Naomi went to see Smitty. She thanked him for being there for her and Jacob. Naomi said she didn’t like being kept in the dark, but she understood why. She said you had to keep secrets to protect yourself and the ones you love. Eva admitted that she was struggling with Derek’s death. Ted wanted her to focus on the clinic for a week while she dealt with her grief. He told Eva about Bill being there for him when he lost his brother. Later on, Shanice and Eva bonded with each other over Derek’s death. They told stories about Derek. Nicole told Anita and Vernon that she was upset that Ted volunteered her name as the Chief of Staff. She said that was an indicator that he didn’t know her. They all agreed that Monica would be a good fit for the position. When Vernon left to call Monica, Anita talked to Nicole about Ted. Nicole told Anita that she was fantasizing about Ted. Ted talked to Martin about Nicole and how she has been acting towards him. Martin told him that Nicole has been busy with other guys. Anita suspected that Nicole had feelings for Ted. She asked Nicole who she was taking to the fundraiser. Monica wasn’t sure if she wanted to be Chief of Staff, but Shanice and Vernon convinced her to take the position.
