[ Daniel humming ]
Daniel: This one definitely deserves a place of honor.
Lily: Ah, yes. I agree. Right next to Dad.
[ Daniel chuckling ]
Lily: What do you think?
Daniel: It’s not bad. The only thing missing is a picture of us at our wedding in Vegas.
[ Lily chuckling ]
Daniel: Too bad we don’t have one, I think.
Lily: Oh, my god, Lucy’s going to be so bummed.
Daniel: She won’t let it go.
Lily: God, that was forever ago. I feel like we are two completely different people now.
Daniel: Definitely not the same crazy, impulsive kid I was then, you know?
Lily: Yeah.
Daniel: I had no idea what life was about. Hell, not even the same person I was a year ago and it makes me glad. Everything now, it feels new and fresh and exciting.
Lily: Really? Everything?
Daniel: No. No, my mom is still the same as she ever was.
Phyllis: Oh, god. My god, it’s really you. For a second, I thought this was a trap.
Carson: No, it’s me.
Phyllis: Oh, my god.
Carson: In the flesh.
Phyllis: I can’t believe that Michael’s really– I– I mean, he said that he was closing in on you, but I didn’t think it would be this soon. He’s a miracle worker.
Tucker: Actually, I’m your miracle worker.
Diane: Kyle.
Kyle: Hey. Um, Harrison is upstairs asleep and Linda will be with him ’til I get back.
Diane: Did he ask for his mommy?
Kyle: It will take a while for him to get adjusted.
Diane: Yeah, for everyone.
Kyle: Don’t wait up.
Diane: Uh, Kyle, c– could we please talk?
Kyle: I have some place to be, Mom.
Diane: Well, this is important. It’s about your marriage.
Chance: You know, cops drink coffee at night to stay awake. What’s your excuse?
Summer: Uh, can a girl just crave an iced latte?
Chance: If it cheers you up, sure.
Summer: I actually have some news for you.
Chance: Hm. Can’t tell if that’s good or bad.
Summer: My mom is ready to turn herself in. Michael is officially her attorney and this nightmare might finally be over.
Phyllis: Son of a bitch. It’s you. Wha– is SWAT coming? Is Christine leading the parade? You didn’t get a big enough settlement from Stark? I mean, I was going to turn myself in, but not this way.
Tucker: It’s not what you think, Phyllis.
Phyllis: The reward wasn’t big enough? Is this about the reward?
Tucker: There’s a reward? It doesn’t matter. It’s not about money.
Phyllis: Everything is about money with you.
Tucker: The cops are not going to bust down the door. I simply want to make you an offer and I think you’re going to want to hear it.
Kyle: I didn’t realize it was going to be this kind of talk.
Diane: Here you go.
Kyle: Thanks, but I really do have some place to be.
Diane: Kyle, I’m worried about you.
Kyle: I understood. You’re worried. I’m fine.
Diane: No, you’re not. Every time I see you, you’re running out the door.
Kyle: Okay, it’s called living my life.
Diane: No, it’s called avoiding the pain. I know how much you love Summer and– and– and your– your life together, your family.
Kyle: Summer had other priorities, didn’t she?
[ Diane sighing ]
Diane: Look, I’m sure she regrets everything she did. Kyle, it doesn’t mean your marriage is over.
Kyle: Well, you– you say that like ending my marriage was my choice. Summer burnt it to the ground with every decision she made, so how I feel or don’t feel, it doesn’t really matter.
Chance: Your mother wants to turn herself in? It sounds like you’ve been in touch. What happened to working as friends to find Phyllis?
Summer: No, I didn’t say that I know where she is. But now that she is ready to come forward, everything’s going to be okay.
Chance: Summer, I think you and I have very different definitions of that word.
Summer: All I know, chance, is that my mom really wants to come home.
Chance: Why now?
Summer: She realizes the damage she’s done. The people that she’s hurt and she wants to fix what she can.
Chance: Well, I hope she knows that some things are going to be tougher to fix than others. How you doing with the separation?
