THIS STILL NEEDS EXTENSIVE EDITING!
No, no, no. My God. Mom, how could you do this? Hey, you’re back.
Yeah. Hi. Listen, Tate, there’s something–
I’m sorry, Holly. Before you say anything, I just got the worst news. My mom has been arrested. [tense music]
Hey, sis.
Hey. I was wondering when you were gonna show up, not to clean up this absolute mess I’ve made of my life, but to tell me how very disappointed you are in me, tell me that you’re ashamed to be my brother, and that you are totally ready to disown me.
No. That’s not why I’m here. I came to say I’m proud of you. [tender music]
– You know, the more I reflect on my last session with Everett, the more I begin to think that his reaction to the hypnosis was– was textbook.
What? Do you think that he was just telling you what you wanted to hear?
I’m feeling a little concerned that his integration is something he’s faking. [knocking at door]
Who is it?
It’s Abe.
Oh, oh. Come in, Abe.
Wow.
Hi.
Sorry to interrupt. Hello, Kayla.
Hi.
[laughs]
Your assistant said that you might be willing to talk.
Well, I’m always willing to talk. And I actually have a few minutes before my next patient–
Well, listen, if it’s private, I can step out.
No, no. Please, please, please stay. I’m just happy that I caught the two of you together.
Why? Is something wrong?
Uh, no. No, it’s all good. I’m just hoping that you two can help make it better.
Okay. I think you have our attention now. What is this about?
Well, ladies, I have an offer that you can’t refuse. [soft dramatic music]
Oh.
All right. What do you think, big guy? A little higher? [baby coos] No? Like it right there? Okay, whatever you say.
Wow. What’s all this?
Very festive, huh? Jude helped me decorate, didn’t you, buddy? [baby giggles]
Well, you two did an excellent job. What’s the occasion?
Going away party– Eric and Nicole. They’re moving to Paris. [mellow acoustic music]
Excuse me, sir. Did you remember to pack your razor?
Yes, I’ve got it.
[chuckles] Oh, and we’re gonna have to pick up one of those outlet converters. I guess we can do that at the airport.
Yeah. Yeah, sure. Oh, my dad said he could hold on to whatever doesn’t fit in our suitcase until we get a place in Paris.
Hmm. I’m sure EJ will burn whatever I have left behind.
Yeah. My God, I just had déjà vu.
Yeah?
Yeah. This was the same bag I was carrying when you stopped me from getting on that plane to Paris.
Oh. And look at that. Now we’re going together.
Yeah, we are. [gentle music]
[soft orchestration] announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the “Days of Our Lives.”
I’m sure you both heard about “Body and Soul” being canceled.
I did.
“Body and Soul”?
“Body and Soul,” it’s a soap opera, and Abe is a big fan. Well, was a big fan. We caught a couple of shows when he was living with us. And, you know, it was good.
Hmm.
Oh. Well, I’m sorry your soap opera got canceled.
Well, the good news is it might be making a comeback.
Oh.
Kate and I bought the rights, and we’re going to be producing it right here in Salem.
Oh. Well, that’s–that’s cute.
Well, I think you and Kate would make a good team.
And it might even be a boost to the local economy.
Well, that’s part of our pitch to the investors.
Well, of course, we will support you in any way we can, right?
Glad to hear you say that, because I am actually going to need your help.
Oh, are you looking for investors?
No. No. we’re looking for stars. [intriguing music]
I don’t think I heard you right. I have–I’ve committed multiple felonies. And you just said that you’re proud of me?
Not for the felonies, obviously. I’m proud of you for turning yourself in. You took responsibility for what you did, and that shows character.
As much as I appreciate approval from my big brother, I– I don’t know what character is gonna do when I’m doing hard time.
I cannot believe that this is happening, Holly. You know, my mom judges me for lying and sneaking around, and then she does this. I mean, I knew my mom has done some bad things in the past. But I genuinely thought that she was trying to, you know, be better. I really believed that when she told me. And then I find out from Lady Whistleblower, of all people, that my mom forged this letter that made it look like Alex was my great-grandfather Victor’s son. But it wasn’t Alex. It turns out it was Xander Cook that was his son.
