When Leslie heard Ted ordering flowers, she said she didn’t want to assume they were for her. Ted said they were for Shanice. He warned her to stop harassing Shanice. Later on, Leslie went to the hospital to flirt with Marcel. She ended up seeing the flowers Ted ordered for Shanice being delivered. Leslie picked on Shanice but it didn’t do any good. When Shanice overheard that Ted usually sends flowers to women after sex, she confronted him about it. Ted admitted that he does that. They made plans to meet later. Leslie went to Ted’s room and put her underwear behind his pillow. Jacob asked Naomi why she was researching cancer treatments when she didn’t have the BRCA gene. After Naomi left, Elon showed up to talk to Jacob about the blood case and the progress he made. Elon implied that he didn’t think Jacob could handle the case. Later on, Elon talked to Marcel about Jacob not being able to handle the case. Marcel said everyone was supportive of Jacob. He told Elon he would keep an eye on Jacob.

Jacob met with Smitty. They talked about working together on the case. Jacob was afraid that Smitty’s behavior could put them in danger. Kat talked to Nicole about being with Kial the night before. Nicole told Kat that she refused to be judged by her daughter. Carlton showed up to invite Nicole to dinner. Nicole agreed to go, but she turned down his invitation to go on an overnight date to his niece’s birthday party. Kat went to talk to Anita about her mother. Anita said Nicole was dealing with things her own way. She said Kat had better things to worry about. When Anita agreed to talk to Nicole, Kat left. Kat went to Orphey Gene’s and ran into her father. Things went well for them until he mentioned Eva. Kat walked away from him. June showed up and gave her advice about Eva. She advised Kat not to slam the door so hard that it couldn’t be reopened. Anita wanted Nicole to come over. She told Nicole that she wanted her to step in to take care of the family if things took a turn for the worst. Anita went over everything she needed to know to take over.

Anita went to chemotherapy with Sharon. While she was at the hospital, Anita’s thoughts became dark. Sophia tried to lighten her mood. Anita wanted to talk about her situation with someone other than her family. She informed Sharon that she was planning her funeral. Anita was worried about what would happen to Vernon when she died. She thought he would be brokenhearted and die after her. Sharon promised to keep Vernon going. Later Anita and Sharon returned to the Dupree mansion. Anita collapsed after they made it to the mansion. Naomi almost told Jacob that she had the BRCA Gene. Izaiah joined them, and they talked about his relationship with their father. Jacob let it slip that he was going undercover. Naomi was shocked to hear that. Later Naomi went to the hospital and told Ashley that she tested positive for the BRCA Gene. She didn’t want to tell Jacob because she didn’t want to distract Jacob from his undercover assignment.

Bill told Dani that Tomas saw them kiss each other. They talked about their marriages and kissed again. It turned out that Bill was thinking about the second kiss. Tomas snapped him back to reality. He promised not to tell anyone about seeing them kiss each other. Bill rewarded him with a junior partnership. Pamela was worried that Dani would get burned by Bill. Dani tried to downplay their kiss by saying they were caught up in memories. Bill opened her eyes, and she was in love with Andre. Leslie talked to Eva about getting back together with Ted. Shanice told Ashley that she had a great night with Ted. Eva let Leslie know that Ted was getting closer to Shanice. Leslie wasn’t happy to hear that. She stormed off to confront Shanice. After she arrived at the hospital, Leslie warned Shanice to stay away from Ted. Shanice stood her ground with Leslie. Leslie threatened Shanice. Shanice planned to have her dragged to the psych ward. Leslie decided to leave, but she threatened her before she left.

Ted took Shanice to the country club. He wanted to show her a good time. Ted assured her that she wasn’t a rebound for him. Nicole and Carlton were heating things up at their table at the country club. Ted and Nicole were with their dates, but they couldn’t take their eyes off each other. Tomas talked to Bill about Lynette’s case. It was late so Bill wanted Tomas to think about his personal life too. Tomas reminded Bill that he was working after hours too, Bill wasn’t happy about it. After Tomas left, Dani arrived at Bill’s office. She showed up with Bill’s favorite foods to celebrate their daughters’ good health. Hayley agreed to suggest that Bill and Tomas take Lynette’s case pro bono, Lance grabbed Vanessa and blamed her for destroying his marriage. Randy arrived in time to save her. He called Joey to let him know what happened to Vanessa. Later Randy met with Hayley. Since Bill’s life insurance will pay regardless of the death, Hayley was ready to step it up. She let Randy know that if the tea didn’t work, he had to kill Bill himself.

