THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

[dramatic music]

“Can’t wait to celebrate with you when I get home, Doc. “Happy seventh anniversary, my darling. “Love and miss you more than words could say. John.”

[sighs]

There you are. I thought I might find you in here with him. Happy anniversary.

Thank you, sweetheart. Well, I don’t remember that one. Is that one of Victoria’s birthday presents?

Mm. Not exactly. This is for you.

[doorbell rings]

Oh, Kristen.

Marlena. Is Brady here?

No, he’s not. He and Tate went out for a while.

OK, well, you know what?

[clears throat] I will just sit here and wait.

[scoffs]

Thanks for helping me set this up, Johnny.

Yeah, no problem. I think a family baseball game is a perfect way to celebrate Grandma and Grandpa’s anniversary.

Yeah, me too. Looks like the weather’s gonna cooperate too. Hey, I especially want to thank you for helping me out ’cause I know it’s– I know it’s kind of a difficult time for you right now.

Yeah, so you heard about what happened at my birthday?

I did. How are you and Chanel doing?

Not great, but… you know, we’re trying to get through it. Anyway, I don’t want to talk about me anymore. I just want to–I’m looking forward to this game.

Yeah, yeah. No, it’s gonna be good to have the whole family together.

Hey, speaking of family, where’s Tate?

He’s got some community service that he’s finishing. He should be here soon.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

[dramatic music]

He’s adorable.

[chuckles]

I’m just– I’m not sure I get it.

Oh, it’s like–I guess it’s a whole thing. Apparently…. ivory was the standard th-anniversary gift.

Ah. Clever.

[laughs]

And ethical too.

Mm-hmm.

Thank you.

I’m sorry. I thought that it would put a smile on your face.

It does. It does. But before you got here, I was thinking about my th anniversary last year. And I was standing here staring at that same portrait, feeling very lost but comforted. Comforted by Konstantin’s presence.

[sighs] He gave me a gift that day too. Oh, yes, the lace. The lace tablecloth that he bought at the bargain bin at Saxton’s.

Mm-hmm. I think you mean the precious Kiriakis family heirloom that he brought back from the old country.

Yes, one and the same.

[both laugh] He thought he could win me over with gifts. Yeah, like he had a chance. I had two wonderful marriages, Sarah, and I could never give my heart to anyone else now.

Mm, I beg to differ.

What?

You already have. Victor’s namesake. Your adoring granddaughter.

Oh. Ah, to my beautiful little girl who moved into my world the day of Victor’s funeral, no less.

[chuckles]

She put a spark in my heart that day, Sarah, and I needed that. And now…

[sighs] She is the reason that I look forward to every new morning, because she’s pure. She’s joy.

I agree.

Yeah.

That gift, by the way…

Yeah.

Just for the record, it is, in fact, from Victoria.

Oh.

And there’s a little button. And if you press it, you can hear her little voice. I tried to get her to say, I love you, Nana, but it kind of more came out like…

[babbles] So…

[laughs] Well, fortunately, I do speak Victoria.

[both laugh] And I may even let her play with my new toy.

[chuckles] Is it true that elephants never forget?

I don’t know.

But I do know… that I’ll always remember this amazing man.

So how’s it going?

OK. I was just picking up some pastries. It’s my grandma’s wedding anniversary today.

Really? You know mine too?

Wow, what a coincidence.

Yeah. Yeah, it is. I’m actually on the way to the park to play a little family baseball game to celebrate.

Well, have fun.

Holly, wait.

I can’t believe Tate is already a senior.

I know. Me neither. It’s like he went from to just like that.

Yeah.

But it’s also because I’ve barely seen him these last couple years, you know?

Well, you’re making up for lost time now, right?

Yeah, I suppose I am. Guess I got my brother Eric to thank for that. If he hadn’t figured out that I was innocent in that hit-and-run involving Sarah, Johnny, I’d have lost ten more years with my son.

Yeah. Yeah, Uncle Eric, he’s a hero.

Probably the best brother that anybody could have.

Whoa. What am I, chopped liver, huh?

[laughs]

Hmm. Well, those are beautiful flowers. Mm. Is it your birthday?

No, it’s our anniversary.

Oh. Well, happy, happy. Are you and John doing anything exciting?

John’s out of town with his dad.

Oh, that’s right. His long-lost father, the famous Timothy Robicheaux. I mean, it is wonderful that the two of them found each other but very, very disappointing that John is going to miss the special day.

He won’t be missing it. He’ll be home tonight.

