Jack: Forgive me, son.
Finn: This– this is unbelievable. This lie. Everything that I thought I knew about you. You’re my biological father with sheila, hiding behind an adoption? What kind of man are you?
Jack: Not a very good one. I’m sorry, son.
Finn: I wanted to be like you. I looked up to you. And you’re just a liar.
Jack: Get it all out, finn. Get it all out. That’s the only way we’re going to get past this and continue on as father and son. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do.
Carter: Hey, man, I need your opinion.
Zende: Sure.
Carter: Katie’s putting together a publicity packet for the forrester foundation and she asked me to weigh in on paris’ head shots. What do you think?
Zende: Well, I mean, it depends on what the pamphlet is trying to accomplish.
Carter: Fundraising.
Zende: Then this one. I mean, they’re both beautiful. How can they not be? But this infectious smile lets people know that this woman is on top of her business. She’s not frivolous and any investment in her cause, it’s money well spent.
Carter: Damn, dude. That came out quick.
Zende: Paris is my favorite topic. I mean, I can talk about her, think about her for days.
Thomas: All right. Look. I know that this is probably completely unexpected, right? But you know what? If there is a chance for you and me, then we should explore that now before you’re fully committed.
Paris: You’re right. This is the last thing that I expected, tonight.
Thomas: Right, doesn’t look that good either. I mean, I’m kind of coming after you, my own cousin’s girlfriend. But it is important we find out now because if there’s a chance for us… I don’t want to lose it.
Zende: After my marriage didn’t work out, I said, “now that’s it. Never again. Back to the old player ways,” but then paris comes in, checking off every single box, being everything I’ve ever wanted. Now, not to mention those eyes. Oof.
Carter: Dude, you’ve got it bad.
Zende: I am not even ashamed. I am honored to be the guy that paris wants to be with.
Carter: I get why. Paris is something special.
Zende: You never lie. And trust me, I’m not going to lose her.
Paris: Wow. I never saw this coming.
Thomas: Neither did I, I– I got to say. I mean, look, I knew that I was attracted to you, for sure. But, the rest of it… I wasn’t sure, and– but I decided i would put it out there. I would let you know how I feel. And that’s, that’s good, right? Openness and honesty.
Paris: Uh, you make a point.
Thomas: Okay, good. Well, then it’s a good thing I put it out there. And I was honest with you. And, you know, you now know how I feel. Maybe you feel the same way?
Paris: Thomas, I’m touched and you’re a great guy but i think we should remain friends.
Jack: You actually think that we can come back from this?
Jack: I don’t expect it to be easy, but we’re family. We can get past anything.
Finn: Oh, so now that your secret’s out, you’re going to play the family card? This family is built on lies, to mom and to me. Our foundation is rotten because of your betrayal. Your affair with sheila carter– there’s no getting past that. No one can deliver your mom’s homemade short ribs.
Zende: Now, I have been talking way too much. How are things with you?
Carter: Focused on work. Keeps me out of trouble.
Zende: No personal life?
Carter: Not so much.
Zende: You okay with that?
Carter: There’s been a lot of drama these last few months.
Zende: Yeah, no kidding. You come out of all of that, okay?
Carter: Bruised and battered, but I survived. You know what, no. I did better than that. I am– I am moving forward with optimism.
Zende: Good. I would love to see you in a happy relationship.
Carter: Like you?
Zende: Like me. I have found my future and her name is paris.
Thomas: You know, if you want time to rethink that whole, “let’s just be friends thing,” I won’t hold you to it.
Paris: Thomas, you’re– you’re funny, you’re fun, you’re smart and talented and you know, not, not too bad to look at.
Thomas: Okay. All of that, all of that and much more could be yours.
Paris: I am in a relationship, as you well know, with your cousin.
Thomas: Yes. And yeah, me moving in on zende’s girlfriend not exactly the best look, but what’s the saying? Like, “nothing ventured. Nothing gained?”
Paris: Thomas, you really are a great guy, it’s just–
Thomas: You’re spoken for. I get it. But I had to tell you how I really feel because if I didn’t, I would have regretted it. And now, you know.
Finn: So this, this is who jack finnegan really is. A man who lied to his family for decades. A man who betrayed his wife with another woman and then tricked her into raising the child from that affair. I mean, how could you? How could you even live with yourself?
Jack: I was protecting you from sheila. She wasn’t equipped to raise a child, a child that li desperately wanted. It all came into place and seemed like the right thing to do at the time.
Finn: You call this right?
Jack: We had a good life. You were raised in a stable environment with two loving parents. Li got the child that she desperately wanted, that we weren’t able to conceive. My mistake was sheila and I’ll regret it for my entire life. Other than one thing. You. And with that, I didn’t want to blow up our family.
Finn: Did it ever occur to you that you should see what mom thought of all this? That you should have trusted and respected her enough to let her decide how she wanted to handle this? Would it be any worse than we are right now? How are mom and I supposed to look at you the same way again? In an instant, you have become a stranger that could break our trust in this unimaginable way.
Jack: Nothing is broken, not permanently. Look me in my eyes. Give me another chance. Please. You and li are my world, my everything. Finn. I love you. I’m so sorry. Please. Let me fix this. Just please say, “you forgive me.” Is struggling to manage your type 2 diabetes
Carter: Dude, I know you’re serious about paris but I didn’t expect you to throw around big words like future.
Zende: No one is more surprised than me. You know, like I said, I didn’t come back from overseas looking for love. I was going to keep it casual or keep it moving. I even said that a few times aloud so there would be no misunderstanding.
Carter: Yeah, I overheard some models a while back. One was warning the other.
