Rafe goes to see Shawn at his home and says he’s heard Jada’s side of the story, so now he wants to hear his. Rafe questions how the hell Shawn could sleep with his fiancée.

Jada sits in her office, thinking back to Shawn finding her at the bar and questioning where her gun was.

Chanel makes tea for Paulina at home. Paulina admits to being peeved at Chanel for thinking she could have tried to kill EJ. Chanel blames that on Paulina being dramatic when she said she had something to confess about the night EJ was shot, but now she knows that she had nothing to do with it. Chanel admits she also thought that because she’s not in a good place right now. Paulina understands and knows how worried she is about Johnny. Chanel talks about Johnny being so lost and angry ever since he found out that EJ raped Sami and that’s how he was conceived. Chanel wishes she knew how to help him.

Sami talks to Sydney on the phone and says there’s no change in EJ. Sami adds that she hasn’t talked to the police yet but they have no idea who shot EJ, as Johnny then approaches her at the hospital.

Roman remains at the Pub and thinks back to putting his gun back in it’s lockbox. Kate enters the Pub and tells Roman that she’s so glad to see him. Kate asks if he’s okay. Roman responds that he has something to tell her. Kate says she has something to tell him first and reveals that Vivian is out of prison.

Xander goes home to the Kiriakis Mansion and asks Philip about him celebrating too. Vivian then interrupts. Xander questions her being out of prison and tells her to get out, asking what she’s doing there anyway. Vivian responds that she is moving in. Xander calls her delusional and declares that she will only be moving in over his dead body. Vivian remarks that it could be arranged. Xander asks if she’s threatening him but she claims to be just kidding. Xander calls her a malignant bitch with a heart of stone. Xander warns Vivian to walk out voluntarily before he and Philip throw her out themselves. Vivian then tells Xander that Philip won’t help because he’s the one who invited her to stay.

Roman questions Vivian being out of prison. Kate tells him that Vivian went straight to Philip because she still sees herself as a mother figure to him. Roman guesses that Vivian hopes Philip will cut her in on Titan and DiMera. Roman points out that Philip hates Vivian so he questions how she thinks he will give her anything. Kate thinks back to Vivian’s threats. Kate tells Roman that Vivian is certifiably insane. Kate says she would do anything for her children but it’s like one thing after another, so she feels at a breaking point. Roman offers to make her dinner. Kate stops him and reminds him that there was something he wanted to tell her.

Sami tells Sydney that she will call her as soon as she knows anything and hangs up. Johnny asks how Sydney is doing. Sami says she’s hanging in there and said she would call him. Sami invites Johnny to join her at the Pub and see Roman, but Johnny says he’s going back to Paulina’s and needs time to think. Sami understands and says she was nervous about their talk as she thought it would have been more contentious. Johnny admits it probably would have been if he hadn’t talked to Rafe. Johnny knows Sami is not to blame and eventually, they all have to take responsibility for their actions which Sami agrees with. Johnny tells Sami that he loves her as they hug. Sami remembers she was about to ask him something before Sydney called, but decides they’ll talk later and tells him to go home to his wife. Johnny says goodnight and exits the hospital.

Jada looks at her gun and thinks back to Shawn asking her about not having it at the bar. Jada then puts the gun in her drawer and locks it up.

Chanel tells Paulina that she does think EJ should be prosecuted for what he did to Sami and she does think it would give Johnny some peace of mind. Paulina responds that she’s planning to call a friend at the Senate about changing the statute of limitations. Chanel comments that women like Sami deserve justice while Paulina argues that EJ deserves to pay. Chanel admits she’s relieved that Paulina is not the one who shot EJ. Paulina remarks that whoever did, she kind of wants to give them a medal.

Johnny thanks Sami for telling him everything. Sami asks if he’s okay. Johnny responds that he will be, but when he found out that EJ did that to her, he was so angry and it felt like his whole world came crashing down and he couldn’t see straight. Sami assures that she understands but says she has to ask him something. Johnny asks what it is but they get interrupted by Sami getting a call from Sydney. Sami says she promised to call her after seeing EJ. Johnny tells her to go ahead so Sami rushes out of the room to answer the call. Johnny then turns back to look at EJ and thinks back to stealing Roman’s gun from the Pub.

Shawn tells Rafe that he’s sorry as he was in a really bad place at the time. Rafe questions if it’s because Belle was sleeping with EJ again and Shawn was using Jada to get back at Belle. Shawn argues that he cares about Jada and would never use her like that. Rafe questions if Shawn is saying he has feelings for Jada and this wasn’t a one time thing. Shawn says that’s not what he said and that he cares about Jada as a friend. Shawn argues that Jada did nothing wrong but he gets it if Rafe doesn’t want to be friends with him anymore. Shawn swears it was a one time thing and it’s over now because Jada loves Rafe. Shawn then gets a call from the police station and asks Rafe not to go anywhere because he wants to finish this conversation. After Shawn steps out of the room, Rafe finds a piece of Jada’s clothing on the couch and questions it being a one time thing.

Paulina meets Jada in her office and tells her that she’s been getting a lot of questions about EJ’s shooting and would love to be able to give them an answer. Jada responds that there is unfortunately nothing more to say. Paulina thought she brought Kristen in for questioning. Jada explains that Shawn and JJ found a gun in Kristen’s bag but they are waiting for ballistics to examine and they probably won’t have results until tomorrow. Paulina declares that if the bullet matches Kristen’s gun, she is their shooter but if not, they are back to square one. Paulina asks if she has any other suspects.

Johnny goes home to Paulina’s. Chanel hugs him and says she’s been texting him all night and was starting to worry. Johnny says he put his phone on silent when he got to the hospital. Chanel asks if he went to see EJ. Johnny explains that Chad came over and gave him a hard time while making him realize that it might be his last time to say anything to EJ. Johnny then reveals that he ran in to his mom and they finally got to talk about what happened between her and EJ.

Roman tells Kate that he just wanted to talk to her about EJ’s shooting, but they are interrupted by Sami arriving and surprising Roman. They hug and talk about how much they’ve missed each other. Sami says she got in a couple hours ago and went straight to the hospital to check on EJ’s condition, but she’s mostly here to have a good conversation with Johnny as she felt like a better talk to have in person. Roman asks how it went. Sami thinks it went okay but they don’t have to rehash it. Roman is sorry to put her in that position and doesn’t know why he opened his mouth. Kate takes the blame since she told Johnny everything, so if there’s anyone to blame, it would be her. Sami assures that she doesn’t blame either of them since it turned out okay and she probably needed to have that conversation a long time ago. Roman is relieved that she sees it that way and repeats that it’s just great to have her here as they hug. Sami says it’s so good to be home. Roman informs her that Rex is in town as well, so Sami hopes to see him. Roman invites Sami to join them for dinner but Sami says she’s not hungry and that she has one more stop to make before the end of the night.

Shawn comes back to the living room but finds that Rafe is gone.

Rafe goes home frustrated and imagines Jada going back to hook up with Shawn. Sami then shows up at Rafe’s door, surprising him.

Jada tells Paulina to focus on one thing at a time and Kristen is their main focus since she had opportunity, means, and motive. Paulina questions her motive. Jada brings up Rachel Blake’s disappearance. Jada says if EJ made that happen so she couldn’t testify against him. Paulina goes over how that would keep EJ out of prison but gave Kristen a reason to blow him away and calls it an interesting theory. Jada adds that they can hold Kristen for 24 hours which should give them enough time to get the ballistics report back. Paulina then orders Jada to go home, but Jada responds that she can’t. Paulina says it’s been a long day and she needs to recharge. Jada repeats that she can’t go home so Paulina guesses she hasn’t worked things out with Rafe. Jada confirms she hasn’t heard from him since last night. Paulina encourages her not to give up hope as there’s still time for Rafe to come to his senses.

Rafe tells Sami that he had no idea she was even in town. Sami says she just came for a little bit to see Johnny and be there for him. Rafe mentions running in to Johnny in the park the other day and how he knows what happened between her and EJ. Sami says they had a whole heart to heart about it and it went pretty well. Sami credits Rafe for that since Johnny said Rafe told him to go easy on her, so luckily he still cares what Rafe thinks. Rafe is glad they had a good talk but guesses she didn’t come all this way just to thank him. Sami admits she has an ulterior motive. Sami points out Rafe no longer being on the police force, so she wants to tell him something that stays between them which Rafe agrees to. Sami tells Rafe that she’s really worried about Johnny as he was so angry when he found out what EJ did and she doesn’t blame him. Sami then wonders if Johnny decided to do something about it and take matters in to his own hands. Sami asks Rafe what if Johnny is the one who shot EJ.

Chanel asks Johnny how talking to Sami about what happened went. Johnny says he had a million questions but thought it would be better to just listen to her story. Chanel asks if she was able to help him understand. Johnny guesses maybe he understands it a little better, but he’ll never understand it entirely. Johnny adds that he does understand how much he loves his mom and maybe that’s all that matters. Johnny admits he feels closer to her than ever, even if his dad does feel like a complete stranger now. Johnny will never be able to understand how EJ could do that to Sami and admits he’s so angry and he doesn’t know if he’ll ever get past it.

Xander questions Philip inviting Vivian to move in, reminding him that Maggie lives here and Vivian tortured her. Xander says this makes no sense and asks why Philip would agree to this unless she has something on him. Philip claims not to know what he’s talking about. Xander argues that Philip wouldn’t let Vivian near the house unless she was holding something over him. Philip then admits that Vivian is blackmailing him but claims it’s emotional blackmail by lording their mother-son bond over him, so like it or not, they are connected by that. Xander thought he couldn’t stand her. Philip states that whether he likes it or not, Vivian is the woman who gave him life and without her, he wouldn’t be where he is today.

Roman tells Kate that he can’t imagine how difficult it was for Sami to talk to Johnny about what happened. Kate says maybe it’s better that it all came out in the open and that Johnny knows the truth. Roman says maybe in time, but right now he’s suffering. Roman brings up the look in his eye last night showing total hatred for his father. Roman calls it the same look he’s had when dealing with EJ for the last two decades. Kate reminds Roman that he wanted to talk to her about EJ’s shooting. Roman informs Kate that he thought she should know that Rex found a gun in her room. Kate questions why Rex was going through her drawers. Roman explains that he was looking for a pen. Kate calls it no secret that she owns a gun. Roman brings up how Kate thought EJ was behind Rex’s accident, so he couldn’t help but wonder if maybe Kate sought revenge. Kate questions the idea that she would shoot EJ in cold blood and if her son now thinks she’s a would-be murderer.

Chanel asks Johnny how it went seeing EJ. Johnny informs her that when Sami stepped out on a phone call, it gave him a couple minutes alone with his dad and he really tried to think of all the good memories he had of him. Johnny tells her about Christmas when he was 7 years old and how EJ had them donate presents to a local shelter to show them the importance of sharing. Johnny says at the time, he thought EJ may be the best guy alive and he later learned he wasn’t a saint but he knew they loved each other. Chanel asks what about now. Johnny responds that despite trying really hard to think of all the good, all he could see was the man who raped his mother. Johnny says he saw EJ lying in the bed, fighting for his life, and all he could think was that he got what he deserved.

Rafe questions if Sami seriously thinks Johnny shot his own father. Sami says she doesn’t want to, but she feels Johnny is hiding something from her. Sami asks Rafe what his instincts are telling him. Rafe says Johnny didn’t do it as he’s a good kid and he wouldn’t do it. Sami decides if that’s what Rafe thinks, she will believe it. Sami brings up all the ledges that Rafe has talked her off of and thanks him. Sami says she will get out of his hair as she’s sure he has plans but Rafe says he’s just drowning his sorrows in a six pack so Sami asks what’s wrong. Rafe informs Sami that he’s engaged. Sami remembers that Johnny told her but she thought they were supposed to be married already. Rafe tells her that was the plan, so Sami asks if something happened. Rafe says you could say that.

Roman tells Kate that Rex wasn’t accusing her of anything and was just concerned. Kate says Philip had that concern too, so two of her sons must think of her as a trigger-happy maniac. Kate acknowledges that she has shot people before like Vivian and Clyde, who both deserved it. Roman says one could argue that Kate thinks EJ deserved it. Kate assures that she did not shoot EJ. Kate asks if Roman believes her.

Johnny asks Chanel if it makes him a terrible person to think his dad got what he deserved. Chanel responds that thoughts aren’t actions, so he’s entitled to feel whatever he’s feeling. Johnny says maybe he would feel differently if EJ faced consequences for what he did, but there were never even any charges filed. Chanel informs him that Paulina was thinking the same thing so she went to see if there was a chance of prosecuting EJ for what happened all those years ago. Johnny doesn’t think Sami would want to go through all that. Chanel says that Paulina planned to call a friend from the Senate to see if they could do anything. Johnny appreciates her checking in to all that but points out that it might not even matter if EJ doesn’t make it. Chanel asks if they have any suspects. Johnny admits he didn’t ask. Chanel suggests maybe Jada has some leads.

Jada goes to Shawn’s to retrieve her things that she left as she thanks him for letting her stay last night. Shawn tells Jada that if she still needs a place to crash, she’s more than welcome to stay there. Jada informs him that Stephanie is letting her stay at her place again but thanks him again. Shawn tells Jada that Rafe stopped by right before she did and wanted to talk. Shawn says he tried to explain to Rafe what happened between them and reassure him that it would not happen again, but he got a call and when he came back, Rafe was gone.

Rafe informs Sami of Arnold Feniger’s recent return. Sami is shocked as she thought he was dead. Sami remarks that Arnold has some nerve showing his face in Salem. Rafe is sorry as it’s bringing up another awful memory for her. Sami says she’s so disgusted that EJ would do this to Rafe again. Rafe tells Sami that Arnold made Jada’s life a living hell and tried to ruin her career, then he ended up sleeping with a stripper. Sami comments that Jada must have been devastated, thinking Rafe did all those things. Rafe then reveals that Jada was so devastated that she found her way in to Shawn’s bed which shocks Sami. Rafe says it was about a month ago, but Jada just told him about it. Sami points out that Jada was going through a lot and she’s sure Rafe understands that. Sami then questions what Rafe did. Rafe admits he sort of freaked out and told Jada not to come home because he wanted to be alone. Rafe argues that Jada should’ve known Arnold wasn’t him. Sami tells him how absurd that sounds. Rafe acknowledges that he does now, but he was angry and he’s still hurt. Rafe says he was starting to see things from her point of view, but then he just came from Shawn’s where he found her blouse on his couch from the night before. Rafe says that Jada obviously spent the night, so whatever happened a month ago wasn’t just a one time thing.

Philip tells Xander that he knows he should’ve asked him before moving Vivian in and he’s sorry about that. Xander supposes the house is half Philip’s, so if he wants to move her in, it’s his funeral. Xander adds that Philip can be the one to break the news to Maggie as he walks out. Vivian admits to Philip that for a moment, she thought Philip was going to tell Xander that she forged the letter. Philip admits he was tempted and tells Vivian not to make him regret it. Vivian warns Philip that his secret is safe with her as long as Kate agrees to send Xander to an early grave. Vivian then walks out of the room. Philip looks back at the portrait of Victor and remarks that an early grave doesn’t look so bad right now.

Kate asks Roman for an answer, hoping he knows that she didn’t shoot EJ. Roman thinks back again to returning his gun to the lockbox. Roman then tells Kate that she did not shoot EJ and he’s certain of it. Kate thanks him, feeling at least someone believes she’s innocent as she hugs him.

Chanel tells Johnny that she knows he needs time to process everything he’s learned about his parents but she wants to make sure he doesn’t get consumed by the rage and to focus on the good things in his life like her. Johnny calls her the best thing in his life as they hug. Chanel suggests going to bed early after the day he’s had. Johnny says that sounds excellent and that he loves her as they kiss and then head to the bedroom.

