THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

I hope that you do not waste any more tears on my cousin… [dramatic music] Especially because–

Because what?

There’s something that you should know about Rafe.

He cheated on you.

What?

I am so sorry.

No. Uh-uh. No. Rafe has done some seriously messed-up things lately. But he would never be unfaithful to me.

I know it’s hard to believe. I didn’t want to believe it either. But I am telling you the truth. Rafe, he… had sex with someone else.

So let’s go over the ground rules before you eat your breakfast. Now, no biting, no spitting, and definitely no yelling. I have very sensitive ears, and we’re in a remote area, so no one would hear you anyway.

But I heard a woman’s voice earlier.

Oh, yeah, her. Well…[chuckles] She definitely won’t be coming to rescue you.

Why not?

Well, let’s just say that you’re not the only prisoner in this house.

You’re holding someone else here?

We’re just full of questions this morning, aren’t we?

Yeah, you’re damn right I am. Who else is here?

Oh, Ava.

Mm. Oh, God.

[groans] Oh.

Got you, got you, got you, got you, all right?

Brady. Oh, God, Steve. Thank God. Thank God.

It’s OK. Hey, hey. It’s over. It’s over. It’s over.

You have no idea how happy I am to see you. Oh. How’d you guys find me?

Steve was able to enhance the audio on the voicemail that you sent me. And up until now, I couldn’t even understand the end of it.

But once my guy cleaned it up, we knew that Rachel had called you and you were on your way to this address.

Yeah, well, your daughter lured me here. It was part of her grand plan to keep us apart. And when she failed, she stepped up her game.

She stepped–what do you– what do you mean? Easy, easy.

[groans] I mean… Rachel knew. She knew that you never heard my message and that it was all garbled so you didn’t hear me say that I was here. She took my phone, she sent you a text message, and she made you think that I dumped you and went to China.

Wait, wait, wait a minute. Are you saying that Rachel has been holding you captive?

No, that’s– that’s ridiculous. She’s just a little girl. She couldn’t have done this alone.

No. No, she could not have done this alone. But she sure as hell did do this with the help of her grandmother.

Her–Marlena? What?

No, Brady. No, her other grandmother. Kristen’s mother.

Who else are you holding here?

Oh, that’s none of your concern.

You’re in way over your damn head, lady. Yeah, when they find you here, which they will, you are gonna be facing some serious prison time.

Mm.

Be smart. Be smart and let me go.

I’m afraid I can’t do that.

Why not?

Because I made a deal with EJ DiMera, and it’s one I intend to keep. – So this plan you’ve been formulating?

Huh, you know, I assumed this was something I was expecting from DiMera, but now I think it might be exactly what we’ve been waiting for. Hmm.

Ooh! [laughs] Indeed, here it is.

And what is that?

Oh, little brother, this is the answer to our prayers.

Mm. [soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[dramatic music]

Ava, I don’t understand. See, Kristen’s mother is dead.

[scoffs] Oh, no, she’s not. She is here. She’s creeping around this house all dressed in white.

You’ve seen her?

Oh, I see her three times a day when she brings me my gruel.

Steve, I know what you are thinking, but this is not a hallucination.

Then it’s got to be some kind of trick, OK, because whoever you’re seeing is not Rachel Blake, because she passed decades ago.

Ava, listen, whatever is going on–

Look, I am telling you what’s going on, Steve! I told you Kristen’s Mommie Dearest is alive and well, and she has been holding me hostage in this haunted house!

All right, all right. Take it easy. Just tell us, where is this woman now?

EJ DiMera is the scum of the Earth. There’s no way you can trust him.

Well, unfortunately, I have no choice.

Yes, you do. Yes, you can let me go, and I will help you. I will help you get out of whatever mess it is that you are mixed up in. Look, I don’t know what kind of deal you made with EJ, but I guarantee you he is not gonna hold up his end. He’s just like his father.

Stefano? In what sense?

Every sense. He’s like the second coming of that monster. He’s just as heartless, just as ruthless. He–he’s only out for himself. I’m telling you, Stefano not only raised EJ, but he molded him into his own twisted image.

The answer to our prayers.

Mm-hmm. Amen and hallelujah.

Right, well, I’m going to need you to be a bit more specific.

