté. [ Laughs ] It’s a pretty nasty bruise you got there. What happened? Oh, yeah. Uh, well, James was [laughs] He almost fell out of his saddle the other day. He was trying to jump this little thing, and I stopped it from happening. I came in. But Comet, uh, kind of caught my leg a little bit when I was rushing in to catch him. Pretty heroic. Nah. That was nothing. Anyone would have done the same thing. Probably. But you did it because you love James. I mean, I really like the kid. I wouldn’t say I love him. Then you’re fooling yourself. You don’t see how your eyes light up when you talk about him. You don’t just like James. You’re not just fond of him. You love that kid, and he loves you right back, even though he has no idea that he’s your nephew. I mean, imagine how happy and excited he would be if you just told him that you’re Mac’s son. [ Sighs ] I knew I shouldn’t have left you alone with your father. No, I’m glad you did. You are? Well, it’s what you said. I love you. I want to make you happy. But I knew that we should have waited. Everything inside of me was screaming that we should not use Kristina as our surrogate. That we should… We should use someone that is not related to us. You don’t get to play the victim now. You have a voice. You could have used it. Why didn’t you say something? I did in the beginning, but you made it perfectly clear that you would be devastated if I objected. Okay? All you could see was how you wanted a baby. You wanted it so badly, that’s all you could see. Not just a baby, our baby. I wanted to have a baby with you, TJ. I know you do, and I want that, too. But using Kristina’s egg? Now, we are tied to your erratic sister and her violent, erratic father. This isn’t fair. This is not my fault. Kristina was found sobbing on a bathroom floor because she witnessed her father attack and threaten to kill someone. But hey, hey, hey, hey, at least they’re related to the baby, right? Are you happy now? I admitted I wanted to have a biological connection to our child because it kills me that I cannot carry this baby myself. I am devastated that I will never experience pregnancy or giving birth. But — but you wouldn’t get it because there’s never been any question that the baby would have half your DNA. That is not my fault. And it feels like you’re blaming me for it. No, I’m not. I am not blaming you for any of this, but you are blaming me because I just want to have a connection to our baby. Look, I know that things have not gone according to plan, but what do you want for me? An apology? It wouldn’t hurt. Well, you’re not gonna get it. I trusted Kristina to be our surrogate, and I shouldn’t have. I admit it, but Kristina is very fragile right now, so the best thing that we can do is just leave Kristina alone, not upset her anymore, and just let her be so that we don’t provoke her even more. We just need to let Kristina get through this pregnancy, carry the baby to term, give birth and not upset her. Or else… Or else? Mm. Or else what? Say it. Fine. What if Kristina decides to back out of our agreement and keep the baby for herself? She could. There’s nothing stopping her. My dad got me a stuffed animal just like this when I was a little girl. I loved that thing so much. I took it everywhere with me. I slept with it. Everything. And he brought me this today as a gift for the baby. Well, that was nice of him. It was. It was very thoughtful. And I can tell from your reaction that it means a lot to you. Yeah. I don’t know. Am I crazy for feeling that way? Not at all. He’s your father. Kristina, no matter what else he’s done, it’s obvious that he loves you. And I love him. I do. [ Sniffles ] He’s always there for me and he knows exactly what — what to do to make me feel better. He never judges me or comes to me with a list of all these things I’m doing wrong. Today he came here to give me this gift for the baby. And I know that this little one is gonna love this just as much as I did.

The last thing I want is for Heather to go free. The families of her victims — they would be outraged, and I wouldn’t blame them. Laura, then you need to drop this. I mean it, you need to forget about it and walk away. And just leave Heather in a super max prison for the rest of her life because… because that would make my life easier right now, right? No, I can’t do that. Well, this is quite a dilemma for you. I get it. I mean, this is not just an esoteric conversation about a point of law. People have lost their lives and other people have had their lives altered. I mean, this is — and I can’t believe I’m saying it — a time where I’m kind of glad I’m not a lawyer. Come on. You just fought so hard to become a lawyer again to defend people’s rights. What would the old Alexis Davis say about all this? So, yeah, at first, I did think you were behind the hit. You could have given me up to Anna. I’d probably be behind bars. But you didn’t. No. And I never would. I was wrong anyway. You didn’t send the guys. No, no, I didn’t. It’s good that you believe me. Even if I did want to tell Mac that I’m his son, I’ve kept it hidden for way too long. I’ve lied about it so many times, there’s no way that he trusts me. Look, I-I get it, I really do. I lied to Nina for months when I made her think that I was her daughter, and she was so angry when she found out. And so was everyone in Port Charles, but Nina and I, we got past it, and so did everyone else. Hey, give Mac a chance to forgive you. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the outcome. I don’t know. I mean, there’s a big part of me that does want to come clean to Mac, but I don’t know if I’m brave enough. Ah, the Cody I know is plenty brave. You broke me out of Ferncliff. You saved me from Dr. Montague. Alright. That was a completely different situation, Sasha. You needed help. Mac has a great life. He’s got a happy and — and — and fun family. They adore each other. And I don’t want anything to ruin that, much less me. Plus, I don’t even know if Felicia has come clean to Mac about, you know, doing a secret DNA test on my hair to see — your hair actually to see if I’m his son. I don’t want to be the one to blow that secret. You’re making excuses because you’re afraid of what will happen. I get it, but… Look. It’s really hard to maintain a lie forever. And there’s something really freeing about telling the truth. I mean, that’s what I found, at least. Maybe you will, too. The old Alexis Davis, who devoted most of her life to the law and deeply believes in it, would say that if the justice system decides that Heather should have a lesser sentence or even if she should go free entirely, she would say, “Let the law take its course.” [ Knock on door ] Come in. I can’t interfere with that… even if I was so inclined. Yeah. I didn’t expect you to. I wanted to give you a heads up before I go. For old time’s sake. Former Director Brennan. Commissioner Devane. What could the two of you possibly have to discuss?

Hi. Uh… S-Sorry for my — Sorry for my attire. I was — I had a revelation in the shower and then I hastened to my screen to check it out. Have you been at this all night? Uh, no. I spent the evening with Maxie and the kids. We had Violet Finn over for a sleepover, but when the kids went to bed, uh, “pretending” to be asleep, I decamped for the Metro Court. Did you get any sleep? Negative. I’ve been too busy. Okay, well, did you make any progress? I did just, uh, penetrate the FBI’s firewall. Oh, that’s excellent, Spinelli. But I’m sad to report that I’m no closer to finding what Agent Gates has on Jason than I was a week ago. Okay, we go in there. Positive. See how he’s doing. Maybe he’ll be receptive. I just hope he won’t keep lying to us or himself. I can’t leave my niece in an unsafe situation. God forbid something happens to that little girl under his care. It would destroy him. I see that you were able to get into the FBI’s evidentiary database. Very good, Spinelli. Excellent work. That’s huge. Thank you. It was a fortuitous breakthrough. But unfortunately, accessing the actual files has proven impossible. The database has ironclad security. No access unless you’re an actual agent with proper credentials. Which means we’re gonna have to move on to plan “B” in order to obtain the clearance. Yeah. I fear you’re right. Um, I’ve been tracking Agent Cates with the hotel security cameras for the last few days. I made a printout of his movements, and I’ve also ascertained that he carries his FBI credentials in his wallet. The I.D. card used to enter the facilities? Yeah. And access to the computer. I’m quite certain the card has a digital key that will access the database. Okay, well, all we need is a card reader, and we can use Agent Cates’ access. Right. So I presume you have a plan as to how to nab said credentials without Agent Cates being the wiser? I do, and if Agent Cates sticks to his routine, our window of opportunity is about to open up. Mr. Brennan has been arrested and charged. His fate will be decided by the courts, not the local police commissioner. Perhaps you need to clarify that for yourself, Agent Cates. I don’t need a lecture on judiciary protocols. Thank you all the same, though. Well, I’m pretty clear on it. What I’m not sure about is what the two of you have to discuss. Unless it’s reminiscing about the good old days of the WSB. See, I can’t quite decide whether you need more coffee or if you should lay off caffeine altogether. Is there a problem, mate? This place… This place is a mess. Should really get it cleaned up before Violet gets home. Speaking of Violet, um, Chase and I, we had an idea. Given the information you just gave us about you and Elizabeth breaking up, maybe the timing’s just right. Oh, yeah? Yeah. Uh, Brook Lynn and I are gonna move in with the Quartermaines for a little while. I mean, we have so many wedding presents, and we want to get our place ready. Yeah, maybe even paint, right? Yeah. Yeah, maybe. It’d be nice to be by the water. Yeah, and there are always so many kids around, you know? Leo, Danny, Scout, Wiley, Aiden, Jake. Uh, and James, he’s gonna take riding lessons with Cody. So Georgie will be there. Uh-huh. Sounds like a full house. Yeah, but it’ll be fun, though, right? So we were thinking maybe, uh, Violet could come hang with us for a while at the Quartermaines’. Better than summer camp. There’s always so much to do. And now, thanks to Sasha, the food is amazing. You really think I don’t know what you’re doing? There’s no way you’re taking my daughter from me.

