THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!
You know, Gabi, I could have an officer here in two minutes, frothing at the mouth, to arrest you for assaulting Salem’s District Attorney.
Well, I ought to leave a mark then, don’t you think?
Don’t you dare.
Hey, get your hands off her! Now!
JJ?
[dramatic music]
And then when I said yes, everyone in the hospital started clapping. Yeah, it was like something from out of a movie. No, no, no. Don’t you start crying. I just did my makeup.
[chuckles] Right. OK, well, I bet– I better let you go then. OK. I miss you, and I love you, Sis. Tell Mom I said hi too.
[phone beeps]
Was that Talia?
Yes, I was giving her all the details on your beautiful proposal. And I sent her a picture of the ring, and she loved it, as do I.
Well, I’m glad. Although I can’t actually take credit for it because I didn’t– I didn’t really pick it out.
Yeah, but the fact that it’s a family heirloom, that makes it even more special.
[tender music]
Whoa. What’s this? Just a little something I got you. You know, my handsome fiancé. I mean, I didn’t pick it, but it’s just as special.
Oh, yeah?
Well, Paulina, what can I get for you today?
Oh, well, Rafe and Jada, they’re joining me for lunch, so I’ll just wait till they get here to order, but in the meantime, oh, let’s start with a basket of mozzarella sticks. I’m treating myself since I just got a clean bill of health from my doctor.
Oh, my God, that’s great news.
Ooh, yes, it is. And I am beyond relieved, as you can imagine, you know, given all the medical issues that I’ve been dealing with not so long ago. But they checked everything, from my heart to my brain, and it looks like I’ll be sticking around for a while.
Well, I am very happy to hear that.
[laughs] Whew. Oh.
[laughs] Well, if it isn’t my beautiful daughter, Chanel. Come give– give your Mama a hug.
[tense music]
Oh, did I tell you I met Joy? She seems pretty cool.
Yeah. Yeah, Joy is super nice. I really like her.
I think I kind of freaked her out a little bit though.
What? What happened?
I don’t know. I– I said something like her being a thorn in your side, and her reaction was like I meant it in real life. Obviously, I was talking about her character, your character on the show.
Right, on the show.
Hmm.
I wonder why she thought you meant in real life.
I don’t know. Maybe she thought you might mix up real life with make-believe, kind of like your man Johnny did.
Ooh. Yeah, that’s probably it. And considering that I am not inclined to do so, she can go after my man all she wants.
On the show.
Right. On the show.
Hey, Johnny. I just met Alex. I heard you just directed the first big love scene between him and Chanel. Or Faith and Arrow, that is.
Yeah.
It went OK?
Yeah. Yeah, it went fine.
Then what’s wrong? You seem upset.
Yeah. Yeah, I– I am upset. All right, not– not about what Alex and Chanel did in that scene. I’m upset about what you and I did in real life. Look, Joy, I’ve got to tell my wife the truth.
You– you can’t be serious. That is the dumbest thing that you could do.
[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”
Johnny, what are you thinking? Chanel has given you another chance. She doesn’t know about us. Why would you risk blowing it up again?
Because– because– because the guilt is eating away at me, OK? The whole time I was directing that love scene between Alex and Chanel, all I could think about was what happened in your hotel room, OK? I got to make things right. I’ve got to clear my conscience.
Well, that’s all well and great for you, but what about me? Did you think about how maybe I would be affected? You would be putting a giant target on my back.
You’re not in a relationship, are you?
I am, in fact. I’m in a relationship with my employer, “Body & Soul.” I’m in a relationship with my new coworkers, my director, my castmates, including your wife, Johnny, who wouldn’t just be mad at you. She would hate me too. And who knows how far she would go to make us both pay?
[tense music]
[sighs]
Speaking of your man, you and Johnny seem to be back on track, huh?
Uh, we’re working on it.
Good. Chanel, I’m sorry, again, if anything that happened had to do with me.