Elon went to see Joey at the casino to warn him against being in the red market blood plasma game. Joey heard about someone named “the Impaler” running the ring. He wanted him to warn Jacob that “the Impaler” isn’t someone to mess with. Jacob bought Smitty a drink to thank him for the tip about the blood plasma ring. He felt like it would help his career to solve the case. Smitty wanted to help with the investigation. Kat and Chelsea approached them and wanted to know what they were talking about. Jacob and Smitty didn’t let on what they were talking about. Kat didn’t believe them. Nicole realized that she hadn’t been with anyone since she broke up with Ted. She pulled Carlton into a passionate kiss. They flirted with each other in front of the fireplace. Ted and Shanice went to his hotel room and ended up in bed. Bill and Dani talked about her possibly getting cancer. Dani was afraid that she would lose Andre if she lost her looks. Bill didn’t think Andre would be the type of person who would leave her because she had cancer. Dani agreed with him, but she was afraid he would pity her. Bill assured her that her light would never dim. She leaned in for a kiss. Dani pulled back and felt guilty. They agreed to keep it between them. Bill noticed that Tomas was lurking in the window.

Carlton told Nicole that they should go on a real date with him. Nicole was flattered but she said she wasn’t ready to settle down with one person. She said she had a good time with Kial, but she wanted to keep seeing Carlton. Naomi talked to Dr. Ahn at the hospital. She told the doctor that she lied about her test results. Naomi said she wasn’t sure how she felt about the results or what to do next. The doctor told her to talk to a genetic counselor and a counselor. Naomi said she wasn’t ready to tell anyone. While they were talking, Nicole showed up and wanted to know what they were talking about. Dr. Ahn lied about what was going on. Kat saw Ted at Orphey Gene’s and wanted to know why he encouraged Eva to support her. She told Ted that she wouldn’t take an organ from Eva if she needed one. Kat compared Eva to cancer. Ted ripped into Kat for the way she talked about Eva. He told her Dana was a mistake but Eva wasn’t. Kat refused to see Ted’s love for Eva. She said she couldn’t look at him. Ted said he couldn’t look at her either. Later on, Kat went to Nicole’s office to tell her what happened. Nicole sided with Ted. She told Kat to move on. At the police station, Jacob noticed that Marcel had lipstick on his collar. He realized that Marcel hooked up with Leslie. Marcel told him to mind his business. Later on, Elon said there was a new case about selling plasma on the black market. Jacob volunteered to do the case. Marcel said Jacob didn’t have enough experience for the case. Elon wanted to give Jacob a chance. He warned Jacob that the case could have a huge impact on his life.

The Duprees were celebrating Chelsea and Naomi’s news about their test results. Bill wanted Dani to take care of herself. Hayley sounded insincere when she wanted Dani to take care of herself. Andre arrived at the party and made things awkward for Bill. Bill decided to leave, and Hayley followed him. Hayley spilled a drink on Bill and rushed to get a rag from the bar. While she was getting the rag, she ran into Leslie. Leslie was doing shots and made fun of Hayley. She wasn’t happy that Bill was the one working on Joey’s legal documents for the clinic. Leslie thought they could give her husband a hard time. Hayley talked to her about what was going on with Bill and Dani. Leslie advised Hayley to step up her game before it was too late.

Later Leslie arrived and wasn’t too thrilled to find out that Joey was going to name the clinic after Doug. She confronted Joey, and he showed her footage of something that meant he had control over her. He wanted her to know that he was the one in charge so he gave her the drive. Vanessa told Nicole that her daughter (Deanna) still refused to let her in, and she won’t visit her. Nicole promised her that their relationship would get better. Later Vanessa was confronted by the husband of a client. He called her wanting to know what happened.