Violet is still your cousin, and that will never change. Yeah, but you and Finn are breaking up, so we won’t see each other like we used to. People drift apart and next thing you know… We won’t let that happen. Even if you and Finn are mad at each other, can’t you guys figure something out? Maybe they can’t. Maybe Mom has a reason to be mad. Obviously there’s something that I don’t know. Jake seems to know. Don’t I have the right to? Okay. Alright, alright. There’s just no easy way to say this. Well, he did out and out tell me that he didn’t trust me when he first came to town. WSB connection and everything. Yeah. So it stands to reason that he wouldn’t like us talking. But I don’t care. You know, I’m gonna let him stew on that. I’m not hiding anything. I’m not really worried. Well, you should be. Agent Cates is a true believer. You know, the most dangerous of all. Really? Enlighten me. Cates and those like him truly believe that God and the law are on their side. Anything they can do can be justified because it makes the world a better place according to their own definition of better. They didn’t make allowances for human weakness. They’d rather wreck themselves and everyone around them than compromise on their beliefs. I know people like that. You’re right. They can be dangerous. But so can too much cynicism, Jack. It’s a little late in the proceedings, but, uh… I should formally introduce myself. How do you do? I am John. Hi, John, I’m Samantha. My friends call me Sam. You mentioned you were divorced with two kids. Yeah. How long you been divorced? Uh…six years now. Less said about that, the better. Bad breakup? Yeah, that’s an understatement. In what way? Oh, well, my ex had everyone believing that he had died. And my son thought his father was dead and that — that hurt. And then he just turned up. I was kind of shocked. Yeah. That’s, uh, that sounds highly unusual. Dysfunction aside, where you at least happy he was alive? Sure. Yeah, but conflicted about… everything else. I mean, it brought up a lot of stuff for me. I get that. My ex-wife passed away, and sometimes I’d fantasize about where we’d be if she hadn’t. How different my life would be.

Top cop by day, Pikeman mastermind by night. Well, the irony isn’t lost on me that Cates is trying to take me down for something that you actually did. Alcoholism is a terrible thing. You have seen it in your own family, so I know you’re not naive about it. Uncle Vito and Aunt Betsy. Yeah, yeah. Both of whom were not at your wedding. Because we knew sending them an invitation would be a waste of an invitation. You know, when I was growing up, your Uncle Vito was my favorite uncle… until the drinking took over. Yeah, I remember when I was a kid, they always used to stop by on the holidays. They’d take turns leaving the room and I’d hear them in the kitchen rattling ice cubes. And I would think, like, “Wow, they are thirsty.” Yeah, well, you got that right. But it wasn’t water they were thirsty for. And then later in the night, they’d be bumping into things, and I thought it was just because they were old, but… now I know it is because of the drinking. Yeah. And we tried, you know, we tried to get them into AA. We tried to get them to see a doctor, but it never worked. And after years and years of broken promises, we realized that they had to commit to their own treatment, but they never did. Yeah. You know, they say that God protects fools and drunks. But I don’t really see it, you know, because they’re still alive, but what kind of life is that? I don’t want that for Finn. [ Sighs ] I just hope and pray that Chase can get through to his brother. Well, you know, maybe Finn will… Will be able to help himself, you know? But…it’s very sweet of you and Chase to try and help him. Yes, of course I want to help Finn. The truth is, he is a grown man. He is either gonna get himself into recovery or have to live with the consequences of his disease. But Violet — Violet is a child. Her mother hasn’t been heard from for years. Finn has been a sole parent, and he’s not exactly capable of parenting right now. And Elizabeth, yeah, is her aunt, but she’s got kids of her own. So that leaves me and Chase. And we will do everything in our power to keep Violet safe… even from her own father. [ Scoffs ] You can wave that bottle around all you want. What I do in my home is my business. I know what you’re thinking. I’m not an alcoholic. You’re a drug addict, and drinking and getting high lead to the same results. You need help. Buddy, just because you got married doesn’t make you the man. Like you’re gonna come in here and tell me what to do. This is not about me, Finn, and it is not about my wife, no matter how hard you try to deflect. What? So you got all the answers now, huh? Not everybody has your perfect life, Chase. I’m trying to do the best that I can. Okay, keep fooling yourself, because nobody is buying this crap right now. You don’t know what’s going on inside me! You don’t know the pressure that I am under! Then tell me. I don’t want to talk to you. You know what? I’m gonna clean up this mess, and I’m gonna go keep rolling, just like I always do. You do not have to do this alone. Alright, I can put on some coffee and we can talk about it while we straighten up. You don’t get it, Golden Boy. You wouldn’t understand it anyway. Where’s all this coming from? My life isn’t perfect. I nearly died a few years ago. Do you remember that? I remember I saved you. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Do you have any idea how many calls I’ve been on like this? Some drunk or drugged-out son of a bitch tearing his family apart at the seams. Look around, Finn! Look what you’ve already made of your life. It’s a mess! I just lost my dad. I can’t take losing my brother, too. Talking to your dad now? That’s cool. I only called him because I thought Mom might need some backup. Finn didn’t give you a hard time? No, no, no. But having Jason show up, I was grateful for the support. I want you to always feel like you can call your dad for help. It’s not like I had a bunch of people to call. Well, you did the right thing. And it meant a lot to him that you called. Did it for you, Mom. Not me or him. Well, thank you. Does, um, does that mean I’m forgiven for lying about the movies with Gordo? Not a chance. I am not surprised that you’re focused on Chase’s feelings, but I really want you to pay attention to your own. Because I know you feel so much grief about Gregory. I do. It’s just…I’m so worried about Chase. He believed Finn when he said it was a one-time thing. So now Chase is not just feeling betrayed by his brother’s lies, he’s also beating himself up like he should have seen it sooner. Because he’s a cop, he should know better. Oh, well, he’s a little brother, you know. He’s hoping for the best. And who knows? Maybe he’ll get through to Finn. Maybe Finn will seek out some help. I don’t know, Ma. Something tells me that this is gonna be a whole ordeal for all of us. [ Sighs ] Look… I’m your ma, okay? And I’m gonna say this even though I know you’re not going to, but… it’s not supposed to be this way. You — You are supposed to be blissfully happy in Florence, and you’re supposed to come home for months of newlywed magic. Instead, you’re — you’re dealing with problems that could — that could hurt an entire family. Florence isn’t going anywhere. And nothing can compare to what Chase and I have found with each other. We are each other’s person for life. We will get through whatever life throws at us. So being sad or worried or even scared for Chase, that’s just a part of that now. I am so happy you found that kind of love. I’m sorry if what I’m going through is bothering you. I’ll tell you what, bro, I will — I’ll try to fall into line and not be a problem anymore. Maxie: Well, Natalia had some requirements, a.k.a. demands.  That woman is a real piece of work.  I had the kids with me. I had to take them home  and basically drop everything so I could deal with this.  If we could do this as quickly as possible —  Are you even listening to me?  Kids…home.  I’d like to go there and be with them.  I’m so sorry, Maxie. I’m a little distracted.  I picked up on that.  I had the best afternoon,  and I can’t stop thinking about it.  I’m glad you guys had a good time, though.  Oh, “good time” would be an understatement —  for Wiley, at least.  You would have thought we were at Disney World.  Yeah, the Metro Court pool is, like, the place to be.  It’s where it’s at.  More like Drew is. Wiley adores him.  Yeah. All kids do.  Yes!  If and when Drew runs for office,  he should be holding a baby in every campaign photo.  That’s actually a solid press strategy.  You should tell him that. Thank you. I will.  Oh. Did you, uh — Did you see Josslyn?  It was her first day lifeguarding, right?  We did. And it was. Your sister crushed it.  That’s awesome. I feel like I missed out on a great day.  Well, one thing you won’t be sad about missing —  We ran into Nina.  Need a hand?  -Thanks for stopping by. -No problem.  Okay, we have new market research  on the Wellness launch, and it is encouraging, man.  This is just the right time to do this.  That’s what I wanted to talk to you about.  I’m considering a new venture that might conflict  with the launch of the Wellness division.  Oh. So, how was your first day lifeguarding?  It was pretty good.  Seemed that way earlier. No last-minute disasters?  No. No, I didn’t have to rescue anybody.  A plus. Yeah.  And all the kids were pretty well-behaved.  And Gio seems cool.  Yeah, I talked to him a little bit at the wedding.  He seems like a good guy.  Yeah, I think Trina might have gotten him  a job playing the violin.  Oh, and there was one more thing.  About Gio? Or your day?  My day.  Not only was it my first day, but I had a visitor.  Oh, really? And this — this visitor  wasn’t overstepping by visiting?  No.  Glad to hear it.  I think that if all the pool days are like this one,  it’s gonna be a pretty good summer.  Well, that is definitely something to celebrate.  Are you ready for dinner?  Yeah. I had such a good talk with Willow today.  That’s really great, Nina.  But Violet is spending the night at my house tonight, so could we —  And you should have seen Wiley  in his cute, little swim trunks, Maxie!  Although, I guess he’s not so little anymore.  But these children are growing up so fast.  Yeah, yeah. Time flies, as it is doing right now, so just —  And Drew was actually tolerable.  I mean, he’s still a horrible, selfish person.  “Selfish.” Interesting.  But, you know, it’s been a long time  since I’ve had this much contact with Willow.  And I have to admit it’s because of Drew,  so if this is the price that I have to pay  for dancing with the devil…  I’m more than willing to pay up.  Wow. Just like that, you’re running for Congress?  Man, not “just like that.”  And I know you’re gonna keep this confidential,  but Larry McConkey is retiring.  Wow. I’m sorry to hear that.  For the most part, I like his policies,  but more importantly, I like his integrity.  So do I, which is why when Nina said  she was gonna go interview him,  I decided to kind of stop by, pop in there, introduce myself.  And then I pitched the Esplanade project.  Named in his honor. Nice touch, Drew.  I wasn’t — I wasn’t trying to butter him up.  I really wasn’t. The man is impervious to flattery.  But he does care about his legacy,  both in the House and in his district.  He wants a functioning government.  And that’s where you come in.  McConkey said that he would endorse me  if I ran for his seat.  Have you accepted? I’m close.  I mean, I’ve been talking to people,  I’ve been asking opinions, and now I’m asking yours.  Because if I do this, it’s going to affect Aurora and you.  So Nina was at the pool ? Was she swimming or…?  No, she was looking for Drew,  and I’m not sure she would have even said hello ,  but Wiley spotted her.  And as you can guess … There’s no stopping him.  He was so excited to see his grandmother,  ran right over to her. How’d that go?  Oh, Nina was really sweet with him.  That’s never been her problem.  No, I guess — I guess not.  Anyway, the last few times we’ve seen each other recently,  Nina and I have gotten along okay.  I thought it’d be rude to send her away.  Especially with Wiley right there.  I get that.  But I just wanted to be upfront with you.  Full disclosure. Right?  Yeah.  I do, um — I do have to say…  I gotta be honest. I don’t — I don’t trust Nina.  And so do I love the idea of her being around our kids?  No, I don’t.  But you’re the one who gets to decide  how much contact you want with your mother.  So whatever you decide, I’ll support.  Thank you.  It means a lot that you said that.  Again, I do have to ask, though.  Um, it seems like a shift.  Suddenly you feel safe around Nina?  What changed?  Finn has been drinking.  Define “drinking.”  When my dad died, Brook Lynn and I got to his apartment.  There was an open bottle of bourbon  that he’d obviously helped himself to.  I got Violet out of there immediately.  Which gave Finn and me a chance to talk.  Did he admit to it?  He said he had a drink, and then he changed it  to “maybe a couple” — he couldn’t remember.  Ugh. That’s not a good sign.  And then Chase caught Finn drinking  at Gregory’s reception.  He had a shot of tequila,  and then I watched him down a second shot,  and then he pulled out some breath spray to cover it up.  So it wasn’t an accident  or a moment of grief-stricken weakness.  Finn is drinking on purpose,  and he doesn’t want us to know about it.  I think it’s time you called it a night.  Are you going to let her order me around like that?  [ Finn mutters ]  Take a hint, sweetheart.  Your man’s moved on.  What’s your name?  Barb.  Go home, Barb. Sleep it off.

