Days of Our Lives Update

Xander and Sarah eat together at the Brady Pub. Sarah mentions an upcoming overnight shift while Xander decides he will go to the office tonight and hopes not to bump in to Philip.

Holly goes to her room where Doug III explains that he was hiding in the bathroom from the staff cleaning up. Holly feels she should tell Maggie that he’s staying there as she doesn’t think Maggie will freak out since she is compassionate and understanding. Doug III asks her to hold off for a day or two since he didn’t get a job at the Bistro but he turned in some applications in hopes that he can get his own place soon. Holly decides she will go get them a pizza and will be back soon.

Sophia walks through the town square and thinks back to Tate asking her to prom. Tate then approaches and asks about her shopping. Sophia says she bought a few maternity prom dresses in hopes that one works. Tate is sure she will look great. Sophia says she’s thinking of prom as a celebration for the three of them as soon, their baby will be going to a loving home with people who can’t wait to be parents.

Chanel questions Johnny wanting to talk about the adoption with her. Johnny reveals that he hasn’t been honest with her and informs her that Belle did come over with the adoption papers, but he didn’t sign them because he’s not sure he can go through with the adoption which shocks Chanel. Chanel asks what is going on and since when he’s having doubts. Johnny says it’s since he found out what his father did to his mother. Johnny explains that he feels lost and bringing a child in to his life right now would not be fair when he can’t be the father that the baby deserves.

Tate asks to see Sophia’s dress. Sophia says no and that she’ll tell him which color when she decides among the four or five since she has to try them on at home to see which one draws the least attention. Tate assures that they will have a fun time. Tate calls it a big month for her with prom, her 18th birthday, and their baby getting adopted. Sophia calls it a lot to deal with and admits she doesn’t know how she would’ve gotten through this last year without him. Tate assures that they were always in this together and hugs her right as Holly walks in to the town square.

Doug III gets a call back about a job. He says he can come in for an interview today and that he’ll get there as soon as he can.

Xander tells Sarah that it was easy enough to toss Philip out of the house but at the office, he’s stuck with him to not jeopardize the take over of DiMera. Xander adds that part of him thinks it’s not even worth it since he’s lying to everyone again. Xander wonders if it’s even possible to stop the whole truth from coming out.

Doug III prepares to sneak out of Holly’s room but hides back when he sees Maggie going down the hall.

Sarah knows Xander is worried about the board and investors finding out about Philip’s lies but encourages that Xander didn’t do anything wrong. Xander feels now he’s keeping the secret which makes him complicit. Sarah encourages that he was doing it for the greater good. Xander worries that if Philip’s deception comes out, it will look bad for the whole company so part of him thinks he should be honest now and just get it out. Sarah thinks back to Maggie’s advice about no good coming out of telling Xander that she knew about Philip’s secret. Sarah tells Xander that she gets the temptation to want to come clean and clear his conscience, but he has to remember that he’s doing it to protect his family, so all he can do is believe that everything will work out.

Maggie runs in to Philip in the hallway. Philip says he just came to get the rest of his stuff since Henderson told him no one was there. Philip understands how upset she must be. Maggie says she can’t express how disgusted she is with him. Doug III listens in from Holly’s room as Maggie goes off on Philip about his terrible choices and roping people in to lie for him.

Tate and Sophia greet Holly, who says she’s just picking up some pizza. Tate says they were just celebrating as the adoption went through. Holly calls that amazing news and says she’s really happy for them. Sophia adds that they decided to celebrate by going to the prom together as Tate just asked her this afternoon, so she’s been out shopping for dresses. Sophia hopes they’ll see Holly there. Holly says maybe and congratulates them as she goes to pick up her food.

Chanel argues that Johnny found out about what EJ did weeks ago and questions why she’s just now hearing about this. Johnny explains that he thought the adoption was off so he didn’t think he needed to deal with it and Chanel was already dealing with so much that he didn’t want to make it worse. Chanel understands how devastating and confusing the news must have been for Johnny but cries that they can get through this and go to therapy. Johnny argues that he’s not sure he’ll be able to do that by the time Sophia’s baby is born and feels it’s unfair to lead Sophia and Tate on when they could be interviewing other parents. Chanel cries that they are the best candidates and she already feels in her heart like she is that baby’s mother. Chanel knows when Johnny sees the baby, he will fall in love. Johnny responds that he doesn’t know that. Chanel urges him to trust her when she says that he is not his father and nothing he did could ever change that. Chanel argues that EJ has already taken away enough from he and Sami, so she pleads with him not to let EJ take away their chance to start a family.

Sophia asks Tate what he wants to do before prom but notes he’s distracted and asks what he’s thinking about. Tate says just how lucky they are to have found Johnny and Chanel to give their baby a great life. Sophia calls it incredible how Chanel brought them flowers. Tate suggests they should get them something like a frame or a mug. Sophia suggests they could also get them a scrapbook. Tate loves the idea so Sophia reveals she already got one while she was shopping. Tate recalls his mom having one like it for him and assures that Johnny and Chanel will love it. Sophia asks when they should give it to them, so they decide to go see them now.

Chanel tells Johnny that it’s totally understandable that he has no doubts but she’s never been more certain about anything in her life. Chanel tells Johnny to lean on her and let her be certain for the both of them. Johnny worries about Chanel coming to resent him because he can’t be there for her and the baby like he should be. Chanel insists that won’t happen but Johnny says it messed with his sense of self to know that his father was capable of all the horrible things he’s done and he can’t help but wonder if it’s genetic and if he could be as a bad of a person as EJ is. Chanel argues that it’s not genetic and that the man that EJ is came from his life circumstances while Johnny is a good person with a good heart. Chanel states that how Johnny was conceived has nothing to do with the man he is. Johnny is not sure about that and feels he needs to know for sure before he can be a parent. Chanel asks what about what she needs.

Xander feels he is stressing Sarah out, so he’s done talking about work because every time he brings up Philip and his lies, it clearly upsets her and he never wants to do that. Sarah wants him to be okay. Xander responds that he’ll be fine. Xander brings up where to go on their upcoming anniversary as he still owes her a honeymoon and he wants to make it as special as they can. Sarah agrees that it sounds perfect.

Philip tells Maggie that he wasn’t trying to hurt anyone. Doug III remains in Holly’s room, wondering if they are ever going to leave. Maggie argues that Philip stole from Xander and didn’t care who got caught in the crosshairs of his lies. Philip argues that Victor was his father too and always wanted him to be part of his legacy. Maggie says there are other legal ways to pursue that not involving Vivian. Philip admits he was desperate and Vivian offered him a lifeline. Philip talks about how he and Xander got close like real brothers which leads him to believe they could get through this like a family. Philip asks if that’s not possible. Maggie tells him it’s not. Maggie says she has too much to deal with for this, so she trusts he will be gone before anyone else comes home. Philip then goes on to get his things. Doug III then tries to sneak out from Holly’s room but Philip steps back out and catches him, questioning who the hell he is.

Maggie goes to the hospital to see Julie. Maggie says she heard she was volunteering again. Julie says she’s trying to be useful. Maggie says she’s sorry to hear about Bo. Julie says Hope is putting on a brave front. Maggie mentions her donation at the hospital fundraiser, hoping it could help Bo in some way. Julie is sure it will help more than she has any idea.

Doug III takes Philip in to Holly’s room and explains that he’s been crashing there ever since Julie kicked him out. Philip asks if it was Holly’s idea but Doug III doesn’t want to rat her out. Philip questions if anyone else knows. Doug III confirms that they don’t and mentions that he has a job interview and if he gets it, he can get his own place. Doug III asks if Philip won’t tell Maggie. Philip responds that he probably should since she just gave him a lecture about telling the truth, but he’s moving out so he won’t be running in to her a lot. Philip declares that he won’t lie for him, but he won’t go out of his way to tell his family about their secret houseguest either. Doug III thanks him. Philip advises him to get out as soon as he can because no matter how hard you try to keep a secret, it has a way of coming out. Philip then exits.

Sarah tells Xander that he doesn’t have to take her anywhere to prove his love to her, but assures that she does want to go. Xander says he will have the Titan travel agent send them some ideas. Sarah then gets paged to work. Xander offers her a ride but Sarah says she wants to get her steps in on a nice night, so Xander says he’ll see her back at the house. Sarah stops him to thank him, feeling they both got each other through the past year. Sarah says that Xander and Victoria are her world, so everything she does is for them. Xander tells her the same as they kiss and he then exits the Pub.

Chanel cries that she’s been dreaming of raising this baby since the second she knew it could be their baby. Chanel says she could feel her heart expanding and now Johnny is breaking it. Johnny says that’s the last thing he ever wanted to do. Chanel complains that he’s making this decision for both of them when all she wants to do is start a family with him. Chanel asks if Johnny even knows if he’ll ever want that. Sophia and Tate then show up at the door, asking if it’s a bad time. Johnny starts to respond but Tate says they won’t say long. Sophia says that they were so touched by Chanel’s flowers that they wanted to do something nice for her. Sophia asks if everything is okay. Chanel says they were just talking about something really heavy. Sophia presents Chanel with the scrapbook so they can keep memories of the baby. Tate asks if they are sure everything is fine. Johnny doesn’t want to make this any more difficult than it needs to be. Chanel stops him but Johnny says the sooner, the better. Johnny then announces that it’s been a very difficult decision but they can’t adopt their baby.

Maggie tells Julie about donating a million dollars to have dinner with Chad since she was going to make a donation anyway. Julie jokes that she gets to have dinner every night with Chad for nothing. Maggie asks how Julie likes volunteering at the hospital again. Julie says she wants to help but admits it’s not the most emotionally satisfying job. Julie says that when Doug died, she thought her life was over but then Maggie, the family, and friends were so kind and supportive. Julie says it was great comfort and eased the grief, but now she’s not so self assure and seems to be upset by every little thing, especially since she evicted Doug III. Maggie asks if she misses him. Julie says she misses the person that she thought he was but what he did was despicable. Maggie brings up when Julie once shoplifted as a teenager. Julie questions comparing that to what Doug III did. Maggie clarifies that she’s not telling her to forgive Doug III, but even good people make mistakes. Maggie says she’s realizing that more lately. Julie argues that he made a choice and questions how she could trust him again. Maggie asks if she knows where he went. Julie says she has no idea and doesn’t give a damn.

Doug III walks through the town square with his bag packed. He gets a call and says it’s been awhile as he didn’t think he’d hear from them again after he paid his debts. He questions them saying he owes more because of interest. He says he’s applying for jobs now, so if they give him time, he can get the money. Doug III adds that the Kiriakis Mansion is not his house and swears he’s not rich. He then questions how they knew where he was staying, but they hang up on him.

Philip goes to Titan and notes that Xander is working late, but guesses he hoped not to run in to him. Xander responds that he doesn’t want Philip in the company or even in Salem. Philip insists that he regrets hurting him and isn’t trying to make things worse. Xander says it’s too late. Philip reminds him that he’s still his co-CEO and he’s not walking away from Titan. Xander threatens to throw him out the window instead. Philip says they both know Xander isn’t going to toss him out unless he wants to throw away everything they worked for the last few months. Xander asks if he’s absolutely sure about that.

Sophia questions Johnny and Chanel not adopting their baby when her mom said it was okay. Chanel asks for time to work through this but Johnny argues that it’s not fair to make them wait when they could be out there looking for other parents. Johnny says they have to be honest with them which Tate questions. Johnny tells Chanel that he’s sorry. Johnny explains to Tate and Sophia that they meant it when they said they wanted to adopt their baby, but so much has changed. Sophia questions what changed. Johnny says it’s personal but he doesn’t think it’s fair for him to be someone’s father when he doesn’t think he’s ready. Johnny repeats that he really is sorry. Sophia gets upset and storms out. Tate goes after Sophia while Chanel breaks down crying.

Holly returns home to her room with pizza. She finds a note from Doug III, saying he’s sorry to dash but he can’t keep getting her in to trouble for him and thanking her for being a better friend to him than he deserved.

Doug III sits in the town square and looks up homeless shelters near him.

Julie and Maggie talk about going home. Julie talks about missing being home with Doug which Maggie relates to in thinking about Victor. Maggie encourages Julie to think about the wonderful times with Doug and it will warm her heart instead of causing more pain. Maggie tells Julie that she loves her as they hug. Julie then walks away as Sarah arrives and greets Maggie. Maggie says she was making a donation to the fundraiser and staying out of the house until Philip gets his things. Maggie asks Sarah if Xander isn’t going home yet because she doesn’t think they should be under the same roof unsupervised. Sarah confirms that Xander went to the office so Maggie says she won’t have to alert the staff. Sarah tells Maggie that she was thinking about what she said and agrees that no good will come from Xander knowing that she knew about what Philip did, so the only way to move forward is to let go of the past as they hug.