Kat came home upset about Eva. Chelsea told her that she tested negative for the BRCA gene. She called Naomi to tell her about her results. Chelsea asked Naomi about her results. Naomi said there was nothing to worry about. She invited Chelsea to go to lunch with her and Jacob. At the club, Jacob wanted to find out the results, Naomi brushed him off. Later on, Naomi saw Bill and told him she didn’t get the results yet. When Jacob asked Naomi about the results, she told him she needed to do it on her own time. Dani and Chelsea went to the club to meet with Naomi. Everyone was confused about the test results. Dani asked Naomi if she got her test results. Naomi said she didn’t check the results. She looked disappointed when she looked at the results. Naomi told everyone the results were good. While everyone was celebrating, Naomi looked away. Ted and Shanice made out in his office. When his phone rang, it allowed him to pull away from her. He said he wanted to go on a date with her instead of having sex with her. Derek saw Ashley and Grayson flirting with each other. When Grayson went to the elevator, Derek followed him. Derek told Grayson that he knew Ashley. Later on, Derek met with Jan and told her Ashley was dating someone else. Jan went to confront Ashley about dating someone else. She told Ashley that it was too soon to be dating someone else. Ashley said she was having fun.

Hayley interrupted Bill comforting Dani. She sarcastically comforted Dani and wondered why she would see Bill in the middle of the day. When Dani left, Bill ripped into Hayley for twisting the knife about his children possibly having cancer. Hayley apologized, but Bill continued to rip into her. He said they had a reservation for lunch and didn’t want to be late. Kat and Samantha went to check on Anita to see how she was doing and to talk about dress ideas for Samantha’s dress. Vernon thought it was too much for Anita after her chemo. Dani showed up to talk to Vernon. She told him that she needed to let Bill know what was going on with her and their daughters. When Dani and Vernon went with the others, Anita agreed that it was too much for her.

Ted talked to Eva about Kat refusing to get tested. He said he would love for Eva to reach out to Kat, but he would never do that to her. Eva was willing to reach out to Kat. She ran into Kat at Orphey Gene’s and told her she would be there for her if she needed someone to talk to. Kat told her to stay out of her business and family. Eva said she reached out to her because of their father. She warned Kat that when the time comes and she did need her, she was going to throw her words in her face. Jacob talked to Derek about Naomi getting tested for the BRCA gene. He told Derek that he was afraid it would cause Naomi to shut down again. Derek said he knew they would get through anything because they were meant to be. Jacob said he didn’t believe in fate. He said a relationship worked based on trust, communication and the choices you made.

After her chemo, Anita found out Nicole tested negative for the cancer gene. She also found out Dani tested positive for the gene. Naomi and Chelsea waited to find out their results. Carlton was there for Nicole while she dealt with Dani’s situation. Vernon tried to keep Anita calm, but she didn’t want to stay home while her family was in need. Anita and Vernon went to Dani’s house. When Anita went to Dani’s room, Vernon told Andre to take care of Dani so no one else would. Anita apologized to Dani for passing on the gene to her. Dani said that was foolish because no one knew about it when she and Nicole were born. Nicole told Carlton that she was supposed to be the family fixer. He wanted her to be real with him. She said she was terrified. Carlton wanted to take Nicole back to her place. When they got home, he tried to keep her from going out of control. He let her know that he wouldn’t let her drink alone. They danced and kissed until she passed out.

