This letter was originally mailed to the psychiatric facility where I was getting treatment in Europe. But I’d already left to come home for Dad’s funeral, so it only recently made its way to me in New York.

Well, let’s see here. Vic is informing Philip that he’s made a new will and that he wishes that he– quoting here– “that he had the option to leave Titan to Philip.” But he can’t because he’s supposed to be dead.

I’m the rightful heir. And it’s only by happenstance that I’m not in charge this very minute.

Then why the hell didn’t you make this claim earlier?

As I said, I didn’t know about this letter until now.

He doesn’t really have a case, does he, Justin?

Well, it’s hard to say, but this is certainly enough to contest the transfer of Titan to Kristen.

Look, Philip, you just don’t really understand what’s going on here. Kristen has a serum that can– it can cure Sarah’s paralysis, but she won’t give it to us unless she gets Titan, and– this is my wife we’re talking about. I’m appealing to you as your brother. Please, you’ve got to drop this lawsuit. [dramatic music]

So Dr. Rolf developed a serum that could cure Sarah’s paralysis. Kristen has offered to hand it over to Xander and Sarah in exchange for exonerating me. However, as it turns out, they had nothing to do with my release anyway.

Right. So is Kristen willing to stand by her offer?

She says that she’s making arrangements to hand the drug over to Xander. What? What?

It just seems so out of character of her, you know, to be so generous.

Yeah, well– [knocking] Yeah, well, Kristen, she’s been full of surprises lately.

Well, unfortunately for you, Sarah, Brady wouldn’t have made a credible witness either since he would have to admit that he was blackout drunk that night, anything that he thought he saw or heard just wouldn’t stand up in court, obviously.

Aha, but not to the Salem PD. And since I didn’t tell the police that I was responsible for the accident and I denied confessing it to anyone else, I’m sure you can deduce that I am in the clear. [relaxed music]

I am certain, Ms. Trask, that I have a strong case to make against your client. So we’ll just have to let the process play itself out, let a jury decide. But if you seriously think that any one of a dozen of your client’s peers will be unsympathetic to Dr. Sarah Horton Kiriakis, the granddaughter of the pillars of our community, the loving mother of an adorable one-year-old, when she wheels herself into court to testify to the fact that her lush of a mother-in-law ran her over, then you are less of an attorney than I first thought.

If anyone is less of an attorney here, it’s you, Elvis, because you seem to be forgetting that Sarah Kiriakis has also changed her story about what happened that night multiple times, making her, well, a not-so-credible witness. And as for Brady Black, the man’s an addict, obviously, and has been accused of, among other things, killing his uncle in a drunken rage and throwing him into the river.

If you’re referring to his Uncle Philip, the lunatic who faked his own death and then framed Brady, much in the same way that your client did.

Be that as it may, Brady Black’s testimony in this case is certain to offer reasonable doubt after reasonable doubt. The man was so intoxicated on the night of the accident that he even believed that he was driving the car. You see, he has changed his story also. So how can anyone be certain that he wasn’t really the person who hit Sarah?

You know he didn’t do it.

[scoffs]

Brady will testify that he woke up in the passenger seat of the car next to Fiona, who was behind the wheel. And he will also testify to the fact that she said that she had just hit someone.

Do you even hear yourself, EJ? When a jury hears the testimony of your two wholly unreliable witnesses, they will not even deliberate. They will acquit my client immediately. But hey, you want to take this to trial, be my guest. I will take great pleasure in tearing apart their testimony and your already tainted legal reputation. I’ll rip it to shreds. So do yourself a favor. Save the City of Salem the expense. Save yourself the embarrassment, and cut Fiona loose now.

Once your shares of Titan Industries are successfully transferred to me. [laughs] Now… [clears throat] Do you need a pen, Xander?

I mean, who’s going to go toe to toe with Kassandra? I mean, it’s not like we can go online and, you know, find someone–find a capricious, fiery actress, a soap-opera diva.

I might have a solution… if we bring back Lorna…

[groans]

You know, being jealous is one thing, but how was I to know that the man had issues and was paranoid and…

Madam Mayor, Your Highness, I am not suggesting Chanel or Bonnie or Hattie, for that matter. There are plenty of other actresses who could have fallen victim to… the hotness of Alex Kiriakis. I mean, that rocking body, those bedroom eyes.

