Brady and Ava were having a conversation when Kristen showed up at the townhouse looking for Rachel. She demanded to know where Rachel was. Brady told her that she wasn’t there. Rachel disappeared from the DiMera mansion. Kristen told him that she took her phone and clothes with her. She was determined to find their daughter. They made phone calls to look for Rachel. Tate showed up at the hospital to be with Sophia. She admitted that she lied about the appointment because she didn’t want her mother to be there. Tate assured her that Kayla is a good doctor and that she’s in good hands. Kayla met with the teens. She asked Tate if Theresa knew about the baby yet. Tate caught her up to speed about what’s been going on. Kayla wondered if they thought about adoption since abortion wasn’t an option. Tate and Sophia were okay with it, but they weren’t sure how her parents would react to it. Kayla was proud of him for standing by Sophia. He wasn’t sure how much longer Holly would be able to handle everything. Kayla left to start examining Sophia. Later, Tate and Sophia saw the ultrasound and were moved by it. Kayla assured them that everything looked good so far. She went to get the picture printed, and they were overwhelmed. Holly gave Doug the money he needed. He was grateful to her for the money. She let him know that she was using it for her senior trip, but she didn’t want to go because of what’s happening with Tate and Sophia. Doug promised to pay her back in time for her to go on her trip. He was going to the park to pay the henchmen back. Holly was determined to go with him. He told her that it was dangerous so they argued about it. Doug tried to convince her to stay safe. Later Doug arrived at the park, and Holly followed him. He wanted her to hide while he talked to the thugs. She was about to hide when one of the thugs saw her. Doug told the guy to stay away from her, but she snapped at him for beating someone up over money. He gave the thug the money and thought they were even. After the guy left, Doug questioned Holly for mouthing off. She thought the worst was over now that he’s paid the money back.

Leo put it together that the shirt Javi wore belonged to Kerry. He decided to treat Javi and Kerry to lunch. Kerry was annoyed, and Marlena was confused by the invitation. They sat together, and Leo left the table. He texted Marlena to walk away from the table and meet him. Kerry was upset and let Javi know once Leo and Marlena left the table. Leo told Marlena that Kerry was Lady Whistleblower. He was determined to get proof that he’s the culprit. Marlena and Leo went back to the table. He told Kerry and Javi about plans for the storyline he wanted to write for the soap. Leo told them about the Devil possession storyline. Javi was confused by the story, so Leo told him what happened to Marlena. Marlena didn’t want to talk about her possession anymore. Kerry wanted to leave. Once Javi and Kerry left, Marlena wondered why she told them about her possession. Leo said it was a ruse to set up Kerry to see if he would leak the story. Javi and Kerry went back to his place and started making out. He put the brakes on and upset Kerry. Javi decided they should go to his room. He went first while Kerry stayed behind to leak the story Leo told him. He went upstairs to be with Javi. Leo and Marlena waited to see if the plan worked. They saw Lady Whistleblower’s new column. The column revealed the Devil possession storyline. Leo realized that Kerry was busted. Brady told the police that Rachel was missing. Ava wanted to help, but Kristen wanted her to stay out of it. She blamed her for Rachel’s disappearance. Kristen yelled at Ava when Marlena arrived at the townhouse. She wanted to know what happened. Brady told her that Rachel was missing. Leo burst in on Javi and Kerry while they were in bed. He said he was there to expose Lady Whistleblower.

At the DiMera mansion, Jada orders EJ to tell her where Rafe was. When EJ was about to let Jada out, Arnold showed up. Jada wanted to know what was going on and asked them questions. She asked “Rafe” about the secret mission he was supposed to be doing. Arnold lied about what he was doing. EJ interrupted Arnold to say Rafe was working for him by tracking down Sloan so she could pay for what she did. Jada wondered why EJ didn’t just let the situation go since he wasn’t a victim in the situation. EJ said he had time on his hands and Sloan made a fool out of him so she had to pay. He said he hired Rafe to find her. Arnold said he wanted to tell her, but EJ made him promise not to say anything. An unconvinced Jada asked EJ if he had Rafe doing something illegal. Arnold said he wasn’t doing anything illegal. He said he had to prove himself to John and Steve. Jada asked where he was looking for Sloan since he hasn’t been home and was in the secret tunnel. Arnold said he was traveling and just got back. He said he was in the secret tunnel so no one would see him and his arrangement with EJ would stay secret. Rafe said he was charging EJ a lot of money so he could get her something for the wedding. Jada was skeptical but ended up believing Arnold’s lies. She ended up leaving to go to the police station. EJ and Arnold were shocked at how they were almost caught. At Titan, Philip talked to Kate on the phone. He said he didn’t know if she got through to Sarah and wasn’t sure if Xander was going to show up and kill him. When Xander showed up, Philip got off the phone. Xander offered a peace offering, but Philip was skeptical. He told Philip that he talked to Maggie about making peace with him. Xander said if Victor trusted him, he could too. He said he overheard Philip saying something about killing him. Philip lied about what Xander heard. Xander said he wasn’t going to kill him and suggested they make their arrangement work. He asked if Philip was willing to work together without betraying each other. Philip wanted to apologize on behalf of Victor for keeping the truth from him and treating him the way he did. He said Victor wasn’t around much but made up for it by being overbearing while grooming him. Philip said Victor treated Xander like that because he was the son most like him. He said Victor died before he could prove that he changed. While they were talking, they decided they were going to prove themselves to Victor.

