THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[light music]

What do you think about this: “Chic is Back”? We’ll splash some magazines across the country, do a targeted ad campaign across socials, and maybe even throw a little TikTok dance in there because why not? You like?

Yeah, yeah. Sounds great.

You sure?

Yeah, it’s terrific, really.

Hmm. So then why do you seem kind of anxious?

Look, this is– it’s my first project with DiMera, and I want it to go well for both of us.

That’s the goal.

Listen, I meant to ask. How is your brother doing? How’s Rafe?

He’s the same, unfortunately.

I’m sorry to hear that. And I do hope that he makes a full recovery and that they catch whoever attacked him. [dramatic music]

[crow caws]

I’m not a murderer.

You were freed from Bayview on the same day that Rafe was stabbed. And when Stephanie came to visit you shortly after it happened, she told me that you had just gotten out of the shower.

So what were you doing in there? Washing off evidence from a bloody crime scene?

No.

That’s not what I was doing.

Then why do you look so guilty, Bobby?

[chuckles] I don’t know how many times I can tell you, Jada. I’m not Bobby.

You know what? I’m gonna put this as plainly as possible for you. You are my best suspect in two stabbing attacks. And my next move is going to be to get on that phone, call in some experts, and they’re gonna come down here, and they’re gonna evaluate you. And I am sure, in fact, that they are gonna tell me that you are Bobby and you are not Everett. And at that point, you better come up with something more convincing than these lame denials.

Fine! Fine.

[sighs] I’m Bobby.

I admit it. But… I did not stab Li. And I did not stab Rafe.

[sighs]

But I can tell you who did.

Oh, really? Who?

[sighs]

[chuckles] Gloves to plant gloves. It’s not OCD if you’re doing it to stay out of prison. [knock at door]

Everett, I need to talk to you. Everett, are you in there?

That gossipy little gadfly. What the hell does he want?

I just want to talk to you about Stephanie.

Hey, Jada, I know you’re super busy right now, but I just wanted to give you a heads-up. Well, I just ran into Leo Stark, and you’re not gonna believe this, but he’s starting to suspect that… Everett might still be Bobby. Don’t worry, though. I think I convinced him to keep his mouth shut. At least I hope I did, but…[sighs] that’s the last thing we need is for Lady Whistleblower to publish that in “The Spectator.”

[knocking]

Chad.

Hey, Jack.

Hey.

I just heard Xander gave you back his half of the paper. That’s the best news I’ve heard all day.

Thanks.

Yeah, I look forward to working together.

Me too.

So what do you want to– you here to talk shop?

No. No, actually, I’m here to talk about Abigail.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

I’ve just come from the lab where, as you know, the process has been painfully slow in enhancing our video of the woman that Clyde claims is Abigail.

Yeah, I’ve been– been checking in every day. Yeah, resolution isn’t getting any better, so… Bid you have a breakthrough or what?

Not exactly. I did recruit the help of an old friend, a photojournalist who’s introduced some innovative AI techniques into the mix. [dramatic music] But if that doesn’t work– the guys were pretty frank with me– they won’t be able to help us anymore.

Wow, OK.

So I wanted you to know that today we’re gonna find out if the video is a dead end or not.

OK, and if it is?

Then I go back to Boston, and I tell Jennifer that we’re back to square one, as if she wasn’t upset enough when I told her that we dug up Abigail’s grave.

Well, Jack, look, if it doesn’t pan out, we got nothing.

Abigail’s grave is empty, and Weston’s in solitary, so we can’t ask him questions.

[sighs]

Well, if it isn’t true… I can’t rest until Abigail’s back with us, resting in peace.

[sighs] Look, I’m going back there right now. I’m gonna see if I can speed things up, OK?

OK, wait. Jack, wait.

Everett, are you there, bro? Bro? Does he even like to be called bro? Who cares what he likes? He dropped Stephanie like a hot rock, and that was very not OK. Well, I guess you’re not there. Maybe I’ll just see you at the office. [candle clatters] [tense music] Maybe not. Everett!

[mouthing words]

Well, evidently you don’t want to talk to me, so…I’ll see you later.

[sighs] That was close. [sighs]

Go ahead. Tell me, Bobby. If it wasn’t you, then who stabbed Detective Hernandez?

