Traci: I’m sorry. I was called away by the catering director. Has there been any news?
Jack: There have been reports of an ambulance in a terrible accident.
Traci: Oh, dear god. I-it can’t be phyllis.
Jack: There’s no confirmation. We haven’t heard any news. I don’t know why it is taking so long.
Traci: Alright. I guess we’ll just have to hear when we hear. I’m sure chance is doing everything he can.
Chance: What do you got?
Leanna: I saw you confabing with detective chancellor. You seemed close. Did he give you any inside scoop on what’s happening?
Sharon: Do you not see the worried look on everyone’s face? People are concerned about someone they love. No, chance didn’t give me any scoop. But if he did, I wouldn’t give it to you.
Michael: We don’t know if phyllis was in that crash.
Victoria: Michael, come on. Ambulances don’t just disappear. It seems like the logical reason that it didn’t make it to memorial.
Victor: Phyllis’s ambulance has not arrived.
Victoria: But we know that, daddy. Was she in the accident? Did you hear anything from your security team?
Victor: Well, there’s no sense in speculating, but I think chance is going to get to the bottom of it.
Michael: Agreed. Let the gcpd figure this one out.
Victoria: Yeah, but something is off here. Why was the ambulance on collins road?
[ Indistinct conversation ]
Victoria: It is.
Lauren: Gala is officially over.
Nikki: Yeah. We just said goodbye to the last of the guests.
Lauren: I can’t smile anymore. I want to know what happened to my friend.
Michael: It’s okay. Nikki, I’d be happy to take over anything left on your list just to keep busy.
Nikki: Thank you, michael. I appreciate it, but it — it’s not necessary.
Victoria: You know, the people in this room are really the only ones left. We’re all just waiting for word on phyllis.
Jeremy: Hey. How hard is it to track down an ambulance? Why don’t you know where my wife is yet?
Summer: His wife?
Daniel: The hell is he talking about?
Daniel: Stark, why are you referring to my mother as your wife?
Jeremy: Well, we got married three days ago. Didn’t phyllis tell you?
Summer: You’re a liar.
Jeremy: Well, I shared the marriage license with the rest of the nonbelievers. Here you go.
Summer: Is this for real?
Michael: While you and daniel were at the hospital, he shared this charade with the rest of us.
Kyle: Sorry, I forgot to tell you. There’s been a lot going on.
Summer: This makes no sense. I don’t believe this.
Jeremy: Why is it that gcpd can’t give timely updates? It’s an ambulance. It’s red. It has flashing lights. It can’t be that hard.
Chance: Hey, there’s enough anxiety in this room without you making it worse. Now, I have dispatched a team —
Jeremy: Was my wife in that accident?! That’s all I know want to know.
Daniel: Okay, hey. Hey, hey. Enough with the “my wife” stuff. Shut your mouth.
Summer: Chance is right. You’re just making this worse. You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?
Jeremy: Hardly. I’m surprised that phyllis didn’t fill you in on such wonderful news. But then again, you haven’t been on speaking terms with her lately, have you?
Danny: Hey, daniel, daniel.
Kyle: Whoa, whoa, whoa, no.
Danny: He’s not worth it. Let it go. Let it go.
Daniel: You got that right. I don’t know what’s going on here, but my mother would never marry a lowlife like you, not of her own free will.
Summer: And she wouldn’t have hid it from us either. I don’t care what you say. – Bedtime!! – Bedtime.

Tucker: J.T. Hellstrom. Wow. There’s a blast from the past. Why do you want to find him?
Audra: I take it you know each other?
Tucker: Very well. He used to work for me.
Audra: Interesting.
Tucker: Yeah. He pleaded guilty to attempted murder of victor newman. Went to prison for it. What do you want with him?
Audra: Well, I find mr. Hellstrom’s case fascinating.
Tucker: His criminal case?
Audra: Medical. He suffered a brain tumor that altered his personality and led him to violence. I’d love to feature him on a medical podcast hosted by dr. Elena dawson. It’d be a surefire hit.
Tucker: Well… [ Sighs ] I just realized that anything featuring J.T. Would have a profound effect on victoria. He attacked her, too, you know.
Audra: I do know that. And again, it was a tumor that made him act that way. Before that, it was a love story for the ages. Compelling, no?
Tucker: Yeah, but she’s your boss. It just seems to me that victoria would prefer not to have that chapter of her past on the internet in perpetuity. Not to mention victor and nikki. Have you thought about their reaction?
Audra: Of course.
Tucker: I don’t know. I don’t know, you got this good thing going in newman media. Why would you do anything to jeopardize it?
Audra: I assure you, I’ve thought of everything.
Nick: Hey.
Summer: Dad, thank god.
Nick: I got your text about the ambulance crashing. Your mom marrying stark? How is that even possible?
Summer: I have no idea, but I’m convinced that she is in serious danger. I mean, there’s got to be some sort of connection.
Nick: Yeah, I agree.
Summer: [ Sighs ] I’m just glad that you’re here.
Nick: Well, there was no point waiting at the hospital. I needed to be here with you if news came in.
Summer: Mom wasn’t in that accident. S-she wasn’t, and somebody should be at the hospital because that ambulance is going to arrive there are any minute.
Nick: Look, there are lots of doctors there to care for her if it does.