Philip says as much as Xander hates him right now, he knows he can’t torpedo this takeover and talks about accomplishing together what Victor spent half his life trying to achieve. Xander agrees that he won’t blow the deal by telling the world that Philip is a liar and a fraud yet, but there are other ways to force out a partner. Xander tells Philip to give him time, but until then, he wants his desk out of his office and he’ll make sure there’s a room with his name on it in the basement.

Tate and Sophia walk through the town square. Sophia questions why this keeps happening with the adoption and why Johnny just changed his mind. Tate encourages that there’s still time to look for new parents. Sophia says not any that her mom will approve of and wonders what they are going to do. Tate gets a call from Holly but ignores it.

Holly calls Tate but he doesn’t answer.

Tate promises Sophia that they will figure something out as they are in this together. Tate hugs her and then they walk off together.

Johnny tells Chanel that he knows that was awful but Tate and Sophia deserve to know the truth. Chanel calls it his truth and not her truth. Chanel complains that Johnny just dropped this bombshell on her and they didn’t even get to finish discussing it before he called off the adoption. Johnny says he’s sorry. Chanel wants Johnny to leave which he questions. Chanel tells Johnny to just go back to the DiMera Mansion since EJ isn’t there. Johnny argues that they can work this out. Chanel says she can’t even look at him. Johnny says she doesn’t mean that but Chanel yells at him to just go. Johnny then exits as Chanel breaks down crying further.

Sophia finds Tate at the lockers at school. They talk about how they are both volunteering at the Spring Olympiad and how it will be fun to do something different outdoors. Sophia says she’s so relieved that their baby is going to a good home. Tate says he is too.

Johnny joins Chanel in the living room which is filled with baby clothes and toys. Chanel excitedly shows him a crib on her tablet and talks about how excited Paulina is for the baby. Chanel asks Johnny if Belle dropped off the adoption papers. Johnny claims she must have gotten swamped at work. Chanel hopes she doesn’t forget about them. Johnny promises that Belle is on top of it. Chanel says with everything they’ve been through, she’s so worried that something will go wrong and stop the adoption from going through.

Shawn tells Hope on the phone that he’s getting on the next flight. Shawn says he knows Bo is in isolation but there has to be something they can do. Shawn says he wants to be there for her. Shawn asks if he’s sure and says he loves her too as they hang up. Jada asks what Hope said. Shawn informs Jada that his dad, Bo is dying.

Roman and Kayla sit together at the Brady Pub. Roman mentions hearing that Maggie donated a million dollars at the auction which Kayla confirms. Kayla says the auction was fabulous and thanks Roman for letting them use the Pub. Roman calls that is contribution. Kayla says she’s feeling really optimistic and positive about the future of the hospital now as she feels her spirits have been lifted. Roman is happy to hear that and knows there’s another reason for her spirits to be lifted too.

Marlena and Steve return home to Salem and stop outside the Brady Pub. They talk about being so happy to see that sign again. Marlena says they almost went on a wild goose chase if they listened to Orpheus’ lies. Steve says now Andrew and Paul are following an actual lead. Marlena has a good feeling about it and thinks they will find John to bring him home.

Kayla confirms to Roman that her spirits are definitely lifted because Steve will be home any minute. Kayla admits she feels a bit guilty because her husband is coming home to her while Marlena doesn’t even know where John is. Roman encourages that the whole family is on the case now and nobody is giving up until they find John which means he will be coming home too. Kayla then gets a call from Hope, who informs her about Bo. Roman questions what’s wrong.

Johnny didn’t realize Chanel was still worried about the adoption going through. Chanel says she’s excited and happy more than anything, but can’t help but still be nervous with all the ups and downs. Chanel points out that until the papers are signed, Amy could still change her mind, especially now that EJ woke up. Johnny asks what she means. Chanel reminds him that Amy agreed only because they put in writing that EJ won’t be involved in the baby’s life. Chanel asks if EJ will respect that. Johnny responds that EJ won’t have a vote. Chanel says she felt more at ease when EJ was in a coma but notes that it’s not like she wanted him dead. Johnny remarks that he did want EJ dead and he means it. Chanel brings up how they aren’t moving back to the DiMera Mansion and says she looked at home listings. Chanel reveals that Paulina found them a town house so she started thinking why waste their money on rent when they could splurge on a house. Chanel explains that she found a house and thought it would be nice for their baby to grow up with all that space.

Sophia tells Tate that if they hurry, they can make the swim meet. Tate says he’d rather just hang out and kill some time because Holly is friends with most of the swim team, so he’s not exactly their favorite person. Sophia encourages that maybe now that the adoption is back on, he and Holly can work things out. Sophia starts to say it’s none of her business. Tate states that the main reason they broke up is because of Doug III. Sophia feels Holly will come around and see that Tate was just looking out for her but Tate doubts it. Tate decides on changing the subject by bringing up Sophia’s upcoming 18th birthday and asks about her plans. Sophia explains that she doesn’t have any plans since it’s the same day as the prom, so most of her friend would be busy. Tate calls that so lame and suggests making the prom her birthday party. Sophia jokes that being pregnant without a date is not her idea of a fun time, so Tate says they’ll go together. Tate feels she deserves a do-over after last year and asks Sophia to go to prom with him but Sophia says no.

Jada tells Shawn that she’s so sorry. Shawn says it sounds like they are going to lose him and blames himself. Jada tells him not to do this to himself as he didn’t have a choice in protecting his mother. Shawn feels he just caused Hope and his entire family a whole world of hurt. Shawn questions how he’s supposed to face them now and how he’s supposed to live with himself if his own father dies.

Kayla asks Hope if there’s anything they can do as they finish their phone call. Roman guesses it’s about Bo and asks Kayla how bad it is. Steve and Marlena then enter the Pub. Steve tells Kayla that he’s so happy to see her but notes her sadness and asks what’s wrong. Kayla tells him that it’s Bo as they hug.

Johnny tells Chanel that it’s a beautiful house, but he doesn’t want them to fall in love with it before they go see it in person. Chanel says she’ll tamper her excitement for now. Chanel then gets a text that Felicity won her gymnastics competition in school which excites them. Chanel says if she leaves now, she can make it to Salem High in time for the medal ceremony as she feels it’d be really nice for Felicity to see a familiar face. Johnny tells Chanel that she’s amazing and remarks that any kid would be lucky to have her as their mom. Chanel says that’s lucky to have both of them as parents. Chanel tells Johnny that she will be back soon and exits. Johnny gets up and looks at the baby clothes, then walks out of the apartment as well.

Tate questions Sophia not even taking a minute to think about it. Sophia explains that it’s not personal and says that maternity prom dresses are really weird or ugly. Tate argues that she could pull off anything and would look beautiful. Sophia thanks him but declines and says she’s not going. Sophia then admits that how she looks is not the real reason she said no. Tate asks what she’s worried about then. Sophia asks if he’s just trying to make Holly jealous.

Shawn sits with Jada and talks about how when he was a kid, he and Bo both thought Hope was gone and Bo was grieving, but would never let him see it. Jada recalls Steve telling her that they lived on a house boat for a bit. Shawn recalls that being awesome and talks about how they would go fishing and swimming. Shawn declares that no matter what he needed, Bo was always there for him. Shawn tearfully calls Bo the best man and father in the entire world. Jada hugs Shawn as he cries.

Steve asks Kayla what’s going on with Bo. Roman mentions that she got a call from Hope. Kayla says he’s still with them but has taken a turn for the worse. Steve asks what happened. Kayla reveals that Bo contracted a virus from the ventilator and now has sepsis and the antibiotics may not be enough. Roman asks what the outlook is. Kayla says it’s hard to say and talks about how things can spread. Steve questions if they are giving up and if there’s no way Bo could pull through. Kayla explains that Bo is in isolation with no visitors, so he has a fighting chance but his odds are not good. Roman asks if there’s nothing they can do or if there’s no other treatment to help him. Kayla says any other treatment would be the holy grail of medical research. Kayla then remembers there is something being developed right under their noses as one of the directors in her department is working on something for sepsis. Marlena mentions hearing about Dr. Russell in his lab. Kayla confirms that he’s working on something for the multi-organ failure from sepsis. Roman wants to get him on the phone. Kayla says it’s not that simple since it’s still in development and hasn’t even been tested yet. Kayla feels it could be a long time before it’s approved and certainly not in time to save her brother.

Tate swears to Sophia that he did not ask her to prom to make Holly jealous and he just thought it would be a chance for them to do some nice senior stuff, but it’s totally her call. Chanel arrives and greets them, explaining that she came see Felicity. Chanel admits that she was hoping to see them here too.

Shawn tells Jada that he’s sorry. Jada relates to Shawn loving his father and worrying about him as she brings up her father being sick for awhile before passing. Shawn points out that at least Jada got to be by his side. Jada confirms she got to tell him that she loved him one last time. Jada assures Shawn that if he thinks being by Bo’s side will rid him of the guilt and regret, it doesn’t. Shawn asks what Jada had to feel guilty about. Jada says she didn’t become a doctor while her sister Talia was in medical school at the time and her family were pushing her to get in to medicine but she wanted to be a cop and save the world. Shawn is pretty sure that her dad is very proud of her. Jada thanks him but says if she kept listening to her dad, she could’ve been a doctor and maybe could’ve saved him. Jada knows Shawn wishes he could be with his parents now, but insists that he is right where he belongs. Jada mentions moving to Salem so she could be around people who loved and respected her dad which gave her a lot of comfort, so Shawn should find comfort in that too.

Steve and Kayla walk through the town square. Kayla asks how he’s doing. Steve says not to worry about him when Bo is her brother. Kayla points out that Steve and Bo have always been as close as brothers. Steve guesses he’s still processing it. Steve recalls hardly believing when they found Bo alive two years ago and jokes that if anyone was stubborn enough to cheat death, it was Bo. Steve insists that Bo will do it again.

Roman sits with Marlena and asks how she’s holding up. Marlena feels she should be asking him that. Roman admits he’s terrified for his little brother Bo, but that doesn’t mean he stops worrying about her. Johnny enters the Pub. Roman calls him someone who can lift their spirits. Johnny excitedly hugs Marlena and tells her how happy he is that she’s back. Johnny asks if there’s any word on John. Marlena says nothing definitive but she hopes to hear something very soon. Roman asks Johnny if he can get him anything. Johnny says he’ll just take a beer so Roman heads to the counter while Johnny sits with Marlena. Marlena asks Johnny to catch her up with what’s been going on as she understands it’s been a stressful few weeks for him. Johnny remarks that the whole town can’t stop talking about his father being shot. Marlena is glad he survived and wonders how Johnny is dealing with what he found out. Johnny guesses Sami called her which Marlena confirms. Marlena says that Sami told her that she explained to him how he was conceived and that they had a long talk about it which she thought went well. Johnny confirms that it did and that hearing Sami’s side of things helped, but it doesn’t change how he feels about his father. Marlena asks if he’s spoken to EJ since he woke up. Johnny questions what he’s supposed to tell EJ, that he’s not happy he woke up and wishes he died?

Shawn tells Jada that tonight did not go as he planned since he invited her over to take her mind off of her problems and now she’s kind of drowning in his problems. Jada tells him that there’s nowhere else she’d rather be. Shawn says he just feels so helpless right now. Jada suggests they go out for some fresh air which Shawn calls a great idea.

Kayla tells Steve that it all feels so pointless as they are crossing their fingers and saying prayers for Bo to pull through this when it makes her question why she got her medical degrees since she spends her days saving lives and healing people but when it comes to her own family, she can’t do anything. Steve encourages that they are not giving up. Kayla wishes she could do something to help Bo.

Sophia asks Chanel if everything is okay. Chanel says she just wanted to give them something and presents them with flowers. Sophia thanks her but asks what for. Chanel says she and Johnny have put them through the ringer for weeks and they could’ve picked someone else to adopt their baby, but they stuck by them and now they get to start a family because of them, so she wanted to give something. Chanel says they are giving them the biggest gift they have ever received and they will always be in their hearts because of it. Chanel gets emotional as Sophia and Tate assure they are so grateful for her too. Sophia hugs Chanel.

