Cat and Chad have breakfast together in the town square. Chad asks how Felicity is doing. Cat says working at the Bakery has been great for her and she’s still riding high from her Olympiad ceremony. Cat asks what Chad wanted to talk to her about in person. Chad informs her that he talked to EJ about the auction date and it’s officially off. Cat asks if EJ cancelled it but Chad reveals that he did.

Abe joins Chanel in the living room of Abe and Paulina’s new apartment. Chanel comments on how quickly they got everything unpacked. Abe asks if Chanel is really okay. Chanel admits she’s been having trouble sleeping. Abe says he’s sorry about the adoption falling through. Chanel can’t explain how much it hurts. Abe responds that he knows exactly how she feels.

Johnny goes to see Xander in his Titan office. Xander brings up Johnny staying at the Salem Inn and comments that he must have spent half his time in Salem there. Xander promises Johnny that if he comes to work at Titan, he’ll be eating like a king again in no time. Xander asks if Johnny has given any thought to his offer.

Kayla goes to her office at the hospital and finds EJ at her desk. Kayla questions what he’s doing in her office. EJ responds that he believes they have unfinished business to discuss.

Chad tells Cat that EJ’s donation is non-refundable. Chad asks if she’s not disappointed about the date being off. Cat jokes about looking forward to dining out with the mysterious EJ DiMera. Cat admits it was a little strange since EJ donated a lot of money but is apparently dating Belle now. Chad explains that EJ said he woke up from his coma as a more generous person. Cat questions EJ bidding on her because he’s a nice guy and calls it strange that he made such a big donation when he’s obviously spoken for. Cat says she’s just not used to people throwing that much money around. Chad mentions offering to reimburse EJ. Chad says he loves his brother but he’s not someone she should be in debt to. Chad adds that EJ didn’t accept his offer but gave him a counter offer that the money go towards Cat going on a date with him instead.

EJ tells Kayla that he thought she should sleep on his offer and brings up how much stress she’s been under with the hospital funding and being desperate for a buyer. Kayla says desperate is not the word she would choose. EJ says he wanted to give her a second chance to accept his timely offer before he goes to the board. EJ adds that if he acquires the hospital, one of his priorities would be maintaining a staff that is competent and loyal. Kayla asks if that’s a threat. EJ argues that he’s offering her the chance to be a hero and save the hospital. Kayla says she’s well aware of the DiMeras donation to the hospital but repeats that every dollar from Stefano came with strings, so she presumes EJ will be the same. EJ says no strings but Kayla feels she cannot in good faith sign off on the DiMeras taking control of the hospital which is part of Tom and Alice’s legacy. Kayla thinks they would be appalled if she let that happen. Kayla wishes EJ luck. EJ warns that she’s being very unwise and she will soon realize her stance is pointless because he’s going to own the hospital one way or another. EJ then walks out of the office.

Johnny asks Xander if they can be real with each other and questions why Xander is interested in hiring him at Titan since he has limited experience in the corporate world. Xander agrees that his resume is thin but he knows he’s smart and capable. Xander thinks it would be reassuring for the remaining DiMera employees to have a respectable DiMera around who doesn’t have real blood with the Kiriakis family. Xander knows business can get messy. Johnny says family can too. Johnny says it all sounds great but he said they were going to be real with each other. Johnny questions if there’s no other reason that Xander might want to hire him at Titan, like using him to get at his father. Xander asks if that would be a deal breaker.

EJ walks by Marlena at the hospital. Marlena asks if something is wrong. EJ responds that he’s finding that trying to do something nice for someone else is not that rewarding. Marlena finds that cynical. EJ complains the he almost died and his son has no empathy for him. EJ adds that everyone is treating him like the criminal instead of the victim and he finds that demoralizing. Marlena asks if he wants to get something off his chest. EJ questions how he can continue to change and evolve if everyone is so skeptical that he’s even able to change. Marlena says he must know why people are skeptical, pointing out that he’s hurt so many people in the past. EJ guesses it was a mistake to think she would understand. Marlena says to let her finish. Marlena advises EJ that if he wants people to think better of him, he has to give them a chance and they will come around eventually. EJ asks if she really thinks someone like him is capable of change. Marlena assures that she does. Marlena brings up Belle thinking EJ is sincere about wanting to change, so she thinks he has hope. EJ says that means a lot to him and he appreciates her faith in him. EJ assures Marlena that he’s very grateful that Belle is in his life as he deeply cares for her, but that doesn’t seem to please her. Marlena confirms that it worries her because she’s seen what happens to people that EJ cares about. Marlena then asks EJ if he loves Belle.

Sarah goes to see Kayla in her office. Kayla asks what she’s doing here instead of being off on her mini honeymoon. Sarah assures she’s going but wanted to check on some patients first. Sarah asks Kayla to check on one of her patients while she’s gone which she agrees to do. Sarah thanks Kayla for letting her skip the medical conference. Kayla assures that she deserves the vacation. Sarah asks who she sent in her place. Kayla says she sent Dr. Jeffery Russell. Sarah questions when he was last even out of his lab. Kayla says it’s been awhile and he deserved a break. Sarah decides she will let Kayla get back to her paper work. Kayla stops her to let her know that EJ came by and offered to buy the hospital. Sarah calls that amazing since EJ could save it from closing but Kayla reveals that he won’t because she told him to take a hike.

EJ tells Marlena how much Belle means to him and swears that she’s in good hands. Marlena worries that he will squeeze the life out of her like what happened to Sami. EJ admits his past actions are indefensible and says all he can do is try to do better going forward as a partner and father. EJ asks if Marlena is still willing to speak to Johnny to put in a good word for him. Marlena agrees to ask Johnny to contact him. EJ thanks her. Marlena clarifies that she’s not doing it for EJ but for Johnny because he’s carrying around so much that she’s worried about what he might do next. EJ thinks back to Johnny pulling the gun on him. Marlena then asks if EJ is alright.

Johnny tells Xander that he really doesn’t care why he wants to bring him in to Titan and sticking it to EJ actually makes the offer more attractive. Johnny says he’s been adamant that he wanted nothing to do with the family business so he’s sure EJ would be especially displeased if he’s working for the company that took it from him. Johnny asks Xander what exactly his job would be here. Xander responds that he’d be a valued employee at Titan. Johnny says he’ll need more time to think about it. Xander mentions heading out of town with Sarah for a long weekend getaway and says he’s sure Johnny will want to discuss this with his wife too. They shake hands as Xander tells Johnny that they will talk about this when he gets back.

Abe talks to Chanel about how he and Lexie raised Isaac for two years until they had to turn him over to Bo and Hope and how Lexie went off a cliff afterwards. Chanel doesn’t want to compare what she’s going through to what they went through since she hasn’t even met Sophia’s baby yet. Abe feels that doesn’t make it any less painful. Chanel points out that Abe and Lexie were able to get past it and asks if having Theo made things better for them. Abe confirms it definitely helped heal their hearts. Chanel thanks Abe for sharing but says as things stand now for her and Johnny, he’s lost his desire to be a father so there isn’t going to be a miracle baby. Chanel cries that she’s not sure that she and Johnny will be able to heal their hearts like Abe and Lexie were. Chanel adds that she’s not sure that she and Johnny will be able to find their way back to each other.

Cat questions Chad wanting to go on a date with her. Chad says if he’s okay with a last minute substitution. Cat asks if he’s okay with it. Chad admits he thought it might be weird because of their history but says they are friends now and as her friend, he’s saving her from an awkward date with EJ. Chad calls it an expression of gratitude for everything she did for the fundraiser. Cat responds that she couldn’t have done it without him. Chad says they make a great team then since they raised a lot of money which Cat notes was for a wonderful cause. Chad asks if Cat is going to go on this date with him then, noting it came with a hefty price tag but that doesn’t mean they can’t have a casual date of dinner and a movie as a fun night. Cat then agrees to the date.

Sarah understands why Kayla would be wary of EJ owning the hospital, considering all that his family has done over the years. Kayla notes Sarah’s expression and asks if she thinks she’s making a mistake turning it down. Sarah admits she was relieved at possibly keeping her job or the hospital being saved, but Kayla is Chief of Staff, so it’s her call to make. Kayla asks what if her call means the hospital goes out of business for good. Sarah says all the donations had to buy them some time. Kayla says they are not out of the woods yet. Sarah feels if EJ is offering to buy something, he thinks it’s a good investment, so if he’s interested in the hospital then there has to be other buyers out there too.

Marlena questions EJ wincing which he notes is just residual pain from his gunshot wound. Marlena offers to call a nurse but EJ says he’ll be fine and asks Marlena to let him know how things go with Johnny as he walks away. Sarah comes by, surprising Marlena as she thought she had left for her trip already. Sarah explains that she’s making one last round to check on her patients and then she’s out. Marlena tells her that she and Xander deserve this as they worked very hard for rest and relaxation.

Chanel tells Abe that she loves Johnny and knows he didn’t mean to hurt her, but she’s having a really hard time forgiving him. Chanel questions why Johnny didn’t come to her when he was struggling and having doubts. Abe guesses he was afraid of hurting her. Chanel complains that this hurts so much more and questions him calling off the adoption with no warning or discussion. Abe agrees that Johnny didn’t handle it the right way. Chanel brings up Abe saying Lexie went off a cliff after they lost Isaac and worries that the same thing could’ve happened to Johnny around the time EJ was shot.

Johnny walks through the town square and comes across Chad and Cat. Chad says he needs to talk to him. Johnny says he’s on his way to meet Marlena but Chad promises it will only take a second, so Cat goes to get coffee refills. Chad tells Johnny that EJ is anxious to see him but Johnny says he’s busy and patching things up with EJ is not on his list. Chad says he knows they had this discussion when EJ was in a coma but he’s awake now. Chad encourages Johnny to think about the good times they’ve had and that EJ is sorry for his mistakes. Johnny argues that it was a lot more than mistakes as he violated his mother and lied to him for years while pretending to be someone he wasn’t. Johnny declares that he’s not ready to forgive EJ yet. Johnny asks Chad if he could forgive somebody who caused him that much pain.

EJ returns home to find Jeffrey at the door to the DiMera Mansion. Jeffrey says he doesn’t have much time since Kayla is sending him to a medical conference and asks what she said to his offer. EJ informs him that Kayla turned him down, so Jeffrey asks if his research dies with the hospital. EJ says not quite as there are other avenues to explore. EJ says they may have lost today’s battle but they will win the war.

Abe questions Chanel saying Johnny went off a cliff around the time EJ was shot. Chanel says she didn’t mean to say that and wants to drop it but Abe questions if she’s considering the possibility that Johnny shot his father. Chanel admits she can’t stop thinking about Johnny saying his father was dead to him and then saying he wished that he had died. Chanel adds that on the night of the shooting, Johnny was gone for a long time and when he came back, he seemed so distant. Chanel asks Abe what she should do. Abe responds that she should talk to him and maybe Johnny can help ease her mind. Chanel hopes so and thanks Abe for listening as they hug. Abe assures that he’s always here. Chanel decides she should get to work and goes to get ready.

Marlena and Johnny eat together at the Pub. Marlena asks if he’s spoken to Chanel. Johnny says he saw her yesterday and she seemed more understanding about him backing out of the adoption. Marlena calls that a positive development. Johnny notes that she’s still not ready for him to come home. Marlena says she will need time to grieve the loss and he will need to be there every step of the way. Marlena adds that if he’s hoping to reconcile and get back to where they were, he’s going to have to figure out who he is and the only way to do that is by talking to his father.

EJ tells Jeffrey to have a good trip and says he will let him know if there’s any updates on the hospital. Jeffrey wishes him luck as EJ heads in to the DiMera Mansion. Jeffrey then gets a call from Xander, who says he’s heard about his research in to the cure for Sepsis which he calls impressive. Xander tells him that he has an offer from him. Jeffrey responds that he’s not sure how he heard about his trials but the drug is owned by University Hospital and is not for sale. Xander says that he was told the same thing about DiMera Enterprises and now he owns it. Xander tells Jeffrey to keep his number as he’ll be in touch and then hangs up. Sarah then joins Xander in the town square and tells him that she’s officially off the clock and all her patients are covered. Sarah mentions Kayla sending Jeffrey in her place. Xander says that’s nice of Kayla and suggests bringing her back a bottle of wine. Sarah notes Kayla being very stressed lately and brings up EJ offering to buy the hospital but Kayla turned him down. Xander is surprised but Sarah says no more talk about work. Xander agrees and suggests they divide and conquer their errands before they go. Sarah agrees to head to the pharmacy while Xander gets snacks. Xander then calls Alex and tells him that he’s about to go out of town but he needs to move on the hospital now.

Kayla calls Steve and tells him that Jeffrey is en route to Chicago and the rest of his team has the weekend off so she thinks they are ready to move.

Johnny understands why Marlena thinks he should talk to his dad and agrees to think about it. Marlena guesses that’s the most she can ask. Marlena thinks it would be a good idea if he would talk to somebody about his feelings. Johnny points out that’s what he’s doing now. Marlena suggests therapy and offers to recommend somebody. Marlena feels he needs somebody who can help him through this crisis and help him clear his head, so he can be there when Chanel needs him. Johnny responds that he has some big career decisions to make as he reveals that Xander offered him a job. Marlena is surprised to learn that Xander wants him to work at Titan when Johnny never even wanted to work at DiMera. Johnny admits he always kind of hated the idea. Marlena asks what Xander is thinking he would do. Johnny says that Xander said they would figure it out. Marlena asks if Johnny is considering it. Johnny says part of him thinks maybe it’s time to settle down and get a real job. Johnny adds that he’s had a great time being a director but maybe taking a corporate job and a more real career path is the adult thing to do and a way to prove to Chanel that he can be the husband she needs by pressing the reset button on his life.

Chanel walks through the town square and comes across Sarah and Xander. Sarah tells her that they are about to have a getaway with their daughter Victoria. Chanel says it sounds like they will have a wonderful time. Chanel offers to get them something from the Bakery for the road. They agree to get scones so Chanel says she’ll be right back and heads to the Bakery while Cat and Chad discuss date plans nearby. Chad mentions the movies but Cat says all that’s showing is superhero films and suggests something more outdoors. Chad mentions rock climbing but Cat is unsure so they decide on a picnic by the river. They joke about pushing each other in to the water.

Kayla tells Steve that once he gets in to the lab, he can use the remote access to turn the cameras off. Kayla reminds him to take the one dose of Versivex and get out. Kayla declares that if this saves Bo, it will all be worth it. She tells him to be careful and hangs up.

Johnny thanks Marlena for always being there to listen. Marlena wishes she could do more. Johnny promises she’s done plenty and says he’s already thinking more carefully. Johnny tells her to text him the name of a therapist that she thinks would be a good fit which she agrees to do. Marlena hugs Johnny and says she knows it hasn’t been easy for him but she’s so proud of him. EJ then arrives. Marlena offers to stay but Johnny says he’s okay. Marlena tells him to take care and exits the Pub. EJ approaches Johnny and greets him.

Xander tells Sarah that their vacation has started and he already feels more relaxed. Sarah says she’s happy to be with her husband with no distractions. Sarah comments on her lemon scone tasting different and starts to choke. Chad and Cat express concern from their table while Xander shouts for someone to call 911.

At the DiMera Mansion, EJ calls Johnny and leaves a message that he knows Johnny is trying to avoid him but no matter how he feels or what happened between them, he will always love him. EJ then looks at the Spectator article on who shot him. EJ goes through the mail and comes across an envelope from DiMera that he wonders if it’s from Johnny.

Philip runs in to Stephanie in the town square. Philip says he was on his way to check in with Roman about Bo and invites her to come too. Stephanie says her parents are keeping her in the loop. Stephanie adds that she figures Philip and Kate would want to celebrate taking over DiMera and getting everything he ever wanted. Stephanie asks if it was all worth it.

Alex joins Xander in the living room of the Kiriakis Mansion. Alex explains that he just did a deep dive on DiMera Pharmaceuticals and they are sitting on a gold mine. Alex reminds Xander that he said all it takes is one breakthrough drug and this is it.

Belle runs in to Shawn at the Brady Pub and says she’s so sorry to hear about Bo. Belle encourages Shawn to stay strong as Bo won’t give up without a fight. Shawn responds that he won’t either.

Steve joins Kayla in her office at the hospital. Kayla informs him that Hope sent over Bo’s latest medical records and his condition is deteriorating rapidly. Steve tells her that he’s so sorry. Kayla worries that they are running out of time, so if Steve is going to steal the drug to save Bo’s life, he needs to do it now before it’s too late.