Oh, no way, dude. That is all on him, OK? He was just being ridiculous. Thinking that I would cheat on him?
Yeah, well, I’m glad you gave him another chance. I, for one, totally understand the fragile male ego kryptonite known as jealousy. It’s what ruined my relationship with Stephanie. When we first got involved a while back, my jealousy of Chad is pretty much what blew things up between us.
Paulina, I– I think maybe the doctors forgot to check your eyes. This is Stephanie, not your daughter, Chanel.
Her eyes are fine, Roman. Here is that report you requested.
OK, I– I don’t follow.
I was making a joke. Didn’t mean to offend you, Stephanie.
That’s OK. Haven’t lost my sense of humor.
Oh, well, I’m glad to hear that. And of course, I can tell the difference between you and Chanel. I mean, who couldn’t? Oh, wait. Oh, that’s right. My idiot son-in-law.
OK, now I follow. So I will quickly remind the mayor that, uh, the guy who is preparing her meal happens to be that idiot’s grandfather.
Oh, right. Sorry.
You know what? It’s OK. It’s OK. I heard about what happened, and I have to agree. Accusing Chanel of having an affair was not Johnny’s greatest moment.
Oh, I don’t know what has gotten into that boy. He’s normally– uh, he’s a sweetie pie, but then all of a sudden, he’s acting a fool, just like his jackass father.
JJ, what are you doing in Salem?
Saving you from this creep, apparently. EJ, I said let her go.
Back off, JJ. This is none of your damn business.
You putting your hands on her made it my business, so I suggest you remove your hand from her wrist right now, or you’re gonna have to deal with me.
[tense music]
You son of a bitch.
So you haven’t changed much. Still the same pompous ass who mistreats women.
Huh. If you’re referring to my past with your sister, there was no mistreatment. Abigail was a willing participant in our affair, just as Gabi was. Actually, they were both eager participants.
Hey! You don’t talk about my sister like that. You don’t talk about her at all, you hear me?
[exhales deeply] I’m sorry.
What happened to your sister was a terrible tragedy, and I know that her imposter has caused you and her loved ones more pain, and I do apologize for bringing her into this.
Yeah, well, you damn well should. And to answer your question, Gabi, about why I’m back in Salem– well, the main reason is to make sure Cat Greene pays for denigrating my sister’s memory.
Oh, dear. Then I’m afraid you made the trip for nothing.
What does that mean?
That means that the charges against Cat Greene have been dropped. She’s a free woman.
Why would Chanel blame you for what happened between us? You didn’t even know who she was the night you met me.
Yes. But then I started working with her, and I pretended that I didn’t know you from Adam, when I got the job. Johnny, she will hate me for lying, which sucks because I really like her. And her stepfather is the producer, for God’s sake. If this gets out, I’m gone, written out, recast, killed off, whatever.
Look, hold on. Chanel is not gonna get you fired, OK?
I don’t know about that. And if she doesn’t, then Kate Brady will definitely want me gone. Publicist, Stephanie? I heard that she was almost let go for sleeping with one of her coworkers. She barely dodged that bullet, Johnny. I might not be so lucky.
OK, but you and Stephanie had something going on again recently.
Until Kate and Abe laid down the law– no fraternizing among employees.
Which you don’t sound happy about.
Hmm. It’s whatever.
Oh, it’s whatever. Mm-hmm. Yeah, the last time you and I spoke about you and Stephanie, I remember asking you if you wanted to be more than just friends with benefits with her.
I remember the conversation, yeah.
Uh-huh. And I also remember you answering evasively, saying that you weren’t sure how she felt, and then I suggested that you ask her. Did you ever do that?
I didn’t have to, Chanel. Because Stephanie made it clear many, many times that she wanted to remain friends.
Mm-hmm.
Although…
Although what?
After our most, uh, recent indiscretion, she admitted that she was jealous when she thought I might be sleeping with a castmate.