Sarah went to Stephanie and told her that she didn’t tell Xander the truth about Philip. She said her conversation with Kate and Philip convinced her not to say anything. Stephanie was shocked that Sarah was going to lie to Xander, but Sarah said she didn’t know what Xander would do. She said Xander wanted to start a war with the DiMeras, but Philip talked him out of it. Sarah said Philip and Xander getting along would keep the peace. She said Xander tried to kill Philip before, but it wouldn’t be good if he found out Philip did. While they were talking, Sarah asked Stephanie not to say anything. Stephanie said she was upset with Philip for using her, but doesn’t want to be the reason why Philip went to prison or Xander hurting him. She decided to keep the secret. Sarah was grateful that she was keeping the secret, but Stephanie wondered if she thought it through. Sarah said she was sure and had to worry about Xander finding out later. Leo went to Rafe’s house to look for him. Javi told him Rafe wasn’t home. They talked about the search for Lady Whistleblower. Javi told Leo that he hoped Lady Whistleblower pays for what she’s doing to him. Leo got a text from Abe who wasn’t happy about Faith’s exit. He wondered what Abe expected him to do about Chanel quitting out of the blue. Javi told him Kerry spent the night. Leo was uncomfortable but said he was happy for them. When Leo was about to leave, he noticed a shirt that said “I Love Rochester.” Gabi and Kerry were in the town square. They talked about Javi and Leo. Kerry said he was with Javi, but Leo was a problem. Gabi said she was afraid Javi was going to forgive Leo. Kerry said Leo was going to try and get back in Javi’s bed. She told him about Leo’s issues with Will and Sonny and said she would never forgive him. Gabi offered to help Kerry if he ever wanted to keep Leo from Javi. Sarah went to Titan to let Philip know she wasn’t going to tell Xander the truth. She said he had to make it work with Xander. Xander came in and heard Philip saying he owed Sarah. Philip said he was talking about her encouraging them to get along. EJ and Arnold were glad things worked out with Jada. When Arnold wanted his check, EJ said he might be able to use him as Rafe, but he had to keep his hands off Jada. He said he had a way for him to be able to do it. When Leo went back to his room, he realized Javi was Lady Whistleblower. When Abe called, Leo told him he knew who Lady Whistleblower was.

Holly called Doug to let him know that she got the money to pay off his debts from Maggie. After she got off the phone, Tate arrived with flowers for her. He wanted to do something nice for her after what happened. Tate wished he could change what happened, but he couldn’t do it. The baby was coming regardless, but he didn’t want to lose her. She knew that he didn’t plan for the pregnancy to happen, but it was hard for her to handle. Tate promised not to let the baby come between them. He kissed her as Doug walked in the room. Doug apologized for interrupting them. Holly introduced them, and they became acquainted. Leo called Abe to tell him that Javi was Lady Whistleblower. Marlena showed up at his place to remind him about their lunch date. He wanted to get her advice about what’s going on with him. Leo felt bad for accusing Javi of being Lady Whistleblower, but he was right the entire time. Marlena warned him not to jump to conclusions about Javi. He didn’t have proof that Javi was guilty. Marlena asked him questions about it, and he realized Javi didn’t have any connection to Rochester. It didn’t make sense for Javi to have a bank account there. Leo wanted to confront Javi, but Marlena stopped him. She warned him things would get worse if he confronted Javi and wasn’t right. Leo agreed to wait to say something and thanked her for helping him. Javi made plans with Kerry over the phone. Kerry pulled out his computer and wondered how he could destroy Leo’s life. Gabi wanted to talk to Javi about Leo. She liked Kerry and thought he was destroying his relationship by being friends with him. They got into an argument over Leo. Gabi told him that she talked to Kerry, and he wasn’t happy about Leo being around. She advised him to cut Leo out of his life, but he didn’t want to do that. Javi told her that she and Kerry would have to get over his friendship with Leo.