[laughs] Well, I’m glad he could squeeze you in.

I’m not gonna respond to your sarcasm.

Marlena, I’m just joking, hmm? I wanted to see if you liked the cookies that Rachel sent over the other day.

I did. I would have liked them more if she’d been allowed to bring them herself.

Yes, well, that is actually what I want to talk to Brady about.

[doorbell rings]

Excuse me.

Uh-huh.

[gasps]

Hi!

Oh! Belle! Oh, darling.

[laughs]

[sighs]

Holly should be here soon, and then we can enjoy our tea and celebrate your– your anniversary.

Are you all right?

Mm-hmm. Yeah, it’s just a twinge.

Well, let me go get your meds, OK?

Please don’t, Mom. I hate the way that those pills make me feel. They just make me all groggy, and I really just– I want to be present for today.

Honey.

I’m fine. I promise.

You know, Philip, he was wrong to block that transfer of Titan to Kristen. I don’t care what he says about protecting Victor’s legacy. I know Victor would agree with me. I know that.

Hello, ladies. Anybody hungry?

Julie.

Hi.

I come bearing Grandma Alice’s doughnuts. And happy anniversary, darling.

Oh, you’re so sweet to remember.

Oh, sure.

Oh, and to bring all these. Oh, my goodness.

Well, Doug wanted to send his regards ’cause he has a little winter cold right now, and I’m gonna pick him up some chicken soup at the deli on the way home.

I write that prescription weekly.

I bet you do.

[laughter] Well, Doug’s been feeling down. I think it must be because of the Abigail situation.

Of course it is. We all are. And, God, Chad, what he must be going through.

Oh, he was betrayed in the worst possible way.

Did they find out who this woman is?

[dramatic music]

That’s where the interesting wrinkle comes in, Maggie. As it turns out, she is the granddaughter of Konstantin.

What?

What was her mother’s name?

Catharina.

I don’t understand. Was it the same woman that John accidentally killed when he was The Pawn?

Yes.

Ugh!

That is, if you believe a word out of that woman’s mouth.

Hmm.

Yes, John didn’t kill anybody, intentionally or otherwise. As it turned out, shots were fired. She survived somehow, got married, had a family.

So she lived. Oh, my God. So John must be so relieved that he doesn’t have her blood on his hands.

Not just John. Now we know that Victor didn’t use The Pawn to kill Catharina, Victor’s exonerated too. And like John, Mom, you can let go of that guilt.

Thank you.

I’m so glad you made it, man.

It’s so great to see you. I’ve missed my family.

Yeah, we missed you too. I didn’t think you were gonna be able to fly in.

No, I didn’t think I was gonna be able to come. But, you know, I moved my schedule around last-minute, and here I am. Dude, Johnny. How you been? Good to see you.

Hey, Paul. I’m good. I’m good. How are you?

Yeah, good.

Good to see you.

I didn’t mean to put any pressure on you to be here today, but we can’t have a family baseball game without the baseball star of the family.

Come on, Dude, you, Tate, Johnny, you guys are gonna put me to shame.

I don’t know about that. I think last time I played, I did a golden sombrero, which is where you strike out four times in one game.

[laughs] Well, we’re not gonna let that happen today, OK? I’m not gonna throw any knuckleballs.

I’m gonna hold you to that.

Hey, you being here, it’s gonna be a huge surprise for Dad and Marlena. However, it’s not the only one that they have in store.

What is it?

I just wanted to say that I feel really terrible about this whole situation.

Why? I mean, you didn’t know I wanted to get back together when you started sleeping with Sophia, so…

Yes, but–

But nothing, Tate. I don’t think there’s anything left to say here except goodbye.

Mm, happy anniversary, Mom.

Oh, I’m so glad you came. Your dad’s gonna be thrilled to see you.

Well, I can’t wait to see him either. And I didn’t know you had company.

Hmm. Hello, my future sister-in-law.

Oh, future sister-in-law?

Well, that is the plan. How is your husband? Or is it ex-husband? I never know what your current status is with the two of you.

Ah, well, nor do I feel compelled to share that with you.

Oh.

Kristen’s been perched here waiting for Brady to come home.

Mm.

I told her it would be a while, but you know how she is.

[knock at door] Who could that be?

Hey, Marlena.

I knew what kind of man Victor was when I married him. And then Konstantin came and stirred up a lot of doubts and guilt.

He was here to play you from day one, Mom. I bet you he knew his daughter was alive all along.