Marlena tells Johnny that he’s allowed to feel whatever he’s feeling but since there’s an ongoing police investigation, she warns him to be careful about what he says about EJ. Johnny admits he shouldn’t have said that in front of anyone. Marlena wasn’t going to talk to him about that but she knows what EJ did complicated his life. Johnny argues that it complicated a lot more than just his life. Marlena guesses he means the adoption and how that could certainly derail it but Tate told her that Amy changed her mind, so nothing is standing in their way now. Johnny says there’s nothing, except him.

Shawn and Jada walk through the town square and come across Kayla and Steve. Jada tells Kayla that she’s so sorry to hear about Bo. Kayla thanks her and asks how Shawn is doing. Shawn says he’s in shock like everyone else. Shawn mentions just getting off the phone with Ciara and now he has to call Claire, but he’s pretty sure he’s the last person they want to hear from after getting the news. Kayla assures that’s not true but Shawn argues that if their father dies, it’s because of him. Steve encourages Shawn to not blame himself and says they have to stick together as a family as the only way to get through this.

Marlena questions Johnny not being sure he wants to be a parent. Johnny says up until a few weeks ago, he had no doubts and he hates feeling this way. Marlena asks how Chanel reacted. Johnny admits he hasn’t told her and asks how he could when she just finished telling him how happy she is that everything is finally falling in to place and now he’s just going to sweep the rug from under her again along with Tate and Sophia. Marlena knows he doesn’t want to hurt anybody but says that’s no reason to adopt a child as that’s unfair to everyone involved since his feelings will surface eventually. Marlena tells Johnny that if he’s not 100% sure this is right for him, he has to talk to Chanel about it and they can decide what they are going to do together.

Sophia and Tate talk about how proud Felicity was. Tate wishes Aaron was there to see it. Sophia points out that Cat was there to cheer her on and how happy she was with Chanel’s flowers. Sophia talks about it being sweet that Chanel thought of them too and says they are the lucky ones since their baby is going to a great home. Sophia asks Tate to split their flowers but Tate wants her to keep them. Tate insists on thinking Sophia needs a night of fun and asks if he can convince her to be his date to the prom. Tate then takes one of the flowers and officially asks Sophia to go to prom with him. Sophia reluctantly accepts as Tate hugs her and says it’s a date. Tate then walks away, leaving Sophia with a smile.

Johnny returns home where Chanel excitedly talks about how many pictures she got of Felicity. Chanel adds that she got emotional in front of Sophia and Tate. Chanel asks Johnny if everything is okay. Johnny says not really and he doesn’t know if it’s the best time to get in to this but he also knows it can’t wait. Johnny tells Chanel that they need to talk about the adoption.

Steve gets Jada an ice cream in the town square in hopes that it will bring back happy memories because her dad used to take her to the ice cream truck every week. Jada comments on things being simpler as a kid. They rejoin Kayla and Shawn. Kayla brings up the drug for Bo. Steve reminds her that she said it wouldn’t be ready in time. Kayla says it won’t, but she thinks there’s a way she could get it to Bo before it’s too late.

Rafe and Gabi sit together at home as Rafe questions why Gabi paid $15 thousand for a date with Alex Kiriakis. Gabi responds that it was for a good cause and admits she was also angry at JJ while Alex happens to be easy on the eyes. Gabi adds that maybe it was a bit impulsive, especially since she’s going to be out of a job soon. Rafe asks if she really thinks Xander and Philip are going to push her out of her own company. Gabi says maybe not deliberately, but the way they’ve been running the company has been crazy, like they are awaiting her nervous breakdown. Gabi declares that she has to decide whether to stay and lose her mind or walk away. Rafe tells her that he’s sorry as that does sound like a difficult decision. Rafe then informs her that he also has a difficult decision to make. Rafe gets a text from Jada, wanting him to meet her at the police station so he wonders what that’s about.

At the police station, Jada asks Shawn if there’s any update on Ava. Shawn tells her that he talked to JJ, who asked Tripp to talk to her but has had no luck yet. They joke about being unable to believe Ava is at a Tibetan Monastery. Shawn mentions talking to Roman about the night Ava left town. Jada calls the timing very suspicious and wishes ballistics could get a definitive match on the bullet to the gun. They agree that it matches up to Ava being their #1 suspect but Jada says the only problem is that Ava could be anywhere in the world right now.

Brady is at the Brady Pub and looks at Ava’s number in his phone. Paulina then arrives and asks if there’s any news on John. Brady says that Paul and the ISA strike team are still trying to track him down. Paulina asks him to tell Marlena that she’s praying for John’s safe return. Brady agrees to do that and thanks her. Paulina adds that she’s also been thinking about Brady because his grandchild is about to become her grandchild. Brady says apparently Amy Choi changed her mind about the adoption. Paulina comments that she’s never seen Chanel so happy.

Chanel asks Johnny how the job search is going. Johnny says it’s going and he just sent his reel over to a producer for a commercial gig. Johnny says he’d like to find a more permanent gig but he can’t seem to be able to find any. Chanel encourages him not to put so much pressure on himself. Chanel points out that they have a nice financial cushion and suggests maybe it’s best not to start a new job until after the baby is born since they will be so exhausted. Chanel says she’s so excited to start their family and then asks Johnny if something is wrong. Chanel guesses it’s about his father since EJ just got out of his coma. Chanel asks if Johnny will visit EJ now that he’s awake.

EJ remains in his hospital bed and has a flashback to seeing Rafe’s bugged camera device in the living room. Belle enters and notes that it’s a good sign that he’s been moved out of ICU. EJ is surprised to see her and asks if this means she’s ready to give him an answer. EJ tells Belle that he needs to know if it’s true what Susan said about her feelings for him. Belle admits that she loves him.

Brady tells Paulina that he’s really glad the adoption is going through. Paulina knows it won’t be easy for him to watch his grandchild be adopted in to another family. Brady admits it will be tough but it’s what is best for the baby. Brady points out that Johnny is still family. Brady admits that Tate and Sophia aren’t ready to be parents while he believes Johnny and Chanel will be great parents.

Johnny tells Chanel that he has no intention of ever seeing EJ again as he wants him out of his life and out of the picture, period. Chanel says maybe that’s for the best since she gave Amy her word that EJ wouldn’t be a part of their baby’s life in any way because she doesn’t want anything to mess up their adoption now. Johnny thinks back to stealing Roman’s gun from behind the Pub.

EJ smiles after hearing that Belle loves him and says he’s truly happy about it. Belle says she’s not happy about it but it must be quite the ego boost. EJ says it has nothing to do with his ego. Belle admits she’s been fighting it for awhile now, but seeing him in the hospital and not knowing if he was going to make it made her unable to fight it anymore. Belle knows she shouldn’t but she does love him. EJ gets emotional which he blames on the coma and the trauma of the shooting. EJ tells Belle that his near death experience has been a wakeup call for him. EJ acknowledges that he’s done some terrible things recently and it’s made him realize that’s not the legacy he wants to leave behind. EJ states that most people don’t remember his father as a good friend or a loving husband, but as someone who was cruel, vindictive, and a tyrant. EJ declares that once he’s gone and the eulogies have been given, he doesn’t want the same to be true for him.

Shawn tells Jada that he’s going to the hospital to question EJ and invites her to come. Jada says she would, but Rafe is coming by soon. Shawn asks if this means Rafe is finally willing to forgive her for what happened. Jada responds that he should mean if she forgives him which Shawn questions. Jada explains that the night Rafe left Shawn’s house so abruptly was because he found her blouse and assumed they were still sleeping together. Shawn asks if she set him straight. Jada reveals that she tried, but it was too late because Rafe found a way to even the score by sleeping with his ex-wife Sami.

Gabi asks Rafe if he thinks Jada has finally forgiven him for sleeping with Sami. Rafe hopes so but he doubts it. Gabi encourages that they are good people who love each other and they deserve grace, so she hopes they do find their way back to each other. Gabi says she has to get to the office, so when she gets back, she wants Rafe to tell her how it went. Gabi wishes him luck. Rafe thanks her and tells her the same as she exits. Rafe then goes back to his laptop with the bugging camera device and plugs it in. Rafe thinks back to retrieving the device from the DiMera Mansion where he planted it. Rafe then goes to play what’s on it, but it doesn’t work. Rafe then pulls it out and discovers the memory card is missing.

Gabi goes to her office and calls Javi, saying she didn’t approve the scented candles collection. Gabi is shocked to learn that Xander changed them and demands that Javi run everything by her first. Gabi hangs up and finds the Titan employee manual on her desk. Gabi angrily throws it across the room right as Brady enters the office.

Belle questions if EJ is saying there’s a kinder, gentler EJ underneath the toxic masculinity. EJ informs her that right before he was shot, he was standing in the living room and had an epiphany where suddenly all his sins were bare and he realized everyone in town hated him, even his own son. EJ says the guilt he feels knowing that Johnny and Chanel aren’t going to be parents is all because of him. Belle then reveals that Amy Choi changed her mind, so the adoption is back on and she drew up the paperwork yesterday. EJ is thrilled and calls that wonderful. Belle notes the one condition is that EJ will have nothing to do with the child’s life.

Chanel reminds Johnny that she’s meeting her mom for lunch. Johnny tells her to have fun. Chanel adds that Belle will be stopping by to get Johnny’s signature on the adoption papers and then Tate and Sophia’s baby will officially be their baby. Chanel says she’ll see him later and exits.

EJ asks if Belle is saying he’ll never be able to meet his own grandchild and if he’ll never be able to see Johnny again either. Belle clarifies that he and Johnny can still technically have a relationship, it just can’t involve the child. EJ worries about Johnny cutting him out of his life completely and says he couldn’t bear never being able to speak to his son again. Belle encourages that things will be okay as she believes he and Johnny will work things out. EJ thanks Belle for being there as it means more to him than he can express. EJ thanks her from the bottom of his heart for saying she loves him right as Shawn then enters the room.

Brady asks if Gabi is not a fan of the Titan employee manual. Gabi complains that this takeover sucks and she can’t believe she was happier at DiMera since Kristen at least stayed out of her way. Gabi argues that Philip and Xander are stopping every plan she had and they have no sense. Gabi declares that she made Gabi Chic a success and she doesn’t need them interfering with everything she comes up with. Brady feels they have to get some credit since they did what Victor always wanted in taking over DiMera. Gabi argues that EJ was in a coma while Kristen was in a holding cell, now Xander and Philip have free reign over her company. Gabi calls it unfair. Brady says he hears her and he’s sorry about that. Brady assumes now is not a great time to talk to her about a Gabi Chic/Basic Black collaboration so he’ll leave her to it and come back later. Gabi stops him and says maybe he can help her get out of this mess.

Chanel meets Paulina for lunch at the Brady Pub. Chanel gives her a list of things that she and Johnny need to do before the baby arrives, starting with finding their own place. Paulina says they can stay with her and Abe as long as they need but Chanel reminds her that there would be a crying baby waking her up at 3 AM.

Johnny looks up on his phone and reads that there’s been no arrest in the shooting of EJ but that Jada vowed not to rest until the culprit is behind bars.

Rafe goes to meet Jada and they go to the interrogation room at the police station. Jada thanks him for coming. Rafe is glad she called, but figured since it’s at the station, she doesn’t want to talk about their relationship. Jada responds that she actually does and figured it should just be on neutral territory. Jada declares that she doesn’t think they have a relationship anymore. Rafe argues that she said she wanted space. Jada says she did, but there’s not enough space to fix them. Rafe knows he hurt her by sleeping with Sami. Jada says at this point, they both hurt each other and whether it was intentional or not, she doesn’t see how they can move forward from this. Jada states that they had some really great times together and she will always cherish those memories, but she doesn’t think they knew each other as well as she thought they did. Jada thinks it’s best that they end things. Rafe feels like part of him agrees that maybe too much has happened but part of him wants to fight for them since they were so happy together and were going to get married. Rafe asks if they are just throwing it all away. Jada says she’s gone back and forth and repeats that she’ll always be grateful for the beautiful times they had, but the trust has been broken and she doesn’t see how that can be undone. Rafe questions how they got here. Jada says a big part of it falls on EJ and his whole Arnold Feniger disaster, but admits they were on shaky ground before that from when Paulina offered her Rafe’s job. Jada says he was generous and supportive, but it changed something with them and she felt it. Rafe guesses he did too. Jada wants Rafe to know that he means the world to her as he came in to her life and loved her when she needed to be loved badly, so she will never forget that and always cherish that. Jada adds that she did love Rafe and still does. Rafe responds that he loves her too and he’s grateful for everything. Rafe asks if that’s it and it’s over. Jada thinks it’s for the best.