[soft dramatic music]
OK then. I mean, you have your answer, right? I mean, obviously, if she’s feeling jealous about something like that, it’s because she has real feelings for you. Hello?
Maybe.
Uh-huh. And then judging from our previous conversation, and now this one, I think it’s safe to say that you feel something for her too. Am I right?
[exhales]
Actually, Johnny’s mistake was partly my fault and Alex’s. Johnny never would have mistaken me for Chanel if Alex and I hadn’t acted inappropriately that day in the hospital set.
Oh, oh, no, no, please. Please, I don’t hold you and Alex responsible in the slightest, and as for my little joke, consider it retired.
Thank you.
Uh, but you know what? Uh, while we’re on the subject, um, why don’t– why don’t you sit down and dish a bit? So since when did you and Mr. Ab-tastic start shaking the sheets again?
You know what? I’m gonna start, uh, on those mozzarella sticks, OK?
[chuckles]
Ah. Guess he wasn’t interested, huh?
Guess not. Uh, but since you obviously are, um, I will tell you that, uh, that incident at the hospital, um, it was actually the start of us, starting things back up again between me and Alex.
[relaxed music] But it– it ended as quickly as it started.
Oh. Yeah, right. Yeah, I heard that, uh, my husband and Kate put the kibosh on workplace relationships. Ooh, ooh. And, you know, I completely understand. I’ve had– I’ve had to lay down that law from time to time myself as mayor. But I imagine it’s kind of hard on you, huh?
No. No, it isn’t, actually. Um, Alex and I are– are better off as friends.
Ah, my commissioner badge. Yes.
All yours again.
Sure you OK with this? I know you probably got used to being in charge.
What, are you worried that just because I got a little taste of it, that I’m not able to let it go?
No. No. It’s just, uh, I know you enjoyed it.
Yeah, I did. I did. But you know what? I’m very happy to let you be boss again. In the workplace, that is.
Uh-huh.
Because here, you answer to me. Now, come here.
Yes, ma’am.
[sensual music]
And bang, here you go.
Mmm-mmm. Oh.
Sorry. Are we late?
Oh, no, no, no. Not at all. And since I got here so early, I took the liberty of ordering an appetizer, which you are welcome to share.
Ooh, don’t mind if I do.
Oh, wait. Hold up right there, missy. Is that what I think it is?
It is.
Oh, my goodness! Oh, congratulations, you two. Oh, what wonderful news. Oh.
All right. Congratulations, partner.
Thank you.
When did you pop the question?
Ah, yesterday. Been celebrating ever since.
All right. It doesn’t stop here, OK? Lunch is on the house. What will you have?
Oh. Well, you know, I’ll have a burger. Usual fixings, please.
Ooh, make that two. Thank you.
Yeah, what the hell? Make it three.
All right, coming right up.
Great.
Oh, wow. I’m so happy for you two. Oh, and I want to hear all the details, but maybe we should save that for after, uh, you know, when we get down to business.
Yeah, OK. Yeah, all right. We’ll jump right in then. Um, OK, yeah. So, just so you know, the doctors gave me the all-clear, and, uh– so as soon as you give me your permission, Mayor Price, I am ready to resume my commissioner duties immediately.
Mm-hmm.
Well, about that, you know, I’ve given that matter a lot of thought, and I’ve decided that’s not a good idea.
[relaxed music]
Do I have feelings for Stephanie? Hmm. What I can tell you, I think she’s great. I do know that. She’s easy to be around. She’s smart. She’s funny. She’s beautiful. First woman I ever gave my heart to.
[tender music] But that was a long time ago. A lot’s happened since then. So I don’t want either of us getting hurt again, especially not Stephanie. She’s just– she’s amazing. She’s the best person I know, in fact.
[laughs] Oh, my God. Alex.
What?
I mean, it was a yes or no question, but you just gave me a whole improvised sonnet.
