THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!

The second half of the serum is ready to go, right, Rolf?

[dramatic music] No, no, no, no, no. When I give you the word.

[sighs] Good, good. Just keep it close to the vest. I don’t want Xander getting one precious drop, not until I see the name DiMera on the Titan stationery. And if that Neanderthal does not come through, well, I guess Sarah will just be rolling around in a wheelchair for the rest of her life.

[birds chirping]

[door clicks open]

Hey.

Hey.

You want to come in?

Yeah. Thanks.

I’m sorry I didn’t respond to your text last night. I just saw it this morning.

No, it’s OK. I take it you were busy then?

Holly, there’s something that I need to tell you.

OK. What is it?

I was with Sophia last night.

Yes, Mom, don’t worry. I’m gonna do the laundry and unload the dishwasher. Yes, I know the boys have soccer practice. I’ll pick them up. No, Brianna and I didn’t stay up too late. But we did get a lot of studying done.

So this is the second time Philip has come home to Salem without informing his mother.

Let’s see how he feels about me showing up unannounced.

[lock beeps and clicks] Guess who!

Vivian?

Mm-hmm.

What the hell are you doing here, in my son’s room, no less?

Excuse me, I think you mean my son.

[sighs] Let’s hope your ex-wife can talk your stupid son Philip out of blocking my deal. Because if Kate can’t stop him– Kristen won’t do it– well, I may just have to kill the son of a bitch myself.

You might have to kill me, huh? Wonder what our father would think about that.

He doesn’t appear to object.

Xander, the big man, the pauper who became a prince and now king.

What the hell are you doing, Philip?

I grew up in this house, remember? While you were tending the garden, my father was showing me what it means to be a Kiriakis man, a real one. Which is why I deserve to run this company.

[lock clicks] And you’re quaking in your boots, aren’t you, that I’m gonna take it away from you?

That’s not what this is about. You know that.

And look what we have here. Right where my father left it. Just as I thought.

You really want to kill me?

Here. Have at it.

[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”

Hey, Rolf, I got to go. Mm-hmm.

[dramatic music] Well, Brady, this is an unexpected surprise.

[sighs] I have a belated Halloween gift for Rachel.

That was very thoughtful of you. She’s gonna love that.

[laughs]

Yeah. Was that–was that Rolf?

Yes, yes, I was just checking to see how the serum for Sarah was going. I mean, we’re all praying that she’s out of that wheelchair very soon.

Yeah. Got to say, it’s a wonderful thing that you’re doing for her, especially when you’re not expecting anything in return, you know? Which, Kristen, it’s a little out of character for you.

I don’t mean to offend you with that comment. I’m just saying, by your own admission, you haven’t always been altruistic.

Well, I mean, Brady, the thing is–

The thing is what?

Is there going to be a problem handling the serum over to Sarah, Kristen?

Go on. Take it, brother.

Don’t play games with me, Philip. It won’t end well for you.

You’re all talk, Xandy. The opposite of my father. You run around threatening people, but your follow-through, sadly lacking.

How’s this for follow-through?

Your son?

Yes, the one I blissfully carried for nine months.

OK, so you’re just as delusional as ever. You stole my embryo. My embryo. So that means you carried my son.

I’ve heard this argument before, and it bores me.

Oh, my God. Where is Philip? Philip!

Ah.

[laughs] I’m afraid he’s not here.

Oh, he’s not here. Well, I’m gonna go look for him, then. You stay the hell away from him.

Actually, I won’t be doing that because, you see, Philip and I are a package.

Stefan, where are you? It’s– it’s almost lunchtime, OK? And I haven’t talked to you since yesterday, so I’ve got some questions that need some answers before I can process payroll. Please call me back, Stefan, ASAP.

Ms. Vitali. Hey.

Hey, Sophia. Wait, shouldn’t you be in school?

No, it’s a day off, a teacher in-service day. Speaking of days off–

OK, Sophia, you know how much I like you, but I’ve already had two people call out. Please do not be the third.

Oh, I won’t be. I was just gonna see if I could switch shifts. But if there isn’t anyone to cover me, then–

Oh, there isn’t. I am so sorry. I need you in tonight.

Right. OK. I get it.

Oh, God. Did I just ruin your life? Did you have some major plans this evening?

No, I was just gonna see if Tate wanted to hang out, but it’s fine.

Aw, Tate, huh? So I take it things are going well?

You could say that.

[chuckles]

[laughing] Oh! From that smile, seems like things are going very well.

Yeah, they are.

[light music] Actually, last night–

What? Actually, last night what?

We slept together.

You were with Sophia last night?

Holly, I had no–

Tate, please. You don’t have to explain, really. I know what’s going on with her.

[dramatic music]

You–you do?

