THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!
[phone beeps] [dramatic music]
No. Can’t do it.
Well, there you are. I thought I heard you come in.
Grandma, hi.
Hi, hi. [sighs] So did you see Eric?
Yeah, I did.
And how did it go?
It went OK. I basically just told him everything that happened with my mom. And I also forgave him for what he did to my father.
Oh, sweetheart, I am so glad, and not just because I know how relieved Eric must have been. But, you know, hanging on to all this anger can only end up hurting you too.
Yeah, you’re right. It does kind of feel good to be forgiving.
Yeah.
I just hope–
What do you hope?
I just hope that Tate realizes that, too, and that he can forgive me.
Dad? Grandma?
Doesn’t seem like anyone’s home.
Yeah, I guess not. So…looks like we have the place to ourselves.
[chuckles] [light music]
Hey, sis.
Hey, brother of mine. I need a coffee.
You sure you don’t need something stronger?
Well, I’d like that, but then I’d sit down in this chair, and I’d never get up. And I have things to do, and I need to stay awake.
OK, coffee it is.
Thank you.
Long day at the hospital?
Yes, it was. But it always is these days. And that is not what has me worn out.
Yeah. No, I’m sure it’s the situation with– with Chad and Steve and the Abigail imposter. I can’t stop thinking about it.
I know; I just feel so bad for Chad and Jack and Jennifer. I mean, I don’t even know if they know yet that their daughter is not, in fact, alive. I mean, Jennifer always suspected that she wasn’t, but…[sighs]
Yeah, I know. I know. But right now, I’m just hoping that maybe they find out what happened in Paris. I mean, thank God Steve got there in time to save Chad.
Yes, thank God. But still, it’s a lot to process. I mean, this woman pretended to be Abigail for months. Not to mention, a doctor on my staff was in cahoots with her.
Yeah, well, those two fooled a lot of people.
They sure did. Well, I am relieved that they are behind bars, where they should be. [sighs]
[crickets chirping] [tense music]
Chad.
When the guard said I had a visitor, I didn’t expect it to be you.
I’m sure you didn’t. I have to talk to you.
Well, I’m–I’m glad you came, ’cause I need to talk to you too.
[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”
[light music]
Brady.
Ava, hi.
Hey. I–I heard the news that you were cleared in Sarah’s accident. I’m–I’m very happy for you.
Thank you.
Yeah.
Thank you. It’s a tremendous relief. It is.
Yeah.
It’s just, I–you know.
You what?
[sighs] Ava, I’m still feeling shame for the fact that, you know, I was drunk, I fell off the wagon, I succumbed to my addiction, whatever you want to call it. But I am grateful, though, that I was not behind the wheel.
This is club soda, by the way. It’s just club soda.
Yeah, I figured as much.
Mm-hmm.
[chuckles] You know what? I should get going. I’ve been on my feet all day long.
Managing that Bistro, huh?
Yeah. See you, Brady.
Hey, hey. You want to– you want to join me? The club soda’s great here.
Oh. Oh. Well, in that case, yes, absolutely.
Please.
[laughs]
What’s that? Oh! Interesting reading material.
Yeah, I bought a new car. Actually, Kristen… bought me a car.
Oh.
This just has to be so damn hard on Chad.
Oh, for sure. I mean, these last few months have been one hell of a roller coaster for him. And now you tell me he and this woman, this impostor, actually did get married before Steve showed up.
Yeah, they did. But lucky for us that this woman lied about her name, which makes the marriage invalid.
OK, good. So much for that.
Yeah. But still, Chad. I mean, he’s got to grieve Abigail all over again. And he was really believing that he had the miracle of a second chance with her.
Yeah, I’m sure he hopes he never set eyes on that woman again.
Would you mind if I just start, if I just say what I have to say first? [tense music]
Sure.
