After Rafe and Lucas leave the Brady Pub, EJ remains at the bar and guesses the meeting of the Sami Brady ex-husbands club has ended. Roman confirms it has and says he’s just glad they didn’t turn his place in to the wild west, joking that he doesn’t have the budget to fix broken chairs. EJ acknowledges that they were surprisingly civil. Roman acknowledges EJ as the father of his grandchildren and says he would like to remain civil. EJ admits he would too and thanks Roman for hosting John III’s baby shower. Roman comments that it was nice having everyone under the same roof again. Roman calls Trey a sweet baby that lights up the room. EJ remarks that he wouldn’t know and takes a drink.

Johnny and Chanel are at home with Paulina trying to get baby Trey to stop crying as Johnny and Chanel are picking up toys. Johnny decides he will take Trey for a walk in his stroller. Chanel realizes that she left the diaper bag in the car. Paulina decides she will go with Johnny to get Trey set in his stroller while Johnny gets the bag ready. Chanel says she will go too but Johnny tells her to stay and relax because she deserves a break. Chanel says she’ll clean up a little bit then. Johnny and Paulina then exit with Trey.

Shawn and Javi talk at the hospital about a case. Javi tells Shawn that his shift is over so he’ll see him later and exits. Belle walks by, so Shawn asks how Marlena is. Belle says that she’s better. Shawn invites Belle for coffee which she says she would like.

Leo finds Chad in the town square and questions what he’s doing there at this hour. Leo asks how Thomas is doing. Chad says he’s doing better and thanks him for asking. Chad compliments Leo on his article but Leo found it boring and says he’s more interested in the juicy stuff like Kristen’s prison break and Tony going missing. Chad says if he knew something, he would share it. Leo tells him that he is sorry all this family stuff is getting thrown at him at once, but he knows Chad comes back ten times stronger from whatever life throws at him.

Cat is in the park when someone approaches and tries to grab her purse but she catches them.

Chad thanks Leo for the encouragement. Leo then sees that Chad has the dating app open on his phone and questions if he’s back on the market. Chad explains that he thought it would get Cat out of his system and show Abigail’s family that he’s trying to move on, adding that it was Gabi’s idea. Leo complains that Chad’s dating profile is boring and says he will be the love doctor to fix it.

EJ thanks Roman for the hospitality and Roman walks him out of the Pub right as Johnny is walking by with baby Trey.

Abe’s tutor student Liam is the one who tried to grab Cat’s purse. Cat warns him to stay down but he gets up and tries to run away right as Abe appears and questions what the hell is going on.

Leo tells Chad that he needs a profile that sets him apart. Chad says that what Leo writes isn’t true. Leo says it doesn’t have to be, it just has to grab attention and draw people in. Chad asks what to do for photos. Leo says he should have no problem there and uses that Chad used to teach saxophone to kids. Leo tells Chad that by the time he’s done, his inbox will be bursting at the seams and he will be double booked and triple texting.

Abe checks on Cat who said she’s fine. Liam complains that she nearly pulled his arm out of his socket. Cat points out that Liam tried to steal her purse. Abe asks if that’s the truth and questions why Liam would do this. Liam responds that he’s got a kid to feed and argues that they have no idea how hard it is out there. Liam begs Abe not to turn him in because it would violate his plea deal and he’d be back behind bars. Abe argues that he already violated his plea deal when he stood him up on his last tutoring session. Liam argues that he didn’t even touch Cat’s purse which Cat admits is true, so Abe acknowledges that he didn’t actually commit a crime. Abe warns that Liam got very lucky and to never try anything like this again. Liam gives his word that he won’t. Cat agrees to forget this ever happened.

Paulina and Chanel fold clothes until Paulina notices her yawning and guesses she’s exhausted. Chanel admits she didn’t sleep much last night since Trey was up all night. Chanel says she loves Trey and she’s grateful so she knows she shouldn’t complain. Paulina tells her that she is allowed to.

Shawn sits with Belle as she explains Marlena having an infection and being on antibiotics. Shawn says he hopes she recovers quickly. Belle notes that Eric is in with Marlena now which helps, but he’s leaving soon for a big photoshoot in Paris. Shawn agrees to keep Marlena in his prayers. Belle then tells Shawn that the doctors missed out on a critical window of time with Marlena because a lab error, thanks to EJ, who she calls a cheap son of a bitch.

Johnny asks if Roman is closing the Pub as he was wondering if Trey’s favorite pacifier was in there. Roman says he didn’t see one but he will keep an eye out. EJ suggests they all go in and look but Roman suggests EJ go on home. Roman tells Johnny that he’s welcome to come look but Johnny thinks he should keep moving. Roman says he has to finish closing up but the door is open if changes his mind. Roman then heads back in to the Pub. EJ stops Johnny and asks if he can have a look at the baby.

Javi joins Leo in their room where Leo is working on an article titled “Where Have the DiMeras Gone?”. Leo talks about Kristen and Tony missing and wonders if he could make a trip to Greece but Javi says that would be in his dreams. Leo complains about Rafe not getting back with him. Javi encourages Leo to calm down and relax. Leo says he doesn’t have time when there is a ton of tea to spill. Javi then kisses Leo to convince him to take a break.

Abe suggests Cat to get checked out. Cat says she works at the hospital, so if it bothers her in the morning, she will get checked out but she’ll just get some ice on the way home. Cat thanks Abe. Abe is glad he could be there on his evening stroll. Abe then has Liam apologize to Cat and he thank her for keeping it low key. Cat responds that she has a family too and she’s done things on their behalf that she’s not proud of. Cat tells Liam to make better choices in the future and that he’s lucky to have a good man like Abe in his life as she then walks away. Liam says he’s heading out too but Abe stops him and says not so fast.

Chanel tells Paulina that she cannot believe she has to be up in four hours to open the Bakery. Paulina asks if she ever considered taking maternity leave, pointing out that women in Scandinavia took a whole year to just be a mom. Chanel says too bad they don’t live there and points out that she didn’t actually give birth. Paulina encourages that she’s still a mom and it’s a lot of work, so she deserves time off. Chanel argues that she owns her own business and can’t just walk away from it. Paulina insists that Chanel’s workers can handle it or she can hire someone else to help. Chanel points out that would mean paying someone more. Paulina tells her to lean on her more for extra cash if she needs to. Chanel thanks her for the offer but talks about Paulina building her own empire from nothing, so she’s going to make her own way too. Paulina says that Chanel is adjusting to being a mom and raising her family which should be her first priority. Paulina adds that the Bakery is not going anywhere, so she has to take care of herself first.

Johnny tells EJ that he doesn’t know. EJ understands why he wasn’t at the baby shower but says it would do his heart good to see the baby’s face in person. Johnny points out that he’s asleep so he decides it’s fine for EJ to take a peek. EJ thanks Johnny and says he has no idea how much this means to him. EJ then looks in on Trey.

Belle tells Shawn that everyone was right that she never should’ve gotten involved with EJ. Shawn encourages that’s in the past and she’s closed that chapter. Belle feels like such a fool. Shawn says she just believes the best in people which is a strength. Belle decides that’s enough about her and asks about Shawn. Shawn says he’s just staying busy. Shawn adds that he started playing in a pickup basketball league. Belle says she hasn’t seen him play since high school. Belle asks how he enjoyed the gala. Shawn thought it went well and had a good crowd with a lot of history on display. Shawn adds that it was great to see his family. Belle asks if he ran in to Sami. Shawn confirms he did and they spoke briefly. Belle is surprised she didn’t tell him all about her breakup with EJ. Belle doesn’t know when she’s going to stop falling for guys who are totally wrong for her, then quickly apologizes. Shawn promises that someday she will find somebody who will treat her the way she deserves to be treated. Shawn says he’s just sorry that someone isn’t him. Belle says that he was and they just didn’t last forever. Belle acknowledges that they loved each other for a long time and made a beautiful child together, so she is grateful for all of it. Shawn admits he is too. Shawn tells Belle that he’s rooting for her.

Leo tells Javi that the only perk of not having a baby in the room is that they get to be together. Javi agrees they get to do this all night long as they kiss.

Chad remains in the town square where he runs in to Cat, who is icing her hand. Chad asks what happened. Cat tells him that some punk tried to steal her purse. Chad is shocked and asks if she called the police. Cat assures that she and her purse are fine so there was no need. Cat says she should get going but Chad stops her.

Abe warns Liam that this is his last chance with no more being late, rude, or disrespectful. Abe adds that what Liam attempted to do to Cat went way beyond that. Liam admits he wasn’t thinking straight and he was desperate, but swears that’s not who he is. Abe says he believes him and points out that there are city resources like food banks and job centers, so he doesn’t have to steal. Abe offers Liam some money to take his kid out to eat. Liam responds that he doesn’t want to take a handout but Abe insists, so Liam thanks him.

Chanel tells Paulina that she is trying to take care of herself and she wishes she could call on Johnny for more help but she feels guilty since he’s busy with long hours at Titan and teaching at Salem U. Paulina tells Chanel that when she and her father first started out, he would be working multiple jobs, prepare dinner, and do dishes. Paulina encourages her to carve out time for herself to relax and recharge, suggesting she do that now. Paulina then heads to the kitchen to make her food while Chanel lays down on the couch.

EJ tells Johnny that Trey is very beautiful. Johnny agrees and says now he’s seen him, but assures this doesn’t change anything between them or that EJ will have anything to do with Trey’s life. EJ says that he understands. EJ adds that he did promise to steer clear of Trey in exchange for Amy dropping her complaint about the adoption which surprises Johnny. EJ says he did it because he loves Johnny and now he’s a father himself, so maybe he can see that he would sacrifice anything or do anything for him, just as Johnny would do for John III.

Paulina finishes making food but sees that Chanel has fallen asleep on the couch, so she covers her with a blanket and tells her to get her rest.

EJ understands these things aren’t black and white but remarks that blood is thicker than water, so no matter how Johnny feels about him, he will always be his son and they will always be family. EJ then informs Johnny that his uncle Tony has gone missing which surprises him. EJ calls it quite disturbing as no one has seen Tony since he stepped off his cruise ship last week in Athens. Johnny hopes he’s okay. EJ says he does too and adds that there’s more. EJ then reveals that earlier tonight, Kristen escaped from prison which shocks Johnny. EJ says that it’s presumed Kristen is on the run and authorities are looking for her as they speak. Johnny thanks EJ for letting him know and reminding him how dangerous it is to be a DiMera. EJ points out that Johnny is a DiMera as well. Johnny says they need to go and walks off with Trey.

Chad suggests Cat get her hand looked at. Cat tells him it’s okay and the ice is helping. Cat says it’s really good seeing him, but she can’t be here with him after everything that’s happened. Chad says he knows.

Leo and Javi lay in bed together as Javi asks what Leo is thinking about. Leo responds that for the first time in his life, he feels like part of a family, even with Tesoro gone. Leo feels like he found his person in Javi. Javi responds that he feels the same and calls Leo his everything as they kiss.

Johnny brings Trey home and puts him to sleep which Paulina says is just like Chanel. Paulina guesses the fresh air calmed him down. Johnny agrees it was just what they needed. Paulina tells Johnny to go get some sleep himself. Johnny asks if she’s sure. Paulina assures that she loves taking care of her grandson. Johnny thanks her and heads to the bedroom.

Chad asks Cat if she’s sure she’s okay. Cat says she is and tells him not to worry about her. Cat says goodnight to Chad and walks away. Chad pulls out his phone and goes back to his dating profile.

Shawn asks Belle if she’s seeing anyone now. Belle says she’s not and just putting herself out there. Shawn says the same, so Belle asks how it’s going. Shawn jokes that he could ask her the same thing. Shawn then gets a text about taking a perp into custody. Shawn tells Belle that he has a few minutes so he’s going to say hi to Marlena and Eric. Belle is sure they will be happy to see him. Shawn hugs Belle and then heads to Marlena’s hospital room. Belle then gets an alert on her phone that she matched with Chad on the dating app.

EJ goes home to the DiMera Mansion, looking at a photo of Johnny on his phone as he sits down on the couch. EJ then picks up his copy of Wuthering Heights and opens it up, triggering a flashback to Cat’s voice reading it to him when he was recovering, leaving him confused.

Rafe goes home where Gabi greets him and asks how work was. Rafe informs her that he just got back from prison where Kristen missed bed checks and apparently has escaped again. Gabi questions why he isn’t out looking for her. Rafe says the state are on it and will keep him in the loop. Rafe asks if Gabi went to the gala. Gabi says she decided to donate online to the clinic to avoid the Hortons along with EJ and Sami. Gabi asks if she’s going to see Sami at breakfast tomorrow morning again but Rafe reveals that Sami is already gone.

Roman goes back to the Brady Pub where Lucas asks how Marlena is doing. Roman says she’s much better which Lucas says is great news. Lucas asks if Sami stuck around. Roman says she did not and that she was already on the plane when Eric tried to reach her, so she doesn’t know about Marlena and Lucas is not going to tell her.

Brady is at home, finishing a call with Lani to let him know if she hears from Kristen. Brady hangs up and calls out to Rachel that they will check her homework soon. Xander then arrives and tells Brady that he needs to see Marlena now.

Chad goes to the DiMera Mansion and tells EJ that the police just called and he hopes it’s not true. EJ confirms that it’s true and that the prison grounds were searched with no sign of Kristen. Chad questions Tony vanishing and now Kristen, asking what is going on with this family.

Jada meets Theo at the book store, revealing they matched on a dating app. Jada remarks that she thought for sure he would swipe left. Theo asks why he would do that when she’s extremely attractive, bright, and successful. Theo says he hopes he’s just not out of his league here. Jada suggests they just see where it goes. Theo agrees to relax and get to know each other.

Stephanie goes home to Alex with bags from shopping for her book tour. Stephanie jokes that she has to look like a famous novelist and offers to model some of her new outfits for Alex, which he says he would definitely like. Someone dressed in all black appears in the hall outside their door. Stephanie tells Alex to get ready for a scintillating fashion show, but she gets a call from the mayor’s office. Stephanie answers and says she will send a link to the photos when it’s live. Stephanie hangs up and apologizes to Alex, then gets another call about a photoshoot. Stephanie says it’s perfect timing as she just bought new things for the tour and asks them to hang on while she checks her calendar.

EJ assures Chad that he checked the tunnels and the secret room. EJ says Chad has enough to worry about and asks if Jennifer is still hellbent on the custody battle. Chad says he hasn’t talked to her since she made that threat and hoped she was just upset over Thomas’s accident and would calm down after. EJ says they can hope but if it gets to the point where needs a lawyer or an ally, he’s there for him and ready to fight.

Lucas questions Roman not wanting him to tell Sami that her mother is in the hospital and thinks she has a right to know. Roman clarifies that Marlena would want Sami to hear it from her so she doesn’t come rushing back to Salem to fuss over her. Lucas admits he misunderstood and apologizes. Lucas says even though Sami forgave him for what he did to her, he doesn’t think she wants to hear much of anything from him these days including what he thinks about her fiancee because his name makes him cringe and he hopes her future marriage to a Vitali isn’t another ticking time bomb.

Gabi questions Sami being gone. Rafe informs her that she is off on vacation with her new fiancée. Gabi is surprised to learn Sami is engaged. Rafe then reveals that Sami is engaged to a Vitali. Gabi is shocked and hopes it’s a distant relative from Ava. Rafe says that Sami seemed happy when he saw her at the baby shower. Gabi asks if Rafe is okay. Rafe says he is and that he had no delusions about he and Sami getting back together. Rafe says that he and Sami had great memories and had something special once. Gabi tells Rafe that was in the past, so now he needs to find someone worthy of him. Rafe jokes that’s impossible. Gabi asks if Rafe has ever considered going on a dating app. Rafe says no and that when he finds a woman, it will be the old fashioned way. Gabi says that whoever he meets, it will be her lucky day.

Theo tells Jada that he was surprised she didn’t pass on him after he got in her face about hiring JJ back. Jada acknowledges that Theo made some valid points about racial profiling and that JJ did consider resigning but she did not accept his resignation since he’s a good cop. Jada asks if that ruins their date. Theo says not at all as he respects her decision and it’s her job to keep the police department fully staffed. Jada is glad he understands. Theo suggests they stop talking about work and goes to get them coffee.

Brady informs Xander that Marlena is not at home, she’s at the hospital. Xander questions why she’s at the hospital. Brady tells him that she’s fine so he can go back home. Xander comes in and argues that he’s still his boss and they are family, so he doesn’t know why he’s being so hostile. Brady says maybe it’s because Kristen missed bed check at the prison which Xander questions. Brady tells Xander not to act like it’s news to him as he would know Kristen would want to contact Rachel. Brady questions if Xander is here to do Kristen’s dirty work for her.

Stephanie finishes her call and goes back to her fashion show idea with Alex. Alex suggests waiting until after dinner since he’s a little hungry. Stephanie agrees that the fashion show can wait. Stephanie decides she’ll get takeout and make the order. Stephanie then asks Alex how his day was. Alex says it was lousy actually but Stephanie gets distracted by an alert on her phone, so Alex rambles until she realizes. Stephanie apologizes and asks him not to be mad at her. Stephanie then asks what actually happened with his day.

Roman tells Lucas that he is glad Sami forgave him, even though kidnapping her was beyond stupid. Roman acknowledges that Lucas and Sami have kids and grandkids, so they are in each other’s lives to stay. Lucas vows to do his damndest not to screw things up again. Roman agrees to hold him to that.

Gabi informs Rafe that Javi told her about Tony missing and asks what else Rafe knows. Rafe reminds her that he can’t talk about an ongoing investigation. Gabi says she thought there would be an investigation and asks if Rafe thinks it’s a coincidence that Kristen and Tony are both missing at the same time. Rafe responds that he’ll just say the DiMeras are keeping him very busy these days.

