Days of Our Lives Update

EJ is having a drink in the living room of the DiMera Mansion and looks up to the portrait of Stefano. EJ declares that it’s official that everyone in town hates him, even Belle who tried to trap him. EJ adds that he could tell Belle was conflicted, unlike the rest of them, as he can almost feel the rest of the mob storming the castle for his head. EJ remarks that it wouldn’t surprise him if Rafe and Gabi were the ones leading the charge.

JJ goes to the Hernandez house and knocks on the door, asking if Gabi or Rafe are home but there is no answer and the house is empty.

EJ brings up that there are a lot of other people that despise him including Kristen, Jada, Paulina, and Chanel, who took him to task for her adoption loss. EJ adds that there’s also Johnny, who now thinks he is a monster thanks to Kate and Roman dropping that bombshell on him. EJ declares that he curses them for that as he’s sure they curse him.

Chanel goes home to Paulina’s where Paulina has fallen asleep on the couch with a book. Chanel wakes her up and asks if she’d seen Johnny. Paulina says she hasn’t seen him tonight and asks if something is wrong. Chanel responds that she doesn’t know, but she hopes not.

At the Brady Pub, Roman gets a call from Kate and says he has to take it, so Johnny says he’ll watch the bar. Roman steps away to answer Kate’s call, while Johnny heads behind the bar to steal Roman’s gun.

Kate walks through the park on the phone with Roman and informs him that their son Rex was in a hit and run accident tonight. Kate says Rex is fine and just shaken up, but she can’t help wonder if it was really an accident after EJ threatened to harm her children. Kate wonders if EJ could be part of it and thinks they need to find out. Kate declares that if EJ was behind this, he will regret it. Kate then hangs up and pulls a gun from her purse.

EJ brings up Ava having it in for him as well as she’s still fuming over what happened to her in Aremid. EJ calls it unfair to blame him when Kristen was far more culpable.

Ava goes to the DiMera Mansion and pulls her gun out of her purse.

Some time later…

EJ looks up to the portrait of Stefano and asks if Stefano has any advice to share on how to get back in his son’s good graces. EJ isn’t sure why he’s asking since it’s not like Stefano had any impressive people skills, but he is his father’s son and Stefano was always one step ahead, while so is he. EJ sits down and finishes his drink, then declares he wins. Someone then appears in the room. EJ looks at them and questions what they are doing..

JJ goes to the police station and calls Gabi, leaving a message that he stopped by her house earlier to see if she wanted to get a drink but it didn’t seem like anyone was home and her office said she had been gone for hours. JJ says he’s not sure what she’s up to tonight, but he’s catching up with work at the police station and tells her to give him a call right away as he’s wondering where she is.

EJ is shot in the chest and collapses.

Paulina questions why Chanel looks so worried and what could be wrong. Chanel says it may be nothing but Johnny said he was going to see Roman at the Pub and that was awhile ago. Chanel says she’s called and texted with no response. Paulina encourages that Roman and Johnny are probably just together and not paying attention to their phones. Chanel feels she should go to the Pub to make sure everything is okay.

Chad goes to the DiMera Mansion and calls out to EJ asking if he’s there. Chad walks in to the living room and finds EJ bleeding on the floor after having been shot. Chad rushes to his side and tells him it’s going to be okay.

At the hospital, Kayla asks Cat what she’s doing there at this hour. Cat says she’s just working on the hospital fundraiser while Marlena is out of town. Kayla acknowledges Cat’s hard work and thanks her. Cat hopes they are able to raise enough funds to keep the hospital going for awhile. Cat tells Kayla that she will forward the spreadsheets to her to look at whenever she can. Kayla mentions being halfway through a 36 hour shift and being on call. Kayla notes that the ER has been unnaturally calm, so she offers to look at Cat’s files now.

Chad calls for an ambulance for EJ, noting he’s been shot in the chest and there’s a lot of blood. Chad says EJ is still breathing but not responding and calls for help fast. Chad hangs up and encourages EJ that he’s going to be okay as help is on the way.

Kate enters the Brady Pub and thinks back to EJ threatening to hurt her children where she said she would kill him if he laid a finger on her children. Kate calls Roman and leaves a message that she needs to talk to him and to call her as soon as she gets the message. Ava comes downstairs with her bag packed, so Kate asks if she’s going somewhere. Ava responds that she is leaving Salem.

Kayla is impressed by the band that Cat got for the hospital fundraiser. Cat says she called in favors and says it’s no big deal. Kayla questions how on earth she got Chad to participate in the bachelor auction. Cat responds that he knows it’s for a good cause but admits it was a struggle. Kayla notes that Cat and Chad have been spending a lot of time together. Cat says they have been working on the fundraiser and she’s so relieved that they are on good terms because it’s a miracle that he’s even speaking to her after what she put him through. Kayla asks if she’s aware that Chad was seeing her daughter Stephanie. Cat confirms that she remembers that. Kayla says it seemed that they really had something, but in the end, Chad wasn’t ready to move on as it was too soon. Cat understands what she’s saying and says she’s only involved in the fundraiser to help the hospital. Cat adds that after all the hospital did for her sister, it’s the least she could do. Cat tells Kayla about her sister having an open heart surgery when she was a kid which inspired Mark to go to med school, so she wants to honor what the hospital has meant to her brother and sister. Kayla then gets paged to the ER about a gunshot wound coming in. Kayla tells Cat that she’s glad they had this little talk as she walks away. Chad then arrives, wiping blood from his hands. Cat rushes up and asks what happened. Chad informs her that his brother was shot.

At the police station, one of the cops informs JJ that EJ was shot at the DiMera Mansion, leaving JJ shocked.

Paulina tells Chanel that she understands with what Johnny has been through lately. Chanel worries that Johnny was in such a bad place even before the adoption fell through as finding out how he was conceived changed how he looked at his father and everyone who kept the secret from him, including himself since he realizes that he wouldn’t be here if not for what his father did. Chanel talks about not knowing what to do. Paulina encourages her to just be there like she is for her and notes that Chanel’s been going through it too. Chanel says she’s been so worried about Johnny that she hasn’t even taken the time to mourn their loss. Chanel talks about feeling so bad when Amy said the adoption fell through because of EJ and the first thing Johnny said was that he was sorry like it was his fault. Paulina argues that Johnny couldn’t help who his father is and what he does. Paulina declares that the only person to blame is EJ. Chanel says she said the same thing, revealing that she talked to EJ because she wanted him to know exactly how much Johnny was suffering because of him. Chanel brings up that EJ told her Paulina gave him Hell too. Chanel adds that Johnny said EJ was dead to him. Chanel feels so guilty for thinking that if EJ were out of their lives, they would all be so much better off. Paulina responds that she felt the same way about Lani’s father, Ray, and didn’t want him to make her life miserable. Paulina tells Chanel to just be there and she’ll handle the rest. Paulina promises not to let EJ ruin the adoption for her. Chanel thanks her but at this point, she doesn’t think anything will change Amy’s mind if there’s any chance that EJ will have any influence over the baby’s life. Paulina thinks back to confronting EJ about the adoption falling through where she told him that no one gets away with messing with her baby. Paulina then tells Chanel that there’s something she should know.

Kate questions Ava leaving Salem. Ava informs her that she’s moving to Hong Kong to be with Tripp and Wendy. Kate asks about Brady. Ava says that’s over as she ended it, so there’s nothing really left for her here. Ava calls it kind of ironic since Kristen’s mother wanted everyone to believe she was in Hong Kong while holding her captive and now she’s off to Hong Kong. Kate thought she recanted that story. Ava says she did to the police because she had no other choice even though Kristen and her mother are getting away with what they did to her. Kate adds that EJ is as well. Ava thinks back to her last confrontation with EJ where she warned him that she could get justice in other ways. Ava remarks to Kate that she must not forget EJ.

Cat asks Chad if they said anything about EJ’s condition. Chad responds that he was barely hanging on. Cat tells Chad that she’s sorry. Chad says it’s no secret that he and EJ didn’t really get along, but he’s his family and he doesn’t have a lot of that left. Chad recalls EJ being there for him on the night that Abigail died. Cat points out that now Chad is there for him. Chad brings up that EJ was furious with him today which isn’t new, but you always think you will have time to tell people what they really mean to you. Chad supposes he should know better by now. JJ arrives and tells Chad that he just heard about EJ and he’s sorry. Chad asks if they have anything yet. JJ says the forensics team is at the mansion but he understands Chad is the one who found him. JJ knows it’s a difficult time but says he’s going to need Chad’s statement. Chad responds that he doesn’t really know anything and if he wants a list of EJ’s enemies, they’ll be there all night.

Roman returns to the Brady Pub and tells Kate that he got her messages and needs to talk to her too. Roman then sees Ava with her bags packed and questions what’s going on. Kate informs him that Ava is leaving town. Ava confirms she’s moving to Hong Kong to be with Tripp and Wendy. Roman calls that sudden. Ava says not for her as she’s been considering it for awhile since she misses her son. Roman says he can understand that. Ava acknowledges that Roman has been so good to her and she’s grateful to him. Roman admits he’s sorry to see her go. Ava says maybe she’ll be back someday. Ava returns her key to Roman. Roman comments that she really is ready to go. Ava responds that she can’t shake the dust from this town from her feet fast enough.

Chanel asks Paulina what it is. Paulina starts to explain but Johnny comes in. Chanel runs up to him and hugs him, saying she was so worried. Johnny asks why since he told her that he was going to talk to Roman. Chanel brings up that she left him messages. Johnny says he turned his notifications off. Chanel questions if he was just talking to Roman this whole time. Johnny admits that he actually left the Pub awhile ago. Chanel then asks where he went.

Roman wishes Ava well. Ava wishes the same for he and Kate, noting they are very lucky to have each other. Ava tells Roman that he’s done so much for her. Roman admits they got off to a rough start, but he’s glad he could help. Roman tells her to give their best to Tripp and Wendy. Roman advises Ava to stay out of trouble. Ava then takes her bags and exits the Pub as Roman closes the Pub. Kate calls that unexpected. Roman says that’s how it goes in Salem. Kate asks what Roman wanted to talk to her about before Ava interrupted. Roman says he was going to ask her the same thing, but ladies first. Kate responds that it’s about EJ.

Chad tells JJ that he called the ambulance and then they rode to the hospital. Chad says EJ was out of it most of the way. JJ asks if Chad saw or heard anyone or anything when he arrived on the scene. Chad says there was nothing. JJ asks why Chad was stopping by so late. Chad informs JJ of the article in the Spectator about his family which is especially unflattering for EJ. Chad explains that EJ assumed he was behind it and left him a pissed off voicemail, so he came to explain that as the editor, he has to be impartial and that’s his job even if it makes his family look bad. Chad says he never got the chance to talk to EJ and brings up the last time he walked in to the house and saw that much blood was the night they lost to Abigail. JJ tells Chad that he’s sorry and prays for a different outcome this time. JJ tells Chad to let him know if he thinks of anything else. JJ says he’s heading to the crime scene and will update him later if there’s anything he can share. JJ then exits. Cat comes over to Chad and says she knows he might not be ready but offers to call anyone he needs. Chad says he should be the one to call his family. Chad says he was hoping to wait until he had news to share but should probably call before they see it on the news. Chad remarks that half of them are probably going to rejoice.

Chanel asks Johnny if he heard her. Johnny apologizes and says he spaced out. Chanel asks him again where he went after leaving the Pub. Johnny thinks back to his confrontation with EJ where he told EJ that he was dead to him. Johnny then tells Chanel that he just went for a walk in the park to clear his head. Chanel asks if it helped but Johnny gets a call from Chad. Johnny answers and asks what’s going on. Chad says he didn’t know if Johnny heard the news about his father. Johnny asks what about him. Chad informs Johnny that he’s at the hospital now and reveals that EJ was shot and is in critical condition, so he just thought he would want to know.

JJ joins the police team at the DiMera Mansion. JJ brings how a lot of people live there to question including the servants. JJ asks if Jada is there yet but the cop says they haven’t been able to reach her. JJ says they’ll see what the evidence tells them happened here tonight as he walks past the statue that still holds the bugging device that Rafe planted.

Ava walks to the park and disposes of her gun in the trash can as she then quickly walks off.

Roman asks Kate what about EJ. Kate says they need to figure out if EJ specifically targeted Rex and caused the accident. Kate is thankful that Rex is okay but it could’ve been worse. Roman assures they will get to the bottom of this and promises to make sure her kids stay safe. Kate thanks him and doesn’t know what she would do without him. Roman says he’ll always be there for her and her kids. Kate responds that she’ll always be there for him as they hug. Roman knows Kate wanted to call Rex to check on him and suggests she go do that as he has a couple things to do and then he’ll be up in awhile to talk some more. Kate thanks Roman. Roman says to give Rex his love as Kate heads upstairs. Roman thinks back to telling Johnny about having a gun behind the bar. Roman then goes behind the bar to his locked box and places the gun back inside.

Johnny thanks Chad for calling and hangs up. Chanel asks what’s going on and what Chad said. Johnny informs her and Paulina that EJ was shot tonight and is in the hospital. Chanel says she’ll go with him, but Johnny questions why he would go to the hospital. Johnny doesn’t care what happens to EJ and remarks that he got what he deserves. Johnny then walks off to the bedroom.

Chad finishes a call with EJ’s daughter Sydney. Chad then sees Kayla come out of the ER and calls her over to ask how EJ is.

Chanel runs in to Johnny in the town square. Johnny says he wanted to come check on her as he didn’t think she would be going to work today. Chanel thought it would take her mind off Amy Choi pulling the plug on their adoption but it didn’t work. Johnny says he can’t stop thinking about it either. Chanel wishes that article was never posted so Amy would not have found out about all the terrible things EJ has done.

Ava sits in her room, reading the article on EJ in the Spectator and comments on how much trouble, heartache, and misery EJ has caused in town but says what goes around, comes around.

EJ has a drink at home in the living room of the DiMera Mansion as he thinks back to calling Belle out for wearing a wire.

Belle returns home and removes her wire in frustration. Brady comes in and tells her that he just got off the phone with Marlena. Brady says they don’t have a lot of information, but John may have been abducted. Brady guesses that if they went to all this trouble to take him, they need him alive so they will have to have faith. Belle remarks that’s getting a lot harder for her to do and says she’s not in the best place for this right now. Brady asks what happened and questions seeing the wire. Belle responds that she tried to get the goods on EJ but failed.

JJ finds Shawn in the park and tells him that the plan was a bust as EJ figured out that Belle was wearing a wire, so they got nothing on him. JJ notes Shawn is distracted and asks if he’s okay. Shawn responds that he just has a lot on his mind.

