THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!
[soft dramatic music]
“When I first saw you, “that’s when I knew the truth. “You are the most beautiful, wonderful thing I’ve ever seen, and that’s all I ever need to know.”
Wow. Talk about big feelings. That’s pretty romantic.
Yeah, it is. [romantic music] And I feel the same way about you.
Doug? Are you thinking about your grandfather?
[exhales sharply] [soft dramatic music]
[knocks]
Holly.
Hi.
Hi.
Can I come in?
Yeah, yeah. Of course. Is, uh-
is everything OK?
Uh, yeah. Is anyone else home?
No.
Oh.
Why?
Uh, my grandma said your mom was released from Statesville.
Yeah, yeah. She was. It was a total surprise.
Wow. Well, it must have been really great to see her. Figured I should come say hi. I know you said she’s cool with us being together, but I think the last time I saw her might have been prom.
Oh, wow.
Yeah. So I was sort of hoping for a do-over. I brought her a lemon bars.
Aw, that is really sweet. I’m sure she would love that, but, actually, she just left town.
Oh. [tense music]
Rafe.
Hey.
It’s good to see you.
Yeah, you too.
Yeah.
Just missed Gabi, actually. She was heading back to work.
Heading back? She’s usually off by now.
Yeah, I think she’s mostly trying to take her mind off of things.
Makes sense. It’s killing her, knowing EJ’s still a free man after what he did to you. Hey, look, I’ve already told this to Gabi. I want to make sure you hear it from me. I won’t rest until we bring that bastard to justice.
All right, well, uh, I appreciate that. And hopefully, tonight, you can get some sleep.
Jada and I just followed a lead, and hopefully we’ve got the means to nail the guy.
[siren blaring distantly]
Fine. I will have her tell you everything she knows. Are you happy now?
Thrilled.
[sighs] I’m not going to have her sign this until I get a lawyer to look it over.
It’s not a negotiation. You’re not going to get a better offer.
Yeah, I figured as much. I just want to know that it says exactly what you were pitching to me. Hm? No loopholes or whatever. We both want this to be done by the book, don’t we?
Of course. Do your due diligence. But don’t take too long. The clock is ticking. The second we find enough evidence to bring EJ to trial, that offer is null and void, and your mother and your brother, they can kiss their freedom goodbye.
Fine. I told you she would do this. Now, as soon as Melinda tells me that this immunity agreement is ironclad, I am sure that my mother will be happy to take EJ down.
My God. She’s brokering an immunity deal for you, isn’t she?
Don’t be cross with my daughter. If I tell the cops what I know, then they won’t send me away. It’s not her fault she’s responsible for me.
Oh, I’m sure it’s tearing her up inside.
[exhales deeply] OK. Thank you.
For what?
For fair warning.
What are you doing? [keypad beeping]
Oh, I’m just, uh, fetching a few things I’ll need for on the run. My passport, cash, et cetera.
Well, you can’t run forever. They-
they won’t rest until they bring you in, not after I testify against you.
[exhales deeply] You won’t be testifying against anyone. You see, once I inject you with this serum, you won’t remember seeing me or Rafe in that dusty old house of yours. In fact, you won’t remember much of anything.
[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”
You know, I’m always catching you with that poetry book in your hand.
Yeah, I-
I like reading the little notes that my grandfather wrote to you. It’s almost like getting to know him.
Time well spent. Well, you know, I love talking about him, and I’d love to tell you anything, so ask me anything.
Oh, man. Uh, let me think. Um, I guess if he were here, I would ask him advice on how to talk to girls.
Oh.
I’m always stumbling over my words.
Oh, dear me. [chuckles] Well, I think your grandfather would tell you there are lots of ways to tell a girl you love her without words. A look, a touch, maybe humming a melody, and always dancing together. Yeah, your grandfather and I would twirl around this room after we came home from a romantic dinner.
Did you do that a lot?
It was our Friday night tradition. I’ve told you we had this wonderful nightclub called Doug’s Place. Well, whenever another restaurant opened in town, Doug would insist that we go try it out. I think the last one we tried out was the Bistro.
I haven’t tried that place. How is it?
Oh, It’s lovely. The ambience is beautiful. Food’s delicious. [tender music] I haven’t been back since your grandfather passed away, but–
Doug, how would you like to take me to the Bistro for dinner?