Ava arrived at the townhouse, and Brady told her that Rachel was the one sending her the texts. She was shocked, but it made sense because she wanted her parents back together. Ava wondered what Brady was going to do about it. He told her what Kristen did to discipline her. They agreed to get her therapy. Ava was glad that she was getting help. Brady wanted to take Rachel’s behavior seriously. Ava thought they shouldn’t see each other anymore, but he didn’t agree with that. Brady didn’t want to give up his life to appease Rachel. Ava thought he should spend more time with Rachel and less time with her. Rachel held onto a letter opener and thought about Ava’s visit. She took the opener and picked the lock on the drawer to get her phone. Rachel started texting until Kristen caught her. She told her mother that she was playing a game, but she didn’t believe her. Kristen took the phone and saw that she sent Ava a threatening text. Kristen was upset with her about the text. Rachel didn’t seem worried about Kristen’s threats. Kristen told her that she and Brady wanted her to go to therapy. Rachel was okay with it as long as she talked to Marlena. Kristen didn’t think Marlena was the right therapist for her. Rachel was too close to Marlena, but she could tell her therapist anything she wants. Rachel wondered if Kristen would get back together with Brady if she saw a therapist. Kristen broke it to her gently that they weren’t getting back together. Therapy is for Rachel to get her feelings out. Kristen and Brady loved her, but they weren’t getting back together. Rachel agreed to go to the therapist. Brady told Ava that Rachel was the reason he wasn’t with Chloe anymore. He refused to let her get away with what she’s doing. Brady wanted to take things to the next level. He prepared to kiss Ava when he was interrupted. Kristen called him to let him know that Rachel agreed to get therapy. She thought Rachel was ready to get help. Rachel was in the hall and got her coat and backpack. She slipped out the door. Javi and Kerry went to the town square for lunch. He wanted Kerry to respect his decision to be friends with Leo. Leo and Marlena left the Inn. He saw Javi wearing the Rochester shirt and asked him where he got it. Javi told him that it was Kerry’s shirt. Kerry said it’s where he used to live. Leo smiled and looked towards Marlena.

Marlena talked to Shane on the phone about John. Kayla and Steve showed up while Marlena was on the phone. Marlena let them know that she was trying to talk to John. Kayla suggested she get in touch with Kimberly. Steve wondered why she wanted to talk to Shane. Marlena told them what Cat told her about John saving her mother. Steve and Kayla were excited to hear that and thought John would be relieved. Marlena said he saved Catharina’s life. When Kayla left to go to the hospital, Marlena and Steve kept each other company. She opened up to him about being lonely without John. He asked if she heard from John during the holidays. Marlena said all she got was strawberries for Christmas. She asked if John was safe, but Steve didn’t know. He said Shane wouldn’t tell him what John was doing. Marlena said she was afraid John was slipping away from her. Chad and Cat ran into each other in the town square. She told him that she planned on staying in Salem and wondered if it was going to be an issue with him. He said it wasn’t up to him to decide where she lived. She promised to stay away from him. Chad said Salem was big enough for both of them and wanted to put everything behind him. Cat said she wanted to do the same thing. Maggie asked Xander about working with Philip. Xander said it was great when he found out he was Victor’s son and he trusted him to run the company over everyone else. When Philip showed up, he took it away. Maggie said he still had the company. He just had to run it with Philip. Xander said Philip was the worst. He said he wanted to get rid of Philip. A concerned Maggie warned him not to do anything rash. Xander said he wouldn’t do anything that would take him away from Sarah and Victoria. Maggie said he didn’t say he wouldn’t do anything. She let him know that Victor loved him and Philip. While they were talking, Maggie let him know that she wasn’t losing another family member so he shouldn’t do anything stupid. Xander brought up the will and letter to which Maggie said the situation was settled in court. She said the partnership wouldn’t be easy, but they had to find a way to work together. Xander asked if she was referring to her situation with Alex. He apologized to her for what he said. She said if he and Philip got along, they would break the curse. Xander agreed try and get along with Philip.