Summer: I hate it. It’s part of why she’s coming back, actually. She feels responsible. She wants to do the right thing.
Chance: Well, does doing the right thing involve facing charges because that will happen.
Summer: I know. And yes, she accepts that.
Chance: Really? Because prison time is the reason she refused to turn herself in the first place, and now she’s just okay with it? What’s changed?
Summer: I think that she’s hoping once everybody understands what actually happened, the charges won’t be too harsh.
Chance: Well, I really hope that doesn’t mean trying to manipulate the law because I will not turn a blind eye and neither will Christine.
Phyllis: There is nothing you can offer me, Tucker.
Tucker: Your freedom. Standing right there. Courtesy of me. Not Michael. Not Victor. Me. I am your salvation, Phyllis. I’m your one shot at not spending years behind bars. So, please. I think you’re at least open to a conversation.
Phyllis: But if I’m not open to a conversation?
Tucker: You know, what I giveth, I can taketh it away.
Phyllis: How do you know about this?
Tucker: Michael and your kids. They’re very worried. So… determined to fight for you, to find this man. Even Victor is pitching you. Because Carson’s testimony substantiates your claim that Stark coerced you into your crimes. Isn’t that right?
Carson: Stark was one scary dude. He made it real clear. If I didn’t fall into line, he would kill me.
Tucker: Right. Which I believe would go a long way in supporting your claim of self-defense.
Phyllis: It was self-defense.
[ Tucker chuckling ]
Tucker: Yeah, of course it was. And he’ll testify that he witnessed the attack and saw you kill Stark in self-defense.
Phyllis: What’s the catch?
Tucker: No catch. Just peace of mind for our friend here. I’m going to support his mom financially while he does his time. And he’ll have a clean conscience, right? Uh, and perhaps a lighter sentence from having come forward.
Phyllis: How do I know this isn’t just a lie? That if I turn myself in… you– you’re not gonna just throw me under the bus?
Tucker: She’s a hard sell.
Phyllis: Does Michael know about this?
Tucker: No, not yet.
Phyllis: There’s nothing between us. I don’t understand why you would want to help me. I don’t understand why you’re doing this. I can’t wrap my head around whatever is going on here.
Tucker: There is something between us though, something very important we share.
Phyllis: I want you to tell me what this is all about.
[ Knocking on door ]
Daniel: Mm, no, no, no. Just ignore it. It’ll go away.
[ Lily chuckling ]
[ Knocking on door]
Lily: Okay, whoever it is they’re not going away. I’m sorry, hold on. Nate.
Nate: Hello, neighbor.
[ Lily chuckling ]
Nate: Welcome. Daniel, it’s good to see you.
Daniel: Yep.
Lily: Uh, this was not necessary.
Nate: What are you talking about? My cousin just moved in across the hall. I couldn’t be happier. I hope I’m not interrupting.
Lily: Uh, actually, yeah, we were just–
Daniel: No, no. I was just leaving. Congratulations on the new place. If you need any tips about decorating you know where to find me.
Lily: Mm-hmm. Bye.
Daniel: Mm-hmm.
Lily: Uh, so?
Nate: I really am glad you’re here. I’m looking forward to us seeing more of each other.
[ Nate clears throat]
Lily: You are?
Nate: Yes, of course. And I was hoping we could celebrate by having a glass of wine.
[ Lily chuckling ]
Lily: Yeah, I mean, look, we can have a glass of wine, but I can’t just sit and chat like nothing ever happened between us.
Tucker: By helping another… you build your own future happiness.
Phyllis: I don’t even know what that’s supposed to mean. Uh, listen, if you’re not straight with me, I’m just going to be leaving, okay?
Tucker: Nah, you’re not going to be leaving. Because I am the key to your future happiness, so I don’t think you’re going to walk out on that. I think you’re going to be grateful. I think… possibly indebted to me for my generosity.
Phyllis: Ah, I get it. I get it. So, I accept what you’re offering and I’m indebted to you or you go away, right?