At the police station, Rafe tells Jada that he needs space. Jada feels they’ve had enough time apart and they can get through this together. Rafe says he can’t and that they need time to figure things out which he can’t do with her around. Rafe tells Jada that he’s going home, but she’s not going with him. Jada questions if he’s asking her to move out. Rafe thinks it’s best right now if they have some distance. Jada argues that they survived what EJ put them through so they can survive this. Rafe tells her there’s nothing else to say and storms out, leaving Jada in tears.

Rafe goes home where Gabi is sitting at the table with her laptop. Gabi thought he and Jada would be out late. Rafe responds that she’s not coming home. Gabi questions what’s wrong. Rafe then informs Gabi that Jada cheated on him.

Jada goes to Paulina’s. Paulina comments that she looks like hell and asks what’s going on. Jada says she needs to discuss something with her. Paulina asks if it couldn’t be over the phone or wait until tomorrow. Jada clarifies that it’s not business, but personal. Paulina offers to get some wine but Jada doesn’t want to take up too much of her time since it’s getting late. Paulina insists since it’s just them as Abe is out of town visiting Eli and Lani while Chanel and Johnny won’t be home anytime soon after the news they got. Jada asks what happened. Paulina informs her that EJ screwed them out of adopting their baby.

Chanel suggests to Johnny that they get out of town to clear their heads but Johnny says he owes Roman a visit since he’s been trying to get ahold of him since yesterday. Johnny tells Chanel that he will see her later tonight and he loves her as he walks away.

Ava remarks that it’s bad enough that Kristen and her mother got away with what they did to her, so she questions why EJ should get away when he hurts people for sport. Ava declares that the police won’t make him pay, but there are other ways for justice to be served as she grabs her gun.

Paulina tells Jada that the article about EJ was the last straw and then Amy Choi didn’t want her grandchild near anyone named DiMera. Jada remarks that EJ has a specialty for ruining people’s lives. Paulina asks what Jada wanted to talk to her about. Jada calls it a personal issue that she didn’t think would get in the way of the job, but it’s out there, so she may get asked about it as Mayor. Jada then reveals to Paulina that she slept with Shawn.

JJ questions what’s on Shawn’s mind that’s a bigger deal than bringing EJ down. JJ asks if it’s about he and Jada. Shawn responds that Jada is probably telling Rafe right now as they speak.

Rafe reveals to Gabi that Jada slept with Shawn. Gabi didn’t know they were even having problems. Rafe clarifies that it happened before they found him, after Arnold left Jada at the altar. Gabi can’t imagine how he must feel but feels the circumstances are a little different than cheating. Rafe questions why Jada didn’t tell him for weeks. Gabi says she can’t defend that but Jada wasn’t trying to hurt Rafe and was tricked by Arnold like they all were. Gabi argues that she was there and watched Arnold humiliate Jada in front of half the town. Rafe questions thinking he would do the things Arnold did. Gabi says they knew something was off, but Jada didn’t know someone was pretending to be him and she didn’t either. Gabi argues that Jada’s only known him for a couple of years while she’s known him her entire life. Gabi gets the situation is screwed up but questions how he can blame Jada for any of this. Gabi declares that the only person responsible for this mess is EJ.

Chanel goes to the DiMera Mansion and tells EJ that she doesn’t give a damn what he’s in the mood for after he sabotaged any chance she and Johnny had of adopting a baby. EJ says to get it over with and tells her to air her list of grievances, noting that Paulina just gave him an earful but maybe she missed something. Chanel tells EJ that she didn’t drive over just to tell him that she’s pissed at him but because she wants him to answer why he insists on ruining people’s lives, especially those that he claims to care the most about.

Brady admits to Belle that it was pretty brave of her. Belle calls it stupid since EJ figured out she was wearing a wire in two seconds. Belle talks about EJ being furious that she was lying to him and he said that she only wanted to send him to prison to remove the temptation. Brady talks about being on the other end of a DiMera tongue lashing and suggests not taking it too seriously. Belle responds that she wouldn’t, but she thinks EJ might be right.

Shawn tells JJ that Jada realized she can’t control this and that the truth is going to come out, so she wanted to be the one to tell Rafe. JJ suggests maybe she left Shawn’s name out. JJ encourages that Shawn didn’t do anything wrong and neither did Jada. Shawn doesn’t think Jada will lie to Rafe again, so he probably knows now that his friend slept with his fiancée.

Paulina points out to Jada that she would’ve slept with Shawn after she fired her and before she got her job back, so there’s no issue here and she’ll handle it if it goes to the press. Paulina adds that something tells her she wasn’t crying on the way over because of that. Jada informs her that she and Rafe really got in to it and he asked her not to come home because he blames her for not realizing sooner that Arnold wasn’t him. Paulina calls that ridiculous. Jada feels after everything with Bobby, she’s been off her game and agrees that she should’ve figured it out sooner, not only as detective but as a person who loves Rafe more than anyone. Paulina stops her and assures that she’s not to blame for what happened and they both know exactly who is to blame.

Gabi complains that this is all EJ’s fault. Rafe argues that it’s not that simple. Gabi argues that Jada only slept with Shawn because she thought Rafe dumped her on her wedding day and then EJ kidnapped him, so they know none of this would’ve happened if it wasn’t for him. Gabi shouts that EJ ruined Rafe’s life almost as much as he ruined her life and she could kill him for it…

Chanel argues that EJ knew that she and Johnny were trying to adopt a baby and all he had to do was keep his nose clean but he couldn’t help himself. EJ blames Chad posting the article. Chanel argues that it’s not about the article, but about his actions and choices. EJ responds that he wants to make it right and says he told Johnny that he would talk to Amy Choi for them. Chanel calls EJ a dangerous man and says Amy is terrified of him being anywhere near her grandchild. Chanel adds that she would be too. EJ supposes it’s for the best then that Johnny doesn’t want him involved and that he’s dead to him.

Johnny goes to the Brady Pub to see Roman and says he would’ve gotten back to him sooner, but the adoption fell through after Amy read the article about EJ and that was it. Roman tells Johnny that he is so sorry, especially with Johnny still dealing with learning about what EJ did to Sami. Roman says he always thought Johnny should know the truth when he’s old enough but that wasn’t his call and Kate wouldn’t have said anything if he hadn’t put his foot in his mouth. Johnny says he hates that it even happened, but he hates that Sami went on to marry EJ twice and he hates that everyone decided to keep it from him. Johnny declares that most of all, he hates his father. Roman says he knows the feeling but this is all fresh to him while he’s known it all his life. Johnny asks if he thinks one day won’t be as angry because he doesn’t think so. Roman hopes that in time, Johnny will understand Sami and why they honored her wishes but EJ is a whole other deal. Roman admits Johnny’s anger may never go away like his hasn’t. Roman then remarks that part of him wants to get his gun and shoot EJ.

Brady asks Belle if she wants truth or comfort right now. Brady says he knows what it’s like to have a DiMera that you just can’t shake. Belle says he already gave her this lecture and she knows how toxic their dynamic is. Brady says that a lot has changed since then. Brady talks about being an addict and says he was addicted to Kristen as every time he tried to push her away, he found himself going back to her, but he eventually kicked the habit. Brady says he’s grateful to Kristen for giving him Rachel, but he doesn’t have that spell over him anyway and he only thinks about the pain they caused each other. Brady says he was able to move on so he thinks Belle can too. Belle argues that’s easy for him to say because he found someone else that he loves but she doesn’t have an Ava in her life. Brady then informs her that he doesn’t either as he and Ava broke up.

Ava thinks back to her last confrontation with EJ. Ava looks back at the article as she holds her gun and declares that EJ is not getting away with it this time.

Johnny questions Roman having a gun behind the bar. Roman says that small business owners have to protect themselves. Johnny asks how long he’s had it. Roman says he always has and just made sure it was locked up so no one got hurt, but instead his big mouth hurt Johnny. Roman says when he first heard that EJ was working with Arnold again, it brought back everything. Johnny is glad that Roman and Kate told him the truth because he needed to know and now he knows what kind of monster his dad really is.

Chanel tells EJ that she didn’t know Johnny told him that he’s dead to him but it doesn’t shock her and asks how he expected Johnny to react after finding out that EJ raped his mother. EJ calls that a long time ago and says he’s spent decades trying to right that terrible wrong. Chanel argues that he spent decades trying to cover it up. EJ says he was protecting Johnny while Chanel says he was protecting himself. EJ points out that it was what Sami wanted. Chanel doesn’t know how Sami forgave him but that’s between them and adds that maybe Johnny could have too if EJ didn’t team up with the other man who assaulted his mother. Chanel says that showed a pattern and clear lack of remorse. Chanel tells EJ that he doesn’t deserve forgiveness, so Johnny will never give it to him.

Rafe tells Gabi that she can’t go around saying she’s going to kill people as that’s a crime. Gabi asks if he’s going to turn her in. Rafe reminds her that she just got freedom back so they shouldn’t risk or joke about it. Rafe remarks that they both know she’d never really try to kill EJ. Gabi asks if he’s sure about that. Gabi then thinks back to pulling a gun on EJ. Gabi tells Rafe that they’ve both been pushed to their limits by EJ and asks who knows what they are capable of.

Belle questions Brady about he and Ava breaking up. Brady says they have been on the rocks ever since he asked her to cover for Rachel, so yesterday they just called it. Brady decides he’s going to bed in case Marlena calls with more information. Brady suggests Belle turn in too since she’s had one hell of a day. Belle thinks she should check in with Jada first to make sure she knows about her disaster. They say goodnight to each other as Brady heads to his room.

Shawn asks JJ how he could’ve been so stupid. JJ encourages that it’s not his fault since they thought Rafe dumped Jada. Shawn says even if it was Rafe, he should be more pissed at him since Jada was his ex and he was a crappy friend. JJ gets that but blames the circumstances. JJ mentions going to see Gabi and offers to find out how much Rafe knows. Shawn thanks him. JJ asks what are partners for as he walks away.

Jada knows Paulina is trying to make her feel better but she can’t just absolve herself of all responsibility here. Paulina argues that EJ manipulates and muddies the waters so people don’t know what is what. Paulina states that every horrible thing in Salem for the past few weeks can be traced back to him. Paulina has faith that one day, EJ will have to face the consequences for everything that he’s done. Jada tells Paulina that she asked Belle to wear a wire to see if she could get EJ to admit to kidnapping Rafe. Paulina calls it underhanded but says she loves it. Jada then gets Belle’s text that EJ figured out what she was up to, so it was a bust. Jada questions if Paulina still has faith that EJ will pay for what he’s done. Paulina says not unless someone made EJ pay and declares that they’d be doing the world a favor by taking care of EJ once and for all.

EJ tells Chanel that she’s made her point that his son hates him. EJ doubts she gives a damn but says it’s very painful for him. Chanel agrees that she doesn’t give a damn and says she won’t interfere on his behalf. EJ asks her to tell Johnny that he loves him. Chanel says she will tell him, even though she’s sure it’s the last thing he wants to hear right now. Chanel then walks out of the mansion.

Roman repeats to Johnny that he’s so sorry that he has to go through this and asks if he’s talked to his mother. Johnny says he’s called her a few times, but he’s pretty sure she’s avoiding him. Roman talks about Sami not wanting Johnny to know to keep it from affecting his relationship with his father. Johnny asks how it couldn’t. Roman brings up how EJ came in, threatening Kate and her sons when he found out it was Kate who told Johnny what happened. Johnny says he’s sorry about that since EJ did it in his name and won’t stop. Johnny brings up EJ having the nerve to come to Paulina’s to ask for forgiveness. Johnny remarks that it took everything he had to not take the knife off the table and stab him with it. Ava comes downstairs, so Roman calls out to her that he fixed the water heater but Ava rushes on out of the Pub. Johnny questions what’s up with her. Roman responds that he has no idea, but he knows a woman on a mission when he sees one.

JJ goes to the Hernandez house and knocks on the door, asking if Gabi or Rafe are home but there is no answer and the house is empty.

Shawn remains in the park and texts Jada, asking if she’s okay.

Jada returns to the police station and gets Shawn’s text. Jada remarks to herself that she is far from okay.

Chanel goes home to Paulina’s where Paulina has fallen asleep on the couch with a book. Chanel wakes her up and asks if she’d seen Johnny. Paulina says she hasn’t seen him tonight and asks if something is wrong. Chanel responds that she doesn’t know, but she hopes not.

Roman gets a call from Kate and says he has to take it, so Johnny says he’ll watch the bar. Roman steps away to answer Kate’s call, while Johnny heads behind the bar to steal Roman’s gun.

Ava goes to the DiMera Mansion and pulls her gun out of her purse.

Some time later…EJ is having a drink in the living room and looks up to the portrait of Stefano. EJ asks if Stefano has any advice to share on how to get back in his son’s good graces. EJ isn’t sure why he’s asking since it’s not like Stefano had any impressive people skills, but he is his father’s son and Stefano was always one step ahead, while so is he. EJ sits down and finishes his drink, then declares he wins. Someone then appears in the room. EJ looks at them and questions what they are doing..

In the interrogation room, Jada tells Rafe that there is something she needs to talk to him about. Rafe responds that she knows she can tell him anything. Jada remarks that he might not feel that way after he hears this. Jada then reveals to Rafe that she slept with another man.

EJ tells Belle that this is a pleasant surprise and unexpected. EJ questions her impromptu visit. Belle thinks back to Jada’s plan and tells EJ that she missed him, so EJ invites her in.

Kristen goes to see Brady and says she came to see how he was holding up. Kristen asks if there’s any news about his father. Brady questions if she cares. Kristen argues that he knows she does.

In Estonia, Steve finds a door that the key card isn’t working on and then hears gunshots from inside. Steve breaks in to the room at the facility and shoots a man who has seemingly just shot John. Marlena then comes in behind Steve and is shocked by what she sees.

Andrew calls in for transportation as he has Orpheus in custody. Andrew then turns around and Orpheus has suddenly broke free and holds his gun on Andrew.

Marlena asks Steve if it’s John as Steve approaches the body.

EJ pours drinks for he and Belle. EJ questions what changed since last time they were together, she was very upset with him and accused him of trying to seduce her to drop the charges. Belle acknowledges that she made quite a scene but she’s been thinking about emotional and irrational she was. Belle thinks her behavior was more about the difficult and sad things going on in her life and she regrets not realizing that. Belle claims she wasn’t thinking clearly and jumped to conclusions. EJ says whatever she may think of him, he wasn’t lying about his feelings for her. EJ feels they make each other very happy and he would never hurt her. Belle says she knows, but it’s not that simple because he’s hurt so many people that she cares about. Belle adds that she could forgive all of those things because he was transparent with her about it, but she can’t forgive dishonesty. Belle says in order to move forward, she needs him to be straight with her and admit what he did to Jada and Rafe.