Stephanie told Sarah that Philip’s letter was a fake. She said Philip shouldn’t be co-CEO and told Sarah what Philip did. Stephanie said she wouldn’t have gotten involved with Philip if she knew what he was doing. She told Sarah she had to tell her the truth and wondered how Xander would take the news. Sarah said she didn’t know how Xander would take the news. When Sarah left, Stephanie checked her messages and listened to one that Philip left. He asked her not to say anything about the letter. She deleted the message and said it was too late. When she saw Kayla, she told her that she and Philip broke up. Kayla wanted to know what happened, but Stephanie thought it was better that she didn’t know what happened. She said she saw Philip’s true self and it made her sick. Kate went to see Philip at Titan and wondered what he wanted. Philip said Stephanie overheard them talking about the letter. He let her know that Stephanie was upset and thought she was going to say something. Kate talked about how judgmental the Bradys were. She wondered what he was going to do about it. Philip said he didn’t know where Stephanie was. He said he was dead if the truth came out. Kate said Stephanie wouldn’t be upset if she didn’t care. She thought he could reason with Stephanie once she cooled off. He said it could ruin Stephanie and Belle’s lives. While they were talking, Sarah came in and said she knew everything. When Philip and Kate acted as if they didn’t know what she was talking about. Sarah said she knew about the letter and how she found out about it. Philip assumed she didn’t tell Xander yet. Sarah said she didn’t tell him, but he was a dead man when she did. Kate suggested that she didn’t tell Xander the truth. She said it would protect Xander and Philip and keep Xander from hurting Philip. Sarah wanted to know why he did this. Kate said it was Vivian’s fault, but Sarah didn’t think that wasn’t good enough. Philip said Xander wasn’t above doing crazy things. He said he could keep Xander in check. Philip said he wanted to make Victor proud of him. He said this was his last attempt to prove that he was worthy of Victor’s legacy and asked her not to take it away from him. Sarah apologized to him before she left. Kate said she was glad he stood up to Sarah. He said he wanted to speak from the heart with Sarah. When Sarah went home, she told Xander that she talked to Stephanie about Philip. Before Sarah could tell him what Philip did, Xander said he promised Maggie to get along with Philip.

Kerry told Javi that he didn’t like how he was friends with Leo. Javi told him that Leo wasn’t a threat to their relationship. He chose Kerry and doesn’t want to be with Leo. After their conversation, they kissed. Kerry was ready to make love to Javi, but he didn’t want to rush things with him the way he did with Leo. Kerry understood and wanted to go at his pace. He took off his Rochester t-shirt and left it for Javi. Leo met with Abe and Paulina to update them about Faith’s exit storyline. He also dropped the bomb about Charlamagne being written back into the show. Abe didn’t want her written back into the show. Leo told him that her storyline was already written. He began telling his plans to bring her back. Abe and Paulina were shocked by what Leo told them. They had questions about the plausibility of his stories. Leo talked to them about Lady Whistleblower was ruining his life. Abe told him that he had a lead on the identity of Lady Whistleblower. He told him that Stephanie found out the checks were going to Rochester, New York. Leo wanted Rafe to find out about the tip. Abe reminded him that the soap didn’t have the budget for that. Paulina interrupted and said that she would pay for the trip so Rafe would stay out of police business. Leo prepared to see Rafe and pleaded for Abe to rehire Hattie. Abe finally backed down and agreed to take her back. Jada looked at Rafe’s message letting her know that she didn’t have to worry about him. She was worried about him. Jada left Rafe a message telling him that she wanted to hear his voice. She told Shawn that she hasn’t heard from Rafe and felt like something was off with him. Shawn advised her to reach out to Steve since he worked with him. Jada took his advice and reached out to Steve. Steve informed her that Rafe wasn’t on a case. She remembered EJ telling her about the case Rafe was working on.

EJ heard Rafe’s phone ringing and hung it up before Arnold exited the secret passage. Thinking he was Rafe, EJ almost panicked. He wanted to know why Arnold was there. Arnold wanted to get out of the hotel before he went crazy. EJ was upset that he came out of hiding because he was bored. He had enough to deal with trying to figure out what to do with Rafe. Arnold let him know that he wanted to stay at the mansion. EJ didn’t want him to do that because he didn’t want people thinking that he was Rafe. Arnold thought that could be a good thing. He thought he could distract Jada until he figured out what to do with Rafe. Someone was at the door, and EJ panicked. He told Arnold to get out of the room and sent him to feed Rafe. EJ left to get the door. Jada was the one at the door. She barged in the mansion to tell him that she knew Rafe wasn’t working on a case for him. He claimed he heard Rafe take the call, but she didn’t believe him. Abe told Kate about Hattie coming back to the show. She wasn’t thrilled about the news, so she wanted to talk about it later. He had good news about Lady Whistleblower. Leo arrived at the Hernandez place. He wanted to see Rafe. Jada let EJ know that she was sure she knew where to find Rafe. She told him about the way he was acting on New Year’s Eve and most likely knew where Rafe was. EJ messed with her head and told her that he probably got scared and left. Jada didn’t believe it and demanded that he tell her where to find Rafe. She wondered if he was paying her back for what she did. He refused to tell her anything. Jada decided to threaten him, but he reminded her that she couldn’t do anything without a warrant. He was about to show her out when Arnold came out of the secret passageway.