Well, after we talked last night, I got in touch with Rolf.

I already don’t like the sound of this.

I’d be a little bit more grateful if I were you, EJ. We currently have two very large problems taking up space in my mother’s house. And Rolf maybe, once again, has saved the day.

All right, I’ll bite. What has our favorite mad scientist cooked up for you this time?

You see, this lovely concoction has been around for a while now. It is called CRS-17, otherwise known as our miracle drug.

[siren wailing]

Oh! Hey. Sorry, I didn’t know you were in here. [scoffs] OK.

Something that I can help you with, District Attorney Black?

Hmm, I didn’t realize we were using official titles, Detective Brady.

Well, we are at work.

Well, whatever you’re doing must be really important, because you couldn’t even be bothered to look up and say hello.

As a matter of fact, it is important. Trying to prove your new boyfriend framed Jada.

What? You’re telling me that Rafe had sex with someone else the night before we were supposed to get married?

It happened after the bachelor party.

With who?

Don’t clam up now, Javi, not after you just told me that my fiancé slept with someone else. Who was it? Please tell me! Who did Rafe have sex with?

The stripper.

[dramatic music]

Rafe had sex with the stripper?

I found them together, him and Savannah. That was her name.

OK, what do you mean you found them together?

The morning of the wedding, I went over to the inn to help Rafe get ready, and she was there in his room.

OK, so this Savannah person was in his room. That doesn’t mean they slept together. Maybe she was trying to get paid or something.

No. I paid her the night before at the pub.

OK, but that doesn’t prove anything.

Jada, she came out of the bathroom in a towel. And Rafe gave me this whole song and dance, saying that she only stayed over because she was too drunk to drive home. And he claimed that nothing happened between them.

There was a lot of drinking that night. Maybe he was telling the truth.

He wasn’t. I’m sure of it.

How, hmm? How are you so sure?

Because I told Rafe that I didn’t believe a word that he said and he needed to fess up and admit that he had sex with her. And eventually, he did.

And I wish that I could tell you that he broke down bawling the instant that he came clean, but he didn’t think that it was a big deal. I–I don’t even have words to explain it. Look, all I can say again is that I am so, so sorry. Come here.

Hold it. You found out about this the morning of our wedding?

Yeah.

That was weeks ago. Why am I just hearing about this now?

Well, this would normally be the part where I would tell you that EJ is not my boyfriend. But considering the very obvious foul mood you’re in, I think I’ll save us both the aggravation.

That’s fine by me.

[scoffing] OK. Do you have any evidence to back up your allegations?

Why? So you can go and warn EJ?

Oh, my God. Screw you, Shawn! I would never do that. And yeah, I’m gonna call you by your first name, so deal with it.

OK! Jeez. Calm down.

[scoffing] OK.

Look, and to answer your question, no. No, I do not have any proof that EJ set Jada up. But it’s only a matter of time before I do.

Yeah, well, you do know that the whole “innocent until proven guilty” thing applies to everyone, including EJ.

I’m wondering if you realize how biased you are.

What? Excuse me?

Oh, come on, Belle. We both know that you cannot be objective about a man that you are having sex with.

Oh, I’m familiar with CRS-17. Megan shot us up with it a couple of years ago so we wouldn’t remember why she held us captive in the basement for weeks.

Mm-hmm, and ruin her plans for world domination.

But we were able to remember after Marlena hypnotized us.

Yes, that is right. This drug causes memory loss. I mean, CRS stands for Can’t Remember–

I know what it stands for.

Well, then you also know from firsthand experience, as you just said, that if a person or two people were to be injected with it, then they would forget why they were kidnapped.

But if we use it on Ava and Rafe…

You and I would be in the clear.

EJ’s only loyalty is to himself. And as soon as he gets what he wants, he’s gonna turn on you like the rat that he is. His word means nothing. He will destroy you and your loved ones without a second thought. There’s still a chance. There is. If you let me go, I will make sure that EJ goes down for this. And I will swear that you were forced to do this against your will. All right? What do you say?

No, don’t–don’t look at me like that, Steve. I am not crazy. Rachel Blake was just here.

All I’m asking is, where is she now?

I don’t know. OK, maybe–maybe the old bat saw you two coming and she flew off to her old belfry.