“Well, I am flattered by the compliment. “But the truth is, Arrow did beat the pants off me “with his smooth, steady stroke, “swinging through the cue ball like it’s not even there. And he sure does look fine bending over that table.”

“You listen to me, Regan. “You can throw your little schoolyard innuendos “in my face all you want, but you will never shake “my faith in Arrow, because we have been through “a long and tortured road, and we are finally together in every way.”

“Mm, why, I don’t know what you mean by ‘schoolyard innuendo,’ Faith.”

“Well, then let me elaborate, OK? “You see, the only cheatin’ heart “at the Cheatin’ Heart last night was you, “you home-wrecking bitch. So stay away from my man.”

Unbelievable. I mean, it wasn’t enough that the woman ran Sarah over and then set Brady up to take the fall.

God, it makes everything we do on “Body & Soul” seem tame in comparison, right?

[laughs] What is that saying? Life is often crazier than fiction because fiction has to seem believable and life doesn’t.

So speaking of art imitating life, how is it working with your costar?

Oh, it’s going fine. Even though Chanel and I haven’t shot any scenes together yet, the photoshoot went smoothly, so not expecting any problems.

Ah, a little situation with another coworker that got a little…messy.

Oh, no, not for me. Uh, Bonnie, the last time I acted was in a play in high school. And I–oh, I was so nervous, I forgot all my lines. All three of them. No, this is not for me at all.

I’m here because I want my daughter to audition. And, Bonnie, I was hoping that you might be able to put in a good word?

You see, my mother, with whom I’m traveling, is not only highly annoying, but she has absolutely zero respect for other people’s boundaries, you know? I mean, try going through two airports, two flights, two rideshares with the woman every step of the way. Drama.

Sounds stressful.

Yeah, no, nonstop stressful, actually. First, it starts out with us not being able to get coffee because she’s worried that we’re gonna miss our flight. So we get to the airport three hours early, makes me throw out my toiletries because she doesn’t want to waste time checking bags. Damn, I had some expensive moisturizers in there.

The horror.

And then… we got through security with hours to spare. And all she wants to do is gossip about the other passengers, making, like, snide comments about what they’re wearing, you know, things like that. She doesn’t even let me watch the shows that I downloaded. [chuckles] Are you even listening to me?

No, not really. And no offense, but you are aware that other people have problems as well, right?

Wow. I thought Midwesterners were supposed to be friendly. Sorry for trying to have a conversation.

Oh, yeah, believe me, I know. I still haven’t recovered from when you got Ricky Martin to perform at my fifth birthday party.

Oh, yeah, mm-hmm. Even though the only song of his that I knew was “Livin’ La Vida Loca,” and that was from “Shrek.” I was disappointed that you didn’t get Puss in Boots.

[laughs] Well, the other mothers and fathers were very excited.

All right, she’s a lot like her mother, the poor kid. But Bonnie, she has a knack for getting herself into the messiest of situations.

Yeah, I know him. And she works with him.

Actually, they– they knew each other prior to working together. They actually slept with each other before she and I were married, so.

Well, she swore to me that everything that happened between them was in the past. And that she wasn’t even attracted to him anymore. And I stupidly believed her.

Hey, she’s–she’s your wife. You trusted her. [sultry jazz music] So what did you do after you walked in on them?

Ooh, I, um, turned around and walked out.

You confronted her, though, right?

No, I didn’t.

Well, now, correct me if I’m wrong now, but isn’t Alex the reason you had to come over not too long ago and use my shower because Johnny got all jealous about you two shooting those love scenes together?

No, no, no, that was the photoshoot. But we talked that out. We talked it out. It was fine.

Well, I talked to him later that day, and he admitted that it’s been harder on him than he expected.

Right, and I understand that. But what I think is that we just– once we get this first bedroom scene done and over with, everyone will realize that it is all okay, and that it is not a threat to anyone’s marriage or relationship. It’s make believe.

Oh, so you didn’t shoot the love scene yet?

No, I thought I told you. We had to put it on hold because of the whole situation with my back.

I get that. What about the next time you saw her?

When I saw her later, I thought– I thought that she was gonna confess, you know, tell me it was just some horrible mistake and beg for my forgiveness.

Well, would you have been okay with it if she had?

No. Obviously not, okay? But at least I could have maybe worked past it eventually. But instead of being honest with me and contrite, she just– she acted like nothing even happened. She just lied right to my face.