Shawn apologizes for interrupting and says he’s here on official police business as he has a few questions for EJ about the night he was shot. Belle says she has somewhere to be anyway, so she will come back later and then exits. EJ asks Shawn what he wants to know. Shawn says they are taking a closer look at Ava Vitali and asks if he has any memory of her from that night. EJ doesn’t believe he saw her that night, but he still has gaps in his memory. Shawn asks if he remembers his last encounter with Ava. EJ recalls running in to her the night before outside the Pub and admits it was contentious as she was still accusing him of having a hand in her kidnapping. Shawn asks if he has anything concrete that would implicate her. EJ says it’s not much, but she was vowing to get justice for his alleged misdeeds and he’d say that’s a threat which Shawn agrees with.

Rafe supposes it is best for now that he and Jada take a break from each other. Rafe brings up that Jada said he means the world to her and he feels the exact same way about her. Rafe recalls when they first got together. Rafe adds that when Steve gets back to Estonia, he’s going to resign from Black Patch because he got a call from his old boss at the FBI, who offered him an out of town position. Jada says they will be lucky to have him back. Rafe says he was on the fence about it, but in light of recent developments, he will accept the offer. Jada wishes him the best and admits she will miss him. Rafe says he will miss her too as they hug one last time.

Brady asks how Gabi thinks he could help her. Gabi says he could talk to Xander and Philip to persuade them to let her buy back the rights to Gabi Chic since they respect him. Brady says they both know Gabi Chic is a cash cow and questions that they would just hand it back to her. Gabi argues that Basic Black covers most of the same, so there’s no sense in Titan controlling both brands. Brady questions thinking they would listen to him. Gabi argues that he’s family, so they trust him. Brady thinks she is highly overestimating his influence over Xander and Philip. Brady then questions why he would go out of her way to help her.

Belle brings the adoption papers to Johnny. Johnny stops and puts the papers down to talk to Belle about something first. Johnny says when they first started planning the adoption, he was all in and then he found out what EJ did to Sami and how he was conceived. Johnny says that really messed with his head and now his whole sense of self is screwed up. Belle asks what he’s saying. Johnny responds that he’s not sure he’s ready to be a father. Belle understands him thinking that he’s not ready to be dad, especially with all that’s happened, but that doesn’t mean he’ll never be ready. Johnny feels maybe it does. Johnny talks about his parents having a really unhealthy relationship based on lies and it got him wondering if being a bad parent is genetic. Johnny adds that he started thinking why he’d want to have a kid if they are going to grow up to be just as messed up as he is now. Belle understands his reservations and says no one will blame him to give it more thought. Belle says it’s okay to be honest with himself, but he needs to be honest with Chanel about her feelings. Johnny agrees and thanks her. Belle decides that she will come back when or if he’s ready as they hug.

Paulina and Chanel talk about their excitement of Chanel’s dreams of having a family coming true. Paulina encourages that Chanel will be a wonderful mom and she can’t wait to start planning for her baby shower. Chanel mentions seeing the most adorable baby clothes at Gabi Chic, so Paulina decides they have some shopping to do.

Gabi questions what she’s ever done to Brady. Brady asks if she’s serious. Gabi argues that was ages ago. Brady says that won’t fly with him. Brady agrees it was awhile ago but calls it pretty unforgivable for Gabi and Stefan to say they would get him custody of his daughter, only to double cross him. Gabi argues that it’s even more reason to get her out of the company. Brady says even if he agreed to help her, he can’t as he has a lot on his plate with his family. Gabi argues that it’s not like she’s asking for a kidney as she’s just asking him to talk to Philip and Xander. Brady instead advises Gabi to suck it up and stick it out.

Jada remains in the interrogation room, looking at an old photo of her and Rafe on her phone. Shawn arrives, so Jada asks how it went with EJ. Shawn says that EJ certainly believes Ava could’ve done it and that she made a vague verbal threat the day before, but nothing that proves she did it. Shawn asks if Jada is okay. Jada informs him that she just broke things off with Rafe. Shawn says he’s sorry. Jada says it was difficult, but she thinks it was the right thing to do. Shawn doesn’t think either of them are in the right space for police work and suggests they go have lunch. Jada isn’t sure she feels like dealing with the public right now, so Shawn invites her to get takeout back to his place which Jada says sounds perfect.

Belle returns to EJ and asks how things went with Shawn. EJ informs her that he told him that the police are looking in to Ava Vitali as the shooter. Belle says that if it was Ava, she probably won’t be back as she heard that Ava skipped town. EJ tells Belle that he’s sorry for outing her love for him earlier as he didn’t know Shawn was there. Belle says it’s okay as it’s only a matter of time before Sami will be writing about how wretched her sister is for falling in love with her ex-husband. EJ asks if Sami knows how she feels. Belle confirms that Sami came to see Johnny and coincidentally walked in as she was declaring her love for him. EJ asks how Sami reacted. Belle says she reacted how she always does and made it about herself, telling Belle to help herself to her leftovers. EJ knows Belle will get a lot of heat from her family about her feeling for him, but he senses that in spite of that, she feels that this is meant to be. EJ knows she is strong enough to handle anyone else’s opinion or disapproval. Belle admits that EJ was right when he said that he was in her head and her heart.

Chanel and Paulina return home to Johnny with lots of bags of baby clothes. Chanel excitedly talks about everything they got.

Rafe returns home where Gabi asks how it went with Jada. Rafe tells her that it’s over. Gabi says she’s so sorry and hugs him. Rafe says they were so happy together until they weren’t. Gabi encourages that maybe it’s not over forever and they just need some time apart. Rafe says he just has to respect the fact that she’s moving on, so he must as well. Rafe adds that there was something he wanted to tell Gabi, but also ask her. Rafe explains that he went to watch some video footage but the memory card was missing from the camera. Rafe asks if Gabi knows anything about it. Gabi says she doesn’t and hopes he didn’t lose anything important.

EJ assures Belle that she is in his head and heart as well. EJ feels blessed that she could see the best in him. Belle tells EJ that she hasn’t forgiven him for all the pain he’s caused the people she loves, but because of her feelings for him, she’s doing her damndest to see the best in him because she believes people can change. Belle thinks maybe she can help him change. EJ feels she already has. EJ declares that Belle saying she loves him makes him want to be a better man. Belle recalls when she wore a wire and how angry EJ was. Belle says she’s not apologizing for that but she hopes they can put it behind them. Belle also hopes she’s never in a position of having to do that. EJ promises she won’t have to ever again. EJ then thinks back to the night of the shooting, revealing that he found Rafe’s camera device planted in the statue and removed the memory card. Belle asks what EJ is thinking about. EJ says he just hates what he put her and a lot of people through, so he’s glad they can finally be honest with each other.

Jada and Shawn eat together at Shawn’s where Shawn informs Jada about Belle being in love with EJ. Jada says she’s so sorry. Shawn thought he would be more bothered by it but says he’s not because they are both moving on with their lives. Shawn then gets a call from Hope, who informs him that she has bad news. Shawn asks what happened to Bo.

Chad and Cat talk about the fundraiser really helping the hospital and how they really pulled it off. Chad admits it turned out to be pretty fun and that it was nice to get to know the real her. Cat says she’s so happy to get to know him better and now it’s over.

Maggie goes to the Brady Pub and congratulates Kayla on the fundraiser being a rousing success. Kayla comments the people are pretty generous even though it’s just a band-aid. Kayla thanks Maggie for covering all the coffee for everybody. Maggie points out that she has yet to make her actual donation. Maggie comments that all her Titan stock is tied up in DiMera while in the old days, Victor could’ve written one check and made it all go away. Kayla appreciates anything she can do. Maggie tells Kayla how everyone appreciates her work in the hospital and how respected she is. Kayla admits the whole hospital situation has been weighing on her and Sarah. Maggie remarks that Sarah has a lot on her shoulders these days.

Xander brings Sarah a hot dog in the town square and questions her talking to Philip and says it seems cordial. Xander asks why she would even give Philip the time of day after everything he did to him.

In the town square, Kristen tells Rachel that she’s wrapping things up. Rachel complains that she wants to hang out with her friends. Kristen says she has business to take care of, so Rachel wants to stay by herself and argues that she’s old enough. Kristen initially refuses but agrees to let Rachel stay with her friend as well as Chad and says she’ll be back to pick her up later. Rachel questions where Kristen is going anyway.

EJ remains in his hospital bed and dreams about the night he was shot until he wakes up in a panic.

Sarah tells Xander that she’s not Philip’s biggest fan but she’s not going to call him out in the middle of the town square. Xander argues that it would serve him right, asking who lies to someone about their birthright. Sarah thinks it’s important to be civil right now for Maggie’s sake. Xander comments on how lucky Philip is that Maggie cares about him. Maggie then comes over and asks what she interrupted. Sarah says they might as well tell her. Xander informs Maggie that they were just discussing how Philip lied to them all about Victor’s last wishes.

Chad tells Cat that just because they aren’t working together doesn’t mean they won’t see each other anymore since they do live in the same town. JJ comes over and greets them. Chad jokes that he hopes JJ isn’t mad at him for making him come to this. JJ says he’s not mad and is happy that he came. Chad mentions that he hopes JJ and Gabi work things out but JJ says they have not.

Kristen goes to see EJ in the hospital. EJ says it’s good to see her which Kristen doubts. Kristen says EJ must be the luckiest son of a bitch alive since not many people survive a gunshot to the chest at point blank range. Kristen tells EJ that the only reason she’s here and that she’s grateful he pulled through is that she can finally get some answers. Kristen then asks EJ what the hell he did with her mother.

Xander explains to Maggie that if not for this forged letter, he never would’ve had to share his CEO position with Philip. Sarah claims they were all shocked when they found out yesterday and Maggie was out so she didn’t hear about it. Xander notes that Maggie doesn’t seem that shocked. Maggie tries to cover, so Sarah spills ketchup from her hot dog on herself so that Xander will go get napkins. Maggie questions Sarah as to how Xander found out. Sarah informs her that Vivian told him. Maggie guesses Xander doesn’t know about Sarah’s involvement. Sarah confirms that but notes that Xander went after Philip with a vengeance and kicked him out of the house. Maggie asks if she’s going to tell Xander that she knew about the letter. Sarah says she doesn’t know as she kept the secret because she convinced herself that she was doing it for a good reason and to prevent Xander from doing anything that would get him sent away, but now it feels like she’s only keeping the secret to protect herself and her marriage. Sarah asks if she’s being selfish.

Chad questions JJ accusing Gabi of shooting EJ. JJ explains that he was just doing his job as they had to question everyone who had issues with EJ, but Gabi felt betrayed. Thomas comes over and questions why Chad washed off his face paint. Chad says that wouldn’t bring in the big bucks at the auction. Thomas asks if they can go play some games now so Chad goes with them. Cat stops JJ and says she knows it’s really uncomfortable to be around her after she impersonated his sister. JJ questions if she really wants to talk about this now. Cat says she doesn’t and tells JJ that he’s a really great guy that Gabi is lucky to have. Cat talks about being grateful that Chad forgave her for doing something terrible and encourages that Gabi will forgive JJ because he was just doing his job. Cat repeats that Gabi is lucky to have JJ in her life and says that’s all she wanted to say.

EJ claims to Kristen that he has no idea where her mother is. Kristen tells him to cut the crap as she knows he’s lying. EJ swears to not know where she is and that he had nothing to do with her disappearance, but he prays that she finds her soon. Kristen doesn’t know what the hell is going on or why he’s being so sensitive, but she blames the coma. EJ tells Kristen that if he could help her find her mother, he would. Kristen says she does want her mother back very badly, but her priorities are currently split between her need to wrestle DiMera Enterprises back from Xander, so she’s willing to call a temporary truce so that she and EJ can work together to get the company back under their family’s control. Kristen assumes she can count on EJ, but he says he’s afraid she can’t.

JJ goes to the Brady Pub and asks if Kayla is busy as he needs a giant favor about EJ and the shooting. JJ says that nobody on the force has been able to question EJ. Kayla argues that EJ almost died and just came out of a coma. JJ says he just has a few questions as EJ has to know something to point them in the right direction. Kayla says last time she saw EJ, he had no memory of anything about the shooting. JJ says it could improve over time so he may have remembered something new. JJ pleads that he has to try and says now that Gabi is a suspect, the best thing he can do to help her is to find out who really did this. JJ asks if there’s anything Kayla can do.