Philip thought he and Stephanie could call a truce with everything going on. Stephanie argues that what’s happening with Bo doesn’t give him a free pass and that Bo would be the first person to call him out for lying to Xander. Philip explains that Xander kicked him out of the house but he can’t kick him out of the company without compromising their DiMera takeover and tanking Titan’s market cap. Stephanie remarks that he gets to keep the treasure he plundered. Philip asks if this means she’s not going to say anything. Stephanie says she would love to tip off Chad and have it land on the front page of the Spectator but she’s not going to do that. Philip thanks her. Stephanie assures that she’s not doing it for him but for Sarah because the only thing that would hurt Xander more than Philip betraying him is knowing that Sarah kept the secret from him. Stephanie states that could destroy their marriage. Philip agrees that some things are better left unsaid. Stephanie goes to leave but Philip stops her and says there is something more to be said that he should’ve told her a long time ago. Philip tells her that he’s sorry.

Xander didn’t expect Alex to attack this head on right after they talked about it this morning. Alex felt there’s no point in waiting and says it stood out to him that DiMera had tried unsuccessfully to fund a treatment for Sepsis. Alex adds that Justin told him what’s going on with Bo. Xander says he feels for everyone who loves Bo. Alex says a lot of people they care about are hurting and a drug for Sepsis could prevent a lot of suffering. Xander encourages getting to work on this miracle. Alex notes that the one catch is someone could be beating them to the punch.

Steve doesn’t think Kayla should be talking about this in the open. Kayla isn’t worried and says there’s no way she doesn’t get implicated if he gets caught and she’s made peace with that. Steve doesn’t want her to jeopardize her entire career for some false hope when the drug isn’t even in human trials yet. Steve asks what if it can’t save Bo. Kayla knows there are a lot of risks but the upside is that it could save Bo’s life and then it would give hope to millions of people because it will be fast tracked. Steve states that they have to break in and steal the drug in a way that no one notices but wonder if that’s even possible. Kayla encourages him to just take one dose and then Jeffrey can chalk it up to human error so the plan is to get in and out without being detected. Kayla asks if he looked at the floor plan of the lab. Steve confirms that he did and it turns out there’s one major roadblock to their plan. Steve informs her that Dr. Russell goes in and out of the lab at all hours of the night and has no set schedule so he could pop in and catch him at any time. Sarah then walks in and asks if she’s interrupting.

EJ opens his mail hoping it’s from Johnny but it’s a get well card from Stefan, so he trashes it. Dr. Jeffrey Russell walks in and asks if it’s a bad time. EJ says no and reminds him that he asked to see him because they have a lot to discuss. Jeffrey questions if they do and reminds EJ that Kayla won’t even consider giving him the rights to his drug, so without that, he feels it’s game over for them but EJ disagrees. EJ repeats that all is not lost and tells Jeffrey that everything is going exactly as he planned.

Belle asks Shawn if there’s been a change in Bo’s condition. Shawn says there hasn’t been but he’s not losing faith. Belle says she won’t either and she knows that can be hard. Shawn knows she can relate. Belle says Paul and Andrew are confident they will find John but it’s hard to keep getting her hopes up. Shawn is sure they’re doing everything they can to bring John home safely. They agree to send each other prayers. Shawn calls it sad that both of their dads are fighting for their lives. Shawn talks about how John and Bo still considered themselves family. Belle says that’s kind of like them.

Stephanie questions what Philip is sorry for. Philip doesn’t know where to start and apologizes for lying about the letter, compromising her integrity at work and most of all for treating her like dirt afterwards. Philip feels he’s been treating her like an afterthought which is selfish and idiotic since she always had his back. Stephanie asks why he did it when there were legal ways that he could’ve tried to claim his part of the inheritance, so she questions why it was so important for him to deny Xander his.

Alex informs Xander that DiMera is not the only one working on a drug to cure Sepsis as word is the hospital is working on their own. Xander talks about the hospital’s financial struggles and says it may give them time to catch up to them. Alex wants to rally the board and get to work. Xander asks if Alex has plans tonight. Alex confirms that he does, so Xander tells him to take the night off and commends him for his fantastic work as they shake hands. Alex goes to leave but stops and tells Xander that he knows he let him down by covering for Philip, but promises that he will not regret giving him a second chance. Alex then exits.

Sarah apologizes but Kayla assures she has an open door policy. Sarah mentions hearing about Bo and wishes there was something she could do. Kayla thanks her and says they all feel the same way. Steve decides he should get going. Kayla says she’ll keep him posted as soon as she figures a way around her schedule as Steve then exits. Sarah suggests Kayla should call it a night and asks if she can take anything off her plate. Kayla thanks her but says she should keep busy although she isn’t looking forward to signing their new budget. Sarah offers to skip this weekend’s research conference in Chicago if it saves the hospital money. Sarah then admits her motivations aren’t pure but it’s the first weekend she’s had off in awhile and she’d love to be able to spend it with her husband and daughter. Sarah mentions having her eye on renting a cabin but guesses she can’t find someone to go to the conference in her place on such short notice.

Jeffrey tells EJ that the hospital retaining the rights to his drug Versivex doesn’t help them. EJ says not in the short term but they are playing chess not checkers. Jeffrey doesn’t understand. EJ explains that it’s all about thinking several steps ahead. EJ is not surprised that Kayla turned down his request and says he would’ve done the same. Jeffrey asks why he made him grovel to her though. EJ says it’s covering all their bases and he couldn’t risk Kayla catching wind of their plan. Jeffrey questions what plan since if the hospital goes under, his research is lost. EJ tells him that the hospital is not going under because it’s about to find itself a new bankroller and he’s looking at him.

Sarah tells Kayla that she better go pack but Kayla stops her and tells her to go spend the weekend with her family. Kayla says the conference is for research so they should send somebody with more lab experience anyway. Sarah asks if she can even find anybody in time. Kayla tells her to go ahead. Sarah hugs her and thanks her. Kayla assures the pleasure is all hers as Sarah then exits. Kayla then grabs her phone.

EJ informs Jeffrey that he’s going to buy University Hospital. Jeffrey questions how when he’s been ousted from his family business. Jeffrey asks why he didn’t just swoop in months ago when the hospital was first in trouble. EJ says he had to get his ducks in a row and then the shooting derailed his timeline, but now that he has everything in order, he’s ready to pull the trigger. EJ pours him a drink as Jeffrey questions if he’s really thought this through. Jeffrey warns EJ that the cost of funding the hospital will eventually bleed him dry. EJ says once his drug is approved, it will fund the hospital for decades and they will be heroes for curing a deadly illness. Jeffrey asks if his profit participation is just an added benefit. EJ says they have noble intentions and asks why good men shouldn’t be rewarded for their good deeds. Jeffrey then gets a text from Kayla, wanting to see him. He assumes she doesn’t know he and EJ are working together. EJ says there’s only one way to find out.

Philip tells Stephanie that he wasn’t trying to deny Xander his share of Titan and it was about doing something Victor couldn’t do. Philip talks about having to fake his death and Victor being ashamed while he never got a chance to redeem himself in Victor’s eyes before he died. Philip explains that he convinced himself if he did something Victor couldn’t do, it would make him proud in some way but feels saying it out loud sounds stupid. Stephanie disagrees and calls it the most human thing she’s heard him say since he came back to town. Philip says nothing else mattered to him and he was on a mission like a soldier. Philip can’t say he regrets doing what he did, but he does regret hurting the people he cares about because he’s pretty much lost every friend he had left. Stephanie says not everyone. Stephanie acknowledges that there are still a lot of hurt feelings between them but she has known him for most of her life and she’d like to think that one day, they can put all of this behind them and be friends again. Philip agrees that would be nice. Stephanie tells Philip to take care of himself and walks away.

Sarah goes home to Xander and says she has a surprise for him but questions what he’s reading that has him so enthralled that he didn’t hear her come in. Xander says he’s just trying to make heads or tails of the DiMera Pharmaceuticals division. Sarah comments on their careers overlapping and asks what it’s about. Xander asks what she knows about Sepsis. Sarah explains that in simple terms, it’s when an infection spreads so much that the immune system attacks it’s own body. Sarah says there are antibiotics but still a high morality rate. Xander asks if developing something would be a worthwhile pursuit. Sarah says tons of labs must be dedicated time for that. Xander asks if she knows about the hospital’s research. Sarah guesses this isn’t about Bo, so she asks what all these questions are about.

Steve meets Shawn at the Pub. Shawn asks if there’s any updates. Steve says he got some valuable insight from Kayla as he more or less told her what they are planning. Shawn worries that this is a big risk for Kayla. Steve says Kayla told him how much they can take without compromising the entire trial. Shawn feels it’s pretty simple to get in and get out. Shawn offers to go tonight if he wants but Steve tells him there’s a new complication.

Jeffrey goes to see Kayla in her office. Kayla says she didn’t like how they left things. Jeffrey asks if this means she’s changing her mind but Kayla says no. Kayla wants to throw another opportunity his way and asks if he’s busy this weekend. He says no outside of his research. Kayla tells him that he deserves a break and Chicago is beautiful this time of year. Kayla explains that they need someone from his department to represent them at a medical research conference and when he’s finished, he can enjoy the city. Jeffrey appreciates the offer but doesn’t think he’s the best person for the job as he’s not exactly known for his people skills and his staff can’t continue their research without him there to supervise. Kayla thinks it’s for the best because of the hours they’ve been working and says they all need the weekend off. Jeffrey remains unsure, so Kayla asks for one good reason why he wouldn’t do this.

Belle finds Philip in the town square and asks if he’s okay. Philip says he’s wiped from his apology tour but he’s sure he owes her one too. Belle guesses it’s about Titan and admits she was wondering when the other shoe would drop. Philip tells her that he gets to stay on as co-CEO because legal worries that it could compromise both companies if what he did got out. Philip adds that he took her advice in reaching out to Justin but he was pretty disappointed in him, almost as much as Maggie is. Philip admits he can’t blame her. Philip says he knows Victor would’ve wanted he and Xander to work together but says he took what he wanted without caring how it would affect anyone else. Philip tells Belle that the person he feels most guilty about hurting is Xander because for a second, it really started to feel like they were brothers in every sense of the word.

Xander tells Sarah that he’s trying to wrap his head around all this science and says it’s hard for him to make decisions about stuff he doesn’t fully understand. Sarah says luckily he employs people to do it for him and says she wants to get to her surprise. Sarah then shows him her phone and reveals that she booked them a cabin on the lake for the weekend and there’s a nearby day spa with a daycare for them to be alone. Xander thought she wanted to go somewhere tropical for their honeymoon. Sarah says she still expects that, so Xander asks what all this is. Sarah asks if there has to be a reason and says they’ve both been swamped so they can think of it as a mini honeymoon. Xander calls it incredibly sweet. Sarah says between everything with Titan and the hospital’s money troubles, they have both been run ragged. Sarah argues that Alex can watch Philip for a weekend but Xander is unsure. Sarah whispers to Xander what he would be missing.

Alex brings Stephanie to his bedroom with candles lit around the room, a bowl of popcorn, and bottles of wine. Alex figured with everything going on lately, it would be nice for them to stay in for a change and stream a movie. Stephanie calls that perfect as they kiss. Alex tells Stephanie they can even watch The Notebook but Stephanie says maybe they can go with something sexier. Alex asks if she means something like the novel she’s writing which surprises her.

Sarah has Xander relax to imagine what a spa day would be like but Xander says he’s never really been much of a spa guy and asks why this getaway is so important to her. Sarah says it’s just been one thing after another for them lately. Sarah talks about Xander being incredibly stressed by being forced to work with Philip and she’s wiped out from the hospital’s money troubles. Sarah wants one weekend without thinking about her job. Xander then agrees to the getaway. Xander tells Sarah that he loves her. Xander adds that he’s pretty sure they have the house to themselves tonight. Xander suggests giving her a taste of what they will be getting up to this weekend as they then exit together.

Stephanie questions Alex reading her manuscript. Alex confirms he read the first few pages. Stephanie says she’s so embarrassed because nobody was supposed to read it as it was just something she was doing in her spare time. Alex encourages that she’s so good at it and he can’t wait to finish it. Stephanie asks him not to. Alex acknowledges that it’s graphic and a little steamy but Stephanie feels it’s mortifying. Alex asks if she’s afraid that he will learn about her inner most fantasies and desires. Stephanie argues that he already knows most of them. Alex says if he’s not allowed to read it, maybe they can act out a couple chapters instead. Stephanie says she likes that idea as they kiss on the bed.

EJ joins Jeffrey in Kayla’s office and asks if it’s a bad time. Kayla asks Jeffrey to excuse them but notes that she won’t take no for an answer and asks if she can count on him. Jeffrey then agrees to be there and exits. EJ asks what that was about. Kayla says it was none of his business so EJ withdraws the question. Kayla asks if there’s something she can do for him. EJ responds that he’d like to do something more to help the hospital get out of it’s current predicament. Kayla says they are happy to take another donation but EJ declares that he wants to be the hospital’s savior.

Belle thinks Philip is mourning the loss of Xander because he’s afraid of losing his other brother too. Philip calls that an insightful theory. Philip adds that he knows he has no right to ask but he doesn’t want to cause more trouble for Xander if what he did ever got out. Belle assures that he’s covered. Philip says he appreciates that. Belle advises him to keep his nose clean and not get too comfortable since he may have dodged a bullet but he royally pissed off a lot of people so she suggests he watch his back as she walks away.

Shawn asks Steve how they will keep Jeffrey out of the lab. Steve says it will be tricky but he promised Kayla that they wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize the drug’s approval because they can’t take away the hope from millions to save one man which Bo wouldn’t want, so they have to be patient. Steve says that Kayla is working on a workaround as they speak. Shawn says she better hurry because Bo doesn’t have much time.

Kayla questions EJ wanting to buy University Hospital. EJ points out that they’ve been looking for a financial backer and here he is, calling it a perfect solution. Kayla says it might be too perfect and questions where this is coming from. EJ says that almost dying has a way of changing his outlook on life and it’s torn down his greed. EJ says he wants to use his fortune to put some good in to the world. EJ adds that with Kayla’s endorsement, the sale of the hospital will be approved in no time so he asks if she will help him help her. Kayla responds that it’s a hard pass which EJ questions. Kayla admits that EJ could solve all of the hospital’s problems and she would like to believe his intentions are pure but experience tells her they are not and there will definitely be strings attached. EJ calls this madness and asks if she hates his family so much that she would let the hospital collapse. Kayla is optimistic that they will succeed. EJ asks how since they will never find a backer in time. Kayla feels the fundraiser gave them some room to explore other options. EJ argues that she’s being unreasonable. Kayla warns that he’s getting on her last nerve and decides they are done. EJ argues that she doesn’t have final say on this and threatens to go over her head to the board. Kayla says she would recommend they not entertain his offer. Kayla points out that she’s spent decades building up good will in Salem while EJ can’t say the same. EJ remarks that she will come crawling back soon enough and warns her to pray that he’s just as generous when she does as he then exits the office.

Alex and Stephanie lay in bed together after having sex. As Stephanie falls asleep, Alex sneaks out of the bed to answer a call from Xander. Alex asks if he got any more word about the drug. Xander says DiMera will never catch up in time to the hospital but he has a new plan that will save the hospital, Sarah’s job, and get their hands on this breakthrough treatment. Alex asks what it is. Xander declares they are going to buy the hospital.

Holly sits in her room and texts Doug III to check on him, noting that he didn’t have to leave and asks how he is doing.

Doug III walks by the Brady Pub when he gets Holly’s text and then enters the Pub.

Shawn goes to the police station where Jada says she thought he went home for the night. Shawn says he wasn’t going to leave her alone to figure out who tried to rid the world of EJ. Shawn notes that Jada has Ava at the top of the list. Shawn says he hasn’t had any luck tracking Ava down, but they have plenty of other suspects right here in Salem.

At the Hernandez home, Rafe questions Leo’s suspect list. Leo claims it’s just notes for a story he’s working on. Rafe argues that it looks like a suspect list as to who shot EJ with both he and Gabi’s name on it.

Javi goes to see Gabi at the Gabi Chic office. Gabi questions the sales projections being filled with typos. Javi apologizes. Gabi demands he fix it now. Javi asks if she’s really this mad over spelling errors or if something else is bothering her.

Sophia lays in bed upset as Tate comes in to check on her. Sophia tells him that she feels like her life is pretty much over.

Gabi apologizes for snapping on Javi since she has a lot on her mind today. Javi understands that Titan taking over DiMera has her freaked out. Gabi responds that she’s worried about herself and her freedom, knowing that both her boyfriend and Javi’s boyfriend are trying to tie her to EJ’s shooting.