I–I know I said it before, but I–I think it’s worth mentioning again. I–I hated what I did to you. I–I hated it, the– the deception, all of it. I hated every single minute of it. I–I didn’t feel like I had a choice because my mother’s life was hanging in the balance. And I’m not trying to tell you that I– I’ve lived some wonderful life or I’m some perfect person. But that, that was not me. What I did to you was not me. And the more it went on and on, the harder and harder it got because I started to get to know you and see how generous and kind you are and what a good father you are. And I fell–fell for you. And I mean, I know I said that before. I’m sorry, I just– I’m rambling because I’m– I’m really nervous. Why don’t you just go ahead and talk? It’s your turn. Sorry. I’m just–
Are you done?
I have a question for you.
What is it?
Where’s my wife?
Kristen bought you a car. Hmm.
[groans]
Is that her way of getting back together with you? Hmm?
Could be.
She wants you back.
I don’t even know why I bothered saying that Kristen bought me the car. I think I just realized that I don’t like people thinking that I have a, you know, expensive car. I don’t even care about cars.
Yeah.
I don’t care about them.
Right, right. No, no, nor do I. No, it’s just– it’s just a means– a way to get you from one place to the next.
To the next.
Yeah.
Yeah, it’s a car. Whatever.
Mm-hmm, car. [both chuckle]
Right. [light music] Mm, so, well, I guess the two of you are getting along now, hmm?
I’d say we’re being civilized to each other. I would say that.
OK, OK.
However, she did agree to share custody of Rachel with me, which is huge.
Yeah, that’s huge. Wow.
Yeah.
That’s–that’s great. I’m–I’m very happy for you.
Thank you.
Yeah.
And–and she’s gonna do something huge for Sarah as well.
What? Re–like, what– what is she gonna do?
[sighs] I can’t talk about it just yet. But–but suffice to say, if all goes as planned, it will be a miracle.
Wow.
Mm.
Well, to Kristen and her… sudden generosity of spirit, huh?
Yep.
Yeah. Wonders never cease. [chuckles]
Mm, Grandma, I feel so terrible. I just wormed my way into Tate’s house under false pretenses to get evidence to use against his dad. I don’t know, I felt like I had to get justice for Aunt Sarah, you know?
Yes, I do know. And that drove you to do that– and not just for Sarah but because… you know how your father lost his life. Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but I almost felt like you were getting justice for him as well, your dad.
You’re not wrong. That’s exactly why I did it. But still, I feel sneaky and dishonest. And honestly, I just feel like a fool because it turns out, Brady was innocent after all. And mainly, I just feel bad I hurt Tate so much.
I know you do, honey. But Tate obviously knows that your father was killed in a car accident. I mean, that’s why you’re so passionate about trying to get justice for Sarah. And I think that he should be reminded of that.
Yeah, maybe he should be.
Mm-hmm. And I know Tate’s father very well. I’m Brady’s sponsor and a friend. And I’ve known him for a long time. [dramatic music] Did you know he was gonna take responsibility for a mistake that he thought he had made? And I believe that, well, he was modeling that lesson for Tate, which makes me think that Tate will appreciate you owning up to your own mistake. So you got to talk to him. You’ve got to tell him what you just told me. Express your contrition and how you miss him. [laughs] And I’m assuming you do miss him.
Yeah, a lot.
OK, then. All right, then. Then you got to tell him all of that. And I think he will forgive you.
And what if he doesn’t?
Well, you’re not gonna know unless you try.
Yes, I’ll check in, Mom. Don’t I always? At Brianna’s, right. I’m studying over at Brianna’s. And I’ll probably be home late, so don’t wait up. OK, love you too. Bye. [phone beeps] God, my mom is so annoying. It’s like she has to know where I am every second of every day.
Did you tell her you’re with me?
With a boy? Are you kidding? Of course not. [both chuckle]
Here, please, make yourself comfortable.
You have such a nice house.
Oh, thank you.
Well, since your great-grandfather owned a mansion, I bet this place pales in comparison, right?
Yeah, I don’t know. I wouldn’t actually like to live there. It’s too, I don’t know, huge and dark. And actually, sometimes I get lost in all the rooms and wings there.
Oh, my God, wings?
Yeah.
