Devon: You know, I’m surprised that you had time to even get lunch today, ’cause i figured you’d be hanging out with your new pal, audra.

Nate: What, because we spend so much time together? That seems like a bit of an exaggeration.

Devon: No, it’s just my, uh, not-so-subtle way of asking what’s going on with you two.

Nate: Audra’s dealing with some glissade business in paris.

Devon: Really? I thought that you said that she and tucker are done.

Nate: They are, personally.

Devon: But they’re still doing business together?

Nate: I don’t really know their arrangement.

Devon: Hm. That’s interesting. Well, if I were you, I’d probably keep your distance, ’cause any lingering connection she has to tucker can’t be a good thing and whatever she has going on in paris, I’m sure she’s more trouble than she’s worth.

Nate: Okay, uh, you and lily have made your opinions very clear, but I think we should focus on the bigger issue: Billy and his world tour.

Devon: What’d you find out about that?

Nate: Well, I, uh, reached out to the higher-ups at all the offices he’s visited. They seem charmed by him. Sounds like he put on a good show.

Devon: Yeah, I’m sure he did. And I’m sure that our top brass are very aware of the power struggles we’ve been having, and don’t know who’s gonna end up calling the shots. So, they’re probably being nice to billy, just in case.

Nate: I’m not too worried. He might be the kind of guy they wanna have a drink with, but when it comes down to it, I don’t think billy’s made enough headway to stage a coup. Yet.

Devon: Look who it is. Do I dare hope she’s not here to cause trouble?

Nate: Aunt mamie.

Devon: Hello.

Nate: When’d you get back?

Mamie: Well, I just flew in from detroit. I’m so happy to see you both. Do you think that we may be able to get lily to join us? I need to speak with the three of you.

Billy: Hi.

Lily: What are you doing here? I thought you were on your billy abbott suck-up tour.

Billy: I actually cut that short.

Lily: Oh, no more important butts to kiss?

Billy: Is devon around?

Lily: Do you think that he’s gonna go softer on you? Because I promise you, he will not.

Billy: I need to have a conversation with you, and it needs to be private.

Adam: Really, you didn’t need to come up.

Chelsea: Yes, I did. You’re clearly upset.

Adam: You aren’t?

Chelsea: Of course, I am. But we need to keep it together. For connor’s sake. You’re the one who’s been reminding me of that.

Adam: Yeah. Well, maybe I’m done putting a positive spin on everything.

Chelsea: You can’t give up on our son. You have to stay strong for him, for all of us.

Adam: I can’t take it anymore, chelsea. The fake smiles, the false optimism. I mean, after what happened today, I cannot pretend like everything is gonna be okay. – Ugh. – Cabin crew cross check.

Lily: Jill trusted me to run chancellor and chancecomm, and then all of a sudden she hands everything over to you.

Billy: And if you would give me a second, I’ll explain to you why she did what she did.

Lily: Okay, sure. Go ahead.

Billy: Just so you’re clear, I only found out about this now.

Lily: Okay. Well, thank you for sharing.

Billy: And I’m betraying my mother’s trust by telling you. But I think you should know. My, uh… jill is sick.

Mamie: So, devon, are you gonna call lily to invite her or shall I?

Nate: Uh, lily’s at the office, and we should probably be headed back as well.

Devon: Yeah.

Mamie: Well, I wanted to keep this away from the office, but if that’s gonna speed things along, then I guess I’ll be joining you there.

Devon: Okay. Well, I mean, I hope that you didn’t come back here to cause any trouble. ‘Cause nobody wants to upset you, but I think that we were pretty clear about where we stand on your ideas for what to do with chancellor-winters.

Mamie: And I heard you loud and clear. But that’s not what this meeting is about, my vision for the company. That’s not what it’s about. It’s actually the opposite.

Nate: What does that mean?

Mamie: I’m not gonna pretend that it wasn’t hurtful the way you guys ganged up on me the way you did.

Nate: Aunt mamie, that’s not what it was, okay? We were just–

Mamie: No, no. I know. I’m a dynamo, so I can be a piece of work. But I went back to detroit and I was thinking about, you know, all the things that happened, or rather what went wrong.

Devon: And what’d you come up with?

Mamie: I came to genoa city wanting to reunite our family through our family company. And I did some good. I convinced you to bring nate back into the company, didn’t I? I convinced you to come back. Oh, come on, guys. I nudged you in the right direction.

Devon: Yeah, you did.

Mamie: Problem is, I just kept on nudging.

Nate: Exactly.

Mamie: Yeah, so much so that things got off track. But that’s really why I’m here. That’s what I wanna know. What can I do to set things right? Because as much as I love this company, I love my family more.

Lily: Jill is sick? How bad is it?

Billy: It’s cardiac.

Lily: She had another heart attack?

Billy: No. No, she didn’t have another heart attack, but they think the two are related.

Lily: Well, where is she? I mean, we can have nate find her a specialist.

Billy: No. Um, she’s in london with her brother, snapper, and he’s making sure that she gets the best care, but this has to stay between us for now. But you know my mother. She’s about as strong as they get, so.

Lily: I mean, is there a prognosis?

Billy: No. Um, not that she told me, you know, but she said she’s gonna stick around ’cause I don’t think she would like to, uh, give her enemies the satisfaction. But the situation is serious enough for her to do what she did, so, you know.

Lily: Billy, I’m really sorry. I am. I mean, I know I was, you know, going off about jill, but you know she means the world to me, right?

Billy: I know she does. That’s why I wanted to tell you.

Lily: Well, I’m glad you did.

Billy: So, this whole situation has given me a sense of urgency as to what I’m trying to do here.

Lily: Wait, what do you mean? What are you trying to do here?

Billy: The reason why I came back to chancellor-winters was to protect my mother’s legacy, to memorialize her contribution to this company. And one of the ways that I can do that is by adding her name. Abbott-chancellor-winters.

Nate: It’s good to hear that you’re not back to push your agenda.

Mamie: My only agenda is family unity, whatever it takes.

Devon: Yeah, we’ve heard you say this before, right? Like, how long until you just start stirring stuff up again?

Mamie: I can understand your skepticism, devon. I came to genoa city looking for a fight. I’ll admit it. And I was just reaching for too much too soon.

Devon: See, that just tells me that you’re looking at this as a pause until things smooth out, and then you’re gonna start again.

Mamie: I can promise you that’s not true. That’s what I came to town to tell you. I am willing to take a giant step back and stay in my lane as a silent investor, and let all of the company decisions be made by you.

Nate: Oh, we’d like to believe you, aunt mamie. We do.

Mamie: But, well, now, if my word is not enough, what can I do to fix things?

Devon: Listen, if you want us to believe that you’re not gonna try and make another power play, and that you really want this company to be all about family, you’ll have to prove that to us.

Mamie: And how do I do that?

Devon: Well, you can sell your interest in chancellor-winters to us. (Vo) on average, we spend 93% of our lives indoors.

Mamie: Sell my stake in the company?

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Mamie: But don’t you think that’s a bit extreme?

Devon: I wouldn’t have suggested it if I thought it was extreme.

Mamie: But I just told you that I was willing to back off of any hands-on, you know, day-to-day decision-making.

Devon: I know what you said. But as long as you still have a financial stake in the company, you can still wield your power around.

Mamie: And you don’t trust me enough to believe me when I say that I won’t?

Devon: You asked me how you can prove that you’re genuine about really putting the family first and I’m answering you.

Mamie: You are asking me to give up on a very lucrative investment. One that I worked really hard to be able to afford. But to cut me out of the company completely? Oh, this is overly cruel.

Devon: I don’t see it as being cruel at all, mamie, because there are plenty of other great investments that you can make. And we’d be more than happy to help you find those investments. Ones that wouldn’t cause a family rift.

Mamie: I swore I was not going to talk business today, but given what you’re asking me to do… I heard that jill is handing over the reins to billy.

Devon: Yeah, she did. What about it?

Mamie: Are you gonna sit there and tell me that’s not a giant red flag?

Lily: Billy, you tried this name change with devon and nate when I was in california with mattie.

Billy: And they shut it down.

Lily: Yeah, and I agree with them because it’s ridiculous. You know how hard it was to rebrand when we merged chancellor and winters.

Billy: Look, maybe it was bold at the time, but I’m asking you to reconsider, given my mother’s illness, because god forbid, she might not make it out of this.

Lily: You think it’s that serious?

Billy: I don’t know. I sure as hell hope not. But I need to be pragmatic billy because it’s a possibility, right? And I want her to know that her legacy is secure. That everything that jill abbott did to make this company the success that it is, is recognized.

Lily: Well, it also protects your role here too, right?

Billy: Don’t do that. Don’t accuse me of using my mother’s illness for my benefit, okay?

Lily: I’m just saying what other people are gonna say.

Billy: This is not about me.

Lily: Billy, come on. Think about how this looks. You wanna add jill’s last name to the company. It’s your last name too.

Billy: I would love nothing more than my mother to live to 100.

Lily: Okay, great. So spend time with her. Go be with her. Why is this so important to you?

Billy: You know that we had some rough times over the years, she and I, okay? This is… all of that was because of my behavior and this is my chance to– to make it up to her. And I would love to do that for her before it’s too late.

Chelsea: I’m not gonna let you throw this away. And I’m not gonna let you give up on our son. We are gonna see him again soon and you’re gonna give him this gift.

Adam: When is that gonna be? I mean, it’s his favorite cookies, chelsea. They’re gonna be stale and moldy by the time they finally let us see him.

Chelsea: Well, the doctor said we can reschedule.

Adam: I feel so helpless. Every time that we get close, they pull the rug out from under us. Only the rug is connor and they’re keeping him from us. I mean, it’s a nightmare.

Chelsea: You said yourself, you’re the one reminding me that this whole process is one step forward, two steps back.

Adam: I’m done with that. Okay, we need to stop pretending like there’s anything positive in this situation.

Chelsea: We can’t stop and I need you. I need you to be the reassuring one. I need you to be the rock because I can’t do this by myself!

Adam: Look, I know that you were looking forward to this visit as much as I was and you wanted to hold him again, and you wanted to see him in person for the first time in a long time.

Chelsea: Yeah, more than I’ve wanted anything in my whole life. It was one thing when my mom got alzheimer’s,

Devon: Now, mamie, do you really think that bringing up jill and billy and then throwing around terms like red flag is the best way to show us that you’re trying to back off and not cause problems?

Mamie: You are asking me to sell my stake in this company, and you think I don’t have the right to ask you your plans? But given this news about billy’s new power?

Nate: Aunt mamie…

Devon: No, listen, listen. We’re not gonna have a debate about this, all right? We have billy under control. Now, you asked me what you can do to make things right, and selling your interest in the company is my answer. So, just think about it. Now, I need to get back to the office. Are you coming?

Mamie: Nate, I need you to stick around for a minute.

Nate: I’ll be right behind you.

Devon: Okay. All right. It’s good to see you.

Nate: What is it, aunt mamie?

Mamie: This family must work together. It’s the most important thing in the world.

Adam: Hey.

Sally: Hey. I didn’t expect you to be here.

Adam: Uh, neither did we.

Chelsea: I didn’t realize you were living here now.

Sally: Yeah, this is my first day moving in.

Chelsea: Well, congratulations. That’s great news for both of you.

Sally: Thank you. How are you back so soon? You guys just left this morning. Is everything okay with connor?

Chelsea: I’m gonna let adam fill you in. I should get going. Let you get settled in your new place.

Sally: Um, I– I– I’m so sorry, but whenever you’re up for it, I would really love to connect with you about marchetti. I don’t wanna bug you. I just have a few questions, really. It’s nothing urgent, but…

Chelsea: Yeah, of course. My god, I totally forgot. Um, I’ll– I’ll give you a call later for sure. Don’t lose the confidence you had before we left to see him. Things will get better. They have to.

Adam: Hi.

Sally: Hi.

Adam: Oh, I missed you.

Sally: I missed you too.

Adam: So much. Are you getting settled in? Huh? I don’t, uh, see a lot of your stuff here yet.

Sally: Well, yeah, I mean, this is my first trip, but hey, I’m worried about you. Why is chelsea asking you to stay confident? What happened with connor? Why do you still have his gift?

Lily: I mean, I get why she wanted to hand things over to you in private, but I just wish she could’ve trusted me to tell me the real reason behind it.

Billy: She just told me the truth now.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, I don’t agree with that, but what’s done is done. I mean, all we can do is just support her the best way we can.

Billy: I’m glad you see it that way because I’m hoping that you can convince yourself that this is the right thing to do and that it’ll actually be a benefit to this company. And I’m hoping you can find it in your heart to embrace this idea and help me present it to the board.

Lily: I mean, I understand why you wanna make this grand gesture.

Billy: Look, I’m gonna have to convince devon that this is the right thing to do, and you’re the only one that can do that.

Lily: I’m gonna have to think about it.

Billy: Okay. Well, um, until then, can you do me a favor and just not mention this to anyone for jill’s sake?

Lily: Not even devon? I mean, that’s not gonna win any points with him.

Billy: I know, but I already broke her trust by telling you.

Lily: How am I supposed to sell this idea to him if I can’t explain the situation?

Billy: Okay, will you at least let me talk to her first. Can you– can you do that for me?

Devon: Oh, hey. Look who’s back.

Billy: Hey.

Devon: Hey. Everything okay in here?

Lily: Um, yeah. You can count on my discretion.

Billy: Thank you.

Devon: Well, I can’t wait to hear how your trip went.

Billy: I’ll fill you in later, but every office that I’ve met with, they’re doing great.

Devon: You wanna tell me what that was about? ()

Billy: Hey, what are you doing here? You’re supposed to be on a plane going to see connor.

Chelsea: Hold me.

Billy: What’s wrong?

Chelsea: Oh, thank god you’re here. I know your trip was important, but I’m so glad you cut it short. I don’t think I could get through this without you.

Billy: What happened? Trip get delayed? Is everything okay with connor?

Chelsea: We didn’t end up going.

Adam: We were all ready to take off and then we got a video call from connor, and we had to cancel the trip.

Sally: He told you not to come? But I thought he was looking forward to it, that– that whenever you told him you were coming, he was more talkative, and he was telling you all the new things he was learning about the ocd.

Adam: And yeah, how he’s learning to cope. I mean, chelsea and I, we were impressed. We felt like there was real improvement. I mean, we were sitting on the plane thinking maybe he had turned a corner, and then…

Sally: It’s okay. Take your time.

Adam: His excitement made his ocd flare up this morning and it was stronger than ever.

Sally: How so?

Adam: The ocd, it couldn’t let him feel good. It told him that he doesn’t deserve to be happy. And then that led to disassociating again, and more self-harm. This time, he, uh… he punched himself in the face. I mean, we could see it on the video call. He had a mark on his cheek. It’s probably gonna bruise. I just… why? Sally, how could he do that to himself?

Sally: Okay. Come here.

Billy: Chels, I’m so sorry. I can only imagine how this feels.

Chelsea: Devastating. It’s like my heart is just being ripped out over and over, and I can’t show connor that I’m upset ’cause then he’ll just feel worse. So, I just stare at the screen and look at his face, and listen to the tone of his voice.

Billy: Not to try and put a positive spin on this, but it’s– isn’t it a good thing that he called you this time?

Chelsea: Yeah, yeah. That’s what the doctor said when we talked to her. She said that when connor hit himself, he was in a dissociative state, but then he quickly reconnected and– and realized what he was doing and called one of the nurses.

Billy: And that’s– that’s new, right?

Chelsea: Yeah, he’s never done that before, call a nurse. The doctor said that that’s a good sign that he’s learning to interrupt the ocd, that he’s learning to manage it. They say it’s an advance.

Billy: But your heart still hurts and there’s no way around that.

Chelsea: Mm-hmm. Yeah. I wish I could be positive like this doctor, but this is my son. To see his face, billy, to know that he’s hurting himself, I mean, oh, it’s just so hard.

Billy: I’m almost afraid to ask, but how is adam?

Chelsea: I mean, he was okay before. Um, he was more of the cheerleader.

Billy: Yeah, you said that.

Chelsea: But this, I mean, this has really thrown him.

Billy: So, is he back to wanting to change treatment facilities and everything again?

Chelsea: He didn’t say that, but he’s very frustrated and I wouldn’t be surprised. And to be honest with you, I wouldn’t blame him.

Billy: So, he’s back to being adam.

Chelsea: Don’t do that. That’s not fair. We were both really looking forward to this meeting with connor, so I– I don’t blame him for being so upset.

Billy: I know, I’m– I’m– I apologize. I have no right to be glib. I know how difficult this is on both of you.