[ Scoffs ]  Fine.

You don’t — You don’t live here.  You don’t really love me.  You — You don’t get to judge me anymore.  Finn… you’re drunk…  making out with a complete stranger,  so, yeah, I am judging you.  Where were you? You —  You can’t stand to be around me when I’m grieving!  That is not true.  It is true!  It is true.  So I — I tried to find somebody who could.  There’s not one specific thing  that happened to suddenly change my mind about Nina.  And my mind isn’t completely changed, by the way.  I still take everything she says and does  with a hefty grain of salt.  Something’s changed.  I don’t know how else to explain it,  except…she’s just not trying so hard.  She’s not pushing for more, more, more  like she used to.  And it’s a relief, you know,  to not constantly be throwing up boundaries.  She’s respecting the ones that are already in place.  That’s — That’s — That’s good.  It is good.  I’m not bracing for some big blow-up  every time we see each other.  But nothing actually happened to warrant that?  Your uncle happened.  I know it sounds crazy,  but Nina’s changed, and it’s because of Drew.  So Drew is the devil now? Oh, trust me, Maxie.  I have seen a side of Drew that not many have.  Yeah, front and back, from what you’ve told me.  But there’s also another side of him,  and I’m not just talking about his looks —  because, yes, Drew is objectively handsome.  Duh.  But it’s the way he was with Wiley.  I mean, I’m telling you, that kid lit up  when he was around Drew, and the, you know,  interaction with them, watching that…  It’s kind of a turn-on, huh? Well, you know.  Yeah, well, what I do know is I would like to go home.  Look at Spinelli.  Yes, yes! I would love to look at Spinelli — in my house!  Watching Spinelli playing with your children —  I’m sure that makes him instantly more attractive  in your eyes. Yes, it does.  Which is why I would really, really,  really like to see him tonight.  And even I have to admit  that Drew’s six-pack doesn’t really hurt matters.  Okay, first of all, it is a -pack.  And, second, Nina! What?  Why are you so focused on Drew’s abs  if — and this is a direct quote from you, F.Y.I. —  you do not plan on sleeping with him again?  Well, I’m starting late, so I only have a few months to campaign,  and these are months that I plan to devote  to the launch of the Wellness Division,  which we were going to do together.  And now you want me to do it alone.  Well, you’re gonna have Michael’s support  on the financial end.  I’m gonna pitch in where I can, but I —  I honestly don’t know how much I’m gonna be able to do,  so, yeah, it’s gonna have to be you.  Lead the team, to answer the questions,  talk to the designers and the concept people, you know,  both for the platform and for the brick-and-mortar.  Well, I can handle it.  I have no doubt that you can.  And now that we have talked about the business —  and I know there’ll be more to discuss later —  Drew, there is something  that I want to say to you as a friend.  I think you should do it.  [ Laughs ] Good!  But you got to tell me why.  Well, I think it’ll be good for you,  because deep down inside, you’re an idealist.  You’ve got integrity, right?  Which is increasingly rare in politics.  But integrity alone  isn’t gonna get much done in Washington.  You’re pragmatic. You understand that there’s  gonna be a give and a take.  You’re not afraid to fight,  but you also understand when something’s worth fighting for  and when it isn’t.  Fought for this country. You believe in liberty and justice for all.  I think there should be more people like you in government.  Wow. Really, Nina?!  Unbelievable!  Finn is in denial that he has a problem.  But he is trying to hide that problem.  Because he assumes that it’s going to be a problem for us.  According to Finn, his addiction  is with Zekenestrol, not alcohol.  He only stopped drinking as a precaution.  But he’s decided that he doesn’t need to take that precaution,  that he’s just fine drinking.  Even though he’s made a ton of grandiose pronouncements  that he’s never gonna drink again  and that he’s, you know, working the program, et cetera, et cetera.  but rather than just tell us that he’s changing his mind  or deal with our concern, he’s hiding it!  I can put you in touch  with a counselor or an interventionist.  Our main priority is Violet.  We just want her away from that situation.  Luckily, she’s staying at Maxie’s house tonight,  but that’s not a permanent fix.  She just lost her grandfather.  She’s already lost one parent.  We just want to keep her  in an emotionally stable environment.  That’s all well and good,  but Finn lives for that little girl. We know.  He also has sole custody of her.  He is not gonna respond well when he finds out  that you are trying to get her away from him.  That’s where you come in.  I did not abandon you.  That’s not what I said.  Isn’t it, though?  That I left you high and dry in a time of need?  That’s B.S., Finn, and you would know it  if you weren’t drunk right now.  [ Scoffs ] You’re right.  You’re right. [ Chuckles ]  She didn’t mind, you know? She was — She was open.  Yeah, she said that things have really changed for her  now that Dex has become a cop.  Dex: I like it in here.  Yeah. It’s cool, right?  Trina’s Aunt Stella took us here.  That surprises me.  Well, Stella’s got a lot of friends.  Um, Trina and I met her here for dinner  the night of Brook Lynn’s  bachelorette/bridal shower.  So we ended up having to bail,  but we came back the week after.  Well, I’m always ready to try something new.  And make some new memories?  New memories. Plural?  Yes. Well, saying “a memory” sounded a little bit sad.  Well, I guess what I mean is that another dinner  may be in the cards?  If you play those cards right, maybe.  I’m so excited about  this new spokeswoman position and —  I can tell.  And I’m so grateful to Drew.  He’s been so great,  giving me all the time I need to learn and adjust.  What does this have to do with Nina, though?  I mean, you said that Drew is the reason why Nina’s changed?  Well, I guess that’s not the best way to put it,  but I do think that Drew setting aside his anger at Nina  has allowed her to grow in a way she couldn’t before.  Okay. And I don’t know.  It makes me wonder — if Drew can start fresh with Nina,  maybe I can, too.  Maxie, I am not going to sleep with Drew again,  but I still have eyeballs!  That are apparently glued to Drew’s abs.  Hey. I-I get it. I totally understand.  Oh, really? I’m not judging.  Oh, well, you could have fooled me.  Nina, I just want you to be honest with yourself.  You can’t stop talking  about how wonderful your afternoon was.  Well, that’s because of Willow and Wiley!  Drew had nothing to do with it?  Maxie, you know how I feel about the man.  I think he’s loathsome.  Yes, you have said that.  But from everything else you’ve said,  it suggests otherwise.  No. Drew Cain is a snake.  And he’s completely unprofessional.  I get it. School’s out.  And Violet always has so much fun when she comes over here.  As do all the neglected children of Port Charles,  but I digress.  The idea is for us to tell Finn  that Chase and I are gonna spend some time  at the Quartermaines’ — you know, a few weeks.  It’ll be nice to have some more space and be on the water  and help wrangle all the kids who live here and hang out here.  So many. There’s Leo…  Jake, Aiden, Scout, Danny, James, Georgie.  -Wiley. Amelia. -I get it.  So wouldn’t it be great if Violet could just come  and stay with us for a week or so?  She could be one of the “gang.”  And while she’s away from her father,  you two will have an opportunity to intervene.  The goal is to get Finn into rehab — and he’ll go  once he realizes his behavior is jeopardizing Violet.  I know he’ll do the right thing.  Look, of course, Violet is welcome to stay here.  But when it comes to Finn,  I think you need to be prepared for him to disappoint you.  I think you’re in the wrong apartment.  You’re out of line.  How do you know what I am?  You call this guy?  Do you really think that I would ever hurt you?  Elizabeth, what do you want to do?  Let’s go.  Please don’t go.  Let’s talk when you’re sober.  Hey! And you should.  Finn has to know he’s got family that love him.  More than anything.  But it might be difficult  convincing him to go to rehab.  It could get ugly?  If Finn is in the throes of his addiction,  the only voice he’s gonna be able to hear is his own.  Not only that, he will do and say anything he has to  to not change his behavior, no matter how destructive it is.

