THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!
[tense music]
Help! Somebody help!
Ava? Hey!
Brady!
Oh, my God. Oh, my God, are you– are you OK?
Yeah.
Are you all right?
I’m fine.
Are you hurt?
I’m fine, I’m fine. I’m so glad to see you.
Thank God. [tense bittersweet music]
God, I can’t believe– [Ava groans] I can’t believe you’ve been here this whole time. I had no idea. I’m sorry. Hey, I’m sorry I didn’t get to you earlier.
No.
You all right?
I’m fine. It’s OK.
It’s good to see you.
[chuckles] I’m so– [smooch] Brady. [tense somber music]
Damn. [Ava groans]
We have some time before Rachel’s therapy appointment.
Yeah, yeah. No, I know. I’m sorry I’m early. I just–I haven’t been sleeping that well.
Well, Rachel’s in the kitchen having breakfast. You want anything?
No. I’m fine, I’m fine.
I don’t think you are, Brady. You miss Ava. [somber music]
Rafe, why won’t you call me back? [suspenseful music]
[chuckles] [phone ringing] Not again. [person moaning on TV]
[people moaning on TV]
This is Rafe Fernandez. I can’t get to my phone right now. Please leave me a message.
[Jada sighs]
[phone ringing] [person moaning on tv]
Come on, girlie. Take the hint already.
[person moaning on TV]
[chuckling] Hey. My phone’s blowing up this morning.
What are you talking about, Feniger?
What I am talking about? I mean, Jada’s been calling me. I mean, it’s probably like the tenth time that she’s called me already. Must want some answers about what happened at the wedding.
I’m sure she does. [clears throat] Well done, by the way. I heard you gave quite the performance as the heartbroken groom.
Oh, yeah, I did. I really sold it.
Well, now that we’ve extricated Ms. Hunter from the commissioner’s office, the next step is to have you take her place.
So now I have to be the top cop?
You don’t want the job?
Well, it’s just, you know, I’ve never really been a 9:00 to 5:00 kind of guy. – Yeah, I gathered that. But rest assured, I will make it very much worth your while.
Well, I’m going to need you to be a little more specific.
And I’m going to need you to trust me. Do we have an understanding? Because I am not stopping now, not when we’re this close to the finish line. [suspenseful music]
[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”
Help! Somebody help! [Ava shouts] [ominous music] [sighs] It’s you.
Yes. And you’re wasting your breath. No one’s coming for you.
Brady will. I am sure of it. I just had a dream that he came through those doors.
Oh, how nice. But I’m afraid since Brady thinks you’ve flown off to China, your dream won’t be coming true.
I don’t blame you for being upset. I mean, my God, the woman took off to China without bothering to say goodbye to you.
I–I don’t wanna talk about it.
And if that wasn’t even hurtful, I mean, she broke up with you over text.
Kristen, did you hear me? I don’t wanna talk about it.
OK, fine.
Not like your relationship with Ava Vitali is, uh, my favorite topic of conversation. It’s just I don’t like to see you hurt, Brady. And you can’t take her ending things with you personally. She said she left because she didn’t want to come between you and Rachel.
Yeah, the problem is we just talked about this the other day. I told her that Rachel was seeking therapy and that there was no reason for us to end anything. And I thought she was on board. And then she gets on a plane without even telling me. I–
No, it surprised me, too. I mean, I really thought she cared about you. [sighs] Well, I mean, obviously, her feelings for you weren’t that deep, were they?
I guess not.
Aw, Brady. You–come on. You deserve so much better than this. You don’t deserve to be treated like that. [soft somber music]
We’ll talk later.
Yeah, we will. Because I am going to need some serious dinero.
I trust Harold restocked the toiletries?
Yes, he did. But don’t distract me, EJ. That call was about tanking Jada’s career, wasn’t it?
[scoffs] What do you mean?
I mean I just read “The Spectator.” And it seems that Rafe stopped the wedding and said he couldn’t marry Jada because he’d discovered a mountain of evidence that she’s a corrupt cop.
Well, despite the amount of evidence that Rafe is a bumbling idiot, turns out he’s quite the private detective.
[scoffing] Oh, well, you would know. Since you hired him. So all of this hell that Jada’s been going through, that’s all because of you, isn’t it? [tense music]
[knock at door]
Steve, hi.
I hope it’s not too early.
No, it’s fine. Please, come in. I am always happy to see you.
I called the police station, and they said you weren’t in.
Yeah, Paulina has me on administrative leave while they look into this so-called evidence against me.
I’m so sorry, Jada.