Steve… I swear to you on the life of our son that Kristen’s mother has been holding me captive.

All right. I’ll go search the house.

Be careful.

You don’t believe me either, do you?

You just swore on your son’s life. I believe you.

Good.

Are you–are you hurt? Are you hurt?

I’ll be OK. I’ll be OK.

Kris–Kristen’s mother did this? That is just–it’s–it’s–

Insane. It’s insane.

Yeah.

Yeah. I know this. And it’s taken me learning the hard way that the Blake women– you know, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

[chuckles] I’m– I’m mortified at my daughter’s role in all this. Obviously, her grandmother has been a very bad influence on her.

Yeah. Her grandmother and her mother.

[sighs]

What do you– what do you mean?

Oh, Kristen was in on this.

Are you telling me that Kristen knew that her mother was keeping you hostage here?

Look, not initially, no. But look, when the Woman in White walked in, I thought that Kristen was gonna pass out from shock.

Yeah, I’m sure about that. But how did Kristen know that you were here?

Look, she found my phone and some scrapbook about this place in Rachel’s backpack. She put two and two together.

Oh, my God. Oh, my God.

Brady, what? What is it?

[sighs] The other day, Kristen and I were supposed to take Rachel to therapy together. Kristen went into the other room to get Rachel’s backpack, and then all of a sudden, she got a real bad headache and wanted me to take Rachel alone. She said she was gonna go upstairs and lie down. I bet she came here.

Yeah. Obviously, she didn’t tell you that she found me.

No, she–damn it! I just–I just talked to her about this a couple hours ago. Kristen looked at me dead in the eye, and she pretended to know nothing, even though I told her I was worried about you. I didn’t know where you were. I couldn’t reach you. I can’t believe Kristen actually saw you and didn’t help you get the hell out of here.

OK, well, she wanted to initially, but her mother talked her out of it.

She talked her– how’d she do that?

Because she told her that if she set me free that I was gonna go straight to the cops and then Rachel was gonna get all messed up in this. Look, she did this to protect her kid, but she walked right out that damn door. [dramatic music]

You’re telling me that three generations of Blake women were responsible for you being kidnapped?

Yeah. And one DiMera man.

No, no, no. You mean–

Oh, yeah. EJ. He knew I was here, and he didn’t lift a finger to help me.

Doesn’t this only erase short-term memory?

Yeah, but that’s all we need. It doesn’t matter if Rafe and Ava remember their tumultuous teenage years. We just want to erase anything about them being held captive by you and my mother.

But as I just said, you and I couldn’t remember why we were kidnapped, but we did remember who did it.

Yeah, but this– this is a stronger dose. Rolf assured me he perfected it.

Oh, well, then we have nothing to worry about now.

OK, you know what? You want to be a naysayer? You–you don’t like my idea? Then you propose a better one, EJ.

How dare you accuse me of not being objective about EJ?

I’m just calling it like I see it.

Oh, well, your vision is clouded by your jealousy. And what happened to my personal life being none of your business?

OK, you are making it my business. My boss was fired because she was falsely accused of being corrupt.

And?

And now the DA is turning a blind eye to what couldn’t be a more obvious frame job because she’s literally still in bed with the guy behind it.

So any better ideas?

[sighs]

[chuckles] Yeah, I didn’t think so. Look, EJ, honestly, I don’t love the idea of relying on Rolf either, but this– this is our best shot at coming out unscathed, hmm? I mean, the only other alternative is to get rid of the captives permanently.

No. No. I don’t want to go down that route.

OK, well, then let’s hustle over to Aremid. We jab the PI and the Mob princess before Steve and Brady track them down, hmm?

So will you help me or not?

I’m sorry. The answer is no. I have to think about my daughter and granddaughter.

You keep bringing them up, saying that you’re doing this for your family. How are they involved in this?

No more questions.

So, what, is EJ doing something to them? Is he threatening them? Is that why you’re helping him? Please! Please, just tell me what the hell is going on so I can get out of here and back to the people I love.

Why didn’t you tell me that Rafe slept with that skank as soon as you found out?

I wanted to, but he begged me not to.

Seriously?

I hated it. I hated every minute keeping this from you.

But yet you did it anyway.