Summer: When it does. When.
Nick: So there’s no new information?
Daniel: No. Nothing.
Nick: What the hell is going on?
Leanna: Okay, you two are besties with phyllis. What did you think of her rant at diane before she collapsed? What could have provoked it?
Lauren: You know what? Get away from us, leanna, alright?
Michael: Okay. You want a quote on the record?
Leanna: Yeah.
Michael: Write this down — “no comment.”
Kyle: You okay?
Diane: Oh, yeah, I-I’m fine. How was summer doing?
Kyle: Holding on to hope. I was glad to see nick return. She needs him.
Diane: Yeah. You know, I-I’m thinking that maybe I should leave and just wait for everybody at the house.
Kyle: Why?
Diane: Well, everyone here is really concerned about phyllis, understandably so. But after all those hateful things that she and jeremy said to me, I just don’t want to cause any more pain by being here.
Kyle: Mom, none of this is your fault. Don’t let his lies drive you away. My dad and summer need your support right now. And so do I.
Traci: I’m so sorry, jack. This must be really hard for you. As frustrating as phyllis can be, I know there’s all this history.
Jack: Yeah, there is. I’m also worried about summer and daniel and diane.
Leanna: Jack, darling, talk to me.
Jack: I don’t think so.
Leanna: Phyllis and diane — a feud that’s been going on for years, over you, mostly.
Traci: Alright, that’s enough. Stop badgering these people. Don’t you have a shred of human decency?
Leanna: What kind of a question is that?
Jack: The last one you’re going to hear before you’re marched out the door.
Leanna: Oh, my gosh. Why is everyone so rude? I’m just doing my job.
Jack: Find different work. Nexgard is the flea and tick protection
Victor: I want that woman out of here.
Nick: I’ll take care of it.
Victor: Thank you, son.
Victoria: Look, you know what? It’s been quite a night. We could all use some rest. Why don’t we take off?
Victor: No, sweetheart, i want to know — I want to know exactly what happened. I want to be here for summer.
Nikki: Darling, can’t you put your team on that?
Victor: I sent someone there. They’re going to report back to me, okay? Just be patient.
Nikki: [ Sighs ] Well, rest does sound tempting, but I want to stay here for summer’s sake.
Nick: Well, I’m going to be here. I think vic has the right idea. You all should go home.
Victoria: Thank you. Yes. All we can do now is wait, and we don’t have to do that here.
Nick: Yeah, it’s late, and I promise you, I will keep you updated.
Victor: Thank you, son.
Nick: Mom?
Nikki: I guess I’m outnumbered.
Victor: Yes.
Victoria: You’ve had enough stress for one day. So… will you call me if anything happens?
Nick: Yeah.
Nikki: Oh, my darling. We’re going to head home. If there is anything that your grandfather and I can do for you.
Summer: You’re just a phone call away.
Nikki: Yes, that’s right.
Summer: Yes.
Nikki: I’m praying for a positive outcome.
Victoria: We all are.
[ Indistinct conversation ]
Victor: Take care, okay? Daniel.
Daniel: Thank you.
Diane: I, uh — I guess I picked a bad night to forget my tissues.
Jack: Oh, here. That’s what handkerchiefs are for.
Diane: Thank you.
Traci: Um, diane. Can I get you something? Would you like some water or tea?
Diane: No, no, I’m — I’m okay, traci. Kyle, honey, thank you for checking on me, but I — I know you want to be with your wife, as you should be.
Traci: Honey, I can stay here with your mom and dad. Summer needs you. You go ahead.
Kyle: Thank you. I know she’s terrified. I mean, phyllis has to be okay. She’s caused a lot of grief for all of us, but this can’t be how it ends, right?
Leanna: Jeremy stark. I’m leanna love.
Jeremy: I know who you are.
Leanna: Oh. That streamlines things.
Jeremy: What can I do for you?
Leanna: I know this has been a very scary night for you, and I’ll understand if you’re too distraught to speak with me. But if you’re up for a chat, I’d like to hear more about your side of the story.
Jeremy: Sure. Why not.
Leanna: Oh. Okay, um, mind if I record this?
Jeremy: Absolutely.
Leanna: Fabulous.
Nick: Time for you to leave.
Leanna: Says who?
Nick: Everyone in this room.
Leanna: [ Scoffs ] Please.
Nick: This is no longer a press event. This is a private family matter. Now you have two choices — you can either allow me to escort you out, or we’ll get club security, and I promise you, I’ll be far more of a gentleman.
Leanna: Okay, fine. So much for genoa city being a welcoming place. I’ll be in touch. I’d, um, love to continue our conversation.
Jeremy: Oh, we will.
Nikki: I’m so glad we stopped. I’m too rattled to go home.
Victor: I don’t blame you one bit. What a shocking ending to an evening.
Victoria: Well, I for one, am glad that you all agreed to call it a night, because that stark guy was starting to creep me out, hovering like a vulture.
Victor: Really?
Nikki: I am so sorry I even considered bringing that man to town. Although it was phyllis. It was her idea.
Victoria: We all have very complicated feelings about phyllis, but seeing her on the floor like that…
Nikki: Oh, I know. And se seemed so helpless. Nobody ever thinks that of her.
Victor: Sweetheart, who i feel sorry for the most is summer.