Kristen questions EJ turning her down after everything he put her through. Kristen asks if this is some kind of game. EJ responds that he’s changed which Kristen laughs at. EJ says he had a lot of time to reflect while in the coma and he didn’t like the man he saw or the man Johnny saw when he looked at him. EJ explains that before the shooting, he assumed he would have time to make things right with his son but that chance was almost taken away from him, so now he knows he needs to be better. EJ declares that it’s time he start to use his power for good in this world. Kristen says he has to be kidding. Kristen questions believing that EJ spent a few days in a coma and now he’s a stand up guy with a heart of gold.

Maggie tells Sarah if she came to her when she first found out, she would’ve told her to be honest and tell Xander right away, but now she’s not sure any good would come of it other than easing Sarah’s conscience. Sarah isn’t sure it would even do that and calls it a no win situation completely. Xander returns with Rachel, who invites Sarah to come play games with her which she accepts. Maggie stops Xander to ask what his plans are for Philip’s role in the company now. Xander says h doesn’t have much choice since Wei Shin thinks if he and Philip don’t play nice, it could jeopardize the DiMera takeover, so he’s stuck with him. Maggie asks Xander to find compassion for Philip. Maggie knows he’s angry and hurt but at the end of the day, she truly believes Xander and Philip working together as brothers is what Victor would’ve wanted. Xander tells her it’s too tall of an order.

Kristen tells EJ that this reeks of desperation and he’s usually more convincing. EJ insists that it’s not an act and says that nearly dying changed his perspective on everything. Kristen remarks that the person who shot him should win the Nobel Peace Prize then or at least a thank you card for causing this miraculous transformation. Kristen adds that her money is still on Gabi. EJ states that Susan did have a vision that Gabi was in the mansion on the night of the attack. EJ then suggests maybe the real killer is Kristen. EJ recalls their most recent heated exchange about her mother was earlier that evening where she demanded answers and threatened him. EJ hopes that she didn’t take it any further. Kristen thinks back to pulling out her gun after their argument. Kristen assures EJ that she didn’t do it and asks if he really thinks she’d risk going back to prison and having her daughter raised without her. EJ guesses not but says even if she had done it, he would’ve forgiven her. Kristen doesn’t care about his phony forgiveness. Kristen adds that if she did hold him at gunpoint, she would get him to tell her where her mother is and only then would she blow him to kingdom come. JJ then enters with Kayla and asks if it’s a bad time.

Maggie joins Chad, Cat, and Thomas in the town square. Thomas tells her how much fun he’s having and about the games. Cat takes Thomas to get signed up. Maggie mentions to Chad that she hasn’t seen Charlotte. Chad explains that she went to get lunch with Stephanie away from the fundraiser and that they had a little issue where Charlotte worried that whoever bid on him in the auction would take him away from her after losing her mother. Cat stops by and listens in as Chad blames himself and says he probably would’ve backed out of the auction if he wasn’t doing it for the hospital. Maggie encourages that Charlotte knows in her heart that he would never leave and would never replace Abigail. Cat comes back over and tells Chad that Thomas is requesting his help with the game. Chad thanks Maggie for the talk and goes to help Thomas.

EJ tells JJ that it’s not a bad time at all and that Kristen was just blowing off steam but nothing important. JJ says he just came to ask a few questions. Kayla wants to make sure it’s a few since she has to get back to the hospital fundraiser. Kristen tells EJ that she’s happy he’s awake and remarks that she’s sure he’ll be back to his old self in no time as she then walks out. EJ asks JJ what exactly he wants to know. JJ says it’s pretty simple and asks if EJ saw who shot him. EJ responds that he’s sorry to disappoint him, but he had been drinking before the shooting and everything after a certain point is a blur. Kayla doubts it was the alcohol and says it’s very common for patients to have gaps in their memory. JJ questions EJ having no other memory of a face or sound. EJ recalls speaking with Chanel and then she left him on his own in his living room but after that it’s all a blank. JJ asks if he’s sure he doesn’t remember anything else. Kayla suggests not pushing it since EJ needs time to recover and can’t force his memories to come back. JJ thanks EJ for his cooperation and says he’ll be in touch soon. EJ asks if he can have a word with Kayla as JJ exits. EJ tells Kayla that her aid in his recovery has not gone unappreciated especially with how she feels about him. Kayla acknowledges that he’s important to people she cares about, like Sami who came to check on him while he was in a coma. EJ responds that nobody told him that Sami was there. EJ guesses Sami must hate him even more now that Johnny’s life has been shattered by the truth and he wants nothing to do with him ever again. Kayla says they will set up a new round of scans and she will get it going first thing in the morning. Kayla tells EJ that just to be fair, Johnny also came to see him, so he hasn’t written him off completely. Kayla then exits the room and rejoins JJ. Kayla knows JJ didn’t get the answers he was looking for. JJ knows he didn’t have high hopes but felt it was worth a try. Kayla knows he wants to solve the case but invites him to come back with her to the fundraiser. Kayla mentions getting the auction going again and says Chad could use the support. JJ appreciates the invite but promises to catch up with her later. Kayla says she’ll hold him to that as she exits the hospital. JJ then gets an alert on his phone with an email from the ballistics department.

Kristen returns to the town square where Rachel was with Sarah and Xander. Kristen asks Xander if she can have a moment, so Sarah takes Rachel to play more games. Xander tells Kristen that she’ll be wasting her breath if she’s going to beg for her company back. Kristen responds that she never begs, but she is offering something more appealing.

JJ calls Jada about the e-mail from ballistics and says that the bullet was still do damaged to get proper ID. JJ notes they said the caliber is the same as Melinda’s gun but they can’t get an exact match which means the gun can’t be ruled out as the weapon which also means that Ava is still a suspect.

Xander tells Kristen that she can’t offer him anything that’s more valuable than his two companies. Kristen asks if he’s not going to let her make a pitch. Xander insists that he’s not interested, so Kristen then dumps her cup of water on him.

Cat and Chad go to the Brady Pub where Cat tells Chad that she overheard what he said to Maggie, so she understands if he wants to back out of the bachelor auction, but Chad says he made a commitment so he’s sticking to it and jokes that he’s not giving her an excuse to back out. Kayla enters and calls for everyone’s attention to announce the auction has gone on longer than they planned so they will continue the final portion online via the hospital’s website. Kayla thanks everyone for their support and presents the last bachelor of the live auction, Chad DiMera. Maggie immediately announces a bid of 1 million dollars for a date with Chad as they hug. Chad thanks Maggie, who says it was for a good cause in both Chad and the hospital. Chad is grateful that she got him out of going on a random date that he was dreading. Maggie jokes that she expects to be wined and dined as Cat watches on with a smile.

Sarah brings Rachel back to Xander. Rachel questions Xander being all wet. Xander informs her that Kristen threw her drink at him which Rachel questions. Kristen then comes back and remarks that Xander seems to be drying off nicely. Xander removes his shirt as Kristen takes Rachel and walks away. Xander comments that people will be wondering why he has his shirt off while Sarah jokes that no one will mind. Sarah suggests they go home and play their own carnival games as they kiss and then exit together. Chad and Cat walk through the town square. Cat jokes about wondering if Maggie will rescue her from the auction too and Chad jokes that she’ll have to get her own millionaire. Rachel sees them and comments to Kristen as she still thinks that Cat is Abigail. Kristen tells her it’s not but Rachel reminds her that she used to live with them. Kristen calls it more complicated than that and says she’ll explain when they get home. Cat starts to apologize to Chad as Kayla comes over and says they must so be proud of the fundraiser’s success. Chad then walks away before Cat can apologize, leaving her frustrated.

JJ gets a call back from Tripp and asks if he can talk to Ava as he thought she was staying with him and Wendy. Tripp then reveals to JJ that Ava has gone to a Tibetan Monastery.

EJ remains in his hospital bed and has a flashback to seeing Rafe’s bugged camera device in the living room.

Cat joins Kayla in the town square which is decorated with balloons and various booths for the hospital fundraiser. They talk about how they can’t believe it’s finally here. Kayla has a good feeling that they will raise a lot of money and tells Cat that she and Chad did a wonderful job.

JJ goes to the Horton House where Chad invites JJ to come with him and the kids to the hospital fundraiser. JJ responds that he wasn’t planning on going because he’s not really in the mood. Chad asks what happened. JJ informs him that he thinks he ruined things with Gabi.

Gabi joins Leo and Javi in the living room of the Hernandez house as they are looking through the bachelors for the bachelor auction at the hospital fundraiser. Javi remarks that Alex is definitely a top contender.

Stephanie brings Alex coffee in bed and asks what he was thinking about before she walked in. Alex tries to claim nothing but admits he was thinking about everything that happened yesterday when they covered for Sarah by not telling Xander that she was in on Philip’s secret and wondering if she deserved it. Stephanie thinks it was just as much for Xander since he obviously felt terribly betrayed by Philip. Stephanie tells Alex to imagine how Xander would feel knowing his own wife betrayed him too.

Sarah has a nightmare about Philip telling Xander that she knew he forged the letter. Xander then wakes Sarah up, reminding her about the hospital fundraiser.

Alex agrees with Stephanie that if Xander found out Sarah knew, his head would’ve exploded. Stephanie didn’t agree with Sarah that keeping the secret from Xander was a good idea, but she understands her reasons. They agree that it would be a bad time for Xander to find out. Alex notes they are in the middle of their DiMera takeover. Alex says that Sarah put Stephanie in a very tough spot and she did what she felt was right in the moment. Stephanie concludes that they both feel terrible about it but suggests they put their guilt aside for the hospital fundraiser. Alex stops her and says maybe it would be better if he didn’t go. Stephanie argues that he has to go, reminding him that he volunteered for the bachelor auction. Alex points out that being weird since he’s not single. Stephanie says they can’t make that clear at the fundraiser or nobody will bid on him but as long as it’s clear to him as they kiss.

Javi recognizes Alex from being on Body and Soul. Leo guesses he’s using his hotness for good these days but brings up when Alex tried to kill him over what he did to Sonny. Javi asks if there’s anyone else he should know about that has a death wish against him. Leo clarifies that Alex doesn’t anymore and jokes that Alex threatening to kill him was actually pretty hot. Leo states that he thinks men defending their love is hot and brings up Javi defending him to Sami. Gabi intervenes to point out that Alex isn’t gay or single as he’s dating Stephanie. Leo responds that what happens at the fundraiser stays at the fundraiser. Gabi hopes not while Javi encourages Gabi to select who she would bid on. Gabi doesn’t want to play but Javi says it’s just for fun and they won’t tell JJ. Gabi angrily responds that she doesn’t give a damn about JJ.

Chad asks JJ why he thinks he ruined things with Gabi and what happened. JJ thinks back to Gabi getting mad at him for thinking she shot EJ. JJ then tells Chad that they just had a big fight. Chad hopes they can work things out. JJ says he tried calling her but she doesn’t want to talk to him and is really mad. Chad encourages JJ to just give her some space and suggests taking his mind off things with the hospital fundraiser. Thomas and Charlotte come in to ask if it’s time to go to the fundraiser yet. Chad says almost and whispers to the kids so that Thomas urges JJ to come with them. Chad decides it looks like JJ is coming with them then.

Chad and JJ go to the town square with Thomas and Charlotte for the hospital fundraiser, joining Kayla and Cat. Chad and Cat joke about the work they did in putting it together. Chad thanks Cat for finishing the last minute things. Cat says decorating was the fun part, so she enjoyed it. Cat asks Thomas and Charlotte what they think. Thomas remembers Cat from Thanksgiving while Charlotte says she likes her name. Cat decides to take Thomas and Charlotte to the face painting booth while Chad says he’ll be over there in a minute. Chad talks to Kayla about being proud of his kids and how they’ve been patient with him lately. Chad mention being so thankful that EJ woke up. Kayla encourages that EJ is doing great and having no complications. Kayla asks JJ if there’s any leads on who shot EJ. JJ responds that they are trying to track down Ava Vitali. Kayla hopes it’s not her for Tripp’s sake but questions if Ava is on the run since Roman said she left town. JJ confirms that Ava left town the night of the shooting.

