Update written by Joseph

In Estonia, Marlena talks to Belle on the phone and says they got a new lead and she can’t go in to much detail but they might be very close to getting her dad back. Belle is glad she has something to go on and asks what she will do in the meantime. Marlena responds that she’s going to take a bath and promises to let her know as soon as she hears any news. Marlena tells Belle that she loves her and hangs up.

Jada goes to the police station and asks Shawn for a file on a case to catch up on. Shawn congratulates Jada on getting reinstated as police commissioner. Jada responds that it feels great to be back. Shawn is sorry for not saying anything sooner and admits he’s been trying to keep his distance because he wasn’t sure how she felt about them working together after what happened. Jada admits it’s a little awkward but decides it shouldn’t be a problem since they were friends before and are friends now. Jada adds that she can’t afford to lose a great detective like him. Shawn states that he doesn’t have a problem if she doesn’t, but then asks what about Rafe. Shawn assumes that she hasn’t told him yet. Jada confirms that she hasn’t and doesn’t intend to.

Rafe sits at home, reading on his tablet about EJ not being likely to be charged despite being accused of numerous felonies. Rafe says they’ll see about that and declares there is no chance in Hell he’s getting away with this.

Jada tells Shawn that Rafe is still recovering from the trauma of EJ and Arnold taking over his life. Shawn says he can’t imagine what they are both going through. Jada says they are rebuilding their life so she feels telling Rafe about them now would be just adding more injury. Shawn says especially now that they know EJ is going to skate on all the charges. Jada says maybe not and reveals that she has one more hail mary idea left. Jada declares that if it works, they could put EJ away for the rest of his life.

EJ sits at home, reading the article about him not being charged and remarks that at least he looks handsome. EJ then grabs his phone and texts Belle that he misses her.

Steve, Andrew, and Paul arrive at the facility and take out all the guards. Paul and Andrew get rid of the final two guards while Steve approaches the main desk and finds a folder that he says looks promising. Steve opens it up and says of course, he should’ve known.

Marlena is shocked by Orpheus appearing in her hotel room!

Andrew and Paul rejoin Steve after stuffing the guards in the closet and taking their guns and keys. Andrew asks if Steve found anything. Steve reveals the folder which shows Orpheus as the mastermind of the whole operation. Andrew asks if Orpheus is here.

Marlena questions how Orpheus got in. Orpheus explains that he stole a waiter’s outfit from room service with a key. Marlena argues that he should be in prison. Orpheus remarks that they haven’t built a prison that can hold him for long. Marlena guesses he escaped again. Orpheus says he can’t waste time rotting in a cell when there’s so many important things to do. Marlena asks if he means creating a nuclear device to sell to the highest bidder. Orpheus says it’s good that she’s up to speed as it will save time. Orpheus declares that it’s time to get her and John out of his way for good.

Jada goes to see Belle, who asks what she can do for her. Jada wants Belle to help her nail EJ once and for all.

EJ checks his phone and complains about Belle not responding to his text. Rafe then emerges from the door to the tunnels.

Shawn joins JJ in the interrogation room and asks about his paper work. JJ tells him that he’s just going over Tate’s statement about Alice’s stolen necklace. Shawn still can’t believe cousin Doug III was the one who stole it and calls it unforgivable. Shawn talks about how Julie was so nice to him. JJ says that’s obviously over now that she knows he betrayed her and kicked him out of the house. Shawn asks if JJ is going to arrest Doug III with Tate’s statement. JJ explains that he’s not sure Julie is going to press charges. Shawn understands it must be hard to have Doug’s grandson arrested and remarks that it would be another crook in Salem getting away. JJ guesses he’s talking about EJ and notes that Gabi is furious about that too after what EJ did to their family. Shawn hopes it’s not over yet because it sounds like Jada has a plan.

Belle tells Jada that she’s not surprised that EJ is her first case back on the job. Jada says she’s not the only one who wants to see EJ pay for his crimes. Belle believes the whole town wants that. Jada asks Belle if she will help her. Belle responds that she can’t because she had to recuse herself from any cases involving EJ. Jada comments on that being because of her personal relationship with him. Belle remarks on Jada knowing all about that. Jada apologizes for Paulina finding out about that and telling Gabi in the first place. Jada blames being frustrated on everything EJ did to her and Rafe. Belle understands and doesn’t blame her, but says she still can’t help her with the case. Jada knows Belle can’t prosecute EJ, but she hoped that Belle could help them get EJ in a different way, by wearing a wire.

Rafe hides in the doorway to the tunnels until EJ leaves the room. Rafe then emerges from the tunnels to plant a bugging device in the room.

Andrew questions Orpheus being behind all of this when he thought he was locked up. Steve responds that he was until he wasn’t. Paul guesses they shouldn’t be surprised and wonders if that’s why John was brought in to this. Steve states that nobody knows how Orpheus works better than John. Paul asks if Orpheus was involved in John disappearing. Steve is not sure he has disappeared and reveals that according to the files, there’s mention of an agent infiltrating the place while dressed as a scientist and bets that it was John. Paul guesses John traced Orpheus to this location and wants to go find John to help put Orpheus back in prison. Steve stops Paul and says they are not all going.

Marlena realizes that John is in Estonia because he was tracking Orpheus. Orpheus says he should’ve expected that from the ISA but adds that he managed to stay on step ahead of John. Marlena asks if he knows where John is. Orpheus confirms that he does and adds that John did manage to infiltrate his top secret facility by posing as a scientist, but he caught on soon enough. Marlena asks what he’s done to her husband and where John is. Orpheus responds that her concern for her husband has always been very touching and mocks their eternal devotion. Orpheus warns Marlena to worry less about John and more about herself as he pulls a gun on her.

Shawn tells JJ to let him know if he needs any help. JJ stops Shawn and says he understands if it’s none of his business and he doesn’t want to discuss it, but he’s been concerned since he told him about he and Jada. Shawn appreciates his concern and acknowledges that he did confide in him. Shawn confirms that he and Jada spoke briefly and reveals that Jada doesn’t plan to tell Rafe which he guesses makes things less messy. JJ asks Shawn if he’s going to be able to live with that secret.

Belle questions Jada wanting her to go undercover to bust EJ. Jada asks her to at least consider it to get him to incriminate himself. Belle asks how she’s even supposed to get close to EJ when she doesn’t have a relationship with him anymore as she ended it. Jada suggests it’s possible that EJ still has feelings for her and asks if he would believe Belle changed her mind about ending it. Belle guesses it’s possible. Jada calls Belle a world class litigator and an expert at getting people to tell on themselves and she knows she believes in justice. Jada argues that EJ stole Rafe’s life, destroyed her wedding, and engineered Ava’s kidnapping. Jada knows Belle doesn’t want to see EJ get away with that, unless she doesn’t want to see EJ go to prison.

Rafe plants the bugging device on a statue in the living room of the DiMera Mansion and looks back at the portrait of Stefano, asking if he’s upset that he’s going after his son. Rafe declares that now all they have to do is sit back and watch EJ incriminate himself. Rafe goes to leave but EJ returns and asks what the hell he is up to.

Paul questions Steve saying he can’t come with him to find his dad. Steve clarifies that he’s not talking about Paul. Andrew argues that he’s an ISA agent. Steve says that’s exactly why he can’t come because this is an unauthorized mission, so if he came along, he could be jeopardizing his future with the agency. Andrew says he’s not worried about that. Steve says he will worry for both of them and he knows Shane doesn’t play favorites. Andrew questions him expecting him to just sit on the sidelines. Steve feels the further away he gets, the better. Andrew argues that it doesn’t help John and that Paul can’t be on board with this. Paul tells Andrew that he loves him for wanting to help but he doesn’t want him to jeopardize his career. Steve adds that just because Andrew isn’t there, doesn’t mean they can’t use his help which Andrew questions. Steve asks Andrew to go back to the hotel to check on Marlena and tell her what’s going on. Andrew complains about being made the messenger when he’s the only reason they know about this place. Steve argues that he’ll be thanking him if the whole operation goes sideways while Paul assures they will be fine. Steve knows John would want it this way too. Paul knows Andrew wants to be by his side, but agrees with Steve and says if they do get in trouble, they will need Andrew to get them out of it. Steve says they all have each other. Andrew worries that they know how dangerous Orpheus is. Steve points out that they don’t even know if he’s here.

Marlena asks if Orpheus broke in to her room to shoot her in cold blood. Orpheus responds that considering the delicate situation, he can’t have her interfering. Marlena questions how delicate it is. Orpheus says that’s hardly her concern. Marlena think she’s entitled to know if she’s going to die for it. Orpheus responds that she got in his way one too many times, complaining that she and John have been thorns in his side for decades while now he finally has the chance to free himself from her interference. Orpheus goes to shoot her but Marlena grabs her travel bag and hits him to knock the gun away.