Chelsea: The truth is adam’s been working overtime to try to pull me up. I’m worried about him. I mean, we just keep taking turns trying to be strong for each other. I think we both just want a quick, easy resolution, but it’s not gonna happen. They keep saying every case is different. There’s no timeline, so… I just have to trust the process.

Billy: Keep doing that, okay? You keep doing that. It’s the only way forward.

Nate: Listen, everything that’s gone down at chancellor-winters, it’s shaken our family to the core. And I played a big role in that. So, I know better than anyone that it can take a lot to win back devon’s trust once it’s been broken.

Mamie: But how did my voicing my concerns about jill abbott’s motives break that trust?

Nate: It’s the way you went about it. And your focus on jill doesn’t help your case.

Mamie: And devon’s only answer is to cut me out completely? I just don’t think I can do that.

Nate: You may have to find a way to. Because if you can’t let go of your animosity for jill or your involvement in chancellor-winters, then this professional tension we’re all having, it might turn personal.

Mamie: But my warning you guys about her is putting family first.

Nate: See, it’s you saying things like that that make it seem like you came back to town to– to cripple jill, not to strengthen the family. This is a turning point, aunt mamie. Where things go from here, it’s up to you.

Sally: Adam, I know this is hard, but I think chelsea’s right. You have to stay strong. You can’t lose faith.

Adam: It’s not a choice that I’m making. I’m just– I’m spent. And connor’s physically hurting himself.

Sally: I know. And that breaks my heart because he is such a sweet kid.

Adam: I just– I don’t know how he can be turning his anger on himself. What, isn’t this something that all the experts should be able to stop from happening? None of that started to happen until after he went into treatment. How are things getting worse?

Sally: I don’t know. I mean, when you explained erp treatment to me, it sounded complicated. Exposure and response prevention. So, they trigger his intrusive thoughts and then help him manage his compulsive responses, right?

Adam: Yes.

Sally: So maybe it gets worse before it gets better.

Adam: Well, that’s the exposure and response part, but what– what about the prevention part?

Sally: I mean, it takes time to build preventative habits, right? It doesn’t happen overnight. I’m sure this takes time.

Adam: Well, the doctor did say that he stopped himself and he– he asked for help.

Sally: That’s a good sign.

Adam: But they still won’t let us visit him because of his backsliding.

Sally: Well, did they say how long it would be before you can reschedule?

Adam: Nobody will promise us anything.

Sally: It will happen. You and chelsea will be giving connor the biggest hug in the world soon. I know it.

Adam: What if it makes it worse? I mean, if just the idea of seeing us made him hit himself. Imagine what he would do if we actually see him.

Sally: Adam, don’t go there.

Adam: How can I not go there? He punched himself in the face at the thought of us visiting him. How can I live with that?

Devon: Why did you just tell billy that you were gonna be discreet about something?

Lily: Um, he just wanted me to keep something confidential.

Devon: Did it have anything to do with our plan of you joining him to run chancellor and us demerging these companies?

Lily: No, I didn’t even talk to him about that. I didn’t know he was gonna be here today. So, I wanted us to, you know, agree on strategy first.

Devon: Well, I’m glad that you didn’t, actually.

Lily: Are you having a change of heart?

Devon: No, I’m not having a change of heart. I’m just a little hesitant now because mamie is back in town and nate and I ran into her at the club.

Lily: Oh, god, now what?

Devon: She actually wanted you to be there, but we spared you. But she apologized and said that she was gonna stay out of all of our business decisions moving forward and let us run the company.

Lily: Do you believe her?

Devon: I don’t, not for a second. And now, I’m worried that if we move forward with this demerger plan with her still in the picture, it’s gonna be one big, I told you so.

Lily: Well, I mean, it was her idea in the first place, so.

Devon: I know.

Lily: When did everything get so messy?

Devon: What was it that you and billy were talking about when I came in?

Lily: Why don’t you worry about mamie and I’ll handle billy.

Billy: I got some upsetting news myself, actually. While you were on your way to the airport, I got a text from my mom and, um… it turns out she’s sick. Again, her cardiac issues have come back.

Chelsea: Oh, no. Is it serious?

Billy: I don’t know. She wouldn’t really tell me, you know, but she’s putting up a– a brave front. She admitted that it’s the reason why she gave me the reins at work. Her brother’s a doctor. I don’t know if you know that, but he’s taking care of her in london and it’s his suggestion that she steps back while she’s going through treatment.

Chelsea: Oh, poor jill. Poor you. How are you doing?

Billy: To be honest, it took my breath away at first, you know, and the– the braver face she puts on, the more my mind goes to the what ifs.

Chelsea: Yeah, how could it not?

Billy: To be honest, I feel bad even talking to you about this right now.

Chelsea: Why?

Billy: Because she swore me to secrecy and you’re the– you’re the second person that I’ve told already. I– I– I told lily and now she wants to tell devon.

Chelsea: Well, I hope she knows she can’T.

Billy: No, I mean, she said she’s not gonna say anything until I talk to my mother about it, which I’m dreading.

Chelsea: Yeah, I don’t think she’d be too pleased.

Billy: No, no, not in the least.

Chelsea: I’m surprised you told lily considering there’s so much tension at work.

Billy: Lily is an ally for me. If things get worse with my mother, I– I want to make sure that she knows that her legacy is secure.

Chelsea: Why would she need lily for that?

Billy: Because I’m on a full court press to add abbott to the chancellor-winters name and i need lily to help me convince the board and to convince devon.

Chelsea: And she’s willing to do that?

Billy: She didn’t say no and I think she understands the reasoning behind it.

Chelsea: So, what do the abbotts think about this plan?

Billy: I haven’t talked to the abbotts about it yet.

Chelsea: You don’t think you want to talk to the abbotts about it first, especially jack?

Billy: I’m not gonna talk to jack about it until I’m further down the line on this plan. Okay, go ahead, what are you thinking?

Chelsea: No, I just– I– I think a lot of this plan is dependent on trusting lily, which I don’t think is wise considering the circumstances. But what if she changes her mind and tells devon anyway and then they go talk to jill?

Billy: Now who’s jumping to what ifs?

Chelsea: No, I just– I don’t want jill to feel like you betrayed her trust because you didn’t keep her health status confidential. I mean, the last thing she needs right now is to feel like she can’t trust her own family.

Lily: So how did you leave it with aunt mamie?

Devon: She appeared to be apologetic, but you know her. So, I gave her an ultimatum and I said that if she really wants to prove that she has the family’s best interests at heart, let us buy her out.

Lily: She is not gonna agree to that. She worked very hard to get it.

Devon: That’s exactly what she said. And then she swore up and down that she would stay in her lane, but I don’t think mamie is capable of doing that.

Nate: I’m afraid I have to agree.

Devon: Why? What did she wanna talk to you about after I left?

Nate: She thinks I’m the softer touch. Stuck to her guns about wanting peace, but underneath, she’s fired up. And I don’t see her letting go anytime soon.

Devon: Hm.

Billy: I have enough history with lily to trust that lily’s not gonna say anything to devon until I talk to my mother. I think she’ll– she’ll give me that much.

Chelsea: Even if she’s not fully on board with your mission to change the name of the company?

Billy: Well, I hope she is. But look, at the end of the day, lily respects my mother, okay? And she knows that my mother wants to keep this quiet and i think that she’ll do that.

Chelsea: Does jill know that you want to add the abbott name?

Billy: She knew about the original plan and she was all in. You know, in fact, she was pushing for it.

Chelsea: And then it was shot down strongly.

Billy: Which is why I need to be very strategic about how I fight for this.

Chelsea: But jill doesn’t know, does she? I can tell because you’re being evasive.

Billy: Well, she’s got other things on her mind right now.

Chelsea: I feel like her legacy means more to you than it does to her. So maybe you should find out her wishes before you pursue this.

Billy: Chelsea, she handed me power at the company to make sure that our family legacy was protected at chancellor-winters, okay? I think she trusts me to do what I think is right. It doesn’t seem like you’re with me on that.

Chelsea: No, I’m not against you. But being on your side maybe means challenging you on this.

Billy: I don’t even know if she’s gonna show up. You know, if she’s gonna come back to work in any meaningful way if– when she recovers.

Chelsea: And if she doesn’t, that means you gain control of at least half the company, right? Is that what you want? To gain control of all of it?

Billy: Honestly, I’m just trying to do one thing at a time right now.

Chelsea: Okay. I understand. I know this is overwhelming.

Billy: I’m sorry. Um, what do you suggest?

Chelsea: I think that you should focus on supporting jill. Just be there for her. But I would be careful not to get in some big company battle because you will waste precious time with jill. That will cost you way more than you could potentially gain.

Adam: I don’t know how much longer I can trust the process. I threw that in the trash, um, in a moment of anger. Your thoughtful gift. Chelsea retrieved it.

Sally: Hey, you know what? We can always get more cookies, okay? If it makes you feel better to hurl that in the trash, I say go for it. Let your anger out. It’s a good thing. It is more than okay. It’s necessary. You cannot keep it locked inside. The key is to let it out. You just can’t let connor see it.

Adam: Well, I feel like I shouldn’t let chelsea see it either.

Sally: Okay, you cannot take that on, too.

Adam: She was practically begging me to stay strong.

Sally: Yeah, for connor. Not for her, okay? She can take care of her own feelings. Look, adam, you and chelsea are a support for each other in this, okay? But there are gonna be moments where you have to let it out. And that’s what I’m here for.

Victoria: Hello.

Cole: Is this a bad time?

Victoria: Uh, no, not at all. Come in.

Cole: Oh, okay. I’m sorry to drop in like this, but I just had to know how claire’s first day on the job went. I mean, is she here?

Victoria: Oh, not yet, but I’m really glad you’re here because I’ve been checking the clock every few minutes. It’s– it’s much more fun to have somebody to wait with. But you should’ve seen her when she left earlier. She was just– she was so excited. She was practically bursting.

Cole: Oh, well, I’m kind of bursting myself. I mean, vic, she’s come so far, so quickly.

Victoria: I know.

Cole: I couldn’t be more proud.

Victoria: I know. I know, it’s like mom said, it’s– it’s a whole new chapter for all of us.

Cole: Yeah.

Claire: Harrison and I have tidied up his room and he’s drawing his third picture of the caterpillar’s backyard.

Kyle: You were great with him today. I knew you would be.

Summer: Harrison seems to be back to his silly self again, so thank you.

Claire: I had a great time. I have to ask, as trials go, how’s this one going?

Summer: It’s going well.

Kyle: Out of the park.

Claire: If there’s nothing else.

Kyle: Uh, claire, before you go, um, there’s something you need to know.

Summer: Why do I get the feeling I’m not gonna like it?

Kyle: Jordan is alive.

Kyle: And now jordan’s incarcerated in a maximum security facility.

Summer: Jordan is alive. You knew about this, didn’t you?

Claire: I did.

Summer: How long exactly did you know?

Claire: Since early this morning.

Summer: And you didn’t think that this was important enough to tell us that your aunt, our son’s kidnapper, was still alive?

Claire: My parents and nikki thought it would be best if victor shared the news.

Kyle: Victor came by earlier. He wanted to tell you in person, but I told him I would take care of it.

Claire: I wanted to tell you right away. I knew how much it was gonna upset you. But I also wanted to honor my family’s wishes. At least jordan’s somewhere that she can never hurt anyone ever again.

Summer: Unless she burns it down like the last prison she was in.

Kyle: Jordan will never see the light of day again. All right, we’re good here. So, if you wanna take off…

Claire: Same time tomorrow?

Kyle: Absolutely.

Ashley: No, listen. Why are you doing this to me? It happened.

Traci: Maybe, ashley, you’re just confusing the night.

Ashley: I’m not confusing anything at all, traci. We had an in-depth conversation, alan, we caught up. You have to remember that. I told you all about the problems I was having with tucker.

Alan: Again, ashley, I am sorry, but–

Ashley: I don’t know why you’re doing this to me. I’m telling you right now, it happened.

Victoria: Well, I think that smile says it all.

Claire: It was the best day ever. We had so much fun. I mean, harrison’s great. He’s so funny and he’s smart and curious. He had a whole list of things that he wanted us to do and I’m proud to say that we checked them all off. I’ve never had so much fun with caterpillars.

Cole: Wait, wait. I’m not quite sure what that means, but it sounds great.

Victoria: So, is he still recovering from the kidnapping? Or, I mean, is there lingering upset?

Claire: I think he’s honestly bouncing back. Of course, it’s a process, but kyle and summer have consulted a therapist and he’s surrounded by so much love.

Cole: Well, honey, you were a big part of that support system. The bond that he shares with you makes a real difference. You’re able to relate to him and to help him heal.

Claire: Kyle has said the same thing.

Victoria: Well, I’m sure that summer’s noticed, and now she’s probably lightened up a bit, right?

Claire: Well, I’m not sure I would call it lightening up exactly. She definitely treated me more like an employee than a relative. And it didn’t help when kyle told her about jordan being alive. She accused me of purposefully holding back information.

Victoria: What? That is ridiculous. Do you want me to talk to her and let her know that dad was the one who asked you to stay quiet about it?

Claire: No, I don’t need you to talk to my boss/cousin for me.

Cole: Yeah, well, she’s ready to go.

Claire: Kyle came to the rescue, actually. He explained everything, but not that it had much impact.

Cole: Well, just give it some time. I’m sure she’ll come around eventually.

Claire: I hope so. But luckily for me, kyle has been 100% supportive. He has such great energy. He really makes me think I can do this.

Cole: Oh, well, it sounds like you’ve made a friend.

Summer: Did you know about jordan earlier today?

Kyle: No, of course not. Victor came by earlier when I–

Summer: You’re so determined to hire claire. Maybe you did. Maybe you hid it from me because you know that this is a game changer.

Kyle: Summer, nothing has changed.

Summer: How can you say that? Her aunt, our son’s kidnapper, is still alive.

Kyle: And what? You can’t think claire had any involvement with jordan surviving. What did she do? Pull her body out of the river? Hide her in a closet?

Summer: Are you seriously mocking me right now?

Kyle: Look, I know it’s a lot to take, but you can’t blame claire for any of it.

Summer: I am so sick of you telling me what to think and how to feel. It’s condescending. It’s offensive.

Kyle: I’m sorry. That’s not what I want. But jordan is no longer a threat. And whether she’s alive or dead, it has no impact on claire taking care of harrison.

Summer: The timing of it, kyle. Our son was kidnapped. And that person’s two most recent targets are now hanging out every single day. It’s not safe.

Kyle: Summer–

Summer: Look, if we let claire go now before harrison gets even more attached–

Kyle: We’re not firing her. You said yourself our little boy is back to his sweet self. We’re not taking that away from him.

Summer: It’s not just up to you, kyle. This is my decision, too.

Alan: I’ve been to a lot of bars in paris, but I have never been to this one.

Traci: Okay, maybe you’re just confusing the location.

Ashley: I’m not confusing the location. Everything about this place is familiar to me. I even recognize the bartender. I think his name is jean-pierre. Go ask him.

Alan: Look. What do you remember about our conversation?

Ashley: Okay, well, I’ve told you a multitude of times that I was talking to you about the problems I was having with tucker. How many more times do I have to say it to you?

Alan: I understand, but, I mean, specifically, what did I say? I mean, how did I respond?

Ashley: What are you saying to me? Am I creating some kind of a psychosis? Am I delusional? What is happening?

Alan: No, I– ashley, I– I don’t think you’re making it up.

Ashley: Then why won’t you admit that I’m telling you the truth?

Alan: I think it happened exactly as you say. It just didn’t happen with me.

Ashley: Okay. I don’t understand anything you’re saying.

Alan: I believe you spent the evening with, uh, my brother. Alice loves the scent of gain so much,

Summer: Thank you for meeting me.

Chance: Of course.

Summer: I hope I didn’t take you away from anything too important.

Chance: Chancellor-winters can survive without me. You are much more important.

Summer: Did you find out anything about jordan?

Chance: I talked to my guys. Everything that kyle is saying checks out. Jordan’s being held in one of the highest security facilities in the country. No one’s ever escaped this place.

Summer: Well, she burnt down the last prison she was in, so let’s hope that this place has a little bit better security.

Chance: I’m told that they are aware of her history and they’re taking extra precautions.

Summer: I guess my grandpa would be raising hell if they weren’T.

Chance: Hey, I gotta ask you. Why didn’t you turn to victor on this? Why me?

Summer: Because my grandpa is one of claire’s biggest champions, along with the rest of the newman family. Every time I bring up a concern about her, her history, they tell me that I’m being unfair, when I’m only trying to protect my son. So, you are my impartial hero.

Chance: Well, uh, not so impartial. I am 100% on your side. Always.

Summer: That means a lot to me.

Chance: Hey, this is good news. Jordan’s not a threat anymore, but you don’t seem too relieved.