EJ tells Chad that he will take care of things and that he should get some sleep. EJ invites Chad to stay at the mansion for the night if he wants to stay away from the Deverauxs. Chad decides he will head home since Thomas and Charlotte are there, so everyone should be on their best behavior mostly. Chad tells EJ to let him know if he hears anything about Tony or Kristen and says he’ll be the first to know if anything changes on his end. Chad then exits the mansion.

Theo thanks Jada for meeting him so late. Jada acknowledges that Theo probably had a busy day and worrisome after Tony went missing and now Kristen. Theo questions what she means, so Jada realizes he hasn’t heard that Kristen escaped from prison. Theo assures that he hasn’t heard from Kristen and says he thought she didn’t want to talk about work. Theo asks if that was just her plan to throw him off and suggests that she only agreed to come out with him in order to interrogate him about his family, leaving Jada confused.

Xander tells Brady that he’s not his enemy, he’s his boss and his family. Xander says he didn’t even know about Kristen and doesn’t give a rat’s ass about her. Xander says he’s here to see Marlena, not go after Rachel. Brady asks if it’s that far fetched, reminding Xander that he did kidnap Rachel. Xander calls that ancient history. Brady remarks that Xander screwing up people’s lives is not history, bringing up what he did to him and Philip. Xander question what he did to Philip but Brady tells him to cut the crap as Sarah told him everything. Brady asks if Xander is going to plot his revenge against Sarah for sharing his big secret with him. Xander responds the old Xander would’ve given him Hell and fought back, but he’s not that Xander anymore. Xander states that he’s been working very hard to be a better man and he would never hurt Sarah as she’s the love of his life. Xander vows to win Sarah back.

EJ goes to the Brady Pub where Lucas greets him and sarcastically compliments his speech. EJ turns around as Rafe enters the Pub, causing EJ to remark that he’s surrounded. Lucas jokes that it’s the annual meeting of the Sami Brady ex-husbands club.

Chad sits alone in the town square as Gabi walks by and greets him. Chad asks how she is. Gabi says she’s good and asks if he saw Will while he was in town. Chad confirms they got some beers and it was good to see him. Gabi says she will leave him to it but Chad invites her to stay and offers to buy her a drink.

Jada tells Theo that wanting to go out with him had nothing to do with wanting to interrogate him about anything. Jada adds that they made the date before she even knew Kristen escaped. Theo admits he overreacted and suggests finding something else to talk about. Jada says it’s funny that they know a lot of the same people but hardly know anything about each other. Theo asks what she likes to do in her spare time. Jada says she likes to read, hike, and loves going to the movies. Theo says all the same and that reading is his favorite pastime. Jada asks what he was reading when she got there. Theo tells her that he was reading Dutch Defence about chess moves. Theo asks if Jada plays chess.

Alex tells Stephanie that Xander and Maggie are convinced they can save Titan but using the Kiriakis Mansion as collateral is certainly risk. Stephanie asks what this means for him. Alex says he’s not sure but reveals that a rival publishing company did reach out to try and poach him this morning. Stephanie calls that big and asks if Alex would really consider leaving the family company. The person wearing all black outside of Stephanie and Alex’s apartment intercepts their takeout order and pours something in to Alex’s drink.

Rafe sits with Lucas while EJ sits at the bar and comments on Sami being on a flight back to her true love. Rafe suggests not getting in to some juvenile rivalry and thinks they can all say they were Sami’s one true love at one point. Lucas feels Ava’s cousin has to be bad news. Rafe responds that he passed his background check with flying colors which EJ laughs at. Rafe insists that Dante is clean but EJ thinks he should look harder. Lucas encourages Rafe not to let EJ get to him. Lucas brings up that Sami came to town, tracked them all down, and makes them all believe she’s moved on just days after supposedly getting engaged to a billionaire. EJ asks what he means. Lucas asks what if it’s just a ruse to get under their skin.

Chad tells Gabi about Jennifer threatening to take his kids away. Chad says not to feel bad for him as he’s just worried about the kids. Gabi questions what Jennifer is thinking. Chad says she thinks he’s a bad dad and that he’s tried to walk away from Cat but he can’t when she’s having a hard time. Chad admits he still cares about Cat but wishes he could just make his feelings go away. Gabi says they know feelings have a will of their own so it’s not that easy. Gabi thinks she has an idea.

Theo reveals he carries around a chess board in his backpack and begins to show Jada how to play.

Brady questions Xander planning to win Sarah back by becoming a better person and says that sounds familiar. Xander insists it’s different this time as Marlena has been helping him a lot. Brady agrees that Marlena is the best, but in his experience, some people can’t be helped and keep screwing up royally every time while hurting the people they love the most. Xander responds that he’s no longer one of those people because he’s reached a turning point and he’s determined to become the kind of man that his daughter can be proud of and that Sarah would want to spend her life with. Brady asks what if it’s too late and that Sarah doesn’t give a damn how determined he is.

Alex tells Stephanie that he told the rival publishing company that he’s not interested because he’s loyal to Titan. Stephanie says she admires that, then they get interrupted by Stephanie getting another phone alert but this time it’s that their food has arrived so Stephanie brings it in from the door. Alex takes a drink and notes that it tastes a little weird, so he decides he will stick with water. Alex asks Stephanie if they can talk about them for a second. Alex brings up her book tour and reveals that sales aren’t exactly where they need to be. Stephanie says she knows they were counting on Write Out to be a best seller. Alex says they just need a bigger push but he hates to put more on her plate with more work and traveling. Alex says he will really miss her. Stephanie says she will miss him too, so she asks him to come with her.

Rafe assures that Sami’s engagement is not a plot as she’s not that impulsive anymore as she’s older, more mature, and wiser. Rafe says they just have to accept that Sami is in love with some Italian dude and they are not the center of her universe anymore. Lucas says that’s too bad. EJ questions if Lucas is still pining after Sami. Lucas remarks that Sami is the one that got away. Rafe feels the same for him.

Chad asks what Gabi’s idea is. Gabi says he obviously needs to get his mind off Cat, so she suggests getting it on someone else. Gabi clarifies that she doesn’t mean herself since she’s kind of seeing someone. Chad asks who then. Gabi tells Chad about the new popular dating app Salem Singles that’s all over social media. Gabi suggests he put himself out there as he never knows what might happen.

Jada asks Theo who taught him to play chess. Theo says it was his Grandfather. Jada says he seems like a virtuoso while Theo says he’s still working on improving his skills. Jada says that her dad’s game was poker. Theo brings up Jada’s dad being a doctor and says his mom was too, but she died when he was young. Jada says her dad died awhile ago too and sometimes it feels like she’s waiting for him to come back and give her advice. Theo says he loves poker, so he offers to play with her if she’s interested. Jada says she is and suggests next time as they both hope for a second date.

Xander questions if Sarah is confiding in Brady these days and pouring her heart out about how much he hurt her. Brady confirms that it’s confiding which means he doesn’t tell him what she tells him. Xander comments on Brady spending a lot of time with Sarah lately which Brady confirms. Brady argues that Sarah has been through Hell and needs a friend. Xander accuses Brady of wanting to be more than friends and asks how he didn’t see this before.

Roman comes over to Rafe, Lucas, and EJ to ask what’s going on here. EJ says they were just discussing the one thing they all have in common. Roman questions if they are going to trash Sami. Lucas and Rafe say they would never do that. Rafe and Lucas then toast to Sami as the one that got away. Roman agrees and hopes they see Sami again soon. Lucas and Rafe then decide to leave the Pub. EJ makes his own quiet toast to Sami as he takes a drink.

Chad tells Gabi that he doesn’t think he’s ready for dating with everything going on at home. Gabi encourages that it would help him get over Cat and it wouldn’t hurt Jennifer to see him trying to move on. Chad admits she may have a point. Gabi feels she definitely does. Gabi says she’s heading home and thanks Chad for the drink. Gabi recommends he download Salem Singles as she walks away. Chad then pulls up the dating app on his phone.

Theo and Jada both say they had a really good time. Theo offers a handshake but Jada kisses him on the cheek and says goodnight as she exits.

Brady remarks that he thought Xander had his anger under control. Xander says not when he tells him that he’s going after his wife. Brady says that’s soon to be ex-wife, but clarifies that he’s not going after her and they are just friends. Brady tells Xander to get out now. Xander asks Brady to tell Marlena that he hopes she’s feeling better, but tells Brady that he can go to Hell. Brady argues that Xander lost everything because he couldn’t control his temper and he obviously still can’t. Brady tells Xander that if he really loves Sarah, he should do her a favor and let her go. Xander then storms out.

Alex tells Stephanie that he will join her whenever he can. Stephanie reminds him that he was promised a fashion show. Alex jokes that he’ll really enjoy the part of her undressing. Stephanie suggests they can both undress. Alex says that works for him as they kiss.

The person dressed in all black walks to the park and pulls out their phone to look at a flyer for Stephanie’s upcoming book tour.

Belle paces at the hospital with Eric, saying she hates the waiting and wishing they could know something. Eric encourages that Marlena is in good hands and he’s sure Sarah will let them know if anything changes. Eric checks on Sami’s flight and says it’s still in the air. Belle hopes by the time it lands, they’ll have some news about Marlena.

Sarah checks on Marlena in her hospital room. Marlena is sorry to have missed the rest of the gala, especially the part honoring Tom. Sarah is sure she’ll see loads of photos and videos. Sarah asks how she is feeling. Marlena admits she’s scared.

Brady and Rachel sit together at the Brady Pub. Rachel says she’s not hungry because she’s too worried about Marlena. EJ arrives and asks for a moment to speak in private with Brady.

In the DiMera Crypt, Tony unties Kristen and says whoever tied her up did a damn good job. Kristen thanks Tony as they hug and Tony questions who did this to her. Kristen responds that she has no clue as someone jumped her from behind in the prison yard and she ended up stuck here with him. Tony says at least they are together. Kristen asks what his story is. Tony responds that he was in Athens when he was accosted from behind and he must have been drugged too as he woke up here days later. Tony worries that Anna must be frantic. Kristen jokes that Anna could think Tony bailed on her and she could be rebounding with some Greek God while they rot in the family tomb.

Gabi goes home where Javi is cooking tacos. Javi says it will just be them tonight, then suggests inviting Arianna and Holly. Gabi says that Arianna is busy at the gala tonight and asks about Rafe and Leo. Javi says that Rafe is working while Leo is busy covering a late breaking story on how Tony mysteriously disappeared after reclaiming the company they both used to work for.

Tony assures Kristen that Anna only has eyes for him. Tony brings up how when he was presumed dead years ago, Anna waited for his return. Kristen complains about being kidnapped while Tony brings up that Kristen would kidnap others with no remorse. Kristen argues that it’s different being on the other end and in the crypt. Kristen questions who would drag her all the way from prison and transport Tony all the way from Greece. Tony says whoever it was has to be resourceful. Kristen says she knows a highly resourceful person who would definitely benefit from having them out of the way.

EJ informs Brady that it appears Kristen has escaped from prison but it’s being kept under the wraps until they can confirm it was a prison break as the guards are still searching. EJ adds that the warden seems to think Kristen may reach out to Rachel and he did his best to diffuse that but figured he should check in. Brady says he understands and goes back to Rachel, who asks what’s going on. Brady asks Rachel if she has heard from her mom. Rachel says she hasn’t and asks why. Rachel says she knows his look and guesses something bad has happened to Kristen. Rachel pleads with Brady to tell her, arguing that she’s old enough to know the truth. Brady then informs her that Kristen may have escaped from prison.

Sarah asks if Marlena is scared because of something she’s feeling right now. Marlena responds that scared was the wrong word as she’s more worried and talks about the medication she’s taking. Marlena jokes about doctors making the worst patients which Sarah relates to. Sarah thinks the uncertainty is making Marlena anxious as she wants to know what’s causing these problems. Sarah promises that they are going to find out. Sarah takes Marlena’s hand and then questions how long she has had this rash.

Rachel questions Kristen escaping. Brady clarifies that they don’t know for sure. Rachel worries about how she sees it in movies and that they are going to hurt her. Brady tells EJ that he can take it from here. EJ tells Brady that he’ll let him know if he hears anything. Rachel complains that EJ doesn’t care about Kristen and is just a spy for the warden as he exits the Pub. Rachel then asks if Brady thinks Kristen escaped because he wouldn’t let her visit and if she’s doing this so she can see her. Brady tells Rachel that it’s not confirmed that Kristen escaped from prison but feels she wouldn’t risk coming to see Rachel. Rachel argues that Kristen has done stuff like that before. Brady points out that Kristen likely knows that this is the first place the police would look for her. Rachel asks if he’s saying that Kristen is probably far away from here by now.

Tony asks Kristen why EJ would want him out of the way when she’s the one who shot him and he’s never done anything to harm him. Kristen argues that Tony put Theo in charge of DiMera and EJ believed he was Stefano’s heir apparent. Kristen says at one point or another, Stefano led them all to believe they were the chosen one and feels that’s why they are so screwed up. Kristen says that Stefano pitted them against each other like pawns in chess and that EJ has been determined to be the last DiMera standing. Tony argues that may have once been the case but EJ assured him that he wanted nothing to do with DiMera Enterprises and was perfectly content running the hospital. Kristen argues that EJ was likely just biding his time with the hospital until he could make his move on the company. Kristen adds that Tony passed over Johnny as successor when he gave the reins to Theo. Tony brings up that EJ did suggest Johnny to head the company more than once. Kristen wouldn’t be surprised if Theo is the next DiMera to be tossed in here.

Gabi tells Javi that Tony didn’t mysteriously disappear as Theo said he just missed the boat. Javi informs her that according to Leo’s sources, Tony never showed up at the next port, so he is legit missing like a true crime docuseries.

Marlena tells Sarah that she thought she just had hives from stress. Sarah reveals that she thinks Marlena has Lyme carditis. Marlena argues that she was tested for Lyme disease. Sarah confirms that all her tests didn’t show anything impacting her heart. Marlena points out that now she’s in a hospital with AFib. Sarah guesses it could be something else but she can’t think of anything else that would cause the symptoms she’s having like Lyme disease does.

Eric sits with Belle and asks what she wants to talk about to distract them while they wait to hear about Marlena. Belle suggests Sami being engaged to a mob prince. Eric argues that being Ava Vitali’s cousin doesn’t make him a mob prince. Belle feels if Sami is involved with him, he’s a disaster waiting to happen. Eric thinks therapy helped Sami figure out her issues. Eric adds that Will has met Dante and likes him. Belle guesses anyone is an improvement over EJ. Sarah comes out so Belle asks how Marlena is. Sarah informs them that Marlena has carditis, inflammation of the heart, causing her to go in to AFib. Belle asks if that’s causing all her other symptoms. Sarah says they are still working to find an underlying cause but the picture fits for Lyme disease, so she is going to run the test again. Eric asks how long before they get results. Sarah says it could be awhile as the turnaround time in the lab is abysmal thanks to EJ’s budget cuts and being short-staffed. Belle assumes that could also affect accuracy which Sarah confirms could be possible. They then see EJ arriving at the hospital.

Tony tells Kristen that she’s being ridiculous, arguing that EJ would never lay a hand on Theo because he knows Abe would end him for hurting his son. Kristen agrees that he makes valid points. Tony adds that EJ has no reason to throw them in a crypt either, except Kristen did try to kill him but asks who hasn’t. Tony points out that Kristen was already sentenced to six years in prison and EJ would agree that was punishment enough. Kristen thinks back to telling Marlena to make sure that no one finds out the truth that she lied to the judge. Kristen remarks that EJ was just fine with her going to prison.

Rachel asks Brady if Kristen is somewhere hiding out like that time she was in the convent with Lani. Brady says he doesn’t know, but he knows Kristen always has a plan. Brady adds that it may take time, but her plan will always include finding her way back to Rachel.

Belle questions if Sarah is saying that Marlena could’ve got a false negative Lyme disease test because of the hospital cutting corners and that’s what is causing these complications. Sarah says not to get ahead of themselves, but admits that a delay in diagnosis could have caused things. EJ comes over so Belle tells him that he’s unbelievable. EJ sarcastically asks what he’s done this time. Belle questions him thinking this is funny. EJ responds that he has no idea what this is. Belle swears that if EJ is responsible, she will use all her power as district attorney to hold and the hospital criminally negligent. Belle then storms off. EJ asks if anyone would like to tell him what she was banging on about.

Kristen asks Tony who the hell was behind this if it wasn’t EJ and what the hell they want. Tony says he would say if he knew. Kristen complains that it will take her to the dawn of the new millenium to list all the people who have it out for her. Kristen questions if Tony has any enemies that would benefit from him being taken out of rotation or if anyone threatened him. Tony flashes back to Gabi yelling at him and says actually he can.

Gabi tells Javi that she can’t believe that Tony literally vanished off the face of the earth. Javi is trying to figure out if she’s actually surprised to learn something happened to Tony or if she’s putting on a show for him.

Belle goes in to visit Marlena in her hospital room where she is asleep. Belle prays that she just lost her dad, so her mom has to be okay.

Gabi asks Javi why she would be faking concern about Tony. Javi suggests maybe she knows more than she’s letting on. Gabi asks if he thinks she had something to do with Tony’s disappearance. Javi points out that Gabi seemed pretty pissed when Tony threw her over for Theo as head of DiMera. Gabi says that’s the last time she confides in him. Javi argues that she does have a strong motive and it could make the perfect opportunity to make a play as CEO. Gabi argues that Rafe is the one who works for the FBI and complains that she’s once again being accused of a felony in her own kitchen. Gabi says it was bad enough when JJ and Leo did it with EJ’s shooting, but now her own cousin is accusing her of being a kidnapper.

