Johnny talked to Roman about his conversation with Rita about running DiMera Enterprises. He said he was the only one who could sign off on the DiMera/Titan divestment. Roman wasn’t happy about the idea. Johnny said that he would never get involved with the business again, but he didn’t have a choice if his family didn’t come back. Chanel went to see Sarah for her checkup. Sarah told her that her test results show that the cancer was back, but she wanted to double check. She told her that they wouldn’t know anything until after Christmas. After the visit, Chanel went home and cried. She controlled herself by the time Johnny came home. Chanel only told him that she was waiting on results for her tests. Johnny told her that he had to take over DiMera Enterprises. Chad and Theo woke up and saw Peter in the crypt. They didn’t know who he was. Kristen recognized Peter. She gave Peter a hug when he woke up. Chad and Theo introduced themselves to Peter. Peter was going to be there sooner, but EJ kidnapped their mother before he showed up. He got a chance to see her. Peter was being vague about when he saw his mother. The others didn’t seem to notice the way he was acting. Chad told Peter about their theory that Stefan was the one who kidnapped them.

Jennifer told Thomas that he wasn’t going back to school because his father was missing. Thomas was upset that she didn’t say anything to him sooner. He thought she lied to him just like his father did. Thomas wasn’t mad long. He was worried about when his father would come back. Jennifer wanted Chad to come home too. She wanted to take Thomas and Charlotte to Boston until Chad came back. Once Chad was back, they would go back to Salem. Abe felt like he failed Theo because he was on the phone with him when he was kidnapped. Paulina took the blame for the kidnapping by telling Abe that she shouldn’t have agreed that he should run DiMera Enterprises. Abe assured her that she wasn’t responsible. Paulina promised him that Theo would be okay. Abe was a cop for a long time. The longer a person was missing, the less likely they would be found. Chad assured Theo they would be fine in the crypt. They talked about what happened with Rachel. Theo assured Chad that things would get better with his children. He remembered losing his mother at a young age, and the anger he felt towards his father. Theo got over his anger. He checked on Kristen and realized that she needed help. They realized that they had to get out of the crypt. Chad felt they had to get out to save Kristen.

Steve showed up at Stephanie and Alex’s place and was ready to move in. Stephanie didn’t think he needed to move in, but Steve’s mind was made up. Alex thanked Steve for moving in. After Steve left the room, Stephanie informed Alex that they wouldn’t be having sex. Steve came back in the room and informed her that he was going everywhere she did. Stephanie was annoyed by that. Steve went through Stephanie’s letters and found a new one. The letter indicated that the writer knew Alex’s full name and planned to take Stephanie from him. Steve, Stephanie, and Alex were scared by the letter. The only thing they knew was the person was left-handed. Stephanie remembered that Jeremy was ambidextrous. Steve was surprised that Jeremy could write with both hands. Jeremy was sitting in the town square with a pen and paper in his hands.

Gwen and Rita were upset that they didn’t know what happened to EJ. Rafe arrived at the mansion after he heard about EJ’s disappearance. He wanted the key to the crypt. Rita told him that the key wouldn’t work because EJ had the crypt sealed. Rafe wanted her to get it unsealed and let him know when she did. After Rafe left, Gwen and Rita talked about moving on until EJ returned. Gwen decided that she would call the shots. Rita wondered who tipped the police off about Rolf working in the basement. Gwen told her that EJ believed that Leo was the person who tipped the police off, but she didn’t think it was him. She didn’t want Rita to go after Leo. Gwen wanted to handle him. Johnny talked to Chanel about his class failing an exam until Paulina arrived. She told Johnny that EJ was missing. Johnny didn’t understand how that happened. Paulina assured him that they would find his father as well as the others. Johnny wondered if the police had any idea why his family was being targeted. Paulina said that the police didn’t know anything. There weren’t any ransom notes for any of them. Johnny realized that they didn’t know if any of the hostages were alive. He thought about the last conversation he had with his father. Johnny called his mother to let her know what happened. He reassured her that he would be careful. After he got off the phone, he told Chanel that Sami and Sydney were upset about EJ’s kidnapping.

Gabi snapped at Javi for telling Rafe that she had a motive to make the DiMeras disappear. Javi told her that he and Rafe didn’t believe that she did it. Gabi didn’t trust him after what he did. She ranted about the things that she told him. Gabi wasn’t sure if he told Leo what she said. Leo walked in the house and assured her that Javi didn’t tell him anything. He told her that she was the one who told him everything. Javi didn’t want Leo to say anything. Leo would keep quiet if she admitted that she screwed over Xander and Philip to give DiMera back to Tony. Gabi refused to say anything else. Arianna arrived shortly after that. She could tell something was wrong. Javi and Leo left the house. Arianna wanted to know what happened. Gabi told her that she did something stupid that she hoped wouldn’t come back to bite her. She changed to subject to find out Arianna’s plans. She told Gabi about Kate’s idea for her to work at DiMera. Gabi didn’t want her to work there. Gwen ran into Javi and Leo at the town square. She told him that EJ disappeared, and Leo was shocked. Gwen warned him to keep his mouth shut if he didn’t want to end up missing. Leo refused to back down. Gwen threatened him.