Summer: Claire knew that jordan was found. She showed up to her first day of work and she didn’t say a word to kyle and me.

Chance: What?

Summer: Yeah, the family thought that my grandpa should be the one to tell me and I guess she wanted to respect that.

Chance: You don’t agree?

Summer: All I know is that it’s her first day on the job and she’s already keeping secrets. Jordan may not be able to hurt harrison, but the person that she groomed since birth now has direct access to my son.

Claire: I saw the cutest book on caterpillars I wanna order for harrison. I’ll be right back.

Cole: Have you ever seen her so happy?

Victoria: Hm.

Cole: No? Yes? Hey, what’s going on?

Victoria: Kyle.

Cole: What about him?

Victoria: I want for claire to make friends, of course, but I’m just not sure that he’s the right choice.

Cole: Well, I don’t– I don’t see an issue. He seems like a great guy.

Victoria: He is. I mean…

Cole: What?

Victoria: Well, I mean… his relationship with summer, you know, it’s– they have this history. It’s complicated. And it’s obvious that summer’s not completely on board with claire being harrison’s nanny. There’s gonna be some friction and claire will be at the center of it.

Cole: Well, I’m sure they’ll eventually get over that, you know, for harrison’s sake.

Victoria: Yeah, I know, but there’s more than that. Kyle, he just doesn’t– well, he hasn’t always had the best judgment. He’s had several divorces, the affair with harrison’s mother. Not to mention that long ago, he was dating that shark, audra charles.

Cole: Past tense. Maybe he’s learned something.

Victoria: Am I overthinking?

Cole: Well… I think you’re being a mom. And maybe just a little on the overprotective side. But that’s completely understandable because you love our daughter so much. I think the positive here is– is that she’s made a real friend. And I think that’s exactly what she needs.

Tessa: Hey, stranger. It’s good to see you.

Mariah: Kyle. Oh, my goodness, we have been so worried about you. Um, do you have time to sit?

Kyle: Yeah, I’d like that.

Tessa: Thank you.

Kyle: Thanks.

Mariah: I don’t even know what my first question is. I mean, hearing that harrison was kidnapped by that maniac.

Kyle: Right.

Tessa: I mean, all I can think is if someone did that to aria, I would lose my mind.

Kyle: Summer and i pretty much did.

Mariah: How is he doing?

Kyle: We’ve been lucky. The love and support from family and friends, it’s really helped. And thanks to sharon, she hooked us up with a therapist who’s been great at guiding us through it all.

Tessa: So, harrison’s fine?

Kyle: He’s had nightmares, but he’s getting better every day. He’s practically back to his old self.

Mariah: I’m really glad to hear that. How are you doing? Well, I know you. You’re probably busy taking care of everybody else and not thinking about yourself.

Kyle: Seeing harrison happy is all I need. Here’s proof that the little boy is back to his goofy, healthy self.

Tessa: Oh, look at that smile.

Mariah: Oh, my gosh. He’s loving whoever’s taking the photos. Summer taking it?

Kyle: Actually, it was his new best friend, claire.

Tessa: Oh, we’ve met her.

Mariah: Yeah, she’s sweet.

Tessa: Yeah, pretty amazing, considering her horrendous history.

Mariah: Wait, wasn’t she also kidnapped with harrison by her nut job of an aunt who raised her?

Kyle: She was. It was a terrifying experience for both of them. But coming out the other side together, surviving together, it’s really bonded them. I mean, claire and harrison, they’re best buds. She’s even his nanny.

Mariah: She’s what?

Alan: Thank you guys so much for coming back here.

Ashley: I don’t understand why you wanted to.

Alan: Well, I just didn’t wanna discuss all of this in public, especially in a bar that my brother might return to.

Traci: Were you afraid that we might run into him?

Alan: This is a conversation I never wanted to have, but, um, once you told me what happened, I began to consider an alternative possibility about what you experienced here.

Ashley: That has to do with your brother?

Alan: My twin, martin. He’s a sociopath. New herbal essences is packed

Chance: Has claire given you a reason to worry about harrison?

Summer: No. She was perfect. Upbeat, responsible. I– I haven’t seen harrison that happy in a while.

Chance: Well, hey, that’s something.

Summer: It is. And I’m grateful. But nobody wants to remember that claire was also the perfect assistant to my grandma before she tried to kill them all.

Chance: Yeah. You think she’s putting on some sort of act?

Summer: She seems genuine. But chance, I can’t help but wonder what would happen if jordan did reach out to her and start triggering claire’s old hatred for the newmans, and then my son is ground zero for that. And when I express my concerns to kyle, he just– he tells me I’m overreacting.

Chance: Oh. Yeah, co-parenting requires a certain amount of respect if it’s gonna work.

Summer: Yeah, you would think. But he won’t even consider rethinking hiring claire, even though it was supposed to be on a trial basis.

Chance: Do you regret agreeing to it?

Summer: I feel like I was guilted into it. Like I had to somehow prove that claire is an accepted and trusted part of the newman family. And to do that, I have to let her look after my son?

Chance: Yeah, no one should force you into a decision that important.

Summer: I know. But whatever reservations I have, it is impossible to deny how much claire means to harrison. Being around her makes him feel like they’re both safe, free from jordan and.. I– I want him to have that peace of mind.

Chance: What about your peace of mind?

Summer: How can I have peace of mind? When the very reason I agreed to hire claire is part of why I wanted to say no?

Victoria: I know you are probably right. I’m just really glad that claire is settling in enough to make some real friends.

Cole: So, no more worrying?

Victoria: No, no more worrying. When did you get so wise?

Cole: I’m just trying to be a good dad.

Victoria: You’re a great dad.

[ Cell phone buzzes ] What was that about?

Cole: Well, I am sure that it’s nothing, but I do have to take off. I’m gonna check back in with you and claire later.

Victoria: Oh, okay, well, um, thank you for coming by. I know that it meant a lot to claire and to me.

Traci: A twin brother who is a sociopath? Well, this is not as unlikely as it sounds.

Ashley: I was married to somebody in that situation. I wouldn’t wish it on anybody.

Alan: I’m sorry to hear that. Um, I’m sorry my brother found his way into your life.

Traci: I assume you’re not close?

Alan: Not any longer, no. Um, martin always had sociopathic tendencies. He was in and out of therapy. His whole childhood is on various anti-psychotic medications. When he was taking effective medication regularly, he was a– a sweet, loving boy that grew into a man I was proud to call my brother.

Traci: But when he wasn’t on his medication?

Alan: When he was off his meds, he became belligerent, rebellious. I mean, just so much anger. Watching martin, trying to process what he was going through, trying to understand him, trying to help him, that’s why I became a psychologist.

Ashley: But, we’ve known each other a long time. Why did you never tell me you had a brother?

Alan: Well, we had a pretty big falling out.

Traci: What happened?

Alan: We lived in a house outside of paris together, mainly so I could monitor him, you know, but he was doing well. He was taking his medication regularly. He was thriving. I was so impressed, I offered him a job transcribing my handwritten notes of my sessions. It was a solitary job, but one martin embraced.

Traci: Did something change?

Alan: Yeah, I didn’t foresee something I should’ve thought of. Some of those sessions involved patients that underwent severe trauma, and when he read that, he flipped out. He– he accused me of playing god with their lives and controlling his. He became angry, resentful. He went off his medication. I tried to have a conversation with him, but then, manically, he demanded I cure him on the spot, and when I told him that that’s not how therapy works, he became enraged. Violent.

Chance: Wait a second. Are you jealous?

Summer: Look, I– I know how stupid it is. I know, and I hate even hearing the word. I– I do, but I mean, if I’m honest, yes. I’m– I’m mom. I’m the one that has to make him eat his vegetables and brush his teeth and go to bed on time. Claire is all new and exciting.

Chance: Hey, you know your kid is crazy about you, right?

Summer: I don’t wanna feel this way. I don’T. I– I was never jealous of the last nanny. I wasn’t, but she also wasn’t this bright and shiny claire.

Chance: Who just so happens to have a dark and scary past.

Summer: You understand?

Chance: I mean, yeah, look, all harrison sees is a fun new friend. Well, you know what this friend was capable of in the past, right? So, to see harrison get excited about claire when you know the truth, I mean, sure, that’s gonna cause some complicated feelings.

Summer: Exactly. I mean, claire showed up this morning at the house with brownies, harrison was practically doing cartwheels. As harrison’s nanny? You just said how sweet she is.

Mariah: I just– her history, you know? That doesn’t make you worry? A teensy bit?

Kyle: No. There’s no dark side waiting to come out. Claire has gotten the help she needs, worked through her demons, and she’s all the stronger for it.

Mariah: And summer just accepted this?

Kyle: Not at first. It took some time, but I got her to see the truth. Look, bottom line is harrison adores her. He feels safe around her, happy. Isn’t that what’s supposed to matter?

Tessa: Um, does she have any experience with children?

Kyle: She’s done some research. She’s focused, intuitive, thoughtful. She has this energy she brings to everything. And not just interacting with harrison. It’s the way she lives her life. Like, even a trip to crimson lights is an adventure. She takes joy in the simplest things. It’s charming, inspiring, even, to see how positive she is.

Mariah: Wow. Seems like harrison isn’t the only one who thinks that claire is very special.

Claire: Success.

Victoria: Oh, you were able to get the book?

Claire: I was. And another one. It’s interactive, it’s perfect for kids harrison’s age. I just always wanna be ready for the next question ’cause he’s so curious.

Victoria: Looks like the newman work ethic is alive and well.

Claire: I may have learned a thing or two from watching my mom work.

Victoria: So you’re a big fan of kyle.

Claire: Yeah, he’s great. He accepts me and he’s been so supportive. It doesn’t hurt that he’s a lot of fun. I mean, I wouldn’t have this job if it wasn’t for him.

Victoria: I’m happy that he convinced summer to hire you. I have known kyle a long time. He’s a complex guy.

Claire: If you’re worried that I’m overstepping and expecting my new boss to be my best friend, I’m not.

Victoria: No, I’m not worried. I’m not. I just– I would like for you to have friends outside of work. For your world to be full and rounded.

Claire: I want that too. But right now, my only focus is on being a part of this family and living a life that I can be proud of.

Ashley: Did martin attack you?

Alan: Uh, yes. He can be quite violent when he’s off his medication. But I was able to subdue him eventually.

Traci: I– I’m so sorry. What happened?

Alan: Well, I tried to get him back on medication, and then I began investigating inpatient facilities.

Ashley: What happened? He didn’t like that?

Alan: Yeah. He took it as a complete betrayal. We had a huge argument and he just– he ran off. I spent two years using private investigators trying to find him, but, uh… well, I began to realize it was becoming an obsession and unhealthy, so I let it go.

Traci: Not being able to help your brother, it must be so painful for you.

Alan: Yeah. There are times when I still feel like I failed him completely.

Ashley: Have you seen him since then?

[ Alan sighs ]

Alan: No, no. But since it seems you’ve met with martin recently in the bar, he’s obviously still around. Which also means that, uh, he’s keeping track of my connections.

Ashley: He’s keeping track of me. You didn’t live this strong,

Traci: Alan, why do you think he’s keeping track of your connections?

Alan: My phone. When I was in florence that week that ashley was here, I stupidly left it at my house and I guess martin got in and accessed my phone, maybe got a hold of my contacts.

Traci: Well, that would certainly explain why you remember having a phone conversation with alan.

Alan: It is possible that martin answered the phone pretending to be me and then went to go meet you.

Ashley: And then my picture probably popped up on your phone and that’s how he recognized me in the bar.

Alan: Yeah. But we have a mystery to solve. We have to get a better understanding of what could have caused your did.

Ashley: And that mystery has everything to do with your brother.

Alan: Well, we don’t know the extent of his involvement yet at this point, but right now my focus is you. And that is not gonna change.

Tessa: Well, I am gonna get back to work. I am just so glad to hear that harrison is doing well. Give him a hug for me.

Kyle: I will. Hm.

Mariah: Did you clock the look?

Kyle: Hard to miss.

Mariah: Yeah. I just feel like I’m asking the questions that need to be asked.

Kyle: Hm, but do they?

Mariah: I’m just trying to understand what’s going on here, kyle.

Kyle: Really? Because it sounds like you’re judging.

Mariah: No, no. Absolutely no judgment here. Of course, I think that claire deserves a second chance. I told her that myself.

Kyle: But?

[ Mariah sighs ]

Mariah: I hate that I’m even saying this, but I feel for summer on this one. I mean, she’s so protective of harrison.

Kyle: And I’m not?

Mariah: I’m just saying, as aria’s mom, I would want the best possible candidate as a nanny for her. Maybe not someone whose aunt had just kidnapped my child.

Kyle: Mariah, the nanny was kidnapped too.

Mariah: And that makes it better?

Kyle: Okay. Okay. I get it. Summer questioned my judgment too.

Mariah: And look, this is nothing against claire, okay? I just– there’s– there’s a lot of young women out there who are qualified. You know, maybe not someone who’s just getting a grip on her new reality.

Kyle: You know, I’ve gotten to know claire. She has succeeded against all odds. Her strength, her honesty, her intense desire to do the right thing, that’s who I’m entrusting harrison with. You have to believe it. If I thought there was the slightest possible risk, I wouldn’t push for this.

Mariah: All of this admiration for claire… is there maybe something else going on?

Victoria: I’m sorry if you thought that I was being a–

Claire: A mom? I love it. And I do kind of know how you feel when I question you about dad now.

Victoria: Oh, about our intentions towards one another?

Claire: Something like that. When I asked you about dad, I wasn’t overstepping, was I?

Victoria: No. No, of course not. You’re– you’re my daughter. We can talk about anything, really. You could ask me anything. And I hope that you’re okay with me asking you questions.

Claire: Yes, I love our conversations. What you think about everything, what makes you laugh. This might sound kind of weird, but… somehow I feel like I’ve always known you. I feel like I’ve known you all my life. It’s kind of weird, though, ’cause we’ve only actually been family for a few months.

Victoria: It’s not– it’s not weird. It’s not weird. It’s just, you know, it’s that mother-daughter thing. It’s like the best thing in the whole world. And I, you know, I hope that you’ll always feel free to be open and honest with me about anything. Anything that’s on your mind.

Claire: Good, because I do have a question for you. Did dad really show up for me or was I just a good excuse for him to stop by to see you?

Cole: Hey, victor. You wanted to see me?

Victor: Cole. You got here rather quickly. I assume you were on the property somewhere.

Cole: At the tack house.

Victor: Yeah.

Cole: Victoria and i were eager to hear about claire’s first day on the new job. She knocked it out of the park.

Victor: Yeah. I saw claire earlier, I’m aware.

Cole: But I assume that you didn’t summon me here to talk about my daughter.

Victor: So, cole… I want to talk to you about your betrayal. Or do you think I’d forgotten? Hi. What’s your name?

Cole: I didn’t betray you, victor. I wanted to protect you, protect the family. From what might have happened if jordan were discovered in that cage downstairs.

Victor: I protect my family.

Cole: There’s nothing wrong with a little help from someone every once in a while.

Victor: So, you followed me in my own home. A home to which I had welcomed you.

Cole: I just hope that you can see that my actions were merely trying to repay you for your kindness.

Victor: You went behind my back. You were about to free jordan.

Cole: No, not free her, victor. To get her into a legitimate maximum security facility where she can’t hurt us anymore. And also, just equally as important, is so that you couldn’t be prosecuted for holding her prisoner.

Victor: Stop giving me excuses.

Cole: Michael and I were only trying to help.

Victor: I can tell you to stay away from my family. And stay the hell away from my daughter.

Victoria: Your father, he couldn’t wait to hear about your first day as harrison’s nanny, so he was here for you.

Claire: And maybe you.

Victoria: Well, maybe. Maybe just a little bit. But he really was very concerned about how the jordan news would affect you, so he wanted to see for himself that you were okay.

Claire: I am. I worry about the impact on nikki, but other than that, jordan’s in the past. I feel strong. I’m so excited about our family. The future. That’s all I care about.

Kyle: Is that what you think? I’m crushing on the nanny? My son was just kidnapped. I am trying very hard to co-parent with summer and working with my mother is next level impossible. So why would you even go there?

Mariah: Uh, she’s pretty, smart, fun…

Kyle: I hired claire for harrison. My son feels safe around her. I couldn’t ask for anything more as a parent. So, do you have any other questions?

Mariah: Nope. Asked and answered.

Kyle: Hm.

Mariah: Kyle, I sincerely hope that claire is everything you’ve said. And that she’s a perfect fit for harrison.

Kyle: She is. As long as summer doesn’t change her mind.

Summer: Of course you don’t have any reason to worry about kyle and me.