Julie stared blankly when Chad arrived at the house. She confessed that she couldn’t go to bed because it was lonely without her Doug. Julie was feeling depressed because of losing Doug. She blamed herself for not seeing what was happening with Doug. He never complained about how he felt. She blamed herself for losing Doug. Chad told her that she was a great wife. Doug was a lucky man because he had her. Chad understood how she felt and told her that it was part of the grieving process to feel responsible. He felt that way when Abby died. Julie understood that, but she didn’t know who to be anymore. He assured her that she would figure it out Julie shifted gears and talked to him about grieving Abby again. Chad said he didn’t have to worry about that anymore since Cat was in Canada while her mother was in custody. He wasn’t sure when he would see her again, but he noticed a different side to her. Chad realized that she was trying to save her mother’s life. Cat wasn’t forgiven yet, but he understood her better than before. His comment made Julie wonder if he had feelings for Cat. Chad assured her that nothing would ever happen with Cat. Cat approached Marlena in the town square. She apologized for her behavior. Marlena understood how Clyde operated. Cat appreciated it and wanted to talk to John about what happened with her mother. Marlena invited her to sit with her and let her know that John wasn’t in Salem. Cat explained everything that happened to her mother. Victor sent John to Greece to save her mother from Konstantin. He helped fake her death so she could get away from him. John saved her life. Marlena was grateful to hear the story.

Holly wanted to know why Doug didn’t go to the police about what happened to him. He admitted that he stole the Horton necklace to repay his debt. Unfortunately, he didn’t have enough money. Holly was upset, but Doug said he cared about Julie. He couldn’t tell Julie the truth about what he did. Doug didn’t want her to tell Holly the truth either. Xander complained about the letter that Philip had from Victor. He told Sarah that Philip didn’t want to go along with his plan to go after DiMera Enterprises. Xander was willing to do something underhanded to get the company. Sarah wasn’t thrilled about his plan either because she wanted him to be there for her and Victoria. He assured her that his family was the most important thing to him. Stephanie was shocked to hear Philip admit the letter from Victor was fake. After Philip got off the phone, she confronted him about his call. Philip admitted that Vivian forged the letter from Victor. Stephanie called him a fraud and told him about what he could have done to her and Belle’s careers. Philip wanted to explain everything over dinner. She refused to go out with him and told him it was over between them. Philip wanted to understand why she wanted to end their relationship over what he did. She told him that what he did was a crime, and she refused to let him put her in danger again. He thought she wanted to end things because she wanted Alex. She didn’t care what he thought about that because she was done with him. Chad was in the town square and ran into Cat. Marlena reached out to Shane to let him know what Cat told her. Xander opened his laptop to think of ways to increase Titan’s profits. He was upset about Victor’s letter to Philip. Philip apologized to Stephanie on her voicemail. He hoped that she wouldn’t tell anyone about the forged letter. Stephanie ran into Sarah and told her that Philip didn’t have any business being co-CEO at Titan.