Shawn tells JJ that he doesn’t love keeping it from Rafe but points out that Jada didn’t even know she would be cheating on Rafe as she thought he was the one who left her first. JJ assures that he’s not judging them. Shawn appreciates his concern but says the whole situation sucks and Jada doesn’t deserve any of this. Shawn talks about Jada being strong and deserving to be happy which is all he wants for her. JJ then asks if Shawn has feelings for Jada.

Belle tells Jada that she does want EJ to go to prison for everything he did. Jada assumes that Belle won’t just stand around and let him get away with hurting the people she loves then. Belle agrees to wear the wire and do whatever it takes to put EJ behind bars.

Rafe tells EJ that he came to see Johnny and asks if he’s around. EJ says no, so Rafe asks when he will be back. EJ says he couldn’t say. Rafe brings up Johnny not speaking to EJ anymore as he knows he found out what EJ did to Sami. EJ calls that none of his business. Rafe talks about how hard it must be for Johnny since he knows how hard EJ fought to keep that from him, but now Johnny knows what kind of monster he is. Rafe decides he’ll just text Johnny to ask when he’s coming home. EJ tells him not to bother since Johnny moved out. Rafe remarks that even if EJ isn’t being prosecuted, it looks like he’s still suffering the consequences since he lost his son and he’s pretty sure he lost Belle all because his fragile ego couldn’t handle losing the district attorney job. Rafe suggests EJ make an appointment with Marlena so he can get all his secrets off his chest.

Paul and Steve agree to split up in search of John and then meet in the middle. Steve instructs Paul to check every room and assures that if John is there, they will find him. Steve reminds Paul to be careful as they head out.

Andrew goes to Marlena’s room. She answers the door and asks if everything is alright. Andrew responds that he hopes so as they found out who is behind all of this. Marlena reveals she did too as she brings Andrew inside to find Clyde tied up and unconscious, shocking Andrew.

Shawn tells JJ that he and Jada are just friends and that she’s in love with Rafe. JJ says he knows but questions the way is he talking about her. Jada then enters the room with Belle and says she hopes they aren’t interrupting. Shawn says not at all and asks what’s going on. Jada reminds him of her having an idea to bring EJ down and reveals that Belle has agreed to wear a wire. Belle says she will try to get a confession out of EJ and assures that her relationship with EJ is over or she wouldn’t be involved. Shawn says he’s glad to hear that while JJ adds she’s doing a good thing. Belle calls it the right thing. Shawn thinks JJ should handle the paper work on this one as he has a few cases to handle. Shawn wishes Belle luck and says she will be great as he then exits the room.

EJ asks Rafe why he would share any information with you. Rafe guesses the guilt of what he’s done isn’t eating him up like it would most people. EJ responds that he has nothing to feel guilty about, nothing to confess, and he has no idea what he’s rambling about so it appears their business is complete. Rafe tells him to have a great day then and exits.

Andrew asks Marlena how this happened. Marlena explains that Orpheus came in, pulled a gun on her, and she subdued him. Marlena asks if they’ve found John. Andrew says not yet, but they are hopeful as Steve and Paul are searching the facility which means he needs to transport Orpheus to the ISA. Marlena declares she’s going to the facility then. Andrew doesn’t think that’s a good idea but Marlena says she has to help. Andrew warns that it’s not safe. Marlena points out that staying here wasn’t safe either. Andrew says he can’t let her go. Marlena responds that he can’t do anything since he has to stay and make sure Orpheus doesn’t escape. Andrew argues that he can arrest her but Marlena says he knows that she needs to go find John, like John would do for her or Andrew would do for Paul. Marlena asks Andrew how to get to the facility.

Steve finds a door that the key card isn’t working on and then hears gunshots from inside.

Shawn returns to Jada in the interrogation room. Jada informs him that JJ finished wiring up Belle, so she is at the DiMera Mansion as they speak and JJ is in a van across the street. Jada hopes Belle can get EJ to talk as this might be their last chance to get something on him.

Belle shows up at the DiMera Mansion and tells EJ that she got his text and she misses him too.

Jada asks Shawn if everything is okay as he seems a little quiet. Shawn knows the timing is weird, but he feels like he needs to tell her that JJ knows about what happened as he figured out and he couldn’t lie to him. Shawn assures that nothing will happen as JJ is his partner and he knows he can trust him. Jada responds that she trusts JJ too, but their little secret is not so secret as Stephanie knows and now JJ knows too. Jada doesn’t want Rafe to find out from anyone else. Shawn insists that no one will tell him but Jada brings up that secrets have a way of getting out in Salem. Jada declares that she needs to tell Rafe, herself. Shawn asks if she’s sure about this. Jada responds that it would kill her if he found out some other way. Shawn tells her that he supports whatever decision she makes. Rafe then enters the room and greets them. Jada says she was just about to call him. Rafe asks if everything is alright. Jada asks Shawn to give them the room, so he exits. Jada then tells Rafe there is something she needs to talk to him about.

Andrew calls in for transportation as he has Orpheus in custody. Andrew then turns around and Orpheus has suddenly disappeared.

Steve breaks in to the room at the facility and shoots a man who has seemingly just shot John. Marlena then comes in behind Steve and is shocked by what she sees.

THIS STILL NEEDS SOME EDITING!

Sorry to keep everybody waiting. Had to check on some things at home. Yeah, it’s, uh, getting late. This won’t take long. So, you want to drop the case? When did you decide this? We discussed it in the car. And when you were talking to Tomas before, we– We considered what a sexual harassment lawsuit would cost us. But with the contingency– We could lose more than money. Thank you for your help. Sorry for wasting your time. How much did he offer you to settle? How did you know? The same way I know my father didn’t mention an amount, or detail the scope-of the settlement.

He played us. That’s what he does. And why you’re damn lucky I’m still your lawyer. You look like a man handling the weight of the world. Mm, never when you’re around. Come here. That’s the medicine I need. So, how did tennis go? We’re talking about you. Now, does this mood have something to do with Naomi? Well, there might be a little movement there. She’s dropping the lawsuit? Hmm. Guess my intervention made a difference. Something you need to tell me? A former bestie and I ran into each other, and we… talked.

Bill: Uh-huh.

Uh-huh. And you both emerged unscathed? [chuckles] I’m impressed. Well, I told her she didn’t have a chance at winning against you. You take no prisoners, et cetera. Yeah, well, thank you, sweetheart. But listen, I’m gonna need you to stay out of this, okay? And steer clear of Naomi until the… until the climate changes. I don’t want you to get hurt. Again. It’s too late for that warning. What happened? Don’t get upset. Look, I wasn’t even gonna bring it up, Bill. Tell me, Hayley. I was supposed to play doubles this morning, and when I got to the club, I discovered I’d been replaced. Wha– By whom? Why did they give up your spot? They said they were Team Dani. [door closes] I came back to apologize. For telling me to back off and stay out of your life so I don’t make a mess of yours like I did with my own? That second part never came out of my mouth. I may have paraphrased. A little. Mom, this design company, these purses, that’s something I need to do on my own.

With Kat.

Well, that’s different. Kat’s my partner, not my manager. There has to be something I can do. Let me do my thing. Remember? You got to do you, now I get to do me? Just give me that chance. Please? You’re looking pretty down, bro. Bad news? Read it and weep, because if you laugh,

so help me…

[laughs] All right, look, as a cat lover, I gotta say good job, bro. I’m proud of you. But as your best friend, you gotta work on that smile, man. I mean, come on. Really? [chuckles]

Shanice: Everybody said I was wasting my time going to that performing arts high school. But let me tell you something. Guess who’s gonna be the superstar of that hospital documentary? That’s right, me. You know why people love Shanice? Because no matter what madness is going on, I still show up with my charming attitude, ready to brighten up somebody’s day. Yeah, that’s been my secret weapon. You know, I see things that make most people want to faint and I do it smiling. It’s my, uh, sweet bedside manner that sets me apart from the rest. [laughs] No, I’m serious. Those acting classes, they came in handy. Just when you least expect it. And when Mr. Jet Setter decides to point his little camera my way, I’m-a be ready for him. Why are you avoiding me? And don’t avoid the question. I’m not. Avoiding you or the question. I’ve just been swamped with this new project. Yeah, scheduling interviews and photo shoots for every new nurse in this hospital except me? Look, I know what this is about, and even though I’m past it, you’re not. You got to stop avoiding me because you almost kissed me the other day. That was a misunderstanding and a mistake all wrapped together. And then we discussed the whole awkward mess and decided it’s not gonna happen again.

It won’t.

