[ Ominous music playing]
Steffy: An intruder. She broke into my home. I– I grabbed a knife in self-defense, and when she lunged at me, I– I stabbed her. I think she could be dead. Could you please hurry?
Hope: Oh, there it is.
Finn: Oh, hey. What are you doing?
Hope: I just– I was in the pharmacy. I realized I left my cell phone. It was on silent. Sorry for interrupting again.
Finn: No, you’re not I’m just– I’m trying to wrap up some things and get home to my wife.
Hope: Oh. Is there something else going on?
Finn: I’m worried about steffy.
Deacon: Great choice. Victoria, we’re gonna have a lemon meringue here, a chocolate mousse here. Okay? Thanks. All right, tell me, liam, that this is not the best pizza that you’ve ever had.
Liam: It’s pretty close.
Deacon: Pretty close? Where have you ever had pizza this good?
Liam: Puglia, italy. Hope and my honeymoon. Little pizzeria right outside the hotel.
Deacon: Italy does not count. Stateside, best pizza?
Liam: Okay, stateside?
Deacon: Mm-hmm
Liam: Stateside. You know what else I like?
Deacon: Probably a tofu cannoli.
Liam: Besides the tofu cannoli and the pizza, I like that I don’t have to order takeout ’cause sheila’s not working.
Deacon: All right, I think we’ve established that sheila’s not your favorite person.
Liam: I don’t think she’s anybody’s favorite person, but for one obvious exception.
Deacon: Me.
Liam: Yeah, you. Why you want anything to do with that woman is totally–
Deacon: Okay, can we not do this again?
Liam: Look, you’re concerned and I’m concerned and for good reason. Not only has she been disappearing lately, but you don’t know where she is right now.
Deacon: She’ll turn up.
Liam: It’s not– it’s not whether she’ll turn up that concerns me. It’s where.
Deacon: You’re afraid she’s stalking finn and steffy.
Liam: Yeah, that– that’s exactly what I’m afraid of, and if that’s true, god knows what could happen.
Finn: I– I spoke to steffy after you left. I guess there’s a windstorm out there. All the power’s out at the house.
Hope: Oh.
Liam: Thankfully, the kids aren’t there.
Hope: Well, steffy’s capable. I’m sure she’s okay.
Finn: Yeah, I’m sure she is, but I’ll feel better when I see her for myself.
Hope: It’s sweet that you’re concerned.
Finn: Of course. Steffy’s everything to me.
Medic 1: She’s got a pulse but it’s faint. Barely breathing.
Medic 2: Stab wound. Upper extremity. She’s still bleeding. Apply more pressure.
Medic 1: Keep packing that wound.
Cop 1: What have we got?
Medic 1: Female, mid-50s. Stab wound.
Cop 2: This where you found her?
Medic 1: Yeah.
Cop 1: Ma’am, this your house?
Steffy: Yes. I’m steffy forrester. She broke into my home. She threatened me and I acted in self-defense.
Cop 1: You know this woman?
Steffy: Yes. Her name is sheila. Sheila carter. When enamel is gone, you cannot get it back.
Deacon: You know, if you could just cut sheila a little bit of slack.
Liam: What, I don’t even know what that means. What are you asking me to do?
Deacon: It means not thinking everything she does is nefarious.
Liam: Deacon, you– by your own admission, she’s been sneaking out going on these mysterious outings and not telling you where she’s been or what– like if that’s not a red flag, what is?
Deacon: But see, it’s a red flag for you ’cause you think everything she does is, you know, criminal.
Liam: Yeah. Because she’s given me good reason to. And she’s given steffy good reason to as well.
Deacon: All right, if you’re about to remind me what happened in the alley behind the restaurant–
Liam: Oh, well, I wasn’t going to, but let me remind you what happened in the alley behind the restaurant. Sheila shot finn. And then she turned the gun on steffy and she shot steffy. And she left her for dead. And steffy’s just supposed to like what? Embrace that and allow sheila back into her life? You know we’re talking about my daughter too here, right? Kelly almost grew up without a mother. I’m just supposed to forgive and forget that. I can’t do it.