Brady asked Tate if he talked to Holly, but he said he hadn’t. Tate said he couldn’t tell Holly that Sophia is keeping the baby. He said he was scared of becoming a father. Brady said it wouldn’t be easy, but he had faith in him. He told Tate to let Holly know that he cared about her. Tate said things would have been over with if Sophia’s mother didn’t find out. He blamed Ava for saying something to her. Brady said it wasn’t Ava’s fault. Tate said he didn’t understand how this happened when he and Sophia used protection. Brady said the situation wasn’t easy for him either. When Tate was about to go see Holly, Amy (Sophia’s mother) showed up. Brady said he asked her to come over so they could talk. When Tate wanted to leave, Amy asked him to stay. Brady didn’t know where to begin their talk. Amy said they could start with planning the wedding. Brady was shocked, but Tate said he wasn’t marrying Sophia. Amy said that he and Sophia were minors so what they wanted and what was right were two different things. Brady said marriage was the best solution for them. Amy said abortion wasn’t the best solution either. She said this wasn’t what she wanted for Sophia, but she wasn’t going to forget her beliefs. Brady told her things didn’t have to change. She said she wasn’t changing her mind about her beliefs and was doing what was best for Sophia and the baby. Brady said if Sophia kept the baby, he and Tate would do their best to provide for her. Amy said that was the least they could do before she left. Tate thanked Brady for having his back to which Brady said he always would. He said he had to see Holly. Sophia showed up at the Kiriakis mansion to see Holly. She apologized to Holly and said she never meant for this to happen. Holly appreciated her apology. When she asked Sophia how she was, Sophia said she was sick and gaining weight. Holly realized Sophia was still pregnant. Sophia said she thought Tate told her that her mother stopped them from going to get the abortion. Holly said Tate didn’t tell her. Sophia said her mother was making her and Tate get married.

Ava went to the DiMera mansion to demand a confession from Kristen. Kristen brought up the texts Ava received. Ava told her the texts were traced to the mansion. Rachel was listening to their conversation from the door. Kristen said anyone could have sent the texts. She came up with reasons why Johnny, Chanel, and EJ could have sent the texts. Ava said Kristen was the one who didn’t like her dating Brady. When she ripped into Kristen, Rachel walked in and told her to leave her mother alone. She wanted her to stop bullying her mother and demanded that she leave. Kristen sided with Rachel and ordered Ava out. If Ava kept harassing her, Kristen said she would call the police. When Ava walked out, Kristen asked if Rachel sent the texts. Rachel admitted to sending the texts to help her and Brady get back together. Kristen told Rachel not to send anymore texts and told her not to threaten anyone. Rachel reminded her that she and other people did it. Kristen said the family did it but it wasn’t right. She didn’t want Rachel to make enemies. Rachel was shocked that she had to give Kristen her phone. Kristen said they were changing the WiFi password so she couldn’t use anything else. Ava went to see Brady. They wished each other Happy New Year. He told her about his conversation with Amy. Ava blamed herself for what happened. Brady said it wasn’t her fault. When he suggested they change the subject, she said her conversation wouldn’t be any better. She said she was still getting texts and went to talk to Kristen. Brady said he would take care of it. Tate found Holly at the park. When he was about to apologize, she said she already knew what he was going to say. Holly said she felt like an idiot because he didn’t tell her the truth. Tate said he couldn’t figure out what to say. He said he and Sophia weren’t getting married and said it would be over in nine months. Holly said it was never going to be over. Brady went to see Kristen and warned her to stop sending the texts. He said he would sue her for harassment if she didn’t stop. While Brady was yelling at her, Kristen cut him off to tell him Rachel sent the texts.

Holly found Doug III beat up in the park. He lied to her and told her the men who attacked him tried to mug him. Doug III tried to stop her from calling the police. Holly helped him up and wanted to take to someone who was trustworthy. Stephanie arrived at the Kiriakis mansion with headshots for Bonnie to sign. Sarah let her know that Bonnie wasn’t home. They ended up talking about their men working together. Stephanie hoped the arrangement worked out for Xander and Philip. Sarah realized that Victor’s letter sealed the deal. She thought it was good that they were working together because they could help each other. Holly brought Doug III to the mansion so Sarah could help him. Sarah examined him. Holly lied about them calling the police and that they didn’t go to the hospital because he didn’t have insurance. Sarah wanted to help him, but she didn’t have anesthesia. He didn’t care about that. Xander and Philip got into an argument while they were at Titan. After their argument, Xander told Philip he planned to go after DiMera Enterprises. He wasn’t above bribing their board members. Philip didn’t want to work that way anymore. Xander thought Victor would approve of the plan, but Philip didn’t want to deal with Kristen. Stephanie was almost killed the last time Philip went after the DiMeras. Since Xander needed Philip to agree to it, he shut down the idea.