That would be amazing. I mean, I think it might be a bit out of my price range, but–
Oh, don’t be silly. You’d be my guest. Unless you have other plans.
No, no, I’m free as a bird.
Wait, your mom left town after being released today?
Yeah, she went to California to be with my Grandma Kimberly.
Oh, I guess that makes sense. She wants to see her mom. So when will she be back? [somber music]
She’s actually planning on staying there a while.
My grandma’s leukemia came back.
Oh, God.
We just found out.
Tate, I’m so sorry.
[knocks]
Come in.
Hey.
Hey, you.
Hey.
I didn’t know you were coming by.
Well, I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I would. I thought, uh, maybe you could sneak out for dinner?
Oh, I would love to, but I’m not sure I should leave the office right now.
Uh-oh.
No, no, it’s– it’s good news. Kristen DiMera was just here, and I secured Rachel Blake’s testimony.
Well, sounds like our friend EJ is in big trouble. [tense music]
Thanks to the magic potion in this syringe, my troubles will soon be over.
That’s what you gave Rafe Hernandez, wasn’t it? That’s why he can’t remember what happened in my home, and now I’m not going to remember either.
A brilliant deduction, Mother Blake. You’re obviously very shrewd, but not shrewd enough to refuse to testify against me. But since you won’t be quiet on your own volition, I’m just going to have to give you a little nudge. Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh. Uh-uh-uh-uh-uh.
Ow. Please, please, I won’t say anything. I promise.
Well, it can’t hurt to be sure.
Tate, I’m so sorry you and your family are going through all this. Do you want to talk about it?
I mean, there’s not really much else to say.
OK, well, if you need anything, I’m here for you.
Why are you being so nice to me?
What do you mean? I love you, Tate. You know that, right?
I do, yeah. It just-
I thought you were angry with me, since we had that fight and said all those things about your friend Doug. [soft dramatic music]
I am so happy to be going to the Bistro again for dinner.
Well, I’m so sorry you’ve been missing it. If you had told me before tonight, I would have been happy to go with you.
Oh, I haven’t had much appetite lately.
Well, I’m glad you’re finally feeling up to it.
Yeah. Me too. [chuckles] [clears throat] Although I am feeling sorry for everybody at home that’s going to be having leftovers for dinner.
Did I hear something about leftovers?
JJ! Oh. Oh, gosh, this is perfect. How would you like to join Doug and me for dinner at the Bistro right now? Unless you have plans with Gabi.
Nope. She’s still at the office.
Ah, what a pity. Well, then, looks like I’ll have two gallant men escorting me into dinner. Elbows, elbows, and out we go. And, gosh, what a lucky old lady I am. [relaxed music]
Well, this must be my lucky day.
Yes. And mine too. Although no big surprise. I knew Kristen would agree to the deal eventually. She would do anything to protect her mother from prosecution.
And she’s confident that Rachel Blake will sign the statement?
In exchange for not going to prison? I don’t see why she wouldn’t. Kristen just had to get over her loyalty to EJ, but now that she’s on board, I consider it a done deal.
That’s great. So you’re just waiting for her to come back with the signature.
Yeah, she wanted the DiMera general counsel to look over it first, but I doubt that’ll take long. It’s pretty clear-cut.
Right, right. So it sounds like we’re just waiting for Melinda Trask to come through for us, then, huh?
I am glad you are so punctual.
I am when I know a perfect martini will be waiting for me. What was so urgent?
Well, I need you to take a look at that.
An immunity agreement…
Yeah.
For your mother?
Mm-hmm. Jada got the DA’s office to agree not to seek prosecution for the crimes my mother may or may have not committed in exchange for her testimony against my brother.
[grunts]
Ouch! Ow!
Oh, my apologies for the discomfort. But if it’s any consolation, in a moment, you won’t– you won’t remember anything. [clears throat] Ordinarily, I’d have had Dr. Rolf calibrate the amount so your memory loss would be limited to Rafe’s visit to Aremid, but I’m afraid time is of the essence, so I had to give you the full dose, so if there is anything important you would like me to tell your daughter, you should probably say so now.
You spineless, soulless, self-serving snake.
