Michael suffered a cardiac arrest at General Hospital. Isaiah deduced that Michael had been poisoned with digitalis and administered the appropriate antidote, stabilizing his condition. Following this incident, Isaiah informed Portia of his suspicion that a killer was targeting patients within the hospital.

Meanwhile, Carly and Sonny were taken aback when Willow asserted her authority over Michael’s medical decisions, insisting that Portia communicate solely with her. Tensions escalated as Willow, influenced by Drew, demanded the return of her children in exchange for allowing Carly and Sonny access to Michael. After negotiations, a compromise was reached: Wiley and Amelia would stay with Nina, enabling Carly and Sonny to focus on Michael’s recovery.

TV Review of “Shifting Gears”

TV Review!

DARYL "CHILL" MITCHELL, SEANN WILLIAM SCOTT, MAXWELL SIMKINS, BARRETT MARGOLIS, TIM ALLEN, KAT DENNINGS SHIFTING GEARS – ABC’s “Shifting Gears” stars Daryl “Chill” Mitchell as Stitch, Seann William Scott as Gabriel, Maxwell Simkins as Carter, Barrett Margolis as Georgia, Tim Allen as Matt, and Kat Dennings as Riley. (Disney/Justin Stephens)

“Shifting Gears” on ABC Review by Suzanne 1//10/25

First, I have to admit that I’m not a fan of Tim Allen, and that was true long before he became vocal about his conservatism. I just never found his brand of humor funny in either “Home Improvement” or “Last Man Standing.”  He was much better in his movies, such as “Galaxy Quest,” “The Santa Clause” and the “Toy Story” franchise.

To be fair, comedians and actors are only as good as the writing. Allen wrote the first sitcom, but not the second, and he’s not a writer on this series, either.  It was created by husband-wife writing team Mike Scully and Julie Thacker-Scully, who previously wrote for “The Simpsons” and “Parks and Rec.” I just don’t think this comedy they wrote is very funny (which is the main prerequisite for a sitcom). The characters are fine, but the jokes are very predictable: Tim Allen’s character, Matt, is at odds with his daughter, Riley (Kat Dennings). They argue about everything. In between their arguing, Matt says a lot of lame right wing comments that are, I guess, supposed to make us laugh (whether we’re laughing at him, or his jobs, I’m not so sure).  The acting is fine, but the actors aren’t given much to work with, comedically-speaking.

Now, the show does have a lot of heart, which is the only thing that works at all.  Both Riley and her dad are still mourning Riley’s mom, who died suddenly. The feelings between them, and about the late wife, feel very real.  Perhaps they should have made this a drama instead.

One thing that I found interesting is that Matt is a toned-down version of Allen’s previous characters. His right-wing rants are not nearly as bad as they were in “Last Man Standing.” Also, the show seems to be more of an ensemble show than “Home Improvement.”  Riley has two children that enjoy spending time with their grandpa. Matt runs an auto body shop, where we quickly see a potential love interest for Riley is Gabriel (Seann William Scott). The only bright spot among the cast, besides Dennings (who’s wasted here), is Daryl Chill Mitchell (Stich), who doesn’t look like he ever ages. He’s funnier than the others in this show.

THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

The role of Jack Brennan is now being played by Chris L. McKenna. Thank you for the ride back to Port Charles. Oh, it’s the least I can do after you saved my life. You have done so much for me. I mean, the biggest gift was getting Michael into that clinic. And you provided a distraction, so I didn’t sit around and worry about him or drive the clinic staff crazy. Well, I’m just glad I was able to give you a small taste of what Baden-Baden has to offer. I was expecting a small, sleepy German town. What I wasn’t expecting was for Valentin Cassadine to show up and try and kill you. So, why am I here? Did you find proof that Cyrus killed Dex? Well, this is about Dex, but it’s — it’s not for the reason you’re thinking. I can’t believe you snuck in here. I just jumped the fence. Navy Seal training finally came in handy. I hope Yuri doesn’t catch you on the way out. Nothing could keep me from seeing you. Here you go. $5,000. You’ll have another five in a month. I’m pleased to see you’re able to honor your debts, Mr. Bell. Was there any other option? Yeah. See you in a month. Not so fast. I have a proposition for you. One I think you’d like. I’ve been all over the world doing dangerous work. I get that sometimes, your back is against the wall. You don’t have a choice. You have to kill someone in self-defense. But Sidwell was unconscious. Jason had knocked him out. So, I told him to stop. And he did. He wasn’t happy about it, but he stopped. Do you regret it? I really don’t know. This will be perfect for the meeting. I’m so glad. Enjoy. Thank you. Where is everybody? This meeting is supposed to start. I’m sure they’ll be here shortly. You just missed my mom. Oh, how unfortunate. But then again, it’s one less person to debate the direction of our company. Brook Lynn, hi. It’s so good to see you. Trace, I am so excited to talk all things Deception. I don’t care if you chisel it on stone. Where is Maxie? And would someone tell Lucy this is no time to be a social butterfly? I understand that you’re trying to give Monica access to Wiley and Amelia by having them in the house, the house that they grew up in. It’s very generous of you. Thank you. Recap written by Suzanne

Anna tells Martin that the gun they found (that Alexis threw into the river) doesn’t match the one used to kill Cates.

Molly learns from Dex that there’s new evidence in Alexis’ case, and then she gets a text about it.

