Billy: Whether it’s a business, a friendship, or a romantic relationship, to me, the key to a successful partnership is compromise and balance — supporting the other person while being honest about each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Now, let me be very clear. I’ve had a few partners who were not shy about pointing out my numerous flaws, and it’s not fun in the moment at all. But ultimately, I do believe that it is a good thing.

[Button clicks] What do you think?

Lily: I mean, I love it. I think it’s great.

Nate: Yeah. I won’t be bringing up Elena’s weaknesses anytime soon.

Devon: Do you do that with Lily?

Billy: No, of course not. Look at her — she’s perfect.

***************

Nick: Kids were surprised I decided to come back to work here.

Victoria: In a good way, I hope.

Nick: Oh, yeah. Faith told me that as soon as she graduates college, she’s gonna be coming after my job.

Victoria: Well, you better work hard, because my niece is a very smart young lady.

Nick: I’m on notice. You run a tight ship.

Victoria: Seriously, though, I would love to have her here at Newman Enterprises, but I think maybe the management trainee program might be a better place for her to start her career.

Nick: Yeah, that’s more like it.

Victoria: But I like it very much that she’s interested in the family business. I’d love to see the next generation getting involved and coming up through the ranks. If I’ve learned anything this past year it’s that the leadership of this company needs to stay in Newman hands.

Lauren: Ooh! I can’t wait to be wowed by your latest designs. Do not keep you waiting another second.

Chelsea: Okay. Um… I don’t want to burst your bubble, but there aren’t any designs.

Lauren: [ Laughs ] Wait. Are you joking? But there are deadlines to be met. There are wheels in motion. Everyone is waiting for your designs for your line.

Chelsea: I’m sorry, truly, but I have to take a sabbatical from designing. I dove back in too deep, too fast. And I have to put my mental health before my job.

[ Button clicks ] What do you think?

Lily: I mean, I love it. I think it’s great.

Nate: Yeah. I won’t be bringing up elena’s weaknesses anytime soon.

Devon: Do you do that with lily?

Billy: No, of course not. Look at her — she’s perfect.

Lily: Hello.

Devon: Yeah. I love it. I really liked it. It’s a good episode. It had good energy, and it was funny.

Billy: Well, I’m glad you’re saying that, because there’s something else I want to play for you here. Elsea and I accidentally kept recording, and I want you to hear that.

Chelsea: Partnersp, huh? Well, you were talking about me.

Billy: No, I was not.

Chelsea: You clearly were.

Billy: Look, not everything is about you.

Chelsea: Oh, okay, okay. So now you’re criticizing me for being self-centered?

Billy: It’s not always easy inhe moment, is it? But you got to believe it’s a good thing.

Chelsea: Well, I’m not sure yet, because I’m still in the moment.

[ Button clicks ]

Nate: That’s just more evidence that honesty isn’t always the best policy.

Lily: No, I disagree. I think it’s crucial.

Devon: Well, I mean, it sparks debate. It does. But why did you — why’d you play us that last part?

Billy: I think there’s something there. The camaraderie, the back-and-forth, the give-and-take — that’s what engages with audiences.

Lily: Wait. Are you suggesting that you and chelsea do the podcast together?

Imani: Hi. Yes, this is imani benedict. I wanted to confirm a dinner reservation for tonight. For two. Great. Thank you.

[ Knock on door ] Oh. Hey.

Amanda: Hey, I missed you at the office, so I brought up some contracts that we really need to review. Oh, I’m sorry. Is this a bad time? Are you going out?

Imani: Oh, um, yeah, but not out out.

Amanda: Okay. What does that mean?

Imani: I’m going to a dinner. A work dinner, actually. Nate and I are meeting with sally spectra at society to discuss getting elena out of her newman contract.

Amanda: Huh. Well, this is the first time that I’m hearing about this. Did you take this upon yourself to set this up?

Nick: Kids were surprised I decided to come back to work here.

Victoria: In a good way, I hope.

Nick: Oh, yeah. Faith told me that as soon as she graduates college, she’s gonna be coming after my job.

Victoria: Well, you better work hard, because my niece is a very smart young lady.

Nick: I’m on notice. You run a tight ship.

Victoria: Seriously, though, I would love to have her here at newman terprises, but I think maybe the management trainee program might be a better place for her to start her career.

Nick: Yeah, that’s more like it.

Victoria: But I like it very much that she’s interested in the family business. I’d love to see the next generation getting involved and coming up through the ranks. If I’ve learned anything this past year it’s that the leadership of this company needs to stay in newman hands.

Nick: Well, with ashland gone, it’s a new era.

Victoria: Yes. And I don’t think we ever have to worry about him being in the position where he can attack the business again. His credibility is shot.

Nick: Did you hear the podcast exposing ashland for lying about having cancer?

Victoria: I have.

Nick: The grinning soul really went after the jugular.

Victoria: In my opinion, they didn’t go far enough.

Nick: I’m concerned about how ashland is going to react. You know, if he hasn’t heard the podcast yet, he certainly will. And I’m sure he’s going to think you’re responsible.

Victoria: I’m not really worried about that nicholas. He’s ruined. And the more that story gets out there, the more the whole world is gonna know what a lying monster he really is.

Nick: You don’t think you can bounce back from this?

Victoria: No, he’s dead in the business world — and to anyone with any scruples.

Nick: If I were you, I wouldn’t be so cavalier about it. Ashland is not the kind of person who’s just gonna fade out of the picture.

Victoria: Nicholas, why are you still so worried about him?

Nick: Dad thinks ashland is discreetly making his way back to genoa city.

Billy: The man lied about having cancer to his own family, to his wife, to his young son. Ashland locke let his son believe that he was going to die. And for what? A business deal.

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: Open it up, ashland.

Ashland: How did you find me?

Adam: Well, give me a little credit. I may be going to war with victor, but I’m still my father’s son.

Ashland: Meaning you know how to get things done.

Adam: Look, you may be wanting to keep a low profile, but you’re not gonna be able to hide in genoa city for long. My father will soon find out where you are, if he hasn’t already.

Ashland: What do you want?

Adam: Well, the question on everyone’s mind is, what do you want?

Sally: New developments here. Call me. Mr. Newman.

Victor: Ms. Spectra, please have a seat.

Sally: What brings you by?

Victor: You and I need to clear up a few things. Well, now, let me see this. Hmm. (Denise) my husband has lung cancer

provided by… my blood pressure is borderline.

Nick: Dad has michael baldwin keeping close tabs on ashland. He found out that ashland booked a charter out of new york into chicago just after you walked out on him.

Victoria: Dad already told me. Ashland is free to go wherever he wants. If he wants to slither back into town, I don’t care. There’s nothing that ashland can do to hurt me again.

Nick: I wouldn’t be so sure about that. You should have a security detail just in case.

Ashland: You already asked me why I was back in town when we ran into each other at the coffee house.

Adam: Well, I feel like i didn’t get the real answer, ’cause there’s no way you came back to town just to get your belongings from victoria’s place. You could have sent for someone to do that. And you still have a restraining order against you regarding harrison.

Ashland: Which is completely unjust, thanks to your father’s vendetta against me.

Adam: Mm-hmm. He is relentless about going after his enemies. So you would be a fool to break that. So I expect you are back for payback, which you alluded to during our last encounter.

Ashland: You’re making an awful lot of assumptions.

Adam: I also don’t think it was a coincidence we ran into each other. I think you sought me out.

Ashland: Really? At crimson lights. I mean, how on earth could I possibly have known the moment that you would decide to get a cup of coffee?

Adam: Oh, I’m sure you have your ways, just like I have mine.

Ashland: And why the hell would I want to spend any time with you?

Adam: Because you wanted to let me know that we were of like minds when it comes to victoria. And I have to say, after our chat, I was a little intrigued.

Ashland: Oh, so you’re after something similar, as I suspected. You must still be smarting from the humiliation of losing that ceo position so quickly before you even had a chance to close a deal or — or file a quarterly report.

Adam: You know, before i knocked on that door, I could have swore I heard you listening to the grinning soul podcast. I mean, that probably upped your wrath a few notches.

Ashland: Yeah, I’m pretty sure victoria was behind that.

Adam: Yeah, that’s probably a good guess.

Ashland: You still haven’t answered my question. Why do you care so much about what I’m feeling? And don’t tell me it’s because you want to protect your sister. I highly doubt that’s the case.

Adam: Okay. Seems like we’re being candid here, so I will be straight with you. I hated what you did to my family back when I cared about being part of my family. And since then, they have made it crystal clear that I am dispensable, and I’m sick and tired of being pushed aside and used. So I’m finally done with every single one of them.

Victor: You know what my son is planning as his next move?

Sally: I don’T.

Victor: I suggest you not lie to me.

Sally: Mr. Newman, I am not lying.

Victor: Are you aware that i asked him to stay on at the helm of newman media?

Sally: Yes.

Victor: Are you also aware that he turned me down?

Sally: He filled me in on that development.

Victor: You know, of course, that he and I created newman media and that he made it the entity it is now, a force to be reckoned with. You know that, no?

Sally: Yes.

Victor: And are you also aware that, of course, you have no experience in this field at all? None. Nothing in your background suggests that you know what you’re doing.

Sally: With all due respect, lots of people make career jumps. The truth is, the skill set it takes to be successful in fashion and run a fashion house, which I’ve done, is translatable. I’m the ceo of newman media not because I’m adam’s girlfriend but because he believed in my talent and my ability. And I am willing to prove that to you and anyone else that has doubts.

Victor: You want to prove yourself to me? You convince adam to return to his rightful position as ceo of this company. How did olay top expensive creams?

Chelsea: I wasn emotionally or psychologically ready to start designing again. And I think it’s catching up with me.

Lauren: And where’s chloe in all this?

Chelsea: We’re dissolving our partnership. Lauren, it was my idea, so it was very important to me. I wanted to be the one to tell you.

Lauren: Well, I don’t want to seem harsh or uncaring, and I’m sorry that you’re struggling. But I took a chance on you, despite our past differences. And fenmore’s has been awaiting your full winter line in the next couple weeks.

Chelsea: I know. And I hate that I couldn’t live up to my end of the bargain. Trust me, I hate it. But I do have a solution pending. I have a designer friend in new york. He’s willing to step in for me and finish the winter line.

Lauren: Who?

Chelsea: Mark paulsen.

Lauren: Oh. Yeah, I — I know him. I guess that could work, not that you’re giving me much choice.

Lauren: Your permission pending, I have caught him up to speed. He knows everything about the line, and he’d be able to step in for me. I think he’d be able to do a really good job.

Lauren: Well, I guess we can try it. And I hope this transition is as easy as you’re making it sound.

Chelsea: I really think it will be.

Lauren: Well. I know you’re doing this for your emotional well-being, and that’s something that I would always support.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Lauren: Is there anything I can do for you?

Chelsea: Thank you. I really appreciate the offer, but — [ Breathes deeply ] — This time, I think I have to learn to heal by myself.

Lily: Wait. I thought chelsea was gonna give off-camera feedback. Now she wants to be on-air talent?

Billy: Well, I haven’t run it by her yet. I wanted to touch base with everyone here, but I think that there’s something there. And, you know, that was us not trying. I’m hoping that if we actually tried, it would be even better.

Devon: Well, I’d like to hear specifics on how you think it would work.

Billy: Okay. In my estimation, I think it’s still my podcast, but I have someone there to hold me accountable, you know? To call me out on my stuff. And the truth is, chelsea and i have both messed up in life, but it’s made us resilient, and we bounce back. And, you know, I think we can keep it fun. We can keep it light and not so dour.

Lily: Oh, god, I’m never gonna live that down.

Billy: No, it’s a good thing. I think it’s a good thing because, you know, the truth is, it was hard to hear, but there’s a problem, and now I’m trying to solve it.

Devon: What did she say? Did she say your podcast was depressing?

Billy: Oh, yeah. In not so many words.

Devon: Well, thank god.

Lily: Oh, “thank god” — you hear that? See?

Billy: What?

Lily: See?

Nate: I’m glad someone finally said it.

Billy: E you kidding me? Why would you guys not say anything? Okay, look, forget that. It’s not easy to hear in the moment, but it’s a good thing. That’s what I’m sticking with.

Devon: It is. No, it really is. I like this chelsea ea.

Nate: Podcasts with multiple hosts usually outperform podcasts with single hosts.

Billy: There you go.

Nate: What do you think, lily?

Lily: I mean, I think it’s interesting. I guess let’s, uh, give it a trial run.

Billy: Okay, good. I think that’s good. Now I just have to try and convince my partner. My co-host.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Imani: I meant to tell you, but it just happened so quickly. Nate asked if I could help to bring elena on board at chancellor-winters, and it was your turn to visit mom at the time. I didn’t think it was a big enough deal to bother you.

Amanda: Okay. Well, I don’t have any plans tonight, so why don’t I join you?

Imani: Oh, that’s really not necessary. It’ll be a no-brainer thing. I think nate will do most, if not all, the talking with sally, and I’ll just take a back seat

it doesn’t feel like we’re ganging up on her. I’ll really just be there to point out any potential legal ramifications. Seriously, not a big deal.

Amanda: Are we really back to this?

Imani: Back to what?

Amanda: Back to you, finding every excuse to spend time with nate, especially when elena’s out of town.

Adam: Well, I guess we’re in a similar boat after all. I mean, we may not have gotten there the same way, but I know far too well the frustration that you’re feeling. I know what it’s like to be pushed aside. Not good enough for the newmans. I mean, victoria told you in no uncertain terms that she will never forgive you. I know how much that must hurt.

Ashland: You have no idea what I’m feeling.

Adam: Hey, come on. You got to give me a little credit. I actually believed you loved my sister, which makes me the only person on the planet that believes you actually felt remorse. I mean, in your own way, but what did it get you? Your remorse got you nothing, like me and my family loyalty got me nothing. Because my family holds themself to one standard and us another.

Ashland: They’re a bunch of hypocrites.

Adam: So?

Ashland: So… you do want the same thing I do.

Adam: To see our enemies taken down? Where do we start?

Victoria: Look, nicholas, I really do appreciate your concern for my well-being, but you do understand that dad has that under control, don’t you?

Nick: Of course he does.

Victoria: In fact, I think I saw two guys from his private security team following me earlier.

Nick: Well, it might seem creepy to you, but it’s actually a huge relief to me.

Victoria: I really don’t know how it makes me feel other than I’m tired of thinking of ashland. So can we please move on? Now that you’re back at newman enterprises, the two of us, along with mom and dad, we’re gonna accomplish some amazing things. To that end, I would really like to concentrate more on our streaming platforms. Oh, and folding chanccomm into newman media in a more cohesive way. Sally and adam kind of left too many aspects of that up in the air.

Nick: Yeah, I’ll put that at the top of the agenda.

Victoria: Good. But I think we also need to take a proactive measure, and now that adam has chosen to move on, I think it’s time that ms. Spectra follows suit.

Nick: You want to fire sally? This is john.

Victoria: Firing sally is a perfectly reasonable option. She was never qualified to be coo, and now we want to trust her to run newman media all on her own? And on top of her lack of experience, she’s proven from her past actions that she can’t be trusted.

Nick: I can understand why you want to let sally go. But I don’t know. So soon after adam’s unceremonious exit, it might be a harsh one-two punch.

Victoria: I’ll offer her an impressive severance package to cushion the blow. Look, nicholas, to be frank with you, I want to surround myself with people that I can rely on, people that are loyal to me. And sally and adam do not fit that description. I know dad is still holding out hope that adam will stay on board, but I have decided that no matter what adam chooses to do, I do not want him here at newman.

Nick: Well, I don’t disagree with you on the trust factor. How about this? Why don’t I go to sally? Kind of feel her out. You know, get some reconnaissance about our brother. See if he is really, truly walking away, because then you won’t have to step in unless necessary.

Victoria: That would be very helpful and savvy. Thank you. I’m glad we’re on the same team working together.

Nick: Me too.

Sally: Mr. Newman, adam chose to walk away. Why can’t you accept his decision?

Victor: Ms. Spectra… I know you have influence over my son, okay? So you convince him to come back here and assume his proper role as ceo of newman media. Okay?

Sally: I have a feeling this is something I shouldn’t refuse?

Victor: You have a nice day.

Sally: Adam, it’s me. I just had a visit from your father.

[ Sighs ] Call me back. We need to tk.Al

Ashland: I get that you’re angry at your family, but are you really ready to commit to this?

Adam: I want them to be sorry the way that they turned their backs on me. I want them to regret the way that they’ve treated me. So the easiest way for me to achieve that is for you and I to help each other. Because I have something that you need. Someone who understands the newman mindset. Somebody that is on the inside.

Ashland: But you’re not on the inside. You said so yourself. You’re dispensable. So how could you possibly help me if you’ve been pushed out?

Adam: Because I know how the family operates. Years of combat has taught me how to wound them. You see, I know the pressure points to work on my father and my sister. So you can do whatever you want with that information. But if you’re smart, you will use it to take down victoria and hurt my father. So if that’s your plan, I’m in 100%. Meet febreze’s miracle spray: Febreze fabric refresher.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Imani: Enough, amanda. You actually think that I would put the moves on nate in the middle of an important business dinner with the head of a rival company? That is crazy. So please stop telling me how to behave and trying to control me.

Amanda: That is not what I am doing.

Imani: Maybe you’re trying to make up for the years you lost being a big sister, but I’m telling you, this is not the way to do it.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Amanda: Is everything okay?

Imani: It’s from my dad. It’s about mom.

Amanda: What happened?

Imani: She had a minor seizure and she wants to see you. You should go, okay? Go tonight.

Amanda: No, no, I just — I just got back. You should go, if you —

Imani: Amanda, she’s asking for you.

Lily: Okay. So I think we should go over the budgets for each division this week, and then I will work on the chancellor side.

Devon: Okay. Nate and I will get our numbers together.

Nate: I will jump into it tomorrow morning. I’ve got to run to a dinner meeting with imani and sally spectra in a few. Hopefully we’ll be able to get elena a release from her newman media contract.

Devon: Good, good. Before we take off, though, i want to bring up one more thing. Lily, do you think that it’s the best idea for billy to be focusing on these podcasts when our newly merged company is just finding its footing?

Lily: I thought you were on board with billy’s ideas.

Devon: Yeah, no, I am on board. But he rushed out of here before the meeting was over, and I’m worried about how much energy it’s taking up and what it’s taking away from.

Nate: He was just excited. That’s what makes the podcast worth listening to.

Devon: Yeah, it’s — it’s not his enthusiasm that’s a problem. I’m glad that he has that because we need content since we promised to release dozens of new series. I just don’t want the podcast to get in the way of him being your coo.

Lily: I mean, I don’t — i don’t think that they are. Actually, today’s episode set record numbers.

Devon: I don’t think that’s accurate.

Lily: Well, not that podcast, his other podcast. Now that we’ve merged companies, you’re gonna find out soon enough, so I’ll just tell you. Billy is “the grinning soul.”

Devon: So the attack on ashland that’s getting all that traction is billy?

Lily: Yeah. So I’d actually argue that he’s doing as much as we are to contribute to the success of chancellor-winters.

Lauren: Oh, hey, billy. I heard your latest podcast.

Billy: Oh, okay. Well, just before you finish that thought, let me just tell you that I’m working on a few things. It’s a work-in-progress, you know, always evolving.

Lauren: Aren’t we all, honey?

Billy: Yeah.

Lauren: Nice to see you.

Billy: Good to see you, too. Hi. Thank you so much for sticking around. I hope this is okay.

Chelsea: What’s up? Ready to try out another podcast on me?

Billy: Well, funny you should say that, because I want to run something by you.

Chelsea: I’m all ears.

Billy: Okay, so you know yesterday how we ended up continuing recording the podcast? Accidentally, of course. Well, it was so interesting to me that I ran it by the powers-that-be at chancellor-winters.

Chelsea: I don’t remember what I said. Did I step on some toes?

Billy: Well, you did, but they were mine and it was entertaining. And so this is what I’m thinking. You are at a crossroads in your life, and my self-help podcast needs a little self-help. So I’m wondering if there’s an intersection where those two worlds can come together.

Chelsea: What are you saying?

Billy: What do you think about becoming my co-host?

Adam: So does it feel good? You know, stepping in to replace me? Coming back to the corporate world you supposedly hated?

Nick: Believe it or not, adam, my career change has got nothing to do with you. But it was your choice, right? Unless you’re having second thoughts about that.

Adam: I’m more interested in why you’re here. You are not looking for me, obviously. Do you have some business with sally? Is there a problem? Because if there is, I would really like to know because I care about sally and this job means the world to her.

Nick: I have a feeling if you don’t come back to newman media, vick’s gonna fire sally. After years on the battlefield

Victoria: Thank you, robin. I appreciate you making the changes. I’m signing off on it right now. Okay. Thank you.

Victor: Well, now, I, for one, am not going to get tired of watching you work any time soon.

Victoria: Well, I have to say, it feels good. Feels like I picked up right where I left off. And you don’t have to worry. Newman is in good hands.

Victor: I know.

Victoria: I’ve already made some very important decisions, and I am hoping to set everything right again, starting with sally spectra. She needs to go.

Victor: Oh, well, not so fast, okay? I think she is essential for a while.

Look, I know victoria would not like me back at the company in any capacity, but it’s really — it’s not fair to fire sally just because she is romantically involved with me.

Nick: Vick doesn’t feel like she’s the right fit for the job.

Adam: Despite the stellar work that she’s been doing?

Nick: Adam, I don’t know anything about her track record, but I’ll bet you, youif came back to newman media, nobody would have a problem if sally slid right back into her coo role.

Adam: Okay, well — well, i would have a problem with it.

Nick: Would it be that awful to work with the family?

Adam: [ Sighs ] Look, I have a thought. What if I come back to the company as coo of newman media? That way, sally can stay where she is.

Nick: Won’t fly with vick. She wants someone more experienced.

Adam: Hmm. And who isn’t sleeping with me.

Nick: She didn’t say that.

Adam: Yeah, but we both know that is the issue for her. Look, before you say anything to sally, will you just let me talk to victoria first? Will you just give me that?

Nick: Alright, adam, done. I’ll make sure nobody talks to sally until the morning.

Sally: I thought I heard you out there. Who were you talking to?

Devon: Well, I can’t argue with the metrics of “the grinning soul.”

Lily: Yeah, I mean, the ashland locke episode’s on track to be our biggest one yet.

Devon: Oh.

Amanda: Hi. I’m so glad that you’re still here.

Lily: Oh, speaking of which, thank you so much for clearing up all those legal issues of the ashland episode.

Amanda: Yeah, that — that was not a problem, but that’s not why I’m here.

Devon: What’s wrong? Did something happen?

Amanda: My mom just had a seizure, and I need to go. I need to just be there.

L my — I’m so sryry. Yeah, whatever you need. Honestly, we’ll hold it down here. Take as much time as you want.

Amanda: Okay, thank you. I really appreciate that.

Don d d d dll gho g g g gh you.

Amanda: Okay.

Devon: Alright? I’ll see you.

Lily: Okay.

Devon: Hey.

Amanda: Hey.

Devon: Come here.

Amanda: [ Shs ] S s s s s s

Devon: You okay?

Amanda: I will be, thanks to this hug.

Devon: Listen, I want to be a bigger help than just this, so I’m gonna go with you to see naya.

Amanda: Really?

Devon: Absolutely.

Amanda: Oh.

Nate: Hey.

Imani: Oh, hey.

Nate: Well, it looks like we beat sally here, which is probably a good thing. It’ll give us a minute to go over our approach.

Imani: Don’t think we’ll need that minute. I just got a message from sally that she had to reschedule our meeting.

Nate: What?

Imani: Mm-hmm.

Nate: [ Sighs ] Well, that’s too bad. I was really hoping we could get the ball rolling to free up elena by the time she gets back from her conference.

Imani: Well, I’m afraid the battle’s not over yet, but I am still determined to make this happen for you.

Nate: Thank you.

Imani: Mm-hmm.

Nate: Well, I guess I’ll order some takeout and you can have your night back to yourself.

Imani: Um, actually, is there any way you could stay tonight? I could really use someone to talk to.

Billy: You were right a few days ago when you pointed out how you could potentially help my podcast, because you do know the different sides of me and you are not afraid to tell me what you think.

Chelsea: So my lack of diplomacy makes you think I should work with you?

Billy: Well, not exactly, but yes. Look, something happened when we kept recording yesterday. Ere was a little piece of magic in there. It was free, it was easy. And we do have a connection. And I think together we can find the right tone for a fantastic podcast. And we can bring guests on. We can talk about entertainment. We can give advice. We can still dig deep on the things that matter, but it just won’t be as boring for the audience.

Chelsea: Are you done?

Billy: Yeah, I’m done. What do you think?

Chelsea: I think it would be genuinely healing and a whole lot of fun.

Imani: The seizure was relatively minor, but still upsetting. Amanda’s going to be with our mom.

Nate: Usually the after-effects of a seizure like that are manageable.

Imani: Really? You’re not just saying that to make me feel better?

Nate: No, I wouldn’t give you any false hope. From everything you and amanda have told me, she is getting the best care possible. And I’m sure having family around helps with her mental state.

Imani: Yeah, I think so. Thank you for being so encouraging. I’d be lying if I said this was easy. The toughest part is that when my mom was finally able to say something well enough to be understood, it was amanda’s name. I know I shouldn’t care about something like that right now, but I… I just feel so conflicted.

Nate: No, it’s perfectly normal and human to have those feelings. Listen, I’m glad you talked to me about this. It’s times like this you need to lean on your friends.

Adam: I was just saying goodbye to an employee that already heard that I was leaving. But more importantly, how are you? What happened with dad?

Sally: Victor wants me to convince you to come back to newman media as ceo. And he implied that my days are numbered if I don’t comply. Victor did say that he had no problem with me staying on as coo, so I don’t know, maybe he does care about your well-being.

Adam: Yeah, well, I wish that were true, but this is nothing more than just a game on my father’s behalf, okay? And now he’s dragging you into it. My father’s problem is I’m not playing anymore. And he has made it perfectly clear where I stand in the family hierarchy, that I’m just a tool for nick and victoria to keep them in line. And I am sick of it. You’re not going anywhere. You’re not leaving newman media. I’m gonna take care of everything.

Sally: How are you gonna do that?

Adam: You don’t want to know.

Victoria: You do not expect me to believe that sally spectra is crucial to this company. Come on, daddy. I know better than that. Besides, I thought you said that I get to decide what happens with her.

Victor: I’m having second thoughts about her. Sally spectra could possibly lure adam back to running newman media.

Victoria: Well, I wouldn’t pin my hopes on adam coming back. He’s made his position very clear. You saw the anger in his eyes. Why do we not make a clean sweep and put someone new and fresh in that division?

Ashland: Oh, good. You’re both here. I have some things I have to say.

Victoria: [Gasps] Oh, wow! Are those for me?

Nick: Well, who else? They’re from me and Christian, saying, “welcome back to the big chair.”