Yeah, I know.
Wait, you–you knew?
Tate, my Grandma Maggie just told me the whole story. I’m sorry about your mom, really sorry. [somber music]
Yeah, I don’t know. I– I guess it hasn’t really sunk in yet. I don’t know. Just, it feels like I’m in some kind of nightmare that I’m gonna wake up from. But I’m not, am I? This–this really happened.
Yeah, it did. And it’s terrible for your mom, for you, for your dad. But, hey, I have some good news. At least, I hope you’ll think it’s good.
Yeah, what is it?
My Grandma Maggie just asked me to live with her.
Are you sure you’re okay about letting Holly stay in Salem?
No. No, I’m–I’m not. But you know how I always worry. And–and sometimes I worry for no reason at all. It’s just my nature, I guess.
No. You’re a caring mom.
Hmm. And sometimes a hovering one. You know what? Holly made a really good case, you know. She–this is her senior year. And she doesn’t want to leave her friends. And she’s not doing drugs anymore. I think she’s learned her lesson. And I now I have to learn to trust her. And Maggie is looking after her. And you know what? Not just Maggie, she does have other family, obviously– Sarah and Abe and Paulina.
Abe. Yeah, It’s very true.
Kind of like family, right? And I know they’ll be there for her if she needs them.
It’s very true.
I just– After everything that’s happened, I don’t want to disrupt her life more than I already have.
I get that. But I wasn’t just asking what it means for Holly.
Yeah. Well, obviously, I’m gonna miss my little girl like crazy.
Yeah.
But I do know that she will be surrounded by people who love her. But I’ve–I’ve got to let Holly live her life. And I need to focus on living mine with Jude, and with you. [tender music] And Eric, we’ve been waiting for this for so long. I mean, we– we have a baby together.
Yes, we do.
Then sometimes I– I wonder if I’m dreaming.
You’re not dreaming.
You sure? I mean, can you– can you pinch me, just in case?
No. I’ve got a better idea.
You’re looking for stars?
Well, I should have said actors, who, I’m sure, will become stars once we get this show up and running.
Hmm. What does that have to do with us?
I–I think I know.
Of course you do, because you, Kayla Johnson, are the spitting image of Cassandra Lovegood. And you, Marlena Evans, you’re a dead ringer for Charlemagne de la Croix.
Are those the names of real people?
No. No. They’re the names of the people on the show, the characters.
Oh.
Abe thinks that we look just like them.
Because you do. I mean, it’s–it’s uncanny. Hey, look. Charlemagne has done her ,th episode.
Five thousand?
Mm-hmm. She’s been on the show for decades. Here, take a look. [intriguing music]
Maybe a slight resemblance.
Slight? It’s uncanny, just like Kayla is for Cassandra. You know, I think that– actually, I know that the two of you would be perfect for the reboot of “Body and Soul.”
So now EJ is driving people out of the country.
Yeah. Well, you know, Eric and Nicole could have stayed, of course. But yeah, EJ’s making things difficult. So they just decided it’s not worth the trouble to stick around and have to put up with his machinations.
Yeah. Well, he’s the villain. Yet he’s punishing them as if they haven’t been punished enough.
He’s a DiMera.
Yeah, he is, through and through. That’s for sure. Well, look, at least Eric is taking that magazine job, right?
Yeah. Yeah, he is. It was still available. And so they’re– they’re gonna pack Jude up and move there.
Well, he was really happy about that job, you know. It’s good for his career, and, I don’t know, if you have to be exiled–
You could do a lot worse than Paris.
That’s true. So what about Holly? I mean, are they going to uproot her too?
No, they’re not. She’s gonna stay right here in Salem.
Mm-hmm. And then once my mom told me that she and Eric were moving to Paris, well, I told her I wasn’t going. Actually, I said I would refuse to go.
