Finn: I was hoping that’d put a smile on your face. That’s better.
Steffy: You always make me happy. You’re like my little bit of sanity when the world doesn’t make sense. Brooke and deacon, like, what? What is going on?
Finn: I know.
Steffy: This is going to kill my father. Not only were they kissing, deacon spent the night. He slept in my dad’s bed. What was brooke thinking? I don’t understand.
Taylor: I’ve been asking myself that same question all night.
Finn: You didn’t sleep well?
Taylor: I kept thinking about what steffy and thomas told me. And it’s like, I don’t understand. What possessed brooke to turn to deacon and betray your father?
Ridge: I’m worried about you.
Brooke: Don’t be. I’m fine.
Ridge: You’re not fine. Keep beating yourself up over something that happened on new year’s eve. Hey. You made a mistake.
Brooke: Yeah, I did.
Ridge: We all make mistakes. Uh, you fell off the wagon but now you’re back on it. Give yourself some credit.
Brooke: I’m sorry.
Ridge: You don’t have to apologize to me for anything.
Brooke: Yeah, I do. You deserve better than the woman I was that night.
Ridge: Can you help me with this? Can you please convince your mother to stop doing this to herself?
Brooke: I–I just don’t understand. I still don’t understand it. Why I made the choices that I made that night.
Sheila: I’m a little hurt,
deacon, that you didn’t tell
me yourself. You and brooke,
drinking buddies. Wow.
Who would have imagined that?
[ Knocking on door ]
Sheila: Oh! He lives.
Deacon: Sorry to disappoint you.
Sheila: Actually, I’M… I’m oddly pleased to see you here. And all in one piece I’m assuming. Ridge left all of your body parts intact?
Deacon: I’d drop the trust-maker so fast he wouldn’t know what hit him.
[ Sheila laughing ]
Sheila: I would pay to see that but I’m guessing that you didn’t even come close. So, what happened when ridge came gunning for you anyway?
Deacon: Ridge, what a pompous ass.
Sheila: Well, what did he say?
Deacon: Oh, he just demanded I do what I do best and leave. You know, hit the road, abandon my daughter.
Sheila: Well, I can’t help but notice but, hm, you are still here.
Deacon: Yeah, I don’t take orders from ridge forrester.
Sheila: You know what? That would be stupid of him, to think that he could intimidate you anyway. You’re nowhere close to being prepared to leave this happy little dream of yours, where you get to spend a happy life with your daughter and grandkids. And– oh. Hm… let’s not forget the main motivator. Brooke.
Ridge: I wish you could see yourself the way that I see you. This–this strong, capable, amazing woman. You are loved by– by me, by your daughter. And hey, you made a mistake. Are you perfect? You– you’re pretty close but no, you’re not perfect. We all make mistakes. We all fall down. That doesn’t matter. It’s the getting up that makes a difference. And you do always get up with grace and with dignity. You said it to me so many times, “there’s nothing we can’t get through if we’re together.” Right?
Brooke: I wish I could believe that, ridge.
Finn: I’m still pretty new to all the family dynamics but I have to admit, I’m pretty shocked.
Steffy: Me too. Though I shouldn’t be considering brooke’s history of scandals, especially with deacon. Thank god douglas saw. Or we–we would have never have known. Brooke was trying to conceal it. She even told douglas not to tell anyone about what he saw.
Taylor: What?
Steffy: Yeah.
Taylor: Are you serious?
Steffy: Mm-hm.
Taylor: This situation is so concerning on so many levels for douglas, for ridge… brooke, god, this pattern of behavior never seems to end.
Steffy: I have no sympathy for brooke. All she does is hurt dad. He needs to be free of her. Dad needs to be with you, and the forrester family. This is where he belongs. It’s true.
Find your rhythm.
Sheila: I got to admit, I– I really didn’t think you stood a chance in hell with brooke.
Deacon: And now you do.
Sheila: Well… gotta admit. You might just pull this off.
Deacon: Thanks for that vote of semi-confidence.
Sheila: Well, the one thing that I learned is that it could be dangerous to underestimate you. Gotta respect that.