Nikki: Oh, I know. And poor daniel.
Victoria: I can only imagine how nicholas is feeling right now. I know they’re not together anymore, but I know they still care about each other.
Nikki: If I could go back in time, I would never have urged phyllis to go after diane. It only escalated their conflict.
Victor: Sweetheart.
Nikki: Well, if my involvement in any way led to phyllis being in that ambulance tonight…
Victor: You can’t blame yourself. Phyllis does what she wants to do. She always has. She doesn’t care what anyone thinks.
Victoria: What happened tonight was very unfortunate, but you’re not responsible for any of it.
Tucker: I suspect your interest in J.T. Hellstrom has nothing whatsoever to do with his medical history.
Audra: What makes you say that?
Tucker: The hours I just spent watching you and victoria and elena vie for nate’s attention.
Audra: Oh, don’t be ridiculous. Okay, I’m the C.O.O. Of newman media. I live for content that draws ratings, and so does nate.
Tucker: Okay. You’re playing with fire.
Audra: That never seemed to bother you.
Tucker: Oh, so you admit it?
Audra: Alright, honestly, you are reading too much into this.
Tucker: So where is this, uh — this podcast going to take place, in J.T.’S jail cell?
[ Chuckles ] The laundry? Exercise yard?
Audra: He, uh — he was released early.
Tucker: Was he really?
Audra: Yeah.
Tucker: Oh. What, good behavior?
Audra: That and, uh, the tumor. The parole board deemed it a mitigating circumstance.
Tucker: That’s convenient for you.
Audra: Trouble is, I haven’t been able to locate him. That’s where you come in. You know, you know people who can find people. Will you help?
Tucker: Yeah. I’ll find him for you. It’s going to cost you, though. My advice, in this one very specific case
Audra: So you expect something in return if you’re able to deliver J.T.?
Tucker: “Deliver?” No, no, no. That’s your problem. I’ll just tell you where to find him.
Audra: Fair enough. So my quid pro quo, what’s it going to be?
Tucker: I don’t know. But you’re going to have to consider yourself in my debt.
Audra: And what, I’m supposed to just agree to some unknown marker you can call in at any time? No, thanks. I’ll find him myself.
Tucker: Suit yourself. Even if I were able to track him down, I can’t see him wanting to talk to you.
Audra: Really? Why?
Tucker: Some complete stranger shining a big, bright light on his past — you don’t see a problem with that picture?
Audra: I mean, you know him. I don’T. I guess I’ll just take my chances.
Tucker: Although he might be willing to hear me out, considering our past. So… it might be useful after all.
Victor: I’m not so sure I like those two with their heads together.
Victoria: Oh, well, they’re old friends.
Nikki: Oh, why do I not find
that reassuring?
Victor: Now, you say nate vouches for her loyalty? But where in the world does a loyalty lie?
Nikki: Wherever they lie, I haven’t forgiven her for breaking noah’s heart.
Victoria: Mom, you can’t hold that against her. Relationships end. We don’t know the whole story. Besides, it has nothing to do with her business instincts, which nate and I trust, with good reason.
Nikki: Okay, well, I’ll have to take your word for it.
Victoria: You know, she is the one who told tucker about our plans to acquire mccall, which galvanized him to some degree. That was your thought also, so you must be able to appreciate her level of gamesmanship.
Nikki: Yeah, that works both ways, especially when you’re dealing with somebody like tucker.
Victor: I am curious to learn more about that woman and her skill set.
Victoria: Well, what do you want to know?
Nick: Here you go.
Sharon: Thank you. I saw you showing leanna the door.
Nick: Yeah. She didn’t need to be here anymore. It’s just an added layer of stress.
Sharon: Amen. How are you doing? Is there anything I can do to help? This situation with phyllis has got to be rough on you, too.
Nick: The only thing that matters is daniel and summer.
Sharon: Yeah. I hear you. Phyllis and I have a complicated past.
Nick: Yeah, to say the least.
Sharon: You know, there was a time when I wouldn’t have felt the slightest pang if she’d have dropped dead. And I think the feeling was mutual.
Nick: That sounds about right.
Sharon: We had a lot of reasons to hate each other. But, you know, when I was battling cancer, phyllis dropped the animosity overnight, and I don’t know who was more surprised by that, her or me. But I’m glad that phyllis found it in her heart to be friends to me when I really needed one.
Nick: You two have come full circle.
Sharon: Yeah, I guess we have. Because the last thing that I want to have happen tonight is for chance to give us terrible news. I want phyllis to be okay. But there’s nothing we can do until we know everything. We have to just hope for the best.
Lauren: I just don’t get it. I mean, how did this beautiful event turn into such a catastrophe? I feel like — I feel like I could have prevented this.
Michael: How?
Lauren: By continuing to make phyllis understand that this obsession she has with diane is just — it’s no good for her.
Michael: We asked her to back off. We warned her how many times?
Lauren: I know, so many times. And now —
Michael: Listen to me. I have never met anyone more determined than phyllis. Nobody can take her down. I got a feeling in my gut we’re going to hear good news soon.
Lauren: Can you imagine how upset she’s going to be when she finds out that we were worried?
Michael: [Mockingly] “Thanks for the vote of confidence, guys. Oh, ye of little faith.” Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Lauren: She’s going to give us holy hell. We’re going to take all the razzing that she could give, because you know what? Phyllis never surrenders.