Jada questions Shawn about Rafe just leaving without saying anything. Shawn says he was pretty pissed off but for a second, he actually thought he was getting through to him. Jada asks if Rafe knew she spent the night. Shawn says no as he thought it was best if he didn’t know that so he didn’t get the wrong idea…

Rafe tells Sami that he can’t believe it only took one fight for Jada to go running back to Shawn. Sami says she’s so sorry. Rafe feels like such an idiot because he thought he would come home and get his life back, but it seems like Arnold has taken it with him. Sami calls Rafe a good man and says she’s been doing some soul searching. Sami admits it took a long time for her to realize just how messed up and toxic her relationship with EJ was. Sami adds that there are a lot of things and choices she would’ve made differently, like not taking Rafe for granted. Sami says she wouldn’t have let him get away. Sami feels she didn’t treat Rafe fairly when he was the most healthy relationship she’d ever been in. Sami wants Rafe to know that she knows how good he was to her and that he treated her better than she deserved. Sami declares that her happiest memories are with Rafe as she was so happy. Rafe responds that he was too as he and Sami end up kissing.

In the hospital, Sami tells EJ that their daughter Sydney loves and misses him. Sami says that Johnny is just upset right now and asks how else he’s supposed to feel after finding out what happened between them which eclipses everything else. Sami doesn’t know what to say to Johnny and has no idea how to explain how she fell in love with EJ after what he did to her. Johnny then arrives and tells Sami that now is her chance.

Rex talks to someone on the phone about getting together when he gets back to Chicago. Rex says to give him the address and he just needs to find a pen as he opens a drawer and finds Kate’s gun.

Paulina sits at home with the article on EJ’s shooting as Chanel comes home and greets her. Chanel asks if she’s seen Johnny. Paulina says no one was home when she came in, so Chaenl wonders where he could be.

Sami hugs Johnny and tells him that she missed him so much and it’s so good to see him. Johnny asks when she got to town. Sami says not too long ago. Johnny questions her coming to see EJ. Sami says she came to see Johnny. Johnny questions that since he called her like seven times. Johnny asks why Sami even cares if EJ lives or dies after what he did to her.

Philip goes home to the Kiriakis Mansion and toasts to the portrait of Victor, wishing he could be there to celebrate with them. Kate comes in and says Victor would be so proud of him right now, as she is. Philip proposes a toast but they are interrupted by Vivian Alamain, who says they can’t start a celebration without her! Philip questions what she’s doing there. Kate argues that Vivian has obviously escaped from prison again. Vivian reveals that the judge decided she paid her debt to society. Kate argues that she had years left on her sentence. Vivian declares that she’s a free woman and shows them her release papers. Philip questions what Vivian is doing in Salem instead of going home to Alamania. Vivian says she couldn’t leave without seeing him. Philip asks if she just came to say goodbye to him. Vivian says yes but also to get what is hers.

Rex finishes his call and questions what the hell Kate has done as he looks at the gun.

Sami questions how Johnny could think she would want his father to die. Johnny assumed she would be dancing on his grave after what he did to her. Sami assures that she is not and she would never want the father of two of her children dead. Johnny remarks that he wouldn’t even be here if it wasn’t for EJ forcing her to sleep with him.

At the bar, Sarah and Xander toast to taking control of DiMera. Sarah says she knows Victor would be as proud of him as she is. Xander says he can’t take all the credit. Sarah acknowledges Philip and Alex. Xander says he was talking about her. Sarah questions what she did. Xander says he couldn’t do any of it without her and talks about putting his old vendettas behind him because of her. Xander talks about being able to share Titan with Philip and being a great team, so now he has something he never even knew he wanted in a real relationship with his brother.

Vivian reminds Philip and Kate that she is the reason Philip is in control of Titan, thanks to the letter that she forged. Vivian adds that her and Philip’s agreement was that they would share the spoils, so she wants her half.

Roman goes to Kate’s room and is surprised to see Rex is in town, questioning why he didn’t tell him. Rex explains that he just wanted to show Kate that he’s okay after the hit and run accident. Roman brings up that Kate thought EJ was behind it. Rex says he heard from Philip that Kate was worked up about that and questions what got EJ so pissed at Kate. Roman informs Rex that Kate told Johnny something that EJ never wanted him to know.

Chanel questions why Johnny isn’t responding to her texts. Paulina notes how worried she is about him. Chanel talks about how cold Johnny reacted to the news of EJ being shot and how he didn’t even want to go to the hospital. Paulina asks if she can blame him after what he learned about EJ. Chanel expects Johnny to be angry and disappointed, but argues that EJ could die and she knows Johnny loves him. Paulina argues that Johnny loves his mother too and she was violated by EJ, then he found out that’s how he came in to this world. Paulina is not sure how she would react if it were here.

Johnny tells Sami that he’s so sorry that EJ did that to her and feels like he was a reminder of it. Sami tells him that whatever happened between her and EJ had nothing to do with him. Johnny doesn’t understand how Sami went on to marry EJ after he manipulated and took advantage of her. Johnny wonders how Sami fell in love with the man who raped her.

Xander presents Sarah with a pearl necklace that’s identical to the one Victor got Maggie for their tenth anniversary. Xander says that his father wanted nothing but the best for his Mrs. Kiriakis, so he feels it’s only right that he does the same for his. Sarah gets emotional and hands it back, saying she doesn’t deserve it.

Vivian hopes Philip isn’t considering going back on their deal. Philip assures that he wants to fulfill his end of the bargain but things have gotten complicated and it has to be done carefully as to not raise suspicions. Philip adds that they will have to set up accounts and shell corporations. Vivian argues that he had plenty of time to figure that out and she knows he’s stalling. Vivian adds that the agreement was not half and half, arguing that the DiMera takeover changes things. Vivian doesn’t like the idea of sharing with Xander. Philip says he can’t do anything about Xander owning half of the company. Vivian says he just has to be creative which Philip questions. Vivian declares that she has a solution and that is that Xander has to die.

Rex is shocked to hear about Johnny learning how he was conceived. Roman knows it had to be really hard to hear. Rex insists it’s not on Roman or Kate as EJ is the villian. Roman says it looks like EJ may finally be paying for some of his sins. Rex brings up that Kate told him that Kristen was brought in for questioning. Roman confirms that the police found her with a gun. Rex then reveals that Kristen’s not the only one with a gun as he opens the drawer, showing Kate’s gun to Roman.

Chanel tells Paulina that she will never understand why some men use their power over women like that. Paulina argues that men like EJ only think about what they need. Chanel says that what EJ did to Sami was disgusting. Paulina calls it hardly surprising and says it’s no wonder that Amy Choi doesn’t want EJ anywhere near her grandbaby. Chanel points out that if EJ is in a coma, he won’t be. Paulina asks if she thinks Amy would reconsider. Chanel says this isn’t how she wanted it to happen. Paulina then tells her that she has a confession to make about the night EJ was shot.

Sami tells Johnny that she’s asked herself a million times how she could fall in love with the man who hurt her and did that to her. Sami admits she dreaded Johnny knowing as she never wanted he or his sisters to know. Johnny points out that Will knew. Sami says she hated that too. Sami encourages that Johnny will be a great father one day and he will know what it’s like to want to protect his kids from the harshest parts of the world. Johnny asks if she really thought this moment would never come. Sami admits she hoped it wouldn’t because she wanted to protect his relationship with his father. Johnny asks if EJ asked her to. Sami says no and that she just didn’t want him to see her as a pathetic victim who fell in love with the man who forced himself on her. Johnny says he could never see her that way and calls her the strongest person he knows. Sami argues that if she was strong, she would’ve talked to him about this when he first asked but she was scared. Sami says she’s spent two decades trying to figure out how she could fall in love with EJ and she doesn’t know if any answer is right, but Johnny deserves the whole story and deserves to know who she really is and where she came from.

Xander questions Sarah saying she doesn’t deserve the pearl necklace. Xander argues that she’s everything to him and calls her an incredible person. Sarah asks him to stop. Xander doesn’t understand why she’s getting so upset. Sarah responds that she feels so guilty which Xander questions.

Philip questions if Vivian is seriously considering killing Xander. Vivian clarifies that someone else will have to pull the trigger. Philip tells her that he’s not going to murder his own brother for any reason. Vivian remarks that if he has to keep his hands clean, then Kate can do it.

Roman informs Rex that he’s aware that Kate has a gun while Rex feels Roman looked pretty surprised to see it. Roman explains that Kate usually keeps it in her purse or locked up in the safe, so Rex questions what the hell it’s doing in the drawer. Rex brings up that Kate was upset about his injury and rattled by EJ’s threats, so he wonders if Kate took matters in to her own hands.

Chanel questions Paulina having something to confess about the night of the shooting. Paulina clarifies that she did not shoot EJ, so Chanel asks what the confession is. Paulina confesses that the night that EJ was shot, she took a late night meeting with the district attorney as she was trying to find out if EJ could still be charged with Sami’s rape, but the statute of limitations had run out. Paulina declares that she’s not giving up and if EJ comes out of his coma, she wants him put in prison.

Sami informs Johnny that she’s been talking to a therapist which Marlena pleaded with her to do for years. Sami says she tried before but it never worked and now she’s been doing it consistently. Sami admits it’s strange explaining herself to a stranger. Johnny asks what made her finally decide to get in to therapy. Sami talks about not wanting to make the same mistakes over and over and thinking about all of her regrets that she can’t change. Sami says that when she found out Lucas had her kidnapped, it was a shock as she didn’t realize how bad their cycle was so she realized if she didn’t talk to someone, she would end up in the cell next to him. Johnny asks if she feels like therapy is helping. Sami admits she hated it at first as it’s uncomfortable bringing up a lot of painful memories, but she’s not a quitter and she’s doing the work. Sami feels she’s figuring things out about the choices she’s made. Johnny asks if she’s talked about what EJ did to her in therapy. Sami confirms that she eventually got to it, but she’s had other experiences with trauma and sexual violence. Johnny guesses that she means Arnold Feniger. Sami says him too, but she has to start at the beginning. Sami informs Johnny that when she was in high school, she had a crush on a guy named Alan Harris and she thought he liked her too, but he was obsessed with her sister Carrie and she was just a pathetic substitute. Sami says she didn’t know it at the time, but he turned out to be a very bad person. Johnny asks what he did to her. Sami gets emotional as she reveals to Johnny that Alan raped her. Johnny hugs Sami as she cries that she’s so sorry. Sami tells Johnny that he has to understand what happened to Alan is not the same as what happened with Arnold or with EJ and she’s had other toxic relationships, but when she puts it all together and thinks about the story of her life, she realizes there are patterns which Johnny questions. Sami blames choices she made on her not thinking very much of herself and put up with criminal behavior because she didn’t think she deserved better. Johnny argues that she can’t actually think she deserved any of this. Sami understands that no one deserves to be violated or raped, but for a long time, she didn’t think she deserved to be loved. Johnny calls that crazy. Sami says she’s just sort of broken and brings up what Stefano did to her family by taking her parents when they were little and robbing her the chance of a real childhood. Johnny imagines that scarred her. Sami says she didn’t realize then, but looking back now she can see the damage. Sami doesn’t know how Carrie and Eric turned out so great, but says they managed to survive and she didn’t. Sami talks about being afraid, angry, and lonely until her parents came back, but she never got past the feeling of abandonment and calls it an emotional roller coaster. Sami recalls the night that she walked in on Marlena cheating on Roman with John. Johnny knows that Stefano really messed with them, making them believe that John was Roman for all those years. Sami admits that she blamed John and Marlena and took everything out on Carrie. Sami talks about when she was obsessed with Austin and thought she could make him love her. Sami states that she was the abuser in that relationship which Johnny questions. Sami then reveals that she drugged Austin and tricked him in to having sex with her. Sami calls it really stupid and says she was young and an idiot, but thought if Austin slept with her then he would love her. Sami adds that she did a lot of other terrible things, so it’s amazing that Austin and Carrie managed to forgive her. Sami calls it a long time ago and says then she met EJ which was very tumultuous. Sami brings up the night that Lucas was in trouble and EJ was there to offer her the deal that if she slept with him, he would save Lucas’s life. Sami explains that it felt like karma. Johnny argues that nobody deserves what happened to her, no matter what kind of mistakes they’ve made. Sami says she knows that now, but she didn’t understand it then. Johnny guesses it was like she was punishing herself and feeling like she deserved it. Sami says maybe that was part of it, but she knows that after everything they’ve been through, she really loved EJ, probably more than any other man. Sami cries that even with everything they did to each other, she knows that EJ loved her too. Sami tells Johnny that she can’t take back everything that she and EJ did to each other, but she can promise that she will always be grateful to EJ for giving her one of the greatest gifts of her life by giving her Johnny. Sami hugs Johnny as they both shed tears.

Rex asks Roman if Kate shot EJ. Roman turns away and thinks back to talking to Kate about EJ threatening her children. Roman then tells Rex that Kate did not shoot EJ. Rex says he wants to believe that, but questions how he can be so sure.

Kate asks Vivian if prison robbed her of whatever sense she had left because she’s not going to commit murder just so Vivian can sink her talons in to Titan. Vivian threatens to call Xander to ask what he’ll offer for her information then. Kate accuses her of bluffing. Vivian says she might not be and asks if they are willing to take that risk.

Sarah tells Xander how much she loves him. Xander stops her and says he knows exactly what this is about. Xander guesses she’s still troubled over how he and Philip usd Kristen and EJ’s weakness to seize DiMera. Xander understands but says that he and Philip don’t have any demands with DiMera and they are sensitive to the employees needing a job. Xander declares that the only person losing their job is Kristen, especially if she shot her own brother. Xander knows Sarah doesn’t have the stomach for corporate power plays, crediting her empathy and big heart being what makes her a great doctor. Xander calls that a big part of why he loves her so much and suggests they continue their celebration at home but Sarah gets paged back to the hospital. Sarah tells him that she’ll be back as soon as she can as they kiss.

Philip questions if Vivian would stab him in the back over money. Vivian argues that she has a lifestyle to uphold, so if he doesn’t give her half of Titan, she will blow up his life. Kate calls her disgusting. Vivian tells them to mull it over while she goes to freshen up. Philip asks Kate what the hell they are going to do.

Roman remains at the Pub and thinks back to putting his gun back in it’s lockbox. Kate enters the Pub and tells Roman that she’s so glad to see him. Kate asks if he’s okay. Roman responds that he has something to tell her.

Xander goes home to the Kiriakis Mansion and asks Philip about him celebrating too. Vivian then interrupts. Xander questions her being out of prison and tells her to get out, asking what she’s doing there anyway. Vivian responds that she is moving in.

Chanel tells Paulina that she does think EJ should be prosecuted for what he did to Sami and she does think it would give Johnny some peace of mind. Paulina responds that she’s planning to call a friend at the Senate about changing the statute of limitations. Chanel comments that women like Sami deserve justice while Paulina argues that EJ deserves to pay. Chanel admits she’s relieved that Paulina is not the one who shot EJ. Paulina remarks that whoever did, she kind of wants to give them a medal.

Johnny thanks Sami for telling him everything. Sami asks if he’s okay. Johnny responds that he will be, but when he found out that EJ did that to her, he was so angry and it felt like his whole world came crashing down and he couldn’t see straight. Sami assures that she understands but says she has to ask him something. Johnny asks what it is but they get interrupted by Sami getting a call from Sydney. Sami says she promised to call her after seeing EJ. Johnny tells her to go ahead so Sami rushes out of the room to answer the call. Johnny then turns back to look at EJ and thinks back to stealing Roman’s gun from the Pub.