[ Glass shatters ]

Maybe I’ll come up with a way to save the planet.  I have no doubt.  I do know one thing, though.  I can see myself dating a cop.  Really?  Now, would that include cadet  or would I need to wait until it’s official?  Gosh, I don’t know. That’s risky because  you don’t even have your badge yet.  But you know me. I’m a risk taker.  In theory, looking to the future sounds — sounds great.  But not as easy to put into practice.  I’m just – I’m surprised that Drew was able to —  I mean, unless — unless he has some other reason  to make nice with Nina.  I think Drew was able to see good in Nina,  despite all she’s done.  And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want to see it, too,  and that sometimes I feel like I do.  Okay.  Okay. Here’s the deal. So…  You spent the afternoon with Wiley and Drew  and, for a part of it, Nina.  And you seem happy.  I am happy.  Good. That’s all I want, Willow.  Just to have everything out in the open with Nina.  No more lies or secrets.  It feels — It feels good.  Does it feel better than…this?

Nothing could feel better than that.  What do you want, Nina?  I want to make it abundantly clear…  that I can’t stand you!  Well, the feeling is more than mutual.  Then why?  Why do I want to do this?

Is there anything I can do for you?  As if you haven’t done enough ?  I mean, I just came and got you.  Exactly. You found me at Finn’s.  You brought me here, patiently letting me talk  without offering “well-intentioned” advice.  Yeah, well, I’m not exactly  in the position to, uh, be giving advice.  Why would you say that?  Because I left you and Sam  to raise our sons on your own.  Because you wanted to?  I didn’t think so.  I don’t know where you’ve been all these years…  …but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t on vacation.

I’m here now.  And I will do whatever I can  to make that time up with Jake.  However you think is best.

Our son needed help.  And he called you.  And you showed up.  That’ll count for a lot with Jake.  Counts for a lot with me.

I know Finn may not want the help,  but we have to at least try.  I agree. So do I!  I’m just telling you —  be prepared for an uphill battle.  I know how bad this can get.  I’ve seen it on the job. Lives and families wrecked by addiction.  And I don’t want this to happen to Violet or Finn.  We won’t let it. Right?  You have my full support.  Thank you, Tracy. That means a lot.  Chase, we’re family.  We’ll tell Finn tomorrow?  Yeah, before Violet gets home from her sleepover.  We just have to hope that he can hear you.

But I am a little confused ’cause I didn’t know the navy seals were training here today. I wish there were seals in here. Both kinds! You know, I’m okay that they’re not. It’s gonna be hard enough getting him out of the water already. Yeah, I hear that. Well, of course

you do. You and wiley are kindred spirits. You and actual seals might be, too. Well, either way, I take that as a compliment. As you should. It’s really good to see you. Oh, good to see you, too. But I am surprised to see you two bobbing around in here. Wiley thinks the hotel pool —

[ Sneezes ] Bless you — is more fun than the one at the quartermaines’. I can’t say he’s wrong. And it is a gorgeous day. Yeah, it really is. I had a similar thought process myself. Great minds. And amelia is loving her swimming lessons, by the way. She is a proud mini-fish. Amazing! So if amelia is a mini-fish, what does that make you? A shark!

[ Willow laughs ] Dex. Hi! Didn’t expect to see you here. When’d you start working at the metro court? Uh, this morning. Can I interest you? Fresh from the dryer. Read my mind. Thanks, man. So olivia put you to work? Good guess. I’m living at the quartermaines’, and I said I was looking for a part-time job, and here I am. Well, olivia did you a favor. There are definitely worse places to work. Oh, yeah. I’m with you there. And olivia even promised me that I could be off duty in time to watch each night of the nba finals, even if it goes to seven games. Hey. Here’s hoping. I know, right? I’ve been following the whole season. Can’t wait for game two of the finals on sunday night. Hey, be warned. The lifeguard is a big sports fan. Oh, yeah? Oh, yeah. She’s fierce — and a terrible loser. So if you’re rooting against her and your team wins… don’t gloat. Chase: I don’t know if I’m being strategic or just avoiding the thing that I dread. Maybe we should have gone to finn’s first like we planned. Well, we still could. What would you say to him? “You son of a bitch. How could you use our dad’s death as an excuse to dive into a bottle?” Not the best approach, huh? Certainly justified, but, um, no, I-I don’t really think that finn would have a good response to that. It’s a sickness. He is sick. He’s sick. It’s not his fault. Addiction is a disease. I know this. I have training for this. And I am still so angry and — and frustrated and disappointed that he would do this to violet — and my dad! Y-you. But frustration and anger will get us exactly nowhere. We need to come up with a plan, a way to confront finn, get him into recovery, and, most of all, protect violet.

[ Rock music plays ] So — so what do we do now? Does somebody come take our order or what? Bartender isn’t even looking this way. So I guess if we want a drink, we got to hit the bar. If we do that, we’ll get carded. You’ll be fine. You have a fake id. But I’ve got nothing. I’ll just be out here twisting. Relax, okay? Nobody ever gets carded here. How do you know? I just know. Okay? Dale? You got this? Yeah. No problem. Three of their best cheap beers coming up. Here’s to ignoring first impressions. Okay. You know, I wasn’t sure I was gonna come over here. I was afraid you were gonna be one of those dark, brooding types. Well, you couldn’t have been too afraid.

[ Chuckles ] Oh, but I was! And then I figured, “what the heck?” And came on over. And I am glad I did because you are all kinds of fun. Really? Huh.

How long this time? Drew: That was like 15 seconds! Is that long enough to be a navy seal? Well, you’re gonna have to hold your breath a little bit longer to be a navy seal, but you got a lot of time to figure that out. Ever since I mentioned your time in the navy to wiley, all he talks about is becoming a navy seal. Aww. He is less certain, though, about what exactly that is. Well, he’s got a lot of time to figure that out, too, but as soon as you figure it all out, the navy is gonna be very lucky to have you. And you’ll be lucky to have drew as your mentor. Will I get a uniform?