Good. So stop ghosting me. What are we, like, five? Talk to me. I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse picture. Wasn’t he a world-famous photographer once? You should see the ones he took of Ashley. Were they good? Made her look like a goddess, but I’m biased. Wait, why is he taking pictures of Ash? That baby delivering thing they did together. And now they’re bonded for life. Well, it’s not that deep. Well, I mean, they do say the camera captures the world the way the photographer sees it. Deep, but like, not really. Think about it, Andre’s got you looking like a troll, while Ashley’s this life-giving princess. So, what, you think he’s interested in my girl? That’s what you thought when I offered my advice? “Mom’s going to monopolize”? Well, it’s automatic for you to run things,

and I need–

Distance, the opportunity to explore new things. It’s not me, it’s you. Yeah, Chelsea, I’ve heard it all before. And I may have missed my calling. I am both psychiatrist and client with a breakthrough diagnoses. Not following, Mom. What if, subconsciously, I felt that you were dumping me the same way your father did? Brutally, heartlessly, completely blindsiding. I was afraid you’d feel that way. I didn’t think I did. Until you “dumped me” for Kat. The same way Bill exchanged me for a… younger, blander version. I am so sorry that I hurt you. Oh, baby. Don’t you dare blame yourself for wanting to fly. You didn’t wrong me. You, my brave girl… …are helping to set me free. I’ll always be on your side, Mom. “Team Dani”? What kind of nonsense– You know what? All the… playing favorites, canceling reservations. I didn’t raise hell when they ignored you in the dining room, but they’re definitely going to hear from me now. Bill, no. Look. One phone call. Gabe Froman. The president of the country club? That will only make the situation worse.

I know you want to help, but–

I hate seeing them treat you this way, baby.

I…

I will grow a thicker skin. No, no. Hey, hey, hey. You bite your tongue, you hear me? I wish everybody would see you the way that I do. They would adore you, worship you. I’ll happily settle for lunch. Mm. I wish I could, but… my work is getting all piled up because I’ve been so distracted lately. I wonder why.

Hmm.

[chuckles] Sorry, not sorry. Dinner later? If I can have you for dessert. Mm. It’s a date. Yeah. We’ll have champagne to celebrate the death of Naomi’s lawsuit. Well, okay. That’s close, not final. But it will be.

You’re the best, Bill.

Mm. NAOMI: If you settle, do you think my father will forgive and forget? No. What little money he’ll dole out won’t last, and you’ll still be jobless, with your names dragged through the mud. The only way to change all of that is to win. Winning is not a given. Well, it better be, because it is your only way out. The question you need to keep asking, the one you asked that convinced me to take this case, is what happens to the rest of the women that will join that firm and have to work with Mike Davis? Those young women will think they made a giant step forward toward a great future by landing a job with Bill Hamilton, Esquire, only to be treated like meat by some jerk at work. You convinced me that we have to be loud and win for them, and the three of you. Now, my father set up that shell game today because this suit has merit, and he knows it. What happened to you is a crime. Mike Davis is a predator. Firing you because you dared to report him is illegal. Those are the facts that will win this case. Now, if you want to drop the suit, I can’t stop you. But if you want to fight… oh, I will be relentless, unstoppable, and I will not give up until we win. Are you with me? Now, where do I sign up for Dr. Nicole’s life? With my personal assistant planning a fabulous anniversary party for me. Yeah. See, Laura would’ve had her hands full, but she still laid up in the bed after that freak accident. No, the girl I’m talking about is the new girl. Eva Thomas. Yeah, she’s nice enough. Ooh, something may be happening. Let me call you back. ASHLEY: You’ll do great on this video project, and whether you want me in it or not, it’s okay. Just stop being weird. We’re buds, me and you. And Derek, my boyfriend? You don’t have to tell me twice. Good. So… we’re good? Yeah, never better. Buds. All right, look, if Naomi’s sort-of cousin keeps taking pretty pictures of your girl, I got your back. Take him down a notch.

Yeah?

Yeah. We’re first responders, he’s a photographer.

It’s not a fair fight.

That’s true. That’s true. All right, well, we’ll, um, we’ll criticize his pictures, right? We’ll tell him his lighting is weak, and we’ll threaten to break his f-stop. [laughs] Thanks, but he’s leaving town any minute, and even if Andre did have a thing for my girl, tough luck. She’s way into me. Yeah, well, you sure as hell don’t deserve her. And you’re punching way above your weight with Naomi. Yeah, don’t I know it. We definitely hit a rough patch back when I arrested her mom for going off at Bill’s wedding. But Naomi knew it was out of my hands once Bill wanted to press charges, so… It’s amazing how one person can create so much chaos. That guy, right? It’s like even when he wins, it’s never enough. Bill Hamilton can’t let anything go. Gabe. [laughs] Hey, man. That’s right. None other, my brother. How’s it going at the club? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Look, that’s interesting, but listen, what I want to talk to you about is someone near and dear to my heart, okay?

I’m having some…

[door opens] Hey, Gabe, let me call you back, okay? All right. Well, this is a surprise. Thought I wouldn’t come back after you tried to intimidate my clients? Ah, come on, it was just idle conversation about the consequences of sexual harassment lawsuits, okay? I was just sharing my decades of experience with the younger generation.

You were tampering with them.

I was just giving ’em food for thought. They told me they want to drop the suit. Oh. Well, hey, what can I say? You win some, you lose some. [chuckles] Oh. You thought you won? Mm-mm. Game’s still on, Dad. That round went to me. Now these women aren’t just doing this for themselves. They’re suing you for the good of people everywhere. Ugh, I love when it gets righteous, don’t you? Julia! Would you please ask Jonathan to use his inside voice? Thank you. Now, I fully understand the frustration, but dropping out of the fashion show was my daughter’s decision. Of course. I have contacts all around the world. I will find someone to fill Chelsea’s shoes. [laughs] Someone with the energy and popularity of my beautiful girl? Not bloody likely. Jonathan, I joke. Please, trust me. I will find someone to replace Chelsea. This is just a little bump in the road, okay? Okay. Bye-bye. [chuckles] [hisses] [groans] [sighs] Just a little one. I spelled it all out. This is our company and we’re going at it alone, without my momager. How do you think she took it, Kat? I hurt her. [sighs] Yes, I know it’s not my fault, but she’s sad. She had the perfect life. I mean, we all did, before that husband-stealing, home-wrecking step-monster of mine came along. See? That right there, that was awkward, right? Awkward is a two-lane street, my friend. Boundaries. Recognize them, use them. Nothing has changed. Then stop being weird. I’m glad we’re on the same page. Yep. [sighs] I’ll let you know about that photo shoot,

but…

Whatever. But… [chuckles]

[both clear throats]

Yeah. I hope that interview was PG, because the looks you two were giving each other?

I don’t know what you mean.

[scoffs] Let me, uh, let me put it in nurse talk. It’s too late for a vaccine against Andre’s charms. Symptoms are already there and you’ve got it bad. [sighs] How long’s that guy been there?

You know him?

Yeah, it’s my partner. Oh, that’s the legendary Marcel Malone. How’s the honeymoon going for you kids? He giving you a hard time? He was, until yesterday when he did a full 180. Went all Pollyanna. Sweet and helpful. Seriously? That guy? Hold that thought. What’s a bum like you doing in a joint like this? Rookie. What’s up? I figured it out. You’ll have to narrow that down. Your attitude shift. My father put you up to it, didn’t he? Be honest. He told you to be nice to the new kid. I know how you operate. You push and you push until you get your way. Just like the way you sent Hayley to yabber at me and threatening to bankrupt me. Nice work, Dad. You know, it’s enlightening to find out how foolish and inept you think I am. Oh, hey, hey, hey. Come on, now. Naomi, you know that that is not true. And I didn’t send Hayley after you. Then tell her to cease and desist, and encourage her to tackle her own challenges. I’m sure it’s not easy being the outcast of Marigold Road. Okay, look, I’ll handle the situation at the club. [scoffs] You think you’re magic. That was just Mom’s light shining on you. You know that. People love her, and they hate what you did to her, and nothing will ever change that. When Dani Dupree has people in the palm of her hand, it’s usually where they tend to stay. I’ll be in touch. Want something, Hayley? Mind if I sit? Oh, I’d rather you didn’t. Shouldn’t you be at the country club? That’s why you married up, right? So you could experience the finer things in life?

I married for love.

[scoffs] Child, please. And because of it, I’ve incurred the wrath of everyone in this community.

Well, maybe you should move.

[sighs] You’ve made your bed.

And I’m lying in it?

Yeah, you know, that’s your specialty. Lying and making yourself comfortable in other people’s beds. You lied to my sister and pretended to be her friend to cozy up to my dad– gross– you lied to my mother, pretending that you could be trusted. I mean, do you have… do you have any idea how much pain you’ve caused? So, “homewrecking husband-stealer” was actually pretty tame. You know what’s fascinating? How no one ever talks about the pain Dani’s caused me. [scoffs] [phone buzzing] You are the last person I expected to hear from. Is this a good time? Depends why you’re calling. Well… [sighs] I don’t want to discuss it over the phone. Is it okay if I stop by? I’m free now. That sounds like such a bad idea. Never stopped you before. I won’t stay long. Fine. Okay. I’ll see you in a few. Whatever’s going on with you and Andre… It’s dangerous to make assumptions. That’s one of the first things you taught me when I started here. I got years of experience. I usually know what I’m looking at. Andre and I were just discussing his video project featuring the new nurses.

That’s all.

Oh. Well, I’m glad he’s so hands-on. But when you’re, uh, done with the firefighter, point him in my direction. Shanice will help heal that broken heart. [laughs] There he is, a hero among men.