Gabi thinks back to preparing to enter the DiMera Mansion with a gun on the night that EJ was shot. Philip and Xander then appear in her office. Gabi questions what they are doing in her office. Philip responds that she means their office as Xander announces all of this belongs to them now.

Sarah joins Alex in the living room of the Kiriakis Mansion. Alex tells her that his inbox has been blowing up ever since it all went down which Sarah questions. Alex then informs her that Titan just took over DiMera Enterprises.

Gabi questions what Xander just said. Xander declares that Titan just took over DiMera Enterprises which means Gabi Chic is now their subsidiary. Philip warns Gabi to consider her next words wisely because she’s looking at her new bosses.

Johnny sits at Paulina’s, reading the article on EJ’s shooting. Johnny thinks back from stealing Roman’s gun from behind the bar at the Pub.

Kate is in her room and gets breaking news on her phone that Kristen has been brought in for questioning after police discovered she was carrying a gun in her handbag. Kate then pulls her gun out of her purse and remarks that she’s not the only one.

Belle sits at EJ’s side and admits that she loves him, right as her sister Sami arrives! Sami remarks “isn’t that sweet?”

Johnny answers the door as Chad arrives and says he just wanted to see how he was holding up. Johnny responsd that he’s fine. Chad asks if he’s sure and says he doesn’t look fine. Chad adds that he must be worried about his dad. Chad mentions that he called and found out Johnny never showed up at the hospital. Johnny responds that maybe he doesn’t care if EJ lives or dies.

Belle tells Sami that she didn’t know she was coming home. Sami says she might have assumed after the father of her children was shot and is in a coma. Sami adds that they are divorced but she still cares about him, then remarks that she’s not the only one in the family who does.

Kate hides her gun in the drawer as there’s a knock at her door. Kate answers her door and is surprised by her son Rex arriving with his arm in a sling. They hug as Kate asks why he didn’t tell her that he was coming. Rex says he wanted to prove to her that he was okay after his car accident. Kate worries about the hit and run. Rex informs Kate that the driver is in custody as they speak.

Sarah tells Alex that she knew Xander and Philip were planning to take over DiMera but she didn’t think it would happen so fast. Alex guesses they figured now was the ideal time to make a move with EJ in a coma and Kristen on a wanted poster. Alex then declares that Philip now owns two companies that he has no right to.

Philip explains to Gabi that with the DiMeras imploding, it wasn’t hard to convince Wei Shin that Rome was burning and they had the fire hoses. Philip and Xander admit that Wei Shin was instrumental in allowing them to take over.

Chad gets that Johnny is angry at his father and assumes it has something to do with his article on their family, so he apologizes for not telling him before Leo published it. Johnny responds that part of him is glad he put the article out, exposing EJ for who he really is as people deserve to know. Johnny says it makes him sick to his stomach what he did to Rafe. Johnny adds that their adoption was all set to go through with Tate and Sophia’s baby, so he and Chanel were going to be parents and he’s never seen her more happy until Amy read the article about the heinous things that EJ is responsible for and called it off because she didn’t want her grandchild growing up in a family full of felons. Chad tells Johnny that he’s so sorry as it must be so hard for them. Johnny assures that it’s not his fault. Johnny admits that most of the stuff in the article about EJ didn’t surprise him, but what he’s really struggling with now is finding out what his dad did to his mom.

Sami informs Belle that she heard her tell EJ that she loves him. Belle tells Sami that she’s not supposed to be in here as EJ isn’t allowed visitors. Sami questions what Belle is. Belle responds that she’s the district attorney who will hopefully be prosecuting his shooter. Belle questions how Sami got past the guard. Sami responds that she told the guard that she’s family which is true. Sami asks if Belle is going to have her thrown out. Belle says she won’t and asks if they can just be civil. Sami comments on walking in on her baby sister telling the father of her children that she loves him and then Belle acting like she’s the intruder. Belle decides she will go. Sami tells Belle that she won’t shame her for who she’s sleeping with since she’s a grown woman who can sleep with who she wants. Sami remarks that last time she saw them together when she was in town, it was obvious that EJ was using her as a substitute for her. Belle tells Sami that is no longer the case because EJ pursued her relentlessly.

Sarah tells Alex that Philip is Victor’s son and was appointed as CEO before so it’s not like he’s some impostor. Alex argues about the forged letter and calls Sarah’s decision foolish for lying to her husband over it. Sarah argues that Alex knows her reasons and says she felt bad for Philip as she believes that Victor would have wanted him to have some role in the company. Alex knows Sarah wanted to use Philip as a check on Xander’s power and declares that now they are both drunk on power. Sarah knows it’s upsetting and change is hard, but it does seem to be working out well for all involved. Alex says except for the DiMeras as well as he and Stephanie. Alex remarks that it was bad enough that Sarah dragged Stephanie in to this lie but now she’s got him keeping the secret too. Alex promises Sarah that he’s not okay with it.

Gabi questions Xander and Philip thinking they can pull this off. Xander responds that they already have. Gabi thought they hated each other. Philip says that’s all in the past as they have now happily reconciled. Gabi calls it nauseating for them to capitalize on EJ being in a coma. Xander mocks the idea of Gabi being concerned for EJ. Philip argues that Gabi was probably planning her own takeover. Philip brings up when Gabi and Jake tried to take over the company and sack him, warning that there might be repercussions this time around. Gabi says they disgust him. Philip questions her talking to her new bosses like that. Xander adds that if she hates the idea of working for them, she can quit. Gabi responds that she will, but Xander warns that if she does, Gabi Chic stays with them.

Kate asks Rex about the police knowing who hit him. Rex says it was just some guy with a suspended license who was tormented by guilt that came back to turn himself in. Rex tells Kate that some people do the right thing sometimes. Rex guesses Kate is surprised because she thought EJ was behind it.

Sami questions Belle saying that EJ pursued her and says she can’t say that surprises her. Sami talks about Belle and Shawn being together so long and the divorce being traumatic, so she understands why Belle would run to EJ for comfort. Sami declares that she washed her hands of EJ and doesn’t give a damn who he sleeps with. Belle comments that it doesn’t seem like it. Sami tells Belle that she feels sorry for her and argues that EJ is sleeping with her as another notch on his bedpost. Sami tells Belle that she’s welcome to her leftovers. Belle wants to know why Sami is here if she washed her hands of EJ and is over him, but she flew over the ocean to be right by his side. Sami tells Belle that there’s no jury here for her to impress. Sami states that she came to see Johnny and she’s back in Salem for her son.

Johnny explains to Chad how he was talking to Roman, who let something slip and then Kate told him the rest of the story about his mom and dad and how he was conceived. Johnny guesses Chad knew the whole time and asks if everyone knew but him. Chad says not everyone but it wasn’t his place to say anything. Chad says they were all trying to protect him because they knew how upsetting it would be. Johnny calls it a lot more than upsetting because everything he thought he knew about his life and family is all a lie. Chad disagrees and says he’s his family and he’s here for him which is not a lie. Johnny says unlike his mom. Johnny knows Sami knows that he knows, but he hasn’t heard anything from her and doesn’t know if he will because she’s obviously staying as far away from the situation as possible…

Belle asks Sami what’s going on with Johnny and if he’s okay. Sami is surprised EJ didn’t tell her and explains that Kate decided to tell Johnny the entire story of how he was conceived. Belle can’t imagine how painful that must be. Sami remarks that Johnny is only Belle’s nephew, so she doesn’t have to check on him since she’s too busy with EJ.

Sarah tells Alex that she and Stephanie talked and Stephanie told her that he agreed to go along with keeping the secret from Xander, so she’s grateful for that. Sarah needs to know that Alex hasn’t changed his mind. Alex complains that she put Stephanie in a terrible position when she begged her to lie for the sake of her marriage and then compounded the lie by letting Xander think Philip was still sleeping with Stephanie which made her look like a cheater and him like an idiot. Sarah says she understands and she’s sorry. Alex tells her she should be.

Xander asks Gabi if she thought she would take her company with her. Gabi shouts that Gabi Chic is her company that she built and owns. Philip reveals that per the agreement of the merger, her contract is null and void so Gabi Chic is now fully owned by Titan. Philip adds that Wei Shin is not her biggest fan and sold her down the river without thinking twice. Xander tells Gabi that she is the face of Gabi Chic and is more than welcome to stay as long as she’s willing to be a team player and work for them. Gabi says she needs time to think about it but Xander declares that she needs to decide right here and right now.

Kate asks Rex why he thinks she would think EJ was behind it. Rex informs her that Philip called and told him that EJ threatened her sons, so he questions why she didn’t tell him. Kate explains that she figured it would be Philip because he lives in Salem. Rex says that makes sense but it’s safe to say that EJ wasn’t behind his accident, so he thinks she can stop worrying about EJ. Kate responds that she already has.

Chad asks Johnny about Sami knowing that he knows what happened between her and EJ. Johnny explains that he called and left a voicemail but she couldn’t even bother to call him back. Johnny complains that Sami lied to him all his life and can’t even pick up the phone to call her own son. Chad is sure it’s difficult for her to talk about. Johnny feels Sami owes him an explanation as to why she didn’t just leave EJ after he did that to her. Johnny doesn’t want to sound like he’s blaming the victim, but Sami chose to stay with EJ, marry him, and have another child with him. Johnny tells Chad not to try and defend his parents to him. Chad says he won’t, but points out that no matter what he thinks of EJ, he is his father and he loves him. Chad adds that EJ is in critical condition and might have died if not for being put in a medically induced coma. Chad warns Johnny that EJ still might die, so if he doesn’t go see him now, he might not ever get the chance.

Belle tells Sami that she can’t do this right now. Sami stops and tells Belle that she is sorry about John. Belle thanks her and acknowledges her concern. Sami asks if there are any leads. Belle says there’s nothing substantial but Marlena and Steve are out trying to track John down with Paul and Andrew’s help. Belle decides she should call Marlena and check in. Sami says to tell her that she loves her and that she’s praying John comes home soon. Belle agrees to do that and asks Sami if she’s leaving with her. Sami responds that she has a few things to say to EJ as Belle then exits the room.

Alex asks Sarah if she has any idea what she’s asking of him, complaining how it’s made him look like he couldn’t hold onto the woman he loves. Alex talks about how this situation is for him after he took Xander’s place as the Kiriakis heir for months only to find out he was lied to and played for a fool like Theresa. Alex says he should’ve expected that from someone like Theresa. Sarah tells Alex that she didn’t do any of this for selfish reasons and he didn’t either as he genuinely thought he was Victor’s son. Alex admits it went to his head and he was an ass to his entire family which he deeply regrets, but this situation is doing nothing for his guilty conscience. Alex shouts that he’s basically helping Philip pull off the same con. Sarah encourages him to look at the bigger picture that Xander and Philip are getting along and working together better than ever. Alex acknowledges that’s why he hasn’t told the truth. Alex comments on how Wallstreet only cares about how the captains can steer the ship. Alex declares that as much as he hates this, what’s done is done and he really doesn’t have much of a choice. Alex then walks out of the room.

Gabi guesses she doesn’t have much of a choice which Xander confirms. Philip remarks that Gabi can go waitress at the Bistro. Gabi tells them to stop the taunting while they joke that they’re enjoying it. Philip and Xander suggest Gabi should thank Kristen because if she hadn’t allegedly shot EJ, they never would have pulled this off. Philip asks if she has any questions or concerns. Gabi says no, so they tell her they will see her tomorrow. Xander decides he will call Sarah to ask if she wants to have a celebratory drink and invites Philip. Philip accepts and asks if Gabi wants to come along.

Kate informs Rex that EJ was shot. Rex is surprised and asks if they know who did it. Kate responds that Kristen was brought in for questioning after having a gun in her purse. Rex says dysfunctional doesn’t begin to cover the DiMeras. Rex asks if Kate thinks Kristen did it but Kate is interrupted by a text from Philip, who wants to see her as he’s celebrating some good news about Titan. Rex says he’s happy for whatever it is. Kate tells Rex to stay in her room until she gets back and then they can have dinner with Roman. Kate tells Rex that she’s glad he’s there as she really missed him. Rex says the same as they hug.

Johnny tells Chad that he knows he means well, but he has no desire to see his father. Chad says he knows and that he doesn’t have to forgive him, but he should at least take the chance to say what might end up being goodbye. Chad argues that Johnny and EJ had a good relationship most of their life which Johnny calls irrelevant now. Chad relates to he and his mother having a very complicated relationship while things ended badly, so he would give anything to go back and make things right before she died. Johnny says he’s sorry about that, but there’s nothing EJ can do or say to make this right. Chad gets that Johnny might hate EJ now, but he has no idea how he will feel in a month or a year. Chad doesn’t want Johnny to live with the guilt like he has because it’s a heavy burden to carry. Chad says he’s not saying this for EJ, but for Johnny because he’s his nephew and he loves him. Chad says he can see that Johnny is struggling. Chad acknowledges that he’s a grown man who will make his own decision, but asks him to promise to think about it which Johnny agrees to do. Chad tells Johnny that he loves him and he’s always there for him as they hug. Chad declares that they are DiMeras and it’s always family above all else. Johnny thanks Chad and says he loves him too as Chad then exits.

Sami sits at EJ’s side and says she shouldn’t be surprised about he and Belle, joking that he’s always had terrible taste in women outside of her. Sami recalls how many hours she spent by his side in Italy after the fire and pleading for him to open his eyes. Sami urges EJ to pull out of this because whether he believes it or not, there are people that love him a lot.

Rex talks to someone on the phone about getting together when he gets back to Chicago. Rex says to give him the address and he just needs to find a pen as he opens a drawer and finds Kate’s gun.

Sami tells EJ that obviously not everyone loves him but some key people do, like his family, Tony, Chad, and Theo. Sami says she hasn’t been in Salem for awhile so she doesn’t know who is mad at who. Sami brings up their daughter Sydney and says she loves and misses him. Sami says that Johnny is just upset right now and asks how else he’s supposed to feel after finding out what happened between them which eclipses everything else. Sami doesn’t know what to say to Johnny and has no idea how to explain how she fell in love with EJ after what he did to her. Johnny then arrives and tells Sami that now is her chance.

Alex goes to Gabi’s office and guesses she heard the news. Gabi confirms that his obnoxious cousins came to impose their will. Alex says he’s sorry about all of that. Gabi warns Alex not to get too comfortable because she’s been in these co-CEO situations and eventually one will decide they want a solo career and it won’t be pretty with the threats, backstabbing, and lies. Gabi advises Alex to keep his head down and stay out of it.

Sarah joins Xander at the bar and congratulates him. Xander can’t believe it as Victor’s goal was always to smash DiMera and now Titan has full control of Stefano’s company. Xander wishes Victor was alive to see it.

Philip goes home to the Kiriakis Mansion and toasts to the portrait of Victor, wishing he could be there to celebrate with them. Kate comes in and says Victor would be so proud of him right now, as she is. Philip proposes a toast but they are interrupted by Vivian Alamain, who says they can’t start a celebration without her!

Wei Shin joins Xander at the Kiriakis Mansion. Xander informs him that he and Philip think that now is the perfect time to move in on DiMera as he shows Wei the article on EJ being shot.

Gabi sits in her office, reading the article on EJ being shot.

Kristen goes to leave the DiMera Mansion right as JJ and Shawn arrive. Kristen says she’s on her way to the office and doesn’t have time to talk. JJ tells her that they aren’t there to talk as they have a warrant to search her bedroom. Kristen tells them to go ahead as she has to get to the office. Shawn informs Kristen that the warrant includes her personal belongings like her bag. JJ asks Kristen for the bag. Kristen asks if this is really necessary. Shawn confirms that it is, so Kristen hands the bag over to JJ and JJ finds her gun inside. JJ asks if Kristen cares to explain the gun.