No, Sarah, I don’t think so. That pain behind his eyes was real. But that drove his hatred for Victor.

[dramatic music] And then we find out it was completely baseless. And that made Victor’s death all the more senseless.

Oh, honey, I’m so sorry my news upset you.

No. No, Julie. I’m just grateful that I know now Victor was innocent of all this. And especially today.

Sorry I’m late. Oh, hi, Mrs. Williams.

Hello, Holly.

Julie just stopped by with some doughnuts.

What a gracious way of saying I crashed your party.

[laughs]

Oh, don’t be silly. We love having you join us.

Glad they were out of doughnuts, then. I would have been here earlier but had to figure out something else and resort to plan B. So these should do.

Holly, are you all right?

Yeah. Yeah, of course. Actually, no. I just ran into Tate on my way home.

Oh. Did you have a chance to talk to him?

Yeah, we actually talked yesterday.

Mm.

I told him that I was sorry and that I wanted to get back together, but he said no. He’s with someone else now.

Oh, no.

Yeah, my ex-BFF, Sophia.

Holly, I’m so sorry.

Yeah, so guess he and I are done for good now.

Oh, my dear, I wouldn’t be sure about that.

Hey.

Hey, look who decided to show up.

Oh, my God, Uncle Paul, look at you.

Great to see you, Tate.

Hey. Wow. What is this, a setup? No one told me there was gonna be a ringer here.

Yeah, well, me neither. But just so you know, when we pick teams, I got dibs on Paul.

[laughs] Wow. It’s been a while, huh?

Yeah, it has. Last time we saw each other, you were visiting Andrew, right?

Yeah. Wow, yes, that was the last time, yeah.

How’s lacrosse camp?

It’s–it’s– it’s a long story. Is Uncle Andrew here with you?

No, he’s on an ISA assignment.

Everything’s OK with you two, though, right?

Yeah. Couldn’t be better. In fact, can you guys keep a secret?

Sure.

Yeah? So when Andrew and I get back home, I plan on popping the question.

[laughs]

All right. Wow.

It’s so good to see you. Come in. Come in.

It’s good to see you too, Marlena, Belle.

Yeah, Andrew, it’s great to see you. And you know Kristen DiMera, don’t you?

I certainly know of her.

Ah, of course you do. Through my nephew Dimitri. By the way, he is so grateful for all the help that you gave him… as was I, of course.

Yeah, I got that.

So is Paul with you?

No, he’s back home in San Francisco.

Oh. Are you gonna see Tate?

Yeah, as much as I hope to see him on this trip, I actually came to see you. My father sent me.

Shane sent you?

Yeah. He asked me to deliver a message in person. It’s about John.

Wait, what’s going on? Is my dad OK? Did something happen?

Your father’s fine, but he’s been called to Washington, D.C., because the ISA needed him to consult on a very important case that requires his expertise.

I see.

Oh, that’s just awful. I mean, it’s his wedding anniversary, for heaven’s sake.

Please, do you mind? This is none of your business.

[dramatic music] So would you please thank Shane for me?

Of course. And I’m so sorry about the timing, but it was something of an emergency. And John wanted me to let you know that he hated so much to miss your special day, and he asked me to deliver this gift for you.

Well, that was fun.

No, you did great, man. You all did.

Well, yeah, I thought so. I even managed to hit the ball a couple times.

It’s too bad it was a pop-up.

Too bad you dropped it.

Well, I’m not gonna talk about my errors. So why don’t we talk about something more uplifting, like the fact that this guy is gonna pop the question, as he put it?

Yeah, Paul, when are you gonna– when are you gonna propose?

Well, I already bought the ring, and I’ve had it hidden in my bag for a few weeks now so Andrew wouldn’t find it. But as for when I’m gonna pop the question, see, I’ve been thinking. I think when Andrew and I are back home and the moment just feels right.

Wow. That is such great news.

I mean, only if he says yes.

Oh, but you know he’s gonna say yes.

Well, I mean, I hope, but I have my hesitations. I’m a bit gun-shy ’cause, you know, what happened with Sonny. Yeah, walking all the way down the aisle, only to have Ben Weston walk in and… tell everyone that Will was alive.

That was a very bizarre situation.

Yeah, true, true. So, you know, I know I should be more optimistic that there will be no such situation like that again. But I don’t know. Again, it’s all dependent on if Andrew says yes.

Oh, come–which he will.

[laughs]

How long have you guys been together anyway? What, two years?

