Sarah says not really as she and Xander signed their divorce papers. Sarah knows it’s what she wanted and needed to do. Kayla knows it doesn’t make it any less painful. Sarah calls it strange that Xander is not putting up any resistance or fighting her at all which Kayla says is a good thing.

Sarah agrees it’s worth a shot as they hug and Kayla then exits the Pub. Kayla runs in to Brady and Rachel outside. Brady says they just saw Marlena at the hospital and she’s looking better. Kayla says she will stop by and see her as well as she walks off. Brady turns to Rachel and questions her being so quiet when she’s usually so excited around the holidays. Rachel responds that the only thing that would get her excited for Christmas is if her mom came home.

EJ then reveals that it appears that Marlena has Lyme carditis. Susan questions what took them so long to figure it out. EJ admits it’s possible there was an error due to a hospital staffing issue. Susan questions Marlena being sick because EJ is a cheapskate.

Mark asks Aaron if he’s having second thoughts about giving up his baby. Aaron says he’s definitely not as he feels helping Chanel and Johnny adopt was the best decision, but he still has complicated feelings and so many questions for Sophia but she’s still not talking. Aaron says he tried to visit Sophia at Bayview but was turned away because he’s not on the approved visitors list, so he called Sophia’s mom but she never returned his call. Arianna says Sophia is one of her oldest friends and she’ll always care about her, but she doesn’t think she ever wants to be close to her again because what she did was unforgivable. Gabi understands she was in a very bad place. Arianna argues that Sophia put Tate, Holly, Johnny, and Chanel through Hell. Gabi says she’s not excusing what she did, but her heart goes out to her because teenage pregnancy can turn your whole world upside down. Arianna acknowledges Gabi being Sophia’s age when she had her and not realizing how scary that must have been for her. Gabi recalls her and Will being just out of high school, Will struggling with his sexuality, and she was seeing Nick Fallon when she discovered she was pregnant. Gabi talks about being overwhelmed and making some very bad decisions which Arianna asks about. They sit together as Gabi says she had been too ashamed to tell her until now. Gabi tells her that she and Nick were a huge mistake while Will started seeing Sonny. Gabi explains that Nick thought it would be best if they got married and he pretended to be the father of her baby with the idea that it would set Will free and they would raise her in a traditional family. Gabi reveals to Arianna that the truth came out thanks to Chad telling everyone who the real father was at her and Nick’s wedding. Gabi states that Arianna ended up with the most loving dads in the world which she is so grateful for. Gabi says looking back at her decisions reminds her of Sophia. Arianna argues that no one forced Sophia to do what she did. Gabi says that no one forced her to walk down the aisle with a homophobic, abusive sociopath or agree to let him pretend to be the father, but she did that. Gabi says who knows how different their lives would’ve been if she married Nick and Chad hadn’t spoken up. Gabi cries that Sophia was alone and didn’t even feel like she could trust her own mother. Gabi says to be in a place like that and have to make a decision to do the unthinkable is not easy.

Mark informs her that he got a job at the free clinic. Kayla questions why she’s just hearing about that and what he’s going to be researching. Mark then tells Kayla that it’s his first day on the job so he hasn’t been shown the ropes yet.
Gabi asks Arianna if she’s thought about going to see Sophia. Arianna thinks it would be weird since they were her baby’s foster family for months. Gabi thinks Sophia could be grateful that they took such good care of him. Arianna says maybe if she was in her right mind but worries that Sophia would more likely think they all conspired to give her baby to Johnny and Chanel. Gabi encourages Arianna to think of Amy Choi at the holidays while her daughter is in a mental institution. Gabi thinks it would mean a lot to Amy if Arianna took a few minutes of her day to go visit Sophia. Aaron then shows up at their door. Arianna invites him in and asks what’s up. Aaron says he talked to Amy on the phone and she agreed to let Sophia’s friends go see her at Bayview, so he asks if Arianna would please go with him.

Aaron tells Sophia that she doesn’t have to worry about their son anymore because he’s been adopted by a fantastic couple who love him and he’s going to have a great life. Sophia remains silent.
EJ brings up how Tripp made Kayla’s life hell when he first came to Salem but he went on to become one of the most well-liked doctors at the hospital. EJ questions believing Kayla’s family deserves a second chance but not the Greens. EJ points out that Mark did hard times and paid his debt, so he questions if Mark isn’t supposed to be allowed to make a living. Kayla argues that Mark’s medical license was suspended, so he’s not allowed to treat patients. EJ assures that Mark won’t be going anywhere near patients at the clinic. Kayla remarks that they both know what EJ’s word is worth.
Brady tells Rachel that he was going to tell her about the baby switch when she was older. Sarah asks if she’s okay but Roman comes over with their ice cream sundaes. Sarah tells Rachel that she’s sure reading that was shocking and confusing. Rachel asks if Sarah really kidnapped her. Sarah explains that for about a year, she thought she was her daughter and at first, it was really hard to accept that wasn’t true, so she admits that she took her and ran. Sarah adds that she knew in her heart that it was wrong and she had to give her back as she knew she belonged with her real parents. Sarah tells Rachel that she’s not just her favorite patient, but one of the brightest lights in her life. Brady says he’s sorry she had to find out that way. Brady feels everything turned out the way it was supposed to as he and Kristen got her and Sarah has her own little girl. Brady says that Rachel just has another person in the world who loves her very much, so he thinks they are all pretty lucky. Brady suggests they eat their sundaes before they melt. They start to, but Rachel suddenly stops Sarah and tells her not to eat the ice cream.
Gabi calls Susan insane. Susan feels that Gabi’s lie is about work, romance, or both as they then walk away.
Kayla says that’s enough talk about EJ’s hiring practices but says their tour of the clinic isn’t finished yet because she wants to see the lab to see what kind of work he needs Mark’s help on.
Dr. Rolf sees on the camera that Kayla and EJ are outside the lab and worries that they cannot find him there while Mark wonders what’s going on.

Aaron argues that he wouldn’t have signed away his parental rights unless he was sure their son was going to be placed in a loving home and he has been. Aaron promises Sophia that everything is going to be okay. Arianna agrees and tells Sophia that all she has to do is focus on getting better. Arianna tells Aaron they should go.