Victoria: Oh, my goodness. They’re gorgeous! Thank you, Nicholas.

Nick: You got it.

Victoria: They really do brighten up the room.

Nick: Just like that big smile of yours. You’re back where you belong, Vic. And just so you know, I’ve almost forgiven you for letting us think that you chose Ashland over the family.

Victoria: Well, I really do appreciate your understanding. And I will be happy to make it up to you in the form of corporate perks, if and when you agree to accept my job offer.

Nick: Yeah… um… about that.

Victoria: Oh, no. Please don’t tell me that these flowers are your way of letting me down easy.

Nick: It’s my way of sucking up to the new boss. I’ve thought about it, Victoria: [Gasps] Oh, wow! Are those for me?

Victoria: Yes!

Diane: When your daddy was your age, ice cream was his absolute favorite food. He could eat it till it was coming out of his ears.

Harrison: Really?

Diane: No, not — not really. That’s just an expression that means that he loved it — a lot. I think he would have had ice cream at every meal if I let him.

Harrison: Me too.

Diane: [Laughs] Me three

Kyle: Phyllis, hi. Glad I ran into you. We haven’t had time for one-on-one since you engineered this truce with my mother.

Phyllis: Oh. Oh, my gosh. Do one nice thing, and everybody has to know about it, right?

Kyle: I know it must have been hard for you, taking the high road.

Phyllis: You should know something. I take the high road on a daily basis. I run a hotel, and that’s why I have happy employees and my rooms are filled — because I take the high road. See, I treat people how I want to be treated. You know, the only reason I’m actually talking to your mother at all, it’s an act of mercy.

Kyle: Well, I have to thank you for making the effort.

Phyllis: Sure. And you should know that it was I — it was I — who convinced your father to let you decide whether you wanted your mother back in your life or not.

Kyle: Well, I — I didn’t realize that. I appreciate it.

Phyllis: Sure. And all of this, all of these niceties, it’s not gonna go beyond superficial politeness for me. So what that means is take me off your invite list for your next celebration of all things diane jenkins.

Summer: I know a little boy who cannot stop talking about wanting to spend more time with you. Hope your new job doesn’t keep you too busy for playdates with harrison.

Diane: Oh, that all depends on my bosses.

[ Both laugh ]

Summer: You seem distracted. Is something bothering you?

Diane: Oh, uh, no. Everything’s great. In fact, I’ve been jotting down some ideas for how to introduce marchetti to jabot’s customer base. Now, don’t say no until you give it some thought, but what would you think about publicity stunts? Here, have a seat, and I will tell you all about it.

Summer: I wish that I could, but I am actually meeting someone. And I hope that you don’t take this the wrong way, but I think it would be best for everyone if you two don’t cross paths.

Traci: Hey, allie. Listen, it’s such a beautiful day out, I think I’m gonna go out in the garden and do some writing. Would you care to join me? Allie?

Allie: Oh, hey, traci. Sorry. I didn’t know you were here.

Traci: Wow. You were a million miles away.

Allie: Yeah. I get into this hyperfocus mode when I read. I’m sorry.

Traci: Oh, don’t apologize. That’s a fantastic quality in a person. In fact, I owe my entire career to good readers. So, tell me, what has your attention?

Allie: Well, my internship at jabot starts this afternoon. It’s just orientation, but I wanted to prepare.

Traci: So you have already started doing research. Wow. At that rate, you’re going to be on the board of directors by next week.

[ Both laugh ]

Allie: Stop, traci.

Traci: Listen, in all seriousness, I know I don’t work there, but I am on the board, and I know a lot about jabot, so if you have any questions…

Allie: You know, I do, actually. But it’s not about the company.

Traci: Okay. Ask away.

Alliei do: T mean to gossip, but what is going on with jack and phyllis? Are they a couple?

Nick: I’m sure you’re all wondering why I called you here today. Don’t look at me like that. It’s nothing bad.

Noah: All right, well, I am glad that you called this family meeting ’cause there’s something I’d like to discuss, too.

Faith: Okay, everyone lay your news on the table on the count of three.

Noah: And then it buckles under the immense weight of it all.

Nick: All right, mr. Big talker, why don’t you go first, then?

Noah: No, please. Age before beauty.

Nick: Well, sharon thought it’d be a good idea to do this. Maybe you should referee.

Sharon: I am just an innocent bystander. This is all you.

Nick: All right. Um, first some really great news. Your aunt victoria is back in town where she belongs.

Noah: I’m glad to hear it.

Faith: I knew she’d come home. That really is cool news and everything but not “let’s take the family out for coffee” kind of news.

Noah: Yeah. What she said. You’re being kind of weird.

Faith: I smell fear. Whatever the news is, just say it. Get it out.

Nick: Your aunt has offered me a job at newman, which I accepted. So I’m gonna be dusting off the power suit and doing the coo thing again. What do you guys think? To help prevent bleeding gums,

provided by…

Nick: All right, somebody say something.

Faith: Working at newman again — it’s not what we expected.

Noah: No, not at all.

Faith: But we’re happy for you, if this is what you really want. And you’ve thought about it, all the ramifications, what that will mn for everyone?

Nick: Yeah, I have.

Faith: And it’s worth it? It’s something that will make you happy this time?

Nick: I think it will.

Faith: Okay. Well, as long as you’re doing it for the right reasons, then we’re happy for you. Right, noah?

Noah: Yeah. Yeah, I mean, we should all do things that we enjoy, but I thought new hope made you happy.

Nick: Still does.

Noah: So what’s gonna happen to it, then? The urban-garden project is just starting up. We still need to allocate all the funds that we got in rey’s name. Are you just gonna walk away from that?

Nick: No, no. Gonna leave it in some very capable hands. Yours.

Faith: Wow. Mr. Bigmouth is actually speechless.

Nick: Look, we’ve worked side by side for a while now. You really know the ropes. You’ve impressed a lot of people, especially me. And it means a lot knowing that it’s gonna stay in the family.

Faith: Way to get a promotion, noah. Congrats.

Nick: So,hat do you think?

Noah: Well, it’s, uh… it’s easy to see why you love new hope. You’ve put your heart and soul into providing things for people that we’ve all taken for granted. A home, job, security and a place to grow and thrive. And, yeah, of course, man. I’m gonna do the best I can to keep things moving smoothly. I won’t let you down.

Nick: I know you won’T. I’ve never been prouder of you, bud. So that is my news. What’s yours? What’d you want to discuss?

Traci: You want to know the status of the relationship between jack and phyllis.

Allie: When they were in L.A., They were so solid, and it just feels like everything’s changed a little. I mean, phyllis never visits, even though summer lives here.

Traci: Okay. You want to know this because…?

Allie: Because… because phyllis asked me to coffee yesterday, and we’re not close. I mean, in the venn diagram of our lives, there’s one point of intersection, and it’s jack.

Traci: True.

Allie: And so then it got me thinking, right? What does she want with me? And then it made sense. It was a fishing expedition to get information about jack.

Traci: [ Sighs ] Okay. All right, look, it does seem like their relationship may have cooled off a bit, but, honey, if you have any query about the status of jack’s relationship to phyllis, I think that better be directed at jack.

Allie: Right. Of course. I didn’t mean to overstep. I — it’s really none of my business.

Traci: No, allie, allie, listen, you’re a part of this family. It makes perfect sense. It is completely natural that you would want to figure out how everything works together and how it doesn’T. But in this case, I do not want to speak for my brother.

[ Chuckles ]

Kyle: To be fair, the whole celebration was totally impromptu and my mother’s idea entirely.

Phyllis: Of course it was.

Kyle: I know it’s going to take more than just the peace agreement to make us one big, happy family. And my mother pushed things by inviting you to join the toast to her new position. I’ll accept the win. You agreed to steer clear of her.

Phyllis: Right. Right. Well, I’ll tell you, this truce will not be broken by me. Okay? I will not be the one to break it. I doubt this detente will last much longer. Your mother will eventually show her true colors. Sooner than later, I think, because she’s not working with you at marchetti.

Kyle: Well, I think having a job will give her a purpose.

Phyllis: Kyle…

[ Groans ] It’s lovely. It really is lovely that you want to give your mom a second chance. But things will deteriorate. They will. And I want you to know that I will be there for you to pick up the pieces. And I will not be the one in town whispering, “I told you so.”

Kyle: You don’t think that’s hypocritical, painting my mother as self-serving and duplicitous?

Phyllis: What do you possibly — what is your point?

Kyle: Didn’t you just show your true colors when you used my father to mark your territory in front of my mother?

Diane: You must be waiting for phyllis. And despite our ceasefire, you think it’d be best if we steered clear of each other?

Summer: Actually, I’m waiting for my grandmother.

Diane: Oh. Nikki, of course. Well, between us, the war rages on.

Summer: Look, I am sorry about this. I hate that it’s so complicated and awkward.

Diane: No, it’s all right. You’re just doing your best to manage a difficult situation.

Summer: I just think it’s safer for us to avoid any conflict, if we can.

Diane: Well, I respect that. I’m not afraid of coming face to face with nikki. It’s inevitable that we’re going to run into each other, so we all just need to learn to deal with it.

Summer: I agree, in theory, but…

Diane: Okay, I get it. You don’t want a confrontation in a public place. It’s bad P.R. No, it — it’s fine. I don’t want to put you in a difficult situation, so I will just take my coffee to-go.

Summer: Thank you.

Diane: Mm-hmm.

Summer: I do want to hear more about your ideas, though. Can we meet at the office later today?

Diane: Oh, absolutely. You won’t be disappointed.

Summer: All right. I’ll see you then.

Diane: Sure.

Diane: Hello, nikki. It’s been too long.

Nikki: Not nearly long enough.

Diane: I was just on my way out.

Nikki: Don’t let me stop you.

Diane: Summer’s on the patio. I was warned that you would be here and I should make myself scarce.

Nikki: Well, I’m glad you tried to avoid me, but sorry that you failed so miserably.

Diane: Oh, I — I wasn’t intimidated. I’m simply doing a favor for my daughter-in-law. I’m not leaving out of deference to you.

>>Ikki: The only leaving I want to hear about is when you finally leave town.

Diane: Haven’t you heard? Kyle and summer hired me at marchetti. I’m not going anywhere.

Nikki: Oh, that’s a shame. I had such high hopes for that company. Now they’ve ensured that they’re going to fail.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] For the last time, nikki, I’m sorry. I truly am. I hate what I put you through, and I hate who I was back then. But I am not her anymore.

Nikki: Spare me.

Diane: It’s the truth. We make mistakes, we learn, we move on. I’m sure you have some regrets about some of your past actions. That’s where I am right now.

Nikki: Just because you claim to be sorry doesn’t mean that the people you have hurt have to forgive you. And as I have said to you before, no one wants you here.

Diane: Kyle does, and summer and jack have been supportive. You know, I’m not going to blow the chance to be near my son by running away from your wrath or anyone else’S. So you have two choices. You can accept me, or you can just find a way to pretend that I’m not around.

Phyllis: Um, I’m sorry. What are you insinuating? That I used your father?

Kyle: That didn’t come out the way I intended it to.

Phyllis: That it came out at all is completely disgusting. And that your father would involve you in something so personal is so inappropriate.

Kyle: Even though you told summer about it.

Phyllis: You don’t know the facts, kyle.

Kyle: I know enough, and i trust my dad. It’s clear that you used him to prove a point to my mother.

Phyllis: Okay. I care deeply about you and your father. That’s why I’m so incensed that you would allow this woman to come back into your life with open arms. She is evil. She will hurt you and everyone else in this town.

Kyle: It is very clear about how you feel about my mother. There is really no reason for you to remind me yet again. I was trying to be gracious and thank you because I thought you had had a change of attitude. But it is clear that this truce is just for show.

Noah: No, forget about me. Faith is the one we should be toasting to.

Faith: Not that I don’t want everyone celebrating me, but why would you say that?

Faith: Well, you’re going to college soon. And believe it or not, we’re gonna miss you.

Nick: Mm. I don’t know. Kind of looking forward to packing her up and getting her out of here, you know?

Sharon: He’s gonna be crying like a baby the minute he drops you off at your dorm room.

Nick: Oh, like you’re not gonna miss her.

Sharon: She knows I’m gonna miss her, but she’s gonna be back for visits.

Faith: Try and stop me.

Noah: You’re the one who’s gonna be lonely without us all in your business all the time.

Faith: See, is this the part where I’m supposed to pretend that I’m so nervous about going to university of michigan that you have to twist my arm to go? Trust me, I am so ready.

Nick: Whoa, whoa. We all have feelings here.

Faith: I didn’t mean it like that. I’ve been going over the course descriptions, and I cannot wait to register.

Noah: What looks good to you?

Faith: Well, I couldn’t decide between business and marketing as my major, so I’m thinking, why not do both?

Sharon: Two majors. That won’t be too much wk.

Faith: I’ve mapped out my requirements over the next four years, and it’s totally doable. And now that dad’s back in the family business, I’ll do my summer internships at newman.

Nick: I’ll let the H.R. Department know we got a rock-star intern on the way.

Faith: I was thinking that i could work in a different division for each summer so that I can get a good overview for the company, starting with the finance department, since that’s like the core of the company. Money is power, right?

Nick: How is this aspiring shark our daughter?

Sharon: We should’ve never let victor teach her how to play chess. I think she was paying way too much attention.

Faith: Don’t worry. I’m going to be an ethical mogul. I believe that corporations need to balance profits with social responsibility. So pat yourselves on the back for raising me to be a decent human being.

Nick: Good job, sharon.

Sharon: You too, nick.

Faith: Maybe my first summer project can be coming up with a plan for newman to improve each of the cities where it has offices.

Nick: It’s actually a great idea.

Faith: And by the time i graduate, I’ll know the exact department which would be the best fit for me.

Sharon: Poor kid. Directionless, has no idea what she wants out of life.

Noah: Yeah. Why stop at four years? Why don’t you just plan out the next 10?

Faith: Well, when you know what you want, why waste time?

Diane: Allie, how wonderful to see you.

Allie: Hello, diane.

Diane: Harrison left his stuffed fox in my car after our playdate, and I know how much he loves it. Is he here, by any chance?

Allie: I think he’s out with his nanny somewhere at the children’s museum, I think. I’ve honestly been so busy preparing for my first day at jabot that he could be on the moon, for all I know.

[ Both laugh ]

Diane: Oh, well, I’m sure you’re so good at blocking things out.

Allie: Yeah.

Diane: I wish I had that ability.

Allie: I get like that sometimes when I’m reading. Traci was talking to me earlier, and I barely heard her.

Diane: Oh, traci — is she the only abbott sibling who’s home?

Allie: Yeah, at the moment.

Diane: So jack is at the office.

Allie: Yeah. Yeah. You know, diane, why don’t you give me that fox? Then I’ll make sure harrison gets it.

Diane: Oh. You must be so excited about your new job.

Allie: Yeah, I’m very grateful for an opportunity.

Diane: I know the feeling. I can’t wait to dive into my new position at marchetti.

Allie: The abbotts are a very generous people.

Diane: And just think, if i hadn’t bought your father’s house, you wouldn’t even know you were an abbott.

Allie: Yeah. In spite of all the subterfuge, it all worked out.

Diane: Hmm. I guess you’re wondering what’s going to become of his house now that I’m setting down roots in genoa city. Well, I want you to know I have no intention of selling it. It’s there for you to use if you ever go back or even just want to visit. Any time. Just between us, you know what’s better than mopping?

Phyllis: Listen, we need to stop talking right now, or we’re gonna say something we regret.

Kyle: I will be civil and respectful, as far as your concerned, for the same reasons you’ll pretend to be able to coexist with my mother — for summer. But make no mistake, I believe with all of my heart that my mother is coming from a good place, that she is deserving of another chance and she is remorseful.

Phyllis: It’s because you were little when she left. You have absolutely no history with your mother.

Kyle: Look, this is my chance to try to have a loving relationship with her, an opportunity I never thought i would have. So if you get in the way of that, I will do whatever is necessary to protect my mother.

Phyllis: Whatever is necessary. Wow. Let me tell you, that is unfortunate because that is a choice that you and my daughter will regret.

Summer: Hey! Do you wanna go halfsies on —

Nikki: Why on earth would you give that woman a job?

Summer: Hello to you, too. I guess you ran into diane.

Nikki: My darling… whatever entry-level job you may have given her, she’s not qualified. I’m sure jabot requires their applicants to be trustworthy. In fact, is it even legal to hire her, given that she was declared dead at all?

Summer: Do you foresee a time, far, far into the future, where you might just actually forgive diane?

Nikki: No, absolutely not. Honey, you are looking at her through rose-colored glasses. We have to be on our guard at all times. Wherever that woman goes, she brings trouble. And deep down, I think you know that. But you love your husband, and you want to support him.

Summer: Of course I do.

Nikki: But you see, you’re playing right into her hands. She is a master of destruction. Like — like a snake that hypnotizes its prey before devouring it. So if you truly do want to support and protect kyle and the company, you need to open his eyes to who diane really is.

Allie: Thank you for the offer, but that house and that part of my life is of the past now, and I really want to focus on the now. I have this wonderful new job at jabot and also this great group of friends and family. And, you know, everyone has been really welcoming.

Diane: That must be nice. I, on the other hand, haven’t received such a warm reception. I am constantly reminded of my history and how many enemies I have.

Allie: You know the abbotts have been quite cordial, considering your circumstances.

Diane: Well, that’s true about jack and kyle. However, summer’s side of the family has been less accepting, to say the least.

Allie: Phyllis in particular?

Diane: She’s called a truce. But how much can I trust that? I mean, I’m sure you know all about phyllis and me.

Allie: Yeah, I — I’ve heard things, but, you know, I’ve decided it’s better off for me not to deep dive and learn more.

Diane: Well, if the chemistry thing doesn’t work, you could have an amazing career in diplomacy. But you’re right, you’re right. The past is the past, and we might as well look forward to the future.

Allie: Great. Well, I really ought to get ready for work, so…

Diane: You know, I don’t know if you’re aware of the details, but you probably know that I’m at the top of phyllis’s most hated list. It’s because of our history with jack.

Allie: Yeah.

Diane: Has either of them mentioned it?

Allie: It’s just something I picked up on.

Diane: Oh. Well, you know, sadly, phyllis thinks of everything in terms of war. She, uh — she just finds the slightest infraction as an excuse to go into battle.

Allie: Yeah, I really don’t know her that well.

Diane: What am I doing? Going on and on about this when your life is in such a good place right now. You’ve got your grandfather and your aunts and your uncles and your cousins, and you’re about to start an exciting new career at jabot.

Allie: Which I really don’t want to be late for, so…

Diane: You know what’s cool is that I’m going to be a jabot, too, so maybe we can hang out.

Allie: I don’t know my schedule yet, but, yeah, maybe.

Diane: Huh. Okay, I get it. You’d like to keep me at a distance. You want to be careful and make sure you’re doing the right thing. You know, allie, I would suggest you have this same level of caution with phyllis, because that woman likes to use people to get what she wants. Okay, this is a freezer, not a time capsule.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Traci: Well, diane.

Diane: Traci, hi. I was just leaving. I have held up allie for too long. I’ll see myself out.

Traci: Honey, did something happen? You are certainly not as upbeat as you were earlier.

Allie: I am getting the exact same uncomfortable feeling with diane that I had when I had coffee with phyllis.

Traci: Did either one of them say something specific to make you feel this way?

Allie: I just feel like they’re trying to buddy up with me to get information about jack, which honestly is hilarious because I don’t know anything. And even if I did, I would never, never share anything personal about my grandfather with anyone.

Traci: Intuitive and discreet. More really good qualities. Both of those women know better than to involve you in the middle of their petty little drama.

[ Sighs ] They should know, if they really cared about jack, to get you in the middle of their mess is just going to make him angry. Honey, my advice is to steer clear of both diane and phyllis.

Allie: Traci, diane and phyllis, they don’t scare me. I only care because I don’t want my grandfather to get hurt.

Traci: Protective, too. You and I have that in common. Honey, I promise you don’t have to worry about jack. He can take care of himself. And if he doesn’t, there’s always ashley and I step in and help.

Allie: And now you have me as backup.

Traci: [ Chuckles ]

Summer: I know that you only want the best for us, but I just don’t think that it’s my place to tell kyle how to feel about his mother. And, frankly, diane has been on her best behavior.

Nikki: Well, I’m sure she has, but that won’t last. And then you will change your mind about how to handle her.

Summer: Don’t you think that we should give her the chance to prove herself?

Nikki: Darling, you just have to trust me on this. Very soon, something’s gonna set her off. And when it does, she will reveal her true colors. And the only thing that will drive her away for good is kyle’s complete rejection. Now, if there is anything I can do to speed that process along, please let me know.

Summer: Can we talk about something more pleasant?

Nikki: Like how proud I am of you for everything you’ve achieved at marchetti?

Summer: Oh, thank you, grandma. Kyle and I are so excited about everything that we have planned for the company.

Nick: Look, I know we have a lot of irons in the fire at new hope right now. My timing definitely could have been better, but I know it’s nothing you can’t handle.

Noah: You really think so?

Nick: I have 100% confidence in you. Everybody has seen what great work you’ve done, how quickly you’ve learned. You’re amazing.

Sharon: And you said that you would talk to the project leaders and donors to set things up for noah.

Nick: Absolutely. It feels so good knowing it’s in great hands.

Faith: When I’m not interning at newman with dad, I can put in some hours at new hope. And if you don’t feel comfortable bossing people around, I can coach you.

Sharon: She’s not kidding. You saw the way she took control of mariah’s wedding.

Nick: Well, now it’s your turn to take the lead. I mean, isn’t this great? It feels like everybody’s doing what they’re meant to be doing.

Faith: Proud papa moment.

Nick: You got it.

Noah: Hey, actually, I got to return a call, so I’ll be right back.

[ Sighs ]

This is john.

Allie: Hi. Here, as requested.

Noah: Hey.

Allie: Hi.

Noah: Thanks for coming. I won’t take up too much of your time. I know it’s your first day at jabot, so.

Allie: I could use a little fresh air before orientation. What’s up?

Noah: My dad has decided to step down at new hope to go back to newman, and he’s asked me to take over.

Allie: Noah, that’s huge. What a — what a big vote of confidence for you. And you look miserable.

Summer: Mom. Hi. How are you?

Phyllis: Good. Good. Just taking a coffee break. I’ll let you two catch up.

Nikki: Oh, no, no, no, wait, wait. I would like to get your point of view on something.

Phyllis: Okay. About what?

Nikki: Diane. Now that victoria is home, I can focus all my energy on driving her out of town.

Phyllis: Oh. What would that look like? I mean, hypothetallyicpeaking, of course.

Nikki: Well, I would have someone investigate as to what diane was really doing during those years she was supposedly reinventing herself.

Phyllis: Yeah, when she was dead.

Nikki: Exactly.

Phyllis: Well, that is an interesting approach.

Nikki: I know that I would find something worthwhile, something to prove to certain people that she is not to be trusted.

Phyllis: Okay. Well, uh…

Nikki: Here, here, sit down.

Phyllis: Um, you know, just talking here. We’re just talking. What can I do to help?

Nikki: Well, this is one of the few times that we are on the same side.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm.

Nikki: Maybe we could pool our resources.

Summer: No! Has the world turned completely upside down? You two do not work together for anything, ever. So please, jt stop it. And need I remind you that plotting against someone that you have a truce with is really bad.

Nikki: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. You have a truce with that woman?

Noah: I love the mission at new hope and everything tt the organization accomplishes. That part has been really gratifying. But, you know, I took the gig when I just got back to town and I was at loose ends. I thought it could be something temporary that I do while I try to figure out what was next. I never intended for it to be a permanent career path. I mean, it’s not corporate, but I still feel like an outsider there.

Allie: How long have you felt like you didn’t belong?

Noah: Since around the time that we met, more or less. So if you think about it, this is kind of all your fault.

Allie: Me? Do not blame me for your career crisis.

Noah: Come on, you know your thing. It’s chemistry. You’re good at it. You’re passionate. You’re totally unapologetic.

Allie: Why would I be apologetic about my love for chemistry?

Noah: Well, because it totally amplifies your quirkiness. But it’s okay. It’s okay. I like it. My point is, you have helped me realize that I’ve been trying to be something that I’m not.

Allie: But you don’t want to be a colossal disappointment to your parents.

Noah: Yeah.

Allie: The way that your jokes are to the rest of the world.

Noah: Yes, exactly. Thank you for that. I want to t back to who I actually am. And I was going to let them know today that I felt like I needed to move on, but…

Allie: But your dad sprung the news first.

Noah: Yeah. And everyone was so happy for him. I didn’t want to be a buzzkill. And then on top of that, my younger sister, faith, who at the ripe old age of 17 already has her entire life planned. I mean, seriously, you should have seen it. She has everything figured out. Makes me feel like I’m wasting time.

Allie: Do you mind if i deconstruct this?

Noah: Wouldn’t have it any other way.

Allie: Okay. First of all, your sister is 17. Who the heck knows what she’s gonna do with her life? And second, noah, you have done lot of cool things with your life. You have. And you need to trust yourself. Alright? If you don’t want to stay at new hope, then don’T. Think about it this way. Your job is probably someone else’s dream job. And if you leave, you’ll probably let someone else fulfill their destiny.

Noah: So it’s almost like I’d be doing the world a favor by moving on.

Allie: Go pursue your passion relentlessly. And if you get tired of doing that, then move on to the next thing.

Noah: Yeah. Yeah, I think you’re right. Now I just have to figure out how to relay that to my father.

Allie: [ Sighs ] Well, he seems pretty open andcool.

Noah: No, he is. Don’t get me wrong, it’s just leaving new hope for newman was a really big decision for him, and it was one that he only felt comfortable doing because he thought I’d be taking over. So I can’t help but feel like I’m leaving him in the lurch.

Allie: Does finding a new direction mean you’re thinking of moving away from genoa city? (Vo) beneful knows a full life doesn’t just happen…

Nick: So what are your first semester classes looking like, kid?

Faith: Pretty basic, but there’s one that’s caught my eye.

Sharon: Yeah? What is it?

Faith: How to mastermind a takeover of the family business?

Sharon: Do you hear what our business major has in store?

Nick: She might be talking about crimson lights.

Faith: Definitely talking about newman.

Nick: Oh, really? Maybe I’ll take some classes then, too, so I’m ready for when you come for my job. Hey. Sharon, how come you’re not as upset as I am? Our little girl is turning

rutasess as her grandfather.

Sharon: I just can’t shake this feeling that noah is a little bit ambivalent about taking over at new hope.

Nick: He’s fine. He was asking me questions about it.

Sharon: But what if the real underlying question is, “do I really want to do this” instead of “whaleadt ship approach should I take during this exciting transition?”

Nick: I don’t kno I mean, that kid’s head’s been all over the place for weeks. What do you think, faith? I feel like you know him better than anybody.