But Rafe was, like, bullying me into these arguments, saying that it wasn’t my secret to tell and that what you didn’t know wouldn’t hurt you.

[sighs]

I–I know. I know. But then he pulled the family card and said that family is supposed to look out for one another. And next thing I know, I’m promising him that I’m gonna keep my mouth shut.

God knows that I’ve covered for my sister more than once, so I understand why you didn’t tell anyone.

I did tell Leo.

What? Wait, Leo Stark knows about this?

I ran into him when I was leaving the inn, and I was just so angry and so upset that it just sort of came out.

Great. So now Leo has a nice juicy column for his gossip piece.

No, no, no, no, no. Leo would never do that. In the moment, he was just being a good friend. Jada… I was so torn that when the ceremony started, I still didn’t know what to do.

Wait, is this why Leo stood up when Paulina asked if anyone had any objections?

He knew that the secret was eating away at me, and so he was gonna say something.

That’s kind of considerate of him. But then you stood up and you said that you had something to say.

Because I realized that I had to tell you. But then Rafe stopped the wedding before I could.

Yeah, then he ruined my life with all those trumped-up allegations. God. You know, every time I feel like your cousin can’t do anything more to hurt me or humiliate me any more, he finds a way to prove me wrong.

I know how EJ operates. Oh, he has you thinking that you have to go along with him. But it’s not true, OK? I can get you out of this.

You know something? You talk too much.

What? No, no, no, no, no. No, please, don’t. Don’t–please, don’t do it. Don’t, please! Please. [groans]

Well, I’ll be damned. Ava wasn’t seeing things. You must be the infamous Rachel Blake.

What do you mean still in bed with him?

Come on, Belle, you can drop the act, all right? I know.

You know what?

I know that you lied to me when you said that your hookup with EJ was just a one-time thing.

Well, actually, I didn’t lie, because when I told you EJ and I were together once, it was the truth. And you know what? Why does who I sleep with have anything to do with you? We’re divorced, remember? And please, please, please, please save me all of this BS about being biased. You know me. You know I would never compromise an investigation because of my personal life.

I thought that I knew you. Apparently not.

So how did you know that EJ and I are still seeing each other?

Jada told me. [dramatic music]

I hope that you know that I didn’t tell you this to add to your pain. When you asked me what it would take to get over Rafe, I thought knowing this might help.

Knowing that he’s a bigger pig than I thought.

The way Rafael treated you was shameful.

You know, I had a dream this morning. I had a dream that Rafe, he was asking for me back. He wanted me back. He said that he loved me and he wanted to marry me. He even got down on one knee with your mother’s ring. But… even after all of the outrageous behavior that Rafe did, I was still holding out hope that we would get through this.

I don’t know, but after speaking to you, it’s clear that we’re not gonna get through it. It’s not gonna happen. Rafe and I, we’re over.

We’re done. [phone beeps]

It’s just Gabi. She needs me at the office.

You should go. You should go.

No, no, no, no, no. If you want to keep talking, I can just text her back and tell her that I’m running late.

No, really, really. I’m fine. I’m fine.

[grunting] [tense music]

You’re hiding out in the attic?

This is my house, and I’ll do in it what I wish. Now, who are you, and what are you doing here?

The name’s Steve Johnson.

Well, Mr. Johnson, why are you trespassing?

The woman you had hogtied downstairs is the mother of one of my sons.

I see.

So you gonna come willingly, or do we have to do this the hard way?

So EJ was here. How the hell does he figure in all this?

I don’t know. But he seemed genuinely surprised to find me gagged and bound. At first, I thought that he was gonna help me. [sighs] And then he didn’t. I don’t know, he just– he left.

What a bastard. I wonder if this was his idea of revenge for what happened to Susan.

Look, EJ hates my guts. There’s no question about this. But I don’t think this has to do with his mother. I think it has to do with Kristen’s.

Why would you say that?

Because Rachel Blake asked to speak to him outside in private. And so whatever she said must have turned him onto her side, because he never came back.

Well, what could she possibly have said to him?

I don’t know. You know what? You’re gonna have to ask the kidnapping granny, if Steve ever finds her. [footsteps tapping] Oh.

Found her.

Why would Jada bring up my sex life with you?