How is this possible? Just a few hours ago, you were walking me down the aisle. And now I’m under investigation for being a dirty cop? And I’m suspected for numerous crimes, none of which I committed.
I hope you know I don’t believe you did any of this.
Thank you, Steve. It means the world that you are here to support me. Which is much more than I can say for Rafe. Anyway, Rafe, I really need to talk to you. Please call me back as soon as you get this.
[chuckles] Sorry, babe. Not gonna happen. [knock at door] Jeez. Chick is relentless. Hey, can you get it through your head? I have nothing to say to say to– you.
Well, that’s too bad. Because I have something to say to you.
So Rafe’s not here?
When I finally got home last night, he was MIA. And I’ve left him a bunch of messages, but I haven’t heard back. Maybe he’s still at the inn?
Yeah. Listen, Jada, I know you’re hurting. But you’re not alone. You have plenty of people who care about you. And they’re going to do everything they can to make sure your name is cleared. I promise you that’s going to happen. [Jada sighs] And Rafe will come home.
Yeah, maybe after Gabi and Javi kick me out.
Oh, come on. That’s not going to happen.
[sighs] I–I can’t believe any of this is happening. Rafe knows me. As a cop and as a human being. And I thought that I knew him. It’s just–[sighs] This is just beyond out of character for him. Like, it’s freakin’ bizarre.
It sure is. That’s why we need to consider who hired Rafe in the first place. [suspenseful music]
Why did you hire Rafe, of all people, to dig up dirt on his own fiancée?
Do you have a problem with that?
I mean, I thought you would have a problem with that, considering how much you despise the man. And you just said you thought he was a lousy detective. Plus, Jada doesn’t even have so much as a parking ticket, so what would make you so sure that Rafe would find anything?
I wasn’t sure at all. I knew full well going in the search could come up empty.
But you went ahead with it anyway.
Well, given how egregiously I’ve been treated, I felt obligated to at least try.
You have an entire army of people on the DiMera payroll who do nothing but dig up dirt on people you want to destroy. So why wouldn’t you use one of them to do this for you?
Because, darling, if I produce the evidence myself, everyone will question it. But if it came from Rafe Hernandez, the very model of decency and fairness, it would be beyond reproach.
So, in other words, you used Rafe to dig up the dirt so you could be certain to bury his bride-to-be?
Boom, boom, boom.
[chuckling] Wow, EJ. I got to say, I mean, that is a truly despicable thing to do. [tense music]
Mayor Price, I’m sorry. I–I didn’t know it was you. Please, come in.
Thank you.
Yeah. So, uh, how’d you know that I was here?
I talked to your sister this morning. She said you’d spent the night here?
Yeah, I– I didn’t feel comfortable going home after… everything that happened.
You mean after you called off your own wedding to hand over all that evidence of Jada’s impropriety?
Yeah. Yeah, yeah, that.
Mm-hm, and the source of that information was a Salem PD detective, correct?
Yeah. Friend of mine owed me a favor.
OK, well, I am going to need that friend’s name.
Hmm.
It’s very romantic that you still feel that your knight in shining armor is going to appear. But I think you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.
You’re wrong. Brady is gonna know I didn’t write that stupid text.
Highly doubtful. That message I created for Rachel was quite convincing.
I–I never should have said anything about China.
Oh, but you did. And now Brady thinks you’ve left, sacrificing your relationship with him in the hopes that his precious daughter will come home.
No. Brady’s not going to believe that, because we decided that we didn’t need to break up because of Rachel.
Oh, but as your text said, you still felt that you did. So when Trapp called–
Tripp! You old bat, his name is Tripp.
So when Tripp, your son, invited you to China, you accepted. And decided that you would make plans to stay indefinitely, reconnecting, seeing the sights.
Oh, sounds lovely.
Doesn’t it? And it’s certainly a better story than just you just vanishing off the face of the Earth.
But what if it wasn’t a story? What if I made it the truth? [suspenseful music] [Kristen sighs]
I… I just wish Ava would have told me what she was thinking.
She never gave you a clue that she was leaving?
[sighs] She– she did tell me she felt partially responsible for Rachel running away. But I thought I’d convinced her to let that go. I just– I don’t understand why– why she didn’t come to me first and tell me.
Well, then ask her.
I tried calling her, and there’s no response.
Well, then, Brady, text her.
I–I thought, why would I text her? If she’s not picking up her phone, why would she answer her texts? But, you know, here I am, stewing and speculating. So why don’t I just text her? You know what? I’ll text her. I’ll do it right now.
Good idea. And while you’re doing that, I am going to go get Rachel’s backpack together. It’s about time. We have to go anyways.
Great.