Wow. And she was just– she was okay with that?
No, not at all, especially not at first. But I don’t know. I think once she realized I’d be miserable if she forced me to leave my whole life behind, well, she, kind of, came around. And then when my Grandma Maggie said I could live with her, that did it. So she said I could stay.
Wow, that’s really great.
Yeah, but, Tate, I don’t want to act like this is all good news when you’re so upset about your mom.
[sighs] It’s okay. Yeah, I am. I just–I have to remind myself that she brought this on herself. You know, and as sorry as I feel for her, I’m really, really angry at her for all the lies she told and how many people she hurt. I guess there’s an upside, and I should look at that. And it’s that my mom won’t be policing me anymore. [soft dramatic music] So, you know– at least not for a while.
Right. And since my mom’s moving to another continent–
We won’t have to sneak around anymore.
No, no more of that.
Tate, look, I know that it’s bittersweet with your mom being in serious trouble and my mom having to move to another country just because her husband turned out to be a lying bastard. But I’m so grateful that we have each other.
Me too. I’m so grateful.
And Theresa, you might not have to do hard time. I want to see if I can negotiate a deal.
Really? You really think you can do that?
I’m going to try. But, as you’ve already pointed out, you are facing some serious charges. And there will be, no doubt, serious consequences.
There should be. I’ve hurt a lot of people, some that I really care about.
Look, there were some mitigating factors, all right? First, Xander and Sarah’s baby was returned to them shortly after you took her. And then there’s the issue of fraud– tampering with the briefcase and forging the letter. Both those acts were committed on foreign soil. And I really doubt that the Greek government is going to extradite you, especially since none of the victims were Greek citizens. [soft dramatic music]
You’re–you’re– you’re kind of making this sound like I might have a chance to beat this. I mean… do you really think you can sell this to the district attorney? [romantic acoustic music]
* Sweet like a memory Saturday morning * * Fresh-cut grass ‘neath my bare feet * * It’s like swinging so high on a swing * * You’re like the fresh summer breeze * * Soft like a whisper, he leans in to kiss her * * She gets those tingling feelings * * That’s what you’re doing to me * * Your love is a beautiful thing *
* And who knows where this goes? * * But I feel it right down to my toes * * You’re like cartwheels in spring * * Your love is a beautiful thing * * Weak like a schoolgirl when she sees her first crush * * Can’t get this smile off my face * * I’ve got the world on a string * * Love is a beautiful thing *
* And who knows where this goes? * * But I feel it right down to my toes * * You’re my favorite song on repeat * * Your love is a beautiful thing *
Tate, this means we can finally be together whenever we want, wherever we want.
Wait, no.
No, wait what?
No, what about my dad?
What about him? I thought you said your mom was the one who was all freaked out about us.
Yeah. Yeah, that’s true. My dad’s more reasonable. But my dad’s gonna go ballistic if he finds out that he’s paying all this money for Aaron Green to go to lacrosse camp.
Mm. Yeah, I don’t think he’s gonna be too reasonable about that.
Yeah. More like he might never speak to me again.
[sighs] Okay. Well, what should we do?
I think you’re gonna have to keep working at the Bistro, and I’m gonna have to stay up here at the cabin, I–
Are you sure? I mean, okay. What if you said you got really homesick, so you had to come back early?
Holly, homesick? My dad’s not going to buy that.
Okay. Well, what if– what if you faked an injury? You sprained your ankle, so you can’t play lacrosse anymore.
Yeah, that could work. And I suppose I could get Aaron to help me make that work. But I don’t think that we can trust Sophia to keep her mouth shut. And even with my mom crashing and burning, I still think it would be a mistake to underestimate her ability to totally wreck my life. She’s good at multitasking.
Right.
Yeah.
Well, I guess I don’t mind sneaking around a little while longer. It makes it kind of exciting right?
Yeah, it kind of does, huh? [soft dramatic music]
I don’t want to, but I have to go.