Vanessa went to see Nicole. She thought that Nicole was disappointed to see her and not Carlton. Nicole explained to her what happened with the BRCA gene testing. Vanessa understood how she was feeling. She thought Nicole was the best person to help the family. Vanessa wanted her to find something constructive to do. Nicole thought Carlton was a nice guy. Vanessa felt like everyone deserved happiness. She talked about moving on with Joey. Nicole wanted to introduce her to single doctors, or she could be single. She felt like Vanessa found the most dangerous person to make her feel safe. Vanessa said that Joey trusted her the way Nicole used to. She wanted Nicole to stop predicting bad things and be happy for her. Nicole promised to do better. Vanessa wanted to go on a double date with Carlton and Joey. Nicole wasn’t sure if Carlton wanted to see her after what she did the night before. Pamela showed up at the club and saw Dani. She had pictures of Anita and Dani from past events. Dani talked to her about the results from the BRCA test. Pamela was surprised she told her about it there and not somewhere like a club. Dani wondered if her time in the spotlight was over and if it meant that she had to go in a different direction. Pamela told her that the only difference was that she was at a higher risk of getting cancer. She can be prepared for it by having knowledge. Leslie met with Joey. He wasn’t happy about being summoned. Joey told her that everything was finished with the clinic so their business was done. Leslie informed him that they were just starting. She wanted to change the name of the clinic so her name would be in the title, but he didn’t want to do that. Leslie thought he was trying to please Vanessa. He informed her that he had people killed for comments like that.

Naomi set up appointments for she and Chelsea to get tested for the BRCA gene. Cheslea wasn’t sure if she wanted to get it because she was scared for Dani. Kat reminded Chelsea that Naomi was scared too. Her way of dealing with it was by doing things. Naomi got upset when she had trouble making the appointments. It occurred to her that she had to let her father know about her mother’s test results. Chelsea said that she would tell their father the news. Kat noticed that Chelsea needed cheering up so she called Martin to talk to her. Nicole was with Dani to try to comfort her. They reminisced about their childhood. Dani didn’t want Nicole to feel guilty because she got the BRCA gene, and she didn’t. She wanted to stay strong for Naomi and Chelsea, but she couldn’t handle it if they got the gene too. Dani broke down and started crying. Nicole wanted her to have a good cry. Dani wanted to be there for the girls. Nicole told her that she wouldn’t be any good to them until she takes care of herself. Nicole went to check on Naomi and Chelsea. Naomi went to the hospital to talk to Ashley about the trouble she was having getting appointments to get tested. While they were talking, Naomi had a breakdown. Ashley thought she needed a chance to get everything out. Getting the blood tests done would be the one thing she could control. Ashley made a few phone calls and sped things up for Naomi.

Tomas talked about Lynette’s case. Hayley thought she had to look into Lynette’s credibility. Tomas corrected her and said that she had to investigate Lynette’s boss. Hayley, Tomas, and Caroline noticed that Bill seemed distracted. Bill thought about finding out that Dani, Naomi and Chelsea had to get tested for the BRCA gene. Chelsea texted him so he started looking for his keys. Bill found his keys and rushed out of the office. Later Tomas went back to the office to look for Bill. Hayley didn’t know why he left in such a hurry. She admitted that Bill didn’t talk to her about things like that. Kat texted Tomas about the BRCA gene testing. Hayley put two and two together and realized why Bill rushed off. Tomas told her that Bill cared more about his daughters than he did about Dani getting tested. She thanked Tomas for making her feel better. Hayley said privately that he could help Dani now, but she would grieve over his casket soon enough. She left a voicemail for Randy. Hayley told him about Bill putting Dani first. She talked to him about using her bag of tricks on Bill. Hayley didn’t know that Tomas was about to hear her talking. Bill showed up at Dani’s place while Nicole was still there. He wanted to see Dani. Bill rushed up to see her. Nicole saw Bill pull Dani into a hug. Dani wanted him to be with their daughters. She told him that he didn’t have to be her supporter anymore. Dani let him know that Bill wasn’t a match for the BRCA gene. Bill refused to accept that he couldn’t help her beat cancer. Andre returned home and realized that Bill was there. He found Dani in Bill’s arms. Andre interrupted them and escorted him downstairs. He wanted Bill to stay away from his wife.