Wow. I can’t even imagine.
Well, I’ll take you over there sometime, give you a tour of the wings.
I’d like that. Anyway, the town house is pretty cool. I remember taking prom pictures here.
[sighs] I’m so sorry that was such a disaster.
It’s fine. Don’t worry about it.
No, I–I really am really ashamed of the way that I acted. You know, I was so fixated on being with Holly that I didn’t think at all about how what we were doing would affect you.
Like I said, don’t worry about it. That was a long time ago. A lot has changed since then.
Yeah. Yes, it has. But, you know, I still feel really bad.
Well, if you really feel so bad, I’ll just have to think of a way for you to make it up to me.
Hey, Roman.
Hey, Steve.
Hey!
Hello, Sweetness.
Hi. Did you not get my message I was gonna bring home some takeout?
Oh, I–I did. But after the last few days, I wanted to see you sooner rather than later.
Well, I’m happy to hear that. Roman and I are just sitting here commiserating about this whole thing with the Abigail imposter.
Oh, yeah. I was just doing the same thing with Marlena.
Yeah, actually, Marlena was in a while ago to give us a chance to say goodbye to Eric. And she said that you gave her some good news.
I did. I did. Well, first, I told her everything that happened in Paris, which wasn’t such good news. And then I told her who this Abigail imposter really is or, more importantly, who her mother is. [tense music]
Your wife?
Yes, my wife. You remember her, the person you pretended to be for months?
Of course I remember her. But you’re not seriously asking me where she is, are you?
Where is my wife’s body?
Wow, OK. [chuckles] Let me get this straight. This Cat Greene person, this imposter, is Catharina’s daughter?
Yep.
The same Catharina that John supposedly killed in Greece?
“Supposedly” being the operative word. Turns out, Catharina Meleounis didn’t die all those years ago after all.
Wow, I can’t believe that.
And to think John carried all this guilt.
Which we all tried to help him with since he wasn’t in control of his actions when he was The Pawn. But to no avail. John never stopped blaming himself for what happened.
Well, where is Catharina now?
I don’t know. I don’t even know if she’s still alive. [tense music] – Abigail’s body? What–what are you talking about?
When Clyde told me that Abigail was alive, we exhumed her grave. Her coffin was empty. I know now that that was just a part of his plan to make me believe this lie.
Oh, my God. I knew the guy was evil, but I had no idea–
Stop with the fake outrage, all right? You helped that monster with every part of this plan. Just tell me where my wife is.
I don’t know.
Yes, you do!
No, I do not!
You have spent the last few months desecrating my wife’s memory. The least you could do is help me lay her to rest! Where is she?
I am sorry, Chad. I really am.
But I do not know where Abigail’s body is.
OK, speaking of all the… shall I say interesting women that you have been involved with–
Oh, boy.
Yeah, you know what?
What?
Never mind. Not my business.
No, no, no. Hey, hey, hey, it’s OK. It’s all right. My illustrious love life is not a secret in this town.
Yeah, no one’s really is. [both chuckle] But I just think it’s so crazy. I think it’s crazy that you were involved with Xander’s mother and that she let you take the fall for Sarah’s accident.
Mm, and then she almost pushed Sarah down a flight of stairs when she recalled that it was Fiona behind the wheel of the car that hit her.
Wow! She is really a– not well.
“Not well,” that’s an understatement. That woman is a monster.
Yeah, well– well, I guess she’s got a redeeming quality. She’s a good tipper.
She’s a–really? Do tell. How do you know that?
Well, I was being facetious, obviously, since being a big tipper hardly compensates for being a homicidal maniac. But there is a waitress, a young woman who works for me at the Bistro. And she said she used to have good talks with Fiona and she gave her big tips.
Oh.
Yeah. You may know her, actually. She goes to school with your son, Tate. Her name is Sophia. [light music] [remote button clicking]
Damn it! I can’t get this Peacock app to load. That’s where the movie’s playing.
Hmm, that’s weird. Does the remote need new batteries?