Oh, my God. All right, is it– is it too late? Can I plead the fifth instead? Maybe a redo? Can I go again?
No way, bro, no. It is all out there now. You know what? We should call Leo, and we should ask him to write that in for your character so Arrow can say that.
Just stop, please, right now. Just please. Enough. Oy.
Hey, guys.
Uh–
What you talking about?
We, uh– we were just–
Hmm.
Uh–
We just, uh, finished shooting, and we were just, uh, talking, and Alex was complimenting me on my amazing acting ability, which I felt was a little bit overboard.
No. No.
Anyway, um, I need to go run lines with my other scene partner for next week, so I will see you two around.
All right.
All right.
What’s going on? What brings you to set?
You, actually.
Oh.
I need a huge favor.
Johnny, you don’t understand. My mother already thinks that I make a mess of everything, and getting myself fired from the show before it even airs will just prove her right.
I don’t want that to happen to you either.
Then don’t say anything. Please. And, Johnny, you think you’re being so honorable, but what if this ruins things for you too? What if you tell Chanel about us, and she doesn’t forgive you? What if she ends your marriage over this?
[tense music] You have got to keep your mouth shut, Johnny. Please. For both of our sakes.
Hey. What’s going on in here?
[sighs]
What the hell is wrong with you, EJ? You can’t let that lying snake go free.
Oh, I already did. Cat Greene was released from police custody right before I ran into you.
Oh, my God.
How could you let that happen?
This is also none of your business.
This is none of my business? That woman tried to pass herself off as my dead sister. She conspired with her brother to kill yours and steal your family’s money, and you’re just– you’re just gonna let her walk? That makes zero sense.
If you don’t like it, file a complaint with City Hall.
How about I file a complaint right now?
Back off. Oh!
[screams]
That’s enough!
[grunts]
I could have arrested for assault, you fool.
He said the same thing to me earlier. There’s just one problem. It’s hard to abuse one’s power when there’s an eyewitness. I’d testify that you shoved him first. You initiated the fight.
[tense music]
[sniffs]
Neither of you are worth the trouble.
[spits]
Damn it. I just– I don’t– I don’t get it. Why would he let Cat Greene go?
No idea. Could it be because she’s possibly guilty? The DA gets a kick out of putting innocent people away.
So I’ve heard. I’m– I’m sorry, Gabi. I– I can’t– I can’t believe you went to prison for a crime you didn’t commit.
Yeah. It’s all thanks to that man. If he hadn’t railroaded me, I wouldn’t have lost a year of my life, and I’d still have my marriage.
Everything all right?
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, your husband and I were just having a little disagreement about an upcoming scene.
Oh? Oh, I see.
But I have pled my case already, and it’s up to him now. So, director, what do you say? Have you come around to my side of thinking?
I see your point.
And I will defer to you. For now.
Great. Thank you. I think that’s best. For my character.
[clears throat]
OK, well, uh, now that that is settled, I came by to see if you wanted to run lines for our scenes next week. I know it’s gonna be your first time on camera, so I just want to make sure you’re comfortable.
That would be great. You’re the best, Chanel.
All right. Well, then, I guess I will see you at home.
Yes, you will.
So what’s the favor?
Well, when I first got this job, I pitched an idea for a photoshoot with this well-known magazine.
OK.
Didn’t think it was going to happen, but I just got the call that they’re willing to do it. The only catch is, it has to happen now. Like, right now.
Right now? Right now? Why– why so last-minute?
I guess they had a cancellation.
Oh.
So would you mind coming back with me to the “Body & Soul” offices to take some photos? It could be really good publicity for the show and for you.
Uh– yeah. I mean, do you want me to go, like, grab Chanel or track down Joy, or–
Actually, this one is boys only.
Why is it boys only?
It’s for “Playgal.”
Oh, God.
[inhales deeply] Hmm.