OK. OK. Just– [dramatic music]

Just– just give me a second. [clears throat] It was–

It was?

Um–

What? What’s wrong?

Sorry. I don’t– I don’t– I don’t feel that well.

Mm.

I don’t know.

Yeah. Me too. I’m counting on Jada to find the bastard that did this to my brother. And when she does– [phone ringing] Oh, this might be the hospital about Rafe.

Yeah, yeah, take it.

Oh, it’s Stefan. Hey, honey. What’s up?

I need to see you. I’m at the Bistro. How soon can you get here?

Well, Ava and I are in the middle of something right now, the Gabi Chic launch campaign, remember? Can it wait?

No, it can’t.

Stefan, what’s going on? [dramatic music]

I’d rather we discuss it in person.

OK, I’m on my way over.

Is everything OK?

I don’t know. Stefan has something to tell me, apparently. Needs to be in person. He wants me to come to the Bistro.

Oh. I hope it’s nothing bad.

I guess I’ll find out. I’m sorry, Ava. I–

Oh, no, no, no, no. Don’t–don’t worry about it. You go. Go, go. Mm-hmm. [chuckles]

Oh, damn. Why do I not feel so well all of a sudden?

[tense music]

How gullible do you think I am?

Yeah.

This isn’t second grade, Bobby. You can’t fake sick and have Mommy come pick you up from school.

I’m not–[laughs] I’m not faking it. I– Sorry. I just–I don’t– [sighs] I don’t feel that well. My head’s sort of spinning, and… [sniffs] I don’t think you want me to vomit on your shoes, do you?

Damn it, Bobby.

Just give me a sec. I got to go.

No, I just need a name! [phone ringing] [sighs]

Commissioner Hunter.

Gloves, check.

Note, check.

One more thing.

Before you leave, I just wanted to say, you know, the half of the paper that I bought from Gwen, it belongs to you. So, you know, I’d be happy to–

No, no, no, no, no. Chad, I want you to keep it. It was always meant to be Abigail’s, and maybe– [dramatic music] [sighs] I can’t even allow myself to think that. In any event, someday it’ll go to Thomas and Charlotte. That’s what my Abigail would want. And that’s the way it should be.

[sighs] [jazzy music] Greetings, greetings.

Hi.

You know what I was thinking about on the way over here, Chadwick? That if we put you in a nice turtleneck, a paperboy hat, gave you a lovely Irish brogue, you’d make a great Cormac or an Angus or something.

Great.

Anyway, I have what you might call a good problem. Lady Whistleblower has too many gossip items to choose from. Should she write about Alex Kiriakis, who’s out as Victor’s heir; or Xander Cook, who’s been bitten by the acting bug, set to star in “Body & Soul,” a dead-in-the-water soap revived by none other than Salem’s former mayor Abe Carver; or do I turn the lens inward this week?

What does that mean?

Well, well, somebody’s up from his little shluffy. What I mean is that Everett is back post-Bayview, and the question of the hour is, does he seem like himself to you?

Wouldn’t know. I haven’t spoken to him much.

Hmm, could be because he’s holed up in his room at the Salem Inn, hardly ever emerging, likely ruminating over his other, very nasty personality that he has finally shoved away, and he’s ordering takeout from that Chinese place that’s always forgetting the napkins.

So you haven’t seen him much either, then.

No, and not for lack of trying. I knocked on his door earlier, and he totally blew me off.

[tense music]

Well, when you find out, you let me know immediately. Thanks. [sighs]

Bad time?

Oh, I am up to my eyeballs here. But no, we need to debrief.

Yeah. Have you talked to Everett?

I did.

What did he say?

He admitted to faking Everett’s reemergence just so he can get out of Bayview.

Oh, my God. So we were right.

Yep, we were. And you know what else he admitted to?

What?

He said that he only pretended to be reintegrated just so that people wouldn’t suspect that he was Bobby.

So he was pursuing you. That’s why he stabbed Rafe, to get him out of the way.

Well, he vehemently denied doing that, but this is the curious part. He said that he knows who really did.

Really?

Mm-hmm.

Did he say who?

No. As soon as I started pressing him for specifics, he conveniently got sick, and he said he had to go home.

Huh.

[groans] Oh, God. There it is. Just–[groans] [sighs] God. [sighs] What is wrong with me? [breathing heavily] [groans]

Well, I hope I am not interrupting.