Belle went to the hospital. She told Marlena that Brady moved in with Maggie. Marlena said she couldn’t forgive herself. She told Belle that she was done with seeing patients. Xander went to the Kiriakis mansion with gifts. Brady wanted to know why he was there. Xander said he was there with gifts. He was upset about Brady living there temporarily. They talked about the DiMeras being missing and denied being responsible for it. After Brady left, Xander came back with an extra gift. Sarah came home and was upset about him being there. Xander said he was upset that Brady was living there. Tate and Brady went to see Rachel. Brady said he was proud of the progress she was making. Rachel said she made a new friend in Sophia. She told them Sophia couldn’t talk, but they played board games. Tate and Brady didn’t think it was a good idea to be friends with Sophia. They gave Rachel Christmas decorations which made her realize she wouldn’t be home for Christmas. Rachel said she wanted to see her mother. They told her they would spend Christmas with her.

When Kristen woke up and saw EJ, she thought she was hallucinating. She thought he was behind what happened. He told her Rachel remembered what happened and was in Bayview. Kristen was upset. Chad found out what happened with Rachel. He told them that Leo told him Johnny was going to be found not guilty for shooting EJ. A furious Kristen flipped out on EJ. She said if he didn’t make her confess, she wouldn’t have gone to prison and Rachel wouldn’t be in Bayview. Brady and Tate went to the pub. Tate tried to tell Brady that he wouldn’t be around for Christmas. Brady said he and Rachel were struggling. Tate looked at his plane ticket and decided not to say anything. Xander called Sarah out for having feelings for Brady. Sarah said it was none of his business. Xander said he would never have feelings for anyone else. Belle brought Marlena home. Marlena was happy to find out Tate didn’t move out. They talked about Rachel. Belle realized Kristen acted without Marlena’s input. She wanted to tell Brady, but Marlena didn’t want her to say anything, Marlena said she went along with the plan.

Alex opened an envelope that had white powder in it. He and Stephanie left the apartment. While they were leaving, they ran into Jada and told her what happened. Jada told them it could be a biothreat and then called the police. Javi examined them and said it didn’t look like they were exposed to anything. The powder needed to be examined so they couldn’t be around people. Steve and Kayla showed up. Stephanie and Alex told them what happened. They talked about the letters Stephanie got. Steve told them that the only prints that were on the letter were Holly’s. He said the writer knew the prints would be incriminating because they have a criminal record. Steve thought the person was obsessed with Stephanie and wanted to Alex out. Gwen found EJ’s phone on the floor and looked for him. She talked to Susan about EJ being missing. Susan called in a missing person report. Rita called EJ. Gwen deleted their conversations. When Susan got off the phone, she tried to get a vibe but couldn’t find EJ. She felt like something was blocking her. Jada showed up and swept the mansion. She took EJ’s phone from Gwen. The whole phone was wiped. Susan thought the person who erased the phone kidnapped EJ. Jada didn’t think that made sense and thought that it looked like EJ staged the kidnapping.

EJ woke up in the crypt. Theo and Chad told him what was going on. EJ said he had the entrance to the crypt sealed off after what happened. He said no one would think to look there. EJ wanted to know why they haven’t charged the door yet. There wasn’t a way out. Chad told Theo to get some sleep. He asked EJ how his kids were. EJ said they were okay and got a continuance from the judge at the court hearing. Chad thanked him. While they were talking, Chad accused EJ of being thrown in to look innocent. He told EJ that he was never a victim. Chad wanted EJ to tell him he didn’t kidnap them. EJ didn’t deny being responsible, but he blamed other people. Javi told Stephanie and Alex that the substance was powered sugar. They were relieved, but the writer could still be dangerous. Steve said he was moving in to protect them. Jada took EJ’s phone for fingerprints and wanted to recover any wiped data. A panicked Gwen dropped a glass. While they were picking up the glass, Jada noticed a syringe and took it as evidence. When Jada left, Susan accused Gwen of trying to hide something. Susan threatened to make Gwen pay if she had something to do with what happened to EJ. Theo woke up and told EJ and Chad that Kristen had a fever from her wound.

