Hope: You heard your brother, Steffy. A lot has changed since you left town.
Steffy: Your attitude for one. What are you thinking hooking up with my brother in this office?
Hope: Steffy, like that’s never happened in here before? Come on. We’re just– we’re having a good time.
Steffy: Oh, my god. I already have to deal with Sheila, now I gotta deal with this. Okay. Well, I’m not running away from Sheila anymore. I won’t let that monster take me away from my family. Just like I won’t let you undermine my brother.
Taylor: Thomas has come too far to get tangled up with Hope like this.
Brooke: Just never should have started. When Hope brought Thomas back on her line, I knew it would lead to problems.
Taylor: Okay. T– t– [ Gasps ] Hi.
Thomas: Hey, Mom.
Taylor: I sure did miss you.
Thomas: I missed you too.
Taylor: I’m so sorry you had to hear that.
Thomas: That’s okay. No, I understand. And Brooke is a parent. She’s just looking after her daughter. But I don’t have to, uh, justify my feelings ’cause very much enjoying, savoring every single moment.
Brooke: With my daughter.
Thomas: Yeah.
Taylor: God, I wish I could support this thing you have with Hope, but I just– I just can’t. It’s not reciprocal, honey. Being with Hope is a mistake.
Deacon: Hey. What…
Sheila: I thought it needed a woman’s touch.
Deacon: What happened to my camping ladder? I’m kidding. I’m kidding. This looks fantastic. You did all this? Wow.
Sheila: Yeah. So, um, do you approve?
Deacon: Well, little partial to the nurses get up, but not a speck of bolognese on it.
Sheila: No, Li’s just lucky I was on my best behavior.
Deacon: And I want you to know that it’s not lost on me that you showed restraint. I mean, the woman put your face in a bowl of pasta and then just walked off.
Sheila: Well, I didn’t want to upset my handsome, incredibly, sexy boss. That I just happen to be secretly engaged to.
Taylor: Okay, just promise me that you will be smart about this, okay?
Thomas: I appreciate your concern, okay? But it’s not necessary. Look, I get it. Everybody has their own opinions about the situation and everyone wants to voice that. And that includes Steffy, actually. ‘Cause apparently, she gets home and just has to go immediately to Hope and, uh, give her a piece of her mind.
Hope: You won’t let me undermine Thomas. Believe me, that’s the last thing I would ever do to your brother. And I’m pretty sure that he would agree.
Steffy: You really have changed.
Hope: Because I’m living my life for myself now. Prioritizing my own wants and needs, not just doing what everyone expects me to do. I’m in control now. And sure, yes, I– I was in love and we both made mistakes, and that crashed and burned, but now I’m with Thomas. And he’s there for me. Is this for me?
Brooke: So, Steffy gets back from Europe and the first thing she does is march over to my daughter’s office and give her grief?
Taylor: Yeah and that’s my girl. She’s protecting her brother.
Brooke: She should be protecting her children. That’s why she went away in the first place.
Taylor: And right now, we’re talking about Hope and Thomas.
Ridge: Can we please just take a step back and let these guys deal with their own relationship? They’re grown-ups. There’s bigger things to worry about. Sheila’s on the loose and we can’t ignore that.
Taylor: And now, Deacon is involved with her.
Brooke: I can’t believe that he actually let himself be manipulated by her. How could he do that? What that would do to the family, to his daughter, and the danger it presents. And now she is working at Il Giardino. She’s living with Deacon.
Taylor: I’m sorry, Sheila Carter has a job?
Ridge: Okay. The important thing is we’ve gotta keep her away from everybody. Yes? Can we do that?
Thomas: Absolutely, we will.
Taylor: Yes, yes, yes. We will all be there for Steffy. And, um, we will catch up soon. And I can’t wait to see Douglas.
Ridge: What are you doing? You’re leaving?
Thomas: Yeah?
Taylor: Um, I have something I need to do.
Deacon: So, you haven’t told anyone about our engagement, have you?
Sheila: Uh-uh.
Deacon: No?
Sheila: It’s our secret.
Deacon: Not forever. It’s just that my relationship with Hope is hanging on by a thread. If she finds out that I asked you to marry me, that could be the thing that cuts it forever.
