Days of Our Lives Update

Update written by Joseph
Johnny and Chanel go to the hospital where they are greeted by Marlena, who says this brightens her day. Chanel says she has to go the restroom and walks away. Marlena notes the look they shared and asks what’s going on. Johnny then reveals to Marlena that Chanel’s biopsy confirmed breast cancer. Marlena tells him she’s so sorry. Johnny explains that they came to meet with an oncologist from Chicago and complains that he hates to lay this on Marlena today of all days. Marlena assures that she’s there for anything he needs. Johnny thanks her and says he loves her.
Kate checks on Joy at the Brady Pub. Joy admits she’s feeling a little anxious. Kate asks if she wants to talk. Joy says it’s no big deal but she left Kelsey with Alex for the first time alone. Joy notes that Alex tried to hide it but she could tell he’s kind of a wreck and admits that she is too.
Alex brings Kelsey to meet her Grandfather Justin at the Kiriakis Mansion.
Sarah checks on a patient named Destiny at the free clinic. Destiny explains feeling sick lately and it’s not going away. Sarah assures she will get excellent care and they will do everything they can to make her feel better.
Xander meets Marlena in her office and assumes it’s about working at Titan, asking if that means she’s finally ready to play nice with Kate. Marlena responds that it doesn’t mean that.
Chanel returns to Johnny and asks if he told Marlena about her diagnosis which he confirms. Johnny says that Marlena said she’s there for anything they need. Chanel is glad she knows and guesses it’s time for their appointment.
Sarah checks on Destiny and notes she has no fever. Destiny complains of stomach pain and throwing up a lot. Sarah guesses she’s dehydrated and asks if she’s taking any medication. Destiny says just painkillers but they aren’t doing much. Sarah asks what kind it is. Destiny says she doesn’t know as it’s just a bottle from the back of the cabinet. Sarah asks her to check when she gets home but Destiny says she threw the bottle away when she finished the pills. Destiny complains that her head is pounding and asks Sarah to just give her something. Sarah wants to hold off until doing tests, so she says she will order blood work and a flu and strep test to get to the bottom of what’s going on with her.
Marlena tells Xander that this is bigger than all of that as she’s been thinking about John lately in the context of a decision she has to make. Marlena brings up Johnny being named after John and how they were very close. Marlena complains that Xander and Kate have been railroading Johnny, so she thinks that John would tell her she shouldn’t work for them at all and just walk away. Marlena declares that is what she’s going to do unless he comes to his senses and drops the lawsuit against Johnny.
Joy tells Kate that she’s only ever left Kelsey with her sister and her mom while Alex doesn’t know much about babies. Kate encourages that he’s going to learn. Joy doubts he’s even changed a diaper, but admits Alex said he memorized the notes she left him. Kate points out that Stephanie will be there to help but guesses Joy’s not excited about that. Joy acknowledges that Stephanie probably has more experience changing diapers but admits she’s not too crushed that her brother’s wedding is on the other side of the planet. Kate asks if Stephanie did something. Joy says not exactly, she just doesn’t know how maternal Stephanie will ever feel towards Kelsey, since she wishes she didn’t exist.
Justin asks if Alex is doing okay with all of this. Alex says he always knew parenting would be a challenge. Justin agrees but says it’s worth it as there’s nothing like it as Kelsey will have his heart in no time. Alex responds that she already does.
Kate tells Joy that Stephanie has had a lot thrown at her lately, so she’s going to struggle with that. Kate encourages Joy to give Stephanie some time and let her find her new normal. Joy admits she’s not the first person to say that. Joy feels like she’s destined to be the bad guy in all of this. Kate assures she’s not and says she can relate. Kate tells Joy that she had a baby with a married man and tried to keep it secret to protect his family, but it all came out in the end and they did not embrace her with open arms. Joy says she’s not judging, but Alex and Stephanie weren’t married or even together when she got pregnant. Kate acknowledges that’s true. Kate guesses what she’s trying to say is that Alex and Stephanie are trying to work it out and tells Joy to be grateful that the situation is not much worse.
