THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!
[dramatic music]
Mother. Hi.
Hello, sweetheart.
No big Valentine’s Day plans?
Well, not with Roman still in Chicago, visiting with Rex.
So you’ve come to visit one of your other sons.
Oh, well, it looks like the other son is getting ready for a hasty getaway.
Don’t worry. I’m not leaving Salem after everything I’ve done to secure my place at Titan. But I am moving out of the inn.
Oh, well, well you should. I mean, if you’re gonna be staying in Salem, you need a permanent place to live. Did you look at those new lofts down by the harbor?
No, actually, I didn’t, because I’m moving into my father’s house.
My God, I am so happy to be out of scrubs. I had three emergency appendectomies today, which means that I was on my feet for approximately– [tender music]
What’s all this?
Happy Valentine’s Day, darling.
Javi’s spending the night at Leo’s, and Jada just moved out.
And Rafe?
I don’t know if or when he’ll be back.
So does that mean–
We have the place to ourselves. So if you want to spend the night…
Mm, I–I thought you would never ask.
Yeah.
No. No, no, no. I understand just fine. And listen, I think it’s very sweet that you want to stand up for me, but you don’t have to, not in this instance, anyway.
You think I’m sweet, do you?
[laughs] I suppose that’s what I said.
Well, you’re certainly right about one thing.
Hmm?
I do want to stand up for you but not because I don’t think you can handle yourself but because I care about you, Belle.
See? Sweet.
Also, I don’t like the idea of someone else giving you kisses on Valentine’s Day.
Oh, no?
Mm.
Oh, well, who do you think it should be?
Oh, well, let me show you.
Mm.
Mm. So would you care to join me for a drink?
Lead the way.
Oh, no, no, no. After you, please.
[chuckles] [country music]
Who does Rafe think he is, asking me to come up to his room after he ruined my career and he betrayed me in the worst possible way? You are the only Valentine I need tonight, you and a bunch of your little friends.
Jada, sure you want to do that? [dramatic music]
[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”
[soft music]
There we go.
So…[clears throat] What are we doing?
I believe you call this having a nightcap. [glasses clink]
[chuckles] Yeah, I get that part. I mean what are we doing in the broader sense?
Can we just live in the moment and not overthink It? I mean, that’s been our mantra, right?
Yeah, but, you know, you just kissed me. And as you pointed out earlier, it is Valentine’s Day.
Your point being?
Well, at the risk of overthinking it…
[chuckles]
Feels like the kind of thing that actual couples do.
I suppose that’s true, but it’s not as though we made plans for the holiday. You just happened to stop by here.
Right.
Unless… [gasps] You wanted to stop by here…
[clears throat]
Because you wanted to be with me for Valentine’s Day.
[chuckles] And if that was the reason?
Ooh. A successful, accomplished, fascinating woman wanting to be with me on Valentine’s Day? Well, I would feel… very, very lucky indeed.
Hmm. [sighs] So you’re moving into the Kiriakis estate.
Is that surprising? I’ve lived there before.
Yes, you have, but not when your brother Xander was head of the household, your brother who historically can’t stand you.
And the feeling has been mutual.
[sighs] So my question is, how did you talk him into this?
It was Xander’s idea.
[scoffs] Really? Xander invited you to live there?
Yeah. I was over at the house the other night, talking business. And strangely enough, we were getting along.
Oh. Oh, the wonder of all wonders.
We were getting along so well, in fact, that he suggested I move in. And since I do, as you said, need a more permanent place to stay…
Yes. Yes, I did say that. But come on, Philip. Not there. Anywhere but there. [dramatic music]
This is all for me?
For us.
[laughs]
Valentine’s dinner for two, just like we talked about.
I thought we were going to the Bistro.
I know, but when you texted me that you were heading into your third surgery of the day, I thought maybe a nice relaxing dinner at home would be just what the doctor ordered, so…
And the doctor is so very grateful. And I’m also grateful that you got our little girl down for the night. Yeah, I checked the nursery before I got changed.
Well, Victoria is not only down for the night, but I gave her a bath…
Mm-hmm.
And read her two bedtime stories.
You got her to go to sleep after only two stories?
I made her a deal: four stories tomorrow as long as she let me get ready for my hot date with her mum tonight.
Oh. She may look like a sleeping angel, but that girl drives a hard bargain.
Just like her mum.
[laughs]
Dinner will be ready soon.
[gasps] You cooked?
Well, I did consider making my world-famous haggis, but it’s not the most romantic food. So yeah, I let Henderson and Cook handle the menu.
