THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!
[soft dramatic music]
Brady. [laughs] Did Marlena tell you I stopped by?
Marlena? No. No, no, no. I wanted to see you for myself.
You did?
Yeah. Yeah, I had just gotten done telling Tate what a wonderful and selfless thing you did for Sarah.
Ah! That’s why my ears were burning.
[laughs]
Yeah. It’s too bad it was all a lie.
A lie? Brady, come on. What are you talking about–
Don’t! Don’t! Don’t– don’t pull the innocent act, OK? I talked to Sarah. She told me everything.
So my gamble paid off.
What gamble was that, Mother?
I made a well-timed call to , and Vivian was arrested. It was pretty spectacular. I heard she actually lunged for the officer’s gun and fell flat on her face.
Sorry I missed it.
Mm. Well, that makes two of us. Anyway, she’s now in jail, and she hasn’t said a word about the letter, which means our secret may stay safe. No one will be the wiser.
[relaxed music]
Huh.
Steve.
Hey.
What’s your poison?
Well, uh, is it too early for champagne?
[laughs]
OK, give me a cup of coffee.
Guess if I have to celebrate Vivian Alamain’s arrest with a cup of joe, so be it. I take it you heard.
Yeah. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer human being. Although I do have to admit that, uh, part of me was kind of disappointed, though. You know? I half expected her to try to make a great escape, you know? Go off into a blaze of glory, vanish into thin air. But then, I guess time has a way of catching up to all of us.
Ain’t that the truth.
So what’s on your plate today?
Well, I’m gonna see Chad in a little while. I’m pretty worried about him. But who isn’t, right?
Yeah. With everything he’s been through, I’m sure he had a few things to say when he found out that Weston is in the wind.
Yeah. He was plenty upset. But the craziest thing, Weston called him right when I was in the middle of breaking the news.
You’re kidding me. What the hell did he want?
That’s a damn good question.
[ominous music]
[siren blaring]
Chad, you wanted to see me.
hours ago, I asked you to drop the charges against Cat Greene. Why am I still waiting?
[sigh] Allow me to answer your question with one of my own.
Why in the world would you make such an insane request?
[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”
I don’t know what Sarah told you.
Ah. Maybe the truth?
Oh, Brady, you sure about that? I mean, it is a tall order, uh, coming from a woman who lied about her daughter’s paternity, a woman who fabricated an entire scenario about you being behind the wheel of the car that ran her over. You think anything she says passes the sniff test?
She’s not lying, Kristen.
Huh. How can you be so sure?
Because if she is lying, so is Maggie.
[soft dramatic music] Yeah. Yeah, she was there. She pretty much confirmed everything Sarah said. So let’s just stop with the embarrassing charade, all right? Just admit to me that you weren’t gonna give Sarah the serum out of the goodness of your heart. You were gonna use it as leverage to force Xander to give you Titan.
Yeah, look– look, I’ll call you back. Something’s come up. OK, bye.
No, wait. Mother, I–
[sighs].
My head writer. The stories that he’s writing, I don’t know how he does it. I mean, it’s incredible. He’s gonna have millions of people on the edge of their seats, their jaws open, screaming all over the web. So you better not have been eavesdropping, because if I hear anything on social media–
Uh-huh. Even if I were hard up for the cash, that’s hardly my style.
Hmm. OK. So, um, if you’re not here for gossip, why did you drop by?
I told you to get your son to back off, but for some strange reason, he’s still blocking the deal I’m trying to make with Kristen. – I see.
So I was thinking, why don’t we get him on the phone right now and you can tell him to cease and desist ordering me to cease and desist?
You see, that’s not going to happen, Xander. I am wholeheartedly supportive of my son and absolutely everything he does to save his father’s company.
Cat Greene has caused you nothing but grief since the moment she caught you in her crosshairs. My God. She spent months manipulating you, convincing you that she was your dead wife.
Look, you’re not telling me anything I don’t know.
Chad, she manipulated you, used your precious memories to lure you to Paris to marry her, all so she could take your money.
Yeah, I know exactly what she did and why. I don’t need to be reminded.