Javi questions Gabi saying that JJ thinks she shot EJ. Gabi calls it ridiculous which Leo argues against and points out that Kristen has been cleared. Javi knows they have beef but questions if Leo really thinks Gabi would do that. Leo says he was just playing devil’s advocate and to forget he said anything. Javi invites Gabi to come to the hospital fundraiser with them to take her mind off of things. Leo points out that if Gabi is trying to stick it to JJ for accusing her, she could bid on one of the bachelors, herself.

Alex and Stephanie talk about how Alex is supposed to act like he’s single for the bachelor auction. Stephanie says she’s willing to sacrifice for a good cause. Alex points out that the whole idea is that he goes on a date with the winning lady. Stephanie remarks that it could also be a guy as they are not limiting it to gender. Alex jokingly asks if Stephanie is giving him a hall pass to sleep with another lady and says he’s just checking the boundaries. Stephanie assures that she’s not and that his date will be totally innocent and not romantic because Alex will reveal to his date that he is in a wonderful relationship with an amazing woman who is perfect for him. Alex assures that she is the only one for him as they kiss.

Sarah and Xander go to the hospital fundraiser. Sarah comments on them going all out and says she wishes they brought Victoria. Xander thinks it’s good that they let her nap. Sarah knows Xander is thinking about what Philip did to him and asks if they can forget about Philip for just one day. Xander calls that easier said than done as he points out Philip arriving to the fundraiser.

Cat finishes face painting for Thomas and Charlotte as Chad watches on. Thomas asks if Cat has done face painting before. Cat recalls painting her sister’s face as a rainbow tiger. Charlotte asks if Cat has kids. Cat says she doesn’t but someday she hopes to. Cat looks to Chad and asks what he thinks of the kids’ facepaint. Chad praises it as the kids thank Cat. Thomas then tells Chad it’s his turn and suggests he get a rainbow tiger.

Javi, Leo, and Gabi go to the Brady Pub for the bachelor and bachelorette auction. Javi and Leo sign up which surprises Gabi as she thought they were kidding. Leo says it’s for a good cause while Javi says there’s nothing wrong with a dinner. Leo jokes about Alex. Gabi decides she’s just going to watch. Javi asks if she doesn’t want to save the hospital. Javi then questions if it’s about JJ and points out that JJ wasn’t loyal to Gabi when he was treating her like a criminal. Gabi then agrees to sign up.

Stephanie and Alex go to the hospital fundraiser, joining Kayla and JJ. They talk about the good turnout and then they see Philip confronting Xander, who questions him showing his face here. Philip explains that he spent the night at the Salem Inn and came out for coffee. Sarah tries to pull Xander away. Xander suggests Philip leave town and says he’s not his brother anymore so he has no reason to stay. Philip knows Xander has every right to be angry but he’s not his only family in Salem. Xander remarks that they’d be better off without his lying, cheating ass hanging around. JJ comes over to ask if everything is okay. Xander responds that he’d like Philip arrested for fraud. JJ questions what kind of fraud. Xander calls it personal fraud. JJ wants a definition. Xander makes up a story about Philip spewing nonsense about Titan. JJ asks for further details. Xander insists on it being personal fraud. JJ remarks that lying isn’t a crime, so it sounds like a civil matter and suggests he talk to a lawyer. Xander says he’ll have his in-house counsel look in to it but suggests JJ stick around because he’s seriously considering killing his brother. Sarah argues that Xander has a dry sense of humor and doesn’t really mean that. JJ hopes not since he’s already working on one attempted murder case. Sarah calls it brotherly bickering and nothing to worry about.

Kayla goes to the Brady Pub to begin the bachelor and bachelorette auction. Kayla explaisn that every dollar raised will go straight to the hospital. Kayla starts the auction by calling Alex Kiriakis as the first bachelor. Kayla starts the bidding at $500 which Leo bids. Stephanie bids $600. Javi then bids $700. Stephanie then ups it to $1000. Stephanie is about to win when JJ walks in to the Pub, so Gabi then bids $10,000 to win the date with Alex, shocking Stephanie and Alex.

Cat finishes painting Chad’s face as a rainbow tiger. Chad agrees with the kids that it’s pretty sick but questions who will want to bid on a rainbow tiger at the bachelor auction.

Kayla asks if there’s any more bids. Gabi stares at JJ and ups her own bid to $15,000 to officially win the date with Alex.

Philip guesses he owes Xander a thank you. Xander says he didn’t make up the story for him but explains that Wei Shin worried that the DiMeras could nullify the takeover if they found out about Philip’s deception. Xander remarks that beating Philip to a pulp is still fair game but Sarah stops him and says that won’t solve anything. Sarah then tells Xander that she’s starving and asks him to go get them hot dogs. Xander questions her wanting hot dogs right now. Sarah insists so Xander agrees to go. Xander wonders if there’s a pinata around and remarks that maybe he can find a baseball bat.

JJ joins Leo and Javi as Leo comments on Gabi winning a hot date with Alex. Javi remarks that Alex didn’t accuse her of shooting EJ. JJ points out that Gabi just spent an insane amount of money just to make him jealous. Leo mocks that idea and says Gabi was just getting what she wants, which isn’t JJ. Kayla thanks Gabi and says they weren’t expecting to raise so much in one round. Gabi hopes she set the bar for the rest of the auction. Kayla walks away and then Stephanie and Alex approach. Stephanie congratulates Gabi and jokes that Alex is worth way more than that as he’s priceless. Gabi says she has to agree. Gabi asks Alex where they should go for their $15,000 date.

Charlotte asks Chad what a bid is. Cat explains that people will be bidding on Chad to take him somewhere fun. Charlotte gets mad and tells Chad that he can’t go because what if they don’t bring him back.

Alex tells Gabi that they can go where ever she wants since it’s what she paid for. Gabi says she will come up with some ideas. Stephanie thanks Gabi and says her donation will go a long way towards saving the hospital. Stephanie remarks that there are some things money can’t buy as she walks with Alex. Leo and Javi talk about not winning the auction but being enough for each other.

Chad assures Charlotte that he will be coming back and will only be gone for a little while. Cat adds that no one will ever take away her dad. Chad tells the kids that they are the most important things in the world to him. Chad encourages that when he goes out, they’ll get to spend time with Julie and he will call them like he always does as he hugs Charlotte. Stephanie walks up and asks if everything is okay. Chad says they were just clearing up confusion about the terms of the auction. Stephanie assures Charlotte that Kayla will make sure everybody gets brought back. Stephanie decides to take Charlotte to check out the games. Thomas asks Chad if he can go show JJ his facepaint. Chad asks where JJ is. Thomas says he saw him go in to the auction. Chad tells him to come back after as Thomas then heads to the Pub.

Gabi thanks Kayla again for putting on the auction and says she can’t wait for her date with Alex. Gabi remarks in front of JJ that it will be nice to spend the evening with someone who doesn’t think she’s guilty of attempted murder. Kayla guesses that JJ inspired Gabi’s generosity. JJ stops Gabi and tells her that her bid was impressive as he wishes he had that kind of money to donate to the hospital. JJ then tells Gabi to enjoy her date as she walks out of the Pub.

Chad washes off his face paint. Cat apologizes about worrying Charlotte. Chad says it’s all good. Cat notes that he was really good in reassuring her. Chad talks about how Charlotte gets triggered after losing Abigail and it will make her think she’s losing him. Chad then gets a text from Kayla that the auction already raised $15,000 which Cat calls amazing. They agree that this fundraiser will really help the hospital. Cat says they really pulled it off.

Sarah tells Philip that she wanted to say sorry about what went down with Xander. Philip says it’s not her fault as he created this mess. Sarah says she still wanted to say sorry and thank him for not telling Xander that she knew about his secret. Sarah worries that if Xander found out now, it would be the end of their marriage. Philip says it’s obvious that Xander won’t be forgiving him any time soon, but he has no interest in unleashing his wrath on anyone else. Philip promises not to say anything. Sarah thanks him as Xander watches from nearby.

Gabi sits in the town square, eating ice cream until she gets a call from JJ. Gabi remarks that he’s still in the doghouse and rejects the call. Cat walks by, so Gabi calls out to her and says it’s been forever as she hasn’t seen her since Vancouver. Gabi asks how her mom is. Cat says she’s still recovering and that Aaron is with her. Gabi asks how she is. Cat responds that working on the hospital fundraiser with Chad has been wild. Gabi invites her to sit down and asks what’s the deal with Cat and Chad.

Chad is at home, finishing a call about the hospital fundraiser being tomorrow. Chad thanks them for the Salem Inn’s generous donation and is told Cat already did. Chad admits that Cat has been terrific and has made planning the fundraiser really fun. Chad calls it bummer that they will officially be done tomorrow. Chad agrees that he and Cat made a good team and he’s going to miss working with her.

Chanel asks Paulina if she’s going to the hospital fundraiser. Paulina says she’s going to try but she’s been so busy and asks about Chanel and Johnny. Chanel says they’ll probably just send a check as she doesn’t think Johnny is ready for a big public event. Paulina thought she said he was in a better place after speaking with Sami. Chanel says he was, but as helpful as speaking to Sami was, Johnny doesn’t think he will ever get past his anger towards EJ.

Johnny goes to see Chad as he finishes his call. Johnny informs Chad that he took his advice and went to see EJ and he’s really glad that he did. Johnny admits that there’s no chance he would’ve done it without Chad’s encouragement, so he just wanted to thank him.

Susan says she could tell as soon as she walked in the room and that it doesn’t take a psychic to see that Belle cares about EJ. Susan tells Belle it’s in her heart. Belle guesses she has fought it for a long time but admits she loves EJ. Susan says it’s good that she’s here then and urges Belle to hold EJ’s hand, so she does. Susan then tells Belle to tell EJ that she loves him, which she does. EJ’s monitors then increase so Susan checks on him and EJ then wakes up, thrilling Susan and Belle. Susan asks EJ if he can hear her, noting that she and Belle have been so worried about him as she points out that Belle is right by EJ’s side. Belle decides she should go get Kayla and exits. Susan tells EJ not to speak and to just relax because he’s safe now and everything is going to be okay, now that he’s awake.

Cat tells Gabi that she and Chad are on good terms now. Gabi clarifies that she meant to ask if they are together. Cat questions what would make her think that. Gabi brings up when they were in Vancouver and says Chad was obviously still angry but feels there’s a thin line between love and hate. Gabi recalls there definitely being chemistry between Cat and Chad. Cat laughs it off as Gabi having a wild imagination. Cat repeats that she and Chad are on good terms and have come a long way since her pretending to be Abigail. Cat says they are working on the hospital fundraiser together and getting along, but all they are ever going to be is friends.

Chad tells Johnny that he thought it was important for him to talk to EJ so he didn’t have any regrets. Johnny informs Chad that when he showed up at the hospital, Sami was there. Chad is surprised she’s in town. Johnny says she left now, but they got to talk. Chad says that’s good as he knows he had a lot of questions for her. Johnny admits it was a difficult conversation but Sami was honest and forthcoming which he respects. Johnny doesn’t think he’ll ever understand the choices Sami made, but he does feel he understands her in a way he never had before because she told him about her childhood and stuff she went through that he never heard before. Johnny says he’s really proud of Sami and wants to just love and support her. Chad says that’s good to hear, then asks if the conversation changed how he feels about EJ.

Susan goes to find Belle at the hospital and tells her that EJ hasn’t said anything yet, but she knows he has a lot to tell them. Belle feels he needs to rest while Susan argues that he’s been resting for days. Susan suggests they go back to EJ’s room to try and boost his energy. Belle says she’s going to update the rest of EJ’s family first and then she’ll be back in. Susan heads back to EJ’s room while Belle thanks God that EJ is going to be okay, but she’s not sure she’s ready to face him yet.

Susan returns to EJ’s room as he is coughing after trying to drink water. EJ asks Susan what happened to him. Susan is excited that he’s speaking. EJ asks her again what happened to him. Susan agrees to tell him but says he will need to brace himself because it won’t be easy to take. Susan then informs EJ that someone shot him in the chest, which means he must have seen the person who did it. Susan asks EJ to tell her right now who shot him.

Sophia joins Tate at home and asks if there’s any word on John. Tate says nothing yet and he’s still missing. Sophia says she’s so sorry. Tate asks what brought her by. Sophia explains that her mom has been doing a lot of thinking about their pitch to have Johnny and Chanel adopt their baby. Tate guesses that’s a good thing. Sophia says it’s hard to tell but she feels Amy has finally made a decision.