No, it’s this stupid TV. I keep trying to tell my grandparents they got to get a new one. I swear, this thing is old enough to vote. Well, that sucks. I guess we can’t watch a movie after all. [dramatic music] Unless you want to watch it in my room?
Oh, you have a TV in your bedroom?
Yeah. Is that weird?
No. No, not at all. I do too. I was just asking.
Right. So…what do you think? Do you want to watch it in my bedroom?
Right before you came in, I actually wrote this text asking Tate if he wanted to talk.
And what did he say?
I didn’t actually send it.
Oh.
I’m nervous. I mean, after what I did, what if he just ghosts me?
And what if he doesn’t? You know, there’s an old saying: “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”
Yeah, I guess.
Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.
[sighs] OK. Here goes nothing.
Mm-hmm. [phone beeps]
[sighs]
So the TV, the one in my bedroom, it’s not as big as this one. But if you don’t mind watching on a smaller screen…
No. No, not at all.
Great.
Yeah.
Let’s go. [both chuckle] OK. All right, let’s do it.
[phone buzzes]
Are you talking about Sophia Choi?
Mm-hmm. That’s the one.
Sure, yeah. No, I know her. She and Tate went to prom together.
Ah, yes, so– well, it sounds like she has a crush, a major one, on your very handsome son…
Mm.
And she would be very interested in dating him.
And did she confide in you that she was going to… go for it?
OK. She actually admitted she was a little reluctant to go for it because she’s concerned that Tate still has feelings for Holly Jonas.
Mm. Well, I am not so sure that Holly is going to be an issue anymore. [dramatic music]
Tate hasn’t texted you back?
Nope, nothing. Not even the little dots. The dots show up when someone’s typing.
I’m familiar with the dots. Thank you.
Yeah. [both chuckle]
Oh, darling, maybe you should put the phone down. Do you know the saying “A watched pot never boils”?
No, I haven’t heard that one.
Oh. Well, stick with me. You’ll hear every saying in the book.
You have to be so proud of yourself. You took a risk. You–you made the first move to set– to set things right between you and Tate. Now all you can do is wait. OK?
Mm-hmm.
You know what? I want to watch a movie. It’s not too late. Oh, are you on Paris time?
No, I’m not tired. A movie sounds good.
OK. All right, then we’ll see what we can find.
OK.
Holly Jonas. Remember, a watched pot?
Oh, yeah. But I can’t help but watching the pot. I mean, he still hasn’t texted me back yet. What–what if he didn’t see my text?
Oh, come on. A teenage boy who doesn’t check his phone every five minutes?
OK, well, what if the phones glitched and it didn’t go through and he didn’t get it?
Oh, honey, he got it.
OK, Grandma, then what if he got my text and he thinks I’m still mad at him, so he wants nothing to do with me?
Then try the old-fashioned thing. Call him.
No.
Oh!
No. No. He’s probably not even gonna pick up.
You know what? I’m gonna do something a little bit more old-fashioned. I’m just gonna go over there.
Well, OK. It is kind of late.
I don’t care. I have to know. I have to see Tate.
Oh! Mwah.
I love you, Grandma.
I love you.
Thank you for all your help. Wish me luck, OK?
Yeah, always. [chuckles]
Hoo.
Always.
Let’s do this.
I’m really glad you asked me to come over.
Me too.
Tate, I know I came on pretty strong in the past. I didn’t mean to.
No, it’s totally OK.
No, it’s not. Well, not really. I just–sometimes my feelings kind of take over, you know? And the next thing I know, I’m doing something completely crazy. Maybe I was just jealous of you and Holly. Or maybe I don’t know how to act when I like someone. And the thing is… I like you, Tate. I really like you.
I like you too.
I had nothing to do with moving Abigail’s body, Chad. I didn’t even know it was missing. [tense music] I mean, come on. Why–
Why do I need to lie to you now? For what reason? It had to have been Clyde.
Well, then I will stop wasting my time with you, and I will go talk to Clyde.
Chad, please.