[sigh] Then humor me, then. Why in the name of everything sane would you want me to drop the charges against her?
Because Clyde asked me to.
[ominous music]
Fine. Yes. I– I made a deal with Xander for the serum, but it was only because Sarah lied. You would have never been behind bars if it wasn’t for her.
I’m not gonna argue the ethics of that deal, OK? I want to talk about the unconscionable one that you made. When I was released, you told me that you were gonna hand the serum over to Xander and want nothing in return. Then I find out that you were trying to force him to give you Titan? Titan? Why did you leave out that little detail? Didn’t you think that I was gonna learn that eventually?
[soft dramatic music]
I just– I figured we’d– I’d cross that bridge when it– when I came–
You’d cross it? Oh–
Yes, I figured–
Kristen, come on!
When I came to it. Come on. No, I really had no choice, Brady. I have to prove myself to the board.
To the– to the board?
Yes, they micromanage every detail. I have to justify every decision. They– they dissect every deal. I am under a microscope, scrutinized like a tormented butterfly. I needed something to– to shore up their faith in me, show them exactly who they’re dealing with. So, yes, I needed Titan.
I see. I see. So– so the whole time, this was just all about business, right?
That’s– that’s preposterous! No!
Right. You’re right. No, no, no. It wasn’t just about business. It was about a multitude of things like greed and power and money, right? But most importantly, what this was all about was you.
There are none so blind. No, Brady. I didn’t do it for me. I was doing it for you.
Sarah, I– I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to intrude.
Oh. No, no worries at all. I’m just picking up after the whirling dervish that is my child.
Gotcha. Is your mother around, by any chance?
I don’t believe she is. Is there something you wanted to talk to her about?
Her wedding anniversary with my father is today. Thought I’d stop by, see how she’s doing.
That’s very sweet. Well, you’re welcome to wait.
In here?
Unless that’s a problem?
Not for me, but, Sarah, I’m sure I’m not your favorite person right now. How could I be, since it’s because of me you don’t have that serum?
Actually, I understand.
Really?
Yeah, really. Personally, I am not thrilled at all about Xander handing over the company to get that serum. And as much as I would like to walk again… he’s the one that’s pushing Kristen to hand it over. It’s– it’s like he would do anything to get his hands on it.
Guess that explains why he tried to murder me yesterday.
[ominous music] – Oh, this is rich. I knew it. Of course, you support Philip trying to usurp my position at Titan, cheating me out of my rightful inheritance.
The only reason Philip wasn’t in his father’s will is because he was forced to fake his death.
Right. After he tried to frame Brady for murder. Not exactly circumstances outside of his control.
Well, Victor didn’t seem to hold that against him. I mean, he made that abundantly clear in the letter he sent to Philip, now, didn’t he?
So you just have no problem keeping Sarah from getting the serum that could restore her ability to walk?
My concern is for my son, and he deserves a portion of his father’s legacy.
Then I hope it’s worth squandering your own.
[chuckles] So what does that mean?
Time to change your tune, Kate. Consider a rewrite. Otherwise, this lively little soap opera of yours will be DOA before it even hits the airwaves.
[ominous music]
[relaxed music]
OK, hold on. You’re telling me that Chad didn’t tell you why Clyde called him?
Probably, he said he just called to gloat. But the way he was acting–
What? You didn’t believe him?
Well, I did get the feeling he was hiding something.
[ominous music]
So you spoke to Clyde.
He called me yesterday.
From where? Did he mention anything about his location?
No. But I wasn’t trying to track him down. I’ll leave that to the cops. I want him to tell me where Abigail’s remains were. He said he would tell me on one condition.
That you would get the charges against Cat Greene dropped.
But why would he give a damn about that woman? I mean, she obviously failed to get your share of the DiMera millions for him, so why would he want to help her?
He doesn’t want to help her. He wants her head on a pike.
[sigh] I don’t get it. Why would Chad keep anything that Clyde Weston told him a secret?
[relaxed music]
To get information. You know, ever since Abigail’s body went missing from her grave, Chad has been obsessed with finding out where she is. And that woman, Cat Greene, said that she had no idea where Abigail’s remains were, so maybe Chad is hoping to get information from Weston.