Chance: Okay, I’m just making sure. ‘Cause I’m, uh, I’m pretty darn happy, I’m not gonna lie.

Summer: I am too. It’s really– it’s not that kind of jealousy. It’S… like the other day, I ran into kyle and harrison and claire here in the park and they had just gotten off the ferris wheel. And they were all laughing and having this great time.

Chance: You wanted to be a part of that?

Summer: Kyle told me later that harrison was so excited to go on the ferris wheel. That he wanted to invite claire along with him. Not me. Not mom. It was claire that he wanted to call.

Chance: And you’re starting to feel like you’re on the outside looking in. Well…

Alan: Do you remember anything else that happened with my brother that night?

Ashley: I don’t remember anything else! I’m sorry. Look, it’s just a complete blank.

Traci: Okay, alan, what are you thinking?

Alan: Well, given what martin can be like when he’s off his medication, I believe that something traumatic might’ve happened between him and ashley that night.

Ashley: Why wasn’t I afraid of you? I mean, if something traumatic happened and I thought you were him, then wouldn’t I be afraid of you?

Alan: Uh, I don’t know. I– I guess it depends on what trauma actually occurred.

Traci: But if you find that out, it will not only help ashley, it will also lead you back to your brother.

Nick: Ah, you know, Newman family. There’s never a dull moment.

Sally: Yeah, yeah, Adam told me about them finding the… Jordan.

Nick: Yeah, it seems Jordan’s got more lives than a cat. So what’s up? What, uh, what’s on your mind?

Sally: Well… Okay, um…

Nick: You seem nervous.

Sally: Is it that obvious?

Nick: Sally, it’s me. Come on. You know you can talk to me about anything.

Sally: I do, yeah. It’s just that this is not gonna… It’s gonna be a very difficult conversation.

Nick: Oh. It’s one of those, huh?

Sally: Yeah.

Nick: All right, well… Let’s just get into it.

Sally: So I have some good news… And some bad news. Which one do you want first? ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪

Tucker: So, all the names on that list are companies now under the Glissade umbrella. I would like you to contact the CEO of each of them. And tell them to cancel any current or upcoming meetings with Audra Charles.

Haley: Should I give a reason?

Tucker: Just tell them the order comes directly from me and… That Ms. Charles no longer has any association whatsoever with the company. Okay. Thank you. Game on, Audra.

Audra: No, this one looks like I’m gonna a funeral. Hmm. Not bad. This one says, trust me, I’m in charge. Forget about that deadbeat Tucker McCall.

Audra: This is Audra Charles. Yes, Mr. Lemaire. I’m so looking forward to our meeting tomorrow. How is your lovely wife, Danielle? Oh, I’m so pleased to hear. So, about tomorrow… What, you can’t? May I ask why? Tucker McCall did what? There must be some sort of misunderstanding. No, no, no, Mr. Lemaire. Let me try and work this out. Let’s keep that meeting on the– It’s– it’s a mistake. Okay, no. I– I understand. Goodbye. I see what you’re up to, Mr. McCall. And if you think you can get away with this, you’ve underestimated me again.

Ashley: I know I spoke with you that evening.

Alan: Well, it– it’s impossible, Ashley. I was not in Paris that week.

Ashley: I cannot be wrong about one of the few things I remember.

Alan: Okay, let– let’s just go back and, um…

Ashley: I am going back, Alan.

Traci: Okay, so– so you were leaving the bistro after Tucker stormed out.

Ashley: I told you this. I went for a walk and I called Alan. Clearly, you don’t believe me.

Alan: No, we’re just trying to piece this together, okay? The mind can play tricks with memories and moments at the best of times. And you– you were under a lot of duress. You took a big leap of faith, marrying Tucker, and then you saw it all unravel in a very short period of time.

Traci: Yes, yes, that’s true.

Ashley: Okay, then obviously, you think I’m wrong.

Traci: No, no, no. That’s not what you mean, is it, Alan.

Alan: Not at all. We’re just trying to piece this all together, okay? So, Ashley, after the bistro, do you remember where you went?

Ashley: I went for a walk, Alan.

Alan: Okay.

Ashley: I told you this.

Alan: All right, just imagine walking. Do you see yourself arriving anywhere or something like that?

Ashley: I stopped in at a bar and I had a glass of Bordeaux and I remembered how much you like Bordeaux, correct?

Alan: Yes.

Ashley: Okay, and that’s when I called you and I asked you to join me.

Alan: Um, did you talk to me or did you leave a message?

Ashley: Why are you testing me like this? Because you don’t believe me?

Alan: That is not my intention, I–

Ashley: You don’t think I’m telling you the truth, but I am. You and I were together that night. I know it happened.

Nick: So it’s a good news, bad news thing. All right, well, I’m gonna let you choose which one you wanna dig into.

Sally: Okay. So, Chelsea is taking a leave of absence from Marchetti to focus on Connor. And Summer wants me to fill in.

Nick: She does?

Sally: Yeah. Miracle, right?

Nick: Uh, yeah, I’m very surprised considering the issues you’ve had. But I’m happy for you. Um, also very proud of Summer for letting bygones be bygones.

Sally: Yeah.

Nick: I’m taking it this was the good news portion.

Sally: It is, yeah.

Nick: I guess the next question is what does this mean for your design company?

Sally: That is the bad news.

Nick: Yeah, kinda had a feeling that was it.

Sally: Look, I really tried to keep it going. I really did, but the current was always against us. We could just never find our footing.

Nick: And I’m sure it didn’t help that Dad wouldn’t fold your company into Newman Enterprises.

Sally: Yeah, I mean, though, that was probably for the best because Victor and I would’ve butted heads from the beginning. He’s never gonna trust me.

Nick: Yeah, I’m sorry about that, Sal.

Sally: But I will pay you back.

Nick: You don’t have to.

Sally: No, I promise. Every cent.

Nick: No, you don’t have to do that.

Sally: But Nick…

Nick: Sally, what I did was not a loan. It was an investment. And sometimes investments fail. That is the way the business world works.

Sally: Yes, I know. But you had faith in me and you put money behind that faith. And I can’t help feeling like I– I’m letting you down.

Traci: Ashley, it’s not because we don’t believe you. We’re just trying to help you remember.

Ashley: And I remember speaking with you that night, Alan. But you’re telling me that’s impossible because you were in Florence. So what am I doing? Am I just blocking everything out for some reason? What? What are you thinking?

Alan: I– I just– I had an idea.

Traci: About what, Alan?

Ashley: About how pointless it is to try to dig memories out of a black hole.

Traci: Ashley, don’t say that.

Alan: Do you remember the name of the bar?

Ashley: I don’t know.

Alan: Well, if we went back there, do you think maybe we could find it?

Ashley: What difference would it make? If I remember a name or whatever, it means I’m hallucinating or fantasizing. Maybe you should just go ahead and institutionalize me after all.

Traci: Ashley, stop it. That is not what’s going to happen. We came all this way to help you. We are going to get to the bottom of what’s going on with you. And quitting is not an option.

Alan: I think we should focus on that night. If you can recapture your memory of it, it might hold the key to everything.

Haley: I’ve called all the names on the list.

Tucker: Fantastic. Now, please book a meeting with the board of directors.

Haley: What’s the topic?

Tucker: The order of business is to officially and permanently remove Audra Charles from the board.

Audra: Yes, I understand. Uh, when can we reschedule? But I’ve been your point person from the beginning. Tucker McCall has never even seen your company. Let me guess. You’re cancelling the meeting. Cancelled. Cancelled. Cancelled! No, before you hang up and make a terrible mistake, I’d like to let you in on a little secret. As you may recall, Tucker McCall was recently exposed as having knowledge of a horrible scandal at his previous company. He hoped that little problem would go away, but it hasn’t. So, he’ll be stepping down as CEO of Glissade. I’ll be taking control of the company very soon. No matter what Tucker tells you. Yeah, that’s right. I’ll be the next CEO.

Nick: Sally, you didn’t let me down in any way, shape, or form.

Sally: Yeah, but I feel like I did. I came to you with all these stars in my eyes, and I–

Nick: You also came to me with a solid business plan, with a five-year projection of where you thought your company was going to be.

Sally: Which turned out to be nowhere.

Nick: Again, not your fault. Businesses fail. That’s what happens for a number of reasons. It could be the economy. It could just be bad timing. It could be because there’s a stubborn businessman who’s holding a grudge.

Sally: Yeah, well, one of Victor’s many legacies.

Nick: Let me ask you this. Did you give it everything you had?

Sally: Seven days a week.

Nick: Then you don’t owe anything to anyone. Especially me.

Sally: I still wanna pay you back.

Nick: Not gonna happen.

Sally: Nick, it is important to me.

Nick: Sally, I’m not taking your money. So, deal with it. What I want is for you to focus all of your talents and energy into Marchetti. And they’re gonna be very lucky to have you.

Sally: You’re amazing, Nick.

Nick: I mean, it’s kind of the rumor.

Sally: I mean it. Seriously, I mean, most exes, they wouldn’t be so generous or kind. Especially after the way things ended with us.

Nick: Well, I’m not one of those businessmen who hold a grudge.

Sally: You’re more than that. You’re a really great friend.

Nick: I am, uh, curious. Why did Summer agree to take you on at Marchetti?

Sally: Well, it didn’t take much convincing, actually. Um, it was more we had to get past our grudges, which she had some pretty legitimate ones against me. So once I let her get those off of her chest, including how I treated you…

Nick: She went there?

Sally: She did. Yeah, she did. And I– I almost let her have it.

Nick: Almost?

Sally: Mm-hmm, yes, but once I promised her that I would be on my best behavior, she offered me the job. Probably helps that it’s temporary, and that she has to get a line into production and– and lost her creative director. And I also get the feeling that she just has a lot on her plate and just really wanted one less thing to worry about.

Nick: It’s been a pretty rough time for her lately.

Sally: Yeah, I can only imagine. But I’m really thankful for the chance.

Nick: Well, I would say good luck, but I suspect you’re not gonna need it.

Sally: Thank you, Nick. For everything.

Nick: I’m always in your corner. No matter what, you don’t have to worry about that.

Nick: All right, bye.

Sally: Okay, bye. Okay…

Audra: Hello.

Sally: Bonjour.

Audra: Hey, Sally, what’s up?

Sally: Well, I don’t really wanna interrupt your croissants and champagne, but do you have a minute for some good news?

Audra: You have no idea how desperately I need that right now.

Sally: Well, you are speaking to the new creative director of Marchetti.

Audra: Shut up. Really? Wow, congratulations.

Sally: Thank you. Yeah, I mean, it’s just an interim position until Chelsea Lawson comes back, but hey, at least it’s a foot back in the fashion door.

Audra: Well, I am thrilled for you.

Sally: Thank you.

Audra: And forget interim. You’re gonna be running that place before long.

Sally: Yeah, well, I’m not gonna get too ahead of myself. I mean, I’m just really grateful for the shot. Ah, it doesn’t sound like things are going as well for you in Paris.

Audra: Ugh. Well, you know, just Tucker trying to scorch the earth and erase me from the company.

Sally: Can he legally do that?

Audra: He’s gonna give it his best effort, but I’m not gonna give up. I’ll never give him that satisfaction.

Tucker: Excuse me. Hey, Alan. How’s it going? Where’s…

Ashley: Let’s do this.

Alan: What, now?

Ashley: Yeah. I might not remember the name of the bar, but I think I can find it.

Alan: Well, uh, I mean, maybe we should do this fresh. We just had a long trip. I– I think we should do it in the morning.

Ashley: No, I don’t wanna sleep. I’m afraid of what might happen. Let’s go now.

Alan: You’re exhausted, Ashley, you need some rest. I mean, the more tired you are, the less likely you are to figure this out.

Ashley: Alan, you’ve been telling me for minutes that we need to do this. We need to get to the bottom of it, and now you’re trying to talk me out of it. What’s going on with you?

Alan: I’m only thinking about you, Ashley. I have no other agenda.

Ashley: Perfect. Then we’re gonna do this tonight. I’ll make coffee.

Traci: All right, what– what’s going on, Alan?

Alan: Traci, I just–

Traci: No, no, I saw your face when she said that she was with you that night. What are you thinking?

Alan: Uh, I’m thinking maybe her blackouts started earlier than we thought.

Traci: But you said that they were caused by some traumatic event.

Alan: Yes, that’s true.

Traci: And I thought we had already sort of agreed that the argument with Tucker was not that event. I mean, even Ashley says that it wasn’t what she thought at first, and the wait staff confirms it. So was the argument with Tucker the thing that caused the other personalities?

Alan: Uh, it’s possible, but it’s very, very unlikely.

Traci: Okay, then why would Ashley have a blackout that night? What happened to her that would shake her up so much?

Sally: Okay, you’re gonna have to catch me up on the latest between you and Tucker because you left for Paris before we had a chance to talk.

Audra: Well, we are officially, definitely done.

Sally: Well, yeah, I mean, that much I figured, but what about everything else?

Audra: I came to Paris to make that move on Glissade I told you about.

Sally: But how? I mean, doesn’t Tucker have complete control?

Audra: Well, I’m still a member of the board, so that gives me some leverage. Although I’m sure he’s trying to figure out a way to get rid of me there, too.

Sally: So what else can you do, then?

Audra: Use Tucker’s complete lack of people skills against him. You know, I’m the one who’s been meeting with these European hotshots doing all the hard work while Tucker stayed in the background. I’m the one they know. I’m the one they listen to.

Sally: But what happens when Tucker finds out what you’re up to?

Audra: Oh, he already knows. And he’s coming after me with everything he’s got.

Tucker: I don’t get it.

Haley: Do you need something?

Tucker: Oh, no, no. It’s nothing to do with you. I’m just– I ran into this person I know, this guy Alan, on the street earlier, and he completely ignored me. He seemed to lack any recognition of me whatsoever. Anyway, I think I’m gonna go for a walk, clear my head a little. You good?

Haley: I’m good.

Tucker: Good.

Audra: Look, I don’t believe this. You checked into the same hotel? Is this part of your plan to keep tabs on me for the rest of my life?

Tucker: Need I remind you that you’re the one who keeps inserting yourself into my orbit?

Audra: Only because you refuse to acknowledge my right to be a part of this company.

Tucker: You have no rights. And whatever rights you have are determined by me, and I’ve decided you have none. As of now, you don’t exist at Glissade.

Audra: Okay, if you think canceling my meetings is gonna stop me, you’re mistaken.

Tucker: You’re making a fool of yourself here.

Audra: And you keep forgetting. I know where you keep all your dirty laundry.

Tucker: I’m terrified.

Audra: You think you’ve got all your bases covered, Tucker, but you don’t.

Tucker: Well, if you’re referring to your position on the board of directors, that technicality will be solved momentarily.

Audra: Really?

Tucker: Mm-hmm.

Audra: Do you think that they’re still gonna let you do that after I tell them what your plans are? To break all the companies down into small, bite-sized pieces, and then sell them off to the highest bidder. I know you told them that you wanted to grow their businesses, build them all up. Which we both know is a lie. I can show them what you’re really gonna do because I wrote your damn prospectus, Tucker. What? Have I finally gotten your attention?

Tucker: Okay, what’s it gonna take for you to back off?

Victor: But we were talking about that deal in Taiwan. What? Don’t you think it’s time… Huh? Uh, listen, I– I’ll call you back later. Bye. Hi, son. What brings you by?

Nick: I just wanted to come by and see how everybody’s doing. Where’s Mom?

Victor: She is at an outpatient session.

Nick: And she’s doing all right?

Victor: Yeah. Have a seat, son.

Nick: All right. I was just worried about how she’d… you know, take the news that Jordan was found alive.

Victor: Yeah. Well, I told her about that, and she, of course, was shocked. But you know, she knows that Jordan is now put away for good.

Nick: Let’s hope that’s true.

Victor: Well, I’ve seen the facility. Trust me, it’s like Fort Knox. Not gonna get out of that. No way. Let her rot in hell in there.

Nick: I don’t know. I guess I thought you’d be more relieved about that.

Victor: Gotta be honest with you, I’m a little worried about your brother Adam.

Nick: What’s going on with Adam? I know that he and Chelsea were flying out to see Connor. Have you heard from them? Did something happen?

Victor: Uh-uh. Not heard from them. And you just mentioned Connor. I’m worried about him, too.

Nick: Yeah. It’s awful, seeing your kid hurting and realizing there isn’t anything you can do to fix it.

Victor: Yeah.

Nick: We’ve both been there.

Victor: We certainly have, my boy. But, you know, Adam, I think, just had made wonderful progress. And I– I’m so proud of him. Didn’t you feel that he had made progress?

Nick: Yes. I can also admit that I was wrong to assume that it would never be possible.