Kat thanked Chelsea for the texts. She told Chelsea that she was afraid that she would have been walking into an intervention instead of a party. Chelsea told Kat that their mothers were getting their results. Kat felt bad that Nicole didn’t feel the need to tell her about the results. After Kat talked to Nicole, she said she wanted things to go back to the way they were. Nicole went to Martin and Smitty’s place to wait for the results. Carlton called to check on her. When Nicole said they were dating, Martin said it was too soon for her to jump into a relationship. She thought he was being loyal to his father. While they were talking, she got an alert that her test results were ready. She found out she’s not a carrier for the BRCA gene. Naomi went to Dani’s place. Nicole called to say she didn’t have the BRCA gene. Naomi checked Dani’s portal. Dani was able to tell what it said based on the expression on Naomi’s face. She told Nicole that Naomi and Chelsea were going to have to get tested. Nicole left Martin and Smitty’s place. Naomi tried to comfort Dani. Naomi went to Chelsea and Kat’s place to tell them Dani had the BRCA gene. Kat said she would be there for them. Anita wanted Vernon to be with their daughters instead of going to chemo with her. Vernon let her know he was going with her. Martin called Vernon and told him Dani and Nicole’s test results. When Anita woke up, she asked Vernon about the girls’ test results. Before Anita started chemo, she wanted to plan for one last meal since she didn’t know if she would be able to eat tomorrow. Vernon didn’t like her talking like that. He wanted to join her because there was no way she was dealing with it alone. Anita found out that Nicole and Dani were getting their test results tomorrow. She was upset that she wasn’t going to be with them when they got their results. Anita had an idea and left to get supplies. Kat was concerned about purse production delays during the Awards season, but Chelsea was worried about what was going on with the family. Chelsea was upset about the way Kat was handling things because she couldn’t stand the idea of losing her. While they were arguing, Tomas came in. Chelsea told Tomas to talk some sense into Kat and before she left. Tomas let Kat know that he wasn’t going to do anything but he understood her family’s concern. Kat cried in his arms and wished they could let her pretend this didn’t exist. Vernon and Anita called the family, but Kat wanted to spend time with Tomas. When the family went to the Duprees’ house, Anita reminded them about how much they loved New Orleans. She said they wanted to bring New Orleans to Fairmont Crest. When the celebration started, Anita reminded everyone that things were going to get harder tomorrow, but tonight they were going to celebrate. Everyone tried to reach out to Kat, but she turned her phone off. During the celebration, Anita let her family know she was going to allow them to dote on her, but she wanted them to care for each other.

Tracy went to see Anita. Anita tried to keep her spirits up and avoid talking about cancer. Tracy said she knew Anita was feeling guilty about possibly passing on the BRCA gene to her family. Anita was offended and yelled at her. Tracy told her to stop pretending that it would be easy and that she had everything under control. Anita said she would be weak but this wasn’t the day. She said she wanted to live for now. Anita said she was going to fight it. When Vernon came home, he heard Anita yelling at Tracy. She told Tracy about the things she wanted to do and see. When Anita threw a cup across the room, Tracy said she was glad that Anita wasn’t repressing her feelings. Vernon said Anita didn’t need to protect them. He said it wasn’t just happening to her. It was happening to all of them because they loved her. They made a vow to get through this.

Joey and Marcel talked about being responsible for Doug’s death. Nicole talked to Vanessa about possibly having the BRCA gene. She told Vanessa that others weren’t as lucky as her family was to have access to good health care. Nicole said she would donate more to cancer research and would pay it forward if Anita survived. Joey told Marcel that the evidence pointing to them was gone. He told Marcel that Vanessa was better off without Doug. Vanessa called Joey and told him she needed to meet him. Joey told Marcel to watch out for Vanessa and keep her safe. When Vanessa met with Joey, she told him she was concerned about Nicole. She asked Joey to take Leslie up on her offer of the free clinic. Joey didn’t want to do it. Vanessa told him about the lives they could save. She said they could honor Doug’s life. Joey agreed to meet with Leslie.