Roman tells Brady and Rachel that he just got off the phone with Eric and he says that Marlena is stable which Brady says is great news. Roman offers to keep an eye on Rachel if Brady wants go to the hospital. Rachel decides she wants to go see Marlena too. Brady suggests they all go together. Roman says he wouldn’t want to impose. Brady says he wouldn’t be and he’s sure Eric would like to lean on him as well, unless he can’t get away from the Pub. Roman decides to find someone to cover and agrees to meet them at the hospital. Brady says that sounds great. Roman thanks Brady for including him and says it means a lot. Brady says that’s what family is for.

Marlena wakes up with Belle at her side. Marlena notices that Belle has been crying. Belle says she’s just been so worried about her. Marlena insists she will be alright and suggests they comfort each other. Marlena asks what’s going on outside the room. Belle says everyone is thinking about her as Sarah said it’s her heart. Marlena admits she was so worried that it was in her mind because of all the loss and grief, so it’s good to know that she has something she can survive and they can treat.

Javi says he’s an idiot and doesn’t know what he was thinking as the thought occurred to him for a split second, but he apologizes for doubting her. Gabi says she’s sorry too as she knows his job is important and she’s sorry she said what she said. Javi says he was just worried about Gabi being in trouble and jumped to conclusions. Javi cries that after losing Tesoro, he can’t bear the thought of losing anyone else.

EJ questions what test was supposedly mismanaged. Sarah responds that her patient gave her permission to discuss her tests with her children, not him. EJ argues that he owns the hospital while Sarah argues that doesn’t mean she will violate HIPPA. EJ says she should’ve thought of that before discussing the hospital’s finances with people completely out of the matter. Eric argues that Sarah is just doing her job and Marlena is sick. EJ wonders what Nicole would say about Eric passionately defending his ex. Eric warns EJ to keep Nicole’s name out of his mouth. Eric adds that if he finds out that Marlena’s illness is EJ’s fault, he will pay. EJ calls that hollow threats and a laugh coming from Eric. Eric calls EJ still a son of a bitch who will pay for his sins. EJ thought he left eternal judgment to the man upstairs as he then walks away. Sarah tells Eric that she’s sorry about that. Eric says it’s not the first time he’s been caught up in EJ’s mind games. Sarah asks if he has any other questions she can answer about Marlena. Eric says she explained everything very well and to let him know if anything changes. Eric thanks Sarah for everything she’s done for Marlena, Brady, and Rachel. Sarah calls it her job and says Eric of all people know that she will always care about Rachel. Eric mentions hearing about her and Xander splitting up and he’s really sorry. Sarah says it was for the best as she never should’ve got involved with him in the first place. Sarah remarks that Xander might be even worse than EJ which Eric knows well since he tried to kill him. Eric responds that he really thought Xander would change this time for Sarah and their daughter.

Javi cries to Gabi about thinking he heard Tesoro on the baby monitor and rushing in to check on him. Gabi understands how hard it’s been since he and Leo were like his dads. Gabi jokes that she never thought she’d see the day that Leo Stark cared about another human so selflessly, but she knows Leo has turned over a new leaf and that Javi and Tesoro brought out the best in him. Gabi points out that Leo is the one who accused her of shooting EJ and she’s thankful that Kristen confessed or else she might have gone to prison for another crime she didn’t commit. Javi then reveals to Gabi that Leo isn’t sure that Kristen is the one who actually shot EJ.

Kristen tries banging on the door to the crypt and asking if anyone is out there. Tony tells her to save her breath as they can’t hear her. Kristen complains that there has to be a way out. Tony says he’s searched the whole place and there is no way out. Kristen points out that Stefano is not there among the dead DiMeras. Tony asks if she just noticed the empty sarcophagus is gone. Kristen says with everything going on, she did not register that and questions where Stefano is. Tony guesses whoever put them in here must have taken him out. Kristen calls it crazy that she still feels Stefano’s presence with them now. Tony jokes that she sounds like Susan Banks. Kristen says it’s bad enough people think she looks like her. Tony says there is a resemblance. Kristen asks if Tony doesn’t feel Stefano hovering around somewhere.

Eric joins Belle in Marlena’s hospital room. Marlena says she’s better now that they are both here. Belle asks if they can get her anything. Marlena says she’s just happy to be with them both. Marlena tells Eric that she’s sorry this is not what he expected from his trip home. Eric says he’s just happy to be there when she needed him and he always will be. Roman then joins them in the room as well and asks how Marlena is feeling. Marlena says she’s much better with her whole family here. Roman is glad since she gave them quite a scare at the gala. Roman tells Marlena that he’s there for her anytime she needs. Marlena notes that Eric said the same thing. Belle assures that they all mean it.

Brady brings Rachel to the hospital where Sarah greets them. Rachel asks how Marlena is. Sarah says they are taking very good care of her and she’s on all the right medicines. Rachel thanks her and asks if she can go to the vending machine. Brady tells her not to stay long or get too much and come right back. Brady thanks Sarah for the news about Marlena because they needed to hear it, especially after it appears that Kristen may have escaped from prison. Sarah is shocked and asks if Rachel knows. Brady confirms that she does and she’s doing a good job of hiding how upset she is. Brady says he’s kicking himself for not letting Rachel see Kristen after she convinced Thomas to try to take out Cat. Sarah calls him a good dad who did what he had to do. Sarah says she’s sorry that Kristen is putting them through this and wishes she could help. Brady says Sarah being there for them is more than he can ask. Sarah assures that she’ll always be there for them as they are very important to her. Brady says she is to them too as they hug. Rachel then comes back and sees them hugging.

Javi tells Gabi that Leo always thought something was off about Kristen’s sudden confession and apparently EJ lost it on Leo when he suggested that Kristen was innocent. Gabi argues that Leo better not put her back in the crosshairs. Javi assures that Leo doesn’t think Gabi was the culprit. Gabi asks who then if not her. Javi says he has no clue.

Kristen tells Tony that she hopes their siblings are looking for them but there’s also some that are accounted for. Tony comments on no one hearing from Stefan or Dimitri. Kristen brings up Dimitri’s mother being presumed dead for four decades and facing life in prison if she did come back. Kristen thinks she would send a cryptic text or e-mail if she was still alive. Kristen suggests maybe they are all being held as equally soul killing and grim. Tony remarks that stranger things have happened to their family. Kristen declares that she is not going to stay in here a second longer and she will figure out a way, even if she has to dig her way out.

EJ goes to the lab in the clinic and declares their family reunion is long overdue.

At the gala in the town square where the Hortons have now gathered, EJ announces to everyone that Marlena suffered a medical emergency but she is now okay and resting comfortably at the hospital with the best care. EJ tells everyone to enjoy the rest of the gala and says their program will resume shortly. Kayla returns and tells Steve and Sarah that Marlena is stable and she will check on her after the gala. Sarah wants to go with her, feeling responsible as she should’ve been able to diagnose Marlena by now. Kayla encourages that Sarah ran every test she could but Sarah feels she obviously missed something. Maggie and Marie sit together as Marie comments on Holly filming more interviews and footage. Maggie says she wanted to make sure they had enough for their project even if Tate had to go to the hospital to be with Marlena. Marie comments that Holly looks like she has good character and calls it refreshing to see young people interested in stories about the good old days. Julie talks with Mike and her brother Steven about being so glad they could make it. Steven notices Julie is wearing Alice’s necklace. Julie talks about having it locked up since getting it back but decided to bring it out tonight. Steven says it looks stunning on her while Julie tells him how sorry she is that she ever thought he stole it. Julie still can’t believe Doug’s grandson was the real culprit. Steven asks if she’s heard from Doug III since he left town. Julie says no, but he did repay the money she lent him to repay his debt and since then, it’s been radio silence. Mike then reveals that he knows someone that Doug III has spoken with. Jack surprises Jennifer at her table with sparkling cider and says he just got in. Jennifer tells him that he’s just in time. Jack tells Jennifer that this is the big night for Jennifer and the Hortons as a culmination of all of her hard work. Jack questions why it seems like she isn’t enjoying it. Jennifer says she’s trying, but she can’t stop thinking about Thomas getting hit by a car. Jack knows it must have been terrifying but says thank God he’s okay. Jennifer says he is for now, but she’s not worried about his physical health as she knows Chad would not deliberately put his children in harm’s way, but argues that the more he’s around Cat, the more he’s hurting his children. Jennifer thinks they need to take Thomas and Charlotte to Boston and she hopes that Abigail would be okay with that. Jack says that Abigail would do anything to protect her children. Jennifer asks if he believes Abigail would agree with him. Jack agrees that he thinks Abigail would find it unacceptable to have Thomas and Charlotte in Cat’s orbit, so he also thinks she’d want them as far removed from her as possible. Eli tells EJ that this is a special night for his family, but after the gala, he’d like to speak with him about multiple missing persons cases involving EJ’s family. Eli states to EJ that his brothers Tony and Stefan and his nephew Dimitri have all vanished. EJ comments that the disappearances are all very disturbing. Eli wonders if they are all connected. EJ says as far as he knows, Stefan and Dimitri left on their own, so his focus is on finding Tony and believes it should be their focus as well as he walks away. Julie asks Mike if he’s been in touch with Doug III. Mike says he hasn’t but Robin has heard from him. Julie mentions forgetting they are related. Mike thinks Doug III is ashamed of what he did while Steven encourages that he will reach out when he’s ready. Mike asks Julie if Jeremy is showing her gratitude for her hospitality. Julie assures that he is. Mike says it means a lot to him that Julie has taken Jeremy in despite his past terrible decisions. Julie says they could say that about a lot of Hortons. Mike feels Julie gave Jeremy a safe place to land, so he hopes that he can find his way again. Sarah comments to Maggie that it’s been a wonderful evening. Maggie notes Sarah seems distracted. Sarah admits she’s worried about Marlena, so she’s going to check on her after the gala. Maggie suspects that’s not the only thing on her mind and asks if Xander has responded to her divorce decree. Sarah states that he hasn’t. Maggie is sure it will go smoothly, mentioning that she spoke to Xander the other day. Sarah asks what he said. Maggie says that Xander was devastated obviously to lose them but implied that he will not fight her on it. Maggie encourages Sarah to unburden herself tonight as it’s good news and she should be relieved which Sarah agrees with.

EJ comments to Kayla that the gala is a resounding success so far. Kayla brings up not being a fan when EJ took over the hospital and being skeptical of his motivation behind his work on the clinic, but now she sees that he made it happen. Kayla declares that whatever EJ’s motives are, he did something good today. Julie greets Eli and asks where Lani is. Eli says she’s grabbing drinks and calls this a wonderful celebration. Julie says the crowd brings back wonderful memories for her and sad ones. Julie talks about thinking of Doug a lot today and how David lives on in Eli. Eli wishes he was able to meet more of the Hortons, especially Tom. Eli adds that Jennifer’s article makes him feel like he did know him. Julie encourages Eli to take all the stories and the pictures home to his twins and to then send her pictures of the twins. Eli assures that the twins know the Horton family and Salem will always have a special place in their hearts as they hug. Lucas arrives and greets Mike. Jennifer comes over and hugs them. Mike praises Jennifer’s article on Tom. Steve sits with Jack and tells him that tonight is bringing back memories of when he got patched up at the hospital. Jack says him too and there’s one that stands out to him. Jack acknowledges that Steve saved his life and gave him a second chance by donating his kidney. Steve calls it a gift to him to be able to help Jack. Jack says it meant more to him than he could ever say. Jack says because of his amazing sacrifice, he’ll always have a piece of Steve with him and of Adrienne since she brought them together. They talk about missing Adrienne as Jack says she will always be with them. Lucas tells Jennifer that he heard about what’s going on with Thomas and Charlotte and that he’s always on her team. Lucas talks about thinking he was doing the right thing in his custody battle over Will but realizing he was doing more harm. Lucas hopes her situation with Thomas and Charlotte turns out better than his did. Julie sits with Maggie and brings up that on this date, Maggie married Victor. Maggie says she was just thinking about their many memories. Maggie adds she was also thinking about the mess that Titan has become. Julie asks what’s going on with Titan. Maggie informs her that they had to put up the Kiriakis Estate as collateral, so if they don’t save the company, they could lose everything. Julie encourages turning the company around, arguing that Maggie has more business acumen than Xander and Philip. Julie toasts to Maggie coming a long way. EJ calls for everyone’s attention to announce they are about to begin the next portion of tonight’s festivities. As EJ speaks, Paulina and Abe arrive. Paulina gets a call and questions how that happened. Paulina says to keep her up to date and hangs up. Abe asks if there’s trouble. Paulina says yes, but she’ll tell him after the gala.

EJ welcomes Sarah to the stage for a speech. Sarah talks about growing up with Tom as her Grandfather. Sarah hopes she can offer her patients a fraction of the guidance and wisdom that Tom gave, noting that she strives to follow his example every day. Mike takes the podium next and talks about Tom inspiring many of them to become doctors. Mike talks about feeling Tom’s influence when he became chief of staff. Mike reveals the silver pen he received years ago and how he’s always kept it with him to keep Tom in his heart. Kayla takes the podium and talks about being proud to follow Tom Horton as chief of staff. Kayla talks about Tom always being there to give advice, encouragement, and comfort. Everyone applauds as she finishes. EJ thanks the wonderful team at the hospital for keeping alive the spirit of Dr. Tom Horton. EJ says he’s very proud to open this clinic in Tom’s name that is free to all as he can think of no better way to honor Tom’s legacy. Paulina comes to the podium and talks about Tom’s legacy and his impact. EJ sits with Abe and comments that Paulina is giving a wonderful speech. Abe agrees but says they need to talk as he hopes EJ has made progress on what they discussed earlier. EJ assures that he has not forgotten.

Marie goes to the podium and talks about being the daughter of Tom Horton. Maggie takes the podium and talks about marrying in to the Horton family. Maggie recalls Alice being so proud of Tom and the hospital, noting Tom’s influence still being felt in the hospital. Julie takes over and talks about how everyone will find a safe haven in the Tom Horton Free Clinic. Jennifer announces that she and Stephanie put together a slideshow to show what a wonderful man Tom was. Maggie and Kayla flash back to giving birth to their daughters. Jennifer mentions all the loved ones they’ve lost, causing her to flash back to Abigail’s funeral. Kayla and Steve think back to Adrienne’s passing. Julie remembers her mother. Jennifer brings up all the miracles they have witnessed and the traditions they’ve kept. Jennifer declares that with the opening of the Dr. Tom Horton Free Clinic, her grandfather’s legacy will continue for all the days of their lives and beyond. Kayla compliments Jennifer’s tribute, which she says she couldn’t have done without Stephanie. Steve brings up when Stephanie was born and can’t believe how many years have gone by. Maggie and Sarah compliment each others’ speeches. Sarah then gets a text that Marlena’s cardiologist needs to see her, so she has to get back to the hospital. Sarah hugs Maggie and says she will keep her posted as she walks away. Julie tells Steven, Mark, and Marie that it was so wonderful having them back and how they should do this more often. Steven jokes that they should start a chain of Tom Horton Free Clinics. Julie comments on Tom’s legacy lasting so long after he was gone.

EJ questions if Eli is leaving so soon. Eli responds that the FBI will be in touch as they are well aware that EJ has his own people searching for Tony in Greece. EJ responds that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to find his brother. Eli says he would ask him to call his search team off, but he knows he won’t, so he asks EJ to keep him in the loop and let him know if he finds anything. EJ agrees that he will be the first to know.

Dr. Rolf is in his lab and declares that he thinks he’s getting close to the breakthrough they have been waiting for.

Paulina hurries over to EJ and reveals that it seems Kristen has escaped from prison.

Kristen is tied up and blindfolded in the DiMera Crypt, wondering where she is until the blindfold is removed and she is surprised to see Tony.

Eric and Sami laugh together at the Pub and talk about how it’s been too long since they were all together. Eric offers to come visit Sami in Italy since it’s not too far from Paris. Sami says she would love that but she can see right through him and guesses that Marlena asked him to come check up on her.

Will and Marlena get dressed for the gala. Marlena tells him that she’s so proud of him and that Tom and John would be proud as well as she hugs Will.

Cat walks to the town square for the gala, carrying her copy of Wuthering Heights which gives her another flashback to reading the book to EJ during his recovery years ago. EJ then walks by, so Cat asks if everything is okay. EJ responds that it turns out that Anna was right to be concerned as Tony is still missing. Cat asks if they have any idea what could’ve happened. EJ says there is none since Tony is the rare DiMera with few enemies, but bets that trying to reclaim Stefano’s empire put a target on his back.

Paul and Andrew get dressed for the gala in their hotel room. Andrew realizes the room is the same room that they spent their honeymoon in. Paul confirms he requested it as soon as he knew they’d be in town. Andrew acknowledges that they are in town to honor Paul’s father while working a case and he still found time for some romance. Paul responds that he learned from the best.

Gwen is in the lab at the free clinic, on the phone questioning their being a problem with the shipment. Gwen says that is unacceptable and the delivery must be made tonight.

Arianna and Holly walk past the Brady Pub in their dresses, talking about their excitement for the gala. Holly hopes she can enjoy it as she and Tate will have to get footage of the whole night for their project. Arianna says that Holly will be with Tate all night so she’ll be mixing work with play. Tate then arrives and comments on how beautiful Holly looks. They kiss, so Arianna decides to leave them to it and walks away as they continue.

EJ talks to Cat about Tony’s disappearance. Cat encourages not jumping to the worst possible conclusion. EJ says normally he would agree, but he just heard back from Interpol and they found Tony’s phone washed up on the beach with tracking turned off. EJ informs Cat that he has hired his own team of investigators because he cannot leave his brother’s fate in the hands of Shane Donovan or Rafe.

Marlena looks at a photo of her and John as Belle walks in wearing her dress for the gala. Marlena comments that she looks lovely. Belle questions Marlena getting ready. Marlena says there’s still time. Belle asks if she’s sure she is up to it.

Eric tells Sami that he’s allowed to worry about her, pointing out that she’s barely told him anything about this new love of her life. Sami brings up how much she worries about him with Nicole which Eric admits he walked in to. Sami complains about her brother falling in love with the woman she hates more than anything on Earth. Eric reminds Sami that she hated John when he and Marlena first got together but eventually came to love him. Sami questions if he’s comparing Nicole to John and asks if he’s lost his mind.