Philip goes to the hospital and greets Kayla, who asks what brings him by. Philip says he just came from a doctor’s appointment to tune up his prosthetic leg. Kayla is glad it’s nothing serious. Philip feels guilty to be in top shape when someone he knows is fighting for his life. Philip remarks that he has no doubt that EJ is in good hands with Kayla. Philip asks how long she expects EJ to be in a coma.

Belle goes to see EJ in the hospital.

Kristen says it’s not what it looks like. JJ questions what it looks like then while Shawn offers to take her to the police station. Kristen says she has to go to the office but Shawn threatens to place her under arrest. JJ tells Kristen that they are going to need her to answer their questions. Shawn then escorts Kristen out of the mansion while JJ enters the living room to search. JJ flashes back to walking in on Gabi holding EJ at gun point then walks back out of the room.

Melinda joins Gabi in her office. Melinda talks about everyone trying to calm down the shareholders about the stock price plummeting. Gabi mentions hearing the news last night from Leo and shows Melinda the article that Leo wrote for the Spectator. Melinda says who shot EJ is the question on everyone’s mind. Gabi responds that Kristen believes it was her.

Wei comments on hearing that EJ was shot and reads that he’s in a medically induced coma. Wei guesses this is why the stock price is plummeting for DiMera. Xander says he and Philip are paying close attention and Philip is trying to get an update at the hospital.

Kayla reminds Philip that she’s not at liberty to share any information with anyone but EJ’s family. Philip brings up the article and says DiMera Enterprises is obliged to update the shareholders on EJ’s health, including his coma. Kayla wasn’t aware they went to such detail in the article. Philip explains that’s why he doesn’t see the harm in sharing the prognosis with him. Kayla questions why Philip is so concerned about EJ’s condition.

Belle sits at EJ’s side and holds his hand. Belle says she couldn’t believe it when Brady told her what happened. Belle imagines EJ waking up and questioning if she really cares. Belle insists that she wouldn’t wish murder on anyone while her imagination of EJ asks if her being there means she does love him after all.

Philip tells Kayla that EJ is a prominent citizen in Salem so it’s reasonable that he would care and be concerned about his condition. Kayla informs Philip that Stephanie told her that they broke up because she was concerned about his underhanded business tactics. Kayla brings up Titan and DiMera being rivals and talks about how this could affect any deals Philip tries to make at Titan. Philip reminds her that he was at the hospital for his leg. Kayla tells him that she has patients to see and walks away.

Wei complains that every hour that EJ remains in a coma, their stock price goes down. Xander tells Wei that he has a responsibility to do something about this to right the ship. Wei questions how Xander suggests he do that. Xander talks about EJ being a shareholder while him being in a coma has undermined the public’s confidence. Xander reminds Wei that he has the authority to vote EJ’s shares by proxy, so he could call a vote of no confidence in Kristen as CEO right now and install himself in her place. Xander adds that as CEO, Wei could make any deal that he finds interesting including this incredible deal from Titan. Xander states that then, their hostile takeover wouldn’t be so hostile. Wei calls his deal interesting, but says Kristen is the obstacle.

Gabi explains to Melinda how Kristen accused her of shooting EJ, but she pointed out that Kristen had a damn good reason to do it herself.

Shawn brings Kristen to the interrogation room. JJ joins them. Kristen guesses he found no evidence in her room which JJ confirms. JJ adds that the crime scene unit is still searching, so until they get their results, they will have to focus their attention on this. JJ starts by asking Kristen where she got the gun. Kristen asks how that’s his business. Shawn asks if she used it to shoot EJ. Kristen says she won’t dignify that with a response. JJ brings up Kristen working out an immediate agreement for her mother so she could testify against EJ and asks what ever happened with that. Shawn informs him that Ms. Blake disappeared before she could testify. JJ calls that convenient for EJ and guesses he’s just a lucky guy. Kristen reminds him that EJ is in a coma. JJ says the point is, Kristen just reunited with her long dead mother only to have her disappear again, so he thinks she’d be a little upset that things always seem to go EJ’s way. Shawn says he’s pretty sure that EJ had a hand in making Ms. Blake disappear and that Kristen begged him to bring her back. JJ bets EJ refused. JJ and Shawn agree that would piss them off. JJ asks if Kristen felt angry enough to kill her brother.

Xander tells Wei that Kristen doesn’t have enough power to overrule he and EJ. Wei points out that Kristen has the majority, so she would remain in power. Philip then arrives and reveals that Kristen just got brought to the station for questioning on EJ’s shooting.

Shawn asks Kristen if she shot EJ. Kristen laughs off the idea that she would admit to them if she had shot him, but says she did not. Kristen asks if they think detectives get a confession by asking suspects point blank if they committed a crime. Kristen mocks them as being stupid and asks Shawn if he shot EJ. Kristen brings up Shawn’s ex wife sleeping with the victim. Kristen then declares she will not be answering any more questions without a lawyer. JJ questions her wanting to get lawyers involved. Kristen says she does because she knows exactly what they are up to. Kristen calls them terrible at this. JJ tells Kristen to make her call then.

Gabi tells Melinda that of all the people who could’ve shot EJ, Kristen is a much more likely suspect than she is since she hates him as much and lives under the same roof. Gabi says that EJ never would’ve seen it coming. Melinda then gets a call from Kristen, who tells her to drop whatever she’s doing and get to the police station right now. Melinda says she’ll be right there and hangs up. Melinda informs Gabi that Kristen is at the police station, being questioned about EJ’s shooting.

Belle argues with her imagination of EJ that she doesn’t love him, but then admits that she does. Kayla then enters the room and is shocked to see Belle inside.

Melinda goes to the police station and tells Shawn and JJ that she’s there to see Kristen. Melinda asks what Kristen is even doing there since JJ questioned her at the house last night. JJ informs her that new evidence came to light and a search warrant led to them finding a gun. Melinda points out that they have no evidence that’s the gun that shot EJ and no legal right to hold Kristen. Melinda asks to see her client so Shawn directs her to the interrogation room. JJ tells Shawn that they need to match the gun to the bullet ASAP. JJ looks over the file and notes that the bullet has not been logged in to evidence yet as EJ was still in surgery when he left the hospital. Shawn says he’s surely out now so someone must have collected the bullet.

Kayla questions what Belle is doing in EJ’s room and how she got past the guard. Belle says she just flashed her district attorney credentials so Kayla asks if she’s there on official business. Belle admits she just wanted to see how he was doing. Kayla says technically, she should ask her to leave but since EJ doesn’t have any other visitors, she will make an exception. Belle thanks her and asks how EJ is doing. Kayla says he’s still the same. Belle asks if she thinks EJ will make it and come out of the coma. Kayla admits that she doesn’t know but she does think having people there to talk to him helps. Belle says as angry as she’s been with EJ at times, she does pray that he recovers. Kayla hopes they find whoever did this to him.

Xander questions the news that Kristen has been arrested. Philip clarifies that she was not arrested but she was brought to the police station after JJ and Shawn caught her with a gun. Xander excitedly calls this great news and says this must help their cause. Wei agrees that with Kristen in custody, they don’t have a minute to waste.

Gabi calls Javi and tells him to cancel a meeting because Kristen was supposed to sit in on it, but she’s currently being questioned as a person of interest in EJ’s shooting. Javi asks if Kristen did it. Gabi questions how the hell she would know that and hangs up. Gabi then flashes back to being outside the DiMera Mansion on the night that EJ was shot.

Kristen demands that Melinda get her out of here because the word is going to get out that the CEO of DiMera is in custody and the stock is already plummeting thanks to EJ’s coma, so this is a disaster and they can’t take another hit like this. Melinda thinks they have a bigger problem and informs her that Shawn and JJ just showed her the gun, which gives them probable cause to hold her. Melinda questions Kristen as to why she had the gun. Kristen complains that Shawn and JJ are determined to stick it to her. Melinda tells her that she’s going to have to do better than that. Kristen then admits to Melinda that the gun was her mother’s and a family heirloom as she caught her with it, so she confiscated it from her. Kristen says she was going to get rid of it but Melinda points out that she didn’t, so she asks Kristen if she used the gun to shoot her brother.

Shawn informs JJ that forensics and ballistics both don’t have the bullet and wonders if that means the bullet never left the hospital.

Kayla asks Belle how she’s doing as she must be worried sick about her dad. Belle says she is worried but hopeful as she knows Marlena and Steve won’t give up until they find him. Kayla encourages that Steve will find John and bring him home safe and sound. Kayla gets a text from JJ and says apparently she needs to go talk to the police. Belle asks if it’s okay if she stays another minute which Kayla allows as she then exits.

Philip asks if Wei is saying they should move on DiMera now. Wei says that Kristen is as incapacitated as EJ, so if he calls a vote of no confidence now, he can vote in Kristen’s place. Xander adds that they can convince the rest of the board to oust Kristen and install Wei Shin in her place and then he can approve of their takeover. Philip asks how much time they have. Wei says as long as Kristen is in custody, so Xander and Philip agree they need to move now. Philip asks Mr. Shin what to do. He responds to get the rest of the board on the phone now.

JJ and Shawn go to the hospital where Kayla presents them with the bullet, noting that no one ever came to pick it up. JJ says they have to get it to ballistics right away. Shawn hopes this will get them some answers.

Melinda tells Kristen that she decided she doesn’t want to know as it’s her business if she shot EJ. Melinda adds that she can’t argue that she’s innocent if she knows otherwise. Kristen assures that she will never know otherwise.

Gabi thinks back to preparing to enter the DiMera Mansion with a gun on the night that EJ was shot. Philip and Xander then appear in her office. Gabi questions what they are doing in her office. Philip responds that she means their office as Xander announces all of this belongs to them now.

Belle sits at EJ’s side and admits that she loves him, right as her sister Sami arrives! Sami remarks “isn’t that sweet?”

In the town square, Holly tells Sophia that she doesn’t want to talk about her and Tate. Sophia tells her that Tate does and that’s why he went to her house. Holly questions when he went. Sophia says he’s probably there now which causes Holly to worry. Sophia asks if there’s a problem.

Tate goes to Holly’s room and finds Doug III shirtless inside. Tate questions what the hell he’s doing in there.

Shawn joins JJ in the interrogation room and offers to help him in going over EJ’s case. Shawn brings up that JJ helped him last night when he went on about Jada and says to let him know if he can return the favor. JJ responds that there actually is something he wants to run by him about Gabi.

Gabi goes to the DiMera Mansion and looks in to the blocked off living room until Kristen appears behind her and startles her. Kristen accuses Gabi of breaking in to her house. Gabi clarifies that she still has her key from when she was married to Stefan. Kristen says she will need that back, but first questions what Gabi is doing here.

Brady finishes a call with Marlena at home as Belle comes out of her room. Belle asks if there’s any update on John. Brady says not much but Marlena said they did find some encrypted files so Steve is having the ISA work on them. Belle says that’s something but she was hoping to wake up to some news. Brady then reveals there is some other news as he informs her that EJ was shot last night.

EJ remains in a coma and dreams of the night he was shot.

Belle questions EJ being shot. Brady confirms that someone walked in and put a bullet right in his chest, then Chad found him lying on the living room floor. Belle asks if EJ is alive. Brady says he is, but he’s in bad shape. Belle asks how bad. Brady reveals that EJ is in a medically induced coma.

Shawn asks JJ if he and Gabi hit a rough patch. JJ says everything is fine between them, so Shawn asks what’s going on and encourages that he can tell him as they are partners. JJ is not sure how to say it but he’s wondering if it’s possible that Gabi could’ve been involved in EJ’s shooting.

Gabi hands over her key to Kristen. Kristen questions what brought her here. Gabi says it’s DiMera business as she needed Kristen to sign off on expense reports. Gabi adds that she stopped by her office but she wasn’t there. Kristen signs the papers and hands them back to Gabi. Kristen notes that she’s running late and points out they had a very eventful evening. Gabi calls it crazy that someone shot EJ and even crazier that he survived. Kristen says they removed the bullet but it’s still touch and go. Gabi asks if the police have any idea who did it. Kristen says no and asks if Gabi does.

Sophia asks if Holly is reacting this way because of the breakup and not wanting to see Tate. Holly says it’s not that and asks if Sophia is sure that Tate went to her house. Sophia confirms that she was just with him when he said he was going to see how she was doing. Sophia questions why Holly is acting like it’s some big catastrophe. Holly tells her it’s none of her damn business and runs away.

Doug III tells Tate that it’s not what he thinks. Tate argues that he’s nearly naked in Holly’s bedroom, so it looks to him like he’s sleeping with his girlfriend. Doug III then remarks that Holly’s not Tate’s girlfriend anymore.

Belle can’t believe EJ was shot. Brady explains that Kristen called him last night so he wouldn’t worry about Rachel being in the house. Belle guesses whoever did this was only after EJ.

Shawn questions JJ thinking Gabi might have shot EJ. JJ reminds Shawn that he went to Gabi’s house last night but the house was empty and he called her office, who said she had been gone for hours. Shawn asks if that’s why JJ thinks she could’ve done this. JJ reminds Shawn that Gabi almost shot EJ once before.

Gabi questions why the hell she would know anything about EJ’s shooting. Kristen points out that Gabi is dating JJ and he’s one of the detectives on this case. Gabi argues that he’s not giving her the inside scoop as detectives don’t share sensitive details with civilians, so JJ won’t tell her a damn thing. Kristen asks if that’s because she’s a civilian or a suspect.

Tate tells Doug III that he’s the reason that Holly broke up with him. Doug III argues that Tate ratted on him to Julie. Tate argues that he was doing that to protect Holly because Doug III was going to ruin her life. Doug III remarks that Tate did it because he was jealous. Tate calls him a loser and says he’s not jealous at all. Doug III argues that Tate hated that he and Holly were getting closer so he told Julie that he took the necklace. Tate calls him a jerk and corrects that he stole the necklace. Doug III argues that he added to Julie’s pain by telling her while Tate says he only told her that the guy she took in was a two-faced crook. Tate asks if he stole something else. Doug III admits he is partly to blame for Holly cutting him loose. Doug III tells Tate that when he and Holly woke up this morning, she told him that telling on him was just the last straw and that their relationship was hanging by a thread because it had been nothing but drama from the start. Tate calls that not even close to true. Doug III argues that Tate knocked up her best friend. Tate complains that he probably thinks that gave him the opening with Holly. Doug III argues that Holly wanted to be with Tate but he was always running off to doctor’s appointments with Sophia and when Holly needed someone, he was there which made Tate insane. Doug III tells Tate to just admit that he didn’t know how to get rid of him, so he went crying to Julie. Doug III asks what else he should expect from an insecure baby. Tate then punches Doug III in the face, knocking him down right as Holly arrives.

Sophia meets her mom in the town square. Amy asks about Tate joining them. Sophia assures that he will be and that he just had to take care of something important. Amy questions what could be more important than the future of her baby.

Holly questions what the hell is going on as she helps Doug III up. Tate says that’s what he wants to know since he walked in to find Doug III in his underwear. Tate questions if Holly is sleeping with him. Holly says no and admits that Doug III spent the night but he slept on the floor and it was completely innocent. Doug III says he tried to tell him that. Tate tells him to shut up while Holly holds him back. Holly argues that Doug III needed a place to stay and had nowhere else to go since Julie kicked him out because of Tate. Holly asks what Tate is even doing there. Tate says he came to see if she knew about EJ. Holly says she got the news alert. Tate then decides there’s nothing else to say then and storms out.

Belle tells Brady that she was there last night when she wore the wire to try and get EJ to admit what he did to Jada and Rafe. Belle says after EJ caught her, she got so upset and stormed out while now EJ is in a hospital bed, clinging to life. Brady asks how Belle is feeling. Belle admits she doesn’t know how to feel.