Leslie went to Joey’s club to see if he would work with her to fund the clinic. He agreed to work with her, but he wanted something in return. Joey wanted her to name the clinic after Doug. Leslie thought he felt guilty about what he did to Doug by racking up his gambling debt and sleeping with his wife. Joey wanted honor the father of Vanessa’s children. Leslie preferred to name a room after Doug instead of the clinic. Later Vanessa found out that Joey decided to fund the clinic. She promised that he wouldn’t regret it. Leslie met with Marcel at Uptown. He warned her about getting into business with Joey. Marcel warned her that Joey wasn’t someone she should cross. She told him that she wasn’t either. He thought she should make sure that Joey funds the clinic with clean money. Randy walked in and saw them kiss. At the hospital, Ashley noticed Shanice and Ted flirting with each other. Ashley wanted details about their relationship. Shanice admitted that she and Ted kissed on New Year’s Eve. Ashley wondered why she was pushing Ted to be with Nicole. Shanice told her to check on Nicole and Dani’s test results. Ted ran into Vernon at the hospital. He offered to make calls on Anita’s behalf. Dani and Nicole talked about going to their exes about the BRCA genes news. They agreed to be there for their father. Shanice arrived to draw blood from the sisters. Ted and Andre met at the country club. Andre was afraid that Anita’s news could draw Dani back into Bill’s arms. Ted advised him to put Bill in his place if he doesn’t stay in his lane. Tomas helped Kat deal with her hangover. When she felt better he let her know that Bill told him that she could carry the BRCA gene. Kat let him know that she wasn’t getting tested. Tomas wanted her to lean on him to get through the tough situation. Kat let him know that she needed to get through it alone before she could rely on someone else. Chelsea talked to Madison to find out the cold facts about Anita’s situation. Madison explained how the disease affects black women at a higher rate. Women who have the BRCA gene could get breast and ovarian cancer. Men could get prostate and pancreatic cancer. Madison told Chelsea that she might not get the gene even if her mother tested positive for it. She told her that early detection was the key. Madison admitted that her aunt lost her cancer battle because she listened to her mother’s advice instead of the oncologist.

Naomi talked to Jacob about her fears about Anita’s condition. They were at Orphey Gene’s and saw Marcel and Leslie flirting with each other. Naomi and Jacob were appalled by what they saw. Jacob warned Marcel about getting together with Leslie. Marcel and Leslie left Orphey Gene’s and went to a hotel room. They ended up hitting the sheets. Jacob assured Naomi that he was there for her. He didn’t want to leave her side. Later Naomi and Chelsea met with Kat. Kat told them that Martin said he had a congressional meeting, but he was really stress-eating with Smitty. While they were talking, Kat shut down when they talked about their mothers getting tested. Chelsea told Kat about Madison’s story, but she refused to get tested. They got news that Nicole and Dani were tested and waiting for their results.

Ted asked Shanice how he should be there for his family if they carried the BRCA gene. Shanice advised him to be there for his children and Nicole even though they’re divorced. At Uptown, a drunk Kat told Tomas that her grandmother had breast cancer. Tomas tried to comfort Kat. She refused to tell him about the BRCA gene. When Ted called, Kat ignored the call. Ted told Shanice that he wanted to change Kat’s mind about getting tested, but he didn’t know how to do it because of their rocky relationship. Shanice said he would know what to do when the time was right. Tomas took Kat home. Kat told him to go to the office. After Tomas left, Ted showed up. Ted said he was there to comfort her and be there for her if she decided to get tested. Kat said she would always need her father. Martin told Smitty what was going on with Anita. Smitty offered to get in touch with a doctor at a cancer center. He thought the doctor could get Kat to change her mind about not getting tested.

Bill went with Dani to the Dupree mansion. Vernon told Dani about bringing Bill over. Dani said Bill wanted to express his sympathy. She said Naomi and Chelsea needed both of their parents. Bill talked to Anita alone. He said he felt helpless and vulnerable after he had his stroke. Bill suggested that she accept any help that was offered to her. He said she should be selfish because no one would think less of her. Bill said people wanted to help her. When Tomas went back to the office, Hayley called him out for not working hard enough. Tomas said some things were more important than work. Bill showed up and understood Tomas’ situation. Hayley ripped into Bill which led him to tell her what was going on. She said she regretted how she was acting. Dani checked on Vernon. Vernon said he didn’t know how to fight this. Dani said he didn’t know how to do other things, but he did it. She said he wouldn’t be alone because his daughters would be by his side. Vernon cried in her arms.