No, no, no, not at all. I’m just working on the ad campaign for Gabi Chic relaunch. And so far, we’ve got “Chic is Back.”

Mm. How about… [clears throat] “Chic Never Left”?

Oh. I like that.

Good. [both chuckle]

I did a little summer internship with Dior many moons ago. Where is Gabi?

She had to leave.

Why?

Oh, well, Stefan summoned her to discuss something that apparently he could not talk about on the phone.

OK, this is only her second day. That’s unacceptable.

Yeah, well, actually, I told her she could go. [dramatic music]

Why would you do that?

Because I fear that the inevitable is about to happen, and I figure, why not just get it over with?

Oh, God. What are you talking about, right? I mean, come on. You got to be serious.

OK, I just– I just feel– look, I have this terrible feeling that in spite of all of his protestations, Stefan is planning on telling Gabi that we slept together while she was in prison.

[sighs]

Why is there a “closed” sign on the door? What’s going on? What’s wrong?

I would like a little one-on-one time with my wife.

Really? Now?

If not now, when?

I don’t know, maybe when I’m not in the middle of a campaign prelaunch. Stefan, this is crunch time. I have a Zoom meeting with an investor in Dubai in, like, two hours.

It’s tomorrow, your meeting.

How’d you–

You share your calendar with me, remember?

OK, well, still.

I missed you. Cariña… is it OK for me to miss my wife?

I’ve missed you too. And believe me, I hate that I’m working at DiMera and you’re not. But you got to understand how important this is to me. If we want Gabi Chic to be a global brand, it’s gonna take a lot of my time and attention.

OK, I completely understand. Just give me a minute, OK?

What are these for?

[laughs] You really have to ask?

Happy anniversary to the love of my life.

Oh.

Do you think I should have kept knocking or throwing little pebbles at his window, maybe?

No, absolutely not. And I wouldn’t take it personally, OK? Everett’s just focusing on his mental health right now, so probably just needs some space.

Hmm. You don’t think they released him from Bayview prematurely, do you? I know that Dr. Evans knows her stuff, but you’re kind of the DID expert around here.

Leo.

I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have–

No, don’t be sorry. Just don’t– I’m sorry, I’m just– you know, I’m a little bit edgy right now.

Oh. Oh, trust me, I get it. Beneath this veneer of lighthearted cheekiness, I’m pretty much always on edge. Like, right now, for instance, listen to this. [jaw clicking]

Ugh.

I know, right? One of the ways that my edginess manifests itself is with my jaw clicking. I mean, Xander’s out. Jack is in. Crazy times around here.

Yeah, things are definitely changing.

Seismically, Chadwick. And when I heard that one of the old owners was back, I couldn’t help but wonder if that meant Ms. Guinevere Rizczech was on her way back too.

Nope. Perish the thought.

Yes, well, as you know, she hated me in the end, which I deserved. But she was the best friend I ever had, that I ever will have. And I threw it all away. [dramatic music] Oh, my gosh, I just realized, today is her anniversary. [breathes deeply]

Oh, my God, Stefan, I’m so sorry. With Rafe’s stabbing and everything going on at Gabi Chic–

You forgot our anniversary.

[sighs] I feel awful.

Well, you should. You should feel terrible.

[sighs]

OK, but seriously, though, how could you forget? We’ve gotten married twice on this day.

Oh, well, I’d rather forget that whole disastrous Dimitri-Gwen double wedding. But still, I totally blanked. I’m sorry.

Gabi, sweetheart, it’s OK. I just thought that maybe you were expecting something, you know, a nice romantic dinner, a fancy bottle of bubbly…

Mm.

Maybe my famous squid ink linguine.

Famous squid ink linguine? You don’t have one of those.

Yes, I– well, after I watch the internet tutorial, maybe I do.

Oh.

Anyway, I just– I wanted you to be surprised. [tender music]

I was surprised. This is so sweet, mi amor. Thank you.

You didn’t think that was your only surprise, did you?

Mm.

Oh-ho-ho. My dear Gabriella, we’re only just beginning.

[sighs] God, I can’t believe it’s been a year since Gwen and Dimitri had that double wedding with Gabi and Stefan.

Well, I don’t think a toast is in order.