All right. [suspenseful music] [notification chimes] What the–
[Kristen sighs]
The name?
Of the person that found those files for you.
Right, yeah. Yeah, and why do you need it again?
This is an official investigation now. That source provided a lot of serious evidence against Jada. I need to find out how they got it, when they got it, what their involvement might be.
Involvement?
Did they themselves commit any questionable acts? Did they have an ulterior motive? Also, Jada has the right to confront her accuser. So could you give me the name?
[inhales deeply] Yeah, right. Um… can’t do that.
Oof, despicable. That’s rather harsh.
And rather accurate.
I’m not sure how I became the villain in this situation when it was Ms. Hunter who cost me myjob. And at the very same time, she was convincing the mayor to have me fired for bending the rules, she was cutting corners left and right to earn herself a promotion.
Allegedly. Nothing’s been proven yet.
Mm.
Hmm.
Well, I can see why you’re holding out hope. Wouldn’t want to lose your champion.
[scoffs] My what?
Jada did get you installed as district attorney. Didn’t she? [Belle scoffs] Now that she’s on leave, she’s not around to protect you. [EJ inhales deeply] Tsk, tsk, tsk. Mm, poor thing. Now you’re suddenly out there all on your own,
Totally exposed. [soft upbeat jazz music]
I think you’re the one who should be careful.
Mm?
Because it is your most vital organ that is quite vulnerable.
I’m not sure I would consider that my most vital organ at the moment. [Belle chuckles]
Careful. [hand pats] Or you might find yourself totally exposed.
Really?
We’ll see about that. [Belle chuckles]
This has EJ DiMera’s signature all over it.
Yeah, and he obviously blames me for him losing his job. And he did threaten to retaliate, but I didn’t think he would take it this far.
When it comes to DiMera, there’s no such thing as too far.
OK, let’s back up for a sec. When I asked Rafe why he even agreed to dig up dirt on me for EJ, he said that he was sure that he wouldn’t find anything, that he just, you know, wanted to do it to make some extra money for our wedding. What? You don’t believe him?
No, I do.
What? Do you think that EJ made sure that Rafe would find something?
Yes, and the only way he could do that is if he manufactured it himself.
So EJ did this to get revenge.
Seems on-brand, right?
Absolutely. But the question is how do we prove it? [suspenseful music]
Why on Earth does Rachel have Ava’s phone?
It’s not locked. She must have disabled the passcode. And here’s Brady’s text that he just sent. And there’s Ava’s saying that she’s leaving town. Except she didn’t write these. Rachel did.
So if Ava’s not in Hong Kong, then where the hell is she? [sighs]
Oh, no.
Kristen? Is everything OK?
The truth? What do you mean?
I’ll go to Hong Kong for real. Look, all you care about is keeping me out of the way so Kristen and Brady can get back together. I mean, what a better way than sending me halfway around the world?
If I let you out that door, you’re going to call Brady the first chance you get.
No. No, I will not. [suspenseful music] Look, I have spent my fair share of time in mental hospitals for seeing people who weren’t there. So if I start popping off at the mouth about spending time with some mysterious woman in white, I’m going to get a one-way ticket back to Bayview. Look, I miss my son. He’s going to be married soon, and I want to be there. Look, this is a win-win. I get to see Tripp, you get to give Rachel exactly what she wanted, and you don’t have to worry about hiding me anymore. Please, I want to take this burden off of you.
How kind.
Look, all I’m saying is there are elements here that you cannot control. If I go to China, you will never hear from me again.
So what do you say?
[Paulina scoffs]
You can’t tell me the name of your source?
Yeah, well, like I said, a friend of mine did me a favor. And I promised them that there would be no blowback.
That’s a promise you shouldn’t have made.
Yeah, but this– this is Jada’s career we are talking about. Now, if I thought that there was anything that was off, without evidence, or if there was any red flag whatsoever that told me that it wasn’t legit, I would insist that you speak to the source. But I saw those files. And unfortunately, there is no need for that.
So you believe all of this about your fiancée?
Well, God knows I– I don’t want to. You know, I mean, just the thought of it, that– that I was going to marry this woman, I mean, it’s devastating. But I can’t say that, if I’m honest with myself, it’s at all surprising.
Meaning what?
[sighs] OK. Jada would never admit this, but there’s always a part of her that she felt like she was, um, an imposter. Yep. She was always trying to convince others that she was in the right place or, you know, constantly trying to– trying to, you know, make people believe that she deserved to be where she was at. And–[sighs] I don’t know, I– I just think that– that kind of behavior, you know, I think that– that can be dangerous. So unfortunately, um… I do believe it. [tense somber music]
But how do we prove that EJ manufactured the evidence?