And then what?

Then she snuck out to see him again the next day.

Oof.

Yeah. Told me she was going to run an errand. Really, she just went over to his apartment. I saw her leave. Heard her make him swear not to say anything. Heard her call me clueless even.

Whoa. Okay, I’m sorry, but this woman sounds like a stone-cold bitch.

But she’s not, though. You know, if you would have asked me a month ago if she was capable of doing something like this, I would have said no way in hell. Now it’s like I don’t even know who she is anymore. And even though– I don’t know, the reason that I’m not confronting her, you know, telling her that I know she’s cheating on me, that I saw her, that I walked in on her cheating on me–

Yeah? What’s the reason? [sultry jazz music]

I guess it’s, uh– I feel like if I– if I actually say it, if I put it out there, then it’s real. And I would still give anything for it not to be.

Okay, so the goal is to get through this love scene and then surprise Johnny with a party. And since Alex is going to be helping with that surprise, then maybe Johnny will feel better about him. And then we can all move forward as friends.

Okay, love scene, first of all. That’s what I prefer to call it. And second of all, Mama, you’re not helping.

Okay. How am I being unrealistic, Mama? I truly believe that once we have gone through this experience together of Johnny directing, Alex and I acting in this lovescene, then it is just gonna be a million percent easier moving forward.

What’s it like between Stephanie and me? Mm. Well, as you know, Dad, I was on a pretty low place when I moved back in here. Stephanie kept– she kept me steady. She helped me through the dark times. I just can’t stop thinking about… what it was like when we were together and… how badly I screwed things up, man. I was an idiot. I hurt her very badly. It took us a long time just to get back to a place of being friends again, you know?

Have you had this conversation with Stephanie?

Yeah. Many times. And she agreed that we need to just keep things the way they are.

Yeah. Turns out, she and Brady were drinking the night of the accident and my mum was behind the wheel when they hit Sarah. And then rather than own up to what she did, she decided to frame Brady.

Surprised you haven’t heard about all this or read about it. It was in “The Spectator” this morning.

Well, I just got back from a business trip to Chicago.

Well, I just got back from the police station, where your brother didn’t want to release Brady. But Sarah and I, we managed to change his mind.

Sarah remembered that too.

Yeah, but technically, Xander, it was Brady who alerted the police to your mother’s guilt. So I mean, you and your wife, I mean, you didn’t do anything to get Brady free.

The hell are you trying to say, Kristen?

Well, I think it’s pretty obvious, Xander. I’m gonna keep the serum.

Although I wasn’t– I wasn’t the one behind the wheel that night– thank God it wasn’t me– Fiona never would have been able to frame me for that crime if I hadn’t been so damn drunk, OK, so it’s gonna take me a long time to forgive myself for–for that, for being weak and relapsing after God knows how many years of sobriety.

And you’ll get there, Brady. You’re a really good man. And you had the sense not to drive that night, so you have to give yourself credit for that.

I don’t know! He wanted you to be in torment, Chad. And he wanted your money.

[scoffs] This is about money? That’s why you pretended to be a dead woman, why–why you pretended to care about me?

I did not pretend that! Not that. I don’t expect you to believe what I’m saying, but I need you to know that I actually have feelings for you. I really do. [dramatic music]

Yeah, and she would have succeeded if Xander hadn’t have come home when he did.

So you’re not gonna give us the damn serum?

I didn’t say that. [chuckles] It’s your lucky day. I am feeling very generous. No, I will give you the miracle serum to cure Sarah’s paralysis.

God, I knew you were greedy, but this is just–

Actually, Xander, it’s self-preservation. You see, I just came back from a very disturbingly tense meeting with the DiMera board. [sighs] And they expressed dissatisfaction in the current revenue stream and projections, a not-so-subtle way of saying that they are losing confidence in me as CEO.

[scoffs]

Now I have to pull out all stops. And if I have control of Titan…[chuckles] Well, then they would obviously regain their confidence in spades. And I will be the most successful CEO DiMera has ever had.

Well, I’m sorry to burst your bubble, Kristen, but I’m never giving you my father’s company.

[scoffs] [breathes deeply]

We all know how badly Xander wanted revenge because he believed that I had hit you with my car. He was planning on breaking both of my legs. It’s not a far stretch to think that he would have taken it one step further and maybe ended my life.