Um, is that the message you would like me to relay on to Kristen? [tense music]
Who’s Kristen?
Whoa. That was fast.
[soft dramatic music]
This is nice.
What? Waiting for Kristen’s attorney to look over an immunity agreement?
Seeing you back in the office.
You mean that?
Of course, I mean that. I mean, it’s just nice that things are finally starting to get back to normal after Feniger screwed everything up. And Paulina reinstated you, you’re back to where you belong, putting the bad guys behind bars.
Starting with EJ DiMera.
Exactly.
So you’re not just sitting here with me because you– I don’t know, you miss your old office?
No. Listen, I may have some memory issues, but I do remember the way that things panned out. See, this way I get to be the scrappy private investigator who is engaged to the ruthless and yet, oh, so gorgeous police commissioner, and I could not be happier.
Likewise.
There is actually one thing that would make me happier.
And what’s that?
To make you my wife.
So? What do you think? Is my mother protected as Jada promised me?
I have to admit, I didn’t exactly have high expectations. The DA’s office has been a mess since I turned my keys in, but this looks like everything’s in order. This is a great deal for your mother and a hard break for EJ.
Oh, wonderful.
You can go ahead and tell your mother to testify.
OK.
Have her sign it, and I’ll make sure it’s filed with the court. [relaxed music]
My God. That is my grandmother’s necklace.
Poor thing. You’re as innocent as a newborn babe. [chuckles] Aren’t you, Rachel Blake?
Who’s-
who’s Rachael Blake? And who are you?
No, no, no. No need to get worked up. It’s OK.
Oh, no, I– I don’t understand. How did I get here? What’s going on, EJ?
Hush now. Everything’s going– hang about. How did you know my name? You just said my name.
No. No, I didn’t.
Yes, you did. You said, “What’s going on, EJ?”
Oh. Who’s EJ?
Your pupils aren’t dilated. [tense music]
Are they supposed to be? Ugh. Well, I guess your magic potion didn’t work after all, Elvis. Oh, yes, that’s right. I remember your name. In fact, I remember all kinds of things.
Yeah, I remember. It wasn’t exactly happy with you after what you said about Doug yesterday. Honestly, I think I was a little ticked off.
Yeah, I kind of got that impression. Look, you-
you had every right to be ticked off. I knew that I was picking a fight when I called the guy a thief.
Well, why did you?
Look, it-
it does bother me that he stole from Julie, but I don’t think that was the reason. I think it was more than that. I was jealous.
Tate–
I know, I know, I know. It sounds dumb and immature, and it is. I just-
Holly, with everything that’s happened the past few months, I– I feel like you’ve been slipping away from me, and– and I was afraid I was going to lose you to him. [tender music]
You know, I never really made any plans for our wedding, except for agreeing to do it on my birthday.
Well, I actually made a lot of plans. Rather, Javi did. And then I made it all the way to the altar. [soft dramatic music]
With Feniger. Ugh, I hate that that loser ruined that day for you, calling you a crooked cop in front of your friends and family. Son of a bitch.
Well, the fact that you weren’t there, the day was already ruined.
I’m still so sorry.
Yeah.
Did you throw the ring at him?
Well, I definitely tossed it at him, and then when I came to my senses, I told Javi to get the ring back from him, but I think that creep still has it. He has your family’s heirloom. I am so sorry, Rafe.
No, no, Jada, you have nothing to be sorry about, OK? Nothing at all. Look, with any luck, we’ll find Feniger and the ring. And, uh, if we don’t, oh, well, I’ll get you a new one, OK? The important thing is that I’m going to make you Mrs. Rafe Hernandez. [tender music]
Miss Trask, where did you get that necklace?
[chuckles] Excuse me?
The diamonds around your neck. Where did you get them?
Well, it looks like you have an admirer. Uh, honestly, I think it’s a little flashy, but to each their own. I’ll be in touch. [tense music]
You haven’t answered my question.
I-
I’m sorry. What’s going on? And why are you so interested in my necklace?
Because it is my grandmother’s necklace, Alice Horton’s, stolen from the Horton house the day of my husband’s memorial.
I think you must be mistaken.
I’m not! I’m not. You’re wearing stolen property. It belongs to the Horton family, which is me, so now you must give it back.
What? I’m– I’m not going to just give you my necklace.