Steffy: You are using my brother.
Hope: We’re having fun.
Steffy: Fun? Like a game?
Hope: I’m not toying with your brother if that is what you are implying. He’s perfectly aware of what our situation is. We are on the same page. I mean, so much so that sometimes I feel like Thomas can read my mind. I felt that way ever since he first started working for me.
Steffy: He works with you, Hope.
Hope: On my line, under my direction, and he’s my lead designer and he’s there for me.
Steffy: Gives you whatever you want. Whatever you need. You’re abusing his feelings, Hope.
Hope: Okay. And you are just gonna twist this into whatever narrative that you want, right? It’s called transparency, Steffy. Thomas and I, we don’t hide things from each other. He knows all of me.
Steffy: Oh, my god. Thomas is falling for you. Can’t you see that? And you’re treating him like some kinda sex toy. He’s caught up in you and you’re just reveling in it.
Hope: Caught up in me? Like the same way my husband was caught up in you?
Steffy: There it is. Be straight with me. This little fling with Thomas is payback?
Hope: Payback?
Steffy: Against me because of Liam.
Hope: Oh, I hate to break it to you, Steffy, but you are not the center of the universe. This is not about you. Thomas and I, we share something special, something raw, something passionate. We light a fire in each other and it is not hurting anyone. So, now that you’ve said your piece, I don’t want to hear another word from you about this. I don’t need your judgment, Steffy. And your narrative is not mine ’cause I’m no longer that victim hanging in a gondola, watching you steal my life away from me. I’m in control of my life now and I’m figuring out who I am, and your brother is helping me. And I like it. Actually, I… I like it a lot.
Steffy: You may like what you have with Thomas, but I don’t believe that you are really over Liam or your marriage.
Hope: Well, I never said that. Watching my marriage fall to pieces has been excruciating. But after all the chances that I gave Liam, he couldn’t give me an ounce of forgiveness in return. And he didn’t think our relationship was worth saving. And if he feels that way, then well, I’m done begging. I’m sure everyone else thinks that I had something so perfect, but there is no such thing as perfect. And that has been quite the lesson to learn.
Steffy: Well, that hasn’t taught you anything if you can’t see what you’re doing to my brother.
Hope: Your brother keeps me present. And right now, we are just living in the moment.
Steffy: Are you really becoming your mother?
Hope: You know, I used to be terrified of that. Not so much anymore.
Brooke: I’m sorry. You have enough going on. You shouldn’t have to play referee for your family.
Ridge: No, that’s not it. I understand you’re concerned about Hope and Thomas. I– I get it.
Brooke: I know. We have bigger concerns. Sheila, Eric.
Ridge: My dad is dying. Every moment is precious. I– I can’t even say anything. I– I gotta pretend we have all the time in the world. Can’t say anything to Thomas. Can’t say anything to Steffy. You have no idea.
Brooke: I haven’t told Hope. I haven’t told Bridget or Rick. And they all need to know.
Ridge: But they don’t need to know. This is– no, they don’t. We are gonna– we are gonna do what my dad wants. Respect him. Not gonna say anything. No one’s gonna sit here and we’ll just wait. See how long he can come to the office.
Brooke: Eric wants to do this on his own, but you don’t have to. I’m here.
Ridge: I know. I love you for that.
Sheila: Are you getting cold feet about us?
Deacon: Not a chance.
Sheila: ‘Cause the word’s out. I mean, this little tirade that Steffy threw it– it’s just the beginning. It’s gonna get a lot worse, especially for you.
Deacon: I’m not the one getting cold-cocked and dunked in pasta sauce. You gotta keep that left up.
Sheila: Don’t do that. Don’t joke. I’m– I’m being serious. You could lose your relationship with Hope. She could cut you out of her life because of me, Deacon.
Deacon: Hope is probably one of the most forgiving people I’ve ever met. And she gave me a second chance. I gotta believe she’s gonna do it again.
Sheila: Well, you just keep that faith, all right?
[ Knock on the door ]
Sheila: Oh, God. That’s probably Hollis. I’m late for my shift.