Andre.

What’s up? Uh… [chuckles] A rough-and-tumble smoke eater, risking his life to save a cat. You enjoying your 15 minutes of fame? I’ll fight a four-alarm fire before I ever pose for a picture again. I mean, you guys do work hard. But listen, in my new gig, I want to highlight those selfless and dedicated people who save lives day and night. Who you focusing on this time? Uh, the nurses, at Garland Memorial Hospital. I know how my father operates. He pulls rank. Chief Hawthorne has more important things to do than ask me to babysit. Good, ’cause I didn’t join the force to be coddled. I can take care of myself. You’re on your own. I won’t make that mistake again. You destroyed my family and wrecked my parents’ marriage, and you’re whining about the pain my mother caused you? I shouldn’t have brought it up. But you did. So go ahead, list all the complaints against the woman whose life you cannibalized.

I knew this was a mistake.

Oh, but you keep making them. [scoffs] For the fake waterworks. Did I cry when Dani hit me in the face at the club days before my wedding? You were there. Did you see me shed a tear from the pain and embarrassment I still feel? Never raised a fuss when she shot up my wedding.

She was forced to be there.

Ugh! It was a brutal day for her. You’re trying to justify her behavior? She’s my mother, and if you had one… [sighs] That didn’t come out right, okay? I wasn’t thinking straight. And neither was she. When we feel attacked, we clap back with things that hit hard. But she’s improving.

She’s past all that now.

[laughs softly] Did Dani tell you that? Was that before she broke into our house, destroyed a wedding photo and stole a costly bottle of wine? Or you know what? Maybe it was after she shattered a photo of Bill and me in his office. You didn’t hear that part of the “improvement,” now, did you? I’ve been busy. Oh. So has she. And as you rudely reminded me, yes, I didn’t grow up with my mother. But if I had, I’d know when she’s struggling, and I’d get her some help. You and my father did this to her. And now she’s out of control, Chelsea. Do you see that? What if this escalates? What if someone seriously gets hurt? Come on in. I would say make yourself at home, but… What’s wrong? Nothing, it’s just, nothing’s changed. It’s still the same.

If it ain’t broke…

Yeah. [chuckles] I remember when you chose this sofa. I was appalled. Pink? But it works. And it’s lasted.

Yeah. Mm.

Everything has. Remember when we were decorating? This was just an empty space. We were up to our eyeballs in paint chips and fabric samples. Yeah. Parisian Adventure and Dusky Dream. We went with the Adventure. Mm-hmm, because you insisted.

Who wants a dusky dream?

Yeah.

Uh, you mind if I…

Oh, help yourself. Yeah. [clears throat] What about you? Can I make you anything? You want to be treated like the big boys? Let’s go. Hey, relax. It was just a question, all right?

Take it easy.

Sorry I’m late. No, you’re right on time, babe. Detective Marcel Malone, my wife Naomi.

Hi. I’ve heard so much.

Pleasure. Have a good night. Something I said? Nah. He gets like that. Huh. Where’s Derek? Oh, looks like he found a friend. Well, that still remains to be seen. DEREK: It’s nice that Ashley will be a star, but… I just hope it doesn’t interfere with her work. She takes her responsibility seriously. Yeah, I saw that firsthand when she delivered that baby. You did your part. I handed her a towel. [chuckles] And that was a miracle I managed that. I mean, you? The real deal. Defy death every day. I want to know about it. If you have a minute, I can get us a round. Huh?

Bill: Okay. Uh… ice cold with a twist, just a little dirty? [laughs softly] Sparkling water. Something tells me I’m gonna need it. Mm-hmm. You know, we have a buyer for the Rehoboth house. Already? Well, don’t-don’t sound so disappointed. We rarely got a chance to get up there as it was in the end. I was hoping to have another summer with the girls, but…

there’s always the vineyard.

Mm-hmm. Any idea where the deed might be? Yeah, I kept it with some of the other Delaware things. [sighs] A photo album? You organize your way… [chuckles]

Oh.

Mm. [chuckles] Mm-mm. Look at these two striking individuals. [both laugh] Wow. So young.

The day we closed on the beach house.

Mm-hmm. Yeah, feels like yesterday. All the landscaping you did. We put so much work and love into that house.

Yeah.

I hope whoever buys it adores it as much as we did.

I miss that place.

Yeah. We had a lot of good times there.

Most of them good.

Mm-hmm.

Mm, mm, mm.

This day.

Yeah.

Remember that? Yeah. Wow. How could I ever forget it? It’s crazy, it was the most beautiful morning, bluest sky, your folks had just arrived, the girls were on the beach playing around.

I was gonna grill up all that Kobe beef.

Yeah. Naomi and Chelsea ran into the water, and that storm swept in out of nowhere. I know, the lightning, all that hail. I’d never seen anything like that. I just knew we were gonna have a tornado. But the way you flew across that beach, scooped up your babies and got them back to safety? I had never seen anything like that. It was like, it was like you were running on air, and nothing could stop you from protecting your girls. You put one under each arm, got back just as fast, and they weren’t even scared. Yeah, both of them were laughing. Yeah, well, I couldn’t have them scared like that. I told them I was racing to see who was faster, me or the wind.

[both chuckle]

Wow. Yeah. Bad storm, that one.

Mm-hmm.

It almost took down that cherry tree, but the house… it was still standing.

Well, she had good bones.

Mm-hmm. Yeah, we had some good times up at that place. Hmm. You know what I like most about looking at these? Your waistline? [laughs softly] No. No, these were all taken… [sighs] …they were taken before my babies hated me. They don’t hate you, Bill. Naomi and Chelsea are deeply… gravely disappointed in what you did. But there is a difference. I appreciate you pointing that out, because… this feels retaliatory. What? Is something going on? You know Naomi’s suing my firm, right? She didn’t tell you?

What you do?

I… Nothing. [sighs] Three former employees are bringing a harassment suit against one of my partners, and Naomi’s representing them. Oh, Bill. [scoffs] You’re smiling. No, no, no, sorry. [clears throat]

It is wrong to laugh, so I’m gonna try that one more time.

Ah. Okay.

Okay, Go ahead.

I am– Bill, I am so sorry

that our daughter… [laughs]

That’s… Okay. No, no, no. Go ahead. Be honest. Go ahead. Go. [laughs] I’m very proud of my daughter for taking you on. Yeah, well, of course you are. Because she’s Team Dani like everyone else. Who is “everyone else”? And why does that sound so accusatory? I can’t control my mother. But you can control the way you treat your father. You and Naomi. If you’re telling me to convince her to drop that lawsuit… Oh, that suit is dead in the water. All I want is for you to do what’s right. Yes, your world changed the minute I walked into it. But Bill is that same stubborn, single-minded man he’s always been. His love for you and your sister is unshakable. Do you know how fortunate you are to have that? Huh? He loves you girls. And this would be the biggest loss of his life. [scoffs] And you know how much he hates to lose. Look… he needs you, Chelsea. You don’t owe me anything, but I hope you find a way to forgive him. Somebody’s early.

By a whole eight minutes.

[both chuckle]

How was work?

[sighs] Exhausting. You have a good time with Jacob? Yeah. Turned into a twofer. Ran into Andre.

Yeah?

Yeah, I gave him hell for that picture and… he filled me in on his documentary. Oh, it’s a publicity thing for the hospital. It sounds fun. Since he’s sticking around a while, I almost took him up on his offer to buy me beer. Why’d you turn him down? Because I invited him for dinner instead. Oh, my gosh, Andre, this video is incredible. It’s amazing. You’re amazing. Andre.

Were you about to kiss me?

[exhales] What’d you do? What do you mean? You’ve been standing there, posting at that phone like it owes you money. What’d you do? Are you trying to figure out how to apologize for what you did without it sounding like an apology? You’re only half right. I’m trying to apologize for something that I don’t want to do. But… hey, I should go. I only came back because I left my documentary gear in my uncle’s office. Then I realized I forgot that I didn’t even ask him for the key. Don’t worry about it, handsome. I’ll call security and vouch for you and let them know you’re my special guest. But you’ll owe me. Maybe a smile or two will cover it. [chuckles] Oh, thanks, Shanice. It’s okay. I’ll just leave it here for tonight. I’m sure the equipment is safe where it is. Plus, I’m running kind of late. A-Are you okay? You look a little discombobulated. Do you need me to, um, take your temperature? [laughs softly] Thanks, but I’m sure I’ll survive this. [chuckles] You don’t sound too sure about that. Yo, what is the problem? Okay, look, if I tell you, do you promise to keep it to yourself? If it’s a medical issue, I’m bound by HIPAA, and I don’t play with that, so… It’s personal. Oh. Well, in that case, if it’s boring, I won’t tell a soul, but if it’s juicy, I’ll change the name.

[laughs]

I can’t risk it. O-Okay, what if I can help? Okay, okay. I won’t tell a soul, Scout’s honor. So, what’s got your brain doing backflips? I got to go to this thing, and I never should have said I’d go, but I did, and now I can’t get out of it. Okay, when were you invited? Uh, less than an hour ago.