Shawn remembers JJ telling him about Gabi pulling a gun on EJ. JJ asks if he agrees that it’s not out of the question that she might do it again. Shawn questions if Gabi would risk going back to prison and losing Arianna. JJ wishes he could say no, but says before they found Rafe, Gabi was locked in and if he didn’t walk in, he thinks she would’ve blown EJ away right there. JJ worries that this time, no one was there to stop her.

Gabi questions why the hell Kristen would say she’s a suspect. Kristen points out that she certainly had a motive. Gabi says so does half the town. Kristen brings up Gabi hating EJ since he sent her to prison for Li’s murder and even moreso for what he did to Rafe and knowing he wouldn’t get prosecuted for it. Kristen asks if Gabi was angry enough to take out a gun last night and shoot him. Gabi responds that she could ask Kristen the same question.

Sophia tells Amy to chill out as Tate will be there any minute. Amy hopes so because she needs to know the baby is their first priority. Sophia promises that it is. Tate arrives and apologizes for being late. Sophia pulls Tate aside and asks if he’s okay since he seems kind of upset. Tate says he’s fine. Sophia asks if he’s sure since she ran in to Holly earlier and when she told her that Tate was at her house, she got really weird about it like she didn’t want him there. Tate responds that maybe it was because she had Doug III holed up in her room.

Doug III puts his shirt back on and jokes that at least Tate hit him before he got dressed. Holly recalls the last time he got blood all over his shirt. Doug III remembers Holly being so nice to him that day when she barely knew him and says he really has to stop doing this to her. Holly says he is her friend and then remembers she forgot to get him breakfast.

Belle tells Brady that she’s been trying so hard to get EJ out of her life but she just can’t do it. Brady understands she tried. Belle says wearing the wire didn’t work. Brady assures that he won’t judge her. Belle brings up EJ saying she only wore the wire because she couldn’t resist him and she only wanted to put him behind bars so there would be no more temptation. Belle questions what it means that she failed. Brady says EJ just knew what she was up to. Belle complains that EJ is way too smart to believe that she would just show up at his door and want to rekindle things. Belle calls it a very bad plan and admits that she suspected EJ would bust her, so maybe on some level, she wanted him to. Belle goes over the lies she told EJ about wanting to get back together, but maybe subconsciously EJ is right and she does want him and she doesn’t want him to go to prison because then he’d be gone. Belle adds that now she hears he was shot and she’s upset about a guy everyone knows is a monster. Belle asks what is wrong with her. Brady calls it the same dynamic that he had with Kristen as he knew she was wrong for him and difficult but he didn’t stop because the pull was too strong and that’s why he works very hard every day to make sure he doesn’t get sucked back in. Belle asks what if she can’t shake EJ no matter how hard she works. Belle brings up how EJ said he’d always be in her head, heart, and soul. Brady calls EJ a pompous ass who is going to gloat. Belle knows Brady hates EJ like eveyone else and says she wants to hate him too but she can’t.

Shawn asks JJ why he doesn’t just ask Gabi if he really thinks she might have shot EJ. JJ says he almost did last night right after it happened but accusing his girlfriend of attempted murder kind of seems like a relationship killer. Shawn feels secretly wondering if his girlfriend is an attempted murderer is not really good either. JJ knows he has to look in to it but he’s not sure how. Shawn tells him that he doesn’t think it was Gabi and points out that she’s not the only one who could have done it as there are a lot of other people it could be. JJ tells Shawn that Kristen is at the top of his list.

Kristen asks Gabi why she would want to shoot her own brother. Gabi argues that Kristen has a stronger motive than she does. Kristen says EJ didn’t send her away for a crime she didn’t commit. Gabi brings up that EJ sent her mother away so she couldn’t testify against him. Kristen questions how she knows about that. Gabi tells Kristen that she heard her telling Melinda and she thinks the whole office heard it. Gabi suggests Kristen remember that she was just upset with EJ as she was. Kristen questions if Gabi thinks she would kill the one person who could tell her where her mother was. Kristen claims that she doesn’t own a gun. Gabi says they both know she could get one, so the only question is did she use it?

Sophia asks Tate why Doug III was in Holly’s room. Amy calls them over so Tate tells Sophia not to worry about it. Amy then asks why they think she should reconsider giving Johnny and Chanel their baby. Sophia first thanks Amy for agreeing to meet with them. Amy says to get on with it. Sophia brings up the news about EJ. Amy says she’s been praying for him, remarking that it’s the sinners who need their prayers the most. Sophia says it sounds like EJ is in pretty bad shape and not that it’s a good thing but they know Amy’s main objection to the adoption was EJ being in the baby’s life, but now that EJ is in a coma, she won’t have to worry about that anymore. Amy believes EJ will recover. Sophia says if he recovers, it could be years from now and they don’t know what condition he will be in. Sophia adds that Johnny and Chanel did move out of the mansion. Amy admits to being fond of Paulina. Tate adds that Paulina is the mayor so her place has tons of security. Sophia knows Amy was worried that EJ would have an influence on the baby’s life, but now that he’s out of commission, there’s no longer a chance of that happening anymore. Sophia states that EJ just has nothing to do with this anymore. Sophia suggests the timing of this incident is a sign that she should change her mind. Amy calls it worth considering, but the only two people who can guarantee that EJ will be out of the picture are Johnny and Chanel, so she will need to speak to them before making any decisions. Amy tells Sophia to get to school on time and walks away, leaving Sophia and Tate pleased with how things went.

Holly tells Doug III about running in to Sophia and then hurrying to get home when she found out Tate was coming. Doug III brings up that he ignored the knock on the door like she said to, but Tate just opened it and walked in. Holly apologizes for not getting there sooner to stop Tate from slugging him. Doug III says she picked him up off the floor which counts for something and he understands why Tate would be pissed to find him in her room. Holly feels that still gave him no right to hit him. Holly says she will go downstairs to get them breakfast and exits.

Brady tells Belle that he doesn’t want her to beat herself up over EJ. Belle asks how she couldn’t when she just admitted to caring about a guy who has hurt so many people she loves. Brady calls EJ a despicable person, but just because she cares about him doesn’t make her despicable. Brady argues that it means she’s good hearted for having compassion for another human. Belle asks why she feels flooded with shame then. Brady states that what she had with EJ was very intense and she can’t just shut that off, like he can’t shut off his addiction. Brady says it takes time and just because she has thoughts or feelings that she doesn’t want to have, doesn’t mean she’s a bad person. Brady encourages that Belle will get through this and says he loves her. Belle thanks him as they hug. Brady says now he has to get to Rachel’s school to make sure she’s okay. Brady asks if Belle will be okay alone. Belle says she will be fine, so Brady exits.

Kristen warns Gabi that accusing her boss of attempted murder is not a wise career move. Gabi responds that accusing her employees doesn’t do well for workplace morale. Gabi thinks after the damage the article did to DiMera, she could use all the loyalty she could get. Kristen guesses that’s true but she’s not in a trusting mood. Gabi says that makes two of them and exits the mansion. Kristen looks back in to the living room with the blood spot on the floor.

JJ tells Shawn about how he questioned Kristen last night and she couldn’t get away from him fast enough. Shawn calls her story lame while JJ adds that Kristen said Rachel slept through the entire thing. Shawn thinks Kristen may know more than she’s saying and suggests giving her another run but JJ feels that’d be a waste of time as he can’t imagine she would say any more than she did. Shawn declares that they will just have to go about this another way then.

Sophia and Tate sit together as Sophia says things with Amy went better than she expected. Tate agrees that it went really well. Sophia can tell he’s still upset about what happened at Holly’s, so she asks him to finish telling her about it. Tate informs her that Doug III slept on the floor in Holly’s room last night because Holly said he had nowhere else to go and when he walked in, Doug III was in his boxers and Holly said nothing happened. Tate adds that Holly wasn’t there at first and Doug III said some stuff to piss him off, so he hit him. Tate declares it definitely is the end of the road for he and Holly.

Holly returns to her room with cereal in mugs for her and Doug III. Doug III calls it a perfect last meal since now that Tate knows he’s here, he probably shouldn’t get too comfortable since he doesn’t see why Tate wouldn’t tell Maggie that he’s there. Holly wants to think he wouldn’t, but she didn’t think he would tell Julie about the necklace. Holly remarks that she thought she knew Tate really well but maybe she doesn’t know him at all.

Belle goes to see EJ in the hospital.

Kristen goes to leave the DiMera Mansion right as JJ and Shawn arrive. Kristen says she’s on her way to the office and doesn’t have time to talk. JJ tells her that they aren’t there to talk as they have a warrant to search her bedroom. Kristen tells them to go ahead as she has to get to the office. Shawn informs Kristen that the warrant includes her personal belongings like her bag. JJ asks Kristen for the bag. Kristen asks if this is really necessary. Shawn confirms that it is, so Kristen hands the bag over to JJ and JJ finds her gun inside.

Tate sits at home and texts Holly, saying he’s really sorry and asks if they can talk.

Holly wakes up to see Tate’s text.

Philip joins Kate at the Brady Pub and tells her that his morning is going superb since Alex agreed to go along with he and Stephanie’s lie, so Xander still doesn’t know about the forged letter. Philip notes Kate being distracted and asks what could be more important than them avoiding going to prison for fraud. Kate brings up EJ. Philip assures that EJ won’t hurt him and he’s not afraid of him. Kate tells him that EJ won’t be coming after him or anyone as she shows him the article on EJ’s shooting.

Stephanie has a nightmare about finding Alex in bed with Sarah, then wakes up in a panic. Alex encourages her that it was just a bad dream and she’s fine, but it obviously upset her a lot so he asks if she remembers what it was about.

Xander joins Sarah in the living room of the Kiriakis Mansion after his workout. Xander comments on wishing he had another hour to work off all the stress from everything that happened last night with Stephanie, Philip, and Alex. Xander remarks that he can’t believe Stephanie and Philip were betraying Alex like that behind his back. Sarah calls it a shock to all of them, but thinks Alex and Stephanie will be able to move past it. Xander has a hard time believing anyone can move past something like that. Xander hopes it doesn’t negatively affect their working relationship as he doesn’t want anything to mess up their plans to seize DiMera when they are so close. Sarah then says there’s something she needs to tell him. Sarah thinks back to confronting Philip and Kate over the forged letter. Xander asks what she needs to tell him. Sarah responds that she’s been lying to him.

Doug III wakes up on the floor of Holly’s bedroom.

Stephanie tells Alex that her nightmare was nothing. Alex says it didn’t seem like nothing to her and guesses it was a sex dream. Stephanie responds that she’s fine now and wants to drop it. Alex questions if her dream was about having sex with Philip. Stephanie assures it wasn’t that, but about Alex and Sarah in bed.

Xander questions what Sarah would have to lie to him about. Sarah says it’s about the secret that Philip and Stephanie have been keeping. Xander points out that it’s not a secret anymore and all out in the open, so he asks what else she could know about it. Sarah thinks back to convincing Stephanie to keep the secret. Xander says she’s starting to scare him and asks what it is. Sarah then tells him that she knew that Philip was sleeping with Stephanie.

Philip reads the article and questions having no idea who shot EJ. Kate believes half of Salem would like to shake the hand of whoever it was and calls it a shame that they didn’t kill him. Philip then wonders if Kate shot EJ.

Doug III comments to Holly that he slept a lot better than on the park bench and says he’s really grateful that she let him stay, but he’s worried that she will get in trouble. Holly assures that she won’t. Doug III brings up Maggie and Julie being really close and worries about Maggie finding out. Holly assures that she can handle it. Doug III asks what about Tate having an issue with him sleeping in her room. Holly responds that even if he does have an issue, it wouldn’t be her problem anymore. Holly then informs Doug III that she broke up with Tate.

Sophia shows up at Tate’s door and informs him that EJ was shot last night in his own home. Tate is shocked and worries about Rachel living there. Sophia tells him that the news said everyone else was okay but EJ had to get rushed to the hospital and put in a medically induced coma, so he’s in critical condition. Tate says he’s hardly EJ’s biggest fan but he’s still Johnny’s father and Rachel’s uncle. Sophia adds that he was also Holly’s stepdad before. Tate wonders if Holly knows and how she’s taking it since she was furious with EJ over what he did to Eric and Nicole, but it still can’t be easy for her. Sophia encourages that maybe now things will go easier for them since EJ getting shot could be the answer to their prayers.

Kate questions Philip thinking she tried to kill a man. Philip says he wasn’t accusing her and he knows she was freaking out over EJ’s threats, so he wondered if maybe she took action. Kate assures that she did not shoot EJ. Philip remarks that it wouldn’t be the first time that Kate used a gun to take care of an enemy..

Xander tells Sarah that she’s not making any sense since he is the one who told her about Philip and Stephanie. Sarah reveals that she was faking it and that she knew before he found out. Xander questions how. Sarah informs him that Stephanie told her.

Alex questions Stephanie having a dream that he was having sex with Sarah. Stephanie guesses it’s all thanks to the ridiculous lie about her sleeping with Philip behind his back. Stephanie admits she’s been obsessing about it lately. Alex isn’t too thrilled about it either. Alex gets why Sarah wouldn’t want Xander to know the real secret but feels the whole cover story has him looking like a simp. Stephanie admits it doesn’t paint her in the most flattering way either so Alex questions why they are going along with it. Alex gets that it would turn Titan upside down if Xander found out the truth that Philip forged the letter and basically stole half of his birth right, but feels Xander has the right to know he’s been duped.

Kate tells Philip that if he’s talking about Vivian, he knows that was an accident. Philip argues that it’s not how Vivian sees it. Kate asks if he’s taking the word of a psychopath over his own mother. Kate reminds him that Vivian already paid her back for accidentally shooting her by shooting her in cold blood and burying her alive. Philip points out that it’s also because of Vivian that he controls half of his father’s company which they agree is good. Philip points out that Kate also tried to kill Sami, Chloe, and Victor a couple of times and she’s been known to carry a gun for protection. Philip declares that the one thing the people of Salem know about Kate is that she will go to great lengths to protect the people she cares about, especially her family, so it’s not so far-fetched for him to wonder if maybe she gunned EJ down to stop him from hurting the people she loves.

Tate asks if he just heard that Sophia thinks EJ being gunned down in his own home is a good thing. Sophia insists that she hates gun violence and her heart goes out to his family, but asks if Tate hasn’t considered what this could mean for the adoption since her mom’s biggest concern was not wanting EJ involved. Tate points out that EJ is in a coma, but he’s not dead. Sophia knows it’s horrible that he was shot, but she’s looking for a silver lining. Sophia says if it takes EJ awhile to recover, her mom shouldn’t have any more problems with Johnny and Chanel adopting their baby. Sophia says she’s sorry as she knows this is messed up but asks if Tate isn’t a tiny bit relieved, feeling the adoption has caused them enough trouble including trouble for he and Holly. Tate then informs Sophia that Holly isn’t really a factor anymore because she just broke up with him.

Holly finishes a shower and tells Doug III that it’s all his. Doug III asks if she really broke things off with Tate and what happened. Holly explains that they just got in to a stupid fight about Tate snitching on Doug III for stealing Julie’s necklace. Holly says she really let him have it for that and it ended badly. Doug III asks why she didn’t tell him when she got home last night. Holly says she didn’t want to rehash it. Doug III blames himself as the reason they broke up.

Stephanie questions Alex wanting to tell Xander the truth about the forgery. Xander repeats that he knows there’s a downside to turning Titan upside down and pitting the brothers against each other, but he also knows what it’s like to be duped by somebody very close to you. Alex adds that he’s not crazy about the idea of Xander thinking he’s some chump who can’t keep his woman satisfied. Stephanie assures that he does as they kiss.