She didn’t bring it up. I did. I told her I didn’t believe you when you said EJ was just a one-time thing, and she confirmed my suspicions.

And how the hell did she do that?

She ran into you at the DiMera house. She figured your whole story about being there to visit Johnny was a load of crap. And you know what? She was right.

Well, gee, Detective, I would think you would have better things to investigate than whose bed I’m in.

How could you do it, Belle? Jada went to bat for you with the mayor. She’s the reason why you were named DA. And this is how you repay her, by–by sleeping with the guy that manufactured the evidence that ruined her life?

You don’t know that EJ did that.

Do you even hear yourself right now? The man is a vile, vindictive snake, and he’s coming after you next.

Oh, my God! I am so sick of your holier-than-thou commentary on my taste and my judgment and my professionalism when it’s you who’s throwing around unfounded accusations, convicting a man without even a shred of evidence.

Deep down, you know that I’m right. EJ is behind this.

Oh, please. You hate EJ, so you want to blame him for everything that goes wrong in this town.

We both know that if anything bad happens in Salem, there’s an extraordinarily high chance that EJ is involved. It’s either him or his crazy sister. [dramatic music]

Ava?

She’s gone.

Well, did she escape?

How the hell would I know? Where’s your mother?

Mother! Mother, are you here? She’s gone too.

Oh, my God. I’m gonna have to go check on Rafe.

Oh, what is going on here? Where did everybody go?

How you doing? Are you cold? Do you want–I can get you a blanket. Want my jacket?

OK, Brady, I keep telling you I am fine. Look, we don’t even need to be here. I told you, Kristen’s mother didn’t hurt me.

I would just feel better if the doctor checked you out, OK? And hey, until then, call your son, ’cause I’m sure he’d love to hear from you personally that you’re OK, thanks to his dad.

And you.

So not only am I biased and incompetent, but I’m also a bad friend?

Hmm, I would throw crappy sister in there too.

Oh, well, since we’re on the subject of sisters, shall we discuss Talia Hunter?

Yeah, bring it. Fine.

OK. Yeah, I would love to.

Excuse me. Excuse me. You think you two can stop arguing long enough to book this woman for kidnapping?

Who is she?

Well, this is the Woman in White, aka Rachel Blake, aka Kristen DiMera’s mother.

Ah. Oh, thank God. Ugh, quite a number of stairs to get up here. [sighs] OK. All right.

Mm!

Oh, here, let me– let me help you with that. There we go.

What’s that, another sedative?

Oh, no, old chap. It is something quite a bit stronger.

What are you gonna do? You gonna kill me? Is that your plan?

[chuckles] No. Heavens, no. I’m simply going to wipe out your memories.

No.

Why the resistance, Rafael? Surely this hasn’t been a pleasant experience for you. Just look on the bright side. I give you one little– well, not-so-little shot, and you’ll forget this whole sordid affair.

You’re gonna use that to wipe out my memory?

It really is what’s best for everyone. [tense music]

Don’t do it, EJ.

Ah, bup-bup-bup-bup-bup. You won’t feel a thing. Ready? On the count of three. One, two, three!

Drop it!

Like hell! [grunts]

Jada?

[sniffles]

Hey, you all right?

No. No, I’m not. [sobs] [dramatic music]

So… Shawn took off pretty quick after he booked Rachael Blake, huh?

Sure did.

You want to talk about it?

You know, we’re just getting the hang of being divorced. So is that really Kristen’s mom?

Apparently she is.

Huh. So for all these years, she’s been alive, and now she’s been holding Ava in Aremid?

Pretty wild, huh? I’m just glad Brady and I got there before it was too late.

I am sorry that you were so worried. But I promise you, Tripp, I am totally fine. Yes, I will still ask the doctor those questions. Yes–yes, yes, and I will– I will–I will call you again later today. Yeah. Yeah. OK, all right, honey. Just please give Wendy a hug from me, and– OK. I know. I love you too. All right. Ciao. [sighs] Thank you, Brady. For everything.

Well, just grateful we found you.

Yeah, I’m grateful you found me, too, and you showed up when you did, because God knows what that lunatic would have done, especially with Kristen and EJ’s help.

[sighs] [tense music] [both grunting]

EJ! No!