Mayor Price, I can assure you, any fears that you might have about my recovery, I am more than ready to get back to work. And as I said, all the doctors have given me their approval.
Yeah, Paulina, I’ve been to most of his appointments with him, and I can % vouch that he is fully recovered. Perfectly healthy.
I think you both misunderstood. Now, I have no doubts about Rafe’s health or his abilities to perform the job.
[relaxed music]
Then I don’t understand.
Rafe, you are an excellent cop, and I am thrilled that you’re ready to rejoin the force, but since the PD is short staffed, I need you back at the station as a detective, and I want Jada to stay on as commissioner.
Hmm.
Mayor Price, I agreed to stand in for Rafe as commissioner during his recovery. My intention was never to replace him permanently.
Mm-hmm, I’m sure it wasn’t. And I know this might be awkward for you both, but, uh, I honestly believe that this is the right move, and as much as I do strongly appreciate seeing a Black woman in charge, this goes beyond that.
But Mayor Price, I–
Jada, let me finish, please. Now, since you have taken over since last summer, ooh, you’ve been kicking butt and taking names. Crime is down double digits, and you’ve also, you know, overseen many high-profile cases, though, you know, including the murder of Li Shin and um, you know, the recent apprehension of Vivian Alamain. The record is impressive.
Mayor Price, I am flattered. Really, I am. But I’m afraid I’m going to have to decline. I can’t take Rafe’s job.
Uh, the job doesn’t belong to Rafe. It belongs to whomever I see fit to give it, and that person is you. So like I said now, Rafe, now this is not personal. You’re a great cop, but seeing as how everything’s been running smoothly in your absence, I see no reason to upend that. And, well, you know, I hope you understand.
[phone beeps] Oh. Oh, wait. Oh, you know– oh, I got– I got to deal with a– uh-huh. I got to deal with a mayoral emergency.
OK, no problem. I’ll box this up.
Oh, no, no. I’ll just take mine to go, OK? Oh. Oh, gosh. Oh, you know what? There’s not even any time. Oh. I’ll have this, uh– you know, I’ll have my assistant bring your plate back as soon as I can. I promise. Hmm?
[relaxed music]
[sighs]
That woman is, uh, definitely unpredictable.
Ain’t that the truth?
So how did it go with Roman? Uh, were you able to rent a room at the pub?
Yep, yeah, I moved in last night after we all had dinner, actually. Which, by the way, that was so kind of you to let my mother and I crash your evening with Johnny. I just hope she didn’t talk too much. She has a way of taking over.
Oh, no, no, no. She did not talk too much, OK? Ms. Nancy is a lot of fun. We really enjoyed her company. And speaking of moms, Johnny and I promised yours that we would look after you. So I was thinking, why don’t you come over for dinner tonight? That way, we can all get to know each other even better.
[tense music]
[sighs]
What happened to you?
[sighs] Not worth talking about. Hey, I– I heard about your disastrous birthday party. I’m– I’m sorry.
Yeah, well, I’m the one who’s sorry. I really screwed up, Dad. I– I don’t know. I’m normally not so insecure or jealous, you know? But I just– I– I– I don’t know what came over me.
It happens to the best of us, Son. DiMera men are passionate, to say the least. But I’m sure you and Chanel will work things out. After all, what you did wasn’t so egregious. You merely jumped to the wrong conclusion and said a few unkind words.
Yeah. Well, there’s– there’s actually more to it than that.
What more? What do you mean?
Chanel doesn’t know it, but, uh, there was something I did that actually was egregious and really, really stupid.
[dramatic music]
Here, sit. Give me your hand.
[relaxed music] Are you OK?
Yeah, I’ll live. So the fight with EJ? Was that about how he sent you to prison when you were innocent?
No. It was because I confronted him about the role he played in destroying my marriage.
You and Stefan are calling it quits?
My divorce papers are being filed as we speak.
I’m sorry about that.