Yeah, of course I do. She’s been trying to move in on you. I knew that before I left for Paris, and I was super jealous, obviously. But we were broken up, and– we are broken up. It’s just–

It’s just what?

Tate, when I texted you last night and you didn’t respond, well, I don’t know, I thought that you hated me and you never wanted to talk to me again. But now that I’m here with you– Tate, I screwed up so badly. I made a huge and horrible mistake, which I know now. And I guess what I’m trying to say is, if I un-broke up with you, would you take me back?

Sophia, have a seat.

[light music]

[sighs] Uh-oh.

No, no, no, no, no “uh-oh.” It’s just, look, I want to make sure that– I know that I told you to go for it with Tate. And it just seems like this is all moving really fast. This seems like it happened all of a sudden, no?

No, no. I’ve wanted this for a long time. And it actually happened organically. OK, last night, he invited me back to his place to watch a movie, and–

Yeah, and we all know what that’s code for.

No, no. He didn’t plan for this to happen. It just kind of did. And it started out innocent.

Until it wasn’t.

Well, we didn’t know that we would be alone. And then the TV in the living room wasn’t working, so we moved to his bedroom, and then–

OK, sweetheart, I don’t need to know all the details. Just please, please tell me that you two used protection.

Yes, of course.

Oh, good. Good, good, good, good, good, good.

How are you feeling now? Any regrets?

None.

No? Good. Good. And like I said, I’m glad it went well. And I don’t mean to rain on your parade, but… what about Holly? – So you want to get back together?

[sighs] I didn’t mean to blurt it out like that, but yeah. Yeah, I’ve had a lot of time to think about the things I said and did to you before I left for Paris, and I just feel so awful about it. And I’ve been dying to tell you all this, to tell you how much I regret the mean, stupid things I did.

[dramatic music] And, Tate, what I need you to know, most importantly, is that I really care about you. And I’m sorry. I’m really sorry.

Well, Brady, I just–mm.

Daddy!

Oh.

There she is. Hey, how you doing? Hey, happy Halloween… a little bit late.

[gasps]

[laughs]

Yay! Two Halloweens!

Yeah. Oh, before you blame me, the candy is from Grandma Marlena.

Oh.

Raisins? both: Yep.

That’s Grammy Mar Mar for you.

But, sweetie, sweetie, I– I hid the good stuff underneath. You have to go dig for the gold.

[gasps]

[soft music] Yes!

[laughter]

How’s your day off from school, baby?

Great, I just made a special lunch for mommy. Ooh, maybe you can join us. Please? Pretty please?

Mm, well, if it’s OK with your mommy.

Please?

[laughs] Of course.

Yes!

Yes.

Yes.

Then my answer is yes.

[laughter] I’m staying for lunch.

You think I’m afraid to pull the trigger? Not at all. God knows I’ve done it before, quite recently. Actually, turns out, I still have a killer instinct when it comes to protecting my family.

Right. But forget about your own brother, ’cause you just want Father’s estate all to yourself.

Our father left it to me. Your claim came out of nowhere, never pass muster in a court of law. So if you persist in challenging my transfer of assets to Kristin, preventing my wife from being cured of her paralysis, word to the wise: you have a death wish.

[tense music]

How the hell are you and Philip a package deal? What are you up to, Vivian?

[scoffs] I’m up to being a good mother, helping Philip claim his Kiriakis birthright.

Oh, yeah, in exchange for a cut of the proceeds?

Oh, please. Mothers don’t do that. They just want love and respect.

[laughs] You know, save it. Because I don’t know what this convoluted scheme that you have sucked my son into, but it’s over now.

What the hell are you doing?

I’m calling the police.

I told you Tate and Holly broke up.

Yes, you did. But you also told me that you may have helped that along, right?

Yeah, in a way. But I didn’t twist her arm to make her do the stupid things that she did. And Holly wasn’t even in school yesterday, so she’s probably still in Paris. With any luck, she’ll stay there.

And what if she doesn’t?

[light music]

What’s with all these questions? I thought you wanted me to go for it.

I did. I did. And I am really glad that things are going so well with you and Tate right now.

But you’re jumping in with both feet.

So just protect your heart, OK?

Well, I really appreciate you coming here and for, you know, what you said before.

Well, I meant every word.

[dramatic music]

So how did things go in Paris?

Paris? Oh. It’s actually kind of crazy, but I forgave my mom, so…

Wow. Wow, that is really great. I’m so happy for you, Holly.

Thanks. I also came back and I forgave Eric too. We had a long talk, and he was the one who told me what really happened with Sarah, that your dad was innocent. So I’m really glad he’s free, Tate.

Are you sure?

Yes. Yes, I am.

See, the truth is, well, you know, I idolized Eric growing up, so when I found out he was the drunk driver who killed my dad, I just–

[sighs] I totally lost it. And then I guess I transferred some of that anger onto you and your dad, as you also know.