Victor: Yeah, well, I’m afraid that this could– could crush him again, you know? Lead him back into darkness.

Audra: So, does this mean you’re finally giving up?

Tucker: I just wanna make this as painless for you as possible.

Audra: Yeah, don’t do me any favors.

Tucker: Would you like me to buy you out? In my opinion, that would be–

Audra: That is so sweet, Tucker. You’re always looking out for me.

Tucker: I’d make you a fair offer.

Audra: You still don’t understand, do you? What I want is for me to win and for you to lose, and I would like that to happen as quickly as possible.

Tucker: You’re gonna walk away with nothing.

Audra: Well, that remains to be seen.

Tucker: Why? Why so vindictive?

Audra: This has nothing to do with vengeance. Hey, that’s your game and your weakness.

Tucker: What is it you want?

Audra: I want Glissade. I want it all.

Ashley: I was just thinking to myself. What caused me to black out that night? You know?

Traci: We were just asking that same question ourselves.

Ashley: Okay, when I go back to that evening and I– I left Tucker in the bistro, I was angry with him and upset, but I wasn’t afraid of him or his rage. At that point, I still knew what had actually happened. I mean, it later became morphed into something more terrifying. So something must’ve happened that colored everything else after that.

Traci: That is such a brave and important realization.

Alan: Yeah, uh, the question is, when and why did the change take place?

Ashley: That’s what we’re gonna find out.

Traci: Are you absolutely sure that you’re ready to do this right now?

Ashley: I am. And I know you have every reason to doubt what I say and what I do, but I promise you, I am me. And those other personalities, they– they’re trying to protect me. They don’t want me to find out the truth, but I have to, and I have to do it now, because I know that I’m closer than ever to getting the answers.

Sally: Chloe. Hey.

Chloe: Hey back.

Sally: Look, I– I– I hate the way things ended last time we talked.

Chloe: Okay.

Sally: I want to apologize. And to let you know that I am starting work at Marchetti, and I will find a way to bring you in.

Chloe: Fat chance of that.

Sally: No, hey, if Summer could let me work for her, why not you?

Chloe: Because she needs you more than she needs me.

Sally: But what if I need you?

Chloe: Really? You mean that?

Sally: Yeah, I miss you.

Chloe: Well, it hasn’t been that long.

Sally: And I– I do miss you giving me a hard time about Adam.

Chloe: Well, I would gladly do that, even if we aren’t speaking. I mean, I can send you daily emails.

Sally: Seriously, how am I supposed to do this job without my best partner? And my best friend.

Chloe: You know, I’ve been trying to think of an excuse to call you, but…

In unison: Stubborn.

Chloe: It hurts to have to close our business. Even though I know deep down it is the right thing to do. And I took that out on you. And I’m really sorry.

Sally: And I’m really sorry for not being more sensitive and seeming like I was throwing my new job in your face.

Chloe: I really am happy for you. You know, you are going to knock them dead at Marchetti. Summer is so lucky to have you.

Sally: Thank you. But in the end, it’s just a job. And they come and go. But good friends… good friends are forever.

Nick: Dad, I think you’re wrong about Adam.

Victor: You do?

Nick: Yeah. The situation with Connor is tough, but… I think instead of breaking Adam, I think this is gonna make him stronger.

Victor: Surprised to hear you say that.

Nick: I’ve been watching him, you know. The way he handles things now. Particularly when things aren’t going his way. Instead of burning everything down the way he’s done in the past, he just sort of takes a step back, listens. I give Sally the credit for that.

Victor: Well, I have a different opinion about that, but, you know…

Nick: Look, I know you don’t like Sally, but can you just admit that they’re good for each other?

Victor: Let’s just agree to disagree about Sally. What’s far more important is what actually warms my heart, is that the bond between you and your brother’s growing stronger.

Nick: Yeah, I never thought it was possible.

Victor: You know, he craves your approval more than anyone’s.

Nick: Well, I don’t know if I’d go that far, but we’re in a good place. And this thing with Connor is just– I mean, it’s the worst. I’ve told him repeatedly, you know, if there’s anything I can do to help, he just has to ask.

Victor: You know, I sometimes never thought that I’d see the day where you and Adam began to respect each other. Really, it makes a big difference in my heart, okay? I know that if we as a family stand together, nothing would bother us. We’d conquer anything.

Tucker: So you intend to take over Glissade from me?

Audra: That’s right.

Tucker: Sure. Piece of cake.

Audra: I’m not saying it’s gonna be easy. I know you have all your guns pointed in my direction. But I’m not gonna be intimidated, and in the end, I’ll win for one simple reason.

Tucker: And what’s that?

Audra: I want it more than you.

Tucker: I think you’ve clearly shown that you don’t know what it is I truly want it. And how hard I’m willing to fight for it.

Audra: Glissade was nothing more than a rebound play for you. You struck out at Chancellor-Winters. You struck out at Jabot. So this was supposed to be your consolation prize. Oh, and it was all gonna be for Ashley.

Tucker: So, uh, just the other day when, uh– when Ashley came to me and yet again tried to convince me that she and I belong together, and I turned her down flat without hesitation. Because despite all this I love you. Was I lying to myself? Maybe you’re the one engaged in self-deception.

Audra: Am I? You came up with the idea to pour new life into Glissade with Ashley. Then you try to reboot it to try to prove something to Ashley. Okay, I don’t have any of that baggage weighing me down. For me, it’s just about the company. You know, if you were a decent ex-partner, you’d just let me have it. Your obsession is still with Ashley, and that will never change. Which is fine with me because she clearly needs you much more than I ever will.

Traci: So, Ashley, this is the fifth bar we’ve been to. You sure you don’t wanna just call it a night? Ashley?

Ashley: This is it.

Alan: Are you sure?

Ashley: Yeah, I’m positive.

Alan: Well, what– what do you remember?

Ashley: We sat right over there.

Alan: Okay. Um, what else?

Ashley: Okay, um… I called you, you joined me, we had a glass of Bordeaux, and I was wearing the same thing I had worn when I was at the bistro with Tucker. So that means that whatever happened had to be that same night.

Alan: Uh, all right, but do you remember any part of the conversation we had, or…?

Ashley: Because you don’t remember because you weren’t there.

Alan: Look, Ashley, let’s– let’s just try to get through this, okay? Just remember as best as you can.

Ashley: All right, it wasn’t anything terrible or intense. Uh, I told you about Tucker’s ultimatum. I realized that I couldn’t separate from my family or the company, and you were indignant on my behalf. You completely supported my decision. We had another glass of wine, I think. And then…

Alan: Yeah, and then what– what– what else? What happened?

Ashley: I don’t know.

Traci: Ashley, try, try. You’re so close.

Ashley: It’s just a blank.

Alan: Okay, well, I think we should take this table because, um, there’s something we should discuss.

Chloe: Yeah, but I just– you know, I really appreciate it even being asked. And I’m even happier that I have my friend back.

Sally: We’re a team, remember? We work better together. And we will convince Summer that it is a smart, creative move to hire us both. But you have to be all in.

Tucker: Hey, Ashley. Uh, I know you’re in Paris. And as it happens, I’m in Paris, too. Actually, no, um… As luck would have it, I ran into your friend Alan on the street, but he acted like I was a complete stranger, no recognition of me whatsoever. Summer: I’ve heard, um, some buzz about a deal between jabot and jasper foley, is that confirmed?

Kyle: Uh, the details are still being ironed out, but it’s in the works.

Summer: That’s major, he’s a legend.

Kyle: It will be a significant asset. The licensing of his products is in our best interest.

Summer: Yeah, of course, nobody could think otherwise.

Kyle: Well, you may be surprised.

Summer: What does that mean?

Kyle: They haven’t called.

Summer: What?

Kyle: Claire and harrison haven’t called because everything’s fine, so don’t worry.

Summer: I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m checking my phone for work messages.

Kyle: Hmm, right.

Summer: It’s her, it’s claire. Something’s obviously wrong.

Jack: Hi.

Nikki: Oh, jack. Thank you for meeting me on such short notice.

Jack: I’m sorry I didn’t respond to your text right away. I was in the middle of something.

Nikki: Oh, I hope I didn’t take you away from something important at jabot.

Jack: No, no, no. It was personal, nothing business. It’s all been settled now.

Nikki: I can read you better than you think. What’s going on?

Victor: Hello, diane.

Diane: Victor, what a surprise.

Victor: Were you trying to hide from me?

Kyle: Don’t panic. Claire sent a photo.

Summer: It’s harrison with the caterpillars.

Kyle: He wanted her to tell us they’re still, quote, “munching along”.

Summer: Look at the way that he’s pointing at them.

Kyle: Like one of the price is right models. You feel better?

Summer: I’m just so glad that harrison’s okay. After everything that he’s been through, he’s still himself.

Kyle: He’s resilient. Thank god for that. It’s amazing how just a picture of him can turn my whole day around.

Summer: I know, right? I didn’t even know what that was like before harrison came along.

Kyle: Yeah, so, clearly, he and claire are having fun. So, we can stop worrying.

Summer: It was nice of her to message us.

Kyle: Does this mean you’ve changed your mind about claire? Do you feel better about claire being harrison’s nanny?

Claire: There were so many. That was so cool.

Harrison: I know. Did they like it?

Claire: Yeah, I think your parents really appreciated the update. That was so thoughtful. Hey, you know, we could start a log to keep track of the caterpillar’s progress.

Harrison: Have you ever seen a caterpillar turn into a butterfly?

Claire: In fact, I have. There were caterpillars in the backyard where I grew up, and I watched them build their cocoons. And then, I waited. And I waited.

Harrison: Waiting is hard.

Claire: You’re telling me. I was worried the day was never gonna come or that I would miss it. And then one day, I was sitting outside when I had just about given up, and I heard crunch, crunch, crunch. So, I turned around, and then I saw it. A butterfly made its way out, and then took off flying through the sky.

Harrison: Wow!

Claire: Yeah, it’s pretty cool, isn’t it? I mean, they start out just crawling around, and then they go to sleep for a really long time. And then, one day, they’ve grown wings, and they can fly. It’s a metamorphosis.

Harrison: A meta-what?

Claire: Metamorphosis. It means change. I feel really hopeful when I see something like that. You know, you start off as one thing, and then you become something else.

Harrison: You’re so lucky. Daddy said I have to be patient.

Claire: Well, good things come to those who wait. Or so I’ve been told.

Harrison: I hope it happens. Then we can see the butterflies together.

Claire: Yeah!

Jack: First, tell me why you reached out. What’s going on? Did you feel the urge to drink?

Nikki: Oh, no, no. Just the opposite. I was calling to share some news with you, but it starts off bad.

Jack: Okay, I’ll brace myself.

Nikki: Jordan has been found. Alive.

Jack: Wait, she survived the fall into the river? She can’t be in very good shape. Please tell me she hasn’t hurt anyone else.

Nikki: No, no. She’s in custody, locked up in a maximum security.

Jack: Good. How are you dealing with that news?

Nikki: Well, it was quite a shock. I would rather she be gone for good.

Jack: Yeah, given what she did to harrison and claire, that makes two of us.

Nikki: The last time I got news like this, it drove me straight to the bottle. But this time, I didn’t feel the need.

Jack: So what do you think was different this time?

Nikki: Well, I had my outpatient session earlier, and I shared at a meeting. I’m just feeling more grounded than I have been.

Jack: Wonderful. It’s real progress. Thank you for sharing that progress with me.

Nikki: I put a lot on you. I thought it would be nice for you to hear something good for a change.

Jack: I’m very proud of you.

Nikki: So, at this moment, I am stable enough to hear what you clearly don’t wanna tell me.

Jack: When you asked for my help earlier, I immediately, automatically said yes.

Nikki: This is about you being my sponsor?

Jack: Yes. I’ve given that idea some more thought.

Nikki: Because of the lengths you went to save me that night, I completely understand. Are you trying to tell me that you can no longer be my sponsor?

Victor: Your husband put my wife in danger. He, um… spent the night with her. In her hotel room, he got drugged up and she got sloshed. What’s your opinion about that?

Diane: Well, it was– it was a complicated night, but jack ended up in more danger than nikki. I mean, he passed out. She didn’T.

Victor: So he told you about all that?

Diane: Yes, we don’t keep secrets.

Victor: So you knew where he was all night, and you knew that he took pills and acted like an idiot?

Diane: Jack had his reasons. He– he wanted to get nikki to go to rehab.

Victor: He could’ve killed them both.

Diane: Victor, he did what he thought was best in the moment.

Victor: Let’s recapitulate this. Your husband spends all night with my wife in a hotel suite. He takes pills, gets all hopped up, she is sloshed. And you don’t think that’s a betrayal? Uhhh.

Summer: Don’t push me.

Kyle: That’s not what I’m doing.

Summer: You are. I– I just saw an adorable photo of our son. You are taking advantage of my warm and fuzzy mood.

Kyle: Okay, forget I said anything.

Summer: Look, yes. Fine. I would like to let go of my mistrust of claire. But it takes time.

Kyle: I see you’re trying. I appreciate it. I know it’s hard for you.

Summer: I know it’s not all about me. After harrison’s kidnapping, he deserves to be around somebody that makes him feel safe and secure. And who makes him smile. And claire does that.

Kyle: And if you have doubts, just take a look at this happy kid.

Summer: Okay. I will try to embrace your certainty. Just give me a little breathing room, okay?

Kyle: Will do.

Summer: Gosh. All right, now that we have proof that our son is okay, should we maybe stop slacking off and head to work?

Kyle: Do we have to?

Summer: Is there something that you’re avoiding at the office? Wait, whatever happened between you and your mom, did you smooth all of that over?

Kyle: Definitely not. It’s bad. It’s tense. Awkward. She thinks I’m undermining her.

Summer: Are you?

Kyle: My skill set is stronger than hers. I one-up her without even trying. If she was actually on top of everything, this wouldn’t happen.

Summer: I don’t disagree with you. Look, as long as you’re not making underhanded moves behind her back, you should be fine. Kyle? Are you? What have you done?

Diane: Jack was in that hotel suite to stop your wife from drinking. He wanted to do whatever it took to get nikki sober.

Victor: He could’ve killed my wife. All because of his desperate need to act like a hero.

Diane: Well, it was a calculated move on jack’s part. I– I think what he did was selfless.

Victor: You really believe that? You’re trying to convince yourself. If I were you, diane. I’d take a very close and cold and hard look at the man you married to before he ruins your future.

Jack: Believe me, I do not take this decision lightly. I wish I could stay on as your sponsor, but I have to accept that this impacts you and my family.

Nikki: Of course. Family first. Kyle and diane need to know that you’re safe.

Jack: Diane was terrified by what I did. Not just staying out all night, but finding out I was with you and that I overdosed.

Nikki: I’m surprised she’s still speaking to me.

Jack: No, she’s happy that you found help. She is devastated by my choices.

Nikki: It was awful for me to see you like that. I’m sure it was equally devastating for her to hear about it.

Jack: She thinks it’s gonna happen again, and I tried to reassure her, but as you know, we addicts cannot guarantee anything.

Nikki: True. Now, jack, I just wanna ask you one more time. Please be honest. Have you really not been tempted to take any pills since that night?

Jack: I will admit it was a heady experience. But no, I have not had another pill. I’ve gone to meetings. I’ve gotten in touch with myself. I’ve tried to be as honest with myself as I can be, and…

Nikki: And what do you find?

Jack: I don’t wanna take that risk again. I’ve got too much to lose.

Nikki: Well, I’m glad you have your priorities straight. I did not, until you snapped me out of my self-pity and self-hatred.

Jack: Yeah, I knew that wasn’t you in the moment. I knew that was your addiction talking.

Nikki: You risked your sobriety and life to save mine, and I will be forever indebted to you. My god, what does it say about me that I would do it all again in a heartbeat?

Nikki: And that is why you can’t be my sponsor. It’s not fair to you or your family or diane. Funny, there was a time I would’ve been happy to cause some trouble for her.

Jack: Yeah, I remember it well.

Nikki: But to be honest, I owe her a debt of gratitude also. I mean, she let you be my sponsor, and she was surprisingly accepting. Please don’t feel guilty about this. I will find another sponsor. And you will always remain my dearest friend. Slowing my cancer from growing

Kyle: Jasper foley agreement. My mother was the person who worked on it initially.

Summer: And then what happened?

Kyle: I closed the deal without her input, and when she found out about it, she told me not to finalize it.

Summer: Because you went behind her back.

Kyle: It’s a good deal. It’s fiscally responsible. The only reason it hasn’t progressed is because of her fragile ego.

Summer: Kyle, I know you don’t wanna hear this, but your mom is technically your boss. If you did that with any other superior…

Kyle: No, I get it. I get it. I just hoped that she would see that I was doing what was best for the company, that I’m capable of more.