Mm, that’s a good call. Well, since you seem to have thought of everything, I guess all that’s left is for me to show you my gratitude. [chuckles] [tender music]
I’m pretty comfortable with my choice. Anything to help me forget about my latest run-in with Rafe.
Oh, no. What–what happened now?
I went to tell him that I was moving out of his house and staying with Stephanie.
And what did he say? He try to talk you out of it?
He tried to talk me into his bedroom.
Wait, you mean–
Yes, I mean. [scoffs] Can you believe that?
I mean, a week ago, I– I would have said no way, but now I’ll believe anything you say about the guy.
What an ass, right?
Yeah, I mean, he’s– he’s making some very strange choices. I’ll give you that.
What is going on with him? I mean, how did he become this whole different person? I just–I don’t understand what changed.
Sounds to me like he changed.
[sighs] Maybe you were right. Maybe that coma did somehow screw with his personality.
It’s possible.
Well, whatever the hell it is, I’m tired of trying to figure it out.
Hey, listen. Listen to me. All right, I know–I know that you’re hurt, all right? You’re frustrated. And hey, I would be too. But coming from someone who spent a lot of time trying to drink their problems away, I’m telling you, it’s a very bad idea. [dramatic music]
OK. Any better ideas on how to get out my aggression to stop me from smashing Rafe’s face in? [soft music]
Best two out of three?
[light music]
So are you saying you wanted me to come over and spend Valentine’s Day with you or, rather, Valentine’s evening?
Let’s just say my heart did skip a beat when I saw you at the front door.
I didn’t know you were such a romantic.
Well, I admit I’m not usually the sentimental type…
[scoffs]
Nor do I go all in for holidays created by the greeting card industry. But I have been enjoying our time together.
So have I. But, of course, that does come with some issues.
Issues?
Well, I’m sure it’s occurred to you that I’m the DA and you’re someone who’s, shall we say, a little fast and easy with the law.
You do know I was DA until very recently.
Mm-hmm. How’d that go for you?
Point taken.
[chuckles] All I’m saying is that everything is good right now, but I just can’t help but wonder if…
If you’re setting yourself up for a fall.
Am I?
[country music]
Oh, damn.
You do know that the point is to get the dart on the board, right?
[laughs] OK, you’ve seen me at the firing range. Do I ever miss a target?
[laughs] No, not very often.
98% accuracy, thank you very much.
Well, since my uncle discourages against the use of firearms in the pub, do you want me to give you a few pointers?
Sure, mansplain away.
No, it’s–no, it’s nothing like that, OK? It’s just a few little simple, helpful tips. That’s all.
Fine. Let’s hear it.
OK, so you’re gonna want to hold the barrel of the dart with three fingers, like this, right? You don’t want to curl your fingers too much, and you don’t want to squeeze the dart too hard.
Mm, heaven forbid. [laughs]
All right, so you’re gonna want to take your shoulder, your elbow, and your hand, and you want to go at a 90-degree angle, right?
Uh-huh.
Like–here, may I?
Go for it.
OK. Got to go up a little bit higher, just like that. You’re gonna want to hold the dart eye level, right there, all right?
Mm-hmm.
And then you want to follow through…
OK.
Just like–
[gasp]
Oh! Oh, my God! You got–that’s a bull’s-eye. Whoa.
Is it good?
Mmm.
[chuckles] Yeah, it’s perfect. I’m so happy to be home with my husband, away from the hospital, where everyone is in such low spirits, just worried that they’re gonna all lose their jobs.
Is it really that dire?
Mm. No one knows how bad it is. Since the board declared bankruptcy, we’re all just left scrambling to figure out what’s next.
Could the hospital really close? [dramatic music]
The staff seems to think so. So everyone’s, you know, jockeying for position and trying to find new and interesting cases and procedures to make themselves look good for prospective employers.
So that’s why you had three appendectomies today.
Yes, and I fear there’s only more of that to come if we don’t just start playing the game.
What is that look?
I was just wondering, what if Titan bought the hospital?
Come on.
I’m serious. I’ll have my financial guy make the call in the morning.
That’s a very sweet offer, but… I don’t think that the “for sale” sign is quite up yet.
Well, whatever happens, you don’t have to worry. Even if you don’t get another position immediately, your doting and adoring husband will take care of any and all expenses. [glasses clink]
Oh. Are you saying I’ll be a kept woman?
Kept by the CEO of Titan Industries.
Co-CEO, along with your new best friend, Philip, aka our new roommate.
I–I don’t get it. Why are you opposed to me moving into the Kiriakis mansion? Have you changed your mind about me being entitled to my birthright?