Amy Choi goes to see Chanel and Paulina. She apologizes for dropping in unannounced. Paulina says it’s always a pleasure. Amy mentions hoping to speak to Chanel and Johnny. Chanel says Johnny isn’t home and asks what it’s about. Amy responds that it’s the possibility of them adopting her grandchild.

Gabi questions Cat being just friend with Chad and if there weren’t any sparks between them while working together. Cat thinks to when she spilled mustard on Chad and then tells Gabi that there were no sparks and she doesn’t even know when she will see Chad after the fundraiser is over. Cat asks if Gabi and JJ will be attending the fundraiser. Gabi responds that she’ll be there but not with JJ. Cat apologizes as she thought they were dating. Gabi confirms they are but they had a fight. Cat says she’s sorry and asks what it was about. Gabi responds that JJ just accused her of murder is all.

Johnny tells Chad that Sami gave him a lot of insight in to his parents’ relationship. Chad asks how that made him feel. Johnny says it was a lot, but Sami didn’t totally trash EJ and even said she genuinely loved him more than she’s loved any man. Johnny comments that their relationship was obviously toxic, but Sami said it wasn’t all EJ’s fault. Chad says it sounds like she’s come to terms with what happened and asks if Johnny has. Chad is interrupted by a call from Belle, who informs him that EJ is awake. Chad questions when that happened. Belle says just now and explains that Susan is there and EJ is out of his coma and doing great so far. Chad says Johnny is with him now, so he’ll let him know. Belle thanks him and hangs up. Johnny asks what’s going on. Chad informs Johnny that his dad is awake.

Susan asks EJ if he remembers who shot him. EJ responds that his mind is fuzzy and asks Susan to tell him more to maybe trigger something. Susan says all she knows is that Chad found him in the living room as he was clinging to life and he was shot in the chest. Susan adds that the bullet punctured his lung, so the doctors put him in a coma. EJ asks how long he’s been out. Susan says it’s been about a week, but earlier today Kayla felt it was time to bring him back and here he is. Susan asks if any of this is helping him remember the night he was shot. EJ responds that he does remember seeing someone. Susan asks who it was. Belle returns to the room as EJ tells her that he remembers what she did. Susan questions Belle, who denies shooting EJ. Susan starts to tell Belle to stay away from EJ, but EJ stops her and says she misunderstood. EJ clarifies that Belle did not shoot him in the chest, she stabbed him in the back metaphorically. EJ explains that Belle came to the house that night, wearing a wire for the police because she wanted to send him to prison. Susan questions Belle wanting to send him to prison when she just said that she loved him. Belle says she should go but EJ asks her not to. EJ asks Susan to give he and Belle a moment alone, assuring that he will be fine. Susan then exits. EJ then asks Belle if it’s true that she loves him.

Tate asks Sophia which way she thinks her mom is leaning. Sophia admits she doesn’t know. Tate hopes she comes around. Sophia says it would be nice to at least have that squared away and she could worry about everything else that comes with having a baby, like going through labor and actually giving birth. Tate says he can’t even imagine what that would be like. Sophia says lately, all she’s been doing is imagining and it’s really scary. Tate suggests he could help and says there’s usually someone in the room to be comforting and supportive which he could do. Sophia thinks she needs someone to keep her calm, so Tate says he’s her man then.

Amy informs Chanel and Paulina that Tate and Sophia have been trying to get her to reconsider the adoption by making the case that with EJ out of the picture, he won’t be involved in the baby’s life. Paulina assures that even if EJ makes a full recovery, Chanel and Johnny will make sure that EJ has no influence on the baby’s life. Chanel promises that EJ will have no part of it, so Amy decides she has no objections then. Chanel excitedly asks if Amy will let them adopt the baby then which she confirms.

Johnny didn’t realize that they were bringing EJ out of the coma or that Susan was in town. Chad tells Johnny he’ll give him a ride to the hospital. Johnny thinks back to stealing Roman’s gun from the Pub and then tells Chad that he’s not going to the hospital which Chad questions. Johnny asks what’s the point when he has nothing to say to EJ.

Cat questions Gabi about JJ accusing her of shooting EJ. Gabi complains that JJ grilled her like a common criminal. Gabi admits she hates EJ, but so does half the town. Gabi calls EJ a ruthless, heartless creep and admits that she believes EJ deserved to be shot. Susan then appears in the town square and tells Gabi to take that back as she will not allow her to talk about her boy like that. Gabi introduces Cat to Susan. Cat explains that she lived in the DiMera Mansion at one point and Susan is not how she pictured EJ’s mom. Susan tells her about people saying she looks more like EJ’s sister Kristen than his mom. Gabi tells Cat that she’ll explain another time. Susan questions if they are friends and advises Cat to stay far away from Gabi because she is mean. Gabi grabs Susan’s wrist and warns her to get her finger out of her face. Susan pulls away and declares that Gabi was at EJ’s house on the night he was shot.

Tate looks up some exercises that he and Sophia can do along with breathing techniques and asks if she wants to give it a shot which Sophia agrees to.

Paulina assures Amy that she is making the best possible decision for her grandchild as Johnny and Chanel will love the baby with all their heart. Chanel recalls her miscarriage last summer being heartbreaking but it made her and Johnny realize how much they wanted to start a family and now Amy is giving them another chance, so she is profoundly grateful nd excited. Chanel says she has to call Johnny to tell him the news, but Johnny texts her first that EJ is out of the coma.

Belle tells EJ that he just woke up from a coma, so they can have this conversation another time. EJ accuses her of avoiding the question and asks if she did or didn’t say that she loves him. Chad arrives, interrupting them as he asks if EJ is okay. Belle says she’ll let them talk and tells EJ goodnight and that she hopes he has a speedy recovery as she then exits. Chad tells EJ that he’s so relieved and this is such good news. EJ notes that he was told he has Chad to thank. Chad says the police thought he showed up right after he got shot. EJ asks what brought him to the house. Chad reminds him of the voicemail he left after the article printed in the Spectator. EJ tells him to forget it but Chad feels guilty for printing the article which was unflattering and made a lot of people angry, so he can’t help but feel responsible. Chad swears to do everything in his power to find out who did this to him. Chad asks if EJ remembers anything. EJ responds that he’s still trying to piece together that night. EJ recalls Belle being there that day, but she definitely left. EJ then remembers that someone else was there too.

Gabi thinks Susan is confused. Susan insists that Gabi was at EJ’s house on the night he was shot and she feels it in her bones. Gabi thinks back to being outside the DiMera Mansion but tells Susan she’s making no sense. Susan tells Gabi not to try to deny that she was at the house on the night that someone tried to murder EJ, so the question is if she was that someone. Gabi claims to have no idea what she’s talking about and that she wasn’t anywhere near the DiMera Mansion. Susan tells Gabi to play dumb, but then informs her that EJ is awake as of an hour ago and he’s going to point his finger right at Gabi. Susan says she’s off to get EJ some hot tea. Susan stops and advises Cat on the candy she sent to her mom as she walks away. Gabi encourages Cat to ignore Susan, but Cat says she did send a box of chocolates to her mother yesterday and asks how Susan would know that if she wasn’t psychic.

Chad asks EJ who else was at the house. EJ tells him that it was Chanel, who ripped in to him for costing her and Johnny the chance to adopt Tate and Sophia’s baby. Chad asks if he thinks Chanel shot him as payback. EJ notes that she was pretty irate, but now that it’s coming together, Chanel said her piece and left. Chad asks if there was anyone else. EJ remembers Kristen coming home. Chad confirms that the police did question her after finding a gun in her purse but the bullet didn’t match and they don’t have any other leads. Chad encourages EJ to give it some time and hopefully all his memories will come back. Chad promises they will get the son of a bitch that did this to him.

Chanel tells Paulina and Amy that Johnny doesn’t know what condition EJ is in, just that he’s awake. Chanel guarantees that this doesn’t change a thing as she and Johnny moved out of the DiMera Mansion are not going back. Amy says she believes her, but it raises the question of where they will live. Paulina assures that they can stay with her and Abe as long as they’d like. Amy argues that space would be tight after the baby is born and asks if they can afford their own place. Chanel assures they can as Johnny still has his inheritance and is looking for a job while her bakery is doing very well. Paulina adds that she’s always there to help, so her grandbaby will not want for anything. Chanel agrees that money won’t be an issue. Chanel adds that there is something she feels she should be honest about. Chanel reveals that she and Johnny aren’t as religious as they made themselves out to be, but they are God fearing people and they do intend to raise their child in the church. Chanel apologizes for deceiving her. Amy appreciates her coming clean now and as long as they share her faith and will bring the baby up believing in God, she will still let them adopt the baby.

Tate and Sophia try out the breathing exercises until Sophia feels the baby kick for the first time which excites them as she has Tate feel it. Sophia then gets a text from her mom, announcing that she agreed to the adoption.

Belle, Tate, and Sophia join Chanel, Paulina, and Amy with the adoption papers. Chanel thanks Belle for being so quick. Amy looks it over and says everything appears to be in order. Belle says all that’s left to do is sign. Chanel signs the papers. Tate briefly hesitates but then he and Sophia sign the papers.

Chad finds Cat at the hospital. Cat says she heard EJ woke up and she’s happy for him. Chad thanks Cat for her support the other night as it was a tough night for him. Cat asks how EJ is. Chad says he’s good but he doesn’t remember who shot him which makes him a little nervous because whoever did it is still out there, so hopefully they don’t come back to finish the job.

Susan returns to EJ’s room with his hot tea and asks if he’s feeling better. EJ says the brain fog is starting to lift. Susan asks about his talk with Belle. EJ says they were interrupted by Chad, who said the police don’t have any leads. Susan tells EJ to forget the police as she thinks she knows who shot him.

Gabi remains in the town square and thinks back to being outside the DiMera Mansion on the night that EJ was shot. Gabi tells herself that there’s no way that Susan could possibly know what she did that night…

Johnny goes home where Chanel excitedly hugs him and exclaims that she has the best news that Amy changed her mind and they can adopt Sophia’s baby. Chanel adds that Belle already drew up the papers and everyone has signed it but him. Chanel declares that this is really happening and Johnny’s going to be a daddy as she hugs him.

Philip goes to see Belle and says he needs to talk to her about when she represented him in court against Xander. Belle notes that was months ago. Philip informs her that there is some information he didn’t tell her that is newly relevant. Belle asks what it is. Philip hopes it’s off the record, but the case she made on his behalf was based on fabricated evidence so he had no legit claim on Titan. Belle questions if he’s saying they both committed fraud.

Alex finishes a call with Justin as Stephanie comes over. Alex informs Stephanie that Justin and Bonnie have tickets to the national tour of The Notebook tonight, but Justin is stuck at work, so he asked if they want to go. Stephanie excitedly says she’d love to see the musical, but worries that Alex would hate it. Alex says it has to be good if she likes it. Alex says he just has to swing by the house to grab the tickets. Stephanie declares it will be the best night ever.

Sarah tells Xander that she’s so sorry. Xander responds that she’s not the one who lied to him. Sarah tells Xander that she loves him so much and she’s so grateful that they have weathered everything life has thrown at them. Sarah says no matter the obstacle, they could get through it. Xander assures they will get through this as well. Sarah says that’s not what she was going to say.

Roman goes to see Kayla in her office at the hospital. Roman asks if everything is okay as she seems a little stressed. Kayla admits she is stressed out over the hospital fundraiser but she doesn’t want to bore him and asks what brings him by. Roman hoped to get an update on EJ

EJ remains in a coma and has dreams about the night he was shot. EJ’s mother Susan Banks appears and tells him not to worry as she’s right here.

Kate sits at the Brady Pub, reading the article on the possible murder weapon being recovered. Rex arrives and joins her, mentioning that he was just with Bonnie, showing her pictures of his daughter Emily. Kate asks if he’s going to show Emily’s other Grandmother. Rex says he intended to yesterday but Kate notes that he was too distracted stirring up trouble with Roman and telling him that she might have been the one who shot EJ.

Kayla questions Roman wanting to know about EJ. Roman says he heard he was in a coma, so he was just wondering if there was any change. Kayla is surprised since EJ is not his favorite person but he drove all the way across town to find out about his condition. Roman thinks back to putting his gun back. Roman then tells Kayla that EJ is the father of two of his grandchildren, so he is interested in how he’s doing. Roman says Sydney is upset being so far away and Johnny has been suffering to the point of not knowing if he’d rather have good news or bad news. Kayla guesses she can understand but reminds Roman that she can’t tell him about EJ’s condition. Kayla notes that a medically induced coma is to hopefully give the brain time to heal. Roman asks if that’s what they were hoping for with how many people hate EJ. Kayla brings up Roman hating EJ and says she gets it but she is his doctor and she cares about her patients. Kayla adds that he’d be surprised to find out that there are people who care about EJ. Roman jokes that he could count them on two fingers. Kayla informs him that one of them is sitting at his bedside as they speak.