I–I–
I realize that I have absolutely no right to ask anything of you. But I–if you– if you do speak to Clyde, please ask him where my mother’s body is too.
So Clyde has been holding Catharina hostage all these years? How is that even possible?
You see, that was his leverage over Cat and Mark. But now that they can’t deliver the DiMera fortune, he has no incentive to keep her alive.
Any idea where she’s being held?
No, but Shane has been in touch with the warden at supermax. They’re setting up extra security to make sure that Weston can’t contact anybody on the outside. And if anybody tries to call him, the warden’s gonna let me know immediately. [phone ringing]
What do you know? It’s the warden. [phone beeps] Maybe we’ll catch a break. Steve Johnson.
What? Well, how the hell did that happen? [dramatic music] You can’t be serious. Who’s in charge down there anyway? Yeah, that’s right. Yeah, keep me posted. [phone beeps]
Steve, what’s wrong?
[sighs]
Your mother? What are you talking about?
I’ve been hoping against hope that my mother is still alive. Mark was supposed to kill you. He obviously didn’t do that. I was supposed to transfer your funds to Clyde. I wasn’t able to accomplish that. So… it’s likely that–
It’s likely that my mother is dead. [tense music] [light music]
You said Holly and Tate broke up?
Apparently.
You think they’re gonna get back together again?
You–you are way too– way too invested in all this teenage romance drama stuff.
Yeah, well, can you tell I was a huge fan of “Gossip Girl”?
That’s it. That makes sense.
Mm-hmm, that’s it. That’s it. No, seriously, seriously, I just like Sophia. I don’t know why exactly. I mean, maybe she reminds me a little bit of myself. But, you know, knowing that she likes Tate, I just– I hope he’s interested in her too.
[dramatic music]
Are you OK with this?
Yeah. I am.
[faint knocking]
Did you just hear something?
[knocking]
You have no right to ask anything of me. [tense music]
I understand. Oh, I–I understand.
It’s just that–
Chad, it’s my mom. It’s my mother.
[door slams] [sobbing]
So they transferred Weston to the local courthouse for the hearing on his appeal.
Don’t tell me that he won his appeal.
They didn’t let him go, did they?
No. He escaped!
What?
[light music]
Kind of ironic, isn’t it? Actually, no, not ironic, pathetic that two adults, you and I, are sitting here talking about who my teenage son is gonna end up going steady with.
[laughs] Going stea– oh, going st–I don’t– I don’t–I don’t think that that term, “going steady,” is used anymore, nope.
They don’t use it anymore?
No. [laughs]
What do they say? OK, I’m wondering who my teenage son is gonna end up with, who he’s gonna be with, who’s gonna latch on to. I mean, what do I say to not sound old and uncool?
I don’t know.
You don’t know either?
I don’t. I just– maybe you say, I wonder who they’re gonna end up with, period. You know.
Fine.
Yeah. Like, but–but seriously, why am I so invested in this? What is my excuse? I mean, like–like you said, I mean, Tate’s your son. Of course you would care who he ends up with.
Yes, that’s why I care. But you care about Sophia, right? You told me that.
Yeah.
And you–you know, you want her to be happy and probably end up with my son, right?
Mm. OK, you know what I actually think this is?
Hmm?
Us sitting here talking about who teenagers are gonna end up with?
What do you think it is?
I think it’s a way for us to avoid talking about who we think we will end up with or not end up with.
I think you’re right.
Right?
I think you’re damn accurate on that.
[sighs]
But here’s what I do know. [sighs] I’m having a nice just light conversation with you. There’s no drama, nothing serious, nothing crazy. Ava, I haven’t had one of these in a long time.
Yeah, neither have I. OK. To lighthearted conversations…
Mm.
Nothing too personal, nothing too serious.
Cheers.
Yeah. [both chuckle]
[knocking] [dramatic music]
No, no, I–I definitely just heard something.
Maybe it was just my heart pounding.
Maybe.
Do you have a condom?
Yeah, I think so. Sophia, are you sure?
I am. Yes.
[chuckles]