Portia confesses to Curtis that she changed Heather’s test results. Curtis assures her that no one else should find out (even though Ava knows). Later, Brad tells a tense Portia that he found out that Heather’s lab results had been altered, and he knows Portia used the lab’s computers that same day. He just wants her to know how hard he’s working, so she can vouch for him in the future, since he’s there on a trial basis. Portia tells him that she’s impressed with his work and suggests he give the report about the lab results to the police and the lawyers, without adding his own opinion about them. She promises to ask Terry to make him a full-time worker. He gives her the test results, reminding her that he has the original digital copy. She angrily tears them up after he leaves.

Chase calls Ric and Elizabeth into the PCPD to see if the gun they received matches the one Alexis had, but Ric isn’t sure. Elizabeth prods him into admitting it might be. Curtis gives Ric a hard time for representing Heather. Ric doesn’t think Heather is a threat to Curtis’ family because it was the metallosis due to the cobalt that made her crazy. He hopes she gets released.

Alexis is with Kristina in her cell when a guard comes to get Kristina;  she assumes Sonny confessed. Kristina, Michael and Sam meet in the courthouse, wondering what’s up. Molly and Kristina glare at each other throughout.

Dante wants Sonny to confess, but they’re interrupted. Later, Sonny tells Diane that the gun isn’t his, and he doesn’t know who sent it. Alexis arrives in court.

Elizabeth rants and raves to Terry at GH about Ric, but she’s worried that Lucky will leave again, abandoning Aiden. Later, Brad brings Elizabeth Heather’s test results. Then she gets an alert on her computer that they found a match for Lulu.

Dante confides to Anna that he was tempted to tell Sonny about the gun before he could confess because he didn’t want to have to explain to Rocco about why his grandfather was going to jail (especially with everything that’s going on with Lulu). She knows he loves Lulu.  He lets her know that he would give his life for her.

The charges against Alexis are dropped, since her gun doesn’t match – there is insufficient evidence. Alexis knows what Sonny did for her, and he admits that he’ll do what he can for the people he loves. Molly storms out, telling Michael that she still can’t be around Kristina. She blames her for everything that’s happened.

Primetime TV Review: High Potential

TV Review!

“High Potential” Review by Eva 10/13/2024

This is a new show based on a French tv show of the same name. The show stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan a single mother of three children who has an IQ of 160 and she is considered a high potential intellectual which means, among other things, that she notices details other people miss.

Morgan worries a lot about problems and sometimes loses sleep until the problem is resolved. Morgan works as a janitor for the LAPD and one day Selena (Judy Reyes) notices that Morgan has a natural ability to solve crimes. Selena decides to hire Morgan to help the major crime unit. Selena pairs Morgan with Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) who is skeptical of this experiment until Morgan helps him solve a case.

I enjoy these types of crime shows that aren’t too serious while they investigate crimes. They are fun for me to watch, although, other people may like more serious crime shows. I also like serious crime shows, but at times, I like humor mixed with crime solving.

If you enjoy shows like Monk, Castle and, Will Trent, you will like this show. It is well written and interesting to watch how Morgan’s mind works to solve a case.

I give this show a 4 out of 5 stars because the cast needs a few more episodes to find their rhythm. The show goes too fast and the viewers can miss important details in the episode.

The show airs on Tuesdays at 10 EST/9 CST on ABC. You can also stream the show on Hulu on Wednesdays.

Primetime TV Review: “Doctor Odyssey”

TV Review!

DOCTOR ODYSSEY - Key Art. (Disney)

“Doctor Odyssey” on ABC Review by Suzanne 10/7/24

At first glance, this seems like a slightly-more-dramatic version of “The Love Boat,” from the doctor’s point of view.  The series was created by Ryan Murphy, who usually comes up ideas that are either horrifying (“American Horror Story”) or at least, slightly-off-kilter (“Nip/Tuck”) or  very original (“Glee”). However, even at second glance, this show really does seem to be a just a breezy medical drama set aboard a cruise ship. I find it a little bit disappointing, just from the fact that Murphy created it and that it stars Joshua Jackson, who’s been excellent in so many series, from “Dawson’s Creek” to “Doctor Death.”

Jackson plays a renowned doctor, Max, who is looking for a more relaxing, fun life aboard a cruise ship after battling COVID and other horrors (he reveals in the first episode that he was “Patient Zero” in NYC and nearly died). The legendary Don Johnson plays the ship’s captain, who runs a tight ship and expects excellence from his crew.  (Who knew that Sonny Crockett would turn into Captain Stubing?) Max has two nurses that assist him, Avery (Phillipa Soo) and Tristan (Sean Teale). The ship, its crew, and the many medical maladies they encounter on board are not the easy life that Max expected.

Amid the health crises, there is plenty of time for romance, dancing, and drinking.  Max and Avery have a slight tryst in the first episode. The second episode is about “Singles Week.” Apparently, each weekly cruise has a different theme, to make it slightly more interesting. I guess Ryan Murphy is trying to pay tribute to the shows he loved in his youth on ABC (the same network where “The Love Boat” aired).  Although each episode has new guest stars, they’re not the center of all the action the way they were on the original “Love Boat” that ran from 1977-1986.  The show’s four main stars are the focus of the show, along with the ship and the beautiful scenery. Guest stars include Chord Overstreet, Shania Twain, John Stamos, Cheyenne Jackson, Gina Gershon and Rachel Dratch.

From what I’ve read, ABC is trying to sell this as exciting and sexy.  My advice is that you pour yourself a nice tropical drink and sit down to watch this one….but you may find that it’s not the drinking that makes you sleepy. I really hope it gets better. Otherwise, the talent on the series deserves better than this. FOX had a much better retro show with the “Fantasy Island” reboot that they canceled last year, sadly. I really enjoyed that one. ABC should have rescued that instead.