Marlena tells Belle that she wouldn’t miss this for the world and she has to be there. Marlena says she’s more worried about Belle and asks if she will be okay with Sami being there. Belle assures that she doesn’t care what Sami says or does at the gala tonight. Belle promises she won’t engage in any cat fights or shouting matches because tonight is about John.

Sami and Eric exit the Pub and run in to Arianna. Sami hugs her and tells her she’s gorgeous. Eric asks how college is going. Arianna admis that she’s really loving it and that she’s actually learning things unlike in high school. Sami says when she heard Arianna wanted to go to Salem U, she thought it would be perfect. Arianna mentions Holly being her roommate and tells Eric that he just missed Holly and Tate. Eric says he’ll catch up with them at the gala. Sami says they should get going to it. Arianna mentions waiting for Will. Sami says he’s going to be just as proud of her. Will then arrives and jokes they are on the same page for once as he hugs Sami. Will then gets a call from Sonny and answers it as he and Arianna walk off together. Sami comments to Eric that her son and granddaughter are all grown up, asking where the time goes.

Leo is at the hospital, on the phone wtih Chad, telling him to take care of Thomas and not worry as he’s got everything covered. Leo mentions that the gala will give him a chance to check out the clinic while everyone is distracted. Leo then asks Chad if he talked to EJ about not murdering him.

Cat tells EJ that if he needs to focus on Tony, everyone will understand if he needs to skip the dedication. EJ responds that he’s not sure what else he can do from here and that this will be a welcome distraction. EJ then walks off. Cat calls Rafe and tells him that EJ just told her that Tony is still missing. Cat says she acted like it was news to her and admits that if EJ had anything to do with it, he put on a pretty good act because he seemed legitimately worried about his brother. Cat tells Rafe that she will let him know if anything else comes up.

Marlena thanks Belle for agreeing to be civil with Sami tonight. Belle hopes Sami makes the effort too. Belle suggests they get going to the town square but Marlena tells her to go ahead and she’ll meet her there as she would like a little time alone before they honor John. Belle tells her that she loves her and exits. Marlena sits down with a bracelet and flashes back to when John gave it to her.

Cat runs in to Leo at the hospital. Cat questions Leo not being in the town square when the gala is about to start. Kayla comes over and says she was just about to ask the same question. Leo claims he was looking for Cat as he has background questions for his article about the gala. Kayla suggests asking EJ himself and points out that EJ is at the town square so they should get going. Leo asks if Cat is coming too. Cat says that EJ left his speech notes in his office, so she’s going to grab them. Leo then exits with Kayla while Cat heads to the office.

Sami runs in to EJ at the gala in the town square. EJ tells her that she looks smashing. Sami responds that being in love looks good on her. EJ says it’s too bad her fiancée couldn’t join them. Sami agrees and says he’s looking forward to meeting all of her family. EJ guesses that Johnny didn’t decide to accompany her instead. Sami confirms that Johnny and Chanel are staying home with their baby. EJ complains that Johnny would rather miss out on honoring John than endure his presence. Sami responds that Johnny is honoring John by putting his family first and admits that she thinks he gets that from EJ. Brady then arrives with Rachel. They hug Sami. Sami talks about Rachel getting big and tall and how time moves so fast. Tate comes over and takes a photo of them. Tate asks Sami and Brady to come say a few words about the night for their film project. EJ takes Rachel aside and says they have much to discuss. EJ brings up hearing that Rachel has been encouraging Thomas to do some naughty pranks. EJ tells Rachel that Thomas isn’t like them. Rachel questions what that is supposed to mean. EJ tells her that Thomas is more Horton than DiMera and he’d prefer it stay that way. EJ asks if she understands but Brady comes back and tells Rachel that Sami wants to show her some decorations. Brady then gets in EJ’s face and warns him to stay away from his daughter. Paul and Andrew walk through the town square, talking about who would want to take out Tony DiMera. Paul points out it could be someone pissed that Tony put his nephew Theo in charge of the company, noting the company has always been a front for organized crime and there’s no way Theo would let that continue. Andrew talks about Tony always wanting to clean up the family name and image which Paul says is a far cry from EJ, who is following in Stefano’s footsteps. Gwen comes over to EJ and tells him there was an accident on the freeway so their delivery has been delayed. EJ tells Gwen that she will have to handle it herself then and instructs her to go find Rita as the gala is about to start. Gwen tells EJ not to talk to her like one of his minions. EJ then puts his hand on her shoulder and says please, so Gwen walks away. Sami then comes back over to EJ and questions if he’s sleeping with Gwen. EJ asks why Sami would care if he was. Sami then walks off in frustration. Eric and Holly walk by as Eric mentions Nicole’s disappointment that she’s not joining them in Paris. Holly says she misses them but her whole life is here. Eric guesses she means Tate. Holly points out there’s also college, her friends, and Maggie. Eric says he’s happy for her and Tate but notes that it would be the greatest Christmas gift for Nicole if she would join them for the holidays. Holly says that sounds like a plan and agrees to do it as they hug. Belle arrives and Sami is quick to greet her. Belle says she told Marlena that they would stay civil tonight and suggests they steer clear of each other for the rest of the gala. Sami stops her and says she knows how important this night is as they are honoring John. Sami says it’s all about John and not about how Belle hooked up with her ex-husband again. Belle calls that record time and tells Sami to go ahead and throw it in her face that EJ took a wrecking ball to her life just like she said he would. Sami admits she wanted to enjoy it more but she feels terrible for what Belle is going through. Sami declares she’s impressed that Belle woke up to who EJ really is sooner than she did. Belle asks if she’s being sincere right now. Sami says it’s been a lot working through the drama with EJ and Lucas, but now she sees how toxic it really was. Sami says she’s now happily in love and hopes Belle finds that too. Belle calls her transparent and asks if Sami came to the ceremony to flaunt her mystery engagement in her face. Sami remarks that Belle is making it all about her again. Marlena arrives and sees them as Belle walks off and Sami goes after her. Leo and Kayla then arrive to the gala. Leo thanks her for the escort and says he has to go start his interviews, which he assures were cleared by Stephanie. EJ approaches Will and tells him they will soon be paying homage to John. EJ knows he and John didn’t always see eye to eye which Will blames on EJ shooting John. EJ states that he and John had their differences but he always respected him. Will says John didn’t give a damn. EJ says he didn’t either and decides to change the subject to Sami, joking that she’s going to be giving Will yet another stepfather. Will responds that he’s so happy for her because she deserves a chance at a healthy relationship. Will says he went from despising EJ to being his unwitting protégé to tolerating him to thinking of him as family. Will then remarks that if they are being honest, there’s a reason that he and Kristen both put bullets in him as Rachel comes back by. EJ suggest staying away from those kind of topics. Will says that so many things that connect them are distressing, like shooting EJ, especially considering if Lucas didn’t take the fall for him, he’d still be in prison. Rachel looks at them and walks away. Kayla goes over to Marlena and says she’s glad to see her as she asks how she is doing. Marlena responds that she’d be doing a lot better if Belle and Sami would go to their neutral corners. They talk about John and Kayla says that he will always be family. Kayla tells Marlena that she has to go to interview a big donor to the hospital and wonders where Leo went.

Leo sneaks back to the hospital clinic and tries to enter the lab but is caught by Cat, who questions what he’s doing. Leo tells her that he’s relieved it was her and not Rita. Leo says he’s doing more work for his article. Cat points out that his article is on the gala which is in the town square. Leo then tells her that he’s doing another article which is more investigative.

EJ takes to the podium at the gala and calls for everyone’s attention, so they take their seats. EJ begins his speech, thanking everyone for celebrating the Dr. Tom Horton Free Clinic and begins talking about Tom’s history. EJ adds that Tom isn’t the only great man they are celebrating as the hospital recently received a generous donation from the late, great John Black. EJ says that many of John’s family are here and some would like to say a few words. EJ starts by introducing Belle, who takes the podium. Belle talks about being named after John’s late wife Isabella, who was Brady’s mom that passed away when he was a baby. Belle states that John’s donation will allow the hospital to continue funding cancer research. Paul takes the podium and begins talking about John finding out he was his son and welcoming him with open arms. Brady speaks next about pancreatic cancer robbing him of his mother, but being fortunate to have the best father and the most wonderful second mother coming in to his life in Marlena. Brady says he can think of no one better to speak about John than Marlena. Marlena begins speaking about Isabella and John and how John took her to Venice for one last dance at the end of her life. Marlena talks about her and John working hard to keep Isabella’s memory alive for Brady and his children. Marlena wishes that people living with pancreatic cancer will have more time with their family and friends and that one day there will be a cure. Marlena states that she could not be more proud of her husband than she is now.

Cat questions what Leo is investigating. Leo admits he’s investigating EJ and talks about him being fascinating. Leo says there’s a story there and his readers want to know exactly what it is.

Gwen is in the lab and calls Rita to tell her that the truck is finally at the loading dock, so she’s going to make sure nothing is in their way. Gwen then checks the cameras and is shocked to see Cat and Leo together outside the lab, questioning what that is about.

EJ announces a brief break for cocktails and asks everyone to join them later for a formal tribute from the Hortons. EJ offers Sami a tissue to wipe her tears and asks how he did. Sami responds that he did okay which EJ says he will take as high praise from her.

Gwen calls Rita to tell her that something has come up and to hold the delivery until she gives the all clear.

Cat questions what makes Leo think he will find answers about EJ here. Leo comments on being a reporter and says he best be off before Kayla sends in the hounds. Leo quickly exits and Cat follows him out. They return to the town square where Leo worries that Chad will kill him for missing EJ’s speech and not covering it for the Spectator. Cat remarks that he should’ve listened to Kayla and walks off. Holly and Tate then come by so Leo ask if they can share their footage of EJ’s speech, claiming his recorder broke, which they agree to. Cat goes over to Andrew and says she needs his advice on another case, revealing she’s been having memories from the time she was recuperating where she was moved around from facility to facility after her accident in order to retain her cover. Cat tells Andrew that she’s remembering reading to a man who was covered in bandages and he feels very familiar to her, but she has no idea who he is. Cat adds that she seems to remember Andrew’s cousin Sami visiting the man. Andrew responds that it could be, revealing Cat and EJ were in the same recovery facility in Italy. Paul announces to Marlena, Will, and Arianna that he and Andrew are in the early stages of looking in to adoption. Will says he’s really happy for him. Paul responds that Will and Sonny were great role models for them. Marlena is sure John is looking down grinning. Paul jokes that Johnny and Chanel beat them to the punch in naming their baby after John. Sami comes over and announces that she has to run as her fiancée just surprised her with an engagement trip. Marlena tells her to be safe and come back to visit. Sami agrees to and hopes they will come visit her in Italy for her wedding which Marlena says they will. Arianna says she wants pictures which Sami promises. Sami says she loves them and walks away, passing EJ one last time on her way out.

Gwen steps out of the lab and instructs the men to bring in the delivery quickly.

Arianna tells Will, Eric, and Belle that she will really miss Sami. Will is sure she’ll be back in Salem too. Marlena begins clutching her chest as she sits down at a table next to Rachel. Belle and Kayla come over to check on her. Marlena tells them not to make a scene, but she needs to get to the hospital.

The delivery man tells Gwen that the box weighs a ton and asks what’s in it. Gwen responds that he was paid to make a delivery, not ask questions, and sends him out. Gwen then declares “welcome home”.

Eli Grant returns to Salem and goes to the police station with Rafe. They enter the interrogation room where Eli jokes that it’s good to be back as partners. Rafe says he wishes. Eli asks about Rafe having backup that’s undercover from the ISA. Rafe confirms that he does but says she’s an analyst and a little green while it will take a lot more than that to take down EJ DiMera. Eli asks if there’s no leads yet. Rafe says he wouldn’t say that and reveals they do have a lead.

Roman has the Brady Pub set up for Johnny and Chanel’s baby shower with a “Welcome Home Trey” banner. Eric and Will then arrive to surprise Roman which thrills him as they embrace. Roman asks where Will’s husband Sonny is. Will says he couldn’t get away from work but he sends his love. Roman brings up Eric being on assignment in New York. Eric says that’s why he was able to make it here. Roman tells him to bring baby Jude next time so he can see his Grandpa and meet his new cousin. Eric says he’s excited to meet Trey too. They mention not seeing Sami yet so Roman guesses they haven’t heard the news. Will asks if it’s good news or bad news. Roman says he’ll let him decide.

Sami goes to see Marlena. Marlena says she’s so glad she is home as she missed her so much. Marlena adds that the baby shower was a wonderful idea and she knows the kids are so excited about it. Sami says the timing worked out great that they got the baby right when she was here for the gala. Marlena wishes Sami could stay longer but she knows she has those mysterious plans that can’t be changed. Sami comments that they are very exciting plans. Marlena asks if those plans are the reason she’s holding her hand behind her back. Sami then reveals her engagement ring to Marlena.

Abe, Paulina, and Lani walk through the town square, talking about picking up the baby shower cake at the bakery. Paulina goes to pick up the cake while Abe tells Lani that he’s finally glad they have a moment to talk because he needs her help.

Leo sits at his laptop at home as Javi joins him and suggests he start putting some words down. Leo says he’s got nothing and remarks that he’s worried about making his deadline so he might not be able to make the baby shower. Javi guesses that Leo just can’t face seeing baby T with his new family. Leo can’t deny it and asks how he knew. Javi responds that he’s not sure he can either.

Johnny and Chanel are at home with Trey as Johnny complains that he won’t stop crying and he’s tried everything. Chanel says she’s sure it’s nothing but then checks on Trey and worries that it might be something serious.

Abe sits with Lani and tells her about Paulina telling Theo to go ahead and play CEO at DiMera Enterprises. Lani says she knows. Abe argues that the DiMeras never change as they will always be dirty. Abe urges Lani to talk to Theo. Lani says she’s sure Theo knows how he feels. Abe feels they’ve always been close and Theo will listen to her. Lani responds that he won’t want her to do that because she agrees with Paulina.

Leo tells Javi that he does have a ton of work to do. Leo guesses Javi has been thinking about the daughter he lost. Javi insists that he’s fine and that he’s worried about Leo.

Johnny consults Leo’s instruction book which suggests running the vacuum cleaner to calm Trey down. Johnny then realizes he doesn’t know where the vacuum is which Chanel jokes about. Chanel knows Sami meant well with the party but says she would prefer to just stay home with the baby. Chanel asks if Sami would hate them if they cancel.

Marlena tells Sami that’s a very elegant ring but she wasn’t expecting her to be engaged quite so soon. Sami says they’ve been dating for months which Marlena points out has been only two months. Marlena says she wants her to be happy, but Sami guesses she doesn’t think that she will be.

Rafe informs Eli that based on intel and Cat’s work, they believe the center of it all is the free clinic. Eli points out the clinic being named after Tom and argues that it’s personal. Rafe agrees, saying it’s personal for him and for Cat too. Eli questions what Cat has in this. Rafe informs him that EJ has brought Cat’s brother Mark in to this. Eli asks what EJ has Mark doing. Rafe says he doesn’t know other than signing non-disclosure agreements, but they are going to find out. Rafe declares that he, Eli, and Cat are going to get to the bottom of whatever EJ thinks he’s going to hide from them.

Abe questions why Lani agrees with Paulina. Lani says that Theo is family and the DiMeras are his family too, so it’s not right to say he can’t take an opportunity they can offer him. Abe questions just watching him throw himself in to a nest of vipers. Lani argues that Theo’s a grown man and he made his choice. Lani asks if Abe ever asked why Theo confided in Paulina instead of him. Paulina then returns with the cake. Paulina notices the tension and asks if they are ready to go.

Eric asks Will how Arianna likes living in Salem again. Will says she loves it and is thriving at Salem U. Will talks about visiting and adds how happy Arianna was that Holly decided not to go to Paris. Eric says they just want what’s best for Holly. They talk about being glad Arianna and Holly have each other after everything with Sophia. Will says he’s sure Eric can relate after what Sloan did to he and Nicole. Eric blames Sloan since she’s an adult but Sophia was just a kid trying to run away from trouble. Will remarks that she made everyone’s lives hell in the process. Eric says tonight they are here for Chanel and Johnny and their baby. Will is thankful it all worked out in the end for them. Eric agrees, bringing up when he almost lost his son Jude and says he wouldn’t wish that heartache on anyone.

Leo questions why Javi is worried about him. Javi says he knows Leo is going to dig until he’s on EJ’s very dangerous bad side. Javi warns that Leo’s stories have serious consequences and cries that he doesn’t know what he would do if something happened to him. Leo insists that he doesn’t have to worry about him and promises he’ll be just fine as he hugs him.

Johnny tells Chanel that saying no to Sami is not really an option and he doesn’t think it would be very well-received. Chanel agrees not to cancel and admits she may have been looking for an excuse to chicken out. Johnny asks what’s so scary about a baby shower. Chanel says she’s been thinking a lot about Rafe, Leo, and Javi, so she knows it will be really hard for all of them. Johnny says at least they don’t have to face EJ. Chanel hopes there’s no surprises but Johnny informs her that Sami told him that she has big news and he has no idea what it is.

Marlena tells Sami that she won’t predict the future, but points out that Dante is the son of a mobster. Sami informs her that Dante is not in the family business, which Marlena notes is what she initially said about EJ. Sami questions Marlena bringing EJ up. Marlena says that she doesn’t want her to make the same mistakes. Sami insists that Dante is not EJ and she’s not the same girl, so she promises to go in to this relationship with her eyes open. Marlena says that’s all she can ask.