Zende: About me?
Carter: “Zende’s fun but don’t get emotionally involved because he won’T.”
Zende: I mean, to be fair, I had every intention of keeping it like that until this little fireball burst into my life and changed everything about who I thought I was, what I thought I wanted.
Carter: So when you say, “paris is your future…”
Zende: Man, everything has been better since she walked through that door that one random afternoon. And there is no way that I’m going back to life without her.
Paris: If I weren’t in a happy relationship, this might be different.
Thomas: Timing is everything but hey, I appreciate the ego boost.
[Chuckles]
Paris: And if you’re concerned, I won’t say anything about this to zende. I don’t want to cause any friction between cousins.
Thomas: Thank you.
Paris: And I also don’t want things to be weird between us, either. I mean, we see each other every day at work. We share this apartment.
Thomas: And there you go. That’s why I made a decision. I’m moving out.
Li: Who are you?
Jack: You know better than anyone.
Li: The man I married would have never made a mockery of the life– the family I thought we’d built together. He would have never looked me in my face night after night for decades and lied.
Jack: I was protecting you.
Li: From the truth?
Jack: Yes. A painful truth.
Li: Do you have any idea how insulting that is? How condescending? I’m not a child, jack. I don’t need you deciding dictating what I can and can’t know about my own life. And I’m not talking little white lies, jack. You knew all those years sheila was finn’s birth mother and you kept me in the dark. And, if that wasn’t hurtful enough, to now find out that you had an affair with her? You turned to another woman, jack!
Jack: Because i was young and stupid. And the thought of being a responsible adult just terrified me. So I– I– I got caught up.
Finn: That’s excuses.
Jack: I made some mistakes. I should’ve told you both and I regret that. But my love for you and your mother, it’s the most honest, most real thing about me.
Li: How can I believe anything that comes out of your mouth? You had a child with another woman. We adopted him, we raised him together. You never mentioned you were finn’s biological father. Not a word. You must think I’m the biggest fool who ever lived.
Jack: Oh, please, li. I adore you–
Li: Don’T. You’re a stranger, I can’t even look at anymore.
Jack: Well, we should go. We should talk this out back at the hotel.
Li: You are not coming back to the hotel with me. The way I feel right now, I don’t know if I ever want to see you again. On the outside, I looked fine.
Carter: Being in love suits you, zende. I’m happy for you. And if there’s anything I can do for you and paris, just say the word.
Zende: Just keep being a good friend of both of us.
Carter: You can count on it.
Paris: Wait, you’re moving out?
Thomas: Yeah.
Paris: So you bought a house and you’re just now mentioning it?
Thomas: Not yet. I haven’t bought a house yet. For the time being, I’m just going to move into a really nice hotel room. And there I’ll have room service, I’ll have a gym, I’ll have conveniently located bar and it’ll be like vacation, except for, you know, close to work.
Paris: Which kind of defeats the purpose. Are you sure about this? Because I’d hate to think that you feel uncomfortable around me because there’s no reason. And I’m not offended by what you said. It won’t become a problem between us.
Thomas: I appreciate that. I really do. But my uh, what do you wanna call it? A declaration? That– that’s not the reason that I’m moving out. It’s just time. It’s time for me to get out of here, to have my own place. It’s time for you to be able to make this place your own. Hey, how exciting is that, to actually decorate this place yourself? Come on, you’re looking forward to that.
Paris: But this was your apartment, first. I don’t want you to feel like you need to leave.
Thomas: I don’T. Look, that was always the plan. I was going to move out. Plus, I don’t want to get lazy about house hunting. It’d be so easy to just keep staying here but I don’t want to do that. Now look, you are one of the best roommates I’ve ever had. You’re definitely the prettiest.
Paris: Oh, you say the nicest things.
Thomas: I only say true things. Look, I really have enjoyed living with you, paris,. You’re a great roommate. And I think I’ve said everything else about a thousand times and probably overplayed it. So you know what? I’m going to skip to the other part where I tell you I am a little disappointed. I am disappointed that you aren’t willing to see where this is going to go. But if you want to be with zende, then I’m happy for the both of you and i wish you both the best.
Paris: I’ll take that.
Jack: Li. Come on. Don’t shut me out. We can get through this.
Finn: No. You heard her. Mom doesn’t want anything to do with you, so you need to respect her wishes and leave her alone. I never thought I could be disappointed in you. I didn’t even think it that was possible. I looked up to you, I trusted you. We were so close.
Jack: I made a terrible mistake. But it doesn’t wipe away our family history and our relationship. I’m still the man who raised you. I’m still the man you loved and married.
Finn: No, no. See, that man had integrity. That man was honest. He wouldn’t betray the people he was supposed to love. And this whole family history thing you’re trying to fall back on, is based off of infidelity and lies. All right, you plotted with sheila to hide the facts about my birth. And I’m a product of that betrayal to my mother. And now it’s affecting steffy and my family!
Steffy: Baby, babe. You don’t have to do this.
Finn: No. He needs to hear the extent of the damage that he’s caused. All mom ever did was love you. And the whole time you were lying. Every single day. You had a son who idolized you and wanted to be just like you, especially when it came to being a father. But you are the last person that I want to emulate when it comes to family. Because I’m going to love my wife respectfully, faithfully and honestly and I’m going to raise my kids, kelly and hayes, with truth and respect, not secrets and lies!
Jack: Son, please…
Finn: Don’t call me that! Leave!
Jack: No. You can’t just wipe away our family history–
Finn: Go! Leave now!
Jack: Please. Li.
Finn: Go.