[ Phyllis scoffing ]
Tucker: That’s right. Uh… thank you for your time, Carson. Uh, why don’t you go ahead and head back to the suite? Order whatever you’d like from room service. Watch a good movie.
Carson: Whatever you say, Mr. McCall.
Tucker: Thank you.
Phyllis: How did you do that? I mean, how did you convince him to testify on my behalf? How do you know he’s not just going to disappear?
Tucker: Everyone has their price and he’s not going to disappear unless I tell him to.
Phyllis: All right, so I have to agree to everything you’re saying or he goes, bye-bye?
Tucker: Mm-hmm. He can either be paid to stick around and cooperate or he can be paid to vanish. Never look back.
Phyllis: What’s going on? What do you want from me?
Tucker: So… while you were on the lam in that… delightful hat and sunglasses get up there, Ashley and I got engaged. I think that’s where you’re supposed to say, “Gee, Tucker, congratulations.” No? Okay. Anyway, we also started a new company. Simply “Ashley Cosmetics.”
Phyllis: Ah, okay. We need another cosmetic company, that’s for sure.
Tucker: This is not going to be just another cosmetic company. We’re going to have all of Ashley’s patents, which we will have rested from Jabot, and then we are going to take Jabot and we are going to… grind it into a fine powder and then scoop it up for pennies on the dollar.
Phyllis: My eyes are glazing over.
Tucker: But when we take over Jabot, Diane is going to be the major challenge, as I assume you know she has been promoted to the C-suite. Ergo, we would like her out of the way.
Phyllis: Out of the way?
Tucker: Um, di– distracted. Thrown off her game in whatever way possible and what better way to achieve that than to have you return? All your glory. Vindicated and Victorious.
Phyllis: Right. So… you give me my freedom… so I can come back to town and screw Diane over.
Tucker: You got it.
Diane: Kyle, for all of the advantages that you’ve had in your life, seeing what a healthy long-term relationship looks like hasn’t been one of them. There– there are ebbs and flows, there’s compromise and forgiveness.
Kyle: No, no, no, I have a son whose mother has made it very clear she has no problem putting herself first. That is no way to raise a child. I will protect my son. So, if this is about you pushing me to forgive someone–
Diane: All right, just stop. Stop! I was that mother.
Kyle: Hey, hey, that was different.
Diane: No, no, and– and– and you forgave me, and you were hurt and you were angry, just like you are right now.
Kyle: Okay, okay, even if I could forgive Summer, I know who she is. There’s no way I would be able to trust her not to do something like this again.
Diane: Well, you just… put your faith in the love you have, the– the foundation that you’ve built, and you just– you just hang on until you get to the other side. Look, I know– I know that you still love Summer.
Kyle: How am I able to maintain a relationship after what she and her mother did? And it’s not like Phyllis is gone for good. She will be back soon, whispering in Summer’s ears and who knows what they will do next.
Diane: All right, Summer knows that what she did was wrong and she is trying to repair things. Kyle, are you really ready to– to throw away the life that you’ve created together?
Kyle: You know what I don’t get? Is why you’re on Summer’s side? Because she is clearly more like Phyllis than any of us suspected.
Phyllis: So, you want me to come back into town to terrorize Diane? This is what I’ve been doing. This is what got me here.
Tucker: I understand. This time is going to be different. I have a new approach.
Phyllis: Okay. Well, first, I’m not going to help you take down a company that owns my daughter’s company, I’m not going to do that. Okay? My daughter’s company is part of Jabot. And second, I– I don’t want to be near Diane. I don’t wanna continue that. That war is over. I don’t want to be a part of it.
Tucker: You don’t have to be a part of any war. That’s all being fought by Ashley and me. And I promise you, Marchetti will come out of this unscathed. All I want you to be is a presence. A… you know, irritating, fingernails on chalkboard, constant presence in Diane’s life.
Phyllis: Just my presence is required.