Rafe questions Jada saying she slept with another man. Jada tells him that she’s so sorry. Rafe doesn’t understand how this happened and asks if she means Arnold. Jada assures that Arnold never touched her, so Rafe repeats that he doesn’t understand. Jada explains that it was when he was gone since she thought Rafe had left her at the altar and was told that he slept with a stripper, so she was hurt and it just happened. Rafe asks who it was. Jada says that doesn’t matter but Rafe says it does to him. Jada says he’s not the one to blame, EJ is. Rafe argues that it obviously wasn’t just some random guy or she would’ve told him. Rafe asks if it was one of her friends or his. Jada then admits that she slept with Shawn.

Orpheus comments on how diminished the ISA has become and asks who trained him. Andrew warns him that a a team of agents are about to storm through the door. Orpheus instructs Andrew to make another call and tell them he got free and ran so he can redirect them elsewhere and he can make a clean break. Andrew tells him that’s never going to happen. Orpheus warns that he’s made a fatal error by sending a civilian to do an agent’s job. Orpheus remarks that it’s a shame he will have to pay for Marlena’s mistake.

Steve checks the body and discovers that it is not John, but the man is still alive. Marlena is relieved as Steve puts pressure on the wound. The man warns them that it’s not safe and guesses he’s not going to make it. Steve asks for the man’s name. He responds that he is Dr. Carl. Steve recognizes his name from the files as one of the top nuclear scientists in Europe. Marlena shows him a photo of John and asks if he has seen him. Carl confirms that John was there. Steve asks where he is now. Carl responds that they took him as they knew he infiltrated the lab. Carl admits he helped John cover which is why they shot him. Carl adds that they took the device with John. Steve questions where they took him to. Carl utters “rosebud” before he then dies. Paul comes in and questions what Marlena is doing there. Steve says he was wondering the same thing. Marlena reveals that Orpheus showed up at her hotel room but she was able to get away. Marlena adds that Andrew was there to make sure Orpheus stays until the ISA gets there, so she thought she should get here to warn them about Orpheus. Paul asks who Carl is. Marlena says he was a hero, who pointed them in the right direction. Steve explains to Paul that John was there but they moved him and the nuclear device somewhere else, but they have no idea where yet. Marlena points out that Carl did say “rosebud”. Steve says they have no idea what that means but they need to find out. Steve suggests going back to the records room to see if there’s a file on it while Marlena wonders if Orpheus might know more and if he can help them if they question him.

Andrew asks Orpheus if he thinks this is going to end well for him. Orpheus points out that he has the gun and Andrew doesn’t. Andrew tells Orpheus that they know about his plans to sell the nuclear weapon on the black market, so even if he runs for it, everyone will be looking for him. Andrew tells Orpheus that if he hands him the gun, he will tell his team that he’s willing to cooperate. Andrew adds that his new found freedom is coming to an end, but there are things they can do to make his sentence easier on him. Orpheus agrees that he will never get out of this as a free man, so he will just have to amuse himself. Orpheus calls it quite a notch on his belt to kill the ISA director’s son.

Brady tells Kristen that Steve and Marlena couldn’t give him any specifics since John’s assignment was classified. Kristen encourages that everything will be fine. Brady says he misses John and he’s sure Rachel does too. Kristen brings up her mother and tells Brady that Jada threatened to charge her as an accessory unless she testified against EJ, but EJ found out and made the problem disappear.

Jada tells Rafe that he has to understand as she thought she was going to marry him but she was left at the altar. Rafe shouts that it wasn’t him. Jada cries that she knows that now but she was devastated with a broken heart and Shawn was there to help her get out of that terrible place. Jada adds that Shawn was hurt too from his breakup with Belle, so they just found comfort in each other. Rafe argues that Shawn is his friend and colleague. Rafe asks if Shawn just used her to get back at Belle.

EJ asks Belle if they are doing this again and says he’ll need another round of drinks. Belle tells EJ that it’s really important to him as she needs him to admit the truth, so she can know he will be honest with her and not just lie to her face again. Belle says if they are going to move forward, they have to be able to trust each other. EJ asks if she didn’t come over for a night cap but to get closure. Belle responds that she came because she wants him and needs him. Belle says she pulls away every time they get close because she’s so afraid he’s going to hurt someone else she loves and that is why she needs him to tell the truth. Belle wants EJ to promise it will never happen again and if she can believe him, then maybe they have a future together. Belle pleads with EJ to just admit it and tell her that he kidnapped Rafe.

Brady asks what Kristen means by EJ making the problem disappear. Kristen explains that EJ didn’t admit to anything but she knows he took her mother somewhere and is holding her against her will. Brady is upset that Kristen left Rachel alone in the house with EJ, knowing what he has done. Kristen argues that EJ won’t do anything to their daughter since she is his family and protected, unlike her mother who had been away for so many years. Kristen knows her mother didn’t have much sympathy after what she did to Ava. Brady informs her that he and Ava are no longer together as they have broken up after knowing they had to let EJ walk for Rachel’s sake. Brady calls that a little too much to overcome. Kristen says she’s sorry but Brady argues it’s what she wanted all along.

EJ questions Belle wanting him and says they want the same thing then. EJ leans in towards her but Belle reminds him that he first needs to admit what he did to Rafe. EJ says she’s in luck then because he didn’t do a damn thing to Rafe, which means she’s wearing a wire for nothing.

Jada argues that it wasn’t like that and Shawn wasn’t trying to get even with anyone. Rafe questions why she’s defending him. Jada cries that this is why Rafe didn’t need to know who it was. Rafe complains that he apparently didn’t need to know any of it. Rafe argues that he’s been home for weeks and asks why she didn’t tell him then. Jada argues that he was recovering so it never felt like the right time while Rafe complains that he feels like she was never going to tell him and just keep it from him. Rafe questions how she ever expects him to trust her again.

Andrew tells Orpheus that he doesn’t want to do this. Orpheus calls it rather poetic that the ISA got his wife killed, so he kills the ISA director’s son. Suddenly, Paul appears and shoots Orpheus from behind.

Kristen mocks Brady acting like she orchestrated the whole thing so that Ava would break up with him. Brady says he’s just been preoccupied as he’s worried about his father. Kristen encourages that he will come back. Brady wishes he was sure about that. Kristen responds that she is because she has faith and at this point, that’s all they have left.

Paul joins Andrew’s side. Andrew acknowledges that Paul saved his life and asks what he’s doing back and if he found John. Paul says no, but Steve and Marlena got a lead so they sent him here to find out what Orpheus knows about. Paul holds his gun on Orpheus and tells him that he’s going to tell him everything he knows, starting with what “rosebud” is.

Marlena wonders what Paul is finding out and if it was a mistake sending him back by himself. Steve responds that Andrew is with him and points out that Paul was trained by John which means he learned from the best. Marlena finds something in the files and shows it to Steve.

EJ tells Belle not to try to deny wearing a wire as it’s the only thing that would explain her sudden reversal. EJ argues that Belle spent days ignoring his calls and texts, then suddenly she shows up at his door admitting that she wants him but only if he confesses all his sins to her. EJ asks if she thinks he’s stupid. Belle says that’s not what is happening here. EJ tells her to prove she’s not wearing a wire then by removing her dress.

Jada tells Rafe this is so not fair because she’s telling him now. Rafe questions why she’s telling him now and if her conscience got the best of her. Jada asks if that’s what he thinks. Rafe says he doesn’t know what to think. Jada shouts that she’s telling him all of the truth because she loves him and he deserves to hear what happened. Jada states that she and Shawn were both hurting and asks Rafe to put himself in her shoes. Jada talks about thinking she was going to marry Rafe and then he humiliated her in front of the town, got her fired, and slept with a stripper. Rafe shouts that it wasn’t him and she should’ve known that. Rafe asks how she could have not known that man wasn’t him. Jada asks if he’s seriously asking why she didn’t guess that he was replaced by an impostor. Rafe questions how she could’ve thought so little of him, that he would take on EJ as a client, believe trumped up charges of her being a corrupt cop, or sleep with a stripper at his bachelor party. Rafe remarks if that’s the kind of man she thinks he is, then she doesn’t know him at all. Jada argues that she knew he wasn’t acting like himself and did everything in her power to find out why, including wondering if it was brain damage from his coma. Rafe argues that she just gave up after that and was so upset that she climbed in to bed with Shawn. Jada complains that he has no idea what Arnold put her through. Rafe says that’s all it took for her to just give up. Jada asks if Rafe blamed Sami when Arnold pulled this stunt because that would make no sense. Jada argues that Rafe is just pissed because he thinks EJ is going to walk. Jada screams that there is no one else to blame for what happened but that doesn’t mean he gets to blame her. Rafe reluctantly admits she’s right but he does blame her for not being honest with him from the start. Jada admits she should’ve told him right away, but they are here now. Jada asks how they can fix this and come back to each other. Rafe responds that there’s nothing she can do.

Orpheus laughs at Paul asking about rosebud and claims it’s not ringing a bell. Paul argues that he knows it’s connected to who took the bomb and John. Orpheus says he’s drawing a blank. Paul demands to know where John is and questions Orpheus torturing John for decades and blaming him for something he didn’t do. Paul declares that he’s done playing games and that this is never going to end until someone ends Orpheus. Paul adds that if Orpheus is not going to tell him where John is, then he has no reason not to blow him away right now.

Marlena shows Steve that she can only read “rosebud” while Steve notes that it’s encrypted so he’ll get it to the ISA. Steve compliments Marlena’s work and suggests they take a break. Marlena refuses but Steve convinces her that she’s of no use to John if she’s exhausted and should take a break while he sends pictures to the ISA. Marlena decides John’s children are going to want to hear about their dad.

Brady is not sure he shares Kristen’s faith but he hopes she’s right about his dad and that she finds her mother to get her the help she needs. Kristen says as long as EJ keeps her and her mother apart, she may have to force the issue. Brady questions what she means by that but Kristen says to forget she said anything and she needs to get home to Rachel. Kristen says goodnight to Brady and repeats that she really does hope John is safe and makes it home soon. Brady thanks her and wishes her luck with EJ as Kristen then exits.

EJ tells Belle again to take off her dress and if he’s wrong, she’s not wearing a wire, then they will have a laugh and head upstairs but that’s not the reason she came over. EJ guesses that she jumped at the chance when the cops suggested she wear a wire to prove to herself that she’s still a good person despite falling in to bed with him and to prove that she’s over him. EJ declares that the only way she’s going to rid herself of this temptation is for her to make him go away, but he’s not going to make it that easy for her. EJ tells Belle that he’s not going anywhere and even if it was behind bars, he’d still be in her head, her heart, and her soul. EJ says he’s afraid this whole setup was for naught as she won’t be able to break the spell they have over each other. Belle says they will see about that and walks out of the mansion.

Jada questions if Rafe is serious that there’s nothing she can do to make this right and prove how much she loves him. Rafe responds that he needs space. Jada feels they’ve had enough time apart and they can get through this together. Rafe says he can’t and that they need time to figure things out which he can’t do with her around. Rafe tells Jada that he’s going home, but he’s going alone.

Marlena calls Brady, who asks if she has any news on John. Marlena says yes and no, confirming that John is alive as far as they know. Brady guesses that’s something but Marlena is afraid he’s in more trouble than they feared.

Orpheus tells Paul that he’s not going to tell him where John is or where to find the bomb and that Paul’s never going to pull the trigger because he’s predictable. Orpheus adds that even if Paul could live with it, he would never implicate Andrew or condone cold blooded murder. Paul tells him not to speak for him. Orpheus remarks that he would be digging a grave for him and for Andrew’s career. Andrew argues that he could just tell his superiors that Orpheus reached for his gun again and he shot him in self defense. Andrew declares that Paul’s not going to do that because it’s not what John would want. Andrew states that the ISA is here to bring Orpheus in for questioning. Orpheus calls Paul predictable and remarks that he really is his father’s son.

Belle returns home and removes her wire in frustration.

Kristen goes home to the DiMera Mansion and tells EJ that they need to talk. EJ is not in the mood but Kristen doesn’t give a damn and asks where her mother is. EJ screams at her not now. Kristen says she’s going to check on Rachel while he takes some deep breaths. Kristen warns that this isn’t over as she will find answers on her mother one way or another. Kristen then walks out and pulls out the gun from her purse.

In Estonia, Marlena talks to Belle on the phone and says they got a new lead and she can’t go in to much detail but they might be very close to getting her dad back. Belle is glad she has something to go on and asks what she will do in the meantime. Marlena responds that she’s going to take a bath and promises to let her know as soon as she hears any news. Marlena tells Belle that she loves her and hangs up.

Jada goes to the police station and asks Shawn for a file on a case to catch up on. Shawn congratulates Jada on getting reinstated as police commissioner. Jada responds that it feels great to be back. Shawn is sorry for not saying anything sooner and admits he’s been trying to keep his distance because he wasn’t sure how she felt about them working together after what happened. Jada admits it’s a little awkward but decides it shouldn’t be a problem since they were friends before and are friends now. Jada adds that she can’t afford to lose a great detective like him. Shawn states that he doesn’t have a problem if she doesn’t, but then asks what about Rafe. Shawn assumes that she hasn’t told him yet. Jada confirms that she hasn’t and doesn’t intend to.

Rafe sits at home, reading on his tablet about EJ not being likely to be charged despite being accused of numerous felonies. Rafe says they’ll see about that and declares there is no chance in Hell he’s getting away with this.

Jada tells Shawn that Rafe is still recovering from the trauma of EJ and Arnold taking over his life. Shawn says he can’t imagine what they are both going through. Jada says they are rebuilding their life so she feels telling Rafe about them now would be just adding more injury. Shawn says especially now that they know EJ is going to skate on all the charges. Jada says maybe not and reveals that she has one more hail mary idea left. Jada declares that if it works, they could put EJ away for the rest of his life.

EJ sits at home, reading the article about him not being charged and remarks that at least he looks handsome. EJ then grabs his phone and texts Belle that he misses her.

Steve, Andrew, and Paul arrive at the facility and take out all the guards. Paul and Andrew get rid of the final two guards while Steve approaches the main desk and finds a folder that he says looks promising. Steve opens it up and says of course, he should’ve known.

Marlena is shocked by Orpheus appearing in her hotel room!