[ Gasps ] I am so sorry! Here. Let me help you. I-I don’t know where my mind was at just now. Somewhere good, I hope. Grandma nina! Hey, little guy. It’s so nice to see — oh, let me give you — give you a towel. Whoa! Hey! Look how big you’ve gotten! It is so nice to see you! I don’t know where to start. With finn or with violet? The day my dad died and you took violet to bobbie’s, finn completely broke down, but he knew he screwed up. He told me to pour the rest of the bourbon down the sink. He made a bad choice, but it was like he was getting back on track, and I bought it. I would have thought the same thing. No, you wouldn’T. Look, we have very different experiences with substance abuse, okay? The quartermaines have a lot of history with it, and there was this couple down in bensonhurst. Anyway, I just — I know how to recognize it for exactly what it is. What type of detective am i if I am this naive? Believing in your brother says nothing about your work as a detective. I bought his whole act — the remorse, the resolve to do better. A-and he lied to me. He didn’t do it on purpose. It’s part of the disease. You know, reading about it is one thing, but experiencing it firsthand is another. I keep thinking about when finn was at dad’s memorial and he was shaking hands and wiping away tears, putting on this whole devoted-son act, and then he’d sneak away to the bar and hit a few tequila shots. And for the record, I bought the whole devoted-son act, too. Finn wasn’t necessarily acting. He could be a devoted son in mourning

and an addict who just had a relapse. I defended him to elizabeth. She was worried about him, and I said that everything was okay. You have to give yourself a break, chase. Finn’s not the only one who just lost his dad. You are in mourning, too, and you are way too close to finn and the entire situation to see it clearly. If this was a case, you would take yourself off of it. But it’s not a case. I can’t hand finn off to someone and say, “good luck to the both of ya!” And even if you could, you wouldn’t do it. Because finn’s your brother. You’re right. And I love him. And I want to help him through this, even though I am madder at him than I’ve ever been. No one can disappoint you like the people you love the most. That’s why they call addiction a disease. I know. And when I am less angry, I will remember that he is suffering, too. We both love finn. And we want to treat his situation compassionately. But o-our main priority has to be protecting violet. So how do we shield violet when her father is falling apart? We gotta go. Now. Gordo: Why? What’s wrong? My mom’s boyfriend is here. And if he sees me, I’m dead. What’s he doing here? Thought you said he was a good guy. I-I don’t know. I thought he was.

[Slurring] Hey, uh, I signed up for doctors without borders right out of — right out of med school, right after I graduated. So I’m having drinks with a fun doctor? Lucky me. Did you go anywhere good? No. The good places don’t usually need us. I was on rota. Rota. Uh, mariana islands. Where people shooting at you and stuff? No, no. Not really. Just a lot of people that needed help but didn’t have anywhere else to get it. Our operating room was a tent. You have lived quite the life… …and probably saved quite a few along the way. Not enough. Is that why you’re here in port charles, doctor…? What do you say we just leave the names out of it? I don’t see why not. We’ve been doing just fine without them so far. Mm-hmm. Just think of me as in town visiting family.

[ Chuckles ] How’s that visit going? I’m only asking because you’re sitting in this place with me instead of doing whatever families do when they visit. Just taking in the local sights. You sure are. And I hope you feel welcome. You know, I’m also hoping… there’s something

I’m sorry. He was just coming out — grandma nina’s here! At the pool! I can see that, sweetie. Hi, nina. Willow, hi. It’s nice to see you. Are you going swimming? Uh, well, I don’t think I’m dressed for swimming. I actually came here to look for your uncle drew. But you know what? Maybe some other time, okay? Sure. Swimming’s always good. Oh, I think so, too. The quartermaines have a big pool, too, and they have a big float thing that looks like a duck. You can go swimming there.

I do! Uh, well, we’ll see about that, okay? Okay. Drew: Hey. I heard you were looking for me. What do you need? You smell like chlorine. You know, there’s a, um — there is a pre-swim lotion you can put on your skin. It prevents the chlorine from absorbing. Is that something you learned from the navy?

[ Chuckles ] No. I actually read it in crimson. You ran a few ads about that, didn’t you? Or am I just — just imagining things?

Oh, dex, I heard about what happened to you at brook lynn’s wedding reception. That — that’s insane. Uh, yeah. It was — a little. But it’s over and I’m okay. Thanks to joss. She’s the one who took me to the E.R. And made me wait to get stitches. I would have gone home, put some ice on it, and probably would have wound up with a scar. Well, some people say that a scar makes you look a little daring. Yeah, but then people ask how you got it, and I’d have to explain it. Some things are best left forgotten. Brook lynn: Here you go. Uh, thanks, babe, but I’m not that hungry. I know, but you got to keep your strength up. Wow. Thought I’d have more time before I became my mother. There are worse things, like… sitting around feeling helpless. I just lost my dad. I can’t risk losing my brother, too, and I can’t let violet get caught up in his mess. I thought that she’d be reason enough for him to get back on the wagon. Well, she hasn’t been so far. You’re right. A person can’t be an addict’s only incentive to get sober. We have to do more than just cross our fingers and pray that things don’t go from bad to worse. Look, if finn’s in denial about his drinking, he’s certainly not gonna think there are any problems when it comes to violet. How’s violet gonna feel about whatever we decide to do? How does this end without one or both of them hating us? Finn is gonna hate whoever makes him confront his drinking, and there is absolutely nothing we can do about that. And, yeah, violet might think she hates us for a little while. Well, it’s better than leaving her with her father! Wow. Can’t believe I just said that. Well, if you hadn’t, I would have. See? Told you we wouldn’t get carded! Good job, dale. Ugh. Best money could buy. Well, our money anyway. Will you chill out? Drink your beer. The last thing I need is for finn to see me drinking. Yeah, he’s really taking in the beauty of this place. I mean, come on, that guy hasn’t looked at anything but that woman in half an hour. I’m not sure he knows there is anything else in this bar. Shut up. His dad just died.

[Sarcastically] He looks real sad. You don’t know. Okay? And this — this doesn’t mean anything. He would never do this to my mom. Woman: There must be other things you’re dying to see besides the inside of this bar. I can think of a few things that might spark your interest. Excuse me. Are there, uh — are there any liquor stores around this establishment? Not really. Not really? How about — how about that bottle there? That’s a — ththat’s a nice bottle. Would you be willing to part with it? We’re not supposed to. I know. I know that. But, uh… how do you feel about that bottle now?

[ Trina gasps ] Ooh! I am so sorry! It’s okay. F-for some reason, I’m like a human bumper car today. No. No, no. You’re — it’s okay. You’re okay. It’s fine. It’s not. But I promise I’m not always such a klutz.

[ Chuckles ] Uh… I was just going to check in with josslyn. Oh, um — well — ooh. Um, actually, I would probably hold off if I were you. Um, those two used to be together, and now they’re not, and… but it looks like they’re patching things up. It’s obvious they still like each other.

[ Chuckles ] That’s what I keep trying to tell them. I love them, but they’re exhausting. Well, I come from a long line of nosy italians, so I have to ask. Why did they break up in the first place? Uh — well, I don’t really know all of the details, but it had something to do with josslyn’s stepfather. Well, technically ex-stepfather, which is bonus points for josslyn. Sonny corinthos is basically awful. Does trina know everything that went down between me and sonny? I told her that sonny assaulted you. I didn’t get into the details, and I probably won’T. Sonny tracked me down in the park the other day. Oh. Well, I don’t see any fresh wounds or bullet holes, so I guess that’s progress. He told me that the bad blood between us is done and I’m free to live my life however I want, even become a cop. Wow. I mean, you don’t need his permission, but I’m a little surprised. I was surprised, too.

[ Chuckles ] Do you believe him? I mean, it’s the least he could do after trying to kill you. But it’s sonny, so… I believe that sonny hates me, nut I also believe he’s taken the target off my back. Well, that’s a relief. You can finally breathe. Yeah. Me too. I mean, I guess it’s a fair trade. I mean, you don’t press charges and he leaves you alone. I’m just ready to put sonny and whatever he does or doesn’t do behind me. Just focus on what’s in front of me ’cause that’s all that matters. Drew: Alright. Come on, my future frogman. Let’s let these two talk lotions. Wiley: Yes, please! Let’s get in there! You and drew seem to be working pretty well together. Hm. Yeah, it’s amazing how perspectives can change. Drew and I r-respect each other as professionals, and that’s been nice. However you managed it, you seem like you got to a more peaceful place. You both look happier. Well, I’m certainly on board for more peace. He is so good with wiley and amelia. And, of course, his own daughter. Yeah. He really is. I’ve never seen drew cain like this. You gotta be kidding me! She cannot protect herself, so we’re going to. She’s got a passport, doesn’t she? I assume so, but I’m not sure. Okay. It doesn’t matter. If we need one, we will get one. Why exactly does violet need a passport? Because we are going to take violet with us to italy while finn is at rehab. What’s that saying about seeing the world through a child’s eyes? I don’t know, but I know the saying about abducting a minor and taking them across state and international lines. It’s a felony. We’re not kidnapping violet. See, I’m pretty sure finn’s gonna say we did in court. Look, I love that you are willing to bring violet on our honeymoon, but finn is never gonna go for it and violet would never go if finn’s not 100% behind it. And if we’re being honest, I don’t think child abduction is the answer to all of our problems. What if we keep it local? Like a scavenger hunt where finn goes around town looking for his own child? Okay, I can tell by the tone in your voice that you are not completely on board. It’s a terrible plan. It’s actually one of your most troubling. Your family would be proud. You always know just what to say. And I know you came up with that plan just to take the edge off. Did it work? No. But I love you for it anyway. Sonny corinthos is josslyn’s ex-stepfather? Yes. [ Chuckles ] Uh… my family thinks uncle sonny is second only to the pope in terms of greatness.

Uncle sonny? Well, he’s not really my uncle. More like my benefactor. He’s been really good to me. Okay, well, I’m happy for you, but pretty much everyone in port charles has an opinion about sonny. Some good, some bad. I just know that there’s some bad history when it comes to joss. I’m sorry to hear about that. But now that we got that settled, tell me — why did you have such a weird look on your face when we first met? Did I do something? Or have we run into each other before?