Faith: He’s an adult. If he doesn’t want the job, he’ll tell you.

Nick: Listen to our brilliant daughter. I think you’re overthinking this, sharon.

Noah: Leave town? Me? No way. I got too many reasons to stay now.

Allie: Okay, so does that — does that mean you’re gonna go back to making art?

Noah: I don’t think I can figure out my future until i straighten out my present.

Allie: Yeah. Take it step-by-step. You’re gonna make the right decision.

Noah: I thank you for the vote of confidence. It’s refreshing. I feel like my family’s always questioning my choices.

Allie: Noah, I think you know what you want. You just got to listen to yourself. I mean, I’ve heard plenty of opinions from you about everything.

Noah: Well, I know I don’t want to move backwards in any way. Maybe you can help me figure it out.

Yeah, I would like that. Very much so.

I promised that I’d stick to my truce with diane, and that’s what I’m gonna do.

Nikki: Are you telling me that you have forgiven her?

Phyllis: It’s not about forgiveness, nikki.

Summer: She’s doing it for me, grandma. She made a commitment to keep the peace for my and kyle’s sake.

Nikki: Phyllis, over the years, you have done some questionable, upsetting things, but this is by far the most shocking. I don’t understand how you can stand by and watch that woman wheedle her way into your daughter’s life after everything she’s done.

Phyllis: I know. I know. I know. I cannot do this. I cannot do this.

Summer: Mom, please.

Phyllis: No, no, I can’T. She’s right. That woman will be your downfall. And working with her, it’s a horrible idea. We have to get her out of town.

Summer: Mom, she is kyle’s mother.

Phyllis: I do not care. I do not care. Who loves you more than us? Nobody, summer. Summer, that woman is horrible. She is evil and she’s dangerous. And I’m not gonna keep on pretending she isn’T.

[ Knock on door ]

Victoria: [ Gasps ] Oh, wow!

I’ve thought about it, vic, and I’m ready to rejoin the team, and maybe this time it sticks for good.

Victoria: Yes!

Nikki: That was delicious.

Victor: You know something? I can see that you have your appetite back. That makes me happy.

Nikki: It’s amazing what can happen when your stomach is no longer tied up in knots. I slept better last night than i have in weeks.

Victor: My sweet baby, do you know how happy it makes me to know that victoria’s back? I can almost think back to the normal times, you know?

Nikki: Well, things may be even better than before. I mean, whoever thought that victoria would come back and invite nicholas to help run the company? And even if he doesn’t accept the position, it’s just wonderful to see them so close again.

Victor: And I keep on hoping — I really do; it would make me very happy — to see them all work for the company.

Nikki: I know it. I can understand that. I mean, it’s been your damre practically since they were born that they would both run the company. And it might just be happening.

Victor: Well, only one problem, potential problem. I want to know where adam fits into all this.

Nikki: Well, for your sake, i hope he comes around and gets over his disappointment over losing the ceo position twice.

Victor: Yep.

Michael: Hello, newmans!

Victor: Mr. Baldwin, please have a seat.

Michael: Ah! Thank you. How are you today, nikki?

Nikki: I’m just fine. I’m afraid I’m going to have to go.

Victor: Darling, it’s early.

Nikki: Well, I want to check in with my new investigator, who’s looking into diane’s time in L.A.

Victor: Oh.

Michael: How’s that going for you?

Nikki: I don’t care to divulge that information, considering your ongoing association with that woman.

Michael: Fair enough.

Nikki: Thank you again for a lovely breakfast. I will see you at the office later.

Victor: Don’t forget this.

Nikki: Okay.

Victor: Okay.

Nikki: Bye-bye!

Victor: Bye-bye, now. So…

Michael: I have news.

Victor: What news?

Michael: Ashland chartered a jet from laguardia to o’hare. The plan was to have him tailed as soon as he landed. He gave him the slip.

Victor: Ah. You think he knows he’s being followed?

Michael: Our man wasn’t sure. So, we don’t know if he’s still in chicago.

Victor: Or on his way here.

Billy: The way I see it, chelsea coming on board to critique my podcast is a win for everybody.

Lily: How do you figure that?

Billy: Well, it gives her something to do, something fun to be a part of. I get fresh ears to bounce ideas off of, and it takes the pressure off of you.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, I do like encouraging you more than being your critic.

Billy: Well, believe me. She relishes that role.

Lily: Now, wait. You’re talking about your personal podcast, right? She doesn’t know about “the grinning soul.”

Billy: No, no, no. We didn’t talk about that at all, although I did have a conversation with victoria, and we both know that she has her feelings about that. She asked me to do her a favor.

Lily: What kind of favor?

Billy: She asked me to do a podcast on ashland… about everything he put her through, about the phony cancer, the lies, all of it.

Lily: Well, you — you didn’t agree to that, did you?

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Lily: Billy, did you?

Diane: When your daddy was your age, ice cream was his absolute favorite food. He could eat it till it was coming out of his ears.

Harrison: Really?

Diane: No, not — not really. That’s just an expression that means that he loved it — a lot. I think he would have had ice cream at every meal if I let him.

Harrison: Me too.

Diane: [ Laughs ] Me three! Mmm! Ready to shine from the inside out?

Billy: I didn’t commit to anything with victoria, and i made it very clear that I’m gonna have to discuss it with you because clearly there’s risk.

Lily: Yeah, there’s a lot of risk. Ashland could sic his lawyers on us all over again.

Billy: Absolutely.

Lily: Well, good. I’m glad you’re taking this into consideration after everything that happened at chanccomm.

Billy: Oh, believe me. I do not want that to happen again. I think we are in a different situation now than we were at chanccomm. That whole thing? That was a setup by adam, and we had a very unreliable source. We didn’t even mean to publish that article. We were hacked. Now, with victoria giving us the information, she’s not gonna set us up the same way gaines did. She wants this information out there.

Lily: Okay, I’m gonna stop you right there. I mean, the fact that victoria is the one driving this is not the selling point that you think it is.

Victor: Ashland locke giving our people the slip? Bad news. He’s enraged right now. Better keep our eyes open.

Michael: What’s it gonna take to finally end this? Ashland’s already lost control of his company. He’s lost all the money you gave him. His marriage is kaput, and there’s a restraining order keeping him away from harrison.

Victor: He has lost at every turn. He’s dangerous right now.

Michael: Victor…

Victor: What?

Michael: …How do you want to handle the situation?

Victor: [ Exhales ] I have an idea. And I think you’re the one who will make it work.

Victoria: Have you told mom and dad about your decision?

Nick: Not yet. I wanted to talk to you first. I just wasn’t sure what kind of role you had in mind for me.

Victoria: I’m hoping that you’ll agree to step in as my coo. Mom’s already coming back as my co-ceo. So, it’ll be the three of us at the top, running the whole company together.

Nick: I’m cool with that. I can’t imagine adam is gonna get behind it. If anything, it’s just gonna him make resent us even more.

Victoria: I’m gonna leave it to dad to mollify him.

Nick: I mean, it had to hurt to find out that dad was just using him to lure you back. And now dad’s asking you to find some way to take some of the sting out of it.

Sally: I want to know the minute he signs. Right. Thanks.

Adam: Well done!

Sally: [ Sighs ] If he signs… it would be a tremendous get for our marketing team.

Adam: Look. Don’t worry about that. You need to hire a coo so you can focus on the big picture. Where do things stand with chloe?

Sally: Well, she seems interested, but I haven’t wanted to reach out to her again because I’m just trying to see how everything’s gonna play out here.

Adam: What are you concerned about? If you think I’m gonna wind up back in this office, and you’re gonna be coo again, I told you I’m through playing my father’s games.

Sally: I know what you said. But I also remember when victor sold newman media to victoria, you were hurt and offended. And you hated the thought of reporting to your sister. And then, after you calmed down, you decided you could live with it, after all.

Adam: And what? You think I’m just going to cave this time, too?

Sally: Ask yourself this. Are you really ready to walk away from the company and your family… permanently? (Rose h) smoking caused my lung cancer.

Adam: I will not be ousting you from your position. I would not do that to you.

Sally: But I would understand if you did.

Adam: Hey, it’S…it’s not happening, okay? You deserve this opportunity. You’re going to do amazing things here, and I would never, ever want to rob you of that. What’s wrong?

Sally: It’s just all new to me…

[ Laughs, sniffles ] …Someone having so much faith in my abilities. But it is enough that you feel that way — honest. You do not have to make this sacrifice for me.

Adam: Hey, look. It is not a sacrifice at all. Frankly, it’s a relief. I won’t be forced to deal with these people’s crap anymore.

Sally: [ Exhales ] You say that now.

Adam: I mean it. Every time victoria looks my way, I can see the condescension in her eyes, the contempt. And nikki? Oh, she’s not much different with her knowing, little smirk of hers. And dad, nick? They just stand there. They don’t do anything. Far be it from them to say a kind word or come to my defense. I just — I swear to god, if i don’t get away from these people, I feel like I’m going to explode.

Sally: Don’t take this the wrong way, but how much of this rage was sparked by the things that ashland said to you? Look. I know that you’re disappointed in the way things turned out. But I don’t want to see you get so caught up in thoughts of revenge that you lose sight of what’s best for you.

Adam: Look. I know what I’m doing, okay?

Sally: Adam, look at me. Please? I need you to listen to me. Ashland doesn’t give a damn about you. He does not have your best interests at heart. I do. So, please don’t blow me off.

Victoria: I am not responsible for what dad did to adam while I was gone. Can we please talk about something else?

Nick: Okay. What have you heard from ashland?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Another one of my least-favorite topics. I haven’T. I haven’t heard anything from ashland. And I don’t expect to. The last thing I said to him was that I wanted him to disappear from my life. And he knew that I meant it.

Nick: Okay. Any unresolved legal issues that might give him excuse to reach out?

Victoria: I have seen to it that there is nothing connecting us amoreny I even took the last few things that he left at my house, and i had them boxed up and put in storage. It’s over. What? You don’t believe me?

Nick: I’m just wondering if you’re underestimating how vindictive ashland can be. It’s kind of what he’s known for. You embarrassed him badly. You took most of his fortune. Ashland is not the kind of guy that’s gonna shrug something like this off.

Victoria: Nicholas, you didn’t see the look on his face when I left him in new york. He was crushed. He was utterly devastated. And I’m pretty sure that he’s sick and tired of getting burned by the newmans… although it is going to happen at least once more.

Lily: Look — I still have a very bad taste in my mouth from when victoria tried to use you to bring down adam.

Billy: I understand that, lily. I really do. And if we go through with this — if — this is not simply for victoria’s benefit, okay? I believe that the world needs to know about ashland locke. I always have, because he’s gonna find another victim.

Lily: Yeah, I mean, I’m sure.

Billy: That’s what guys like this do. They find someone to control and to manipulate. And as far as the world’s considered, he’s the victim here. He’s dying of cancer. He’s on death’s door. And it’s his wife that took advantage of him, that stole his company and abandoned him because that is exactly the way he’s gonna sell it to everyone.

Lily: I mean, look. I don’t like it, either, okay? As a cancer survivor, I don’t like the fact that he took advantage of people’s genuine sympathy. But it doesn’t mean that “the grinning soul” should be the one to put that out there.

Billy: Okay, well, what if i talk to amanda about it to make sure that we are in the clear legally? Like you, I don’t want to end up in the same position that we did at chanccomm, and with victoria being the one to give us the information. Will you be okay with that?

Lily: I mean…

[ Sighs ] I do think that people should know who ashland really is.

Billy: Amen to that.

Lily: And, you know, maybe we’re the only ones in the position to expose him. So… okay, look. If amanda gives the thumbs-up, then sure. Go for it.

Diane: Oh, harrison, look. There’s some of your friends. Do you want to go play? Alright, but you need to stay where I can see you, okay?

Harrison: Okay.

Diane: Okay. Be careful! Ashland. What are you doing here? I thought you were out of town, and you’re not supposed to be anywhere near harrison.

Ashland: Yeah, yeah, I know that. And it’s not gonna be an issue if no one knows I’m here. I just… I miss my son, diane, so much. I just want to see him. That’s all, even if it’s from a distance.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

[Ziploc tab zip opening]

Victoria: The world needs to know what a bastard ashland truly is. So, I asked billy to use his resources to publicize the whole “I’m dying of cancer” scam.

Nick: What?

Victoria: Not directly. Chancellor has an anonymous podcaster that he can use to distance himself from it.

Nick: Vic, I really wish before making a move like this, you would have talked to us first.

Victoria: I’m surprised that you have any objections. I mean, it’s been your instinct from the get-go to investigate ashland and to expose his lies.

Nick: Of course I want the truth, but making this public is gonna come with a cost. You know that. People are going to question why we couldn’t see through ashland or how we could put the company at risk.

Victoria: To me, the real danger is ashland raising more money and starting a new company and coming after us that way. I want everyone to know just who and what he is. I want to completely discredit him. No one should trust him as a business partner — ever.

Nick: I-I get it. I’m just worried that this could backfire badly, in a way that you don’t see coming.

Victoria: O, ye of little faith. I think I’ve proven that I know exactly how to handle ashland locke.

Diane: I-I think you should go.

Ashland: I will.

Diane: Now, ashland!

Ashland: I will. I just… can’t I just talk to him, just for a minute? No one has to know.

Diane: What?! Until harrison blurts something out, and then I would be in big trouble.

Ashland: I’ll explain to him that it has to be our secret.

Diane: Ashland, I-I feel for you, but I am not in a position to help you. I am in the beginning, fragile stages of reconnecting with my own son.

Ashland: Yeah, I know that.

Diane: I am not going to jeopardize that. If I did something to betray kyle’s trust, that would be the end of it.

Ashland: Diane, please. I’m just asking you —

Diane: I’m sorry, but the answer is no.

Sally: I’m on your side, adam. If you believe in nothing else, believe that. It sucks, the way victor used you as bait to bring victoria home and then reinstated her as ceo five minutes later. And I know it feels even worse because you predicted it. But there is more than one way to respond to that, and it is really important that you choose a path that you’re not gonna regret. I’m just talking from experience because I’ve —

Adam: Baby, look. I know that you mean well. But nobody else understands what it’s like to be the newman black sheep, constantly rejected, and mistreated by my, what, so-called “next of kin”? Always feeling like I’m less than, no matter what I achieve? Okay, dad says I’m on equal footing with the rest of the kids, but it’s not true, and it will never be true.

Sally: Please don’t give up. Okay? Things did not work out for you in this case. Timing wasn’t right, but you have a brilliant business mind, and you are by far the best choice to run this company. And sooner or later, everyone else is gonna see what I already do. But if you give in to your anger, you’re gonna take yourself out of the running.

Adam: You see, that’s just the thing is I was never in the running. Ever since I came back here, I’ve been trying to do my best, to play by their rules, to become the best version of myself. But no matter how much effort i put in, it’s never enough rfo these people, okay? I’m done.

Sally: If you lash out at your family, I am afraid for you, adam. There’s bound to be blowback.

Adam: Well, c’est la vie, because right now all I can think about is how sweet it would be to get even.

Victor: Is that really how you feel, son? (Kid 1) where’s lucky?

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Victoria: So, the architect has the loading dock here, but i think it would do better on the south end instead.

Nick: I agree with you.

Nikki: What a sight to behold! Good morning, you two.

Victoria: Morning.

Nick: Hey, mom.

Nikki: Beautiful flowers. Nicholas, I hope you have good news for us.

Nick: [ Laughs ] You are looking at the new coo of newman enterprises.

Nikki: Oh! How wonderful! Welcome back!

Nick: Thanks. You two are gonna take it easy on me — right? — While I get reacclimated.

Victoria: What fun would that be?

Nikki: I am so looking forward to collaborating with both of you.

Nick: Biggest part of the draw for me coming back was getting to work with some of my favorite people every day.

Nikki: Well, I couldn’t be happier. And wait till your father hears. He’s gonna be so thrilled.

Victor: Sally, would you kindly excuse us?

Sally: Of course.

Victor: I want to encourage you to stay with our company. I would like you and your siblings to work together to increase the legacy of the newman family, newman business.

Adam: So, I take it to mean that nick accepted victoria’s offer?

Victor: He hasn’t given a definitive answer yet, no.

Adam: So, if he does take the job, nick will be working with victoria and nikki, setting the overall strategy for newman. Meanwhile, the expectation for me is to, what, stay here, manage my lone division?

Victor: When you worked at newman media as a standalone company, you were very happy, weren’t you? Now newman media has merged with chanccomm. The company has become even bigger. I would think that’s more appealing to you.

Adam: In that same time frame, you have named me ceo of the parent company twice. Only you didn’t have any intention of keeping me in the spot. I was a placeholder for victoria. And hey, now that nick is interested in the business after not being for years, he has now leapfrogged over me, too.

Victor: Well, no, son, there’s another way to look at it, you know?

Adam: Oh, well, why don’t you enlighten me, dad?

Victor: Newman media can be your domain, your domain only. You can implement all of your good ideas. And I told victoria that I’m very respectful of what you have contributed, and I want her to treat you with respect and consideration.

Adam: Why would she do that when you don’t do that?

Victor: What do you mean when I don’t do that?

Adam: Okay, this is all talk, dad. All you’re doing, you’re humoring my ambitions while you’re leaving the real positions of influence and authority to nikki and your other kids, okay? You know what I am? I’m tolerated, but I’m not appreciated — ever.

Victor: Do I need to remind you of the history of when you came into this family? Your siblings didn’t know you. I received you with open arms. I gave you every chance in the book. Do you realize the kind of damage you have done to this family when you first came? You wanted to kill your father! Now, son, if you act vengefully now, you will simply reaffirm the suspicions your siblings have had about you.

Adam: So, what are you gonna say now, that if I just work hard and I humble myself that maybe someday, sometime things will work out for me? Well, to hell with that, okay? I am through falling for it, dad. So, you know what? I’m out.

Victor: I’ve tried very hard to integrate you into this family. You’re my son. You’re of my blood. You walk away from this… look at me… you’ll break your father’s heart.

Billy: On today’s installment of “the grinning soul,” I will be discussing a power monger who thinks the rest of us are simply here to do his bidding. Thanks to a highly placed source at newman enterprises, I am now able to reveal the true story of the rise and fall of ashland locke, aka “the locke-ness monster.” Now, I realize this is the point that some people may be thinking it’s a pretty lousy thing to do, attacking a man with a dreaded disease, facing his last days on earth, but let me be very clear, because the fact is, no one needs to feel sorry for ashland locke. He does not have cancer. He is not dying from cancer. He never had cancer. The whole thing from the very beginning was a scam because that is who ashland locke is.

Nick: After some consideration, I have decided to accept victoria’s offer and become her coo.

Victor: Well, now, that makes me very happy.

Victoria: I think that I have now assembled the perfect leadership team.

Nikki: I think you have.

Victoria: This calls for a toast! Just so happens that I have some champagne and some sparkling cider chilling in the break-room fridge.

Nikki: Oh, do you now?

Nick: Be honest. Did you know I was gonna accept your offer the whole time?

Victoria: No, not at all. I just knew that I wasn’t gonna give up until you did.

Nikki: Darling, do you want to call adam and ask him to join us?

Victor: Adam has informed me that he no longer wants to be a part of newman media.

Nikki: Oh, I’m sorry. I-I know you were hoping to work something out.

Victor: Yeah.

Victoria: Would you like me to talk to him, dad? I’d be willing to do that for your sake.

Victor: No use. He doesn’t want any part of the family business any longer.

Nick: Is sally leaving with him?

Victor: I don’t think that will happen on her own volition.

Nikki: No, of course not. Adam named her ceo. No other company would hire her at that level.

Victor: Sweetheart, perhaps it’s up to you to decide who you’ll choose, okay? Maybe someone with more experience, less colorful of a history.

Victoria: I’m gonna give that some more thought later. But right now I would like to focus on welcoming my brother back to the c-suite. Mom, if you grab some champagne glasses, I’ll go grab the champagne. Oh, and the sparkling cider!

Sally: How did it go with victor?

Adam: [ Sighs ] I told him where I stand, that I’m sick of being used and pushed aside.

Sally: Well, hopefully he at least made an effort to talko t you out of leaving.

Adam: Oh, well, it was halfhearted.

Sally: I’m sorry.

Adam: Yeah. If it really mattered to him, he would have given me a reason to stay, something a little better than “I’ve asked your sister to be nicer to you.”

Sally: Did victor seriously say that?

Adam: No. I’m paraphrasing, but basically yes.

Sally: Oh, my god.

Adam: Oh, yeah, wait. There’s more. He told me that I should be grateful that I have a spot to land at newman media now that I’ve been pushed aside and nick is at the top of the org chart. The whole thing was just infuriating, and it was insulting. And, um, I quit.

Sally: Oh, my god, I’M… this is, it’s all happening so fast. Should I quit, too, I mean, in solidarity?

Adam: No. Absolutely not. Absolutely not, okay? I don’t expect that or want that. I told you.

Sally: Yeah, that I deserve this opportunity, but, I mean, at the end of the day it’s not really our decision to make. Victoria is in charge and nick, too, probably. Summer’s dad, and I’m sure he has not forgotten what I’ve done to his little princess. What are the odds that either of them are gonna want me around?

Adam: Maybe I should have stayed longer, until you were established, to protect you, but I just — I couldn’t take it anymore. I can’t deal with these people’s attitudes.

Sally: Yeah, I-I get it. Look — I want you to break free if that’s what you really want. And I will have your back. And I’ll land on my feet, like i always do.

Michael: Hey, diane.

Diane: Michael, I’m so pleased you called.

Michael: Yeah, the pleasure’s all mine. I grabbed us a couple of iced teas. I hope that’s okay.

Diane: Oh, it’s wonderful. I’m parched.

Michael: It’s a warm day out there.

Diane: It is. Thank you for thinking of me and for waiting. When the phone rang, I was just bringing my grandson home from the park.

Michael: Oh, I think it’s so great that you’re able to spend time with harrison. He ought to be loving that.

Diane: Oh, it’s great. It’s the highlight of my day. You know, he is such a cute, little boy. He reminds me so much of kyle at that age. It’s like going back in time.

Michael: Yeah, I was, you know, just out of curiosity, do the abbotts, are they letting you go on these outings unsupervised, or do they insist that you have a chaperone?

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Kyle isn’t worried that I’m going to run off with harrison, if that’s what you’re asking.

Michael: No, no, no, no, i wasn’t insulting you. I think it’s wonderful that you have earned this level of trust already.

Diane: Okay, now I know something’s up. What’s going on?

Michael: I need you to help me with something.

Diane: And that is?

Michael: Rumor has it that ashland locke is on his way back here, and if that’s the case, i wouldn’t be surprised if he made an attempt to see harrison. He might even approach you on one of your outings.

Diane: Ll, if something like that were to happen, I can assure you that I would tell ashland that he was being inappropriate, and I would take harrison home immediately.

Michael: Oh, no, that’s exactly what I don’t want you to do. (Vo) for over 50 years

Victoria: To our necoo.

Nikki: Cheers.

Victoria: Cheers.

Nick: Cheers!

Victor: Ahh! This makes me very happy, you know? That two of my beloved children, my beautiful wife are gonna shepherd the company that i built into the future. It’s the beginning of a new era.

Nikki: Hear, hear!

Nick: Yes. Cheers.

Victoria: Cheers to that.

Nick: Mm. Last one.

Victoria: Go for it, chief.

Nick: To the man who started it all. Dad, everything that’s happening is only possible because of you.

Victor: Thank you.

Nick: Cheers again.

Victoria: Cheers!

Adam: I feel I need to warn you.

Sally: About what?

Adam: What comes next at newman is going to be anything but business as usual.

Sal>>: Yeah. I thought about that. Based on what you said, it sounds like ashland might be launching an attack very soon, and it sounds like he might try and get you involved.

Adam: Well, look. Regardless of what I do, everybody else named newman will always assume the worst of me. And that could end up impacting you because we’re together.

Sally: Yeah, that occurred to me.

Adam: So, you’ll need to watch your back because things are about to get ugly.

Diane: Why on earth wouldn’t you want me to keep harrison away from ashland?

Michael: For one very good reason — if you were to accidentally slip up and allow ashland to go ahead and visit with harrison, we could catch him violating the restraining order. He may even see time in jail.

Diane: Whose idea was this?! Victor’s? Because it sounds like something he’d think up. Michael, I think it’s unconscionable that you would use that man’s love for his child against him.

Michael: Well, it’s a preemptive move to keep him away from victoria. The family would appreciate your cooperation.

Diane: Oh, please.

Michael: And nikki might even be prevailed upon to drop her investigation into your past.

Diane: Nice. Well, I doubt that summer newman would appreciate me involving harrison in your scheme, and kyle would be livid. I want no part of this.

Michael: I understand your reluctance.

Diane: I don’t think so, because if you did, you wouldn’t ask me to do something that could jeopardize everything I’m trying to accomplish.

Michael: Fair point.

Diane: [ Sighs ]

Michael: But you don’t have to decide now. Ashland might not even be in town.

Diane: He is here.

Michael: [ Slaps table ]

Diane: I saw him today.

Michael: Where?

Diane: At the park. And he asked to see harrison, just as you predicted.

Michael: Did the boy know he was there?

Diane: No, thank god.

Michael: And how did you handle it?

Diane: I did exactly what i told you I would do if the situation came up. I told ashland that in no uncertain terms that harrison was off-limits, and then I took my grandson home. So, you can stop trying to get me to help you, michael, because even if I wanted to, you missed your chance. It’s too late.

[ Door slams ]

Ashland: Aah! Can’t even say hello to my own damn son.

[ Cellphone pings ] What fresh hell is this?

Adam: Well, this must be the happiest day of your life.

Billy: It’s up there. You know, this has got to sting. Your plan to get rid of Locke cost you half a billion dollars, and it didn’t work. Needed your sister to come in and clean things up for you. You must be in a world of hurt. You’ve got your back up against the wall.

Adam: That’s right, I do. But you, of all people, should know that’s when I’m most dangerous. So, I probably wouldn’t push me, Billy.

****************************

Ashland: Oh. Hello, Adam.

Adam: [Clears throat] What are you doing here, Locke? You know, you have some nerve showing your face in Genoa City again.

Ashland: [Chuckles] Well, no one’s ever accused me of being timid.

Adam: Uh-huh. Well, there’s no love lost between us. So why are you chatting me up?

Ashland: You know, i understand how you Newmans always expect me to turn around and flee whenever I run into one of you. But honestly, I just — I don’t want to give you any of you that kind of satisfaction, so…

Adam: So, you came back to town to irritate us?

Ashland: No, no. I actually have a legitimate reason for being here.

Adam: Surely you can’t still be chasing after Victoria. I heard about how she worked you over. You really must be a glutton for punishment.

Ashland: No, no, no. If you must know, I — I left behind some personal belongings when Victoria and i took off for New York City, and I thought I’d stop by the house to pick them up.

Adam: Ah. Well, she may have already given them to charity.