I think I convinced myself that if your dad was punished for what I thought he did that– I don’t know, that it might right the wrong of my father’s death.

But I know using our relationship to try to get dirt on your dad, it was an awful thing to do. And I’m really sorry for how I hurt you.

You know, the ironic thing is, when I came over here and I lied and said that I wanted to work things out, well, it wasn’t a total lie, because I now know that deep down, I really did. And I still do, if it’s not too late.

Thank you for staying. I know it means a lot to Rachel.

Well, it means a lot to me too.

Mm, well, I’m glad. But I cannot vouch for the menu.

[laughs]

Yeah, well, it’s all right. I’ve had my fair share of mud pies, and the look on her face is worth it.

Yeah.

And I’m sorry, I’m not gonna make a habit of making these unannounced visits, but, Kristen, I was hoping that we could discuss the visitation schedule.

Yeah. Yeah, of course. Of course.

I hope you’re hungry.

Ooh!

I made spooky handwiches.

Oh, my.

[laughs] OK, they’re sandwiches cut to look– look like spooky Halloween fingers and…

Ah!

Served with the terrifying tombstone cookies.

[coughs]

It’s the theme.

Wow. Wow.

Mm. Yeah, someone has been watching the cooking channel.

[soft music]

Should I eat the finger here?

Mmm.

Mmm.

[as Count Dracula] That is so delicious. I love it.

I knew you would like them.

Mmm.

Mommy showed me a picture of your new car. When can we go for a ride in it?

You want to go for a ride in my new car? That’s fine with me. Yeah, where do you want to go?

I don’t care, as long as I’m with you.

Come–come here. I need a hug for that. Thank you, sweetie.

[chuckles] And wherever we go, maybe Mommy could come with us too?

You are certainly not calling the police.

[scoffs] Fine. I’ll use my own.

[tense music]

All–all right. I’ll cut you in.

What’s that?

I think I can find a way to make it beneficial for both of us.

Oh. OK, I’m listening.

Look, there’s plenty of money around Titan, so that money could be used to finance the soap opera you’re producing. I mean, don’t you want the best for your show, for Philip, for your audience? And don’t you want your due, Kate?

Man, so much for turning over a new leaf for your wife and daughter.

My family are everything to me. What I care about is being a good husband and father. That’s why I’m doing all this.

You won’t be much of anything in prison.

At least Sarah will be cured.

You don’t know that. You have no idea what kind of snake oil Dr. Rolf is peddling.

I know he’s worked miracles before. And I’m sorry, but if it’s the choice between Sarah’s future and yours, brother, well, that’s a no-brainer. Sarah deserves better. She deserves to be healthy and whole.

And if it wasn’t for your mother, she would be.

And yeah, I feel a little bad for Sarah, but you know who I don’t feel bad for? You. You don’t deserve my father’s inheritance, and you don’t deserve Sarah. You’re not a Kiriakis man. You’re a low-life loser, and I will never consider you a real brother, so… you want to go to prison, abandon your wife and daughter, go ahead. Take your best shot.

[tense music]

[gun clicks]

[sighs]

[gun clicking]

No bullets. Damn you, Philip!

You know, Maggie always hated having a loaded gun in the house, was always nagging Dad about it. But he didn’t always listen to her. So I played the odds, took the risk.

[exhales sharply] That’s a Kiriakis man, the man who should be running Titan.

In other words, you haven’t changed your mind about this lawsuit.

Never.

Well, then I guess your mother is your last hope. If she can’t change your mind, you really are a dead man.

Vivian, I’m not going to let you rope me into one of your ridiculous schemes again. And I’m certainly not going to let Philip be either.

[laughs] I’m afraid it’s too late.

Oh, really?

Mm-hmm.

Philip is Victor’s son. What exactly do you bring to the table?

Oh, plenty. I provided Philip the ammunition he needed to regain his legacy.

Ah, so what kind of ammunition is that?

Oh, a letter from Victor stating that his intention was to leave the estate to Philip.

Where would you get a letter like that?

[chuckles] Of course, unless you forged it, Vivian.

Oh, you are so clever.

Honey, you– you want Mom to come along on our daddy-daughter days?

Why not? Aren’t you having fun?

Yeah, of course I am.

And, Mom, are you having fun?

Yes, I am.

Then why don’t we just keep having fun?

[sighs] Baby, I mean, I thought you were OK with– with this. I mean, it’s kind of great. You get to live in this big house with Mommy, and then you get to have fun with me on our daddy-daughter dates.

[dramatic music]

But can’t I like both? Don’t you want to be a happy family with us again, Daddy?

[sighs]

Holly… Sophia and I–

Tate, it’s OK. I know you guys are friends. I also know she hates my guts, which, honestly, I don’t blame her for. And look, I’m not asking you to ditch her or anything. I just hope you don’t feel the same way about me.