So, since it’s last-minute…

Uh-uh, you still have to go. So help me out. I mean, what would you do, Shanice? Show up on time, laugh at all of their jokes…

Uh-huh.

…then boom, the phone rings, it’s an emergency, you got to go. I’m a photographer.

Uh-uh, stay with me.

Okay. The phone rings, you have to take it. You have to go. “Oh, I have to leave, it’s been great, we’ll have to do this again sometime.” No long goodbyes, just leave. Elegant. Okay. Y-You must have done this once or twice. [laughs] I call it the, uh, Shanice Farewell. All right. You know what? You might be onto something. [chuckles] I’m a nurse. We’re never wrong. Oh, and if there’s a woman involved, don’t forget the flowers. Ah. Gotcha. Mm, mm, mm. My, uh, father got my three clients to drop their suit, but I got them to change their minds. So it’s back on again. You don’t look like that’s good news. I was so determined to get those women to reconsider. God, you should have seen me, on fire. So, what’s the problem? Was I acting in their best interests or mine? Hmm. You’ve got some nerve thinking I’m gonna help you fix what you broke. My toxic trait. I want everything to work out in the end. Well, what happens between me and my father is none of your affair.

See what I did there?

Mm-hmm. But you’ll at least think about making baby steps towards reconciling? Oh, my God. Can you just take a hint and stay out of it? Can I get an answer? Fine. I’ll think about it. Whatever. Please explain “Team Dani.” [chuckles] Mm. Oh. [chuckles]: Oh, oh, oh… Look at that. Look at that. Oof. I can’t believe that I almost forgot about this one. Chanel bathing suit. Oh, well, you’re looking at the suit. Might I direct your attention to the woman in the suit? Mm. Mother of two adorable girls and still turning every head from Rehoboth to Bethany Beach.

Bill, stop.

No, come on, you know I’m not lying. Every man out there tripping over himself just to check you out. And I’m thinking, “Take a good look, fellas, but she’s coming home with me.” Look, you can see it right there. I was just glowing with pride.

You call it that.

Mm-hmm. I call it sunburn. That’s not the way I choose to remember it. You don’t remember the girls were so excited to run out into the yard and break off that aloe plant

so they could take away the hurt?

Mm, mm-hmm. [chuckles] Yeah. It was a good night. It was a good night. You know? You know, bathed them, fed them, read them to sleep. And then it was dinner for two.

Linguine and clams.

Mm-hmm. You remember that little seafood store

right down the road?

Yeah. Man, they had the freshest seafood. Wow. And if I recall, there was an ice-cold Chenin blanc. From that incredible neighborhood liquor store.

Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

I miss that place. And the lights were low, and the candles glowing. Usher on the stereo. Sisqó. Uh, wait… couldn’t– no.

Are you sure?

Uh, definitely Sisqó.

Huh.

Mm-hmm. I guess you’re right. But I always liked that one song of his. It’s, um…

What was it, what was the name of it?

I’m not sure. It-it… it was the one where the-the guy literally had everything he needed, but without the girl,

his life was… “Incomplete.”

Oh. “Incomplete.”

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[tense music]

Everything all right?

Why don’t you have a seat? There’s something I need to tell you.

OK. What is it?

God, this is so hard.

OK. You know you can tell me anything, right?

I’m not so sure you’ll agree once you hear this. I slept with another man. [dramatic music]

This is a pleasant surprise. Unexpected, obviously.

I’m not keeping you from other plans, am I?

None. So what spurred on this impromptu visit?

Well, I know that you can’t prosecute him, but I was hoping that you could help us get him in a different way.

How?

By wearing a wire.

Like I said, I missed you.

Then by all means, come in. [tense music]

Well? May I come in?

Oh, that depends. Is this about Rachel?

Uh, no, no, she’s fine. She’s got the whole staff looking after her every need. No, I came to see how you were holding up. Any news about your father?

Do you care?

Brady, you know I do. [dramatic music]

[gunshot]

[gunshot]

Oh, my God. Is it John?

Yes, this is Agent Andrew Donovan, badge number JX9692. I have Milo Harp in custody. Requesting immediate armed transport to the Estonian field office. I’m currently in the Hotel Tallinn, room 512, on the alley side of the hotel. Tell the team to enter through the loading dock. They can use the back stairs. They’ll have unimpeded access to the room. Thank you. I’ll await their arrival. [phone beeps] OK, Orpheus, your days of– What?

Hold it. Hold it. You wouldn’t want to invite someone else to this party, would you?

Oh, my God. Is it John?

Marlena, wait. Answer me. Is that my husband? [tense music]

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

So pick your poison. What can I fix you?

I’ll have whatever you’re having.

Strega is an acquired taste.

I can handle it.

[chuckles] I have no doubt. [clears throat]

Mm. Hardly more intense than Yellow Chartreuse.

No, I think you’re giving those monks far too much credit. Salut! [glasses clinking] So what changed?

I beg your pardon?

Well, the last time we were together, you were very upset with me. Accused me of trying to seduce you so you would drop the charges.

I remember. I also remember I made quite a scene.

[chuckles]

I have been thinking about how emotional I was that night. Irrational, really. And I think that my behavior was really more about all of the sad and very difficult things going on in my life recently than it was about you. And I regret that I didn’t realize that at the time. And I was on edge, and I wasn’t thinking clearly. And so I jumped to conclusions.

About my intentions?

About a lot of things.

Whatever you may think of me, Belle, I wasn’t lying about my feelings for you. We make each other very happy.

I know.

I would never hurt you.

I know that. But it’s not that simple.

Why can’t it be?

Because you’ve hurt so many people that I care about. And I can get past that. I can–I can forgive all of those things because you were transparent with me about that. What I can’t forgive is dishonesty. So if we’re going to move forward, I just need you to be straight with me.

About what exactly?

I need you to admit what you did to Jada and Rafe.

You slept with another man?

I’m so sorry, Rafe.

I–I don’t understand. How did this happen? Why? Oh, my God. If Feniger laid a finger on you, I swear–

No, no, he never touched me, Rafe.

OK, then. I don’t understand.

It was–it was when you were gone. I thought it was you that left me at the altar. I was told that you slept with a stripper. I was hurt, and it just happened.

Who was it?

It doesn’t matter who it was.

Well, it matters to me.

He’s not the one to blame, Rafe. It’s EJ. EJ is.

So obviously, it wasn’t just some random guy at a bar, or you would have told me. So was it one of your friends? One of mine?

It was Shawn. I slept with Shawn. [dramatic music]

It’s a shame, really, how diminished the ISA has become. Turning your back on a master criminal. Who trained you?

A team of agents is about to storm through that door. Tell me how diminished you think we are then.

Well, gosh, we don’t want that. So here’s what you’re going to do. You’re going to take your phone, make another call. Tell them I got free, made a run for it. And you’re going to redirect your friends elsewhere so I can make a clean break.

It’s never going to happen.

No? Yeah, I guess you’re right. You’re too smart for that, aren’t you? You know I’d have to deal with you anyway. Oh, Andrew, you’ve made a fatal error. You sent a civilian to do an agent’s job. Poor Marlena was sure she’d secured me to that chair. Shame you have to pay for her mistake. [ominous music]

It’s not John.

Oh, thank God. Poor man.

Whoever he is, he’s still alive.

Steve, put pressure on the wound.

OK. OK.

No, don’t try to move. Don’t try to move. I’m a doctor. We’re here to help you.

No, no. It’s not safe. I’m not going to make it, am I?

Listen, listen. What’s your name, friend?

Karl.

Karl? Dr. Karl Pilkington?

Yeah.

I saw your name in some of the files I was looking through. You’re one of the top nuclear scientists in Europe, right?

So they tell me.

I’m so sorry to ask you this right now, but I’m desperate. Have you–have you seen my husband?

Yes, he–he was here.

He was?

Where is he now? Hmm? Hey, hey, hey.

Karl, do you know where my husband is?

They took him.

Who took him? Where?

They knew he infiltrated the lab. I helped him cover. That’s why they shot me.

Oh, dear God.

Moved the device and took him with it.

Wait, wait. The device? The nuclear weapon? Where did they move them to? Karl, Karl, stay with me. Stay with me.

Rosebud.

What?

Rosebud.

What does that mean? Karl? Steve, he’s gone.

Dad?

No, no, no. It’s not your dad.

Wait, wait. What are you doing here?

I was wondering the same thing.

Well, I had a surprise visitor at my hotel room. It was Orpheus.

What?

Yeah. I was able to get away just luckily.

Where is he now?

Well, Andrew was there making sure that he stays right where he is until the ISA arrives and takes him into custody. I thought I’d better come here and warn you about Orpheus.

Who is he?

Well, he’s a hero. With his help, we were able to get the upper hand. He pointed us in the right direction.

John was here. They moved him and the nuclear device someplace else.

Well, no wonder Shane wanted to keep this under wraps. Do you have any idea where they went?