Andrew and Paul rejoin Steve after stuffing the guards in the closet and taking their guns and keys. Andrew asks if Steve found anything. Steve reveals the folder which shows Orpheus as the mastermind of the whole operation. Andrew asks if Orpheus is here.

Marlena questions how Orpheus got in. Orpheus explains that he stole a waiter’s outfit from room service with a key. Marlena argues that he should be in prison. Orpheus remarks that they haven’t built a prison that can hold him for long. Marlena guesses he escaped again. Orpheus says he can’t waste time rotting in a cell when there’s so many important things to do. Marlena asks if he means creating a nuclear device to sell to the highest bidder. Orpheus says it’s good that she’s up to speed as it will save time. Orpheus declares that it’s time to get her and John out of his way for good.

Jada goes to see Belle, who asks what she can do for her. Jada wants Belle to help her nail EJ once and for all.

EJ checks his phone and complains about Belle not responding to his text. Rafe then emerges from the door to the tunnels.

Shawn joins JJ in the interrogation room and asks about his paper work. JJ tells him that he’s just going over Tate’s statement about Alice’s stolen necklace. Shawn still can’t believe cousin Doug III was the one who stole it and calls it unforgivable. Shawn talks about how Julie was so nice to him. JJ says that’s obviously over now that she knows he betrayed her and kicked him out of the house. Shawn asks if JJ is going to arrest Doug III with Tate’s statement. JJ explains that he’s not sure Julie is going to press charges. Shawn understands it must be hard to have Doug’s grandson arrested and remarks that it would be another crook in Salem getting away. JJ guesses he’s talking about EJ and notes that Gabi is furious about that too after what EJ did to their family. Shawn hopes it’s not over yet because it sounds like Jada has a plan.

Belle tells Jada that she’s not surprised that EJ is her first case back on the job. Jada says she’s not the only one who wants to see EJ pay for his crimes. Belle believes the whole town wants that. Jada asks Belle if she will help her. Belle responds that she can’t because she had to recuse herself from any cases involving EJ. Jada comments on that being because of her personal relationship with him. Belle remarks on Jada knowing all about that. Jada apologizes for Paulina finding out about that and telling Gabi in the first place. Jada blames being frustrated on everything EJ did to her and Rafe. Belle understands and doesn’t blame her, but says she still can’t help her with the case. Jada knows Belle can’t prosecute EJ, but she hoped that Belle could help them get EJ in a different way, by wearing a wire.

Rafe hides in the doorway to the tunnels until EJ leaves the room. Rafe then emerges from the tunnels to plant a bugging device in the room.

Andrew questions Orpheus being behind all of this when he thought he was locked up. Steve responds that he was until he wasn’t. Paul guesses they shouldn’t be surprised and wonders if that’s why John was brought in to this. Steve states that nobody knows how Orpheus works better than John. Paul asks if Orpheus was involved in John disappearing. Steve is not sure he has disappeared and reveals that according to the files, there’s mention of an agent infiltrating the place while dressed as a scientist and bets that it was John. Paul guesses John traced Orpheus to this location and wants to go find John to help put Orpheus back in prison. Steve stops Paul and says they are not all going.

Marlena realizes that John is in Estonia because he was tracking Orpheus. Orpheus says he should’ve expected that from the ISA but adds that he managed to stay on step ahead of John. Marlena asks if he knows where John is. Orpheus confirms that he does and adds that John did manage to infiltrate his top secret facility by posing as a scientist, but he caught on soon enough. Marlena asks what he’s done to her husband and where John is. Orpheus responds that her concern for her husband has always been very touching and mocks their eternal devotion. Orpheus warns Marlena to worry less about John and more about herself as he pulls a gun on her.

Shawn tells JJ to let him know if he needs any help. JJ stops Shawn and says he understands if it’s none of his business and he doesn’t want to discuss it, but he’s been concerned since he told him about he and Jada. Shawn appreciates his concern and acknowledges that he did confide in him. Shawn confirms that he and Jada spoke briefly and reveals that Jada doesn’t plan to tell Rafe which he guesses makes things less messy. JJ asks Shawn if he’s going to be able to live with that secret.

Belle questions Jada wanting her to go undercover to bust EJ. Jada asks her to at least consider it to get him to incriminate himself. Belle asks how she’s even supposed to get close to EJ when she doesn’t have a relationship with him anymore as she ended it. Jada suggests it’s possible that EJ still has feelings for her and asks if he would believe Belle changed her mind about ending it. Belle guesses it’s possible. Jada calls Belle a world class litigator and an expert at getting people to tell on themselves and she knows she believes in justice. Jada argues that EJ stole Rafe’s life, destroyed her wedding, and engineered Ava’s kidnapping. Jada knows Belle doesn’t want to see EJ get away with that, unless she doesn’t want to see EJ go to prison.

Rafe plants the bugging device on a statue in the living room of the DiMera Mansion and looks back at the portrait of Stefano, asking if he’s upset that he’s going after his son. Rafe declares that now all they have to do is sit back and watch EJ incriminate himself. Rafe goes to leave but EJ returns and asks what the hell he is up to.

Paul questions Steve saying he can’t come with him to find his dad. Steve clarifies that he’s not talking about Paul. Andrew argues that he’s an ISA agent. Steve says that’s exactly why he can’t come because this is an unauthorized mission, so if he came along, he could be jeopardizing his future with the agency. Andrew says he’s not worried about that. Steve says he will worry for both of them and he knows Shane doesn’t play favorites. Andrew questions him expecting him to just sit on the sidelines. Steve feels the further away he gets, the better. Andrew argues that it doesn’t help John and that Paul can’t be on board with this. Paul tells Andrew that he loves him for wanting to help but he doesn’t want him to jeopardize his career. Steve adds that just because Andrew isn’t there, doesn’t mean they can’t use his help which Andrew questions. Steve asks Andrew to go back to the hotel to check on Marlena and tell her what’s going on. Andrew complains about being made the messenger when he’s the only reason they know about this place. Steve argues that he’ll be thanking him if the whole operation goes sideways while Paul assures they will be fine. Steve knows John would want it this way too. Paul knows Andrew wants to be by his side, but agrees with Steve and says if they do get in trouble, they will need Andrew to get them out of it. Steve says they all have each other. Andrew worries that they know how dangerous Orpheus is. Steve points out that they don’t even know if he’s here.

Marlena asks if Orpheus broke in to her room to shoot her in cold blood. Orpheus responds that considering the delicate situation, he can’t have her interfering. Marlena questions how delicate it is. Orpheus says that’s hardly her concern. Marlena think she’s entitled to know if she’s going to die for it. Orpheus responds that she got in his way one too many times, complaining that she and John have been thorns in his side for decades while now he finally has the chance to free himself from her interference. Orpheus goes to shoot her but Marlena grabs her travel bag and hits him to knock the gun away.

Shawn tells JJ that he doesn’t love keeping it from Rafe but points out that Jada didn’t even know she would be cheating on Rafe as she thought he was the one who left her first. JJ assures that he’s not judging them. Shawn appreciates his concern but says the whole situation sucks and Jada doesn’t deserve any of this. Shawn talks about Jada being strong and deserving to be happy which is all he wants for her. JJ then asks if Shawn has feelings for Jada.

Belle tells Jada that she does want EJ to go to prison for everything he did. Jada assumes that Belle won’t just stand around and let him get away with hurting the people she loves then. Belle agrees to wear the wire and do whatever it takes to put EJ behind bars.

Rafe tells EJ that he came to see Johnny and asks if he’s around. EJ says no, so Rafe asks when he will be back. EJ says he couldn’t say. Rafe brings up Johnny not speaking to EJ anymore as he knows he found out what EJ did to Sami. EJ calls that none of his business. Rafe talks about how hard it must be for Johnny since he knows how hard EJ fought to keep that from him, but now Johnny knows what kind of monster he is. Rafe decides he’ll just text Johnny to ask when he’s coming home. EJ tells him not to bother since Johnny moved out. Rafe remarks that even if EJ isn’t being prosecuted, it looks like he’s still suffering the consequences since he lost his son and he’s pretty sure he lost Belle all because his fragile ego couldn’t handle losing the district attorney job. Rafe suggests EJ make an appointment with Marlena so he can get all his secrets off his chest.

Paul and Steve agree to split up in search of John and then meet in the middle. Steve instructs Paul to check every room and assures that if John is there, they will find him. Steve reminds Paul to be careful as they head out.

Andrew goes to Marlena’s room. She answers the door and asks if everything is alright. Andrew responds that he hopes so as they found out who is behind all of this. Marlena reveals she did too as she brings Andrew inside to find Clyde tied up and unconscious, shocking Andrew.

Shawn tells JJ that he and Jada are just friends and that she’s in love with Rafe. JJ says he knows but questions the way is he talking about her. Jada then enters the room with Belle and says she hopes they aren’t interrupting. Shawn says not at all and asks what’s going on. Jada reminds him of her having an idea to bring EJ down and reveals that Belle has agreed to wear a wire. Belle says she will try to get a confession out of EJ and assures that her relationship with EJ is over or she wouldn’t be involved. Shawn says he’s glad to hear that while JJ adds she’s doing a good thing. Belle calls it the right thing. Shawn thinks JJ should handle the paper work on this one as he has a few cases to handle. Shawn wishes Belle luck and says she will be great as he then exits the room.

EJ asks Rafe why he would share any information with you. Rafe guesses the guilt of what he’s done isn’t eating him up like it would most people. EJ responds that he has nothing to feel guilty about, nothing to confess, and he has no idea what he’s rambling about so it appears their business is complete. Rafe tells him to have a great day then and exits.

Andrew asks Marlena how this happened. Marlena explains that Orpheus came in, pulled a gun on her, and she subdued him. Marlena asks if they’ve found John. Andrew says not yet, but they are hopeful as Steve and Paul are searching the facility which means he needs to transport Orpheus to the ISA. Marlena declares she’s going to the facility then. Andrew doesn’t think that’s a good idea but Marlena says she has to help. Andrew warns that it’s not safe. Marlena points out that staying here wasn’t safe either. Andrew says he can’t let her go. Marlena responds that he can’t do anything since he has to stay and make sure Orpheus doesn’t escape. Andrew argues that he can arrest her but Marlena says he knows that she needs to go find John, like John would do for her or Andrew would do for Paul. Marlena asks Andrew how to get to the facility.

Steve finds a door that the key card isn’t working on and then hears gunshots from inside.

Shawn returns to Jada in the interrogation room. Jada informs him that JJ finished wiring up Belle, so she is at the DiMera Mansion as they speak and JJ is in a van across the street. Jada hopes Belle can get EJ to talk as this might be their last chance to get something on him.

Belle shows up at the DiMera Mansion and tells EJ that she got his text and she misses him too.

Jada asks Shawn if everything is okay as he seems a little quiet. Shawn knows the timing is weird, but he feels like he needs to tell her that JJ knows about what happened as he figured out and he couldn’t lie to him. Shawn assures that nothing will happen as JJ is his partner and he knows he can trust him. Jada responds that she trusts JJ too, but their little secret is not so secret as Stephanie knows and now JJ knows too. Jada doesn’t want Rafe to find out from anyone else. Shawn insists that no one will tell him but Jada brings up that secrets have a way of getting out in Salem. Jada declares that she needs to tell Rafe, herself. Shawn asks if she’s sure about this. Jada responds that it would kill her if he found out some other way. Shawn tells her that he supports whatever decision she makes. Rafe then enters the room and greets them. Jada says she was just about to call him. Rafe asks if everything is alright. Jada asks Shawn to give them the room, so he exits. Jada then tells Rafe there is something she needs to talk to him about.

Andrew calls in for transportation as he has Orpheus in custody. Andrew then turns around and Orpheus has suddenly disappeared.

Steve breaks in to the room at the facility and shoots a man who has seemingly just shot John. Marlena then comes in behind Steve and is shocked by what she sees.

Marlena is in Estonia, on the phone with Brady. Marlena tells Brady that she doesn’t want him to come all this way and reminds him that he has to take care of Rachel. Marlena hangs up as John’s son Paul surprises her at the door and hugs her.

Steve sits at a café in Estonia, on the phone with Kayla. Steve hopes his contact has some information on John and notes that he should be there any minute. Steve tells Kayla that he loves her and hangs up. Steve looks over the menu and then is surprised by Andrew Donovan joining his table.

Philip goes to the Brady Pub and tells Kate that they need to talk. Kate says she has to talk to him too and notes that she doesn’t want him to be alarmed but that he and his brothers might be in danger. Kate explains that EJ thinks she ruined his relationship with his son, so he’s threatened to hurt one of her sons. Kate adds that she threatened to kill EJ if he touches any of her sons, but she doesn’t know if he took it seriously so they need to watch their backs. Kate says she talked to Austin, Rex, and Lucas but notes that Philip is more vulnerable because he lives in Salem. Philip promises to be careful but remarks that at this point, his life might be over anyway.

At the Kiriakis Mansion, Xander informs Sarah that he told Alex the truth that Philip and Stephanie are sleeping together behind his back. Sarah asks if he’s insane and questions why he would do that.

Alex demands an answer from Stephanie as to if she’s sleeping with Philip and if that’s the secret Xander overheard them talking about. Stephanie thinks back to Sarah pleading with her to tell Alex that she and Philip hooked up but it’s over now. Stephanie then tells Alex that she and Philip have been keeping a secret, but it’s not what he thinks. Alex asks if she’s not cheating on him with his cousin then. Stephanie confirms that she would never do that to him, so Alex asks what it is that she and Philip are keeping from him.

Marlena tells Paul that she just managed to convince Brady not to come and if she knew Paul was coming, she would’ve talked him out of it too. Paul says that’s why he didn’t tell her. Marlena calls it such a long trip but Paul insists that he wants to be here and will be here until they find John. Marlena thanks him but questions how he found her. Paul informs her that Andrew told him as they came together.

Steve tells Andrew that he was expecting some local person to meet him but is surprised to get Andrew. Steve asks Andrew why he’s here. Andrew informs him that his father Shane sent him.

Xander asks why Sarah is freaking out about this. Sarah thought they agreed that Philip and Stephanie’s affair was none of their business. Xander says she wanted to stay out of it but he wasn’t sure. Xander explains that he decided to tell Philip to end things with Stephanie but unfortunately Alex overheard, so he had no choice but to tell him everything. Sarah worries about this being bad and asks if Xander couldn’t have stalled. Xander argues that Alex wasn’t going to give up until he found out the truth.