Rafe questions what Leo is up to. Leo says he’s just doing his job. Rafe asks what his job is. Leo informs him that he is now a journalist for the Spectator, trying to find out who shot EJ. Rafe warns Leo that he can feel free to investigate him, but to stay away from Gabi since she’s been to prison twice for crimes she did not commit, so he will not let her be railroaded a third time. Rafe adds that if he hears Leo has been going through Gabi’s belongings again, he will be in flight from their house and their lives.

Jada acknowledges that it’s pretty damning that even JJ considers Gabi a suspect. Shawn says he can only imagine how Gabi felt when she had Rafe replaced with Arnold. Jada remarks that she knows exactly how she felt. Jada then asks if there’s something Shawn wants to ask her.

Gabi tells Javi that she can’t believe he defended Leo after she caught him going through her purse. Javi says he’s sorry as he knows Leo can be a bit extra which Gabi mocks. Gabi tells Javi that Leo is trying to pin her to EJ’s shooting just so he can write about it in the Spectator. Javi urges her not to let Leo or JJ get to her, because they both know she did not shoot EJ. Gabi decides she needs a break and is going to get something to eat. Gabi instructs Javi to start turning the sales report in to a PowerPoint. Javi tells Gabi to take her time as she exits. Leo then arrives to bring Javi lunch.

Holly calls Doug III and leaves a message that she wanted to make sure he wasn’t sleeping on a park bench again and says to call her back.

Roman gives Doug III an application for the Brady Pub. Doug III looks it over but reveals he doesn’t have an address at the moment. Roman asks where he’s staying. Doug III informs him that he’s staying at the homeless shelter downtown and understands if that means Roman doesn’t want to hire him. Roman sits him down and says there’s nothing to be ashamed of as a lot of people are struggling to keep a roof over their head. Roman adds that the Brady Pub also has rooms for rent.

Tate tells Sophia that he’s sorry as he knows it has to be rough to find out she has to take it easy for the rest of her senior year. Sophia complains about the bed rest and says she’s just so frustrated as they were this close to the adoption. Sophia informs him that her mom told her that Johnny backed out was a sign from God. Sophia wants to make one decision about her own life. Tate encourages that maybe she can which Sophia questions. Tate brings up that Sophia will be 18 soon which means she will be a legal adult, so once she’s no longer a minor, her mom can’t stop her from doing anything including putting the baby up for adoption.

Shawn tells Jada that he doesn’t have anything to ask her but Jada thinks he does. Jada says to address the elephant in the room, guessing that Shawn wants to know if her name should be on the list of suspects. Jada acknowledges that he wouldn’t be doing his job if he didn’t ask her the tough questions. Jada instructs Shawn to go ahead and ask her if she shot EJ DiMera.

Doug III tells Roman that it’s generous of him but he can barely afford fries, much less rent. Roman compares him to his younger brothers Frankie and Max who were adopted in to the family. Doug III thanks him but feels he’s not worth the trouble. Roman sits him back down and states that Doug III doesn’t just need a job, but guidance as well. Roman says no matter how many mistakes he’s made or how much trouble he thinks he is, he’s been there. Roman encourages that he has all the time in the world to turn things around but it starts now. Roman tells Doug III that the job is his if he wants it and so is the room above the Pub. Doug III questions how to afford the rent. Roman says he will loan him the first month of rent and will take out of his paycheck until they are squared away. Doug III thanks him and says he won’t be sorry.

Sophia questions if Tate wants her to defy her mother and go against her wishes. Tate says only if putting the baby up for adoption is what she wants to do. Tate just wanted to point out there’s another option once she is legally an adult. Sophia understands what he’s saying but notes that she’s never defied her mother. Tate asks if that means she doesn’t want to do it. Sophia assures that she does. Sophia argues that they both have their whole lives ahead of them. Sophia says maybe she can’t go to prom or finish her senior year, but she wants to go to college and have her life. Sophia declares they can’t let one mistake take all of that away from them, so she’s going to do it. Sophia announces that for the first time in her life, she’s going to stand up to her mother.

Javi questions what Leo is doing at the office when he just missed Gabi. Leo says the last thing he needs is another run in with his cousins. Javi worries that Leo is not welcome here and asks if something happened with Rafe. Leo admits that Rafe found his list of suspects and went off on him about it. Leo argues that the truth is that Rafe and Gabi both had strong motives to want EJ dead, so he’s just doing his job. Gabi then comes back and questions what the hell Leo is doing in her office. Leo says he was just bringing them food. Gabi questions him being a delivery guy now. Javi asks her to be nice but Gabi calls Leo a sleazebag. Gabi says she already caught Leo going through her purse and accuses him of using Javi to get access to her office. Gabi wants Leo out now. Javi wants them all to chill. Gabi wants Leo out and then takes his bag of food as she storms out. Javi complains to Leo that working for Gabi is becoming a nightmare. Leo encourages him to quit but Javi feels he can’t leave Gabi like that after she was kind enough to give him a job and take him in. Leo understands his heart is so big but sometimes worries that it’s too big and if he continues to work for Gabi, it could ruin his relationship with her forever.

Shawn admits to Jada that on the night of the shooting, he was troubled when he found her at the bar without her gun but his heart tells him that she didn’t do it because he doesn’t think she’s capable of doing such a thing. Jada says that’s where he’s wrong. Jada responds that after what EJ did to her, she was more than capable of killing EJ DiMera. Shawn questions what she’s trying to tell him. Jada admits that she was furious that night and she went to Small Bar to drown her sorrows. Jada says she had all this rage and pain, so she just wanted to feel nothing for awhile. Shawn questions if she took her service weapon out that night. Jada confirms that she locked it in her drawer like she told him as she didn’t trust having it out that night. Jada admits she wanted EJ dead, but she is not the one who put the bullet in his chest.

Rafe gets a call from Shawn and asks what he wants. Shawn says he’s with Jada. Rafe says that’s no surprise but Shawn says it’s not like that. Shawn says they were wondering when Rafe planned to return his service weapon. Rafe mocks that the weapon was issued to Arnold Feniger. Rafe says he’ll get the weapon back when he can but he’s been a little busy being processed back in at the FBI. Shawn thanks him and hangs up.

Tate calls Holly, who asks what’s going on. Tate wondered if they could talk as he just got some really great news. Tate asks her to meet at the Pub in half an hour which she agrees to. Tate says he’ll see her soon and hangs up as Sophia returns to her room. Tate asks if Sophia isn’t having second thoughts. Sophia assures that adoption is what’s right for them and their baby. Tate thanks her and agrees. Tate says he should get going. Sophia questions where he’s going and then guesses he’s excited to tell Holly about the adoption. Tate asks if that bothers her. Sophia says not at all and tells him to go ahead and give Holly her best. Tate says he’ll see her later and exits.

Jada thanks Shawn for calling Rafe and taking the heat for her as she was not looking forward to that conversation. Leo arrives and jokes about walking in to the station without being in handcuffs. Shawn asks what he wants. Leo says he’s come for a comment as his readers have a right to know when the police will stop searching for Ava and finally arrest the actual perp who shot EJ in cold blood. Leo declares by his estimation, it’s either Rafe, Gabi, or Jada.

Gabi goes home and tells Rafe that he won’t believe the day she had. Gabi complains that first, Philip and Xander demand she produce sales projections for Gabi Chic and then she finds Leo in her office with Javi. Gabi questions if Rafe is listening to her. Rafe responds that he needs to ask her a question so she tells him to go ahead. Rafe then questions if Gabi borrowed his gun to shoot EJ.

Holly meets Tate at the Pub and asks what he wanted to tell her. Tate says he actually wanted to talk to her about the adoption. Holly thought there wouldn’t be an adoption since Johnny changed his mind. Tate confirms that Johnny did but he and Sophia have not changed their minds and have decided to place the baby up for an adoption agency. Holly questions her mom being okay with that. Tate says no but she doesn’t have to be since Sophia will be 18. Tate declares that they’ve decided this is best for everyone. Holly says that’s definitely news. Tate admits he’s nervous and knows she’s upset with him for ratting out Doug III to Julie. Tate asks Holly if she thinks there’s still a chance for them. Roman comes over and greets them. Roman asks to borrow Tate to help him fix the dishwasher. Tate tells Holly that he’ll just be a minute and heads to the back with Roman. Doug III then comes down and finds Holly.

Jada questions Leo saying she’s a suspect. Leo goes over Jada having motive, a gun, and if she’s capable of going through with it. Shawn wants to take Leo out but Jada says to let him go. Jada tells Leo that she’s losing her patience and that the Salem police department has no comment for his story. Jada tells Leo to go. Leo warns that he is persistent and they have not seen the last of him.

Gabi questions Rafe as to how many more times she’s going to be accused of attempted murder this week and says she’s losing her mind. Rafe explains that he knows she took his service weapon that night because he was looking for it and it was gone while so was she. Rafe adds that he knows she took it because the gun was magically returned. Rafe acknowledges that there were no bullets missing but she could’ve replaced them. Rafe asks Gabi to just be honest with him and asks if she went to the DiMera Mansion that night with his gun.

Leo returns to Javi with another bag of food. Leo hopes Javi is going to quit this miserable job. Javi admits that he made a compelling argument and he’s not exactly passionate about being a fashion assistant. Leo asks what he is passionate about. Javi says before he left Texas, he thought he found a career. Leo wants to hear more. Javi says maybe after they eat. Leo says he was saving dessert until they get home. Javi asks who says they have to wait and clears off the desk.

Gabi admits to Rafe that she went to confront EJ on the night he was shot and she took Rafe’s gun because she was so frustrated with EJ getting away with messing with people’s lives and she couldn’t take it anymore. Gabi explains that as she was approaching the doors, she overheard EJ arguing with someone so she took a step back as she was afraid someone would see her. Gabi admits she doesn’t know who was arguing but it was definitely a male voice. Rafe asks if she heard a gunshot. Gabi says no as she decided to get out of there before someone caught her. Rafe asks if she’s saying she did not shoot EJ. Gabi says absolutely not and hopes Rafe believes her. Rafe confirms that he does which Gabi is thankful for. Rafe just wishes Gabi had told him all of this sooner. Gabi then adds that there was something else. Gabi reveals that when she was leaving the property, she saw Ava at the door. Gabi notes that Ava didn’t see her but she thinks she heard her because Ava ran to her car and sped off. Rafe points out that means Ava couldn’t have been the shooter either. Gabi supposes she could’ve gone back or it could’ve been the guy she heard arguing with EJ. Rafe responds that he’s just glad they are in the clear.

Jada complains to Shawn about solving the case getting more complicated as now they have to deal with Leo. Shawn offers to talk to Chad about Leo but Jada doesn’t want it to look like they are hiding anything since the police are supposed to be transparent which Shawn agrees with. Shawn apologizes to Jada for doubting her for even a second as he knows she would never take the law in to her own hands as she’s too good of a person. Jada says the same goes for him.

Roman returns to Holly and Doug III, informing Holly that Doug III will be living in a room above the Pub and working at the Pub waiting tables. Roman tells Doug III that he will see him in the morning. Holly is excited for Doug III, who swears that Roman is the nicest guy on Earth. Doug III is excited to start paying off his debts. Holly wishes he told her before leaving the Kiriakis Mansion. Doug III says he didn’t want to be any more trouble. Holly assures that being his friend is not trouble. Holly tells Doug III how happy she is to see him and hugs him right as Tate comes back. Tate says he’s sorry to interrupt. Holly tries to explain but Tate says he should get back to Sophia since she was pretty bummed that he was coming to see Holly. Tate tells them to have fun and storms out while Holly chases after him but loses him. Doug III follows Holly out and says he’s sorry about his bad timing. Holly says she’s not going to let that spoil her mood when things are finally starting to look up for Doug III. Someone in all black hides around the corner filming them with a camera.

Johnny returns to his room at the Salem Inn and puts down the things from his pocket including Xander’s business card from Titan. Marlena shows up at his door and says she wanted to check on him after hearing about Tate punching him. Marlena explains that Tate told her while they were at the hospital with a baby issue. Johnny questions if everything is okay. Marlena informs him that they just want to put Sophia on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy as a precaution. Marlena assures it will be fine. Marlena asks how Johnny is otherwise. Johnny responds that things couldn’t be worse.

EJ sits in the living room of the DiMera Mansion, thinking back to Johnny pulling his gun on him. Chanel then storms in and asks what the hell is the matter with him, just when she thought he couldn’t hurt them any more than he had. EJ recalls last time she chewed him out was over the adoption falling through. Chanel tells EJ that the adoption is off again and once again it’s because of EJ.

Chad meets Cat in the town square and says it’s about the date that EJ won with her in the auction. Cat remembers Chat saying that’s not happening which he repeats. Cat laughs it off as being for charity, pointing out that EJ made a generous donation and it will just be a dinner. Chad warns that she doesn’t know EJ like he does, so it won’t just be a date for him and there will be an ulterior motive.

Steve meets with Shawn at the Brady Pub and shows him everything he could pull up on Dr. Russell’s lab. Shawn talks about how they will need a lot more. Steve says he would normally spend weeks but they don’t have that kind of time because without a miracle, it won’t be long before Sepsis runs it’s course on Bo. Steve declares that to save Bo, they have to be that miracle. Shawn asks what to do. Steve wants to bring Kayla in on this since she would have hospital intel and he doesn’t think they have much choice.

Dr. Jeffrey Russell goes to Kayla’s office at the hospital and says their conversation ended rather abruptly so he wanted to revisit it. Kayla asks if this means he’s changed his mind about giving Bo access to his drug. He says that’s not why he came and that his position remains the same that he can’t allow her to use it on Bo. Kayla understands but wants to present another argument that occurred to her after their initial discussion. Kayla argues that if his drug works on Bo, it could help him and put him on a fast track. He asks what happens if it didn’t and calls it too risky. Kayla asks what he wants then if he hadn’t changed his mind. He hoped that she had given further thought to releasing him from his hospital contract. Kayla tells him that is not happening. He questions if she’s denying his request out of spite because he won’t help her brother. Kayla says of course not and she resents his accusation. Kayla argues that they know what his drug could do and she won’t let that future potential slip through her fingers, so she needs to do what is best for the hospital. He complains that she’s forcing him to stay. Kayla says he’s free to walk away but per his contract, his research belongs to the hospital. Jeffrey gets upset and says she’s willing to break the rules when it comes to her, but to hell with everyone else. Jeffrey says screw that and declares that they have nothing left to say to each other as he storms out.

Shawn asks if Steve is sure that Kayla won’t try to stop them. Steve says it’s a tough call but he knows Kayla would do anything to save Bo, so he thinks it’s a risk they have to take as he doesn’t see another way around it. Steve decides he will go talk to Kayla. Shawn tells Steve that no matter what Kayla says, he’s not backing down and will get that drug for Bo one way or another. Steve says he knows as he exits the Pub.

Johnny guesses Tate also told Marlena why he punched him. Marlena confirms that Tate told her that he backed out of the adoption. Johnny tells her that he took her advice and told Chanel that he wasn’t ready to be a father and that’s why he’s now in the Salem Inn. Marlena says she’s sorry. Johnny talks about how hurt and disappointed Chanel was as he ruined her dreams of starting a family. Marlena encourages that Chanel will come around and see that he did what he had to do. Marlena agrees the adopting a child with all these unresolved feelings wouldn’t work for Johnny, Chanel, or the baby. Johnny asks if she thinks he did the right thing. Marlena thinks once he sorts things out, he will find himself very ready to have a family. Johnny asks what if he never is since he feels so lost now and worries about losing Chanel forever.

EJ tells Chanel that he doesn’t understand since Belle was just there and didn’t mention the adoption falling through again. Chanel says she probably didn’t want to upset him in his delicate state. EJ asks what happened since Amy agreed to let them adopt the baby as long as he wasn’t involved in their life. Chanel says it was a done deal until Johnny decided he wasn’t ready to be a parent because of EJ’s disgusting past. Chanel explains that after learning what EJ did, Johnny doesn’t even know who he is anymore and neither does she. EJ says he’s so sorry and asks how he can fix this. Chanel tells him there’s no way for him to fix this because the damage is already done. Chanel says Johnny is not the same anymore and never will be, because he somehow thinks he’s inherited EJ’s DNA and incapable of ever being a decent human being. Chanel declares that EJ stole the joy and light from Johnny, so she will never stop hating him for it. Chanel goes to storm out right as Marlena arrives. Marlena says she didn’t expect to see her. Chanel says she had a few things to tell EJ. Marlena tells her that she’s sorry that the adoption didn’t work out. Chanel questions if she is since Johnny told her that Marlena told him to follow his heart, which apparently made blowing up their chances to start a family. Marlena knows she’s upset and thinks Johnny could’ve handled this a lot better, but he’s in so much pain right now. Chanel says she knows but she wishes he would’ve talked to her when he first started feeling how he did. Marlena assures that Johnny is heartbroken about hurting her, but she also knows how much he loves her. Chanel cries that she loves him too, but she’s already lost one baby and now she’s lost another.