[ Keys jingle ] Those your things from your border work? Oh. I’m sorry. What? These boxes — are they your doctors without borders stuff? It’s hard to believe I lived that life. I’m talking super-sketchy. And we saw finn coming out. Are you sure it was finn? Positive. And, um… he wasn’t alone. Oh great. He’s found himself a drinking buddy. Sort of. He was with this lady. Like “with her” with her. And it was pretty obvious that he’d been drinking with her.

I’m sorry, mom. You have nothing to apologize for. I didn’t want to tell you, but I had to, right? You absolutely had to. I’m really glad you did. Thank you. Sure. I’ll handle this when I’m done here. I don’t know, mom. That might not be the greatest idea right now. Don’t worry. Don’t worry. I-I got this. I’ll see you at home. Okay? Okay. It’s jake. My mom’s got a — a situation. She needs you. There’s got to be something we can do that doesn’t end with us spending our honeymoon in separate prison cells, fighting assorted felony charges. Okay. What if we make something happen at the q’s house that violet just won’t want to miss? I’m listening. We tell her that all the kids are out of school, that there’s tennis a-and swimming and horseback riding and barbecues every night. Like a summer camp. Exactly! Okay. That sounds promising. Are we just talking about this or are we doing it? Oh, we are doing it, baby. And all the quartermaine adults will take turns, you know, on supervising shifts, work schedules permitting. Okay. Because of my dad, I have some time off I could use. Yeah, and I can work from anywhere. So we’ll just say that we’re spending a few weeks at the quartermaines’. And there will be a bunch of cousins and pseudo-cousins and assorted rugrats running around playing with violet. Not bad, huh? No, that’s good. Yeah. I’ll, uh — I’ll talk to finn tomorrow, assuming that he is sober. And with violet safe with the q’S. We can do some kind of intervention with finn, get him to see what kind of trouble he’s in. Are you sure your family’s gonna be okay with this? I can’t imagine tracy will be. I mean, it’s a lot. Then we’ll tell her the truth privately. Look. Tracy and finn are friends. She should know anyway that her friend is in trouble. And then she can help us get the rest of the family on board. That might be a leap. Maybe. But at the end of the day, every last quartermaine is gonna be doing this, no matter what it takes.

[ Laughs ] Sorry. Uh, lotion. It’s called dermapool, and it’s fantastic. It’s shea butter and green leaf extract in it. And it leaves a moisturizing coating on the skin. And the vitamin c neutralizes the chlorine. Olympic swimmers swear by it, and we had medalists that actually were part of the ad campaign at crimson, and they were great and — oh, and it also helps with pool rash and swim hair and… wait. Swim hair? What — oh, you know, how chlorine can change some hair green. I didn’t know it had an official name. Yeah. Yeah. You know what?

Crimson has boxes of dermapool in its storage. You know, why don’t I just send you over a couple of boxes? Or, you know, wait. I-I can really overdo it sometimes. The last thing you need is a truckload of product showing up on your doorstep. It’s okay. Gio: Sorry about that. The way these people go through towels, you would think they’ve never saw one before. People go wild when they’re not the ones doing the fluffing and the folding.

[ Chuckles ] That makes sense. Now, at the risk of trying your patience, are you sure we’ve never met before? I-I’m positive I’d remember someone like you. No, no, I promise. We haven’T. Really. But, um, I will admit that… if I look at you just the right way, like, out of the corner of my eye, you do look like someone I used to be, um… close to. Why “used to be”? Why aren’t you guys close anymore? He died. I…I’m sorry. I’m — I’m an idiot. No, I just — you know what? Um, I’ll — I’ll just — I…

[ Chuckles ] Okay, wiley. We have to get home. Mommy’s got a date. I don’t like that idea. It’s a date with daddy. He’s taking me to dinner. Okay, then.

[ Laughs ] Well, I’m glad you approve. Are you going anywhere fun? I have no idea. It’s a new place michael wants to try. Oh. Nice. Well, I’m sure wherever you go, it’s gonna be lovely. I should get back to crimson before they send out a search party. We still have some wrinkles to iron out before we lock the next issue. It was really, really great spending some time with you. [ Chuckles ] Yeah. Um, I hope that this is the start of an incredible summer for you and amelia, and I hope that you have lots of adventures and lots of fun and lots of swimming. I already told my mom that I’m going to swim every day this summer.

Um, I think it’s best if I just go home. Hey, listen. I’m gonna be off soon. And we can go somewhere. We could talk. We could go see a movie. Whatever you want. Did something happen? No, not really. I think that grief just snuck up on her. It’s gonna take her a while to get over spencer. Yes. It is. She really loved him. She still does. I feel so bad for her. There have been some big losses lately. What I keep trying to say but keep screwing up is that… every moment is precious, okay? We both know that life is short, so… have dinner with me. I wish there was something we could do to fix finn right now. Me too. But we can’t lock him in a cage for his own good. I desperately want him to stop drinking before he hits rock bottom. I know. We just need to remind him that the stakes are different for him than they are for other people. Look, on top of everything else, finn is a doctor at G.H. People know him from there. If he keeps this up, word’s gonna get out. If finn does something that he truly regrets and can’t take back, he’ll never recover. There will be nothing left of the finn we knew and loved.

Hey, um, you know, it was great seeing jason at brook lynn’s wedding, but I haven’t heard from him since. Have — have you seen him lately? No. That was the last time I saw him, too. Oh. Curious. I-it appears there’s some discord between jason and sonny, which in the former days would have been unthinkable. But details are scarce, as jason is being predictably tight-lipped about it. But I’m worried, and I know I’m not the only one — cannonball! No, no! Stop right here, mister!

[ Gasps ] Violet! Finn: It’s okay. Dad would have liked knowing his memorial was a lively affair.

[ Sighs ] I’m really sorry for your loss. Thank you. Maxie. How are you guys doing? We’re hanging in there. Trying to, anyway. Um, I’m sorry about your dad, too. Thank you, georgie. I appreciate that. We’re going to the pool, and we’re hoping it’s still okay for violet to come. Well, it’s up to violet. Do you still want to go, sweetheart? Yes, please. Okay, well, as long as it’s okay with maxie. Oh. Yeah. Absolutely. I will take them to the pool, let them exhaust themselves, and then we can do dinner and ice cream before we have a movie night and a sleepover. Wow! That sounds really nice. Well, violet’s bathing suit and her overnight bag are in chase’s car, so I’ll just go grab that. Maxie: Okay. No, I’ll go. It’s fine. Y-you sure? Yep. I’m getting it. Finn: Okay. How’d it sound? [ Chuckles ] Why mess with perfection? Can you send marv on a break, please? Do you want to go ahead and take five? And then, um, you know what? Let’s save that last one and make sure you sweeten it ’cause that’s the one. Okay. Got it. I know this isn’t exactly my area of expertise, but… shouldn’t you let allie decide what she wants? It’s her music. I…know my daughter. She is a perfectionist and she is never satisfied with any of her takes, so… and she loves to question my opinion. But I’ve been in the studio with her plenty, and, uh, I’m never wrong. Hm. But, I mean, allie is the artist, so wouldn’t she know what she wants and whether or not she’s gotten it yet? Yeah, she’s the artist, but I’m the mother. And trust me — she — she’s gonna another few takes and then she’ll play around with those takes, and she always comes around. She ends up agreeing with my assessment every time. I’m really glad that you were able to pop in today. I thought, uh, that we heard you weren’t coming. Yeah, well, I wanted to be here to support allie, so I switched some things around in my day so that I could be here to support her. I know I caught you by surprise, but it’s okay with me. After all, I’ve only ever been a surprise to you, right? James, is it? Well, james, you’re lucky. If I hadn’t grabbed you, you would have made such a big splash that you would have drenched everyone around the pool. Yes, or you could have hit your head on the bottom of the pool since you were diving into the shallow end. Yeah. Remember we talked about this, buddy? You could’ve been hurt — or, at the very least, banned from this water wonderland. You don’t want that, right? No. I was just really excited to go in the pool. Hey. How about this? If you’re really careful and you follow all the rules for the rest of the day, I’ll make sure you get off with just a warning. Really? Yes. If you behave. I will. Okay. Well, that is most generous of you both. I’ll make sure james is a perfect angel the rest of the day, right, bud? Alright. Come on. Giovanni palmieri?!

[ Chuckles ] Good memory. Yes, well, it’s hard to forget the way you played at that wedding. And I think a few of your family members may have mentioned you by name. Oh, god. What did they say? Mm-hmm. Oh, they just said that you were a genius who played like an angel.

[ Chuckles ] I — I’m sorry. Don’t be. You can’t help what they say about you. I’m just a little confused at what such a genius that plays like an angel is doing working as a pool attendant.