Stephanie tells Alex that she wants to tell him but she promised she wouldn’t say anything. Alex questions who she promised. Stephanie swears that the secret has no direct impact on Alex and asks him to just trust her. Alex asks what if someone told her that he was cheating on her and he said he wasn’t, but he was holding another massive secret from her. Alex asks if she’d be able to let that go. Stephanie admits that he deserves answers, so Alex asks what is going on. Stephanie then sits Alex down and brings up the letter that Victor wrote that helped Philip get half of Titan and reveals that it was a forgery.

Kate brings up Philip saying that Xander was clueless yesterday. Philip says he was only partly right as Xander did overhear he and Stephanie in the town square and incorrectly assumed that they were sleeping together behind Alex’s back. Kate jokes that is better than finding out about the letter. Philip isn’t so sure since Alex almost choked him to death. Kate encourages that he’s still co-CEO of his father’s company. Philip worries that everything could change if Stephanie tells Alex the truth.

Alex is shocked to learn that the letter from Victor was fake. Stephanie explains that Philip forged the letter with Vivian’s help, so he has no legitimate claim on Titan. Alex asks how she knows about this. Stephanie informs him that when she was dating Philip, she overheard him on the phone with Kate. Alex is surprised to learn that Kate knows too. Stephanie says she confronted Philip over it and they got in a huge fight as he used her and put her whole career at risk which is the real reason they broke up. Alex questions why she didn’t tell anyone if she was so upset. Stephanie then reveals that she did tell Sarah.

Xander tells Sarah not to blame him because he’s not the one who has been keeping secrets from his significant other. Sarah asks what Philip said to Alex. Xander explains that Alex didn’t give him much chance before he was ready to start swinging. Xander adds that he was able to separate them and then Alex stormed out. Sarah notes that he went straight to Stephanie’s. Xander asks what happened there but Sarah says there was so much tension that she didn’t stay long. Xander says it will be very interesting to hear what Stephanie has to say for herself.

Marlena tells Paul that Andrew must be torn in being there for John but also wanting to be there for Kimberly. Paul explains that Andrew decided Theresa and Shane had it covered with Kimberly, so he wanted to be here. Paul encourages that if anyone can help them find John, it’s Andrew.

Steve tells Andrew that if Shane sent him to talk he and Marlena out of looking for John, they are wasting their time. Andrew responds that Shane knows he can’t stop them, so he just wanted him here to watch over them while Shane is with Kimberly. Steve says that Kayla told him about Kimberly’s leukemia and he’s sorry to hear. Andrew thanks him and says he wanted to fly home but she’s got enough support and there’s only so much they can do right now, so he might be of more use here, helping them find John. Steve thought he was just monitoring the situation. Andrew says that’s officially, but he wants to do everything in his power to help find Paul’s father. Steve asks even if that means breaking the rules. Andrew says that Paul keeps asking him what he knows. Steve states that Shane has been shutting them out too. Andrew then reveals that Shane hasn’t been shutting him out, so he’s been lying to Paul as he knows more about John’s mission. Steve asks what he knows about it. Andrew admits he knows quite a bit, but it’s classified information and it’s killing him not being able to share it with Paul, but he has an obligation to the agency. Andrew admits it’s more complicated because his dad is his boss and he would be disobeying his direct orders by telling what he knows. Steve argues that they are talking about his friend and partner, so he has to ask Andrew to let him in on this. Steve adds that he and Marlena came here for answers. Steve understands that Andrew is torn between the ISA and family. Steve brings up being a trained agent and knowing how to walk that line, so he can trust him. Andrew then agrees to tell him what he knows.

Paul asks Marlena how much Shane has told her. Marlena says not much as he said John’s handler lost track of him in Estonia and no matter how hard they pushed, they couldn’t get more information out of him, so they are hoping someone here can give them a lead. Paul says the one thing he knows for sure is that even if the odds are virtually impossible, John can beat them. Paul jokes that John is like James Bond but cooler and calls him his idol. Paul recalls that he and John did not get off to a good start, and neither did he and Marlena. Paul talks about Marlena being his therapist after surgery when he first got to town and she happened to be Will’s Grandmother. Marlena remembers Paul being in a tough spot with his baseball career ending and he was in the process of coming out. They say that’s all in the past. Paul realizes that in two weeks, it will be ten years since he found out John was his dad which he calls one of the best things to ever happen to him.

Kate asks Philip if he thinks Stephanie will keep his secret. Philip admits she’s not his biggest fan. Kate points out that she’s gone along with everything thus far. Philip doubts Stephanie will risk her relationship to cover for them. Kate suggests he go talk to Stephanie instead of speculating. Philip feels there’s no point as he’s sure Alex is already grilling her and she’s told him the truth. Kate urges Philip so he agrees to go talk to Stephanie even if he believes it’s too late. Philip adds that if he does strike out, Kate won’t have to keep this secret from Roman anymore. Kate argues that she hates keeping the secret from Roman but she would do it for him because she loves him. Kate tells Philip to stop with the pessimism and to go out and protect what is rightfully his. They hug as Philip then exits the Pub. Roman approaches Kate, who tells him that she he just missed Philip. Roman says he caught a glimpse of him and notes that Philip looked kind of depressed while Kate looks worried, so he asks what’s going on.

Xander informs Sarah that Philip didn’t deny the affair, so he guesses Stephanie will have no choice but to come clean. Sarah hopes it will just blow over. Xander says maybe if it was just the cheating but not lying to his face for so long and making a fool out of him. Sarah guesses Stephanie had her reasons. Xander guesses Stephanie and Philip had unresolved feelings, noting that they did break up abruptly but he wishes they weren’t going behind Alex’s back because he didn’t deserve that. Xander acknowledges that he and Alex haven’t always gotten along but he did take his side against Philip in court and he took it like a champ when he found out he wasn’t really Victor’s son and graciously stepped aside. Sarah calls Alex a really great guy. Xander brings up how Theresa screwed Alex around and he was finally happy with Stephanie, but to betray him like that, he must be devastated. Sarah then tells Xander that she made a mistake.

Alex questions Stephanie about Sarah knowing about Philip’s scam. Stephanie explains that after her fight with Philip, she ran in to Sarah and told her everything. Alex questions Sarah not telling Xander. Stephanie explains that Kate and Philip convinced her to stay quiet and then Sarah convinced her. Alex calls this crazy, arguing that Philip committed a major crime and everyone wants to keep it quiet. Stephanie tells Alex that now he has to do the same but Alex declares that he cannot do that because his cousin deserves to know the truth. Stephanie tells Alex that he can’t tell Xander any of this. Alex repeats that Xander deserves to know. Stephanie says it’s not that simple. Alex says it is simple for him because it happened to him when he was misled by a phony letter from Victor, so he’s not going to let it happen to his cousin. Stephanie explains that if Xander finds out that Sarah’s been lying to him this whole time, he will never forgive her and their marriage will be over. Alex doesn’t get why Sarah even lied. Stephanie explains that Kate and Philip argued that even though the letter was forged, they believe Victor wanted Philip to run Titan but he couldn’t put it in his will because of Philip’s mental illness, so she didn’t think it was fair to penalize Philip for that. Alex questions Sarah caring more about what’s fair to Philip than her husband. Stephanie calls it best for everyone which Alex questions. Stephanie tells Alex that Sarah was worried that if Xander was alone at the top, all the power would go to his head while having Philip there would keep him in check. Alex argues that Sarah should be able to trust her own husband. Stephanie asks if Alex would trust Xander alone at the top. Stephanie adds there’s also a strong chance that if Xander found out, he would either prosecute Philip or kill him and she didn’t want to be responsible for that. Alex questions her pretending not to know. Stephanie assures that if this directly affected him or their relationship, she would’ve shut it down from the beginning but it doesn’t. Stephanie warns that if Alex tells the truth, it will be world war three in his family and all the success he’s enjoying at Titan will be destroyed along with Xander and Sarah’s marriage.

Xander questions Sarah saying she made a mistake. Sarah responds that she underestimated how much he cares about his family. Xander tells her that she and Victoria are everything to him. Sarah says she meant Alex and Philip since he keeps saying he wants everyone to get along and admits she thought it was all talk, but he’s clearly upset about what’s going on between them so she’s sorry for doubting him. Xander understands because in the past, he was all about himself. Xander says with Victor gone, he doesn’t feel that way anymore and feels responsible to keep the family from falling apart. Xander wonders if he should check on Alex but Sarah feels that he and Stephanie need time to talk. Xander believes they’ve had enough time to talk and he can’t stop imagining himself in Alex’s position. Xander adds that if Alex doesn’t want him there, he’ll leave but he just wants to see how he’s doing. Sarah decides if he’s determined to go, then she’s going with him, so they exit together.

Alex tells Stephanie that he doesn’t want to cause any problems for Xander and Sarah, but he owes it to Xander to tell him the truth. Alex brings up Xander being really cool about everything with him and hiring him back at Titan when he didn’t have to do that. Stephanie understands he’s loyal to Xander but she really thinks they should respect Sarah’s wishes and leave it alone. Philip then arrives and tells Alex that he knows he’s upset but their affair is over. Alex tells him to save it because Stephanie already told him the truth as he calls him a liar and a fraud.

Kate tells Roman that Philip was just having relationship drama. Roman didn’t realize he was seeing anybody. Kate calls it complicated. Roman asks if there’s anything he can do to help. Kate says that’s sweet but he has more important things on his mind like his sister’s health. Roman admits he wanted to fly to California but Kimberly insisted she had more than enough help with Shane and Theresa there. Kate asks about Andrew. Roman reveals that Kimberly said he’s in Europe, helping Steve and Marlena find John.

After Andrew fills Steve in, Steve acknowledges it’s a lot to take in. Andrew says now he can see why it’s such a sensitive matter. Steve calls that an understatement and says before he had the full picture, he thought maybe he and Andrew could run a risky operation of their own but they are going to need reinforcements. Andrew says absolutely not as nobody else can know about this. Steve asks about Paul and Marlena. Andrew says they are civilians and this is too dangerous. Steve argues that Paul worked with Black Patch and worked with Andrew in Hong Kong while Marlena might be tougher than all of them put together. Steve states that Paul is John’s son and Marlena is the love of John’s life, but says it’s Andrew’s call.

Paul admits to Marlena that at first, he wanted nothing to do with John but he wouldn’t give up. Paul flashes back to when John flew out to San Francisco to see him after he left town. Paul feels bad about how he initially treated him. Marlena says he has no need to feel that way since they had a rocky beginning but she recalls Paul risked his life to save John from Orpheus. Paul says he’d do it again in a heartbeat as he means everything to him. Marlena says they share that. Andrew and Steve then arrive at the room and greet them. Marlena tells Andrew that she’s so sorry about Kimberly. Paul asks if they figured out a lead on John. Andrew reveals that he actually has inside information which Paul questions. Andrew admits he’s known for awhile and he’s sorry he couldn’t tell him sooner. Marlena asks what changed. Andrew responds that time is running out. Marlena asks what that means. Steve reveals that someone has been building a nuclear device in Estonia. Andrew adds that Shane won’t say who it is but they are ready to sell to the highest bidder and the ISA is worried about it falling in to the wrong hands. Steve calls it tricky because several governments are involved. Marlena asks how John fits in. Andrew explains that John was the one who found the secret facility where the device was being held and the ISA told him not to infiltrate, but when they lost contact with him, they suspect he went rogue. Paul asks if they know where the facility is. Andrew confirms that he does, so Marlena wants to go but Steve thinks it’s best if she stays behind.

Kate asks Roman if he thinks John is okay. Roman admits he doesn’t know since Shane keeps stonewalling him too. Roman is sure he has his reasons but calls it frustrating. Kate says Marlena must be out of her mind with worry. Roman knows Marlena won’t give up until she finds John and brings him home safe.

Marlena tells Steve that he can’t be serious as she didn’t come all this way to sit on the sidelines. Steve warns that this is a nuclear weapon. Marlena says this is her husband so she’s going. Paul tells Marlena that they know she can do anything but that they need to get in, get John, and get out while having her there might make John worried and distracted which might jeopardize everyone’s safety. Paul says it’s about maximizing their chance of success, so Marlena reluctantly agrees to stay behind and asks them to call the moment they are safe. Marlena tells them to be careful as Paul, Steve, and Andrew then exit together.

Stephanie asks if Philip really thought she’d let Alex believe she was cheating on him. Philip asks if it would really be that bad. Philip tries to explain how Victor couldn’t put him in his will. Alex complains that Philip has a habit of screwing his own family members. Philip says he does feel bad about Xander. Stephanie tells Philip that he’s on his own with this one. Philip admits he kind of likes Xander after getting to know him and argues that Alex said they make a great team. Alex complains that it’s based on a lie while Philip points out that it’s still thriving. Philip reminds Alex they are about to make a major move. Alex doesn’t care. Philip declares that they are this close to making something epic but if Xander finds out, that all goes away. Philip asks Alex to do it for Victor’s legacy and argues that this is so much bigger than them. Philip says it’s about all future generations of their family and asks Alex to do it for them. Xander then knocks on the door and asks if Alex and Stephanie are inside. Philip says not to answer it, but Alex opens the door to see Xander and Sarah. Xander says they came to check on Alex, but if they are in the middle of something, they can come back. Alex tells Xander that he’s glad he came by because it’s about time the truth comes out in the open. Xander didn’t expect to see Philip there. Philip responds that he knows he screwed up, but he hoped he could get Alex to understand. Xander says he’s sort of the head of the family now and asks Alex if there’s anything he can do to smooth things out. Alex thanks him but says after hearing from Stephanie and Philip, he knows exactly what has to be done. Alex hesitates and then claims to Xander that Stephanie admitted to the affair and now she and Philip will never see each other again. Xander asks if that’s it with no broken noses or hearts. Alex responds that they had a heated discussion but the three of them agreed it would be best if they just move on.

Kate tells Roman that she’s so glad he decided to turn in his badge and run the Brady Pub because she doesn’t know if she could put up with the stress of him constantly putting his life at risk. Roman jokes about things getting dicey at the Pub too. Kate says she’s serious as she doesn’t know what she would do if she lost him. Roman assures that she will never lose him. Roman hugs her as Kate says she will hold him to that.

Marlena talks to Belle on the phone and says they got a new lead, so they might be very close to getting her dad back. Marlena promises to let her know as soon as she hears any news. Marlena tells Belle that she loves her and hangs up.

Steve, Andrew, and Paul arrive at the facility and take out all the guards. Paul and Andrew get rid of the final two guards while Steve approaches the main desk and finds a folder that he says looks promising. Steve opens it up and says of course, he should’ve known.

Marlena is shocked by Orpheus appearing in her hotel room!