Leo went to see Johnny. He told Johnny that he saw EJ talking to Gwen at the gala. Leo wanted Johnny to pull up the footage that Holly took.He let Johnny know that he was working on a story about EJ building a secret lab in the free clinic. Leo thought Gwen was involved and thought it might have to do with why Johnny’s family was missing. Johnny pulled up the footage. Leo tried to read their lips and saw that EJ wanted Gwen to handle something and Gwen talked about a delivery. Johnny said he would send Leo the footage when he was done. Jeremy and Maggie were at the town square. While they were talking, he told her he was on Chad’s side when it concerned the custody battle. Maggie said she was torn but hoped Chad was found soon. Jeremy told Maggie that he knew Titan was in danger so he was willing to help if she wanted him too. Maggie said one of the writers have been letter from a troubled fan who lived in Salem. Jeremy thought Maggie was talking about Stephanie. Maggie asked if he was the obsessed fan. Jeremy was upset that his family thought so little of him. He became upset. Maggie told him she didn’t think he was the stalker, but she had to ask. Jeremy said it felt like she didn’t have his back which made him sad because she was like a grandmother to him. He walked away from her.

Rafe and Cat talked about the things in the secret room being gone. They thought someone caught her snooping. Rafe thought her cover might have been blown and that drugging EJ was a risk she didn’t need to take. Cat said she was worried about Chad and have been putting a timeline together. She thought the texts sent from Chad to Julie weren’t from him. They thought the calls Tony made were from someone else too. When they went over the suspects, Cat realized that Rafe was focused on EJ and thought his bias was clouding his judgment. Rafe admitted to his bias. He said he knew the DiMeras chose money and power over their own family so he was putting his money on EJ. At the DiMera mansion, EJ told Gwen that someone ripped off Jada that Rolf was in the secret room. Gwen said it wasn’t her. They argued over it until EJ realized Leo was the one who did it. He said Leo was lurking around for weeks and Rita caught him in the lab months ago. Gwen said she didn’t tell Leo anything and that he didn’t know anything. EJ wanted reassurance or he would take care of Leo. Gwen wanted to know what he was going to do to Leo. EJ said it was better for her not to know. EJ called someone and told them he had an important job. When Gwen went to the front door, Leo was there. She told him that he shouldn’t be there. Leo said he had proof that she and EJ were working together. He said when he exposed their plan, she and EJ would go to jail unless she came clean with him. At the DiMera crypt, Theo had a human bone. Chad was afraid the bone was Abby’s. When Theo examined the bone, he said he didn’t think it was Abby’s since it was a large bone and Abby was small. Chad was relieved to know it wasn’t Abby. Theo said the bone was a man’s bone. He told Chad that Stefan and Dimitri were missing. Chad said it could be an enemy. While they were talking, the crypt door opened. Gwen warned Leo that he should be focused on protecting Javi from seeing his body pulled out of the Salem River. She suggested that he go away for a while and mind his business. Chad and Theo discovered another body in the crypt. It was EJ.

Xander visited Marlena and talked to her about Sarah and Brady. He was concerned that Brady was trying to take advantage of Sarah. Xander knew that Brady was going through a lot too. He wanted Marlena to tell Brady that he needed time off. Marlena felt more comfortable with Xander doing that himself. He talked about the pain of losing his daughter. She noticed that he was still wearing his wedding ring. Xander couldn’t bring himself to take it off. Brady walked out of his room wearing a towel and bumped into Sarah. She was surprised to see him like that until he got a robe. After Brady got a robe, he talked to Sarah about Rachel. He gave her Rachel’s apology letter. Brady was glad that Rachel wrote the letter. He didn’t think it was enough. Brady couldn’t imagine what he would have done if something happened to her. Sarah grabbed his hand and assured him that he didn’t have to worry. They stared at each other and were about to kiss when Victoria dropped her toys.

Jada talked to Rafe about the missing DiMeras. Things became awkward between them when she told him about the date she was going on with Theo when he disappeared. They talked about EJ being the suspect. Rafe told her that someone was sleeping in the mansion’s secret room. He believed that EJ was holding someone captive or someone was helping him kidnap people. Jada left to get a search warrant. Javi arrived and told Rafe that Gabi helped him design the wedding rings. He told him that Gabi insisted that she had nothing to do with the missing DiMeras. Rafe was reading files when Javi let it slip that Gabi was involved with Tony. Javi begged him not to tell Gabi that he told him about that. Rafe realized the secret gave Gabi a motive. Javi left the house when Gabi arrived. Rafe confronted Gabi about Tony and Theo. Gabi insisted that she didn’t do anything to either of them. She realized that Javi spilled the beans and hinted that she might do something to him.