Cat asks Chad what EJ’s ulterior motive would be. Chad says he hasn’t figured it out yet but he knows EJ and he always has some type of angle. Cat calls this a difference from Chad being the concerned brother when EJ was shot a few weeks ago. Chad says he loves his brother but there’s just something off about this. Cat agrees that it is a little strange since they don’t really know each other. Cat wonders why the first thought in EJ’s brain after coming out of a coma was bidding on a date with her of all people. Chad says that’s all good questions and asks Cat not to agree to anything until he can talk to EJ to get to the bottom of it.

EJ looks tearfully at a photo of he and Johnny until Marlena walks in. EJ mentions Chanel giving him the upsetting news about Johnny and the adoption. Marlena mentions seeing her on the way in. EJ says Chanel really laid in to him for taking away Johnny’s joy and light. EJ wishes he could do something to help him. Marlena suggests giving him space. EJ says he’s never seen Johnny with so much anger and hate towards him. EJ says he just wants Johnny to know that he loves him and he’s proud of him as he never felt so much pain than knowing his son doesn’t want him in his life anymore. Marlena asks if EJ is afraid that Johnny was the one who shot him.

Johnny goes to the Brady Pub and asks Shawn if he’s seen Roman. Shawn thinks he’s out running errands with Kate. Johnny says that Roman left him a message that he had news about the family that sounded kind of serious and asks if Shawn knows what he’s talking about. Shawn informs Johnny that Bo has developed an infection that led to Sepsis which is serious and if they don’t find a way to treat him, they could lose him. Johnny asks if they are working on a treatment. Shawn says they don’t have one yet but they aren’t giving up hope as they still have a couple options to pursue.

Steve joins Kayla in her office and tells her that Shawn is not good as he was really counting on Jeffrey giving them permission to use his drug. Kayla tells him that Jeffrey just came by but he hasn’t changed his mind and wants out of his contract with the hospital, but she told him no. Steve asks her for the records of the drug he’s developing as he’d like to learn more about it. Kayla questions what he is up to. Steve claims he’s not up to anything and just wants to learn more about the drug that could possibly save Bo’s life. Kayla asks what he will do with that information. Steve claims that he just craves knowledge. Kayla tells him to stop the act and tell her what’s going on. Steve admits he was going to be honest with her but he was trying to protect her. Kayla asks him not to. Steve doesn’t want to do anything to jeopardize her job or medical license, but he needs her help in this life or death situation they are dealing with. Kayla asks what he wants her to do. Steve asks Kayla to take a walk while he catches up on some light reading.

Johnny tells Shawn that he’s really sorry to hear about his dad. Shawn mentions hearing Johnny went through something similar with his dad. Johnny says things looked bleak but EJ made it, so Bo will too. Shawn says he got the impression that EJ was doing well. Johnny says he got the same after running in to him. Shawn asks how that went since things have been strained between them. Johnny tells Shawn that he wants nothing to do with EJ as what he did to Sami really messed with his head. Johnny says that’s why he’s decided not to go through with adopting Tate and Sophia’s baby, which he now worries may have cost him his marriage.

Cat runs in to Chanel in the town square and mentions wanting cinnamon rolls from the Bakery. Cat asks if everything is okay. Chanel says not really as she just paid EJ a visit. Cat brings up that EJ bid on her in the bachelorette auction so she’s supposed to go on a date with him. Chanel stops her and tells Cat that she wants nothing to do with EJ and to stay far away from him.

EJ tells Marlena that he may not remember the moments leading up to his shooting, but he’s certain that Johnny is not responsible as he’s not capable of shooting someone. Marlena asks what he’s worried about then. EJ is afraid that Johnny is going to let his anger towards him take over him and he’s going to spin out of control until he loses everything. EJ says he knows what that’s like and he does not want that for his son. EJ asks Marlena to let Johnny know that he wants to protect him and that he will always be there for him no matter what he feels. Marlena tells EJ that no matter how old their children are, they always feel a need to protect them and that’s why she’s here today because she wants to talk to him about his relationship with Belle. Chad walks in and asks if he’s interrupting. Marlena says he’s not and that she has to get back to the hospital. Marlena tells EJ they will pick this up again. Marlena tells Chad it’s nice to see him as she exits. Chad tells EJ that it’s good to see him out of the hospital and hugs him. EJ invites him to join him for some tea but Chad declines. Chad then questions EJ as to why he’s going on a date with Cat Green.

Kayla asks Steve if he’s sure this is a good idea. Steve doesn’t think they have much choice since Bo isn’t doing any better. Kayla admits he’s deteriorating fast. Steve says they are all feeling helpless, so they have to change that. Kayla tells Steve that she’s sorry as she has to cut their visit short since she has a staff meeting in 15 minutes and is taking her assistant to take notes. Steve says he’s going to grab something to eat at the cafeteria and asks if she wants anything. Kayla requests just an apple and thanks Steve for loving her brother. Steve responds that he’d do anything for Bo and for her too as he exits.

Johnny tells Shawn that he and Chanel ended up having a huge fight and she threw him out of the house. Johnny hoped things would be better today but when he saw her in the town square, she just looked at him and walked away. Shawn encourages him to just give her time, but feels he had a really good reason for walking away from the adoption. Johnny wonders if he was just being selfish. Shawn acknowledges that being a parent is difficult but also fulfilling. Shawn says he’s no expert but he knows you have to be fully committed and you have to believe in yourself and it seems like Johnny understandably doesn’t have either of those right now. Johnny says he still hates hurting Chanel so badly. Shawn says knowing people you love are suffering because of your actions is the worst feeling and sort of what he’s feeling with Bo right now, knowing he may die because he made a bad call. Johnny tells Shawn that what happened was not his fault since he was protecting his mom. Shawn thanks him for trying to let him of the hook, but he can’t justify what he did and now knowing that Bo may die, the guilt of shooting his father is overwhelming.

Cat guesses Chanel is not a fan of EJ. Chanel tells Cat that EJ is a monster who destroys everything he touches including his son. Chanel explains that Johnny was so messed up by EJ that he called off their plans to adopt a baby. Cat is surprised to learn it was Johnny’s decision. Chanel calls it so awful as they worked so hard to make it happen and then he ruined everything. Chanel admits that Johnny had valid reasons but wishes they could’ve talked about it more. Cat encourages that there’s still time but Chanel asks what the point is since Johnny is not changing his mind about the adoption. Cat says maybe not, but maybe it’s possible for them to at least be able to find a better understanding of the other’s point of view. Cat knows it’s none of her business, but they have both been wonderful to her sister Felicity, so she hopes they can work it out.

EJ tells Chad that it’s not a real date so he can drop the attitude. EJ explains that he heard Kayla talking about the auction and wanted to help out the hospital after the doctors did just save his life. Chad questions why he doesn’t just make a donation then. EJ says he thought this would be more fun which has been lacking in his life lately. Chad asks why Cat when there were a lot of bachelorettes. EJ explains that they got along well enough when she lived in the mansion. EJ stops and asks if Chad’s still mad about Cat pretending to be Abigail but Chad says it’s not that and that they are friends now, so EJ asks what the problem is. Chad feels like EJ is up to something and he doesn’t want Cat to get mixed up in it. Chad offers to buy EJ out of his bid. EJ asks if Chad wants to go on a date with Cat then. Chad says he just doesn’t want EJ to go on a date with her. EJ then asks if Chad is jealous and if he has feelings for Cat. Chad asks if EJ does. EJ says not in the slightest since he is seeing Belle which Chad questions. EJ tells him that Belle finally gave in to the fact that she loves him and all it took was for him to get shot and put in a coma. EJ acknowledges that Belle wishes she didn’t have feelings for him since it would make her life less complicated but the point is, he does not have feelings for Cat and asks if Chad does. Chad questions how he could have feelings for Cat after she put he and his family through Hell. EJ reminds him that she only did that because Clyde forced her to and notes that it sounds like Chad’s already forgiven her, pointing out that he did just say they are friends. Chad argues that friends is one thing while dating is entirely different. Chad asks what Abigail’s family would say. EJ asks who cares what anyone thinks and tells Chad that he can’t let other people’s opinions affect him finding the happiness he deserves.

Cat goes to the hospital and finds Marlena. Cat asks if there’s any news about John but Marlena says not yet. Marlena congratulates Cat on the hospital fundraiser being a success. Cat thanks her but says she wouldn’t have pursued it if Marlena didn’t encourage her. Marlena says they raised enough money to keep the hospital open for a few more months. Cat says they got a lot of generous donations but one put her in an awkward position that has to do with EJ DiMera.

Shawn is on the phone with Hope, encouraging her that Bo is a fighter and won’t give up. Shawn guesses all they can do is pray for a miracle and with any luck, they might just get one. Shawn hangs up as Dr. Jeffrey Russell enters the Pub.

Johnny returns to his room and finishes a call with Roman, telling him to keep him posted on Bo. Johnny hangs up and Chanel shows up at his door, surprising him. Chanel says she’s still furious with him for dropping a bombshell on her at the last minute and that he torpedoed their adoption, but she can appreciate where he was coming from. Chanel understands Johnny’s world was turned upside down by finding out about EJ and Sami. Chanel states that she was ready to become a parent but understands why Johnny was not. Johnny says he wasn’t expecting this and thanks her for understanding where he was coming from. Johnny asks if this means she’s ready to forgive him.

Cat tells Marlena about EJ winning the bid to go out with her. Marlena asks if they even know each other. Cat says barely and that she and Chad can’t figure out why EJ did it. Marlena suggests maybe EJ is interested in her. Cat doubts it and says that she and Chad are convinced EJ has an ulterior motive which Marlena says she wouldn’t put past him.

Chad appreciates EJ wanting him to be happy, but says happy with Cat is too complicated. EJ argues that he’s making it complicated by being mired in the past. EJ offers to gift Chad his date with Cat. Chad argues that EJ spent a lot of money on it. EJ says he can afford it and would like to do this for Chad. Chad questions his sudden generosity. EJ tells him that after his coma, he’s a kinder and gentler version of himself. Chad says he’s happy to hear that and thanks him for the offer, but says he can’t accept it because he doesn’t want to give Cat the wrong impression. EJ questions if it is the wrong impression. EJ calls it the perfect setup for Chad and Cat to go out, have fun, with no pressure or expectations since it’s for charity. EJ adds that if they fall in love, that’s all the better.

Chanel tells Johnny that she’s sorry but she’s not ready to forgive him because he really hurt her and she needs more time and space before she’s ready for him to come home. Johnny asks if there’s still hope for them. Johnny swears that he’s willing to put in the work and brings up Paulina telling him to fight for their marriage which he intends to do. Chanel notes that Paulina told her the same. Chanel thinks half of Salem are rooting for them. Johnny says they know that they have something special. Johnny knows he screwed things up and hurt her, but swears to do whatever it takes to make it right.

Steve returns to Kayla’s office and leaves the apple he promised her while taking a look at the research that Kayla left for him, allowing Steve to find the building security codes.

Shawn watches Jeffrey exit the Pub. Jeffrey then gets a call and says it’s about time they got back with him and says the hospital is refusing to let him out of his contract, so their plans for the drug have gone up in smoke. The call is revealed to be from EJ, who tells him not to worry as all hope is not lost.

Brady goes to the DiMera Mansion to pick up Rachel for therapy but Kristen tells him that she doesn’t think Rachel needs those appointments anymore. Brady argues that they agreed that she did, especially after teaming up with Kristen’s mother to kidnap Ava. Kristen complains that it’s not working, insisting that the answer for their daughter is not talking to a stranger but finding her grandmother.

Sophia runs in to her mom in the town square. Amy tells her that her lawyer still has not received the signed adoption papers from Belle, arguing that they need to make sure their legal documents are in order. Amy asks if she knows when the papers will be delivered. Sophia tells her never.

At home, Belle asks Marlena if there’s any news about John. Marlena says not yet but Paul thinks they are close to tracking him down. Belle calls that great news and says she’s putting all of her positive energy out there for him. Marlena notes that he’s not the only one as she brings up Johnny having a very hard time with the decision he made to stop the adoption. Belle talks about Johnny agonizing over the decision but he said he’s not ready to be a father. Marlena notes that she encouraged him to tell Chanel, which he did, and now he’s afraid that he’s broken her heart. Belle reveals that Chanel kicked Johnny out, so he’s staying at the Salem Inn. Marlena complains that they love each other so much, so she wishes they could work this out and that Johnny could resolve his feelings about his dad, and then maybe they could have the family they desperately deserve.

Johnny is woken up by pounding on his door at the Salem Inn. He sits up in hopes that it’s Chanel.

Sarah joins Xander in the living room of the Kiriakis Mansion. Xander tells Sarah that he will remain working at home because he just got word from Wei Shin that legal can’t get rid of Philip without jeopardizing the takeover of DiMera. Xander complains that Philip is getting away with murder..

EJ sits in the living room of the DiMera Mansion and rewatches the footage from Rafe’s camera, revealing Johnny entering the room and pointing his gun at EJ. EJ then thinks back to the last argument he had with Johnny before then, where Johnny told EJ that he was dead to him.

Sarah massages Xander while he jokes that the perks of working at home are fantastic. Sarah encourages that Xander won’t have to work with Philip forever. Xander says he can’t force him out, so Sarah suggests he ease him out and make him see that he’ll be happier elsewhere. Xander complains that he doesn’t want Philip to be happy and that he wants him to suffer after everything he did to him.

Brady tells Kristen that they can talk about Rachel’s therapy later, but he doesn’t want her to miss her appointment and he has a lot of e-mails to catch up on. Kristen brings up how crazy it must be at Titan and DiMera. Kristen asks Brady to put in a good word for her with Philip and Xander for employment as she’d be happy with another position. Brady brings up that Gabi wanted him to convince Philip and Xander to get her the rights back to Gabi Chic too. Brady says he has too much going on with his family so he’s just going to stay at Basic Black. Brady adds that he doesn’t think he and Kristen working together is a good idea. Brady asks Kristen to go get Rachel, so she heads back inside.

Marlena tells Belle that she’s so grateful that EJ survived and now maybe he and Johnny will have a chance to work things out. Belle asks if she thinks they will. Marlena admits it’s hard to say since things are pretty tense and everybody is distraught about the shooting. Belle says the one good thing to come out of it is that EJ seems to have made a change for the better, so she just hopes it lasts. Marlena asks if she means for Johnny or for herself?

EJ thinks back to when Belle wore a wire. His assistant Rita then emerges from the DiMera tunnels and says she should’ve known EJ wouldn’t stay in bed. EJ thanks her for covering. Rita hopes to take him back to his room. EJ appreciates her concern and starts to tell her what he needed but Kristen comes in and interrupts. Kristen comments on Rita playing nurse to EJ and says she’s loyal to all of Stefano’s kids until it comes to stabbing them in the back, except for EJ.

Amy questions Sophia saying the adoption papers are never going to be delivered. Sophia explains that Johnny hasn’t signed because he decided he didn’t want to go through with the adoption anymore and called the whole thing off last night. Amy is shocked and asks why she didn’t tell her. Sophia cries that she wanted to but she didn’t know how as they hug.

Johnny answers his door to see Tate, who punches him in the face.

Sarah reminds Xander that he went down the path of revenge with Brady and it almost ended very badly. Xander argues that the difference is that Brady was innocent while he knows Philip is guilty as hell. Sarah argues that Philip deceived him but it’s not like he put him in a wheelchair. Sarah encourages Xander to have perspective and look at everything he has. Xander thought Philip was a true brother to him, so he could put up with all of his annoying habits, but now the sight of Philip makes him want to kill him.

Belle tells Marlena that she’s glad EJ is okay for Johnny’s sake. Marlena then informs Belle that she spoke to Sami. Belle guesses Sami told her that she heard her tell EJ that she loves him. Marlena asks if she does love EJ. Belle points out that EJ was comatose at the time. Marlena calls that deflecting. Belle tries to argue but admits maybe she does need therapy. Belle talks about not knowing how to feel when Brady told her that EJ was shot. Belle acknowledges that EJ has hurt so many people that she cares about, so she should’ve been glad that his karma was finally coming around but instead, she was scared, worried, and just wanted to go to him, so she did. Belle talks about sitting by his bed, holding his hand, and talking to him. Belle decides Marlena doesn’t want to hear this but Marlena insists that she really does. Belle talks about EJ wondering why she was there, so she admitted to herself that she loves him because her feelings were so intense and she just wanted EJ’s arms around her. Belle guesses she does love EJ and it wasn’t until she thought she could lose him that she realized she couldn’t be without him. Marlena asks if Belle has told EJ how she feels now that he’s awake. Belle explains that she hadn’t intended to, but Susan Banks outed her. Marlena asks how EJ reacted. Belle says that EJ said her family would give her a lot of heat, but that he was happy and excited to see where things would lead. Marlena tells Belle that she’s so proud of her and brings up telling Belle that she could not move forward without resolving what happened in the past. Belle calls this kind of the opposite of moving forward. Marlena states that she’s being honest. Belle asks what she’s supposed to do with all these feelings now. Marlena declares that when it comes to love, she can solicit all the advice in the world but it won’t make any difference because she’s going to do exactly what she wants and she will support whatever that is. Marlena says she will support if she decides it’s EJ because she wants whatever Belle wants.