Summer: Look, I know that jabot is your world. I’ve seen how much time and energy and effort you’ve poured into its success. Jack should see that. So should diane.

Kyle: I just hope she doesn’t destroy the deal because she’s upset with me. Who knows what she’ll do.

Summer: Your mother is unpredictable.

Kyle: You have anything else you wanna add to the subject?

Summer: You know how I feel about your mom. She abandoned you as a child and repeatedly put herself first. As a mom, that makes me angry. And as someone who still cares about you, I don’t like it at all.

Kyle: Thanks for that. I appreciate the support.

Summer: You know, it’s ironic.

Kyle: Hmm.

Summer: A lot of the issues in our marriage were because of my distrust of diane. And now you’re feeling the way that I did.

Kyle: I love my mom. But I’m starting to see things about her differently.

Summer: Just be careful. Don’t lose sight of your ultimate goal.

Kyle: Thanks for the advice.

Summer: Thanks for not pushing me about claire.

Kyle: We have a pretty good kid, don’t we?

Summer: He’s the best.

Kyle: Hmm.

Summer: And he’s gonna be okay.

Jack: Even if I’m not your sponsor, we could still go to meetings together.

Nikki: I would like that.

Jack: Yeah. Well, if there’s any upside to this, victor will be happy.

Nikki: I have a confession to make. I didn’t tell him that I asked you to be my sponsor again.

Jack: Gee, I wonder why.

Nikki: Oh, he would’ve come around.

Jack: About you, maybe. Not me. No, when you went away to rehab, he came to visit and he was out for blood. No, he warned me in no uncertain terms to stay away from you.

Nikki: I’m sure he’s calmed down since then.

Jack: About me, I don’t think so. No, he hasn’t forgiven me. I think he’s gonna hold this against me for a long time.

Nikki: Well, that would be wrong of him. Our spouses may not understand what we lived through that night. But we do.

Victor: There was a time when you and I were on the same side, right?

Diane: Yes, we were. But our marriage ended when you left me for nikki.

Victor: I used to admire you. You know, you were tough, you were savvy. Took no bull, you were a survivor.

Diane: And yet when i returned to town alive, a lot of people weren’t pleased, including you.

Victor: Because no one understood, including me, why you turned to jack abbott. He’s weak. You, on the other hand, are a viper.

Diane: Well, there’s the victor that I know.

Victor: So you allowed jack to defang you. He took power away from you. And your son is in the process of doing the same. I used to admire you, respect you. Now I pity you.

Michael: I’m sorry I’m late. I was getting a status update on jordan. All good.

Victor: I have no time for this, okay?

Michael: When you said that you wanted to meet, I was hoping we could, uh, grab a drink, clear the air.

Victor: There’s no need.

Michael: Victor, I know you’re displeased about how things turned out with jordan, that cole and I stepped in and undercut your plans, but–

Victor: Let me tell you something, michael baldwin. You betrayed me. You’re fired.

Michael: Seems I’m out of a job. Wanna buy me a drink? Looking for a smarter way to mop?

Sally: Summer, hi.

Summer: Sally.

Sally: Getting some fresh air?

Summer: Yeah. I mean, it’s a beautiful day, right? I guess the traveling carnival’s not here anymore. Did you get a chance to go to that?

Sally: No. No. Been there, done that. Did you take harrison?

Summer: He– he loved it. He loved the rides, the candy.

Sally: Yeah, I bet connor would’ve loved it, too.

Summer: I’m sorry he wasn’t here for it. I hope that chelsea and adam’s visit with him goes well.

Sally: Yeah, me too. I mean, you know, they’ve all had a really rough time with it, and adam’s been a wreck. But, you know, he just– is doing his best to be there for connor.

Summer: I’m sure adam leans on you a lot.

Sally: Yeah, but, you know, I want to be there for him, so…

Summer: It can be hard to be the supportive one. Though I don’t imagine being adam’s girlfriend is very easy.

Sally: We have had our challenges, but we are great. And right now, connor comes first. And I support that completely. You know, he adores connor, and I just wanna do what I can to, you know, get him through this.

Summer: That’s very mature of you. And perceptive.

Sally: Two things you normally don’t associate with me.

Summer: Look, I have reason to doubt your sincerity.

Sally: Can’t argue with that.

Summer: Sally, look, I assume you’re aware that chelsea suggested you take over for her at marchetti while she’s on leave?

Sally: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I am.

Summer: Look, from a business standpoint, it does make sense. You’ve got the fashion experience, you have knowledge of the brand.

Sally: But the fact that it’s me, that’s the sticking point, right?

Summer: You and i working together? Yeah, it’s kind of hard to imagine how that would go. But look, I do think it warrants a discussion.

Sally: Yeah, yeah, okay, let’s– let’s talk.

Diane: Here’s to being schooled by victor newman.

Michael: I’d say being bludgeoned with a hammer would be a more accurate description.

Diane: So, what did you do for him to be so angry at you?

Michael: Well, I can’t exactly get into details. Let’s just say I disobeyed orders.

Diane: Wow, it must’ve been some orders. Pretty bad for him to fire you.

Michael: This isn’t the first time I’ve been fired by victor newman. And I don’t anticipate that it will be the last.

Diane: I mean, what is the deal with that guy? Why does he wield so much control? Why is whatever victor says considered gold?

Michael: You two were having a very intense conversation when I walked in. Leave an impact?

Diane: I just hate that he gets to me. I mean, I should know better.

Michael: Let me guess. He did that victor thing where he says something horribly disparaging that somehow rings true.

Diane: Yes. He wanted to talk to me because he is angry at jack for just something that he did to try to help nikki.

Michael: What, as her sponsor?

Diane: Yes. He says that what jack did was reckless and dangerous and he blames jack for putting nikki at risk.

Michael: And how did you see it? This thing jack did.

Diane: Same way victor does. Of course, I couldn’t admit that. But I– I find myself siding with victor on this.

Kyle: Sorry to interrupt. Just wanted to check on how it’s going.

Harrison: Oh, hey, dad.

Nikki: Hey, big guy. Victor. I didn’t expect to see you here.

Victor: How are you doing? I’m alright.

Claire: You know what? Harrison, why don’t we, uh, why don’t we go play?

Victor: Now harrison, you better come back down again because I’m a cookie monster. I’m gonna eat all of them.

Claire: Let’s go.

Harrison: We have to come back.

Claire: Yeah, we will.

Kyle: Well.

Victor: These are good.

Kyle: I take it you are here for the cookies.

Victor: Hmm.

Kyle: Maybe a little something more?

Victor: I came by to deliver some news about jordan.

Kyle: Did they find her body?

Victor: My security team found her on the banks of the garewood river. She was still alive. And they put her into custody.

Kyle: Um, well, we– we have to increase security here. And– and for harrison, look, jordan can’t get to him again.

Victor: Well, don’t worry about that, okay? I would make absolutely certain that does not happen.

Kyle: Look, with all due respect, I don’t wanna underestimate her. She’s gotten out before.

Victor: Not gonna get out now. She’s in a maximum security prison. And I will make absolutely certain that nothing will happen to harrison.

Kyle: Thank you. Now, may I ask, who else knows? Because I was just with summer, she clearly doesn’T. She’s going to be freaked out. Does claire know?

Victor: Well, claire was shocked when I told her. But, um, I intend to talk about this with summer later.

Kyle: Would you mind if I was the one who told her?

Victor: No, of course not. So kyle, how do you– how do you like working at jabot?

Kyle: Um, yeah, things are great, thanks.

Victor: Yeah? Aren’t you now working under both of your parents? How’s that going?

Kyle: Um, we’re, uh, making it work.

Victor: Oh, yeah? Must be hard to take orders from your mother. You should be in her position, you know that.

Diane: Emt’s were called.

Michael: Yeah, well, he’s taking one hell of a risk.

Diane: Yeah, I just– just don’t get it. Why he would gamble with his addiction like that, and his life.

Michael: Well, really, diane, you might not wanna be reminded of this, but… nikki and jack, they go way back. I mean, they have a long, long-standing relationship. And if one were to look at it through that lens, one might understand why he would go to such an extreme for her.

Diane: Well, that doesn’t sit well with victor.

Michael: Nor with you, by the looks of it.

Diane: Yeah. I, uh, I told jack that if he was gonna be nikki’s sponsor again, that I would walk away from our marriage. And then he backed down.

Michael: Wow. That’s quite a bluff.

Diane: Yeah. I did what I needed to do. For myself, and for jack.

Michael: Would you have done it? Walked away from the marriage? From the man you’ve wanted all these years?

Diane: I can’t live in fear of another night like that. When– when he doesn’t come home. When– when the outcome could’ve been so much worse.

Michael: Well, you better be prepared.

Diane: For what?

Michael: I mean, jack may have changed his mind about sponsoring nikki. But, um… he may resent you for putting him in that position. Remember… they have a profound relationship.

Diane: All right, michael. Nikki might be jack’s friend. But I’m his wife. And I would like to think that his love for me is more than his concern for her.

Summer: Obviously, you and i have a very… complicated history when it comes to marchetti.

Sally: Yes, there is no excuse for what I did. Working with tara to blackmail you into leaving town. Although it did lead you to running marchetti, so…

Summer: It’s not easy for me to trust you.

Sally: I get it. Really. And I– I regret what I did. I’m so sorry.

Summer: And then there’s everything with my dad. How you chose adam over him. You really, really hurt him, sally.

Sally: Look, it makes sense why you wouldn’t want me to work at your company. But I’m not gonna apologize to you for my personal life, if that’s what you’re asking.

Summer: Okay, hang on. Look, you did push me out of jabot. But… I have to admit, I’m grateful for how everything worked out. I moved to italy. Kyle and I got married. I… became harrison’s stepmom.

Sally: So not all bad.

Summer: No. And being at marchetti gave me this opportunity to lead. And that has kept me grounded through a lot of changes in my life. Moving back home, everything with my mom and my marriage ending. This company is very important to me.

Sally: I get that. I’ve loved having my own companies to run.

Summer: But it doesn’t mean that I don’t want a life outside of that. And I do want the same thing for my employees. That’s why when chelsea came to me and asked for time off to be there for connor, of course I said yes. I really want marchetti to be a place where everybody’s needs are met, so that their talents can flourish.

Sally: I’m sorry, I’m probably sticking my foot in my mouth again. But that… seems different for you.

Summer: Well… I’m not the same person I was when you first met me.

Sally: Neither am I.

Summer: Look, I can’t just forget everything that you’ve done to me. And I wouldn’t expect anything less than your best behavior at marchetti.

Sally: And you shouldn’T.

Summer: Look, sally, I have been through hell lately, so I really don’t have the time or the energy to hold a grudge anymore. You have the credentials. I’m told you’re available.

Sally: Yeah, free as a bird.

Summer: If you want the job, on an interim basis, it’s yours.

Kyle: My father wanted my mother in the co-ceo position, and I respect his choice.

Victor: Er. Oh. Wouldn’t you wanna be in charge someday?

Kyle: Well, doesn’t everyone wanna move up?

Victor: Yeah. Well, kyle, I don’t blame you if you have visions of taking over the company. You know, of all the abbots I’ve known, you’re the closest to what john abbott was like. Calm, steady.

Kyle: Wow, that’s quite the compliment.

Victor: Don’t ever underestimate your own potential.

Kyle: I won’T. I promise you that.

Victor: Okay, bye. Nice to see you, kyle.

Kyle: Thanks for coming by, victor.

Victor: I’m sure you will take care of things.

Kyle: Yes, sir. I will.

Claire: Harrison is worn out. We had a very busy day. You saw the caterpillars?

Kyle: Yes, I did.

Claire: Is everything all right? Did– did victor say something to upset you?

Diane: I just saw victor’s car pulling out of the driveway. What did he want?

Kyle: Uh, victor came by to tell me that they found jordan. She’s alive. But in custody.

Diane: Oh, my god. I can’t believe she survived.

Kyle: Um, victor said he already told you.

Claire: He did. He wanted to tell the family himself. He’s certain that we don’t need to worry about her anymore.

Diane: Well, I hope so. For everyone’s sake.

Kyle: Are you just coming from the office?

Diane: Oh, no, no. I had some, um, outside meetings. I– I haven’t been– I haven’t been in yet.

Kyle: Hmm, outside meetings? With who?

Diane: There it is again.

Kyle: What?

Diane: Oh, that judging tone of yours. What’s the problem, kyle? Are you looking for new ways to disparage my job performance? When migraine strikes,

Sally: Okay, so, um… if you don’t mind, I would really like to come by the office. You know, whenever works for you. To, you know, see where you’re at with the line, see what’s needed. Maybe speak to some of the staff. Is there a problem?

Summer: Um… no. Everything’s fine. Um, I actually… have some time right now. Should we get to work?

Nikki: Hello.

Victor: Hi, sweetheart. How did your session go?

Nikki: Very well. I feel strong and positive.

Victor: Uh-huh. Now, have you thought about a new sponsor? Can’t be jack abbott. He fell off the damn wagon.

Nikki: Actually, I did ask jack if he could continue as my sponsor.

Victor: I don’t get it. After what he put you through?

Nikki: Well, don’t worry. He turned me down.

Victor: Really?

Nikki: Yeah, I think it’s just been too taxing for him and diane. I can’t blame her. If I were in her shoes, I would probably feel the same way.

Victor: How could you even consider this?

Nikki: Jack has been a tremendous help to me as a friend and as a sponsor, and I will continue to rely on him.

Victor: No! You can’t go back to him. I don’t want you anywhere near that guy.

Claire: I’m gonna go check on harrison.

Kyle: You know, mom, why do you always assume the worst of me? I was just curious if you were having a meeting with the accounting team.

Diane: Sure you were.

Kyle: You know, I just wanna stay in the loop on top of things. Most companies would value that in their coo.

Diane: Well, most coo’s wouldn’t constantly be questioning their ceo. When is this gonna stop, kyle?

Jack: What’s going on here?

Diane: Nothing, nothing. Uh, did you talk to nikki?

Jack: I did. It’s done. I’m no longer nikki’s sponsor. So somebody wanna tell me what I just walked in on?

Kyle: There’s nothing. Nothing at all. Everything is fine.

Mariah: All of this admiration for claire. Is there maybe something else going on?

Audra: This has nothing to do with vengeance. That’s your game and your weakness.

Tucker: What is it you want?

Audra: I want glissade. I want it all.

Alan: No, I think it happened exactly as you say. It just didn’t happen with me. I believe you spent the evening with, uh… my brother.

Tucker: Audra? If you’re in there, please open up.

[ Audra sighs ]

Audra: What the hell are you doing here, tucker?

Tucker: I could ask you the same question, couldn’t I?

Alan: Thank you.

[ Alan exhales ]

Traci: Ashley, you okay?

Ashley: Yeah, it just feels strange to be back.

Traci: Strange how?

Ashley: I didn’t know what to expect. I wasn’t sure if maybe one of my other personalities was here and did something to the apartment, but it does seem to be pretty much the same way as it was when I left it. Then again, I guess something could’ve happened and I just don’t have access to it, right?

Alan: Well, that’s what we’re here to find out. But just take our time, okay?

Traci: Look, it was a really long flight and I bet you spent most of it worrying. You must be exhausted.

Ashley: Yeah, I think I’ll go freshen up.

Alan: That’s a good idea.

Traci: Well, I– I think it’s going okay. Do you? I mean, she seems a little nervous, but that’s understandable in the circumstances.

Alan: Yeah, of course, she’d be on edge coming here, not knowing what to expect, but hopefully being in her own apartment will bring her some comfort and make it safe enough for her to unravel what happened.

Traci: It must be just terrifying to realize that you’ve got alternate personalities vying for control.

Alan: Yeah, and that’s clearly a shock she’s still processing.

Traci: But this is our ashley with us. I’m– I’m convinced that this is my sister here with us.

Alan: No, I agree. I saw no sign of any of the other personalities coming out.

Traci: So, what is your game plan? I mean, now that we’re all here, what do we do?

Ashley: We need to get out of here and fast before it’s too late.

Claire: It’s hard to decide. I’m starting a new job today and I want to take some treats to make a good impression. It’s for a kid, so you can’t go wrong with brownies, right? I’ll take three. Actually, sorry, hold on. He can’t eat those for breakfast. Maybe muffins? Um, no, muffins would be a huge disappointment. Brownies it is. He can have them after lunch.

Kyle: No, that’s it, buddy. Oh, straighten up a little bit. Just watch where you’re going. Oh, look at that boy riding a bike. He picked it up pretty quickly.

Summer: Maybe a little too quick– harrison, be careful.

Kyle: Well, today’s a big day for all of us.