See, that night, I– the night I was arrested, I ran into this–this man. He claimed to know me from AA, but I’d never met him before. And when we shook hands, he… pricked me with–with his ring. And shortly thereafter, I was completely out of it. Everyone thought I was drunk, but I– I knew that I hadn’t touched a bottle since the night of the accident. So I assumed I had been drugged.

And then that night when the police came to my house, they caught Xander hovering over me in my bedroom. He said he was just there to confront me. I think he was there to… finish me off. Luckily, because you called the police, they stopped him from doing that.

So, Sarah, here’s my thought. You knew what your husband was up to.

And you called the cops and lied to keep him from committing murder.

So is Brady home now?

No, no, he won’t be home until–I don’t know– later this afternoon, I guess. I’m so happy for Tate. He–he really needs his dad right now.

Of course he does, especially since his mother isn’t in his life for who knows how long.

And then when I recited those vows to you, I realized I wasn’t part of this–this–this plan, this convoluted plan. I was falling in love with you. And–and I’m sorry. I know that you don’t need to hear that right now, but it’s the truth.

So…[sighs] This woman posing as Abigail, you remember how all this started and how she was discovered.

And John and Steve never got to the bottom of that. Well, hopefully, when he confronts her, he’s– he’s gonna be able to get some answers. [dramatic music]

Yeah. I guess we should have known better than to doubt a mother’s instinct.

Yeah. Yeah, we should have. But, Uncle Steve, I dread telling my dad. He was so convinced that it was her, so damn happy about it, relieved.

I keep thinking about the night– the night and the morning of the accident– how I called you in a panic because I thought that I had hit Sarah, and you told me to not jump to conclusions, Brady. Don’t turn yourself in, Brady. You made me feel innocent, even though when I didn’t believe that I was, even though now we know that you knew I was. And instead of coming forward, what did you do? You hung me out to dry. So my question is, why did you do that to– no, I have a better question. How could you do that to Sarah?

All she’s never done my whole life is disappoint me. You know, when she abandoned me, I was– you know, I was just a little boy. But even then, some part of me somehow understood that it was the best thing that ever happened to me. And yet when she showed up here in Salem claiming to have changed, I just– I just forgot about all the– the bad times and the terrible disappointments. And I just– I just turned back into that stupid little boy who wanted his mum.

What are you sorry for? You didn’t– you didn’t do anything wrong. Your heart was in the right place like it always is. She’d somehow transformed into a person of character, someone I could trust.

I should have seen through it. I know who she is, who she was, how she treated me when I was a child– How she could just abandon me without looking back. How could I not see the signs? How could I not see that she was just the same heartless drunk she’s always been?

Because it wasn’t obvious. It wasn’t obvious at all. She hid it really well.

But I’m her son. I should have known. My god, Sarah, I– I left her all alone with our daughter. I– I trusted her with our little girl. What the hell was I thinking?

Should’ve known she’s still the same wretched human being she’s always been, who clearly just passed on all her wretched genes to me. I was so enraged at Brady, I was going to murder him. And then you had– you had to lie to the police to save him from me. And you may have to– you might have to face the consequences of that. You might have to pay the price for what I did.

No, no, no. I am not going to be charged with perjury, I– especially now that I remember seeing Fiona behind the wheel. When– when EJ threatened me, when he wouldn’t let me retract my statement, I didn’t remember. But now, we have proof. She– she confessed to us.

Yeah, to us. God knows what she’s saying to the cops. When Jada showed up here last night to arrest her, she– she did that before we called . How– how could she have known?

It must have been Eric. He was grilling me earlier about the accident and maybe he went to the police.

Well, we have to go and set the record straight and get Brady out of jail. And not just because he doesn’t deserve to be there, but because it’s still the only way Kristin will give us Rolf’s serum, which is the only way to heal your injuries. And that’s the priority, yeah? But after that, when you’re all better, by God, we will make my mum pay for what she’s done. [tense music]

Brady, that was the last thing I wanted for you or for Sarah.

Then why– why did you drink and drive and hit Sarah and then leave her on the ground not knowing whether she was dead or alive? Hey, why didn’t you speak up when I was arrested? Why did you let me take the fall? My last question is, what did I do to deserve this, Fiona?

Nothing. You didn’t deserve this. Of course, you didn’t. And now, for what it’s worth, and I know it’s not much, you at least deserve to understand.