Rita tells Kristen that she simply came by to check on EJ after his injury. Kristen questions why she didn’t just come through the front door then. EJ tells Kristen to find someone else to bully since Rita did nothing to her. EJ says he has to go take his pain meds and tells Rita not to let Kristen chase her off as he will be right back as he steps out. Kristen guesses Rita is no longer working at DiMera with the Titan takeover, but realizes she’s mistaken. Kristen thought Philip and Xander didn’t want anyone loyal to DiMera, but guesses it’s smart to keep someone who knows where the bodies are buried. Kristen brings up Rita helping EJ get rid of Arnold. Rita says she will never tell. Kristen then asks if Rita helped EJ get rid of her mother too.

Tate tells Johnny that punching him is the least he deserves. Johnny tells him to hit him again then. Tate complains that Johnny strung he and Sophia along for months, as well as Chanel and questions how he could pretend that he wanted this. Johnny argues that he wasn’t pretending. Tate points out that he doesn’t want to adopt their baby. Tate gets that Johnny is rich, entitled, and used to doing whatever he wants but this isn’t like returning a pair of sneakers. Tate complains that Johnny is screwing with people’s lives. Tate argues that people tell him to be responsible for his actions but Johnny is an adult. Tate tells Johnny to grow the hell up.

Amy tells Sophia that if the adoption fell through, it wasn’t meant to be. Sophia argues that they can find someone else but Amy is not comfortable giving her baby to strangers. Sophia says they can get to know them. Sophia talks about things falling apart when she wants to go to college and to have a career. Sophia pleads with Amy to let them find another family to adopt the baby.

Sarah knows Xander is angry but suggests he think of something more positive instead of focusing on the negative feelings. Sarah brings up their daughter and suggests Xander spend his millions on her instead of attorneys. Xander talks about buying her a pony. Sarah is for it if it gets his mind off of Philip. Xander agrees to discuss it over a late lunch but Sarah has to get to work, so she asks him to walk her to the hospital.

At the hospital, Marlena approaches Brady and asks about Rachel’s therapy. Brady says he thinks it’s going as well as could be expected but Kristen thinks Rachel should be making more progress by now. Marlena says it’s time and suggests they could talk to the therapist together. Marlena brings up Brady having a lot on his plate. Brady feels it’s nothing compared to what Marlena is going through with John. Brady is sorry that he hasn’t been able to help. Marlena knows he would drop everything to find him, but they have to trust that the ISA will do the best they can. Marlena says they have jobs here and she has to be there for her patients, friends, and family. Brady says that’s easier said than done. Marlena knows they want to control everything but it doesn’t work like that, so they just have to handle things as they come. Marlena encourages that Brady is doing a great job.

Johnny tells Tate that he’s right and he understands he blindsided them and caused a lot of pain. Johnny explains that he didn’t know the truth about his father when they agreed to adopt and that’s changed everything for him. Johnny worries that the part of EJ that thought it was okay to do that to Sami could also be in him. Johnny questions how he could be a parent when he knows that. Tate responds that whatever is in EJ has been in Johnny his whole life and he was still his awesome older cousin. Tate encourages that Johnny is not his father and never will be. Johnny thanks him and repeats that he really is truly sorry. Johnny asks if there’s anything he can do to help. Tate says other than adopting their kid, there really is nothing he can do.

Amy sits Sophia down and reminds her that she’s always been against giving the baby away and only agreed to Johnny and Chanel since they are part of Tate’s family and she knew they were good people. Sophia points out that it fell apart which Amy takes as a sign.

Rita tells Kristen that it’s a terrible accusation as she would never get rid of her mother. Kristen argues that Rita must have people who would do it for her and asks her to have some compassion since her mother is an old woman who has had a tough life. EJ returns and asks what he missed. Kristen guesses he’ll never know as she exits. EJ apologizes to Rita as he thought Kristen would be out, but he appreciates Rita tolerating her. Rita tells EJ that JR is very anxious to hear from him. EJ says he has more pressing matters to attend to. EJ needs Rita to find somewhere to hide Rafe’s camera’s memory card where no one will ever find it. Rita assures that EJ can count on her as always.

Amy tells Sophia that she believes God wants her to keep her baby and for them to raise it as part of their family. Sophia can’t believe this. Amy encourages her to have faith in this being right. Sophia complains about having to give up her dreams. Amy encourages that God will have another plan for her. Sophia doesn’t want another plan. Sophia then starts to feel sick. Amy calls for help as Sarah and Xander walk by. Amy tells Sarah that Sophia almost fainted. Sarah says they will get her to the hospital. Sophia asks for someone to call Tate.

Tate leaves Johnny’s room and calls Holly, leaving a voicemail that he’s sorry for not calling her back yesterday but there’s been a lot going on since the adoption fell through again thanks to Johnny backing out. Tate hopes to see her soon and hangs up as he gets a call from Amy, who tells him about Sophia. Tate says he’ll be right there and hangs up.

Brady returns home to the DiMera Mansion where Kristen points out that Rachel didn’t say a word before heading upstairs. Belle arrives and says she’s there to see EJ. Belle tells Brady that she’s sorry the adoption didn’t work out and asks if he thinks they will give the baby to another family. Brady says he doesn’t know. Belle says to tell Johnny that she’s thinking about him as she heads in to the living room. Belle comments that EJ is out of his coma and already working. Belle questions EJ checking himself out of the hospital. EJ assures that he’s perfectly capable of recovering at home and that he’s hired a full time nurse. Belle questions the real reason that he was in such a hurry to come home. EJ reveals that he remembered that someone planted a camera in the room and he found it right before he was shot. EJ says he removed the memory card but claims that it’s gone. Belle asks who he thinks put the camera there. EJ calls that an excellent question and asks if there’s any chance it was her.

Brady asks Kristen to keep an extra close eye on Rachel since she was really quiet. Kristen asks what he expects when her uncle was shot, her grandmother is missing along with John, and her parents can’t get along. Kristen suggests it would be wonderful if they go to the Bistro as a family. Brady then gets a call from Tate that they are at the hospital, so he says he’s on his way. Brady hangs up and rushes out of the mansion.

Belle assures EJ that she did not plant a camera, but she understands he would suspect her because she wore a wire but she swears she didn’t do that. EJ tells Belle that he believes her but he’s so terribly upset about Johnny. EJ says he knew Johnny was hurting but he had no idea of the depth of his hatred for him. Belle knows how painful it must be to be estranged from him, but she knows her nephew and no matter how betrayed he feels, he will come around and it will just take time. EJ prays that she’s right, but he’s not sure how much time they really have with this. Belle offers to talk to Johnny if he thinks it would help. EJ tells her that she has no idea how much that would mean to him and thanks her.

Johnny exits the Salem Inn and runs in to Xander in the town square. Xander asks if he was visiting someone at the Salem Inn. Johnny reveals he’s staying there. Xander hopes he didn’t have to sell the home since they took over DiMera. Johnny remarks that he wouldn’t care if they did and that they could burn it down with EJ inside for all he cares. Xander notes that it seems EJ really pissed him off. Johnny assures that he hates EJ and wants nothing to do with him. Johnny adds that he would be thrilled if he never heard the name DiMera ever again.

At the hospital, Amy tells Tate and Brady about how Sophia was fine one minute and then dizzy. Marlena comes over and asks about Sophia. Brady says Sarah is with her now, so Marlena assures she’s in good hands. Tate asks if she’s going to be okay. Sarah comes over so Tate and Amy ask how Sophia and the baby are. Sarah reveals they are fine, but Sophia’s blood pressure is elevated so they will keep an eye on her. Sophia is brought out in a wheel chair. Amy is so glad she’s okay and declares that after this, Sophia will no longer be working at the Bistro. Sophia argues that had nothing to do with why she got dizzy and she likes her job so she’s not quitting. Sarah informs Sophia that she will have to because she’s being put on bed rest and will have to keep activity to a minimum. Sophia asks what about prom? Sarah is afraid that she won’t be able to attend. Sophia cries that her whole senior year is ruined. Sarah says she’s sorry but it’s what is best for her and the baby.

Xander knows it must be a hard time for Johnny and his family, so he apologizes if Titan taking over DiMera caused any problems. Johnny tells Xander that he can have the company and just not ever let EJ have it back. Xander assures that he won’t, but asks how Johnny would like to work there.

EJ tells Belle how grateful he is to her for making him want to be a better man. EJ yawns which he blames on the medication, putting him to sleep in Belle’s arms. EJ dreams of finding Rafe’s camera in the statue and turning around to see Johnny holding his gun on him. EJ then wakes up in a panic, so Belle asks what’s wrong but EJ tells her it was just a bad dream.

Steve joins Kayla in her office, questioning the drug being the only way to save Bo and Jeffrey refusing to hand it over. Kayla admits that Jeffrey had valid reasons for turning her down since it hasn’t been approved and the FDA could close his lab down if they found out. Steve guesses Kayla has done everything she can do. Kayla feels like a failure as a doctor and sister. Steve assures her that’s not true as he hugs her.

Alex goes to Stephanie’s apartment. Stephanie explains that she’s cleaning out a room for Jada since she and Rafe are over, so Jada will be staying with her. Alex asks if it’s really over. Stephanie confirms that they decided there was no saving their relationship. Alex says that’s too bad and adds that he assumed they patched things up since Jada wasn’t there last night. Stephanie informs Alex that Jada texted her that she was staying at Shawn’s. Alex asks what’s going on there. Stephanie is unsure but acknowledges they have hooked up before, so it’s possible there could be something.

Jada and Shawn sit together at the Brady Pub. Jada brings up the upsetting news Shawn received about his dad. Shawn guesses she stayed with him last night to make sure he didn’t fall off the wagon. Jada responds that she just wanted to be there for him so he thanks her and says he really appreciates her keeping him company as she really helped him. Philip arrives and asks if they have seen Kate. Jada informs him that Kate and Roman went out to run some errands. Shawn tells Philip that he’s been meaning to call him as he has some bad news about Bo as he’s taken a turn for the worse.

Gabi demands to know why Leo was looking through her purse. Leo tries to claim he heard her phone ringing but Gabi says she had her phone, so Leo claims he must be hearing things. Gabi demands to know what he was really doing. Javi comes home and questions what is going on as he heard them yelling from outside. Gabi tells Javi that Leo was going through her purse and she thinks he was trying to steal something which Leo denies. Gabi then declares that Leo has to move out immediately. Javi is sure it’s just a misunderstanding. Leo agrees and swears he’s not a thief. Gabi tells Javi about Rafe’s memory card missing and she’s sure that Leo took it. Javi then asks Leo if he’s been stealing from his cousins. Leo swears that he has not been. Gabi refuses to accept it and says she’s tried her best to tolerate Leo, but she wants him out of her house. Javi argues that she said it’s his house too. Gabi says she’s sorry but she’s pulling rank. Javi responds that if Leo goes, he goes too.

Alex presents Stephanie with a key to his apartment, explaining that since Jada is staying with her, they might be spending more time at his place when they need a little privacy. Stephanie then presents Alex with a key to her apartment and says he should have one too. Alex says they are leveling up their relationship. They agree to mark the moment with a kiss. They continue kissing until Stephanie reminds him that he has to get to work. Alex admits he’s a little nervous about what he’s walking in to and hopes Xander never finds out that he’s keeping that Sarah knew about Philip’s secret. Stephanie mentions checking on the hospital fundraiser and then hoping to take her mom to lunch, but she hasn’t texted her back yet.

Kayla tells Steve that she’s been scouring the internet for every possible alternative treatment for Sepsis but has had no luck. Steve argues that there has to be something that Bo’s doctors have missed. Kayla complains about having to tell Shawn that there was no luck. Steve asks if there’s something she can say to change Jeffrey’s mind. Kayla says there’s not. Steve assures that no one blames her. Kayla worries about Shawn blaming himself and questions how to tell him that she can’t get the miracle drug.

Philip asks Shawn if there’s anything they can do to treat Bo. Shawn says the antibiotics won’t be enough and if things keep going in this direction, his organs will start shutting down soon. Philip says he’s so sorry. Shawn notes there is one thing that could turn things around but it’s a long shot. Shawn tells Philip about the drug in the pipeline to cure Sepsis. Jada explains that the doctor working on it is at the hospital but Shawn adds that it would require special permission to be used and he hasn’t heard back from Kayla yet. Shawn then gets a call from Kayla and asks if she spoke to Jeffrey. Kayla confirms that she did but he’s not going to let them use the drug on Bo.

Gabi tells Javi that she loves him and doesn’t want him to move out but questions how he can expect her to live under the same roof as a criminal. Leo calls that rude and nasty while Gabi tells him to shut up. Javi understands they are both upset but argues that Gabi has no proof that Leo stole anything. Gabi points out that she caught Leo going through her purse. Leo swears that he wasn’t trying to steal anything. Gabi decides that she doesn’t have the energy to fight about this anymore. Gabi says that she was working from home to avoid a toxic environment but it’s just as bad, so she tells Javi that they are going to the office and storms out. Leo apologizes to Javi as he didn’t want to start a fight or for him to have to move out.. Javi tells him not to worry as they will figure something out. Javi kisses Leo and then follows Gabi out to get to work.

Kayla tells Shawn that she’ll let him know if she finds anything new as she hangs up. Steve guesses Shawn didn’t take the news very well. Kayla notes that he didn’t say much but she knows he’s devastated. Stephanie arrives and greets them. Stephanie explains that she texted Kayla but didn’t hear back, so she figured she’d come by to invite her to lunch so they can debrief about the hospital fundraiser. Kayla tells her it’s not a good time. Stephanie gets a weird vibe and asks if something is wrong.

Shawn explains to Jada and Philip that Dr. Russell decided it would be too risky to give Bo an untested drug. Jada tells him that she’s so sorry. Philip always thought eventually Bo would come back to them. Shawn points out that he’s not dead yet but admits he’s obviously upset. Philip acknowledges that he and Bo weren’t close but Bo is still his big brother. Philip encourages Shawn not to give up and assures that he’s there if he needs anything. Shawn thanks him as they hug.

Alex joins Xander at the Kiriakis Mansion and mentions that he thought they were meeting at the office. Xander admits he’s trying to avoid Philip. Alex thought he was banished to the basement. Xander says he still might run in to him but with any luck, after today, he’ll never have to see Philip again.

Leo records himself talking about the investigation in to who shot EJ and discusses Gabi as a suspect, noting that he didn’t find anything in her purse but that does not indicate that she’s in the clear. Leo then grabs a pen and paper to do it the old fashioned way. Leo begins writing down possible suspects starting with Gabi and then Rafe. Leo writes down the names of Ava, Kristen, and Johnny. Leo remarks that there’s so many to choose from, but his money is still on Gabi.

Gabi and Javi go to the Gabi Chic office to find Philip at the desk. Gabi questions him being in her office. Philip tells her that he technically owns it along with all DiMera properties. Gabi asks about him having his own office at Titan. Philip claims that it’s being renovated so he decided to use this one. Gabi questions if he’s trying to get her to quit and says she gladly would if he lets her buy back the rights to Gabi Chic. Philip tells her that’s not happening, so Gabi tells him to get out of her chair. Philip reminds her that he’s her boss. Gabi starts to call Philip names but Javi stops her and tells her to calm down. Gabi questions who asked him, so Javi walks out while Philip remarks on Gabi not being a people person.

Alex asks if Xander convinced the board to fire Philip. Xander says not yet but he spoke to Wei Shin and legal is looking for a way to get rid of Philip without jeopardizing their DiMera acquisition. Xander says he’s pursuing a few different avenues but should have an answer by later today. Alex assures that he can count on him to pick up any slack caused by Philip’s departure. Xander appreciates that but he’s still not sure that he fully trusts Alex since he knew Philip conned him out of half of his birthright and didn’t say anything. Xander remarks that if Vivian hadn’t told him, he still wouldn’t know. Alex argues that his hands were tied. Xander understands Stephanie asked him not to say anything but argues that he’s his cousin and he deserved to know which Alex agrees with. Alex tells Xander that he’s truly sorry as he believed he was doing the best thing for the company and their family. Alex understands he has to earn Xander’s trust back and asks for that chance. Xander tells Alex to just not keep any more secrets from him. Alex says he never will again.