Yeah, almost. Yeah, you know, when Dad came up to Gay Pride parade in San Fran, that was a huge turning point for Andrew and me. Yeah, it really brought us a whole bunch of luck.

Yeah. I love that Dad did that.

Dude, you guys should have seen him. He was dressed in his tie-dye finest, and he was so full of spirit. Man, I mean, he was % there for us.

Yeah, he was happy to be there. He wouldn’t stop talking about it when he came home.

Dude, I mean, I was just so proud of him for being there. Dude, he’s the best dad ever.

Amen to that.

And you know what? He’s the best grandpa too. Guys, we should head home. He should be back soon.

Yeah, we should. We should be heading back.

OK.

I want to go and stop and see Maggie because it’s actually Victor and Maggie’s anniversary too.

Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, I heard about that.

You want to come?

Nah. Nah, that’s OK. But please give Maggie my love.

You don’t want to see Holly?

I just–it’s not a good idea since I’m not getting back with her.

Oh.

Yeah, look, Dad, I appreciated your advice, but I just didn’t think it was the right thing to do because of Sophia.

Hey, hey, I understand that, OK? Things will happen the way they’re supposed to happen, all right? Promise.

Respectfully, you don’t know the whole story, Mrs. Williams. See, I’m the one who broke up with Tate. I can’t exactly ask him to take me back twice.

Holly, we have all lived the whole story at one point or another.

Each in our own way.

Yeah.

Mm-hmm, definitely. And for myself, I can say it does feel like Xander and I wrote the book on breaking up and getting back together.

Not that you expect to be experts in this field.

Definitely not. And as Mom knows all too well, it wasn’t that long ago that I wanted to keep the man who is now my husband as far away from me and our daughter as humanly possible. And now I couldn’t imagine my life without him. And I wouldn’t want to.

And when I was Sarah’s age decades ago– well, I think I’ll give you the Cliff Notes version. Otherwise, we’ll be here all afternoon, OK?

OK.

A long time ago, I visited Maggie, and there was a fire in the kitchen. And that was the day Maggie saved my life. But I was burned, and my face was disfigured.

And I walked out on my husband. I just couldn’t imagine how this wonderful man that I loved could continue to love me the way I looked then.

Wow, that’s really sad.

Yes, it was sad. It was also very stupid. I underestimated my darling. I underestimated myself. When I came to my senses, I got a little plastic surgery and changed my attitude and got my husband back. And I’m happy to report we celebrated our th wedding anniversary two months ago.

Wow. And was he the first love of your life?

No, darling. When I was a teenage girl, I fell in love with a teenage boy. Problem was, he ran off with my teenage best friend.

Oh.

So you see, I know what you’re going through. I thought my life was over. Clearly, it was not. Sarah, your grandma, me all had our hearts broken. But just think about this. There is more room in a broken heart. We’ve all lived to tell the tale.

And believe me, we’re not discounting the pain that you’re feeling right now, Holly. Oh, honey, listen. I have no doubt you’re gonna have lots of twists and turns ahead for you, for Tate, for the both of you. And I know Sarah and your grandma knows I never thought I’d fall in love again after my husband Mickey died. And good heavens, definitely not with Victor Kiriakis, who on the surface is perhaps the least most romantic man in the world. But when I got to know him, when I fell in love with him, I discovered he had a very big heart. And he was also very romantic and very loving. So I was twice blessed. And I’m never gonna stop being grateful for the wonderful life that I had with your Grandpa Victor, who made me very, very happy.

Right. And you saw Doug and I go through plenty to achieve the beautiful, happy, supportive marriage we enjoy now. So I’m grateful too.

How lucky we are both, Julie.

We both are. I’ll say so.

[laughs]

Well, thank you all for giving me so much hope. You really lifted my spirits.

So glad we were able to do that. Now, sweetie, in matters of the heart, when you are hurt, when you are rejected, when everything in the world seems bleak, I want you to remember it can all change just like that. So never say never, OK?

OK. Never say never.

Well, this has been lovely, but I should be getting home to Doug. And thank you for letting me crash the party.

Thank you for staying and for the doughnuts.

Oh, yes.

Welcome, darling. Welcome.

I actually have to get going too, but don’t clean up. I’ll be home later to help.

OK.

I’ll walk out with you.

Oh, good.

I have drop something off at my friend’s house.

OK. Love you two.

Love you, Julie.

Love you so much. Please give our love to Doug as well.

I’ll give him kisses from the two hot honeys.

[laughter]

Bye, guys. Love you.

Bye, honey.

[laughs]

[sighs] You know, it was a much nicer day than I imagined it was gonna be.