Xander questions Sarah about Stephanie telling her that she and Philip were sneaking around behind Alex’s back. Sarah explains that Stephanie needed to get it off her chest and needed a confidant, so she opened up to her and said she felt horrible about it. Xander doesn’t understand why Sarah didn’t tell him about it at the time. Sarah says she didn’t want to betray Stephanie since she said she wanted to come clean about it and was looking for the right time, so it wasn’t her secret to tell and that’s why she wanted him to drop his suspicions because she knew he was onto them and she just wanted to protect her friend. Sarah tells Xander that she’s so sorry for lying to him but she thought it was better if no one knew. Sarah asks if Xander can forgive her. Xander asks if she’s serious and how he could be mad at her for protecting her friend. Xander points out that it hardly compares to some of the secrets he’s kept from her over the years. Sarah calls that a fair point. Xander says at the end of the day, Alex and Philip are family, but any secret about them won’t directly impact he and Sarah. Xander assures that she’s completely forgiven and hugs Sarah.

Alex tells Stephanie that he’s absolutely crazy about her. Alex then asks if her if it’s better being with him than Philip. Stephanie doesn’t want to compare romantic partners and questions him bringing up Philip. Stephanie then tells Alex that he is better than Philip. Alex says he’s always welcome to reassurance. Stephanie then asks if she’s better than all the women he’s been with. Alex admits he’s been involved with a fair amount of women, but not one of them comes remotely close to her as they kiss.

Kate tells Philip that she’s only going to say this once, she did not shoot EJ. Kate says now the interrogation is over and she can eat her food. Philip is happy to know she won’t be going to prison any time soon. Philip decides he should get going since he and Xander have a lot to talk about now that another DiMera has been taken off the board. Kate says she’ll see him later as Philip then exits the Pub. Kate looks back at the article and remarks that EJ finally got what was coming to him.

Sophia guesses things didn’t go well when Holly confronted Tate about ratting Doug III out to Julie. Tate asks how she knew about that. Sophia explains that she ran in to Doug III in the town square and he mentioned that Holly seemed pretty pissed as she was going to confront him. Tate says pissed was an understatement and that Doug III loved it. Sophia asks what happened between Tate and Holly. Tate says that Holly claimed he did it because he was jealous which is not entirely untrue. Sophia encourages that Holly will come around in time, pointing out that they’ve had issues before. Tate thinks they have finally had one issue too many, thanks to Doug Williams III.

Holly questions Doug III as to why it would be his fault. He argues that if not for him, she and Tate would still be together. Holly disagrees and says they broke up for a bunch of reasons. Holly admits maybe some of the reasons involved Doug III but that still doesn’t make it his fault. Holly says it’s been one crisis after another since they first got together and she thinks it all came to an end when he got Sophia pregnant. Holly feels like an idiot for thinking they could get past that and says she’s starting to realize their relationship was doomed. Holly says Tate telling Julie may have been the last straw but nothing Doug III did caused that to happen as that was all Tate. Doug III says he’s still really sorry she had to go through that. Holly questions if he really is. Doug III says she’s his friend and he cares about her. Holly brings up that he cares about her as more than just a friend and asks if it’s really a crazy thought to think he might be a little happy that she and Tate broke up. Holly then gets an alert on her phone that EJ was shot last night and is in critical condition at the hospital. Doug III says he was her stepdad so he understands if she needs to get to the hospital. Holly says she’s just shocked but doesn’t think anyone is expecting her to visit, so she’ll just check in with Johnny later. Holly offers to go get him breakfast before she goes to school. Doug III says he’ll figure something out but Holly says that might get him caught so it’s safer if he stays in here. Holly tells him to go ahead and shower and ignore if anyone knocks on the door. Doug III thanks Holly as she exits.

Sophia finishes a call with her mom, saying they will meet her in the town square later. She then informs Tate that Amy is willing to reopen the adoption discussion so she guesses the news about EJ really did have an impact. Tate feels like he should go check on Holly. Sophia questions that and argues that if she wanted to talk to him, she would’ve just texted him back. Sophia asks if he thinks Holly will forgive him or just say the break up was a big mistake. Tate tells Sophia he will meet her in the town square and thanks her for talking to her mom because he wants the adoption to go through as much as anyone. Tate then exits.

Philip goes to the Kiriakis Mansion where Xander says they were just talking about him and the sordid situation with Alex and Stephanie. Xander hopes he’s right in assuming this particular chapter of his romantic life is at an end. Philip confirms that he and Stephanie are over for good this time. Xander guesses that means they can get back to work. Sarah takes that as her cue to leave and says she’s needed at the hospital anyway, so she exits. Xander asks Philip what’s first on the agenda. Philip informs him that the agenda has been set for them as he reveals EJ has been shot which means things just went from bad to worse for the DiMeras.

Alex asks Stephanie what her schedule is for the day. Stephanie says she has a strategy session for the hospital fundraiser in the morning, a meeting with Paulina at City Hall in the afternoon, and drinks with a potential new client in the evening. She then asks what his schedule is. Alex says he’s meeting with Xander and Philip at the Kiriakis Mansion. Stephanie asks if he’s decided what he’s going to do about the secret. Alex admits that he’s still not sure but he’s leaning towards telling Xander the truth and letting the chips fall where they may. Stephanie points out that those chips may involve Sarah and Xander’s marriage. Stephanie says she’s not trying to guilt trip him and just wanted to remind him of what’s at stake. Stephanie says Sarah is her friend and she’d love to help her, but it’s his family and not hers so she will stand by whatever decision Alex chooses to make.

Holly walks through the town square, leaving a message for Nicole that it’s about EJ. Holly sees Sophia and tries to walk away but Sophia calls out to her and says she heard about Holly and Tate’s breakup. Sophia says that Tate feels awful. Holly doesn’t want to talk about it. Sophia tells her that Tate does and that’s why he went to her house. Holly questions when he went. Sophia says he’s probably there now which causes Holly to worry.

Doug III gets out of the shower as Tate knocks on the door to Holly’s room. Tate asks if they can talk and then opens the door to find Doug III shirtless inside.

Stephanie goes to the hospital and greets Sarah. Sarah thanks Stephanie for convincing Alex to go along with her story as she knows it’s a lot to ask. Stephanie warns her not to thank her yet because Alex is still considering telling Xander the truth.

Xander remarks that EJ finally got what was coming to him. Alex arrives and greets them. Xander tells them to ease up and mentions that Philip just assured him that his relationship with Stephanie is in the past. Alex says it’s alright and repeats that he and Philip came to an understanding. Philip confirms that Alex was very mature about the whole thing. Xander is glad that’s settled and then shows Alex the article on EJ’s shooting which he says could end up being their silver bullet. Xander declares that Kristen is one crisis away from a straitjacket while EJ is fighting for his life in a coma. Alex suggests they should hold off on dancing on his grave. Xander feels now is the time to get one step closer to taking over DiMera, thanks to whoever pulled the trigger.

Kate remains at the Pub and looks at her gun in her purse.

JJ joins the police team at the DiMera Mansion. JJ brings how a lot of people live there to question including the servants. JJ asks if Jada is there yet but the cop says they haven’t been able to reach her.

Jada is drinking at the bar and calls out to the bartender that she’s ready for round three or four.

Rafe goes home with a six pack of beer and thinks back to talking to Gabi about EJ being to blame for everything. Javi comes out of his bedroom and comments to Rafe that he’s glad someone is finally home since Leo cut their date short and he was getting bored. Rafe responds that he just went out for some beer. Javi questions why he did that when they had plenty in the fridge. Rafe guesses he didn’t see that. Javi remarks that Rafe looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders and asks him what’s wrong.

Gabi runs in to Leo in the town square. Leo questions her being in a rush.

JJ comments that they will see what the evidence tells them about what happened. Kristen rushes in to question if it’s true. JJ complains about the crime scene tape not being up. Kristen asks if EJ was shot. JJ confirms that Chad found EJ on the floor with a single bullet to the chest and blood everywhere. Kristen then asks if EJ is dead.

At the hospital, Kayla informs Chad that EJ made it through surgery and is stable, but the bullet caused a lot of damage internally so EJ is not out of the woods and the next 24 hours will be critical in his survival.

Rafe tells Javi that nothing is wrong but Javi senses something is off big time. Rafe asks if they really have to do this. Javi says there’s no one else for him to bother. Rafe then admits he’s not in a good place as he found out something terrible last night, that involves EJ DiMera. Javi tells him to go on. Rafe informs Javi that when EJ was holding him captive, Jada slept with another man. Javi can’t believe it and argues that he knows that’s not true because Jada never had sex with Arnold. Rafe then clarifies that he’s not talking about Arnold.

Shawn finds Jada at the bar. Jada tells him that she’s so glad he’s there because she hates drinking alone and she could use the company. Shawn responds that he’s afraid he can’t join her. Jada offers to order him a club soda but Shawn declines. Jada asks how else they are going to toast to the big news. Shawn questions what big news.

Gabi tells Leo that she just doesn’t like being out on her own because you never know who you will run in to. Leo remarks to Gabi that there is a killer amongst them. Gabi questions what he’s talking about. Leo reveals that somebody tried to murder EJ DiMera.

JJ informs Kristen that Chad said EJ was still alive when he got to the hospital and he was still in surgery when he left. Kristen says she should get dressed and get over there but JJ says not so fast.

Jada informs Shawn that Rafe kicked her out of the house. Shawn says he’s so sorry as he wondered how Rafe would react to the news. Shawn knew Rafe would be upset but hoped he’d be a little more understanding. Jada responds that he wasn’t understanding at all but was angry and hurt. Jada remarks that Rafe was being held captive while she was cheating on him with Shawn.

Javi is shocked when Rafe tells him that Jada slept with Shawn. Javi guesses it was after Arnold put Jada through the ringer and feels it makes sense why she seeked comfort in another man. Javi insists that Jada is a good woman, who had her heart broken so he needs to forgive her. Rafe responds that he doesn’t know if he can.

Kristen argues to JJ that she needs to get to the hospital because her brother might be dying. JJ says not before he asks her some questions like where she was tonight. Kristen responds that she was at Brady’s to see how he was holding up with his father missing. JJ questions how long she was there. Kristen says she doesn’t know but that he can call Brady if he doesn’t believe her. JJ asks if she saw EJ when she came home. Kristen thinks back to confronting EJ about her mother and pulling out her gun afterwards. Kristen then tells JJ that they spoke briefly and that EJ said he wanted to be left alone, so she left him alone.

Gabi questions Leo saying someone tried to murder EJ. Leo explains that EJ is still alive, so there is a would-be killer unless he doesn’t make it. Gabi asks how it happened. Leo responds that EJ was shot point blank in the chest in his own home, so he rushed over to the DiMera Mansion to try to get the scoop. Leo notes that the police were tight lipped but there’s a chance EJ might not make it. Gabi calls that good and says the bastard deserves a one way ticket to Hell.

Chad asks Kayla what they are dealing with. Kayla explains that the bullet punctured one of EJ’s lungs and he lost a lot of blood, but he’s very lucky because the bullet just missed his heart. Chad asks if he can see him. Kayla says just for a little bit. Cat asks Chad if she can do anything. Chad tells her to just say a prayer for his brother as he heads to EJ’s room.

Javi questions Rafe saying he doesn’t think he can forgive Jada. Javi thinks he’s being a little unfair when Jada was a victim like Rafe and loves him so much. Rafe questions Jada not being able to tell the difference between he and Arnold, which makes him think Jada never knew who he was at all.

Shawn argues that Jada didn’t know that EJ was holding Rafe captive and they all thought Arnold was Rafe. Jada brings up Rafe going on about how she should’ve known the difference and agrees that she should have figured it out. Shawn feels she’s being way too hard on herself. Jada appreciates him being kind and says she’s glad she ran in to him. Shawn admits it wasn’t a coincidence as he came to track her down. Jada questions what happened. Shawn informs her that there’s been a high profile shooting.

JJ questions what Kristen did after speaking with EJ. Kristen responds that she went upstairs to check on Rachel and took a shower until a cop told her what happened. JJ questions her not hearing the gunshot and why she was taking a shower. Kristen responds that she always showers before bed. JJ asks if she’s sure there was no other reason, like washing off blood or gunshot residue.

Leo didn’t realize how much Gabi hated EJ. Gabi complains that EJ sent her to prison for a crime she didn’t commit and then ruined her marriage with Stefan as well as kidnapping Rafe. Gabi states that EJ got what was coming to him which Leo calls debatable. Leo asks Gabi who she thinks did it. Gabi responds that she has no idea, but whoever it was is a hero in her book because EJ needed to pay. Leo asks if he can quote her on that.

Kayla tells Cat that it’s getting late, so she is sure Chad would understand if she went home. Cat says she wants to stay since Chad doesn’t really have anyone. Kayla brings up this bringing back memories for Chad. Cat notes that Chad was talking about losing Abigail. Kayla says she meant with EJ since he was shot before by one of Clyde’s men. Cat questions how many lives Clyde has destroyed. Kayla explains that at the time, everyone thought EJ had died from his injuries but later found out that Stefano revived him and recuperated him in secret for years. Cat knows Chad and EJ have not always had the best relationship, but she knows Chad loves EJ and is so afraid to lose him again.

Chad sits at EJ’s side in his hospital room and tells him that he’s not alone and he will always be there for him. Chad is sure EJ is still pissed off at him printing the article about him, but he’s his brother and he loves him. Chad mentions leaving a voicemail for EJ’s mother and speaking to Sydney and Johnny. Chad comments that Johnny will be there soon as he knows he will want to see him right away. EJ then starts having a seizure so Chad runs out to call for help. Kayla comes in and tells Chad to wait outside as she needs to work.

Kristen questions if JJ is accusing her of shooting her own brother. JJ says he’s just asking questions. Kristen argues that they don’t always get along, but she would never try to kill EJ or anyone else. JJ argues that they both know that’s not true, bringing up what Kristen did to Victor Kiriakis and to his ex-girlfriend Haley. Kristen tells him that he knows Haley’s death was a terrible accident. Kristen adds that the number of people with a reason to shoot EJ could fill the town square. JJ thinks back to Gabi.

Leo tells Gabi that he’s quoting her for his story on the shooting but Gabi complains that she was off the record and if he includes that, people will think she shot EJ. Leo questions if she has an alibi. Gabi reminds Leo that she let him move in to her house when she could have put her foot down, but she gave in so he and Javi could be together. Gabi asks him to forget her diatribe about EJ. Leo agrees to delete it from his memory. Leo decides he should get home and start typing his story. Leo offers Gabi a ride home, but she tells him to go ahead as she has something to do first.

Javi asks Rafe if Jada was supposed to think there was somebody out there who looked exactly like Rafe, arguing that EJ and Arnold had them all fooled. Rafe complains that Jada should’ve known him better as he was going to spend the rest of his life with her. Javi argues that he still can and asks if Jada said she had feelings for Shawn. Rafe admits that Jada said she still loves him. Javi knows Rafe is angry, hurt, and frustrated by urges him not to take it out on Jada. Javi says he should direct his anger at EJ. Rafe responds that he already made plans to make sure EJ pays…

Jada questions Shawn about EJ being shot and why no one called her. Shawn says they tried but she didn’t pick up. Shawn understands she wanted to disconnect and says they don’t have a lot as JJ is taking the lead on this while he volunteered to come find her. Jada decides she’s ready and will be fine after a glasso f water. Shawn then notices Jada’s holster is empty and questions where her gun is. Jada responds that she doesn’t know. Shawn asks if she lost it at the bar. Jada says she locked in her desk when she got off duty, admitting she wasn’t thinking straight after her run in with Rafe. Jada asks Shawn to take her to the DiMera Mansion but Shawn doesn’t think that’s a good idea because she’s obviously tipsy and doesn’t want to show up to work like that. Shawn tells Jada to let JJ handle this for the night while she goes home to sleep this off. Jada reminds him that she doesn’t have a home, so Shawn decides he will take her back to his place.