You’re incredible. The former district attorney of Salem is a thief?
Oh.
JJ, JJ, arrest this woman.
I don’t think you want to do that.
Tate, I told you, there’s nothing going on between Doug and I. We’re just friends. That’s it.
OK, I-
I know. I know, but– but ever since we found out that Sophia was pregnant, it just feels like you’re always turning to him.
I get that, but it’s just because I need to vent sometimes.
OK, but why can’t you do that with me?
No, I-
I know I can. I just feel like we barely get to see each other anymore. And then every time we do, it’s always getting interrupted.
That’s–
Look, I know you have to be there for Sophia, but there’s always some type of crisis with the baby going on.
You’re right, that-
that’s totally fair, and I’m so sorry that this situation has gotten in the way of us spending time together.
It’s OK. It’s not your fault. I just– it really sucks for everyone.
You know, it’s not always going to be like this.
Isn’t it? With the adoption falling through, I–
No. It might not, actually. Chanel’s mom met up with Mrs. Choi, and it kind of seems like she might have smoothed things over. I don’t want to jinx it, but the adoption might be back on.
Seriously?
Yeah. Yeah.
That’s be amazing
Yeah, I know. I mean, look, it’s not a done deal. There is one major sticking point for Mrs. Choi. Your ex-stepdad, EJ DiMera.
I don’t understand. I gave you a full dose of CRS-17. You should be a blithering idiot.
Do I need to spell it out to you? While Kristen may feel a nagging sense of loyalty towards you, I’m not similarly afflicted. I’ve been keeping an eye on you since I came to this haunted house. I saw you take the syringe out of the safe the other day. You really should be careful what you say to your father. He’s not very good at keeping secrets.
You’ve been spying on me?
Once I understood that your plan was to erase my memories, I simply went to the safe and opened it up when you were otherwise occupied. You might want to change the combination. Stefano’s birthday? I mean, really?
What did you do with the real syringe?
Well, let’s just say that that poor tree no longer has any memories of being a seedling. The only harm that syringe did was raise my blood sugar. So now you’re all out of CRS-17, looks like I’ll be testifying against you after all.
Well, well, Mother Blake, it appears I underestimated you.
But no matter. I’ll simply move on to plan B. After all, I am my father’s son. Now, how did you put it earlier? The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
I wouldn’t worry about EJ. He knows how to put on the charm when he needs to.
Like when he’s lying about being your brother’s father?
Oh, OK, or how about when he’s asking for forgiveness once the truth came out? He seemed sincere about that. Look, I know he’s not everyone’s favorite person, and I’m not saying he’s mine, either. But before he was briefly my stepdad, him and my mom, they– you know, they were on and off for a long time, so I think I started to understand why he gets so many second and third and fourth chances from people.
Is it the puppy dog eyes? Like–
Mm, something like that.
OK, well, let’s just hope that Mrs. Choi isn’t immune.
Well, she just has to think he’s respectful enough. Because it is Johnny and Chanel raising the kid, right?
True.
Yeah.
Hey, do you remember when you had that huge crush on Johnny?
Stop. That was, like, a million years ago.
Mm-hmm.
I can’t believe you put up with me back then.
What can I say? I was head over heels for you.
Well, I’m glad I finally came to my senses. And I’m really glad we had this talk. Honestly, I didn’t just come to talk to your mom. I wanted to make sure we were OK after our fight.
Yeah, I know.
OK. [romantic music] Well, I should leave you with these lemon bars. I need to get home for dinner. I told my grandma I’d be back.
Hey. Well, do you think your grandma would be OK if you changed plans? Like you said, we don’t ever get to spend time together, and spring break, you know? Got a little free time.
What were you thinking?
You know, just hang out, watch a movie, order pizza.
That sounds perfect. Let me just text my grandma.
Why shouldn’t he arrest you? You’re wearing stolen property. He’s a police detective.
Because, Julie, you can’t go around just arresting people for wearing a necklace that looks like your grandmother’s.
It is my grandmother’s.
Can we be reasonable for a second here? Why would I be wearing a necklace around town if I stole it from someone who lives in Salem, hm?
Melinda, can you tell us who sold it to you? When did you buy it?
Really? Are you going to really interrogate me in the middle of the Bistro?