Ashland: Hmm.

Adam: Or put them out on the curb for the trash collector. Or, hey, maybe she already had a good old-fashioned bonfire.

Ashland: I’m sure that’s exactly what’s happened. But speaking of being kicked to the curb, you must feel exactly like that now that Victoria has returned to reclaim her rightful place on the throne.

Victoria: Thank you.

[ Sighs ]

Nikki: Victoria, I just saw your name plate out the door. It’s official. You’re ceo again.

Victoria: Yes, I’m — I’m eager to dive back in. I’m just reorganizing a little bit and getting settled.

Nikki: Well, it’s great to have you back here where you belong.

Victoria: It’s great to be back running the company on my own. No more lies. No more ashland. He’s gone, and he’s out of our lives for good.

So I probably wouldn’t push me, billy.

Chelsea: Whoa. What was that all about?

Sally: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ] Adam, just calling to see how you’re doing. Wondering if you made any decisions on your next move. Call me back whenever you have a chance.

Jack: Moves and countermoves. Sounds like you and adam are made for each other.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Not sure how cutting you meant that last remark to be.

Jack: No, not at all. Actually, I’m very fond of adam. He’s been very happy these days and not creating chaos lately. At least none that the public’s aware of. If your relationship is a contributing factor, I’m pleased for both of you.

Sally: Well, I am very glad to hear that, because as one friend of adam’s to another, I am just trying to figure out if I should be freaking out right now or not.

Sharon: So victoria is back and adam is out. Just like that. I mean, I know that victor put adam in charge in the hopes of luring victoria home, but I didn’t know it was going to happen this fast.

Nick: It wasn’t my dad’s move to blow up victoria and ashland. It was my sister’s play all along. She wanted to turn the tables on ashland and get him out of our lives for good.

Sharon: So the whole thing was a setup?

Nick: Yeah, she needed ashland and the rest of the family to actually believe that she was choosing ashland over the family. And she played it brilliantly. I don’t approve of her methods, but it worked.

Sharon: Well, victoria is very much her father’s daughter.

Nick: And in the same conversation, vick offered me a job.

Sharon: Are you going back to newman? And if so, where does that leave adam?

Nick: I’m assuming vick is gonna want adam to return to newman media, if he even wants to do that. Vick didn’t have a chance to have that conversation with him.

Sharon: Why not?

Nick: Adam stormed out because adam’s adam. Everybody knew what was gonna happen. Dad was gonna reinstate victoria as the ceo.

Sharon: Right after having this big, splashy press conference announcing how adam’s gonna take over.

Nick: I get it. I understand why adam was upset. It’s no fun being a chess piece in one of dad’s mind games, but adam knew what was going on. We all did. It just happened sooner than we thought. I think adam was hoping that dad was gonna punish victoria for getting all caught up in this by keeping adam in charge.

Sharon: But instead, it sounds like victor was impressed by what she did.

Nick: Which made adam even angrier. I just wish adam would understand that being the ceo of a major media company is a tremendous opportunity. You know, I’m sure vick’s gonna want mom to step back in as co-ceo. Mom seems to think vick’s going to want me as coo.

Sharon: Wow. That’s a big responsibility. What do you think about it?

Nick: Honestly, I don’t know. I mean, we’ve talked about this, but it was all hypothetical, you know? And now it’s for real. I need to make an actual decision.

Sharon: Come on, nick.

Nick: Where are we going?

Sharon: We’re gonna go and figure this out.

Nikki: Let’s see. Yeah. Your beautiful portrait is back in its rightful place. Your father will be so happy that the painting that he commissioned for you is back on the wall.

Victoria: Well, dad and I are in a really good place right now. We had a nice, long talk. I thought he was more upset than he let on about the whole ashland situation, leaving everyone out of the loop and worrying you all, but it turns o that he was more upset that I kept him in the dark.

Nikki: Well, yes, of course he was.

Victoria: But the good news is, is that he completely supports me returning to newman enterprises. And I’m hoping that you’re gonna resume your role as my co-ceo.

Nikki: Oh, my god. Absolutely. Yes. I mean, I’m here to support you in any way I can. And this is a very important transition for our family. It will give us the chance to all be together, working side-by-side in the company your father built. And I’m willing to do whatever it takes to help you make that happen.

Victoria: Well, dad did mention that he thinks nicholas might be closer to coming back to newman than we think. Do you have any idea why he might believe that?

Nikki: Well, nicholas is at a crossroads again. I think your father’s aware of that. Nicholas is, of course, very protective of the family and of the company. He always has been. But I do think this situation with ashland has forced him to realize that he’s not as effective at a distance.

Victoria: Well, I am glad to hear that he’s primed to accept my offer, but it is a big decision, walking back into this environment.

Nikki: Oh, he’s definitely in a different mindset these days.

Victoria: You know, nicholas supported me throughout that entire ordeal, even though he didn’t understand or agree with my decisions. I need people like that around me with unquestionable loyalty. Now, I’ve decided I am — I’m not gonna push him. I’m gonna give him all the time and space that he needs to make the right decision for himself. But, mother, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we were all working together with dad as our advisor? I mean, just imagine what we could accomplish.

Nikki: All kinds of great things. But we have to be mindful that in the middle of all of this is a dangerous wild card who could blow everything up.

Ashland: Oh. Hello, adam.

Adam: [ Clears throat ] What are you doing here, locke? You know, you have some nerve showing your face in genoa city again.

Ashland: [ Chuckles ] Well, no one’s ever accused me of being timid.

Adam: So you came back to town to irritate us?

Ashland: No, no. I actually hava lee timate reason for being here.

Or, hey, maybe she already had a good old fashioned bonfire.

Ashland: I’m sure that’s exactly what’s happened. But speaking of being kicked to the curb, you must feel exactly like that now that victoria has returned to reclaim her rightful place on the throne. Ughh!

Sally: As I’m sure you’re aware, there was a huge media blitz putting adam back in charge of newman, and now with victoria’s return, it’s thrown everything up in the air.

Jack: So let me guess. That relegates adam to returning to newman media so that victoria can take the ceo spot.

Sally: I’m assuming. Which is so unfair because adam hasn’t even had a chance to get his feet wet.

Jack: Yeah, victor has a long history of manipulating his children. His cavalier approach to adam has always been reprehensible.

Sally: Yeah, well, compared to the newmans, the abbotts are downright wholesome.

Jack: [ Scoffs ] I don’t know about that. So I’m assuming you’re as worried about how all this is going to affect you as you are about adam?

Sally: Yeah. I want things to work out for both of us.

Ashland: See, I can just imagine victor welcoming his precious daughter back into the fold with open arms, proud as a peacock about how she has pulled off yet another remarkable coup.

Adam: I’m not sure why you’re rhapsodizing about a woman who scammed the hell out of you.

Ashland: Well, because I have to admire the way she played the game. I mean, she managed to convince me again that she was willing to walk away from her controlling family and start a whole new life together. And the way — the way she so cleverly tricked me into just signing away all the rest of the money I had left over from the deal with your father, which, by the way, was your master plan, if I’m not mistaken. I’m sure she emphasized that with him when she talked to him later. But really, it was the skill with which she lied. I mean, it was just a stroke of genius on her part. It was the kind of deal that victor himself might have thought of, you know? A point I’m sure she also emphasized.

Adam: Well, my sister is certainly unpredictable, but it’s not like you didn’t have it coming.

Ashland: We all have it coming, right? But here we are, you and me. Similar situation. Victoria played us both to get exactly what she wanted.

Chelsea: So what had adam so upset? He stormed out here without even noticing me.

Billy: Adam is having a bad day. I happened to be conveniently in the line of fire.

Chelsea: Aw, and I’m sure that’s all it was. Because it’s not like you tend to give as good as you get.

Billy: Adam is the last person I want to talk about. I would rather hear how you’re doing. Specifically, how are things between you and chloe? Because the last time we talked, they were strained.

Chelsea: Well, my argument with her was a real turning point for me. It forced me to do some real soul searching, and I realized chloe’s and my friendship was in jeopardy. I had to dig deep to figure out why. I’m not gonna wreck my friendship with her. She’s too important to me. I mean, chloe has been there through ick and thin.

Billy: Well, that’s good. Sounds like digging deep helped you figure some things out.

Chelsea: Yeah, and I actually made a really big decision.

Billy: Yeah?

Chelsea: I’m taking a step back from fashion, taking a much-needed break.

Billy: Wow. That’s huge.

Chelsea: And i have you to thank partially.

Billy: Uh-oh, me? Why?

Chelsea: Well, that very mature conversation we had earlier? It gave me a lot of clarity. You said things that forced me to face the reality of things I’d been avoiding. It’s a good thing. You know, I’ve been saying yes to everything out of fear of letting anybody down, especially chloe.

Billy: I know that feeling. Trust me, I get it.

Chelsea: It’s strange, the idea of walking away from something that’s been such a huge part of my life’s work. But I know it’s the right choice. What I was doing before, it wasn’t sustainable, and I have you to thank for it. So in return, I was hoping I could do something for you. Are you tired of clean clothes that just don’t smell clean?

Billy: You don’t have to do anything for me. You don’t owe me anything.

Chelsea: Why don’t you hear me out before you turn me down? Because you might just be interested in what I have to say.

Billy: Okay, fine. I’m listening. Go ahead.

Chelsea: Okay, I know you were surprised when you heard my honest feedback about your podcast.

Billy: When you told me that I wallow in self-recrimination and past pain and that I am dour?

Chelsea: I believe it was lily that used the word “dour.”

Billy: Yeah, well, it probably was, because after you brought it up, there are many people in my life that have now confirmed that my podcast is a downer.

Chelsea: Okay, I also said that you are one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.

Billy: Mm.

Chelsea: I have seen every facet of billy abbott, okay? You need somebody like me to push the podcast along creatively, and I’d be willing to help you out.

Billy: You’d be willing to help me out? How?

Chelsea: You know, set the tone of the podcast, push it along the way it needs to, be a sounding board. I can be a fresh set of eyes and ears, to be honest about what’s working and what’s not. So… what do you think?

Sally: From what I can tell, adam is constantly being mistreated by his family, and now he’s being kicked out of the top spot unceremoniously. Yes, I get that he’s done some messed up things in the past, but haven’t we all? Haven’t they? However, he’s the one that’s always being kept on the outside. He can never do enough, be enough in their eyes, and it is just ridiculous, it’s frustrating.

Jack: There are complicated dynamics at play that began decades before you ever came to genoa city.

Sally: I know. But adam has done so much to prove himself and earn their respect. He’s brilliant and funny and sharp. Not to mention how supportive he’s been of me. I mean, no one has ever treated me with this level of respect and appreciation personally and professionally.

[ Sighs ] Okay, look, I’m sorry. It’s not that you weren’t great until I gave in to my worst impulses, which phyllis was more than happy to reveal to you and to everyone else, but I have fought really hard to overcome my self-defeating behavior. Things I am certainly not proud of, and I’ve accepted the consequences and went about the business of just rebuilding my credibility.

Jack: From where I see things, you’ve made real progress.

Sally: I’ve done everything i could to establish myself in this town as someone to be taken seriously. By showing up, doing the work, and learning everything I could, and it has paid off in ways that I couldn’t have even imagined.

Jack: Oh, I’m not sure I buy that. You have always been a big dreamer from the day I met you.

Sally: Yeah. No, you’re right. I-I…did imagine it. So when the opportunity came, I was ready. And I am really proud of everything I accomplished. I had big plans and dreams. And now that might all be taken away. And I just don’t know what to do or how to feel. But the one thing I am sure about is adam. He truly gets me. He believes in me. And he trusts me.

Jack: I can hear the love in your voice. And I’m happy you and adam have found each other. It makes sense somehow. The two of you have always wanted to prove yourself to the world. It’s good to see you. Nice to catch up. One last thing. Adam is his most unpredictable when he feels emotionally wounded. He tends to overreact. His reactions have been outsized and dangerous. You know, “you hurt me, I’ll hurt you even more.” He rarely considers the collateral damage. You take care of yourself.

Victoria: I assume that the wild card you’re referring to is adam?

Nikki: Yes, of course. And I’m certainly not lobbying for him to have a seat at the newman enterprises table, but he was pushed out rather abruptly, and he needs to feel valued. We’re just gonna have to handle that situation very carefully.

Victoria: You’re right, mom. You are right, and I have factored all of that into my plan. When adam is done licking his wounds, assuming that dad convinces him to come and work for me, I would happily welcome him back as ceo of newman media.

Nikki: And who says he’ll want to even take it? He might view it as an insulting demotion.

Victoria: Well, if he refuses, that’s his choice. But if he stays, it will satisfy dad’s desire to have us all working together while keeping adam in a position where he cannot affect the decision-making for the rest of the company.

Nikki: Well, if he does decide to stay, I worry about what that will be like. I mean, he will just be a disgruntled, miserable presence, constantly giving you grief and trying to undermine you at every turn.

Victoria: Hmm, well, I’m used to it. Adam is just white noise to me now. I know he’s a menace, but nothing to lose sleep over.

Ashland: Boy, you barely had a chance to sit behind that big giant desk and pretend to be ceo before victoria came back and just — just took the title away from you. Oh. Oh. I can see by your expression, it’s already happened. That’s got to be tough. Well, your father couldn’t possibly make it more clear, could he? He never had any intention of taking you seriously in that role. He just saw you as a convenient placeholder. So both of us have been scammed in the same way. Both of us lied to by someone close to us, someone we thought we could trust.

Adam: At least I didn’t get fleeced for $250 million.

Ashland: Yeah, but your dad took something away from you that has so much more value than cash. He took away your power and respect.

Adam: What are you really doing here, locke? You have to know victoria will never take you back. Especially after what she just pulled.

Ashland: I don’t understand why you continue to think I’m interested in reconciling with a woman who just conned me.

Adam: Okay, well, then, if you’re not trying to get back together with victoria, what else does genoa city have to offer you? I mean, surely you can’t be trying to mount a legal battle to reclaim the money that the newmans received. And you have to know that’s a losing proposition, especially after the whole lying about cancer thing.

Ashland: Ah, I’m not really interested in a prolonged court case now, and if I wanted to file suit, I would do so in new york, not here.

Adam: Okay, well, then there’s only one other option. Are you simply out for revenge?

Ashland: Are you gonna sit there and tell me you’re not? After everything your family has done to you? Really something, isn’t it? Here we are in a situation where we both want the same thing. Have a nice day. – Hey honey. – Hey dad.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Sharon: I think getting a little fresh air will help you work through this decision without any distractions. Why don’t we just talk about the pros and cons?

Nick: Okay. I guess first, let’s talk about how a move like this will affect christian. You know? My hours will be far less flexible, which means I’ll have a lot less time to spend with him.

Sharon: On the other hand, when you worked for newman before, we had young kids. You managed to balance work and parenting just fine. You found a way to prioritize the kids.

Nick: Yeah. But what about new hope, you know? I go back to work at newman, I’ll be stepping away from something that I put a lot of work and energy into, something that — it fulfills me. It’s work that I really enjoy.

Sharon: Improving people’s lives by building affordable housing is exactly who you are.

Nick: As opposed to rejoining corporate america, newman-style, and all the chaos that goes along with that.

Sharon: But you said yourself you’d be able to mitigate a lot of that and influence decisions, manage the family infighting, maybe even prevent something like what victoria just lived through from even happening. And protecting the family and the family business, that’ll be fulfilling in a different way. And if you do go back to newman, it’s not like all the work that you’ve put into new hope will end. Noah’s been with the company for a while now. He’ll be able to step in and fill in the gaps, right?

Nick: Absolutely. You know, it’d make me very comfortable knowing my son will be there to continue this mission that I started. He knows the place inside and out. He’s a very fast learner.

Sharon: You know, it could be a really good opportunity for our son.

Nick: Yeah, he could take on a much bigger role.

Sharon: You just have to let the vendors and donors and supporters know that the vision of this nonprofit is not changing and that the leadership is going to be in stable hands. Remind them that their relationships are all very important and then gradually allow noah to establish himself with them.

Nick: Well, the way you’re talking, it sure sounds like you think I should go back to work at newman.

Billy: You know, chels, that’s very, very nice of you. It’s a very generous offer.

Chelsea: But?

Billy: But the truth is, I work alone in my room in the middle of the night, delving into my psyche and digging deep on whatever catches fire.

Chelsea: Did you ever consider that maybe that’s part of the problem?

Billy: Hmm.

Chelsea: You know, scratch that. Just forget I said anything.

Billy: No, I’m not gonna forget you said anything because the last time you gave me a critique, you were right on the money, so I would be a fool not to hear you out.

Chelsea: I just think I could help point out places you could have a different tone, you know? Go broader on a topic, get all meta with your listeners.

Billy: Without depressing them.

Chelsea: But listen, it’s your podcast and people are responding to it, so…

Billy: Well, the latest research is telling me that my audience is plateauing, so maybe I could use a little help.

Chelsea: Yeah?

Billy: Yeah.

Chelsea: Cool.

Billy: Let me get back to you. Let me think about a little bit. Victoria and I just have a few things to discuss about the kids.

Chelsea: Of course. Totally understand.

Billy: I will reach out to you soon.

Chelsea: That sounds great. I think this would be a lot of fun.

Billy: Yeah, definitely.

Chelsea: See you.

Billy: See you.

Chelsea: Hi, victoria. Welcome back.

Victoria: Oh, thanks. It’s good to be home.

[ Knock on door ]

Adam: I’m sorry that I haven’t returned your calls.

Sally: It’s okay. I know you’ve been dealing with a lot.

Adam: Yeah, in addition to the whiplash of being in and out of the newman ceo seat at record speed, I had a run-in with billy.

Sally: He’s probably the last person you wanted to see right now.

Billy: Yeah, he’s been rubbing my face in victoria’s sudden and triumphant return.

Sally: Bet that left a bad taste in your mouth.

Adam: And then, if you can believe this, I ran into ashland himself.

Sally: He’s back in genoa city?

Adam: Mm-hmm. Supposedly to pick up his belongings from victoria’s place. But I think there is much more to it than that. I think there’s other, less benign intentions. And tonight’s winning numbers are 18,

Jack: Nik.

Nikki: Jack.

Jack: I really don’t want to get into it with you again about diane. It’s her decision whether she stays in town. It’s kyle’s decision whether he accept his mother back into his life again.

Nikki: And you are determined to be mr. Neutral.

Jack: I know that drives you crazy.

Nikki: Yeah, it does. I hate the fact that she is walking around town here without a care in the world. After everything she has done to people, she’s not suffering any consequences. And now, to add insult to injury, the abbott family is standing behind her, or at least not getting in her way. But right now, I have other things on my mind. Like my family.

Nick: Is that what you’re saying, that I should go back to work at newman? Because I got to say, I’m surprised. After our previous conversations, I did not expect this.

Sharon: I know, it’s kind of shocking. I’ve always been a big supporter of your decision to strike out on your own and get away from the madness of the newman family business.

Nick: So what’s different? What changed?

Sharon: You changed. You’re stronger now. You’re more centered and the blinders are off. You’re able to see your family for exactly who and what they are, and you’re able to accept them. Maybe it’s because you’re older and wiser now.

[ Both laugh ]

Nick: Well, if that’s why you think I should do this, maybe you need to rethink that.

Sharon: No, seriously, though. In the past, when you worked in that environment, it changed you and you became someone you didn’t want to be. But this time, I think you’ll be the one to change that environment because you’re in a position to add some reason and sanity to that chaos.

Nick: You really think that’s possible?

Sharon: I do. This time around, I don’t think that working for newman is gonna take anything from you. In fact, I think it’ll be the opposite. It’s gonna enhance your life. Making this decision for the sake of your family could be the most fulfilling thing you’ve ever done.

Nick: Sounds amazing when you put it like that.

Sharon: Well, I know you, nick, and I know that you’ve already made your decision. You’re going back.

Adam: It’s obvious that ashland is planning something, and whatever it is, it could turn things back in our favor.

Sally: Why would you think that?

Adam: Well, ashland kept implying that he and i are after the same thing.

Sally: And that would be?

Adam: Stripping victoria of everything that she has. Like she’s done to us. So maybe things aren’t quite over after all.

Sally: [ Exhales ]

Adam: Okay, victoria didn’t just take everything from ashland. She lorded it over him. She humiliated him. A feeling that I am unfortunately very familiar with. And ashland, no doubt, he wants to make her pay and he wants to make her life a living hell in the process.

Sally: And that works for us how?

Adam: Well, if victoria finds herself under attack, being pushed into a corner, she will be distracted. She could make mistakes, costly ones that could be capitalized on. So maybe I could help move things along.

Sally: Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the ultimate goal to create an opening so you can get back into the top at newman enterprises?

Adam: No. My days of trying to prove to my father that I am worthy are over.

Billy: You know, I’m really glad that I ran into you because I was starting to question whether all of this was real.

Victoria: Which part were you questioning?

Billy: The part where you finally saw locke for who he was and cut him loose.

Victoria: Well, that actually really happened. And it wasn’t easy, you know? I had to be very convincing. People had to believe that I still loved ashland and i was willing to walk away from everything to be with him.

Billy: I have no idea how you stomached that.

Victoria: It was difficult, billy. It was, especially knowing how tough it was on everyone that I loved. That’s the part I regretted the most.

Billy: I’m assuming you’re talking about your parents. Well, they are tough as nails. I know where you get it from. So now what?

Victoria: That’s what i wanted to talk to you about. There’s a favor that I want you to do for me. Ughh!

Nick: You know, I think you’re right. I have been heading this direction for a while of putting myself back in the mix.

Sharon: I know, because, like I said, I know you so well.

Nick: Well, I needed to hear your advice and know that I wasn’t crazy for actually even considering this.

Sharon: Well, I’m not saying that.

[ Laughs ]

Nick: Well, thank you. I think you’re right. I think I’m making the right decision.

Jack: I am aware your family is going through a lot right now. I heard victoria came back without ashland, though. That’s huge, and you must be very relieved, among other things.

Nikki: We are very happy to have her home and out of the clutches of that horrible man.

Jack: Well, I’m sure with the support of you and your family, victoria will finally put that whole ashland nightmare behind her.

Nikki: And that’s certainly the hope.

Billy: You know that you can count on me for anything, but what kind of favor are we talking about here?

Victoria: I want you to use “the grinning soul” podcast to reveal the ugly truth about ashland’s cancer scam. I just want the truth to be out there about how he fabricated everything to win favor and to gain entry into newman enterprises.

Billy: Are you serious? Because you were just joking about how you did not want your secrets exposed.

Victoria: I am very serious. I mean every word that I’m saying. And after all, it will be coming from an anonymous podcaster who is not expressing the views of his employer, but he just wants to get the truth out there for everyone to hear.

Billy: But that would also mean that inevitably that would include revealing what he did to you.

Victoria: Well, it’ll be worth itf it closes all the doors on ashland, and it will ensure that he can’t do to someone else what he’s done to me.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

Adam: Victor has insulted me and used me again and again. And my sister’s loved every minute of it. She’s confident her place is secure, no matter how much I have tried to prove myself.

Sally: So what are you saying?

Adam: That I’m done trying. I just want to see my dear little sister crash and burn. And even more, I want to see my father go down with her. I mean, who would’ve guessed it? Ashland was right. We you want the same thing?

Next week on

“the young and the restless”…

Nick: I’m ready to rejoin the team, and maybe this time it sticks for good.

Victoria: Yes!

Amanda: Are we really back to this?

Imani: Back to what?

Amanda: Back to you finding every excuse to spend time with nate, especially when elena is out of town.

Ashland: Ahhhh!

[ Groaning ] Gah!

Chloe: Hey Sally. Well, nothing was happening until you showed up, and I mean that on five different levels.

Sally: I’d like to take that as a good thing.

Chloe: Oh, it’s great.

Sally: What are you doing?

Chloe: Oh, I’m just having a business meeting with my partner. Can’t you see?

Sally: Is Chelsea late?

Chloe: Yeah, or possibly forgot the whole thing or just chose not to show up.

Sally: I see.

Chloe: Please, please sit down and join me.

Sally: Oh.

Chloe: Um, yeah, I just wanted to congratulate you on your new gig. Thank you. I mean, taking over as CEO at Newman Media — that is a big job. But I know you can do it.

Sally: Thanks, Chloe. Coming from you, that means a lot.

Victoria: handle the articles of incorporation. We need to be official if we’re gonna make an offer on the place.

Ashland: Agreed.

Victoria: Uh, also — oh, gosh — in order to file the paperwork, we’re gonna need a name, and we haven’t even thought of anything yet.

Ashland: Okay, how about “anything but Newman” incorporated?

Victoria: Ooh, catchy! But I think — honestly, I think we should leave our names out of it.

Ashland: I like “catchy.” How about Catchy Media?

Victoria: My goodness. I thought you would be better at this. Your previous corporation was named after a 3,000-year-old Babylonian king.

Ashland: Excuse me. I had months to come up with that, not five minutes.

Victoria: Okay, fine. What was that phrase that you used about the building?

Ashland: “Save millions.”

Victoria: [Laughs] No. “Hand of destiny.”

Ashland: “Destiny.” Destiny Media. I love that. And I love you.

Phyllis: Hey Derek, can you do me a favor? Um, and get housekeeping on this right away. Half a bottle of wine and dirty glasses are outside my suite. I don’t want it there. Hard night for someone. I don’t know who left it there. I don’t know. I don’t know. But could you get rid of it? Thanks.

Amanda: Well, hello. So, you run out of town, you leave us in the lurch for the Chancellor-Winters launch party, and then, worst of all, you don’t call, you don’t text.

Phyllis: I know. I’m the worst. Hi.

Amanda: Welcome home.

Phyllis: Aww, thank you. Thank you

Summer: Mom?

Phyllis: I’m okay.

Summer: No, you’re not.

Phyllis: Yeah, I’m fine Summer. I’m fine. You know what? I want to ask you a question. The job you offered me at Marchetti — is that the same one that Diane’s doing?

Summer: Mom, no, not even close. I wanted you to be my head of marketing. What we offered Diane is a junior-level P.R. Gig. Look, it was Kyle’s idea, and i only agreed to it because I’m here to support Kyle, just like you are here to support me, right?

Phyllis: Yeah. Right. I will support you. I will support you because i love you. Yeah.

Summer: I love you, too.

Victoria: You deserve an explanation.

Billy: I agree. Thank you.

Victoria: And, honestly, i think that you deserve the truth, as well. The truth is that I had no intention of reconciling with Ashland at all.

Billy: Well, I was hoping that was the case, but why didn’t you just tell me the plan? You know that you can trust me.

Victoria: Is it really a mystery why I wouldn’t want “the grinning soul” to do an entire podcast on clever women who flip the script on their devious and manipulative husbands?

Billy: I’m glad that you are safe and sound and single. You are single, aren’t you?

Victoria: That’s right. I want nothing more to do with Ashland.