What do you mean? I thought you had time before your dinner shift.
I do, but now I have to say goodbye to my mom and Jude and Eric. It’s–it’s funny. I spent all this time hoping my mom would leave me alone. And–and now that she actually is, I’m– I’m just– I’m really gonna miss her and Eric and little Jude. I’m sorry, Tate. I know my mom’s only going to Paris.
And mine’s probably going to prison.
Are you gonna be okay if I go?
Yeah. Yeah, I’ll be fine. I’m used to my mom doing crazy, self-destructive things.
I’m sorry, Tate. And look, your mom, she has a great family who loves her no matter what. And she has you in her corner. And even though you’re away at camp, you’ll still be there for her too.
I can’t be certain, of course, that DA DiMera will agree to a deal. I can definitely make a case. And considering how the guy feels right now about his wife, the fact that Nicole hates you might work in your favor.
Yeah. Okay, I see your point. Andrew. [soft dramatic music]
I know I have royally screwed up, probably worse than ever before, and… I just want you to know how grateful I am that you want to help me. But I just don’t understand why.
You really need a reason?
Yeah, I do.
Okay. I’ll give you one. Aston Martin DB. [chuckles].
[chuckles]
Dad’s James Bond car.
Mm-hmm. Jeez, I wasn’t even Tate’s age when I took it out for a spin.
Yeah, you wouldn’t let me go with you.
Mm. It’s a good thing I didn’t. The tree I hit ended up in the passenger seat. Luckily, no one was hurt. And as you know, I committed a few felonies of my own that night. I left the scene of an accident. I ran all the way home.
Dad got the call from the police.
He knew it was me. He got me out of bed, and we were in his study. And he’s about to read me the riot act when, suddenly… you came in. And you said it was you. And you took the blame.
Well, I was always the one doing awful things, you know. So what did it matter if I did one more awful thing? [phone ringing]
It’s him.
Oh.
Must have known we were talking about him.
Yeah. Well, he is a spy.
Let me. Let me.
[sighs] Hi, daddy.
You know, I would think after all of the drama that Holly had this summer, that Nicole wouldn’t want to let her out of her eyesight.
Well, not all of that drama was of her making. And Nicole doesn’t want her daughter to have to deal with moving halfway around the world. Plus, Maggie will keep a close eye on her, I’m sure.
Well, bless her heart, but I wouldn’t want a teenager under my roof again.
We sure paid our dues, didn’t we? Sami, Lucas.
Yeah, we did. Anyway, I’m glad that I’m restricting all of my drama to the small screen these days.
Which is incredible. You getting the rights to that show– I am very proud of you, Kate.
Thank you. I’m kind of proud of myself, actually, especially since it all seems to be coming together. I mean, it’s amazing. Abe is casting as we speak.
Well, I’m sure it’s a very flattering offer. But shooting a TV show, I mean, I couldn’t do that with my schedule.
Neither could I. I’m chief of staff. It’s a full-time job.
I know how busy you both are. But we could shoot around your schedules. And we could do some location shooting right here at the hospital.
No. Abe, I would love to help you out. But I am going to pass.
Afraid I am too. I’m sure you can find somebody out there to play…Cah-sandra Lovegide?
Lovegood.
Oh, yes. Yes. Yes. And Charloquinn–Charlotte–
No, Charlemagne.
Oh.
Charlemagne.
I haven’t seen the show.
Right. [phones beeping]
Oh, oh. Huh. Oh, it’s Kate.
Yeah, mine too.
Same.
Hmm. Well, it looks like they’re having a going-away party for Eric and Nicole at the pub.
Where are they going?
Why don’t I explain that on the way?
Well, good. That will give me a chance to change your minds. [gentle music]
[sighs]
[laughs]
[exhales] That was–
Oh, it definitely was. Oh, and we weren’t even high on biscuits.
Who needs biscuits?
Oh. I just had a thought.
Yeah, what was that?