Tucker: Yeah. You’ve– you’ve scared more than enough people just being present.
Phyllis: This is your new approach?
Tucker: Yeah. It’s very simple. Just be the– the tipping point that pushes Diane over the edge. All while enjoying this new freedom I’m providing for you. What do you say? Or I can happily send Carson away. You can forget about the whole thing. And one of the perks that you might be overlooking is that… you’ll be bringing down a woman you absolutely hate. Diane will lose her fancy position at Jabot, her marriage to Jack, crumble. What’s not to love?
Phyllis: There has been so much pain.
Tucker: Yeah.
Phyllis: So much pain. I can’t go through that pain anymore, Tucker.
Tucker: I understand.
Phyllis: Do you understand?
Tucker: I do understand. Yeah, so maybe, the best thing to do is look on the bright side. I’m sure that you’ve got… a lot of amends to make, yeah? Your daughter. You blew up her marriage, right? So maybe, you start there. I know that Jack and Kyle might be a harder sell, but you will appeal to their mercy. They forgave Diane, for god’s sakes. I have faith that they would welcome you back to the family and into the community. And you can resume the life that you loved. Okay? It’s up to you. Oh, and… we never had this conversation. Understand?
Summer: Just ready for this to be over. I’m so tired of the secrets. Worrying and… being the bad guy. I have lost so much. And I miss it. You know, I miss… Harrison. How he would jump into our bed in the morning to snuggle, and… I miss Kyle. And the way that he would look at me. Like it was just me and him.
Chance: I’m sorry.
Summer: It’s my fault. Right? I mean, I gutted my marriage with lies. And Kyle might not ever forgive me, and I might not deserve to be forgiven. Have you forgiven Abby for what she did?
Chance: Oh, um… it’s a process. But time helps.
Summer: I don’t want to wait. I’ve loved Kyle since I was a teenager. I mean, no matter who else I’ve been with, other relationships, I mean, it was always him. Always, and he is the person that I want. Our life, that is the life that I want, so I just need to figure out a way to fix my marriage, you know, and that can’t happen until this mess is behind us, so… I am glad that my mom is finally, ready to come home.
Chance: Even though you’ll face charges.
Summer: The first step to getting back to any sense of normalcy is… taking responsibility for what I did to help my mom and the damage that I did to my marriage.
Christine: Ah, you seem deep in conversation. Is there something I should know?
[ Knocking on door ]
Phyllis: Hey, Heather. Did Daniel–
Heather: Send me? Yes, he did. I’m taking over your case.
Phyllis: What? No, no, no, no, no, no. I– I mean, wh– where’s Michael?
Heather: Michael is on a plane to Singapore, where apparently, Gloria has gotten herself into a serious legal entanglement.
Phyllis: What– oh, my god. What? What? I mean, he’s– he’s dumping my murder trial for illegal entanglement?
Heather: It’s his mother.
Phyllis: It’s Gloria! Yeah, she’s always in a legal mess. Oh, my god. No! No! I can’t do this without Michael. I can’t do it.
Heather: I understand. But unfortunately, he’s gone. And I get it. If you don’t want me to represent you for a variety of reasons, but I’m up to speed on your case and Daniel urged me to do this. It was his idea that I step in. He was with Michael when Michael got the call from Gloria. Fortunately, I was in Savannah.
Phyllis: I– I mean, I don’t– I don’t know. I don’t– I don’t know. I don’t know.
Heather: Look, Phyllis, we don’t have to like each other, okay? You can still hate me for what happened with Daniel.
Phyllis: I don’t hate you.
Heather: I’m here, Phyllis. And I’m good. So, what’s it going to be?
Chance: Well, there could be some movement with Phyllis soon, but as far as actionable detail, nothing we can move on right at this minute.
Christine: I know you’re loyal to your mom, but have you considered the damage this is doing to your life?
Summer: I’m well aware. I– I better go. Thanks for listening.
Christine: So, what does movement mean?