Doug III comes out of the shower and back to Holly’s room where he looks at a framed photo of Holly and Tate. Holly then comes back in, so Doug III asks what happened with Maggie. Holly informs him that it turns out Julie did tell Maggie that he stole the necklace and it wasn’t Melinda who told Julie, it was Tate who ratted him out.

Tate calls Johnny and leaves a message, saying he’s so sorry that Amy called off the adoption. Tate hopes there is some way they can fix this and hangs up. JJ then shows up at his door and says he’s there on official police business.

Gabi finishes a call in her office as Melinda arrives and asks if Gabi ran the hit piece on the DiMeras in the Spectator. Gabi remarks that Leo actually did something right for a change. Melinda suggests she curb her enthusiasm. Gabi asks why, feeling EJ will never be able to show his face in public again. Melinda informs Gabi that EJ is not the only DiMera that Leo exposed, he also took down Kristen. Gabi says that’s great while Melinda worries that their CEO is being painted as a psychotic criminal. Melinda warns that DiMera Enterprises and all it’s subsidiaries will be ripe for the picking including Gabi Chic.

At the Kiriakis Mansion, Philip expresses his excitement about Leo’s article on the DiMeras to Xander and talks about how this will quell any doubts that Wei Shin had. Philip notices Xander’s distracted and questions why he’s not excited about this. Xander responds that he has more important things on his mind which Philip questions. Xander says like the secret Philip and Stephanie have been keeping.

Sarah goes to Stephanie’s apartment and tells her they need to talk. Stephanie says maybe later but Sarah says it can’t wait as they have a massive problem. Alex then comes in and asks what kind of problem. Sarah didn’t know Alex was there. Alex responds that he and Stephanie are pretty much inseparable these days and asks if he can help solve this problem.

Philip tells Xander that he can explain. Xander tells him not to bother as he already knows everything. Philip asks how he found out. Xander reveals he heard he and Stephanie in the town square before they saw him. Xander asks how Philip could do this to his own family. Philip says he needs to understand but Xander reveals his belief that Philip and Stephanie are sleeping together behind Alex’s back which surprises Philip.

Holly tells Doug III that she’s sorry while he says she has nothing to be sorry about. Holly says she feels bad for everything he’s going through including Julie throwing him out of the house. Doug III says it’s all on him since he’s the one who broke Julie’s trust and stole from her. Holly argues that Tate had no business telling on him. Doug III hates seeing her upset. Holly complains that her selfish jerk of a boyfriend couldn’t keep his mouth shut.

JJ informs Tate that this is about Alice’s necklace because Julie told him that he told her Doug III stole it. Tate is surprised that Julie went to the police. JJ points out that it’s an expensive diamond necklace. Tate doesn’t see what this has to do with him. JJ tells him that he’s part of the investigation now and will need an official statement. Tate asks if Doug III will be arrested. JJ says that depends on if Julie presses charges and mentions that she threw him out of the house. Tate asks where he is now. JJ says he doesn’t know but he intends to find out. JJ says he just wanted to give Tate a heads up about the statement and he will be in touch to schedule him to come down to the station as he then exits. Tate worries that this is not good.

Gabi asks Melinda if she really thinks there will be blowback on DiMera because of Leo’s article. Melinda informs her that she’s been on the phone all day with people wanting to cut ties and their stocks have taken a nosedive, so the entire company is in freefall. Gabi asks if she can sue somebody. Melinda says she’s trying to keep all DiMera heads on the same page and instructs Gabi to say no comment if a reporter reaches out. Gabi admits she was so busy celebrating EJ’s downfall that she didn’t consider what it could do to the company. Gabi cries that she just got Gabi Chic back and doesn’t want to lose it because of the DiMeras being amoral losers. Melinda reminds her that one of them still signs their checks. JJ arrives and asks if it’s a bad time. Gabi greets him and is thankful he’s there. Melinda takes that as her cue to leave but JJ stops her and says he actually came to see her.

Doug III reminds Holly that he told Tate, so he only knows about it because of him. Holly argues that still doesn’t give him the right to go blabbing to Julie. Doug III points out that he could’ve said something at the Bistro but he panicked and decided not to. Holly complains that JJ probably would’ve arrested him if he did and calls Tate a selfish jerk. Doug III points out that she hasn’t talked to Tate directly so she doesn’t know the whole story. Holly believes Tate wanted to punish him while Doug III suggests maybe Tate did it to protect her because he was worried that he would drag her down with him. Holly tells him not to make excuses for Tate. Holly says she didn’t clear it with Maggie but she’s sure it’s okay if he stays here until he figures out his next move. He thanks her and says he really appreciates it. Holly asks what kind of friend she would be if she let him sleep in the park again. Doug III says he should get dressed and go look for a job. Holly reminds him that his clothes should be out of the dryer now. Doug III says he’ll make sure to sneak out. Holly say she’ll see him later as she’s going to get the full story and then exits.

Alex asks Stephanie and Sarah what the problem is. Sarah claims it’s the hospital fundraiser as Kayla was supposed to come help Stephanie with planning but she got called in to surgery. Alex says he would be happy to help. Sarah says she has the morning free, so she was coming to offer her services which Stephanie says would be great. Alex says he’ll stick around too but Stephanie thinks they are good and reminds Alex that he has to get to the office. Alex says if they don’t need him, he will take off. Alex then exits. Sarah comments on that being close. Stephanie compliments her save and asks what the real problem is. Sarah reveals that Xander thinks Stephanie and Philip are having an affair.

Philip questions Xander thinking he and Stephanie are sleeping together. Xander responds that he knows they are because he heard Stephanie say that Alex would feel totally betrayed if he knew their secret. Xander says he wouldn’t get involved in their personal life but Alex is their cousin and their employee. Xander adds that Sarah told him to stay out of it. Philip questions him talking to Sarah about it. Xander says he needed her help to figure out what to do with the information. Philip asks what he decided. Xander understands he and Stephanie may have unfinished business, but she’s with Alex now. Xander remarks that the three of them are in the middle of a complicated take over attempt and the last thing he needs is for Alex and Philip to come to blows because they are in love with the same woman.

Sophia walks through the town square and runs in to Doug III. He tells her that he applied for the assistant manager position at the Bistro and was told to talk to Ava. Sophia says she’s not in yet but she can take his name and number to her, so he writes it down. Sophia then realizes he is Doug III and introduces herself, adding that she is carrying Tate’s baby.

Holly goes to see Tate, who says he was just about to leave for school. Holly says school can wait and questions why the hell he told Julie that Doug III stole her necklace.

Gabi questions JJ being there to see Melinda. Melinda says if it’s about the necklace, she said everything she had to say about it at the police station. JJ says he got new information that she might like to know and informs her that Doug III admitted to stealing the necklace and the confession was backed up. Melinda asks if it was his mouthy sidekick Holly. JJ asks if she’s saying that Holly knew and didn’t say anything. Melinda guesses it wasn’t her then. Melinda says she has a lot of fires to put out and goes to leave but JJ stops her and says he’s going to need her to hand over the necklace immediately. Melinda responds that she’s afraid she can’t do that.

Stephanie questions Sarah. Sarah explains that Xander overheard her and Philip talking in the town square about a secret that would hurt Alex. Stephanie says she knew he heard more than he let on. Sarah repeats that Xander thinks she’s having an affair with Philip and says she told him to keep his suspicions to himself, but she doesn’t think he’s going to. Stephanie calls it a nightmare. Sarah points out that it’s not as bad as it could be, considering the alternative. Stephanie questions Sarah thinking it’s a good thing that Xander thinks she’s cheating on Alex with his cousin. Sarah clarifies that it’s better than Xander finding out the truth. Stephanie asks who it’s better for and argues that Sarah and Xander have been through worse than this, so their marriage would survive Xander finding out the truth while if Xander tells Alex that she’s cheating on him with Philip, her relationship is over.

Philip swears to Xander that the secret he heard them talking about is not what he thinks. Xander questions if he’s not having sex with Stephanie then, right as Alex walks in.

Sophia tells Doug III that she’s heard a lot about him from Tate, like how he stole a grieving woman’s necklace. Doug III informs her that Tate ratted him out and now Holly is confronting him as they speak.

Tate explains to Holly that he did this for her because he was afraid she would get arrested and it would mess up her whole future. Holly calls that bull and argues that he did it to hurt Doug III because he wanted it to stick it to him ever since he found out they were friends. Tate argues that Doug III is not her friend and is just using her. Holly remarks that he’s been there for her plenty of times when Tate wasn’t. Tate argues that Holly doesn’t even know who Doug III owed money to or what he could be getting her mixed up in when it could be gambling, drugs, or weapons. Holly feels he’s being dramatic and informs Tate that Doug III’s debt is over now. Tate questions how when he doesn’t even have a job. Tate is shocked to realize that Holly paid it for him and complains that this is exactly what he was talking about in regard to Doug III ruining her life. Holly remarks that this isn’t about her but about Tate ratting him out because he was jealous. Tate denies it while Holly complains that Tate called Julie because he was upset that she went to meet Doug III. Tate argues that he called Julie because he was worried about Holly. Holly argues that it goes back to New Year’s Eve when Tate was upset that she and Doug III watched the ball drop together. Tate agrees that his concern for her does go back that far. Tate brings up the first time he met Doug III, he had stitches above his eye and lied about it when he clearly got roughed up by somebody. Tate asks how that wasn’t a huge red flag to stay away from him. Holly compares it to Tate keeping the fact that he called Julie from her and questions him not being honest with her. Tate apologizes. Holly tells Tate that if he would’ve given Doug III a chance to explain, Julie might have forgiven him. Tate suggests that she still could but Holly says she can’t and declares that because of Tate, Julie’s relationship with Doug III is over.

JJ warns Melinda about the consequences of refusing to turn over stolen goods that she’s in possession of. Melinda responds that she is no longer in possession of the necklace. JJ asks what she means and what happened to it.

Stephanie complains to Sarah that her love life has been one trainwreck after another and she’s finally in a relationship where she and Alex are really happy, but it will be over in a heartbeat if he thinks she’s cheating on him with her ex. Sarah doubts it will come to that. Stephanie asks what she’s supposed to do if Xander tells him. Sarah suggests she could just let Alex believe it which shocks Stephanie.

Alex questions what Xander just said. Xander responds that he didn’t hear him come in. Alex says that’s obvious and asks Philip if he’s sleeping with Stephanie. Alex demands somebody say something now. Xander tells Alex that he’s sorry but it’s true as he heard Stephanie and Philip talking yesterday about keeping a secret from him. Alex then grabs Philip and calls him a son of a bitch. Xander separates them while Alex screams at Philip. Xander says this is exactly what he was afraid of and they can’t be at odds with everything they have planned for DiMera. Alex says screw that and storms out of the mansion. Philip questions Xander having to tell him. Xander argues that Alex is family and he wasn’t going to just lie to his face. Xander declares this ends now and that whatever Philip had going on with Stephanie is over because they are this close to the finish line of proving they are worthy of carrying on the Kiriakis legacy, so he’s not going to watch it fall apart because Philip can’t keep it in his pants. Philip tells him not to worry as from now on, he won’t go anywhere near Stephanie.

Stephanie questions the idea of letting her boyfriend believe she’s cheating on him. Sarah asks what else they are supposed to do. Stephanie suggests telling Xander the truth. Sarah admits she thinks about that all the time because she hates lying to him, but points out that the lie is working the way they hoped it would. Stephanie argues that this lie is a different lie that directly affects her and Alex. Sarah encourages her to look at the bigger picture that they have prevented a war between Xander and Philip while they have been acting like real brothers. Stephanie argues that if Alex believes she’s cheating on him, he will quit Titan and break up with her. Stephanie tells Sarah to think about how she’s asking her to hurt Alex when this whole forged letter has nothing to do with her and it only became her problem when she happened to overhear Philip talking about it and Sarah chose not to be honest with her husband. Sarah argues that they didn’t want Xander to murder Philip. Stephanie tells Sarah that she needs to be honest with her husband. Sarah complains that she can’t because the lie has gone on too long. Stephanie declares there is no way she is letting Alex believe that she’s cheating on him with Philip. Sarah tries to convince Stephanie to tell Alex that she and Philip hooked up a couple times but it’s over now and beg for his forgiveness. Sarah tells Stephanie that she and Xander fought so hard to get back together and if he finds out that she knew about Philip’s letter being forged, she will lose him forever.

Melinda tells JJ that she finally realized the necklace was more trouble than it was worth, so she sold it which shocks JJ. JJ questions why she would do that when she knew it belonged to his family. Gabi adds that she knew Julie wanted it back while JJ asks who she sold it to. Melinda responds that she’d rather not say. JJ warns her that she better say. Melinda declares that they’ve already established that he has no cause to arrest her so this conversation is over. Melinda says she has an international conglomerate to save as she exits.

Doug III informs Sophia that Holly went to rip Tate a new one because she’s mad that he didn’t give him the chance to tell Julie himself. Sophia argues that the necklace has been missing for months, so he had plenty of time to come clean. Doug III decides he shouldn’t get in to this with her and thanks her for offering to give Ava his phone number. Sophia points out that this could end up working out well for him. Sophia talks about Holly already being upset with Tate being jealous and now she will be even more pissed which could give him an opening. Doug III remarks that from what he’s heard, Sophia is the one looking for an opening. Sophia questions what he meant by that and asks what a jobless thief thinks he knows about her life. Doug III explains that he heard she and Tate were together but then he dumped her to go back to Holly. Sophia clarifies that she broke up with Tate. Doug III brings up that being after Tate said Holly’s name in bed but even that wasn’t enough to kill Sophia’s feelings for him. Sophia tells Doug III that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Doug III remarks that he saw the look on her face when he told her that Holly went to chew out Tate and that she loved hearing that. Doug III believes that Sophia is hoping Holly breaks up with Tate over this and comes back to her. He accuses Sophia of playing the long game to have her baby daddy all to herself.

Tate questions Holly saying that Julie’s relationship with Doug III is over because of him when he’s not the one who stole the necklace. Holly argues that he made a mistake and was trying to make it right, but Tate took away his chance. Tate asks how he was supposed to know that Doug III was going to grow a conscience. Holly argues that it wasn’t his truth to tell. Tate tells her that he didn’t mention Holly’s name so the police have no idea she knew anything. Holly can’t believe he talked to the police. Tate explains that JJ came by and said he’s going to need to give an official statement. Holly can’t believe him. Tate asks if he was supposed to lie to JJ. Tate understands Holly is angry but he did what he thought was right and he hopes one day she will understand that. Holly then tells Tate that they are done.