Kyle: Summer, come sit with me.
Summer: No, I can’T. I’m too wound up. This waiting, it’s unbearable.
[ Cellphone ringing ]
Chance: What do you got? Are you sure? Yeah, I see. Um… you got everything you need out there? Alright. Keep me updated.
Jeremy: Well, is phyllis okay? Look, I want answers! I have a right to know.
Chance: We’re still collecting information at the moment.
Summer: Chance, please, tell us something, anything.
Chance: The ambulance that crashed… it was phyllis’S. And now we’re still waiting on more details. But it appears that the accident caused an explosion.
[ Gasps ] Life… doesn’t stop for diabetes.
“The young and the restless”
will continue. We’re here today to set the record
[ Indistinct conversations ]
Nick: I’m gonna go check on summer.
Traci: Sweetie. Here, have a seat, summer. Come on, honey, please.
Summer: Mom is okay. I know that she’s okay.
Kyle: Hey, hey.
Summer: No, we don’t —
Kyle: Sit down.
Summer: We don’t have any of the details yet. Yes, the ambulance exploded, but the fire department is on the scene. T-that’s what chance said, right?
Nick: Yeah, that’s what chance said.
Summer: So there’s a chance. There has to be.
Diane: Oh, gosh, this news just keeps getting worse. Oh, jack, I am — I am so sorry. I should be supporting you.
Jack: No, don’t apologize.
Diane: No, no.
Jack: It’s upsetting for everyone.
Diane: No, no, I’ve been insensitive. I know how much you care about phyllis.
Danny: Hey, look at me. There is no one tougher on this earth than phyllis. Your mother is a survivor. She always has been. If there’s a way out of that accident, I trust she’d find it.
Daniel: There was a crash, an explosion, a fire that they’re still trying to fight. I know she’s strong, but… you think she can beat that? Hm? Can anyone?
Danny: Just know I’m here for you. Okay? No matter what. Come here. Come here.
Audra: What you say is true. You are, on occasion, useful for something.
Tucker: Oh. Gee, audra, you know when you say it like that, I just get warm and fuzzy inside.
Audra: But what kind of businesswoman would I be if I hand you over a blank check for you to cash in whenever you felt like it?
Tucker: Well, suppose I were to specify that the return favor were to be of comparable value to my finding J.T. For you? What’s that — that phrase that lawyers are so fond of saying? Uh, “to be negotiated in good faith.”
Audra: I’m still not sure about this little arrangement, but I’ll think about it.
Tucker: Don’t think too long about it. My generosity has limits.
Audra: Your generosity?
Tucker: Yeah.
Audra, okay, that’s funny.
Tucker: Is it?
Audra: You know, we have way too much history for you to try and play tough with me now. But fine, okay, I will get back to you in a timely fashion.
Victor: You’re sure about that? Thank you.
[ Sighs ] It’s confirmed. The ambulance that phyllis was in crashed.
Nikki: How is she?
Victor: Apparently, the ambulance is on fire. They’re trying to contain the fire. No word on how phyllis is doing.
Victoria: Oh, god. Poor summer.
Nikki: I have to call nicholas and summer back.
Audra: Hello. I was just on my way out and I thought I’d stop in and say hello.
Victoria: I’m actually surprised to see you here. I thought you were calling it a night.
Audra: Yeah, but with all the drama going on in there, I needed to wind down a little first, so I stopped in for a nightcap.
Victoria: Lucky for you, tucker was here.
Audra: Actually, he invited himself to join me.
Victor: Why don’t you join us for a moment?
Audra: Oh, well —
Victor: Please, sit down.
Audra: Thank you, victor. I’d love to.
Victor: So you and tucker seemed to be in a deep conversation. Why don’t you tell me what it was all about?
Audra: I’m just keeping our enemies close. Hi. I keep my home fresh with febreze fade defy plug.
Victor: Well, to be honest with you, I do not consider mccall a worthy adversary. I know his company is over-leveraged, and he’s looking for a buyer.
Audra: Good point.
Victor: So were you able to talk him into selling to me?
Audra: Only if devon turns him down. To be focusing on. Get him to give his father a flat out no, and newman will be in a much better position.
Victoria: Well, considering everything that devon has been through lately, I would not be surprised if he said yes.
Victor: But, darling, I have some news on that front. Devon tells me that he’s dropping his lawsuit. That means he and lily will work things out and stay put.
Victoria: Well, that’s very interesting.
Victor: Yes.
Victoria: So unless he’s willing to juggle two very large conglomerates, it seems like a path has been opened for us.
Victor: Well, that’s my take.
Victoria: Do you know if devon has made his decision?
Victor: Uh-uh. But I’m confident.
Audra: Of course you are. You’re victor newman. Alright. It really is getting late. I’ll leave you to your strategizing. See you at the office.
Victoria: Good night, audra.
Audra: Good night, mr. Newman.
Victor: Good night, audra.
Traci: Hey, danny. How you holding up? This whole thing is just so hard to comprehend, isn’t it? I mean, phyllis — I thought she was invincible.
Danny: Yeah, I know what you mean. Hey, how is summer doing?
Traci: Well, she’s trying to remain hopeful. Thank god she has kyle and nick.