Javi questions how exactly Rafe plans on making EJ pay. Rafe tells him to forget it as it’s been a long day and he doesn’t want to talk about EJ DiMera anymore. Leo then comes home and announces the news that EJ has been shot and was hanging by a thread as he was taken to the hospital. Rafe asks if they have any idea who did it. Leo says not yet and imagines it will be hard to narrow down a suspect with the amount of people who hate EJ. Javi asks where it happened. Leo reveals that it was right in his own living room. Rafe thinks back to planting the bugging device in the room. Rafe then says he remembered he has to take care of something, so he will see them later and quickly exits. Leo comments on Rafe’s hurry and questions what someone would have to take care of at this time of evening.

Kristen asks JJ if he has any more questions. JJ questions Rachel sleeping through the whole thing which Kristen confirms. Kristen tells JJ that she did not shoot EJ, but he needs to find out who did before they get away with murder. Kristen prays it was only attempted murder and says if they are done here, she will go check on Rachel and then call Chad to check on EJ. JJ tells Kristen not to go in the living room since it’s a crime scene and not to leave town. Kristen questions why she would leave town when all she wants is for him to find who did this to her brother to make sure they spend the rest of their lives behind bars. Kristen looks in to the living room before heading back upstairs.

Gabi remains in the town square and calls the hospital, hoping for an update on EJ. Gabi notes that she’s not currently family but she used to be, but they hang up on her.

Chad sits with Cat and tells her about EJ having a seizure. Chad wonders if he shouldn’t have gone in his room as maybe his presence upset EJ, so he blames himself. Cat asks what he’s talking about. Chad brings up the article he printed, so he’s sure it brought up angry emotions for people that EJ has wronged and then someone shot him, so he feels like he instigated it. Cat argues that EJ’s actions are responsible for what happened, not the article. Cat feels Chad is suffering enough about this without blaming himself. Chad agrees to stop blaming himself. Chad admits he’s scared as he doesn’t want to lose his brother. Cat then hugs him.

Jada thanks Shawn for the offer but worries that Rafe wouldn’t be too thrilled. Shawn points out that Rafe kicked her out and it’s late, so he doesn’t think Rafe has much say in where she sleeps tonight. Jada agrees and suspects that Rafe doesn’t give a damn what she does, so they exit the bar together.

Kristen comes back downstairs and looks in to the living room at the blood stain on the floor. Kristen then heads back upstairs while Rafe sneaks in to the living room. Rafe retrieves the bugging device he planted on the statue in the room and quickly escapes.

Leo asks Javi where he thinks Rafe went. Javi says he has no idea but talks about Rafe acting strange all night, making excuses about why he wasn’t home and his body language. Javi brings up Rafe mentioning making EJ pay. Leo asks if he thinks Rafe shot EJ. Javi notes that Rafe does hate EJ. Leo points out that Gabi does too and she made no secret about it when he ran in to her earlier.

Gabi wishes EJ would hurry up and die already. JJ approaches and tells Gabi that he was just abou to call her, asking if she heard about EJ. Gabi confirms that Leo told her and asks if he knows if EJ made it through surgery. JJ says he hasn’t had a chance to check in as he was busy at the scene. Gabi asks if he has any idea who shot EJ. JJ recalls the night he found Gabi holding her gun on EJ. JJ then tells Gabi that it’s too early to know anything for sure.

Chad gets a text from Kristen and says he doesn’t know what to tell her. Cat suggests waiting until they know more. Kayla comes back and says they got the seizure under control but those can impede his recovery. Kayla then announces that to prevent that, they have put EJ in a medically induced coma.

EJ is having a drink in the living room of the DiMera Mansion and looks up to the portrait of Stefano. EJ declares that it’s official that everyone in town hates him, even Belle who tried to trap him. EJ adds that he could tell Belle was conflicted, unlike the rest of them, as he can almost feel the rest of the mob storming the castle for his head. EJ remarks that it wouldn’t surprise him if Rafe and Gabi were the ones leading the charge.

JJ goes to the Hernandez house and knocks on the door, asking if Gabi or Rafe are home but there is no answer and the house is empty.

EJ brings up that there are a lot of other people that despise him including Kristen, Jada, Paulina, and Chanel, who took him to task for her adoption loss. EJ adds that there’s also Johnny, who now thinks he is a monster thanks to Kate and Roman dropping that bombshell on him. EJ declares that he curses them for that as he’s sure they curse him.

Chanel goes home to Paulina’s where Paulina has fallen asleep on the couch with a book. Chanel wakes her up and asks if she’d seen Johnny. Paulina says she hasn’t seen him tonight and asks if something is wrong. Chanel responds that she doesn’t know, but she hopes not.

At the Brady Pub, Roman gets a call from Kate and says he has to take it, so Johnny says he’ll watch the bar. Roman steps away to answer Kate’s call, while Johnny heads behind the bar to steal Roman’s gun.

Kate walks through the park on the phone with Roman and informs him that their son Rex was in a hit and run accident tonight. Kate says Rex is fine and just shaken up, but she can’t help wonder if it was really an accident after EJ threatened to harm her children. Kate wonders if EJ could be part of it and thinks they need to find out. Kate declares that if EJ was behind this, he will regret it. Kate then hangs up and pulls a gun from her purse.

EJ brings up Ava having it in for him as well as she’s still fuming over what happened to her in Aremid. EJ calls it unfair to blame him when Kristen was far more culpable.

Ava goes to the DiMera Mansion and pulls her gun out of her purse.

Some time later…

EJ looks up to the portrait of Stefano and asks if Stefano has any advice to share on how to get back in his son’s good graces. EJ isn’t sure why he’s asking since it’s not like Stefano had any impressive people skills, but he is his father’s son and Stefano was always one step ahead, while so is he. EJ sits down and finishes his drink, then declares he wins. Someone then appears in the room. EJ looks at them and questions what they are doing..

JJ goes to the police station and calls Gabi, leaving a message that he stopped by her house earlier to see if she wanted to get a drink but it didn’t seem like anyone was home and her office said she had been gone for hours. JJ says he’s not sure what she’s up to tonight, but he’s catching up with work at the police station and tells her to give him a call right away as he’s wondering where she is.

EJ is shot in the chest and collapses.

Paulina questions why Chanel looks so worried and what could be wrong. Chanel says it may be nothing but Johnny said he was going to see Roman at the Pub and that was awhile ago. Chanel says she’s called and texted with no response. Paulina encourages that Roman and Johnny are probably just together and not paying attention to their phones. Chanel feels she should go to the Pub to make sure everything is okay.

Chad goes to the DiMera Mansion and calls out to EJ asking if he’s there. Chad walks in to the living room and finds EJ bleeding on the floor after having been shot. Chad rushes to his side and tells him it’s going to be okay.

At the hospital, Kayla asks Cat what she’s doing there at this hour. Cat says she’s just working on the hospital fundraiser while Marlena is out of town. Kayla acknowledges Cat’s hard work and thanks her. Cat hopes they are able to raise enough funds to keep the hospital going for awhile. Cat tells Kayla that she will forward the spreadsheets to her to look at whenever she can. Kayla mentions being halfway through a 36 hour shift and being on call. Kayla notes that the ER has been unnaturally calm, so she offers to look at Cat’s files now.

Chad calls for an ambulance for EJ, noting he’s been shot in the chest and there’s a lot of blood. Chad says EJ is still breathing but not responding and calls for help fast. Chad hangs up and encourages EJ that he’s going to be okay as help is on the way.

Kate enters the Brady Pub and thinks back to EJ threatening to hurt her children where she said she would kill him if he laid a finger on her children. Kate calls Roman and leaves a message that she needs to talk to him and to call her as soon as she gets the message. Ava comes downstairs with her bag packed, so Kate asks if she’s going somewhere. Ava responds that she is leaving Salem.

Kayla is impressed by the band that Cat got for the hospital fundraiser. Cat says she called in favors and says it’s no big deal. Kayla questions how on earth she got Chad to participate in the bachelor auction. Cat responds that he knows it’s for a good cause but admits it was a struggle. Kayla notes that Cat and Chad have been spending a lot of time together. Cat says they have been working on the fundraiser and she’s so relieved that they are on good terms because it’s a miracle that he’s even speaking to her after what she put him through. Kayla asks if she’s aware that Chad was seeing her daughter Stephanie. Cat confirms that she remembers that. Kayla says it seemed that they really had something, but in the end, Chad wasn’t ready to move on as it was too soon. Cat understands what she’s saying and says she’s only involved in the fundraiser to help the hospital. Cat adds that after all the hospital did for her sister, it’s the least she could do. Cat tells Kayla about her sister having an open heart surgery when she was a kid which inspired Mark to go to med school, so she wants to honor what the hospital has meant to her brother and sister. Kayla then gets paged to the ER about a gunshot wound coming in. Kayla tells Cat that she’s glad they had this little talk as she walks away. Chad then arrives, wiping blood from his hands. Cat rushes up and asks what happened. Chad informs her that his brother was shot.

At the police station, one of the cops informs JJ that EJ was shot at the DiMera Mansion, leaving JJ shocked.

Paulina tells Chanel that she understands with what Johnny has been through lately. Chanel worries that Johnny was in such a bad place even before the adoption fell through as finding out how he was conceived changed how he looked at his father and everyone who kept the secret from him, including himself since he realizes that he wouldn’t be here if not for what his father did. Chanel talks about not knowing what to do. Paulina encourages her to just be there like she is for her and notes that Chanel’s been going through it too. Chanel says she’s been so worried about Johnny that she hasn’t even taken the time to mourn their loss. Chanel talks about feeling so bad when Amy said the adoption fell through because of EJ and the first thing Johnny said was that he was sorry like it was his fault. Paulina argues that Johnny couldn’t help who his father is and what he does. Paulina declares that the only person to blame is EJ. Chanel says she said the same thing, revealing that she talked to EJ because she wanted him to know exactly how much Johnny was suffering because of him. Chanel brings up that EJ told her Paulina gave him Hell too. Chanel adds that Johnny said EJ was dead to him. Chanel feels so guilty for thinking that if EJ were out of their lives, they would all be so much better off. Paulina responds that she felt the same way about Lani’s father, Ray, and didn’t want him to make her life miserable. Paulina tells Chanel to just be there and she’ll handle the rest. Paulina promises not to let EJ ruin the adoption for her. Chanel thanks her but at this point, she doesn’t think anything will change Amy’s mind if there’s any chance that EJ will have any influence over the baby’s life. Paulina thinks back to confronting EJ about the adoption falling through where she told him that no one gets away with messing with her baby. Paulina then tells Chanel that there’s something she should know.

Kate questions Ava leaving Salem. Ava informs her that she’s moving to Hong Kong to be with Tripp and Wendy. Kate asks about Brady. Ava says that’s over as she ended it, so there’s nothing really left for her here. Ava calls it kind of ironic since Kristen’s mother wanted everyone to believe she was in Hong Kong while holding her captive and now she’s off to Hong Kong. Kate thought she recanted that story. Ava says she did to the police because she had no other choice even though Kristen and her mother are getting away with what they did to her. Kate adds that EJ is as well. Ava thinks back to her last confrontation with EJ where she warned him that she could get justice in other ways. Ava remarks to Kate that she must not forget EJ.

Cat asks Chad if they said anything about EJ’s condition. Chad responds that he was barely hanging on. Cat tells Chad that she’s sorry. Chad says it’s no secret that he and EJ didn’t really get along, but he’s his family and he doesn’t have a lot of that left. Chad recalls EJ being there for him on the night that Abigail died. Cat points out that now Chad is there for him. Chad brings up that EJ was furious with him today which isn’t new, but you always think you will have time to tell people what they really mean to you. Chad supposes he should know better by now. JJ arrives and tells Chad that he just heard about EJ and he’s sorry. Chad asks if they have anything yet. JJ says the forensics team is at the mansion but he understands Chad is the one who found him. JJ knows it’s a difficult time but says he’s going to need Chad’s statement. Chad responds that he doesn’t really know anything and if he wants a list of EJ’s enemies, they’ll be there all night.

Roman returns to the Brady Pub and tells Kate that he got her messages and needs to talk to her too. Roman then sees Ava with her bags packed and questions what’s going on. Kate informs him that Ava is leaving town. Ava confirms she’s moving to Hong Kong to be with Tripp and Wendy. Roman calls that sudden. Ava says not for her as she’s been considering it for awhile since she misses her son. Roman says he can understand that. Ava acknowledges that Roman has been so good to her and she’s grateful to him. Roman admits he’s sorry to see her go. Ava says maybe she’ll be back someday. Ava returns her key to Roman. Roman comments that she really is ready to go. Ava responds that she can’t shake the dust from this town from her feet fast enough.

Chanel asks Paulina what it is. Paulina starts to explain but Johnny comes in. Chanel runs up to him and hugs him, saying she was so worried. Johnny asks why since he told her that he was going to talk to Roman. Chanel brings up that she left him messages. Johnny says he turned his notifications off. Chanel questions if he was just talking to Roman this whole time. Johnny admits that he actually left the Pub awhile ago. Chanel then asks where he went.

Roman wishes Ava well. Ava wishes the same for he and Kate, noting they are very lucky to have each other. Ava tells Roman that he’s done so much for her. Roman admits they got off to a rough start, but he’s glad he could help. Roman tells her to give their best to Tripp and Wendy. Roman advises Ava to stay out of trouble. Ava then takes her bags and exits the Pub as Roman closes the Pub. Kate calls that unexpected. Roman says that’s how it goes in Salem. Kate asks what Roman wanted to talk to her about before Ava interrupted. Roman says he was going to ask her the same thing, but ladies first. Kate responds that it’s about EJ.

Chad tells JJ that he called the ambulance and then they rode to the hospital. Chad says EJ was out of it most of the way. JJ asks if Chad saw or heard anyone or anything when he arrived on the scene. Chad says there was nothing. JJ asks why Chad was stopping by so late. Chad informs JJ of the article in the Spectator about his family which is especially unflattering for EJ. Chad explains that EJ assumed he was behind it and left him a pissed off voicemail, so he came to explain that as the editor, he has to be impartial and that’s his job even if it makes his family look bad. Chad says he never got the chance to talk to EJ and brings up the last time he walked in to the house and saw that much blood was the night they lost to Abigail. JJ tells Chad that he’s sorry and prays for a different outcome this time. JJ tells Chad to let him know if he thinks of anything else. JJ says he’s heading to the crime scene and will update him later if there’s anything he can share. JJ then exits. Cat comes over to Chad and says she knows he might not be ready but offers to call anyone he needs. Chad says he should be the one to call his family. Chad says he was hoping to wait until he had news to share but should probably call before they see it on the news. Chad remarks that half of them are probably going to rejoice.

Chanel asks Johnny if he heard her. Johnny apologizes and says he spaced out. Chanel asks him again where he went after leaving the Pub. Johnny thinks back to his confrontation with EJ where he told EJ that he was dead to him. Johnny then tells Chanel that he just went for a walk in the park to clear his head. Chanel asks if it helped but Johnny gets a call from Chad. Johnny answers and asks what’s going on. Chad says he didn’t know if Johnny heard the news about his father. Johnny asks what about him. Chad informs Johnny that he’s at the hospital now and reveals that EJ was shot and is in critical condition, so he just thought he would want to know.

JJ joins the police team at the DiMera Mansion. JJ brings how a lot of people live there to question including the servants. JJ asks if Jada is there yet but the cop says they haven’t been able to reach her. JJ says they’ll see what the evidence tells them happened here tonight as he walks past the statue that still holds the bugging device that Rafe planted.

