Vernon got off the phone with Victor Newman (from Y&R ) and told Anita that he would do the keynote speech at Martin’s fundraiser. They talked about Victor taking a chance on him during his first campaign. Martin went over the plans for his fundraiser with his assistant, Shonda. They talked about Kyle Abbott and Devon Winters (from Y&R) attending the fundraiser. Martin said that Smitty warned him not to seat Victor next to Jack Abbott (from Y&R). Smitty couldn’t help him because his story about the plasma ring turned into a five-part series. Later Martin went to see his grandparents. They talked about the fundraiser. Martin appreciated Victor helping with the fundraiser. They also talked about his opponent dragging out what happened to him on the country road three years ago. Grayson went to see Ashley to repair their relationship. She was upset with him, but she gave him five minutes to talk. Naomi arrived at Ashley’s place so Grayson left. She thought Ashley gave Grayson a hard time about getting back together because she didn’t give Derek another chance. She advised Ashley not to punish herself.

Jacob talked to Smitty about uncovering The Impaler’s identity. He thought Smitty could reveal his identity by exposing him in his articles. Smitty thought they should get the public to help them. Vanessa was at the casino and overheard Joey and Randy talking about meeting the Impaler. She couldn’t believe that Joey didn’t tell her about the Impaler. Vanessa wanted to go to the meeting. Joey was afraid for her safety so he wanted her to go to the condo. With hesitation, Vanessa allowed Randy to take her to the condo. She wanted Randy to go back to the casino to watch out for Joey. When Randy returned to the casino there was a knock on the door. Joey was shocked to find out who was at the door.

The episode is based on Hayley’s plan to steal Bill from Dani. Hayley talked to Randy about their plan working and that she would be rid of Bill soon. Naomi and Chelsea talked about their parents’ marriage while they were eating dinner. Bill thought about Dani and how he didn’t notice the way Mike was acting around her. Andre arrived home from his trip. He comforted Dani while she beat herself up about the past. During the flashback scenes, Hayley arrived in town. Hayley’s original target was Joey. Randy knew that Joey wouldn’t fall for it so he thought she should go after Bill. He thought he was the perfect target. Randy thought Hayley should use Naomi to work her way into his life. There was a flashback of Hayley meeting Naomi for the first time. Dani confided in Andre and told him that she wanted to ask Bill to forget his marriage to Hayley and come back to her. She thought that she needed more pain in her life. Dani was the one who introduced Bill and Hayley by having him pick her as his assistant. Hayley flirted with Bill by letting him see her wardrobe. He liked what he saw. They became close after that moment. Bill and Hayley gave in and had their first kiss at the office. In the present, Hayley told Randy that the hardest part was pretending to be guilty.

Chelsea and Dani walked in on Bill and Hayley in a compromising position. Dani yelled at Hayley. She got the shock of her life when Bill told her that he was in love with Hayley. Chelsea thought she saw her mother’s soul leave her body that night. Naomi shifted gears and talked about Jacob. She was glad that Jacob was home safe again. Naomi would never take her for granted. Bill kept thinking about Dani begging him to leave Hayley and go back to her. His thoughts were interrupted when Hayley brought him food to eat. They were about to leave the office, and Bill wasn’t being as affectionate as he usually is with Hayley. Hayley wasn’t happy about that and gave him a cold look. She was ready to kill him immediately. Dani and Andre snuggled in the bedroom. She forgave herself for her moments of weakness. Dani said that Hayley’s betrayal was rough because she thought of her as family.

Jacob was going to be acknowledged for his role in bringing down some of the plasma ring. He didn’t feel worthy of celebrating. Elon and Marcel talked to him about how important his job was and that losing people was part of it. Naomi confided in Dani and told her that she didn’t think she could handle Jacob doing more undercover assignments. She didn’t sign up for it. Naomi wanted a man who had a desk job without the risks. Darlene wanted to throw a party for Jacob. She let Izaiah know that Eva wasn’t welcomed at the party. He said that he wouldn’t be at the party either. Darlene thought Eva wasn’t going to be a permanent fixture in his life. Izaiah warned her that if he had to choose between her and Eva, she would lose. After their conversation, Darlene apologized to Eva for the way she treated her. During the ceremony, Jacob thought about what happened at the warehouse. After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed Darlene’s cake. Leslie arrived. Leslie and Darlene got into an argument. Jacob slipped out of the party and went to Uptown. He ran into Kat. Jacob wondered how many drinks he would need to drown out the sound of the gunshots that killed his best friend.