Danny: Yeah. If, uh — if the worst should happen, she’s going to need a lot of support.
Traci: Yeah. How’s daniel holding up?
Danny: I can’t tell. He’s — he’s not saying much.
Traci: Oh, he must be scared out of his wits.
Danny: If I’d have to guess, I’d say he’s filled with a lot of anger. You know, daniel, he’s pretty much alone these days. Heather and lucy are in europe, and their relationship coming to an end, and, you know, he and his mother have all this tension. And you add in some guilt and…
Traci: Well, I’ll tell you. Thank god you’re here. I’m sure it means the world to him.
Danny: I wish there was more I could do.
Traci: I bet. But just your presence brings him so much comfort. Trust me.
Danny: Thank you for saying that.
Traci: Yeah.
Danny: You’re a wonderful friend.
Traci: [ Chuckles ]
Chance: I brought you in to help piece together what happened tonight, how the accident went down. Look, I understand it’s been rough. Officer on the scene said you were lucky to survive.
I told him what went down.
Chance: I understand that. It’s important that I hear your account firsthand, okay? I want to hear directly from you what happened.
Jeremy: No damn respect.
Jack: What was that?
Jeremy: The police keeping us in the dark doesn’t instill confidence.
Daniel: Are you for real?
Jeremy: Think about it. How do you lose an ambulance and then have no real-time updates from the scene of a fire? What, are they incompetent or what?
Daniel: You’re talking about my mother.
Jeremy: I’m talking about my wife.
Daniel: Look, they’re safe. And stop calling her your wife.
Kyle: Daniel.
Daniel: Man, what are you even doing here, stark? This event was for friends and family. You’re neither.
Jeremy: Oh, I got news for you, daniel — we are family. Your mother and I got married three days ago, and it’s all legal and binding, whether you want to believe it or not.
Daniel: “If I want to believe or not.” I don’t believe it. There. That’s what I think of it.
Jeremy: [ Laughs ] That’s funny. You know, your mom would have done the same thing. The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, does it?
Daniel: Shut your mouth and get out of here. Nobody wants you here.
Jeremy: Oh, yeah? And who’s going to make me leave? You? [ Laughs ]
Nick: Actually, that’ll be me. I don’t know what your deal is. I don’t buy this marriage to phyllis. But look around this room. There are people who love her, who have known her for decades. Her kids are here. Now, I will throw your ass out of here, or you can shut up and let chance do his job. Kids are so expensive, dad. Now katie needs braces.
Chance: Okay, go over this with me one more time. First of all, you stated that diane jenkins took a ring out of the patient’s hand while she was strapped to the gurney?
That’s right. Right before we transported her to the vehicle.
Chance: Any idea why?
No. I think it was hers. She — she showed it to mr. Abbott right after.
Okay, I’ll try to get you also stated that the patient that you were transporting to memorial, phyllis summers, she regained consciousness in route, right?
That’s correct.
Chance: Now, did she know where she was, what happened to her?
I’m not sure. I mean, her eyes were open and she was looking straight at me, but she wasn’t responding to any of my questions. And she kept whispering the words, “poison. Poison.”
Chance: Okay, so you drew blood for a tox screen?
That’s correct.
Chance: And while you were doing that, what happened?
Well, the driver, young, man, I guess he got distracted or something. Maybe a deer or another animal. The vehicle, I-it spun around and it went off the road and it crashed. Back doors blew open on impact. I was thrown from the ambulance, 20 feet, maybe?
Chance: And the patient? She was strapped to the gurney?
Yes, sir. That’s, uh — that’s a standard procedure. We do restraints across the shoulders, the chest, the waist, the lower legs.
Chance: Was the driver wearing a seatbelt?
Yeah, he was.
Chance: How do you know that? If you were in the back and he was in the front…
Well, after the crash, the vehicle caught fire, and I — I ran around to the driver’s side and I saw that young was unconscious. He was belted in. And the flames — the flames came roaring out. I mean, the entire vehicle was just completely engulfed. They were trapped inside. I couldn’t get to them. I couldn’t save them.
Victoria: How could you do that to me?
Victor: Do what to you?
Victoria: You just drop the news about devon and the lawsuit in front of audra? Why didn’t you tell me earlier?
Victor: Sweetheart, you know what the evening was like? I didn’t have time to inform you, that’s all.
Victoria: You don’t even know why I’m upset, do you?
Victor: No, I have no idea why you’re upset.
Victoria: Well, I do. Look.
Victor: Look.
Victoria: I need to stay one step ahead of my employees, okay?
Victor: Oh.
Victoria: I can’t be caught off guard by some major news like that. I need to know more than — than she does.
Victor: Okay, point well taken.
Victoria: Thank you.
Nikki: Nicholas hasn’t heard any more than your investigator.
Victoria: How does he seem?
Nikki: He’s upset.
Victor: What about summer?
Nikki: She’s trying to be brave. Nicholas is worried about what the next update might bring.
Victor: Oh, for heaven’s sake. Nothing worse than losing a family member. I just wish I could have spared all this.
Nikki: [ Sighs ] You know, can we please go home? We can hear more about phyllis from there.
Victor: I’d love to go home. We’re both exhausted.
Nikki: Yeah, we’ve had enough for one evening. Good night, darling.
Victoria: I’m going to go home, too. I’m just going to finish my drink.