Ava walks to the park and disposes of her gun in the trash can as she then quickly walks off.

Roman asks Kate what about EJ. Kate says they need to figure out if EJ specifically targeted Rex and caused the accident. Kate is thankful that Rex is okay but it could’ve been worse. Roman assures they will get to the bottom of this and promises to make sure her kids stay safe. Kate thanks him and doesn’t know what she would do without him. Roman says he’ll always be there for her and her kids. Kate responds that she’ll always be there for him as they hug. Roman knows Kate wanted to call Rex to check on him and suggests she go do that as he has a couple things to do and then he’ll be up in awhile to talk some more. Kate thanks Roman. Roman says to give Rex his love as Kate heads upstairs. Roman thinks back to telling Johnny about having a gun behind the bar. Roman then goes behind the bar to his locked box and places the gun back inside.

Johnny thanks Chad for calling and hangs up. Chanel asks what’s going on and what Chad said. Johnny informs her and Paulina that EJ was shot tonight and is in the hospital. Chanel says she’ll go with him, but Johnny questions why he would go to the hospital. Johnny doesn’t care what happens to EJ and remarks that he got what he deserves. Johnny then walks off to the bedroom.

Chad finishes a call with EJ’s daughter Sydney. Chad then sees Kayla come out of the ER and calls her over to ask how EJ is.

Chanel runs in to Johnny in the town square. Johnny says he wanted to come check on her as he didn’t think she would be going to work today. Chanel thought it would take her mind off Amy Choi pulling the plug on their adoption but it didn’t work. Johnny says he can’t stop thinking about it either. Chanel wishes that article was never posted so Amy would not have found out about all the terrible things EJ has done.

Ava sits in her room, reading the article on EJ in the Spectator and comments on how much trouble, heartache, and misery EJ has caused in town but says what goes around, comes around.

EJ has a drink at home in the living room of the DiMera Mansion as he thinks back to calling Belle out for wearing a wire.

Belle returns home and removes her wire in frustration. Brady comes in and tells her that he just got off the phone with Marlena. Brady says they don’t have a lot of information, but John may have been abducted. Brady guesses that if they went to all this trouble to take him, they need him alive so they will have to have faith. Belle remarks that’s getting a lot harder for her to do and says she’s not in the best place for this right now. Brady asks what happened and questions seeing the wire. Belle responds that she tried to get the goods on EJ but failed.

JJ finds Shawn in the park and tells him that the plan was a bust as EJ figured out that Belle was wearing a wire, so they got nothing on him. JJ notes Shawn is distracted and asks if he’s okay. Shawn responds that he just has a lot on his mind.

At the police station, Rafe tells Jada that he needs space. Jada feels they’ve had enough time apart and they can get through this together. Rafe says he can’t and that they need time to figure things out which he can’t do with her around. Rafe tells Jada that he’s going home, but she’s not going with him. Jada questions if he’s asking her to move out. Rafe thinks it’s best right now if they have some distance. Jada argues that they survived what EJ put them through so they can survive this. Rafe tells her there’s nothing else to say and storms out, leaving Jada in tears.

Rafe goes home where Gabi is sitting at the table with her laptop. Gabi thought he and Jada would be out late. Rafe responds that she’s not coming home. Gabi questions what’s wrong. Rafe then informs Gabi that Jada cheated on him.

Jada goes to Paulina’s. Paulina comments that she looks like hell and asks what’s going on. Jada says she needs to discuss something with her. Paulina asks if it couldn’t be over the phone or wait until tomorrow. Jada clarifies that it’s not business, but personal. Paulina offers to get some wine but Jada doesn’t want to take up too much of her time since it’s getting late. Paulina insists since it’s just them as Abe is out of town visiting Eli and Lani while Chanel and Johnny won’t be home anytime soon after the news they got. Jada asks what happened. Paulina informs her that EJ screwed them out of adopting their baby.

Chanel suggests to Johnny that they get out of town to clear their heads but Johnny says he owes Roman a visit since he’s been trying to get ahold of him since yesterday. Johnny tells Chanel that he will see her later tonight and he loves her as he walks away.

Ava remarks that it’s bad enough that Kristen and her mother got away with what they did to her, so she questions why EJ should get away when he hurts people for sport. Ava declares that the police won’t make him pay, but there are other ways for justice to be served as she grabs her gun.

Paulina tells Jada that the article about EJ was the last straw and then Amy Choi didn’t want her grandchild near anyone named DiMera. Jada remarks that EJ has a specialty for ruining people’s lives. Paulina asks what Jada wanted to talk to her about. Jada calls it a personal issue that she didn’t think would get in the way of the job, but it’s out there, so she may get asked about it as Mayor. Jada then reveals to Paulina that she slept with Shawn.

JJ questions what’s on Shawn’s mind that’s a bigger deal than bringing EJ down. JJ asks if it’s about he and Jada. Shawn responds that Jada is probably telling Rafe right now as they speak.

Rafe reveals to Gabi that Jada slept with Shawn. Gabi didn’t know they were even having problems. Rafe clarifies that it happened before they found him, after Arnold left Jada at the altar. Gabi can’t imagine how he must feel but feels the circumstances are a little different than cheating. Rafe questions why Jada didn’t tell him for weeks. Gabi says she can’t defend that but Jada wasn’t trying to hurt Rafe and was tricked by Arnold like they all were. Gabi argues that she was there and watched Arnold humiliate Jada in front of half the town. Rafe questions thinking he would do the things Arnold did. Gabi says they knew something was off, but Jada didn’t know someone was pretending to be him and she didn’t either. Gabi argues that Jada’s only known him for a couple of years while she’s known him her entire life. Gabi gets the situation is screwed up but questions how he can blame Jada for any of this. Gabi declares that the only person responsible for this mess is EJ.

Chanel goes to the DiMera Mansion and tells EJ that she doesn’t give a damn what he’s in the mood for after he sabotaged any chance she and Johnny had of adopting a baby. EJ says to get it over with and tells her to air her list of grievances, noting that Paulina just gave him an earful but maybe she missed something. Chanel tells EJ that she didn’t drive over just to tell him that she’s pissed at him but because she wants him to answer why he insists on ruining people’s lives, especially those that he claims to care the most about.

Brady admits to Belle that it was pretty brave of her. Belle calls it stupid since EJ figured out she was wearing a wire in two seconds. Belle talks about EJ being furious that she was lying to him and he said that she only wanted to send him to prison to remove the temptation. Brady talks about being on the other end of a DiMera tongue lashing and suggests not taking it too seriously. Belle responds that she wouldn’t, but she thinks EJ might be right.

Shawn tells JJ that Jada realized she can’t control this and that the truth is going to come out, so she wanted to be the one to tell Rafe. JJ suggests maybe she left Shawn’s name out. JJ encourages that Shawn didn’t do anything wrong and neither did Jada. Shawn doesn’t think Jada will lie to Rafe again, so he probably knows now that his friend slept with his fiancée.

Paulina points out to Jada that she would’ve slept with Shawn after she fired her and before she got her job back, so there’s no issue here and she’ll handle it if it goes to the press. Paulina adds that something tells her she wasn’t crying on the way over because of that. Jada informs her that she and Rafe really got in to it and he asked her not to come home because he blames her for not realizing sooner that Arnold wasn’t him. Paulina calls that ridiculous. Jada feels after everything with Bobby, she’s been off her game and agrees that she should’ve figured it out sooner, not only as detective but as a person who loves Rafe more than anyone. Paulina stops her and assures that she’s not to blame for what happened and they both know exactly who is to blame.

Gabi complains that this is all EJ’s fault. Rafe argues that it’s not that simple. Gabi argues that Jada only slept with Shawn because she thought Rafe dumped her on her wedding day and then EJ kidnapped him, so they know none of this would’ve happened if it wasn’t for him. Gabi shouts that EJ ruined Rafe’s life almost as much as he ruined her life and she could kill him for it…

Chanel argues that EJ knew that she and Johnny were trying to adopt a baby and all he had to do was keep his nose clean but he couldn’t help himself. EJ blames Chad posting the article. Chanel argues that it’s not about the article, but about his actions and choices. EJ responds that he wants to make it right and says he told Johnny that he would talk to Amy Choi for them. Chanel calls EJ a dangerous man and says Amy is terrified of him being anywhere near her grandchild. Chanel adds that she would be too. EJ supposes it’s for the best then that Johnny doesn’t want him involved and that he’s dead to him.

Johnny goes to the Brady Pub to see Roman and says he would’ve gotten back to him sooner, but the adoption fell through after Amy read the article about EJ and that was it. Roman tells Johnny that he is so sorry, especially with Johnny still dealing with learning about what EJ did to Sami. Roman says he always thought Johnny should know the truth when he’s old enough but that wasn’t his call and Kate wouldn’t have said anything if he hadn’t put his foot in his mouth. Johnny says he hates that it even happened, but he hates that Sami went on to marry EJ twice and he hates that everyone decided to keep it from him. Johnny declares that most of all, he hates his father. Roman says he knows the feeling but this is all fresh to him while he’s known it all his life. Johnny asks if he thinks one day won’t be as angry because he doesn’t think so. Roman hopes that in time, Johnny will understand Sami and why they honored her wishes but EJ is a whole other deal. Roman admits Johnny’s anger may never go away like his hasn’t. Roman then remarks that part of him wants to get his gun and shoot EJ.

Brady asks Belle if she wants truth or comfort right now. Brady says he knows what it’s like to have a DiMera that you just can’t shake. Belle says he already gave her this lecture and she knows how toxic their dynamic is. Brady says that a lot has changed since then. Brady talks about being an addict and says he was addicted to Kristen as every time he tried to push her away, he found himself going back to her, but he eventually kicked the habit. Brady says he’s grateful to Kristen for giving him Rachel, but he doesn’t have that spell over him anyway and he only thinks about the pain they caused each other. Brady says he was able to move on so he thinks Belle can too. Belle argues that’s easy for him to say because he found someone else that he loves but she doesn’t have an Ava in her life. Brady then informs her that he doesn’t either as he and Ava broke up.

Ava thinks back to her last confrontation with EJ. Ava looks back at the article as she holds her gun and declares that EJ is not getting away with it this time.

Johnny questions Roman having a gun behind the bar. Roman says that small business owners have to protect themselves. Johnny asks how long he’s had it. Roman says he always has and just made sure it was locked up so no one got hurt, but instead his big mouth hurt Johnny. Roman says when he first heard that EJ was working with Arnold again, it brought back everything. Johnny is glad that Roman and Kate told him the truth because he needed to know and now he knows what kind of monster his dad really is.

Chanel tells EJ that she didn’t know Johnny told him that he’s dead to him but it doesn’t shock her and asks how he expected Johnny to react after finding out that EJ raped his mother. EJ calls that a long time ago and says he’s spent decades trying to right that terrible wrong. Chanel argues that he spent decades trying to cover it up. EJ says he was protecting Johnny while Chanel says he was protecting himself. EJ points out that it was what Sami wanted. Chanel doesn’t know how Sami forgave him but that’s between them and adds that maybe Johnny could have too if EJ didn’t team up with the other man who assaulted his mother. Chanel says that showed a pattern and clear lack of remorse. Chanel tells EJ that he doesn’t deserve forgiveness, so Johnny will never give it to him.

Rafe tells Gabi that she can’t go around saying she’s going to kill people as that’s a crime. Gabi asks if he’s going to turn her in. Rafe reminds her that she just got freedom back so they shouldn’t risk or joke about it. Rafe remarks that they both know she’d never really try to kill EJ. Gabi asks if he’s sure about that. Gabi then thinks back to pulling a gun on EJ. Gabi tells Rafe that they’ve both been pushed to their limits by EJ and asks who knows what they are capable of.

Belle questions Brady about he and Ava breaking up. Brady says they have been on the rocks ever since he asked her to cover for Rachel, so yesterday they just called it. Brady decides he’s going to bed in case Marlena calls with more information. Brady suggests Belle turn in too since she’s had one hell of a day. Belle thinks she should check in with Jada first to make sure she knows about her disaster. They say goodnight to each other as Brady heads to his room.

Shawn asks JJ how he could’ve been so stupid. JJ encourages that it’s not his fault since they thought Rafe dumped Jada. Shawn says even if it was Rafe, he should be more pissed at him since Jada was his ex and he was a crappy friend. JJ gets that but blames the circumstances. JJ mentions going to see Gabi and offers to find out how much Rafe knows. Shawn thanks him. JJ asks what are partners for as he walks away.

Jada knows Paulina is trying to make her feel better but she can’t just absolve herself of all responsibility here. Paulina argues that EJ manipulates and muddies the waters so people don’t know what is what. Paulina states that every horrible thing in Salem for the past few weeks can be traced back to him. Paulina has faith that one day, EJ will have to face the consequences for everything that he’s done. Jada tells Paulina that she asked Belle to wear a wire to see if she could get EJ to admit to kidnapping Rafe. Paulina calls it underhanded but says she loves it. Jada then gets Belle’s text that EJ figured out what she was up to, so it was a bust. Jada questions if Paulina still has faith that EJ will pay for what he’s done. Paulina says not unless someone made EJ pay and declares that they’d be doing the world a favor by taking care of EJ once and for all.

EJ tells Chanel that she’s made her point that his son hates him. EJ doubts she gives a damn but says it’s very painful for him. Chanel agrees that she doesn’t give a damn and says she won’t interfere on his behalf. EJ asks her to tell Johnny that he loves him. Chanel says she will tell him, even though she’s sure it’s the last thing he wants to hear right now. Chanel then walks out of the mansion.

Roman repeats to Johnny that he’s so sorry that he has to go through this and asks if he’s talked to his mother. Johnny says he’s called her a few times, but he’s pretty sure she’s avoiding him. Roman talks about Sami not wanting Johnny to know to keep it from affecting his relationship with his father. Johnny asks how it couldn’t. Roman brings up how EJ came in, threatening Kate and her sons when he found out it was Kate who told Johnny what happened. Johnny says he’s sorry about that since EJ did it in his name and won’t stop. Johnny brings up EJ having the nerve to come to Paulina’s to ask for forgiveness. Johnny remarks that it took everything he had to not take the knife off the table and stab him with it. Ava comes downstairs, so Roman calls out to her that he fixed the water heater but Ava rushes on out of the Pub. Johnny questions what’s up with her. Roman responds that he has no idea, but he knows a woman on a mission when he sees one.

JJ goes to the Hernandez house and knocks on the door, asking if Gabi or Rafe are home but there is no answer and the house is empty.

Shawn remains in the park and texts Jada, asking if she’s okay.

Jada returns to the police station and gets Shawn’s text. Jada remarks to herself that she is far from okay.

Chanel goes home to Paulina’s where Paulina has fallen asleep on the couch with a book. Chanel wakes her up and asks if she’d seen Johnny. Paulina says she hasn’t seen him tonight and asks if something is wrong. Chanel responds that she doesn’t know, but she hopes not.

Roman gets a call from Kate and says he has to take it, so Johnny says he’ll watch the bar. Roman steps away to answer Kate’s call, while Johnny heads behind the bar to steal Roman’s gun.

Ava goes to the DiMera Mansion and pulls her gun out of her purse.

Some time later…EJ is having a drink in the living room and looks up to the portrait of Stefano. EJ asks if Stefano has any advice to share on how to get back in his son’s good graces. EJ isn’t sure why he’s asking since it’s not like Stefano had any impressive people skills, but he is his father’s son and Stefano was always one step ahead, while so is he. EJ sits down and finishes his drink, then declares he wins. Someone then appears in the room. EJ looks at them and questions what they are doing..