Leo tells Javi that he loves that he worries about him while Javi asks him to keep the worrisome stuff to a minimum. Javi then asks if there’s something he’s not telling him. Leo then reveals that Gwen wants him to find Dimitri for her which Javi questions. Leo explains that he thinks Gwen might be worried that Dimitri might come for his inheritance. Leo adds that there’s still bad blood between them but feels that Gwen thinks Dimitri might be dead. Javi asks if he’s going to do it. Leo says not if Javi doesn’t approve. Javi asks if it will give Leo closure if he finds him. Leo responds that he doesn’t know if there’s anyone to find as he thinks if Dimitri wanted to come back, he would have by now. Javi says that’s unless there’s a reason he can’t.

Marlena and Sami go to the Brady Pub. Marlena looks through the window and says the decorations are up and it should be a nice party. Sami remarks that it’s too bad Carrie, Belle, and Brady couldn’t be bothered to show up. Marlena argues that Carrie is on another continent, Belle is in court, and Brady took Rachel on a field trip. Sami decides she doesn’t care. Marlena reminds her they only had one day’s notice. Sami agrees that it will be fine and repeats that she doesn’t care. They head inside where Roman excitedly greets Sami. Sami thanks him for hosting the party. Sami says it’s perfect and goes to get more balloons. Roman assumes Marlena heard the news of Sami’s engagement which Marlena confirms. Marlena says Sami never misses a chance to surprise them. Roman questions Marlena looking pale and if she’s taking care of herself. Marlena insists that she is and that she’s just fine. Eric hugs Sami and congratulates her, asking when the wedding is. Sami says he will be the first to know. Eric questions there being no date yet. Sami says she’s only had the ring for 24 hours and asks how things are with he and Nicole in Paris. Eric says they had a bump in the road a few months back but they are fine. Sami says she’s happy for him. Johnny and Chanel then arrive with baby Trey. Sami rushes over to see the baby. Chanel thanks Sami for making the trip and doing this for them. Johnny thanks Sami for not inviting EJ. Sami tells him that EJ did try to get her to put a good word in on his behalf, but she told him that they have to work it out between them. Johnny says that probably won’t happen anytime soon. Sami starts to argue against that but Johnny questions if Sami’s telling him to forgive EJ after what he did to Chanel in court. Sami says that’s not okay and she’s so sorry for what EJ did to Chanel. Chanel thanks her and decides to give them time and steps away. Sami encourages Johnny to try to find a way to peacefully co-exist with EJ and just set boundaries. Johnny mocks the idea of EJ following rules. Sami says Johnny has to be a role model now and asks if he wants his son to grow up, seeing him cut people out of his life just because he’s mad at them. Johnny says it’s not about him being mad. Sami encourages that Johnny is a great man, husband and father. Sami knows EJ made him doubt that he could do it but declares that Johnny will be a way better father than EJ ever was. Sami warns Johnny not to do something that he will regret for the rest of his life. Chanel thanks Eli and Lani for coming. Lani say they wouldn’t miss this. Eli and Lani reveal that they are thinking about having another baby. Will sees Sami’s ring and guesses that she is engaged to Dante which she confirms. Sami mentions being glad that Will was able to meet Dante when he came to visit. Will says he seems great. Sami assures that he is. Sami adds that she won’t be getting married right away and that it will be a long engagement. Will says he’s sure maybe some of them will like Dante as much as he does. Will then asks if Lucas knows. Sami confirms that she saw him earlier, so Will asks how that went. Sami says it went okay and that she forgave Lucas, so that’s over. Sami admits that part of her will always love Lucas and EJ. Rafe, Leo, and Javi arrive at the Pub. Leo tries to hurry back out but Johnny announces them as the Godparents and honorary Grandfather. Sami takes Rafe aside and hugs him. Rafe says it’s good to see her. Sami says it’s wonderful to see him and to know that he’s looking after her son and now grandson. Rafe assures they are family. Rafe asks if Sami is ever going to bring her fiancée to Salem so he can meet him. Sami questions how he knew. Rafe responds that he’s a detective, then admits that Johnny told him and he saw her giant ring. Sami says she wanted to tell him herself, especially after last time they were together. Rafe assures that it’s fine and there’s no jealousy. Sami recalls asking Rafe to come back with her to Italy while Rafe says he asked her to stay. Rafe says that Dante is a lucky man. Sami responds that no matter who she’s with, it will never change how she feels about him. Rafe replies that she will always mean the world to him. Marlena talks with Leo about the baby being called Trey so they can still call him T. Leo is glad his name is John. Marlena says she is too. Marlena knows how rought it is for Leo to be there and tells him how proud she is of how far he’s come. Leo feels he can’t take any credit because he wouldn’t be here without Marlena, Javi, and Trey. Chanel cuts the cake and recognizes it from the Bakery. Marlena decides she would like to go home. Sami points out that she didn’t have any cake yet. Marlena says she’s feeling a little tired and tomorrow is a big day, so she’d like to feel rested on the day of John’s request and the gala. Roman offers to drive her home but Will says he’s a little tired, so he will take her home. Sami says goodnight as Will and Marlena exit the Pub.

Will brings Marlena home. She thanks him while Will says it’s good to be at one of his homes. Marlena asks Will to bring Sonny next time. Will promises to do so and says Sonny was sorry he couldn’t make it. Will asks if Marlena is okay. She insists that she is and says she’d like some tea. Will says he will get it for her. Marlena says she can get it but Will insists and has Marlena sit down with her book. Marlena says she’s so glad that Will is home as he goes to get her tea.

Lani finishes a call checking in on her and Eli’s kids. Lani talks about the life of having twins as Sami jokes about how she and Lucas were a torture to their parents growing up and then her own twins Johnny and Allie were to her as well. Sami adds that mother nature has it’s way of getting payback as she flashes back to giving birth to Johnny and Allie. Sami then goes to get a piece of cake and joins Rafe at the table. Rafe says he is going to do a background check on her fiancée. Sami says she wouldn’t have expected anything else as she flashes back to when they first got together. Rafe adds that he won’t be wasting his time. Sami assures that she always takes him seriously. Chanel calls out that it’s time to get their baby home. Paulina, Abe, Roman, and Sami toast to the next generation of Prices, Carvers, Bradys, and DiMeras. Chanel and Johnny thank Sami for the great night. Chanel congratulates Sami and asks about coming to the wedding in Italy. Sami assures that Dante is eager to meet them. Johnny says he’s eager to meet him too. Johnny tells Sami that he loves her as they hug. Chanel thanks her for everything as she and Johnny exit the Pub with Trey. As they leave, they find Eli and Lani kissing outside. Johnny invites them to come over but Chanel suggests they leave them to it, so Johnny says goodnight and Chanel thanks them for coming. Lani thanks them for the invitation as they walk away. Eli and Lani then resume kissing.

Eli and Lani go to their room and lay in bed, joking about Chanel and Johnny walking in on them making out as they continue kissing in bed.

Johnny and Chanel get baby Trey to sleep. Chanel still can’t believe it’s real as Johnny points out their mountain of baby presents. Chanel says it was great to celebrate with their whole family but this is even better.

Rafe finishes a call and informs Abe, Paulina, and Roman that Tony DiMera never showed up at the next port and has officially been declared missing.

Chad questions Jennifer threatening to sue him for custody and if she’s serious. Jennifer responds that she’s more serious than Chad was when he promised to stop seeing Cat. The nurse comes over to tell them that Thomas is ready to go home.

EJ is in his office, finishing a call with Kayla and thanking her for letting him know about Thomas as Cat enters and questions what happened with Thomas. EJ informs her that he ran in to the street and was hit by a car. Cat begins to panic that it was all her fault.

Maggie goes to the Titan office with papers for Xander to sign but finds Philip instead. Maggie says she’ll just wait until Xander comes back but Philip says she’ll need him to sign too if it involves Titan. Maggie tries to claim it’s nothing but Philip takes the papers and sees it’s for the Kiriakis Estate. Maggie explains that they had to put it up as collateral to secure a loan which shocks Philip. Maggie adds that if they could’ve done anything else, they would have. Philip questions losing the family home if they can’t save Titan. Maggie argues that it was the only asset large enough to secure the loan they needed but Philip says no.

Lucas Horton returns to Salem and joins Kate at the Pub as they hug. Kate says she’s so glad he’s back even if it is just for the hospital gala. Lucas says he also came back to make sure she’s staying out of trouble because that’s his job. Kate brings up that Sami is coming back to town as well. Lucas says that he could avoid her, clarifying that he doesn’t want to as he would like to see her, but he knows the last thing Sami wants is to see him. Sami then enters the Pub, surprising them. Lucas approaches her but Sami walks past him and goes to Kate. Kate says it’s good to see her while Sami asks if Roman is around. Kate says that he’s not and she doesn’t know when he will be back. Sami asks her to let him know that she stopped by. Kate initially agrees but then suggests Sami should just call him herself, which Sami calls a good point. Kate says that Roman will be very glad she’s back. Sami says she’s happy to be back. Kate then walks away, leaving Sami with Lucas. Lucas says he gets that she’s trying to ignore him but they are here, so they might as well talk. Sami agrees to give him one minute. Lucas tells Sami that she looks good. Sami thanks him as he then spots her ring and she reveals that she is engaged.

Maggie tells Philip that this isn’t easy for any of them. Philip tells her to give him time and he’ll think of something. Maggie argues that they are out of time and that Titan will only survive if they act immediately. Philip remarks that Maggie was always an optimist but argues that putting up the estate is the same as sounding the death knell. Philip declares that they may as well start packing up the office now but Maggie yells at him to wait.

EJ questions why Cat would think what happened to Thomas was her fault. Cat explains that she was in the town square, got bad news about her mom and ran in to Chad, then Chad hugged her right when Jennifer walked by with Thomas and saw them. Cat says that she said she was sorry and ran off but guesses that’s what prompted him to run away. Cat asks what they said about Thomas. EJ informs her that Kayla said he had a dislocated shoulder but he will be okay and they are releasing him shortly. EJ tells Cat that she can’t blame herself for what happened since Chad chose to offer her comfort and Thomas just misunderstood. EJ says she can blame Clyde because it can all be traced back to him, including what happened to him which Cat questions. EJ explains that years ago, one of Clyde’s goons shot him and everyone thought he died but he was taken to a warehouse in Nashville where he languished for years until the whole place went up in flames. EJ adds that he was transferred to a private facility in Italy, waiting for the day to begin rehab and fighting to get back to the people he loved. Cat responds that she had no idea he went through all of that. EJ repeats that it all goes back to Clyde Weston as he stole years from him, but now the tables have turned as Clyde’s in a coma while he’s alive and well, making the most of his life. Cat says she completely understands that.

Chad and Jennifer go to see Thomas. Chad tells Thomas that Kayla said he can go home. Thomas responds that he’s not going with him. Jennifer says she can take him back to the house then. Chad tells Thomas to sit tight as he and Jennifer step out.

Lucas congratulates Sami and hopes they will be very happy together. Sami responds that they already are and that no man has ever made her this happy. Lucas tells her that she deserves it. Sami says that she and Lucas will never be best friends again, but she knows that he’s sorry. Lucas admits he’ll be regretting kidnapping her for the rest of his life. Sami says he should but relates to a lot of things she regrets that she’ll be sorry for during the rest of her life. Sami says she has this new chapter and doesn’t want to drag all of that into it, so she forgives Lucas. Lucas says that means more to him than she’ll ever know as they hug.

Maggie goes to the Horton house, telling Julie that she’s so glad Thomas will be okay. Maggie asks if Marie and Mike are there. Julie says they took Charlotte out for frozen yogurt until things calm down. Julie says she should’ve had her come by earlier but Maggie says she doesn’t mind waiting and enjoys the company. Julie tells Maggie about Tate and Holly coming by earlier to interview them for their college project and how it brought back a lot of memories, some good and some not so good.

Chad tells Jennifer that overriding him is not okay and that Thomas will be coming home with him. Jennifer argues that’s not what he wants. Chad argues that Thomas is nine years old and doesn’t always get what he wants. Chad says he’s making decisions as the parent. Jennifer says not anymore and declares that as soon as Thomas is cleared to travel, she’s taking him and Charlotte to Boston. Chad says he won’t agree to that, so Jennifer warns that if he doesn’t, she will see him in court.

EJ talks about how Cat also worked her way back from a horrible accident and how it makes you view life very differently. Cat decides she should get to work and asks EJ to keep her updated on Thomas as she exits the office. Sami then arrives which shocks EJ.

Chad tells Jennifer she can be angry with him if she wants but she won’t use his kids to threaten to control what he can or can’t do. Jennifer argues that it’s her obligation to protect her grandchildren and says that what happened to Thomas was Chad’s fault because his lies hurt him so badly that he ran into traffic. Jennifer complains that Thomas’s life is at risk because of Chad. Chad responds that he’s not a risk to his children. Jennifer calls them Abigail’s children. Chad says that’s what this is about. Chad declares that she wants Abigail’s children because she can’t have Abigail. Chad shouts that he lost Abigail too and you don’t deal with loss by taking from someone else. Chad declares there is no way in hell that she is taking his kids.

Kate tells Lucas that it’s kind of a miracle that Sami left him in one piece. Philip arrives and hugs Lucas, joking that the screwed up brothers are reunited. Philip calls it a family reunion, then says he’s sorry as he really needs a drink.

Maggie tells Julie that she’s so sorry that Bo and Hope couldn’t make it back for the gala. Julie says the interviews reminded her of the circumstances that brought Hope into their lives. Julie says she thinks about Doug all day every day but that time made her have regrets that the time she and Doug wasted or made each other unhappy. Julie states that Hope’s real story begins with the terrible quarrel she and Doug had where she walked out on Doug and her mother walked in, which she flashes back to finding out that Doug married her mother. Julie tells Maggie that she thought that was the worst day of her life but she was wrong.

Jennifer questions Chad saying her taking the kids is a selfish act. Chad calls it beyond that and says it’s despicable and pointless. Chad argues that she’s not going to win and asks if she’s going to tell a judge that she wants to take his kids because she doesn’t like a girl he dated for five minutes. Jennifer complains that she will tell the judge that his lies have hurt his children and his negligence have put their health in jeopardy, arguing that she has mental records to prove it. Jennifer remarks that his son doesn’t feel safe with him.

Sami jokes that EJ looks better than the last time she saw him in a coma and now he owns the whole hospital and is having a big party to celebrate the opening of the free clinic. EJ is glad that she came to join the festivities. Sami says she can’t stay long and will have to leave the gala early as she has plans that she can’t break. EJ says he’s sorry to hear that but understands that she didn’t have much notice. EJ asks what brings her by. Sami announces she will be hosting a baby shower for Johnny and Chanel, but EJ is not invited and she’s only telling him because she really doesn’t want him to crash it. EJ asks if there’s anything else. Sami then informs him that she is engaged. EJ is surprised and asks to whom. Sami reveals she is engaged to Dante Vitali which shocks EJ, who asks if she’s out of her mind. Sami questions what the hell kind of reaction that is. EJ says she should expect that being engaged to a Vitali. Sami argues that Dante has nothing to do with that as his family stays in Italy and he knows nothing about his cousins. EJ doubts that is true but brings up Ava’s son raping her daughter. Sami questions him bringing that up and says Charlie is rotting in hell where he belongs. Sami repeats that Dante has nothing to do with that and has never even met Ava. EJ feels that doesn’t make him any less dangerous. EJ says they both know the real reason she’s rushing down the aisle with some rich Italian stallion and it’s to try and prove she’s moved on from him. Sami says EJ will just have to brush aside his gigantic ego to understand that he was the furthest thing from her mind when Dante gave her the ring. Sami remarks that EJ’s jealousy is showing.

Philip toasts to Sami’s engagement, joking that she may make her new man as miserable as she made Lucas. Lucas acknowledges that he made her miserable too, so he’s happy that she’s moving on with her life. Philip asks Kate to pour him another drink so she goes to the bar. Lucas asks what’s the matter with Philip. Philip reveals that he just found out that Titan needs an infusion of cash so Xander and Maggie just took out a loan by putting up the Kiriakis Estate as collateral which means if he doesn’t turn the company around, they will lose everything that his father worked his entire life to build. Kate comes back and declares there’s no way in hell she will let that happen.

Julie recalls being furious with her mother for stealing Doug away from her and then being devastated when she got pregnant with Hope, and learning after that Addie was diagnosed with leukemia. Julie talks about the duel between parents and children and ultimately still loving each other as she flashes back to when her mother asked her to raise her baby. Julie says she never thought she would be Hope’s mother and then Addie went in to remission and they thought she would live happily. Julie adds that finding out Thomas was hit by a car brought back the awful day that her mother was killed by a car.

Chad tells Jennifer that he’s done arguing and is going to get his son. Jennifer thinks Thomas has been traumatized enough and asks him not to force him to leave with him. Chad responds that he’s taking Thomas home where he lives with his children. Jennifer calls that the Horton family home and argues that they expected him to put his children’s need before himself. Chad says he does. Jennifer asks if Abigail would agree that he was putting his children’s needs first if she saw him consoling Cat Green. Chad argues that it was just a hug and says they all make mistakes, including her. Jennifer remarks that she’s never put her children’s lives in danger and storms off as Cat comes around the corner and sees them.

Lucas tells Kate to relax and asks why she cares about Victor’s legacy. Kate states that Victor’s legacy is Philip’s legacy and she was in love with him once which led to a child. Philip talks about Vivian doing the heavy lifting but Kate doesn’t want to hear her name. Kate goes to sign for a delivery. Lucas then asks Philip what Vivian did now.

EJ asks Sami when the wedding is. Sami responds that they haven’t set a date yet. EJ bets that she doesn’t make it down the aisle. Sami calls him vindictive and says that’s why he makes people so angry, why he’s not welcome at his grandson’s celebration, and why they made Rafe his honorary grandfather. Sami says she’s not saying this to hurt EJ but to point out that he does it to himself and brings on his own misery and isolation, which breaks her heart.