Sarah worries to Stephanie about what Xander will do to Philip if he finds out the truth and assures that she will lose him. Sarah asks Stephanie to do it for their daughter if not for her. Alex comes back, so Stephanie asks what he’s doing back so soon. Sarah says she has to go and will see them later as she hurries out. Stephanie asks how Alex got out of work today. Alex then asks Stephanie to tell him that she’s not sleeping with Philip.

Sophia tells Doug III that he’s wrong. He asks if she doesn’t want Tate all to herself. Sophia says there may have been a time when she tried to come between Tate and Holly, but not anymore and she just wants Tate to be happy. Doug III says they are on the same page then because he wants the same for Holly, even if that means she works things out with Tate.

Tate questions Holly breaking up with him over Doug III. Holly says it’s because he deliberately hurt her friend. Tate argues that her friend stole from his own family and somehow he’s the bad guy for telling the truth. Holly says it’s not just about him telling Julie but about his jealousy, Sophia, and the baby he can’t get rid of. Holly stops and says she didn’t mean that last part and she’s just frustrated and overwhelmed. Tate questions her being overwhelmed. Holly says it’s all coming out wrong and she just feels like ever since they got back together, it’s been nothing but drama and everything feels so out of control lately. Holly remarks that when you love someone, it’s not supposed to be like this. Holly tells Tate that she does love him, but she can’t help but think that maybe Leo was right when he told her not to get caught up in the bliss because it could all be over in a second and the next thing she knew, Sophia was pregnant. Tate argues that he committed to her. Holly says that when these huge obstacles keep coming up, they have to accept that maybe the universe is trying to tell them they aren’t meant to be together.

Gabi tells JJ that she’s sorry about Melinda. JJ tells her not to worry about it. Gabi hates that Melinda is stonewalling him like that. JJ insists that Melinda will tell him what she did with the necklace whether she likes it or not.

Sarah goes home to the Kiriakis Mansion where Xander is pacing in the living room. Xander asks where she’s coming from. Sarah says she was at Stephanie’s place and asks if he happens to know why Alex came in, looking like he had just punched someone in the face. Xander responds that it was more choking than punching which Sarah questions. Xander admits that he told Alex about Philip and Stephanie.

Alex demands an answer from Stephanie as to if she’s sleeping with Philip and if that’s the secret Xander overheard them talking about. Stephanie thinks back to Sarah pleading with her to tell Alex that she and Philip hooked up but it’s over now. Stephanie then tells Alex that she and Philip have been keeping a secret, but it’s not what he thinks.

Tate paces at home and thinks back to telling Julie that Doug III stole the necklace. Tate questions what he was thinking and worries about Holly finding out.

Holly lays in bed upset at home and then sits up to text Doug III, asking what happened when he told Julie the truth.

Maggie goes to the Horton house and brings Julie some lemon bars but Julie says she doesn’t have an appetite. Maggie says she’ll leave them for Doug III but Julie informs her that he won’t be eating them either because he’s gone as she threw him out.

Paulina walks through the park and finds Doug III sleeping on the bench, so she leaves a bag from the bakery and walks on.

Johnny sits in the living room at Paulina’s, thinking back to confronting EJ about raping Sami. Johnny gets up and looks at a knife on the table as EJ then arrives, knocking on the door and asking him to open up.

Maggie questions Julie throwing Doug III out of the house. Julie reminds Maggie about Alice’s diamond necklace from the time capsule that vanished so mysteriously on the day of Doug’s memorial. Maggie asks what she’s saying. Julie then reveals that Doug III is the one who stole it.

Doug III is woken up by receiving Holly’s text, so he calls her. Holly asks what happened with Julie after he told her the truth. Doug III confirms that he did and she felt very hurt and betrayed, so she threw him out of the house which he totally deserved. Holly says she’s so sorry as she thought maybe Julie would give him another chance since he owned up to it. Doug III reveals that he actually wasn’t the one to tell her. Holly doesn’t understand. Doug III says that when he got there, Julie already knew. Holly questions who told her.

Sophia goes to see Tate. Tate is surprised she’s not sleeping in. Sophia hopes today is the day her mom finally approves of Johnny and Chanel for the adoption. Sophia thinks Paulina was pretty persuasive. Tate asks what the issue is. Sophia responds there is none anymore and she wants to ask them a few questions to get a better sense of who they are, but if everything goes according to plan, Johnny and Chanel will be their baby’s parents.

Chanel meets Paulina in the town square and thanks her for being there for them today and for letting her and Johnny stay with her and Abe last night. Paulina says they are always welcome in their home and her heart goes out to Johnny because she can’t imagine him finding out how he was born. Chanel agrees that it’s pretty horrifying and wishes there was something she could do or say to help. Chanel adds that EJ said he wasn’t totally sorry about raping Sami because if he hadn’t, Johnny wouldn’t exist. Paulina calls EJ sick. Chanel says that Johnny is worried about Amy finding out somehow. Paulina encourages that whatever happened all those years ago is none of Amy’s business. Paulina talks about the sins of the father and tells Chanel to rest easy because there is no reason for Amy to ever find out about what EJ did to Johnny’s mother.

EJ continues asking for Johnny to open the door so he can talk to him. Johnny answers the door and asks what the hell he wants. EJ responds that he wants him to come home.

Tate tells Sophia that he’s just really glad that her mom is on board with Johnny and Chanel adopting the baby. Sophia feels he doesn’t seem that glad. Tate assures it’s what he wanted, but has something else on his mind. Sophia guesses it’s about Holly and asks what she did this time. Tate says it’s not really what Holly did, but what he did.

Doug III tells Holly that Julie didn’t say who told her, but he guesses it was Melinda. Holly reminds him that Melinda didn’t say anything to the cops. Doug III suggests maybe JJ got it out of her. Holly questions where he slept last night if Julie kicked him out of the house. Doug III informs her that he camped out in the park. Holly asks if he’s insane since there was a thunderstorm last night and questions why he didn’t call her. Doug III says it’s fine. Holly tells him to come over to her house right now and they’ll figure it out when he gets there as they then hang up.

Maggie can’t believe Doug III stole the necklace and questions why he would do that. Julie responds that she has no idea but he said he was desperate and stupid. Julie says it doesn’t matter because what’s done is done and he’s a thief, so she couldn’t bear to hear excuses. Maggie says she’s so sorry. Julie talks about thinking he was family and bringing him in to the family home. Julie thought when Doug III first appeared, it was her miracle and that he would be there for her. Julie says he seemed nice but now her heart is breaking all over again.

Chanel talks to Paulina about feeling like she’s about to fail a big exam. Paulina knows how important this is and she truly believes it’s going to work out. Chanel remains worried about Johnny as he’s never been like this before, so she hopes he can keep himself together and that he doesn’t let Amy sense something is off. Paulina encourages that the adoption means everything to them, so he will pull himself together. Chanel prays for nothing to screw this up. Amy then arrives in the town square and asks if there’s a particular reason that Chanel is worried.

Johnny tells EJ that he doesn’t have a home. EJ argues that the DiMera Mansion is his home. Johnny disagrees and says that it was, but now it’s just some big, gaudy house built on a foundation of lies. EJ tells him that one day, that house will belong to him. Johnny responds that he doesn’t want it or anything from EJ or Stefano. Johnny can’t believe that Stefano wanted EJ to impregnate a Brady so he went ahead and raped Sami. EJ argues that it wasn’t that simple. Johnny calls it straightforward to him and says EJ got a son out of it. EJ is thankful he’s here but Johnny says he wishes he wasn’t. EJ argues that Johnny is a loving person. Johnny tells EJ to shut up because all he does is lie. Johnny says he doesn’t want to live with him and he wants nothing to do with him. EJ asks him to hear him out. Johnny tells him again to shut up and says not to call him “son”. EJ asks Johnny to let him say a few things and then he promises to leave. EJ sits down and states that Sami is a wonderful woman and it may have taken awhile, but she knew he loved her with all his heart, so he eventually got through to her. EJ admits he tried to excuse what he did when it was inexcusable, but he did try to make her understand that he sometimes behaved in ways he felt he had no control of. EJ admits that he was a deeply flawed person who behaved reprehensibly and shamefully at times, but his heart was sometimes in the right place like right now as he feels so much love for Johnny. EJ states that Sami at the time saw the best in him and eventually forgave him, so he asks if Johnny thinks he could too, in time.

Doug III joins Holly in her room. Holly points out that his clothes are soaking wet and tells him to give her his clothes so she can put them in the dryer while he goes to take a shower. Doug III then removes his jacket and shirt.

Julie complains to Maggie about he she accused her own brother of stealing the necklace when Doug III sat there the whole time. Maggie understands the necklace represented her family. Julie talks about it belonging to Alice. Maggie asks how Julie found out. Julie explains that last night, she went out to dinner at the Bistro and there was Melinda Trask, wearing the necklace. Julie says she confronted Melinda but she denied it while Doug III just stood there. Maggie assumes the police ultimately put it all together. Julie says they didn’t but now JJ is doing everything in his power to get the necklace back from Melinda. Maggie asks how she found out then. Julie reveals that she got a phone call from Tate.

Sophia asks Tate why Doug III stole the necklace. Tate guesses he owed some people money and was in a bad way, so he saw the easy way out and confided in Holly. Tate adds that Holly told him and he promised not to tell anyone, but last night, he broke that promise and told Julie that Doug III was the thief.

Amy questions why Chanel is so worried that something might screw this up. Chanel says there’s no reason in particular but she’s jut nervous because it would mean the world to her and Johnny if Amy gives them her blessing to adopt Sophia and Tate’s baby. Paulina, Chanel, and Amy grab a table while Paulina says she will order them tea. Amy asks if Johnny is coming. Chanel says he’ll be there any minute. Amy informs them that she’s given it a lot of thought, consulted her lawyer and husband and prayed on it. Amy then announces they have decided they would be comfortable with Johnny and Chanel adopting the baby which thrills Paulina and Chanel. Paulina excitedly proclaims that Chanel is going to be a mother. Amy adds that her lawyer did have some questions for her to ask first, but when she reaches in to her purse and opens up her tablet, she sees an article in the Spectator titled “DiMeras in Disarray” with EJ on the cover.

Johnny tells EJ that there is no way in hell that he could ever forgive him. Johnny states that everything he knew was a lie, so he’s been wondering what’s true, and he realized that what’s true is that everything EJ touches dies. Johnny complains about the destruction EJ leaves and the women that come and go from his life. Johnny tells EJ there is nothing for them to work out because what he did was unforgivable. Johnny tells EJ to just go so EJ says he will if that’s what he wants. Johnny looks back at the knife on the table and tells EJ that before he goes, there is one more thing.

Maggie questions Julie as to how Tate knew. Julie says he didn’t give any details, just that Doug III admitted to it. Maggie can’t believe this happened and says it’s the last thing Julie needs. Maggie asks if it would help if she stayed but Julie says she’ll be fine and that Thomas and Charlotte will be back soon from school and they always cheer her up. Julie just wishes she could stop worrying about Doug III, where he slept last night and if he’s okay. Maggie says that’s because Julie is a good person and despite the terrible thing he did, Doug III is still family. Maggie brings up Doug III and Holly becoming quite close, so she wonders how much Holly knows about this.

Holly tells Doug III to go take a shower while she will talk to Maggie to make sure he can stay here for awhile. Doug III argues that she can’t do that since Maggie is friends with Julie and won’t want him here. Doug III brings up Tate and doesn’t think he’ll want him camping out in his girlfriend’s bedroom. Holly tells him to let her worry about Tate.

Tate tells Sophia that he doesn’t know what he was thinking but admits he was bothered by how much time Holly was spending with Doug III and even more bothered when he found out that Melinda knew Holly was covering for him, so he was freaked out that Holly could go down as an accomplice all because Doug III stole from Julie of all people. Tate says without even thinking, he was dialing Julie’s number and thought he would drop a couple hints to guide her to the truth, but before he knew it, the words were just pouring it out of him. Tate says he rationalized it by telling himself he was doing it to protect Holly but that’s not the whole reason he did it. Sophia understands he wanted to punish Doug III which Tate admits, but he ended up punishing himself because sooner or later, Holly is going to find out that he told Julie and she will never forgive him.

Johnny tells EJ that he will send for he and Chanel’s things because he wants nothing more to do with him. Johnny declares that EJ is dead to him.

Amy questions if Chanel and Paulina knew about this. They claim not to, so Amy reads the article to them about EJ being implicated in crimes and recently seems to have escaped the law once again after Rachel Blake disappeared. Paulina argues that those charges are alleged, not proven. Amy brings up that Chad is EJ’s brother and the editor of the Spectator so he’s willing to put this out there. Amy continues reading about how EJ stands out as ruthless. Amy worries about her grandchild being raised in a house of felons. Chanel assures that it won’t be and that she and Johnny already moved out. Amy questions if they moved out because they believe the allegations in the article are true. Amy worries that EJ would wield significant power over her grandchild’s life regardless of where they live. Amy thinks this article is the sign from God that she’s been seeking as she then declares that this adoption will not happen. Amy tells Chanel that she’s sorry and walks away, leaving Chanel and Paulina in tears.

Doug III appreciates what Holly is trying to do for him. Holly promises she won’t get in trouble for him staying there because Maggie is the kindest person. Holly tells him to go shower while she talks to her and then asks him to hand over his pants.

Maggie goes home to the Kiriakis Mansion, finishing a call with Nicole. Maggie tells her they are sending things for baby Jude and says that Holly is fine but she will have her call her later as they hang up. Holly then comes in and tells Maggie that she needs to talk to her about something. Maggie says she has to talk to her too and informs her that Julie told her that Doug III stole Alice’s necklace, but something tells her that isn’t news to her. Maggie calls this a very serious matter and asks Holly to be completely honest as she asks if she’s been covering for Doug III all this time.

Sophia encourages that maybe Holly won’t find out that Tate is the one who ratted out Doug III. Tate complains that everyone finds out everything in Salem. Sophia suggests maybe she’ll understand why he did it. Tate responds that he doesn’t even know why he did it. Amy then shows up at the door, surprising them. Amy decides it’s best to speak to both of them at the same time. Sophia asks how it went with Johnny and Chanel. Amy says not as she hoped which Sophia questions. Amy says she wanted this adoption to work out but it’s become clear that it’s not in the best interest in the child. Sophia asks why not, so Amy shows her the Spectator article about EJ.

Paulina tells Chanel that she’s so sorry. Chanel can’t believe this is happening when they were so close. Johnny arrives and apologizes for being late, but asks if Amy didn’t show. Chanel informs him that she came and left which Johnny questions. Chanel reveals that Amy called off the adoption. Johnny asks what happened, so Paulina informs him that his father happened.