****************************

Ashland: Yeah. No, no, no. No need. We’ve had many successes in the past. Peru is not one of them, but you can’t knock it out of the park every time, can you? Although I did think the task was relatively simple — to keep Michael Baldwin down there, to get him thrown in jail, keep him there while I control the narrative here. But it was not meant to be. I still don’t quite understand what went wrong. Perhaps there was some unforeseen exigencies we hadn’t planned for. Or maybe he’s just smarter than we are. I don’t know.

Stannis: I —

Ashland: As I said, no need to explain. But this job I’m offering you right here and right now… will give you a chance to redeem yourself.

Stannis: I assume the target is still Michael Baldwin?

Ashland: Oh, god, no. Let’s not bite off more than we can chew. I can’t expect you to keep up with a wily, third-rate lawyer. No, no, no. This time, the target will be much more manageable, hmm?

[ Knock on door ]

Billy: Is this a good time?

Victoria: And if it wasn’t, would you turn around and walk out or come in anyway and subject me to whatever’s on your mind?

Billy: Even if you’re busy, I’m not going anywhere ’cause i am dying to find out what is going on.

Victoria: What do you mean?

Billy: Okay. Well, the last time we did this face-to-face, you told me that you were abandoning your job and your family to start a new life with ashland locke.

Victoria: I remember.

Billy: And now you’re here, alone, in your office, and seemingly very happy about it.

Victoria: Do you have a problem with that?

Billy: Oh, no. Absolutely not. I am thrilled that you’re not with that fraud anymore, but i do want to know — how did you get from point a to point b?

Victoria: Well, look, I guess you do deserve an explanation.

Victoria: That’s right. I want nothing more to do with ashland.

[ Knock on door ]

Ashland: [ Groans ] Stannis! Come in. Glad to see you’ve recovered so well from your trip to south america.

Stannis: About that job in peru —

Ashland: Yeah. No, no, no. No need. We’ve had many successes in the past. Peru is not one of them, but you can’t knock it out of the park every time, can you? Although I did think the task was relatively simple — to keep michael baldwin down there, to get him thrown in jail, keep him there while I control the narrative here. But it was not meant to be. I still don’t quite understand what went wrong. Perhaps there was some unforeseen exigencies we hadn’t planned for. Or maybe he’s just smarter than we are. I don’t know.

[ Bottle slams ] My wife.

Nikki: I am just so relieved that victoria is back and has cut all ties with ashland. I really was worried that she had walked away from us forever. I supposed I should have had more faith in her.

Nick: Well, let’s not let her off the hook entirely. I mean, she was pretty convincing when she was talking about how in love she was with ashland and how she was willing to sacrifice everything to be with him. Now that we know the whole story, it’s easy to understand why she was acting the way she was, but it was pretty cruel for her to put us through that, especially you.

Nikki: Well, I’ll tell you, if a few sleepless nights was the price we had to pay to get rid of him, it was well worth it.

Nick: [ Chuckles ]

Nikki: Now we can focus on the future.

Nick: To better days.

Nikki: Better days. Speaking of, what do you think about victoria’s job offer? I mean, even before she made it, your father had mentioned to me that he sensed that you might be perhaps interested in coming back to newman enterprises. Is that true?

Victor: I want to know what you were thinking storming out of that meeting with your siblings. It was totally inappropriate.

Adam: Well, perhaps it was, but, uh, at least it was an honest expression of how I was feeling.

Victor: Son, I don’t give a damn whether it was an honest expression or not. It was inappropriate. Your sister just came back.

Adam: [ Chuckles ]

Victor: She defeated ashland locke. She brought back $250 million of the $500 million that I paid that bastard to get out of town. She ought to be applauded, what she did.

Adam: Are you kidding me right now?

Victor: What do you mean, am I kidding you right now?

provided by… my blood pressure is borderline.

Nick: I don’t know how real vick’s job offer was. I think it was more of a gesture of goodwill.

Nikki: Oh, that’s not the impression I got.

Nick: Before the family meeting, she told me how much she appreciated that I stood by her, even though I didn’t agree with what she was doing. I just think that, you know, it meant a lot to her.

Nikki: Well, of course it did. It meant a lot to me, too. Now just knowing the two of you are close again — that’s what every mother hopes for.

Nick: Well, I will always support my sister, no matter what, even though at times she can be extremely exasperating. Vick just needs people around her that she feels like she can trust, and she doesn’t have a lot of that. And I think that’s where the job offer came from. I’m trying not to read too much into it.

Nikki: Well, I think you should. And victoria has never let sentiment get into the way of how she runs the company. I think she appreciates you for your judgment and your business instincts.

Nick: So, you think I should take the job?

Nikki: You have to do what makes you happy. But I do know your father would be thrilled to see you and victoria working together again.

Adam: If I’m less than thrilled about victoria’s return, it’s because I can feel the ground crumbling under my feet.

Victor: Son, you must know that I would never have gone to the press to announce that you were the new ceo of newman enterprises had I known that she would be back in a week. You believe that, don’t you?

Adam: I-I believe you.

Victor: Okay.

Adam: But that means she played you, too. She used you as a pawn in her plan, okay? She knew you were gonna make that announcement. It was almost like proof to locke that she was truly exiled from the family.

Victor: Don’t you understand that she did what she thought she had to do?

Adam: Look, I — I appreciate that you gave me a chance, but i know that you were hoping she would return, okay? We discussed this.

Victor: But wait a minute, son. Yes, we discussed it, and you agreed to live with that possibility.

Adam: Yeah. I just wish that you had given me a little more time to show you what I am capable of, okay? I have a lot of great ideas. And I don’t get bogged down by my wreck of a personal life like victoria does.

Victor: Slow down. Slow down. Slow down. Implicit in what you just said is a criticism of victoria. I don’t like that anymore. I want you guys to work together. You’re very capable. You have wonderful suggestions. You’re very bright. You know that. But I want you to use your abilities and your suggestions to support victoria as ceo of the company, not to undermine her. I want you to work together as a family, not like gladiators in a damn ring.

Victoria: My biggest gamble was telling nicholas that ashland I were meeting with investors.

Billy: You had to trust him to make sure that no one would invest in the venture.

Victoria: Exactly. Everything hinged on nick telling my father everything. Either that, or he would have to read between the lines and know that that’s what I wanted him to do. Or go into overprotective, patronizing mode.

Billy: I hope for your sake it was the former.

Victoria: Well, honestly, i don’t care at this point. All that matters is that everything went exactly as i planned.

Billy: Brilliant.

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: It took brains and courage to set a successful trap for ashland.

Victoria: And once he walked into it, I had the jet bring me back here.

Billy: So, that $250 million — that was the remainder of the money that your father gave him?

Victoria: That’s right.

Billy: And he handed that over, no questions asked?

Victoria: Not at all.

Billy: Wow. That’s fantastic.

Victoria: I didn’t know that you were so concerned about my father’s money. That is so sweet of you.

Billy: Oh, believe me, I do not care whose money it is. I just don’t want it lining ashland locke’s pockets. He should not be rewarded for this dangerous behavior. But I am very surprised that your father gave him $500 million.

Victoria: Ashland did donate half of that to nick’s charity.

Billy: Aww, that’s very sweet of him. He’s quite the humanitarian, isn’t he? You know what the worst part about this half a billion dollars was for you?

Victoria: What?

Billy: Adam. He was gonna hang that over your head forever. I can hear him now — “victoria, how dare you fall in love with a con man and cost our family a fortune?”

Victoria: Well, he could have said that all he wanted. The fact of the matter is he’s the one who initiated the deal.

Billy: That’s probably the exact reason why he made the offer, isn’t it?

Victoria: You know, I was thinking the same thing. Adam didn’t make this deal with ashland because he cared about the family. He did it because he was thinking about himself and he wanted to highlight my mistakes. But you know what? It doesn’t matter. The money came back to the newman family, the ledger is balanced, and I made everything right again.

Billy: You did it. You really did. Now you can move on from this whole situation and forget about ashland locke for good.

Victoria: That’s the plan.

Ashland: My own movements in genoa city will be limited. I will be keeping a low profile, so I will need you to be my eyes and ears where the newmans are concerned. Now, victor and adam newman have both been thorns in my side, so any information you can come up about them would be much appreciated.

Stannis: Got it. I’ll keep you updated.

Ashland: Excellent. Of course, victoria newman will be your primary target.

Stannis: You want me to tail her, keep track of her whereabouts.

Ashland: Yes. Good for you. I realize this is beneath your prodigious skill set, but after what happened in peru, we really should make sure you can walk before we try to run, yes?

Stannis: Of course.

Ashland: Yeah. So, I need to know where she goes, who she talks to, what she does. I need every single detail. If she buys a pack of gum, i want to know what flavor. Do you understand? Excellent. Keep me posted on the hour.

[ Door closes ] Hi, I’m denise.

Billy: [ Sighs ] I am so relieved, I can’t even explain the feeling that I have right now.

Victoria: Because of your limited vocabulary?

Billy: No. ‘Cause I’m overwhelmed. I honestly thought that you were making a life-changing mistake. And right now I am just so happy that ashland locke will not be a part of our kids’ lives.

Victoria: Billy, I apologize for misleading you, but I never had any intention of allowing ashland near johnny and katie ever again.

Billy: You’re not as fragile as I thought you were.

Victoria: Ugh! I’ve been telling you for years I’m not a delicate flower.

Billy: And I should have listened. I’m sure you told your family the same thing, and I’m sure they are thrilled to have you back.

Victoria: They’re adjusting to the abrupt changes, but I get the sense that everybody’s happy that things are back to the way that they should be. Aside from adam. I kind of get the sense from him that he’s disappointed that he won’t be running newman enterprises after all.

Billy: Now, that is a shame.

Nick: You know why I stayed away from the company all these years?

Nikki: Why?

Nick: I don’t like wearing suits.

Nikki: Well, that cannot possibly be true because you look so dashing in a suit.

Nick: Oh, thanks, mom. But you know what it’s like there. I mean, there’s always so much turmoil around newman enterprises. Dad feels like he needs to control every single thing that goes on in that tower. And whether it’s intentional or not, he’s created all these rivalries with vick and adam and me, and it’s crazy.

Nikki: Well, that could change.

Nick: I don’t see that happening. I just saw adam storm out of the office because dad finally gives him the job he wants — he got the big chair — and now it looks like he’s gonna have to relinquish it. I can’t even blame him for being angry.

Nikki: Well, I guess I can’t, either. I told your father that he should be ready for this possibility. I didn’t think it would happen quite so soon.

Nick: None of us did.

Nikki: [ Sis ] He knows what a minefield it is to have adam and victoria working at the company.

Nick: He can’t seem to resist pitting them against each other.

Nikki: But it’s not always on purpose. He is very concerned about their relationship.

Nick: Well, mom, he can be concerned all he wants, but this is his M.O. — To have them on opposite sides. And why would I want to subject myself to that by going into that building every day?

Nikki: It would mean a lot to your father and to your sister.

Nick: [ Sighs ] I got a great life, you know? I like what I do. I have a lot of free time. Why would I want to give all that up to go back to work at newman?

Nikki: I can’t say. But it’s obvious you’ve given it a lot of thought.

Victor: Son, listen to me. It’s time that we pull together as a family, just as we did when we got rid of ashland locke. We all did our part. And then victoria delivered the final blow. She ought to be applauded for that.

Adam: Even though she deceived us all? She manipulated us, all of us. Should she be applauded for that, too?

Victor: I understand your frustration. I really do. But just remember when this was all reversed. You grew up on a farm in kansas. You went to harvard business school. You worked on wall street. You came back into this family. They didn’t know you, did they? You were an enormous threat to them. I welcomed you. I supported you. And you know I got a lot of flak from your siblings for that.

Adam: Yeah. Well, the difference is I’m still paying for my old mistakes. I mean, nothing that I’ve done to redeem myself has made a difference to them, dad. And probably nothing ever will.

Victor: Son, give it time. I think you and nicholas are moving closer to each other, aren’t you?

Adam: Yeah. I only had to give up one of my kidneys to save his daughter’s life to get there.

Victor: And that was much appreciated, okay? That was an extraordinary gesture that no one has forgotten, alright? Now, victoria will get over this.

Adam: Dad, she doesn’t trust me.

Victor: Well, son, she cannot deny the success you had at newman media. If the three of you sat together in an office —

Adam: Wait. The three of us?

Victor: Yes.

Adam: What do you mean by that?

Victor: While you stormed out of the office, victoria extended an invitation to nicholas to join the company.

Adam: In what capacity?

Victor: They didn’t discuss specifics.

Adam: [ Sighs ]

[ Clears throat ] What did nick say?

Victor: Hasn’t given a clear answer yet, but I’m hopeful. Listen to me. If the three of you can put your brains together and work together, this would become such a formidable company. Don’t you see that?

Adam: Well, I can’t argue with that. Are you tired of clean clothes that just don’t smell clean?

Chloe: Wow. Is — is that connor?

Chelsea: That’s him.

Chloe: He is getting so big.

Chelsea: He really is. I feel like just yesterday he was learning how to walk. He wasn’t any taller than my knee, and now he’s this soccer-playing giant.

Chloe: What are you feeding that kid?

Chelsea: Mostly pizza. Thank you for, uh, coming to talk to me. You didn’t have to after i snapped at you like that. I-I feel really bad.

Chloe: I know that you have been overwhelmed. You know, you’ve been under a lot of pressure, and that’s why I was advising against you taking on something big like marchetti. I wasn’t criticizing. I was just looking out for you.

Chelsea: I know. You always have my best interests at heart. But ironically, I think that’s why I feel so much pressure.

Chloe: What do you mean?

Chelsea: I feel like I owe so much. I mean, I’m obligated to you. You created this new fashion platform at newman. You gave me a place to land. You agreed to work with adam.

[ Chuckles ] You kept the peace between me and sally when victoria dropped the fashion brand. You went to lauren and created this new deal with fenmore’S. I just feel like you create all these amazing opportunities for me, and my biggest fear is i won’t be able to live up to my end of the bargain. You know, I don’t want to let you down.

Chloe: Chelsea, you could never do that.

Chelsea: Don’t be so sure. Because I made a decision.

[ Sighs ] I’m sorry, chloe, but we need to dissolve our partnership.

Nick: Thank you. You’re right. I have thought about it a lot. If I took a role in the company, I’d have a lot more say in family matters.

Nikki: Well, there have been other times when your father or victoria have tried to lure you back and you weren’t receptive. So, what’s different now?

Nick: A big part of my interest is my concern for you.

Nikki: Me?

Nick: Yeah, mom. You’re constantly in the middle of all these skirmishes. You have to tamp down all these conflicts between dad and vick, and dad and adam, and vick and adam. I mean, that’s got to take its toll on you.

Nikki: Yeah. It does. But I wouldn’t want to see you step away from new hope just for that. Believe me, I can find other ways to stay out of the fray, especially now that this crisis is over.

Nick: Well, I’m sure there’s another one right around the corner.

Nikki: I don’t know. I think things are gonna calm down for a while.

Nick: Yeah, but these lulls — they’re temporary. And I’m telling you, there’s no way ashland is gonna take this lying down. And if I’m wrong about that, this tension between adam and victoria is just gonna keep growing and growing. And it’s gonna lead to a serious problem unless somebody diffuses it. You don’t agree with me?

Nikki: I just like seeing you like this.

Nick: Like what?

Nikki: Thoughtful, loving, protective. A born leader.

Billy: When I went to summer camp as a kid, we didn’t have weekly video chats. We barely talked to our parents. That was the point. But now that I’m on the other side, I can’t wait to hear all their little stories.

Victoria: How did katie’s swim test go? I know she was really nervous about that.

Billy: She did great. She nailed it.

Victoria: Really?

Billy: Yes.

Victoria: Even the sidestroke?

Billy: Absolutely. She can’t wait to tell you about it. We do have a little problem, though. I think johnny has a crush on his counselor, and she’s 96.

Victoria: Oh, I can’t wait to hear all about that.

Billy: Mm-hmm. I have a time slot later on after dinner. You can take it if you’d like to talk to him.

Victoria: I’d love that. Thank you.

Billy: You’re welcome.

Victor: Well, I’ll be damned. If it isn’t billy boy abbott here. What are you doing here?

Billy: Oh, I’m just part of the welcome wagon. I’m sure you’re thrilled to have your daughter back.

Victor: I am, indeed, okay? Now, I need to discuss a few things with her, if you don’t mind.

Billy: Ahh. And just like that, it’s like the band’s back together. It feels like old times again. I’m not even upset that you only pretended to get out of your father’s influence.

Victor: Just for your information, old boy, victoria will never leave her family, alright? However, she has become an expert at getting rid of her toxic exes.

Victoria: Oh, by the way, thank you so much for filling me in on the kids. I really appreciate that.

Victor: By the way, how are johnny and katie?

Billy: They’re great. A couple mosquito bites, a small little battle with poison oak. Please thank your better half for sending that care package she did last week.

Victor: I shall do that.

Billy: The best part of all of this is that when they come home from camp, ashland locke will not be part of their lives.

Victor: Now, that we agree on, alright? Okay. What the hell is that idiot doing here? For heaven’s sake. Nice to come back in here and see you hard at work and only to find billy boy abbott here.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Well, like he said, it’s just like old times.

Victor: [ Sighs ] I’ve been looking at the fourth-quarter projections of our european holdings, and i think it’s about time we get rid of them.

Victoria: Daddy, um, before we dive back into work, I think that we just need to put… just everything on the table. So please be honest with me.

Victor: About what?

Victoria: How upset are you with me really?

Victor: [ Breathes deeply ] Kids can change minds…

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Victor: Before I answer your question, I have one of my own. How much did billy boy know about your plan to get revenge on ashland locke?

Victoria: Daddy, I didn’t tell him anything, nothing at all. In fact, he was furious with me. He threatened legal action. He didn’t want ashland anywhere near the kids. I’m just glad that he knows now that it’s something that I had to do.

Victor: Well, I’m very glad he didn’t know anything before because he would have blabbered about it on his sad podcast, okay? And your plan would have been ruined.

Victoria: I said the same thing to him. I think you and I really do think alike.

Victor: Why didn’t you confide in me? You know I wouldn’t betray your trust.

Victoria: No, dad, I know that. I do, but I didn’t want to put you in a position where you had to lie to mom.

Victor: Oh. Okay, that makes sense. I understand now.

Victoria: Plus, if I had told you, there’s a chance you wouldn’t have held that press conference announcing adam as ceo.

Victor: Was that helpful?

Victoria: Yes, daddy, it was instrumental. I needed ashland to see that and believe that the ties with my family had been irrevocably broken.

Victor: Now, what if nicholas hadn’t come to me and told me about your — your plan, I mean, that you were gonna meet investors? This was very risky.

Victoria: Yes. I know. It was risky. It was. But I had everything to gain, and I had nothing to lose. Unless…

Victor: Unless what?

Victoria: Unless…

[ Sighs ] I mean, do I still have my job? Or is adam now ceo?

Victor: You handled this whole thing so well. You had a plan. You executed it. You took revenge on ashland locke. Taught him a lesson he will never forget — no one threatens the newmans and gets away with it. No one. Now… I’m very proud of the way you handled it all. I’m proud of you. I’m proud of your ability to run this company. You have proven yourself in the past. You’re very capable and very strong. That answer your question?

Victoria: Yes. It does. Thank you so much for your confidence in me. I appreciate it.

[ Breathes deeply ] Now, for my first order of business, I would like to get nicholas to accept the job offer. Do you have a sense of whether he will be joining the company?

Victor: I have no clue. I mean, uh… I don’t know which way he’s leaning.

Victoria: Well, what do you think? Do you think I have a shot at bringing him here?

Victor: If anyone has a shot, I think you do.

Nikki: I have bounced back and forth between coo and co-ceo a lot lately, so if you are interested, one of those two positions would be available.

Nick: I don’t think that’s what victoria meant when she made the job offer. I think she was thinking more, you know, smaller, like an advisory role.

Nikki: Oh, no, I don’t think so. I think there’s a reason that she left it open-ended — so that you can decide where you want to fit in the organization. I mean, both the family and the company needs somebody who is grounded, who is not afraid to walk away if the price of power is too high.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] I think you’re overestimating what i bring to the table, mom.

Nikki: No. I don’T. I think you have a unique vantage point because you understand what victoria and adam are going through.

Nick: Yeah. I guess. I have fallen into the same traps.

Nikki: But you grew out of needing your father’s approval because you have the confidence in knowing that you can be a success without him, and that is very valuable to the company. I mean, you could be the moral compass.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Well, it’s not really how I see myself, but sharon said something very similar to that to me recently. She thinks I could provide some balance.

Nikki: Well, I hope that you will consider it.

Nick: Well, no matter what i decide, you have given me a lot to think about, mom.

Chloe: You don’t want to work with me anymore? I feel like that’s a bit of an overreaction to the issues that we’re having.

Chelsea: But it’s not. It’s actually the only solution because you were right.

Chloe: About what?

Chelsea: About everything.

[ Sighs ] I’m distracted. I’ve been missing deadlines. I’ve spread myself too thin.

Chloe: I could help you come up with a plan to get caught up on that.

Chelsea: It’s really sweet of you to offer. But the truth is, I’m not emotionally prepared to throw myself into launching this business. And I didn’t want to admit it to myself that I wasn’t ready. I didn’t want to admit it to my best friend, who’s poured everything into making this work. I mean, you put your heart and soul into this line. But…the longer I pretend, the more defensive I get and the more damage I will cause our friendship.

[ Sighs ] I’m really sorry, chloe. Can you ever forgive me?

Chloe: I would just hate for you to give up on your dreams.

Chelsea: But that’s not what this is. I think I’ve just — I’ve think I’ve been trying to make everyone else happy for so long, you know, be the old version of myself. And maybe I’ll get there eventually. Or maybe I’ll go in a different direction entirely. I just know I don’t have it in me to give this business my full focus, and that’s what it requires right now. Are you furious with me?

Chloe: No. No. I am not. I… I’ve been really worried about you. I knew something was wrong, and if this is what you need to do to take care of yourself, then i support you 100%.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Chloe: So, do you want me to relay the news to lauren and summer?

Chelsea: That’s okay. I have a meeting on the books with lauren. I will tell her, I will void the deal with fenmore’s, and then i will let summer and kyle know i am turning down the marchetti deal.

Chloe: Well, I think they’ll appreciate hearing from you.

Chelsea: You sure you’re not upset with me? I know how excited you were to get up and running.

Chloe: I’m not angry. A little brokenhearted, yes. But I think it’s better to lose the business partnership than to lose our friendship. And till now, I think that that’s where we were headed. And thank you for having the guts to face what you’re going through — and for being honest with me.

Chelsea: Well, thank you for being so understanding. And, you know, I would not have made this decision, except i knew that you were gonna be in high demand. Everyone’s gonna be dying to work with you, with your skill set. I mean, do you know what you want to do next or…?

Chloe: I have some ideas.

Chelsea: Could I help in any way? I’ll be glad to make some calls for you.

Chloe: No, no, no. Don’t worry about me. I’ll figure something out.

Victor: You know that I’ve always hoped that nicholas will join the company. If you had asked me a few weeks ago if he were inclined to do so, I would have said there’s not a chance in hell. But I think things are different now.

Victoria: How?

Victor: Seems to me he’s prioritizing his family more than he has in a long, long time. A telling sign was that he came to me to warn me of your plan to meet with investors. He was willing to risk your anger to help you, to help the family.

Victoria: I know.

Victor: You know that I’ve always impressed upon you kids that loyalty within a family is the most important part. And I think what he did is exemplary of that loyalty, okay? He knows what’s good for the family now.

Victoria: Well, I haven’t always appreciated nick’s brand of loyalty, but I do intend to make up for that now.

Victor: Now, along those same lines, I hope that you will show some appreciation for adam and what he can contribute.

Victoria: Yes. Well, that’s something to think about. Do you expect that adam will hang around?

Victor: Well, let me ask you. Do you think he will just walk away?

Billy: You know, come to think of it, I was never able to buy you that celebratory drink for your new position as ceo. Now, with victoria back in town, unfortunately for you, you will no longer be in charge.

Adam: Oh, go to hell, billy.

Billy: Did you even get a chance to unpack? Or does the nameplate on the office door just keep revolving?

Adam: Are you enjoying yourself?

Billy: Yes. Immensely. Let me ask you one more question — because I’ve lost count. How many times is it now that your father’s given you the hook?

Adam: Don’t you have a dark room to go sit in?

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Adam: So you can record your little pathetic ramblings for your podcast?

Billy: Got to give it to victoria. I mean, she crushed it. Not only did she get rid of locke, but she got all the money back and she sent you packing. That right there is a true trifecta.

Chloe: Sally. It’s chloe. I’ve been giving your offer a lot of thought, and I was hoping we could get together and discuss it further.

Victoria: Dad, please don’t make me feel guilty a– about not being enthusiastic to work with adam. Clearly, he feels the same way about me, given the way that he stormed out of the family meeting. I mean, he can’t even stand to be in the same room with me. That doesn’t exactly make for a healthy working relationship.

Victor: Sweetheart, don’t you understand that he’s very frustrated right now?

Victoria: Look, I get it. I get it. I understand where he’s coming from. He feels entitled to run the company, never mind the fact that he hasn’t integrated chanccomm and newman media. That’s a work in progress, but he just wants to wash his hands of the whole thing and move on to bigger and better things.

Victor: I think it is in your best interest to take what he has to say seriously, alright?

Victoria: Of course. I’m always willing to listen, but I’m not gonna be a fool and let my guard down. I’m not gonna do that. Adam is constantly trying to undermine me.

Victor: I made it very clear to him that it is in his best interest to remain loyal.

Victoria: Do you really think he cares about that?

Victor: Sweetheart… he has been working very hard to be accepted by this family. He is not gonna do anything to jeopardize that.

Billy: Have you broken the news to sally yet, that she’s about to get demoted so you can take your old job back? Might be trouble in paradise. She might feel like she bet on the wrong horse.

Adam: I notice you’re using a lot of gambling phrases today, billy. Are you reverting back to your old ways?

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Oh, buddy, you can’t distract me today. Nope. I get to sit back and watch you fail spectacularly. You lose your big job, possibly your girl, and that little bit of respect that victor had for you.

Adam: Oh, boy, it must be the happiest day of your life.

Billy: It’s pretty up there. It stings, doesn’t it? Your plan to get rid of locke cost you half a billion dollars, and it didn’t work. You needed your sister to come in and clean things up for you. You must be in a world of hurt, with your back up against the wall.

Adam: That’s right. I do. But you of all people should know that’s when I’m most dangerous.

Diane: Oh! It seems we can’t stop running into each other today. What are the odds?

Phyllis: Well, they’re pretty high since you came to my hotel to use the spa. Did you have a good time?

Diane: Oh, yes, I did. And now that I know I’m welcome, I’ll be sure and stop by on a more regular basis.

Phyllis: Well, we’re happy to have you. No need to thank me.