Maggie tells Julie that she’s so glad that she and Doug found their way back to each other which Julie says was meant to be as she flashes back to when they agreed to marry. Maggie calls them soulmates. Julie says that Doug’s love and spirit keeps her going as he’s still the best part of her and that’s never going to change. Julie then says they weren’t the only soulmates and brings up Maggie and Mickey. Maggie flashes back to when she first met Mickey and finding out that Marty Hanson was Mickey Horton. Julie says in the end, it worked out wonderfully. Maggie talks about the Hortons always accepting her.

Philip informs Lucas that he used a forged letter to lay claim on Titan and now the entire company could come crumbling down. Philip adds that Lucas can’t tell anyone about the letter. Lucas agrees not to and is surprised to learn that Xander knows. Lucas asks what Xander did to him when he found out but Philip says to forget he brought it up, so Lucas promises not to say anything.

EJ tells Sami not to pretend like his rift with Johnny breaks her heart, believing she must be thrilled that Johnny has cut him out of his life. Sami says she’s not but she understands why he did. Sami feels EJ just went too far and things blew up in his face as usual, but she hates that they are estranged, especially now that Johnny has a son. Sami wants him to fix things but he always thinks he knows best, tries to force his will onto other people and when it doesn’t work, he gets nasty and spiteful. Sami acknowledges that she does the same thing but says she’s working on it and that makes a difference, so it will for him too. EJ asks Sami to put in a good word with Johnny on his behalf but Sami says they have to work it out between themselves. EJ agrees but says that Johnny refuses to speak to him. Sami jokes that she doesn’t know anyone who can get what he wants more than EJ. Sami says it’s their son so he has to do it the right way. Sami mentions having to leave the gala early tomorrow so she might not get a chance to say goodbye to EJ since he’ll be so busy. Sami and EJ then say goodbye to one another as she exits the office. EJ sits back down at his desk as Chad arrives. EJ asks what’s wrong. Chad responds that he needs legal advice.

Jennifer brings Thomas home where Julie asks how he’s feeling. Thomas guesses he’s okay. Julie asks where Chad is. Jennifer asks Maggie to take Thomas to the kitchen to make something to eat so she does. Jennifer then informs Julie that Thomas did not want Chad to take him home. Jennifer calls this the last straw and declares that she’s hiring Justin with Jack’s full support so she hopes she has Julie’s support too. Julie asks for what. Jennifer then announces that she’s suing Chad for custody of Thomas and Charlotte.

Chad asks EJ if Jennifer has a case. EJ is afraid she might because when a legal dispute involves children, anything is possible. Chad asks what he’s supposed to do. EJ agrees to represent him if it gets to court but for now they just have to hope that Jennifer will back off now that Thomas is okay. Chad worries that she won’t, pointing out that they live under the same roof so every time she sees him, she will be reminded of how angry she is. EJ admits it sounds scary and tells Chad that if he needs distance between them, he’s always welcome back at the DiMera Mansion.

Sami runs in to Cat at the hospital. Cat recognizes her from Marlena’s pictures and says she seems so familiar to her. Sami admits it does seem like they have bumped in to each other in the past, but she has to get going so she hurries off. Cat then remembers seeing Sami at EJ’s bedside when EJ was recovering from the explosion years ago with his face bandaged up as he referenced before. Cat then flashes back to reading Wuthering Heights to EJ back then, the book they both had recently been reading, revealing that she was there during EJ’s recovery which seems to leave her confused.

Marie Horton returns to Salem, joining Julie at home as they talk about how great it is to be celebrating Tom Horton with the free clinic and gala. Tate and Holly come over, so Julie introduces Marie to them. Marie says she hears they want to hear about the Horton family. Holly confirms that they do. Julie tells them that they have 60 years of stories to share.

Jeremy and his father Mike Horton sit together at the Brady Pub. Mike asks if Jeremy is glad to be back in Salem. Jeremy calls it a work in progress, saying the kids have been great but it’s the grown-ups he’s worried about as a lot of them don’t think he belongs in Salem.

Chad and Jennifer sit at the hospital after Thomas was hit by a car. Kayla walks by so they ask if Thomas is okay.

Tate sets up the video camera to record Marie and Julie. Marie asks what kind of stories they want to hear. Holly suggests starting with the connection between the Hortons and the hospital. Julie says that goes back generations. Holly asks which Horton was the first to work at the hospital. Marie says that would be her grandfather William and then Tom followed in his footsteps. They recall Tom becoming chief of staff in 1978. Marie says she and her brother Bill also worked there as well as the man who turned out to be her other brother Tommy Jr. Tate asks about that story. Marie says her parents loved the hospital but their first priority was always their children as they flash back to Tom and Alice. Marie comments on there being so many memories and sometimes it feels like a lifetime ago but also feels like just yesterday.

Jeremy tells Mike that a lot of people in Salem remember how he behaved last time he was there and some of them are finding it hard to trust him, like Stephanie. Mike says Jeremy made a mess of things but he knows how hard he worked to turn that around. Jeremy wonders if it was a mistake to come back. Mike argues that Salem is his home and he has so much family here, adding that he knew it wasn’t going to be easy. Jeremy guesses it’s just harder than expected. Mike encourages him on being a teacher which Jeremy admits has been really rewarding. Mike remarks that in his experience, the people of Salem eventually find grace and insists he can find a good life in Salem. Mike tells Jeremy that everyone in town will realize what a good man he’s become and a man he’s proud to call his son. Jeremy thanks him for believing in him.

Kayla informs Chad and Jennifer that Thomas has a mild concussion and a dislocated shoulder but he will be fine which relieves them. Chad asks if he can go see him. Jennifer stops Chad and asks if he’s sure Thomas wants to see him considering this is all his fault.

Tate questions Marie not knowing that Tommy Jr. was her brother. Julie explains that the family had been told that Tommy had been killed in war, but he was wounded, had to go through facial reconstruction surgery, and had no idea who he was. Marie says they knew him as Dr. Mark Brooks and she became his research assistant at the hospital which she flashes back to. Marie reveals that she fell for him, having no idea he was her brother, but Mickey and Tom found out before anything could happen. Julie calls it an overwhelming turn of events for the whole family. Marie adds that it was an answer to Alice’s prayers. Marie calls Tom an amazing father and says there was so much love in the family. Marie says she had a hard time getting over things, so she left town and became a nun which is a different story.

Mike asks Jeremy if there’s anything he can do to help. Jeremy says it’s something he has to handle himself, but if he needs something, he’ll be the first to know. Mike suggests going back to the house to be with family.

Chad questions how he’s to blame for what happened to Thomas when he happened to run in to Cat, who shared some bad news about her mother which Jennifer mocks. Chad blames Jennifer for blowing up in the first place and getting Thomas all worked up about Cat. Jennifer argues that she had nothing to do with his reaction. Chad accuses her of turning Thomas against him while Jennifer says he’s done a fine job of that on his own. Kayla interrupts and argues that they are family and all that matters is that Thomas feels safe. Chad agrees and declares he’s going to see his son as he walks off.

Mike and Jeremy go to the Horton house where Tate fills them in on how they are filming a mini-documentary on the Hortons and their history with the hospital. Mike begins talking about having to step in to Tom’s shoes as chief of staff at the hospital. Julie talks about Mike and Jennifer’s parents Bill and Laura both being doctors at the hospital as well. Marie adds that Laura even mentored Marlena which surprises Tate to learn. Holly then asks them to tell them about Bill and Laura since they sound like Salem’s power couple. Marie says they certainly made their mark on the hospital and their family.

Jennifer tells Kayla that she hates getting so upset with Chad as he really has been a wonderful father to his kids since losing Abigail and he’s suffered so much as they all have. Jennifer argues that Chad is different and his priorities have changed as he says one thing and does another which she blames on Cat. Jennifer complains that Chad promised to stay away from Cat after what she put their family through, but every time she turns around, they are together. Jennifer goes over how Cat showed up at the Spectator, Thomas saw her on Halloween, and that Cat and Chad were just in each others’ arms in the town square. Jennifer complains that is why Thomas got so upset and ran in front of a moving car. Jennifer cries that she can’t even think about what could’ve happened to him and she will not let it go. Jennifer declares that she has to do something about it.

Chad visits Thomas in his hospital room and tells him how happy he is to see him and that he’s not hurt that badly. Thomas remains silent. Chad apologizes but Thomas tries to turn away from him and says that he broke his promise so he’s done.

Tate says they won’t take up any more of their time. Julie says they really do have 60 years of stories to tell. Holly says maybe they’ll set up for round two and adds that this was amazing. Tate thanks them and promises to show them the video. Julie thanks them and says it was like their own time capsule. Jeremy hopes they get an A on the project. Mike walks Tate and Holly out. Jeremy then questions the looks on Julie and Marie when Tate asked about Bill and Laura, feeling there was something they didn’t want to tell them. They get interrupted as Julie gets a call from Jennifer, informing her about Thomas.

Chad gets that Thomas is mad at him but asks for a chance to explain. Kayla comes in and tells Thomas that they have to fix his shoulder. Chad tells Thomas that he’ll be with him the whole time but Thomas shouts that he wants Jennifer instead. Chad argues that he’s his father. Kayla takes Chad aside and reminds him to focus on what’s best for Thomas.

Julie informs Marie, Mike, and Jeremy about what happened to Thomas and says he’s going to be okay. Mike decides he will go to the hospital to check on Thomas and keep Jennifer company. Jeremy suggests he will have the kids at school write Thomas get well notes. Jeremy then goes back to asking if there’s something about Bill and Laura that he doesn’t know. Julie confirms there is and it’s not a good story that concerns his father, so she asks if he’s sure he wants to hear it.

Mike joins Jennifer at the hospital. Jennifer says it’s so good to see him and she’s doing better now that Thomas is going to be okay. Jennifer goes in to see Thomas as Chad comes out. Mike then asks Chad what that was all about.

Marie tells Jeremy that this all happened in the late 60s and was a pretty dark chapter for their family. Marie explains that Bill had been out of town and came back to find out that Laura had married his brother Mickey, so Bill got drunk and forced himself on Laura which shocks Jeremy. Julie reveals that Laura got pregnant and that’s when Tom realized the truth because he knew Mickey couldn’t father a child. Jeremy asks if they kept it a secret from Mickey. Julie confirms that the truth did not come out for years and that it almost tore the family apart. Julie adds that Mickey lost his mind and ended up shooting Bill. Jeremy can’t believe it and asks how a family survives all of that.

Chad tells Mike that he and Jennifer have been having some disagreements which Mike says he’s sorry to hear. Chad guesses Jennifer has told Mike how disappointed she is in him and how she blames him for what happened to Thomas. Chad remarks that maybe she’s not wrong.

Tate and Holly go to the Pub. Tate mentions that they have a few minutes before their next interview and offers to get them coffee. Holly comments that at least the first interview went good but she was not expecting all of that. Tate agrees as he expected puff pieces about heroic doctors and family togetherness but what they got was not that. Tate says he always viewed the Hortons a like a perfect family. Holly says it’s a reminder that Julie and Marie were young like them once and brought the drama too. Tate declares they are done with the drama as he feels like he’s learned from his mistakes and is dedicating himself to making it up to her as they kiss.

Chad asks Mike if Jennifer has voiced her concerns to him about he and Cat. Mike confirms that she has. Mike states that he loves Jennifer but he loved Abigail very much just like he loves her children, so he’s going to give Chad the benefit of the doubt and trust that he will make the right decisions for them. Kayla comes over and hugs Mike, saying she didn’t know he’d be there. Chad asks how it went with Thomas. Kayla responds that he is very brave and they got his shoulder back in place. Kayla thinks if Chad fills out the paperwork, Thomas will be ready to go soon. Kayla says he’ll be in a sling and suggests having him rest and icing it if needed. Kayla tells Mike that it’s great that he could be there for the dedication of the free clinic. Kayla asks how it feels to be back in Salem. Mike responds that it’s always nice to be home and mentions Jeremy picking him up from the airport. Kayla asks how he is. Mike knows the last time Jeremy was in town, he didn’t treat Stephanie how she deserves to be treated and he’s very sorry about that. Mike knows Kayla has every reason to be skeptical, but assures that Jeremy has been working very hard to turn his life around. Kayla says she’s heard that, so time will tell.

Jeremy can’t believe he never knew as no one ever sat him down and told him the story, but guesses that’s why Mike always said he thought of Mickey as a second father. Marie and Julie talk about everyone eventually reconciled, Bill and Laura got married and had a second child in Jennifer while Mickey found happiness with Maggie. Julie says that Mickey and Maggie were soulmates which Jeremy says is just like Tom and Alice as well as Julie and Doug. Julie states that even the best families have secrets and it’s about not letting the past define you.

Jennifer returns to Chad and tells him that the nurse is getting Thomas ready to go and she wanted to talk to him for a second. Chad tells her to go ahead. Jennifer says in the years since Abigail’s death, she’s never doubted that Thomas and Charlotte should be anywhere but with Chad, but that is no longer the case. Chad asks what she is saying. Jennifer argues that Chad has been negligent and has not put his children first which is why Thomas got hurt today and could’ve been killed. Jennifer says he’s going to be okay this time, but she cannot trust Chad with her grandchildren anymore. Chad asks if she’s going to try and take away his kids. Jennifer brings up that Thomas told her that he wants to come live with her and Jack and she now supports that. Jennifer declares that she is taking Thomas and Charlotte to Boston and that Chad will not fight her on it or she will sue him for custody.

Cat is at home, working on her laptop when her brother Mark comes home. Cat tells him that she forwarded him his paperwork from EJ, but she’s not sure why he didn’t include his job title. Mark responds that his current job description is in flux.

Leo sits alone at the Brady Pub looking sad. Chad approaches and hugs him. Chad says he heard about Tesoro and asks if he’s doing okay. Leo claims that he is but then starts to cry as he admits he’s not really. Leo says he knows Johnny and Chanel will be such great parents, but he’d normally be taking Tesoro to the park, then taking him home, singing to him and putting him down for his nap. Chad says his heart goes out to Leo and Javi. Leo thanks him and says he knew this day was inevitable but he doesn’t think anything prepares you for having to say goodbye to your kid. Leo cries that he’s sorry as he brings up that Chad had to say goodbye to his wife forever while Tesoro is alive and well and he will still see him. Leo apologizes for being really insensitive but Chad says there’s nothing to forgive and he understands he’s going through it. Leo calls that very kind of him. Leo suggests changing to a brighter subject. Leo tells Chad that his kids are the most adorable children on the planet. Leo comments on how much Thomas adores Chad and how close they are.

Gwen questions if EJ really had nothing to do with Tony’s disappearance. EJ questions why the hell she would ask him that. Gwen points out that they did such a bang up job of making Dimitri disappear that she wouldn’t be surprised if he did the same in making his own brother disappear. EJ reminds her that was her idea, not his, because she wanted revenge for Dimitri betraying her. Gwen admits that she was seeking vengeance, but argues that EJ was happy to go along with the plan and eager to take part in the spoils. EJ admits there was no love lost between he and Dimitri after he gave him every chance to prove himself to be loyal to the family, only to prove himself to be a con artist. EJ adds that things are different with Tony as he is his brother, dearest friend, and confidant. EJ states that he would never dream of hurting him and predicts he will show up at the next ship. EJ then tells Gwen that they have a lot of work to do before the gala and asks if she’s given any thought to their Leo Stark dilemma, Gwen confirms that she reached out to him and he agreed to meet. EJ calls that brilliant and reminds Gwen of the importance that she put aside all grievances to regain Leo’s trust. EJ declares that they need to stop Leo from uncovering what they are really up to at the clinic, one way or another.

Jennifer brings Thomas to the Brady Pub and tells him how proud she is of him for his grades and suggests they celebrate with dessert, but she notices that Thomas is still upset about being grounded over what happened on Halloween. Jennifer tells Thomas that it’s okay to be upset with Chad for spending time with Cat after everything she put their family through, but it’s never okay to try and hurt someone, even if someone you can’t stand the sight of, as Gwen walks by.

Cat questions Mark’s job description being in flux. Mark explains that he can’t practice medicine with his medical license suspended, so EJ created a research job for him. Cat questions EJ hiring him directly and what he will be researching. Mark responds that he has no idea. Cat asks if EJ didn’t tell him anything. Mark says EJ obviously has a lot on his mind and he needs the job. Cat advises him to be careful. Mark questions what she’s so worried about, pointing out that she works for EJ too and asks if she trusts him.

EJ finishes a call about the gala as Abe arrives at the DiMera Mansion. Abe declares that he’s there to talk about his son.

Thomas greets Gwen and tells her that Jennifer is taking him for dessert because of his good grades. Gwen says Thomas was always exceptionally bright and asks if Jack will be joining them. Thomas says he had to go back to Boston. Thomas invites Gwen to join them but Gwen says she has to catch up with an old friend, so she’ll see him around. Gwen then heads in to the Pub.

Cat assures Mark that she trusts EJ and says she wouldn’t work for someone she didn’t trust. Mark questions what the issue is then. Cat says she doesn’t want Mark to get in to any trouble. Cat acknowledges that EJ has been good to them, but asks Mark to run it by her if EJ asks him to do anything out of the ordinary. Mark feels Cat talks about EJ like he’s a mob boss. Cat admits she’s heard stories about EJ and that he can be pretty ruthless when he wants to be. Mark asks if she means like Clyde Weston. Mark assures that she has nothing to worry about and brings up how Clyde was holding their mom against her will. Mark insists that he will never do anything like what he almost did to Chad, even if part of him wants to wring Chad’s neck for breaking her heart.