Deacon: Takes one to know one.
Sheila: So, what’s your plan?
Deacon: I don’t have a plan. I don’t believe in ’em. In my experience, you’re just settin’ yourself up for disappointment. Kind of like to shoot from the hip, you know? Just go with flow.
Sheila: Take advantage of every opportunity.
Deacon: Oh, and you don’t?
Sheila: Yeah, I do. It’s just that you seem to be a whole lot better at it than me. I mean, you’ve made inroads with hope and brooke and I am still on the outside looking in when it comes to my son.
Deacon: Yeah, but sheila, come on. I mean, you’ve had some serious disadvantages. I’m not needling you but not the least of which– you shot finn’s mother-in-law. And now? Look, hang in there, just stay the course. You always knew that this was going to take time.
Sheila: Yeah, it still doesn’t mean I’m not all jealous of you. And there you were spending new year’s eve throwing back drinks with brooke.
Sheila: Come on, tell me the truth. You don’t have even the smallest desire to go to ridge with this explosive information that could destroy brooke’s marriage?
Ridge: Hang on one second. Are you questioning my commitment to you and our family and our marriage?
Brooke: What if I’m not the woman that you think I am?
Ridge: I know exactly who you are. You make mistakes. You know why? Because you’re not perfect. I just said that. I’m glad you’re not because if you were, you wouldn’t need me.
Brooke: I will always need you.
Ridge: Yeah?
[ Phone dinging ] Well, that’s good because I’m not going anywhere, ever. Okay, I lied.
Brooke: About?
Ridge: About not going anywhere, ever. I got to go.
Brooke: Oh?
Ridge: You wanna come with me?
Brooke: No, not today.
Ridge: Call me if you need me and you take care of her.
[ Brooke sighing ]
Brooke: God! Ugh, you know, keeping the secret is– is killing me. I–I really don’t think I can do it anymore.
Hope: What are you saying?
Brooke: I have to tell ridge the truth.
Taylor: I’m worried about douglas. I feel horrible for ridge. Is there any way we could be wrong about this?
Steffy: Cameras do not lie. We cannot let brooke and deacon play dad for a fool, having an affair in his house.
Taylor: It’s terrible.
Steffy: We have to protect him. Dad needs to know what is going on right underneath his nose.
Taylor: You know, I wanted to sleep on it, make sure that we weren’t jumping to conclusions… but it’s all right there. Deacon went back to brooke’s and didn’t leave until morning.
Steffy: Dad deserves to know.
Taylor: He does. We won’t let brooke get away with this.
Sheila: Drinking with brooke gives you powerful ammunition. Ridge would never have that. I mean, the dreaded deacon and his precious logan, I don’t think so. Oh, come on, deacon. Admit it. Don’t– don’t you want him out of the picture for good?
Deacon: Look, it’s not what brooke wants, all right? No matter what you and i think about ridge, she loves the guy. I’d never take a wrecking ball to her marriage.
Sheila: Oh, you’re serious.
Deacon: I mean, believe me, I wouldn’t mind landing a couple of shots to that massive ego. I mean, if anybody deserves to be taken down a peg or 10, it’s ridge forrester. And it would be pretty damn sweet if I was the one to do it.
Sheila: Hm, a little bit of poetic justice, huh.
Deacon: You know, you should have heard him. You know, the way, the way that he was just talking down to me, just being condescending. Just so sure of his superiority. So arrogant. Telling me that brooke’s out of my league. You know, that I’d never have her. If he only knew.
Sheila: If ridge only knew? What?
[ Sheila laughing ]
Brooke: I really thought I could keep this secret but it’s tearing me apart. I mean, ridge and I pride ourselves on being honest with each other, no matter how painful.
Hope: So, you’re really going to tell ridge all of it?
[ Brooke sighing ]
Brooke: Yes. I mean, what choice do I have? Drinking with deacon and the kiss. Spending the night together? He needs to know, hope. He deserves to know. Especially since he’s been so loving and so supportive. And all because he thinks I’m anxious that I was drinking alone but it’s more than that. And every time he encourages me, it just makes me feel… just more guilty.