No, more like a crying jag– for me, anyway. Do you know that the two of them never even officially got divorced?

Well, I take it, it still bothers you.

Yeah, yeah, it still bothers me. I threw away my entire friendship with Gwennie, my beautiful, witty, loyal BFF who stood by me through thick and thin for, what, some fickle schlimazel who then unceremoniously dumps me for I don’t even know who. That story he told me in that poorly written breakup letter didn’t even make any sense.

What’d he say?

[sighs] He said he met some guy in prison. I could see it now, the two of them in the prison library, reaching for the same copy of “Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets,” locking eyes, and then what? They get released at the same time? Part of me wonders if it’s even true.

What, you think he’s making it up?

I wouldn’t put it past him. Maybe he doesn’t want me to know.

Know what?

Well, that he’s going back to Gwen so he could, like, turn on the charm, wine and dine her, flash that perfect smile, and then reclaim his inheritance. I wouldn’t be surprised if, right now, the two of them are on a ski lift in the French Alps, doubled over in laughter.

It’s summer.

Oh. Well… [sighs]

OK, look, I think– I think this is all a stretch, to be honest.

Well, Dimitri is your nephew. You tell me, have you heard from him?

No, I haven’t, and I probably never will. OK, let me ask you this. Would it be less upsetting if– if he went back to Gwen than if he ended up with another man? [dramatic music]

Mm. I think it’d be more upsetting if he went back to Gwen because I’d be worried that he would break her heart into a million pieces all over again.

OK, look, I’m no shrink, obviously, but I don’t think sitting around, coming up with a bunch of crazy ideas is doing any good.

Yeah, I know.

Mm.

I guess I just miss them both…a lot. I wish things had turned out differently.

God, no wonder Everett was so cold to me.

Because he is not Everett.

Right. OK, and just so I’m understanding this correctly…

Mm.

Everett– sorry, Bobby says that he knows who stabbed both Li and Rafe?

Yes, but every time I ask him to name names, he conveniently finds a way to table the conversation.

So you don’t think he was really sick, then?

No, I don’t.

Then why’d you let him leave?

I had no choice. There’s not enough evidence to hold him here.

But he admitted that he lied to get out of Bayview.

That’s not a crime.

OK, but now that he knows we suspect him, he could skip town. Who’s to say he’s not packing his bags right this second?

Could be. But there’s no legal means to stop him. Stephanie, my hands are tied.

Well, mine aren’t. I don’t have to follow police procedure, so I’m heading over there right now.

Stephanie. Stephanie, wait.

[sighs]

[groaning]

What is this?

Digoxin. May cause– oh, God. Oh, who cares? [groans]

Don’t you think that you’re being a little paranoid about the whole Stefan situation? Just a word of advice. Stop bringing it up in public places. You never know who may overhear you.

Excuse me!

And who might you be?

I’m Connie Viniski, Gabi’s new executive assistant.

Oh, right, right. She did mention that she hired an assistant. I’m Ava Vitali.

Pleasure to meet you. And where is Gabi?

She’s not in at the moment.

Oh, well, she told me to be here at : a.m. sharp. I even brought her a latte. Extra foam, et cetera.

Hmm, well, I would love a latte, extra foam, et cetera. Thank you, dear. [sighs] Oh, my God, that is awful! What did you put in that? [suspenseful music]

[knocking]

Who wants a latte?

Just come in. Go.

[chuckles]

Oh, that’s just a plain old cup of Joe. I didn’t put anything in– not in that one, anyway.

Oh.

[labored breathing]

Who wants a latte?

Just come on. Get in. Get in. God.

Oh, my God. Connie. [groaning] Oh, God. Come on. Come on. Oh. [groans]

OK.

……. It’s just–

OK, Leo, buddy, my friend.

[chortles]

Look, you can’t stare into the rearview mirror for too long, right? You got to look forward. You know, eyes on the road ahead.

Yeah, I know.

Yeah.

I know. I’m trying. I’m sorry, Chadwick. I didn’t mean to lay all this on you.

No, no, no. It’s fine. It’s–it’s fine. And honestly, you know, I– I hope for good things for you. I hope they’ll happen for you, you know, and I think they will. OK? I mean, you got a lot going for you.

Like what? Don’t hold back. [somber music]

[chuckles] OK. OK.

You’re smart. Yeah. You’re funny. You make me laugh.