Yeah, but I can’t imagine that Clyde is being that forthcoming.
No. Chad said the bastard wouldn’t give him anything. I mean, why would he unless there was something in it for him?
Right. Steve, do you think that maybe that is what Chad is hiding? Do you think that maybe he and Clyde made some kind of deal where Chad gives him something in return for the information?
[ominous music]
So Clyde told you to bring him Cat Greene’s head on a pike in exchange for telling you where Abigail’s body is?
Yep. But he’s not gonna get that.
Oh.
So if I’m understanding correctly, it’s OK with you that the man who brutally murdered your wife retain possession of her remains. And if you’re not going to give her to Clyde, why are you trying to get Cat Greene released? Don’t– don’t– don’t you want her to pay for what she’s done?
Xander tried to kill you?
I found him in here, by himself, talking to our father’s portrait, saying how the only way to prevent me from blocking his deal was to murder me.
Well, I– I’m sure he didn’t mean that. People make idle threats all the time.
True, they do. But you’re married to him. You know all about his past. Is he the kind of man who makes idle threats?
Our father kept a gun in the safe over there…
And when Xander got a hold of it, he pointed it at me.
I– I’m sure that he wouldn’t– he wouldn’t have shot you. He never– he– he couldn’t.
That’s what I thought…
[chuckles]
Until he pulled the trigger.
[tense music] If that gun had been loaded, I’d be a dead man.
So you’re saying that if Philip continues to block your outrageous claims…
I will buy whatever third rate streaming service airs your dog and pony show and make it my first cancelation.
[ominous music]
You wouldn’t.
Oh, I would. I will, actually. Unless you get Philip to drop this injunction. If you don’t help me get my hands on this revitalizing serum, “Body & Soul” is gonna need it even more than Sarah does.
[soft dramatic music]
So you were demanding Titan in exchange for the serum, and you were doing it for me? I don’t understand. I don’t get it.
Come on, Brady. Isn’t it obvious? Once Basic Black is no longer controlled by Titan, but rather under my control, you work for me at DiMera, and I will hand over Basic Black to you where you will have free reign, of course.
So you– you demanded that Xander hand over his multinational, giant corporation, just so I could be in charge of one division of it.
It’s not that crazy, is it?
[laughs] I mean, DiMera– DiMera is a family business. You’re my family, you and Rachel. This is how we build a legacy, the three of us, to cement our future together, Brady–
As a– as a– as a family.
Yeah. I mean, it isn’t out of the question, is it? I mean, you and I– I mean, we’ve been getting closer over the past few months, haven’t we? And I have on good authority that our beautiful daughter, she is the number one fan of a forever family.
Kristen, Kristen. Kris–
No, no, I know. I know. I know how this must sound. I know this is coming out of the blue. It’s not what you expect. But…
[sigh] Yes, we’ve struggled in the past. We did, but when it was good between us, Brady, it was magical. It was perfect. So for our daughter’s sake and for ours, shouldn’t we try to just work on this again? We can fix this. I know we can. And I’m willing to put in the work if– if you are.
Family is important. I agree. But Victor is my family, and his nightmare would be to have Titan under DiMera control. I won’t be a part of it.
OK, but Brady, just listen–
No, you– Kristen, you listen to me. This fantasy that you have, the three of us are gonna be together and be this happy family living happily ever after, it’s not going to happen. Definitely not under these circumstances.
But there are circumstances under which it could, under which we could be a family again.
Are you saying, Brady, that– that if I didn’t do this, if I– if I didn’t demand Titan for the serum, that we could be together?
Uh, Philip, I– I’m– sorry is not adequate enough. I– I don’t know what to say.
Xander’s the one who crossed the line. You’ve done nothing wrong, Sarah.
Ah, I’m afraid I’ll have to run. No rest for the weary. You know how it is.
Of course.
[sighs] Listen, I really like you, Sarah, so no matter how I feel about Xander, I want you to know– well, the last thing I want is to make things between you and your husband more stressful than I’m sure they already are.