While Bill and Hayley waited for their table at the club, he tried to give her a loving squeeze. Hayley freaked out by his touch. His hand was near the area she kept the vial. Hayley claimed she didn’t want the staff to see him copping a feel. He felt guilty because of his conversation with Dani. Dani reached out to Bill to find out why he didn’t go to the ceremony to support Naomi and Jacob. Hayley admitted to Bill that she intercepted the message and declined to go on their behalf. Bill wasn’t happy about what she did. He asked her not to do anything like that on his behalf again. Bill walked away from her. While Bill was gone, Hayley slipped more poison in his coffee cup.

Naomi went to see Smitty. She thanked him for being there for her and Jacob. Naomi said she didn’t like being kept in the dark, but she understood why. She said you had to keep secrets to protect yourself and the ones you love. Eva admitted that she was struggling with Derek’s death. Ted wanted her to focus on the clinic for a week while she dealt with her grief. He told Eva about Bill being there for him when he lost his brother. Later on, Shanice and Eva bonded with each other over Derek’s death. They told stories about Derek. Nicole told Anita and Vernon that she was upset that Ted volunteered her name as the Chief of Staff. She said that was an indicator that he didn’t know her. They all agreed that Monica would be a good fit for the position. When Vernon left to call Monica, Anita talked to Nicole about Ted. Nicole told Anita that she was fantasizing about Ted. Ted talked to Martin about Nicole and how she has been acting towards him. Martin told him that Nicole has been busy with other guys. Anita suspected that Nicole had feelings for Ted. She asked Nicole who she was taking to the fundraiser. Monica wasn’t sure if she wanted to be Chief of Staff, but Shanice and Vernon convinced her to take the position.

Nicole talked to Vanessa about processing her grief for Doug in her own way. While they were talking, they talked about Nicole fantasizing about Ted. They also talked about Ted suggesting that she become chief of staff. Shanice was shocked that Ted sent Nicole to talk to her about Derek’s death. She wanted him to talk to her directly instead of sending Nicole to talk to her. Shanice opened up to him. Ted was understanding of her concerns. Nicole showed up. She talked to Shanice and cleared things up. Nicole went to see Ted. She said they needed to have a conversation. When she was about to tell him about her fantasies, Shanice showed up. Nicole left but was uncomfortable seeing Ted and Shanice together. Joey and Randy waited to meet the Impaler. He told Randy that he didn’t want the plasma ring operating in his territory. Randy told Joey that he noticed a change in Joey and wondered if it was because of Vanessa. Joey said the meeting had to be at the casino but no weapons were allowed. Vanessa went to see Joey at the casino and asked him what they were going to do about Jacob’s accusations that he was involved in the plasma ring. Joey thought Jacob should focus on something else. Izaiah showed up to see Joey. He asked if Joey had anything to do with Jacob almost getting killed. Joey said he would never hurt anyone in Izaiah’s family. Andre and Dani talked about her developing cancer. There was a possibility that she wouldn’t get cancer, but he didn’t think he would lose his parents. Andre said that was why he cut himself off from people. He said he the more he loved Dani the more he feared losing her.

Hayley was having a drink when Leslie showed up at her table. She wasn’t interested in what Leslie had to say. Leslie refused to take no for an answer. She told her that she knew she was a con artist. Leslie warned Hayley that she hadn’t been caught yet. She said that she would be there when she reached her downfall. Bill walked into the club and saw Leslie and Hayley together. He told her to leave the table. After Leslie left, Bill talked to Hayley about his tremors. He thought that he should see Madison again. Hayley pretended to agree with him. She thought he might have been stressing over everything that happened recently. Hayley managed to talk him out of seeing a doctor.

Anita and Vernon were finally ready to make love again, but they were interrupted by Kat and Martin. Kat and Martin met up and talked about seeing their grandparents. Martin talked to Kat about his kids getting older. He told her that Tyrell was having sex. Anita and Vernon went to a hotel. They put up a sign so they wouldn’t be disturbed and had a wonderful time together. Naomi and Jacob were reunited. She couldn’t stop thinking about the danger Jacob was in. Jacob kept seeing Derek take a bullet for him. He blamed himself for what happened to Derek. Naomi tried her best to convince him that it wasn’t his fault. Martin and Vanessa ran into each other. They talked about how important it was to tell your loved one how you feel about them since tomorrow isn’t promised. After talking to Martin, Vanessa went to see Joey. She told him that Jacob thought he was the Impaler. Vanessa admitted that she’s still grieving since she cleaned out Doug’s locker at the club. She was determined to clean his things out of the attic. Later Joey got a call from Randy. The Impaler wanted to meet with them.