Oh.

You think I’m a hunk. No? OK, look. You at least try to be a better person.

But I rarely succeed. Thank you, Chadwick. That really meant a lot.

And in the meantime, it’s OK to feel lonely. You know, moving on from the love of your life, some days, is impossible.

Look, I know about what’s going on with Abigail.

It’s my job to know.

No, no, yeah, right.

I assume there haven’t been any updates?

Not yet.

Well, I just want to say, I hope you don’t ever have to move on.

Really? Another surprise?

Yes, another surprise. And I actually surprised myself a little bit.

Really?

I wrote you a poem.

[gasps]

And I started it while we were apart, and I finished it last night in hopes that I could recite it to you on our anniversary.

Oh, I know you can sing and play the piano. I had no idea you were a poet.

Oh, don’t call me that yet. You haven’t heard it. But know that I fully intend to put it to music and sing it to you one day.

I would love that.

OK, here goes. [clears throat] All right.

Mm.

[sighs] [tender music]

[sighs] Like the river to a stream…

Or the ocean to a bay…

We’re believing in a dream that…

Seems too far away.

Like the harbor to a sailor who’s too long been at sea…

You are everything to me.

I see you in the stars, and you are the brightest one by far.

[sighs] I love everything you are. And I need you right beside me, with your love’s pure light to guide me.

Oh, Stefan. [chuckles]

Like the theater when the playwright sees his name on the marquee or a moment in the spotlight for a first-time nominee, whatever else there is…

Means nothing much, you see?

‘Cause you are everything to me.

So beautiful.

[sighs]

Happy anniversary, my darling.

Happy anniversary, mi amor.

Would you be a doll and bring me some sweetener for this, Cathy?

It’s Connie.

[chuckles] Right, Connie.

And I work for Gabi.

And Gabi works for me, so chop-chop. [claps] Go.

The break room’s around the corner.

[groans]

You don’t think that she heard us talking about Stefan, do you?

Well, I mean, we’re just lucky that she didn’t come seconds sooner. [phone beeps]

Oh.

What? What is it?

It’s Gabi.

Well, what did she say?

Oh, she’s not gonna come back. She’s taking the rest of the day off. She and Stefan are celebrating their anniversary.

All right, well…

[sighs]

I guess you have nothing to worry about.

Yes, you’re right. You’re right. You’re right. I just need to chill out.

Mm-hmm.

[sighs]

Oh, look who’s back just in time. We have a scheduled budgetary meeting or more like a powwow.

Where’s my desk?

Why don’t you ask Gabi? Ta-ta, darling. [dramatic music]

Well, no one’s using this one.

– * Doo-doo-doo-doo-doo *

Don’t mind if I do.

[knocking]

Everett?

[knocking] Everett, come on.

Here.

How did you get–

Let’s just say the manager doesn’t need to know that I don’t have a warrant. Let’s do it.

[sighs] I just hope that we’re not too…

[gasps] Oh!

Late. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. What happened? [tense music]

Everett. Everett, wake up.

Jada, is he–

[dramatic music]

He’s still breathing.

Thank God.

There’s a pulse. But it’s very, very weak.

Bobby. Bobby, what did you do?

[mumbles incoherently]

What?

[mumbles]

What?

How many of these did you take?

I didn’t take any.

Well, Connie, darling, at long last, you’ve washed your hands of the Bobby problem. [suspenseful music] And now you can focus on making Gabi and Stefan pay for what they did to Li. And, oh, will they ever pay.

OK, I just– I just feel– look, I have this terrible feeling that in spite of all of his protestations, Stefan is planning on telling Gabi that we slept together while she was in prison.

And lucky me. The perfect ammunition just fell right into my lap.

[tender music]

Stefan, that poem was so beautiful.

I can’t take the credit. You Need to thank my muse.

The woman who inspires me, who I fall more and more in love with every day.

[chuckles]

To the year ahead.

Best one yet. [glasses clink]

[dramatic music]

Guinevere, you actually answered. What do I want? Well, I was just thinking about you. I know that today is your anniversary, and I was wondering– Go screw myself? OK, that’s fair enough. But listen, Gwennie, I–

Chad was right. I should have just left well enough alone. [sighs]

Chad.

Hey. Back already.

And I’ve got it. I’ve got our video.