Hope: Well, you know how I feel about honesty. So, I support your decision and I think it’s a really brave thing to do. We all know how ridge hates deacon, but more importantly, he loves you. So, if–if I were a betting person, I would bet that you will be able to make ridge understand and that he will forgive.
Steffy: We have to tell dad right away. I mean, the longer we wait, the bigger the chance brooke could figure out that we’re on to something and she can make some crazy excuse that dad will accept. I mean, this could be it, mom. This could be the thing that wakes dad up.
Taylor: I’m not even thinking about that. I have no desire to break up brooke’s marriage.
Steffy: You don’t have to do that. Brooke’s doing that all on her own.
Taylor: You’re right. You know, it’s funny. I–I thought maybe brooke and I could, you know, forget about the past and try to forge some kind of friendship, but nope. There she is, back to her old patterns of infidelity and lies.
Steffy: Mom, he has to know.
Taylor: He will. I’ll be the one to tell him.
Steffy: Are you sure? I mean, I can, I don’t mind doing it.
Taylor: Yeah. Don’t you think he needs to hear it from me?
Steffy: Yeah. I know it’s going to be hard for dad to hear about brooke’s betrayal, but… this could be a wonderful new chapter for our family. It really could be. Nicorette knows, quitting smoking is freaking hard.
Deacon: Morning, sunshine.
[ Door closing ]
Steffy: Hello, brooke.
Brooke: If you’re looking for your father, he left for the office.
Steffy: No, actually, I’m–I’m here to talk to you.
Brooke: Oh. Well, have a seat.
Steffy: I’m good standing.
Brooke: What would you like to talk to me about?
Steffy: My father. What an amazing man he is.
Brooke: He most certainly is.
Steffy: You, of all people should know that, I mean, you spent a lot of time together. So much history. I guess you could say it was destiny. You’re a very lucky woman.
Brooke: Yes. Yes, I am.
Steffy: Mm. And dad has been through so much. Especially with you. He stood by you, he defended you for all your scandals and betrayals.
Brooke: I’m sorry?
Steffy: Yeah, that’s exactly what you say. So funny. And then my dad forgives you and he takes you back. That’s what I– I meant by, “lucky,” because not a lot of men would hang in there.
Brooke: All right, if your intention was to come here and insult me, you’ve succeeded.
Steffy: What can I say? I try to be supportive for my father–
Brooke: Where is this coming from, steffy?
Steffy: I want someone in my father’s life who is true, who is loving, who is committed to him and only him. And that will never be you, brooke.
Ridge: Knock, knock.
Taylor: Hi.
Ridge: Hi.
Taylor: Hi. The kids are with amelia, steffy just stepped out. Thanks for coming so quickly.
Ridge: Sure, sounds urgent so here I am. Talk to me.
Taylor: God, I thought this is going to be easier.
Ridge: What? What–what are we doing?
Taylor: You know I always have your best interest at heart, right?
Ridge: Sure. Never questioned.
Taylor: Okay, good. And I wouldn’t be a friend if I–if I kept this from you, so…
Ridge: Kept what from me? What are you telling me?
Taylor: Um…
Ridge: Okay, let’s make that easy for you. The kids are okay?
Taylor: Yes! I– I should have said that.
Ridge: Perfect. The kids are fine. I can handle anything else. Please.
Taylor: That’s true. That’s true. Your loyalty to brooke has always been a thing of wonder, ridge. You know, you have stood by her through so many things that most men would–
Ridge: I’m gonna stop you right there. Why are we talking about brooke?
Taylor: Because… because your loyalty is misplaced.
Ridge: Why does everybody think they need to criticize my wife? Why?
Taylor: I don’t want to be in a position to criticize your wife but I am because of her actions.
Ridge: Her actions? What are you implying?
Taylor: I’m not implying anything. God, I’m usually better at this. Okay, um… I wish I didn’t have this information that I’m about to tell you because I know how much pain it’s going to cause you. But it’s about your wife and what she did on new year’s eve.