For me too.

[dramatic music]

Oh. It’s a charm for my bracelet. “All my love. “All my life. John.”

It’s perfect.

It is.

[knock at door]

Hey, Johnny.

Oh, hey, darling.

How’s it going? Happy anniversary, Grandma.

Oh, thank you, sweetheart.

Yeah. And look who I brought.

Oh!

What?

Paul, oh, my goodness.

Hey, everyone.

Andrew!

I didn’t know you’d be here.

Oh, my gosh. I didn’t know you were gonna be here. This is great. I took a flight to surprise Mom and Dad for their anniversary. What are you doing?

I actually came to deliver the news that your dad won’t be here today.

Oh, no. Is everything OK?

Yeah, he was actually summoned to D.C. by my dad on ISA business.

Well, this is wildly fascinating, since I’ve been rudely ignored, patiently waiting for Brady. Can someone kindly tell me where the hell he is? Hmm?

Oh!

Brady, hi.

Hope I’m not interrupting a party.

No, no, not at all. Please, come in. Have a doughnut. Have several doughnuts. Have all of the doughnuts, please. We will forever be in your debt.

Mm. Happy anniversary.

Oh, Brady.

Come here.

Thank you, Brady.

You’re welcome.

Oh.

Got you a little something.

Well, thank you again.

I hope you’re having a good day so far.

It’s been an unexpectedly delightful day. And you just made it so much better.

I’m glad. It’s nice of you to say. Sarah, I talked to Kristen. She said the serum is just about ready.

Oh. Except, well, Xander’s been stopped from handing Titan over to Kristen, so the news about the serum really doesn’t mean much to me.

What are you talking about?

Brady had to make a stop on his way home.

[laughs] Great. All right, well, this has been an absolute ball. I am leaving now. Oh, Marlena, please tell Brady that I want to talk to him.

Of course I will.

Oh, happy anniversary. Without your husband.

[laughs]

Bye-bye.

Bye.

Ooh.

Ain’t she a ray of sunshine?

Always. But now that she’s not here raining on our parade, you give me a hug, brother.

[laughs] It’s good to see you, sis. You are looking as beautiful as ever.

Oh, stop.

As lovely as this moment is, what a great reunion, I’m just so sorry that John isn’t here to enjoy it.

Well, actually, there is something that we can celebrate.

What? What do you mean?

[chuckles] I was planning on doing this the next time you came to visit. But since we’re all here together, the moment seems right.

Andrew Donovan, will you marry me?

[dramatic music]

[sighs]

Did Brady get out OK?

Fine.

Yeah. Mom, I swear I thought he knew about the serum and what Kristen demanded of Xander to give it to him.

Yeah, he obviously didn’t.

[sighs] If you’re all right, I’m gonna go check on Victoria.

Of course. Before you go…

Mm-hmm.

I want to thank you for a lovely day, Sarah, darling.

Love you.

Love you too.

Happy anniversary, my love.

Well, any chance I can get an answer?

Yes. Yes, of course.

[applause]

Yay! Oh, this is so awesome.

This is wonderful.

Yeah, so, so happy for you guys.

Wow, wow. Oh, I wish John were here to share this moment with us.

[laughs]

[sighs]

[phone ringing] Oh, sorry.

[clears throat] Oh! It’s John.

Oh, great timing.

Hello, darling. Yes. Happy anniversary to you too. Yes, yes, yes. He arrived. And he brought your gift. It’s so sweet. I just love it. Mm-hmm. Oh, you know what? Wait. I have a special surprise for you too. Hold on.

Hey, Dad, it’s Paul. Happy anniversary.

[laughs] Yeah, well, we all sure do miss you too. And I have some exciting news to share with you.

Brady. Did Marlena tell you I stopped by?

Marlena? No. No, no, no, I just wanted to see you for myself.

[laughs] You did?

Yeah, I just got finished telling Tate what a wonderful and selfless thing it was that you did for Sarah.

Oh. Well, it’s no wonder my ears were ringing.

Yeah, just it’s too bad it was all a damn lie.

Yes, it is wonderful news about Paul and Andrew. Oh, I miss you too, Dad. Well, we all wish you were here, too, but we know what you’re doing is important, so… OK. I love you too. Happy anniversary. I’m gonna give you back to Mom now, OK? OK.

Thanks. Hey, I’m back.

[sighs] Yes. It’s true. We do have great kids. Yes, and we have great grandkids too. I’d say that we have built a wonderful family.