My aunt olivia is one of the owners. She got me the job. Wow. That’s a long commute from bensonhurst. It’s a good thing I’m local. Oh. What about you? I’m also a local. My mom co-owns the hotel with olivia. I guess that makes you carly spencer’s daughter. Yes. Guilty as charged. I’ve heard a lot about your mom from my aunt olivia. Yeah, I mean, they’re — they’re really good friends. I know they’re super-excited to be running this place together again. I guess that makes us both nepo hires. Whoa. Speak for yourself. My aunt olivia didn’t hire me because we’re family. She made me sit down for an interview, and I had to be on my best behavior and impress her. Wow. Yeah. No. And she put me on probation for the first month. God. All that after pulling through for your family at that wedding? Two totally separate things. My family has total faith in my musical abilities. Not so much when it comes to hourly employment. Hmm. Most of my cousins had jobs, but my aunt said that it would cut into my practice time. And olivia is breaking with tradition by putting me to work here. Well, all of that practice time when your cousins were working really paid off. I mean, you’re amazing. I don’t know if you’re an angel or a genius, but you’re really good. I mean, why are you slumming it down in port charles when you should be blowing up carnegie hall? Okay, now that violet is out of earshot, you can be totally honest. If you want her to stay, I can come up with an excuse to make it look like it’s my fault so you’re not the bad guy. And I could tell georgie so there’s no blowback. You know , t-that’s verythoughtful of you, maxie, but, um, I think it’d be good for violet to be around friends. She could probably use a break from all this. Okay. As long as you’re sure. Yeah, it’ll give me a chance to go through some of my dad’s things. I-I don’t want violet watching me getting my dad’s clothes together to donate, you know? She’ll probably want to keep everything, and it’s gonna be really hard on her. Yeah, that kind of thing is difficult at any age, but especially if you’re a kid. Mm. You know, finn, I could help you go through gregory’s clothes if you want. You know? It’s gonna be hard. It’s not something you should do on your own. Maybe you, me, and chase can do it together. Get each other through it. Yeah, no. Thank you, brook lynn. Um, I think I’d just like to do it on my own. You know, for — for what it’s worth, when my sister died and I had to pack up her stuff, I thought I wanted to do it alone, but if I didn’t have spinelli there by my side, I probably wouldn’t have gotten done everything I needed to. What I’m trying to say is, finn, y-you do have people that want to help you. Maybe let them. Yeah, I don’t — I don’t need any help. Maybe I’m just better at handling these kind of things. Yeah. Of course. I’m so sorry. No, it’s okay. No, in situations like these, everyone just needs to do what feels best for them. I know. Yeah. All of violet’s things should be in here, but you can call us if you need anything else. I’m sure everything will be fine. And if violet needs anything, she could borrow it from georgie. Okay? Okay. I mean, I think you should just be honest. I don’t want us to have any misunderstandings between us. I doubt that could happen. You’re about as subtle as a brick. You always make sure I know exactly how you feel. Well, you say that like it’s a bad thing, but I honestly feel like that’s a compliment because I’m just not in the habit of — of repressing my feelings to make other people feel comfortable. Honestly. I just feel like it’s better to be honest, right, so that everybody knows exactly where they stand, don’t you? Yeah. No. I-I definitely think honest communication is valuable. But I was raised that honesty without tact equals cruelty. Wow. Okay. So…

[ Clears throat ] You’re saying I’m rude or cruel or both? I didn’t say you were either. I just — I’m confused. For a woman who prides herself on such candor, you wouldn’t just come right out and say you don’t want me here. Be honest. You’d rather I leave, right? Well, I — you know what? I’ll admit — there are a lot of things about your relationship with alison that I wish were different, but I am also very aware of the fact that I don’t have any control over that. She’s a grown woman, and she makes her own choices. But I’m also not gonna pretend like… your new role in my daughter’s life isn’t a surprise. And I’m — I’m still adjusting to that reality, okay? But, also, I believe that you are a lovely, unquestionably selfless young woman with a really bright future. Thank you. You — you may not be exactly who I would have expected my alison to choose as a partner. I mean, but look — I’ll bet you a lot of mothers don’t feel that way when their daughters introduce them to someone special. Yeah, I’m sure my mom would say the same thing. I’m sure she would. Good moms always look out for their kids, no matter how old they are. You know, I’ve — I’ve come to realize how deeply alison cares for you, and I can — I can see it all over her face every time she looks at you. So I’m trusting you. I’m trusting you to put her feelings before yours when the time comes for you two to part ways, which you inevitably will.

Are you crying, daddy? No. Maybe just a little. Um… but just because I have the sweetest daughter in the whole world and I am so proud of you. And these aren’t sad tears. And I don’t want you to ever worry about me. But I heard you worry about me. Yeah, well, that’s my job. I-I’m your dad. That’s what we’re supposed to do. Daughters have jobs, too. Oh, yeah? What’s that? To make sure their dads aren’t lonely. Well, you are doing a very good job at that. As a matter of fact… I can’t remember the last time I felt lonely. Really? Really. Matter of fact, you’re doing such a good job, I think you deserve a break. So I’m putting you on sabbatical. What’s a sabbatical? Sabbatical is when you go on a really long vacation and you can relax the whole time because you know your job’s gonna be waiting for you when you get back. How long will my sabbatical be? Hmm. How do you feel about 20 years? Dad!

No, I’m still on leave, but, um… I really want to get home and start… packing up, uh, dad’s stuff. I don’t want violet to have to see that anymore. Uh, but, look, let’s get together tomorrow. Let’s get together this week, alright? Please take good care of him. I will. I know. You know, I-I told finn that, um, we could help him go through your dad’s stuff earlier when it came up, but he was really clear it’s something he wants to do on his own, so… yeah, I think he, uh… just wants to be alone so he can drink in peace. Allie and I are really happy together. Why would you imply we would break up? Because allie cares for you so very much, and her career is at a precipice right now. She is poised to jump to the next level. And when those opportunities start rolling in for her and she is so close to her lifelong dream, she’s gonna be torn. It’s gonna be very painful for her to make a choice between seizing that moment, which may never come again, and choosing to stay with you here. But you have the power to alleviate that pain. You can actually take that choice out of her hands. If you could just… if you could let alison go gracefully…

[ Scoffs ] Look. I know. I know it’ll be hard for both of you. I know it’ll be painful, but you know this is the best decision for my daughter! You don’t know that. Because you can’t predict the future.

[ Groans ] I don’t need to be a fortune-teller to be able to see that the path the two of you are going down is gonna end in some kind of pain and disappointment for both of you. Look, I’m just telling you, as a mother, I’m trying to head that off at the pass. I’m trying to protect my daughter. You’re gonna learn soon enough that that is what mothers do. Carnegie hall is always on my mind. I dream of playing at lincoln center, too. Uh, it’s impossible not to when you grow up in brooklyn. But as of right now, I’m just focused on getting my gershwin in shape for summer stage. Wait. You’re doing the concert in the park? A solo here and there. People camp out, like, days in advance for those tickets! Yeah. Getting your hands on tickets is pretty hard. Unless you know someone who has comps. Josslyn: Okay. I don’t want to put you on the spot, but I’m gonna put you on the spot. Can you get me in? Uh, depends. Can you spell me picking up wet towels and maybe sweeping the pool area?

[ Scoffs ] Lifeguards don’t sweep. Oh! Oh, my god! I’m so sorry! That was a total accident!

[ Both laughing ] Oh, my god. Do I — do I get hazard pay for this?

[ Laughter ] I’m so sorry! Josslyn! Oh, my god. Hey. What’s so funny?

[ Laughter ] Oh, god. I’m so embarrassed. Here. You lifeguards don’t know your own strength. Look, if anyone asks why the new pool attendant decided to take a swim fully clothed, I will take full responsibility. Deal. Well, now that we got that settled, how about an introduction? Absolutely. This is trina robinson, my very best friend. Trina, this is giovanni palmieri. He’s brook lynn’s cousin. Call me gio. H-hi. Um, I’m sorry. I — it’s nice to meet you. You, as well. Uh, I apologize if I got any water on you, but in my defense, I’m soaking wet because of your friend josslyn. Hey! It was an accident. Even though I have a feeling you’re not gonna let me forget it. Me? Gio is that amazing violinist I told you about that played at brook lynn and chase’s wedding. Oh! Oh, y-yeah. Joss told me that you were incredible. She’s exaggerating. I thought I was a little rough that day. Okay, well, if that’s true, you were the only one who noticed. And you were good enough to get a solo at summer stage, although I won’t know how good you are until you get me those tickets. Don’t worry. I’ll follow through. I’ve seen what you can do! I don’t want to get on your bad side. Alright. Very funny.

[ Laughter ] And if for some reason it doesn’t work out, you’ll have plenty of chances to see me perform at pcu this year. Wait. You’re going to school here?!

[ Chuckles ] I am. Hopefully that means we’ll all be seeing more of each other. James: Mom, get your swimsuit on. You have to come in the pool with us. Yeah. We want to have chicken fights with you. Yeah. Aww. Absolutely not. Spinelli: Oh! Maxie: I spent way too much time on my hair and makeup today to get wet. Mom! You’re no fun! Don’t worry. We’ll lure her in one way or another. Uh, no, you will not. And if I even get misted, there will be dire consequences for all of you. We have the whole rest of the summer to make it happen. And your mother has proven powerless in the face of my considerable charm.