Summer: Yeah, it’s a little nerve-wracking. At least it is for me.

Kyle: I’m really proud of you, summer.

Summer: I don’t need you to be proud of me, kyle. I need you to be right about claire.

Harrison: Mommy, daddy, look at me. I’m going fast.

Summer: Okay, maybe a little too fast, sweetie. Can you slow down?

Kyle: Good job, buddy. Okay, it’s time to come in and wash up for breakfast, okay?

Summer: Put your bike in the garage first.

Jack: Turns out that grandson of ours has some skills. He picked up that bicycle riding thing without a hitch.

Diane: Hmm. He amazes me every day. He can do anything he sets his mind to.

Jack: I think he got that from you.

Diane: Oh, I don’t know. There are some things I can’t do.

Jack: Like forgive me? Look, I know you’re still upset with me for agreeing to be nikki’s sponsor again, I–

Diane: That’s right, I am. And the more I think about it, the more upset I become.

Jack: Okay, well, we have to find a way past this. Could we at least talk about it some?

Diane: What more is there to say, jack? You know how I feel.

Jack: Yes, I know.

Diane: No! I’ve made a decision. I can’t take this anymore. I’m done. Ok, someone just did laundry…

Jack: Wait, you say that like you’re done with us. Surely, you can’t mean that.

Diane: It does seem impossible, doesn’t it? After everything we’ve been through to end up in this sad place. You know, my– my return with your doubts and suspicions and then falling in love again so completely that we didn’t care what anyone else thought.

Jack: Yes, the kind of love that doesn’t just disappear.

Diane: No, it doesn’T. And that’s why this breaks my heart, but maybe this is what it has to come to.

Jack: All because I agreed to be nikki’s sponsor?

Diane: No, no, jack, it’s more than that. It’s that you don’t seem to care about my feelings in any of this.

Jack: You have always been supportive of my helping her.

Diane: Outwardly, yes. I have tried to understand why this is so important to you, but honestly, it’s been tearing me up inside and I just– I can’t do it anymore.

Jack: Wait, wait, wait. Can’t– can’t do what?

Diane: Oh, come on. Pretend that it doesn’t bother me when you run out at the drop of a hat just because nikki calls. I mean, you have made your priorities very clear over and over again.

Jack: You, our marriage, our family is my priority. Nikki’s going through a rough time.

Diane: Oh, god.

Jack: She’s depending on me and I think I can help her.

Diane: Really? Like you helped her last time when you almost od’d trying to help her?

Jack: No, I realize I went too far. I have promised you that’s not going to happen again.

Diane: Well, I don’t think that’s a promise you can keep, especially since you have agreed to be her sponsor again.

Jack: When I commit to doing something, you can count on me. You know that.

Diane: Jack, you made a decision in that moment to put nikki above everything, including your own life. And– and that kind of instinct comes from deep inside you and it’s not something that can be promised away.

Jack: What can I say to make you believe me? I swear nothing like that will ever happen again.

Diane: You swore that you wouldn’t be tempted to use the first time you agreed to be nikki’s sponsor and you did.

Jack: That was different. This wasn’t out of temptation or craving.

Diane: It doesn’t matter why you did it, jack. You used. And how do you know you’re not going to do it again?

Jack: Because I know myself.

Diane: Oh, really? Do you? You told me before that an addict will use any excuse to use. What if on some deeper level, watching nikki give into her addiction made you want to give into yours? To feel that high again?

Audra: What are you doing here?

Tucker: You should check your email ’cause I just sent you some legal documents. It’s a– an order to cease and desist on any and all glissade interactions.

Audra: Look, I’m sorry, tucker, but you don’t get to decide who I can and can’t speak to. And I don’t care what your legal papers say.

Tucker: What makes you think that you can meet on your own with the heads of the companies I acquired for my company.

Audra: What I do and who I choose to do it with is my business.

Tucker: Yeah, and glissade is mine. You think you can just waltz in here and rip it out from under me?

Audra: Sorry, tucker, but i don’t owe you any explanations. What I’m doing in paris is my business. Now, you can just leave and get the hell out of my room. Go back to genoa city to the people you claim to care so much about.

Ashley: Don’t listen to another word they’re saying. Get out of here now while you still can.

Alan: I wish I could say I had a specific plan, but I think we’re gonna have to take our cues from ashley.

Traci: Okay, what signs are you looking for?

Alan: Well, uh, mainly her memories coming back. Uh, whatever the traumatic event was, likely happened after her fight with tucker. So once we identify that, we can get at the root of what caused her to split her off into these different personalities.

Traci: Oh, this is just unnerving. The risk to her, that she has to remember something so that she can deal with it, and that means facing something terribly painful. I hate that for her.

Alan: I know, it’s– it’s a delicate process. It all hinges on whether or not ashley can suppress her alters.

Traci: Wait, you– you mean you think they could take control again?

Alan: It is a distinct possibility, and we should proceed accordingly.

Traci: Well, alan, I– I had thought that once she understood what was happening to her, that our ashley could have the strength to resist.

Alan: I wish it were that simple, but it looks like ashley’s alters have a– well a fairly firm grip on her psyche.

Ashley: Oh, honey, what are you doing? You shouldn’t be here. Why don’t you let me handle this? Don’t be afraid. Just let go. I have moderate to severe plaque psoriasis.

Jack: I can’t believe you would think that. The last thing I wanted was to join nikki in her wasted state of damn near incoherence. I can’t believe you think any part of that would appeal to me.

Diane: But you did it, jack. Whether it appealed to you or not. You risked your life, and I can’t live with that uncertainty again. Worrying every day that if nikki slips, you might too.

Jack: What do I have to say? What do I have to do to get you to believe me? Tell me, I’ll do it.

Diane: How about not being her sponsor again? I mean, what– what am i supposed to do? Am I supposed to be the silently supportive wife left to wonder every time you run to nikki’s side whether or not you’ll even come home or take pills or worse?

Jack: I wish you would just believe in me.

Diane: Oh no, that’s not fair, jack. Don’t you dare make this about my lack of trust or faith in you. You broke that. And now I have to live in fear every day that kyle will end up without a father or harrison without a grandfather or– or me without the love that i waited so long to have.

Jack: I waited a long time for that love too. I am not going to do anything to jeopardize our future together.

Diane: Well, I don’t know about that. And while I can’t stop you from helping nikki, I can’t be here to see how far you might be willing to go to be that help.

Jack: Okay, I hear you. Clearly you’re very serious or you wouldn’t be talking about walking away from what we have. But what do we do now?

Diane: I’m going to give you some time to think about this. To let it all sink in.

Jack: Diane!

Tucker: How did we end up here, audra?

Audra: You know exactly how. You followed me to paris, tracked me down, then barged in here uninvited.

Tucker: That’s not what I mean and you know it. We were on top of the world. We were genuinely happy. At least I was. I… I was ready to commit my entire life to you. With or without the ring. With or without the vows. I still am. Why? Why are you doing this?

Audra: You can be so smart about some things, but so utterly oblivious about others. You chose everyone else over me. You changed your plans because of ashley and then you changed them because of devon. Look, I was never the most important one to you. You say that you love me, but you couldn’t put me at the forefront of your life. Not once. And I was a fool to believe in your promises. That as soon as you helped ashley or as soon as you got back into devon’s good graces, then I’d be the center of your world. I fell for the oldest lie in the book. That I could change you. That my love would change you, but you will never change. And I’ll never let myself believe you again.

Ashley: Get out of here now, ashley. Let me help you, honey. Let me out. No, I will not.

Alan: Well, I better head back to my apartment, drop off my bags, i’ll take a quick shower, but I will be back soon, okay?

Traci: Okay, alan, what should I do while you’re gone? I mean, what can I do to keep my sister safe?

Alan: Just do whatever you can to keep her focused and engaged.

Ashley: Hey, do you guys want some coffee?

Alan: Oh, no, thanks. I gotta go back to my apartment, but I’ll be back soon. Give you time to get settled, okay?

Ashley: Thank you so much.

Alan: Of course.

Ashely: For everything you’re doing, I’m so grateful.

Alan: Ah, of course, hon, of course. I’ll be back soon.

Traci: Ashley, you must be just exhausted. If you’re tired and you need to sleep–

Ashley: I can’T.

Traci: I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to push you.

Ashley: No, it’s not that. I’m just afraid. I’m afraid to go to sleep.

Traci: What are you afraid of?

Ashley: I can feel them around me, tracy. I can hear them. They’re in my head right now. I can hear them. They– they want to take charge. I’m sorry. They’re looking for a chance, and I just– I have to stay awake.

Traci: Okay, I– I know that you’re frightened, but listen to me, we’re on the right path. We are on track to finding out what’s going on with you, and we are going to find solutions. We are. Once and for all.

Ashley: I believe that, but I can’t let my guard down. I know that they’re trying to protect me from something, but I can’t let them. I can’t let them take over. Not right now.

Summer: Today’s a big day, isn’t it?

Harrison: Uh-huh. Claire is coming.

Summer: That’s right. She is gonna hang out with you while mommy and daddy are at work, and you are gonna be just fine.

Harrison: We’re gonna have a lot of fun.

Summer: I’m sure you are. Harrison, you know that I love you more than anything in this world, right? And I am going to be thinking about you all day long, and I’m gonna be imagining all the fun that you’re having. But listen, if you get sad or upset, or even if you just miss me or your daddy, just have claire call us, okay? Anytime. Or you can call us yourself. You remember how to do that, right? You just pick up the phone, you press one, and it’s all set for you to call us anytime, okay?

Harrison: I know.

Kyle: You know what? I have a feeling today is going to be a really good day for all of us.

[ Knock on door ]

Harrison: Claire, you’re here!

Claire: Hey.

Tucker: Are you really gonna throw away what we have because I want to help my son. That’S… what kind of a person just walks away from his family?

Audra: Wait, isn’t that what you wanted ashley to do? Wasn’t that what your big blow-up was about? You were willing to walk away because she wouldn’t sever her relationship with her family. Sounds like you’re getting a bit of karmic payback.

Tucker: You’re using ashley as your defense?

Audra: I’m just pointing out your hypocrisy.

Tucker: One situation has absolutely nothing to do with the other.

Audra: You know, you’re absolutely right. They are very different. Ashley’s family actually cares about her. She would’ve lost a lot if she’d given them up for you. You, on the other hand… your son doesn’t give a damn about you. He has no use for you and probably has no intention of ever giving you a second or tenth chance.

Tucker: Well, you know that things are complicated between him and me and hell, you’ve been around for my efforts to–

Audra: All of which have failed.

Tucker: I see, so I should just– just give up? Devon, dominic’s nice knowing you, but forget it.

Audra: I never said to forget your son and grandson. I simply asked you to follow through on the plans you made with me. You’re the one who set up this either-or scenario. Okay, either I accept your priorities or our business and personal partnership is over.

Tucker: It was never, ever either-or. It was always you, end. There was never a scenario where there was no you, audra. Never.

Audra: I am tired of this argument. And I don’t need to justify my decision to you. Look, my eyes have finally been opened. You will never make me a priority, so I’m done. Now, please get out and leave me alone.

Tucker: So that’s it. Really? It’s over? Stay away from glissade.

Ashley: Thank you.

Traci: Mm-hmm. Ashley, I think I might understand how scared you must be.

Ashley: I don’t think you do. I don’t think anybody can, really. I mean, you know, I just kind of wake up and I realize that I’ve been doing things and saying things that I have absolutely no memory of. It’s like I have no control over my own being, and that’s so frightening. I mean, I just wouldn’t wish it on anybody.

Traci: I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to diminish the severity of what you’re going through.

Ashley: No, I know. I didn’t mean it that way. I guess I’m just trying to explain it to you as much as I’m trying to explain it to myself. You know? I, like, don’t understand. Why would I reconnect with tucker? What would motivate that?

Traci: Okay, you know, I think we should wait for alan for this. I mean, he’s the one that’s trained and prepared to walk you through it.

Ashley: But I don’t understand. If they’re trying to protect me, then why would I drag tucker back into this?

Traci: I don’t know. Maybe they think tucker could protect you somehow?

Ashley: Does that make any sense to you? I have family for that. I’ve got friends for that.

Traci: You do. And we’re people who love you and want only the best for you.

Ashley: Thank you. I guess I should wait, right? Wait for alan before I try digging into my psyche.

Traci: Yeah, but for now, I mean, tell me. Is there anything you want? Anything you need? What can I do?

Ashley: There is one thing.

Traci: Name it.

Ashley: Could you just keep an eye on me? I mean, could you just watch me and just… I don’t know. Make sure if I do anything out of character or something. Just make sure I’m me. I would’ve called yesterday.

Announcer: The young and the restless will continue…

Jack: Diane? Diane, hold up. I can’t let you walk away like this. We have to talk this through.

Diane: There’s nothing more to talk about. How many times do I have to explain how I feel?

Jack: As many times as it takes to work this out. Look, I hate that I worried you so much that night. That’s why this will never happen again.

Diane: Yeah, you say that, jack. But you clearly don’t get what I went through all night when you didn’t come home. You know, I had no idea what could’ve happened to you and all the horrible scenarios that went through my head. A– a– an accident, a mugging, a heart attack.

Jack: None of those things happened. I am fine. I am healthy. I’m here. And I am determined to build our life together.

Diane: You deliberately put yourself in harm’s way without thinking about how it would affect me. Without thinking about how much I need you. How much your family needs you. How am I supposed to live with that?

Jack: I don’t know. I will apologize a million times over. I will swear on everything i hold dear that I will never do this to you again.

Diane: All right, just stop. It’s not enough because I have seen how far you’ll go for nikki and how far you’re not willing to go for me. I mean, what if the situation with her gets bad again? What’s to stop you from doing something just as dangerous? I’m sorry. I’m sorry if it seems unfair. But I have to end things now. I don’t have another choice.

[ Cell phone buzzes ]

Jack: This is not fair. Nikki needs help. She still needs help. This is not the way to handle this.

Diane: Nikki needs help? What about us, jack? Our marriage needs help.

Jack: They are two completely different situations and I will tell you walking out on me is not the way to help our marriage.

Diane: You know what? Don’t tell me how to handle this. Leaving is a decision that I have to make for myself. I am the only one who gets to decide what i can live with and what I can’T.

Summer: It would be great if you could limit harrison’s junk food intake in between meals. We’ve got plenty of healthy snacks in the fridge for him. And it– it was nice of you to bring brownies but those will definitely need to wait until after lunch.

Claire: Yeah, of course. I completely understand and will follow all of your rules. I understand the importance of boundaries for all of us.

Summer: Um, and I don’t want you leaving the property for now.

Harrison: No? No ducks today? They might be hungry.

Kyle: I’m sure they’ll survive. At least until claire gets a booster seat for you.

Claire: Oh, I’ve actually been doing some research about that for the safest brand and i wanted to ask you if you had a preference.

Kyle: Proactive thinking. I’m impressed.

Summer: Ah, I appreciate that, claire but I will be picking out the booster seat.

Harrison: Will claire be here all day? How much time do we have? Because I’ve got a list of stuff to do.

Claire: I am so glad to hear that and I have a list too but we don’t have to cram it all in today. We might get a chance to hang out again soon.

Traci: Ashley, I am here for you and I am going to do everything in my power to make sure that my sister, who I love so much, stays present and safe and in control.

Ashley: Thank you. I couldn’t do this without you. I have so many questions.

Traci: Ah, we both do and i wish I had answers for us but ashley, we’re gonna get some soon.

Ashley: You think so? Because I heard– I heard alan talking about his plan or lack of a plan. I mean, I get the dilemma, right? He’s counting on me to guide us but I mean, I– it’s like a dead zone. It– there’s–

Traci: Okay, alan has gotten us this far and I have to believe he’s gonna find a way to break through.

Ashley: I hope so because I’m just putting all my faith in him but the problem is he’s counting on me.

Tucker: Oh, excuse me. Hey, alan. How’s it going? Where’S… when my doctor gave me breztri for my copd

Alan: How you doing, ashley? Did you get some, uh, rest?

Traci: Oh, no, she’s so full of caffeine. She couldn’t possibly sleep.

Ashley: Yeah, I was afraid to. I didn’t want one of the other personalities to get a foothold.

Alan: Well, that’s understandable but exhaustion can bring them out as well.

Ashley: So what are you telling me? No matter what I do, they’re gonna take over?

Alan: No, of course not. I’m just saying I– I want you to go easy on yourself. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself, okay?

Ashley: I wanna do this now.

Traci: She’s been so eager to jump right in, you know, piece together everything that’s happened to her but we decided that we’d wait for you to return before we got started.

Ashley: But I do wanna do this now.

Alan: Okay. Coffee and talk is what we’ll do. We’ll, uh, we’ll piece this all together, okay?