I just want you to know that you are not alone in thinking he’s acting irrationally when it comes to that serum. And honestly, that’s why I’m so concerned.
Look, I’m just trying to protect my father’s legacy, which is what he obviously wanted. He wanted me to have a hand in running Titan, so I need to fulfill his wishes. What kind of son would I be if I failed him?
It’s what he wanted, or else you wouldn’t have written that letter.
Take care, Sarah.
So you would actually cancel my show?
You’re damn right I would. I’d shelve it the moment the streaming service became mine. Call it a tax write-off or something. These companies do it all the time. I mean, if it could happen to “Batgirl,” it could happen to you.
And you actually think buying a streaming service is as easy as grabbing a carton of milk?
Well, it’s not like I don’t have the capital.
You don’t. Titan does. And as a businesswoman, I am well aware of the uncertainties that Philip’s letter presents, and that you’re bluffing. And if that toothless bluff is indicative of your business acumen, then my son is actually doing you a favor by relieving you of your duties. So why don’t you just let Philip run the multinational conglomerate, OK? I’m sure there’s other things you could find to do to occupy your time.
This isn’t over.
Hey, whoa, whoa. Wait, wait. You know, actually, “Body & Soul” is scouting for a big, dumb hunk. You don’t have to do much. Just stand around shirtless with a vacant look in your eye. I think you could more than fill that bill.
Damn you, Kate.
Of course, I want Cat to pay for what she did to me. Not just to me, but to everyone who ever loved Abigail. What she did was cruel, unconscionable, and should earn her a special place in hell. No one is angrier at her than me.
Then why do you want the woman released? From what you’ve told me, her only use to you outside of a prison cell is as a bargaining chip for your late wife’s remains, and you’ve already made it clear that you have no intent on using her in that manner.
I never said that.
You admitted that to me just mere minutes ago.
No. I said I wouldn’t let Clyde kill her. As much as I don’t feel one iota of sympathy for that woman, I don’t want her blood on my hands. I don’t want her to die. But I’m not above using her to get what I want.
[tense music]
So the plan is?
So plan is to… make Clyde think I’m willing to make the trade. And then when the time comes, I’ll make damn sure he doesn’t get what he wants.
Well, here’s the thing. I heard Chad’s side of the conversation, and he didn’t say anything that gave me the impression that he was making any kind of deal with Weston. He just told him to go to hell and then hung up.
[relaxed music] But now I’m thinking–
What? What do you think?
Chad was really uneasy with me after that call.
Yeah, I’m thinking he was definitely hiding something.
Wait a minute. I asked Chad who was calling right after he answered. Now, what if Weston heard me and knew I was there?
Your point?
I was looking right at Chad when he told Weston to go to hell. And it was like– I don’t know. It was like he was saying it for my benefit.
So then?
So then, if Chad had made some kind of deal with Weston… to find out where Abigail’s remains were, what if that “go to hell” meant, “I’ll do anything you want”? What if Chad was speaking in code? – So you’ll keep Clyde from killing Cat, and then what? Clyde will just tell you where Abigail’s body is out of the goodness of his heart?
What I’ll do is I will go through the motions, and I’ll make him think I’m holding up my end of the bargain, and then I’ll get him to tell me where Abigail is.
Right. OK. And after that, Clyde will just let you and Cat skip away, arm in arm, happy in the knowledge that he’s done a good deed?
OK, you know what, EJ? You don’t think I’ve thought this through? You don’t think I know there isn’t risk involved in this? I get it. He’s a homicidal maniac, but he has my wife, and I’m willing to do whatever I have to do to get Abigail’s remains from him, whatever it takes.
[ominous music]
No. No, Kristen. I’m not saying that if you give Sarah the serum and expect nothing in return that you, Rachel, and I are…
[snaps] going to be a happy family.
What am I missing?
What I’m saying to you is that if you give Sarah the serum and you still demand Titan for it, there’s not a chance that we’re going to be able to be a family again. You can’t– you can’t profit from restoring Sarah’s ability to walk. That’s a deal breaker. That’s awful. There would be no family. There’d be no us. And you could kiss any idea of us ever getting back together goodbye.