Doug III comes out of the shower and back to Holly’s room where he looks at a framed photo of Holly and Tate.

Holly tells Maggie that she knows how much the necklace means to Julie, so she wouldn’t have covered for Doug III if she wasn’t sure that he was going to tell her the truth, but he wanted to get it back first. Maggie points out that he didn’t. Holly explains that he wanted to work out a plan with Melinda but she refused. Holly guesses Melinda had to go tell Julie the truth but Maggie reveals that Julie found out from Tate, which shocks Holly.

Sophia asks what Amy is saying. Amy declares that they are either going to have to find a suitable couple to adopt or Sophia and Tate will have to raise the baby, themselves.

EJ goes home to the DiMera Mansion, leaving a message for Chad to call him back immediately. EJ hangs up and complains about Leo and Chad. Paulina arrives and declares that it’s EJ that is betraying people. Paulina tells EJ that he’s destroyed Johnny and Chanel. EJ asks what the hell she is talking about. Paulina brings up the sins of the father and informs him that the adoption fell through because of EJ and his litany of crimes, so they are beyond devastated. Paulina complains that they have been through enough. EJ tells her to tell him what he can do. Paulina says he’s done enough and she just came to warn him that no one messes with her baby and gets away with it.

Johnny and Chanel go back to Paulina’s. Chanel complains that they were so close to having it all. Johnny declares he won’t let EJ get away with this. Chanel asks what he means. Johnny says EJ is the reason that Amy wouldn’t approve their adoption. Johnny calls EJ ruthless and evil. Johnny states that if not for EJ, Amy would’ve said yes and they would be parents now. Chanel says that EJ is a factor and that’s not going to change. Johnny looks over again at the knife on the table and says they will see about that.

Holly meets Doug III in the park. He tells Holly that he just talked to Julie and it turns out that Melinda didn’t mention their names to the cops. Holly is relieved and asks if they are in the clear. Doug III says he’s not sure about that since Julie also said she won’t rest until she finds out who took the necklace. Doug III declares that Melinda didn’t say anything, but he’s starting to think maybe he should tell Julie that he’s the one who took the necklace.

Tate declares that he’s sorry but this is for Holly’s own good as he calls Julie. Tate tells Julie that he heard about her Grandmother’s missing necklace and he has some information about who took it. Julie asks what kind of information. Tate reveals that he know who stole it.

Brady walks through the town square and gets a call from Marlena, who informs him that she and Steve have made it to Estonia so with any luck, he’ll be seeing his father very soon.

Melinda goes to the DiMera Mansion where Kristen is pacing in the living room. Melinda offers to take her mother’s signed immunity agreement but Kristen says she’s afraid there’s going to be a problem because her mother never signed the agreement. Melinda asks why the hell not.

EJ is outside the Brady Pub, on the phone with Rita to thank her for arranging Rachel Blake’s “travel arrangements”. EJ tells Rita not to concern herself with Kristen because she has no idea. EJ thinks Rita deserves a bonus for helping him dispatch Rachel Blake and Arnold. EJ declares that thanks to Rita, any person who could have caused him trouble has been taken care of. Ava then approaches him.

Melinda questions Kristen saying her mother is gone. Kristen complains that Rachel Blake didn’t have a cell phone and that EJ is the snake that made her disappear in the first place.

Ava tells EJ that she would love to be the one to put him behind bars for his role in her kidnapping, they both know that’s not going to happen. EJ comments on justice for the crime being likely to elude her. Ava thinks back to Melinda giving her a gun and tells EJ not necessarily.

Holly asks Doug III why he would tell Julie now when it sounds like he’s in the clear. Doug III talks about how determined Julie is to prove the necklace was stolen. Holly feels that doesn’t mean she’s going to find out it was him. Doug III worries that the clock is ticking and if Julie is going to find out, it has to come from him before someone else gets to her first…

Julie tells Tate that it’s kind of him to reach out but Melinda Trask has already denied the allegations about her stealing the necklace as she said she bought it legally and the police are not going to arrest her. Tate clarifies that she’s not who he is talking about as Melinda is not lying when she said she didn’t steal it, someone else did, so Julie asks who did. Tate then informs Julie that it was Doug Williams.

Holly asks Doug III to wait until he gets the necklace back, so she might go easy on him then. He doesn’t see how he can get it back, feeling he’s out of options and time. He says this is his fault, so he will take the fall for it alone and promises not to mention her. Holly says she’s more worried about him and Julie since she really cares about him and this could really hurt her. Doug III thinks it could hurt her more to hear it from someone else and feels he owes her this much. Holly tells him that he’s very brave if he goes through with this. He says he’s just trying to make things right. Holly feels there’s a chance Julie might be impressed by his honesty. Doug III declares either way, this is what he has to do and thanks Holly for her help with everything. Holly wishes him luck as they hug.

Julie questions Tate telling her that Doug’s own grandson stole the necklace. Tate confirms that’s exactly what he’s saying. Julie refuses to believe it and doesn’t understand how he could say that. Tate is sorry as he doesn’t want to upset her but thinks she should know the truth and the truth is that Doug Williams stole the necklace. Julie asks how he knows that. Tate responds that Doug III told him that he did. Tate says he has to go and he’s really sorry about this as he hangs up.

Marlena tells Brady that they are in the city where the ISA last stationed John but he could be anywhere at all. Brady encourages her to get some rest. Marlena says it’s early there and Steve has already gone out to follow some leads. Brady tells her to keep him posted and says they will find John. Brady tells Marlena that he loves her as they hang up. Steve then comes to Marlena’s door, so she asks if he had any luck.

Melinda questions how EJ got rid of Kristen’s mother and why. Kristen explains that she apparently let it slip to EJ that she was getting an immunity deal t take him down. Kristen blames herself for thinking she could just tell her to stay in her room instead of taking her out of the house. Kristen complains that now they don’t have anyone to testify against EJ.

EJ tells Ava that he admires her determination, but they both know why that’s not going to happen. EJ warns Ava that if she spills on him, Rachel will be taken away from Brady and Kristen while all the blame would go to Ava. EJ adds that he has it on very good authority that Rachel Blake has been removed from the equation which Ava questions. EJ says she won’t be stepping foot in Salem for quite awhile. Ava is glad she won’t have to worry about Rachel Blake breaking in to her room with a kitchen knife. EJ asks if that’s a thank you. Ava knows he did it to save his own skin. Ava warns that EJ might feel safe now and she might not be able to testify against him, but that doesn’t mean she can’t get justice in other ways. EJ questions her sounding very confident. Brady then interrupts and says he was just coming to see Ava. Brady questions what’s going on here. EJ says their business is concluded and walks away. Brady asks Ava what that was all about. Ava says that EJ was just gloating because he knows she can’t touch him regarding his part in her kidnapping, unless she wants Rachel’s parents taken away from her. Brady repeats that he’s sorry that she had to deal with any of this. Ava says it is what is. Brady asks if they can go upstairs and talk, but Ava doesn’t think there’s anything left to talk about.

Melinda questions Kristen having no clue where Rachel Blake is now. Kristen confirms that EJ is stonewalling her and nothing gives him more pleasure than having the upper hand. Kristen complains that she just got her mother back and EJ takes her away from her. Kristen declares there is no way in hell that he’s going to get away with this. Melinda admits it’s malicious even for EJ, but he does have the upper hand now, so she can’t see how they can take it back. Kristen responds that there might be a way to force EJ’s hand.

Marlena asks Steve if there’s any word on John. Steve says not yet, but he doesn’t want her to worry as he has contacts that will put him in touch with some of the locals that John worked with before he went missing. Steve says they could hear from them tomorrow and suggests they rest up today, then hit the ground running in the morning. Marlena says that’s exactly what Brady said, but she came all this way to find her husband and she will not leave until she finds him. Steve hugs her and says he knows.

Holly returns to Tate which surprises him. Tate asks if something happened with Doug III and if she’s okay. Holly responds that she’s more than fine now that she’s no longer in danger to being an accomplice to the whole necklace situation. Tate asks how she can be sure. Holly informs him that Doug III promised to keep her name out of it when he finally confesses to Julie today.

Julie sits with a framed photo of her and Doug, questioning how this could have happened. Doug III then comes in and asks if something is wrong. Julie responds that something is very wrong. He asks if it’s about the necklace. Julie confirms that it is and reminds him of how upset she was when they walked in and saw Melinda wearing the necklace. Julie says it reminded her of the day they buried Doug because that day, someone came in to the house and stole the necklace. Julie explains it being a family treasure and how Alice was the matriarch of the whole Horton family, but somebody decided to turn the necklace in to money. Julie doesn’t understand how somebody could do something like that. Julie then says maybe Doug III knows. He asks what she means. Julie then reveals that she knows he stole the necklace.

Tate questions Holly telling him that Doug III is confessing to Julie today when he thought he was going to wait until he got the necklace back. Holly guesses he changed his mind since he knew Julie was going to find out one way or another, so he figured it would be best coming from him. Tate tells Holly there’s something she should know.

Julie repeats to Doug III that she knows he stole the necklace. He asks how. She asks if it matters and if he’s going to deny it. Doug III then admits that it was him that took the necklace and says he was coming here to tell her now. Julie argues that it had been missing for months and he’d been living in the house for months. Julie mocks it being a coincidence that he was coming to confess on the night she found out. Julie questions believing him after all the lies he told her. Julie says when he first showed up, everyone in the family was suspicious of him but not her. Julie adds that she accused her own brother of taking the necklace while Doug III stood there and said nothing. Julie accuses him of taking advantage of her in the darkest hour of her life while she was at Doug’s grave site. Julie screams at Doug III to stop lying to her and orders him to pack his things and get out of her house.

Steve ordered room service but Marlena isn’t sure she has an appetite. Steve encourages Marlena to keep up her strength, noting that he would catch hell from John if she got sick on his watch. Marlena says they wouldn’t want that. Marlena sits down and talks about all the times she and John have been in danger or trouble, somehow they knew what the other was feeling and they knew they would always find their way back to each other no matter what.

Brady asks Ava if this is about Kristen’s mother coming after her again. Ava says it’s not and that EJ said she doesn’t need to worry about Rachel Blake ever again because according to him, she has been removed from the equation. Brady notes that Kristen won’t be happy about that but says it’s good for them since Ava doesn’t have to worry about her getting in their way. Ava points out that she would still have to worry about his daughter. Ava is certain their relationship won’t survive the blast when Kristen goes on the warpath. Brady says he can talk to Rachel and Kristen, but he’s tired of people interfering in their relationship. Ava feels no matter how hard they try, something is always coming between them and she can’t do it anymore. Ava tells Brady that she thinks they should stop seeing each other.

Melinda tells Kristen that she can’t be serious about taking it that far. Kristen feels she doesn’t have a choice. EJ returns home and asks a choice about what. Kristen says they were just talking about him as she was just telling Melinda how he managed to kidnap her mother and now he’s going to give her back to her. EJ asks why he would do that. Kristen responds that she will make EJ the new CEO of DiMera Enterprises. Kristen explains that she’s willing to step down and recommend him as her replacement. EJ asks what makes her think the board would listen. Kristen says she can be very persuasive. EJ doesn’t buy it as she would never give up that job when being CEO means everything to her. Kristen says it doesn’t mean as much as her mother. EJ argues that she lived without her for years while Kristen argues that she thought she was dead. Kristen asks why EJ is hesitating when this is his ideal scenario as he wins and she loses while it will only cost him giving her mother back safe and sound. Kristen feels it’s a small price to pay for a huge victory. Kristen asks EJ if they have a deal.

Brady asks if Ava really has her mind made up. Ava confirms she has and she knows it’s not great timing when he has so much going on with Tate and John missing. Ava says she’s so sorry about all of that but she has to protect herself. Brady argues that she just said Kristen’s mom won’t be an issue. Ava clarifies that she meant protecting her heart from him which Brady questions. Ava tells Brady that she really likes him but she has a sinking feeling that no matter how hard they try, it’s going to end badly and she can’t afford to have fallen for him more than she already has.

Steve begins eating the breakfast and points out Marlena hardly taking a bite. Marlena brings up all the times she and John saved each other over the years. Marlena recalls when Megan held her captive and everyone thought she was dead until John and Steve found her on the Greek island. Steve says they didn’t track her down as they technically didn’t know she was there. Marlena encourages that Steve and Kayla do this all the time and sense what’s going on with the other person. Steve calls that their love. Marlena brings up Hattie having her committed to Bayview where John was in the room right next to her, so they found their way back to each other. Steve promises to do everything he can to make sure Marlena and John are together again.

Tate wants Holly to know that he was not out to get Doug III and he was just worried about Holly getting dragged in to all of this. Holly assures that he doesn’t have to worry about that anymore since Doug III promised to keep her name out of it. Holly says she helped Doug III out in a bad time and now he’s going to look out for her. Holly insists that Doug III really is a good guy and she hopes Julie can see that too.

Julie tells Doug III again to get out of her house. He tries to explain but she yells that she will call JJ to have the police escort him out, so Doug III then agrees to leave and heads upstairs to pack.

After Steve leaves, Marlena remains alone in her room and thinks back to when she and John reunited in Bayview. Marlena declares that she’s now reaching out to John and pleads for him to reach out to her.

Ava tells Brady that it’s getting late so Brady tells her that he’ll let her head back inside. Ava adds that she doesn’t regret a second of their time together and hopes he doesn’t either as she kisses him on the cheek and then goes on in to the Pub.

Holly tells Tate that she should get home, so they can finish their movie another night. Holly knows it’s a really tough time with Sophia’s pregnancy, Kimberly being sick, and John missing. Holly assures that she’s there for him and she loves him. Tate says he loves her too as they hug.

Doug III returns to the living room with his bag packed and tells Julie that he knows it was an unforgivable thing to do to steal the necklace, but he was desperate and stupid, so he made a terrible mistake. He adds that there’s no excuse for what he did and that he should’ve told her after she took him in. Doug III admits he was just scared and says he really is sorry as he calls getting to know her the happiest time of his life. He understands if she never wants to see him again. Julie ignores him the whole time, so he exits the house as Julie then breaks down crying.

EJ admits CEO is a very tempting offer, but he must decline which Kristen questions. EJ doesn’t trust her not to pull some trick to deny him the position. Kristen argues that she wouldn’t take a risk with her mother on the line. EJ complains that Rachel Blake would be free to blab about his illegal escapades. EJ declares that her silence is far too valuable for him to even consider letting her step foot in Salem. EJ decides they have nothing left to say to each other. EJ exits as Kristen shouts that this isn’t over as she will get her mother back and make him pay.