No, not yet.

Well, he did say a word. He said “rosebud.”

Well, what’s that mean?

We have no idea. But we need to find out. Let’s go back to the records room and see if there’s a file about it.

And, you know, maybe– maybe Orpheus might have some idea what’s going on. He might be able to help us if we– if we question him in time.

You really think this is going to end well for you?

Well, you’re forgetting the power dynamics here. I have the gun. You don’t.

You made off with a nuclear weapon. They know that you’re planning to sell it on the black market. This is end-of-the-world type stuff, man. It doesn’t matter if you make a run for it. Every person with a badge in every friendly country will be looking for you. Hand me that gun, I’ll tell my team you’re planning to cooperate.

Cooperate?

This newfound freedom of yours is coming to an end. There are things we can do to make your sentence easier on you.

Yeah, you’re right. I’m never going to get out of this a free man. So I’ll just have to amuse myself. It’d be quite a notch on my belt to kill the ISA director’s son.

Did Steve and Marlena give you any specifics?

No, they couldn’t even if they wanted to because the assignment my father was on was obviously classified.

Brady, everything is going to be fine. All those stories about the great John Black. I mean, he’s going to outlive us all.

I hope so. I miss him. And I’m sure–I’m sure Rachel misses her grandfather, too.

Yeah. And her grandmother.

I didn’t–I didn’t tell Rachel that Marlena went after him.

Oh, no, no, no. I–I met my mother.

Oh.

Yeah.

Why? What happened?

Well, what do you think happened? EJ. Jada threatened to charge my mother as an accessory unless she testified against EJ.

She didn’t make a, uh–a run for it?

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, she didn’t. She was going to make the deal. And then EJ found out. And…[chuckles] He made the problem disappear.

You have to understand, Rafe. I thought I was going to marry you, but instead, you– this Arnold guy, he left me at the altar.

That wasn’t me!

Well, I know that now, OK? But I was devastated. And my heart was broken in a million pieces. And I didn’t know if I was going to be able to put myself back together. And Shawn, he was there to help me get out of that terrible, terrible place. And he was in a bad way, too. And he was hurt from his breakup with Belle. And we–we–we just found comfort in each other.

He was my friend, my colleague, your subordinate.

I know.

You know? So he just used you? He just used you. He used you to get back at his ex-wife.

Oh, we’re doing this again, are we? In that case, I’ll need another round.

EJ, this is really important to me. I just need you to admit the truth.

For Rafe and Jada or for yourself?

For both. I need to know that you can be honest with me, that you’re not just going to lie to my face again. So if we’re going to move forward, we have to be able to trust each other.

So you didn’t come over here for a nightcap. You reached out to button this up, get closure.

No. I came here because– because I can’t shake you, EJ. I want you. I need you. And I pull away every time I get close to you because I’m so afraid that you’re going to hurt somebody else that I love. And that is why I need you to admit the truth. I need to be able to look in your eyes when you promise me that this will never happen again. And if you can do that and if I can believe you, then maybe we have a future together. EJ, please, I just need you to admit it. I just need you to say the words. I need you to tell me that you kidnapped Rafe.

What do you mean, EJ made the problem disappear?

He didn’t admit to anything. But I know he took my mother somewhere, and he’s holding her against her will.

Oh, my God, Kristen.

I know. I know.

Kristen!

I don’t even know where she is or if she’s OK.

No, no, no, no. I’m not talking about your mother. I’m talking about our daughter. You left our daughter alone in that house with EJ, knowing what he has done?

Brady, I mean, whatever we feel about EJ, he is not going to do anything to our daughter. She is his family. She is protected, Brady, unlike my mother, who–who has been away for so many years to protect me. And I couldn’t even return the favor.

Sorry.

Are you really? I mean, I know that she didn’t garner much sympathy after what she did to your girlfriend.

Ava and I aren’t together anymore, Kristen.

You’re not?

No. We broke up after we knew that we had to let EJ walk for Rachel’s sake. I mean, she said she understood, but it was a little too much for us to overcome.

Well, then I am sorry too, Brady.

No, you’re not. That’s what you wanted all along. [tense music]

So you do want me?

Yeah. Yes. God help me. I do.

Then we want the same thing– each other.

Wait.

Why?

I told you. First, you need to admit what you did to Rafe.

Then you’re in luck. Because I didn’t do a damn thing to that man. Which means you are wearing a wire for nothing.

No, it wasn’t like that. Shawn wasn’t trying to get even with anyone.

Why are you defending him?

I’m not! OK, see, this is why I didn’t want to tell you. You didn’t need to know who he was.

Yeah, I didn’t need to know any of this, apparently, did I? I’ve been home for weeks, Jada. Why didn’t you tell me earlier?

Because you were recovering.

Oh–

EJ put you through something horrific. It never felt like the right time.

Yeah, it was never going to be the right time, was it? It feels like you were never going to tell me any of this. You were going to keep it from me. I mean, how do ever expect me to trust you again?

Orpheus, you don’t want to do this.

I’m pretty sure I do. It’s rather poetic, don’t you think? The agency got my wife killed, so I kill its director’s son. [tense music]

[gunshot]

[grunts]

Yeah, I orchestrated the whole thing so that Ava would break up with you. Mm-hmm. I mean, and what was so genius about this plan was its simplicity. I mean, all I had to do was get our daughter to kidnap your girlfriend and hope that you could convince her to recant her statement to the police and then assume that she would be appalled that a parent would choose their child over, well, their latest fling. And then she would give said parent the heave-ho. Ha. Brilliant.

OK. OK. All right. Look, look. I’ve–I’ve just been a little preoccupied, OK? I’m worried. I’m worried about my father.

He’s going to come back, Brady.

Well, I wish I were sure about that.

You know what? I am. Because I have faith. And at this point, that’s all we have left. [tense music]

Andrew, are you all right?

Yeah, I’m OK.

You saved my life.

About time I returned the favor.

Not that I’m complaining, but what are you doing back here? Did you find your dad?

No, but Steve and Marlena got a lead. And they sent me here to see what Orpheus knows about it. Now, you’re going to tell me and answer every question that I’ve got, you bastard, starting with, what is rosebud?

Finding anything useful?

No, not yet.

I wonder if Paul’s having any luck finding anything there. Do you think maybe it was a mistake to send him back to the hotel by himself?

Well, my nephew’s with him. Besides, Paul is an excellent PI, trained by none other than the esteemed John Black, which means he learned from the best, right? That’s not supposed to be a trick question.

I just found something.

What? A wire?

Don’t try and deny it. It’s the only thing that would explain this sudden reversal on your part.

OK, EJ. I get why you’d be paranoid, but–

You’ve spent days ignoring my calls and texts. And then all of a sudden, out of the blue, you show up on my doorstep admitting that you want me after all. But there’s just one catch. I need to confess all my sins to you. Do you think I’m stupid, Belle?

EJ, that’s not what’s happening here.

No? Then prove it. Prove you’re not wearing a wire. Take off your dress.

This is so not fair. I’m telling you now, aren’t I?

Yeah. Yeah, you are. But why? Why? Did your conscience get the best of you?

Is that what you think?

I don’t know what to think.

Look, I am telling you the truth, all of it, no matter how much it is killing me right now, because I love you. I love you. And you deserve to hear what happened. Look, Shawn and I were both hurting. Just–just please, just–can you please just put yourself in my shoes for a second? I thought I was going to marry you. We walked down the aisle together, and I saw our life together forever. And–and then you humiliated me in front of the entire town. You got me fired, and then you slept with a stripper–

That wasn’t me, Jada! It wasn’t me!

I know that now!

Yeah, well, you should have known then. You should have known.

What?

How could you have not known that that man was not me?

Are you seriously asking me why I didn’t guess that my fiancé was replaced by an imposter? I mean, come on.

You know, you asked how I could have thought so little of you. How about how you thought so little of me?

What do you mean?

You thought that I would take EJ on as a client? That I would believe some trumped-up charges of you being a corrupt cop? That I would sleep with a stripper at my bachelor party? And if you think that that’s the kind of man that I am, then you don’t know me at all.

OK. But I did know that you were not acting like yourself. OK, I did everything in my power to–to–to find out why and explain why you were acting this way. I–I even looked into brain damage from your coma.

OK. Yeah, right. So when the doctors waved off that it could possibly be brain damage, you did what? Hmm? Just gave up? I mean, you never even had them look at me.

Gabi and I tried, but Feniger wouldn’t go.

All right. So you were just so upset that you climbed into bed with Shawn.

How dare you?

How dare I?

Yeah, you. You have no idea the hell I’ve been through. Feniger, he put me through psychological torture, looking into the face of a man that I love and just watching him break my heart.

That’s all it took, huh? That’s all it took for you to just give up.

No.

Kind of cold, don’t you think?

No. This–this is cold. Cruel, actually. Did you blame Sami the last time that Arnold pulled this stunt? Yeah, of course you didn’t, because that would make absolutely no sense. Look, you’re just pissed because you think that EJ is going to walk like he always does. Well, I’m sorry that there’s no one else here to blame for what happened to you, Rafe, but that doesn’t mean that you get to blame me!