We have to talk. We have a problem.
Only one?
Xander came by to see me.
Definitely a problem.
Mm-hmm. He was hurling threats about getting my show canceled…
[sighs] Obviously trying to panic me. But it wasn’t about me. He is not gonna back down, Philip. He’s going to do everything he can to undermine you.
Let him. I’m doing the same thing to him. Like brother, like brother.
There’s one of my two favorite girls. Mm. Well, I’d ask how you’re doing, but, uh–
Philip was just here.
Was he?
Mm-hmm.
[dramatic music] He said that you tried to kill him.
No. I mean, he’s exaggerating.
OK. Yeah. So you– you didn’t aim a gun at him.
I mean, yes, technically. But in my defense, it wasn’t even loaded, so–
And did you know that it wasn’t loaded when you aimed it at him and pulled the trigger?
See, Xander, that’s exactly what I was afraid of.
Sarah, you weren’t there. You don’t understand.
Actually, I do. I do understand. I do.
He was goading me. He wanted me to do it. He was asking for it.
Xander, this has to stop, OK? First Brady, now Philip. When is this insane obsession with vengeance going to end?
[phone beeps]
[relaxed music]
Well, I’ll be damned.
What you got?
EJ dropped all the charges against Cat Greene.
What? After everything she did to Chad, why in the hell would EJ let her skate like that?
I have no idea. I guess Chad didn’t raise any objections.
All right. Putting that together with the way Chad was acting so secretive after Clyde’s call–
Why do I get the feeling that this whole thing is playing out exactly like that son of a bitch wants it to?
[ominous music]
For the record, I don’t like this. I think it’s dangerous.
Yeah. You’ve been crystal clear where you stand. I think I’ve been clear too, but I’m going through with it. I owe it to Abby.
[exhales sharply] Paulina Price will be demanding my head on a platter when she hears what I’ve done.
So you’re doing it? You’re going to let Cat go?
You’re my brother. I’ll drop the charges.
[soft dramatic music]
Thank you.
She’s being released as we speak. I just need to bring her up.
Be careful.
Xander tried to kill you?
OK, to be fair, I took the gun from the safe and may or may not have provoked him into it.
Oh, come on, like that Neanderthal needed provocation.
My point is, when I shared the story with Sarah, I may have forgotten to mention that part.
Yeah, but you mentioned the most important part, that her husband is a would-be killer, that he’s the same amoral bastard he’s always been.
Right. And I figured since my brother and I are taking sibling rivalry to an epic and potentially catastrophic level, what’s the harm in adding a smidge of marital discord to the mix?
Sarah. My insane obsession with vengeance, as you call it, won’t end till I’ve made everyone pay for what they’ve done to you. I– I love you, Sarah. You and Victoria, you’re my life. And it’s just killing me to see you hurt in this way and to know that my own mother caused you so much pain. And now my own brother won’t even let you get the help that you need.
So you’ll just keep going around and causing other people pain and maybe even killing them to make them pay? Well, that’s great. Yeah. I’m sure we’ll live happily ever after once you’re finished doing to life.
Well, maybe Justin can plead it down–
Xander, stop! I’m being serious. We can’t live this way. This is not who we are. Why can’t you see that me being able to walk again isn’t worth taking somebody else’s life, or throwing away your own?
Sorry. I hope I’m not interrupting.
Hi, Brady.
Something you need to know. You recall that Kristen was demanding Titan in exchange for the serum? Well, I– I went to see her, and I– I tried to reason with her. Tried to get her to drop that demand.
Well, Father… I think you would have been very proud of your granddaughter’s father today. The ever honorable Brady Black, well, he gave me an ultimatum. He forced me to choose between being noble and being mercenary, between love and money.
And in other words… I really hope I made the right choice.
Thanks for trying, Brady, but let me guess. After Kristen finished insulting you, she turned you down flat. Wouldn’t give up her demand for Titan in exchange for the serum.
No, she actually didn’t insult me, and she didn’t turn me down.
[tender music]
I believe this belongs to you.