I’m just trying to figure this out.
OK, if you must know, I bought it from a private, trusted jeweler. It was not stolen, and I most certainly did not break into your house. Are we done?
Julie, did you ever end up reporting the necklace stolen?
No.
[sighs]
At the time, I was afraid that someone in the family might have taken it, but I know better now. So, no, I did not file a police report.
Well, then, with all due respect, I’d ask that all three of you step away from my table so I can enjoy my martini.
If you want, we can go down to the police station right now and file a report.
Yes, I want to do that. I want to do that more than anything. But first… [camera shutter clicks]
I’m sorry. I blinked. [tense music]
Two creams, one sugar.
Aw, you’re the best. OK, so you know how a watched pot never boils?
Yeah.
Well, as soon as you left the room, Kristen DiMera called.
What? I missed it? All right, tell me it’s good news.
Melinda read over the immunity agreement and gave her go-ahead.
[exhales]
Yeah, Kristen’s on her way to the DiMera estate to have her mother sign it now.
[sighs] Oh, hey there, EJ.
Kristen. [clears throat]
What is this doing here?
Uh, I don’t know.
Well, it’s my mother’s, and she was wearing it earlier today.
So she took it off. Mystery solved.
Damn it. I told her to stay in her room. I mean, did you-
did you see her when she was down here?
I did, yes.
OK, then where did she go?
I don’t know. All I know is that she’s gone.
Gone? What do you mean gone?
I mean that she left the house. She didn’t say where she was headed. She probably just needed a change of scenery. I’m sure she’ll be in touch at some point. It’s fine.
Damn you, EJ.
Damn you.
So the last time you saw the necklace was on December 2nd?
That’s right. Not until I saw it on Melinda Trask’s neck tonight.
And do you remember exactly where you were when you saw it back in December?
Of course. The Horton living room. The whole family was there. Ciara had just opened the time capsule, and inside were all these wonderful family mementos and then my grandmother’s necklace, and we looked and we oohed and aahed and– and then it was time to go to St. Luke’s Garden. I put it back in the time capsule. When we came home, it was gone.
OK, so you, Ciara, Shawn, my mom, Lucas, and your brother, Steven, are the only ones that even knew about it?
That’s right.
Did anyone talk about the necklace after you left the house? Anywhere someone would have heard you?
No. No, we didn’t talk about it at all. We were all thinking about Doug. [soft dramatic music] How on Earth did Melinda Trask get her hands on it?
You’re not going to follow the parade down to the station?
I feel like I probably shouldn’t.
Why? Did you steal the necklace or something? Look, considering you let me sit here and endure Julie’s wrath and you didn’t say a single thing, the least you can do is buy me another drink.
I, um, don’t exactly have any money.
Right. Can’t believe I forgot about that. Listen, kid, let’s just hope that Julie’s police report gets thrown in a dusty drawer and forgotten about like other reported thefts. Honestly, it doesn’t look like she has any proof, so you might be in the clear. But if the police come after me, then I’m not going to have any choice but to tell them who really stole the necklace.
[screams]
[chuckles]
[laughs] Are you sure this movie’s not too scary for you?
It’s fine. OK, it’s a little bit scary.
Yeah?
But it’s pretty great, huh?
Yeah, it is. I-
I know you really wanted to see this movie in theaters. Sorry we didn’t get a chance to go.
No, it’s OK. It was worth the wait.
It’s true. Seeing it this way in private really does make it worth the wait.
I hope you’re not too hungry. I know you said you wanted to grab dinner earlier.
No, it’s fine. I’d rather watch you hammer that nail into EJ’s coffin.
Well, with any luck, Kristen is having her mother sign that immunity deal as we speak.
Yeah. Yeah, here’s to finally wiping that smug grin off of EJ’s face. [tense music]
You are lying through your teeth. Now where is she? Where the hell is she?
Whoa. I understand that you’re concerned. I would be too. A woman with your mother’s mental problems wandering around God knows where, all on her own. One can only hope she’s safe.
Oh, you son of a bitch! Tell me! Just tell me where she is!
I suggest you calm down. After all, it isn’t helpful to get hysterical, is it? Especially in a crisis situation where there’s really no solution at all.
Like hell there’s nothing I can do about it.