[ Laughs evilly ] Can I come sit with you? Sure! Was the water too cold? No, it was nice. Well, you don’t have to do the chicken fights if you don’t want to. I like chicken. O-kay. Why don’t you want to get in the pool? I keep thinking about my dad. Do you think he’s okay? Finn thought he was alone, and I watched him down two shots of tequila, one after another. He couldn’t down ’em fast enough! And then he pulled out some breath spray to cover up the scent like he planned it. Like he meant to drink — and hide it.

[ Sighs ] You don’t seem surprised. I wish I was. I was worried something like this would happen. And you didn’t say anything?! It was just a feeling I had. Look. I was hoping that I was wrong. I didn’t think it was my place to say anything. I was hoping that — that you knew your brother better than I do. Well, obviously I don’T. In fact, I’m wondering if I even know finn at all. Thanks. I’m glad we’re all on the same page. Absolutely.

[ Chuckles ]

[ Sighs ] Well, you’ll be happy to hear that the three of us are in agreement. There’s no need to do another take. The one you liked was great. Go ahead. Say, “I told you so.” No, I don’t need to gloat. You just — you sang that one so beautifully and so truthfully. There just was no doubt in my mind that that was the one. And I am quite sure that brook lynn’s gonna agree. Thank you, mummy. Um, what did kristina say to you? Um, about the song? No, in general. I said the two of you were chatting. I just wanted to know what you guys were talking about. Oh. Yeah. You know, not — not much. But, then, kristina’s not here to see me, now, is she? I’m gonna go and listen to my daughter’s perfect voice before we wrap up here, and I’ll send kristina in ’cause I’m sure she’s gonna want to tell you how much she loves it. Thank you. Hi. Hi. You were really getting into that song. It took me a couple of tries to really feel it. You know, after the way we left things, I’m kind of surprised to see you here. Yeah, I’m sure you are. I wasn’t planning on coming, but I couldn’t put this off any longer. Put what off? My apology. I have to tell you how sorry I am and ask you for your forgiveness.

I overreacted. A lot. I was upset when you told me that you filled molly in on everything that happened after the wedding, but that’s not an excuse. I never should have yelled at you and stormed out like that. I should have just stayed and given you the benefit of the doubt and tried to work it out together. Thank you for saying that. I’ve been sick over it. I’ve tried calling you, like, a hundred times, but I wasn’t sure you’d pick up. I mean, you have to know that I never meant to betray your confidence or hurt you in any way. No, I know. I do know that. I was just shocked, honestly. And I could blame it on the hormones, but… I would probably react the same exact way, just as emotionally, even if I wasn’t pregnant. It’s really sensitive for me when we talk about my dad. I know. But I did talk to molly. She said that you really did not want to talk to her about what happened… and she had to pry it out of you. I felt like I was being cross-examined. I know. I should have just been upfront with molly myself and told her what my dad did. I shouldn’t have expected you to keep the secret for me or gotten so upset with you when you couldn’T. Acting like we had this shared code of silence and then treating you like an enemy because you broke it? That’s — that’s what my dad does. And I-I don’t want to be like that. I’m sorry. I know how hard this is. What did finn say when you brought it up to him? I thought it would be a mistake to confront finn in public, especially with violet here. I didn’t want to make things worse. But I don’t know. Maybe it was the wrong call. No. Don’t second-guess yourself. Look, you had to make a decision in a — in a split second, and you did what you thought was best. How did I not see this? I’m a detective. I spend my days questioning people, gathering evidence, putting puzzle pieces together. I have seen people do awful things when they are hurting, a-and I know how much dad’s death is affecting finn, and I still didn’t realize that he is lying to me! Alcoholics are very good at deception. But he’s my brother. I should have seen through the lies, but instead I let myself be completely fooled. You are mourning, yourself, chase. And you trusted your brother because he’s given you years of reasons to do so. Listen to me, okay? The most important thing is now you know and we can move forward from here. But, please, stop being so hard on yourself. You’re right. The most important thing is — is we figure out how to help finn. Yes. I need to talk to him… let him know that I am there for him, have it out with him. If it comes to that. I-I need to hear it in his words why he’s drinking again and — and lying about it. [ Door opens ] So, what made you want to enroll at pcu? Uh, they recruited me, actually. Yeah, I was fourth chair at the conservatory when pcu called, and… they got this huge endowment to expand their music program, um, invited me to audition, and wound up offering me a full ride and first chair in summer stage. Wow. Uh, yeah. It’s an — it’s an amazing opportunity. I’m really lucky. Or really talented. Look. I have no doubt you’re gonna be amazing at pcu. But a word of caution — they always put their scholarship students in the absolute worst dorm. Yeah, be prepared to take the fastest shower of your life because the hot water. Runs out in, like, 30 seconds. But, honestly, all the dorms are pretty bad, which is why trina and i are looking at apartments off campus. Well, I appreciate the heads-up, but I’m staying at the quartermaines’. Oh. Well, they

definitely have the room. Yeah, ned offered me the apartment over the garage, but aunt olivia and lois insisted I live in the house. And, um, how well do you actually know the quartermaines? I know they can be a little overwhelming, but, uh, I love the noise and the togetherness of living with a big family. It makes me feel like I’m back home. It may not be a typical college experience, but, uh, I’m actually enjoying it. And how much time have you spent with tracy? Not a lot, but I’ve been warned. Ohh! [ Laughs ] Yeah. Brook lynn says that she — she likes music, so maybe — I don’t know — that’ll score me a few points. Well, actually, I work at an art gallery, and we’re throwing a big reception for this amazing new artist and we’re looking for live music that won’t overpower people’s conversation. Could be good exposure for you. Something that you would be interested in, maybe? Definitely. I’m — I’m trying to make as much money as I can this summer to get me through the school year. Yeah. Uh, can I give you my number? Sure.

Why won’t scout play with us anymore? He has something called osteoarthritis pain. It’s joint pain that hurts him all the time. Come on, scout. Now, there’s librela. My number-one rule when we got together was that we are open and honest with each other, but the second that would have presented some discomfort with molly, I threw that rule right out the window. I never should have expected you to keep my secret for me. And I shouldn’t have gotten upset with you when you couldn’T. That wasn’t fair. I’m not angry. I get why you did that. You were just shielding the baby from any fallout with molly and tj, thinking like a mother would. It’s okay. I -I forgive you. Thank you for being so understanding. Alright. Well, my break went way too fast. I’m so jealous of you. You get to just lie down. I should probably help poor gio.

[ Both chuckle ] He’s nice, right? And he’s super-talented. I mean, I cannot wait for you to see him play. Yeah, he seems cool. Are you okay? You seemed a bit frazzled when you got here. Yeah, it’s just that, um… when spencer first died, I-I thought I saw him everywhere — on the street, at bobbie’s, even at the gallery. And it hasn’t happened in a while. And I-I — and I thought that my mind finally accepted that spencer’s gone. But when gio stepped out of the pool, it, um — yeah, I know. Whoo-hoo-hoo! Georgie: We’ve got you! Oh, I’m surrounded!

[ Laughs ] Mommy didn’t even bring her swimsuit. Oh, well, you know what? There’s always tomorrow or the next day. Or any day after that. You promise? I’m not going anywhere. And neither is your mom.

[ Gasps ] Except in this pool someday very soon.

[ All laugh ] Hmm. I think that your dad is just sad about his dad. I know this is probably hard to understand, but you can be sad and okay at the same time. I think that’s uncle chase. And there’s something different about my dad, even when he acts happy like everything’s okay. Yeah, well, sometimes parents will act happier than they feel because they don’t want to worry their kids. I don’t think it’s working. I’m still worried about him. It’s my job. And he’s still alone, at home. Grown-ups definitely like being by themselves sometimes. Look, if you don’t want to sleep over, I can take you home. But I know your dad loves you so much. And he’s probably really glad that you’re hanging out with friends and having some fun. That way, if he is sad and wanting to be by himself, he won’t be making you sad, too. What’ll it be? Tequila. I know you’re just trying to make sense of it all, but I don’t think that we should attribute finn’s drinking solely to the fact that today was a hard day for him. It may be more than that, but we’re not gonna know until you talk to him. And I-I’m happy to go with you, unless it’s something you want to do on your own. No, no. I want you there. Well, then that’s where I’ll be. Look, I do think that your instincts were good. I think we should start by telling finn that we know that he’s drinking again and lying about it. We’ll see how he responds, and we’ll go from there. We won’t be doing him any favors if we make excuses for him. What if he makes them himself? I need to go in with a plan. I need to know exactly how to help finn if he won’t listen to me. Chase… I know that this is hard to hear, but if finn wants to keep drinking, there may not be anything else we can do to help him. God, I hate this! I-I feel so helpless! When it comes to finn, we might be. But not violet, okay? There is still plenty we can do to help that little girl. And we’re gonna need to step up, especially if — if what? Chase… with finn’s current state, you don’t think that he would ever do anything to put that little girl in harm’s way, do you?