Chance: Well, apparently, Phyllis is ready to turn herself in.
Christine: I don’t know if I believe that. And if it’s true, there’s an angle. There’s always an angle with Phyllis. Something to get her out of the punishment she deserves.
Chance: You think Baldwin could have a legal ace up his sleeve?
Christine: I mean, just can’t think of any ace that would balance out Phyllis’s multitude of crimes. But I have no doubt they will sure as hell try.
Nate: Welcome to the building.
Lily: Thank you.
Nate: Looks like you’re settling in.
Lily: Yeah, just you know, getting started.
Nate: If you need any help, any info about the building…
Lily: Thanks, I– I have Devon for that.
Nate: Of course.
Lily: Look, Nate. [ Sighing ] We’re family, you know, and what made me sad, and my dad’s tribute, those things reminded me of that. And so, I am trying really hard to get back to a place where we are just family. Where there’s no anger, no resentment. But that’s going to take time, okay? I can’t just sit here with you and have a glass of wine and chat like you didn’t stab Devon and me in the back.
Nate: I will always regret what I did. And I will continue to say that until you believe me.
Lily: Right. Well, I mean, it worked out great for you, right? You’re Victoria’s number two and you’re number one in her heart.
Nate: My position is temporary. I’m just grateful she sees my potential.
Lily: Yeah, professionally and personally.
Nate: I won’t apologize for my relationship with Victoria.
Lily: I’m not asking you to. But, I mean, she did try to steal Chancellor-Winters with your help. So, I don’t think we’re going to go on a double date anytime soon.
Nate: Victoria is a brilliant, dynamic woman. She’s become very special to me, so if she’s the deal breaker here, I’m sorry. There’s nothing I can do about that.
Phyllis: I mean, I don’t have the luxury of time, you know, I– I could try to get in touch with Amanda, but she’s maybe on the other side of the world or something. So, I mean– wow. I know you’re good, Heather. I know you’re– you’re better than good. I know this. You’re hired.
Heather: Excellent. Let’s get to work.
Phyllis: Okay. So, um, did Michael tell you about the guy, Carson? Trying to locate him? I mean, the EMT?
Heather: Who came forward with the statement substantiating your claims of coercion and self-defense.
Phyllis: Right. Right. That would be my ticket out of jail, right?
Heather: According to Michael, his team was closing in on the guy, and then, he just– he disappeared.
Phyllis: Hm. Well, hm… let– let’s stay on that. You know, keep looking for him because, um, I have a feeling he’s going to show up sooner or later.
Heather: What would make you feel that?
Phyllis: Well, I have to be optimistic, don’t I?
Heather: I suppose so.
[ Knocking on door ]
Summer: Hi.
Phyllis: Hey.
Daniel: Are you– you still okay with this?
Phyllis: Well, sure. I mean, I– I’d rather have Michael, of course. I don’t– no disrespect, Heather.
Heather: I get it.
Daniel: Thank you for this.
Summer: Yes, thank you so much.
Daniel: Was Michael’s team able to find Carson?
Summer: Yeah, can Mom turn herself in?
Heather: They were getting close, and then–
[ Phone ringing ]
Heather: Excuse me? It’s Michael’s private investigator. “We’ve located our man. He actually came to us and he’s willing to cooperate.”
Summer: That’s good.
Daniel: That’s great. That’s great news.
Phyllis: Wow, that is terrific news.
Heather: I guess you were right to be so optimistic.
Phyllis: Yeah, well, you know, I manifested it and it came to be, right? So, um… well, okay, here we go. Um… I have a lot to do. I have to make up all the damage that’s been done.
Summer: Are you really ready to turn yourself in, Mom?
Phyllis: Yeah. The stakes are too high. I have to do it. So, what’s the next step? What do I do now?
Heather: Okay. Hi, chance, it’s Heather. Heather Stevens. I’ve taken over for Michael Baldwin representing Phyllis Summers. I’m with my client right now. Phyllis is ready to turn herself in.