Vernon called Nicole and Dani and told them to come by the house. They showed up at the mansion. Anita told them that she had cancer. She said it was a triple negative cancer. Anita said it was aggressive and had a high rate of recurrence. Vernon told Andre what was going on with Anita. He asked Andre to be there for Dani. Later on, Vernon went to the mansion when Anita told Nicole and Dani that the cancer could be passed along. They agreed to get tested. Later on, Dani told Andre that she was going to have to tell Bill because he was going to be worried about their daughters. Joey and Vanessa spend time together at the club. He didn’t care if society didn’t want them to be together and asked if he passed the test. Joey said he shut down when his wife died, but Vanessa stole his heart. While Ted and Shanice were talking, Leslie showed up and interrupted them. Leslie told Ted about the progress the clinic was making and said he should be on the committee. She tried to convince him that they should work together with their daughter, but Ted wasn’t interested. He told her that she was spreading false rumors about Vernon having an affair. After he was finished ripping into her, he walked away. Ted and Shanice went to have dinner together. She suggested that he move on with his life. When the ball dropped, Ted kissed Shanice. Leslie got a text from Marcel asking if she wanted to get together.

Anita had another check-up. Vernon went to the appointment with her. She admitted that she put on a brave front, but she was afraid. Vernon reminded her about the things they’ve overcome throughout the years. He assured her that everything would be fine. The doctor came in the room and told Anita that they had to move quickly because the cancer was spreading fast. He didn’t know what her survival rate would be, but he wanted to talk about how they were going to fight the cancer. The doctor talked to her about getting chemotherapy and a lumpectomy. Anita was terrified by the options. Vernon refused to let her deal with it alone. He pulled her closer to her as the doctor talked to her. They made promises to each other while the doctor discussed when she could get the surgery. He wanted her to have the surgery next week. Anita realized that the family had to find out the truth. Isiah wanted Eva to be his girlfriend. Eva wasn’t sure if he was over Yolonda yet. She wanted them to get to know each other better. They make love and want to spend New Year’s together.

Leslie arrived at the casino to talk to Joey. She had an offer he couldn’t refuse. Leslie wanted him to fund the free clinic. He wondered why she wanted him to join her in funding a free clinic. Joey didn’t want to be respectable. He wondered why she needed that validation. She wanted him to consider working with her. Dani and Vanessa were at Uptown. They noticed the new bartender. Dani wanted him to be a model, and Vanessa wanted him to be an escort for her. The bartender turned down both of them. Joey showed up so Dani left. Vanessa thought he should take Leslie up on her offer. Nicole invited Carlton to have lunch with her at the club. They caught up on things while they were eating. Nicole and Carlton agreed to spend New Year’s together. They sealed the agreement with a kiss.

Bill drank the poisoned cocktail. Hayley suggested they go to St. Barts to open their gifts. Bill told her the owners backed out of the deal. Hayley refused to be shunned. Bill said she should have known how it was going to turn out when she went after her best friend’s father. Hayley reminded him that he pursued her. An upset Hayley walked out on him and told him this would be what it was like to be without her. Hayley went to the club and saw Joey. He told her to get Bill to pursue the governorship because it would put her in a powerful position. Bill sent her a text telling her he wasn’t feeling well. She left the club. When she got home, she realized Bill wasn’t really sick. He told her he wanted her home so he could make it clear to her that she was important to him. Hayley didn’t believe him. Bill said he opened up to her more than he did Dani.

Anita told Vernon that she was diagnosed with cancer. She told him about what she was going through. Vernon realized she was going through this alone. Anita told him that Tracy and Sharon knew because she needed her sisters. Vernon wanted to know why she shut him out of something important. Anita apologized and said she didn’t know how to do cancer. Vernon apologized for not being there with her. He said he was scared of losing her. Vernon assured her that it was their fight. He said they should tell the children, but Anita didn’t want to. She didn’t want to ruin Christmas. Vernon said she beat the odds all her life and would do it again. Anita said this would be the best Christmas ever. Nicole laughed at Ted when he said Vernon was having an affair. She was upset about the accusation but wanted more details. Nicole started to think the information was true until he said Leslie told him. She left to see Dani. Nicole told Dani about Ted’s accusation. Dani didn’t believe that their father cheated on their mother. While they were talking, they started to think it was possible. They wanted to go to their house and demand answers, but decided against doing it.