OK. You’re right. You are right. But I do blame you, for not having been honest with me from the start.

OK, look, yes, I should have told you sooner. I should have told you right away. I will give you that. But look, we’re here now, OK? So how can we fix this? How can we come back to each other? Just tell me what I can do to fix this.

There’s nothing you can do. Not a damn thing.

[chuckles] Rosebud? Rosebud? I’m sorry, fellas. It’s not ringing a bell.

Don’t lie to me. I know it’s connected to who took the bomb and my father.

No, no, I’m– I’m–I’m drawing a blank. Yeah. Sorry.

Tell me where my father is. Now!

Paul.

No, you have tortured him for decades. For what? Huh? You still blame him for something you and I both know he didn’t do. I’m done playing games with you.

Paul, Paul, stop, stop.

No, no, no. If this–you know what? This is never going to end until someone ends him. And if you’re not going to tell me where my father is, then I’ve got no reason not to blow you away right now. [tense music]

Rosebud. It’s the only word I can read on this entire page. Everything else is–

It’s in code. It’s encrypted. I’ll get the ISA on this right away. Good work. Listen, you should take a break.

Absolutely not.

Marlena, you’re of no use to John if you’re exhausted. Now, why don’t you take a few minutes while I send pictures of this to the agency? And then we’ll regroup.

Fine. The children are going to want to hear an update about their dad anyway.

I’m not so sure I share your faith, Kristen, but I hope you’re right about my dad. I hope you do find your mother. And I hope you get her the help that she needs.

Well, as long as my dear brother keeps my mother and me apart, I may have to force the issue.

Force the issue? What do you mean by that, Kristen?

Oh, you know, just forget I said anything. Um, I need to get home to Rachel. Good night, Brady. I really do hope that your father is safe and that he makes it home soon.

Thank you. And I wish you luck with Elvis. [tense music]

Go on. Take off your dress. If I’m wrong and you’re not wearing a wire, we’ll have a laugh, head upstairs. I mean, that’s the reason why you came over here in the first place, isn’t it? Except it’s not. You jumped at the chance when the cops asked you to wear a wire, not just to gather evidence but to prove to yourself that despite falling into bed with me, you’re still a good person, to prove that you are over me or because you know that the only way you are going to rid yourself of this temptation is for you to make me go away. [tense music] I’m not going to make it that easy for you, Belle.

I’m not going anywhere. And even if I was behind bars, I’d still be in your head, your heart, ooh, and your soul. So I’m afraid this whole setup was for naught. You won’t be able to break this spell we have over each other.

We’ll see about that.

Seriously? There’s nothing I can do to make this right? Nothing I can do to prove how much I love you, how much we love each other? [somber music]

I need space, Jada.

Space? Haven’t we had enough time apart? I mean, we can–we can get through this together.

No, I can’t. I just–I can’t.

Wait, wait. Where are you going?

OK, I– we need some time to figure some things out, OK? At least that’s what I need. And I–I can’t do that with you around, so. [sighs] I’m going to go home. But I’m going to go alone.

[phone beeps, rings] [phone ringing]

Mom? Is there any news on Dad?

Well, yes and no. He’s alive as far as we know.

That’s something, I guess.

Not nearly enough. I’m afraid he’s in more trouble than we feared.

Paul, please.

Yeah, Paul, please. We both know I’m not going to tell you where John is or where to find that bomb, just like we both know you’re never going to pull that trigger. You’re predictable.

Wanna bet?

Even if you could live with this on your conscience, you’d never implicate your fiancé. He couldn’t condone cold-blooded murder.

Don’t you speak for me.

You know, the old adage rings true. He who seeks revenge digs two graves, one for me and one for Agent Donovan’s career.

Or I just tell my superiors you reached for my gun again. Paul shot you in self-defense. I could make it look good, too. I know just where to shoot you to make the story stick. But Paul’s not going to do that, because he’s not going to shoot you again. It doesn’t matter what you’ve done. It’s not what his father would want. [tense music]

The ISA is here. They’ll bring him in for questioning.

What did I tell you? Predictable. You really are your father’s son.

[somber music]

[sighs]

We need to talk.

I am so not in the mood right now.

I do not give a damn. Where is my mother?

I said not now!

Fine. I am going to go upstairs and look in on Rachel while you take some deep breaths. This isn’t over. I will find the answers I need about my mother one way or another. [tense music]

[emotional music plays]

Steffy:  You understand that, right? Luna can never be part of our lives. Never. Look, I-I’m sure you feel some kind of obligation to her, finding out that she’s your daughter, but… you can’t help her, Finn. You can’t change her. There’s an evil inside of her, and we can’t invite her in. Luna needs to be as far away from us as possible. She can’t be in our orbit. You think it’s possible that I can actually have a relationship with my father? Of course. Luna, anything is possible. Look at the two of us. We’re perfect examples. We’re both free after all the– Do you believe in fate? Maybe. I believe that… I was allowed to get away with all those terrible– I think I was meant to be here as your grandmother, a source of strength for you. And Finn is your father. You deserve a life with him, and so do I. Thank you for believing that. And thank you for not turning your back on me. You’ve done terrible things. But that doesn’t make you a… a terrible person. Right now, you might be the only person in my corner. No. That’s not true. Bill arranged a pardon for you. Yeah, uh… he and I, we-we have a weird connection. Our messed-up childhoods bonded us, and… I know he wants to see me succeed, but he can only help so much. I mean, he asked me to leave. I literally had nowhere to go. Now, that’s not true. Because I’m here for you. And I’m gonna take care of you. [Luna sniffles] ELECTRA: Luna was at Il Giardino? And she actually… came on to you? I shut her down. As if you’d be interested in a murderer. As if I would be interested in anyone but you. [huffs] What was she thinking, making a play for someone who’s already taken? [uneasy music plays] [moody music plays] Hey, I hear you…all right? There’s definitely no place for Luna in our lives. I wish it could be different. -For your sake. -No, honey, honey, hey. I get it, okay? I get it. I do. -Okay. -Okay. Oh! [chuckles] -Oh. -Hey, Mom. -Sorry! -Hi. I should have texted you I was coming over. I don’t wanna be one of those mothers. You’re never gonna be one of those mothers. You weren’t interrupting. We were just, um, talking it all out. “It”? How crazy it is that Luna’s out of prison. Yeah. Yeah, it’s completely crazy. Something is seriously wrong with the system if someone as sick as Luna can go free. You’re an inspiring example, you know? What it means to get a new life, a second chance. That’s all I want. Ah, well, I–mmm. I’m not sure that’s all you want, because you did mention something about a boy. And not just any boy. Uh-uh. Uh, no, uh…Will Spencer? [chuckles] This is making you upset. I can tell. Well, yeah. It’s not exactly fun to hear that someone’s hitting on my boyfriend. I was as thrown as you are. This is just more proof of how unhinged she is, thinking that it could ever happen between the two of you. You hate Luna. Everybody does. For good reason! I-I know. Being unhinged gives you confidence, I guess. She really hit on you? What did she say? It doesn’t matter. I told you– No. I wanna know. Well, that, um, that she would, uh, she would always be there for me. Whatever I want. Whatever I need. I know, I know. It’s inappropriate. Especially since it was a, um… Since what? Since it was a reaction to us. She must have saw us at the restaurant and started eavesdropping. So basically, she’s willing to give you everything I’m not. [edgy music plays] Luna killed two men. She tried to kill me. She should be locked up. She shouldn’t be a part of society, but– Somehow, some way, Bill got her put on house arrest. And even more crazy– he got her released. Fully pardoned. I’ll never understand it. But I’m gonna do everything in my power to get her back in prison. She needs to rot in a cell for her crimes. Her and her grandmother… Sheila. I, uh, I realized… you’re–what do you kids say these days? You’re-you’re crushing on Will pretty hard. No. It’s more than a crush. [laughs] How can that be? You just met him. No, I used to watch him. Yeah, when I was on house arrest at Bill’s, I would hide when he would come over and… I would listen in on their conversations, and… he’s just really sweet and thoughtful. He’s just a really great guy, you know? Yeah. They are out there. I found one. Well, I think I found mine. That’s why I sort of, um… I kinda did something earlier. What? He was here. At the restaurant? Mm-hmm. With her. -Her? -Electra Forrester. [laughs] You mean his girlfriend. I guess. Anyways, after little miss smug left, I approached him. Yeah? Well, how did that go? [exhales] Honestly, he was a little freaked out to see me. I am very familiar with that kind of a reaction. I mean, I swore up and down that I’ve changed and that I’m not the same person who-who did those horrible things. No, you’re not. Of course you’re not. Also, I…made it very clear exactly how I feel about him. Don’t let Luna get under your skin. It’s probably the last time I’m ever gonna see her. I doubt it, if she’s got some kind of crush. It’s so embarrassing. Embarrassing? What-what’s embarrassing? Well, she’s spying on us, eavesdropping. The things we were talking about– she must have heard you talking about taking things to the next level. I don’t know what she overheard. Okay, but clearly, me talking about liking oat milk wasn’t what gave her the idea. She did that because she heard you talking about wanting to further our relationship, and… she just threw herself at you. Was it the second I left? Yeah, basically. And how did you respond? What did you say to her? [edgy music plays] Makes my skin crawl, thinking about Luna and Sheila being blood related. No offense.