Deacon: Kelly doesn’t know anything about that.
Liam: Yes. Yes, and hopefully she’ll never have to because we’re gonna get sheila out of our lives once and for all.
Deacon: I don’t think sheila’s going anywhere.
Liam: I’m pretty sure you don’t want her to.
Deacon: Is that so hard to understand, given the way I feel about her?
Liam: No. What’s hard to understand is that you would choose those feelings for sheila over the relationship you have with your daughter.
Deacon: I’m not doing that.
Liam: Really? You’re not doing that? Have you talked to hope lately? Because I bet you she kinda feels like you are.
Deacon: I don’t want to hurt my daughter. That’s the last thing I want to do, but I–
Liam: I know. I know what’s going on. You’re stuck. You’re stuck with sheila. You can’t pry yourself away from her no matter what it’s doing to your relationship.
Deacon: That’s not true. That’s not true at all. Listen, I do not want to lose my connection with my daughter or my grandkids. I love all of them.
Liam: I know you do. The problem is loving sheila, too.
Hope: Oof, no wonder you’re eager to get home.
Finn: Yeah. I hate thinking of her alone ’cause the winds howling outside it’s dark.
Hope: Well, hopefully the power will be restored soon.
Finn: And I’d leave right now, but I’m waiting on some important test results for my patients.
Hope: Hm. How long does something like that take?
Finn: Well, last I spoke to the lab, they said within the next 15 minutes. That was a half an hour ago.
Hope: Well, then, hopefully, they will be here any minute.
Finn: Are you– are you always relentlessly this optimistic?
Hope: Hm. It’s gross, right?
Finn: No, it’s anything but. It’s– it’s refreshing.
Hope: Well, you know what else is refreshing? We just had a conversation, and we did not talk about sheila once.
Finn: Yeah. I’m sorry I brought it up to you when you were here earlier, I just–
Hope: No, don’t be. You’re worried about steffy and things deteriorating even further between the two of them.
Finn: It got physical and that scares me.
Hope: Well, yeah. Knowing what sheila’s capable of. I mean, I know she’s your birth mom, but…
Finn: No, but ever since we found out she is, steffy’s had to put up with so much, and I love that she continues to fight for us, but hasn’t just thrown her hands in the air and called it quits.
Hope: She never would. She loves you too much.
Finn: I love her. And I feel what she feels. Right now, I feel like my wife needs me.
Medic 2: Pupils are fixed, and dilated.
Cop 1: So, you knew the intruder? She wasn’t a stranger?
Steffy: No, her name is sheila carter. She has a long list of crimes, especially against me and my family.
Medic 1: Patient is asystole on the monitor.
Medic 2: She’s bled out. There’s nothing more we can do.
Steffy: Wait, did you say she’s not gonna make it?
Medic 1: Afraid not, ma’am.
Steffy: What?
Medic 2: Time of death, 8:07.
Steffy: Death? Oh, my god. Sheila’s dead. I know what it’s like
Liam: Sheila carter. How does someone love… sheila carter?
Deacon: I know. One of life’s mysteries, huh?
Liam: Yeah, to me, to everyone, especially hope.
Deacon: You know, I tried to explain it to her. H– how do you explain something to somebody when you don’t really understand it yourself?
Liam: You don’t think that tells you something?
Deacon: Tells me it’s complicated. I know how everybody sees her, you know, like some kind of leper to be avoided.
Liam: Whoa. You don’t see her that way?
Deacon: You know, sometimes I wish I did because it’d be a hell of a lot easier. Especially with my relationship with my daughter. You know, I’ve tried to distance myself from her. I have. It’s like every single time I do, I just– I get drawn back in.
Liam: Well, stop that. What’s– what is it? What’s drawing you back in then?
Deacon: Our similarities for one thing. You know, two loners, screw-ups, criminals. Two people trying to scratch some kind of respectability out of life. Trying to just build something together that’s good and decent and normal despite our checkered past.
Liam: Hey, deacon. You– you got to give yourself more credit. You’re painting this picture like you and sheila are the same. You’re not the same. You can’t compare your petty screw-ups to her heinous, heinous crimes.