Brady blamed Kristen for Rachel sending Ava the threatening texts. Kristen thought it was a cry for help. They ended up arguing over Rachel. Brady told her that Rachel was a mess because of both of them. Kristen finally agreed with him. Brady felt like Rachel needed them to get along. He was afraid that Rachel could become a nightmare when she got older. Brady suggested that Rachel get therapy, but Kristen didn’t want that for her. He thought things would get worse for her if they didn’t do something about it now. She finally agreed to let her go to therapy. Tate told Sophia about Holly getting upset about the baby. He also told her that her mother went to his father insisting they get married. Brady and Tate weren’t down for the idea but agreed to take care of Sophia and the baby. Tate wondered if Sophia thought about adoption. Sophia felt like her mother would want to raise the baby herself if she could. Her mother wouldn’t allow her to give the baby to strangers. Sophia understood that her mother didn’t want her to give the baby up for adoption. Tate understood too, but he didn’t think they were ready to be parents. She eventually agreed that adoption might be the best choice. Sophia planned to talk about it with her parents. She asked him to go with her to her doctors’ appointment. Tate agreed to go, but he wished he could do more for her. She was grateful for what he did for her because she couldn’t get through that without him. After Sophia left, Tate called Holly. Holly ignored the call. She asked Doug III why he didn’t call the police about the mugging. Xander arrived at the Kiriakis mansion and told Sarah about what happened with Philip. Philip called Kate and told her about his day with Xander. He assured her that no one would find out that Victor’s letter was a forgery. He didn’t realize that Stephanie was listening at the door. She was shocked by what she heard.

While Rafe was tied up in the wine cellar, his phone rang. It was Jada. Rafe answered the phone with his foot, but had trouble talking because his mouth was gagged. Belle called EJ, but he didn’t want to talk to her since she stole his job. She said she didn’t go after the job. Jada asked her to take it. EJ thought it was Jada and Paulina’s fault that he lost his job. Belle told him to forget about getting revenge and accept what happened to him. He asked Belle what he could do to Jada or Paulina. When EJ went down to the wine cellar, he noticed that Rafe’s phone was on and ended the call. EJ gave Rafe his breakfast and blamed Arnold for why this was happening. He untied the gag around Rafe’s mouth. Rafe yelled out for help. EJ wondered if Rafe was finished and said he didn’t mean for this to happen. He said it was Rafe’s fault for coming back to the mansion after he told him to leave. Rafe asked if he was blaming him. He said Jada was looking for him, but EJ said she wasn’t. Rafe realized Arnold took his place again. EJ told him that Arnold kissed Jada, but he hid Arnold away until he could figure out what to do. Rafe said he didn’t have many options because he couldn’t keep him hidden forever. When EJ didn’t care about what he said, Rafe offered him a deal. They could work together to take Arnold down. Rafe said he wouldn’t turn EJ in or say anything about what he did. EJ thought Arnold would say something and when that happened, Rafe wouldn’t be able to stop Jada from coming after him. EJ said he would fix it himself and denied his offer. He said Rafe had to stay in the cellar. Belle told Marlena that she was the new D.A. Marlena was happy that she would be staying in town. Belle said things were uncomfortable with EJ, but she wouldn’t be seeing him unlike Shawn. She said she was concerned about working with Shawn. Shawn showed up and told her she should look into cases that EJ didn’t want to prosecute. Belle said she would do what it takes to make the charges stick. Shawn said he trusted her before he left.

Marlena told Belle that she was proud of the way she handled things with Shawn. She told Belle that she was going to do a good job as D.A. as long as she stayed away from EJ. They talked about Belle and EJ’s affair. Belle said it wasn’t going to happen again. Chanel saw Joy in the town square and confronted her. She asked how Joy could live with herself. Joy said nothing happened between her and Johnny because he stopped it. She wondered if Chanel could forgive Johnny and said she cared about them. Joy said everything happened because of a misunderstanding. Chanel said Johnny started it by not trusting her (Chanel) and then went to bed with her (Joy). She asked why Joy didn’t say anything in the beginning after everything she did for her. Joy said she didn’t ask her to look out for her. She ended up thanking Chanel for what she did for her. Chanel didn’t care about what Joy had to say because she lied to her to protect her job. Joy said she was wrong and that she didn’t want to make an impression of being a homewrecker. Chanel said she did stupid things but thought Joy was her friend. She said even if Joy didn’t know who she was, she knew Johnny was married and she didn’t care. Joy agreed that Chanel was right and wished she took EJ’s offer to leave town. Chanel was upset and said Joy wasn’t a good person. She told Joy to take the money and pretend it didn’t happen. Chanel walked away from Joy. While Johnny was at the Body and Soul office, Leo showed up telling him that Lady Whistleblower inspired him to write new material that wouldn’t get spoiled. When Leo presented his idea about Regan and Faith, Johnny said they wouldn’t do it because of him. Johnny told Leo what happened. Leo said it wasn’t cheating since he didn’t do anything. Johnny said it didn’t matter since he made the accusation first and then lied to Chanel. Leo said he made an accusation against Javi and Lady Whistleblower. Johnny said he didn’t have faith that things will work out between him and Chanel. Leo said he would keep Chanel and Joy away from each other as much as possible and left the office. Chanel showed up at the office to tell Johnny that she quit. EJ listened to Rafe’s voicemail and sent a text to Jada saying he was busy and would be in touch soon. He thought that text would keep Jada quiet. When Shawn went to the police station, Jada got the text from “Rafe.” She told Shawn she didn’t think the text was from Rafe.