Susan can’t believe someone tried to kill her son again and that whoever it is, is still out there. Susan declares that she and EJ will catch them together. Susan guesses EJ saw who did this to him, so she needs him to send her a psychic connection as she asks EJ to tell her who did this to him.

Belle questions Philip letting her stand in front of a judge, knowing his whole case was bogus. Philip tells her that he’s so sorry and it was very wrong, but his lawyer quit on him at the last minute so he only had a few hours. Belle says she could strangle him and asks why he’s telling her this now. Belle then guesses that Xander found out. Philip confirms that Vivian told him everything because she wanted a bigger cut, so she decided to show him who’s boss by blowing the whole thing up sky high. Belle thinks that would send Vivian back to prison. Philip explains that she didn’t think Xander would care about her role and focus all of his vengeance on him. Philip assures Belle that he told Xander she knew nothing about it. Philip can’t believe he let Vivian talk him in to doing this in the first place. Belle can’t believe he thought he could get away with it. Belle asks how Xander reacted. Philip assures he was furious. Belle asks if it was just he and Vivian sitting on this secret. Philip admits a few other people knew and are terrified of how Xander will react if he finds out they knew.

Alex and Stephanie go to the Kiriakis Mansion to pick up the theater tickets but Xander questions what they want. Alex asks him what’s wrong, so Xander reveals he just found out that Philip had been stabbing him in the back. Alex and Stephanie pretend to be shocked as Xander explains that the letter from Victor was forged and Philip has been playing him for a fool. Xander thought they had a real bond and genuine partnership, but it was all based on a lie. Xander declares that trusting Philip was the worst mistake of his life. Xander then guesses that they already knew all of that.

Rex apologizes to Kate as he was looking for a pen and found a gun in the drawer. Kate explains that she carries the gun for protection. Rex says he was just worried. Kate says she will try not to take offense to him immediately jumping to thinking the worst of her. Rex explains that he knows she would do anything for the kids and EJ threatened them. Rex assures that he also thought Roman might have a motive, so he suspected both of his parents equally.

Roman tells Kayla that Susan Banks is at least one person in Salem, praying for EJ’s recovery. Kayla suggests maybe Susan can use her gift to solve the case. Roman questions really thinking Susan has psychic powers. Kayla says she’s not ruling anything out, but odds are that EJ saw the person who shot him, so he can tell the police when he wakes up. Kayla says she’s going to check on EJ and if she has any updates, she will tell Johnny.

Susan asks if EJ is trying to tell her something. Susan then begins questioning who is there until Kayla comes in and interrupts. Susan tells Kayla to stand back because she’s in the presence of evil which Kayla questions. Susan tells Kayla that the shooter was here and EJ was trying to reveal who did this to him through their psychic connection but Kayla severed it. Susan asks Kayla how EJ is since he was restless when she came in. Kayla assures that he’s on heavy doses of medication and they are keeping him comfortable. Kayla adds that there’s been no recent seizure activity. Susan says he was flinching a bit when she came in but she calmed him down. Kayla says that sounds like he’s fighting the sedation, so maybe it’s time to take him out of the coma.

Kate questions Rex thinking Roman might have shot EJ. Rex says he didn’t say that and just that he’s upset about what Johnny went through. Rex adds that it occurred to him that Kate’s not the only with a gun. Kate argues that almost everyone in town has a motive to want to kill EJ. Kate tells Rex to stick to medicine and let the detectives do the detective work. Kate asks Rex to let this drop as Roman approaches and questions drop what?

Belle asks Philip who else he got to lie for her. Philip feels it’s better if she doesn’t know and he just prays that Xander never finds out. Philip repeats that he’s so sorry for putting Belle in the middle of this and says he’ll make sure this is all on him and that anyone knows she was completely innocent. Philip asks if Belle hates him. Belle responds that she’s not happy about any of this but she’d be a giant hypocrite if she hated him for doing something underhanded. Philip asks why that is. Belle admits she’s overlooked some other things that someone else did which were way worse.

Sarah asks Xander to calm down. Xander recalls hearing Stephanie and Philip talking about keeping a secret from Alex and realizes them having an affair was just the cover story. Xander questions Stephanie knowing all along. Stephanie clarifies that she found out a few weeks ago by accident and that she ended things with Philip over it. Xander questions why she didn’t tell him if she was angry enough with Philip to break up with him. Stephanie looks at Sarah and thinks back to Sarah convincing her not to tell Xander. Stephanie then tells Xander that she knew how much pain it would cause if she came forward, so she didn’t want to be responsible for that. Xander says she was being a coward and then asks if Alex knew. Alex assures that he believed when he told him that Philip and Stephanie were sleeping together, but when he confronted Stephanie is when she told him the truth. Xander questions why Alex didn’t tell him then after everything that happened with Theresa. Alex insists that he wanted to and agonized over it, but he and Philip were getting along so well and the stakes for their family had never been higher with the DiMera takeover, so he and Stephanie agreed that it’d be best for everyone if they let him believe Stephanie and Philip were having a fling. Xander argues that he’s lying.

Belle tells Philip about her and EJ hooking up again. Belle thought she got him out of her system but she hasn’t and she kind of hates herself for it. Belle talks about Brady trying to persuade her that it doesn’t make her a bad person, but she doesn’t know how to explain her feelings. Belle adds that Sami was just there going off on her about EJ, so she got defensive and argued that EJ came to her. Philip feels that if anyone should understand caring about EJ, it’s Sami. Belle calls it weird enough that she got involved with her sister’s ex-husband. Belle asks why she can’t turn it off since EJ has hurt so many people she cares about and the whole town pretty much hates his guts. Philip states that you can’t control how you feel. Philip tells Belle that for what it’s worth, he’s there for her. Belle thanks him and says she appreciates that. Philip doesn’t suppose there can be any legal repercussions for the fraud that Vivian pulled off on his behalf. Belle assures that there could be. Philip worries that he could be in big trouble. Belle adds that she can’t help him as the district attorney but suggests he reach out to Justin soon.

Stephanie tells Xander that she knows this is a lot to take in, but she and Alex are telling him the truth. Xander says he doesn’t understand because Sarah told him that Stephanie confided in her about the affair before this all came out. Xander questions if Stephanie was lying to Sarah then or lying to him now. Alex tells Xander to leave her alone and argues that they were both trying to do the right thing. Xander questions believing Alex’s story and says that Stephanie decided to be honest with Alex but decided to keep him in the dark. Xander declares that he’s a Kiriakis just like Alex, but he’s still looking down at him. Xander argues that he’s the CEO of Titan and deserves respect. Alex agrees and says he has every right to feel how he does, but he needs him to see that there is one person responsible for all the lies and that’s Philip.

Kate tells Roman that she and Rex were just revisiting the suspicion Rex had about her being a gun wielding vigilante. Kate reminds Rex that he needs to get to the airport or he will miss his flight. Roman goes to get Rex’s bag. Rex questions Kate having to jump in. Kate explains that she doesn’t think Roman should know that Rex ever had a thought about him being a killer because that would upset him greatly. Rex agrees not to say anything. Kate calls it a ludicrous thought and says Roman is the most by the book person she’s ever known, so there is no way she would ever believe that Roman would shoot EJ.

Susan encourages EJ that it’s time to wake up and tries to do it herself but Kayla says it’s not that simple. Susan compares it to Marlena bringing someone out of hypnosis. Kayla explains that this is very different and could take some time, but if he has another seizure, they will have to change course. Susan worries that she doesn’t sound sure of herself. Kayla says there are pros and cons along with health risks with a coma. Kayla tells Susan that as next of kin, she needs to make the decision. Susan gathers her thoughts and decides the answer is yes, so she tells Kayla to bring EJ back to her.

Philip goes to the Brady Pub where Kate tells him that he just missed Rex as Roman took him to the airport. Philip responds that it’s been a crazy day. Kate says there will be lots of crazy days at the office with Titan taking over DiMera. Philip is not so sure about that and informs Kate that he may not have a future at Titan. Kate thinks he’s just overwhelmed. Philip says he almost pulled it off but then Vivian told Xander everything, so the truth is out and his brother knows he’s a total fraud with no real claim to his father’s company or fortune. Philip confirms that Xander went ballistic and threw him out of the house, adding that he doesn’t blame him. Kate feels they need to do damage control and fix this. Philip calls that impossible as this is messed up beyond repair and he’s so screwed.

Xander agrees that Philip is to blame. Alex agrees that they should’ve told him the truth right away. Stephanie says they are sincerely sorry and repeats they were trying to do the right thing. Xander argues that he thought he was doing a good thing by hiring Alex back at Titan, but questions how he’s supposed to work with someone he can’t trust. Sarah pleads with Xander not to punish Alex for this. Xander then gets a call for his budget debriefing with Wei Shin and complains that now he has to find a way to explain this insane situation to him as he storms out of the room. Sarah frantically thanks Alex and Stephanie, admitting that she didn’t expect them to cover for her and says she was just planning on telling Xander the truth when they walked in. Sarah repeats that she’s so sorry and doesn’t want to cause more problems for them. Stephanie says it sounds like Xander is going to fire Alex. Sarah says she won’t let him. Alex argues that Xander is going to do whatever he’s going to do. Sarah says if it comes to that, she will come clean. Stephanie and Alex tell her they don’t want to blow up her marriage or make Xander any more furious. Alex worries that if Sarah comes clean, Xander might take it out on her. Sarah assures he would never do that. Alex advises Sarah to be careful because he doesn’t think Xander could handle another betrayal right now.

Kayla informs Susan that EJ is off the drugs keeping him in the coma, so he will be closely monitored and she will be back to check on him, but if there’s any complications, she will put him back in the coma. Belle arrives and says she didn’t know Susan was in town. Susan tells Belle that EJ will be waking up any minute. Kayla says they hope so anyway and that Susan gave her permission to take EJ out of the coma. Kayla adds that there are no guarantees but they are hoping and now they just wait.

Kate tells Philip that she’s so sorry. Philip says he never should’ve let Vivian go along with her stupid plan. Kate can’t believe Vivian turned down her cut of the money. Philip says apparently wasn’t worth putting him in his place. Philip was so sure that he neutralized Vivian’s threats but he can’t believe he thought she would be patient. Philip complains that he was an idiot for thinking everything would be okay. Philip feels that he once again roped Kate in to his disaster. Kate argues that she believed he should have a share of Victor’s empire and still does. Philip says he just spoke to Belle, who advised him to reach out to hire Justin right away. Kate asks if Xander is going after him in court. Philip is sure that he will do everything in his power to punish him. Kate says her too but Philip assures that Vivian didn’t mention her involvement and points out that Kate didn’t know until after the fact. Kate feels that won’t make any difference to Xander. Philip responds that he won’t hear it from him.

Xander returns to the living room and tells Sarah that Wei Shin has serious concerns about the DiMeras trying to nullify the takeover if they find out about Philip, so that means he might be joined at the hip to the person who betrayed him in the worst possible way and there’s nothing he can do about it.

Alex and Stephanie return home. Alex says so much for the best night ever. Stephanie is sorry Justin’s theater tickets went to waste. Alex says he’s sorry she didn’t get to see the show but Stephanie says that’s the last thing she’s worried about now. Alex still can’t believe that Vivian told Xander the truth. Stephanie repeats that she’s sorry for dragging Alex in to this while Alex feels sorry for Sarah dragging her in to this. Stephanie feels this stupid lie is taking over her life. Alex suggests they talk about something else or maybe not talk at all as they kiss.

Belle asks if EJ can hear her. Susan encourages Belle to keep talking to EJ and calls her his paramour which Belle questions. Susan says she could tell as soon as she walked in the room and that it doesn’t take a psychic to see that Belle cares about EJ. Susan tells Belle it’s in her heart. Belle guesses she has fought it for a long time but admits she loves EJ. Susan says it’s good that she’s here then and urges Belle to hold EJ’s hand, so she does. Susan then tells Belle to tell EJ that she loves him, which she does. EJ’s monitors then increase so Susan checks on him and EJ then wakes up, thrilling Susan and Belle.