No, I don’t. Just–

Tate, you don’t have to say anything right now. I just unloaded a bunch of stuff on you, so… I think you should just take the time to process it all. But could you at least think about forgiving me and maybe starting over?

I had a long talk with Tate, and he and Holly broke up because she was a total bitch to him when his father was arrested.

Yeah, you told me that.

But now that we know that Tate’s dad is innocent, there’s always a chance that she could come crawling back to him.

That is a possibility.

I–I told Tate that I wasn’t gonna be someone’s consolation prize and if he wasn’t ready to move on from Holly, then I didn’t want to be with him.

OK, good for you.

And the good news is, he promised me that he and Holly are over. And what makes me even more confident that he’s not going back to her, they never slept together.

Oh, no?

Mm-hmm, definitely not. So you see, I’m close to Tate now in a way that she never was and never will be.

[light music]

Holly, I’m really glad that you were able to fix things with your mom. And I’m glad you’re home. I really missed you.

[dramatic music] And–

And what?

I will think about everything that you said.

Thank you.

I should probably go, let you think. See you at school.

Rachel, sweetheart, we talked about this.

I know. I know. You love Daddy, and Daddy loves you, and you both love me.

Yes, and we love you more than anything in the– in the world. Your mommy and I, we care about each other. We just don’t want to go back to the hard times, the times we– we had fights. And you told me that scared you. So I don’t want to do that anymore. I like–I just want to have days like this where we have fun, you know? You understand that, right?

I guess.

Well, thank you for the spookiest Halloween lunch that I’ve ever had. I love you.

I love you, Daddy.

Come here, kid. OK. And I will– hey, I will see you soon. And I will take you for a good ride in my fancy new car. OK?

OK.

All right. Bye, sweetie.

Bye, Daddy.

And, Kristin?

Yeah.

About Sarah.

Don’t worry about it. She’s gonna be fine.

[sighs]

My mother? What are you talking about? She doesn’t even know I’m in town.

Oh, she does now.

What?

I just had a nice little chat with her, brought her up to speed. Yeah, she’s looking for you now. I told her you were staying at the Salem Inn.

You son of a bitch! This isn’t over!

Keep in mind, Kate, if you implicate me in a crime, you implicate Philip.

[scoffs] Damn you, Vivian.

Oh, come on, Kate. You’re not gonna ruin this for your precious Philip, are you? You know he’ll never forgive you.

Come back to the dark side, Kate. Come on.

[tense music]

[scoffs]

[sighs] So… you listened to Maggie about the bullets. Well… I’m sure she would be pleased to know that.

[grunts] And of course you don’t want me to kill Philip. I hope to hell I don’t have to. So Kate had better persuade him to lay off, or I’ll have no choice.

Vivian, you need to get out of sight. My mother knows I’m in town. OK, if she finds you–

She’s already found me.

What?

Yes. And–

Does she know that we’re working together? I had to admit that I forged the letter from Victor.

Oh, my God.

[sighs] Please tell me she thinks I’m an innocent victim in all this, that she has no idea I’ve known about the forgery from the beginning.

I’m going to tell you that exactly. She has no idea.

[sighing]

[sighs] Philip, what have you got yourself into now?

[sighs]

I wish Daddy didn’t have to go.

Yeah, me too. Hmm.

Then why’d you let him?

Oh, sweetheart, I mean, we’ve talked about this. You know, grown-ups, grown-up relationships, you know, can be complicated.

I know, but didn’t you like it better when you lived with Daddy?

[dramatic music]

I did. I definitely did.

[laughs] And you know what? Maybe–maybe someday we’ll live together again and be the family that you want us to be.

Please, make it happen. Please, Mommy?

[sighs] Mm.

[lock clicking]

[sighs] Hey, Tater tot, I got some spooky tombstone cookies that your sister made for you.

Cool.

You all right?

Holly was just here.

OK. And?

She just got back from Paris. She came over here to apologize, and she wants to get back together.

I see. From your demeanor, I’m thinking that that’s not a good thing?

[sighs] Something happened, Dad, something that she doesn’t know about.

Thanks for listening, Ms. Vitali. My mom means well, but I can’t talk to her like this. In fact, she would probably kill me if I confided in her about last night.

[chuckling] Oh. Well, you know, I never had a daughter to share these things with, so thank you for trusting me with it. And now I really do need to get back to work.

OK, well, I will see you later for the dinner shift.

OK, Sophia. You enjoy your day off from school, OK?

Thank you.

[chuckles]

[tense music]

Holly. I didn’t know you were back.

How could you? I just got home yesterday.

Oh, I see. OK. I thought maybe– OK, anyway, the point is, you’re back.

Holly, there’s something you should know.