Leo let Joy know about the changes to the script that would keep her away from Chanel. Joy wondered if what happened would end up in Lady Whistleblower’s column. She ran off. He left and ran into Javi. Javi wondered what happened, and Leo told him about Lady Whistleblower’s column about him. She found out about him ruining things with Javi and went after his career. He knew Javi and Hattie didn’t write the column but needed answers. Javi mentioned Rafe tracking down the culprit. Leo apologized to him for what happened. He told him about being hurt in the past, but he should have realized that Javi was different from the other men in his life. Javi didn’t want him to feel bad and advised him to move on the way he did. Leo wanted to be his friend. Javi revealed that he didn’t hate Leo and agreed to be his friend. They shook hands as Kerry approached them. Abe and Stephanie read Lady Whistleblower’s column. She informed the readers about Joy and Alex being together for New Year’s Eve. Lady Whistleblower also talked about the soap opera. She insulted Abe and Kate. Abe wanted Stephanie to get the column shut down. He believed the column would destroy the show. Stephanie assured Abe that she could stop Lady Whistleblower. She left and heard Chanel and Johnny arguing. Stephanie had an idea and went to see Chad. Chad let Stephanie in the door. She demanded that he tell her who Lady Whistleblower was. Chad couldn’t tell her the person’s identity because she’s anonymous. He wants to respect her wishes. She informed him the column could ruin the show. Chad shocked her by siding with the Lady Whistleblower. She wondered why he would hurt his friends that way. It’s not about First Amendment rights. The show was getting destroyed because of the column. She finally convinced him to look into the issue.

Bonnie read Lady Whistleblower bashing her acting skills. She threw her tablet when Hattie appeared. Hattie wished her a Happy New Year. Bonnie demanded to know what she wanted. She revealed that she wanted to apologize to her. Bonnie thought she was admitting to being Lady Whistleblower, but she realized that she couldn’t write that way. Hattie apologized for trying to get her fired. Bonnie hesitated to forgive her apology. Hattie admitted that she learned her lesson and missed her. Bonnie missed her too. The ladies decided to make up. Bonnie wanted to take Hattie to see Leo so he could write her back into the show. The story was written in a way that allowed her to come back. Hattie didn’t realize that and agreed to go with her. Chanel let Johnny know that she was quitting the show. Johnny tried to stop her from leaving. He reminded her that she loved being on the show. She did love it until she found out what he did with Joy. Chanel was done with him and the show. He wanted to know what happened, and she told him about her conversation with Joy. Chanel repeated that she was quitting and going back to her bakery. She insulted him a few times and tried to leave. Johnny stopped her and tried to get her to stay. Abe arrived, and Chanel told him that she was quitting the show. He informed her that she wasn’t leaving because she signed a contract. Chanel didn’t think he would sue his stepdaughter for breach of contract. Abe told her that he wouldn’t sue her, but he wanted her to stay. He reminded her about her importance to the show and that they couldn’t replace her. Johnny offered to quit so she could stay. Joy was reading Lady Whistleblower’s column when Alex showed up. She showed him the phone, and he was happy they were getting talked about. She filled him in about her conversation with Chanel. He felt like things would get better in time. Joy didn’t see Chanel forgiving her and didn’t think they could work together. Johnny’s offer to quit didn’t work with Chanel because she still had to work with Joy. She was done with the show and stormed off. Bonnie and Hattie went to Leo and asked him to write Charlamagne back into the show. Surprisingly, he didn’t give her a hard time about it. He agreed to write her back into the show. Johnny apologized to Abe for the trouble Chanel quitting would cause. Abe hoped Stephanie could stop Lady Whistleblower from ruining the show. Chad told Stephanie they were paying someone with an LLC account from a Rochester, New York account. It’s the only information he had about her. Kerry wanted to know why Javi wanted to be friends with Leo. Javi believed everyone deserved a second chance. He wanted to change the subject. Javi wanted to hear about Kerry’s time in Rochester. After Javi left to take a shower, Kerry pulled out his phone and wrote a story as Lady Whistleblower.