Finn: Who are you? It’s me, sweetheart, your mother. I’m your mother. That day has finally come– the day that you have waited an entire lifetime for, Luna. It’s me. I’m your father. You have to set me free. Think about Finn. Think about my family, please. A family that you’ll never see again. No, don’t say something like that! I’ll kill you! No! No, no, no, come back here, Luna! You’re not gonna get away with it! You’re not gonna get away with it! -[intense music plays] -[no audio] [no audio] [gunshot] No! Luna Nozawa has been pardoned. She’s a free woman!

Steffy:  Free woman? She killed two men! She needs to go back to prison! We have an opportunity here… …for a second chance, thanks to Bill Spencer, so please, let’s not waste it. -A second chance? -To start over. I don’t wanna see you. I don’t wanna know you’re alive. You stay away from me, my wife, and our children. Just stay the hell away. No, um, none taken. It’s crazy, knowing what Sheila has done over the years, and now her granddaughter’s just picking up where she left off. It explains Luna’s dangerous, sociopathic behavior, -that’s for sure. -Yeah. It does. Two women willing to do anything, no matter how horrible, to get what they want in this life. Grandmother and granddaughter– two vile, soulless murderers. Sheila and Luna. Two peas in a pod. [exhales] You told Will how you feel. Mm-hmm. After his perfect, prude girlfriend shut him down. Electra is so annoying, and not just to me. [huffs] Poor Will. -Poor Will? -Yes! I could see how frustrated he was after she left. He wants more. He needs more. He needs a real woman. [laughing] Oh! Someone like my beautiful, sexy granddaughter? [both laughing] You don’t have to worry. Not about you, but what about Luna? What if she didn’t get the message and keeps pursuing? I told Luna I want nothing to do with her. -Okay. -She and I will never happen. But Will, this girl killed two people. Why? Because she wanted to be your dad’s daughter. She wanted to be a Spencer, and what if she’s thinking she can still do that through you? She can think whatever she wants as long as it’s far away from us. I don’t want that girl anywhere near you. I wonder why she was at Il Giardino in the first place. Same as us. The food’s good. Is she following us? No, no. I-I don’t think so. Wait, uh, that waitress, um… the owner’s wife. -Uh, Sheila Carter. -Yes. Didn’t Luna just find out they’re related? Yeah, Finn’s her father, which makes Sheila her grandmother. And it’s almost ironic. You would think that Il Giardino is the last place that Luna would wanna show her face at, given that she had just murdered two people there. -[phone chimes] -[exhales] Oh, shoot, I–I gotta go. It’s Ridge. He wants me for the mail room. But listen, don’t let this Luna stuff get you down, okay? I’ll try. And don’t let her get into your head. As long as we stay far away from Luna, she’s not gonna be able to hurt us. We survived Remy. We’re gonna survive Luna too. I don’t want anything coming in between us. You mean too much to me. Well, one thing’s gotta come between us. The mail room. Did you already forget Ridge texted you? Look at you, making sure I keep my job. It’d be way too boring here without you. -Mm-hmm. -[giggles] I’ll see ya. We are definitely surviving Luna. [oceans waves splashing] I don’t… I don’t think we have another Sheila with Luna because Sheila… …she doesn’t give up. Meaning what? Oh, she reaches out, wanting to see Hayes and me. -Not that I ever respond… -[heavy sigh] …or give her any reason to think that that’s actually possible.

Steffy:  I know, but Sheila doesn’t care. She’ll do whatever it takes to pull you back in. You don’t wanna deal with -Luna doing it to you too. -No, I don’t, and I can’t have anything to do with either one of them. -Sheila… -And Luna, Finn. Yeah. Definitely not. The girl’s dangerous.

Steffy:  Who knows what she’ll do? Or who she’ll target next. -Table for one? -Uh, no, I’m actually looking for someone. -Luna. Is she still here? -My shift just started. Um…what about Sheila? Sheila… oh, I think she’s upstairs. Yeah, first apartment you come to on your right. Thank you. [phone chimes] -WILL: Oh– -Oh! I am so sorry. I was not looking where I was going. It’s okay. I guess I wasn’t either. A ring. [soft music plays] I know how much you want it. You can have it all with me. Mmm. When I think about the future -that Will and I can share– -Future? This isn’t just about some kind of a fun hookup? No! No, it’s so much more than that. Wow! Okay, well, then if that’s the future you want, I will do everything in my power to help you get it. -[Sheila chuckles] -[knock on door] -Uh, you better… -Hide? Yeah. [clears throat] -Hello. -Hi, Shiela. Yes? Electra Forester. I think you have sat in my section a few times. -Mm-hmm. -Normally with Will Spencer. -Yes. -Yeah, I think you might have made a wrong turn, though, if you’re looking for the hostess stand. I’m actually looking for Luna, your granddaughter. [door clicks open] Me? I know what you said to Will, my boyfriend, and I’m here to tell you to back off or you’re gonna regret it. [intense music plays]

Recap written by Michele and Cheryl

Jada told Rafe that she slept with another man. She explained to him why and when it happened but didn’t want to tell him who it was. Rafe wanted to know if it was someone who knew. Jada said she slept with Shawn. She let him know what Arnold put her throw, but Rafe said it wasn’t him. Jada told him that she and Shawn were lost, but Rafe thought Shawn used her to get back at Belle. She said Shawn wasn’t using her. Rafe was furious that she didn’t tell him before and wasn’t sure if he would be able to trust her. She thought his reaction wasn’t fair because she was telling him now. Jada said she loved him and was telling him the truth. She said he deserved to know what happened and told him she and Shawn were hurting. When Jada said she thought Rafe turned on her and cost her her job, Rafe said it wasn’t him. Rafe said she should have known that. He wondered how she thought so little of him that she would have believed he would do those things to her. Jada said she didn’t know that he was replaced by an imposter. When she said Arnold put her through torture, Rafe said she gave up on him. Jada asked if he forgave Sami when Arnold did this before. Rafe said she wasn’t honest with him. She agreed with him and said this was where they were now and wondered if they could fix it to which Rafe said they couldn’t. He said he needed space and time and wanted to go home alone. EJ was happy to see Belle at the mansion but wondered what changed her mind about seeing him. She said she threw him out because she was going through a lot. EJ said she wasn’t lying about his feelings for her. He said he would never hurt her, but she reminded him that he hurt the people she cared about. She said she could forgive that but not dishonesty and wanted him to admit what he did to Jada and Rafe. When EJ wouldn’t tell her what he did, she drove it home that she needed to trust him. She said she wanted him to admit what he did if he wanted a future with her. EJ tried to seduce Belle, but she stopped him until he could admit to what he did. He told her he had nothing to do with what happened to Rafe so she was wearing a wire for nothing. Belle denied wearing a wire, but EJ didn’t believe her. He said it would explain her attitude change. Belle kept denying that she was wearing a wire. EJ wanted her to prove it by stripping. They continued to talk until she walked out.

Kristen went to check on Brady to find out about John. Brady told her what was going on. She told him that her mother is missing because of EJ. Brady was upset that she left Rachel in the house with EJ. Kristen said Rachel was family, so she was safe. Brady ended up telling her that he and Ava broke up because of EJ and Rachel and thought Kristen was okay with it. Kristen denied having anything to do with it. They talked about John being missing. Kristen assured him that John would be okay. Steve went in the office at the facility and shot the assassin. He looked in the office. Marlena showed up and saw the dead man who might be John. When Marlena lifted the man’s head and saw that he wasn’t John. The man was also not dead. He let them know who he was. Marlena asked him if he has seen John. The man said John was there but the men too him with the device. He said he was shot because he helped John. The only thing he said was Rosebud before he died. Paul ended up showing up. He and Steve wondered why Marlena was there. She told them about Orpheus and they all went back to the reference room to see if there was a file. Steve and Marlena looked through the paperwork. Paul went back to the hotel. Marlena found something and showed it to Steve. He said he would send it to the ISA. Orpheus pulled a gun on Andrew and made fun of him for being a terrible agent. Andrew told him he wouldn’t get away with what he’s done. Orpheus said he would kill him. When Orpheus was about to shoot Andrew, a gun shot went off. Orpheus fell to the ground. Paul ended up shooting him. Andrew was glad to see him. Paul asked Orpheus about Rosebud. Orpheus said the word meant nothing to him which caused Paul to threaten to kill him. When Kristen went home, she wanted EJ to tell her where her mother was. EJ refused to answer her. Kristen left and said it wasn’t over and walked off. She pulled out the gun from her pocketbook.