Victor: Keep us informed, okay?
Victoria: I will. I love you. Muah. Me going. Good night.
Victor: Good night. Can I buy you a drink?
Tucker: I’d be delighted.
Chance: It’s been confirmed. Phyllis didn’t make it.
Summer: [ Sobbing ]
[ Summer sobbing ]
Chance: I’m so sorry for your loss.
[ Summer continues crying ] Very much in the past, hyllis.Diane: Maybe you should have gone
Diane: Hey.
Jack: Hey.
Diane: Maybe you should have gone home with kyle and summer. It’s good to be with family at a time like this.
Jack: Yeah, much as I might like to, I — I don’t want to go anywhere until I know everything that happened to phyllis. I can’t believe this has happened. She’s gone.
Diane: I know you loved her very much in the past, and that’s a lot of history that nothing can erase.
Jack: Thank you for saying that. You know what? My grief can wait. I’m concerned about you. Stark has made a very strong argument to chance that you and phyllis were an ongoing war, that you threatened her life in front of witnesses, that she had your engagement ring in her hand when she collapsed.
Diane: Yeah, but those things can be explained. I was angry when I made that threat, I — jack, I didn’t mean it. And — and the ring? I mean, jeremy pickpocketed you and gave it to phyllis. I don’t know why, but that’s clearly what happened.
Jack: It’s his word against yours.
Diane: [ Sighs ]
Jack: And the only person that knows the truth… is phyllis.
Diane: Jack.
Jack: Look, whatever he’s playing at, I’m sorry to say, his end game is punishing you. That’s why I have to stay here. I want to know every move that stark makes. I want to know every piece of information that chance gathers. If you want to be with summer and kyle, I understand that. You go ahead.
Diane: No, I — I don’t think summer wants to see me right now. Just how — how horribly sad is it that phyllis’s last conscious moments were spent attacking us, and summer witnessed it? The — the memory of tonight is going to haunt that poor girl for the rest of her life.
Ashley: Jack?
[ Door closes ] Where’s jack? Is he with you? What’s the matter? What happened?
Summer: [Crying] My mom is dead.
Abby: I wasn’t expecting the “l” word. [ Chuckles ]
Devon: You weren’t? What are you talking about? You already know that I love you. How could I not love you after everything that we are to each other? Everything that you’ve brought into my life. I have a son because of you, and that’s made my world bigger than I ever could have imagined for myself.
Abby: And I see dom as a gift that you gave me.
Devon: He’s a gift to both of us. And he brought us together. But that’s not the only reason that I love you.
Abby: Oh. I know what it is. It’s because I told the servers at society to give you an extra helping of those sweet potatoes that you likes so much. That’s it, right?
Devon: That’s up there, yeah. No. [ Laughs ] No. I love you because you always want what’s best for me, no matter what. And you’ve helped me every step of the way. When I went to war with lily and you reminded me always that family comes first. And then tonight, you surprised me with that incredible tribute to neil, and that just opened everything up for me and put things into perspective and made me finally hear what you’ve been saying to me all along.
Abby: I’m just happy that you and lily were able to move past the ugliness.
Devon: Yeah. Because of you.
Abby: You would have found your way.
Devon: But we did find our way because of you. You can take the credit. You’ve always, always been there for me, and you always listen to me. You never judge. You’ve been doing that for long before dominic got here. Do you remember when I said to you that I would move heaven and earth for you and our son? Well, I meant that, and I want to prove it to you every single day, here in our home, the three of us.
Danny: Hey, jack.
Jack: Hey.
Danny: Any idea what chance is working on? I mean, daniel insists on sticking around, but, you know —
Jack: I am afraid we’re in the dark as much as you are.
Danny: Yeah, I understand why he has all these questions about what’s happening. I’m having a tough time accepting that phyllis is really gone.
Jack: Yeah, so am I. There were times when I loved her so completely, and times where, like recently, I wanted her to be 100 miles away. But in the end, for better or for worse, she’s been a major factor in my life for decades now.
Danny: Yeah. For the longest time, I… I thought phyllis was the biggest mistake I’d ever made. I kept daniel away from her when he was a kid because I thought she was too toxic. And… well, over the holidays, we, the three of us, had this amazing conversation, and I, uh — I don’t know, we — we got it all out there, you know, made amends and… for a second, I… I thought maybe we’d be friends.
Nick: I don’t think it’d be lost on phyllis — the three of us standing around talking about her.
Jack: Yeah, you’re probably right.
Jeremy: Please. Please. How dare you cry crocodile tears for a woman who you all disrespected, discarded.
Jack: Get lost.
Jeremy: Phyllis told me everything. The rock ‘n’ roll guy who broke her heart for some do-gooder lawyer. The newman heir who could never manage to stay with one woman for too long. And of course, jack, who dumped phyllis and took up with a woman who betrayed you in the worst possible way. My wife is dead. We planned a future, a future that’s never going to happen. So I am not going anywhere till I make sure we get justice.
Jack: Then how about letting the gcpd do their work?
Jeremy: Oh, yeah, the same gcpd that looked the other way when you and diane tried to frame me for theft?
Jack: This is not about you and your grievances and your demands. Shut up or get out of here.
Jeremy: Make no mistake, jack — no matter how the cops handle this investigation, I will not let you or diane get away with what you’ve done. Martial arts is my passion.