No, of course not. It’s just the fact that Xander lives there too. And unless there’s something that I’m missing, you two hate each other’s guts. So why the hell would he be inviting you for a permanent sleepover?
So you think there’s some ulterior motive here?
I don’t know what his motives are. I really don’t. And it’s fine for you guys to get along, but to live in the same house together? Something could slip at any time, Philip.
You mean I could slip.
Yes, you could slip. It’s too damn close for comfort, OK? [tense music] What if the truth about Victor’s letter comes out?
Mm. [sighs] Sorry, I know it looks like a bomb went off in here.
It’s fine.
Mm. I’ve been so busy at work. I wasn’t expecting company.
Gabi, do I look like I care? [light music]
You know what? Just let me pick it up, OK?
Look, no, don’t– hey, look, if it makes you feel better, I can just– I can add my own mess.
OK. And I’ll add more to mine.
Mm.
All right, you ready for this? I’m feeling it now.
All right, let’s see what you got. [country music]
Oh, look at that.
I mean, it’s not exactly a bull’s-eye, but–
It’s pretty dang close.
Yeah, it is pretty– pretty dang close.
[chuckles] Unlike some people, I did not grow up in the Brady Pub. But you made a mistake, buddy. You taught me all your secrets.
Oh. Oh, no, no, no. I did not teach you all my secrets. I only taught you some of them.
Really?
Mm-hmm.
What didn’t you tell me?
Well, you remember how I told you this was a good way to get your aggression out? You know what really helps me is that when I throw this thing, I picture that bull’s-eye– I picture that bull’s-eye just being EJ’s face.
Really?
Yeah.
What, you just throw it right at him?
Oh, yeah, it is– it’s very satisfying, trust me.
Oh, I bet it would be.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Can I ask you something?
OK.
Look, yesterday when I told you that I thought that Belle and EJ were still sleeping together, you said that you didn’t think I was wrong. [dramatic music]
I did?
Yeah. Can you tell me why you said that?
Because EJ doesn’t seem like someone who gives up easily.
You know, you’re a really bad liar.
OK. Because when I went over to his creepy mansion to confront him, Belle was there.
Wait, you– you walked in on them?
No, no, no, no. It–it was nothing like that. Belle was fully dressed. She claimed that she was there to see Johnny, but I had the feeling that she wasn’t being truthful.
Wow. So she is still sleeping with him.
If you’re asking if I’ll ever again do something that you don’t approve of, highly unlikely.
[scoffs]
However…
However?
What I can offer you is certainty. You know exactly what you’re going to get with me, Belle.
[sighs] I don’t think that’s all that comforting.
Well, I’m afraid it’ll have to suffice. Because if you’re wanting me to change, I’m afraid you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. I’m not Shawn.
I’m not comparing. But since you brought him up, I’m thinking that if even a “good person” like my ex-husband could hurt me so badly, Lord knows the odds are not in my favor with you.
Hmm. And yet here you are.
Here I am. But I’m also not naive, so… if you’ve done anything that would make me walk out of here and never look back, now would be a really good time to tell me.
Would you stop obsessing over that letter? No way Xander is going to find out that we forged it.
Oh, no? What if his wife decides to tell him?
Why would Sarah say anything now? Then he’d know she’s been lying to him or at least lying by omission.
Mm-hmm.
So she has just as much to lose as I do.
Hmm, are you sure of that?
Yes, I am. The longer Sarah keeps the truth from him, the more upset Xander will be if he finds out. Not just upset– I doubt he’d even want to stay with someone who lied to him about his birthright. Her whole marriage rests on keeping this secret.
[sighs]
Are you not pleased that I invited Philip to stay here?
Well, I mean, I was surprised. The whole thing felt– I don’t know–impulsive.
Well, it was. But you have to admit it makes sense. I mean, we were firing on all cylinders, talking strategy. I just–I just realized how much more we’d get done if he just lived here.
So you’re just gonna be working all the time?
No, but you know how these things go– conversations over the breakfast table, late-night strategizing.
That sounds like fun.
I thought this would make you happy.
Why would Philip moving in here make me happy?
Because you were the one who told me I should make an effort to get along with my brother. I mean, in a way, this is all happening because of you. [tense music] What’s that look? What is it?
Xander, I need to tell you something.
[dramatic music]
What is it, darling?
Xander, I know that I’m the one who encouraged you to get along with Philip, but… maybe I pushed too hard.
What do you mean?
Well, what I mean is, I– I don’t want you to be disappointed.
Disappointed how?