Deacon: Uh, I think your boss might have a thing or two to say about that. Hollis, you know your timing absolu–
Taylor: Really? Really? I cannot even believe this. I– Deacon, you and Sheila? What is wrong with you? Have you lost your mind?
Hope: Look, I am glad that you and the kids are home, but if you are done grilling me now, I really have some work that I should do.
Steffy: Well, since you brought up the kids and me being home, there’s something else I can’t fathom. Your father and Sheila. What is Deacon thinking?
Hope: Finally, something we can agree on.
Steffy: Have you talked to him?
Hope: Not sure what good it did. He could see how upset I was. He knows that I will never accept it. And yet, he still defended Sheila.
Steffy: How could he be in a relationship with that animal? I mean, he says he loves her.
Hope: I don’t understand it. And it has me really, really worried.
Steffy: Well, if she tries to harm my family again, she’s gonna pay.
Hope: Well, don’t worry. You know, because my dad thinks that he can protect us all from Sheila.
Steffy: Sheila keeps saying that she wants to prove herself. And I’ve heard it ad nauseam. She just wants to be loved. And clearly, she thinks she can get it from your father. But I will always see Sheila as a murderous psychopath who is obsessed with my family.
Sheila: Taylor, welcome home.
Deacon: Uh, Hope told me that you went away for a while.
Taylor: Oh, yeah? Did she tell you why I went away? I’ll fill you in. Steffy had to take the kids away from their home, from the people that love them because of you.
Sheila: Well, I wish she hadn’t done that.
Taylor: Oh, do you? Well, I wish you would’ve been the one to leave L.A. and never come back.
Sheila: Taylor, you, Steffy, Finn, none of you need to be threatened by me. Okay. You know my history. I know you’re a psychiatrist–
Taylor: Okay, you are not making a very strong case for yourself here.
Sheila: I’m– I’m about to. All right? My heart has been so empty. And you– you know how I was always looking for security and acceptance, looking for that one thing that the people really need in their life. Love. And I– I finally found it.
Taylor: You found it with Deacon.
Sheila: Yes. I– I mean, we’ve both made mistakes and we’re not perfect, but you know what? Maybe we’re really good for each other.
Deacon: You know, it’s like I keep telling everyone. Taylor, I– I fundamentally believe that people can change. Look at me. I’ve changed. You help your clients do it every single day.
[ Taylor laughing ]
Taylor: About that–
Deacon: Sheila is not gonna be a threat to you or your family.
Taylor: Mm-hmm.
Deacon: She’s– she’s a different person when she’s with me.
Sheila: You know, it wasn’t that long ago that we had a– a nice relationship and you even invited me over for Christmas Eve. I– you saved me, Taylor. I– I know that we had a bond.
Taylor: Oh, yeah. And then you pulled a gun on my daughter and you shot her and left her for dead. And Finn too. It kinda breaks a bond, Sheila. Be careful, Deacon. I believed in her, too. You know, Steffy came home because she refuses to have you dictate her life anymore and I’m so proud of her for that, but I don’t want her to regret that decision. Stay away from my family, from Steffy, Finn, my grandkids. Don’t go near them again. I know who you are at your core. I see you. You are unhealed at the most fundamental levels of human condition and you refuse to see it. You refuse to get help. And that doesn’t merit redemption. Only justice. And I believe that day will come. A day of– of reckoning, if you will. And it will come and you will pay.
Ridge: Huh.
Brooke: I hate that you have to go through this. So much concern for your daughter, your father.
Ridge: It’s not– we’re supposed to lose our parents, right? I mean, that’s– that’s how it is. I mean, my mom has been gone for years.
[ Brooke laughing ]
Brooke: Stephanie will never be gone.
Ridge: Yeah, I know.
[ Brooke laughing ]
Ridge: But she is gone. Your mom’s gone. And it’s part of life. It’s– it’s what it’s supposed to be. We try to prepare ourselves and accept it, but with my dad, he’s– he’s everything to me. He’s made me who I am. And I’m just… not ready.
Brooke: I know. I’m sorry. But just know that I am here for you and you can lean on me. You can find strength in me. I’ll be there for you. Really. I can help you through this– this time with your father. And just, we’ll do it, you know. We’ll do it the way we always have. With each other.