Thanks. And JJ, it was so good of you to stand up for me before.
So does that mean all is forgiven between us?
Gabi, um… what you did to Julie, tampering with her pacemaker, putting her very life in jeopardy, I– look, I– I know that a lot of time has gone by since that happened.
But it’s not easy to forgive. I know. Or even possible to forgive. I shouldn’t have asked that question.
It’s OK. Um, I don’t blame you for asking. But I’d be lying if I– if I said that I still wasn’t angry about that– that that memory still isn’t painful for me.
Why wouldn’t you be?
JJ, I’m still really angry with myself that I sank so low. Horrified, actually.
But JJ, that’s not who I am anymore. I know words are cheap, but I really have been working on myself. I want to be a better person. I’m determined to be.
I’m glad to hear that.
So uh, does that mean that you’ll give me a chance to prove to you that I’ve changed?
Yeah. Yeah, I will. I– I believe that you’re sincere in wanting to be a better person.
I am. %.
Thanks again for coming to my rescue earlier.
Well, you rescued me once, too, remember? I owed you one.
Talking about Christmas Eve all those years ago?
I am. That was the darkest moment of my life, and you were there for me.
I was just being a friend.
It was more than that. You saved my life. So in spite of it all, I’m very grateful for you. Always will be.
Yes, most of our hunks have agreed to the shoot. Right, yep, and they will be ready by the time your photographer gets here. No, no. My God, they’re all very excited.
Steph, I don’t think I can do this.
I have to go. I will see you soon.
Oh, what– what do you mean? What do you mean? What’s wrong?
What do you mean, “What’s wrong?” I look ridiculous.
Oh, you don’t. You don’t. It– it– it looks fine. What are you, like, a– a sexy Peter Pan?
I’m Robin Hood. I make the ladies quiver, you know? You get it? My character’s name is Arrow.
Ooh, clever.
Uh-huh, clever. Seriously, though, is this too much?
Alex Kiriakis, are you self-conscious about your body?
No. No, of course not. I just– I don’t want to look stupid.
You don’t look stupid. You look hot. Sexy as hell.
Oh. OK, then, all right. Well, if only we can get this strap to stop digging in my chest.
Ah, maybe I– maybe I can loosen it.
Yeah.
Where’s the– oh.
[sensual music]
Is– is that better?
Mm. Yeah.
[tender music]
[phone beeps]
Oh, photographer’s here. I need to go let him in.
OK. Uh, I guess there’s no turning back now.
Don’t worry. You look great.
[sighs]
Really, really, really, really. And thank you again for doing this.
Anything for you, Steph.
[sighs]
[relaxed music]
I hope your hand doesn’t hurt too much.
Yeah. I’ll be fine. Thank you.
Right, I better get going. I need to get to the bottom of this Cat Greene fiasco, or try. I’m sure Chad has a lot to say about it.
Well, keep me posted, OK?
I will.
It was really good to see you again, JJ.
You too, Gabi.
[soft dramatic music]
Rafe, this isn’t what I wanted.
I know. I know. But it’s clearly what Paulina wants, and what Paulina says goes.
[chuckles] Guess I should consider myself lucky she still wants me as a detective.
[relaxed music]
I– I don’t know what to say.
I do. Congratulations.
Guess this belongs to you now.
[tense music]
That is such a kind offer, but I’m just worried that Johnny might be a little annoyed with me because of earlier.
No, he’ll get– he will get over it, OK? And besides, he’s kind of in the doghouse right now, and he’s trying to get back in my good graces, so that basically means he has to do whatever I want, and what I want is for you to come over to dinner tonight, and I will not take no for an answer, so…
OK, I’m in.
All right. Yay.
John Roman, what did you do that was so stupid and egregious?
OK, look, if I tell you, you cannot say a word to anyone.
Of course not.
Dad, I made a huge mistake.
I thought Chanel was cheating on me, so in return, I, uh– I cheated on her.