“The young and the restless”
will continue. We’re here today to set the record
Victoria: You know, I’ve had a lifetime of practice of dealing with my father. However, I am the ceo of newman enterprises, so I have the power to shape the company the way that I see fit.
Tucker: But wouldn’t acquiring mccall and not allowing adam to run it just create a bunch of conflict for you?
Victoria: Sometimes the risk is worth the reward.
Tucker: Sometimes it isn’T. And you don’t strike me as a good loser.
Victoria: Maybe you’re right. Maybe it doesn’t make any sense trying to acquire mccall.
Kyle: There you go, sweetheart.
Ashley: This should warm you up. Honey. I’m so sorry about your mom. I hope you know that I and — and everybody in our family will do whatever we can to support you. This is unbelievable. I mean, phyllis had more life in her than anybody I know.
Summer: [ Sighs ] You don’t have to pretend like my mom was your favorite person. It’s fine.
Ashley: I know. I mean, we were not best friends. Uh, we managed to… I mean, we did — we had some common ground the last few months. The one thing I know about your mom is that she was so fearless. I mean, when she wanted something, she just went for it. She didn’t care what other people thought. I mean, except for her kids, of course. You know, everything she did, even though it might have looked like it was crazy to the outside world, she did to protect the people that she loved, and summer, you’re at the top of that list. She’s been fighting for you, I mean, ever since the day you were born in that elevator. And then when you fell into a coma, she willed you back to us. You meant everything to her.
Summer: I wasn’t always the best daughter, was I?
Kyle: Hey.
Summer: [ Sighs ]
Kyle: [Indistinct] And whatever was going on, everything your mom did over the years, including being dead set against you being involved with me because she thought you were too young, it was out of love.
Ashley: I hope someday, you realize, you’ll look back and you — and you’ll see that none of that matters. None of that negativity, none of the bad stuff matters. The only thing that really lasts is the love — the love that she had for you.
Chance: That container of phyllis’s blood exists. I’ll need a court order to get a test.
I’ll get right on it.
Chance: And keep this quiet, alright? Nobody needs to hear anything until we have concrete evidence. That goes for inside and outside the department. Nobody needs to know.
Understood.
Chance: Now, assuming that is a viable sample, it might be our only real shot at finding out why phyllis collapsed. Maybe she wasn’t feeling well. Or maybe we’re investigating more than just an accident. My advice, in this one very specific case
Abby: I mean, I-it’s just a big decision, you know, and there’s a lot of things to consider.
Devon: I know.
Abby: Like…
Devon: I know. I know we have to consider chance, I do.
Abby: I mean, it could affect our whole visitation arrangement that we have, and I remember the last time he came here to pick up dominic. I mean, it was very awkward.
Devon: I know, I know. But moving forward, we don’t have to have him come here. We can always drop dominic at his place, right? That’s solved. What else is there?
Abby: Me.
Devon: What’s wrong with you?
Abby: I mean, I — [ Scoffs ] I cheated on my husband, I blew up my whole life, and moving in here that fast?
Devon: Well, I mean, when you put it like that. No, listen, I’m never gonna feel good about how things happened either. But are we just worried about what people are gonna think?
Abby: This just all happened so quickly.
Devon: Does finding true happiness ever happen too quickly?
Abby: I guess, if I’m being completely honest…
[ Chuckles ]
Devon: Hm?
Abby: I do care about how people will see things, how they’ll see me.
Devon: I understand. I understand completely. And I also don’t — I never want you to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. I just — I just know that since losing neil the way we did and hilary and even phyllis collapsing tonight, life isn’t promised to us, right? And I don’t want to hold myself back from being happy just because of how some people might think about my choices. I remember something that you told me I never forgot. You said that you should make decisions based on how you see the future and not how you feel about the past. Remember that?
Abby: Yeah.
Devon: It’s true. It’s absolutely true because, I mean, you and I, we’ve basically done everything we can to make up for what we did. And that’s in the past. And I’m ready to enjoy the future.
Abby: [ Sighs ]
Devon: And that future is you, me, and dominic. So here goes my second attempt. Will you move in with me?
Daniel: Thank you.
Sharon: [ Sighs ] It’s hard, isn’t it? I mean, it’s almost impossible to fathom that someone was in this world and that has changed.
Daniel: It just doesn’t seem real.
Sharon: That’s a totally normal reaction when someone you love dies, especially when it’s unexpected.
Daniel: No, no, no, no. This — this is more than that. I mean, none of this makes any sense, and I’m not talking about just tonight. I was with my mom the first time I saw stark. You know what she told me? She told me the guy was a criminal and that he was dangerous, and she meant it. And now what? Now I’m supposed to believe that they got married three days ago? And w-what’s with the way that she just faded and fell to the ground? And her ambulance, it just has this one in a million freak accident? I’m sorry.
Sharon: For what?
Daniel: I didn’t even think about it until now.
Sharon: About what?
Daniel: Cassie. I know the circumstances are different, but all these years later, any time there’s an accident on the road, I still think about her.
Sharon: Neither one of us will ever forget that night. I remember feeling just how you do now, like nothing felt real. And the wisdom that I gained from her tragedy was life is not always logical. Sometimes very bad things happen for no good reason.