We’re both still married to other people. We just committed adultery. [chuckles]
Yes, we did.
And I don’t feel a bit guilty.
Neither do I.
I love you, Eric.
I love you too, Nicole.
Thanks, Daddy. I love you too. [phone beeps] [somber music]
[phone beeps] [phone ringing] [phone beeps]
Uncle Andrew?
No, Tate. It’s Mom.
Well, well. Am I looking at the new stars of “Body and Soul”?
I’m afraid not.
Although it was a very flattering offer.
It was so flattering that they turned me down flat.
Okay. Well, I am disappointed. But I’m not surprised, because we’re asking two very successful doctors to give up all of their spare time for big hair and sequins.
You know, I’m sure it would be fun, right? But there–it’s got to be a lot of people that are gonna want the part.
Yeah. Well, let’s hope so.
So you do know that this doesn’t mean that you’re not going to play Lorna Delory.
Oh, come on. Do you expect me to produce the show and star in it too?
Well, I have two words for you: Barbra Streisand.
Okay.
[chuckles] And I’m not giving up on either of you either.
Oh, please.
Yeah. [laughter]
Can I get a drink? [mellow acoustic music]
Hmm. Great photo.
Oh. Yeah.
[sighs] I’m gonna miss them so much– our son, my little grandson.
You know, I– I tried to contact Brady and invite him, but didn’t get a response.
Yeah. Well, Eric and Nicole didn’t give us much notice.
No, they didn’t. Would have been nice. Would have been nice to have a large group here for them, especially since John and Steve are still in Europe.
Hey.
Hey. Hey, I’m sorry I’m late.
Well, Eric and your mom are still upstairs, packing. But I’m sure they’ll be down here any minute.
Okay. I can’t stay long, unfortunately. I have the dinner shift at the Bistro.
Well, your mom said you had the lunch shift. Are they working you too hard over there?
Nah, I don’t mind being busy. It keeps me out of trouble.
[chuckles] Holly, look, I know that Eric and your mom are gonna miss you like crazy. But we are very happy you’re staying right here in Salem.
Me too.
What’s all this?
Ah!
Surprise.
Hi. [indistinct chatter]
Hey. How’s camp?
Uh, it’s okay, I guess. Mom, I read about what happened at the wedding.
Yeah, I figured you– you would. [tense music] And just in case you’re wondering, it’s all true, Tate. I–I got arrested. I’m at the police station now.
I’ll come there right now.
No. Andrew’s with me.
Oh, and that’s why you have his phone. Mom, what’s gonna happen to you?
I think I might be going to prison.
[laughter]
This is great.
This is so great. You didn’t have to do all of this.
Well, we just wanted to celebrate you both as you head out to start your new life together.
I think we need a toast.
Yes.
Yes.
Glasses, yes.
Thank you.
Here we go. Here we go. Everyone, everybody. Sparkling cider.
Yes, please. [laughter]
To Eric and Nicole. You have weathered so many storms just to be together. You are strong. You are resilient. And we are so proud of you. [tender music] Eric, we know how– how long you’ve wanted to be a father. And you finally have your beautiful, beautiful baby boy. And now you have the woman you love, who happens to be, happily, the mother of that baby.
Yeah.
Who said dreams don’t come true? We’re going to miss you so much. But there will be lots of calls and lots of video chats.
[chuckles] Yes.
On a personal note… I do hope that you get to come back sometime soon. But until that time… we wish you love and peace on this amazing journey you are taking together, finally.
[chuckles]
To my son, Eric, and to Nicole, the love of his life. May you delight in each other every day, as though it were your first together. Cheers.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Cheers. [clinking]
Eric, is it you? We need to leave that moment behind us. We’re friends, and it’s great, and it’s wonderful. And I’m so happy that we can be.
Nicole, I love you. I’m still in love with you.
Eric, are you okay? Eric. Oh my God. Eric, baby, baby. What happened to you, Eric?
She’s so beautiful, isn’t she?