Everyone gathered for Derek’s memorial. Jacob informed Vanessa that he planned to bring down everyone involved in the plasma ring even if Joey’s part of it. Grayson texted Ashley to let her know that he would stay away even though she was on his mind. Vanessa announced that she planned to start a college fund in Derek’s name. Naomi thought that Derek saved Jacob’s life. She wouldn’t have her husband if Derek hadn’t saved his life. Jacob had a lot of thoughts about Derek during the service. Dani called Bill out for turning a blind eye to the things that Mike did while he worked for him. They talked about Pamela and how she was there for Dani more than Bill was. Bill said that Mike wasn’t that bad. She felt like he allowed Mike to prey on young women. Dani informed him that Mike hit on Naomi too. She felt that was the reason Naomi didn’t want to work for him. Later Bill met with Ted, and they talked about regretting their past mistakes. They wished they were still part of the Dupree family.

Chelsea asked Madison how she planned to handle her family when it came to the wedding. Madison suggested they invite her mother. Dani showed up and wanted to talk about the designers she convinced to design their dresses. Chelsea let her know they planned to go with something more modern. Madison wanted to get something off the rack. Ted surprised Nicole by telling her that he recommended her as the next chief of staff to the board of directors. She questioned his sanity. Ted reminded her about the wild things she’s been doing lately. Kial walked in the room while they were talking. After Ted left, Nicole told him about Ted’s offer. Kial felt like Ted suggested her so he could spend more time with her. After they discussed everything, Kial felt like she would be perfect for the job.

Leslie was upset that Lia made a mess of things for her at the clinic. Eva agreed to help her until she could find a replacement. Kat grilled Ted about making eyes at Nicole at the cotillion. She also heard about his drama with Leslie and Shanice. Eva arrived so Kat changed the subject to talk to her about Samantha and the cotillion. After Kat left, Eva talked to Ted about doing double duty and working with her mother. She assured him that she would be able to do both jobs. Kial went to visit Nicole. She asked him if he ever fantasized about his dead wife while they were together. Kial assured her that he didn’t think about her while they were together. Nicole admitted that she fantasized about Ted but not while she was with him. It didn’t bother him, but he wanted to keep things open. Nicole didn’t want to make love because she was busy with work. Kial wanted to stay with her anyway. Donnell pressed Joey about his involvement with his mother and the role he played in his father’s death. Joey insisted that he was innocent. Donnell couldn’t believe that he didn’t stop Doug from drinking. Joey said that he runs a business. Doug’s death didn’t keep him up at night. Donnell appreciated his honesty.

Deanna ran into Doug’s arms. He let her know that he was there to help her break Joey’s spell on Vanessa. Doug told her that Joey was the reason why he was dead. He came to Deanna because she was the only one who saw through the lies. Doug wasn’t worried about settling a score. His goal was to keep his family safe. A waiter showed up so Deanna tried to protect her father, but he was gone. Later Deanna met with Donnell. She didn’t tell him about seeing Doug. He told her about his conversation with Joey. Donnell decided to leave it alone and thought she should too. They weren’t going to see their father again. She mumbled that he wouldn’t see him. Donnell stormed off because he couldn’t get through to her. Deanna went back to the club where she saw her father. She wanted him to come back to her. He didn’t come back to her. Deanna started crying when he didn’t come back to her. Hayley complained to Randy about the drug not moving fast enough. Randy wanted her to stay the course. Hayley was ready to move to a beach. Leslie took her place in the booth. Joey didn’t answer her calls. She thought he blamed her for the plasma infiltrating the clinic. Randy didn’t want to help her.

Shanice told Ted that Derek’s death forced her to think about the future and who she should be with. She said despite what happened in his past, she doesn’t want to give him up. Leslie showed up while they were talking. Ted ripped into her and told her not to interrupt is time with Shanice unless it had to do with their daughter. Jan and Mona talked at Orphey Gene’s. While they were talking, Grayson showed up. Jan told Grayson not to give up on Ashley. Leslie showed up and overheard that Grayson had money problems. She offered him a job. Derek’s father Brian went to Ashley’s apartment. He said he was there to get Derek’s body so he could bury him back home. Brian gave Ashley Derek’s medal of honor and a ring box. Later on, Brian went to the police station. He refused to shake Jacob’s hand. Brian blamed Jacob for Derek’s death. When Jacob offered to help him get through the red tape to get Derek’s remains, Brian accepted it. Jacob told him that Derek would always be a hero to him. Brian walked away. Later on, Elon and Ted had a press conference at the hospital about the plasma ring and Lia’s involvement in it. A reporter asked about Derek’s death. Leslie pushed Elon out of the way to defend her clinic. After she said some words about Derek, she broke down in Ted’s arms.