Stephanie hugs Kayla and tells her she’s so sorry about Bo. Kayla feels like the hits keep coming with more bad news about the people they love. Steve comments that at least Kimberly’s treatment seems to be going well but he wishes they’d get an update on John. Stephanie asks what the last update was. Steve says just that the ISA thinks they were close to finding him. Steve complains that sitting around waiting for the phone to ring is driving him crazy and he wishes he could go out and do something. Kayla understands and feels like the clock is ticking while wishing she could do something to help Bo.

Shawn tells Jada that he knows he shouldn’t have gotten his hopes up when Kayla talked about the drug but he felt like it was their last chance. Jada encourages him not to give up hope. Shawn gets why Dr. Russell turned them down as he doesn’t want to waste his drug on one guy, but he wishes there was a way around it. Jada gets a text that she has to meet with Paulina. Jada says it shouldn’t take long and asks to meet Shawn at his place later. Shawn decides he’s going to go on a run to sweat out his frustrations. Jada says she will check in with him later then. Shawn thanks her for everything as she exits the Pub. Shawn then calls Steve and says he needs to see him right away. Shawn asks Steve not to say anything but he thinks he might know a way to save Bo.

Stephanie tells Kayla that she’s glad Shawn reached out to Steve. Kayla asks how she’s doing as she meant to ask her about the friend she was keeping the secret for since she was struggling with that. Stephanie says the truth more or less came out. Kayla asks if everything turned out okay. Stephanie says that remains to be seen.

Philip tells Gabi that she should consult the Titan handbook and comments on how she treated her assistant. Gabi says Javi is her cousin, they fight and make up. Philip says in his family, they fight but don’t make up. Gabi brings up that Brady forgave Philip for framing him for his murder. Philip acknowledges the exception. Gabi tells Philip to enjoy his family dysfunction while she and Javi will be just fine. Philip asks what about her and JJ since he saw them actively avoiding each other at the hospital fundraiser. Philip questions if there is trouble in paradise. Gabi says that’s none of his business. Philip then gets a call and steps out to answer it. Gabi then goes and throws Philip’s laptop in the trash as she takes the seat at her desk

Alex asks Xander if he’s going to publicly out Philip as a fraud if he gets the green light to fire him. Xander doesn’t see why not if it doesn’t affect the takeover. Alex points out that Philip would be facing some charges. Xander says that’s what he deserves and he’s lucky he doesn’t kill him. Xander goes looking for a file and heads upstairs. Alex then gets a call from Gabi, who says she wanted to touch base about their date that she won at the bachelor auction. Alex questions them really doing that as he thought it was just for charity. Gabi says they need something on the books. Alex suggests lunch at the Bistro next week. Gabi doesn’t like that he’s being cheap and reminds him that he said they could go where ever she wanted at the auction which Alex doesn’t recall. Gabi argues that Alex is a big level executive so she’s expecting more than lunch at a restaurant she’s been to a hundred times. Gabi suggests rather riding a hot air balloon or a getaway to a tropical island. Alex thinks that’s a bit over the top while Gabi argues that she shelled out $15 thousand for him so she demands more than a bowl of chowder at the Brady Pub.

Steve meets Shawn at the Brady Pub and asks him about thinking he knows a way to save Bo. Shawn explains that they know Dr. Russell won’t change his mind, but his drug is Bo’s only shot at surviving, so they need to get their hands on a dose of it. Steve asks what he’s saying. Shawn responds that they need to break in and steal the drug.

Alex reminds Gabi that this is not a romantic date since he’s seeing Stephanie and he thought she was seeing JJ. Gabi assures that she’s well aware but repeats that she paid $15 grand, so she wants him to at least take her somewhere with a gorgeous view so she can post pictures and make people jealous. Gabi tells Alex to call her back when he figures it out. Philip comes back in and questions Gabi shelling out $15 grand for a date with his cousin. Gabi says it was for charity. Philip notes that’s very generous considering it will be platonic. Gabi remarks that you never know as sometimes sparks fly when you least expect it. Philip guesses that’s true. Philip then asks where his laptop is. Gabi claims it must have fallen in the trash. Philip retrieves it, disgusted that it got food on it. Philip tells Gabi that he has to get to work. Gabi calls out to Javi, but there’s no answer so she wonders where the hell he is.

Javi returns home to Leo, who questions what he’s doing back so soon. Javi responds that he took an early lunch because he needed to get out before saying something to Gabi. Leo apologizes again for making waves. Javi needs Leo to be honest about why he was going through Gabi’s purse. Leo tells Javi that he’s working on a story. Javi questions if it’s about Gabi. Leo says he’s not sure yet but it’s a top secret and he can’t talk about it. Javi then grabs Leo’s paper and sees that Leo was writing a list of possible suspects that shot EJ, pointing out that Gabi and Rafe are on the top of the list. Leo reminds Javi that he was assigned to the shooting. Javi questions if this is why Leo was going through Gabi’s purse and if he’s trying to prove that she did it. Leo says he’s just exploring options. Javi argues that he cannot go after his family. Leo denies doing that. Javi demands Leo promise to drop this right now.

Xander returns to the living room as Alex asks if he’s ever rented a hot air balloon and if that’s even safe. Xander asks if he’s planning a hot date with Stephanie. Alex explains that Gabi won him in the auction and now wants something extravagant. Xander supposes it’s all for a good cause. Alex brings up the auction not making enough money to save the hospital from going under. Xander mentions thinking about liquidating some assets so Titan could buy the hospital which Alex says would be amazing. Xander says they can’t make such a huge investment until the dust settles on acquiring DiMera. Alex talks about needing to decide which divisions to keep since there’s a lot of similarity, pointing out that they don’t need DiMera Shipping since Titan has that covered. Xander brings up DiMera Pharmaceuticals and how Titan never ventured in to that. Xander points out that all it takes is one breakthrough drug and Titan could make millions…

Steve questions Shawn wanting to steal the drug. Shawn explains that they need to secure it to save Bo and if they do it this way, Dr. Russell is completely clean. Steve thinks he’ll know what’s happening if Bo survives. Shawn points out that no one could blame him and they will have what they want. Shawn declares that they need a miracle and that miracle is sitting in the lab, so they just need to go in there and take it. Steve calls it a solid plan but tells Shawn that he’s going to steal the drug on his own.

Javi asks Leo to let this go but Leo says he can’t since he has a job to do and he has to uncover the truth. Javi argues that he’s not a cop. Leo says he’s an investigative reporter. Javi argues that Leo is also his guest and warns him not to make him regret inviting him to move in. Leo says he has to do it for his job but agrees not to take advantage of living here and won’t be snooping. Leo asks what Javi will tell Gabi. Javi talks about Gabi being on edge lately which Leo remarks is ever since the shooting. Javi loves Gabi but says it’s becoming a bit much so maybe living and working together wasn’t such a good idea. Leo calls that an easy problem to solve, suggesting he quit.

Xander gets a call from Wei Shin. Xander hopes he has some good news. Xander asks if he’s sure and then questions how much longer he has to work with Philip. Xander is aware it’s a delicate time and they have to preserve confidence in the company. Xander questions if he’s being serious as Wei tells him that the truth about Philip’s fraud can never come out.

Philip complains that Gabi should be cleaning his laptop since she threw it in the trash. Gabi claims that it fell. Philip then gets a call from Carter and asks what he found out. Philip says that’s amazing and that when Xander finds out, he’s going to go ballistic. Philip thanks him for the scoop and hangs up. Gabi asks what that was about. Philip says he just caught a lucky break. Gabi remarks that it sounds like it was at Xander’s expense..

Alex returns to Stephanie’s apartment retrieve his wallet where Stephanie had been packing up things to make room for Jada. Alex comes across a stack of papers that include a novel written by Stephanie called “One Stormy Night”. Jada comes home and asks if Stephanie is around. Alex tells her that she’s at the hospital for work and he just came to get his wallet. Jada offers to make him some tea but Alex declines, noting that he has some reading to do as he takes the papers of Stephanie’s novel and exits.

Stephanie asks Kayla if she’s sure about not going to lunch. Kayla wants to stay and try to figure out a way to help Bo. Stephanie tells her to let her know if she can help in any way. Stephanie tells Kayla that she loves her and is there for her as they hug. Stephanie then exits the office.

Shawn is sure the lab has incredibly tight security and argues that Steve can’t break in on his own. Steve says he’ll find someone else to help him then. Shawn asks why he can’t help. Steve argues that Shawn is a cop, so if he gets caught, he would lose his job and end up in prison. Shawn complains that he’s already in prison by feeling like he’s the reason that Bo is in a coma and dying, so he wants to do anything to save him. Shawn declares that this was his idea and his plan, so he’s going to see it through. Steve points out that Bo wouldn’t like it while Shawn points out that Bo would do the exact same thing. Shawn asks Steve if he’s in this with him or not. Steve agrees to be in as they shake hands.

Cat and Felicity sit together in the town square as Chanel comes by and greets them. Cat tells her they are celebrating after Felicity’s medal ceremony at school and thanks Chanel for attending. Felicity brings up also celebrating that Chanel and Johnny are adopting a baby. Chanel then gets upset and runs away, leaving Cat confused.

EJ is sitting in a chair in his hospital room. Susan comes in and questions EJ being out of the hospital bed. EJ refuses and says he needs to get out. Susan asks why he’s in such a hurry. EJ flashes back to finding Rafe’s bugged camera device and taking the memory card from it. EJ then tells Susan that it’s Johnny as he can feel that his son needs him.

Johnny wakes up on the couch in the living room of the DiMera Mansion. Johnny thinks back to Chanel kicking him out the night before. Johnny questions what he has done as Paulina walks in and says that’s what she’d like to know.

Kayla is in her office on the phone with Kimberly, talking about Bo until Dr. Jeffrey Russell enters the office. He assumes it must be important to be summoned by the Chief of Staff. Kayla responds that it’s a matter of life and death. Kayla brings up that awhile back, he published a paper on research his lab did on a treatment for Sepsis and explains that she believes his drug might be her brother’s only hope.

Chad and Leo are at the Brady Pub together. Chad tells Leo that he’s been impressed with his recent articles. Leo jokes that maybe EJ should get shot more often but Chad gets upset and reminds him that EJ is his brother and gun violence is no joke. Leo admits his joke was insensitive and apologizes. Chad complains that the investigation is dragging on and they should’ve arrested someone by now. Leo brings up that Ava is now the lead suspect. Chad says that would make sense due to their bad blood but Leo argues that if Ava was out for revenge, she’d go after Kristen and her mother, so he questions why she would take out her wrath on EJ. Leo thinks they are barking up the wrong tree, so Chad tells Leo to go find out who tried to kill his brother.

Susan questions EJ saying he feels that Johnny needs him. EJ says he just knows Johnny is suffering and that he’s the source of his pain. EJ explains that Johnny recently learned things about his history with Sami that no son should ever hear about his father. EJ prays that he can somehow convince Johnny to forgive him.

Paulina questions Johnny sleeping on the couch. Johnny says he couldn’t spend the night alone in a room that he and Chanel used to share. Paulina remarks that the couch couldn’t have been too comfortable which Johnny confirms. Paulina suggests he clean himself up, get back to her place and make things right with his wife.

Felicity asks Cat why Chanel was upset. Cat responds that she’s not sure. Chanel comes back and apologizes for running off like that. Cat asks if Chanel is okay. Chanel says she’s just a little sad. Felicity asks if it’s about being a mommy. Chanel responds that she’s not going to be a mommy now and maybe not ever.

Gabi sits at home with her laptop, looking up investors as she feels there has to be someone who can help her get Gabi Chic away from Philip and Xander. Gabi then gets a call from her daughter Arianna. Gabi tells her that she misses her and talks about being excited to fly to Arizona for her high school graduation. Gabi finishes her call as Leo comes home. Gabi questions him not being at work. Leo reminds Gabi that he was going to quote her for his investigative news story because he’s a serious journalist now which Gabi mocks. Leo finds his reporting book written by Jack Deveraux. Gabi tells Leo that he’s no Jack. Leo tells Gabi not to be surprised when he’s the one who finds out who shot EJ.

Susan encourages EJ that Johnny will come around while EJ worries that the further they apart, the worse his feelings will grow. EJ brings up that Johnny hasn’t visited him once since he woke up. Susan offers to go get Johnny but EJ says he has to be the one to go to him. EJ declares that he needs to make amends with his son before it’s too late.

Paulina acknowledges that Johnny found out his father was more of a monster but argues that doesn’t mean Johnny is destined to become him. Paulina says her heart breaks for him but he should not have to pay for EJ’s sins. Johnny argues that he is EJ’s sin since he wouldn’t exist if he did not commit that horrible crime. Johnny asks how he’s supposed to move past that and start a family of his own. Paulina says she has the help of a strong woman in Chanel. Paulina knows Johnny is hurting but says Chanel is too, since starting a family was their dream. Paulina urges Johnny to fight for his marriage and his future. Paulina tells him not to let EJ steal his excitement from him. Johnny acknowledges that’s what Chanel said too. Paulina tells him to listen, feeling his father has already taken enough from him.

Felicity questions Chanel not adopting Sophia’s baby. Cat doesn’t think Chanel wants to talk about it right now. Felicity says she’s so sorry. Chanel says it’s okay and promises that she will be fine.

Jeffrey tells Kayla that he’s so sorry about Bo developing sepsis while already in a compromised state. Kayla calls it a dire situation and argues that the antibiotics won’t be enough, so if they don’t find another treatment, his organs will fail soon. Jeffrey says his heart goes out to them. Kayla brings up that the drug Jeffrey is working on could save Bo’s life. Jeffrey says they’ve only done early trials on animals and still have a lot of hurdles to jump over before using it on humans. Kayla asks if there’s no way to extradite the process because she believes Bo will die without it. Jeffrey says they still need more time to apply. Kayla asks about not applying, repeating that Bo will die without it. Jeffrey questions if she wants him to fix this to where Bo will get the drug, even if it means that no one else ever does.

Paulina joins Chanel in the town square with Felicity and Cat. Cat takes Felicity to get ready for school. Paulina points out that Chanel was gone before she and Abe woke up this morning. Chanel thought getting to work would be a good distraction but she can’t stop thinking about the adoption. Chanel asks how she’s supposed to sleep when she lost her family before she even got a chance to start it. Paulina argues that she hasn’t lost anything and that she and Johnny are just going through a temporary setback. Chanel complains that he called off the adoption. Paulina tells her that Johnny is just as miserable over it. Chanel questions her seeing Johnny. Paulina confirms that she went to the DiMera Mansion to tell him to get over himself but assures that she didn’t negate his feelings. Paulina explains that she told Johnny that he can’t let EJ ruin his marriage and she’s here to tell Chanel the same thing. Cat and Felicity run in to Chad in the town square. Felicity calls Cat amazing which Chad agrees with. Cat then sends Felicity to the school bus and comments on her being persistent.

Susan stops EJ from getting up and says she needs him to be safe. EJ insists that he’ll be fine once he’s at home and asks Susan to go to the DiMera Mansion to get it prepared for his return. Susan reminds him that the last time he was there, someone tried to kill him and could still be out there. EJ brings up that the police believe it was Ava Vitali as she apparently threw the gun away and fled the country, so he doubts she will be coming back. Susan says Ava might not, but Gabi still could. Susan insists that Gabi was there the night that EJ was shot and that someone is going to prove her right.

Gabi tells Leo that the cops already know who shot EJ. Leo remarks that Ava is just a person of interest but when he posts his next article on the shooting, it will include actual facts that point to a viable suspect. Gabi asks who Leo thinks shot EJ. Leo responds that he’s looking at her. Gabi questions if he’s seriously going to accuse her of attempted murder. Leo brings up that JJ did the same thing. Gabi argues that he’s wrong and asks how anyone can’t see that Ava leaving town is a dead giveaway that she pulled the trigger. Gabi adds that when the police track Ava down, she will be arrested. Leo says until then, Gabi is still among persons of interest in EJ’s shooting. Leo adds that Gabi did almost run in to him in the town square and that she said EJ deserved a one way ticket to hell, that she hates him, and that he deserves to pay. Gabi tells Leo that she did not shoot EJ. Leo remarks that she’s awfully defensive for someone who claims to be innocent and that it’s almost like she has something to hide.

Johnny finds Susan in the living room of the DiMera Mansion. They hug and Johnny says it’s nice to see her. Susan tells him that she was at the hospital with EJ and he’s itching to see him. Johnny remarks that last time he was there, EJ was in a coma and couldn’t do any more damage to anyone. Susan encourages Johnny being able to forgive EJ one day but Johnny doesn’t want to talk about EJ as his focus needs to be on his wife and figuring out if he can convince her to forgive him.