Diane: I am not on Summer’s side, I am on yours. Kyle, wait, listen to me. I am on your side, only and always. Summer did a horrible thing and I don’t excuse her for it, but I am trying to look past it for your sake. If that’s what you want. I will not be the reason that you don’t have love in your life, so if it means ignoring Summer’s sins, then that’s what I’ll do.
Kyle: Look, I know you want to help, Mom, but I have to get through this my own way. And I will, okay?
[ Diane sighing ]
Kyle: You’re a good mom.
[ Diane laughing ]
Diane: Wasn’t always.
Kyle: Hey, hey, hey. Whatever happened in the past, you’re a good mom right in this second. I love you for it.
Diane: And I love you too. So much.
Kyle: Then, trust me. I’m doing what I need to do to take care of myself. You don’t have to worry.
[ Diane sighing ]
Lily: Honestly, I’m surprised that you’re even enamored with Victoria. Or is it just that she’s useful to you?
Nate: You’re never going to give me a chance, are you?
Lily: Honestly, Nate, this is me trying. [ Laughing ]
Nate: Then, let’s clear the air once and for all. My feelings for Victoria are very real. You don’t have to like her, but you do have to respect my decision. Otherwise, there’s no point in us talking about being a family.
Lily: How do you not realize that you dating Victoria throws everything that you two did to Devon and me in our faces? Do you really think that we’re just going to forget that?
Nate: Lily, did you forget that Devon tried to take you to court? Or did you forget that Devon and Abby cheated on Amanda and Chance, got caught red-handed? Humiliated them, but they’re treated like the happy new couple in town. Everyone’s moved on. I am just as happy with Victoria, but all you and everyone else can see is the past. I admit it. I crossed a line. And I am sorry I hurt Elena, but the truth is, I’ve never been more comfortable in my own skin than I am now, with Victoria.
Lily: Yeah, Nate, that’s what’s scary. It’s terrifying because Elena was your conscience, and Victoria can’t give you that. I mean, she’s pushing you to be bigger and better and collateral damage be damned.
Nate: For the record, I made the effort tonight.
Lily: Yeah.
Nate: But this is over. Enjoy the wine.
[ Door slamming ]
Christine: Well, this is where she said Phyllis would turn herself in.
Chance: If she’s been here this whole damn time–
Christine: You know, given how this is all played out, I don’t know if we can trust any of this. Even if Heather says it’s happening.
Chance: Well, if there was ever a wild card, it’s Phyllis, right? Where are you going?
Christine: You have outdone yourself. And who knew that was even possible? You have put this town through hell. You’ve devastated the people that love you, you’ve wasted public resources, and now, you just waft down the stairs like you’re some kind of prom queen? And your children. Who grieved you for dead right with you, even though one of them will be facing charges because of you. I hope you appreciate their loyalty, no matter what it costs them because it’s a hell of a lot more than you deserve.
Phyllis: Well, my children know I love them, Christine. They know that the reason I did what I did was–
Heather: My client will not be speaking until we get to the station.
Christine: It can’t happen soon enough. Good luck, Heather. You’re going to need it. You have stepped into one mess of a case.
Chance: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have right to hire a lawyer and have one present with you while you’re being questioned. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed to you by the state. Come on.
Diane: Okay, Mom talk is over. You are free to go wherever you’re off to.
[ Phone chiming ]
Diane: Excuse me. Tucker? Oh, my god. Is this what I think it is?
Kyle: Phyllis being arrested. Summer right by her side.
[ Diane scoffing ]
[ Kyle sighing ]
Announcer: Next week on “The Young And The Restless”.
Chance: I just– I love seeing you this way.
Heather: All I’m asking is that you keep an open mind. Don’t let your hatred for Phyllis keep you from doing the right thing.
Summer: Damn it! Just admit that you slept with Audra. You can give me that much at least–
Kyle: I am not doing this here.
Summer: Just yes or no. Say it!
Kyle: Summer.
Summer: Tell me the truth!