Brady, I wasn’t drunk that night. I was just tipsy. And so I thought it would be safer for me to drive you home than to let you get behind the wheel.

Probably would have been safest just to get a cab.

But that night I thought– I thought we’d be OK. And it was so dark, and– and Sarah, she just appeared out of nowhere. And it all happened so fast. And then when I realized I’d hit someone, I panicked. And when I realized it was Sarah, I panicked even more. Because I knew that if Xander found out, it would be the end of our relationship forever.

I see, so you thought, better– better ruin Brady’s life rather than mine, right? Is that the thinking?

No, it wasn’t premeditated. You were passed out on the seat next to me. And then I just– [panting] –I waited for some help to come for Sarah before I left her there. And then– then my foot went down on the pedal, and then we were gone. My mind was racing and my world was about to end. And there you were, blissfully ignorant!

And then the idea started formulating in my mind before I was even cognizant of it. I’d done some research on– on Xander’s Salem family after I came to town, and I knew that Maggie had been involved in an accident and framed it in a similar manner.

Wow, that’s– that’s– that’s how you got the brilliant idea. Wow.

That’s how I got the terrible idea– the cruel and heartless idea to drive you home to the parking garage and put you in the driver’s seat.

You didn’t just put me in a driver’s seat. You put me in– you put me in hell. You put me in a guilt-ridden hell right up until I found out the truth. And now it’s your turn to suffer. It’s your turn to be in hell.

Wait, I’m sorry. How do you know Xander Kiriakis’s mom?

She used to come into the bistro. And she was nice at first, really friendly. She even gave me her cheesecake once when I was overworked and totally starving, invited me to come sit with her.

Yeah, because she was nice, like I said. And I don’t know, she seemed kind of lonely, like she just wanted someone to talk to, I guess.

OK, what did you two talk about?

Well, we talked about you a little. I mean, she asked me if I was dating anyone. And–

I don’t know. I mean, we weren’t together that long, and we kind of were always a hot mess, so–

Well, no, no, it’s not what I want. But even if I could forgive Tate for taking his dad’s side for hitting my Aunt Sarah and just driving off, I’m not too sure he’s going to be able to forgive me.

What did you do?

Well, I, kind of, was going through his dad’s room looking for evidence to use against him in the hit-and-run, and Tate caught me. And to be honest, I broke into Brady’s briefcase.

Yeah, I see.

Yeah. And to top it all off, my– ex-BFF Sophia is making a move on him and I don’t know. Pretty sure Tate is, like, into her too, so it kind of feels all hopeless, you know?

I’m sorry, Holly.

Yeah, thanks. Anyway, enough of my sob story. Let’s talk about you. You’re getting married in the most romantic city in the world, and I’m so excited for you. And I’m really honored to be a part of it. I can’t wait for you and Abigail to fall in love all over again. [giggles] [gentle music]

Why would she freak?

I guess I never said your name before, but this time I did. I said, Tate. And I said that you were dating Holly. And that’s when she lost it. Because apparently she lives with Holly’s family and was worried that they would all find out she had a drink at the bistro, that I would tell them. She even threatened me.

No way.

She said it was important I keep my mouth shut because her family thought she was sober. Now I know it was more than that. She also didn’t want them to know that she mowed down Sarah when she was probably smashed out of her mind.

Brady, I prayed that no one would identify your car. I prayed that you wouldn’t be implicated.

OK– I’m– OK, starting to understand here. You setting me up was your fail safe so the cops wouldn’t find you. But what about what I would think? If the cops didn’t track us down, I would just go on believing that I was guilty of this for the rest of my life.

Look, when Sarah came through her surgery and we all thought she was going to be all right, I fully intended to set the record straight. But then when we realized she was paralyzed and knowing that it was all my fault, I just couldn’t.

No, you could’ve. You could have. You could have! You just decided not to.

EJ, we, uh– we need to talk.

If you’re here to defend your mother–

Oh, she can rot in hell for all I care. We’re here to make sure that you release Brady now that you have my mother in custody.

Well, there has to be some reason behind Sarah changing her story the other day and why you two have suddenly become so desperate for me to release Brady. So until I know the whole truth, I will do no such thing.

Brady, when your car disappeared and EJ released you, you have no idea how relieved I was. And I’m so sorry that Xander tried to take the law into his own hands, but I put a stop to that, too.