Paulina knows that Chanel agrees with her since Johnny said she told him not to let EJ be the reason the adoption doesn’t happen. Chanel argues that he didn’t listen. Paulina insists that it’s temporary and that Johnny is just dealing with complicated feelings. Chanel complains that Johnny never said anything about having doubts about being a parent. Chanel says she knew something would happen to make the adoption fall through but she didn’t expect it to be her husband. Paulina says Johnny didn’t mean to hurt her. Chanel says he did though and complains that she wanted to be a mother, but Johnny decided that wasn’t going to happen. Chanel declares that what Johnny did was cruel and exactly like EJ. Chanel says that there’s a hole in her heart and Johnny put it there. Chanel talks about Johnny knowing how much she wanted this, especially after losing their baby, so she doesn’t know how she can get past this.

Kayla assures Jeffrey that she would not want to jeopardize his drug from saving people from Sepsis and she didn’t mean to overstep, she’s just so worried about her brother. Jeffrey says his heart goes out to her family but trying to get around the FDA could set them back to square one. He wishes he could help but his hands are tied. He hopes he’s not about to add to her distress as he tells Kayla that it’s been a wonderful experience working there, but he’d like to explore the possibility of taking his research lab elsewhere and he hopes the hospital will let him out of his contract. Kayla argues that he can’t just leave since he’s under contract. Jeffrey says that’s why he’s asking to be let out of the contract. Kayla questions why when they have fully funded his lab for years. Jeffrey says he’s grateful but there’s concern about the hospital shutting down. Kayla insists that it’s not going to and that they are turning it around. Jeffrey argues that the investors courting him have way deeper pockets. Kayla guesses he’s selling out to big pharma. Jeffrey says it’s not just about the money but the potential of saving lives with a drug he worked hard on. He says she can’t expect him to risk it all by cutting corners to help her brother. Kayla gets messaged about a patient crisis and says she has to go. Jeffrey tells Kayla that he’s sorry and he will pray for her family as he exits.

Cat tells Chad that she’s sorry about Felicity. Chad says she’s a good kid. Cat assures that she told Felicity that she and Chad are just friends and were only working together for the hospital fundraiser. Chad points out that the fundraiser is now over. Cat jokes with Chad about Maggie being his auction date. Cat is glad that Charlotte won’t have to worry and that it all worked out. Chad asks what about Cat’s hot date.

Paulina sits with Chanel and tells her that marriages go through all kinds of ups and downs. Chanel feels all they’ve had was the worse and questions when they ever get to experience the better. Paulina encourages that she found a man who promised to love her for all eternity and that’s the best. Paulina says they will have some rough patches like now and they support, comfort, and forgive each other. Paulina encourages her to believe their love will get them through it.

Kayla goes to EJ’s hospital room and questions why he’s out of bed and dressed. EJ responds that he needs her to discharge him immediately. Kayla asks if he’s joking since he just came out of a coma after being shot. EJ is confident that he would recover much faster in his own home. Kayla argues that he needs some help. EJ says he’s arranged for full time private nursing and will have top notch care. Kayla says she doesn’t have the energy to argue with him, so she will have him sign a paper that says he’s leaving against medical advice and won’t hold the hospital liable, then he’s free to go.

Gabi tells Leo that she’s not hiding anything. Leo argues that her demeanor says otherwise. Gabi threatens to punch him in the face and warns him that if he publishes anything in the Spectator alleging that she had anything to do with EJ’s shooting, she will sue him and toss him out. Leo admits he wanted to follow up on JJ’s accusation which Gabi calls highly offensive and false. JJ suggests Gabi take a breath or a roll in the hay with Alex since she did pay $15,000 for a date with him. Leo remarks that it’s a hefty sum for someone who is about to be unemployed. Gabi declares that she’s done with this conversation. Gabi brings up Rafe missing his video camera’s memory card and asks if Leo has seen it. Leo says he hasn’t. Gabi says she’s going to freshen up and tells Leo to be gone when she comes back.

Susan tells Johnny that she’s so sorry for what he’s going through but she has faith that it will all work out as Chanel will come around and he will reconcile with EJ. Johnny calls that a lost cause. Susan hopes not since EJ will be home soon. Johnny questions how soon. EJ then arrives. Johnny questions what he’s doing there instead of the hospital. EJ explains that he convinced Kayla that his recovery would be better at home. Johnny gets upset and goes to leave but Susan stops him and says they need to work this out. Johnny responds that there’s nothing to work out and declares that EJ DiMera is dead to him as he then storms out. Susan gets hit with a very strong feeling and tells EJ that Johnny has a bad secret.

Chad tells Cat that she never said who won the date with her in the silent auction. Cat reveals that she hasn’t found out yet, but then gets a message alerting her that the date with her was won by EJ DiMera. Chad calls him a son of a bitch.

Leo sees Gabi left her purse in the living room and struggles with whether or not to go through it. Leo decides to dig through Gabi’s purse to find out what she’s hiding but Gabi comes back and catches him, asking what the hell he’s doing.

Johnny comes across Chanel in the town square, but she turns and enters the Bakery, so Johnny walks away.

EJ questions Susan thinking Johnny has a secret. Susan says she felt it when he walked out and that it’s more than anger. Susan tells EJ that Johnny is hiding something very dark. EJ suggests Susan put her powers to great use. EJ informs her that he lost something important and asks for her help finding it. Susan asks what he lost. EJ then remembers where he put it and tells Susan nevermind, so she goes upstairs to get his room ready. EJ struggles to walk over to his desk where he sits down and opens his laptop. EJ then pulls the memory card out of the drawer and plugs it in. EJ then plays the video, revealing Johnny entering the room and pointing his gun at EJ, leaving EJ shocked and worried.

Xander and Sarah eat together at the Brady Pub. Sarah mentions an upcoming overnight shift while Xander decides he will go to the office tonight and hopes not to bump in to Philip.

Holly goes to her room where Doug III explains that he was hiding in the bathroom from the staff cleaning up. Holly feels she should tell Maggie that he’s staying there as she doesn’t think Maggie will freak out since she is compassionate and understanding. Doug III asks her to hold off for a day or two since he didn’t get a job at the Bistro but he turned in some applications in hopes that he can get his own place soon. Holly decides she will go get them a pizza and will be back soon.

Sophia walks through the town square and thinks back to Tate asking her to prom. Tate then approaches and asks about her shopping. Sophia says she bought a few maternity prom dresses in hopes that one works. Tate is sure she will look great. Sophia says she’s thinking of prom as a celebration for the three of them as soon, their baby will be going to a loving home with people who can’t wait to be parents.

Chanel questions Johnny wanting to talk about the adoption with her. Johnny reveals that he hasn’t been honest with her and informs her that Belle did come over with the adoption papers, but he didn’t sign them because he’s not sure he can go through with the adoption which shocks Chanel. Chanel asks what is going on and since when he’s having doubts. Johnny says it’s since he found out what his father did to his mother. Johnny explains that he feels lost and bringing a child in to his life right now would not be fair when he can’t be the father that the baby deserves.

Tate asks to see Sophia’s dress. Sophia says no and that she’ll tell him which color when she decides among the four or five since she has to try them on at home to see which one draws the least attention. Tate assures that they will have a fun time. Tate calls it a big month for her with prom, her 18th birthday, and their baby getting adopted. Sophia calls it a lot to deal with and admits she doesn’t know how she would’ve gotten through this last year without him. Tate assures that they were always in this together and hugs her right as Holly walks in to the town square.

Doug III gets a call back about a job. He says he can come in for an interview today and that he’ll get there as soon as he can.

Xander tells Sarah that it was easy enough to toss Philip out of the house but at the office, he’s stuck with him to not jeopardize the take over of DiMera. Xander adds that part of him thinks it’s not even worth it since he’s lying to everyone again. Xander wonders if it’s even possible to stop the whole truth from coming out.

Doug III prepares to sneak out of Holly’s room but hides back when he sees Maggie going down the hall.

Sarah knows Xander is worried about the board and investors finding out about Philip’s lies but encourages that Xander didn’t do anything wrong. Xander feels now he’s keeping the secret which makes him complicit. Sarah encourages that he was doing it for the greater good. Xander worries that if Philip’s deception comes out, it will look bad for the whole company so part of him thinks he should be honest now and just get it out. Sarah thinks back to Maggie’s advice about no good coming out of telling Xander that she knew about Philip’s secret. Sarah tells Xander that she gets the temptation to want to come clean and clear his conscience, but he has to remember that he’s doing it to protect his family, so all he can do is believe that everything will work out.

Maggie runs in to Philip in the hallway. Philip says he just came to get the rest of his stuff since Henderson told him no one was there. Philip understands how upset she must be. Maggie says she can’t express how disgusted she is with him. Doug III listens in from Holly’s room as Maggie goes off on Philip about his terrible choices and roping people in to lie for him.

Tate and Sophia greet Holly, who says she’s just picking up some pizza. Tate says they were just celebrating as the adoption went through. Holly calls that amazing news and says she’s really happy for them. Sophia adds that they decided to celebrate by going to the prom together as Tate just asked her this afternoon, so she’s been out shopping for dresses. Sophia hopes they’ll see Holly there. Holly says maybe and congratulates them as she goes to pick up her food.

Chanel argues that Johnny found out about what EJ did weeks ago and questions why she’s just now hearing about this. Johnny explains that he thought the adoption was off so he didn’t think he needed to deal with it and Chanel was already dealing with so much that he didn’t want to make it worse. Chanel understands how devastating and confusing the news must have been for Johnny but cries that they can get through this and go to therapy. Johnny argues that he’s not sure he’ll be able to do that by the time Sophia’s baby is born and feels it’s unfair to lead Sophia and Tate on when they could be interviewing other parents. Chanel cries that they are the best candidates and she already feels in her heart like she is that baby’s mother. Chanel knows when Johnny sees the baby, he will fall in love. Johnny responds that he doesn’t know that. Chanel urges him to trust her when she says that he is not his father and nothing he did could ever change that. Chanel argues that EJ has already taken away enough from he and Sami, so she pleads with him not to let EJ take away their chance to start a family.

Sophia asks Tate what he wants to do before prom but notes he’s distracted and asks what he’s thinking about. Tate says just how lucky they are to have found Johnny and Chanel to give their baby a great life. Sophia calls it incredible how Chanel brought them flowers. Tate suggests they should get them something like a frame or a mug. Sophia suggests they could also get them a scrapbook. Tate loves the idea so Sophia reveals she already got one while she was shopping. Tate recalls his mom having one like it for him and assures that Johnny and Chanel will love it. Sophia asks when they should give it to them, so they decide to go see them now.

Chanel tells Johnny that it’s totally understandable that he has no doubts but she’s never been more certain about anything in her life. Chanel tells Johnny to lean on her and let her be certain for the both of them. Johnny worries about Chanel coming to resent him because he can’t be there for her and the baby like he should be. Chanel insists that won’t happen but Johnny says it messed with his sense of self to know that his father was capable of all the horrible things he’s done and he can’t help but wonder if it’s genetic and if he could be as a bad of a person as EJ is. Chanel argues that it’s not genetic and that the man that EJ is came from his life circumstances while Johnny is a good person with a good heart. Chanel states that how Johnny was conceived has nothing to do with the man he is. Johnny is not sure about that and feels he needs to know for sure before he can be a parent. Chanel asks what about what she needs.

Xander feels he is stressing Sarah out, so he’s done talking about work because every time he brings up Philip and his lies, it clearly upsets her and he never wants to do that. Sarah wants him to be okay. Xander responds that he’ll be fine. Xander brings up where to go on their upcoming anniversary as he still owes her a honeymoon and he wants to make it as special as they can. Sarah agrees that it sounds perfect.

Philip tells Maggie that he wasn’t trying to hurt anyone. Doug III remains in Holly’s room, wondering if they are ever going to leave. Maggie argues that Philip stole from Xander and didn’t care who got caught in the crosshairs of his lies. Philip argues that Victor was his father too and always wanted him to be part of his legacy. Maggie says there are other legal ways to pursue that not involving Vivian. Philip admits he was desperate and Vivian offered him a lifeline. Philip talks about how he and Xander got close like real brothers which leads him to believe they could get through this like a family. Philip asks if that’s not possible. Maggie tells him it’s not. Maggie says she has too much to deal with for this, so she trusts he will be gone before anyone else comes home. Philip then goes on to get his things. Doug III then tries to sneak out from Holly’s room but Philip steps back out and catches him, questioning who the hell he is.

Maggie goes to the hospital to see Julie. Maggie says she heard she was volunteering again. Julie says she’s trying to be useful. Maggie says she’s sorry to hear about Bo. Julie says Hope is putting on a brave front. Maggie mentions her donation at the hospital fundraiser, hoping it could help Bo in some way. Julie is sure it will help more than she has any idea.

Doug III takes Philip in to Holly’s room and explains that he’s been crashing there ever since Julie kicked him out. Philip asks if it was Holly’s idea but Doug III doesn’t want to rat her out. Philip questions if anyone else knows. Doug III confirms that they don’t and mentions that he has a job interview and if he gets it, he can get his own place. Doug III asks if Philip won’t tell Maggie. Philip responds that he probably should since she just gave him a lecture about telling the truth, but he’s moving out so he won’t be running in to her a lot. Philip declares that he won’t lie for him, but he won’t go out of his way to tell his family about their secret houseguest either. Doug III thanks him. Philip advises him to get out as soon as he can because no matter how hard you try to keep a secret, it has a way of coming out. Philip then exits.

Sarah tells Xander that he doesn’t have to take her anywhere to prove his love to her, but assures that she does want to go. Xander says he will have the Titan travel agent send them some ideas. Sarah then gets paged to work. Xander offers her a ride but Sarah says she wants to get her steps in on a nice night, so Xander says he’ll see her back at the house. Sarah stops him to thank him, feeling they both got each other through the past year. Sarah says that Xander and Victoria are her world, so everything she does is for them. Xander tells her the same as they kiss and he then exits the Pub.

Chanel cries that she’s been dreaming of raising this baby since the second she knew it could be their baby. Chanel says she could feel her heart expanding and now Johnny is breaking it. Johnny says that’s the last thing he ever wanted to do. Chanel complains that he’s making this decision for both of them when all she wants to do is start a family with him. Chanel asks if Johnny even knows if he’ll ever want that. Sophia and Tate then show up at the door, asking if it’s a bad time. Johnny starts to respond but Tate says they won’t say long. Sophia says that they were so touched by Chanel’s flowers that they wanted to do something nice for her. Sophia asks if everything is okay. Chanel says they were just talking about something really heavy. Sophia presents Chanel with the scrapbook so they can keep memories of the baby. Tate asks if they are sure everything is fine. Johnny doesn’t want to make this any more difficult than it needs to be. Chanel stops him but Johnny says the sooner, the better. Johnny then announces that it’s been a very difficult decision but they can’t adopt their baby.

Maggie tells Julie about donating a million dollars to have dinner with Chad since she was going to make a donation anyway. Julie jokes that she gets to have dinner every night with Chad for nothing. Maggie asks how Julie likes volunteering at the hospital again. Julie says she wants to help but admits it’s not the most emotionally satisfying job. Julie says that when Doug died, she thought her life was over but then Maggie, the family, and friends were so kind and supportive. Julie says it was great comfort and eased the grief, but now she’s not so self assure and seems to be upset by every little thing, especially since she evicted Doug III. Maggie asks if she misses him. Julie says she misses the person that she thought he was but what he did was despicable. Maggie brings up when Julie once shoplifted as a teenager. Julie questions comparing that to what Doug III did. Maggie clarifies that she’s not telling her to forgive Doug III, but even good people make mistakes. Maggie says she’s realizing that more lately. Julie argues that he made a choice and questions how she could trust him again. Maggie asks if she knows where he went. Julie says she has no idea and doesn’t give a damn.

Doug III walks through the town square with his bag packed. He gets a call and says it’s been awhile as he didn’t think he’d hear from them again after he paid his debts. He questions them saying he owes more because of interest. He says he’s applying for jobs now, so if they give him time, he can get the money. Doug III adds that the Kiriakis Mansion is not his house and swears he’s not rich. He then questions how they knew where he was staying, but they hang up on him.

Philip goes to Titan and notes that Xander is working late, but guesses he hoped not to run in to him. Xander responds that he doesn’t want Philip in the company or even in Salem. Philip insists that he regrets hurting him and isn’t trying to make things worse. Xander says it’s too late. Philip reminds him that he’s still his co-CEO and he’s not walking away from Titan. Xander threatens to throw him out the window instead. Philip says they both know Xander isn’t going to toss him out unless he wants to throw away everything they worked for the last few months. Xander asks if he’s absolutely sure about that.