Diane: Thank you for what?

Phyllis: Well, for having an area that provides a friendly face. I mean, I’m sure you’re still getting a very chilly reception from the people in Genoa City.

Diane: Hmm.

Phyllis: People here hold a grudge.

Diane: Well, that’s okay because I have unlimited patience.

Phyllis: Do you?

Diane: Yes. Even if the rest of this town never comes around, I will be just fine — because I’m connecting with my son and my grandson and the Abbotts, especially Jack, who is starting to accept that I will be part of the family.

****************************

Jack: And clearly she’s amused by something.

Allie: Oh, it’s, uh — it’s Noah.

Jack: Noah? Again? Boy, you two are getting pretty close.

Allie: [Chuckles] No, we’re not getting “close,” close. No, no. Oh, you know, what am I saying? I should just stop talking.

[Laughs]

Jack: I get it. I understand.

Allie: No, it just doesn’t feel like a conversation i should be having with my grandfather.

Jack: You know what? I’m just a regular guy. You can talk to me about anything.

Allie: Okay, well, Noah and I — we — we’re hanging out. But that’s all. From tomorrow on, I am gonna be focusing strictly on work.

Jack: Well, I certainly hope not. I hope you’re gonna have some fun, too. Look, I’m sure you’re gonna be a great intern, hardworking and all that, but I don’t want you locked away in a lab. The sun is out. It’s summer. You should be having fun. God knows I did when I was your age.

Allie: Okay, again, this feels like a conversation you shouldn’t be having with your granddaughter.

Jack: Okay, okay. I’ll respect your boundaries. All I’m saying is, if having fun means spending time with Noah or with your friends, I am all for it. For what it’s worth, I think Noah’s a good guy. And I know what you’ve been through, and it makes me happy to see you smile.

Abby: Opening a hotel across from the Grand Phoenix seemed like a great idea, but there were just so many issues with it, I had to give up on the whole thing.

Lily: Oh, let me guess. Was Phyllis part of the problem?

Abby: Let’s just say that she was the problem.

***********************

Elena: Mmm. I’m gonna miss you, too. But I’m gonna send you lots of updates, and I’m gonna bring you some sand from beautiful Hawaii.

Nate: And I promise, the next trip you take is gonna be a full-on vacation. No work, no distractions.

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, i realize it’s a holiday weekend. I realize that. So, let’s look at this as — i don’t know — a challenge as opposed to a setback. So, this is what you need to do. You need to e-mail our regular spa clients, and you need to tell them about our state-of-the-art equipment, alright? I spent a lot of money on this stuff, and if we don’t get people in there, well, you’re not gonna have much of a staff left. Exactly. Inspirational. I like that. That was inspirational. I got to get back to you. Hey, Diane. You need a bell around your neck.

[Clears throat] What can I help you with?

Diane: Well, I’m so glad you asked. In light of our recent truce, i thought it’d be wonderful if i could go back to having full access of your top-of-the-line gym and spa.

Phyllis: Why? I hear that the athletic club has more than adequate equipment for, you know, the average guest.

Diane: [Sighs] We can be honest with each other, can’t we, now that we’re family? Your equipment is a cut above, and Astrid’s massages have made a new woman out of me.

Phyllis: Um… I can’t help you. I’m really sorry. We have an agreement with the athletic club that they don’t poach our clients, we don’t poach theirs. Besides, we are all booked up.

Diane: Oh. Huh. Funny you should say that because I could have sworn i just heard you complaining that you were desperate for customers.

Phyllis: I was not saying that, that I was a desperate for customers. I just — you misunderstood. Diane, we have the right to refuse service to anyone.

Diane: [Scoffs] You don’t have any grounds to do that where I’m concerned. I’m wearing shoes, I’m not drunk, and I’m certainly not being disruptive.

Phyllis: Um, you were escorted off the premises before.

Diane: Oh, but, Phyllis, that was back when we were bitter rivals. If that ban still holds, then that means our truce isn’t really real. I would hate to think our détente was just on paper, and i know other people would be disappointed, too

*********************

Noah: How do you feel about surprises?

Allie: In general, I hate them. They’re very unpredictable. But I can try to be open-minded.

Allie: Hi. You wanted to see me?

Jack: Yes. I have some good news. Everything is finalized for you to start your internship at jabot. You can start tomorrow.

Allie: Oh, I am so excited, jack, and so grateful for you for making this happen.

Jack: Well, my actions aren’t completely benevolent. I have my own motives for wanting to help you.

Allie: Oh?

Jack: Well, yeah, the happier, the more settled you are, the more likely you are to stay in genoa city longer, maybe even make this home. And I would like that very much.

Kyle: Mwah!

Summer: Thank you for coming early. I wanted to talk to you before your parents got here.

Kyle: What’s wrong?

Summer: I saw my mom earlier, and I finally got her to admit what happened between her and jack.

Kyle: Yeah. I talked to my dad. He told me the whole story.

Summer: [ Sighs ] I managed to keep it together in front of my mom, but I am so upset that my mom used her relationship with jack to make a statement. She just could not resist rubbing diane’s nose in it. She didn’t stop to think for one second how that might affect jack.

[ Scoffs ] It’s just — it’s so disappointing.

Kyle: Yeah. Phyllis has a special talent for shooting herself in the foot and inadvertently taking other people down with her.

Summer: I mean, you’re not wrong, but I know that my mom really cares about jack. And I think that he feels the same way about her? She regrets so much about what happened, and I know that she would do anything to make it up to him. I’m just hoping that jack can find it in his heart to forgive her.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Summer: What, you don’t think my mom deserves another chance?

Chloe: Thanks so much. Oh. Hello?

Sally: Chloe. I’m so glad I reached you. I just wanted to apologize for having to run off before we could finish our conversation

Chloe: Not a problem. It’s the life of a ceo.

Sally: You’re telling me. I had a conference call and a few meetings that tied me up until now. But I would love to talk more.

Chloe: So would I. I have some free time now, if that works for you.

Sally: It does. But I don’t think we should do it over the phone. Can you swing by the office?

Chloe: I’ll be right over.

Sally: Excellent. And I promise it will be worth your while.

Adam: So, what exactly did you accomplish with ashland?

Victoria: I righted every wrong.

Adam: [ Scoffs ] That’s a grand statement. Would you care to elaborate on that?

Nikki: I would like to hear all about that, too, but what matters most to me is that you’re safe and back where you belong.

Victor: Well, I couldn’t agree more…if that is true.

Victoria: It is. I cut ashland out of my life, and I made him pay dearly for what he did. And now I’m home for good.

Victor: [ Breathes deeply ] So happy to have you back, my sweetheart.

Nikki: We all are, darling. Kids can change minds…

provided by… my blood pressure is borderline.

Victor: Well, now, I think we are all very curious to hear all about it.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Well, after the hell that ashland put me through, I decided that I had to end the nightmare on my own terms and in my own way. And in order to pull that off, i had to make sure that ashland believed with complete certainty that I was willing to turn my back on the family and newman enterprises.

Victor: Why, sweetheart, i wish you had let us in on your plans. It would have saved all of us a hell of a lot of heartache.

Victoria: Daddy, I couldn’t risk ashland finding out. That’s why I couldn’t let any of you in on my plans. And I’m sorry that I had to put you through that. But I had to make a clean break.

Nikki: So, does that mean that you never believed ashland’s claims that your love changed him? Was that an act?

Victoria: I do believe that ashland loved me, as much as a man like him is capable of love. And I believe that he was sorry for what he did to me. But it wasn’t enough to see past his massive betrayal and deception.

Nick: Well, thank god.

Victoria: Look, whether or not ashland loved me, it doesn’t matter. He is who he is. He’s a man who built his entire empire on lies. And ashland is never gonna change. He doesn’t deserve forgiveness, and he certainly doesn’t deserve the generous payoff that dad gave him in hopes that he would disappear, which he didn’t do until I agreed to go with him. Honestly, I wish that you would have let me handle this on my own. But the point is, I’ve rectified everything. It’s done. And right now I just want to say thank you to all of you because I don’t think my plan would have been successful without those of you who truly love me.

Allie: Jack, you’ve made me feel at home the moment i arrived.

Jack: Well, that’s been easy because I’ve loved having you here.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Allie: [ Laughs ]

Jack: And clearly she’s amused by something.

Allie: Oh, it’s, uh — it’s noah.

Jack: Noah? Again? Boy, you two are getting pretty close.

Allie: [ Chuckles ] No, we’re not getting “close,” close. No, no. Oh, you know, what am I saying? I should just stop talking.

[ Laughs ]

Kyle: I would never say phyllis doesn’t deserve a second chance. I mean, how could I when I’m giving my mother one? And I get that she has sincere regrets and wishes she could do it all over again and — I know my dad still has feelings for her.

Summer: Then why don’t you think they should give it another try?

Kyle: She hurt him…bad. And their history — it can’t be ignored. It took a lot for him to put himself out there again, to believe that things would be different this time. After talking to him and seeing how wounded he is, I just don’t see how there’s a way for them to get back together.

Summer: [ Sighs ] I hear you. I feel terrible for my mom. But I get it. I just wonder how this is gonna affect everyone going forward, especially with diane working with us at marchetti. I know that our mother has made a truce, but —

Kyle: Yeah, it definitely seems more tenuous now that we know what’s going on.

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: I don’t think the conflict between phyllis and my mother is over.

Summer: I’m afraid that it’s only gonna get worse.

Diane: I’m amazed at how things have changed since I came back. And I am downright happy with the way things are going.

Phyllis: That’s — nah. I’m not gonna do that. Nope. Nope. No.

Diane: You okay?

Phyllis: I’m fine. Thanks.

Diane: Yeah, I was just saying that it’s just so great that michael and I are friends again and kyle has opened his heart. And summer — oh, she couldn’t be more supportive.

Phyllis: [ Clears throat ] My daughter is very gracious.

Diane: Yes, she’s a wonderful partner for my son.

Phyllis: Yes, your son is very lucky to have my daughter.

Diane: Oh, and jack — I mean, he and I are connecting on a deeper and more mature level than I ever, ever could have imagined.

Phyllis: Are you kidding me?! Are you serious right now? God, you are so out of touch. You delusional if you think that you and jack are ever, ever gonna have a romantic relationship. It is never, ever going to happen. If you have type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure

Diane: [ Scoffs ] Who said anything about romance? Your mind went straight there because you expected jack to forgive and forget and take you back like he’s done too many times before. And now you’re terrified because he finally wants nothing to do with you, and you have no one to blame but yourself. It must be making you insane.

Phyllis: I’m not gonna let you bait me, diane. I’m not gonna do that.

Diane: That’s not what I’m doing. I’m simply telling the truth.

Phyllis: I don’t believe anything that comes out of your mouth.

Diane: Well, it’s not just me. Everyone in your life can see what’s going on. Even your own daughter can see who you really are.

Jack: Well, I won’t keep you any longer.

Allie: Oh, I actually don’t have any plans.

Jack: I’m guessing that’ll change by the time you get back to noah. Anyway, I got a meeting I have to get to. Remember — you have to start work tomorrow. You’re a working woman now. Enjoy tonight. And that’s my grandfatherly advice.

Allie: [ Laughs ]

[ Cellphone chimes ]

[ Keys jangle ]

[ Knock on door ]

Sally: Come in!

Chloe: Wow. Seeing you behind that desk looks right. This job suits you.

Sally: Well, thank you. I think so, too, if I do say so myself. So…how are you doing? You seemed pretty upset before, and rightfully so.

Chloe: Well, I feel like i was, uh, on the verge of a mental breakdown, so that’s an understatement, but I — I was very appreciative of you offering a sympathetic ear.

Sally: Yeah, well, you’ve seemed like you’ve needed one lately.

Chloe: You know, it’s just been… every time chelsea and I get together, things just keep getting worse. We are constantly bickering and fighting and making each other tense. And normally, you know, we’re finishing each other’s sentences, and lately I just feel like we’re both speaking two different languages.

Sally: Well, what do you think has changed?

Chloe: It’s — I don’t know. It’s a mix of things. I love chelsea with all of my heart, and we’ve always been there for each other. I mean, we have been through so much together, you have no idea.

Sally: You’ve made that crystal clear. And I know a true best friend is hard to come by. And I just want you to know I’m not gonna dissect your friendship or pry into what’s going on with chelsea personally. I — I just want to talk about you…and your thoughts on your future. I just want to know if you actually want out of your professional partnership with chelsea or if that was just something that was said in the heat of the moment.

Chloe: Well, actually, I’ve been giving it a lot of thought, you know, what is best for both me and chelsea. And I was curious what you meant when you said about a possible alternative. Have you heard about an open position with another fashion label?

Sally: [ Breathes deeply ] I have something better in mind. I would love for you to come back and work here with me.

Victoria: I mentioned to nicholas that ashland and I were meeting with potential investors for a business venture, hoping that he would deliver that news to dad.

Nick: Which I did.

Victoria: And I’m grateful for that.

Nick: And I’m relieved because I really thought dad should hear what you had to tell me, but I really didn’t want to let you down.

Victoria: Well, I was counting on you to do the right thing, and you came through for me. Dad, once you knew, I was guessing that you would try to track down those investors and squash any possible deals.

Nikki: And here I was worried that you would be furious with him. You certainly know your father.

Victoria: Well, we do think the same. And I knew that he would want to stop me from making what he would consider a very foolish decision.

Victor: You’re exactly right.

Victoria: Once you conveniently killed any possibility of any outside funding, I came up with the idea to convince ashland that we should invest our own money. So then I opened a corporate bank account that we both had direct access to, and i deposited $250 million of my own money into that account. I know it was risky, but then ashland took the bait. And he deposited $250 million of his money, the money that dad gave him. Then, behind his back, i transferred that sum into my private account and I closed the corporate one. I can return your portion whenever you’d like.

Victor: And he never saw it coming?

Victoria: Not for one minute.

Victor: I like that. I like that a lot.

This is john.

Nick: Well, I can’t imagine ashland took it very well knowing he was being played all along. Or does he even know yet?

Victoria: Oh, he knows. After I drained the account and I packed my bags, I dropped all pretense and I let him know in blistering detail what I had done and how I truly felt.

Nikki: Oh, darling, what that must have been like for you.

Victoria: It was both painful and cathartic.

Adam: Mm.

Victoria: I was hurt by what happened, and I still am, but… in that moment, getting revenge — it was — it was exhilarating. It was a moment of triumph.

Nick: And how was it for ashland?

Victoria: It was a crushing and devastating final blow. I have never seen him look so defeated.

Victor: Sweetheart, no one deserves it more than that bastard. The fact that you turned what obviously was a devious plan on his part back on him — I admire you for that. You’re my daughter, alright. You not only did that for yourself, but you did that for all of us. I love that.

Chloe: I don’t know what i expected when you mentioned another possible career move, but I never expected you to make me a job offer, especially since there’s no longer a fashion platform here. Unless you plan to bring it back?

Sally: There are no plans to do that. This is just about me wanting to create my own team at newman media, and you check all the boxes, especially the s’S.

Chloe: The s’s?

Sally: Smart, scrappy, and savvy. You’re the kind of person that i want to work with, someone who shares my vision. And when we worked together before, we really connected.

Chloe: I-I totally agree. But this is a completely different scenario. What exactly would I be doing?

Sally: You would be helping me run the company as my right-hand woman and… chief operating officer.

Chloe: Are you serious?

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Chloe: You’re serious?

Sally: Deadly. I am ready to order your nameplate for your office door — “chloe mitchell, coo of newman media.” Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?

Chloe: [ Laughs ]

Phyllis: Keep my daughter out of this.

Diane: I’m just being honest. I know for a fact that summer feels that jack deserves better than you have to offer. I overheard her saying as much in the hotel.

Phyllis: You overheard her? What are you doing, spying on me?

Diane: No, not at all. I came back to the lobby, and i caught part of your conversation.

Phyllis: Wow, that’s a coincidence.

Diane: You know, phyllis, i hope for your sake and sanity that you eventually come to accept reality. Jack is never going to love you again. He’s never going to trust you again. He’s never going to think of you as anything but conniving and duplicitous.

Phyllis: That’s actually you, not me.

Diane: Oh, except…I’m the one who’s winning, and you, once again, are out in the cold.

Phyllis: I will never lose… ever!

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Phyllis: Oh, good. Good. I hope you saw that. I hope you saw every single thing, that she was the aggressor. Jack — jack, I was holding it back. I was keeping myself together, until just now.

Jack: I did see that she seemed to be pushing your buttons. I wish she hadn’t done that, but —

Phyllis: But she crossed the line.

Jack: I came upon the two of you mid-conversation. I have no idea what you might have done to provoke her.

Phyllis: Oh, my god. Oh, uh, are you kidding? What i did to provoke her?!

Jack: It wouldn’t have been the first time.

Phyllis: Wait a second. Miss “I came back from the dead” gets a free pass?! But I don’t get the benefit of the doubt?! Seriously!? I don’t understand you. What was going on between us was amazing. It could have been so great.

Jack: I think you know why it can’T.

Phyllis: I do! I have taken responsibility for every single thing. That bitch has taken responsibility for nothing that she’s ever done to me! And everything went to hell when she came back into town, with her intrusion and toxicity. But that doesn’t matter to you. You can’t even see it! Open your eyes! Open your eyes. It is everywhere. Let me tell you something. Let me tell you something. One day you’re gonna realize that you made a mistake. You will realize that. And you’ll want me back. And you’ll realize that you missed out on something really great, jack. But it will be too late.

Diane: I hope I didn’t keep you too long.

Kyle: Well, we got here a little early. We had a lot of ground to cover.

Summer: As much as I love society’s atmosphere — and their empanadas — I’m looking forward to having a proper office space.

Diane: Have you decided on a location for the new marchetti offices?

Kyle: Mm, we’re gonna work out of the jabot building once the reorganization of the space is finished. Shouldn’t take too long.

Diane: Well, that will be convenient, being under the same roof as jack — and — and — and jabot headquarters.

Kyle: Yeah, we think it was the right call.

Diane: Yeah. This is all so exciting. And I can’t wait to start work. I am humbled by the opportunity. I feel like things are finally, finally starting to settle down for me in genoa city.

Adam: Look, with all due respect, we need to address how things are gonna work at the company.

Victor: Son, I understand your concern, but right now, let us celebrate what your sister has done. It’s just extraordinary. Okay?

Nick: I think celebrating is premature. Uh, as much as I’d like to think that ashland locke is gonna slither away quietly, that’s not who he is. He’s gonna be looking for a fight. I guarantee you this is not the last we’ve heard of ashland locke. I mean, what’s gonna stop him from coming after the money he lost or his part of the company after he was betrayed?

Victoria: Because I told him in no uncertain terms that i would expose his cancer fraud if he did. His reputation, if this news gets out, in the business world will drop down to zero. He won’t be able to get a job fetching coffee, let alone start his own company. His name will be utterly ruined.

Nick: I know we think we’ve got him backed into a corner right now, and I really admire what you did, vick, but he’s got nothing to lose. He doesn’t have you. He doesn’t have dad’s money. He doesn’t have his company. What’s stopping him from going on the attack just out of pure revenge? For people who are a little intense about hydration.

Chloe: You really caught me by surprise. I have a lot of questions.

Sally: Shoot.

Chloe: For starters, what does adam think about me becoming coo?

Sally: Well, I have already ran it past him, and he supports it.

Chloe: Okay, I think I’m gonna need a definition for the word “support.”

Sally: As in champion, aid, help. And I’m sure the second thing you’re asking yourself is, “why would he do that?” Well, first of all, adam trusts my judgment. And second, as the ceo of newman enterprises, he wants the company to succeed. So, if I think hiring you is what’s best for newman media, then he’s gonna go along with it. And you’re gonna be reporting to me, not adam. So, whatever personal issues are going on between you two will not be an issue.

Chloe: Sorry. It’s just — it’s a lot to process, and I am extremely flattered by the offer. It’s just a bit overwhelming.

Sally: Look, I had my own internal debate about taking on a bigger role here. But in the end, I went with my gut, which is exactly what I am doing now with you.

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

Sally: I have a lot to prove. And you probably do, too, which can be daunting. But I absolutely believe that we can accomplish great things together. I know that we would make a fantastic team and that you are the right person for this job.

Chloe: I just don’t know how you could be so confident when I’m not.

Sally: Because I’ve witnessed it. I mean, look how far we took newman fashion. It was on the cusp of serious greatness before victoria pulled the plug. And there are definite parallels between selling fashion and selling content. They are both creative endeavors aimed at enticing the public to want their product. You’re brilliant at marketing, branding, and social media. You are always on top of the current trends, and you’re not afraid to color outside the lines whenever the occasion calls for it.

Chloe: Okay, well, I don’t disagree with you there.

[ Chuckles ] I’m — I’m just used to working for a smaller business with just a handful of employees, and this would entail supervising a ton of people and overseeing a huge budget.

Sally: All of which you can handle. I think you’re capable of more than you realize. But you’re never gonna be able to make that happen if you don’t challenge yourself.

Chloe: I am — I am humbled by how much faith you have in me, especially after the way things fell apart when newman fashion shut down and chelsea and I moved on without you.

Sally: All of that is water under the bridge as far as I’m concerned. I know that you were caught in the middle of an awkward situation, and I understand why you made the choice that you did. As you can see, I am right where I’m supposed to be. Newman media is where I belong. And it’s where you belong, too. You can shine bright here. All you have to do is say yes.

Victor: I got to be honest with all of you. I love that challenge. I love the idea of ashland locke coming after us. Let that bastard give us his best shot. Bring it on. You know why? We have never been as united as a family as we are now.

Victoria: I agree. Ashland has no viable options. Like I said, it would betupibebebebebebebebebebebebebebebebebebe for him to come after us.

Nikki: I still think we need to keep our eyes open and hope that he is smart enough to realize this is not a battle he should take on. In any event, I don’t want tooooooooooooooooe any more time worrying about what he may or may not do. And I agree with your father that, together, we are unstoppable.

Adam: Well, as much as i would love to stay here and celebrate the family reunification and ashland’s downfall, I have more important things to deal with.

[ Door slams ]

Victor: I will, uh, deal with him later, okay?

Nikki: There’s something else I want to know. Nicholas mentioned that earlier when you spoke, you said that there would be changes. What did you mean by that?

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Allie: Hello. Can I order a coffee, black, please?

Phyllis: Allie.

Allie: Phyllis. Hey.

Phyllis: Hey.

Allie: How’s it going?

Phyllis: It’s going great.

Allie: That’s awesome.

Phyllis: Yeah. Would you like to join me?

Allie: Oh, you know, I would, but I’m supposed to be meeting noah here somewhere.

Phyllis: Oh, okay. Well, you beat him here.

Allie: [ Chuckles ] Guess i did.

Phyllis: Yeah. You want to kill some time with me?

Jack: Sorry I’m late.

Summer: We’ll catch you up on everything you missed.

Jack: Yeah. Go ahead.

Diane: We were wondering what was keeping you.

Kyle: Dad? Is everything okay? Hey, it’s me…your skin.

Allie: You know, it’s funny, phyllis. I haven’t seen you in quite a bit. I figured you and I would have ran into each other at the abbott house before now.

Phyllis: Right, right. Well, um, I was out of town, and since I’ve been home, it’s just been crazy busy.

Allie: Oh, really?

Phyllis: Anyway, how are you doing? I bet it’s a whirlwind for you ever since you arrived from L.A., Right?

Allie: [ Laughs ] Yeah, it’s definitely been a lot of change.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Allie: Yeah. My whole life is basically going in an entirely different direction than I ever thought it would.

Phyllis: Wow. Wow. Well, genoa city — it seems to agree with you.

Allie: Yeah. Yeah, more than I expected.

Phyllis: You deserve happiness. You’ve been through so much, you know, your dad’s passing and…you know, changing citi– anyway, tell me what it’s like living here and living at the abbott house.

Allie: [ Laughs ]

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. What is that like? How are you getting along with everyone? Jack and everyone? Just tell me everything.

Jack: I’m fine. I just got caught up talking to allie. Uh, I’ve got a million things on my mind right now. I apologize. I’m — why don’t we get down to business?

Kyle: Okay. First thing — we have set up a press conference for jabot to announce the purchase of marchetti and that I will be taking over the role as ceo of the fashion house.

Jack: Good, good. It has to be splashy.

Diane: Oh, I have some ideas about that from a P.R. Perspective. I was thinking maybe we leak the news to some high-end, sophisticated fashion sites first. Let the rumor mill create some guessing about whether or not the deal is going to happen. Then, when we do have the press conference, the buzz will be at a fever pitch.

Summer: I think it’s a great idea. The fashion industry loves to gossip.

Kyle: I like it.

Jack: Yeah. Yeah. It’s good.

Kyle: This job already seems like it’s a good fit for you, mother.

Diane: Well, I am willing to do whatever it takes, work day and night to do a good job and make you proud. There is no place that I’d rather be.

Chloe: Please know that I am so grateful for this opportunity.

Sally: So, does this mean that you are accepting the offer?

Adam: Sally?

[ Sighs ] Hey, chloe.

Chloe: Hi, adam.

Adam: I’m interrupting.

Chloe: No. No, no, no. I was — I was just leaving.

Sally: We were just discussing the coo position.

Adam: Ah.

Chloe: And I’m gonna take some time and get back to you, if that’s okay. I don’t meant to be wish-washy. I think it’s an incredibly interesting offer. I just want to make sure that I’m ready to make a move, and i need to see if I can still fix things on my end.

Sally: Yeah, I completely understand, but I hope to hear from you soon.

Chloe: You will. I promise.

Sally: Okay. Spill. What the hell happened?

Adam: Oh, my family never ceases to amaze me. They fall all over each other talking about love and loyalty and being a united front. They give each other proud looks and compliments like I’m not even in the room.

Sally: Okay. Well, you’ve set the tone, so now give me the specifics.

Adam: Victoria’s back, and they pulled the rug out from under me…again. But if they think that I’m going to sit down and take it — mnh-mnh — they are in for a rude awakening.

Victoria: You know, I know that you all know how important it has been for me to find balance between who I am on my own and who I am as a newman. Look, I know that I’ve pushed you away from time to time because sometimes I felt like i had to fight to maintain my sense of self, especially by running the family company. But after everything that’s happened with ashland, I… I realize that I didn’t have to fight for those things that I — I already had. I know that you want my happiness and my success as much as I want it for myself. And I’m whole and complete because of my family. Your advice and your guidance have kept me strong, and they have helped me to forge my identity. And, nicholas, going through this whole ordeal with you, i realized something. I realized that, no matter what, you have my back. You’re the best brother and the best friend that I could ever ask for. I’m just — I’m so thankful for all of your help and your support through this incredibly difficult period. But now [Sighs] More than ever I — I want us to come together as a team to run newman enterprises, dad as my consigliere, the wisest and most amazing of all advisors, and mom, my partner and my collaborator. And, nicholas, I think that it’s finally time that you consider coming back into the fold.