Anita wanted to create the perfect Christmas day for her family. Sharon and Tracey arrived at the house. Anita told them that she didn’t want to tell her family about her cancer diagnosis until after Christmas. Nicole arrived and made shady comments to Sharon. Kat went to Ted’s hotel to bring him a pizza. She knew he would want to watch football. Leslie arrived hoping to be with Ted, but she was let down. He told her that they would be friends. Ted sent her on her way. Leslie went into the hallway and saw Shanice arrive at Ted’s place. She stayed to find out why she was there. Shanice said that she made cheesecake for her friends. Ted wanted to know if that meant they were friends. Shanice let him know they were friends for now. They began enjoying pizza and cheesecake. Their bond was getting stronger.

The rest of the Duprees showed up at the Dupree mansion, and everyone was in a festive mood. Vernon informed Anita that she would cry when she opened her gift. He was right because she started crying when she saw the photo Andre had restored. The family exchanged gifts, and Nicole looked at her father suspiciously. Nicole pulled Dani aside and told her that they had to tell their mother the truth. Dani didn’t want to hurt their mother, but Nicole thought it would be better coming from them. Anita walked up and interrupted their conversation. They were going to tell her the truth when they were interrupted by singing. Everyone was surprised to hear Vernon singing at the piano. Vernon admitted that he was getting professional singing lessons from Sharon. He began singing “Never Can Say Goodbye,” and Anita became emotional. Anita and Vernon stared into each other’s eyes as they prepared for what was coming.

Dr. Ahn informed Anita that her cancer is aggressive and difficult to treat. She suggested that Anita tell Vernon the truth so he could support her. Later Anita went to Uptown to get her mind right about the news she received. Tracey and Sharon showed up there to support her. They promised to be by her side. Dani wanted to have a great tree that would rival Martin and Smitty’s. June showed up at Martin and Smitty’s house. She gave Trey and Samantha ornaments that she gave them when they were babies. Kat showed up to the house to help Martin and Smitty trim the tree. Eva was there too, but she felt ignored. Smitty had a surprise for everyone. He invited June’s sister to the house. Regina realized that June did the right thing by giving up her children. She wanted June to come home with her for Christmas.

Dani’s party was underway. Nicole showed up without a date. Jacob and Naomi didn’t show up together because they weren’t speaking. Naomi wasn’t speaking to him because she didn’t like her present. The monkey he bought her represented the trip he planned for them. He wanted to take her to Mexico. Naomi apologized to him, and they were on the same page. Hayley, Lynette, and Randy met up and talked about old times. They talked about the cons they used to do together. While they were talking, Lynette told them there was no loyalty in the con game. Randy thought Lynette had a motive for being in the DMV. Lynette said Bill was the only one who could get her out of the embezzlement charges. Hayley didn’t believe her. Randy and Hayley agreed to keep an eye on Lynette and work well as a team. Hayley left to meet with Bill. Dani and Bill saw each other at the club. They insulted each other’s spouses. After they finished arguing, they talked about past holidays. There was a flashback of Dani telling Bill that she was pregnant. Hayley showed up and was upset about Bill being with Dani. When Hayley and Bill sat for dinner, he told her he wanted her to get off the pill so they could have a family.

Anita wanted to tell Vernon something, but Andre arrived. Vernon and Andre talked about Anita’s Christmas gift. While Anita and Andre were alone, he opened up to her about not liking the holidays because happy families reminded him of his late parents. Anita said he was a part of their family now. She said his parents would be proud of him. At Uptown, Marcel told Leslie that he wasn’t on the Dupree clock so he wanted to be with her. He flirted with Leslie until he realized that he must have misread the signals. While they were talking, Marcel told her his wife wanted a divorce. Leslie told him she only loved one man and she wasn’t going to get involved with someone less than she deserved. Marcel said he wasn’t like any man she met. He kissed her.