Sarah returns to Destiny with her test results and says she tested negative for influenza and strep throat. Destiny asks what’s wrong with her then. Sarah thinks she’s dealing with a stomach bug. Destiny asks what she can give her for that. Sarah offers a medicine that helps with nausea and says the best thing she can do is rest, drink plenty of liquids, and let it run it’s course. Destiny complains that she’s in pain. Sarah tells Destiny to come back to the ER if it gets worse. Destiny remarks that she won’t come back at all since she’s obviously not worth the trouble. Sarah stops her and assures that she wants to help and does think she’s worth the trouble. Sarah says it worries her that she’s this upset and in this much pain. Destiny pleads with her to do something about it then.
Xander questions Marlena as to why the hell he would drop the lawsuit. Marlena thinks he’s come a long way in their therapy together and she’s proud of the progress he’s made, but says he needs to start taking responsibility for his own actions. Xander argues that he’s tried his best. Marlena acknowledges that he’s owned up to things from his past and even talked about his regrets, but this business with Johnny is very different and something he has to fix. Marlena tells Xander that Johnny is the person he needs to apologize to and ask forgiveness from.
Johnny and Chanel go to meet Dr. George, but he refers to Chanel by her symptoms on her chart which offends her. Chanel argues that she’s the owner of a business and has a husband as she declares that she’s a person, not a disease. He apologizes and says he should’ve been more sensitive. Chanel says it’s okay as she’s obviously a little on edge. He talks about confirming the stage of her cancer after surgery. Chanel asks about the effects on her baby. He says she will go through chemotherapy until a few weeks before the due date and then begin hormone therapy afterwards. He calls it all pretty straightforward and asks if there’s any questions. Chanel responds that she actually has a lot of questions which seems to annoy the doctor.
Sarah tells Destiny that she knows she’s in pain and she wishes she could do more. Destiny complains that she hasn’t done anything and her head feels like it’s about to explode. Sarah encourages her to drink liquids but Destiny argues that won’t help. Sarah tries to get her to sit down but Destiny accuses her of thinking she’s making up her pain and storms out.
Roman comes over to greet Kate and Joy and asks if he can get them anything. Kate says they are fine, so Roman walks away. Joy questions if everything is okay between them. Kate admits it’s not really.
Justin asks Alex how Stephanie is taking all of this. Alex wishes he knew but says between the time difference and all the wedding stuff, they’ve barely talked, so he guesses he’ll find out when she gets back from China. Bonnie then comes in and excitedly meets Kelsey. Bonnie and Justin congratulate each other on being grandparents. Bonnie then suggests they discuss the lawsuit against her and DiMera Publishing.
Xander argues that Marlena can’t force him to do anything or to disclose what they’ve talked about here. Marlena agrees that she can’t and there’s nothing she can do to stop what Kate is doing, but she can stop treating Xander. Xander questions this being what motivates her to drop him as a patient. Marlena argues that Johnny has enough on his plate and doesn’t need an unfair lawsuit. Marlena tells Xander that either that goes away or he’ll have to find a new therapist. Xander calls that hardly fair but Marlena feels it’s more than fair. Marlena says that Xander was talking about regrets and now she’s giving him a chance to fix all of that.
Justin tells Bonnie that Alex came by to introduce them to his daughter, not to talk business. Bonnie says he came for a family visit and this is a family matter. Bonnie says she wants to be perfectly clear that she did not mean to rip off One Stormy Night as she was inspired by it, but she knows now that her book did cross the line and she takes full responsibility for it. Alex thanks her and understands that wasn’t her intention. Bonnie points out that DiMera is paying a lot while she’s paying too and not just with money. Bonnie complains that seeing her book ripped off the shelves was heartbreaking and humiliating. Alex tells Bonnie that he’s sorry and he’s with her on this. Justin adds that no one on their end wants to see it go to court. Justin says that EJ leaned on him and tried to broker a deal, thinking he had some pull but Xander won’t budge. Bonnie thanks them and asks Alex to try again. Alex agrees to try his hardest but he doesn’t know if it wil do any good. Alex says his gut tells him that the only way it will go away is if someone does the impossible and gets Xander to settle.
Xander questions Marlena saying he has to do what she says or lose his therapist and argues that it sounds like extortion to him. Marlena thinks any therapist would give him the same information and tells Xander to break the cycle of abusing power then beating himself up for it. Xander argues that he’s already made such progress with her and she knows his life story, so he doesn’t want to start all that over with someone else. Marlena tells Xander that he and Kate can do the right thing, then she can work with Kate and remain his therapist. Xander questions Kate admitting to it and points out that Roman would never forgive her. Marlena remarks that it isn’t her problem.