Ashley: Okay. So what exactly are you hoping for? I mean, I know you want me to remember things but how am i supposed to do that?

Alan: Well, I want us to try to revive memories of what happened after your fight with tucker and before you came home. I think it’s in that window of time that something happened to you, traumatic enough to, uh, bring out those protective alters.

Traci: So ashley, can you think of what that might be?

Ashley: Ah, listen, I’ve been trying. I’ve been wracking my brain. I’ve just got nothing.

Alan: Well, even if you can’t remember exactly what happened, do you have any idea of maybe where you went or what you did or… well, what did you and tucker do before the bistro?

Ashley: Uh, I’m not sure about that exactly but I do know that I’d been up the whole night before. I’d been really wrestling with the, uh, the thought of having to just walk away from my family and give up jabot and I– I knew I had to talk to tucker about it. I knew it was gonna be, you know, difficult. So I was apprehensive but I was hopeful but obviously the whole thing unraveled.

Alan: Okay. Well, do you remember maybe what happened after then, um? Did you go somewhere to clear your mind or something? Have coffee or get a drink or… just, you know, try to close your eyes and retrace your steps ’cause any little detail could, uh, trigger a really important memory.

Ashley: Okay, that scares me when you say that. When you tell me that I have to retrace my steps, it’s very frightening for me.

Alan: That could be because your subconscious doesn’t want you to face what happened. Your mind’s been blocking this out. And that’s why it’s so important that we do this.

In unison: One, two, three, four. I declare a thumb war.

Harrison: Yeah!

Claire: Ah, you got me!

Kyle: Okay, you two. Mom and I are leaving now.

Summer: But because it’s your first day, we’re not gonna be gone too long.

Claire: No problem. Harrison and I will be just fine.

Summer: You know what? Maybe I should just work from here actually. Out of the way, in the office or the den or something so I’m– I’m nearby just in case.

Kyle: Summer, I’m sure they’ll be fine. We just love you so much. We hate to leave. We like having fun with you and hanging out but we have to go to work. Now, we’re all gonna be brave today, right?

Harrison: Mommy, don’t worry. Claire’s going to take good care of me. We’re gonna have a lot of fun. Right, claire?

Claire: You bet.

Kyle: Okay.

Summer: Bye, sweetie. I love you. Have a good day, okay?

Kyle: See you later, buddy. All right.

Harrison: Come on, claire. Wait till you see where the caterpillars hang out.

Claire: What? Let’s go!

Kyle: Let’s go.

Jack: Keeping nikki sober is the only thing I am trying to do here.

Diane: You act like I’m being selfish. I’d like to see nikki sober too. But this is not an either-or situation. You are not the only option for her, jack. Even victor thought you were a terrible choice to be nikki’s sponsor.

Jack: Well, now we’re going to quote victor? His opinion doesn’t hold any weight with me.

Diane: Well, neither does mine.

Jack: No, that is not true and you know it. This is– this is about a recovery support group and what they do. They support each other. That’s all that’s happening here. Nikki and I have a rapport. We have a trust that she’s not gonna find with anybody else. And to ask her to start all over with a new sponsor right now of all times is just– it’s cruel.

Diane: So you think I’m being cruel?

Jack: No, I’m not saying that you’re cruel. I’m saying you don’t understand why I am ideally suited to be her sponsor right now.

Diane: Jack, have you considered the possibility that nikki chose you because she knew that you’d go easier on her than some unknown sponsor? Let’s be honest, she certainly found a way to do a lot of drinking on your watch.

Jack: It’s a lot more complicated than that. The fact that she was drinking is why she needed a sponsor. If I hadn’t been there, it could’ve been a whole lot worse.

Diane: So she can find another sponsor. You could even help her. You could help her find someone more suited to her needs.

Claire: I didn’t get a chance to tell you last night. You’re looking at harrison abbott’s new nanny.

Victoria: Oh, I am?

Claire: Summer changed her mind. She decided to give me a trial run. Hence my search for adorable snacks.

Victoria: That’s wonderful. You should be proud.

Claire: I’m really excited. Harrison’s the best and I’m really grateful for this opportunity.

Victoria: Is there something else?

Claire: It’s all a little bit nerve-wracking. Small kid means big responsibility. Summer’s been wary of me. So she’s gonna keep a very close eye on me.

Victoria: She has no reason to doubt your abilities.

Claire: I really wanna earn her trust. Make a good impression. Really just be the best nanny ever.

Nikki: Thanks. I just got back yesterday. I finished my initial treatment at the rehab facility and they approved me for outpatient care. So I’m home.

Jack: Well, that’s great news. Sounds like you’ve made real progress.

Nikki: I still have a ways to go, but I will get there.

Jack: Yes, you will. I have no doubt about it. And you look terrific. You look rested and strong and it’s all over your face.

Nikki: Well, it wasn’t easy to go away, but it was necessary. I realized that I needed more significant help.

Jack: I’m glad you made that choice for yourself.

Nikki: I didn’t get there on my own. You helped me get there. You are the reason why I am back on the right path.

Chelsea: Adam, I’m almost ready. I just have to– hi, it’s you.

Billy: So how’s your head right now?

Chelsea: Uh, kind of all over the place. This is the first time we’re gonna see connor since he went to the facility. I mean, we attempted to before, but it was a complete disaster.

Billy: But he’s in a better headspace now, and he’s ready to see you in person.

Chelsea: Yeah, that’s what he says.

Billy: Great.

Chelsea: That’s what he says. And, um, the doctors agree. So we’re gonna meet with him in a controlled environment to make sure he feels safe and secure.

Billy: Sounds like a recipe for success.

Chelsea: I hope so. I’m just torn. I– part of me feels hopeful. The other part feels absolutely terrified.

Billy: Yeah. Well, you’ve been through a lot. All of you have, especially connor. And I just wanna be here to help in any way I can.

Chelsea: Well, just being here with you right now, it’s everything.

Billy: If the best thing I can do is hold your hand and tell you that you got this, then that’s what I’ll do. You got this, chels.

Nikki: We didn’t get a chance to talk before I went away about what happened in the hotel suite.

Jack: Yeah, it was one hell of a night, wasn’t it?

Nikki: Are you all right? Please tell me that you haven’t used since then.

Jack: Yeah, I’m fine. I’m fine. Honest. Gone to a few meetings, checked in with myself. No urge to take pills.

Nikki: Oh, thank god. I have gone over that night so many times. My mind, my spiral. How cruel I was to you.

Jack: Nuh-huh.

Nikki: And ultimately what you did to finally wake me up.

Jack: It was a calculated risk.

Nikki: You sacrificed your sobriety for mine.

Jack: I was desperate. I would’ve done anything to save you.

Nikki: Well, jack, what you did was very dangerous and you went too far.

Jack: Believe me, I have done my share of soul searching on that. And I’ve had to admit that my actions were too extreme. Things could’ve gone very differently.

Nikki: Oh, my god. When you passed out, it was like my whole world stopped. I– I was frozen in time. But I guess it took that to make me realize how far you had gone to bring me back from the brink.

Jack: I honestly thought I’d lost you.

Nikki: Well, what you did was the stupidest and bravest thing anybody has ever done for me.

Jack: Well, you’ve done the courageous part now. You dug deep, got yourself out of that hole. You went to rehab. You’re doing the work now.

Nikki: And I will continue to. I can’t afford to be cavalier. I’m still an alcoholic. I always will be. But I’m better than I was, thanks to you.

Jack: And this outpatient treatment’s working for you?

Nikki: So far, yes. But I still need a sponsor. I hope it’s not too much to ask that that still be you.

Victor: I was informed by my security team that they found jordan on the banks of the garewood river. And cole was there when they told me.

Victor: Apparently, she was barely breathing. In other words, she was alive.

Victoria: No, it can’t be. Well, where is she now?

Victor: They took her into custody. And apparently, she was just spewing nonsense, babbling. Taken her in for mental and physical examination.

Cole: With maximum security measures in place.

Claire: We thought we were free of her, but all this time she’s still been out there.

Victoria: Mom, are you okay?

Nikki: I had assumed that she was gone forever, that she could never be a threat to us again.

Victor: And she won’T. I don’t want you to worry about that, okay? Really, don’T.

Victoria: I’m grateful that she’s in custody, but–

Claire: But she’s found a way out before.

Cole: Well, the authorities are fully aware of the danger she’s capable of. She’s been sent to the highest maximum security prison there is.

Victor: By the way, that’s from a place that no one has ever escaped from.

Nikki: You know, there’s something very strange about this.

Victor: What?

Nikki: You said that she was chased by your men and fell into the river.

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: So how did she survive that fall? And how did she stay alive all this time? Your heart is the beat of life.

Adam: Hey, I didn’t know you were back in town. Chelsea told me you were gone on business.

Billy: I was, but I know that you’re gonna see connor, so I wanted to be here to support chelsea.

Adam: Ah, that’s very generous of you.

Billy: Well, chelsea said that you’ve been a big support while I’ve been gone. You’ve been reasonable and steadfast and determined.

Adam: It’s a big surprise coming from me, huh?

Billy: Guess what I’m trying to say is good on you, adam.

Adam: Yeah, the, uh, jet’s all fueled up.

Billy: Well, you can tell me that when you get back. Right now, you focus on your son.

Chelsea: I really believe sending him to this facility was the best thing for him. I do.

Billy: Good. You trust that feeling, okay? And just know that you’re on the right trajectory and that you need me for anything at all, let me know, okay? I’m always here for you no matter what.

Victor: How did jordan survive? Well, I would say out of pure evil, as she always has.

Nikki: She should be at the bottom of the river. On second thought, drowning is too good for her. I would prefer for her to suffer.

Cole: Well, jordan will spend the rest of her life in prison with no power, no control.

Claire: Till she rallies and tries to come after us again.

Victor: It’s not gonna happen, okay? She will never bother our family again.

Nikki: I pray you’re right.

Victor: I assure you that jordan will not cause any more damage.

Chloe: Any updates?

Sally: Um, unfortunately, no.

Chloe: Well, I guess it would be a long shot to hope for victor to go along with adam’s plan to help us out. I mean, listen to me. I can’t believe I thought that victor newman would rescue us.

Sally: Chloe, this isn’t easy for me to say. But I think we have reached the end of the line.

Chloe: What? No, no, no, no, no, no. We just haven’t found a solution yet. But we will. I– I know we will. It’s– it’s there somewhere.

Sally: I don’t think so. I mean, we’ve exhausted all of our options and we’ve turned over every rock.

Chloe: Yeah, but we’ve always come across setbacks and then we always figure it out. I mean, besides, neither of us have anything lined up. So, I mean, we might as well stick it out.

Sally: That’s the thing, um… so, I’m sure that you have heard that chelsea is taking a leave of absence from marchetti.

Chloe: Yeah, yeah. Chelsea told me that she wants to spend more time with connor.

Sally: Exactly. So, adam spoke with chelsea and chelsea’s gonna put in a word with summer for me to see if I can take over for her while chelsea is gone in the interim.

Chloe: Oh, wow, um… okay, so you didn’t think to maybe have a discussion with me first about this, your partner?

Sally: It all happened so fast. I– I reached out to you as soon as I could.

Chloe: Okay, so did summer make you an offer?

Sally: No, and– and she probably won’T. I mean, she doesn’t like me with good reason. So, she probably doesn’t want me to be the creative director.

Chloe: It’s possible, though. Or we wouldn’t be having this conversation.

Sally: Look, the role would be temporary just until chelsea feels ready to come back.

Chloe: But if summer offered it to you, you would take it and leave me behind. Oh. Wait, what’s– what’s with the bag?

Diane: I have tried to make the best of this situation between you and nikki. And I had concerns when you first agreed to be her sponsor, but I kept my mouth shut because I know how important it is to you.

Diane: And you have made that perfectly clear. Even though you know how hard it was for me to accept that you put your life in danger for her. Jack, you took pills and you could’ve died. All because you were trying to save nikki.

Diane: No, no. She takes up so much of your time and energy. And– and I have tried to be the bigger person, but you are making this very difficult for me.

Diane: No, it’s too much. You gambled with your addiction and you could’ve died. Why? Why would you take that chance again?

Jack: You saw nikki just now. She’s doing better. She is. She’s stronger. She’s more herself. I saw it.

Diane: Well, I’m glad she went to rehab and I’m glad she’s improving. That’s wonderful. But there’s no guarantee it’ll stay that way.

Jack: No, I think it’s gonna be different this time.

Diane: Yeah, but what if it’s not? What if she slips? What are you going to do? Are you gonna call up your dealer and risk everything to pull her back from the edge again?

Jack: No, I have promised you that’s not going to happen again. I just finished telling nikki my actions were extreme.

Diane: But in your mind it worked, right? You accomplished your goal. You got nikki to wake up and set herself straight.

Jack: I can’t say I am disappointed with how it turned out.

Diane: That’s fine. But as your wife, you need to know what your decision to be her sponsor again is doing to me. Because I don’t know if it’s something I can live with.

Victoria: Is there anything else that we don’t know?

Victoria: You know, every time that we think that jordan is out of our lives, she proves us wrong. She escaped from prison, she escaped from the hospital, and now somehow she’s cheated death?

Cole: Well, I totally understand your fears. I would feel the same way if I hadn’t seen her myself. My aunt will never harm anyone again.

Billy: Mom, what’s going on? Is– is everything okay?

Jill: I’ve, um, had some issues with my health. You know, little things. You know, like my heart beating too fast and difficulty in breathing. Just some lightheadedness.

Billy: Okay. Well, that’s a little worrisome given your heart attack you had a few years ago.

Jill: Yeah, I felt the same way. So I went to the doctor and, um… and there are some complications, billy.

Billy: Okay. What does that mean exactly?

Jill: I don’t wanna get into it.

Billy: Okay, well, you’re gonna have to give me something, all right? Because you’re telling me that– that you’re not well and I don’t know what to do, so–

Jill: I’m in london now with snapper and he’s overseeing my treatment.

Billy: Okay. Well, that’s good. Um… I mean, is this serious, mom? I just have to take it easy and avoid stress. Honestly, snapper is being as irritating as hell. He’s just hovering over me like a mother hen.

Billy: Okay, well, it sounds like he’s being a good brother. Um, I mean, is this– is there a significant risk here?

Jill: I’m glad you understand the importance. Look out for the company. I need you fully on board.

Billy: I won’t let you down.

Jill: Oh, and let’s be clear. This is not forever. I will be back. And when I am, I expect to find the company stronger than ever with you in charge and mamie gone.

Billy: I got this.

Jill: I’m counting on you.

Billy: Well, just promise me that you’re gonna keep me in the loop, okay? You let me know about your treatment. Okay? You can promise me that, right? And, uh, you need me, you just let me know and I’ll– I’ll come see you.

Jill: Thank you. I’m proud of you, billy. And I love you, my son.

Billy: I love you too, mom. You don’t worry about this place, okay? Because I’m just getting started. You ain’t seen nothing yet.

Sally: I swear, we will work something out. I won’t leave you behind.

Chloe: You’re on your own track. Totally separate from mine. You’ve got adam and a potential job with summer and you don’t need me.

Sally: That is not true.

Cloe: So, um, I guess this partnership is considered over, right? Well, thank you for the opportunity. Um, really, it’s been great. This has been fun.

Sally: Chloe, please!

Chloe: No, really. It’s no hard feelings. Okay, I wish you the best with adam. And, um, I sincerely hope he doesn’t break your heart.

Jack: Look, I realize you’re upset. I’m just telling you this is a non-issue.

Diane: You’re not hearing me, jack. I don’t even understand why this is up for debate. You shouldn’t be nikki’s sponsor. And I would think that the professionals at her rehab would’ve told her that.

Jack: Nikki is free to choose her own sponsor.

Diane: Oh, right. And she chooses you. And– and you feel justified in continuing because your stupid plan worked and no one died this time.

Jack: Do you think I’m choosing nikki over you? That is not what this is.

Diane: What am I supposed to think? When– when you’ve chosen to be her sponsor again, when you know how I feel about it.

Jack: I am torn. I– I do not wanna let you down. But you’re asking me to abandon a lifelong friend. It’s not an obligation I can easily walk away from.

Diane: Jack, I don’t think I can get past this. And I don’t think you realize how serious I am. This is about trust. This is about our relationship. This is about our marriage. And you and I are, we’re looking at things so differently right now in a way that I never, ever expected. And I don’t know how we’re going to survive this.

Cole: Where do you want these?

Victor: Uh, put them there for the time being.

Cole: You sure about this?

Victor: Well, cole, we have no other choice, you know.

Cole: We did the right thing, victor.

Victor: Yeah. All right. Let’s go. We lock this down here.