I have a few ideas. So I guess that means you’re Black Patch’s newest client. Pro bono, of course.
Well, since my leave is unpaid, I am not going to fight you on that. Thank you.
Good. Well, I’m going to get started right away. But first, I have to go to the hospital and check on Kayla.
What? Why? What happened?
Oh, with everything that happened last night, I guess you haven’t heard. You remember Whitley King?
Of course, I do. The nurse who held Abe captive.
Yeah, well, turns out she was responsible for all the mayhem at “Body & Soul.” The tainted cupcakes, Bonnie’s accident.
I thought she was in Bayview.
Well, that didn’t stop her from going on the attack. Last night, she sent the entire cast scripts laced with poison. And since Kayla was the newest cast member–
Oh, my God, Steve. Why didn’t you say something?
Well, they have an antidote and everybody’s going to be fine. But I–I need to get going and just check on Kayla.
Yes, yes, please. Please go. And please tell her that I’m thinking of her.
I will.
Yes.
Like I said, as soon as I’m finished at the hospital, I’m on the case.
I really appreciate that, Steve. But in the meantime, I am going to get to the bottom of this myself.
What was that?
What?
I heard something. Samantha, is that you?
Oh! That is not funny.
Are you sure you don’t want to hide in the closet just in case?
We talked about this. [EJ chuckles] We agreed that we were not going to live in fear of my sister.
True, but it wouldn’t hurt to batten down a few of the hatches. I mean, you said it yourself. Now that your mother knows about our reconnection, it’s quite possible that Samantha could find out as well.
Yeah, and what is she going to do? Other than totally freak out?
Go after my vital organs.
[laughs] No. She’s gonna–she’s gonna have a temper tantrum, she’s gonna tell us both to go to hell, and then she’s gonna storm out like she does every other time. You and Sami are divorced. Shawn and I are divorced. We can do whatever we want. There is no reason to hide.
Strong argument, counselor. [Belle chuckles] I like it.
Mm.
Mwah. Now you go and have a shower. I’ll have Cook bring us some pastries, and I’ll meet you downstairs.
That sounds like a plan.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah. [tense music]
So I could send you to China and be rid of you for good?
Exactly. And then you can go back to doing… whatever it is you do here.
Mm. It’s a very tempting offer. But I’m afraid I can’t take you up on it.
Why not?
Well, the truth is I don’t have much to do. And no one ever comes round here anymore. Except the Parrot Man. And he’s not a great conversationalist. So these little exchanges, this is the most I’ve spoken to a person in years.
So you won’t let me leave because you want to have someone to chat with?
I won’t let you leave because I don’t trust you. I’m sure as soon as you get to Hong Kong, you’re gonna turn right around and come right back.
No, no, I promise I won’t.
There, there, dear. It’s OK. I’ve already made up my mind.
Should we grab Rachel and head out?
Yeah, you know, Brady, I am not feeling very well.
What’s wrong?
[sighs] I–I don’t know. My head just started pounding.
Mm-hmm. Well, we’re headed towards the hospital. Why don’t we stop at the doctor’s office and you can have that checked out?
No, no, it’s not that serious. It’s just probably from all the craziness that’s been happening these past few days. It’s just catching up to me now. Would– would you mind, uh, taking Rachel to her appointment? I’m just gonna head upstairs and lie down for a bit.
Sure. Yeah, no–no problem.
Thanks. [suspenseful music]
EJ, are you down here? I thought we were gonna have– breakfast. [sighs] OK. [approaching footsteps]
Belle. What are you doing here?
I, uh, I just stopped by to see my nephew, Johnny. What brings you by?
I need to talk to EJ. Have you seen him? [tense music]
Rise and shine, Hernandez. Breakfast is served. [sniffs] Ooh. Whoop.
[EJ humming]
Ugh.
Oh, stop it.
What the hell are you doing here? Where’s your henchwoman?
Oh, Rita had other business to attend to.
Oh, yeah? Is she out maybe getting Arnold and Jada a wedding present? Matching his and hers tasers?
A wedding present? I thought I told you. I made it very, very clear that that wedding wouldn’t be happening. And it didn’t.
Oh, God. What did you do?
Not me. Arnold. He did exactly what I told you he would do. He outed Jada as a corrupt cop and dumped her at the altar.
I appreciate your honesty, Rafe. I can’t imagine that this is easy for you.
No, it hasn’t been. I care about Jada very much. As–as do you.
Oh, I feel terrible about all of this. But as I said, these are very serious allegations. And, well, as mayor, I had to sideline Jada while we look into all of them. Of course, I have to appoint a new police commissioner. At least temporarily. [suspenseful music] – So now I have to be the top cop?