Adam: Huh? Nikki. Thought you’d still be on that call with the hong kong office.

Nikki: Well, I wrapped it up quickly so I could be here in time for victoria’s return. Do you know if she and victor are on their way back from the airport yet?

Adam: Um… I’m sorry. But this is the first I’ve heard about victoria’s big homecoming taking place right here. Guess that’s very telling, isn’t it?

Nikki: I don’t know what you mean by that.

Adam: [ Sighs ] Well, both the location and the fact that I was not informed says a lot.

Nikki: Nobody is intentionally keeping anything from you, if that’s what you’re implying.

Adam: Alright, well, then tell me what you know.

Nikki: My daughter is returning home. That’s all I’ve heard. What do you expect?

Adam: I just thought you might have an idea of what my future might be… since, apparently, victoria is coming home to roost.

Billy: Hey, vick, it’s me. Listen, [Sighs] I’m just calling to make sure that you’re alright. I ran into your family, and it’s pretty clear that they are keeping a secret about you. So can you just let me know that — that you’re okay? Please, call, text, do whatever. Just checking in. Thanks.

[ Sighs ]

[ Knock on door ]

Nick: Vick, I was so happy to get your message. Of course, I’ll meet you anywhere, but why here? Why in a hotel? What’s going on? What’s the big mystery?

Victoria: [ Chuckles ]

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Elena: Nate? What are you doing here? Thought I texted you everything — my flight, my hotel, my itinerary. Did I miss anything?

Nate: No. I got it all. I just… came home to say “aloha.”

Elena: Wow. You know, “aloha” means both “hello” and “goodbye.”

Nate: I think it’s also a way of expressing affection, compassion, love, all of which I’m feeling for you right now.

Elena: And I feel the same way about you. Especially right now, the way you’re looking at me.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Elena: But I have a flight to catch.

Nate: That’s why i double-checked the itinerary you sent me, and by my calculations, I came home just in time for a more meaningful goodbye.

[ Chuckles ]

Nate: [ Clears throat ]

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: Hello, man.

Devon: Oh.

Chance: How you doing?

Devon: It’s good to see you.

Chance: Yeah, you too. Guess we had the same idea about how to spend this beautiful summer day.

Devon: I know, it’s too nice to not be outside. How have you been, though? You seem like you’re doing a lot better with yourself these days.

Chance: Yeah. I’ll tell you what. Why don’t you race me around this park? If you beat me, I’ll tell you. A deal?

Devon: Race you.

Chance: Okay?

Devon: Okay, sure.

Chance: Come on.

Devon: [ Grunts ]

[ Indistinct conversation ]

Lily: Hey. Sorry if I kept you guys waiting.

Amanda: Hey. No, no, not at all. We actually just got here ourselves.

Lily: Oh, good. Okay. Oh, I know you’ve been seeing your mom a lot. How is she doing?

Imani: I just got back from seeing her for the first time since she had her stroke. She’s still struggling with her speech and mobility.

Amanda: Yeah, but we’re not just worried about her physical state. We’re also worried about her psychological state. You know, seeing her in that hospital bed, just stuck there.

Imani: But it definitely seems to lift her spirits when one of us comes to visit.

Lily: Yeah, I’m sure. I’m sure she loves having you both there. And look, if you ever want to take time off to go see her, please feel free, because, honestly, family comes first.

Imani: Thanks, lily.

Amanda: Thank you so much. We really appreciate it.

Lily: Yeah, of course.

Abby: Hello, ladies.

Lily: Hello.

Amanda: Hello.

Abby: Chancellor-winters must be flying high after that successful launch party. You must be pleased with the way it all turned out.

Amanda: We could not have done it without you. You stepped in seamlessly for phyllis. Didn’t miss a beat.

Abby: Well, it felt good being back in the saddle. You know, hosting a big event like that, I didn’t realize how much I missed it.

Lily: Oh, I meant to ask you, whatever happened to you opening a hotel across from the grand phoenix?

Abby: Oh, it’s a long story.

Lily: Okay, well, I’m definitely up for hearing it, ’cause I’m considering a similar plan of my own. Kids can change minds…

Nate: Aloha, baby.

Abby: Opening a hotel across from the grand phoenix seemed like a great idea, but there were just so many issues with it, I had to give up on the whole thing.

Lily: Oh, let me guess. Was phyllis part of the problem?

Abby: Let’s just say that she was the problem.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: She fought me tooth and nail from the very beginning.

Amanda: She just didn’t like the idea of a competing hotel in such close proximity.

Abby: Oh, and you know phyllis. She just had to take it to the extreme.

Amanda: Okay, I guess that can be phyllis’ style. But what were you thinking?

Lily: Uh, well, I just wanted to revisit the idea of bringing another hotel to town.

Amanda: Really? Why?

Lily: Well, ’cause, you know, devon sold the athletic club, and I thought we’d need a place to have visiting talent stay. So then I thought, you know, we could also have corporate conferences or events, even concerts to showcase our talent.

Imani: Hmm.

Lily: I don’t know, maybe i could build an even grander phoenix in genoa city.

[ Light laughter ]

Nikki: Adam, I assure you, i know nothing about what victoria is planning once she returns home. I have not been in contact with her since she left. I don’t even know if she’s coming home for good.

Adam: Well, I double-checked with the pilot for the newman jet, and victoria was definitely the only passenger on board. And there are no plans to have a return flight, pick up ashland, or fly victoria back.

Nikki: Well, I wish that were concrete proof that she is completely done with him, but I’m not gonna let myself believe that until I hear it come out of her mouth. I mean, for all I know, she’s just coming back here to chew out her father for blocking her new business venture with ashland.

Adam: Wait a minute. Dad blocked her new business venture?

[ Sighs, chuckles ] W-was there anything that dad didn’t do to pave the way for victoria’s glorious return?

Victoria: Oh, missed you, too.

[ Sighs ] I would have met you at the house, but I’m having it deep-cleaned before I move back in, to symbolically remove any remnants of ashland.

Nick: Wow. I like hearing that. But how about some answers? I mean, can you tell me what is going on? And why wouldn’t you want me to tell mom and dad? I mean, you do know they know you got on the airplane, right? I mean, dad — well, dad’s dad. He’s got his finger on the pulse of everything. He was even planning on surprising you at the airport.

Victoria: But I’m sure my flight got in early, so he’ll just have to wait to see me. But he won’t have to wait that long. I texted you because I wanted to have a minute alone with you first.

Nick: You’re upset with me because I betrayed your confidence?

Victoria: No. No, nick. What I want is to… thank you.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: How does it feel to be so completely wrong about me? To be bested and stripped of all of your ill-gotten gains?

Ashland: You do understand you’ve just committed fraud?

Victoria: Go ahead. I dare you. I dare you to try to accuse me of anything. I will let the world know exactly what you are capable of and the levels to which you will stoop. I have proof to back it up, and I can destroy your life with one phone call. And the satisfaction of crushing you the way that you tried to crush me, that’s mine, too, leaving you with nothing but what you had before you masqueraded your way into my life and tricked me into loving you.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: [ Sighs ] You know what? Actually, it’s even less

[Chuckles] Because your company has been absorbed into newman enterprises. Your name and your presence are completely wiped from the building. And you are now what you always should have been — nothing. No one.

Ashland: I loved you with all my heart and soul.

Victoria: I could have predicted that you would say that, too. Only now I know, you have neither.

Ashland: [ Sighs ]

[ Breathing heavily ]

Chance: Whoo-hoo-hoo hoo-hoo-hoo! Whew!

Devon: Oh! I almost got ya.

Chance: [ Gasps ] Almost?

Devon: I did. I almost got you.

Chance: Almost isn’t enough, man. A win’s a win.

Devon: Oh, man. Hey, you have home-field advantage, is the problem.

Chance: Home-field advantage? How do you figure that?

Devon: Well, you’re a chancellor, and your name is on the sign, so…

[ Chuckles ]

Chance: It’s your grandmother.

Devon: Yeah. [ Chuckles ]

Chance: You know what? Even though I did win, I’ll go ahead and tell you. Even though I did win by a lot.

Devon: You should have won by a lot. You should beat me. You’re a trained government agent. I’d be worried if you didn’T. But I do want to know, how have you been? I do.

Chance: Yeah, things are actually pretty good right now.

Devon: Yeah?

Chance: They are.

Devon: Good.

Chance: Obviously, losing rey was a big blow. Thought that was really gonna drag me down, but just channeling all that grief into doing something for the greater good, try to honor his legacy.

Devon: What did you do?

Chance: I closed about 80% of his open cases.

Devon: Get outta here. That’s fantastic, man. Congratulations on doing that.

Chance: Thank you, thank you.

Devon: Wow. I’m sure he’s looking down on you, smiling.

Chance: [ Chuckling ] Yeah. Yeah, I definitely feel the positive energy, you know?

Devon: Yeah.

Chance: Got abby and dom at home right now. Couldn’t ask for more.

Devon: I hear ya. I do. I’m very impressed with how you’ve gotten yourself through everything, ’cause it really seems like you got your head in a much better place.

Chance: Thanks, brother.

Devon: Yeah.

Chance: You know what? You’re due some credit, as well. Really. Your support had a positive impact, and even if abby and i couldn’t see it at the time, it helped.

Devon: Well, I — i appreciate you saying that. I do, but I also know that i played a bit of a part in what you were going through, just ’cause I made things a bit messier than they needed to be, when it came to dominic, and i could have handled things a lot differently, so…

Chance: You know what, man? We all just wanted what was best for dominic. All that matters now is that everything worked out. Hmm?

Devon: Thanks, dude.

Lily: Wouldn’t it be great? I think chancellor-winters could bring this ultra-modern state-of-the-art hotel to genoa city. And my half of the company always wanted to bring, like, a posh, swanky hotel to town. And this could be a place that we could accommodate our artists.

Abby: Something bigger than the grand phoenix?

Lily: Well, I mean, that would actually fit the bill, except for the phyllis factor. You know, dealing with her could be a potential headache, not to mention it would cut into our profits.

Amanda: Well, I do think that a chancellor-winters hotel is a great idea.

Imani: And an exciting one.

Amanda: Yeah.

Abby: I still regret giving up the grand phoenix to phyllis.

Lily: Well, we could save ourself a lot of headache and permits for construction if we get her to sell.

Abby: [ Gasps ] That would be great — sweet justice.

Amanda: I highly doubt that phyllis is going to sell the hotel. She has put so much work into that place.

Lily: Well, look, it’s just a thought. But, I mean, if we do end up building our own hotel, I have no problem going head-to-head with phyllis.

Nate: [ Sighs ] You just made it really hard for me to say goodbye…

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: …Even if it’s just for a few days.

Elena: You’re the one who made it more difficult, coming in here like that and knowing I had to be at the airport.

Nate: You got plenty of time to make that flight.

Elena: Oh? Well, you know, there’s still room in my bag if you change your mind and want to be my stowaway.

Nate: You don’t know how tempted I am at that offer, but

[Sighs] Really can’t leave work right now.

Elena: Bummer. Well, I understand. I hope I’m not forgetting anything.

Nate: Well, I hope there’s one thing you don’t forget while you’re at that conference, shining like a star, is how much I love you and will miss you every second you’re gone.

Elena: Mmm. I’m gonna miss you, too. But I’m gonna send you lots of updates, and I’m gonna bring you some sand from beautiful hawaii.

Nate: And I promise, the next trip you take is gonna be a full-on vacation. No work, no distractions.

Elena: Mmm.

Nate: Just fun, sun, away, and play.

Elena: I like the sound of that.

Nate: Come, let me take you to the airport.

Elena: Nope, I already called a car. It should be here soon. Plus, you need to get back to work. Besides, I like leaving you wanting more.

Nate: Hmm.

Elena: Mmm, mmm. Go.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Nick: And you want to thank me? I’m relieved you’re not upset, but I don’t know what I did to deserve that kind of gratitude.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] You know you were the only member of the family who came to me, after I announced that I was leaving, with no judgment, no reprimands, and just love.

Nick: Well, I’m glad you realize how sincere I was. I mean, I didn’t like, at all, what you were doing. But you’re your own woman, and that was your choice to make. It was very hard for dad to accept, because it contradicted what he wanted.

Victoria: I’m well aware of that.

Nick: Well, since we’re in such a great place, how about some answers, then? I mean, why’d you come back? What happened in new york?

Ashland: Yeah, I-I understand the transfer was approved. I’m just asking you now if there’s any way to get my money back. No, I understand.

[ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ] Okay everyone,

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Hey, you.

Amanda: Hey. How was your afternoon?

Devon: Oh, it was good.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Went for a little run at the park.

Amanda: Yeah?

Devon: Ran into chance. We had a pretty good conversation. Hey. Are you okay? Is everything alright with your mom?

Amanda: [ Sobs ] It’s hard.

Devon: I know.

Amanda: Seeing her in the hospital bed. She can’t talk.

[ Sobbing ]

Devon: I’m sorry.

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Was having your sister with you — did that help you at all?

Amanda: Yeah. And naya loved seeing her. And having someone else there was comforting.

[ Sighs ] I don’t know. I’m kind of worried about my sister, too.

Devon: Yeah?

Amanda: Because she’s putting on this brave face, and I get it ’cause I’m doing it, too, but I don’t know — I don’t know if it’s because she’s trying to be brave in front of our mother, she doesn’t want her to see how worried she is, or she just can’t or won’t accept the sad truth. Someday her walls are gonna have to come down, and..

Devon: Well, you’re gonna be there for imani when they do. Right?

Amanda: [ Sighs ] Sorry.

[ Sobs ]

[ Sighs ] It’s just — it’s really — it’s really frustrating, you know? Because as a lawyer, if you are competent, if you’re prepared, then things usually go the way that you expect it. But in your personal life, there’s just things that you can’t control.

Devon: Well…

Amanda: And I just — i hate it.

Devon: Oh.

Amanda: [ Sobbing ]

Devon: It’s okay.

[ Smooching ] It’s okay.

Lily: Oh, hello.

Chance: Hi.

Lily: Good to see you,

Chance: Good to see you.

Abby: Well, this is a nice surprise. I thought you were working.

Chance: Well, I racked up so much overtime lately, thought I’d take the day off.

Abby: Well, what are you gonna do with all your unexpected free time?

Chance: I hung out with dom for a little bit, got some solid father-son time in, went for a run, saw devon. And now I was hoping I could hang out with my beautiful wife.

Lily: Aww. Sweet. Um, okay, I’m gonna go back to work.

[ Chuckles ] Good to see you.

Chance: Good to see you.

Lily: Bye.

Abby: Why do I feel like my wonderful husband is up to something?

Chance: Oh, because I am. I know I’ve been working so much lately, I’m afraid I’ve been kind of neglecting you.

Abby: No, you haven’T.

Chance: Yes, I have. And you’ve been a good sport about it. I appreciate that. And I’m guessing you’re not too happy about it. So, think you can ditch work for a little while? Got a surprise for you.

Abby: Mmm.

Nikki: Victor isn’t paving the way for anyone. He simply wanted to make sure that she didn’t get in any deeper with ashland, in business or anything else. This was not a calculated move against you. He’s simply trying to protect his daughter.

Adam: Oh, yes. All that famous victor newman protection. Isn’t that why my sister left town in the first place?

Nikki: You know, I don’t want to get into any of this with you right now.

Adam: Okay. I would be glad to drop the subject. Perhaps you could bring me up to speed on the hong kong deal.

Nikki: Sure. Everything things to be on track and we can probably close it.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Adam: Great.

[ Sighs ] What is it?

Nikki: It’s a text from victor. “Plane landed early. Victoria already gone. Have you heard from her?”

[ Sighs ] What on earth is she up to?

Nick: I mean, let’s start with ashland. Where is he? Don’t get me wrong. I respect your right to make your own choices, but I’m sure hoping you kicked his ass to a park avenue curb.

Victoria: I will explain everything soon, but, first, i need you to do me a big favor. I need you to get mom and dad to meet me at the office as soon as possible.

Nick: You mean, adam’s new office.

Victoria: Yes. And I would like for you to ask him to be there, as well. He needs to hear this. I’m sure it’s not gonna be that big of an imposition on him, because he’s probably already sleeping there.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Funny.

Victoria: Thank you. I’ll be there soon. I’m just gonna get freshened up first.

Nick: Yeah, uh, cool. Um, before I go, will you just promise me that you’re back for good?

Victoria: I am. But things are gonna have to change. Only two things are forever:

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Imani: Thank you. Hey.

Nate: Hey.

Imani: How’s it going?

Nate: Um, can’t complain. I know you were going to see your mom today. How is she doing?

Imani: Unfortunately, things aren’t great.

Nate: Oh, sorry to hear that.

Imani: I’m trying not to dwell on it too much, so that i don’t become a total mess. I’ve been focusing on my work so I won’t have time to obsess over my mother’s condition.

Nate: Yeah, I get it. I’ve found solace in work during stressful times myself. Anything you want to run by me?

Imani: I’m glad you asked. There is something I wanted to follow up on.

Nate: Okay, shoot.

Imani: [ Sighs ] I-I know you’ve been eager to get elena out of her newman contract so that she could start a chancellor-winters podcast. But, unfortunately, it looks like bringing her over to our side may be harder than i thought.

Nate: [ Sighs ]

Imani: [ Sighs ]

Abby: Look at this. It’s all of my favorite goodies. This is amazing.

Chance: Oh, that’s not all. Check it out. Look at our little man.

Abby: Oh! [ Laughs ] He is so adorable. I mean, he’s just perfect.

Chance: Yeah. I took that this morning after you left. Look at his little chunky arm waving at you.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Chance: “Go have fun, mom and dad.”

Abby: Mmm, my boy.

Chance: [ Chuckles ]

Abby: Look, I love that you did all of this for me. But I really hope you don’t think you’ve been neglecting me, ’cause I really don’t feel that way at all. I am so proud of you for the way that you have been honoring rey’s memory. It’s thoughtful and it is exactly what rey would have wanted. In fact, your dedication to your partner makes me love you even more.

Chance: Oh. Well, if that makes you love me even more, wait till you see what’s for dessert.

Abby: Oh, I can’t wait.

Chance: [ Chuckles ] Mmm.

Victoria: I gather that this hasn’t penetrated for you, because you’ve come to see me as someone that you can still manipulate, someone who thinks they can’t live their life without you. Well, guess what? I’m looking forward to it. And as to what you should do, I don’t care. Disappear. We’re through. I don’t want to see you or hear from you ever again.

[ Sighs ] Billy?

Billy: Victoria. Hey. Um, listen, is everything alright?

Victoria: I’m — [ Sighs ] I’m better than alright. I’m actually better than I have been in a long time. I have taken a huge step forward in my life. And there’s no looking back now. My asthma felt anything but normal.

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: You got to believe me that I know… what you’re going through. There’s been so many times in my life that I’ve wished I could control things that I can’T. I’ve lost a lot of people in my life. You know that.

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: From dru and neil and hilary, our child. It’s a lot.

Amanda: So much sadness. I’m sorry.

Devon: It’s — there’s nothing for you to be sorry about. It is, but there’s times where truly all you can do is just your best to get through it. And if imani wants to act tough and she wants to act like what your mom is going through isn’t bothering her, that’s fine. She can do that. You don’t have to, though. You never have to do that, ’cause you have me. You have me to lean on. You have me to cry to and to vent to. And that’s forever. ‘Cause we’re not just living together. We’re building a life together. Right?

Amanda: [ Sighs ] You have — you’ve given me an emotional security that I’ve never had before. And it feels comforting, and it feels empowering, but… it also feels really scary.

Devon: Why?

Amanda: Because… it just — it feels so fragile. And I’m scared that it might go away, and then I’m just gonna be alone.

Devon: Mnh-mnh, mnh-mnh. Stop it. Stop it. Listen to me.

Amanda: [ Sighs ]

Devon: You feel that, right? As long as that’s beating, you will never be alone again. Promise you.

Imani: Elena’s contract with newman media is airtight. It’s not gonna be easy getting her out of it.

Nate: [ Sighs ] I really hate that legal red tape could keep her from joining our team.

Imani: I know you put a clock on this. When is elena heading to hawaii?

Nate: Oh, she’s probably boarding her flight right about now.

Imani: Well, with elena gone, I guess we’ll just have to work together to figure this out.

Nate: Thank you for staying on top of this for me. I really want elena to work with us, so counting on you to make that happen.

Imani: Of course.

Nate: Honestly, it’s more than just wanting to work with elena again. I’ve really got to do everything I can to fulfill the promise I made at the launch party about the upcoming podcasts. Frankly, we don’t have the numbers I committed to yet.

Imani: Oh. I get it, and I’m glad you confided in me. I feel a little responsible, since I’m the one who encouraged you to go big when you made your speech, which makes me want to help you even more now. So we will work together and figure out a way to make your promise a reality.

Nate: My first thought is, maybe we need to meet with the new head of newman media — sally spectra. I prefer to take a personal approach.

Imani: So do I. I could set up a meeting, and i could even go with you and field any legal questions.

Nate: Good idea.

Imani: Okay, well, I’ll get on it.

Nate: Much appreciated.

Imani: Mm-hmm.

[ Sighs ] Yes, uh, I need a reservation for tomorrow night. For two.

Billy: Well, I’m happy to hear that you’re sounding so strong. I was getting a little worried, there.

Victoria: I’m sorry, I should have reached out earlier. Everything was just moving so quickly. But I wanted you to know that I’m back in town, and everything’s changed now. I’ll fill you in later. I’d like to talk to my family first. I’m actually meeting with them now.

Billy: Hey, vick, before you hang up, can I just ask… is ashland in the picture or not?

Victoria: You can breather easier. Ashland locke is finally out of my life for good.

Ashland: I need to charter a plane to chicago.

[ Sighs ] Yes. Today. For you I wish many things…

Abby: Ah. It’s a perfect day for a perfect surprise.

Chance: Well, only the best for my perfect wife.

Abby: Mmm.

[ Cellphone pings ]

Chance: Hold on. Sorry, sorry, sorry.

[ Sighs ]

Abby: I can tell by the look on your face that that’s work. And it’s important, isn’t it?

Chance: They just got a new tip on one of rey’s cases. Got to be dealt with immediately. But you know what? Somebody else can handle it.

Abby: No, no, you should go. This is your personal mission. You have to see it through.

Chance: What, and leave all this perfection? No.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Chance: Absolutely not. No way. Besides, the whole point of this was to spend uninterrupted time with you.

Abby: I know, but just the fact that you put all this together for me, it means so much. And besides, we have the rest of our lives to go on picnics together.

Chance: Are you sure?

Abby: Yes. Go. Go. [ Chuckles ]

Chance: I love you.

Abby: I love you.

Chance: Mmm.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Imani: [ Sighs ]

Nate: So, how’d it go? Any luck getting ms. Spectra to meet with us?

Imani: I charmed her assistant, got her to put me through to the woman herself.

Nate: Nice.

Imani: I even managed to get her to join us for dinner tomorrow. I made reservations for the three of us. Time for us to work some magic.

Lily: Oh, hey, I’m glad you’re back. So, I had a very interesting conversation with abby.

Billy: Hold that thought for one second, because I had a very interesting conversation with victoria. She is back in genoa city.

Lily: So, did she dump ashland?

Billy: Apparently, yeah. And to be honest, I had no idea just how much this was weighing on me. I really did not want to have the conversation with the kids where I explain to them why their mother suddenly left town.

Lily: Yeah. No, I mean, it’s good they don’t have to go through that.

Billy: It’s great. To be honest, I feel very inspired. I think now is the time to lighten up my podcasts a little bit and have a little fun. You know, I could talk about how we have to trust the people that we surround ourselves with, and have faith in the process.

Lily: Yeah, I don’t think the disastrous end to a dramatic relationship is cause for celebration.

Billy: I hear you, and i wouldn’t exactly say it that way. I would turn it around — “a dramatic end to a disastrous relationship,” because that — that is inspiring… because it’s over. It’s done. Victoria is back… where she belongs.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] Did victoria tell you when she’d be here?

Nick: She said she wanted to freshen up. She’ll be here as fast as possible.

Victoria: Hello.

Nikki: [ Gasps ] Oh, my god! Oh, darling. I’m so happy to see you. I’ve been so worried. I didn’t know if I’d ever see you again.

Victoria: I missed you so much. I couldn’t stand being away from you.

Nikki: I mean, I’d never seen you so that way. You were seemingly willing to walk away from the family forever, and…

Victoria: I’m so sorry to put you through that, but I felt like it was the only way. I had to make my break from you all seem plausible to ashland.

Adam: So, it was all a scam? A trick? [ Sighs ] What have you done, victoria?

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, i realize it’s a holiday weekend. I realize that. So let’s look at this as — i don’t know — a challenge as opposed to a setback.

[ Clears throat ] What can I help you with?

Diane: Well, I’m so glad you asked. In light of our recent truce, i thought it’d be wonderful if i could go back to having full access of your top-of-the-line gym and spa.

Phyllis: Why? I hear that the athletic club has more than adequate equipment for, you know, the average guest.

Diane: [ Sighs ] We can be honest with each other, can’t we, now that we’re family? Your equipment is a cut above, and astrid’s massages have made a new woman out of me.

Phyllis: Um… I can’t help you. I’m really sorry. We have an agreement with the athletic club that they don’t poach our clients, we don’t poach theirs. Besides, we are all booked up.

Diane: Oh. Huh. Funny you should say that because I could have sworn i just heard you complaining that you were desperate for customers.

Phyllis: I was not saying that, that I was a desperate for customers. I just — you misunderstood. Diane, we have the right to refuse service to anyone.

Diane: [ Scoffs ] You don’t have any grounds to do that where I’m concerned.

I would hate to think our détente was just on paper, and i know other people would be disappointed, too.

Phyllis: Oh, my goodness. Listen to you. Are you threatening me right now? Are you gonna tattle on me if i don’t give you an appointment at my hotel? Wow.

Summer: Hi, guys.

Diane: Hi, summer.

Phyllis: Hey, supergirl

Summer: Hi. What’s going on here with you two peace-makers?

Diane: Oh, I was thinking because your mother has been so generous to declare a truce that I would spend my self-care money here. So, I was just telling phyllis what a fabulous job she’s done creating such a restorative oasis.

Summer: What a nice gesture. Isn’t it, mom?

Phyllis: It’s lovely. Well, the grand phoenix welcomes you with open arms.

Allie: Jack, you have a few minutes?

Jack: Sure. Anytime for you. What’s up?

Allie: Hey, so, I have been thinking about that internship offer.

Jack: And?

Allie: And I would be very interested in the position. That is, if it’s still available.

Jack: It certainly is. And I am thrilled to hear this. I will call hr right now and get your paperwork started and… I’m delighted, and ashley will be, too.

Allie: Great. Well, I can’t wait to start. I do — [ Sighs ] Jack, I do have one condition, though.

Jack: A new intern with demands.