Sophia questions Johnny and Chanel not adopting their baby when her mom said it was okay. Chanel asks for time to work through this but Johnny argues that it’s not fair to make them wait when they could be out there looking for other parents. Johnny says they have to be honest with them which Tate questions. Johnny tells Chanel that he’s sorry. Johnny explains to Tate and Sophia that they meant it when they said they wanted to adopt their baby, but so much has changed. Sophia questions what changed. Johnny says it’s personal but he doesn’t think it’s fair for him to be someone’s father when he doesn’t think he’s ready. Johnny repeats that he really is sorry. Sophia gets upset and storms out. Tate goes after Sophia while Chanel breaks down crying.

Holly returns home to her room with pizza. She finds a note from Doug III, saying he’s sorry to dash but he can’t keep getting her in to trouble for him and thanking her for being a better friend to him than he deserved.

Doug III sits in the town square and looks up homeless shelters near him.

Julie and Maggie talk about going home. Julie talks about missing being home with Doug which Maggie relates to in thinking about Victor. Maggie encourages Julie to think about the wonderful times with Doug and it will warm her heart instead of causing more pain. Maggie tells Julie that she loves her as they hug. Julie then walks away as Sarah arrives and greets Maggie. Maggie says she was making a donation to the fundraiser and staying out of the house until Philip gets his things. Maggie asks Sarah if Xander isn’t going home yet because she doesn’t think they should be under the same roof unsupervised. Sarah confirms that Xander went to the office so Maggie says she won’t have to alert the staff. Sarah tells Maggie that she was thinking about what she said and agrees that no good will come from Xander knowing that she knew about what Philip did, so the only way to move forward is to let go of the past as they hug.

Philip says as much as Xander hates him right now, he knows he can’t torpedo this takeover and talks about accomplishing together what Victor spent half his life trying to achieve. Xander agrees that he won’t blow the deal by telling the world that Philip is a liar and a fraud yet, but there are other ways to force out a partner. Xander tells Philip to give him time, but until then, he wants his desk out of his office and he’ll make sure there’s a room with his name on it in the basement.

Tate and Sophia walk through the town square. Sophia questions why this keeps happening with the adoption and why Johnny just changed his mind. Tate encourages that there’s still time to look for new parents. Sophia says not any that her mom will approve of and wonders what they are going to do. Tate gets a call from Holly but ignores it.

Holly calls Tate but he doesn’t answer.

Tate promises Sophia that they will figure something out as they are in this together. Tate hugs her and then they walk off together.

Johnny tells Chanel that he knows that was awful but Tate and Sophia deserve to know the truth. Chanel calls it his truth and not her truth. Chanel complains that Johnny just dropped this bombshell on her and they didn’t even get to finish discussing it before he called off the adoption. Johnny says he’s sorry. Chanel wants Johnny to leave which he questions. Chanel tells Johnny to just go back to the DiMera Mansion since EJ isn’t there. Johnny argues that they can work this out. Chanel says she can’t even look at him. Johnny says she doesn’t mean that but Chanel yells at him to just go. Johnny then exits as Chanel breaks down crying further.

Sophia finds Tate at the lockers at school. They talk about how they are both volunteering at the Spring Olympiad and how it will be fun to do something different outdoors. Sophia says she’s so relieved that their baby is going to a good home. Tate says he is too.

Johnny joins Chanel in the living room which is filled with baby clothes and toys. Chanel excitedly shows him a crib on her tablet and talks about how excited Paulina is for the baby. Chanel asks Johnny if Belle dropped off the adoption papers. Johnny claims she must have gotten swamped at work. Chanel hopes she doesn’t forget about them. Johnny promises that Belle is on top of it. Chanel says with everything they’ve been through, she’s so worried that something will go wrong and stop the adoption from going through.

Shawn tells Hope on the phone that he’s getting on the next flight. Shawn says he knows Bo is in isolation but there has to be something they can do. Shawn says he wants to be there for her. Shawn asks if he’s sure and says he loves her too as they hang up. Jada asks what Hope said. Shawn informs Jada that his dad, Bo is dying.

Roman and Kayla sit together at the Brady Pub. Roman mentions hearing that Maggie donated a million dollars at the auction which Kayla confirms. Kayla says the auction was fabulous and thanks Roman for letting them use the Pub. Roman calls that is contribution. Kayla says she’s feeling really optimistic and positive about the future of the hospital now as she feels her spirits have been lifted. Roman is happy to hear that and knows there’s another reason for her spirits to be lifted too.

Marlena and Steve return home to Salem and stop outside the Brady Pub. They talk about being so happy to see that sign again. Marlena says they almost went on a wild goose chase if they listened to Orpheus’ lies. Steve says now Andrew and Paul are following an actual lead. Marlena has a good feeling about it and thinks they will find John to bring him home.

Kayla confirms to Roman that her spirits are definitely lifted because Steve will be home any minute. Kayla admits she feels a bit guilty because her husband is coming home to her while Marlena doesn’t even know where John is. Roman encourages that the whole family is on the case now and nobody is giving up until they find John which means he will be coming home too. Kayla then gets a call from Hope, who informs her about Bo. Roman questions what’s wrong.

Johnny didn’t realize Chanel was still worried about the adoption going through. Chanel says she’s excited and happy more than anything, but can’t help but still be nervous with all the ups and downs. Chanel points out that until the papers are signed, Amy could still change her mind, especially now that EJ woke up. Johnny asks what she means. Chanel reminds him that Amy agreed only because they put in writing that EJ won’t be involved in the baby’s life. Chanel asks if EJ will respect that. Johnny responds that EJ won’t have a vote. Chanel says she felt more at ease when EJ was in a coma but notes that it’s not like she wanted him dead. Johnny remarks that he did want EJ dead and he means it. Chanel brings up how they aren’t moving back to the DiMera Mansion and says she looked at home listings. Chanel reveals that Paulina found them a town house so she started thinking why waste their money on rent when they could splurge on a house. Chanel explains that she found a house and thought it would be nice for their baby to grow up with all that space.

Sophia tells Tate that if they hurry, they can make the swim meet. Tate says he’d rather just hang out and kill some time because Holly is friends with most of the swim team, so he’s not exactly their favorite person. Sophia encourages that maybe now that the adoption is back on, he and Holly can work things out. Sophia starts to say it’s none of her business. Tate states that the main reason they broke up is because of Doug III. Sophia feels Holly will come around and see that Tate was just looking out for her but Tate doubts it. Tate decides on changing the subject by bringing up Sophia’s upcoming 18th birthday and asks about her plans. Sophia explains that she doesn’t have any plans since it’s the same day as the prom, so most of her friend would be busy. Tate calls that so lame and suggests making the prom her birthday party. Sophia jokes that being pregnant without a date is not her idea of a fun time, so Tate says they’ll go together. Tate feels she deserves a do-over after last year and asks Sophia to go to prom with him but Sophia says no.

Jada tells Shawn that she’s so sorry. Shawn says it sounds like they are going to lose him and blames himself. Jada tells him not to do this to himself as he didn’t have a choice in protecting his mother. Shawn feels he just caused Hope and his entire family a whole world of hurt. Shawn questions how he’s supposed to face them now and how he’s supposed to live with himself if his own father dies.

Kayla asks Hope if there’s anything they can do as they finish their phone call. Roman guesses it’s about Bo and asks Kayla how bad it is. Steve and Marlena then enter the Pub. Steve tells Kayla that he’s so happy to see her but notes her sadness and asks what’s wrong. Kayla tells him that it’s Bo as they hug.

Johnny tells Chanel that it’s a beautiful house, but he doesn’t want them to fall in love with it before they go see it in person. Chanel says she’ll tamper her excitement for now. Chanel then gets a text that Felicity won her gymnastics competition in school which excites them. Chanel says if she leaves now, she can make it to Salem High in time for the medal ceremony as she feels it’d be really nice for Felicity to see a familiar face. Johnny tells Chanel that she’s amazing and remarks that any kid would be lucky to have her as their mom. Chanel says that’s lucky to have both of them as parents. Chanel tells Johnny that she will be back soon and exits. Johnny gets up and looks at the baby clothes, then walks out of the apartment as well.

Tate questions Sophia not even taking a minute to think about it. Sophia explains that it’s not personal and says that maternity prom dresses are really weird or ugly. Tate argues that she could pull off anything and would look beautiful. Sophia thanks him but declines and says she’s not going. Sophia then admits that how she looks is not the real reason she said no. Tate asks what she’s worried about then. Sophia asks if he’s just trying to make Holly jealous.

Shawn sits with Jada and talks about how when he was a kid, he and Bo both thought Hope was gone and Bo was grieving, but would never let him see it. Jada recalls Steve telling her that they lived on a house boat for a bit. Shawn recalls that being awesome and talks about how they would go fishing and swimming. Shawn declares that no matter what he needed, Bo was always there for him. Shawn tearfully calls Bo the best man and father in the entire world. Jada hugs Shawn as he cries.

Steve asks Kayla what’s going on with Bo. Roman mentions that she got a call from Hope. Kayla says he’s still with them but has taken a turn for the worse. Steve asks what happened. Kayla reveals that Bo contracted a virus from the ventilator and now has sepsis and the antibiotics may not be enough. Roman asks what the outlook is. Kayla says it’s hard to say and talks about how things can spread. Steve questions if they are giving up and if there’s no way Bo could pull through. Kayla explains that Bo is in isolation with no visitors, so he has a fighting chance but his odds are not good. Roman asks if there’s nothing they can do or if there’s no other treatment to help him. Kayla says any other treatment would be the holy grail of medical research. Kayla then remembers there is something being developed right under their noses as one of the directors in her department is working on something for sepsis. Marlena mentions hearing about Dr. Russell in his lab. Kayla confirms that he’s working on something for the multi-organ failure from sepsis. Roman wants to get him on the phone. Kayla says it’s not that simple since it’s still in development and hasn’t even been tested yet. Kayla feels it could be a long time before it’s approved and certainly not in time to save her brother.

Tate swears to Sophia that he did not ask her to prom to make Holly jealous and he just thought it would be a chance for them to do some nice senior stuff, but it’s totally her call. Chanel arrives and greets them, explaining that she came see Felicity. Chanel admits that she was hoping to see them here too.

Shawn tells Jada that he’s sorry. Jada relates to Shawn loving his father and worrying about him as she brings up her father being sick for awhile before passing. Shawn points out that at least Jada got to be by his side. Jada confirms she got to tell him that she loved him one last time. Jada assures Shawn that if he thinks being by Bo’s side will rid him of the guilt and regret, it doesn’t. Shawn asks what Jada had to feel guilty about. Jada says she didn’t become a doctor while her sister Talia was in medical school at the time and her family were pushing her to get in to medicine but she wanted to be a cop and save the world. Shawn is pretty sure that her dad is very proud of her. Jada thanks him but says if she kept listening to her dad, she could’ve been a doctor and maybe could’ve saved him. Jada knows Shawn wishes he could be with his parents now, but insists that he is right where he belongs. Jada mentions moving to Salem so she could be around people who loved and respected her dad which gave her a lot of comfort, so Shawn should find comfort in that too.

Steve and Kayla walk through the town square. Kayla asks how he’s doing. Steve says not to worry about him when Bo is her brother. Kayla points out that Steve and Bo have always been as close as brothers. Steve guesses he’s still processing it. Steve recalls hardly believing when they found Bo alive two years ago and jokes that if anyone was stubborn enough to cheat death, it was Bo. Steve insists that Bo will do it again.

Roman sits with Marlena and asks how she’s holding up. Marlena feels she should be asking him that. Roman admits he’s terrified for his little brother Bo, but that doesn’t mean he stops worrying about her. Johnny enters the Pub. Roman calls him someone who can lift their spirits. Johnny excitedly hugs Marlena and tells her how happy he is that she’s back. Johnny asks if there’s any word on John. Marlena says nothing definitive but she hopes to hear something very soon. Roman asks Johnny if he can get him anything. Johnny says he’ll just take a beer so Roman heads to the counter while Johnny sits with Marlena. Marlena asks Johnny to catch her up with what’s been going on as she understands it’s been a stressful few weeks for him. Johnny remarks that the whole town can’t stop talking about his father being shot. Marlena is glad he survived and wonders how Johnny is dealing with what he found out. Johnny guesses Sami called her which Marlena confirms. Marlena says that Sami told her that she explained to him how he was conceived and that they had a long talk about it which she thought went well. Johnny confirms that it did and that hearing Sami’s side of things helped, but it doesn’t change how he feels about his father. Marlena asks if he’s spoken to EJ since he woke up. Johnny questions what he’s supposed to tell EJ, that he’s not happy he woke up and wishes he died?

Shawn tells Jada that tonight did not go as he planned since he invited her over to take her mind off of her problems and now she’s kind of drowning in his problems. Jada tells him that there’s nowhere else she’d rather be. Shawn says he just feels so helpless right now. Jada suggests they go out for some fresh air which Shawn calls a great idea.

Kayla tells Steve that it all feels so pointless as they are crossing their fingers and saying prayers for Bo to pull through this when it makes her question why she got her medical degrees since she spends her days saving lives and healing people but when it comes to her own family, she can’t do anything. Steve encourages that they are not giving up. Kayla wishes she could do something to help Bo.

Sophia asks Chanel if everything is okay. Chanel says she just wanted to give them something and presents them with flowers. Sophia thanks her but asks what for. Chanel says she and Johnny have put them through the ringer for weeks and they could’ve picked someone else to adopt their baby, but they stuck by them and now they get to start a family because of them, so she wanted to give something. Chanel says they are giving them the biggest gift they have ever received and they will always be in their hearts because of it. Chanel gets emotional as Sophia and Tate assure they are so grateful for her too. Sophia hugs Chanel.

Marlena tells Johnny that he’s allowed to feel whatever he’s feeling but since there’s an ongoing police investigation, she warns him to be careful about what he says about EJ. Johnny admits he shouldn’t have said that in front of anyone. Marlena wasn’t going to talk to him about that but she knows what EJ did complicated his life. Johnny argues that it complicated a lot more than just his life. Marlena guesses he means the adoption and how that could certainly derail it but Tate told her that Amy changed her mind, so nothing is standing in their way now. Johnny says there’s nothing, except him.

Shawn and Jada walk through the town square and come across Kayla and Steve. Jada tells Kayla that she’s so sorry to hear about Bo. Kayla thanks her and asks how Shawn is doing. Shawn says he’s in shock like everyone else. Shawn mentions just getting off the phone with Ciara and now he has to call Claire, but he’s pretty sure he’s the last person they want to hear from after getting the news. Kayla assures that’s not true but Shawn argues that if their father dies, it’s because of him. Steve encourages Shawn to not blame himself and says they have to stick together as a family as the only way to get through this.

Marlena questions Johnny not being sure he wants to be a parent. Johnny says up until a few weeks ago, he had no doubts and he hates feeling this way. Marlena asks how Chanel reacted. Johnny admits he hasn’t told her and asks how he could when she just finished telling him how happy she is that everything is finally falling in to place and now he’s just going to sweep the rug from under her again along with Tate and Sophia. Marlena knows he doesn’t want to hurt anybody but says that’s no reason to adopt a child as that’s unfair to everyone involved since his feelings will surface eventually. Marlena tells Johnny that if he’s not 100% sure this is right for him, he has to talk to Chanel about it and they can decide what they are going to do together.

Sophia and Tate talk about how proud Felicity was. Tate wishes Aaron was there to see it. Sophia points out that Cat was there to cheer her on and how happy she was with Chanel’s flowers. Sophia talks about it being sweet that Chanel thought of them too and says they are the lucky ones since their baby is going to a great home. Sophia asks Tate to split their flowers but Tate wants her to keep them. Tate insists on thinking Sophia needs a night of fun and asks if he can convince her to be his date to the prom. Tate then takes one of the flowers and officially asks Sophia to go to prom with him. Sophia reluctantly accepts as Tate hugs her and says it’s a date. Tate then walks away, leaving Sophia with a smile.

Johnny returns home where Chanel excitedly talks about how many pictures she got of Felicity. Chanel adds that she got emotional in front of Sophia and Tate. Chanel asks Johnny if everything is okay. Johnny says not really and he doesn’t know if it’s the best time to get in to this but he also knows it can’t wait. Johnny tells Chanel that they need to talk about the adoption.

Steve gets Jada an ice cream in the town square in hopes that it will bring back happy memories because her dad used to take her to the ice cream truck every week. Jada comments on things being simpler as a kid. They rejoin Kayla and Shawn. Kayla brings up the drug for Bo. Steve reminds her that she said it wouldn’t be ready in time. Kayla says it won’t, but she thinks there’s a way she could get it to Bo before it’s too late.