Roman asks Joy for a moment alone with Kate. Kate says she has nothing to say to him, but Roman says he has a few things to say to her.
Chanel tells Dr. George that she knows he must be busy, but she has to be comfortable with her treatment plan and asks how many pregnant women he’s treated. He says “enough” and then says a handful because it’s rare which Chanel questions because she’s read that it’s common and the numbers are growing. Chanel brings up her concerns with bias against black women with breast cancer. Johnny steps in and calls it a very difficult time, telling the doctor that Chanel just wants to make sure he’s listening to her. Dr. George assures that all medical research confirms the best treatment is the one he has recommended. Chanel argues that she’s not just another statistic and warns him not to treat her like she doesn’t matter.
Xander and Marlena leave her office and walk through the hospital. Xander remarks that he’s surprised that she’s so cavalier about Roman’s marriage. Marlena responds that she’s not, but Kate misled her grandson and argues that Roman deserves to know the truth while Johnny deserves to have the lawsuit against him dropped. Sarah comes over and questions Xander being back at the hospital. Xander informs her that he was just finishing his therapy session with Marlena and that she’s given him a lot to think about as he then exits.
Kate asks Joy to give her and Roman a moment. Joy gets up from the table as Alex arrives with Kelsey. Alex tells her it went great with Justin and Bonnie as they immediately fell in love with her. Meanwhile, Kate asks what Roman wants to say to her. Roman says he hates that they are having this fight and he gets why she’s mad at him, so he owes her an apology.
Sarah tells Marlena that she was hoping to run in to her as it’s the anniversary of John’s passing and asks how she’s doing. Marlena says all things considered, she’s alright. Marlena tells her about her plans with Brady and Belle to have dinner and raise a glass to toast John together. Marlena then invites Sarah to join them. Sarah says she loves John and all of them very much, but it sounds like a night for Marlena to be with her family. Marlena points out that she is important to Brady which makes her important to them, so Sarah agrees to think about it.
Dr. George tells Chanel that he tries very hard to give his patients the respect they deserve. Chanel complains that she isn’t feeling respect and is feeling scared that he doesn’t care. Chanel wants to know more about the effects this is going to have on her baby and questions if any long term studies proving a baby won’t end up with disabilities after being exposed to chemotherapy. Dr. George assures that she’s not just a statistic but that doesn’t change that she has a very serious illness, so taking advice from an online blog is a waste of their time. He suggests Chanel get off the internet and calm down because the stress isn’t doing any good. He asks Chanel to call his office to make arrangements to begin chemotherapy as he then walks out of the room.
Roman tells Kate that he hates the silent treatment, but he understands why she’s upset with him. Roman declares that he should’ve trusted her because she’s his wife, so if she says she didn’t set up Johnny then he believes her and will fight against anyone who says different. Kate tearfully thanks him and tells him how much it means to her as they hug.
Johnny and Chanel exit the hospital room, so Sarah asks how the appointment went. Johnny responds that Dr. George’s bedside manner is a bit lacking. Marlena acknowledges that he’s not known for being receptive to his patient’s concerns. Johnny thought he was supposed to be the best breast cancer specialist there is. Sarah states that even the best can mess up the human part. Johnny worries that they don’t have a lot of time before Chanel needs to begin chemo and surgery. Chanel then suddenly declares that she’s not doing it and she refuses to be pressured in to it by some egomaniacal jerk. She proclaims what happens to her body is her choice and not his as she storms off and Johnny goes after her.
Alex and Joy exit the Pub with Kelsey. Alex mentions preparing for his next visit with Kelsey, so Joy asks when that will be. Alex tells her that Stephanie will be home soon, so maybe it’s time she and Kelsey get to know each other. Joy questions if he’s sure she’s ready for that. Alex says he thinks so but admits he’s definitely not sure and they are just taking it one step at a time. Joy points out that they could always go to the park or come to her place if it’s easier. Alex thanks her but thinks they’ll be fine while Joy says she gets that he has to talk to Stephanie before agreeing to anything. Alex says he will see Kelsey and Joy again soon as he walks away.
Sarah runs in to her patient Destiny in the town square. Destiny tells her that she needs to go back to the hospital as she tried to make it back home but started feeling really bad. Xander arrives on the scene as Destiny loses consciousness and faints. Xander comes to her side as Sarah calls for an EMT and worries that she can’t feel a pulse on Destiny.