Leo tells Chad that despite his sadness, he’s really happy for Johnny and Chanel because he knows how long they’ve wanted a baby. Chad thinks back to when they first met and how far Leo has come. Leo jokes that the old Leo would be plotting to get the baby back. Chad says he’s glad he’s not that Leo anymore. Gwen then approaches and comments on two of her favorite people being in the same place. They reluctantly greet her which she mocks. Jennifer enters the Pub with Thomas. Chad tells Leo it was a pleasure and gets up from their table to go join Jennifer and Thomas. Gwen then takes the seat with Leo and asks if it was something she said. Leo guesses Jennifer just handed her head on a platter. Gwen responds that Jennifer managed not to for the sake of Thomas which Leo says must have been hard for her. Gwen brings up when Jennifer was addicted to painkillers and hit her with her car, but complains that she ended up the villain in the story. Leo points out that Gwen also tried to destroy Jennifer’s family. Gwen complains that it’s her family too and that she didn’t know second chances were reserved for saints like Jennifer. Leo then asks if he deserves a second chance.

Jennifer tells Chad that Thomas did so great on his report card that she thought he deserved a treat, but he seems not to be in the mood which Chad questions. Jennifer thinks Thomas is still having a hard time with the whole pumpkin incident. Chad tells Thomas that they talked about this and calls him a great kid. Chad says what Thomas and Rachel did was not good, but everyone makes mistakes and the key is to learn from them, not beat themselves up over it. They ask if Thomas is ready for dessert now. He smiles and says that he is.

Abe tells EJ that he just found out that Theo came back to Salem because Tony flew him to run DiMera. EJ responds that he was just as surprised to learn what Tony was doing and now he is unfortunately missing which he calls bad timing. Abe responds that he doesn’t like it and feels that EJ likes it even less.

Chad, Thomas, and Jennifer enjoy strawberry ice cream, a brownie, and cake. Chad excitedly asks Jennifer about the Hortons coming to town. Jennifer informs him that Jeremy has gone to the airport to pick up Marie and then he’s going back to pick up Mike. Jennifer talks about how much it means to Marie. Chad can’t wait to feature Tom in tomorrow’s edition of the Spectator. Chad calls Jennifer such a talented writer and says her article was beautiful as she did her Grandfather proud. Jennifer thanks him and says that Thomas makes her and Jack that proud. Chad gets a text that he has to get to the office, so he’ll see them back at home as he exits the Pub.

Cat tells Mark that Chad is a good man and that he ended things for his family. Cat adds that they should understand sacrifices like that. Cat asks Mark how their mom is doing after he saw her this morning. Mark responds that he’s afraid he has some bad news.

EJ tells Abe that he could never get one over on him and admits that he’s not thrilled with the arrangement of Theo running DiMera Enterprises, remarking that he will have certain forces working against him. Abe asks if EJ is one of those forces. EJ swears that he would never dream of going after Theo and says he’d gladly step in to help guide Theo in Tony’s absence. Abe asks if he’s joking, arguing that’s the last thing he would want. EJ asks what he wants then. Abe wants EJ to help him get Theo away from DiMera before he finds out that they eat their own. EJ questions if Abe is saying he wants them to work together to unseat Theo. Abe responds that Lexie wouldn’t want something like this and neither does he, so he asks EJ to help him save his son from himself.

Leo tells Gwen that their friendship is like the movie Elf with no chance of a sequel. Gwen asks why she asked him to lunch then. Leo says he doesn’t know. Gwen brings up a road trip they took together which they laugh about. Gwen claims that she’s missed this. Leo admits he has too but then stops and questions her sudden change since last week, arguing that it makes no sense. Leo remarks that she hated him with a vengeance five minutes ago and questions what she is up to.

EJ finishes a call as he walks through the town square and runs in to Chad. EJ apologizes to Chad, saying he had no idea that Jennifer would be at the Spectator when he sent Cat to inform him of Tony’s disappearance. Chad accuses EJ of sending Cat instead of telling him, himself, because he was trying to play matchmaker and tells him to knock it off. EJ asks if he’s not allowed to want his brother to be happy with that special someone. Chad says not that someone because he and Cat are through as they have to be.

Jennifer tells Thomas that they will watch E.T. tonight because Thomas has never seen it. Jennifer adds that it’s really nice to see him smiling again since he’s had a really hard time lately because of Chad and Cat. Jennifer declares that Thomas doesn’t have to feel sad anymore because Cat is out of their lives for good. Jennifer knows Thomas wanted to come live with her and Jack in Boston because he was angry at Chad for seeing Cat, but insists that’s all over now and that he and Charlotte belong with Chad. Jennifer assures that they mean more to Chad than anything in the world. At their table nearby, Leo tells Gwen that she’s not fooling him for a second. Gwen then admits she may have called him under false pretenses, so Leo asks what this is about. Gwen claims it’s about Dimitri.

EJ brings Mark to his lab at the hospital free clinic. Mark questions why it’s in the back of the clinic and all the security out front. EJ informs him that the project he’s working on requires the utmost discretion and that no one can know what he’s working on, not even his sister.

Cat walks through the town square, on a call with a doctor, questioning if they are sure it’s that. Cat is upset as she finishes the call. Chad approaches and asks what’s going on.

Leo questions Gwen wanting to rehash how he and Dimitri did her dirty, saying he has no interest. Gwen responds that it’s not about that and asks him to hear her out. Gwen then claims she received a tip about Dimitri being spotted. Leo asks what it has to do with him. Gwen feels Leo could help her track him down. Leo asks what’s in it for him other than reopening old wounds. Gwen argues that it would be his biggest career defining story as a journalist and asks if he doesn’t want to know what Dimitri has been up to all this time. Leo responds that he doesn’t. Leo asks if Gwen’s not worried about what might happen if Dimitri comes back to Salem and stakes his claim on his fortune that she’s been spending. Gwen says she wants to know if he’s on this side of the Atlantic. Leo tells her to hire a private investigator like Steve then. Gwen argues that Steve doesn’t know Dimitri like Leo does. Leo argues that her lead might not even be Dimitri that was spotted. Gwen thinks it’s worth a shot, saying she needs closure and thought Leo did too. Gwen asks if Leo doesn’t want to know if Dimitri isn’t dead somewhere. Leo asks if something made her think Dimitri is in danger. Gwen guesses that Leo still cares about him. Leo insists he doesn’t as he has moved on with Javi and doesn’t want to talk about Dimitri anymore. Leo says he has more serious and important things to concern himself with today. Gwen then apologizes for not bringing up sooner that they had to give the baby away. Leo confirms today is the official day that Tesoro was adopted. Leo brings up having a picture but says it’s still too soon and gets emotional. Leo cries that he will still be in their lives, but it’s hard knowing they won’t be taking care of him every day and he’s going to miss it so much. Gwen asks if it’s possible that Leo has actually grown a heart.

Mark asks if EJ can give him something. EJ says he intends to explain and reveals that he’s funding out of his own pocket, research on the new drug Versavix. Mark recalls reading about that. EJ says the possibilities are endless, but so is the red tape, regulations, trials, and FDA approval which is where Mark comes in. EJ tells Mark that he will help them find their way around the red tape. Mark admits the project does sound exciting and will have the potential to help a lot of people. EJ declares they are on the verge of medical history and assures Mark will be glad he came on board. Mark asks when he wants him to get started. EJ says the details will be sorted when his immediate supervisor arrives any minute now.

Cat tells Chad that she’s fine. Chad says just because they aren’t together anymore doesn’t mean he stops caring about her. Cat then informs him that her mom has had a setback, revealing that she didn’t recognize Mark when he went to see her. Cat adds that doctors think everything she went through may have triggered early onset dimentia. Chad says he’s sorry. Cat cries that she thought they were finally getting her mom back after everything, but now it’s like they could lose her forever and she doesn’t know what to do. Chad hugs Cat as Jennifer and Thomas come through, shocked by seeing them together.

Mark asks EJ who his supervisor will be. EJ says it’s a rather eccentric, genius scientist who knows how he likes to conduct business. Mark asks if he knows this person. Dr. Rolf then arrives, so EJ introduces him to Mark. EJ decides he will leave them to get acquainted since they will be spending quite a bit of time together.

Leo states that perhaps taking care of a child helped him heal his own inner child. Gwen says she’s glad and talks about how lucky the baby was to be in their care. Leo admits this has been nice. Gwen says it’s so nice they can be civil, but wants to get back to talking about Dimitri. Gwen tells Leo that if he accepts the assignment, all expenses and flights will be paid for. Leo agrees to think about it. Gwen tells him not to take too long. Leo then exits the Pub. Gwen then calls EJ, who hopes she has good news. Gwen tells EJ that she did as he asked and got Leo’s heart racing as she sent him on a wild goose chase to find Dimitri which they know is a lost cause and a hopeless endeavor.

Thomas declares that he knew it and that Chad lied to him again. Cat says she’s so sorry and runs off. Chad turns to Thomas to try to explain but Thomas doesn’t care and shouts that Chad doesn’t care about him or their family and that he only cares about Cat. Thomas then runs away into oncoming traffic, causing Chad and Jennifer to go racing after him.

Alex goes home and tells Stephanie that he’s decided to work from home today. Stephanie works on her laptop and talks about how much work she has to do before the gala. Stephanie complains about her phone being such a distraction that she had to put it on silent because she was getting so many texts. Alex tells her that she better get used to the attention. Stephanie blows off being Anastasia Sands as not like she’s Superman. Alex thinks she should be proud that so much of Salem are invested in her book. Stephanie continues to complain that she only has a few hours to do a week’s worth of work. Alex then says maybe this will ease her frustration as he presents her with an envelope.

Paulina joins Roman and Abe at the Brady Pub. Paulina asks if they got the photos that she texted. Both say they haven’t checked their texts. Roman asks what it’s photos of. Paulina announces it’s of her and Abe’s grandson and Roman’s great-grandson as she shows them the pictures on her phone.

Gwen enters the living room of the DiMera Mansion where EJ is pouring a drink. Gwen asks if it’s a bit early for that. EJ says it’s never too early to celebrate as he announces he is a newly minted Grandfather since Johnny and Chanel adopted a baby boy. Gwen congratulates EJ and guesses if she’s supposed to ask for the photos but EJ reveals he doesn’t have any. Gwen questions him not taking any photos. EJ clarifies that he hasn’t met his grandson yet and doesn’t think he ever will.

Gabi goes to see Theo in his office. Theo says they still have to finalize the details for Gabi Chic. Theo notes that Gabi is upset and asks if something is wrong.

Javi sits at home, looking at photos of Tesoro on his phone with tears in his eyes.

Alex informs Stephanie that the envelope is her first royalty check for One Stormy Night and comments on how many zeros he saw in it. Stephanie then opens the envelope and is shocked by the amount.

Gabi tells Theo that she’s sorry as her family just gave up custody of their foster child. Theo acknowledges the baby going to his stepsister and cousin. Theo understands she’s upset and say he shouldn’t have called her in. Gabi says it’s okay. Theo asks if she’s sure as they could do this another time. Gabi assures that she wants and needs to keep busy. Theo says he understands, so Gabi asks how long it will take before Gabi Chic is officially free from DiMera. Theo responds that if he had it his way, it would take forever, leaving Gabi confused.

Gwen asks about EJ being deprived of seeing his grandson. EJ responds that he wasn’t expecting otherwise. Gwen is sure that it’s still terribly distressing and knows he’s worked so hard to reconcile with Johnny. EJ says it’s unfortunately been to no avail. Gwen encourages that it will all work out in the end, then brings up that she hears there’s a wave of Hortons coming to Salem and the Bradys and Blacks will descend upon Salem as well which EJ says he’s also bracing himself for, remarking that it will be a large influx of holier than thou, but he thought the more good PR for the hospital, the better. Gwen asks if it’s possible that EJ invited them all because he has an ulterior motive. EJ questions what that would be. Gwen asks if it’s an excuse for EJ to lure Sami back to town.

Stephanie tells Alex that this is the biggest paycheck she’s ever gotten. Alex jokes that she could buy a racecar. Stephanie worries about walking around town like a celebrity. Alex says she is a celebrity now, but admits he’ll wish they had more free time to enjoy. Alex adds that she’ll have to get used to it all over the country which Stephanie questions. Alex then reveals that after the gala, she’s hitting the road because Kate has a massive book tour lined up for her which shocks her.

EJ tells Gwen that is absurd as he’s not trying to lure Sami to Salem and doesn’t give a damn if she shows up or not. Gwen remains skeptical about him not giving a damn since the last time Sami was there for Johnny’s trial, she snubbed him and before that, he was in a coma so it must have been hard to not have any satisfying interaction with her in many moons. EJ wasn’t aware that Gwen was so familiar with his various encounters. Gwen responds that she keeps an ear to the ground. Gwen argues that she would have to live under a rock to not know about his history with Sami and assumed he would have unfinished business. EJ assures her that it is finished. Gwen asks if that’s because Sami can’t forgive him for all the horrible ways he abused and neglected her. EJ remarks that Gwen has a knack for winding him up. Gwen takes that as a compliment. Gwen tells EJ that she really admires Sami’s determination to hold onto past wrongs as she’s heard Sami can hold a grudge even longer than her.

Gabi questions Theo not giving her Gabi Chic. Theo says of course not and asks why he would want to do that. Theo believes Tony made a serious mistake in telling Gabi that she could take her company away from DiMera. Gabi argues that if he hadn’t, she would’ve gone to court. Theo says she would’ve lost. Gabi calls it a moot point since the deal was offered and accepted. Gabi says she didn’t come to rehash old disagreements, so Theo suggests they talk about a new agreement. Theo asks what if he made her a serious offer. Gabi responds that she’s not interested. Gabi says she’s been fighting to regain control of Gabi Chic for years, so now she’s determined that no one else ever have it again. Theo supposes all that’s left is finishing up the paperwork then and says he will have his assistant reach out when it’s ready. Gabi thanks him and goes to leave, but stops. Gabi then asks if Tony knew he was asking her to stay on. Theo responds that Tony is kind of off the grid at the moment.

Abe and Roman look over the pictures of the baby. Paulina informs them that the baby’s name is John III, Trey for short, and his middle name is Paul after her. Roman calls it wonderful news and makes a toast to baby Trey.

Alex asks Stephanie what is wrong since she knew about the book tour. Stephanie says she didn’t know it was all over the country, arguing that she has a company so she can’t just leave her other clients. Alex promises that they will make it work and cater to her. Alex says he’s the head of Titan publishing so he will make sure it works for him too because he doesn’t want to spend a minute longer than he has to away from her as they kiss and hug.

Gabi goes home and questions Javi being home as she thought he was on shift today. Javi says he switched shifts but will be going in later. Gabi questions him just sitting there all alone and says not anymore as she sits with him.

Roman tells Paulina that seeing the new addition of the family makes him miss his babies, so he’s glad that Sami and Eric are coming home for the gala. Abe brings up that they have a family reunion coming up as well as Paulina announces that Eli and Lani are coming back. Roman jokes that it’s always good to have the kids back in the nest, even when they bring their drama with them. Abe then remarks on them not sharing it.

EJ questions Gwen admiring holding a grudge, being bitter and unforgiving. Gwen says it depends on why the grudge is held. Gwen guesses she has said enough. EJ agrees and suggests no longer talking about personal matters that have nothing to do with her which Gwen agrees to. EJ suggests talking about preparations for the gala instead. Gwen says there’s nothing to discuss there as Rita has it all taken care of. EJ asks if they have developed a plan to keep prying eyes away from the clinic while they smuggle in the supplies. Gwen confirms they have a foolproof plan. EJ asks if they have squared away their power supply. Gwen assures they have everything they need, so they shouldn’t have any more complications.

Theo makes a phone call about the meeting Tony had that caused him to miss his cruise ship and he hoped to deliver a message to Tony, but is surprised by what he’s told.

Alex tells Stephanie that he will work quietly in the corner by himself as to not distract her, even if he gets messages from Titan about glowing reviews for her novel. Stephanie says she wouldn’t want that to go to her head. Stephanie says if she’s going to get more work done, she will need more coffee which Alex says is coming right up. Stephanie adds that she did bring home some pastries from Chanel’s bakery after her book launch. Stephanie tells Alex that last night was practically perfect.

Gabi is sorry that Javi has been dealing with his by himself today. Javi says it’s not like they didn’t know the day would come where they would part ways with Tesoro. Gabi acknowledges that he and Leo were essentially his fathers and she knows that letting him go has to bring back losing his daughter. Javi confirms that it does but on a positive note, Johnny and Chanel will give him a wonderful new family so he’s really happy for him. Gabi says she is too but that doesn’t mean their hearts aren’t broken by not having him around all the time. Javi admits he will miss him crying in the morning and night, feeding him, bathing him, and singing to him. Gabi agrees that it was great having him and a blessing. Gabi says it’s great that Johnny and Chanel named Javi and Leo as his Godfathers. Gabi calls the baby lucky that Javi and Leo will be in his life forever. Javi feels they are the lucky ones.

Abe mentions having to get to another tutoring session with Liam. Paulina hopes it goes well and says Liam is lucky to have a wonderful tutor. Roman tells Abe that he will see him later as Abe then exits the Pub. Paulina guesses Roman can see that Abe is a little upset with her. Roman admits that was pretty obvious. Paulina explains that it’s all because Theo told her a few things that he didn’t tell Abe. Paulina calls it a slippery slope to keep her stepson’s confidence and then confiding in her husband. Roman knows she wants to support Theo, but he understands why Abe is upset. Roman warns that Paulina doesn’t know the DiMeras the way they do. Paulina responds that she is well-versed in the DiMeras. Roman argues that reading police reports is a far cry from living through it. Paulina feels that Theo is sensible enough to find his way out if he gets in over his head. Roman calls her quite the optimist. Paulina says it’s in her nature. Roman says he’s more of a realist and agrees that Theo is capable of getting himself out of trouble, but worries that by then, it could be too late.

Gwen asks EJ to pour her a drink. Theo then arrives and greets them, announcing that he has news about Tony. Theo says Anna reported that Tony didn’t make it to the boat because he was at a meeting and would board the next boat, but it turns out the meeting did not go over so Tony would’ve had plenty of time to make it back to the ship. EJ wonders where the hell Tony is then.