Allie: No. It’s not that. You and the rest of the family have been so kind and so welcoming, and I appreciate that. But I can’t help but wonder if some people might think I have ulterior motives, you know, that I came here looking for a handout or to take advantage of being an abbott.

Jack: Allie —

Allie: And I hope there is no part of you, jack, that feels that I came here with nefarious intentions, trying to take all I can get from you. And — and I hope there’s no part of you that’s doing this because of my dna. I need to know that this is based purely on merit and not out of some sense of guilt you feel for the years that you lost with my dad.

Kyle: Which handsome ceo just scored two unbelievable seats to genoa city’s hottest singing star’s hometown concert?

Mariah: I’m gonna go out on a limb and —

Kyle: This guy! We cannot wait. Summer’s been singing all the songs from your album. Coffee, please.

Mariah: Uh, kyle, that’s very sweet —

Kyle: Yes, I had to pay through the nose, but we would have paid double just to see tessa singing her heart out onstage. Tessa, what’s wrong?

Mariah: Uh, tessa had an appointment this morning with an ear, nose, and throat specialist. She has vocal chord nodules.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Oh, tessa. I’m so sorry.

Mariah: The doctor is recommending surgery followed by vocal training… which means she’s not only going to have to postpone this show, but her tour…indefinitely. Like pulsing, electric shocks,

provided by…

Kyle: Tessa, I’m so sorry. I cannot even imagine.

Tessa: I just… I had so much riding on this tour. And, honestly, I’m worried about what all this time out of the spotlight is gonna do to my career.

Mariah: Hey. Look at me. Your health is the most important thing. And I know that this is not ideal, but thank goodness it wasn’t more serious. So, we are gonna do everything we can to make sure you have the best care and that you’re doing anything and everything possible to not only preserve your voice, but career.

Tessa: Yeah. I mean, look, I’m trying to be optimistic.

[ Sighs ] But I — I can’t help but feel like I’m disappointing all the fans that I’ve made after all these years.

Kyle: No. When you go public with the news, your fans will rally around you and cheer on your recovery.

Mariah: It’s true. Tessa, they adore you. They just want you to be happy and healthy and be able to create more beautiful music.

Kyle: I mean, should you get a second opinion? Not that I’m doubting your doctor or the diagnosis, but it might help ease your mind knowing you’re following the best course of treatment.

Mariah: Actually, we’re meeting with elena in a little bit. Her uncle jett had something very similar, and she was instrumental in his recovery.

Kyle: Smart. And I know this sucks, tessa, especially on the heels of your album dropping, but in another way, couldn’t be better timing.

Mariah: You’re gonna have to explain that one.

[ Chuckles ]

Kyle: Well, if you’re forced to take a break from your singing career, it may give you more time to focus on your adoption plans.

Mariah: Uh…actually, we’ve, uh — we’ve put that on hold for a little bit to deal with us.

Tessa: Mariah thought it was important that, uh, I heal first.

Mariah: Hey. We’re gonna meet our child when the time is right. I believe that in my soul.

Jack: It never crossed my mind that you came to genoa city for mercenary reasons. As a matter of fact, I feel like you’re doing us a favor. We are lucky to have someone with your graduate education in that position. As a matter of fact, there were discussions that you might get bored.

Allie: [ Laughs ] Never. I loved being at that lab at jabot, imagining all the possibilities.

Jack: Well, I am thrilled you’re interested in learning the family business… and sticking around, for a while anyway.

Allie: You know, I do feel like I’m starting to find my footing here.

[ Doorbell rings ] You expecting anyone?

Allie: Uh, I don’t think so.

Jack: Come in, noah.

Noah: Hey, jack.

Jack: My guess is you’re not here to see me.

Allie: [ Chuckling ] Hey.

Noah: Hi.

Jack: Listen, much as I’d like to stick around, I have a meeting to get to, so the house is yours.

Allie: Alright. Bye, jack. What, uh — what brings you by?

Noah: How do you feel about surprises?

Allie: In general, I hate them. They’re very unpredictable. But I can try to be open-minded.

Summer: I have to say, I am impressed. This truce is off to a promising start.

Diane: [ Sighs ] I’d do anything for kyle.

Phyllis: And I, too, would make sacrifices for my children. In fact, I have. I have, for you and kyle. You know, when he didn’t have a mom around.

Diane: And since kyle and summer and I will be working so closely at marchetti, it is imperative that we all get along.

Summer: Absolutely. This is the goal.

Phyllis: Yeah, that is the goal. This is us getting along.

Diane: Yes. So far, so good.

Phyllis: So far, so good!

Diane: Right?

Phyllis: And in fact — in fact, look at this. We had a cancellation. Oh, my goodness. You know what I’m gonna do? I’m gonna gift you with our very special resurrection rejuvenation treatment.

Diane: I am dying to hear more.

Phyllis: Oh, you’re gonna love it. I mean, I haven’t done it myself, but I hear that it digs, digs down and brings out the best in someone. People describe it as — I don’t know — coming back from the dead. But I don’t know about that.

[ Laughs ]

Diane: You know, that just sounds way too expensive and so self-indulgent. But you know what? I’m worth it.

Phyllis: Yes, you are. Yes, you are. Oh, I’m so excited.

Summer: Wow. Where do — where do I sign up, mom?

Phyllis: Oh, my gosh. You know what? There’s always a place for you, always a place.

Diane: You know, I think summer was my good luck charm. You were all booked up and then my daughter-in-law shows up and suddenly — pfft! Serendipity.

Phyllis: Serendipitous.

Diane: Yeah.

Phyllis: I know. She’s like a good luck charm for sure. So, let me see here. Here we go. Yeah, astrid is ready for you whenever you’re ready.

Diane: Sounds great. I can hardly wait.

Phyllis: Welcome to the grand phoenix spa. I hope you enjoy yourself.

Diane: I will. Ciao.

Phyllis: Ciao.

Summer: What the hell was that? (Vo) it’s yoooopllllaaaitiimmeee!!!

Mariah: Everybody at jabot is buzzing about you being home.

Tessa: Yeah, and no one is more excited than this lady right here.

Kyle: Well, I hope you’re still happy after you hear the latest. Thank you. And thank goodness you’re hearing it from me.

Mariah: Oh, no. What’s the bad news?

Kyle: I’m the new ceo of marchetti.

Tessa: [ Gasps ] That’s fabulous!

Mariah: No! No, it isn’T. You brought me to jabot, and now you’re ditching me? Kyle, you can’t go.

Kyle: No, no, no, no. I’m not ditching anyone, and I’m not leaving jabot. I’m just vacating my co-ceo seat to run our newest acquisition. I think it’s important to learn the ins and outs of marchetti and maximize the value to jabot.

Mariah: Hmm. Synergy.

Kyle: Exactly. You know, it’s been fun running the family business with my dad, and I learned more than I could have picked up in any other situation, but when summer came to me with this proposition, I couldn’t say no.

Mariah: And how did jack take the news?

Kyle: He’s all for it, happy for me, just like I hope you will be eventually.

Mariah: You being home is amazing. I mean, you’ve even had a positive effect on summer, who’s come back from italy, dare I say it, likeable?

Kyle: Finally!

[ Laughter ] These past couple years, especially the time we spent away, proved one thing — summer truly is the love of life.

Phyllis: Summer, I’m doing my level best to keep the peace. That’s what I’m doing. But you heard the princess of passive-aggressive behavior, didn’t you?

[ High-pitched voice ] Acting like — like she’s a sweet little angel, that she’s a little baby that’s just been born. Ooh!

[ Normal voice ] Ugh.

Summer: What I heard was diane not taking the bait from you. Look, I know that this isn’t easy. I get that. But I love that you’re trying. I really do. So please just keep it up for me and for kyle. We are counting on you to take the high road here.

Phyllis: Okay. I’ll take the high road. That’s what I’m gonna do. The high road. It’s uncharted territory. Just…

Summer: Thank you.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] You’re welcome. Let me ask you something. I mean, do you really think that it’s a good idea to have diane working at marchetti? I mean, do you really think so? Because, summer, we don’t know what’s gone on in her life, only what she’s told us. And she could revert back to form. I mean, that is her M.O.

Summer: Are you trying to make trouble for diane right now?

Phyllis: No, I am not. I am trying to protect you. That’s all I’m trying to do, is protect you, summer. Got it?

Summer: Okay. Look, mom —

Phyllis: You were a little girl. You don’t remember what she was like, and you don’t know exactly what she did to me and others in this town.

Summer: Okay, just… stop it, please. Diane — she’s just eager to get back to work, to start a new career here. And kyle and I are just trying to set her up for success in that because it’s the right thing to do for everyone.

Phyllis: Oh, gosh. You’ve become a believer, haven’t you? Wow. You’ve accepted diane as entrusted member of this family. And kyle — he’s just welcomed her back, no problems, no questions. And jack probably feels the same, doesn’t he? Am I right?

Summer: [ Sighs ]

Noah: I have unearthed something so incredible, so exciting, I know you’re gonna love it just as much as I do.

Allie: Okay. Do I get a clue?

Noah: You know, it’s funny that you should mention clues because it’s an old radio mystery show. Listen to the story, find all the evidence, solve the crime.

Allie: Oh, I can totally get into that.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: Wait, but you could’ve, you know, saved yourself a trip and just texted me the link.

Noah: See, that’s the thing. It’s actually not online. Trust me. I looked. A friend of mine turned me onto it. I made some recordings, and… I got you this. It’s an mp3 player. That way, you can listen to it.

Allie: [ Laughs ] Wow. Wow. Ancient technology.

Noah: I know. I know.

Allie: No, I think I’ve heard of these things. You really are full of surprises, aren’t you?

Noah: I can be.

Allie: Uh, well, so, how does this work? Uh, let’s — let’s give it a listen and see if it lives up to the hype.

Noah: Yeah, let’s do it.

Allie: Yeah.

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Allie: So, is there a power button, or should I just, you know, hold it and make a wish?

Noah: [ Laughs ] It’s right there.

Allie: Wow. Would you look at that.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: Okay, so, what about speakers?

Noah: Oh, yes.

[ Sighs ]

[ Chuckles ] There you go.

Allie: Amazing.

Noah: Voil. Alright, let’s give it a listen.

Allie: Wait. Now?

Noah: Yeah, I want to see your reaction.

Allie: Oh, no, no, I don’t like being observed like that. Makes me feel like a science experiment.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: Now you’re part of the problem.

Noah: Okay, and together we will find the solution.

[ Scoffs ] Look at me, making science jokes. Who am I?

Allie: Oh, god. [ Chuckles ]

Noah: Alright, let’s do this and solve a crime.

[ Click ]

Allie: [ Chuckles ] Kids can change minds…

Summer: The question isn’t whether we’ve all accepted diane, it’s why do you feel the need to plant seeds of doubt.

Phyllis: Because someone needs to be the voice of reason.

Summer: I think that this is about more than your history with diane. I think that something happened in your recent past that is driving your behavior right now. Mom, are you ever gonna tell me why you and jack broke up? I know that it had something to do with diane.

Phyllis: What’s done is done, summer.

[ Sighs ] Look…

Summer: Mom… if you did something, if you made a mistake, if you did something to push jack away, I’m not gonna judge you. Just be honest with me.

Phyllis: Okay, I think it’s very interesting that you think

i was the one who was wrong.

Summer: Mom, you were the one that told me that you screwed up. You told me that. And then you proceeded to minimize everything. But you guys aren’t together anymore. This isn’t just a bump in the road. This is a sinkhole with caution tape and orange cones around it. What happened between you guys?

Phyllis: You should ask jack.

Summer: I’ve asked jack. He says that there’s nothing to tell.

Phyllis: Okay, well, then there’s nothing to tell. Accept that.

Summer: I’m not gonna accept it, because I care about you. I care about you and I care about jack. I can see that you’re both hurting. I can tell that jack is heartbroken over this.

Phyllis: Okay. [ Sighs ] I mean, I’m not happy about that.

Summer: What aren’t you happy about? You know, summer… honestly, I… cannot accept… that jack has just… let diane back into the family… after everything that bitch has done to me. And he just expects me to be fine and go along with it. I cannot do that. And I’m sorry about what happened. And — and I do feel bad.

Summer: What are you sorry about, exactly? Please, mom, just… walk me through it, step by step. What happened between you guys?

Phyllis: [ Sighs ]

Noah: Well, the music is pretty spooky, already.

Allie: Shh! I thought you were ready.

Noah: I was born ready.

Allie: Yeah, that explains a lot.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

[ Gasps ] That’s it.

[ Both laugh ] Wait, why would she —

Allie: Shh!

Noah: Okay.

[ Both laugh ] I told you.

Allie: [ Sighs ]

Noah: [ Sighs ]

Allie: Wow.

Noah: What do you think, so far?

Allie: [ Laughs ] That was awesome. It was like we stepped into a time machine, you know, and — and the sound effects.

Noah: Oh, yeah, puts you right in the story. Ominous organ music.

Allie: The drama. Oh, I am so here for it.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: It’s almost like I’d forgotten that we aren’t, you know, in the streets of london on the coldest night in the middle of 1918.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: [ Sighs ] This was perfect, you know? Way better than a movie.

Noah: Yeah, but, you know, a movie does have one thing that this doesn’T.

Allie: Popcorn?

Noah: Can you make some?

Allie: Oh, can I make some?

Noah: Of course. What, you’re an expert popcorn maker, too?

Allie: Okay, okay, I will just say that it’s simple science. All you need to do is just add heat and then, you know, don’t let it burn. I am kind of a phenom when it comes to popping corn, so…

Noah: Alright, let’s see it. Hey, uh, where do you think you’re going with that, miss?

Allie: I’m taking the mystery with me.

Noah: What, you think I’m gonna skip ahead?

Allie: You know, maybe one day, when we get to know each other better, I’ll be able to leave this with you unsupervised, but for now…

Noah: Okay, yeah. Yeah, you’re right. There’s still a lot of things we, uh, don’t know about each other.

Allie: Yeah, exactly.

Noah: So I’ll go with you.

Allie: Uh, what? You don’t trust me?

Noah: No. You don’t know how much butter i like on my popcorn, and that’s really something that ought to be supervised.

Allie: You actually think I’m gonna skip ahead?

Noah: Listen, allie, maybe one day, way, way in the future, when we get to know each other a little bit more, maybe then I’ll feel comfortable leaving you unsupervised. But, for now, consider me your shadow.

Allie: Alright, shadow. Let’s go pop some corn.

Elena: Hey.

Mariah: Hi.

Elena: I am so sorry I’m late.

Mariah: Is everything okay at memorial?

Elena: Uh, yeah, it is. It’s me. I’m the problem. I’m going to this medical convention in hawaii, and I am the great procrastinator when it comes to packing.

Kyle: Hmm

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Kyle: That’s my cue. Uh, I need to go meet my dad. You’ll take care of these two?

Elena: It would be my pleasure.

Kyle: Mm-hmm. Tessa, you’re in good hands. All you need to do is take care of yourself. I’ll see you later.

Elena: See ya.

Mariah: Bye.

Tessa: Bye.

Elena: Let’s have a seat.

Tessa: We’re good. Do you want a coffee or anything?

Elena: No, I’m okay.

Mariah: Yeah, elena has a plane to catch. Probably just wants to give us her opinion.

Elena: Well, first, I know how anxious you must be. So let’s just take a breath, and we’ll do this step by step.

Tessa: Okay, that’s not really my strong suit.

Elena: [ Chuckles ] Your situation seems very similar to what my uncle went through. So, what questions do you have for me?

Tessa: Only one. Is my singing career over?

For your most brilliant smile,

crest has you covered.

“The young and the restless”

will continue.

Elena: I can’t even imagine how frightened you must be. But after talking to your doctor, and with my own experience with my uncle jett, i believe you can and will recover and be able to get back to your career.

Tessa: Oh, thank god.

Mariah: [ Sighs ]

Elena: Unfortunately, there are no promises in medicine. But provided you continue to follow your doctor’s recommendations, you have every reason to be optimistic.

Tessa: How is your uncle now?

Elena: After his surgery, he went on a comeback tour.

Tessa: [ Sighs ]

Elena: [ Chuckles ] And he just released a new single a few months ago.

Tessa: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: So it’s possible?

Elena: Yeah.

Tessa: Okay, um, maybe I’m jumping the gun, but do you have any idea what a timeframe looks like?

Elena: That’s hard to predict, but I would think of this as more of a detour. You will get back on track once you fix the problem. But I don’t want you to rush your recovery.

Mariah: Okay, I’m going to tattoo that on my forehead, just to remind her.

[ Laughter ]

Elena: Your voice is like your instrument, right? If someone gave you a stradivarius violin, you would take care of it. You would protect it, right?

Tessa: Yeah. I — yeah, I understand.

Mariah: And, uh, the ent — she’s good?

Elena: She is highly respected. And my uncle jett cannot stop singing her praises. But if you want a second opinion, I am happy to send over more recommendations.

Tessa: Yeah, it couldn’t hurt. And, uh, thank you.

Elena: Yeah, sure.

Mariah: Are you feeling any better?

Tessa: Yeah. Thank you. Thank you so much.

Elena: Of course. And anytime. This is the part of my work that I love the most — telling people good news and making the scary stuff seem a lot more manageable. You’re gonna get through this.

Mariah: I never doubted it for a second.

Noah: [ Crunching popcorn ]

[ Click ]

Allie: Alright, time to place our bets.

Noah: That would be a complete waste of time. It’s obviously the third wife.

Allie: Whoa. It’s the ex-husband.

Noah: Uh…

Allie: Were we listening to the same program?

Noah: Okay, allie, you do realize that the whole object of this is to suss out the guilty party, right? Not the people least likely to have committed the crime. You might have —

Allie: Okay, you are totally ignoring their history.

Noah: It can’t be the husband.

Allie: Explain, but using facts.

Noah: Okay, one, he was devastated by his wife’s betrayal; two, he was seeing the ghost of his dead father; and, three, he was being haunted by the other ghost of his dead wife.

Allie: Right, skeletons in his closet, daily hauntings by spirits accusing him of murder.

Noah: No, no, no, no.

Allie: That still doesn’t put him on top of your suspect pile?

Noah: Emotions are not facts, because there’s incontrovertible proof that the third wife was involved.

Allie: Okay. Name it.

Noah: The neighbor said that they heard strange noises in the middle of the night.

Allie: She was walking in her sleep.

Noah: I think she was chasing her victims.

Allie: Okay, it is the husband, with an ax.

Noah: Unh-unh.

Allie: Mm-hmm.

Noah: Wife, with poison drinks. Alright, look, if you’re so sure of yourself, how about we make this a little bit more interesting.

Allie: It’s already interesting.

Allie: Oh. Oh, u mean like a friendly wager?

Noah: Mm-hmm.

Allie: Okay. Okay, what do you have in mind?

Noah: Alright, if I’m right, which I am, then you owe me six hours.

Allie: Of what?

Noah: Your life. We have to hang out, and you have to laugh at every single one of my jokes.

Allie: Oh, my god.

Noah: Now, it’s up to me whether I want to spread these hours out a little bit or use them all at once.

Allie: Okay. Besides you really knowing how to torture a person, I would go with that. If I win, you have to come running with me.

Noah: That’s not much of a consequence. I’d do that anyway.

Allie: I’m considering training for a marathon, so…

Noah: Okay, um… deal.

Allie: Deal.

Billy: Alright, now let’s shut up and find out…

Noah: Alright.

Allie: …Who is gonna win.

Kyle: Hey, how was your meeting with lander?

Jack: It went great. He sends his congratulations on your new position.

Kyle: Nice of him. Now that we got business out of the way, how are you?

Jack: I hope this isn’t another interrogation about the nature of my relationship with phyllis.

Kyle: I know she’s a touchy subject.

Jack: I am not exactly champing at the bit to share the intricacies of my romantic life with my son.

Kyle: You think I want to talk about your love life? I said I would stay out of it —

Jack: You don’t have enough going on in your own life? You have marchetti, a young family. You shared with me, you still don’t know if you can trust diane.

Kyle: I need to know if she did something underhanded or duplicitous. Now that she’s working for me and marchetti, I can’t get summer’s initial suspicions that my mother was involved out of my head.

Jack: Okay, your mother’s career and my personal life have nothing to do with each other.

Kyle: I can’t be sure about that until you tell me what’s going on. At mariah’s wedding, you and phyllis seemed genuinely happy, and I know you spent the night together. You admitted as much. But then something went wrong.

Jack: Yeah, details of which are no one else’s business but ours.

Kyle: The other night, when phyllis saw all of us together, she looked said and lost. She was trying to keep it civil, but it was clearly difficult for her, and it wasn’t lost on me that my mother was stirring the pot by inviting her over to join us and toasting her.

Jack: It was not an ideal situation.

Kyle: I need you to be completely honest with me, because I need to know if this new relationship I’m building with my mother will work. I want to know if everything she’s doing is aboveboard. So, dad, just tell me. Did my mother do something to sabotage what was happening between you and phyllis?

Jack: I am only going to tell you this because I don’t want you misinterpreting or blaming diane for this situation. I might not trust her, but that’s not fair to her.

Kyle: Okay. I just want to know the truth.

Jack: Yes, I honestly thought phyllis and I were in a good place. Our friendship was strong. We agreed that we weren’t gonna rush anything, we’re gonna take our time. She was there for me when i learned about keemo there in D.A., When I met allie. Of course, that brought in diane. Even that, I thought that would bond us somehow, both finding out that she was alive. I just thought we were in a better place, that maybe there was a chance we could move on to the next level.

Phyllis: Things were going well between me and jack. They were going well. We were in synch, and it was great. And then I screwed up. I just screwed up, and I made a mistake. And it was like the old me.

[ Sighs ] I regret what I did. I shouldn’t have done it. But… summer, having that woman come back into my life, I can’T. I mean, it turned everything upside-down. I mean, jack doesn’t understand. He doesn’t get it. And I regret what I did, and i told him I regret what I did. But, I mean, it was just a knee-jerk reaction, that’s all, because that woman pushes my buttons. She gets to me.

[ Voice breaking ] And sometimes I feel like I’m losing control.

[ Sobs ]

Jack: That is when I realized there was a connection between the two, that this thing between us had escalated, had grown physical because of diane’s reappearance.

Kyle: You don’t think phyllis would intentionally use you like that? She might be reckless, but she doesn’t lie about her feelings.

Jack: That’s the thing. It doesn’t matter if what she’s feeling is real. It’s just as real that she went back to the way she was in the old days. I’m telling you, her worse attributes came out to play as soon as diane came back. All the things she claims she had gotten beyond, all the things that I argued with her, that she’d outgrown. Turns out I was wrong. Turns out that’s not possible.

Kyle: Almost sounds like you’re more willing to give the benefit of the doubt to my mother than phyllis.

Jack: I have decades of history with her, son. She always reverts to type. It’s like a rubber band snapping back. She can’t help herself. She’s got to get her jabs in! She’s got to punish diane, and she can’t just stop. She can’t help herself, and i can’t live with the constant threat that she’s going back to her old self.

Kyle: I mean, I still don’t understand. What exactly did phyllis do?

Jack: She made sure diane witnessed what I foolishly thought was… an intimate, meaningful moment between us.

Phyllis: But what jack refuses to believe is that it didn’t make what happened between us any less important. Of course it was important. I mean, did I want to stick diane’s nose into it? Yeah, I did. Did I escalate things because diane was in town? Yeah! But it doesn’t make him less important to me. And what he doesn’t understand is that — that my feelings were sincere and my feelings are real. He doesn’t — he doesn’t seem to understand that.

Summer: Okay, let me see if i have all of this straight. You moved forward with things with jack, and as much as it was about the bond that you guys shared, it was also about making a point to diane? You were, like, marking your territory?

Noah: Alright, this is it.

Allie: Shh.

Noah: Now, I hope you’re ready for total and complete humiliation, ’cause it’s about to happen.

Allie: Oh, do you, um — do you cry when you lose? I-I just want to know. It’s completely acceptable, but in case I have to get you tissues or call someone to calm you down.

Noah: Oh, yeah, yeah, I cry. I’m gonna be crying with laughter as I watch you suss through all the clues that you’ve gathered and wound up with the wrong conclusion.

Allie: [ Chuckles ] You wish.

Noah: No, I hate to break it to you, but I think your career as a detective is gonna be over before it’s even begun. Alright, I’m done, I’m done. Let’s lock back in. Come on.

Allie: Oh, oh, are we gonna listen to this and find out who the culprit is, or are you just gonna keep talking trash and embarrassing yourself? Because, you know, that’s fine, too.

Noah: Wow, you really are an abbott.

Allie: Spoken like a true newman.

Noah: [ Chuckles ]

Allie: [ Chuckles ]

[ Click ] Ax. See?

Noah: Mnh-mnh. Arsenic. I told you.

Allie: Minor detail.

Noah: Wait. What —

Allie: Shh!

Noah: The best friend?

Allie: The best friend? How?

Noah: We must have missed something.

Allie: No, that makes no logical sense — zero.

Noah: [ Sighs ] Drang, how does it feel to be so phenomenally wrong?

Allie: Okay, no, you were wrong, too.

Noah: Oh, but not nearly as wrong as you.

Allie: Oh, there are no shades of wrong. Incorrect is incorrect.

Noah: Okay.

Allie: You — I’m sorry, but you are never gonna rise above the ranks of a “mediocre armchair detective.”

Noah: It’s true. Neither will you.

Allie: This was fun. It’s a cute gift. You know, how did you know that I like antiques? I can probably sell this to a museum one day.

Noah: Guess you’ll have to hold on to it, then.

Allie: Yeah. I guess I will.

Kyle: Couldn’t have been easy, finding out that phyllis used you like that. I’m sorry, dad.

Jack: Yeah, you live and you learn.

Jack: I really thought you two would make it work this time.

Jack: So did I.

Kyle: I mean, to be honest… this is concerning. If phyllis still hates my mother that much, to the extent where she would use you to drive her point home, are they headed for a showdown?

Jack: I don’t know. I hope not. But the thought has crossed my mind.

Kyle: Phyllis claimed to my mother that the past was behind them. But if it was that easy for her to relapse, who’s to say she won’t do it again? And if our mothers go to war, what could that do to me and summer?

Phyllis: What was gonna happen between jack and I was inevitable. It was gonna happen. I pushed it along. Did I stick diane’s nose in it? Yeah, I did. And you know what? It felt good, and it was a bonus. But jack knows me well enough to know that I’m sorry. I am sorry, and my feelings for him are real. They are real. They are. And it’s not some act of retribution. It’s not. Really.

Summer: Mom, I’m not judging you, but I do think that jack is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met. And he deserves to be loved and adored and cared for. He deserves a lot better treatment than what you showed him.

Next week on “the young and the restless”…

Sally: “Chile mitchell, C.P.A. Of newman media.” Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?

Victoria: No more ashland. He’s gone, and he’s out of our lives for good.

Ashland: This time, the target will be much more manageable. Hmm? My wife. [ Sighs ]