Well, I mean, you spent most of your life being an outsider, looking in on your family, feeling like they didn’t respect you or embrace you.
And now I’m CEO, co-CEO with my brother.
Yeah, and I just– I feel like you’re putting a lot of stock into that relationship. And while I–I hope that everything goes well, I don’t want you to be hurt if it doesn’t.
I appreciate you looking out for me. I really do, my love. But you have nothing to be concerned about. I know Philip. And I know myself. I’m going into this with my eyes wide open.
[sighs] I appreciate you worrying about me.
Well, it’s a full-time occupation.
Yeah, I get that. But I promise, Mom, everything will be fine.
Oh, thank God. Because nothing’s ever gone wrong after someone uttered those words.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, in this case, nothing will go wrong. Trust me.
I am going to trust you because I know that I’m overprotective. But I just want you to be safe, baby. I love you. I want you to get everything that you deserve.
I love you too. And hey, do you want to go grab something to eat in the square before I head over to the mansion?
OK, that’s very sweet of you to offer to keep your mother company on Valentine’s Day, but actually, I’m fine.
You sure?
Oh, yeah, I have great plans. I’m going to fix myself some milk and cookies, and I’m going to binge episodes of “The Traitors,” so…
Mm. Sounds like a plan.
Mm.
Happy Valentine’s Day.
Happy Valentine’s Day to you. Be careful.
Mm. Now I wish I’d turned off the lights. [chuckles]
Really? I–I–I don’t.
Yeah, but the room looks like such a disaster.
Yeah, I know. I mean, especially this bed. It’s so disheveled. It’s like something crazy happened here.
[chuckles]
What’s wrong?
Nothing. [sighs] It’s just, I was thinking about Rafe, how when I was growing up, he’d always tell me how important it was to wake up every morning and make my bed, clean my room. Uncluttered room, uncluttered mind.
That sounds like the Rafe I know.
Yeah, definitely not like the guy he’s been the last few weeks.
No.
You know, I– I just don’t understand how he could have done this to Jada. I mean, he humiliated her in front of half the town.
Yeah. I wish I had an answer. It’s just so weird that he would investigate her in the first place.
Yeah, it’s all weird.
You said you talked to her, right? How’s she doing?
About like you’d expect. I wanted her to know I’m on her side.
You believe she’s innocent?
Of course I do.
Same, which is why it just– it doesn’t make sense that Rafe supposedly found all this evidence against her.
You know, Jada’s convinced that EJ set her up, which sounds pretty reasonable to me, considering that he’s the one that hired Rafe to dig up dirt.
Well, then maybe it’s time I help Jada prove her innocence.
OK, this is it. This is the one. I can feel it.
OK, remember, aim for EJ’s smug face, all right?
Take that, you arrogant son of a bitch.
Oh!
Oh, yes! Oh, my God. I did it. Did you see that? I did it.
Yeah, I see it. You know what that means? That’s game.
Game? You–
You won.
I won?
Yes.
I beat you, really?
Really.
[laughs] Yes. Take that, you mansplaining– [country music] Wait a minute. You let me win, didn’t you?
What? No. I didn’t–no.
OK, now who’s the bad liar?
OK. I just–I felt that you needed a win. [soft music]
What I needed was a friend.
Thank you.
OK, there is something, isn’t there? Yeah, I just saw a little flash of guilt go across your eyes, didn’t I?
Belle, please understand that I did not set out to do any of this. Just one thing led to anoth– [phone ringing]
It’s Paulina. I’m sorry. I have to get this. [tense music] [clears throat] Hello, Madam Mayor. Oh? Uh-huh. OK. Well, thank you for calling.
[clears throat] Everything all right?
[groans]
You tried to get me fired? What the hell is wrong with you?
For the record, I didn’t ask Paulina to fire you so much as I asked her to give me my job back.
A job that I currently hold.
No offense, Belle, but is it not hypocritical of you to get angry about this, considering you took my job first?
I did not take your job. I was offered your job.
You see the irony here, right?
So–so, what, have you been– you’ve been plotting this behind my back the whole time?
[sighs]
Oh, is this what you were going to confess?
Well–
Well, I suppose that I should be grateful, right, that you were about to admit it?
Because I don’t enjoy lying to you, Belle. [tense music] But now that you know the whole truth… [clears throat] I assume this is goodbye.
You assume wrong. [dramatic music] [country music]
Hope you saved me some of those.
[laughing] Oh, honey, you’re back.
Of course I am.
Oh.
Happy Valentine’s Day, Katie. Happy Valentine’s Day.
Mm.
Oh, sorry. I didn’t know anyone was in here.