Daniel: I keep thinking about the last conversation that I had with my mother. She told me how much she loved me. She told me how proud she was of me. And then she told me how sorry she was because our relationship had been strained recently.
Sharon: I’m glad you got to hear that. In time, that will hopefully bring you some peace.
Daniel: Maybe if I had been nicer to her.
[ Chuckles ] Right? Nope. Nope. I had to freeze her out. I mean, I felt bad about it. I was planning on sitting down with her and talking to her, apologizing, telling her that I loved her. And… now I guess I won’t get that chance.
Sharon: I’m so sorry, daniel.
Daniel: You know, the way my mom came to me, too, though, it was just — it was off. It was out of nowhere. It’s like she had a premonition that something bad was gonna happen. But if she did, then why wouldn’t she do something to stop it? Or why wouldn’t she do something to stop him?
Jeremy: There she is, the woman of the hour. So tell me, how did you do it? How did you kill my wife?
Jack: That’s enough.
Jeremy: I know you’re to blame, diane. You’re the brains of the operation. Jack’s some — some lapdog.
Diane: I didn’t do anything, jeremy, and you know that.
Daniel: What you do to my mother, stark? Did you brainwash her? You blackmail her? Is that how you got her to marry you? Huh? Are you the reason that she’s dead?
Jeremy: Look, I — I know you must be devastated, you know, about losing your mom, you know, looking for answers, blame someone. Let me help you out with that. Phyllis got so close to me so fast because everyone else, including you, turned their backs on her. So if you want to pin her death on someone, look in the mirror.
Danny: Wait, whoa, whoa.
Jeremy: Hey!
Danny: Whoa, whoa, whoa. It’s ok. It’s ok. It’s ok. Shh, shh, shh. Migraine hits hard, so u hit back with ubrelvy
Abby: I just need a little more time to think.
Devon: I understand. I really do. I just know it has to be uncomfortable, living in chance’s family home.
Abby: Yeah, but, I mean, it’s been dominic’s base camp. It’s the place where he was born. And I know that he would love to spend more time with you and more time here, but… I’ve already disrupted his life so much recently. I don’t want this to just be another thing he has to adjust to.
Devon: I do. I do. And that’s the last thing I want to do is stress that little guy out.
Abby: This isn’t a no. It’s not. I just — I want to do this the right way for everyone involved.
Devon: Well, that right there is another reason why I love you.
Abby: There is something that you need to know.
Devon: What do I need to know?
Abby: I love you too. And the one thing I am very, very, very certain about is that anywhere I am with you feels like home.
Tucker: Just like that, just now, you’ve changed your mind about buying my company?
Victoria: Well, you made some very valid points. There are more lucrative investments, for sure. And while I think I am more confident than you are that I would be successful at pushing adam out of mccall, I just wouldn’t want to be wrong about that. I wouldn’t want to make it easy for him. So I’m rescinding my offer.
Tucker: I see. Wow, I didn’t realize I was that persuasive. Or is this some kind of reverse psychology?
Victoria: No, you are. You are actually that persuasive. I’m beginning to understand how you were able to win ashley over. Well, you should enjoy the rest of your evening, tucker.
Tucker: I will.
Victoria: Because newman’s courtship of mccall is officially over.
Summer: Thank you for saying those nice things about my mom.
Ashley: It’s all true. She loves you so much.
Summer: [Crying] I know.
Kyle: Oh, it’s ok. It’s ok.
Summer: I’m gonna — I’m gonna go upstairs and check on harrison.
Ashley: She’s being so brave, but I know she’s devastated.
Kyle: I think she’s gonna get a lot worse before she gets better.
Danny: Daniel, this guy isn’t worth it.
Daniel: Son of a bitch!
Danny: Daniel, come on.
Daniel: No, no, no, you did something to my mother! I know you had something to do with this, and I’m gonna make you pay for it, watch!
Jeremy: Look, we all grieve differently, but trust me, I’m just as eager to punish the real culprit or culprits.
Nick: Chance, do you have an update?
Chance: Well, first of all, I want to say how sorry I am. I understand how much you cared for phyllis, and I am aware of the impact that her loss will have on each one of you.
Jeremy: Quit stalling. Is there any new information?
Chance: I have interviewed the emt again, and I have been in constant contact with the hospital as well as the fire department, and unfortunately, I have nothing new to report. Now, it has been a very long night, I understand that. And I think it’s time for everyone to go home and get some rest.
Jeremy: This is unacceptable.
Chance: Stark, I will inform you as the investigation progresses. You have my word.
Jeremy: All this time with the emt, your heads together? Come on. There’s more that you’re not telling us.
Chance: Stop.
Jeremy: I’m not leaving here until you give us the facts
Chance: Again, I have nothing new. Now, if you would like to push the issue, officer thompson here will escort you down to the station. You two can talk all the facts you want.
Jeremy: This isn’t over.
Chance: I am truly sorry for your loss, daniel.
[ Indistinct conversation ]
Jack: Daniel’s not the only one you’re gonna have to worry about.
You really think one of them could have harmed phyllis summers?
Chance: Maybe. We’ll know more when we get the results back from the blood test. If there’s something in her system that shouldn’t have been, it’s possible what happened to phyllis wasn’t an accident. It’s possible somebody was trying to kill her.