Stephanie tells Alex that last night would’ve been perfect except for the part where Alex got knocked out by a pumpkin. Alex says he could’ve done without that but it shows the lengths that son of a bitch would go to undermine him. Stephanie points out Thomas launched the pumpkin while Alex argues that Thomas wouldn’t have been able to if it wasn’t for Jeremy. Alex adds that creating space between Stephanie and Jeremy is another reason he’s glad she’s going on the book tour. Stephanie guesses that is one silver lining.

Javi thanks Gabi and says he’s so glad she’s there, but questions what she’s doing home in the middle of the day. Gabi responds that he’s not the only one with an unpredictable schedule. Javi assumes she must be so busy with having Gabi Chic back and he’s so proud of her tearing Gabi Chic away from the DiMeras. Javi points out that Gabi never told him how she pulled it off. Javi questions why she isn’t saying anything. Gabi responds that there’s something she’s been dying to tell someone, so if she tells him, it has to stay under the code of silence which Javi agrees to. Gabi then reveals that she thought she was going to be the next DiMera CEO which shocks Javi. Gabi says instead, she wound up with Gabi Chic as her consolation prize. Javi questions what happened. Gabi explains that Tony said he needed her help to get control of DiMera back from the Kiriakis family and in exchange, he promised her the top spot. Javi guesses that Tony managed to slither his way out of keeping his promise. Gabi confirms that he totally betrayed her trust. Javi says Tony screwed her over, but maybe it was for the best because now she doesn’t have to work at DiMera anymore. Javi questions Gabi going silent again and asks her to talk to him. Gabi says maybe she shouldn’t say any more but Javi tells her not to leave him hanging. Gabi then reveals that she and Philip have started seeing each other.

EJ questions why Tony would miss his ship if the meeting ended in time and wonders if Anna misunderstood the original message or if Tony somehow got detained before reaching the pier. EJ is sure Tony will be there when the ship comes by in a few days, but agrees to contact the authorities about the latest. Theo thanks him. EJ is glad Theo came by and reminds him that with Tony gone, he’s there if Theo needs any help at DiMera. Theo thanks him but says he has it under control. Theo moves a chess piece and tells EJ it’s his move and then exits, leaving EJ impressed.

Alex wonders about getting pumpkin out of his clothes which Stephanie calls a distraction. Alex then finds a slit in the back of his jacket which they wonder how that got there.

Gabi talks to Javi about her relationship with Philip, but worries that if the truth ever came out about her helping DiMera, Philip would dump her. Javi asks who else knows. Gabi says just Tony, so she has to hope he keeps quiet which she’s nervous about. Javi understands since they have no incentive to stay quiet. Javi points out that she wouldn’t have to worry if she just tells Philip the truth. Gabi refuses and calls that a horrible idea, declaring that no one can ever find out what she did.

Theo runs in to Abe in the town square. Abe says he’s supposed to be at his tutoring session but Liam stood him up, so he went out and bought a gift for Johnny and Chanel’s son Trey. Abe questions Theo not being at the office. Theo says he needed to talk to EJ because Tony is missing which Abe questions. Theo explains that Anna and Tony were on a cruise and Tony got off the ship and apparently never got back on, so they are hoping he gets back on the next one. Theo adds that EJ offered to help out which Abe calls a terrible idea. Theo agrees and says that’s why he turned him down. Theo says he’s sorry but he has to get back to work and walks off.

Gwen notes that EJ doesn’t seem terribly concerned about Tony’s disappearance. EJ says that Tony has a habit of going off the grid and jokes that he would do the same if he was married to Anna. Gwen mentions hearing that Tony is a control freak, so she’s surprised he didn’t give Theo more of a guiding hand. EJ suggests Tony has more faith in Theo than she does. Gwen says perhaps more than EJ does and comments on EJ being so supportive with no ulterior motive. EJ says Tony gave him the opportunity and he turned him down, so he’s hardly interested in being in control at DiMera. EJ reminds her that he is very busy with the hospital. Gwen asks if EJ is sure he had nothing to do with Tony’s disappearance. EJ questions why the hell she would ask him that. Gwen points out that they did such a bang up job of making Dimitri disappear that she wouldn’t be surprised if he did the same in making his own brother disappear.

EJ walks through the town square while on the phone with Rita. EJ tells her that their shipment is confirmed to be arriving and that the gala will provide a distraction for her to get it in without anyone noticing.

Rafe and Gabi pack up Tesoro’s things at home. Rafe says as much as he knew this going to happen at some point, he’s been in denial about it until now. Arianna comes home and hopes Gabi is not going to lecture her about skipping class. Gabi tells her that today, she’s exactly where she needs to be and hugs her.

Paulina is with Marlena, excitedly preparing for Tesoro’s arrival. Paulina declares that their babies are finally having a baby of their own. Marlena responds that they have Paulina to thank for it.

Javi and Leo watch over Tesoro in their room. Javi comments that Tesoro is going to be with his new family and they don’t know how lucky they are.

Johnny and Chanel fill out paperwork with Belle. Johnny thanks Belle for everything and offers to pay her but Belle says getting to be Tesoro’s aunt is more than enough payment for her. Johnny and Chanel excitedly finish signing the papers as Belle congratulates them, announcing they are now the parents of Tesoro. Chanel exclaims to Johnny that they now have a son.

Rafe talks about how much stuff they had for Tesoro. Gabi comments that their home is going to feel so empty without him.

Paulina tells Marlena that all she did was put in a good word with child services while she believes it was the hand of God that guided the baby in to their arms. Paulina talks about when Chanel was a child, she said she wanted to be a mom while playing with her dolls and now her dream is finally coming true.

Johnny and Chanel thank Belle again for expediting the process for them. Belle calls it her pleasure as she hugs them and says she’s so happy for them. Belle tells them to go get their son as EJ then arrives. Johnny questions what he’s doing there.

Rafe says it’s almost time as Leo and Javi come in to the living room with Tesoro. Rafe asks if they are ready to go. Leo talks about them all being overcome with emotion and jokes that they can go on the run with Tesoro. Leo says they know he makes stupid jokes when he gets overwhelmed. Rafe tells him that he’s sorry. Leo knows it’s hard for everybody so there’s no point in pretending otherwise. Gabi tells Leo it’s okay and hugs him, saying she knows it’s especially hard for he and Javi. Javi assures that they will all get through it together. Javi and Leo then exit with Tesoro as Gabi, Arianna, and Rafe follow them out.

EJ says he’s here to speak with Belle and asks what Johnny is doing there. Johnny informs him that Belle was just helping them finalize the adoption of their son. EJ responds that he’s thrilled for them and wonders if his conversation with Amy Choi had anything to do with their success which Chanel questions. EJ explains that she was unpleasant at first and knew she wanted to object, but feels he must have gotten through to her and changed her mind. Chanel asks if he bribed or threatened her. EJ says he did something much more effective, he spoke to her from the heart as one parent with regrets to another. Chanel says they should get going. Johnny thanks Belle again as he and Chanel exit. Belle tells EJ that she’s very busy so she’s sure whatever he came to see her about can wait. EJ says maybe not, as it’s about her father’s request to the hospital, so Belle tells him to have a seat.

In the town square, Leo asks if they have time for one more stroll through the park but Rafe says that’s not a good idea as Johnny and Chanel will be there any minute. Tesoro wakes up crying, so they all begin checking on him and wondering what he needs. Leo talks about how good Javi is with him as Tesoro calms back down. Johnny and Chanel then arrive in the square.

Paulina and Marlena finish decorating for Tesoro’s homecoming. Paulina says she knows how excited Marlena is for Johnny and Chanel, but realizes it must be a hard day for her too as it is her anniversary. Marlena is surprised she remembered. Paulina admits that her sister Tamara did as she’s always asking about her. Paulina asks how she’s holding up. Marlena responds that the baby coming home is a lovely distraction while other times, she just has to remind herself of how lucky she was to have John for all those years. Marlena knows how thrilled and touched John would be that his grandson and namesake is becoming a father.

Rafe congratulates Johnny and Chanel as he hands over his bag of Tesoro’s things. Chanel tells the Hernandez family that they are so grateful to all of them and that this wouldn’t be happening without them. Chanel credits Rafe helping with child services and his whole family for being the reason they have a happy and healthy baby to bring home. Rafe responds that he is honored to help them become parents, especially Johnny as he always considered him his son. Johnny admits Rafe has been like a father to him for most of his life, so he’s really happy that he can be part of this moment as they hug. Leo adds that as much as they are going to miss Tesoro, they are so relieved that he’s going to such a good family. Javi adds that they are also relieved that they can visit him from time to time. Chanel assures that they can visit any time they want because Tesoro loves them and they are going to be part of his life. Arianna points out that Tesoro is now her cousin, so it’s kind of like they will be one big happy family anyway. Rafe then picks up Tesoro and presents him to Chanel and Johnny as Leo and Javi hold back tears.

EJ tells Belle that he thinks such a generous donation should be publicly acknowledged. Belle calls that very kind of him. EJ asks if she approves then. Belle says she’ll have to speak to her family but doubts that they will have a problem with it. EJ says to just let him know before the gala. Belle stops to ask if he actually spoke to Amy Choi yesterday. EJ confirms that he did and asks if she thought he made it up. Belle says she’s just having a hard time wrapping her head around Amy actually listening to him. EJ supposes they were able to relate because he told Amy that he understood what it’s like to feel like you’ve done everything possible to help your child but still feel like you failed them when they need you the most. EJ says that he simply conveyed to her that she wasn’t alone in that. Belle guesses Amy is really worried about Sophia. EJ calls it terrible to feel powerless to help a child in crisis. EJ assumes Belle declined to press charges against Sophia which Belle confirms. EJ knows initially that he wanted Belle to throw the book at Sophia because she hurt his son and he was hurting for him, but after speaking with Amy, he thinks Belle made the right decision. EJ then exits Belle’s office.

Johnny puts Tesoro down to sleep in his stroller. Javi talks about Tesoro’s moods while Leo presents an instruction book he put together that includes suggestions on what to do when Tesoro is cranky, what makes him laugh, the foods he likes, and medical information. Johnny thanks him and says he thought of everything. Javi cries that they can always give them a call if they have any questions. Chanel thanks them and says this is really helpful as they appreciate all of their support. Johnny states that Leo and Javi gave Tesoro the best possible start in his life and repeats that they are so grateful. Rafe calls it crazy how he can remember when Johnny was Tesoro’s age and now he’s a dad. Johnny calls Rafe the best dad he could’ve asked for. Johnny then reveals that he and Chanel hoped Rafe would want to be the honorary Grandfather to their son. Rafe emotionally responds that he would love nothing more and thanks Johnny as they hug. Chanel adds that if Leo and Javi are willing, they would love for them to be Tesoro’s Godparents.

Marlena says that’s enough about her and tells Paulina that Abe must be loving having Theo home and asks about Theo’s new job at DiMera. Paulina says that Theo seems to be enjoying it, despite Abe’s discouragement. Paulina says she’s tried to tell Abe that she just told Theo to follow his heart. Paulina complains that she knows Theo working for the DiMeras is triggering for Abe, but he’s been treating her like she pushed Theo to the job and like he’s the enemy.

Leo and Javi happily tell Chanel and Johnny that they would be thrilled to be Tesoro’s Godparents. Arianna adds that she’d be happy to babysit. Gabi asks if they have decided on a name. Leo questions it not being Tesoro. Javi explains that Johnny and Chanel are his parents now so they should get to choose. Chanel responds that they are between a couple of ideas and will let them know what they decide. Rafe declares that it’s time to let Johnny and Chanel take their son home. Johnny and Chanel thank them again for everything. Leo and Javi say a tearful goodbye to Tesoro as Chanel and Johnny then leave the town square with him. Rafe knows they are all feeling a bit raw, but it’s not like Tesoro is being shipped off to Siberia as they will get to see him all the time. Leo and Javi agree that does make it easier. Leo wants to go see him already but decides he will let his new parents have him all to themselves. Arianna decides she should get back to school since she already missed a class and has a study group at noon. Gabi invites her to breakfast first which she accepts. Arianna tells Leo and Javi that it was great hanging out with them and that they really need each other, especially now. Gabi says they’ll see them at home as she and Arianna walk away. Rafe states that he knows it’s hard to say goodbye but a wonderful thing happened today.

Belle joins Paulina and Marlena to celebrate, confirming that the papers are signed and notarized which excites Paulina and Marlena. Belle says Johnny and Chanel should be home with the baby soon, so Paulina goes to make more coffee. Belle then informs Marlena that EJ came by and said he wants to announce John’s bequest to the hospital at the gala tomorrow night, but only if it’s okay with everyone. Marlena question what the catch is. Belle says that EJ just said he wanted to acknowledge John’s donation in public. Belle knows EJ usually has an ulterior motive, but she thinks he was being sincere. Marlena says it sounds fine and suggests inviting any of the family which Belle agrees to do. Marlena then remarks that with the exception of EJ, it will be nice to have everyone together again to celebrate their new addition.

Arianna and Gabi go to the Brady Pub for breakfast. Gabi asks if she had fun on Halloween. Arianna tells her that she was with Aaron and they were both a little sad about Tesoro. Arianna says she had just found out about the adoption and admits she sort of fell apart in front of Aaron when he’s the one that had to give up his kid. Gabi says Arianna was the one living with Tesoro for months while Aaron doesn’t even know him. Arianna notes that Aaron said he was still grateful to them for taking care of his son for all these months. Arianna adds that since Johnny is her uncle, Aaron can probably see him anytime he wants. Arianna comments that Aaron is a sweet guy and that he was happy about the adoption. Gabi notes they sound pretty close and asks if there’s something going on there which Arianna laughs off.

Rafe says he is going to head to the Pub while Leo and Javi decide to head home. EJ arrives and tells Leo that he knows he wanted a sit-down interview about the gala, but Leo says he’ll call him later and walks off with Javi which EJ finds odd. EJ tells Rafe that Leo had been pestering him relentlessly for an interview. Rafe informs EJ that they just handed off Tesoro to Johnny and Chanel. EJ says he can imagine how difficult that was. Rafe says EJ should know all about that which EJ questions. Rafe explains that they just handed off a child they love in Tesoro while EJ has had to part ways with his son, but Tesoro didn’t hate them so maybe it’s a bad analogy. EJ states that he and Johnny have had their differences but he doesn’t hate him and he’s certain that Johnny will one day let him back in to his life and allow him to have a relationship with his grandson. Rafe then tells EJ that the role of paternal grandfather has already been filled by him.

Gabi thinks Arianna is protesting too much. Arianna insists that she and Aaron are just friends who are going through a similar thing with baby and that’s bonded them, but in a totally platonic way. Arianna reiterates that they are not a thing and she’s only interesting in getting the disciplinary thing behind her and finishing the year strong. Gabi asks about her internship. Arianna says Kate sent her resume to HR but it’s such a mess at Titan that it might be a few weeks before they get caught up. Gabi invites Arianna to come to Gabi Chic but she declines which Gabi questions. Arianna says that Javi has told her horror stories about working there. Gabi argues that she’s a great boss which Arianna jokes about but admits she’s really glad that she got Gabi Chic away from DiMera and says she’s really proud of her for that. Gabi tells her that she’s always proud of her too.

Belle sends a text to everyone in the family that is out of town about the announcement at the gala and says she will tell Brady when she sees him later. Marlena mentions Will coming to town and says she hopes more of the family could come, especially Sami to meet her new grandchild. Belle says she’s sure Johnny would love that. Paulina tells them that the coffee is made and food is ready as Chanel and Johnny then arrive with Tesoro, exciting them all.

Leo and Javi return home to their room. Javi guesses they should take the crib down. Leo says they don’t have to do it right now. Leo suggests they spend the rest of the day doing some self care. Javi finds a pacifier left in the crib and gets emotional.

EJ tells Rafe that he is not going to sit by and let him be a father to his grandson. Rafe responds that EJ doesn’t have a say in the matter because Johnny and Chanel already made the decision. Rafe then gets a call from Sami and informs her that Johnny and Chanel just took the baby home.

Arianna tells Gabi that she should get going and thanks her for breakfast. Gabi says she really appreciates her being with them today. Arianna talks about Tesoro being such a big part of their lives. Gabi says it wouldn’t have felt right without her there. Gabi brings up Will and Lucas coming to town for the gala, so she asks if Arianna can pull herself from college to attend. Arianna says she definitely will. Gabi states that it will be really good to have their family together as they hug.

Paulina, Marlena, and Belle introduce themselves as the baby’s grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt as they then realize they don’t know what to call the baby, so Marlena asks if he has a name yet. Chanel reveals they have decided. Johnny then announces that Tesoro will now be known as Trey as in the third for John the third which makes Marlena emotional. Johnny explains that being named after John and trying to live up to that has made him a better person. Marlena assures that John would be so honored. Chanel then adds that the baby’s middle name will be Paul after Paulina. Chanel says that Paulina’s love and support is a big part of the reason why they are parents today, so they are grateful for her helping them get here and make this happen. Paulina excitedly hugs Chanel as Chanel congratulates her on becoming Grandma.

Leo admits to already wanting an excuse to go see Tesoro. Leo knows Javi has been stoic through this but he also knows that saying goodbye has brought back a lot of memories for Javi. Javi knew the emotional risk of bringing him home and he always knew that saying goodbye would be hard. Javi talks about forcing himself not to feel sorry for himself when he has a lot to be grateful for. Javi cries that looking at the crib is bringing back a lot of memories. Leo encourages that this time, he’s here to help him through it. Javi says he will help him through it too as they hug.

Johnny gets a call from Sami. Johnny says they are just getting settled in and he can’t wait for her to meet their baby boy as he’s perfect. Johnny adds that he and Chanel are beyond happy and excited. Sami then informs Johnny that she’s coming to town to meet her grandson. Paulina and Chanel smile at the news while Belle looks potentially worried.