Well, now you do, so…
I thought you said you were going to the Bistro.
Yeah, just a wee change of plans. Sarah had a very long day.
Got it. Well, let me get out of your way.
Oh, no, no, no. Help yourself to a drink, and keep my wife company. I’m gonna grab our desserts from the kitchen.
OK. [tense music] Don’t worry. I’ll leave you alone. I need to unpack anyway.
You do that.
You’re OK with me moving in, right?
Well, I guess have to be. Xander wants you here.
So you don’t approve?
I have my reservations.
As did my mother.
Hmm. But I think it’ll be good for everyone in the long run.
It damn well better be.
[grunting]
[chuckles] You know, I could have carried it myself.
What, and risk you injuring your dart-throwing hand? No. Come on, there’s no way.
And you didn’t have to escort me home either.
Yeah, well, my mother basically drilled these manners into me. And you don’t defy Hope Brady.
[chuckles] Well, tell her thank you for me. You know, Stephanie gave me a key. I hope I didn’t leave it at the pub.
I mean, we could just try knocking.
Well, she texted me a little while ago. She’s still at dinner. So the place is empty. [light music]
I didn’t think you were going to be back till tomorrow.
You think I was gonna miss being with my very beautiful and very sexy wife on Valentine’s Day?
Mm-hmm. Well, you cut it pretty close.
Well, you should have seen the traffic.
Oh!
But hopefully… this will make up for it. [country music]
You don’t have to make up for it. I mean, you’re back. That’s all that matters.
Yeah, well, then maybe it’ll make up for what happened with “Body & Soul.” I know I told you on the phone this, but I am so sorry you had to give that show up.
I know. I’m gonna miss it. But I guess I’ll have to just put my efforts into some new endeavor, right?
That’s my Katie.
So what’s in it?
Well, why don’t we go upstairs and you can open it up after?
After what?
After “The Traitors.” [laughter]
Oh, my God, you know me too well. Wait, cookies. My darling. [laughter]
Believe me, Sarah, I don’t want the truth about that letter to come out any more than you do.
So we’re on the same page, then.
Absolutely.
Same page about what?
That I should take a room in the west wing.
Hmm, plenty of vacancies there.
Great. And I should go get settled.
Yeah, well, let us know if you need anything.
Thanks. Have a great night.
Philip, I just wanted to say that I’m glad you’re here.
Yeah?
Yeah. And I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating. I think our father would be very happy to see both his sons living under the same roof. It’s gonna be great for the company and the whole family.
I think that too.
Well, your dessert, madame. I brought this in from the outside world.
This isn’t from Sweet Bits.
It’s from the pub.
From the pub?
Go ahead and open it.
Huh. [tender music]
Xander, this is the same cake that I brought you.
That morning after Valentine’s Day a few years ago. It was such a perfect gift, I just had to reciprocate.
You do know that we’re already married, right?
Oh, I do.
[laughs]
Saying yes to you, best decision I ever made in my whole life.
I love you so much.
I love you with all my heart.
I’ll reach out to Shawn. We’ll look into all the allegations against Jada, see if anything links them to EJ.
Really? You’d do that?
Of course I would.
That’s amazing. I mean, if you’re able to prove that EJ was behind everything, well, I’ll…
You’ll what?
Well, I’ll start by… cleaning this room. [laughs]
Wow.
Mm.
Wow, you really mean business.
Yeah.
Look, are you sure you’re up for this? Going after EJ is never easy. [tense music]
After that bastard had me locked up for something I didn’t even do, I would love to see him put away for something he actually did.
I should get started right away.
Ah, ven aquí. Look, as much as I’d like to see EJ pay, it can wait till after Valentine’s Day.
Right.
Yeah.
No, it can definitely wait. [tender music]
I should go.
Yeah. Thanks for seeing me home.
Anytime. [dramatic music]
I can’t. Sorry. As much as I hate Rafe right now– and believe me, I really hate him…
I still love him.
Hey, I– I totally understand. I had a lot of fun tonight. But we got to make sure that we– we don’t do anything that we regret, especially considering you’re still thinking about Rafe and I’m still thinking about EJ and Belle.
So I assumed wrong that this is goodbye even though you threw a drink in my face.
I was upset.
Clearly.
But now that everything’s out in the open, I can be better prepared.
Prepared for what?
Whatever you’re gonna throw at me while you go after my job.
My job.
My job. And you should be warned, I give as good as I get.
Is that a threat?
What’s the matter? You afraid of a fair fight?
Oh, hardly. I look forward to it.
May the best DA win.
I will.