She’s like an angel.
Well, what about Holly? Who’s gonna take care of her? The best thing you can do is promise me that you will look after my daughter.
[crying]
Nicole Walker… Will you do me the honor… of becoming my wife?
No matter what life throws at us in the future, I know that we will get through it… together.
I love you so much.
I love you more.
Impossible.
[laughs] Infinity times one. [laughs]
Aw.
Yes.
All right.
And there we are.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Lovely, lovely day.
[chuckling]
Yes.
Yeah.
I am going to miss you so much.
Don’t you get all emotional on me, Abe Carver.
It’s too late for that.
[laughs] Listen, next time you go visit your son, you make sure you stop in Paris to see us, okay? [gentle music]
Sounds like a plan. Oh.
Oh. Mm.
I guess saying goodbye never gets easier, does it?
No. And I know I’ve made you say that to me a lot more than you would like.
I–I just– I want you to be happy.
I finally am.
Yeah, but do you have to be happy a half a world away?
Well, you know, look on the bright side. We might just get a chance to visit the City of Lights.
I’m gonna miss you both a lot.
Oh.
Miss you too.
Oh, my baby girl, I really hate leaving you.
We’ll video chat every single day, like Marlena said.
Yeah, you’re right. And I know you’ll–you’ll be with your Grandma Maggie, who adores you.
I know. And I’ll be perfectly fine. Mom, I just want to say I’m sorry for all the times that I’ve been hard on you or mad at you. And I hope you know that I think you’re a wonderful person. You’re a really great mom. And I’m also– I know that you’ve had so much loss and sadness in your life. And I’m just so proud of how strong you are through all of it.
Thank you, baby. And I’m so proud of you too, for your strength and your kindness. And I just– I just want you to have a great life.
I’ll try to. And I hope you and Eric and my little brother– you guys have a great life too. And I know you will, because you and Eric, you guys, you’re meant for each other.
Honey. Oh, my God. I just love you so much.
Love you too, Mom.
Okay. You be good for your grandma, okay?
I promise I will be. And I’ll come see you as soon as you’re settled.
Gosh, honey, you better.
Oh.
Oh, my God, Mom. So do you–do you really think that you’re going to prison?
I hope it doesn’t come to that. Your– your Uncle Andrew’s trying to… make a deal for me. But if he doesn’t, I want you to know I’m gonna be okay. I also want you to know I– I realize I’ve been really hard on you, Tate. I also want you to know I’m so, so proud of you. [somber music] And like your father says, you– you’ve really stepped up, you know. And you’ve– you’ve–you’ve really owned up to–to your mistakes. And I know that you didn’t want to go. But I know that you’re also working really hard at lacrosse camp. And seeing you own up to your mistakes, Tate, you’ve– You’ve been honest about where you went wrong, and… You really set an example for me. And honestly, it’s part of the reason that I turned myself in.
Mom, I have to tell you something.
Let me say something to you first, okay? It’s about Holly.
What about her?
When you come back from camp… if you want to see her, no matter what happens with me, I want you to know that I’m not gonna do anything to stop you, okay? I trust you. And I love you so much.
I love you too, mom. And I’m really proud of you.
Thank you. Goodbye, Tate.
Bye.
Bye.
Love you.
Bye.
Bye.
And bonne nuit. [soft dramatic music]
Love you.
Well, I was as strong as I could be. And now I think I’m gonna have a really good cry.
Well, some of those are happy tears, right?
You know, Eric and Nicole are together. And that’s the way it should be. Now, art– art imitates life, just as it is on “Body and Soul.”
Abe.
Ah. As I was going to say, as it is on those shows, people leave, but they almost always come back.
Yeah. He’s asleep. Look at that little smile. He must be having good dreams.
I think I’m the one who may be dreaming. Is this really happening?
It is. And if it’s not, then I don’t want to wake up.
Me neither. Are you ready to go?
Oh, I’ve never been more ready.
All right.
Let’s do this.