Deacon: Well, you got that right. She plays in a league by herself, that’s for sure. I don’t know, man, we– we understand each other. You know, we– we accept each other, flaws and all.
Liam: Maybe that would make sense if you didn’t have anybody else in your life who cared about you. But that’s not true. Hope cares about you. She cares about you deeply, and for you to– to let this thing with sheila jeopardize that relationship more than it already has, you– you’re not… you gotta play it smart. You kick sheila to the curb and you save your relationship with your daughter because you know it and I know it. The only way any of us are gonna have any peace ever again is if sheila is out of our lives once and for all.
Finn: Well, the lab results look excellent. It’s exactly what we hoped for. Let’s put them back to the prior dosage and you can tell mr. Limbrecht the good news. Okay, thank you so much, max. Bye-bye.
Hope: You’re a good man, finn. Always taking care of other people.
Finn: Thanks.
Hope: Probably explains how you were able to open yourself up to sheila, crazy birth mom and all. Sorry, if that was overstepping.
Finn: No. My loyalty will always be with steffy. Not that I wish any ill will to sheila, just as long as she stays out of our lives.
Hope: Except that steffy did say that she would only really feel safe if sheila was dead.
Finn: Listen, um, I need to get home, okay? And check on steffy. I’m sure she’s fine. She can take care of herself, but if she needs me, I want to be there for her.
[ Indistinct chatter ]
Cop 1: Got the paramedics’ statements. Coroner’s on his way to collect the body.
[ Camera shutter clicks ]
Steffy: Oh, my gosh, sheila’s dead. Oh, sheila’s dead. Oh, my god.
Cop 1: You said she broke in.
Steffy: Yes. You have to believe me. I acted in self-defense. Alice loves the scent of gain so much,
she wished there was a way to
make it last longer.
[ Breathing echoes ]
Cop 1: Let’s go through this again, make sure I have it right.
[ Steffy sighs ]
Steffy: Like I said, the power– the power went out, and I saw a shadow on the wall, and I turned around and– and sheila was there. I– I– I told her I told her to get out and she kept getting closer and closer to me, so I– I– I grabbed– I grabbed a knife. I mean, I was trying to protect myself. She lunged at me. I– I defended myself. I mean this woman has terrorized my family for years. She– she shot me and my husband not that long ago.
Cop 1: You’re saying the deceased tried to kill both of you?
Steffy: She shot her own son.
Cop 2: Wait, your husband’s this woman’s son?
Steffy: She’s his birth mother. She’s a horrible, evil person who should be in prison.
Cop 1: I think we’ll end it here for tonight.
Cop 2: Should we call someone for you?
Steffy: No, my husband will be here soon.
Cop 1: One more thing. Don’t leave town. I’m certain detectives from the department will follow up with further questions.
Liam: Thank you, guys, so much. It was great seeing you again.
Deacon: Okay. You know, there’s a place for a tip right down there.
Liam: All right. Let me make it up to you by giving you a bigger one. Sheila’s only gonna drag you down. She’s gonna force you to forfeit your future with hope and the kids, and that reason alone should make that woman dead to you.
Deacon: Liam, look, it’s not that I don’t hear you. I mean, maybe sheila should be out of my life, and maybe it doesn’t make sense that she isn’T. But I love her, man. And I’m gonna have a long, happy life with her.
Sheila: I’ve made mistakes. I’ve made terrible mistakes. But do I deserve to die? She wants your mother dead. Not behind bars, but dead!
Finn: Steffy? Steffy, I just saw the police driving away. Are you okay? What happened? Honey? Honey, what happened? Why were the police here? Sweetheart, what’s going on? Honey, talk to me. What happened?
Steffy: It was dark. Someone came in. Sheila. You– you stay away from me. You stay the hell away from me. I told you never come back here. Get out. Get out of my house! I’ll do it. I’ll do it! No!
[ Steffy gasps ] It was sheila.
Finn: It was– it was sheila? Steffy, where’s sheila now? Steffy? Steffy, where’s sheila?