You don’t want the job?
Well, it’s just, you know, I’ve never really been a 9:00 to 5:00 kind of guy. – Yeah, I gathered that. But rest assured, I will make it very much worth your while.
So you need someone to step in for Jada?
I just said that I did, didn’t I?
OK. Well, how about me?
Hey, Brady.
Hey.
I’m so glad to hear you found little Rachel.
Mm.
Is she OK?
Yeah, no, she’s fine. We’re just here for a therapy appointment.
Oh, gotcha.
Yeah, it turns out part of her grand plan was running away, hoping that she would get her parents back together. Although that’s not going to happen anytime soon, it made us realize that she could use the help of a child psychologist. Thank you, by the way.
For what?
For helping Ava with those texts that she was getting.
Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I found out one of them was sent from the DiMera mansion. Ava was sure it was Kristen.
Yeah, so was I. But, um– [clicks tongue]
What? Are you telling me it was Rachel?
Yeah. Yeah. She thought Ava was some kind of an obstacle. And… it turns out she isn’t anymore, though.
What do you mean?
Ava broke up with me. She actually just left for Hong Kong to see Tripp.
She did? Well, that’s strange.
How come?
Tripp didn’t say a word about it to me. [tense music]
[words muffled] Come on. Come on, come on! Damn it! [door opens]
Hello? Is anyone here?
Kristen!
Oh, my God. Just as I thought. [Kristen sighs]
Ugh. Oh, God. Thank God, Kristen. Oh! How did you find me?
Um, you know, I– I found your phone in Rachel’s backpack, along with my scrapbook about Aremid. And so I just put two and two together. But the thing that I don’t understand, how did you get here?
Rachel called me and she said she needed help. She gave me this address. I immediately called Brady. I left him a message and I–
Right, right, right, right. The reception was bad and your message got cut off. That’s all. Yeah. He played it for me and Johnny. He wanted to see if we could figure out what you said. And in the end, it was all garbled.
And Rachel knew that. She knew that Brady didn’t hear me say that I was on my way here. And that is why he thought I went to China.
Rachel did this all by herself, tied you up and left you here?
No, she didn’t do it by herself. She had help.
I actually don’t know where EJ is. But I’m assuming this is about what happened at the wedding yesterday.
You heard?
Yeah, I read it in the paper this morning.
Well, don’t believe everything you read. I am completely innocent, which is why I need to speak to EJ. He is obviously behind this whole thing.
Jada is not a corrupt cop, you son of a bitch.
Mm. I’m quite certain the investigation will prove that she is. And now that there’s a vacancy for police commissioner, I’m going to make sure that Arnold fills it. Attaboy.
Yeah, right. That moron running Salem PD? He’ll never pull it off.
I don’t see why not. He’s impersonating you. And being a moron was your, uh, forte. [EJ chuckles]
You really are scum.
Mm, mm, mm. What I am, Hernandez, is one giant step to getting exactly what I wanted. Here. Come on.
You want me to appoint you as interim commissioner?
Well, I just want to do whatever I can to make a challenging situation easier. Now, this is obviously your call. And I completely understand if you have someone else in mind.
Oh, honestly, I don’t. Shawn, he did the job previously. But that was a bit of a disaster because he had a drinking problem back then.
Yeah. Uh, look, I understand how this looks, rehiring a guy that you– you just got rid of. But the public knows me and they trust me. And I’ve never been involved in any kind of scandal. My record is spotless. And I think that that’s exactly what you need right now, considering the suspicion surrounding Jada.
Mm. With the city council just breathing down my neck, I need to get somebody in that job right away. [suspenseful music]
You’re hired.
Oh.
I talked to Tripp last week, and he didn’t say a thing about Ava being there.
Well, this– this just happened. She texted me yesterday to let me know she landed in Hong Kong. I was blindsided by it.
So she didn’t tell you she was going?
No. No, I’ve been reaching out to her with no response. I mean, it’s fine if she doesn’t want to make a big deal or have a big talk about this. But I’d love to know that she was OK.
Yeah. Well, it’s not too late there yet. How about I give Tripp a call?
I’d appreciate that.
[phone beeps]
Hey, son. It’s your dad. No, no, no, everything’s OK. I’m just here with Brady. And he’d like to talk to your mom. Could you put her on? Oh. She’s not there? [dramatic music]
What do you mean, Rachel had help?
There is someone else here.
Who? Is it the Parrot Man?
No, she told me to call her the Woman in White.
The Woman in– what are you talking about?
Kristen, my love, is that you?
Mother?
